Of some PF MPs making alarming statements!

We’ve said it time and again; we shall still echo the same sentiments – the Patriotic Front (PF) is tribal to the core!

Why do we say so?

Instead of the PF leadership leaving the Police to conduct thorough investigations during the “abduction” of Jay Jay Banda and inform the nation accordingly, they quickly bring in the issue of tribe. Some of the utterances issued by some PF MPs at their press briefing yesterday have the potential to not only erode the spirit of our “One Zambia One Nation” motto as envisaged by our forefathers, but also easily turn our rivers red with blood, make our streets littered with decomposing corpses as vast acreage of land is opened-up for mass graves to accommodate great numbers of our people as a result of tribal wars!

“We shall also declare Eastern province a “No Go” area for your tribesmen and women,” cautioned Munir Zulu. “Let the Northerners be in the North; we the Easterners shall be in East……Let the Southerners be in the South!”

What a careless and irresponsible statement to make! Who is Munir Zulu to confine certain ethnic groupings to specific locations within this country? Zulu is simply whipping up people’s emotions and stoking the flames of tribalism which may engulf this nation and consume everything in its path!

At the same event, Maureen Mabonga, the Mfuwe constituency MP claimed that the hatred that is being targeted at the Bembas and the easterners is getting out of hand.

She further warned that, “the Bembas, the easterners are larger in numbers. They may have the state machinery (meaning UPND). How many police officers do we have? We Bembas and the easterners have the numbers.”

Madam Mabonga this is tantamount to a declaration of tribal wars! How would our citizens in the villages surely interpret this message? They’d definitely take it that certain tribes are mightier than the others. Don’t be surprised if our people shall soon resort to going after each other’s throats as a result of your prompting.

We’d like to call upon the police to demonstrate that they are firmly in charge by bringing in the two said individuals for questioning. They’ve just gone way too far!

As for the Petauke Central Member of Parliament, Jay Jay Banda this writer won’t be swayed by emotions and comment anyhow but rather leave the police to do their work. And as the police invite Banda to assist them with investigations, please consider procuring Lie Detectors as well, just in case you don’t have the same, to help you establish the truth, and nothing but the truth. You may be dealing with complicated and crafty individuals who may be upto no good. Remember what Edgar Lungu had hinted at….that 2026 might be too far. Open your eyes and ears wider!

THE OFFENCE OF SEDITION IS REPUGNANT: SHOULD NEVER BE IN ZAMBIA’S STATUTES 60 YEARS AFTER INDEPENDENCE

Zambia Police issued a statement today informing the Nation that my human rights advocate friend, Brebner Changala, has been arrested and detained in custody awaiting court appearance for the offence of sedition.

As I have said time and time again, the offence of sedition should never be in the statutes of a independent country that prides itself of upholding human rights.

Several Commonwealth States have repealed their sedition laws. Among them Kenya (1997), Ghana (2001), New Zealand (2007), the United
Kingdom (2009), Jamaica (2013), Maldives (2018), Sierra Leone (2020), and Singapore (2021). Many of these States have done so precisely because of the potential for, and documented experience of, abuse.

The offense of “sedition”—often characterized as criminalizing the incitement of rebellionagainst the government—is an archaic crime that is frequently used to target political speech. Introduced in the 16th century in England specifically to suppress dissent, sedition laws spread by the British Monarch through the colonies. These laws still persist in some legal systems and while there are reforms underway in some of those jurisdictions, in a fewoutliers, the offense continues to be prosecuted—and in some countries like Zambia there has been a resurgencein cases since 2022.

Sedition laws have been criticized by the United Nations, human rights experts, courts, legislatures, advocates, and others for being a weapon used by governments to violate the right to freedom of expression.

The significant criminal penalties that usually accompany sedition laws have a chilling effect on political debate and can undermine democratic processes.

On their face, most sedition laws share several commonalities. Notably, in countries like Zambia, they do not require any evidence that alleged seditious speech would likely incite violence. The Zambian sedition law is vague and overbroad, allowing it to be misused and manipulated to suppress free
speech.

In recent years, regional courts have also confirmed that sedition laws—among other laws restricting criticism of a government—violate international human rights standards where those laws impose overbroad and unfettered restrictions on free expression.

For instance, in 2018, the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (“ECOWAS Court”) considered a case brought by four Gambian journalists who had been convicted for the offenses of sedition, false news, and criminal defamation under The Gambia’s Criminal Code, which broadly adopted the common law definition of seditious intention. The ECOWAS Court concluded that the law on sedition “espouses expressions
of inexactitude which are also so broad as to be capable of diverse subjective interpretations,” therefore amounting to “inacceptable instances of gross violation of free
speech and freedom of expression.”

The ECOWAS Court held that The Gambia’s law on sedition violated international standards and ordered The Gambia to “immediately repeal
and/or amend” the law.

Similarly, in 2019, the East African Court of Justice (“EACJ”) held that Tanzania’s sedition offense “failed the test of clarity and certainty required” and “hinged on the possible and potential subjective reactions of audiences to whom the publication is made. This makes it
all but impossible, for a journalist or other individual, to predict and thus plan their actions.”

The EACJ also held that the penalty for sedition (a custodial sentence) would be disproportionate unless the government put forward “serious and very exceptional circumstance for example, incitement to international crimes, public incitement to hatred, discrimination or violence.”

Accordingly, the EACJ held that the relevant provisions were incompatible with the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community and ordered Tanzania to take the necessary measures to amend its laws to bring them into
compliance.

Usually, these laws are weaponised by a parties in government to punish opposition leaders. Perhaps it high time opposition Members of Parliament considered moving a private member’motion to repeal the sedition laws. Otherwise the cycle of weaponizing these laws against opposition leaders will continue from one government to another.

NO CRIMINAL SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HIDE IN A TRIBE

Fellow countrymen and women,

The confusion you see in our country is not isolated. We have been robbed by our own fellow citizens, much like we were during the brutal slave trade. When fighting corruption, we must focus on the criminal actions of the individuals involved, not their tribe. Thieves exist in every tribe, and this is why we need the laws of Zambia to address such individuals.

My appeal goes to the church in Zambia, which has become a hiding place for those who have stolen public resources. Church leaders, please preach what the Bible says. Financial crimes have caused millions of deaths in our country. Money meant to improve the health sector so our mothers can deliver safely is diverted by some criminals in public institutions. We need to be firm and fight this cancer.

An example we must learn from is the case of Ntumpa and Makasa University in the Northern Circuit. This illustrates how heartless PF was, stealing from the same people who gave them 100% of their votes. When the government finds someone wanting and there is evidence, let us support them so they can do better. If those universities were built there could be a lot of job opportunities for the Northern circuit, but a few thieves priotized their self interest at an expense of million local people there.

If I may ask, how many of you, my Bemba relatives from Muchinga, Northern, and Luapula, are benefiting from the looting of Ntumpa and Makasa University? A few individuals walked away with the money, and when they are asked to account for their actions, some selfish politicians want to drag all Bembas—who don’t even know how these monies were stolen and enjoyed—into a tribal war.

Let us stand firm in fighting corruption in our nation. Billions of dollars are in individuals’ pockets, especially in offshore accounts. That’s why you see people being notorious. Today, we are battling a high cost of living because we are servicing the same loans that some individuals accumulated and later shared instead of investing in our economy.

No criminal is happy that Hakainde Hichilema is the president because their looting cartels have been cut off. This is why they are determined to use any means possible to dislodge HH and his government. All these maneuvers are designed to psychologically prepare ordinary citizens to rise against the government when judgments in financial crimes cases are issued, as most of these cases are straightforward.

My warning goes to all those in the current government: fear public resources and be content with your salary. If you are engaged in any criminal activity thinking you’re smart, your time is coming, and you too shall face justice.

UPND govt lacks capacity to contain multiple battle fronts, says Sikota

By Thomas Ngala

THE UPND government in its leadership’s naivety must be aware of far reaching consequences of the move to arrest president Edgar Chagwa Lungu for no offence committed, warns United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) chairperson Sakwiba Sikota.

Sikota said in a statement that the shrinking democratic space, which he said has robbed Zambians of their freedom of expression and association, is a great source of worry for the fledgling democracy.

He said the public is aware of similar pronouncements made by President Hakainde Hichilema prior to the 2021 general elections and no charges were preferred against him.

“It is important to note that while the election day is the most important day when citizens exercise their power over national leadership at various levels, in between elections, the

Constitution confers upon the leadership rights to congregate to fine tune their ideals and reach consensus to present themselves for elections,” he said. “The denying of citizens’ rights of association and assembly to share their values to present to voters is an assault on democracy and development. Furthermore, this can potentially build in unnecessary costs of access to finance both by the sovereign, sub-sovereign and the local private sector through perceived political risk premium.”

Sikota warned of the negative narrative being painted through denying opposition parties from engaging with the general public is feeding into a higher risk premium for the country.

He said rating agencies will likely factor in this risk premium in arriving at the sovereign rating.

“This negative factor makes investors to adopt a cautionary position as fears grow that the tension being built up and sustained by the UPND government can potentially lead to civil disobedience and create a hostile environment for business, which would affect the business environment,” Sikota said. “We wish to alert the UPND government that the destruction of the independence of security agencies in general and the police in particular will lead to a negative outlook in the next rating exercise. The end result will be unnecessary costs to the general public and the business community.”

He said UKA hastens to caution the UPND government and the compromised security agencies that ‘’your actions lack ingredients of a mature deliberation and thought through wisdom’’.

“Simply put, the UPND government lacks capacity to contain multiple battle fronts. ECL will be protected by UKA and the UPND will live to regret the consequences that will follow through harassing,” warned Sikota. “For the avoidance of any doubt to President Hichilema and his IG (Graphael Musamba), we in UKA call for EARLY ELECTIONS BEFORE 2026 because our people are suffering economically, politically and spiritually under the brutal despotic UPND regime.

Below is Mr Mwale’s reflection in response to Ms. Miti’s sentiment captured from his Facebook page.
….

DEAR LAURA MITI,

My two cents on the Jay Jay saga. If it wasn’t for your writing today I would not have commented on this very sad and unfortunate saga. I have always respected and followed your writings. But this one was embarrassingly shallow, devoid of any empathy for the victim and his family.

What are we coming to as a nation? The starting point for your writing should have been on the state or condition of Jay Jay and the obvious trauma that he was in as well as the family. Whether it was staged, phony, or a political stunt by both Upnd or PF sympathizers those terrible hospital scenes clearly show that Jay Jay was in danger, he had been hurt and the family was traumatized. Why have we become so callous and inhuman?

There was absolutely no effort to respect medical professionalism or first level emergency procedures by those armed police officers. Was the protocols relating to a patient’s rights to a choice of medical treatment followed. Am presuming Jay Jay was neither under arrest nor a suspect. From where I stand what I witnessed was “Sympathetic Kidnapping by security officers “ which was still not legal!

I have been a victim of 4 armed robberies, 2 in SA and 2 in Lusaka. The last one in Lusaka in 2011. I was ambushed outside my gate , kidnapped at 21 hrs and was only released at 2am. It is a terrible experience and the worst part of the nightmare was when it took me up to 6am to convince my wife and relatives of my brush with death , of my humiliation at the hands of ruffians who were as young as my children grabbing my genitals and putting a gun to my face.

Laura dear Sister let us give space for the healing process for all of us to start . We are being torn apart as a society and it will take people like you who wield the pen which is mightier than the sword to help all of us cast our egos aside, our vitriol and toxicity so that we can reach out ,touch our souls find peace and love as Zambians. Jay Jay Banda MP is physically and mentally devastated. Whether it is by design, by conspiracy or accident is not important, he is hurt and could die. Let us be Zambians and love one another .

UPND CADRES TRAILED ME ALL AROUND KABWE ATTEMPTING TO ABDÙCT ME – BOWMAN LUSAMBO

0

.

UNITED Party for National Development UPND cadres attempted to @bduct former Lusaka Province Minister Hon Bowman Lusambo from the Kabwe Magistrate’s Court complex earlier today.

Hon Lusambo who is also former Kabushi Constituency Member of Parliament was appearing in court today in a matter he is accused of conducting an unlawful assembly when he recently stopped to buy ice cream at Hungry lion in Kabwe CBD and was thronged by jubilant Kabwe residents.

The UPND thug$ loaded in a Silver Quantum bus registration number CAC 17, three Toyota Mark X vehicles one white in color and two in black and silver came and camped outside the court waiting for Hon Lusambo to come out be taken.

The former Kabushi Lawmaker says he was only saved from the near abduct!on by officers from the office of the president who led him out of the court premises and asked him to head towards the northern direction.

He says the OP officers told that the UPND thùg$ would only leave him if he were to head in the Copperbelt direction but even after taking hid to their advise, the UPND thug$ continued to give chase until he decided to go and park at the police command in Kabwe were the officers confirmed to him that they were aware of the UPND abduct0rs pursuing him.

But Hon Lusambo wondered why dispite knowing that the UPND thug$ were after him with intentions of h@rming him the police chose to do nothing and allowed them to continue chasing and following him around.

Hon Lusambo was reliably informed that the UPND cadres were set on him by Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe who is notorious for insult!ng a Radio Caller when he appeared on an interview not long ago.

The UPND thugs who even followed him at the police command were claiming that Hon Lusambo was planning to conduct a procession and address Kabwe residents when in fact not.

The thug$ were seen physically harrasing Mr Lusambo while hauling insult$ at him in the full glare of the Police command in Kabwe.

With a record of 6,000 days in jail with 1,500 arrests, America’s most arrested man dies at 74

enry Earl, known as America’s most arrested man, has died at the age of 74. A resident of Lexington, Kentucky, Earl was arrested over 1,500 times, primarily for public intoxication. Despite his numerous run-ins with the law, Earl, nicknamed “James Brown”, became a local legend.

