Drake’s Dad Addresses People Using His Son’s Name for Clout Following Kendrick Diss

0

Drake’s dad has his son’s back.

Dennis Graham took to Instagram to slam those—i.e. Kendrick Lamar, Future, and Metro Boomin—who appear to be openly dissing Drizzy.

“Yo, I am about to drop some new music and I am not sure if it’s going to sell, but I am going to call some of my homies and get them [to] start a beef with Drake and get them to unfollow him and that’s going make my shit shoot up to number 1,” Dennis wrote on IG, alongside the album cover of Drake’s 2017 album More Life, which features a photo of Dennis from the 70s.

“I’m sure this is going to work so let me get some people on board for this and watch what kind of attention this gets!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be number one 1 day!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Drake has been making headlines all week after Kung-Fu Kenny and Pluto both came for the Toronto native on Metro Boomin’s new project We Don’t Trust You. Drake responded to the disses on a Big as the What? tour stop in Sunrise, Florida.

“A lot of people asking me how I’m feeling,” Drake said to the crowd. “I’mma let you know how I’m feeling. Listen, the way I’m feeling is the same way I want you to walk out of here feeling tonight about your fucking self.”

“Because you know how I’m feeling?” Drake asked. “I got my fucking head up high, my back straight, I’m 10 fucking toes down in Florida or anywhere else I go, and I know that no matter what there’s not a n***a on this earth that could ever fuck with me in my life. And that’s how I want you to walk outta here tonight.”

His comments come after Kendrick pointedly said to Drake and J. Cole on the We Don’t Trust You cut, “Like That” that there isn’t a “Big 3” but a “big me.” Fans also speculated that Future was taking shots at Drake on the album’s title track for various reasons, including because of a girl, though Metro later responded on X, telling listeners to “stop making stuff up for engagement- Complex

“We haven’t been together for a while” – Wicknell’s wife reveals they split up

0

Sonja Madzikanda has confirmed that her marriage of seven years to controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has broken down, saying that the two have not been together for a while.

Madzikanda’s confession, made on Instagram, comes at a time rumours of Wicknell’s alleged fling with South African influencer Mihlali Ndamase have been making the rounds on social media. Chivayo has since issued a statement denying this.

The latest rumour came only a few days after socialite Tatelicious claimed that Wicknell’s wife was being bedded by his friend, Tazvi Mhaka.

In a post thanking her followers for their support over a tumultuous last few weeks, Madzikanda said Wicknell was free to do as he wished because their marriage was over. She said they had been waiting for the 1st of May to make the news official.

“I do also want to come here and say clearly that you guys just need to let Wicknell be and like back off him a little bit. He’s a single guy. He’s been a single guy for a while. Myself and Wicknell are no longer together and we haven’t been together for while.

“It’s going to be made official, I think we were going to be more official and direct about it on the 1st of May. There are few things that we are still ironing out and are probably going to to be going back and forth about but those people who know know,” she said.

Madzikanda added that while he might be involved with other people, it was important to note that he was no longer married to her.

“All I can say is he can do whatever he likes with whoever he wants. He is allowed to do that as a single guy and I am also single. Single in that, I’m sure he has lots of other people, but he’s single in that he’s not married to me.

“So he’s allowed to do and conquer the world how he sees fit,” she said.

While she did not specify the reasons why their marriage ended, Madzikanda said they did not wish to prolong the marriage for the sake of pleasing other people. She said that the two were focused on being loving parents to their children.

“I’m sure Wicknell is still gonna be a good dad to them. That’s what happens guys, love doesn’t win all the time and we are not gonna keep forcing things so that the haters can be quiet,” she said.

London High Court to rule on Julian Assange’s appeal on Tuesday

0

The High Court in London will decide on Tuesday if Julian Assange can appeal against extradition to the United States. This might be his last chance to fight his case in British courts.

The US wants to take Assange to court for releasing secret US military records and government messages on WikiLeaks. He is 52 years old.

They say the leaks put their agents in danger and there’s no excuse for his criminal behavior. Assange’s fans say he is a journalism hero and is being punished for showing US bad actions.

Britain said it was okay for him to be sent to another country in 2022, and now he is trying to change that decision.

His first try to argue against the move was denied. Then, his lawyers had a two-day meeting last month to try to change that decision.

Two older judges will announce their decision at 10:30 AM on Tuesday.

If Assange is successful, there will be another hearing to review his challenge. If he doesn’t win, he can try to get help from the European Court of Human Rights.

“This is it. DECISION TOMORROW,”” his wife Stella Assange wrote on X.

In 2010, Julian Assange started having legal problems. He then stayed in Ecuador’s embassy in London for seven years to avoid being arrested. In 2019, he was taken out of the embassy and put in jail for breaking his bail rules. He has been kept in a very secure prison in southeast London for a long time, and even got married there.

In February, Assange’s team said the prosecution was influenced by politics and that he was being targeted because he exposed serious government crimes.

They said ex- President Donald Trump asked for detailed choices on how to harm him.

The lawyers for the US to said that he was not being charged for sharing the leaked materials, but for helping Chelsea Manning to get them illegally and then revealing names of sources, which put those people in danger.

WikiLeaks got famous in 2010 for releasing a video of a US military attack in Baghdad. The attack happened in 2007 and killed twelve people, including two Reuters news workers.

Assange’s lawyer in the US said they did not see any sign of the case against him being resolved, even though a newspaper report said the US Justice Department was thinking about letting him plead guilty to a less serious charge.

Farmers in UK ride in tractors to Parliament to protest laws they claim endanger their livelihoods

0

Farmers drove many tractors in a slow convoy to Britain’s Parliament to protest new rules and trade deals after Brexit. They say these are putting their jobs and food supply at risk.

Fans of the campaign groups Save British Farming and Fairness for Farmers of Kent traveled from southeast England through the southern parts of the capital to reach Parliament Square. Dozens of supporters were there to greet them.

A row of tractors with Union Jack flags or signs saying “Stop bad imports” drove along the River Thames and towards the Houses of Parliament. Then they went around Parliament Square while people cheered and honked their horns.

Britain has not had big protests from farmers like France and other European countries. Farmers from 27 countries in Europe are upset about too many rules, environmental targets, and competition from other countries. They think this is making them go out of business.

The UK agriculture has been greatly impacted by Britain leaving the EU, which meant that Britain was no longer part of the EU’s free trade area and complicated farming regulations.

Many British farmers supported Brexit because they didn’t like the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy. Many people are saying that after Brexit, trade deals with countries like Australia and New Zealand are allowing cheap imports to come into the UK and compete with products made in Britain.

Organizers are also unhappy with products being labeled with the Union flag without actually being grown or reared in Britain.

The UK has decided to wait before checking imports that were supposed to start after the country finished breaking ties with the EU in 2020. Farmers are worried this could harm efforts to keep diseases out.

Liz Webster, a farmer who grows beef and crops in western England, is one of the protest leaders. She said the government has completely let us down.

She said that people support British farming and food and want to keep high standards and help local producers. “We need to completely change our trade deals and stop them quickly because they will greatly harm British food. “

Japan approves deal to sell fighter jets to other countries

0

Japan’s government has agreed to sell new fighter jets it is making with Britain and Italy to other countries. This goes against Japan’s history of avoiding war since World War II.

The controversial choice to allow selling weapons to other countries will help Japan to have a part in the joint fighter jet project. This is also a step to help build up Japan’s arms industry and increase its role in global security.

The Cabinet approved a change to Japan’s rules on selling military equipment and technology. Now, we can sell weapons made with another country to other countries too, not just the ones we work with.

Japan has always limited how many weapons it exports because of its peaceful constitution. But recently, it has started to relax these rules because of tensions with China and other countries nearby.

The choice to sell jets will let Japan sell weapons it helps make to other countries for the first time.

Japan, Italy, and the UK are working together to make a new and better fighter jet to take the place of their old American F-2 fighters and Eurofighter Typhoons.

Japan was working on a new airplane called the F-X, but then decided to work together with a British-Italian program called the Tempest in December 2022. for use in 2035. The project called Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) is located in the UK.

Japan wants the new plane to have better abilities that will help them in the region where there are more problems. They want to be more advanced than China and Russia.

Japan doesn’t have a big military because it caused a lot of harm in the past and was defeated in World War II. Its constitution only allows the military to be used for self-defense. The country had a strong rule to not send weapons or military technology to other countries, and to never export deadly weapons.

Critics disagree with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s government for deciding to go ahead with the fighter jet project without telling the public or getting approval for the big policy change.

To solve these worries, the government is only allowing a small amount of weapons to be sent to the jet that were developed together, and has promised not to sell any for use in wars happening right now.

The government said the new rule only affects the jet for now, and it needs approval from the Cabinet to apply to other things. Possible buyers can only come from the 15 countries that Japan has agreed to work with on defense and equipment transfer.

Recent surveys show that people have different opinions about the plan.

In 2014, Japan started sending non-deadly military supplies to other countries. Last December, they also said it’s okay to sell 80 deadly weapons and parts that they make to the countries that gave them the licenses to make those weapons. The change allowed Japan to sell U. SPatriot missiles to the United States, which will help replace weapons that the U. Sis giving to Ukraine.

The Cabinet said that stopping the sale of weapons would make it harder to make the new jet and would make Japan less important in the project. Italy and the UK want to sell the jets to help pay for the cost of making them.

Kishida wanted the Cabinet to agree before signing the GCAP agreement in February, but it was delayed because his coalition partner, the Komeito party, disagreed.

Kishida is going to visit Washington in April. He wants to show that Japan is ready to be more involved in military and defense partnerships.

Exports would also make Japan’s defense industry stronger because they have only sold to their own military in the past. Kishida wants to make their military stronger. Even though the industry has tried hard for the last ten years, it still hasn’t been able to attract many customers.

Brief facts about the debt restructure
By Dr Lubinda Haabazoka

– 2019-2020: Zambia faced challenges in repaying its debts, including its international dollar-denominated government bonds known as “Eurobonds”.

– May 2020: Zambian President Edgar Lungu’s government hires French firm Lazard to advise on restructuring the cash-strapped southern African nation’s foreign debts, then officially said to be $11 billion.

– June 2020: The country requests to have its debt payments frozen under the G20-led Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI), which was established in response to pandemic.

– November 2020: Zambia misses a $42.5 million payment on one of its international bonds, making it Africa’s first pandemic-era sovereign default.

– February 2021: Lungu’s government requests a debt restructuring under the G20’s Common Framework, a process also set up in response to the pandemic.

– August 2021: Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema secures a victory in a presidential election.

– June 2022: Governments that have lent to Zambia form an “official sector” creditor committee (OCC) to formally start restructuring their loans to the country.

– July 2022: Zambia’s OCC, co-chaired by China and France, commit to granting the country debt relief, paving the way for the International Monetary Fund to approve a $1.3 billion, three-year rescue loan.

– June 2023: The OCC agrees to restructure its combined $6.3 billion worth of loans to Zambia.

– Just over $4 billion of that money is owed to the Export-Import Bank of China, underlining the importance of Beijing’s support for the deal.
October 2023: The government reaches an “agreement in principle” with a group of international investment and pension funds that hold $3 billion worth of its sovereign bonds that it had sold on the global capital markets.
The deal proposes consolidating that debt into two bonds with easier terms and longer payment deadlines, but also additional faster payments if the country’s economy does well.

– November 2023: The deal suffers a major blow after the government says that its bilateral “OCC” creditors had vetoed a revised deal with its bondholders on the grounds that it still does not provide enough debt relief.
Angry bondholders say the OCC is demanding debt relief from them that is materially higher than either Zambia’s government or the IMF deem necessary.
January 2024: Zambian officials travel to China for debt talks with its Chinese creditors, including the Export-Import Bank of China and commercial banks.

-February 2024: Zambia’s President says India and China have signed restructuring agreements, the last two of its bilateral creditors to do so.

March 2024: The government starts formal talks again with the international bondholder group on a new debt rework proposal.

The New Proposal agreed

– Government to issue two new bonds – Bond A and Bond B to replace the three old Eurobonds. Bond A has a higher interest rate than the other three bonds. Bond B has a lower interest rate but should Zambia’s economy improve, rates can increase and payments escalated.

In a layman’s language the Eurobonds are still there because we have consolidated them with two new ones. This is to ensure resumption of debt service.

Going forward Zambia resumes to pay its debt beginning with over $180m mid year on Eurobonds alone.

– This is not a debt cancellation
– There is no reduction in the Eurobond debt. Capital markets never lose out! This is what I said even in 2012 when there is excitement over the bond issue.
– Lazard the company engaged in 2020 is still spearheading the debt restructuring process!!!!

The best option was to refinance the Eurobond by getting a bilateral loan from any partner under concessional terms or the IMF itself since it is championing this. The IMF should have exchanged the eurobond principle with its loan. $1.2bn they gave is a drop in the ocean especially taking into account the conditions they gave.

But all in all this is a step in the right direction as we can’t have a deadlock forever.

