2021 elections a test for Zambia – Mujimanzovu

0

[By Charles Tembo in Solwezi]

SENIOR chief Mujimanzovu of the Kaonde speaking people in Solwezi says the 2021 general elections will be a test for the country.

Mujimanzovu warns politicians that “the same youths you send to fight will one day beat you”.

The traditional leader said this when Democratic Party president Harry Kalaba called on him at his palace on Friday afternoon.

He said for once the 2021 campaign period should be for ideas and not sending youths to fight.

Mujimanzovu said time had come to unite the country through love and peace.

“Yes, next year we are going for elections. This 2021, is a year for test for the country. But we need to maintain peace. We can’t force leadership on the people. People will make their decisions based on what they are going through,” Mujimanzovu said.

He said politics should be about ideas and not intimidating each other.

“Now for me, I will welcome anyone who comes here. Politics is about ideas. It is not to intimidate each other. You need to sell your ideas to the people. So if people believe in you then you will have them. If people have not seen anything then how do you expect them to vote for you? Just sell your ideas and people will decide,” he said. “My chiefdom will embrace everyone – there is no segregation here. This is a public road and we can’t choose who should travel on this road. I receive you as my subject. I want to see all of you have the freedom to move around and interact with the people in a free manner. Whoever wins then he becomes our President. Let us try to restrain from using our children to fight and insult each other.”

The traditional leader said he is touched when he sees youths used for violence.

“Let us embrace each other. Love one another because we are all Zambians. As we differ, let us not fight. We want a Zambia that is well for us all to live in,” said Mujimanzovu. “As you aspire for higher office, put the interest of the people first. We need to conduct decent politics. We don’t have to bring politics of dividing the people. Stop it.”

And Kalaba said Zambia was never short of leaders.

“Zambia is never short of leaders. We will not dwell on calling this one that and that. Ours is to tell the truth and the people what we want to do,” said Kalaba.

Prophet Bushiri Neither Shocked Nor Surprised With Media Reported Rape Warrant Of Arrests

PROPHET BUSHIRI NEITHER SHOCKED NOR SURPRISED WITH MEDIA REPORTED RAPE WARRANT OF ARRESTS

23.11.20

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lilongwe: I am neither shocked nor surprised with media reported warrants of arrest because they are just part of the larger crusade to try and persecute my name in the media by a team of same white police officers notably from the Hawks.

For the record, it is trite that when a warrant of arrest is issued, law enforcement agencies proceed to effect arrest; not leaking information to the media as my case has always been with these white police officers.

These are white police officers that I opened extortion and corruption cases against in 2018 after they tried, unsuccessfully, to extort about R10 million from me. At the time, they were clear and on record saying that “failure to pay the R10million would result in immediate retaliation.”

Despite confirming opening of such cases, South African Authorities haven’t taken any relevant steps to bring to book these white police officers.

Instead, these officers were let loose, riding on the back state resources, and embarked on a crusade to cover up their crimes by launching and issuing numerous warrants of arrests against me.

For the record I reiterate and confirm that the very same white police officers are same police officers who arrested me in Feb 2019. As is not enough they are again same white police officers who arrested me in October 2020, and, again, without any official confirmation I bet it’s the same police officers.

I have been advised—which advice I accept—that rape cases are not handled by hawks but South African Police (SAPS) designated unit known as Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS).

I had launched complaints on how Hawks were recruiting girls to fabricate charges of rape and to date no reprieve for me. Some of these were confirmed via various videos of those who came back to confess such wrongful conduct.

During my public address on Saturday, 21 Nov 2020, I pertinently and persistently stated that as long as these officers are not recused, there is no way I can receive fair trial in South Africa because those white officers are surely and evidently so driven by vengeance, not justice.

That is why these fresh warrants of arrest are neither a shock nor a surprise because they only confirm every detail I shared with regards to spates of injustice i left in South Africa.

But above all, as a revered man of God, a husband and father who understands that rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I stand and believes in.

As Keen as I am to clear my name, I unequivocally refuse to feed the media spectacle created by white police officers bent to cover up their crimes. My conscious is very clear and so it shall remain.

MORE CONFUSION ROCKS UPND IN MONGU…as Bernard Mpundu cancels district elections without explanation

MORE CONFUSION ROCKS UPND IN MONGU…as Bernard Mpundu cancels district elections without explanation

By Kamuti Muyambela

UPND Mongu district intra-party election was yesterday afternoon cancelled abruptly due to confusion surrounding the two factions that emerged.

But incumbent district chairperson Matakala Nyambe who is defending the seat expressed disappointment at the cancellation, saying no tangible reasons wer given by the commissioner Bernard Mpundu.

Sources within the party structures in Mongu disclosed that Naymbe in collusion with another Nyambe (from the party secretariat) had devised a plan to alter election guidelines and regulations in order to disadvantage other competitors.

The sources disclosed that the duo had fused some ineligible members from other wards into the delegates that were supposed to elect the district committee.

“This scenario has never existed in all the district intra party elections that has been held throughout the country so far and it defies all reasonable logic as to why the rules have to finally change with the only four remaining districts in the province country wide,” sources explained. “As if that is not enough, the desperate outgoing district chairperson (referring to Nyambe) has brought his entire loosing constituency committee to Mongu to come and participate in these elections against the laid down party guidelines as to who should be part of the electoral college in these elections and we (are) reliably informed that he has issued instructions to his group to cause violence should they be stopped to participate.”

Sources said when all was set for the election to take place, Mpundu who the party had chosen as commissioner to preside over the elections, cancelled without giving tangible reasons.
Sources explained that Mpundu tactfully did so in order to avoid acrimony among contestants.

And Nyambe disputed accusations that he and a Mr Nyambe at the party secretariat had altered guidelines and regulations governing the holding of intraparty elections.
He said whoever peddled such accusations was being malicious.
Nyambe then explained what transpired prior – which could potentially have triggered the cancellation of the elections.

“…the problem is that there is a wrangle. There are two committees in Nalikwanda. What happened is that Nalikwanda people were supposed to be at the election. But whichever case Gary Nkombo (party chairperson for elections) issued a letter earlier, saying he only recognises one of the committees. But you know there are people who want to recontest their seats. So, today (yesterday) we were supposed to have the district election and those two committees came, and the vowed that they have to vote. So, the commissioner (Mpundu) said, hold on, according to our guidelines, when we attain 50 percent of the electoral college we are supposed to hold the election,” Nyambe continued. “So that’s how they walked out. You know some positions were unopposed. And a few minutes (later), the commissioner said, ‘I have received instructions to cancel the elections’. So that is that.”

On accusations that he and the other Nyambe were the architect of the confusion to an extent that they even altered the provisions governing the holding of intraparty elections, Nyambe described as baseless and unfounded such allegations. He wondered how he could alter provisions that were enshrined in the party constitution

“No one can manipulate the constitution. Find the constitution of the UPND and go to article number 35. For someone to say that Mr Nyambe is manipulating (the constitution), I find it so difficult to understand that kind of a person. I am not defending Mr Nyambe, even the commissioner who is here, yesterday, we went through the constitution and we found exactly what is patterning (here). In every organisation, the constitution is the supreme law, in this case, UPND has a constitution that governs everyone around here. How do I cause confusion?” he wondered. “In this election, I am a candidate and I barely speak. I am a candidate aspiring for the chairmanship. I am defending my position. So how do I cause confusion because I barely speak? Despite we share the same name, Mr Nyambe is not my relative. These are the guidelines that we are using everywhere.”

He expressed disappoint at the cancellation of the elections, especially that Mpundu could not even give them the next date for the polls.

“I am not satisfied. I am disappointed. It’s like…if something does not suit you…I mean, I just don’t know how to say it. It’s like you say, if this is not done, then I will walk away. We said, okay, we have to go by the constitution; we have to do what is right. (Are) those people who came in the morning, who came at 07:00hours waiting for the election (foolish)?…(for you to) say, no, I am not going to finish (conducting) this election? Surely? With all honesty? With this, I am not satisfied. He didn’t say the cause, because he was receiving calls. Whoever was calling him, I should just assume that this person has got interest in Mongu,” Nyambe assumed. “So, my appeal to my leaders is that lets uphold justice, lets sober up. We should look at UPND with a bigger picture because we are struggling for UPND to form government to alleviate poverty and fix the economy. The reasons for cancelling the elections were not justifiable. He is just said he has been instructed not to conduct the elections.”
And Mpundu when contacted declined to comment.

Simataa Accuses ECZ of Publishing Fake Voter Registration Data to Smear Butter on the Faces of UPND

It’s Cooked Rubbish!

Simataa Accuses ECZ of Publishing Fake Voter Registration Data to Smear Butter on the Faces of UPND

—————————————————————
By CIC Reporter | 23 Nov 2020 | Lusaka
—————————————————————
Firebrand UPND aspiring councillor for Kamwala Ward 5 Mainda Simataa has described the latest updates from ECZ on voters registration as cooked rubbish – “it’s what we call GIGO in computer language – garbage in garbage out. Which Zambian is foolish enough to trust a pathological and shameless liar like Patrick Nshindano?” asked Simataa.

“Look here, Lusaka province is historically and scientifically a fixed reference point for our data analytics team because it leads in all the metrics (see figure below) , and the fact that after 2 weeks of voter registration Lusaka is trailing behind Southern, Copperbelt and eastern provinces at 165,782 registered voters is nothing short of electoral blasphemy – it’s like downgrading Jesus from the status of son of God to a mere alterboy in the catholic church. The ECZ data is a fire alarm telling us that ECZ won’t hit our projected estimate of 1,455,113 registered voters for Lusaka, and 9 million nationwide in the remaining 2 weeks!”

Simataa has accused the ECZ and Nshindano of trying to smear butter on the UPND faces by showing that Southern Province is leading in terms of registered voters – “no, that data doesn’t impress us at all, we’re a national party and not a regional party – we must win in at least 6 provinces for HH to form government in 2021. Besides, our projected final figure for Southern Province is 1,064,800, so what is there to be happy about Nshindano’s cooked 219,488 with 2 weeks remaining, when we were supposed to hit the half a million mark by now?”

And Simataa who is also UPND Kabwata Constituency Information and Publicity Secretary has maintained that the numbers being published by ECZ cannot be trusted nor relied upon because they do not collerate with current electoral trends and data. “These numbers only prove one thing – rigging is in progress via suppression of voter registration numbers where UPND is set to get the highest votes – Lusaka, and we won’t accept any data showing that Lusaka is NOT leading the pack going forward”.

Political Violence A Sign Of Lack Of Leadership, Says JCTR

0

By George Zulu
The political violence the country is experiencing is a sign of leadership deficit, the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection has said.

JCTR a faith based organization has observed with sadness the increasing political violence in the country ahead of next years elections, adding that if the situation is not addressed now, the country risks losing the world’s reputation of a heaven for peace and stability.

JCTR executive director Fr. Alex Muyebe says it is disheartening to see people from the same community engaging in physical violence and fights emanating from the political differences.

“The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) is calling on both the ruling and opposition political party leaders to immediately put an end to political violence in this Zambia. Mother Zambia has a hard earned reputation as a peaceful and friendly country. This reputation now hangs in the balance as we increasingly continue to experience unwarranted cases of political violence which are doing irreparable damage to our long standing motto of “One Zambia, One Nation.”

It is disheartening to see people from the same community engaging in physical violence and fights emanating from the political differences. Clashes between party cadres must never be allowed to take place in this country because we are one people who must always respect and accommodate each other’s political opinions. Political leaders must promote politics of mutual tolerance and mutual respect and must lead by example, ” Fr. Muyebe said.

Fr. Muyebe has since has since employed political leaders to work together and end the evil attendance of violence.

“Political leaders must work together to stamp out this cancer of political violence that is slowly but surely spreading in the political fabric of this nation. The current politically charged environment in Zambia is being fueled by polarized media, institutionalization of cadreism, proliferation of hate speeches, cheap culture of handouts, promotion of geo-centric and ethnocentric-politics, and erosion of confidence in the electoral process,” he said.

According to Fr. Muyebe, politics must be a tool of service for social, cultural, and economic progress of all the people.

He notes that in a country where people pride the, selves of being a Christian nation, it is shameful that incidents of political violence have become common occurrence.

“The objective of all forms of governance and power relations must be to foster the common good of the citizens. Political violence, on the contrary, is characterised by both physical and psychological acts aimed at injuring or intimidating the other, and in some instances occasioning deaths. In a country where we pride ourselves of being a Christian nation, we should be ashamed that incidents of political violence are now becoming a common occurrence. It is worrisome that political party leaders in this country are not ashamed of exploiting or taking advantage of poor, unemployed and vulnerable youths to their advantage. Unemployed youths are being used as tools of violence that can easily be sacrificed like pawn pieces in a game of chess. It is also sad to note that some youths are allowing themselves to be brainwashed and to sacrifice their human dignity at the altar of political hooliganism. It is high time young people woke up and be in charge of their destiny,” he said.

“JCTR is therefore calling on all political leaders in Zambia to work together and take concrete steps to stem out the culture of political violence by addressing the root causes listed above. Politicians must take a lead in practicing and promoting politics of mutual tolerance and mutual respect. Mere public denunciation or condemnation of political violence alone will not stop violence. Leaders must teach by example. This country needs leaders that are capable of engaging in a constructive dialogue and honest reconciliation. Zambia needs leaders that are capable of putting the interest of the nation ahead of their personal interest or their cronies’ interest,” he said.

How fugitive Bushiri escaped South Africa: Details emerge

…Major 1 applied cosmetics like a cold war spy agent to change his appearance

…Plan to smuggle Bushiri ‘involved’ Malawian ‘intelligence officials’

Revealed! Details of how fugitive Shepherd Bushiri left South Africa together with his alleged partner-in-crime have emerged in an investigative report published earlier today.

The details, compiled through a comprehensive work of investigation, have further implicated President Lazarus Chakwer’s regime and the country’s intelligence officials.

Published by the Sunday Independent, the investigative report claims that the two fugitives who are arguably the Most Wanted in South Africa as of today applied cosmetics like spy agents in the cold-war era to escape detection.

The paper further claims in its report that the Malawi government issued the two fugitives new diplomatic passports before being smuggled in President Chakwera’s chartered presidential jet.

Chakwera’s role

The Sunday Independent says President Chakwera was aware of the plot and gave it a greenlight.

“Fugitive prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, were issued with diplomatic passports bearing decoy names and applied with cosmetic facial changes before being smuggled out of South Africa in Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera’s hired jet” reads the report, citing intelligence sources privy to the investigations of how Bushiri vanished in South Africa only to appear in Malawi coincidentally on the same date that Chakwera landed at the Kamuzu International Airport from his 2-day-trip in South Africa.

The Bushiris were issued with “diplomatic passports bearing decoy names and applied with cosmetic facial changes before being smuggled out of South Africa in Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera’s hired jet”.

The couple is wanted for fraud, theft and money laundering about K6 billion in two separate cases.

“Bushiri left in Chakwera’s plane last Friday [13 November 2020] following an operation planned by Malawian intelligence officials and executed by its embassy in Pretoria”, claims the paper citing South Africa’s security cluster – including diplomatic and military intelligence sources, police officers, and bureaucrats.

In its investigation, the paper discovered that Bushiri and his wife “were fetched from their home in Centurion in a Malawian embassy vehicle ahead of a scheduled 6pm flight as Chakwera wrapped up his meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa”.

“They were driven to Air Force Base Waterkloof as part of an elaborate plot that involved senior Malawian and South African politicians and government officials”.

It is further alleged that the plot kicked off with whisking off Bushiri’s children back to Malawi and that the plan was hatched three weeks ago.

The paper further reveals that Bushiri decided to leave South Africa after his lawyers had told him that the National Prosecuting Authority had a strong case of fraud and money-laundering against him and that he faced a minimum 15-year jail term.

Chakwera’s visit is believed to have been a decoy to smuggle the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church leader and his wife, Prophetess Mary Bushiri.

Both Malawi and South Africa have dismissed the allegations as baseless. The two government insists that the two fugitives did not leave South Africa aboard Chakwera’s hired presidential jet.

