Putin could formally declare war on Ukraine as soon as May 9 – US officials allege

0

US and Western officials believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin could formally declare war on Ukraine as soon as May 9, to pave way for the full mobilization of Russia’s reserve forces as they attempt to conquer eastern and southern Ukraine.

In Russia, May 9, is known as “Victory Day,” and is used to commemorate the Russians’ defeat of the Nazis in 1945.

US officials say they believe that Putin would leverage the symbolic significance and propaganda value of that day to announce either a military achievement in Ukraine, a major escalation of hostilities — or both, according to a report by Reuters.

The report says western officials believe Putin will use the day to deviate from a “special military operation” with the central goal of “denazification.” which the Russian government has used to term it’s war in Ukraine to formally declare war on Ukraine

A formal declaration of war on May 9 could surge popular opinion amongst
Russian citizens tiwards the invasion and would also, under Russian law, allow Putin to mobilize reserve forces and draft conscripts, which officials say Russia desperately needs as its manpower reduces due to the war.

Western and Ukrainian officials have estimated that at least 10,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in the war since Russia invaded just over two months ago.

“I think he will try to move from his ‘special operation,’” British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told LBC Radio last week. “He’s been rolling the pitch, laying the ground for being able to say ‘look, this is now a war against Nazis, and what I need is more people. I need more Russian cannon fodder.’”

Wallace added that he “would not be surprised, and I don’t have any information about this, that he is probably going to declare on this May Day that ‘we are now at war with the world’s Nazis and we need to mass mobilize the Russian people.’”

Western officials also believe other options for Putin on May 9 include annexing the breakaway territories of Luhansk and Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, making a major push for Odesa in the south, or declaring full control over the southern port city of Mariupol.

The US has “highly credible” intelligence reports that Russia will try to annex Luhansk and Donetsk “some time in mid-May,” the US Ambassador to OSCE Michael Carpenter said on Monday, May 2.

There are also indications that Russia could be planning to declare and annex a “people’s republic” in the southeastern city of Kherson.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said ;

We’ve seen the Russians really double down on their propaganda efforts, probably, almost certainly, as a means to distract from their tactical and strategic failures on the battlefield in Ukraine,” Price said at a State Department briefing.

Price added that he had “seen the speculation that Russia may formally declare war” on May 9, and said, “that would be a great irony if Moscow used the occasion of ‘Victory Day’ to declare war, which in itself would allow them to surge conscripts in a way they’re not able to do now, in a way that would be tantamount to revealing to the world that their war effort is failing, that they are floundering in their military campaign and military objectives.”

“I’m quite confident that we’ll be hearing more from Moscow in the lead up to May 9,” Price added. “I’m quite confident that you will be hearing more from the United States, from our partners, including our NATO partners, in the lead up to May 9 as well.”

Kardashians win big in Blac Chyna’s $100 million defamation lawsuit

A jury on Monday May 2, gave a sweeping win to the Kardashian family in former reality TV star Blac Chyna’s lawsuit against them.

Chyna, a model, influencer, Rob Kardashian’s ex-fiancé and the mother to his 5-year-old daughter, Dream, had sued the Kardashian family, alleging they ruined her reality TV career.

“Rob & Chyna” aired for one season at E! in 2016. The show was at the center of Chyna’s lawsuit, which alleged that the series was canceled after its first season because the Kardashian family falsely told producers and network executives that Chyna violently attacked Rob Kardashian in December 2016. During the trial, the Kardashians and E! executives said that even though filming might have been continuous, the show was never technically greenlit for a second season, so there was nothing to cancel.

After a nine-day trial, a jury deliberated for two days and ultimately ruled that Kris Jenner, 66, Kylie Jenner, 24, and Khloé Kardashian, 37, did not defame Blac Chyna nor interfere with her contract by convincing the E! network to cancel her reality show “Rob & Chyna.”

The four Kardashian defendants; Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian and Kylie Jenner attended nearly the entire trial, but when the verdict was read all were in New York at the Met Gala, where this year’s theme was “Gilded Glamour.”

On the long jury form, the foreperson of the jury noted that, while they found that some of the Kardashians acted to protect their own economic interests, their actions either did not prevent the performance of Chyna’s contract with E! regarding the reality show Rob & Chyna or were not a substantial factor in causing harm to Chyna. The jury declined to award Chyna any damages.

Text messages and emails were shown as evidence throughout the 10-day trial, depicting the Kardashians speaking negatively about Chyna and telling E! that they might stop filming their flagship hit, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” if Chyna was involved. One text from Khloé Kardashian said, “We are even considering not moving forward with our show if theirs continues, that’s how strongly we feel this is damaging to our family.” However, when Kris Jenner testified, she said that she did not have the power to “influence” the network on any cancellation.

The case revolved around Chyna’s 2017 lawsuit, which alleged Rob Kardashian was abusive and that the Kardashian-Jenners were responsible for the cancellation of the former couple’s short-lived show. Chyna sued the entire family over claims of defamation, assault, battery, domestic violence and interference with prospective economic relations. That same year, the family responded to the claims with their own lawsuit, alleging that Chyna was the one who attacked Rob Kardashian.

The Kardashians had filed to dismiss all of Chyna’s claims with the family’s attorney, Michael G. Rhodes, saying her claims “were absurd because there was no documentary evidence, economic analysis, or expert testimony that would support them.” The judge threw out one of Chyna’s claims against Kim Kardashian for defamation, ruling that Chyna’s attorney, Lynne Ciani, did not provide any statement during the trial that proved Kim Kardashian was defamatory towards Chyna. But still, the other claims remained for the jury to deliberate on, including claims for interference with a contract against Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, plus defamation claims against the latter three stars.

Following the news on Monday, Michael Rhodes and Michelle Doolin, trial counsel for the famous family issued a statement.

It read;

“On behalf of Kris, Kim, Khloe, and Kylie, I want to express our appreciation to the jury.

“We are also grateful for the steady hand of Judge Alarcon in making sure that this was a fair trial. The jury sent a clear message to Ms. White and her lawyer — I hope they are listening. Justice has prevailed.”

Chyna has a separate revenge-porn case against Rob that was set to start after the conclusion of this case. Chyna claims that Rob, in a “fit of rage,” distributed her private nude pictures to his Instagram account with more than 9 million followers. She alleges that the nude photos went viral and were seen by hundreds of million of people, causing her humiliation and emotional distress. Rob denies that he posted the images without Chyna’s consent and that the release of the images caused her any mental pain or emotional distress

‘Outrageous and unforgivable’- Israel furiously reacts after Russia’s foreign minister justifies Ukraine war by saying Adolph Hitler was a Jew and most anti-Semitic people are jewish

0

Israel has reacted with fury after Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov claimed that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler “had Jewish blood”, when trying to justify the invasion of Ukraine .

Sergei Lavrov (pictured top left) made the comments to try to justify Vladimir Putin’s portrayal of Ukraine as a “Nazi” country despite the fact that its president, Volodimir Zelenskyy (pictured top right) is Jewish.

Lavrov made the remarks in an interview on Italian TV programme Zona Bianca on Sunday, May 1, days after Israel marked Holocaust Remembrance Day, one of the most solemn occasions in the Israeli calendar.

Nazi Germany ruled by Adolph Hitler murdered six million Jews in the Holocaust in World War Two.

When asked how Russia can claim that it is fighting to “de-Nazify” Ukraine when President Volodymyr Zelensky is himself Jewish,Lavrov said:

“So what if Zelensky is Jewish?”

“The fact does not negate the Nazi elements in Ukraine. I believe that Hitler also had Jewish blood,” adding that “some of the worst anti-Semites are Jews.”

Israel has reacted with fury calling Lavrov’s comments as ‘unforgivable’.

Israel then summmoned Russia’s ambassador and asked for an ‘apology’.

Lavrov’s statement was met with outrage across Israel’s political spectrum.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said: “Such lies are meant to blame the Jews themselves for the most terrible crimes in history and thus free the oppressors of the Jews from their responsibility.

“No war today is the Holocaust or is like the Holocaust.”

Israeli foreign minister Yair Lapid reacted angrily, calling Mr Lavrov’s words “unforgivable” on his Twitter account.

Israeli officials have also demanded an apology from Russia for the remarks.

“His words are untrue and their intentions are wrong,” said the Israeli prime minister, Naftali Bennett. “Using the Holocaust of the Jewish people as a political tool must cease immediately.”

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Zelenskyy, called Lavrov’s statement “antisemitic” and said that it is “further evidence that Russia is the legal successor of Nazi ideology”.

“Trying to rewrite history, Moscow is simply looking for arguments to justify the mass murders of Ukrainians,” he wrote.

Lavrov was also condemned by the head of Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, Dani Dayan.

“Most of his remarks are absurd, delusional, dangerous and deserving of any condemnation,” he tweeted. “Lavrov deals with the reversal of the Holocaust: turning the victims into criminals, based on the promotion of a completely unfounded claim that Hitler was of Jewish descent.”

In recent months, the Israeli government has faced some criticism for not taking a tough enough line with President Putin but the recent comments from Russia might change Israel’s stance.

For decades there have been unproven claims that Hitler’s unidentified paternal grandfather was Jewish, after an assertion by Hitler’s lawyer Hans Frank.

In his memoir, published in 1953, Frank said he had been instructed by Hitler to investigate rumours that he had Jewish ancestry. Frank said he uncovered evidence that Hitler’s grandfather was indeed Jewish – but the claim has never been corroborated by historians.

You Don’t Have To Be An MCC To Qualify For PF Presidency- Antonio Mwanza

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE AN MCC TO QUALIFY FOR PF PRESIDENCY

3rd May, 2022

There is been misinformation running the mill that those who are not Members of the Central Committee (MCC) of the Patriotic Front do not qualify to contest as Party President at the forthcoming Extraordinary General Conference slated for June.

There is no provision in the PF Party Constitution that says one has to be an MCC to qualify to contest as Party President.

Article 50 of the Party Constitution is very explicit and instructive on who qualifies to contest the PF Presidency and being a Member of the Central Committee is not one of the requirements.

