Biggest complainers are the stone throwers – Vernon Mwaanga

0

By Masuzyo Chakwe

THE biggest complainers are always the stone throwers who for some reason always seem to have the shortest memories, says Vernon Mwaanga.

Mwaanga said the observations and comments made by former Attorney General Musa Mwenye and many others on the now much publicised ‘hypocrisy’ remark by former president Edgar Lungu after the burial of former president Rupiah Banda were “indeed thought-provoking”.

“An Angolan proverb has a very apt saying that best describes this apparent ‘loss of memory’ for what one might have done to others in the past: ‘The one who throws the stone forgets; the one who is hit remembers forever’,” he said. “Is it not indeed intriguing when it is supposed to be the other way around…! But such is the paradox of life – the biggest complainers are always the stone throwers who for some reason always seem to have the shortest memories.”

Mwaanga said they often forget the very profound wisdom that was packaged in the old adage: “Do not forget what it is like to be a Sailor simply because you are now a Captain.”

He said when one becomes a captain, it was because they were once a sailor.

“But because we all know that no one remains a captain forever, we always strive to remember what it is like to be a sailor, because we will one day revert to that role. If and whenever we do forget, reality and society will strongly and quickly remind us. It is never wise to forget what this adage teaches us while we are still captain,” said Mwaanga.

After the burial of Banda last Friday, ZNBC journalist Franklin Tembo Jr had a brief interview with Lungu while he was leaving Embassy Park.

“If we learn to dialogue with one another as we have experienced during the days of mourning, probably we can get somewhere as a country. Dialogue, genuine dialogue between all of us. Those who were in government before, and those who are in now. But what we are seeing is hypocrisy,” said Lungu. “Where people say good things and then do bad things. And if we can expunge the hypocrisy from our lives and just say it as it is, between now and embarking into the future, it’s a lesson we are learning from Rupiah Banda’s legacy. People have said a lot of good things. May those good things become part of us.”

Higher education sector under President Lungu (2015 2021)

Higher education sector under President Lungu (2015 2021)

We are so happy that our former President Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu wants us to be honest with each other as a nation and begin to tell it as it was. We gladly welcome this sincere life that Mr. Lungu is espousing. This will definitely bring about true reconciliation and peace.

In doing so, with sincerity and purity of heart and mind, we reflect on Mr. Lungu’s performance sector by sector. I take on the higher education sector under Mr. Lungu’s presidency as other people would review other sectors. The following review applies to the higher education sector:

  1. In government colleges and universities promotions were based on political patronage. Interviews for promotions and appointments were merely academic exercises as what counted the most was one’s tribe and connection to the former ruling party.
  2. Polarization of scholarship and loans award- increasingly, one needed political connections to access scholarships for overseas studies. It is not surprising to note that those students studying in Russia, Ukraine, Morocco, Cuba, United Kingdom, and Australia are mostly connected to former PF officials.
  3. Retiring of lecturers in national and public interest- lecturers in government colleges perceived to be sympathizers of the opposition UPND were selectively punished through retirement in national and public interest. Many of them their only crime was their tribe.
  4. Scrapping off of student meal allowances- at the height of student protests arising from delayed meal allowances, PF decided to scrap of student meal allowances. This decision was not made in public interest but rather in the interest of the party as it struggled to meet it’s obligations at the peak of swelling domestic and foreign debt.
  5. Students’ unions were banned – in a rather autocratic tendency, the PF could not contend divergent views. They lived a false life and glorified self praise. Any opposing voices mercilessly dealt with. It remains a Shane that even students unions were perceived to be a threat to the PF hold of power, hence the illegal move to outlaw students unions in public universities.
  6. Deregistration of the University of University of Zambia Researchers and Lecturers Union( UNZALARU)- the union found itself battling for it’s survival during the whole of Mr. Lungu’s presidency. It’s deregistration was only reversed by the court. Under the PF, UNZALARU was seen as a dangerous grouping that could sway public opinion against the PF. Thus it was undesirable as it threatened the PF hold to power.
  7. Increased cases of students being expelled- shockingly, under the PF everyone was expected to be a PF member or sympathizer. The party operated more or less like it was in a one party rule. Students’ freedoms of association and assembly were curtailed. Those students found associating themselves with the opposition UPND suffered several forms of mistreatment such as termination of Bursary/loan contracts and/or expulsion from school. As I write, my heart is with Lishebo Lisimba, Longpath Chakaya, Iñutu Kabika, Tobias Kapanga, Inonge Milensu, Kennedy Mokomani, Obert Shapande, Milimo Hambulo, Sitwala Mukubesa, Chrisencia Zulu, and Regan Mweemba who were expelled from from UNZA, CBU, Evelyn Hone College, and Mulungushi University on grounds that they were UPND (disguised as inciting riotous behaviour).
  8. Brutal use of force on students- it was a new trend under Mr. Lungu’s PF to apply disproportionate force on students every time they protested. Live ammunition were used with restrain and several students suffered bullet wounds from police shootings. In unfortunate circumstances, deaths were even recorded.
  9. Politicization of the higher education sector. The higher education sector became highly politicized to an extent that appointment to management positions in the Ministry of Higher Education, public universities, colleges and across agencies in this sector became hugely influenced and decided by the PF. Justifiably so, the PF manifesto required that all heads of such institutions were uncompromising members of the PF. Besides, decisions by technocrats in the Ministry of Higher Education became so partisan as they were made in the interest of the PF and not in the best interest of the country.
  10. Loss of academic freedoms. The insecurities of the PF saw academics fail to express themselves for fear of retribution. Those that were brave enough to speak their mind or publish what was perceived to be threatening the PF’s hold to power were severely scathed by the PF and their agents. The climax of this degeneration of academic freedoms was experienced when a renowned political historian Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa observed that the PF had deeply divided the country to near civil war and that victory by the PF could just lead the country into turmoil. Dr. Sishuwa was attacked from all corners by the PF and their agents who dragged him to court. His life was threatened and his job too as UNZA management fell into the political gallery. Not to forget that he was even accused of treason by the former Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba.
  11. Fights between the Minister of Higher Education and Lecturers/students – never before in the history of our country had we recorded such a fierce relationship between the Minister of Education and the students/ Lecturers. The animosity that existed between Prof. Nkandu Luo and the Lecturers in universities and colleges as well as students caused national anxiety. It was a relationship of a cat and a mouse. Her anger towards students and Lecturers was always let out whenever she spoke. Her venom manifested in repeated closures and the ultimate scrapping off of meal student allowances. The nation is still shocked that President Lungu settled on Prof. Luo as his running mate in the August 2021 election. With that choice, we can safely say that the PF had a scary plan for the higher education sector!

Shall the others take on the other sectors and tell it as it was in the spirit of healing the nation. Let’s end hypocrisy!

ZLDC did not propose to legalize Bigamy and Abortion- Chishala Kateka

THE NEED TO COUNTER-CHECK ISSUES BEFORE COMMENTING

By Chishala Kateka, President of the New Heritage Party

Dear Friends, we continue to share our thoughts on issues affecting us.

Now that the dust appears to have settled over Zambia Law Development Commission’s recommendations on the review of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and the Criminal Procedure Code Act, Chapter 88 of the Laws of Zambia, some aspects of which caused a lot of dust, we would like to send a word of serious caution to fellow Zambians, especially to those in leadership positions, to be very careful with how we comment on important matters that are likely, one way or another, to affect the general public or manipulate their opinions.

When the Zambia Law Development Commission (ZLDC) handed over the review report to the Minister of Justice on 15th February, 2022 containing proposed changes to and harmonization of certain laws, the areas that received the most interest had to do with Bigamy, Polygamy and Abortion.

In the immediate aftermath to the Report launch, we heard mostly from well-established men and women of God together with some political leaders, offering their opinions against what they purported to be manouevres to “change the laws so as to make Bigamy not punishable by the law” as well as “legalizing abortion”.

Much was also said against “changing our laws to accommodate polygamy” in our statutes. They espoused such moves were contrary to our standing as a Christian Nation; that they would tend to legitimize and worsen sexual immorality while opening doors for future changes to our laws that would likely accommodate gayism and other abominations.

As the New Heritage Party, we are compelled to express our disappointment and voice out our concerns as to how our clergy as well as some political leaders handled this whole matter of the ZLDC Report for the following reasons:

  • [x] their reactions were unresearched and therefore based on hearsay; and
  • [x] their statements ended up being unduly alarmist in nature because in no way were the ZLDC proposing to legalize Bigamy and Abortion.

It is our well-guarded view that those clergy and politicians who commented could have done well to first read the report, which is in the public domain and can easily be accessed, in order to appreciate the specific findings and recommendations, or to meet with the ZLDC and get the correct picture of what was being proposed, the background and the justification.

This is what we did as New Heritage Party and must hasten to laud the ZLDC for availing us a full and very cordial audience where all these and other matters pertaining to the exercise they had undertaken and its subsequent Report were clearly explained, thereby exposing the many inaccuracies and ultimately unfairness of the criticism directed at them.

The important lessons from this sad occurrence (sad because some people have not had the privilege of hearing the rebuttals of the accusations labeled against ZLDC and will still hold the inaccurate information as the status quo) are:

(i) that those of us who are opinion makers and will most likely make news headlines must ensure to verify all matters on which we comment for truth and accuracy; and

(ii) that we should never be in haste to offer our opinions lest we base our comments on hearsay and mislead people when we have the capacity to countercheck matters to ensure our guidance is as accurate as it is needed to be.

The Book of James, in Chapter 1 verse 19 advises us all to “be quick to hear (and) slow to speak…”!

Our advice as above applies to all opinion makers including traditional rulers, politicians, and civil society organizations. In a country that is badly polarized on the basis of many worrisome considerations like ethnicity, regionalism, politics, religion, and even gender, we all need to guard against quickfire reactions, and subsequently issuing unresearched comments as these can, in the end, be the little matchstick that lights a fire big enough to consume our entire nation.

UPND WILL NOT BE DISTRACTED BY CRY BABIES – IMENDA

UPND WILL NOT BE DISTRACTED BY CRY BABIES – IMENDA

The Bemba speaking people have a powerful adage which says Ulelila tabamucheba pakanwa The UPND wishes to advise Zambians to look at the lamentations of the defeated PF with this adage in mind because the party wants to blame everyone and not themselves for their electoral defeat courtesy of the people of Zambia.

We have noticed some reckless statements coming from the rank and file of the PF against the UPND led government with their Secretary General Hon Nickson Chilangwa freely convening a women’s conference in Ndola to disparage the UPND and its leadership in government.

How can the PF today insult the intelligence of Zambians who democratically elected the UPND into office by insinuating that the then opposition political corrupted its way into government.

Who doesn’t know how much the PF attempted to manipulate the elections from the imbalance in the NRCs issuance to suppression of voters registration in certain regions of our country?

While we agree that the PF has the right to cry and lament,we urge them not to remind the Zambians of their brutal and dictatorial regime at the time when the citizenry are getting used to freedoms under the UPND.

We urge the PF to remain grateful and thank the Head of State President Hakainde Hichilema who has provided a peaceful environment for them to be freely assembling and continue mourning their loss, an opportunity which they never accorded others.

During the brutal PF rule, that whole venue for yesterday’s meeting in Ndola would have been a war zone raining teargas with the leaders locked up in police custody for more than a week without a charge.

Unfortunately this is the freedom the PF leadership is now abusing to the extent of insulting and demeaning the Head of State in their forums.

It is however gratifying to note and assure the nation which include PF leaders that the UPND led government will not sink so low as to reduce the space for free thinkers but will allow people such as Hon Chilangwa and Nakacinda to freely express themselves as it is their democratic right.

Ours is to continue and concentrate on the development agenda as espoused in our manifesto because that is what Zambians expect us to do between now and 2026.

We shall not let you down. For those still want to mourn,we have invoked Constitutional provisions of part three which guarantees you freedoms to assemble and freely express. For us it is still Zambia Forward.

