25-year-old man set to wed his 85-year-old lover

0

A 25-year-old man has shocked the world after disclosing his plans to marry his 85-year-old girlfriend.

Muima met his older lover Thereza when he was looking for a house to rent while he furthered his studies.

He and his colleagues found themselves at Thereza’s house in Kenya and they paid rent and moved in.

Muima and Thereza became friends and she used to jokingly call him her husband, which he took lightly, but as time went by, both started falling in love.

Muima told Afrimax English: “The way she behaved and treated (me) pushed me to love her and though she is an old woman and in reality, she could be my grandmother but I love her.”

He recounted a day his colleague was away, and he was hungry and had no food in his rental house. The woman brought him some food and served him with so much care before asking for a kiss, and he obliged.

Their bond grew stronger afterwards and the couple spent time playing, lifting one another and travelling despite Thereza’s age.

“This is my choice. This is my happiness, as anyone else has theirs. Before pleasing others, first, please yourself and decide not based on anyone else’s opinions,” Muima told Afrimax English.

Thereza has grandchildren older than Muima, but she is not ashamed of being in a relationship with him.

She said: “I have eight children and 20 grandchildren. According to my boyfriend’s age, he could be my fifth grandchild. He loves me and I love him. I am ready to put on the wedding dress and ring.”

Muima is even ready to pay the bride price of 12 cows which his girlfriend’s children have asked for.

He said he has found love with the granny after being in many dramatic relationships, which were draining.

“I’ll never choose any girl over this one. I pray she won’t die before me, “Muima added.

Thereza doesn’t rule out the chances of raising a family with her young boyfriend. She said there are examples in the Bible of old women who gave birth and that gives her hope.

Black Lives Matter founders reportedly used donations to buy $6 million Southern California mansion (photos)

0

Three leaders of the social justice movement, Black Lives Matter secretly bought a swanky Southern California mansion for nearly $6 million using donation cash.

Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Melina Abdullah recorded a video last June outside the “secretly bought” home while marking the first anniversary of George Floyd’s murder, New York magazine reported.

Cullors at the time said she was weeks removed from being in “survival mode” after The Post’s exclusive reporting in April revealed her purchase of four high-end US homes for $3.2 million.

“It’s because we’re powerful, because we are winning,” Cullors said of what she characterized as right-wing media attacks. “It’s because we are threatening the establishment, we’re threatening white supremacy.”

But Cullors and her colleagues didn’t reveal any details on the upscale home seen behind them in the video, a 6,500-square-foot spread with more than six bedrooms and bathrooms, fireplaces, a pool, and parking for more than 20 cars, according to a real estate listing cited by the magazine.

The property was purchased in October 2020 with funds that had been donated to the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, according to the explosive report.

The seven-bedroom residence was purchased by a man named Dyane Pascall two weeks after BLMGNF received $66.5 million from its fiscal sponsor earlier that month. Pascall is the financial manager for Janaya and Patrisse Consulting, an LLC operated by Cullors and her spouse, Janaya Khan, New York Magazine reported.

Ownership was transferred within a week to an LLC in Delaware, ensuring the property’s owner wouldn’t be disclosed, according to the report.

Cullors, BLM’s co-founder, resigned in May as the group’s executive director amid criticism over buying three homes in the Los Angeles area and another outside Atlanta.

The purchase of the nearly $6 million home had not been previously reported and BLM officials tried to keep its existence a secret from a journalist looking into the transaction, according to the report.

The residence was purchased with the intention for it to serve as “housing and studio space” for recipients of the Black Joy Creators Fellowship, BLMGNF board member Shalomyah Bowers told the magazine in a statement Friday.

The foundation had “always planned” to disclose the home’s legal filings this May and it doesn’t serve as anyone’s personal residence, Bowers said.

But the statement did not spell out why little content has been produced there over some 17 months if it was in fact intended to be a creative space, according to the report.

One nonprofit organization expert said the sheer size of the buy might subject BLM to more criticism about its lackluster transparency.

“That’s a very legitimate critique,” Candid co-founder Jacob Harold told the outlet. “It’s not a critique that says what you’re doing is illegal or even unethical; it might just be strategic.”

Harold, who helped create a service that tracks US nonprofits, questioned whether the funds could’ve been better spent elsewhere.

“Why aren’t you spending it on policy or, you know, other strategies that an organization might take to address the core issues around Black Lives Matter?” Harold asked.

The property was acquired in “furtherance of BLM’s mission,” as well as for any ancillary usages as needed, Bowers said in a statement to The Post Monday.

“The organization always planned to disclose the property on the upcoming 990 due May 15th as part of BLMGNF’s ongoing transparency efforts,” Bowers’ statement continued. “BLMGNF has and continues to utilize the space for programming and leadership off-sites. The property does not serve as a personal residence.”

[LUCKY MULUSA STEPS DOWN AS MDC SG AFTER LEARNING THAT HE WAS ABOUT TO BE EXPELLED FROM THE PARTY

Movement for Democratic Change MDC Secretary General Lucky Mulusa has resigned from the party after learning he was set to be expelled from the party on Wednesday morning.

The MDC had called for a press briefing on Wednesday where Mr. Mulusa was supposed to be expelled but was tipped off by another party official hence his night resignation from the party.

Mr. Mulusa has recently been issuing statements to the effect that the UPND Alliance had veered off from the initial agreement with regards to sharing jobs was concerned.

Mr. Mulusa has also accused party president Felix Mutati of only representing himself and others while urging him to either resign from his government position or party position.

According to impeccable sources within Mr. Mulusa’s circle’s he claims he was promised a Cabinet Ministerial position by President Hakainde Hichilema prior to the 2021 August general elections.

However the source says Mr. Mulusa has been complaining that President Hichilema has not been picking his calls, somthing he has described as disrectifulness on the part o the president.

Lately Mr. Mulusa has been seen meeting PF members for a possible plot of how to destabilise both the alliance and the MDC.

The source further says the mission between the PF and Mr. Mulusa was simply to have Mr. Mutati fired and break up the alliance and use the MDC as a standby vehicle incase of PF damage after the June convention.

Mr. Mulusa has recently been seen frequenting sedonia a popular drinking place in the company of a named journalist running an online publication.

The former MDC SG claims he has enough political muscle to offset the UPND’S popularity in northwestern and has made it his number one priority.

In the coming days Mr. Mulusa is expected to make several political statements disparaging either government or Mr. Mutati as an individual or the MDC as a political party in an alliance with the UPND government .

He wrote…

Dear all,

This is to inform you all that I have with immediate effect stepped down as the MDC – SG.

I wish to thank all of you for the support rendered in my position.

I wish the MDC family all the best as you strive to achieve the noble objectives of the Party.

God Bless,

Lucky Mulusa

Changala has asked govt to change the currency as a way of dealing with people who have kept huge amounts of cash in their homes

CHANGE THE CURRENCY

By Ernest Chanda

GOOD governance activist Brebner Changala has asked government to change the currency as a way of dealing with people who have kept huge amounts of cash in their homes.

He says the “methodical approach has failed or is failing”.

“Because of pressure, certain ministers who were silent like Mtolo have decided to speak out because they have seen that their political tenure in office is now threatened. And they are trying to go and dig for money in people’s farms, seven months down the line, and the culprits are mocking them – repeatedly so,” Changala noted.

On Monday, The Mast carried a story where agriculture minister Reuben Mtolo said there was no money in the economy because people who stole under the PF administration were hiding it.

“If you notice, we have challenges with money. Where is the money? Those who were stealing the money in the past are hiding money. They fear that they could be arrested and because of the high fuel prices, the money is scarce,” said Mtolo.

And in supporting Mtolo’s concern, Changala said people proposed a change of currency immediately the PF lost elections in August 2021 but the new dawn government did not want to listen.

“And it is also good that one of the men from Cabinet, Mr Mtolo, has come to admit that there is no money because thieves from the previous administration have kept their money in houses and they are not spending. It also goes to show that this government does not listen to the citizenry,” he said.

“From the onset, in September there was a serious demand from the Zambians that this government must change the currency. They must go flat out and recover this cash which has been stashed somewhere because the PF administration was not banking money; it was not banking cash. And this has led to the shrinking of our financial sector.”

Changala praised Mtolo for speaking out when others were quiet on a serious national problem.

“If you realised, all banks that had opened their outlets throughout Lusaka, Copperbelt and provincial centres, have closed their branches because there is no liquidity. And there is no major financial activity in the economy,” he explained.

“It is highly gratifying, though disappointing, that the Cabinet through Mr Mtolo has acknowledged that there is no money in circulation. And this is the song we have been singing. We have encouraged this administration, knowing very well that the government is the biggest supplier of money in the economy through contracts and other services that are rendered by suppliers.”

Changala also blamed the government for freezing payments to all contractors who provided goods and service during the PF reign, calling it a careless decision.
He wondered why the UPND was not explaining its economic strategy.
“And to put a moratorium that nobody must be paid for as long as the contract was done under the previous administration has now backfired, resulting in the shortage of medicines in hospitals. And one would wonder how many Zambians died out of this careless decision by this administration?” he said.

“There is another serious challenge. This government has come into place but it has not explained to the people of Zambia what its economic strategy is to revive the economy. They have not told the people of Zambia what their strategy is on job creation. They have been talking about micro-economic and prudence…and most importantly they have told us that they are being methodical.”

Changala said there was nothing inspiring about UPND’s “methodical” approach to running the country.

“There is nothing inspiring in their methodical system other than promoting poverty levels and economic collapse. Their methodical approach has failed or is failing, whichever way you look at it,” said Changala.

“Because of pressure, certain ministers who were silent like Mtolo have decided to speak out because they have seen that their political tenure in office is now threatened. And they are trying to go and dig for money in people’s farms, seven months down the line, and the culprits are mocking them – repeatedly so.”

My Decision To Divorce Remains A Private Matter- Thabo Kawana

0

MY DECISION TO DIVORCE REMAINS A PRIVATE MATTER

DECISION TO MARRY OR DIVORCE IS A VERY JOYFUL AND PAINFUL PERSONAL MATTER RESPECTIVELY.

I have seen the frenzy in the media over our decision to go our separate ways with my partner, its doing rounds on social media after a seemingly dedicated search conducted at the High Court registry yesterday.

My phone too won’t stop ringing as countless people keep calling and sending messages espousing different emotions. Different in that words of encouragement coming from those in the know and shock from the many who knew nothing at all.

Ordinarily, such matters are private and personal and one needs not comment publicly but unfortunately, among the ramifications that come with public life and/office is that one loses their private life completely.

My only request to us all is that in this public ridicule, insults, aspersions and formed opinions, let them all be directed at me, I am the public figure. Let’s leave my partner and children out of this because they are private individuals whom I have endeavored to protect and not involve in my public life.

Yes it’s true, my partner and I have mutually decided to go our separate ways after realizing that our union was not working. We have stayed apart for over three years and as you may be aware, divorce is a final stop after several other interventions to retrieve the union prove futile. That is why at this stage, our differences are dubbed “iretrieveble”.

Many are asking me why, what happened? My answer is that we have decided to keep the reasons private and hoping pipo can respect our decision.

