UKA Alliance should support Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL) as the paramount political figure for 2026- PF

UKA and PF must not betray their only Nelson Mandela & Donald Trump for 2026 in ECL: Why miss the winning penalty when there is no a goalkeeper?

1. In Brazil, Lula de Silva saved two terms left power. In his retirement, sitting President Bosonalo maliciously persecuted him for corruption and sent into jail after conviction. In 2023, Lula was out of prison and majority Brazilians asked to contest again. He convincingly defeated the man who arrested and today, Lula is president again.

2. Today, Edgar Lungu sits as Brazil’s Lula in Zambia. Many voters regret voting ECL out because HH is a Bosonalo, one who over promise, persecutes rivals and fails to deliver. Therefore, PF and UKA must not allow anyone to fight or betray their Lula in Lungu: he is the only 2026 winning password.

3. Despite the apartheid regime parading him as a terrorist and imprisoning him for 27 years, the ANC and South Africans remained focused in believing that Nelson Mandela was their lead political hope and emancipation hero. In PF and UKA today, it is shocking to learn that there are some people who think that they are politically better placed to contest and redeem Zambians from the chains of UPND and HH in 2026 outside Lungu.

4. In the ANC, challenging Nelson Mandela was deemed betrayal to liberation because he was the most popular, powerful and internationally recognized politician among them. Let PF and UKA members emulate ANC leaders going into 2026.

5. In the US, most Republicans are very clear and firm about Donald Trump as the only candidate who can forcefully compete with Joe Biden and win in December this year. They treasure his experience as a Republican President, his media punch, his capacity to fundraise and his global political stature.

6. In Israeli politics, Benjamin Netanyahu takes the same place. In Russia, Vladimir Putin is respected as such. This is the place of Lungu today in Zambian opposition politics: I appeal to PF and UKA supporters to run with this gospel always going into 2026.

7. Let everyone in PF and UKA know that, in Zambia today, only Edgar Lungu has the political stature of Brazil’s Rula De Silva, Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, South Africa’s Nelson Mandela, US’s Donald Trump, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame or Russia’s Vladimir Putin. We are talking about someone deemed the symbol of state fatherhood, political hope, freedom, citizen empowerment, happiness, national unity and peaceful coexistence.

8. Even President HH does not come close to this political stature of Lungu because most Zambians generally take Bally for a liar, failure, western puppet, traitor, conman, hypocrite, fake, selfish and too proud.

9. If your wedding knife boy takes the courage of urinating on the only cake for your life mass event for whatever reason, the only option left is to immediately and brutally red card him out of the event. For me, I see UKA betraying their only political cake for winning 2026 in ECL by allowing Luckson Mulusa to continue as their SG after insulting and attacking both Edgar Lungu and PF on Diamond TV. For now, he is still a big spoiler to the UKA end game because he is malicious to their winning formula.

10. Even after publicly disrespecting and intentionally denouncing Lungu and PF, the most important, popular and powerful stakeholders in UKA, there is no one in UKA who condemned their SG or compelled him to openly apologize, show remorse and restore credibility to the injured people. This gesture alone is treacherous and dangerous for UKA going into 2026.

11. They are dearly carrying an SG who does not respect their only Mandela, Trump, Netanyahu, Putin and Lula for 2026. To many stakeholders in PF and Zambia, this is seen as a calculated act of betrayal.

12. To some extent, the decision of appointing and keeping Mulusa in UKA as SG today is not different with the decision of brining back Miles Sampa in PF in 2017 after he voluntarily left in 2015. And later, PF made Miles both Lusaka Mayor and Matero MP. Mr Mulusa openly disrespected President Lungu when he was his cabinet minister. Today, the same Mulusa is still disrespecting Lungu in UKA as SG.

13. Who brought him in UKA and what is their key agenda? Why should UKA miss the last and winning political penalty in 2026 when the goal keeper has run away? By appointing unrepentant Mulusa who disrespects Lungu and PF as their SG, UKA is betraying everything good for them going into 2026.

14. In UKA and with that unapologetic attitude, Lucky Mulusa is their Miles Sampa in the making. How on earth can an alliance of political parties bring an SG who does not belong to any of the alliance political parties? This decision is one of the most dangerous one for such alliance.

15. In such alliances, key positions are for members of alliance parties. Where is the political loyalty and allegiance of Lucky Mulusa if he does not belong to any party in UKA? This is how good players miss penalties by thinking that they have already scored before kicking the ball.

16. This is where PF is shocking everyone. In UKA, PF MPs and Members of Central Committee (MCC) are watching as bystanders or distant observers of the alliance. They have a duty to engage ECL, submit their views and actively support Lungu to make UKA work and deliver victory in 2026. Ultimately, PF is the main beneficiary of UKA because it’s the largest party in the alliance.

17. Any senior PF member who opposes UKA is opposing rebranding and betraying the needed stakeholder partnership to dislodge UPND and HH in 2026. PF must cherish UKA and UKA must cherish PF: this is the golden rule going into 2026. In fact, it is bigger betrayal if PF MPs and MCCs fail to speak out and defend their lion’s share inside. PF is UKA and UKA is PF.

18. PF MPs and MCCs must not endorse a misplaced model in UKA that “all political parties and presidents in the alliance are equal”. There is a workable model called “UPND alliance”: the biggest party takes the lion’s share. PF leaders must guide UKA members to stop hypocrisy. Many UKA members bring only themselves into the alliance while PF brings a former republican president and a party with MPs, Councilors and members countrywide. This thinking of “equal rights and powers in UKA” is treacherous to UKA itself and everyone.

19. Shockingly, there are some senior PF members who covertly oppose UKA and think PF came bounce back in 2026 on its own. This is misplaced thinking and dangerous political betrayal. PF needs alliance members if PF is to wage a winning political battle for 2026. PF must open doors too wide and allow more stakeholders to enter: even Luck Mulusa if he shows true repentance towards PF and Lungu.

20. UKA is the best political vehicle PF needs and must cherish. Any PF leader or MP who opposes UKA is betraying everyone. UKA brings new faces, UKA brings more numbers, and UKA brings PF rebranding. Thus, PF needs UKA and UKA needs PF. This political honest is vital and crucial going into 2026.

21. In 2011, HH would have become Republican Vice President had he accepted to form an alliance with Micheal Sata and become his running mate. But arrogant HH refused to humbled himself and wanted Sata to be his vice president. That’s how PF leaders like Winter Kabimba rubbished everything and the PF-UPND alliance collapsed. However, PF through Micheal Sata ended up winning on their own and arrogant HH was left in the losing cold.

22. I hope that PF and UKA leaders will not miss the ECL train going into 2026. Political honest demands that they all front Lungu as their leader and in him or through him, they push for regime change in 2026.

23. Both PF and UKA must not act spiritual and diplomatic by assuming that winning 2026 will be automatic. They face king Saul, Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar in HH, he is brutally vicious and politically cruel to stay in power. Therefore, PF and UKA must be sober, honest, intelligent, brave and avoid digging their own graves.

24. While UKA will surely grow bigger, it is important to know that some among them will defect and others will become true Judas Iscariot and Miles Sampa soon or later. Therefore, before key decisions are made, UKA leaders must always engage and consult their parties. This is how they will insulate themselves from betray or mitigate digging risky holes in UKA and their respective parties.

25. In conclusion, it is crucial for UKA members to understand that big political parties should have their deserved bigger shares in the alliance and smaller political parties must equally gain their reciprocal smaller shares. This is the only way UKA under the leadership of PF will score that last penalty to win in 2026 with either ECL as the presidential candidate or someone else fully backed by Lungu. It’s wrong and betrayal to politicize straightforward politics.

Wilderness Ltd confirms death of American tourist…killed by bull elephant

INCIDENT AT LUFUPA ON 30 MARCH 2024

Wilderness can today confirm that an 80-year-old female American guest was tragically killed by a bull elephant while
on a game drive at its Kafue National Park destination in Zambia on Saturday (SUBS: 30 March).

Another femaleguest was also injured in this incident, when an aggressive bull elephant charged the vehicle carrying six guests and a guide who were on a game drive from Lufupa Camp. The injured guest was taken to a private medical facility in South Africa while the other four guests received treatment for minor injuries. Trauma counselling has been provided to all involved.

“At around 09h30 on Saturday the six guests were on the game drive when the vehicle was unexpectedly charged by
the bull elephant. Our guides are all extremely well trained and experienced, but sadly in this instance the terrain and
vegetation was such that the guide’s route became blocked and he could not move the vehicle out of harm’s way quickly enough” says Keith Vincent, Wilderness Chief Executive Officer.

Vincent says Kafue National Park management were immediately called to assist and that they dispatched a helicopter to the scene. Given the nature of the incident, the Police, the Department of National Parks & Wildlife, and other
authorities are involved in investigating the matter. Wilderness is cooperating fully with this process.

“This is a tragic event and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who died. We are also, naturally, supporting those guests and the guide involved in this distressing incident.

Out of sympathy to the family of the deceased and the other parties involved, it is requested that parties refrain from distributing any images or video
footage of the incident on social media.”

“Meanwhile our teams will continue to support the family of the deceased, as well those guests and staff impacted by
this event. We will also be guided by the Zambian Government on the way forward” says Vincent.

The deceased will be repatriated to her family in the USA with the support of local Zambian authorities and the US Embassy in Lusaka.

TAKEOVER OF INVESTRUST BANK BY BOZ WORRIES ZUPED

…we should strive to support local banks as opposed to having more foreign banks in Zambia

Lusaka… Wednesday April 3, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The Zambians for Peace Unity and Development (ZUPED) has expressed concern over the take over of Investrust Bank by the Bank of Zambia due to its insolviency.

Zambia’s Central Bank has announced the takeover of Investrust Bank PLC effective April 2, 2024 due to its insolvency.

Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Assistant Director – Communications, Besnat Mwanza, made the announcement in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday.

But ZUPED President Ronnie Jere says this is worrying because in July last year, the Central Bank took control of a state – owned Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ).

Mr Jere said these are entities under the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) whose chairman is President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr Jere emphasized the need for government to support local banks as opposed to depending on foreign ones.

“With effect July 21, 2023, the Central Bank took control of the Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ), and yesterday we were notified of the takeover of Investrust Bank. Why are we failing to keep and support our local banks? Something must be done,” he said.

Mr Jere has also expressed concern over the escalating high cost of living in the country saying this needs an urgent solution.

“The levels of poverty in the country are worrying. If those who are in government are not seeing it, let them go on the ground and get first time information from the people on the levels of poverty.”

He said with the introduction of loadshedding in the country, businesses are struggling to thrive.

“This is a serious issue which should not be ignored. If big entities like banks are closing, what more small businesses? Small business holders are struggling to keep their businesses, the likes of saloons, baber shops, welders and others; they are closing down.”

He hoped that homemade solutions and measures will be found by the government in order to deal with the current challenges in the country.

Senegal’s New President Names Ousmane Sonko as prime minister

0

Senegal’s newly elected President Basirou Diomaye Faye on Tuesday named popular opposition figure Ousmane Sonko as the nation’s prime minister, hours after his inauguration.

The relationship between Sonko and Faye strengthened as Senegal geared up to its elections and the opposition leaders were both released from prison two weeks before the polls. The move came after a political amnesty was announced by now former President Macky Sall.

Despite the release from prison, Sonko was barred from contesting in the nation’s elections due to a prior conviction. His supporters and other opposition leaders maintain that the legal challenges faced by the newly announced prime minister were aimed at blocking his participation in the polls.

In reaction to his barring, Sonko handpicked Faye to be the candidate representing an opposition coalition in the March 24 presidential race.

Experts say Sonko’s support catapulted Faye to presidency.

Sonko, a 49-year-old firebrand leader, is known for inspiring Senegalese youth who are frustrated with widespread unemployment and corruption among the nation’s ruling elite.

A former tax inspector, like Faye, the newly named prime minister has promised to deliver greater transparency and sovereignty for Senegal.

Aissata Sagna, a 39-year-old factor worker who worked on the president’s campaign, said Faye’s inauguration was “a day of celebration for us.”

Senegalese are facing high unemployment rates and food prices which were instigated by the war in Ukraine.

Faye and Sonko campaigned on promises to clean up corruption.

Ahead of the election, Senegal’s new president released a declaration of his assets and called on other candidates to do the same. It listed a home in Dakar and land outside the capital and in his small hometown.

Faye’s bank accounts totaled roughly $6,600. A practicing Muslim, he has two wives, both of whom were present at his inauguration.

Alione Tine, the founder of the Senegalese think tank Afrikajom Center, said the West African nation will pay attention to who he appoints to his cabinet.

Senegalese will analyze Faye’s administration “with a fine-tooth comb to see if they meet the demand for a break with the past,” he said.

Speaking to media after his appointment, Sonko said he would present Faye with a full list of proposed ministerial appointments for his approval.

“There will be no question of leaving him (Faye) alone to assume this heavy responsibility,” Sonko said. – VOA

Zimbabwe rejects US$125m loan request from ‘troubled’ Indian businessman

0

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has denied a US$125 million loan request from NV Distilleries and Breweries, a company led by the controversial Indian businessman Ashok Jain (74).

The company had proposed a large-scale sugarcane ethanol production project in Zimbabwe. The RBZ’s decision raises questions, particularly considering Ashok’s recent legal troubles in India.

News of the loan denial comes after a series of requests from NV Distilleries to the Zimbabwean government for various incentives and financial support. These requests follow on the heels of Ashok’s arrest in India on charges related to an alleged liquor smuggling operation.

Ashok, who suffers from bipolar disorder and anxiety according to court documents and available evidence contained in Indian newspapers, was released on bail in December 2022 for medical reasons.

His legal troubles in India, however, cast a shadow over his business dealings elsewhere.

NV Distilleries had previously approached the RBZ for a US$100 million loan at a subsidised rate in October 2021. Their proposal also included a request for significant government support, including free land, import duty exemptions, and a capital subsidy.

In July 2022, NV Distilleries increased their credit line request to US$125 million, citing a US$165 million line of credit extended by the Indian government to Zimbabwe.

“Reference is made to the attached letter wherein among other issues, we were requesting for the issuance of a standby line of credit (SBLC) for US$100 million in favour of an Indian bank associated with the Government of Zimbabwe at a subsidised rate of interest by any bank in Zimbabwe,” read a letter by Ashok Jain dated July 6, 2022.

“Please note that this letter serves as a follow up to the same request which we are now seeking your indulgence to have it increased to US$125 million. It is our understanding that is line of credit of US$165 million was extended by the Indian Government to the Zimbabwean Government.

“As a background, NV Distilleries and Breweries (Pvt) Ltd signed a contract with ARDA Zimbabwe in March 2022 during the Dubai Expo for growing sugarcane and Installing a sugarcane milling plant to produce sugar and ethanol. A brewery for alcohol and a distillery for whiskey, rum, gin and vodka will also be installed.

“We humbly request your intervention in the finalisation of the matter so that we can earnestly begin our operations in Zimbabwe.”

The RBZ, however, stated they had no knowledge of such an Indian credit line and could not support the issuance of the requested standby letter of credit without such backing.

“Reference is made to your letter dated 6 July 2022 on the above subject matter.

“Please kindly be advised that the Bank is not privy to the US$165 million fine of credit that was extended to the Zimbabwean Government by the Indian Government.

“Under these circumstances, we would like to advise that without such a support, we have no capacity to support the issuance of the required US$125 million Standby Letter of Credit,” read a letter signed by then RBZ governor John Mangudya dated 18 July 2022.

