MANY PF OFFICIALS ARE IN COURT FOR BEING IN POSSESSION OF PROPERTIES SUSPECTED TO BE PROCEEDS OF CRIME AND SOME FOR CORRUPTION ; THEY CANNOT TELL US ANYTHING ABOUT CORRUPTION TODAY .

By Mark Simuuwe

It is shocking to hear Emmanuel Mwamba and Patriotic Front ( PF ) members spearheading a crusade against corruption when many of them have forfeited properties and are still forfeiting to the state suspected to have been acquired corruptly .

Emmanuel Mwamba himself knows that most of friends in PF are appearing in court for allegedly being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime .

It is important for citizens to get the context that infact , the decision by President Hakainde Hichilema to dissolve the Ant-corruption Commission board is a clear demonstration of the UPND’s unwavering commitment to fight corruption . Such decisions never used to happen under Edgar Lungu’s corrupt government.

As my President Hakainde Hichilema once said when he addressed the National Assembly that ,” we shall fight corruption in the past , Present and in the future .” end of quote .

UPND New Dawn Administration will ensure all those found wanting meet the wrath of the law .

This is one feature which was lacking under the PF and Emmanuel MWAMBA’ and friends’ corrupt leadership .

During Emmanuel Mwamba and Edgar Lungu’s administration, they glorified corruption when Edgar Lungu was quoted by the media that , “ you can eat but tabalila kumo nembuto “, ( you can steal but you do not eat the seed itself ) . This statement basically glorifies corruption.

The other statement commonly used by the PF was ,” ubomba mwibala alya Mwibala “. All these quotes go to demonstrate how inherent and deep rooted corruption was in the PF and its administration .

We are coming from an administration under the PF in which the United Kingdom ( UK) had to demand that social cash transfer be refunded because the PF then lost the account where money was .

Another incident is when the European Union(EU) stopped financing Zambia’s budget due to Edgar Lungu ‘s corrupt government. But the EU have resumed financing Zambia’s budget and this is what the likes of Emmanuel Mwamba is jealous of .

We are coming from the PF administration in which they were paying 3000 ghost workers or non existent civil servants .

Coming to Dr O’Brien Kaaba’s statement which Emmanuel Mwamba referred to ; this statement is actually timely with the increase in freedom of expression in the country.

To the contrary , under the PF , they arrested whistleblowers . We can cite so many examples of whistleblowers who were arrested under the PF . Some had to flee the country .

One clear example is that of Pilato ; Pilato did a song in which he dramatized the high corruption under Emmanuel Mwamba and Edgar Lungu’s administration but what did we see ?

Pilato had to run for his life and went into exile .

It is also important to address the current revelations under the Financial Intelligence Report that unlike under the PF where Edgar Lungu publicly denounced FIC boss , Ms Mary Chirwa , and the entire PF called for her dismissal from the FIC after she published the stinky corruption under the PF, President allowed for the publication of the document and further took a role in ensuring necessary measures are taken to deal with perpetrators .

This is huge difference and sanity that President Hichilema has brought . Our President did not mind whether the report would affect even those appointed by him .

This is the promise he made to the country that he will ensure even those he appoints are probed and dealt with once found wanting .

Zambians may recall that our President once said “those who break the law are on their own .”

Additionally, Edgar Lungu and the PF themselves once told us how corrupt their ministers were and this was carried by the press .

We wish to again assure citizens that , as President Hichilema has indicated , law enforcement agencies must expeditiously deal with all those mentioned in the FIC report and we do not want to hear the PF cry of persecution because the FIC reports contains also the corruption which the PF hid in 2014, 2015, and 2016 up to the UPND administration.

The FIC also contains current leads which shall be followed up to the latter .

President Hichilema must be commended for his determination and consistency in ensuring that Zambia’s record on the fight against corruption remains a model .

We also want to thank President Hakainde for ensuring that the Economic and Financial Crimes court , which is a fast – track court is established ; this will help us quickly deal with the past, present and future financial crimes .

We thank all those in the UPND government who have worked so hard to make Zambia’s corruption perceptions index improve by 4 points in less than 2 years of being in leadership.

We have confidence that the next men and women who will constitute the new board will learn a lesson from the staunch decision that the President has taken on corruption.

We call upon Zambians to rally behind President Hichilema in his quest to protect public resources. We have so far recovered over 53.6 million from the corrupt PF administration and we know they are stil at pain . We want to assure citizens that more will be recovered from those Ukwa bags externalized .

Even those making the loudest r noise in PF are under probe and citizens will soon see for themselves.

Tanzanian minister sacked after poll rigging remarks

Tanzania’s information minister Nape Nnauye has been removed from his post following an outcry over comments he made suggesting that elections could be rigged.

Mr Nnauye was filmed at a rally on 15 July, saying that he would help a fellow ruling party MP win in the 2025 election.

He added that “election results are not necessarily those in the [ballot box], rather they depend on the person counting and making announcements”.

Following a public backlash after a video of his controversial remarks went viral, Mr Nnauye said he had made them in jest.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan sacked him from the cabinet on Sunday as part of a wider reshuffle. She did not give reasons for her decision.

The video, filmed on Mr Nnauye’s visit to the northern city of Bukoba, also showed the former minister saying: “Because I’m good at election tricks, I will assist to emerge victorious.”

He said there are various methods to ensure a win – “legal, half legal, and illegal”.

“All of them could be used provided after the conclusion you seek God’s forgiveness,” Mr Nnauye added.

Many Tanzanians criticised the former minister, arguing that he had violated the principles of electoral democracy and did not respect the decision of voters.
In his apology, Mr. Nnauye said he believed in “free and fair elections”.

Mr. Nnauye also came under fire during the run up to the 2015 elections, when, using a football analogy, he said the ruling CCM party would win the poll by all means – even if this meant scoring a “handball goal”.

CCM – short for Chama cha Mapinduzi – is the one of longest-reigning parties in Africa.

It has been in power since its formation in 1977, with opposition leaders accusing it of winning recent elections through fraud and state repression.

The electoral commission, however, denies that results are rigged.

Mr. Nnauye has served CCM “since his primary school days”, a biography on the information ministry website says.

He was first appointed as information minister by the late President John Magufuli, before being removed in a reshuffle.

President Samia reappointed Mr Nnauye in January 2022.

He will now be replaced by former land and housing development minister Jerry Slaa.

Foreign minister January Makamba has also been sacked, with Tanzania’s ambassador to Italy, Mahmoud Thabiti Kombo, chosen as his successor.

Security forces lock down Ugandan opposition’s HQ ahead of protest

Ugandan security forces have surrounded the headquarters of the main opposition party in advance of a planned anti-government rally over alleged corruption and human rights abuses.

Police and soldiers cut off access to the office of the National Unity Platform (NUP), which sits near the capital, Kampala, on Monday. The threat of protests has angered longtime President Yoweri Museveni, who claimed it to be a plot being operated by unnamed “foreigners”.

NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi claimed that the blockade prevented people from entering or leaving, while some have been roughly detained.

“These cowards have turned the National Unity Platform Headquarters into a military barracks,” he wrote on X.

Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, added that several opposition leaders had been “violently arrested”.

Bobi Wine, 42, a pop star turned politician, has in recent years emerged as the biggest challenger to Museveni.

The 79-year-old has ruled the East African nation since 1986. However, Ugandan youth have spearheaded unrest recently, and are planning to march to parliament on Tuesday to protest against alleged widespread corruption and human rights abuses.

‘Red flag’
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said security forces had taken precautionary steps against what he called NUP’s “mobilisation for the protest”.

“We have been monitoring [this]. Their activities raised a red flag and we took precaution[ary] measures,” he said.

Opposition leaders and rights activists say embezzlement and misuse of government funds are pervasive in Uganda. They have long accused Museveni of failing to prosecute corrupt high-level officials who are politically loyal or related to him.

The NGO Transparency International ranks Uganda low on its corruption perceptions index, at 141 out of 180 countries.

Museveni has repeatedly denied tolerating corruption. He says culprits, including lawmakers and ministers, are prosecuted if there is enough evidence.

In a speech on Saturday, the president warned Uganda’s youth against the planned protest, warning them that they are “playing with fire”.

“Some elements, some of them from the opposition, are always working with the foreigners to foment chaos in Uganda – riots, illegal demonstrations, illegal and inconsiderate processions, etc. These people … should check themselves or we shall have no alternative but to check them,” he said.

PSG rekindle transfer interest in Man Utd’s Bruno Fernandes

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly expressed interest in Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as they seek to compensate for the departure of Kylian Mbappe.

This summer, PSG lost Mbappe, who fulfilled his long-time ambition of joining Real Madrid as a free agent.

According to L’Equipe, Les Parisiens are now aiming to bolster their attacking options by bringing Fernandes to Parc des Princes.

Fernandes, who joined Manchester United from Sporting in the winter of 2020, has been a pivotal player for the Red Devils, delivering impressive performances despite the team’s struggles in recent years.

There have been rumors of Fernandes contemplating a move away from Manchester United, with links to clubs like Bayern Munich and Al-Nassr this summer.

A TEAMtalk report earlier this month indicated that United had given the Portuguese midfielder the ‘green light’ to initiate discussions with Saudi clubs.

In 2021, then-PSG manager Thomas Tuchel highly praised Fernandes, despite the midfielder having only been with the Red Devils for a little over a year. Tuchel even revealed that he had urged the club to attempt signing Fernandes before his move to Old Trafford.

He said: “With my first sporting director in Paris, Antero Henrique, a Portuguese sporting director, and he knew [Fernandes] very well.

“We fought hard to have a connection to him and to bring him to our team. I got made aware of him more in detail, so we watched more and more games about him and followed him and tried to be in touch with him to make it happen.

“Obviously, he decided [to sign for Man Utd] and I was never personally in touch with him, but we tried and he went another way. [It is] bad for us that we have to play against him.”

At the moment, it seems highly unlikely that a move away from Erik ten Hag’s side is possible for the Manchester United captain. However, considering the squad overhaul being conducted by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the Portugal international could be allowed to leave if the club feels like it.

Ten Hag admits former Utd boss’ assessment of club needing an “open-heart” surgery

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has affirmed that former interim boss Ralf Rangnick was “absolutely right” in stating the club needed “open-heart” surgery.

Ten Hag, who took over in 2022 after Rangnick’s seven-month tenure, has acknowledged the German’s assessment.

Rangnick, now managing Austria, had steered United to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League but secured only 11 wins out of 29 matches.

Rangnick had asserted that United’s issues required more than just “minor changes” and called for significant intervention. Ten Hag, who extended his contract by another year this month, agrees with Rangnick’s evaluation.

