Diddy sued by woman accusing him of s33x trafficking her

Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing serious allegations in a new lawsuit filed by former porn star Adria English, who claims the music mogul coerced her into sex trafficking at his famous parties and threatened to blackball her and her model boyfriend if she didn’t comply.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, English, known by her stage name Omunique, met Diddy around 2004 when her boyfriend auditioned for a Sean John modelling gig. She alleges that during the audition, Diddy demanded her boyfriend and another model perform oral sex on him to secure the job. Her boyfriend refused but was later offered the job on the condition that English work as a “go-go dancer” at Diddy’s white party in the Hamptons.

English and her boyfriend agreed, and she worked the Labor Day weekend 2004 party. She claims she was required to drink alcohol laced with narcotics like ecstasy and was encouraged to flirt with guests. Although she initially did not have sex with guests, English alleges that Diddy gradually “groomed” her for sex trafficking.

The lawsuit details an incident where Diddy allegedly demanded that English have sex with jeweler Jacob Arabov, known as “Jacob the Jeweler” in the hip-hop community. After the encounter, she claims she was paid an additional $1,000 and congratulated by Diddy for complying. Arabov is named as a defendant in the suit.

English also claims she was “passed off” to other individuals at Diddy’s parties, where she was repeatedly sexually assaulted. She is suing Tamiko Thomas, accusing her of facilitating Diddy’s alleged sex trafficking operation, likening Thomas to Ghislaine Maxwell and Diddy to Jeffrey Epstein.

The lawsuit asserts that Diddy promised to advance English’s career, even helping her join a girl group, but these promises were coupled with threats to blackball her and her boyfriend from the industry if they did not comply. English alleges she finally escaped and returned to California in 2009, believing that Diddy subsequently blackballed her and her boyfriend as punishment.

English claims to have suffered significant emotional trauma, including intimacy issues and painful memories, due to the alleged sex trafficking. She is suing Diddy, Bad Boy Entertainment, Tamiko Thomas, Jacob Arabov, and others, seeking unspecified damages.

Diddy’s attorney, Jonathan Davis, responded to the lawsuit, stating, “No matter how many lawsuits are filed it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason and without any proof. Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to find the truth and Mr. Combs is confident he will prevail against these and other baseless claims in court.”

rtist arrested for insulting Tanzanian president and burning her picture

Shadrack Chaula, a 24-year-old artist known for his painting skills, has been arrested after recording a video in which he verbally attacked President Samia Suluhu Hassan and subsequently burning an image depicting her.

The Regional Police Commander for Mbeya, Mr Benjamin Kuzaga, said on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 that the incident took place on June 30 at Ntokela Village, Rungwe District.

Chaula, a resident of Ntokela Village, Ndato Ward, was found guilty of burning the image of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, an act deemed unethical in Tanzania.

“The suspect is an artist who committed the offense of burning a picture depicting President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Such actions are contrary to the laws and cultural norms of our country,” stated Kuzaga. The police did not, however, state which laws were broken.

Commenting on the matter, Matojo Cossota, a lawyer based in Dar es Salaam, said that the act of burning a president’s image does not contravene any laws, however, if the act was shared on social media or made public, the accused can be charged with other offences such as inciting hate.

Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Mr Juma Homera, instructed the police to apprehend Chaula after a video clip surfaced online showing him making derogatory remarks against the President and burning her portrait.

“After identifying the video clip showing the suspect’s offensive statements and actions, we initiated an investigation and subsequently apprehended him,” added Kuzaga.

Currently, the police is interrogating Chaula to ascertain the motives behind his actions, while investigative procedures are ongoing to gather further evidence.

“We are preparing the case file for submission to the Prosecutor’s Office to ensure the suspect faces the full extent of the law for his offenses against the President, which include burning her portrait and disseminating offensive content online,” explained Kuzaga.

Previously, Juma Homera condemned Chaula’s actions, emphasizing that such behavior towards national leaders is intolerable.

Local resident Salma Ally expressed concern over the incident, urging authorities to take decisive action to prevent similar acts in the future.

“The seriousness of this incident cannot be overstated. It is unacceptable for anyone to publicly insult our Head of State and commit such disrespectful acts,” remarked Ally.

Cameroon president’s daughter hints at same-sex relationship

The daughter of Cameroon’s president has shared an image in which she is kissing another woman, sparking mixed reactions in a country where same-sex relationships are illegal.

The Instagram post shows 26-year-old Brenda Biya embracing Brazillian model Layyons Valença.

“I’m crazy about you & I want the world to know,” Ms Biya wrote, adding a love heart emoji.

Her 91-year-old father, Paul Biya, became Cameroon’s president in 1982 and is one of Africa’s longest-ruling leaders.

Those engaging in same-sex acts or relationships in the Central African nation face up to five years in jail.

Ms Biya – a musician based abroad who goes by the name King Nasty – did not explicitly state her sexuality when posting the picture of the kiss.
However, some time after the image was published, Ms Biya shared an article from

Le Monde, in which the French newspaper reported that she had “come out”.
She also shared other messages from people expressing their support for her.

Transgender Cameroonian activist Shakiro was among those who praised Ms Biya, saying her Instagram post could be a “turning point for the LGBTQ+ community in Cameroon”.

Shakiro said Ms Biya “is now positioning herself as a voice for social change in a country where taboos are deeply rooted”.

Shakiro currently resides in Belgium. She sought asylum there after being convicted of “attempted homosexuality” in Cameroon.

Although Ms Biya has been praised by some, several social media users in Cameroon responded to her post with homophobic comments.

Some have speculated whether Ms Biya shared the picture in order to generate a buzz, given her reputation for publishing social media posts that spark controversy among Cameroonians.

There have also been questions about whether coming out is a privilege that can only be enjoyed by a select few in the country.

“I love this for Cameroon’s First Daughter,” LGBT activist Bandy Kiki said in a Facebook post.

“However, it highlights a harsh reality: Anti-LGBT laws in Cameroon disproportionately target the poor. Wealth and connections create a shield for some, while others face severe consequences.”

Human rights groups have previously criticised Cameroon’s strict laws against members of the LGBT community.

In 2022, Human Rights Watch urged Cameroon to “take urgent action to revoke this discriminatory law and to ensure that the human rights of all Cameroonians, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or sex characteristics, are upheld”.

Barrister Alice Nkom, a renowned human rights lawyer who defends LGBT people in
Cameroon, said Ms Biya was a “model of courage” who is “sending an important universal message of love”.

Most media outlets in Cameroon have not reported on Ms Biya’s recent picture.

The media regulatory body has been known to sanction publications and broadcasters for depictions of homosexuality.

The government – and President Biya himself – have not officially commented on the story either.

The BBC has contacted Ms Biya and is yet to receive a response.

Eyewitness identifies Judge as murder suspect

In an unusual turn of events at the trial of Zephania Ndalawa, accused of intentional homicide, the third witness, a nine-year-old Salome Cheyo, has identified Judge Graffin Mwakapeje as the perpetrator of the murder of Thomas Masumbuko.

Salome, a second-grade student at Burigi Primary School, took the stand to testify about the murder of Thomas Masumbuko (12), who was found dead after being tied up with ropes around his legs and hands, with a cloth over his face, and with a gag in his mouth, causing him to suffocate.

During the proceedings led by State attorney Musa Mlawa, Salome left the witness box to point out the suspect, walking directly to the judge and identifying him.

Even as she returned to the stand from the judge’s place, Lawyer Mlawa asked her again about the white person who pursued her on the day of the incident. The child insisted it was the judge presiding over the case, prompting laughter in the courtroom.

Previously, during her testimony, Salome, who struggled to answer questions about her understanding of concepts like sin or truth, was allowed to proceed without taking an oath due to her difficulty in comprehending the questions posed by the judge.

In her account, she described encountering a motorbike on August 19, 2023, while fetching water, where she was pursued and had her bucket stolen.

She also recounted being grabbed and taken to her grandmother’s house, where she later found her uncle bound and bleeding. After escaping, she sought refuge with her aunt, only to discover Thomas Masumbuko, also bound and suffocated with a cloth over his face.

Under questioning by Lawyer Mlawa, Salome described the perpetrator as tall and white, someone who helps carry produce during harvests. Following the lawyer’s request, she identified the suspect as present in the courtroom, pointing directly to the judge presiding over the case.

Under cross-examination by Defense Counsel Beatrice Amos, Salome stated she did not know the accused in the dock and was unfamiliar with the motorbike presented as evidence in court.

Another witness, Leticia Herman (33), Thomas Masumbuko’s mother, described finding her son bound and bloodied at home, alongside her brother who had also been attacked.

The trial continues at the Geita Court, with the prosecution presenting its witnesses.

Michelle Obama is voters’ choice to beat Donald Trump as Joe Biden loses support after embarrassing debate

0

A survey has indicated that nominating former First Lady Michelle Obama as the official presidential candidate by the Democratic party will be the best choice to beat Donald Trump.

The party members are losing hope in Biden amid his health challenges and disappointing debate. They feel their problems may be solved if they convince the former first lady and offer an official nomination to her.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday found Michelle, 60, trouncing Trump, 78, by 11 percentage points, 50% to 39%, among registered voters.

The other matchups show Biden even with Trump at 40% each, while the 45th president defeats Vice President Kamala Harris by a single percentage point (43%-42%).

The 45th president also would triumph over a slate of Democratic governors potentially in line to replace Biden, including California’s Gavin Newsom, Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, Kentucky’s Andy Beshear, and Illinois’ J.B. Pritzker.

While her husband Barack publicly came to Biden’s defense following his debate flop against Trump last week, Michelle Obama has been keeping her distance throughout the re-election cycle.

Michelle, who enjoys favorable opinion among voters, according to the Reuters/Ipsos survey, maintained close ties to Hunter Biden’s ex-wife Kathleen Buhle during the Obama administration and is reportedly steamed about her friend being exiled by the first family.

She also explicitly declined to back Biden, 81, when asked about the president’s re-election campaign during a 2022 interview.

Barack Obama has appeared at fundraisers for Biden throughout the 2024 election cycle, most recently to help him offstage July 15 after a huge haul from Hollywood donors who watched ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel interview the pair at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Unless he steps down voluntarily, Biden will almost certainly be the Democratic nominee in 2024.

On Wednesday, the 81-year-old reassured his campaign staff of his intentions to stay in the race but reportedly griped to a close ally that he may be finished if his polling numbers continue to fall amid subsequent public appearances.

According to the Reuters/Ipsos poll, more than half (56%) of Americans say Biden should drop out, while 46% say Trump should suspend his campaign.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted July 1-2 and surveyed 1,070 US adults, 892 of whom were registered voters.

The margins of error were plus or minus 3.2 percentage points for all respondents and 3.5 percentage points for registered voters who responded.

man stabbed his wife repeatedly and then set her on fire following a fight at their home

0

A man stabbed his wife repeatedly and then set her on fire following a fight at their home in Dickson, Tennessee.

Officers arrived at the home alongside firefighters following reports of a fire but were horrified by what they discovered in the home.

The home had heavy smoke coming from it, but it was the woman at the back door who was a more immediate concern.

According to court documents, upon their arrival, 28-year-old Zachary Mowel approached the officers and said, “I did it. It was me.”

The injured woman, who turned out to be the man’s wife, Tessa, appeared to have multiple stab wounds to her upper back and chest and still had a knife inside her body.

After their investigation into the horrific crime scene, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation concluded that Mowel had attacked his wife with a knife, then doused her with gasoline and set their home on fire.