The Escape Plan: Mbalame ibwelere kuchitsa

While citing what it calls “highly placed sources”, this is how the paper details how the fugitive Bushiri popularly known as Major 1 were smuggled together with his wife:

1. Bushiri approached Chakwera for help through the Malawian embassy; Chakwera instructed the embassy to hatch a plan to save Bushiri and his multi-million rand assets or smuggle him out of South Africa;

2. Malawian intelligence operatives at the embassy considered options, including smuggling him through Mozambique, whisking him off in the presidential jet, or lobbying for Mary’s acquittal and a lesser sentence for Bushiri;

3. After spending two weeks in jail, Bushiri was given the options and flatly refused the SA jail option; Chakwera, through the Malawian embassy, then lobbied the Ramaphosa administration for assistance;

4. The Malawians banked on their constitution which protects diplomats and bars extraditions unless the suspect was sought for murder or treason.

5. Some members of the judiciary were then lobbied to ensure Bushiri was released on “soft” bail with less stringent conditions, no attachment of his bank accounts and assets except the R5m property in Centurion;

6. Both governments agreed to approve Chakwera’s request for a state visit and use it to smuggle Bushiri out via Air Force Base Waterkloof;

7. An advance team was then sent to SA to finalise logistical preparations for Bushiri’s escape;

8. The Bushiris were fetched from their home in Centurion in a Malawian embassy vehicle and issued with false diplomatic passports and had facial cosmetic changes applied on them;

9. However, SA police, military and diplomatic officers at Waterkloof raised questions about three passengers – two males and a female – whose names did not appear on Chakwera’s preapproved passenger list;

10. With rumours that the Bushiris failed to report to the police station, the officials got more suspicious as the height of two passengers resembled that of Bushiri and Mary;

11. A fracas ensued as the military police wanted to detain the three passengers, but the Malawians sought Department of International Relations and Co-operation Minister Naledi Pandor’s intervention;

12. Pandor dispatched officials to sort out the problem and they agreed the three suspicious passengers would be allowed to board Chakwera’s plane at OR Tambo; Chakwera’s plane made a stopover at OR Tambo, 25km from Waterkloof, to pick up the advanced team which included the Bushiris;

12. Bushiri and Mary, with facial cosmetics to disguise them, were whisked onto the place through the diplomatic entrance; Three members of the advance team were left behind to secure and dispose of Bushiri’s assets;

13. The plane left SA shortly after 10pm last Friday and landed in Malawi after midnight;

14. The Malawian government ordered a media blackout at the airport before Chakwera’s arrival;

15. The Bushiris disembarked from the plane immediately after Chakwera and his wife;

16. Some journalists managed to capture footage of the Bushiris disembarking; but the Malawian intelligence later confiscated and classified it as top secret;

17. In SA, intelligence officers and some government officials lobbied or spun journalists and editors to blame the country’s porous borders and corruption for Bushiri’s escape.

The Cold War Spy

A highly placed source said: “Even though the passports were not saying Bushiri, he was using a decoy name. Their surnames are not Bushiris but they look like the Bushiris, with few cosmetic changes here and there.

“A bit on Bushiri’s face and on the wife as well there were few cosmetic changes. Those cosmetic changes fitted the profiles of those people on the passports. The fracas started, the back and forth, the minister of Dirco and by that time it was now obvious to the ordinary men and women in enforcement that no, no it appears here there might be some smuggling taking place.

“They searched and searched, luggage to luggage but they couldn’t find the luggage with Bushiri’s name. But there were people, with diplomatic passports, who looked like them. The face does not fit this one of Bushiri but the height and eyes do somehow look the same.

“But then the government decided that these people that are suspicious, who the military intelligence said they must be detained to ascertain their bonafides, must be released.

“Then the Malawian president and the Malawian foreign minister started putting pressure on us, saying you have never treated us this way, we feel like you are ill-treating us. There is nothing sinister there. These are my people, they came here first. At OR Tambo they used the diplomatic entrance to go to the tarmac. But even on that side, money exchanged hands.”

Jetting Out of South Africa and Landing in Malawi

Another source said the Malawian intelligence’s plan involved getting Bushiri’s children back to that country first to ensure they were not used as bait.

“The first conclusion was, let’s get the kids here. The kids must be in Malawi before the operation starts. They were testing the waters with this operation so that if it failed, they were going to smuggle him through Mozambique. They would give him his passport and he would cross from Mozambique to Malawi. The other option was, remain here and let the wife come home, you face the music and we would intervene diplomatically for a lesser sentence. But the guy refused and told the president that, no, he wants out. He does not even want to be in jail here. The two weeks he spent there are hell,” the security cluster insider.

A military source said members of the army were concerned about the government’s role in the matter because it sent a wrong message about the country.

“Everybody is surprised. The statement is issued by the Malawians, not by our foreign affairs. Why would a plane fly for 25km and land again, with such huge costs. What was at stake? And why has the government not sent a diplomatic note of protest to Malawi? Why did the NPA not appeal the release of Bushiri on bail because it was obvious he was a flight risk?” the source asked.

A diplomatic source said South Africans should make peace with the fact that Bushiri was not coming back to face justice.

Malawi24 could not independently verify the allegations the Sunday Independent highlights in its investigative report.

As of press time, fugitive Bushiri who was released indefinitely on Tuesday this week just a day following his arrest had not commented on the report. He however distanced President Chakwera in his arrest.

He handed himself to the Malawi police together with his wife just in time before an Interpol Red Notice on them could be activated.

The kingmaker: Tonse Alliance & the diplomatic passport saga

Meanwhile, a South African politician alleged this week that Bushiri financed Chakwera’s presidential bid with his Tonse Alliance partners.

Soon after his arrest, Bushiri announced hiring some of the ‘Tonse Alliance’ lawyers who successfully secured the nullification of the 2019 Malawi presidential elections.

Chakwera won the ‘re-run’ which was held in June this year.

Neither Chakwera nor his Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has commented on these allegations.

Additional details that Malawi24 has also indicate that Bushiri has strong ties with both the ruling MCP and the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The ECG leader and his wife were first issued diplomatic passports by the DPP regime allegedly following an order by the then Malawi President Peter Mutharika.

A source privy to the issue claimed that two high-ranking cabinet ministers made an effective case for the controversial prophet to be handed a diplomatic passport.

Malawi government confirmed issuing the couple the diplomatic passports which the immigration department said came without the diplomatic status associated with such passports.

However, an affidavit prepared by South African prosecutors claimed the Bushiris used the passports to evade customs and that the couple behaved as they pleased whenever flying in and out of South Africa. -Malawi24

3RD TERM TWAKANA…Lungu stood before God and swore twice as Republican President – Bishop Mambo

0

THIRD Term twakana, says Chikondi Foundation president John Mambo.

The former Church of God overseer said according to the current Constitution that President Edgar Lungu signed in 2016, he does not qualify to stand in the 2021 presidential election because he has held the bible twice.

Bishop Mambo told The Mast that President Lungu stood before God and swore twice as Republican President.

He said the Constitutional Court should not be used as a rubber stamp but instead help the country move forward.

“We will be very disappointed as Zambians if the Constitutional Court is going to be used as a rubber stamp. This is a matter of moving the country forward. According to what we learn in the current Constitution, President Lungu does not qualify to stand because he has held the bible twice as Republican President. Whether it was one month or two months in office, you do not need to hold a PhD in law to understand that [you have held office],” Bishop Mambo said. “So what we need to see is lawyers behaving like lawyers in the SADC and Commonwealth region, worldwide because Zambia we have become a laughing stock. When you go to court you already know the outcome.”

He said if President Lungu insists on having a third term, Zambians would humble him in the ballot box.

“The best way to stop President Lungu’s third term bid is people power, because people’s power you cannot underrate it. They [PF] can employ all means but people power will work against them. Once Zambians make up their mind, don’t be cheated, they will humble you. It is the people who are going to humble President Lungu and this time around…” he said. “That is why I am saying men and women in uniform should remain professional. They should stop any nonsense that we see of cadres coming in the streets and harassing people. Let the will of the people carry the day. So when you talk about running for the third term, twakana (we refuse).”

Bishop Mambo said if the Electoral Commission of Zambia and the courts disregard the Constitution, they would be destroying the country.

He said a constitution should not be changed to suit certain individuals.

“Bill 10 has fallen and it is a warning sign written in black and white that if the ruling party is not going to behave, the legacy that they will leave behind…A lot of money was spent to sign the current Constitution at the [National Heroes] Stadium and the President danced that ‘I can even sign it with my eyes closed’. I mean, what has changed now? What was so special about Bill 10 where a lot of money has been exchanged? No, a constitution must be respected,” said Bishop Mambo.

Criminal Activies At State House ; Wake Up Zambians – Sikaile Sikaile

CRIMINAL ACTIVIES AT STATE HOUSE ; WAKE UP ZAMBIANS

We have been reliably informed by our close sources within state house of ECZ working in hand with state house compiling a voter registration data base for the PF government. We find the move to be purely criminal, and it should be condemned by all meaningful Zambians as it has a hidden agenda.

In case you don’t know what it means fellow citizens, this is a statistical analysis strategy which may end up with closing voter registration prematurely should PF get their estimated figures in their perceived strongholds through this data collection…Watch it.

State house is busy collecting data of their perceived supporters from all Districts.

This covert operation is done by statehouse itself our intelligence sources have disclosed. Their perceived supporters are instructed to send details of their voters cards to handlers at districts for onward transmission to statehouse. Here a catch is, these numbers are being totaled up and compared to the overall numbers. Why? If PF gets its desired numbers in this first month of registration. The registration program will have no extension. So it’s imperative that all those who want to see change must all queue up for as long as it takes and register enemas. We are dealing with criminals who are determined to manipulate their way back into office.

If the machines breakdown in opposition stronghold, let us all go to their strongholds and register from there. This was the reason of deleting the old register so that they do the math now and create a numbers rigging formula that will never leave them embarrassed like in 2016 where they created fictions of constituencies like the case was for Chitulika and Lundazi. Maths is being done and the rigging software is being created as we speak.

That’s why statehouse is as busy as ECZ. Remember, ECZ is reporting daily records to statehouse, this is why we maintain our call for the disbundment of the current Electiral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), for it does not work to save Zambians but the PF rank and file.

The current ECZ executive is very corrupt and will not give us a fair election next year if we don’t act accordingly right now. Their ongoing arrogance at this point shows that even if they announce fake results next year, they will not correct them just like what Chulu did in 2016 when he created fake constituencies and figures.

When you hear of voter cards being collected, it is all for the maths.Rigging has began. We all need to remind Esau Chulu and Shindano to stop this criminality at all cost.

Mutinta Mazoka urges Pemba to register, vote for HH

0

MUTINTA Mazoka says it will be meaningless for the National Assembly to be full of UPND members of parliament if the party leader, Hakainde Hichilema, does not win the Republican presidency next year.

Mutinta is the Pemba UPND member of parliament and the widow of the opposition party’s founding president, Anderson Mazoka.

She spoke at a voter sensitisation rally graced by Hichilema in Pemba on Friday evening.

“Ikulilembya ku voota ncintu cipati maningi (registering oneself as a voter is very paramount). Tulilila president te (we’re crying to have a President, isn’t it)? Parliament yoonse iya tulakonzya yazula ba UPND (we can fill that parliament with UPND members),” Mazoka said.

“Pesi kuti kakunyina president taaku kulela (but if our party president does not win, we will not have ruled), ncabuyo (it’s meaningless). Mwanditeelela (do you hear me?)

She urged Pemba residents to vote for Hichilema on August 12 next year.

“All of you who have registered to vote, I ask that you go and vote for Hakainde Hichilema next year. There is a voter registration centre here in Pemba town where you can go and register as a voter even at night,” Mazoka electioneered.

“I was very disappointed last week on Wednesday when I went to register here in Pemba at night and found that there was no one on the queue.”

Mazoka further underscored that all those who are yet to register as voters ought to urgently do so.

“Go and register! Mutani kuyoowi misinzo (you should not be afraid of distances). Iku voota kwa mu 2021 mpaalele buumi bwenu (the 2021 elections will be a defining point for your lives). Mwanditeelela (do you hear me)?” stressed Mazoka.

For Hichilema, he told the huge gathering that: “kulela nkulemana nobana Pemba (to form government is seriousness business, people of Pemba).”

“Taali macece (it’s not child’s play). Inzala mung’anda ndumamba (having hunger in a home is like war),” he noted.

Hichilema reiterated that Zambians could not continue enduring socio-economic woes.

“We can’t continue living like this in a country that is rich with all sorts of resources. Change of government can be effected by voting, unlike just talking or forming a huge crowd such as this one,” he said, in Chitonga.

“But for you to be eligible as a voter, you must have an NRC and a voter’s card. Ngamakani ngindalonda kuno (that’s the topic that has brought me here). I and my wife are already registered as voters.”

Hichilema reminded the crowd that: “change of government lies in you having a voter’s card.”

“Takuli kwaana (it’s not like storytelling),” he said.

He insisted that: “kunyina cimbi ncindalonda kumwaambila nobana Pemba (there is nothing else I have come here for, people of People).”

“Ngo musalo ngundalonda (this is the issue I have come here for). Twapenga cabonwa (we have suffered enough). Tukapula bulelo (we’re seeking to form government). Jata noiluma (grab it, no matter how dangerous),” said Hichilema.

“Zambians across the country have accepted [to change the government]. It shouldn’t be you the people of Southern Province to believe otherwise because of petty lies from somebody. No! Simply go and register as voters!”

Our biggest task is to return Lungu at next year’s elections – Charles Banda

0

KAPOCHE member of parliament Dr Charles Banda has urged his electorates to ensure they vote in numbers to maintain President Edgar Lungu as a president till 2026.

Speaking to voters in Chinzule and six other villages on Friday, Dr Banda told the people that their biggest task was to return President Edgar Lungu at next year’s elections.

President Lungu was first elected to the Presidency in January 2015, holding office till August 2016 when he stood again and is serving till the next elections.

According to the constitution, any individual who has held office of president twice cannot be allowed a third time.

But Dr Banda, the Minister of Local Government, asked the people to register as voters in big numbers so that chances of President Lungu to win next year become high.

“This trip we are going round to see the response of voter registration and to encourage you to register as a voter. The major thing is that next year we shall have elections where we choose our leaders for this nation. The biggest choice we are going to have is to choose the President for this nation Zambia. All of us we shouldn’t forget that our task is to return President Edgar Lungu in the seat to continue being the President for Zambia until 2026. Have we agreed?” he asked the people.

Dr Banda urged Kapoche residents to vote well to add value to President Lungu’s success in next year’s election.

“We want us here to vote so well and the big vote we need from you is for the President. We beg and request a vote for President Edgar Lungu, that’s the vote we need so much! We want him to win,” Dr Banda said.

“Even us, we are supposed to win and we will win because of you. Behind President Edgar Lungu, there are helpers, which is us, his servants. It will be up to you to see if you are happy or not with us but we will come to request when that time comes so that Lungu shouldn’t be alone! But vote number one should be for the President Edgar Lungu.”

At Nyamtuma polling station, Dr Banda encouraged school pupils with NRCs to exercise their right to vote.

He told them that voting is one way of taking part in the governance system.

“If you are not a voter, it’s very difficult for me to account to you but when you are a voter, I should tell you what type of development we have done. You have the right to ask because you are the ones that put government in place,” Dr Banda said.

“I am the member of parliament because your parents voted for me and since your parents voted for me, I got a chance to be there as a minister. Take interest and ensure that you vote since you got NRCs” said Dr Banda.

And Sinda PF secretary Best Mwanza encouraged electorates to acquire voters’ cards as failure to have them would disadvantage them in terms of accessing fertiliser, relief food and other things next year.

On Thursday and Friday, Dr Banda monitored thr voter registration in polling stations in chieftainess Nyanje and chief Kathumba respectively.

He was accompanied by Sinda youth chairperson Pingilani Banda, party official Elias Phiri and some councillors.

In most polling stations he toured, the process is moving on well despite slow turn up in some polling stations.