“Rangnick was absolutely right,” Ten Hag said in an interview with Dutch newspaper AD Sportwereld., external

“We have been working very hard on this for two years, but he said it exactly right: it is a thorough, very complex operation. And I knew when I started that it was going to be a tough job.”

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a 27.7% stake in United last December, the club has undergone significant changes off the pitch.

This year, Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth, Jason Wilcox, and Christopher Vivell have all been appointed to board-level positions. Additionally, the club has committed £50 million to upgrade the training ground.

In the past week, forward Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro have been signed from Bologna and Lille, respectively. Manager Erik ten Hag has also confirmed interest in Bayern Munich and Netherlands center-back Matthijs de Ligt.

“It remains to be seen whether De Ligt will come,” said Ten Hag.

“Of course I know Matthijs well, I’m not going to deny that. I wanted to sign him two years ago, but he had already gone a long way with Bayern Munich.”

Despite working with De Ligt at former club Ajax, Ten Hag says it was United’s scouting department that suggested the centre-back as a transfer target.

Ten Hag also confirmed that forward Jadon Sancho, who last appeared for the club in August 2023 and spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund after falling out with the manager, is available again for selection.

“Everyone can make a mistake,” said Ten Hag.

Sancho and Yoro both started as goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill saw United beat Rangers 2-0 at Murrayfield in a friendly on Saturday.

“The standard was much better, we were much more on the front foot,” Ten Hag told MUTV. “It was enjoyable to watch.”

Secret Service reveals it has been denying Donald Trump of additional resources and personnel for the last two years

0

Former US President, Donald Trump’s security detail had complained they were not being given enough resources and personnel by the Secret Service over the past two years, and the agency has now acknowledged it denied some requests.

The news comes amid widespread concerns about how a sniper was able to obtain rooftop access roughly 150 meters from Trump’s position at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last week.

The Washington Post and The New York Times reported earlier Saturday that the Secret Service denied previous request from Trump’s security team over the past two years.

A spokesperson for the Secret Service said in a statement Saturday that the agency has not provided certain resources in the past but has instead provided other security measures including from local partners.

Secret Service reveals it has been denying Trump of additional resources and personnel for the last two years
Allies of Trump reportedly felt the decisions, which they believed were personal to Trump, came from the top ranks of the agency.

While Trump holds close relationships with members of his Secret Service detail, the relationship between those agents and the upper ranks of the agency isn’t close, according to a report by CNN.

In response to questions whether the Secret Service had denied additional security requests, a spokesperson told CNN the agency makes “modifications” when certain resources are not provided to protectees.

“In some instances where specific Secret Service specialized units or resources were not provided, the agency made modifications to ensure the security of the protectee,” Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the Secret Service, wrote in a statement.

“This may include utilizing state or local partners to provide specialized functions or otherwise identifying alternatives to reduce public exposure of a protectee.”

Guglielmi said in a statement the day after the shooting that claims that Trump was denied additional security requests specifically for the rally in Pennsylvania were untrue.

“This is absolutely false. In fact, we added protective resources & technology & capabilities as part of the increased campaign travel tempo,” Guglielmi wrote on X.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is facing questions about how a gunman was able to get a clear line of sight to Trump at the rally site, and there have been calls for her resignation from members of Congress, including House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Kamala Harris’ statement on Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing her

0

US Vice President Kamala Harris has declared her candidacy for President, vowing to build on President Joe Biden’s legacy after he withdrew from the 2024 race amid mounting concerns about his health.

In a statement issued via the Biden-Harris campaign, Harris expressed gratitude for Biden’s endorsement as the nominee for the Democratic Party to face the Republican nominee, Donald Trump in the November election.

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” she declared. “We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”

Read Kamala Harris’ full statement here:

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office.

“It is a profound honor to serve as his Vice President, and I am deeply grateful to the President, Dr. Biden, and the entire Biden family. I first came to know President Biden through his son Beau. We were friends from our days working together as Attorneys General of our home states.

As we worked together, Beau would tell me stories about his Dad. The kind of father—and the kind of man—he was. And the qualities Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values, I have seen every single day in Joe’s leadership as President: His honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to his faith and his family. And his love of our country and the American people.

“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else.

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.

“We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”

Former President Lungu Calls for Accountability in Light of Corruption Reports

Former President Lungu Calls for Accountability in Light of Corruption Reports

Lusaka, July 2024

Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has called for President Hakainde Hichilema to uphold his promises of fighting corruption, following the recent exposure of widespread corruption within the government.

Reflecting on President Hichilema’s stance as an opposition leader, President Lungu shared a past Facebook post from January 10, 2021, in which President Hichilema criticized then-President Lungu for not taking sufficient action against corruption. Hichilema’s post read:

“The sacking of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya does not go far enough and comes too little, too late. Mr. Edgar Lungu knew all along about Dr. Chilufya’s corrupt activities at the Ministry of Health but didn’t relieve him of his duties because it benefited him and the entire Patriotic Front.

He didn’t have to wait for the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee to unearth something that was so obvious. We therefore demand that the ACC immediately move in on Dr. Chitalu Chilufya. Mr. Lungu should go further and fire Stephen Kampyongo and Kakoma Kanganja, who are equally culpable, like Dr. Chilufya, in the deaths of innocent citizens. We demand justice for the Zambian people now!”

In his address, President Lungu emphasized the importance of consistency and integrity in leadership, stating, “Fellow Citizens, this is July 2024. We have heard and seen reports of massive corruption, as evidenced in the Financial Intelligence Centre report, Whistleblowers, the Parliamentary Accounts Committee Report, involving his own ministers and other appointees, and we are anxiously waiting for the President to walk his own talk following these revelations. What was not good in his eyes then should not be good in the same eyes now.”

President Lungu’s call for action comes after a series of reports from various watchdog agencies and committees have revealed significant corruption within the current administration. The Financial Intelligence Centre and the Parliamentary Accounts Committee, along with whistleblowers, have provided substantial evidence of corruption involving several ministers and presidential appointees.

In his concluding remarks, Lungu urged for the restoration of the rule of law and accountability, saying, “May God bless Zambia and restore the rule of law sooner or later.”

The nation now watches closely, waiting to see if President Hichilema will address these serious allegations with the same resolve he once demanded of his predecessor. The call for justice and integrity in leadership remains a critical issue for Zambians, who hope for a government that truly serves the people and upholds the rule of law.

Government Defaults on Mikalie Loan, tries to escape inplications

By Amb Emmanuel Mwamba

Government Defaults on Mikalie Loan, tries to escape inplications

On 8th July,2024 the Permanent Secretary was directed by the select committee on the Special Audit report on debt that the Ministry of Finance contracted a Supplier Credit agreement whose validity period is 10 years..

Government has so far defaulted all payments and are negotiating a debt restructuring under the G20 framework for Mikalile Hong Kong.

But PS General Education, Noriano Muneku claims the goods were not received, and those about to be received must not be accepted as the period of delivery has allegedly expired.

She has wriiten the following letter;

RE: CONTRACT No. MOGE/SP/STD/004/2017 FOR SUPPLY OF SCHOOL REQUISITES UNDER MINISTRY OF EDUCATION – MIKALILIE TRADING COMPANY OF HONG KONG

Reference is made to the above stated subject matter. You may wish to note that the Supplier (Mikalile Trading Company of Hong kong)
claims to have signed the contract for the acquisition of design and technology
laboratory, computers, furniture, laptops, desktop equipment, officesupplies/chemicals, laboratory equipment, solar to power computers, carpentry, tools kits, accessories, transport, assembling and installation of equipment at schools country wide.

I am aware that there are some goods that the supplier delivered before the contract expired and these were received by various schools country wide.

However, the contract expired due to passage of time and the supplier cannot deliver on an expired contract because it is no longer binding.

According to the partially signed contract at the Ministry Headquarters, I refer to Articles and General Conditions of the contract as follows:
1. delivery period was 12 months effective from the date of contract signature; Article 22 GCC Clause 22.1 states that ”delivery of goods and performance of services shall be made by the supplier in accordance with the time schedule prescribed by the Purchaser in the schedule of requirements as above;

2. Article 24 GCC Clause 24.1 states that .’the Purchaser, without prejudice to any other remedy for breach of Contract, by written notice of default sentto the supplier, may terminate this contract in whole or in part:
(a) if the Supplier fails to deliver any or all of the Goods within the period (s) specified
in the Contract, or within any extension thereof granted by the Purchaser pursuant to GCC Clause 22.

These provisions collectively suggest that a supplier is not allowed to deliver goods after a contract has expired, as it is considered a breach of the contract.

As things stand, the Ministry and the supplier have not substantiated whether there was truly a signed contract for the goods being delivered.

Therefore, I am directing you to reject all the goods being delivered to your schools by Mikalile Trading Company of Hong kong this time around.

You will be on your own should you decide to receive any goods from the supplier.

Treat this communication as directive and must be given the urgency it deserves.

BO ECL, ON BEHALF OF ARROGANT 2.8 MILLION ZAMBIANS WHO VOTED AGAINST YOU, I AM SORRY-HON MUNSANJE

0

BO ECL, ON BEHALF OF ARROGANT 2.8 MILLION ZAMBIANS WHO VOTED AGAINST YOU, I AM SORRY.

Prior to 2021 polls, you fearlessly told Zambians that they would REGRET voting you out of Office. Just a day out, regrets started such that abakote (old aged) were favored with jobs at the expense of fearless youths who aided UPND’s win. Bo ECL, what kind of a prophet are you?

Ba former kateka, on pretext that your government was very corrupt, UPND de-campaigned against you with Zambians accepting these lies from them. From the time UPND assumed office, there have been numerous FIRINGS based on corruption allegations of office bearers. Bo Lungu, I swear that you were not corrupt like these lions in sheep clothing.

Abasungu batila, ‘show me your friends and I will know who you are’. This must also apply to the current President Inasmuch as they applied it to you, ECL, then. I remember the ZAF commander being FIRED on corruption allegations and to pave way for investigations.

I am sure, Bo ECL, you haven’t forgotten the suitcase of calendars case by the then, Foreign Affairs minister and corruption allegations which led to him quitting. What surprises me is that with all these firings, there has been no conviction and arrests made from these. Why?

Bo Lungu, do you know that some buses today, are not operating from their designated areas because then, they seemed to have supported PF? I know ba kateka don’t allow you to move around anymore but I am telling you, UPND cadres are busy terrorizing marketeers daily in these public markets.

Bo Lungu, kalya akabunga mwashile pa ZMW160.00 apa kali AVIATOR pa ZMW320.00 and in trying to lower the initial price, they have introduced ZNS’s Eagle Meal which is only bought by a few aba kumayadi because there are no outlets mumashodoodo mwathu. Even buying it, one needs ma ama connections.

