There is nothing democratic that the USA can teach Zambia or Africa- Russian Ambassador, Azim Yarakhmedov

● USA record of human rights abuse and international crimes is appaling.

● No Free Media in USA and they can even ban persons like Donald Trump on social-media platform.

● It is a global leader in the imprisonment of its own people.

● Summit of Democracy by those with terrible track record

“Regarding the “Summit for Democracy” that was organized by Washington on 9-10 December 2021 and will be held again this year in Zambia, I can say that it is a very strange event. Its organizers claim the leading position in the promotion of democracy and human rights across the world. However, the “track record” and reputation of the USA, Great Britain and most of the EU countries, regarding democratic rights and freedoms at home and abroad, leave much to be desired, to say it mildly.”

“Facts and history of relations of these countries with others, especially with African countries and peoples, show us that they cannot act as “beacons” of democracy because they themselves have deeply ingrained problems with freedom of speech, electoral systems, corruption and human rights.”

“For example, it is known that the USA do not have independent media. Party and corporate elites de-facto determine the editorial policy of the largest western media.”

“Well-functioning mechanisms of censorship and content removal are in place to suppress dissent on the Internet, like how it was done with former president Donald Trump. Or let’s look at another example. The USA, which claim the role of the “global leader of democracy,” for many years in a row hold a leading position for population imprisoned (more than 2 million people) and conditions in prisons violate human dignity”.

“The prison in Guantanamo still functions and Washington continues to create secret prisons on foreign soil. Capital punishment is still being practiced in many states of the US. The list can go on and it applies to other so-called leaders of democracy such as France and Britain. The people of Africa have intimate knowledge of the role of these democratic countries in Rwandan genocide and in the killing of civilians in Iraq, Libya and Syria.”

The Interview of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Zambia, Azim Yarakhmedov to Zambian Media

Good day, Mr. Ambassador, thank you very much for agreeing to meet us and answer our questions.

1. In February, it was exactly one year since you arrived to Zambia and took up your responsibilities as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation. What is your assessment of the current state of the Russian-Zambian relations and do you see a potential for their further development?

Thank you very much, indeed, in February it was exactly one year since I arrived to Lusaka and it is enough time to assess the state of our relations and to tell you about the Russian plans for their improvement. First of all, Russia recognizes Zambia as a friendly country and conducts its business with it accordingly. Although recently, to be honest, despite the history of our friendly relations, they require a certain new dynamic for their further development.

I would like to point out that our cooperation in humanitarian field continues to develop dynamically. Russia helps Zambia to prepare new skilled personnel for its economy. About thousand young Zambians are studying in Russia in different universities under the scholarship programme of the Russian Government.

This year, another 160 young students will join them. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, Russia has trained around six thousand qualified specialists, who now participate in all areas of Zambian economy. Currently, our countries are actively discussing plans to expand our cooperation in the fields of media, culture, sports, youth and higher education.

The Russian side is prepared to intensify bilateral cooperation in other areas as well: trade and economy, finance, investments, energy, agriculture. As you remember, esteemed Mr. H.Hichilema, the President of Zambia, during the press conference on the results of his Government’s activities in 2022, pointed out some obstacles that it would face in 2023. He put an emphasis on energy, fuel, mineral fertilizers and logistics (especially the need to rehabilitate and upgrade the TAZAMA pipeline).

I think that some of the problems mentioned by the President could be solved within the framework of our cooperation. First and foremost, in regards to fuel deliveries – petrol, diesel, liquefied gas. Russia could export mineral fertilizers and grain to Zambia and conduct transactions in national currencies at mutually satisfactory prices. To be honest, I discussed that with the Minister of Energy in March and I hope that the Zambian Government will formulate its position on the topic soon.

We continue our cooperation in the fields of science and manufacture – I mean the construction of the Zambian Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology in Lusaka. Despite the fact that the process has slowed down to some degree recently, the sides have stated their willingness to continue the construction of the Centre and I see it as a positive sign. It needs to be stressed that the commissioning of the Nuclear Centre will create completely new opportunities for Zambia in the fields of medicine (treatment of oncological diseases) and agriculture. Our cooperation also continues in other areas, including sensitive ones.

2. Mr. Ambassador, I would like to ask about the following. We know from the news that the Second Russia-Africa Summit will be held in St Petersburg, Russia, in July. What is exactly this Summit and will a Zambian delegation participate in it?

Yes, you are correct. On 26-29 July 2023, the Second Russia-Africa Summit will take place in St Petersburg as well as Economic and Humanitarian Russia-Africa Forum. I want to emphasize that the decision to set apart the economic and humanitarian topics was made based on the wishes of our African partners and because Moscow intends to actively develop the whole spectrum of relations with African countries.

The main idea of the upcoming Summit is that Russia is ready to support the strengthening of the sovereignty of African states. These are not empty words.

As you know, the USSR had never had any colonies in Africa, on the contrary, it played a leading role in the process of decolonization of the African continent and was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with African states, including with Zambia in October 1964, the same month when it declared its independence.

Many facts point out that Russia continues to provide genuine support to African countries. For example, during the First Russia-Africa Summit, Moscow decided to write off completely $20 billion of debt, owed by African countries, based on the state of their economies. Or another example – this year, some African countries asked for Russia’s help in order to receive grain and mineral fertilizers. In the view of the situation in those countries, Russia delivered 20 thousand tonnes of mineral fertilizers to Malawi and 30 thousand tonnes to Zimbabwe free of charge. This work continues at the present time.

The political part of the Summit will be devoted to the review of Russian-African agenda in the context of our common interests in the creation of just world order, based on the principle of respect for international law, multipolarity, national interests and indivisibility of security with the central coordinating role of the UN. By the way, Russia is in favor of the African continent having a seat as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Other key topics will include development of trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, food and energy security, transfer of technology, public health and education and preparation of labour force for African countries.

During the Summit, a Youth Day and a special programme for spouses of heads of states will take place.

About the participation of delegations from African countries, I can say that almost 90 per cent of them have already expressed their willingness to take part in the Summit. Regarding Zambia, I will say it like this – I, as the Ambassador of Russia, have conveyed via a diplomatic note the original invitation by President of Russia V.Putin to President of Zambia H.Hichilema.

I hope to receive a reply about the participation of a Zambian delegation in the Summit soon because we would like H.Hichilema, as a president of a friendly country, to visit the Summit together with his spouse as well as relevant ministers, representatives of Zambian business community and youth in order to establish mutually beneficial contacts that could facilitate bilateral trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation.

3. Mr. Ambassador, what can you tell about the work of the Zambian Government and the participation of the President in various international forums, especially in the Summit for Democracy, which took place in December 2021 and was organized by the US (the next stage of which will be held in March 2023 and Zambia will be one of the co-hosts).
Right from the start, I need to say that as the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, accredited to Zambia, I am in no position to evaluate the work of esteemed President H.Hichilema.

However, I can express my opinion about the international events that happen in Zambia and in Africa, including the ones where he has already participated. I can say right away that the Zambian Government pursues rather active international trade and economic policy – I would probably even say that economic policy is the primary focus – and the goal of that policy is to solve the tasks that stand in front of the government. I noticed that most of those international events, including the ones where the President has participated, revolved around debt restructuring.

That topic has been already sufficiently covered in your newspaper. We think that this is the most important task for the Government because unregulated debts prevent the country from attracting new investments to develop its economy and in turn to improve the lives of Zambian citizens.

Regarding Zambian foreign economic activity, we would like to see Russia among its active partners as well. As we see it, Russia and Zambia have enough “points of contact” in order to increase mutually beneficial bilateral and multilateral cooperation in every area, including, above all things, trade, economic and humanitarian fields.

For instance, the prices of fuel have been rising recently in Zambia, the lack of mineral fertilizers is noticeable, the Government has plans to develop energy production, oil and fuel pipelines, to build roads and railways. I am sure, as I have already told, that Russia can act as a reliable partner in such projects, as evident from the history of our bilateral relations.

We would also like the President of Zambia, esteemed H.Hichilema, to pay a visit to Russia, within the framework of which it would be possible to prepare a long-term mutually beneficial Programme of cooperation between our countries.
Regarding the “Summit for Democracy” that was organized by Washington on 9-10 December 2021 and will be held again this year in Zambia, I can say that it is a very strange event.

Its organizers claim the leading position in the promotion of democracy and human rights across the world. However, the “track record” and reputation of the USA, Great Britain and most of the EU countries, regarding democratic rights and freedoms at home and abroad, leave much to be desired, to say it mildly. Facts and history of relations of these countries with others, especially with African countries and peoples, show us that they cannot act as “beacons” of democracy because they themselves have deeply ingrained problems with freedom of speech, electoral systems, corruption and human rights.

For example, it is known that the USA do not have independent media. Party and corporate elites de-facto determine the editorial policy of the largest western media. Well-functioning mechanisms of censorship and content removal are in place to suppress dissent on the Internet, like how it was done with former president Donald Trump. Or let’s look at another example.

The USA, which claim the role of the “global leader of democracy,” for many years in a row hold a leading position for population imprisoned (more than 2 million people) and conditions in prisons violate human dignity.

The prison in Guantanamo still functions and Washington continues to create secret prisons on foreign soil. Capital punishment is still being practiced in many states of the US. The list can go on and it applies to other so-called leaders of democracy such as France and Britain.

The people of Africa have intimate knowledge of the role of these democratic countries in Rwandan genocide and in the killing of civilians in Iraq, Libya and Syria. Against this background, the democratic rhetoric of Washington and Western capitals seems out of touch with reality. One should get his own house in order before it starts to “export democracy.” As for Zambian participation in this forum, I think Zambia has the full right to call itself a democratic republic.

Zambia systematically strengthens democratic values in social conscience, the transfer of power after parliamentary and presidential elections is conducted democratically and courts hold an important role. Taking into account the existing opportunities, conditions have been created for respect for human rights and freedoms, Christian values are promoted and other religions are respected, country participates in the peacekeeping operations in Africa.

I also cannot ignore the fact that presidential decrees of H.Hichilema of December 2022 are the true acts of a democratic state. I mean the laws that abolished death penalty and criminal defamation of a head of state.

Honestly, although I do not like when someone divides countries and peoples into democratic and undemocratic, because only the UN – the international collective authority – has that right, I am glad that Lusaka will co-host that so-called Summit. I am sure that the USA and other western countries will have something to learn from Zambia about democracy.

HH SHOULDN’T SPEAK TO LUNGU LIKE A KID – FORMER PF SG MWILA

…says President HH should respect former president Lungu because he is older than him.

Lusaka – Friday, 17 March 2023

FORMER PF secretary general Davies Mwila says President Hakainde Hichilema should give his predecessor, Edgar Lungu, some respect because he is not his agemate.

And Mwila has wondered what wrong the former president has committed that President Hichilema has continued “insulting him”.

On Wednesday, President Hichilema warned Lungu that it will soon get bad for him if he continues “ukutumpa” (being stupid).

But in an interview, Thursday, Mwila said President Hichilema’s statement showed that he had a grudge against Lungu.

“What wrong thing has Edgar Lungu made? This is the question that is supposed to go to the President, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, what wrong has Mr Edgar Lungu made? Is it [wrong] for him to go to church? What is there for him to start insulting his friend? He must explain properly. I was there at church and Edgar Lungu never gave a statement more than two minutes. He said ‘I lost power but I never lost God’. And he thanked the Christians for ensuring that Zambia is maintained as a Christian nation. He emphasised the need for him to continue going to church because he is a Christian. It ends there. Is that a problem? This just shows that the President has a grudge against his friend. He is a bitter man,” he said.

Mwila said President Hichilema should respect Lungu because he was older than him.

“As far as I am concerned, former president Edgar Lungu meant well. He never insulted anyone, he never talked about the price of mealie meal or fuel. So there is even no need for the former president to apologise because he never made any mistake. And I would encourage him to be free because he is a citizen. He is free and he can go anywhere he wants to go. He is not a prisoner. We have advised him, he should not be staying in his home. He is not under house arrest. He must be going round mingling with people. He is still young and energetic. The President has been condemned by so many people and he must change his language. He is the President of the country and not a political party. He is an institution now. He can’t be speaking to Edgar Lungu as if he is speaking to a small kid, no. Hakainde Hichilema is 60, Edgar Lungu is 66. So some sort of respect must be there,” he said.

And commenting on Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gary Nkombo’s congratulatory remarks to Lungu for “coming back into active politics”, Mwila said there is no indication that Lungu is back in active politics.