He was laid to rest at Owenton Cemetery last week. Earl passed away in obscurity at the Owenton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facility, where he spent his final years. With no known family, facility employees attended his funeral.

Earl began drinking at 18 after the death of his adoptive mother and started his criminal career at 20 in the 1970s. He was known for his charisma and great sense of humor, according to Daily Mail.

“He was a character, he had a wonderful sense of humor,” said Ginny Ramsey, founder of Lexington’s Catholic Action Center, who knew him for decades. She also described him as a gentle soul with a free spirit.

“We’d say now Henry Earl, you need to be in by 9:30 or 10 o’clock. The weekends you can stay out till 11. Well, he tried, but wasn’t quite ready.

“When we wouldn’t see Henry Earl for awhile, everyone would get concerned, we thought he’d die in the streets. He didn’t die in the streets,” she told LEX18.

Two employees from the Owenton Facility, who cared for Earl in his final days and attended his funeral, described him as a pleasant man who always tried to make people laugh.

Kirsten Dempsey said, “He was a very pleasant man, always a good time, always tried to make people laugh,” while Charlotte Woods joked, “You could ask him ‘what’s your name?’ and he’d say James Brown.”

Earl’s arrest history began in July 1970, when he was in his twenties, for carrying a concealed weapon, according to The Smoking Gun, which documented his criminal career. He was arrested 33 more times in that decade, with his frequency of arrests gradually increasing over the years.
In the 1980s, Earl’s arrests surged to 230, mostly for public drunkenness or disorderly conduct.

He gained national attention in 2008 when he appeared in court for his 1000th arrest for public intoxication.

‘This too, shall pass’ – Nicki Minaj gives details about her arrest ahead of Pink Friday 2 tour

Nicki Minaj filmed herself being arrested for allegedly carrying drugs while traveling from Amsterdam to Manchester for her Pink Friday 2 Tour. Despite denying the allegations, the 41-year-old rapper was told she needed to go to the police station, as shown in footage from her Instagram Live.

In the recording, a man told Minaj she would get a lawyer at the office and they would proceed quickly, as reported by Daily Mail. During the Instagram Live, Minaj claimed she was asked to get into a police van and go to the precinct without a lawyer.

She also alleged that an airport security employee requested a statement without legal representation after finding “pre-rolls” in bags they were not authorized to search. The Anaconda singer’s team has not issued a statement on what transpired during the moment, but, it remains unclear if she was booked at a police station.

A Dutch police spokesperson confirmed to NBC News that a 41-year-old American woman was arrested at Schiphol Airport for possession of soft drugs but did not name Minaj or anyone else. Before the alleged arrest, Minaj posted on X (formerly Twitter) about her bags being thoroughly searched at the airport. She claimed efforts were being made to stop her tour and speculated that items were being planted in her luggage.

Minaj also shared an Instagram video of a man explaining that police needed to inspect her bags, with an airline crew member stating that a police officer ordered all luggage to be offloaded and searched.

“I’m so sorry to say that,” he continued. She, then, asked: “But wasn’t that what you planned on doing from the get-go? Why didn’t you guys search it before it went on the plane?”

“They did just a random quick check, but now they want to open it,” he insisted.

After she asked why, he said: “First of all, because you filmed him… [and] … he doesn’t believe you that you don’t have more with you than you say.”

In Minaj’s caption, she wrote “they took my bags before I could see them” then “put it on the plane.”

“This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal,” she wrote.

Minaj’s most recent tweet, at the time of publication, claimed that she was told that she had five minutes “to make a statement about” her “security at the police precinct.”

Earlier, she had noted on X that “they said they found weed & that another group of ppl have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls.”

“Keep in mind they took my bags without consent. My security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yeah & the pilot wants me to take my ig [Instagram] post down,” she wrote.

Minaj noted on X that marijuana is legal in Amsterdam. She is currently on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour and was scheduled to perform in Manchester, England, on Saturday. However, due to issues at the airport in the Netherlands, she missed the concert.

Upon arriving in Manchester, Minaj apologized to fans on X for not being able to perform that evening.

“Please please please accept my deepest & most sincere apologies. They sure did know exactly how to hurt me today but this too, shall pass.”

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND MEDIA ON THE DECISIONS MADE BY CABINET AT THE 9TH CABINET MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY, 23RD MAY, 2024.

The President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, on Thursday, 23rd May, 2024, called for the 9th Cabinet Meeting in the Year 2024, at State House, to deliberate on economic policy matters aimed at enhancing national development in the country for the good of the general citizenry as stipulated in the Economic Agenda for the Government.

1. Update on the Implementation of the Drought Response Plan.

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, in view of the devastating effects of the drought in the country, declared the Drought as a National Disaster and Emergency on 29th February, 2024. Further, a Humanitarian Appeal was also issued on 16th April, 2024. Accordingly, the Food Security Drought Response Plan for the period April 2024 – May 2025, was developed and approved. Eighty-four (84) districts that are greatly affected by the drought were identified for urgent Government attention in terms of immediate food assistance.

Government and other stakeholders, through the cluster system have started responding both in cash and in-kind, support in all the 84 drought affected districts.

Cabinet appreciated the report from the Office of the Vice-President, through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit that so far, 84.5 % of the 84 districts, have received maize for the targeted beneficiaries under the maize distribution programme. These include, Central Province, 11 districts; Copperbelt Province, 7 districts; Eastern Province, 15 districts; Lusaka Province 6 districts; Northwestern Province, 4 districts; Southern Province 14 districts; Western Province 13 districts; and Lavushimanda district in Muchinga Province. This gives a total of 71 districts out of the 84 districts in which citizens are already benefiting from the distribution of maize. According to the programme, all the remaining districts are expected to receive their relief maize in the next seven days. Within the relief maize programme, Government has started implementing the Food for Work in these districts.

Under the community maize sales, there are 300 active selling points out of the targeted 600 depots and so far, 22,208 metric tons of maize has been sold, translating into 444,175 by 50kg bags, with over 300,000 households having benefited since Government started responding to the disaster.

In terms of support from partners, a total of K30,588,430 has been received in form of logistical support and donations of food items and other supplies. Further, Government has since continued with the mopping up of maize and so far, 1,132.30 metric tons has been purchased from Muchinga and Northern provinces. The FRA has also received a total of 14,826.63 metric tons of early maize to increase the maize stocks.

2. Second Millennium Challenge Compact

Cabinet approved the Joint Design Document (JDD), outlining the proposed projects for the second Millennium Challenge Compact for Zambia in order to pave way for the finalisation of the programme which is expected to be signed between Zambia and the Millennium Challenge Corporation in November, 2024.

This will facilitate the mobilisation of US$450 million of grant resources for investments in road infrastructure and other areas to support the growth of the agriculture and agro-processing sector. The ultimate goal is to reduce poverty and stimulate economic growth.

The three Projects in the JDD include, the Roads and Access: This is aimed at decreasing transportation costs in prioritised agriculture corridors and will also involve improving internal road infrastructure, access, and road maintenance and management. The other project is the Asset Finance: This is aimed at increasing access to finance for investment in electricity, irrigation, logistics, and processing equipment and infrastructure for agriculture value chains for both men and women owned agri-small and medium enterprises and project developers. The third project is Agriculture Policy Reform and Institutional Strengthening: This is aimed at improving institutional capacity to facilitate private sector production and trade in grains. This will also involve institutional capacity building at the Ministry of Agriculture.

3. Development of Infrastructure at Kasumbalesa Border through the Public Private Partnership.

Cabinet approved the management and development of infrastructure at Kasumbalesa Boarder through the Public Private Partnership model.

Cabinet is of the view that, in order to facilitate business at the border, it is necessary to modernise Kasumbalesa into a world class inter-country trade centre (with facilities such as a dry port, weigh bridge, warehouses, modern market and other support infrastructure). The ultimate objective is to address the current informalities of trade, infrastructure deficiencies and unstructured developments, which have continued to pose challenges to users of the facilities.

4. Hosting of the 2024 Regional Annual Sports Awards (RASA) scheduled for 25th May, 2024 in Lusaka, Zambia.

In finalising debate for the day, Cabinet approved the hosting of the 2024 Regional Annual Sports Awards (RASA) scheduled for 25th May, 2024 in Lusaka, Zambia.

The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5, Regional Annual Sport Award (RASA) is part of the Regional Rewards Programme aimed at providing a unique opportunity for the region to motivate Member States, Sports Confederations, team’s sports and individual athletes by recognising and celebrating outstanding achievements in sport. The awards are celebrated on 25th May each year.

The sports wards are held every year in order to reward deserving sportspersons within Zambia and the region, thereby leading to improved performance and promotion of the spirit of patriotism amongst them. The awards are a culmination of all member Countries awards.

The AUSC Region 5 comprises of 10-member countries namely, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

This year’s edition marks a historic milestone as Region 5 attains twenty-five years of existence. In view of this, the Region will also recognise and award 25 individuals from the 10 countries of the Region 5 who have significantly contributed to the development of sport in the Region.

FAZ CALLS FOR CALM AS CHIPOLOPOLO EYE STORM WHILE WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS LOOM

FAZ CALLS FOR CALM AS CHIPOLOPOLO EYE STORM WHILE WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS LOOM

Zambia’s national football team finds itself embroiled in controversy as it prepares for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Morocco and Tanzania.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has called for unity amidst a storm surrounding the 27 provisional squad selection for the World Cup qualifiers.

The exclusion of certain players including Saudi based player Fashion Sakala and Cletus Chama has sparked significant debate and allegations compelling FAZ to open an inquiry

The Al-Fayha striker accused Zambian coach, Avram Grant of snubbing him and other player after they refused to budge to the Coach’s bidding of signing with his Israeli compatriot Nir Karin, who is a football agent.

Sakala claimed Grant either benched or didn’t call up players that refused to sign with Karin.

Kamanga, in his weekly address to the football community, acknowledged the anxiety and unrest that followed the release of the 27-member provisional squad.

“The strong allegations made by one of our players against the coach, fellow players, and administrators require our maximum attention,” kamanga added, “We have initiated an inquiry, and for it to be effective, we expect all relevant evidence to be presented to the Ethics Committee.”

Despite these disruptions, the president emphasised the importance of not allowing the controversy to hinder the team’s preparation for their upcoming matches against Morocco and Tanzania.

“In everything we do, we must remember not to disrupt the preparation of the Chipolopolo for the two important assignments,” he urged.

Kamanga disclosed FAZ has dispatched an advance party to Agadir order to ensure a smooth transition and readiness for the Morocco match.

“The team will set up ahead of the squad’s arrival, continuing a long-standing practice in international football.”

Additionally, he said the FAZ has been coordinating with the government on the logistics and budget for these critical fixtures.

Ahead of the home game against Tanzania on June 11 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Kamanga has urged fans to demonstrate exemplary behavior during the game.

He emphasized that unruly behavior has the potential to attract sanctions from higher authorities causing disruptions to Zambian football.

“We will not tire from reminding fans to be at their best behavior as some of the ugly scenes we have seen of pelting missiles puts us at risk of heavy sanctions, including a possible ban from playing home matches in our country,” cautioned kamanga

Harry Nkumbula Foundtion; ‘ino nguni’ who killed Baldwin Nkumbula – Part 2

Harry Nkumbula Foundtion; ‘ino nguni’ who killed Baldwin Nkumbula – Part 2

As we saw last Monday, the first reason for suspecting that Baldwin Nkumbula was assassinated is that some MMD big-wigs who also wanted the republican vice presidency in the second term of president Frederick Chiluba’s rule, according to The Post newspaper, did not want him to re-join MMD to take up this post.

This suspicion makes sense, because his rivals could not beat Baldwin in any election for the vice presidency, since it was only the republican president who picked the vice president. And this president, Chiluba, was actually the one who wanted Baldwin’s return. He reportedly went as far as meeting Ila chiefs to promise that Baldwin would be vice president, tried to re-name UNZA after Baldwin’s father and threatened to sort out some MMD big-wigs who opposed Baldwin’s return.

Why did Chiluba want Baldwin so much? Well, he wanted to destroy the National Party faction, an MMD break away. Baldwin was the most popular in the faction, having beaten MMD in the Bweenga by-election and coming from Zambia’s third largest ethnic grouping, the Tonga-Ila-Lenje (Bantu Botatwe). Chiluba planned to control MMD even after leaving office, just like his hero former president Julius Nyerere controlled his party in Tanzania. So to ensure MMD remained intact, he preferred it be taken over by a Bantu-Botatwe. This must explain why when his Baldwin project failed, he later chose Levy Mwanawasa, another Bantu-Botatwe ethnic leader to succeed him.

The second reason is that assassinations were common during the Chiluba-Baldwin leadership era. Richard Ngenda, who was investigating fraud in connection with Meridien BIAO Bank, was assassinated in March 2002. Were his killers sent by MMD big-wigs who were plotting to liquidate/plunder this bank owned by Andrew Sardanis, a friend of their rival Kenneth Kaunda?