The RBZ’s cautious approach is seemingly based on the lack of confirmation regarding the Indian credit line. Additionally, Ashok Jain’s legal issues in India likely played a role in the bank’s decision.

NV Distilleries had promised to establish a sugarcane plantation, a milling plant for sugar and ethanol production, and a distillery for various alcoholic beverages. The company claimed the project would create over 3,000 jobs and contribute significantly to Zimbabwe’s GDP.

The RBZ’s position highlights their cautious approach to credit issuance, particularly for large projects by foreign companies facing legal challenges in their home countries.

Three years down the line, the company is yet to invest in anything towards the project. Investigations indicate that the NV Distilleries incurred no sunk costs despite proposing the project through Zimbabwe’s presidency.

Nehanda Radio understands that a former cabinet minister and one of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s current advisers (name withheld) necessitated a meeting between the county’s leader and Ashok, a confirmed “suicidal and mentally disturbed” person.

Meanwhile, authorities are currently investigating an unidentified group claiming to be Indian Army Special Forces that was recently spotted in Zimbabwe’s gold mining and chemicals manufacturing sectors.

Their presence raised concerns as they operated in vehicles marked with their affiliation and seem to have unchecked access within these sensitive areas.

More than 50 individuals are believed to be involved in the exploration of Zimbabwe’s mineral industry for two years while also being involved in military activities elsewhere.

The group’s activities have raised concerns about potential resource exploitation, illegal trade of medicines and arms, and influence peddling involving a former cabinet minister. Their presence is seen as a threat to Zimbabwe’s security, economic stability, and public safety.

Zimbabwe’s immigration department is probing the group’s potential links to corrupt officials.

Nehanda Radio understands that more than 20 Indian nationals were deported last month over inadequate documents and links to smuggling of unauthorised drugs.

World Food Programme (WFP) urges global support as Malawi faces looming food crisis triggered by El Niño

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is appealing for urgent resources to deliver life-saving food assistance to two million people reeling from the devastating impacts of drought, exacerbated by the effects of El Niño. This comes just days after Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera declared a state of disaster.

The El Niño impact is exacerbating the devastating effects of the climate crisis in Malawi. The country is still suffering from the impacts of tropical storms and cyclones in 2022 and 2023 and the compounded effect is to push up to 40 percent of Malawi’s population into hunger, threatening both lives and livelihoods. Prolonged dry spells have damaged crops in Southern and Central regions, while flooding has washed away crops in Northern and Central areas.

As national maize stocks run low, the country has been forced to import staple commodities, driving food prices to alarming levels. Maize prices nearly doubled in just one year and tripled against the five-year average. With over 80 percent of the population relying on agriculture to cover basic needs, the steep decline in staple crops such as maize, rice, soya beans, cowpeas and groundnuts has been devastating for millions of people.

“The impact is huge, and so are the needs,” said Paul Turnbull, WFP Country Director and Representative in Malawi. “We can avert a hunger catastrophe for the hardest hit families, but time is not on our side. I’m calling on the international community to step up now and help us save lives.”

On 23 March, Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera declared a State of Disaster, in 23 out of Malawi’s 28 districts affected by El Niño conditions. The Government’s preliminary assessment is that close to two million farming households and 749,000 hectares, representing 44 percent of the national crop area have been affected. As a result, the onset of the 2024/2025 lean season is anticipated to be earlier and more severe than usual. WFP will cover part of the food assistance requirements and needs US$ 70 million to provide emergency food assistance to two million people for three months, delivering a combination of in-kind and cash to affected households. Given the long lead times to procure food to address dire humanitarian needs, WFP aims to pre-position supplies by October to mitigate the impact of the coming lean season.

Collaborating with the Malawi Government, particularly the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA), WFP will continue to ensure effective logistics support for the transportation of maize. WFP can also provide procurement and transport services to import cereals.

Notes: The El Niño impact is exacerbating the devastating effects of the climate crisis in Malawi. The country is still suffering from the impacts of tropical storms and cyclones in 2022 and 2023 and the compounded effect is to push up to 40 percent of Malawi’s population into hunger, threatening both lives and livelihoods.

plastic surgery “addict” who spent over $50k to transform herself into Marilyn Monroe is now reversing procedures for a “natural look”

A plastic surgery “addict” who spent over $50k to transform herself into Marilyn Monroe is now reversing procedures for a “natural look”.

Serena Smith, 24, from California decided she wanted to change her appearance when she was 18.

The Beverly Hills based beauty first opted for a boob job – which cost her $7,500 to go from an A cup to a bustier D.

From here, the songstress got a taste for all things cosmetic surgery. This led Serena down a path of extreme procedures that would change her looks to appear closer to Marilyn Monroe’s look.

She spent $12,000 on a nose job and a further $20,000 on a Brazilian butt lift (BBL).

She also got Botox, along with fillers in her forehead, lips, chin, and cheeks.

In total, Serena has spent over $50,000.

However, she’s now ready for a drastic change after feeling like she was turning into an “alien.”

She told The Sun: “I am trying to embrace natural beauty a little bit. I am not saying I am done with getting procedures or anything, but I want to embrace my natural look.

“I loved my appearance, but over time I have realised it wasn’t working for me. Maybe it comes with growing older, you learn to accept your beauty a little bit more.”

Serena said she has noticed that “things are going more down to basics” as the more natural look is being embraced by many at the moment.

She recently went to the clinic to het a large amount f filler dissolved after she felt her filler pumped chin was making her appear to have similar features to an “alien”.

Serena said she now wants to “keep things fresh” and noted that people change, so do their styles and look. She had her extreme surgery aesthetic for three years, and now feels like it’s time to change.

Serena concluded: “I am not saying I am done with plastic surgery, but I am going for a more subtle look with my result.”

Man Utd’s Raphael Varane ‘cry’ over concussions from heading football; advises son against it

0

Manchester United defender, Raphael Varane, has opened up about the issue of concussions in football, revealing his personal experiences and advising caution, especially to his son.

Varane, who has encountered concussions while playing for France and Real Madrid, expressed concern over the inadequate awareness and handling of head injuries in the sport.

Reflecting on incidents like the 2014 World Cup match against Nigeria, where he continued playing despite a concussion, Varane emphasised the need for better recognition and management of such injuries to prevent potential long-term consequences.

In an interview with L’Equipe, Varane said, “I finished the match but I’m in ‘autopilot’ mode. If someone had spoken to me at that time, I don’t even know if I would have been able to respond.”

However, he did not dare to miss the World Cup quarterfinal against Germany, which Les Bleus lost 1-0.
“I was not in my normal state and so I was taken care of,” he said. “I had lost weight because I was dehydrated, I was out of shape but played because it was a World Cup quarterfinal.”

Varane also recounted another unsettling experience during a La Liga game for Real Madrid against Getafe in 2020. Following a blow to the head, he endured severe fatigue, prompting his substitution.

Despite this, the effects lingered for days, leaving him drained. However, he had little time to recuperate, with a crucial Champions League fixture against Manchester City looming on the horizon.

He was not 100 percent in the warm-up and “felt like a spectator” during the match.

He was so exhausted that he “almost wanted to slap” himself in a desperate attempt to get back to his optimum level. It ended up being one of the worst displays of the French defender’s Real Madrid career, as his individual errors led to a 2-1 loss for Los Blancos.

Varane also disclosed that he became aware of micro-concussions – incremental head impacts leading to concussions – only recently and even had to sit out a game for United earlier this season due to “eye fatigue.”

“The first time I heard about [micro-concussions] was this season when specialists came in to talk to us about it… Often, as players, we don’t understand and we don’t even think about doing a test,” he said.

“Earlier this season, I headed the ball repeatedly during a match for Manchester United and felt abnormally tired in the following days, as well as having some eye fatigue. I reported it to the staff, who strongly recommended that I don’t play, and I took a test, which meant that I missed the next match.”

Varane says medical experts have suggested United players refrain from heading more than 10 times in training sessions. Although this cannot be maintained in a live match, the defender does not want his seven-year-old son to go through the same ordeal, and has hence advised him not to head the ball at all.

“My seven-year-old son plays football, and I advise him not to header the ball,” he said. “Even if it does not cause immediate trauma, we know that in the long term, repeated shocks are likely to have harmful effects. I don’t know if I will live to be 100, but I know that I have damaged my body. As footballers playing at the highest level, we are used to pain, we are a bit like soldiers, tough guys, symbols of physical strength, but these symptoms are almost invisible.

“If your leg hurts and you limp, everyone sees it. But with head injuries, it immediately feels weak to say that you are tired, that you have migraines or eye fatigue… So at first, we tell ourselves that it will pass.”

As United prepare for their upcoming match against Chelsea, Varane’s revelations serve as a reminder of the importance of prioritising player welfare and increasing awareness of concussion risks in football.

The FA protocol insists that no player should be allowed to continue if he is seemingly suffering from concussions in both matches and training sessions.

Ex-employee sues Kanye West

0

A former employee of Trevor Phillips has filed a lawsuit against Kanye West over alleged bizarre plans for kids attending his Donda academy.

Phillips who disclosed that he was brought on to the Yeezy org in late 2022, also claimed that Kanye openly espoused antisemitic rhetoric at the school. He further revealed that he was tasked with growing the cotton production for Kanye’s fashion line.

He claimed his duties quickly expanded and started to encompass handling Ye’s Donda Academy school as well, which he says started to experience difficulty as a result of Kanye’s public rants.

Ex-employee sues Kanye West, claims he wanted jail at Donda academy

Phillips said Kanye frequently shared his antisemitic views with Donda Academy staffers, and also around students. During one particular meeting, Phillips alleged Ye was spewing antisemitic rhetoric as he announced in front of 2 children, he wanted to shave their heads, and intend to create a jail at the school, threatening students could be locked in cages under his proposed plan.

Phillips also described a bizarre incident when he met Kanye at the Nobu Hotel in Malibu. Ye allegedly complained to the staff about the fact Batman wasn’t playing in the room they were in, and then said, “These Jews are greedy,” and declared “Hitler was great” and “He’s the reason we have cars.”

Kanye also talked about having a porn addiction. Phillips claimed that Ye told him he used to have orgies every day, but now he’s just masturbating a lot. During this same encounter, Phillips claimed Ye declared he intended to go on the attack against gay people, too, allegedly saying “Gay people are not true Christians. And gay people are controlled by Bill Gates so that they don’t have children for population control.”

Phillips also alleged Ye made a habit of berating and bullying Black employees, including himself, at Donda. In the end, he said he was fired by Kanye on a whim in May 2023, during a Sunday Service.

He later learned he was canned because Kanye didn’t like the garden on display during the service. Phillips is suing Kanye for discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment and a host of other things. He is also seeking major damages.

One of Britain’s most wanted men is arrested at Heathrow Airport after returning from Thailand following 27 years on the run

0

One of the UK’s ‘most wanted’ fugitives has been arrested at Heathrow Airport after 27 years on the run over ‘child sex attacks’.

Richard John Ramsey Burrows, now, 80, failed to turn up for a trial at Chester Crown Court in December 1997.

He had been charged with two counts of serious sexual assault and 11 counts of indecent assault related to the historical abuse of children alleged to have happened between 1969 and 1971, Cheshire Police said. The sexual assault were reported to have happened in a children’s home in Congleton, Cheshire, while others were alleged to have happened in Hartlebury, Worcestershire.

Since then Mr. Burrows, a former Scoutmaster from Audlem, Cheshire, has been on the run.

Last Thursday, he was detained at London’s Heathrow Airport having returned to the UK from Thailand.

Following his arrest, Burrows has been remanded in police custody and he is set to appear at Chester Crown Court today.

Detective Inspector Eleanor Atkinson said: ‘Our determination to locate Burrows has not faltered over the past 27 years and his arrest marks a significant step forward in this case and the beginning of closure for all those involved.

‘I would like to thank the public for the information that they have provided over the years during our search for Burrows and I hope that his arrest provides some reassurance.

‘I also hope that his arrest acts as a warning to any other wanted suspects – demonstrating that no matter how long you hide, we will find you and you will be arrested.’

Extensive enquiries were carried out over the years, with him being listed as being among national crime charity Crimestoppers’ most wanted people in the UK.

The arrest was carried out following joint work between Cheshire Police and the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Duncan Burrage, NCA International Liaison Officer in Thailand, said: ‘Utilising our international network and working closely with Cheshire Police colleagues, we have been able to track down a fugitive wanted in connection to extremely serious allegations.

‘This arrest demonstrates law enforcement’s unwavering commitment to hunt down those who await justice in the UK.’

Shannen Doherty reveals she’s preparing for her death amid Stage 4 cancer battle by giving away her belongings

American actress, Shannen Doherty has disclosed that she is preparing for her death by giving away and selling her items as she continues her brave battle with Stage 4 breast cancer.

Speaking on her podcast Let’s Be Clear Monday, Doherty, 52, said she’s been giving away her possessions in an effort to make things easier for her mother Rosa Doherty, in the event she should pass away amid her health condition.

‘My priority at the moment is my mom – I know it’s going to be hard on her if I pass away before her,’ the Beverly Hills, 90210 star said. ‘Because it’s going to be so hard on her, I want other things to be a lot easier. I don’t want her to have a bunch of stuff to deal with. I don’t want her to have four storage units filled with furniture.’

She added of the downsizing process: ‘It feels like you’re giving up on something that was very special and important to you.

‘But you know that it’s the right thing to do and that it’s going to give you a sense of peace and a sense of calm. Because you’re helping the people that you leave behind just have a cleaner, easier transition.’

The Memphis, Tennessee-born actress, who has had candid conversations about her mortality on the podcast, said she knows ‘it’s never going to be easy for the people in [her] life but maybe it’s more about ease for’ herself.

‘I’m not enjoying it and others aren’t enjoying it, and do I really need any of it? Do I need to have three dining room tables?’ she said of the items.

‘The answer is no, none of us really need all the stuff that we have, and we could all do with a little bit of downsizing and not become a hoarder, which I was doing with all my furniture.’

The Charmed star said that she planned on selling off some items to garner funds to travel with her mother.

‘It’s just stuff,’ Doherty said. ‘I don’t need this, it doesn’t really bring me any great joy, but what does bring me great joy is taking my mom to the places that she’s always wanted to go to.

‘I get to build different memories – I get to build memories with the people I love.’

Doherty said that the vacations she planning on, funded by the sale of the aforementioned belongings, will not cut into the money she’s planning on leaving her loved ones.

‘I’m not digging into the money that’s in my estate that is going to make sure everybody in my life is taken care of,’ she said.

Doherty said of the proceeds from selling the furniture: ‘It allows me to take more trips because I’m making money, I’m selling it. Then I get to build different memories and I build memories with the people that I love.

‘I get to take my mom on vacations because I have all this extra play money lying around and I’m not digging into the money that’s in my estate that’s going to make sure that everybody in my life is taken care of once I’m dead.’

The Heathers actress said her mother was emotional amid a trip they took to Italy years back, as she ‘had tears pouring down her face because she never really thought that she would see that, and she certainly didn’t think that she was going to be able to see that with me.’

Doherty said the vivid memories ‘are the things that matter the most – not your possessions, not what you have.’

Doherty added, ‘I’m also now reminded of the freedom that giving that up has provided me.’

Doherty was initially diagnosed in 2015 with breast cancer and went into remission in 2017. In February 2020, said she had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, and in November of 2023, she said that the cancer had spread to her bones.

Also in January of 2023, Doherty and ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko separated, and she revealed they were divorcing in April amid ‘irreconcilable differences.’