Others are asking is it because of your new job? The decision to go our separate ways was arrived at three years ago, way before my appointment. It’s sad that pipo think it’s because of my three months old appointment. The two are completely unrelated.

We as a people have seen couples where because it didn’t work and they tried to force themselves on each other and in the end, death has been recorded in such unions with one partner ending in the grave whilst the other ends up locked up for life if not sentenced to death. Ramifications? Children remain orphaned and suffering.

Again here, the public says “why didn’t they just divorce instead of killing”?

For us we chose to mutually separate, remain friends and co-parent our children hoping to give them the best of both worlds as parents alive than dead and incarcerated.

What we have before Court is a consent judgement, where two consenting adults have mutually agreed to go their separate ways in a peaceful, respectful and civil manner void of conflict, drama and GBV.

My appeal to both young and old couples is that divorce is never a good thing and/experience, where you can resolve matters, please do. Where you can’t, try again .

My prayer is that no other family goes through divorce because in divorce, nobody wins.

Please don’t and never resort to violence or killing. Life does and will always go on.

Thabo Kawana.

ECL has definitely crossed the red line

ECL has definitely crossed the red line

By Alfred Chioza

The material for building a bomb, jet engine, motor vehicle, scotch cart, rocket, grader (CAT) etc, is naturally chosen to undertake the task it’s intended for.

Wrong material will never resist the pressure, it will buckle under. Thus, the material chosen for various jobs/tasks must be able to withstand the stress and strain, period! Metallurgists will attest to this. Similarly, humans fit in this analogy. Leaders are born with the potential to lead, there’s absolutely no shortcut to this assertion. Take a misfit to lead, he or she will definitely mess up big time. Worse still, if he/she is surrounded by characters that fit his mold. Even those that have the potential to lead require to be surrounded by experts – and I mean experts with the expertise of discipline they are called to render advice on, not jokers. That’s how good and competent leadership is built. Pretenders to the throne are easily exposed by their careless pronouncements.
Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL) owes Zambians the explanation as to what he meant by labeling the new dawn government of Hakainde Hichilema (HH) as hypocritical. He also has arrears to elaborate how his government failed the Zambians. Is this how to reciprocate HH’s call to ECL to mourn RB together in a dignified manner and thereby give RB a befitting send off? Can ECL define hypocrisy to the Zambians? I hope ECL doesn’t suggest that when investigative wings summon or search those believed to have been deep in criminal activities to be hypocrisy? Then this mirrors the kind of ignorant leadership which Zambians put up with for seven solid years. Anyone with conscience would have done better! ECL has definitely crossed the red line. He failed to honour RB’s funeral. RB is gone, so is ECL’s insurance for safeguarding his immunity. Zambians are agitating for stripping his immunity. Lest ECL is delusional, he has to be reminded that he presided over the most corrupt government. It’s regrettable that people of his caliber could rig themselves into the presidency of Zambia.

The guff he made denigrated RB’s funeral, which up to the end was going very well like clockwork. Even street boys are wondering about the competence of his handlers (the mickey mice).

Social media went viral with the unguarded comments ECL uttered. He has been exposed as the most incompetent president Zambia has ever had. He decampaigned his legacy, if any. What’s the dictionary meaning of hypocrisy? Can he elaborate instead of speaking in tongues? Zambians haven’t forgotten that he is on record as saying, “we were voted out because we failed the Zambians.’’ How did he fail the Zambians? Honest people avoid double speech, especially when they seek forgiveness from the people who had given them the rare honour and mandate to become their president. It’s cardinal to own up and acquit oneself if there is indisputable evidence of wrongdoings.

HH offered ECL an olive branch over the feud these two have had. RB’s funeral had provided a rare opportunity for ECL to make up with the Zambian people – to tender a well-crafted apology for all the corruption that took place under his watch and seek forgiveness from them. PF leaders stole from us and ECL could even take the matter further by promising the return of monies and assets PF leaders are accused of stealing. Instead, he opted for confrontation!

Mind you, in as much as HH may drag his feet to have ECL prosecuted for all the crimes investigated so far and point to ECL, one must realise that ultimate court is reposed in the Zambians whose assets were stollen by ECL’s PF leaders, family members and cronies. Is this how you reciprocate HH’s genuine gesture of camaraderie? More so, at RB’s funeral? The man who would have lobbied for his soft landing!

PF leadership is smeared in corruption filth. Immunity can be stripped off any time. Don’t dare the Zambians and push your luck. I hope the former president’s handlers tirelessly give ECL updates about his tattered reputation. Only Zambians will have the last say regarding his survival. You don’t even show contrition and remorse over your seven years in office. Need I remind you that the noose is slowly tightening around your neck with every investigation of those who are currently helping with criminal investigations?

Most unfortunate that your handlers may not have prepared you for what to anticipate at RB’s funeral and how to handle the anticipation. They could have even advised you to dodge answering difficult questions – not even blocking Franklin Tembo jnr from asking you questions. You are the only surviving former president and deeply troubled. It’s true silence is golden instead of being confrontational. Will people be wrong to assume that you’re unrepentant and uncouth? Did you pay attention and read in between the line remarks by the former president of Botswana? What did you make of it?

ECL owed Zambians a hell lot of explanations and answers on many wrongdoings. Needless to put it straight that ECL’s support base is dwindling as people are fast realising that he miserably failed Zambians during his tenure as president of Zambia. Even your fanatical supporters are sticking with you purely for money! HH has outshone you with mature leadership style. Zambia is now a peaceful and livable country; investors will soon be queuing up to do business with the country. We thank God for this second liberation.

STATE WITNESSES CONTINUE GIVING INCOHERENT STATEMENTS IN KAMPYONGO’S AVIATION CASE

STATE WITNESSES CONTINUE GIVING INCOHERENT STATEMENTS IN KAMPYONGO’S AVIATION CASE

BY IP muvi tv
Chinsali Monday, 4 April, 2022

The Chinsali Magistrate Court has adjourned the case in which Former Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has been charged with an offence of endangering the safety of an aircraft to 26th April, 2022.

Particulars of the offense are that on January 2nd, 2015, Mr Kampyongo, whilst acting together with others, allegedly endangered the safety of an aircraft and its passengers at Kalalantekwe school grounds in Shiwang’andu district, in Muchinga province.

Mr. Kampyongo who is also Shiwanga’ndu Member of Parliament and six others are jointly charged with the offence of endangering the Safety of an Aircraft contrary to the Safety Aviation Act Chapter 445 of the laws of Zambia.
Others jointly charged with Mr. Kampyongo are Andrew Kampyongo, James Sunge Mulenga, Cephus Mwaba Matumbo, Phillip Sinkala, Ignius Musonda and Augustine Kapolyongo.

And one of Mr. Kampyongo’s lawyer George Chisanga says the state has indicated that they would be able to call their last two witnesses.

“We are yet to have the evidence of the Pilot as well as the officer who investigated this matter.
The difficult the State has been having is to secure the attendance before the court the Pilot who was flying the helicopter on that material date.
If possible they told us that if they cannot secure his physical attendance in court, they will use alternative platform to make him testify maybe via Zoom, Mr. Chisanga has said.

He says is hopeful that the State would be able to close the case on 26th April.

He adds that is concerned because the case is rather taking long stating everything was supposed to have finished in line with what the had earlier indicated but since the court has guided that it can not rush Justice it is just the matter waiting and hear what will come out of said witnesses it keeps on adding to the number of those who have their testimonies but is hoping the last witnesses will be on 26th April,”

However, during a cross examination the two state witnesses who includes John Mulenga a Teacher continued giving incoherent statement from the other seven witnesses who appeared before the court when the matter commenced.
The contradiction from the the statement witnesses after being quizzed by Mr. Kampyongo’s defence lawyers Leon Lemba and George Chisanga at the said cross examination triggered the laughter by the court attendees.

And at the close of the session the state pleaded with the Magistrate to have the matter adjourned to April 26th so that is could bring other witnesses, a move which was strongly opposed by the defence lawyers on ground that the state had previously made it clear that it was bringing it’s possible last set of witnesses for progress sake.
However, the Magistrate says he had understood the concerns from both parties and it was just wise to work in fair manner for the sake of justice.

But the Magistrate was quick to warn the state not to keep dragging the case through adjournments besides having the rights to do so.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kampyongo expressed confident that Justice will prevail by God’s grace.

He said it is the desire of the People of Shiwang’andu to have the process expedited in order for attention to shift to serving the people.

“Every time that is taken from the people, is injustice to the people We represent.

I am a citizen, but I also have an extra responsibility to serve the people who elected me on 12th August last year. We will however respect the court processes so that Justice can prevail, the law maker has said.
He says the Country is a very critical situation at the moment that needs to be resolved , such as fuel hike and reducing the cost of living the new dawn government talked about.

Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett, wishes hubby didn’t slap Chris Rock

0

Actress Jada Pinkett, wife of embattled Hollywood star, Will Smith, has revealed that she wished her husband did not slap Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars on Sunday, 27 March, Us Weekly reports.

Smith had slapped comedian and actor, Rock, during the Oscars, for making jokes about his wife, which was broadcast live around the world from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with about 2,500 attendees.

According to a source who spoke to the magazine, Pinkett and Smith are in agreement that he overreacted by slapping the comedian.

“It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting. He knows that, she knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted,” the source was quoted as saying.

Shortly after the incident, which had already sparked reactions around the world after a video of the slap was posted on social media platforms around the world, Smith won the most coveted prize of the night, Best Actor, for his role in the biopic, King Richard.

After the slap, Rock said, “Will Smith just smacked the s—t out of me.”

And as Smith returned to his seat beside his wife, he yelled back at the comedian to “keep my wife’s name out your f—king mouth.”

Rock had made jokes about Pinkett’s shaved head, which the actress had expressed her insecurities about after she revealed that she suffered from alopecia; a disease that causes bald spots on a person’s head.

After the slap, the Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences condemned the actor’s actions stating that it had launched a review into the incident and then apologised to Rock.

The source further stated that Pinkett, who has been married to Smith since 1997, did not feel that need to be protected from anyone, hence her husband did not have to slap Rock.

“She’s not one of these women that needs protecting. He didn’t need to do what he did, she didn’t need protecting. She’s not a wallflower.

“She’s a strong woman, an opinionated woman and she can fight her own battles. But she will stand by him,” the source stated.

Since the incident, the comedian has remained silent on the slap despite hosting shows, which saw a soar in ticket sales, in different cities across the US. However, Smith apologised to Rock for his actions on the night via his Instagram handle and condemned his own actions.

With speculations surrounding the Academy’s decision on the Best Actor award Smith won, the star resigned from his membership in the institution and stated that he would accept any further punishment it imposed on him.

British Prime Minister is expected to unveil plans to transport migrants to Rwanda to be processed under a hidden contract costing millions of dollars to the African country

0

Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, is expected to unveil plans to transport migrants to Rwanda to be processed under a “secretive pact worth millions” with the African country.

According to a government source, the Prime Minister has been informed that the preparations are not yet complete, despite his intention to reveal them last week in response to an increase in the number of migrants crossing the Channel.