He was a lawyer when lawyers were lawyers! Imagine Ngenda launching an appeal and winning an acquittal for the-then former president Kaunda’s son Kambarage Kaunda who had been initially sentenced to death for killing Tabeth Mwanza! On Friday 6 November 1998, Ronald Penza was shot dead. But why was ‘Mr Penza-nomics’ (‘Penza-economics’, as commentators of his neo-liberal outlook mock-referred to his economic theories) shot dead just after being fired by president Chiluba as finance minister! Were his killers sent by political crooks afraid of his planning to expose KCM mine white collar crimes? Were the allegations true that there were political crooks benefitting from the chairman of Aero Zambia David Torkoph who was reportedly using Zambian airspace to fly arms to UNITA rebels in Angola in exchange for diamonds, and that Penza plotted to expose them? Wezi Kaunda, former president Kaunda’s (KK’s) son was very vocal against Chiluba’s rule. He was shot on 3 November 1999. Reports say that UTH doctors initially said he would not die, but that at night somebody removed the life-support tubes so that he dies. KK mourned, saying, ‘my son was assassinated twice’. On 6 July 2001, former MMD MP and deputy minister Paul Tembo who had just defected to the opposition FDD was shot dead. Was it a mere coincidence that he was shot the day before he was due testify to a tribunal investigating MMD ministers Katele Kalumba, Golden Mandandi, and Peter Machungwa for allegedly diverting USD 700,000 to the MMD party?

The third reason for suspecting foul play is that Baldwin was persuaded to go for late night drinking by president Chiluba’s son, Castro, and a nephew to defence minister Ben Mwila, Mubanga Kafuti. This is strange. How could Baldwin who has just been a political rival of MMD, find himself ‘best friends’ with ‘children’ of the top-most ruling MMD leaders in the middle of the night upon joining their party? Were these ‘boys’ sent to closely watch/manage his movements, given that these ‘boys’ survived unhurt?

Fourth, the report of the president Chiluba-appointed commission of inquiry led by High Court judge David Lewanika raised eye brows when it concluded that Baldwin’s death seemed a mere accident caused by ‘low visibility’ which made the driver of his Mercedes Benz not see the sharp road bend ahead in the night. This is questionable, since Baldwin himself who drove the vehicle is dead. How can anyone know that he did not see properly since he is not there to say it himself? And how come this ‘low visibility’ did not cause accidents to other motorists?

Fifth, the above-mentioned Commission relied on the report of the pathologist who suggested that Baldwin’s body had no gun shots. The Commission’s ‘no gun shots’ theory eliminates the belief that Baldwin did initially survive the accident, but somebody came to shoot him at the accident scene. Like The Post newspaper wondered, was this pathologist well-equipped to distinguish gunshot wounds from vehicle-caused wounds?

Sixth, the forensic ballistic expert called Richard Thorny Shepherd whom the David Lewanika Commission engaged did not personally view Baldwin’s body. He came very late, given that president Chiluba appointed the Commision some 41 days after Baldwin’s death. His conclusion that Baldwin’s body had no guns shots was based on ‘hearsay’. He got this from the same pathologist who I have indicated may not have been well equipped to differentiate bodily wounds caused by the vehicle and those caused by gun shots. Even his conclusion that he examined the wrecked Benz and found no gunshot-caused damages is not convincing. Who says killers who shoot you in your car will always also shoot the car metal as well?

Seventh, reports suggest that the Nkumbula family brought in Scotland Yard to independently investigate, but the then government ignored the findings. May the Nkumbula Foundation release these findings to the public?

South African polls: ANC is weaker, opposition fragmented

With unemployment, power outages, and crime spiralling out of control, South Africa, one of Africa’s most affluent and influential nations, faces a pivotal election on May 29.

An estimated 28 million registered voters in South Africa are set to participate in the country’s seventh democratic general election.

What is at stake for the ANC?

The upcoming ballot could mark a new era in the country’s politics. The African National Congress (ANC), led by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, has been the dominant political force since overthrowing the apartheid regime. However, its electoral support has declined, with surveys suggesting a potential need for a coalition government as the ANC’s vote share may dip below 50 percent for the first time.

What are the issues?

The lack of employment has hit young people hard, with more than 44 percent of 15 to 34-year-olds not in education, training, or employment, leading to concerns about potential political instability in the future.

“We must be careful not to draw specific conclusions around sectoral trends in employment trend from just one quarterly survey,” said Raymond Parsons, an economic expert from the North-West University Business School.

“But the overall unemployment picture is sufficiently negative to explain why all the major political parties have put the need for SA to get much higher job-rich growth high on their election manifestos,” added Parsons.

Meanwhile, political parties, including the ANC have also pledged to tackle the persistent high levels of crime in the country, as reflected in their election manifestos.

Why is the opposition not consolidating?

Mcebisi Ndletyana, professor of political science at the University of Johannesburg, has identified a potential plateau in the support for the ANC’s primary competitors, namely the Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

“The opposition is fragmented because, despite the ANC losing support, the DA and the EFF are not experiencing significant growth,” explained Ndletyana. This is attributed to a multitude of new political entrants attracting pockets of support within the constituencies of established political parties.

“They are supposed to be consolidating, but there is further fragmentation among the opposition,” he said.

However, if the ANC’s support falls below 50 percent for the first time, the party will be compelled to form a coalition government.

Meanwhile. political analyst Prof Ntsikelelo Benjamin Breakfast, director of the Centre for Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution at Nelson Mandela University added: “It’s too late to come up with any anti-poverty strategy. The ANC blew all the opportunities it had to correct its mistakes in the last 30 years.

“It is in the belly of the beast. It is on the verge of losing power. I am not a prophet of doom, but the writing is on the wall,” added Mr Breakfast.

What are the alternatives and convenient partnerships for ANC?

The DA, the closest rival to the ANC, has been labelled “a white party” after ousting its black leaders in the lead-up to the highly anticipated 2024 elections.

A centre-right political movement in South Africa, DA originated from the former apartheid parliament and it has traditionally been seen as representing the interests of white, Asian, and coloured individuals, although it has sought to broaden its appeal. The party appointed its first black leader, Mmusi Maimane, who later resigned, expressing that the party was not the right “vehicle” for unifying a still divided South Africa ahead of the May elections.

DA leader John Steenhuisen has emphasised the importance of focusing on competencies and delivery, over race.

Mr Steenhuisen has formed a coalition with smaller parties to gain the votes needed for power. He’s open to joining forces with the ANC if they don’t secure a majority. Despite seeking cross-party cooperation, he’s not hesitant to criticise rival parties.

“Steenhuisen comes across as someone who is privileged, but unconscious, unaware of the context, unaware of the lived reality for most South Africans,” said South African political analyst Richard Calland.

Calland believes it is a challenge for the DA leader to broaden his support among black voters, as they are still significantly more likely to be living in poverty compared to the white population.

The DA has been in power in the Western Cape since the 2009 election, securing a larger majority in the 2014 election but experiencing a slight decrease in support in the 2019 election.

What of the EFF?

On the other hand, the EFF, which is the third largest party in parliament, has proposed radical economic solutions to tackle unemployment and inequality. The party claims that the ANC has not effectively addressed the economic disparities created by apartheid and aims to redistribute land to those in need.

The EFF led by Mr Julius Malema also advocates for the nationalisation of mines, banks, and other key sectors of the economy, arguing that this would allow the country’s wealth to benefit the majority of the population.

“I think that the brand of Malema, which is destabilisation, anti-establishment… militant politics, even violent politics at times – I just don’t think it lands with the broader public,” Calland added.

What are the political parties’ strongholds?

While the DA is in control in the Western Cape province, the ANC governs the remaining eight provinces in South Africa: Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, and North West.

The EFF established in 2013, has been steadily gaining popularity and support. Despite not representing a specific province, the party has experienced notable growth at the provincial level, increasing its number of seats in all nine provincial legislatures and securing official opposition party status in three provinces.

Britney Spears has claimed that she is the latest celebrity to be targeted by robbers at home

Britney Spears has claimed that she is the latest celebrity to be targeted by robbers at home.

The Gimme More singer, 42, shared a short video of an empty jewellery box on her social media account on Monday, telling fans, ‘Look, I’ll show you guys for real, all my jewellery was stolen.’

All drawers appeared to be empty, bar one, which included a religious necklace Spears explained to be ‘Mother Mary’.

She continued to tell fans: ‘I’m scared. It’s all gone, all my jewellery is gone.’

Spears captioned the post, ‘So you can see for real all my jewellery was stolen … it’s hard to buy new now because I’m scared it will go missing’.

‘So I buy it cheap and fake, but it’s hard because some of my pieces were originally made for me … and my baby cross that I wore since I was 4 is gone … it’s so thin’.

The Toxic singer sparked concern earlier this month when she was pictured barefoot and in tears outside the Chateau Marmont in the middle of the night.

The pop icon dismissed ‘fake news’ surrounding the incident but said she felt ‘completely harassed’ by paramedics after twisting her ankle.

After sharing a glimpse of her swollen ankle, the star revealed that ‘some s**t’ actually happened to her foot after she ‘fell’ while trying to ‘do a leap’ at the Chateau.

But TMZ reported a different version, saying that Spears was ‘out of control’ in the hotel and harassing other guests. Paramedics were called as hotel staff feared the singer was ‘having a mental breakdown.’

According to the outlet’s sources, Spears and her boyfriend, Paul Richard Soliz, 37, got into an altercation in their hotel room that ‘turned physical.’

A spokesman from the Los Angeles Fire Department, Brian Humphrey, did not address the alleged incident but confirmed: ‘Emergency services received a call at 12.42am with reports of an adult female injured.

‘At 1 am an ambulance arrived on the premises. I can confirm no-one was transported. Services left the scene at 1.17am. The police department were not called.’

Spears has had a turbulent couple of months after recently finalising her divorce from her third husband Hesam ‘Sam’ Asghari. The couple were married for 14 months after they began dating in 2017.

The Hit Me Baby One More Time singer also recently settled the legal case with her father, Jamie, over her controversial conservatorship.

A source told The Sun that Spears and her legal team decided to settle in order to ‘protect her from reliving the traumas of her conservatorship.’

The judge ruled that Spears will have to pay her father’s legal fees, estimated to be $2million (£1.5million) as well as her own. She will not receive any money from the case.

COURT HEARS KASASE AND SONS GANGED UP ON BUSINESSMAN ALEX ZULU

COURT HEARS KASASE AND SONS GANGED UP ON BUSINESSMAN ALEX ZULU

A NEPHEW of Ministry of Finance boss Mildred Kasase who’s on trial for the alleged murder of her husband disclosed that his Cousin Alex Madiba Zulu sent him a message revealing himself, his 18- year old brother and mother clobbered their father Alex Kanyama Zulu.

27-year old Willam Daka said Madiba confided in him of having pushed his father down the stairs when the fighting intensified.

Kasase an assistant director at the Ministry of Finance and National planning is jointly charged with her 20-year-old son Alex Madiba Zulu for murder.

It is alleged that Kasase connived with her son and battered her spouse Alex Kanyama Zulu on July 29, 2023.

At the last sitting Kasase’s 18 year-old son told the Court that the businessman fell on the stairs and broke his arm following an attempt to hit his mother with a trunk during a fight.

But in his testimony before High Court judge Irene Mbewe, Daka who was based in Russia at the time of Zulu’s death said, his cousin has actually disclosed the he and his brother helped their mother to give him a mother of all beatings before his death.

“On July 23, 2023, I received a phone call from my aunty Caroline Kanyama Zulu informing me that uncle Alex Kanyama Zulu had died. She didn’t go into details. I then passed on my condolences to my cousin, I noticed a missed call from Madiba and when I checked my whatsapp I noticed a message explaining what had happened,” Daka said.

“According to my cousin My uncle was beaten up by his wife Mildred and his son (18-year old ), and Madiba Zulu. My aunty Caroline called again explaining the cause of death. According to my aunty, my uncle fell and broke his arm.

He said he was doubtful of his aunt’s version of the story as Madiba had already spilt the tea about his parents fight and how he helped his mother clobber their father.

Daka said he forwarded the message to his aunt, Caroline who exposed Kasase and her sons in a family meeting after Zulu’s burial.

The witness was asked to read the message he received from Madiba in court and it read;

“Yesterday I was with mum by her office during the day, she told me that in the night she will be going out with some friend, she also told me that I should go pick her up using dads car that’s if dad was going to be around. But she came back on her own I woke up when dad came back, that was at midnight.

Mum came before dad but I dont know what time, they entered the house then I heard something drop in the kitchen then my mum shouted my name(Madiba), I ran fast to the kitchen then dad attacked me, I then manhandled him and put him on the ground.

As he was on the ground, mum my brother and my cousin all came and attacked him as I was holding him down then I let go of him then everyone ran outside except my young sister and imagine she just came back from school just yesterday.

He started grabbing things and throwing them to us so now he went back in the house, he couldn’t lock it because the door got damaged, he went to his room then mum started talking she said a lot if things man, she was trying to tell him that she is fed up of everything, he then came outside then I told him every time to get behind me on the veranda there’s two trunks man, a big one and a small one, he picked the small one and hit me with it,

He got the high one and threw it to my mom but it missed her, after he threw it I grabbed him and pushed him off the stairs that’s how he fell. Then my brother got the trunk and threw it on him while he was on the floor, his hand broke when he did that, after that I also got the trunk and threw it at him and said, you have seen how it feels, then my brother got his phone and broke it.

Mum picked it and broke it even more. That’s how he got up and took himself to the hospital.. then we stayed up as mum was breaking most of the things in the house. After she was done, she started cleaning. When he came back I opened the gate for him and he went straight to the room. Then he went to the hospital with my brother.. we were also preparing to go there.”

Daka said his response to his cousin was “oh no.”

“Then he (Madiba) said it’s all our fault, William please please dont share this,”said Daka.

Caroline Zulu narrated that she received a call from her older brother Evans Kanyama Zulu who informed her that their brother was admitted to a health facility after breaking his arm.

She said she tried to call his mobile phone but it was off and when she called Kasase the latter asked her to engage in an intercessory prayer for her brother and his family.

“She said Mulamu tampeni ukupepa(sister in-law start praying). So I said what should I pray about, she said things are not okay just start praying. I went inside the house and told my husband. He told me to put on shoes and we drove to the hospital,” Caroline said.

