WITNESS ELLEN MIBENGE CONFIRMS THAT SHE HAS HAD A RELATIONSHIP WITH STATE HOUSE MEDIA DIRECTOR CLAYSON HAMASAKA FOR OVER 8 YEARS

By Daily Nation Zambia reporter

A UPND cadre by the name of Ellen Mibenge has confirmed that she has had a relationship with State House Media Director for 8 years from the time she decided to be a member of the UPND. Mibenge was testifying in the matter in which National Democratic Congress President Saboi Imboela was appearing in court for defamation of Clayson Hamasaka.

The witness testified that on 9th September 2022, she was browsing on her phone and being an ardent follower of the Saboi Imboela- SI page, she came across posts that disturbed her. Mibenge who ably memorised the 3 postings she referred to said that the first one was ‘If you think there is no corruption in UPND, go to ghostly Hamasaka’s farm, which has been developed in the last few months that they have been in power, thieves.’

She said another post read that ‘his farm is being developed by the Chinese, this is the character I said had booked permanent rooms at hotels where he is taking women from UPND that are looking for jobs, to sleep with them.’ She mentioned that the last one was ‘Hamasaka was caught red handed by his wife committing chigololo. And currently their marriage is on the rocks.’

The Prosecutor asked the witness how the postings made her feel, but the Magistrate reminded him that she was a witness of fact and her feelings were of no relevance to the case. ‘ It’s not about her, it’s about facts,’ the magistrate said. The witness said that immediately she read the postings on the Saboi Imboela- SI page, she called a Hamasaka that she knows.

Asked by defence Counsel, how many Hamasakas she knows out of 20 million Zambians, the witness said she only knows one Hamasaka. She was further asked if any of the quotes she read mentioned Clayson Hamasaka or simply Hamasaka, but the witness said that it was only Hamasaka and not Clayson Hamasaka that was mentioned.

Asked whether she had a relationship with Hamasaka, the witness answered to the affirmative. ‘Do your confirm that you have a relationship with Clayson Hamasaka?’ Asked counsel Jonas Chirwa, ‘Yes I confirm that I do.’ Answered Ellen Mibenge.

The NDC President was represented by James Tembo from Makebi Zulu Advocates, Jonas Chirwa from Ferd Jere and Company, and Benjamin Mwelwa of Messrs Linus E. Eyaa and Partners.

Solwezi businessman found dead in his car

A BUSINESSMAN of Solwezi in North-Western Province has been found dead in his car.

According to police, Kankasa Kapiji’s body was decomposed by the time it was discovered and
bottles of what was believed be Doom insecticide was also found in motor vehicle.

Kapiji, 51, was the owner of Buffalo Wings located in Solwezi district.

The businessman was last seen alive in Solwezi on January 4, 2023 around 23:00 hours before his vehicle was discovered parked at a guest house in Kakaindu area of Kalumbila district on Sunday afternoon.

After being alerted of a parked vehicle with what could be a dead person in it, police rushed to the scene where they found the deceased in a seated position on the rear passenger seat of the Ford Explorer registration number ATB 3120.

“Upon inspection, the body was swollen and in a decomposed state,” Zambia Police Service deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale told Kalemba in a statement.

Mwale said police initial investigations indicate that Kapiji had booked a room at a named guest house where he is alleged to have spent a night.

“Further investigations also indicate that the motor vehicle, Ford Explorer belonged to the deceased,” he revealed.

Mwale said Kapiji’s body had since been deposited in Solwezi General Hospital to await post-mortem and burial while police had opened an inquiry file into the matter.

If there is a legacy UPND has created so far it’s a legacy of lies – Kelvin Kaunda

If there is a legacy UPND has created so far it’s a legacy of lies – Kaunda

By Walusungu Lundu

WE ARE not God who can cause things to happen by word of mouth, we are human beings; in things that require effort, apply effort, Kelvin Kaunda lectures the UPND government amid load shedding and other economic hardships Zambians are currently grappling with.

The Socialist Party national youth chairperson for security said Zambians have heard a lot of “promises” adding that the country cannot continue on the same trajectory.

Featuring on Muvi TV’s Special Interview on Wednesday, Kaunda reminded President Hakainde Hichilema of his stance on load shedding when he was in opposition.

‘’The President had a view when PF was in power that the reason the country was experiencing load shedding was lack of leadership. The President, prior to 2021 elections, promised Zambians that the issue in question would be a thing of the past once he gets into power,’’ Kaunda said. ‘’And in his address to the nation last year on 13th December, the President boasted of curbing load shedding, adding that there are things his administration had been doing in the background to ensure that there is no more load shedding.

He even challenged journalists that attended the conference to speak out if they had been experiencing load shedding at that time.’’

And Kaunda wondered if load shedding is still as a result of lack of leadership.

He challenged President Hichilema to confess that he has failed to provide leadership over the national energy crisis.

“It’s interesting that when the current President was in opposition, he said the only reason this country was experiencing load shedding was the absence of leadership. That is how he defined load shedding. I am not sure now whether those words are still true and alive. Whether it’s because even now when he is in that position as a President, equally, we can safely say as Zambian people that still there is absence of leadership,’’ he said. ‘’We were told during press briefing that this government has resolved the issue of load shedding. And in fact, you the journalists that attended that briefing were challenged if anyone of you had been load shedded. And the leadership went on to brag that there are actually certain things they have been doing behind the curtains, that’s the more reason we have been saved from experiencing load shedding. But barely 72 hours after the almighty press conference, reality has dawned. It only gets to tell us one thing, that it is easier said than done. We need practical leadership that understands how challenges of our time can better be addressed. We have heard a lot of rhetoric over the years; we have heard a lot of promises over the years. And we can’t afford on this same trajectory.”

Kaunda stressed the need for the country to have leadership that will take very difficult and tough decisions in mitigating the “challenges of our time’’.

He also bemoaned the tendency of politicking issues that need to be attended to by the current administration.

“And this approach where we want to be politicking all the time, there is a time when we should do politics and there is a time for us to deal with issues that affect our people. We can’t continue doing politics all the time from 1st January to 31st December, no. I think as a country we need to understand time… we don’t seem to understand when we must do politics and which time requires us to provide practical and relevant leadership which requires dealing with the challenges our people are faced with,’’ said Kaunda. ‘’Today the issue of load shedding is a sorry side. Our people are at pain. The small businesses are at a loss yet the leaders are telling us that they are equal to the task of turning around our economy. How are you going to turn around the economy when the welders in the market who you have told to manufacture the desks which you are going to deliver in these schools have no power? They don’t even have the capacity to procure the gen sets. They are spending the entire day waiting for electricity which is only being given to them at 01:00 hours. So expect you them to be leaving their wives and leaving their families at 01and get back to their workshops? By the time they get to their workshops, there is no power. And then you’re telling us that you’re going to turn around the economy! How?’’

Load shedding an act of human negligence, incompetence – Moyo

Load shedding an act of human negligence, incompetence – Moyo

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone

USING God as an excuse for load shedding because he is not available to answer is not right, says Joseph Moyo.

He says load shedding is an act of human negligence and accumulative incompetence.

Recently UPND deputy secretary general Gertrude Imenda told News Diggers that load shedding being experienced in the country has been caused by low water levels, which she said is an act of God.

She said when UPND promised to end load shedding, it was looking at factors which had nothing to do with acts of nature.

“When you plan something to say you are going to do this, it is an assumption that all things being equal, meaning without any external shock. The load shedding that we experienced in the immediate past years had nothing to do with the act of nature, it had something to do with operations, planning or lack of it,” said Imenda.

But Moyo, who is president of The African Woman Foundation (TAWF), said despite load sheding not being a UPND problem but an accrued issue from time immemorial, the ruling party must stop the “curse”.

“Load shedding is not an act of God but an act of human negligence and accumulative incompetence. It is not a result of water deficiency but accumulative historical leadership deficiency both on political and corporate leadership at the power utility,” he said. “It is upsetting to hear about water levels from Zesco each time they want to prepare our psyche for loading shedding. I can’t walk, but I have to find another way by using a wheelchair as an alternative. Using God as an escape valve because he is not available to answer is not right.”

Moyo noted that there is no way government or Zesco can continue to talk about water and rains year-after-year when there are alternatives to hydropower generation.

He said then minister of energy under the PF government told the nation that a ship was sailing from China with solar equipment as a way to avoid dependency on water.

“What happened? Where did the ship dock? Why has the country not looked at alternative sources of energy? Doesn’t the political and corporate leadership understand water levels by calculating to know what we had was going to get exhausted and plan ahead? Are they telling us that they are surprised at the dwindling water levels? Didn’t they foresee it coming?” Moyo asked. “As a patient who sometimes depends on assisted power plugged breathing device how would I survive? Power is all things to all men. To some it’s life or death. To some it’s generation of income for breakfast, lunch or dinner and yet some it is that elusive once in a day meal through a small business to afford that very meal.”

He advised political leadership and Zesco managment not to gamble with power.

“A week ago at the energy meeting our President captured the situation very correctly by admitting that the Zesco failures are as a result of both the past and present, of not looking at alternative sources to power the nation. This problem was not caused by the UPND led government. It is an accrued problem from past governments to date. However, this government should and must stop the curse,” Moyo said.

He mocked Zesco engineers as professionals who zoom up to the skies to check the clouds every day and night to determine whether “the next day, week or month the country will have rains so as to generate power”.

“As a country we must know that what brought us this far and sustained us, can not be what carries us further. If we came this far with a Fiat 127 car, we need an off-roader cruiser the next journey in powering the nation. Water cannot and should not be a perpetual political or corporate excuse. This does not hold water anymore,” he said.

“Poor planning at Zesco is not an act of God. It is an act of human negligence. It is also not about water deficiency but leadership deficiency. As I have stated this is not a problem brought by the UPND government. They found it. Even PF found it. But someone has to end this. For Zambians power is life or death in many other aspects especially that small business solely dependent on electricity with no capacity to fund alternative power for themselves.”

Moyo said being a Christian nation does not absorb Zambia from good planning and turn into spiritual Zombies waiting for fruits to fall.

“We got to shake the tree or climb. It is upsetting to hear about water levels from Zesco each time they want to prepare our psych for loading shedding. I can’t walk, but I have to find another way by using a wheelchair as an alternative way,” said Moyo.

President HH does not have a good cabinet that meets the aspirations of the Zambians- Steve Chungu

0

Former Patriotic Front (PF) Luanshya Member of Parliament Steve Chungu has charged that President Hakainde Hichilema does not have a good cabinet that meets the aspirations of the Zambian people.

Mr. Chungu, the former Government Chief Whip, said most of the cabinet ministers and their portfolios in the New Dawn government are under performing.

He said some people believe President Hichilema has made ministers lack political track record and experience.

“I don’t know the members of the cabinet. I don’t know the Ministers. I don’t remember seeing them when I served as Member of Parliament during my time in Parliament. I can’t remember seeing any of those guys, knowing where they are coming from. I do not know them. There is no political track record, apart from Honourable Elijah Muchima (Lands Minister), Honourable Garry Nkombo (Local Government Minister), Honourable Douglas Siakalima (Education Minister), Honourable Cornelius Mweetwa (Southern Province Minister) those are the people are worked with in my ten year term as Member of Parliament. Just a few of them, the rest of them I don’t know. I am just also getting this information from the Zambian people that they are very disappointed with the team under President Hakainde Hichilema. His cabinet is not performing according to the expectations of the people because many of our sectors, many of the ministries they have put up, like the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises; I don’t know why it is there and what it is doing,” Mr. Chungu said.

He questioned the performance of Energy Minister Peter Kapala and his Infrastructure colleague Charles Milupi.

“There is another ministry called Green Economy, I don’t know what it is doing. I don’t know what it has done in the last one year, five months. There is nothing to talk about. Provincial Ministers, I think the only one I have heard of having his name on the ground, talking about things that are making sense is Cornelius Mweetwa for Southern Province, Credo Nanjuwa from Central Province. The other ministers are mute. There is nothing coming from them. So President Hichilema does not have a good team. He does not have a good team. Look at the Energy Minister (Peter Kapala), the Minister of Infrastructure (Charles Milupi), when he came in we heard a lot that we will do this and that. He was all over the country checking on roads, condemning this and that, they (PF) should have done better but it’s now seventeen months but nothing has happened. Even the Ndola-Lusaka Road they promised that it will be worked on but as we speak the contractor is not on site,” Mr. Chungu said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chungu said if President Hichilema was a tough leader he would have fired Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo Phiri for mishandling the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

Late distribution of inputs characterised the 2022 FISP with President Hichilema acknowledging that the programme was not implemented well this season.

