LAMECK BANDA JOINS SERIE A LECCE FC

By Miles B. Sampa, MP (05.08.2022)

Agent Nir Karin has done it again for Zambia and for the first time, a Zambian player will play in the Italian Seria A league.

21 years old Lameck Banda has signed a 4 years contract at estimated fee of $2M with Lecce FC
that has just been promoted to Seria A league after ending as Champions last season in the Seria B (Division 2)

Karin discovered Lameck out of Zambian MTN league where he played for ZESCO FC and Buildcon FC where he was nursed into a football player as a young boy.

His first club international professional stint has been with Macebi Peterk FC in the Israel league that Karin uses as a springboard into the top class European leagues.

LAMECK BANDA

Lameck Is a deadly right and left winger that tormented defenders in the Isreal premier league scoring 8 goals last season to earn him eyes of Lecce FC (pronounced LetSe).
He has scored 4 goals for the Zambia 🇿🇲 nation team (Chipolopolo).

Lecce FC is renown for their best ever soccer product and Italian International player of many years Antonio Conte. He is now coaching Tottenham FC and was the head at Chelsea FC when they won the premier league some 4 years ago.

Congratulation Karin and congratulations Sonny Lameck Banda. We can watch Zambian players in both the English and Italian top notch leagues.

Over the weekend Boba crew met Karin and agreed an MOU to identify out of Matero Constituency (can be from anywhere in Zambia outside Matero) and connect the extra good players to him. He would then assess for possible contracts into European leagues like he has just done to Lameck Banda.

Lameck will be vying with rival player from likes of Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli, Legge and Jose Mourinho coached Roma FC.

Some of African Players in the past that enjoyed success in the Italian top league are George Weah (AC Milan), Abedi Pele (Torino), Samuel Eto (Inter), Mo Salah (Fiorentina), Mark Fish (Lazio) and Phil Masinga (Bari FC)

Thank you Karin🙏🏽 and Goodluck Sonny Lameck 🙌🏿

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold who earns £180,000 weekly reveals he still lives with his parents and does dishes

0

Despite winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup and earning a whooping £180,000, Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed he still lives with his parents and helps with chores at home.

Aged 23, Trent Alexander-Arnold has developed into one of Europe’s elite right-backs, and is arguably the best in the world at his position.

According to the player, being around family has helped him remain level-headed, knowing fully well many athletes in his position might prefer spending their wealth on cars, houses or entertainment.

He says the habits he learns helps keep his life “clean and healthy.”

“I always think young players rush things,” he told CNN Senior Sport Analyst Darren Lewis.

“You start getting paid some money and young players always think the first thing is to move out, get a new car, stuff like that.

“And then the environment is just not the same. You’re living at home. You’ve got your parents to keep you in line and make sure things are clean and tidy, the dishes aren’t stacking up and you’re going home to a nice, clean environment and things like that.

“Whereas living at home (on your own), breakfast and dinner, you just think: ‘I’ll do that later.’ And then you come in from training and then you’re just not in a clean, nice environment. So I’ve never felt a rush to leave home. I’ve always had the right messages.

“I’ve just always enjoyed having family around me. And they’ve kept my feet on the ground and pushed me to the levels that I’ve got so far. So I don’t think there’s any rush for me to make a decision.”

In his 161 appearances in the Premier League, he’s scored 10 goals, provided 45 assists and has a remarkable record of winning 114 games and only losing 19 times.

But despite that record, such has been the brilliance of Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool’s trophy winning has been halted.

Speaking about rivalry between Liverpool and Everton/Manchester United, he said;

“I think, historically, there’s always going to be that tension and the rivalries with Everton and with United. But I think right now, it’s for different reasons. I think there’s always going to be a dislike with Liverpool and Everton and Man United,” he said.

“It’s always going to be that no matter where either team finishes in the league, whenever it’s going on, there are always very heated games and both fans really want to win it the most. But I think for different reasons, now, Man City is the biggest game of season, the best team in England, one of, if not the, best team in the world as well.

“And, of course, they’re the team that set the pace, set the benchmark for the rest of the league. Four leagues in five years is something that not many teams can say we’ve done. So it’s difficult for us to look past them and look for anywhere else as motivation. Our motivation is if we stay in and around City, then over the last four or five years, you’re in a good place.”

Falsehoods Dismissed: Am Not Appointed Chief Electoral Officer At ECZ- McDonald Chipenzi

FALSEHOODS DISMISSED: AM NOT APPOINTED CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER AT ECZ

First let me thank you all that congratulated me through phone calls, WhatsApps, facebook and text massages for an appointment for a position of the CEO at ECZ that has NEVER been given to me.

Thank you for your confidence, trust, hope and help, relevance you have deposited in me such as position which i have not taken for granted.

Just for records as people like Max Chongu and his Manyinga Brother Daniel Bukali can start smoking fwaka yacika Lunda and Luvale respectively for unknown reasons and spread falsehoods in their intoxicated state kikki.

There has been widespread rumours that i have been appointed new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).I have not been APPOINTED CEO at ECZ

This is all falsehoods and must be DISMISSED with the contempt these falsehoods deserve.

For the sake of those who dont know how the CEO is recruited and appointed, this position is not a presidential appointed position.

It is a civil service appointment and the employment procedures in the civil service apply through the Commission.

The electoral Act guides that the Commission (ECZ) appoints Electoral officers to assist the CEO buttressed by the provisions of the Electoral commission of Zambia (ECZ) Act that empowers the Commission, as it may determine, appoint such other staff and officers of the Commission as are necessary for the purposes of this Act.

Section 9 (1) of Electoral Commission of Zambia No. 25 as amended by Act No 5 of 2019 guides that there SHALL be a CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER of the Commission who SHALL be APPOINTED by the Commission

The Chief Electoral Officer SHALL be the chief executive officer of the Commission, and subject to the general and specific directions of the Commission.

The Act prescribes the statutory duties and functions of the CEO as thus; the CEO shall be responsible for the daily administration and management of the Commission; be an ex-officio member of the Commission; and exercise the functions conferred upon the CEO by, or under, this Act.

*As can be seen, CEO at ECZ is a recruitee and appointee of the Commission and subservient to the direction, authority and control of the Commission.

It is the Commission through the Commissioners manages and conducts the elections and not the CEO while the CEO is responsible for the daily administration and management of the Commission.

As for as i know there has been no public advert for the vacant position of the CEO from ECZ or the Civil Service Commission.

Regrettably, the Commission has not yet been given Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson by the President to undertake such a task of the recruitment and appointment of the CEO.

There are only three ordinary Commissioners currently at the ECZ out of the required number of five (5) full-time Commissioners.

So for those who burn with strong to desire to see me at the ECZ, please hold your patience. It is not yet time and once any appointment comes, it will be public knowledge.

As of now, am firmly the Executive director of the Mighty well lubricated GEARS Initiative Zambia and also Chairperson for the Council of NGOs in Zambia.

Therefore, the rumors, speculations, innuendoes and congratulations are all false. Time not yet come for those congratulations.

I submit

Nullification of Malanji’s seat unfair and senseless

Nullification of Malanji’s seat unfair and senseless
By Diggers Editor

THE nullification of Honourable Joe Malanji’s election as Kwacha member of parliament is senseless and unfair in many ways. In the English language, there is a naughty expression which states that “The law is an ass”. When we look at the circumstances surrounding the nullification of Honourable Malanji’s seat, it is appropriate to say that in this case, the law has indeed proved to be an ass. Apart from being an affront to justice, this development, in the manner that it has occurred, presents a dilemma on the institution of Electoral Commission of Zambia and exposes serious flaws in its management of elections and the adoption process.

Honourable Malanji is not our darling. There are several areas where we have differences of opinion. In fact, we consider him a criminal suspect because there are a number of financial transactions his companies are involved in which he has not succeeded to explain. It is this newspaper that published the “Turkey Money Heist” headline where we alleged that Honourable Malanji, while serving as Foreign Affairs Minister, flew to Turkey with the Presidential challenger jet to collect money believed to have been sent to the Zambian Mission for purchasing an embassy building in that country. Not long after our story was published, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) jointly charged and arrested Malanji and former Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba for influencing the transfer of K154,201,197 to the Zambian mission in Turkey without following the law on Supplementary Expenditure as provided by Article 203 of the Zambian Constitution Act No. 2 of 2016.

Our point is that we are not Honourable Malanji’s praise singers or fanatics. But when the law is applied unfairly on him, we need to stand up and condemn the justice system for circumventing the delivery of justice. If Honourable Malanji’s election was nullified on grounds that he was involved in vote-buying (corruption), violence or any other related malpractice, we would not be saying what we are saying about his removal from parliament. But we have a problem with the way in which he has been treated.

According to the law as prescribed under Article 70(1)(d) of the Constitution, the minimum academic qualifications for a person wishing to contest the position of member of parliament is a grade twelve (12) Certificate. In order for that certificate to be considered valid, the Examinations Council of Zambia Director will write a letter to the Director at the Electoral Commission of Zambia, attesting to the fact that the applicant’s grade 12 certificate has been reviewed and confirmed to be legitimate. The Examinations Council will indicate the name, surname, National Registration Card and Examination number of the applicant to help the Electoral Commission in ascertaining that the individual applying to be on the ballot is the same person whose credentials have been certified.

When we read the ruling in Honourable Malanji’s case, especially from the dissenting position held by Justice Mungeni Mulenga, we see a problem that has been swept under the carpet. Justice Mulenga contends that the petitioner did not prove to the high standard the allegations that Honourable Malanji did not possess a grade 12 certificate. Justice Justice Mulenga did not agree with the high court’s decision to transfer the burden of proof to Mr Malanji when the petitioner was the one with the duty to prove his allegations. She said that in the case of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) which was the second respondent, and was expected to tender the documents (grade 12 school certificate) which Honourable Malanji had used to file his nomination, it was unfortunate that this was not done.

This is what we mean when we say that the Electoral Commission of Zambia has sacrificed Honourable Malanji for its own incompetence. It is clear to us that the Commission found itself in an awkward position and was not able to adduce the much needed document because had it been found to be valid, Honourable Malanji’s election would have been upheld, but at the same time, had it been found to be invalid, they would have found themselves guilty of admitting an unqualified candidate.

Our opinion is that an election petition based on qualification credentials should not be a matter for the winning candidate but the institutions charged with the responsibility of scrutinising and validating qualifications. It must be made clear in the law that once the Examinations Council and the Electoral Commission has endorsed your qualifications, you cannot be challenged after elections, otherwise the process of validating qualifications is useless.

It is expected that if the Electoral Commission has examined the documents supporting your qualification to contest the parliamentary seat, or indeed any other position, and validates those documents, then you are allowed to contest elections. If contesting elections after the Commission has validated your qualifications can be against the law, then the law is in fact, a big ass.

What this nullification of election does is that it confirms that the Electoral Commission of Zambia is a porous institution which takes instructions from politicians. It has confirmed that the Commission bends towards the demands of political candidates who have some form of power – political or financial. This is an embarrassing development to the Commission and our brothers and sisters who work there must not walk tall after this. They should be ashamed that they failed to do their job and they have used the court process to punish someone else for their incompetence.

In our view, it is only fair that Honourable Malanji recontests the seat in Kwacha, and wins the election. We say this because the nullification of his election was a waste of time and public resources. This will be a by-election which could have been avoided if the Commission did its job. This would have been avoided if those appointed to manage elections were firm and operated autonomously. Shame on ECZ!

I’ve run my race, it’s right time for me to step aside – Nshindano

I’ve run my race, it’s right time for me to step aside – Nshindano

By Kombe Mataka

I HAVE done my part, says outgoing ECZ chief electoral officer Patrick Nshindano.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) yesterday announced the “mutual separation” of Nshindano from the ECZ effective August 7.
According to statement issued by ECZ public relations manager Patricia Luhanga, the agreement between ECZ and Nshindano was reached at a meeting held on August 2, 2022.

“Mr Nshindano served the Commission since August 2019 has been instrumental in a number of innovations that have seen the commission transform and deliver credible elections, “ said Luhanga. “The commission would like to advise all electoral stakeholders and the general public that it will notify them of consequent appointments once these are effected.”
And Nshindano told The Mast that running an election was not an easy undertaking.

“Why the mutual separation? I think, firstly it is just the realisation that I have done my part. I did joined the commission almost three years ago and I was scheduled to have a new contract but I
decided not to, mutually… We thought that I have run my race. We have been able to achieve and have a very successful election as a country.