“When we reached six miles my brother called to tell me that we’ve lost Alex, I started crying, afterward I called my aunt Nelly and my nephew William Daka who was based in Russia at that time. We went to the hospital and found my sister in-law Mildred Kasase crying. we tried to console her.”

She said after her brother was entombed on August 2, 2023 and during a repast (isambo lyamfwa) around 15 hours her uncle Reauben Nyalubwi asked Kasase to explain what led to Zulu’s death but she claimed that he fell on the on the stairs and broke his hand during their cat and mouse game.

“She said, my fellow women, in every house there are differences then she told us to say on Friday she had requested from Alex that she was going for a drink up with her friends and the she came back earlier and Alex came back later,” Caroline explained.

“When my cousin Violet Lungu asked my sister in law if she had asked for permission…before she could answer one of her relatives a man said you are asking alot of questions are we in court. That was the close of the first meeting.”

She said during the second family meeting she wondered why her brothers phone and laptop were not among his belongings that were supposed to be distributed but his sons claimed that they were stolen.

“I asked Madiba if he sent a text to William, he didnt respond, his eyes lit that’s how I gave the phone to one of their relatives whom I dont know, he read the message to everyone who was there. Everyone was quiet and we proceeded with the cleansing,”Caroline said.

She said following the revelations the room was filled with mortuary silence and the matter was later reported to Woodlands Police Station.

“We requested if a postmortem could be done, to see if what we received on the phone and want happened was the same,” said Caroline.

During cross examination Caroline said she was not aware that Kasase was physically abused by her husband on several occasions.

She said she does not know that her brother had a heart arrest during surgery, which resulted into his death.

Why is an 81-year-old so preoccupied with extending presidential term limit?

Hardly a day passes in Zimbabwe without news on President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s machinations to extend his tenure one way or another.

Ever since securing his second and final term, in the hotly disputed and internationally condemned August 2023 elections, talk of Mnangagwa not planning to leave office in 2028 has been topical.

However, one of the biggest obstacles standing in his way is the country’s supreme law itself, which limits him to only two five-year terms [section 91(2) and 95 (2)(b)] – the second having started in August 2023.

Even in the event of an amendment to the Constitution, in order to extend or remove term limits, according to section 328 (7), the incumbent, or someone who held that particular office in the past, can not benefit.

In other words, Mnangagwa can not expect to go beyond 2028 as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Nevertheless, there is also talk of him planning to amend the Constitution so as to lengthen the presidential term to seven years – thereby, enabling him to remain in office till 2030 without technically changing the provision on term limits.

In all this plotting and scheming, there are two or three things I am failing to wrap my head around.

Firstly, Mnangagwa appears determined to rule – we all know he does not lead – Zimbabwe till, at least, 2030.

What is it about this particular year that he regards so special?

We are even hearing these calls within the ruling ZANU PF party itself, particularly through Midlands Province Minister of State Owen Ncube, with his “Mnangagwa will still be in power in 2030” slogan.

Why does Mnangagwa believe he has to be in power, specifically in 2030?

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with his so-called ‘Vision 2030’, as I am convinced, deep down, he knows (as every other Zimbabwean) that his mantra is pure political gibberish and nonsense.

With only six years to this envisioned ‘upper middle-income economy’ – where every Zimbabwean will be living in relative prosperity – we are nowhere near even one percent of achieving that goal.

This is a country in which an estimated 49 percent of the population lives in extreme poverty — earning, according to the 2023 UN classification, less than US$2,57 a day, which is the international poverty line.

I actually believe that those falling in this category in Zimbabwe are far more than the 49 percent official figure since this was for 2020 when the economy was faring relatively better than it is today.

Furthermore, everything else – such as water and electricity supply, major infrastructure, and our health delivery system – lay in total shambles.

Are we supposed to believe that a miracle will take place within the next six years, whereby we will find the majority of the population living prosperous lives in a well-developed functional country?

I seriously doubt that – what with all the grand looting of our national resources by those in power.

So, why really does Mnangagwa want to reach 2030 still in office?

Only he knows the answer!

The second thing that boggles my mind as why an individual who is already 81 years only would be expending so much energy, time, and resources on seeking to rule beyond 2028?

He will be 86 by the time his current term expires, and if his dream of another five-year term is fulfilled, that will see him reach 2033 at 91 years old.

Is it only me, or do others also find this extremely strange?

For the information of those who may not know this, Mnangagwa is already the ninth oldest national leader in the world – according to the Pew Research Centre analysis of sitting leaders in 187 UN member states.

He shares this unenviable title with US President Joe Biden, who is also 81 years old.

It will be interesting to note that, in the US, only 21 percent of registered voters are confident of Biden’s mental fitness and 15 percent his physical fitness to be president.

This speaks volumes about how the electorate views such leaders of Mnangagwa’s age.

In fact, Mnangagwa and his US counterpart fall in a bracket of only 5 percent of global leaders who are in their 80s.

34 percent of world leaders are in their 60s, 22 percent in their 50s, 19 percent in the 70s, and 16 percent in the 40s.

The youngest leaders in the world are Burkina Faso’s Ibrahim Traoré, Ecuadorian Daniel Noboa, and Montenegrin Milojko Spajiĉ – who are interestingly all 36 years old.

The oldest is Paul Biya of Cameroon, who is 91 – the only one in the nonagenarian group.

As a matter of fact, should Mnangagwa succeed in not only securing his desired third term and actually reaching that age, he will be the oldest leader in the world!

I seriously doubt Biya will still be around at that time.

Therefore, I ask: Why would someone already 81 years old be so obsessed about getting a third term, to the extent of planning to possibly violate the country’s Constitution?

What even makes him so sure that he will still be alive to reach that ripe old age?

Should Mnangagwa not be more preoccupied with uplifting the lives of millions of Zimbabweans who are currently languishing in abject poverty?

Why not spend sleepless nights planning and formulating strategies that will take the country out of the economic mess it has been in for the past two and a half decades?

Surely, would it not have made more sense than spending all that time plotting and scheming on how to rule until the age of 91 years old?

In all this, he will still be hoping to be alive by that time!

It is better to be in power for only one term – as we witnessed with South Africa’s first black president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela – and living a lasting indelible legacy.

Than ruling for 15 years and still be reviled by one’s own citizens and recorded in history as the man who destroyed our dreams and ruined our lives.

Ice Cube Indicates Celeb Endorsements Will Not Influence Elections Following Some Stars Picking Sides

t is common for musicians and actors to publicly support political candidates running for office through a process known as political celebrity endorsement.

The public, media, and policymakers always pay attention if a celebrity endorses a political candidate or a cause.

However, Ice Cube believes celebrity endorsements won’t affect or swing votes in the US presidential election this year.

Ice Cube discussed a variety of topics during his Monday appearance on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria, including politics and his Big 3 basketball league.

The West Coast icon was asked if he had noticed a change in the black community as a result of rappers and other celebrities endorsing Trump during the interview.

The multi-hyphenate artiste responded by saying he believed voting was a “personal decision” for each individual.

Despite this fact, some of our favorite celebrities are already taking sides.

As rappers and other celebrities have backed Trump over time, the interviewer asked the West Coast star if he had noticed a change in the black community.

“You know, people are going to make a decision on who they want to be president,” he began. “You know, I think it’s a personal decision. I don’t know if they care if any rappers or entertainers get up there and say anything. It’s really a personal decision.”

Speaking to the mixed reviews that both Trump and Biden have received during their respective terms, he added, “People know who Trump is. People know who Biden is. They’ll make their decision no matter who gets up there and pushes whatever decision they make. The country knows both of these guys very well. I just think it’s going to come down to a personal decision.”

Interestingly, Ice Cube was accused of being a Trump supporter in 2020 after meeting with the former POTUS to discuss the Contract With Black America program to ensure the benefit of the black community.

At the time, Cube clarified that he hadn’t backed anyone.

After receiving backlash online, the 54-year-old participated in a Clubhouse conversation with Big Tigger, where he further explained his reasoning for meeting with the Republican Party.

“To me, they are the same people; one of them is just more polished than the other,” he said of both Biden and Trump. “They are both white men from the 50s.”

He then explained how the $500 billion that has been promised to the black community by Republicans outweighs the $150 billion offered by Democrats.

While Biden enjoyed massive celebrity endorsements from some black celebrities, Trump, on the other hand, continues to wiggle his way into hip-hop for support.

Kanye West backed Trump to mixed reactions, ultimately becoming one of his biggest allies.

Trump also tried to appeal to rappers and the black community when he pardoned Lil Wayne and commuted Kodak Black’s prison sentence.

Others who have publicly shown support for the 77-year-old so far are Sexyy Red, Amber Rose, Chief Keef, Waka Flocka Flame, and Azealia Banks.

This year’s US presidential election will take place on November 5, with Trump running for the Republican Party and Biden continuing his work as the declared Democrat candidate.

Zimbabwe’s new gold-backed currency faces public skepticism amid crackdown

The introduction of the world’s newest currency in April inspired a reggae artist to record a song praising the ZiG, or Zimbabwe Gold.

The catchy tune, titled “Zig Mari,” received generous play on state television and radio. The musician, Ras Caleb, received a car and $2,000 — ironically paid in greenbacks, not the new ZiGs — from a businessman with close ties to Zimbabwe’s ruling party and President Emmerson Mnangagwa; he said he wanted to reward an act he considered “patriotic.”

Although money typically doesn’t require publicity, Zimbabwe’s sixth national currency in 15 years needs all the help it can get.

Desperate to halt a money crisis underlining the country’s economic troubles, the government launched the gold-backed ZiG, the latest attempt to replace the Zimbabwe dollar, which had been battered by depreciation and often outright rejection by people unwilling to put their faith in it.

Senior officials from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and the ruling ZANU-PF party embarked on a flurry of public rallies and meetings to encourage the skeptical population to now embrace the ZiG ahead of the U.S. dollar — also legal tender in the southern African nation. Commercial jingles heralding the currency flooded the airwaves along with Caleb’s single.

Yet despite the charm offensive, the ZiG is facing a familiar problem: public mistrust and structural barriers that have people still clamoring for U.S. dollars. Although the ZiG has largely held its value on the official market, it has tumbled on the black market, where $1 can be exchanged for up to 17 ZiGs.

Authorities are also using force to prop up the new banknotes. They have packed jail cells with dozens of street currency dealers, and frozen the accounts of businesses accused of undermining the ZiG.

Law enforcement agents have arrested more than 200 street currency dealers on allegations of flouting foreign currency exchange regulations, national police spokesman Paul Nyathi said. The government accuses them of undermining and devaluing the new currency by using exchange rates higher than the official one.

Twin brothers Tapiwa and Justice Nyamadzawo, 24, were arrested two weeks after the launch of the new currency after allegedly selling undercover detectives cellphone airtime worth $10 at a rate of 15 ZiGs per dollar, according to court papers. The official exchange rate was just over 13 ZiGs per dollar. Like other currency traders, the twins were denied bail and remain in pretrial detention on charges that carry a maximum prison term of 10 years.

The crackdown is incongruous, because Zimbabwe has a long history of street currency dealers whose unofficial rates often carry the day. Many shops and merchants also ignore the official rate and only accept the local currency at their own rates. And many vendors, particularly in the unlicensed sector that employs more than 80% of adult Zimbabweans, still only accept the dollar.

What’s more, the government has allowed some businesses, such as gas stations, to refuse to accept the ZiG in favor of U.S. dollars. Some departments, like the office that issues and renews passports, also accept only greenbacks. Many others still list their fees in U.S. dollars, although they accept the equivalent in local currency.

The government has announced fines up to 200,000 ZiG or about $15,000, for businesses that fail to stick to the official exchange rate. Authorities have also frozen bank accounts of some businesses on accusations of rejecting the new currency or trading using exchange rates higher than the official rate. The Reserve Bank didn’t name the affected businesses.

Zimbabwe has a long and tumultuous history of monetary instability. The ZiG is the sixth currency used following the spectacular 2009 collapse of the Zimbabwe dollar amid hyperinflation of 5 billion percent, one of the world’s worst currency crashes.

The government printed a 100-trillion Zimbabwe dollar banknote to keep up with spiraling prices that saw a loaf of bread going for more than 500 million Zimbabwe dollars.

John Mushayavanhu, the governor of Zimbabwe’s central bank, has hyped the ZiG as a first step toward eventual de-dollarization. The U.S dollar accounts for more than 80% of transactions in the country, according to Mushayavanhu, who wants the ratio to be 50% by 2026.

But for now, the allure of the almighty dollar remains. Across Zimbabwe, it is widely used for paying rent, school fees and to buy groceries. Many citizens, including government workers, take their local currency earnings to the black market to trade for dollars.

The government has said it is working on mechanisms that include opening bureau de changes for individuals to access dollars “for small transactions.” Economists and business groups have warned, meanwhile, that the use of force is unlikely to lead to more confidence in the ZiG or halt the black market traders.

“They will work to ensure that the police do not catch them,” Sekai Kuvarika, the chief executive of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, told a hearing of parliament’s finance and industry committees.

Street currency dealers holding wads of money and openly soliciting for clients were a feature of Zimbabwe’s urban architecture for years. They have deserted their familiar spots since the crackdown began in April and appear to have taken their business underground.

Many now use social media and instant messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook to connect with customers.

Maxwell Chisanga, 28, a resident of the capital, Harare, said a shop where he works pays him in ZiGs, but he needs U.S. dollars for everyday transactions.

“My landlord needs her rent in dollars so I have no choice but to look for it on the black market,” Chisanga said.

Economist Prosper Chitambara said lack of faith in the local currency and demand for U.S. dollars will continue driving the black market despite the crackdown.