Doherty claimed Iswarienko, who she was married to since 2011, was unfaithful to her, which he has denied.

The actress has been twice; to Ashley Hamilton from 1993-1994, and to Rick Salomon from 2002-2003.

Ajax suspends CEO after two weeks of appointment over alleged insider trading

0

Ajax’s tumultuous season faced a new setback on Tuesday as their chief executive, Alex Kroes, was suspended by the club over suspected insider trading, just two weeks into his tenure.

Kroes has been immediately suspended, with Ajax indicating their intention to terminate his contract.

The Dutch club made this decision after discovering that Kroes purchased more than 17,000 shares in Ajax a week before his appointment was officially announced on August 2, 2023. Following legal counsel, Ajax concluded that Kroes likely engaged in insider trading.

Kroes assumed the role of CEO on March 15, after being proposed for the position and chairman of the board in August 2023.

His start at Ajax was delayed due to a one-year non-compete clause in his contract with AZ Alkmaar, where he served as the director of international football strategy. Kroes was selected to succeed Edwin van der Sar, who resigned as general director and CEO in May 2023.

“We are deeply dismayed that this has occurred at Ajax, as it is highly detrimental to the club and everyone who holds it dear to them,” Ajax chairman of the supervisory board Michael van Praag said in a statement. “Alex Kroes’ actions are not in line with what Ajax stands for. The timing of his share purchase indicates insider trading.

“Such a violation of the law cannot be tolerated by a publicly listed company, especially when it involves the CEO. After careful consideration, the supervisory board has therefore concluded that Alex’s position as a director of Ajax is untenable. I want to emphasise that the technical policy will continue with the individuals in place and on the path Ajax was already on with Alex.”

In a statement published to LinkedIn, Kroes said he will refer this case to the Netherlands’ Authority for Financial Markets (AFM) to “arrive at an independent judgement.” Kroes said he bought shares on July 26, 2023, as a sign of faith in the project at Ajax and before he signed his contract to become their new CEO.

“I have been an Ajax player since I was nine,” Kroes said. “I have always been involved in the club, as a player and as a member. In my heart and later also through these shares. Shares that I bought out of involvement in the club. Out of confidence in the club. Not to make quick money, but as a positive signal to all stakeholders.

“I have always said in recent times that I want all the attention to be on Ajax, not on Alex. But my moral compass says that I cannot simply accept this decision of the Supervisory Board. I will now independently go to the AFM to present my matter in order to arrive at an independent judgment.

“All this causes unrest for Ajax and I sincerely regret that. Hopefully this period will be over soon. From today onwards, with a heavy heart, I will watch from a distance what is happening at Ajax. Ajax must become Ajax again.”

HICHILEMA’S MISCOMMUNICATION AND LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF PEOPLE’S REAL NEEDS -Fred M’membe

HICHILEMA’S MISCOMMUNICATION AND LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF PEOPLE’S REAL NEEDS

It is becoming increasingly clear that Mr Hakainde Hichilema does not understand nor empathise with people’s current suffering due to the high cost of living.

Mr Hichilema should understand that people are having very serious difficulties accessing food, medicines, and transport. They are unable to eat, seek medical attention, travel long distances to attend to family emergencies, pay rent, buy electricity, buy clothes for their children, and so on and so forth.

This government is fixated on ‘we found Kwacha at K24’ (which is a lie because it was K15.89 at some point in August 2021), ‘we found inflation at 24%’ which is all rhetoric. But what a common man in the street is concerned about is that things were more affordable during those conditions than now.

The common man is not interested in macroeconomic indicators but being able to afford basic commodities, which they now can’t afford. This has arisen because household income has remained static whilst costs keep rising, and consequently, household purchasing power is going down every month. So, talking to a starving man about investment pledges and debt restructuring when they are hungry is an exercise in futility.

The real solution people want is bringing down the cost of living. Most of the initiatives this government is boasting about are long-term measures, which can not save a dying person who has been given a prescription and can’t buy medicines.

We need immediate policy measures to bring down the cost of living. That is the current missing link. If it means introducing selective targeted subsidies to save people’s livelihood, so be it.

Prices are going up daily and causing discontent amongst common citizens. Everywhere you go, people are complaining about hunger.

Just as an example, why would a gardner earning K900 a month celebrate whether Dollar is K15 or K30? His interest is that he was buying mealie-meal at K130 under those harsh conditions Mr Hichilema is espousing in 2021, but now he is paying K300, and his salary has remained the same. Mr Hichilema needs a reality check. Lining up students won’t feed the common man on the streets.

The sooner HH realises that the better.

I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN ECL AND A MERE CADRE

Former President Edgar Lungu’s recent actions, which include attempts to undermine the current administration led by HH, underscore his failure as a leader during his administration marked by brutality. His continued interference in political matters and disregard for the democratic principles that he himself failed to uphold demonstrate his lack of statesmanship.

Under his rule, public institutions suffered greatly, with many in need of rehabilitation due to his mismanagement. Lungu’s behavior reflects arrogance and a refusal to acknowledge that his presidency ended in 2021, yet he continues to capitalize on the current political climate to incite civil disobedience. His rhetoric often hints at inciting people to rise against the current government, revealing his desperation and willingness to resort to anything to regain power.Calls for both Lungu and the current president to tone down miss the mark. It’s Lungu who needs to lead by example and demonstrate the behavior expected of a former head of state. His actions, such as obstructing HH from participating in public events and limiting his ability to campaign freely, tarnish his legacy. Despite this, Lungu now freely moves about without any hindrance.

Lungu’s disregard for the rule of law, as evidenced by his actions during the 2016 presidential petition, further diminishes confidence in his leadership. It’s time for him to acknowledge his mistakes and step back from the political arena, allowing the current administration to govern without interference. We recognize the level hatred towards Hakainde Hichilema, ECL and his association have, but in this instance, credit should be given where it’s due. Uniting a country intentionally divided isn’t easy. The PF was ruthless towards former President RB, as they pursued the removal of his immunity. ECL was one of those MPs who voted to remove RB’s immunity at that time.

In contrast to Lungu’s divisive tactics, HH has shown tolerance and a commitment to promoting unity. Lungu’s behavior only serves to fuel confusion and anarchy, further harming the nation he once led and misguided. It’s crucial that Lungu leads by example and demonstrates respect for the democratic process and the rule of law that he failed to respect whilst serving as a republican president. I don’t get the rationale that HH should tone down.

CALLING BAROTSELAND NON EXISTENT AN INSULT TO FAITHFUL VOTERS OF WESTERN PROVINCE – SOCIALIST PARTY

CALLING BAROTSELAND NON EXISTENT AN INSULT TO FAITHFUL VOTERS OF WESTERN PROVINCE – SOCIALIST PARTY

….questions why Cornelius Mweetwa has not been arrested after being reported to the police for promoting hate speech

LUSAKA——- Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024

THE Socialist Party (SP) General Secretary, Dr. Cosmas Musumali, has condemned the characterization of Barotseland as nonexistent, terming it an affront to the faithful voters of Western Province.

Highlighting the significance of Barotseland to the people of Western Province, Dr. Musumali emphasized that dismissing its existence was disrespectful to faithful voters.

He urged recognition of Barotseland’s historical and cultural significance, emphasizing that its existence predates Zambia itself.

And Musumali questioned the lack of action against a Chief Government spokesperson reported for promoting hate speech during the 2021 election.

He highlighted the gravity of the situation, citing remarks allegedly made to engineer insults against a named tribal grouping for political gain.

“You find a whole minister, this is a government spokesperson, actually saying, we engineered a situation where the Tonga people had to be insulted so that sympathy can accrue to us. Listen to it carefully. Here is a government that says, actually, we paid the people so that they could insult our constituency so that sympathy can come to us. And what did Fred M’membe do? Fred M’membe reported to the police. It’s a crime. Has that person been arrested? Has that person been fired? The answer is no,” He said.

“So, how does the bitterness come in. Those Tonga people that are being insulted, what have they done wrong to the UPND? This is the base of the UPND. They have been faithful voters. People of Western province have been faithful voters. You go somewhere without being provoked, you are telling them you don’t exist, Barotseland doesn’t exist. And all that Fred M’membe says is, look here, Barotseland has been there even before Zambia. What are you talking about?”

Meanwhile, Dr. Musumali debunked claims made by the United Party for National Development (UPND) that his party’s President, Dr. Fred M’membe, was bitter.

He asserted that Dr. M’membe’s efforts to highlight government shortcomings were crucial in providing checks and balances on behalf of the people.

Dr. Musumali emphasized Dr. M’membe’s empathy towards the Zambian populace, particularly in addressing issues such as poverty and corruption.

He underscored Dr. M’membe’s role as a spokesperson for the voiceless and criticized attempts to label him as bitter, stating that it undermines the intelligence of the masses.

Dr. Musumali reiterated the Zambian masses’ awareness of the government’s failures and urged authorities to address concerns raised by the SP leader and many others.

SENSELESS, ILL-CONCEIVED ATTACKS ON DR. M’MEMBE WILL NOT REVIVE THE BELEAGURED UPND

By Faston Mwale, Socialist Party– MCC

It is sufficiently clear from the vicious diatribe of Mr. Batuke Imenda, Secretary General of the United Party for National Development directed at Dr. Fred M’membe, leader of the Socialist Party, that there is something appallingly wrong in the sale of the 51 percent shares of Mopani to the International Resources Holdings of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The vitriolic reaction to Dr. M’membe’s statement that posited that 51 percent shares of Mopani have been sold to IRH without following the due process of the law raises legitimate suspicion about the integrity of the transaction. How is it wrong to ask about why government has by passed parliamentary oversight as is required by law regarding the sale of public assets? But instead of addressing the issue at hand, Mr. Imenda tacitly evades the gist of the question and launches a disproportionately hostile tirade attacking the persona of Dr. M’membe.

If the transaction has a legal backing, then why has the UPND become so schizophrenic, so paranoic over a straightforward statement? Senseless attacks on those speaking on behalf of the struggling masses will not erase the fact that Zambians have become acutely aware that what they elected into government is nothing else but a band of opportunistic self–centered parasitic comprador bourgeoise class that has perfected the art of profit mongering antics.

Alleging that Dr. M’membe is just bitter and envious of the UPND represents politics of the lowest order. What is enviable about the UPND? A party that has ravaged the lives and livelihoods of most of the people cannot be envied. No way!

Today six out of every ten people have been consigned to the worst forms of subsistence. The cost of living crisis is ever becoming worse by the day. Millions of households including large numbers of middle class families are today experiencing the inhumanity of hunger. It is true that our people are in desperate need of jobs but their predicament must not be used as a basis for selfish leaders to enrich themselves. It is immoral.

As of March, 2024, the Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket now stands at K10, 603 .40 representing a 2.9 percent increase in comparison to the month of February 2024. Today, the common subject of conversation in public and private spaces is about how the UPND cheated its way into government.

It is not in question that many working-class families (employed and unemployed) are openly expressing deep resentment against the deceptive reign of the UPND government. It is scandalous that a party that spent roughly two decades in opposition could become very unpopular barely two and half years in government. A senseless and ill-conceived attack on Dr. M’membe will not revive the badly broken image of the UPND. Kuya bebele!

SPEAKERS SPEAK MORE THAN MPs IN PARLEY – MUNDUBILE

SPEAKERS SPEAK MORE THAN MPs IN PARLEY – MUNDUBILE

Lusaka – Tuesday, 2 April, 2023.

MPOROKOSO PF member of parliament Brian Mundubile says Presiding Officers not only lack a comprehensive understanding of the parliamentary system, but also speak more than the elected MPs.

And Mundubile says there is a lack of transparency and accountability in the UPND government, noting that if there were, the Mopani deal would have been taken to Parliament.

Meanwhile, Mundubile says the true perpetrators of crime are out there, not the individuals being seen in court.
Speaking on Millenium TV’s “The Platform” Sunday, Mundubile said Presiding Officers seemed to view some members of parliament in the opposition as enemies to the system.

“What is supposed to happen is that the Speakers, Government Chief Whip, Leader of Opposition, Opposition Whips, are actually on one side. So, when there is a situation on the floor of the House, the Speaker actually appeals to the leaders in the House being the Government Chief Whip, the Leader of Opposition and the other whips to take care of the situation. When the Leader of Opposition rises to his feet and appeals to the presiding officer that he wants to help, that should be a welcome idea to the presiding officer because you are actually helping the House,” he said.

“The misfortune is that we have presiding officers who may not comprehensively understand the parliamentary system. They feel by virtue of being in opposition, I am an enemy to the system. So, if he had given me an opportunity, I was actually going to help him”.

Mundubile said he expected members of parliament to speak more in Parliament, but observed that, contrary to his expectation, the Speakers spoke more instead.

“If you look at the current Parliament for instance, I don’t think you even know the names of the Whips. I don’t even know who the Whips are. It’s rare that presiding officers are making use of the Whips. So, we are actually spending a lot of time by presiding officers engaging members directly. It’s not supposed to be like that. A functional House is actually run by the Whips. Presiding Officers are there as umpires, referees, just to regulate.

So, what you have now, you have Presiding Officers speaking all the time. They speak more than the elected Members of Parliament. That is a House full of members, it’s a House for the people. So, you’ll expect members to speak more than Presiding Officers. Unfortunately, what happens is the exact opposite,” he said.

“I may just give a quick example. For instance, let’s say a member of parliament is given eight minutes to debate and in between, he wants to give some examples, he wants to give some background, you’ll see Presiding Officers interjecting and taking three minutes. The watch has stopped but the Speaker has taken three minutes in trying to guide a member, meaning that particular debate has taken 13 to 14 minutes, that’s a waste of time”.
And Mundubile said there was a lack of transparency and accountability in the UPND government.

“It’s a source of concern actually. It started with the transfer of shares from ZCCM-IH to First Quantum; 20 percent because Article 210 is very clear; any disposal or transfer of public assets or property should be subject to Parliament approval. They’ve been building on, 20 percent didn’t come to Parliament, dual carriageway didn’t come to Parliament and now Mopani. It is because there’s no transparency and accountability in the UPND government. If there was transparency and accountability, even the deal on Mopani would have come to Parliament because if that had come to Parliament, the first question we would have asked [is] there was a tender for Mopani and there were four bidders,” he said.

“The one that was selected was not among the four bidders that were interested in the mine. We would have occasion to interrogate why this newly formed company which was formed around the same time the tenders were out is now the one that has been selected as the best selected bidder. We would have wanted to know more about the background of this company whose address is just a cell number. We would have known why there are so many things that are unclear about the company. We would have also wanted to know why President Hakainde Hichilema’s best friend is on the Board of that new company. We would have had occasion to ask these difficult questions”.

He added that the true perpetrators of crime were out there, not the individuals being seen in court.

“There are many things that have come on the floor of the House for the sake of information so that the Zambian people are informed. Their representatives ask questions on clarifications. Now, these big transactions are being done outside Parliament completely and for obvious reasons. So, whilst the Courts are filled with people who have been arraigned because they built their houses brick and mortar, they are being questioned where they got the money from, we have our leaders, looting our mines in broad daylight with their friends as Zambians sit back and watch. The real criminals are out there not those ones that you are seeing in the Magistrate Complex,” said Mundubile.

LUSAKA BUSINESSMAN CLAIMS FAITH MUSONDA’S LAND EARMARKED FOR ACC FORFEUTURE

LUSAKA BUSINESSMAN CLAIMS FAITH MUSONDA’S LAND EARMARKED FOR ACC FORFEUTURE

BUSINESSMAN Samuel Mulozi has come to the aid of ‘billionaire’ journalist Faith Musonda, claiming ownership of her land in Ibex Hill, property no. F378a/11, which he wants to redeem from the ACC, on reasons that it is wrongly a subject of litigation.