On 18th March I Clocked 1 Year Since I Publicly Declared My Hiv Status

0

ON 18th MARCH I CLOCKED 1 YEAR SINCE I PUBLICLY DECLARED MY HIV STATUS…

It’s really a good experience to be public with my status so far.

On 18th March 2021, I made a bold move to go public with my status. It all started with this caption;
“Am HIV positive and not ashamed of myself.

ISayNoToStigmatisation

ISayNoToDiscrimination

TeamNoShameBeingHiv+

If you are not infected then you are affected. Together we can. “
From the time I started talking about my status publicly, I have received a lot of messages from different people both negative and positive messages. HIV Stigma and discrimination is REAL. I have experienced it the time I decided to go public. And hey both positive and negative comments and messages they made me strong and made me to realize that people still lack knowledge about HIV, so I won’t stop talking about no matter how bad things you say! Actually you will just waste your time sending me a negative comment or message, I accepted myself. HIV is part of me and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I have improved so much from the time I started talking about my HIV status public, I never used to do public speaking (I was so shy🙈) now ka nsoni kalipwa. I can now talk to people without being shy. I have learnt so much this same period. I learnt how to handle different cases, am able to give mental and emotional support to my friends out there. Not to forget, I have made and met a lot of people who appreciates my work.

The most challenging and fun part shosho media😂😂
Social media has different people, these people can talk all kinds of things 😂I have come to understand that, the most broken people are the ones who will always want to break others. They always find comedy out of things which are hurtful and painful to others. Making fun of serious situations. When mocking someone, it’s not only the victim who is going to be hurt, they might be someone following your comment in the same situation and they can’t handle it. I’ll appreciate if the negative messages are sent directly to me, this way that someone going through the same situation won’t see them and it won’t break them. That way you will protect their mental health. 😊

If you are HIV positive and reading this, please take your medicine, people will always talk and they won’t stop. Those same people talking bad about HIV they’re the same people who will say, why were you not taking your meds when things go bad for you. Don’t listen to people, do things for YOU!!

Biden administration to declare that Myanmar’s years-long repression of the Rohingya Muslim population is a ‘genocide’

0

The Biden administration will formally declare that the Myanmar army has committed genocide against its Rohingya Muslim population, US officials said.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken plans to make the long-anticipated designation on Monday at an event at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, according to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

‘It’s going to make it harder for them to commit further abuses,’ one senior State Department official told Reuters.

Blinken will also announce $1 million of additional funding for the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM), a United Nations body based in Geneva that is gathering evidence for potential future prosecutions.

‘It’s going to enhance our position as we try to build international support to try to prevent further atrocities and hold those accountable,’ another US official said.

However, the measure could lead to additional international pressure on the government, which is already facing accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.

Human rights groups and lawmakers had been pressing both the Trump and Biden administrations to make the designation.

Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon, welcomed the anticipated step, as did the advocacy organization Refugees International.

‘I applaud the Biden administration for finally recognizing the atrocities committed against the Rohingya as genocide,’ Merkley said in a statement.

On Monday, Blinken will tour an exhibit entitled ‘Burma’s Path to Genocide.’ Myanmar is also known as Burma.

‘While this determination is long overdue, it is nevertheless a powerful and critically important step in holding this brutal regime to account,’ Merkley added.

‘Such processes must always be carried out objectively, consistently, and in a way that transcends geopolitical considerations.’

The humanitarian group Refugees International also praised the move.

‘The US genocide declaration is a welcome and profoundly meaningful step,’ the group said in a statement.

‘It is also a solid sign of commitment to justice for all the people who continue to face abuses by the military junta to this very today.’

Merkley called on the administration to continue the pressure campaign on Myanmar by imposing additional sanctions on the government to include its oil and gas sectors.

‘America must lead the world to make it clear that atrocities like these will never be allowed to be buried unnoticed, no matter where they occur,’ he said.

Myanmar’s armed forces launched a military operation in 2017 that forced at least 730,000 of the mainly Muslim Rohingya from their homes and into neighboring Bangladesh, where they recounted killings, mass rape, and arson.

US officials and an outside law firm gathered evidence in an effort to acknowledge quickly the seriousness of the atrocities, but then Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declined to make a determination.

In 2021, Myanmar’s military seized power in a coup.

Blinken ordered his own ‘legal and factual analysis,’ a US said on condition of anonymity.

The analysis concluded the Myanmar army is committing genocide and Washington believes the formal determination will increase international pressure to hold the junta accountable.

Myanmar’s military has denied committing genocide against the Rohingya, who are denied citizenship in Myanmar, and said it was conducting an operation against terrorists in 2017.

If negotiation between I and Putin fails, that would mean that this is a third World War.” – Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is ready to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but warned that if any negotiation attempts fail, it could mean the fight between the two countries would lead to “a third World War.”

Russia and Ukraine have been engaged in a war on Ukranian soil since February 24, with Russian president Vladimir Putin claiming he wants to De-nazify and demilitarize Ukraine… Ukraine meanwhile has staunchly been defending it’s territory with Russia’s advance said to be at a halt leading the Russian forces to indiscriminately attack civilian homes, schools and hospitals.

“I’m ready for negotiations with him. I was ready for the last two years. And I think that without negotiations, we cannot end this war,” Zelensky told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria in an exclusive interview Sunday, March 20.

On the negotiations, Zelenksy said, “if these attempts fail, that would mean that this is a third World War.”

Zelensky was asked about Putin’s claims that the Ukrainian government is full of neo-Nazis.

He said that he cannot take these statements by Putin “seriously” and called it “laughable.”

Zelensky added that Putin is in an information bubble but he noted that remarks like this from the Russian president worry him about what he is capable of.

“I’m not afraid of anything except for people, but the fact — the fact is that if he is serious about this statement he might be capable of very horrendous steps because that would mean that this is not a game for him.”

Zelensky said that if his country had been admitted into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization alliance earlier, then Russia would not have invaded the country.

“If we were a NATO member, a war wouldn’t have started. I’d like to receive security guarantees for my country, for my people,” Zelensky said adding that he was grateful for the aid NATO has provided since the invasion began.

“If NATO members are ready to see us in the alliance, then do it immediately because people are dying on a daily basis.”

More than 900 civilians have been killed with over 2million fleeing the country since the invasion began, the United Nation says.

A Gathering of Hypocrites

0

By Godfrey Chitalu
HELD at the center of the village, sitting on a hill, the “After Burial” or Isambo Lyamfwa was a somber ceremony open to anyone who opted to attend. By dawn, thousands had gathered around the venue waiting for their turn.

Since the deceased was a renowned truthful king, only those who passed a rigorous lie detector and hypocrisy test and truthfully answered questions were allowed inside by specially selected village elders.

A lanky humble figure presented himself with an introduction that he was the undisputed previous Induna who should be given the first chance.

He was asked a simple question whether he was tall or short to which he replied that he was actually the shortest in his family. Questions on how he had managed the previous village economy and his militant youth wing kept popping up. For reasons best known to the elders, he was denied entry.

At that same moment, a bespectacled woman mesmerized her way to the front. She insisted that she was in charge of all health facilities in the village and beyond. The elders asked her about the 11200 traditional birth attendants waiting to be employed.

They asked why the advert was overtaken by non-medical staff like cleaners and drivers. They also quizzed her on why it had taken more than six months to deliver medical supplies to all the villagers.

Unfortunately based on her answers she was also denied entry despite her mumbled protestations.

As the crowd started protesting about the slow process, a seemingly educated Induna thrust his big body to the front. He was greeted with a question; what do you know about the yet-to-be-employed 30,000 village teachers?

The perplexed Induna opted to remain quiet. He has quietly whisked away and told he stood no chance of attending the Isambo Lyamfwa.
It was almost dusk when one wise old man in charge of roads insisted to be interviewed. He was asked to state the difference between a viable and non-viable road. It looked like he was not expecting this question but had prepared on the cost estimates.

By saying he didn’t know the difference, he denied himself entry into the main arena. Even the potbellied Induna who failed to answer truthfully the calculations on the cost of fertilizer was thrown out!

As it transitioned from dusk to pitch darkness, none of the people interviewed had managed to convince the council of elders. Worried that the after burial might not take place; a call was made for common people to come forward.
To say there was almost a stampede was an understatement. The council of elders now had to use a megaphone to ask only two questions. Did the past Induna meet your expectations?

Is the present Induna meeting your expectations? The crowd answered in unison a deafening – NO! That is how all commoners were allowed to take part in the Isambo Lyamfwa.

As for the resolutions of the meeting, I can’t say anything because I was also not allowed to take part. I remained outside mingling with other hypocrites.

They Want To Give The Mine To Vedanta- Nakacinda

THEY WANT TO GIVE THE MINE TO VEDANTA-NAKACINDA

KCM PROVISIONAL LIQUIDATOR MILINGO LUNGU WAS FORCED TO RESIGN BY THE UPND GOVT – NAKACINDA

…. In a bid to bring back Vendetta who made the people on the Copperbelt suffer.

Ndola, Monday, 21 March, 2022 (Smart Eagles)

Patriotic Front Information and Publicity Chairperson Hon Raphael Nakacinda says Konkola Copper Mines Provisional liquidator Milingo Lungu was forced to resign from his position by the UPND Government.

According to Mr Milingo Lungu’s letter of resignation dated 17th March, no reason was cited for his resignation.

Speaking yesterday during the launch of the PF copperbelt women Movement, Hon Nakacinda alleged that the resignation has been induced by the UPND Administration in a bid to bring back Vedanta to start running the mines.

He advised the women on the Copperbelt to stand firm and denounce the intentions by Government to bring back the investors who made the people suffer.

Hon Nakacinda said the Zambian people are already facing difficulties under the UPND Administration due to the high cost of living and would be subjected to more suffering once KCM is given to Vedanta.

“Naumfwa ati Milingo nachita resign, Ulya Milingo nabamutitikisha nabamuchusha kuti achite resign so that alete ba bululu shakwe, so that they give the Mines to those (Vedanta) who financed their campaigns. Nomba te corruption iyo?,” he said.

Hon Nakacinda has described the current administration as being the weakest Government to have ever ruled Zambia.

“The reason this Government is persecuting Patriotic Front members is because they do not have what to tell the people of Zambia. He is telling lies that the PF destroyed the country. Are you telling me that the infrastructure we built is destruction,” he stated.

Hon Nakacinda said the Zambian people are looking up to the PF for views that represent the people.

He has encouraged the women not to pay attention to paid bloggers who spend their time insulting Patriotic Front Leaders and Former Head of State Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

LUNGU TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE…instead of thank you, we’re treated to arrogance – Musa Mwenye

LUNGU TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE

…instead of thank you, we’re treated to arrogance – Mwenye

By Staff Reporter(Mast Newspaper)

FORMER Attorney General Musa Mwenye says former president Edgar Lungu’s hypocrisy statement was completely irresponsible and is a stark reminder of the arrogance Zambians were subjected to during his time in power.

On Friday, in an interview with ZNBC soon after Rupiah Banda’s burial at Embassy Park, Lungu called for dialogue without hypocrisy.

Reacting to Lungu’s statement, Mwenye wondered if former presidents have people who advise them.

“The word ‘hypocrisy’ is trending today for all the wrong reasons! Do former presidents have people who advise them? After being accorded the kindness and consideration one never accorded others, instead of ‘thank you’ we are treated to the arrogance we were served for seven years,” he noted in a Facebook posting.

He said President Hakainde Hichilema had shown a lot of magnanimity during the funeral of late Banda and those in the UPND government “have treated former PF leaders better than they treated them or would have treated them had they won”.

“They must be commended for facilitating an all-inclusive and dignified send off for our late former president. It was therefore disheartening to hear former president Lungu say what he said. More disappointing was the fact that he said it at a time we are mourning the former president,” said Mwenye.