“The solution is to build public confidence in the local currency. Otherwise, arrests will not work as long as people are hungry for U.S. dollars, which they cannot get from official channels,” Chitambara said.

Kenyan President William Ruto claims private jet to US was cheaper option

Kenya’s President William Ruto has come in for widespread criticism after saying the private jet he used to fly to the US last week was cheaper than using the national airline.

He did not, however, say how much the jet had cost, or how much it would have cost on Kenya Airways.

“The facts that are out in the public do not seem to bear him out,” political analyst Prof Herman Manyora told the BBC.

Senior opposition figure Eugene Wamalwa told local media that the president’s remarks were “unpatriotic”.

He said the president should instead have used the opportunity to market Kenya Airways.

Mr Ruto went to the US on a three-day official state visit – the first such trip by an African leader in more than 15 years.

While he was there, Kenya secured a number of investment deals worth billions of dollars.

The country was also designated by the US as a major non-North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) ally, cementing its position as one of the US’s closest security partners in Africa.

But the use of a luxury jet for the US trip has continued to spark criticism, prompting the president to respond.

On Sunday, a day after returning to the country, Mr Ruto defended himself as a “steward of public resources”.

“In keeping with my determination for us to live within our means and that I should lead from the front in so doing, the cost was less than travelling on [Kenya Airways],” he said on X (formerly Twitter).

Kenya Airways has not commented regarding the cost.

But it has dismissed as fake a widely circulated statement that purports to show that using the airline would have been cheaper for the president.

Despite his explanation, many Kenyans have criticised the president.

Mr Manyora says the president should have explained himself better, to persuade people that it was right to use a private jet.

He said the president should have “considered people’s perceptions” and explained the benefits of using a chartered plane, including flexibility, class and security.

“I would have expected that kind of explanation, not one that leaves people wondering,” he said.

On social media some criticised the president for using an airline owned by another country.

“It is a shame as a country if the president can’t use our national airlines, Kenya Airways, because it is expensive,” said Alinur Mohamed., external

Calculating the total cost of business class tickets for the president and his delegation, local media report this would have been far cheaper than hiring a jet.

The president used a Dubai-owned RoyalJet company to travel to the US, along with an entourage of about 30 people.

Hiring such a jet is reported to cost $1.5m (£1.2m) versus the $300,000 estimated cost for business-class tickets on Kenya Airways for the entire delegation.

But Mr Ruto told US broadcaster Voice Of America (VOA) over the weekend that the estimated cost of his trip was “completely exaggerated”.

He did not respond to a direct question about how much it cost, but said the amounts being “bandied around are ridiculous”.

“I’m careful about the resources that I spend,” he added.

Last week, government spokesman Isaac Mwaura told the BBC that the “benefits from this visit far outweigh” the costs, without confirming the sums involved.

The row comes amid concerns by critics that taxpayers’ money has been used to fund extravagance in government while taxes have been raised on the basis that the state needs extra funding.

Mr Ruto has made more than 50 visits abroad since he became president in 2022 – averaging more than three a month.

The government has defended the trips as necessary – while pointing to recent directives to cut spending.

EU-Israel relations collapse as Spain and Ireland prepare to formally recognize state of Palestine

The European Union and Israel had a big disagreement before EU countries Ireland and Spain decided to recognize a Palestinian state. Spain said they might impose punishments on Israel for attacking Rafah in Gaza.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, said to Spain that they cannot support Palestinians from their consulate in Jerusalem.

At the same time, the EU’s leader in foreign affairs, Josep Borrell, from Spain, strongly supports the International Criminal Court. The court’s prosecutor wants to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other leaders, like those of Hamas.

“The court prosecutor has been threatened and accused of being against Jewish people,” Borrell said. “The word antisemitic is very bad. ” “It’s really important. ”

On Monday, Katz accused Spain of approving a Palestinian state as a way of supporting terrorism. He also mentioned the Inquisition, a cruel group from the 15th century that made Jews and Muslims leave Spain, convert to Christianity, or be killed. Katz said that time is over now.

Katz said that no one can make us change our religion or threaten us. If anyone hurts us, we will also hurt them back.

The EU and its member nations were against the attack by Hamas on Oct 7, but they also criticized Israel for their attack that killed many Palestinians.

In the most recent attacks, Rafah was the main target. Palestinian health workers said that at least 35 people were killed by Israeli airstrikes on Sunday. The attacks also hit tents where displaced people were staying and left many others trapped in burning debris.

The highest court of the UN, the International Court of Justice, said on Friday that Israel needs to stop its attack on Rafah right away. However, it did not say that Israel has to stop fighting in all of Gaza.

Spain’s Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, said that Israel needs to stop its attack in Rafah.

Spain, Ireland, and Norway, which is not part of the EU, are planning to officially recognize Palestine as a state on Tuesday. Last week, they announced together, and this made Israeli authorities very angry. They called the ambassadors of the two countries to their Foreign Ministry in Tel Aviv. There, they showed them videos of the Hamas attack and kidnapping that happened on October 7.

Albares said that the way the ambassadors were treated was not good. “We don’t accept anything that is not polite and doesn’t follow the rules of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” he said.

“But we’ve also decided not to be provoked into straying from our goal,” he added. “We want to officially recognize Palestine as a state tomorrow, work hard to make a lasting peace agreement as soon as we can, and ultimately, to achieve long-lasting peace. “

My team already in the Champions League mode -Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti declared that Real Madrid are fully focused on the Champions League as they prepare for their final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday.

Madrid ended their LaLiga season with a 0-0 draw against Real Betis, having secured the league title weeks in advance.

They now have a week to get ready for the Champions League final.

The Spanish powerhouse boasts a record 14 European Cup victories, including five in the past ten years.

“The cold sweat arrives on Saturday afternoon,” Ancelotti said at Madrid’s pre-final media day at their Valdebebas training ground.

“The fear, that’s normal. I have experience. My team gives me confidence and hope. They look focused on the game. They’re in Champions League mode.”

Ancelotti’s teams have reached nine European Cup finals — three as a player, and six as a manager — and he is now hoping to land his second Champions League since returning to Madrid in 2021 for his second spell as coach.

“It’s always the same ahead of these games,” he said. “Excitement, happiness, being involved in the most important game of the season… We’re not on holiday yet, and the other teams are. They’ll see the game on TV.”

Ancelotti refused to confirm that back-from-injury Thibaut Courtois would start the final in goal, ahead of Andriy Lunin, as ESPN has reported.

“It’s very difficult,” Ancelotti said. “Of course it’s really difficult, because both of them deserve to play this final. Lunin has had a fantastic season, Courtois is back from his injury.”

“One of the two is going to play,” he added, laughing, “and the other will be on the bench.”

The Italian coach said midfielder Toni Kroos — who announced his retirement last week — doesn’t need another trophy to be remembered as a club legend.

“Let’s hope he can end his career with the Champions League, he deserves it,” Ancelotti said. “He’s gone down in Real Madrid history, he’s already there, but ending with a Champions League would be fantastic.”

It’s a difficult club; Xavi warns next Barça coach

Following his final game as Barcelona coach, a 2-1 victory over Sevilla on Sunday, Xavi Hernández expressed that he feels his contributions have been underappreciated and warned that his successor will face significant challenges.

Barcelona secured the win with goals from Robert Lewandowski and Fermín López, while Youssef En-Nesyri scored for Sevilla.

This match concluded Barça’s LaLiga season with a three-point finish, coming just two days after the club announced Xavi’s dismissal at the season’s end.

“I don’t think the work we have done has been sufficiently valued considering the adverse situation we came into,” Xavi told DAZN after beating Sevilla.

“Barça were ninth in the table when we arrived at the end of 2021. We finished second. Then, in the first full season [in charge], we won two trophies [LaLiga and the Spanish Supercopa].

“This year has not been at the level required, but it’s come down to details in several key games. It’s a shame. I am sad, but this is the job of a coach.”

ESPN has revealed that Hansi Flick will replace Xavi, with the Germán coach’s appointment expected to be announced in the coming days.

“They have to know it is a difficult situation, because Barcelona is a difficult club, but also because of the adverse financial situation, above all [LaLiga’s] financial fair play rules,” Xavi said when asked if he had any advice for his successor.

“It won’t be easy at all. They will suffer and they will need patience because it’s a really difficult job. The only thing that can save them is winning, whether they have been part of the club or not [previously].

“I have been looked at through a magnifying glass and a certain level of expectations were generated, because I was part of Barça’s best-ever era, which has played against me.”

Xavi initially announced in January that he would step down this summer, but he changed his mind in April. However, he was dismissed in a meeting with club president Joan Laporta on Friday.

Despite his earlier doubts, Xavi maintained that he wanted to stay in the role and declined to disclose the reasons for his dismissal.
“It’s not for me to explain the motives, the president has to do that,” Xavi continued. “I just have to accept and respect them. The decision is made and there is no looking back. The club is above any person. I wanted to stay on.

I get [the decision], I respect it, but it is a shame. The feelings are contradictory because the work has been positive despite not winning trophies this season. I thought we were on a good path and I still think that.

“But this is football, decisions have to be made. I am happy, proud and satisfied with what we have done: 2.5 years and two trophies in the adverse, difficult situation the club is in, that’s the reality.

“I have not been able to work with calm. We asked for stability one month ago when we decided to stay. We thought by staying on we had achieved that and we were hungry to work hard, but this is the life of a manager.”

Xavi said he is “open” to anything in the future regarding the next step in his career, but that in the short-term he needs to “rest and be with my family.”

The former midfielder, who played over 700 matches for Barcelona, took over from Ronald Koeman in 2021, guiding the team from ninth place to second in his first season. He secured Barcelona’s first LaLiga title since 2019 last season.

However, this year the team did not maintain that momentum, finishing second in the league and ending the season without any trophies after being eliminated in the quarterfinals of both the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

Japan informs North Korea about planned military spy satellite launch

North Korea told Japan that they want to send a satellite into space next week. They want to launch a second spy satellite for military purposes.

Leaders from South Korea, Japan, and China met in Seoul for their first joint meeting on Monday, and they received a notification about a launch.

Japan’s coast guard was told by North Korea that they plan to launch a “satellite rocket” in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and China, and east of the Philippine island of Luzon starting on Monday and lasting until midnight on June 3.

North Korea shares its rocket launch details with Japan because Japan’s coast guard helps keep ships safe in the region.

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, told officials to work together with the United States, South Korea, and other countries to ask North Korea not to launch anything and to be ready in case something goes wrong.

The launch plan probably means that North Korea is trying to send a second spy satellite into space for military purposes. The military in South Korea found signs that North Korea might be getting ready to launch a spy satellite at its Tongchangri launch facility.

In November, North Korea sent its first military satellite into space to spy on the US and other military threats. North Korea wants spy satellites to watch the US and South Korea closely and make its missiles more accurate.

Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, said at a meeting at the end of the year that the country will send three more military spy satellites into space in 2024.

The UN tells North Korea it can’t launch any satellites because they think it’s really a way for them to test their missile technology. North Korea says it can launch satellites and test missiles.

The satellite launch in November made tensions between North and South Korea worse. Both countries are now breaking the agreement they made in 2018 to reduce military tensions.

In the last few years, North Korea has been doing a lot of missile tests to make its weapons stronger. This has made the US, South Korea and Japan work together to make their security stronger too. According to experts, North Korea probably thinks that having more weapons would give them more power when negotiating with the US in the future.

North Korea was not on the list of topics for Monday’s meeting between Kishida, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

On Sunday, Yoon talked to Li about North Korea’s nuclear program and military ties with Russia. Yoon also asked China to help promote peace on the Korean Peninsula because it is a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

South Korea, Japan, and the US have been asking China, who is North Korea’s main friend and provides them with money, to help convince North Korea to stop trying to build nuclear weapons. China is believed to not be following all the rules set by the UN to stop North Korea. They are also thought to be sending secret aid to help North Korea.

On Sunday, the North Korean Vice Defence Minister, Kim Kang Il, said they might take aggressive action in response to South Korean navy and coast guard ships crossing the disputed sea boundary. There have been many fights in that area in recent years.

He promised to get back at South Korean activists who were sending negative messages about North Korea across the border.

Fashion Sakala jnr allegations against me are total lies – Chipolopolo Coach Avram Grant reacts

COACH AVRAM GRANT BREAKS THE SILENCE ON THE FASHION SAKALA SAGA.

In a press Conference on May 27th at the Football house, Grant said this October will mark 51 years since he started his coaching career. He began by coaching an academy in his home town, spending 15 years in his country winning championships. Grant has also worked in Ghana, Switzerland, Ireland, and England, among many others, with various clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United, as he listed in his preamble, reminding everyone of his great accolades before getting to the main agenda.

Coach Grant said that part of his job is to select players, including the starting XI, and some of the players were not happy. He said that his decision to select the players for the 27-man provisional squad was completely professional. “In all my 51 years of coaching, I have never seen a player react like that after not being chosen. I have never faced so many lies from a player because I did not pick him, and suddenly I am not a good coach.” Grant explained. He further went on to say the problem started at the AFCON against Morocco. Prior to the match, Grant stated that Sakala’s performance against Tanzania was not good, but he was not the only one, as many of the big players also come short in games at times. He decided to change the formation after the red card, playing him as a second striker, but it was of no avail. He went on to play Lameck Banda in Sakala’s position as he felt Lameck was more capable of going toe to toe with Morocco’s best defender, Hakimi, and according to Grant, this did not sit well with Sakala. Grant then stated that he was not happy with Sakala’s ethic and attitude that he showed after the changes the coach made. After the AFCON exit and before the Four Nations tournament, Grant said he sent private messages to the players he felt did not perform as well as he had done all his life.

