Donald Trump says he won’t oppose move to unseal Mar-a-Lago home search warrant

0

Former US President, Donald Trump has said he will not oppose the release of the warrant that let FBI agents to search his Mar-a-Lago home earlier this week.

The US Department of Justice has made a rare request to a Florida court to unseal the search warrant. If the request is granted, it would mean the documents are made available to the public and could confirm the reason for Monday’s search of Trump’s Florida home – something that the justice department has not yet revealed.

The FBI search is believed to be connected to an investigation into whether the former president removed classified records and sensitive material from the White House.

According to the Washington Post, citing anonymous sources, documents relating to nuclear weapons were among the items FBI agents were looking for at Trump’s home.

Trump had a deadline of 15:00 EST (19:00 GMT) on Friday afternoon, August 12 to object to the unsealing but it is not clear what his statement now means for when the documents could be published.

In a statement on his social media network, Truth Social, Trump said he was encouraging its “immediate release” – but repeated his claim that the search was unnecessary and politically motivated.

“Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the unAmerican, unwarranted, and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home in Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago, I am going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents,” the statement read.

He said this was despite them being “drawn up by radical left Democrats and possible future political opponents, who have a strong and powerful vested interest in attacking me, much as they have done for the last six years”.

Monday’s search was the first time in American history that a former president’s home has been searched as part of a criminal investigation. Trump and other Republicans have condemned the move as politically motivated.

The justice department has followed its normal practice of remaining silent during an active investigation as search warrants traditionally remain sealed during a pending investigation.

But US Attorney general Garland said he was asking a court to make documents connected to the search warrant publicly available, as the public has taken a keen interest to the investigations.

“The public’s clear and powerful interest in understanding what occurred under these circumstances weighs heavily in favour of unsealing,” justice department lawyers said in a motion filed in federal court on Thursday.

A Brutal Lesson From Zambian Politics: No Internet, No Votes

0

By John Masuku

By shutting down the internet on August 12 election day in Zambia, the government of Edgar Lungu thought that it had found a tactic to stop people from sharing information on how others voted in different parts of the southern African country.

But Sam Phiri, a CMDS fellow and lecturer in the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Zambia thinks that by taking such drastic action, Lungu’s Patriotic Front (PF) administration was actually shooting itself in the foot, eventually paving way for voters, mainly youngsters, to bring to power five-time election loser Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development (UPND).

The Zambian presidential and parliamentary elections brought a tight race between one of the country’s richest businessmen Hichilema and incumbent Edgar Lungu. Hichilema, who won after five unsuccessful runs, used his humble origins as a cattle herder and his entry into the corporate world as a finance, property, healthcare, tourism and ranching entrepreneur to appeal to the electorate.

Lungu had been in power since 2015 when he took over the presidency after the death in office of Michael Sata. He needed a constitutional court approval to run again after the expiry of his second term, as Zambia’s constitution states that anyone who has been elected president twice cannot be re-elected for a third time.

The internet restrictions were imposed three days before the elections, when authorities in Zambia intentionally blocked access to popular social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The shutdown frustrated many, as it affected their ability to send and receive information about the election, while also disrupting their lives, work, education, and relationships.

The restrictions remained in effect while the votes were being counted, leading Phiri to argue that the shutdown may have been part of “a ploy of stopping the results from being leaked, as these were made available to the political party monitors at constituency level before they were ‘verified’ by the electoral commission headquarters and thereafter announced to the whole nation.”

Civil society organizations took the election management body to court, bringing an end to the internationally condemned practice of internet closure and violation of rights with a court order.

Phiri says that the internet blackout dealt Lungu and his former ruling party a heavy blow. “The impact of the shutdown may have worked against the PF,” he said. “Voters already on the queues to the booth felt frustrated that they could not talk to their colleagues in other parts of the country. They could then have decided to vote against the party.”

He described tempering with the internet as a terrible miscalculation.

“How do you suddenly take away Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Twitter from the youth and expect them to support you? A serious blunder indeed.”

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) regional delegation that monitored the elections was equally appalled by the shutdown.

“The throttling and subsequent internet disruptions in Zambia on the day of elections are deplorable, given that elections are at the core of the exercise of democracy and respect of citizens’ rights. […] Internet access equates to access to information and to the realisation of the right to freedom of expression,” said Golden Maunganidze, MISA regional chairperson who also chairs the MISA Zimbabwe board.

Restricting the internet was not the only way the government meddled with the media.

In the run-up to the poll, the government had closed privately owned Prime TV, a popular and critical channel, with the regulator, the Independent Broadcasting Authority, arguing, ”the cancellation of the license is necessary in the interest of public safety, security, peace, welfare, or good order.”

The Carter Center electoral expert mission to Zambia also noted some misinformation tactics on government-controlled information outlets.

“The repeated broadcast of disinformation and political content by the online accounts of state-owned media contributed to the unlevel playing field, advantaging incumbent President Edgar C. Lungu,” it wrote.

Phiri described the August Zambian plebiscite as “a social media election” observing that “new campaign methods were used by all parties, including mis-, dis-, and mal-information campaigns. The youth registered to vote and they voted in large numbers. They voted for hope, the promise of jobs and free education. All these aspirations were widely discussed on many social media platforms.”

Music, as a popular traditional storytelling tool in African communication also played a huge part in upping the gear of the election campaign. According to Phiri, what stood out prominently was the use of musicians by Lungu’s losing PF party in projecting their messages.

Zambia has a diverse media environment, yet it remains polarized along party lines. The elections only added to the divisions, with “a noticeable increase in hate speech, misinformation, and cyberbullying through various media channels. The election coverage by the public broadcaster, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), was perceived by some stakeholders as biased in favour of the ruling party,” said the African Union Election Observation Mission.

Phiri agrees. “Government media insulted the opposition, promoted ethnic sentiments against the Tonga people who mainly hail from Zambia’s Southern Province where the opposition leader (now president) Hichilema has his roots.

What we had in Zambia, during the elections, were media funded from public money but not accountable to the public and not owned by the public as such.”

He added: “As for the private media: these were more independent as they sought to investigate some of the flaws of the governing political party. On the other hand, one private newspaper, The Daily Nation, acted as if it was part of the government media.”

Phiri was generally disappointed with the standard of election coverage.

“It was generally poor and not issue based. Sadly, lack of safety was of concern with some journalists being beaten by contesting political party activists.”

Nigel Nyamutumbu coordinator of the Media Alliance of Zimbabwe (MAZ) who was part of the MISA regional delegation expressed similar sentiments: “Unfortunate reports of harassment of the media by various agents should be investigated and culprits brought to book. There is need to strengthen the media capacity to mainstream gender in electoral coverage and provide more coverage to female candidates as part of the media development agenda.”

As expected among newly elected African leaders when entering office, Hichilema, in his victory speech, promised a free media operational environment.

“The UPND government is not there to shut down Prime Television … (Prime TV), sorry about what happened to you. Shutting down media houses will not happen under our administration, you will operate as a business, you know your obligations as a business. But no political hand will be there to shut down your business.”

But only time will tell.

VPN: About this time last year they made us travel to USA, Australia, UK, Canada and France even without having a passport

0

12 August 2021

Several users from Zambia have taken to Twitter informing the general public that WhatsApp has been restricted in the country amidst ongoing general elections today.

The president and parliamentary elections culminate in a face-off between current President Edgar Lungu and opposition Hakainde Hichilema.

Internet monitoring organization Netblocks further corroborated these reports, adding that multiple internet providers in Zambia had restricted access to the American social messaging platform. Some of these networks include Zambian government-owned Zamtel, Airtel Zambia, Liquid Telecom and MTN.

Just this week, reports circulated that the Zambian government had threatened to shut down the internet if Zambians “failed to use the cyberspace during this year’s election correctly.” The reports say the government intended to go through with its plans from Thursday, the polling day, till Sunday, when vote counts are expected to have ended.

However, the Zambian government, via its Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Amos Malupenga, came out to deny the reports, calling them “malicious.” Nevertheless, he mentioned that the government would not tolerate abuse of the internet and if any mischief occurred, there would be no hesitation to take appropriate measures.

“The government, therefore, expects citizens to use the internet responsibly. But if some people choose to abuse the internet to mislead and misinform, the government will not hesitate to invoke relevant legal provisions to forestall any breakdown of law and order as the country passes through the election period,” Malupenga said.

Zambia isn’t the first African country to witness this during an election as social media restrictions and internet shutdowns are now a recurring theme for most African states.

Countries like Cameroon, Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, Guinea, Togo, Benin, Mali and Mauritania have faced social media restrictions and internet shutdowns during elections. A handful of others like Chad, Nigeria and Ethiopia, on the other hand, have experienced similar restrictions for unrelated events.

Most governments argue that they carry out social media restrictions and internet shutdowns to maintain security during elections; however, it’s glaring to see the process as a means to curb the spread of vital information among voters and the media within and outside the country.

Today’s event shows that despite denying reports about an imminent internet shutdown, the Zambian government is heading in that direction by first cutting off WhatsApp. While writing on the WhatsApp restriction, Netblocks also reported that the Zambian government has proceeded to restrict other social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Twitter.

Still, internet users in Zambia are now using VPN services to bypass the restrictions on WhatsApp and these other social media platforms. Yet, it remains to be seen if the government will enforce a full internet shutdown.

The President Should Suspend The DPP In The Interest Of The Justice: The Pious Stream Of Justice Should Not Be Polluted- Peter Sinkamba

THE PRESIDENT SHOULD SUSPEND THE DPP IN THE INTEREST OF THE JUSTICE: THE PIOUS STREAM OF JUSTICE SHOULD NOT BE POLLUTED

I understand from press reports that following guidance by the Attorney General (AG) to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) that her request for the President to lift her oath of office has been denied, she has rejected the guidance and wants only the President to reply to her.

Now, according to Article 177(5) of the Constitution of Zambia Amendment 2016, the AG is the chief legal adviser to Government. The AG represents Government in civil proceedings to which Government is a party, and gives advice on any agreement, treaty or convention to which Government intends to become a party or in respect of which Government has an interest before they are concluded.

In this case, there is a purported agreement which was entered into by the DPP and the former Provisional Liquidator for KCM. The legality of the purported agreement has been challenged before court, and for that matter, contested by the State through the AG.

Now, since the request by the DPP concerns issues that are before court, in particular, a purported agreement involving the State, then according to Article 177(5) of the Constitution, the most appropriate person to respond to the DPP’s request is the AG who is handling the matter in court.

As I have indicated several times in my previous posts, and echoed by Professor Muna Ndulo, who is a distinguished expert on Constitutional Law, the DPP does not require a waiver from the President to testify before a lawfully constituted tribunal like JCC. The President lacks power to do so. Thus, insisting to get the President to give the perceived waiver is pushing an open door. Since the matter at hand involves a purported agreement that has been contested by the State in court, it is very unlikely that the President will directly assist her to push an already open door.

Under the circumstances, and in the interest of protecting the integrity of the justice system, I call upon the President to invoke Article 181 of the Constitution by suspending the DPP.

Article 181 provides as follows:

“Where the Director of Public Prosecutions is absent from Zambia or is unable to perform the functions of office due to illness or other cause, the President shall appoint a person qualified to perform the functions of Director of Public Prosecutions to perform those functions until that appointment is revoked or until the Director of Public Prosecutions returns to office.”

Clearly, the relationship between the DPP and the AG is toxic. With such a toxic relationship, there is no way that the AG would be seen to justly represent the State in the matter of the purported agreement that is before court, where the DPP is a State witness.

It is in the best interest of justice that the State witness is not hostile. In other words, the State witness should not have a toxic relationship with the AG, who is representing the State. This entails that the witness to represent the DPP’s office in the purported agreement case should be another person because the pious stream of justice must not be polluted.

Meantime, I retaliate my humble advice to the DPP to resign with honour. The space remaining for honourable departure has extremely shrunk.

MAGWENDE SACRIFICED…corruption under UPND is methodical, says Mundubile

MAGWENDE SACRIFICED
…corruption under UPND is methodical, says Mundubile

By Kombe Mataka

BRIAN Mundubile has challenged the UPND to come clean on the US $100 million prefab hospitals.
He says fired Ministry of Health permanent secretary for administration George Magwende has been sacrificed to save face of the government.

“So what we have realised is that the meticulous and methodical approach is in another form of corruption. The corruption under the UPND is methodical and meticulous going by what happened to the US $100 million deal,” Mundubile charged.

Mundubile, the Mporokoso PF member of parliament, told The Mast that it was good that documents surrounding the contract were now in public domain because PF was dismissed when it raised a red flag on the same.

“The documents are in public domain now surrounding the procurement of this particular contract. It is not so much about when it was started and who started it. It is so much about who contacted and the manner in which they contracted,” Mundubile, the leader of the opposition in parliament, said.

“If you remember my issue there and my question in parliament was the US $100 million that is shrouded in secrecy. At that time we were saying it is shrouded in secrecy and I went further to say, it smells of corruption because of the manner in which it was being handled. The Vice-President [Mutale Nalumango] then answered and said ‘It was actually cancelled’. We went on further to say, ‘how was it cancelled if the contract was properly procured?’”