ARTICLE 46: WHO ATTENDS THE GENERAL CONFERENCE

The General Conference shall be attended by:
(a) All members of the National Council; and
(b) Up to 500 delegates from each province selected in accordance with rules made by the
Central Committee.

ARTICLE 50: COMPOSITION OF NATIONAL COUNCIL
(1) The National Council of the Party shall be composed as follows: (a) Members of the Central
Committee; (b) Members of the National Assembly; (c) Provincial Secretaries;
(d) District Chairmen;
(e) District Secretaries;
(f) District Chairmen and Committee members of the Women’s and Youth Leagues. (g) Senior officers from the Party’s National Headquarters.

ARTICLE 52: WHAT’S THE PROCESS AND QUALIFIES TO BE PARTY PRESIDENT?

The Central Committee shall submit the name of the candidate or candidates to the national
Council for approval or disapproval.

The person whose candidature for the office of President is not approved by the National Council shall not be
Eligible for election at the General Conference for the office of the President of the Party.

Where only one candidate has filed nomination papers at the close of nomination, such a Candidate shall be declared duly elected President of the Party without conducting a poll.

A member of the Party shall not be qualified as a candidate for the office of the President of
Party unless he has been a member of the Party for five (5) years immediately preceding the nomination and he is qualified under the Constitution of Zambia for election to the office of the President of Zambia

Davies Mwila Is Right, Given Lubinda Has No Powers To Appoint MCCs Outside The PF National Council In Line With Article 57

DAVIES MWILA IS RIGHT, GIVEN LUBINDA HAS NO POWERS TO APPOINT MCCs OUTSIDE THE PF NATIONAL COUNCIL IN LINE WITH ARTICLE 57

Former PF SG Davies Mwila has differed with his Acting President Given Lubinda over the NEW appointments of additional PF MCCs to bring the total to less or more 80 from the constitutional required 30.

Perusing through the PF Constitution, Mwila seems to have a valid argument as Art 20 states that ALL organs of the Party shall be elective and not appointed.

Art 46 suggests that the General Conference shall have the function to elect the President of the Party and Members of the Central Committee and not appointed by the President;

While Art 49 says it shall be within the competence of the National Council to approve candidates for the office of the President of the Party or Member of the Central Committee

With regards to the additional MCCs, PF Constitution under Art 61 establishes a Central Committee of the Party, which shall consist of thirty (30). This Article does not provide additions outside amending the constitution.

The 30 MCCs compose of the President of the Party; The Secretary General of the Party; appointed by the President of the Party from amongst the members of the Central Committee; twenty-five (25) members elected by the General Conference and three members appointed by the President of the Party.

Art 57 guides that No person shall be eligible for election as a Member of the Central Committee unless s/he is a member of the Party for at least five years

This could be the reason Emmanuel Mwamba and Chishimha Kambwili are not being considered for the position of MCCs though in the past, this provision was glossed over e.g. appointment of former UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma.

Regarding the FILLING IN OF CASUAL VACANCIES in the Central Committee, Art 57(😎 stresses that In the event of a Member of the Central Committee (other than the President of the Party) resigning, being incapacitated, dying or otherwise ceasing to be a Member of the Central Committee, the National Council shall elect another person to fill the vacancy not the president.

What is permissible to the President of the Party?

Art 59 empowers the President to appoint not more than six advisers to each of the Committees while Art 61 empowers him/her to appoint ad hoc or Standing Committees to advise the party on any matter whatsoever.

IN ADDITION the President is also empowered to take disciplinary action against a member of the Party on the grounds of the member’s misbehavior and report his/her action to the Central Committee for ratification and to take a decision or an action which in his opinion is in the best interest of the development or security of the Party and to appoint a Member of the Central Committee to act as Secretary-General of the Party in the absence of the substantive holder of the post.

In case the President claims the powers were derived from regulations and standing orders, Art 69 concludes that the regulations and Standing Orders of the Party made by the Central Committee may be enforced meanwhile subject to ratification by the National Council.

From the foregoing, one asks a question, where did Given Lubinda, as Acting President for PF, derive the powers from to appoint MCCs?

Therefore, Davies Mwila is right to question the legality of the newly appointed PF MCCs.

I submit

Given Lubinda Has Put A Final Nail In The Coffin, PF Rest In Peace – Bizwell Mutale

PATRIOTIC FRONT PARTY DEPUTY PRESIDENT HON. GIVEN
LUBINDA HAS PUT A FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN-PF REST IN
PEACE

By PF NATIONAL MOBILIZATION COMMITTEE MEMBER BIZWELL MUTALE:

I have followed the unfolding events of Patriotic Front-Members of Central Committee with
serious concerns and interest, the culture of working relationship between the Members of
Central Committee and the Patriotic Front Members and their Party Structures has completely
been driven apart and ignored.

The leadership of Hon Given Lubinda, the Acting Deputy President of Patriotic Front Party
who forced the Patriotic Front Party President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu then, to sign a letter
of his appointment as the Acting Deputy President of Patriotic Front without a Central
Committee Consultation and approval of his appointment Party Structures.

Patriotic Front Party was Seriously Humiliated in 2021 General Election to the UPND Party
that formed the new Government now and it recorded first ever unexpected loss as a sitting
Government in Power, the People Spoke widely to reject Patriotic Front Party Government,
under his watch Hon Given Lubinda who was then, sitting as the Member of Central
Committee and National Executive Committee the Highest making decisions body for the
entire PF Party, failed to accept the failure of the entire MCC and he chose to be a leader
now proven to be a disastrous leader and continued to drive the Party in non-rebrand mood.
The Current Central Committee has been rejected and asked to step down to allow the Party
Rebranding and gain the confidence of the PF members and Members of the Public. The most
unacceptable behaviour that brought Patriotic Front Party to Lose Election and booted out of
the office, it has continued, now under the watchful eye of Hon Given Lubinda whose agenda
is to destroy and send Patriotic Front into Oblivion.

Patriotic Front Party has just completed itself, to confirm to the Patriotic Front Members and
the Members of the Public that, it can never be Rebranded not even to be resuscitated for
another breath in a Zambian Political lifetime what a send-off.

The new recycled non-performing Member of Central Committee appointed by Patriotic Front
Party Acting President Hon Given Lubinda, it’s a final nail in the coffin, Patriotic Front Rest in
Peace.

The agenda of making sure that Patriotic Front Party is dissolved and deregistered as an
active political party in Zambia, has now come to light and the master minder has continued
to cartel very successful and the feelings of the Members, that has believed in this Party have
been ignored. The grassroot members at this point they don’t exist completely ignored. This
is a repeat of the Candidate adoption mistake made it was not a mistake it’s a planned move
I’am very concerned with this issue of working in a cartel group style, circle systems has
continued and it’s a big signal to confirm that Patriotic Front has completely Gone its over,
there is no Return back in any form by any means the dream ends here and now.

I want to assist the Acting Deputy President Hon Given Lubinda to confirm that Patriotic Front
Party under his leadership style its time to Pack the Bags and stop dreaming for 2026. It will not be rebranded and revitalised in any form; the Party has a lot of members that can turn this

Party Around 100% but the Cartel of Destruction the same Cartel that Operated towards the
General Election has continued. Segregation, tribalism, greed, infighting, selfish, betrayal and
regional cartel.

There is nothing that has changed or that will change looking at the current situation in the
Patriotic Front Party, we are sinking, too many lies and fake Pretences in PF Political stance,
its over and will not return or exist ever again, into a real-life PF it’s time to accept the reality
and turn the new Chapter, process it and move on game over.

The existence of PF was living in denial, and it has continued to do so, due to the cartel that
thinks, it can take the will of the Patriotic Front Member and the member of The Zambian
Public for Granted. There are still some people who have continued to relate themselves that,
we came with H.E. President Michael Chilufya Sata MHSRIP, making themselves to be more
relevant than the others, even feel better than the Family of the Party Founding Father.
This kind of PF Politics is over, PF need to focus on the realistic, some were PF Members to
work and build the Party around the Country, while some were members of PF just Fattening
their stomachs at the expense of the deserving members of the PF, talking rubbish and
blackmailing people whom they don’t even know about and cheating the President while
embezzling funds from him with false Pretence.

There are many reasons this PF Party has got to this stage and it’s no longer rumours’ its
factual. There was an internal backstabbing and tribal alignment, friends Pocket alignment in
terms of operations resources and Presidential appointments, this was highly controlled by
the internal tribal cartel, the President did not have much Power, this one and that one we are
not together (ABA TATULIBONSE), now the same cartel today in cooking oil and water, the
new Cartel headed by Hon Given Lubinda has risen to divide the PF deeper and shut the
doors and send the Party to its knees good bye.

Patriotic Front Youth and women were used only when needed and no support, and not even
allowed to meet or be greeted by the President. The Cartel will surround the President when
on the tour like he is an egg, there were few Police Security near The President and more
Cartels became the Security of The President, these are high ranking Ministers, Member of
Parliament, State House Staff that were members of the Cartel headed by The Secretary
General Hon Davis Mwila then.

This incapacitated the President to get to meet the Local Police officials, Government officials,
PF Party Official at Provincial level, District and Constituencies officials, I was meeting these
people and they briefed me their concerns and I gave it to the President. This was not a
standard operation it was cartel operation, now it’s a check mate new cartel Hon Given
Lubinda is running the new error of finishing what was left of PF.

The non-performing team of so-called Member of Central Committee; it’s a new final team of
PF Oblivion send off.

Late Chile 1’s family call for peace and unity to prevail during his burial on Wednesday

The family of murdered Kitwe Jerabo and businessman Richard Chileshe Mbulu commonly known as Chile One has called for peace and unity to prevail during the burial set for this Wednesday in Kitwe.

Mr Mbulu was allegedly shot dead by his wife Annie Monta, 30, in their bedroom after a marital dispute in the early hours of Saturday in Riverside, Kitwe. Monta has since been charged with murder by Police in Kitwe.