Before the specifics of the Rwanda deal can be agreed, ministers are waiting for Priti Patel’s Nationality and Borders Bill, which would allow asylum seekers to be processed overseas, to pass through the House of Lords and receive royal assent, according to the Times.

The government will fly asylum seekers to Rwanda for processing while paying millions of pounds to the African country.

The House of Lords voted against the bill on Monday evening, prolonging the Parliamentary struggle over the flagship bill.

It comes as the total number of migrants crossing the Channel this year has surpassed 4,500. A total of 28,526 persons crossed the Channel in 2021, but that number is set to be surpassed this year.

Ministers are only authorized to allude to ‘country X’ during meetings, according to the arrangement, which has been branded as’secretive.’

Similar attempts to offshore migrants have been made in Ghana and Albania, but the ideas have failed, according to the research.

The bill, however, has been faced with opposition in the Commons, where Tory MP David Davis has proposed an amendment to repeal the restrictions.

The Bishop of Durham, the Rt Rev Paul Butler, spoke out against a measure that would allow asylum seekers to be sent to offshore processing centers similar to those used by Australia during the debate.

‘When individuals seek shelter on our beaches, we have a responsibility to treat them as we would like to be treated if we were forced to leave for our lives,’ he said.

‘I am quite concerned that if we relocate them to other countries for the processing of their asylum requests, a blind eye will be turned to their abuse.’

‘My main worry is the inhumanity of this section of the Bill. However, there are serious practical and economical difficulties.’

‘Campaigners argue it will cost less to put asylum seekers in the Ritz than to conduct an offshore strategy,’ said Labour frontbencher Lord Rosser.

‘However, evidence from other countries, like Australia, suggests that such a program would be expensive per person and ineffective.’

‘Asylum processing overseas is one aspect of a system-wide change aiming to undermine the business model of people smugglers and disincentivize unwelcome behavior,’ said Home Office minister Baroness Williams of Trafford.

Kim Jong-un’s powerful sister says North Korea will nuke South Korea if it violates ‘even an inch’ of its territory

0

Kim Yo-jong, the powerful sister of North Korea leader Kim Jong-Un has said that North Korea will nuke South Korea if it violates “even an inch” of its territory.

The threat was issued just after the secretive country ramped up its ballistic missile testing with nine launches so far this year.

State media quotes Kim as saying;

“If the South Korean army were to injure even an inch of our land, they would face a catastrophe that we had never imagined before.

“If a situation arises where South Korea chooses a military confrontation with us, it will inevitably force our nuclear warfare force to carry out its mission.

“This is not just a threat. This is a detailed explanation of our reaction to possible reckless military action by south Korea.”

Her outburst was prompted by comments from South Korea’s defence minister which said the country now has significantly improved missiles.

These now have “the ability to accurately and quickly hit any target in North Korea” said Suh Wook.

Yo-jong who’s a senior official in the government and ruling party, also said Suh’s comments were a “very big mistake”. She said Pyongyang opposes war, which would leave the peninsula in ruins, and does not view South Korea as its principal enemy.

She added;

“But if south Korea, for any reason – whether or not it is blinded by misjudgment – opts for such military action as ‘preemptive strike’ the situation will change.

“In that case, south Korea itself will become a target.

“The senseless and scum-like guy dare mention a ‘preemptive strike’ at a nuclear weapons state.

“South Korea may face a serious threat owing to the reckless remarks made by its defence minister.”

Yo-jong is seen as her brother’s closest confidant and has been confirmed as his top official for relations with the South.

North Korea has test-fired a range of increasingly powerful missiles this year. Officials in Seoul and Washington fear it may be preparing to resume testing nuclear weapons for the first time since 2017 amid stalled negotiations.

“I don’t see anything wrong with weed. It’s God-made” – Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel backs marijuana legalization

Ghanaian actor and preacher, Majid Michel has said weed is a God-made plant and there is nothing wrong with using the substance.

Speaking with Kent Mensah on Asaase radio, Majid called on the ghanaian Government to legalise and commercialise the use of weed in the country.

“I’ve done drugs before. I’ve indulged in drugs before. I’ve done hard drugs. I don’t mean weed. I don’t see anything wrong with weed, it was God-made. It was created by God,” he stated.

Recounting how he did hard drugs years ago, the actor stated that he never saw anyone who overdozed on weed.

“I’ve never heard of anybody who has overdosed on weed… I’ve done things out of weed. I’ve done cocaine and LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide)

“I’ve done other drugs that if I told you right now, you’ll not be able to pronounce. These were years back and I didn’t struggle to overcome it,” he said.

Majid however, advised persons below the age of 25 not to indulge in the use of the herb.

He recommended brewing and drinking weed as compared to the regular style of smoking.

“Maybe because of the smoke… maybe that’s why health-wise, it is advisable for people to brew and drink it because that is not wrong at all. You drink teas, don’t you,” he said.

Despite his support for the legalization of the substance, Majid Michel urged the ghanaian government to take full responsibility before taking such steps.

“I am for it completely but then again before anything is legalized, the government must make sure that they are ready to take responsibility and must exhaust the consequences that come true with the legalization of ‘weed’ before the decision is made,”

“Before the government decides to pass a law for the legalisation of weed then they must make sure that they have exhausted all possible avenues … by learning from countries who have done it,”

“If the government is not ready to take responsibility for the consequences [for legalising ‘weed’] then it shouldn’t take that decision.” he added.

HH Is Chilling At His Hotel While Government Foots The Bill- Bowman Lusambo

By Hon. Bowman Lusambo
CHILLING AT YOUR OWN HOTEL WHILE GOVERNMENT FOOTS THE BILL

Against convention, President Hakainde Hichilema has decided to host his guest President Paul Kagame of Rwanda at a private hotel in Livingstone for two days.

Tradition has always been that visiting Heads of State would meet the host (our President) at State House for formal bilateral engagements, dinner will be hosted at a 5 start hotel within Lusaka and if the programme permits, squeeze in an in-out trip to Livingstone for tourism promotional purposes. This arrangement has worked for decades and delivered results at a cheaper cost to the treasury until President Hichilema decided to host President Kagame for a whole two days away from Lusaka.

277745372_526164132308818_376726275983352002_n

If this arrangement was held elsewhere even on the Moon, we wouldn’t have raised questions but hosting this very important meeting at a private hotel in which we believe Mr. Hichilema still has very strong business interests raises serous questions bordering on conflict of interest, morality and poor decision making on the part of Mr. Hichilema and all those helping him govern.

It is public knowledge that Mr. Hichilema and his business associate Chief Mukuni still have huge business interests in that facility.

As for Mr. Hichilema, we know he has never publicly relinquished his business interests in that hotel in which he irregularly became a Director after he worked as ZPA Negotiating Chairman for the sale of the hotel around July 1997.

Mr. Hichilema as Negotiating Chairman incorporated Sun International Zambia Limited on 18th November 1997 and in March 1998, he sold the hotel to a company that he had incorporated and in which he was a Director.

We know that the ownership structure of the hotel has changed over time but what has remained constant is Mr. Hichilema and Chief Mukuni’s stake in the hotel.

As recent as 2021, PACRA records showed that Avani Hotel is owned by Minor Hotels Zambia Limited, this company is in turn owned by a Mauritius company MHG International Holding while Hakainde S. Hichilema is just a Director.

Ever wondered why despite his anti corruption rhetoric, this is a man who has refused to declare his assets and liabilities? He goes on to tell you that he has not received a salary for 8 months as President, well, he knows that he is using the same office to cut deals and pay himself heftily.

There was absolutely no need to converge in Livingstone for a whole two days just to sign seven agreements at huge government expense.

We know that the pandemic has hit hotels badly as there is little or no international travel but using state coffers to give yourself some private business is beyond immoral.

For those that might not be aware, moving the presidency to another town for even a few hours is very expensive but when you do it for a whole three days, the cost to a bleeding treasury is colossal. We also know that some officers in advance parties have been stationed in Livingstone for over a week preparing for the trip and getting daily allowances which could never have been paid if the meeting was held in Lusaka at State House.

When you host a Head of State in the manner President Kagame is visiting, you take up the entire costs associated with the trip.

Lusaka, our capital city and especially State House has necessary security apparatus needed to secure the lives and property of visiting VVIPs.

By hosting President Kagame, a highly security conscious individual, the security upgrades that required modifications at Avani Hotels in order to host two Heads of State for over 48 Hours is unimaginable.

For a man who claims to have inherited empty coffers, President Hichilema has strange appetite to spend money he claims he nation doesn’t have.

Going forward, we wish to appeal to everyone working closely with President Hichilema to advise him against mixing state affairs with his private businesses. When something similar happened to President Trump in his first few months in office, the American Congress moved to stop him from hosting state functions at Trump Towers, his private hotel and he heeded, we pray our does.

PF HAS AN EVIL PLAN TO OVERTHROW UPND TO HIDE THEIR CRIMES

CHAMA SAYS PF SCHEMING A COUP D’ETAT ON THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT

United Party for National Development Party (UPND) supporter based in the United Kingdom Barbara Musamba Chama has accused the Patriotic Front (PF) of planning to overthrow the UPND led Government using local and foreign soldiers.

In videos that have gone viral on social media, Ms Chama said that intelligence information submitted to State House indicate that there is an advanced plan by PF to overthrow President Hakainde Hichilema’s Government.

She said PF is using people like Valden Findlay now based in South Africa to organise soldiers to overthrow the legitimate and democratically elected Government of President Hichilema.

According to Ms Chama, the plan to overthrow President Hichilema was supposed to be operationalised in March using local and South African soldiers.

She also revealed that there is a sealed resolution by PF members to poison President Hichilema.

Reports also indicate that a few mouths ago one of President Hichilema’s official vehicles was tempered with by a security personnel in the system in order to cause a lethal accident, a scheme that was thwarted by intelligence agencies before President Hichilema used the vehicle. The scheme was to cause a deadly accident and make it appear as if it was a mere accident.

Ms Chama has appealed to UPND members across the country to wake up from political slumber because PF made a resolution a long time ago to eliminate President Hichilema at all costs.

In her videos on Facebook, Ms Chama put it clearly how PF is planning to overthrow President Hichilema’s Government or poison him.

According to a reliable source, many people including fake prophets have been paid to prepare people’s minds by bombarding citizens with messages of an imminent presidential election because PF members know how advanced their ploy is of wanting to eliminate President Hichilema.

Another source said that it is easy for the UPND Government to be overthrown because most of the critical positions in government are still held by hardcore PF members.

Just a few days ago the Mast Newspaper reported an open rebellion by some soldiers against the sitting government.

Until the system is cleansed, anything is possible and President Hichilema may really be a one term President; overthrowned or killed.

The UPND led Government’s failure to cleanse the system has made it hundredfold difficult for itself to govern the country and susceptible to a coup d’etat.

Shaka once said, never leave an enemy behind or it will rise again to fly at your throat.

The UPND Government has a long way to learn African politics – where those that win elections govern.

NOTHING SINISTER ABOUT US SUMMONING EX BOZ CHIEF MVUNGA, SAYS POLICE

NOTHING SINISTER ABOUT US SUMMONING EX BOZ CHIEF MVUNGA, SAYS POLICE

By NATION REPORTER

THERE is nothing sinister about the police summoning former Bank of Zambia Governor Christopher Mvunga for interviews, police spokesperson Rae Haamonga has said.