Mundubile said the UPND had absconded all queries about the contract.
“So if at all the reason for cancellation was corruption or malpractice, why is the President quiet because the President came to House and told us that he will be naming and shaming when it comes to corruption. And we saw him go out on our colleague for owning a house worth US $150,000. Bowman is a case. Our concern was why was the President quiet when a contract for US $100 million dollars that was questionable…” he asked.

Mundubile said cancelling the contract confirmed the PF suspicions.
“It was only cancelled after we raised issue. After [PF spokesperson] honourable [Raphael] Nakacinda raised issue. They quickly cancelled. Now does this mean it wasn’t properly procured? If it followed all the procedures, why did they cancel it because Zambia as a country is likely to lose money in damages. The contractor will sue for damages. He can walk away with as much as 30 per cent of the contract sum for doing nothing because he has been inconvenienced,” he warned. “You see when a decision is made that we are going to build hospitals in three provinces, what follows now is the procurement process. A transparent process entails there was an advert. People compete. The companies compete. The tender process and the selection is open because that is what the President promised the Zambian people. That he was going to be transparent and accountable and ‘I will go by the book, I will be meticulous. I will be methodical. So what we have realised is that the meticulous and methodical approach is in another form of corruption. The corruption under the UPND is methodical and meticulous going by what happened to the US $100 million deal.”
And Mundubile said the fired Ministry of Health permanent secretary for administration George Magwende has been sacrificed to save face of the government.

“George Magwende has just been sacrificed. That is the point and we still need an explanation. What was the malpractice? Have you (government ) called out the problem? We still want to know. Will the contractor claim damages? The Attorney General [Mulilo Kabesha] approved, Secretary to the Treasury [Felix Nkulukusa] approved. Everybody approved. So why has the PS being sacrificed?” asked Mundubile. “Secondly, with all that process that is called a due process, it means the contractor can sue for damages. So where is the invisible hand in this procurement? All we know is there is an invisible hand and government should come clean. It is a South African company, friendly to UPND…This is what our issue is when we say there is corruption in the UPND. Secondly we are saying there is no sincerity when it comes to fighting corruption. If there was so much noise made over Lusambo’s house, why should the President be quiet over US $100 million?”

Where was Minister Masebo when Magwende committed The alleged crime?

Where was Minister Masebo when Magwende committed The alleged crime?

By John Phiri

Zambia is a very funny country because most of its population operates without conviction or any kind of loyalty to ideology, group or personal relationship.

Before you think we are advocating adherence to personal friendship regardless, read up to the end of this article.

There are two simple questions that have arisen following the sacking of Dr George Magwende from his job as Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration, at the Ministry of Health, and his subsequent “interrogation” at the Anti Corruption Commission.

The first one is where was the Minister of Health when Magwende was doing what he is accused of having done without following procedure?

This is not a frivolous question. Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo is credited with personally having halted the process of acquiring essential drugs for public health facilities because she did not like the personalities behind companies that were in the process of being contracted to supply.

She then ordered that a fresh tender be advertised, a decision that has to date resulted in the government struggling to meet demand for drugs in public health facilities.

The persistent shortage of drugs had its consistent whistleblower, Dr Brian Sampa, who ensured the shortage of drugs was a news item nearly every week, until state agents engineered his ouster from being President of the now moribund and compromised Resident Doctors Association of Zambia(RDAZ).

President Hakainde Hichilema, instead of taking objective action to verify whether or not there has been a shortage of drugs in public health facilities, instead went to the Ministry of Health Headquarters to endorse the seemingly untouchable Masebo’s mismanagement of affairs at the Ministry.

He could not as much as bring himself to censure Masebo in any way for the shortage of drugs which Ministry of Health senior officials attributed directly to her refusal to allow supply of drugs by companies on her personal blacklist.

So, how does a Minister who cancelled a drugs procurement tender fail to have noticed such things as the $100 million prefab health facilities contract?

Second question: is this the same Magwende who was fired from the Prisons and Correctional Services for being perceived to have helped Hichilema during the time of his detention at Mukobeko Maximum Prison on trumped up charges of treason?

For those of you who have forgotten, here is a reminder of the story in 2017:

“CHIPOLOPOLO team doctor George Magwende has been dropped from his position almost three months after Zambia Reports first reported the scheme.

On August 24, 2017, Zambia Reports revealed that the Football Association of Zambia was set to sack Magwende for allegedly ‘kissing’ UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema at Mukobeko Correctional Facility where he operated as Senior Assistant Commissioner in charge of health services. Magwende was retired from his post at prisons that August.

The physician was one of only two Zambians holding a diploma in sports medicine, a qualification mandatory for all national team physicians.

Magwende was allegedly seen talking to opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema at Mukobeko Maximum Prison.

Sources stated that the brief meeting between Magwende and Hichilema led the Patriotic Front government to retire the former from the Zambia Prisons service in national interest.

All this would be funny if politics was not so ruinous of young professional careers.

Zim Govt bans award-winning Chamisa documentary for ‘potential to incite violence’; producers vow Constitutional Court fight

0

THE Zimbabwe government has banned “President,” Danish filmmaker Camilla Nielsson’s Oscar-shortlisted documentary about the African nation’s corrupt 2018 presidential election, Variety can exclusively reveal.

In a letter dated June 16, the country’s censorship board slapped a ban on the Sundance prize-winning documentary, insisting that it “has the potential to incite violence” as Zimbabwe gears up for presidential elections in 2023.

The filmmakers are now challenging the ruling in Zimbabwe’s constitutional court, promising a long legal battle ahead.

“President” is the follow-up to Nielsson’s critically acclaimed “Democrats,” which chronicled the laborious construction of Zimbabwe’s 2013 constitution. It captures Zimbabwe at a crossroads, as it prepares for its first election since the ouster of Robert Mugabe, who was forced from power after nearly four decades in the wake of a 2017 military coup.

The film follows opposition leader Nelson Chamisa as he challenges the dictator’s successor, Emmerson Mnangagwa, while trying to undo the corrupt legacy of Mugabe’s reign. Deftly moving from raucous political rallies to drab meeting rooms to the halls of the highest court in the land, Nielsson and DoP Henrik Bohn Ipsen follow the dwindling hopes of the opposition party as a systemic campaign of rigging, intimidation, fraud and outright violence — capped by a harrowing crackdown on a post-election protest that left six dead — enables the ruling ZANU-PF party to claim an ill-gotten victory.

“President” will be released across the U.S. on PBS’ award-winning POV documentary series on Aug. 8.

Speaking to Variety from Copenhagen, Nielsson described the film as a “testimony to the injustice of a stolen election.” Oscar-nominated producer Signe Byrge Sørensen (“The Act of Killing,” “The Look of Silence”) said the ban is the latest example of a growing crackdown on dissent by the Zimbabwean government, adding: “They’re worried about people seeing with their own eyes what’s happening.”

Chris Mhike, of the Harare law office Atherstone & Cook, who is handling the case for the Danish filmmakers, has filed a challenge to the censorship board’s ruling in the constitutional court. In a statement provided to Variety, he said: “Our constitution identifies Zimbabwe as a democracy. Consequently, we find this ban to be extremely disappointing.” The board’s decision, he added, “flies in the face of the democratic tradition of free speech.”

Nielsson had high hopes when she returned to Zimbabwe to film “President,” which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021. “Zimbabwe had been under Mugabe’s rule since independence in 1980,” she said. “When he was removed in a military coup, there was so much hope among the entire population that there was a time for change now, for democratic winds to finally arrive in the country. We were privileged and humbled by being able to tell this story.”

“President” won a World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for verité filmmaking at Sundance. Variety’s Guy Lodge called the “vital, devastating documentary” a “galvanizing, epic-scale docuthriller,” describing it as “another essential chapter in Zimbabwe’s long, endlessly sidetracked road to democracy.”

The film continues a nearly decade-long chronicling of Zimbabwe’s democratic transition for Nielsson, whose previous film, “Democrats,” was also banned by the government when it was released in 2015. The decision was ultimately overturned by Zimbabwe’s high court after a three-year legal battle.

In neither instance was the censorship board obliged by law to explain its ruling. Nielsson referenced a government claim that the film threatened to “incite violence and undermine the state” ahead of next year’s elections, dryly noting: “Basically, to create a revolution.”

Four years ago, former vice president Mnangagwa came to power amid high hopes that he could reverse decades of hardline rule under the strongman Mugabe and bring Zimbabwe back from the brink of economic collapse. But a man dubbed “the crocodile” because of his ruthlessness and political cunning has instead presided over an economy in freefall, while failing to deliver on promised reforms and ruthlessly quashing dissent.

In July 2020, the author and filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga (“I Want a Wedding Dress”) was arrested at a protest in Harare along with journalist Julie Barnes, where both were calling for the release of journalists and for institutional reforms.

arlier this year, the Berlin International Film Festival called for their acquittal on charges of inciting public violence, disturbing the peace and bigotry, and violating pandemic regulations. A freelance reporter for the New York Times, Jason Moyo, was also convicted this year of breaching the country’s immigration laws on what were widely seen as politically motivated charges.

“The political climate is more brutal than during Mugabe’s era,” said Nielsson. “It was unbelievable to imagine five or six years ago that the post-Mugabe regime would be more brutal, but the number of arrests of journalists, human-rights activists, the number of killings of dissenting voices [has increased].” She added: “I don’t know if I will go back to Zimbabwe until this [case] is resolved. I have a different kind of fear for [Mnangagwa] than I did for Mugabe.”

Despite the worsening climate, the filmmakers said that the move to take their case to the constitutional court would itself represent a victory, regardless of the outcome. “If we can win the case — and even if we don’t win the case — the paper trail of fighting these battles is still creating a legal precedent that is important for future generations of journalists and filmmakers in Zimbabwe,” said Nielsson. “It will create a paper trail about the illegal acts of the current government.”

Byrge added that the legal battle only underscores the universal message at the heart of “President,” at a time when democratic norms around the world appear to be on shaky ground. “Democracies everywhere are so precious,” she said. “This film is extremely important for Zimbabwe, but it’s also important for the rest of us to remember what it is that democracy really is and how important it is and how wrong it can go once we lose it.”

President Hakainde Hichilema has lost sight of real enemies…as he focuses on destroying PF says Antonio Mwanza

11th August 2022

President Hakainde Hichilema has lost focus by making the former ruling party PF as the enemy while his real enemy remains in plain sight—the Zambian voters says Antonio Mwanza.

Mwanza, the PF Comms Director warned that by the time President Sammy Hichilema wakes up from his PF obsession, it will be election day and he must prepare to pack because Zambians will rise against him.
“The opposition to President Sammy is not PF, it’s the people of Zambia that he lied to in order to get elected and they are as follow:”

• The university students at UNZA and CBU who he lied to that he would give them meal allowances the day he is elected, it was a lie

• The youths that lined up for low paying temporary census jobs they never got at the expense of UPND youths, that was a lie

• The old ailing mothers that are getting less monies from selling pamela´s (mealie meal in small plastic bags) and ´ballies´ that was a lie
• The poor farmers that were told the bag of fertiliser and seed would reduce but have instead doubled, those are his enemies

• The parents he lied to about free education but have schools that can’t afford tissue and chalk etc, those are his enemies come election day

• Mwanza said President Sammy Hichilema may speak fast and well but, “when people are hungry Pamala pali empty, its hard to convince them.” Those are his enemies.

Mwanza said Hichilema Sammy´s lies have finally caught up with him and rest will be decided on election day that will be determined the number promises Sammy Hichilema fulfils or fails to keep.

The PF Media Director said, it is shame, the amount of lies Hichilema has told and keep telling Zambians but remained confident that Zambians have known that the Zambian President and h9s party are liars.

Mwanza was speaking during a live interview recorded for 5FM in Lusaka on Thursday.

Mwanza also told the interviewer to stop acting like a UPND cadre that aways seeks to excuse the UPND mistakes and heaping all the blame on PF.

You Can’t Use Magwende As A Sacrificial Lamb – Antonio Mwanza

GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE US$100 MILLION YAMENE BABA

…..you can’t use Dr. Magwende as a sacrificial lamb, Mourinho

Lusaka…. Thursday, August 11, 2022 (Smart Eagles)

Zambians must be told the truth, a US$100 million deal cannot go through without the approval of Cabinet which is headed by the President, PF Media Director Antonio Mourinho Mwanza has said.

Mr Mwanza said former Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration George Magwende should NOT be used by government as sacrificial lamb.

He said when he featured on 5FM’s ‘Burning Issue’ that the Permanent Secretary cannot write to the Secretary to the Treasury to ask for US$100 million without the approval of Cabinet.

Dr Magwende had his contract terminated with immediate effect by President Hakainde Hichilema on Sunday.