I think I now need to move on to another chapter. And I am quite excited for the prospects that the future holds. But also to be able to give chance as you know, we are going to have new leadership
and the new leadership will have its own thinking of how things should be done.”

Nshindano said at the centre of the decision was to make sure that the ECZ won at the end of the day.
“This institution is extremely a critical institution. It must be guarded jealously and that we need to ensure that it succeeds and remains independent. It remains autonomous in the way it functions
and we hope that even the new government, administration, will accord it the required support,” he said.
Nshindano said this was key to enhance and build on what he and his team achieved.

“So I have run my race and we have mutually agreed that it is the right time for me to step aside,” he said.
Nshindano, whose contract comes to an end this month, described his stint at ECZ as a great achievement.
“Not just for me but I can also attribute to the country and the team that I had at the commission who were supportive of what we were doing. It is not easy to run an election. I always tell people. It is easy to comment when you are outside,” he said. “The ruling government will always look at you as anti-government, the opposition will also think you are working with the ruling party.
So you are basically that orphan. The only thing you have if you are spiritual, your God. In my case as a Christian but also what is the mandate giving to you as prescribed in the Constitution. You
apply it whether or not…”

Nshindano thanked Zambians for the opportunity to serve and the support given during his tenure.
On the pressure faced to announce the August 12, 2021 election results coupled with some of the social jokes, Nshindano said “to the public it was unnerving.”

“But inside it is not as unnerving because
you have the information with you. You know how the process is running. I think the only anxiety comes in when you are saying and
hoping citizens will remain calm so that basically the anxiety does not escalate,” he said. “You need to manage it. Internally we knew how the process was running and we knew very well that we would deliver the results by a given timeframe of 72 hours which we were able to beat to 68 [hours] and things were moving internally like a well-oiled engine. Of course from an external perspective that is where the problem is.

You need to manage that.”
Nshindano added that “I also need to go and spend a little time with my children.
I have little children.”
He said he was proposing electronic voting to enhance transparency, credibility and “reduce accusations that come around as a result of anxiety”.

We don’t have integrity in courts, charges Malanji

We don’t have integrity in courts, charges Malanji

By Darious Kapembwa

JOSEPH Malanji has lashed out at the Constitutional Court saying people will lose confidence in the courts following nullification of his election yesterday on grounds that the former Kwacha PF member of parliament did not have a grade 12 school certificate.
He has vowed to recontest the seat and win adding that he would also take the nullification of his election to the Judicial Complaints Commission.

The Constitutional Court upheld the nullification of Malanji’s election as Kwacha member of parliament bringing the number of annulled polls on the Copperbelt to two after the court last week nullified the election of Bowman Lusambo as Kabushi PF member of parliament.
Reacting to the development, Malanji charged that the nullification of his election was an attack on democracy.

“This is how you can see that we no longer have courts. We don’t have integrity in the courts. This will force people to lose confidence in the courts,” Malanji charged. “The same court ruled in the case of Nkunika versus Nyirenda that matters of eligibility do not count after seven days. Yet the same court nullifies my seat under similar circumstances. By this ruling, the court has rendered article 52 which says matters of eligibility brought seven days after filling do not stand. I will recontest the seat and definitely win it. But I will take this matter to the JCC even if they don’t act on it, at least it will be on record and this is a challenge on you journalists to check the conduct of the courts.”

He wondered why the seat was nullified on account of a grade 12 certificate when the same was produced in court further alleging that the petitioner [losing UPND candidate Charles Mulenga] never produced any document to suggest otherwise.

The Constitutional Court has affirmed the decision of High Court judge Kazimbe Chenda to declare Joseph Malanji’s election as Kwacha Constituency PF member of parliament void for not possessing a grade 12 certificate during his re-election

Constitutional Court vice-president Margaret Munalula on behalf of the majority ruled that judge Chenda cannot be censured for determining Malanji’s eligibility to contest in the August 12, 2021 general elections as he did not possess the requisite academic qualification when filing in nomination papers in line with Article 70(1)(d) of the Constitution.

She said Malanji had a chance to prove that he had the school certificate (Form 5) at the time of his re-election but did not do so neither is there evidence on the record of appeal.
Judge Mungeni Mulenga has dissented the decision of the majority.

Basketball star Brittney Griner sentenced to 9 years imprisonment after jury finds her guilty of smuggling cannabis pen
On Thursday, August 4, a Russian court found WNBA player Brittney Griner guilty of bringing illegal narcotics into the country and sentenced her to nine years in prison.

Since her detention more than five months ago at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, where customs authorities allegedly found vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage, the two-time Olympian and Phoenix Mercury player has been imprisoned abroad. She was charged with purposefully bringing drugs into the nation, where it is prohibited to consume marijuana either for medical or recreational purposes.

Griner pleaded guilty in July to possessing the substance but has also maintained that she did not mean to break the law, telling authorities that she mistakenly put the cannisters in her suitcase as she rushed to pack for her return to Russia, where she plays for the UMMC Ekaterinburg basketball team during the WNBA’s offseason.

Griner’s lawyer, Maria Blagovolin, also noted that Griner was prescribed medical cannabis two years ago to treat severe chronic pain and presented a doctor’s note in court as proof. Blagovolin last month also provided a series of tests the American athlete received as part of an anti-doping check, none of which turned up any banned substances in her system.

The court “found the defendant guilty” of smuggling and possessing “a significant amount of narcotics”, judge Anna Sotnikova told a court in the town of Khimki just outside Moscow. The player was also fined one million rubles ($16,300).

US President Joe Biden was quick to condemn the verdict, calling it “unacceptable” and renewing his calls for the player’s release

“We will continue to use every possible avenue to bring Brittney and Paul Whelan home safely as soon as possible,” he said, referring to another American imprisoned in Russia on an espionage conviction.

Sotnikova had said on Thursday that Griner committed the crime “deliberately”. But Griner had testified during the trial it was a mistake.

Since her arrest, Griner’s relatives, teammates and supporters have been calling on the US government to put its full weight behind the case to push for her release.

Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) star, was arrested at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport on February 17, a week before Russia invaded Ukraine, when she entered the country with vape canisters containing cannabis oil.

“I never meant to hurt anybody, I never meant to put in jeopardy the Russian population, I never intended to break Russian law,” Griner said through a translator while standing in the metal cage reserved for defendants in Russian courtrooms. She apologised to her family, teammates, and her spouse

Griner’s lawyers said they plan on appealing the verdict, accusing the court of ignoring the evidence presented by the defence.

“Taking into account the amount of the substance – not to mention the defects of the expertise – and the plea, the verdict is absolutely unreasonable,” her defence team said in a statement.

John Legend ends friendship with Kanye West for supporting Trump and running for US presidency

0

John Legend ended his friendship with Kanye West over his 2020 White House bid and support of former President Donald Trump.

Legend said they couldn’t remain friends because “we publicly disagreed on his running for office and supporting Trump.”

Speaking on CNN’s “The Axe Files” podcast with David Axelrod, the singer-songwriter said they are no longer “friends as much as we used to be.”

Legend added that West didn’t appreciate the lack of support he received from loved ones while on the campaign trail. He said;

“He was upset that I didn’t support his run for presidency of the United States of America — for understandable reasons.”

The singer further said the brotherhood was straining for him. “I think it became too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly,” he said.

Legend added;

“Like, he’s been pretty upfront with his opinions, his struggles, all the things that he’s dealing with. And I think what you see with him is pretty much what you get.”

The “All of Me” artist avidly supported President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2020 presidential election, speaking publicly and performing at their inaugural concert.

Although the singer actively voices his political views, he does not see a political career in his future anytime soon. He also enjoys making a difference politically and philanthropically through organizations he works with.

Legend said;

“I do not want to run for office. I definitely don’t want to do it now. I don’t envision myself wanting to do it in the future.

“I feel like I’m able to make a big impact through the work that I’m doing, and I like the way that I’m doing it now.”

West heavily supported Trump while he was in office, wearing “Make America Great Again” hats and visiting him in the Oval Office.

The rapper believed by ‘trusting God’ he could lead American politics, furthermore announcing his 2020 presidential campaign on Twitter under the Birthday Party, according to the Hill.

DONT TEMPT ME- Miles Sampa

DONT TEMPT ME…

By Miles B. Sampa, MP

A Mr Chanda Nonde who is campaign manager to one of the PF Presidential candidate has ‘zandad’ (extremely furious) because I stated what I saw at the Mongu toll gate which was a makeshift looking setup operating 24 hrs without due security. He states Mansa and Kasama toll gates are similar and I should have not stated my observation of the Mongu one.

Maybe to some extent that’s why the PF Vote in Mansa and Kasama was not to expectations aswell. Constant justification of what was failed to be justified pre last elections reminds me of the proverbial Ostrich burying its head in the sand. Mongu, Mansa and Kasama Toll Gates should have and must be upgraded as they represent Provincial capitals.

When and if I become power hungry in PF (as he implies ), a very big announcement will be made but for now no need for Mr Chanda Nonde and your Boss or Bosses to be defensive or jump up and down each time I make some observation on any topic of national interest.

We are are far from next general elections and we should spend current time introspecting. If you and others believes in opposition politics of Only criticising government and continue to Praise past government even where they might have gone wrong, the we different. I praise any action pro people be it from government or oppositon and also criticize anything that does not benefit ordinary people and Zambia in general be it from the ruling government or from opposition.

You keep using same innuendos that failed to prevent me from becoming Mayor or MP of Matero. I did not go to Mongu to go point and praise projects that PF may have done or not done. The Mongu toll gate caught my attention as first of its kinds away from classy ones that I have seen in Chongwe, Choma, Shimabala, Chisamba, Serenje, Copperbelt etc.

I drove 9 hours in the night to Mongu on my biblical beliefs to visit people that I know and are now in prison. Regardless of the alleged crime committed, anyone that calls themselves PF knows Mumbi Phiri and Shebby Chilekwa. Seeing them smile be it for minute upon seeing me inside their prison made my day.

My calling now is Ubuntu projects while you may keep jostling for the PF presidency. The sudden feeling of entitlement to the PF by some that even got it lose last year is most worrying. Only them or who they support and not any other person should dream of the PF throne.

Meantime instead of selling your declared and preferred choices, you busy attacking a non declared person. Your constant jabs at me may however leave me with no choice but come out for the PF Convention if I continue to feel your your voices are lonely and preferred choices are not supported by the majority grassroots bonafide membership of PF.

Don’t tempt me please. I am enjoying my Ubuntu projects and for now wish it to stay that way.

Loss of Kabushi seat a big blow to us – Kampyongo

0

By Fanny Kalonda

SHIWANG’ANDU PF member of parliament Stephen Kampyongo says the former ruling party’s loss of the Kabushi seat in Ndola is a big blow.
And Kampyongo says it is shocking that people are accusing the PF of formulating and distributing pornographic videos depicting DEC director general Mary Chirwa.

Featuring on Diamond TV’s Diamond live programme on Monday, Kampyongo said Bowman Lusambo had done well in representing the people of Kabushi.

“I must say it was a big blow. Speaking first of all as PF whip in Parliament and also as a member of central committee, it was a big blow to all us PF members in parliament. And it was a big blow to the party as well,” he said. “Why? Because honourable Lusambo has been a people’s representative in Kabushi and we expected that he would run the term. We were all petitioned. I think all the 60 members of parliament were petitioned. And I think you have seen some cases ending up at the Constitutional Court. So, we will respect the decision of the court.”

Kampyongo however expressed relief that other election nullifications by the High Court were not upheld by the Constitutional Court.
“But we were devastated. We had a relief though, 24 hours later that the two judgments that came out were in favour, of our current member of parliament for Kamfinsa. Christopher Kang’ombe was confirmed as being the duly elected member of parliament for Kamfinsa and that brought a sigh of relief for us. Similarly, the upholding of the election of Christopher Shakafuswa as duly elected member of parliament for Mandevu also brought a lot of relief to us,” he said. “And we will listen to the people of Kabushi because I think that honourable Lusambo has done his best in representing the people of Kabushi. He has worked with them. First, I would like to commend the senior members of central committee and members of parliament who took time to go and give solidarity to honourable Lusambo when he went back to tell the people what transpired in the Constitutional Court.”