“Who told him that he is back in politics? Thabo Mbeki in South Africa talks about politics and how the country is being governed. Uhuru Kenyatta in Kenya, Mbingu wa Mutharika in Malawi just lost today and the following day he started holding rallies. Edgar Lungu has never gone anywhere to address a rally. They have to just continue governing because they were given the power. Since power was given to them, let them implement the promises they made. They should not concentrate or divert attention to Edgar Lungu. Edgar Lungu is former president and former presidents have the right to move, to speak and the right for anything. They are citizens of this country. So he is still energetic and let them just concentrate. If they are saying that he wants to come back, let them just dream. It is them thinking about that. As far as we are concerned, he has not made any indication that he wants to come back. We have never heard about it. Going to church should become a crime? No, let’s be serious,” said Mwila

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TO GRACE INDUCTION OF 30 SPECIAL FORCES TRAINEES

Republican President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force, Hakainde Hichilema, is next month, expected in Mbala district, Northern Province to witness the special forces officers’ and operatives’ induction parade.

Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General, Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi confirmed this when he called on Mbala District Commissioner, Annie Paul.

“The President will be in our midst on the 17th of the coming month, if all goes according to plan, to grace the forthcoming induction of army officers undergoing special forces training.” We are just finalising the preparations, after which he will be called.
“This whole training finally qualifies trainee officers and soldiers as special forces operatives,” Lt Gen Alibuzwi said.

In welcoming the Army Commander, Ms. Paul thanked the Zambia Army for its continued support towards various developmental initiatives in the district and heaped praise on the Mbala-based commandos for their good conduct.

During another courtesy call on Mpulungu District Commissioner, Gehard Sikazwe, the Army Commander received commendations, owing to the hard work and commitment to duty by the Zambia Army officers and soldiers from the Commando Unit deployed in the area.

The Army Commander and his entourage were in the district to witness the final days of training for 29 officers and one soldier of the Zambia Army who volunteered to become special forces operatives.

Initially, 32 officers and one soldier volunteered to undergo special forces training, of whom one withdrew due to the pressure associated with the operatives, while two other officers sustained injuries, with one succumbing to them after undergoing several weeks of treatment, bringing the total down to 29 officers and one soldier.

The entourage was greeted by several demonstrations, including night attacks, raids, demolitions, and live and night firing as part of the final exercise.

The entourage also took time to appreciate local tourism by visiting Kalambo Falls and the Moto Moto Museum, situated in Mbala district, and took time to appreciate the Outward Bound area earmarked for Commando direct entry recruit training.

The 30 officers finalizing training are out of the 313 who were commissioned by President Hichilema in 2022 and volunteered to join the special forces.

AUDITOR GENERAL ‘ABANDONS’ AGRIC AUDIT…as PS refuses to avail fertiliser documents

DICK ‘ABANDONS’ AGRIC AUDIT

…as PS refuses to avail fertiliser documents

By Staff Reporters

AUDITOR General Dick Sichembe has threatened to stop auditing the Ministry of Agriculture following permanent secretary Green Mbozi’s failure to provide the requested information and documents, a source at Cabinet Office has revealed.

The source said it was unprecedented for a permanent secretary, who is also a controlling officer, to willfully refuse to provide the Office of the Auditor General with information or documents in the course of his duties because that is not only unprofessional but also illegal.

“This matter has raised concern and a lot of interest in the government circles. We are all waiting to see what action the Secretary to the Cabinet and Secretary to the Treasury will take against this erring permanent secretary because the Auditor General has alerted them about his behaviour,” the source said. “Some of us have seen the five-page letter from the Auditor to the PS which he copied to SC (Secretary to the Cabinet), ST (Secretary to the Treasury) and the Attorney General complaining against the PS’ failure to provide the requested information.”

In this letter to Mbozi, dated February 24, 2023, the Auditor General complained that his office was having challenges to audit the ministry for the financial year ended 31st December 2022 because information was not forthcoming. Dr Sichembe complained that this failure would affect his capacity to produce the audit report in line with the deadlines as enshrined in the national Constitution.

“You will agree with me that your continued failure or inertia to provide requested information is therefore against the legal and professional requirements,” Dr Sichembe wrote quoting section 83 (1) (k) of the public finance management Act which criminalises failure to provide requested information.

“The failure to provide the requested information may result in my office failing to meet its Constitutional mandate with regard to timelines for the financial report and the audit report.”

He cited Article 211 (2) of the Constitution of Zambia which requires his office to render an audit opinion on the financial report of the Republic not later than May 31 in each year. Dr Sichembe also referred to circular number 1 of 2020 from his office which requires audited entities to provide requested information not later than 10 days after it has been requested for, in order to meet the constitutional deadlines.

“Further, by Article 212 of the Constitution, my office is required not later than 30th September of each year to submit a Report on the Accounts of the Republic to the President and National Assembly,” he indicated. “Considering that deadlines relating to audit are enshrined in the Constitution, the timely provision of information by audited entities for audit purposes is critical to meeting these constitutionally stipulated deadlines.”

For this reason, Dr Sichembe gave Mbozi up to Friday, March 3, 2023 to provide the information failure to which he would abandon auditing the Ministry of Agriculture.

“In the event that you do not favourably respond to this request by the deadline, I will not be in a position to continue auditing your ministry,” wrote Dr Sichembe. “I have taken the liberty to copy in the Secretary to the Cabinet and the Attorney General for them to appreciate the challenges facing my office in carrying out its constitutional mandate. As the Chief Controlling Officer of the government as per Article 183 (3) of the Constitution and section 6 of the public finance management Act, the Secretary to the Treasury is also in copy herein. For ease of reference, I have attached copies of requests for information and queries issued to your ministry to date…”

Among the requested information include suppliers’ ledgers for the supply and delivery of fertiliser, seed, army worms chemicals and protective clothing.

Others are various contracts and their addenda, evaluation reports for the various procurements, payment ledgers, various solicitation and bid documents, various minutes, Farmer Input Support Programme files for all contract managers and for each province and reports on all claims or pay-out made per beneficiary clearly indicating the year the claim was made, amounts claimed, province, district and camp and reasons for payments.

Dr Sichembe complained that despite several reminders, this information has not been availed from early January 2023 when his office began auditing the Ministry of Agriculture. The controlling officer is mandated to provide the information with 10 days, following the request for information.

What does Lungu think I am – HH

By Kombe Chimpinde Mataka

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says his predecessor Edgar Lungu allegedly wants to come back and start killing the people he did not kill.

“When he says alebwelelapo what does he think I am? What does he think you are?” he asked. “Those who are quiet do not mean they agree with noise being made. I am not supposed to be alive myself. I should have died a long time ago. But God protected us.”

During the Copperbelt Province UPND card renewal exercise in Kitwe on Monday, President Hichilema said he will not allow manoeuvres by Lungu to return to power.

He reminded Lungu about an incident when he was thrown in cells with women that were part of his delegation to the Copperbelt in Luanshya.

“Ndola, I know you remember the issue of Sun FM. Remember I was called to be locked up over ZAFFICO. Bushe namulaba (Have you forgotten)? Yali ninkondo (It was war). It was tense,” President Hichilema said.

He said he could not be arrested in some instances because of his party supporters who police feared would run amok.

“You said nga mwa mukaka HH fyalabipa (you said if you arrest HH hell will break loose). So who protected me? It was you. The journey we walked, the teargas, so many things. One time after the other ba lelanda ati tulebwelelapo. Alelanda ati alebwelelapo. Nakabili aletupuma? Kuti mwasumina imwe (Would you accept that)? Kuti mwasumina? Limbi aba kuti basumina (May be these can accept). Kwangala uko,” President Hichilema said in reference to the PF and Lungu. “Nimasobela ayo (those are games). One time I was in Mukobeko. He put me in there. He must say thank you that I am the President of the country. If I was to do what he did to me, he wouldn’t even be going to church. He was in church yesterday (Sunday).”

A visibly angry President Hichilema reminded UPND faithfuls how PF had forgotten that they had slain citizens together with supporters who he mentioned one by one.

He said he would not have been alive had it not been for some party members who died in his place.

“They killed children. Lawrence Banda, putting a bullet in his head,” he said.

“Joseph Kaunda, that bullet was meant for me, and Joseph Kaunda took that bullet for me. What do you think I think about that situation? When he says alebwelelapo what does he think I am? What does he think you are? What does he think the children of Joseph Kaunda are? Lawrence Banda, Mapenzi Chibulo, Grazier Matapa. What does he think about those women who were thrown in a cell together with me? Bushe aletontonkanya olo ninshi (are you thinking properly or what is it?” President Hichilema wondered.

He said God gave him a big chest but that should not be misunderstood.

President Hichilema said God wanted him to correct the wrongs of his predecessor.

“We must not misunderstand each other in this country. We must not abuse each other in this country,” he said. “How can one aspire to come back to come and start killing more young people? I am protecting young people, someone wants to come back and start killing the people he did not kill that time. Kwangala uko, kutumpa uko (Those are games. That’s being silly).”

President Hichilema urged Zambians not to be misled.

He said people were brought up differently and that his style of leadership was different from that of others.

“Some talk a lot, tick tock. All the time, talk talk. Those who are quiet do not mean they agree with noise being made. I am not supposed to be alive myself. I should have died a long time ago. But God protected us. But in a way a part of me died. We came for the Youth Day, you started fighting. Kutumpa uko (that’s being silly),” said President Hichilema. “If I allowed these guys to avenge after 2021 elections people would have died in this country.”

SUSPECT IN ABDUCTION CASE ATTEMPTED TO ESCAPE- Jack Mwiimbu

PAMELA CHISUMPA ADDUCTORS TO APPEAR IN COURT SOON

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, says the two suspects in the Pamela Chisumpa and 12 others abduction case are safe and in the custody of the Zambia Correctional Service.

Mr Mwiimbu said the two suspects will be appearing in court soon as investigations have been concluded and the dockets are with the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He disclosed that the two suspects in the abduction case are classified as high risk and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security has been applying appropriate measures through the Zambian Correctional Service.

The Minister said this in a ministerial statement in Parliament when responding to a matter of urgency raised by Mpika Member of Parliament, Francis Kapyanga.

Mr Mwiimbu said on February 26, 2023 around 13:00 hours, the Zambia Correctional Service at the new Mwembeshi Remand Prison and Correctional Centre recorded one escape incidence.

He added that the escape incidence involved two convicts and one remandee who escaped after scaling the perimeter wall fence of the facility.

He added that the two convicts were admitted to the facility for the offence of stock theft while the remandee was admitted for the offence of aggravated robbery.

Mr Mwiimbu explained that on the same date and time, one remandee, who is one of the two suspects arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of Pamela Chisumpa and 12 others, attempted to escape.

“The remandee climbed the wall fence and jumped off but injured himself on landing. He was recaptured immediately thereafter and is receiving medical attention under the custody of the Zambian Correctional Service. The remandee was admitted to the facility in December 2022,” he explained.

He disclosed that there were no gunshots fired at the convicts and remandee contrary to what was circulating on some media platforms.

He explained that the Zambia Correctional Service has put appropriate measures that are consistent with the control and management of high-risk inmates.

“Madam Speaker, the Zambian Correction Service has put in place measures to disrupt attempts to escape lawful custody,” he said.

Mr Mwiimbu further said on 28th February 2023, one of the convicts was recaptured while the other convict was recaptured on 4th March, 2023 around 22:00 hours in Linda compound in Lusaka but one still on the run.

The Minister has since called on the general public to work with the Zambian Correctional Service to curb escapes and provide information that will lead to the recapture of escapees.

Mr Mwiimbu has strongly warned those contemplating escaping from lawful custody, members of the public and individuals with the intention of aiding or harbouring escapees that they will face the wrath of the law if found wanting.

He further appealed to the media houses to be cautious when reporting on issues of security nature as their reporting can have negative outburst.

Pamela Chisumpa and 12 others were found in Lusaka’s Chalala area where they were being kept captive for six months.

FIFA $1.5 MILLION GRANT PLUNDER: FAZ Awarded K6 Million Projects To Ghost Companies- Augustine Mukoka

FIFA $1.5 MILLION GRANT PLUNDER: FAZ Awarded K6 Million Projects To Ghost Companies

At least four companies awarded contracts to refurbish stadiums and the FAZ Accommodation Center are not legal entities registered by both the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) and the National Construction Council (NCC) in Zambia, an independent search at both institutions has revealed.

Last week, information emerged that FAZ had embezzled part of the K1.5 million grant issued by FIFA having allocated it to five projects in Chipata, Kasama, Lusaka, Solwezi and Mansa.

According to available data, FAZ allocated the refurbishment of four stadiums and the technical center $300, 000 (about K6 Million) each but works at the facilities does not show that 10% of it had been done.

However, records at FAZ indicate that all the projects have reached between 50% to 80% completion rate and had been paid with the refurbishment of David Kaunda stadium in Chipata the only facility to have received nearly the total payment.

A report compiled by a FAZ Ad-hoc that recently toured all the five sites revealed that the projects were far from over with recommendation that the procurement process and contracts awarded be reviewed.

An on-the-spot check to all the five facilities has also revealed that the projects are a disappointing tale with contractors nowhere in sight as they have abandoned their assignments.

FAZ published a statement claiming the projects were underway while admitting that there was some delay in meeting the targets.

Acting general secretary Iva Lengwe also published images of billboards of those companies said to have been awarded contracts for the construction projects.