ILLUSTRATIVE SIMPLE EXAMPLE OF HOW MR A AND MR B USED THEIR LOANS

ILLUSTRATIVE SIMPLE EXAMPLE OF HOW MR A AND MR B USED THEIR LOANS (Please read this to understand our debt problem)

Borrowing money is not a bad thing if you use the money correctly, most people that became wealthy financed their business through loans.

Let’s give you a practical example ;

Mr A and Mr B both work for the same company in the same capacity. They both have a salary of K10,000.

Mr A goes to FNB Bank and gets a loan of K200,000, he negotiates an interest rate of 25% and a repayment period of 7 years.

Mr B goes to ZANACO and also gets a loan of K200,000, he gets a higher interest rate of 35% and a repayment period of only 5 years.

They now both have K200,000 in the bank right?

Mr A uses the K200,000 to buy a hammer mill and a Bus.
He uses both for business, he charges people to use the hammer mill and charges fees for the use of the bus.
Every month he makes K10,000 profit from his business.
From this profit, he takes K5000 as monthly loan repayment to the bank, K2000 for personal consumption and K3000 remains in the business, over time he buys a second hammer mill and another bus and his business expands, he now makes K20,000 per month from his business, and soon he clears his loan with FNB with no problems and never having to use his salary for loan repayments.

Eventually he builds some flats, put them on rent and buys a nice car.

Let’s now talk about Mr B

When Mr B gets his K200,000 loan, he buys a Benz for K120,000, he goes on holiday to Cape Town for K40,000 and spends the remaining K40,000 on household furniture, partying and expensive outings.

He now starts making his loan repayments of K6000 from his K10,000 salary to the bank for loan repayments. That leaves him now with only K4000 to pay rent, school fees for his children and other expenses. After 8 months he fails to make his loan repayments and Zanaco comes after him, they grab the Benz, grab his furniture and take him to court, they obtain an order to get his salary until the loan is paid.

The court declares Mr B bankrupt and extreme poverty strikes his home.
In trying to stay afloat, Mr B starts borrowing more and more money from unscrupulous lenders getting himself in more problems.

WHAT’S THE MORAL OF THE LESSON?

1: Do not borrow for consumption, borrow for investment.
When you borrow, have a plan, invest the money in income generating activities, those activities should be able to generate enough profit for you to pay the loan, make a profit and not use your salary. Your salary should only be a means for you to obtain the loan.

2: When you borrow, negotiate good interest rates and a reasonable repayment period.

3: Do not waste or steal borrowed money.

Paul Kagame of Rwanda is Mr A, he borrowed for good reason, invested the money wisely, no pilferage, the investments paid off, he paid back the loans and the economy expanded.

ECL is Mr B, he borrowed for consumption, buying JETS, endless foreign trips abroad, fire tenders, Corruption and useless things that don’t generate any income. Alot of the money was stolen.

As a result, the loans had to be paid back from taxpayers money, reducing financial budgetary allocation for health and education, hence no medicines in hospitals.

As the debts mounted he went to the Chinese and borrowed more and more money until the country became bankrupt.

The infamous Haile Selassie who betrayed Ethiopia by siding with the Italians in 1935

0

When you hear the name Haile Selassie, the first person that comes to mind is the last Ethiopian Emperor who was revered for being a defining figure in history and the inspiration of the Rastafari movement.

But it is also the name Haile Selassie Gugsa, an army commander and member of the Royal Family.

Born in 1907, Gugsa was the son of Gugsa Araya Selassie, a prince and a great-grandson of Emperor Yohannes IV as well as the shum (governor) of eastern Tigray region.

When Araya died, Gugsa took over as governor but with the title Dejazmach, which was meant for non-royal commanders of the army.

He later married the daughter of Emperor Selassie, Zenebework Haile Selassie. The princess died aged 16, just a year after her marriage, amid rumours that she was treated horribly by her husband. This created tension between Gugsa and Emperor Selassie, which was exacerbated by the latter’s demand that his daughter be brought back to Addis Ababa instead of being buried in the capital of the Tigray region.

Gugsa was unhappy with the Emperor because he was not granted his ‘rightful’ title as the descendant of Emperor Yohannes IV. If he had had his way, his title would have had ‘Ras’ and ‘Leul’ just like his father before him and the governor of western Tigray and his rival, Seyoum Mengesha, whose daughter was married to the Crown Prince.

However, as the commander of the army, Gugsa was the one in charge when the Italian army invaded Mek’ele on October 3, 1935, to mark the start of the Italo-Abyssinian war.

Emperor Selassie, the great strategist, had asked Gugsa and Mengesha to withdraw miles from the invasion so as to show the League of Nations that Italians were the aggressors.

Haile Selassie Gugsa did not heed the call.

He actually went and met the Italians and submitted to their rule, making him a traitor to the Ethiopian Empire.

Soon after, the Italians, led by General Emilio de Bono, released photos of Gugsa working together with the Italians and attending war councils.

His move prompted retaliation from Tigrean patriots, who burnt down his home. A few days later Mek’ele fell and was occupied by the Italians for five years.

For his loyalty to them, Gugsa was granted the title ‘Ras’ by the Italians, who also recognised him as a senior Tigrean prince over his rival Mengesha. He even received an Italian pension.

Years later, when the British were considering the liberation of the Italian East Africa, there were plans to separate Tigray from Ethiopia and join it to Eritrea. The plans also involved making it the Great Tigray region under Ras Gugsa or Ras Mengesha. When Mengesha showed resistance to breaking apart the Ethiopian Empire, the British turned to Gugsa only to find out that he was in correspondence with the Italians.

They threw him into custody in Asmara and later took him to Seychelles for ‘safe keeping’ after they did not receive a promise from Emperor Selassie that Gugsa would not be killed if he is extradited to Ethiopia. He was only extradited in 1946 after numerous requests by Emperor Selassie.

Gugsa was tried in 1947 and was sentenced to death. He pleaded with Emperor Selassie and his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, which he served at Gore and later Ambo.

Not only was he stripped of his title ‘Ras’, but also his province was integrated into western Tigray under Mengesha. His whole family fell from grace and was not able to enjoy favours from Mengesha or Emperor Selassie.

When the Derg toppled the Ethiopian monarchy in 1974, they released Gugsa but still considered him a traitor. They kept him under house arrest until his death in 1985.

WE MISS LUKUKU AS ZAMBIANS

WE MISS LUKUKU AS ZAMBIANS

It has come clear to all how much Lukuku meant to Zambian politics and the heart he had for poor Zambians. Lukuku was the alliance partner spokesperson and at all time he made sure that he defended what is good for the people of Zambia.

This time when HH is being fought left, right and center by the surrogates of PF like Edith Nawakwi ,Sean Tembo, Tayali, Chanda and many more Lukuku would by now strongly and factually responded to to this obstructors of change. All these surrogates not long ago agreed that PF was supposed to go because it had run down our economy and that PF has broken down the rule of law in Zambia but now because they have realized that HH is about to replace Lungu it is paining them because of jealous, because of a tribe HH comes from and because of the payment and promises Lungu has given them. If Lukuku was arrive today this nonsense wasn’t going to be there hence questions who KILLED Lukuku? And why is it that the party in power FAILED even to send a simple message of condolences when he died? Was it a CALCULATION by someone to say by this time he should not be there?

Lukuku defended HH publicly than anyone during his time as a spokesperson for the alliance. But now all the opposition alliance partners are quiet at a critical time of being there for each other HH is being fought very hard the alliance is very quiet a move that has left alot to be desired

Since the fall of Bill 10 PF has funded a full campaign against HH just to make sure that he is not on the ballot next year by making sure that they send the lone political party leaders to attack him for being a biggest opposition leader. It was Nawakwi then came Tayali and now Sean Tembo tomorrow it will be pastor Chanda, etc taking one man and one case to Court and there is no one on HH’s side

My call goes to the churches, NGOs, Unions and all those Zambians who told UPND to reject Bill 10 to be on the side of HH during this time of Bill 10 fall persecution he is going through. You must all know that the reason HH is being fought is for making Bill 10 fall.

Let people not under rate these surrogates they’re capable of making sure that HH is eliminated from the ballot reason, they’re funded by the state and the state controls the system(break down in the rule of law) what if they take HH to court then they give you a magistrate in the name of Simusamba or Judge Chitabo do you think HH can survive a conviction? The time for all Zambians to stand up is now. Indeed Lukuku will be missed

Continue resting in peace comrade we have falied to fill the gap you left so far

Idris, the forgotten Libyan king overthrown by Gaddafi

0

In 1969, Muammar Gaddafi overthrew the only king to ever rule post-independent Libya, Muhammad Idris bin Muhammad al-Mahdi as-Senussi, just 18-years into his reign.

Idris, who saw the independence of the North African country was born on
12 March 1889. He was the grandson of the founder of the Senussi Muslim Sufi Order and the Senussi tribe in North Africa and thus was considered one of the privileged members of the community.

Idris, who took over the leadership of the Senussi after his cousin’s abdication, established a tacit with the British. He would also be instrumental in establishing an agreement with Italy upon the handover of Libya by the Ottoman Empire. He was made the Emir of Cyrenaica– one of the three provinces of Libya- and the people of Libya were allowed to hold dual citizenship (Libya and Italy) until the 1920s when the relationship between the two countries deteriorated.

Following the death of Tripolitania leader in 1920, Idris was approached to extend his rule to the region to bring peace and stability. He accepted the proposal despite Italy’s opposition of the unification of the two regions. The fear was so strong that Idris went into exile in Egypt in 1922.

World War II saw the defeat of Italy even in Libya, which was put under British and French forces. Idris supported the British hoping they would rid his country of Italians, but he had hoped Libya would become a British protectorate instead of an independent country.

By 1949, the agitation for an independent Libya had peaked, with the United Nations General Assembly passing a resolution that independence should be fully granted to Libya by 1952.

On this day in 1951, Idris was declared the king of the United Kingdom of Libya, with his headquarters at Benghazi. At the point, Libya was a poor nation destroyed by war. This forced Idris to form alliances with West, including allowing the establishment of military bases for the UK and U.S. in return for funding for development.

The country started prospering with the discovery of oil in 1959. At this time, Idris’ health had started deteriorating and he slowly retreated from governance and public life, leaving his nephew in charge. In 1969, while in Turkey for medical treatment, a group of soldiers led by Gaddafi deposed him.

The deposition followed a series of complaint of excesses by Libya’s only king. Reports indicate that Idris used the proceeds from oil to strengthen his family’s status and alliances. He was accused of endemic cronyism and corruption, leading to loss of support from Tripolitania and Fezzan.

Once deposed, the monarchy was abolished and republic reinstated. Idris went into exile in Egypt, where he stayed until his death in 1983.

When Samuel L. Jackson held MLK’s father hostage

0

Many do know Samuel L. Jackson as the acclaimed Hollywood actor and film producer but before he made it big on screen, Jackson was a civil rights activist who fought against the injustices of racism.

Getting deeply involved in the civil rights movement while a student at the historically black Morehouse College in Atlanta, Jackson did usher at the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but then went on to hold King’s father hostage a year after the funeral. Here’s why.

Born on December 21, 1948, in Washington D.C., Jackson was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by his grandmother before his mother later joined them. Growing up amid racism, he became an angry Black man.

“I had anger in me,” Jackson told Parade in 2005. “It came from growing up suppressed in a segregated society. All those childhood years of ‘whites only’ places and kids passing you on the bus, yelling, ‘Nigger!’ There was nothing I could do about it then.”

But getting into college in the 1960s, he realized he could now do something about the situation. While at Morehouse College in 1966 during the height of the civil rights movement, his introduction to psychedelic drugs got him involved in activism.

In two years when King, Jr. was assassinated and his body was brought to Atlanta to lie in state at Spelman College, adjacent to Morehouse, Jackson went to the funeral as one of the ushers and also flew to Memphis to join an equal rights protest march.

But a year after the funeral, Jackson got into trouble in Morehouse after he and a group of student activists held the college’s board of trustees hostage. They demanded that changes be made in the curriculum of the school, adding that they wanted more Black people on the governing board of the institution, Watch The Yard reported. And among the board members who were held hostage was King’s father, Martin Luther King Sr.

Jackson later explained that he and the group of students did petition the Morehouse board in 1969 about their concerns but, “The Black people who were around them said, ‘No way, you can’t come in here. You can’t talk to them.’ Somebody said, well, let’s lock the door and keep them in there,’ because we had read about the lock-ins on other campuses.”

King’s father, alongside the rest of the university board members, were held hostage for two days by Jackson and his group. By the second day, King’s father started having some chest pains. “We didn’t want to unlock the door,” Jackson recounted. “So we just put him on a ladder, put him out the window, and sent him down.”

At the end of the day, Morehouse agreed to do something about their concerns but Jackson and his group were later expelled for their actions. Jackson then joined some influential Black leaders including Stokely Carmichael who were members of the Black Power movement. “We were buying guns, getting ready for armed struggle,” Jackson told Parade. “All of a sudden, I felt I had a voice. I was somebody. I could make a difference.

“But then one day,” he recalled, “my mom showed up and put me on a plane to L.A. She said, ‘Do not come back to Atlanta.’ The FBI had been to the house and told her that if I didn’t get out of Atlanta, there was a good possibility I’d be dead within a year. She freaked out.”

In LA, Jackson worked in social services for two years and then returned to Morehouse to pursue acting. A drama major, he decided that theater would now be his politics. Graduating from Morehouse College in 1972, Jackson began his acting career on stage before later starring in Pulp Fiction, considered one of the greatest films of all time. He then appeared in big-budget films like Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and its sequels. He was also in the many installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Having one of the highest combined film grosses of any actor, Celebrity Net Worth estimates him to be worth $250 million. Last month, the legendary actor grabbed headlines with his new docuseries, Enslaved, which aims to cover the international impacts of the transatlantic slave trade.

HH Swindled Zambia, He can’t be President and I’m Ready to Prove it in Court-Sean Tembo

0

Leader of the opposition PeP Sean Tembo has accused leading opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema (HH) of having swindled the Nation during the privatisation of Mosi-o-Tunya Hotels in Livingstone.

Tembo insists HH who is one of the front runners in Zambia’s next year presidential has credibility issues saying he is not better placed to be president.

“He also has credibility issues, having evidently swindled the country during the privatization of Mosi-o-Tunya Hotel in Livingstone,” Tembo explained. “We did our research on that transaction and there is no doubt in our minds that the gentleman swindled the nation in that transaction.”

Mr Tembo further said that he is sure HH swindled the country on the Mosi-o-Tunya Hotels and that he is ready to prove it in court.

“We are not sure about other allegations but on that Livingstone hotel matter, we are sure and are willing to back it up in court,” said Tembo, adding that there is need for any Citizen to serve the country with honour when called upon to do so even in a small capacity.

“Now, as a citizen of this Republic, the State will often call upon you to serve it every now and then. It might be in a small capacity and it might be in a big capacity, but whatever the case, when the State calls upon you to serve it, you need to serve it with distinction and honor,” he says.

Tembo cited US as one country where one cannot run for the presidency if not served in Government before.

“That is why in other countries such as the US, it is often considered a custom that anyone who aspires to be President must have served in the security or defense wings. For example, seven of America’s Presidents after 1945 actually fought in the Second World War. George W Bush was Director of the CIA before he became President. The point here is that you need to have served the State in one capacity or the other to show your suitability for the main job,” he explains.

Tembo said that it is unfortunate when HH was given an opportunity to serve the country he allegedly abused the opportunity.

“When Mr. Hichilema was given an opportunity to serve the country by managing part of our privatization, he instead decided to serve his pockets and put his personal interests above those of the State. And now, he is asking to be President. He abused the State once when he was given an opportunity to serve it, surely what are the chances that he will not abuse the State again if given the opportunity to serve as President?”

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

WHO SHOULD BE ZAMBIA’s NEXT PRESIDENT AND WHY?