Kampyongo said although Lusambo has offered to recontest, the party would follow its normal adoption process.
“Honourable Lusambo has offered himself but the processes will have to still be followed – the process of adopting candidates that was designed by the party will be followed. He has got every right to indicate his availability. And that in itself is not a problem, is acceptable. But that’s not to say that they won’t go through this process,” he added.

And Kampyongo said the party has acknowledged its shortcomings when in power, adding that issues of violence are not just one sided as it takes two to tango.

“…wanting to look at the degree of how these matters were acted upon, and the conclusions of the violence, I mean it’s two to tango. And like I’ve said it’s not about, you know, that we lost our colleague during the elections – was killed at a polling station. You understand? So, I don’t know if that gets to be partisan, though. Do you understand? Electing a leader, you end up losing a life as we did! It’s something that I think we need to look at, from the policy point of view,” he said. “Violence, corruption, are things that we have had in this country and I think it would be unfair to say that this is the person that has been found wanting. You need to look at the degree at which these things were adjudicated upon by the court and the conclusions of the court. This violence, you know, it takes two to tango and we also have a colleague we lost during the election who was killed in cold blood at the polling station. I wonder if that case had to be petitioned how it had ended. If when choosing a leader, we have to lose someone… I think this is something we need to look at from the holistic point of view. But that is not to say that where violence activities… it’s human to acknowledge some of these shortcomings. But like I said, you need to look at the holistic picture. What caused that because it takes two to tango. It takes two to tango. I don’t think when campaigning to be elected, you go to beat people, and they can elect, you understand?”

Meanwhile, Kampyongo defended the PF from public perception that they authored and distributed pornographic videos depicting Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) director general Mary Chirwa fondling herself.
He said no one was blamed when a PF colleague’s videos went viral on social media.

“First of all, I can only comment with a heavy heart. Those are matters that no one would want to really get to discuss because of the effects they have. We as the Patriotic Front brought the law, the cyber security law, to partly deal with some of those activities. Be it bullying, be it circulation of pornographic materials. And why, because of some of the incidents that occurred in the past. You recall that there was a student at some college who was dragged to court and prosecuted. Remember that there were no sufficient laws,” he said in apparent reference to former ZICAS student Iris Kaingu’s sex video that went viral in 2011. “And we had unfortunately, another very difficult for me to even talk about because it involved a colleague (former education minister David Mabumba), was being scammed by some foreign elements. You understand? Difficult time I still can vouch for the gentleman that he was a hardworking, a very committed member of parliament, and hardworking member of the cabinet. It was sad that we had to lose him in the manner that we lost him. He had to pick up pieces and we kept praying for him. Again, this is not the first time this is happening. But it’s so shocking that people would start apportioning blame. How does PF come in? I don’t think when we dealt with our colleague, as difficult as it is to talk about, no one was blamed. Because that scam that our friend went through, was extended to many people including some of us, because they were sending those messages, and all those kinds of thing. What benefit would the PF have?”

Zim opposition party leader Linda Masarira petitions President HH over Mumbi Phiri’s detention without trial

Zimbabwe opposition party Labour Economists and African Democrats Zimbabwe (LEAD) president Linda Masarira has written to President Hakainde Hichilema demanding the end to the detention of Mumbi Phiri without trial.

Masarira says Mumbi’s continued detention is totally unacceptable and a violation of her fundamental human rights.

“Sadly, it seems power has also consumed you that you have forgotten so early your promises to the people. You deceived the world, by claiming that you would adhere to human rights without fear or favour.

“The murder charge slapped on MUMBI PHIRI is trumped up, frivolous and vexatious with no tangible evidence to secure a conviction. Politically motivated charges meant to punish, silence and instill fear should be condemned by all. Mumbi is just a fierce and resolute politician who doesn’t deserve this inhumane treatment from a so called new dawn government,” she said.

Masarira writes:

Dear President Hakainde Hichilema

The unlawful detention of Ambassador Mumbi Phiri former MP and PF Deputy Secretary General is totally unacceptable and a violation of her fundamental human rights.

Sadly, it seems power has also consumed you that you have forgotten so early your promises to the people. You deceived the world, by claiming that you would adhere to human rights without fear or favour.

The murder charge slapped on MUMBI PHIRI is trumped up, frivolous and vexatious with no tangible evidence to secure a conviction. Politically motivated charges meant to punish, silence and instill fear should be condemned by all.

Mumbi is just a fierce and resolute politician who doesn’t deserve this inhumane treatment from a so called new dawn government.

An attack on Mumbi Phiri is an attack on all female politicians in the world.

As the President of Labour Economists and African Democrats Zimbabwe, I stand with Mumbi Phiri and demand justice for her. I demand the new dawn government to take Mumbi Phiri to court as soon as possible if at all they have corroborating evidence that incriminate her in the murder of Lawrence Banda. If they don’t, they should absolve her of any wrong doing and discharge her.

An injury to one woman is an injury to all Mr. President. As a man who suffered illegal detentions, we expect you to be the change that Zambia has been waiting for.

Incarcerating political opponents to settle political scores is archaic, retrogressive and will leave your legacy with a dent. Why are you abusing human rights Mr Hichilema? Mumbi is a wife, mother, sister and aunt who has family responsibilities.

In conclusion, Mr President please release Mumbi Phiri and allow a fair trial to commence.

Kenyans go to the poll in the next four day

KENYA TO ELECT A NEW PRESIDENT

Kenyans go to the poll in the next four days, reports Political Blogger Yona Musukwa.

As students of politics, development activists and Pan Africanists, we are keenly following the events as they unfold.

As Pan Africanists, Kenya is us, and we are Kenya. If Kenya wins, we win.

A few quick observations from afar are that Kenya, like many other African countries, still suffer from very tribal and elitist politics.

These two tendencies are colonial hangovers. History teaches us that religion, tribalism and elitism was extensively used to divide Africans to perpetuate Africa’s colonisation.

As students of politics, we have seen that the 9th August election is a two horse race, between elitist Raila Odinga and hustler William Ruto.

Between the two, I am supporting William Ruto. I agree with Ruto on so many fronts;

1.William Ruto’s manifesto is a well researched, practical and realistic document.

The manifesto is correctly promising an economic revolution – Bottom Up Economics – an economy that grows from the bottom up and expands the middle class.

This is superior economic logic, unlike the imperialist economic prescriptions of top down economics, where we are cheated that we need FDI to make a lot of money exploiting our natural resources, then we benefit from crumbs falling off their dinner tables.

Those who have paid attention to development economics know that this is nonsensical, It has never worked anywhere in the world.

2. Raila Odinga is too elitist. No ideological standing apart from being privileged and having money.

I dislike elitist tendencies, and their deputy white tendencies of thinking their are superior and clever blacks.

3. Raila Odinga’s close proximity to imperialist forces is also a big turn off. Africa doesn’t need puppet governments if we have to attain economic independence in our life time. What we need is equal and fair relationship with the west – win/win.

4. Ruto is roaring for the poor at the bottom of the economy, who he correctly calls Hustlers. Anyone who roars for the oppressed and historically disadvantaged masses is a comrade of mine.

Therefore, Raila Must Fall!

Good luck to all the Kenyans!

Class Dismissed!

US politician, Jackie Walorski and two of her aides killed in a car crash

0

US Representative Jackie Walorski, a Republican from Indiana’s 2nd district, has been killed in an automobile accident.

According to multiple local news outlets Ms Walorski died following a crash in Elkhart County at 12.32 pm local time on Wednesday, August 3. Walorski District Director Zachery Potts, 27, and her Communications Director Emma Thomson, 28, also died in the two-car collision.

Their deaths were confirmed by the sheriff’s office in a Facebook post. “A northbound passenger car traveled left of center and collided head on” with Walorski’s vehicle, the sheriff’s office wrote. The driver of that car was also killed.

“Devastated to hear the horrible news of the passing of Jackie Walorski and her two staffers,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., tweeted. “She was a dear friend who loved serving the people of Indiana in Congress.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was traveling in Asia, ordered the flags at the Capitol to be flown at half-staff in honor of Walorski and her staffers, her spokesman said.

A lifelong Hoosier, Congresswoman Walorski lived a life of service: whether caring for impoverished children in Romania, representing her community in the Indiana Statehouse or serving nearly a decade in the House,” Pelosi said in a statement. “She passionately brought the voices of her north Indiana constituents to the Congress, and she was admired by colleagues on both sides of the aisle for her personal kindness.”

The White House said it will fly flags at half-staff on Wednesday and Thursday in memory of Walorski.

According to the news stations, Ms Walorski’s vehicle was struck head-on by a driver who crossed over into oncoming traffic; the driver of that vehicle died as well.

The Indiana Republican served on the House Ethics Committee and was considered a potential contender for a future leadership position, having in the past served on the team of Minority Whip Steve Scalise.

President Joe Biden offered his condolences in a statement Wednesday, saying that he and first lady Jill Biden were “shocked and saddened” when they heard about the car crash.

“Jill and I are shocked and saddened by the death of Congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana along with two members of her staff in a car accident today in Indiana. Born in her beloved South Bend as the daughter of a meat-cutter and firefighter, she spent a lifetime serving the community that she grew up in – as a journalist, a nonprofit director, a state legislator, and eventually as a Member of Congress for the past nine and half years,” said Mr Biden.

“We send our deepest condolences to her husband, Dean, to the families of her staff members, Zachery Potts and Emma Thomson, who lost their lives in public service, and to the people of Indiana’s Second District who lost a representative who was one of their own,” added the president.

Johny Depp’s former girlfriend Ellen Barkin says he gave her drugs before asking for sex

0

Johnny Depp’s former girlfriend, actress Ellen Barkin, claimed the actor gave her drugs the first time they slept together in deposition testimony that was revealed as part of the 6,000 pages of pre-trial documents recently unsealed in Depp’s lawsuit against Amber Heard.

Barkin, 68, sat down for the deposition in 2019 and answered questions about her past relationship with Depp, which she said lasted several months and ended after the pair finished filming Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in 1997.

Barkin said that she and Depp were friends before their relationship became sexual, and she testified about the first time the actor expressed his interest in taking their platonic relationship towards a physical direction.

“He came on to me in the living room of my house, pulled me onto his lap and said something like, ‘Oh, come on Ellen,’ or whatever. I protested a little and then — not too much,” she stated. “And that was that.”

When asked to clarify her remarks about how she “protested,” Barkin said that Depp did not assault her, but claimed, “He gave me a Quaalude and asked me if I wanted to f**k.”

Methaqualone, or brand name Quaalude, is a central nervous system depressant that acts as a sedative and hypnotic.

Much of Barkin’s deposition was played in court during the defamation trial, however, her claim that Depp gave her a Quaalude was not included evidence presented to the jury.

In her deposition, Barkin stated that, at the beginning of their relationship, Depp, “was loving… He seemed like someone who took care of the people around him.” Additionally, she said that Depp was “truly lovely with my children.”

However, she testified that the actor “was drunk all of the time… [or] most of the time,” and claimed that he was a “red wine drinker.” She also claimed that Depp used drugs frequently while she knew him, including hallucinogens, and claimed that Depp once “called me and told me he was tripping.”

Apart from the alleged use of drugs and alcohol, Barkin further alleged that there was “always an air of violence” around Depp. “He’s a yeller. He is verbally abusive,” she stated. “There was just a lot of yelling. A lot of yelling.”

One instance that stood out in her mind was when Depp threw a wine bottle in a hotel room in Las Vegas while shooting Fear and Loathing. Barkin testified that she was supposed to be in Las Vegas for just a few days while shooting her scene, but stayed for two weeks to be with Depp.

During that time, he allegedly threw a bottle in a heated moment, but it wasn’t directed toward her. She stated that their relationship ended shortly thereafter when she told Depp she was going to go back home to Los Angeles and he got angry and “jealous.”

“He’s just a jealous man, controlling; ‘Where are you going? Who are you going what? What did you do last night?'” Barkin claimed. “I had a scratch on my back that got him very, very angry because he insisted it came from me having sex with a person who wasn’t him.”

According to her deposition, she only spoke with Depp once since she left him in Las Vegas, and that was when they ran into each other at the Cannes Film Festival over a decade later.

“He called me from across the room. He brought me a glass of champagne. We sat on the steps and spoke and I told him how awful he had treated me and he was clearly making some kind of sexual move,” Barkin stated.

Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard in March 2019 after the Washington Post published an op-ed she wrote about being the victim of domestic violence. Depp’s name was not mentioned in the article, however, the story came out as their contentious 2016 divorce continued to make news headlines. After a six-week trial, Depp won the case after the jury’s verdict fell primarily in Depp’s favor and he was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.

