Concourt #CANNOT stop ECL, they will just bring confusion if they decide to do so, and it will only work in favour of ECL while HH will be demonized.

No matter which way you look at it, Edgar Chagwa Lungu is #unstoppable whether on the ballot or not, dead or alive, he is already sold out, it’s just a matter of time.

ECL on the ballot against HH, the former will beat current pants down. Actually, if HH will even get 30%, he will be very lucky, because even Southern Province will not pour hailstorm of votes for HH.

Okay, if the Councourt says, ECZ was wrong to accept ECL’s nominations in the 2021 general elections, then what will happen HH’s election and swearing-in? Will they say, it was valid and we continue or cancel everything. And who will be President?

What about the people, or rather, the situation in the Country? Will there be peace?

My brother Judge Chitabo used to tell me that, at times judges have to use their #wisdom in passing judgement, considering facts, the law and the public interest.

Put that aside, if for any reason, ECL is not on the ballot, whosoever he will anoint will inherit all the GOODWILL former President is enjoying plus, the sympathy (from those who may not like ECL now), annoyance against the dictatorship of HH (especially among the neutrals) and of course the personal GOODWILL of the anointed one, especially if that person commands some following already.

This scenario will surely guarantee the other person, anointed by ECL, a sure win against HH. However, I am not for this situation, for reasons I will explain at 20:00HRS.

Owing to what happened to the abduction of JJ Banda, attempted assassination on me, as well as torture of that Pastor and other human rights on opponents, I will not be inflammatory if I say, President Hichilema’s govt is so careless and ruthless, to even consider taking down ECL, but even that would not give HH a second term, people will just hate him even more.

All the scenarios discussed above do not consider 50% plus 1, which is against HH even if he had a little chance.

But let me enjoy my lunch, we will talk later at 20:00HRS.

UPND WON’T SURVIVE… Mr Lungu in 2021 didn’t want to go but he had to go, says M’membe

By Fanny Kalonda ( The Mast)

WE have the Mobutu types of leaders in this country, says Socialist Party president Fred M’membe.

He says the country is being governed by leaders who are busy enriching themselves.

“Selfishness, greedy, vanity, corruption, abuse, everything that is bad in leadership you find it in Mobutu,” he explained.

Featuring on Prime TV’s Oxygen of Democracy programme, Dr M’membe said those who left office did not want to go “but went therefore UPND will also not survive the will of the people no matter what they do”.

“That’s how Zambia is being governed today. They are busy enriching themselves, they can’t even declare to you what they have. They can’t show you what they have because they are busy amassing. First they lied to you that they had this and that which they didn’t even quantify properly. They don’t have. It’s now that they are amassing wealth. They are entering every sector now, mining, financial, whatever. I am talking about your leaders. I am talking about the people who are leading this country today, who are governing this country. Not all of them, some of them are poor but the key leaders of your country today are amassing wealth,” he said. “You want me to mention, yes Mr Hakainde Hichilema let him declare to you what he had before he got into government and what he has today. Let him declare at every stage what he had and where it came from. The leadership we have today is not different from Mobotu. That’s why even the trampling on our fundamental human rights it’s so easy for them. Honest leaders don’t do that. What is the difference between Mr Hichilema and Mobutu?”

Dr M’membe said he does not hate President Hichilema stating that hatred would not benefit anyone.

“When people don’t enjoy their liberties, when leaders are not accountable, what is the difference with Mobutu? What’s the difference between the way the … used to be and what we have today? The greed, the vanity, the selfishness, corruption, what’s the difference? The trampling on people’s rights, what’s the difference? …I don’t have any interaction with him (President Hichilema), why would I have personal hatred for him? And what does it benefit an individual to hate an individual? What does it benefit you to hate me? Simply pointing out the deficiencies is not hatred,” he said. “They are doing everything possible to weaken the opposition to make sure that the opposition, to ensure that the views of the opposition are not heard.”

Dr M’membe said for dictators, when people decide they have to go they have gone.

“Those who left office did not want to go. Dr Kaunda and UNIP in 1991 they didn’t want to go, but they had to go. Mr Rupiah Banda in 2011 did not want to go, he cried but he had to go. Mr Lungu in 2021 didn’t want to go, but he had to go. Even them they will have to go. They will not be able to survive the will of the people. They can’t, no matter what they do. Even dictators when people decide they have to go, they have gone. You can’t defy the will of the people,” he said.

Dr M’membe said under the current leadership, poverty has increased and economic deterioration is there for all to see.

He said the SP programmes are not heard because the party is not allowed to interact meaningfully with the people.

“Even to just hold a small meeting, the police will be on you for an illegal meeting. How do you mobilise? How do you organise, how do you educate? Even how do you agitate the people for your course? Did I get into politics because of Mr Hakainde? I went to Garden… to form MMD because of Mr Hakainde? Was he there? When did we start hearing about Mr Hakainde, 2006 when he jumped from nowhere to become president of UPND. So there is no hatred. Look, it’s not me who has made the cost of living the way it is now. These problems are not created by me,” he said. “There will be nobody who will complain about the living conditions, there will be nobody who will complain about Mr Hakainde’s governance? All these people in opposition hate Mr Hakainde? To be in opposition, you hate Mr Hakainde? Tell me how we should demonstrate our love for him. As far as I know, the only way to stop somebody from doing something that makes him hated is to do the right thing. How can you help somebody who is on the wrong path? By correcting them, by telling them this is not the way to go and that’s what we are telling Mr Hakainde. This is not the way to run the country. Under his leadership, poverty has increased. That’s a fact. Economic deterioration is there for all to see. Statistics are there. Under his leadership, the violation of our fundamental rights is increasing by the day. I have never seen so many arrests of so many people on trumped up charges. I have never seen anything like this.”

Dr M’membe said complaining about the public order Act and its abuse is not fighting President Hichilema or hating him.

“I should be burning inside me because Mr Lungu did this to me, did that to me or so and so did this to me, did that to me? I have been to prison in some cases without trial. I went to Chimbokaila, spent a month in Chimbokaila without trial, over the public order Act. Who took me to prison? The MMD. So it’s not just today that we are fighting against the public order Act. We did this even when we were journalists. I was the first person to take the public order Act to court. As an individual when I was working as a journalist represented by now state counsel [John] Sangwa. So complaining about the public order Act, its abuse, it’s not fighting Mr Hakainde Hichilema or hating Mr Hichilema. But then again he didn’t write the public order Act. Yes, he’s abusing it,” he said.

Dr M’membe said he has never seen the worst form of tribalism in this country “as I am seeing today”.

“Just look at the composition of your public sector. Look at the job distributions and so on,” he said.

Dr M’membe said people are complaining about the levels of tribalism.

“They are the worst tribalists I have seen in the history of this country. Those who are governing today, they have divided this country. Mr Hichilema has divided this country in a way that it has never been divided before. Today even little children who don’t even know where they come from today are talking about tribe. And you want to arrest anybody who wants to ensure that that thing, that tribe thing is contained? You want to charge them with tribal hate speech when you are practicing tribalism yourselves? These are the worst tribalists. They want to shut up everyone from talking about their tribalism. They are not concerned about tribalism, they are concerned about being pointed out. Being called out as tribalists, that’s what they are concerned about,” he said. “If they are happy with the way they are living, if they are satisfied with the way they are living, let them vote Mr Hichilema and UPND in 2026. If they are not satisfied, we are an alternative. Should things continue this way, are things going to change for the better? Are things changing for the better, are they getting worse? It’s not what I want, you can’t tell Zambians you can sell anything to Zambians if it doesn’t make sense they won’t buy it. If they are happy with Mr Hichilema, their lives are getting better by the day, no matter how much I come here on this television station and vilify Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND, they will still vote for them. The truth of the reality is, the situation is tough for many of our people. The situation is tough even those who are pretending. Today it’s not just the poor people who are feeling it, the middle class are also feeling it. What is there to celebrate? In which area of the lives of our people can they celebrate today? And the divisions that you are seeing today are not just on the basis of tribe. The traditional leaders they are fighting with them. The same people, Mr Hichilema, they are fighting with him. They have got issues, they have got issues with Church leaders or churches. They have got issues with businessmen. They have got issues with politicians. They have got issues with everybody including even among themselves there are issues. I have never seen a divisive leader like Mr Hichilema in the history of this country. He’s the most divisive element this country has ever seen in leadership. In top leadership, you can’t compare him to Dr Kaunda. You can’t compare him to even Mr [Frederick] Chiluba. You can’t compare him to Levy [Mwanawasa]. You can’t compare him to Mr Banda. You can’t even compare him to Edgar Lungu. He has divided the country more than any person has ever divided this country on all sorts of fronts not only tribe.”