“……today, within 11 months, baba (they have stolen) US$100 million, they can’t account for it. And I look at Dr Mangwende, I feel sorry for that comrade for simple reasons. First of all, Zambians must be told the truth. A US$100 million deal cannot go through without the approval of Cabinet which is headed by the President,” he said.

“The Permanent Secretary cannot write to the Secretary to the Treasury to ask for US$100 million without the approval of Cabinet, without the approval of the line Ministry. The people who are supposed to be held accountable for this US$100 million yamene baba, it has to start with Cabinet, which is headed by the President. Iyi US$100 million yamene mwaba in 11 months, inayenda kuti? Who approved it?”

Mr Mwanza has however encouraged the former PS to tell Zambians the truth when the matter goes to court.

“What role did the ministry of finance play? What role did the ministry of health play? What role did the Secretary to the treasury play? You can’t use Mangwende as a sacrificial lamb. And I just want ukukoselesha umunandi Magwende, ba Magwende nga mwaya ku court, tell the Zambian people the truth,” he said.

“You were a junior officer in the group, an implementation officer, a permanent secretary employed by the President on a contract of three years. A very junior officer, you don’t make policy, the policy is made by government officials, Cabinet. You don’t approve government expenditure; it is approved by cabinet.”

Mr Mwanza also bemoaned the alleged scandals at the Ministry of Agriculture.

“Ku ministry of agriculture kuli ma scandal. Those scandals are too huge, ma scandal ya fertilizer. Imagine fertilizer is US$1,000 per metric ton yet they go and give their own friend fertilizer ya US$1,407 per ton, badyamo ma US$407 per every bag that they are selling, single sourced,” he said.

“Single sourced without going through the normal procedures of the tender. And now we are even hearing that more scandals ya fertilizer yabwela. Mind you, this is August, they haven’t even finished selecting people who will supply fertilizer.”

Champion Muzala Samukonga’s Humble & Inspiring Story

CHAMPION MUZALA SAMUKONGA’S HUMBLE & INSPIRING STORY.

By Miles B. Sampa, MP (11.08.2022)

Born in 2003 in one of the hardcore compounds of Lusaka called Ngombe. It’s a densely populated area and historically used by early white settlers and colonizers for their cattle (Ngombe) grazing.

Later Ngombe farmland grew into the current unplanned human settlement of mostly self made single roomed houses next to each other and with now formal road paths. Inside these homes is an average family of 6 children and only the tough get to survive atleast economically.

Elizabeth Phiri a Chikunda arrived in the 80s from Mambwe district in Eastern province to visit her sister in Ngombe and so did Moses Samukonga a Luvale from Chavuma in North Western province to visit his brother. They would later meet in the paths of Ngombe and fall in love and later married. They have 7 children and the name of their first born is Muzala.

Muzala’s family has generally been struggling to make ends meet and mostly depends on meagre income from daily sales from the mother’s street vending of vegetables mostly rape, tomatoes and onions . His father makes a bit of money sometimes from piece works installing dstv decorders. They live in a rented 2 roomed house and it became inevitable for alternative bed space to be found for Muzala as he grew older.

Muzala would then spend the day with his parents but go sleep at a Cousin’s house nearby. His cousin Wilson Mutupa played semi professional football with Buffaloes and Riflemen FC and would have spin off sporting influence on Muzala. He would take him along to training sessions and a feel of playing fields along the way.

Muzala started his school at Chamba Valley primary past the nearby stream he would have to cross walking daily to and from school. As in most compounds, most kids played football but he would excel at athletic related sports. This started to formalize even more when he enrolled at Munali secondary school. He would win every schools sprinting contest and soon identified into the Zambia junior athletes national team. His first win was in Kenya at a juniors international event.

Early this year Muzala qualified for the Africa games and won the 400M race at the Mauritius championship. He then participated in the Oregon, USA World championship and finished in the top 10. Then the big one came in Birmingham Commonwealth games in August 2022 when against all odds with 50 meters to finishing line, the eagle spirit in him manifested. He ‘flew’ from behind to surpass favour top 2 in the world from the UK and Jamaica. He beat them all by 1 second better to clock 44.66.

It was so much the last 10 seconds of the race that he fought to win from his heart. Mpakafwe come what may. Indeed where there is a Will, there is a way. While his body said no ‘we are tired’, his heart and mind said ‘yes we can’. Turned out his heart and mind won as his body gave up. He had to use a wheel chair out of the running track to the dressing room. His body however rejoined the heart and mind back in the stadium some few hours later to pick up the gold medal.

Exceptional story this one is out here to motivate all be it youths, old, male or female that regardless of all odds, where there is a Will, there is a Way.

May Muzala live to win more championships and also inspire our youths to aim high. When they achieve, Zambia shall also hold hands to support as they are doing today in appreciation of Muzala.

Yes is just ordinary boy from Ngombe compound. If he can do it; many out there can do it be it in sport or some other talent that they may have.

Muzala is yet to write his grade 12 exams as he dedicated his time fulfilling his athletes schedules this year which have been hectic.

Congratulations to Muzala, his parents, his coach, Zambia athletics association, the sports council and Zambia in general.

MISA Condemns Threats On City TV Reporter By Kasama DC And UPND Provincial Youth Leaders

MISA CONDEMNS THREATS ON CITY TV REPORTER BY KASAMA DC AND UPND PROVINCIAL YOUTH LEADERS

Wednesday, August 11, 2022

LUSAKA-MISA Zambia condemns the threats issued on CITY TV reporter, Mr. Wellington Chanda by the Kasama District Commissioner (DC), Elizabeth Goma and some Provincial Youth leaders from the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Mr. Wellington Chanda a CITY TV reporter based in Kasama, wrote a story on some youths in Kasama District expressing dissatisfaction over the outcome of the selection process to recruit supervisors and enumerators in the 2022 Census.

This development has prompted the DC and the Provincial Youth Chairperson, Mr. Paul Mulenga to issue Mr. Chanda with all forms of threats. Other party officials involved are Moses Kanyanta, Deputy Provincial Youth Chairperson and Doreen Namuchenje, Provincial Chairperson for Women.

“You want to start a war that you do not quench. I have always told you and I think you have started a war that you will not quench. I am very naughty but I try to be nice to everyone. But If you start me you will start a war that you do not quench. Can I tell you one thing, me I don’t care, if you want right now, I can be removed today or tomorrow for doing the right thing?” Said Elizabeth Goma.

Such acts are disturbing and retrogressive to the development of the media sector and an infringement to freedom of expression. The acts are also an attack to the Head of State following his commitment towards the enjoyment of fundamental freedoms of expression and the media.

We wish to remind the DC that media freedom and freedom of expression is a constitutional right that should be enjoyed by every Zambian. Madam Elizabeth Goma overstepped her boundaries and her actions should not be tolerated in any functioning democracy. Her actions are not only an infringement to media freedoms but also a thorn to democracy.

Further, we wish to express disappointment with the UPND Kasama District Provincial Youth Leadership for threatening Mr Chanda’s life. What the UPND in Kasama needs to understand is that Mr Chanda was only doing his job of informing the public.

“These are Politics and am in charge of the youths in this province. I have told you that whatever is concerning the youths in this province, ask me first. I don’t want to destroy your life or you destroying mine, no. I have counseled you that whenever, you want to issue a statement over the youths, you consult from me before anything. Young man, life is short and caderism hasn’t finished let me not lie to you. It is just smart now. Whatever is happening concerning the youths, I am in charge and you should call me.” Said Paul Mulenga

The actions by Mr Paul Mulenga, Mr Moses Kanyanta and Madama Doreen Namuchenje are undemocratic and an attack on the office of the President. The Head of State has on a number of times stressed the need to enjoy fundamental freedoms of the media and freedom of expression which we strongly believe are key tenets of democracy.

The Provincial Youth Chairperson and his compatriots have no right to demand that Mr Chanda should always consult them each time he wants to issue a statement concerning the youths in the district. The youths have a constitutional right to enjoy these fundamental rights such as the access to information that allows to make informed decisions.

We note with sadness that the three-party leaders mentioned have threatened to deal with Mr Chanda by applying politics against him and further stating that caderism has not ended.

Mr Chanda has on a number of times received threats of all forms from the provincial youth leadership. We have been informed that some youths have been mobilized and ordered to beat Mr Chanda for giving youths a platform to voice out.

We would further like to bring this matter to the attention of the President and the UPND leadership to discipline the leaders in question as their actions do not reflect the true reason why Zambians voted for them.

Women who use vaginal discharge as perfume to attract men are warned not to as it can be ‘dangerous’

0

Medical doctors have warned women against “vabbing” as it can be “dangerous” to their sexual health.

Vabbing has taken over the internet as women are using their vaginal discharge as perfume to attract men sexually.

The tactic sees women take their vaginal fluids and dab it on their pulse points – especially behind the ears and neck – so it acts as a pheromone.

Women who use vaginal discharge as perfume to attract men are warned not to as it can be

Writer and TikTok user Mandy Lee made the practice more popular after she talked about its apparent charm on TikTok.

Also, plus size influencer Jewlieah even vabbed at the gym where she managed to secure a hot date.

Since then, more women have been trying it while giving updates on their experiences.

Now, doctors are discouraging women from this practice.

Dr Paraskevi Dimitriadi, a private gynaecologist from the Centre for Surgery in London, has shared that there is little evidence to show that pheromones work in the same way as they do in animals.

Even more concerning, Dr Dimitriadi has warned that vabbing could cause some nasty infections down below.

The expert told MailOnline: “If you use dirty fingers inside your vagina to collect discharge you can not only potentially traumatise the tissue in your vagina and but also spread infection, potentially causing something as serious as a pelvic inflammatory disease.”

Pelvic inflammatory disease increases the risk of having an ectopic pregnancy and scarring or abscesses in the fallopian tubes. This can cause infertility.

Dr Dimitriadi added: “Dirty fingers could also cause bacterial vaginosis or thrush.

“If you have bacterial vaginosis or thrush your discharge can be malodorous and will not help you attract a partner.”

Ryan Giggs’s ex-girlfriend sent him their sex videos weeks after accusing him of ‘blackmailing’ her, court hears

0

Ryan Giggs’ ex-girlfriend, Kate Greville sent him their sex videos weeks after she accused him of ‘blackmailing’ her, a court has heard.

Jurors in the former-Manchester United star’s domestic assault trial had previously been told about an incident in Dubai in 2017 in which Giggs is accused of throwing Ms. Greville naked out of a hotel room.

Ms. Greville, 38, described the Wales manager ‘lovebombing’ her when their affair started. She said she saw him as her ‘knight in shining armour’ who would rescue her from an unhappy marriage.

But as time went on, Ms. Greville told Giggs’s trial, he became ‘two different people’, and by their final months together he was ‘pretty much relentlessly awful’.

Jurors had also been told how a friend of Ms Greville had noticed bruises on her arms following the alleged assault, which at the time she had dismissed as ‘sex bruises’. She later told the police the marks were the result of an assault, which Giggs denies.

But Chris Daw QC, representing Giggs, asked about a message from Ms Greville sent three weeks after the alleged incident in the Middle East.

The message read: ‘Good morning, babeeee. OMG this is amazing. Our sex is out of this world.’

It was followed by messages from Ms. Greville asking to meet him later that day, adding ‘it’s a long story’ but that one of her work colleagues had a problem with her ex-boyfriend who had hacked into her social media and police had been called.

Mr. Daw asked why was she asking Giggs about the harassment of a woman, if he was ‘such a terrible abuser of women’, as she claimed.

Ms. Greville replied: ‘Because at that point, it had not got to the point it had, not got the to extremities of what we discussed yesterday. It was gradual, it was subtle at that point it was not as bad as it was in 2019.’

By October 2017, Ms. Greville had agreed to come back from the Middle East to live in Manchester and work for the hospitality company owned by Giggs and his former team-mate Gary Neville.

She had a ‘six-figure’ salary from the firm and rented an apartment in central Manchester, returning to the UK in January 2018.

Mr Daw suggested previously the couple had a long-distance relationship but now the dynamic had changed.

Ms Greville has told the court she returned to the UK thinking she would be in a relationship with Giggs, but he instead became more distant.

Mr Daw said in January 2018, Giggs had to be interviewed for the job of football manager of the Wales national team and he therefore had a lot of work to do to prepare.

Ms Greville said: ‘The work situation was not the reason for him not paying me much attention. There was obviously other things going on in his life as well.’

The court heard the couple had reconciled in May 2019, but by then Giggs had deleted their sex videos.

He then messaged Ms Greville: ‘Do you still have our naughty videos?’
To which she replied she had ‘most of them’, before Giggs asked her to resend them to him, the court heard.

Mr Daw said to Ms Greville: ‘This is just six weeks after you say he was threatening to blackmail you with sex tapes?’

Ms Greville agreed and confirmed she had sent him ‘a number of such videos’.

Asked why she had sent them, she told the court: ‘Because we were back in a relationship.’

And on whether she had concerns that similar issues may arise between the couple in the future, Ms Greviile said: ‘I thought he had changed and he was in a different place. This was the same cycle of things. He promised he would change.’