They included Portend Construction, Royal King, MP Consulting, GNM Construction and Artificial Grass Africa. A billboard at the Accommodation Center in Lusaka shows that N23 Limited was the company responsible for the project.

Sources have however disclosed that the contract for the Accommodation Center was awarded to one of FAZ president Andrew Kamanga’s “serial” praise singer, a losing UPND parliamentary candidate for a seat in Ndola rural.

FAZ deputy general secretary Joseph Chimpampwe was the focal point in managing the FIFA grant and is alleged to have headed the committee in charge of procurement, authorization of payments and the awarding of contracts.

Chimpampwe has been contacted for a comment but at the time of publication of this article had yet to respond to a press query sent to his WhatsApp mobile number.

A paid search at PACRA has since revealed that only Royal King, the contractor refurbishing David Kaunda stadium in Chipata, is registered with PACRA while the rest do not appear anywhere as legal entities.

FAZ president Kamanga said in his weekly column on Monday that, “as with every FIFA funded project, we are keeping tabs on the four stadia under rehabilitation to ensure that the people in charge of the actual implementation stick to the terms of reference. Internally, we have a committee that is overseeing these projects who provide updates to relevant stakeholders. We look forward to the completion of these projects that have fallen behind schedule but remain on course.”

Kamanga did not mention the fifth project awarded to one of his lead “praise-singers” which has also been abandoned.

FIFA Forward core principles require that the investment in football development is transparent, carefully managed and effective.

The world soccer mother body is giving member associations upto $6 Million over four years depending on needs. Part of the funds are meant for projects tailored to member association’s approved contract of agreed objectives, and in particular relating to football infrastructure (e.g. pitches, technical centres, training grounds, stadiums and headquarters).

According to the Reporting and Auditing Guidelines, any projection above $300, 000 is monitored by FIFA’s Development Committee but those in Zambia fail within the ambit of FAZ oversight only subject to periodic FIFA (mostly annual) audits.

Lusaka woman implicates devil in her sexual affair with married man

A WOMAN of Lusaka’s Garden compound, who has been dragged to court by the wife of a man she was having a sexual affair with, has pleaded for mercy, sayin it is the devil that inspired her.

Josephine Sitali, 28, was in the Lusaka Boma Local Court for flooding the WhatsApp inbox of her ex-lover’s wife, Margaret Kalimba, 37, with insulting voice notes.

It is reported that Josephine, a banana seller had been too busy with her business to find a husband, hence being single for a long time.

However, the fear of cobwebs completely sealing off her unutilised cave of sweetness made her lure another woman’s husband, James Mwamba aged 44, into a sexual relationship.

And after countless steamy fornication sessions with Mwamba, Josephine asked him to make her his second wife but he declined and called of the relationship.

Unprepared to lose a man who had efficiently ploughed her to ecstasy, Josephine decided to approach Mwamba’s wife and plead that she be allowed to be co-wife.

But when Margaret rejected the idea of sharing a husband, Josephine went on the offensive, bought so che bundles and depeleted gallons upon galons of saliva composing and sending insults to her via WhatsApp leading to a lawsuit in the Lusaka Boma Local Court.

In her defence, Josephine apologised for the insults saying she was no husband snatcher but was only driven into an affair with a married man by loneliness and sexual starvation.

“Otherwise am not a husband snatcher, the devil only tempted me to get into a sexual relationship with James because I was single for a long time and I desperately needed a man’s romantic touch,” Josephine told the court.

Meanwhile as the two women stood in opposite docks of the courtroom, Mwamba, the man at the centre of the legal battle took the front row seat holding his wife’s phone that contained the alleged insults from his side side chick.

Judgement in the matter was adjourned to another date.

ARCHBISHOP IGNATIUS CHAMA SAYS HE IS SADDENED BY WITCH FINDERS WHO HAVE INVADED CHIEF NKOLE MFUMU’S MITI CHIEFDOM

Thursday, 16th March, 2023

Archbishop Ignatius Chama of the Archdiocese of Kasama says he is saddened by witch finders who have invaded Chief Nkole Mfumu’s Miti Chiefdom of Kasama District.

Archbishop Chama, who was in Chief Nkole Mfumu’s palace village to celebrate the sacrifice of Holy Mass on Sunday (12 March 2023), says he was informed that the witch finders from Tanzania are 10 altogether.

The Archbishop of Kasama further reveals that he learnt that they are in the area at the invitation of Chief Nkole Mfumu, disclosing that they have been invited to cleanse witches in villages of Miti Chiefdom.

‘But you the citizens of a Christian nation, have you accepted that foreigners should come to your areas to loot your wealth and sow seeds of hatred and division in communities just because a Chief is afraid of death?’ Archbishop Chama asks.

He further asks whether it is because there are benefits accruing from the witch cleansing exercise being shared with the witch finders.

The Chief Shepherd of the Archdiocese of Kasama says people are struggling not only to put food on the table, but also to educate their children, adding that instead of protecting them, their ruler does not see the kind of suffering his subjects are subjected to.

‘Their ruler elects to force them to donate their hard-earned money towards witch finding in addition to threatening them with deportation from the chiefdom,’ he further notes.

And Archbishop Chama has told police officers that the case of witch finding in Chief Nkole Mfumu’s Chiefdom is a well known issue which they are aware of.

‘Simply because no one has come forward to complain doesn’t mean people are not subjected to suffering,’ he explains.

Archbishop Chama says because the Chief has shut police officers’ mouths, no village community member from the affected village communities can have the audacity to make a complaint to the police against the chief.

Archbishop Chama reminds the police that the duty Zambians have entrusted to the Zambia Police Service is maintaining law and order.

The Chief Shepherd was speaking this On his Weekly Radio program dubbed ‘ISHIWI LYAKWA KACHEMA’ on Lutanda RADIO Station which comes every Wednesday at 15 00 Hours and a Repeat on Thursdays at 09 15 Hours.

AS REQUIRED BY LAW, I DECLARED INTEREST IN ANY DEALINGS AT MINISTRY OF DEFENCE, GBM TELLS COURT

….laying before Magistrate Ngobolo a copy of the letter written to and acknowledged by his PS on 5th October, 2011

Lusaka, Thursday, March 16, 2023 ( Smart Eagles)

Business tycoon Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba – GBM has opened his defence in the matter he is facing 24 counts before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court.

The first 8 of the 24 counts relate to when Mwamba served as Minister of Defense but allegedly failed to declare interest in the procurement of assorted Goods for the Ministry.

Hon. Mwamba denied all the Charges.

And in his defense, Mwamba produced a copy of the letter written to the Ministry of Defense in which he declared interest.

Appearing before Lusaka Resident Magistrate Sanford Ngobola, Mwamba narrated that having familiarised himself with the Cabinet Handbook, the step was necessary as it was stipulated in the book on how a Minister ought to conduct himself concerning any business dealings.

Hon. Mwamba said he then consulted the Attorney General and was advised to declare interest in writing addressed to the Permanent Secretary who is the controlling Officer.

Hon. Mwamba disclosed that he wrote a letter addressed to the Permanent Secretary on 5th October, 2011, and it was received the same day by the PS.

He stated that he has since been in custody of a copy of the letter in question from the time he submitted it to the Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Defense in a personal file he held as Minister.

‘‘I had the privilege of being appointed Minister of Defence in September, 2011, we received an official from Cabinet office orienting us on the Cabinet Handbook and after being oriented, I knew the dos and don’ts of a serving Minister and I received a few friends that were interested in doing business with the Ministry of Defence in 2011, the first thing I did was to refer myself to the Cabinet Handbook which specify that if I had anyone interested in doing business in the ministry I was serving, I needed to declare interest in writing,’’ Mwamba narrated.

It has also been brought to the attention of the Court that Mwamba, through his Lawyers, wrote to the Ministry of Defense requesting for the retrieval of the 5th October, 2021 letter in which he declared interest.

‘‘I would identify that Letter if I saw it through my signature and Ministry of Defence Headed Paper. The original letter is with the Ministry of Defence because it was addressed to the PS and through my Lawyers, I have written to the Ministry of Defence in order for us to retrieve the original copy.”

Hon. Mwamba requested that the two letters be submitted as part of evidence.

However, the state Prosecutors objected that the Photocopy of the first Document is not the best evidence to be availed before the court.

The State further stated that the chain of custody was not clearly stated in the Letter that was written to the Ministry of Defense requesting for the original copy.

But the Defense Lawyers urged the Court to dismiss the objection by the State.

The Defense also argued that if the court held the view that only the original letter be brought and submitted as Evidence, it had the Power to order the PS Ministry of Defense to avail the said letter not later than seven days from today.

And Magistrate Ngobola has reserved ruling on the matter to 24th March.

Continuation of defence will come up on 26th April and 9th May.

HICHILEMA IS ENTITLED TO HIS HATRED FOR LUNGU … but Lungu is still entitled to his rights – M’membe

HICHILEMA IS ENTITLED TO HIS HATRED FOR LUNGU … but Lungu is still entitled to his rights – M’membe

He writes:

WHAT TYPE OF CHRISTIANS, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS ARE THESE?

There is no doubt that Mr Hakainde Hichilema and many in the UPND have very good reasons to detest or even hate Mr Edgar Lungu. They were badly treated and brutalised by him and his regime.

Mr Lungu was cruel to his opponents, to those who were not with him. I was a victim of his cruelty and that of his league.

It’s not easy to forget such things and forgive.

But whenever anger and vengeance try to consume me I turn to Christ’s teachings to recover my sense of humanity: “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5: 43-45).

Christ doesn’t say we shouldn’t have enemies but that we should love them. To love our enemies we must have them in the first place.

It’s very easy to love your friends and it doesn’t need much effort. What’s difficult is to love your enemies and that requires much effort, much humanity.

Mr Hichilema may harbour a lot of hatred and anger towards Mr Lungu and he is entitled to. But Mr Lungu is still a human being with human, constitutional, and legal rights.

The statements Mr Hichilema is making against Mr Lungu as a result of what he sees as a desire or intention on his part to come back to active and elective politics border on inhumanity, unconstitutional conduct, lawlessness, and undemocratic behaviour. And it is contrary to Christian teachings, liberal democratic values, and the rule of law.

The words used by Mr Hichilema were uncouth and seriously lacked civility for a President. That’s language for bakaponya.

Mr Hichilema doesn’t need to like or be happy with Mr Lungu for him to enjoy his rights as a human being and as a citizen of the Republic of Zambia.

What type of Christians and liberal democrats are these people?

Let Mr Lungu enjoy his rights to the full as long as he acts within the law. If the law allows him to stand in 2026 let him do so, and defeat him at the polls.

Museveni’s Son plans to run for the Presidency in the 2026 elections, saying it was “time for our generation to shine”

The controversial son of Uganda’s veteran leader Yoweri Museveni announced plans to run for the Presidency in the 2026 elections, saying it was “time for our generation to shine.”

Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced in a now-deleted tweet posted on Wednesday night.

Observers have long believed Kainerugaba, whose previous Twitter outbursts have sparked uproar, including a diplomatic spat with Kenya, was being groomed for the top job.

Although the 48-year-old general has previously denied claims he intends to succeed his father – one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders – he has rapidly risen through Uganda’s army ranks.

In his tweet, Kainerugaba wrote: “In the name of Jesus Christ my God, in the name of all the young people of Uganda and the world and the name of our great revolution, I will stand for the Presidency in 2026”.

He also appeared to take a dig at his 78-year-old father, writing: “How many agree with me that our time has come? Enough of the old people ruling us. Dominating us. It’s time for our generation to shine. Retweet and like”.

He had earlier said the government failed to rein in corruption after an investigation accused cabinet ministers and other officials of stealing iron sheets intended for villagers in the impoverished northeastern region of Karamoja.

Following a row last year over a tweet threatening to invade Kenya, Museveni had sought to rein in his wayward son by telling him to stay off Twitter when it comes to affairs of state.

Museveni had apologised to Kenya in October after Kainerugaba, among other remarks, suggested it would take his troops two weeks to capture Nairobi.

Museveni nevertheless defended his only son as a “very good general” after promoting him to the rank despite stripping him of his role as leader of Uganda’s land forces.

Kainerugaba’s apparent position as heir apparent to many Ugandans has been evident with his dizzying climb through the military. Still, the government has in the past taken a harsh line against anyone discussing the matter.

In 2013, police shut down two independent newspapers and two radio stations for 10 days after they published a leaked confidential memo by a senior general alleging that Museveni was grooming Kainerugaba to succeed him.

Kainerugaba’s comments on sensitive foreign policy matters have often caused diplomatic headaches for Uganda.