Way forward

– We expect fiscal stress as we resume to service our debt. during the last 4 years we have not been servicing external debt, we did nit have a deliberate sinking fund to set aside resources to prepare us for this. we also increased public expenditure by employing more civil servants. This will be felt when we resume debt service because by 2020 there was little fiscal space already.

– Going forward, we need to seriously work on the bottlenecks and impediments that are preventing economic development. A new radical serious approach aimed at Zambianising the GDP should be implemented if we are to be competitive as a country!

What is a Eurobond Debt Restructuring in Simple language?

Please read till the end.

UKWA Party went to borrow Kaloba, then during there time in office they failed to pay back and bene bakaloba benze ku ikila po. So president HH came and paid all nkongole Zaba UKWA and was in clean books to avoid damaging the credit rating of Zambia.
• Countries sometimes borrow money by issuing bonds (like an IOU) to international investors. Eurobonds are bonds issued in a currency other than that of the home country (in Zambia’s case, US dollars).
• When a country can’t afford to pay back this debt, they can renegotiate with bondholders for better terms – that’s a debt restructuring. This might mean:
o Lowering interest rates
o Extending the time, they have to pay everything back (which Zambia chose)
o Sometimes forgiving part of the debt(as was with HIPIC)
Benefits of Zambia’s Restructuring
Restructuring a $3 billion Eurobond carries several benefits and advantages for Zambia:

1. Reduced Financial Strain: Restructuring allows for the renegotiation of the terms of the debt, such as extending the repayment period or reducing interest rates. This can alleviate immediate financial strain on the Zambian government by providing more manageable repayment schedules. Imagine watenga Kaloba and you are struggling to pay, then bene baka loba says we are giving you more time invest this money you owe us muli salaula or unga, ukapanga profit pay us after 20 years. That’s what debt restructuring mean. But ba UKWA were not paying kaloba instead the money for debt repayment they used to rent houses and buy houses for slay queens muma Salama Park.

2. Improved Cash Flow: By extending the repayment period, Zambia can spread out its debt obligations over a longer time frame, resulting in lower annual debt service payments. This frees up cash flow that can be directed towards essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
3. Avoiding Default: Debt restructuring helps Zambia avoid defaulting on its debt obligations, which could have severe consequences such as damaging its credit rating, increasing borrowing costs, and limiting access to international financial markets.
4. Stabilizing the Economy: By addressing unsustainable debt levels, restructuring contributes to economic stability by restoring investor confidence, encouraging investment, and fostering economic growth.

5. Political Stability: Successfully restructuring the Eurobond demonstrates the government’s commitment to managing its finances responsibly, which can enhance political stability and investor trust in Zambia’s economic policies.

Economic Implications
• Positive Long-Term Outlook: The restructuring is a crucial step towards economic stability and growth by reducing debt burdens that were stifling progress.
• Short-Term Challenges: Economic recovery takes time. There might still be short-term challenges related to the original debt and managing the economy during this transition.
• Focus on Sustainability: Crucial now to implement policies that prevent similar debt problems in the future – responsible spending and boosting revenue generation.
In Layman’s Terms

Imagine you have a big credit Ku bank, you cannot pay. You negotiate with the bank to lower your payments and give you more time. This helps you avoid going completely broke but you still need to be careful with spending in the future! Zambia has done something similar with its international debt.

Important Point: The restructuring is a step in the right direction, but not a magic solution. Zambia still needs sound economic policies and investment in key sectors for long-term success.

WHAT THIS ACHIEVED DEBT RESTRUCTURING MEANS TO AN ORDINARY ZAMBIAN (MARKETEERS, BUS DRIVERS, MAIDS, CARPENTERS, PEASANT FARMERS, FISHERMEN, YOUTHS, WOMEN, A MAN OR WOMAN ON THE STREET)

By Mark Simuuwe

Firstly , it should be noted that debt restructuring is basically about changing the terms and condconditions of a loan ; Simply put , when you borrow money and you are required to pay back with 50 percent interest, under debt restructuring , you negotiate that you pay back with 2 percent interest . And if you are required to pay back in 3 years , you negotiate that you pay back everything in 10 years at a reduced 2 percent interest.

This is what our President and his team have been fighting for . The danger of paying back with a huge percentage in a short period is that , government will go back to failing to pay council workers , fail to pay retirees , fail to recruit teachers , fail to sustain free education , fail to attract investors, recruit nurses , and all health workers , accountants , engineers , computer scientists, economists, development experts etc .

If such a negotiation is successful, it would mean that instead of government paying so much money with huge interest in a short period of time, government will pay with less interest in a long period .

It means that government can now spend less on debt servicing , and spare money for growing the economy so that government expands the number of taxpayers to be able to even service the debt and finance many projects without borrowing .

In what sense does government grow the economy?

1. Increased CDF for more people to access empowerment;

2. government will easily increase CEEC for more citizens to benefit from empowerment; these citizens will then become taxpayers and even employ others ;

3. Government will increase on the number of youths to be recruited into government as teachers , nurses etc because government now has more money to pay salaries;

4. Government can now grow the economy through empowerment to be able to help more drivers access Taxis for Yango how are you ;

5. Government will be able to support more farmers under the FISP ;

6. Government will be able to normalize the economic performance of the country in the long run and reduce the cost of living including the cost of doing business ;

7. Government will be able to help more pupils on the school feeding programme especially in rural areas and be able to buy sanitary pads for the girl child so that most of them do not miss out classes ;

9. Government can now start controlling the price of mealie meal in the long run and reduce it , by ensuring that efforts put in place to regulate prices of commodities are reflective over time ;

10 . Government will now recruit more youths into ZNS , Army , ZAF , Correctional Services, Immigration, etc ;

11. Government can now find it easy to attract more investors who will in turn provide more job opportunities to youths and women and bring the much needed forex to stabilize Kwacha ;

12. Government can now enforce the budget with ease and improve salaries of workers ;

13. Government can now manage to support more fishermen to begin engaging in fish farming so that we have more food stuff which in turn trigger a reduced price of fish in the country ;

14. Call boys , our mothers and sisters selling in markets can now begin to see money in circulation and be able to access more medicine in hospitals;and

15. The cost of living shall now begin going down overtime ;

It should finally be noted that , debt restructuring does not mean all of a sudden everything goes down in prices because most of the stock imported is usually bought in bulk and a sharp drop in prices does not come immediately , but in a graduating manner ; the benefits are gradual but more predictable. Government also finds it easy to plan strategically over a period of time

Hichilema and the UPND are turning Zambia into a “post-truth” country! They shall fail

By Azwell Banda

The past two Fridays, I have said I had decided to write Hichilema three open letters. Below is the third open letter:

Dear Mr Hakainde Hichilema,

In this, my last of the three open letters, it is about the truth, lying and false promises, I want to talk to you about. It is common knowledge that many good Zambians, some of them your admirers and supporters, have pleaded with you to own up, confess that you lied and made many false promises, concede that now that you are in government, you know things better, and understand them differently and must confront the realities as you found them, now that you are “government”.

Others have even pleaded with you, long before the drought, that you must actually start preparing Zambians for even more tougher times ahead. All their words have fallen on your deaf ears. I do not agree with all those who have spoken and begged you to confess that you lied and made false promises, if having done this, you would then be morally free to pursue your ill feted neo-liberal, pro-Western, anti-Zambian economic and social policies. You were not elected to make yourself and your friends, Americans, Europeans, Russians, Chinese or any other people rich: you yourself actually said Zambians would come first, in your government, when you were in the opposition.

A confession and an apology from you and your entire UPND party will only be meaningful, morally sound and politically appropriate if it is also simultaneously accompanied by a rejection and abandonment of your ruthless and vicious neo-liberal, pro-colonial and pro-Western imperialist economic, social and international policies. You know very well that without this, the majority of Zambians will easily see through your apology and confessions for what they would be: fake. And so, you have logically, and wisely too, refrained from confessing and apologising for your lies and false promises.

Anyone least familiar with what the god, religion and ideology of the neoliberalism you and your political party worship will know that at the heart of yours, and your political party’s beliefs, is, as Ngugi wa Thiong’o so well says in his seminal tract titled “African Identities: Pan-Africanism in the Era of Globalisation and Capitalist Fundamentalism”: capitalist fundamentalism. Ngugi wa Thiong’o says, about this capitalist fundamentalism: “This capitalist fundamentalism, what some scholars dub neoliberalism, begins, roughly, with the Reagan, Thatcher, and Kohl era, though the threesome did not create it. It literally calls for the worship of the market, with the common credo of privatisation: Privatise or perish, it says. If a nation deviates from the ordained path, for instance by questioning the disciplinary mechanisms of ‘aid’ conditionality or failing to privatise public enterprises and introduce narrowly defined forms of liberal democracy, then it faces excommunication from the global capitalist temple and expulsion into purgatory.”

This is what I fear you believe in, and worship. Most good Zambians who admire capitalism do not know this, about you. Many Zambians just wonder why you talk too much; they have no clue that in fact you see yourself as the Capitalist High Priest in Zambia who must preach national and individual salvation through this capitalist fundamentalism, clearly a religious system, in which the capitalist market is the god-mediator of all things on earth. A central pillar of this capitalist religion is “economic growth”. You have clearly stated, publicly, on several occasions that the capitalist economy must grow first, before the weak, the vulnerable and poor can be taken care of. Essentially, the rich must get richer first before the poor, weak and vulnerable can be attended to. Unfortunately, the majority of Zambians are poor, weak and vulnerable, and most cannot wait but die, before the rich can have enough wealth to throw some of it at them.

You and your friends in the UPND, long before you won elections in August 2021, begun plotting with your masters at the IMF, in the World Bank and in the US and Western capitals about how they would put Zambia under their surveillance when you would be in government. You agreed to implement punishing austerity measures, deregulation and liberalisation of investments and trade, and strict monitoring, surveillance and control of our national finances by the IMF and the World Bank. Our odious national debt was the perfect weapon you and the West and their global managers of their world capitalist and imperialist finance system used to hand over our national sovereignty to the West and its finance institutions.

Thus, you secured the free reign of finance capital in Zambia, as you and your friends became its agents to collect bribes, rent and commissions; becoming extremely rich in the process, compared to the majority of Zambians, who would sink deeper into poverty. But there is a problem: you got into power having promised to drastically lower the cost of living for the majority of Zambians. You even promised to lower the cost of doing business, for Zambians too. You knew very well none of this was going to happen. But, you salivated at the prospects of massive wealth you and your friends would accumulate, even if the majority of Zambians sunk deeper in penury and suffering. You promised more democracy, human rights and freedoms too – all which are impossible to honour if you worship fundamentalist capitalism!

And so you must make the majority of Zambians believe that life is better now, than it was under the Patriotic Front (PF) government. You need to make Zambians celebrate regular government employment, partial decentralisation through expanding the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and perfectly normal and ordinary government increased funding to education politically marketed by you and your political party as “free education” and university food allowances, among other mass bribery which cannot conceal the harsh social and economic environment for the Zambian masses your surrendering our national sovereignty to the IMF/WB, debtors and donors has unleashed.

The national hunger your reckless and corrupt handling of poor rural agriculture and maize has unleashed has now combined with a drought you were well ahead of time warned about to cause a giddy concoction of severe food, water and electricity shortages, among many other harsh things. But, you see, in the natural disaster the cover you need: you are now preaching that food insecurity and electricity insecurity amounts to national insecurity! Thus you are concocting the biggest lie you have ever made thus far: Zambia is faced with a severe national security threat as a result of the impact of the drought, not your capitalist fundamentalism and surrendering our national sovereignty to the dictates of capitalist and imperialist finance capital! You have the perfect cover to use state draconian measures including the police and army, to supervise hungry and angry Zambians now clearly most are angry with you and your lying political party.

You are forcing on us a country bathed in lies, untruths, and false promises. You are normalising telling pure lies in politics and therefore in every aspect of our lives, as politics is about power to make decisions that impact everyone. You are force feeding Zambians false narratives about how tough our lives would have been had the PF won the August 2021 elections. Your ministers mimic you, faithfully, and parrot-like always start their sentences “His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema” blah, blah, blah. What do you think our children who have mountains of social media evidence of the lies and promises you made when in opposition think the word “Excellency” means?

You are a “democrat” whose government has effectively banned opposition parties from holding public political events with their supporters and members. Everyone in Zambia knows the UPND is also behind the mess Miles Sampa is causing in the PF. You have caused the Speaker of the National Assembly to follow your deceitful political ways, causing her to violate the Zambian Constitution. And yet you and your party celebrate that you are “democrats”! Are we supposed to reject the ever growing evidence of authoritarianism, constitutional vandalism, authoritarian manipulation of state processes, police party-militia like behaviour, corruption and many other things we hear about and see happening under your watch?

The truth is fundamentally grounded in material reality. In other words, the truth is not subjective or malleable; it is rooted in the objective conditions of society, including economic relations, class dynamics, and historical development of human societies. Your attempts to distort or manipulate the truth for the benefit of finance capital ultimately cannot alter the underlying material conditions: Zambians know what you said to get into government, and they know what they are going through right now, and who has made things worse for them. Your efforts to create a Zambia without the truth, a “post-truth” Zambia in order to protect and advance the interests of finance capital and those of your Western backers and praise singers, will fail.

