Luangwa…. Friday March 3, 2023

Police in Luangwa District have recorded a case of drowning in which a 23-year-old man identified as Happy Makate drowned in Mozambique at Mitiminyola Fishing camp.

Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale says brief facts are that the deceased together with the brother identified as Edwin Makate aged 25 left Zambia for Mozambique on a fishing expedition.

Mr. Mwale explains that as they attempted to put the fishing nets in the waters of the Zambezi for their expected first catch, a hippo hit their boat which later capsized and resulted into the death of Happy Makate while the brother managed to swim to safety.

“The incident occured on March 1, 2023 around 23:00 hours at Mitiminyola Fishing Camp Site in the Republic of Mozambique,” he said.

“The body arrived at the harbour today, March 3, 2023 at about 00:20 hours. It was inspected and was found with no physical injuries thereby confirming a case of drowning.”

Mr. Mwale disclosed that burial will take place this morning because the body is said to be in a bad state.