“Instead of honouring the man he called his brother, we are now forced to focus on his unfortunate words. With due respect to former president Lungu, that was completely irresponsible and is a stark reminder of the arrogance we were subjected to during his time in power.”

Did you know that veteran politician Sikota Wina disappeared from his ministerial duties for several days until Kaunda used the intelligence wing to locate him?

0

FUN FACT

Did you know that veteran politician Sikota Wina, at the height of his romance with Princess Nakatindi in the early 1970s disappeared from his ministerial duties for several days until Dr Kenneth Kaunda used the intelligence wing to locate him?

(For details, follow the excerpt below from Conversations with Memorable Personalities)

Amos Malupenga:

Some of your old friends tell me that it is true that you used to be very popular among women and that one time you disappeared from Dr Kaunda when you were still minister. Dr Kaunda was busy looking for you because you just disappeared without getting permission. I am told he failed to locate you until he asked officers from the intelligence to find you and they located you at Lusaka Hotel with the lady who is now your wife…

Sikota Wina:

(He laughed and said:) No, it was Victoria Hotel. It is now called Fairview Hotel. That was the time when our romance was at its highest.

You know President Kaunda liked me a lot and I regard him as a parent. When I married, I went humbly to request him to be the guest of honour. He was very happy to do that and he came to the Mulungushi International Conference Centre and sent the crowd rolling when he advised me publicly that from now on, ‘no more breasts’.

But I nearly had a big difference with him because after my wedding, I took my wife to Lealui to the Litunga to report this marriage and for me to get my proper title as the Prince Consort.
That can only be conferred upon me by the Litunga himself. That took us another week. From there we went to our home in Sesheke for another feast. From there we went to my original home at Namboma. This took about one month, going from one ceremony to another ceremony.

In the meantime, Dr Kaunda was looking for me because we had a national council coming and he liked me to be near him because I used to bring in a lot of ideas. So he left a message here [at his house] and a government flight that immediately I come back from what he called ‘gallivanting’, I must be told to catch that plane and follow him to Mfuwe where he went on holiday to prepare for the national council.

When I arrived here [his house], I was told by the security people that you have to leave immediately. So I flew to Mfuwe and when I arrived I found him standing in the doorway and he was angry. He told me ‘you are not the first one to get married. Where have you been, in the mean time the nation has been looking for you. What’s wrong with you? Don’t you know there is a job to be done?’

You know when Kenneth Kaunda got angry he literally got angry and there I was facing him. Afterwards, he kept quiet for some minutes just looking at me until he got over it. He was like that. He is a short tempered man but over the years he managed to control his temper. I don’t know how he managed to do that.
After a few minutes it went off and he said ‘get in’. So I got into the lodge and he said ‘breakfast young man?’ I said ‘no Sir I had breakfast before I came’.

He said ‘alright what can you tell me?’ I said ‘no Sir according to the way I was brought up in our tradition, when a father is angry you don’t reply. So I am going to write a letter to reply’. He said ‘you will excuse me, I am angry because I value you. If I don’t value you, I wouldn’t be wasting my breath. So I am not angry for nothing’.

That was Dr. Kaunda. He had a lot of time for me, and I learnt a lot from him. That’s why when his son Wezi was shot dead, despite the word that went round to all MMD leaders that they should not attend the funeral, my wife and I, without even a second thought, just drove to Kenneth Kaunda’s house and entered the crowd. Dr. Kaunda just hugged me and the crowd started crying. This was a bond between us irrespective of what happened later on.

Elite Russian officers want to poison Putin and replace him with a chosen successor to restore trade ties with West, Ukrainian intelligence officials claim

0

Russian allegedly has a plot to ‘poison’ Vladimir Putin and instil a successor who will restore trade ties with the West, according to Ukrainian intelligence.

According to Ukraine’s Chief Directorate of Intelligence at the war-torn country’s Ministry of Defence, a ‘group of influential’ individuals in Russia have begun plotting to remove the dictator from office.

The Ukrainian intelligence service says that FSB director Oleksandr Bortnikov is the chosen man to replace Putin, leading the agency which the successor to the fearsome KGB.

Putin was the director of the Russian intelligence agency before he took the mantle of President and he and Bortnikov both served in the KGB together in Leningrad.

The insiders are reportedly incensed by the invasion of Ukraine’s effect on the Russian economy which has been hard-hit by sanctions.

The Chief Directorate of Intelligence said: ‘It is known that Bortnikov and some other influential representatives of the Russian elite are considering various options to remove Putin from power.

‘In particular, poisoning, sudden disease, or any other ‘coincidence’ is not excluded.’

Bortnikov has fallen out of favour with Putin after military losses in the first three weeks of the Ukraine war – in which time he has also sacked eight generals.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia has lost an estimated 15,000 troops in Ukraine.

One Ukrainian intelligence source said recently: ‘It is noteworthy that Bortnikov has recently been disgraced by the Russian dictator.

‘The official reason for the disgrace of the FSB leader is the fatal miscalculations in the war against Ukraine.

‘Bortnikov and his department were responsible for analyzing the mood of Ukraine and the ability of the Ukrainian army.’

Bortnikov is believed to have a network of insiders working and living within Ukraine, where he ran a network of agents for many years.

A western source told the Daily Mirror: ‘These rumours and suspicions within the Moscow inner-circle will sow the seeds of paranoia and doubt in the leadership.

There is no doubt that as the Russian elite feel the pinch of sanctions that they will be looking at the future with an eye on what a catastrophe this war is for them – and it’s going to get worse.

‘There is a significant suspicion that a small number of people might actually now try to get rid of the Russian President but whether they will succeed remains to be seen.

‘Certainly, they are being given an awful lot of encouragement by various influential figures in the west and the feeling amongst most people is that enough is enough.

‘Crucially, although Ukraine has suffered immensely from this invasion it has wrong-footed Russia’s military at every step, predicting their military moves and crippling their forces.

‘It is very possible that somebody has been leaking information and given every bit of encouragement to do so- perhaps with an offer of a future in the west or even in Russia itself.’

HICHILEMA WON ELECTIONS THROUGH LIES- CHILANGWA

says Zambia is in problems because the UPND won the elections through deceit and President Hichilema should apologize to Zambians for failure to honor his campaign promises.

Ndola … Sunday, 20 March, 2022 (Smart Eagles)

PF acting Secretary General Hon. Nickson Chilangwa says Zambians should worry because they have a President who assumed power through deceit.

Speaking in Ndola at the launch of the Copperbelt womens movement, Hon. Chilangwa said the UPND never won August 2021 elections genuinely but they were helped to rig.

He said the PF is fully aware of the tactics and people who helped the UPND to rig the elections.

” UPND never won the elections genuinely and we know the people who helped them rig elections, they think we are fools. We know their tactics. UPND are liars. Zambians should worry because the President assumed office through lies,” Hon. Chilangwa said.

” Zambians are in problems because of deceit by President Hichilema and the UPND. UPND has failed to run the country and they should call for early elections so that they test their popularity since they claim to have the so called 2.8 million voters,” he said.

And Hon. Chilangwa, the Kawambwa Central lawmaker said there is nothing to admire in the UPND.

He said President Hichilema promised heaven on earth but nothing seems to be working.

” President Hichilema should go back to the people and apologize. He said the cost of living will come down but things are getting worse and he knows Zambians won’t give him another mandate that’s why he is even failing to move into State House ” Hon. Chilangwa said.

Meanwhile, Hon. Chilangwa urged PF members not to get tired but ensure the continued organization of the party.

” We have a duty to organize the party. I want to commend the PF on the Copperbelt for the discipline, there has been no insults not even from the youth’s,” Hon Chilangwa said.

PF WILL BOUNCE BACK TO POWER IN 2026 – KAMPAMBA MULENGA

0

… The party leadership made a good decision appointing Hon Mulenga as Women Chairperson says MCC Nakacinda.

Ndola, Sunday, 20 MARCH, 2022 (Smart Eagles).

Patriotic Front (PF) National Chairperson for women Hon Kampamba Mulenga has implored women to remain United if the party is to bounce back in Power.

Hon Kampamba said one of the reasons the party failed to safeguard the August 12 election which was allegedly stolen is because of lack of unity and division.

She has since asked the women on the Copperbelt to work with leaders and candidates who will be chosen by the party leadership in future elections.

Hon Kampamba was speaking during the Launch of the Copperbelt PF women’s movement at the New Copperbelt Province Head Quarters in Ndola today.

She said the women movement should be strong and work hard to ensure that there is change of Government in 2026.

Hon Kampamba said people will die of hunger if the government is not changed in four years time.

“The cost of living has skyrocketed beyond imaginable levels. The PF used to take good care of the Zambian people. When you go at the hospital, there are no medicines instead of sorting out the problem, the President is just busy travelling around the world

And Hon Kampampa said the PF is still strong and intact as can be seen from lack of defections from the PF to other political parties.

“This is the first time in the History of elections that we have seen a party that lose power not losing members through defections. If you see a person defecting, just know that there were not PF from the word go. As women in the party, we are asking for your support as leaders in the party,” She said.

Speaking at the same event, PF acting Secretary General Hon Nickson Chilangwa applauded the PF women on the Copperbelt for maintaining discipline and Unity

Hon Chilangwa has however Challenged the UPND to call for early elections because they have failed to run the country.

Meanwhile, PF Information and Publicity Chairperson Hon Raphael Nakacinda urged the women to ignore bloggers who are paid on social media to insult PF leaders.

Hon Nakacinda said the entire country is looking up to the PF to speak for them hence the need not to be swayed by social media keypad warriors.

“Do not pay attention to people who are insulting party leaders. They are paid to insult former President Edgar Lungu, they are paid to insult Hon Given Lubinda , even ba National Women Chairperson nabena balabatuka. So mwibikako amino balabalipila

So Mukose, there is need to replicate meetings of such nature countrywide.. Tulelolesha pali 2026. The party leadership made a good decision appointing Hon Mulenga as Women Chairperson,” he said.

Crying Russian soldiers turn on Putin and urge their people to rise up against him

0

Russian troops who have been captured by Ukrainian forces have urged their people to rise up against President Vladmir Putin as they tell the world of fellow soldiers being thrown in mass graves.

A group of Russian soldiers spoke out against their government during a press conference with news agency Interfax-Ukraine, telling fellow citizens to not ‘look at the zombies.’

Alexei Zheleznyak, Mustafaev Mugsad, Igor Rudenko, Alexander Fomenko and others nearly wept as they told the press conference of their opposition to the Russian invasion, according to The Mirror.

He added that Putin ‘is a liar and a deceiver of all our people.’

‘Putin, without declaring war, is bombing residents, hospitals, cities of Ukraine,’ he said, according to translations of the conference.

‘People of Russia, don’t look at the zombies. The Ukrainian people are a brave people. They will stop this (Russian) equipment even without weapons. They are united.

‘No matter how much Putin sends his troops here, he will not capture this territory… Our commander-in-chief is a liar and a deceiver of all our people.

‘He deceived not only us, but the whole of Russia. He simply made fascists out of us.’

Mr Mugsad, of the 34th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Russian Federation, also urged Russian citizens to ignore state propaganda in their home country.

‘People will remember our aggression for centuries,’ he said.

‘People, military men of Russia, finally take off your rose-coloured glasses and see what is happening in Ukraine.’

He also apologised that ‘the troops of the Russian Federation brought grief and destruction, in one day crossing out the peaceful life of the Ukrainian people.’

Mr Rudenko, signalman of the 126th separate coastal defense brigade of the Russian Federation, said the Russian troops had already lost and that the Ukrainian military would ‘destroy’ them.

He claimed that 15,000 have already died in the conflict, which began nearly one month ago.

Official estimates, however, put the figure of causalities much lower.

‘If you (the Russian army) have the honour remaining, do not repeat my mistakes,’ he said.