No doubt you have mobs of blind supporters, followers and praise singers. But so too have all dictators in the world, now and before you. They all fail to win against the truth. You will not succeed to manufacture false consciousness among the masses of Zambia so that they start to pretend they have fed, when they are hungry, they have employment when they are chronically unemployed, their children are in school when schools are chaotic mass gatherings of hungry children, marriages are collapsing under the weight of a collapsed economy while you advise counselling, and so on. It is your turn to eat, now, using the government. This shall pass.

A most secret conversation between president Barack Obama (BO) and President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) comes to light, belatedly

By Prof Munyonzwe Hamalengwa

Washington DC, US on a certain day in September 2021 at midnight.

BO telephones HH. HH, I thought I should have a word with you before your meeting with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. You and I are alike in many respects. We were raised by single mothers with the help of grandparents and other relatives. We both are from very modest backgrounds. Education is what defines us. Education leveraged and equalised our opportunities. We both are focused and brilliant. Though they say you are the Obama of Zambia and indeed Africa, I prefer to say that I am the HH of America but without much wealth as you do. We are unlikely presidents of our respective countries. I listen to you giving speeches and I say wow, that is me!

Now, HH, I called you to warn you about some incredible landmines in the business of the presidency. One of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make was not to prosecute George W. Bush for murder and war crimes. I was given overwhelming and provable evidence of George W’s criminality and violations of the Constitution of the United States. One dossier I got was an incredible book of evidence written by Vincent Bugliosi, a former LA prosecutor, the book entitled, “The Prosecution of George Bush for Murder”. What is contained in the book is enough to have put George W on trial and secure a conviction for starting an unjustified war in Iraq which led to the death of thousands of innocent young Americans and the majority were African Americans and poor whites.

I received anonymously several copies of that book when it came out but I had already a million pieces of evidence with which to put W on trial and have him convicted. And I would have been a most popular president if I prosecuted W. He was hated.

But HH, I nearly prosecuted him but then I held back? At what cost to the fabric of the US. Which is more important, my popularity and guaranteed reelection or the unity and cohesion of these United States? I agonised. Michelle stated that I was on my own and it was my decision alone. You are a religious person and I read your FB postings every morning. Brother HH you won’t be making the decision to strip president Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL) of his immunity alone. You have good company in your life. You will get guidance. Besides, you already have precedents in Zambia for stripping the immunity and prosecuting former heads of state .

HH, in America we have no such precedent and raising one with W was a most daunting dilemma. It is the same monumental task Biden is facing with Trump though, like Bush, they were ripe for criminal prosecution. Trump may still face the music and Joe will pull you to a corner to discuss that aspect which he knows you are facing.

I also got a dossier of a great book of evidence against Donald Rumsfeld written by Centre for Constitutional Rights lawyer in New York Michael Ratner on “The Prosecution of Donald Rumsfeld”. I urge you to buy both books to guide you. Do you have scholars in Zambia who can write books on the prosecution of Edgar Chagwa Lungu for looting and corruption? I bet you do.
HH, you have an unenviable task. I still receive secret security briefings and I can tell you that your supporters are angry and growing impatient at why you have not convoked a commission of inquiry into the restoration of looted property or prosection of Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his cabal of alleged looters and cohorts of corruption. If you lose that critical constituency, you will not get it back. I got shellacked in the midterm of 2012. In Zambia you don’t have midterms.

That constituency from the reports I am reading is much more disaffected by the maintanence of the heads of the ACC, the DEC, ZRA, Zesco, RTSA, RDA, FRA, and others who were appointed by Lungu. HH, these people have no business still being the employees of your government. By now you should have written them letters for them to write comprehensive reports about their conduct under the reign of ECL. Why did they not pursue cases of corruption? What impediments were placed before them? What evidence can they release now about any suppressed evidence? Do they have any confessions to make? Can they be whistle blowers? Where are the bodies buried?
HH, your constituency is crying that these bodies are incapable of mounting serious investigations. They are allegedly incompetent and already compromised. They are already corrupted, HH. Some of them may have been eating from the sane trough as the looters and the corrupt. There is no way they did not participate. Why are you still keeping them? In the US, the equivalent offices that I have mentioned above resign immediately the president who appointed them loses an election.

Let me tell you something, HH, many apartheid criminals in South Africa got away with impunity for two reasons: they didn’t confess because they knew that if they were prosecuted, agents of apartheid who were still dominating the investigative , prosecutorial and judicial system would be the ones to investigate, prosecute and pass judgments on them and nothing would happen because these agents would essentially be exposing their own crimes if they revealed the truth. The second reason is that agents of apartheid destroyed millions of pieces of incriminating evidence and indeed when these criminals who didn’t confess were prosecuted they were acquitted by the holdover apartheid criminals.
There are many studies on the South African experiment and how criminals got away with impunity. See Munyonzwe Hamalengwa, “Getting Away With Impunity: South African Apartheid Criminals and International Criminal Law”. Would Zambian looters and the corrupt get away with impunity?
HH, one such criminal where there was overwhelming evidence of his crimes against humanity under apartheid was one Walter Basson, otherwise known as Dr Death. This is a guy who admitted infecting thousands of Blacks with HIV and dropping hundreds of live Black South Africans over the Atlantic Ocean to be eaten by sharks below and many other horrible deaths. The investigation by agents of apartheid were shoddy but there was nonetheless enough evidence for his conviction but was acquitted by an apartheid judge who had excluded rims of incriminating evidence. HH, you can’t use the same prosecutors, ACC, DEC etc and same judges who protected these criminals before to now vigorously prosecute the birds of the same feather?

In Zambia, the evidence of massive PF looting and corruption is there. You don’t need these characters to continue in their employment at tax payer’s expense. Learn from how apartheid criminals got away with impunity. You can never win the hearts and minds of the heads of ACC, DEC, RTSA, FRA, Police, ZESCO etc put there by someone who had vowed to put you in jail for privatisation conundrum that happened three decades ago and someone who had already detained you 15 times. ECL doesn’t even know that judge Kabazo Chanda of the High Court as he then was, had dismissed judicially any inquiries pertaining to privatisation ruling that the programme was approved by the Executive and the Legislature.

HH, Walter Basson’s case was appealed all the way to the ConCourt. The new court reversed the acquittal and stated categorically that South Africa is obligated to retry Basson under the exigencies of international criminal law encompassing apartheid as a crime against humanity since South Africa was a signatory to international criminal conventions.
Guess what HH, the South African President at the time was Jacob Zuma and Zuma ignored the recommendation. Basson remained and remains a free man. Will Zambia enable the ECL criminals to enjoy impunity.?

So that corrupt criminals don’t luxuriate in impunity like the apartheid criminals, Zambian Professor Kenneth Mwenda recommends reverse onus situation when it comes to the prosecution of the perpetrators of corruption. Didn’t your prominent lawyer John Sangwa SC disclose that the ECL PF party was more like a criminal organisation than anything else. When you let these criminals get away with impunity, you are enhancing the image of organised state criminality as being infused in the new fabric of the new dawn government. Don’t embrace these criminals.

Like you HH we used to have difficulties in prosecuting mafia organised criminality until we started using unorthodox organised criminals racketeering laws. Do you have such laws in Zambia. Ask Joe to send a team to help you draft a raft of such laws. You can’t prosecute Zambia organised PF state criminality with old tired laws using same old tired corrupt ACC, DEC, DPP etc. It is the new dawn, HH. There must be evidence on the corruption front. Keeping these people does not offer Zambians the succour that they fought so hard for.
HH, Zuma even tried to prevent victims of the crime of apartheid from seeking reparations in the US courts under the Alien Torts Act of 1787. Zuma became an epitome of state capture. He even facilitated the escape of war criminal Al Bashir from South Africa under an ICC warrant. But Bashir was eventually overthrown in Sudan and is now under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. These criminals should not escape with impunity.

Here, HH, I am really troubled as I make these pronouncements. We let George W and Donald Rumsfeld walk away with impunity just like apartheid criminals. Trump may also walk away. Some people are saying the same thing about me that I killed a lot of people through the use of drones without affording those killed the prior due process of the law. HH, I have sleepless nights but I can justify what I did on the basis of self defence. Can this defence stand in a court of law? There is no precedent. HH, do the right thing and you have company on your side as I can see from your daily morning postings. Go see Joe now.

March 25, 2024 update new conversation between

BO and HH

HH, I can update you that since we last spoke, Donald Trump has since been indicted severally, breaking the precedent of non-indictment of former American presidents that I had feared most.

HH, since our last conversation in September 2021, I hear a lot of things have changed in Zambia while also a lot of things have remained the same. That conversation was just after the elections and what we discussed were as things stood then.

HH, some things you have done really well. I have just finished reading the book by your new Chief Justice Dr Mumba Malila, entitled, “Judicial Leadership and the Quest for a Reformed Zambian Judiciary”. HH, you have done some things correctly respecting the judiciary and the fight against corruption. HH, you are in good company and I wish you success as you fight corruption of the old and the new.

HH, I also finished a fascinating book by Sam Nujoma entitled, “Where Others Wavered, My Life in SWAPO and my participation in the liberation struggle of Namibia”. What a book! What a man! HH, I can see you write a book along Sam Nujoma’s title. Your title could be something like, Hakainde Hichilema, “Where Others Wavered, My Life in UPND and my participation in the struggle against corruption in Zambia”.

Emmanuel Mwamba expresses caution on debt restructure announcement

0

In the intricate world of debt restructuring, caution remains paramount as recent developments underscore the complexities and uncertainties inherent in international financial negotiations.

Reflecting on past instances, it becomes evident that premature celebrations have often been followed by setbacks. In October 2023, optimism surged when a deal with Eurobond bond-holders was announced as successful. However, this optimism was short-lived as the deal was abruptly revoked mere days later, leaving observers wary of premature conclusions.

The cautionary tone persists as stakeholders navigate through the complexities of debt restructuring. Before extending congratulations or demonstrating unwavering optimism, it is imperative to ensure that all facets of the deal align with the standards set forth by key entities. Paramount among these are the requirements set by the Official Creditors Committee, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and adherence to the guidelines established by the G20 framework.

While progress is being made in negotiations, the road to a finalized agreement remains fraught with challenges. The need for transparency, accountability, and comprehensive evaluations of proposed deals is emphasized now more than ever. Stakeholders, including debtor nations, creditors, and international financial institutions, must proceed with a measured approach, cognizant of the complexities involved and the potential ramifications of premature announcements.

Emmanuel Mwamba, expressing his views on Facebook, emphasized the need for caution, highlighting the conditional nature of such announcements.

“I’ve always expressed caution to these announcements as they are steeped in conditional processes. For example, in October 2023, a deal was announced as successful with the Eurobond bond-holders. However, it was revoked a few days later.Similarly before we demonstrate optimism or offer congratulations we want to understand that all elements in the deal are acceptable to the Official Creditors Committee, the IMF and the meets the G20 framework standards.,” Mr Mwamba said.

The Facebook post by Emmanuel Mwamba serves as a reminder of the prudence required in navigating the turbulent waters of debt restructuring. Before optimism can be fully embraced, ensuring that all elements of the deal meet the stringent criteria set by key stakeholders is imperative. Only through a measured approach and rigorous scrutiny can meaningful progress be achieved in resolving the intricate issues surrounding debt restructuring.

Netizens school, roast Fred M’membe for his falsehoods over Mopani

The other day, Socialist Party leader Dr. Fred M’membe, took to Social media to cast aspersions on President Hichilema for successfully unlocking rigidities surrounding Mopani Copper Mines and finally handing it over to the new equity partner – International Resource Holdings.

“Mr Hichilema has sold 51 per cent shares of the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines-Investment Holdings (ZCCM-IH) in Mopani Copper Mines, to Delta Mining Limited (Delta) of Dubai without the approval of Parliament as required by article 210(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia,” noted M’membe.

He further asserted that Hichilema knew very well he didn’t have a two-thirds parliamentary majority required to approve such a sale, hence circumventing the National Assembly to get his way.

“This breach of the constitution by Mr. Hichilema is not without very serious consequences; it is an impeachable offence,” warned M’membe.

However, netizens or habitual users of the internet, if you like, couldn’t take kindly to this. They wasted no time schooling and taking a swipe at M’membe, both on his Facebook page and the Zambia Watchdog, for pouring scorn on such a magnificent milestone which stands to greatly benefit the country.

Zandonda was the first one to pry up the can of worms, “Ubukopo ba M’membe.Bushe balakolwa aba bashikulu? – Utter foolishness from Mr. M’membe. Is this old man acting under the influence of alcohol?)”

Others were very harsh and sarcastic in their contributions: “Bitterness pro max! Ati there are stories flying around……Yes, flying around your bitter and evil soul…Your bitterness is really at another level!” chipped in Zed Kay while Mubanga equally wrote, “There’s one patient with a big head missing from Chainama hospital. He’s about 70 years old, bald headed and heavily armed with an annoyed bitter face and a huge frustrated soul filled to capacity with jealous and hatred of HH7. He has ran amock after HH7 successfully handed over MOPANI COPPER MINE to a NEW EQUITY PARTNER. If seen please ignore him completely!”

