ALLIANCES MUST BE REGISTERED TO CONTEST ELECTIONS – ECZ

ALLIANCES MUST BE REGISTERED TO CONTEST ELECTIONS – ECZ

ELECTORAL Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro says political alliances must register with the Registrar of Societies if they want to contest in an election.

Speaking on Diamond TV, Sunday, Kasaro added that candidates must only use campaign materials and symbols of the party under which they have filed nominations.

“If you are contesting an election as an alliance, let it be registered with the Registrar of Societies because if you are contesting, when you are filing a nomination, they indicate if the candidate is standing as an independent or sponsored by a political party. Nothing is different this time. The whole issue is that all the commission has done is to clarify the law.” – News Diggers

Chabinga warns against politicisation of council of elders

Opposition Leader in Parliament Robert Chabinga has accused the Council of Elders for Ethical Leadership, Democracy and Development (CEELDD) of engaging in partisan politics, warning that its actions could undermine Zambia’s democratic syste

In a statement, Chabinga questioned the council’s decision to convene a meeting of selected opposition political parties, saying such conduct compromises the body’s neutrality.

“A body of elders is supposed to stand above political interests. Once it begins to selectively engage political players, its credibility inevitably comes into question,” Chabinga said.

CEELDD, which emerged earlier this year to advocate for governance reforms and opposition unity, includes prominent national figures such as Prince Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika and former vice-president Inonge Wina.

Chabinga also criticised reports suggesting the council intends to endorse a single opposition figure as a common presidential candidate, describing the move as undemocratic.

“No individual or group has the authority to decide leadership on behalf of the entire opposition. Democracy thrives on choice, not imposed consensus,” he said.

He warned that non-elected groups acting beyond their mandate risk creating divisions and political tension.

“When organisations step outside their neutral role, they create divisions rather than unity. That path only weakens national cohesion,” he said.

Chabinga said the country currently enjoys an open political environment and cautioned against actions that could reverse democratic gains.

“Zambia’s democracy is maturing and must be protected from manipulation disguised as national interest,” he said.

He reaffirmed the opposition’s commitment to constitutionalism and peaceful political competition and urged civic bodies to act in the national interest.

State House Should not Insult and Bully their Artists- Amb Emmanuel Mwamba

By Amb Emmanuel Mwamba

State House Should not Insult and Bully their Artists
After managing and being close to artists engaged in political campaigns, I learnt something.
The artists made thousands of people dance to their awesome campaign music or the comedian made the people laugh, but the artists usually went home without money or sustained financial support.

When the lights are out, the music is off, the stage is folded and the crowd have faded, sometimes I personally drove the artists to their homes because the person assigned to pay them had stopped answering the phone or just disappeared.
One immediate crisis was that the artists lost commercial opportunities to earn money, including from government, state, and parastatal jobs as they were deemed too partisan to be given government opportunities.

So they never perform at public ceremonies, events or activities except at political rallies or party events.
They then have to depend entirely on hand-outs from State House, their aides or Ministers or business men associated with the party.
I remember there was one person who understood this crisis and took it upon himself to help.

A Permanent Secretary who understood the pain of artists, became like their god father and used his own personal resources to help…It was such a big burden but a temporal relief.
Election campaigns are far apart, and the suffering by artists, usually unable to get commercial work, is intense in between.
So when I saw the angry outbursts by Lucky’s- comedy ( Lucky Hangwani) and Junior bally (Benard Mushingwa), this was embarrassing for State House officials but necessary.

But many don’t understand.
Usually, this is the act of last resort to get the attention of the President and is not an act to embarrass but a cry for help and it deserves attention.

But the reaction from State House has been but foolish and a display of utter immaturity.
The dedicated smear, abusive, and dirty attacks against the boys from State House rogue media, Koswe, is unacceptable, and the bullying tactics to silence them do not inspire.

Usually, the two boys were the brave ones, and this state of discontent could be widespread among the UPND artists.
My simple advice would be; “Just meet and help the artists, and do not insult them.”

Dalitso Lungu fails to account for his obscene wealth

Dalitso Lungu fails to account for his obscene wealth

DALITSO Lungu, the son of late former president Edgar Lungu has spectacularly failed to prove he legally acquired a fleet of over 70 vehicles along with luxury apartments and pieces of land dotted around the country.

This failure has since led the Economic and Financial Crimes Court (EFCC) to conclude that Dalitso and his Company Saloid Traders Limited might have engaged in illegal activities, tax evasion and money laundering for them to acquire properties way beyond their legitimate income.

In its judgment dated February 9, 2026 the Court ruled that the single orphaned son cannot innocently claim to have been gifted a filling station by his father as the manner in which the land in Lusaka’s Jack compound was obtained from the Lusaka City Council, gifted to him and later leased to Total Energies has no legal foundation.

In forfeiting his 79 vehicles and 25 pieces of land, the court said Dalitso had claimed that he used profits from his businesses and claimed that he was a commercial farmer yet he could not mention a single crop that he sowed or reaped any livestock he reared nor mention a single name of the people he sold his farm produce to, which makes the property tainted.

The Court said the failure to prove the source of his funds to purchase property way beyond his legitimate income proves that the same was illegally obtained.

In this matter, the State had moved a motion before the EFCC to have 79 vehicles worth over K24 million and 25 pieces of land dotted across the country in Kanakantapa of Chongwe district, Chibombo, Chisamba, Solwezi, Masaiti in Ndola district, Chilanga, Petauke and Nakonde belonging to Dalitso confiscated.

Dalitso opposed the application by the Director of Public Prosecutions arguing that he did not engage in crime to acquire the pricy cars and pieces of land across the country, saying the late former president heavily invested in him by gifting him the said properties.

Dalitso said though he did not earn much from his job his properties were legally acquired with the assistance of his parents as Saloid Traders limited is a family business which was owned by his late father.

However the investigations officer, Pardon Liuma maintained that Dalitso Lungu acquired unexplained wealth worth K31,332,019.75 and when asked how he acquired the properties, he claimed that he was a farmer but could not specify his farm produce nor disclose who his customers where.

Liuma said he visited all the properties owned by Dalitso Lungu and did not establish where he conducts his agricultural activities, as the only farm that was discovered with some farming activity is registered in the name of Lungu’s widow Esther, and not Dalitso.

He said Dalitso failed to give a reasonable explanation on how he acquired the pricy properties which are above his net worth.

Liuma indicated that Dalitso’s company Saloid Traders Limited acquired unexplained wealth amounting to K35,067,662.56 which was at variance with its clean traceable income in the tune of K7,855,645.00.

He said Dalitso alleged that he bought vehicles under Saloid Traders Limited, using resources from business operations and other sources such as farming yet he could not mention his farm products nor the customers that purchased his farm products.

However in their findings judges Pixie Yangailo, Ann Onnonuju and Ian Mabbolobbolo said where admissions are made by a party opposing an application, such admissions move hearsay
statements into the realm of facts which do not require to be proved.

The judges established that Dalitso having largely and expressly admitted the truth of what is contained in the affidavits in support means that those facts admitted are no longer in dispute and evidence is not required to prove them.

“It is our considered view that Section 71 of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act (FPOCA) applies to both Conviction Based Forfeiture for the purposes of convicting an
Interested Party, and to Non-Conviction Based Forfeiture proceedings for purposes of establishing an offence, a serious
offence, committed by the Interested Party,” Judge Onnonuju said on behalf of others.

“It is therefore abundantly clear that in an application for Non-Conviction Based Forfeiture of tainted property, the property must be tainted in relation to a serious offence, and in casu, the serious offences are those provided for under Section 71(1) of the FPOCA and Section 7 of the Prohibition and Prevention of Money Laundering Act No. 14 of 2001.”