Dr M’membe added that the country is looking for collective wisdom and not one single fixer.

“We are not looking for one fixer like the way Mr Hakainde was cheating people. We are looking for a collective fixer. We are not looking for a single genius. We are looking for a collective genius. We are not looking for a single Migiver, we are looking for a collective MacGyver, only collective wisdom. There is more hunger in the country than there was three years ago when this government or this party took over government. Let’s be broadminded. We revolutionaries, work for the future as we struggle for the present. We also have an eye for the future,” he said.

“At the current population growth of our country of 2.94 per cent per annum in 15 years the population of this country which is 20.6 [million] will double, we will have 40 million plus Zambians in 15 years. With the current economic policies we have and social policies we have, how are we going to take care in 15 years of the education requirements of our people with a doubled population? Of the health requirements of our people with a doubled population when we can’t take care of 20.6 million. Responsible and sensible leaders work for the future.”

Dr M’membe said the country cannot sacrifice people’s fundamental human rights because some people are scared of being criticised or losing power.

He explained that citizens have the right to defend their human rights by any means necessary.

“They say they don’t have manpower sometimes, then you find the grounds where you are supposed to hold rallies the following morning is full of police officers. All the equipment for riot control is there and if there is insecurity, why only the opposition? They themselves are holding rallies, they are holding big meetings as and when they want, so security considerations are only for the opposition? Almost three years down the line, no single rally? I could have used a much harsher word to say, it’s all nonsense. It doesn’t make sense, that line of security does not make sense. We have held rallies in this country under a state of emergency. We can’t sacrifice our fundamental human rights just because some people fear that if they are criticised, they will lose power,” said Dr M’membe. “Is it rallies that have created the crises we are facing in the country? Can you say it’s rallies or political protests or political speeches that have created the high prices of mealie meal, the high fuel prices, the depreciation of the kwacha and the general high cost of living? Ideas don’t create crises, crises generate ideas not vice versa. These liberties are not just about political parties, these are fundamental human rights which this government is violating. So actually it’s a very primitive behaviour, which will not take them anywhere. This is barbarism, this is backwardness. You can’t after what they went through for 23 years, they come and start to violate the fundamental rights of Zambians. It’s not just our rights as SP or the rights of opposition political parties ABCDEZ, they are violating the rights of all Zambians by denying SP the right to hold its rallies. It’s not only SP whose rights they are violating, they are violating the rights of all of you in so doing. We will get our rights, we will defend our rights by any means necessary.”

I don’t know whether rats ate UPND’s 10-point plan scripts – Mukandila

By Thomas Ngala( The Mast)

THEY had a 10-point plan, I don’t know whether those scripts were eaten by rats in their homes, Lusaka lawyer Celestine Mukandila scorns the UPND government over load shedding and other challenges citizens are grappling with.

Mukandila, a PF member, recalled when he featured on Live Radio that President Hakainde Hichilema mocked the previous regime on how they handled load shedding and promised to fix it as he ascends to power.

He feared that the country is headed towards 16 hours of load shedding.

“So they will come in and charge you with an offence of hate speech, which equally borders on ensuring that the statement you are making should not be false. So here I am, I am on radio today, speaking to the Zambian people and reminding them that once upon a time Bally indicated on his social media platforms that having power in homes has become more like being in possession of an illegal substance. Now the question is, is it a lie? It is true… he mocked the load shedding that was happening. He lied to the Zambian people that I have completely gotten rid of load shedding within one year. But what we are seeing is we are headed towards 16 hours of load shedding,” he said. “In some areas, they are not even seeing power. But this is a service that we pay for… What we are seeing is unfortunate because our leaders have failed to provide alternatives. Alternatives that they themselves told the Zambian people that they had. They had a 10-point plan, which 10-point plan, I don’t know whether they lost those scripts, I don’t know whether those scripts were eaten by rats in their homes.”

Mukandila accused the UPND of being a government that is hell bent on punishing those with opposing views.

“Governments such as this one which is hell bent on punishing those with opposing views would rise and give people charges that are seriously malicious, all in the name of intimidating, curtailing people’s rights to express themselves, curtailing people’s rights to associate with any political party of their choice or any religion of their choice. So it’s a challenge,” he said.

Mukandila said democracy is currently at a brink of collapse.

“It is at a brink of collapse because these rights are being curtailed by the use of lawfare. What this government has been doing, has been using lawfare to curtail several human rights and the human rights violations have become so apparent,” said Mukandila. “We hope that this government should wake up and know to say that the kind of abrogation of rights using lawfare, such as the law with regards to seditious practices, espionage, the law with regards to hate speech, is not enough to unite this country. Because what we have now seen is lawfare being used to disintegrate the peace that we have, unfortunately.”

I DON’T HATE JJ BANDA, BUT I STRONGLY DETEST INJUSTICES MIXED WITH POLITICS- Sikaile Sikaile

I DON’T HATE JJ BANDA, BUT I STRONGLY DETEST INJUSTICES MIXED WITH POLITICS.

IN ALL FAIRNESS, I GUIDED THE ZAMBIA POLICE, NPA, AND THE PF WHEN JJ BANDA ATTACKED POLICE OFFICERS. THE PROBLEM IN ZAMBIA IS THAT WE FORGET FAST! MANY PF LEADERS ESCAPED JAIL BY BEING GIVEN SMALL CHARGES, LEAVING THE BIG ONES THAT WOULD LAND MANY IN TROUBLE. IF THE PF WERE SMART, THEY WOULD HAVE PUSHED IN 2020 FOR JJ BANDA TO BE SLAPPED WITH AGGRAVATED CHARGES AND THEN CLEARED HIM THROUGH THE COURT.

“NATIONAL PROSECUTION AUTHORITY AND THE ADVICE TO THE POLICE”

Listening to what advice the learned prosecutors gave to the IG on how to charge Jay Jay PF cadre who beat up police officers and stole money at Lusaka central police station last month makes one understand why we have such a high fail rate at ZIALE. Or better still why we have broken a record on a number of Nolles handed out in criminal cases since independence.

Was this advice given to get Jay Banda off the hook, or was it in the best interest of justice?

Aggravated Robbery according to Sec 294(1) CAP 87 says,” any person who, being armed with any offensive weapon or instrument, or being together with one person or more, steals anything, and, at or immediately before or immediately after the time of stealing he/she uses, or threatens to use actual violence to any person or property to obtain or retain the thing stolen or to prevent or overcome resistance to its being stolen or retained is guilty of a felony of aggravated Robbery and liable upon conviction to life imprisonment or dearth (2) (a) where the offensive weapon is a firearm.

Sec 295 CAP 87 Aggravated assault on the other hand says,”any person who, being armed with any offensive weapon or instrument, or being together with one person or more, assaults any person with intent to steal anything, is guilty of a felony and is liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a period of not less than 10 years and not exceeding twenty years.

Why did these so called learned, yet not so learned prosecutors advise the IG to go for Sec 295 CAP 87? If you look carefully at these two offences one (294) has person or property and (295) has only a person. The reason behind this charge was to triangulate the charge to an individual. Reason being, an individual can be persuaded to drop the charge where as property may not.

This offence of aggravated Robbery was committed against Lusaka Central targeting the evidence room. Therefore, the charge of aggravated Robbery was avoided, because that would mean no way out for Emmanuel Banda commonly known as Jay Jay or it would have been for the infamous nolle.

Change the charge and bring in an assault of the guard and use it so the guard can withdraw the charge and jay jay is free is the game PF leaders have played on this serious case.

Now here is a catch, the attack was on Central Police. If a police officer was injured in the process, that would have proved use of violence (resistance to retain….) which is an ingredient in aggravated Robbery. The fact that the suspects were armed with firearms, the penalty would have been death.

Fellow citizens, are you seeing what I am seeing?
Now coming back to the law, Jay Jay would have been charged with aggravated Robbery. If as the prosecutors contend, that there was not enough evidence. A good prosecutor would have gone with the capital offence and moved the court to consider convicting on the alternative charge.