‘Take the troops away, because Putin does not need us. He does not even take the corpses. They are thrown into mass graves. It’s hard to see.’

Commander of the automobile department of the 126th separate coastal defence brigade , Mr Fomenko, appealed to his fellow citizens to protest the ongoing conflict.

‘Do not be afraid of our government,’ he said. ‘They will not trample on the crowd. Yes, they will detain 10,00-20,000 people, but there are more of you.

‘You can go out and stop this chaos. Peaceful people suffer here, children.’

Russia is yet to respond to the press conference, which follows on from videos of captured soldiers expressing their regret over the invasion.

The conditions the soldiers were under when they appeared at the conference are not clear, and it is not certain whether they were forced or coerced to speak out against the Kremlin.  – Daily Mail

‘You are just an immature young man’ – Nevers Mumba tells Chanoda Ngwira

0

By Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba
So, arising from my post yesterday ( which a lot of PF leaning readers chose to misunderstand), there’s been some backclash on social media. One such case is where a gentleman called Chanoda Ngwira has gone to town issuing careless comments and statements both on my own wall and all over social media.

I have one simple response to Chanoda, and plenty folk like him:

DEAR MR. CHANODA NGWIRA.

There is a very good reason that women, for a very long time avoided being in the public eye and in particular, they never sought political office. It is the very reason that most believers, or people that come from resectable professional backgrounds avoided getting into the public eye.

It is because of the spurious and callous disregard most politicians have for others, and the blatant use of lies, insults and cheap tactics of intimidation and threats, and where possible, blackmail to try and break the resolve of those that may think differently. All these tools, are firmly at your disposal Mr. Chanoda Frackson Ngwira.

Just remember that you are too late!

Too late to break the resolve of somebody that has been to the top of the mountain and come back…
Too late to intimidate someone that has stood up to people more powerful that you can ever imagine…
Too late to take away a resolve that is anchored in four simple words, Zambia Shall Be Saved.

I neither cower from, nor get moved by, your type of politics.

I have been to prison, been tear-gassed, have climbed walls escaping gunshots, been to over twenty Police Stations and all the levels of our Courts/Legal system over a span of time, all in the pursuit of Justice and a better Zambia for all.

There is nothing I see in you apart from a disgruntled, over compensated, immature young man, who dares to threaten someone as good as his own father, just because the source of his ill gotten wealth is under threat.

Ba Chanoda, muyi cheme!

Your threats mean nothing to me. I Fear God only, not man. And if God says I should advise President Lungu, or President Hichilema I do it without skipping a beat.

I know you very well Mr. Chanoda Ngwira and I know who you work with and the interests you are protecting from the truth.

I have an entire body of believers behind me, and while they may not be as loud as you are, they remain firm and resolved in their defence of what is right, I can assure you, TAKE OUT NEVERS MUMBA today, and you will have a million other ZAMBIANS of a moral character to take up my place. Zambia shall never again allow itself to be presided upon by a regime as brutal, careless and destructive as what you and your paymasters showed.

IYO INSHITA, YALIPWA. It is really, a New Dawn!

Peter Mutharika itches for Malawi’s 2025 presidential bid

0

Despite his old age to lead the party ahead of 2025 general elections, Former President Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed his comment to stand as a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)’s Presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2025 General Elections.

Multiple sources within the party have confirmed that the aging leader is now clinging to the party throne, apparently discrediting other aspirants.

One source who is the party’s front members confirmed to the press that Mutharika is ready to run and appear on the Ballot Paper in 2025.

” The former president is itching to be on the Ballot paper in 205 and he says he is very ready to run. But he prepares, other aspirants feel dejected.

The plan is that in 2023, the president will announce his intention to stand and will justify his decision by saying the party has resolved that he is endorsed. He will rebuke all other aspirants fueling leadership crisis over the years,” he said.

The source went on to reveal that Mutharika’s plan B is to have his wife Gertrude stand on the Ballot in an event that he chicks out in on eleventh hour.

Meanwhile, three other heavyweights who have already expressed interest to vie for the party’s presidency feel vexed by Mutharika’s plans.

The trio include ex-ministers Bright Msaka, and Joseph Mwanamveka as well as former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor Dalitso Kabambe.

The former Central Bank Head was introduced into mainstream politics in January, 2021 by DPP Regional Governor for South Charles Mchaha.

Then, Mchaha promised that his regional committee would be unveiling other Presidential hopefuls, starting with estranged DPP Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa . But one year down the line, that has not happened yet.

In previous interviews, Mchacha also dismissed suggestions that Mutharika had endorsed Kabambe as his successor, saying the former head of State will ensure a level playing field and let the best candidate win at the convention.

At some point, Political Scientist who also teaches at Chancellor College Mustafa Hussain, gave Kabambe 50-50 chances to win at the convention, saying in his role at the Central Bank he was close to DPP party leadership.

But in his personal capacity, Peter Chisi, who works as Director of civil and political rights at Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) opposed Hussein by giving Kabambe just a 20 percent chance to win.

Meanwhile, tongues are wagging among other Presidential hopefuls for the party who have expressed their frustration over Mutharika’s planned move.

Jehovah’s Witness Student Quits Studies

0

By Sitali Sitali

A spiritual notorious Jehavour’s Witness at Mongu College of Education has wilfully exited the college after failing to adapt with new spiritual warfare rules.

A student who identified himself as Patrick shocked the college principal after he went to him with five pages scripture verses to challenge him that he will not obey the new rules that compels students to attend mass everyday as doing so is blasphemous to Jehovah.

Patrick clad in Jehovah’s Witness old – fashioned four pieces black jacket and trousers, and courageously holding a green Bible doing what every Jehovah’s Witness is expected to do as a missionary worker, asked the College Principal where he can find Fr. Hodari so that he can teach him the Bible.

Patrick told the principal that he was Jehovah’s Witnesses who lives under a strict Faith and that he can’t be going for mass to worship God as doing so will be against his faith and instructions from his Church.

Heavily indoctrinated student said if he attends Church mass he may be “disfellowshipped from his Kingdom Hall as Jehovah’s Witness.

He further explained to the principal who was listening attentively that if he will be disfellowshipped Witness he may attend a Kingdom Hall, but he is not allowed to speak to anyone, and no one may speak to him. He said this applies even to his family, who may only communicate with him as much as absolutely necessary.

Sitting comfortably before the college principal like Lawyer John Sangwa who is submitting evidence before the constitutional court, the Jehovah’s Witness student unlocked chain of verses to the principal trying to convince him to loosen rules that has been put across the college.

Mongu College of Education two weeks ago unveiled new rules that compelled every student to attend mass everyday and small Christian community on Friday evening.

The rules were announced by Fr. Hodari who said breaking the new rules will make the students expelled from the college.

The Jehovah student further narrated to the principal that he was supposed to understand that it was spiritual taboo for any Jehovah’s Witness to attend catholic mass where idols are put all over the church and that mass was ungodly.

After he finished mentioning chain of Bible verses from King James Version, the Principal told him that he had listened attentively to his argument and a number of verses unleashed, but he said the student had no option but to follow rules and start attending mass. However, the student said in their Kingdom Hall it is prohibited.

Out of frustration , the student shouted:

‘’When the final battle does occur, Jehovah will defeat Satan and the elect will go to heaven to rule with Christ. Remember, sir, and tell Fr Hodari that In Revelation, chapters 7 and 14, only 144,000 are among the elect to see paradise. He is not among the people who will see paradise. Jehovah’ Witnesses will go to heaven as spirit persons. The remaining faithful (Jehovah’s Witnesses), who are known as Jonadabs, will live forever on a renewed, paradise Earth in resurrected bodies. The unsaved will cease to exist at all, having been annihilated by Jehovah. So , I better quit studies for the seek of entering paradise where I will enjoy life.”

He looked at the college Principal and Sr. Maimbolwa who abruptly came in and read to them a final scripture in
Matthew 10:14:

” And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.”

The young man looked at Sr. Maimbolwa and the principal, he shook off the dust the them and he left the college in dismay with his Ukwa bag, Jehovah’s Witness literature suitcase and his bag while talking to himself that it was better for him to go to paradise than for him to stay in the college where he will displease Jehovah.

He is currently in Senanga District busy preaching the word of God using small books he was given at Kingdom Hall.

Open Letter To Former President Mr. Edgar Lungu

0

OPEN LETTER TO FORMER PRESIDENT MR. EDGAR LUNGU

19/03/2022

REF: BE GRATEFUL AND SUPPORT HH’s EFFORTS IN UNITING ZAMBIA

Greetings to you Mr. Edgar Lungu. This letter is written to you sir to express my displeasure over your sentiments at the funeral yesterday.

Following your loss on the 12th August 2021 general elections, I have always wanted to give you a chance to breath and reflect on your life and if possible apologise to the Zambian people for bad leadership. I have never wanted to pick a topic to discuss you anymore not until your sentiments after the burial of President Rupiah Banda. May his soul rest in peace.

Mr. Lungu, you missed yet another opportunity in your life to behave like a statesman. Someimes I blamed your advisers who I thought were giving you divisive advice as an approach to politics. I was wrong after your shocking ranting yesterday, I now know you are originally divisive.

Sir, in case you have forgotten, it is under your brutal regime that we saw opposition leaders like HH being missed with live bullets just few days to the elections, blocked from campaigning and ill treated as well as threatened to be killed. It is under your government where we saw your thugs beating up anybody suspected to be anti PF. It was under your government where PF thugs walked into police stations and beat up police officers, it was under your government when we lost Lawrence Banda, Mapenzi Chibulo, Vespers, Frank Mugala, Kennedy Mudenda, Obed Bwalya and many others killed by your agents and you never said anything as a head of state tasked to protect all citizens instead you called for ceremonial prayer and fasting and some brutality took place immediately after your prayers e.g the murder of Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kaunda.

In addition it was under your control where we saw other tribes being flashed out of the Civil service for being perceived or coming from a certain regions and it was ok with you. To be honest with you sir, you are the wrong person to mention the word ” hypocrisy ” what you should have said as a former head of state if you had nothing to say was to thank all our visitors who came to mourn with us unlike the route you took.

From your sentiments it is clear that you are pulling the nation in a wrong direction just like you did during your failed reign where we got humiliated and abused. It is not a secret sir, if you won last election, Zambia was going to be torn apart. The evil seed of hatred you and friends planted was about to germinate but God said no and he spoke decisively through the Zambian people in all the ten provinces.

My advise to you sir is that, seek for God’s wisdom and humble yourself. You know how much damage you brought to our nation. You are talking about a dialogue when you castigated the church and foreign missions from conducting a genuine dialogue and imposed bill 10 on us. Thank God even the famous demon bill 10 died a natural death together with the PF arrogance.

Be grateful sir for the efforts President HH is putting in. If the man decided to go the PF way under your leadership alot of your hench-men and ministers would have been refugees by now because of abusing authority. The mess you left is just huge and seeing HH the man you threatened to kill Making efforts to unity the country it is a commendable job that any sane Zambian should applaud him for.

If you are that blind not able to see what the death of Mr. Rupiah Banda has done to the nation. Then, you are not worthy for the position of a father of this nation.

If you had anything to say, you should have just expressed shame at the way you failed to bring citizens who were not PF to mourn, celebrate and pray with you. For the first time you saw Kampyongo, Chitalu, Lusambo, Sean Tembo, Cosmo Mumba etc all sited looking ashamed and were not being roughed up by cadres. Sir, I am sorry to say this but, you are a true hypocrite and you have to change your ways pretty fast. Do not use such a solemn occasion to try and defeat the arms of Justice. If you and your ministers stole from the Zambian people, Mr. Rupiah Banda’s death cannot be used as an escape route.

Once again I advise you sir to seek for God’s wisdom please and be humble. I wish you all the best as you reflect on your sentiments.