Mr Haamonga said the police had summoned the former central bank Governor to appear at Chongwe police post and that they just wanted to interview him about certain issues.

But his lawyer Dickson Jere said that the matter had been resolved and nothing to do with his previous office.

Mr Jere said it was a small misunderstanding with a neighbour which actually happened in 2019 and they engaged the police and agreed there was no need for appearance at the police today.

He said the matter was of civil nature as it had to do with pollution and that he was the complainant but was later accused of trespassing.

“This issue does not involve his previous line of work but just a civil matter that involves his neighbor,” he said.

He however said he could not give details on what issues Mr Mvunga was summoned for as it would jeopardise investigations.

“Yes, I can confirm that the police has summoned Mr Mvunga to appear at Chongwe Police post in the morning but unfortunately I can’t give you the details,” he said.

Meanwhile, Economic Front President Wynter Kabimba said that it was clear that Mr Mvunga’s summon was because he was a close associate of former republican president Edgar Lungu.

Mr Kabimba said it was evident that the fact that Mr Mvunga worked in the previous Patriotic Front regime and occupied a key position, it was only right to assume that it was a political move.

He said that time had gone for governments to be persecuting individuals based on political lines and that this trend needed to stop once and for all.

“I saw the summon but to be honest I don’t want to delve much in the matter but I strongly suspect the reason Mr Mvunga has been summoned is because he was a close associate of the former president Edgar Lungu,” he said.

Mr Kabimba said all the people who had been summoned or searched had direct links with the former head of State and that it was not shocking that the list of close associates to Mr Lungu had continued to increase

DID you know that the late Princess Nakatindi Wina would physically fight other women in order to secure her marriage with Sikota Wina?

Fun Fact

DID you know that the late Princess Nakatindi Wina would physically fight other women in order to secure her marriage with Sikota Wina?

(Sikota Wina was highly sought after by women from all races)

For details, follow the excerpt below from (Conversations with Memorable Personalities)

Amos Malupenga:

How did Dr. [Kenneth] Kaunda take your marriage with Honourable Wina?

Princess Nakatindi Wina:

He was very happy. Dr. Kaunda is my father. He advised Sikota that, ‘look Sikota, you are now settled’ meaning that you are married to a Princess, an African like you. I mean Kaunda was not a racist but in all fairness, he wouldn’t have liked Sikota to marry a white woman or a negro. So he was happy that Sikota married me, the daughter to Kaunda’s workmate, the late chieftainess Nakatindi.

And it was really a hard battle to get Sikota because Sikota was highly sought after on the market. He was highly demanded by women – coloured, white, black, Indians. [Mr Wina, who was listening in into the interview about two metres away, just smiled as Nakatindi said this].

And when I came back from England, I really scattered them [women] all. I really fought for my marriage. If it were now Sikota could have died of AIDS but then there was no AIDS and I thank God he is alive and I look after him very well.

And we keep testing each other not that we don’t trust each other but you never know with human beings. But I am very happy with him and I have settled down, anyway.

From the UNIP cowboy, which they used to call him, other people misconstrued that when he was UNIP cowboy he could just play around with women like that. But I tell him that ‘you are now a cowman. You have grown so stop being a cowboy’.

And he enjoys it being cowman with grandchildren. You should put that in, I like it.

Amos Malupenga:

But just how did you manage to scamper these women from Honourable Sikota Wina because I heard that despite the fact that women were very much after him, he was also in that business – a playboy, so to say?

Princess Nakatindi:

Oh, I had to use a tough road. I was very tough. I used to beat a lot of women. I was a physical fighter. I could grab a girl here and there and they used to fear. And I used to fight with Sikota; physically I could fight with him.

So he realised that this is not the type of woman to play with. I told him that if you continue moving around with these funny girls, I might maim you for good. I might even damage your eye.

He is also a human being and realised that this is not the type of woman to play with. But he loved me actually. And when we started having children I think he realised, it was no more time to play cowboy tactics.

Amos Malupenga:

My next question will be for you to explain how you have managed to be so close to each other. From the time I knew you some years back I think I have never seen you apart save for the period you were incarcerated on that trumped-up treason charge. And I was going to ask: just what makes the two of you inseparable, does that cowboy background contribute or it is just something you have learnt to do?

Princess Nakatindi:

We come from the same background, more or less. But this has nothing to do with being jealousy anymore. I used to be very jealousy. Now we have begun to understand each other.

Sikota is my best friend. I have no female friend. I have a lot of acquaintances, female ones, having something in common with them. The only place I don’t take him to is the kitchen party. But any other place we go together. We go hunting together if he wants to go bird hunting, we go picnicking together, we go dancing together, we go mourning together, we go to church together.

We are not very serious churchgoers but sometimes we go to church. Sikota has become my friend. We have become so inseparable that each one of us needs the other. We cannot do without one another.

Our mannerisms and habits are the same, we come from the same background – Sikota’s father was my grandfather’s prime minister. When my grandfather was King, Sikota’s father was a prime minister.
And he realises that as a Prince Consort, he has to be next to me, not that it is mandatory but there are times when he thinks we have to be together.

And one good thing about Sikota is that he is not a miser. He doesn’t even like money. When I was in jail, he was in trouble because he didn’t know what five kwacha looked like. So he learnt how to count money when I was in jail. This is the type of husband I have. I am really lucky, actually. He has grown to be so nice. He is not the type that would hide his salary from me or use it on other extra things, no.

He would come and say here it is, let us budget. So I would say Sikota and I are one. Even when I go for hair dressing and I overstay, you will see that Sikota will follow me with the driver and say ‘are you still doing your hair dressing or what?’ I would just say ‘join me if you also want your hair to be done’. And even the hairdresser would ask that what type of a man is this?

If he is not with me then he is reading. He is a great reader. At one time I told him either you marry your books or me because sometimes you could be talking to him and he would just be saying yes, yes. And I told him those are bad manners. So he is really a bookworm, he reads a lot. If you visit my toilet, you will find that there is a library in the toilet.

DID you know that Justin Mweene, an ordinary Zambian, registered UPND as a party with the Registrar of Societies in 1998

FACT FILE:

DID you know that Justin Mweene, an ordinary Zambian, registered UPND as a party with the Registrar of Societies in 1998 and was its leader for two weeks before handing power to Anderson Mazoka?

For details, follow the excerpt below from

(Conversations with Memorable Personalities)*

Amos Malupenga:

You can continue…

Anderson Mazoka:

… I came to Lusaka as managing director and after serving Anglo for all these years, I went to my boss in 1998 and I said ‘I want to work for my people’.

Anglo said ‘no, why do you want to leave? Are you under pressure from your contemporaries?’ I said it was my own choice. They said ‘if you are under pressure, we are going to transfer you to another country’. I said there will be a conflict because I can’t work for Anglo and at the same time be in politics.

We agreed with my boss and they gave me my terminal benefits.

And you know the formation of UPND. We started meeting here [at his residence in Lusaka East] with some people. I had spent a lot of time advising MMD. I said ‘this is not what we fought for to get rid of Kaunda’. I said ‘we need to look after our country’.

I came to a point where MMD was developing thick skin, they didn’t want to listen to people. So I said the only way is for me to join in their ranks. I wanted to join MMD as a party official. But they blocked me when I attempted to stand as treasurer in Bauleni compound at a ward level. I appealed to them to re-run the election but they refused.

Finally, I sent them a letter that I am resigning from the party and [Michael] Sata was the first one to take the letter to the newspapers that he had accepted my resignation. In fact, they would have cornered me if at that point they had reinstated the election and I was elected at the branch level. They would have closed me there and use party rules to control me. But when they decided to accept my resignation, I said hallelujah! Then I met some of my colleagues – John Mulwila, David Matongo, the late Munansangu and Kelvin Ndila was there.

I said ‘we have to form a party’, so we formed a committee and that committee was to look for the name of the party and the symbol. They also looked for the slogan and we kept consulting. Then rumours started moving so we had to give a dummy name which you guys picked and said ‘we were going to register such and such a party’.

In the meantime, we got ordinary people like Justin Mweene to register UPND. They agreed that after 14 days, they would hand-over the party to me, which they did. We then launched the party at Mulungushi Conference Centre and we announced the names of people in the management committee. …

Reuben Mtolo says there is no money in circulation because people who stole are hiding the money

WHERE IS THE MONEY – MTOLO

By Christopher Miti

AGRICULTURE minister Reuben Mtolo says there is no money in circulation because people who stole are hiding the money.
“If you notice, we have challenges with money. Where is the money? Those who were stealing the money in the past are hiding money. They fear that they could be arrested and because of the high fuel prices, the money is scarce,” he said
Mtolo, who is also Chipata Central member of parliament, says he will not hesitate to report people who are handling Constituency Development Fund to police if they engage in corruption.

Featuring on Breeze FM on Saturday night, Mtolo said CDF is meant to help people and should not be tampered with.
“For me as MP, I have grown up here. My businesses are here. I want Chipata to be strong. I was very categorical today during the CDF meeting that if I am going to hear that there is corruption in the handling of the CDF, I will not hesitate to drag the people involved to police. This man, Mr Daka (CDF chairperson) is my friend but if he is going to engage in corruption, I will have him arrested. I will not hesitate and I have continuously said this,” he said.
Mtolo said in 2011 when he was MP, he made one person arrested.

“In 2011, I said the same and people thought I was joking. One man is still serving at Namuseche. He stole something at Saturday Market and that is how it will be. The other thing is that, I am washing my hands here, a person who would want to go that route in the government of President Hakainde Hichilema, I stay with him every day in Lusaka, he is on his own or her own,” he warned. “That man [Hichilema] hates corruption. that man is committed to developing the country and this money which has come does not belong to an individual but for development through central government. Anyone who will steal CDF money will be arrested and will have nowhere to appeal.”

Mtolo said the warning does not only go to the CDF committee but to council officers and suppliers.
“This is a very strong warning to my friends in the CDF [committee], the council officials and the suppliers, the owners of shops, hardware owners, that if you are going to get yourself involved in inflating prices you will be in trouble,” he said.
And in emphasizing the need for the CDF committee to purchase locally made desks, Mtolo said the CDF should circulate within the constituency.

“If the CDF chairperson wants to buy school desks, he is not allowed to buy desks that are made from Indonesia. The desks should be made by residents of Chipata who have made them in Chipata for use in Chipata. These desks should not be bought from anywhere other than Chipata. This money is meant for Chipata. We want it to circulate in Chipata Central,” he explained. “If you notice, we have challenges with money. Where is the money? Those who were stealing the money in the past are hiding money. They fear that they could be arrested and because of the high fuel prices, the money is scarce.”
Mtolo said the government is pumping money into the system through the Constituency Development Fund.
He urged Zambians to develop an attitude of voicing out whenever things are not alright.