Mr Daw QC also asked why she had not told her friend and business partner Elsa Roodt about the alleged assault in Dubai when asked.

Ms Greville, sat behind a curtain shielded from Giggs and the public gallery, said: ‘I was embarrassed and I didn’t want to admit it.’

Mr Daw said: ‘It was a bruise caused by rough sex that the two of you enjoyed a lot.’

Ms. Greville replied: ‘That bruise was not caused by rough sex.’
The court also heard how a few days after the alleged Dubai incident Ms. Greville messaged a photograph of herself to Giggs.

The message read: ‘Tan is coming along nicely. My sex bruise is coming along nicely too!!’

Mr. Daw added: ‘The truth of it is you did from time to time get bruises from sex.’ Ms. Greville said: ‘Not that I recall.’

Confirming that she had not reported the alleged assault to police in Dubai, she said: ‘No, I didn’t admit to the assault because I was embarrassed but I told Elsa we had argued.

‘I was later to work, visibly shaken and very upset which was evident that day. I tried to play down the bruising on my arm.’

Giggs is in on trial accused of controlling and coercive behaviour against his ex-girlfriend between August 2017 and November 2020.

He is also charged with assaulting Ms Greville and her sister Emma. He denies all charges against him and is on trial at Manchester Crown Court.

A Review Of President Hakainde Hichilema’s 1 Year In Office- Sean Tembo

0

A REVIEW OF PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S 1 YEAR IN OFFICE

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

PART 1 – THE ECONOMY

1. The performance of the economy is the most important variable which the electorate consider when assessing the performance of a particular administration. Although the term “economy” is very broad and can be defined using various variables, the Zambian people are particularly concerned with two of those variables, being employment and the cost of living. That means any good performance in an economic variable which neither translates to employment creation nor a reduction in the cost of living, is useless as far as the masses are concerned. For example, Government’s claim to have reduced inflation when the cost of living continues on an upward trajectory unabated, is meaningless in the eyes of the masses.

2. When it comes to employment creation, it is evident that President Hakainde Hichilema’s idea of creating employment is his Government directly hiring the citizens, as opposed to facilitating the growth of the private sector so that it can employ the citizens. Now, a Government can only hire a limited number of citizens whereas the private sector has unlimited potential in terms of employment creation. Therefore, in as much as the President’s efforts to employ 30,000 teachers, 11,000 medical personnel and 5,000 defense personnel can be applauded, it is a drop in the ocean when you consider the fact that we have more than 6,000,000 unemployed youths at the moment. In fact, in a properly functioning economy, the decision to employ additional civil servants should be based on the need for Government to improve service delivery and not just for the sake of creating employment.

3. On the other hand, President Hakainde Hichilema’s decision not to pay suppliers and contractors to Government for the past 12 months, under the pretext that he is still auditing their contracts, has destroyed more than 20,000 small and medium enterprises (SME’s) and resulted in the loss of more than 100,000 jobs. As we speak right now, Zambian SMEs are owed about K48 billion by Government, an increase of about K13 billion in the past one year. So the totality of the current situation is that whereas the President is boasting to have created 46,000 public sector jobs in the past one year, he has killed about 100,000 private sector jobs in the same period due to his Government’s failure to pay SMEs their dues. The net position is therefore negative.

4. When it comes to the cost of living, the President has been contradicting himself on this matter. On one hand, he often points to the fall in inflation as evidence of his Government’s success in reducing the cost of living. However, when he is challenged by the fact that the alleged fall in inflation has not translated into any reduction in the cost of living, he immediately sends his Bank of Zambia (BOZ) officials to explain to the public that a fall in inflation does not mean that prices are not increasing, but merely that they are increasing at a slower pace. So then, if a fall in inflation does not equate to a fall in the cost of living, then why is the President using it to back his claim of having reduced the cost of living? Well, maybe the idea is to confuse the masses, most of whom don’t understand these economic concepts. However, it is difficult to confuse someone that the cost of living has reduced when they still cannot afford a bag of mealie meal. Only God knows how much longer this deceit about the cost of living will be believed by the Zambian people.

5. Apart from the two critical economic issues of lack of employment and the high cost of living, the third key issue which the Zambian people are interested to know is whether the future is bright or bleak. Is the current economic situation going to improve, remain the same or get worse? Well, if Sean Tembo answers this question by giving his opinion, some people may say he is a doomsayer. So let us look around for an objective opinion from an independent entity. Luckily, the World Bank recently pronounced itself on this matter about a month ago. And the World Bank is as independent an entity as they ever come. According to the World Bank in it’s mid-year report for 2022, Zambia will be worse off starting next year going forward, than it has been for the past 11 years. In this regard, the World Bank downgraded Zambia’s economic standing from a lower middle income country, to a lower income country.

6. Naturally, people may ask how the World Bank categorizes the economic standing of different countries including Zambia. Well, it is quite simple really. They look at the existing economic policies of a country and use them to extrapolate whether such policies will result in an increase or reduction in the country’s per capita income, and how significant such a movement is likely to be. Therefore, the recent decision by the World Bank to downgrade Zambia’s economic standing means that the World Bank believes that President Hakainde Hichilema’s economic policies will make the Zambia’s economy worse off going forward, starting from 2023. Given the fact that the World Bank is unlikely to be affiliated with PeP, Socialist Party or PF, and that their opinion is independent and objective, and that they are more knowledgeable in economic management matters than the New Dawn, the best that President Hakainde Hichilema could do is to revise his economic policies.

7. But for President Hakainde Hichilema to revise his current economic policies, he would first have to admit that they are wrong and not suitable for Zambia. But is the President a kind of person who would admit that he was wrong? I personally doubt that very much. So far, instead of self-introspecting after the World Bank downgrade, he has stoically remained adamant that his economic policies are okay. My considered view is that President Hakainde Hichilema would rather continue pursuing wrong economic policies even if he knew that they are wrong, than admit that he was wrong and therefore hurt his pride and ego. In other words, the President’s ego is more important than the suffering of the Zambian people. It is Hakainde first as usual. After all he has 2.8 million Zambians who will support him unconditionally whether he does the right or wrong thing. So why mess with his ego, when he can mess with the Zambian people?

The Formular Shows that Bus Fares Should be Reduced by K2.50

0

By David Chishimba President – Association of Unemployed Youths

We all want prices of goods and services to reduce, so that the cost of living can also reduce, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of others. The economy is interconnected, hurting one sector has ripple effects on other sectors.

I have seen the saga among Taxi and bus drivers and authorities and the general public unfold after the Energy Regulation Board announced the reduction of fuel and diesel by K3.56/litre and K3.14/litre respectively followed by an announcement by Road Transport and Safety Agency’s(RTSA) directing taxi and bus drivers to reduce fares by K7 for intermine and Peri urban areas, K5 for local routes and 14% for intercity bus fares.

This has sparked debates for those who are for the reduction and those who are against. What I have gathered so far is that the Argument for those who are for the reduction is centered around the fact that taxi and bus drivers are quick to increase fares when there is an increase in fuel prices but always drag their feet when the time comes to reduce prices. For those who are against the increase, their argument is that the increment just doesn’t make sense. For example for some routes, when fuel was at K17/litre the fare was at K11,
Now that fuel is at K23, the government wants the fare to be at K9, which economically doesn’t make sense.

Others argue that this should be a lesson and the government should come up with a standard for reviewing fares proportional to petroleum products reviews.

After seeing this deadlock, I took the liberty of reviewing both the increments of fuel and fares starting from February, 2022 because that’s when the the review of the price for petroleum products was changed from 60 days cycle to 30 days cycle. The 60 days cycle has been in place from 2008 until February, 2022. The rationale behind the 60 days cycle was that it took 60 days for petroleum products to be transported via TAZAMA pipelines to reach Zambia and later on filling stations. So the price would remain unchanged for the next 60 days.

The price for petroleum products is determined by the trading of the Kwacha against the dollar and the pump price. The cycle has been changed to 30 days so that consumers can benefit from the gains made by the gain in the country’s currency or the reduction in the pump price which would otherwise not be enjoyed over the 60 days cycle.

That said, let’s look at the increments and reductions of fuel and diesel from February this year and see if we ca make sense of it.

28th February, 2022 – Increment
Petrol – K2.12/litre – From K19.84 – K21.96
Diesel – K2.61/litre – From K18.93 – K21.54
BUS FARES
Intermine – K3
Local routes – K1.5
Intercity – 10%

31st March 2022 – Increment
Petrol – K4.54/litre – From K21.96 – K26.50
Diesel – K4.68/litre – From K21.54 – K26.22

BUS FARES
Intermine – K5
Local routes – K2
Intercity – 15%

30th April, 2022 – Reduction
Petrol – K2.35/litre – From K26.50 – K24.15
Diesel – K0.58/litre – From K26.22 – K25.64

BUS FARES
Intermine – K0
Local routes – K0
Intercity – K10

31st May, 2022 – Increment
Petrol – K0.8/litre – From K24.15 – 24.95
Diesel – K0 – K25.64

BUS FARES
No increments

30th June, 2022 – Increment
Petrol – K1.80/litre – From K24.95 – K26.75
Diesel – K2.37/litre – From K25.64 – K28.01

BUS FARES
Intermine – K3
Local routes – K1.5
Intercity – 10%

31st July, 2022 – Reduction
Petrol – K3.56/litre – From K26.75 – K23.19
Diesel – K3.14/litre – From K28.01 – K24.87

BUS FARES
Proposed Reduction
Intermine – K7
Local routes – K5
Intercity – K14%

MY PROPOSAL
I took the average increment for 3 significant months which are February, March and June for both fuel and diesel.
Average Increments
February – K2.37/litre, March – K4.61/litre, June – K2.09/litre.
The average Increment for the three months gave me K3.02/litre

I also took the average increment for taxi and bus fares for the 3 months which gave me K2.17. I then divided the average increment of petrol and diesel by the average increment of bus fares which gave me K0.72. This means that for every K1/litre increment of fuel and petrol, local routes were increased by approximately K0.72 ngwee.

For example average increment for February, 2022 was K2.37/litre this multiplied by K0.72 gives K1.71. Rounding this off gives K1.5 as bus fare increment for local routes which coincides with the increment in that month.
So for the month of August the bus fare Increment should be:-
K3.35 X K0.72 = K2.41 ~ K2.5 for local routes.
I used the same formular to calculate for intermine and intercity fares. Therefore the taxi and bus fares should be;

Intermine – K4.05
Local routes – K2.5
Intercity – 10%

I know the government is eager to reduce thq cost of living, but it should do it the right way.

Victory is certain.

DPP’s Gagging By President Hichilema And His Men Abhorrent- Jackson Silavwe

0

DPP’s GAGGING BY PRESIDENT HICHILEMA AND HIS MEN ABHORRENT
By Jackson Silavwe

The Director of Public Prosecution (DOP) Lillian Siyuni SC., took an official oath in the following terms,

“I ……………………, having been appointed ………………… in the Government of the Republic of Zambia, do swear/affirm that I will in this office well and truly serve the Republic and the President of Zambia; and I will not directly or indirectly reveal or transmit any such information or matter as shall be brought under my consideration, or shall be made known to me, by reason of my office except as may be required in the discharge of my duties as such or with the authority of the President.”

The charges before the Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC) that the DPP is facing all arise from and became known to her “…by reason of my [her] duties.” She can therefore “not directly or indirectly reveal or transmit any such information or matter…”

There are only two exceptions as to when the DPP can reveal or transmit such information;

  1. “as may be required in the discharge of my [her] duties as such..”
  2. “or with the authority of the President.”

Appearing before the JCC is not part of her duties and therefore exception 1 does not apply. If she was to reveal or transmit such information to the JCC, she would have breached her oath of office.

Such a breach of office would then give the pack, which is after her blood,a real charge that could be brought against her before the JCC as opposed to the string of flimsy vindictive charges against her.

The vindictiveness is clear for everyone to see. There have been multiple statements made by UPND cadres and party officials echoed by Mary Chirwa the head of DEC, the Attorney General, the Minister of Justice and even President Hakainde.

They even withdrew her security protection! How low can you go? It is clear President Hakainde has already made his mind up about the DPP even before the JCC has examined the matter.

In the United States of America which we try so hard to imitate, the judge overseeing the trial of Derek Chauvin who knelt on and killed George Flyod expressed frustrations with the comments by a mere Democratic US representative Maxine Waters. The judge feared Walters’ remarks could lead to a verdict being appealed and overturned.

Walters is a mere congresswoman but in the DPP’s case we have, not only the Minister of Justice but none less than the President of the Nation prejudicing the matter to be heard by the JCC.

The judge in the George Floyd case called the comments by politicians “disrespectful to the rule of law and to the judicial branch….Their failure to do so, I think, is abhorrent,”

It is therefore not surprising that the government does not seem eager to waive the Oath that the DPP took. One cannot help but wonder what they are afraid of.

If the President and his men have nothing to hide why do they not activate the second exception to the oath which is

“or with the authority of the President.”?