Yours sincerely

ZAMBIA, A SAD COUNTRY 😢. FINLAND A HAPPY COUNTRY 🤣

ZAMBIA, A SAD COUNTRY 😢. FINLAND A HAPPY COUNTRY 🤣

The 2022 happiest country report reveals that Zambia is one of the saddest countries in the world. It has been ranked as the 134th happiest country out of the total of 146 total countries recorded. Finland maintains the 1st slot for the last 4 years in a roll.

To determine the world’s happiest country, researchers analyzed comprehensive Gallup polling data from 149 countries for the past three years, specifically monitoring performance in six particular categories: gross domestic product per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make your own life choices, generosity of the general population, and perceptions of internal and external corruption levels.

In order to properly compare each country’s data, the researchers created a fictional country—christened Dystopia—filled with “the world’s least-happy people.” They then set Dystopia as the rock bottom value in each of the six categories and measured the scores of the real-world countries against this value.

All six variables were then blended to create a single combined score for each country. Interestingly enough, the top seven happiest countries in the world for 2021 were all Northern European countries.

Guys Zambia is sad 😢

Uhuru Kenyatta Will Be My ‘Advisor’ in Govt, Raila Odinga Says

0

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga has disclosed that President Uhuru Kenyatta will be his “advisor” if he forms the next administration.

While President Kenyatta is preparing to exit the stage after the August polls – in three months time – Odinga says he will be seeking him out regularly for advice on the day-to-day running operations of government.

“I will be seeking his advice just like he has been consulting me on different national matters during his second term in government,” Odinga said during an interview with BBC’s Sophies Ikenye on Tuesday.

The former Prime Minister revealed that other options for the Head of State would be for him “to do business or be a foreign diplomat serving in the African Union”.

“There are many things the President can do when he leaves office,” he said.

President Kenyatta on Saturday endorsed his former arch-rival for the country’s top job, weeks after their parties joined forces ahead of the August General Election.

The Head of State has been accused by his critics of hiding behind Odinga’s shadow to rule the country for a third term claims however, which he has denied.

Deputy President William Ruto and his allies believe that Odinga will be a ‘puppet President’ with President Kenyatta left to rule the country using the backdoor.

In 2018, President Kenyatta and Odinga stunned the country when they shook hands and declared a truce after post-election violence in 2017 left dozens of people dead.

In February, President Kenyatta’s Jubilee party announced that it would join the Azimio la Umoja coalition headed by Odinga.

On Saturday last week, President Kenyatta declared his backing for the veteran opposition leader, saying: “We don’t have any doubt that we have a team captain in Raila Amolo Odinga.”

Odinga, responded, saying he accepted “the nomination with absolute gratitude and dedication to our people.”

The announcement came after Kenyatta’s anointed successor Ruto, who also intends to contest the presidential election, was sacked from Jubilee.

Ruto was initially anointed by Kenyatta as his successor but found himself marginalized after the 2018 pact between the president and his former foe.

Odinga and Kenyatta have unsuccessfully tried to introduce sweeping constitutional changes, claiming that the reforms would help to end repeated cycles of election violence.

The reforms — popularly known as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI)- proposed expanding the executive and parliament to more evenly divide the spoils of victory.

But it was seen by critics as a way to enable Kenyatta — a two-term president who cannot run for a third — to remain in power by establishing the post of prime minister.

President Hakainde Hichilema is not hypocritical-UPND Youths

0

The youth wing of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) says President Hakainde Hichilema is not hypocritical.

Former President Edgar Lungu has sparked debate after speaking against hypocrisy in an interview with ZNBC Television during the burial of Fourth Republican President Rupiah Bwezani Banda in Lusaka on Friday.

Mr. Lungu bemoaned what he termed as the hypocrisy that is being seen where people say good things and then do what he described as bad things.

“Dialogue, genuine dialogue between all of us. Those who were in government before, and those who are in now. But what we are seeing is hypocrisy. Where people say good things and then do bad things. And if we can expunge the hypocrisy from our lives and just say it as it is, between now and embarking into the future, it’s a lesson we are learning from Rupiah Banda’s legacy. People have said a lot of good things. May those good things become part of us,” Mr. Lungu remarked.

Some people suggest that Mr. Lungu was referring to President Hichilema and his New Dawn Government when bemoaning hypocrisy.

But UPND Deputy National Youth – Information and Publicity Secretary David Chikwanda branded President Hichilema as a mature and diplomatic leader.

“HH had an option to talk about how he was treated during Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s funeral or how bad he was treated by the previous regime. He had an option to stop Edgar Lungu from attending the funeral of Rupiah Banda. He had an option to talk about the hypocrisy of those who had a day of prayer and reconciliation but behind the scenes were killing people in cold blood. HH chose a path of peace and chose to respect the funeral of the late statesman. HH brought his enemies closer in the spirit of love because the whole world was watching what was happening in Zambia,” he said.

“Yes we have a lot of issues affecting our nation which includes the looting of public resources by the previous regime but the funeral was not a platform for such. This is the point and wisdom Edgar missed. All he could have said was “We thank the state for according the late President a befitting send off in a peaceful and respectful environment” chapwa,” Mr. Chikwanda stated.

“In the recent past a number of people including the clergy have expressed their displeasure in the perceived manner that HH has treated people who allegedly stole public resources. A number of people feel HH has treated the criminals with kid’s gloves. I also agree. But despite this feeling, we were all happy in the manner President Hichilema treated president Lungu in respect to the funeral of RB. The whole nation thought this was a turning point and the beginning of the new era in Zambian politics. But we were wrong,” he said.

Mr. Chikwanda, the former Copperbelt University Students Union President, said Mr. Lungu’s comment was ill timed.

“No matter how much we might defend the statement by President Lungu, the fact still remains that the statement lacked wisdom and was ill timed. Edgar should have behaved like a statesman that people expect him to be. Yes we have known President Lungu to be careless with words but we didn’t expect it at this occasion. HH was not being hypocritical but exhibited diplomacy, maturity and respect required or expected of any human being at a funeral,” he said.

“We applaud HH for according president Banda a befitting send off but we wish to remind him (HH) that the ‘funeral is over’ let us treat criminals as criminals, murderers as murderers. At the same time this is an eye opener for HH not to be careless with enemies otherwise he will lose his life in return. Criminals are ruthless,” Mr. Chikwanda said.

Fred M’membe Has Married Off Married Off Daughter, Beene In England

FRED M’MEMBE HAS MARRIED OFF MARRIED OFF DAUGHTER, BEENE IN ENGLAND

Here below is the speech M’membe gave at the wedding:

Good evening everyone!

I hope you can hear me okay at the back. If you do miss a few words here and there, please just assume they were very witty and wise!

Well, for those of you who don’t know me, I’m the father of the bride. Given the events of the past two years with the pandemic, I am amazed that I have made it to England for this wedding. I can’t express how happy I am to be here to share this momentous occasion with my beautiful daughter and my new son in-law.

For every one of us here, either the bride or the groom mean a great deal to us. We’ve known them for years. We have watched them grow up and turn into the young adults they are. And now we’re watching the beginnings of the next phase of their lives.

As I stand here before you, I am conscious that Beene is sitting here in fear and trepidation of the embarrassing tales I might tell about her earlier years like:

  • her singing in a deep voice at an airport in Spain so that she could embarrass her older sister Nyemba;
  • her sneaking out of school in A Levels to go clubbing; or
  • the night she got drunk when she was 8 years.

But I’ll leave that for future family gatherings.

Instead I would like to express how exceptionally proud I am of the woman my daughter is today. From childhood, she has always been loving, kind-hearted, funny, independent and smart. I cannot believe how quickly time has gone by. Beene, you look beautiful, and I hope this day has been all you have dreamed.

As overwhelming as it is to give my daughter away, it is so satisfying to know that she is marrying an outstanding young man, whom I dare say is looking handsome in his suit. You might have noticed that I too am looking good in my suit today. From the first time I met Dave, I knew he was special because my daughter had never introduced me to any of her boyfriends. He is a kind and intelligent young man. I am honoured to have him as my son in law.

Please join in in raising a toast to the bride and the groom. May you your marriage be a strong one. May it be full of love, and may you find ways to keep it fun and exciting over the years.

Cheers!

President Lungu Should Quickly Heal And Join Hands With President Hichilema In Fostering Unity- Dr Nevers Mumba

PRESIDENT LUNGU SHOULD QUICKLY HEAL AND JOIN HANDS WITH PRESIDENT HICHILEMA IN FOSTERING UNITY

I have listened to the statement made by 6th Republican President Mr. Edgar Lungu at the funeral of our fallen 4th Republican President, President Rupiah Bwezani Banda which brought into debate the word, “HYPOCRISY.” Last night, I could only post the definition of hypocrisy on my face book to give myself time to fully appreciate the meaning and put it into context.

His statement has largely been understood or seen from two contexts.

That as Zambians, we are generally hypocritical and that there has been a growing trend of hypocricy in the country where people especially leaders, are only appreciated when they die, rather than while they are still with us.

That President Hichilema is a hypocrite who has been allegedly saying good things publicly and doing bad things behind the scenes as related to how the former PF leaders are being treated.

Regardless of what President Lungu could have meant, we believe this statement has stirred up a lot of debate, some healthy and some proving rather unfortunate.

Healthy in the sense that, it has laid bare a growing concern in which we, as a people never appreciate our leaders while they are alive. We saw this with our Gabon Soccer Heroes, both the class of 1993 Heroes as well as the Class of 2012 Heroes. We saw it with President Kaunda, with President Chiluba to a greater extent, perhaps, we also saw it with Late President Mwanawasa and now, President Banda. On this score, I think we must self-introspect as individual citizens and improve as a nation and accord some semblance of respect to our Leaders, especially after they leave office.

On the other hand, the statement has also caused a negative stir in that the event used to make such a statement was inappropriate. It was a presidential funeral at which words used by leaders must contribute to strengthening national unity and comforting the nation. In addition, in the pursuit of reconciliation and national unity, President Lungu must never underestimate the damage his regime inflicted on Zambians. The damage to democracy. Damage to the economy. Damage to the bond that has held the 72 tribes together. Damage to Zambia’s international image. We are of the view that such intentional damage done to a nation must become prosecutable in future.

Thirdly, President Lungu and PF must never underestimate the grace and restraint that President Hichilema has had to exercise in handling former PF leaders.

To President Hichilema, we applaud you for being magnanimous in the manner in which you have gracefully handled power, and the people that manhandled you. It is you, who reached out to president Lungu to attend the funeral for RB. This gesture has unfortunately been rewarded with the biting accusation of hypocrisy. But in our quest for national unity, we urge you not to take offense but to continue with efforts to unite the nation, including embracing President Lungu.

To President Lungu, it is not too late. The loss of President Banda and just last year, President Kenneth Kaunda has naturally presented to you, an opportunity to step into a role that is larger than partisan divisions, I urge you, sir, to seek God’s strength and face the Zambian people. Ask them to forgive you for any pain your administration could have caused them knowingly or unknowingly. Do not listen to those naysayers that want to continue using your name to advance their own PF agenda, your role is now Zambian. Most assuredly, Both God and the people of Zambia shall forgive you. We know that if you can quickly heal and move on to step into your new role, you can be a huge blessing and an instrument to Join hands with President Hichilema to foster peace, unity and development for our beloved nation.

To continue to complain that you are being mistreated currently does not sit well with most Zambians. Most Zambians believe you should be held accountable.

HELP US TO HEAL AND LET US FOSTER NATIONAL UNITY TOGETHER.

Some parts of social media have taken it upon themselves to react on former President Lungu’s comment after a journalist paused a question to him. Here is a comment from ECl.

“All the statements have been made, of course he was not an Angel, he had his own failings just like all of us. But if we learn to dialogue honestly with one another as we have experienced during the days of mourning, we probably can get somewhere as a country,” he said.

“Dialogue between all of us, those who were in government before and those who are in now. But what we are seeing is hypocrisy where people say good things then do bad things.”

