ZICA PRESIDENT DISPELS MALICIOUS ACCUSATION

By Diamond Staff

Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants-ZICA President Yande Siame-Mwenye has dismissed claims by former directors of Crowe Howarth Welsa Accountants Zambia Limited of having allegedly formed a company under the umbrella of the existing entity.

Reacting to a press release published in some sections of the media, Mrs. Mwenye accuses a Mr. Oliver Mtasa, Raymond Sibanda, Jabulani Mavimba and others, who are of Zimbabwean origin of allegedly launching a smear campaign after having stopped their accounting practice after anomalies were detected.

Mrs. Mwenye sets the record by stating that before she became ZICA President, the institute had directed her to register Crowe Howarth Welsa Accountants Zambia Limited in which she later became the only director and licensed practicing accountant under the firm in accordance with the regulations.

She further reveals that upon discovery of alleged irregularities in the registration of the company in 2017 by Dr. Mtasa, Mr. Sibanda, Mr. Mavimba and others, she was directed to liquidate Crowe Howarth Welsa Accountants Zambia Limited and the trio never contested the institute’s decision.

The ZICA President contends that it is on that background that the three businessmen and their agents allegedly commenced personal malicious attacks and have gone as far as to appoint a named police officer to serve as Chief Executive Officer, hence her petitioning of the Minister of Home Affairs and office of the Inspector General of Police to ascertain whether the said serving officer is permitted to be a managing partner and accountant under questionable circumstances.

Mrs. Mwenye has since vowed that as ZICA President the accounting mother body will ensure only licensed and law-abiding accountants practice.

Her sentiments follow a press release published by Crowe Zimbabwe associate, Jabulani Mavimba on Wednesday, 14th February, 2024, whose claims in a nine-paragraph statement alleges the ZICA President went against the troubled company by forming her own in early 2023, an allegation that has been refuted by Mrs. Mwenye