Bo ECL, dumpe (fuel) you left at ZMW17.62 is now AVIATING at ZMW31.62 per litre. With fuel being part of the economy engine, apa tulenya amensi as life is unbearable not just to the 1.8million who voted for you but also to the arrogant 2.8 million who voted against you.

Bo Chagwa, loadshedding you once managed properly then when we complained of 12hrs, today, in Chilanga, we only have power for 1:30 minutes a day. Mathematically, we are in 22:30 minutes without power a day and the current President see no wrong in that because there is always power kwake.

Bo Lungu, then, transport fare from town to Kafue used to cost ZMW20.00 but with these economists today, the same distance is costing ZMW50.00. With ZMW20.00, you can’t even reach Chilanga but if you do, then the bus conductor would have showered you with all forms of insults on the way.

Okay, back to corruption fight. Just a day after the resignation of the ACC Director General, HH dissolves the ACC board, why? Why then, did the ACC DG resign in the first place? I smell a rat somewhere in this resignation. If the suitcase man could resign, what is stopping the Solicitor General in doing the same?

Bo ECL, see this…Instead of HH firing the Solicitor General who is under investigation, he FIRES and DISSOLVES the ACC Board mandated to investigate the Solicitor General. Is the Solicitor General UNTOUCHABLE? I don’t properly see the mathematics here.

I am confused on this corruption fight.

Bo Lungu, I know that I was part of the 2.8 million who never wanted anything to do with you and your PF regime having lost my businesses due to political alignment. Then, I knew that the coming into office of the UPND would see my businesses resuscitated. Today, I am among those failing to buy a bag of ZNS mealie meal. Life is not just hard but also unbearable.

Yes, I de-campaigned against you but today I regret that day I stood on a podium with a microphone lying to the masses that ECL and PF are corrupt because I never knew how ba UPND would be. I regret even having used my little remaining resources then to campaign for ba UPND. I wish I knew they were marginal liars.

Bo ECL, kuma campaign then, we told the people that akabunga was expensive in your leadership and so was fuel but little did we know that the party we campaigned for would double and/or in some instances triple commodity prices.

Akabunga and fuel are DIAMONDS in this regime Sir.

Bo Lungu, I know that my campaigns against you made your soul weak and that today, you have nothing to do with me and other 2.8 million Zambians. But I am assured to publicly address you like a father for the father’s heart is embedded in you. I better declare publicly my apology to you whilst you are still alive.

Bo Chagwa, today, the 21st of July 2024, three years after having removed PF out of office and three years after dropping my first APOLOGY to you over what I foresaw the next day of ushering HH into office, I PUBLICLY, and on behalf of other arrogant 2.8 million Zambians, render my SINCERE APOLOGIES on VOTING AGAINST PF and YOU.

Sir, little did we know that by voting for UPND, we were voting for a form of CORRUPTION which WENT TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS. Publicly, they are saints but the level of corruption and theft that happens when we go to bed is beyond measures. We thought voting for UPND was voting against corruption but that isn’t the case today.

Please Bo Lungu, I come, today, with a sober mind and heart that is resolved to publicly render my apology on behalf of the arrogant camp and indeed on my behalf, knowing truly that we are your LOST SONS, please forgive us and speak for us always when you have the podium because these hardships are too much on us.

Just as we always pray for your safety and long life, Bo ECL, please put us all too in your daily prayers because the mistake we made seems to still be around us up until 2026. We are hopeless today because the purported HOPE AND HELP has turned into HOPELESS AND LONELINESS in this regime.

Bo father of the nation, if this little epistle has reached your attention, then I will live a happy man and even when I die, I will rest in peace knowing that you truly forgave me and the 2.8 million Zambians I have spoken on behalf. I know that you have a gentle and caring heart that you FORGIVE.

Thank you, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, for having led Zambia into prosperity. Thank you for the precious life lived during your regime.

Thank you for having loved us, the poor, wholeheartedly.

Yours your lost son and on behalf of others,
ACTIVIST-HON MUNSANJE (CHILANGA)

MABETA FACES LEGAL ACTION FOR HIS DEFAMATORY STEMENT AGAINST MUSA MWENYE

Former Board Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Musa Mwenye SC has threatened to immediately take legal action against Kankoyo Member of Parliament, Hon Heartson Mabeta for alleging that he plotted to solicit for a $3million in the CEC Vs KCM Matter.

Our client is a senior lawyer and State Counsel, having served as Law Association of Zambia President, Solicitor General and Attorney-General and more recently as Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission Board of Directors.

Our client has been ratified three times by
Parliament without any reservations whatsoever and serves on reputable international corporate boards and has conducted international duties for the Commonwealth at various times.

Yours faithfully

THE DANGERS OF ECZ’S PROPOSED PROLONGED PRESIDENTIAL RESULTS DECLARATION IN THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTION

0

THE DANGERS OF  ECZ’S  PROPOSED PROLONGED PRESIDENTIAL RESULTS DECLARATION IN THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTION.

Recently, Mwangala Zaloumis, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), revealed plans to implement reforms for the upcoming general election in 2026 potentially. One proposed change is to extend the deadline for releasing presidential election results by four days after the election. While ECZ argues that these reforms are necessary to address electoral law shortcomings, significant risks are tied to delaying the announcement of presidential election results in August 2026. I have outlined these potential risks to emphasize the importance of ensuring that ECZ, relevant authorities, and stakeholders fully comprehend the implications of the proposed changes.

It is crucial to acknowledge that prolonged delays in announcing the presidential election results could result in an electoral crisis. Uncertainty and disagreements among political parties and voters may breed mistrust in the electoral system, sparking potential social unrest and instability within the country. This may also fuel feelings of injustice and frustration among the electorate, possibly escalating to civil unrest, demonstrations, and protests, further jeopardizing the country’s political stability.

By postponing the declaration of presidential election outcomes, it opens the door to potential manipulation. Lack of immediate transparency and accountability during the voting process poses a threat of result tampering. This poses a danger to the fundamental democratic values of open and fair elections.

It is also important to understand that the proposed change has a higher potential to undermine the democratic values of transparency, accountability, and the right to vote. They erode public trust in the electoral process and compromise the legitimacy of the election outcome.

The proposed change will probably attract scrutiny and criticism from the global community. The country’s standing in the international arena and its relationships with other countries might suffer due to the lack of transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.

Finally, the prolonged delays in announcing presidential election results could result in legal challenges and lengthy court battles. This may deepen political divisions and delay the formation of a strong government, impeding progress and growth in the nation.

Undeniably, electoral reforms are crucial for upholding democratic standards and enhancing the electoral process. However, the ECZ must carefully assess the risks of prolonging the declaration of presidential election results. Any proposed changes should prioritize the national interest over allowing the ruling party to win at all cost. Failure to do so could lead the country down a destructive path. The ECZ must focus on transparency, efficiency, and accountability to safeguard the integrity of the electoral system and facilitate a seamless transition of power post-election.

Therefore, the recommended extended postponement of announcing the presidential election results in the upcoming 2026 general election presents considerable threats to the democratic process in Zambia. The ECZ should reassess its strategy and work towards introducing changes that foster equity, confidence, and reliability in the electoral framework. The ECZ must acknowledge the worries of all parties involved and prioritize the welfare of the Zambian populace to protect the longevity of democracy in the nation.

Lets allow FIC to investigate and prosecute – Sunday Chanda

0

Lets allow FIC to investigate and prosecute – Sunday Chanda

Kanchibiya, Zambia:

We are calling for an amendment to the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) of 2010 Section 5 to include “investigative and prosecutorial powers.” This will move FIC from just playing the role of a whistleblower to a law enforcement agency that will investigate and prosecute. This we must do if we are to win the fight against corruption.

In giving these institutions like FIC enough teeth to bite, we are calling for the following specific interventions:

1. Independent funding of LEAs: We must ensure that institutions have a stable and independent source of funding to prevent political interference.

2. Clear mandates: We must define and redefine clear and specific mandates for these institutions to combat corruption, and ensure they have the necessary powers to investigate, prosecute, and sanction corrupt activities.

3. Qualified personnel: We must attract qualified and trained men and women of honour to these institutions. These must be immune to political pressure and have a strong track record of integrity.

4. LEAs must enjoy Autonomy in their work: Learning from the past into the now, we are calling for the granting to these institutions autonomy in word and deed in order for them to operate independently, free from political interference or influence.

5. Let us enact Effective laws: We are calling for the enacting and enforcement of effective laws that provide strong legal frameworks for combating corruption. We shall support as well as bring to parliament motions in this regard.

6. Strengthening of Oversight mechanisms: We are calling for the establishment of robust oversight mechanisms to ensure institutions are accountable and transparent in their operations.

7. The fight against corruption depends on Public support and involvement: In order to foster a culture of zero tolerance for corruption, and encourage public support and participation in the fight against corruption, Zambians must own the fight against corruption and not leave it to politicians alone.

We believe that by giving institutions the necessary “teeth to bite,” such as giving FIC powers to investigate and prosecute, we will be empowering these institutions to effectively combat corruption and promote a culture of accountability and transparency for the good of the nation.

Obama salutes Joe Biden

0

Obama writes:

Joe Biden has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we’ve also been reminded — again — that he’s a patriot of the highest order.

Sixteen years ago, when I began my search for a vice president, I knew about Joe’s remarkable career in public service. But what I came to admire even more was his character — his deep empathy and hard-earned resilience; his fundamental decency and belief that everyone counts.

Since taking office, President Biden has displayed that character again and again. He helped end the pandemic, created millions of jobs, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, passed the first major piece of gun safety legislation in 30 years, made the biggest investment to address climate change in history, and fought to ensure the rights of working people to organize for fair wages and benefits. Internationally, he restored America’s standing in the world, revitalized NATO, and mobilized the world to stand up against Russian aggression in Ukraine.

More than that, President Biden pointed us away from the four years of chaos, falsehood, and division that had characterized Donald Trump’s administration. Through his policies and his example, Joe has reminded us of who we are at our best — a country committed to old-fashioned values like trust and honesty, kindness and hard work; a country that believes in democracy, rule of law, and accountability; a country that insists that everyone, no matter who they are, has a voice and deserves a chance at a better life.

This outstanding track record gave President Biden every right to run for re-election and finish the job he started. Joe understands better than anyone the stakes in this election — how everything he has fought for throughout his life, and everything that the Democratic Party stands for, will be at risk if we allow Donald Trump back in the White House and give Republicans control of Congress.