China fires long-range missiles towards Taiwan in aggressive military exercises

0

China has launched a flurry of missiles into Taiwanese territory, with a fleet of 10 People’s Liberation Army navy warships arriving the median line that separates the warring nations.

Chinese defence ministry also said its Red Army is gearing up to respond to an “enemy situation” as it carries out targeted military drills in patches of the ocean surrounding the self-ruled island.

China engaged in its largest-ever military exercises, encircling Taiwan on Thursday August 4, in a show of force straddling vital international shipping lanes after a visit to the island by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

China fires long-range missiles towards Taiwan in aggressive military exercises

Pelosi left Taiwan on Wednesday August 3, after a trip that defied a series of stark threats from Beijing, which views the self-ruled island as its territory.

Second in line to the presidency, Pelosi was the highest-profile elected US official to visit Taiwan in 25 years.

She said her presence made it “unequivocally clear” that the United States would “not abandon” a democratic ally like Taiwan.

It sparked a furious reaction from Beijing, which vowed “punishment” and announced military drills in the seas around Taiwan, some of the world’s busiest waterways.

“Six major areas around the island have been selected for this actual combat exercise and during this period, relevant ships and aircraft should not enter the relevant waters and airspaces,” state broadcaster CCTV reported.

Beijing later said announced that it conducted “precision missile strikes” in the Taiwan Strait.

“Long-range armed live fire precision missile strikes were carried out on selected targets in the eastern area of the Taiwan Strait,” the Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army, the ruling Communist Party’s military wing, said in a statement on its social media platform.

“The expected outcome was achieved,” it added. No other details were given.

The exercises will take place in multiple zones around Taiwan, at some points within just 20 kilometers (12 miles) of the island’s shore, and will conclude at midday on Sunday.

The Dongfeng is Beijing’s flagship family of short, medium, intermediate-range and intercontinental ballistic missiles – many of which can carry nuclear and conventional payloads – that can wipe out entire cities in a milisecond.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Defence has confirmed China had launched several Dongfeng missiles into waters around the northeast and southwest of the island.

Taiwan’s defense ministry said it was closely watching the drills and that the island was prepared for conflict, but would not seek it.

“The Ministry of National Defence stresses that it will uphold the principle of preparing for war without seeking war, and with an attitude of not escalating conflict and causing disputes,” it said in a statement.

Taiwan has described the exercises as “an irrational move to challenge the international order.”

Taiwan officials have said the drills violate United Nations rules, invade Taiwan’s territorial space and are a direct challenge to free air and sea navigation.

China is conducting drills on the busiest international waterways and aviation routes and that is “irresponsible, illegitimate behaviour,” Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) said.

In Fuzhou, eastern China, multiple civilian sources reported seeing the PLA’s helicopters and airmen taking off from Pingtan Island and soaring towards Taiwan.

China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory and reserves the right to take it by force, said its differences with the self-ruled island were an internal affair.

Manchester United’s transfer window is becoming an ’embarrassement’, Club legend, Gary Neville blasts

0

Gary Neville has described Manchester United’s transfer window as an ’embarrassment’ in an explosive interview.

Manchester United have been slow in transfer dealings with Chelsea confident of beating their Premier League rivals to the signing of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, despite United’s three-month pursuit of the Dutch midfielder.

Speaking on the Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet, Neville accused the club of making the same ‘old failings’ as the De Jong saga continues to drag on.

He said: ‘I would go back to Ten Hag and say I think he’s had a really impressive start, a confident start… and he’s not been supported off the pitch by an operation that can get him the players he wants.

‘If you said to me two months ago that Manchester United would have Fred and McTominay in midfield and we would have Martial up front – who every Manchester United fan and coach had written off as being leaving…

‘I’d say that the manager has been given a pretty tough hand. All these clubs – Chelsea, they bring Raheem Sterling in. City bring in Erling Haaland, Darwin Nunez goes to Liverpool. And then you’ve got Manchester United who basically can’t get a player through the door.’

Neville questioned the success rate of players who move to the Premier League from the Dutch Eredivisie – and admitted all United fans were ‘tired’ of drawn-out transfer pursuits of players, like Jadon Sancho.

He added: ‘The old failings seems to be there, in terms of not being able to get anything over the line.

‘Every Manchester United fan is a little bit tired of us. I said this about Sancho and it’s the same now with De Jong – it gets to the point where a signing that should be an excitement for the club drags on that long that actually in the end you actually lose excitement for the signing, it almost becomes a little bit of an embarrassment.

So far, United have signed centre back Lisandro Martinez from Ajax, left back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, and Christian Eriksen on a free transfer from Brentford.

I am Going Back To Kwacha, Will Be Back – Joseph Malanji

0

By Nelson Zulu

LOSING Kwacha Constituency Member of Parliament Joseph Malanji says he will back to parliament and continue serving the people in the constituency after he wins the by-election yet to be announced.

Malanji whose seat was nullified by the High Court on the basis that he did not have a Grade 12 Certificate and the same ruling upheld by the Constitutional Court, Wednesday, said it was unfortunate that he got such a ruling from the Constitutional Court.

“The whole accusation is just speculation, I want to congratulate judge Mungeni Mulenga for upholding the rule of law, it is very unfortunate that we can get such a ruling from the ConCourt because even when I was going to file in my nomination, I had all the necessary documents, I had my Grade 12 (certificate), I had all the documents required by the Commission (ECZ), so it is very unfortunate that we can get a ruling of this nature from the ConCourt, but one thing I can assure you is that we shall go back to the constituency and win the seat back,” he said during a special programme on Muvi television.

Malanji said the ruling was an attack on the democracy of the country, saying the same court has made two different rulings on a similar matter citing the Nyirenda case.

The former foreign affairs minister insisted that he had all the necessary documents which he presented before the commission, adding that even the investigations conducted by the police last year vindicated him to that effect.

“I am commending judge Mulenga for upholding the rule of law and upholding the constitution because when you look at the process, the same Court… this is an attack on our democracy, I have all the necessary documents for me to contest as member of parliament. There is little we can do, we respect their ruling but one thing I can assure you is that we shall be back in parliament, people of Kwacha feel injured, this ruling has actually injured people of Kwacha,” said Malani.

Malanji noted that the Court came to do the ruling with a preconceived mind.

“…you can tell how much (many times) this matter was adjourned, we were supposed to have this ruling in May, it was adjourned four times, there is a provision in article 25 where we had to submit the certificate in question and the court rejected our submission, like I said in the matter of Nyirenda, the Court subpoenaed the Examinations Council of Zambia to ascertain the document. So you can tell that the court was not acting independently, the autonomy of the is slowly eroding and you can see where we are heading it is very clear,” he said.

He said,” You can see that there is some pressure from somewhere, there is little we can do, the people on the ground know what to do. This ruling, you could see even when they were doing this ruling in their mind, they were praying to God that please forgive us for making a wrong ruling, you can actually see this matter was a straight forward matter and that is why it had to take a lot of time. The court was under pressure, from the powers that be, this is wasting tax payers’ money, I will go back to Kwacha and win the election, you see it is unfortunate that this time we don’t have people who want to serve people, we have people who are job seekers who think its life and death to be an MP. I am going back to kwacha and will win this by-election,” said Malanji.

BOWMAN LUSAMBO, PF ARE VERY STRONG IN KABUSHI-NDOLA UPND

BOWMAN LUSAMBO, PF ARE VERY STRONG IN KABUSHI-NDOLA UPND

President Hakainde Hichilema was not allowed to campaign here on the Copperbelt prior to the August 12, 2021 General Elections yet he managed to win in three out of the four seats here in Ndola.

The only constituency where President Hichilema lost was here in Kabushi. Even in Bwana Mkubwa where the UPND came third, President Hichilema emerged victorious.

Kabushi is the only constituency in Ndola where the UPND performed terribly. We lost the presidency, MP and all the eight wards. Eight wards.

It would be naive for the UPND to think the only reasons they lost in Kabushi were violence and electoral malpractices.

There are other serious factors that led the UPND to lose the Kabushi Seat. The main reason is that Kabushi is a PF stronghold. Anyone who claims otherwise is a liar and has never been on the ground.

The other factor that led to this loss is that the UPND fielded in unpopular candidates. There can be no other reason why we lost all the 8 wards other than having unpopular candidates. Some of the Councillors the UPND fielded in were total strangers who to this day have got into oblivion. The UPND Parliamentary candidate is still unknown to this day in certain areas of our constituency.

Adding to this, the UPND here in Kabushi went into the August 2021 elections as a divided house. We had other candidates decampaining the UPND Candidate who they felt had been imposed by the constituency. There were also strong rumours that those in the party structures were wining and dining with the PF and had been bought off. Other candidates who were not happy about what was obtaining in the UPND here in Kabushi chose to defect to other political parties and reduced the UPND numbers even more.

If the UPND has not made a serious postmortem to why they lost the Kabushi Seat they are likely to suffer the same fate in the coming by election.

The UPND should not underestimate the popularity of the PF in Kabushi. PF is still a strong party in Kabushi and to unseat them they will need someone who is equal to the task. They will need someone who is intelligent, articulate and above all, popular on the ground.

The UPND should not look beyond Mellbin Muyoba Simangolwa. Hon Simangolwa has for the past 20 years helped youths and women in Kabushi to acquire skills, something none among other candidates from all political parties in Kabushi can claim. Hon Simangolwa knows and understands the challenges the people of Kabushi face on a daily basis.

Kabushi has a chance to redeem itself and have an MP who will not go to Parliament just to drink water or make noise in the August House but will be able to articulate issues and present their case effectively and efficiently.

Ba Kabushi, twasebana pafula.

Top 10 Priorities Of A Sean Tembo Presidency In The First 90 Days In Office

Sean Tembo
TOP 10 PRIORITIES OF A SEAN TEMBO PRESIDENCY IN THE FIRST 90 DAYS IN OFFICE

During a question and answer session earlier today, Mr Ian Mutuka Simamba asked me what my top 10 priorities will be in the first 90 days in office as Republican President in 2026. The following was my response:

1. Give interest free business loans of between K5,000 to K30,000 to at least 300,000 Zambians across the country so that they can start or expand their businesses;

2. Reduce Government borrowing from local financial institutions by half, so that banks can be forced to lend to the private sector at affordable rates;

3. Ensure that police cells do not keep suspects for more than 48hrs without either taking them to court or giving them police bond;

4. Ensure that social cash transfer is only given to citizens who are above 70 years old or are disabled. Everyone else who wants Government assistance will be taken to state farms to work for their living. There will be no hand-outs;

5. The public order act will be repealed so that the opposition can campaign freely and share their ideas of how they intend to develop Zambia once in power;

6. Tax holidays that have been given to the mines will be abolished. Zambia will collect her fair share of tax from all mines, whether local or foreign;

7. There will be medicines in each and every health facility. Without excuse.

8. Farmers will be paid their money within 7 days after supplying their crops to FRA;

9. Student loans will be given to all students in all universities and colleges whether public or private. However, recovery systems will be enhanced to ensure that anyone who is educated by Government pays back in full once they are gainfully employed;

10. All those who are plundering national assets through corruption and giving tax holidays to their friends will be held accountable. There will be no sacred cows in the fight against plunder.

“To Fix Our Economy We Must Fix Our Name First”- Dr Nevers Mumba

0

“TO FIX OUR ECONOMY WE MUST FIX OUR NAME FIRST”
Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba
President, MMD
August 3rd 2022

What was damaged in the last regime was not only the economy but the name of Zambia. To restore the economy, we need to first restore the image of Zambia. The cost of living and prices of essential commodities will remain high for a while until the image of Zambia in the eyes of the global community is restored.

Creating order, determined fight against corruption, a working judicial system, conducive economic policies and a working democratic environment amongst many other efforts are the levers needed to clean up the image of our country.
Once the global community begins to discuss Zambia and the positive efforts we are making, then the world’s attention shall be turned towards us. This will mark the turn around for our country.

The main focus of any leader, in our case President Hichilema is to restore the name and image of Zambia. This is more significant than anything else, including the resuscitation of the economy. The Bible sums it up better…” A good name is better than silver and gold..”

Our support for President Hichilema and his government remains an open secret because he has gone out of his way to fight for the restoration of our name across the globe. This is the first thing we could have done had the Zambian people given us their vote to lead. It therefore goes without saying that our current efforts are aimed at ensuring that President Hichilema succeeds in this noble cause.