No motive has been given for the attack, but the victim reportedly told police that she and her husband had been in a fight that turned violent, according to WKRN.

He was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated arson, aggravated assault (domestic-related), and domestic assault.

He is being held at the Dickson County Jail on a bond of $765,000.

The victim’s twin sister Tori Ila Elizabeth Trotter launched a GoFundMe on Tessa’s behalf. She is still at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she is being treated for severe burns and multiple stab wounds. The GoFundMe also offered additional details of the attack.

According to Tori’s explanation, Zachary stabbed his wife on July 1 when she arrived home from work. He allegedly stabbed her in the back with a kitchen knife, and then eight additional times in the neck, chest and back, all while “brutally beating her over 30 times in the face.”

Tori then wrote that he “poured gasoline on her and set her on fire while watching her burn. He then set the house on fire and left her to die.”

According to the page, the couple’s sons, five and eight, were “watching and pleading for their dad to not kill their mom.”

The GoFundMe also offered additional details as to Tessa’s current status. In addition to the nine stab wounds and third degree burns covering her right leg, Tori writes that all of her sister’s ribs are broken, she has a collapsed lung, and she is currently paralyzed from the waist down.

“Tessa is strong but she has a long road to recovery and therapy,” Tori wrote, adding that she has taken temporary custody of her nephews.

“Tessa is the strongest person I know and her and her boys did not deserve this torture!” she concluded her message.

Local NBC affiliate WSMV spoke with the victim’s mother Tina Trotter, who said they had been planning a get-together on Monday night, July 1, before the attack happened.

After visiting her daughter at the hospital, Tina gave an update, saying, “She said, ‘Momma, he tried to kill me.’ He was leaving me to die.”

“The boys were sitting right there, my grandsons, and he grabbed her arm and stabbed her.

“She told Jackson, her oldest child, to go call 911, and he wouldn’t let him do it.”

Tina alleged that Zachary put the kids in his truck before setting the home on fire with Tessa still inside.

“He promised me he would never do that,” Tina said of her son-in-law harming her daughter. “And then to do this in front of the boys. I don’t know, that’s why I can’t get my head around it.”

According to Tina, two passersby saw the smoke and rushed inside the home to put out the fire, which likely saved her daughter’s life.

She said that Mowel had left the scene after setting the house ablaze, but returned before his eventual arrest.

“God bless you, and I will reach out to you once my family finds out who you are,” Tina said of the good samaritans who stopped to help. “Our family is so grateful for y’all because I wouldn’t have her today.”

woman who had her mother-in-law’s car petrol-bombed for saying she “wasn’t good enough” to marry her son has been jailed

A woman who had her mother-in-law’s car petrol-bombed for saying she “wasn’t good enough” to marry her son has been jailed.

Alisha Anwar, 29, paid a friend £150 to carry out the revenge attack in Wrexham in June 2022 after falling out with Christine Place, 54, in the lead-up to her wedding.

Mold Crown Court heard Mrs Place walked out of her home to find the vehicle ablaze, with neighbours describing how it had “exploded” and engulfed two other cars. Some had to be evacuated while firefighters battled the blaze.

Anwar, of Wrexham, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit arson and was jailed for 16 months.

She was also given a two-year restraining order barring any contact with her mother-in-law.

Her friend Luke Williams, also of Wrexham, who carried out the attack, pleaded guilty to the same offence and will be sentenced next week.

The court heard the pair were reported to police by Williams’s girlfriend.

CCTV footage showed him filling up a petrol can the day before the attack.

Mark Connor, defending Anwar, told the court: “It was a revenge offence.

“For a long time, she was not able to come to terms with what she had done, such was her fear of the consequences despite the weight of evidence against her.

“But she eventually made the right decision. She is now able to make proper and rational decisions.”

Judge Niclas Parry told her: “The inherent dangerousness makes any arson a very serious offence.

“The courts can’t ignore the need to reflect in sentences the grave consequences that can flow from fires.

“The facts of this case are close to being staggering. This was all about revenge and spite in a domestic context.

“You were determined to seek vengeance on your mother-in-law and offered to pay your co-defendant £150 to petrol-bomb or blow it up.

“You orchestrated this conspiracy, and you’re as responsible for the acts of each other in a conspiracy as your own.”

IT IS MISCHIEVOUS TO DRAG THE PRESIDENT INTO PF’S SELF-INFLICTED LEADERSHIP WRANGLES- State House

PRESS STATEMENT
4th July 2024

IT IS MISCHIEVOUS TO DRAG THE PRESIDENT INTO PF’S SELF-INFLICTED LEADERSHIP WRANGLES

We have seen insinuations and attempts to drag the Republican President, Hakainde Hichilema, into the ongoing PF leadership wrangles, especially following the expulsion of nine of their Members of Parliament.

It has never been President Hichilema’s interest to interfere in how other political parties conduct their business. One of the strongest pillars of this President is his commitment to order and the rule of law in the country.

President Hichilema’s views on by-elections are well known. He has repeatedly called on stakeholders to come on board and make recommendations on how this issue can be addressed to avoid them and save resources.

The PF exercised its legal and constitutional rights to expel their members from Parliament according to the provisions of their party constitution. They later took these matters to the courts, where decisions were made that resulted in the expulsion of their nine MPs.

Therefore, when a decision such as this results from the PF’s self-inflicted wrangles, the President’s hands are extremely tied despite his personal views against by-elections. There is no way the President can interfere with the independent arms of government, such as Parliament and the Judiciary.

If he were to attempt to interfere with the provisions of the constitution, the same people accusing him would turn around and accuse him again. So far, the President has demonstrated willingness and courage to push for reforms in legislation he is uncomfortable with, such as defamation of the President and abolishing the death penalty.

These are laws that did not require constitutional amendments, but those regarding by-elections are beyond him as they require consensus from many stakeholders to address the numerous lacunas in the current constitution that they themselves admitted to signing with their eyes closed.

As far as we are concerned, the internal fights between the PF factional Presidents are historical from the time of the demise of the late President Michael Sata (MHSRP).

Whether they fight, reconcile, fight again, and then turn to the courts for arbitration, President Hichilema has no business with that. They should resolve their issues and leave the Republican President out of it.

President Hichilema is currently busy resolving more serious national issues created by the same people that are currently wrangling among themselves.

MILES SAMPA IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXPULSION OF NINE PF MPs & NULLIFICATION OF THEIR PARLEY SEATS

MILES SAMPA IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXPULSION OF NINE PF MPs & NULLIFICATION OF THEIR PARLEY SEATS

By Mabvuto Mtonga

When on October 24, 2023, Matero PF member of parliament Miles Sampa convoked an extraordinary party convention to usher in new office-bearers, he was fully aware of what he was doing.

From that extraordinary PF convention, democracy won the day and Miles Sampa was unanimously elected president of the former ruling party, something former president Edgar Lungu denied him during the bloody PF convention held in 2014 in Kabwe.

With that decision by the PF members who gathered at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre to elect Miles Sampa as their party president, Sampa used that to start effecting critical changes within PF.

It was on the basis of that PF convention that Sampa appointed Mr Morgan Ng’ona as party secretary general, setting aside Raphael Nakachinda.

It was the same presidential powers that he used to replace Brian Mundubile with Robert Chabinga as leader of the opposition in Parliament.

Miles Sampa did not stop at that in the exercise of his newly-acquired presidential powers. He went ahead working with Ng’ona to submit the new party leadership structure to the Registrar of Societies, when even today it shows that Sampa is the legitimate president of PF.

Further, as the legit PF president Miles Sampa agreed with his other leaders to expel some PF members of parliament who were not towing the party line by refusing to acknowledge that Sampa was now the president.

That party resolution to expel some PF MPs was communicated through a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly and signed by no other than Ng’ona with Sampa’s full blessings obviously.

In accordance with the law nine PF MPs so affected by president Sampa’s decision petition the Constitutional Court so that their expulsions could be reversed. The petition was dismissed but these PF MPs had exercised their democratic rights.

Equally, in accordance to the rules and regulations of the House, the Minister of Information and Media, Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa, raised a point of order as to why the nine PF MPs that had been expelled by their party were still in the House, enjoying parliamentary privileges.

Again, in line with the rules and regulations of the House, which are underpinned by the law, the National Assembly rendered a ruling on Wednesday to the effect that the affected legislators could no longer continue as MPs because owing to their expulsions by the Miles Sampa-led PF, their seats were vacant thus nullified.

In summation, the election of Miles Sampa as PF president was democratic and therefore, his decision to expel his fellow PF MPs using his newly-appointed SG Morgan Ng’ona was not only democratic but also an internal party matter.

No one put a gun to Miles Sampa’s head to expel his fellow MPs by writing a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly, and who did not act there and then to expel the nine PF MPs after they sought legal recourse. This hold-back by the Speaker was in recognition of the law.

Now that the legal process is over, the Speaker of the National Assembly is legally mandated to act on PF president Miles Sampa’s decision to expel the nine PF MPs and declare their seats vacant.

Any issues on the merits or demerits of these expulsions should now be internally discussed between the nine PF MPs whose seats have been nullified and their president Miles Sampa. He is the one solely responsible for their unfortunate situation.

Sad as it maybe, the law has to be interpreted as it is if there is no ambiguity. In this case, the law was compelled to move because PF’s democratically-elected president Miles Sampa decided to expel his friends from the party. On this one Miles Sampa should bear full responsibility for what is to come following the nullification of nine PF parliamentary seats by the National Assembly.

President Hichilema Washes Hands of ‘PF Self-Inflicted’ Chaos, UPND Celebrates Nullifications

President Hichilema Washes Hands of ‘PF Self-Inflicted’ Chaos, UPND Celebrates Nullifications

The Zambian government has categorically denied any involvement by President Hakainde Hichilema in the ongoing power struggles within the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) party. However, the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has been openly jubilant over the nullification of the nine PF parliamentary seats, adding to the growing political tensions.

The statement, released by Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, dismisses allegations of the President’s interference, noting that Hichilema’s “commitment to order and the rule of law in the country” is one of his strongest pillars. The statement goes on to emphasize that the President has “no business” with the internal fights among PF factions, which it describes as “historical” from the time of the late President Michael Sata’s demise.

Interestingly, the statement’s swift and emphatic denial of the President’s involvement in the PF’s woes has raises our eyebrows as political observers. The fact that they’re so quick to wash their hands of this situation is even more suspicious. One has to wonder what the President might know about the PF’s ‘self-inflicted’ leadership crisis.

The PF, which previously held power in Zambia, has been embroiled in a bitter power struggle, leading to the expulsion of nine of its Members of Parliament. The statement asserts that the President’s hands are “extremely tied” despite his personal views against by-elections, as the party’s actions were a result of its own “self-inflicted wrangles.”

Meanwhile, the UPND has been openly celebrating the nullification of the nine PF seats, fueling concerns about the government’s impartiality in the ongoing political drama. It’s concerning to see the ruling party gloating over the PF’s misfortunes, especially when the country is facing such significant financial challenges.

Indeed, the cost of holding nine parliamentary by-elections could be a significant burden for a nation currently complaining of funds and actively seeking international assistance in the wake of a devastating drought. As the PF continues to grapple with its internal turmoil, the Hichilema administration maintains that it has no intention of interfering, even as it works to address the “more serious national issues” it claims were created by the same individuals now fighting for control of the opposition party.

PF would die without Michael Sata –Minister of Defence GBM on September 11, 2013

0

September 11, 2013

The Patriotic Front risks disintegrating and crumbling should President Michael Sata not run for a second term, Minister of Defence Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has predicted.