Others such as Kapenda suggested that M’membe should, “go kuli ba shimaini and say this transaction must be reversed; takabwele ukwabula ka cap (Let M’membe travel to the Copperbelt and say this transaction will be reversed; he won’t come back with his maze cap…” while Chinyama simply advised M’membe to tone down, ” Your hatred for HH will be your own undoing. Soon many people will realise that you have nothing to offer this country. Your motivation for power is not to serve the Zambian people but to spite one individual in the person of HH.”

Lemmy equally weighed in and remarked that M’membe is now feeling ashamed and he has resorted to playing extremely dirty politics. “This is simply a stupid ploy aimed at gaining political mileage!”

Kashepwa added a comment that left us scratching our heads. He hoped that “the Vaseline president is also reading the comments to weigh his popularity.”

Sobingi was somehow quite prophetic. He suggested that, “what M’membe ought to do first is to travel to Kitwe and tell the residents that he is there to reverse what President Hichilema has done on Mopani and see if he will come back alive!”

On the other hand, Markos dismissed M’membe’s assertions as mere propaganda. He maintained that these are simply Facebook stories fabricated to dent someone’s image. “The truth is; us we don’t care! What we know is that international investors have pumped in $130 million into Mopani Copper Mines. Alot of our citizens will benefit, especially on the Copperbelt; business opportunities will be available, while more job opportunities will be created for the youth. So, get used to it ba opposition and emancipate yourself from bitterness.. HH is working!”

Anonymous observed that M’membe is now feeling ashamed of himself, hence resorting to playing extremely dirty politics! He noted that this was a stupid ploy by M’membe in order to bring president HH into ridicule. “Fred M’membe knows very well the two shareholders of Mopani Mine, but without shame, he has twisted the whole issues in order to paint President HH black. All these stupid maneuvers by tribalist Fred Mmembe are baseless, stupid, foolish, idiotic and will never help him get anywhere near State House.”

“There’s no sale that has happened at MOPANI. That is an acquisition by IRH.
IRH invests $130m for suppliers + $90m to ZCCM-IH + $390m
to Glencore = $610m for the 51%,” explained Kaputula, while Mubita emphasised that, “Glenco who were the investors in MOPANI have been replaced by a better investor buying off 51% of MOPANI.’

Thulani lambasted M’membe for making wild allegations, as usual. “May President HH ignore you. Mopani deal isn’t even new for it to seek parliament approval. The same shares of 51% and 49% existed long before yesterday!”

Musonda wondered how M’membe can even afford to “dream of impeaching HH when he doesn’t have a single MP in Parliament,” while Simon mocked M’membe for what he termed, “umungulu (foolishness).”

Someone recalled that “Bitter Fred M’membe specialised in hate speech and demeaning Presidents like he used to do during his time at the defunct The Post Newspapers.”

“When these transactions were first reported, Parliament knew about the happenings and I believe that one Member of Parliament could have gone to court to push for an injunction. Secondly, we have lawyers in this country with good track records who could have persued this issue until all the suspicions regarding this sale were determined by the courts,” explained Zuland, “Thirdly, any concerned citizen could have gone to court in pursuit of justice. Finally, why have we kept quiet all this time until the deal is finally sealed? Are we merely politicking?”

“Namukaba (You’re panicking) ba so-called Mr president after hearing the Good News!” Quipped Kaoma, “You just want to smear President HH with the hope that you can improve your diminishing fortunes in the eyes of the public.”

Kabaso submitted that “Zambians are wise and they know what is good for them and what’s not. Bitter Fred will go down in history as the world heavyweight champion of hate expression!”

“The last time I checked Fred’s total votes in all the constituencies were less than what HH got in just one constituency,” recalled Mundiah. “You’re better off worrying about how you can afford to have at least a member of Parliament in the National Assembly rather than picking fights with a political giant such as HH.”

As can be seen from the comments above; our citizens are well informed and up-to-date with current affairs. It remains to be seen whether M’membe and his minions will from now onwards elect to remain mute or continue on the destructive path of misleading the general public on this issue.

Mtolo Phiri should tame his arrogance and apologise for selling people’s maize

0

THE MAST COMMENT

Mtolo Phiri should tame his arrogance and apologise for selling people’s maize!

Truth is always consistent and catches up even with the sweet-talkers, dribblers and the arrogant, hence the saying that, “You can run with a lie but you can’t hide from the truth. It will catch you.”

Somebody anonymous put it this way, “Yes. The truth told by victors prevails as the truth.
Can truth be hidden or suppressed? – Yes.
Can truth be hidden or suppressed for long: no. Point is, are people ready for that truth?

Duration of how long truth can be hidden depends on when majority of people become ready to accept and embrace it.”

In our case today, the truth we all knew and fears we had were finally confirmed at the knocking of the drought. The new dawn regime was warned and even beseeched not to sale our maize willy-nilly but to no avail. They chose to live the moment and cared less for future eventualities!

An Oromo proverb states that, “Choosing not to marry during the rainy season is your choice, but dying in the rainy season is God’s choice.”

Safety or happiness is not attained by chance but by choice. As John Mitchell aptly put it, “Our attitude towards life determines life’s attitude towards us.”

And that maize export galore has determined our fate, now we are begging the international community for food! This is what Lundazi

PF member of parliament Brenda Nyirenda is lamenting about. Debating President Hakainde Hichilema’s state of the nation address in parliament on Wednesday, Nyirenda said there is no human dignity in Zambia today.

“Zambia has been declared a hungry nation. When you move, you go into your constituency, calls which are coming, people who are visiting you, everyone is talking about hunger. Where have we gone wrong as a nation? What have we done wrong to end up to this level? We are checking the progress which has been made, where were we in 2021 and where are we today? Why should Zambia, honestly, get to the level of begging for food? What have we done wrong? We need to ask ourselves a question. This is not a question that begs an answer from the executive. It begs an answer from both the executive and us who are in the opposition,” she said. “The question that is there, did we offer enough checks and balances so that the Ministry of Agriculture could have done the correct thing? Did the government adhere to what the opposition was saying so that they could have averted this hunger which has come on us like a bandit, while we have to source for food from nations where we were exporting? Why were wrong policies being allowed on the floor of the House? Why did we allow exports as a country? It is wrong to rule a country in such a way. It is very wrong to take away food that belongs to your children and give it to others.”

Nyirenda said “never again should such a thing happen” as she suggested that the presidential speech should have “where apologies must be made that something has been done wrong.”

“Food was in… what happened? Why did the Ministry of Agriculture start exporting the food which we need so much today? It is very painful as a country that our dignity is now at stake. We cannot live in such a way and we are being called honourable members of parliament here? It is easy for us, we have eaten breakfast, they even called us for a break, and now we are going to have super where we are going. What about our people in the village? It is painful and such a thing should never happen again that you should take food, you go and sell it abroad and you start buying it at a higher price. Where is the dignity? For me, I find it very painful. I find it very painful that today we are a hungry nation,” Nyirenda said. “It is a shame on us that we are hungry, insala tayakwata umucinshi (there is no honour in hunger). If you are suffering, it is not healthy. The issue of hunger begs for a very good answer. We were called, we were voted for, we were brought into this House to defend this nation. We cannot allow ourselves to be hungry. It is painful to be hungry. We will not allow our people to be hungry because of wrong policies.”

Nyirenda added that Phiri made vows that “I am going to export all the maize! And here we are today.”

Phiri however stood on a point of order fuming that “I wish not to get into fights over maize.”

He pleaded with the Speaker to “please guide my friend (Nyirenda) not to debate like that.”

“Is she in order to engage me personally into a debate using my name to engage me into a debate which does not necessarily talk about hunger? Mr Speaker, may I be told if the maize that is so said to have been sold by me was paid for? I have indicated in this House that that maize was unpaid for,” he said. “We needed to sell it in order to pay for… the Minister of Finance is here. I went to his office so many times; [I asked] what about this maize? [He answered] sell the maize and pay the farmers. Is madam from Lundazi in order to honestly mislead herself… mislead members of the family of this chamber, the nation at large and the world that indeed we sold maize and now we are hungry? Is she in order to continue propagating something which is not necessary? Agriculture is a unifier. I wish not to debate in that way my dear sister, let’s debate properly. If I get emotional the way you are, we will confuse the world.”

Second deputy speaker Moses Moyo came to Phiri’s rescue telling Nyirenda to avoid personalising the debate.

“I think the honourable minister as he is executing his work, he is executing because he is duly in that office. As such, let us avoid personalising debate and also I think let us ensure that whatever we say is something that is truthful considering that the minister has been on the floor of the House and he mentioned how the purported exports were done and what led to that,” guided Moyo.

But Nyirenda said “the challenge which is there Mr Speaker is that when the opposition is trying to question some of the things, the executive must have bigger ears and a very small mouth so that whatever they say can sink in, and they can be able to digest it and later make good policies.”

We agree.

Mtolo and his boss must have bigger ears and a very small mouth so that whatever is said can sink in, and they can be able to digest it, and later make good policies. So far, the two have proved to have bigger mouths and small ears. And this uis not leadership at all! Wrong decisions were made and this regime must own up. They shouldn’t become emotional defending their mistakes and arrogance! Mtolo himself has proved to be very arrogant. During the first fertiliser procurement by the new dawn, President Hakainde Hichilema had to apologise on behalf of Mtolo. Where on earth would a boss apologise on behalf of his subordinate and that subordinate still chooses to remain arrogant? Mtolo’s arrogance is very annoying and he should never again dare defend it. We wish to remind him that our memories are not as short as his. We still remember every word he said on the floor of the House in defending his crazy maize exports, so why was he troubling Brenda on Friday? A normal person should just own up and apologise to the nation. Does Mtolo want his boss Hakainde to apologise again on his behalf? This is insolence of the worst kind.

Suspended Mongu High Court Judge Wilfred Muma Pleads Not Guilty

0

Suspended Mongu High Court Judge Wilfred Muma has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges of willful failure to comply with the law and applicable procedures during his tenure as Commissioner of Lands. The alleged offense, as outlined in the Lands and Deeds Registry Act, has brought Muma before a panel of three judges at the Lusaka High Court.

Facing accusations dating back to his time as Commissioner of Lands, Judge Muma stood before a panel comprised of Judges Pixxie Yangailo, Annie Ononuju, and Ian Mabbolobolo to formally deny the charges levied against him. The case, which centers around Muma’s purported instruction to cancel a certificate of title for a public property in Lusaka between April 01 and December 31, 2018, has garnered significant attention within legal circles.

Earlier proceedings saw Muma challenging the jurisdiction of the Lusaka High Court to preside over his case, asserting that the matter should instead be adjudicated by the Lusaka Magistrate Court as the court of first instance. However, Judges Yangailo, Ononuju, and Mabbolobolo swiftly dismissed this preliminary issue, maintaining that they lacked the authority to overturn a prior ruling that referred Muma’s case to the High Court.

In June 2023 President Hakainde Hichilema removed then High Court Judge Wilfred Muma from the bench The President’s action followed the recommendations put forth by the Judicial Complaints Commission’s report.

In exercising the powers bestowed upon him by Article 143 of the Constitution, President Hichilema made the decision to drop Judge Muma from his judicial position.

Judge Muma’s earlier suspension in May was prompted by the recommendations made by the Judicial Complaints Commission. The suspension was based on allegations of willful failure to comply with the law and procedure in the case when he served as Commissioner of Lands prior to becoming a judge.

Judge Muma was recently embroiled in several high-profile cases involving allegations of misconduct. In one particular case, he was arrested for the alleged transfer of Zambia Army property in Lusaka to the Patriotic Front (PF) for use as party offices. This offense is said to have occurred between April and December 2018 during Judge Muma’s tenure as Commissioner of Lands. Bobby Brown reveals he continues to see Bobbi Kristina and Bobby Jr. anytime he closes his eyes

0

R&B artist Bobby Brown has said that his departed children, Bobbi Kristina Brown and Bobby Brown Jr., remain in his life through recurring dreams.

The Grammy-winning singer, known for his role in “New Edition,” explained that his daughter, Bobbi Kristina, who passed away in 2015, and his son, Bobby Brown Jr., who lost his life in 2020, visit him in his dreams. According to him, this continued bond he shares with his deceased children happens when he is asleep.

“I tend to dream about both of ’em, my son and my daughter, which is helpful for me. Just being able to see their faces and I see ’em smiling, it helps me out in a big way,” he told People.

Amidst the ongoing grief over the loss of his late children, Bobby Brown, father of five surviving children, disclosed that he seeks support by regularly visiting a therapist.

“Just being able to talk about it definitely helps out. Also, prayer always works. And staying busy. I try to keep myself as busy as possible, doing different things.”

Bobby Brown’s revelation comes on the heels of a recent hosting of the annual “Bobbi Kristina Serenity House Gala: A Night of Inspiration, Empowerment, and Hope.”