“Zambia will be much worse than in 2022 and I can give you reasons as to why. Our crop production will be very bad in this country. Going by the FISP programme that was mishandled. By now if it was those tough Presidents, the man under the Ministry of Agriculture (Reuben Mtolo Phiri) could have lost his job because first and foremost the Zambian people had complained over the manner in which they were procuring fertiliser. They floated tenders for fertiliser procurement but cancelled them but engaged other people and bought the fertiliser at a much higher price. Fertiliser under the PF was $1000 per tonne. In the 2021 season they went and bought fertiliser at $1,400 per tonne and continued rising these figures and we were also being told to say they have saved $3,000,000 under the FISP programme. How possible is that? Because they have bought fertiliser at a much higher price. Yes they have saved because they did not give fertiliser to all beneficiaries . They reduced the number of beneficiaries. Is that something they can be proud of and say they have managed to save money? You punish people and then go in public to say we have saved money,” Mr. Chungu said.

Why it’s difficult for us to create wealth- Dr Lubinda Haabazoka

By Dr Lubinda Haabazoka

Why it’s difficult for us to create wealth

I have written a lot of articles on why it’s difficult to create wealth in Zambia and if ever we shall produce the first billionaire. I think it’s very important that we continue talking about this topic because it pains to see us struggle when other people are doing really good.

The following are the things we should take note and improve on:

– In Zambia we frown upon wealth. We seem to be allergic to rich people. Trust me, the fact that one is poor doesn’t guarantee that you will be in heaven! The parable in the bible about talents simply teaches that God wants us to live a rich life. The first barrier to creating wealth is to understand that being poor is very not healthy!

– Wealth doesn’t come by luck! It’s very rare that one is rich by luck! You need to put in the hard work! History has confirmed that those that have won lotteries have blown their money in a short period! So wealth comes as a result of hard work!

– Laziness. Am sorry colleagues but in Zambia we are very lazy! We don’t want to work hard for the money! We think money will simply flow like rain. To be rich, one needs to multitask and do away with habits like watching soccer all week when friends are busy hustling. If you ask businessmen and women, they put in more effort than even ordinary employees! Once your day should ends at 01:00 and begins at 06:00, just know that you are now working!

– Jealous. It’s very difficult to succeed in our society because the levels of jealous is super high! The mistake we made was during primary when people would pass number 1 or 2 and pupils were grouped from group 1 to group 3 depending on performance. This has really damaged our thinking to a level where we think one’s success can hinder our own success since there can only be 1 number 1. Our jealous is so escalated that we kill other people’s businesses sometimes even without knowing that we are doing bad! Let’s change our hearts!

– Patience. Zambians have no patience. We think that a business can generate money overnight. It can even take 10 years to build an empire! An average business won’t give you money in the first three years. Many of us quit immediately! I have observed how a company on the Copperbelt called Z-Mart has grown. That takes a lot of patience and hard work. Amongst the black Zambians, such is very rare to find.

– Partnerships. it’s very difficult to do partnerships in Zambia because we are very suspicious of each other! Your friend buys a car immediately you think it’s from stolen money or it’s from your mutual business. You forget that when you were watching football, your friend was busy working!

– Handouts. In Zambia we believe in handouts. No one can give you money that will propel you into richness! Not even a salary can make you rich. A salary is a source of capital for your business! If you have no ambitions of joining the top 1%, please work and do your thing. That’s also ok.

– Taxes. Zambia has since the 90s experienced high economic and administrative barriers to doing business. It’s very difficult in Zambia to do busy whilst complying with all rules!!! Government should get a single licensor for everything. You can’t take 5 different cheques every month to various government departments when the same money benefits one government. If government can’t trust itself, what about citizens?

– Focus. Zambians no longer have focus. Over the weekend vloggers we’re arguing about the size of the behinds 10,000 comments. An article about wealth creation 5 comments. You are essentially what you spend time on. If you spend time on social media drama, you will never progress! Use socio media to educate others or to advertise your produce.

– Remember just because you are struggling today doesn’t mean you will be rich in the future.

– Self pity. Avoid feeling pity for yourself. The fact that you were born and orphan or not from a well to do family doesn’t mean than you can’t make it. First education equalises then the rest is up to you! If you have no education, you even have a higher chance of succeeding because you will be more of a risk taker. Educated people have too much information that make them risk averse and as such they are comfortable just in jobs!!!

– Also remember that Zambians are good at complaining and hiding their true financial status. It’s not everyone who is broke. You will be shocked the kind of high lives people live in Zambia. Such people never even post this on socio media!!! So ran your race and create your own wealth. Don’t be comfortable that everyone is broke!

Thanks 😊

Current load-shedding is not drought or weather induced, it’s economical

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

We should be very clear. The current load-shedding is just an economic decision and management issue and has nothing to do with the current weather pattern or drought.

Water levels in Kariba Lake are known and anticipated in advance hence the Zambia River Authority (ZRA) determining and allocating the amount of water usage to each power station per year to ZESCO and Zimbabwe Power Company.

The maintainance schedule for Independent Power Producers like Maamba Collieries Power Station is submitted in advance and period of maintainance is well-known to ZESCO for planning purposes.

This load-shedding has nothing to do with drought or weather factors. Zambia last experienced drought in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

2021 and 2022 have not been affected by any drought. We had bumper crops across the country during the same period and seasonal rainfall was above normal. The weather focus for 2023 remains that Zambia will not experience drought.

The annual rainfall in Zambia averages between 700 mm in the south and 1,400 mm in the north. Check the graph attached which shows that Zambia has received above normal rainfall in 2021 and 2022.

On 23rd December, 2022 Energy Regulation Board announced approval of fresh power exports to Namibia (180 megawatts), Zimbabwe (100 megawatts) and Bostwana (70 megawatts).

This followed signed agreements between ZESCO and regional power utilities made in April 2022 to export the excess power of 1,100 megawatts.

This is in addition to traditional power exports made to Malawi, Tanzania, DRC and the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP).

We must be very clear again that Kariba Dam is no longer a big factor as the country is producing sufficient power from other power stations.

Zambia’s peak demand is 2,300 megawatts. Installed capacity is 3,456 megawatts. Power Exports is over 440 to 1,100 megawatts.

The current water levels in Kariba was induced by management’s decision to uprate the machines at Kariba North Bank and Kariba North Extension, despite the allocated water levels to meet urgent power exports…a poor planning activity.

And the newly constituted taskforce to look at energy inneficiency is such a disappointment. You mean they spent the whole weekend planning and visiting power stations only to come up with a puzzle wether 6+6 is equal to 12 or 6!

We must state that the current load-shedding is a result of poor management, poor planning and insatiable appetite to raise money even at the expense of the welfare of citizens.

Stop load-shedding.

Stop exports.

Zambia has enough power.

HAIMBE IS RIGHT THAT WE WILL BOUNCE BACK IN 2026 – PF

HAIMBE IS RIGHT THAT WE WILL BOUNCE BACK IN 2026 – PF

….except his fears are unfounded!

Lusaka, Monday, January 9, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

JUSTICE Minister Mulambo Haimbe has claimed that should the Patriotic Front (PF) bounce back into power in 2026, there is a possibility that the death penalty law would be brought back into the Statute books.

Hon Haimbe believes there is a possibility that the PF could reclaim the leadership of the country but is worried that the death penalty which he claims to be abolished could be brought back.

Meanwhile, the PF has stated that Haimbe’s fears are unfounded because the same law which he claims to be abolished still exist in part 3 of the Constitution and can only be amended by way of a referendum as was proposed by the former ruling party.

PF Chairperson for Information and Publicity Hon Raphael Nakacinda says Haimbe is however accurate when he acknowledges that the PF will bounce back in 2026.

“Mr Haimbe, whilst he is accurate in his submission that PF will bounce back in 2026, his fears are unfounded, suggesting that PF will come reverse some of these amendments that were made. First of all, it must be understood that there is nothing to reverse because there is nothing they have achieved,” he said.

“The death penalty is still on the statutes. The only way we can amend and remove the death penalty is by way of referendum, which referendum we had proposed as Patriotic Front because we understood that the only way to enhance human rights is by way of amending Part 3 of the Constitution and that amendment comes by way of a referendum.”

Hon Nakacinda lectured the Justice Minister that an Amendment of a subsidiary law amounts really to having done nothing because in the Republican Constitution, the death penalty still remains.

He reminded the UPND that they are the ones who shot down the referendum that was proposed by the PF to iron out the issue in question.

“We can only ask the UPND not to worry, the brutality they have subjected PF members to, the tribalism they have introduced in this country, the Partisan consideration, whether it is those who are in office as civil servants working in government, they are being victimized to be PF, that attitude will not be tolerated under a rebranded Patriotic Front,” he said.

“When we come back in power in 2026, we are going to carry through all the positive things that will have achieved if there will be any. We will not victimize any Zambian on the basis of their affiliation. For us, our approach will be anchored on the principle of One Zambia One Nation.”

And Nakacinda assured Haimbe that the PF will come back into government with a totally different approach.

“PF, and all those that either sympathize or belong to other political parties will be looked at first of all as Zambians before we start considering partisan issues,” he said.

“We are coming back into government with a totally different approach, patriotism will be the anchor word, nationalism will be the anchor word and national unity will be the anchor word and prosperity is what we will be aiming for.”

It is very difficult to trust Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s word. You can’t count on it- Fred M’membe

It is very difficult to trust Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s word. You can’t count on it.

He has promised so many things, from cheaper prices for fertiliser, mealie meal and fuel to ending electricity load shedding, and he has not delivered on any of them.

Mr Hichilema doesn’t take ownership of his failures or mistakes. He boasts, brags and postures all the time.

He doesn’t live by the same standards he expects from others, and he is very likely to end up as Zambia’s most corrupt President, who uses all sorts of fronts to hide his business dealings etc. He doesn’t seem to believe in transparency.

Mr Hichilema doesn’t stand for what is right but rather, what is convenient. He is a shameless opportunist and that is why today he is caught up in so many contradictions. He is being caught in his web of lies every day. People of integrity don’t live this way.

This is definitely not the sort of leadership Zambians expected from him – they have been shortchanged.

WE NEVER PROCURED LEAKED CONDOMS WHEN I WAS HEALTH MINISTER – Dr Chitalu Chilufya

…. Reveals that the HoneyBee scam is a creation of tenderpreneures, individuals who were so scared of the legacy that was created in the health sector

Lusaka—Monday January 9th 2023

Smart Eagles

The HoneyBee scam is a creation of individuals and tenderpreneures who were so scared of the legacy we created in the Ministry of health, PF Presidential Candidate Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has said.

The former Health Minister revealed that the “HoneyBee” lie was a scam of the century adding that the President Edgar Lungu led administration never procured leaked condoms and expired drugs.

Dr. Chilufya who is also Mansa Central lawmaker warned that science should not be sacrificed for political expedience.

He said this when he featured on Diamond TV’s “COSTA” last night.

“So I want to put the record straight. Zambia’s procurement system can never allow the procurement of expired drugs. I challenge you Costa today to show me evidence now of any drugs that were procured and were expired. Check in any regulatory institutions and I tell you that you will find none,” he said.

“Local and external, no expired drugs… bring on the table here evidence from the WHO accredited laboratory of any evidence of leaking condoms. And I will tell you that there have been none. So these are the politics that we need to detoxify in this country. Let’s not sacrifice science at the altar of politics, just for political expedience. And the media has a critical role to play.”

Dr Chilufya said the procurement in question was done to ensure that there was no stock out of medicines in the country.

He stressed the need for those still alleging that the drugs in question were expired to put evidence on the table.

The lawmaker detested the screaming of defamatory statements in the HoneyBee scam without attaching evidence to the matter.