Mwamba, who is popularly known as GBM, has charged that those who were against the endorsement of President Sata for the 2016 polls should know that the ruling party would easily crumble without the leadership of the President.

Mwamba told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday that his crusade of endorsing President Sata as a sole candidate for the 2016 general elections was meant to save the party from what he termed as “political scavengers.”

He said under PF, it was only President Sata who could give the ruling party another victory because the President still enjoyed massive support and popularity from Zambians because of his determination to create employment and develop the country.

Mwamba said President Sata constitutionally deserved a second term and that those who were against him recontesting the presidency were being politically mischievous.

He said it was too early for President Sata to leave the party he had worked so hard to build for over a decade adding the PF would never be the same without the Head of State.

Mwamba said the ruling party would only allow President Sata to retire after he had served the second and groomed his successor that would be easy to sale to the electorate.

Mwamba said he would continue appealing to the Head of State not to abandon his own boat stating the clique that was scheming to unseat him would never succeed because the President was aware of their dealings.

He said Zambians were talking about the PF because they knew that President Sata was at the helm and that it would be risky for the party to participate in the 2016 elections without the President.

“If President Sata left the party now, it would easily crumble and disintegrate because it is the President who is holding the party together. And because of this, I will continue endorsing President Sata for the 2016 general elections and those who are against the President ruing for the second term are mischievous. Under PF President Sata is the only candidate who can give the party another victory because he is still enjoying massive support from the electorate,” Mwamba said.

Mwamba launched the President Sata endorsement campaign in Kasama and the campaign has since spread to Luapula, Eastern, Lusaka, Southern, Copperbelt and Western Provinces with each region declaring that the President would have to run for the second term.

THE PEOPLE’S EXPECTATIONS FROM THE ZAMBIA WE WANT CONVENORS

Authored By Mupishi Jones

A friend of mine called me to tune in to Crown TV and listen to the live press conference by the covernors calling themselves, “The Zambia We Want”.
Immediately I tuned in,I recognised the one chairing the meeting,a Mr Patrick Kalifungwa, former Minister in the Chiluba Administration,I recognised Mr Muhabi Lungu,a former diplomat in the Edgar Lungu administration,I recognised Mr Bob Sichinga,Mr Ernest Mwansa and many others. However,as soon as I recognised and pictured almost all of them in their respective portfolios when they were in government,my high expectations dampened.

Same people in different jackets! Who doesn’t know Bob Sichinga, who doesn’t know Muhabi Lungu, who doesn’t know Patrick Kalifungwa, Ernest Mwansa,Richwell Siamunene for example?

I tuned in just when Bob Sichinga was talking about the country’s debts,he talked about both internal and external debt arising from reckless borrowing and how embarrassing it was when Zambia became the first country in the post pandemic era to default on its debt obligations.

My instant reaction to Mr Sichinga was like, this Man also contracted huge personal debt at DBZ which at that time he had defaulted, has he even settled that debt? Anyway, that’s a topic for another day.

The current government is managing well on external debt discussions, the people’s expectations were to hear clearly something new and different from how this current government is handling it! For instance, the current regime has not only cleared all the inherited retirees dues but also introduced a “3- month-pension-payment after retirement” policy, what’s the Zambia We Want proposal on this one?

Besides that, I was expecting this team to dwell so much on something new which the current government is not doing? I expected them to come up with figures of how many permanent and pensionable jobs in government are they going to create and how those jobs would be sustained. The current HH Administration has created over hundred thousand of jobs in total just within two years in government, what figures are the Zambia We Want putting on the table?

I expected them to mention how different they are proposing to handle the decentralization from how the current government is doing. The current government has not only decentralized the decision making to Ward Development Committees (WDC) especially on Constituency Development Fund (CDF) programs and projects, but it has also devolved some functions under the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Transport and other ministries. As I’m writing this, budgets and funding for these line ministries is sitting with local authorities under sector grant accounts.
How different are the Zambia We Want proposing to handle decentralization?

The current government has not only increased CDF from K1.6m to K30.6m to each constituency but also delegated the decision making to WDCs to prioritise their community felt needs! How different is their approach to this?

I expected them to mention whether they will reduce this CDF amount or they’ll increase it and by how much?
Citizens out them were anxious to know this information because currently CDF is touching thousands of lives out there. There are thousands of silent youths being sponsored to pursue skills training in almost all TEVETA registered training institutions through this CDF, they’re keen to know how the Zambia We Want is proposing to make some changes to it.

There are thousands of women and youths loan and grant beneficiaries of this K30.6m CDF annually, they’re equally interested to know,
we have local suppliers and contractors in their respective districts, they would want to know.

Apart from the CDF, citizens and the world at large were expecting to hear how different this Zambia We Want could have handled the complications that were surrounding the mining sector. How different are they proposing to handle Mopani and KCM for example? Zambia We Want must have come up with a clear roadmap different from what the current HH Administration is doing on their proposals on the mining sector.

What is their position on the free education policy being pursued by the current government, are they proposing to abolish it the way their colleagues in UKWA are suggesting or they’ll not temper with it? If they’ll not temper with it,then why should people vote for them because the current regime is doing it any way?

What is their take on the university students meal allowances? The previous PF regime of ECL which has metamorphosised into UKWA abolished university students meal allowances. The current government re-introduced it, what is the position of this Zambia We Want? Thousands of students out here are interested to know!

The current New Dawn Administration led by President Hakainde Hichilema has even risked rejection from its members on the issue of abolishing caderism in public places, what is the position of this Zambia We Want? At least we know that UKWA is proposing to bring caderism back again, what is the position of this Zambia We Want?

There are a lot of efforts being made in sectors such as alternative sources of energy,in the agriculture, there are efforts and resources being applied towards supplimenting with winter maize, therefore it was going to make a lot of sense if these same old politicians masquerading under the Zambia We Want could have come out clearly on how different they were going to handle issues from what the current government is doing.

These people behind the Zambia We Want are known people,we knew most of them when they were in government. Therefore, unless they come forward with completely new and different alternative solutions, they risk facing similar questions over and over as to why they couldn’t implement what they are proposing today when they were in power.

The current social media youths have completely changed their interactions and approach with politicians. They are now asking aspiring politicians to say what they have done before, unlike waiting for the politician to bore them with long and elaborate speeches on what they will do when you give them power,

GOVT RESPONDS TO INDUSTRY CONCERNS REGARDING THE PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE CADASTRAL TENURE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE FOR ZAMBIA

Highlights from the joint press briefing held the Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Dr. Hapenga Kabeta, Information and Media Permanent Secretary Mr. Thabo Kawana and the Smart-Zambia National Coordinator Mr. Percy Chinyama.

✅ The Data Protection Act No.3 of 2021 guides that all critical systems and infrastructure should be hosted in country unlike the current system which contravenes this provision.

✅ The newly developed system is easy to use, has additional features like online payment module and interfaces with other critical systems (ZRA and PACRA) on the GSB Portal which will promote data exchange in the eco system.

✅ The newly developed system has fully automated processes using the GSB platform as guided by the Electronic Government Division that Government services should be accessed on one platform (GSB) thus eliminating the risks associated with human intervention.

✅ Furthermore, it will be cost effective to operate the newly built system as there will be no annual software maintenance fee charges which has proven to be expensive on the Government side.

✅ Government through the Ministry of Mines and Minerals wishes to inform the nation that it is not aware of the technical problems that have plagued the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) and that have delayed the issuance of land title deeds.

✅ Government has consulted with users starting with elicitation of requirements during the requirements gathering stage, conducted user acceptance tests (UATs) and is about to conduct its final user acceptance test.

✅ The new system is currently undergoing tests.

✅ The newly system reflects the provisions of the governing law which is the Mines and Minerals Development Act of 2015 and its subsidiary legislation. For example, the system has geographical grids of six seconds, artisanal license area requirement of predefined 2 cadastre units which 6.68h as per Mines and Mineral Development Act of 2015.

✅ The newly developed system will have grids which form cadaster units and have been incorporated into the newly developed system.

✅ No tenements will be affected as the newly developed system has been developed by adhering to the provisions of the governing law which is the Mines and Minerals Development Act of 2015 and its subsidiary legislation.

✅ The system will not infringe or revoke tenements in any way but will be used by the Ministry and mining right holders to manage their tenements with easy to use digital dashboard and real time view of performance.

✅ Most contracts have an expiry date and the current system contract which was running for three (3) years came to an end in 2023, however the Ministry extended the contract.

✅ Government through the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development will communicate to the general public about this transitioning once development is completed and ready for rolling out.

PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION

PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION

By Dickson Jere

To remove a Member of Parliament (MP) via expulsion from the political party is a toll order these days. The system changed in 2016 through the Constitutional amendment that made it difficult to create a by-election by way of expulsion. Here is the long process that ought to be followed in order to create a vacancy and have a by-election.

1. When the party has expelled a truant MP from its ranks and file, the MP has two option. Either accept the expulsion and allow for by-election to be held or indeed challenge the expulsion in courts of law as provided for under Article 72(5).

2. Once he files the Court process challenging the expulsion – the MP keeps his seat while the case is going on in court and there is no timeline in which the case should be concluded.

3. If the Court finds that the expulsion of the MP from the party was not justified – there will be no by election in that constituency. In other words, the Judge must agree that the party has genuine reasons to fire its MP.

4. Once the Court says the party didn’t have genuine reasons for expelling the MP – that expelled MP has two options. Either to remain as member of the party that expelled him and retain the seat in Parliament or indeed resign from the party and becomes Independent MP.

5. But where the Court finds that the expulsion of the MP was justified, then the seat maybe declared vacant and by election takes place within 90 days after seat is declared vacant.

6. When a political party is dissolved, MPs who won the seats on that party ticket will remain MPs in parliament and automatically becomes independents.

So, for the seat to be declared vacant and have a by election, only two things must happen. The expelled MP should accept the expulsion and not challenge it in Court or indeed, he should resign on his own. For rest, it will depend on the Court.

This rather cumbersome process was introduced in 2016 in order to avoid unnecessary by elections whenever an MP is expelled from his party.
Remember PF had expelled 26 MPs at a go in 2008 when it was in opposition? Their arguments – expelled MPs – was that they decided to participate in the National Constitutional Conference (NCC), which was a national event against party directive.

There would be a vacuum in PF without me- Michael Sata

0

Former first lady Dr Christine Kaseba says she appreciates that people turned up for the memorial service of her late husband president Michael Sata, but wondered what use it was to remember somebody when “you don’t honour his legacy.”

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Dr Kaseba was at pains to explain the

chaos and factionalism in the former ruling party, saying her late husband warned leaders in the party before he died that they were going to kill PF if they did not handle it properly.

“I am glad that people turned up for the memorial. But of what use is remembering somebody when you don’t honour his legacy? What use is remembering somebody when you want to destroy what he selflessly set out to build?” Dr Kaseba asked. “So they have got to love and they need to put aside their differences. And it’s possible these differences can be set apart.”

Dr Kaseba said her late husband did not toil in vain for things to happen in the manner they were.

“Even yourself, what are your thoughts from whatever you did (covering late president Michael Sata)? Do you think he did all that in vain?” Dr Kaseba asked. “You know Patson, before he died I remember him talking to some members of central committee and he told them I have worked, I have toiled. It wasn’t for you that I was toiling, it was for the common person. I have made life comfortable for you but if you are not careful after I have gone, if you don’t handle this party carefully after I have gone, it will be broken.”