Mtolo said when public money is being abused people should take it upon themselves to report.
“The new thinking is that when public money is abused, you cannot leave it to me to report or follow up but every citizen should make a follow up and report to the relevant authorities. If your money is being abused, don’t wait for Mtolo to report to Anti-Corruption [Commission] or to report to police,” he urged. “You all have a right. This is your money. This is the money which comes from taxes. President Hakainde Hichilema didn’t bring a bag of money. It is your money. President Hakainde is just saying instead of planning from Lusaka, let the money be planned in the constituencies. Let us develop an attitude in Zambia where if things are not going well, we should be talking.”

And Mtolo said he wants to be a minister of development in agriculture and not minister of fertiliser only.
“I don’t want that after five years, when I look back at what I did, I should just be talking about fertiliser. I want to be Minister of Agriculture in totality. I want to be minister who will develop farm blocks. I want to be a minister who would have promoted irrigation. I want to improve on extension and I also want to be Minister of Agriculture who will bring processing,” said Mtolo.

UKRAINE WAR: BIDEN CALLS FOR PUTIN TO FACE WAR CRIMES TRIAL AFTER BUCHA KILLINGS

UKRAINE WAR: BIDEN CALLS FOR PUTIN TO FACE WAR CRIMES TRIAL AFTER BUCHA KILLINGS

US President Joe Biden has called for Russian President Vladimir Putin to be tried for war crimes as evidence emerges of atrocities allegedly committed by Russian forces in Ukraine.

There is mounting international anger over the alleged killing of civilians in Bucha, a town near the capital Kyiv.

“This guy is brutal,” Mr Biden said of the Russian leader, adding that he believes Mr Putin “is a war criminal”.

Without evidence, Russia said images of atrocities had been staged by Ukraine.

US officials say they are supporting a team of international prosecutors heading to Bucha to collect evidence.

The Ukrainian government has started a war crimes investigation after it said the bodies of 410 civilians had been found in areas around Kyiv. Some were discovered in mass graves while others had their hands tied and had apparently been shot at close range.

Officials in Kyiv also accused Russian forces of killing a village head, her husband and her son in the village of Motoyzhyn for aiding Ukrainian troops in the area.

“You may remember I got criticised for calling Putin a war criminal,” Mr Biden said. “You saw what happened in Bucha – he is a war criminal… but we have to gather all the detail so this can have a war crimes trial.”

Mr Biden said the Bucha discovery was “outrageous” and said that it is important Mr Putin is “held accountable” for atrocities committed by his military Ukraine.

He added that he intends to seek to impose further sanctions on Russia.

Mr Biden’s intervention follows the publication of new satellite photos by the earth observation company Maxar, which showed bodies lining Bucha’s streets during its occupation by Russian forces.

An analysis of the photos by the New York Times showed at least 11 bodies on the streets on 11 March, when Russia occupied the city.

The US state department said it had credible reports of rape, torture and summary executions carried out by Russian forces as part of what it described as a “broader, troubling campaign” by Moscow.

At the request of Ukraine, the international prosecutors will support the prosecutor general of Ukraine’s war crimes unit.

“There are reports and images of a nightmare litany of atrocities,” said state department spokesman Ned Price.

The Pentagon said it was “fairly obvious” that Russia had been behind the atrocities in Bucha, but that more investigation was needed to ascertain which units were responsible.

ON THE ZAMBIA-RWANDA BILATERAL RELATIONS

0

By Gregory Chisha

Fellow Citizens, I am indeed upbeat by the very encouraging growth in relations between Rwanda and Zambia, which is also positively impacting on trade value and social interactions between the two peoples.

It’s good to see the two Excellencies, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and Mr. Paul Kagame, trying to strengthen the existing cordial relations and regional integration more further.
Diplomatically and economically, Zambia and Rwanda have a common ground.

For example, both countries are members of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), a free trade area with nineteen member states stretching from Libya to Swaziland.

“In COMESA, the two countries are connected by the desire to foster greater trade in the region, and ultimately across Africa”.

Both countries are also members of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, which, Kagame said, brings us together to foster peace and security, so that our people can achieve their ambitions.

Zambia and Rwanda are also united by their commitment to building a stronger and more efficient African Union, able to deliver quality services, to the citizens of this continent. This is a continuation of Africa’s liberation, and all of us are stakeholders, in working towards this goal”.

Fellow Zambians, we as a country and indeed the African continent must thrive to cultivate our own African solutions to address the common problems we face as Africans.
Sadly, Africa continues to receive the worst perception globally and that it is up to us as Africans to set the records straight.

It is entirely up to us as, Zambians/Africans to rise to the occasion and do all we can to address immediate challenges which confront our people and our continent Africa.”
“We can no longer solely look for solutions to our own problems elsewhere. No!!!!

Zambia and indeed the entire African continent is heavily endowed with diversity of resources, ranging from human, mineral and natural resources, which when properly harnessed, can undoubtedly provide the much needed solutions to the continents problems.”

For instance, Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir, has regular flights to Lusaka. We as Zambia can take advantage of this opportunity, to increase visits and do more business.”
Further, Zambia can learn from Rwanda’s success in the sector of Information and Communication Technology(ICT) among other sectors.

The only way we can develop as Zambia and Africa is by creating our own solutions to address the problems, nothing else.

May God bless the people of Zambia 🇿🇲🇿🇲, and Rwanda 🇷🇼🇷🇼

Life is becoming very difficult, notes Fr Phiri

0

By Christopher Miti

CHIPATA Diocese priest Mathias Mchona Phiri says the difficult life situation that is currently obtaining is not a justification for people to become unfair to one another.

In his sermon during mass at St Atanazio Parish, Fr Phiri, who is also a chaplain at Chipata Central Hospital, said people should continue doing works of mercy during this Lenten season.

“Surely, life is becoming very difficult. Some of the difficulties we face are because of the economic hardships,” he noted. “[But] these are not a justification that we should become dangerous and unfair to others. It is not a justification that because you are going through hardships that you start judging everybody.”

Fr Phiri said some people would hike the prices of various commodities without any justification because of the increase in fuel prices.

“People are going to hike prices without justice and without mercy in the name of upwards adjustment of fuel thereby making it difficult for people to get help,” he said. “It is not good for people to be unjust to other people because of high fuel prices. The price of bread will go high and the prices of food will become very expensive. Why? Is that mercy?”
Fr Phiri said people should judge themselves before they judge others.

“Think about it, what am I going to do to help other people to survive, to persevere and to pull through? People spend sleepless nights to think about what they would do the following day,” he said.

Fr Phiri, who narrated the biblical story of a woman who was taken to Jesus after she was caught committing adultery and Jesus told anyone who has never sinned to cast a stone at the woman but they all disappeared, also said there was moral failure in society because some people do not receive fair justice.

“Jesus is saying look into your heart, look into yourself, not the other one to judge you. I am not here to judge others. I am equally imperfect. Human judgment is full of error,” he said. “Now, in this story of a woman who are you? Are you the lady, do you feel equally mistreated by society? Do you feel equally condemned now and then by society?”
Fr Phiri said there was capital punishment for people who commit certain offences but wondered whether human beings have a right to judge others.

HH should speak- Changala

By Ernest Chanda

BREBNER Changala has urged President Hakainde Hichilema to engage the media constantly as he used to do in opposition.

In an interview, Changala, a good governance activist, observed that President Hichilema has since “abandoned the commitment to inform the nation whatever is going on around the country”.

“I want to register my serious concern on the UPND Alliance, but most importantly our President Mr Hakainde Hichilema. We do realise as some of his colleagues and allies that he has not initiated any meaningful change that can insulate him from not falling in the same trap like his predecessor,” he said. “We realise that when he came into office, the first month was brilliant and highly celebrated because he communicated very well with the nation through the media. At every turn of his activity, he informed the nation. Carrying forward, the man has disappeared below the media radar. He cannot interact with the media other than at swearing-in ceremonies and the airport, which is the very behaviour and conduct of the previous president [Edgar Lungu]. He has abandoned the commitment to inform the nation whatever is going on around the country.’’

Changala cited several activities President Hichilema has undertaken which he needed to explain to the nation through the media.

“Six months down the line, this President has gone out of the country more than 11 times. But he has not found time and space to tour the country which is going through a drought that might create food shortage. He has not gone round or indeed speak to the nation to give them hope on the current economic challenges,” he observed. “He has not taken time to explain to the people of Zambia the long-term benefits of the removal of subsidies. He has not taken time to reassure and give energised hope to the youth who gave him the mandate to govern this country as to what timeframe will it take to accommodate them and have either reemployment, tertiary, apprenticeship, or indeed the famous empowerment programme.”

Changala said President Hichilema has shunned people who voted for him.

Changala noted that even if President Hichilema knew what he was doing, he still needed to explain to the nation regularly.

“In short, he has not been very active to engage the very people that elected him. I know he must have been exhausted by the long period that he stayed in the opposition. But also, I know he might have decided to work quietly, thinking that he knows what he’s doing is good for the country. Politics and governance does not work like that,” he said. “Politics and governance is anchored on constant communication with the governed. Any shortcut to that effect will invite the people to start issuing statements on his behalf; even statements that are incorrect. And that’s where they come and start creating unnecessary by-laws in order to fix those who speak for the government when the government cannot speak for itself because human life is dynamic.”

Changala has since encouraged President Hichilema to constantly engage the nation.

“I also invite him to engage the nation from time to time through press briefings so as to move in tandem with the people of Zambia as they suffer consequences of many economic reforms that he has energized; some of them without their consent,” said Changala. “He must also engage his own party structures. Those who supported him, those who lived with him for the last 16 years in the opposition. Those he has promised a better future, and yet there’s no constant reminder that the future of milk and honey is indeed within reach. He must not feel comfortable by being quiet and doing things because he knows it and yet the people who are supposed to benefit know nothing.”

HH IS A ONE TERM PRESIDENT SAYS TAYALI

…as he pledges to work with the Patriotic Front in offering checks and balances.

LUSAKA, Monday, April 4, 2022 (SMART EAGLES)

ECONOMIC and Equity Party (EEP) president Chilufya Tayali has charged that President Hakainde Hichilema has been a disaster in his bid to improve the economy.

Speaking during a media briefing today, Mr Tayali said President Hichilema has made things far worse than he found them.

He said there is no economic indicator under the New Dawn Administration which shows that things will get better.

He said the price of commodities have skyrocketed contrary to his promises.

“President Hakainde Hichilema must apologise to the people for making things worse than he found them. There is nothing you can talk about that which you can say that things are getting better. The price of commodities have increased by more than 50%. This is against what he used to promise” he said.

He said the UPND Administration is killing the private sector.

He said there has been a shortage of medical drugs in Hospitals because the Government has branded companies that supplied drugs to the Patriotic Front Government as cadres and corrupt.

“We are having shortages of medicine because the new dawn have branded all those who were supplying medicine as corrupt. Medicine is not something you can supply like timber. It is supposed to be supplied by experts who are certified.

“These people are killing the private sector. How are they doing it, they labelled those who did business with the PF Government as corrupt. They have embraced foreigners and they have been paying foreigners whilst they do NOT want pay Zambians. We have people who supplied things to the enforcement agencies, they have not been paid because they have been called cadres and corrupt,” he said.

Mr Tayali has also advised the UPND to stop using the inflation rate as a benchmark to an improvement in the economy.