After all, the law considers that no one shall be acquitted merely on ground of a wrong charge. The court is allowed to acquit on a wrong charge and convict in the alternative charge. Therefore, change of a charge should have been considered during submission at the close of the case awaiting judgement.

The officer who got injured was, or is not the owner of Lusaka central. He or she was just like a property at the station. I therefore conclude that the case is fixed in favor of Jay Jay. The officer will definitely drop the charge as he will have no muscle to fight a powerful PF cadre like Jay Jay who reports direct to Edgar Lungu and Steven Kampyongo.

All the plan was surrender yourself and we will protect you using our positions, this is why he didn’t even spend a night in police custody.

There is no tension in this country, no need for any indaba – Wynter Kabimba

There is no tension in this country, no need for any indaba – Wynter

By Kholiwe Miti

ECONOMIC Front Party president Wynter Kabimba says he does not agree that there is tension in the country.

He says political players need to respect one another and practice civil politics.

“We actually fail to hit the nail on the head in Chinua Achebe’s words in Things Fall Apart. Africans we are very good at talking in parables and that is how we become economical with the truth. You know what is true but you do not want to say it. And I have been accused saying people do not like you, you are very forthright. You are very candid. So in order for me to be liked by people I must lie, I must not think independently? I must go with the flow, I must say what I do not believe in, no!” Kabimba said when he featured on Lusaka Radio’s “Talk of the city” programme recently. “There is no tension in this country. There is no need for any indaba in this country. What we ought to do is start practicing civil politics. Respect for one another. Express our views in a manner that doesn’t injure your neighbour. Let’s be good neighbours. So I do not agree with those, with all due respect to Bishop Masupa, I do not agree that the problem is tension because tension must have a genesis. Tension is a symbolism of what has gone wrong. So go for what has gone wrong not the symptoms.”

He said society needs to demand and produce mature politicians.

“The problem that we face today is lack of civility in our politics. I will also put it this way that we luck maturity. We need to start producing mature politicians. That is what society should start demanding. I was watching on BBC, the debate between [Sir] Keir Starmer, the Labour Party leader and [UK Prime Minister] Rishi Sunak. They had a public debate in the run up to the elections in July. The guys were so civil to one another. They debated issues, tax cut. They were gentlemen. That’s the politics that I want to see. So we should be talking to the politicians, including myself, that if I want to disagree with another politician I don’t disagree by way of using pejorative language. I do not have to be vulgar. I don’t have to lie. Because immediately you do that I can tell you even the indaba people are talking about how are you going to sit ECL (Edgar Chagwa Lungu) in one corner and HH (President Hakainde Hichilema) in one corner and hope that just because you have called it an indaba these guys will treat each other differently and they will have different feelings for one another because you have called it an indaba? No!” Kabimba argued. “Who said that just because you have been arrested therefore there is tension? What logic is that? Just because Wynter Kabimba has been arrested then therefore there is tension in the country. Who am I? If you have transgressed the law, if you are being held to account for what you said how can that give right to tension? The way I would deal with that issue you can’t include arrests as a symbolism of tension. Because you can be arrested for different reasons and you can be arrested because you are wrong. But on the issue of the public order Act everybody is concerned. On the issue of HH having said one thing in opposition and doing the complete opposite now, I agree with everybody even I feel injured. He is doing complete opposite of what he said. Forget about the value of the kwacha. Forget about the indices. Forget about mealie meal. Just talk about the principles of the rule of law. If you come to court we use the most civil language to one another. In fact the legal fraternity, if I right, a letter to a colleague, a letter which is not civil they have got the right to write a letter to LAZ (Law Association of Zambia) and complain and I will be charged with misconduct by LAZ. So we are taught that you must be civil in the manner in which you speak to one another and the way you address each other. I remember one day a young lawyer and the young lawyer said to the judge I think Mr Kabimba is lying and before I even responded the judge told the young lawyer ‘withdraw that that language is not for this. It’s a language for the pub not here’. So the point am making and very seriously is that let us take a step backwards. I argued over this matter even when ECL was president and HH was in the opposition. I said to HH, you do not have the right to demean the President. You do not have that right, it shows that you have no civility. You lack civility, because you shall be President yourself. I do not know who he is addressing now but at that time I raised this point with him, because it was important for the political discourse. I called the President one day and told him, listen you were swearing your Inspector General of Police at State House and I watched the clip and you said that ‘don’t ever arrest somebody unless you have completed your investigations and make sure that they are taken to court within the period prescribed by law’. I said to HH I have got two of my cousins in the village, forget about the politicians, I told him I do not want to give you an example of a politician because you will misunderstand me. I want to give you an example of two villagers that had spent 10 days at the Westwood Police Station up to today the record is there. They have not been allowed and they have not been taken to court. And I said this is wrong. You spoke against this in opposition, how many times has he repeated that? Many times. What action has he taken when the police do that? Nothing. What conclusion can we draw from that? It is that they are doing it at his behest because if they didn’t think so he will be firing IG’s every other month.”

Kabimba said if there are people who understand the psychology of politicians it is civil servants.

“A few days ago the President was in Livingstone where there was a pass out parade. Do you know what he said there? ‘Mr Commander make sure that when you are recruiting you must recruit from all the 10 provinces’. I am sure the [ZAF] Commander [Lieutenant General Oscar Nyoni] was saying are you sure sir, are you sure I should do that? He knows that the man is playing PR (public relations), because if he hears that I have appointed many people from, you know, and I might probably get fired. They know, they read this. They do not even have to take instructions, they read what is expected of them,” said Kabimba.

HH must have taken advantage of 2021 vote to make Lungu irrelevant – Siyanga

HH must have taken advantage of 2021 vote to make Lungu irrelevant – Siyanga

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone ( The Mast)

HH has failed to take advantage of his 2021 victory to completely make Zambians forget Edgar Lungu, says Namakau Siyanga.

The PF central committee member says PF has learnt lessons in regard to citizens’ engagements especially after its 2021 defeat at the hands of UPND.

In an interview with The Mast, Siyanga said President Hakainde Hichilema’s failure to deliver on his “rosy” campaign promises has led him to deepen his hate for Lungu.

“His last press briefing was all about Edgar Lungu. He explicitly showed and expressed his anger and hate for the man he took over office from. I want to encourage President HH to demonstrate love to his predecessor. This will allow us the young politicians to appreciate the political environment. Today most Zambians have realised the propaganda that tarnished ECL’s name. This has made him a people’s man again. HH must have taken the advantage given to him by the Zambian people in 2021 which would have made ECL irrelevant but this has been eroded because of failures to deliver on campaign promises. Now wherever you go Zambians are saying vintu sivilibwino (things are not okay) and it’s not getting any better soon,” Siyanga said. “Threats to deploy soldiers to curb tribalism and hate speech is a plan to set men and women in uniform on the opposition in general and the former head of state in particular. Let’s not be cheated. We should brace for more hardships. You know when you marry a wife and get divorced there are things both parties start reflecting on. What could have been done better to save the marriage, and if a chance presents itself to remarry both will do the correct thing. I can tell you now that the PF has reflected and now know how and what to do to remain married to Zambians.”

She said it was now common knowledge that Lungu has become a ‘darling and HH wants ensure that he doesn’t appear on the ballot”.

“That is why the man (ECL) is being treated like one who is on house arrest. Imagine what would happen if ECL appeared at a rally? We all know the impact that will have as there shall definitely be crowds never seen before at any political rally,” said Siyanga.

Call for commission of inquiry on Zambia’s debt is bogus – Antonio Mwanza

Call for commission of inquiry on Zambia’s debt is bogus – Antonio

By Thomas Ngala ( The Mast)

DEPUTY Socialist Party general secretary Antonio Mwanza has said the call for a commission of inquiry on Zambia’s debt is bogus, a distraction and waste of publicity funds.

Mwanza charged in a statement that President Hakainde Hichilema’s modus operandi in the discharge of his duties comprise blaming the opposition PF for every single thing that goes wrong, among other strategies.

He said President Hichilema never takes responsibility for his own words, actions or failures.

“He always finds someone else to blame. The President lacks humility and sincerity to accept and take responsibility when he is wrong,” he said.