I also know Joe has never backed down from a fight. For him to look at the political landscape and decide that he should pass the torch to a new nominee is surely one of the toughest in his life. But I know he wouldn’t make this decision unless he believed it was right for America. It’s a testament to Joe Biden’s love of country — and a historic example of a genuine public servant once again putting the interests of the American people ahead of his own that future generations of leaders will do well to follow.

We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges. I believe that Joe Biden’s vision of a generous, prosperous, and united America that provides opportunity for everyone will be on full display at the Democratic Convention in August. And I expect that every single one of us are prepared to carry that message of hope and progress forward into November and beyond.

For now, Michelle and I just want to express our love and gratitude to Joe and Jill for leading us so ably and courageously during these perilous times — and for their commitment to the ideals of freedom and equality that this country was founded on.

Corruption Scandal Rocks Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission as Former Chairman Speaks Out

Former Chairman of Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Musa Mwenye, has lifted the lid on the alarming state of affairs within the country’s premier anti-graft agency.

Mwenye, who served as ACC Chairman for the past two years, has voluntarily declared his assets to the Chief Justice, setting a powerful example of transparency in public office. However, his revelations paint a troubling picture of the challenges faced by the ACC board under his leadership.

Mwenye disclosed that the board was “sidelined and denied access to any information on ongoing investigations and prosecutions for a full year,” despite their efforts to ensure the “right thing be done” by the Director General and his team.

The former Chairman further criticized the selective nature of the anti-corruption efforts, stating that the ACC has failed to investigate and prosecute corruption cases involving past and present government officials. “Almost three years down the line, we should have seen some government officials arrested and dismissed,” Mwenye lamented.

This contention between the ACC board and the Director General’s office appears to have been a constant source of friction, with Mwenye accusing the management of being “user friendly” and unwilling to fulfill their duties.

Mwenye’s scathing remarks come on the heels of President Hakainde Hichilema’s decision to dissolve the entire ACC board, citing the need for “necessary reforms to ensure the continued effective operations of the Commission.”

The President’s move has been viewed by many as a tacit acknowledgment of the deep-rooted problems plaguing the anti-corruption agency. The resignation of Director General Thom Trevor Shamakamba, amid allegations of shielding corrupt officials, has further compounded the crisis.

As the Hichilema administration grapples with these corruption woes, the public is left wondering whether the promised crusade against graft will ever materialize. Mwenye’s candid statement has not only shed light on the internal turmoil but has also served as a wake-up call for the government to address the systemic challenges that have undermined the ACC’s effectiveness.

The nation’s faith in the fight against corruption hangs in the balance, and the Hichilema administration must act swiftly and decisively to restore public trust and demonstrate its commitment to eradicating the scourge of graft that has long plagued Zambia.

Former ACC Chairman Musa Mwenye speaks out

0

*Former ACC Chairman Musa Mwenye speaks out*

I am grateful to the people and the President of the Republic of Zambia for the opportunity to have served as Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

When I assumed my office as Chairperson of the ACC, two years ago, I declared my assets in accordance with the law. Although, the law does not require me to do so at the time of leaving my office, I have today decided to make a voluntary declaration of my assets to the Learned Chief Justice. All of us who serve in public office must be transparent in our financial dealings and must all be willing to declare our assets and explain how we acquired what we have. And I encourage all those in public office today, who have not done so to do that in the interest of transparency, integrity and accountability.

Let me mention that I was privileged and honored to have served with men and a woman of integrity on the ACC board under extremely difficult conditions. Despite having been sidelined and denied access to any information on ongoing investigations and prosecutions for a full year, the board continued to mount pressure internally for the right thing to be done by the Director General and his team.

Legally, the board of the ACC, has no powers to arrest anyone, that power lies with the Director General. Equally, the board has no legal powers to hire and fire the Director General – that power lies else where.

That said, I strongly believe that we cannot fight corruption unless we fight ALL corruption – past present and future. Those who committed corruption in the past regimes must be investigated and prosecuted. Even current government officials who have betrayed the trust of the people of Zambia must also be investigated and prosecuted. Almost three years down the line, we should have seen some government officials arrested and dismissed. This is a matter that was a constant source of friction between the board and those who refused to do their job in this regard. Instead, they elected to be selective in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.

It is also worth noting that successive governments have manipulated the operations of the ACC by appointing a strong board to give a veneer of respectability but appointing management that is ‘user friendly’. But I am proud that the board I served refused to be intimidated, remained in position and demanded internally and publicly, both as a board and in our individual capacities, that the right thing be done. We made our position known and nobody can claim ignorance over these matters I have highlighted in this statement today.

And to the rank and file of the ACC, who continue to do their job under difficult conditions, I say thank you and encourage you to soldier on. To my fellow former board members, former Vice Chairperson Mrs. Irene Chongo – Lamba and former Commissioners Dr. O’brien Kaaba and Dr. Tommy Namitondo, who I served with in the past two years, I say thank you for your unity of purpose, integrity, strength of character and courage. It was an honour. Sadly, I did not have the pleasure of working with newly appointed board member Mr. Jack Kalala because the board was dissolved before we had any significant interactions. We all did our best and I have no doubt whatsoever, that posterity will judge us correctly.

I thank you!

THE ENERGY SITUATION IS A BIT DIRE AND WE MAY BE IN THE DARK FOR SOME TIME

By Hon. Binwell Mpundu, Nkana MP

We have just concluded our tour of the Itezhi Tezhi power generation plant which plant has an installed capacity of 120 Megga Watts but is only producing around 40 MW because of low water levels in the Itezhi Tezhi Dam.

We have also learnt from the presentations that the Kafue River Basin has three power stations (ITEZHI TEZHI POWER STATION ,KAFUE GORGE POWER STATION AND THE KAFUE GORGE LOWER POWER STATION)which in total have an installed capacity of 1850 MW and all feeds from the Itezhi Tezhi lake and Dam and sadly the three power stations are only producing a total of around 500 Mega watts out of the 1850 MW

We have also learn that the country’s Total installed power generation capacity is around 3600 and that Zambia’s power needs is around 2300 MW but that at the moment we are only producing a total of 1200 MW which leaves us with a power deficit of around 1100 MW.

There are however some inteventions that have been employed like the recall of about 160MW from exports, thre 105 MW ndola energy production and a few solar plants that are underway in construction.

What remains to be know is how far the water we have in these reservoir dams will go in as far as giving us more power is concerned because the water levels are futher dwindling.
What also remains to be know is how much in total are all these alternative sources of power that are being brought in board  and when are they coming onto the grid and further, it is yet to be established as to what is the true position of power exports because it looks like what Zesco is telling us is different from the stories we are getting about the quantities of our power exports.

Otherwise we have a dire situation in so far as the power situation is concerned and it looks like we may may in the dark for some time.

Female Teachers In Limulunga Wake Up To Find Tattoos On Their Bodies And Their Pr!v@te P@rts Sh@v3d Without Their Consent

FEMALE TEACHERS IN LIMULUNGA EXPERIENCE SCHEMES OF BLACK MAGIC

FEMALE teachers and wives of some teachers at Malala Primary school in Limulunga district are allegedly experiencing bizarre occurrences by schemes of black magic, a situation which is disturbing the delivery of education.

In an interview with ZANIS, Malala Primary school Deputy Head Teacher, Mubiana Siiya said when victims wake up, they find tattoos on their bodies and their private parts shaved without their consent.

Ms Siiya also disclosed that recently they were shocked when they found faecal matter which the community confirmed was acts of black magic.

‘’When some community members and the area Induna were informed, they said they were not human faecal matter but black magic. Currently the community is making donations to find the person who did that,” she stated.

Ms Siiya said such attacks have affected the teachers because they are not sleeping and it is disturbing the literacy progression of the school.

“Our literacy progression of learners is going down because they attack during the night, so you cannot go back to sleep, you stay awake so when you go to classes you are dozing due to tiredness and body fatigue,” she said.

Recently, the District Commissioner and the District Education Board office held a meeting to engage the community so that perpetrators of black magic desist from such acts.

However, Ms Siiya said that after the four days holiday suspected witches struck again and attacked the wife of a newly deployed teacher.

When asked if the school teachers are active in scripture union at the school to overcome such black magic activities, Ms Siiya said when the affected teachers had a conversation with the District Education Standards Officer (DESO) and Education Standards Officer, the teachers just requested to be transferred somewhere else.

Limulunga District Commissioner, Lutangu Lutangu bemoaned the recent suspected witchcraft schemes at Malala primary school affecting the wellbeing of female teachers.

Mr Lutangu said such practices inflict fear in teachers and is a barrier to the education of the learners and the government’s agenda to promote access to quality education.

“We are very shocked to hear that witchcraft attacks took place at Malala, these are some things we used to hear happening in distant schools. This should come to an end because it is disturbing education delivery,” he said.

Meanwhile, Limulunga Living Word Church International Overseer, Reverend Daniel Nawa said the teachers can only secure protection through the name and authority of Jesus Christ.

Rev Nawa said Limulunga Pastors Fellowship is ready to be engaged by the office of the District Commissioner and the District Education Board Secretary to go to the school and minister to the land and teachers.

WHY HAVE WE BECOME A NATION THAT TOLERATES CORRUPTION?

WHY HAVE WE BECOME A NATION THAT TOLERATES CORRUPTION?
By Faston Mwale – SP MCC

The rising spate of corruption involving high profile business politicians within the circles of the UPND government proves the point that government’s pronouncement on the fight against corrupting is nothing more than political rhetoric and a cover up. The question that begs answers is: How can the same leaders that have flatly refused to publicly disclose their net worth play a front role in the fight against graft?

Unless and until we the citizenry see the high frequency waves of corruption involving enormous amounts money as a contradictory social reality, we risk becoming a nation that tolerates corruption rather than abhor the vice.

It is a sad reality that today, we the struggling masses have been shackled to unsustainable debt servicing mechanisms that are perfectly ravaging our livelihoods and lives for loans that were contracted in our name, yet the loaned money went into the pockets of the greedy self-centered business politicians to capitalize their businesses so that they could earn more profit to sustain their lavish lifestyles.

For over three decades Zambians have been victims of crude forms of corruption for which there is seemingly no ending in sight as the current crop of leaders do not have the ideological tools needed to tackle the vice. Today, we are experiencing the crudest side-effects of corruption. The load-shedding crisis is one of them. How can a mineral rich and fertile country of the 21st century age be grappling with the basic necessities of life such as electricity, water, sanitation, housing, fuel, food and clothing? How can a country that produces cotton, for example, be importing vast quantities of handkerchiefs? Is it not weird that a country that has bamboo canes growing all over the country is a net importer of toothpicks?