The President must also be brave enough to emphatically say he is the one who has refused the waiver. He cannot do this through the Attorney General.

Article 93. (1) of the Constitution of Zambia states, “A decision or instruction of the President shall be in writing under the President’s signature.”

The Attorney General should go back to the President and advise him to follow the Rule of Law and do the right thing.

This farce has gone on for long enough, it must be stopped.

Lungu should manage PF transition not Lubinda, says Kafwaya

Lungu should manage PF transition not Lubinda, says Kafwaya

By Kombe Mataka

PF presidential hopeful Mutotwe Kafwaya says it is Edgar Lungu’s responsibility to manage the transition and not handpicked acting party leader Given Lubinda.

He argues that former president Lungu has the substantive mandate to manage things until either “PF elects another substantive president or his mandate comes to an end in 2025”.

“We know that most people are worried about what they perceive as a leadership crisis in PF. The truth is, there is no such a crisis. Former republican president Edgar Lungu is also the elected president of PF. He still has the mandate from the Patriotic Front members. As such, thinking that there is a leadership crisis is a misplaced idea,” Kafwaya said in a statement. “After losing the power to govern the nation to UPND, president Lungu decided to appoint Hon Given Lubinda as the acting president of the PF. This was so as to ensure that ECL stayed clear of active politics. As things stand, many people including myself are jostling to replace president Lungu as PF president. In the process, some people think we are in a crisis, which is certainly a fallacy.”

He opined that it is Lungu’s “responsibility to manage the transition and not Hon Given Lubinda”.

“This is because, while president Lungu appointed Hon Given Lubinda, we as PF elected him. Therefore, he has the substantive mandate to manage things until either (1) PF elects another substantive president or (2) his mandate comes to an end in 2025,” Kafwaya suggested. “Emmanuel Mwamba, Mutotwe Kafwaya, Chishimba Kambwili, Brian Mundubile, Christopher Kang’ombe, Bowman Lusambo and all other presidential hopefuls and their respective supporters should continue encouraging the general membership that we do not have a leadership crisis. We have both a substantive president and an acting president. We wish our party well.”

Reminded that the party did not hold an elective conference last year, he said the congress was conducted in line with the constitution.

“We had a convention in 2021 in line with the constitution where members were elected. The president was also elected. So those members and the president was also elected. So those members (of central committee) and the president, we have mandate up to 2025. So the reason we have to go to the convention as PF is just to elect a president that is all and for the fact that president Lungu has taken a back sit. Now that does not mean we have no president. He was elected by us just last year,” explained Kafwaya. “So he is still the president until we elect a new one or until his mandate finishes in 2025 and in that perspective, those of my colleagues who are thinking we have a leadership crisis must cease to think in that fashion. The election we held to elect the president and members of the central committee was in line with the constitution. The criticisms which followed were just political. It is not a lot of positions that have people in an acting capacity. It is only two positions which is that of the president and acting secretary general. I think the wisdom of president was that whoever is president appoints their own secretary general.”

Press Statement

ONE YEAR ONLY: HH HAS PERFORMED BEYOND EXPECTATION – ZEHEST

11th August 2022

Zambian Empowerment Hub for Entrepreneurship and Skills Training (ZEHEST) congratulates President Hakainde Hichilema and the new dawn administration for there tireless efforts as they clock one year in office.

ZEHEST notes with gratitude that the Nation has noted the progressive change it was looking for.

We note that in order to boost the economy, government should place emphasis and allocate funds to agriculture and local manufacturing.

This should include value addition in the agriculture sector because it will position Zambia strategically to advance intra Africa trade.

This is possible given the various bilateral agreements that President Hakainde Hichilema has signed with neighbouring countries.

ZEHEST believes that the agriculture sector has potential to create jobs and employment given the challenge that emerged from the census recruitment.

We are confident that value addition in the agriculture sector would increase Zambia’s international profile and competitiveness in the implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement.

ZEHEST notes that with almost a year of being in office, the New Dawn Government has performed beyond expectation.

This is because Zambia has seen increased domestic resource mobilisation, increased flow of investment and stability of the Kwacha against the Dollar.

ZEHEST encourages Government to ensure that the reduction in fuel prices and bus fares should reach other sectors in order for most citizens especially those in low earning brackets to experience the relief.

We affirm that the social sector spending and entrepreneurship development would be key.

ZEHEST calls for entrepreneurship because it is there to stimulate economic activity towards raising our GDP.

This should focus in key sectors like agriculture, technology, and services sectors.

We conclude that social sector spending be towards addressing the high cost of living and fight against poverty.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

ZEHEST is a youth led think tank Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) working around Entrepreneurship, Environment, Governance and Empowerment programs, projects and policies.

George Magwende says he is not alarmed following his appearance at ACC

MAGWENDE NOT ALARMED

…it’s just an inconvenience

FORMER health permanent secretary George Magwende says he is not alarmed following his appearance at the Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday.

Soon after the almost three-hour “interview” at the ACC headquarters, Dr Magwende who was dismissed by President Hakainde Hichilema on Sunday said his conscious is free.

“I am not alarmed. You know when your conscious is free it’s like you being called that you sold a jet. You would not be alarmed. You would feel inconvenienced but you will go and answer what you know. You cannot be alarmed. It is just an inconvenience,” Dr Magwende told The Mast. “I will not comment on the specifics [of the interrogation] until at a later stage but it was good. It sincerely went on well and we thank God for everything. It was an interview as they put it in the statement. As to when I am to reappear that one was left blank. I went in around 09:00 hours and just came out around 12:00. I think what took long was the interviewer waiting for someone to write. So there was that pausing. If they were recording, it could have taken maybe just an hour.”

ACC spokesperson Queen Chibwe said an “ordinary statement” was recorded from Dr Magwende as part of an investigation process.

“I must clarify that it wasn’t an warn and caution statement. It was an ordinary statement as part of an investigation process. So the commission at this point, we can confirm that there has been investigations that have been going on against him on allegations of corruption and today we recorded a statement as part of an investigation process,” she said. “And so at this point we cannot divulge any details of the investigation process until we reach at the point where we can give you more information – at the end of the investigation.”

On whether the probe is over the alleged US $100 million contract, Chibwe said the ACC would not give those details.

“Everything will be divulged to the public when the process of the investigations is concluded,” she said.

On firing of ACC officers, including one alleged to have stolen a K1 million exhibit, she said, “these are internal processes we are putting on as a commission to try and put in place a profession that is ethical and also officers that have integrity”.

“And also these are processes that are free of those that have been in those positions to appeal… They have the right to appeal even when they have been taken to court,” said Chibwe.

Widower sues mother-in-law for refusing to cleanse him

A WIDOWER of Lusaka’s Mutendere Compound is up in arms against his mother-in-law for refusing to conduct cleansing rituals on him following the death of his wife.

In some traditions, widows or widowers cleansing is a ritual which demands the surviving spouse to have sexual intercourse with another person, normally one of their sisters-in-law for men and brothers-in-law for women in order to let the spirit of the deceased rest in peace among the dead.

If this is not done, the surviving spouse will be haunted according to some beliefs.

This is what has caused 45-year old Alpha Banda to sue Emilyn Muleya, the mother of his late wife Caroline Musaka in the Lusaka Boma Local Court.

The grieving widower wants the court to order Muleya to cleanse and free him.

However, as far as Muleya is concerned
Banda has never been her son-in-law despite having stayed with her daughter for eleven years and bearing her two grandchildren.

“My in-law told me that I was free to go without cleansing because according to her there was no marriage between me and her daughter but merely cohabiting,” Banda told the court, presided over by Senior Local Court Magistrate Bertha Zulu.

Banda said he was surprised that the money he paid towards marriage was regarded as damage and not dowry.

But his mother-in-law insisted that she could not cleanse Banda because he had never married her daughter formally.

She told the the court that the money he was claiming to have paid towards marriage were charges for having impregnanted her daughter twice.

The 60-year old said marriage negotiations where supposed to be made after her daughter delivered her child, but the negotiation never occurred.

” I am not going to cleanse him because he has no written document to show that he paid lobola,” Muleya said.

She further told the court that that a few days after the death of her daughter, Banda stormed her house in New Kasama in the company of three friends around 19:00 hours demanding to be cleansed.

The court could however not immediately pass judgement on the matter saying it was giving time to Banda to bring proof and witnesses to confirm if he had indeed paid dowry.

The matter was adjourned to a later date.

Five more Manchester City stars are dragged into Benjamin Mendy’s rape trial

0

The jurors in the rape trial of Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy were today quizzed on whether they knew five other stars.

The names of Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Riyad Mahrez and John Stones – who all either play for or previously played for City, were read to the panel of jurors at Chester Crown Court being selected for the trial.

The potential jurors, selected from a pool of 38, heard the list of people who may be witnesses or could be referred to during the trial and were asked whether they had any connection to them or knew them personally.

They also heard the names of the complainants and were asked if they had any connections to Manchester City, Manchester United or police forces before 12 were selected for the case.

Mendy denies eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape. All the offences relate to seven women.

He will go on trial along with his co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 40, who has also entered not guilty pleas to all charges he faces.

Matturie, of Eccles, Salford, denies eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault, relating to eight young women.

Judge Steven Everett, Recorder of Chester, told the jury this afternoon: ‘There are 22 counts or charges, if you are feeling overwhelmed by that I can assure you will be having a lot of assistance on how you will approach that.

‘Don’t feel daunted or overwhelmed by that. This trial could go through to November’

Earlier Judge Everett told the jury: ‘Maybe you have heard their names. Some of you will be aware of the fact Mr Mendy is a professional footballer who plays football for Manchester City.’

All the offences are alleged to have taken place at his home address and span between October 2018 and August last year.

His alleged offences span July 2012 to August last year.

Mendy has played for Manchester City since 2017, when he joined from Monaco for a reported £52 million. He was suspended by the club after being charged by police.

Donald Trump refuses to talk on oath, pleads the 5th amendment as New York attorney general deposes him over investigation into his Real estate businesses

0

Former US President, Donald Trump has pled the 5th amendment after he was deposed by lawyers from New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office Wednesday, August 10.

Trump said Wednesday August 10, that he refused to answer questions from New York prosecutors led by James about his resort and real estate businesses.

“I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution,” Trump said in a statement, referring to the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

“I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’” Trump said.

“Now I know the answer to that question. When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the Fake News Media, you have no choice.”

For more than three-years, New York Attorney General James has led an investigation into whether the Trump Organization misled lenders, insurers, and tax authorities by providing them misleading financial statements.

In January, James’ office said it found “significant” evidence indicating the Trump Organization used false or misleading asset valuations in its financial statements to obtain loans, insurance and tax benefits.

On Wednesday the ex-US commander-in-chief showed up at a parking garage in the lower Manhattan building where one of James’ offices is located just before 9 a.m., rolling up in one of several black SUVs that escorted him.

Trump said in an extended statement afterward that James “openly campaigned on the policy of ‘Get and Destroy Trump.’”

“James developed a political platform and made a career out of maliciously attacking me and my business before she was even elected, or reviewed one of the millions of pages of documents we willingly produced,” the ex-president said.

“We cannot permit a renegade and out-of-control prosecutor to use this investigation as a means of advancing her political career.”

Trump added, “I did nothing wrong, which is why, after five years of looking, the Federal, State and local governments, together with the Fake News Media, have found nothing.”

Eric Trump, the former president’s son and a Trump Organization executive, defended his father on Truth Social.

“As my father sits for a deposition in front of the most corrupt New York Attorney General in the United States (Letitia James), I want to remind all all (sic) Americans EXACTLY who this evil woman is,” he wrote.

“The weaponization of the legal system – everything you are seeing – it is all a coordinated effort to stop what they know will happen in 2024.”

China withdraws promise not to send troops to Taiwan if it takes control of island

0

China on Wednesday August 10, published its first white paper on Taiwan since Xi Jinping came to power, refusing to rule out using force in its bid for unification and blaming the island’s “independence seeking” ruling party for deepening the crisis with Beijing.

The paper states China “will tolerate no foreign interference in Taiwan.” It comes days after China held unprecedented military drills around the island in response of a visit to Taipei by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

China had said in two previous white papers on Taiwan, in 1993 and 2000, that it “will not send troops or administrative personnel to be based in Taiwan” after achieving what Beijing terms “reunification”.

That line, meant to assure Taiwan it would enjoy autonomy after becoming a special administrative region of China, did not appear in the latest white paper.

China withdraws promise not to send troops to Taiwan if it takes control of island

China’s ruling Communist Party had proposed that Taiwan could return to its rule under a “one country, two systems” model, similar to the formula under which the former British colony of Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997.

That would offer some autonomy to democratically ruled Taiwan to partially preserve its social and political systems.

The updated white paper is called “The Taiwan Question and China’s Reunification in the New Era”. The “new era” is a term commonly associated with Xi’s rule. Xi is expected to secure a third term at a Communist Party congress later this year.