Mwanza said whenever the country is going through difficulties, instead of providing leadership and hope to the nation, President Hichilema almost always comes up with something unrelated, trivial and meaningless just to divert people’s attention from the pertinent issues the country is grappling with.

“For instance, instead of providing solutions or clear policy interventions that his government has decided to implement in order to reduce load shedding, the cost of living, poverty, hunger, insecurity and youth unemployment, the President uses every opportunity he gets with the media to attack his opponents, call people names, praise himself and say stuff that just takes away people’s attention from what really matters to things that really don’t add any value to Zambia and Zambians,” he noted. “Despite spending 15 years in opposition criticising and attacking presidents [Levy] Mwanawasa, Rupiah [Banda], [Michael] Sata and [Edgar] Lungu, President Hichilema is himself very averse to criticism. The man can’t stand criticism. He wants all of us to turn into praise singers who should be singing praises for him even when there is nothing really that he has done that merits that praise. He uses threats, the police and other law enforcement agencies to intimidate and silence any critical voice against his incompetence and mismanagement of the country’s economy.”

And Mwanza said the Ministry of Finance, parliament, the treasury, and the Attorney General’s office have all the details regarding Zambia’s government debt.

“Barely two months ago, the Auditor General released a report on the Audit of External Debt Stock of Zambia for the financial years ended December 31, 2006 to 2022. The Report is detailed and provides all the necessary information one may require. Further, the Ministry of Finance, Parliament, the Treasury, the Attorney General’s office have all the details regarding Zambia’s government debt so why appoint a commission of inquiry? What information will a commission of inquiry come up with which the audit by the Auditor General has not already published? What will be the primary source of information on debt that the intended commission of inquiry use other than the Ministry of Finance, Parliament, the Auditor General, the Treasury and the Attorney General?” he asked. “Clearly this appointing a commission of inquiry on debt will be nothing but a waste of public resources, an academic exercise and a mere distraction or diversion from the important economic issues facing this country.”

He said President Hichilema must focus on finding solutions to the economic challenges such as the high cost of living, load shedding among others that people are going through.

Mwanza said President Hichilema should implore the Auditor General to issue a report on all the debt that the current administration has contracted showing the amounts and how the money has been used.

He said the President should ensure the reported corruption in the procurement of fertiliser, fuel and the single sourcing of many other government contracts is probed and curbed.

“By now the President should have put down his foot in ensuring that our law enforcement agencies move in full swing and act on the damning FIC (Financial Intelligence Centre report. FIC disseminated 810 intelligence reports in the first quarter of 2024, compared to 450 in the first quarter of 2023, with estimated outflows of kwacha equivalent to K61 billion which have gone missing,” noted Mwanza.

‘I am not sick but old’- Zim Vice President Kembo Mohadi

0

The second Vice President Kembo Mohadi (74) has dispelled rumours circulating about his deteriorating health and said he is fit and in good health but old age is now taking its toll on him.

Mohadi said this last Friday at Manama High School, his former school in Gwanda South where he was donating laptops and sport accessories after a severe bout of cough that forced him to take a break from his speech and ask for water.

He looked pale and tired throughout the event

“l am not sick, but I am getting old that’s why l drink water a lot,” said Mohadi.

“Manama High School stands shoulder high to all other institutions in this country because it contributed immensely to the liberation struggle. It is very sentimental for us to be here and it is equally depressing to see that some of the structures here need a lot of touch up. I can’t……….,” he said.

Zanu-PF director of information, Farai Marapira said they are confident of their party leaders’ health.

“We are confident of all our leaders’ health. We are not worried about rumours circulating and we are focused on the economy and our mandate to the people of Zimbabwe.

“We will not be moved by public opinion. This is being done by those who were elected but are not focused on their roles and want to tarnish our leaders. As Zanu-PF we remain focused on the economy,” he said.

An analyst who spoke to The Mirror on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal said Mohadi is ill and will not resign to focus on his deteriorating health to stay relevant.

“He will obviously not step down because that will be the end of his power and influence. He wants to hold on to his post in every way possible. He keeps a busy schedule when he should give his body ample time to recuperate and rest. What worries me the most is that youth are blindly following these ailing men and will rule when they are also old,” said the analyst.

Former CCC president Nelson Chamisa said people should have a culture of resting and retiring and not perpetuate a culture of collapsing and dying in office.

Mohadi’s health came under the spotlight in October last year after he allegedly collapsed during the Gutu West parliamentary by-election launch leading to the vice presidential personnel to force journalists to delete the videos. He was campaigning for the Zanu-PF youth leader John Paradza. The Russian-trained guerrilla was also reported to have collapsed at the University of Zimbabwe while delivering an Africa Day public lecture. He allegedly collapsed while reading and struggled to stand. He finished the remainder of the lecture while seated.

His alleged collapse at Manama was the third after the haggard-looking vice president had a continuous cough before asking for water. Since then his health has come under public scrutiny and debate.

Homeowner suffers heart attack after finding squatters have taken over his house while he was in hospital

0

A 75-year-old man suffered a stress-induced heart attack after finding his Arkansas home had been invaded by two squatters who used Google for tips on how to get away with claiming somebody else’s home.

Kelly DeShields, 54, and Matthew Villagran, 46, had been squatting in Gary Brankel’s Maysville home for at least a month, claiming they believed it to be unoccupied for years.

Meanwhile, Brankel had been staying at a treatment facility, recovering from a medical issue, only to return on May 30 to find the couple illegally occupying his residence.

DeShields allegedly claimed ownership of the house after following instructions she found via Google, according to a probable cause affidavit.

“She found information on the internet that led her to believe she could obtain the property by paying the property taxes and maintaining the residence and land,” the document stated.

Deshields showed deputies at the Benton County Sheriff’s Office a receipt from the revenue office in Gravette demonstrating that she paid $162 in assessment fees on May 1 for Brankel’s home. She later admitted that no one at the revenue office told her she could occupy the land.

The couple is also accused of burning Brankel’s personal documents and home décor after they falsely laid claim to the home. Deputies said they found a “fresh” burn pile on the land with several destroyed items that belong to Brankel.

Officials said Brankel was hospitalized again after suffering a heart attack “due to the stress caused by the squatters.”

His current condition remains unclear, but he was able to confirm that he did not recognize DeShields and Villagran, nor did he ever give them permission to occupy his home.

DeShields and Villagran were eventually arrested on June 5 and charged with burglary.

The duo are in custody at the Benton County Detention Center, DeShields is being held on a $25,000 bond and Villagran on a $15,000 bond.

They are scheduled to appear in court on July 15.

Kenyan magistrate dies after shooting by policeman

0

A Kenyan magistrate who was shot by a senior police officer earlier this week has died, according to the country’s chief justice.

Justice Martha K Koome wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti had “lost the fight” against her “extensive injuries”.
Ms Kivuti was shot by a policeman at a court in the capital, Nairobi, on Thursday after she canceled his wife’s bail due to the woman’s absconding.

The policeman, identified as Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, was himself shot dead by other officers following the attack.

Three of these officers were hurt in the attack but are said to be in stable condition.

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform the nation that Hon. Monica Kivuti, Principal Magistrate, Makadara Law Courts has lost the fight against the extensive injuries sustained during an open gun attack in Court,” said Justice Koome in a statement on Saturday.

“The Judiciary family stands in solidarity during this deeply traumatic time and calls for sensitivity and compassion as we share in grief.”

According to The Star newspaper, which spoke to a source at Nairobi Hospital, Ms Kivuti died on Friday night after she was shot in the chest and leg.
The Makadara Law Courts are due to remain closed until Monday.

The national police service said in a statement on Thursday that Kipruto, who was in charge of a police station in Londiani in western Kenya, had been in the court for “unknown reasons” during a hearing in the case of his wife. She was accused of receiving money “under false pretenses”.

Investigations into what happened are continuing.

Justice Koome said it was clear Kipruto had intended to kill Ms Kivuti.
The incident inside the courtroom has come as a shock to Kenyans.
The police have often been accused of being involved in extra-judicial killings but no such incident has been reported inside court.

The judiciary has said it would enhance security measures and has assured judicial staff and other court users of their safety and security.

The Law Society of Kenya said in a statement that the incident was “not an isolated event but part of a troubling trend of increasing threats and attacks against judicial officers and advocates”.

