ZAMBIA 56TH MOST PEACEFUL COUNTRY
Zambia has been ranked the 56th most peaceful country in the world.
This is according to the 2022 Global Peace Index released by the Institute for Peace and Economics which is based in Australia.
The ranking shows that in the past one year, Zambia has improved by 15 points as it was ranked number 71 globally in 2021.
The index, which was released this month, has shown that in Africa, Zambia is ranked number 15 out of 53 countries.
The report has attributed Zambia’s improvement in the Global Peace Index to its good relations with neighbouring countries as well as reduced expenditure on the military.
Meanwhile, the Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes -SACCORD has congratulated the country for improving her levels of peacefulness.
SACCORD Executive Director BONIFACE CHEEMBE says Zambia is now getting on track because most fundamentals that are critical in improving and maintaining high quality levels of Peacefulness, have been met.
Mr. CHEEMBE says despite this good ranking, more must be done to reach a high level of peacefulness.