She urged the factions to prioritise Sata’s sacrifice.

“So my appeal, for the sake of Michael Sata, is to sort of urge everyone to remember what Michael Sata stood for, service to the people. He was a servant of the people so it wasn’t about what he would get as a president. It wasn’t about the trappings of that office. It was all about having authority to make a difference in the lives of the poor,” Dr Kaseba said. “So this can only happen if there is love. Love for everyone, not love of … that selfish love. And I think if we can be open enough and show love to our neighbor, show love to each other I think it will become very, very clear.”

Asked what role she felt her husband’s successor could play, the interview was conducted an hour before Lungu declared he was coming back to active politics, Dr Kaseba said it would be tricky as it was known to all that president Lungu renounced his party presidency.

“But being a father figure it wouldn’t be a bad thing to call almost everyone, including Miles, even beforehand. But I think maybe he is also holding back because of the permutations that come with holding a meeting. People might misinterpret what he is trying to do,” Dr Kaseba said. “But I think it’s something that can be done, if not by the former president Edgar Lungu it could be done by other states people.”

Asked if she was ready to do the mediation herself, Dr Kaseba said: “Well, I can talk to them but you know I think we need to start separating the family from the political party. When they want advice I think we are open, they can come because in as much as I am family, I am a wife, there is a lot more that I participated in the formation and the development of the party to where it was. So if they need advice I am quite willing, they can come and talk to me. But I think it’s extremely important that we put our differences aside and forge on what Michael Sata sought out to do.”

She said there is a lot that could be done if all the different factions came together, saying they do not even have to be in government again to be able to achieve what Sata wanted to do.

“We can start going round and start sowing seeds of love. You know we need to be united. There is so much acrimony in the country. And God has blessed us as a peaceful nation, but I think there is quite a lot that we can do to cement that peace and unity in the country,” said Dr Kaseba. https://dailyrevelationzambia.com/sata-warned-pf-will-be-broken-kaseba-if-leaders-did-not-handle-party-carefully/

Theatrical PF cast continues drama as party loses 9 parliamentary seats

Theatrical PF cast continues drama as party loses 9 parliamentary seats

PF’s internal battles reached a boiling point yesterday, resulting in nine members of parliament losing their seats and leader Miles Sampa getting expelled by his own faction comrades.

In the continuing drama complete with unexpected twists and turns like a Zambezi Magic TV series, Morgan Ng’ona announced Mafinga lawmaker Robert Chabinga as interim president of the PF declaring all of Sampa’s announced changes to the party leadership in the past six days invalid.

Hours after Parliament declared the seats of nine PF members of parliament vacant on account of being expelled by the Sampa-led faction, Ngona announced his former boss’ ejection from the PF at an impromptu presser in Lusaka last evening.

Last week, Sampa pardoned seven of the nine expelled party parliamentarians saying he was preventing a massive by-election, later firing Ng’ona and appointed himself as party SG, a position he also used to fire Chabinga from the position of leader of opposition in parliament, and later appointed Kalulushi MP, Mulenga Kampamba.

But Ng’ona said there has been no change whatsoever involving the party’s central committee that Sampa claimed to have dissolved, as the register of societies still recognised the same committee, as of yesterday.

In the meantime, Chabinga has said all party decisions that were made by then party president, Sampa are considered invalid as he did not consult the central committee before taking the steps.

Meanwhile, using his position as acting president, Chabinga sent out warning waves to all PF masquerades who wish to guise themselves as party presidents or secretary general, stating that they shall be dealt with.

He also warned media houses to desist from hosting such individuals under the stolen titles, or they risk being dealt with too.

He also warned all PF MP’s to behave, or they risked being expelled.

“To all PF members countrywide and fellow MPs, we will not tolerate indiscipline, members of parliament who will not behave will go. we would rather work with five people who are disciplined than have a bunch of them who misbehave.”

“We are not in church, these are politics, anyone who will be seen with the UKWA, we will put satellites on you and you will either be expelled or suspended,” Chabinga said.

He further expressed his disappointment towards the behaviour of Sampa, who he said was only busy making the changes from his bedroom in South Africa, were he is posting on Facebook from.

“I took high risks to support Miles Sampa, I had petrol bombs thrown at my house. People told me that I was supporting a mad man but I never cared. Our brother was bought and one of the conditions that were given were that I was a thorn in their flesh and he needed to kick me out.

“But Leadership comes from God and you don’t force it, I don’t fight, God fights for me, even today, they intended to lift me from parliament if at all I seat on the seat of leader of opposition, but as the SG has said, am still leader of opposition,” Chabinga said.

He went on to describe himself as a man of quiet actions. “I do things quietly, then I come out and hammer, that’s how real men work.”

“We have checked the VAR, and it has shown that Mbape did not score, it was a foul,” said Chabinga.

COPPER QUEENS TO PLAY NEW ZEALAND IN LYON AS PART OF OLYMPIC PREPS

COPPER QUEENS TO PLAY NEW ZEALAND IN LYON AS PART OF OLYMPIC PREPS

Press Statement
(For Immediate Release)
Football Association of Zambia
Football House, Lusaka

4th July 2024

FAZ CLINCHES NEW ZEALAND FRIENDLY FOR OLYMPIC BOUND COPPER QUEENS

The Zambia Women National Team will play New Zealand on July 13 in France in an international friendly match.

Coach Bruce Mwape’s team is expected to shift base to France for the final part of preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga says the game against New Zealand is one of the few that have been organized in line with the caliber of opponents in Group B.

“The Copper Queens will play the first international friendly match during the international camp against New Zealand in Lyon on July 13. The game will be played at the Stade Louis Darragon, Vichy,” says Kamanga.
“The team will play another high profile match that we will announce in due course. Our desire as always is to keep to the high standards of preparations that we have set for all our teams participating in international tournaments.”

Kamanga says New Zealand presents a good challenge having come off a World Cup which they co-hosted in 2023.

“Some of the foreign based players will join camp directly in France as their leagues are still active. We know that the Copper Queens now stand as an emerging force in the women’s game having played at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, won bronze at the Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and played at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia/New Zealand,” he says.

New Zealand is ranked 28th in the world while the Copper Queens are 65th on the global charts.
The Copper Queens will open their Olympics account on July 25 against the United States of America at the Stade de Nice before playing the Matildas three days later at the same venue. Zambia will play Germany on July 31 in St Etienne in the final Group B match.

FOOTBALL CONTROVERSY: ELITE LADIES FC CALLS OUT ESTHER’S INJURY AS A BLATANT LIE?

FOOTBALL CONTROVERSY: ELITE LADIES FC CALLS OUT ESTHER’S INJURY AS A BLATANT LIE?

A fresh controversy has rocked the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) after Elite Ladies FC have publicly accused the governing body of spreading false information about their player, Esther Chitete. The goalkeeper has reportedly been omitted from the final squad for the Paris Olympics due to injury, but her club has strongly denied this claim.

In a statement, Elite Ladies FC have stated, “We do not have any official information on Esther Chitete Munsaka being injured or being unwell. What we know is she is fit and healthy as of right now.” This publicly open statement has raised the eyebrows of the football fans who were in high hopes for the goalie to be part of the paris olympics however they had a sad face moment after hearing she was dropped.

Coach Bruce Mwape however made this statement, “All the players were just okay until goalkeeper Chitete Munsaka sustained an injury in training. The report I got from the doctor was very discouraging and they indicated that she will not be able to travel with the team. We have consequently recalled Eunice Sakala,” said Mwape.

“We had about 35 players and we had a lot of competition, and we now have the final list of 22 players. We are all aware that each competition has its own set of rules and regulations, which we observed. He added: “We are entering our last phase, and we plan to play two high-profile friendly games against teams who have competed in the World Cup or the Olympics.

Mwape said, “We picked players on merit and those that we have left out is due to form.”

Now we are in some sort of limbo. The national team coach says she is injured and her club says they have no idea of her injury. However understand it is possible for a club to be unaware of some player injuries especially during national call-ups and sometimes it could be some conspiracies coming into the play. However how do the football fans look at this?

WE REJECT THE DECLARED VACANCIES; HICHILEMA SCARED OF RERUN AND 50% + 1 CLAUSE

Second Deputy Speaker Moses Moyo’s declaration of nine (9) parliamentary seats held by the Patriotic Front (PF) vacant is undemocratic, mischievous and confirms the “kangaroo nature” of the National Assembly today.

In the interest of justice, we outrightly reject this poorly choreographed scheme whose consequences will soon be so embarrassing for both its architects and implementors. This is not a way to govern a country. And it is such a shame to Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND that such utter despotism and constitutional chaos can be allowed to play out on the floor of the House, which is expected to be a neutral arbiter in our country’s governance system.

This decision is retrogressive and an indictment on of the leadership of the country’s three arms of government, especially the executive, which is resolved to destroy the country’s democracy through a series of irregular, unconstitutional and barbaric manoeuvres to cement its hold over the country.

We have said it before that this is not an internal matter of PF. It is an issue of very serious national consequences if not handled properly. This is about Mr Hichilema wanting to garner the majority in Parliament, which he failed to obtain through the general elections. The purpose of these amateurish political manoevures is to give himself a majority in Parliament that he requires to make amendments to the Constitution that will perpetuate and entrench his divisive, corrupt and chaotic rule.

Mr Hichilema wants to change the Constitution to perpetuate his stay in office by removing the five-year presidential term limit and introduce a seven-year term as well as remove the 50% + 1 to revert to First Past the post electoral system to avoid a rerun that he fears greatly.

He knows he can’t win an election, which is why he wants to dilute opposition representation in Parliament to hang on to power regardless of the destruction to our democracy.

We reject Mr Moyo’s declaration outrightly, and we call upon all progressive stakeholders of this country to get involved and rescue the country from Mr Hichilema’s desperation to install a full-blown dictatorship and make this country an outpost of senseless tyranny.

This is what happens to a nation, a country when values, principles, and ethics are lost and sacrificed on the altar of political expediency. And those who aided or initiated this destructive process are now helplessly watching the inferno that they ignited. Sadly, Mr Miles Sampa, wittingly or unwittingly, is the “hero” of this veritable chaos.

One bad term doesn’t deserve another, aleya!

Video of Mabonga inciting ethnic war authentic – police officer

A Digital forensic analyst yesterday told the Lusaka magistrates court that the video he downloaded of Mfuwe member of parliament Maureen Mabonga allegedly inciting civil unrest was authentic.

Mabonga is in Court on two counts of seditious practices.

Between May 25 and May 28, 2024 the lawmaker allegedly incited Easterners to rise in arms against Southerners when she ascribed the disappearance of Petauke Central member of parliament Emmanuel Jay Banda to an ethnic attack on Easterners.

She said the Easterners together with their tribal cousins, the Bembas were in multitudes and could form a ‘tribal pact’ which could outnumber the police.

Detective chief inspector Jonathan Phiri who is based at force headquarters under the Criminal investigations department, Digital Forensic Laboratory told magistrate Trevor Kasanda that on May 29, 2024, detective chief inspector Micheal Ilishebo from anti-frauds unit gave him a letter with a request to extract a video from a provided Facebook link.

He said according to a letter drafted by a Mr Makukwani , an assistant superintendent he was asked to extract a video from the link https://www.facebook.com/share/V/2N16QUM5Q6qWTugc/?mibextid=0FDknk on the PF facebook page.

“I opened google chrome web browser and I keyed in the link in the browser and the link took me to a Facebook page known as Patriot Front-PF Facebook page, where a video was being broadcasted live on May 26,2024 at 14:02hours,”Phiri said.