“I will tell you that if you analyze all the events that led to that procurement, you will only conclude that government worked to avoid a stock out of medicines. That is similar to what we are seeing today. What we are seeing today, which is a very grave situation, stock out of medicines in all public health facilities is a recipe for increased mortality deaths of Zambia,” he said.

“I will not accept that we use the HoneyBee scam as a decoy in the current mismanagement of the health sector. It’s important that if we claim that these drugs were expired, we put evidence on the table. We cannot just scream defamatory statements without backing evidence. And I want to emphasize this, there was no procurement leaking condoms and expired drugs under the ministry of health in my time as minister of health or under the PF cabinet.”

About Wrongful Convictions: A Case Of Katele Kalumba, Stella Chibanda, Faustine Kabwe And Aaron Chungu- Sean Tembo

0

PART 3: QUALITY OF THE SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. According to paragraph 5.1 of the Supreme Court judgment, Faustine Kabwe and Aaron Chungu, who were the 3rd and 4th accused respectively in this matter, were convicted on two counts under section 29(2) of the Anti Corruption Act No. 46 of 1996. In upholding these convictions, the Supreme Court restated the evidence against the accused persons in paragraph 8.1 to 8.5 of the judgement. Out of interest, l decided to look at the exact wording of section 29(2) and cross-reference it to the evidence aduced against the accused persons and see whether the evidence as presented is sufficient to sustain a criminal conviction.

2. Section 29(2) of the Anti Corruption Act No. 46 of 1996 states as follows; “any person who by himself, or by or in conjunction with any other person, CORRUPTLY GIVES, promises or offers any gratification to any public officer, whether for the benefit of any public officer or of any other public officer, as an inducement or reward for doing or forbearing to do, anything in relation to any matter or transaction, actual or proposed with which any public body is or may be concerned, shall be guilty of an offence”. Please note above that the capitalization of the term “CORRUPTLY GIVES” is entirely mine and is for emphasis only, as it will form the basis of my arguments below.
3. Now, when you GIVE something to someone, it means that you are transferring ownership of that thing from yourself to the other person. If l give you K1,000 it means that l have transfered ownership of that K1,000 from myself to you. If l go to a mobile money booth and l give K1,000 to the mobile money agent so that he can send that K1,000 to your mobile money account, it is me who has given you the K1,000 and not the mobile money agent. The mobile money agent has merely facilitated the transaction. In other words, you cannot GIVE something that you do not own. The mobile money agent cannot be said to have given you K1,000 because he did not own the K1,000. I owned the K1,000 so l am the one who has given it to you, using the mobile money agent as a facilitator.

4. Therefore, in the context of section 29 (2) of the Anti Corruption Act No 46 of 1996, a person cannot be found guilty of corruptly giving gratification to a public officer if that gratification did not belong to that person and the person was merely acting as a legitimate and bonafide facilitator. In other words, if l go to a mobile money agent and send a bribe of K1,000 to a Police Officer, it is me the owner of the K1,000 bribe that would have committed an offence under section 29(2) and not the mobile money agent.

5. In the case of Faustine Kabwe and Aaron Chungu, according to paragraph 8.1 to 8.5 of the Supreme Court judgement, the Court says they used their company; Access Financial Services Limited to pay for Professor Mweene’s cottage in the first count, and to pay for Stella Chibanda’s farm in the second count. However, the Court acknowledges in the last sentence under paragraph 8.2, page J18 of the judgement that the payments were made from funds belonging to the Zambia Security Intelligence Services (ZSIS). The Court further acknowledges in it’s judgement that Faustine Kabwe and Aaron Chungu’s company; Access Financial Services Limited was a duly registered financial institution under the Bank of Zambia (BOZ) and that the Zambia Security Intelligence Services was it’s client. Access Financial Services Limited executed payment instructions from ZSIS from time to time, as any financial institution would do with regard to it’s clients.

6. Under the circumstances above, it is my considered view that the evidence against Faustine Kabwe and Aaron Chungu was not sufficient to support a conviction under section 29 (2) of the Anti Corruption Act No 46 of 1996. Convicting the two individuals is the equivalent of convicting a mobile money agent for sending a money on behalf of a cleint. Money which is later established to be a bribe. A mobile money agent is in the business of sending money, and it is not his business to investigate the purpose for the money being sent. Just like Access Financial Services Limited was in the business of executing payment instructions on behalf of clients, provided such instructions are duly authorized.

7. The question then is why did the Supreme Court issue such a flawed judgement? The answer partially lies in the composition of the bench. It is my considered view that two of the three justices should not have been part of the panel that considered this matter because they were fundamentally conflicted. Justice Chinyama convicted two of the appellants when he was still a Magistrate and Chief Justice Mumba Malila prosecuted this matter in the London High Court when he has still Attorney General. Therefore, for reasons stated above, the two justices could not have possibly adjudicated this matter fairly and objectively.

8. As a matter of fact, when you critically analyze this Supreme Court judgement, you will realize that there is a concerted effort to unduly assign culpability on the accused persons. For example, paragraph 18.13 on page J55 of the judgement says “Additionally, if the 1st Appellant truly got a loan, and genuinely bought the farm, and she was remitting the money to AFSL, there would have been no need to mask her ownership under the company name”. Really your Honors??? Since when did buying a property under a company name amount to masking your identity and constitute evidence of corruption? As a matter of fact, all my properties except for one, are under company names. I also encourage my clients to purchase properties under a company name because they’re certain tax incentives that you enjoy under a company which you cannot enjoy as an individual.

9. If you are going to send people to prison for five years with hard labor, then at least do it on a sound basis. You cannot deprive people of their liberties and your only evidence of wrongdoing is that the person bought a property under a company name instead of their individual name? And to think that such a shallow judgement is coming from the highest Court in the land; the Supreme Court, really sends shivers down my spine.

10. In the premises above, it is my humble submission that President Hakainde Hichilema should consider pardoning the four convicted persons; Katele Kalumba, Faustine Kabwe, Aaron Chungu and Stella Chibanda. There is no sound evidence to sustain their conviction and continued incarceration. The reason l insist that people must be treated in a just, fair and equitable manner is because when our turn comes, we too would want to be treated in a just, fair and equitable manner. In Eastern Province we say; “chaona mzako chapita, mawa chili pa iwe”.

HH SAYS HE IS NOT PLEASED WITH HOW ZAMBEZI RIVER AUTHORITY IS MANAGING KARIBA DAM

HH SAYS HE IS NOT PLEASED WITH HOW ZAMBEZI RIVER AUTHORITY IS MANAGING KARIBA DAM

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says he is not pleased with the manner the Zambezi River Authority-ZRA- is managing the Kariba Dam which is shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe.

President HICHILEMA says technology exists which can predict weather conditions and prepare stakeholders of any imminent situations that may affect things like power generation.

He says ZRA should up its game and ensure that it provides consistent and accurate information to both countries on the status of the Dam and the Zambezi River.

The President says he will call his Zimbabwean counterpart EMMERSON MUNANGAGWA to engage him on the matter.

President HICHILEMA says old guidelines affecting the effective operations of ZRA should be amended.

The President has also called for speedy completion of repair works at the Dam’s plunge pool.

He says if the works are not done in good time and the Dam collapses, about 3- point- 5 million people downstream risk losing their lives due to floods which can be caused by the runoff water.

President HICHILEMA said this in Siavonga when he met officials from Zesco and Zambezi River Authority.

After the meeting, the President undertook an on the spot check of the water levels and the condition of the Dam.

Meanwhile, Zesco has disclosed that it is now only generating 2-hundred and -50 Mega Watts of power at the Kariba North Bank Power Plant.

Zesco Director Power Generation WESLEY LWIINDI says this is out of an installed generation capacity of 1-thousand and -80 Mega Watts of Power.

Mr. LWIINDI says the power plant is only using 2-generators which are also not running at full capacity.

He says this is out of 6-generator units which have a capacity to produce 1-hundred and -80 Mega Watts of electricity each.

And ZRA Chief Executive Officer MUNYARADZI MUNODAWAFA says the energy situation is likely to get better at the end of January or mid February once the good rainfall pattern being experienced at the source of the Zambezi River in North Western Province cont
nues.

Extradition of ‘El Chapo’ son to the US halted after 29 killed in arrest operation

By Elizabeth Plaza, Kiarinna Parisi, Mitchell McCluskey and Tara John, CNN

A Mexico City federal judge halted the extradition of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán’s son, alleged drug cartel leader Ovidio Guzmán, to the United States on Friday, a day after he was arrested in an intense operation in northern Mexico that led to the deaths of 29 people.

The US is seeking Guzmán’s extradition for drug trafficking and has offered up to $5 million for information leading to the capture of the man they say is “a senior member of the Sinaloa Cartel.”

On Thursday, Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard confirmed that there is an arrest warrant in the US dated September 19, 2019, but said the possible extradition of Guzmán would not be immediate due to the formalities of the law. He also stated that Guzmán has ongoing legal proceedings in Mexico.

According to the Televisa network and other Mexican media, another federal judge later ordered Guzmán to stay in 60 days of preventive detention for the purpose of extradition after a hearing at the Altiplano maximum security federal prison where he is being held.

CNN has requested a response from Guzmán’s defense but has not yet heard back.

Guzmán’s father, “El Chapo,” had escaped from Altiplano prison on July 11, 2015 through a mile-long tunnel that featured a motorcycle on tracks. He was later captured and convicted in the US four years later of 10 counts, including engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, drug trafficking and firearms charges. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years and ordered to pay $12.6 billion in forfeiture.

Ovidio Guzmán was previously arrested by federal authorities in October 2019, but was released on the orders of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to avoid further bloodshed.

His latest arrest comes days before US President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visit Mexico City to attend the North American Leaders Summit.

Capturing Guzmán could be a way for López Obrador to show the US that he is “in control of the armed forces and Mexico’s security situation,” Gladys McCormick, a associate professor at Syracuse University who focuses on Mexico-US relations, told CNN in an email.

“It also defuses the power behind any ask from the Biden administration to stem the tide of fentanyl and other narcotics across the border,” she added.

At a news conference Friday, López Obrador denied that Guzmán’s arrest was linked to Biden’s arrival, saying Mexican authorities had acted autonomously.

“About interpretations, there are a lot of them, we do not share them, we acted with autonomy,” the Mexican President said.

Violent aftermath

After Guzmán’s arrest in Culiacán on Thursday, chaos erupted in the city. The authorities asked citizens to seek refuge due to clashes in several areas.

His arrest was the result of a lengthy operation which involved 200 special forces, Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval said Friday. Local officials urged citizens to shelter at home amid clashes with cartel members in various parts of the city.

At least 19 suspected gang members and 10 military personnel died during violent clashes in the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa, after authorities arrested Guzmán, along with 21 others. No civilian deaths or injuries were reported.

Security at Altiplano prison has been increased since Guzmán was detained, the minister added.

The President said later on Friday that the city was calmer and officials were working to clear the roads.

“In Culiacán, we opened all the blocked roads and we are working on removing the vehicles that are alongside the streets,”López Obrador said.

The state of Sinaloa, where Culiacán is located, is home to one of the world’s most powerful narcotics trafficking organizations, the Sinaloa Cartel, of which “El Chapo” was the leader.

The US State Department wrote that law enforcement investigations indicated that Guzmán and his brother, Joaquín Guzmán-López, “inherited a great deal of the narcotics proceeds” following the death of another brother, Edgar Guzmán-López.

They “began investing large amounts of the cash into the purchasing of marijuana in Mexico and cocaine in Colombia. They also began purchasing large amounts of ephedrine from Argentina and arranged for the smuggling of the product into Mexico as they began to experiment with methamphetamine production,” the State Department said.

The brothers are also alleged to oversee an estimated 11 “methamphetamine labs in the state of Sinaloa,” the State Department says.

President Hichilema Directs ZESCO To Split 12 Hours Load Shedding Into Six-hourly Schedule

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA DIRECTS ZESCO TO SPLIT 12 HOURS LOAD SHEDDING INTO SIX-HOURLY SCHEDULE

January 8th, 2022

Republican President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has directed the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) to consider splitting the 12 hours of load shedding per area into a six-hourly schedule, so that they can maintain their operations.

