Miles Sampa Was Illegally Elected, But In Politics, There’s Nothing Illegal If Power Is On Your Side, I Blame Balungu For Messing Up Sata’s Party- Chilufya Tayali

EEP President Chilufya Tayali

MILES SAMPA WAS ILLEGALLY ELECTED, BUT IN POLITICS, THERE’S NOTHING ILLEGAL IF POWER IS ON YOUR SIDE, I BLAME BALUNGU FOR MESSING UP SATA’S PARTY – SATA MUST BE TURNING IN HIS GRAVE.

I am upset with BaLungu for being a man without a character, no spine to fight for the party that was given to him on a silver platter to become President.

BaLungu never fought for anything to become President, it was other people that fought for him and handed it over to him. At least Miles organized that General Conference, but others organized the conference that elected BaLungu with the show of hands.

During his Presidency, others people used the Presidential powers for their benefits. Even hooligans intimidated dignified persons, in the name of the Presidency while BaLungu was listening to fake Pastors, who formed Christiansfor Lungu.

They cheated BaLungu that God will multiply votes like Jesus did with the fish and bread to feed the 5000. They are doing the same this time around, cheating him (ECL), that God will grab power from HH and hand it over to him again.

Some of us sounded warnings that, the boat is sinking and they unleashed police officers on us, treating us like common criminals until Hakainde Hichilema came and wiped them with a landslide victory of over a million votes.

Today, things are not going right in the Country and some people are expecting BaLungu to come liberate them, but he is locked in the house only coming out at dawn to catch fresh air on Saturdays and looking for a place we’re he can pose as a Christian without Christ as his personal saviour.

Today Miles Sampa has matched on PF, with leaders without a backbone, or soldiers without ammunition, to fight back.

What will Given Lubinda do, when he is being sort by the police for this or that, just to cripple him. If Given is not careful, he will end up serving a sentence for Edgar Lungu. Given has no immunity so it is easy to clamp him (BaGiven becareful).

Anyway, this fight is not an easy one, because PF is not in power, UPND is in power and they are with Miles, so becareful when you call some of us names.

PF Presidential Aspirant Chitalu Chilufya Reject A Scheme By Luapula Mps To Slander Daglas Siakalima Minister Of Education On “Poverty Of The Mind” Statement

A MUST READ

PF PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT CHITALU CHILUFYA REJECT A SCHEME BY LUAPULA MPS TO SLANDER DAGLAS SIAKALIMA MINISTER OF EDUCATION ON “POVERTY OF THE MIND” STATEMENT

By: Prof. Edgar Ng’oma Philosopher/Political Analyst.

In a scheme to embarrass Hon. Daglas Siakalima MP, who is also Minister of Education in Zambia, Members of Parliament from Luapula province have petitioned the speaker of the national assembly to reprimand the Minister of Education over a statement he made in Mwense about three months ago when he toured the province to launch a new Education program sponsored by one foreign cooperating partner to Government of tge Republic of Zambia.

It’s alleged in the petition addressed to the speaker of national assembly, Her honor Nelly Mutti, that while doing an address in Mwense which address was broadcasted on local radio stations in Luapula province, that Hon. Siakalima uttered demeaning and insulting words to the people of Luapula in which words he refered to the people of Luapula of suffering from the “poverty of the mind”. As though that was not enough in that same petition the Luapula MPS also allege that the Minister of Education further described Luapula as being the poorest province out of all the 10 provinces in Zambia.

However, as a political analyst, after coming across this petition on social media, signed by MPs who are the pettitioners and out of all the 15 MPS from Luapula province only 1 Hon. Chitalu Chilufya did not sign the petition. His name was on the petition but the space where he was supposed to sign, where every member’s signature was, for him it was blank, only 14 out of 15 signed the petition.meaning he declined.

In my investigation I really wanted to listen to the radio address on what and how the Minister of Education uttered the demeaning and insulting language using the words poverty of the mind and physical poverty. In what context they were used and what was he really trying to communicate??

I found the audio, and after playing it , I then understood why Hon. Chitalu chilufya Mansa central member of Parliament refused to be part of members of Parliament from Luapula who he strangely did not really understand what they wanted to achieve, himself understanding in what context the Minister issued the perceived demeaning and insulting words which according to them were un Parliamentary language.

This is what Minister Daglas Siakalima said in an address at Mwense and other areas where he addressed in his tour of Luapula province. First what must be understood is that upon arrival in Luapula province the Minister got a statistical brief from the provincial Education officer on the numbers of new learners who started school after free education was introduced in the province by the new dawn government after 12th August 2021.
After checking the numbers, the Minister then discovered that only 95,000 (ninty five thousand) students had enrolled in the province, when the average numbers of new learners for all the other provinces was 200, 000(two hundred thousand) per province. The Minister was very shocked to see low numbers. The total national number of new learners is at 2million, with an average of 200,000 per province.

He then contemplated referencing national wealth distribution, national poverty levél chart comparative analysis, here again, he realised that Luapula was rated as the poorest out of 10 provinces. He then understood why the poverty equation turned out like that. With these two facts Hon. Siakalima went to address the crowd at Mwense and other places where in his address he told the crowd that he was not happy with the numbers of learners who have gone back to school. In that address, he said it was unacceptable that after giving the province chance to end illiteracy in order to address physical poverty of the province (lack of money) the province is also suffering from poverty of the mind , when illiteracy levels are high it will automatically lead to poverty of the mind. The Minister being so passionate about Education him without waste of time, immediately adopted and declared Luapula as his own province where he will ensure that he collaborates with relevant local authorities to urge communities to take Education as a priority knowing very well that the physical poverty can only be solved like a simutaneous equation, where resolving the illiteracy levels through Education would automatically be resolving poverty of the mind, and when poverty mind dies the physical poverty would also simutaneously die. Problem of both physical poverty and mental poverty would be solved Luapula would prosper especially with the abundant mineral and other natural resource found there.

English being a foreign language and in the manner it was put, certain people misunderstood what the Minister meant, but obviously not Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, the reason he declined to sign the petition.

For the benefit of the 14 MPs and other readers who might not have understood the word “poverty of the mind”. This is equal to high illiteracy levels. Complete lack of knowledge on basic life survival skills.

As we speak now, Minister of Education Siakalima has adopted Luapula as his own province to transform and see that more and more new learners enrol in various government schools and take advantage of free education to reach a national average of atleast 200, 000 learners as opposed to 95000 learners currently recorded in the province.

Let me hope, this article has helped clarify the misunderstanding which was based on words used “poverty of the mind” whose meaning has now been clarified.
Let’s go back to Parliament and continue with the business of the house and leave behind us this which look inconsequential.

I submit.

Dispelling Lies About HH’s Generosity

Dispelling Lies About HH’s Generosity

Hakainde Hichilema (HH), the current President of Zambia, has been falsely accused of being a stingy person. This is a lie that has been spread by his political opponents in an attempt to tarnish his reputation. However, the truth is that HH is a very generous person who has helped many people throughout his life except he doesit in a manner that does not seek attention.

One of the biggest ways that HH has helped others is through his financial support. He has given money from his pocket to many people in need, both inside and outside of his political party.

Among the first things he did after forming government, was to give Blackmountain a copper slug dumpsite to the Youth and Women. This was a multi-million dollar project that he hoped would empower people in a legal manner. This black mountain has been the source of Livelihood for a group of Young People on the copperbelt referred to as ” the Jerabos ” who are known to lead luxurious lives. He hoped many Young suffering Copperbelt Youths would get a boost, but alas greed set in and it only benefitted a few who have since not told the truth.

Furthermore, our President will ever be rigid in the area of getting public resources to make populist stunts , he constantly says ” no Tantameni ” to mean he will not flush public resources. This has been misconstrued to mean he is stingy ” Akaso”.

HH has also helped many people through his charitable work. He has for many years, provided support to a variety of causes, including education, healthcare, and agriculture. The Man has helped thousands of people in Zambia and beyond.

It is important to note that HH’s generosity is not limited to his public giving. He has also helped many people in private, without seeking any recognition or publicity. For example, many UPND members have received financial help from HH without knowing the source. This shows that HH is truly a generous person who is committed to helping others without using them as reference points.

The accusation that HH is a stingy person is simply not true. He is a generous person who has helped many people throughout his life. His political opponents have simply tried to tarnish his reputation by spreading this lie. However, the truth is that HH is a kind and compassionate person who is always willing to help those in need but will only do it through legal and genuine means opposed to the circus we have seen in the past.

In addition to the examples mentioned above, here are some other things that HH has done to help others:

He has provided scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

He has funded the construction of schools and clinics in rural areas.

He has donated to hospitals and orphanages.

He has helped to create jobs and opportunities for people in rural areas.

HH is a true giver who has helped many people in need.

Let us just learn to adjust to his style of Leadership and understand he won’t steal to give handouts to party members.

UPND SPONSORING CONFUSION IN PF-Former Mwansabombwe DC

UPND SPONSORING CONFUSION IN PF

…. in stead of addressing the real issues affecting the Zambians, they are busy sponsoring confusion in the former ruling party, says former Mwansabombwe DC

Mwansabombwe District… Wednesday October 25, 2023 (SMART EAGLES)

It is very clear that the confusion that is being championed by suspended Matero Member of Parliament Hon Miles Sampa is sponsored by the UPND, charges former Mwansabombwe District Commissioner Jacob Chilufya.

Mr Chilufya has also warned Hon Sampa that if he is not careful, this could be the end of his political career.

Mr Chilufya recalled that this is not the first time Hon Sampa is bringing such confusion in the party saying he once did it with former Vice president Dr. Guy Scott.

He said if Hon Sampa was a wise politician, he would have leant political lessons instead of agreeing to be used in fueling confusion in the former ruling party.

“If you recall when former President Michael Sata died, it was the same Miles Sampa and Guy Scott that brought consufion in the party. After wards, he came back to his senses and apologized to President Edgar Lungu and that’s how he came back. This time around, we won’t accept his come back because he is a traitor,” said Mr Chilufya.

“And the UPND should not think the people of Zambia are dull to understand what is going on. This confusion is sponsored by them. We have serious issues in the country such as high prices of mealie, farmers do not have fertilizer, high electricity tariffs etc, these are the things the UPND should be working on not sponsoring confusion in the PF.”

He wondered why Hon Sampa was given state security to hold his illegal general conference when other political parties are denied permits by the same police.

“How many times has the police denied other political groupings permits to hold public gatherings? So Miles is so special that he was accorded that special state security to allow him hold the illegal general conference? We are watching what the UPND are doing and they will regret it,” he added.

“And for your own information, the delegates who are supposed to vote during the general conference none of them had attended that illegal meeting. Did you see any senior party member attending that meeting? Miles was given candidates by the UPND so that meeting cannot be a genuine general conference for the PF.”

He said the PF remains strong as all the structures are intact and waiting for 2026 to bounce back to power.

Tanzania Gives Zambia 20 Hectares of Land at Mtwara Port as Independence Day Gift

0

In a gesture of friendship and cooperation, Tanzanian President Samia Hassan announced a generous gift to Zambia during the celebration of Zambia’s 59th Independence Day. President Hassan, who is on a three-day state visit to Zambia, revealed that Tanzania would allocate 20 hectares of land at the Port of Mtwara to Zambia. This land grant is intended for the storage of goods and trade facilitation, aiming to strengthen economic ties between the two neighboring nations.

The Tanzanian Head of State made this significant announcement while gracing Zambia’s Independence Day anniversary at State House in Lusaka, emphasizing that this allocation of land at the modernizing Mtwara Dry Port would greatly enhance the business relationship between Zambia and Tanzania. President Hassan also extended the offer of longer storage duration for Zambia, a move intended to alleviate the congestion caused by the substantial volumes of consignments passing through the region.