Family spokesperson Kelvin Tembo said Chile One’s burial has been tentatively set for this Wednesday at Kitwe Memorial Park in Nkana East.

Mr. Tembo has admitted that emotions among mourners are expected to be high as burial approaches.

He said it was important that Chile One’s family and close friends unite during the mourning period in the best interest of his seven children and several dependants.

Speaking to journalists at the funeral house in Riverside, Kitwe, Mr. Tembo reiterated that the death of Mr. Mbulu was heartbreaking.

“So far I think we are on course with our burial arrangements. We have set Wednesday as a burial date as you may be aware this is a case of murder where we need to get a court order for the postmortem and courts are closed today (Monday) and they are only opening on Tuesday. So we can obtain the court order tomorrow Tuesday and the burial take place on Wednesday. We are burying at Kitwe Memorial Park in Nkana East. The time and burial programme will be communicated to the public soon,” Mr. Tembo said.

“The atmosphere at the funeral is so far calm and sombre as you see it but as people begin to know that burial is on emotions will begin to rise but that is always expected because as of now to some people it has not sunk in that this person is no more. But as you approach burial that is when people do realise that this person is truly gone. We expect a lot of emotions. We should be guided differently depending on the person that is emotionally affected at that particular day and I think the best that I can do is to ask the family to stick together and the public those that were close to him to just take it has it comes. There is nothing we can do. This has happened and we accept that he is gone. It is very very heartbreaking but there is nothing we can do,” he said.

“The best thing we can do as a family is to stick together. As friends we stick together, we make a plan now for the children that have remained. Remember he has left seven children. That is seven problems and those are not the only people that are affected. We have got close friends and relatives who literally depended on him. So I think what is important is how we come out of this not what we do in the meantime because if we do bad things that will affect the future of the children, it will affect the future of those that entirely depended on him as well,” Mr. Tembo said.

According to Copperbelt police commanding officer Sharon Zulu:”A Pistol 9mm Taurus by make, silver in colour, serial number THR 43651 was used. The victim sustained a bullet wound on his left side of the back where he was shot at and on the right side of his chest where the bullet came out. He was rushed to Progress private hospital and later to Kitwe Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The body of the deceased has since been deposited to Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. The firearm with one empty cartilage was recovered from the scene, arrest made.”

MNANGAGWA COUNSEL HH…on implications of AFRICOM presence in the SADC region- Masarira

MNANGAGWA COUNSEL HH
…on implications of AFRICOM presence in the SADC region

By Staff Reporter

THE Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) president Linda Tsungirirai Masarira says Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa should engage President Hakainde Hichilema and counsel him on the historical context and implications of AFRICOM presence in the SADC region.

She says President Hichilema “is selling out the struggles of founding fathers of Zambia Kenneth Kaunda and the Frontline States principles”.

Masarira, in a statement, said Zimbabweans must be wary of the US manoeuvres in Zambia as they pose a great threat to national and regional security as well as sovereignty of all SADC states.

“I call upon all the Zambian people to resist such betrayal before America turns the rest of Africa into the current state of Libya. As the president of Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats, I vehemently condemn the US-Africa Command Office of Security Cooperation in Zambia as it is a direct threat to Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity,” she said. “US is fighting to democratise Africa to control Africa and its resources. They are fully aware that leaders without a military background are gullible and easy to manipulate. The US is clandestinely invading Africa in the the new scramble for Africa agenda. Firstly, we know that the Zambia-US partnership is not just about Zambia.”
She charged that the target country is Zimbabwe and the DRC.

“The US is coveting minerals in the two countries that are neighbours to Zambia while Britain has established herself in Rwanda. This is imperialism of Africa and it has always been coming ever since Hichilema took over the reigns in Zambia. This move is posing a security threat to the African continent and not only is it going to cause instability in Southern Africa through inviting the American enemies to attack Southern Africa,” Masarira charged. “America has numerous enemies and having military offices in Zambia attracts Islamic terrorist attacks and creates a launchpad for the US to carry out regime change invasion on countries that are not agreeing with its foreign policy and Zimbabwe is number one target because of its stance on land and black economic empowerment. This move was first resisted by Thabo Mbeki in 2006 when they wanted to establish a similar office in Botswana.”
Masarira said it was appalling that President Hichilema “is naive and has no understanding of the history and geopolitical context of Africa and the complexities of decolonisation”.

“Hichilema is selling out the struggles of founding fathers of Zambia Kenneth Kaunda and the Frontline States principles. Zambia suffered the brutal attacks from the colonial [Ian] Smith regime who unleashed brutal force at freedom camp and Mkushi, killing hundreds of Zimbabwean liberation war fighters that were housed by Zambia. In all honesty, Kenneth Kaunda should be turning in his grave to see this happening now. What Hichilema is doing is a betrayal of fellow African countries and is creating a room for proxy wars that ravaged Middle North Africa and the Middle East countries like Libya and Syria,” she said. “The SADC troika and SADC Heads of State must educate him of the risks that he is dragging Zambia into by allowing himself to be the Zelensky of Southern Africa. Government of Zimbabwe should put more effort into uniting the people of Zimbabwe and boosting the morale of the security sector. President Mnangagwa should play an active role into uniting SADC states against the impending recolonisation of Africa which is being launch-padded in Zambia. History has a way of repeating itself, Zambia was used as a benchmark of the liberation of all SADC states and the neocolonialists agenda of the new scramble for Africa has strategically planned the recolonisation agenda of Africa starting from Zambia. This is a real cause of concern to all SADC states which must not be taken lightly.”

Masarira appealed to President Mnangagwa to engage President Hichilema over the matter.
“Yes…President ED Mnangagwa in his capacity as Head of State should engage his counterpart in Zambia, President Hichilema and counsel him on the historical context and the implications of AFRICOM presence in the SADC region. Fellow liberation movements in the SADC region should engage each other and find a way of dealing with this impending threat of neo-colonialism and regional security,” said Masarira.

NKOMBO SHOULD RESIGN…an example must be set – Musenge

NKOMBO SHOULD RESIGN

…an example must be set – Musenge

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone

FORMER Copperbelt minister Mwenya Musenge has called for research on how to transform the now illegal Kachasu brew into a legal product.

He advises President Hakainde Hichilema not to take Zambians’ trust and support for his new dawn government for granted by not taking action against erring ministers.

“We know that the coming in of the new dawn government especially on governance comes with morals and these should be followed by Nkombo resigning on moral grounds. An example must be set,” he said.

During a raid on Kachasu brewers in Lusaka’s Garden Compound, Minister of Local Government Gary Nkombo forced a mother and her children to drink the Kachasu she was brewing.

Nkombo’s action received a public backlash forcing the minister to issue a public apology the next day.

He also met the victims at his office to render his personal apology to them.

But Musenge said Kachasu brewing has been going on for decades even before Zambia’s independence.

“We know that brewing of Kachasu is illegal, but it has not begun today. Even my grandmother used to brew Kachasu in the village. People go there to buy and drink it. No one is forced,” he said. “Even when it is an illegal brew, so there ought to be something done, research carried out on it, to find a way of how it can be legalised and made sure it is not life threatening.”

With regards Nkombo’s action, Musenge said despite being his brother-in law, the minister was definitely not right and called for him to resign on moral grounds.

“Not only as minister but also as a member of parliament for Mazabuka because there are people who brew Kachasu in Mazabuka. So was he going to do what he did in Lusaka in his constituency? Can he do it? Even late Michael Sata stopped the removal of street vendors not because he condoned the vice but because there were no mechanisms in place to take care of the vendors. You can’t have a politician who is totally insensitive to the plight of the poor people,” he said. “Some of us have retired from politics but we are being forced to wake up because we are seeing very few people speaking out for the silent majority.”

Musenge said President Hichilema “should not take for granted the overwhelming support that is coming from Zambians”.

“One minister (Copperbelt’s Elisha) Matambo was inciting UPND cadres to attack anyone who attacks President Hichilema. Then you have [Stanley] Kakubo (foreign affairs) who finds himself in a very compromising situation with the Chinese [at Sinoma Cement] and now we have a minister who forces women to drink Kachasu and the President is quiet about it,” noted Musenge. “We know that the coming in of the new dawn government especially on governance comes with morals and these should be followed by Nkombo resigning on moral grounds. An example must be set.”

We had our time, let’s help colleagues deliver – Michael Kaingu

By Ben Mbangu in Choma

MICHAEL Kaingu has asked former and current ministers to tone down on their language and act honourably.

Dr Kaingu, who served in various ministries both in the MMD and PF governments, urged former ministers not to be petty and jealous of those who are currently serving.

“Former ministers please tone down on your language. A minister serving or former carries with him a certain decorum that brings envy and respect from those who wish or ever aspire to be ministers,” he said in a statement. “We had our time, let’s help our colleagues to deliver. After all, as President Hakainde Hichilema keeps saying, they are our workers. If the economy improves we all benefit.”

Dr Kaingu advised former ministers to only offer constructive criticism to a sitting government and not insulting the President or fellow ministers.

“We shouldn’t find pleasure in their failures after all njala (hunger) knows no former minister. Let’s not wreck the stage just because our song is not playing. I don’t also believe that we must all form political parties in order to be heard,” he observed. “Respect and awareness of the consequences of all our actions, words and thoughts is fundamental. Those who speak to only attract attention are quickly forgotten in life.”

Dr Kaingu said the worst period of former ministers insulting a sitting head of state was during Edgar Lungu’s time.

“Former president Lungu was insulted more by his own former ministers than just ordinary citizens. We heard names like Bapompwe, (thief), chakolwa (drunkard)… In my opinion former president Lungu’s loss of the election was partly because of the abusive language of his own former ministers, who later rejoined him,” noted Dr Kaingu. “The trend of insults, bad language and lack of respect for the presidents came with the PF. Ministers after serving in cabinet must be mature and know how difficult the office of the president is and must remember collective responsibility of serving in cabinet. A minister is a creation of the president and should be obedient to the president at all times.”

Dr Kaingu said in leadership if one doesn’t agree with their colleagues, it would be wise to offer advice to them or keep quiet.