“By virtual of the link being accessed, it took me to that page I mentioned earlier. It was confirmed that the link was accessible and valid.”

Phiri said he used a Facebook download manager to download the Facebook video and stored it on the Dell forensics work station.

“I verified the file that was downloaded against what was on the Facebook page and I confirmed that the video that I downloaded was exactly with the one on the Facebook page,” he said.

This time around Phiri managed to identify the public figures who addressed the media in the video as Emmanuel Mwamba Zambia’s former ambassador to Ethiopia, Lumezi constituency member of parliament Munir Zulu and Mfuwe member of parliament Maureen Mabonga.

He also gave a description of the clothes that the trio had donned.

Phiri could not be cross examined as Mabonga’s lawyer Leon Lemba asked for an adjournment to today to acquaint himself with the technical language used in the police officer’s report.

Magistrate Kasanda granted the application and adjourned the case to today.

I AM AT THE HOSPITAL, FOR A SUSPECTED FOOD POISONING- Chilufya Tayali

EEP President Chilufya Tayali

·

I AM AT THE HOSPITAL, FOR A SUSPECTED FOOD POISONING, BUT I WILL BE FINE AND GET BACK TO MY USUAL WORK TOMORROW.

This evening someone invited me for lunch, but I think the food was bad, because I developed terrible stomach aches. So, I called my protection officer (the condition is that I have report any little thing to this person).

He immediately came in and brought me here, and it has been established that the food I eat was not good, but I have stay over for the night, for observation.

Anyway, I have found this interesting article on the senseless action by President Hichilema to declare 9 seats vacant.

Link Forfeited Property To Crime – Court Guides

Link Forfeited Property To Crime – Court Guides
By Dickson Jere

In what can be described as landmark case, the Court of Appeal has guided the prosecutors to always link the forfeited property to a serious crime. The Court said it was not good enough to merely state that the owner has no known income to acquire property.

In this case, a suspected drug trafficker, had his property confiscated in 2016 in New Kasama on the grounds that it was built by suspected proceeds of crime. His known income could not support him owning such property as argued by the State.

When the matter came up in the High Court for non-conviction forfeiture, the Judge ordered that the property be forfeited to the State because the owner could not show how he purchased the same. It was believed money came from drug trafficking.

This prompted him to appeal in the Court of Appeal where three Judges reviewed the case and provided guidance on how to deal with forfeitures.

“The issue is whether the property is tainted in connection to a serious offence,” the Court observed.
“Therefore, a forfeiture of tainted properties, will not be made unless the offence in issue is a serious one. It does not matter whether a person has sufficient resources to enable him or her acquire properties.”

The Judges went further to state that although non-conviction based forfeiture is not based on conviction, there is need to identify the offence which the person has committed or alleged to have committed with clear connection to the property.

“The Court below lost sight of the issue by focusing on financial capacity,” the Judges said, noting that the evidence provided that intelligence reports showed that he was involved in drug trafficking was not enough.

“The question the trial Court ought to have answered is whether the property in question was tainted property”, the Judges said.

“Further, there is no evidence, on balance of probability, connecting any proceeds of crime being used to procure the plot and building of the structures thereon,” the Court observed and ordered that the property be given back to the owner.

See case of Sydney Mwansa v Director of Public Prosecutions- Appeal No. 276/2021 and Judgment delivered last month.

This is a very interesting case given the number of properties being forfeited to the State on allegations that they were proceeds of crime.

Here’s how rich US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is now

Justice Clarence Thomas is the second black person to serve on the United States Supreme Court. Born in 1948 in the Georgia low country, Thomas began his education in segregated public schools before advancing to Catholic schools for blacks, the seminary at Holy Cross, and finally Yale Law School.

Thomas and his mother and siblings grew up in his great-aunt’s house. The house had one electric light and no bathrooms. As if their situation was not bad enough, one day he returned from school to see his home gutted by fire, according to Forbes, quoting his memoir.

After the tragedy, he moved to settle with his grandparents, Myers and Christine Anderson, who welcomed him into a home outfitted with features that seemed like luxuries, including an indoor toilet, according to Forbes.

His grandfather, whom he called Daddy, paid for his tuition fee when he was at a college-level seminary in Missouri. He dropped out after a year, prompting Daddy to cut him off. When he was 20 years old, he moved back to his mother’s house, working as a paper company proofreader and securing financial aid to return to school at Holy Cross in Massachusetts. He subsequently got into Yale for law school.

He would spend almost his entire career working in the public sector. No private law firms offered him a position after graduating from Yale, so he settled for a job as an assistant attorney general in Missouri, with a starting salary of $10,800.

However, in 1976, he landed at Monsanto, the chemical giant headquartered in St. Louis, after networking through attorney general John Danforth. In 1979, Thomas and his wife bought a ranch house after taking out a mortgage. “Though our income had gone up considerably, the combined weight of taxes, living expenses and accumulated indebtedness kept us in the hole,” he wrote in his memoir.

Later, not being happy with his job and himself, he left Monsanto and returned to the public sector.

“I had manufactured artificial goals as a means of motivating myself, using my longing for money, cars, and other material possessions to create a false sense of purpose,” Forbes quoted him in his memoir.

Following Danforth’s successful run for senator, he hired Thomas to join his Senate staff. Since then, taxpayers have funded Thomas, and they will continue to do so for the remainder of his life. Later, in 1981, President Ronald Reagan nominated him to be an assistant secretary in the Department of Education. At the time, Thomas had left his wife and was still facing financial problems.

When he impressed the president in his role, Reagan asked him the following year to head the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a job that paid $70,500 (equivalent to $230,000 today). He was still having money issues but things started getting better after he married again.

President George H. W. Bush nominated him to the D.C. Court of Appeals in 1989. The position came with a $20,000 pay raise from the $82,500 Thomas had earned at the employment commission. In the same period, the Department of Labor appointed his second wife, Virginia Lamp, a lobbyist from Nebraska, to a position, placing both Thomases on the government payroll.

In 1991, he joined the U.S. Supreme Court, with its pension being his biggest asset. According to Forbes, justices continue to receive their full salary, currently $285,000, for the rest of their lives. The US magazine noted that the income stream is worth an estimated $1.8 million today.

According to Forbes, Thomas is worth an estimated $4 million, largely thanks to his high-profile position and his wife’s government pensions.

Indeed, his rise to the U.S. Supreme Court was not smooth sailing. His journey to the U.S. Supreme Court was marked by years of debt and a struggle to earn enough money to support his family and live the life he desired.

Angolan Parliament pays tribute to late Malawi’s VIP Saulos Chilima

The Angolan Parliament gathered in a solemn session to mourn the passing of Malawi’s Vice President, Saulos Klaus Chilima, who tragically died in a plane crash on June 10, 2024.

The legislature came together to pay their respects to the late leader, who was a prominent figure in African politics.

As the news of Chilima’s passing spread, shockwaves resonated throughout the continent.

His contributions to Malawi’s development and his tireless efforts in promoting regional unity and cooperation left an indelible mark on the region.

During the session, lawmakers and dignitaries eulogized Chilima, remembering his unwavering commitment to the people of Malawi and the African continent.

They highlighted his instrumental role in shaping Malawi’s history, from his early days as a politician to his rise as Vice President.

Speaker after speaker shared stories of Chilima’s selflessness, wisdom, and vision.

They praised his ability to bring people together, foster dialogue, and build consensus. His leadership and statesmanship inspired generations, and his legacy will continue to guide the nation.

The parliamentarians observed a moment of silence, paying their respects to the late statesman.

They also approved a motion to send condolences to the Government and people of Malawi, expressing their deepest sympathies during this difficult time.

In attendance were government officials, diplomats, and representatives from various sectors, all united in their grief and appreciation for Chilima’s life and work.

The ceremony served as a testament to the impact of his life, which transcended national borders and political affiliations.

Angolan President, João Lourenço, in his message of condolence, described Chilima as a “true son of Africa” who worked tirelessly for the development and unity of the continent.

He praised Chilima’s commitment to the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and his role in promoting regional integration.

The Angolan Parliament’s gesture is a fitting tribute to a leader who dedicated his life to the service of his country and the continent.

Chilima’s legacy will continue to inspire generations, and his memory will live on as a symbol of hope and unity for the people of Africa.

In the words of one lawmaker, “Chilima may be gone, but his spirit and legacy will continue to inspire us. We will carry his torch forward, ensuring that his vision for a united and prosperous Africa becomes a reality.”

As the session drew to a close, the parliamentarians reaffirmed their commitment to upholding Chilima’s values and principles. They vowed to continue his work, striving for a united, prosperous, and peaceful Africa.

The 56-year-old recently detailed the events that led to his medical emergency to a crowd gathered around him at an outdoor café in Phoenix, according to a video uploaded by the Art of Dialogue on X (previously Twitter).

He recounted, “Look, April 11th last year, bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil [snaps fingers], I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything. I’m in Atlanta, they told me — my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor.

“They gave me a cortisone shot. The next doctor said something’s going on up there [points to his head]. I won’t say it on camera,” the famous actor said, garnering giggles from the crowd. “But it was…” he shrugged as the video ended.

The Academy Award winner recently shared an Instagram message saying, “Without you I would not be here,” asserting that his sister Deidra saved his life during his health crisis, according to People. “Had you not made the decisions that you made I would’ve lost my life.”

After missing season 6 of the FOX competition Beat Shazam due to his illness, Foxx recently made a comeback. He has hinted at a return to stand-up comedy, where he promises to talk more about what happened.

The Annie star later also talked about his health issue not too long ago, saying that he was initially unable to move after seeing “the tunnel” during his near-death experience, per HipHopDX.

“It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now. It’s different,” he remarked in December of last year, during the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino, and AAPI Achievements, when he accepted the Vanguard Award.

“I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy ’cause it’s tough when you almost… when it’s almost over, when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light! It was hot in that tunnel so I didn’t know where I was going. ‘Shit, am I going to the right place?’”

He added: “I want to say six months ago I couldn’t fathom that this could happen or that I would be here, but as I walk up here to this microphone and get this Vanguard Award, all I can say is ‘Lord, have mercy, Jesus.’”

Gayton McKenzie, the gangster turned Sports Minister in South Africa

Former gangster and bank robber Gayton McKenzie, who transformed into a nightclub owner and opposition politician, has now been appointed as South Africa’s minister of sports, arts, and culture.

President Cyril Ramaphosa selected Mr. McKenzie, leader of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), for the position in the new multi-party government announced on Sunday, following the African National Congress (ANC) losing its parliamentary majority in the May 29 election.

A prolific tweeter, the 50-year-od relished his appointment, posting a photo of himself putting on football boots and, with a touch of humour, typed: “Thank you for all the well wishing messages, I will reply shortly I’m just busy getting ready, I have work to do 🥅 ⚽️.”

For Mr. McKenzie’s admirers, his appointment is a testament to how he overcame adversity to achieve success. He robbed his first bank before turning 16, became a fully-fledged gangster, and spent seven years in prison.

Following his release, he vowed to change his ways.

However, the nightclub he owned was later shut down, as was a branch in Cape Town registered in his name, following legal action over alleged unpaid rent and electricity, according to the IOL news site.

“I’m not interested in clubbing. I’m busy with other projects. We killed the Zar brand – there are no future plans [for Zar],” Mr McKenzie was quoted as saying at the time.

Nowadays, he is better known as a politician, having launched the Patriotic Alliance (PA) in 2013 with Mr. Kunene as his deputy. More than a decade later, the party secured 2% of the national vote and performed even better in the provincial elections in the Western Cape, achieving 8%.