Mulozi has submitted before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court that Musonda’s Television station Life TV sits on property no. F/378a/11/F which is a subdivision of his property F378a/11 that the Commission has earmarked for forfeiture.

In this matter the Anti-graft body wants the Court to forfeit Musonda’s house in Kingsland City a farm in Chisamba, business premises, Money in her Bank accounts and farm machinery on reasons that they were illegally acquired.

The ACC has cited Faith Musonda and her companies Sela Property Investments Limited, Convenant Broadcasting Company ,Life Television limited as interested parties in the matter.

The properties that have been seized and earmarked for forfeiture are ; Plot no. LUSAK/LN_24982/3 in Kingsland City, plot no. F/1504/A in Chisamba, plot no. F/378a/11 in Ibex Hill, Bank of Zambia Government bonds issue no.01/2021/BA, Treasury bills issue no.11/2021TBs, Madison Finance Fixed term deposits unit no. 1140446 and assorted jewels.

Others are a Tafe tractor 7515 75HP-unregistered, plough disc BD mounted AF3, Harrow Disc BD GHO-R mounted 16, planter BD PLB-4 mounted row, sprayer Boom Jacto(M) condor M12, Trailer 5TN steel deck and a Toyota Allion registration no.72M.

However Mulozi has found an affidavit opposing an affidavit in support of originating notice of motion, claiming ownership of the land that encompasses the TV station.

He explained that the property knowns as F/378a/11 is the entire extent of the land and not a subdivision belonging to the journalist.

Mulozi said his lawyers wrote to the ACC informing it about the correct status of the property but no action has been taken to rectify the said error.

“Musonda’s subdivision was already marked off and has an independent survey diagram which describes the actual subdivision that was acquired and the same is known as subdivision F of subdivision 11 of Farm 378a Ibex Hill, and should reflect as F/378a/11/F and not F/378a/11,” he stated.

“I applied for other subdivisions to be created on my land and the same was denied by the Commissioner of lands for the reason that there was a restriction notice placed on the land.”

Mulozi said he has not been able to deal with his land as he wishes and the same has caused him great inconvenience.

“The applicants actions and error ought to be corrected to avoid me facing any further inconvenience when dealing with my land,” he said.

“The Commissioner of lands guided that the restriction notice can be placed directly on the actual subdivision F of Farm 378a/11 belonging to Musonda and not on the entire portion of land. I risk my entire portion of land being forfeited to the state if the said process is left as it is, as the property number listed as F/378a/11 and that it belongs to the first Musonda is incorrect as that is my property.”

He said the property being referred to as subdivision no.F/378a/11 has his house and the land is in extent of 3 hectares more or less and that the subdivision where Life TV is situated is known as subdivision F of property no.F/378a/11 and measures only 2441 square meters or 0.60 acres.

“The applicant(ACC) is supposed to refer to the subdivision that was acquired by the interested party from Samuel Mulozi which is known as F/378a/11/F. We respectfully urge this court to hold that the said property known as F/378a/11 should not be a subject of this litigation as it mistakenly mentioned,”said Mulozi.

Netanyahu promises to shut down Al Jazeera

0

Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu said he will close Al Jazeera in Israel because he believes it spreads dangerous ideas. The parliament passed a law to make this possible.

Netanyahu promised to increase Israel’s conflict with Al Jazeera. This may also make tensions with Qatar, which owns the channel, worse. This comes at a time when Qatar is trying to help stop the fighting in Gaza. Neither Qatar nor the broadcaster said anything right away.

Israel and Al Jazeera have not gotten along for a while. Israel says Al Jazeera is not fair to them. Relationships between two parties became very bad almost two years ago when a journalist from Al Jazeera, Shireen Abu Akleh, was killed during a military operation by Israel in the West Bank.

The journalist was famous in the Arab world for talking about Israel, and the channel said Israel purposely killed her. Israel said they didn’t do it and that the Palestinian woman was probably accidentally shot by Israeli soldiers.

The relations got even worse after Israel started a war against Hamas in October. In 2007, a militant group attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and kidnapping 250 others.

In December, an Israeli attack killed a cameraman from Al Jazeera while he was covering the war in southern Gaza. The leader of the news team in Gaza, Wael Dahdouh, got hurt in the attack too.

The network said Israel is responsible for killing Dahdouh’s son in an attack in January. Hamza Dahdouh was working for Al Jazeera when a car he was in got hit by a strike. The army said that Hamza Dahdouh was in Islamic Jihad, a militant group in October. 7 attacks by Hamas.

Last October, Wael Dahdouh lost his wife, daughter, another son, and his grandson in an Israeli attack. The TV showed Dahdouh going into the hospital and looking very sad as he looked at his dead son. Israel has not told us who they were aiming to hit with that attack.

Al Jazeera is one of the few news outlets from other countries that stayed in Gaza during the war. They showed videos of airstrikes, crowded hospitals, and said that Israel was killing a lot of people. Israel says that Al Jazeera is working with Hamas.

Al Jazeera caused damage to Israel’s security and was involved in the October incident. 7 attacks where a lot of people were killed and angry fighting started against Israeli soldiers. “It’s time to get rid of Hamas in our country,” Netanyahu said on X, which used to be called Twitter.

He said he was going to start following the new law right away. “He said Al Jazeera won’t show news from Israel anymore. ”

Al Jazeera cannot be watched in some countries in the Middle East because their governments have stopped it.

Egypt stopped Al Jazeera from operating in their country in 2013. It started taking strong action after the military took control in 2013 and removed a government led by the Muslim Brotherhood group. Egypt thinks the Brotherhood is a bad group and said Qatar and Al Jazeera help them.

In Washington, a person from the State Department called Matthew Miller said the US may not always like what Al Jazeera reports, but still thinks their work is important.

“We help the independent news organizations all over the world,” he said. “We know about what’s happening in Gaza because there are reporters there, including ones from Al Jazeera, telling us what’s going on. ”

Israel has said it might close Al Jazeera before, but it hasn’t actually done it. Monday’s law did not close the station right away, but it allows officials to do it later after getting permission from legal and security officials. Any order will only be valid until July 31 or the end of the war in Gaza.

Israel’s Minister of Communications, Shlomo Karhi, said he plans to go ahead with the closure. He said Al Jazeera has been working as a tool for spreading biased information for Hamas, by promoting using weapons against Israel.

“He said it’s impossible for a media outlet, which has press credentials from the Government Press Office and offices in Israel, to act against us from within, especially during wartime. ”

His office announced that they want to stop the channel from being shown in Israel and stop it from working in the country. The rule will not affect the West Bank or Gaza.

Walid Al-Omari, who is in charge of the Al Jazeera office in the area, said on Monday night that they have not received any communication from the Israeli authorities. “But it’s obvious that they will make the decision in a few days,” he told The Associated Press.

However, penalizing the channel might be dangerous. Qatar has been helping to make peace between Israel and Hamas. It helped arrange and support a week-long break from fighting in November, and has been holding discussions on and off for weeks to try to arrange another break from fighting.

Israel may be trying to push Qatar to make Hamas agree to something by focusing on Al Jazeera. In the past, Netanyahu said Qatar is not doing enough. However, this could also make Qatar unhappy. Qatar is a rich country in the Gulf with a lot of oil and gas. It is one of the only countries that has power over Hamas.

During the war, press freedom groups have criticized Israel a lot. The Committee to Protect Journalists says that 90 Palestinian journalists and two Israeli journalists have died in the war. Israel has not allowed foreign journalists to go to Gaza on their own to report on the war. The army let a few journalists go into Gaza for short visits with strict control and protection from the military.

people with disabilities to live in dignity and equality. ” Shechter believes the law is unfair and does not treat people with disabilities fairly.

Ukraine attacks oil refinery and drone manufacturing in Russia

0

Ukrainian drones attacked a big oil refinery and a drone factory in Russia‘s Tatarstan province on Tuesday. This is the farthest strike into Russia by Kyiv since the war started over two years ago.

A recent attack happened near the cities of Yelabuga and Nizhnekamsk in Russia. 12 people were hurt in the attack, which took place about 745 miles east of Ukraine.

Lately, Ukrainian drones have been launching more frequent attacks on Russian refineries and oil terminals, in an effort to cause more damage on Russian land.

Ukrainian experts have been making their drones able to fly farther and carry more weapons, because Ukraine needs more powerful weapons and troops on the battlefield. Drones are a cheaper choice for Ukraine until they get more military help from the US.

Neither side can make a big impact on the 1,000-kilometer front line right now.

Security and intelligence officials from Ukraine said they attacked a place in Yelabuga, Tatarstan where drones are made. They used long-range drones produced in Ukraine. Tatarstan is well-known for having a lot of factories, and one factory near Yelabuga has made drones that explode, which are designed by people from Iran.

Ukrainian officials said that spies were part of an attack on the Nizhnekamsk oil refinery.

The officials talked to The Associated Press but didn’t want their names to be known because they weren’t allowed to talk to the public. It was unusual for officials in Kyiv to admit they were responsible for an attack on Russia, because they usually don’t talk about attacks on Russian soil. Sometimes they might mention them indirectly.

The Associated Press could not check if the claims were true.

Russia often uses Shahed drones to launch air attacks on Ukraine. They send a lot of them at once to try and overcome Ukraine’s air defenses.

Tatarstan officials said the attack didn’t stop factories from working, while Nizhnekamsk’s mayor said the attempt to attack the refinery was stopped by air defenses.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Kyiv is trying to distract people from their losses by trying to attack Russia, in order to show their supporters that they can still fight against Russia.

During a meeting with top military leaders, Shoigu said that Russian soldiers have taken control of over 400 square kilometers (about 155 square miles) since the beginning of the year.

Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov from the Kremlin said that the Russian army is doing things to make their defenses stronger against these attacks.

“The army is trying to make this danger smaller and eventually get rid of it completely,” he said during a phone call with journalists.

Ukraine has used drones to attack St. and nearby areas before. Petersburg is about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) north of the border. The facilities in Tatarstan, a province on the Volga River, seem to be the farthest target Ukraine has tried to attack.

Last year, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that his country made a weapon that can reach a target 700 kilometers away. It seems like he was talking about a drone attack on Russia.

Last year, Ukraine’s minister for digital transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, said the government wanted to create a high-tech army of drones. He said that their importance in the war will be clear by the end of this year. Last year, Ukraine taught over 10,000 new people how to fly drones.

Ukraine made dangerous sea drones that hit Russian navy ships in the Black Sea. The attacks that worked well made the Kremlin feel bad. On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to choose Adm. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that Alexander Moiseyev is the new leader of the navy.

Putin also chose Vice Admiral as a name. Sergei Pinchuk is now the leader of the navy’s Black Sea Fleet after the previous leader, Adm. , was let go.

DISPELLING DRUNK ILLUSIONS & REJECTING LUNGU’S RETURN

DISPELLING DRUNK ILLUSIONS & REJECTING LUNGU’S RETURN

BY CATHARINE MULAISHO

Responding to Christopher Zumani Zimba’s assertions regarding the supposed messianic status of Edgar Lungu and the necessity of his return to power, it is imperative to provide a counter-narrative rooted in reality, accountability, and a commitment to the well-being of the Zambian people.

  1. Misguided Comparisons:
Zumani’s comparison of Lungu to figures like Nelson Mandela and Donald Trump is flawed. Lungu’s tenure was marred by corruption and authoritarianism, hardly comparable to the legacies of true leaders.
  2. Failure of Leadership:
Lungu’s time in office was characterized by a failure to address systemic issues such as corruption and economic mismanagement. His return to power would only perpetuate this cycle of incompetence and self-interest.
  3. Betrayal of Trust:
Allowing Lungu to return to power would be a betrayal of the trust placed in the political leadership of Zambia. It is essential to prioritize the interests of the nation over the personal ambitions of individuals.
  4. Accountability and Transparency:
Lungu’s fight for a return to power is motivated by self-interest and a desire to protect his ill-gotten gains. Zambia cannot afford to be governed by leaders who prioritize personal enrichment over the well-being of the nation.
  5. Internal Strife within PF:
Before considering Lungu’s return, members of the PF must address the internal divisions and dysfunction within the party. Lungu’s leadership style has only exacerbated these issues, making him unfit to lead.
  6. Need for Change:
Zambia deserves leaders who are committed to genuine progress and development, not individuals who seek to maintain the status quo for their own benefit. Lungu’s return would only hinder the country’s ability to move forward.
  7. Rejecting Corruption and Selfishness:
Lungu’s tenure was marked by allegations of corruption and cronyism. Allowing him to return to power would send a message that corruption is acceptable, undermining efforts to combat this pervasive issue.
  8. Looking Forward:
It is time for Zambia to turn the page on the era of Lungu and embrace a new vision for the future. This requires leaders who are honest, transparent, and committed to serving the interests of all Zambians, not just a select few.
  9. Prioritizing the People:
Zambia’s leaders must prioritize the needs of the people above their own ambitions. Lungu’s return would only serve to further entrench the interests of the political elite at the expense of the wider population.
  10. Building a Better Future:
Zambia deserves leaders who are committed to building a brighter future for all citizens. Lungu’s track record demonstrates that he is not the right person to lead the country forward.
  11. Distorted Historical Analogies:
Comparing Lungu to figures like Lula de Silva and Nelson Mandela ignores the stark differences in their legacies and leadership styles. Lungu’s tenure was marked by democratic backsliding and human rights abuses, making him unfit for comparison to true statesmen.
  12. Flawed Logic:
The assertion that Lungu is the only viable candidate for 2026 overlooks the potential for new, visionary leadership to emerge within the political landscape of Zambia. Democracy thrives on competition and diversity of ideas, not the perpetuation of entrenched power structures.
  13. Misguided Loyalty:
Blind allegiance to Lungu within PF and UKA overlooks the fundamental principles of democracy and accountability. Leaders must earn the trust and support of the people through their actions, not through coercion or manipulation.
  14. Unfounded Comparisons:
Equating Lungu to iconic figures like Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu overlooks the complexities of their respective political contexts. Lungu’s tenure was marked by allegations of electoral fraud and human rights abuses, tarnishing his reputation both domestically and internationally.
  15. Disingenuous Representation:
Portraying Lungu as the epitome of political hope and freedom is disingenuous and ignores the realities of his time in office. His administration was characterized by a crackdown on dissent and erosion of democratic institutions, hardly the hallmarks of a freedom fighter.
  16. Reality Check:
Lungu’s political stature is not comparable to leaders like Nelson Mandela or Donald Trump, as his tenure was marred by corruption scandals and economic mismanagement. Elevating him to the status of a political icon undermines the credibility of Zambia’s democratic process.
  17. Assumption of Superiority:
Dismissing other potential candidates in favor of Lungu reflects a dangerous sense of entitlement and disregard for the democratic rights of the Zambian people. Leaders should be chosen based on merit and their ability to serve the interests of the nation, not on arbitrary notions of political stature.
  18. Need for Accountability:
Holding Lungu accountable for his actions and decisions during his time in office is essential for upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for the Zambian people. Allowing him to evade accountability sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the integrity of Zambia’s democratic institutions.
  19. Erosion of Trust:
Lungu’s failure to address allegations of corruption and human rights abuses during his tenure eroded public trust in his government and political leadership. Allowing him to return to power without being held accountable for these failures would only further erode trust in Zambia’s democratic process.
  20. Dangerous Precedent:
Allowing Lungu to return to power without addressing the underlying issues that led to his downfall sets a dangerous precedent for Zambia’s democracy. It sends a message that leaders can act with impunity and escape accountability for their actions.
  21. Upholding Democratic Values:
Zambia must uphold the principles of democracy and rule of law by holding its leaders accountable for their actions. Allowing Lungu to return to power without facing consequences for his failures undermines the credibility of Zambia’s democratic institutions and sets a dangerous precedent for the future.
  22. Protecting Zambia’s Future:
Lungu’s return to power would only serve to perpetuate the cycle of corruption and mismanagement that has plagued Zambia for far too long. It is essential to prioritize the interests of the Zambian people over the ambitions of individual politicians.
  23. Building a Better Tomorrow:
Zambia deserves leaders who are committed to building a brighter future for all citizens, not just a select few. Lungu’s return to power would only hinder progress and perpetuate the status quo of corruption and self-interest.
  24. Rejecting Self-Serving Agendas:
Lungu’s fight for a return to power is motivated by self-interest and a desire to protect his own interests, not the interests of the Zambian people. It is essential to reject self-serving agendas and prioritize the common good in order to build a more prosperous and equitable Zambia.
  25. Choosing a Path Forward:
Zambia stands at a crossroads, and it is essential to choose a path forward that prioritizes accountability, transparency, and the well-being of all citizens.