“The inflation has gone down because people cannot afford. People have no money, so you cannot expect inflation to go up because people are suffering. The New Dawn cannot understand because they are eating,” he said.

Mr Tayali is also of the view that the UPND Government should stop using the Ukraine-Russia war to justify fuel increments.

He said even when there is war, government should come up with policies that cushion the lives of people.

The EEP leader has called on Zambians to forgo any form of expectation in the much sought IMF program as it is bound to fail.

He announced that owing to the economic hardship Zambians will be subjected to under the UPND Administration, “Mr Hichilema will be a one term President.”

With regards to employment opportunities, Mr Tayali said the current Government does not know how to create employment.

“Employment in the public sector is not employment because you are overstretching your Government with expenses. You need to create employment outside Government. As it stands, the UPND has neglected the private sector,” he said

Meanwhile, Mr Tayali has urged the President to avoid generalising the fight against corruption. He said the Head of State should be able to substantiate statements made in Public.

And Mr Tayali has also rendered an apology to PF Acting President Given Lubinda over his transgressions in the past and pledged to work with the former ruling party in offering checks and balances.

I’M MY OWN MAN’, SAYS DANTE SAUNDERS

… and I’ll not get orders from State House, says Saunders

By ADRIAN MWANZA

I’LL not get orders from State House when conducting my duties as a board member of ZNBC because my role is to ensure that I make the organisation viable, says Dante Saunders

Mr Saunders, whose appointment was questioned on grounds that he did not have the right qualifications and was old said the move was meant to discredit him by the opposition because they felt he belonged to the ruling party.

He said that most MPs felt he had a vendetta against them and that he did not expect them to support his appointment.

Mr Saunders however said the MPs were right to question his qualifications because there were a number of people who did not know about him hence the worry.

Mr Saunders said that he was aware that his age was catching up but that he was up to the task and would ensure that he made ZNBC viable.

He said he never begged or lobbied for the job but that it was actions and contributions that made the appointing authority notice his hard work.

Mr Saunders said he would not let the Zambians down by being partisan or unjust in the course of duty but that he’ll ensure that he remains steadfast.

“I’m not shocked that the MPs questioned my qualifications but I can assure you that I’m ready for this and my contributions will be very immense and will be appreciated afterwards,” he said.

Mr Saunders said there was need to judge him for his past works as he had done a lot for the country and that he was sure of adding more value.

He said that he was contemplating on retiring but that he would not do so because he was given a mandate to save the people.

Mr Saunders said he did not habour any grudges against those who were criticisng him for his age and that he would prove them wrong with his actions.

He said people should not write him off because of his qualifications and age but that he had vast business experience which could come in handy.

How much does Bally want to fix Zambians?

How much does Bally want to fix Zambians?

It’s becoming dim for Zambians.

The Hope and Help they voted for is proving to be extremely chaotic, if not clueless! From the confidence he exuded upon being sworn in, Hakainde Hichilema has unfortunately – so far – delivered more pain and disappointment than the hoped for change for the better.

He has even defied Napoleon Bonaparte’s advice that, “A leader is a dealer in hope”. The hope Hakainde preached about has evaporated before his own eyes and citizens are back in the wilderness! Instead of fixing the economy as he promised, Hakainde has been busy fixing the same people who made him President. And he doesn’t seem to care about their feelings about his harsh economic policies! He seems to be reading from a foreign crafted script, administering prescriptions tailored for an alien economy. How this International Monetary Fund (IMF) script he holds in his hand affects Zambians, Hakainde doesn’t care. In Biblical terms, he has become a Saul whose leadership brought misery upon the Israelites. He is certainly not David whose leadership elevated the poor in Israel!

On Thursday, the UPND government increased fuel pump prices from K21 to almost K27. They have pointed to the Russia/Ukraine conflict – justifiably so – as a reason for this fuel hike. Apparently, the new dawn seems to have a multipurpose warehouse full of excuses for their inability to deliver on any of their grand promises anchored on the Bally Will Fix It slogan which they crafted ahead of the 2021 general elections.

But this government was not ushered into office to be on honeymoon! And they cannot carry on operating with a manual of excuses and finger pointing.

As John Maxwell puts it, “The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.”

Hakainde and his cronies must wake up and promulgate policies that will cushion our people from the adversities of the Ukraine war and other global uncertainties. That’s what leadership entails. After all the primary role of government – any government – is to protect its citizens.

Is the new dawn regime protecting Zambians?

Instead what we are getting from the methodical headquarters, State House, is that Zambians must be resilient. Resilient? Yes, Zambians have always been resilient. Ask UNIP, MMD and PF. And Zambians are highly resilient in their firm resolve to rid themselves of chaotic, corrupt, inept and uncaring governments. At the rate the UPND is mishandling socio-economic matters against their own myriad promises, they’ll be out of State House faster than they occupied it. Maybe this is the reason Hakainde himself does not want to shift from his Community House! Time alone will tell!

Arnold Glasow teaches that, “One of the tests of leadership is the ability to recognise a problem before it becomes an emergency.”

So far, what we are seeing is that Hakainde and his people were not ready to govern. If they were, they would have implemented their own manifesto instead of being impulsive and following the wind. They have become a proper chipantepante government. As things stand, we do not know what economic policies UPND is pursuing and what they intend to achieve. Anyway, Zambians are very patient people who have no time to listen to political or economic rhetoric. The only time they have is to cast their vote. Even if there may not be a strong opposition in 2026, Zambians could create one; the same way they imposed leadership on the UPND to punish PF on August 12. If UPND want a second term of office, let them stop pushing Zambians to the grave through their harsh decisions. People can only be pushed to a certain limit, after that, they react!

Iran has been petitioned by FIFA to be kicked out of the World Cup for prohibiting female spectators

0

Over the Islamic republic’s recent ban on women watching international soccer matches, FIFA is facing calls to fine Iran and also to exclude the national team from the 2022 World Cup finals.

2,000 women who purchased tickets for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Lebanon in Mashhad, Iran’s northeastern city, were unable to enter the stadium, according to Iranian news sources.

Outside of Iran, activists said that authorities deployed pepper spray at close range to disperse women who later protested the prohibition outside the venue.

After the execution of wrestling champion Navid Afkari in September 2020, the United for Navid group of expatriate Iranian athletes and campaigners claimed Iran should be banned from international soccer until it changes its policy.

In a letter to FIFA’s deputy secretary-general Mattias Grafstrom, it added, “We formally propose that FIFA immediately suspend Iran and restrict its participation in the World Cup 2022 as long as the Football Federation of Iran continues to breach the Olympic Charter and FIFA laws.”

Iran had promised FIFA that it would cease its policy of “gender apartheid” by allowing women to attend matches, according to the letter, which AFP received a copy of.

“However, not only has Iran failed that pledge by continuing to prohibit women from visiting stadiums, but women are also attacked, abused, and threatened,” the report continued.

Iran “continues to reject” FIFA’s requirements to demonstrate “basic adherence” to human rights, according to United for Navid.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch has urged FIFA to demand that Iran immediately lift its “discriminatory” stadium ban on women and hold perpetrators accountable.

“Given the Iranian authorities’ lengthy history of violations, FIFA should implement its own worldwide nondiscrimination guidelines and consider pursuing penalties for Iran’s noncompliance,” HRW’s senior Iran researcher Tara Sepehri Far said in a statement.

According to FIFA’s laws, gender discrimination is “strictly prohibited and punishable by suspension or expulsion,” according to the New York-based NGO.

“FIFA has long been overdue to show that it is serious about enforcing transparent accountability mechanisms,” Sepehri Far added.

For the first time in over three years, women were allowed to attend an international match in January, for a World Cup qualifier against Iraq that also saw the squad qualify for the finals in Qatar, the draw for which was held on Friday.

On Wednesday, a FIFA official told AFP that the news of women being prohibited came as a “worry” after “historic progress” demonstrated by the January 2021 match.

“FIFA anticipates that this will continue, as there is no going back.”

Prices Are Killing Citizens, Laura Miti Tells HH’s Govt

0

The civil rights activist and recently appointed human rights commissioner has said the UPND government should offer simplified explanations on what its doing to ease pressure on citizens arising from rising costs of basic goods.

Laura Miti wrote:

Had a conversation with a friend yesterday evaluating the UPND government’s first months in office.

We agreed that there can be no excuse for not delivering on governance issues within the 1st year. Governance is totally within the hands of government.

Because strengthing our systems and democracy is an internal housekeeping matter totally in the control of the President and his Cabinet laws to concretise our democracy must pass. These include concrete steps towards a credible and popular constitution, repeal of the horrible and unconstitutional Public Order and Cyber Crimes and Security Acts, and the passing of the Access to Information law. Defamation of the President has to be decriminalised. This, thankfully, is something which is on the way, if the progressive proposals in the review of the Penal and Criminal Procedure codes recently released by the Law Development Commission are passed into law.

On the positives we agreed that the return of the rule of law has made remarkably strong strides. This, especially as concerns the removal of cadres strangle hold on citizen lives. There is a sense of calm in the country that we had quite lost.

Back to what needs to be done, we thought that Ministers need to up their game. The nation must hear solid plans from them. They are generally quiet. A patent sense of absence surrounds them. Yes, we have heard about the welcome free education and hiring of teachers, for example. We, however, need to know what the Minister of Education’s plans for other crises in his sector are. Political class sizes, plummeted standards at UNZA and CBU, curricula.

Who is the Minister of Agriculture again? What are his plans to support crop diversification, export of fruit like avocados that we don’t even have to grow – they are in every yard.

All Ministers must be in full directional control of their portfolios and be heard from.

Finally, we thought that the huge question of the economy, unlike governance and systems, will need at least a couple of years to show signs of recovery. Our deep debt hole and broken economy cannot possibly turn around. immediately. However, it would be good to hear simplified explanations on what is being done to take us out of this painful space. Prices are killing citizens. They have to understand what government is doing, and why it will continue to be hard for a while.

Talking about explanations, I wonder why the President has not had a press conference in months. Isn’t that something he promised to do often?

That is totally in his hands!

FIFA & Govt Must Clear The Air On Dr. Kabungo’s Demise; Not That Bogus Statement From Madam Chushi Kasanda

FIFA & GOVT MUST CLEAR THE AIR ON DR. KABUNGO’S DEMISE; NOT THAT BOGUS STATEMENT FROM MADAM CHUSHI KASANDA

By Augustine Mukoka

In the aftermath of a tragic death such as the one that claimed the life of Dr. Joseph Kabungo, varying versions of the circumstances leading to the incident abound.

Much of what is said offers comfort to the bereaved but the grief remains deep.

It’s the feeling of a loved one’s absence, the pain of witnessing a vibrant life prematurely terminated that is devastating.

The reality of losing a loved one leaves an indelible mark particularly on those closest to the deceased.

Dr. Kabungo’s young family led by his son Jojo (Joseph Jr) and siblings, his wife, his brothers, sisters and friends are grieving.

The circumstances of his death in the wake of a crowd invading a soccer pitch have blighted the reputation of what we call the beautiful game.

To have two governments issue some bogus statements hours after the news broke to announce the cause of death only goes to add salt to the injury of those in mourning.