Judge Onnonuju said investigations conducted at Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), shows that neither Dalitso nor his Company’s income and business earnings, or profits speak to their capacity to purchase the said Properties.

She said investigations conducted at ZRA
with regards to taxes paid by both fails to substantiate a level of income or business profits, that would enable them both to acquire properties in the manner and at the rate they did, which points to the offence of tax evasion and possession of proceeds of crime.

“Investigations conducted into the income and business earning of Dalitso and Saloid Traders fails to explain the ability to pay cash in US Dollars for motor vehicles and the acquisition of real estate property in the manner and time Dalitso did. They have failed to establish the legitimate source or sources of the monies used in the manner it was,” judge Onnonuju said.

She said Dalitso earned K7,075,645.00 from Total Energies Zambia Limited and K780,000.00 from BIl Zambia Limited against unexplained wealth amounting to K35,067,662.56 therefore the total earnings and expenditure, mostly in cash and paid in US Dollars, against the value of the properties established as well as revelations from the investigations on Returns at ZRA, led the State to reasonably suspect that the properties are liable for forfeiture to the State as they are tainted property reasonably suspected to be proceeds o f crime.

“It is our considered view that the State has fulfilled Section 31(1) of the FOCA and has satisfied this Court, on a balance of
probability, that the properties cited are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and tainted, and therefore, liable to forfeiture to
the State,”Justice Onnonuju said.

“ It i s clear from the evidence adduced by the State that Dalitso, Saloid Traders Limited and the Co-Director his wife Matildah Likando Milinga, had no financial capacity to purchase the cited Properties based on the Bank Statements produced, the income earned throughout their employment and the Tax Returns
provided by ZRA.”

She said Dalitso claims to be a commercial farmer and having other sources of income outside his employment have not been
substantiated by the production of evidence showing the success of his endeavours through the production of Tax Returns, bank statements, and evidence of business transactions yielding income earned and profits made.

Judge Onnonuju said Dalitso has failed to prove that the properties were bought and largely financed by his late father Edgar Lungu to support his claim which could have been done through the production of Bank transfers into any of his bank accounts, Dollar and Kwacha, evidencing monies used to purchase the said Properties.

“With regard to Section 30(b) and 31(2) of the FPOCA, the Is Interested Dalitso’s parents are not Interested Parties in these Proceedings and have not therefore tendered evidence to show or register an interest in the Property, nor to substantiate Dalitso’s assertions that they financed him and his company and financially facilitated the purchase o f the cited Properties,” judge Onnonuju said.

“Dalitso in his Affidavit in Opposition not only submitted that his parents are the source of funds used t o purchase the cited Properties, but submitted that the properties at Jack Compound were gifted to him by his father as evidenced by copies of two Deeds of Gift dated 16th April 2019 and exhibited and marked “DLa” and “DL2c” and leased through the 2nd Interested Party to
Total Energies Zambia Limited for USD8,000.00 per month from 1st September 2018.”

Justice Onnonuju indicated the date of the current Occupancy Licences is 29th January 2018, valid for 30 years, and no evidence has been tendered in the form of an express approval by Lusaka City Council for the holder of the licences, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, to sub-licence or assign the benefits or part with the rights granted over the premises or any part to his son and company

She said neither has evidence been tendered to show that Dalitso has been entitled by law to succeed the Occupant of the licences in the event of death or mental incapacity of the owner.

Judge Onnonuju said without proof of such application and the approval thereof, and indeed the issuance of Certificates of Title for both Stands from the Ministry o f Lands, Edgar Chagwa Lungu cannot proceed to gift the premises or parcels of land to Dalitso by way of the Deeds of Gift.

“We have noted that there has been no evidence tendered of proof of registration of the purported Deeds of Gifts a s required by Section 4 of the Lands and Deeds Registry Act Chapter 187 of the Laws ofZambia. We consequently find the two Deeds of Gift, exhibited and marked “DLa” and “DL2c” do not meet the legal requirements t o qualify as Deed of Gift to transfer ownership of the subject Properties,” she said.

“Occupancy Licences granted to Edgar Chagwa Lungu for Stand No. BP 37/Block 603 01/01 and Stand No. BP 82/Block 603 01/01 Jack Improvement Area Lusaka are dated 29th January, 2018. Evidence on Record shows that the premises were then leased to Total Energies Zambia Limited on 1st September 2018, when the said premises were under an Occupancy Licence held by Edgar Chagwa Lungu. However, the Lease Agreement, exhibited and marked “PL34” in the Applicant’s Amended Affidavit in Support, shows that the said Agreement was between Saloid Traders Limited, the Company incorporated on 17th September, 2018, and Total Energies Zambia Limited, a full 16 days before the 2nd Interested Party could legally contract.”

The Court established that, the date of execution of the two Deeds of Gift, which were not legally executed, purportedly gifting Dalitso as a director in Saloid Traders limited was done 7 months before himself through his company could legally contract with Total Energies Zambia Limited.

“The Lease was executed before the purported Deed of Gift. We find that the Interested Parties regarding Stand No. BP 37/Block 603 01/01 and Stand No. BP 82/Block 603 01/01 (housing the gas station) Jack Improvement Area Lusaka have not acted legally and above board,” Judge Onnonuju said.

She ruled that there are clear signs of concealment when it comes to the manner in which the said premises were handled and transferred from Council ownership to Edgar Chagwa Lungu and Dalitso as well as in the manner in which the Lease Agreement between Saloid Traders Limited and Total Energies Zambia Limited was executed.

“The lawfulness of the source of the Property gifted to Dalitso and the clear irregularities in the contract entered by Saloid Traders Limited and Total Energies Zambia Limited deem the impugned premises tainted in line with the definition of tainted property in Section 2 o f the FPOCA,” Judge Onnonuju said.

“Based on our finding, Dalitso cannot be deemed to be an innocent owner of the impugned premises who acquired them by way of gift as a bona fide transferee without knowledge through due diligence of the unlawful nature and origin of the said gifts.”

She said the Late Edgar Lungu’s ability to gift the impugned premises must itself have a lawful foundation of which it did not.

Justice Onnonuju said the production of the Deeds of Gift does not discharge Dalitso’s evidentiary burden once the State, and indeed the evidence on record, raises credible suspicion of illicit and dubious acquisition.

“We have noted that the investigations into the financial capacity of the Interested Parties showed a lack of compliance with Tax Returns required by ZRA and the submission of Nil Returns pointing to not only the fact that the Interested Parties had no discernible income from employment or business transactions and dealings that would be subject to tax, but also that the monies used to purchase the cited Properties could have been obtained from illicit or unlawful activities such as money laundering and tax evasion,” she said.

The EFCC said the lack of establishment of legitimate sources of income to enable Dalitso and his company’s acquisition of the cited properties leads to the reasonable suspicion that they are tainted property and proceeds of crime.

The Court said evidence adduced by the State is not just from intelligence sources, but compiled as a result of robust investigations at ZRA, RTSA, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, NAPSA and various Banks where accounts held by Dalitso and his company are domiciled, accompanied by sworn Statements and Reports, and whose findings have not been sufficiently disputed by the Interested Parties.

“Based on the foregoing findings, we are of the view that the Director of Public Prosecutions has successfully made out its case for Non-
Conviction Based Forfeiture of tainted property. The evidentiary burden that had shifted to the Interested Parties was not discharged as required by the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act, Act Number 29 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia,”said justice Onnonuju.