The event, held in memory of his late daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, whom he shared with the late Whitney Houston, aims to raise funds for domestic violence centers.

Describing the evening as “beautiful” and “inspiring,” he said, “It meant everything to me to see all the faces and see all the supporters that care about what we care about because it’s getting rough out there for a lot of different people, and it’s just good to have support, to help try to eradicate domestic violence.”

In January 2015, Bobbi Kristina Brown was discovered unconscious in a bathtub at her residence, shared with her ex, Nick Gordon.

After spending nearly six months in a coma, she passed away at the age of 22 due to lobar pneumonia, with reports indicating a combination of drowning and drug intoxication as the cause.

Her demise bore striking similarities to that of her mother, Whitney Houston, who was found submerged in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills hotel in February 2012, with cocaine detected in her system among other substances, according to multiple reports.

Reports revealed that in addition to cocaine, traces of marijuana, the anxiety medication Xanax, the muscle relaxer Flexeril, and the antihistamine Benadryl were found in Whitney Houston’s system at the time of her death.

However, these substances were not considered contributory to her passing. Houston’s death was officially attributed to accidental drowning compounded by the effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.

Bobby Brown’s son, Bobby Brown, Jr. died at age 28 of an accidental drug overdose in 2020.

NFL’s Terrell Owens on how he lost everything despite making $80M: ‘I believed they had my back’

0

errell Owens is a former NFL player who is listed as the No. 6 greatest wide receiver of all time. He had 1,078 receptions, 15,934 yards, and 153 touchdowns. Despite his enviable record in the league, he never won a Superbowl for the 49ers. Nonetheless, he was inducted as a 2018 Football Hall of Fame class member.

He earned an estimated $80 million during his playing days, as per data from Spotrac. However, the Hall of Famer lost a significant portion of his money as a result of bad financial decisions and a suicide attempt.

He reportedly lost millions in the real estate crash; a friend embezzled money from him; and his financial advisor (recommended by his former agent) made bad investments allegedly costing him $6.5 million, according to CNBC Make It.

Owens further spoke about some of the bad financial decisions he made in an interview with GQ. He revealed that some of the decisions were mainly due to his trust in others to invest and manage his money.

“I hate myself for letting this happen,” he told the fashion publication. “I believed they had my back when they said, ‘You take care of the football, and we’ll do the rest.’ And in the end, they just basically stole from me.”

According to Celebrity Net Worth, as a result of his poor financial decisions, his fortune fell from $80 million to $500,000.

Despite the challenges he faced concerning his finances, he managed to fix himself and became in charge of his own finances, he said while speaking at Collision Conference in New Orleans in 2017.

“I have to go do my due diligence,” said Owens of what he learned about being successful in business. “When I wasn’t as knowledgeable, when I put a lot of trust in the people that I hired, those are the ones that burned me, when I wasn’t really 100 percent in.”

“I allowed them to take control of the wheel,” he said. “Now I’m in the [driver’s] seat with them,” said the former NLF player, who started a clothing line, Prototype 81.

Manchester United ‘could be barred from playing in Europe next season’ as UEFA ‘refuse to change ownership rules

0

Manchester United face being barred from Europe next season after Uefa stuck to their ban on clubs under the same ownership competing against each other.

Uefa have finally published its new regulations about ‘multi-club ownership’ issues.

While clubs under the same ownership umbrella can play in Europe if they are in different competitions, the ban on clubs taking part in the same one remains in place.

Ratcliffe and his INEOS Group also own Nice, with the French side currently fifth in Ligue 1 and on course to secure European football.

Uefa have now confirmed there IS a blanket ban on clubs under the same ownership taking part in the same competition despite a revision of its rulebook.

A source from the organisation confirmed the news to The Sun: ‘It is correct that Manchester United and Nice cannot play in the same competition.

‘They could play in different competitions, as there is no “feeding” between competitions anymore.’

As it stands Erik ten Hag’s team are six points behind Tottenham and nine behind Aston Villa in the race for European qualification.

However, the FA Cup remains a viable entry into European competitions for the club, as even if Manchester City retain their crown the additional league space given a European berth would be go to their rivals.

However, should that happen while Nice secure a Europa League spot through a fifth-placed finish they would take precedence over United, forcing the Premier League club to drop into the Conference League.

However, if United manage to triumph in the FA Cup this season they would take precedence and Francesco Farioli’s side would instead be placed in the Conference League.

Likewise, if both teams manage to qualify for the Champions League this season, the place will be allocated to the team who finish higher in their respective league.

If both teams finish in the same position domestically, United would still take precedence based on England’s spot at the top of UEFA’s coefficient.

However, there remains a scenario in which both United and Nice qualify for the Conference League through their domestic cups but Nice maintain a higher league position.

Should this prove to be the case, the French side would be given the spot with United left without any European football.

Joao Cancelo accuses Pep Guardiola of telling ‘lies’ and labels his club Man City as ‘ungrateful’

Joao Cancelo has reportedly slammed his parent club Manchester City in an explosive rant in which he accuses manager Pep Guardiola of telling ‘lies’.

The Portuguese international is currently on a season-long loan at Barcelona, after spending the second half of last year at Bayern Munich.

Reports had suggested that Guardiola was unhappy with Cancelo’s reaction to being dropped from City’s starting XI during their Treble winning season.

In an interview with Portuguese publication A Bola, the 29-year-old winger slammed Guardiola’s claims.

He said: ‘Lies were told! I’ve never been a bad team-mate for them and you can ask either (Nathan) Ake or Rico (Lewis). I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that’s the manager’s opinion.

‘I stayed because it’s not true. I think Man City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that because I was a very important player in the years I was there.

‘I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans and I always gave everything. I remember a time when I was robbed and attacked and the next day I was playing at the Emirates against Arsenal.

‘These are things you don’t forget, I left my wife and daughter alone at home, terrified. People will only remember this because Mister Guardiola has much more power than me when he says something and I prefer to keep to myself.’

Cancelo insisted that he ‘wishes’ everything goes well at Man City but also adds that he made the right choice to leave on loan in January 2023 – despite missing out on the Treble.

He said: ‘Certain things dictated that I was loaned last year to Bayern Munich. I have no regrets, even if City won the Champions League. I feel like I made the right choice, that I went to a club that really wanted me, even before renewing my contract. It was a club that gave me a lot in the six months I was there.’

After letting Cancelo leave on loan last season, Guardiola said: ‘I wish him the very best. He has been an incredible figure in winning two Premier League titles.

‘After the World Cup, we have been playing in different patterns and I’ve given more time to other players.

‘Everyone has their own personality. He loves to play, he trains the best but he needs to play to be happy, so we decided together to let him go to Munich.’

Dani Alves is reportedly set to be released from prison this afternoon by depositing a €1million bail

0

Dani Alves is reportedly set to be released from prison this afternoon by depositing a €1million (£850,000) bail bond over his rape conviction.

According to Mail Online, the footballer is also understood to have complied with the other orders of the three judges who said he could leave jail despite his recent rape conviction by handing in his Spanish and Brazilian passports.

The 40-year-old father-of-two is now expected to be freed for the first time in 14 months around 5pm local time.

He was told he could leave Brian 2 Prison near Barcelona last Wednesday after winning his bid to appeal his four-and-a-half-year jail sentence from the comfort of his own home rather than a cell.

But his failure to get together the bail bond meant he remained behind bars over the weekend.

Alves’ lawyer Ines Guardiola has said the Brazilian has two bank accounts in Spain, one with no balance and the other with €51,000 (£44,000), with a judicial seizure of €50,000 (£43,000).

Guardiola claimed last year that her client ‘is broke’ and has a ‘negative bank balance of £17,000’, despite reportedly once having a fortune of £47million.

Sport reported that Alves’ accounts in Brazil have also been blocked due to problems with his ex-wife Dinorah Santana.

Alves, however, is expected to receive €9.2 million (£7.9 million) after his tax lawyer Fernando Mota won four cases against Spain’s tax agency.

The hearing to determine Alves’s bail had noted the 40-year-old was set to receive ‘a large sum of money’ back from the treasury, but he has not yet received the funds.

Brazilian teammate Neymar’s dad had been expected to help Alves pay the money to secure his freedom, but he issued a statement denying he would hand over any cash after coming under political pressure in his homeland.

Alves, convicted on February 22 of raping a 23-year-old woman in the toilet of upmarket Barcelona nightclub Sutton after a three-day trial earlier the same month, is set to spend his first night of freedom since January 20 last year at his £ 4 million mansion in Esplugues de Llobregat a 25-minute drive west of Barcelona’s city centre.

The jail sentence he received was far less than the nine years public prosecutors demanded and the 12 years Alves’ female accuser wanted if he was convicted.

Prosecutors have appealed the decision to release him on bail, but the appeal is not set to affect today’s expected release.

Alves protested his innocence on February 7 after taking the stand on the last day of his three-day trial, saying the sex he had with his 23-year-old female accuser was consensual and insisting he would never hurt anyone.

The woman he was found guilty of raping insisted he had forced himself on her after hitting her when she gave her evidence in court behind a screen.

The three trial judges confirmed in a 61-page written ruling released after Alves learnt his sentence they had taken into account as a ‘mitigating factor’ his pre-payment of the €150,000 (£128,000) he was ordered to give his victim as compensation.

They concluded she had danced with Alves before going voluntarily to a toilet next to Sutton’s VIP area the footballer had entered moments earlier in what they described as an apparent ‘prior agreement’ to ‘be with him in a more intimate space.’

But outlining what they ruled had been proven and had contributed to them convicting Alves, they added: ‘He tried to penetrate his victim by making use of his greater strength and throwing her on the floor and making her bang her knee.

‘The victim asked Dani Alves to let her leave, making it clear she wanted to get out of there, but he didn’t let her.

‘Finding herself in that situation, in that small toilet without any option of being able to leave because Mr Alves was preventing her with the violent attitude he was demonstrating, she felt shocked and unable to react or breathe properly given the situation of anguish and terror she was experiencing.’

They added of the toilet rape: ‘Using his physical strength and overcoming his victim’s opposition, Alves bent her over the toilet and raped his victim until he ejaculated inside her, without using a condom and without her consent.’

Clergyman Able Damina rubbishes Pastor Adeboye’s claim of drinking tea with God many years ago

0

Clergyman Able Damina has rubbished Pastor Adeboye’s claim that he drank some tea with God many years ago.

While preaching to church members sometime back, Adeboye said he went for a Ministration with his wife in Ilorin, Kwara state and God joined him to drink tea.

In his words;

‘’I was in Ilorin years, ago. We were having breakfast. We have a pot in which we make tea. There are five cups in that pot. My wife and I take the tea. I took one cup, she took one cup. I took one and she took one. Then I picked the pot to take the third one and the pot was empty. I looked at her, I couldn’t remember when she took the third one. What happened to my tea?

And then I heard the voice of the lord loud and clear and said ‘ Son, when you prayed, you invited me to join you

Some of you don’t know why I call him Daddy! We have a relationship that is difficult to describe”

Damina appears not to have believed the story and during his sermon, fired shots at Adeboye. He said;

‘’Somebody say he drank tea with God. When you read the bible, God said If I were hungry, I will not ask you what food do you have? I don’t eat human food. My son, Give me your heart. He said If I wanted a house to live in, I wouldn’t live in your house, the cattle upon a thousand hill belongs to me, I own it all. I don’t need any of these things. You need them, I don’t. What I need is your heart.

I forgot to ask what brand of tea it was so we could all start drinking that brand. Peradventure, God may join us to drink.

It is time for us to expose all these lies free people from religious manipulation and bring them into Christ emancipation. Our loyalty is to Christ. There is only one person who died and that is the person we owe our loyalty to. I will only honour men who honour him.”

Debt restructuring deal done: Debt repayment extended for another 20 years with 3 years Grace period in order to stabilize the economy

Zambia External Bondholder Steering Committee Reaches Agreement with Zambia on Debt Restructuring

US and Europe, March 25, 2024

The Zambia External Bondholder Steering Committee (the “Committee”) is pleased to announce that it has reached
a conclusive agreement (the “2024 Agreement”) with the Government of Zambia (the “Government”) on a
restructuring of Zambia’s (i) US$750,000,000 5.375 per cent. Notes due 2022, (ii) US$1,000,000,000 8.500 per
cent. Notes due 2024 and (iii) US$1,250,000,000 8.970 per cent. Amortising Notes due 2027 (collectively the
“Eurobonds”).

This agreement follows the Government’s confirmation that the terms of the 2024 Agreement are compatible with
Zambia’s Official Creditor Committee (the “OCC”) assessment of comparability of treatment and the IMF’s
program parameters under the Second Review framework.

Since November 2023 when the OCC determined that the previous agreement-in-principle reached with the
Government (the “November 2023 AIP”) did not meet the requirements of the comparability of treatment
provisions set out in the memorandum of understanding (“MOU”), the Committee has continued to support the
Government’s efforts to pursue a restructuring on terms close to those of the November 2023 AIP, recognising that
some adjustments were required as that agreement was predicated on implementation of a restructuring before 31
December 2023.