“It’s not all policies I agree with the UPND government. For example, as a former minister of community development, I don’t think CDF will achieve the intended objectives going by the manner it is being disbursed. K25.7 million in a constituency if properly administered must create new towns. I also feel the government is focusing too much resources on the social sectors,” he said.

Dr Kaingu said the employment of teachers and medical personnel should have been gradual.

“The figures in question will blow up government pay roll. I also feel the K65 million recovered from Faith Musonda should have gone to university infrastructure than to enroll more students because next year the government must find the same figure to keep the students in the university,” he said. “In the Ministry of Community Development for example, we had a lot of empowerment programmes and to be frank, empowerment programmes for our people have been there since president Kaunda’s years. Each government that came had tried to empower our people but the success rate was very low. Therefore, K25.7 million in the manner it’s being disbursed might fail but let’s wait and see. I say all this to help my colleagues but the game is theirs. I am not in any way defending those with issues with the law, that is for the courts. As former ministers please tone down on your language and be honourable. People within and outside Zambia are listening.”

Dr Kaingu observed that lack of civility in the language used by former ministers had left citizens and the international community wondering what sort of leadership they provided to the people and whether they can still be of use again.

“Yes we can differ but only in ideologies. There shouldn’t be any rivalry. It’s only in this country where a serving minister is addressing a gathering where there is a former minister and he doesn’t acknowledge his presence. It is this poor usage of the language that has made our former ministers not to be considered for UN or AU jobs,” he said. “Former ministers were supposed to be repository of wisdom and good governance. Ministers whether still serving or former must completely refrain from making tribal remarks, instead must help in unifying the nation.”

Dr Kaingu said it was important to understand that presidents use their own judgment to honour just a few men and women to form cabinet.

“The ministers’ role is to assist the President to govern. The President if he wants, can keep any ministry until he finds a person he believes can deliver in that ministry. It is a rarest opportunity to be a minister. The chosen men and women must swear to protect the Constitution and pay allegiance to the President at all times. It goes without saying therefore, that the President bestows honour and respect on those men and women,” he said. “You can see the respect, honour and confidence the President gives the man or woman he appoints to the office of a minister. Therefore, the minister serving or former should demonstrate civility towards the President whether a serving or former. Serving and former presidents and ministers were supposed to be a fraternity, hence the reason former presidents and ministers are accorded the respect of state funerals.”

Dr Kaingu said no matter how annoyed a minister is, must never call a former president or a serving president unprintable names or insults.

“The ministers must remember at all times the allegiance to the President and this allegiance to the President does not end with the office,” said Dr Kaingu. “The late former president Kenneth Kaunda used to fire and replace ministers and members of the central committee at will and every time you heard of a press conference, you would tell that the president was reshuffling his cabinet but we never ever heard fired men and women insulting him because there was respect for the office. During former president Frederick Chiluba’s third term bid, most of his ministers left but we never heard them insulting him as much as we heard from former president Edgar Lungu’s former ministers.”

47 aspirants now cleared to run for president in Kenya polls

0

A record 47 Kenyans have been cleared to run for President as independent candidates in the August General Election, even as major political parties plot spirited fights against politicians going it alone.

If all of them go through the final hurdle and are cleared to contest by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), this could be Kenya’s longest presidential election ballot paper since multi-party elections in 1992.

They will face leading contenders Deputy President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party boss Raila Odinga and Safina flagbearer Jimi Wanjigi for the top job.

And it’s not just the presidential race that the number of independent candidates has shot up.

A total of 7,111 individuals are seeking to run as independents for various elective seats ahead of today’s deadline, according to a list by the Registrar of Political Parties seen by the Nation.

A breakdown of the numbers show that 104 individuals have been cleared to run for governor while another 141 are seeking to Senate seats as independent candidates. The 47 woman rep positions have attracted a total of 110 independent aspirants while the number of those gunning for the 290 parliamentary seats has hit 944. Another 5,765 have been cleared by the office to run for the 1,450 county assembly positions.

In 2017, IEBC cleared Japheth Kaluyu, Michael Wainaina and Joseph Nyagah to run for president as independent candidates.

In that election, the registrar cleared a total of 4,950 individuals but only 4,002 got the IEBC nod to feature in different ballots.

Declared war

As the number of independent candidates rise, the main political parties have declared war against their candidatures. President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party, Mr Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Dr Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are among the parties that have vowed to lock out the hopefuls from eating into their strongholds.

However, some analysts see the drastic increase in the number of independent candidates as a major “indictment” on parties for conducting sham primaries.

The August 9 polls has also witnessed a drastic increase in the number of fringe parties fielding candidates. Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu revealed that, out of 82 parties cleared to participate in the polls, 80 have fielded candidates.

Ms Nderitu attributed the surge to the realisation by politicians that they can run as independent candidates even after losing in the primaries.

She said most of the people seeking an independent ticket did not participate in party nominations.

“The increase is mostly because of awareness as compared to previous polls. A majority of them did not participate in the party primaries; they started applying before the primaries,” said Ms Nderitu.

Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and his UDA counterpart Veronica Maina yesterday said a majority of the independents will be crushed at the ballot while suggesting that they were genuinely defeated in the party primaries.

Mr Kioni declared that Jubilee will viciously campaign against them so as to ensure they do not penetrate the ruling outfit’s perceived backyard of Mt Kenya.

“We are not going to allow independent candidates to eat into our support base; we will campaign very viciously against them because they have basically defied the management of political parties in this country,” said Mr Kioni.

He claimed that a majority of the politicians did not want to be vetted or subjected to a competitive process.

“Their decision to run as independent shows they are defiant and do not want to be answerable to anybody. There will be more independent candidates running in the polls but very few are likely to make it,” he added.

He said the party will soon begin to educate voters on why they should not back independents as they cannot “push for any agenda in the house”.

Ms Maina said those who lost in credible nominations will still lose at the ballot.

“The surge in numbers does not say anything much about the primaries because in the nominations you have 10 people competing and only one winning.”

“The nine who lose, may still choose to lose in a different way at the ballot by running as independents,” she said.

She admitted that there may be genuine cases of irregularity but was quick to point out that a majority do not just want competition at the party level.

Mr Odinga recently labelled individuals who jump ship to run as independent after losing in primaries as selfish politicians.

“Some of them applied to run on political parties but when they are subjected to nominations and lose, they decide to run as independents. Why didn’t they declare their interests in vying as independents without participating in party nominations?” he posed.

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said the increase was not purely because of the alleged irregularities in party primaries but a sign of growing democratic space and the realisation that there are options to the ballot.

“More and more people are becoming interested in politics. In fact, a bulk of the independents did not participate in any party primaries. So the surge has nothing to do with parties,” said Mr Sifuna.

But ODM chairperson John Mbadi said the record increase should serve as a wake-up call for major parties to respond to claims of irregularities in nominations.

Mr Mbadi said claims of manipulation could be directly linked to the increase.

ODM largely issued direct tickets but also experienced technology hiccups in the primaries that were paperless. UDA also witnessed cases of destruction of poll materials as well as delays in delivery in some of the electoral areas.

“I see a possibility of more independent MPs in the next Parliament; that will be an indictment on the major political parties. What is it that we are not doing right in party primaries?” Mr Mbadiposed.

The current National Assembly has a total of 13 independent MPs. ODM lost Kisumu East constituency to Shakeel Shabbir, who is defending his seat as an independent, as well as Nyali’s seat to Mohamed Ali, now in UDA.

Jubilee lost Ainabkoi seat to William Chepkut, who lost in its primaries, as well as Meru Woman Representative Kawira Mwangaza.

Other independent MPs are John Paul Mwirigi (MP Igembe South), Patrick Wainaina of Thika Town, Turbo’s Janet Sitienei, Suna West’s Peter Masara, Mwambu Mabonga (Bumula), Kathuri Murungi (South Imenti), Zadoc Ogutu (Bomachoge Borabu), Charles Kilonzo (Yatta), Patrick Musimba (Kibwezi West). -Daily Monitor

Denmark and Sweden summon Russian ambassadors after Russian military plane breached its airspace

0

Denmark and Sweden have summoned Russia’s ambassadors to their countries after a Russian military plane violated their airspace.

Danish and Swedish military authorities reported that Russian planes entered Danish airspace on Friday evening, April 29, east of the Danish Baltic island of Bornholm then entered Swedish airspace.

The move by Russia came days after Finland and Norway announced plans to join Transatlantic military alliance, NATO, with NATO saying their membership could be accepted as much as early as June.

On Sunday, May 1, Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod said Russia’s ambassador to Denmark has been summoned over the spy plane incident, which he slammed as “unacceptable”.

“The Russian ambassador is summoned to the foreign ministry tomorrow,” Kofod tweeted on Sunday.

“A new Russian violation of Danish airspace. This is totally unacceptable and particularly worrying in the current situation,” he said.

The Swedish foreign ministry also said the Russian ambassador would be summoned in Stockholm.

“There exist established procedures for this kind of case. It concerns notably summoning the representative of the implicated nation to the foreign ministry,” Sweden’s ministry said in an email.

The airspace violation triggered swift reactions in Sweden, where Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist told local media that such action was “unprofessional” and “inappropriate” considering heightened tensions in the region due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Swedish defence ministry said in a statement that the incursion by the “Russian AN-30 propeller plane” was monitored and recorded.

It’s not the first time, Russia has violated Swedish airspace.

In early March, four Russian fighter jets penetrated the airspace over Sweden.

Henrik Mortensen, a Danish Defence Command press officer, said the Russian reconnaissance plane was in Danish airspace “for a very brief moment. Two Danish F-16 immediately intervened”.

Since Moscow launched its land, sea and air offensive against Ukraine on February 24, Nordic countries such as Sweden and Finland have been reviewing their long-standing military neutrality and are considering joining NATO. Denmark is already a member of NATO.

Moscow has repeatedly warned Finland and Denmark against joining NATO.