“And only if we can expunge hypocrisy from our lives and just say it as it is from now on to the future, then what’s the lesson we are learning from Rupiah Banda’s legacy?”

“People have said a lot of good things, may those good things become part of them,” he said.

I will begin with this Common scripture in the bible, Matthew 23(NIV) “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!

We must note! President Lungu the sixth republican President made a general call for all of us to practice what we preach, same appeal God made to the pharisees. His statement was not in anyway targeting an individual or individuals but a general call as a statesman and Father of the Nation.

President Lungu’s comment is in public anyone can view it and give a better judgement, but two things are involved. If its viewed from a political point of view it will get a different impression. By now we should understand that ECl is no longer in active politics and finally took his rightful place as a former head of state.

It is clear that attempts by some people are meant to creat numerous versions of President Lungu’s comment before leaving embassy park but the truth and true interpretation is one.

I believe President Lungu could have said what he said any other day and any other place except he could not call for a press briefing just to make that comment but the embassy park one was the nearest opportunity available. my appeal is for us as Zambians to resist from the habit of demonizing thoughts and ideas coming from people we may not like .

The case of President Lungu is very unfair and unfortunate. As christians we should by all means practice what we preach unlike been hypocrites.

CHIMBUYA: CEMENTING BONDS DURING A TIME OF GRIEF

CHIMBUYA: CEMENTING BONDS DURING A TIME OF GRIEF

This past week has been an emotional period for our nation Zambia as we mourned our 4th President Rupiah Bwezani Banda. It is in times like this that the bonds between people are cemented because a time of mourning always reminds each of us how much we need each other. It makes us introspect on the importance of having people on whose shoulders one can lean on.

During this time of mourning, the special tradition of “Chimbuya” that exists between Easterners and Northerners has been an important mechanism of helping the people mourn and deal with this great loss. From the funeral house, the markets, parliament, the streets, offices and homes; the humorous pouring of powder and mealie meal on Easterners by Northerners kindled smiles on people’s faces during this difficult time and made them forget their pain for a moment. The attempts by some Easterners to elude the powder and the determined pursuit by Northerners to ensure that all Easterners receive the powder provided a very interesting spectacle.

Seeing politicians from across the political divide covered in white powder by each other showed that the perceived political dividing lines are superficial. Seeing parliamentarians joking with each other after powdering each other brought light moments in a house which is usually associated with antagonistic debates. Even at the mourning house, seeing those who jokingly “banned” the usage of powder at the funeral finally receiving the powder on their head in a humorous manner was a nice sight. The back and forth, cat and mouse game which saw Easterners and Northerners daring each other showed how traditions like “Chimbuya” create an atmosphere that encourages a jovial relationship among people.

So when you look at these pictures of easterners being covered in white powder by their cousins from the North and how Zambians watched this while cheering with joy and laughter, let it remind you that all Zambians are one people who share bonds that can never be broken. Let these pictures remind you that our country is built on love and our ability to find joyful moments even in difficult times.

HEALING THE NATION AN AMAZING BREAKTHROUGH BY PRESIDENT HICHILEMA

Lusaka 19.03.2022 The United Party for National Development wishes to express its profound gratitude to the many Zambians who exhibited a great sense of love during the period of national mourning in honor of late 4th Republican President Rupiah Banda in a show of confidence towards the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema and his call for peace in the nation.

Many Zambians using different media platforms have all spoken with utmost appreciation the manner President Hichilema has united the country in mourning the former Head of state late President Banda with love, respect and peace. Listening to them carefully something clearly comes that Zambia is healing.

President Banda deserved to be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged with one heart and one voice by the whole country as a lover of peace. However, what remains something of a marvel to look at was the unity that prevailed during the mourning period across all socio-economic and political divides that not so long fiercely worked against each other.

The convergence of thousands of people from across political divide and their messages of condolences just proves the growth and maturity of Zambia’s Democratic credentials which have reinforced President Hichilema’s consistent call for unity and peace in the country during this period and posterity.

It is further gratifying to note the peaceful atmosphere that existed between the various political players and their followers during the mourning period. As the ruling Party, we wish to commend our supporters for extending their love to other political players by avoiding any form of violence that had previously characterised most state funerals and other functions.

This is a demonstration of the successes scored this far by President Hichilema in his crusade to unite the country. It is a demonstration of his big heart, loving personality, patriotism and magnanimity towards those in opposition.

The nation watched with delight as President Hichilema and his predecessor Edgar Lungu stood side by side during the state funeral warmly welcoming foreign dignitaries in a clear demonstration of President Hichilema’s ability to transform the nation so much within just six months of his time in power.

Broadly speaking, one can discern that Zambians are once again ready to put aside their differences to join hands and move forward in developing this country. During President Hichilema’s rule, peace has been preserved across the country, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere.

From the beginning, President Hichilema has stressed that peace and unity are the foundations for socio-economic development that the country desires, and that without it we cannot reach our national goals. He has on several occasions stressed that for people to work together towards a common cause, we needed peace and unit and that socio-economic development cannot be treated separately from peace and unit.

On 11th March, 2022 during the State of the Nation address at Parliament, President Hichilema stressed his desire to lead a united people. The President’s emphasis has been on healing the nation and ending hostilities against each other as the foundation for development. His peace crusade can thus be summed up as a campaign for concerted action towards ending tribal and politically driven marginalisation at all levels in the community including among others in our health, judicial, and education systems.

As the country watched President Hichilema and former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu standing side by side at Show Grounds warmly welcoming foreign dignitaries to the state funeral and I found myself in awe of President Hichilema’s ability to transform the nation so much within just six months of his time in power. We as the ruling party commit ourselves to the values of love, peace and unity that our President is warmly sharing with this nation

We as the ruling party commit ourselves to the values of love, peace and unity that our President is warmly sharing with the nation and its people.

In the words of former Botswana President Ian Khama, “this country is safe in the hands of President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND and we call on its citizens within and outside the country to rally behind his leadership as he works at uniting this once divided nation.”

God bless Zambia and may it grow into a prosperous, peaceful and united country.

NEVER WRITE OFF ANYBODY…whether cattle ranger or lawyer – Fr Thomas

NEVER WRITE OFF ANYBODY

…whether cattle ranger or lawyer – Fr Thomas

By Kombe Mataka

GOD teaches us never to write off anybody, says Cathedral of the Holy Cross dean Reverend Canon Charley Thomas.

During the State funeral church service for late Rupiah Banda, who was put to rest yesterday at Embassy Park, Fr Thomas said only God decides when it is over.

“The reason for the life that God gives us is so that that someone else not under our obligation but someone else can benefit from our lives. That is the essence of the Christian faith. The reason why God blesses us with wealth is so that we can enjoy it but it is because someone else can can benefit from it,” he said.

Fr Thomas narrated that his first prophet meeting with Banda was at the baptism of his son Henry’s daughter Mwansa.

“And there at the end of the service, I found myself praying in tears. At our first meeting ever, none of us knew what was going on. It was a few months later, that he became transition president and later president of the nation under very challenging circumstances. He came from retirement with a new set of tyres. Tyres of great quality,” he said.

“God teaches us never to write off anybody. There is a testimony from RB’s (Rupiah Banda) life. Never write off anybody at any given time. Whether as a watermelon farmer or a cattle ranger or a lawyer. Never write off anybody. Only God decides when it is over. There are people sitting here today who were told that their political life is over and their businesses will fall down. We were told that the pandemic would paralyse out economy. Only God decides when it is over. Our seasons of life are for a purpose. Notice yours and mine, the current season of life and the next season of life and when we transition, can we learn to do it in style like RB.”

Fr Thomas called for learning to transition no matter the circumstances.

“Our reasons for life is to run our race, keeping to our track. That is doing the best that we can and our loving God and allowing God to do the rest – doing the right thing and allowing God to do the rest. There is word in the English language that is not popular today. It is faithfulness. The word that has over taken faithfulness is success. Everybody is running after success,” he said.

“However, God teaches us that he is only calling us to be faithful. Success is God’s gift to us. Do not reverse the order. Be faithful with what God has entrusted you no matter what the task is, what the gift is. What the opportunity is. Be faithful with it and God will reward you. It will follow. Success will follow you. The chief purpose of the life that God gives us is to worship him. To give God his worth through our thoughts, words and actions, that is how you worship him. It does not end in this building. It doesn’t end in this service. It is a lifelong activity. You give God his worth by just being who you are, through your words, thoughts and action.”

Fr Thomas said one worships God by helping other God’s people enlarge their purpose and potential.

“We worship God by helping others. President Rupiah Banda has reminded us several times that he is what he is because of the opportunities he was given by president [Kenneth] Kaunda and indeed by president [Levy] Mwanawasa. President Banda’s shadow Dickson Jere…he has justified that he is what he is because president Banda would push him to exploit the hidden potential within him,” he said. “The youth football team from the village that he saw playing one day, and identified them and began to nurture them – to give them hope. To give them training, to give them potential will testify to their new life and dreams.”

And President Hakainde Hichilema said it was important for the country to override things that divide the nation with the issues that unite it “as we learned from late former president Rupiah Banda”.

Banda, 85, succumbed to colon cancer on March 11, 2022.

President Hichilema said Banda would be remembered for his humility and ability to give attention to everyone even if he did not agree with their point of view.

“In a country where sometimes some of us try to drive more issues of divisions, yet there are a lot of things that unite us, the things that unite us must override the things that may divide us. We must learn it as it will help us put that glue all the time amongst our people when we need it most,” he told mourners at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

“He will be remembered for his humility. He gave each one of us a deserving attention even when we had a different point of view. I think this is important; even when we had a different point of view, he still gave us his ear. He still gave us his attention because if we had time to listen to each other, and just pick something that is amiss, which may help resolve the challenge that we are faced with at that particular time.”

He thanked all stakeholders including foreign delegates for the support rendered in mourning and celebrating Banda’s life.
President Hichilema urged Banda’s family to look to God for strength and comfort.
“We take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the Banda family for allowing us to mourn RB together. We thank you for opening your home to us when president Banda was alive. We further thank you for working closely with the government in ensuring that we give RB a befitting send-off. That which he commanded, deserved simply because he delivered service to us,” he said

“So, we have an obligation to send him away to the Lord in this manner. We are grateful for your presence and I mean the presence of leaders even outside of our country. Like president [Joaquim] Chisano who I believe continues to represent the many presidents and former presidents who were at the funeral service yesterday (Thursday) in the show grounds.”

He urged Zambians to celebrate Banda’s life instead of mourning forever.

“To the Banda family we encourage you to look to God for strength, for comfort, during this difficult time but a wonderful message was given by our preacher here that ‘we celebrate’. We don’t just mourn; we celebrate him as a well,” said President Hichilema.

“One aspect of the same coin: one we are mourning, the other side is celebrating. I think it must be taken as package. I think we mourn RB but we celebrate him. The things we have been saying since he passed on is why we should be celebrating. We will eternally be grateful to God for blessing us with such a selfless loving elder, indeed family member. I’m talking about the entire Zambian filmily. His is a life well lived.”

As she slept in her Kyiv flat, a top Ukrainian actress was blown up by a Russian rocket attack

Oksana Shvets, one of Ukraine’s most famous stage actresses has been killed in a Russian rocket attack while she slept in an apartment in southeast Kyiv.

Top Ukrainain actress blown up by Russian rocket attack as she slept in her Kyiv apartment

Her death was confirmed by the Young Theatre, a Ukrainian theatre company she had previously been working with.

They posted a tribute to the 67-year-old actress alongside a picture of the theatre and film star.

In a statement, translated from Ukrainian, the theatre company wrote on social media: ‘Bright memory to the talented actress! There is no forgiveness for the enemy that has come to our land!’.

The Kyiv Post has also confirmed the actor’s passing, adding on social media that she had been ‘murdered in Kyiv during the war’.