In her address, President Hassan challenged Zambian businesses to seize this opportunity and expand their operations, thereby fostering trade not only with Tanzania but also with other nations in the region.

Hassan underscored the alignment of Zambia’s independence theme, “Accelerating National Development through equitable distribution of resources,” with Tanzania’s commitment to promoting economic transformation and development cooperation. She expressed her government’s dedication to working closely with Zambia to realize the shared vision of improving the well-being of both nations’ citizens.

The Tanzanian President reaffirmed her country’s commitment to collaborating with Zambia on development and infrastructure projects that would further connect the two nations. She also pledged to support the construction of a new natural gas pipeline to meet Zambia’s growing energy needs, which are essential for the Zambian economy’s continued growth.

President Hassan commended President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration for the significant economic progress achieved in recent times and the continued social integration and unity within Zambia. She urged Zambians to use Independence Day commemorations as an opportunity to remember the sacrifices of liberation heroes and work towards shaping the nation’s development trajectory.

In response, President Hichilema expressed gratitude to President Hassan for gracing Zambia’s 59th Independence Day celebrations. He emphasized Zambia’s eagerness to deepen its relationship with Tanzania, particularly in the development of joint infrastructure ventures that would benefit the citizens of both countries.

Hichilema stressed the importance of African countries, such as Zambia and Tanzania, expediting economic and social transformation to ensure that ordinary citizens can enjoy the fruits of their countries’ liberation. He called for the utilization of natural resources to transform the socio-economic landscape and guarantee the well-being of the people.

President Hichilema highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the country’s economic fortunes and its investment in free education to provide young Zambians with opportunities for participating in the nation’s development.

He also pledged that Zambia would continue to make the Tazara corridor a focal point for trade, investment, and the movement of people to foster regional peace and development. Hichilema affirmed that other corridors, such as Nacala, Beira, Lobito, and the South-to-South corridor, would also play a vital role in facilitating trade and investment in the region.

Additionally, he expressed his commitment to working with President Hassan, who serves as Deputy Chair of the SADC Troika Committee, to ensure peace, security, and stability in the region.

The Independence Day celebrations were attended by numerous dignitaries, including Vice President Mutale Nalumango, Defense and Service Chiefs, Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, former Vice Presidents Nevers Mumba and Enoch Kavindele, Cabinet Ministers, Traditional Leaders, Diplomats, senior government officials, and invited citizens.

The festivities were marked by a jubilant atmosphere, with entertainment provided by the Defence Force Choir, UPND Choir, Amayenge Band, and other performances, as well as moments of humor. President Hassan is scheduled to address the National Assembly of Zambia on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, concluding her state visit to Zambia on a positive note of strengthened bilateral relations.

Impeachment bid signals tougher times for Angola president

0

Angolan President João Lourenço this week survived an impeachment bid, giving him a freed mind to travel on his trip to Nairobi, Kenya on a state visit, where he was the chief guest at Kenya’s Mashujaa (Heroes) Day celebrations.

But that failed motion was more of a warning signal of his troubles in this term than a victory for his party.

At the impeachment motion in Luanda on Saturday, the ruling party, Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) trounced the opposition led by the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (Unita).

The impeachment was Unita’s initiative and some 90 MPs from the opposition had signed on it. In the end, the motion was rejected with 123 votes from the MPLA MPs, two from the Humanist Party of Angola, and one abstention from the Social Renovation Party.

“The Unita Parliamentary Group clarifies that, under the terms of the Constitution and the Law, the voting carried out by the National Assembly is invalid,” Unita said in a statement after the vote.

“The Unita Parliamentary Group informs the public that the process of removing the President of the Republic from office will continue and reiterates that the defence of democracy and legality will continue to be its main motto,” it added.

Unita’s parliamentary group (PG) head Liberty Chiaka also accused the ruling MPLA of threatening the opposition MPs to vote against the process. Unita needed at least 111 MPs to support the motion to go ahead with the impeachment process.

“… They (MPLA) said they will fingerprint the votes and find out which of the MPs voted against them,” Mr Chiaka said.

MPLA responded by accusing Unita of starting a process without legal basis. Jú Martions, an MPLA legislator said his party MPs “of course could not go along with this manouevre, with total disrespect for the rules of procedure of the national assembly, parliamentary ethics, and even the parliamentary table,” he said.

“The country has been kept almost in suspense on this issue for more than three months, and Unita PG has used every possible trick to intensify the process among the civil society,” he added.

One strength of MPLA is its majority in parliament. But that has not shielded Lourenço from criticism outside of the House.

Lourenço, 69, became president in September 2017 after taking over from José Eduardo dos Santos’ 38-year rule. Last year, he was sworn in for a second and last five-year term albeit after a disputed election.

During his first term in office, he was praised by supporters for fighting corruption, including a purge in the family of the former President dos Santos. His critics, on the other hand, pointed out he had used collective punishment, including sacking several security chiefs close to his predecessor.

He removed his predecessor’s daughter Isabel dos Santos as head of the country’s state oil company Sonangol. The former president’s son, José Filomeno dos Santos was sentenced to five years in jail for fraud and corruption in 2020.

At the inauguration speech last year, at the historic Praca da Republica square in the capital Luanda, Lourenço pledged reforms to encourage the private sector, diversify the economy from oil dependency, and fight youth unemployment.

But he got increased frequency of street protests against the rising cost of living. Taxi drivers protested against a recent fuel-price increase in several provinces; women street traders protested in Luanda and political activists protested in several provinces too, each group citing hiked prices of basic goods.

“Things are getting worse every day in Angola. Prices are only going up. We’ve never been worse off than now,” José Tchimuko, 45, a street trader in Luanda told The EastAfrican, adding “things are even worse down there” in reference to his homeland in Huambo Province.

In May, Human Rights Watch (HRW), said the human rights situation in Cabinda province (an Angolan enclave in the DR Congo), as an example, has remained poor since President Lourenço took office in 2017, with many activists being arrested for exercising their fundamental rights.

In August, Ms Zenaida Machado HRW senior Africa Researcher said that “the Angolan police appear to be targeting those who speak out against government policies.”

The dos Santos family has used the criticism to return to local politics, indirectly. Comparing her father to the current president, Tchizé dos Santos said earlier this month that no one in Angola was arrested for annoying the late head of state, who, according to her did not care about social media.

Actually, some journalists fled the country during dos Santos’s time, and the country was mostly dominated by MPLA.

Speaking to Lusa, the Portuguese news agency, economist and political commentator Carlos Rosado de Carvalho said the country’s economy has tanked on a weak currency.

“The inflation is out of control, the kwanza (local currency) is completely out of control, with foreign exchange crisis.

“In the economic terms, we have gone from heaven to hell, because in the [2022] elections, everything was fine, the country was growing, we were going to accelerate growth, the Kwanza was stable, inflation was under control, the public accounts were balanced and we realised that one year after the elections that there was none of that,” he added reviewing a year after elections.

The Freedom House, a lobby on freedom of the press, says that Angola government along with those of 69 other countries has long employed party loyalists or contracted agents to covertly manipulate information online.

In a report titled Freedom on the Net 2023: The Repressive Power of Artificial Intelligence released earlier this month, it added that generative Artificial Intelligence technology is slowly beginning to enhance such distortion campaigns. Angola usually ranked 125 out of 180 countries surveyed by the Reporters without Borders this year.

Two days after the motion was defeated, Lourenço spent 2 hours and 17 minutes in a national address to parliament and said the country is still experiencing the negative effects of the pandemic and that the decline in families’ purchasing power is a global issue.

“The reducing the tax burden, namely reducing VAT on some products will continue with the process of withdrawing fuel subsidies,” he said adding economic diversification will be also taken into account.

“We are transforming our country’s economic structure by no longer producing and exporting only oil. Oil revenues should be used less for the consumption of goods and services and more for spending on diversifying and promoting the non-oil economy,” Lourenço said during his speech.

Lourenço also mentioned that the fight against corruption and the process of recovering state assets remained at the top of the state’s agenda.

“The country’s political and military situation is stable, and there are no relevant threats that could jeopardise peace, territorial integrity, sovereignty, stability, public order, or the normal functioning of constitutional bodies,” he added.

The World Bank says Angola’s 33 million people are mired in poverty and says economic diversification remains elusive in the country while oil production is declining and global decarbonisation looms in the medium term.

“Angola needs to urgently invest in removing barriers to private sector investment to achieve economic diversification to support growth, job creation, and poverty reduction,” it added.

Pilot accused of attempting jet crash alleges breakdown

0

Per court documents, a pilot who was off-duty was accused of attempting to crash an Alaska Airlines jet. He claims that he believed he was experiencing a nervous breakdown.

Joseph David Emerson also informed the police that he had consumed psychedelic mushrooms and was feeling very sad.

Mr Emerson said he didn’t do 83 counts of trying to kill people in an Oregon court on Tuesday.

He was sitting in the front of the plane with the captain when the supposed incident happened on Sunday.

According to the documents, Mr. Emerson said he was not feeling well and then reached for the handles to stop something.

If he had succeeded, a system that puts out fires in the engines of jets would have turned on and stopped the fuel from flowing.

The written complain says that a pilot had to struggle with Mr. Emerson until he stopped fighting and was guided out of the cockpit. The whole event took around a minute and a half.

After being controlled, Mr. Emerson warned the flight attendants that they should handcuff him immediately or else something bad would happen. He then attempted to access the emergency exit handle while the plane was descending, according to the documents.

During the interview with the police, Mr. Emerson said he had a “nervous breakdown” and didn’t sleep for 40 hours.

“He said that he pulled both emergency shut off handles because he thought he was dreaming and just wanted to wake up. ” I didn’t feel good. It looked like the pilots weren’t paying attention to what was happening. They didn’t feel like it was the right thing to do.

I’m confessing to my actions. “I am not contesting any accusations that you want to bring against me, my friends,” he said.

A person from the US Attorney’s Office told the BBC that they are still trying to find out if Mr. Emerson was under the direct influence of a psychedelic substance during that time.

Besides the accusations of trying to kill someone, Mr. Emerson is also accused of endangering people in 83 different instances and putting an aircraft in danger.

It was then sent to Portland, Oregon.

In an audio recording of pilots talking to air traffic control, one of the pilots said, “We have the person who tried to turn off the engines out of the front cabin, and he doesn’t seem to be causing any problems in the back of the plane right now. ”

The pilot said, “I believe he is calm and quiet. ” He asked for the police to be there right when we land and stop the car.

A passenger named Aubrey Gavello said that everyone on the plane didn’t know there was a problem until the flight attendant said they had to land right away because of a medical emergency.

Ms Gavello said that a flight attendant told the suspect that everything will be fine and they will help them get off the plane.

“She said she genuinely believed it was a severe medical crisis. ”

Another person on the plane said that the situation was dealt with well and the passengers didn’t know there was a problem.

On Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration told US airlines that the incident was not related to current world events at all.

The FBI said on Monday that they are looking into a situation. They also want to let people know that they have no reason to worry about any ongoing danger related to this incident.

Rwanda, DRC trade blame over border shooting

0

Rwanda is accusing ‘Kinshasa-backed’ rebels inside the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) of injuring an innocent civilian on Monday after clashes erupted near their shared border. But DRC reacted by indicating it had reported Kigali to a joint verification team for violating Congolese territorial integrity.

On Monday, Rwanda said its citizen was injured by a stray bullet originating from the clashes among the coalition of “Kinshasa backed illegal armed groups” in Eastern DRC near its border, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.