In the new white paper, China has withdrawn a promise not to send troops or administrators to Taiwan if it takes control of the island, signalling a decision by President Xi Jinping to grant less autonomy than previously offered.

A line in the 2000 white paper that said “anything can be negotiated” as long as Taiwan accepts that there is only one China and does not seek independence, is also missing from the latest white paper.

Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council condemned the white paper, saying it was “full of lies of wishful thinking and disregarded the facts” and that the Republic of China – Taiwan’s official name – was a sovereign state.

“Only Taiwan’s 23 million people have the right to decide on the future of Taiwan, and they will never accept an outcome set by an autocratic regime.”

Taiwan has lived under the threat of Chinese attack since 1949, when the defeated Republic of China government fled to the island after Mao Zedong’s Communist Party won a civil war.

Ryan Giggs blames ‘rough sex’ for bruise on his ex-girlfriend’s wrist after he bought an Agent Provocateur paddle

0

Former Manchester United footballer and assistant manager, Ryan Giggs says a bruise on his ex-girlfriend’s arm was sustained during “rough sex” and not as a result of a hotel room assault, a court has heard.

Kate Greville, a Public relations expert claims she was dragged naked across a Dubai hotel room and locked out in the corridor by Giggs during an alleged bout of violence, alleging she sustained a bruised wrist in the incident. She also claims he headbutted her, allegations he denies .

Giggs says the claim is “completely manufactured” and a “pack of lies”, and on Wednesday, August 10, a jury at Manchester crown court were shown “loving” messages sent between them in the days after the September 2017 incident.

In one message, Ms Greville tells Giggs: “Tan is coming along nicely. My sex bruise is coming along nicely too!!”

In defence, Ms Greville said a friend, Elsa, noticed her bruised wrist and she blamed it on sex because she was “embarrassed” to reveal it was the result of domestic violence.

“I told her it was as a result of sex”, she said, telling jurors her message to Giggs was a reference to that.

“I was making light of the fact I had told Elsa it was a sex bruise. It’s 100 per cent wrong, but I was making light of it.”

Christopher Daw QC, Giggs attorney, called her evidence “ridiculous”, and insisted sex was the real reason for her injury.

“It was a bruise caused by rough sex the two of you enjoyed a lot”, he said.

Ms Greville replied: “That bruise wasn’t caused by rough sex.”

When she said she could not remember receiving any bruises during sex with Giggs, the lawyer produced a series of messages between the former couple about their sex life.

“I’m sorry to have to take you through this”, he said, showing jurors Ms Greville’s message which read: “I want you so badly, rough.”

She went on: “I want it to hurt a little. Not in a weird way, I just want you to shock and surprise me.”

When Giggs called it “a fine line”, Ms Greville replied: “We just have to have fun finding that line then.”

The court also heard Giggs had sent Ms Greville a picture of an Agent Provocateur sex toy – a paddle – and talked of being “a bit more assertive” in the bedroom.

“We never used that paddle. Not once. Or any”, said Ms Greville.

Facing cross-examination from Giggs’ barrister on Wednesday, Ms Greville said she would face “consequences” if she did not follow the former footbaling star’s instructions.

In a statement, she had described herself as a “slave to Mr Giggs’ every need and every demand”, and told jurors: “That’s what I felt like.

“When Ryan said to do something, I would do it. If there was resistance sometimes, he made me feel like I had to do everything he said, otherwise there would be consequences.”

Greville said Giggs “had a negative impact on my relationships with my family” and “interfered with my ability to interact with my family”.

“He damaged relationships with my friends and isolated me from certain people”, she said from the witness box.

“He wasn’t consistently horrible. Overall it made me lose confidence and self-belief.

“He was hot and cold, like two different people, making me feel two extremes, consistently.

“He made me feel good, made me feel bad, made me feel good, made me feel bad.”

She denied speaking to journalists since the breakdown of the relationship and Giggs’ arrest in November 2020, and when asked if she was looking for compensation, she replied: “Absolutely not.”

The relationship began when both Giggs and Ms Greville were still married, and she told the court she believes they first slept together in December 2014.

She accepted “the majority of the time he was kind and loving”, but said Giggs was “not nice” for the last year and a half of their relationship.

“Towards the end of the relationship, it was pretty much relentlessly awful”, she said.

Husband who killed his new wife within hours of their wedding is found guilty of her murder

0

A man who killed his wife within hours of their wedding has been found guilty of her murder.

The body of grandmother Dawn Walker, 52, was found in a field inside suitcase four days after she married Thomas Nutt on October 27, 2021.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Nutt, 45, killed Ms Walker shortly after their wedding, storing her body in a cupboard before putting it in a suitcase and dumping it in bushes behind their West Yorkshire home.

Jurors were told that Nutt, who did not give evidence in the trial, admitted to the manslaughter of his wife on the basis that ‘he did not intend to cause her really serious harm at the time at which he killed her’.

Forensic pathologist Dr Kirsten Hope said she received Ms Walker’s body in the black fabric wheeled suitcase that she was found in.

Ms Walker’s legs were distorted, her right leg was twisted and her body was bent over with her face towards the wheels, the court heard.

But on Wednesday, a jury found him guilty of murder after three hours of deliberation. There were cheers in the courtroom after the verdict was announced.

He claimed he attacked her because she told him she wanted a divorce and was going to falsely accuse him of rape.

At the start of the trial, prosecutor Alistair MacDonald QC told jurors: ‘It is often said that someone’s wedding day, and the period immediately following, is one of the happiest times of their life.’

He said that this was not the case for Ms Walker ‘because her body was found stuffed into a suitcase and dumped into some undergrowth in a field towards the back of this defendant’s house four days after she was married’.

Mr MacDonald told the court that Nutt rang police on October 31 telling them his wife had gone missing after leaving their home in Shirley Grove, Lightcliffe, near Halifax, that morning, and he appeared to mount a search.

The prosecutor said the ‘hard and stark reality’ was that the defendant ‘knew perfectly well that her body was lying dead in a cupboard at the marital home’.

Jurors were shown CCTV footage of Nutt wheeling a large suitcase out of the back of his house and into nearby bushes just as a police officer arrives at his front door to follow up the defendant’s missing person report.

Mr MacDonald said Nutt then handed himself in to a police station and told officers he and Ms Walker had been on a two-day caravan honeymoon, staying in a layby at Skegness.

The prosecutor said the defendant told police: ‘We came back and she has got bipolar and is depressed, said she wanted to get divorced.

‘She put me in jail before, said I had tried raping and assaulting her.

‘Said she was going to do it again. She started screaming and I have hit her in the face and put my arm round her neck.’

Mr MacDonald said it was the prosecution case that Nutt went to Skegness alone, having killed his wife on their wedding night or the day after, and left her body in the house.

The prosecutor said Nutt returned to act out the ‘ghastly charade’ of telling her daughter she was missing and carrying out a search.

The jury was shown CCTV footage of the defendant and Ms Walker arriving at the Prince Albert pub in Brighouse for a reception after their wedding at Brighouse Register Office.

Mr MacDonald said witnesses described how Nutt and Ms Walker had been together for a number of years but had a ‘troubled’ relationship.

He said one neighbour described Ms Walker, who had three daughters, as ‘chirpy and energetic’.

This neighbour, the lawyer added, had said that in 2020 she had seen her with a ‘massive’ black eye and cuts to her face.

The prosecutor said this neighbour remembers that the defendant was sent to prison after these injuries appeared but the couple resumed living together once he was released.

He said: ‘She (the neighbour) recollects that Dawn and the defendant argued quite often during this period – one minute they were loved-up and the next they would be arguing.

‘She had never seen the defendant actually administer any physical violence to Dawn but she had heard arguing coming from the house and Dawn calling out: ‘Tommo, get off me’.’

Nutt will be sentenced on August 19.

Judge Jonathan Rose told him he would face a life sentence, with a minimum term to be set on that date.

Detective Inspector Amanda Wimbles of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who led the investigation, said:

‘We welcome the verdict of the jury today and our immediate thoughts are of course with Dawn’s family who have shown such bravery and strength throughout the investigation and trial.

‘They lost Dawn in such tragic circumstances shortly after her wedding and the whole family miss her dearly. They have had to deal with the cruel and callous manner in which Thomas Nutt disposed of her body, which is something that will always be with them.

‘We hope that this guilty verdict for murder will provide at least some small measure of comfort to all those who loved her.

‘We now await Thomas Nutt’s sentencing for the crime he has committed.’

Yes, Dr Magwende Is Close To Me – Fred M’membe

DR. MAGWENDE IS AN HONOURABLE MAN, A PROFESSION WITH INTEGRITY-FRED M’MEMBE

YES, DR MAGWENDE IS CLOSE TO ME

There has been some ceaseless media reports that Dr George Magwende has been fired from his job as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health because of his connection or association with me.

It cannot be denied that Dr Magwende has been been very close to me for many years, going back to 1992 when he entered Medical School here in Lusaka. I can say he has been a brother and Comrade of mine for many years.

And the Dr Magwende I know is very different from the one who is being summoned to the ACC.
The Dr Magwende I know is an absolutely incorruptible man, an honest and selfless human being. This is a man who has undertaken very risky humanitarian assignments in Mozambique and Malawi when those sister nations were hit by floods in the early 2000s. The Dr Magwende I know is a doctor who I had asked to go to eastern Congo in 2000 to take care of the ill brothers and sisters in response to request from President Laurent Kabila. All this was for no pay.

The Dr Magwende I know is one who responded favourably to my request to help President Hakainde Hichilema and ensure his health and safety when he was incarcerated at Mukobeko Maximum Prison where Dr Magwende was the Head of Health Services and the only active medical officer. And Dr Magwende paid a very high price doing this – he was fired from his job.

And here we are talking about a very young man with very young children and a young wife being jobless. I am talking about a trained officer with the discipline of a loyal lieutenant.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Dr Magwende cannot engage in the abuses that are being insinuated and bandied around. If anything, Dr Magwende can only be victimised for his integrity – inability to do wrong things and his courage to say no to wrong schemes.

And if he had done something wrong as a serving Civil Servant, what measures were taken to charge him and hear his side of the story? By being fired, Dr Magwende has been investigated, charged, tried and judged by the President, and has been found guilty. With these happenings, what would be expected of the ACC? To disagree with the President’s verdict?

This is certainly not the best way to treat other human beings. Yes, corruption must be resolutely fought, but it must be fought in a just, fair and humane manner.

Former Presidents Remain The Property Of The State- Hon Sunday Chanda

0

FORMER PRESIDENTS REMAIN THE PROPERTY OF THE STATE.

Reports that thieves broke into the residence of Zambia’s sixth Republican President Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu and walked away with some household goods must be condemned by all right-thinking citizens and calls for thorough and extensive investigations.

For purposes of this write up, Zambia has so far had seven Presidents with two of them, Levy Mwanawasa and Michael Sata, dying in office and the first, second and fourth heads of State Dr Kenneth David Kaunda, Dr Frederick Chiluba, Rupiah Banda after leaving the presidency.

Today, Zambia’s only surviving former President is Dr Edgar Lungu.

It is a no brainer that upon leaving Office, former presidents continue to be public figures. Though they may no longer make big decisions, they are, by virtue of having been in State House, still in possession of a lot of confidential information about the country and the government. A former President therefore cannot be separated from that of the incumbent President and Government at any given time on this premise. As such, the need to provide them with adequate security need not be overemphasized.

For purposes of clarity, there is a good reason why there exists the Benefits of Former Presidents Act as amended by Act No 33 of 1994 and No 21 of 1998.

Among the many entitlements accrued to a former President, this Act provides the following:

  • “A former President, immediately upon ceasing to hold office, shall be provided housing accommodation as the government considers fit before the executive house is built for him or her.”
  • “The State shall provide to a former President, within a period of not more than six months from the date of ceasing to hold office, three drivers, three motor vehicles with free maintenance and entitlement to fuel to the extent determined by Cabinet.”
  • “… a former President shall, upon ceasing to hold office, be entitled to a tax-free monthly pension at the rate of 80 percent of the incumbent President’s emoluments, all of which shall be a charge on the general revenues of the republic”.
  • Other entitlements include “ one personal secretary, three security persons, one administrative assistant who shall be at the level of deputy permanent secretary, and three house employees, whose number may be increased by Cabinet.”

Let me hasten to mention that the Act applies to all former Presidents, including those that ceased to hold office before the commencement of this Act.

In conclusion, the welfare of any former President, the moment he or she leaves office rests with the state to the extent that it will continue to dictate different aspects of their lives, up to and including their funeral arrangements.

Power was cut at the Edgar Lungu house…before ´thieves´ broke in and stole TVs- Raphael Nakachinda

Power was cut at the Edgar Lungu house …before ´thieves´ broke in and stole TVs

10th August 2022

Disturbing details are emerging that there was a power cut at President Edgar Lungu´s Ibex house early Monday morning about 1am before suspected ´thieves´ broke in and stole two television sets valued at about US$5000 in the bizarre robbery says the family spokesman Raphael Nakachinda.