Lungu’s return to power would only lead to further division and instability, undermining the progress that Zambia has made towards building a more democratic and prosperous future.

In summary, the narrative presented by Zumani must be challenged and rejected in favor of a vision for Zambia that prioritizes accountability, transparency, and the well-being of all citizens.

Lungu’s return to power would only serve to perpetuate the cycle of corruption and mismanagement that has held Zambia back for far too long. It is time to choose a new path forward that embraces democratization values and puts the interests of the Zambian people first.

Zambia lucky to have me – Lungu

Zambia lucky to have me – Lungu

FORMER Zambian president Edgar Lungu says the country was lucky to have a leader whom it can go back to and seek advice.

Speaking at Liberty Life Assembly Church in Lusaka on Sunday at a book launch, Lungu in the company of United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) members said, there was no shame in seeking advice from experienced people to resolve matters.

Lungu was invited to grace the launch of the book: “Faith in a Changing Climate: The Negative impact of environmental degradation on Christian Practices and beliefs”.

“My message this morning… is that we should not be ashamed to ask those who have been before us for advice on matters they can fix,” Lungu said

“So in Zambia we are lucky we have some of us who have been president for 7 years and some who have been ministers, so ask us and we shall tell you.”

Lungu noted the challenges Zambia faced, including the current drought stating he foresaw the drought, when he was president, but that he was called vision-less instead.

Lungu praised the host Reverend Dr, Steven Sata for being a truthful witness of climate change and also a truthful witness to save lives of the people of Zambia.

“This book we are launching today, ‘faith in a changing climate’ testifies that we have a vision, it testifies that you are awake.

“You saw this way back, and you were writing your book quietly, when I was president I said climate change will come at one time and someone said it is lack of vision. Today we have indicated, you and me, that climate change is the problem,” said Lungu.

Meanwhile Lungu said he could not help being arrogant sometimes.

“You know I avoid being arrogant but sometimes it just comes inevitably. My message is that please ask your neighbour if your neighbour knows better don’t be ashamed of asking your friend on what they did to fix something,” he added

“I know I have offended some people. When I go home my wife will say ‘but why do you talk too much?’ but that’s my job to talk.”

SADC must find another regional head of state and govt to lead the regional diplomatic task on the DRC crisis as Mr Hichilema  is too conflicted – Fred M’membe

THE DRC CRISIS

The security and humanitarian conditions in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is worsening.

Even the United Nations have warned of the deteriorating situation as the rebels keep making gains with hundreds of thousands of civilians displaced from their homes. The head of the UN’s DRC peacekeeping mission MONUSCO, Bintou Keita, was quoted reporting to the UN Security Council last week that the worsening security situation and a humanitarian crisis is nearing catastrophic levels.

“More than 7.1 million people have been displaced in the country. That is 800,000 people more since my last briefing three months ago,” Keita stated. She further told the UN on Wednesday last week that the armed group [M23] was making significant advances and expanding its territory to unprecedented levels.

On March 23, 2024, Southern African Development Community (SADC) leaders reiterated their commitment to providing both diplomatic and military support to find lasting solutions to the conflicts in the DRC and Mozambique. The summit received updates on the peace and security situation in the two troubled spots of the region, reaffirming the regional bloc’s support to the two governments towards attaining lasting peace, stability, and security.

In a communiqué released after an extraordinary SADC double troika summit held in Lusaka, the SADC heads of state and government also pledged to intensify public diplomacy on the role and successes of SADC peace support missions in the two countries to avoid negative narratives that may compromise the success of the missions.

In December 2023, we implored SADC to help establish the will of the people in the last DRC elections. This was after it became apparent that the incumbent had lost the elections, and there were desperate, reckless and restless attempts by the governing party, working in cohorts with the electoral body (CENI) to subvert the will of the people and deny the Congolese people their leader of choice.

By the way, the DRC elections were marred with massive and evident electoral fraud such as polling stations opening late and some not opening at all on voting day; malfunctioning electronic voting systems; police confiscating electronic voting machines in certain polling stations; violence; ruling party candidates and supporters being found with electronic voting machines and ballots in their residences, and so on and so forth.

We urged SADC to urgently intervene and avoid any civil unrest or possibilities of plunging the entire nation into chaos. We reiterated that it was in the best interest of SADC to proactively assist the DRC before the situation degenerated into chaos and that if the DRC imploded, it was the region that would suffer the consequences of the humanitarian crisis that will unfold.

Clearly, what we dreaded and warned against is what is currently happening in the DRC. There is civil unrest and instability in the Eastern DRC. After stealing the vote, the ruling elite is in panic and stranded, and now relying on regional diplomatic and military involvements. They thought they were clever by plotting a sham election, but here we are, the chickens have come home to roost. They have the power and control they so much desired to the extent of even maiming and killing their own people, but they have no genuine mandate of the Congolese people.

Indeed, SADC should intervene and help the Congolese people out of this insecurity and humanitarian crisis but the DRC ruling elite must also be made aware that they caused this upon themselves by fraudulently overturning the people’s victory. Had the last DRC elections been peaceful, free, and fair, this implosion – security and humanitarian crisis – in Eastern DRC would not have reached such levels. There would be greater unity in the country. Today, it’s proving very difficult to get the support of those who were mistreated and robbed of victory in the fraudulent elections.

SADC should also make DRC authorities realise that to achieve peace, security, and stability, they need to sincerely engage all stakeholders – the church, political parties, civil society, and many others. Posturing and acting all-powerful amidst a crisis of this nature will only worsen the situation. SADC will not be able to achieve a purely military victory in DRC. A political solution, settlement is needed. Magnanimity, humility, and maturity is the only guaranteed way to solve these problems.

Further, SADC must endeavour to find another regional head of state and government to lead the regional diplomatic task on the DRC crisis as Mr Hakainde Hichilema – the current Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation – is too conflicted. Mr Hichilema will not be able to be neutral in this significant diplomatic process of attaining lasting peace, stability, and security in the DRC.

However, we remain confident that a lasting solution will be found to prevent the security and humanitarian crisis from reaching tragic levels.

Whoever is crying just let them cry – Kabuswe

By Rhoda Nthara

WE have followed the law, Mopani will continue running, assures mines minister Paul Kabuswe.

“Those that are peddling lies let them continue. Whoever is crying just let them cry at the end of the day they will get tired and stop crying,” he said in response to Kantanshi

PF member of parliament Anthony Mumba’s question over Mopani shares transfer.

“Thank you once again Madam Speaker and thank you very much honourable minister and congratulations for job well done. For us we will be praising where it is due and we don’t care what we will be called because it’s for the people of Zambia. It’s not for me or my children. It’s for the people out there,” said Mumba in a question of clarification in the House on Thursday following Kabuswe’s ministerial statement on IRH acquisition of 51 per cent shares in Mopani Copper Mines. “Now honourable minister this message you have sent to the people out there is very encouraging. But it’s also under threat because you have been accused that you have not followed the Constitution. You have been accused of breaching the Constitution and that this transaction will be reversed. Now for those that are listening right now who you’ve assured will not be retrenched in this very difficult economic time and for me as patron of Mighty Mufulira Wanderers we have assured that

Mighty will be funded and many other sporting disciplines in our district. What is the real position in terms of this accusation that the government has not followed the Constitution or indeed there is a breach that government has carried out? Because this does not only threaten the Zambian people who are looking forward to doing business and working but also the investor and the confidence we are putting at risk?”

In response, Kabuswe said the new dawn government did not break the law.

“Thank you very much honourable member and thank you for the accolade you have given to the government of President Hakainde Hichilema over this deal. Madam Speaker, government is not run by just one person. Government has several wings and because our government is so methodical and well organised, when we were doing these transactions we had teams in place. Those who were looking at legal due diligence, the technical due diligence [and] the financial due diligence around this deal to make sure that as we make a decision we do not break the law,” said Kabuswe. “We have the chief legal advisor of government who is the Attorney General and gave his opinion and yes including the environment.

Madam Speaker there’s no sale that has taken place. I know they are referring to article 210, I remember that I always sign consents of transfers of shares and I haven’t done that because there’s no sale. So not to worry Zambians, we have followed the law. You are very safe. Mopani will continue running. Those that are peddling lies let them continue.

Whoever is crying just let them cry at the end of the day they will get tired and stop crying. That’s why they have been lying that Mopani has been sold for $130 million. Nothing can be further from the truth including lying that President Hakainde Hichilema has sold Mopani to himself. If you have nothing to say just say thank you and sit down. Just keep quiet because we told you that we would resolve these matters and we have resolved them. And KCM will be resolved.”

CHISAMBA IS MAIZE SUFFICIENT AND CLAIMS BY ECONOMIC FREEDOM FIGHTERS (EFF) LEADER KASONDE MWENDA UNTRUE AND DANGEROUS

CHISAMBA IS MAIZE SUFFICIENT AND CLAIMS BY ECONOMIC FREEDOM FIGHTERS (EFF) LEADER KASONDE MWENDA UNTRUE AND DANGEROUS

DATE: 1st APRIL 2024

THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) wishes to refute allegations made by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Leader Mr. Kasonde Mwenda on Friday, 29th March 2024 where he claimed that the Agency (FRA) had run out of maize in Chisamba District and that “hunger was deepening in the area”. The Agency wishes to state that Chisamba District is food secure and that there is still plenty of maize in the area more than enough for vulnerable households.

The Agency wishes to remind the public that it is a strategic government institution mandated to provide a strategic service to all Zambians regardless of race, ethnic, political and religious affiliation. Therefore, the Agency cannot neglect any person in its provision of services. In this regard, the Agency wishes to strongly refute claims by the EFF Leader, as they are not only false, but also irresponsible and dangerous.

The Agency wishes to advise members of the public, especially those aspiring for political office such as Mr. Mwenda to be responsible and factual when commenting on emotive and sensitive matters such as food security as reckless statements have a potential to cause civil unrest. Moreover, in as much as Mr. Kasonde would want to prove his relevance in politics, he should not lose his sense of responsibility when making comments in public. In this regard, the Agency wishes to urge the public to ignore his sentiments, as they are all lies. If it is true that the Agency has run out of maize, how is it possible that Zambia Correctional Service and Zambia National Service are currently collecting maize for milling into affordable mealie meal that is being offloaded daily on the local market countrywide? How is it also possible that the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit is currently collecting maize from FRA and distributing to vulnerable families in rural areas? In addition, the Agency as was announced recently, has re-strategised, intensified the Community Sales programme and is currently conducting the programme in 84 districts. Maize is also being released to Ministry of Education for the Home Grown School Feeding Programme, to boarding schools and hospitals just to mention but a few. All these programmes would have stopped if there was no maize.

Further, the Agency wishes to inform the public that the country is approaching the harvest period, and despite the drought, some households will be able to retain some quantities of crops for household food security. The Agency will also strategise to buy designated crops in locations that may have surplus stocks for redistribution to drought affected areas. Further, the public should be aware that on mopping up local maize stocks, the Agency contracted commercial farmers who have since started delivering the early maize crop. Government has also already indicated proactive response mechanisms to address the current situation, some of which include importation of maize to ensure the country continues to be food secure.

In conclusion, the Agency wishes to state that Chisamba District is food secure and currently has a total of 78,732 by 50 kilogramme bags of maize while Central Province has a total of 413,297 by 50 kilogramme bags all being stored in FRA storage facilities. Hichilema and the UPND government: Zambia’s worst and most costly mistake, ever- Azwell Banda

Hichilema and the UPND government: Zambia’s worst and most costly mistake, ever

By Azwell Banda(The Mast)

With Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND government, Zambia has entered the period in which lies are the truth, unfulfilled promises are nothing, mass hunger, disease epidemics, unemployment and poverty are counted as economic growth, worsening and deepening our debt enslavement is celebrated as victory at “debt restructuring”, mediocrity in government is celebrated as “working hard”, constitutional vandalism and criminality by government win accolades for being “democratic”, millions of Zambians who cannot afford the price of a single meal are advised by government to buy solar panels and so on.

To clown it all, the mouth piece of White supremacist capital in South Africa, Business Day, names Hakainde Hichilema as of course among the “top best performing African leaders”. His Minister of Finance, Situmbeko Musokotwane, has also similarly been honoured, abroad. And yet more than 6,000,000 Zambians face acute hunger because liberalising trade in maize disappeared two years’ worth of maize in our strategic food reserves, via exports. Now Zambia is poised to import back possibly some of its own maize.

It is the almost revolutionary abandonment of our national sovereignty to Western powers, international financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, as well as Western donors, using our mountain of debt, that Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND government have excelled, hence all the praise and accolades showered upon them, by the West. Make no mistake about this: a revolution is well under way in Zambia today, to reverse everything Zambia has stood for and achieved in its 60 years of independence, and become truly a fully-fledged neo-colony of the West.

Hakainde Hichilema and his Minister of Finance, and a few very close friends and business associates of theirs, and their White consultants, fully understand and know what they are doing to Zambia: irrevocably lock Zambia into the West, become the main rent, commissions, bribes and “equity partners” of Western and other global financial flows, into Zambia. To achieve this, the route they have chosen to “restructure” our debt is absolutely necessary and essential: the conditionalities include Zambia ceding its economic, financial, social and political sovereignty to the West, through the supervision of the IMF and the World bank, of course.

It does not matter that the “debt restructuring conditionalities” explode the prices of food, diesel, petrol, paraffin, transport, electricity, and many other vital domestic and economic ingredients thereby fatally wounding the main economic sector in Zambia – the informal economy. Hichilema and his friends are in a hurry to secure the full “debt restructuring process” and begin to see new capital flows into Zambia again, from which they are poised to feed ravenously.

It is none of their business the horrible painful suffering on the majority of Zambians their chosen route to restructure our debt has unleashed. To assuage their none existent guilty consciences, they have quickly shifted gear: in opposition, they promised everything to the majority of struggling, hungry, unemployed poor Zambians. Now they are preaching, using the Bible of White Racism against Africans, that Zambians are lazy, have wrong mindsets, drink too much, have too many babies, are incapable of exploiting the vast economic opportunities all around us, are too dependent on free things and government handouts and so on. Meanwhile they themselves are using government to become super rich.