President Hichilema says splitting the 12 hours of load shedding per area into a six-hourly schedule will also help mitigate the impact on small businesses.

“In order to mitigate the impact on small businesses, we have directed ZESCO to consider splitting the 12 hours of load shedding per area into a six-hourly schedule, so that they can maintain their operations”.

Speaking today when he undertook site visits to Maamba Collieries and Kariba ZESCO power plants to fully appreciate the extent of the country’s electricity generation capacities which have subsequently led to load shedding, President Hichilema said it is imperative to protect small businesses.

At Maamba Power station, President Hichilema
urged management to speed up the maintenance processes so that they can resume normal operations within the shortest possible time. The President advised management at the power station to consider carrying out maintenance works in a manner that do not impede normal power generation on the national grid.

At Kariba Dam, President Hichilema expressed concern on how the systems and processes have been neglected to the point where there was no proper monitoring, evaluation, and sharing, of critical information by different stakeholders at the right time.

Since Kariba Dam is a shared asset between Zambia and Zimbabwe, run by the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA), President Hichilema said government would engage their counterpart in Zimbabwe to ensure optimization and effective use of the reservoir.

President Hichilema said the New Dawn Government will not shy away from taking responsibility where challenges are being faced, as that is key to addressing them.

The 2021-2026 UPND Party Manifesto on energy clearly seeks to minimize transmission and distribution losses and enhance the overall reliability of the electricity network.

Its like New York Cosmos signing Pele, says Ronaldo’s new coach

0

Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club coach Rudi Garcia on Sunday compared the Portuguese star’s arrival at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia to Pele’s signing with the New York Cosmos in 1975.

“It’s a bit like Pele’s arrival” in what was then the North American Soccer League, Garcia told AFP.

“Especially for the development of football, sport and culture in Saudi Arabia.”

At 34, Pele came out of partial retirement to spark an explosion of interest in football in the United States. Ronaldo, at 37, is coming out of a bitter divorce with Manchester United.

“It’s great. Great for us, for Al-Nassr. Great for Saudi Arabia,” said Frenchman Garcia. “Cristiano Ronaldo is more than a player. He is one of the best players in the world.”

Garcia was speaking on a visit the Riyadh bivouac of the Dakar Rally which is being held in Saudi Arabia and, like Ronaldo’s high-priced signing, has drawn criticism that the country’s leaders are “sportswashing”, or trying to deflect attention from the kingdom’s human rights record.

“For the development of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, it is very, very important,” said Garcia. “If today the Dakar is here, it brings home that in sports and cultural development a country can do a lot.”

“It’s amazing how much it’s put a spotlight on our club. Now everyone knows where our club is around the world,” said Garcia of Ronaldo’s off-field impact, particularly on social media.

“We must have gone from 800,000 (followers) to 10 million in a few hours, a few days, because of Cristiano’s arrival.”

Ronaldo signed a contract until 2025 with the Saudi club in a deal worth a reported 200 million euros.

Garcia said he was delighted with his new star.

“The greatest champions are the easiest to manage,” he said.

“He blended in with the squad. We saw him joking and laughing with pleasure with his new teammates. He was with us for the last game, even if he couldn’t play. He was in the locker room, riding his bike.”

– ‘Smile again’ –

Garcia said the club was respecting Ronaldo’s suspension for an incident with a fan at the end of his time in the Premier League and would not pick him for their next match, a top-of-the table encounter with Al-Shabab.

Instead, he said Ronaldo’s first Saudi appearance “will not be in a Al-Nassr jersey” but in a joint Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr team due to face Qatari-owned Paris Saint-Germain, and potentially Lionel Messi, in an exhibition game scheduled for January 19.

“As coach of Al-Nassr, I cannot be happy with this match,” said Garcia, a former manager of two of PSG’s great rivals Marseille and Lyon. “We have a league game three days later.”

Garcia said his first objective was to make Ronaldo happy.

“The only thing I wish for Ronaldo is that he finds the pleasure of playing and smiles again,” said Garcia.

“These last months between Manchester, the national team and then at the private level he has not had any easy moments. If he finds the pleasure of playing it will be a goal already achieved.”

Senegal bus crash kills 39: President Sall declares mourning period

0

Thirty-nine people were killed and more than 100 others injured when two buses crashed in a head-on collision overnight on an arterial road in Senegal’s central Kaffrine region, President Macky Sall told reporters Sunday.

Images of the incident showed the completely mangled front end of a white bus, with blood-flecked seats, personal items and a shoe strewn around the tree-lined crash site.

Road accidents are common in Senegal, largely because of driver error, poor roads and decrepit vehicles, say experts, but the latest disaster has caused one of the heaviest losses of life from a single incident in recent years.

Speaking to reporters, Sall corrected an earlier government statement that had put the death toll at 40, citing a miscount at the morgue.

He made the comments after visiting the crash site, on the No. 1 national highway just outside of the village of Sikilo, and speaking with some of the injured at the regional hospital in the nearby town of Kaffrine.

“We note with great pain and sadness the death of 39 people in this traffic accident near Kaffrine”, Sall said.

“We have lost many young people in this accident and tomorrow the Prime Minister will convene an interministerial council that will involve the world of transport — transporters, drivers, insurers, security services — to look at the measures to be taken”, he added.

The government has announced three days of national mourning beginning Monday, with flags to be flown at half-mast throughout the country.

Kaffrine mayor Abdoulaye Saydou Sow, who is also the Minister of Urbanism, said in a statement that the accident occurred between 2:00 and 3:00 am (GMT and local) Sunday and was caused by a burst tyre.

He said the Kaffrine morgue was “saturated” and that bodies were being sent to another morgue in Kaolack, a city 40 miles (65 km) away.

Public prosecutor, Cheikh Dieng, had previously said in a statement that early investigations suggested a public passenger bus suffered a burst tyre and swerved off course.

It then crashed “head-on with another bus coming in the opposite direction”, he said.

– ‘Tragic’ –

Sow said he and several other ministers had visited the injured in Kaffrine and Kaolack on Sunday.

The delegation included the Minister of Land Transport, Mansour Faye, Health Minister Marie Kermesse Ngom, and Minister of Territorial Equity and National Solidarity, Samba Ndiobene Ka, he said.

The president of the National Assembly, Amadou Mame Diop, said in a statement that he “and all the Members of Parliament share the grief of the entire Senegalese people” and commended “the rapid response of the emergency services”.

Opposition politician Ousmane Sonko announced on Twitter that he would postpone a scheduled fundraising program in light of the accident.

“We bow before the memory of the deceased, offer our very sincere condolences to their grieving loved ones and to all Senegalese and pray for the merciful rest of their souls as well as a speedy recovery for the injured”, he said.

France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on Sunday conveyed her condolences to her Senegalese counterpart, the French ministry said in a statement.

In October 2020, at least 16 people were killed and 15 more injured when a bus collided with a refrigerated lorry in western Senegal.

Local media said at the time that the truck was hauling fish to Dakar.

Go back to school you can do it.

By Hon. Princess Kasune Zulu

You know how l have shared of how l dropped in school in 11th grade as a teenager mother and married at 18years.
I still went back to school in 2005 and finished my grade 12. Came out with destinations in Zambia you could say 6 points! All because my friends Vanessa Church kept say Girl you go back to school. I was comfortable working for Worldvision in Chicago and the pay was looking great in dollars from the K1700 plus l was making in Zambia. I thought why go to school with also 50,000 US dollars per year. But l was wrong school broadens your scope and expands your horizons. In a way that you could not have otherwise.

With my grade 12 certificate, my former boss became mentor and big brother Dr. Mike Mantel former pastor Danke Hill and others. Pushed me to go to university. Wow ..,,, hold on l thought l am good people with salary going closer to 70,000 dollars per annual l thought l got this. But l was wrong. Once again l pushed myself. I love school but am a social butterfly. So the discipline of writing ✍️ research papers , citations, footnotes etc where a pain in the bottoms. But l did. Not once but once in 6years.

I first graduated with my masters in Christian Ministry 2014. By then pregnant . But l really wanted my degree from the school of business. So l had to continue until l graduated with Honors with Masters in Nonprofit Administration and Masters in Divinity. I continue to struggle with my doctorate. I want to encourage you, going back to school May never make you wise, but l can tell you. You will be wiser and more informated than you where. And opportunities will be much greater. Also usually not always you will appreciate people on merit than kuzibana along. Which has killed a lot of our efforts in developing countries.

I personally can appreciate more the President and NewDawn for free education. Because it remains the best equalizer in life. In most cases. So Go back to School, you can do it. And surround yourself with either people who are at school or have been. Otherwise can be hard especially in the beginning and your environment matters. Mostly who you surround yourself with.

You can do it!
Go Back to School!

Mutale Mwanza hookups young girls for K20,000 while herself charges K50,000 to hookup with her- Simon Mwewa Lane

GUYS I KNOW IT’S SUNDAY BUT…I’VE ALWAYS BEEN AWARE OF WHY MUTALE MWANZA CONSTANTLY WEARS SUN GLASSES.

One eye is higher than the other, so she feels conscious about her eyes…and while I do have a semi-accent, I actually lived in America for 7 years… but Mutale’s accent was born out of watching Dallas on ZNBC.

What’s the lesson guys? Don’t attempt to body shame a normal person when you have an unalterable facial defect. Plastic surgery can give a person a face lift [ not that she can afford it ]…but they can’t fix a skewed eye line, hence the sunglasses.

So let’s recap, Mutale didn’t buy an iPhone for K87,000. She’s not building any property anywhere, she’s simply advertising for the owner of the property…and that talent agency that she claims to run is actually a recruiting agency for high class call girls…she’s basically a MADAM.

Let’s dance girl…I love the music 🎶

Sarafina Calls Out Mutale Mwanza To A Boxing Match….but Mutale Mwanza Turns Offer Down For Fear Of Being Splashed With ‘amanshinsha’

SARAFINA CALLS OUT MUTALE MWANZA TO A BOXING MATCH….BUT M – NAY NAY TURNS OFFER DOWN FOR FEAR OF BEING SPLASHED WITH ‘AMANSHINSHA’

Do you know what AMANSHINSHA is?🤦

Zambian Socialite Mutale Mwanza has turned down a challenge to take part in a boxing match against her former friend and now rival, Sarafina Ntenga.

“Am challenging u ba 35 for a boxing match set a date we finish this once and for all” Sarafina posted on her Facebook page.

“I cannot fight you naiwe Kuti wansabusha amashinsha and I do NOT condone violence sorry. But I will have to decline your boxing offer,” Mwanza is quoted as saying in a letter she wrote in response.

Byta FM Journalist Brian Hantuba reports that the two were close friends who had a falling out which saw Mwanza have Ntenga detained in police custody for alleged criminal libel and cyber bullying.

“The wise thing to do is for you to apologize for all the lies you have told about me over the years. You know deep down your heart that you have been lying and you continue to lie for relevance. Please Stop it !!” Mwanza wrote.

“You have been living in bondage for nothing. I know you miss me dearly and life has not been the same for you without me. I understand. But You and i will never be cordial again & it may be in your best interest to release yourself from the torture you have inflicted upon yourself” She added.

Mwanza touches on the infamous jail stint Ntenga, remarking, “I have watched you drag me for months even after your short stint in the cells. Learn to LEARN from your mistakes”.

In the heated letter, Mwanza still finds room for sentiment, reminding her old friend “I showed you nothing but love, I opened up my home to you, I helped you”.

“Heal. Please Find healing. Find peace. I wish you well. God loves you. Cheers.” She wrote as she signed off.

“ Dear Sara,
I can not fight you naiwe Kuti wansabusha amashinsha 😊 & I do NOT condone violence sorry. But I will have to decline your boxing offer.

However, The wise thing to do is for you to apologize for all the lies you have told about me over the years. You know deep down your heart that you have been lying and you continue to lie for relevance. Please Stop it !!

You have been living in bondage for nothing. I know you miss me dearly and life has not been the same for you without me. I understand. But You and i will never be cordial again & it may be in your best interest to release yourself from the torture you have inflicted upon yourself.
I have watched you drag me for months even after your short stint in the cells. Learn to LEARN from your mistakes.