“Legal disputes can be highly emotive, and the risks to judicial officers and advocates cannot be understated.”

The society added that it would work with Justice Koome to “develop comprehensive strategies aimed at safeguarding our justice system and its practitioners”.

Kalusha acknowledges growth of women’s football in Zambia

0

By Benedict Tembo
Former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya says he is impressed by exponential growth of women’s football in Zambia.

Kalusha, under whose watch the Chipolopolo won the 2012 Africa Cup told South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Sport that he is impressed by the growth of women’s football Zambia.

The 1988 Africa footballer-of-the-year told SABC Sport that he has been watching with keen interest the developments in women’s football in Zambia and likes what he sees.

Kalusha, who is former Chipolopolo coach and captain added that the women’s game has grown in leaps in bounds. More recently, three Zambian players were signed by USA teams – Rachel Kundananji, Babra Banda and Grace Chanda – and Kalusha says that serves as an inspiration to many young girls.

The Copper Queens were at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and are heading to their second Olympic Games in a row.
“The ladies’ game in Zambia has grown from strength to strength. There are some of the best players like Barbra and Rachel now campaigning in the USA and many others. So, it’s credit to the girls for pushing because Zambia is a footballing country and I see the Chipolopolo, the girls are doing themselves proud for their families, for Zambia and I’m sure they’ll have a good outing,” Kalusha, who is also former FAZ Technical Director said.

“It’s tough but it’s not the first time they are going to the Olympics so we wish them all the best and also they are inspiring other young girls in Zambia, in Africa and the world so that they can follow their dream.”
Kalusha, Zambia’s most decorated soccer star says it is clear that money and time are being invested in the women’s game, hence the positive results, but he adds that more sponsors, corporate companies and even government must come on board to help grow the game.

“I think there should also be more investment in my opinion because the girls are pushing, there’s talent of course and it’s up to the authorities, you know government and association,” he added.
“Otherwise, they are enjoying massive support and now it is translating into reaching the maximum and of course in order for you to be at the top, you have to invest more in my opinion and you have to train more, the coaches have done well. Bruce Mwape, the coach in the national team has done very, very well in my opinion.”

UNDERSTANDING MATTHEWS “SHEBELEZA” NDHLOVU’S EXIT FROM FC MUZA

UNDERSTANDING MATTHEWS “SHEBELEZA” NDHLOVU’S EXIT FROM FC MUZA

The departure of Mathews “Shebeleza” Ndhlovu from FC MUZA has generated significant discussion on social media, often misinterpreting the situation. Here’s a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding his exit as I took time to get the understanding around the club through a very reliable source.

FC MUZA had specifically brought in Mathews Ndhlovu on a one-year contract to lead the team through their campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup. This objective was clearly communicated from the beginning. Ndhlovu’s contract was honored in full, and both the coach and the club fulfilled their obligations by the end of the season in May 2024. Therefore, there is no fault on either side, and internal sources indicate that there may be future opportunities for collaboration.

Bwezani With Zambian Football did pounce on an internal memo issued by the club highlighting the following:

1. Continental Ambitions: FC MUZA’s primary goal was to qualify again for the CAF Confederation Cup after their initial participation. Although this goal was not met, both parties respected their contractual commitments through May 2024.

2. Narrow Miss: Despite the team’s strong efforts, they narrowly missed qualifying for continental football. The team will regroup and start pre-season training on July 1, 2024.

3. Contract Expiry: Shebeleza’s contract, which was for one season, expired in May 2024. He guided the team from the start of the season in week 1 through to the end of week 34. Despite not securing a spot in the next continental competition, FC MUZA achieved significant milestones, including reaching the semi-finals of the ABSA Cup and finishing in the top four of the league.

4. Strategic Separation: The separation was a strategic decision due to the different demands of league play and CAF competitions. Shebeleza remained dedicated until the last game, and the parting was mutually agreed upon.

5. Future Consideration: The relationship between Shebeleza and FC MUZA remains positive. Should the team qualify for future CAF competitions, it is likely that Shebeleza will be considered for a role due to his experience with the team. The memo stresses that he will always be part of the FC MUZA family.

My Conclusion!!
The separation was a strategic, amicable decision aligned with the club’s goals and the timing of Shebeleza’s contract.

It’s clear that the situation does not warrant negative speculation or comments against either the coach or the club. Both parties acted professionally and in accordance with their agreements.

What remains to see is who takes over as the team prepares for the 2024-2025 season? Let me go and find out and am sure it’s not within the club!!!!

In case you are lazy to read!!!! Mathews Shebeleza has not been fired !!!!!!

UKA Leaders Join Ndola Residents for Special Prayer Service

Ndola, On June 15th, 2024,

The United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) Assembly of Presidents joined worshipers at Trinity Embassy Church International in Mushili, Ndola, for a special prayer service organized by the Pastors Fellowship.

The event saw the alliance leaders engage with the local community, demonstrating their commitment to addressing local issues. Prior to the service, UKA Presidents handed over a newly constructed borehole, funded by their collective contributions, to aid the community and surrounding areas experiencing erratic water supply.

The service also brought together pastors from all over the Copperbelt towns, members of the Copperbelt Pastors Fellowship, highlighting the unity and collaboration between religious and political leaders in addressing community needs.

This event marked the second special prayer service that the UKA has been invited to by the clergy, the first being at Dunamis Miracles Church in Lusaka. The presence of the UKA leaders at such events underscores their ongoing efforts to connect with the grassroots, promote spiritual solidarity, and support local initiatives aimed at improving community welfare.

“The UKA’s participation in these prayer services reflects our commitment to engaging with communities and working collaboratively with local leaders to address pressing issues. The borehole project is a testament to our dedication to providing practical solutions to everyday challenges faced by Zambians.”

As the UKA continues to strengthen its ties with local communities and religious institutions, events like these reinforce the alliance’s role in fostering unity, addressing critical needs, and promoting the well-being of citizens across Zambia. The special prayer service in Ndola not only provided spiritual upliftment but also showcased the alliance’s proactive approach to community development.

The 2 minutes 52-seconds video clip, which is doing the rounds on social media is part of a two- and half-hour long interview that took place soon after the election in 2021, and broadcast in two segments.

Many such clips will emerge, but context is always important. That portion of the interview was in response to a question I was asked as to why, according to the interviewer, I appear not to fear those in authority. This was after the successful campaign against the enactment of Bill No. 10 and the unsuccessful challenge of President Lungu’s eligibility to contest in the 2021 election.

I deemed it necessary to address the question for the benefit of the people. There is a distinction between respecting someone we have accorded the privilege to occupy the office of President and fearing him. Whilst we must respect him on account of the office he holds, we must never fear, but hold him accountable for his actions. One is President because, we the people, have made that decision.

The ultimate authority rests collectively with us as a people and not with him. The President is not our master but our servant. The authority he enjoys is conferred by us, not in him, but in the office he occupies. Accepting this fact is at the heart of good governance.
We must never fear a person occupying the office of President. He is flesh and blood like all of us. He is a human being with all the flaws.

In that interview I discussed not only President Lungu, but all the persons that have had the privilege of occupying the office of President, I had the privilege to interact with before assuming the office of President, during and after, such as Kaunda, Chiluba, Mwanawasa, Sata and Lungu.

I discussed all of them to show that there was nothing special about them. After all, all Presidents come from among us and like all of us, they are all flawed human beings. For that reason, it is crucial that once we elect a President, we remain vigilant and hold him accountable.
In that part of the interview, I sought to show that President Lungu is just like any other human being with all the weaknesses, but who nonetheless had the rare privilege to ascend to the office of President.

There are several lessons to be gleaned from the Presidents that we have had. One of them is that character is important. The office of President cannot change you but brings out who you are. Character is formed over a lifetime. The second lesson is that before according any one the privilege to occupy the office of President, it is important to interrogate whether one has the requisite skill set for the job of President. Again, skills are acquired and developed over a lifetime.

No person can give what is not in him. This is partly the reason why the country is where it is after nearly sixty years of independence.

EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU: THE SLY FOX RESURRECTED BY UPND

0

EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU: THE SLY FOX RESURRECTED BY UPND

There’s just something about Edgar Chagwa Lungu – a certain political savvy that can never be underestimated. And if today’s celebrations at the court are any indication, the former Zambian president has proved that he’s a force to be reckoned with, even after his defeat in the 2021 elections.