His tweets supporting Tigrayan rebels in Ethiopia angered Addis Ababa, while his thoughts on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the 2021 coup in Guinea also raised eyebrows.- news24

OPEN LETTER TO UNZA STUDENTS REGARDING THE LACK OF TOILET FACILITIES ON CAMPUS

OPEN LETTER TO UNZA STUDENTS REGARDING THE LACK OF TOILET FACILITIES ON CAMPUS

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

Dear UNZA Students,

1. I trust that you are all doing well in all aspects of student life. As for me, l am saddened to learn of your continued predicament of lack of ablution facilities at you institution. I first became aware of this your problem sometime early last year, and l did not want to weigh in on it at that time because l believed that it was a temporary matter which your institution would quickly resolve in a few days, or at the most, a few weeks. However, more than a year down the line, l am shocked to learn that the issue of lack of toilets at UNZA has persisted, and that you have normalized walking a kilometer to East Park Mall to relieve yourselves.

2. Look here ladies and gentlemen, that accommodation which you have there at UNZA is not free of charge. Last time when l was sponsoring a nephew there, l had to pay about K3,900 for accommodation per annum. According to the Landlord and Tenants Act Cap 193 of the laws of Zambia, a landlord has a legal obligation to provide a tenant with ablution facilities in a rented dwelling. By failing to provide you with toilet facilities and yet continuing to collect accommodation fees, the UNZA Management is not only in breach of the law, but also reflects a low moral standing.

3. A week or two ago, l saw the protest which you did at the entrance to Parliament in which you demanded for toilet facilities at your institution. However, my considered view is that you were directing your grievances to the wrong people. Our legislators have the noble responsibility of enacting laws for the nation, and should not be inundated with petty issues such as lack of toilet facilities at your institution. That issue must be resolved between yourselves as tenants, and the UNZA Management as your landlord.

4. The question then becomes; what is the best way to resolve your toilet crisis? Before we address this question, allow me to offer you some counsel. I know that most of you are between the ages of 18 and 26, and therefore just starting out on your life’s journey. As someone who is older than most of you, l can tell you for a fact that in life people will treat you the way you allow them to treat you. You have gone for several years without proper toilets because you have allowed UNZA Management to exploit you, despite the millions of Kwacha that they collect every year in accommodation fees.

5. Before l go any further, l want to remind you that you occupy a very important and special place in our society. You see, the majority of our 19 million citizens are not literate. Out of the few that are literate, even fewer have had the opportunity to pursue a Degree. In other words, you are the elite of our society. But before you fill yourselves with a sense of self-importance, l want to remind you that being the elite of our society comes with responsibilities. One such responsibility is that you must speak and advocate for the voiceless who do not have the privilege to understand or articulate issues the way you can. You need to stand up not only for yourselves but for the masses in our society. But how are you going to do that if you are failing to assert your own rights? If you are being denied toilet facilities by your landlord despite always paying your rent on time, and your only solution is to walk to East Park Mall?

6. When l was a university student myself, l used to have very little time especially around the exam period. I remember how my room-mate and l came up with a formula of cooking enough food to last us a week every Sunday evening, then portioning the food and keeping it frozen in the fridge. Everyday we would just spend 5 minutes warming it, another 5 minutes eating and we go back to the library. That is how precious time was when l was at campus. And l just can’t imagine having to walk for a kilometer to East Park Mall and another kilometer back, just to go and do a number 2.

7. There is no question in my mind that you have been abused, violated, disrespected and taken for granted by UNZA Management. There is also no question in my mind that this abuse, disrespect and exploitation will continue for as long as you do not do something decisive about it. There are a number of options available at your disposal, so perhaps we can look at each one of them, and their potential effectiveness to achieve the desired results. The first possible option is to protest. Apparently you have already exhausted this option based on your recent protest at the entrance to Parliament, which of course did not achieve the desired goal as it was poorly attended. For a protest to succeed, you need numbers so that you can attain critical mass. It is understandable that some students, especially the female folks, would feel shy to publicly protest over issues of toilet facilities. That brings us to the second possible solution; commencing legal action against UNZA Management in the courts of law. However, that requires time and money. Two things which an average student doesn’t have.

8. This brings us to the third, and in my view, best possible solution. Instead of walking two kilometers to East Park Mall, just go and dump your number 2 at the University administration offices. Priority should be given to the Vice Chancellor’s office as well as the Dean of Students office, but any administration office is fair game. Just do it all over the place; the staircase, the parking lot, the corridors etcetera. The good thing about this proposed solution is that you will be guaranteed of very quick results. Secondly, it is cost effective as you will not require any additional resources to achieve the objective. Just your ordinary meals will suffice in enabling you to deliver. Thirdly, this solution will not require everyone’s participation. Meaning that even if those who are shy stay away from participating, just 5 to 10 monks are enough to deliver the message loud and clear.

Desperate UPND MP apologises over unresolved Mopani issue

Desperate UPND MP apologises over unresolved Mopani issue

By Kombe Chimpinde Mataka

MUFULIRA UPND member of parliament Heartson Mabeta took to Facebook to apologise to the people of Mufulira that what he had hoped concerning Mopani Copper Mines had not happened.

This was after a meeting at Shinde Stadium where President Hakainde Hichilema met miners who were expectant over the issue of MCM that was previously run by Glencore.

“Today has not been what I had hoped will be like,” he wrote. “Since President Hakainde Hichilema is the Head of State hence he is exposed to more intelligent information than I am and he is more wiser than I am, I am personally taking the blame for the pain and disappointment I have subjected the people of Mufulira to today.”

Mabeta, who seems to have expected a great pronouncement on Mopani from the President, asked the people of Mufulira to understand his desperate situation.

“Please find space in your heart to understand my desperation to close the transaction for Mopani for the benefit of our people in Mufulira,” wrote Mabeta. “It’s not over until we get done. Limbi (maybe) one day fikapanga (it will make) sense . Uwaingila mu mushitu, tomfwa inswaswa (One who embarks on a mission should not pay much attention to risks)!”

Earlier at the meeting characterised by rain showers, President Hichilema said he had heard people’s concerns.

“Pertaining to KCM and Mopani Mine tulebombelapo mukwai (we are working on it). Bwangu bwangu, very soon we will close the transactions. We are aware of the challenges that the workers there are facing. We are aware of the challenges those who depend on the mines are facing and it is our duty, that is why you elected us into office, to address those issues,” he said.

President Hichilema said the challenges of the people in Mufulira was also connected to the roads.

“You were being told that government borrowed money to build roads. Shilikwisa imisebo (where are the roads)?” he asked. “We are working on the roads and as you know the Chingola-Chililabombwe-Kasumbalesa road is now being worked on. And last week we signed up a contract to do the dual carriage (way), Ndola-Lusaka road. Our friends borrowed a lot of money [but] the road was not done. We are going to do the road at half the cost and we will do it properly. No loan, nothing, zero but the road will be done. Ingenuity! Kubomfya amano (you use brains). Ati ukuteka imbwa nishani? Mano (For you to tame a dog what does it take? Brians)”

President Hichilema said his government was also in the process of concluding a tender to build the Ndola-Mufulira road.

“We are also working on Sakania border, Mokambo border, Kasumbalesa border, Kipushi border,” he said.

President Hichilema said the UPND had real work to do and was not playing.

UPND shall have a field day in 2026 in absence of strong opposition – Mtayachalo

UPND shall have a field day in 2026 in absence of strong opposition – Mtayachalo

By Fanny Kalonda

CHAMA North PF member of parliament Yotam Mtayachalo says Zambians would be shooting themselves in the foot if they allow the opposition to die.

He says PF should not entertain disunity to lay its ugly face in the party, as that shall spell doom for the country because the UPND shall have a field day in 2026 in absence of a strong opposition.

“We shall not allow some individuals to destroy the Patriotic Front for selfish reasons more importantly that the former ruling party is the biggest opposition party in Zambia which is offering effective checks and balances to the ruling UPND government and as such it is good for our thriving democracy. The people of Zambia would be shooting themselves in the foot if they allow the opposition to die therefore they have a responsibility to protect their hard fought democratic dispensation,” he said in a statement. “Therefore, I want to make it abundantly very clear that we should not entertain disunity to lay its ugly face in the PF because of the presidency as that shall spell doom for the country because the UPND shall have a field day in 2026 in absence of the strong opposition.”

Mtayachalo said divisive talk of only the true greens to aspire for PF presidency is retrogressive and should be “condemned in strongest terms by all Zambians”.

He explained that such unwarranted and misguided statements have the potential to destroy the party.

“It must also be realised that UNIP and MMD are now in political doldrums because of selfishness which was displayed by some individuals and as such we shall not allow the same to happen to the PF which of course made mistakes but equally scored a lot of successes,” Mtayachalo said. “The divisive talk of only the true greens to aspire for the PF presidency is retrogressive and should be condemned in strongest possible terms by all well-meaning Zambians because such unwarranted and misguided statements have the potential to destroy the party.”

He said leaders preaching hate speech would not get votes from his constituency.

“Therefore, such leaders who are preaching hate speech or sowing seeds of disunity in the party I can assure them that they shall not get any votes from the delegates from Chama district because the district is united and shall only vote for a mature leader who is all inclusive and has good leadership attributes. And in fact this country does not need merchants of divisions to take over leadership positions because such leaders may have the propensity to divide the country on tribal and regional lines which is against the legacy of Dr Kenneth Kaunda of promoting the spirit of One Zambia One Nation and besides politics of insults and name calling are long gone and as such the current generation of voters want civilised and objective politics,” said Mtayachalo. “…our political leaders must learn something from these great sons of Africa who demonstrated high levels of patriotism because to them national interest overrides their personal interests which is failing in most of the current crop of leaders because of greedy. Moreover, I want to appeal to the general membership of the Patriotic Front to thoroughly scrutinise all the presidential candidates using a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis without being influenced by monetary or material benefits and therefore elect a leader with integrity and credibility thus the person the people of Zambia can trust to run the affairs of the country.”

50 Cent is ready to seize a former employee’s home to collect an $8 million judgement

0

50 Cent is showing no mercy.

The hip-hop mogul recently won a $6.2 million lawsuit against his former employee who was found guilty of embezzling, and now he’s demanding that he pay up.

Mitchell Green, the former Director of Brand Management for 50 Cent’s champagne and cognac company Sire Spirits, had been increasing prices and secretly receiving $2.2 million in kickbacks from wholesalers from 2018-2020, but he was exposed after being threatened with extortion, according to AllHipHop.

Sire Spirits fired Green and took him to court, where he was found liable for the money he pocketed. Sire, which includes Branson Cognac and Le Chemin du Roi champagne, was awarded a total of $6,194,293, including compensatory damages, pre-judgment interest, disgorged compensation and benefits, attorneys’ fees and costs, and arbitrator compensation.

However, Green has yet to pay up. On March 14, he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. 50 intends to do whatever it takes to collect his judgment, including seizing Green’s bank accounts, personal property, and any other assets.

Last week, he reposted a headline about the judgement and demanded his money. “Look I’m a need that by Monday!” he wrote.

He also shared another story where he is quoted as saying, “I need you out my house by Monday,” while joking about his renovation plans once he seizes the property.

“I think i’m gonna put Epoxy floors in this place,” 50 added in his caption. “I’m gonna keep it and his family pictures around, you know as a theme for the place. LOL.”

This isn’t the first time 50 has come to collect his money. Back in 2020, he filed a lien against Teairra Mari in an attempt to collect a $40,000 judgment in a revenge porn lawsuit. He also exposed “Power” executive producer Randall Emmett for not paying back a $1 million loan, and demanded $300,000 from his “Power” co-star Rotimi.

Agriculture PS Green Mbozi will be prosecuted for Hichilema’s Crimes- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Mbozi will be prosecuted for Hichilema’s Crimes

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

ALPHA Commodities, a company owned by an associate of the President was awarded a $50million contract signed on November 12, 2021 by Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary, Green Mbozi.

The contract was given under direct bidding procurement method.

It didn’t take long before it became apparent that the corrupt decisions at the Ministry were being made by State House and by President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mbozi must be told that doing the bidding of State House has personal consequences as a Controlling Officer, he is personally answerable for audit crimes, theft and fraudulent cases that occur under his watch as forbidden under the Constitution and Public Finance Management Act.

Subsequent tenders at the Ministry have been cancelled or awarded by the directives of President Hichilema.

Now Mbozi is in big trouble.

He has refused to comply with the Constitution, the law, and financial regulations.

He has wilfully chosen to protect President Hichilema by refusing to comply with the constitutional public audit.

Whatever happens, he will be prosecuted now or in the future.

In this letter to Mbozi, dated February 24, 2023, the Auditor General complained that his office was having challenges to audit the ministry for the financial year ended 31st December 2022 because information was not forthcoming.

Section 83 (1) (k) of the Public Finance Management Act criminalises failure to provide requested information.

The Auditor General cited Article 211 (2) of the Constitution of Zambia which requires his office to render an audit opinion on the financial report of the Republic not later than May 31 in each year.

He cited Article 211 (2) of the Constitution of Zambia which requires his office to render an audit opinion on the financial report of the Republic not later than May 31 in each year.
Reporys abound of many officials who have been in trouble for doing politicians and Presidents illegal favours and enabling corruption.