“We accordingly Order that the cited Properties herein be forfeited to the State, to be applied as the Director of Public Prosecutions deems fit within the confines of the law. The Interested Parties are, in consequence, condemned in costs, to be taxed in default of agreement.”

You Sold The Party And That Is Why We Came Up With Tonse, We Have Forgiven You But Dont Claim To Be More Tonse Than Us Who Started It. – Zumani Fires at Miles

By Current Zambia
The Tonse Alliance has dismissed claims by Miles Sampa that its leaders are “illegal members,” describing the remarks as insulting and misleading.

Tonse Secretary General Zumani Zimba made the remarks when he appeared on Showster House, where he explained that the alliance was formed after Sampa allegedly traded the Patriotic Front (PF) to the United Party for National Development (UPND), leaving former president Edgar Lungu and other members without a political home.

Dr Zimba said the situation at the time compelled him and fellow opposition leader Sean Tembo to establish the Tonse Alliance as a legitimate political platform.

He further argued that it is Sampa and his associates who are misrepresenting themselves as Tonse members, noting that even before the death of former president Lungu, Sampa was not a member of the alliance.

Dr Zimba maintained that the Tonse conference was conducted lawfully and in full compliance with the alliance’s consistition.

Political Activist says PF’s 2026 Ballot Exclusion is Inevitable

Political Activist Isaac Mwanza says the biggest problem that the opposition patriotic front has is not the internal wrangles they are going through but the fact that they will not be on the ballot in the august 2026 general elections.

Mr Mwanza says the reason the PF will never be on the ballot is that such things have been seen before where the judiciary does not help parties resolve their party issues adding that the courts have already shown that they are not ready to resolve the wrangles within the pf.

He tells Q news that the party must rule out the possibility that the pf and the boat will be on the ballot and as soon as the leaders realized this, they must have used another plan to ensure that they re-brand which they have failed to do for 5 years now

He indicates that the PF is still basking in the past glory as they believe that they are the biggest opposition political party and every alliance they go into must be led by the leadership that was rejected by the Zambian people in 2021.

He highlights that its understood for members of parliament to want to contest as they want their seats but most of those in the PF just want to hold on to the party as it is about getting back onto power as the patriotic front.

NAREP Urges Govt to Set Up Mental Health Desk for MPs

The National Restoration Party (NRP) has called on the government in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to establish a dedicated desk at the national assembly to address the growing concerns surrounding mental health issues among members of parliament.

Party Secretary General Martin Mulenga says as Zambia approaches the end of the 13th Session of the National Assembly, many Members of Parliament are experiencing mental health challenges, with some uncertain about their political future.

Mr. Mulenga notes that the pressure surrounding candidate endorsements and the fear of losing parliamentary seats has contributed to heightened stress levels among legislators.

He has since urged the Ministry of Health to introduce regular mental health screenings for parliamentarians at Parliament grounds, adding that counseling sessions and mental health awareness programs should be incorporated.

He is calling on the government to treat the matter with urgency and seriousness.

Solwezi Man Arrested After Faking Death Following FRA Payment

🇿🇲 BRIEFING | Solwezi Man Arrested After Faking Death Following FRA Payment

Police in Solwezi have arrested a 29-year-old man accused of staging his own death days after receiving thousands of kwacha from the Food Reserve Agency for maize supplies, in an incident that triggered public panic and a three-day search operation.

Chipango Chitumbo of Kalumbila allegedly caused alarm last Thursday when reports emerged that he had dived into the Solwezi River. Officers responding to the incident recovered baby shoes, a SIM card, and his national registration card concealed in a plastic bag on the Solwezi River Bridge, fuelling fears that he had taken his own life

But no body was found.

After three days of searching, Chitumbo was discovered alive on Sunday at Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church in Zambia Township, where he was apprehended.

A family member told the Daily Mail that Chitumbo had recently received about K26,000 from FRA, after which his behaviour reportedly shifted. The source suggested domestic pressure over securing the money may have contributed to his distress.

Police say the case was reported by his father-in-law, Jones Chipimo, who informed authorities that Chitumbo had sent a WhatsApp audio message to the family group indicating plans to commit suicide in the river.

North-Western Province police commanding officer Brighton Siwale confirmed Chitumbo has since been charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The incident highlights how financial stress, family tensions, and misinformation can quickly escalate into a public emergency, drawing significant police resources and community anxiety in the process.

Social Media Drama, and an Arrest That Wasn’t Quite What It Seemed

Social Media Drama, and an Arrest That Wasn’t Quite What It Seemed

The Council of Elders from the East, known primarily for powdering bembas and restoring cultural balance, may need to add another duty to their job description: sitting down social media bully Kondwani Banda and asking him politely but firmly to use his social media platform wisely But that intervention, sadly, remains a future project.

Late one evening, just as Zambians were preparing to retire after a long day of defending the Lozi traditional attire which was caught in the crossfire of the Online Ghana vs Zambia Blouse Edition, International Mulamu dropped what many of Kondwani Banda’s alleged victims had waited years to hear: “Kondwani Banda has been arrested in Kenya.”

The internet paused. Screens refreshed. Popcorn was grabbed.
Adding fuel to the fire, Cameron-American Sir Gerald quickly assured his followers that he is very American and that his connections stretch so far they can arrest someone even when the crime, the complainant, and common sense are in different countries. He implied that a few strings had been pulled.

Instead of employing his alleged Navy-acquired skill of lying low before striking, Gerald immediately went on a media tour, granting interviews to leading newspapers and landing front-page headlines as if he personally ordered a midnight extraction of a Venezuelan president.

Netizens, however, were not convinced.
Questions flooded timelines:
How can Kenyan police arrest a foreign national over a complaint that wasn’t filed in Kenya?

Is Interpol now accepting screenshots and voice notes?
Hours later, Kondwani Banda himself appeared and confirmed the arrest but with a plot twist. The arrest, he said, had nothing to do with defamation or online harassment. It was simply an immigration issue: he had overstayed his welcome in the Swahili-speaking nation.

Just like that, the internet pivoted.
Attention swiftly shifted from Kondwani to Gerald’s American  connections, and the impressive speed at which his story unraveled.

Zambians being Zambians, began fact-checking accents, timelines, and military claims with Olympic-level enthusiasm.

Reacting to the online heat, Gerald now the latest target of Kondwani’s alleged attacks clarified that he harbors no ill will and simply hopes that non of his followers become future victims.

In an earlier post, Gerald stated that he has chosen to focus on his small but growing family, rather than engage in online battles that are “obviously not healthy” for him, his business, or his household peace.

BURKINA FASO’S PARLIAMENT APPROVES BAN ON POLITICAL PARTIES

BURKINA FASO’S PARLIAMENT APPROVES BAN ON POLITICAL PARTIES

BURKINA Faso’s transitional parliament on Monday approved a bill banning all political parties in a move observers say allows the military junta led by Captain Ibrahim Traore to consolidate control.

The text which received no opposition from lawmakers repeals the charter of political parties and the law relating to the financing of parties, electoral campaigns and the status of the political opposition.

Political party activities have been suspended in the Sahel country since the army seized power in 2022.

On Thursday, the United Nations rights chief called on the Burkina Faso government to halt all repression of civic space and to overturn its plan to prohibit all political parties.

In July, Burkinabe authorities enacted a restrictive new law on freedom of association and, in November, issued a new decree requiring NGOs and associations to open and maintain cash accounts exclusively with a state-run bank.

A government minister has defended the ban as a ‘reset’ which ends the polarization of the population which he blamed on political parties.