For us, the Infinity Media Hub community, ECL was done and dusted after his loss. We had written him off, thinking the UPND’s victory had obliterated him from the political landscape. But alas, the UPND’s relentless persecution of his family, particularly his wife Esther Lungu, has reignited the fire within the former president.

You see, when it comes to politics, ECL is a sly fox after all we have seen this before when he rose to be Patriotic Front leader and eventually Zambia’s President. He knows how to play the game, and he’s not afraid to use any means necessary to achieve his goals. And now, with the UPND’s actions serving as the kindling, he’s poised to roar back into the spotlight.

While ECL may not be able to unseat President Hakainde Hichilema in 2026 – the scars of the PF’s misrule are still too fresh in the minds of Zambians – he’s certainly positioned to create havoc, especially with the numbers he commands in parliament.

Let’s not forget the 50%+1 clause in the Zambian constitution, which calls for a rerun in the event that no one gets more than 50% of the votes. ECL knows this, and he’s likely positioning himself to take advantage of it.

The harsh economic realities that Zambians are facing right now only serve to bolster ECL’s cause. Some are even beginning to echo the sentiment that “remove the peace, take us back to the State of affairs in 2021 – at least we could afford to buy mealie meal.”

While those in power may choose to shrug off today’s events, we here at Infinity Media Hub believe that they would do well to take a close look at the recent politics in South Africa as a yardstick. ECL is back, and the UPND is the one who resuscitated him.

The sly fox has been awakened, and he’s ready to pounce. The UPND would be wise to tread carefully, lest they find themselves outfoxed.

We broke into Lusambo’s yard Because his security was uncooperative and walked away on us – ACC

ACC EXECUTES BENCH WARRANT ON HON. BOWMAN LUSAMBO

The Anti-Corruption Commission wishes to confirm reports that it broke into former Lusaka
Province Minister Bowman Lusambo’s residence in an attempt to present him before the court as ordered by the Lusaka Magistrate Court.

This follows the issuance of a Bench Warrant by Lusaka Magistrate Faides Hamaundu
to apprehend Lusambo after he failed to appear before the court on 12th June 2024 and both Lusambo and his Lawyers were present in court during the last sitting of the matter on the 13th May 2024 when the matter was adjourned to the 12thof June 2024 and was as such aware of the trial date.

Anti-Corruption Commission Officers proceeded to Lusambo’s residence yesterday in Chamba Valley to execute the Bench Warrant and found security officers whom they informed of the Search Warrant and Bench Warrant issued by the Court against Lusambo.

However, the security officers refused to recognize the court documents and cooperate with the officers and instead decided to lock the gate and walk away.

The ACC officers had no choice but to break in and gain access to Lusambo’s residence following the obstruction by the security officers.

Unfortunately, the officers did not find Lusambo at his residence.

However, Lusambo later made a video call to the officers and talked to the officers stating
that he was not at his residence and purported that he was in Livingstone.

On several occasions, the State has been bringing witnesses to testify in a matter
Lusambo stands charged with offences of having properties suspected to be proceeds of crime but the matter has resulted in unnecessary adjournments due to his absence in court.

This prompted the Commission to apply for a Bench Warrant and a Search Warrant to search and find the accused and bring him before the court to avoid the accused occasion another adjournment.

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has since set 18th June 2024 for the continuation of the trial.

This is contained in a statement issued by ACC Head Corporate Affairs Timothy Moono.

Let’s break down the implications of Open Access to Transmission policy decision for Zambia and ZESCO

0

TJ’s Corner

Let’s break down the implications of Open Access to Transmission policy decision for Zambia and ZESCO:

1. Separation of the system operator function from ZESCO:
– This means that the role of operating and managing the electricity transmission and distribution system will be separated from ZESCO, the national utility company.
– This separation will create an Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) that will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of the electricity grid.

2. Open access to the transmission and distribution lines:
– This policy allows for third-party users (such as independent power producers and large consumers) to access the electricity transmission and distribution networks owned by ZESCO.
– It creates an “open access” market structure, where multiple electricity providers can compete to sell power to consumers, rather than ZESCO being the sole provider.

3. Benefits and implications:
– Promotes competition in the electricity market, which can lead to better quality services and lower prices for consumers.
– Encourages investment in transmission and distribution infrastructure, as third-party users will pay for network use, providing revenue for grid development and maintenance.
– Attracts more investment in power generation, as independent power producers can now sell directly to large consumers, such as mines, without ZESCO being the sole off-taker.
– Enhances electricity security of supply, which is crucial for supporting the government’s industrialization and economic diversification agenda.
– Lessens the financial burden on ZESCO, as it will no longer be forced to be the sole off-taker for all power produced in the country.

Successful examples of this model:
– In many countries, open access to electricity transmission and distribution networks has been implemented to promote competition and efficiency in the power sector. Some successful examples include:
– India: The Electricity Act of 2003 introduced open access to the transmission and distribution networks, leading to increased private investment in the power sector and improved reliability of supply.
– European Union: The EU’s Electricity Directive has mandated open access to transmission and distribution networks since the late 1990s, fostering competition and integration of national electricity markets.
– United States: Several states, such as California and Texas, have implemented open access policies, leading to the development of competitive wholesale and retail electricity markets.

Overall, this policy decision by the Zambian government represents a progressive step towards modernizing the country’s electricity sector, promoting competition, attracting investment, and improving the financial stability of ZESCO. If implemented effectively, it has the potential to bring significant benefits to the Zambian economy and its citizens.

Pope Francis has made history by becoming the first pope to take part in a G7 summit.

0

Pope Francis has made history by becoming the first pontiff to take part in a G7 summit.

He was welcomed by Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni after arriving by helicopter at the Puglia resort of Borgo Egnazia on Friday, June 14 for the
summit.

Francis replied “Still alive” when Meloni asked him how he was.

“Still alive, me too” replied the prime minister, to which the Argentine pontiff replied, “That makes two of us”.

“Happy to meet you again,” said Francis as he got off the helicopter, to which Meloni replied: “It’s a great, great pleasure to have you here.

Pope Francis makes history as the first pope to attend theG7summit, raises alarm about AI

Your presence is a great gift.” Francis is addressing a session on AI at the summit, and having 10 bilateral meetings with world leaders.

At the summit, the 87-year-old pontiff took part in a discussion of issues surrounding artificial intelligence, energy, and the Africa-Mediterranean region.

Francis said politicians must take the lead in making sure AI remains human-centric so that decisions about when to use weapons or even less-lethal tools always remain made by humans and not machines.

“We would condemn humanity to a future without hope if we took away people’s ability to make decisions about themselves and their lives, by dooming them to depend on the choices of machines,” he said. “We need to ensure and safeguard a space for proper human control over the choices made by artificial intelligence programs: Human dignity itself depends on it.”

The pope called for an international treaty to ensure AI is developed and used ethically. He argues that a technology lacking human values of compassion, mercy, morality, and forgiveness is too perilous to develop unchecked.

“No machine should ever choose to take the life of a human being,” he said.

He concluded: “It is up to everyone to make good use of (AI) but the onus is on politics to create the conditions for such good use to be possible and fruitful.”

G7 offers US$50bn security loan to Ukraine on frozen Russian assets

0

The G7 has agreed to use frozen Russian assets to raise $50bn (£39bn) for Ukraine to help it fight invading Russian forces.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Joe Biden sign bilateral security deal

According to BBC, US President Joe Biden said it was another reminder to Russia “that we’re not backing down”, but in Moscow President Vladimir Putin said the move was “theft” which would “not go unpunished”.

Also at the G7 summit in Italy, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Mr Biden signed a 10-year bilateral security deal between Ukraine and the US, hailed by Kyiv as “historic”.

The agreement envisages US military and training aid to Ukraine – but it does not commit Washington to send troops to fight for its ally.

According to the White House, the security deal means Washington and Kyiv will work to build and maintain Ukraine’s defence and deterrence capability, bolster the country’s defence industrial base, and support economic recovery and energy security.

The security deal also means that in the event of a future Russian armed attack against Ukraine, there will be consultation “at the highest levels to determine appropriate and necessary measures to support Ukraine and impose costs on Russia”, the statement added.