Part 2 of 3

1. In part 1 of this series of articles, we looked at where our country is today in terms of our economy. We emphasized that we are at crossroads and the person who we vote in as President in 2021 will determine whether we can recover and regain our lost glory or proceed to plunge into the abyss of economic ruin forever. The task of turning around this country’s economy is extremely tuff but not impossible. Given the urgency of the matter at hand, having already defaulted on our external debt, we need to usher into office as President next year, a person who already has a plan to turnaround our economy and not a person who is going to start searching for a plan once they are in office. There will be no time for that. So, the question which every responsible citizen of this Republic should be asking themselves is; who among the myriad of Presidential candidates has a ready plan that is documented and published, for turning around our country’s economy? Who has a plan and how sound is that plan? Has such an economic turnaround plan been subjected to the scrutiny of the Zambian people and what is their feedback? Is the plan viable? Can it be trusted?

2. In the previous article, we looked at the first two of potential presidential candidates for 2021, being Mr Lungu and Mr Hichilema. We clearly outlined that President Lungu does not have the competence needed to turnaround our economic fortunes since it is him together with his predecessor; the late President Micheal Sata, that put us in this hole in the first place. Some people like to argue that Sata was a visionary leader and that it is Lungu who messed up Sata’s vision. But l don’t share those sentiments. I believe that our economy’s downward spiral started during Sata’s time due to his lack of respect for Government systems and processes where he borrowed recklessly and did not even put the proceeds of such borrowing to good use. When Lungu took over, he merely added his incompetence and lack of vision to land us where we are today. But make no mistake about it, today’s economic quagmire is a product of the incompetence and lack of vision of two Presidents; Lungu and his predecessor, Sata. If we are going to make progress from here, we need to face the reality of the situation at hand and not bury our heads in the sand.

3. In the previous article, we also tackled another potential 2021 presidential candidate, Mr Hakainde Hichilema of the UPND. I actually do wish HH was the right candidate, things would have been much more easier. But he is not, on many fronts. Most importantly, he is incompetent and has no vision for this country. His proposed solution to current economic quagmire is to go on an IMF program so that we can borrow more money from the IMF, albeit with more stringent conditions whereby the IMF will essentially be determining our economic policy from their headquarters in New York City, with no regard for the plight of a widowed grandmother in Kaputa Village. So if HH was to become President of Zambia, his immediate economic turnaround plan would be to put the country on an IMF package. It is worth noting that an IMF package is usually applicable in instances where a country lacks fiscal discipline and the fiscal discipline has to be imposed by the IMF by taking over your day-to-day economic management responsibilities. In other words, an IMF package makes you lose your sovereignty. You basically relinquish your responsibilities to an external institution which you cannot be sure will have the best interests of your country and it’s people at heart. By the way, this country has a history with the IMF and World Bank in the early 1990s when they implemented what was known as the Structural Adjustment Program or SAP in short. It is the IMF that compelled the Chiluba administration to sell our parastatal companies at a give away price, because according to them, they were a drain on the treasury and had to be gotten rid of. We all know that we destroyed our vast industrial base in the 1990s which KK had worked so hard to build, and we have not recovered up to now, all because of the IMF and its SAP. And Mr Hichilema wants to insist on putting this country on an IMF program as a solution to our economic quagmire? When we say the gentleman is clueless, it is not out of spite. It is a statement of fact. HH cannot take this country anywhere because he is incompetent and has no vision.

4. He is an accidental main opposition leader who inherited his political party from a dead man, just like Lungu. You see, there is something about people who inherit things as opposed to standing up, stepping forward and creating something from scratch because you feel compelled inside you to offer a solution. The question that people should ask themselves is where would HH be today if Mazoka did not die? He would probably still be at Granthornton working as a Managing Partner. So he is an accidental opposition leader. He became an opposition leader simply because an opportunity for fame arose and not because he felt compelled to do so because of the suffering of the Zambian people. On the other hand, people like Sata and Mazoka found it necessary to assist the Zambian people and proceeded to step out of their comfort zones and started political movements from scratch. Therein lies the difference when it comes to vision. Of course, apart from incompetence, we indicated last time that HH suffers from two additional handicaps that make him unsuitable to be Zambia’s President; he is a tribalist that has created a false national narrative that his tribe has been marginalized and hence what’s to be Republican President to correct that, and he also has credibility issues, having evidently swindled the country during the privatization of Mosi-o-Tunya Hotel in Livingstone. We did our research on that transaction and there is no doubt in our minds that the gentleman swindled the nation in that transaction. We are not sure about other allegations but on that Livingstone hotel matter, we are sure and are willing to back it up in court. Now, as a citizen of this Republic, the State will often call upon you to serve it every now and then. It might be in a small capacity and it might be in a big capacity, but whatever the case, when the State calls upon you to serve it, you need to serve it with distinction and honor. That is why in other countries such as the US, it is often considered a custom that anyone who aspires to be President must have served in the security or defense wings. For example, seven of America’s Presidents after 1945 actually fought in the Second World War. George W Bush was Director of the CIA before he became President. The point here is that you need to have served the State in one capacity or the other to show your suitability for the main job. When Mr Hichilema was given an opportunity to serve the country by managing part of our privatization, he instead decided to serve his pockets and put his personal interests above those of the State. And now, he is asking to be President. He abused the State once when he was given an opportunity to serve it, surely what are the chances that he will not abuse the State again if given the opportunity to serve as President?

5. This brings us to the other political movements that are there. Let us start with Kambwili and his NDC. We all remember that Kambwili was a very excited person when he was a Minister in the PF Government, at one time even telling Zambians to go and urinate in their cars if they felt that the price of fuel is too high. That is when he was Chief Government Spokesperson. Now, today Kambwili wants to portray himself as a savior to the Zambian people? What savior? We saw how you behaved when you were entrusted to serve the State in a smaller capacity and no one can trust you with a bigger responsibility of being Republican President. There is nothing there really. Kambwili is not even worth a full paragraph in this article. Then there is this other clique of former PF Ministers and other senior members who claim that they will deliver Sata’s vision! Which Sata’s vision first? The vision of haphazard economic policy where you issue SI 33 and SI 55 today and you reverse it after 6 months causing serious ripples in the market and causing the exchange rate to fluctuate from $5.9 to $7.4 within such a short space of time? The vision of borrowing huge chunks of money under the Eurobond and then keeping $400 million cash in a non-interest bearing commercial bank account for 5 months while waiting for Zambia Railways to develop a business plan of how they will spend the money? What vision? The vision of declaring a District simply because you liked the taste of the mangoes that you bought by the roadside in a particular area? Vision is not haphazard. Vision is structured. The only vision that Sata had was to grow his party and keep the MMD on its toes and not vision for managing the nation. He dismally failed to manage the nation and its a pity that he left us because it would have been nice to see the look on his face after we defaulted on our external debt.

6. Socialism? There is nothing there!

HH Urges People Of Dundumwezi To Register As Voters

0

By Florence Muyunda cic Private Reporter.

SOUTHERN ~Kaoma (Dundumwezi).

HH URGES PEOPLE OF DUNDUMWEZI TO REGISTER AS VOTERS.

Dundumwezi Constituency today became standstill when the UPND leader Mr Hakainde Hichilema accompanied by the high powered delegation. Jubilation in a traditional setup ensured to celebrate the visit of Mr Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Hakainde Hichilema told the gathering that in 2016 they did a wonderful job and he thanked them very much and urged them to keep the fire burning but register as voters voters first.

“People of Dundumwezi’s Bbilili ward go and get your voter’s cards and in 2021 ensure you vote. The entire country wants change except PF and the few who are corrupt because their desire is to continue seeing more jobless youths, run down Agriculture sector, broken down health and education systems among others. Like we said to the people of Bbilili ward during our National voter registration sensitisation program today, all Zambians must register to vote and together we shall bring about the much desired change” Said Mr Hichilema.

And UPND Secretary General Hon Stephen Katuka told the gathering that the entire Southern province are good people but it’s bad how evil they are painted to be due to jealous by PF. He said that 2021 all the registered voters must give them all 100% to UPND and HH because in 2016 only 200,000 voters. He said let PF get zero this time.

Monze Central MP Hon Jack Mwiimbu said the even Jesus Christ came today Bill 10 will never resurrect because it is permanently dead forever and the PF must move on.

Lukashsya Aspiring candidate Hon Davis Mulenga aka Big Mule told the gathering about the history of Bembas and Tongas and said Tongas have helped Bembas so much hence it’s time to pay back. Big mule the crowd puller made everyone laugh and joyous with his comic voice saying he is in the game to deliver it’s time for HH, Lusaka province chairperson for UPND Hon Obvious Mwaliteta said the Southern province must rise up and defend HH and never allow the hope of Zambian people to be disturbed again, Hon Mwaliteta said that enough is enough the PF must stop abusing the name of Tongas for their political gains. Furious Mwaliteta told the gatherings that 2021 is a do or die year hence the PF must know that UPND is not playing around this time.

Lungu Has To Tour Country, If Others Are Not That Is Their Problem – GBM

0

By Patson Chilemba

The President has to tour the country, if presidents of other parties are not doing it that is their problem, says ruling PF vice-chairperson for mobilisation Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM).

Speaking with Daily Revelation, GBM was asked if the ongoing presidential tours around the country were aimed at helping with mobilisation for support as opposed to inspecting developmental projects. Responding, GBM said President Lungu wanted to make sure that people see him.

“I think that is just a programme for the President. The President of course has to do that, if other presidents or other political parties are not doing that I think that is their problem. But you have seen that our president his prime objective now is to make sure that there is development in all the corners of Zambia,” GBM said, “including where they didn’t vote for him, including Monze in fact where he was booed. He has actually gone there to commission a police camp.”

GBM described the tours as something that was ongoing.

“So I think that it’s something that is ongoing although he just wants to make sure that people of Zambia, of course some have never seen him, they would like to see him, they would love to see him,” GBM said. “If other presidents were not doing that, I think he’s doing it differently which I personally fully support, that he should traverse the country so that people can see who Edgar Chagwa Lungu is. Some of them have never seen him.”

On the voter registration programme, GBM said the job of his committee was to reach out to would be voters, saying this was the time to entice voters to vote. He said most people, like from the area he hails from did not understand the importance of voting.

“For now what we want to do is first to go on radio in all the districts, in all the constituencies, districts and so on and so forth to sensitize them through radio that’s what we have put in place for now. But I think other things will follow later,” GBM said, adding that the outreach would also go to areas which were not known to be ruling party strongholds. “I think it’s important to eye those places, because not everyone who voted against us in the last general election will vote against us in this coming general election would vote against us in this coming general election next year. Some of them have changed their minds. Some of them are fatigued with their parties, they want to change and vote for of course for any progressive party which is no other than PF.”

On the debate regarding President Lungu’s insistence to go for another term, which is viewed as a third term by the others, GBM said it was wishful thinking to think that the President would be stopped from standing. He said it was a waste of time, arguing the Constitutional Court had already addressed the matter.

“So how do we expect to find ourselves without a president? We as Patriotic Front our sole candidate is president Edgar Chagwa Lungu and that is what we have resolved, even before the convention because this is what the people of Zambia are saying,” said GBM. “We have traversed the whole Zambia and most Zambians are saying they want Edgar Chagwa Lungu, they are not mentioning or anyone in our party.” -Daily Revelation

WE ARE READY TO DEFEND OUR KING – Barotse youths , Indunas, chiefs and the people

– As Nabiwa Imikendu and group organizes youths in mongu to march and give solidarity with placards and banners insulting the Litunga

By L. Namukolo

Barotse Royal Establishment in Limulunga Royal village has once again maintained their stance that, they won’t entertain the authorities of Zambian government through the so called judiciary and its courts to continue insulting the biggest institution of Litungaship by subjecting it to litigation which is total Tabo and uncalled for.

Addressing the local people who went to pay courtesy call at the Kuta today to find out about the pending court case in Mongu high court.

People from Mushuwa, Nan’oko, Isambai, Moombo, Limulunga, Mabumbu and surrounding area expressed sadness in the manner the Kuta has entertained the current situation and offered solidarity to defend the Litingaship at all costs. The local people vehemently declared that let anyone try to step on the palace grounds and see their fate as they are ready to die for their institution.

However, the Kuta urged the people to be vigilant and steadfast as the enemies are closer among ourselves who are working with suppressors in order to completely destroy our institution which is the highest authority in the land.

Local people have said for past 500 years there have never been such insults been brought to the Kuta not even in the colonial time never. “We had Kenneth Kaunda , late Fredrick Chiluba , late levy Mwanawasa, Rupiah Banda , late Michael Sata and now Edgar Lungu who seems to be determined to completely destroy and abolish our Litungaship using our people, will never let foreigners destroy us. When you hear a fellow lozi that is supporting to insult his or her parents just know that person is not there child. No one can feel good to see his or her parents been insulted and you quiet and laugh, once he dies you will remain without a parent”. One of the angry youths stated.

However, his Royal Highness Chief Chiengele kashengula nyumbu of Mushuwa palace in Nan’oko area of Limulunga has disclosed that From time immemorial, Litunga has never been dethroned by litigation. “We have our own system of dealing with such a matter. I’m in support of the Kuta. We shouldn’t let people destroy our own institution”he said

The BRE youths wing has reported to have managed to mobilize hundreds of youths in the 16 districts of Barotseland. The youths will camp in Lealui Royal village starting on the 25th November. Security will be provided by the Barotse youth wing.

However, speaking on behalf of the Kuta of Naliele, Imangamba said As the Kuta they have been following this case closely. And If we are really the people that fights for our cause I want to say that we should not allow the following:
– Litunga should never appear in the Zambian courts. Our forefathers had a way of dealing with an ailing Litunga.
– We should never allow Namuso to say that we are getting indepence because Zambian government is taking his majesty the Litunga to their court. Dragging his Majesty the Litunga to Zambian court or not Barotseland should be free, it’s a must.

In the latest development, Nalolo Kuta have said the people of Barotseland should stick to the independence.
The shortcomings of Lubosi Imwiko II, as the reigning Litunga of Barotseland should never drive us into destroying our institution. If Lubosi as a reigning Litunga of Barotseland is dethroned by Zambian courts that will be a very bad picture and precedent that should never be allowed to happen in our lives.

However never forget about the struggle because the whole world will prove that we have no muscle for the struggle.

Meanwhile, according to the sources who are familiar with the litigants they have disclosed that, Nabiwa imikendu and group are organizing youths to march to Mongu high court to offer them solidarity on 1st December. The youths informed BBN that they intend to carry placards and banners written words and remarks denouncing and rejecting lubosi Imwiko as the Litunga of Barotseland. The youths will be denouncing the BRE and Litunga at the court. But majority of the youths that have been approached have refused and said they support their Litungaship.

Nabiwa imikendu a former Induna Imbwae one of the litigants is an installer of Barotseland Kings and is very much aware of the 100 ways to dethrone a king. By traditional a King self dethrones once he enters a court of law.

Meanwhile, some scholars have argued that His Justice minister Natamoyo or the prime minister, sope, Ngambela can represent the Litunga in such matters. According to Bulozi London, a truely nationalist who has the heart for the kingdom has disclosed that Precedence was set when Sekeli Konoso once tried to engage King Mwanawina in court but failed. -Barotseland Broadcasting Network

HH swindled the country, can’t be President – Sean Tembo

0

Leader of the opposition PeP Sean Tembo has accused leading opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema (HH) of having swindled the Nation during the privatisation of Mosi-o-Tunya Hotels in Livingstone.

But HH has rubbished these accusation of having done anything wrong in the privatisation programme where he was hired as a Consultant.

Tembo insists HH who is one of the fronter runners in Zambia’s next year presidential has credibility issues saying he is not better placed to be president.

“He also has credibility issues, having evidently swindled the country during the privatization of Mosi-o-Tunya Hotel in Livingstone,” Tembo explained. “We did our research on that transaction and there is no doubt in our minds that the gentleman swindled the nation in that transaction.”

HH has since dragged to court two other opposition leaders – Edith Nawakwi who is also a former Minister of Finance and Chilufya Tayali on the privatisation illigality allegations.

But Tembo says he is sure HH swindled the country on the Mosi-o-Tunya Hotels and that he is ready to prove it in court.

“We are not sure about other allegations but on that Livingstone hotel matter, we are sure and are willing to back it up in court,” said Tembo.

He explains that there is need for any Citizen to serve the country with honour when called upon to do so even in a small capacity.