“We have established that there was a power cut that coincided with the staged robbery at the house of the sixth President on the day of the robbery,” said Nakachinda who is also the spokesperson of the former ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

Another bizarre development is the fact that from the usual detail of at least six uniformed and armed police, on the material day of the alleged staged robbery the number was drastically slashed to only two officers without.

“You must know that the premises of the house of the former President is big so one officer was doing the rounds while the other officer guarded the main entrance,” Nakachinda said, “we don’t know why the number was reduced.”

Nakachinda concluded that the ground had been made ´fertile´ for an alleged staged break in whose reason remains unknown but also coincides with the absence of President Edgar Lungu who flew to South Africa the previous day for a routine medical check-up facilitated by the government.

Ray Hamoonga, the spokesman of the Zambia police has confirmed the incident without giving further information while the Inspector General of police Remmy Kajoba has chosen silence.

Many Zambians have remained shocked that the sixth President of Zambia became the first President in over 58 years to be ´robbed´ since independence in 1964.

They have called on the government to step up security for the former President whose wife Mrs Esther Lungu was in the house during the black out and the ´raid. ´

The President´s family, his wife Mrs Lungu, son Daliso and daughter including his son in law the husband of Tasila have been interviewed by law enforcement already on separate occasions.

This is a developing story that has stolen the news headlines in Zambia as many remain shocked and speculation rises.

One Year Of Boasting, Self Praise And Exaltation- Fred M’membe

0

By Fred M’membe (Socialist Party President)

ONE YEAR OF BOASTING, SELF PRAISE AND EXALTATION

While the political parties of our political opponents mostly represent the interests of a particular group of people, business or imperialist interests, our party is not a parochial association or grouping, and does not represent the particular interests of just a certain segment of the population.

Our party does not have its own special interests and never represents the interests of any specific interest group, any establishment, any privileged class or imperial interests.

Ours is different type of political party. Ours is an ideologically driven political party which is seeking truth from facts and which bases itself on the interests of the broad masses of our people, and not on the profit interests of transnational corporations and imperialist interests. We will never hire ourselves out to or be hired by transnational corporations and imperialist interests. We will always maintain an independent line and never be puppets, lackeys or agents or transnational corporations and imperialist interests.

And being ideologically driven doesn’t mean we are dogmatic in our approach. In whatever we do, we are always striving to link theory with practice. And the spirit of criticism and self-criticism is well entrenched in our party Constitution. Our party pays special attention to the ideological and political education of its members. Today our party runs or is associated with three ideological and political schools on our continent, one in Latin America and another in Asia.

And in whatever politics we engage we are always mindful of keeping our revolutionary mission, the socialist strategic objective firmly in mind. Our political engagements cannot be understood as a kind of political power struggle that our political opponents specialise in, much less a personal battle. The politics we engage in are a critical analysis of and reflections on tendencies that ignore the purpose of politics, misconstrue the political policies, and consequently harm the overall interests of the country.

Ours is a learning political party that maintains open discussion internally among its members and externally between itself and the people. And we constantly evaluate and elaborate the lessons from both our successes and failures. Through learning, we recognise problems and find gaps, adhere to the truth, and correct our mistakes.

We are constantly striving to improve our knowledge and practice. Contrast our approach to politics with that of our polictical opponents who seem to be obsessed with self praise and exaltation! We have witnessed a year full of boasting, an ending promises and praise!

Zambia’s current economic situation is bad, inflation rate is not a sign of economic improvement- Father Frank Bwalya

0

Socialist Party Member of the National Mobilization Committee Frank Bwalya has rated Zambia’s current economic situation as bad. Mr. Bwalya, who is on a branch formation drive in Copperbelt Province, said many Zambians are not affording basic things such as food and bus fares.

He said the recent improvement in the national inflation rate is not a sign of economic improvement. Featuring on SUN FM Radio in Ndola, Mr. Bwalya said low inflation rate does not translate into reduced goods and services and emphasised that real economy is about affording food.

“The current economic situation in the country is bad and it is in the public domain. I will give this example of a church service that I attended on Sunday. I knew that attending that church service, the platform that was given was not supposed to be a political platform and that I wasn’t there to politic but politicians should speak about the struggles of the people, the disappointments and so on. And I struggled to find what to say in that church service because a platform was given to speak to the people but as I was sitting there praying, the choir sang a song ‘Tulefuluka Kenani’ mu Calo tamuli insansa. We are missing the land of Canaan, there is no happiness in the country, and there is no happiness in the land,” Mr. Bwalya said.

“That is an economic statement and it perfectly reflects what is happening in the country. Everywhere you go that is what is happening, the people are missing a situation where they can afford what Canaan represents. People are looking for a situation where they can afford a bus fare. People are looking for a situation where drivers, RTSA, the government and all stakeholders would be able to come to a round table, speak sense and ensure that those of our brothers and sisters who are running buses are able to be assisted to run their business smoothly. Not this unpredictability that we are seeing in the economy. Today you increase fuel, before people even realise this change has happened and then there is a small reduction. You increase by K5; you reduce by K3, very unpredictable that is in my view what can accurately describe the economic situation not only on the Copperbelt but in Zambia as a whole,” he said.

Mr. Bwalya added:”When we now zero in to the Copperbelt, there are certain factors of course that we may need to look at that may not apply to other areas. The Copperbelt as you know very well, this has been a mining province. That is why it is called Copperbelt. Not so much mining in Ndola but Ndola has benefited for many years from what has been happening on the Copperbelt. When you go to Luanshya, I was in Luanshya yesterday (Tuesday), I was told after a meeting with our members, this man tells me ba Father kabiyenifye mu market mulya.”

“People still call me Father (laughs) but they know very well that I am no longer a Catholic Priest, a serving Catholic Priest of course I was validly ordained and some people say once a Priest always a Priest but I want to make it clear that I don’t hang on to that title and maybe for political reasons or whatever I have made it clear and I am sure many people do see what is on my finger (wedding ring) that kwalibako bamo ku ng’anda. So this man says to me ba Father, ba Bwalya nga mwayafye mu market umuntu aleya amilombe 50 Ngwee. Nomba 50 Ngwee finshi wingashitamo? And said this is the situation kuno ku Luanshya. There is no economic activity to talk about.”

“When we talk about the real economy, the production of goods and services. When you talk about the real economy, ubunonshi bwa Calo bwaba mu mpoto (the real economy is in a cooking pot). When we talk about issues of inflation and so on. These are issues that can be tinkled here and there. They don’t practically reflect what would be happening on the ground,” Mr. Bwalya said.

Kizz Daniel apologises Tanzanians, promises free show on Friday (video)

0

Nigerian musician Kizz Daniel has apologised to fans following his failure to perform on Sunday in Tanzania but he has rejected claims that he refused to perform because he did not have his chain.

According to Kizz Daniel, when he arrived in Nairobi in Kenya from Kampala in Uganda, the plane he was supposed to fly in (connecting flight) had already departed.

He then stayed in Nairobi for eight hours and got a connecting flight at 8:30 pm.

Upon arriving in Dar es Salaam, he said he discovered that his luggage nd equipment/Sound controlling devices were missing.

“The organisers assured me we’d get other equipment. We arrived at the hotel very late and still sent my band to the hall for sound check.

“Unfortunately, the band failed because the fans were already angry at the venue.

“I tried contacting the designers here to get clothes. When I decided to leave the venue, I was told it was unsafe already. The fans got angry”.

“We agreed with the organisers that we will apologise to the fans and organise another show.

“On the second day, news spread and the police followed me to the hotel, not to arrest me but to question me about what happened,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kizz Daniel has announced that this coming Friday he will organise a free show in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to make up for the one he couldn’t perform at on the 7th.

“We agreed to put up a show on Friday. A free show. So, I will be partnering with Str8up Vibes.

“Also, I must apologise to the fans. None of this was intentional. I love my job. Mainly, I love performing.

“I didn’t mean to disrespect the fans. It was never intentional. I wanted to perform. I came to Tanzania to perform, but due to some circumstances way over my power, we couldn’t make that happen,” the ‘Buga’ crooner said.

I thought I would be a hero but that wasn’t the case’ – Romelu Lukaku opens up on his woeful return to Chelsea

0

Romelu Lukaku has opened up on his difficult season at Chelsea as he vows to show his critics what he is ‘capable of’ while on loan at Inter Milan.

The Belgian striker has returned to the Serie A giants on loan, just one year after leaving them for Chelsea for a massive £97.5million fee and failing to replicate his fine form.

Speaking to DAZN, as per Football Italia, Lukaku revealed he wanted ‘revenge’ at Chelsea after leaving as a youngster, and didn’t become the ‘hero’ at Stamford Bridge like he had expected.

He said: ‘The season at Chelsea gave me extra motivation to do even better than before. I think in one year everyone has forgotten about the things I am capable of doing on the pitch.

‘That is a kind of anger that I have inside me. That now the team has it too, which didn’t win last year, all together we hope to do better and bring something home.’

When asked what went wrong at Stamford Bridge, he responded: ‘So many things. I think before, when I left, I wanted to take revenge at Chelsea because when I was young it was my team for 11 years. I had the opportunity to go back there and thought I would be a hero, but that wasn’t the case.

‘In March, when I heard there was an opportunity to come back here, slowly I didn’t say anything, but toward the end of the season we did a very good job with the club and I was able to come back here.

‘I make reflections only at the end of the season, so after the last game I put myself to think what my situation was.

‘I saw that as a player with Inter I did well, the season at Chelsea for me was difficult. I had no doubts, that’s why I made the decision to come back here.’

Lukaku was at Chelsea from 2011 to 2014, before he joined Everton following loan spells at the Merseyside club and West Brom.

After that he had a difficult spell at Manchester United, before returning to his best form during a two-year stint at Inter Milan.

In his second season at the San Siro, Lukaku fired the club to the title, scoring 24 league goals in 36 Serie A matches.

He then made a club-record move to Chelsea, where he scored just 15 goals in 44 appearances.

Lukaku also told DAZN that he doesn’t care about being the top scorer in Serie A and his main focus is to lead the club back to the title after they missed out to city rivals AC Milan last season.

Twitter worker found guilty of spying for Saudi Arabia and releasing private information in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars

0

A former Twitter employee has been found guilty of spying for Saudi Arabia and releasing private user information of those who publicly criticized the country in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars

Ahmad Abouammo, 44, used his position as an engineer at Twitter to access confidential data about users, their email addresses, phone numbers and IP addresses that can disclose their location, prosecutors claimed.

He then passed that information on to an official linked to the Saudi royal family in exchange for a luxury watch and hundreds of thousands of dollars.

An 11-person jury found Abouammo guilty of being an illegal agent of a foreign government, money laundering, falsification of records and one count of wire fraud on Tuesday, August 9. He was found innocent on five other counts of wire fraud.

Abouammo remained free on Tuesday pending sentencing. He is scheduled to return to court Wednesday for a hearing.

He was arrested in November 2019 and charged with 11 counts, including spying. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released from jail on bond.

Abouammo, a dual US and Lebanese citizen, worked for the social media platform from 2013 to 2015. He managed media partnerships with high-profile users in the Middle East and North Africa.

Prosecutors claimed the father-of-three was recruited into the spying scheme in 2014 by Bader Al-Asaker also known as Bader Binasaker, an aide to then-Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The pair met when Al-Asaker was touring Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco, California and forged a relationship shortly thereafter, The Wall Street Journal reported.

In December, approximately six months later, Abouammo met with Al-Asaker in London while on a work trip. After the trip he flew back to the US with a watch valued at more than $40,000, investigators claimed.

‘That luxury watch—it was not free,’ prosecutor Eric Cheng said during closing arguments last week. ‘The kingdom had now secured its Twitter insider.’

Prosecutors said that a week after the England trip Abouammo began accessing data from the anonymously run account ‘mujtahidd.’ Al-Asaker reportedly wanted the account suspended, but it still remains active today.

Cheng also argued that Abouammo took bribes of amounts close to triple his annual salary for almost a year:

‘They paid for a mole,’ he argued. ‘We all know that that kind of money is not for nothing.’

‘The evidence shows that, for a price and thinking no one was watching, the defendant sold his position to an insider of the crown prince,’ US prosecutor Colin Sampson echoed in his final remarks to the jury.

Defense attorney Angela Chuang countered that while there certainly appeared to be a conspiracy to get revealing information about Saudi critics from Twitter, prosecutors failed to prove Abouammo was part of it.

She argued that her client was doing his job while employed at Twitter and that the US ‘government hadn’t proven beyond a reasonable doubt’ that Abouammo was acting as a spy for Saudi Arabia.

The prosecution, however, pointed out that Abouammo received multiple payments of $100,000 each into a bank account in Lebanon that was created under his father’s name. He then made wire transfers of $10,000 to a US account.

He also failed to report the watch or monetary payments to Twitter, violating company policy requiring workers to disclose any offerings worth more than $100.

Chuang agreed Abouammo should have reported Al-Asaker’s gifts to his then-employer, but argued that ‘misstep wasn’t enough to convict him.’