Under the guise of draught, the citizens are everyday being sentenced to prolonged power supply outages, yet the crippling crisis of power supply also results from power exports. In a normal functioning democracy, all our leaders would be forced to resign for lack of foresight, forward planning and corruption.

The cause of our predicament lies in the perversity of the socio-political and economic system under which we live. Unless this fact is understood and internalized, we will always miss the point. It is not so much about the moral degeneracy of an individual but much about the capitalist system of governance whose logic is to breed corruption, inequalities, waste, abuse and looting of state resources especially by those in public institutions. Corruption has permeated nearly every sector of governance. Look at what is happening in the energy sector, education and health sectors, for example. It is easy to see that corruption has become a permanent feature of our governance, a sad reality.

Let us not tolerate corruption.

HEALTH MINISTER HON SYLVIA MASEBO IS A NATIONALIST & TRUE CORRUPTION FIGHTER – Miles Sampa

HEALTH MINISTER HON SYLVIA MASEBO IS A NATIONALIST & TRUE CORRUPTION FIGHTER

MBS20.07.2024

Today is Sunday and I would like to tell the truth that I know. Hon Sylvia Masebo is one politician whose strength and sometimes ends up being her weakness is that she is too straight and a “no nonsense” type of person . A typical Iron Lady like Margaret Thatcher. I actually don’t rule out that she could rule Zambia one day. Firstly, she is extremely loyal to whoever her master of the day is or whoever she chooses to support be it politically or otherwise. She does not double cross loyalty.

If one had to ask the late Levy Mwanawasa, late Michael Sata, President HH and to some minor extent Miles Sampa, Hon Masebo works extremely hard to make a King. Then when she does succeed , she will again work extremely hard to make the King shine.

That’s what is going on now. Hon Masebo worked tirelessly for 7 years just to ensure HH makes it to the State House “hoffice”. In the quest in between, she had to sacrifice and lose her own Chongwe seat in 2016 but regained it landslide in 2021 as she propelled HH in the soli and lenje land.

HH gave her Health Ministry to sort out but it has been a bedrock of successful grand corruption candles from one government to another. That’s where mafias of mafias operate to steal state resources. It’s worse of than the Ministry of Agriculture where everyone and all tenders are not under the Ministers or the President, but tender mafias. Step on one and you get sacrificed as Minister. They pay big into the ‘system’ to engineer a non cooperating Minister’s firing. If the President is not dancing to their tune, then they invest big in the long term to remove that President.

Well, my take is that Hon Masebo has taken the fight-in against the mafias that have been holding our Health Ministry hostage for years to stop corruption and loss or abuse of public resources. In the recent case, 62 containers of medicine were hijacked away from sick patients countrywide. Instead of us honoring Hon Masebo for bursting the rot, the mafias have financed a paradigm or narrative shift that she must be nailed to the cross.

I fight corruption and very clear not to fall into the sponsored arena of fighting Whistleblowers or those against corruption.

The Health Ministry has drained Minister Masebo both physically, emotionally and mentally. She is however doing the right thing and what she needs is support from all well meaning Zambians and not painting her black for the grade corruption scandal that she has uncovered. Zambia needs more of Sylvia Masebos if ever the fight against corruption has to be won at the two notorious ministries namely Health(ZAMMSA) and Agriculture (FISP).

The choice Zambia has is between her and the tender or supply mafias’ capture of the Ministry of Health. Only she is brave enough so sort them out otherwise corruption will be at the Ministry to stay forever.

MARRIED MEN, DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR BELOVED WIVES DO WITH THEIR MALE TRAINERS AT THOSE GYMS?

MARRIED MEN, DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR BELOVED WIVES DO WITH THEIR MALE TRAINERS AT THOSE GYMS?

By Charles Chisala

…Assignment for investigative reporters…

There’s nothing wrong with a married man allowing his beloved wife to be frequenting a gym for wellness and fitness training. But do you people know what your wives allow their male trainers to do to and on their sacred bodies while at those gyms? I’ve been a fitness enthusiast for many years.

I usually leave the gyms a sad man after seeing how married members misbehave with their male instructors. Sometimes, I even vent my anger on my innocent wife when I arrive back at home as if she was the one I saw misbehaving with another man at the gym.

It has nothing to do with professional fitness training, but enjoying the freedom to be “danced all over” by a different man. What annoys me is the fact that it’s actually the married women who encourage their usually younger male trainers to immorally gawk at and seductively touch any part of their bodies. Even where they don’t allow their husbands to touch. Kwateniko order girls. 😡

It’s different from being handled by a doctor, clinical officer or nurse at a healthcare facility because it’s part of the diagnosis and treatment of a medical condition. The women and their secret lovers at the gyms do it for sheer fun. Yes, just for fun. You should go and see how they giggle and chortle like nursery school girls as the guys violate their bodies with glee. What a shame!
😭.

You even go back home pretending to be a respectable wife of somebody?
I know some women will try to argue or put up some feeble defence, but it’s futile. I’ve been a gym freak for years now. I’ve seen it all. In fact, I may be saving your marriage with this little snitch. 😂

I’m challenging married men whose wives have been frequenting these gyms in their absence to engage private investigators and get a shock of their lives. You won’t believe your eyes and your ears. You’ll be shocked!
Of course, there’re decent, self-respecting women who give the trainers strict boundaries on what they can do or say to them and what they consider offensive right from the beginning, but I can count them on one ✋ hand. Few indeed. I salute you, ladies. You are virtuous women. May God bless you and your marriages. 🙏

I also know some male instructors like one in Garden House, Lusaka, who are very respectful to female trainees, especially the married ones. I’ve seen him subtly or overtly spurn attempts by both married and single female members to entice him into foolish icibeleshi beyond the normal, routine procedures. He is the perfect gentleman. I know there’re other male trainers out there who just do a professional job and respect the unmarked boundaries when handling married women. I salute you guys. Muli bantu sana.

But majority are sex pests who have turned preying on “careless” married women into a hobby, and many have paid dearly for such ungodly behaviour one way or another. If you don’t stop now, fate awaits you dear. Lobe!

What I’ve observed during the many years I’ve been a gym and dojo enthusiast is that many married women hide behind fitness training at gyms to enjoy ‘matrimonial freedom’ from their husbands with other men. It’s out of social adventurism and a foolish escape from their boring husbands. Open your sleepy eyes, dear “loving” husbands.
Imwe ati “I love my wife” kanshi mungulu. 😡

This is an assignment for investigative journalists. Enrol in at least four different gyms and become a frequent trainee for at least one month while closely observing the interactions between married female members and their male trainers. Then do an investigative article, an exposè which must be published in major media outlets. Some marriages will end for sure. I leave it here for now.

Coco Gauff: A Look At The Growing Net Worth Of One Of The Youngest Tennis Prodigies

0

Coco Gauff, born in 2004, is an American tennis player who was raised in an athletic household.

At the age of 15, she became the youngest WTA player to win a singles title since 2004 when she defeated Jelena Ostapenko in the final.

With this victory and a semifinal in doubles alongside McNally, Gauff achieved her first-ever top-100 rankings in the WTA singles and doubles categories.

Her parents, Candi and Corey, were also aspiring professional athletes, according to PEOPLE.

While Candi was a decorated track and field athlete at Florida State University, Gauff’s father, Corey, was a basketball player at Georgia State University.

The two agree that their own sporting experiences gave them a strong basis for understanding the commitment and discipline needed to compete at a high level, even though they don’t claim entire credit for Gauff’s physical brilliance.

Their encouragement and direction have been essential in fostering an environment that has allowed their daaughter to thrive.

Gauff’s father told The New York Times in a 2019 interview that: “You should be more aware of the procedure so that you don’t become anxious about it. You’re not rushing because you don’t feel like you’re running out of time. You essentially meet your child where they are.

Records Breaking Wins
Coco Gauff’s parents’ coaching and unwavering commitment have helped her achieve incredible success on the tennis court.

She made news in 2019 when, at the age of 15, she defeated Venus Williams, her idol, at Wimbledon.

She kept setting new records, winning the 2023 U.S. Open and the Mubadala Citi DC Open, becoming the youngest player in history to win a Grand Slam tournament.

Coco had a great year in 2023, not just in terms of her sports accomplishments but also financially.

The 20-year-old is reputedly the highest-paid female athlete in the world, according to Sportico, after earning about $23 million in victories and endorsement deals.

However, Celebrity Net Worth lists her estimated net worth at $3.5 million based on these earnings.

Endorsements Deals
She is well-known on the tennis court due to her skill, but she has also endorsed numerous products, solidifying her reputation and status globally and adding to her wealth.

According to Forbes, she has new sponsorship agreements with Carol’s Daughter, Bose, Naked Juice Brands, New Balance, and UPS.

Coco Gauff is said to have told Forbes in an earlier interview that she is frugal with her money, despite her lucrative endorsement deals and on-court earnings.

However, her father is pushing her to take more pleasure in the rewards of her hard work.

“I lived a very economical life. I just didn’t like to spend money since I always remembered how important it was. The person that really pushes me to spend money a little bit more is my dad. I haven’t been spending a lot of money, but I have been going shopping more recently and just buying stuff,” Coco remarked.

Gambia MPs kill bid to repeal anti-FGM law

0

After months of national debate, Gambia’s Parliament on July 15 voted to reject a controversial Bill that sought to repeal a 2015 law banning female genital mutilation (FGM) in the country.

The anti-FGM law, enacted under exiled former president Yahya Jammeh’s regime, prohibits the cut, which is widely practised in Gambia, backed by religious and cultural beliefs. Islamic scholars in the Muslim-dominated country vigorously campaigned to have the law repealed, arguing it violated the cultural and religious rights of Gambians.

But the religious community was sharply divided, with those against the repeal citing the harmful nature of the practice and casting doubt on its religious basis. The issue even featured in the Organisation of Islamic Conference meeting hosted by Gambia this year, where some scholars insisted that FGM had no religious basis.

Following a heated debate, the House on Monday voted 48 to five in favour of maintaining the law.

Anti-FGM campaigners hailed the decision. The Women’s Amendment Bill 2023 was in the House since last year. None of its provisions was passed.

In a statement, the government said it had demonstrated its commitment to protect women and girls against harmful practices.

“This vote reaffirms The Gambia Government’s commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of women and girls throughout the country,” read a statement by the Ministry of Information.

Despite the ban on the practice, it remains widespread in the country, according to campaigners. Last year, FGM became a hot topic after three women were convicted of subjecting girls to the practice, and the case sparked criticism from a section of influential religious scholars.

Monday’s vote came after a joint committee of health and gender experts submitted a report containing recommendations against repealing the law.