“Now, as a citizen of this Republic, the State will often call upon you to serve it every now and then. It might be in a small capacity and it might be in a big capacity, but whatever the case, when the State calls upon you to serve it, you need to serve it with distinction and honor,” he says.

Tembo cites US as one country where one cannot run for the presidency if not served in Government before.

Tembo says unfortunate when HH was given an opportunity to serve the country he allegedly abused the opportunity.

“When Mr Hichilema was given an opportunity to serve the country by managing part of our privatization, he instead decided to serve his pockets and put his personal interests above those of the State. And now, he is asking to be President. He abused the State once when he was given an opportunity to serve it, surely what are the chances that he will not abuse the State again if given the opportunity to serve as President?”

The issue of privatisation has become a hot with the PF Government hinting on setting up a commission of inquiry.

This however is seen by some people as a witchhunt on HH candidature as the programme was conducted over 25 years ago.

Cash Bonanza Hits Eastern Chiefs During Lungu’s Campaigns In The Province

CASH BONANZA HITS EASTERN CHIEFS DURING LUNGU’S CAMPAIGNS IN THE PROVINCE.

Cash bonanza has hit the pockets of Eastern Province traditional leaders during President Edgar Lungu’s ongoing campaigns in the area.

Well placed sources in the traditional establishment in the Province, PF officials and government officials have collaborated information with Daily Revelation media that chiefs and headmen are being paid money, with three chiefs in Lundazi told to travel to Lusaka to get three vehicles.

Sources said the chiefs in Chipata were paid K5000 each, with one receiving over K250,000, and that the 42 headmen who were gathered at Anoya Zulu school were paid K500 each.

The sources said the amounts received by the chiefs in Lundazi were increased to K10,000 each, plus the promise of vehicles to some.

“The plan is to turn up vote margins in areas like Eastern Province, therefore the headmen have more or less been appointed as campaign managers as they are the ones who interact face to face with the people,” sources said. “The boss himself promised them, when a headman Jere complained about the difficulties they were experiencing, the boss said he would instruct that they be paid through the social cash transfer.”

The other promise given to the traditional leaders is that each headman in the Province will receive a bicycle to help with their movements.

“This whole campaign here is tainted with corruption. The boss seems determined to win the 2021 elections at all cost. We are just wondering where all this money is coming from. We hope the Bank of Zambia is not printing extra money out of circulation as the people feared with the appointment of Christopher Mvunga,” the sources said. “In our view, the boss is more preoccupied with winning the election despite the challenges being experienced in the country, like the shameful label of being labeled debt defaulters.”

However, the sources said the Chewa chiefs who are aligned with paramount chief Gawa Undi have not been forthcoming with with the pay for play games in the whole scheme.
And the sources said paramount chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province is today celebrating 38 years on the throne. However, some traditionalists have taken issue with that.

“He’s holding an anniversary celebrating 38 years on the throne. It’s interesting how resources were sourced to carry out such a demanding undertaking, because it’s not just celebrating, those celebrations come with other expenditures like feeding the people and just the huge task of organising the event,” the sources said. “He has invited Archbishop George Lungu of Chipata Diocese to bless the occasion. However, our understanding is that celebrations should be held after sequences like 10, 20, 30, 40 years. We wonder why the occasion is being celebrated in the 38th year.”

When contacted for comment this morning, the Mpezeni said he could not comment as the ceremony celebrating his 38 years on the throne was already underway.
Calls to chief Magodi of Lundazi too went unanswered.

DON’T FORGIVE PF…they’re true architects of this crisis, your pain – Sejani

0

ACKSON Sejani has called on Zambians to punish the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party in next year’s elections for what he termed the messy voter registration exercise they have been subjected to.

Sejani, a former local government minister in the Frederick Chiluba administration, said people lost their lives for the right to vote.

“Zambians must punish PF at the polls for subjecting them to this treatment outside polling stations. Voter registration has never been such a tedious and time consuming exercise as we are seeing now,” he said in a statement. “The right to vote did not come cheaply to us and in fact we had to fight for it. In some instances, lives were lost fighting for the right to vote. Since this right never came cheaply we will also not allow any one or any government to take it away cheaply.”

Sejani, who reflected deeply on the current chaotic voter registration, demanded an extension to the process.

He also wondered what type of a provisional register the Electoral commission of Zambia (ECZ) would come up with if the process could be too chaotic.

“Those of our compatriots who have been left behind must be captured to also partake in next year’s elections. We demand a substantial extension of the voter registration exercise covering all polling stations again,” Sejani said.

“Given these levels of inefficiencies being exhibited by the ECZ, I am also left wondering in what state the provisional register will be. The nation must brace itself for one hell of a jumbled mess where our names will be sprinkled all over the show. It will not be strange to find voters in Nakonde appearing under polling stations in Kalomo while those in Kalomo will be sprinkled all over Chavuma. Nobody at this stage must underestimate the capacity of the ECZ for incompetence.”

Sejani urged people to use the time they spent on queuing up to register “to campaign against the PF for wasting their time”.

“This is the valuable time they should have been using fending for their children in these difficult economic times created by the same PF. These queues must give birth to an unstoppable movement against the PF,” he said. “Phase one of the mobile voter registration exercise has ended throughout the country and the teams have shifted, leaving crowds of unregistered eligible Zambians behind. In fact, the first phase has only managed to capture about a third of the numbers we had in 2016.”

Sejani said fears people expressed about the voter registration process had come to pass.
“Our worst fears have come to pass and this will be the pattern in all the remaining phases of this exercise. At the end of the day, ECZ will only manage to capture a third of what we had in 2016. This is the reality now because we are no longer speculating but we are talking about real people left on the queues outside these polling stations. What will happen to these people ECZ has left behind?” Sejani asked. “This crisis in voter registration is the creation of the Patriotic Front government and their electoral commission. In other words, PF and ECZ are partners in crime. It is therefore immoral and cheap for the PF to try and distance themselves from the mess they have created whilst acting together with the ECZ. The ECZ represents the PF in all the meetings they try to have with other political parties.”

And Sejani questioned the sudden shift by the PF where they have also condemned the ECZ’s slow pac of the exercise.

On November 11, PF secretary general Davies Mwila issued a statement, expressing concern about the slow pace of the process.

“We are receiving reports from different parts of the country that its taking in excess of 10 minutes for an individual to be issued with the voter’s card. Added to this is the reported lack of sufficient manpower to attend to citizens expeditiously. We are therefore calling on ECZ to up its game by ensuring that they increase the number of personnel attending to members of the public as well as ensure that there is adequate equipment in areas less catered for,” said Mwila. “The Patriotic Front believes that the integrity of any election begins with a smooth and efficient voter registration process. Hence, it is our hope that ECZ will move with speed to address these serious concerns in different parts of the country. ECZ may wish to reconsider stationing their personnel at designated voter registration centres for the stipulated thirty (30) days, as opposed to the ‘rotational formula’ which the Commission is currently implementing. In short, PF is calling for increased manpower and equipment per centre, so as to ensure that as many eligible citizens as possible get registered as voters.”

But Sejani referred to the recent meeting ECZ had with stakeholders where President Edgar Lungu never uttered a word for his party.

“Even recently, at the summit with other party presidents, Mr Lungu remained suspiciously and curiously quiet when other parties were presenting their concerns regarding the way ECZ was proceeding. He was quiet because he knew that ECZ was presenting their joint position. So what is this flurry of letters and statements from PF condemning the ECZ?” he asked.

“First it was the Vice-President, followed by the acting Minister of Information, then the secretary general of the party; thus opening the floodgates for every party official in PF taking turns in condemning the ECZ. This is cheap, coming from a party that is directing ECZ what to do and coming from a government that is supposed to fund the Commission. This is also a lesson to the Commission to be careful with whom they go to bed with because these people will desert you at the slightest hint of trouble. Here we are, the PF is already washing their hands from the mess, leaving the Commission to bear the full brunt of the national anger.”

Sejani urged people never to forgive the PF for the pain they have caused them.

“Zambians must not forgive PF for the pain they are undergoing at the registration centres because they are the true architects of this crisis. They were and are still scheming against the opposition,” said Sejani. “There is however a down side to this scheming because if you over scheme you may end up scheming against yourself. Like in football if you over dribble you may end up dribbling yourself and you fall down in the process.”

BA POMPWE MUSHIBILA NSALA BALA SEBANA, SAYS M’MEMBE

Statement of the Socialist Party on the Zambian government’s failure to honour its debt servicing obligations

On September 22, this year, the Minister of Finance announced that he had made a request to bondholders to suspend debt servicing for six months because Zambia was not in a position to meet her debt servicing obligations due on October 14, 2020.

As you may be aware, 40 per cent of bondholders immediately refused to grant Zambia debt servicing suspension.

The Zambian government had hoped that when 60 per cent of bondholders met last Friday, which was the last day of the one month grace period given to pay from the initial due date, the bondholders would agree with their proposals. But they too refused.

Consequently, Zambia officially became the first country in Africa to default even if it had already defaulted on other unknown Chinese debt obligations.

As the Socialist Party, we are concerned with the lack of seriousness from the Treasury when dealing with these important issues. We have plenty human resource that we have invested in as a country and worked at the highest level at of both the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. It is an embarrassment to the nation that the Minister of Finance lied to the nation about his engagement with bondholders only for them to issue a statement the following day that there had been no direct contact between them and the Zambian government.

Why did Dr Bwalya Ng’andu lie to the nation? Is he covering up on the debt that was borrowed under the cover of darkness?

They say, ‘You can run but you can’t hide…You can fool some people all the time, but you can’t fool all people all the time.”

Reality has finally dawned on this Patriotic Front government.

What the international community is demanding is transparency on the Chinese debt obligations. The demand by the Minister of Finance through his representatives that bondholders should sign a non-disclosure agreement before he discloses the extent of Chinese debt and the conditions attached thereof should be of interest to every Zambian because this is public debt which you will all pay for.

As the Socialist Party, we wish to announce to the nation that the reason why this government has since 2016 refused to open it’s books to the IMF on the Chinese debt is because that would reveal the Patriotic Front’s massive penchant for bribes. Most of the loans have inflated figures because of amounts a few greedy individuals collected as ”facilitation” fees. The International community is well aware of the extent of corruption and are now collaborating with bondholders to expose how corrupt this government is.

Once that information on the Chinese debt is given, it will reveal how much money was shared and by who. At the moment, Ministry of Finance officials have been struggling to balance the figures before the IMF team comes in.

Dr Ng’andu must not continue protecting criminals. There is no place for them to hide anymore.

Dr Ng’andu has two options: It’s either he reveals the actual figures of the Chinese debt and Patriotic Front goes down so that we can protect our economy or he lets Patriotic Front continue hiding their nefarious acts and we all go down.

Dr Ng’andu has to make that choice because time is of essence. Thankfully, since we cannot demand accountability and transparency from the powerful politicians and their fellow gangsters outside government, a far more powerful group has come to our rescue.

HH does not trust any other tribe other than his own -Sean Tembo

WHO SHOULD BE ZAMBIA’S NEXT PRESIDENT AND WHY?

Part 1 of 3

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. Our country is now at crossroads. And am not saying this rhetorically, l mean it literally. What this means is that the 2021 general elections will provide us with an opportunity to decide which direction we shall go, and whether such a direction will be progressive or retrogressive. The term ‘vote wisely’ could not be more applicable. But with such a supposedly crowded political landscape, who should the people vote for? And why?

2. In order to arrive at an appropriate answer for the question above, there’s need to use a combination of merit-based assessment as well as elimination. But before we go further to look at each potential presidential candidate and what they have to offer, which of course will be quite divisive, let us first agree on some key considerations that are not in dispute. Firstly, it is not in dispute that our economy is currently on its knees, having recently defaulted on our external debt. It is also not in dispute that the levels of poverty and squalor have doubled over the past decade or so. It is also a fact that if we continue on the current trajectory, there is a very high chance that we may not have a country to talk home about because our creditors will begin to slowly grab our assets wherever they are, including our territory. Therefore, what we are facing is not just an economic crisis but an existential threat. That is how serious the issue is.

3. Given the crossroads that this country is at, whoever is elected President next year will have to possess the unique economic management ability to turn this country around so as to not only resolve our current economic crisis, but also overcome our existential threat as a nation. This is not a time for average economic performers. This is a time exceptional economic performers. The best person to lead us over the next 5 years is not someone who does not yet have an economic plan and will only begin to assemble one once in State House, no! There will be no time for that. By the time such a President finishes assembling an economic turnaround plan, there might be no Zambia to talk about because our creditors would have grabbed our territory. We might at that time be citizens without land, and those who decide to live in the seized territories may end up being slaves to the new owners of our territory. I doubt that there is any Zambian who is ready and willing to be a slave to our creditors in this day and age. That is the reason why each one of us has a collective responsibility to vote wisely next year. We need to vote for a Presidential candidate that already has a documented economic turnaround plan, and not someone who will start searching for a plan once in State House. A Presidential candidate who will hit the ground running and turnaround our economic fortunes and save all of us from potentially becoming slaves to our creditors.

4. We can now look at each of the potential presidential candidates that are available and their suitability for the mammoth task outlined above. Let us begin with the incumbent. His Excellency, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia from 25th January 2015 to date. Well, we acknowledge whatever achievements Mr Lungu has scored in the past 5 years based on his abilities. For example, the infrastructure development such as clinics, hospitals and roads in both urban and rural areas which Mr Lungu has brought about is unprecedented and cannot be compared to any other presidency in the history of this country. That is a fact that we cannot take away from Mr Lungu, and we appreciate it. However, President Lungu’s abilities begin and end with putting up infrastructure. He has no ability to ensure that whatever infrastructure that is developed is actually developed at a reasonable cost. With him, his abilities end with infrastructure development only. That is the reason why he does not see anything wrong with a tollgate such as the Micheal Chilufya Sata toll plaza between Ndola and Kitwe, costing a whooping US$5 million. That is K100 million for 8 pillars and some roofing sheets on top!!! Now, it is President Lungu’s failure to ensure that infrastructure projects are undertaken in a cost-effective manner that has landed us here with a debt default. President Lungu lacks any other competence needed to properly run a country. He lacks a basic understanding of how an economy functions. He doesn’t understand the consequences of over borrowing. He doesn’t understand the consequences of blocking farmers from exporting their maize. He doesn’t understand the consequences of undertaking infrastructure projects at three times their cost. In other words, he doesn’t understand anything else other than putting up buildings across the country. And what exacerbates his situation are two things. Firstly, his lack of appetite to get advice from anyone and secondly, his appetite to surround himself with incompetent advisors and ministers. This combination makes President Lungu a huge liability to this country. And Presidents are supposed to be an asset and not a liability to their respective countries. But President Lungu is a huge liability to Zambia and the earlier we retire him in the national interest, the better. The 2021 general elections presents all of us with an opportunity to send President Lungu into retirement. We appreciate and shall forever be grateful for the infrastructure development that he has scored, but it is now time for him to pave way for someone else who can take it up from here and score other success for this nation.

5. This brings us to the next presidential candidate; Mr Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development or UPND in short. On paper, HH would have been the most suitable person to become the next President of this country, except for three prominent handicaps that he has. Number one, he is incompetent, number two he is a tribalist and number three, he has credibility issues. I know that some people might be jumping off their seats because of these brazen allegations, but please allow me to explain in detail, one allegation at a time.

6. I must say that there is no shadow of doubt in my mind that if what we really need is to turnaround our economic fortunes and prevent our territory from being grabbed by our creditors, then Mr Hichilema is not the man for the job. But if the argument is that HH runs the biggest opposition political party in Zambia today and therefore he must be next in line when Mr Lungu leaves office, then it carries water. For me, l have been a very keen follower and at some point, close associate of the UPND leader, and l know for a fact that he does not have any vision for Zambia, let alone a vision necessary to take us out of this deep economic hole that President Lungu and his PF have put us in. Despite having two degrees, Mr Hichilema has a very simplistic perspective of Zambia’s economic problems. For example, time and again, he has said that his Government will provide free education to everyone from kindergarten to university!! Where he will get the money to fund such a huge expenditure, nobody knows. Time and again, he has argued on radio that he will scrap all taxes on fuel once he ascends to office. How he will bridge the resultant fiscal deficit, nobody knows. He has failed to propose any tangible alternative solutions to Zambia’s many economic problems. His solution to our current debt crisis is to go on an IMF package. But an IMF package is simply additional borrowing, albeit with more stringent conditions whereby you lose part of your sovereignty and our country’s economic policy decisions will be made by blue-eyed boys in shinny suits sitting in a boardroom in New York City. How can additional borrowing from the IMF be a solution to our current problem of over-borrowing? HH has no solutions to our economic problems and if the Zambian people made the mistake of making him Republican President, he will take this country 20 years backwards.