The party’s support primarily came from the coloured community, as people of mixed race are referred to in South Africa.

The PA’s signature slogan is “Ons baiza nie”, an Afrikaans phrase which loosely translates as “We are not scared”. Afrikaans is widely spoken in the coloured community, which makes up around 8% of South Africa’s population.

“For the first time there is coloured people also going to parliament through the Patriotic Alliance. We are the only party that takes all races to parliament,” Mr McKenzie said, after the results were announced.

Political analyst Kagiso Pooe told the BBC that Mr McKenzie had a “bravado” style, which appeals to his constituency.

“People want to believe and see someone that comes from their type of background and isn’t shy to say: ‘This is who I am.’ You see it with people like President Zuma, President Trump and other such personalities,” he said.

Mr McKenzie’s campaign against undocumented migrants was a vote-winner for him, the analyst added.

“Unfortunately, mainstream politicians and parties have shied away from this and he tackles it directly.”

Critics denounced his campaign as xenophobic. He waged it under the slogan “Abahambe”, which he has translated from the Zulu as “Let them go” – and, in a publicity stunt, he visited the border with Zimbabwe to chase away people trying to enter South Africa.

He faced accusations of hypocrisy, as critics highlighted a 2013 SABC interview where he described immigrants from other parts of Africa, including Zimbabwe, as an “integral” part of South Africa’s economy. In the same interview, he controversially stated, “the problem with us is – black people I’m talking about here – we are lazy.”

As Mr. Ramaphosa began negotiations for a coalition government, Mr. McKenzie publicly expressed his desire for his deputy to run the home affairs ministry, which oversees immigration. He also sought the police ministry for himself, arguing that his previous life as a gangster uniquely positioned him to address South Africa’s high crime rate.

“None of them [other politicians] are equipped to deal with the mafias, with the murder rates we are seeing. South Africa needs me,” he was quoted as saying by the TimesLive news site.

He was unperturbed when he failed to get the post, saying he had in fact asked for the sports ministry in “off-the-record” negotiations with the ANC.
“Sport can be used to change children’s lives. A child in sport is a child out of court,” he said.

“There’s one promise I’ve made: I will make spinning [of cars] one of the biggest sports in this country,” he added in a live Facebook post.

Car spinning is a recognised motorsport in South Africa – it involves vehicles being driven in circles and a driver climbing out to perform stunts.

But there are many unregulated events and as IOL sports journalist John Goliath wrote, stigma still surrounds it as a lot of people in the coloured, Indian and black townships often do spinning in the streets, which is viewed as dangerous.

“The spinning of tyres started in the townships as a ritual to honour fallen gangsters during the apartheid era,” he said.

Mr McKenzie has promised to make it possible for car spinning to take place in a safe environment, and to help keep young people away from gangsterism and drugs.
“The spinners will be recognised,” he said, adding: “When a boy has an interest in cars, he doesn’t have time for drugs. He just worries about his car.”

But Mr Ramaphosa’s decision to give Mr Mckenzie a seat in his cabinet is politically risky, as he is at the centre of an investigation ordered by the Western Cape government. It is controlled by the Democratic Alliance (DA), a fierce political rival of the PA, although they are now partners in Mr Ramaphosa’s government.

Until last year, Mr McKenzie was the mayor of Central Karoo, and was accused of failing to account for 3m rand ($161,000, £127,000) raised at a glitzy gala dinner in 2022 to improve public services, including repairing swimming pools and replacing bucket toilets.

According to local media, a court ordered him last month – just weeks before his promotion to the cabinet – to declare certain financial records to investigators.

While the PA described the ruling as “flawed”, the DA welcomed it, saying Mr McKenzie would “soon learn that corruption does not pay off”.

The DA kept up the pressure by picketing last week in the small town of Beaufort West, which is part of Central Karoo, to demand answers about the money.

Mr McKenzie said in a post on X that he intended to visit the area to give “feedback”.

“The truth shall come out. I have nothing to hide,” he said, adding: “Lies have short legs.”

“I might have had 12 rand in my pocket but I had billion rand in my mind. And that is what people do not understand – they concentrate on what they lack instead of how to get what they lack,” he said in a 2013 interview with public broadcaster SABC.

He became a highly paid motivational speaker and authored several books about his life, including “A Hustler’s Bible.” He also ventured into various businesses, ranging from mining in Zimbabwe to running nightclubs in South Africa, partnering with Kenny Kunene, his close friend from prison.

Mr. Kunene gained the nickname “Sushi King” after his extravagant 40th birthday party at the Zar Lounge nightclub in a wealthy Johannesburg suburb, where sushi was served on the bodies of women dressed only in their underwear.

CARDI B VOWS TO ‘NEVER TURN REPUBLICAN’ DESPITE JOE BIDEN CRITICISM

Cardi B may have expressed reservations about voting for Joe Biden in the 2024 election, but she remains staunchly non-Republican.

Back in May, Cardi, who has been supportive of Biden and critical of Trump in the past, declared that she will not be voting for either in the presidential election later this year.

Apparently a fan took that as the rapper turning Republican, and when Bardi shared a snippet of a new song on Monday (July 1), the fan wrote on X: “She may have betrayed our country and turned Republican but at least she found a nice tune.”

Cardi happened to catch the post and swiftly replied, “I will never turn republican lol.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone, whose June 2024 issues she covers, Cardi B previously outlined where she stood politically.

Of Biden and Trump, she said: “I don’t fuck with both of y’all n-ggas.”

Cardi also admitted Biden’s tenure as president has left her feeling “layers and layers of disappointment.”

“I feel like people got betrayed,” she added. “It’s just like, damn, y’all not caring about nobody. Then, it really gets me upset that there is solutions to it. There is a solution. I know there’s a solution because you’re spending billions of dollars on any fucking thing.”

Cardi went on to criticize U.S. spending on war efforts in Ukraine and Israel: “[America] don’t pay for endless wars for countries that have been going through shit for a very long time. There’s countries [where] kids are getting killed every single day, but because the [U.S.] won’t benefit from that country, they won’t help.

“I don’t like that America has this superhero cape on. We never did things to be superheroes. We did things for our own convenience.”

The Bronx rap star also admitted she was concerned about being “blackballed” due to her criticism of U.S. support for Israel.

As for the new song she previewed on Instagram this week, the recording quite noticeably features the superstar singing in a way unlike the material for which she is best known.

Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum reportedly lands historic five-year $315 million deal

ayson Tatum has reportedly signed a historic deal in the NBA. According to the Bleacher Report, Tatum and the Boston Celtics have agreed to a five-year $315 million contract extension. The deal is said to be the largest contract in NBA history, surpassing his previous contract in November 2020, a five-year, $195 million max extension.

Before Tatum’s contract, Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown held the record for the richest contract in the history of the NBA. He signed a five-year supermax contract extension that ends in 2029 and will pay him up to $304 million.

After inking the deal, Brown was asked about what he intended to do with the generational wealth he earned with the contract. He responded by saying he wanted to bring Black Wall Street to Boston in a bid to attack wealth disparity.

Tatum’s new payday will be official on Jul 6, 2024, and will keep him at Celtics through to the 2029-30 season with a player option. Also, it “puts Boston on the hook for over $600 million committed to just Tatum and Brown alone — not accounting for the multi-year extensions granted to fellow Celtics starters Kristaps Porzingis (two years, $60 million), Jrue Holiday (four years, $135 million) and Derrick White (four years, $126 million)”, according to NESN.

Tatum has averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and shot 47% from the field. His impressive performance earned him All-NBA First Team honors for the third consecutive season.

In a playoff run, the numbers grew to 25 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. The run also saw him eclipse 30 points six times, including 31 in their championship-clinching Game 5 win against the Dallas Mavericks.

“All the sacrifice was worth it. I’m so thankful to have been in the positions that I was growing up,” he said, according to CBS News. “Thankful for my mom. Thankful for my dad introducing me to basketball. My grandmother who helped raise me. All my friends and family that have supported me, every coach, every teammate that I’ve had. There’s a lot of people that have had a hand in the success of Jayson Tatum. So I guess in this moment, I’m just very thankful for everybody that supported me in the highest of moments and in the lowest of moments. I’m very, very appreciative of that.”

Also, he will aspire to win more laurels when he joins the U.S. men’s basketball team when it attempts to capture its fifth consecutive gold medal. Tatum had previously won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

25 Democrats prepare to call for ailing Joe Biden to step aside after disastrous debate against Donald Trump

US President Joe Biden is reportedly facing mutiny as 25 Democrats prepare to call for the ailing president, 81, to step aside after his disappointing debate against Donald Trump.

Support for Biden appears to be crumbling among fellow Democrats, as Maine’s Jared Golden, Lloyd Doggett of Texas, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Alaska all either told Biden to drop out or said they believed he would lose to Trump.

It was also gathered that West Virginia moderate Joe Manchin had to be convinced by Washington insiders not to publicly abandon the president, and left-wing Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin is refusing to campaign with Biden in her swing state on Friday, according to Mail Online.

A House Democratic aide has said that no less than 25 Democratic members of the House of Representatives preparing to call for Biden to step aside if he seems shaky in the coming days.

A second House Democratic aide said moderate House Democrats in competitive districts – often called ‘frontliners’ were getting hammered with questions in their districts this week.

Whether Biden continues his 2024 bid for president after his halting debate performance against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is largely his decision, Democrats and political strategists have said.

U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett became the first congressional Democrat to call for Biden to withdraw from the presidential race on Tuesday. He told NBC News in an interview that he hoped other Democratic lawmakers would follow his lead.

‘It looks like the dam has broken,’ the second aide said.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi highlighted Biden’s multiple legislative accomplishments during an interview with MSNBC Tuesday but said it was legitimate to ask whether his debate performance was a one-night thing or a broader health problem. She said Trump should be given the same scrutiny.

‘I think it’s a legitimate question to say, ‘Is this an episode or is this a condition?’ And so when people ask that question, it’s legitimate, of both candidates,’ Pelosi said.

Biden, speaking at a campaign event in Virginia on Tuesday evening without a teleprompter, blamed his performance on a lack of sleep and said his campaign had raised $38 million since the debate.

‘The fact is that you know, I wasn´t very smart. I decided to travel around the world a couple times, going through around 100 time zones … before … the debate. Didn´t listen to my staff and came back and nearly fell asleep on stage,’ he said. ‘That’s no excuse but it is an explanation.’

Ivanka Trump broke her silence regarding her father’s recent hush money criminal conviction

Ivanka Trump broke her silence regarding her father’s recent hush money criminal conviction during a podcast appearance released Tuesday, July 2.

The former US First Daughter and White House staffer said the experience has been agonizing.

“On a human level, it’s my father and I love him very much, so it’s painful to experience, but ultimately, I wish it didn’t have to be this way,” she said on “The Lex Fridman Podcast.”

In May, ex-President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in his New York trial related to a dalliance with adult film star Stormy Daniels, and his efforts to cover up payments made to keep her quiet.

However, sentencing in the case was delayed until September following the Supreme Court’s controversial ruling regarding presidential immunity earlier this week.

Ivanka Trump worked in the White House during her father’s time in office but has said she is stepping away from politics, which she described as a “rough, rough business.”

She reiterated those sentiments in Tuesday’s interview.

She said: “It was a decision rooted in me being a parent, really thinking about what (my children) need from me now.

“Politics is a rough business and I think it’s one that you also can’t dabble in, I think you have to be either all in or all out.”