The law entrusts and guides controlling officers to protect and secure public money, promote transparency and accountability and for this purpose excludes politicians such as Ministers and Presidents who attempt to bring perversive and corrupt influences to the procurement process.

President Hichilema should swallow his pride and privately engage his predecessor Edgar Lungu- Brebner Changala

Civil Rights Activist Brebner Changala has said President Hakainde Hichilema should swallow his pride and privately engage his predecessor Edgar Lungu over their differences.

The cold relationship between President Hichilema and former President Lungu was highlighted that Monday when the head of state used strong language against ECL.

During a UPND party meeting in Kitwe on Monday, President Hichilema said it was stupid “Kutumpa” that Mr. Lungu and PF wants to retain power through violence and falsehoods.

Featuring on HOT FM’s Hot Seat, Mr. Changala said the tension between President Hichilema and Mr. Lungu was not healthy because of their huge followings.

Mr. Changala described President Hichilema’s strong comment against Mr. Lungu as threatening and disastrous.

“That is a disaster. When I listened to a clip that went viral on social media I could not believe that it was President Hakainde Hichilema threatening a former President and warning him not to attempt coming back to power. Those were threats and most importantly the language he was implying Ukutumpa. For whatever differences they have, ECL is not a small boy nor is he a son to Mr. Hakainde. Having said that, ECL lost power but he never lost his rights as enshrined in our constitution. ECL is not under house arrest. Mr.Hakainde was adequately advised when he took over power to constitute a commission of inquiry to look into the seven-year period under ECL which everybody could see with a naked eye that things didn’t go well and he has been marked timing. He has never made any move. Now today the President wants ECL or Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu to toll the UPND line. It won’t happen and most dangerously the President should not be the arresting officer, the judge and the jury, convicting people on public platforms. If ECL has done anything wrong, let him follow the due process of the law,” Mr. Changala said.

He added that the tension between the two is hurting President Hichilema the most because is the one currently occupying the office of President.

“Yesterday in that clip, he reminded the people of Zambia of the atrocities that the PF committed. He (HH) is President today, what has he done to make those men and women accountable other than to go and withdraw the rights that accrue to our former President. He has no right to do that. ECL has a right to say what he said in Church it is up to the people of Zambia to judge him and judge him harshly. It does not take a President to use public office to run over his former President. This is not the way you reconcile. ECL is one gentleman who appears once in a while in public and every time he walks out of his home to go to Church. These churches are for sinners and he went to cleanse himself and while there he passed comments. Of course ECL is politicking and he has come to realise that every time he speaks, the UPND is rattled and he is enjoying it because you know when it comes to the balance of assessment the greater responsibility when you talk is when on Mr. Hakainde Hichilema. ECL has got very little if any responsibilities at this moment in time. We look up to the Head of State to steer the ship forward,” Mr. Changala said.

“My worry is that this enmity won’t end until one of them for some reason is retired into heaven because if the President is going to keep on saying what you did to me if I want I will stop you from going to Church. Not the law but him. I am extremely worried about that. The bigger person is the current President and I would have loved him to have swallowed his pride a long time ago to take a walk and visit ECL. I knew the gates were going to open there and have a private chat. Outside the media, outside anybody, it could be in the evening or on Sunday when he is free so that they reduce tension. Mind you this is where I am extremely worried. Both Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and ECL have a huge following. ECL has not lost touch with the people of this country,” Mr. Changala added.

The PF Regime Under Edgar Lungu was a Curse on Zambia and should not be treated with Kids Gloves- Dante Saunders

0

Political Activist and senior citizen Dante Saunders has reminded former president Lungu that it was under his reign that Zambia experienced a total breakdown in the rule of law and general lawlessness of the economy.

Saunders told journalists in an interview that the people decided to reject the PF together with president Lungu to save themselves from the curse of having people bent on looting and plundering the wealth of the nation as leaders of the country.

Now that the law that the PF was disregarding at will is catching up with them, Saunders observes that president Lungu and his gang want to create an impression in the minds of the people that the UPND government is failing to deliver on its promises.

He observed that there is a thin line between indiscipline and disrespect not only to the president but also to the people of Zambia, the Constitution, and is underrating people’s intelligence.

He noted that the angry people of Zambia have not forgotten how the country under the reign of president Lungu experienced a total collapse in the rule of law and order.

He recalled that during the reign of President Lungu, party cadres simply walked into any office and directed the police to arrest and detain anybody who they considered a political threat while they remained free to plunder the wealth of this nation at random.

He warned that the people of Zambia have never forgotten nor will they forget the gassing experience and the killings of innocent citizens while the government under president Lungu remained mute.

He said the burning of markets, beatings of innocent people in markets or along the line of rail, and indeed city centers, including land grabbing will never be forgotten.

He said people still need closure on these matters and will support the new government in ensuring that all those that committed these atrocities are brought to book.

He expressed happiness that law and order is returning to Zambia.

Saunders expressed surprise that the PF gang wants to see chaos rather than face the realities of the law which is catching up because this is what criminals will do.

He observed that during this chaos they are trying to create a gang that will rather flee the country than face the law.

Saunders says the criminals will be brought to book not by President Hakainde Hichilema but through the courts of law and constitutional institutions such as the police, the Anti-corruption commission, the Drug Enforcement Commission, and the Financial Intelligence Centre, including the Auditor General’s office.

Police still investigating UPND cadres who said the First Lady Owns Mines in Mkushi

We are wrapping up investigations in case involving five people that were insinuating that the First Lady was involved in the running of Sacko Manganese Mine, Central Province Police Commissioner David Chileshe Mukuka has said.

In an interview, Mukuka explained that the delay to take the matter to court in which the five men have been charged with one count of conduct likely to cause the breach of peace and another count of criminal libel is because the Police Command in Central Province wanted to do thorough investigations before proceeding with the case to court for prosecution.

Asked why it was taking too long for the case to proceed to court, considering the fact that he had earlier indicated that the five men will appear in court on March 6, 2023, Mukuka said that the Police Command wanted to have empirical evidence by interviewing more people.

“I have actually travelled to Lusaka specifically for this matter. We are getting a few statements from certain individuals before proceeding with the case to court,” Mukuka explained. “The thing is that we want to have enough evidence, we want to have empirical evidence. We are wrapping up investigations in the case involving five men that were insinuating that the First Lady was involved in the running of Sacko Manganese Mine. They should be appearing in court before the end of this week. We will let you know so that you can make a follow up.”

Recently Police in Central Province arrested five people who were agitating for the running of Sacko Manganese Mine in Mkushi and, subsequently, circulated a video in which they were insinuating that the First Lady was involved in the mining activities taking place at the said mine.

Those arrested are Evans Bwalya (aged 36) of Itala compound and a builder by profession, Didan Mwiinga (aged 32) who is also a resident of Itala compound in Mkushi district and a businessman by profession.

Others are Royan Dilamonu (aged 44) of R compound in Mkushi district who is a businessman, Charles Mwansa (aged 44) of Itala compound an electrician by profession and Frederick Bwalya (aged 37) who is a businessman by profession.

Hichilema’s threats and bad language

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

It’s been 19months since he assumed power.

But his obsessive focus has been on blaming the Patriotic Front and its leaders for all the ills, failures, troubles and faults of the country.

His latest rantings on the Copperbelt is just part of the false narrative that all is not working because of the Patriotic Front, its leaders and its alleged civil servants.

I thought the Constitution guarantees rights and freedoms of individuals?

So now former President Edgar Lungu’s enjoyment of fruits of the Constitution are at the discretion of President Hakainde Hichilema?

When did going to Church become such a mortal sin and crime? A gravely sinful act which can lead to damnation!

President Hichilema must be reminded that Edgar Lungu has a special place in this country as a former Head of State that ruled Zambia for seven years.Further Lungu is the only surviving former president and eldest statesman the country has.

To this effect, he enjoys constitutional immunity and enjoys pensions and benefits as provided for under the Former President’s Benefit Act of 1993.

These benefits come at the instance of the law and not at the discretional choice or favour of President Hichilema.

The nightmare by President Hichilema and his grouping appear to be the knowledge that Lungu is eligible to stand for another term, hence every move, even a visit to Church is translated to mean that he is engaged in active politics.

Lungu has repeatedly stated that he has retired from active politics and is waiting for the Patriotic Front party to elect his successor as provided for under the party statutes.

President Hichilema has a country to run, a country engulfed in high cost of living, public debt, poverty, unemployment, critical shortages of medicines and medical supplies, high cost of food prices and food insecurity, and the earlier he expends his energy towards the multiple crises than focus on the Patriotic Front and the former President, the better the country will be.

PF DEPUTY NATIONAL CHAIR CALLS ON POLICE TO IMMEDIATELY RESPOND TO A POSSIBLE UPND POLITICAL BRUTALITY ON WOMEN IN PF REGALIA

PF DEPUTY NATIONAL CHAIR CALLS ON POLICE TO IMMEDIATELY RESPOND TO A POSSIBLE UPND POLITICAL BRUTALITY ON WOMEN IN PF REGALIA

She wrote….

It breaks my heart to listen to an audio where some men clad in UPND attire are threatening to beat anyone wearing a PF regalia.

This makes sad reading friends and should never be tolerated.

Zambia is a constitutional democracy and we have enough laws to curb such vices in this country.

In case we all have forgotten, we all have fundamental human rights such as freedom of choice.

This country already has history of losing lives through political brutality. I am highly afraid for the women of Zambia especially that they are vulnerable when it comes to politically motivated violence.

Women will not manage to run or defend themselves, protect them now before it’s too late by holding all those in the video accountable.

You know some may not wear the of regalia because they are PF no, they may wear because it’s clothes and that’s the easiest they can access what to wear under the high cost of living predicament.

So to say anyone who wears PF regalia will be beaten may cause unnecessary injury on our poor women or any other citizen who can’t afford to buy a dress in a shop and consider it a privilege to have received a free attire from somebody.

I therefore want to appeal to Zambia Police to protect the citizens who are already suffering because of the high cost of living.

Protect citizens ladies and gentlemen. You have a duty to protect the peace of this country.

I wish to also appeal to our President His Excellency Mr. Hakainde to ensure that his cadres are tamed so that they don’t become a danger to this country.

Zambia has always been a hub of peace and peace and unity is always good for a country as it enhances development.

When people have free minds, they will become more productive. Let us have a productive nation than a destructive country. Our fore Fathers fought for freedom, why do we want to lose it now.

Abash political violence abash, abashi caderism abash….love you all.

ACC is exhibiting ignorance – Bowman Lusambo

ACC is exhibiting ignorance – Bowman

By Kombe Chimpinde Mataka

FORMER Lusaka Province minister Bowman Lusambo says the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is exhibiting incompetence.

Commenting on his arrest on Friday for being in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime, Lusambo claimed that he was being arrested over a case that was already in court.

“I won the seizure from the subordinate courts and those guys appealed before the High Court, the case is active in the High Court. They are just trying to show their incompetence. It’s my going to Kabushi on Women’s Day which has brought all this. I was told, the system told me. The arrest it is not making sense,” he told The Mast in an interview. “They called me from Ndola. I told them ‘I have another one of your case in court’. And I told them I would only be available after court. So after court I went there (on Thursday). What they were telling me was not making sense. At first my house was valued at K22 million. Now they are saying they want to evaluate the property again. So I am going to court for an issue which is already in court. That is contempt of court. How are they going to prosecute? This side they are prosecuting and another side…”

He said he had gone to Kabushi to support and sympathise with the residents over the high cost of leaving.

“For me I went there to make sure that we show them that women can be anything. There was no one member of parliament for Ndola who was present at the function. They don’t have people, you know politics is not just by mouth. Politics is the connection which you have with the people. It is the message you give to the people,” Lusambo said. “Because people receive the message and they receive the message of hope. When they trust you, they will show that they are with you. When they don’t like you they will show that they don’t like you. People don’t like the UPND and they are showing it. They are not even hiding, that is the way Zambians behave. We want also to go and support the youths. We want the youths to turn up in numbers. This is the only day they can use to express their displeasure. They are waiting for us and we want them to turn out in numbers to go and express themselves. We want to show the government that the youths are not happy [that] they promised mountains and they have delivered nothing. The youths are complaining because all they are being told to do is form cooperatives. Why should the youth form cooperatives when we have a government in place to provide real empowerment to the youth?”

He said real empowerment is not cooperatives.

“These cooperatives have failed. These cooperatives are UPND cooperatives. In Kabushi the one who is making desks is a UPND IPS called Zimba. So this is a failed project. And let them not lie to the youths. There is nothing tangible which can come out of UPND. We are just waiting for 2026 for them to pack their bags and go,” said Lusambo.

PF fumes over ‘ Kutumpa Uko’ statement

0

Zambians know that former republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL) ‘Tatumpa’ (he is not stupid) and actually they are the ones who are pushing further ‘ the Alebwelelapo’ agenda which has continued to unsettle the ruling party especially after the huge turn out of PF members on Women and Youth Day Celebrations,’’ the PF has said

PF Copperbelt Media Director said Zambians were pushing the ‘Alebwelelapo’ agenda because the UPND leadership which was claiming to be more wiser and intelligent than the PF leadership of ECL has actually failed to provide leadership, but has instead plunged the country into serious poverty and hunger.