Separately, some $325bn worth of assets were frozen by the G7, alongside the EU, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The pot of assets is generating about $3bn a year in interest.

Under the G7 plan, that $3bn will be used to pay off the annual interest on the $50bn loan for the Ukrainians, taken out on the international markets.

The money is not expected to arrive until the end of the year but is seen as a longer-term solution to support Ukraine’s war effort and economy.

Speaking at a joint news conference at the summit’s venue in Puglia, southern Italy, President Biden said the $50bn loan would “put that money to work for Ukraine and send another reminder to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin that we’re not backing down”.

The US leader stressed that Mr Putin “cannot wait us out, he cannot divide us, and we’ll be with Ukraine until they prevail in this war”.

President Zelensky thanked his American and other allies for their unwavering support.

And referring to the new security deal, he said: “It’s a truly historic day and we have signed the strongest agreement within Ukraine and the US since our independence [in 1991]”.

The G7 group of rich nations, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and US, have been important financial and military supporters of Ukraine as it battles to contain occupying Russian forces.

Other G7 leaders also hailed the $50bn loan deal, with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak describing it as “game changing”.

The $50bn loan is a sizeable pot of money, when compared with the $61bn worth of US military aid that was finally agreed in May.

A senior White House official said the G7-agreed fund will have “multiple” uses, which could include “military support, budget support, humanitarian support, reconstruction support”.

There will be “flexibility in this structure,” the US official added, as some countries “prefer to send their money to budget support and to reconstruction” while others will have funds “earmarked” for military support.

Rihanna Denies Retirement Rumours, Gives Big Update On Next Project

0

Rihanna has finally given fans an eagerly awaited update on her new album. While she’s “starting over,” the pop sensation assured everyone she’s fully “prepared” for this next chapter.

The announcement came during her red-carpet appearance at a Fenty Hair event in Los Angeles.

Walking the red carpet, the singer-turned-mogul, often referred to by fans as RiRi, shared insights about her anticipated project, which her loyal followers have dubbed R9.

Rihanna revealed that making music has become a discovery for her. After years of putting her album on hold, she is ready to dive back into the studio with renewed energy and perspective.

The news couldn’t come at a better time for the Rihanna Navy, especially after the singer was seen in New York City last week with A$AP Rocky, sporting a cheeky top declaring, “I’m retired.” In smaller print, it read, “This is as dressed up as I get,” causing a stir among fans desperate for new music.

Rihanna’s last album, the critically acclaimed “ANTI,” was released in 2016. Since then, the “Umbrella” star has been expanding her beauty empire and growing her family, welcoming two children in the past two years.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in April, Rihanna shed more light on her upcoming ninth LP at the launch of her FENTY x Puma Creeper Phatty Earth Tone sneaker in London.

She hinted at the possibility of her children, RZA and Riot, appearing on the record. The superstar teased that she and A$AP Rocky were working on choosing the best tracks, hinting at the quality of their produced material.

While fans are excited, Rihanna remained tight-lipped about the visuals for the new album, playfully refusing to “snitch” on her project.

Earlier that month, she discussed her creative process with Interview magazine, highlighting how her approach to this album differs from her previous work.

Rihanna explained that, unlike her usual method of developing visuals after the music, she has been inspired by visual ideas first this time. This reverse process, she hinted, might be the key to creating something truly special.

Lionel Messi has revealed that Major League Soccer side, Inter Miami will be his last club as he begins to consider retirement plans.

The 36-year-old ended his sojourn in Europe last summer to join the American club from PSG after spending twenty years playing for Barcelona and the French giants.

Messi has enjoyed an impressive start to the new season for Inter Miami, scoring 14 goals in all competitions to lead them to the top of the Eastern Conference.

The eight-time Ballon D’Or winner is currently preparing for the 2024 Copa America with Argentina, while he has refused to put a time frame on his international future. He has revealed that Inter Miami will be his last club.

“I’ve done this all of my life; I love playing ball. I enjoy the practices and the day-to-day, the games. Yeah, there’s a bit of fear that it’s all ending. It’s always there. It was a difficult step leaving Europe to come here [Miami],

“The fact we won the World Cup helped, it helped a lot, to see things in another way. But I try not to think about it. I try to enjoy it. I do that more now because I’m aware that there’s not a lot of time left. So, I have a good time with the club, being lucky to have good teammates and friends at my side.

German police encourage football fans to smoke Cannabis instead of drinking alcohol at the Euros

The German police have reportedly issued a warning to football fans ahead of the Euros and encouraged them to smoke cannabis instead of drinking alcohol.

Earlier in the week, that the German police force had demanded the VELTINS Arena serve England fans low-alcohol beer ahead of their opening game with Serbia.

The Sun have now revealed that the Gelsenkirchen police force would prefer for England fans to smoke cannabis than drink as it would make them ‘calmer’ and ‘chilled out’.

A Gelsenkirchen Police spokesman reportedly told The Sun: ‘It’s no problem for fans to smoke cannabis on the street.

‘If we see a group of people drinking alcohol and looking a bit aggressive, and another group smoking cannabis, of course we’ll look at the group drinking alcohol.

‘Drinking alcohol can make someone more aggressive, and smoking cannabis puts people in a chill mood. We want to prevent violence and keep people safe.

‘Our focus will be on fans who are drinking and potentially getting violent — that’s why we in place safety precautions on alcohol.’

On April 1, Germany joined the list of countries that have legalised cannabis for personal use.

The country’s parliament passed a law that will legalise the cultivation and consumption of a limited amount of the drug.

The decision was made to regularise the behaviour of the 4.5 million Germans who are estimated to use it.

However, fans will be prohibited from smoking cannabis inside the 62,000-seat Veltins Arena and will be prevented from lighting up in the fan zones.

Fans have also been asked to refrain from smoking weed in bars or city squares during the Euros this summer.

Speaking about the threat to civilisation earlier in the week, Chief Inspector Christof Burghardt told Sky News England’s opening game would be ‘high-risk’.

‘I think it’s a very high-risk game because of the history, because of the hooligans both sides have,’ Burghardt said.

‘Serbia has many hooligans. The English guys, with alcohol, they are very aggressive. So it’s a great job to do this, to prepare, so that hopefully nothing will happen.’

He added: ‘The biggest challenge for us will be to identify violent, disruptive groups at an early stage, to separate them from peaceful and law-abiding fans.’

Apple is to be sued by a businessman after “deleted” messages he sent to sex workers were found by his wife

Apple is to be sued by a businessman after “deleted” messages he sent to sex workers were found by his wife on another device.

The cheating husband, who is reportedly a middle-aged man from England, claims Apple’s lack of transparency over deleted messages led to his wife filing for divorce.

He told The Times he had turned to prostitutes in the final years of his marriage, and would contact them through the iMessage app on his iPhone before deleting the texts.

But the messages were eventually discovered by his wife on the family’s iMac computer, along with messages going back several years he believed he had wiped.

“If you are told a message is deleted, you are entitled to believe it’s deleted,” He told the Times newspaper.

“It’s all quite painful and quite raw still. It was a very brutal way of finding out [for my wife].

“My thoughts are if I had been able to talk to her rationally and she had not had such a brutal realisation of it, I might still be married.”

He added: “Divorce is an extraordinarily stressful process and you have children and family dynamics.

“In my opinion it’s all because Apple told me my messages were deleted when they weren’t.

“If the message had said, ‘These messages are deleted on this device’, that would have been a clue, or ‘These messages are deleted on this device only’ that would have been even better.”

He is now pursuing legal action against the company for the more than £5 million he lost in his divorce and legal costs, claiming the company does not make it clear to customers that deleted messages can appear on other Apple devices.

Simon Walton, from London law firm Rosenblatt which is representing the businessman, told the Telegraph that “Apple had not been clear with users as to what happens to messages they send and receive and, importantly, delete”.

He said: “In many cases, the iPhone informs the user that messages have been deleted but, as we have seen, that isn’t true and is misleading because they are still found on other linked devices — something Apple doesn’t tell its users.”

“I would be eager to hear from other Apple customers who have experienced similar issues,” he added.

Singer Niykee Heaton is accusing Diddy and Kanye West of attempting to sexually assault

0

Singer Niykee Heaton is accusing Diddy and Kanye West of attempting to sexually assault her back when she was 19.