Ivanka, who has not been a public presence as her dad seeks reelection, added it could be very hard on her kids to get fully involved in the campaign and that she’s “not willing to make them bear that cost.”

“As their mom, I think it’s really important that I do what’s right for them. I think there are lot of ways you can serve, the enormity, the scale of what can be accomplished in government service, but I think there’s something equally valuable in helping in your own community,” she added.

Trump also faces criminal charges related to election interference stemming from the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol and mishandling of classified documents, as well as separate election interference charges in Georgia.

19-year-old Indiana man is facing decades in prison after he was arrested for allegedly strangling his mother to death

A 19-year-old Indiana man is facing decades in prison after he was arrested for allegedly strangling his mother to death.

Conner Kobold, 19, has been charged with two counts of murder and one of aggravated battery in connection with the death of his mother, 43-year-old Shanelle Burns.

On February 5, police were sent to the home where Kobold and Burns lived in Valparaiso. Burns was found unresponsive and not breathing in the living room as Kobold shockingly confessed to strangling her. She was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Kobold now faces mental health investigations over both his decision to represent himself at trial and the reason he allegedly killed his mother.

According to Mail Online, the mother and son’s relationship became strained, so she issued him with an eviction letter. She also gave him 30 days to find a full-time job, clean his room, and help out around the house.

19-year-old man strangles his mother to death after she served him eviction notice for refusing to get a job or clean his room

As Kobold attempts to be his own lawyer, Superior Court Judge Michael Fish called on a mental health professional to investigate his competency.

‘I want Dr. (Anand) Popli to chime in on whether you’re capable of representing yourself,’ Fish said Friday.

Fish asked: ‘I guess the most important thing out of the gate here is for me to make sure that you understand the penalty for murder is 45 to 65 years. Do you understand that?’

‘Yes, your honour,’ said Kobold.

Fish also tried to explain to him the advantages and disadvantages of being your own attorney and the qualifications they usually have.

He was then asked: ‘Do you believe you have any skills or abilities that would help you represent yourself?’

Kobold responded: ‘I believe my case is so unique that the only person who can explain what happened and why it happened is myself’

Fish asked Kobold about his educational background and his experiences in a courtroom and with public speaking.

Kobold said he has a high school education and had done public speaking while in school but had never been in court before.

He then admitted that he had been in mental health facilities twice and had gone through five different psychologists.

Kobold said that despite his challenges, he would not be affected in acting on his own behalf in court.

He was then asked if he planned to enter a plea or go to trial in his first act as his attorney.

‘Whatever I can do to help the court and the jury make the best decision about my situation,’ Kobold said.

After being informed he had to make that decision himself, he said he would negotiate with the state first.

Fish gave Kobold a waiver to represent himself pending what the doctor says about the defendant’s mental health.

If convicted on all three counts, Kobold faces anywhere between 45 and 84 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

A trial date is set for August 6.

Eddie Murphy has revealed the conversation he had with late actor Marlon Brando early on in his career

American actor, Eddie Murphy has revealed the conversation he had with late actor Marlon Brando early on in his career.

Murphy was just 19 years old when he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1980.

His first movie, 48 Hrs with Nick Nolte, was a box office hit, earning $78.8 million (which equates to $256.46 million when adjusted for inflation) and taking the seventh spot on the year-end top 10.

While promoting his new film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Murphy revealed to The New York Times some bizarre advice given to him by Marlon Brando.

After his rise through SNL and his successful transition to the big screen, Murphy revealed, ‘I was having these famous people that I grew up watching on television wanting to have a meal with me.’

‘After 48 Hrs, Marlon Brando calls my agent and wants to meet me. Now I look back and go, “Wow, that’s crazy: The greatest actor of all time wants to have dinner with you!”‘ he admitted.

‘But back then I just thought, “Well, that’s the way it is: You make a movie, and Marlon Brando calls,”‘ he added.

He added that Brando picked him up and took him to his house on Mulholland Drive, where Murphy, ‘was just going on and on about The Godfather.’

‘And he was like, “Eh, The Godfather.” Not just The Godfather — acting. He was like, “Acting is bulls**t, and everybody can act,”‘ Murphy said.

Murphy also revealed an actor Brando said during their meal together that he couldn’t stand at the time.

‘This is how long ago it was: He was going, “I can’t stand that kid with the gun.” I was like, “What kid with the gun?” He said, “He’s on the poster!” I was like, “Clint Eastwood?” “Yeah, that guy!” He was calling Clint Eastwood “that kid,”‘ Murphy said.

He also opened up about a night at just 19 years of age when he went to the Blues Bar – the then-iconic bar run by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd – with Belushi and Robin Williams.

‘I remember I was 19, I went to the Blues Bar. It was me, Belushi and Robin Williams. They started doing coke, and I was like, “No, I’m cool,”‘ Murphy said.

He explained, ‘I wasn’t taking some moral stance. I just wasn’t interested in it. To not have the desire or the curiosity, I’d say that’s providence. God was looking over me in that moment.’

Belushi passed away from a cocaine overdose just a few years later in March 1982 at just 33 years of age.

After Belushi’s death, Williams never touched cocaine, since he was partying with Belushi the night before his demise.

However, he would later have issues with alcohol later in life before his passing in 2014 at 63.

You need help, you can’t become a legend with mouth – Sunday Oliseh fires back at Mikel Obi

Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has fired back at John Mikel Obi after the ex-Chelsea midfielder questioned his coaching ability on his podcast.

Sunday Oliseh was appointed as Super Eagles coach in July 2015, and he spent eight months on the job.

Sadly, his time in charge of the Super Eagles was marred with a lot of controversies.

In the first months of Oliseh’s appointment, former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama retired after an altercation with him. It was also speculated that some of the players were not happy with Oliseh during his reign.

Speaking in January on his Podcast, former Super Eagles captain, Mikel, who was one of the senior players on the team at the time, described Sunday Oliseh as “easily the worst manager I played under.”

“He (Oliseh) had absolutely no clue of how a manager is. He was a fantastic guy in his playing days, but he was a terrible coach. He absolutely had no clue of what he was doing,” the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner said.

“The players never understood anything he was doing, and he did not know what he was doing. He was just confused because he just came in and destroyed the team togetherness.

“He was easily the worst manager I played under.

“He was so bitter with everybody, jealous with everybody, and had no respect for speaking to anybody, whether the physio or anybody, ” Mikel added.

In a new interview with Elegbete TV, Oliseh reacted to Mikel’s comments by slamming the former Chelsea midfielder, who he also told to seek help.

“I think the kid(Mikel) needs help, to be honest. There’s something I’ve not really shown much, I won the best coach for the first period of the Jupiler league, which is in the Dutch league. That was not voted by the press, that was voted by the players and the coaches of the league,” Oliseh told Elegbete TV.

“I’m the only, and the first coloured man from Sub-Saharan Africa to ever win this title with with a club like Fortuna Sittard, who had very average players were able to qualify from the second division from last position to the first division, where they still are now.

“I don’t need to justify myself being a good coach or anything to the kid. I call him (Mikel) a kid because my son is 27 years old.

“When he made this statement, I heard about it, but I couldn’t go on television and start arguing with someone like him. It’s degrading as a coach, you don’t go into the media and start arguing with your player.

“But I would like to help the boy because I think he needs some help. You cannot become a legend with your mouth.

“You cannot achieve what you were not able to achieve on the pitch outside the pitch by talking on a podcast.

Oliseh also slammed Mikel for publicly complaining about his demanding family members, who were always asking him for money.

“What shocked me with Mikel Obi was that never in the history of Nigeria or African football has one player ever gone on to a foreign podcast and totally humiliate his family by calling them beggars, problems, and everything.

“How can you do this to your family. In Africa, it is our pride when you earn something or you help your family. In fact, it is your duty.

“Dosu Joseph is one of my best friends, he’s like a brother to me. Before Obi made it in football, Dosu housed Mikel in his house and fed him. I bet people don’t know this. Dosu is still doing well, albeit handicapped because of an accident.

“Despite the help that Dosu gave Mikel, has he ever gone to say hello? With all the millions he has made, help the poor guy(Dosu).

“I heard he said something about me treating Elderson Echiejile wrong, but that is misinformation he has given to Nigerians. But that is wrong Echiejile’s uncle is my good friend. I even advised Echiejile when he had issues with his coach at Monaco.

“The problem I had with Mikel was that I didn’t find him good enough to play that position when I coached him.

“I felt we had a home-based player that was best. And when we played a World Cup qualifier against Swaziland, because Mikel had played badly in the first leg three days earlier, when we came back, I played Paul Onobi in his place. Paul was eventually voted as the best player by the opposition coach.

Oliseh also added that Mikel is currently seeking attention because he is just coming to terms with the changes in life after retiring from football.

“I have no grudge against Mikel, I just feel that he needs help. If he wants, he can call me, I will give him advice.

“When people stop football, most players are lost, they don’t know what to do. During their days, some of them were so arrogant that they don’t talk to people. But after retiring, they realize that they need people after all. They have to try to get back into the system. I know that is what Mikel is going through now, but there are ways to do it.

“One of the first things to do is to educate and work on yourself. For example, we saw the Ivory Coast player that went to the university to get a degree. If he wants to do podcasting, it’s good, but it’s not by attacking people and insulting, and demolishing people.

“I heard him make comments about Kanu not being the most decorated Super Eagles player, but that is not what sells podcasts is what you have in your brain. So Mikel should educate himself, fill it with things, and then you can share.”

Zambia’s Political Circus: The Misadventures of Miles  “Mbappe” Sampa

Zambia’s Political Circus: The Misadventures of “Mbappe” Sampa

In a twist of events that would make even the most seasoned political pundits dizzy, the Zambian political landscape has been turned upside down by the antics of one man: Miles Sampa, now affectionately known as “Mbappe” Sampa.

Sampa, the self-proclaimed president and secretary-general of the opposition Patriotic Front – PF party, has been on a rollercoaster ride of drama that would put the most outrageous reality shows to shame.

It all started when Sampa managed to snatch the PF leadership from the former president, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, much to the delight of the ruling UPND party. Sampa then proceeded to destabilize the PF, creating two factions and leaving the party in complete disarray.

Just when we thought the chaos couldn’t get any worse, Sampa decided to up the ante. He fired his own party secretary-general, Morgan Ng’ona, and declared himself the new secretary-general. But the real shocker came when Sampa was spotted having a cozy “evening tea” with none other than Lungu himself.

It was like something straight out of a comedy series. One minute, Sampa is the darling of the UPND, the next, he’s cozying up to the very man he supposedly overthrew. You can’t make this stuff up!

The drama didn’t stop there. In a display of paranoia that would make even the most eccentric dictator blush, Sampa is now threatening disciplinary action against his top supporter Robert Chabinga.

In a letter Sampa has published some WhatsApp conversation between Chabinga and him.

Chabinga who is Mafinga Member of Parliament sent a series of threatening WhatsApp messages to Sampa after Sampa removed him from the Central Committee.

“My brother, don’t think you’re a star,” Chabinga wrote in one message. “I risked my life for you and spent my time and resources, and then you behave this way to me. You shall regret knowing me!”

Sampa, who claims to be bewildered by Chabinga’s outburst, has given a 48-hour ultimatum to explain himself or face disciplinary action. It’s a move that has left the Zambian public scratching their heads and wondering if Sampa has completely lost the plot.

Mbappe Sampa is like a walking, talking political comedy, one minute, he’s firing his own party members, the next, he’s threatening them with disciplinary action. It’s like he’s living in his own little world, and the rest are just along for the ride.