Hakainde Hichilema and most of his educated colleagues in the UPND government know and understand that the global economic system is inherently unequal and exploitative, with wealthy capitalist nations dominating and exploiting poorer countries for their own benefit. Together with the presidents of Kenya and Ghana, Hichilema has published a statement saying exactly just this, in so many words, in The Economist. And yet all three of them are busy burying their countries deeper into the very system they know cannot resolve Africa’s development challenges. Why? These African elites in and out of government mint millions from selling Africa cheaply. Hichilema knows very well that the current global financial architecture compels, nay, actually forces, poor countries to borrow money from wealthy nations and international financial institutions to meet their development needs, in ways which create impossible-to- get-out cycles of debt dependency. Which is exactly the kind of enslaving “debt restructuring” Hichilema and his friends have, without parliamentary oversight, imposed on Zambia.

I maintain, just as other Zambians have done, that with the massive electoral victory – a protest vote by the hungry, unemployed and poor rural Zambians – Hakainde and the UPND got in the 2021 August elections, Hakainde and his friends in the UPND were given a mandate, among other things, to aggressively renegotiate our debt burden in order to reduce the already very high suffering and pain many Zambians were experiencing, and not to unleash upon them more torturous austerity, and sink us into deeper indebtedness.

There were many options for Hichilema and his friends including declaring some of the debt “odious” and, the pandemic was an act of God therefore making it impossible for some of the repayments to happen. More importantly, Hichilema and his friends needed to trust Zambia and Zambians, and route all major efforts to restructure our national debt by also simultaneously aggressively “nationalising” the Zambian economy: Zambian ownership of the major means of producing wealth is the only viable route to get Zambia out of its deep indebtedness and underdevelopment. The departing Patriotic Front government had already laid some foundations for this, in the mining sector.

We all know, no matter how well this is concealed in the fake rhetoric of “home grown” nonsense, the IMF and World Bank loans, like all capitalist and imperialist bank loans, always come with conditions attached, such as implementing neoliberal economic policies. These policies prioritise free market principles, privatisation, and deregulation, which often exacerbate hunger, unemployment, poverty and inequality in borrowing countries. The past two and half years of the UPND only term of office have firmly confirmed these dreadful facts.

All the talk about ramping up copper production and other minerals for export, largely by foreign mining companies are part of the debt restructuring conditionalities to facilitate resource extraction from Zambia by Western and their allied corporations, further enriching the West while exploiting our natural resources. We are witnesses to constitutional vandalism as Zambia loses shares and ownership, in mines, without parliamentary oversight. This is broad day light robbery, to facilitate sustaining us in our indebtedness, especially to the West.

The bulk of our debt, about 70 per cent, is held by Western institutions. I was not surprised that the British High Commissioner to Zambia was quick to congratulate the Zambian government and Hichilema over the announced deal with bondholders. Our debt is a mechanism through which our erstwhile racist former colonial master, Britain, continues to exert control over us, maintaining a ruthless neo-colonial relationship that benefits the West and Britain itself, at our expense.

If we are the acclaimed “democracy” that we have become because the UPND is government, why is our parliament nowhere near discussions on the entire debt restructuring, repayments, including interest payments, new durations for maturity, and so on? Why is parliament, like all of us ordinary citizens, fed only “deals” and “agreements”? Why is our future as a people, as a country, not being debated by our “representatives” in parliament? The IMF itself has said Zambia has not protected its national interests as well as it should have done, during the debt restructuring processes. Since when did the IMF become our “representative” in the debt restructuring processes?

Zambia will soon start paying the debt it has defaulted on. Why is everything so opaque that not a single member of parliament can easily explain what the full implication of all this are, to the entire country? Are we not an “open liberal democracy” in which our government is fully accountable to its people, who are the sovereign authority, through parliament? We cannot burden our future generations with debts we acquire now, default, and balloon the payments. A single person, the President, should never in any country have so much power as our President.

Many Zambians erroneously thought that Hakainde Hichilema’s experience in “business” would mean that he could negotiate a better debt restructuring deal, better deals with foreign money in mining, and so on. We are now schooled differently. Both in the mines and over the debt restructuring processes we have confirmation that Zambia is being sold out very cheaply, just to conclude the deals and enable inflows of new money into Zambia. The IMF itself, China, France and South Africa rejected the first “deal” with bondholders for failing to meet the requirement for “comparability” with official creditors. There is no proof that Zambia has again not been fleeced, this time round. Soon we shall learn the full impact of the “debt restructuring”. What is clear though, is that without full parliament approval and open negotiations, Zambia has been conned once again. There is a tiny minority of Zambians who have the capacity to benefit from the inflows of money which may now start to trickle in. The majority, however, must now brace themselves for even tougher times, as debt payments fall due, and start.

Hakainde Hichilema and his friends in the UPND and foreign advisers are waging open economic warfare on the majority of Zambians, for their own personal benefits. They are the worst and most costly dangerous mistake voters have ever made, in Zambia.

PF and UKA must not betray their only Nelson Mandela & Donald Trump for 2026 in ECL: Why miss the winning penalty when there is no a goalkeeper?

PF and UKA must not betray their only Nelson Mandela & Donald Trump for 2026 in ECL: Why miss the winning penalty when there is no a goalkeeper?

PRAY FOR OUR CURRENT NATIONAL LEADERS THEY ARE TELLING TOO MANY LIES – NSONEKA LOBBY’S CHURCH

PRAY FOR OUR CURRENT NATIONAL LEADERS THEY ARE TELLING TOO MANY LIES – NSONEKA LOBBY’S CHURCH.

Katuba Isumpuke Foundation Chairperson Isaac Mwendela Nsoneka alias Katuba – 001 has petitioned the church and its leaders to come together and pray for National Leaders who are in the habit of telling lies to citizens.

Speaking in Katuba on Sunday morning, when he attended Easter Sunday Mass at St Bakita Catholic Church in Katuba Ward Mr. Nsoneka says he is appalled by the high unbearably high cost of lying currently confronting the people of Zambia.

“Our church elders and pastors, please pray for our national leaders, this is the job you must take seriously because there is a new tendency of lying unnecessarily in the country. This tendency must come to an end if we are to develop this our country. These leaders we have today say one thing and the opposite thing happens” he said.

“For this country to develop, we need sincere leaders who will speak the truth to their own people. At times being a human being you can say one thing and fail to fulfill, but instead of adding more lies, come back to the people and apologize for lying and ask for more time” he said.

And Mr. Nsoneka retaliated the need for all churches to combine forces and pray hard for things to change in the country.

As the church nodded in agreance, Mr Nsoneka indicated that things have become worse in the country as hunger is extremely unbearable for citizens.

“There is untold hunger in the country, this is one of the worst hunger situations because unlike the others before it, this one is coming with a bonus of a lying leadership” Mr Nsoneka said.

Nsoneka further said that the current economic situation should be used as an opportunity for all Zambians to embrace each other in truth not lies.

He says the people of Katuba and Zambia are at an even greater risk of extinction from Hunger and the high cost living when those in top leadership prioritize lies over confronting the true nature of the country’s distressful situation.

The moment those in Government keep on lying and unceremoniously pushing those who call them out for telling lies the worse the situation gets ” he said.

Zimbabwe’s structured currency launch on Friday

IN a bid to address currency volatility and exchange rate-driven inflation badly battering the economy amid arbitrage, the Zimbabwean government will next week launch a “structured currency” which the market has been waiting for to pick the new macroeconomic trajectory.

Zimbabwe, buffeted by economic turmoil for over two decades now, has the highest inflation and one of the lowest valued currency units in the world.

Well-informed sources told The NewsHawks that outgoing Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor John Mangudya – officially replaced by his successor John Mushayavanhu yesterday – will launch the new currency after Easter holidays at the end of the week – almost certainly on Friday.

Mangudya will launch the currency with Mushayavanhu playing a prominent role in the process as the incoming governor tasked to defend that new unit, while fighting inflation.

The RBZ, banker and advisor to government, is responsible for formulation and implementation of monetary policy to ensure low and stable inflation levels, while protecting the value of the currency.

A source said: “The new currency will be launched at the end of the week after the Easter holidays – on Friday. It was supposed to have been launched much earlier in the year when the monetary policy statement was due in January or February, but it was delayed. Then 28 March was set as the new date, but there were still certain things that were not yet in place. So next week is the new date. Its value will be determined by the value of the ZiG, an RBZ gold-backed token.

“The official appointment and the role of Mushayavanhu was also an issue. Prior to that there were issues of gold and United States dollar reserves accumulation which were supposed to be in place before its announcement. One of the functions of the RBZ is management of the country’s gold and foreign exchange assets. This was a key process is coming up with the structured currency.”

Zimbabwe is battling the double whammy of currency volatility and inflation. Currency volatility occurs when there are rapid changes to the exchange rate of a currency in a short period of time.

Political and economic conditions have a considerable bearing on the exchange rate, thus its fluctuations. Inflation, both cost-pull and demand-pull, and foreign currency market operations also have an impact on the exchange rate.

This has been the case with the increasingly worthless Zimbabwean dollar now trading between US$1:ZW$25000 and US$1:ZW$30000. Sources said government has for a while been building some reserves to provide an anchor and to defend the currency which will inevitably plunge to a new death spiral unless there is a reserves war chest to support it.

Another source said: “Authorities have been buying gold since 2022 and they have also been building some US dollar reserves through the export retention scheme. So they are ready for the new currency launch, but the real question is how long will the honeymoon last. Will it hold without government resolving the broader political and economic crisis? When the Zimbabwean dollar was brought back in 2019 after a decade of decimation and demonetisation, it did not last long in a firm footing because it was not well-grounded.

No sooner had the Zimdollar been brought back as legal tender in 2019 than it started losing value even though authorities had insisted the exchange rate would hover around US$1:ZW$1 for a long time.”

Around that time, President Emmerson Mnangagwa even superficially claimed the bond note, which represented the Zimdollar in the market since 2016, was the strongest currency in the region.

However, it took only five years to see that the Zimdollar was a liability as a currency. At the moment, the Zimdollar is on yet another calamitous plunge.

Contacted for comment, Mangudya said the delay in delivering the monetary policy statement was necessitated by the need to finalise arrangements to ensure that the structured currency is well-supported to sustain exchange rate and price stability.

Exchange rate volatility has of late been the biggest driver of sharp price increases and inflation which is now officially at 55.3% for March. Annual inflation quickened to 55.3% in March from 47.6% in February, the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency said on Wednesday. However, independent

American economist Professor Steve Hanke says Zimbabwe has the highest inflation in the world at 1 521%.

Mangudya said: “The idea behind the structured currency is to ensure exchange rate and price stability as the President has already explained. The Minister of Finance has also partly explained that the new currency will allow establishment of a quasi-Currency Board to help ensuring stability. The new currency will be backed by precious metals such gold and foreign currency.”

The International Monetary Fund says a currency board combines three elements: an exchange rate that is fixed to an “anchor currency,” automatic convertibility (that is, the right to exchange domestic currency at this fixed rate whenever desired), and a long-term commitment to the system, which is often set out directly in the central bank law.

The main reason for countries to contemplate a currency board is to pursue a visible anti-inflationary policy. Zimbabwe will not have a full currency board, but a framework of that quasi-structure.

A currency board system can be credible only if the central bank holds sufficient official foreign exchange reserves to at least cover the entire narrow money supply. In this way, financial markets and the public at large can be assured that every domestic currency bill is backed by an equivalent amount of foreign currency in the official coffers.

A Treasury source said mobilisation of gold to support the new currency began in October 2022 when government came up with a policy of 50% royalties on precious metals to be paid in kind to the RBZ.

That became the basis of building reserves to anchor the structured currency, which will be similar to the gold-backed digital tokens named ZiG.

“The objective is to restore value, trust and confidence in the currency. Some of the main characteristics of money include measure and store of value, as well as acceptability. The structured currency has to have those basic characteristics.

Apart from gold, foreign currency has been mobilised to back the currency through the 25% forex liquidation policy on export proceeds,” the source said.

Zimbabwe’s economy which plateaued and stabilised in crisis in recent years due to extended periods of mismanagement, incompetence, policy inconsistencies, leadership failures, as well as poor governance and corruption, has over the past years experienced cycles of currency volatility which have prompted authorities to go back to the drawing board to structure a new currency.

Economic commentators classify a structured currency as a form of monetary system designed to enhance stability and manage inflationary pressures. Unlike fiat currencies which rely on government regulation and central bank policies, a structured currency takes the form of both fiat and commodity-backed currencies.

“Mobilising gold reserves has been on the central bank’s top agenda over the past few years. The digital currency will not replace the multi-currency system which is mainly dominated by the US dollar,” a Finance ministry official close to the arrangement told The NewsHawks.

“While many thought the 25% retention on export earnings was financing public spending, authorities took a deliberate decision to ensure that these proceeds together with the gold reserves would anchor the structured currency which will be launched next week.

“The launch has inadvertently led to delays in presenting the monetary policy statement by Mangudya who will deliver it with Mushayavanhu, the new implementing authority.”

Mangudya and his predecessors have traditionally presented the monetary policy either at the end of January or in February, but the statement will now come with the launch of the structured currency next week.

After 10 years at the helm, Mangudya will end his two terms at the end of April before going on vacation to allow Mushayavanhu to settle in comfortably and later joining the Mutapa Investment Fund as chief executive.

In a recent interview with a local media outlet, Mangudya explained the situation.

“We are expecting monetary policy anytime soon. Currently, we are finalising measures to roll out what the President said in terms of the structured currency. This is so that we can have guaranteed price stability and stability of the exchange rate,” he said.

“So the delay in announcing the monetary policy statement is because we are working on a structured currency that is well-supported.”

Last July, Zimbabwe’s central bank introduced gold coins as an alternative store of value to the US dollar in the economy. In trying to complement the physical gold coins, the RBZ introduced the gold-backed digital tokens known as ZiG in May 2023.

The introduction of the gold-backed digital tokens came at a time when government was implementing a raft of measures to curtail inflation in the economy in order to rescue the collapsing local currency from being rejected by the market.

With effect from 5 October 2023, ZiG was announced as one of the means of payment for domestic transactions. The digital gold-backed tokens have been characterised by limited uptake as reflected by the value of gold purchased.

The structured currency, sources added, is meant to avoid looming hyperinflation and its ravages similar to the 2008 situation.

“The value of the structured currency will be determined by the value of the ZiG. After being introduced to the market, they will trade at around 1:1 against the greenback,” the source said.

“Once launched, banks will require up to a week or so to reconfigure their systems, rebase the balances in local currency, come up with opening foreign exchange rates and how it will used.

“When the structured currency comes, it will account for about 20% of transactions which essentially means it will occupy the space of bond notes in terms of market liquidity and transactions.”

Last month, Mnangagwa said authorities were looking to introduce a “structured currency”, without explaining how that would work.

“Prudent fiscal and monetary policies and promotion of a conducive environment remain critically important for the stability and growth of our economy,” he said.

“Accordingly, the fiscal and monetary authorities are implementing a raft of policy measures to arrest price increases, stabilise foreign exchange rate, maintain value for our currency and ultimately encourage savings. We shall soon be announcing the production of our structured currency.”

After Mnangagwa’s remarks, Finance minister Mthuli Ncube said the structured currency is part of monetary reforms aimed at defending the value of the domestic currency.

“What the president announced is what we may call necessary forward guidance, which means that the leader is announcing that Zimbabwe is on a path to further reforms on its currency and monetary system, which is a good thing for getting everyone geared up to realise that this is an important issue,” Ncube told the media during the Economic Commission for Africa press conference held in Victoria Falls last month.