“The injured man is receiving treatment at the Cyanzarwe Health Centre in Rubavu,” said the Office of Government Spokesperson issued a statement on Monday.

“Rwanda is deeply concerned by the ongoing support and collaboration of the Government of the DRC with FDLR, other illegal armed groups, and foreign mercenaries, which is escalating provocative actions along the Rwandan border, in violation of the Luanda and Nairobi processes.”

Luanda process, mediated by Angolan President João Lourenço was supposed to help calm tensions between Kigali and Kinshasa, who accuse each other of supporting destructive rebels. The latest accusations signal broken relations that could raise tensions between them, thus hurting the Nairobi process on peace dialogue between armed groups and Kinshasa.

Maj Gen Cirimwami Peter, the interim governor of North Kivu, said the Monday clash was between two armed groups, who fought deep inside the village of Kanyarutchinya.

“The governor has ordered the immediate arrest of the troublemakers by the Defence and Security Services and their arraignment before the courts,” said Lt Col Kaiko Ndjike, an army spokesman in North Kivu.

According to the press release issued on Tuesday, the governor said Congolese authorities will target trouble-making foreign armed groups he said were behind attacking armed forces and civilian areas in Goma.

In Kinshasa, the government claimed it had drone images that showed the Rwandan army had crossed the border to reinforce M23 positions in North Kivu. Christophe Lutundula, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, stated that “the report from our security services indicates that several compatriots have been massacred and around fifty houses have been burnt down.”

“The military governor of North Kivu, Maj Gen Cirimwami Peter, has referred the matter to the joint verification mechanism set up as part of the Luanda process, in agreement with Rwanda and under the mediation of President Lourenço,” Lutundula said.

The latest incident comes a few days after Xia Huang, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region, told the UN Security Council the security and humanitarian situation has not improved since his last briefing to the Council six months ago.

Pointing to the risk of direct confrontation between the DRC and Rwanda, he warned: “The military strengthening in both countries, the absence of direct high-level dialogue and the persistence of hate speech are all worrying signs that we cannot ignore.”

His statement came as the Rwandan government briefed foreign diplomats in Rwanda expressing concerns about renewed fighting in DRC linked to the presence of mercenaries from Eastern Europe.

Foreign Affairs Minister Vincent Birutawho chaired the meeting said more than 2000 mercenaries from Eastern Europe backed by Kinshasa present a continued and heightened security threat to Rwanda.

He added that the international community has minimized the threat of FDLR’s genocidal militia.

At the same meeting, the government appealed for additional funding for refugees as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is struggling to raise sufficient resources to cater for increasing numbers.

Last week, UNHCR and the World Food Programme (WFP) released a statement informing all refugees in Rwanda that some of the assistance they receive will not be provided until the end of 2023.

Specifically, assistance that will not be provided includes cash assistance for non-food items, cash assistance for energy/gas for refugees living in Nyabiheke, Kigeme, and Kiziba camps.

Referrals to healthcare services outside of the camp are limited to emergency cases only, according to UNHCR.

The agency also plans to reduce cash food assistance effective November 2023.

Rwanda is currently hosting 134,519 refugees with the majority – 62.20 percent from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), 37.24 percent from Burundi and 0.56 percent from other nationalities.

SADC backs Zimbabwe push against Western sanctions

0

Southern African countries are rallying behind Zimbabwe’s push for the lifting of what they term an illegal economic embargo imposed by Western countries on Harare, arguing that the impact of the sanctions is being felt across the region.

Zimbabwe has been under sanctions from the US, European Union (EU), the United Kingdom, and their allies for the last two decades over alleged human rights violations.

Other countries that still maintain a sanctions regime against Zimbabwe include Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Harare contends that the sanctions were imposed as punishment for its land reform programme under the late Robert Mugabe that displaced nearly 4,000 white Zimbabwean commercial farmers from the year 2000 onwards.

In 2019, Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries set aside October 25 each year to collectively call for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe and this week the region has been sending solidarity messages to buttress calls for the removal of the embargo.

The SADC Group of Ambassadors and High Commissioners in Nairobi, Kenya, in their solidarity message, said the sanctions had negatively impacted Zimbabwe’s economy.

“We reiterate that SADC’s clarion call against the illegal and destructive sanctions against Zimbabwe will continue, calling for the country to be allowed to develop politically and socio-economically in an enabling environment,” the diplomats said.

“The international community must be made aware that the sanctions against Zimbabwe have severely hindered its economic growth through limited access to international financing trade, negatively affecting the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans.

“It is our belief that it is only through unity of purpose and collective advocacy for the lifting of these sanctions, that they will be lifted sooner rather than later.”

The diplomats said Zimbabwe’s economic growth was closely linked with that of its SADC neighbours, which meant that the effects of the sanctions were felt throughout the region.

Zimbabwe’s unending economic problems have seen its citizens leaving the country in droves in search of better opportunities in neighbouring countries such as South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zambia.

South Africa’s 2022 census report released early this month showed that there were 1. 012 million Zimbabweans living in that country, constituting 45 percent of the migrant population.

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has previously pleaded with Western countries to lift the sanctions against Zimbabwe to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into his country, which has been experiencing bouts of xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals.

SADC leaders are expected to hold a virtual summit on Wednesday to offer Zimbabwe solidarity.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe will commemorate the day by holding marches to lobby for the removal of the sanctions.

In its last annual review of its embargo in December 2022 where it removed 17 individuals from the sanctions list and added four people as well as two entities, the US said: “The Zimbabwe sanctions programme targets human rights abusers and those who undermine democratic processes or facilitate corruption.”

“Sanctions are not intended to be permanent, but to incentivise changes in behaviour,” the US said.

“US sanctions do not target the Zimbabwean people, the country of Zimbabwe or Zimbabwe’s banking sector.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who came to power six years ago after a military coup that toppled Mr Mugabe, had made reengagement with the West his main priority but he achieved very little in his first term in office.

Western countries expressed their frustration over the slow pace of reforms under the 81-year-old ruler’s watch and are increasingly alarmed by the intensifying clampdown against government critics through arrests, draconian laws, and abductions.

Zimbabwe’s chaotic elections in August, which were condemned by EU and African observer missions as not meeting international standards, made the situation worse and observers expect the embargoes to be tightened when they come up for review in December and early next year.

Korean man, 82, suffers heart attack after choking on meal of ‘live octopus

0

An old man in South Korea had a heart attack because he choked on a live octopus. The octopus was still moving when he ate it and it is a popular food in that area.

The fire station in Gwangju received a call on Monday morning about a man who was choking on a piece of san-nakji, a type of food.

When the people who help first arrived at the place, the man’s heart stopped, and they tried to bring him back to life by doing CPR, said the official.

The official did not say if the man is still alive.

San-nakji is a type of small octopus that is cut and eaten raw. People in South Korea who live near the coast or visit seafood markets often enjoy eating it.

The dish is called “live octopus,” but that’s not completely true – the octopus is actually killed before it’s served, and its tentacles are cut into pieces.

However, the octopus is served right after cutting, and it is so fresh that its tentacles’ nerves are still active. This makes the octopus look like it is still alive as it moves on the plate.

San-nakji is usually eaten with sesame oil, sesame seeds, and occasionally ginger. It has a rubbery texture.

It showed up on a 2015 episode of Anthony Bourdain’s CNN show “Parts Unknown,” when the famous chef and TV host went to South Korea to try various things like soju, Korean fried chicken, and san-nakji. Bourdain used his chopsticks to remove a sticky tentacle from the plate.

The food dish we’re talking about has been in the news before. Local media has reported that there have been cases in the past where people have died after choking or being unable to breathe because of eating “live octopus. ”

In a well-known case called the “octopus murder,” a man from South Korea was given a life sentence in 2012 for supposedly killing his girlfriend and saying it was an accident involving san-nakji. However, in 2013, the Supreme Court found him not guilty because there wasn’t enough evidence.

Senator from Washington detained in Hong Kong for possessing firearm in an airport

0

A politician from the United States got arrested in Hong Kong because he brought a gun into the city. CNN saw a document that lists the charges against him. He says it was just a mistake and he didn’t mean to do anything wrong.

Washington state senator Jeff Wilson was taken into custody on Saturday at Hong Kong International Airport. He has been accused of having a firearm without a license, which is against the law. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of up to 14 years and have to pay a fine of over $12,000.

Wilson went to court on Monday and was allowed to leave after paying bail, as reported by RTHK.

The Republican state senator, whose whole name is Stephen J. Wilson admitted that he didn’t realize he had put his gun in his bag when he and his wife were going on a five-week vacation to Southeast Asia. This information was shared on his website.

“It was a mistake that was made without any intention to deceive or cause harm. ” Wilson said in the statement that she believes the situation will be fixed soon.

Wilson said he found the weapon while he was flying from San Francisco to Hong Kong.

The person didn’t know that he had a gun in his bag when he went through airport security in Portland. The people checking the bags didn’t see it either.

Wilson said that as soon as the plane arrived in Hong Kong, he went straight to the customs officials and told them about the problem.

A spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration said in an email to CNN that they know a passenger carried an empty gun in their bag through security at Portland International Airport.

The person was taken into custody when they arrived in Hong Kong. The TSA is very concerned about this situation and is currently looking into what happened.

It said that if you bring a gun to a TSA checkpoint, you could be fined up to $15,000. Also, you won’t be allowed to use TSA PreCheck for up to five years.

CNN has asked for a response or statement from Portland International Airport and San Francisco International Airport.

A spokesperson from the US Consulate General said they know about the reports, but can’t say more because they need to respect people’s privacy.

The Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong declined to comment on ongoing legal proceedings, according to an email sent to CNN.

The news from RTHK says that Wilson will go to court in Hong Kong on October 30 for his next hearing.

In Hong Kong, it is against the law for anyone to have guns or bullets without permission from the police. Only police officers, armed security guard services, and exclusive shooting range club operators are allowed to have licenses.

Problems with guns are not common in Hong Kong, unlike in the United States where guns are a big issue. The leading cause of death for children and teenagers is one dangerous person.

In Washington state, you can carry guns openly without a license. This means you can carry a gun in many public places, but some private property owners can still say no to guns on their property. However, you must have a license to carry hidden guns in this state.

Wilson mentioned that his gun was officially recorded in Washington state and he has a license that allows him to carry it hidden.

Supreme Court of Japan rule against trans sterilization law

0

The highest court in Japan has decided that it goes against the Constitution to make people unable to have children anymore before they can legally change their gender.

The 2004 law stated that individuals are allowed to change their gender if they are unable to have children.

The ruling on Wednesday happened because a transgender woman asked the court to reconsider the law.

Human Rights Watch says it’s bad and old.

On Wednesday, the court changed its previous decision and declared that the law, which was previously considered constitutional in 2019, is no longer valid.

Japan is one of 18 countries that make it compulsory for people to have sterilization surgery. This is something that the World Health Organization disagrees with. Canada is the only G7 country that does not have a law allowing same-sex unions.

The woman’s lawyer said that her ability to have children has decreased because of the hormones she has been taking for many years. He also mentioned that surgery would cause her to endure physical pain and could have negative effects afterward.

The family and high court said no to her request before she went to the Supreme Court.

Kanae Doi, the Japan director of Human Rights Watch, said to Reuters that the government needs to act swiftly to remove the clause.

But some groups who did not want the law to be changed said that if people were able to change their gender legally without having surgery, it might make women feel less safe. They also said that it might make things legally unclear.

According to recent polls, more and more people are supporting laws that are friendly towards LGBTQ individuals. However, there are some conservative people and politicians who disagree with these laws.