Harry Kalaba Schooled on Economics

Harry Kalaba Schooled on Economics

I refer to the article published by Hon Harry Kalaba on his facebook page in which he alleges that the UPND Government found the exchange rate at K15 per then raised it K30 and then drops it K20. He questions why this should be a source of celebration and praise for the UPND Government and President Hakainde Hichilema.

It is very clear that ba Kalaba doesn’t understand the macroeconomics at play or is deliberately misleading Zambians.

Firstly, the Exchange rates don’t move because of politics or slogans; they move because of macroeconomic fundamentals. The IMF Article IV assessments (Consultation) and 5th ECF review for Zambia in July 2025 are explicit; positive economic outlook despite drought-induced challenges, growth projected at 4% for 2024, rising to 5.8% in 2025 anchored on debt sustainability, strong reform performance, and necessary fiscal adjustments.

The Kwacha depreciation during the PF regime was driven by fiscal indiscipline: large fiscal deficits, unsustainable public debt, rising inflation, and collapsing confidence driven by debt default.

What Mr. Kalaba needs to understand is that what has changed is policy. The Bank of Zambia tightened monetary policy to anchor inflation expectations, inflation is now moderating, and that stabilizes the currency. Fiscal consolidation has reduced pressure on domestic financing, while debt restructuring and IMF engagement have restored credibility. As a result, Zambia’s gross foreign exchange reserves (Which stood at approximately US$1.2–1.5 billion in early 2021 to a record high of US$5.2 billion by October–December 2025).

This massive growth has been driven by economic reforms, debt restructuring, and increased export earnings, providing a stronger buffer for the kwacha hence economic growth is stabilizing from a stronger base.

Crucially, this restored confidence is visible in the market. The first quarter of 2026, Government bond auctions were oversubscribed, showing investors are willing to commit long-term capital at home. That does not happen in an economy people don’t trust.

That is why the kwacha is firmer today, driven in part by the new currency directives. This is not cosmetic, and it is not accidental. It is the textbook outcome of President Hakainde and the UPND Government’s disciplined macroeconomic adjustment, and deserve credit for restoring stability and credibility.

Fellow UPND members, this is a massive achievement by the UPND Government and President Hakainde Hichilema which should not be downplayed. We should all celebrate it and make sure every Zambian understands it.

Give President Hakainde Hichilema his flowers!

MUNDUBILE PF FACTION CALLS FOR CIVILITY, WARNS AGAINST CONTEMPT OF COURT.

By Osward Kafwanka
The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) faction aligned to Brian Mundubile has called on the Given Lubinda-led PF faction and other PF camps to conduct their internal political activities in a civil and orderly manner.

The Mundubile campaign team has warned that continued misconduct could amount to contempt of court.

Speaking at a press briefing, Mukushi South Member of Parliament Davies Chisopa, who is the National Campaign Manager for Mr. Mundubile, urged PF members to rally behind the Tonse Alliance leader and actively participate in the ongoing nationwide campaign.

Mr. Chisopa has dismissed claims that political alliances must be registered, explaining that all members of the Tonse Alliance belong to duly registered political parties and that current laws do not require the registration of alliances.

He made the remarks while unveiling a 72-member Western Province campaign committee, which will be led by Oscar Liwoyo Sinjabata.

KWACHA STABILITY IS POLITICAL MANIPULATION AHEAD OF AUGUST POLLS – PF MP

KWACHA STABILITY IS POLITICAL MANIPULATION AHEAD OF AUGUST POLLS – PF MP

By: Thomas Afroman Mwale

Patriotic Front Feira Member of Parliament Emmanuel Tembo has described the recent appreciation of the Kwacha against major convertible currencies as political manipulation, alleging that the government has offloaded more United States dollars onto the market to control volatility of the local currency.

Mr. Tembo claimed that the Kwacha’s appreciation is linked to the upcoming general elections, questioning why load shedding appears to have ended and currency stability has been achieved barely five months before the polls.

Speaking when he featured on Millennium TV’s Pulse Nation, the lawmaker predicted that Zambians will be shocked immediately after the August 13 general elections, alleging that the Kwacha could depreciate to as high as K30 to one US dollar, with load shedding resuming.

He described the trend as an old style of politics, which he said only brings temporary improvements in the state of affairs in the months leading to elections.

His comments follow Thursday, 5th February exchange rate figures, which showed the Kwacha trading at K18.41 ngwee to one United States dollar on the buying side and K18.78 ngwee on the selling side.

“I’m Not A Foreign Agent”-Denies Controversial Forensic Investigator Paul O’Sullivan.

“I’m Not A Foreign Agent”-Denies Controversial Forensic Investigator Paul O’Sullivan.

“I’m not a foreign agent.”

These are the words of the controversial Forensic Investigator Paul O’Sullivan as he was explaining his three citizenships.

O’Sullivan is giving evidence before the SAPS Ad Hoc Committee on Tuesday.

Under oath, O’Sullivan stated that in his 40 years in South Africa and he has never performed any foreign agent activities and that his loyalty is to South Africa.

O’Sullivan explained that holding multiple passports was purely for travel convenience and emphasized that he has never supported any foreign government.

He also confirmed that his NGO, Forensics for Justice, receives no foreign funding and is fully transparent about donations, which are mostly small contributions from ordinary citizens.

A major focus is his multiple citizenships including Ireland as he had Irish parents, the UK because he was boorn there, and South Africa where he was naturalised as he has been living here for over 40 years.

Under questioning, O’Sullivan said:

“I can categorically state that I have not performed any foreign agent activities in 40 years, and in fact my loyalty is to South Africa.”

When he was asked about multiple passports he said:

“It’s very easy to have foreign passports because it’s very convenient to be able to travel around the world. The multiple passports story is a convenience.”

And on foreign funding for his NGO:

“We do not receive any foreign funding… From 2015 until present, anybody can look at our accounts, most years we’re lucky if we get R100,000 in donations for a year.”

O’Sullivan’s testimony comes amid ongoing investigations into senior policing figures and allegations of corruption, including the case of former Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi.

KABIMBA URGES OPPOSITION TO FOCUS ON IDEAS, NOT PERSONAL ATTACKS

KABIMBA URGES OPPOSITION TO FOCUS ON IDEAS, NOT PERSONAL ATTACKS

OPPOSITION Economic Front President Wynter Kabimba says opposition political leaders will only become attractive to the electorate when they challenge the ideas and policies of President Hakainde Hichilema, rather than resorting to personal attacks.

Mr. Kabimba has urged opposition leaders to focus on issue-based politics, emphasising that targeting individuals instead of policies does not offer meaningful alternatives to the Zambian people.

He said it is not issue-based politics for the opposition to attack President Hichilema personally instead of critiquing his ideas and policies.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Kabimba said opposition leaders who want to unseat the President are failing to provide viable alternatives to address the challenges facing Zambians.

“These ideas that people say the President is pursuing are not helping Zambians who are seeking alternative solutions,” Mr. Kabimba said.

He stressed that the nation will only develop when Zambians are presented with alternative and better ideas that respond to their needs and concerns.

MAN ARRESTED FOR FAKING DEATH AFTER RECEIVING K30,000 FRA PAYMENT IN SOLWEZI

MAN ARRESTED FOR FAKING DEATH AFTER RECEIVING K30,000 FRA PAYMENT IN SOLWEZI

Police in Solwezi have arrested a 29-year-old man of Kalumbila for allegedly faking his death after receiving about K30,000 from the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) for maize he supplied to the agency.

In a statement, North-Western Province police commanding officer Brighton Siwale identified the suspect as Chipango Chitumbo, who allegedly caused panic last Thursday when he purportedly dived into the Solwezi River.