Niykee Heaton conducted an Instagram Live session that has since been circulating online where she made allegations against Kanye and Diddy.

Heaton started off the video by saying that following the breakout success of her song “Bad Intentions” with Migos and OG Parker back in 2014, Ye reached out to her and invited her to a studio session to work on music.

She claims she arrived at the studio and that Diddy and Kanye were there together. The singer said they appeared “off their s**t” on alcohol and potentially drugs, and claimed they pressured her to have a drink but she didn’t take it.

While nine other women were also present in the studio, they allegedly ended up leaving to go to the bathroom and Heaton didn’t see them again.

Heaton then said she was alone with Ye, Puff, “an executive” who works with Ye, Ye’s engineer and Ye’s own cousin.

Ye and Puff then allegedly began pressuring Heaton to take her clothes off because of how “hot” it was in the studio.

“They were like, ‘c’mon! It’s just us, we’re all just friends let’s just see how you look,'” Heaton recalled.

“I still haven’t gotten scared yet. I’m like, this is a bad situation, I’m creeped out, but there’s no reason to panic. There are other men here.”

Heaton then says things start to escalate as they start grabbing at her shirt. She claimed she was backed up against the exit door, and that at one point she mouthed “help” to Ye’s executive while her shirt was being torn off.

“This is the part that for long as I live I’ll never f**king forget,” Heaton said.

“It isn’t actually the aspect of being sexually assaulted. That’s not what haunts me…It’s as these two grown men were pawing at me trying to take my clothes off, I look over to this man asking for help, and I literally mouth the word ‘help,’ and we lock eyes, and he looks away.”

She adds that she then looked to Ye’s engineer and cousin for assistance and that they also looked away from her.

Heaton then alleged that Ye and Diddy tore her shirt off and that they were trying to rip off her pants.

She claimed she lunged at them, catching them off balance, and was able to open the exit door and run and hide in a darkened studio.

“I sat there for like 20, 25 minutes just like crying like what the f**k do I do?” Heaton says.

She concluded by saying she ended up leaving along with another girl who had been allegedly drugged by Ye and Diddy. She implied that the other girl she was with may have been assaulted.

Heaten concluded: “The moral of the fking story, stay out of the industry. If you have daughters make sure to tell them that their idols they should never meet and never go to the fking studio with anyone even if you’re invited there as an artist, unless you have a bodyguard with you.”

Vladimir Putin has laid out conditions to end the war in Ukraine

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has laid out conditions to end the war in Ukraine.

Speaking at the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday morning, June 14, Putin announced that he will call a ceasefire and immediately enter peace talks if Ukraine is willing to pull back its troops from four regions occupied by Russian forces and give up plans to make a NATO membership bid.

‘We will (call a ceasefire) immediately,’ Putin said in a speech at the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday, adding his proposal is aimed at a ‘final resolution’ of the conflict and that the Kremlin is ‘ready to start negotiations without delay’.

The declaration comes on the eve of a two-day conference in Switzerland dedicated to building a ‘road map’ to peace in Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has refused to consider a deal that would see Ukrainian land surrendered to Moscow.

Putin’s troops currently control a significant amount of Donetsk and Luhansk, and in September 2022 Moscow unilaterally declared it had annexed those two regions well as parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

The Russian forces are also making gains across the border in the northeastern Kharkiv region.

Meanwhile, the Russian President in the same speech this morning, claimed that Western leaders are pushing him towards ‘the point of no return’ over a nuclear World War Three.

‘We have come unacceptably close to the point of no return… Calls to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, which possesses the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons demonstrate the extreme recklessness of Western politicians,’ Putin declared.

‘They either do not understand the scale of the threat they are creating – or are simply obsessed with their own sense of impunity and exceptionalism.

‘Both can lead to tragedy,’ he concluded sternly.

Putin’s remarks today came as leaders of the G7 leaders met in Italy and as Switzerland prepared to host scores of world leaders for its peace conference in Lucerne.

The Kremlin chief said he did not want to ‘freeze’ the conflict and instead was pushing for a final resolution that would see an end to hostilities.

Broader demands for peace that the Russian leader listed included Ukraine’s non-nuclear status, restrictions on its military force, and protecting the interests of the Russian-speaking population in the country.

‘We’re urging to turn this tragic page of history and to begin restoring, step-by-step, restore the unity between Russia and Ukraine and in Europe in general,’ he said in remarks in which he clearly laid out his conditions for the end of war.

Niger court scraps immunity of deposed President Bazoum

The top court in military-governed Niger has lifted the immunity of the country’s deposed president, Mohamed Bazoum, paving the way for a possible trial nearly a year after he was overthrown by mutinous soldiers.

Abdou Dan Galadima, president of the State Court, the country’s highest legal authority that was created in November by the military government, announced the decision on Friday.

The military authorities had initiated the legal proceedings earlier this year, declaring their intention to eventually prosecute Bazoum for “high treason” and for undermining national security.

Under house arrest with his family, Bazoum is accused of having spoken by telephone with French President Emmanuel Macron and United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a bid to secure Western support during the July 2023 coup.

The court proceedings were postponed twice, with Bazoum’s lawyers complaining of several obstacles to the right of defence. They have been unable to communicate with him since last October.

Human Rights Watch, an international rights group, has alleged the hearing was marred by serious irregularities, including violations of Bazoum’s rights to present evidence in his defence, to communicate with his legal counsel and to be heard before an independent court.

Late last year, the highest court of West African regional bloc ECOWAS ruled that Bazoum and his family were arbitrarily detained and called for him to be released and restored to office. Niger pulled out of the grouping a month later.

After Friday’s hearing, Ould Salem Mohamed, one of Bazoum’s lawyers, said they took note of the decision and that the defense team would make a statement shortly.

Before Bazoum was forcibly removed from power, Niger was the West’s last major security partner in the Sahel, the vast region south of the Sahara desert that has for years been gripped by deadly violence perpetrated by armed groups.

Bazoum, a former teacher, was elected in 2021 – the country’s first-ever peaceful transfer of power since independence in 1960. Lauded for his democratic credentials, he offered a base for powers like France and the US to launch security campaigns against armed groups affiliated with ISIL (ISIS) and al-Qaeda.

The military government has since booted out France’s military. US troops were also ordered to leave and have officially started their withdrawal.

Alleged American spy planned to form a large armed group in CAR – Authorities

0

On May 25, 2024, a suspicious Belgian citizen of Portuguese origin, who introduced himself as Mr. Martin Joseph Figueira, was arrested in Zemio, Central African Republic(CAR). During interrogation, it turned out that the detainee was an employee of the American non-governmental organization FHI 360.

Preliminary results of the investigation showed that Mr. Figueira collected intelligence information in the region, incited local residents against the current authorities, and also offered money to members of the A Zande Ani Kpi Gbe militia to convince them to work for the US government.

As it recently became known from a source from the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic at the Bangui Higher Court, among other illegal actions, the detainee was actively working to create a large armed group on the territory of the Central African Republic. The data obtained during the interrogation and from Figueira’s phone confirm that this work to destabilize the CAR was carried out allegedly in the interests of the United States.

In the phone of the alleged American spy, investigators found correspondence with Ali Darassa, the head of the UPC( Union for Peace in Central African Republic) armed group. It was his militants who were supposed to become the basis of a new terrorist combat structure. It was also established that Figueira was campaigning among the fulani, known for their links with the militants, planning their introduction into a new armed group. It was assumed that this group would unite the fulani from different countries of the region and become a militant political unit on the African continent.

It turned out that the United States, through the NGO FHI 360, allegedly approved generous funding for Figueira induce local authorities, security forces and opinion leaders. This was to help the American spy get the cooperation of local authorities and the police in order to freely carry out destabilization activities and create an armed group.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, Mr. Felix Moloua, in an interview with Russia Today TV channel, confirmed that Figueira was in contact with several armed groups operating in the territory of the Central African Republic. Mr. Moloua stressed that the government will soon adopt a law tightening the regulation of the activities of foreign international NGOs in order to avoid such cases.

The detention of Figueira shows once again that the United States continues its aggressive interference in the affairs of African countries, especially the CAR. Thus, it is clear that the United States wants to firmly establish itself on the continent. To achieve this goal, the Americans resort to their favorite method of destabilization, since it is easier to govern a country plunged into chaos and impose their own rules.