Mr Moola was reacting to President Hakainde Hichilema slighting his predecessor, describing insinuations that the former head of State would be returning to power as ‘ Kutumpa Uko’ (That is being stupid.)

Mr Moola said the PF was disappointed and angered by the disparaging remarks from the President, but was not surprised because the turn-out of the PF members and its sympathisers on Women and Youth Day Celebrations had unsettled the ruling party and its leadership.

He said the PF was wondering what kind of a coincidence it was that the disparaging remarks against Mr Lungu from President Hichilema had come a day after the suspected UPND cadres ran riot beating up PF youths who had outnumbered the ruling party youths.

Well it is sad that after suspected UPND cadres beat up PF youths, the next day, the UPND President who is also republican President goes full throttle to call ECL stupid because of Alebwelelapo agenda. We expected the President to condemn the violence but he is being quiet.

“Anyway, we are not worried because Zambians know that ECL Tatumpa (ECL is not stupid). No, they know he is not stupid and this is why they are the ones pushing the Alebwelalapo Agenda. If ECL is stupid, he should face him in 2026 so that Zambians make a decision on who is stupid,’’ Mr Moola said.

Mr Moola said President Hichilema’s disparaging remarks against President Edgar Lungu was a clear indication that he has no message for the people of the Copperbelt and is now trying to save his face by attacking.

He said the UPND might have succeeded in stopping the PF youths from attending the International Youth Day in various parts of the country through violence, but the reality on the ground is that, the popularity of the ruling party is diminishing at a fast rate while the PF was becoming popular on the ground.

Mr Moola said the UPND should be wise enough to get worried and possibly find a reason and solution, as to why, its popularity has taken a nose-dive in less than two years in government, instead of hiring thugs to attack PF youths after realising that they had been outnumbered at the International Youth Day.

Mr Moola was reacting to International Youth Day which turned violent leaving hundreds of PF youths brutally injured after suspected UPND cadres caused mayhem in Kitwe, Kasama, Ndola and other parts of the country.

In an interview in Kitwe at the weekend, Mr Moola said it was shameful that the New Dawn administration of President Hakainde Hichilema which promised a better future for the youths has lamentably failed to fulfil its promise, but was instead using the youths for political violence.

During campaigns for 2021 elections, President Hichilema spoke highly about the youths, but after winning the elections, there is little or nothing to point at for the youths. Even from the Black Mountain, youths were sidelined while others ended up suffering injuries as they tried to jump on moving trucks.

“This UPND has no plan, no regard for youths and will only use them for destructive activities like political violence. But, one thing which is a reality is that violence is not a solution to high cost of loving. No. UPND succeeded in stopping PF youths from attending the Youth Day celebrations, but the reality is that PF is getting stronger every day. Those planning ill about the PF will have themselves to blame,’’ Mr Moola said

PARLIAMENTARY PROCEEDINGS COLLAPSE WEDNESDAY EVENING

! PARLIAMENTARY PROCEEDINGS COLLAPSE WEDNESDAY EVENING

Lusaka, Wednesday (March 15, 2023)

Zambia’s Parliament today adjourned early after the House failed to form a quorum for the first time in a long time.

This follows a walk out by opposition Members of Parliament who were unhappy with the manner in which the Speaker was granting Points of Order.

The MPs on the left who indicated to raise Points of Order were ignored.

However, Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gary Nkombo was allowed to raise a Point of Order minutes after three other MPs had indicated their intentions to rise on Points of Order.

Following the walk out by MPs on the left, the Quorum collapsed.

It was however, observed that Parliament proceeded to vote on a Motion on the Floor of the House even when there is no Quorum in the House.

This prompted Chilubi MP Mulenga Fube to raise a Point of Order bringing to the attention of the Speaker that there was no Quorum in the House.

After verification, they indeed found that there was no Quorum in the House.

Commenting on the development, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Brian Mundubile says MPs as Representatives of the people of Zambia do not ask for too much by merely asking for privileges and rights that have been provided for them by Standing Orders and the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia.

Mr. Mundubile who is also PF Presidential Candidate said the privileges, rights and immunities were derived from Standing Orders and Article 77 of the Constitution of Zambia.

He observed that the collapse of proceedings had never happened in a very long time where a sitting Government failed to sustain a Quorum in the House leading to the collapse of proceedings in Parliament.

“For MPs, it is not their intention to leave the House which would result in the collapse of the Quorum,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile empathized that the MPs were simply asking for fair treatment where rules of the House were applied equitably.

“What is good for MPs on the right must also be good for MPs on the left. MPs are asking for equal opportunities to speak, raise Points of Order or debate. What has happened today is a source of concern and a wake up call to MPs and Presiding Officers that the way the business of the House should be conducted should be in a manner that brings about fairness and equity. A manner that gives confidence not only to Members of the House but also to the Zambian people that voted for their representative that represent them in the House,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile said it was important that MPs were treated with respect, allow decorum in the House, give them fair opportunities and immunities, as provided for by Standing Orders and the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia.

Protracted negotiations on debt restructuring is putting pressure on the strength of the Kwacha- Musokotwane

0

Zambia’s Finance Minister, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, revealed that the country’s protracted negotiations on debt restructuring are putting pressure on the strength of the Kwacha. He noted that the prolonged negotiation process has caused some people who are supposed to buy government bonds to hold on to them, further exacerbating the situation.

Dr. Musokotwane made this statement during a virtual interaction with Zambians on the Ministry of Finance Facebook and Zoom accounts. He stated that measures are being put in place to stabilize the Kwacha amid the uncertainty surrounding the debt restructuring process.

The Finance Minister’s concerns come at a time when Zambia is facing a severe economic crisis, exacerbated by the pandemic. The country’s debt burden has risen to unsustainable levels, with the government struggling to repay its creditors. This has led to several lenders, including China, to request debt restructuring talks.

Negotiations on debt restructuring have been ongoing for several months, with no significant progress being made. Dr. Musokotwane’s statement is an indication that the delay is starting to impact the country’s currency, which has been weakening against major currencies like the US dollar.

According to the Finance Minister, the uncertainty surrounding the debt restructuring process has caused investors to hold back from buying government bonds, resulting in a decline in demand. This has put pressure on the Kwacha, which has weakened against major currencies.

To stabilize the Kwacha, Dr. Musokotwane noted that the government is implementing measures such as prudent borrowing, improved fiscal management, and the promotion of non-traditional exports. The government is also seeking support from its development partners and multilateral institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide assistance to help stabilize the economy.

The Finance Minister’s comments highlight the urgent need for Zambia to address its debt crisis and put in place measures to stabilize its economy. The country’s high debt burden has limited its ability to invest in critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure, hindering economic growth and development.

Zambia’s debt crisis has been a source of concern for several years, with the country’s debt-to-GDP ratio rising from 35% in 2014 to over 100% in 2020. The pandemic has only exacerbated the situation, with the country’s revenue streams declining due to reduced economic activity.

To address the debt crisis, the government has sought debt relief from its creditors, including China, which is Zambia’s largest creditor. The government is also seeking support from multilateral institutions such as the IMF, which recently sent a team to Zambia to assess the country’s economic situation.

In addition, Dr. Musokotwane’s comments on the impact of the protracted negotiations on debt restructuring on the strength of the Kwacha are a wake-up call for Zambia to take urgent action to stabilize its economy. The government must work with its creditors and multilateral institutions to find a sustainable solution to its debt crisis, while also implementing measures to promote economic growth and development. Failure to do so will have severe consequences for the country’s economy and its citizens.

How I Found Out My Husband Secretly Married Another Woman She Had Impregnated

0

HOW I FOUND OUT MY HUSBAND SECRETLY MARRIED ANOTHER WOMAN SHE HAD IMPREGNATED.

We met in campus and fell in love. By the time I was graduating, I was already a mother. We moved in together and later got married.
With a bright future ahead of us, we worked hard to realise our goals. My husband landed a good job in one of the government institutions, and this saw us moving. That wasn’t all, we were able to own a few cars also, and this changed my husband.
By the time we were moving houses, my hubby and I had agreed that I would stay home to look after the baby until a later age so this meant that I had to leave my job until she was enrolled in school.

I don’t know if it was money or my husband had concealed his character while we were struggling. The moment money checked in, he drastically changed. The man who used to come home early would come back past midnight and drunk.

In that process of on and off, I one day overheard him making an inquiry on the phone about a CT scan or ultrasound. At the time I wasn’t pregnant or planning to be. So I got curious and wanted to know for whom the scan was being organised.

I tried snooping in his phone but I got caught and received an unforgettable slap. That didn’t deter me, I went ahead and started making inquiries from his close friends and relatives but no one could open up and tell me what I wanted to know, I just got scanty information. So with less evidence to tie him down, I decided to keep on inquiring.

Luckily for me, he organised a come-together bash for family and friends in our house. During the event, one of his friends’ girlfriends asked how comfortable I was with a co-wife. I got curious about her question and I wanted to get a clear line.

When I asked her to expound, she just brushed me off and told me to inquire from her relative. Eager to get the details, I approached her cousin and he confirmed.

I was furious! When I confronted him, surprisingly he didn’t deny it. we escalated the matter to his parents and surprisingly his parents firmly told me that polygamy is allowed in their community and if I felt uncomfortable, I was free to walk away and let those who are ready step in. At the meeting, he also brought another woman whom he introduced as his third wife.

I felt like the world had fallen on me. I couldn’t even contemplate anything other than separation. Immediately we returned from the village, I picked a few of my items and called it quits.

Starting from scratch wasn’t that easy. I sank into depression, which almost cut short my life. I tried to commit suicide thrice before I was rescued and taken to a counsellor.

I think almost a year. I really struggled to move on, especially when I reflected on the hurdles we faced before succeeding. But I thank God I’m now okay and able to share without feeling hurt.

Your mental health is important, never kill yourself or get mentally unstable just because of love. If you feel like things are not working out completely just walk away. There are many people who will love you unconditionally. Personally, I moved on and I’m happy with my current relationship.

Concourt Rules That Joe Malanji And Bowman Lusambo Were Eligible To Contest The Kwacha And Kabushi By-elections

Lusambo, Malanji Win Kabushi and Kwacha Constituency Case in the Constitutional Court

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

I have just obtained the Constitutional Judgement of; Joseph Malanji and Bowman Chilosha Lusambo Vs Attorney General and Electoral Commission of Zambia 2022/CCZ/0018 delivered on the Friday, 10th March 2022

I am really shocked at the extent of unethical reporting and utter propaganda churned out by the public media that Lusambo and Malanji lost the case when the Judgement of the Constitutional Court clearly is in their favour.

The public media for unknown reasons has chosen to mislead the nation by publishing a minority judgement that has no effect or cause.

What takes effect and becomes of the court is the Judgement of the majority judges.

The media, especially credible media, should never be yoked to lies and schemes of politicians.

BOWMAN LUSAMBO, JOE MALANJI WIN JUDGEMENT ON KABUSHI AND KWACHA SEATS

The Constitutional Court has ruled that Hon. Joseph Malanji and Hon. Bowman Lusambo were eligible to contest the Kabushi and Kwacha Constituency by-elections.

In a Judgement delivered by Justice Palani Mulonda, Justice Mungeni S. Mulenga, Justice Judy. Z. Mulongoti and Justice M. Chisunka that the applicants (Malanji and Lusambo) were not disqualified and were eligible to contest after their seats were nullified by the courts.

On page J50 of the Judgement, the judges stated that;

“In view of the foregoing, we are of the considered view, that the applicants whose seats were nullified by the High Court or this Court, do NOT fall in the category of those who cannot contest an election under article 72(4).”

“In conclusion we find that article 72(4) has specified which categories of candidates cannot contest an election and these are specified in Article 72(2) (a), (b),(c),(d), (e) and h.”

“This said, these do NOT include those members whose seats fell vacant by virture of a nullification.”

However the public media strangely proceeded to read the minority judgement of Justice Margaret Munalula who dissented to the majority judgement.

If the law allows Edgar Lungu to stand in 2026 let him do so, and defeat him at the polls-Fred M’membe

Socialist President Fred M’membe has called for a more respectful and democratic approach to political discourse. In a statement, M’membe criticized the use of “uncouth” and “seriously lacking in civility” language by some members of the United Party for National Development (UPND), particularly towards former President Edgar Lungu.

M’membe, who has himself been a victim of political persecution under the Lungu regime, argued that Hichilema and other opposition leaders should still respect Lungu’s human, constitutional, and legal rights, despite any personal animosity they may feel towards him. He pointed to the Christian teaching of loving one’s enemies as a model for how politicians should behave towards those they disagree with.