While the 2024 Agreement provides some further debt relief beyond that provided for in the November 2023 AIP,
these additional concessions will allow for the-standing default on the Eurobonds to be cured, will support the
restoration of Zambia’s macro-economic and debt sustainability in the context of the IMF-financed program, and
were required to ensure the support of all key stakeholders including the IMF and the OCC in a timely manner.
Prompt implementation of a debt restructuring agreement with bondholders is not only in Zambia’s interests, but
the wider creditor community as a whole.

The proposed restructuring terms set out in the 2024 Agreement are based on the same structure as the November
2023 AIP. Two new Eurobonds (further described as Bond A and Bond B in the Government’s press release) will
be issued which provide future debt relief commensurate with Zambia’s economic progress in the next few years.
While the 2024 Agreement requires both additional debt reduction and net present value relief compared to the
restructuring terms agreed pursuant to the November 2023 AIP, it also includes enhanced repayment terms and
higher coupons on Bond B, in the event that Zambia’s debt carrying capacity, as assessed by the IMF and World
Bank’s Composite Indicator, moves to medium from weak or Zambia continues to meet or exceeds current IMF
projections as measured by exports of goods, services and fiscal revenues measured in US Dollars. The 2024
Agreement also includes agreement on certain non-financial terms, including a most favoured creditor clause that
will ensure that certain other creditors do not receive a better recovery in the restructuring on net present value
terms, a loss reinstatement clause if Zambia were to default during the term of the IMF program, and certain ongoing
information covenants for Zambia.

The Committee appreciates the collaborative and transparent discussions with the Government that have allowed
for this conclusive agreement to be reached.

A spokesperson on behalf of the Committee said: “We are pleased to have finally reached a definitive and
conclusive agreement with the Government that is supported by all stakeholders and which will, in due course,
restore full international capital markets access to Zambia and encourage long-term investment in the country, to
the benefit of all Zambians.”

The key elements of the 2024 Agreement are contained in the Government’s press release. Implementation of the
2024 Agreement is conditional on mutual agreement on deal documentation, and the objective is to fully implement
the agreement as promptly as feasible.

The Committee encourages all holders of the Eurobonds to carefully consider the terms of the Government’s
prospective offer in relation to the 2024 Agreement and to make their own independent appraisal of the merits and
risks of participation.

Members of the Committee include the following asset managers (acting either directly or on behalf of funds or
other accounts they manage): Amia Capital LLP; Amundi (UK) Limited; Farallon Capital Management, LLC;
Greylock Capital Management, LLC; RBC BlueBay Asset Management.

JUDAS ISCARIOT OF TODAY IS THE ONE WHO BETRAYS POOR PEOPLE- Fred M’membe

JUDAS ISCARIOT OF TODAY IS THE ONE WHO BETRAYS POOR PEOPLE

By Fox Correspondent
WHEN people talk about betrayal today, it is not necessarily about Judas Iscariot of that time, but it is Judas Iscariot of today, Socialist Party (SP) preaident Fred M’membe has warned Zambians.

Speaking when he joined parishioners to commemorate Palm Sunday at St Joseph Catholic Church, Mpanshya Parish in Rusunsa District of Lusaka Province, Sunday, Dr M’membe said the Judas Iscariot of today is the one who betrays the poor.

He explained that one betrays the poor by lying and stealing from them.

“The Priest talked about betrayal. Today we are much more concerned about the betrayal of Christ. It happened, over 2000 years ago. But the betrayal of Christ is still happening today. He who betrays the poor betrays Christ,” he said.

“Today Christ is with us here, much more with us through the poor. Because the poor were very close to his heart, to his mission. So, when we talk about betrayal today, it is not necessarily about Judas Iscariot of that time, but it is Judas Iscariot of today and the Judas Iscariot of today is the one who betrays the poor. How do you betray the poor? You betray the poor by lying to them, stealing from them, ukubanyunya, ukubagong’a, ukubateka nensala, ukubateka mubupinda, mubuchushi, eh betrayal iyiliko.”

He also shared with the parishioners that from the sermon, he drew a lesson on humility.

“I have been a catholic for 65 years. Even the vice president who I am with here has also been catholic for 65 years. I have not come to preach; I have come to be preached to. And from the preaching that went on today I have leant two things. The first one, the priest said Jesus has humility. The second lesson is betrayal,” he said.

“When Jesus entered Jerusalem, he didn’t enter with a horse. He entered on a donkey. A donkey is not a very respected animal, although it does a lot of work for us. That was humility. We lined up today, we walked with palms in our hands. Those palms were there to receive Christ. We will not receive Christ the way they received him in Jerusalem. But we receive Christ in our hearts. And that is the essence of palm Sunday, in my view. Let Christ dwell in our hearts. Let Christ be in our hearts and in all the works of our hands.”

Top BRE Induna Inete Akapelwa killed due to a family land dispute

A close relative to the late Borotseland Royal Establishment – BRE Senior Induna Inete Mwangelwa Akapelwa, has exclusively revealed to the Zambian Business Times – ZBT, that the suspected killer who is also a priest in a named church, allegedly shot dead the induna over a family land dispute.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Zambian Business Times -ZBT, a close relative to the late Induna Inete who asked for their name to be withheld revealed that the land in question allegedly belongs to the late Induna who was given the land by his great grandfather who was a Ngambela to king Lewanika.

The source revealed that court issues over the late Induna’s land began when it was discovered that the land for the late Induna was too close to the general land belonging to each and every Ngambela who takes over at the Kuta.

The source noted that land belonging to the Kuta for every Ngambela has specific boundaries and there are people mandated to take care of it.

The source further noted that the people mandated to take care of specific boundaries of the land that belong to the Kuta are the families where the alleged killers of the late Induna came from.

“The suspected killer Is a priest in the New apostolic church. So the police managed to trace the killer using GPS through his mobile phone,” the source revealed.

“It’s completely a family land dispute that is where that problem is coming from. The great grand father to the man who has passed on was a Ngambela to king Lewanika and he was given personal land for the family but that land was too close to the general land that belongs to each and every Ngambela who takes over at the Kuta. So that is where there was a problem and that is why they were going to court because each one was accusing the other of encroaching into the others land. So the land that belongs to the Kuta for every Ngambela has specific boundaries and there are people who have been given the mandate to take care of that land and those are the people where the families who killed the Induna came from,” the source revealed.

This is after the Zambia police confirmed the arrest of 4 people in connection with the murder of Mwangelwa Akapelwa, the Induna Inete.

According to the police, on March 22, 2024, around 23:00 hours, Police managed to trace the suspected killer, identified as Liswaniso Wamunyima aged 47 of Limulunga District and a 65-year-old witch doctor known as Limpo Chinyemba where the alleged killer was found hiding in Mbuywana plots area in Mongu District.

The source further revealed that the reason the suspected killer went into hiding to the witch doctor was to seek supernatural powers to hide from police officers and for his crime to go unpunished.

“A witch doctor helps to make sure that mulandu ulionse usapezeke (no crime is found). So that witch doctor his job was to make sure that no Police officer will know where the killer was hiding and that his crime will go unpunished. So even now that they have found the killer, a witch doctor could have still worked to ensure that when the case goes to court, no law was going to arrest the killer or no case was going to go against the killer,” revealed the source.- Zambian Business Times

HIGHLIGHTS:

Zambia External Bondholder Steering Committee Reaches Agreement with Zambia on Debt Restructuring

Here are the highlights;

✅The Zambian Government has reached and concluded the debt restructuring with Eurobond holders over the country’s 3.5 billion United States Dollars it owes.

✅The Zambia External Bondholder Steering Committee announced that it had reached a conclusive 2024 agreement with the Government of Zambia on a restructuring of the country’s:

(i) US$750,000,000 5.375 per cent. Notes due 2022,

(ii) US$1,000,000,000 8.500 per cent. Notes due 2024 and

(iii) US$1,250,000,000 8.970 per cent. Amortising Notes due 2027 (collectively known as the “Eurobonds”).

✅This agreement follows the Government’s confirmation that the terms of the 2024 Agreement are compatible with Zambia’s Official Creditor Committee assessment of comparability of treatment and the IMF’s program parameters under the Second Review framework.

✅Since November 2023 when the OCC determined that the previous agreement-in-principle (AIP) reached with the Government did not meet the requirements of the comparability of treatment provisions set out in the memorandum of understanding, the Committee has continued to support the Government’s efforts to pursue a restructuring on terms close to those of the November 2023.

✅While the 2024 Agreement provides some further debt relief beyond that provided for in the November 2023 AIP, these additional concessions will allow for the-standing default on the Eurobonds to be cured, will support the restoration of Zambia’s macro-economic and debt sustainability in the context of the IMF-financed program, and were required to ensure the support of all key stakeholders including the IMF and the OCC in a timely manner.

✅Prompt implementation of a debt restructuring agreement with bondholders is not only in Zambia’s interests, but the wider creditor community as a whole.

✅The proposed restructuring terms set out in the 2024 Agreement are based on the same structure as the November 2023 AIP.

✅Two new Eurobonds will be issued which provide future debt relief commensurate with Zambia’s economic progress in the next few years.

✅While the 2024 Agreement requires both additional debt reduction and net present value relief compared to the restructuring terms agreed pursuant to the November 2023 AIP, it also includes enhanced repayment terms and higher coupons on Bond B, in the event that Zambia’s debt carrying capacity, as assessed by the IMF and World Bank’s Composite Indicator, moves to medium from weak or Zambia continues to meet or exceeds current IMF projections as measured by exports of goods, services and fiscal revenues measured in US Dollars.

✅The 2024 Agreement also includes agreement on certain non-financial terms, including a most favoured creditor clause that will ensure that certain other creditors do not receive a better recovery in the restructuring on net present value terms, a loss reinstatement clause if Zambia were to default during the term of the IMF program, and certain ongoing information covenants for Zambia.

✅The Committee appreciates the collaborative and transparent discussions with the Government that have allowed for this conclusive agreement to be reached.

✅The Committee encourages all holders of the Eurobonds to carefully consider the terms of the Government’s prospective offer in relation to the 2024 Agreement and to make their own independent appraisal of the merits and risks of participation.

✅Members of the Committee include the following asset managers (acting either directly or on behalf of funds or other accounts they manage): Amia Capital LLP; Amundi (UK) Limited; Farallon Capital Management, LLC; Greylock Capital Management, LLC; RBC BlueBay Asset Management.

✅The Creditor Committee is being advised by Newstate Partners and Weil Gotshal & Manges (London) LLP.

PRIVATE SCHOOL FEES- Fred M’membe

PRIVATE SCHOOL FEES

We note with serious concern that certain upmarket private schools quote their school fees in United States dollars on the pretext that they pay expatriate staff salaries in US dollars.

However, the bulk of their costs is in Zambian Kwacha such as water, electricity, fuel, general staff wages, and so on and so forth.

The issue of quoting salaries in dollars presupposes that parents are earning their income in dollars. This is true for expatriates but completely untrue for local Zambians whose children attend these schools and their salaries/incomes are in Kwacha.

We should not, as Zambians, allow schools to be operating in Zambia for expatriates only and excluding Zambians in a subtle way through dollarisation of school fees, and we sit and watch quietly.

As an example, if you pay $10,000 per year in school fees. When the exchange rate was K16 and you paid K160,000. Now the exchange rate is K27, it means you are now paying K270,000. What is more ironic is that these schools are increasing fees annually, and Zambians are being milked. It’s every parent’s wish to provide first class education to their children, so the issue of saying you enrolled voluntarily does not arise. Zambians should be protected from being marginalised in their own country.

What’s even annoying is that Zambian academic staff are paid in Kwacha, and their expatriate colleagues are paid in dollars for the same work. Does it mean expatriates are more important than Zambians? Go to South Africa, all salaries are in Rand whether expatriate or not. Why should only foreigners benefit in Zambia and Zambians marginalised? For equity purposes, Zambian staff should also be paid in dollars.

We urge the Ministry of Education to intervene in this matter and request all private schools to price in Kwacha and not dollars and to stop this abuse.

What’s even worrying more beyond school fees is why the Bank of Zambia is allowing dollarisation of our economy when the only legal tender in Zambia is Kwacha. With this volatile exchange rate, it is hurting Zambians badly. Even in the real estate business, rentals go up every month as the exchange rate slides.

It’s time the Bank of Zambia issued a statutory instrument to price all goods and services in Kwacha.

Court agrees to cease Trump’s civil fraud fine in exchange for $175 million deposit

0

New York’s court wants to wait before getting money from a past U.S official President Donald Trump must pay $454 million for cheating. He has to give $175 million in 10 days.

If he does that, it will stop the state from taking his things and asking for another chance in court.

The development occurred just before New York Attorney General Letitia James was going to start trying to collect the money she was owed.

Earlier this week, Trump’s lawyers asked a court to stop making him pay money. They said it would be very difficult to find someone willing to pay a large amount of money for him.