You need to trust us, we are working – Nalumango

By Charles Tembo

VICE-PRESIDENT Mutale Nalumango has told civil servants not to receive instructions from wrong people including party cadres on how to execute their duties.
Vice-President Nalumango said this upon arrival at the Zuze Air Force Base in Ndola yesterday ahead of Labour Day commemoration in Kitwe.

“Your government is working and you need to trust us. Let nobody lie to you that you are not working. No we are working,” she said.
Vice-President Nalumango urged Zambians not to entertain those misleading them that they made a mistake by voting for the UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema.

Vice-President Nalumango said the UPND was working hard to bring back the country on track.
She said there was need for the civil service to uphold professionalism adding that the UPND administration would not interfere in the operations of civil servants.

Vice-President said upholding professionalism was the only way normalcy would be restored in the country.
She said the government would continue to respect professionals in the civil service because they were technocrats with experience on how to implement policies.

“Professionals were abused to do the wrong things. You who are in the civil service you are expected to be professional in your conducts. You should not receive instructions from wrong people on how to execute your duties because even by your oath to obey any unlawful instructions is wrong,” Vice-President Nalumango said. “We will not chase people like we were chased because we want our colleagues to do the right things because that is how they are going to contribute to oneness in our country.”

She said the UPND administration would ensure under its tenure the country remained united and a democratic nation.
Vice-President Nalumango said the government would ensure the country was transformed politically, economically and socially.
And Copperbelt minister Elisha Matambo maintained that he won’t allow people insulting President Hichilema in the guise of freedom of expression.

He said Copperbelt was calm and had not recorded any incidences of confusion.
Matambo, who is also Copperbelt UPND chairman, said people in the province were enjoying the freedom of expression.
However, he warned that he would not tolerate individuals that would abuse the freedom of speech granted by President Hichilema to insult.
He said people were thankful for the introduction of the free education policy and the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
“We are happy that today we are receiving you in a different style unlike last time when you were booted out. The province in terms of security is quiet and stabilised,” Matambo said.
He said the party was intact and had intensified mobilisation to ensure its growth.

Fight Against Corruption Cannot Be Your Everyday Topic, HH Told

FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION CANNOT BE YOUR EVERYDAY TOPIC, BALLY TOLD OFF

…..as Hon Mundubile says Zambians are fatigued by President’s corruption topic

Monday, May 2, 2022 (SMART EAGLES)

The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has told President Hakainde Hichilema that the fight against corruption cannot be an everyday topic.

Speaking when he featured on Muvi Tv’s ‘The Assignment’ program last night, leader of the opposition in Parliament Hon Brian Mundubile said instructions have already been done with regards to the matter in question adding that law enforcement agencies are in motion.

He stressed that people get fatigued if one talks about the same topic repeatedly.

Hon Mundubile also stressed that if someone claims to have done something yet they have to spend hours explaining the same it means they have done nothing.

“But if at every juncture that is what the President is talking about, the audience sometimes gets fatigued if you talk about the same things over and over again,” he said.

“So sometimes talk about something then people will wait to see actions. Like one eminent comment said, I saw a video last week that was saying ‘for instance, if you have done something and it takes you an hour to explain it means you have done nothing or if you are doing something then you are getting hours to explain, most likely you are not doing anything.”

Meanwhile, Mundubile said the President squandered a big opportunity to explain to the Zambians how he intends to revive the economy and reduce the cost of living.

“Firstly, I want to say that the President squandered yet another big opportunity to explain to the Zambian people, especially the worker today what plans he has to revive the economy and the exact roadmap his government intends to implement,” he said.

“The work of government especially the President is there to give hope. When the President speaks, the troubled cases should be settled. He must give hope to the citizens. In this case we are talking about the Zambian worker who is faced with a number of challenges. The rise in food prices, fuel prices, among others.”

He said he thought the President would redeem himself in his speech yesterday when he graced Labour Day Commemoration but maintained that President Hichilema squandered yet another opportunity.

“When the President addressed the nation last week, he didn’t pay attention to that particular item which is very important to most citizens, that is the high cost of living. We actually thought that after the many discussions where we pointed out that what people wanted to hear, the President did not pay attention to…. we thought he would come round and redeem himself. But it looks like he squandered yet another opportunity,” he said.

And Mundubile said the only way to fight poverty is by creating sustainable employment.

GOD IS NOT A SOCIALIST- Dr Canisius Banda

GOD IS NOT A SOCIALIST
[On Labour, its Day, and Other Imperatives]

Neither is He a Capitalist.

On days like Labour Day, we must deeply reflect on the origins, wellbeing and future of work.

Through such careful reflection, we must then fashion a future that is harmonious for all concerned with reference to work/labour and workers.

A curious and noteworthy phenomenon is that nearly all political parties in Zambia acknowledge God as the supreme authority of all guidance.

This is encouraging, God being the embodiment of THE SOURCE.

And yet, nearly all their manifestos do NOT accurately reflect this acknowledgement.

Note that anything that is NOT premised or founded on God will fail.

All conflict/war is a product of disobedience, a consequence of the violation of God’s own principles, a manifestation of existential disequilibrium.

Before God, all things have value, and all things are connected, one BENEFITTING the other.

Balance is the Universal principle that governs all existence.

ALL people must work.

It follows then that anyone who does not use his or her acquired knowledge, competences or skills to create income or wealth for his or her own survival violates this law of nature.

And anyone who DOES NOT WORK sins, and will die, for the wages of sin is death.

God is very clear on the unemployed. He says that they should NOT eat.

It is therfore an imperative that any leader of people, a president or otherwise, must create an enabling environment for all people to work.

As we seek a better world, we shall be required to abandon both capitalism and socialism in their present forms and absoluteness.

Both these forms of ideologies as premises for economic culture fail.

They both create and lead to social disequilibria.

Their failure is intrinsic to the variances that they reflect with the dictates of God.

Both are NOT fair.
God is FAIR.

All economies of the future in the world must be founded on equity or fairness.

All trade must be a function of love for thyself as one would another.

All TRADE must be fair.
To a significant degree, Zambia’s own economic ills are a product of unfair trade.

Take transfer-pricing in our mines, for instance.

And for as long as there is NO FAIR TRADE in the world, conflict/war will reign, and with it suffering and death.

Capitalism is founded on GREED.

Socialism is founded on SLOTH.

Both greed and sloth are deadly sins, the others, though not directly mentioned in the Holy Bible, being pride, envy, lust, wrath and gluttony.

Sins kill.

Capitalism seeks profit by all means.

It is because of this pursuit of Capitalism that it leads to the exploitation of workers.

Capitalism is not FAIR to workers. Despite working excellently and hard, a worker under Capitalism is not paid his just/due wages.

Get the most out of a worker for the least pay, that is its driving spirit.

Therefore, various mechanisms are devised and used in Capitalist societies to exploit/defraud the worker as much ascis possible all in pursuit of profit.

As a way to fight back for his own welfare, it is this exploitation that gave birth to labour unions by the labourer.

Socialism seeks the blanket wellbeing of all people. On this score alone, it is without equal.

However, it also is NOT fair because it exploits one for the benefit of the other.

It does not encourage individuals to be responsible for themselves.

Under Socialism regardless of whether you work hard or NOT, your salary will come, you will eat.

And this salary is blind to individual workers’ attributes such as excellence, punctuality, commitment to duty or diligence.

Whether one labourer is superior to the other, or inferior to the other, they all are treated the same.

Through such an approach in Socialist societies, the strong, the brilliant, the smartest are NOT duly rewarded for their attributes.

Instead, they are made to subsidise the weak, idiotic and lazy.

By taking away from the diligent and giving to the poor/lazy, Socialism destroys the natural order of responsibility or incentives and flouts the sacred commandment of God that he who does NOT work must not eat.

Under Socialism, it does not matter whether you work or not, you will still eat.

An example of a socialist structure in Zambia is the Civil Service.

The Civil Service in Zambia is not appropriately sensitive to targets and performance. It is only a grand social welfare scheme not in keeping with business principles.

The Civil Service is the biggest loss-making labour organisation in Zambia.

It blatantly and perennially rewards mediocrity.

Whether you turn up or not, and when you turn up, whether you perform or not, you will still be paid.

Socialism, by subsidising sloth, promotes it. In the end, the whole organisation of labour, fails. It is NOT sustainable.

God insists on DUE pay.
Each one must be paid in accordance with their input.

No one should be made to pay for the sins of another.

Each one must take responsibility for themselves.

Do NOT eat that which you have not toiled for and harvested, He says.

FAIRNESS.

It follows then that all labour and its organisation must, to the nth degree, reflect fairness.

The lazy must not get paid.
And the diligent must get their deserved reward.

Employers and employees must enjoy a win-win relationship, cognisant that one’s prosperity is reliant on the other’s.

Both the employer and employee must cherish the factory, seeing it as a co-owned arena for their own survival and prosperity.

The quality of products must be a function of love/truth and NOT deception.

To offer the VERY BEST should be the driving spirit of industry for the quality of all services and goods.

What then is the future of labour?

The future of labour is neither in capitalism nor socialism.

We need a new WORLD ORDER to govern work and workers.

The future of labour is FAIRNESS.

All labour policies should reflect fairness.

The call for fair trade is a Godly one.

And for as long as there is no fair trade in the world, unjust income inequalities and poverty will continue, and as merely a push towards the required default setting of all life, pilferage, conflict and war will never end.

Note that when the employer and employee are in conflict, the factory suffers, and eventually, both are destroyed.

Therefore, the new or future economic order of the world must be founded on OBEDIENCE.

Each one his just share.

Obedience leads to harmony.

And all human success is only a product of obedience.

We are pilgrims.
We glow.
Follow us.

All people must work. Or die.
Ever wondered why the mortality rates are frighteningly high in Zambia?

Yes, all culture that is not in conformity with and departs from Universal DICTATES will fail.

Take heed.

AFRICOM – MY REFLECTION! – Hon Mutotwe KAFWAYA

Lunte PF Member of Parliament Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya writes….

AFRICOM – MY REFLECTION!

We are living in very interesting times.

Modernity advanced by widespread technological development has made it easier for many to perceive what is happening in and around us.