Mr Siwale said the incident triggered a search operation for Chitumbo’s body, which was unsuccessful. During the search, police officers recovered a pair of baby shoes, a SIM card and a national registration card (NRC) concealed in a plastic bag on the Solwezi River Bridge.

“After three days of searching, the suspect was discovered on Sunday at Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church in Zambia Township, where he was apprehended,” Mr Siwale said.

A family member told the Daily Mail yesterday that Chitumbo had recently received K26,000 from the FRA, after which his behaviour reportedly changed. The source said his wife pressured him to keep the money at their house, a proposal he allegedly did not agree with.

According to the family, Chitumbo later sent a series of voice notes to relatives expressing distress and threatening to end his life. Concern heightened after reports emerged that his personal items had been found at the Solwezi River Bridge, sparking speculation that he had jumped into the river. Some family members rushed to the scene and identified the items as belonging to him.

Mr Siwale said the matter was reported to police on Thursday by Chitumbo’s father-in-law, Jones Chipimo, who informed officers that the suspect had sent an audio message on the family WhatsApp group indicating plans to commit suicide in the Solwezi River.

Police have since charged Chitumbo with conduct likely to cause the breach of peace, and investigations are ongoing.

Epstein Files: Claims of “Super Race” Plan Surface in Released Records

Newly released documents related to Jeffrey Epstein continue to fuel controversy. Among the material discussed by investigators and media are claims that the late financier spoke about a plan to impregnate multiple women as part of an idea to create a so‑called “superior human race.”

Authorities have not confirmed any such project ever took place, but the allegations have added to the disturbing picture surrounding Epstein’s activities and behavior.

The files are still being reviewed, and investigators say the priority remains justice for victims and establishing the full truth behind Epstein’s network.

Burkina Faso Records Historic Gold Boom Under Traoré — State Tightens Control, Revenues Rise

Burkina Faso Records Historic Gold Boom Under Traoré — State Tightens Control, Revenues Rise

Burkina Faso has achieved its highest gold production ever, reaching 94 tonnes in 2025 under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The surge follows years of decline caused by political instability and repeated coups that had driven away investors. Authorities have now moved to restructure the mining sector, increasing the state’s ownership stake and tightening regulation over foreign mining companies.

Government officials say the new policy is designed to ensure the country benefits directly from its natural resources, with a larger share of mining profits now flowing into the national treasury instead of leaving the country.

At current international prices (around US$2,000 per ounce), 94 tonnes of gold is worth over US$6 billion (approximately N$112 billion)…a major potential boost for state revenue, public projects and security spending.

The policy direction is widely seen as a shift toward resource nationalism and partial nationalization, with Burkina Faso seeking greater economic sovereignty over its gold sector.

France urges young adults to have babies early as birth rate drops

The French government has announced plans to encourage young adults, especially those around age 29, to start having children earlier amid fears of a deepening fertility crisis.

Health officials say the move is aimed at preventing future regret, with many people facing fertility problems later in life and wishing they had acted sooner.

The campaign is part of a 16-point plan to boost France’s falling birth rate, a problem affecting many Western countries, including the UK, Sky News reported.

France’s fertility rate currently stands at 1.56 children per woman, far below the 2.1 needed to maintain a stable population.

Officials say the decline is creating anxiety over how pensions and healthcare will be funded as the population ages and the number of working taxpayers shrinks.

Under the new strategy, the government plans to send “targeted, balanced and scientifically sound” information to young people on fertility, sexual health and contraception.

The health ministry stressed that fertility should be seen as a shared responsibility between men and women.

France is also expanding egg-freezing centres from 40 to 70 and positioning itself as a leader in fertility research.

The country already offers free egg-freezing for people aged 29 to 37 — a service that costs about £5,000 per round in the UK.

Critics, however, argue that encouraging childbirth alone won’t fix the problem, saying issues like housing, childcare, maternity care and financial stability matter more.

Demographers say the situation became more alarming after France recorded more deaths than births last year — a first that sent shockwaves through the country.

The government has also admitted that France’s maternal and infant mortality rates are higher than those of neighbouring countries and says a review of perinatal care is underway.

Sydney Visit by Israeli President Sparks Mass Protests (Tens of thousands Protest)

Large protests broke out in Sydney after Israeli President Isaac Herzog arrived in Australia.

He was invited by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to attend a ceremony in solidarity with members of the Jewish community following the December attack at a Hanukkah festival near Bondi Beach.

However, what was intended to be a memorial and show of support for victims quickly turned into a major demonstration.

Thousands of protesters gathered, many expressing opposition to Israel’s actions in Gaza and carrying Palestinian flags and placards.

The demonstrations highlighted deep global divisions over the Gaza war, with participants saying the visit also brought attention to the humanitarian suffering in Gaza, while supporters of the ceremony emphasized the need to condemn violence and stand against attacks on civilians.

Authorities maintained security as tensions remained high during the visit.

Any attack on Russia will trigger “full-fledged military response,” Lavrov warns Europe

MOSCOW, Feb. 9 — Russia will respond with all available means in the event of an attack by Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with the NTV channel on Sunday.

“If Europe implements its threats to prepare for war against us and starts attacking the Russian Federation, the president has said it will not be a special military operation on our part.

It will be a full-fledged military response using all the means at our disposal in accordance with doctrinal documents on this matter,” Lavrov noted.

Russia is committed to finding a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis, Lavrov said during an annual press conference on Jan. 20, adding that Western countries had taken deliberate steps to undermine the efforts to reach peace agreements.

Leaders from Britain, France and Germany showed no interest in resolving the Ukraine crisis and were unwilling to reach peace agreements about it, he said, adding that statements from European figures made it clear that they were seriously preparing for a war with Russia.  (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)

Tragedy at Sea: 53 Migrants, Including Two Babies, Die After Boat Capsizes Off Libya

A devastating maritime disaster has unfolded off the coast of Libya, claiming the lives of 53 migrants, including two infants, after a rubber boat capsized on February 6.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that only two Nigerian women survived the ordeal, rescued by Libyan authorities.

The boat, carrying 55 migrants and refugees from various African countries, departed from Al-Zawiya, Libya, at around 11 p.m. on February 5 and sank approximately six hours later. The survivors are grappling with immense grief, having lost loved ones in the tragedy.

This incident brings the total number of migrant deaths on the Central Mediterranean route to at least 484 in 2026, with 375 fatalities reported in January alone.

The IOM emphasizes the need for stronger international cooperation to dismantle smuggling networks and provide safer migration pathways.

Cristiano Ronaldo ends strike

0

Superstar footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly decided to end his boycott of Al Nassr games.

The 41-year-old sat out two of the Saudi Pro League club’s matches — Friday’s 2-0 win over Al Ittihad as well as last week’s victory over Al Riyadh, despite raking in an immense £448,000-per-week salary.

Ronaldo is said to have been incensed by a lack of action and ambition in the transfer window, after Ronaldo watched league rival – and fellow Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) club – Al-Hilal tempt his former Real Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad.

According to sources, the Portugal captain said he will return to play for the match against Al Fateh on Feb. 14.

As per A Bola, Al-Nassr is thought to have reinstated certain powers to directors Jose Semedo and Simao Coutinho, both of whom are alleged to have had their wings clipped preventing the club from making moves during the January window.

Semedo was appointed chief executive at the club in July, and is a close friend of Ronaldo, while sporting director Coutinho was similarly appointed over the summer.

However, Ronaldo is also said to have been incensed over unequal treatment within the club itself, taking issue with a number of delays to salaries of staff.

Al-Nassr is thought to have settled outstanding payments in an additional attempt to see Ronaldo back on the pitch.