The court of appeals in the state made a decision about Trump’s attempt to change a judge’s ruling from February. At 16, he began to lie about how much money he had while he was growing his real estate business. This business made him really well-known and eventually helped him become the president.

Former President Donald Trump might learn on Monday how New York state plans to get the more than US$457 million he owes for his civil business fraud case, even though he is appealing the decision that caused the huge debt.

After Letitia James, the state Attorney General, won the case, she chose not to enforce the judgment while Trump asked for time to appeal to the court and delay the payment.

The period ends on Monday, but James might decide to give Trump more time. The Republican who is likely to be the party’s presidential nominee is trying to avoid having to pay a full amount of money as security while he appeals in court. But the courts have not agreed with him so far.

Last month, James, a Democrat, said to ABC News that if Trump doesn’t have the money to pay, she would take his things. She was ready to make sure he pays the money he owes.

She did not explain how she did it or say exactly what she was talking about. Her office has also said they don’t want to talk about it. At the same time, it has officially notified the court’s decision, which is the first step in possibly starting to get the money owed.

On Monday morning, Trump complained on social media about a civil judgment and the possibility that James might enforce it. He was also on his way to another court hearing for his hush money case.

The former president said that the Democrats were trying to take his money to hurt his chances of winning the 2024 election. He said they were making up a plan to do this.

“I planned to spend a lot of my hard-earned money on running for President. ” They don’t want me to do that – ELECTION INTERFERENCE. ” he wrote on his Truth Social website. He didn’t like the idea of being made to sell or lose his properties, which he called his “babies. ”

Taking away belongings is a usual choice in the law when someone doesn’t have money to pay a fine from a court case. In Trump’s situation, potential targets could be his fancy apartment in Trump Tower, his airplane, his office building on Wall Street, or his golf courses.

The attorney general can also investigate his bank and investment accounts. Trump said on social media that he has almost US$500 million in cash. He plans to use a lot of it for his run as president. He said that James and Judge Engoron, who is a Democrat, are trying to take away his money so he can’t use it for his campaign.

One option is for James’ office to use the law to have the police take away properties and then try to sell them. However, it is difficult in Trump’s situation, as stated by Stewart Sterk, a professor of real estate law at Cardozo School of Law.

“He said it takes time to find people who want to buy such expensive things. At a regular auction, it’s unlikely that people will bid the true value of the property. ”

Trump owes money because he was in a long trial last year. The state said he made up how much money he had to trick banks and insurers. The experts thought his penthouse was almost three times bigger than it really was.

Trump and the other people he was accused with said they didn’t do anything wrong. They said the statements about his money were actually too low, came with warnings, and were not believed by the banks and insurance companies that gave him money. He said that the mistake with the penthouse was made by his employees.

Engoron agreed with the lawyer in charge and told Trump he has to pay $355 million, plus more money that goes up every day. Some people who were also accused, like his sons and company vice presidents, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, had to pay much less money.

Under the law in New York, when someone files an appeal, it usually doesn’t stop the court from enforcing a decision. However, there will be a stop automatically if the person or entity pays a bond that includes the amount owed.

The lawyers of the former president said that he cannot do that. They said the people who give money to cover legal claims wanted more than the judgment amount and wouldn’t take property as security. This would mean putting aside more than $557 million in cash, stocks, and other easily-convertible assets. Trump’s company also needs some money to continue running the business, according to his lawyers.

Trump’s lawyers want to stop the collection of money from him without having to put up a bond. The lawyer in charge has disagreed.

Gunmen who broke into Moscow theatre tried to escape to Ukraine – Putin

0

People attending a concert in suburban Moscow were targeted by gunmen. The building was destroyed by fire and there were more than 130 people dead. Russian authorities have arrested four suspects. President Putin said that they were caught while trying to leave and go to Ukraine.

Kyiv said it wasn’t involved in the attack on the music venue in Krasnogorsk, and a group from Afghanistan’s Islamic State claimed they did it.

Putin did not talk about IS in his speech, and Kyiv said he and other Russian politicians are lying about Ukraine being involved in the attack to make people more excited about Russia’s war in Ukraine, which has been going on for three years.

US officials who gather information confirmed the IS affiliate’s claim that it was responsible for the attack, a US official told The Associated Press. American spies found out that the IS group was planning to attack Moscow. They told the Russian government about it a few weeks ago. The official was told about the issue but wasn’t allowed to talk about the secret information publicly. They spoke to the AP anonymously.

Putin said that 11 people were arrested for the attack. More than 100 people at the concert were hurt and the venue in Moscow was left destroyed. He said it was a terrible and violent attack by terrorists. The Russian authorities caught four suspected gunmen as they were trying to escape to Ukraine through a prepared route on the border.

Russian news showed videos of people being arrested and questioned. One person said he was paid by someone he didn’t know to take part in the attack.

The Russian news said the shooters were from Tajikistan, a country in Central Asia that used to be part of the Soviet Union. It is mostly Muslim and next to Afghanistan. Around 15 million people from Tajikistan have worked in Russia and some of them are now Russian citizens.

Tajikistan’s foreign ministry said it didn’t know about other Tajiks involved in the raid. They didn’t respond to a request for comment about the arrests on Saturday.

Many Russian people who strongly disagree with Tajik immigrants wanted the government to take strong action against them. But Putin said no, and he believes that no one will be able to create problems or divisions in our diverse society using force.

He said that Sunday will be a day of sadness and that more security rules were made in all of Russia.

The attack was the deadliest in Russia in a long time. It’s a big problem for the Russian leader and happened just a few days after he secured his position in power for another six years. This came after a harsh crackdown on people who disagreed with the government, which was the strictest since the time of the Soviet Union.

133 people died in the attack, making it the worst in Russia in a long time.

The raid was a big problem for the Russian leader and it happened soon after he got more power in the country for six more years. He had cracked down on people who disagreed with him before the vote.

Some people on Russian social media were wondering how the government, which has been cracking down on any opposition and controlling the media, did not stop the attack even though they knew about it. Be careful, be safe, take caution.

The attack happened two weeks after the United States. The US Embassy in Moscow warned Americans to stay away from busy places because extremists are planning to attack large gatherings like concerts. Many other embassies from Western countries also gave the same warning. Earlier this week, Putin criticized the warning as an attempt to scare Russians.

On Saturday, investigators searched through the burned remains of the hall to find more victims. Officials said the number of people who died may increase.

Putin said the attackers tried to escape to Ukraine. Russian lawmakers also blamed Ukraine right after the attack.

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, strongly disagreed with Moscow’s accusations. He said that Putin and his team are trying to blame Ukraine for their actions and are not taking care of their own people.

“They are setting fire to our cities and trying to blame Ukraine,” he said in a message on his app. “They hurt and sexually assault our people, and then they say it’s their fault. ” They brought a lot of their fighters here to Ukraine to fight us, and they don’t care what happens in their own country.

Pictures from Russian state media showed that there were still ambulances and fire trucks outside the destroyed Crocus City Hall. The building was able to hold more than 6,000 people and it hosted many important events, such as the 2013 Miss Universe beauty pageant with Donald Trump.

On Friday, many people went to a place to see a concert by the Russian rock band Picnic.

Videos on the internet showed people with guns shooting at close range at the place, and hurting innocent people. Russian news said that the attackers threw bombs that caused a fire in the building. The fire became big and destroyed the building’s roof.

Dave Primov, who was able to stay safe during the attack, told the AP that the gunmen were shooting at the people in the front rows without aiming. He said the hall was a mess because people at the concert started to panic, run, and bump into each other as they tried to get out. Some people fell and others walked over them.

After he and others crawled out of the hall and into nearby rooms, he heard small explosives going off and smelled something burning as the attackers set the building on fire.

IS has been trying to harm Russia for a long time, especially after Russia’s military attack in Syria. IS’s Afghanistan branch said it attacked a big group of “Christians” in Krasnogorsk, in a statement on their Aamaq news agency.

On Saturday, the group said on Aamaq that four men attacked using guns, a pistol, knives, and firebombs. The attackers shot at the crowd and used knives to kill people at the concert. They did this because they believe Islam is being fought against by other countries.

In October 2015, a bomb made by IS caused a Russian plane to crash in Sinai, and all 224 people on board died. Most of them were Russian tourists coming back from Egypt.

The group mostly works in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa. They have also said they did several attacks in Russia’s volatile Caucasus and other areas in recent years. It got soldiers from Russia and other places that used to be part of the Soviet Union.

The Afghanistan branch of the group is called ISIS-K or IS-K. It got its name from Khorasan Province, a place that was big in the past and covered parts of Afghanistan, Iran, and Central Asia.

The affiliate has lots of fighters who have done many attacks in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over in 2021. They are enemies with the Taliban.

ISIS-K did the suicide bombing at Kabul airport in August 2021. It killed 13 American troops and about 170 Afghans during the US withdrawal. They also admitted to causing a bomb attack in Kerman, Iran, in January. The attack killed 95 people at a memorial procession.

On March 7, the US Embassy warned about possible attacks, and Russia’s top security agency said they stopped an attack on a synagogue in Moscow and killed some members of a group linked to IS near the Russian capital. A few days ago, the Russian government said that six people believed to be members of the IS group were shot and killed in a fight in Ingushetia, a region in Russia.

Fill up your gas tank as you prepare for April’s total solar eclipse – Community leaders

0

Communities and people in the United State have been asked to shop for extra food, fill their gas tanks and get themselves other important materials as they prepare towards the April’s total solar eclipse. Get a paper with instructions on how to drive there. And you need to wait for a long time.

Tiny towns and countryside areas in the path of April’s total solar eclipse are preparing for big crowds of people who want to see the daytime sky turn into nighttime in North America.

People in the path of the total solar eclipse from Texas to Maine have brought in extra fuel and portable toilets. They are also telling everyone to be ready for the event. Some places have asked for extra help with police and other assistance by declaring a disaster, just like after severe storms. In Oklahoma, a state in the U.S, National Guard will provide assistance.

Many schools in Texas, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont are closing or moving to online classes because they are expecting lots of traffic and other problems.

What’s with all the warnings.

Don’t look further back than the most recent U.S event Tom Traub, a member of NASA’s eclipse ambassador program, said that he wants to learn more about the total solar eclipse in 2017.

That year, he went to Beatrice, Neb. , where the usual 12,000 people in the town increased to about 40,000 because of the eclipse.

“There were no more gas at gas stations,” said Traub, who is also on the board that oversees the Martz-Kohl Observatory near Frewsburg, N.Y. “And restaurants didn’t have any more food. ” Your bathrooms were full and not available.

This time, popular places to watch things want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen again.

“They are getting ready for the worst situation,” he said. “I hope that doesn’t happen. ”

Cell phones could possibly not be able to function.

In central Texas, emergency officials in Hays County suggest having a “solar eclipse survival bag” with things like a cell phone and charger.

The instructions say to put maps and a compass in the bag. It’s like going back to basics.

Don’t forget to bring a charged phone, but be prepared for bad reception in popular spots. In 2017, too many drivers using their cellphones caused problems for the towers.

“Make sure to write down important phone numbers as a precaution,” recommended the Lyndon B Johnson National Historical Park, located about 50 miles east of Austin.

Make sure to buy plenty of gas and groceries.

Some Texas counties advise not to wait till the end to buy groceries. They have declared a disaster to get extra help with the crowds.

Kerr County is in Texas and is about 65 miles northwest of San Antonio. The population of 53,000 is expected to double or triple soon.

“Make sure to fill up your vehicles with gas, have enough food, fill your prescriptions, and stock up on supplies for any pets you have,” said Rob Kelly, the county’s top official who approved the disaster declaration, in a post online.

In Ohio, the governor signed a rule to make sure the state is ready for emergencies. Emergency officials want people to fill up their gas tanks or charge their electric cars before they go out.

Traub says that people should prepare for the eclipse like they would for a snowstorm: “Get extra supplies, be ready, and get ready to stay inside. ”

Dan Serafin, the owner of Serafin’s Food Market in Erie, Pa. , is getting more milk, eggs, water, and batteries to get ready. “He said that it’s crazy. ”

Getting ready in the sky and on the ocean.

Smaller local airports are also preparing. In Cape Girardeau, Missouri, they are bringing in more fuel, said airport manager Katrina Amos.

The airport was surprised in 2017 when the city of about 40,000 people along the Mississippi River was also in the path of totality.

Between 40 and 50 more planes landed that day. Amos said, “We were surprised by this. ”

This year, people have offered to help park the extra planes that are coming. Amos said there will be hamburgers and hot dogs.

The Coast Guard will have boats patrolling in Lake Erie offshore. Some boaters plan to watch the boats from the water.

Prepare for traffic problems.

Drsaid that all the fire departments in the eclipse’s path will be fully staffed and ready to respond. Brad Raetzke is a doctor who works in the emergency room in Columbus, Ohio. He also oversees the medical care for the fire departments in the area.

He is worried that people will hurt their eyes if they look at the sun without proper glasses. Raetzke said there will likely be more car accidents and injuries because of all the extra traffic.