7. And the trouble with incompetent people is that they’re very difficult to dislodge from office. He has already demonstrated his traits of dictatorship by being at the helm of his UPND party for a continuous period of 14 years without ever going to a convention to give his members an opportunity to chose an alternative leader. Those are the same traits that he will carry to State House. It is unreasonable to expect someone who does not respect their own party constitution to suddenly develop the appetite to respect the Republican Constitution. Democracy is a way of life. It is not like a jacket which you can wear in the morning when it is cold and take it off in the afternoon when it becomes hot. No. It is either you are democratic or you are not. And HH is very far from being democratic.

8. On the issue of tribalism, l have no doubt that HH does not trust any other tribe other than his own. That can be clearly seen at individual level. Almost all his employees are from his tribe. When he goes to court, almost his entire army of lawyers are from his tribe. At party level, almost his entire media team is from his tribe. So if a person believes that only people from his tribe can be trusted, then how is he going to embrace the remaining tribes if he becomes Republican President? The other problem is that he strongly believes that his tribe has been unfairly treated and so, in his mind, it will be fair for him to favour his tribe if he becomes President, so as to make up for the time that he feels his tribe was marginalized. Some kind of affirmative action. Such kind of mindset will undoubtedly put this country on a downward spiral.

9. Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s credibility issues are in the public domain. For example, there is no doubt in my mind that he acted improperly during the privatization process. In fact, out of frustration he has admitted it himself on some radio programs, claiming that the Government at the time was sleeping. But if the Government was sleeping, then as a patriotic Zambian, why didn’t you wake the Government up? Why did you decide to take advantage of a sleeping Government and enrich yourself?

What Ginimbi’s Death Taught Me – Davido

0

Davido finally speaks out.

On November 8, 2020, news hit the internet about the unfortunate death of Zimbabwean socialite and businessman, Genius ‘Ginimbi’ Kadungure who died in the early hours of Sunday November 8, following a fatal car accident he was involved in along Borrowdale Road in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital city.

According to the news, the Zimbabwean celebrity was reportedly speeding down the Road when all of a sudden, he got involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming Honda Fit. The impact of the accident caused him to be thrown out of his Rolls Royce Rave. Not long after the high impact crash, the super expensive Rolls Royce car burst into flames which went on to engulf and kill the other passengers in the car.

Sadly, the 3 other passengers who were with Ginimbi died right there on the spot. He died merely hours after sharing a video of himself heading out for the birthday celebration of the woman who unfortunately died in the car accident as well, Mimie Moana. They had earlier been celebrating Moana’s birthday at the Dreams Nightclub. Ginimbi died at the very young age of 36.

This story is so sad and it caused news around the continent very quickly after it was announced. One person who took the news very hard was none other than Nigerian superstar, Davido, who apparently was friend to the late socialite.

In a new interview the singer did with DJ Cuppy on her Africa Now Radio with Cuppy show while promoting his new album, “A Better Time”, the singer opened up about the death of Ginimbi and the lesson that his friend’s unfortunate and untimely death taught him. Below is what he said.

**Before reading on, please make sure to like and follow my Facebook page so you don’t miss out on any new and interesting lists, articles, and stories that I post every single day. I have a really fun page. If you like my page, you will have fun too. So what’s stopping you? Like my page and let’s have fun together!

In the interview with DJ Cuppy, Davido first remembered the people whose lives were lost during the unfortunate Lekki Toll Gate shooting and he talked about how his song, FEM, became a sort of anthem for that protest and how he had the courage to go out and be an activist He said about that:

I got my courage from all the other youth that went out there before me. They had been protesting for days before me. So I’ll say those people gave me the courage especially the females, the women that were there protesting. When I first got there they were attacking me and people were even angry at me that why am I just coming? Where have I been?

The next day, I went to see the Inspector General of Police and it was not really productive if you ask me. What I mean by productive is the fact that they did not act on our demands. In the picture of me that circulated around social media where I was sitting on the floor with my hands in the air, all I was trying to do was to inform them that I come in peace. I watch a lot of news and protests that are staged all over the world and that is what I see them do. That is why I asked everyone to sit on the floor. It was amazing to be part of that.

Fem being the anthem for the protest was just a matter of timing. I recorded Fem since May. I did not see this coming. When I released the song, I realized that three weeks later everybody was singing it at protest grounds. When I went to the National Assembly building they said that I went to record a song for them. I had to explain to them that I had recorded the song since June. I was happy that they used my song as a voice for a non-violent protest.”

Naturally speaking about all that has been going on all the death and chaos going on all over the world, the conversation turned to Ginimbi’s death and Davido who was friends with the deceased said about his death and the lesson he learnt from it:

I feel like material things are just becoming useless to me every day. I just lost a friend he is from Zimbabwe, he was my very close friend. He was an amazing and a very great and loving guy, Ginimbi. What did he not have? He had it all. At the end of the day what his death made me realize is that all we have in this life is the air we breathe. You might be poor or rich but whatever situation you find yourself just be happy that you are alive.

A wonderful lesson to learn if you ask me. Truly in this life, the only thing we have and can be grateful for is life and breath to live every single day we see. A really good lesson indeed Davido!

Stop Your Third Term Campaigns, Come Back To Lusaka And Address The Mess, Nevers Tells Lungu

0

By Patson Chilemba

Edgar Lungu should not be in Petauke campaigning right now, he should be in Lusaka fixing the debt problem which has damaged the country, says opposition MMD leader Nevers Mumba.

And pastor Mumba said at least the MMD was fortune to find a Levy Mwanawasa at the 11th hour when Frederick Chiluba’s third term bid was rejected, but the PF may not be too fortunate to find a replacement when President Lungu’s third term bid will be stopped.

Pastor Mumba also said his party has adopted a defiance policy against the police in conducting their party programmes, saying complaining about the PF was a waste of time.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, pastor Mumba wondered what President Lungu was doing touring the country campaigning for his third term, when there was a brewing problem created by his government’s default to repay interest on the accumulated huge debts.

“The only thing that PF has is money, the police and politics. And those are the only three levers they have got left. They don’t care about the economy. They don’t care about the debt and its sustainability because if they did they would pull back and concentrate on fixing the broken economy and start to care about the people they govern,” pastor Mumba said. “So I think that the Zambians will have to make a decision, is this the direction we want to take moving forward or not. I call on the President to come back to Lusaka and understand why he was elected President.”

Pastor Mumba said the desperate matter at hand required a serious President to be in office, working around the cloak to repair the damage his government had created on the country.

“The President must come back to Lusaka and assure the nation that although the PF has destroyed our name on the global market…start to rebrand the name of Zambia on the international market,” Pastor Mumba said. “He should not be in Petauke today, he should be in Lusaka trying to fix the name of our country which is totally damaged by our failure to honour our debt obligations. That is our position. Until that is done we don’t really have a functioning government.”

Pastor Mumba further said that President Lungu was elected to ensure that there was peace, order, equity for all Zambians to be free to exercise the freedom of expression, freedom of association and freedom of speech, but he had allowed a situation where he was the only one campaigning, while those in the opposition were being brutalised by police from mobilizing.

He said there was a clear strategy by the PF to seek to hold on to power through intimidation, saying they could not win a straight election in this country, and therefore they had to stop their opponents from campaigning.

“And the only weapon left now for them besides the actual rigging, are the police who have become the wing of political operation. So our resolve is as follows to announce to all members of political parties that complaining against the PF is not the answer. We must brace ourselves for the very worst,” pastor Mumba said. “We are going to defy the instructions and the orders of the police which are unprofessional and unconstitutional. We are going to do it without violence, but we shall resist with our moral strength as a nation and if you want to shoot us, kill us like they threatened to shoot me in Vubwi, I told them to go ahead because I believe that until maybe somebody prominent dies, democracy will never come back to our country.”

Pastor Mumba said this was the time for Zambians to embrace their rights without fear, saying the MMD would not fear the police, and adding “if we perish, we perish.”

“Second of all, if we fail to achieve a level playing field as a result of this new resolve and they continue to brutalise us and stop us from addressing our members then we are going to declare an electoral dispute now and declare that 2021 is already rigged and ask Zambians not to accept, and prepare Zambians not to accept the outcome of next year,” pastor Mumba said. “Because how do we go to next year when we can’t campaign and we can’t talk to our members, when we can’t get on the ground as they are, the PF? So there is no need for us to go all that way when the PF is the only party allowed to campaign.”

And pastor Mumba said the debate on President Lungu’s third term was a purely PF issue, whose effect should not even concern the nation as the constitutional provision was very clear on the matter.

“There are lawyers, state counsels (in PF), they can call for their own indaba to debate as to whether their candidate will be allowed to stand next year. And advise accordingly. If they advise the President in the same manner the MMD advised President Chiluba in 2001, then it will be the fate of the PF,” pastor Mumba said. “At least we were privileged, although we (MMD) decided to give a third term to Dr Chiluba even against the advice of the country and when it failed at least we found a Levy Mwanawasa in the 11th hour and won the election by 2 percent.”

He said the PF may not be as privileged to find a Mwanawasa figure within the shortest possible time to compete.

“So I think this is a PF decision and they are the ones who are going to suffer the consequences in case President Lungu is not allowed to stand,” said pastor Mumba. -Daily Revelation

Ginimbi Will : Shocking Details Revealed

There may be complications and delays in winding up the estate of late businessman Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure as the will submitted this week is unsigned, with the Master’s Office at the High Court now calling a meeting of family members and other potential beneficiaries for next week to sort out the way forward and deal with administrative details such as the appointment of the executor.

The will would probably make it clear who would be sharing the revenue from the proposed trust as well as who would be the trustees, or at least how these would be appointed.

Generally the wishes of a dead person expressed in a will are followed, although the law makes provision for the continued maintenance of those being looked after by the estate before the death, along with other concerns.

The picture collage shows Genius “Ginimbi’’ Kadungure’s Domboshava mansion and his fleet of fast and expensive cars

A Harare man, Mr Nomatter Zinyengere, claiming to be Mr Kadungure’s best friend, this week registered the deceased’s estate and unsuccessfully tried to push the Master of High Court into accepting the unsigned will.

Although Genius’s father Anderson Kadungure and sisters Juliet and Neria were listed as possible beneficiaries of the estate, Mr Zinyengere has been leading the legal process.

It was not immediately clear if Mr Zinyengere was “KIT-KAT”. An online check identified Zinyengere as the director of a South African registered company called KAT Group, which was incorporated in August 2019.

The will shows that Kadungure owned the Domboshava mansion, a company called Infinity Gas, an undisclosed fleet of vehicles and several other companies.

The custodians of the unsigned will, Ranros Estate Administrators, wrote a cover letter seeking the speedy acceptance of the unsigned document as the actual last will and testament for the distribution of the estate.

They argued that some of Kadungure’s companies in Botswana have stopped operating since that country requires an estate to be reported to the authorities before operations can resume.

“The deceased died before signing his last will and testament. We are therefore kindly asking your office to urgently convene a meeting with all beneficiaries so that you can accept the will and issue the court sealed letters of administration.

“The major fear of the beneficiaries is that the business partners of the deceased in Botswana might take advantage and vandalise the assets of the deceased,” reads part of the letter.

However, the Office of the Master through a letter signed by K F Chigomararwa, an Additional Master of High Court in-charge of the Deceased Estates, refused to be pushed into accepting the unsigned will.

Instead, she asked the Kadungure family members and other beneficiaries to attend a meeting on Wednesday next week.

“We are, however, not convinced by the reason, given that a company is a separate legal persona from its owner and that same is usually run by directors. Thus, in our view, the death of the shareholder or a director does not necessarily affect the day-to-day running of a company.

“We, however, we will convene the inquiry, with regards to the will on Wednesday November 25, 2020, at 11.30am at this office, before the undersigned.

“Depending on the outcome of the inquiry, the issue of executorship may also be discussed.

“Kindly notify the deceased’s family and interested parties of the said meeting in order that they may attend,” reads the response.

Sources said the unsigned will state the Domboshava mansion, while part of the proposed trust, should be turned into a hotel to be run by the trustees.

Ginimbi died on the spot on November 8 along Liberation Legacy Way in Harare when his speeding Rolls Royce collided head-on with a Honda Fit.

It veered off the road and hit a tree before catching fire. He was with two foreigners who had come for the Saturday night party of a friend Mitchelle Amuli.

Limumba Karim from Malawi and a Mozambican, who was only identified as Alishia and the birthday girl, Mitchelle were burnt beyond recognition after the doors of the Rolls Royce jammed on impact and it took many hours for police and the Fire Brigade to retrieve their remains from the wreckage.-Herald

Nkombo seeks to challenge Matibini’s “contradictory” ruling

0

GARY Nkombo has written to Clerk of the National Assembly, seeking to challenge Speaker Patrick Matibini’s ruling over a point of order concerning three PF members of parliament who did not vote for Bill 10.

The Mazabuka Central UPND member of parliament stated that he wished to challenge the decision of Dr Matibini on a matter of conflicting rulings.

Nkombo noted that Section 23 (d) of the National Assembly (Powers and Privileges) Act state that, “Any person shall be guilty of an offence who – sends to any member any threatening letter,” – which is the case now – or challenge any member to a fight, on account of his conduct as such member”.

He recalled that PF secretary general Davies Mwila wrote letters to Frank Ng’ambi (Chifubu Constituency) Eulario Musonda (Kamfinsa Constituency) and Kabaso Kampampi (Mwansabombwe Constituency) to exculpate themselves for failing to vote for Bill 10.

“As a result of Mr Mwila’s act, Monze [Central UPND] member of parliament Jack Mwiimbu raised a point of order in relation to the Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general’s letter to three named MPs asking them to exculpate themselves as to their failure to vote for Bill 10,” Nkombo stated. “Presiding over the matter, chairperson, Hon. Catherine Namugala ruled as follows: ‘…unless, of course, as you have said, you can show evidence that those particular Hon members are being punished for what they have done in the House while enjoying their privileges, as Hon. members of parliament”.

He stated that arising from that ruling, he raised a point of order pursuant to the National Assembly (Powers and Privileges) Act and adduced evidence, “as guided by the ruling of the First Deputy Speaker on the same matter as highlighted above”.

Nkombo stated that in his ruling, Dr Matibini said, “…these letters you are bringing here are a subject of internal proceedings of a political grouping. It is work in progress. I am also alive to the fact that we do not have strict rules of loci standi, but I am left to wonder why we have these busybodies.”

“In view of the above, I wish to state that the Speaker’s ruling contradicts the earlier as such creates a procedural crisis as we are left to wonder which ruling shall bind future decisions,” he stated. “Further, refer to the point of order raised by Kanchibiya MP Hon. Dr Martin Malama on December 5th, 2019, in which he quoted an item reported by the Zambia Daily Mail, alleging that ‘United Party for National Development (UPND) secretary general Hon. Stephen Katuka had issued threats to two honourable MPs, namely Prof Geoffrey Lungwangwa and Teddy Kasonso on how they decided to deal with the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill No. 10 of 2019.’ Based on this point of order, Hon Katuka was summoned by your committees on Privileges, Absences and Support Services to exculpate himself.”

Nkombo is seeking “a one-third of the House to endorse the challenge to the Speaker’s ruling forthwith.”

Lelo balasebena ba pompwe munshibila nsala! MOF STRUGGLING TO BALANCE FIGURES…before the IMF team comes in – M’membe

0

FRED M’membe has told finance minister Bwalya Ng’andu not to continue protecting criminals.