Zambia’s name has started to resonate across the globe. It is this exercise which shall attract investment, tourism and respect. A nation without a “name” is a poor nation.

We shall sell our name to everyone. Capitalists and Socialists, Christians and non-Christians, great nations and not so great nations. We shall do all this with a view to promote our national interest.

President Hichilema is on point in this regard considering the shattered international image we acquired from the last regime. This is why we have partnered with the UPND government to help in cleaning up the image of our country.

Let us sell our country’s name by excelling in international sports, art, church missions, international trade fairs and other outreaches. The President’s recent address of the European Union Parliament was a major milestone in re introducing Zambia to the world.

Let us also ensure, for a change, that we send only qualified and capable diplomats around the world.

We must find a permanent seat on the global round table. A good name will bring all the other instruments we need to rebuild our economy.

Seek ye first a good name and all these other things shall be added unto you.

MONEY LAUNDERING VERSUS MORAL LAUNDERING: Mary Chirwa Will Never Command Any Respect- Wynter Kabimba

0

MARY CHIRWA WILL NEVER COMMAND ANY RESPECT-WYNTER KABIMBA

MONEY LAUNDERING VERSUS MORAL LAUNDERING:

Wynter M. Kabimba SC ODS. Economic Front Party PRESIDENT

The Forbidden Fruit is a true story of a secret love affair between Anne Murphy, an American young lady and Eamon Casey who was at the time the bishop of Galway in the United States. In this love relationship the bishop fathered a son in breach of the doctrine of celibacy which has been the foundation of the Catholic Church for centuries. When Anne told the world after 18 years of covering up the secret affair, the bishop resigned his position in the church.

The secret love story between former President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky which went public across the world led to the impeachment of Clinton and brought immeasurable shame on the president and his family. These are but two examples out of many scandals which have raised the question of the sanctity of morals for those holding public office. This is not to say that those occupying public office are saints or angels but that moral transgression in public office has and should have consequences.

In 2019, former President Edgar Lungu an avid Christian believer dropped the then minister of education David Mabumba whose pornographic video had gone viral on social media. Lungu’s action was swift as the nation saw the minister fired the same day with no unnecessary debate as to whether or not Mabumba was a victim of the devil. Last week the country awoke to serialized viral videos of a woman fondling her private parts and masterbating using a banana fruit as a vibrator. The videos sparked debate about her identity. However, various comments finally settled the identity question. The lady was Mary Chirwa the all-powerful Director-General of the Drug Enforcement Commission, a state security agency which is charged with the responsibility of investigating money laundering offences not only in Zambia but also in collaboration with other jurisdictions. The DEC Director General is appointed by the President of Zambia under the constitution and Mary Chirwa was appointed and sworn in by HH, a fervent member of the seventh Day Adventist church.

A blog which gave the DG the right to be heard ran an article which quoted her as saying “I’m broken, I can’t speak.’’ She did not offer an explanation for her devastation or dispute her identity in the videos. While featuring on the Hot-FM programme, the president’s press aid preferred HH’s reflections in the matter. It was to the effect that Mary Chirwa should remain focused on her job. Again her identity was not in dispute. This was horrifying, coming from the president who is famed for piety and a man not guilty of any social sins committed by ordinary mortals.

In defence of feminism, Nellie Mutti who is speaker of the National Assembly took refuge in religiosity when the matter was raised in parliament “He who has not sinned or fondled himself, let him cast the first stone,’’ she said. She forgot or was blinded by her support to appreciate the fact that Mary Chirwa is not an ordinary person like the adulterous woman in the Bible. If Bishop Casey, Bill Clinton David Mabumba or Mary Chirwa were of pedestrian stock, society would have easily look the other way. But they are not, and hence the onerous duty placed on them to uphold high moral standards in the public offices they serve. Mary Chirwa will henceforth not command the respect and confidence of the public she is appointed to serve to fight vices of money laundering, except with HH, unless she first launders her corrupted morals.

Lusaka…. Friday, July 29, 2022 (Smart Eagles)

Aba bantu ni ambula matu, ndiye mwe balili, Patriotic Front Media Director Antonio Mwanza slams the ruling UPND over the running of the affairs of the country.

Mr Mwanza said the New Dawn Administration has the pomposity to lie to Zambians as though they are children.

Regarding the issue of fuel prices, the PF Media Director accused the UPND government of always using the war in Ukraine as an excuse for the increment.

He however argued that government first increased the prices way before the said war started.

“Aba bantu, they have a pomposity yonyaula bantu mumatu. They have the pomposity to lie to the Zambian people as if us we are duffed, sitiganiza, ndise bana. They always use the war in Ukraine as an excuse for high fuel prices,” he said.

“But this government first increased the price of fuel on 16th December 2021, kulibe nkhondo ku Ukraine. So what was the basis of the increment in December? People who are doing businesses, people who are Economists have advised them not to be reviewing the prices of fuel monthly…..it distorts business and it is very difficult for people to plan.”

Meanwhile, Mr Mwanza has castigated Minister of Green Economy Collins Nzovu for insinuating that Zambia has for the first time attained liberty following UPND’s victory in last year’s elections.

“But aba bantu ni ambula matu, ndiye mwe balili. These people are full of themselves, they think they are so special. I can’t believe what I am reading on social media. A Minister Collins Nzovu has posted on social media to say August should be declared a month of liberation. Zambia is slowly turning into a country of milk and honey, that we as Zambians should celebrate our independence from 12 August when UPND won elections,” he said.

“What an insult to president Kenneth Kaunda, may his soul rest in peace, who fought for the independence that Mr Nzovu today is enjoying. What an insult to the contributions that Dr Fredrick Titus Chiluba contributed to the liberation…..to the liberization of the economy and the democratization of this country.”

He explained that UPND has lost touch with realities on the ground.

Mr Mwanza lamented that the new dawn government doesn’t know the sufferings of ordinary Zambians.

“A Nzovu salary yabo ni K1,009,0000 per month…..then, aba ma ministers aba, housing allowance chabe, ni K20,000, per month. Aba ma Minister sibagula na fuel so sibaziba kuti banaikila. Sibalipila malaiti, sibalipila manzi, so sibaziba navamene vichitika,” he said.

“That is why he is saying Zambia is a country of milk and honey because as far as he is concerned, he is really enjoying milk and honey. What I am trying to tell you is they have lost touch with realities on the ground. They don’t know the sufferings of the Zambian people.

Taiwan Is An Inseparable Part Of China’s Territory – Fred M’membe

TAIWAN IS AN INSEPARABLE PART OF CHINA’S TERRITORY -FRED MMEMBE

The visit of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, to China’s Taiwan region grossly interferes with China’s internal affairs, severely undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, wantonly tramples on the One-China principle, seriously threatens peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The current United States administration has on multiple occasions made the commitment of adhering to the One-China principle. However, some recent remarks and actions by the United States run counter to the commitment.

Our stance on the Taiwan question is consistent. It firmly upholds China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adheres to the one-China principle, opposes any external forces’ interference with affairs of China, fully supports the country’s strong determination to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely safeguards national sovereignty, security and development interests.

Historically and culturally, Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China since 13th century. In 17th Century China government liberated Taiwan from Netherland colonisers. In the World War II Taiwan, as a part of China, had been invaded and occupied by the Japanese fascists, then liberated by Chinese anti-fascism forces.

There is only one China in the world. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all of China. “One China Principle” has been made clear by the UN in 1971, and has always been the universal consensus of the international community and the basic norm of international relations.

The United States tries to provoke China into a war by violating “One China Principle” and conniving its senior leaders to conduct official visits to Taiwan. The purpose of the United States provocations is to impose a military war on socialist China, to interrupt its peaceful development.

As the only superpower of the world, the United States doesn’t have solution to its own internal problems such as the pandemic and violation of human rights, nor to the biggest challenges of the world such as poverty and hunger. Instead, it tries to continue its hegemony by provoking wars and undermining peace. Such imperialist behaviour must be condemned by all peace loving people.

Pelosi’s Provocative Trip To China Offensive, Unacceptable – Hon. Nixon Chilangwa

PELOSI’S PROVOCATIVE TRIP TO CHINA OFFENSIVE, UNACCEPTABLE -HON.NIXON CHHILANGWA

LUSAKA- WEDNESDAY, 3RD AUGUST 2022

We have learnt with shock, concerns and outrage the U.S. House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei, Taiwan on Tuesday, 2nd August 2022.

This is despite strong objection from the People’s Republic of China and other peace-loving states in the world.

Ms.Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan is the highest-level visit by an American official to the island in 25 years.

This is because the World has supported and accepted the “One China Principle”, a position held by the People’s Republic of China that there is only one sovereign state under the name China, with the Peoples Republic of China serving as the sole legitimate government of China, and Taiwan and that the island nation is an integral part of China.

Therefore this provocative visit by Ms. Pelosi is not only reckless but also designed to deliberately undermine the People’s Republic of China and in so doing heighten tensions on the Taiwanese straight and may result in a conflict with far reaching international ramifications.

In our view, this visit was extremely careless and has capacity to plunge the world into yet another international crisis as seen in the Russia/ Ukraine Conflict.

We therefore wish to condemn in the strongest possible way, Ms. Pelosi’s visit to Taipei.

The Patriotic Front party wishes to affirm that it recogniese the One China Principle and holds that the island territory of Taiwan is an integral part of the People’s Republic of China.

We also share China’s concerns as this is an assault on the integrity and sovereignty of the country and their long-held goal to re-unite Taiwan with China.

We urge the USA Government to desist from engaging in deliberate actions that may escalate civil and military conflicts in the World.

We further call upon our Government (Zambian) to immediately condemn the US government’s action as seen by Ms Pelosi’s visit. Our government must be seen to be promoting peace regardless

BEFORE THE CENTRAL BANK

Source: BOZ

A semblance of central banking started in Zambia through the establishment in 1938 of the Salisbury (Harare) based Southern Rhodesia Currency Board. Its jurisdiction extended to Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland because of a monetary agreement that existed between Southern Rhodesia and these territories.

In 1954, the Southern Rhodesia Currency Board was renamed the Currency Board of Rhodesia and Nyasaland when its ownership changed from the Southern Rhodesia government to the Federal government of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Currency boards are not central banks and they do not offer banking services. Their sole function, in contrast to the multiple functions of central banks, is to issue currency.

In the case of the Central African Currency Board, and its predecessor they issued the Central African pounds which were 100 percent backed by pound sterling reserves in London. In other words, if the territories’ foreign exchange reserves rose, the Board increased its issue of local currency. If they declined, the local currency issued also had to be reduced. With time the Currency Boards existence was hotly debated with some people saying that it needed to be replaced by a central bank.

At the time, one of the popular views held by economists was that monetary policy could play a direct role in promoting economic growth primarily through credit expansion. The strict rules on monetary creation under the currency board, which made it conditional on developments in the balance of payments, did not accommodate discretionary credit expansion. In general, it was also considered more preferable to have a central bank which could conduct monetary policy and counter unfavourable cyclical developments.

Another major criticism that was made on the currency board was that the system for issuing currency under it imposed a heavy opportunity cost on the economy. Since the domestic currency on issue required 100 percent pound sterling cover, the utilisation of foreign reserves to import capital for development was restricted. In one important aspect, there is an important lesson to be learnt from the currency board arrangement. Firstly, it was cheap to administer.

This was because it was a tiny organisation. Secondly and perhaps more important, monetary restraint was much easier to establish under the currency board arrangement because government borrowing, the usual source of monetary expansion in most countries, was not allowed. Maintaining low inflation rates is therefore much simpler compared to modern central banking which permits the government to print money for spending. Many central banks in the world, including the Bank of Zambia, which were forced to rapidly expand credit to their governments during the 1970s and the 1980s discovered they could do little to stop inflation. That is why in the recent years many governments are moving away from borrowing from their central banks.

The Establishment Of Central Bank

As the view grew stronger that a currency board was inappropriate, the Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland was established in March, 1956. It was equipped with the full powers of a conventional central Bank such as conducting monetary policy, banker to government and commercial banks, manager of foreign exchange reserves and so on. The bank was also empowered to lend to the territorial and the Federal governments up to a limit based on their expected revenues in that fiscal year. The Bank of Zambia was established to take over from the Bank of Northern Rhodesia on the 7th of August,1964 although its Act was only passed in June, 1965. The Bank of Northern Rhodesia was itself constituted from the Lusaka branch (established in September, 1961) of the Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland after it broke up together with the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland on the 31st of December, 1963. The Bank started operations with about 100 staff organised around only two departments, namely the Chief Cashier’s or General Manager’s department and the Secretary’s department. The former was responsible to the Governor for monetary policy implementation, currency issue, banking, government securities, exchange control and foreign exchange management.