If I’m asked a question about you during an interview and I reply respectfully, don’t make videos about me telling lies to the masses. I will fight for my innocence and protect my brand at all Costs. My past association with you should not turn me into a fool just because I blocked you and I have refused to associate with you.

It’s okay to let go of a relationship. Find new associates. Get a new hobby. Being hateful and hurtful is really tired. Aren’t you supposed to be a comedian? Focus on that. Surely your brand can’t evolve around shading me. It’s tired.
Aren’t you tired ? Okay personally I’m tired on your behalf & now I just pity you. I feel sorry for you.

Find your own identity and build yourself around what you’re good at. We are all good at something. Focus on your strengths.
I have never publicly disclosed a single thing about why I blocked you. The least you can do is respect yourself and behave properly. Up until today, I have been mature about your lies & betrayal, I am in your past my lady. Let it go.

I showed you nothing but love, I opened up my home to you, I helped you ( you are not established sarafina, stop being ungrateful) YOU messed things up for yourself. I was trying to be a kopala sister to you. But what did you do ?

When the lights go out and you’re left all alone without the facebook likes and cheer, you know the truth and I know it hurts you.
You messed up and things can never be the same again between us. I hold nothing against you and I seldom think of you. I advise that you erase me from your memory too. There’s nothing to hold on to my dear. Having a bad heart and being ungrateful will take you nowhere. I hold nothing against you and I hope you make it in life. I’m in a good place and things are Working out great for me. May God bless you with abundant success so that you stop hating me for mine. 🙏🏾

BFLOW vs CHELLAH TUKUTA.
Mozishian vs Cadre 🙄.

Unfortunately I stand with Chellah Tukuta. I may not be a fan of his way of doing things but on this Logic fight vs Political fight Chellah Tukuta takes the day. Bflow is a coward 🙄🙄.

You don’t approach a logic discussion with political gloves and when you are bruised by political response you threaten to sue. Bflow should be a man enough to either switch to a logic discussion over loadshedding or put on his political attire and face the cadre in the arena game no courts. Some of us are also interested in this fight invited or not we are coming in to support Chellah Tukuta.

Loadshedding is a complex matter that requires logical approach because the UPND government under HH is making long term investment that will benefit everyone. Bflow is one person I know to be of sobber mindset and sound judgement on critical matters alas his level of ignorance towards loadshedding something he is aware of for a long time has alarmed me badly.

It will hurt small scale businesses such as Barber men, saloons or restaurants yes but thats how it is certain painful decisions have to be made for the bigger picture. Those who want electricity simply because they want to watch Manchester United vs Newcasttle should please sit down and keep quiet.

Dear Bflow even if we put you and your Obama you will still need logic sense to think before acting. Sometimes stay in your lanes mwebantu not everything is worthy embarrasing yourself on. Me who has an idea what is going on, am in this engineering field, I have fought this monster called Loadshedding at an academic level not political check my records I know whats going on am failing to speak because am proud HH is on the right track doing the best compared to other past presidents with regards to loadshedding. So who is Bflow trying to impress here with his political rhetorics? Put on political gloves and attire my dear we face you head on don’t be a coward running to court. You started this fight have guts to finish it.🙄. Chellah is a cadre as you put it knowing that background should give you an idea what to expect when you go political on issues that are non political. So bring it on tag me as well we finish you.

I OFFER K100, 000 TO ANYONE THAT CAN TESTIFY THAT MR JAMES NDAMBO HAS EVER MET ECL.
Injustice on one Zambian is Injustice on all Zambians.

By Miles B. Sampa, MP (06.01.2023)

Friday 6th January 2023 marked the end of my first sensitization tour of Southern Province aimed to greet friends and relatives ahead of the PF general conference in March this year. I did get to post a few messages during my tour of the province, but it is imperative that I make a summary of my experiences.

The purpose of my tour was however somewhat overshadowed by MHT matters because many people in the entire province randomly approached me stating that they are angry at the handling of the organization by those in power in the wake of the July 2022 beauty pageant. Both members and sympathizers claim MHT was in existence predating the formation of UPND. They are wondering why UPND should consider themselves as the only righteous political party to be the first ever to see wrongs in the MHT movement. Upon acquiring power to govern the nation last year, suddenly the UPND got lenses to see wrongs in the MHT members and its activities and yet when they were in opposition, they mingled freely with the same people and their events.

Real or imagined, there is a groundswell of anger among many citizens over the mistreatment of the MHT and its leaders. This anger is not only confined to Southern Province alone but all the others 9 provinces of Zambia. In fact, many people spoken to feel that they let the organization down by standing aside and letting Government wantonly do as it pleased against MHT. It was not until concerned citizens mainly from Lusaka, Copperbelt and Northern provinces came out guns blazing via social media in support of MHT than now the owners in Southern province have also started to voice out.

It has now dawned solidly on all MHT members in Southern Province that being the direct beneficiaries, they should have been in the fore front of defending the truth that they know about their organization. They are best to testify that MHT has never been a political movement and interacted with all citizens regardless of their personal political affiliations be it belonging to the ruling or opposition parties. MHT is apolitical and only interested in activities that helps the well-being of communities.

Meantime the Police in Choma are unable to attend to criminal cases like murder and armed robberies due to lack of adequate transport when Four (4) vehicles MHT donated to them in July last year are parked at a private farm rejected loudly by the UPND government. This is under the suspicion that there is PF involvement in MHT activities simply because Hon Tasila Lungu and two other longtime friends of the organization attended the beauty pageant in Choma last year.

I do know that years back Hon Tasila was approached by MHT to extend her USA Charity shoes donations to Southern Province as it had been excluded prior to that. Consequently and following the MHA plea, she did infact donate hundreds of shoes from her USA charity contacts. Was it logical to expect MHT to dump their ubuntu affiliation with her simply because her father and party she belongs to had lost power?
In any case, at the event she and her husband sat in the back of the audience with ordinary guests while all front rows were reserved by MHT for the UPND ministers and officials as would be expected of honoring the Government of the day.

Surprisingly however and while the UPND have rejected the MHT vehicles donation to the police in Choma, the same people are busy cruising their vehicles on the roads constructed and well-lit by MHT.
“” If ever the term ‘Double Standards’ was a political party. “”

I as a former Southern Province minister in the Sata administration, I can also attest to the fact that we understood the MHT organization as being a partner with government in community development. Other than the MHT, as Minister I reached out to all be it those closely linked (real or perceived) to the then opposition UPND but all in the spirit of development for ordinary majority in the province. I freely interacted with likes of Chief Mukuni much to the annoyance of my then PS madam Inutu Suba who would have other programmes set for me at the times would meet the Chief. Others claimed the Chief was a business associate in the Royal Livingstone hotel and as a PF provincial Minister it was wrong for me to host him in my ministerial office then located in Livingstone. I understood very well ‘fatherly’ roles of my office need to be non partisan in dealing with all people of the province. I actually reciprocated his visit with my own to his palace.

Childish allegations therefore against the MHT founder and accomplished international businessman Mr James Ndambo that he was a supporter of PF are so shameful. More so with this claim coming from people who have known the founder for as long as MHT has existed. They have actually know him before they even joined politics and that his businesses was progressing constantly through the terms of all previous Presidents namely KK, FTJ, LPM, RB, MCS & ECL.

The allegation against MHT and Mr James Ndambo are so shameful to the extent that inspite of my limited campaign resources, Iam prepared to put at stake a K100,000 for anyone who can disagree with this article and prove to me with evidence that the founder of MHT Mr James Ndambo has ever met former PF & former Republican president ECL before, during and after his reign in office.

Upon arrival in Lusaka yesterday, I had a chance to interact with a young lady who recently graduated in London sponsored by MHT for 4 solid years and happens to be an ardent MHT member herself.
“So what did your MHT education sponsorship in London cover? “ I asked.
“Everything; tuition, books, accommodation, meals, air travel holidays back to Zambia twice a year, pocket money etc etc. “
she responded cheerfully.
She is busy trying to preserve the international image of the organization so that more students can benefit like she did.

It’s easy to deduce that several people in the current leadership also benefited from MHT via similar school fees relief programs, medical costs relief programs and funding of their small-scale businesses etc.
I will respect them for now and not mention their names. I might however choose name & shame them one day if they continue to deny in the Judas Iscariot fashion, their not so long ago links or financial support from MHT or Mr James Ndambo.

On my finished tour of Southern Province I also got to pick up that to demonstrate how ingenious the teachings of MHT ethos (self-reliance), a group of concerned youths have fund raised to hold a solidarity fellowship this weekend in Choma. I hope the police there won’t suddenly get to drive on the MHT tarmac roads to destabilize their event. Some people may have seen T-shirts marked “We still need my Hometown in Zambia” which are now selling like hot cakes in Lusaka and other places “ [photos inserted].

CONCLUSION
In God’s wisdom and in the event that the PF members and the Zambian people give me a chance to lead them, one of my first deliverables will be to entice MHT and any others who may have suffered a similar fate at the hands of our ‘people fixing government’,…back to where they left off and assist my administration in national community development agendas.

This would help the government stem off some of the heat that comes with social issues affecting the daily lives of many citizens. It’s a fallacy to think Government alone can do it all in uplifting lives of it’s citizens. World over, good governments create an enabling environment for both business and NGO communities so they in turn help the leadership meet their manifestos and promises to citizens like creating jobs and empowerment.

One great lesson I have taken from this tour about MHT is that inspite of all the noise, positive or negative talks and writes ups about the MHT founder James Ndambo, he and his Ubuntu NGO have remained calm and resolute on their cause. Despite all their activities being on ice in Zambia, they still running but focused in other African countries where they are being embraced with both arms. Last month MHT was officially launched at a colorful ceremony in Ghana and I am aware some ordinary citizens in Zimbabwe are making efforts to locate Mr Ndambo so he can launch MHT in their country as well.

I cannot imagine one of our own undergoing the humiliating unnecessary Investigations instituted around his name and his private businesses both here at home and engineered abroad. We are aware that a deliberate campaign was instituted using official institutions to bring Mr James Ndambo down to his knees financially overseas. Inspite of all this, he however has made no comment and if that doesn’t get the leadership thinking, then they better think again particulary if these desperate harsh measures against him fail to bring him down to his knees financially as eagerly anticipated. It’s a wrongly calculated scheme by his perpetrators.

I am simply defending what’s right and it’s my nature to do so be it for the likes of Mr James Ndambo or another ordinary resident of Navutika compound in Chipata Eastern province where I am off to for my next leg of visiting friends & relatives. Zikomo 🙏🏾

EXPERT TIPS GOVT ON RESOLVING ENERGY CRISIS

____as he says the biggest bottlenecks Zambians face is the non cost reflective tariff in the country

8th January, 2023

By Hermity Hachilonde

AN Energy Expert, Johnston Chikwanda says Zambia continues to face an energy crisis because of the non cost reflective tariff in the energy sector.

And Mr. Chikwanda says successive Governments have ignored expert evidence on the challenges in the energy sector hence the continued deficit of energy in the country.

Contributing to the ongoing debate on load-shedding, Dr. Chikwanda said the solution for the current energy crisis lies in addressing the tariff equation.

He says as opposed to focusing on solar energy, the energy crisis could be addressed by cleaner thermal energy using coal.

Zambia has traditionally been reliant on hydroelectric power, but the Kariba dam has not been adequately maintained for decades, and variable rainfall in recent years often reduces the hydroelectric generation capacity.

And it would be prudent for you to know that Zambia is potentially self-sufficient in sources of electricity, coal, biomass and renewable energy.

The only energy source where the country is not self-sufficient is petroleum energy.

And Dr. Chikwanda who have sat on several Task Forces in Zambia on Energy including the 2017 ZESCO reforms reiterated that one of the issue that the GOVERNMENT of the Republic of Zambia did not act upon was to attain cost reflective tariff which he affirmed that it is at the nexus of the challenge in the country.

Dr. Chikwanda says experts further recommended that the single buyer model must be changed to multiple buyer model so that ZESCO Limited can be spared from being the only off taker of expensive Independent Power Producer -IPP- and that was ignored as well.

He revealed that experts suggested that it must be made easy for other players in the industry to access transmission lines saying when they are competing for a big client with ZESCO/Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC.zm) and if they want to use their transmission network challenge can arise.