He was commenting on the Zambian government’s failure to honour its debt servicing obligations, at his Garden Compound office in Lusaka yesterday.

Dr M’membe, the Socialist Party president, recalled that on September 22 this year, Dr Ng’andu announced that he had made a request to bondholders to suspend debt servicing for six months because: “Zambia was not in a position to meet her debt servicing obligations due on October 14, 2020.”

“As you may be aware, 40 per cent of bondholders immediately refused to grant Zambia debt servicing suspension,” Dr M’membe, an economist, said on behalf of the politburo of the Socialist Party. “The Zambian government had hoped that when 60 per cent of bondholders met last Friday, which was the last day of the one month grace period given to pay from the initial due date, the bondholders would agree with their proposals. But they too refused.”

Zambia has officially become the first country in Africa to default on Eurobonds, albeit it already defaulted on other unknown Chinese debt obligations.

Dr M’membe expressed the Socialist Party’s concern with the lack of seriousness from the Treasury when dealing with such important issues.

He said Zambia had plenty human resource that: “we have invested in as a country and worked at the highest level at both the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.”

Dr M’membe said it was an embarrassment to Zambia that Dr Ng’andu “lied” about his engagement with bondholders, “only for them to issue a statement the following day that there had been no direct contact between them and the Zambian government.”

“Why did Dr Bwalya Ng’andu lie to the nation? Is he covering up on the debt that was borrowed under the cover of darkness?” Dr M’membe wondered. “They say, ‘you can run but you can’t hide…You can fool some people all the time, but you can’t fool all people all the time.’”

He stressed that reality had finally dawned on the PF government.

Dr M’membe said what the international community was demanding is transparency on the Chinese debt obligations.

“The demand by the Minister of Finance, through his representatives, that bondholders should sign a non-disclosure agreement before he discloses the extent of Chinese debt and the conditions attached thereof should be of interest to every Zambian because this is public debt which you will all pay for,” he said.

He said most of the loans have inflated figures because of amounts a few greedy individuals collected as facilitation fees.

Dr M’membe said the international community was well aware of the extent of corruption and was now collaborating with bondholders to expose how corrupt the government was.

“As the Socialist Party, we wish to announce to the nation that the reason why this government has since 2016 refused to open its books to the IMF on the Chinese debt is because that would reveal the Patriotic Front’s massive penchant for bribes,” Dr M’membe noted. “Once that information on the Chinese debt is given, it will reveal how much money was shared and by who. At the moment, Ministry of Finance officials have been struggling to balance the figures before the IMF team comes in. Dr Ng’andu must not continue protecting criminals. There is no place for them to hide anymore!”

According to Dr M’membe, Dr Ng’andu has two options; either he reveals the actual figures of the Chinese debt and the PF goes down: “so that we can protect our economy or he lets Patriotic Front continue hiding their nefarious acts and we all go down.”

“Dr Ng’andu has to make that choice because time is of essence. Thankfully, since we cannot demand accountability and transparency from the powerful politicians and their fellow gangsters outside government, a far more powerful group has come to our rescue,” noted Dr M’membe.

“Lelo balasebena ba pompwe munshibila nsala (today, these petty thieves will be embarrassed).”

BoZ won’t print money not backed by economic activity – Mvunga

0

CENTRAL Bank governor Christopher Mvunga says the institution has no intention of printing money to mitigate the poor performance of the local currency.

Mvunga says people are free to criticise his appointment because he is a public officer.

The Central Bank’s monetary policy committee (MPC) has resolved to maintain the policy at the current eight per cent rate.

Addressing journalists in Lusaka yesterday on the MPC’s decision, Mvunga said the Bank could only print money if economic requirements necessitated so.

“… on the future inflation outlook we projected as Bank of Zambia that it will be on a decline. What we’ve said is that in 2021 it’s expected to decline to 13. 5 per cent, and further in 2022 to 10 per cent. Now, 2022 is past the election cycle. Now if you print money which is not backed by an economic activity, there is no way that the Bank of Zambia could be projecting an inflation decline of 10 percent in 2022,” he said. “So, our numbers would have shown you to support the argument of printing money without being backed, we would have said our inflation target in 2022 would be 30 per cent because bringing in money which is not backed by commerce pushes inflation up to a point of hyper-inflation. So, I think our projections in themselves as a Central Bank or where we see inflation going is talking to you about the measures which were not seen: excess liquidity or unconventional liquidity hitting the market to an extent where we get into hyper-inflationary environment.”

He said if there was any intention of printing money, the BoZ would not have projected a decline in inflation by 2022.

“So, I think our numbers talk to themselves that 2021, 13.5 per cent inflation projection; 2022, way outside the election cycle, 10 per cent, which is signaling to you that the Bank is looking at managing inflation downwards. Printing of money, by contrast, will be managing inflation upwards. So if you do a detailed analysis in terms of presentation, you will see that there is no scope for unconventional means of printing money.”

And Mvunga said people should not expect him as an individual to influence decisions at BoZ because the institution has got rules that it follows.

This was after a journalist asked him for a guarantee that there will be no laxity on the monetary policy because of the negative public perception about him.

“Understand that Bank of Zambia is an institution. Bank of Zambia is not Mvunga. Bank of Zambia has got systems, structures, guidelines, procedures, adherence to best international practice. So, don’t confuse myself with the institution. I’m just heading the institution. The institution is bigger than me,” Mvunga said. “So, there are rules in which the Bank operates, there are guidelines in which the Bank operates. The Bank is a member of international institutions, Zambia is a member of international institutions such as the IMF and World bank. So, there are all these institutions that are seeing what’s happening. We subscribed to be a member of international settlements, we’re a board member of Africa Exim Bank, we’re a member of all these other institutions. I don’t think they’ll sit back and just watch the Bank of Zambia perform recklessly because of an individual.”

He pleaded with stakeholders to detach politics from the Central Bank.

“So, I don’t see any issue myself, it’s a perception. And I’ll urge all stakeholders that for the benefit of the country, keep politics away from the Central Bank. Our job is a professional job, it’s not a political job. Secondly, appointments to public office, like any other office, attract criticism both constructive, non-constructive and detractors. So, it is not unusual for me to be criticised. It is expected when you go into a public office,” Mvunga said. “So, I’m neither moved myself nor fenced, nor disappointed. It’s expected. It’s a public office appointment and it’s subject to scrutiny; and different people view differently. As much as you may say there are so many people that have criticised me, I can equally say there are so many people that have overwhelmingly supported me. So, my job is not to worry about who is criticising me. It’s the nature of the position. We’ll be criticised. Even decisions we are making today, there will be an economist who will think we should have done otherwise…I think my key focus is to ensure that we drive this country to economic stability; that is my key focus.”

Meanwhile, in his presentation, Mvunga said after considering several factors, the MPC decided not to adjust the monetary policy in either direction.

The policy rate is the rate that is used by the central bank to implement or signal its monetary policy stance.

The policy varies per country and is explained in the metadata.

For example, in some countries the central bank policy rate is the discount rate while in others it is a repurchase agreement rate.

“With inflation on the rise, conventionally, raising the policy rate in an effort to control inflation would have been expected. However, doing so, in an already depressed economic situation, would result in further contraction in economic activity and threaten the stability of the financial sector,” said Mvunga. “On the other hand, reducing the policy rate in an attempt to give further support to the economy may put additional pressure on the exchange rate in a supply constrained environment. This may worsen the inflation outlook. Considering all these factors, including the significant reduction in the policy rate by 350 basis points in 2020 and to allow monetary policy measures to take full effect, the MPC decided to maintain the policy rate at 8.0 per cent.”

Just Politics; by Aaron Ng’ambi: in defense of HH

0

The most dangerous thing any person can do is to take a position on an issue for which they do not fully understand. It is therefore regrettable that I have to dedicate this whole article to try and enlighten our people and make them understand that the new allegations against President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) of the United Party for National Development (UPND) have no bases in law and only amount to malice on the part of his political enemies.
It is not my nature to write articles on individuals when it comes to politics, because I am very much aware that politicians come and go but the relevant issues affecting the country and our people still remain. Therefore, my approach has always been to focus on playing the ball rather than playing the man. And as I attempt to do so, I have found myself writing about the likes of John Sangwa or Archbishop Mpundu not because I favour such influential figures, but rather it is because such people have suffered at the hands of the current regime in one way of the other without just cause. Thus, for me I would not be a man to stand by and watch innocent citizens suffer or are targeted by the state machinery simply because they have a different opinion and views from that of the present government. It is on this basis that I strongly feel compelled to shed some light on the allegations against Hichilema with regards to his alleged name change and role in privatisation.

Let us begin by dealing with the issue of president HH having two national registration cards and having changed his name from Hakainde Sammy Hichilema to just Hakainde Hichilema as told to us by one so called opposition political party president. First and foremost, if our friend who claims to be an opposition leader had thought through this issue and done a little bit of research before uttering such rubbish, then he would have know that his allegations against HH are absolutely a piece of fantastic nonsense. The Zambian laws under the Registration Act, just like many laws in other countries including the United States provides for the right of any person or persons to change their names at will. Therefore, as an example, if my name is Fred Mwamba Chisanga and one day I wake up and decide that I no longer want to be called by this name and want to either remove my middle name (Mwamba) or even change my entire name completely; I can do so at will and without offering an explanation to anyone as to why I am changing my name. There is nothing wrong with changing one’s identity or name as long as they have gone through the due process and met all the legal requirements needed to effect such a change. There are many Zambians who have changed their names and taken upon themselves other names without giving anyone any explanation, which is perfectly fine according to the law. For example, Reagan Blankfein Gates, who is a prominent and respected Zambian lawyer and author, changed his name from whatever he was called to his current name which he even uses for his law firm. Hence, to victimise HH for changing his name from Hakainde Sammy Hichilema to simply Hakainde Hichilema as alleged is nothing but a case of profiling. We know that those who want to make an issue of this matter either lack understanding in as far as the laws of name changing are concerned or they just want to find anything and everything on the man to try and disadvantage him from participating in the August 2021 elections, which is next year.

Also, we should point out that when someone changes their name or identity, then a new national registration card will be issued to them under the new name. Therefore, the idea that HH has two national registration card numbers and that the police must investigate him is nothing but laughable, because if it is true that HH removed Sammy from his original name and did this legally, then the new identity of Hakainde Hichilema cannot bear the same NRC number as the previous name Hakainde Sammy Hichilema. So, let me advise our friends in the opposition who seem to be excited about baseless issues just to get attention; please do not expose your stupidity, and do a little bit of research before you spread ignorance among the masses. There is nothing criminal or illegal that HH has done if at all he changed his name from Hakainde Sammy Hichilema to simply Hakainde Hichilema. And according to the National Registration Act, he owes no one an explanation for doing so, not even the chief registrar in charge of facilitating this process.

Now, let this be on record that my attempt to come to the rescue of president HH, whom I have only met once and do not have any relations with at all only stems from a sense to duty as a citizen because anyone can see that HH is being targeted by a bunch of interesting individuals out of malice and we cannot allow that. Also, I believe that we collectively have an obligation to educate and re-educate our people with regards to doing the right thing despite the challenges at hand. As a country, we have come so far to allow light-minded people to divide us, and sow seeds of hatred among us. These vuvuzela politicians that will do anything for 30 pieces of silver cannot be left to make baseless allegations against respected men and women in our society without challenging them. Lest we forget, we have had politicians in the past and perhaps some of them present who have changed their names from time to time, and no one saw it fit to make their actions a matter of public discourse.

Lastly, the issue of privatisation and the alleged role that HH played is nothing but an old song that is off beat now. It is clear that the Patriotic Front (PF) government today is absolutely in panic and are acting out of desperation to try and do anything and everything in an attempt to pin down their number one opponent so that he cannot be on the ballot next year and the privatisation issue is their only last hope because all other tricks and tactics have failed, including Bill 10. Just as a reminder to our friends in the government, no one can fight the wheels of change once they begin to turn. Therefore, the PF will do well to let fate take its course and allow for the people of Zambia to express themselves freely now and next year during the elections.

What are the consequences of Zambia defaulting on her debt obligations?

0

With Zambia defaulting on its debt obligations, we should brace ourselves for very hard times ahead.

What we need to bear in mind is that sovereign default is just like a default on debt by a private individual or business, but by a national government that fails to repay its interest or principal due.

This default may result in a government facing higher interest rates and a lower credit rating among lenders, making it more difficult to borrow.

And we hope this government will not be tempted to do crazy things with its domestic borrowing

and resort to printing more money and “inflating” their way out of debt.

This defaulting will have very serious consequences for our economy. If potential lenders or bond purchasers begin to suspect that a government may fail to pay back its debt, they will sometimes demand a higher interest rate as compensation for the risk of default. This is sometimes referred to as a sovereign debt crisis, which is a dramatic rise in the interest rate faced by a government due to fear that it will fail to honour its debt.

In the event of a country’s default, or an increase in the risk of default, a country’s sovereign credit rating will likely suffer. A credit rating agency will take into account the country’s interest expense, extraneous and procedural defaults, and failures to abide by the terms of bonds.

If borrowers were to experience dramatically higher payments as the result of a debt default, the result would be substantially less disposable income to spend on goods and services, which could ultimately lead to a recession.

When default occurs, the government’s bond yields rise precipitously, creating a ripple effect throughout the domestic economy.

Inflation has sometimes helped countries to escape the true burden of their debt. When a country issues its own currency and borrows money in that currency, it has the option of simply creating more currency to repay its debt. Most often, this is carried out through the operation of a government’s central bank, which buys and holds (or continuously rolls over) newly-issued government debt in return for newly created money that the government can then spend. This practice is known as monetizing the debt and is similar to the currently widespread monetary policy known as quantitative easing.

Other times, when faced with extreme debt, some governments have devalued their currency, which they do by printing more money to apply toward their own debts. In the past, this was also accomplished by ending or altering the convertibility of their currencies into precious metals or metal-backed foreign currency at fixed rates.

These practices represent an implicit default on sovereign debt in that they result in the government’s debt being nominally repaid in terms of money that has lost much of its purchasing power. Like a formal default, they may result in rising interest rates for the sovereign and reduced willingness by lenders to buy or hold the country’s debt.

What police did to Dr Nevers Mumba in Vubwi should be condemned

We run the risk of sounding like broken records. It is actually a shame that we have to keep talking about the same thing over and over again. We are tempted to get discouraged and perhaps give up. Those thoughts torment our peace. Here and there. Why should we talk about these things if change is not coming our way?

What happened to MMD leader, Nevers Mumba in Vubwi last week is a huge shame. Dr Mumba was on his way to drum up support for his party. When he turned with his entourage to visit the town of Vubwi; or is it a village – a battalion of armed paramilitary police stopped the MMD leader from proceeding any further into Vubwi. The police have invented a law that does not exist in Zambia. And they are using bombs, guns and teargas to enforce that law. The police are mightily mistaken that a citizen of our country needs their permission to visit Vubwi. It is not the first time that the police are behaving in this brutal manner. Just a few weeks ago, they stopped UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema from visiting Mpika. This is entirely unacceptable and is a violation of common sense, the constitution, and applicable laws.

As stated above, there is no justifiable reason why the police should stop Nevers or HH from traversing the length and breadth of this beautiful country. These two gentlemen are citizens of our country, and they have the freedom of “amayendele”. The freedom to go anywhere they want to go. This idea that the national police must intervene on behalf of the ruling party to stop politicians who pose the political risk to the ruling PF is deplorable.

But to whom should we apportion this blame for the nonsense going on in the Zambia Police Service? Is this kind of behaviour as a result of rogue officers who have decided to ignore the law, common sense and the constitution? Where are the police officers getting the guts or the audacity to block a road, so that does not visit Vubwi?

This kind of recklessness is as a result of the reckless leadership at the top. The police are violating the rights of our people because President Lungu lets them do it. The President tolerates this nonsense, and that is the reason why this nonsense keeps escalating and torturing our people. How else can one explain this blatant violation of Nevers’ and HH’s human rights? The fundamental human rights of the freedom to move from Lusaka to Vubwi and vice-versa.