The Secretary was responsible for personnel, administration, internal auditing and the Board. With time, the number of departments at the Bank started to increase. One of the earliest to be established was the Research Department in 1967. The Operations Department was created in 1976, and later, especially in the 1980s, the pace accelerated when other departments such as Personnel and Administration (1977) Exchange Control. Import and Export Control, Estate and Properties (all in 1981) were created. They were followed in 1982 by Banking and Currency, Small Scale Industries, Inspection and in 1984 by National Debt, Transport, and Government Securities.

The increase in the number of departments at the Bank partly reflected the increased demand on the functions which it had to perform, most of which centred around administering government imposed regulations such as exchange controls and import and export controls. In turn there was higher demand by the Bank on support services for these core activities. In addition, however, it is also true that the Bank, like many other organisations both inside and outside Zambia then, did not make hard distinctions between core and peripheral responsibilities and, hence, utilised resources accordingly.

To give a concrete example, it was an accepted practice in Zambia that employers should find accommodation for their employees and in some cases, even furnish that accommodation. Institutions therefore acquired substantial property which required manpower and organisation to manage. In some cases there were economic arguments, which were considered sound then, which led to organisational expansion.

In the foreword to Ten Years of Banking in Zambia, a Bank of Zambia publication, former President Kenneth Kaunda wrote as follows: “Our highest priority now is the rapid development of the rural areas where the masses of our people live. In this connection, I am confident that the Bank of Zambia would not restrict itself to the orthodox central banking concept of monetary stability only. I would like to see the banking system as a whole take the challenge and devise effective tools in order to facilitate the dawn of a new era of prosperity for the rural areas in particular and the other sectors of the country in general …,” As already indicated above, this was an acceptable position at the time in the developing world and one of its strongest proponents among practitioners was the Reserve Bank of India.

Applied to Zambia, it included the establishment of a department for Small Scale Industries and, later, a credit guarantee scheme. The expansion of the functions of the Bank saw a rise in the number of staff from 400 by 1975, to 1 226 in 1988 and to 1 400 in 1994. The Bank premises therefore had to be extended to accommodate the numbers.

The new building (currently corporate head office) opened in 1975 while the Regional office in Ndola opened in 1979. Annex
buildings were subsequently added to Lusaka and Ndola. This expansion resulting from this extension of functions was unfortunately not underpinned by a strong organisational structure. Instead, and in the words of a consultant in 1989. “The Structure of the Bank has evolved over time more in response to staffing factors than the real needs of the Bank”.

One major cause for this has been the extreme rapid turnover of Governors. Since 1964, there have been ten appointments to the post (excluding the current Governor) over a period of 28 years making an average tenure of 2.8 years for each. With instability at the top, continuity and strategic planning for the future were bound to suffer.

The Changing Roles Of Central Bank

The Bank of Zambia Act of 1965, and its subsequent amendments charge the institution with the usual central bank responsibilities such as being banker to government, issuer of currency, manager of foreign exchange reserves, controller of commercial banks’ liquidity and with responsibilities for the formulation and implementation of monetary policy. Although maintaining price stability is referred to in the Act as one of the Bank’s objectives, it was not considered with any particular emphasis in practice. This was not unique to Zambia.

Many other central banks followed the received wisdom of the times regarding the possibility of a trade off between inflation and employment – the Phillips Curve idea which stipulates that higher levels of employment could be attained if higher inflation rate could be tolerated. The thinking at the Bank of Zambia – and at many other central banks – was that putting special emphasis on the central bank’s objective of maintaining price stability was focusing the function of a central bank much too narrowly. Interpreting its position correctly the Bank of Zambia acquired an equity stake in the Development Bank of Zambia and in the Zambia National Commercial Bank.

At one time, thought was even given to the possibility of establishing and running a commercial farm. Meanwhile in the major central banks of the world, the idea that the main role of central banks should be the maintenance of price stability without which a stable macroeconomic environment was not possible, was gaining ground. It was also increasingly being felt that there was little else that a central bank can do to promote economic prosperity and attempting to do so through easy money just led to higher inflation. As a result of this realisation, Central Banks started to re-orientate their activities accordingly.

This new view on the appropriate role for central banks is only now beginning to be accepted. In 1991, the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) came to power, replacing the United National Independence Party (UNIP) which had ruled for 27 years. The new government’s priorities was the restoration of economic future growth and employment to the Zambian economy.

Liberalising the economy and thereby allowing market forces a greater role in the allocation of resources was to be the main means of achieving this. Price controls were abolished, as were subsidies on all consumer items. Macroeconomic management in Zambia has not been the same since. Although the ultimate economic objective has remained the same, namely growth and employment, it is now generally accepted that investment and subsequent growth is unlikely to take place if the economy remains characterised by macroeconomic instability such as high inflation, shortage of foreign exchange, scarcities of commodities and so on. Consequently, from 1992 the emphasis has been on creating a stable macroeconomic environment as a prelude to sustainable economic growth.

The government’s focus on price stability as a key contribution to future economic growth prospects has paused a new but welcome challenge for the Bank. Hence, for example, although it reluctantly got involved in things like providing credit to Parastatal organisations, it has begun to re-orient its activities towards meeting the core objective of maintaining price stability and ensuring a sound financial system.

PASTORS WIVES ARE FRUSTRATED

By Mudson Ng’andu

Now! If you haven’t been in my inbox, coaching sessions and you don’t know what phone calls I receive, shut up or scroll down to the next article. This one is not for babies.

I know for some of you, the only time you get to see mai busa, is when she is well dressed, make up on point, smiling and seated in front with a table full of fruits, sweets, juice and water.

She looks like the perfect role model and you just want to be like her. Well, not all that glitters is gold. A number of smiling mai busas, especially those married to young new age pastors and prophets, are very frustrated and stuck. Actually, they advise their single friend not to marry pastors.

They won’t say how frustrated they are, because the church has been taught and told; the pastors’ marriage is perfect, without blemish and must be emulated by all congregants, so to avoid confusing the church, she has to live a life of pretence… Ouch.

Let me start with financial issues. Did you know that there are number of pastors who are broke, and the wife knows how broke the man is? Please help your man of God whenever you can, they are suffering financially.

Between Monday and Saturday, the man is broke and has no way of making money. A lot of things are missing in the house and she knows. But when it comes on sunday, she has to be noding her head, agreeing with him that God is blessing them, even when she knows its not true.

He shares testimonies on stage that never happened and the wife has to agree. Ouch. And yet when they get home, there is no money for even simple basic needs. She knows, without the so called “prophetic offering” they would sleep hungry.

She wishes she could tell the man, “find something to do so that you can make genuine money” but the man is so pacified and papalised by his papa who does not even give him money and he believes one day, he too will also buy a private jet.

Thats why he dresses like his papa and wears suits, taken on credit, so that he can take pictures in smart clothes and make facebook prophecies. And the wife has to play along without having anyone to talk to because she is scared they will judge her husband. She stays in quiet desperation…

Second, it’s the issue of romance. Not all, but a number of these new age young pastors are emotionally anavailable to their spouses. If you ask me, most of them are more available to their papa, and to their spiritual daughters, than they are to their wives.

They think its enough to just say “this is my wife” without being there for the wive. A number of them are unmentored in the field of romance too. They think they know and instead of learning from others, they are there doing marriage seminars..

What do you know about marriage to do a marriage seminar already? This feeling of being infallible makes them too proud to learn from others and so the wife has to be strong without enjoying romance.

Lets talk about sex, the man has theories about what is not a christian way of making love, so he leaves the wife frustrated because she can’t get what she wants.

Do I need to go into details to say some have never even had an orgasm before. Because the style she needs to cum is considered “unchristian”… I leave this here, there are children on my page.

The man has never bought pizza for the wife, never taken her for a good meal at some exotic place, because its either he is at the mountain or has a program with papa. And through all this, the lady has no one to talk to…

When she wants him to cuddle in bed, the man is already up, praying. The best she has ever done is pray about it. On the weekend, she has to lift up holy hands like all is well.

Even giving marital advise to ladies who had multiple orgams last night, after dinner with portuguese chicken at a five star hotel. I rest my case and wait for blows from papalised people.

*And this idea of making your wife a pastor just because you are a pastor is not right. Just because you are called, does not mean she is called. Stop putting unnecessary pressure on your wife. Be the pastor, let her be your wife. Fulustop.

Beyonce removes Kelis’ sample from her song after she accused her of ‘theft’

Beyonce removes Kelis’ sample from her song after she accused her of ‘theft’
Following criticism from Kelis over the sample, Beyonce reportedly erased a portion of the 2003 Kelis song Milkshake from her song Energy.

According to Rolling Stone, updated versions of the song Energy from Beyonce’s most recent album Renaissance were available on Tidal and Apple as of Tuesday. There was a problem here and there.

The version of Energy with the Kelis sample was still available on Spotify as of Tuesday, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (formerly known as The Neptunes), who both received credit for the Beyonce song but not for the 2003 smash by Kelis, wrote the song. The samples used on the music were interpolated, changing the original sound for a new song, according to Beyonce’s website.

Kelis last week accused Beyonce of ‘theft’ for allegedly using a sample of a track off her 2003 album Tasty on her new album without permission.

The performer, 42, didn’t hold back after discovering that the superstar, 40, used a short section from her song, Milkshake, on her forthcoming track, Energy, alongside the rest of the world.

After a fan account for the two-time Grammy nominee shared the news, Kelis commented that she was shocked by the song credit and angered not to have any advance notice.

‘My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance all 3 parties involved is astounding,’ she said. ‘I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.’

In response to one comment that Beyonce clearly admires her work, Kelis replied: ‘Admire is not the word.’ In another comment, she said ‘It’s not a collab it’s theft.’

Kelis later took to Instagram calling the track Milkshake ‘one of the most licensed records of our generation.’

She added: ‘I am a creator , I’m an innovator, I have done more then left my mark on an era of music and style that will go down in history. But there are [bullies] and secrets and gangsters in this industry that smile and get away with it until someone says enough is enough. So I’m saying it today. I’m coming for what’s mine and I want reparations. Peace.’

Beyonce’s upcoming record will be the seventh she has produced over her much-celebrated career.

UPND’s one year stay in Govt has been an Economic Disaster- Antonio Mwanza

0

Patriotic Front (PF) Media Director Antonio Mourinho Mwanza says the UPND’s one year stay in Government has been an “Economic Disaster” and a serious challenge for the Zambian people.

Speaking during UNZA Radio’s Lusaka Star Programme yesterday, Mr Mwanza stated that the economy is in distress adding that the money is losing value.

Mr Mwanza noted that life under the New Dawn Administration has been extremely difficult for the Zambian people especially for those running businesses.

He added that the cost of running business was very low under PF compared to the period the Current Government has been in power.

“The cost of living has remained high such that one needs not less than K9,300 per month to raise a family of five in Lusaka before adding other expenses,” he said

Mr Mwanza noted that today, most people have closed these shops in townships because the cost of doing business has become very high, and when it comes to commodity prices, Mealie meal was 120 and today it is k150 in certain places.

“When UPND took over Government fuel was K17 per liter, but today it is k24 per liter……We had medicine in hospitals today, even UTH is fighting to have reagents,” he noted

Mr Mwanza stated that the PF had a clear road map when it comes to economic policies as compared to the UPND.

He said that the PF under the leadership of Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu introduced the economic recovery plan as well as debt management plan which this current Government has failed to do.

“If the Zambian people were complaining when fuel was at K17 per liter, imagine how deep the problems are for the citizens at K24 per liter. When the fuel was going up, the PF brought in measures to lower the costs such as the removal of VAT on Fuel and removing excise and import duties on fuel,” he said.

He explained that a stabilisation fund on fuel was created to cushion the increase in price of the commodity, that’s how the PF managed to maintain it when in other countries prices soared, the UPND Government has not injected any money to stabilise the fuel prices.

Mr Mwanza claimed that the UPND is using the PF economic recovery plan and the issue of debt management plan Government is using is primarily the copycat of what the PF left.