“This is a quest for currency stability, but I’m still pleased that so far Zimbabwe has shown very strong growth.”

The Zimbabwean dollar was first introduced in 1980, following the country’s independence from British colonial rule. At the time of its introduction, the Zimbabwean dollar was equivalent to one British pound, stronger than the US dollar.

Throughout its turbulent history, the Zimbabwean dollar suffered from significant exchange rate instability and high inflation. After holding its own for about 17 years, the local currency plunged into the depths of depreciation in 1997 after Zimbabwe printed money to finance the Congo War and pay war veterans large outlays.

The land reform programme of 2000 ruined commercial agriculture and the economic mainstay, leaving the economy and currency in tatters amid surging inflation. Amid an economic meltdown, the Zimdollar was redenominated three times in 2006, 2008 and 2009), with denominations of up to ZW$100 trillion banknotes issued.

The RBZ issued various types of banknotes amid economic turmoil and hyperinflation, including the bearer cheques and special agrocheques (“agro” being short for agricultural) that circulated between 15 September 2003 and 31 December 2008: Use of the Zimbabwean dollar as an official currency was effectively abandoned on 12 April 2009.

It was officially demonetised in 2015, with outstanding accounts able to be reimbursed until 30 April 2016. In late 2016, government introduced a batch of bond notes as a form of alternative currency.

On 24 June 2019, the RBZ abolished the multiple-currency system and replaced it with a new form of Zimdollar (RTGS system), which was the only official currency in the country between June 2019 and March 2020, after which multiple foreign currencies were allowed again.

Government has extended the use of the multi-currency system to 2030 from the previous 2025 cut-off date. Through Statutory Instrument (SI) 218 of 2023, the US dollar will remain legal tender till 2030, working alongside with the structured currency which is coming on Friday next week.

Mnangagwa power retention scheme raises dust

0

Manoeuvres by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to amend the constitution have raised concern that the 82-year-old ruler wants to reverse progressive electoral reforms and return the country to the dark days of the Robert Mugabe era.

The government recently signalled that it will propose constitutional amendments that will significantly alter Zimbabwe’s electoral processes.

One of the proposed major changes would be to transfer key responsibilities such as voter registration from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to the Registrar-General’s office.

The changes will also remove the responsibility for the delimitation of electoral boundaries from Zec and reintroduce a delimitation commission.

Observers such as the Zimbabwe Election Suppport Network (Zesn) say “removing such integral processes from Zec isboth retrogressive and a reversal of past progressive electoral reforms”.

“This further compromises the independence of Zec by allowing separate government bodies to perform roles directly linked to the commission’s duties,” Zesn said.

“This jeopardises the commission’s stewardship of elections, and ultimately erodes citizens’ confidence and trust in electoral processes.”

Political analysts and election watchdogs said it was concerning that the government has chosen to ignore August 2023 recommendations by election observer missions to reforming Zec to enhance transparency and independence in its handling of electoral processes.

Multiple election observer missions expressed deep concern and stated that the country’s electoral processes did not meet regional and international standards for credibility.

The Southern African Development Community (Sadc) and other international electoral observation missions cited problems with Zec on matters to do with transparency, independence, fairness, and credibility at all stages of the electoral process.

Some of the drawbacks cited by observer missions include lack of transparency in running and unveiling the voters’ roll to all stakeholders, skewed electoral boundary numbers and well as the mishandling of ballot papers in Bulawayo and Harare.

Voting was extended in the August 2023 elections after Zec failed to print and deliver ballot papers in time in what the opposition said was systematic rigging to deny its urban voters a chance to cast their votes.

The United States noted systemic bias against political opposition during the pre-election period amid reports from civil society groups that Zec officials pressured election observers to sign altered polling station result forms.

On August 23, police arrested staff from respected civil society organisations engaged in lawful election observation.

Observers said the arrests frustrated efforts to independently verify Zec’s official results, a fundamental component of democratic processes in the region and around the world.

Observer missions said the Zec should follow strict provisions of the constitution on transparency, access to information and unveil the voters register as prescribed in the Electoral Act in order to improve perceptions among the public, political parties and candidates.

Zanu-PF immediately objected to concerns raised by observer missions before singling out the Sadc preliminary report and its chairperson Nevers Mumba of Zambia, noting that no nation should meddle in another country’s political affairs.

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has refused to accept election results announced by Zec after accusing the electoral body of rigging.

Returning to the pre-2009 electoral framework that was presided over by the Registrar General’s office will further erode trust in Zimbabwean elections, Zesn says.

Former registrar general Tobaiwa Mudede was often accused of rigging polls in favour of Zanu-PF through massive voter registration fraud.

According to documentary evidence presented by the then MDC opposition led by the late Morgan Tsvangirai urban constituency voters’ rolls were being stuffed with mysterious names and ghost voters.

Mudede was accused of compiling two separate voters’ rolls in an attempt to disenfranchise suspected Zanu-PF rivals in both urban and rural areas.

In some cases, steep rises were recorded in certain constituencies, raising suspicion that the rolls were being tampered with.

Before presidential elections in 2002, Mudede told a meeting at the International School in Harare that, “he could imagine no circumstances in which he would declare anyone other than Mugabe the winner.”

In 2002, a report by the South African Institute for Race Relations revealed there were 42 000 people over the age of 100 on the voters’ roll and that this was an “impossible” number.

Some of the people on the voters’ roll appeared to be 120 years old.

Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya said the proposed changes must be out rightly rejected as they take Zimbabwe back to the dark days under Mudede.

“Basically the constitution got it right that Zec must manage the entire electoral value chain and taking us back to the Tobaiwa Mudede era is not only a travesty of electoral justice,” Ngwenya said.

“It is also an act fraught with criminal intention, plagued with conflict of interest.

“The central registry manages birth, death and ID information. If any institution can pervert the voters’ roll, it’s them.”

Ngwenya added: “All progressive political parties and enlightened civic groups must fight this diabolic move to the death.”

Election Resource Centre legal and advocacy officer, Takunda Tsunga, said the proposed amendments ignore challenges that have dogged the country’s elections.

“Voter registration is not the issue; it’s the symptom of a greater problem being the credibility of elections,” Tsunga said.

“Voter registration rates are low because centres are not accessible and people do not see elections as a credible platform to exercise their democratic rights.

“The issues. which the government seeks to address, namely, voter registration, can be addressed by administrative changes and not constitutional changes by simply coordinating efforts between the departments and not taking away the function from Zec.”

Tsunga said voter registration being conducted by Zec was best practice.

“The proposed amendments also ignore numerous recommendations made by observer missions such as Sadc and the European Union following the 2023 harmonised elections, which include strengthening the independence of Zec.

“The proposed amendments do the opposite of that.” Political analysts also expressed fears over the potential impact on transparency and independence of Zec in handling electoral processes.

Another political analyst Vivid Gwede said the alterations could significantly undermine transparency in the voter registration process and the handling of the voters’ roll.

“The proposed change will undercut transparency in the voter registration process and handling of the voters’ roll,” Gwede said.

“It is taking away the process from an independent commission to appointees of the incumbent government in the civil service.

“For instance, the appointment process of Zec is specifically meant to be open and transparent. The changes will reverse progress in electoral management.”

Romeo Chasara, a political analyst said the proposed changes could erode public trust in electoral processes. “The proposed changes risk politicising the appointment process of electoral institutions, which could also undermine their independence and impartiality,” Chasara said.

“Any measures that compromise transparency and fairness in the electoral process could have far-reaching consequences for the credibility of future elections and the overall democratic stability of the country.”

Efforts to get a comment from Information ministry permanent secretary Nick Mangwana were fruitless as his number went unanswered.

Zanu-PF director of information Farai Marapira refused to comment on the matter and referred The Standard to Mangwana.

Some critics have said that the proposed changes are part of a wider plot by Mnangagwa to extend his rule if he manages to railroad changes to the constitution on presidential term limits.

Under the country’s laws, Mnangagwa is serving his second and last term.

However, indications are that Mnangagwa has started pushing for a third term through his loyalists.

Zanu-PF enjoys a two third majority to make legislation, but any idea of a third term needs a national referendum.

With Mnangagwa facing charges of running down the economy and driving millions into poverty, sources say the president feared he may not get support through a referendum.

Sources there are attempts to by-pass the referendum through some changes to the law that do not need a national plebiscite.

In 2021, Zanu-PF used its parliamentary majority to approve legislation removing a clause in the constitution on electing vice presidents, a move which critics said was intended by Mnangagwa to concentrate power in the presidency.

Parliament also extended the tenure of senior judges, who are appointed by the president in consultation with the judicial service commission, instead of being subjected to public interviews as was the case.

In 2013, Zimbabweans voted for a new constitution including a clause stipulating that the vice-president should be elected together with the president.

The clause was, however, suspended for 10 years in a compromise between the ruling party and the opposition.

“The constitution has already been amended twice, in the short span of ten years, with Amendment No. 2 alone introducing 23 changes,” Zesn said.

“Zesn believes there should be restraint in continually or heavily altering the constitution, stability and continuity of Zec in executing the 2013 roles is of great necessity.”

SALE OF MOPANI SHARES, ILLEGAL – Brian Hapunda

SALE OF MOPANI SHARES, ILLEGAL –  SP

Lusaka, Monday (April 1, 2024)

Socialist Party (SP) Director Media Brian Hapunda says the sale of 51% shares in Mopani Copper Mines to IRH of Abu Dhabi is illegal.

Mr. Hapunda has since condemned the arrogance by UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda for showing arrogance over the matter.

“Our SP President Fred M’membe expressed concern over lack of transparency and accountability in the sale of 51% shares in Mopani Copper Mines to IRH of Abu Dhabi. But UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda accused Dr. M’membe of bitterness and envy,” he said.

The Secretary General of the ruling party must refrain from shrugging off criticism from the Socialist Party President regarding the Mopani mine transaction as mere bitterness. Dr. Fred M’membe, like every Zambian citizen, has the right to question the management of public affairs. In a budding democracy such as Zambia, constructive criticism plays a crucial role in fostering progress and development, fostering open dialogue, feedback, and accountability essential for a thriving democratic society. Neglecting to address criticism by the ruling party may indicate a weakening democracy or unfulfilled campaign promises. It is time for the governing party to engage in discussions without becoming defensive.

Mr. Hapunda said Mr. Imenda is not competent to comment on a matter of public interest such as the sale of shares in Mopani.

“It is saddening that Mr. Imenda would choose trivialize a matter that Dr. M’membe is trying to provide guidance and legal advice on a matter of public interest so that UPND is not taken to task once out of power like past administrations. The SP is always guided by the Constitution of Zambia which UPND should equally follow religiously,” he said.

Mr. Hapunda said Article 210(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia states that a major State asset shall be sold, transferred or otherwise disposed of, as prescribed, subject to the approval of the National Assembly signified by a vote of at least two-thirds of the Members of Parliament.

The SP Director Media also said for the purposes of the said Article, “major State asset” includes a parastatal and equity held by the Government, as prescribed.

Government has sold 51% shares of the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines-Investment Holdings (ZCCM-IH) in Mopani Copper Mines, to IRH of Abu Dhabi.

UMODZI KUM’MAWA CONDEMNS SELECTIVE AND MALICIOUS ARREST OF CHIEF CHIKWA AND DEMANDS HIS IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UMODZI KUM’MAWA CONDEMNS SELECTIVE AND MALICIOUS ARREST OF CHIEF CHIKWA AND DEMANDS HIS IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 1, 2024

KUM’MAWA DEVELOPMENT COALITION, also known as UMODZI KUM’MAWA, strongly condemns the recent arrest of Chief Chikwa, an esteemed traditional leader within our community. This arrest, which appears to be highly selective, raises serious concerns regarding the fair application of the law. We therefore demand his immediate release.

It has come to our attention that several chiefs from different regions, who possess licenses similar to Chief Chikwa, have been freely cutting trees without facing any consequences or harassment. This blatant disregard for consistency in law enforcement undermines our faith in the justice system and highlights the inherent bias within it.

UMODZI KUM’MAWA unequivocally opposes and condemns the arrest of our chief on the aforementioned charges because he is not the only chief who cuts trees in Zambia. How can a Chief be arrested for cutting trees in his own chiefdom when he even had a government license? Hence, we deem this arrest as political, malicious, selective and unacceptable especially that other chiefs in other regions are doing the same.

Chief Chikwa’s chiefdom exists entirely within a Game Management Area, leaving us to question where the Police and Government expected the chief to legally cut trees. The constraints imposed by the GMA have created an untenable situation that restricts sustainable development and exacerbates the socio-economic challenges faced by our people. As KDC, we demand the immediate release of our chief.

UMODZI KUM’MAWA calls for an end to the unfair targeting of Chief Chikwa and urges the authorities to critically examine the limitations inherent in Game Management Areas. We implore the Police and the government to address the systemic issues plaguing our communities, including the need for equitable access to natural resources and a comprehensive review of the current conservation policies.

Umodzi Kum’mawa Development Coalition (KDC) aims to strategically advance development programs for the people of Eastern Province in the broader context for the modernization and development of Zambia by advocating and defending for their interests and rights in all sectors. The coalition recognizes that the region has abundant natural resources and the local people must always be engaged and prioritized to discover and actualize their full developmental potential just like other Zambians elsewhere.

FRED SHOULD BE THE LAST PERSON TO TALK ABOUT DEMOCRACY TODAY

FRED SHOULD BE THE LAST PERSON TO TALK ABOUT DEMOCRACY TODAY

…..The Post newspaper was more destructive to Zambia’s democracy and unity than what he calls reduced political space today.

By Mark Simuuwe

Fred M’membe believes democracy is having the right to insult others and promote chaos , division and tribalism in the country.

I am not surprised because this was the main strategy of the Postnewspaper . Day and night , the Post prompted division, chaos , ethnic fights and insults . This is what we see in Fred even today .

The Post was partly closed for promoting division in the country and this was put on record by Hon Chishimba KAMBWILI .

Fred wants to think that democracy is asking citizens to break the law by unreasonably asking them to rise up, while he sleeps .

The amount of jealousy and hate Fred has in his life is what has buried his political career; No wonder no PF MP has been willing to even work with him even when Fred has tried hard to attract them – they literally have no respect for him .

His divisive Post-newspaper behavior has made him unsalable to citizens and makes him even more poisonous and dangerous !

His style of talk threatens the peace of the country. His approach to politics is purely draconian.

Fred M’membe says HH is a coward and should allow democracy to flourish ; has Fred forgotten that he praised the arrest and incarceration of HH for 127?

Many citizens may recall that Fred blamed HH for the PF killings of many citizens.

Where was Fred when the country was being gassed through State sponsored terrorism?

Where was he when Lawrence Banda , Nsama Nsama , Joseph Kaunda , Grazier Matapa , Mapenzi Chibulo , Kasongo , among others were being killed ?

Where was he when Prime TV was being closed ?

Where was he when 5 other media houses were being closed in Zambia ?

Where was he when over 3000 UPND members were being arrested on tramped up charges ?

Where was Fred when gun brandishing and machetes wielding PF carders were on rampage ?

Where was he when opposition were not allowed to wear their regalia ?

Where was he when over 2500 citizens were retired in National interest for merely belonging to some regions ?

He is talking about democracy. Just in his Socialist Party , there is no democracy. He is the alpha and the omega in SP dirty politics .

By the way , can he tell Zambians how many conventions he has held and who were the competitors; who voted for him and who won or lost?