The amendment Bill, spearheaded by an independent lawmaker, initially had huge backing from the House. In its first reading, it received 46 votes, out of the 53 lawmakers, with one abstaining.

Then a massive public campaign by anti-FGM campaigners ensued nationwide, leading to the constitution of a committee of experts to look into the impact of the practice.

After Monday’s decision, a group of religious scholars staged a brief march in the streets and prayed for people they said are seeking to destroy the country through anti-Islam laws.

Man serving life sentence takes online course in law to sue Texas prison for depriving him of sleep

0

ichael Garrett, a felon serving a life sentence since 1994, has committed his time in prison to completing online law classes as he battles the Texas prison system over sleep deprivation.

Garrett, 54, sued the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) more than a decade ago while he was housed at McConnell Unit in South Texas, claiming prison conditions amount to “cruel and unusual punishment” and violate his Eighth Amendment rights.

The plaintiff, who has been convicted of aggravated robbery, aggravated sexual assault, and theft, claims that due to frequent security checks in the prison, he often gets only around four hours of sleep per night, as reported by Texas Observer.

In his 9-by-5-foot cell shared with another inmate, bedtime starts at 10:30 pm, but he experiences disruptions like bright hallway lights, slamming doors, and noise from neighboring cells, making it difficult to rest.

Inmates like Garrett face disrupted sleep patterns due to mandatory headcounts at 1 am and 2 am, to which inmates are expected to respond verbally, as reported by the Mail. They are compelled to wake up once again at 2 am for breakfast with the day interrupted by programming, check-ins, and appointments.

Aside from the noise from fellow prisoners and guards throughout the day, Garrett says the moment he attempts to take a nap, the sleep schedule is disrupted with another head count. Due to frequent interruptions during the night, Garrett says he is now suffering from migraines, high blood pressure, and seizures.

To address this, he started pursuing online law classes to advocate for a change in the prison schedule, intending to secure a guaranteed six hours of uninterrupted sleep each night.

Garrett filed his initial lawsuit against the TDCJ in 2013 and represented himself with a strong grasp of legal proceedings. Federal district court judges ruled against Garrett three times, saying that there was no constitutional right to sleep in prison and that he failed to prove his lack of sleep directly caused his medical conditions. Despite initial setbacks and the rulings against him by federal district court judges, Garrett’s persistence paid off when he won three appeals in higher court, the conservative Fifth Circuit.

His impressive legal knowledge has earned praise from seasoned attorneys. “He knows the rules. He knows the hurdles that lawyers face. He’s patient, and he is in it for the long term,” criminal defense attorney, Naomi Howard, told the Texas Observer. “I mean, the man survived the Fifth Circuit without any help from me.”

Garrett has conducted extensive legal research, writing, and filings from his prison cell and the prison’s law library throughout his lawsuit against the TDCJ. Howard started working with Garrett before his second civil trial, pro bono.

It is yet to be known what will happen with Garrett’s case against the prison system. After the Fifth Circuit ruled in favor of Garrett in March, the state has not revealed whether it plans to continue to appeal, as reported by the Texas Observer.

“I knew [the suit] was going to be a long road. But I didn’t think it was going to be this long,” said felon Garrett, who is now housed in the Estelle Unit in Huntsville.

Lionel Messi: What Argentina Captain Said Before Enzo Fernandez and Co. Sang Racist Chants

Enzo Fernandez’s ill-advised decision to film himself after Argentina’s Copa America triumph has backfired spectacularly.

The midfielder has been the centre of attention all week due to a controversial video that has been deemed racist and discriminatory.

According to Goal, Fernandez has since issued a heartfelt apology after the footage gained traction and sparked widespread condemnation. However, his apology has done little to water down the fallout.

Many of his Chelsea teammates have publicly distanced themselves from him.

Defender Wesley Fofana criticised Enzo’s actions on X (formerly Twitter), and several other colleagues unfollowed him on Instagram.

In the interim, Chelsea has launched an internal disciplinary investigation, and the French Football Federation has filed a legal complaint.

Despite widespread condemnation, the 23-year-old has received support from some compatriots, with Argentina’s vice president Victoria Villarruel defending him and the team.

What did Lionel Messi say before Enzo Fernandez’s racist chant?

Rodrigo de Paul, Fernandez’s Argentina teammate, revealed what Lionel Messi told the squad before the incident.

According to the Atletico Madrid midfielder, Messi, who was not on the team bus during the filming, had cautioned his teammates against taunting any opponent.

“When the [Copa America] final ended, Messi came, and the first thing he said was, ‘Nobody taunts anyone. Let’s celebrate and enjoy our victory,'” de Paul told Clarin, as quoted by Tribuna.

In hindsight, had the rest of the La Albiceleste squad heeded the advice of the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, they, especially Fernandez, might have avoided making headlines for the wrong reasons.

What are the potential punishments Enzo Fernandez could face?

Relatedly, YEN.com.gh reported that embattled Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez could face a 12-match ban for his involvement in a racist chant, according to a sports lawyer.

Udo Onwere indicated that despite Fernandez’s unacceptable behaviour, Chelsea would likely prioritize financial considerations.

Onwere also suggested that if the FA intervenes, Fernandez is more likely to receive a ban

Ballon d’Or 2024: Neymar Explains Why Vinicius Jr Deserves to Win Coveted Prize, “There’s No One”

0

Brazil and Al-Hilal superstar Neymar Junior has publicly backed his compatriot, Vinicius Junior, for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award, asserting that “no one” deserves the prestigious accolade more than him.

The former Barcelona forward praised Vinicius for his exceptional performance over the past season, which saw the zippy winger play a crucial role in Real Madrid’s success in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Neymar backs Vinicius to win Ballon d’Or
Neymar emphasised Vini’s significant contribution and resilience, highlighting his stellar club campaign.

“I love Vini. He had a great season and truly embodied ‘jogo bonito.’ I’ll definitely be rooting for him to win the Ballon d’Or,” Neymar said in an interview with Band Sports, as cited by Tribuna.

According to Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old was involved in 35 goals, scoring 24 and providing 11 assists across 39 appearances in all competitions during the 2023-24 season.

Despite an injury setback early in the season, he returned to form and was instrumental in driving Carlo Ancelotti’s men to success.

While Vini Jr. excelled at club level, he faced challenges replicating his form with Brazil, as the Selecao exited the Copa America at the quarter-final stage.

However, Neymar believes this does not overshadow his compatriot’s deservingness of the Ballon d’Or.

“There’s no one else who deserves it more. He’s a fighter who has overcome a lot and exceeded all expectations and criticisms.

Who are Vinicius Junior’s rivals for the 2024 Ballon d’Or?
Vinicius Junior will face tough competition for the 2024 Ballon d’Or prize despite Neymar’s endorsement.

Key contenders include his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham and Spain’s Rodri.

Rodri, in particular, has gained attention after being named the Player of the Tournament at the Euros, where he played a pivotal role in Spain’s victory.

Additionally, Lautaro Martinez, who had an outstanding season with Inter Milan and won the Copa America, is also considered a strong candidate.

How does Ballon d’Or voting work?
With various names being considered for the Golden Ball Award, YEN.com.gh explains the voting process.

It starts with the editors of France Football revealing a list of 30 nominees for each main category.

Has Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo, Failed? Absolutely Not

Has Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo, Failed? Absolutely Not.

I Write What I Like

20.07.2024

By Daimone Siulapwa

In the last few days, criticism has been levied against the Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo, accusing her of failing in her duties.

However, such accusations fail to take into account the complex and multi-faceted challenges she has faced since assuming office.

The difficulties encountered by the Ministry of Health regarding the procurement and supply of medicines can be attributed to several significant factors, many of which were beyond Masebo’s immediate control.

*Inherited debt from the Patriotic Front (PF) Government*

Firstly, the UPND government inherited an enormous debt from the PF administration.

This legacy of financial mismanagement left suppliers disgruntled and unwilling to continue providing essential medical supplies.

It is a well-known fact that unpaid debts can cripple any procurement system, and the health sector was no exception. When the UPND took over, these suppliers boycotted supply, leading to immediate shortages and exacerbating an already dire situation.

*Suspension of Procurement Staff*

Secondly, in an attempt to address rampant corruption, the UPND made a critical decision to suspend the entire procurement staff on suspicion of gross corruption.

While the intention was noble, the execution was flawed. The blanket suspension without an immediate replacement plan led massive disruptions in the procurement process.

This vacuum created delays and inefficiencies that further strained the supply chain of medical necessities.

*Transition to ZAMMSA*

Another pivotal change was the transfer of the procurement of medicines from the Ministry of Health to the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).

Such a significant shift should have been executed gradually to ensure a seamless transition.

Instead, the abrupt changeover caused confusion and operational hiccups, further complicating an already challenging environment.

The new system needed time to stabilize and align with the demands of the health sector.

*Changing 90% of Medicine Suppliers*

Moreover, the move to change almost 90% of medicine suppliers created additional hurdles.

Establishing new supplier relationships is a complex process that involves negotiating terms, ensuring compliance with regulations, and building trust.

The sudden overhaul led to delays in supply as new suppliers struggled to meet the demands.

Additionally, this transition period was marked by over-procurement in an attempt to cover the supply gaps, leading to storage and payment complications.

*Misplaced Blame and Responsibility*

Given these challenges, it is unjust to place the blame solely on Minister Sylvia Masebo.

The role of a minister is to oversee policy, while the implementation lies with the technocrats.

The Minister of Health provides strategic direction, but the actual execution of procurement policies is under the purview of ZAMMSA, which works independently and does not fall under the Ministry of Health.

It is important recognize that the board of ZAMMSA bears significant responsibility for the operational inefficiencies and should be held accountable for the failures in the supply chain.

All in all,  Minister Sylvia Masebo has not failed. She has been navigating a minefield of inherited issues, systemic corruption, and operational missteps made in the haste to reform a broken system.

It is essential to distinguish between policy oversight and operational execution.

The Ministry of Health, under Masebo’s leadership, has faced unprecedented challenges, and while there have been missteps, the blame should not be placed solely on her shoulders.

The focus should now be on addressing these systemic issues, ensuring a smooth operational framework within ZAMMSA, and holding the appropriate parties accountable for the failures in the supply chain.

Minister Sylvia Masebo deserves recognition for her efforts in a tumultuous environment, not unwarranted criticism.

HH MUST ACT DECISIVELY
…you can’t fight corruption with individuals who fear if
they confront thieves they’ll also be exposed – Sikaile

By Ernest Chanda(The Mast)

UNLESS the President presses harder on his team the fight against corruption will remain a joke, warns good governance activist Sikaile Sikaile.

He says President Hakainde Hichilema needs to assemble very committed and serious citizens to pursue “these criminals if he wants to achieve anything in the fight against corruption”.