He cited that the Government must not give excuses for the Ukraine war because they need to prepare for such situations and cushion the poor.

And Mr Mwanza mentioned that 2022 has been a sad year for farmers, because the Government has neglected all the promises it made during the campaigns on farming.

“The promises made to the farmers to buy Maize at over K200 hasn’t been achieved, when the UPND took over Government, fertilizer was at K450 but today it is Over K1000 when they promised that it will be at K250,” he said

Parastatal and PS´s appetite for luxury cars is Shocking Amidst HH’s Prudent Preaching- Amb Emmanuel Mwamba

Parastatal and PS´s appetite for luxury cars is Shocking Amidst HH’s Prudent Preaching

…says Ambassador Mwamba in live 5FM interview

2nd August 2022

The huge appetite heads of state-owned enterprise (SoEs) and Permanent Secretaries have to own expensive luxury cars at the expense of taxpayers is appalling and must be nipped in the bud according to Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba.
Ambassador Mwamba said the greed is totally against President Hakainde Hichilema´s call for ´frugality ‘as the Zambian economy continues to stand on its knees due to local and international challenges.

Most Zambians that voted for President Hichilema, today cannot afford three meals a day or better still raise money for public transport as the poor get poorer in the southern African country due to high costs of fuel and electricity among others.
“There seems to be a huge disconnect between what President Hichilema wants in order to run the economy and his quasi-government officials including Permanent Secretaries,” said Ambassador Mwamba.

The former Permanent Representative of Zambia to the African Union said, “in one breath the President says don’t buy expensive luxury cars and the next day the Minister of Finance Situmbeko Musokotwane sneaks in a Supplementary budget of K22 billion about US$1.4 billion, K14 million of it meant specifically to buy luxury 4×4 cars for DEC, teaching service commission and others that don’t need them. This is criminal and disrespectful to President Hichilema´s honest directive. Why doesn’t he fire these people who defy him openly?”
Mr Mwamba said Zambia under UPND is littered with a huge appetite of the need for luxury vehicle from loss making companies like ZESCO that was stopped by civil society and opposition from buying 21 luxury 4×4 vehicles at a cost of about US$5 million when the company has a debt of US$6 billion.

“Now we see that finance minister Mr Musokotwane has sanctioned the purchase of 4 expensive cars for DEC (led by Mary Chirwa) 4 or five more for other government institutions when the economy is on its knees and steeped in debt this is wrong.”
Ambassador Mwamba said the “problem with Zambian SOE heads is they want to compete with private sector heads while ignoring the fact that private sector heads draw their perks from their performance so called KPIs or key performance indicators set by their board of directors.”

Mr Mwamba also urged President Hichilema to stop calling himself the Chief Marketing Officer or Zambia because in doing so, he gives up his position as CEO or Chief Executive of Zambia.

He said a CMO answers to the CEO so therefore his CEOs such as parastatal chiefs and Permanent Secretaries remain without a job when he takes over their ´low´ titles.

The diplomat turned politician who is also a member of the central committee of the main opposition Patriotic Front urged Mr Hichilema to halt the massive international trips tipping the scale at about two trips a month since assuming office 10 months ago because they rob the poor Zambians.

“President Hichilema is in trouble over foreign trips that are out of the roof because he condemned predecessor Edgar Lungu over trips, most of which were genuine. He must be held to the same high bar he set it is getting too expensive in a poor economy like ours,” said Mwamba.

A constant issue-based critic of President Hichilema, Ambassador Mwamba called on the Zambian President to educate himself on what being a President of a country is because he is doing a bad job currently, especially economically as prices of food and fuel continue to rise.
President Hichilema´s “useful idiots” praise singers as termed by Dr Fred Mmembe are however expected to refute these hard cold facts, as stated by Ambassador Mwamba and others.

The question here is whether Mr Hichilema has control of his cronies in UPND or not? They don’t seem to practice what he preaches according to observers.

About the ‘intact, not depressed’ Bowman Lusambo

About the ‘intact, not depressed’ Bowman

Bowman Lusambo says he is not depressed after the Constitutional Court upheld the nullification of his election as Kabushi PF member of parliament.

He says he is now contemplating whether to stand or not in the by-election within the next 90 days.
“I am very intact. I am not even thinking about defecting. Defecting to go where?” said Lusambo. “I cannot. I will sit and reflect where the world takes us. Regarding the issue of recontesting the elections, that is straight forward. What the court (Constitutional Court) has done is that it has called for fresh elections. That is all. So, assertions that I can’t contest are lies. It is a straight forward matter. Elections are won on the ground. As it stands, I am intact.”

Indeed, Bowman ought to reflect well – deeply – and without illusions. Certainly, the world in which he bulldozed no longer exists. His ‘nato forces’ mentality is and must remain consigned to the dustbin of the PF’s violent politics that was rejected in 2021. But we agree with the bootlicker when he says: “I am very intact, I’m not depressed. I am not even thinking about defecting. Defecting to go where?” He has no reason to get depressed because he authored those malpractices – he knew what he was doing. And even if he were depressed by the court’s decision, he won’t say it. He won’t declare it publicly. He’ll come out brave and ‘intact’ but it hurts inside! This is because he brought it upon himself. He has to live with the choices – decisions – he made. It is said that ‘Reap what you sow’ also means that the actions – Karma – you do in life will come back to you. A good action will reap good outcomes and vice-versa.

“Everything you do, everything you say, every choice you make, sooner or later comes back around.” – Anonymous.

Grant M. Bright put it this way, “You reap what you sow: Life is like a boomerang. Our thoughts, deeds and words return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy.”

And the Holy Bible is clear about things.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” – Galatians 6:7. “Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity, and the rod of his fury will fail.” – Proverbs 22:8. “A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.” – Proverbs 11:18.

DEPRESSION: Mpali Director, Collins Zulu, Reveals Personal Details About Battle With Depression

Family, friends & all; let’s reach out to Collins Zulu.

He’s a brother, a friend, a husband & a father who needs our support.

Collins Zulu reveals

I STAND NAKED BEFORE YOU

I have never shared anything personal on social media, but this one cuts deep.

You may mock me as I strip myself naked publicly. My vulnerability is a cry for help. I write this with tears in my eyes and a heavy heart 💔.

I have always been that funny guy on film sets cracking jokes making everyone laugh even on Facebook sharing jokes. But behind those jokes lays an empty soul, given up on life, resigned from everything to do with progress.

I have been struggling with depression for the past three years and no one noticed because I kept a straight face. There were moments I felt like taking my own life. Even the trauma from my last road accident still haunts me to this day, I blacked out whilst driving, I have a serious phobia for cars.

Mpali has been an escape for me and a good distraction from my pain, but the moment I leave the set, pain hugs me even more tighter every passing day.

Like most depressed people, I equally took it to bottles. The last six months has been my most dangerous life threatening period. I completely lost it. I have literally been drinking every night just to numb the pain. I could drink two bottles of nederburg wine whole by myself and still not get drunk, it got to a point of mixing Black Label vima big vili five to feel something with additional shots of whiskey.

I have been drinking three to four different types of alcohol in a night to get knocked and blackout just in order to sleep, Insomnia has been my companion if I’m sober. Even antidepressants could not do the job.

In the morning I would wake up without remembering anything from last night. In short, I was slowly becoming a junky without noticing, hurting important people in my life. It’s very easy to become a junky in entertainment industry because of excited fans who buys alcohol for you like there’s no tomorrow.

I’m a very guarded person, I don’t confide in people anyhow, I’m very private. I maybe a keyboard worrier on Facebook but I rarely go out to public places. If you happen to meet me, I’m likely to be alone. Before I became a deplorable father, I would be with my kids.

People, depression is real. Why am I sharing this? I know there are a lot of people out there struggling battling dealing with depression. My confession is part of my healing process for rehabilitation, I know it’s a journey that won’t be easy. But I’m glad I have come to this realization before it’s too late.

We need to be more sensitive to one another, behind most smiles you see lays deep scures. The biggest problem, when you’re in this state, nothing else matters. Being a director of the most popular and watched show in the Southern region and East Africa, you would expect someone to be a happy soul because almost everywhere you go, people are appreciating your work. Unfortunately this has not been the case. I have been an empty soul.

Entertainment industry has a lot of depressed individuals. One of the causes has been pressure to perform and maintain the top spot.

Before it’s too late, if you’re going through any sort of struggle, talk to someone mature, you might just live to see another day.

Beer is suppose to be for recreation, but moment you start drinking to suppress your issues, just know that you’re heading towards a destructive path that usually results in losing your life.

I’m taking sabbatical leave from this account as I embark on my recovery. I’ll only be posting film related on Director-Collins page. ❤️❤️❤️

South Africa gang-rape horror: One person is shot dead and 42 more suspects are arrested

South African police have shot one person dead and arrested 42 other suspects adding to the two killed and 84 detained after eight models were viciously gang-raped by illegal miners.

The shocking crime took place while the women were shooting a music video near an abandoned gold mine in the wilds close to Krugersdorp, near Johannesburg on July 28.

The models and crew, the youngest of whom was 19 and the eldest 37, were raped up to ten times each over several hours by the criminals. Read previous story here

The gang also systematically robbed the crew and girls of their mobile phones, rings, jewellery, handbags, cash, and cameras.

The models and production crew were ordered to lay down at gunpoint before more assailants appeared from the scrub.

The gang took the models one at a time into the bush and raped them up to ten times each, while also relieving them of their personal property including phones, cash, wallets, purses, cameras and other valuables.

A 19-year-old victim said she lied to her attacker that she had suffered a miscarriage to be saved from being raped further, according to a Sunday Times South Africa report.

‘I had no way out but to lie, because they were picking us up one by one. There were others who were raped by six to 10 men,’ she said.

Her 21-year-old sister, who was raped in a ditch, said the girls’ ordeal lasted four hours.

The woman who had organised the models for the shoot said that she tried to protect them from the rapists and she was violated first.

‘They kept telling the younger boys to rape us and they’d hit them and force them to do so,’ she said.

Police Minister Bheki Cele said the crimes inspired police to ramp up a planned crackdown on general criminality in the area, including arms trafficking, illegal immigration, and theft of valuable metals.

‘We need to find those people [the rapists], but this operation is not just to respond to that [incident],’ he said, admitting that his department still did not know who exactly was responsible for the sex crimes.

More than 300 demonstrators, the majority of whom were women, were pictured marching outside the Krugersdorp courtroom yesterday evening carrying placards decrying the shocking crimes and the startling frequency of sexual violence in South Africa.

‘We are going to demand that the police station should be placed under administration because the community has reported many crimes committed by the (criminals) but nothing has been done,’ said Zandile Dabula, secretary-general of Operation Dudula, an organisation that protests against illegal immigrants in South Africa.

The organisation was part of the Monday protest outside the courthouse.

‘It is clear that they are failing to deal with crime in this area so they should be placed under administration,’ said Ms. Dabula.

The man killed by police this morning was shot at a disused mine in Luipaardsvlei, roughly 6 miles from a camp where many of the illegal miners – known locally as ‘zama zamas’ – are thought to be based.

Police said they spotted the man and an accomplice carrying a rifle and pistol, and shot one of them when they went to draw their weapons. The other suspect was arrested.

What happened in Krugersdorp is just a shame of the nation,’ Cele told a press briefing on Sunday, adding some of the victims would suffer long-term consequences.

‘Some of those destructions are permanent with those kids.’

Pay me $260K or go to prison – Rudy Giuliani sued by ex-wife Judith

0

Former Donald Trump’s lawyer and 107th Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani has been sued by his ex-wife Judith.

Guiliani’s ex-wife who wants him to cough up more than a quarter of a million dollars or go to prison, filed the lawsuit on Tuesday August 2, at the Supreme Court of the State of New York.

Page Six reported that Judith Giuliani claims that the former mayor and one-time personal attorney to Donald Trump is in contempt of court for allegedly withholding $262,000 he should have paid her under the terms of their divorce settlement for things like their Palm Beach, Fla., house, housekeeper and private club fees.

In a sworn affidavit, Judith accuses Rudy of owing her $140,000 for their South Lake Drive, Palm Beach, property alone. The lux condo was listed on the market in 2019 for $3.3 million. It didn’t sell, but Judith claims in the documents that Rudy “is required to pay me $200,000 regardless of whether or not the property has been sold” per the divorce agreement, and she claims that he’s only given her $60,000.