Right now, our country is waiting for outcomes on a number of national issues of tremendous interest such as:

() the content of a private conversation between a Diamond tv journalist (Jonah) and the President. If at all it has already taken place or it is yet to. This conversation begun in public and it is of public interest – so we keep waiting.

() the DPP’s Oath of secrecy removal – we are granted to understand that the DPP has requested His Excellency the President to lift her oath of secrecy so that she can defend herself. So far, on this issue, we haven’t heard from Anthony or Hon Haimbe. These two colleagues are the only ones I have heard speaking on behalf of the President or Presidency – whether Hon Haimbe did so legitimately or illegitimately is a different matter.

AFRICOM is certainly the ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM. This undertaking has huge potential ramifications both for the country and the region at large.

I have observed that it has stimulated debate not only nationally but regionally as well. In this debate, I have not seen anyone submitting in favor of it. All national and regional submissions are against the establishment of this command.

This is the position of COLLECTIVE wisdom.

I am on the side of collective wisdom. To put it a little politically, what choice do I have when the people have said NO. And knowing very well that I am JUST a representative of the people.

When that foreign general announced this project, I was given to understand that the Zambian Government had agreed for AFRICOM to be established here in the country. If this is true, my advice to the Government will come in a mixed form of expressions and questions as below:

() please do not forget about ACCOUNTABILITY just because this is AFRICOM. The same Zambians who want Government to fight corruption, do not want AFRICOM established in their country. It may beneficial to listen and accept the will of the people.

Remember that as Government, you are accountable to the people who placed their sovereignty under your leadership.

If the Government decides to allow this project in spite of its utter rejection by the people, one or two questions or more may then beg answers:

() the people don’t want it, in whose INTEREST would it be established?

() could there be benefits to accrue to the Zambian people if the command is established? Why don’t we get a presentation from Government in this regard?

PATRIOTS – love their country. They always act in the best interest their country. My mother, who was a freedom fighter, taught me this early in life.

Hon Mutotwe KAFWAYA, MP

Restoring EVERYTHING PATRIOTIC.

THINGS THAT WENT WRONG FOR PF LEADING TO DOWNFALL

THINGS THAT WENT WRONG FOR PF LEADING TO DOWNFALL

By Isaac Mwanza

1. Davies Mwila

As an individual, Former PF Secretary General Davies Mwila is a good person but as a leader, he lagged way behind to keeping the PF intact during most crucial moment. No wonder his reappointment by the then PF President Lungu at the close of the PF General Conference felt like heavy blocks of ice had been poured on its members.

A party SG should be the most approachable and not behave like the most important person next to the President.

Ba UPND what do you learn from this?

2. Nkandu Luo

Very intelligent woman, first female professor but she was one of the despised leaders among the young literate population which had strong influence on young people generally. It didn’t need one to have gone to a university to not like ba Nkandu Luo, one only needed to hear opinions – right or wrong – from members of their community who made it to college or university that Luo was not a leader you would want next to the President. Her fights against Student Unions led by ZANASU – even on parliamentary floor – just sealed the perception. If Luo was a right leader, how come she didn’t not become Acting President after ECL resigned? Let’s leave it here for now.

Ba UPND do you genuinely think Nalumango would be an acceptable President to take over from HH in case of any eventuality, God forbid!

3. Presidential Handlers

The departure of most politically-minded handlers to the then President Lungu was left the Presidency heavily uninsulated from the shocks. Its not easy thing to change PS’s, Aides, and General staff at Plot 1, especially if you keep a set of these for too long. One only has to look at the kinds of staff that sorround the new USA President to understand why you need people political minds that are hands-on for staff that sorround you, especially in Africa politics.

Today, President Hichilema can decide to appoint any UPND IPS as his press aide but to what ends? Aides like Anthony Bwalya who understand the minds of their boss re more ideal in those political offices but you don’t need characters whose only goodness is the biggest smile in the Presidency.

3. Ministers

The last regime saw a set of Ministers who had, or at least, took Ministries as personal-to-holder basis. ECL type of leadership was to keep same people in same position for as long as he could but that was anticipated and actually turned out to be disastrous. Public offices must not feel or be seen like they are personal to holder. In the next few months, a lot of these former ministers will defect to UPND, for a reason everyone will understand but that is politics.

Ministers are supposed to be advisors to the President and not the ones to take instructions from handlers to the President. They must be the ones to tell him that “boss you naked”. But do you think Ministers in this government can be honest and frank with the President to tell him that don’t embarass yourself to say immunity agreements are wrong because from Shamwana times, the DPP office has executed immunity agreements?

4. Free-flow government

When government is run on a free-flow basis, things can get so our of hand. PS’s, directors, almost everyone was believed by the public as doing what pleases him or her, so long u dont cross path with the big guys who called shots.

PF and judicial capture

0

The Mast Editorial Comment : PF and judicial capture

According to Lamar S Smith, “Judicial abuse occurs when judges substitute their own political views for the law.”

The story about our judiciary under Edgar Lungu’s leadership remains a sad tale whenever it is told. It is a story only typical of a criminal enterprise where survival is for the fittest.

Who can argue against the United States government’s report that the Zambian judiciary was influenced by that Patriotic Front in cases it had an interest.

According to the 2021 Country Report on Human Rights Practices in Zambia made available by the US Embassy in Lusaka, under Edgar Lungu’s regime there were lengthy detentions without trial and defendants were not informed promptly of charges against them.

“The Constitution provides for the right to a fair and public trial, but the judicial system was influenced by the ruling party in cases in which it had an interest,” reads the report in part. “While the law provides the right to a presumption of innocence, to be informed promptly of charges, and to be present at a fair and timely trial, these rights were not consistently protected… and the overburdened and insufficiently resourced judicial system led to lengthy and delayed trial procedures.”

Although the findings highlighted in this report are not entirely new, we appreciate the fact that these atrocities committed during Edgar’s administration on his fellow citizens were noticed globally. Of particular interest is the way Edgar and his associates captured the judiciary, among many other state institutions. Just as the US report has observed, cases in which Edgar and his cronies had an interest would take shocking twists. In some instances, suspects had their companies liquidated under a heavy political arm, regardless of what the law prescribed. Thereafter, their properties were immediately seized by police in non-procedural circumstances – sometimes even ignoring court injunctions. Others were slapped with weird charges that could not be explained at law. Not even a law student would entertain that. Added to that, we were treated to a new phenomenon of consent judgments. What about the infamous Lawfare!

PF operatives, in collusion with judges and lawyers, entered consent judgments for themselves, sidelining litigants. They were just waiting for legal suits from their challengers and later manipulate records with the help of judges and ordinary court officials. In fact, some judges were known for such decisions, to the extent that the public would always predict the outcome if a case where PF had an interest found itself in the hands of such a judge. And the outcome was always as people had predicted.

We all remember how a calculating – scheming – Edgar’s regime, having succeeded Michael Sata as the country’s sixth president, made sure he hounded out then Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito after dragging him to Chongwe like a common criminal under stupid charges that could only stand in a kangaroo court such as theirs. Next, Edgar appointed judges to the Constitutional Court in February 2016, whose qualifications were in question. Majority of the ConCourt decisions have been received with suspicion – highly problematic. State Counsel John Sangwa, a renowned constitutional lawyer, did a critic of each of the ConCourt judges, which none of them has disputed up to now. And the evidence attesting to their incompetence is plenty through most of the judgments they have made since 2016 to date. Apart from that, our courts started charging exorbitant fees for cash bails. For example, Chishimba Kambwili who was their bitter enemy at some point was made to pay K300,000 cash by magistrate David Simusamba in order for him to secure bail in some criminal matter. He was later cleared of this matter and many other charges after he returned to the PF and started spreading hate speech against Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND. In short, the PF and cartels had mastered the art of lawfare.

We are strongly convinced that even now such cartels are there.

It is even annoying that these characters in PF are today claiming to be mistreated when they are enjoying rights which they never accorded anyone. Today they have the freedom to mock law enforcement officers at will. They get arrested in one instance and within minutes they are granted police bond or bail from the courts of law. Did they ever do this to anyone? Certainly not.

To date, we still doubt if Zambians will ever win a case of political nature involving PF surrogates in the Constitutional Court, for example. By public perception, the Constitutional Court still remains in PF hands. No wonder others are now jumping the High Court to go straight to the Constitutional Court over outright human rights issues.

We need serious judicial reforms like yesterday. In fact, these should start by reviewing qualifications of some judges at the time they were appointed, all the way to the judgment(s) they have made so far. A tribunal is needed within this year to handle these issues. And this tribunal should not be headed by any of the local judges because most of them are highly compromised. We can get judges from other Commonwealth countries. We just have to clean up our judiciary. And the report from the US is a wakeup call to all of us, including the new dawn administration, to never allow such rot take place or be perpetuated in our country again.

A new slate means doing away completely with evils of the past. No more schemes. Let the rule of law be followed to the letter.

22 YEARS AGO I WAS A SECURITY GUARD FOR TD JAKES (Bishop Tomas Dexter Jakes, Dallas Texas USA) – MUBITA NAWA

Allow me to share part of my story. One of the reasons I enjoy sharing my stories is so that other people can feel normal and human too.

I arrived in Dallas Texas USA 🇺🇸 on December 25th 1999. It was Christmas day and all shops were closed. My Friend Josephine Malama Wilder had arranged that a friend of hers Hazel Muntemba would pick me up. Hazel also sent another friend to pick me up by the name of Patrick. Both Hazel and Patrick would be amazing lifetime friends. Josephine remains a great friend to date.

One of the reasons I enjoy pulling others up is that I am a product of other peoples effort. Someone else opened a door for me and I must also open doors for others.

Before going to America, I was a successful young banker who lived along a beautiful street and I already had properties of my own. But something was not right. I needed a new beginning. I needed a new start. America was calling.

So I enrolled at Dallas Baptist University where I went to study Business Administration. My boss at the international office at Dallas Baptist University was Mrs. Rebecca Brown. An amazing kind, cultured and good natured leader. She helped me settle down amidst cultural shock 😲. I sponsored myself to America 100%.