Commenting on Dr O’Brien Kaaba’s statement which has resulted in the removal of Anti-Corruption Commission director general Tom Shamakamba, Sikaile said corruption is a cartel whose influence begins with “big guys up there”.

“From the officers who investigate these cases to the judge who passes judgment, there must be seriousness. Otherwise, we will continue to see corruption increase. The UPND government has many progressive achievements, but when it comes to the fight against corruption, they are average and risk going below average if the President doesn’t step in quickly. You cannot fight corruption with individuals who fear that if they confront thieves they will also be exposed,” he told The Mast. “Some individuals come with rich CVs that the President thinks he is appointing on merit but it is essential to scrutinise these individuals to see if they put Zambia first and understand the President’s vision. It is difficult to work with people who don’t understand your vision in any organisation. The UPND government lost its way the moment it agreed to negotiate with criminals. Criminals who steal public resources are no different from murderers who kill with a gun, and they deserve severe punishment. To me, that amnesty law is the most useless piece of legislation that cannot be tolerated in a serious nation. It is a law that protects criminals. The government may argue that they are saving public resources, but the fact is that they are grooming more criminals who will come to terrorise public resources again. Just look at the Auditor General’s report and the FIC (Financial Intelligence Centre) first-quarter report. Who are the people facilitating these illicit activities? High government officials. There are some bad characters.”

Sikaile said a foreigner cannot get anything out of Zambia without a Zambian knowing. “This is why public office bearers need to be checked time and again. We cannot keep getting more indebted and begging when money is being stolen within our nation. Unless the President presses harder on his team in the government, the fight against corruption in Zambia will remain a joke. Because of the lack of seriousness in this fight, criminals who went into hiding after 2021 have resurfaced because they have money to fight President Hakainde Hichilema,” Sikaile said. “Fighting corruption is a tough job that requires dedication and commitment. It has been almost three years since the UPND government was formed, and several arrests have been made, and separate courts to deal with financial crimes were established. But how many convictions has the government secured? The people assigned to deal with these issues are the serious problem. Some criminals even receive intelligence information before the President. This is why you see mischievous characters from the past administration laughing at President Hakainde Hichilema because they know how corruption moves.”

He insisted that the UPND government lost track in the fight against corruption the moment they started negotiating with criminals

“The revelations coming from inside the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) are not shocking to some of us. This is why we have repeatedly appealed to higher authorities for changes. The ACC in its current state is like a computer infected by viruses transmitted through sharing contaminated files. In my 10 years of activism in good governance and human rights, I have observed that corruption is the biggest enemy to progress and development. Corruption silently kills millions of citizens to benefit a few individuals. This is why some of us fought against president Edgar Lungu and his colleagues for their rampant corruption, which deprived millions of citizens of decent living standards. Unlike President Hakainde Hichilema, former president Edgar Lungu encouraged his people to steal under the ‘ubomba mwibala’ campaign,” he said. “Before and after ascending to the presidency, President Hakainde Hichilema made brilliant pronouncements that inspired hope in the fight against corruption. However, these efforts have been undermined by some individuals serving in his administration. This whole problem can only be solved by the President. The people being appointed to these duties, do they care about the nation? What is their life history? Yes, some have impressive CVs that make the President think they are meritorious candidates, but do they have Zambia at heart and do they understand the President’s vision? These are issues that I would advise the President to reflect on whenever assigning individuals to public institutions. It will make his work easier because he will not be asked questions that can be answered by the ministers of finance, health, agriculture, tourism or commerce. There is a lack of seriousness in some of these individuals, making the ground for corruption fertile.”

Sikaile said he has had firsthand experience with “this lack of seriousness by some people who should be at the forefront of protecting the integrity of the President”.

“For example, early last year, I was approached by some farmers in Kaputa district who complained about their stolen fertiliser during the 2022-2023 farming season. We began our investigation and gathered all the evidence needed to prosecute and win a criminal case. I took the findings to someone serving in a very important position at State House that gives the President firsthand information. After three months without feedback, I called this individual, who told me, ‘we are very busy’. I questioned them, busy with what when your boss is being insulted because of these issues where some people are circulating propaganda that he has failed to give farmers fertiliser? I reminded this person that these problems will continue affecting local people because the criminals have not been caught,” Sikaile narrated. “Later on, I was referred to the ACC director. Wanting to help the poor farmers, I submitted all the evidence and details to make the ACC’s work easier. To date, I have received no feedback, and this case died a natural death. Those criminals are likely still oppressing poor farmers who strive to feed the country. Another incident involved the teachers’ recruitment. I gathered credible intelligence about some civil servants selling job opportunities to teachers. I provided this information to a cabinet minister (name withheld), but the minister never bothered to follow up. Honestly, if people close to the President are behaving like this in the fight against corruption, how can we as ordinary citizens fight corruption with our bare hands?”

Sikaile reminded President Hichilema that effective leadership and comprehensive legal reforms are essential in the fight against corruption.

“Ensure that leaders at all levels must set a high ethical standard, leading by example to demonstrate their commitment to integrity. When top officials maintain impeccable ethical standards, it creates a culture of accountability and inspires others to follow suit which is lacking in some people within the government. In tandem with strong leadership, judicial reforms are critical to ensure an independent, efficient, and capable judiciary that can swiftly and fairly handle corruption cases,” said Sikaile. “Legal reforms should focus on providing the judiciary with the necessary resources and independence to operate without political interference. This dual approach of strong ethical leadership and robust legal frameworks will create a formidable barrier against corruption, ensuring that those who engage in corrupt practices are held accountable and deterred from future misconduct. In conclusion, President Hakainde Hichilema must act decisively and urgently. The fight against corruption is crucial for Zambia’s development, and without serious commitment from his team, this battle will be lost completely.”

Munji Habeenzu, The Once Powerful Figure At Community House

0

MUNJI, THE ONCE POWERFUL FIGURE AT COMMUNITY HOUSE

Munji Habeenzu was not until the $62 million ZMSSA saga revelation a prominent figure at Community House, President Hakainde Hichilema’s residence.

Community House is now the official residence of the current Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema. He did not move into the State presidential residence called Nkwazi House which is located within State House.

President Hichilema is driven everyday to State House for work and sometimes operates from Community House.

So Habeezu operated the diary of the President Hichilema at Community House. He was in short the Principle Private Secretary based at Community House while Bradford Machila is the Principle Private Secretary at State House.

Habeenzu was a powerful figure at Community House just like Machila at State House because the two manages the President’s diary.

A number of people especially from the party who could not access President Hichilema opted to try and access him through Community House.

This was not as easy as they thought it would be. They thought since the main man Habeenzu is from the party, UPND unlike Machila who is from MMD and a business friend of Hichilema Community House would be an easy entry.

Habeenzu is a long time UPND member who at one time served as member of Parliament for Chikankata in Southern Province.

The complaints from a number of UPND members is that Habeenzu has not been helpful at all. “He doesn’t pick calls,” is the complaint from his fellow UPND Supporters. But he is not the only one who doesn’t pick calls, a number of them including those we as Zambian Eye interacted closely have become unavailable. This is typical of politicians.

The information we have is that Habeenzu has been fired from his position following the ZAMMSA saga revelation. His dismissal has not been made public because just like many other supporting staff at both State House and Community House, he was not sworn in.

Since early hours of Friday when the news filtered out, Social media is awash with celebrations. His dismissal has been received with celebrations.

Some UPND officials have publicly mocked Habeenzu saying he is now trying to call the people whose calls he never picked.

One top UPND Official at the party Headquarters who has been trying to meet President Hichilema since 2021, told us that Habeenzu blocked him despite him being her junior.

“You can’t believe that I have not been able to meet the President since we won elections. He (HH) doesn’t pick my calls. In my last attempt at Community House, I was blocked by Munji,” complained the UPND top official.

A number of UPND members appointed into government have detached themselves from their fellow members. There now seem to be two groups those appointed who interacts amongst themselves and those not appointed who are complaining day and night.

These complainants forced President Hichilema a few months ago to come out in the party blog to calm the situation.

So there are many “Munji Habeenzus” UPND members are not happy with because of the way they conduct themselves when given privilege positions.

It’s self-deception for HH and the UPND to celebrate and fool themselves that they have been winning by-elections- Fred M’membe

SHAMELESS ELECTORAL FRAUD

It’s self-deception for Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND to celebrate and fool themselves that they have been winning by-elections. They have not been winning; they have been purchasing and stealing elections.

They have been dishing out huge amounts of money, mealie-meal, maize, fertilisers, and so on and so forth. This is spiced with violence, intimidation, and threats. Poor voters are threatened with removal from the social cash transfer lists if they don’t vote for them. Financially desperate voters are threatened with removal from CDF loans or grants lists if they don’t vote for them. They collect their  voters cards and NRCs and assign UPND cadres to “assist” them vote.

Mr Hichilema and the UPND are completely annihilating our electoral process. The credibility of our elections is gone. These by-elections are nothing but a huge fraud by political fraudsters.

We participate in these fraudulent by-elections not necessarily to win them; they give us an opportunity to interact, communicate, and discourse with our people.

But what happens when elections are fraudulent and discredited in this way?
They seem to think and behave as if the only democratic procedure for people choosing their leaders were THOSE fraudulent electoral processes, so often prostituted to falsify the will and the interests of the people and so many times used to put into office the most inept and most shrewd, rather than the most competent and the most honest. As if after so many fraudulent elections, as if after so much false and treacherous politicking, as if after so much corruption the people could be made to believe that the only democratic procedure for a people to choose their leaders were these fraudulent electoral procedures.

And as if any other procedure were not democratic  –  procedures through which a people choose their leaders not with a pencil but with the sacrifices of fellow compatriots.
When the electoral process is a fraud, people will think outside the box to express their will. They become more revolutionary in their thinking and approaches.

Realities do not arise in the world through someone’s whim. Revolutions, real revolutions, do not arise by the will of one person or one group. Revolutions are realities that obey other realities. Revolutions are remedies  – bitter remedies, yes. But at times, revolution is the only remedy that can be applied to evils even more bitter.

M’membe asks HH to halt bribery scheme going on at State Chambers

M’membe asks HH to halt bribery scheme going on at State Chambers

By Thomas Ngala

AFTER seeing the “resignation” of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) director general Tom Shamakamba, Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe feels that Solicitor General Marshal Muchende, “whose corrupt activities are equally known throughout ACC and other law enforcement agencies” should follow suit.

Dr M’membe based his assertions on Dr O’Brien Kaaba’s (a member of the ACC board) allegations that state chambers were in the forefront of looting public resources.