One can understand that Nigeria wants to project Dr. Kabungo’s death as an incident unrelated to the crowd trouble that ensued after the Super Eagles failed to secure a place at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Nigerians are trying very hard to insulate themselves from what are serious sanctions expected from FIFA especially if the death of a match official is directly connected to the chaos.

Soon as the verdict is out, we may potentially not see Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup qualifiers or even the 2026 World race.

To have the Chief Zambian government spokesperson madam Chushi Kasanda put out a statement that appears to collude with Nigeria was not only shameful, embarrassing but unacceptable.

The statement suggesting Dr. Kabungo died of a cardiac arrest after the match was issued even before a team of Zambian doctors and family members had left for Nigeria to conduct a postmortem and repatriate the remains of our colleague.

There are two contradicting versions; one that Dr. Kabungo was assaulted and trampled upon by the unruly fans. He was then rescued and taken to an area near the Ghana dressing where CPR was administered with little success until an ambulance was summoned to ferry him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The other version fronted mostly by Nigerians suggests Dr. Kabungo was headed to the dressing room for Ghana where he was to conduct a routine doping test but collapsed and started gasping for air after which paramedics attempted to resuscitate him. According to this version, he did not make it as a result of the alleged cardiac arrest.

Given the contradictions, it’s only proper that the government and FIFA expeditiously conclude their investigations and issue the report that led to Dr. Kabungo’s death to clear the speculation.

If not to their government, where will Zambians run for protection? The so called official position being parroted that Dr. Kabungo died of a cardiac arrest is inconclusive and remote to the version by others at the scene.

Assuming the cause of death was cardiac arrest, what triggered it?

I understand the diplomatic niceties at play, but we are dealing with a life of a comrade who was not in Nigeria for fun but duty. Dr. Kabungo meant so many things to different people whose lives he touched.

The least we can do in his death is value and honor him. To claim and hurriedly put up an “official position” when details are hazy is dishonorable to a man who rendered diligent service to his country.

In the video accompanying this article are the last moments of Dr. Kabungo deep in the sea of missiles at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

He is clad is a dark suit bearing a FIFA badge. He attempts to backtrack to safety but there appears to be no exit.

He now tries to squeeze past the crowd as missiles rain. What happened between the time the video ends and the moment the Nigerians claim he was found gasping for air at the dressing room of the Ghana national team is subject to speculation.

Both FIFA and CAF presidents issued statements last week, but none of them stated the cause of death as fronted by Nigerian officials. It was therefore unnecessary for Madam Kasanda to join a potentially misleading chorus led by our Nigerian colleagues.

Madam Kasanda should have waited for the Zambian delegation to return from Nigeria and furnish the country with their findings, not the statement she issued.

Sports minister Elvis Nkandu covered her tracks well with his parliamentary statement which called for patience as the Zambian delegation assigned to Nigeria compiled the postmortem report. So, it shouldn’t take weeks to determine the cause of death of Dr. Kabungo.

May the soul of our dear departed friend rest in peace. Goodbye Zenga!

From Goats to Chickens… SAUDIS WANT CHICKENS

0

A renowned multi-million dollar company from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has expressed interest in importing chickens from Zambia.

The importation of chickens from Zambia will enhance many small and medium entrepreneurs’ participation in growing economic activities in the country.

Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Elias Mubanga, says Durat Al-Etqan, Pioneers Chemical Factory and several other agro-chemicals companies, are interested in doing business in the poultry and agro-chemicals areas.

Mr. Mubanga says many other companies also expressed interest to set up agro-chemical production and distribution facilities in Zambia due to a guaranteed market.

He says government will also conduct a feasibility study throughout the ten provinces to find ways of engaging young people and women entrepreneurs.

He was speaking at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka yesterday when he arrived from Saudi Arabia where he attended the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEN) conference.

While in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Mubanga also held a bilateral meeting with the GEN Global President and Chairman, Jonathan Ortman and had sideline meetings with potential investors and SME venture partners.

“During the business engagements, we met some key business houses in the Kingdom who expressed eagerness to travel to Zambia to establish joint business ventures with local SMEs,” he stated.

Mr. Mubanga disclosed that government has also invited various potential partners to visit Zambia to actualise the envisaged economic cooperation.

The minister further stated that a team of experts in the agriculture sector and a pesticide company from Saudi Arabia will travel to Zambia to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with government.

He said government will facilitate policy requirements and engage banks that will encourage joint ventures to grow the agriculture sector.

And Acting Managing Director for Global Entrepreneurship Network-Zambia, Edwin Zulu, said the objective of the conference was to find opportunities and linkages between the investors and connect SMEs.

Mr Zulu added that Zambia was among 190 countries that participated at the global event.

“This is the first time that a Zambian delegation has participated in the global entrepreneurship congress at government level,” he noted.

Senior pastor demolishes church after catching his wife kissing assistant pastor

The senior pastor of Evangelical Church in Tana River County, Kenya, has demolished his church in anger after he caught his wife and the assistant pastor having a romantic moment after a prayer vigil.

According to Nairobi News, the preacher is said to have caught his wife kissing the assistant pastor in the church.

Joan Mulei, a member of the worship team, said the pastor and the wife left immediately after the service only for the pastor’s wife to return a few minutes later.

“People had already left and only the assistant pastor and a few worship team members stayed behind for a meeting when she walked in and joined in the meeting that would later end prematurely,” she said.

Ms Mulei says the pastor’s wife kept making the meeting as brief as possible by interjecting in each statement and giving immediate proposals.

The group ended the meeting with a prayer and proceeded home, leaving behind the youthful assistant pastor and the Reverend’s wife who appeared to be holding another exclusive meeting.

“While we were walking home, we met the senior pastor at the junction to the church, he looked worried and asked if we had seen his wife, we told him she was still held in a meeting with his assistant,” she said.

The pastor headed towards the church to pick up his wife as he feared the insecurity in the town following a rise in murder incidents by the Kayole Brothers gang.

On arrival at the Church, he found the lights switched off and the main door closed. He decided to use that rear door where he was shocked to find his wife entangled in the arms of his assistant, lost in a passionate kiss.

“We heard a man scream, Yesuuu!!!Yesu!!! And we thought he had been attacked so we ran to his rescue since we knew the voice of the pastor only to find him bringing down the church while the wife was pleading with him to settle,” said Ali Mohammed, a resident living near the church.

The man of God in tears demolished the iron-sheet-made building in the night and immediately hired some youth to carry them away.

Immediately after, he left the town for an unknown place and has not picked up calls since.

The wife has since left for her matrimonial home, leaving the church members in a dilemma.

Reached for comment, the youthful assistant pastor noted that all that happened was the devil’s work.

He claimed that the pastor’s wife coerced him into the act, denying that they have been having an affair.

“I don’t even know how it got that far, I only came to my senses when the pastor shouted my name upon catching us,” he said.

Church Members have resolved to rebuild the church and cleanse the altar of sin.

Some church elders have also resolved to dismiss the assistant pastor from the church and look for their senior pastor for talks and counselling.

UN prosecutor brands Putin a “war criminal’ and calls for arrest warrant

0

Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “war criminal” and should be arrested, says former chief war crimes tribunal prosecutor Carla Del Ponte.

She told Swiss newspaper Blick that she had shocked by Russia’s use of mass graves in Ukraine, saying that it reminded her of what she had seen in the former Yugoslavia.

Del Ponte added that said an international arrest warrant would prevent Putin from leaving Russia, and “it would be a strong signal that he has many states against him,”

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that the number of civilians killed by Russian troops in the newly-liberated town of Bucha could be “in the hundreds”.

At least 1,325 Ukrainian civilians have been killed in Russian attacks so far, according to UN estimates, including 120 children. A further 2,000 people have been injured.

War correspondents from AFP reported finding the bodies of at least 20 civilians in Bucha, just north-west of Kyiv, after Russian forces withdrew from the area on Saturday. The town had been completely cut off for a month after the Russian invasion.

“Three of them are tangled up in bicycles after taking their final ride, while others, with waxy skin, have fallen next to bullet-ridden and crushed cars,” the reporters wrote.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak claimed on Twitter that the men found dead with their hands tied behind their backs, “were shot dead by Russian soldiers”.

Even though non-combatants had been wearing white armbands to signal that they were unarmed, they were still targeted by Russian troops.

The Mayor of Bucha, Anatoliy Fedoruk, said the Russian occupiers had treated civilians with shocking brutality. “Corpses of executed people still line the Yabluska street in Bucha.

“Their hands are tied behind their backs with white ‘civilian’ rags, they were shot in the back of their heads. So you can imagine what kind of lawlessness they perpetrated here,” he told Reuters.

The UK’s Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, said that she was appalled by the atrocities in Bucha and other towns in Ukraine “Reports of Russian forces targeting innocent civilians are abhorrent,” she tweeted, adding that the UK is working with other governments to collect evidence and support a war crimes investigation by the International Criminal Court. “Those responsible will be held to account,” she warned.

Deputy PM Dominic Raab has said last month that anyone following Putin’s illegal orders could also face prosecution in the Hague: “For all of those commanders on the ground right through to the people around Putin in the Kremlin, what they do now, whether they give or whether they follow illegal orders to commit war crimes, they will be held to account for it, and they need to know that”.

Mr Raab, who had just returned from The Hague, added: “The word is going out and this is what we are doing in The Hague, with 38 other countries following our lead, sending the message to Putin and his commanders if you commit these kind of crimes you will end up in the dock of a court.

President Hakainde Hichilema addresses UPND party officials in Livingstone

0

President Hakainde Hichilema writes below…

Fellow citizens.

This evening, we held a meeting with the UPND party officials here in Livingstone.

We addressed various concerns and stated that every citizen out there has placed their hope on us and that we are working to create jobs and business opportunities.

During the address we stated that we are keen followers of social media and that we are listening attentively. We have read with dismay, issues to do with access to CDF where some strange conditions like cooperatives being on existence for three years even when they were just newly formed. This is a deliberate ploy to block our citizens from accessing CDF. Cabinet has approved that this is not the way to go as it deprives those who were never allowed to do business in the past regime. We want equity and this we will ensure.

During the engagement, we also stated that no one should be given a government contract when outside of the constituency, district or indeed province. The stay of contracts within these key areas stated will lead to local cash flow and that is how the economy will be run going forward.

We also emphasised that we are working to ensure that Zambia can be united and that we have to join hands in ensuring that this comes to fruition.

We won the 2021 elections because of all of you citizens through UPND as a tool and we appealed to the party leadership not to destroy what they created and that is UPND which is fighting so hard to unite and end lawlessness in the country.

Ultimately. Fellow citizens. We are grateful to you all for the votes you gave us in 2021 and the support you continue to give us and with our clear intent, we will run this country better.

We haven’t forgotten the past trauma that this country was subjected to including teargas canisters, jails and complete shutdown of both the economy and freedoms but we ask you all party officials and general citizenry to not accept the divisive nature of those not willing to build.

In August, 2021, we all made a decision to set our country on a different path and you chose us to lead and we are confident that Zambia is getting better and indeed will be better.

May God bless you all and May God bless our country.

Hakainde Hichilema
President of the Republic of Zambia.