Recently, a court decided to support a transgender man named Gen Suzuki. He wanted to legally change his gender without having surgery.

The judge in the family court, Takehiro Sekiguchi, said that the existing law goes against Article 13 of the Constitution, which states that everyone should be treated with respect as individuals.

Irish woman fired over post regarding ‘terrorist state’ of Israel

0

The Prime Minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, said that if a woman was fired for a post on social media about the Israel-Gaza war because of her political beliefs, he would suggest that she consult a lawyer for advice.

Courtney Carey lost her job at an Israeli technology company called Wix. Wix has around 500 employees in its office in Dublin. Courtney got fired because she called Israel a “terrorist state” on social media.

She later expressed that she disapproves of any type of violence, no matter who does it.

The president of Wix, Nir Zohar, said that their company is open-minded and tolerant, and they will never try to restrict anyone’s political opinions.

But, he said that the employee was told not to post anything offensive again after recently posting something similar, and the company later decided to let go of Ms.

The problem was discussed in the Dáil (Irish parliament’s lower house) on Tuesday. Varadkar said that he didn’t know the specifics of the situation, but he advised Ms. Carey to get advice because it’s against Irish employment law to fire someone because of their political beliefs.

This tweet cannot be shown on your internet browser. Please turn on JavaScript or use a different web browser to see the original content on Twitter.
“I think that is not right and I would suggest that the woman should get advice from the WRC, a trade union or a solicitor. It might be considered as unfair firing and there are ways to fix it,” he said.

The Irish Times said that Wix made a chat group for employees to talk about supporting Israel’s story on their messaging app, Slack.

The text says that the employees were encouraged to participate in a company project to make videos and campaigns that would change how people around the world think about the Israel-Gaza war.
Mick Barry TD brought up Ms. Carey’s firing in the Irish Parliament and asked the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to comment on the situation.

This could scare many workers in our country who want to speak against a very cruel war. “It also sets a bad example where workers can lose their jobs for sharing their political opinions,” he said.

Richard Boyd Barrett, a member of People Before Profit, found the case very disturbing when he talked about it in the Dáil.

In other places, the deputy prime minister Micheál Martin has said it’s not okay for someone to lose their job just because they have their own opinions.

“We are in a democracy where we can freely discuss and express our thoughts. Everyone has the right to express their opinions, and there are different opinions on these matters,” he said to the reporters on Tuesday.

“People unknowingly being prejudiced against Israel”

The conversation is happening at a time when Ireland and Israel are having difficulties in their diplomatic relationship.

Last week, Irish President Michael D Higgins talked to reporters in Italy and said that Israel broke international law when they retaliated against attacks and kidnappings by the Palestinian group Hamas.

Israel’s ambassador to Ireland, Dana Erlich, was criticized for calling Mr Higgins misinformed in a way that was not helpful.

Ms Erlich also expressed doubts about Ireland’s neutrality on the war. In an interview with the Sunday Independent, she mentioned that there is a strong belief in Israel that Ireland has an unconscious preference for other sides and is unfavorable towards Israel.

In another place, a high-ranking diplomat from Israel claimed that the Republic of Ireland supported Hamas financially. However, this statement was later removed from social media.

Adi Ophir Moaz, who works for the Israeli embassy in Dublin, said on X (previously known as Twitter) that Ireland provided money for the underground passages used for harmful purposes in Gaza.

A representative from the Israeli embassy explained that they deleted the post because it did not reflect the views of Israel or the embassy, and because the wording was incorrect.

Richard Roundtree, an American actor who is most famous for playing the main character in the Shaft movies, has passed away at the age of 81.

He passed away on Tuesday afternoon at his home in Los Angeles. His family was with him when he died, according to his manager Patrick McMinn.

He died after a brief fight with pancreatic cancer.

“According to McMinn, Richard’s job and career marked an important moment for African American men taking on prominent roles in movies. ”

“He had a huge influence on the industry,” he said.

Roundtree was born on July 9, 1942 in New Rochelle, New York. He started acting in the 1960s.

He became famous at the age of 29 for his role as detective John Shaft, and many people thought he was a very special actor.
The movie series from the 1970s was very famous because it was one of the first movies in a genre called Blaxploitation. These movies were action films that focused on black characters who were heroes.

Republicans choose Mike Johnson as their candidate for Speaker

0

Republicans have chosen Congressman Mike Johnson as their new choice for the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He is the fourth person suggested for a position after three others didn’t get enough support, and he is the second one suggested today.

Mr Johnson was chosen on Tuesday evening after three voting rounds.

Since Kevin McCarthy was removed on October 3rd, the House has not had a Speaker and has not been able to pass any bills.

Louisiana’s Mr Johnson, who is 51 years old, was chosen. House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik shared this information.

Republicans in Congress have a small lead over Democrats, so their chosen candidate can only lose a few votes from their own party and still win.

Mr Johnson was chosen as the nominee shortly after the previous nominee, Tom Emmer, withdrew because he did not have enough support.

It is not clear if Mr. Johnson will have enough votes to win in the House. He needs 217 votes, which is a simple majority.

In the voting that happened on Tuesday, Mr. Johnson came in second place after Mr. Emmer However, Emmer withdrew from the race because former President Donald Trump criticized him.

Ms Stefanik said that Mr. Johnson got 128 votes in the last round of voting. Congressman Byron Donald came in second place with 29 votes.
Mr Johnson is likely to have his nomination approved by a vote in the House on Wednesday afternoon. If he does not succeed, Republicans will have to start over once more.

Wisconsin Congressman Mike Gallagher told Politico that he doesn’t think Mr. Johnson can get enough votes to win in the House.

“He said that repeating the same thing over and over again is like being insane, as far as he knows. ”

Mr Johnson is a lawyer and used to host a talk radio show. He has been a member of the House since 2016. He used to be the leader of the Republican Study Committee, and is seen as a good friend of Mr. Jordan

In 2020, Mr Johnson was seen as an important person who tried to challenge Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 election for president.

Ichipani basenda kuli Miles… Miles Sampa scoops PF presidency with landslide

0

MILES SAMPA ELECTED NEW PF PRESIDENT.

Matero member of Parliament has been elected as the new President of the Patriotic Front at the extra ordinary conference held at Government Complex this afternoon.
Mr.Sampa won with a landslide victory after polling over 2900 votes out of the 3000 votes cast.

The conference attracted delegates from all the ten of provinces in the country.

Seven candidates successfully filed in their nominations to contest for the PF Presidency among them Miles Sampa,Lameck Njobvu,Robert Mulusa ,Jane Siyanga, Loyd Monga,Morgan Kano and Ali Zulu.

Returning Officer Morris Malawo declared Mr.Sampa as duly elected President of the PF.

And Mr.Sampa told the delegates that the PF has convened a general conference because some people have imposed themselves on party positions and do not want to be subjected to elections.

Meanwhile Mafinga member of parliament Robert Chawinga said Mr.Sampa will bring democracy in the PF which has been hijacked.

Meanwhile PF Chairperson for Information and Publicity Emmanuel Mwamba said the convention is illegal and is sponsored by the state.

Ignore Illegalities Being Committed By Miles Sampa, It’s A Sponsored Activity From State House- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

0

IGNORE ILLEGALITIES BEING COMMITTED BY MILES SAMPA, IT’S A SPONSORED ACTIVITY FROM STATE HOUSE

Lusaka-October 24th, 2023

We have noted that an illegal activity is being held by suspended Matero MP, Miles Sampa at Mulungushi International Conference in the name of the Patriotic Front.

We must emphasise that Mr. Sampa remains suspended from the Party and can not therefore hold any function or activity in the name of the Patriotic Front.

This activity taking place at Mulungushi International Conference is illegal and against the PF Party Constitution.

The Constitution is very clear on how the General Conference or Extra-Ordinary General Conference are called and held.

This issue was reported to the Police on Monday as persons masquerading as members of the Party were due to hold an illegal meeting.

We are aware and have evidence that this is a state sponsored activity and is meant to destabilize the Patriotic Front in particular and the Opposition in general.

We understand that the UPND top leadership sponsoring this process have mooted what they are calling an “MDC plot” against the PF, whereby a parallel Patriotic Front will be created, sponsored, and supported by the UPND and State House.

The MDC Plot is wereby, a faction of MDC led by Welsh Ncube of Zimbabwe was created against the legitimate MDC party led by Mr. Morgan Tsvangirai.

Therefore Mr. Sampa is a mere stooge in this process as it is a UPND Operation.

We have seen the heavy presence of Police that has been deployed at Mulungushi for Mr. Sampa to hold this illegal activity.

This is a clear attack against Democracy and its growth.

In 1991, the Zambian people decided that this country will be a multiparty democracy and the UPND must respect the will of Zambians.

Since 2021 the UPND and State House have been engaged in concerted activities designed to destroy the Opposition.

As we have warned before, today’s activity is part of a larger plot against the Opposition targeting the 2026 elections.

Organs such as the Electoral Commission of Zambia, the National Registration Office and the Registrar of Societies are all part of this larger scheme as exposed earlier.

We urge our members to remain calm and peaceful during this period.

This chaos being perpetrated by Mr. Sampa, like the earlier activity to storm and damage the party Secretariat, will be dealt with.

Stop Playing Games, Tell Us If You Want Lungu Back, Davies Chama Tells Lubinda And Group

STOP PLAYING GAMES, TELL US IF YOU WANT LUNGU BACK, DAVIES CHAMA TELLS LUBINDA AND GROUP

PATRIOTIC Front national chairperson Davies Chama has told the Given Lubinda-led group to stop playing hide seek about former president Edgar Lungu’s position in the party.

Chama said if Lubinda and group had decided to bring back the former president, they should come out in the open and inform the general party membership.

He complained that two years after Lubinda was put in charge to convene a general conference to elect a new president, the former Kabwata member of parliament had failed lamentably.

“The resolution to go for the conference was made in 2021, two years done the line and we are going into third year and we have not achieved that objective.”

“For me if you are supposed to assess someone based on the KPI, key point indicators you have failed. Given Lubinda has failed,” he said.

Chama therefore urged Lubinda to reflect on his leadership and make the moral decision to step aside.

Chama said even the money that had been raised to facilitate the hosting of the general conference had been squandered.

“The K1.8 million that was raised so that we can have a conference, that money is gone, it was spent. (even) the money raised to build the party secretariat, the headquarters it’s gone.”

“And when you talk you are seen to be distabalising the party,” he added.

Questioned about who had spent the money, Chama declined to provide specifics, saying, “You ask them.”

Reacting to the announcement of his suspension from the party, Chama said he had been suspended for pushing for a general conference.

Chama, along with Matero member of parliament Miles Sampa and two other party lawmakers were suspended from the party on charges of indiscipline during a central committee meeting on Sunday.

In an interview with #Kalemba, Chama said party members’ growing frustration with the delay in holding a party convention to elect a new president.

Chama also advised Lubinda to be straightforward about former president Edgar Lungu’s intentions for the 2026 general elections, rather than playing games and urged him not to keep party members in the dark.

He said if the party wanted Lungu back, the leadership must come out in the open and say it public instead of playing “hide and seek” with adults.

“Don’t play games with the members of the party you just have to make an announcement that we are going with president Lungu

He also stated that a complaint he filed against the 3 Police Officers at the Police and Public Complaints Commission has also not been heard four months after it was filed.

ABOUT THE $15 BILLION PROPOSED ZNS SMELTER- Sean Tembo

0

ABOUT THE $15 BILLION PROPOSED ZNS SMELTER

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. The announcement by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) Commandant that the defence wing had obtained a $15 billion loan from China to build a smelter in North-Western Province, left some of us with our mouths agape.