“There is no doubt that Mr Hakainde Hichilema and many in the UPND have very good reasons to detest or even hate Mr Edgar Lungu. They were badly treated and brutalised by him and his regime. Mr Lungu was cruel to his opponents, to those who were not with him. I was a victim of his cruelty and that of his league. It’s not easy to forget such things and forgive,” M’membe said in his statement.

However, M’membe stressed that even in the face of such mistreatment, it is important to remember that all individuals have basic human rights that must be respected. “Mr Hichilema may harbour a lot of hatred and anger towards Mr Lungu and he is entitled to. But Mr Lungu is still a human being with human, constitutional, and legal rights,” he said.

M’membe went on to argue that the use of disrespectful language towards political opponents is “contrary to Christian teachings, liberal democratic values, and the rule of law.” He called for a more respectful and civil approach to political discourse, even when dealing with those who may be seen as enemies.

“To love our enemies we must have them in the first place. It’s very easy to love your friends and it doesn’t need much effort. What’s difficult is to love your enemies and that requires much effort, much humanity,” M’membe said.

“Let Mr Lungu enjoy his rights to the full as long as he acts within the law. If the law allows him to stand in 2026 let him do so, and defeat him at the polls, ‘ he concluded

BALLY ADDING FUEL TO VIOLENCE BY CALLING ECL ‘UKUTUMPA’….let him not pretend that the UPND is not violent – Antonio Mwanza

BALLY ADDING FUEL TO VIOLENCE BY CALLING ECL ‘UKUTUMPA’

….let him not pretend that the UPND is not violent – Mourinho

Lusaka, Wednesday, March 15, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

Patriotic Front Media Director Antonio Mourinho Mwanza has castigated the UPND government for downplaying the political violence that some parts of the country have been experiencing under the watch of the government of “angels.”

During this year’s Youth Day celebrations, UPND cadres mercilessly clobbered some PF cadres who had come out in numbers to celebrate the day.

This happened after the UPND saw that the PF outnumbered them and that they were more organized than them.

Despite losing an election in 2021, the mighty PF has continued growing big and it still remains, arguably, the biggest political party in Zambia.

And Mr Mwanza implored President Hakainde Hichilema to stop wanting to pretend that the UPND is a not a violent party.

He said when he featured on United Voice radio today that UPND’s political violence started as far as 2005 when the party coined Mapatizya formula which saw numerous citizens living in fear.

“President Hakainde Hichilema must stop pretending that he does not see what happens with his cadres. I don’t like it when the President wants to pretend that UPND is not a violent party. On May 5th, 2005, launched, officially what they call Mapatizya formular. The Mapatizya formula was formed by Ackson Sijani who is now the commissioner in government,” he said.

“We saw what happened in Mapatizya in 2005… government vehicles were destroyed. We have seen what happened in 2016 in Namwala were people’s houses were burned all because they belonged to Patriotic Front. This forced president Edgar Lungu to institute a commission of enquiry on the issue of violence.”

Mr Mwanza reminded the nation that veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga is amongst the victims of Mapatizya formula.

In as much as Mr Mwanza admitted that the country has had experienced some pockets of violence under PF, the difference is that PF condemned it while UPND fails to do so.

“We have seen the UPND violence. Farther Bwalya was beaten at a studio in Monze, Brian Hapunda was beaten at a funeral house in Monze. VJ was beaten at Mazoka’s funeral. We have seen this violence from 2005,” he said.

“We saw some pockets of violence in PF. The difference with the PF is that we condemned the violence. UPND cannot claim to be clean as far as violence is concerned. We saw some pockets of violence from the PF.”

Meanwhile, Mr Mwanza said President Hichilema made things worse after making “kutumpa” remarks against his predecessor.

“The difference with the PF is that we condemned that violence. At some point we even suspended some people. We should not justify the wrong because it happened in UNIP or it happened in the PF. A wrong is a wrong. What is wrong in PF should be wrong in UPND. What was wrong in UNIP should be wrong in PF, should be wrong in MMD, should be wrong in UPND,” he said.

“The issue of violence seems to be small now but once it escalates, there is no one who is going to stop it. The President is also adding fuel to this thing of violence because of the inflammatory remarks. All of us have videos of President Sammy Hichilema calling president Lungu ukutumpa.”

Chishala Kateka Flashes Red-card to New Dawn Government and the Police

She wrote….

The New Heritage Party wishes to express its disappointment and concern on the following matters pertaining to the disrupted peaceful protest March against the 25 years concession on the Lusaka – Ndola Dual Carriageway Concession.

We want to put it on record that in disrupting the peaceful protest in the manner in which it was done by the police and other agents, the highest law of the land was broken.

Zambia is a constitutional republic which means that any law or action by any entity, state or otherwise that is not in keeping with the constitution is not only unlawful but is null and void in the face of the law, as stated in article 1 of the constitution which states that “An act or omission that contravenes the Constitution is illegal”

Our protest was made in keeping with the constitutional provisions and also in line with the requirements of the Public Order Act, as was ruled upon by the Honorable Supreme Court in the case of Mulundika and Seven others, where it was ruled “that subsection 4 of section 5 of the Public Order Act, CAP 104, contravenes Articles 20 and 21 of the constitution and is null and void, and therefore invalid for unconstitutionality. It follows also that the invalidity and the constitutional guarantee of the rights of assembly and expression preclude the prosecution of persons and the criminalisation of gatherings in contravention of the subsection pronounced against.

Accordingly, a prosecution based on paragraph (a) of section 7 which depends on subsection 4 of section 5 would itself be inconsistent with the constitutional guarantees and equally invalid.”

The police are there to protect these rights of lawful or law abiding citizens, which we were, and the police was there to protect the lives of lawful citizens which we were, they are there to keep the peace which is their mandate, but in this case the police chose to go against the constitutional provisions and proceeded to break the law by preventing us from presenting the petition to the correct office and in so doing denied the Zambian people the opportunity to be heard on a matter of National importance.

Further they proceeded to arrest and detain innocent and law abiding citizens without just cause, which was again, a violation of the law.

We want to sound a friendly caution to the police command through the inspector general of police and the police that the days of impunity and abuse of the law in the manner that they conducted themselves in the past are over and we will not take this aggravation lightly on ourselves or any other Zambian, we know that there are a lot of innocent Zambians languishing in police cells, remand facilities and prisons through out the country because of their low status in society, their ignorance of their rights and vulnerability.

We are here to show a Red Card to the police and to the UPND administration that there is no more room for continued abuse of our rights because this country is a democratic multiparty state.

Earlier this year we warned about Zambia sleep walking into a dictatorship and what transpired is one of the signs that we are talking about of the creation of a police state – but we refuse to be cowed.

We would like to advise the UPND government not to use the police for purposes of suppressing the citizens and narrowing the space for their political opponents simply because of their waning political fortunes brought about by their own political incapabilities and incompetences – especially for having failed to fulfill their campaign promises.

Lusaka-15th March 2023

Patriotic Front Presidential Aspirant, Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba has welcomed fresh remarks by President Hakainde Hichilema that Zambia will maintain anti-homosexuality laws.

Speaking when he appeared on Radio Christian Voice “Chatback” Programme, Amb. Mwamba said the attempt by certain forces to promote homosexuality in Zambia must be rejected as the vice offends christian, traditional, cultural and Zambian values, norms and principles.

He welcomed the stance taken by President Hichilema but stated that despite the strong stand taken by President Hichilema, bemoaned that there were no corresponding activities by the Police and other institutions to stop the promotion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transexual rights and activities in Zambia.

He said when foreign embassies flew the LGBTQ flag, there was no action or public information against the act by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

He said similarly, when gay activists hijacked the Lusaka July held in September 2022, there was no action against the organisers or the perpetrators.

He called on President Hichilema to match his words with action to uphold and achieve meaningful principles and national values and good morals in the nation.

Police in Lusaka recently detained four people in connection with a pro-homosexual march past that took place on 4th March 2023 ahead of International Women’s Day.

The four, who all belong to Sistah Sistah Foundation Zambia, were charged with giving false information to a public officer and unlawful assembly.

Among those arrested is 29 year old Gladys Mwangala Monde

On 17th May 2022, Swedish and Finnish Embassies in Lusaka flew the Rainbow flag, a symbol of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQI) to commemorate the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia and aims to raise awareness of LGBT rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide.

The flying of the flags brought wide and heated condemnation against the Embassies and Zambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

And On 30th May, 2022, and during the Funeral Church Service held for Mrs. Rachael Kabesha late spouse to the Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross, President Hakainde Hichilema repeated his stance that his Government doesnt not accept gay rights.

Later a similar storm arose in September 2022 when the Lusaka July Fashion Show event was hijacked by gay activists and homosexuals.

Mr. Mwamba says without Police and Government action, the promotion of LGBQT rights will be heightened.

He said Government should also pay attention to certain policies and programmes for children and adolescents such as Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) where promoters of LGBTQ rights have attempted to infuse awareness and promotion of homosexuality.

He also called upon the Registrar of Societies to deregister organisations that were promoting LGBQT rights as homosexuality remains illegal in Zambia.

South Sudan releases 2 journalists held over video of Kiir urinating on himself

Two South Sudanese journalists detained over a video reportedly showing President Salva Kiir urinating on himself have been freed, a media lobby group said Wednesday as it demanded the release of two other colleagues.

Two of the seven journalists arrested in January remain in police custody over the video that went viral on social media in December, the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) said.

The journalists — staff at the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation — were arrested by agents from the National Security Service as part of an investigation into the source of the clip.

In the footage, Kiir, dressed in his trademark black hat and a grey outfit at what is described as a road commissioning ceremony, is seen with a damp patch on his left trouser leg.

“We are still calling on the government to release the two (journalists) who are still behind bars,” UJOSS president Patrick Oyet told AFP.

Oyet urged the government to present the duo in court if they have broken any law, adding that the probe had dragged on for months.

“The law says you should carry out investigations and produce somebody in the court within 24 hours.”

“If there is no case they should be released,” he said.

In January, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists called for the unconditional release of the journalists and for state authorities to “ensure that they can work without further intimidation or threat of arrest.”

The arrests match “a pattern of security personnel resorting to arbitrary detention whenever officials deem coverage unfavourable”, said CPJ’s sub-Saharan Africa representative, Muthoki Mumo.

Kiir, 71, oversaw the birth of South Sudan as an independent nation after it broke free from Sudan in July 2011.

But the world’s youngest country has lurched from crisis to crisis since then, enduring brutal conflict, political turmoil, natural disasters and hunger.

South Sudan ranks 128th out of 180 countries on the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) press freedom index.

According to the media watchdog, freedom of the press is “extremely precarious” in the landlocked nation, “where journalists work under constant threat and intimidation, and where censorship is ever-present.”

Congolese guitarist Lokassa ya Mbongo dies in the US after long illness

0

Legendary Congolese guitarist Denis Lokassa Kasiya, popularly known as Lokassa ya Mbongo, died Tuesday night in the US after a long illness.

Lokassa, who recently turned 80, was the band leader of the popular Soukous Stars band, formerly based in Paris.

Earlier, he had a stint with Tabu Ley Rochereau’s Afrisa International and later the All African Stars band. He had been battling with diabetes and was recuperating from a mild stroke he suffered a few years ago.

His fellow US-based Congolese musician Mekanisi Modero said he had been informed about Lokassa’s death by a nurse who has been taking care of him. She said he had breathing difficulties before he collapsed and died in Nashua, New Hamsphire.

Also living in the same state is singer Wawali Bonane, also with The Afrisa International Band. He had visited Lokassa and said was devasted by the sad news.

Another Congolese musician Ngouma Lokito, who lives in New York, broke the sad news to his fans through a Facebook post.

Popular compositions

Lokassa, a chequered guitarist and composer, will be remembered for some of his popular compositions such as “Bonne Annee”, “Monica”, “Marie-Josse” and “Assitou”.

He was arguably one of the best rhythm guitarists from Congo, having performed with Tabu Ley Rochereau’s Afrisa International band from 1970 to 1978. During his stint with Afrisa, he played alongside singers Pepe Ndombe, Sam Mangwana and Michelino Mavatiku Visi. However, Lokassa spent a greater part of his career based outside DR Congo.

Shows in Kenya

In Kenya, fans of the Soukous Stars will remember in the early and mid -1990s when Lokassa was in the frontline during a concert tour.

Nairobi-based Lingala music fan and fashion icon Sammy Wamuri Ya Kembo recalled having interacted with Lokassa during Soukous Stars shows in Kenya in the early 1990s. Some of the shows were organised by Congolese promoter Tamukati Ndongala of Tamukati Productions.

In an effort to win the hearts of Lingala music fans in East Africa, the group released their debut “Nairobi Night’. It featured reworkings of some of the popular tracks by East African musicians like “Dada Rosa” by the legendary Tabora Jazz and “Vigelegele ndio furaha” by Western Jazz band.