UPND are not servants but businessmen- Given Lubinda

0

By Walusungu Lundu

WE’RE building ourselves to become the only alternative in this country, says Given Lubinda as he accuses the UPND government of having insatiable appetite for business.

Addressing the media at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court on Friday, the acting PF president said the UPND government does not care about the plight of the citizens.

Following the increase in fuel prices, Lubinda said time had come for “praise singers” to be realistic.
He said April would be a tough month for all apart from those using government resources.
Lubinda said there was no justification as to why fuel should cost K26 per litre.

“I have read a lot of social media comments people saying they are regrouping. That is exactly what we should be doing. As a matter of fact, to even say we are regrouping is not correct. What we are doing is building. We are building ourselves to become the only alternative in this country. And there is no question about it. Look at how all the promises have been broken. All of them,” he said. “I said once that please if indeed we store K3 on the price of fuel when it was K15, now that the price is K26, can you tell me who is stealing the K11? And by the way if you look at the international price of fuel today there is no justification whatsoever for fuel in Zambia to cost K26.

Lubinda said a litre of fuel should be not more than K17.
“They told us they will reduce the number of middlemen, have they done it? Instead they have closed Indeni [refinery] which was supposed to be getting cheap oil to come and refine in Zambia. This is all because they have insatiable appetite for business. The people who are governing this country today are not service people, they are business people. They are doing this for business. Business is the more reason why when Zambia is capable of growing its own poles for electricity they go and contract foreign companies,” he said. “They want to externalise dollars from Zambia to go to Zimbabwe…then say they are thinking about Zambia. They are not concerned about the welfare of Zambians. These Zambians must now…praise singers, time has come for you to also be realistic. Don’t just go about singing praises without understanding that on a daily basis the cost of living for you too is getting more and more expensive. This is the reason why even farmers can’t grow onions because this insatiable appetite for business has caused these people to start importing onions in Zambia.”
Lubinda said what was worse was that UPND was a government that was allowing the export of commodities without any exercise duty.

“Your maize was exported to Congo without duty. Who was benefiting from that? Very soon I shall be revealing who benefited from the sale of maize from Zambia to Congo because it was not all the farmers. There was just one farmer who benefited. He used government vehicles to export maize to Congo,” he charged. “My final words to the members of the party, don’t think that these guys will rest. For all their failures, they will arrest you. For all their failures they will harass you because that is the only thing they can do successfully. Have a lovely month even though it is going to be a very expensive month for all of us. Even the children who do not drive, those who say children won’t suffer, even the children who do not drive because of the increase in the fuel prices, even their milk is bound to be expensive. All of us are going to be affected. It is only those who are going to be using government resources who shall not feel the pinch. The rest of us, nipano tuli.”

Meanwhile, Lubinda said PF is only on leave adding that it would in 2026 bounce back to power.
“But for members of the Patriotic Front, I want to say, as your vice president, you always drive me. My blood always boils when I see the kind of solidarity you are giving to each other. This shows that the Patriotic Front is only on leave. There is no question about it. We are on leave,” said Lubinda. “Come 2026, this Patriotic Front shall form government. There is no doubt about it. I have no doubt in my mind that with this solidarity you are giving to one another, with the kind of mobilisation you are going round with, certainly in 2026 we are bound to form government again.”

I WILL LET THE LAW TAKE ITS COURSE EVEN WHEN DEALING WITH MY FANS – CEPHAS MPALI

By Thomas Ngala

Next when I am executing national duty as a police officer, I am not Cephas, Jefter Phiri tells his fans.

The 23-year-old Mpali Star understands that there are some people who would expect him to be lenient when handling suspects just because they are fans of Cephas, an emotional character he plays in Mpali, Zambia’s arguably biggest drama series.

Having understood that sometimes society fails to differentiate between Constable Phiri and Cephas, the passionate police officer is committed to handling cases based on how the law requires him to handle the matter.

Sharing his experience with regards to being an actor and police officer at the same time, Jefter uses the opportunity of being a movie star and a cop to influence positive change in society.

Commenting on his acting career, the movie star said despite him never wanting to quit, he at some point wanted to ditch the Cephas character but eventually overcame.

“I knew if I was to succeed with the character it will bring a lot to me and hence also change my life. So I allowed criticism from my directors and all the people on set so as to fully deliver,” he shares with Daily Star in an exclusive interview.

“…..the challenges were that most of the instructors would ask why joining police and leaving a very good comfortable life as a film actor but I would tell them that at times it’s not about the money but about what you love and how best you can use your influence to create awareness and bring about change. So with me, I strongly feel my advocacy work with police work they work well, it’s a complete meal for my work.”

Despite becoming a paramilitary police officer, Jefter has not stop playing his role in Mpali as he works as a police officer at night while during the day he goes to do his acting.

Asked for advice to young people, the young actor says “it is never too let to be who you want to be,” he said.

He believes that the biggest gift God has ever blessed everyone with is life adding that so as long as one is alive they have been permitted by God to make their dreams become a reality.

Jefter also believes that company matters if one is to achieve his or her dream adding that above all, the fear of God is vital.

Other than being an actor and a police officer, Jefter is also Child Right’s Activist.

Joy For Ginimbi’s Family As Court Rules ‘greedy’ Executor Offside

JOY FOR GINIMBI’S FAMILY AS COURT RULES ‘GREEDY’ EXECUTOR OFFSIDE

THE late socialite Genius Kadungure’s sisters, Juliet and Neria, have been granted authority to enjoy their inheritance by the High Court.

This followed alleged attempts by lawyer Patricia Darangwa to elbow them out.

Kadungure died in a car crash in 2020.

Darangwa was accused of been stripping Kadungure’s immovable properties in Botswana in violation of the extant provisional order of the High Court barring her.

Days after Kadungure’s demise, Darangwa tried to dispose one of his Lamborghini supercars, claiming that she was the executor of Kadungure’s estate.

His unsigned will had been accepted by the Master of the High Court.

The lawyer’s rushed moves triggered suspicions and forced the family to appeal against Darangwa’s appointment.

This request was granted but the family’s hands remained tied after Darangwa appealed at the Supreme Court.

It has emerged that she attempted to sell one of the late socialite’s immovable properties in Botswana

Juliet says Darangwa has been writing to the Master of Botswana High Court posing as the executor of Kadungure’s estate.

This forced the businessman’s sisters to file the present urgent chamber application, which has been granted by Justice Amy Tsanga.

Tsanga ruled that it cannot be disputed that the family risks losing their inheritance.

“It is the court’s finding that the family should be allowed to enjoy what the late Genius Kadungure left them. Therefore, the application for leave to execute the order, pending the appeal at the supreme Court, is hereby granted,” ruled the judge.

In their urgent application, Kadungure’s sisters said Kadungure’s business empire is on the verge of crumbling.

The court heard one of his top-of-the-range vehicles, a Bentley Continental, has gone missing while they can also not account for some haulage trucks and other cars which were in the possession of people he associated with during his lifetime.

At the same time, one of Kadungure’s major investments, Quick Gases (Pty) Ltd, based in Botswana is facing closure, with creditors lining up to claim their dues.

Juliet, Neria and theirr father Anderson, who are lawful executors, requested authority to defend litigation processes to avoid the collapse of the Botswana based company.

Their lawyer, David Chogureyi Dhumbura, said FNB Bank Botswana has instituted foreclosure action against Quick Gases.

MULENGA SATA GOES BROKE

..resorts to scamming local businessmen and orphans their hard earned money and properties.

As revealed by the “Source”

Late Republican President Michael Sata’s son Mulenga Sata has become a menace to society after going broke and has since resorted to scamming Lusaka businessmen and orphans their hard earned money and properties.

According to the Source close to the businessmen, Mulenga Sata is currently desperately trying to find buyers to buy three properties belonging to the businessmen that were used as collateral in a business transaction despite being paid back the principal amount and interests.

Mulenga Sata has stubbornly refused to hand back the title deeds for the properties because he wants to take advantage of poor businessmen’s softness by turning them into his cash cows who will be paying interests to the people he owes a lot of money.

The Source also disclosed that Mulenga Sata wants to sell a house belonging to two unnamed orphans whose both parents died. He has promised to give the poor orphans a difference of $20,000 after selling their property but the orphans have stopped him in his tracks by taking him to Court. .

“The Bible in the book of James 1:27 warns us against mistreating the orphans but why is Mulenga Sata doing this to the poor orphans?” Source wondered after quoting the word of scripture.

“I want to warn the public not to engage in any business transaction of buying properties with Mulenga Sata. This is a serious warning and anyone who will ignorantly do so risks losing their money,” warned the Source.

According to the Source, the principal amount plus interest was paid to Mulenga Sata in June last year and he even signed on a legal document his acknowledgement as proof of receipt of funds.

The Source also suspects that Mulenga Sata may not have disclosed to his business partner who happens to be his wife that he received the funds from the businessmen due to the way he is insisting on selling property which does not belong to him.

The Source further appealed to Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and the entire ruling party to properly scan Mulenga Sata before considering him for any position because he is not exhibiting leadership qualities with the way he conducts his businesses.

“Mulenga Sata failed to become rich when his father was in State House and now he wants to use his affiliations with the New Dawn Government to milk the poor and finance his extravagant lifestyle. He sends his kids to expensive schools in Europe when he has no proper financial cash flows. My advice to Mulenga Sata is that he should live within his means and if he wants to sell property let him sell what belongs to him,” said the Source.

Efforts to get a comment from the businessmen proved futile by press time as they were reportedly locked up in a meeting.

A public notice published in a newspaper has warned Zambians against purchasing some properties from Mulenga Sata or Hover Investments or his agents.

Being denounced for telling the truth- Fred M’membe

Being denounced for telling the truth

Some of us are good at getting in trouble for saying what others do not want to hear. Our friends in the UPND and its government seem to have the misconception that it is all about agreement and harmony.

Our politics are about plurality and diversity. Even our Christianity is not about united voicing Bible verses like John 3:16 or speaking the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Division, not unity, is a significant theme in the Bible. Prophet Jeremiah, from the Old Testament, was persecuted for saying what God told him to speak to the people. As a prophet of God, Jeremiah, was opposed for saying what people did not want to hear from God. Lies and gossip may be more popular than the truth. Should we shut up or speak up about what is harmful to society?

God called and appointed Jeremiah as His prophet to His people. God’s people and other religious leaders did not like what Jeremiah said from God. The temple’s chief official had Jeremiah beaten and put in stocks to pressure him to shut up. Many of the prophets of God in the Old Testament received reproach, ridicule, mocking, and even death for speaking up. Jesus was also persecuted for saying and doing what other religious leaders and people rejected.

As Christians, Jesus warns us that saying and living what Jesus said and did will result in our persecution. We will be persecuted because, “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher and the servant like his master.” Jesus warned his disciples that if they have called him Beelzebub, or Satan, how much more will they malign them.

Jesus warned his disciples that they should not fear persecution for speaking His words. They will prove true even if those offended by them reject them. Jesus and his words are meant for the good of others, even if they sting. Persecution, beatings, being placed in jail, or fed to lions will harm or kill your body, but it is God who saves your souls for heaven, not other people. We fear others and things we cannot control, but God is to be feared above all else.