A day after arriving in Dallas I visited The Potters House Church in Dallas. This was the main reason I was in America. To meet a man called TD Jakes. This led to my seven and half year experience of serving a great man. TD Jakes did not turn me into a man. He simply turned me into a believer of the man God designed me to be. TD Jakes, his wife and family and the entire Potters House were my midwifery team.

TD Jakes helped me see myself for who I was, who I could be and who I was destined be. You need a mentor. Let me be your accountability partner.

For seven years I studied the world’s richest preacher. For seven years I was under the wings of a millionaire……. to be continued.

Tomorrow I start a class with those who want to learn great lessons harvested from great leaders.

Invest In Life Outside The Civil Service – HH Tells Civil Servants

INVEST IN LIFE OUTSIDE THE CIVIL SERVICE – HH

…… tells civil servants

President Hakainde Hichilema says his government is aware that civil servants have life outside the service and that needs to be taken care off when one is energetic with a lot of opportunities.

He said that his government is working towards civil servants’ access to their pension fund whilst they are still energetic and productive.

“ Your government is working towards reforming the pension system to benefit retirees and the would be retirees.” said President Hichilema.

He said some of the reforms include paying of workers part of their retirement package while they are working and ensuring that money is not abused but used to sustain one’s livelihood.

The President has also assured workers that the UPND Administration is still standing by its promise for workers to access their pension funds before they retire.

And President Hichilema has that said the trend by some Pension Houses to buy land from friends or politicians at high value using pensioners’ money should come to an end and must be stopped .

He said if these reforms are not implemented by the Minister of labour, government may go to parliament to legislate.

He has also encouraged Zambians, especially workers to start investing in agriculture and other areas of their interest even before they retire.

He said Zambians should not demonise investment because it instills a spirit of self reliance and not tulyemo.

The head of State said the country’s economy can only grow when citizens start to invest into the economy like he did year’s back.

“There is no need to demonise entrepreneurship especially in agriculture because countries like Botswana have prospered because of cattle.” said President Hichilema.

Mr Hichilema has encouraged workers to find time and invest in areas outside their professional interests like agriculture and ranching.

Mr Hichilema said workers should invest in ranching and start with two or three cows so that during their retirement, the cows would have multiplied.

He, however said that in the process of investment, they will have to exercise patience and see their investments come to fruition as they retire.

KK was a political mystic – Mwamba

By Charles Tembo

UNIP says Dr Kenneth Kaunda felt God as a part of him and in moments of crisis reverted instinctively in prayer to the passionate simplicity the old religion had taught him.

Party president Trevor Mwamba said for Dr Kaunda, Zambia’s first president, God was a presence not a philosophical concept.

Bishop Mwamba said this in his Public Lecture dubbed ” Kenneth Kaunda: A Political Mystic” to mark the commemoration and opening of the Kenneth Kaunda Day on Thursday at the University of Zambia.

He said Dr Kaunda was a great statesman who was colossal on the political world stage and a great pan Africanist and peacemaker.

Bishop Mwamba said Dr Kaunda was a political mystic and his calling was to a higher power in tune with the infinite God.

“For president Kaunda God was a presence not a philosophical concept. He was aware of this presence, even in solitude, that he was not alone; that his cries for help or comfort or strength were heard. Above all, his belief in God gave him a feeling of unlimited responsibility. He acknowledged that he was a guardian rather than owner of such powers and talents as he possessed, answerable for his use or abuse of them to the one who had loaned them to him and would one day require a full reckoning. The sense of responsibility seemed to be a great burden but at least it freed him from worrying too much about popularity or fame,” he said. “Let’s dwell a little longer on the spirituality of president Kaunda to appreciate how significantly it influenced his decisions as a politician. President Kaunda felt God as a part of him and in moments of crisis reverted instinctively in prayer to the passionate simplicity the old religion had taught him. He believed that the spiritual dimension was an integral part of the human personality. And that if it was not developed or nurtured, it did not disappear but rather became corrupt and immoral. And could be destructive in later life as an immoral force.”

Bishop Mwamba said Dr Kaunda’s faith also made him respect and appreciate other religions.

“In president Kaunda his integrity was clearly reflected in foreign affairs. There are two attributes which comprehensively characterised him. First, his commitment to principles, secondly, his courage to take risks if he believed it would be helpful, without worrying about what others said. Accordingly, Zambia’s foreign policy was grounded on clear principles which were applied across the board. If the action of another country violated a particular principle, Zambia condemned or voted against that country, irrespective of who that country was,” noted Bishop Mwamba. “If meeting an enemy was deemed necessary to help resolve a problem (such as liberation, or advancing prospects for peace) president Kaunda did not shy away out of fear of being thought of as a traitor.”

Why Kambwili Does Not Qualify To Be PF President

WHY KAMBWILI DOES NOT QUALIFY TO BE PF PRESIDENT

The Scoop Editorial: May 1, 2022

CHISHIMBA Kambwili’s handlers should have advised him accordingly before he even attempted to ditch the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rejoin the Patriotic Front (PF). What has devoured Mr. Kambwili is making decisions out of emotions and an alleged appetite for leadership.

Take it from us, Kambwili is a political bulldozer. When he speaks, people listen. When he has facts on his fingertips, he is uncontrollably irritating and difficult to handle. He makes you hobble like a berserk, demon possessed individual.

He exposes you without care and these are the people we need in the opposition to offer credible checks and balances and not this madongodongo we are seeing today but how one manages his abilities is what matters as this can be the biggest weakness. This is where Kambwili has lamentably failed either because he does not want to be controlled, or his handlers fail to tell him the truth.

Mr. Kambwili founded the NDC so that he could topple the PF and grab the leadership of this country from them and he was on firm course had he continued but he wobbled. He went into an alliance with the UPND but when his desires were not met, again he jumped ship without realising the dark side of such a poorly-thought-out decision.

Of course the PF welcomed him back with open arms because they knew he was an important nuisance to them winning the 2021 election as they could use him to damage the UPND’s reputation, a few months before the 2021 elections. His agenda and the PF’s agenda fitted perfectly well into each other.

The message was clear; preach about hate speech, tribalism, regionalism, and President Hakainde Hichilema’s alleged filthy hands over privatisation. Choppers were arranged for him and all logistics put in place to make sure he canvassed the length and breadth of the country, spewing tribalism and hate speech.

Whatever was agreed behind the closed doors about his personal benefit if the PF had won, we are not privy to it but definitely, something big was up for him, not to talk about taking over the leadership of the PF from Edgar Lungu. What Kambwili failed to see was the fact that the same UPND he was insulting could win an election and that if that happened, all his ambitions would ground to a halt.

He overrated his capability and threw reason to the pigs. He took the bull by its horns and trumpeted his importance and the sins of the UPND were laid bare to electorates. By August 10, he was convinced that he had met his objective and sure that his ambitions had been realised.

When election results started streaming in, that is when it dawned on him that Nebuchadnezzar was out grazing with the cows next door and the chickens had come home to roost. But him, being Kambwili the so-called young-cobra as he likes to equate himself to late Michael Sata, started pushing his agenda to lead the PF.

We don’t wish to remind you what happened on October 28, 2021 at the memorial service of late Sata at Embassy Park. He may have pretended he did not know what was happening but we have walked this political path before. He wanted to turn the whole event into a political rally but when he realised that his perceived enemies were in no mood for political mayhem, he retreated his cadres and played ignorance.

He has done a lot of ground work in preparing for the General Conference and we can attest to the fact that among all PF presidential hopefuls, he commands a large following and given a chance to take a shot, he can win the party presidency, no doubt.

However, what he forgot was the party constitution which he was at the centre of crafting since he claims he is a founder member of the party. Here is why Kambwili does not qualify to stand as presidential candidate for the PF when and if the general conference will be held:

Article 52 (10) of the PF constitution says a member of the party shall not be qualified as a candidate for the office of the president of the party unless he has been a member of the party for five (5) years immediately preceding the nomination and he is qualified under the Constitution of Zambia for election to the office of the President of Zambia.

Kambwili may be a founding member of the PF but was he still a member of the PF after being expelled? Was he still a member when he formed an opposition party called NDC? Was he still a PF member when joined hands with the UPND against the PF? The answer is no. He only became a member again on May 1, 2021 when he rejoined the party. You can argue but truth will remain and no sane court would rule that he was a member during the time he went away.

We all know that Kambwili only played the Prodigal Son exactly a year ago today and is four years shy of meeting the five-year requirement as stipulated by the party constitution. So, regardless of the outcome of yesterday’s Central Committee meeting, Kambwili does not qualify to stand as PF presidential hopeful. He lacks this basic requirement.

We have always told Kambwili to not only slow down but also tone down. When you talk too much and refuse to listen to anyone, this is what you end up being. It was perceived greed that made Kambwili get kicked out of the PF in the first place. It was perceived greed that drove him to UPND after forming the NDC and the same perceived greed kicked him out.

It was perceived greed that drove him back to PF and now he finds himself licking his self-inflicted wounds of failure to achieve what he wanted to achieve. In his career, Kambwili has injured a lot of people through his regional and tribal politics.

As a matter of fact, most PF members now feel he contributed so much to the PF losing elections last year because Zambians were tired of divisive politics but he maintained that what he was talking about was the truth.

He insisted he would continue talking about the truth until Zambians realise how the Tongas in UPND could not work with the Bembas and other tribes and projecting himself as one of the victims. Where has it taken him now?

The same PF he fervently spoke for to spread tribal divisions today can’t offer him a platform all because he ignored smaller details in his decision making process. So, where to now bamunyinane? Back to the NDC which is also embroiled in confusion? Stick with the PF as an ordinary nobody, or form another political party? We are waiting banene!

Hichilema is a security threat to SADC and Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity- Linda Tsungirirai Masarira

Press | Statement: AFRICOM Is Imperialism Of Africa And It Has Always Been Coming Ever Since Hichilema Took Over The Reigns In Zambia.

Lusaka – 1st May, 2022.