According to the theatre’s website, Shvets had graduated from Ivan Franko theatre school in 1975 and had a career that spanned decades. She had also been the recipient of the Merited Artist of Ukraine award, one of Ukraine’s highest and most coveted honours.

Russian troops have continued to attack the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and launched a barrage of missiles against an aircraft repair installation at an airport on the outskirts of the western city of Lviv, close to the Polish border. One person was reported wounded.

Ukraine said it had shot down two of six missiles in the volley, which came from the Black Sea. The early morning barrage of missiles on Lviv’s edge was the closest strike yet to the centre of the city, which has become a crossroads for people fleeing from other parts of Ukraine and for others entering to deliver aid or fight.

In city after city around Ukraine, hospitals, schools, and buildings where people sought safety have been attacked. Rescue workers were still searching for survivors in the ruins of a theatre that served as a shelter when it was blasted by a Russian airstrike on Wednesday in the besieged southern city of Mariupol.

Ludmyla Denisova, the Ukrainain parliament’s human rights commissioner, said on Friday that 130 people had survived the theatre bombing.

‘As of now, we know that 130 people have been evacuated, but according to our data, there are still more than 1,300 people in these basements, in this bomb shelter,’ Denisova told Ukrainian television. ‘We pray that they will all be alive, but so far there is no information about them.’

Edgar Lungu cannot be national icon – Chifire

0

By Oliver Chisenga

EDGAR Lungu cannot be a national icon, at least not for a decent country of decent people like Zambia because his hands are too dirty, says Gregory Chifire.

Reacting to Ministry of Information and Media director Thabo Kawana’s statement that Lungu is an icon and national asset, Chifire said the

problem with the former president has nothing to do with his associations with the Patriotic Front but the “dirt” he carries as an individual.

Chifire said Kawana should retract his statement.

“And we further urge the PF to stop associating Lungu with the PF party as doing so makes the latter to be partisan. Thabo must understand that the problem with Lungu has nothing to do with him associating with PF, but the dirt that he as a person carries. In fact, Lungu as a person is more dirty than the PF party,” he charged. “I can’t blame people who are alleging that Lungu is a common criminal who belongs to jail. Little wonder that everyone that appears before

the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC)… Lungu must answer to the many allegations raised at PAC and indeed the many issues we know.”

Chifire, the Southern African Network Against Corruption (SANAC) executive director, said Lungu was actually a “worthy candidate” for the removal of his presidential immunity, and must

first clear his name before he acquires an honourable title.

“Yes, he was president of Zambia by fluke or by whatever force, that is enough. We can’t erase that. But giving him an honourable title to a man we all know has skeletons in his cupboard is not only hypocritical but also a big insult to the integrity of the people of Zambia,” he said.

Chifire insisted that it is an open secret that Lungu “is viewed by many Zambians as the most corrupt president the country has ever had”.

“This is not from me, but the general view from the majority citizens. Someone who is viewed as a thief or corrupt cannot be clothed with honour. It would be a wasted effort,” he said.

Chifire said Lungu would laugh at the assertion that he has an iota of honour because he knows the truth.

CHELSEA: MULTIPLE BIDS LODGED TO BUY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB

CHELSEA: MULTIPLE BIDS LODGED TO BUY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB

The Ricketts family, who own Major League Baseball team, the Chicago Cubs, a consortium featuring Lord Coe and another group led by British property investor, Nick Candy, have all submitted offers to buy Chelsea.

A deadline for bids was set for 21:00 GMT on Friday after the Premier League club had been put up for sale by Russian owner Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea fan, Candy, said that he had secured additional investment from South Korea and that his bid is “over £2bn”.

Is this a moment of reckoning for ownership in English football?
Abramovich’s attempt to sell the club was halted after he was sanctioned by the UK government and his assets, including Chelsea, were frozen.

That move came in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with Abramovich understood to have strong ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

American investment firm Raine Group has been tasked with selling Chelsea and the UK government is expected to issue a new licence, allowing the club to be sold, once a preferred buyer had been highlighted.

Although the official deadline to purchase the west London Premier League club was 21:00 GMT on Friday, some final bids are likely to be submitted into the weekend.

There are still more than 20 interested parties, but the number of confirmed bids is likely to be 10 to 15.

Chelsea and Raine Group will make a shortlist next week, with the preferred bidder then requiring government approval, which will involve proving the source of funds and where the money goes next.

Any sale will also need to be signed off by the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test – known as the ‘fit and proper person’s test’.

One of the bids was submitted by a consortium led by ex-Liverpool chairman Sir Martin Broughton and Lord Coe.

“I remain the only person [in the bidding process] to have effected a change of ownership at a major football club in a similar situation, which I did at Liverpool 12 years ago,” Broughton, who is also a former British Airways chairman, said.

“As a lifelong fan, I am committed to ensuring Chelsea maintains its preeminent position at the top of European football and making sure we put fans first.”

The consortium said fans would be “at the heart of decision making” if the bid was successful and it would “guarantee the club is never beholden to a single individual or sovereign wealth fund”.

A spokesperson for Candy’s Blue Football Consortium said: “I can confirm that the two South Korean firms Hana Financial Group and C&P Sports Group are a significant part of Mr Candy’s global consortium of investors.

“Their involvement is representative of Chelsea’s global brand and huge loyal fanbase in Asia.”

Candy added: “Football clubs are vitally important community and cultural assets, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give football back to the fans and put them at the heart of the operations and strategy of a leading global football club.”

The bid from the Ricketts family is backed by billionaire hedge fund entrepreneur Ken Griffin.

Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak, who had previously expressed an interest in the club, said late on Friday that his company AB Group Holding had not filed a bid.

Bayrak attributed AB Group’s failure to meet the deadline to a misunderstanding with his lawyers over the auction procedure, telling news agency Reuters that he was “very upset” by the situation.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 for £140m but in his statement announcing his intention to sell he said his ownership had “never been about business nor money, but about pure passion for the game and club”.

He values the club at £3bn and has loaned the club £1.5bn – but said he will not ask for any loans to be repaid. Abramovich has also said proceeds of the sale would be donated to war victims.

The funds from the sale could go to a charitable organisation or into a frozen account. [BBC SPORT]

…..As he condemns the former republican president Mr Edgar Lungu for referring hypocrisy to Government efforts to unity the country.

UPND North Western province Youth Chairperson Mr Bruce Kanema has condemned the remarks made by the former president Mr Edgar Lungu yesterday at the Embassy park after the burial service of the late president Rupiah Banda.

Mr Bruce kanema has condemned the hypocrisy statement issued by former president ECL in which he said it’s high time that president Lungu must have a unifying language and avoid divisive language which the late president RB spoke against.

Mr Kanema also stated that the remarks made by the acting PF president Given Lubinda in which he challenged the Government to arrest those who stole Government resources instead of telling them to surrender which he said was a mockery to the Government of the republic of Zambia.

He stated that these statements means both the former president Edgar Lungu and his clique member Mr Given Lubinda are not remorseful for the wrong things they did and they eventually do not appreciate the methodical way of handling national matters by the UPND New Dawn Government.

Mr kanema has called on the Government to up their fight against corruption and recovery of what was stolen with full force because the clique is now on it’s way to continue fooling Zambians and sound relevant to the public.

He has challenged all the Government investigative wings to take seriously the spirit of fighting corrupt without using kids cloves and waiting for instructions but doing what the law demands.

He emphasized that His Exellence president HH must be helped by all well meaning Zambians to achieve his good vision for the benefits of every citizen of this country regardless of their political, social or economic status in society.

He stated that the clique are back and are speaking louder because the assets which they have managed to hide the stolen assets including unregistered motor vehicles which are now back on the streets without fear or shame.

Mr Bruce Kanema has challenged the former president Mr Edgar Lungu to avoid using divisive language when the country is healing from total division on political and regional lines which was spearhead by the PF regime under his leadership.

Critical Shortage of drugs in hospitals and Clinics, Who Will Pay for the Lives Lost?- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Critical Shortage of drugs in hospitals and Clinics, Who Will Pay for the Lives Lost?

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

The fact is no longer in contest.

There is an established critical shortage of medicines and medical supplies in hospitals, Clinics and health centres in Zambia in the last six months.

The number of loss of lives attributed directly to this sad development is yet to be made public.

This is because, during this period, the Ministry of Health has not bought any medicines, has refused to pay previous suppliers, has abolished the Procurement Unit and is in the process of picking “new” suppliers.

The portfolio Minister, Hon Sylvia Masebo proceeded to abolish all boards and management of sub-sector entities involved in the regulatory and distribution of drugs.

Further it is extremely surprising to hear Hon. Masebo, in her Ministerial Statement in Parliament, express ignorant shock that Hospitals have not taken the initiative to buy medicines and medical supplies using administrative and operational funds that the Ministry has disbursed!

She even dares to accuse hospital administrators of having masters elsewhere ( PF) other than the current Government!

This statement alone is a scandal on its own!

Does she expect Hospitals to utilise administrative and operational funds, to buy medicines?

Does she expect Administrators to take quotations from the streets and buy medicines from there?

Does she know how public funds are utilized? Has she read the Auditor General’s Reports?

Is her request for such an initiative even legal in Zambia?

Her last stay at a Ministry ( Ministry of Tourism) in 2012 ended in tears as she was arrested and arraigned before the court of law for abuse of office and interfering in the procurement process as a Minister…guess nothing has changed in her outlook.

Has she heard of ZAMRA?

The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority is the Statutory Body established under an Act of Parliament; the Medicines and Allied Substances Act No. 3 of 2013 to regulate and control the manufacture, importation, storage distribution, supply, sale and use of medicines and allied substances.

Has the Minister heard about Medical Stores Limited (MSL) now transformed as the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA), an autonomous government agency established under the companies act with the express objective of furnishing to the nation good quality drugs and various medical equipment and supplies?

Over the years, the Ministry of Health, its development and cooperating assistance partners have invested substantial amounts of money in the public-sector drug procurement and distribution system.

Zambia has a well-functioning supply chain for essential medicines.

Zambia has a three-tier system with storage of medicines and medical supplies at each level (Storage at National Distribution Center, District Health Office and Health Facility).

Government constructed regional hubs in line with Government’s decentralization policy, across the country.

By criminalizing all companies that supply medicines and medical supplies, by firing all Permanent Secretaries, by dissolving all boards at ZAMMSA and ZAMRA, and by abolishing the procurement unit, Masebo is trying to re-invent the wheel and not cleaning up.

What Masebo and her technical staff are currently doing is to dismantle a heavily invested in, well-established and well-functioning system built over the years.

Clearly this wayward gamble by Masebo has cost many dear lives as a result of lack of medicines at hospitals, clinics and health centres in the last six months.

Who will pay for the loss of these lives?

Isn’t life sacred with the New Dawn Government?

THANK YOU ZAMBIA!

By Dickson Jere

What a great send off for President Rupiah Banda! He must be wearing his trademark smile and happy in the matter Zambia mourned him. Very dignified – as he wished – and the unity that brought everyone on board.

A very big “Thank You” to President Hakainde Hichilema for making sure that the oldboy was given a benefiting funeral. Logistics and other support was in place and the President took personal interest in making sure that the process was smooth. He made sure no-one was harassed or stopped from mourning and attending the funeral – exactly what RB would have wanted. Thank you President!

Political parties and their choirs took turns in singing in harmony – including the nearly defunct MMD showed up, dressed in RB regalia! What a beautiful sight it was…

Leaders from different backgrounds sat together in church and talked the way RB would have wished for his funeral. While everyone is focused on the politicians, for me, it was seeing Paramount Chief Mpezeni and Paramount Chief Gawa Undi together. I shed a tear. That was what RB had always wanted – to bring these two together – and he did it in death! RB a “reconciliator” even in his death. The two Chiefs even inspected th grave together and later laid wreaths together. That was the highest point of that funeral for me – RB during and after his presidency wanted unity between Ngoni and Chewa speaking people. He was both and once asked to be cut in half if these two groups were not united.