Fred is lopsided in his view of democracy. He thinks democracy is being allowed to call people names , promoting tribalism , demeaning others and calling them Bantustan .

This is why FRJ Chiluba knew exactly how to sort out Fred by reducing his sphere of spreading propaganda, division , lies , bitterness and ethnolinguistic rivalry.

He has forgotten that he was made to sit on the tarmac of Bwinjimfumu road over the Post newspaper ? There is nothing he can tell us about democracy ; This is the man who praised tyranny under ECL , went ahead and supported Bill 10 which meant to kill Zambia’s democracy completely!

If Bill 10 went through , HH could have been eliminated from the ballot.

If Bill 10 went through , we would relegate the power to decide on the number or Judges that sit at the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court to parliament which is also a creature of statutes ;

If Bill 10 went through , Traditional leadership chairmanship at the House of Chiefs could have been by way of majority vote and not the rotational approach being used ;

If Bill 10 went through, we would kill freedom of worship completely as the bill aimed at removing the clause ,” multi religious …” from the preamble of the constitution;

If Bill 10 went through , there could be no democracy as the state could have been using the ,” legally disqualified “, clause in Bill 10 which clause was arbitrary and could have made it easy for someone to be suspended by any tribunal other than the court ;

Bill 10 which moved alongside the Public Order Act Bill which was a circus , aimed at even destroying the progress so far made in our constitution .

Fred praised such a bill because it aimed at eliminating HH from the ballot.

Further, Fred even went to the extent of being used by PF to coin UPND colours for SP to confuse voters but citizens were quickly alerted by UPND on the evil attempt .

Fred was okay to have ECL bounce back in 2021 than HH wining because he had evil intentions ahead of ECL victory . His extreme jealousy, made him see HH as a stumbling figure . He is at pain to see HH as President. More pain is in fact coming as 2026 buries his political aspirations for good !

Fred will end badly as a bitter man . His name will go into the Guinness book as a bitter man .

No irregularity found in the sale of ZRA vehicles, says state witness

No irregularity found in the sale of ZRA vehicles, says state witness

By Ernest Chanda

A STATE witness has told the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that there was no irregularity found in the sale of Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) vehicles between 2017 and 2020.

This is in a matter where former ZRA commissioner general Kingsley Chanda and former director of administration Calitus Kaoma as co-accused stand charged with the offence of willful failure to follow procedure in the disposal of 22 motor vehicles.

When the matter came up for continued trial before magistrate Silvia Munyinya, second state witness Bright Himuyamba, senior financial accountant at ZRA headquarters confirmed during cross-examination that there were no irregularities in the transaction.

“Is it your evidence to this court that there was nothing wrong with the disposal of motor vehicles in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, except the four vehicles in 2019 which you are alleging were not approved?” one of the defence lawyers Wynter Kabimba, a State Counsel, asked Himuyamba as the witness responded; “Yes.”

Asked if he had verified that the four vehicles were not approved, Himuyamba responded: “No, I didn’t.”

Below is a brief verbatim account of what transpired on the afternoon of Monday March 18, 2024.

Chanda’s lawyer James Matalilo: Are you familiar with the ZRA asset disposal procedure?

Himuyamba: Yes.

Matalilo: Look at those letters from the Ministry of Finance and tell the court what they are.

Himuyamba: They are approvals from the Ministry of Finance to the ZRA commissioner general to dispose of the vehicles, responding to the request by the commissioner general.

Matalilo: Are you aware that the commissioner general obtained all the approvals from the Ministry of Finance in accordance with the public finance Act?

Himuyamba: No.

Matalilo: Okay, you don’t know? But you said you know the procedure?

Himuyamba: No, I don’t know the procedure.

Matalilo: Witness, are you changing your evidence-in-chief?

Himuyamba: Yes.

Kabimba takes over: For how long have you been working for ZRA?

Himuyamba: Since 2014.

Kabimba: You were responsible for asset management in ZRA finance, right?

Himuyamba: Yes.

Kabimba: You told the court that in 2019 you found that four vehicles were sold without approval by the board out of over 68 vehicles sold between 2017 and 2020?

Himuyamba: Yes.

Kabimba: Why did you remove them from the asset register if they were not approved?

Himuyamba: It was because my boss instructed me to remove them after we received a memo from the director – administration and the CG (commissioner general) with an attachment of an approval letter from the Ministry of Finance.

Kabimba: As an auditor, is it your evidence to this court that there was nothing wrong with the disposal of motor vehicles in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 except the four vehicles in 2019 which you are alleging were not approved?

Himuyamba: Yes.

Kabimba: Did ZRA officers purchase the four vehicles?

Himuyamba: I don’t know.

Kabimba: Did you verify that the four vehicles were not approved by the board?

Himuyamba: No, I didn’t.

Kabimba: Where are the four vehicles?

Himuyamba: I don’t know.

Kabimba: Did you actually see the list of vehicles that the board approved?

Himuyamba: No, I didn’t.

Kabimba: So how did you conclude that the four vehicles were not approved nor ratified?

Himuyamba: I don’t know.

Kabimba: So why are you here, given that you don’t seem to know anything?

Prosecutor: Objection, my lady!

Kabimba: No further questions, my lady.

The matter was adjourned to March 28, 2024 for continued trial.

PARLIAMEMT MUST BE A BATTLE GROUND FOR IDEAS
By Faston Mwale, Socialist Party – MCC

By all rationality, parliament must be a space for the exchange and contestation of developmental ideas and any departure from this call amounts to suppression of ideas and suppression of ideas amounts to totalitarianism. The suspension of honorable Jean Chisenga, from the House for 30 days for heckling at President Hakainde Hichilema as a liar after addressing parliament on the progress made in the application of National Values and Principles on 15th March 2024 is an obvious example of suppression of civil and political rights promulgated in articles 19 to 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which include the freedom of expression which in turn finds currency in various pieces of legislation in Zambia’s Constitution.

In bourgeoisfied politics, lying is not an unexceptional sentimental expression, it is part of the ideological apparatus seeking to turn the unsuspecting masses into passive consumers of falsehood. The heckle as an emerging idea must therefore be contested in parliament by way of debate.

I do not imagine that heckling at the President as a liar in the aftermath of the address to parliament was a breach of parliamentaryetiquette necessitating suspension from the house. The suspension is widely perceived as an effort to limit the expression of strong dissent and intuitively reinstall the President’s image which has suffered from damage occasioned by deceptive politics, manipulation, fabrications and lying. Rather than weaponizing the law to crack down on dissenters, the UPND should seriously reflect on why the leadership is frequently trapped in webs of lies.

A lying fit is an inherent feature of the bourgeoise ideology that defines the United Party for National Development. For as long as the party is shaped by the bourgeois ideology, it will continue to consciously or unconsciously pursue deceptive politics as a way to buttress itself in power. But pursuing deceptive politics is surely treading a very dangerous path whose consequences are not difficult to fathom.

The adage “lies have legs” is a tested truth. Unfortunately, the UPND is frequently trapped in webs of lies.It is important for the UPND leadership including its rank file to seriously think about why sentiments positing that the UPND is just an opportunistic lying equipment are growing bolder.

Lying can have destructive consequences on the ruling party and already it can be seen with great clarity that the distance between the masses and the ruling party is ever growing huge. Every statement coming from the UPND must first be subjected to a test of verity before consuming it. One of the reasons why the UPND is not guaranteed a second term is that its leadership has not learned the art of telling the truth and this has frustrated a lot of people. The UNPND should make a conscious effort to exorcise itself of the demon of lying, otherwise it will continue to suffer from spontaneous bouts of heckling from brave warriors in he likes of hon. Jean Chisenga.

Thank You ZESCO, The Staggered Load-Shedding will Create a Lifeline for Zambian Businesses

In response to the impassioned pleas of citizens and the dire circumstances faced by businesses, ZESCO has taken a commendable step forward by implementing a staggered eight-hour daily load-shedding program for residential areas in Lusaka, effective from April 1st, 2024.

This decision, while arriving later than desired, serves as a much-needed lifeline for the Zambian business community, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which were on the brink of closure due to the previous prolonged load-shedding periods.

The significance of this decision cannot be overstated. For many SMEs, which form the backbone of the Zambian economy, the recent 20 days of eight-hour load-shedding wreaked havoc, causing significant damage and losses.

The advocacy efforts of many citizens, calling for shorter load-shedding durations or a staggered approach, have not gone unnoticed.

Their relentless pursuit of a solution has yielded tangible results, demonstrating the power of collective action and citizen engagement.

The revised load-shedding schedule, which entails two power outages of four hours each, spread throughout the day, aims to minimize disruption while providing some semblance of stability for businesses and households.

While it may not completely alleviate the challenges posed by power outages, it represents a step in the right direction towards finding a more equitable and sustainable solution.

ZESCO’s acknowledgement of the unique needs of industrial and farming operations is also noteworthy.

By allowing for a single uninterrupted eight-hour block of load-shedding with 16 hours of full power supply for these sectors, ZESCO recognizes the critical role they play in the nation’s economy.

This tailored approach enables better production planning and helps safeguard the livelihoods of countless individuals employed in these sectors.

However, as we express gratitude for ZESCO’s responsiveness to stakeholder concerns, it is essential to acknowledge that there is always room for improvement.

While the implementation of staggered load-shedding is a positive development, it begs the question of why such measures were not implemented earlier to mitigate the extensive damage caused by the previous prolonged load-shedding periods.

Looking ahead, it is important for ZESCO to continue engaging with stakeholders and exploring innovative solutions to address the underlying issues contributing to power outages.

Proactive measures, such as investing in infrastructure upgrades and diversifying energy sources, can help build a more resilient power grid capable of meeting the needs of all sectors of society.

STATEMENT BY ZAMBIA’S SIXTH PRESIDENT, DR. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU, ON EASTER SUNDAY

STATEMENT BY ZAMBIA’S SIXTH PRESIDENT, DR. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU, ON EASTER SUNDAY

Fellow Zambians, two days ago we remembered and celebrated the death of Jesus Christ, our King and redeemer. As we did that, we reflected on the meaning and importance of his death to us as mankind.

Today, he has risen from his death. And as we reflect on this important development, we want to remind ourselves always that a true leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.

We also want to remind ourselves that authority without wisdom is like a heavy axe without an edge, fitter to bruise than polish. In a constitutional democracy, authority is directly derived from the people through the vote.

No matter the circumstances, we must always strive to deliver what we promised. Where we fail, it is only humane that we come back and explain ourselves without excesses of finger pointing.

In leadership, just like in ordinary life, mistakes are made and we must learn from them. With hindsight, we can become better shepherds.

This Easter was a poignant consideration of what has befallen our country; the drought. With prayer and introspection, it can be concluded that ours is a nation in search of reconciliation and true belief.

We stand at a crossroads as a democracy and also as a Christian nation. But nothing is insurmountable if we care enough. In Easter, we learn of pain and anguish but most importantly the power of forgiveness and love for humanity.

This is what God has granted us through his son Jesus Christ. How then can we depart from the teachings, the living sacrifice of Jesus? Can we today stand and confidently claim to be Christians, embracing the body of Christ when some of our leaders clearly show antichrist behaviour and issue statements that are not far from blasphemy?

Are we not opposing Jesus Christ when we call those who are working hard to explain his teachings as Lucifers? Are we not proving to be antichrist when we mock a day that is selected for prayers, forgiveness and reconciliation?

These are some of the questions we need to ponder on as we remember the death of Jesus Christ and celebrate his resurrection today.

Fellow Zambians, political power is transient but God’s reign is supreme. With the risen Christ today, we must hold hands and together dedicate our hearts and efforts to national reconciliation, justice and peace.

Our lips and hearts must sing from the same hymn book. Anything short of that won’t do.

Trump slams Biden’s ‘blasphemous’ move to declare Easter Sunday ‘Transgender Day of Visibility’

0

Former US President Donald Trump slammed current President Joe Biden for his ‘appalling and insulting’ decision to ban children from submitting religious Easter egg designs.

Biden sparked widespread backlash as he also declared this Easter Sunday will officially become Transgender Day of Visibility.

‘Sadly, these are just two more examples of the Biden Administration’s years-long assault on the Christian faith,’ Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said in a statement.

‘We call on Joe Biden’s failing campaign and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only – the resurrection of Jesus Christ.’

Trump slams Biden

The White House drew controversy to this year’s Easter plans on Friday, as Biden declared that March 31 – which falls on Easter Sunday this year – will officially become Transgender Day of Visibility.

The White House also banned children from submitting Easter Egg designs for this year’s Easter Egg Roll with any ‘questionable content,’ including political statements and religious imagery.

Biden, a devout Catholic, also delivered a scathing attack on Republicans as he made the proclamation, while stressing that ‘transgender Americans are part of the fabric of our nation.’

‘But extremists are proposing hundreds of hateful laws that target and terrify transgender kids and their families — silencing teachers; banning books; and even threatening parents, doctors, and nurses with prison for helping parents get care for their children,’ he said in a press release.

‘At the same time, an epidemic of violence against transgender women and girls, especially women and girls of color, continues to take too many lives. Let me be clear: All of these attacks are un-American and must end.

‘Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans: You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong. You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back.’

Trump was not alone in blasting Biden, as other Republicans attacked him.

Businessman and former presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy said; ‘I wonder how (Biden) came up with that date’ by having Easter Sunday clash with the transgender tribute day.

Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said: ‘There is no length Biden and the Democrats won’t go to mock your faith, and to thumb his nose at God.

‘We know that Christ is King and God will not be mocked, just like we know Joe Biden isn’t really the one calling the shots in the White House.’

Even though March 31 has become the official Transgender Day of Visibility, Easter Sunday will not fall on that day again for at least the next decade.

During the period under review, both prices of oil on the international market and the exchange rate between the kwacha and the United States Dollar remained fairly stable.

Since the last fuel price review on 29th February 2024, the price of petrol and kerosene increased by 0.94% and 0.33%, respectively, while diesel reduced by 1.96%.

Specifically, petrol increased from U$$90.41/bbl to US$91.26/bbl, kerosene increased from US$97.81/bbl to US$98.13/bbl. while diesel declined from US$100.48/bbl to
US$ 98.5 |/bbl.,

The overall stability in oil prices was mainly due to marginal increase in demand for petroleum products from major consumers such as China and the United States of America.

The impact of the announcement that the Organisation for the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)+ would extend its production cuts
from March to June 2024, did not take effect during the review period.

Further, some OPEC members
supplied beyond the allocated quotas which helped to stabilise the prices on the global market.

In addition, the Kwacha recouped its losses against the United States Dollar mainly driven by the positive
sentiments attributed to the news that an agreement had been reached on the debt restructuring.

This has resulted in the Kwacha improving its performance against major currencies in the past few days.

The kwacha appreciated by 1.75%, from K25.74/US$ in February 2024 to K25.09/US$ in March 2024.

During the month of April 2024, it is expected that the positive news of debt restructuring wil provide a level
of stability in the foreign exchange market that will see the Kwacha have reduced exposure to extreme
trading volatility the short to medium term.

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has therefore maintained the pump prices of Petrol, Diesel,
Kerosene and Jet A-1 for April 2024.

The prices for Petrol, Diesel, Kerosene and Jet A-l will continue
to be K31.12/litre; K28.78/litre; K20.44/litre; and K28.23/litre respectively.

The prices have been maintained because the changes in the two key fundamentals that determine
domestic prices of fuel, that is, international oil prices and exchange rate of the Kwacha against the
United States Dollar, resulted in changes in the domestic fuel prices that were below the set
threshold of 2.5 percent.