Dr. Chikwanda says he has been part and parcel of formulating sector laws such as the electricity Act of 2019 and Energy Regulation Act of 2019 and input in the Rural Electrification Authority -REA- Bill.

The energy Expert says he has contributed alot of recommendations many of them quietly and others as part of teams and regrettably reports gather dust somewhere.

And the Energy Expert has warned that as long as this is not resolved, there is no Task Force that can solve challenges at hand in a significant way.

Dr. Chikwanda who could not hide the frustrations regarding energy crisis in Zambia stressed the need for those in leadership to face the public with reality if they don’t want to go through this ever again.

“A few years ago, ZDA recorded billions of dollars of investment pledges in the energy sector which could not be actualized because of the Tarriff. I hear there are again billions of investment pledges at ZDA for the energy sector. Until the tariff is ok these investments may not be actualized unless its to sell to Zesco who will in turn sell at a loss.”

“IPP power is very expensive because it is sold at actual price. IPPs have almost broken Zescos backbone with expensive power which is later sold at a loss.”

“To hit the nail on the head until we solve the tariff challenge at hand, we will be at this mountain for a while.”

“Like what Lucky said on this platform we have to pin our hopes not just on Hydro but on more thermal (coal). The western world just has to bear with us on coal. There is now cleaner coal technology. This solar thing to drive industrial development we still have some long time.” Dr. Chikwanda said.

HOLDING A BULL BY ITS HORN: HAKAINDE MUST FIX IT

HOLDING A BULL BY ITS HORN: HAKAINDE MUST FIX IT

The issue of low water levels cannot hold anymore, Hakainde Hichilema then in opposition said at the hight of a serious energy crisis, loadsheeding.

Hakainde then came out that he had solution to the problem in the absence of low water level at the generation point at Lake Kariba.

Zambians believed his story that the issue of low water level could no longer hold. That the issue was lack of leadership in PF which himself had.

He is today on the driving seat brought in to fix that which the previous administration failed.

The problem is still the same, low water levels at Kariba.

Hakainde and his team are not fixing what they promised. They have joined the same song, low water levels at the generating point.

This is serious about our political leadership in Zambia.

How are we going to take politicians serious? What is the current investment the UPND has put in energy to avert this problem?

As Head of State now on the driving seat, Hakainde has been entrusted with authority that he so much wanted “to fix the problems” Zambia has as he promised.

What is he doing to fix that which he promised?

Do we have a solution to this problem other than waiting for the rains to fill the Kariba dam? What has happened to the solution Hakainde had promised while in opposition?

Kapala the man at Energy whom the UPND Praise Singers are calling for his blood, that Hakainde must show the exit door has announced a reduction on the amount of power being exported to the neighbouring countries.

The Energy Minister has not stated the amount of reduction and what that will entail to the current loadsheeding the country is experiencing.

What is the meaning of this? Is this just one of those many stories, lies to deceive people? Why not being truthful and categorical?

The explanation by these people leaves more questions than answers. The Hichilema administration must avoid taking a path where people lose confidence in it’s government.

Apart from the so called Energy document that is being drafted by Experts, we have not been told what this Government, the New Dawn is doing to again end the loadsheeding we were told had been resolved in May 2022.

This is bringing in more distrust and hopelessness to a struggling population which thought had resolved their economic problems by sending the “thieves, Cadres” packing through an overwhelming election in 2021.

Zambians were looking for nothing but the solutions as promised. Something better than PF era. It is a betrayal that 14 months later we are being told about the PF being the cause of all our problems.

UPND, or Hakainde must do the correct thing, fix that which he promised would do or get back to the people apologize and tell them the complexity of the issues. Keeping quiet and hiding behind PF failures will not do.

To be honest, we at Zambian Eye don’t believe that Hakainde is a lair, a deceiver as it is coming out now. He may have his own weakness but he is not a crook. He may not have known the reality of running government and complexity involved. But now that he knows, he must come out and face the people.

Hakainde has only two years six months to deliver on his promises. Anything done in the last year will be counted as electioneering. The situation on the ground is not good Banene. Things so far done are not enough to save you in 2026. You have no time.

Comedy of Errors-Ukusensela ilyo kawa

In November 2022, the Zambezi River Authority informed both Zambia and Zimbabwe that Zimbabwe Power Company(ZPC) and ZESCO had utilized the allocated water for the year and the dam’s usable storage for power generation stood at only 4.6%.

So it became clearly inevitable that power generation at Kariba Dam will be adversely affected.

Zambia produces 1,080 megawatts at its North Bank Power Stations and ZImbabwe produces 1,050 megawatts at the South Bank Power Stations.

Knocking off so much power from our national capacity was going to adversely affect both our national use and our power exports.

Akabangilile, kaumine ipulu!

I wonder why at this stage in November 2022 Government did not;

1. Plan for immediate suspension of power exports.

2. Form a multi-task and multi-sectoral team to handle efficient use of power and associated issues.

3. Help plan for both independent power producers; Ndola Energy (110 megawatts) and Maamba Collieries (300 megawatts) that use heavy fuels and coal respectively, to help forestall the impending power deficit.

4. Engage citizens and walk with them on the inevitability of load-shedding schedule to be effected by December or January.

But by two weeks ago, at his Press conference held on 20th December, 2022, President Hakainde Hichilema was boasting and insisting that citizens would not be loadshedded and power exports would not be halted.

This is despite an earlier official announcement on 2nd December 2022, by his Minister of Energy, Hon. Peter Kapala to Parliament that ZESCO would begin six-hour load-shedding on 15th December 2022.

So the hasty decisions that were made on Friday and Saturday and the concerns around Maamba Collieries Power Station have come too late in the day.

Further a visit to Kariba Lake is not the solution. Kariba is not the only source of power generation.

Of the 3,456 installed capacity, Kariba Power Stations produces only 1,080 megawatts.

A stitch in time saves nine!

HH TURNS TO PRIVATE INVESTORS FOR ENERGY CRISIS SOLUTION

HH TURNS TO PRIVATE INVESTORS FOR ENERGY CRISIS SOLUTION

President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) says his administration will remove impediments that prevents private investors in Energy generation and supply.

Zambia is facing a serious energy crisis due to low water levels at the generating point in Lake Kariba which has resulted in 12 hours of power cuts everyday.

Hichilema in opposition had promised that he would fix the energy problem saying the low water level was just an excuse for the then PF administration.

14 months of his presidency, the problem is still there and no solution so far though in May 2022 he had told the Nation that he had fixed the energy power outage problem.

But it now looks the problem is far from being resolved as President Hichilema after a meeting with his Energy Taskforce this afternoon, he is talking of inviting the private sector.

This is what President Hichilema posted on his Facebook this evening monitored by Zambian Eye after their meeting today:

Fellow citizens,

We met with energy sector stakeholders this afternoon to discuss the issues surrounding load shedding, the Kariba Dam, and the water body’s unique problems. We acknowledged the fact that the dam is managed as a common resource owned by two countries and therefore its utilization is a bilateral matter that requires further harmonization.

The challenges of load shedding affords us an opportunity to provide a long term resolution to a matter that has dogged our country for 50 years. We acknowledge these problems and will not shy away from finding lasting solutions.

In the meeting we reiterated our view that independent power producers should come on board and that any law that impedes this process should be dealt with urgently.

We directed that ways be explored to cushion the impact of load shedding on small businesses, the farming community, millers, and ordinary citizens by expediting the process of bringing private power facilities onto the power grid to mitigate the power shortage.

Tomorrow, Sunday 8th January 2023, we will visit Kariba North Bank and Maamba for an on-site inspection, after which we will reconvene on Monday to review progress.

COPPER: The dilemma of an underpaid, overworked Zambian trucker

…following the disappearance of copper valued at K1,4 million

LUSAKA, 7th Jan. 2023

One of the most captivating contemporary stories in recent days in my view has been that of a truck driver that did a Houdini with a copper laden truck valued at US$80,000 or K1,4 million (of copper minus the truck) in our national currency according to verified media reports.

Initially I almost dismissed it as ´just another theft story´ but then I said, wait a minute, there is always a flip side to a coin, if you go around looking for it, that’s what I did, bearing in mind that crime must never be justified.

The first question I asked was, ´how much do truck drivers earn in Zambia per month as a wage´? ´What kind of conditions do they work under driving invaluable goods from the heart of the Congo via Zambia, all the way to Durban or Dar es Salaam, or even from Ndola or Kitwe to Walvis Bay in Namibia?

My research findings as you can probably guess where alarmingly miserable; I found out that a truck driver carrying a tonne of coper valued at US$6,600/tonne today only earns K980 for the lowest and about K2800 for the highest. Criminal!
What came to my mind then was the adage, “if you pay pea nuts, you get monkeys´” or garbage in garbage out.

Can you imagine trucking a 30-tonne truck full of copper or cobalt worth millions of kwacha, risking your life for US$160 per month.

I am not a businessman I am an academician, author, and diplomat so I can’t for the life of me tell what goes on, in the mind of a businessman, that entrusts a hungry and broke driver to transport goods worth millions of dollars or billions of kwachas.

Back in the day as an editor, this is a story I would assign a hard-nosed reporter to do a “day in a life of trucker,” but also, I would get the labour department to find out why they cannot come up with a minimum wage for essential workers that risk their lives across the board. What’s good for the goose must be good for the gander.

They could be nurses, soldiers’ cops etc because you cannot entrust your safety in the hands of an angry cop, security guard or chef. It’s a recipe for disaster, as in the story of the Zambian currently on the run with pay-dirt.

How many other essential workers in Zambia are underpaid?

Just food for thought folks as we enter the new year. God bless you!

11 things to know about Patrice Motsepe, Africa’s first Black billionaire

0

Patrice Motsepe is a South African billionaire with a net worth of $2.7 billion. In 2008, he became the first Black African to be featured on the Forbes list of world billionaires at the age of 46. He is also the first South African industrialist and billionaire.

In a CNN interview, Motsepe said his first passion was entrepreneurship. “Growing up in a business environment in a family, standing behind conflicts at a young age, and I wanted to pursue my first passion which was entrepreneurship,” he said.

Despite his success and influence in South Africa and Africa at large, not much is known about Motsepe.

Below are eleven things to know about the South African billionaire.

  1. He comes from a family of entrepreneurs

Motsepe comes from a family of entrepreneurs, which made his journey in the business world seem like a natural path. His grandfather and father were both entrepreneurs. His father, who was chief of the Mmakau branch of the Tswana people, was a schoolteacher and later became a businessman as the owner of a Spaza shop which was frequented by mine workers. It was from this shop that Motsepe gained exposure to the mining industry and had an opportunity to learn key business skills from his father that would shape his success. His mother, Key Motsepe, was also a businesswoman who ran the family business at the time.

  1. He made his money from mining

Motsepe is a mining magnate. According to him, it took many years to identify which opportunity to pursue and he realized that his country did not have a history of small-scale mining. This inspired him to venture into small-scale mining. He bought low-producing gold mine shafts in 1997 and turned them into profitable ventures in a year. Motsepe owns African Rainbow Minerals Ltd (ARM). The company mines iron ore, manganese ore and alloys, platinum group metals, copper, nickel and coal. ARM also has an investment in gold.

  1. Once the first Black partner at one of Africa’s largest law firm

Apart from being an international businessman, Motsepe is an expert in governance, law and compliance. He was the first Black partner at one of the largest law firms in South Africa, Bowmans, and was also a visiting attorney in the USA with McGuireWoods.

  1. He is a sports investor

Motsepe, now 60, is also an avid sports investor, with major investments in football and rugby. The billionaire is the bankroller and founder of South African football club Mamelodi Sundowns. Sundowns plays in South Africa’s elite league and are one-time champions of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League. On the domestic front, they have won the South African Premiership a record 10 times. Also, he is the joint major shareholder with a 37 percent stake in the Pretoria-based Bulls, currently the most successful rugby team in South Africa.

  1. He is the CAF President

Motsepe is the head of Africa’s football governing body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF). In 2021, he was elected as the seventh (7th) person to occupy the position of CAF President.