Thank you the defence and security for giving your 4th Commander In-Chief the benefiting funeral. The 21 gun salute and guard of honor was on point! The fly past was done meticulously!

To the family, we salute you for showing unity and morning RB in a dignified manner. Even though sorrowful, we also rejoiced and celebrated his life in style – everyone had a story to tell about RB and how he impacted on them. We had problems at Church yesterday to accommodate everyone as RB children – Blacks, Indians, Greeks, Whites, Jews – all showed up from various parts of the world. They wanted to sit on the family side and nowhere else.
Go well President of all Zambians. Yours was life well lived.
It is well!

Former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, has praised Zambians for demonstrating solidarity during the funeral and burial of late fourth President Rupiah Banda at Embassy Park yesterday.

Mr. Chissano said the great multitudes of Zambians that attended the funeral church service yesterday was symbolising a spirit of solidarity and unity among themselves.

He has since urged the Zambian people to keep solidarity in their hearts in order to realise economic development in the country.

He was speaking before departure at Kenneth Kaunda international Airport this afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Chissano attended the funeral church service of late Mr. Banda, who died on March 11, 2022.

Mr Chisano further urged Zambians to emulate the iconic leader who preached peace.

“The one Zambia one nation motto was repeated at both church service and Embassy Park where a spirit of solidarity and unity was demonstrated. I hope this solidarity will be kept forever in the country,” he said.

He said he was impressed with the spirit of oneness, unity and solidarity, adding that he was honoured to attend the funeral and represent his country, Mozambique.

The former President of Mozambique, who left at exactly 16:00 hours, said Zambia should forever keep the solidarity and peace the country has been enjoying.

He was seen off by staff from the Mozambique embassy in Zambia.

Yesterday the late fourth republican president Rupiah Banda, who died on Friday 11th March 2022,was put to rest at the presidential burial site at the Embassy Park in Lusaka.

A sombre mood characterised the occasion which was led by President Hakainde Hichilema, first lady Mutinta, former Mozambican president Joaquim Chissano, various dignitaries, paramount chiefs Mpezeni of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province and Kalonga Gawa Undi of the Chewe people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

Chief Mbelwa of Malawi and other traditional leaders from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique also attended the burial of the late Mr. Banda.

Before the burial commenced, paramount chiefs Mpezeni and Kalonga Gawa Undi were asked to inspect the grave and later members of the clergy led by Council of Churches in Zambia Secretary General Emmanuel Chikoya were made to bless the grave.

The Zambia Army accorded the late former commander-in-chief a 21 gun salute while the Zambia Airforce did a fly-past as the casket was been lowered into the grave.

Canon Thomas, the Dean and Vicar General of the Anglican Diocese, led committal of the grave before the engineers from the defense force closed the grave with a tomb stone which was unveiled by the late president Banda’s grandchildren.

Children of the late president were the first to lay their wreaths followed by President Hichilema and first lady Mutinta, the former first lady and widow of Mr. Banda did not lay a wreath due to her faith.

In a vote of thanks, niece to the late President, Dorika Banda, thanked government and the people of Zambia for the support during the time of sickness and death of the former president.

Ms. Banda said former president Banda died a happy man knowing that the country, which he loved, was always at peace.

In his closing prayer, Bishop of Chipata Diocese, George Lungu, quoted from Romans 8 verse 39 and said nothing can separate people from the love of God.

Others that attended the burial ceremony included Speaker of the National Assembly, Chief Justice, members of the diplomatic corp, current and former Cabinet Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and Members of Parliament among others.

Dear Family and Friends, always remember that life is a journey- Sinda District Commissioner (DC) Mr David Tembo

SINDA DISTRICT COMMISSIONER (DC) MR DAVID TEMBO WRITES:

Dear Family and Friends, always remember that life is a journey.

Allow me to share the untold story of a man in the picture,in order to encourage someone who thinks suicide is the solution.

Having been born from a retired civil servant in the Kaunda days at cabinet office(George Lamecks Tembo)alive, and uneducated nsenga mother but full of wisdom, love for all and family unifier(Mary Maria Zulu Tembo)late, I learnt my human surviving skills at an early age.

Being the 4th born out of eight(8), five(5)ladies and three ( 3) gents and the only person to have reached university levels. Life has not been an ice cream kind of journey.

I have been a street kid before(beggar),a bus conductor/inexperienced driver,a street business person(tamanga),a school drop out at some point,a failure,a laughingstock, despised and humiliated,I have been appointed and disappointed before, fired and hired, promoted and demoted, sidelined, rejected and ejected, accused and justified, persecuted and betrayed, uncounted in matters of importance and all bad things you would think of people go through to have depression. In all these experiences,I have seen God and one thing I can publicly confess is that our surviving Father only provided God to our lives and that’s all we had.

Because of the Almighty God we were given, today we are reaping the fruits of trusting in him.God re-wrote my name by redefining me.He gave me a new name,
connected me to the right people/destiny helpers and today,no one would tell that we had gone through tough situations because Jesus picked, washed, ironed and exposed us to his glory for the manifestation of his goodness.

Kindly know that you don’t just become without being combed.

To cut the long testimony short.Out of what you are going through don’t think of taking your life because that’s the worst cawardice idea.Learn something out of that situation and ask God to guide you through.

Life is more important than what you are going through. That situation is just but temporal which will come to an end soon but when you take your life, the end destination is hell and there it will be forever in pain. You are not the first one to be there, someone passed through that before and they conquered.

Thank you,May God heal and deliver you in Jesus Christ name.

Happy Sabbath 👏🏻

I always wanted to marry a highly educated woman. I have changed my mind

0

I always wanted to marry a highly educated woman.
I have changed my mind.

I was late for my flight to Eldoret. I knew that if the traffic at Mombasa road didn’t easen up, I would miss my flight and that wouldn’t have gone well with the client I was meeting in Eldoret. To cut the long story, I got to Wilson Airport just in time for the departure. I serve a living God, what did you expect… 🙂

After the usual airport formalities and tiring safety protocols, the air bus soon tore its massive body into the air and soon we were 34,000 ft above sea levels.

Seated next to me was a lady.

This one was fire on ice. Annoyingly cute with a graceful height. Her skin tone was refreshingly sapple and her eyes were snow white and soul searching. I did summersulting calculations and boom! I had less that 1 hour 15 minutes to win this power girl. GAME LIVE!
Being the Socrates that I am, I knew I wasn’t basic. So instead of asking her random stuff like what she does for a living and what her favorite color was, I asked if we could play a small game.

Her name was Nancy.

Nancy mentioned that she was tired and politely rejected my offer to a game. She also mentioned that all she wanted was to take a nap as she was having a connecting flight from Eldoret to Kisumu. Upon politely regecting my request to a game, cute Nancy then rolled over to the window to catch a few winks.
Again, being the Socrates that I am, I insisted. I told Nancy that the game was simple yet fun.
I told her that in the game, I was to ask her a question. If she didn’t know the answer, she’d pay me 1K. And Vice versa.

Again, Nancy declined and tried to get some sleep.

Feeling agitated and my manly ego terribly bruised, I told her that if she didn’t know the answer, she’d pay me the 1K. But if I didn’t know the answer, I would pay her 15K.

This caught Nancy’s attention 😉 🙂.
Look at the lengths we go to get a cute woman’s attention. It’s important to note that I knew I would answer all her questions. I knew that anything she would ask would be simple. I was good with challenges and riddles, so the 15K was a bait to get this cute person to be interested. That’s all.

Nancy realized that I was the persistent type and knowing too well that there was no end to this torment unless she played, she agreed to the game.
I shot the first question.
‘Nancy, what’s the distance between the moon and the earth surface?’
My cute crush didn’t say any word. She reached her purse and pulled out a new 1K note and handed it over to me. Damn! Boychild winning at first half.

I looked at her deep blue eyes and with a suggestive wink, I whispered.. `Your turn dear’
Nancy adjusted her explosive feminine gait. She looked at me deeply into the eyes, breathed in slowly and threw her question.
‘Socrates sir, now that you seem to know everything. What goes up a hill with 3 legs and comes down with 4 legs?’

Jesus!

I pulled out my laptop and dived into the internet. No response! I reached out to all sites that have responses to riddles. Nothing! Frustrated, I posted the riddle on whatsapp status, no reply! I tried a few friends I thought knew a thing or two about this and that. ZERO!
After one hour of traumatizing research, I woke Nancy up from her flight slumber, took 15K from my briefcase and handed it to her.
Suprisingly, Nancy says a hurried ‘thank you so much’ and goes to continue with her sleep.

Feeling a little bit disoriented and shocked, I wake up Nancy and meekly asks her what the answer to her question was.
Without a word, this woman reached out to her bag, removed a 1K note, handed it over to me and went back to sleep!

Wait..

She too didn’t know the answer?

Damn!

I Must Seek State Permission To Fly Out Of Tanzania – Diamond Platnumz

0

Bongo Flava sensation Diamond Platnumz has launched a stinging attack on the Tanzanian government for always treating him like a villain despite being one of the top taxpayers in the country’s entertainment industry.

The singer, who is currently on a media tour in his country to publicize his latest release, an EP, dubbed FOA (First of All), claims the artists under his Wasafi record label have always been humiliated and treated unfairly by the government of the day.

Speaking on The Switch show that airs on Wasafi FM, where the crooner is a major shareholder, Diamond claimed he can never leave the country freely like other artists.

At least not without the approval of the state agency in charge of music and arts BASATA.

“I think it’s only artists signed to Wasafi who are never allowed to leave the country without the government’s approval. Anytime I get to the airport, I’m always arrested and stopped from boarding. I don’t know why they keep doing this to me,” he told radio presenter Lily Ommy.

He added: “Whenever I ask for the reason, I’m always told I must have a permit from the government before I can leave the country,

To obtain the approval, Diamond says he is always forced to part away with Tsh 50,000 for the permit every single time he sets to jet out of the country.

He further claimed that even when he is traveling on personal business like going to see his two kids who live in South Africa, he has to get the permit

In a rejoinder, BASATA through its acting CEO, Matiko Muniko denied Diamond’s claims insisting there can never be a specific law for an individual citizen.

“The law is very clear to every artist whenever one wants to travel outside the country for any art related gig. They have to obtain a permit from BASATA where one has to pay Tsh50,000” Muniko told Mwananchi.

Diamond remarks came after the presenter sought to know why his name and those of his signees were not among the artistes who were paid royalties by the Copyright Society of Tanzania (COSATA) in January this year where his nemesis Alikiba was among the top earners.

When COSATA was questioned as to why all of Wasafi artistes missed out, the body said they hadn’t registered with it.

“So, when you tell me we are not registered yet we are paying for the government’s permit to leave the country, it doesn’t make sense to me. I commend President Samia Suluhu for this initiative, but I have a feeling those tasked with executing the mandate have failed,” he said.

The Bongo artiste added, “If you are talking about being registered by the government in any manner, then all Wasafi artistes and the label itself are. We fully registered in all those bodies COSATA, BASATA and TRA (Tanzania Revenue Authority).”

He said that despite his entire missing out on the royalties, he did not want to focus too much on the matter insisting the royalty list didn’t make any sense.

“Maybe the system is not well developed because if you look at the list it wasn’t making any sense. If they said we are not registered and even if we are, we are only being played at our stations, then why did an artiste like Mario who is played in almost every media miss out on the top 10 list. There were artiste on the top 10 who honestly didn’t come any close to what Mario has produced but were on the list”

Diamond went on to state that because of the mistreatment Wasafi has been receiving from the government agencies, he does not wish to be considered for any awards, launched by COSATA.

“I am not interested on the newly launched awards. I mean if you couldn’t pay me royalties, how would you then nominate me for an award? It does not make sense. I believe it’s good for other Tanzanian artists, but it’s not a priority for me. My focus is to compete with artistes outside Tanzania,” he said.