The former Manchester United man will now prepare for his return to action not with the squad in their AFC Cup away tie against Turkmenistan side Arkadag in midweek, but when the Saudi Pro League resumes on Saturday against Al-Fateh.

King Charles III ‘ready to support’ police investigation into his brother Andrew

King Charles III has said he stands ready to support any police investigation into his younger brother, Prince Andrew, amid continuing controversy linked to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, a spokesperson said: “The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct.

“While the specific claims in question are for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor to address, if we are approached by Thames Valley Police we stand ready to support them as you would expect.

“As was previously stated, Their Majesties’ thoughts and sympathies have been, and remain with, the victims of any and all forms of abuse.”

The statement came hours after the King was heckled during a public visit in Lancashire, where a member of the crowd shouted: “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?” The monarch did not respond, and the crowd reportedly drowned out the interruption.

The Palace confirmed it has not been approached by Thames Valley Police over claims that Andrew may have shared confidential documents from his time as the UK’s trade envoy with Epstein, a convicted s3x offender.

The development follows an earlier intervention by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, who issued a rare public statement expressing concern over recent revelations linked to the so-called Epstein files.

“I can confirm the Prince and Princess of Wales have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson said.

Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe described the statement as “unprecedented,” suggesting it signalled frustration within the family. He said it was rare for senior royals to make comments that could be interpreted as a public rebuke of another member.

Former BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt said the monarchy faced increasing pressure to take a firmer stance, arguing that failure to do so risked reputational damage.

Andrew’s association with Epstein has long drawn scrutiny. Newly released documents by the U.S. Department of Justice have renewed criticism, including material alleging that the former duke shared sensitive information and engaged in inappropriate conduct. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Among the claims contained in the files are allegations involving s3xual misconduct, including references to r@pe and an alleged request for a threes0me. Andrew has previously acknowledged poor judgment in his association with Epstein but denies any criminal activity.

Images released as part of the U.S. investigation appear to show him in Epstein’s New York residence. His legal representatives have maintained that he rejects any allegations of misconduct.

The latest controversy has added to mounting public and political pressure on the Royal Family as it seeks to distance itself from the scandal while expressing support for victims.

young woman jailed for posting n@ked images of her father’s mistress has been recalled to prison.

A young woman jailed for posting n@ked images of her father’s mistress has been recalled to prison.

Eleanor Brown, 26, shared the photos on an escort website in a drunken act of revenge for the affair, which almost destroyed her parents’ marriage.

Brown, from Morley, West Yorkshire, was sentenced to three years in prison, reduced to two years on appeal in October 2024, according to Mail Online.

She was released late last year on licence, with an electronic ankle tag fitted. But was recalled to prison last month, a Ministry of Justice source confirmed. It is not clear why.

But since her release, Brown has defiantly insisted: ‘I’m not sorry and never will be sorry.’ She has also posted frequently on social media, complaining about the conditions behind bars.

This weekend, she posted a message on her Instagram feed while claiming she had been prevented from having ‘contact with the outside world’ after being recalled to prison. It is unclear how she still has access to social media whilst in jail.

She said, under the heading: ‘Eleanor update!!!! I need you to tell my mum an officer has told me the prison will not let me speak to my mum, all excuses I have been told are excuses.

‘They will not facilitate contact with my mum because of what I have been recalled for, she needs to tell a solicitor. The won’t authorise her pin, they won’t let me have any contact with her. I have been told this, I also cannot get a legal call until tomorrow…please tell her asap. She needs to go to press with this. They won’t let me have contact with outside world!!!! What the f***.’

The affair between her father Geoff Brown, a former police officer, and his mistress was discovered when Eleanor was just 14, but 12 years later the fling came back to haunt them.

Geoff’s wife, Sarah, who still held resentment towards the woman who almost destroyed her marriage, sent sexual images of her to her daughter.

Eleanor then used the photos to create a profile on a s£x-for-sale site offering s£xual services for £5 and overnight stays for £10 causing the woman’s phone to blow up with messages.

In October 2024, Eleanor was jailed for three years with the judge claiming she had shown ‘staggering’ lack of remorse and exhibited ‘vindictive, selfish and vengeful behaviour’.

Now having been released from jail after serving half her sentence Eleanor, who said she was ‘put in prison for a joke’, claims she still has no regrets about sharing the images.

She said: ‘If I could turn the clocks back the only thing I’d do differently is put my phone in the bin. I would just bin the phone, that phone has got me in so much trouble.

‘But I am not remorseful. I do not hold any remorse in my body. I wouldn’t do it again – your nudes are all safe – but I am definitely not remorseful.’

Eleanor added in a video on TikTok: ‘I think the moral of the story is that I am not sorry, never will be sorry, will never do it again.

‘And [now] I’ve got a job, got a house, got a nice fella, got good friends, got a good family.’

The advert Eleanor had put on the Viva Street website was purportedly offering s£xual services and included a picture of the mistress.

She included the number of the woman’s husband who received 14 texts and eight calls from prospective clients in the space of half an hour of the ad being posted.

Epstein’s former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell seeks clemency in exchange for clearing Trump’s name

1

Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, has declined to answer questions from US House lawmakers but indicated she would be willing to testify that US President Donald Trump and former president Bill Clinton did nothing wrong in their ties to Epstein if her prison sentence were ended.

Maxwell made the position known during a closed-door video deposition with the House Oversight Committee, where she invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination while serving a 20-year sentence at a federal prison camp in Texas for sex trafficking.

Lawmakers are intensifying scrutiny into how Epstein, a powerful financier with elite connections, was able to abuse underage girls for years and whether others may have facilitated his crimes.

During the deposition, Maxwell appeared in a prison-issued brown shirt and repeatedly stated she was invoking “my Fifth Amendment right to silence,” according to video later released by the committee.

Her lawyer, David Oscar Markus, told lawmakers that “Maxwell is prepared to speak fully and honestly if granted clemency by President Trump.”

He added that both Trump and Clinton “are innocent of any wrongdoing,” saying “Ms. Maxwell alone can explain why, and the public is entitled to that explanation.”

Democrats strongly criticised the move, describing it as an attempt to bargain her way out of prison.

“It’s very clear she’s campaigning for clemency,” said Representative Melanie Stansbury of New Mexico.

When asked about Maxwell’s request, the White House referred to previous remarks by President Trump indicating that a pardon was not under consideration.

Several Republicans also rejected the idea outright.

“NO CLEMENCY. You comply or face punishment,” Representative Anna Paulina Luna wrote on social media. “You deserve JUSTICE for what you did you monster.”

Investigations so far have confirmed that both Trump and Clinton spent time with Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s, but neither has been credibly accused of criminal wrongdoing.

Maxwell is also seeking to overturn her conviction. While the Supreme Court rejected her appeal last year, she has since asked a federal judge to review what her lawyers describe as “substantial new evidence,” claiming her trial was tainted by constitutional violations.

She was transferred from a federal prison in Florida to a low-security prison camp in Texas last summer following two days of interviews with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

No one would watch Saudi League if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves – Toni Kroos

0

Former Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos has backed Cristiano Ronaldo following reports that the Al Nassr forward went on a brief strike, insisting the Saudi Pro League owes its global relevance to the Portuguese star.

Kroos was reacting to Ronaldo’s decision to miss two matches after reportedly growing frustrated by the lack of major signings during the winter transfer window.

Ronaldo did not feature in Al Nassr’s match against Al-Riyadh on the day the transfer window closed and also missed the subsequent clash against Al-Ittihad.

Speaking on the situation, Kroos said the league’s rise in global attention was solely down to Ronaldo’s arrival.