Judith who also affirmed that they are responsible for their own dues at a country club, also accused Rudy of allegedly failing to “pay his half of the annual club membership dues.” She claims that in the meantime, she’s been forced to bail him out to the tune of $70,000. “I had no choice but to pay his share of the dues … in order to remain in good standing with the clubs,” she says in court papers. And she wants the money back.

He’s also supposed to pay up to $5,000 a month for her to have help, such as an assistant or housekeeper. But she claims in the docs that since last summer, Rudy “has made inconsistent and sporadic payments to me, including a $10,000 check in June 2021 that was returned due to insufficient funds.” She says in the papers that he now owes $45,000 in back pay for the help.

Despite his recent troubles, Judith is confident Rudy has the funds to fork over the $262,000. She said;

“He owns multiple properties in New York City and Palm Beach [and it seems] he has significant earnings from his media-related contracts and deals.”

According to the filing, she is demanding he pay up “immediately” with interest. Judith’s lawyers also said that he’s in contempt of court for allegedly skipping out on the payment, and would be in jail if he doesn’t get his act together.

The court papers added;

“Your failure to appear in court may result in immediate arrest or imprisonment for contempt of court.”

Judith filed for divorce in April 2018 after 15 years of marriage. The pair had a contentious battle, sparring over their combined estimated $30 million fortune.

Her lawyer at the time accused Rudy of working for free as Trump’s lawyer to lower his income and thereby decrease her then $42,000 monthly alimony payments.

Judith also accused Rudy of swiping her extensive collection of heirloom Christmas decorations and he accused her of taking his TV remote controls and cable box so he couldn’t watch himself on TV.

They settled in December 2019. Details of the agreement were not made public at the time. Judith did get the couple’s former Hamptons home, which she recently sold for $5 million.

Giuliani was also sued by Miller Gaffney Art Advisory, the art appraisal firm that he hired for his divorce battle with Judith. They claimed in court papers in 2020 that he stiffed them out of at least $15,000.

Giuliani’s career and reputation seem to have been in something of a free fall over the past couple of years.

His law license has been suspended in both New York and the District of Columbia, he faces ethics charges over false election claims from the DC bar, and Dominion Voting Systems which provided voting machines for the 2020 election, which he claims was rigged, has sued him for $1.3 billion.

He has also been accused of being drunk on election night, which he denies, and he is set to testify in Atlanta next month in a special grand jury investigating Trump and allies’ alleged interference in the Georgia vote.

Last year, federal agents raided his home and office as part of an investigation into whether he asked Ukraine officials to help unearth information on Hunter Biden.

He also recently claimed he was attacked by a ShopRite worker during a gubernatorial campaign rally for his son, Andrew. But the video showed that the alleged assault was more like a pat on the back. Mayor Eric Adams called him a “Karen” and called for the DA to consider prosecuting him for allegedly filing a false police report.

Music mogul, Jamal Edwards, 31, died from a cardiac arrest after 4am cocaine and drinking session with a friend, inquest hears

0

British music entrepreneur, Jamal Edwards died from a cardiac arrest after a late night cocaine and drinking session where he became paranoid and began throwing objects around the room before falling unconscious, an inquest heard today.

Three small snap bags containing the remnants of white powder were found on the 31-year-old son of Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards after he collapsed at his west London home in February this year, the hearing was told.

Assistant West London Coroner Ivor Collett today ruled that Mr. Edwards died after a cardiac arrest brought on by taking cocaine and drinking alcohol.

His heartbroken mother, Brenda, described him as ‘a beautiful and selfless person’ in a statement read to the inquest. Earlier this year she said she wanted his death to ‘help drive more conversation about the unpredictability of recreational drugs’.

The DJ and founder of online R&B/Hip-Hop platform SB.TV had returned to his home in Acton after 4am after playing a set in north London before he sat up drinking with a friend, Nick Hopper, who was living in an annex of the house.

Mr. Hopper said that ‘he appeared to be his normal self’ and they ‘began to chat, smoke some weed and drink’ – but his famous friend then spoke about the pressure he was under.

After a while Mr. Edwards became erratic and paranoid and began throwing objects around the room before collapsing, the inquest was told. Despite the best efforts of Mr. Hopper and later his uncle, Rodney Artman, as well as paramedics, Mr. Edwards did not wake up and was declared dead at 10.36am on Sunday, February 20.

Mr. Hopper said in a statement read to the inquest by the coroner: ‘When he came in he appeared to be his normal self and it appeared that he had just been out.

‘We began to chat, smoke some weed, and drink. He told me he was under a lot of pressure. There were periods of talking followed by silences.

‘Over time Jamal became quite paranoid and was saying I had things in my hands when I didn’t. Anytime I moved he began panicking. I told him to calm down, but he became increasingly irate.

‘He was grabbing things, throwing them around the room. He was panicking and sweating, I spent ages trying to get him to open the door.’

Mr. Hopper said that he kept trying to open a window, but Mr Edwards wouldn’t let him and he eventually collapsed unconscious by the bathroom door.

After 9.30 am Mr. Edwards’s uncle arrived and he said he performed CPR for about 10 minutes until paramedics arrived and took over, but they were unable to resuscitate them.

The inquest heard that police treated the death as non-suspicious, but found three small snap bags with the remnants of white powder in Mr Edwards’s pocket.

Toxicology tests found cocaine and alcohol in his system, but no cannabis.

There was also MDMA in Mr Edwards’ urine but not blood, indicating that he had taken the drug recently – but not on the night of his death.

In a statement, Met Police Detective Sergeant Luke Taylor said: ‘There were no signs of trauma to either party.

‘Three small snap bags were found in his pocket with remnants of a white powder and bloody tissues, associated with the taking of Class A drugs.

‘He suffered a cardiac episode from taking recreational drugs and alcohol.’

Mr Edwards’s GP confirmed that while he had traits of sickle cell disease, he was not on any regular medication.

Summing up at West London Coroner’s Court, Mr Collett said: ‘He had worked as a DJ at a venue in Islington.

‘At around, 4.30am he arrived at home and joined his close friend.

‘They had some drinks and had arranged to smoke cannabis. Although he appeared normal at first his behaviour changed and he exhibited signs of anxiety, paranoia and irritation.

‘Despite his friend’s efforts to calm him down he began throwing things around the room before collapsing on the floor.

‘The police found drug paraphernalia, the toxicology tests found recent evidence of drug use.

‘The insinuation is that Jamal had taken cocaine in sufficient quantity to cause an adverse reaction brought about by cocaine toxicity. This then caused cardiac arrhythmia which resulted in his death.’

Instead of calling for justice that Mary “Banana” should face the same fate as Iris Kaingu faced they are saying it is okay – Antonio Mwanza

ABOLISH THE LAW ON PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF OBSCENE MATERIAL

….Mourinho urges Parliament adding that you can’t have a piece of legislation that is only applied against Iris Kaingu and not Mary “Banana”

LUSAKA, Tuesday, August 2, 2022 (SMART EAGLES)

GENUINE Efforts by the government to fight corruption will be supported, Patriotic Front (PF) party Media Director Antonio Mourinho Mwanza has said.

Mr Mwanza said the former ruling party will however NOT support a malicious campaign against the PF disguised in the fight against Corruption.

He said the interest of the current administration is to paint the PF black in the eyes of the people that they were corrupt.

“They are telling us that they are fighting corruption but there is no single person taken to court because of corruption. All we hear, is PF was corrupt, it was a story that is meant to paint pf black in the eyes of people,” he said.

And Mr Mwanza is perturbed by the propensity of the UPND to shift goal posts.

Commenting on viral obscene materials alleged to be that of DEC’s Mary Chirwa, Mourinho said it is alarming the manner in which the UPND are defending her.

“Instead of calling for justice that Mary “Banana” should face the same fate as Iris, Bobby and Mabumba faced they are saying it is okay. They are saying that it is okay that people tasked to enforce the law should break it…..the President has said that he put her in that office for a reason….,” he stated.

Mr Mwanza said he will therefore be writing to Parliament that the law on producing and distributing obscene materials should be abolished because it does not serve any purpose.

Meanwhile, Mr Mwanza said he will not stop speaking for the Zambian People despite receiving threats from some UPND Members.

He said the violent nature of the UPND will not reduce the cost of living or make fuel cheaper.

“The UPND want to lynch me, but I will not stop talking for the Zambian people. Obvious Mwaliteta has issued those threatening remarks. Even those issues of alleged treason, it is a way of trying guard me against talking,” he said.

And Mr Mwanza has challenged President Hichilema to state to the Zambian People the benefits his foreign trips have yielded so far.

“15 trips in 10 months, how much money are we losing, when the President moves, there are a lot of people who move. He can’t show any trip that has added value but it is just about playing with people’s minds! He went to South Africa to launch a book written by his friend on Tax payers money. Of what benefit is that? He recently went to Kenya to meet Uhuru; an outgoing President! He went to Eswatini to do what?”

Discussing Mining Tax Revenue With Dr. Fred M’membe- Alexander Nkosi

DISCUSSING MINING TAX REVENUE WITH DR. FRED M’MEMBE

By Alexander Nkosi

Zambia was once the highest producer of copper in Africa. However, it has not only fallen behind the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa but has also dropped to seventh in global ranking as of 2021. Recognising the need to increase copper production as prices are projected to remain high with the growth of the electric vehicle industry, the Zambian government has targeted to expand copper production from around 800,000 metric tonnes to 3 million metric tonnes in ten years. One of the key measures taken by government in 2022 is to make mineral royalties tax deductible when calculating Company Income Tax. This is expected to result in revenue loss of USD188 million (K3.2 billion)

One of the critics of changes made in the mining sector is Dr. Fred M’membe, who argues that tax breaks introduced in the mines in 2022 will result into a loss of USD3 billion (K51 billion). While every well meaning Zambian would love to see us get optimal benefits from the sector, it is also important for us to work with correct figures as we engage government. It would therefore be helpful if Dr. M’membe can demonstrate how he came up with the USD3 billion revenue loss.

According to Dr. M’membe, the current government has given tax breaks to the mines resulting in a revenue loss of USD3 billion. This implies that in the absence of these tax breaks in 2020 and 2021, our tax revenue from the mines should have been high. Let us look at these figures with a focus on Company Income Tax and Mineral Royalty Tax. In 2020 budget government targeted to collect total tax revenue of K53.7 billion, out of which Company Income Tax was K7.9 billion and Mineral Royalty Tax was K4.8 billion. In 2021 budget government targeted to collect a total tax revenue of K53.2 billion, out of which Company Income Tax was K9.1 billion and Mineral Royalty Tax was K5.7 billion. In 2022 budget government has targeted to collect total tax revenue of K77.9 billion, out of which Company Income Tax is K16.4 billion and Mineral Royalty Tax is K12.8 billion.

The average copper price for 2020 was USD 6174 per tonne, in 2021 it was USD 8313 and in 2022 it is projected to be between USD7500 and K9000. The anticipated global recession might push it down. Copper production is not expected to change that much in 2022 compared to the past two years. Given this analysis one would expect that in the past two years before the tax breaks Dr. M’membe is referring to, tax revenue and specifically Company Income Tax and Mineral Royalty Tax should have been very high such that a reduction should have been seen in 2022 with the introduction of the said tax breaks. Note that Company Income Tax includes mine and non-mine tax revenue components, so the actual mine tax component of the Company Income Tax is actually lower than the figures highlighted above.

According to Dr. M’membe, Zambia is losing K51 billion in tax breaks introduced in 2022 when total Company Income Tax and Mineral Royalty Tax for 2022 is K29.2 billion. To make matters worse, in 2021 when we didn’t have these tax breaks, total tax revenue from Company Income and Mineral Royalty Tax was K14.8 billion, shouldn’t it have been higher since we didn’t have tax breaks and there isn’t any significant difference in average copper prices between the two years going by anticipated drop in prices in the second half of 2022?

In conclusion, it would be good for Dr. M’membe to demonstrate how Zambia is losing USD3 billion (K51 billion) through tax breaks introduced in 2022. It would further be good for him to explain why revenue from the mines was so low in the previous years when we didn’t have those tax breaks depsite copper prices being high.

I also want us to maximise benefits from the mining sector, I want a clear roadmap on gold mining, Mopani, KCM and local participation. I also want government to clearly explain what we stand to benefit (quantitative targets in revenue, jobs and support business) from expansion in copper production. However, as we engage government it is good to work with correct figures, hence the reason I’m challenging Dr. M’membe to come out and explain.