2. The shock did not arise from the illogic of using a defence wing to implement such a project when we have appropriate institutions such as ZCCM Investment Holdings and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) which have appropriate corporate governance systems in place compared to ZNS.

3. Our consternation arose from the shear cost of the project. $15 billion dollars is way too much money for a smelter. Even ten percent of that amount would be way too much money for a smelter. Just to put it in context, the budget for Dangote’s much talked about petrochemicals refinery in Nigeria which is the biggest in Africa and the third biggest in the World, was $12 billion.

4. It is very likely that our good General at ZNS made a mistake when announcing this figure and meant to say $150 million or maybe K15 billion. As a matter of fact, it is not uncommon for people who are not financially adept to mix figures up and mention figures that raise eyebrows to those of us who are financially literate. Our journalists need to get back to our General and obtain a clarification on the $15 billion figure he mentioned.

5. If however the exorbitant $15 billion figure was correct, as announced by ZNS, then there will be little doubt in my mind that our Government is engaging in a money laundering scheme regarding this particular transaction. It means they are getting a loan whose purpose is disguised as construction of a smelter, when in fact the real purpose of the loan is being hidden from the Zambian people.

6. That would partially explain why the said smelter project is being implemented by the Zambia National Service, a defense wing, and not IDC or ZCCM-IH. Because the former is not subject to any corporate governance scrutiny whereas the later is. That means if Government wants to engage in money laundering, they are more likely to succeed by using ZNS instead of IDC or ZCCM-IH.

7. Ever wondered why the illegal mining at Kasenseli Gold Mine and the Sugilite Mines in Luapula as well as the illegal sell of Mukula logs and smuggling of mealie meal to DRC are all facilitated by ZNS?

Anyway, happy 59th independence anniversary. The Future is SET ✌️✌️✌️

TAKE WHAT UPND SAYS WITH A PINCH OF SALT – MUNDUBILE

TAKE WHAT UPND SAYS WITH A PINCH OF SALT – MUNDUBILE

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Brian Mundubile says the revelation that currently, there’s only a verbal agreement between government and Vedanta is a lesson that whatever UPND says should be taken with a pinch of salt.

On Friday last week, Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe disclosed that there currently exists a verbal agreement between government and Vedanta pending the signing of the deal.

But commenting on this in an interview`, Saturday, Mundubile said Zambians should realise that whatever UPND says must be taken with a pinch of salt.

“From what we have learnt now, it should be a wake up call to the Zambian people that whatever the UPND says should be taken with a pinch of salt. At the same time, it should be a very good reminder to the UPND that they should for once take the lives of the Zambian people seriously.

The challenges in the mining sector, the challenges on the Copperbelt require
a serious intervention not what they are getting now. It is indeed a very sad statement; you know that the people who have been charged with the responsibility to manage the affairs of this country take it very casually about where they go, he said.

And Mundubile said it appeared the
UPND top leadership was trying to benefit from the deal.

“For me, this could be evidence of something more, I don’t think this whole thing is not designed. Bad as it may be, there should be some design somewhere where the UPND top leadership is going to benefit from this bad deal, this non existent [deal], there is a benefit that is going to accrue to the UPND. For them, in every deal, they make sure that they walk away as victors. The Zambian people
are never a priority but themselves. Remember that up to now, there has never been a response as regards to the syndicated mechanised operation that has been happening in KCM under the name of Senseli Mining. Sensel Mining is a serious operation in KCM that government has failed to explain what it is all about and who is behind it,” he said.

“A verbal agreement made over a glass of whiskey can sound very nice. What we expected to see was commitment on paper. And last time, we said even if the commitment of the agreement was on paper, Vedanta has a reputation of not honouring or respecting agreements including court orders. Even at that time we were saying how will we trust that this person will honour the agreement.
Now can you a imagine that according to honourable Kabuswe, Vedanta who signed
a written agreement with the PF and defaulted on them, they called him to say the new Vedanta is more serious, to the UPND, he is more serious because they
now only have verbal agreements, can you imagine that?”

“His reasoning is that Vedanta is more serious when they have entered into a verbal agreement and not when the PF government entered into an agreement with him in writing. But in this case, the UPND thinks Vedanta is more serious because he committed himself verbally. The question maybe is who is not serious in this whole thing? So, it is regrettable, it is a very sad state of affairs and the Zambians must wake up and realise that the country has been left in very dangerous hands”

He said UPND did not have any serious plans to resolve problems in the mining sector.

“Honourable Kabuswe when we questioned him on the floor of the House as to what plans they have in place should Vedanta operate in its usual style of not respecting agreements, the response from honourable Kabuswe was that there was a clause in the agreement what they called a deemed offer [indicating] that when there is a breach on any of the terms of the agreement, it will be deemed to be an offer back to government. Now, if today we are told there was nothing signed, where is that deemed offer? How will the courts tomorrow interpret that deemed offer which was never written anywhere? So, it goes to show that the UPND government has no serious plans to resolve the challenges in the mining sector,” said Mundubile.

“Number two, it shows that they are in a hurry to appease the citizens even when there is nothing. Can you imagine what is happening – the amount of suffering of the people on the Copperbelt today they will be told that nothing has been signed, it was just a talk show, it was just a chat over coffee or maybe whisky and then you go to the nation and announce that you have reached an agreement.

You even cause the President to present to Parliament a statement that now we have reached an agreement with KCM and yet the facts are totally different”

Ministry of information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo kawana mourns Andrew Ntewewe.

BITTER SWEET MEMORIES ABIDE.

We have bn in Lunga District of Luapula Province on the island, reaching out to our pipo and delivering development in line with our New Dawn Administration theme which is to deliver development to all parts of the country regardless of political, cultural and/or religious affiliation.

It was a joyous occasion and beautiful days since Thursday as our team of Permanent Secretaries consisting of PS Special Duties Mucheleka, PS Local Govt Nick Phiri, PS Green Economy Chibamba, PS Luapula Province Mumba, PS Energy Peter Mumba and Director representing PS Infrastructure together with Local Govt Commission Chairperson Ackson Sejani did not just visit the island for a day’s visit but stayed over spending nights with the villagers and sleeping in unfinished houses together with the dedicated Public Service workers deployed to the island.

The island is having it’s water canals (roads) weeded out, widened and deepened. Starlink internet is up and running, 100% delivery of school desks, clinic fully stocked with medicines and electricity bn connected to the island and onto the main grid. Farming inputs delivered in full and infrastructure projects abandoned since 2014 bn worked on for continuation and completion. The Chiefs are delighted at the sight of engineers moving on site to start construction of Chiefs palaces with motorized boats to be bought for them as their mainland counterparts get vehicles. The pipo and their children are all overwhelmed with joy over the care and concern shown by a Govt and President who got zero votes from the area yet takes real development they can touch, see, feel and live with unconditionally. A President for all Zambians indeed.

After hours of traveling on the waters and lake, I have arrived in Mansa in preparation for my routine dialysis session tomorrow at Mansa General Hospital. My mood is saddened by the news of demise of a galant son of the soil, a fighter who fought the condition of kidney failure and surviving on dialysis, a condition we shared and had healthy chats each time we met at UTH for our routine dialysis.

Last week, I left him at UTH after our session as he was admitted for an infection (usual in renal patients) and I was sure like always, he would get fixed up and eventually discharged. Our conversation last week was casual and full of laughter, little did I know it was the last time we would ever speak again. What a blow!

Go well dear friend and brother Andrew Ntewewe, you fought a good fight and ran your race. It’s time for you to rest in God’s care, I will miss you my brother. May your soul find eternal rest in God’s peace.

Farewell Ntewewe, it is well with your soul. We remain and continue to sing of the goodness of God, knowing fully that our day too is coming to join with you.

Tyrese’s Ex-Wife Regrets Divorce, Says Bad Influences Got The Best Of Her

0

Tyrese’s ex-wife, Samantha Lee, recently added a wildly different but compelling side to their nasty divorce story. For those unaware, the two are currently feuding quite heavily over the circumstances and post-breakup divisions in their relationship, whether on personal terms or in court.

However, it seems like this bad blood hasn’t blinded her to what she sees as a mistake. Moreover, Lee recently appeared on the Hardly Initiated podcast with co-hosts Ryan Catchings and Tysean Jackson. During her appearance, she recalled how over three years of marriage went down the drain because of bad influences.

“It’s very important to seek wise counsel,” Samantha Lee remarked of the Tyrese situation. “You have to really decide and make a very calculated decision based on your belief systems. “I think we do take divorce very casually. I would never tell a woman to walk through that. [Not] in the same frame as I was when I did it. I was very, very, hurt, I was very angry. I remember when I made the decision. [When] I was hysterically crying on the phone with my attorney, I was not in any position to make that decision, I was extremely emotionally intoxicated. I would never tell somebody to make that decision when they’re that emotional but of course, I wasn’t talking to someone that genuinely would be for marriage or for reconciliation.

“That’s no slight to my attorney,” Samantha Lee continued about her split from Tyrese. “At the time when I was on the phone and I made that decision, I was livid. I was emotional. If I’m that emotional and I’m that hurt and I’m on that level, if it’s misguided and misdirected it could go in a bad direction. The people I had in my ear at the time were not for that. The truth about the matter is that if I had different people in my ear at that time I would not have made that decision. I’m an extremely emotional person. There will be moments where, like, ’I’m ready to be done, I can’t stand this! He don’t do this!’ We’re just focusing on these things. You don’t have a certain person in your life to check you and say ‘Sis, what about this, what about these strengths?’

“You may not be thinking about when you’re upset,” she concluded. “You’re only thinking about what you’re mad about, you’re not thinking about all the other positive aspects of this person. So in those moments, you need somebody to be that person for that person in those moments. You don’t win when a family is broken apart. There was a marital therapist that was speaking to both me and him. He said when you get lawyers involved, it gets ugly. I didn’t even realize how ugly it would get. Like, if I could walk back in time… Sometimes I battle with myself about that. But at the time, I thought I was doing the right thing or the best thing. I didn’t know how ugly it could get.” For more news and the latest updates on Tyrese, stick around on HNHH.

Brussel shooter escaped from Tunisian jail

0

The person who was shooting at people was found at a cafe close to where he lives in Schaerbeek, in the northern part of Brussels, on Tuesday morning. The police shot and killed him.

“I really want to say sorry to the people who were hurt and their family members,” Mr Van Quickenborne said while announcing that he is stepping down. I don’t want to hear any reasons.

He said he wanted to be held accountable for this very bad mistake in his political position.

Brussels’ public prosecutor, Tim De Wolf, said that there were not enough staff in his office, which is why they did not respond to the extradition request.

He said that they received the extradition file in September of last year, and it was likely forgotten in a filing cabinet.

None of the coworkers involved can recall what happened to this particular file one year ago. “He said that no one has touched it. ”

The prosecutor did not say why Lassoued was put in jail, but news in Belgium says he was imprisoned for trying to kill two people.

The person who attacked had asked for protection and permission to stay in Norway, Sweden, Belgium, and Italy.

In 2016, the Italian intelligence services found out that he had become an extremist and began watching him closely.

It was also revealed that Lassoued had been in prison in Sweden for two years because he was involved in selling drugs. Swedish media reported that he got arrested in Malmo for having 100 grams (or 3. 5 ounces) of cocaine.
The attack in Brussels has made Sweden very surprised because it caused the death of two men, one in his 70s and the other in his 60s.

Maja, who lives in Brussels and has citizenship in both Sweden and Britain, says that this might be one of the first instances where Swedes have been singled out because of their nationality.