‘We just spent the last two weeks in a glorified HR investigation,’ she told the court, adding that it was ‘important to make the distinction between breaking federal law and violating workplace policies.’

Additionally, prosecutors alleged Abouammo had recruited his Twitter colleague, Ali Alzabarah, into the scheme and introduced him to Al-Asaker.

Alzabarah, who worked in website maintenance, allegedly used his employee credentials to access email addresses, birth dates and other information about Twitter users who made posts criticizing the Saudi royal family.

Officials believe he provided the Saudi government with the personal information of more than 6,000 users in 2015, including at least 33 usernames for which Saudi law enforcement had submitted emergency disclosure requests to Twitter.

When Twitter asked Alzabarah why he was accessing the user data, he fled the country and submitted his resignation letter via email why traveling to Saudi Arabia.

Alzabarah and another man, Ahmed Almutairi, where both charged by the US Justice Department for their roles in the scheme.

Alzabarah, a Saudi national, is being sought on a charge of failing to register in the US as an agent of a foreign government as required by federal law, according to an FBI statement.

Chuang contended in court that prosecutors were trying to punish Abouammo for Alzabarah’s actions.

‘As much as the government wishes that was Mr. Alzabarah sitting at the table right now, it is not,’ Chuang told jurors. ‘And that is on them, they let Mr. Alzabarah flee the country while he was under FBI surveillance.’

Almutairi is also believed to have returned to Saudi Arabia. The FBI has issued arrest warrants for both men.

Gary Neville dragged into former Manchester United team-mate Ryan Giggs’ domestic abuse case with ex girlfriend

Gary Neville has been dragged into Ryan Giggs’ domestic abuse court case as Whatsapp messages and emails were read to the court.

Manchester Crown Court was told that Giggs met Kate Greville in 2013 after she helped promote his Hotel Football venue, launched with ex-United teammate Neville.

The former Wales coach is accused of using controlling and coercive behaviour. As well as ‘bombarding’ Ms. Greville, she claims, with up to 50 messages an hour and threatened to ruin her career.

She then later joined Giggs’ company GG Hospitality, owned by him and his former Manchester United team-mate, in 2019, and emails from that time sent from Giggs’ mobile phone and Ms. Greville’s work laptop were read to the court.

She claims he would get jealous and emails show he accused her of sending private messages and dating a man who also worked for the same firm owned by Giggs.

It was also mentioned during the trial that Neville’s assistant was present for an argument the couple had during a dinner at a hotel which jointly owned by Giggs and his former United teammate.

Giggs sent an email with the subject: ‘WTF!!! Blocking me’ after Ms Greville had blocked his calls on WhatsApp.

His follow-up email read: ‘F unblock me now.’

Ms. Greville said she had blocked Giggs after finding out he was in a relationship with another woman she named, Zara Charles.

Giggs then said if Ms. Greville did not unblock his personal WhatsApp number he would ‘chase her’ on the work WhatsApp group.

Ms. Greville said: ‘It scared me what he would send and how it would make me look to everyone else.

‘He could send anything because he was not rational. He could potentially send something of a very private nature, of a very personal nature, something that would embarrass me.’

Jurors were also asked if they had any personal connection to Sir Alex Ferguson, former defender Neville or executive David Gill – sparking speculation the trio could play a role during the trial.

In another instance, Neville’s name also cropped up when she and Giggs met friends including his former teammates’ personal assistant for dinner at the Stock Exchange Hotel – part-owned by the defendant and Neville – for dinner.

She said she was already planning to leave Giggs at a later date when he was due to be away with the Wales football team and she had signed for a flat in secret. She planned to speak to a lawyer about their dog.

Ms. Greville said the argument with Giggs started after she told a friend that a man had asked her out for a date.

She said Giggs asked her why she did not tell the man that she had a boyfriend and he was ‘angry’.

She told the court: ‘I said to this guy ‘I can’t believe you have asked me out, you have a girlfriend.” Mr Wright asked what was the response from Giggs. Ms Greville replied: ‘It was ‘why didn’t you say you had a boyfriend?’.

She then told the court: ‘He was angry. He kept having a go at me. He wanted me to agree with him. I was not prepared to do that. I stood up for myself.’

Ms Greville told the court Giggs kept telling her to apologise.

‘I stood my ground and he stood up and stormed out,’ she said.

‘He left me at the table. I sat there in disbelief that he had managed to twist this and turn this on me.’

Ms. Greville said she sat there for 10 minutes ’embarrassed’ before going up to their hotel room where Giggs had packed up her belongings.

She explained: ‘He had packed up all of my things and said he wanted me to get out. He was basically saying he was finishing with me and he didn’t want anything more to do with me.

‘I knew everything that he had done. I had the proof for the first time ever because he had always managed to convince me the whole thing was in my head and I was going crazy.

‘I was upset at that point. I had kept all that inside me all along.

‘I showed him some of the messages I had seen. I had taken screenshots, there was a lot. He said what I was saying was not true.

‘I said ‘It’s there, you can’t deny it any more. Then he got in my face and screamed and told me to get out.

‘He was very drunk and very angry.’

She said Giggs had been ‘screaming’ at her during their argument at the hotel and that she had ordered an Uber from the hotel.

Ms Greville said she then phoned her sister and asked her to ‘get my stuff and the dog’ into her car. She returned and was upstairs packing before 10 to 15 minutes later she claims she saw lights outside as Giggs arrived with his housekeeper and a hotel concierge.

Giggs started unloading her belongings in bin bags from her car at the front of the house and blocked her vehicle with his own car, Ms Greville also told the court.

‘I was really upset at this point,’ she said. ‘I was saying: ‘Ryan, please let me go… I just want to go’.

‘I was pushing him… trying to hold him off from getting things out of the car. I hadn’t seen him that angry before. He was drunk.

‘I know the whole situation had sobered me up. I had had a few drinks… but what had happened had cleared my head.’

She said Giggs was ‘throwing’ out her belongings and she was telling him she just wanted to go to her father’s home.

‘I was saying, ‘Please. I just want to go to my dad’s. I just want to take the dog.’ I was obviously very upset, he was my absolute world that dog.’
The pair then grappled over Ms. Greville’s phone in the hallway of the house and inside an adjacent utility room.

Ms Greville continued: ‘He pushed me backwards, I ended up being on my back in the utility room. I was on my back on the floor with my phone in my hand.

‘Ryan was on top of me. He’s pinning me down on the floor and trying to reach for the phone in my hand.

‘I was trying to do everything I could to get him off me. I was shouting my sister for help: ‘Get him off me’.’

Kate Greville said her sister Emma grabbed Giggs by the waist to pull him off but he pushed his arm back to try to get her off him and it is claimed he had hit her in the jaw.

Giggs managed to grab Ms Greville’s phone, pushing her head into the floor as he got off her, she said.

Ms Greville said Giggs told her he had called the police and was going to tell the officers Ms Greville had attacked him and was a ‘psycho’. She added that he was trying to ‘bait her’ when the moved to the kitchen and this is when she claims he ‘headbutted’ her.

She also told Manchester Crown Court, he ‘came at me from nowhere’ during a row over her finding evidence of eight alleged affairs ‘going back many years’ on his iPad.

Ms Greville said her lip ‘instantly swelled’ during the incident at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, in November 2020, and that she believed she had also broken her elbow after he pinned her to the floor in their utility room as he tried to snatch her phone from her hand.

Ms Greville told the court that, during the incident, Giggs moved into the kitchen and refused to give her back her phone.

She said: ‘I said ”I’m glad the police are coming because you attacked me and I’ll tell them exactly what happened”. That’s when he came up to my face and headbutted me. He came at me from nowhere, grabbed me by the shoulders, and headbutted me in the face. I said ”I can’t believe you’ve just done that”.

‘I was in shock and fell backwards, my lip instantly swelled so I put my hands over my mouth and I was really worried because I could taste the blood and thought he had split my lip open.

‘All the other times he had hurt me, this was different, he really wanted to hurt me, he looked me straight in the eyes and headbutted me.’ she concluded

It Is Not The First Time A Former Republican President’s House Is Been Broken Into. Rupiah Banda Experienced Two Break-ins – Thabo Kawana

OF HOUSE BREAK-INS AND THIEVES.

Disclaimer: I write this article as a member and Dynamic Analyst on this platform and not as a civil servant employed by Govt, therefore the views expressed are personal and in no way represent Govt directly or indirectly hence all ramifications thereof accrue to me as an individual.

(Imwe ba ndani imwe, mwa mvela. Palibe chigayo apa kuti mu yambe kulemba ati Govt has said…)

So I see that the reported break-in at Former President Lungu’s House has raised issues with the PF party Spokesperson claiming it is an indictment on President HH. And the other Zeroin claiming President HH is to blame whilst others claim this is the first time such a thing has ever happened where a Former Republican President’s residence or Office has been broken into by thieves.

I shall leave the details of the reported incidence to the Police as this is a matter of criminal investigations. But I would like to put a few facts straight over this incidence.

IS IT THE FIRST TIME A FORMER REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT’S HOUSE IS BEEN BROKEN INTO?

NO. It is not. Former President Rupiah Banda at his New Kasama residence experienced two break-ins with thieves climbing over his wall fence and stole all the big batteries of the big power back up (inventor) at his residence and it was reported and on record.

Then the second time thieves climbed over his security wall fence again and this time stole the entire water pump from the very New Kasama residence and it was reported and on record.

As though that where not enough, the office of the Fourth Republican President located in Rhodes Park opposite the heavily guarded Refugee office on one side and, the heavily guarded DMMU Office on the other side and shared boundaries with the heavily guarded residence of the late Former Chief Justice was equally twice broken into.

In the first incident the thieves got away with all TV sets in all rooms including the very office of Former President Banda.

In the second incident, they swept the office clean out of all artifacts including window curtains (Kwati ba kuka).

Did we hear anyone claim it was an indictment on President Lungu or an orchestrated operation? No. Because maturity and not wanting to scandalize or politicize issues characterized Former President Banda’s outfit (members and staff).

Thieves are just that…thieves. They can strike anywhere at anytime and there is no need to point fingers and indict innocent people.

My advise is to the PF and it’s members to stop patronizing the Private residence of the Former President with crowds of Cadres who’s character we all know of, that action exposes the residence which ordinarily should be a private dwelling and place of peace and rest. Some people among the crowds you tinta ngombe there are actually thieves, criminals and you invite them into a private residence in their numbers, big mistake.

Secondly, learn to utilize your Party secretariat for activities and not the private home of your leader. And for your private meetings, you can utilize the Office of the Sixth Republican President and not his private residence.

I have seen and read assertions that Govt must quickly establish the office of the Sixth Republican President, and some people asserting such are even former senior civil servants and diplomats. Really? What ignorance is this? Has the Former President hid his office from you people? Because the Office of the Sixth Republican President paid for and facilitated by Govt does exist and is located in Kabulonga on Bishop Rd. How do you not know this?

So yes, this incident is regrettable and unfortunate but it’s not the first time such is happening to a Former President and no need to indict innocent people, just stop exposing the man and his household to Cadres, have respect for his private residence.

I am Ready To Lose My Life For The Good Of Others And My Country- Chilufya Tayali

0

Chilufya Tayali

I LOVE MY FAMILY AND I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT THEM, BUT I AM READY TO LOSE MY LIFE FOR THE GOOD OF OTHERS AND MY COUNTRY

A lot of people like to say, “think about your wife, think about your children, think about Kiya, etc”.

I sacrificed everything to get my wife and I can’t live without her, but that will not stop me from sacrificing for other people who need my help including my Country.

My children are a gift to me and I want to see them grow into successful adults but that will not stop me from fighting for other children to have a life like my children.

Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” John 12:24

Jesus speaks directly about the need to die to yourself so that your life will bear abundant good fruit. But of course this is easy to say, hard to live.

Why is this hard to live? What is hard about it? The hard part begins with the initial acceptance of the fact that dying to yourself is necessary and good. So let’s look at what that means.

We begin with the analogy of a grain of wheat. That grain must detach from the head and fall to the ground. This image is one of complete detachment.

That single grain of wheat must “let go” of everything. This image tells us that if we want God to work miracles in us, we must be ready and willing to let go of all to which we are attached.

It means we enter into a true abandonment of our will, our preferences, our desires and our hopes. This can be very hard to do because it can be very hard to understand.

It can be hard to understand that detaching from all that we want and desire is actually good and is actually the way that we become prepared for the new and much more glorious life awaiting us through the transformation of grace.

Death to ourselves means we trust God more than the things we are attached to in this life. It means we believe that God’s plan is infinitely better than any plan we can come up with.

When the grain of wheat does die and enters the ground, it fulfills its purpose and grows into so much more. It is transformed into abundance.

However, one can only be ready to die to oneself if you spend time in prayers to see things from a spiritual realm.

Be ready to sacrifice for others and you will be shocked how God will bless you.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY AND REMEMBER TO SPEND TIME WITH THE LORD.