We need to remind the police. Once more, that our resolve to talk about this shall not be defeated. As long as the police continue to behave in this illegal manner, we shall continue to address this issue. As long as the President continues to tolerate this – we shall all not tolerate this President and his party.

Zambia is a democracy. It does not belong to one individual or the cabal of his benefactors. To flourish as a democracy, Zambians must freely assemble, organise, and exchange ideas. This they must do without having to fear bombs, guns and tear gas sent by President Lungu.
The freedom fighters who fought for Zambian liberties worked hard so that Zambians will cease to be slaves to autocrats. It is deplorable that we must come and lose these liberties now. And as long as the good Lord continues to bless us with a breath, we shall continue to breathe for the rule of law and common sense.

I am optimistic that Zambia will change for the better. But for us to imagine that future together, we must first urge the President and his police to stop arbitrary arrests, illegal blockades of citizens, and the thuggery behaviour of ruling party cadres.

ARE NEXT YEAR’S GENERAL ELECTIONS GOING TO BE LIKE A 93RD PENALTY FOR PF OR UPND?

_PART 1_

ARE NEXT YEAR’S GENERAL ELECTIONS GOING TO BE LIKE A 93RD PENALTY FOR PF OR UPND?

…This is like a Make it Or Break it Sort of an affair; A Piece Of Advice Should be honored like an all white dove…..

By; Cornel Zimba

I am writing this with a heavy heart embedded in pain curved by perennial and avoidable disappointment which has been artificially erected to frustrate deep rooted PF members during this ongoing voter registration exercise. Why do i say so? Here are the facts:

1. Firstly, PF seems so comfortable as though we have already won the elections whereby leaving tight doors loosen. On the other hand, Upnd is taking this process with great seriousness it deserves.

2. We have witnessed Upnd ferrying cadres from Mazabuka to Lusaka to have them registered while PF leaders are comfortably seated in their aircon offices and believing all is well.

3. More voter registration kits have been dotted throughout southern province and our hands are folded waiting for Jesus Christ to come and help us.

4. Upnd has planted people in strategic places to facilitate the process while PF is busy as usual and not taking things with the seriousness it deserves.

5. Upnd’s target is to swallow three major stronghold provinces for PF and we still think life is as normal as it used to be 3-4 years ago.

6. We saw how MMD leaders started hiding in curves and if that does not remind us and the leadership per say, then we better start doing press ups in readiness for jail.

7. During NRC registration process, a handful of PF members of Parliament went to their constituencies to sensitize the constituents on the need of getting NRCs. On contrast, Upnd MPs mobilized themselves in every possible aspect. Not to mention the downfall of Bill 10 as a sign.

8. PF members have become too arrogant to emulate what our friends are doing worse than MMD regime.

9. Upnd knows how to hold each other’s hand in this moment because they know that the election has already commenced in the making, while PF is still holding on till the right time approaches. When is the right time?

10. In Upnd strongholds, people are turning up in numbers even when they are not yet in power, why can’t PF also mobilize enough resources to bring more people to register?

The time to act fast is now! If there is going to be a future for PF, then that future should be seen now. If we are going to win next year, better we start winning now. The more people register in our strongholds, the greater the chances of us to return power! I rest my case.

Nawakwi files defense against HH, says her utterances were fair comment

FDD leader Edith Nawakwi says her utterances on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema that he was a criminal, acquired property on Serval road in Kabulonga, allegations relating to the receivership of RAMCOZ and the abuse of the privatisation process are of fair comment.

Nawakwi said the said allegations were factual and true in substance as she was expressing her opinion, adding that the words were of fair comment and made without malice as the said facts are a matter of public interest.

This is in a matter where Hichilema has sued Nawakwi for defamation of character demanding US$ 3 million as damages for libel.

In her defense Nawakwi argued that she is not the first person to raise the issue of Hichilema’s acquisition of property No. Subdivision 14/3/A/F488a Serval Road Kabulonga Lusaka claiming The Post Newspaper limited (in liquidation) on Friday May 18,2007 wrote about the said allegations in its editorial, including the Times of Zambia on January 14,2012.

Nawakwi said she admitts that the details relating to the liquidation of Lima Bank limited are supposed to be a matter of public record and they call for accountability and transparency.

She claimed that she had conducted a search at the lands and deeds registry which revealed that on March 28, 1989 a Samson Siatembo mortgaged Farm no. 1924 whose area was 2,415.5580 hectares Kalomo District Southern province to secure K10,600 from Lima Bank limited.

“On September 14,2005 Lima Bank limited (in liquidation) caused the registration of memorandum of discharge of the mortgage relating to Farm no.1924 whose area was 192.9050 hectares,” Nawakwi said

She further stated that Hichilema acquired the said farm at a consideration of k 110,000,000 and the payment of property transfer tax of K3,300,000 was certified by the registrar of lands and deeds on September 14,2004.

Nawakwi said the assignment of subdivision A Farm 1924 at the consideration of K110,000,000 area 2.222.6540 hectares was registered the assignor being Feluna Hatembo (administratrix of the Estate of Samson Hatembo) and the assignee being Hakainde Sammy Hichilema, but the search did not reveal any evidence of requisite authority of the court to sell the property.

The FDD leader who referred to other related cases before the Livingstone High Court and Kalomo Subordinate Court explained that she conducted a search at Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) which revealed that Hichilema is a shareholder and has interest in African life Financial Services Zambia limited, Sanlam Life Insurance Zambia limited, Menel Management Services limited, Tiyende Consortium limited incorporated and Benefits Consultancy services limited.

Nawakwi said on March 25, 1997 Lima Bank limited was placed under liquidation and Messers Edgar Hamuwele and Christopher Mulenga both of Grant Thornton were appointed as joint liquidators and she produce evidence at trial relating to the operation of Lima Bank limited (in liquidation) account no.00302400006373 maintained at Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO).

She stated that Hichilema may not have acted as a receiver, manager or liquidator of Lima Bank but Grant Thornton was actively involved in the liquidation process and disposal of assets of the said Bank.

“As a citizen of Zambia the defendant possess the sufficiency of interest and legitimate concern relating to the plaintiff’s non disclosure of interest. The plaintiff did not disclose at the material time, has not disclosed and continues to resist disclosure,” Nawakwi claimed. “It is trite law that the claim for purpoted liquidated special damages ina tortious liability suit is inadequate and is legally incompetent.”

Nawakwi further submitted that the endorsement of the particulars of claim for libel on the writ of summons and statement of claim are incompetent.

” Save as is admitted herein before the defendant denies each and every allegation contained in the statement of claim as if the same was particularly set out and traversed seriatim,” said Nawakwi.

UPND MPs To Move A Motion Against Matibini For Tolerating The Abuse Of Parliamentary Privileges

UPND MPs TO MOVE A MOTION AGAINST MATIBINI FOR TOLERATING THE ABUSE OF PARLIAMENTARY PRIVILEGES.

By George Lemba

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has commenced a process of moving a motion in Parliament against Speaker of National Assembly, Dr Patrick Matibini for allowing the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General, Davies Mwila to abuse parliamentary privileges in relation to PF MPs who didn’t vote for the collapsed Bill Number 10 of 2019.

PF Secretary General, Davies Mwila on 4th November, 2020, wrote to PF Kamfinsa MP, Elalio Musonda, Chifubu MP, Frank Ngambi and Mwansabombwe MP, Kabaso Kampampi to show cause as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for not votingfor Bill10.

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Jack Mwiimbu raised a point of order wondering whether this was not a contravention of section three of the Parliamentary Privileges Act.

And UPND Mazabuka Central lawmaker, Garry Nkombo says he and other MPs have since commenced the process of gathering signatures to move a motion of censure against Dr Matibini.

Hon Nkombo stated that the resolve by him and a number of MPs to move a motion against Dr Matibini had been necessitated by what he called the “unfair” ruling on the matter by both Dr Matibini and his deputy First Deputy Speaker, Catherine Namugala who stated that they were not competent to rule on a matter that had to do with the internal issues of the Patriotic Front.

But Hon Nkombo wondered why Dr Matibini was swift in summoning UPND Secretary General, Stephen Katuka to appear before him to answer to similar matters following a report in the Zambia Daily Mail that he intended to punish three UPND MPs who defied a party directive not to vote for Bill 10.

“I and other MPs have since commenced the process of gathering signatures to push for a motion against Dr Matibini for giving an impartial ruling when Hon. Jack Mwiimbu rose on a point of order over PF SG Davies Mwila’s decision to threaten disciplinary action against three of its MPs who didn’t vote for Bill 10. Dr Matibini had earlier ruled that he couldn’t interfere in the internal affairs of the PF while he was quick to summon Hon. Katuka on hearsay over a similar matter. So, we have already gather a number of signatures and as soon as we are done, we will table this motion,” said Hon Nkombo.

Lusaka woman wants K1 million from Hungry Lion over maggots in chicken and chips

Lusaka woman wants K1 million from Hungry Lion over maggots in chicken and chips

A LUSAKA resident has sued Hungry Lion Limited demanding K1 million as compensation for negligence for failing to provide clean, safe and healthy food, by serving her Chicken and Chips which had maggots.

Bertha Bwale wants the Lusaka High Court to compel Hungry Lion Limited to award her general damages, damages for mental anguish, stress, inconvenience, compensation of K1,000,000 costs and any other relief that the court may deem fit.

Bwale in her statement of claim said that on September 5, 2019 whilst in the company of two other friends went to the defedant’s hungry Lion outlet at Manda Hill to have a meal and she ordered chicken and chips.

Bwale stated that she was served with the food as ordered and started consuming it and in the process of the same she noticed maggots in the food.

“ The plaintiff then vomited while crying with grief as she was nauseated continuously,” she claimed.

She said that she brought the issue to the attention of one of Hungry Lion’s staff who brushed the issue aside.

Bwale claimed that upon being ignored by the said employee she reported the matter to the Lusaka City Council (LCC) and later to the Ministry of Health Food and Drugs control laboratory who conducted laboratory tests on the food.

The complainant said that the existence of maggots in the food was confirmed by the results, after a foreign matter identification and bacteriological analysis was duly performed.

Bwale alleged that as a result of eating the food she experienced a running stomach for four days, was nauseated for two weeks and generally fell ill for two months.

She further claimed that as a result of her experience she has failed to eat her favorite food “chicken and chips” from any other place.

Bwale said that the particulars of negligence by hungry lion were that it failed to provide clean, safe and healthy food, failed to check the state of the food before serving it to her and for failing to provide first aid to her upon discovering maggots in the food and reporting to its (Hungry Lion) staff.

She claimed that she has suffered damage, loss and inconvenience in her normal way of life as a result of the said negligence of Hungry Lion Limited.

TAKE LUNGU 2021 BID SERIOUSLY…it can be path for future leaders refusing to step down, warns Chief Hamusonde

0

CHIEF Hamusonde is advising President Edgar Lungu not to force himself on Zambians.

Hamusonde (r) urges Zambians to take the eligibility issue of President Lungu very serious and set the platform for the future because once disorder is allowed, “prosperity will never forgive us”.

He says President Lungu should emulate chiefs who do not force people to “choose us when they know that we are ineligible” to assume the position.

Hamusonde said if Zambians keep silent and legitimise President Lungu’s third term bid future heads of state would also refuse to leave office knowing that Zambians won’t do anything.

In an interview, Hamusonde of Bweengwa in Monze district said Zambia is backtracking its gains on democracy.

“President Edgar Lungu is a letdown, especially to the law profession because he is the one who is supposed to toe a clean path to democracy. It pains to see the nation being diverted to a topic of President Lungu’s eligibility to contest the 2021 presidency when we have serious issues affecting millions of Zambians especially in rural areas where people especially women have to walk long distances to access medical treatment. And that is if they would find the required drugs at all,” he said. “We have a lot of youths on the streets unemployed, many teachers not recruited, many retirees not paid their dues, and yet there is money to pay youths and women in the name of empowerment. So my simple advice to President Lungu is that: ‘Don’t force yourself on Zambians. We, as chiefs, do not force people to choose us when they know that we are ineligible.”

Hamusonde said Zambians must take the eligibility issue of President Lungu very serious because it could be a stepping stone for future heads of state to refuse to step down.

“If, we as, Zambians allow disorder, prosperity will never forgive us because we will be setting future presidents on the path to refuse leaving office even when they lose or they are not eligible,” said Hamusonde. “So let’s set the platform for our future. Zambia is not ours alone, there are many Zambians being born today, others tomorrow and others 50 years from now. So what do we say to them? Break the law with impunity or follow the law to the letter. It’s all on us, we have a chance next year. Do we want tribal politics to continue? Do we want violence in politics to continue? Do we want politics of insults? Do we want corruption and theft to continue? Nepotism to show its ugly head? It all stops with us next year.”

Last Wednesday, President Lungu told traditional leaders in Mukushi district in Central Province that the Constitutional Court had cleared him to stand again.

President Lungu, who spoke mostly in Bemba, also accused the opposition UPND of misinforming the nation that he wanted to use the failed infamous National Assembly (Amendment) Bill No. 10 of 2019 to push for his eligibility.

“…pantu muli Bill 10 tamwaba icibi icalimo iyo. Ati muli Bill 10 muli third term ya Edgar Lungu, tamwaba third term mulya, iyo. Ba ConCourt batile Lungu acitafye one term, ukufuma mu 2016 ukufika lelo ine ni one term (…because in Bill 10 there was nothing bad. That in Bill 10 there is Lungu’s third term, there is no third term there.

The ConCourt said Lungu has just served one term, from 2016 to today I’ve just done one term),” said President Lungu. “Ilya nabombele iyashile ba Sata one year six months teyandi yaba Sata, efyo balanda ku court. Nomba caisa kosa shani? Mu Bill 10 tamuli mulandu ati Lungu alefwaya ukubwelela imiku itatu, fyabufi. (The one-year six months that I served which Mr Sata left, it’s not mine but Mr Sata’s, that’s what the court said. But where is the problem? There is no issue in Bill 10, but people are saying that Lungu wants to go for a third term, those are lies).”

Pokello says Ginimbi bedroom was “a public space for friends”

0

In an attempt to bury rumours that the late socialite Genius ‘Ginimbi’ Kadungure had a snake that gave him money in his bedroom, fellow socialite and close friend Pokello Nare has made it clear in her tribute that Ginimbi had nothing to hide as he let her use his bathroom in the bedroom.

Pokello posted a heartfelt tribute to her friend of 15 years, Ginimbi who died in a horrific car accident on 08 November.

Social media was flooded with rumours and conspiracies that the flamboyant businessman used witchcraft (kuromba) to attain his wealth and had a snake in his bedroom which vomited money for him.

Implying that Ginimbi had nothing to hide in his bedroom Pokello wrote, “Your bedroom was a public space for all your close friends, in a house with 10 bathrooms, you would say ‘Poki go ude the one in the bedroom’.”

The former big brother housemate also addressed rumors of Ginimbi having to have ‘sacrificed’ his mother and brother.

“The death of Andrew who they accused you of ‘sacrificing’. He had suffered from a heart condition for years, you had flown him out for surgery and done everything that your money could allow you but still they say, ‘he didn’t take care of his family.’”

“Mama’s cancer was detected too late but you paid hospital bills at Avenues for years till the inevitable happened. They will still say, ‘he sacrificed’ his mother.” Pokello narrated.

Among other things Pokello revealed how Ginimbi made it out of poverty with only one ‘O level’ subject, Agriculture.

“I want to tell them you only got one ‘O Level’ subject which was Agriculture. You didn’t even collect the results,” Pokello wrote.

Regardless of failing to attain the expected results and educational level Pokello said Ginimbi had a level of street savvy that was captivating.

‘You had a knack for the right opportunities, you knew which deals would have the highest returns. Gas, fuel, Tobacco, Machinery, Promoter Nightclubs, Real Estate, Transport and GCK securities,” said Pokello.

Pokello says she had been friends with Ginimbi for 15 years and had seen him struggle to reach the top. She said people only started questioning him when he got to the top.

“The moment you move out of your situation they want a conclusive report as to how you have achieved that,” she wrote.

Ginimbi was laid to rest on Saturday. Nehanda Radio