In 2017, he went to Nashville, Tennessee with his family to see the eclipse. The journey back home took 15 hours instead of the usual six. “He said he understands how planning is important. ”

In Erie, the hotels are almost full, so people who live there are being told to use different roads than the ones that visitors use. Signs 150 miles away from the city are telling people about possible traffic jams.

“The traffic will be really bad once totality ends,” said Chris Temple, the VisitErie spokesperson. He has been planning for a year for the huge number of visitors that could double the size of the city of 94,000.

Even though it can be difficult, the city’s tourism slogan to prepare for the eclipse is “SHINE” and it includes a reminder.

“Have fun right now,” Temple said.

Poland seeks answer from Russia after missile crosses its airspace

0

Poland asked Russia why one of its missiles went into Polish airspace during an attack on Ukraine. This made Poland send out F-16 fighter jets.

Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles for the third time in four days, and the second time they aimed at the capital city Kyiv.

Serhiy Popko, who is in charge of Kyiv’s military, said that Russia used missiles launched from bombers. The capital city had a warning for more than two hours because rockets came into Kyiv in groups from the north.

He said the attacks came from the Engels district in the Saratov region of Russia.

Preliminary information shows that no one was hurt or injured and there was no damage in the capital city, he said.

Poland asked Russia why one of its missiles ended up in Polish airspace during an attack on Ukraine. This made Poland send F-16 fighter jets into the sky.

Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles for the third time in four days, and the second time they targeted the capital city of Kyiv.

Serhiy Popko, the person in charge of Kyiv’s military administration, said that Russia used cruise missiles that were launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers. There was a warning in the city for over two hours as rockets came into Kyiv from the north in groups.

He said the attacks came from the Engels district in the Saratov region of Russia.

Preliminary data shows that no one was hurt and nothing was damaged in the capital, he said.

“We need to accept that the war is happening close to us and we are involved in the conflict between the West and Russia,” said Artur Bartkiewicz in the Rzeczpospolita newspaper on Sunday.

In 2022, two people from Poland died in an explosion from a missile. Western leaders said the deaths happened because a Ukrainian missile missed its target, but they also blamed Russia for starting the war and causing the need for Ukraine to defend itself with missiles.

Saturday night, in Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula, one person was killed and four others were hurt in a missile attack by Ukraine on the city controlled by Russia. Mikhail Razvozhaev shared on his Telegram page.

Pope Francis forgoes Palm Sunday homily that put his health to test

0

Pope Francis chose not to give a sermon at the Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square at the last minute. Peter’s Square, as the start of a busy Holy Week, will have a speech that is not tiring. However,it will test his declining health.

Francis has trouble with his knees and breathing, so he didn’t join the other cardinals in the procession around the obelisk at the beginning of the Mass. Instead, the 87-year-old pope blessed the palm leaves and olive branches carried by the faithful from the altar.

Francis was supposed to give a speech during the middle of the service, and a written copy had been given to reporters. However, when a helper gave Francis his glasses to start reading, the pope made it clear that he would not give the speech, and the crowd had to wait in silence.

Vatican officials didn’t say why right away. The Vatican press office later said instead of a sermon, there was a quiet time for prayer.

Francis said prayers during the whole service and asked for peace at the end of the Mass. He said he was thinking about the families of those killed in a terrible attack at a concert hall near Moscow. He also asked for prayers for the people of Ukraine and Gaza.

Vatican officials guessed about 60,000 people came to the Mass, which took place on a sunny, breezy day in the spring. Francis said hello to them from the car for a few minutes, driving around the square after the service.

Palm Sunday starts a busy week for Francis before Easter Sunday, when Christians remember that Jesus rose from the dead. On Thursday, Francis is supposed to go to a women’s prison in Rome to wash people’s feet as part of a tradition. On Friday, he will lead the torch lit Way of the Cross procession at Rome’s Colosseum, acting out the crucifixion of Christ.

The next day is Easter Vigil. Francis leads a solemn nighttime service in the basilica, and then has Easter Sunday Mass at St. [name]Peter stands in a square and gives a blessing from a balcony at noon.

The Holy Week is a busy time for popes, even when everything is going well. But this year, Francis has been dealing with illness all winter, which the Vatican has described as flu, bronchitis, or a cold. For the past few weeks, he has sometimes asked someone to read his speeches and lessons for him so he doesn’t have to do it himself.

On Sunday, no one else was asked to speak, and the sermon was not given. Vatican officials said the text was to be seen as if it never existed. Normally, the pope doesn’t give a speech at Easter, but he usually gives thoughts on Palm Sunday.

Even when he is not feeling unwell, Francis usually talks in a quiet voice and gets tired quickly. When he was young, he had surgery to remove part of one lung because of a bad lung infection.

Last year, he was very sick with bronchitis and had to go to the hospital for three days. But then he got better and was able to make it through Holy Week. He went to the hospital two times while he was pope to have surgery on his stomach. In 2021, he stayed in the hospital for 10 days to have part of his large intestine removed.

After the Mass, Francis prayed for peace for those suffering from war and asked for God to comfort the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Moscow.

Francis said he hopes the people who plan and do these terrible things will change their hearts, because God told us not to kill.

Francis asked people to remember Ukraine’s suffering without mentioning Moscow. He said that a lot of people in Ukraine don’t have electricity because their buildings and power lines were attacked. This is causing a lot of problems and could lead to an even bigger crisis.

“He asked to remember the people who died in Ukraine. “Let’s also think about Gaza, which is going through a lot of suffering, and many other places where there is war.

RUSSIAN COURT CHARGES FOUR MEN WITH ACTS OF TERRORISM

RUSSIAN COURT CHARGES FOUR MEN WITH ACTS OF TERRORISM

The Islamic State group, or IS, said it carried out Friday’s outrage at Crocus City Hall, and posted video.

Russian officials have claimed, without evidence, Ukrainian involvement. Kyiv says the claim is “absurd”.

The four were named as Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Saidakrami Murodali Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni and Muhammadsobir Fayzov.

Video showed three of them being marched by masked police into Basmanny district court in the Russian capital. All appeared injured.

Mirzoyev and Rachabalizoda’s eyes were blackened and the latter’s ear was heavily bandaged – reportedly from it being partially severed during his arrest.

Mirzoyev also appeared to have a torn plastic bag wrapped around his neck

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday rejected the claims, and his military intelligence directorate said it was “absurd” to suggest the men were trying to cross a heavily mined border, teeming with hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers, to reach safety.

Seven other people have been arrested in Russia suspected of aiding the attack.

The US warned Moscow earlier this month of a possible large attack in Russia, then issued a public advisory to citizens in the country.

The alert was roundly dismissed by the Kremlin as propaganda and an attempt to meddle in its presidential election.

Washington said after the attack that it had no reason to doubt the IS claim.

It would not be the first time IS and its allies have attacked Russia or its interests abroad.

The group claimed the bombing of a Russian plane over Egypt in 2015 with 224 people on board, most of them Russian citizens. It also claimed a 2017 bomb attack on the St Petersburg metro, which killed 15 people.

Security analysts say the group considers Russia a primary target for a number of reasons, including the country’s role in destroying IS’s powerbase in Syria while securing President Bashar al-Assad’s rule, Moscow’s two brutal wars in Muslim-majority Chechnya in 1994-2009 and the Soviet-era invasion of Afghanistan.

IS-K chiefly operates in Afghanistan and parts of Central Asia and its name is based on an old term for the region.

It is among the most able and active of the IS offshoots, and was responsible for deadly suicide attacks at Kabul airport during the chaotic American withdrawal of August and September 2021.

The police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nigeria, have arrested a pregnant woman who faked her own kidnap and made her husband pay N2 million ransom.

According to the police, the pregnant woman shared the ransom payment with her boyfriend, with whom they planned the act together.

The husband had earlier reported at a police station that his wife had gone for anti-natal at the hospital and did not return.

Findings by the police showed that the wife shared the money with her boyfriend. She was said to have taken N1.2 million of the ransom while the boyfriend got a share of N800,000.

The police command in the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja, arrested the woman, Rosemary Ubah, for allegedly faking her kidnap.

The police said Chiedozie Ubah, Rosemary’s husband, reported that his pregnant wife left home for the hospital for a scan and did not return home.

Ubah said he received a phone call demanding N2 million as ransom because his wife has been abducted.

He was asked to send the money to his wife’s account.

The husband, identified as Chiedozie Ubah, who lives in Saburi II, Dei-dei in Abuja, had reported the incident at Gwagwa police division that his wife, identified as Rosemary Ubah, left the house for anti-natal at the hospital.

The husband told police that he transferred the N2 million as requested and his wife was released.

In a statement on Saturday, the FCT police command said after the woman was released, the husband brought her for interrogation.

“During interrogation, the wife freely confessed to have conspired with one man named Walter Ezeala ‘m’ living in the same street with them at Saburi to extort money from her husband,” the statement reads.

Mr Tembo, of Palm Valley Avenue, Ngwerere, Lusaka, has accused the cabinet minister of uttering hate speech against the people of Luapula.

It is alleged that on or about October 12, 2023, in an audio that was circulated by means of a computer system, Mr Syakalima allegedly uttered and published on various media platforms, hate speech language towards the people of Luapula Province.

The minister is accused of saying that the people of Luapula “have a poverty of the mind”.

Mr Tembo alleges that the said statement expresses hostility and segregation against the people of Luapula Province of Zambia.

The complaint has been filed before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court.

In an affidavit in support of complaint, Mr Tembo that on or about October 12 last year, the Minister of Education circulated an audio by means of a computer system during a press briefing.

“That at the said press briefing, the accused herein, Douglas Syakalima uttered hate speech against towards the people of Luapula Province of Zambia by referring to them that they “have a poverty of the mind”.

Mr Tembo has also provided a clip in a flash disc containing an audio recording of the alleged statement.

For Mr Tembo to privately prosecute Mr Syakalima, the complainant needs to seek consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The politician recently filed a complaint against UPND secretary general Batuke Imenda.

THESE MINING DEALS ARE A BETRAYAL
…they will last only as long as the UPND government lasts, warns Ng’uni

By Margaret Malenga

FORMER deputy finance minister Newton Ng’uni says IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva has turned Zambia into a bad case study of “how not to negotiate deals with creditors”.

He also says “all these deals being made in the mining sector are a betrayal of our national interest and they are simply setting up foundations for their future reversal. Even those investors agreeing to enter into such deals must know that the future of such investment is impaired. They will last only as long as the UPND government lasts”.

Ng’uni highlighted Georgieva’s advice to Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo to keep national interests in mind when negotiating deals with creditors and avoid being arm-twisted like what was done to Zambia.

“Is this not betrayal? The IMF has been touting Zambia as a good example of frugal managers of national debt and debt restructuring icons. But the IMF MD statement in Ghana means only three things; Zambian negotiators did not take into account national interest when dealing with bondholders hence the bad results of those negotiations, Zambia is incapable of resisting arm-twisting by international creditors and Zambia has reached bad agreement with bondholders, and she blames the country for such bad deals (the type that Ghana must avoid at all costs),” Ng’uni wrote in a Facebook post. “But how can this be when we have hired best international transaction advisors to lead our negotiations with creditors, including private bondholders and other commercial lenders? So our money has been wasted?”

He called on Zambian leaders to learn to listen to the nationals on matters of national importance.

“You lose nothing and you have everything to gain. The IMF MD knew all along that our debt-restructuring efforts lacked the most important ingredient, defence of our national interest. We have just been obsessed with reaching agreement without regard to consequences, simply to show that we are better than those who contracted the debt in the first place!” he said.

Ng’un called for a reversal of the current trends within the mining industry before it reaches a critical point.

“Everything being done in that sector is devoid of defence of national interest. The Mopani, KCM and Kansanshi Mine deals are all devoid of care for the future of this nation, care for the needs of our future generations. We don’t need the IMF and the World Bank to use us again as a case study of bad investment negotiators,” he said. “All these deals being made in the mining sector are a betrayal of our national interest and they are simply setting up foundations for their future reversal. Even those investors agreeing to enter into such deals must know that the future of such investment is impaired. They will last only as long as the UPND government lasts.”

Church Should Not Be Confrontational Towards Government- EFZ Chairperson Bishop Paul Mususu

The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has issued advice to religious leaders, urging them to refrain from advocating for regime change, citing concerns over its divisive impact on society.

Bishop Paul Mususu, Chairperson of EFZ, emphasized that it is not within the purview of the church to advocate for a change of regime, as the decision lies with the Zambian people themselves. He stressed the importance of unity and cautioned against actions that could sow discord among citizens.

Speaking at the induction ceremony of Eddy Jibusha as Deputy Bishop of the Evangelical Church, Bishop Mususu underscored the pivotal role of the church in providing credible checks and balances to the government. He emphasized that rather than advocating for regime change, the church should focus on offering constructive solutions and guidance to the government.

Bishop Mususu reiterated that the responsibility of choosing leaders rests solely with the electorate and not with religious institutions. He urged religious leaders to uphold the principles of impartiality and to refrain from engaging in partisan politics that could undermine the unity of the nation.