As the saga continues to unfold, the Zambian public can’t help but wonder what other antics Sampa has up his sleeve. Will he reconcile with Lungu and hand over the PF leadership, or will he continue his reign of political chaos? Only time will tell in this wild ride of Zambian politics.

WHAT IS THE REAL CAUSE OF SUCCESSIVE OVER BORROWING BY GOVERNMENTS IN ZAMBIA- Fred M’membe

WHAT IS THE REAL CAUSE OF SUCCESSIVE OVER BORROWING BY GOVERNMENTS IN ZAMBIA

Today, I want to look at why successive Zambian governments have ended up over borrowing beyond their means and leaving their successors in a debt dilemma. We saw the PF on this trajectory, and despite insisting that the debt was sustainable, we ended up in debt default, though partially attributed to economic contraction as a result of  the pandemic.

Sadly, we are seeing the UPND on the same trajectory under the guise of resolving the challenges PF left. Again, history repeating itself, UPND uses concession loans as a guise to borrow, but it amounts to the same thing, a loan is a loan regardless of the interest rate charged. At some point, it has to be repaid. UPND has even gone further and invaded the domestic market through the issuance of government securities, which has crowded out the private sector from accessing affordable credit. So here, the default is probable on both external and domestic debt, presently estimated at $15.5 billion and K250 billion, respectively. PF left these debts at $11.7 billion and K170 billion, respectively.

So does it mean our intelligent presidents, Ministers of Finance and Cabinet, in its entirety, cannot foresee the danger of debt default way ahead of time and take measures to restrain or even bring down the debt? The answer is that they are fully aware.

So the next question is if they are aware, why embark on this reckless borrowing path? The answer is that they do that to preserve their political existence, which culminates in personal benefits.

Our election cycle is 5 years, and every member of Parliament, among which some of them are Cabinet Ministers, have this strong desire to retain their seats, including the President. To achieve this, they have to convince the voters that they brought development and massive support to their respective constituencies and ultimately the country with respect to the president retaining power. If you listen to Parliament radio, the Minister of Infrastructure is mostly on the floor because every MP is asking for a hospital, school, police post, road, stadium, and so on and so forth. This is so as to please the voters in their respective constituencies irrespective of the debt impact on the country. I am told that if you had to cost every capital project each MP is requesting for in Parliament, the figure comes to somewhere around $48 billion. These requests are blind to the fact that, can we afford or not. Resultant effect is debt is contracted to achieve re-election and political preservation.

This political continuity desire drives them into making irrational decisions to prove to the voters that they must be voted back. At this point, future economic sustainability is irrelevant in their judgment, and the single most desire is to bounce back.

This irrational thinking is what has caused debt issues in this country. Debt will be recklessly contracted to hoodwink voters and put up projects, some of which are unnecessary just to win votes. After all, the attitude is one which says if I lose my seat, someone else will clean the mess. A clear example is the two re-issued Eurobonds with maturities in 2031 and 2032. Mr Hakainde Hichilema sees this as not being his problem because assuming he gets second term, he will be out of office by the time the bonds mature and it will be his successor to deal with the repayment. In between, he can retain power and politically exist without worrying about repayment.

So successive governments have fallen into debt to please the voters in their personal pursuit to retain power and enjoy the benefits that holding power brings for personal gain. ITS SELF BEFORE COUNTRY and not the other way round.

My prediction is that we will see more debt being contracted as we head into 2026 elections under the guise of drought, but infact it’s for personal political survival. Social protection programmes will be heavily targeted to please the voters for UPND re-election.

As things stand Mr Hichilema cannot explain what he has done with the $4-6 billion debt he has contracted since his coming to power as their is no visibility of any project worth mentioning, unlike PF though borrowed recklessly, at least we can see the infrastructure
In conclusion, we need a leader who is more concerned about the well-being of his fellow citizens, now and in the future. A leader that will not worry about self-preservation but the well-being of the people. A leader that will make rational decisions within the resources available and not exaggerate his performance through unsustainable borrowing and leave the country in a mess.

This is what SP is offering to this country. COUNTRY BEFORE SELF – a better Zambia with or without us.

“Be Serious! How can you load-shed Hospitals” Kampyongo questions Energy Minister

“Be Serious! How can you load-shed Hospitals” Kampyongo questions Energy Minister

…as the new ZESCO schedule G shows that hospitals and Lusaka Water Areas will be loadshedded from 20hrs to 8hrs…..

Lusaka, July 3, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament Hon. Stephen Kampyongo has questioned why the Minister of Energy has blatantly disregard the presidential directive on electricity supply to critical facilities such as Hospitals and Water Supply Systems companies.

Speaking when he rose of an urgent matter without notice in Parliament this afternoon, Hon. Kampyongo highlighted a recent directive by His Excellency the Republican President that aimed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all hospitals and other vital institutions.

Kampyongo revealed that despite these clear instructions, a new load-shedding schedule issued on July 1 by ZESCO, the national power utility company, listed hospitals in Group G of Lusaka Province for power cuts from 08:00 to 20:00 hours.

“You can only imagine how that is going to impact our people,” he stated passionately, pointing out the critical danger posed to patients needing urgent medical attention.

The schedule’s inclusion of hospitals sparked outrage, with Hon. Kampyongo criticizing the Minister of Energy and ZESCO for their failure to comply with the President’s mandate.

He described their actions as a severe disregard for the welfare of the citizens and accused them of undermining national directives, which were issued with public safety in mind.

“This is not a joking matter,” Kampyongo declared. “It is inexcusable for the Minister, alongside ZESCO, to defy the presidential directives. Their actions have become a thorn in the flesh for many, including our manufacturing industry, which is also struggling due to power shortages.”

The parliamentary session saw strong support for Kampyongo’s stance, with calls for accountability and immediate rectification of the power supply issues to hospitals and other critical sectors. The laid schedule was a tangible piece of evidence demonstrating the negligence and mismanagement of power resources.

Madam Speaker has since directed the Minister of Energy to present to the House a Ministerial Statement on the matter on Friday.

As the debate continues, the nation watches closely, hoping for swift action to resolve the power supply challenges and restore confidence in the leadership overseeing this vital sector.

NEW HERITAGE PARTY RESPONSE TO RECENT IMF STATEMENT ON THE EFFECTS OF FUEL SUBSIDIES ON COUNTRIES WORLD WIDE

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW HERITAGE PARTY RESPONSE TO RECENT IMF STATEMENT ON THE EFFECTS OF FUEL SUBSIDIES ON COUNTRIES WORLD WIDE.

03/07/24

The NEW HERITAGE PARTY wishes to address recent statements made by the IMF Resident Representative, Mr Eric Lautier, who has asserted that fuel subsidies only benefit the rich and wealthy in our country and that, therefore, as a country we should not consider effecting measures to subsidise fuel and by implication not to even consider subsidies on other strategic social and economic needs such as agriculture inputs.

This claim, purportedly supported by numerous unspecified studies conducted in various countries, lacks transparency and specificity. The Resident Representative did not identify the institutions responsible for these studies, the countries where the research was conducted, or the conditions under which these conclusions were drawn. It is worth noting though that in the same statement, the Resident Representative goes on to say that “they (the poor) are also the less able to absorb some of the additional cost brought by the removal of the subsidy, both through higher energy costs of cooking, heating, lighting, and personal transport and through higher prices for other goods and services, including food,” he said.
Such generalized and contradictory claims against fuel subsidies, and subsidies in general, are a familiar IMF norm and which are included in their conditionalities. This approach has been historically imposed on countries that engage in IMF debt restructuring programs, often disregarding the unique socio-economic conditions of the client country. The consequences of these policies have been devastating for many nations.

Examples of the adverse impacts of IMF-imposed conditionalities are abundant. In Greece, the austerity measures led to severe economic contraction and widespread hardship. In Ghana, similar policies resulted in significant socio-economic challenges. Recently, Kenya has faced considerable difficulties under these conditions.

Zambia is experiencing the same devastating effects for a second time. Our country remembers all too well the food shortages, riots, and attempted coups that followed the implementation of such policies. These conditions contributed to the downfall of the UNP government under Dr. Kaunda, bringing about significant turmoil and instability.

The New Heritage Party stands firm in opposition to the IMF Resident Representative’s assertions and the broader IMF agenda that often overlooks the specific needs and realities of individual countries. We believe that a more nuanced and context-sensitive approach to economic policy is essential for sustainable development and the well-being of our people.

We urge all stakeholders to critically examine these generalized assertions and consider the historical evidence of their impact. Our priority must be to develop economic policies that are tailored to our unique circumstances and that prioritize the welfare of all citizens, not just a select few.

As the New Heritage Party, we are convinced that the real reason why the IMF is against subsidies in countries under their debt restructuring programmes, is because they want to ensure that priority is given to debt servicing, which directly benefits their masters, and shareholders, in this case, mostly the Western countries, the bond holders, and vulture funds that they represent. They are merely playing their gangster role of “enforcer” on behalf of these entities. It is the reason why that in addition to removal of subsidies, they insist on removal of vital taxes on cash outflows by foreign companies involved in the large-scale exploitation of our minerals and other natural resources, including land.

As a party founded on the principles of the protection of our national heritage, namely, our land, and all it’s mineral wealth for the exclusive benefit of Zambian citizens, now and in the future, we strongly condemn this neo-colonial stance by the IMF through its local representative and their Zambian collaborators, the UPND government. It is a great shame that a foreign entity such as the IMF, can order our experts, technocrats and government officials to gather and be made to rubber stamp a foreign inspired agenda against their own country.

FROM CHIPATA TO THE NATIONAL TEAM- A TRIBUTE TO JUSTIN SHONGA

FROM CHIPATA TO THE NATIONAL TEAM- A TRIBUTE TO JUSTIN SHONGA

Justin was the pride of Eastern Province having attained the status of Zambia’s celebrated football star.

Justin Shonga was one of the few indigenous footballers from Chipata to have played in the Zambia National Soccer team.

He joined the likes of Sandrous Kumwenda, Billy Mwanza, Fashion Sakala among others, to have donned national colours.

Cut from a footballing family,Justin started his career at St Anne’s Primary School, Chipata Day Secondary School and later on at Smiling Kids before joining Young Stars.

His elder brothers Teddy, Philemon, John, Mathews or Zola and Lazarus were all good footballers during their prime but none played professional football.

Baya, as Justin was fondly known in Eastern Province, left remarkable footprints in all the teams he played for.

His last club in Eastern Province was then FAZ division one side Young Stars before joining the Zambia Police Service outfit Nkhwazi FC.

He was not only a footballer but also a police officer under the Zambia Police Service.

Justin’s father, an ardent soccer fan, used to watch his son play at David Kaunda Stadium.

It is indisputable fact that the people of Hollywood township where the Shonga family resides and the country in general will greatly miss Justin.

He was not only a good footballer but also a social and good person off the field of play.

“If I score in the next game, you will have no option but to publish my picture in The Post Newspaper,” Shonga remarked to this reporter during an interview in 2011 when was playing for Smiling Kids.

While at Orlando Pirates, Shonga would come to my inbox to remind me not to miss the Soweto derby between his side and Kaizer Chiefs.

The cold hand of death has taken away our jewelry, our hero who took Zambian football by storm.

Justin could be gone but his indelible football memories will remain forever.

It is incontestable that Shonga’s mesmerizing football antics were a marvel to watch.

(The author of this article knew Justin Shonga from his childhood.)