“I said to the five players I am not happy with their performance. I also told him I am not happy with his behavior before and during the game against Morocco. I didn’t say he was not a good player.” I sent the message directly to him, like I did to the other five players, and all the other players that I thought didn’t perform well called me to say, Where can I improve? What can I do better? I thought he would also ask the same, but his answer was, Who are you to speak with me like this? You are not the boss of football in Zambia, and he even thought of putting a threat on me if I texted him again. ” Grant elaborated. He stated that he still continued to text Sakala, but no responses were made.

According to Grant, he decided that in the two up-coming games he needed to keep the harmony of the team; he would not pick players who felt they were not equal to the team and were unprofessional. Grant says he was accused, and all of Sakala’s statements were complete lies.

How do you look at Coach Grant’s response to the Fashion Sakala saga? Can we trust that Grant came out in the open to finally reveal the real truth? For more sports news and updates, follow Zed Sport.

Statement below

*Follow-Up Report on the Case of Abandoned Motor Vehicle and Missing Person – Twin Palm Police Station*
May 27, 2024-This press statement serves as a follow-up on the report concerning the abandoned motor vehicle and the missing person, Honourable Jay Banda, made on May 25, 2024 at 03:30 hours.

On May 25, 2024, a concerned member of the public, of Meanwood Ibex, reported an abandoned motor vehicle via a phone call, a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number BAX 3974ZM without the front number plate.

The vehicle was discovered parked by the roadside 2.6 Km West of Twin Palm police station with the engine running, doors not locked, lights on and the right side of the windscreen shattered.

Inside the vehicle, officers only found two phones and a written note stating, “DEAR ZAMBIANS AM VERY SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME AND STAY BLESSED HON JAY BANDA MP.”

Honourable Jay Banda was reported missing, prompting an extensive investigation by the police.

Yesterday, May 26, 2024, at approximately 23:10 hours, a CID officer on call at Kafue Police Station received a report from a member of the public about someone claiming to be Honourable Jay Banda at Kasanga Family Farm, located off the gravel road leading to Kafue Boys Secondary School. Police officers quickly responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers were joined by family members who arrived in three different vehicles, guided by a resident of the farm. The family members identified the individual as the missing Honourable Jay Banda. He was found lying on the kitchen doorstep of the farm house, claiming to have been dumped by unknown persons a few meters from the farm. Honourable Banda complained of general body pains, and bruises were observed on his back.

The police, along with family members, promptly transported Honourable Jay Banda to Kafue General Hospital for initial medical care. At the hospital, a disagreement arose between the relatives of Honourable Banda and the police. The relatives insisted on transferring him to Medlands Hospital, while the police preferred that he be taken to Maina Soko Medical Centre to ensure comprehensive medical evaluation under secure conditions.

The Zambia Police Service wishes to express concerns regarding the actions of the relatives of Honourable Jay Banda following his discovery.

After Honourable Jay Banda was found at Kasanga Family Farm and identified by family members, he complained of general body pains and had visible bruises. The police arranged for an ambulance to transport him to Maina Soko Medical Centre for proper medical treatment under a secure environment and for further investigations.

However, the relatives forcibly took him to Medlands Hospital, disregarding the police’s duty and plans for his safety. Despite the presence of an ambulance, the relatives remained uncooperative. Police officers trailed the vehicle to Medlands Hospital and again attempted to engage in dialogue with the relatives, who remained adamant.

Ultimately, the police used all legal means to ensure Honourable Banda’s transfer to Maina Soko Medical Centre, where he is now receiving treatment in a secure environment.

The Zambia Police Service has intensified investigations into this matter. We urge the public to remain calm and refrain from speculating or spreading unverified information. We are committed to uncovering the truth behind this incident and ensuring that all those responsible are held accountable.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. We appreciate the cooperation and support of the public in this ongoing investigation.

LUNGU’S PLAN TO CAUSE ANARCHY MUST BE THWARTED BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE – ROMEO KANGOMBE

Former President Edgar Lungu has advanced his plans to cause chaos and anarchy in the country and we are calling on all the security wings to be alert and thwart these evil plans.

Our intelligence wings need to up their game in protecting this country from both internal and external threats to national security. Edgar Lungu is a threat to peace and national security and must be treated as such. President Hakainde Hichilema should immediately get rid of people in the system who are cutting deals with criminals.

Edgar Lungu wants to use tribalism to divide this country. Yesterday, he paraded clowns to openly declare war on other tribes. This was not only careless but foolishness of the highest order.

Maureen Mabonga and Munir Zulu Members of Parliament for Mfuwe and Lumezi respectively, must be arrested immediately. We should not allow foolish talk to put this country on fire. We must preserve the spirit of One Zambia One nation.

Using the wealth he acquired through proceeds of crime, Edgar is determined to put this country on fire. Our security wings should also take keen interest to know who is buying pangas for junkies in our townships.

Zambia is bigger than Edgar Lungu and his minions. Edgar’s politics has no interest of the people or country, he is always personal. During his reign, citizens lived in fear. Innocent people were gassed, others were killed, we can’t allow him to bring back that terror. We believe our security wings are capable of putting a stop to this nonsense.

Despite the police giving regular updates on the missing Petauke Member of Parliament, Lungu decided to storm ibex Police as if Jay Jay was under police custody when he went missing. This lawlessness by the former head of state must be stopped immediately. Lungu must allow the police to do their job professionally without any interference.

Zambians must denounce the anarchists and preserve the peace that we are currently enjoying. Any threat to national security must thwarted immediately.

Romeo Kangombe
Sesheke Member of Parliament

…he was dumped by his abductors in Kafue, he is critical…

shortly before midnight , Hon. Jayjay Banda in a lot of pain, called his mother.

The mother to Jayjay then spoke to the owner of the phone who gave the location which disclosed that JayJay Banda had crawled up their house shortly before midnight and called for help.
The family had to call scream for neighbours who came and began to help. He could only remember his mother’s number.

The location were houses on the road to Kafue Boys off Kafue Main Road near Chita Lodge in Kafue District.

Members of the family rushed to Kafue. They found that the Zambia Police from Kafue had moved him from that house to Kafue District Hospital.

The family rejected the proposal.

At this stage JJ was moved in a convoy of family, some PF leaders and the Police had joined in. One car was involved in an accident along the way.

At this stage, Hon. Munir Zulu and Hon. Binwell Mpundu had joined the family.

OPEN LETTER TO ALL UPND LEADERS AND THOSE WHO RECEIVED VARIOUS PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTMENTS

0

OPEN LETTER TO ALL UPND LEADERS AND THOSE WHO RECEIVED VARIOUS PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTMENTS

Dear UPND Government Officials, Ministers, Directors, PS, MPs, and DCs,Council Chairmen, Mayors,

I want to remind you all that you hold your positions because of HH, whom you have now left vulnerable to attacks from criminals. Some of you have become liabilities.

Many of you are preoccupied with the benefits of your positions and have abandoned HH, leaving him to be targeted and accused like a criminal. He entrusted you with these roles to assist him in serving the people of Zambia and to be vigilant.

You have allowed him to be accused of various wrongdoings, leaving him to face baseless attacks from any Jim and Jack. Zambia can not be developed by one man; it requires the collective effort of various institutions.

Misguided individuals are making reckless statements that threaten national security, and you remain silent. Perhaps it is because some of you are accustomed to moving from one government to another. But think about the lives of ordinary citizens that some of these minions are putting at risk. Some people who destroyed our nation are conveying meetings to divide the country, and you are comfortable in those offices.

It is time for you to step up and support the president amidst these unwarranted attacks that aim to tarnish his name despite all his efforts to unite and develop Zambia. Without him being where he is, you can not be in those positions. Think about it.

It doesn’t need rocket science to deduce what’s going on. Remember Edgar Lungu’s post on “Why me” and Mwansa, who are facing tribal related charges in southern probince. If you get Edgar Lungu’s statement and listen to what that lady MP and Munir Zulu are saying. It is easy to tell why JJ Banda is missing and his case is being used for politics.

It is the battle against corruption. The idea is to bring the Easterners in the fight against the government so as to derail the corruption fight. Since the officials from the East were not much involved in the plander of national resources. The only way to bring the East in is through the purported abduction.

The chorus in the opposition UKA party from Edgar Lungu’s hymn book is too loud. UPND, please join the singing. Protect your president at all cost. JJ Banda’s disappearance is being used to turn East and North against South, but one thing we must remember as Zambians is that these criminals were not stealing for a particular tribe. They stole for themselves and their immediate families and we need to unite and fight this syndicate as one Zambia one people.Edgar Lungu and group have exposed themselves. From the machinations, it is easy, going by public statements issued so far. This whole episode is designed to benefit Edgar Lungu politically, like I once said Lungu’s survival is on violence even in government and this is the game here. That’s the motivation for this crime. I only hope they don’t kill him like they did when in power. We want JJ Banda back in good health.

Sincerely,

SIKAILE C SIKAILE

GOVT CAN LOCATE ABDUCTED JAY JAY IF ONLY THERE IS POLITICAL WILL ON THE PART OF PRESIDENT HH- Peter Sinkamba

GOVT CAN LOCATE ABDUCTED JAY JAY IF ONLY THERE IS POLITICAL WILL ON THE PART OF PRESIDENT HH

By Peter Sinkamba

In the last 30 years, the Zambian government has invested heavily in public security systems. Among key investments are ZICTA and the US$210 million Safe City National Command Centre in Lusaka, aimed at having a unified communication system to enhance security and peace in the country through installation of street cameras in key places across the country.

No doubt about it, we have systems in place to prevent crime by providing reliable and comprehensive security measures.
The law enforcement agencies have enhanced technological systems in place to detect the crime long before it takes place and thereby put in place crime preventive measures.

For example, the National Command Centre, Safe City Project has incorporated in the project systems such as the E- Policing, Installation of a 4G Wireless Broadband Trucking Network, a Transmission Coalition Emergency response system network, video surveillance system cameras and the installation of the intelligence traffic systems among others.

The abduction of Jay Jay was clearly a planned move. Obviously the abductors used cars and roads. Obviously, they used cell phones in their communications before and during the abduction. They must have driven on one or two roads that are linked to the video surveillance system cameras and other intelligence traffic systems, among others. Obviously, the abductors have continued to use cell phones and cars ever since the abduction.

Therefore, with political will, Jay Jay would have been found by now.

Political will, especially at presidency is key in matters of national importance like this.

I recall in July 1991. I was one of the political leaders invited to State House by the President at the time, Dr. Kaunda to deliberate on the Mvunga Constitution Review Report and Draft Constitution. Six of my fellow delegates were from the Copperbelt. So we arrived a day earlier. In the evening, we went for a party in Makeni area. On our way back from the party around midnight, one of our colleagues was ambushed and abducted by unknown people. We reported to Police. No action was taken to find our colleague.

The following morning, we went for the meeting at State House. Before the meeting started, we informed Dr. Kaunda that our colleague was abducted the previous evening by unknown people in Makeni area. In the meeting was the then Minister of Home Affairs General Kingsley Chinkuli.

The President immediately directed General Chinkuli to find our colleague within two hours. And he adjourned the meeting for two hours. Within an hour, General Chinkuli came back, and reported that Police have just found the delegate in Lilayi area.

At the time, there were no cell phones. There was no ZICTA. There was no Safe City National Command Centre. But there was political will. And public security systems were very efficient.

My appeal to President Hakainde Hichilema: as President of the Republic of Zambia, invoke political will in this Jay Jay’s abduction case, and for sure, he will be found. Your silence is not golden in this case.

ABOUT REPORTS OF JAY JAY IN CHIKANKATA

By Isaac Mwanza

Yesterday, my brother Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda, a legislator from Petauke Central in Zambia, was reported missing. His car was found abandoned on a highway in Lusaka.

However, some online media outlets, including the Patriotic Front Page, reported that an informant from Chikankata District claimed to have seen him in that district, in the company of UPND cadres that were reportedly driving a Toyota Hilux with the registration number BAZ 6475 CN.

It’s been strange that the authorities have remained silent on this matter, after providing a single update yesterday.

As someone with a background in investigations, I’m cautious about spreading unverified information and its potential to further risk the life of Jay Banda and jeopardise investigation. So, I took the time to verify the details of the vehicle in question.

I can confidently confirm that there is no Toyota Hilux with the registration plate BAZ 6475 CN. In fact, that registration number is for a Nissan, Civilian Model Bus that was imported and registered in Zambia on 16 January, 2023.

The abductors may have deliberately chosen Chikankata as the location where Jay Jay Banda was supposedly seen because it’s in Southern Province, which is associated with the President’s homeprovince.

By doing so, the propagandists may have aimed to manipulate public opinion against the President, exploiting the province’s connection to him. This tactic could be intended to divert attention, create confusion, or even incite unrest and ill-feelings among our people from Eastern Province.

I believe that those online media that spread this information could be putting the vehicle’s owner at risk, especially given the high emotions in the country. However, it’s possible that the criminals used a fake number plate, including a Hilux with that number.

Now, it’s up to the investigating team to take action. Here are some steps they can take:

  • Use Lusaka’s surveillance cameras to trace Jay Jay Banda’s movements up to the point where his vehicle was found abandoned.
  • Scan the area where the vehicle was found for mobile phones that were active during the time Jay Jay was reportedly moving.
  • Use toll gates and the cameras on those toll gates to verify the traffic of vehicles that crossed.
  • Don’t rely entirely on the information that he was seen in Chikankata, as his abductors might have sent that information to distract from their actual location.
  • President Hichilema should provide direction and show greater concern for the legislator’s welfare and whereabouts.

Furthermore, Members of Parliament and politically exposed persons must exercise caution and avoid traveling alone at night or using a single, easily identifiable vehicle that criminals could use to track them.