After some people in Sweden burned copies of the Quran, which is a holy book in Islam, the government is telling Swedish citizens that there is more danger to them now.

Books that are important to Muslims have been set on fire outside buildings like embassies, mosques, and the Swedish parliament.

This made Muslim countries very angry, and in August the terror warning level was increased to the second-highest level because of threats from Islamic extremists.

Maja said that she always thought having a Swedish passport was a good thing. “But things have really become different. ”

The Swedish Security Service, called Sapo, said they are working closely with the Belgian authorities.

The Belgian prosecutor is investigating the shooting as a terrorist attack. This incident occurred at a time when there are increased worries about security in Europe due to the Israel-Hamas war.

Belgium has decided to take additional safety precautions because of the attack that happened last week. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office, federal judicial police, and railway police will all receive more staff members.

The sharing of information between the immigration service, the police, and the judiciary will be increased.

Canadian visas to resume once diplomats are secure – India’s Foreign Minister

0

India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has said that they will start giving visas to Canadians again if they notice improvements in the safety of Indian diplomats in Canada.

India stopped issuing visas in September because they said there were security problems at their offices in Canada.

The two countries are in the middle of a disagreement over the killing of a Sikh separatist leader in Canada.

Ottawa has previously stated that it is very concerned about the safety of diplomats.

But it has not answered India’s specific claims about dangers to its diplomats in Canada.

The relationship between the countries got much worse after the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, said in September that his country was looking into “believable accusations that could link” the Indian government to the murder of a Sikh leader.

India completely disagreed with the accusations and thought they were ridiculous.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who is from Canada, was killed in his car by two people wearing masks outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia in June. Nijjar strongly supported a separate Sikh homeland called Khalistan. This was a controversial topic in India because there was a violent rebellion in the 1980s demanding it.

Who was Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the leader of Sikhs in Canada.
Why do some Sikhs want their own state.

India was worried about the safety of its officials in Canada even before things got worse. They were concerned about threats from Khalistan supporters. In July, Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly wrote on Twitter that the country is very concerned about the safety of its diplomats. This came after a poster for a pro-Khalistan rally blamed two Indian diplomats for the death of Nijjar.

In September, the Indian government said they had to temporarily stop giving visas to Canadians. They said this was because their embassy and consulates in Canada were being threatened, which made it hard for them to work normally. The Canadian embassy also mentioned that some of the people who work for them have been threatened on different social media sites.

Canada’s foreign minister said 41 diplomats left India last week. India asked Canada to remove many of their staff, saying they would not have immunity if they stayed.

Canadian officials have said that this goes against the rules that countries have agreed upon in the world. The United States and the United Kingdom are worried about the decision.

On Sunday, Mr Jaishankar explained that India wants both countries to have equal diplomatic rights and that this aligns with the rules of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations.

He said that we used parity because we were worried about Canadian people interfering in our affairs often. This was mentioned at an event, and he also mentioned that the relationship between India and Canada was going through a tough period.

“But I just want to say that the issues we have are with a specific group in Canadian politics and the decisions that come from that,” he said.

Canada’s visa services are still available in India, but it has informed that it will take longer to process them due to having fewer staff after the diplomats left. Currently, both Canada and India have 21 diplomats in each other’s country.

Last week, Mr. Trudeau said that India’s strict actions towards diplomats were making life difficult for many people in both countries.

According to the 2021 census, Canada has 1. 4 million people who come from India. More than half of them are Sikhs. These Indian-origin people make up 3. 7% of Canada’s population. India sends the most students from other countries to Canada. In 2022, 320,000 of the total international students in Canada were from India, which is 40% of the total.

In 2021, around 80,000 people from Canada went to visit India. Only the US, Bangladesh, and UK had more tourists visiting India that year.

New President of Maldives wants India to leave his country

0

“We do not want any foreign military forces to be present in the Maldives. I made a promise to the people of the Maldives, and I will keep that promise right from the start. ”

Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who recently won the election to become the president of Maldives, is quickly requesting India to remove its soldiers from the country.

The person who will become president soon had a talk with the Indian ambassador after winning the election. He told the ambassador that he wants all Indian soldiers to leave.

The Maldives has been strongly influenced by India for a long time. Mr Muizzu’s demand is likely to cause problems in the relationship between Malé and Delhi.

When Mr Muizzu became the president of Maldives, it was seen as a disadvantage for India. This is because his opponent, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, had improved the relationship between their country and Delhi since he became the president in 2018.

The group supporting Mr Muizzu depicted this bond, which is strengthened by Mr Solih’s focus on India, as a danger to the independence and safety of the Maldives.

Mr Muizzu’s alliance wants a stronger relationship with China. China has given a lot of money to the Maldives for building things and helping the country grow.

India wants to have a presence in the islands that are strategically situated because it allows them to keep an eye on an important area of the Indian Ocean. As part of this, India has given around $2 billion in aid to help develop the country.

If the soldiers have to go away, it will be bad for Delhi.

But a lot of anger about the “presents” that Delhi gave to the Maldives – two helicopters they received in 2010 and 2013 and a small airplane in 2020 – has made the “India out” movement much stronger.

Delhi mentioned that the vehicles would be used for finding and saving people in emergencies and for moving sick or injured people to hospitals.

In 2021, the Maldivian defense force stated that around 75 Indian military members were in the country to operate and take care of the Indian planes. This made people become suspicious and angry because they thought that the reconnaissance planes were being used as an excuse to send Indian soldiers to the area.

Mr Muizzu also says that having these troops in the Maldives might make the country vulnerable, particularly as tensions between India and China get worse along their border in the Himalayan region.

“Maldives is too tiny to become involved in this worldwide struggle for power. ” “He said we won’t get involved in this. ”

In an interview with the BBC before the presidential election, the current president Mr Solih stated that concerns regarding the Indian troops were blown out of proportion.

There are no soldiers from other countries currently based in the Maldives. “He said that the Indian people in the country are following the orders of the Maldives National Defence Force. ”

However, it is not only the airplane. Muizzu expressed his desire to examine all the agreements that the Maldives has made with India in the past few years.

We are not aware of what is inside. Even in Parliament, some of the Members of Parliament (MPs) admitted that they did not know what is contained within the material being discussed during the debates. “I am confident that we will figure it out,” he stated.

Shortly after winning, people noticed that the Chinese ambassador in Malé was fast to congratulate Mr Muizzu.

The President of China, Xi Jinping, also spoke about this. He said he values the relationship between our countries and is willing to work with President-elect Muizzu to strengthen our friendship and work together on practical projects.

Mr Muizzu thinks Chinese infrastructure projects in the Maldives are really good. He says that these investments have changed Malé city and helped the people who live there.

However, he said he is not supporting China and instead supports India unlike Mr.

I strongly support the Maldives. He said Maldives is the most important to him, and our freedom is also very important. “I have no positive or negative stance towards any country. ”

However, his opposition team includes the party of a former president, Abdulla Yameen, who played an important role in bringing the Maldives closer to China.

When India and Western lenders refused to give loans to Yameen’s government because of claims of human rights abuses, Yameen, who is now in prison for corruption, asked Beijing for money and they gave it to him without any rules or requirements.

After that, he became a part of President Xi’s Belt and Road Initiative – a plan to create transportation connections (like roads, railways, and sea routes) between China and other countries.

Mr Muizzu was seen as a substitute for Yameen, who was not allowed to participate in the election.

Right after his election victory, Mr. Muizzu requested the current government to transfer Yameen from a highly secure prison to being confined at his house in the capital, Male.

However, since Yameen has a difficult and stressed relationship with Delhi, it might be challenging for Mr. Muizzu’s new partnership to maintain a good relationship with India.

Mr Muizzu seems eager to step out of Yameen’s influence and is ready to take a new direction in both domestic and foreign affairs of the country.

Because he won by a large margin, he might not encounter much opposition from within his group, at least at first.

He seems determined to distance the Maldives from India’s influence, but his first major challenge might be persuading Delhi to remove its troops.

Javier Milei and Sergio Massa to face off in second round of Argentine presidential election

0

In Argentina’s presidential election on Sunday, the economy minister Sergio Massa surprised everyone by getting over 36% of the votes. This means he has a good chance of competing with far-right candidate Javier Milei in a second round.

Mr Massa’s lead came as a surprise because people thought voters would be angry with him for being in charge during a financial crisis.

The rate of inflation in Argentina is almost 140%.

With almost all votes counted, none of the candidates got enough votes (45%) to win directly.

So, there will be another voting round on November 19th. People will need to decide between Mr. Massa, who belongs to the left-wing Peronist group, and Mr. Milei, who follows a far-right libertarian ideology.

Mr Milei, who got the most votes in the elections in August, is now second place with 30% of the votes.

Patricia Bullrich, who used to be in charge of security and has conservative views, came in third place with 23. 8% of the votes.
After the result was announced, Ms Bullrich criticized Sergio Massa for being part of the worst government in Argentina’s history. She stated that she would not congratulate him.

Juan Schiaretti and Myriam Bregman, the other two candidates in the election, did not receive as many votes. Juan Schiaretti got 6. 8% of the votes and Myriam Bregman got 2. 7% of the votes.

Some people who support Mr. Massa went out on the streets in Buenos Aires to celebrate after he won unexpectedly.

Luis Esquivel said to the BBC that Massa demonstrated that he was the only candidate with a real plan for the country.

“He organized a successful campaign, and the results prove it,” said Juliana Agrofoglio, a 27-year-old. She also said that the voters came together to face the fear that Mr. Milei had caused.

Mr Milei suggested getting rid of the central bank and using the US dollar instead of the Argentine peso. This appealed to voters who wanted a drastic solution to improve Argentina’s struggling economy.

He has also said he will reduce the number of ministries and make the government smaller, make it easier to own guns, and make it harder to get an abortion.

In easier terms, Mr. Milei said to his followers that they had seen the most significant election in the past 100 years. He added that Sunday’s vote was important because Argentineans voted for something different.

Benjamin Gedan, who is in charge of the Argentina Project at the Wilson Center think tank in Washington, said that even though many people in Argentina want big changes, there are also many who would suffer if the social welfare system that Mr. Milei suggests gets taken apart.

“If Milei is at rallies holding a chainsaw, it means people’s quality of life is being negatively impacted,” Mr. Gedan told the AFP news agency. Mr Massa mostly talked about why the current government is good and should be supported during his campaign.

“Our country is facing a difficult situation (. ) but you believed in us as the best means to make progress in Argentina’s history,” he told his supporters in Buenos Aires.

The 51-year-old person said that the cuts in spending made by his government happened because the previous government had borrowed a lot of money from the IMF.

With two very different candidates competing against each other, disagreements are likely to get worse in the next month leading up to the final vote. This is happening during a tough period for Argentina’s economy.

The person who wins the run-off will face a big task: to convince a country tired of politics and filled with people who desperately want their lives to get better.

How Zambia’s former ruling party planned to address national debt obligations- Edwin Lifwekelo

A Path to Debt Resilience
How Zambia’s former ruling party planned to address national debt obligations

In 2020, Zambia found itself grappling with a severe debt crisis primarily caused by the pandemic. The PF led government were not content to merely seek forms of respite or debt relief from creditors. They had a long- term vision of economic resilience. Here we outline measures that were planned and proposed by the former ruling party to address Zambia’s debt crisis and how other developing nations have succeeded using similar strategies, often reducing their reliance on international institutions like the IMF and World Bank.