Dr Kaaba, in his statement added that this has put all law enforcement agencies in an awkward situation as state chambers ought to be an ally in fighting corruption.

“No serious crusade against corruption can yield fruits when the heart of the legal machinery for government is contaminated. The level of corruption is sickening to the extent that state chambers are the ones looking for litigants to sue the government and pre-agree to settle or enter consent orders involving huge sums of money,” he said. “The scheme has been perfected to the extent that some orders are now signed using judges outside Lusaka to avoid public scrutiny and media attention in Lusaka. The President needs to do two things: a) dismiss his senior legal advisors and b) either set up a commission of inquiry or authorise a special audit into all the high value payments authorized by state chambers in the last three years.”

Dr Kaaba also said it is a mistake to expect ACC to be an effective tool for fighting corruption in its current form.

“It is a captured institution. The forces that are ripping off the state resources through state chambers also have their stranglehold on ACC. It is no wonder the media has been reporting that the ACC management has simply cut off the board from decision making at the ACC. If the media reports are true, the ACC is not accountable to its board but to the same corrupt elements looting public resources. This suggests the capture is so complete and corruption reigns with impunity,” he said.

Dr Kaaba advised President Hakainde Hichilema to consider setting up a commission of inquiry to find out the depth of the problem.

But Dr M’membe said, in a statement, that it would be highly hypocritical and a mockery for President Hichilema to let go of Shamakamba but retain Muchende.

He said just like Shamakamba, Muchende is severely soiled with corruption, and they both deserve to be arrested and prosecuted immediately, “if indeed President Hichilema is serious with the crusade against corruption”.

“Even if, we highly doubt if Mr Hichilema can take such a bold step insofar as addressing Mr Muchende’s corruption. We say this because on August 21, 2023, we raised concern over Mr Hichilema’s silence and attempts by the State House to block the ACC bribery investigation on Mr Muchende. We were aware that the ACC had placed a restriction order on the property believed to belong to Mr Muchende over allegations that the Solicitor General received a sum of over US $500,000 as a bribe – and much more – from a named former liquidator. We were also reliably informed about the frantic attempts from State House to get the restriction order lifted and the investigations into Mr Muchende’s alleged involvement in corruption thwarted or frustrated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr M’membe asked why there was panic and desperation at State House over Muchende’s investigation.

He further asked who Muchende is to President Hichilema.

“What is their relationship? What past business/political or other dealings have Mr Hichilema and Mr Muchende done together? Since there is a traceable history between the two, isn’t Mr Hichilema compromised in this matter? We raised the questions above as a way of reminding this corrupt regime, and Mr Hichilema, in particular that his continued silence on this matter is eroding the people’s trust and confidence in the country’s justice system,” said Dr M’membe. “To date, there has been no response to our questions and nothing has happened to Mr Muchende. Only Mr Hichilema knows why he has kept such a tainted person in the state chambers. It is high time Mr Hichilema halted the corruption and bribery scheme going on in the state chambers by discharging Mr Muchende from public office.”

OUR FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION SHALL BE PROFESSIONALLY EXECUTED AND NOT ON MERE ALLEGATIONS – HH

July 19th, 2024

Kafue – President Hakainde Hichilema pledged to combat corruption during his address at the Zambia National Service (ZNS) graduation ceremony for 459 newly commissioned officers.

Hichilema highlighted the necessity of thorough investigations before taking legal action against corruption.

“We have vowed to fight corruption of yesterday, today, and tomorrow,” Hichilema stated. “But we shall do it professionally, not on mere allegations.”

The mood at the pass-out parade was one of palpable excitement and pride. Families and friends of the graduates filled the air with enthusiastic cheers and applause, celebrating the significant milestone in the officers’ careers. The newly commissioned officers stood tall and proud in their uniforms, their faces reflecting a mix of determination and joy.

Hichilema urged the new officers to serve as role models in rejecting corruption and emphasized the importance of integrity.

“If you are found on the wrong side of corruption, you are on your own. This is as simple as that,” he warned.

He called for vigilance against corrupt practices, encouraging officers to gather concrete evidence before acting or sharing information publicly.

The parade ground was a sea of vibrant colors, with the national flag waving proudly against the clear sky.

The atmosphere was charged with a sense of patriotic duty, as the cadets marched in unison, showcasing their rigorous training and discipline.

The band played stirring military tunes, adding to the festive yet solemn ambiance of the ceremony.

Hichilema also highlighted the officers’ role in supporting food production amidst drought conditions, urging them to contribute to national needs.

The President expressed gratitude to the training staff and national service leadership, emphasizing teamwork in national development.

He praised the inclusion of over 160 women among the 462 cadets and shared personal anecdotes to highlight the value of discipline and resilience learned through military training.

ZNS Commander Maliti Solocci urged the newly commissioned officers to wear their uniforms with pride, seeing them as a badge of honor that symbolizes their commitment to sacrifice for Mother Zambia.

“As we deploy you, ensure that you provide leadership to your subordinates that inspires them to contribute more to the transformation of your respective units,” Solocci advised.

“You will find personnel who are more experienced than you. Be receptive to advice and quick to learn.”

He emphasized the importance of maintaining high levels of discipline and refraining from any involvement in active politics.

“Respect is a two-way street. If you don’t respect your juniors, they will not respect you,” Solocci warned.

“Always remember to support the government of the day, as loyalty is the hallmark of people in the military.”

He called on the newly graduated officers maintain high levels of discipline and a reaffirm commitment to integrity and accountability in public service.

Former Germany defender Jérôme Boateng fined as years long assault case concludes

0

Former Germany and Bayern Munich defender Jérôme Boateng was convicted Friday (Jul. 19) of causing bodily harm to his former partner and was handed a suspended fine and a warning as a years-long domestic abuse case came to an end.

Judge Susanne Hemmerich, who presided over a retrial that started last month, said Boateng will pay a fine of 200,000 euros ($220,000) if he commits another offense. However, as part of the conditions for the sentence he has to pay 50,000 euros ($55,000) each to two children’s charities.

Hemmerich had halted the proceedings on the first day of the trial, urging both parties to find an agreement to spare the former couple’s two daughters from the public scrutiny surrounding the case.

“The real victims in this case are the children in my opinion,” Hemmerich said Friday in comments reported by news agency dpa.

It was the fourth time Boateng went on trial on the same charges of assault against his former partner Sherin Senler. Boateng has always denied the charges.

Legal saga
The charges against Boateng were first brought in 2019. Boateng denied hitting and injuring Senler in July 2018 when they were on vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

In September 2021, Boateng was found guilty of domestic violence against Senler and ordered to pay a fine of 1.8 million euros, the highest possible financial damages that could be imposed by the Munich District Court. In November 2022, he was convicted of assault and ordered to pay 1.2 million euros to Senler, but that decision was overturned at a regional court because of legal errors and the process had to be restarted.

Boateng also faces allegations of assault against another former girlfriend, Kasia Lenhardt, in 2019.

Which his attorney rejects.

The investigation was closed in 2020 after Lenhardt decided not to provide any more incriminating statements, but it was reopened following her death in February 2021 when authorities received new information from police. Lenhardt, a model, was found dead in a Berlin apartment. Police said they found no evidence of outside involvement.

Boateng played 76 games for Germany. He joined Austrian team Linz in May.

VEDANTA WINS KUDOS…..for depositing $245.75m to clear KCM debts and one-off bonus to employees

VEDANTA WINS KUDOS

…..for depositing $245.75m to clear KCM debts and one-off bonus to employees

Lusaka… Saturday July 20, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The Zambians for Unity Peace and Development (ZUPED) has praised Vedanta Resources for depositing $245.75 million to clear Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) debts and one-off bonus to employees.

Vedanta Resources Holdings Limited today confirmed that it has deposited US$245.75 million into an escrow account as designated by the High Court.

ZUPED President Ronnie Jere says this is the step in the right direction as it will help the contractors and suppliers who have been struggling financially.

Mr Jere says with this development, Vedanta will take full control of KCM and be able to appoint the board and management to run the mining firm.

He said this commitment coming from Vedanta is encouraging as they have fulfilled their earlier pledge to settle the arrears owed to contractors and suppliers by owed by KCM.

“We have no doubt that these funds released will have a positive impact on the local economy. We further believe that this is a transformation that the people of Zambia want. Not long ago, we heard of some workers from companies contracted by KCM of going for months without salaries, this we believe will help in paying those workers,” he said.

“With Vedanta taking over the operations of KCM, they will now appoint the board and management of KCM to overlook the operations of the mining firm for the benefits of the country.”

He said with the government setting a target of producing over 3 million metric tonnes of copper production over the next ten years, KCM will help in reaching that target.

The ZUPED President indicated that the funds released will also go a long way in providing a once off payment to the employees of KCM.

“Not long ago, we saw the signing of five collective agreements with between KCM and it’s workers unions. This shows that the investor values the workers at KCM and has their best interest,” he added.

Mr Jere indicated that these funds will further help and support local communities to undertake various community projects in areas such as education, health, agriculture and other important sectors.

MK members march over election rigging in South Africa

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) embarked on a march in Durban on Wednesday calling for a recount of votes of the May 29 national and general elections.

After its abrupt decision to pull the plug on its vote-rigging court case recently, the MKP vowed to launch another court bid with the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC).

The march of MKP members, who braved the scorching sun, started at King Dinuzulu Park through Pixley KaSeme Street (West Street) to the Durban City Hall. Among the marchers was prominent MKP member and a former MKP national youth convenor, Bonginkosi Khanyile.

Upon arriving at City Hall, the MKP handed their memorandum to IEC officials. One of the march organisers, Bongani Khoza, who is also MKP KZN co-ordinator, said the party has “compelling proof of vote-rigging”.

Khoza said that according to their internal investigations, they should have received more than 9 millions votes.

The party became the third largest in the country with more than 4.5 million votes, behind the DA and the ANC.

“The vote rigging is real and we have proof of that,” Khoza said.

“All we are saying is that the IEC must be truthful and tell us about the stolen votes because there are stolen votes.

“If you look at how people vote you could see the pattern that the MKP got the most votes both in the province and nationally.

“If we have to march several times we will do that until we are heard. We cannot allow blatant corruption to go on like this,” Khoza said.

Khanyile, who was previously removed from MKP youth structures, said the party would not rest until the stolen votes had been returned.

“All we are asking for is a recount so that our stolen votes can return. If the IEC fails to do that we are calling for fresh elections.

“South African people spoke on May 29 and they cannot be ignored. People showed that the only party that represents their interests is the MK Party,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Court has agreed to hear the MK Party’s matter later this month, challenging the results of the recent general elections. This is despite the party withdrawing its bid before the court.