The disappearance of an MP should serve as a stark reminder that crime has reached alarming levels in our country, and it’s imperative that we take decisive action and deploy effective teams to address this issue.

Most importantly, I urge citizens, especially those on social media, to refrain from spreading propaganda that could further endanger the life of Jay Jay.

While it’s essential to give the security forces time to investigate this matter, the Zambia Police Service must prioritize restoring public trust in their ability to combat crime by expediting the investigation and ensuring Jay Jay’s safe return. At this critical juncture, the ZP command must recognize that public confidence in their capabilities is at an all-time low, but they have the opportunity to turn this around.

Burkina Faso’s military govt has announced it will extend junta rule for another five years

Burkina Faso’s military government has announced it will extend junta rule for another five years.
The country’s ruler, Capt Ibrahim Traoré, will also be able to contest the next presidential election, the state-owned broadcaster says.
When he seized power in a coup nearly two years ago, Capt Traore pledged to restore the civilian government by 1 July this year.
But Burkina Faso has now joined neighbouring Mali in extending military rule.

The move was announced on Saturday, after a national consultation meeting in the West African country’s capital city, Ouagadougou.
An amended charter, signed by Capt Traoré, states that the new 60-month transition period will take effect from 2 July this year.
“The elections marking the end of the transition may be organised before this deadline if the security situation so permits,” the Reuters news agency quoted the charter as saying.

Burkina Faso has been governed by the army since January 2022, when Lt Col Paul-Henri Damiba seized power from President Roch Kaboré.
Col Damiba justified the coup by saying the previous government had failed to deal with growing militant Islamist violence.
Since 2015, jihadist rebels affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group have waged a grinding insurgency that has killed thousands and displaced millions.

In September 2022, Capt Traoré ousted Col Damiba, arguing a second coup was necessary because Col Damiba was himself unable to tackle the insurgency.

Capt Traoré promised to improve the country’s dire security situation within “two to three months” and restore civilian rule within 21 months.

But since issuing the pledge, Capt Traoré has warned that elections are not “a priority” until territory is recaptured from jihadist forces so that all citizens of the country can vote.

Under the new charter, quotas will no longer be used to assign seats in the assembly to members of traditional parties, the AFP news agency reported.

Instead, “patriotism” will be the only criteria for selecting deputies.
The decisions made during Saturday’s national consultation happened swiftly. Local media reports indicated that political parties were absent at the start of the meeting.

International and human rights groups, including the European Union and UN, have accused Burkina Faso of serious human rights violations in its fight against Islamists, including the indiscriminate killings and forced disappearances of dozens of civilians.

Indian man sentenced to life imprisonment for cutting open his 8-month pregnant wife’s womb to check baby’s gender

A 46-year-old Indian man was sentenced to life imprisonment after he used a sickle to cut open his 8-month pregnant wife’s stomach to check if she was going to give birth to a boy or a girl.

Panna Lal, a resident of Badaun’s Civil Lines in Uttar Pradesh, had attacked his wife, Anita Devi, in September 2020.

The couple were married for 25 years and had five daughters.

However, they used to fight regularly as Panna Lal wanted her to give birth to a boy.

Anita’s family knew about the couple’s dispute and tried to convince Panna Lal to stop fighting but he threatened to divorce Anita and marry another woman to father a son.

On the day of the incident, the couple fought over the gender of the unborn baby again.

Enraged, Panna Lal threatened to cut open Anita’s stomach to check if she was pregnant with a boy or a girl.

When Anita fought back, he threatened to kill her.

He attacked her with a sickle after which she tried to run away from him. He grabbed her and used the sickle to cut open her stomach.

Anita told the court that the cut was so deep that her intestines were left hanging from her stomach.

She ran out to the street and her brother, who worked at a nearby shop, heard her screams and came to rescue her. Seeing him, Panna Lal fled the scene.

Anita was rushed to the hospital. While she survived the attack, her baby, a boy, could not be saved

The fast track court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Saurabh Saxena sentenced Panna Lai on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

In court, Panna Lal argued that Anita had inflicted the wounds on herself to file a false case against him as he was in a property dispute with her brothers.

Anita’s brother, Ravi Singh told Times of India that when his sister was pregnant for the sixth time, Panna wanted her to abort as he was convinced by a village priest that she was expecting another girl.

“But Anita was adamant on keeping the child. He’s often beat Anita but we never thought he would take such an extreme step. We are happy he got this punishment, Sadly, my sister is not yet able to live a normal life,” he said.

‘Two Trophies In 24 Months Is Not Bad’ – Ten Hag Boasts After Leading Manchester United To FA Cup Glory

Erik Ten Hag was in a boastful mood after leading Manchester United to a 2-1 win over Manchester City to win the FA Cup trophy at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

The Dutch manager ended a tough week with his second trophy of his topsy-turvy reign at Old Trafford after speculations about his future before the game.

He led Manchester United to their lowest ever finish in the history of the Premier League with a negative goal difference, and also a bottom place finish in a Champions League group which consisted of Copenhagen, Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.

However, Ten Hag has now qualified Manchester United for the Europa League next season by virtue of their victory over their arch rivals.

He was unperturbed when asked about his future amidst reports of his sacking after the final regardless of the result.

Ten Hag said: “The only thing I’m doing is preparing my team, developing my team. This is a project for me. When I came in I can say it was a mess. Now we are better. We are not where we want to be.

“Football is about winning trophies. I want to play the best football, dynamic, attacking football but in the end you have to win games and trophies. That’s the mentality we brought in. This was our one opportunity and we did it. I‘m very proud of the players and staff,

“Two trophies in two years is not bad, three finals in two years is not bad,

“If they don’t want me, then I go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what I do.”

Ten Hag led the Red Devils to the Carabao Cup in his first season in charge and also to the final of the FA Cup, which they lost to Manchester City in the 2022-23 season.

He showered praises on his players for their impressive showing against Manchester City.

Ten Hag said: “As always the rivalry is always there and it is always much more important when you play against a team from your own city. For us it was not about this, it was about proving a point after having such a bad year with so many setbacks and all the injuries and every time we had to survive. The team showed so much resilience and I am so proud of them.”

Manchester United are the lowest ranked team to win the FA Cup since Arsenal under Mikel Arteta in 2019-20 (also 8th).

NICKI MINAJ CANCELS CONCERT AFTER BEING RELEASED FROM DUTCH ARREST

Nicki Minaj has been forced to cancel her concert in Manchester, England, after Dutch police detained her for possession of marijuana, which is considered a “soft drug” in Amsterdam.

The Co-Op — the venue where Minaj was scheduled to perform on Saturday (May 25) — took to its Instagram page to announce that the concert would not be held.

“Nicki Minaj’s scheduled performance at Manchester’s Co-op Live on Saturday 25th May has been postponed,” the announcement read. “Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled performance which will be announced ASAP.

“Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible. We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused. More information will be available at your point of purchase.”

When Saturday’s drama began, the New York City native went live on Instagram from an airport in Amsterdam and pointed her smartphone camera at a member of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, who was telling the rapper that she has been arrested for “carrying drugs.”

After multiple demands for legal representation, she proceeded to get inside a police van, per the orders of the many law-enforcement officials surrounding her,.

The incident happened shortly after Minaj shared a video on Instagram in which an airline staff member can be seen informing her that all the belongings and gear she is traveling with with have to undergo a search.

“The police officer told me we have to offload all the luggage and to search everything of your luggage. I am so sorry to [tell] you that,” the man said, to which she responded: “They did just a random quick check, but now they want to open these things.”

In the caption, Minaj wrote: “They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show. They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs. This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.”

Subsequently, the Dutch police took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce that they’d released Minaj after issuing her a fine for carrying the pre-rolled marijuana joints.

AMBER ROSE DEFENDS DONALD TRUMP SUPPORT AFTER LGBTQ BACKLASH: ‘THEY ARE BRAINWASHING YOU’

Amber Rose has doubled down on her support of Donald Trump, claiming that Americans are being trained by the media to hate the controversial ex-president for no logical reason.

In a now-deleted Instagram post made on Saturday (May 25), Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend posted a video of the presumptive GOP nominee claiming that he “doesn’t mind” gay marriage, using that as proof that Americans had the wrong idea about Trump.

“I’ll just leave this here watch till the end…” she wrote in the caption. “For all the LGBTQ+ people that think after decades of allyship I would ever hate you! [scared face emoji] Stop believing the propaganda. They are brainwashing you. Start having bigger conversations instead of staying on one side of the fence.”

She continued: “Ur blind over there. I literally grew up in the Philly/NYC ballroom scene. Most of my favorite people in the world are gay and trans. People that truly know me know that! Please do your research and stop just making decisions based off what other people think. Be a free thinker -Muva.”

On Monday (May 20), the model shared a photograph with Trump and his third wife, Melania. In the caption, she wrote “Trump 2024” with three American flag emojis, making it clear who she’ll be voting for in the upcoming election.

A number of her followers began flooding the Instagram post’s comments section with criticisms of the co-sign.

“Imagine being an ‘advocate’ for women’s rights and endorsing Trump and his party who reversed Roe V Wade. Wild,” one person wrote, while another added: “You’re a Bisexual woman of color that runs a movement that stands up for Women’s rights and their power against anyone that abuses it….that’s literally OPPOSITE of what he supports.”

As the denunciation continued, Rose elaborated on her stance and wrote: “Lmaooo yall think Biden cares about black ppl??? Sad. Do ur research. I did. I’ll ALWAYS put women first. Y’all want biological men in women’s sports [rolled-eyes emoji] Trump supports the most reasonable compromise on abortion. Stop being brainwashed cuz WE’RE ppl of color. Make your own decisions.”

On the other side of the political spectrum, John Legend elaborated on his disdain for the former president last month.

“He’s not been an ally,” he said on MSNBC last month. “I think the First Step Act was fine — it was a very small reform, and to be honest, most of the reform we need is on the local and state level because most incarceration is local and state, and most of the laws that end up being criminally enforced are local and state laws, so very little impact can happen on the federal level.”

He continued: “He’s made it clear throughout his life that he believes Black people are inferior; he believes that to his core, in his bones. He is a tried-and-true, dyed-in-the-wool racist, like in the core of his being, he is a racist.”

JAY JAY’S ABDUCTION: THE COLLAPSE OF THE RULE OF LAW, ORDER AND SAFETY- Fred M’membe

JAY JAY’S ABDUCTION: THE COLLAPSE OF THE RULE OF LAW, ORDER AND SAFETY

We strongly condemn the enforced abduction and disappearance of Petauke independent lawmaker Hon. Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda in Lusaka in the early hours of yesterday.

Regrettably, Hon. Banda’s scandalous and enforced abduction and disappearance forms part of a pattern or series of events that have occurred in a similar way under the leadership of Mr Hakainde Hichilema regime.

We say this because we have been victims of the UPND’s long history of these ugly and barbaric politics. We have seen how violence and all other forms of political repression and criminality are being committed by the UPND cadres led by identifiable individuals, some of the serving Cabinet Ministers and senior party officials with full protection of the police.

Well-known and armed UPND cadres have been abducting or kidnapping, knifing, assaulting, beating and publicly threatening to “slaughter” opposition political leaders and other critical voices in the name of protecting Mr Hichilema with the police paying a blind eye. Identifiable UPND cadres have held press briefings, appeared on radio and television aggressively threatening to physically harm and “kill” opposition leaders of this country.

Our experience has been that our numerous complaints and reports to the police on these incidences have been ignored. It’s now a trend that whenever a report is made to the police, its us, the victims of Mr Hichilema’s cadres’ violence who get locked up and are prosecuted. This is the impunity that the perpetrators of such crimes are enjoying for their crimes with the help and support of the police.

The abduction and disappearance of Hon. Banda is tragic, alarming and signifies an evil turn in the country’s politics. It indicates an extremely dangerous and nerve-wracking trajectory.

This country has always guaranteed freedom of expression, association and movement to political, traditional and religious stakeholders without fear of abduction or harm. Why is this happening under Mr Hichilema’s leadership or watch? Why is Mr Hichilema and his corrupt, tribal and violent regime failing protect, respect and guarantee the right of everybody to physical security and safety? Why is Mr Hichilema quiet amidst all this chaos and violence?

Mr Hichilema must be very careful with the dangerous path he has chosen to set this country on – especially the senseless violence and impunity of his party cadres and some Cabinet Ministers. If he has not realized it, we are here to warn him that he is rapidly losing control of the situation. The heavy-handedness of the police and other law enforcement agencies, and the desperation and insanity of his party cadres are increasing exponentially, and before he knows it, the most cruel crimes in history will be committed under his name and the state of affairs will spiral out of control.

Let Mr Hichilema know that history has shown that leaders who lack empathy, tolerance and a sense of justice for others, especially critics in tough situations, invite the wrath of frustration, anger and resentment from citizens. He must also know that failed states are never an accidental occurrence, they’re a product of systematic and similar chaos, confusion, desperation, leadership indiscipline and brutish handling of affairs of the state.

We demand that Mr Hichilema and his league treat the abduction and disappearance of Hon Banda and other reported cases as serious crimes, and ensure that that justice prevails. Bring back Hon Banda back to his family!

Otherwise, this country is collapsing before our eyes and it will not be good for anyone of us to live in if its not good for us all to live in.

“I AM BECAUSE YOU ARE, AND SINCE YOU ARE, THEREFORE IAM” – JAY JAY BELONGS TO US ALL!- Hon Sunday Chanda

0

HE WRITES

“I AM BECAUSE YOU ARE, AND SINCE YOU ARE, THEREFORE IAM” – JAY JAY BELONGS TO US ALL!