Mining Industry Reforms

The PF government aimed to ensure that mining houses paid their fair share of taxes. This approach was inspired by the success of countries like Chile, where comprehensive mining reforms significantly increased government revenue. If and when implemented, this measure would have generated substantial tax revenue, helping the country to service its debt and reduce the debt burden on Zambia. In fact, this strategy was already bearing fruit. As at 2021, the nation was gaining up to $ 500 million in mining revenue per annum. Sadly these gains have been reversed by the UPND government through the provision of tax holidays to the mines. Mining tax revenue has drastically reduced placing strain on our national coffers.

Mining industry reforms also included Joint Ventures in copper mines. Ownership of the Mopani and KCM copper mines with strategic partners was sought. This was ensured revenue beyond mere tax obligations and securing our natural resources for future generations. Countries like Peru and Mongolia have successfully ventured into state participation in mining, reaping the rewards of increased control and revenue. Mongolia provides an intriguing case study of how joint ventures in the mining sector can contribute to economic development and fiscal stability. One of the most prominent examples is the Oyu Tolgoi mines, one of the worlds largest copper mines. The development of this mine was made possible through a partnership between the Mongolian government and Rio Tinto, a multinational mining corporation. In this joint venture, Mongolia retained a significant stake in the mines, with the government owning 34% of the project. This ensured that Mongolia benefited directly from the profits generated by the mine.
The joint venture led to significant investments in local infrastructure, including roads, power supply and water resources.
Peru is another example of a nation that has successfully engaged in joint ventures in the mining industry particularly in the case of the Las Bambas copper mine. This mine, operated by MMG Limited is a significant copper producer and highlights the advantages of state participation in mining.
State ownership would not only benefit Zambia but also strengthen the governments hand in negotiations with international creditors.

Agriculture and Food security

Increasing support for farmers and transforming Zambia into a net exporter of maize was another key component of the strategy. The PF government embarked on steady and increased support to small scale farmers through the FISP program that provided cheap seed and fertilizer. In turn the farmers played their role in ensuring the nation was food secure and began making inroads in exporting to neighboring countries.
Zambia could further learn from countries like Brazil and Argentina which have become major players in the global food market.
Brazil has implemented programs to support small-scale farmers. For instance. The National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture provides credit, technical assistance and access to markets for smallholders.

With the right policies, Zambia’s agriculture sector could potentially thrive, leading to economic growth and reduced debt.
Energy Independence and Exports

Zambia aimed to leverage its investments in energy from 2011-21 to become a net exporter of electricity in the region. This billion -dollar investment during this period, with further projects to come on stream has left us with an energy surplus, that will ensure we become key energy players in the years to come.

Ethiopia’s remarkable success in hydropower and energy exports serves as an inspiration. Ethiopia has pursued energy export agreements with neighboring countries. Excess energy generated from hydropower is being sold to Sudan, Djibouti and Kenya. This not only generates revenue but also fosters regional economic integration.

The country has also developed local expertise in dam construction, operation and maintenance. This not only saves costs but also ensures the sustainability of hydropower projects.

Artisanal Support for Mines

The PF planned to support local artisanal miners to play a bigger role in the mining industry. This included the provision of a ready market for their produce through the purchase by ZCCM-IH, Expanding provisions of licenses as well as promotion of joint ventures. Tanzania’s experience with artisanal mining showcases the potential for job creation and increased income for local communities. This initiative could foster economic growth at the grassroots level.
Tanzania’s approach to artisanal mining shows that with proper regulation, community engagement and taxation, small scale mining can be a significant contributor to the national economy and a driver for local development. By drawing inspiration from Tanzania’s success, Zambia was on a similar path, developing frameworks to support artisanal miners, stimulate local economies and promote sustainable mining practices.

Transition to a 24hr Economy

To accelerate economic growth, the plan was to turn Zambia into a 24hr economy. This idea takes inspiration from Singapore’s transformation into a global financial hub. Extending operating hours and creating a favorable environment for businesses will attract bot local and foreign investment and drive economic growth.

Zambia deserves better

THE PATRIOTIC FRONT PARTY’S BOLD DECISION TO SUSPEND MEMBERS: A PATH TO UNITY, HOPE, AND A PROMISING FUTURE

Lusaka, Zambia – October 22, 2023.

In a resounding move that has reverberated throughout the political landscape, the Patriotic Front Party, on October 22, 2023, today has made the courageous decision to suspend several of its members. This decision, while undeniably challenging, signifies a pivotal moment for both the party and the nation, offering a beacon of hope and the promise of a brighter future.

The suspension of members within a political party is never a decision taken lightly. However, in certain instances, it becomes necessary to uphold the core values and principles on which the party was founded. The Patriotic Front Party has long been renowned for its unwavering commitment to unity, patriotism, and dedicated service to the best interests of its citizens. In this spirit, the party’s leadership found it vital to address internal issues that were sowing division and discord.

The suspension of these members sends an unequivocal message that the party’s leadership is resolute in preserving its integrity and the very principles it stands for. This move not only reassures the party’s steadfast supporters but also conveys to the broader public that the Patriotic Front Party is willing to take the difficult steps necessary to uphold its mission.

It is of paramount importance to emphasize that this decision should not be misconstrued as an act of division, but rather as a stride toward fostering unity and harmony within the party. The party’s leadership is diligently working to resolve internal disputes and conflicts, assuring that the Patriotic Front continues to stand as a robust, united force committed to serving its citizens.

To reassure both party members and citizens, it is important to offer them a sense of hope for the future. While suspensions may bring about temporary turbulence, they also represent a commitment to upholding the party’s values and enhancing its internal functioning.

The Patriotic Front Party’s decision to suspend its members represents a courageous and necessary step toward preserving its values and upholding its commitment to unity and patriotism. By confronting internal issues head-on and working toward reconciliation, the party has the potential to emerge as a stronger, more united entity, better equipped to serve the citizens and the nation.

To the remaining members and citizens, it is important for the party’s leadership to maintain transparency in their actions and communications. Openly sharing the rationale behind the suspensions, the measures taken to resolve internal conflicts, and the vision for the party’s future will foster trust and understanding.

During these challenging times, it is imperative to remember that from adversity, unity, and hope, a brighter and more promising future can emerge. The Patriotic Front Party, through its resolute decisions today, has laid the groundwork for precisely that.

Painful to say it but I told you so. I said this government will run NAPSA down- Alexander Chiteme

Alexander Chiteme wrote;

Painful to say it but I told you so. I said this government will run NAPSA down.

NAPSA has liquidity problems now that all the money has been spent on a non practical political move to gratify a minority population at the expense of a solid pension establishment since time in Memory.

NAPSA now has been forced to cash up on most of its investments locally and we don’t know what is in the offing to its international assets.

In panic NAPSA has advertised most of its land and other assets and properties in key strategic areas a thing only seen under the new dawn Goverment.

What is sad is that most of this expenditure is done without following the constitution of the republic of Zambia which gives the power to the same officials of government, how do we explain the sale of a road for 25 years without the approval of parliament when the law requires a two thirds majority vote for such a decision to be passed. NAPSA is broke! Everything ma Sample nomba.

The new dawn government has dilapidated the constitution with impunity going against their very promises on the rule of law and the up holding of constitutional provisions.

The list of Violations is long and worrisome, it cuts across a very broad spectrum from Appointments to key constitutional appointments in all arms of the government.

Procurement of resources has become increasingly complicated and from a single source. Projects that are meant to help the very poor and vulnerable majority are being slowed down and destroyed, a once vibrant FISP program that was introduced by the MMD government under LPM with the single purpose of food security in the country is almost going into extinction with allocations going from 6 bags to a mada of fertilizer.

Farmers were promised market for soya beans in the spirit of crop diversification but today most small scale farmers including most commercial farmers have the crop and FRA is not buying.

SUPPLY OF DIESEL THROUGH TAZAMA PIPELINE, CHALENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

In July 2023, the Ministry of Energy offered opportunities to oil companies; Devon Oil Zambia Limited, Agro-Fuel Investments and Puma Energy Zambia PLC to supply Low Sulphur Gas Oil through the TAZAMA Pipeline for the months of September, October and November 2023.

DEVON OIL ZAMBIA LTD

On 22nd August 2023 Glencore Energy UK Ltd Director, Louise Bullen, wrote to Devon Oil Zambia to express interest to supply diesel to Zambia through Devon Oil. Glencore Energy offered 100million litres.

“We hope to be given the opportunity to discuss the terms of a potential supply of diesel during September 2023 through the port of Dar-es-Salaam.”

On 1st September, 2023 Devon Oil Zambia Managing Director, Mr. Chombe Gondwe accepted the partnership with Glencore Energy to supply fuel to Zambia in September 2023.He promptly submitted the assurances to the Ministry of Energy.

On 1st September 2023, Ministry of Energy offered a contract to Devon Oil Zambia to supply 100,000 metric tonnes of diesel within the stipulated period of September 2023 through the TAZAMA Pipeline. The Ministry was emphatic that Devon Oil Zambia was granted the approval but the authority would not extend beyond September 2023.
Devon Oil was were also reminded that the petroleum products must have a landed price below the Energy Regulation Board regulated wholesale price.

Devon proceeded to make arrangements with the TAZAMA and the pipeline was left free for the entire month of September to allow the company to use the period for importation of the commodity.

On 16th September, 2023 Devon Oil wrote to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy to inform them that Glencore had advised Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency of Tanzania about the nomination of Mt. Haima, an oil products tanker ship vessel, of its arrival dates between 26th September and 30 September 2023 at the Port of Dar-es-Salaam.

Devon also requested that the Energy Ministry in Zambia intervenes with authorities in Tanzania for the vessel Mt. Haima consigned by Glencore Energy UK ltd to be given priority berthing-a process of mooring a ship in its allotted place for it to discharge its cargo. This allocation had to be at a Single Point Mooring, a designated place to accommodate deep draft tankers while they transfer crude oil or petroleum products.

On 18th September, 2023, the Permanent Secretary wrote an urgent letter to the counterpart, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals in Tanzania requesting the Vessel, Mt. Haima, be given priority berthing during the laycan (a ship’s arrival window) of 26th September and 30th September 2023.

The Permanent Secretary emphasized that in Zambia’s national and security interests, it was important that the vessel bringing fuel for the month of September was granted priority access to port facilities.

On 21st September, 2023, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, acknowledged that Tanzania had given Zambia increased and speedy access to port facility following the conversion of TAZAMA Pipeline to carry finished products.
He however, informed Zambia that Tanzania was facing a critical fuel shortage and had made long-term planning and the State-owned oil enterprise-Petroleum Bulk Procurement System, had lined up vessels in priority for the month of September to berth in order attend to the fuel crisis in Tanzania.

He stated that in view of the above and due to a very short Notice given to the authorities by Zambia and market supply challenges in Tanzania, the vessel Mt. Haima from Glencore Energy UK could not be given priority berthing. He however stated that Tanzania would continue to assist the country on security of supply for the national interest of Zambia.
Fearing a shortage of fuel in the country, the Minister of Energy cancelled the offer and approval granted to Devon Oil Zambia on 1st September 2023 in which they were to supply Low Sulphur Gasoil by month-end. The Minister reminded Devon Oil that their supply was restricted to the month of September 2023 and the company had failed to fulfil the terms of the contract.

AGRO-FUEL INVESTMENTS

In 2022, after a public tender, Agro-Fuel Investments Ltd was awarded to supply and deliver 100,000metric tonnes of Low Sulphur Gas Oil and 15,000 metric tonnes to finalize the conversion of the TAZAMA Pipeline to become a carrier of finished products.
Agro-Fuel has since obtained further contracts to supply diesel to the Ministry of Energy.

Recently, Agro-Fuel were notified by TAZAMA that the company would be unable to use the pipeline during the month of September 2023 as the facility had been granted to Devon Oil Ltd to use it for their importation of petroleum products during the September 2023 period.
TAZAMA advised Agro-Fuels to reschedule the use of the pipeline to October 2023.