“The Saudi league is a strange phenomenon. No one had heard of it before the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, and now they disrespect the man who put them on the world map,” he said.

He added, “If Cristiano leaves tomorrow, this league will lose all its charm. Without Ronaldo, no one would see the Saudi league.”

GOD HAS APPOINTED MUNDUBILE TO RULE ZAMBIA – MKUSHI SOUTH MP

6

GOD HAS APPOINTED MUNDUBILE TO RULE ZAMBIA – MKUSHI SOUTH MP

GOD has appointed Brian Mundubile to rule this country, says Mkushi South PF MP Davies Chisopa.

Chisopa, who is Mundubile’s campaign manager, has insisted that the Tonse Alliance being led by Mundubile is the only legitimate one.

Addressing party members in Lusaka recently, Chisopa said Mundubile would ultimately be elected as Republican President in August 2026.

“Firstly, I want to thank you all for being here and I want to acknowledge the leadership that has ensured that you’re all safe here. Well done ‘Black Apple’ (PF Lusaka Province Security Chairman Joe Nyondo). I want to tell you about Tonse. When [Edgar] Lungu saw that PF was in [Robert] Chabinga’s hands, he said since PF has been grabbed, we will form Tonse. Those that formed Tonse include Zumani Zimba, secretary general, Sean Tembo and Danny Pule,” Chisopa said in Bemba.

“Till date, the Tonse that elected Brian Mundubile, we’ve heard people saying, ‘that Tonse is illegitimate’. Before Lungu died, he appointed Brian Mundubile to be in charge of all members of parliament within Tonse. After Mundubile was elected as Tonse Chairman, he now wants to contest as President. The past elections we had, Mundubile was elected as Tonse president and that’s the legitimate Tonse. Let them not lie to you that there’s another Tonse faction. The only Tonse we have is the one that elected Brian Mundubile as president and [he will] ultimately be elected as Republican President in August 2026”.

Chisopa said Given Lubinda and other PF factions were welcome to join Mundubile’s camp.

He further urged everyone to support Mundubile as he heads to State House in August.

“I want to ask Given Lubinda, if he has a conscience, if he loved Lungu, if he loved Tonse, he must accept that the only legitimate Tonse is Brian Mundubile’s. All those saying Brian Mundubile’s Tonse [is illegal], the entire leadership present here, all the youths here, go and mobilise and talk to the people and tell them to follow Brian Mundubile’s Tonse because he is the one contesting as president on August 13, 2026. He has to go to State House. We are fighting for one thing. We want to take Brian Mundubile to State House. If Lubinda has run out of power, we will receive him. They say ‘being ahead doesn’t guarantee arriving at your destination first’, but we’re ahead. But what we’re telling the other Tonse faction, we will welcome them,” said Chisopa.

“Time will come when we will welcome everyone because Mundubile’s doors are always open. Everyone belonging to the other PF faction, we will welcome them all. Leadership is how you unite people. From the time Lubinda arrived, he is always chasing people. Today, he chases this MPs, today he chases MCCs, it should not be like that. ‘Keeping a dog requires wisdom’. Even when Michael Sata won, he used to say ‘there are several bedrooms in my father’s house’. At this time, God has appointed Brian Mundubile to rule this country. Everyone must accept and support him. Those standing for the truth, including the opposition, the factions we have, we will welcome them. Even as you youths go round to mobilise people, we don’t want violence”.

Chisopa was accompanied by Nakonde PF MP Lukas Simumba, Mufulira MP Golden Mwila, Japhen Mwakalombe, among others.

Can Mathews Mohan stand for an elective public office? Yes he can because he received a full pardon- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba writes:

Can he Stand?

A presidential pardon is a constitutional prerogative of mercy exercised by the President under Article 97, allowing for the release, reduction of sentences (commutation), or substitution of punishments for convicted individuals.

It is commonly used to release inmates based on good conduct or to commemorate national events, such as independence or freedom days.

The power is granted under Article 97 of the Zambian Constitution, which allows the President to pardon, respite, or substitute penalties.

This can include full pardon, reduced sentences (e.g., life to 35 years), or commutation of the death penalty.

In August 2021, Mathews Mohan, the former Managing Director of Inktech, was released from prison after receiving a presidential pardon from outgoing President Edgar Lungu.

Mohan was originally sentenced to death in 2011 for the murder of Sajid Itowala, a prominent Lusaka businessman and director of Cyclone Hardware.

His death sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment before the final pardon.

Reports indicated that Mohan’s pardon was based on his good conduct and reform while incarcerated. During his time at Mukobeko Maximum Security Prison, he notably initiated an agricultural project that provided employment for both inmates and non-inmates.

Can he stand for an elective public office? Yes he can because he received a full pardon.

Grief is Not Immunity: The Dalitso Lungu Forfeiture & Grief Politics

🇿🇲 EDITORIAL | Grief is Not Immunity: The Dalitso Lungu Forfeiture & Grief Politics

On Monday, Zambia’s Economic and Financial Crimes Court delivered a ruling that has immediately spilled beyond the courtroom and into the country’s already tense political atmosphere.

The Court ordered the forfeiture to the State of assets linked to Dalitso Lungu, the son of late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, after finding that the properties were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime under Zambia’s forfeiture framework.

The forfeited portfolio is substantial by any measure. It includes dozens of motor vehicles and more than twenty parcels of land and real estate, with the total value widely cited at over K24 million. The application was brought by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Gilbert Phiri, through a non conviction based forfeiture process, a legal mechanism that allows the State to recover suspected tainted assets without a prior criminal conviction, provided statutory thresholds are met.

The judgement was delivered by judges sitting in the Economic and Financial Crimes Division, including Pixxie Yangailo, Annie Ononuju, and Ian Mabolobolo, according to reports circulating in Lusaka’s legal and media circles.

The Court’s reasoning, as summarised in the public reporting, turned on a central issue that often defines these cases: lawful source.

Investigators pointed to an absence of tax compliant income streams capable of credibly explaining the acquisition and maintenance of such an asset base. The Court noted concerns around nil tax returns and the failure to establish verifiable earnings, concluding that the evidentiary burden placed on the interested parties had not been discharged in line with the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act.

This legal conclusion, however, is only the first layer of the national story.

The second layer is political emotion.

Across WhatsApp groups, PF aligned pages, and opposition networks, the ruling has been interpreted through the language of mourning and persecution rather than through the language of compliance and proof. Supporters argue that the timing is insensitive, that the former president remains unburied, and that the State is humiliating a bereaved family.

Others have framed the forfeiture as a deliberate strategy to financially cripple the opposition, alleging that the governing party is weaponising institutions to bankrupt political rivals ahead of 2026.

Some reactions have bordered on the surreal.

The argument being advanced in parts of the public discourse is that a former head of state “cannot fail” to gift his son dozens of vehicles and extensive property, as though public office automatically creates private dynastic entitlement. In that framing, the scale of wealth becomes normalised by proximity to power.

This is precisely where Zambia’s democratic maturity is being tested.

A republic cannot operate on inherited immunity.

Grief is real, and the burial impasse is a national embarrassment that requires dignity and resolution. But grief cannot become a constitutional shelter for unexplained accumulation. Mourning does not suspend the obligation to account.

If assets were legitimately acquired, the law provides the evidentiary pathways. Gifts have documentation. Transfers have records. Businesses have audited accounts. Wealth has tax footprints. In modern governance, legitimacy is not asserted through sentiment. It is demonstrated through paper.

The deeper issue here is not merely Dalitso Lungu.

It is the political economy of the PF era that continues to haunt the state.