In these trying times, our hearts are troubled with the news of the disappearance of one of our esteemed lawmakers— my comrade and brother Hon. Emmanuel Jay Banda. The disappearance or suspected abduction of Hon. Banda is not just an attack on an individual alone, but an affront to the very principles upon which our society and nation have been crafted and built, among these are: justice for all, Ubuntu (“I am because you are”), freedom of expression and movement, peace, security and tranquility.

There is no excuse whatsoever: The disappearance of comrade Hon. Banda is a reprehensible and unconscionable evil act that should be condemned by all well-meaning and right-thinking members of society. As Brother Minister Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) said: “You’re not to be so BLIND with PATRIOTISM that you can’t face REALITY. WRONG is WRONG, no matter who DOES it or SAYS it.” The disappearance of Hon. Jay Banda if it is what it is, is a wrong and should be condemned by all.

Unfortunately, the circumstances surrounding this incident “demonstrates that some people in our society have degenerated to a point where they cannot disagree with another person, without being violently disagreeable”, to borrow the words of Rev. Martin Luther King Jnr.

Fellow citizens, regardless of one’s tribe or one’s political persuasions— an injury to one is truly an injury to all, and in a society that values equality and freedom, and cherishes our Christian faith and other progressive religions; we cannot keep quiet or stand idly by in the face of such a ghastly evil act. Both individually and collectively, let us “dream of a world (and country) where the TRUTH is what shapes people’s POLITICS, rather than POLITICS shaping what people think is TRUE.”

I wish to extend my strongest solidarity to the family, loved ones and comrades of Hon. Jay Banda. Your pain is my pain and our pain as a nation, and your fight is my fight and our fight as a nation – the fight for a truly united nation in which we are ALL ONE, STRONG AND FREE!

To the rest of the country, I call upon each one of you to put aside divisive politics and come together as a community of abantu, united by our shared values, to demand the safe, unconditional and immediate return of a dear husband, father, brother, friend, comrade, lawmaker and fellow citizen — Hon. Emmanuel Jay Banda.

The competent authorities charged with ensuring the peace and security of the nation and its citizens, are also equally called upon to spare no effort and time to ensure the swift and safe return of comrade Hon. Emmanuel Jay Banda.

In solidarity, together with millions of fellow citizens, I also deeply implore all those directly or indirectly responsible to release our comrade unharmed; as well as to embrace the path of “learning to disagree without being violently disagreeable” in the words of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. A injury to one is an Injury to all. Together, we are stronger, and together, we will overcome.

Members of the public too have a duty to tender in any information they may have about this disappearance.

Let us spare no effort in our quest to build a nation that’s truly One Zambia, One Nation, One People!

Let love lead the way!

Hon Sunday Chilufya Chanda

UPND HAS TAKEN US BACK TO COLONIAL MENTALITY – MUKANDILA

UPND HAS TAKEN US BACK TO COLONIAL MENTALITY – MUKANDILA

…they are now kidnapping politicians

Lusaka… Sunday, May 26, 2024 ( Smart Eagles)

Lusaka Lawyer and Matero strongman Celestine Mambula Mukandila has bemoaned the continued division in the country despite “our forefather’s struggle during our attainment of independence.”

Mr Mukandila says the current regime has taken the country back to the colonial mentality, where people were disappearing.

He has accused the UPND government of practicing kidnapping politics by shutting the young voices that are talking of the struggles in the country.

Speaking during freedom fighters meeting held in Matero in commemoration of African freedom Day, Mukandila urged the freedom fighters to continue encouraging the future generations to fight for their economic and political independence.

“We know along the way, you lost a lot of your comrades but the grandchildren of those comrades are here with you today. It is us and we want to tell you to say the struggle for liberation has continued. We got independence in 1964 but now we are fighting to economic independence. Ba Zulu apa petili pano, vintu nivodula (Mr Zulu, here were we are, things are expensive) because we are not economically independent but we can assure you that we are still fighting this battle. Along the way, we have had leaders who have decided to betray your faith and your struggle, they have gone back to the West as Western puppet,” he said.

“But we are going to assure you that the struggle continues, we are going to continue to fight for the liberation of our economy. These people have decided to give the West our mines, our minerals. Our mines have been given away. But the struggle continues, we shall fight for these things. These people have taken us back to the colonial mentality, people are disappearing now. They have decided to start kidnapping politicians, a young voice that is talking, young voices that are talking for the struggle, the continuation of the struggle”.

He further assured the freedom fighters that the country will soon be united and both political and economic independence will be attained.

“So, now we are coming here to assure you to say these struggles continues, we shall not give up. The blood that was running in the bodies of Kenneth Kaunda is running in us. The spirit that you had to fight for the liberation is in us. We have reached a point where we have now told ourselves to say it can only be done by ourselves through your guidance and it can only be done by ourselves without fear of mortal individuals because now we know what we are fighting for is a bigger cause. We are fighting for the bigger cause for this nation,” said Mr Mukandila.

“And you told us to unite the country; we united the country but what we are seeing is very disappointing. Our leaders are have started dividing the country but we can assure you that we remain strong and we shall ensure that we live as one Zambia one nation. As we celebrate African freedom day, we thank you and we wish to appeal to our leaders to remain true to our nation and we shall forever remember your struggles, we will be with you”.

EMMANUEL BANDA’S DISAPPEARANCE HAS A LOT OF LEADS

0

EMMANUEL BANDA’S DISAPPEARANCE HAS A LOT OF LEADS

WHETHER stage-managed as others are implying or real, Petauke Member of Parliament Emmanuel Jay Banda’s disappearance has many leads to establish the truth about his whereabouts.

For those who do not know, Brebnar Changala has made a damning accusation against the State that actually, it is behind this. In his own words, Mr. Changala said:

“I have picked up some information that J.J made the last phone call, I think around 1am and when he was coming, he did go… because he noticed that people were following him. So from this road, he made a turn into Bauleni where he made a U-turn and according to the information, when he was joining the road once again, it (the vehicle) was stopped and stayed there until 4am. This information is from the tracking… because this vehicle is installed with a tracking device and it is very clear that this kind of behaviour can only be done by State-sponsored criminals and this is a direct accusation.

“In recent days, we have seen that this Government has become intolerant. Intolerant where it has moved the State and the state machinery to assault the very citizens they are supposed to protect, the very citizens that gave them the mandate to govern and govern within the boundaries of the law. I am seeing an emerging trend of state sponsored-anarchy, if not State-sponsored terrorism.

“Let’s monitor this situation, as hours start building… As I tell you, J.J has been missing from 1am according to the tracking system and this is 10:30 which means, almost 10 hours ago and there is no information as to whether he is alive, as to whether he is in custody elsewhere, or indeed as to whether he is alive. I call upon the police who are there to maintain law and order not to be a law unto themselves to up their game, look for this individual and bring him back to the family and to the people that he represents. We are not going to sit idle.”

So, according to Changala, the State is involved and therefore, he could be a very useful source of primary information. The police told us yesterday that when they reached the scene, they only found the vehicle and when they looked around, there was nobody. So, at what point did Mr. Changala check the tracking device on J.J’s vehicle? Was Mr. Changala’s phone connected to J.J’s tracking system? These are questions Changala should be made to answer to substantiate his claims and he must be made to answer.

There is also another conspiracy theory that J.J Banda has fled into Zimbabwe. We must admit that our borders are quite porous. Porous in the sense that a lot of politicians facing various crimes have managed to sneak out of the country incognito. The first question we ask is whether this Government is in control of the Immigration Department or it is the old system which controls everything.

We ask this question because people who faced court cases such as Chilufya Tayali and Kaizer Zulu left this country and no one knows how, yet we have officers manning our borders with their bosses who report to the President.

If J.J Banda truly left this country via the Chirundu border, why don’t we have these answers since yesterday? Who is covering up for who here? The Immigration Department has not been helpful when it comes to the exits of high-profile individuals who then raise dust about their whereabouts. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security should be serious about these issues. If people do not want to work, then they should leave. They are not doing anyone any favour.

On the other hand, the police have in custody J.J’s phones. ZICTA can do justice to lead information which could give us a picture of where J.J is and we hope they are doing a good job with the investigations because the country is eagerly waiting for the truth to come out.

Also, we cannot rule out politics being at play. We know in past years how the PF made us go through hell just to paint their opponents black. We recall how this entire country was gassed, how markets were burnt, how people were killed and maimed, just for political power.

The fact that it was the same PF that broke the news about J.J’s disappearance even before the police issued the statement, even makes it more suspicious. With Edgar Lungu and his followers camping at the police station in their push for J.J to be found, anyone could guess what is at stake.

We should not forget that the PF has a tendency of cooking up lies and believing their lies and solidify them with tears, just to make a political statement and so, we would not be surprised to hear that they planned this especially that the only way Lungu thinks he can bounce back is by making the country ungovernable by creating a crisis that would make Zambians believe he is a better devil than HH.

When you see people like Changala parading themselves to champion anything, just be careful!

KCM LIQUIDATION COURT PROCESS IS PERPLEXING: SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

By Peter Sinkamba

KCM LIQUIDATION COURT PROCESS IS PERPLEXING: SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

Since 2019 when state-owned ZCCM-IH, which is a minority shareholder in KCM launched it motion in High Court to liquidate KCM, I have always held the view that the court process was illegal right from the start.

In May, 2019, the Zambian government placed KCM in liquidation proceedings after accusing KCM of violating its operational licence and not paying all its taxes, sparking a four-year legal battle with Vedanta.

ZCCM-IH launched its court case using the Insolvency Act, which, according to Section 138 is not applicable to the mining sector. The Insolvency Act is inapplicable because the principal law for the mining sector, the Mines and Minerals Development Act, already has winding up provisions. For exactly the same reasons, the Insolvency Act is inapplicable to wind up a law firm because the Legal Practitioners’ Act already provides for such.

What is perplexing to me is that despite the illegality of the process for commencement of the liquidation for KCM, somehow, the court process has been sustained.

The other perplexing issue on KCM’s liquidation process is withdrawal of the liquidatiion from court. Last year, on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Government announced at a press conference held at Government complex that it had halted the court process and that from that point forward, Vedanta would continue to run the mines as the majority shareholder with 79.4 percent stake in KCM.

“The KCM board will be reinstated and Vedanta Resources Limited will return to its previous role as the majority shareholders,” Mine Minister Paul Kabuswe told a press conference in Lusaka.

The firm will enjoy “a renewed financing commitment towards investment in mine development and to increase production,” the Minister Kabuswe said.

Zambia is Africa’s second biggest copper-producing country on the continent after the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the sector is a major employer.

Vedanta said it will invest $1.3 billion into developing KCM over the next five years and pay the outstanding debt of $250 million upon taking over the operations. Vedanta also pledged to invest $20 million into the local mining community annually.

It is now 9 months since government announced that it had withdrawn court process. Yet, on the ground, the court process has not been withdrawn.

Yesterday, the Provisional Liquidator held a meeting with Class 1 KCM creditors in Lusaka and Kitwe to vote on a court-aligned scheme of arrangement for settling of the debt owed to them. From statements expressed at the Lusaka and Kitwe meetings, it is very clear that the creditors are not interested at all in the court process. All the creditors wanted was to paid their money by 17.00 hrs yesterday.

The liquidator informed Class 1 creditors that next week there will be a meeting with Class 2 creditors, for them to also vote on the scheme of arrangement. Thereafter, a report will be complied on the outcome of the two meetings that will be submitted to High Court. The liquidator informed Class 1 creditors that in the event that the scheme is not approved or sanctioned, then the company will proceed into final liquidation through the winding up of the business.

The perplexing question is: who is still pursuing the liquidation process after government and ZCCM-IH announced publicly on 5 September, 2023?

Perusal of the High Court Order dated 21st February, 2024, to convene the meeting of creditors to consider the scheme of arrangement shows that parties to the matter are ZCCM-IH, KCM and Vedanta Resources Holdings Limited. These are the same institutions that convened a press briefing on 5 September, 2023 announcing to the nation and the world at large that the liquidation has been withdrawn from court.

Vedanta Resources Holding Limited has announced several times that it wants to take over the operations but is inhibited by the court process. Meanwhile President Hakainde Hichilema and Mines Minister have repeatedly announced to the nation that the court process has been withdrawn.

At yesterday meeting, I asked the liquidator to clarify the position on ZCCM-IH considering that government, which owns ZCCM-IH has indicated several times that this matter has been withdrawn from court, yet from ongoings the court is still in the picture. No clear answer was given.

From yesterday Class 1 meeting, it is very clear to me that the court process is infructuous. It has proven to be fruitless. It is producing no useful results to creditors, Vedanta Resources, ZCCM-IH, and Government and the communities on the Copperbelt and Nampundwe who are supposed to have started receiving their $20 million annual allocation from Vedanta Resources. Class 1 creditors made it very clear that the court process is not only illegal but also has no meaning to them and really is unnecessary.

Class 1 creditors are persons or companies owed by KCM one million dollars and below. Class 2 creditors are persons or companies owed by KCM above one million dollars.

Class 2 creditors include Government institutions including ZCCM-IH, ZESCO, Zambia Revenue Authority, Worker’s Compensation Fund, NAPSA, NHIMA. Others are Vedanta Resources Holding companies, Trafigura, and Copperbelt Energy.

The court record shows that besides ZCCM-IH, KCM, and Vedanta Resources Holding, no other person or company in Class 1 or Class 2 is a party to the court proceedings.

So, if Class 1 and Government have found the court process to be infructuous, then who is it, that is not a party to the court proceedings, that is sustaining the court process from 5th September, 2023 to date? Is it the lawyers using legal gymnastics who are attending their accounts through this infructuous court process at the expense of the creditors and community? Or is it the accountants doing so? Or is it the liquidator? Or is their another hidden hand?

Frankly speaking, this court process mess must end now! We are sick and tired of a fruitless misadventure!!