In September, 2023 Agro Fuels managed to secure berthing time for their vessels to discharge 100,000 metric tonnes of diesel on 25th October and 27th October, 2023.
PUMA ENERGY ZAMBIA PLC
On 21st September 2021, PUMA Energy proposed that it was capable of supplying fuel to Zambia through TAZAMA Pipeline at a competitive and fair price. PUMA stated that the company could supply diesel within a period of 20 days if there were no challenges at the Dar-es-Salaam Port.

Recently the Ministry of Energy had also written to Puma Energy to confirm that following the company proposal to supply 100,000metric tonnes of Low Sulphur Diesel as proposed in their letter dated 21st September 2023 and has requested PUMA Energy to reconfirm delivery dates for their diesel.

IS THE PIPELINE HELPING IN THE PRICE OF FUEL
Before the TAZAMA Pipeline came on board to transport finished products, the pump price of diesel was higher than petrol.

PRICES OF FUEL BEFORE PIPELINE CONVERSION

For example, in January 2023, the pump price for Petrol was at K24.49 but diesel was selling at K26.44, In February 2023, petrol was K27.22 while diesel was at K29.25 and in March 2023, Petrol was selling at K28.52 while diesel was selling at K29.25.

PRICES AFTER PIPELINE CONVERSION

In April 2023, the pump price of petrol was K27.59 while diesel fell to K26.28. In May 2023 petrol was selling at K27.59 and diesel at K24.64.

In June 2023, the price of diesel was at K24.45 while diesel fell to K21.87. In July diesel was at K24.93 while diesel remained at K21.87.

In August 2023, Petrol was at K25.57 while diesel was priced at K23.36. In September 2023, Petrol was selling at K29.42 while diesel was at K26.88.

In October 2023, petrol was at K29.98 while diesel was just about K29.96.
As shown above, the price of diesel has fallen remarkably down since the TAZAMA Pipeline came on board.

CONGO DR NEEDS GOOD LEADERSHIP- Fred M’membe

CONGO – DR NEEDS GOOD LEADERSHIP

Since the assassination of Patrice Lumumba the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has not had a leadership with a real vision for the DRC’s future, the competence and ability to execute the vision, and the character needed to ensure the realisation of the vision with sound judgment, integrity, and equity.

There’s urgent need to break from the DRC’s past patterns of poor leadership and governance. A clear and practical vision for the country’s future must be articulated and implemented. But this requires concerted effort from a new and energised leadership. This type of leadership should come from the Congolese people – both those living in the country and those who are part of its far-flung diaspora.

Sixty three (63) years after gaining its independence from Belgium, the DRC remains plagued by continuing governance challenges, corruption, insecurity, and widespread poverty.

State institutions are generally weak, and efforts to bring lasting peace and security have so far produced mixed results. While the western part of the country enjoys relative calm, violent conflict persists in much of the eastern DRC, perpetrated by armed militias, both domestic and foreign sponsored. Much of the instability and insecurity in the DRC is related to the mismanagement and plunder of the country’s natural resources.

That is why the coming DRC parliamentary and presidential elections in December will amount to nothing if they don’t help improve the quality of the country’s leadership.

And it will take concerted commitment from the Congolese, both inside and outside the DRC to implement and help the country choose the best possible leadership among those contesting the elections. The DRC needs a visionary, competent, and virtuous cadre of individuals who can lift up the rest
of the Congolese population through sound economic development policies and practices, adequate social services, and strong state institutions, leading to the establishment of a peaceful, just, secure, lawful, and orderly society.

We hold a very strong belief that among the contestants for DRC presidency, Mr Moise Chapwe Katumbi stands out. With the very limited possibilities that were there Mr Katumbi was able to bring in many areas of human endeavour, order, sanity, growth and development in Katanga when he served as governor.

We believe that armed with this extraordinary record, if Mr Katumbi wins the elections, he will help stabilise the DRC and give its people an opportunity to build a more just, fair, humane and peaceful country. But he will need the support of all DRC citizens of goodwill and our solidarity as neighbours.

We wish Mr Katumbi and Ensemble pour la Republique (Together for the Republic) victory in the December 20, 2023 polls!

LET MWIZUKANJI SURRENDER THE LITTLE GIRL TO THE FATHER AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

Let Mwizukanji surrender the Child to the father so that both Yo maps and MWIZUKANJi can concentrate to their marriages. What Mwizukanji should always know is that Yo maps is a happily married man and just like she is also a happily married woman.

This already makes them two different people where interpersonal relationship is concerned. The truth is that Yo maps cannot talk to Bukata without engaging MWIZUKANJi hence maybe that’s what You maps doesnt want.Bukata is still a child she can’t own a phone so that she can be communicating directly with the father hence the only possible communication between Yo maps and Bukata is through MWIZUKANJi and that possibly it could be the only way Yo maps can express his love and care to the little girl and the truth is that they may pretend but the relationship between Yo maps and Mwizukanji is still cold, one of them is failing to move on Yo maps would want to create a relationship with his child but he can’t access it because he is not in a good relationship with the intermediator.Lets not pretend here, every married man or woman would do the same thing Yo maps is doing to protect his current marriage.I really don’t know how the Husband to MWIZUKANJi is managing this drama, but the truth is that it’s not healthy for both families.

Most of you women here who are commenting and trying to put the blame on Yo maps for not creating a relationship with Bukata you know how hard it is for man married man to have that opportunity, Kidist is not an exceptional. Some of you can’t allow your husband’s to even talk to their Children born outside marriage. You are not different from Yo maps and Kidist.

Maybe you maps is even better coz he provides education support to the child, someone of you you can’t even remember the last time you last saw your child who was born outs!d€ marri@g€.

Let’s not h@te people for wanting to live their lives because we want to see them.

Zim Vice President Kembo Mohadi Airlifted After Sudden Collapse During Rally

VP Mohadi’s Shocking Collapse: Airlift Drama Unfolds at Election Rally
In a jaw-dropping turn of events, Vice President Kembo Mohadi was airlifted following a sudden collapse at an election rally in Gutu West, Zimbabwe.

This dramatic incident unfolded as he was addressing a campaign launch for the ruling party’s candidate, John Paradza. The sudden fall left rally attendees in shock and raised pressing questions about the health of one of the country’s vice presidents.

Airlifted for Urgent Medical Attention
Mohadi’s collapse was so sudden and severe that he had to be swiftly airlifted to an undisclosed medical facility.

According to The Standard, security agents immediately took action, rounding up journalists covering the event and instructing them to delete any photos of VP Kembo Mohadi’s collapse. The veil of secrecy surrounding his condition left many speculating about the cause.

Official Explanation Falls Short

In an attempt to downplay the incident, ZANU-PF’s secretary for security, Lovemore Matuke, claimed, “Surely there is no story. It’s sugar diabetes.”

However, this explanation did little to satisfy those who witnessed the event and were left baffled by the rapid turn of events.

The mystery surrounding Mohadi’s collapse and the subsequent evacuation deepened, leaving many wondering about the transparency and truthfulness of the official explanation.

Echoes of a Troubling Trend

The collapse of Vice President Mohadi has thrown a spotlight on the health of Zimbabwe’s top political figures and has revived concerns about their fitness for the roles they hold.

This incident is reminiscent of past health issues among Zimbabwe’s political elite, including the late President Robert Mugabe’s fall in 2015 and the collapse of ZANU-PF women’s league national secretary Shuvai Mahofa in 2014.

As the nation awaits further updates on Vice President Mohadi’s condition, questions loom about the well-being of those occupying the highest echelons of power in Zimbabwe. The incident has intensified the scrutiny on the health of the country’s political leaders and the level of transparency within the government.

AVRAM GRANT: Zambia Will Be Tough To Play Against at AFCON

AVRAM GRANT: Zambia Will Be Tough To Play Against at AFCON.

Chipolopolo Boys coach Avram Grant has said that Zambia will be tough to play against at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite being drawn in a difficult group with Morocco, Tanzania, and DR Congo.

Speaking to the media from the Chipolopolo base in Dubai, Grant said that Morocco is the best team in Africa, but Zambia is a good team as well and will be tough to beat.

“It’s a very tough draw but any draw is not so easy,” Grant said. “Morocco is the best team in Africa, they showed in the world cup, Congo DR is a very good team, Tanzania improving a lot, I saw them. So it’s tough to play against them but our target is it will be tough to play against us also.”

Zambia will face Morocco and Tanzania in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Grant said that drawing Morocco and Tanzania in both the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers is strange, but he is determined to get something from both games.

“It’s very very strange,” Grant said. “I don’t know what to say, this is what we get. We will try to do the best from it.”

Grant said that Zambia needs to prepare well for the AFCON, both on and off the pitch.

“We need to do a good preparation,” Grant said. “We need to arrange everything on the pitch and off the pitch. We need to learn on our mistakes. On the pitch there are lot of good things, off the pitch people are trying. But I think if we go to AFCON with good preparation it will be good, and preparation starts now.”

However, Grant said that Zambia will focus on building their own team rather than paying too much attention to their group opponents.

“What we try to do is to build our team of our own,” Grant said. “It’s not necessary to think about the opponent too much. And I think we are improving about this. I saw yesterday’s game, we played against the top team in Africa (Egypt), we created chances against them, we played well, and we showed that we have something to do. Even though we missed some key players (Zambia was missing the services of Italian-based winger Lameck Banda and Scottish-based defender Frankie Musonda due to injury), we still did well. With a little bit of luck, it could have been a different result. But it was a good test, and we showed that we can compete with any team.”

The AFCON tournament will kick off on January 13, 2023.

STATEMENT BY MDC ON THE OCCASION OF ZAMBIA’S 59TH INDEPENDENCE COMMEMORATION

Lusaka – 23rd October, 2023.

The Movement for Democratic Change MDC leadership and structures join the rest of Zambians in commemorating 59 years of Independence from colonial rule.

Over the years, we have made strides as a country in our political dispensation from colonialism into a one party state and now multi-partism anchored on respect for democratic tenets, an achievement not so many countries have scored.

Zambia’s 59th Independence commemoration under the theme “Accelerating National Development Through Equitable Distribution of Resources” is timely given the recent developments after the change of government in 2021.

As a political party, we want to commend government for actualizing decentralization through among other avenues, increase in the distribution of the Constituency Development Fund CDF and devolving some of the functions of government to local level.

Through these interventions, there is an increased distribution of resources to the grassroot and development expedited unlike the times that we had resources centrally managed. This distribution of resources to local level speaks greatly to this year’s independence theme.

Despite the decentralization of government’s resource envelope to local levels, we want to urge authorities in government to put stringent stop gap measures of any revenue leakages because where there is human interaction, there will always be individuals with dubious intentions to dupe the system.

Sealing all revenue leakage loopholes will be instrumental in our quest to accelerate national development in view of the equitable distribution of resources as already demonstrated by government.

We also want to urge Zambians to reflect on the 1964 independence struggle by our forefathers and freedom fighters and hold hands together to preserve this great opportunity of peace and development realized in Zambia.

As a country, we need to uphold our founding President, Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s motto of ‘One Zambia One Nation.’

At the moment, there is some level of despondency as a result of tribalism championed by a few elements who do not mean well to the country’s unity. It is our strong standing as a party that all Zambians must have a feeling of belonging to the country without being intimidated based on tribal or political lines. Unity and prosperity must remain key even as we commemorate 59 years of independence.

We therefore, wish every peace loving Zambian a happy independence and call on more people to join in our country’s political dispensation in order to have diverse voices of reason.