Zambia entered unprecedented debt distress under the Patriotic Front, contracting major external liabilities with limited visible developmental conversion. The country defaulted. Restructuring followed. Citizens absorbed the austerity. Social sectors tightened. The macroeconomic bill arrived.

And yet, alongside that national indebtedness, Zambia also witnessed an explosion of elite consumption: expensive vehicles, sudden property empires, land allocations, and opaque enrichment networks that were never fully reconciled with public salaries or declared business outputs.

This contradiction is at the heart of Zambia’s poverty trap.

A country cannot remain permanently in debt while allowing politically connected private wealth to operate as an untouchable parallel economy. That is how institutions rot. That is how public trust collapses. That is how development becomes a slogan rather than a lived outcome.

The persecution narrative must therefore be approached with care, but also with clarity.

Accountability is not persecution. Due process is not revenge. Asset recovery is not “grabbing” when it is anchored in statute and adjudicated by a court.

At the same time, the State must understand its own burden.

Anti corruption enforcement must be consistent, not selective. It must be professional, not theatrical. It must not appear timed for political effect. Institutions must speak through evidence, procedure, and restraint, not through triumphalism or factional signalling.

Zambia needs a republic where no family is above scrutiny, and no institution is above neutrality.

This moment should not be reduced to PF versus UPND.

It should be understood as a national reckoning with a long running governance question: do leaders and their families treat Zambia as a kingdom, or do they submit to Zambia as a republic?

If wealth was gained through dubious means, it was never theirs. It was borrowed from the public future. It was extracted from a country that remains poor. It is exactly why accountability must be pursued, regardless of surname, party, or grief.

Zambia cannot build prosperity on silence.

It can only build it on law.

MUNDUBILE HAS REFINED WHAT MILES SAMPA AND ROBERT CHABINGA FAILED TO DO

MUNDUBILE HAS REFINED WHAT MILES SAMPA AND ROBERT CHABINGA FAILED TO DO

By Special Correspondent

State House has refined the method and tactics to destroy the Patriotic Front.

State House has been under serious diplomatic pressure to give back the Patriotic Front to legitimate owners in order to secure the-free-and-fair elections tag in the August 2026 elections.

To this end, the Patriotic Front is expected to be given back to the original owner through the Judgement to be delivered by Judge Conceptor Chinyanwa Zulu on 25th February 2026.

In this Judgment, Miles Sampa reconciled with the Edgar Lungu group and signed a Consent Agreement to hand back the Party to the original PF.

However opinions at State House are divided with others fearing that this will disrupt the status of Robert Chabinga and his accomplices enjoying financial benefits at Parliament in the saga

These officials are pushing that the Judge throws out the Consent Judgement on technicality to let the Lubinda appeal the judgement.

State House is determined and is planning to secure President Hakainde Hichilema’s second term in the 2026 elections, easily and in the first round.

The State House officials have learnt from the failed tactics and mistakes they made on Matero MP, Miles Sampa and the totally ineffective Mafinga MP, Robert Chabinga to destroy the PF.

Mporokoso MP, Brian Mundubile is the perfect vehicle. He has the support of PF MPs and through him, it is easy to destroy the PF party structures that have been intact since 2021.

Mundubile doesn’t strike as an open UPND Project like Miles Sampa and Robert Chabinga were, but can easily fit to appear as a PF leader.

Do you wonder that at the centre of Mundubile’s campaign is Zumani Zimba, who is always with Amb. George Kanyamula Zulu and State House aid, Levi Ngoma? The two are Hichilema’s top political enforcers.

Why is both Robert Chabinga and Brian Mundubile guarded by officers from the Zambia Police VIP Protection unit?

Mundubile is an effective and perfect State House vehicle to divide the PF.

With this plan, they hope that there will be no original PF by May 2026 and only a shell will be held by the Given Lubinda camp.

Mundubile will be allowed to stand on the FDD Party with the sole aim of dividing the Opposition vote but also giving semblance of a free-and-fair election.

Mundubile is serving two purposes. He will destroy the PF while sanitizing Hichilema’s image.

Hichilema can now say the infighting in the PF is internal and has nothing to do with him.

Currently State House has deployed former Secretary General of the PF, Davies Mwila to the Copperbelt, former District Commissioner, Abiud Munyevu Kawangu to Northwestern Province, former Copperbelt Minister Japhet Mwakalombe to Western Province, Chomba Chipili to Northern Province, Umozi Kumawa leader and PF cadre, Chanoda Ngwira to Eastern Province.

Their sole aim is to dismantle the PF structures and recruit them to Mundubile’s camp before the Lubinda camp can hold their announcedGeneral Conference.

Meanwhile, State House has recruited FDD Acting President Chifumu Banda and Lusaka senior lawyer, Eric Silwamba, to resolve the matter regarding the funeral and burial of the late President, Edgar Lungu.

Chifumu Banda is also expected to hand-over the FDD Presidency to Mundubile, who will be the flag bearer of their Tonse Alliance.

The FDD has received general acceptance among PF members as a special purpose vehicle after the party won the Chawama By-election and performed very well in Kasama mayoral election.

The PF MPs who voted for Bill 7 will be rewarded by standing on the FDD ticket under Mundubile.

Watch closely what is happening in PF, you will see as the blocks fall in place.

YOU HAVE BEEN CHEATED ENOUGH – M’MEMBE

YOU HAVE BEEN CHEATED ENOUGH – M’MEMBE

WAKE up and govern yourselves because you have been cheated enough, People’s Pact Movement presidential candidate Dr. Fred M’membe has told Zambians.

Dr. M’membe warned that unless there was a change in the governance syle, people’s living standards would not improve.

Speaking on Flava FM in Kitwe, Dr M’membe said Zambians continued to suffer poverty as a result of poor leadership.

“This poverty we are in will not end; jobs will not be found, those who are ruling us, those who are benefiting from mining, will not give up so easily. They will fight back, they will have their own people in the political arena, whom they are going to give money to come and protect their interests,” Dr M’membe said.

He said Zambians should fight for their second independence, which was fighting poverty, injustices, tribalism and regionalism brought by those in power.

Dr M’membe said the fight for the second independence was a fight for economic emancipation.
“We are in the second Chachacha [freedom struggle]. What is needed is to reclaim Zambia from imperialists who are enriching themselves. We can’t continue with these high levels of unemployment, but to change this, a politician alone can’t manage; a politician alone is not the only leader who is in this country. There are other leaders, there are clergymen, there are chiefs, there are business leaders, there are trade union leaders, we also have professional leaders, all these, if they are not involved, we are not going anywhere,” Dr M’membe said.
Dr M’membe said the responsibility to change the governance system rested with everyone, not only politicians in the People’s Pact Movement.

“Even you journalists if you are not involved in changing the governance system forget about living well, otherwise you will be getting paid K500 per month, you will not have adverts on radio stations because all these small businesses are collapsing, wake up time to govern yourselves has come, time to work for yourselves has come,” he said.

Dr M’membe said Zambians had been cheated and dribbled enough and it was time for them to wake up. He said no one was going to liberate Zambians from poverty if citizens did not join the liberation struggle.

“What you can’t do for yourself, forget it, nobody will do it for you. These investors you are bringing here they are not coming to work for us, they are coming to work for themselves for their own benefit and they will defend the benefits they are gaining from this country today.

“They will even sponsor politicians and you start praising them and voting for their people because they have put in so much money and advertising on television, on radio, social media in the newspapers, they give them money and they are the ones you vote for. Your leaders who care for you, your true leaders you have neglected them, wake up, you have been cheated enough,” said Dr M’membe.