6. He is an avid philanthropist

Motsepe is an avid philanthropist. Through the Motsepe Foundation, founded in 1999, he is giving back to society. The foundation’s aim is to improve the quality of life for all, including the unemployed, women, youth workers and marginalized communities in South Africa. The Foundation also supports projects that have the potential to assist beneficiaries to become self-reliant and build non-racialism in South Africa; promote respect for diversity and encourage all races and all people of different faiths and cultures to move forward. In 2013, he also became the first African to sign Bill Gates and Warren Buffett’s Giving Pledge, promising to give at least half his fortune to charity.

7. He has a strong educational background

Motsepe has a BA law degree from the University of Swaziland, and an LLB and a Doctor of Commerce (honoris causa) from Wits University in South Africa. He also has a Doctor of Commerce (honoris causa) from Stellenbosch University, Doctor of Management and Commerce (honoris causa) from Fort Hare University and Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) from the University of Eswatini, formerly University of Swaziland.

8. He is a family man

Motsepe is married to Dr. Precious Makgosi Moloi. They met while they were both studying at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits). The couple has three sons, Thlopie, Kgosi and Kabelo Motsepe, all living together in Johannesburg.

9. He Believes in the Ubuntu Philosophy

In a CNN interview, Motsepe revealed that he abides by the South African philosophy of Ubuntu, which means “I am because you are.” According to him, his culture and tradition teaches him to assist and care for less fortunate and marginalized people.

10.  He is a member of several international associations

Motsepe is a member of the International Business Council (IBC) of the World Economic Forum, which is made up of 100 of the most highly respected and influential chief executives from all industries. He is also a member of the Harvard Global Advisory Council and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), amongst others.

11. He is not a man without controversies

At the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos, Motsepe went under fire for publicly telling US President Donald Trump that “Africa loves him”. The statement provoked much criticism throughout the African continent, and Motsepe later apologized saying “I do not have the right to speak on behalf of anybody except myself”.

SOCIALIST PARTY IS THE ONLY HOPE FOR ZAMBIA

…ensure that you send Dr Fred M’membe into State House in 2026 – Chrispin Chiinda

Lusaka, Saturday, January 7, 2023 ( Smart Eagles )

Munali Constituency Socialist Party (SP) 2026 aspiring lawmaker Chrispin Chiinda has tipped Zambians that the only hope they have out of the economic hardships they are grappling with is SP.

Chiinda, also known as Chris Mall, acknowledged the struggles citizens are going through, emanating from the high cost of living.

He also urged the residents to make Munali a stronghold for the Socialist Party.

The aspiring candidate said this during the Draughts Tournament finals in Chainda today.

“I want Chainda to be the stronghold for the Socialist Party. If here in Chainda President Fred M’membe can lose and I can also lose it means, we the people of Chainda have lost… In the Socialist Party, we believe in three things. Number on the list is peace, number two its equity, number three justice. Even in our respective, we want to be living in peace, we should be happy,” he said.

“In the Socialist Party we believe that we are all equal, there is no one who is better than the other. The Socialist Party government under the leadership of president Fred M’membe will ensure that the people in Chainda benefit from the opportunities that will be created. In the socialist we believe in uplifting the lives of others. Those doing businesses will have to be investing 10% of their earnings into the community. Socialist Party is the only hope for the Zambians. So in 2026, ensure that you vote for president Fred M’membe and for me as the area MP and the councilor that will be at that time picked.”

Meanwhile, the tournament which was launched in December last year has seen the winning team walking away with a K3,000.

And Mr Chiinda has revealed plans of making the tournament even bigger as he said the next one will be a “Munali Constituency Draft Tournament” where various wards will have to participate.

“We will go into other wards as well. We will go into Mtendere, we will go into Munali Ward, we will go into Kalingalinga then later on we will do the Munali Constituency competition,” he said.

“This is the first time we are doing a draft tournament here in Chainda and I know that some of the players are quite happy.”

Leadership in President HH

Leadership in President HH

I find so much comfort in the Leadership of His Excellence President Hakainde Hichilema and his team especially in difficult times.

When President HH saw that the distribution of farming inputs was in shambles he didn’t run away instead he went to the depot to appreciate the Situation himself and apologised to the farmers with a promise of the improved system come next farming season, in the previous regime they would not take responsibility or apologise to the people arrogance was beyond reach in Edgar Lungu administration.

Secondly right now we are faced with a huge crises of power shortages, again President HH has come to understand the situation and is currently making some frantic moves to fix the problem not temporary but permanently. The President to this effect has heard the call from the public to cut power export. He has responded in affirmative to the call from the citizens by cutting power export yet in the previous regime they used to deny exporting power anywhere even when they did, when we had the same crises they lied to Zambians that they wanted to import power spending hundreds of millions of dollars the fact though still remain that the said imported power didn’t reach Zambia. As concerned citizens we still have few questions over the same “imported”power who was paid those millions of dollars? Who paid it?

When we had the same crises under the previous regime through the government spokesperson then Mr Chishimba Kambwili PF government was very disrespectful to citizens to the tune of telling us all to go and urinate in the Kariba dam if we wanted power.

With the fact that we gave President HH and his team 5 years lets see if by the end of their five year term they won’t end the problem of Loadshedding and that of delays in farming inputs distribution. Leadership is about acknowledging your shortfalls and attend to them accordingly Leadership with arrogance is a dead one

I AM CERTAIN OF WINNING THE PF PRESIDENCY
…but if I lose, I will support the winner – GBM
Lusaka, Saturday, January 7, 2023 ( Smart Eagles )
Despite being optimistic that he will scoop the party top job, PF presidential hopeful Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba – GBM has said he will still stay in the party even if he loses.

Hon Mwamba said “maybe” one-day people will appreciate his contribution to the party.
Supporters and general membership of the party have been hoping that the party remains united after the convention.
For some sections of society, division in the PF is invincible after the convention.
Nine political heavyweights have so far expressed their interest in taking up the PF presidency.
So far, they have all spoken the same language of love and unity regarding what happens after the convention.
Speaking when he featured on Hot FM’s live program yesterday, Hon Mwamba said he will support whoever will win.
“If I don’t make it, I will stay in PF. I have told you the background of PF and what I personally did for PF. So why should I think of going elsewhere if I don’t make it? I will stay in PF. Maybe someday people will realize how important I was at a particular time when they so much needed me,” he said.

“So in short I am staying. If I don’t make it, I will support whoever will be picked by the majority…
If you had a chance to talk to your younger self, what would you say?”
He is optimistic of scooping the party presidency based on his contribution to the party.
Hon Mwamba says despite not being the founder member of the party, he has been helping the party financially.

And Hon Mwamba said he is certain he will emerge victorious in the said race because of the good works he has done in the party.
“I have been in PF not from its inception but a few years after his inception. I was there the time MMD wanted to fabricate stories so that the late president Michael Stata shouldn’t feature on the ballot paper, I was there. I helped to finance the PF, in its opposition. I am sure that is not debatable, who doesn’t know that? PF one day will write the history about the formation of its party, my name will always be there,” he said.

“For PF to form government it’s because I helped so much. The secretariat was at my premises while in opposition. PF went into government out of my premises. Michael Chilufya Sata went into State House with a silver Land Cruiser which I bought him.”

Patriotic Front – PF Presidential candidate Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba – GBM has said God blesses people so that they can share the blessings with those in need.

Hon Mwamba has called on citizens to be generous.
Meanwhile, the potential PF president said he would love to be remembered for his generosity.
He said this when he featured on Hot FM today.

“When I die, I want to be remembered as a generous person and also kind, and also a unifier, not only in the family but also outside the family. Because at the end of the day we are greater family. We are one, this is how God created us. So we should not only look after our families but also the extended ones,” he said.

“Let us look after those that are not able to feed themselves. I find sometimes when I am driving around aa vulnerable person on the street begging for money and somebody at a bar drinking, instead of just giving a K50 to that person. Let us be generous, let us be kind. You know why God gives us? He gives us so that we can also give those that cannot afford.”
Asked what he would tell “his younger self,” Hon Mwamba said “I think I would tell myself that I should have worked harder when I was young.

Hon Mwamba said has always been working hard be he wished he worked harder when he was young.
“You only work hard when you are young, not when you are old. When you are getting into the 60s it’s time to retire. Let us work hard when we are young. Let us make as much money as possible so that when you start getting older, you start to have medical bills that need a lot of money…,” he said.

“When you get old you will realize that none of your siblings are able to look after you because they also have their own interests now, they also have their own families to look after. So better secure your life when you are young.”

TAKE BLAME FOR ZAMBIA’S POWER WOES, MUUNDA TELLS OFF PF

..commends President Hichilema for Energy Efficiency Strategy.

LUSAKA task force chairman, Morgan Muunda has taken a swipe at the former ruling party for failing to put futuristic power outage preventive measures in place.

He argued that had the previous regime not bankrolled its party cadres on the ZESCO payroll, the power utility company couldn’t have lost much of its income meant for maintenance, expansion and repair of the Kariba power generation facility.

He observed that it was the wanton, reckless misuse of income from the company as well as the subsequent failure to reform ZESCO that has led to Zambians being subjected to intermittent power blackouts.

And Muunda has commended President Hakainde Hichilema for formulating an Energy Efficiency Strategy through the Ministry of Energy aimed at expediting the process for investors to develop independent power producers.

He also stressed that instead of taking to social media and climbing anthill summits to denounce the Hakainde-led New Dawn administration for the 12-hours long loadshedding currently being experienced in the country, Muunda said it was only prudent that the leaders of the former ruling party did self introspection and soul searching over the matter.

He said that it was failure on their part to swiftly embark on a robust shift from over-dependence on hydro electricity to other sources of energy such as thermal, solar and wind that has led to the current situation.

He further observed that the failure by the PF during its 10 years-long stay in power to harness the huge coal availability in the country for thermal power generation and later its (PF) inability to tap into the abundant sunshine to salvage the solar potential of Zambia could be blamed for the current power mallaise.

Muunda said that it was regrettable that the people responsible for the numerous economic woes that has plunged majority Zambian citizens were the loudest when it comes to pointing figures at the UPND-led government over a number of economic rigidities that President Hichilema is working on unlocking.

Yesterday, President Hichilema expressed concern at the disruptions caused by the on-going loadshedding which he said has affected various economic sectors, small scale businesses, vital installations, households and ordinary people.

Are UPND cadres above the law, asks M’membe

Are UPND cadres above the law, asks M’membe

By Fanny Kalonda

SOCIALIST Party president Fred M’membe says it is shocking that UPND cadres can storm a radio station, stop a broadcast and yet no arrests made when they are known.

He wondered if the UPND cadres were above the law as this is a very serious matter and a violation of a fundamental human right.

“It’s shocking that UPND cadres can storm a radio station, stop a broadcast and chase away some one being interviewed. This is what happened to EEP president Chilufya Tayali in Chingola. As if stopping the broadcast was not bad enough, they forced Mr Tayali out of Chingola. These cadres are known and are bragging about it. But no arrests!” Dr M’membe noted. “What type of law enforcement is this? Are UPND cadres above the law? What would be the situation if this was done by opposition cadres to a UPND leader? This not a small issue. It’s a very serious matter. It’s a violation of a fundamental human right – freedom of expression.”

He said when someone is criticising the government for not living up to its promises, they are exercising their freedom of expression.

“Freedom of expression is the freedom for us all to express ourselves. It is the right to speak, to be heard, and to participate in political, artistic, and social life. It also includes the ‘right to know’: the right to seek, receive, and share information through any media,” Dr M’membe explained. “When you share your views or seek out information, online or off, you’re exercising your right to freedom of expression. When you criticise your government for not living up to its promises, you’re exercising your right to freedom of expression. When you question or debate religious, political, social or cultural practices, you’re exercising your right to freedom of expression. When you attend a peaceful protest or organise one, you’re exercising your right to freedom of expression.”

He noted that freedom of expression enables people to question government, which helps to keep them accountable.

“The problems we all face are complex. If we cannot freely exchange ideas and information, then we are all deprived of the potential solutions,” Dr M’membe said. “Freedom of expression is fundamental to political dissent, diverse cultural expression, creativity, and innovation as well as the development of one’s personality through self-expression. Freedom of expression enables dialogue, builds understanding, and increases public knowledge. When we can freely exchange ideas and information, our knowledge improves, which benefits our communities and societies.”