Details of Lokassa’s funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Senegalese opposition leader Sonko barricaded by police on eve of trial

Security vehicles and barricades surrounded the home of a Senegalese opposition leader Wednesday as authorities banned rallies on the eve of a trial that could determine his eligibility to contest next year’s presidential election.

A cordon of police in riot gear barred the way to Ousmane Sonko’s vehicle at the end of his street outside his home in the capital Dakar, footage broadcast live on social networks showed.

Security forces fired tear gas at reporters interviewing a member of parliament who had come to support Sonko, an AFP journalist saw.

Sonko’s confinement comes amid growing tensions a year ahead of the presidential election, raising fears of violence in a state reputed for stability.

Sonko, a firebrand politician who came third in the last presidential election, is expected in court Thursday after being sued by Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang for “defamation, insult and forgery.”

“He has not been able to leave his home since last night… We don’t know why, there’s no court decision placing him under house arrest,” Ousseynou Ly, spokesman for Sonko’s political party, Pastef, told AFP.

The police set up roadblocks in the streets surrounding his home, an AFP reporter saw.

The prefect of Dakar, Mor Talla Tine, also banned a pro-Sonko demonstration planned for Wednesday afternoon.

He cited “real threats to public order” and a construction site on the chosen route.

The opposition has called for nationwide demonstrations to condemn what it calls manipulation of the justice system and arbitrary arrests.

Rallies have been authorised outside Dakar.

On Tuesday, Sonko held an authorised gathering where he told thousands of supporters that he was “ready to fight.”

In addition to the defamation lawsuit, Sonko is facing separate charges of rape and making death threats, based on a complaint by an employee at a beauty salon where he was getting a massage.

On January 18, he was referred to a criminal court on those charges.

That case has been a source of tension in Senegal for two years.

The two legal affairs could determine whether Sonko will be allowed to run in the presidential elections set for February 2024.

Sonko claims the charges are part of a plot to torpedo his chances.

He has also claimed President Macky Sall intends to override the constitution and run for a third term.

Sall, who was elected in 2012 and again in 2019, has not confirmed or denied whether he seeks a third spell in office.

When 2 Elephants Fight, it is the Grass that Suffers.

14 March 2023

Over the long week end, we saw the Republican President Mr Hichilema exchanging words with his predecessor Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

The two are the foremost opinion makers and influencers in the country,
If they indicate that they are enemies of each other, then their followers will follow suit. Most of Their followers are young people already prone to violence as evidenced by youth day violence across the country.

To the former President, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu
We only have one living former President. Office of the former President is a constitutional office not existing by the goodwill of any Republican President, but is one that is enshrined in Constitution.

Mr Lungu, a person having held position of former Head of State, is therefore an asset to the nation with the knowledge, wisdom and experience gained whilst in office.

You Sir, therefore present a security asset because of information and state secrets that you hold. You are therefore no ordinary citizen.

Your conduct and messaging should, as a result, be tempered by a recognition of the privileged position that you hold curtesy of the Zambian people. Meaning, you owe the Zambian people, conduct and public engagement that is in keeping with the decorum of your office which is above all, none partisan.

If you engage in partisan politics, you will lose that privileged position and the respect due to you.

You should, at this time, be available to the state and the incumbent head of state.

To the Republican President
Mr President, you stated that the former President Mr Lungu is lucky to be alive seeing the way he treated you and that the freedoms being enjoyed by Zambians are by good graces of yourself as President, rather than the Constitution.

That is not right Mr President. A President is not God and is not a sovereign. Zambia is not a monarch and Zambians are not subjects but are citizens with the President only being Citizens N0.1. A President has duties to perform to citizens.

Your language Sir, is contrary to our multi-party democratic dispensation.

You were lecturing parliament and the nation on National Values just two weeks ago, to come out and use insults in response to the former President is not acceptable. Out of respect for the reading public, we can not repeat the you word you uttered, here.

In our culture, a grown up person can not utter those words in public especially in the presence of young impressionable people, that can pick up on this bad language.

Our advice to the advisors of our two Presidents
Morality in our country has degenerated – it is clear that it is because leadership is lacking.

We are seeing a re-emergence of caderism and that those that stood and condemned this are actually behind this from the back door.
Lawlessness is being spearheaded by our leaders.

We find it most regrettable and sad that those of you charged with the onerous responsibility of ensuring that the two most important offices in the land are run efficiently to the benefit of the citizens at tax payers expense are the ones cheering on this disgraceful “chochise” it must be mentioned that the two Presidents are human and will occasionally fall into error and mis-speak, but when this happens, that is not the time to cheer them on but to rise to the occasion and give them wise counsel.

The King needs advisors – people of integrity, responsibility, proven track record in public affairs and statecraft. Proverbs 24; 6a “for by wise guidance you can wage your war” .

Please advise your Principals wisely.

When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. We are asking the Presidents to desist from this behavior because in this case, the ‘grass’ is us – the living, breathing and feeling human beings. May these elephants stop fighting so that we may have unity and progress for our nation and let Zambia take its rightful place as the Beacon of national harmony, progress, development and democratic practice for which we are known.

Zambians have suffered enough and need an environment where the issues that they are faced with are resolved.

Finally, I humbly appeal to my two presidents; please Excellencies, desist from making your personal vendettas a national program.

DO NUMBERS LIE?

By Chanoda Ngwira

I have been reflecting on the just ended events of Women and Youth Day.. To me, what caught my attention was the issue of numbers from different political parties representing their clubs or parties.

It is without doubt that the Patriotic Front out numbered all political parties in terms of participation on both days. The numbers were basically huge countrywide on average and generally.

What do these numbers entail? To me, this tells me that these are actuall numbers of members of these political parties and obviously the measure of any grouping is based on numbers. And if we critically look at the participation of youths and women from different political parties, we shall discover that indeed PF did well in terms of organisation of their members beating all political parties.. Mind you, those were holidays and so, we can not say people went for work and yes, those were not civil servants because in Zambia civil servants are non partisan.

However, one interesting thing we ought to understand is that it is not every member of a particular party that votes for their party, take note of that. And since it is not every member of a party that votes for their party, the difference between membership to the party and votes cast is very obvious, meaning one party can be voted for by a huge number which includes their members, non aligned and those from other political parties.

Due to this fact regards voting, it is possible to have a smaller party in terms of numbers of members to beat a biggest political party hence bringing about the minority to rule. This is a fact no matter the lense one uses to look at things.

Trust me, not all the 1.8 who voted for PF were actually members of it, same as the 2.8 and these numbers could have been affected negatively or positively as we speak now after a year plus of the UPND’s rule. So yes, the 2.8 are not the same and obviously the 1.8 are not.

Based on the participation of members of UPND and PF on youth and Women’s day respectively, allow me to conclude that PF remains the biggest party in Zambia by numbers though obviously they lost. This is a notorious fact because trust me, most of those who participated from different political parties in various Districts are actually a reflection of who has what numbers in which area since participation was on voluntary basis without due influence from anywhere..

Two international consortia competing for Mozambique’s super dam

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Two international consortia competing for Mozambique’s super dam

The international groups are in the race to became strategic partners to the 1500MW – US4.5B Mphanda Nkuwa hydroelectric project.

ETC Holdings, ZESCO Limited, CECOT (a subsidiary of Mota-Engil) and PetroSA (A subsidiary of Central Energy Fund, South Africa) and;
Électricité de France (EDF), Total Energies and Sumitomo Corporation.

According to the implementation office, the next stage will consist of the evaluation of the proposals, in accordance with Mozambique’s Public Private Partnership Law, by an Evaluation Committee chaired by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy and constituted by EDM, HCB, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Land and Environment, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and the Bank of Mozambique.

The implementation office also noted that the selection will be based on the criteria of technical capacity, financial strength, and international experience, specifically in the development of hydroelectric projects. In addition to these requirements, the proponents will need to contract a tender financial guarantee in the amount of US$10M.

The selected consortia will be responsible for investing between US$500M and US$700M as their equity share in the total investment required.

A strong step towards regional energy transition

Mozambique continues to position itself as a regional green transition powerhouse. Once Mphanda Nkuwa goes online, the 1500MW hydropower plant will supply 9,000 GWh of clean electricity to the Southern Africa Power Pool thereby displacing an estimated 8 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The project will critically contribute to the green transition domestically and regionally and not only will provide a flexible and reliable source of baseload power, but also play an essential role in the transition towards green industrialization and electric mobility in the medium and long term for the entire region.

According to the implementation office, the project is being implemented in strict compliance with internationally accepted global standards and tools for social, environmental, and governance (Environmental Social and Governance, ESG) for mitigating negative impacts and maximizing positive aspects, assessment and certification, which privilege the creation of opportunities for local communities, minimize and mitigate the adverse impact on the biodiversity heritage.

The project is said to be the lowest-cost option for power generation. It will position Mozambique as a regional energy hub, and contribute to universal access and industrialization, job creation, technical training, and energy exports.

With two international consortia competing for Mozambique’s super dam, it becomes clear that the project will be fundamental for the process of energy transition and decarbonization in the Southern region of the African continent.

HICHILEMA’S WIN WAS A BAD DAY FOR ZAMBIA, ESPECIALLY YOUTHS WHO BELIEVED HIS LIES – FDD

The FDD media statement stated:

The turnout was the highest since Zambia’s multiparty elections and young people constituted more than half the electorate.
On the Election Day, young people woke up early, stood in long queues for long hours at places like the Civic centre in Lusaka to vote and make their vote count.

Four million young people between the ages of 18 to 24 registered to vote making the youth registration the highest turnout in a country with a young population, with 65% under age 25, and over half—52%–under the age of 18.
The youths supported the UPND because of numerous lies peddled by its president Hakainde Hichilema on how he was going to address corruption and youth unemployment.
Unfortunately, Hakainde spoke very little by way of concrete proposals, and more in vague platitudes—but a platform based exclusively on superficial anti-corruption without being anchored on a genuinely transformative program that would empower the youths and the general populace.

It is now clear to analysts of Zambian politics that Hakainde’s anti-corruption crusade only provided cover for a sharp authoritarian turn being witnessed in the country.

We in FFD well know that if a leader fails to mobilize the popular sovereignty of the masses, indeed if their very rise is premised on their unmediated support using online and youthful base, then they will only know how to wield power by fiat.

We also feel that Zambians should steer away from the tendencies of saviourism which entails investing in one person with all of our political hopes because this oversimplifies the complex political problems that the country faces.

It is now clear to everyone that Hakainde’s win was a bad day for Zambian society, especially the youths who invested all their worth in his crusade despite the bulk of it being hinged on half-truths and falsehoods.

We feel the youth in Zambia like in other parts of Africa have been an important political force and performed a wide range of roles in the political field as voters, activists, party members, members of parliament, ministers and party “foot soldiers.”

Although political parties, governments, and other political leaders often exploit young people’s political activity, their participation in both local and national level politics has been significant.

However, the betrayal of the youth vote has been extended to UPND youths themselves, many who are disappointed with the man who promised them heaven by hollow and largely ambitious slogans of ‘Bally will fix it.’

PF SALUTES ITS OFFICIALS AND MEMBERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Below is the Statement:

Tuesday 14th March, 2023

I would like to convey my gratitude and congratulations to Members of the Central Committee, Members of Parliament, Provincial, District and Constituency officials of the Patriotic Front for the outstanding leadership that you exhibited during the commemoration of Women’s and Youth Days. You have proved beyond the doubts and wishes of the naysayers that, the Patriotic Front is alive, united and remains the most formidable political force on the ground. This is the kind of unity, commitment and leadership that will help propel our Party back to power, come 2026.

On the other hand, we sincerely regret the incidences of violence that were championed by the UPND against our innocent and defenceless youths on Youth Day in Kitwe and Kasama. We strongly condemn those savage acts of violence and we challenge President Hakainde Hichilema to ACT and bring the perpetrators of violence to justice. As a Party and Republican President, the onus is on Mr Hichilema to stop his rhetoric against cadreism and prove that he means what he says by decisively stamping out all forms of violence being perpetrated by his own cadres.

We also wish to make a clarion call to the Zambia Police to arrest, charge and prosecute the violent UPND cadres; this will send a clear signal to would be offenders that violence and threats of violence have no place in our democratic dispensation.

Further, we wish to strongly condemn the barbaric and uncouth behaviour exhibited by UPND youths who barred PF youths from entering the official venues for youth commemorations in certain places such as Kitwe and Kasama. This was totally uncalled for and it shows just how undemocratic and intolerant UPND is towards their political opponents.

We want to assure our youths countrywide that your strong participation in large numbers has sent shivers down the spines of our detractors. Do not be discouraged, do not lose faith; remember it is darkest before dawn.

Our common destiny is to bring back sanity in the country and to ensure that Zambia continues to be a multiparty state in which every Zambian is free to participate in its governance. If we in PF don’t lead in providing checks and balances, chances are that Zambia will degenerate in to a one party state. We fought for plural politics and we should not allow the UPND to drag us back to the pre-independence era of autocracy and dictatorship.

May God bless Zambia.