He said questioning and debate are healthy as they lead to better policies and more stable societies.

“You can’t say that is all too often the response of those in power to having their power challenged. To accept that certain things cannot be said is to accept that certain forms of power cannot be challenged,” Dr M’membe said.

He said freedom of expression is the lifeblood of democracy stressing that society needs it for protection against atrocities the government can place on citizens.

“Democracy is built on the right to dissent, on the right for people to hold opposing positions. Our society needs freedom of expression to protect us from the worst atrocities that our government can visit on its citizens. Does freedom of expression mean we can say whatever we like? While the right to freedom of expression is fundamental, it is not absolute. This means it can be limited in exceptional circumstances,” he noted.

“Without the freedom to offend, freedom of expression ceases to exist. Religions, governments, and flags cannot be harmed – only people can. That’s why human rights protects people – not ideas, states, or religions.”

Dr M’membe said politicians and public officials must create an enabling environment for freedom of expression and not diminish it.

“…any restrictions on free speech should only protect people from harm, not governments from criticism. And it’s people with the least power who need the most protection. Censorship is a political tool and its advocates may cite religious orthodoxy or any other dogmatic belief to claim the moral high ground and silence or even murder those they disagree with,” said Dr M’membe. “But freedom of expression is so fundamental to each and every one of us – from civil society to journalists, educators, writers, artists, lawyers, and activists – that we all have an obligation to stand up for it. Including you and I. There’s really no such thing as the ‘voiceless’. There are only the deliberately silenced or the preferably unheard.”

Mansa Musa: 5 Inspiring Lessons From The Life Of The Wealthiest Man In History

0

Mansa Musa was the fourteenth-century king of the West African Mali Empire. He is known for his legendary pilgrimage to Mecca, during which he is said to have brought an enormous amount of wealth to the cities along his route.

Today, Mansa Musa is remembered not only for his wealth, but also for his wisdom and generosity. Here are five inspiring lessons that we can all learn from the life of this great king.

  1. Wealth is not the only measure of success. Despite his legendary riches, Mansa Musa is remembered not for the amount of gold that he possessed, but for the wisdom and generosity that he displayed. He used his wealth to benefit the people of his empire and to improve the lives of those around him. This teaches us that true success is not determined by material possessions, but by the good that we do in the world.
  2. Education is a powerful tool. Mansa Musa was a devout Muslim, and he placed a strong emphasis on education. He built schools and universities throughout the Mali Empire, and he encouraged the pursuit of knowledge in all fields. This emphasis on education allowed the empire to thrive and made it a center of learning and culture in West Africa.
  3. Generosity can inspire others. During his pilgrimage to Mecca, Mansa Musa is said to have distributed so much gold that the value of the metal decreased significantly in the cities that he visited. He also funded the construction of mosques and other important buildings along his route. This generosity not only benefited the people he encountered, but it also inspired others to be more giving and compassionate.
  4. Culture and diversity should be celebrated. The Mali Empire was a diverse and multicultural society, and Mansa Musa embraced this diversity. He encouraged trade and exchange between different peoples, which helped to create a rich and vibrant culture. This teaches us the importance of valuing and celebrating the unique perspectives and experiences of others.
  5. Leadership is about serving others. As a king, Mansa Musa had great power and influence. But rather than using this power for his own gain, he used it to serve the people of his empire. He worked to improve the lives of his subjects and to create a better future for all. This teaches us that true leadership is about serving others and working for the greater good.

In conclusion, the life of Mansa Musa offers many valuable lessons for us today. He reminds us that wealth is not the only measure of success, that education is a powerful tool, and that generosity can inspire others. He also teaches us the importance of celebrating culture and diversity, and of using our leadership for the benefit of others. These lessons are as relevant today as they were in the fourteenth century, and they remind us of the enduring power of wisdom, compassion, and service

BOY AGED SIX DETAINED AFTER SHOOTING TEACHER IN US

JANUARY 7, 2023

(BBC News)

A six-year-old boy has been detained by police after shooting a teacher in the US state of Virginia, officers say.

The shooting happened shortly after 14:00 local time (19:00 GMT) at Richneck Elementary School in the city of Newport News, Chief Steve Drew said.

It is unclear how the child obtained the gun, but Mr Drew said the incident was not “an accidental shooting”.

The teacher – who has not been named and is said to be in her 30s – was left with life-threatening injuries.

She was taken to a local hospital and is being closely monitored by doctors. The incident took place in a first grade (ages six to seven) classroom after an altercation between the pair.

But Mr Drew emphasised that the shooting had been an isolated incident and stressed that officers “did not have a situation where someone was going around the school shooting”.

Officials said that while the school – which has around 550 students – had metal detection facilities, students were checked at random and not every child was inspected.

Police declined to name the weapon used in the incident, but said the boy had used a handgun.

School District Head Dr George Parker said officials would “be looking at any instance that may have occurred that may have caused this incident”.

“This is terrible, something like this should never occur,” Dr Parker added. “We want to ensure nothing like this happens again.”

He said the school would be closed on Monday, and pledged that students and parents would be offered support to help them deal with the traumatic event.

Mayor Phillip Jones – who took office just three days ago – said the shooting marked “a dark day for Newport News”.

“We’re going to learn from this and we’re going to come back stronger,” he told reporters.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin said he had offered assistance to local officials, adding that his administration was “ready to help in any way we can”.

“I am continuing to monitor the situation and am praying for the continued safety of all students and the community,” he wrote on Twitter.

Newton News is a city of around 180,000 people and sits about 70 miles (112km) to the south of the state capital Richmond.

TRUMP SUED OVER CAPITOL POLICE OFFICERS DEATH

JANUARY 7, 2023

By Nadine Yousif

The partner of a US Capitol Police officer who died a day after the 6 January 2021 riot has sued Donald Trump for wrongful death.

The lawsuit filed on Thursday says Mr Trump “intentionally riled up the crowd” that attacked Brian Sicknick.

Police have ramped up security on Capitol grounds on the second anniversary of the riots.

Hundreds have been convicted so far, but the FBI says there are more at large.

Federal police believe that more than 300 people who committed violent acts that day are yet to be identified.

Among them is a person responsible for planting pipe bombs outside the headquarters of the Republican and Democratic national committees the night before the riots.

On Wednesday, the FBI said it will offer $500,000 (£420,730) to anyone with information that can help them catch the suspect.

The US Capitol riot erupted two years ago as Congress certified President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

The mob stormed the Capitol following a speech from Mr Trump, who was speaking at a rally one mile from the Capitol grounds. In his speech, Mr Trump claimed election fraud and called on then-Vice-President Mike Pence to overturn the results.

“We’re going to walk down to the Capitol,” Mr Trump said in the speech. “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”

In the same speech he also told them to “peacefully and patriotically make their voices heard”.

During a commemoration event on Thursday at the White House, Mr Biden called the events of 6 January an “inflection point” of US history.

“It’s hard to believe that this could happen right here in America,” he said.

“January 6 is a reminder that there is nothing guaranteed about our democracy,” Mr Biden added.

US Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick died one day after the 6 January 2021 riots

‘Wrongful Death’

One woman was fatally shot during the riots by a police officer. Three others who were on Capitol grounds that day died from natural causes.

One of them was Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who died a day after the riots from a series of strokes.

While Mr Sicknick did not suffer any injuries during the riot, a lawsuit filed by his family on Thursday alleges the violent mob played a role in his death.

His family sued Mr Trump on Thursday for wrongful death, claiming that the former president “intentionally riled up the crowd” and that Mr Sicknick died as a result of “the injuries that violence caused”.

“Many participants in the attack have since revealed that they were acting on what they believed to be Defendant Trump’s direct orders in service of their country,” the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit also accuses Mr Trump of violating Mr Sicknick’s civil rights, assault and negligence, and is seeking $10m in damages.

Mr Trump has not yet commented on the lawsuit.

On Thursday, Mr Biden awarded several presidential citizen’s medals to officers who responded to the 6 January riots, including a posthumous medal for Mr Sicknick, saying he “lost his life after protecting the citadel of democracy.”

Since the attacks, a Democrat-led congressional probe also examined Mr Trump’s role in inciting the riots.

In December, the US House committee probing the 6 January attack asked federal prosecutors to charge Mr Trump with obstruction and insurrection – marking the first time in US history that Congress referred a former president to be criminally prosecuted.

Angry Man Beats His Wife’s Alleged Boyfriend To Death

KENYA – A 42-year-old man from Kenya identified as Julius Kipkurui has lost his life for allegedly having affair with his neighbour’s wife named Chero.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a statement on Thursday, January 5, 2023, said the deceased was beaten to death by the woman’s husband.

According to the DCI, the deceased had sneaked into Chero’s house at about 3:am for their usual tryst but unknown to him, her husband who works miles away from home had returned unexpectedly.

“He knocked on the woman’s door and came face to face with her husband who crushed him like pounded fufu,” the statement read.

Read the full report below

“The 40th day for Julius Kipkurui, 42, arrived after he crept into the compound of one Gideon Kiptanui (not real names) minutes past 3am and started calling out the name of the man’s wife Chero asking her to open the door. Unbeknownst to him, Chero’s husband believed to be working miles away from home had arrived incognito, earlier in the day.

“Initially, the man of the house who was in deep slumber thought that it was a bad dream but when the husky voice coming through a space between the wooden window persisted, he woke up all ears!

“Chero, yaat kurget, ane pepis neng’ung (Chero open the door, it’s me your babe) the voice continued.

“A deafening silence followed as the man who was now seated on the bed digested the words in shock, looking down besides him where his wife lay without making a move.

“But before he could confront her over who the pepis was, the Casanova who had the impatience of a stallion knocked yet again! Chero! yaani mekosei? (Arent you opening?)

“This prompted the man of the house to fly from the bed with furry towards the door, and immediately after opening it went for the 42-year-old with the rage of a wounded lion!

“What followed was a commotion that shook the entire Takitech village as Chero’s husband attacked the man who dared to harvest where he hadn’t sown. It took the intervention of the village sub chief and nyumba kumi elders to calm down the situation and return things back to normalcy.

“Meanwhile, Chero fled the homestead to neighbouring farms through the cattle boma, further rattling the animals that were equally bewildered following the unfolding events.

“The badly injured intruder was rushed to Kapkatet hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

“At the scene, the man of house was arrested and is currently being held at Abossi police station as appropriate charges are being prepared.”

US announces largest aid package for Ukraine

0

The United States announced $3 billion in military assistance for Ukraine on Friday, which the White House said was the largest aid package for Kyiv to date.

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the assistance, which would be detailed later by the Pentagon, was expected to include Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, MRAPs and other personnel carriers, and self-propelled howitzers.

Washington and Berlin announced the previous day that they would provide armoured vehicles — Bradleys from the United States and Marders from Germany — but did not provide details.

Berlin said Friday that it would send about 40 of the Marder vehicles to Ukraine within weeks, and that training on them would be provided in Germany.

Both they and the Bradleys — which are usually armed with a 25 mm autocannon, a 7.62 mm machine gun and anti-tank missiles — will provide Ukrainian forces with additional firepower.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told journalists that the Bradleys “are very significant in terms of being able to do what we call combined arms maneuver warfare,” an area in which the Pentagon has said it will provide training to Kyiv’s forces.

The vehicles are “very much tied to the war that we’re seeing on the ground right now and what we anticipate we’ll see throughout the winter months,” Kirby said.

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder said the previous day that the Bradley was “not a tank, but it’s a tank killer.”

“We’re confident that it will aid them on the battlefield,” he added.

Ukraine has long pushed for heavier weaponry, including tanks, that will aid its operations. Western nations have been reluctant to send them, citing fears of becoming further drawn into the war or provoking Russia.

But the Ukrainians have built momentum and Western nations have been expanding the weapons they send them.

The US-German announcement on the armoured vehicles came after France promised to deliver its AMX-10 RC light tanks, which are wheeled rather than tracked but which share the much heavier cannon typical on a tank.

The French move put Germany under fresh political pressure to do more to help Ukraine.

Germany also said Thursday that it would follow the United States in sending a Patriot missile battery to Ukraine, meaning Kyiv’s forces are slated to receive two of the advanced air defence systems.