The current government of Zambia led by President Hakainde Hichilema is a security threat to SADC and Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity. Zimbabweans must be wary of the US maneuvers in Zambia as they pose a great threat to national and regional security as well as sovereignty of all SADC states.

I call upon all the Zambian people to resist such betrayal before America turns the rest of Africa into the current state of Libya. As the President of Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats,

I vehemently condemn the US-Africa Command Office of Security Cooperation in Zambia as it is a direct threat to Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity. US is fighting to democratize Africa to control Africa and it’s resources.

They are fully aware that leaders without a military background are gullible and easy to manipulate. The US is clandestinely invading Africa in the the new scramble for Africa agenda.

This is imperialism of Africa and it has always been coming ever since Hichilema took over the reigns in Zambia. This move is posing a security threat to the African continent and not only is it going to cause instability in Southern Africa through inviting the American Enemies to attack Southern Africa.

America has numerous enemies and having military offices in Zambia attracts Islamic Terrorist attacks and creates a launchpad for the US to carry out regime change invasion on countries that are not agreeing with it’s foreign policy and Zimbabwe is number one target because of its stance of land and black economic Empowerment.

This move was first resisted by Thabo Mbeki in 2006 when they wanted to establish a similar office in Botswana. It is appalling that Hichilema is naive and has no understanding of the history and geopolitical context of Africa and the complexities of decolonization. Hichilema is selling out the struggles of founding fathers of Zambia Kenneth Kaunda and the Frontline States principles.

Zambia suffered the brutal attacks from the colonial Smith Regime who unleashed brutal force at Freedom camp and Mukushi, killing hundreds of Zimbabwean liberation war fighters that were housed by Zambia. In all honesty,

Kenneth Kaunda should be turning in his grave to see this happening now. What Hichilema is doing is a betrayal of fellow African countries and is creating a room for proxy wars that ravaged Middle North Africa and the Middle east countries like Libya and Syria.

The SADC troika and SADC heads of state must educate him of the risks that he is dragging Zambia into by allowing himself to be the Zelensky of Southern Africa. Government of Zimbabwe should put more effort into uniting the people of Zimbabwe and boosting the morale of the security sector.

President Mnangagwa should play an active role into uniting SADC states against the impending recolonization of Africa which is being launchpadded in Zambia. History has a way of repeating itself,

Zambia was used a a benchmark of the liberation of all SADC states and the neocolonialists agenda of the new scramble for Africa has strategically planned the recolonization agenda of Africa starting from Zambia.

This is a real cause of concern to all SADC states which must not be taken lightly. In conclusion, Yes. President ED Mnangagwa is his capacity as Head of State should engage his counterpart in Zambia President H Hichilema and counsel him on the historical context and the implications of AFRICOM presence in the SADC region,

fellow Liberation movements in the SADC region should engage each other and find a way of dealing with this impending threat of neo colonialism and regional security.

Kwame Nkrumah: why, every now and then, his legacy is questioned

0

Like many great men, the legacy of Ghana’s independence hero is not uncontested.

The Conversation
Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana to independence in 1957 – the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to achieve this feat. He’s still remembered for his unrepentant anti-colonial stance and strident Pan-Africanism. Above all, he is regarded as one of Africa’s ablest statesmen of the 20th century.

Nkrumah has been ranked among leaders such as Vladimir Lenin, Mahatma Gandhi and Mao Tse-Tsung. All contributed significantly in shaping the course of history during the last five decades of the 20th century.

Nkrumah’s rise in the anti-colonial movement in Ghana, then called the Gold Coast, began in the late 1940s. Before then he had spent almost 15 years in the US and the UK studying.

By the mid-1940s political activism in the Gold Coast was taking a radical turn. Political agitation had compelled the colonial administration to introduce constitutional reforms that gave Africans a majority of seats on the colonial Legislative Council.

By 1947 there were only two political organisations: the Gold Coast People’s League and the Gold Coast National Party. Both were ineffectual, weighed down by ethnocentric divisions between the Akan and the Ga, and dominated by lawyers and wealthy merchants.

Nevertheless, on 4 August 1947 the two parties agreed to form one organisation they called the United Gold Coast Convention. The hope was that they would lead the struggle for independence by providing a united front that appealed to all Ghanaians.

But the leaders of the new party were all successful professionals and business people who had little time to run the party. So nobody objected when a leading member Ako Adjei suggested that Nkrumah, who was living in London at the time, should be invited to become the party’s full-time secretary.

This invitation, according to one commentator “proved a tragic error” – for Nkrumah would become their most dreaded rival and ideological opponent.

Intellectual influences and contested legacy

Nkrumah was an avowed Marxist-socialist. He was exposed to several intellectual influences that shaped and conditioned his political ideas. During his stay in the US he immersed himself in the reading of the political theories of Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin and Marcus Garvey. These theories, especially Marxism-Leninism, profoundly affected his intellectual and ideological dispositions. Garvey’s influence, suggests, Dr Kojo Afari Gyan, an academic and a former electoral commissioner of Ghana, was largely inspirational.

Like many great men, Nkrumah’s legacy is not uncontested. His detractors accuse him of progressively running down Ghana’s economic gains at independence, gagging the press, curtailing the freedom of speech and being an authoritarian.

His detractors still deeply resent the fact that he imposed a one party state and passed laws that landed his opponents in jail.

But if there are any merits in these criticisms – and perhaps there are – we should agree with Dr Peter Omari, a former executive director of the African Centre for Applied Research and Training in Social Development, that Ghanaians must take some of the blame for allowing one man so much scope that they could virtually be enslaved through fear and cowardice.

Omari also notes that, however Ghanaians might judge Nkrumah, they ought not to forget that he was a true reflection of the Ghanaian personality – good and bad.

All these controversies have led, every now and again, to his legacies being questioned and debated.

Stewardship
Nkrumah arrived in the Gold Coast on 14 November 1947. He immediately assumed his secretarial duties, offering to work without pay after he realised that the party had no funds to pay his monthly salary. Eventually, the leadership prevailed on him to accept a fraction of the salary.

Nkrumah immediately drew up a detailed, radical plan which he presented to the leadership of the United Gold Coast Convention. He suggested that the party set up branches in every corner of the country and embarks on demonstrations, strikes and boycotts to press for independence.

His approach appealed to some of the leaders. Others were apprehensive.

Nonetheless, Nkrumah set his plan in motion. New branches were set up and resources mobilised to the party. He paid particular attention to young people who were disappointed with the status quo and were looking for an avenue to vent their frustration at their chiefs and the colonial administration.

But before the close of 1948, cracks had developed in the relationship between Nkrumah and the party leadership. He was accused of being complicit in riots that resulted in the detention of the leaders, Nkrumah himself included.

From this point their mistrust of Nkrumah heightened. For his part, Nkrumah too became estranged from the views of the leadership.

Breaking ranks
The difference in aim, philosophy and political strategy eventually compelled Nkrumah to break ranks and form the Convention People’s Party in 1949. By this time, he had toured almost every part of the country. And because of his affability, oratory skills and his identification with the struggles of ordinary people, he’d endeared himself to the youth who became his main supporters.

As David Rooney, the historian and author, has observed, Nkrumah roused the youth with his

fiery oratory, slept on their verandas…shared their hardships …captivated them with his charm, enthusiasm and passion. He inflamed the people with demands for self-government now.

This was what the leadership of the United Gold Coast Convention lacked. They were unable to relate to ordinary people and their views on political change were, in Rooney’s words,

dispensed with condescension from an aloof aristocratic pinnacle.

The formation of the Convention People’s Party leapfrogged Nkrumah into the leadership of the independence struggle and changed the course of Ghana’s history. The party injected a new sense of urgency into the fight for independence. Not even Nkrumah’s association with communism and the castigation of his followers as hooligans could stop the party’s progress and Nkrumah’s march towards political independence.

Nkrumah pulled the political rug from under the feet of the leadership of the United Gold Coast Convention and fired up the passion and enthusiasm of the country’s young people in the fight for independence.

From then on he was viewed as the father of the independence movement, and after independence the father of modern Ghana.

HPCZ Should Rescind The Decision To Reintroduce Licensure Exams – Dr. Brian Sampa

0

By Dr. Brian Sampa

HPCZ SHOULD RESCIND THE DECISION TO REINTRODUCE LICENSURE EXAMS.

For the following reasons;

1. HPCZ has got no constitution mandate to assure quality. Its the Higher Education Authority(HEA) which is tasked to do so.

2. Competence of a person can not be determined in one exam. Most importantly the quality of graduates doesn’t solely depend on the students but lecturers and other factors.

3. HPCZ has got no other major source of income after the enactment of the higher education authority act of 2021 which moved registration, accreditation and quality assurance of health universities and colleges from HPCZ to HEA.So they want to use exams as a source of income.

4. It is a political trap to limit the number of health workers who will be available on the market at a particular time. Its bound to be used by the politicians to control how many people can qualify for employment at a given time and stop the embarrassment of having 137,000 people applying against 11,276 jobs.

5. Introduction of Licensure exams by HPCZ means that higher education authority is failing in it’s quality assurance. So HPCZ doesn’t trust the works of HEA.

6. The constitution only allows HPCZ to examine those trained outside the country to ascertain the education standards they trained under.

7. HPCZ did not respect the result of the consultative meeting which was held with associations. The decision was already made immediately HPCZ noticed that it’s mandate was reduced to giving licenses after the enactment of the HEA act.

Our Proposal

If HPCZ feels HEA is producing incompetent graduates not fit to be given practicing licenses let them advise HEA and see how they can monitor how people are being trained in these institutions. It starts with the quality of lecturers, selection criteria of students and curriculum. They could aswel introduce standardized examinations at different levels during their training so that the progression is monitored.Otherwise the said exams are I’ll intended.

PF Constitution Does Not Allow Kambwili and Emmnuel Mwamba To Attend And Contest The PF Presidency

PF CONSTITUTION DOES NOT ALLOW KAMBWILI AND MWAMBA TO ATTEND AND CONTEST THE PF PRESIDENCY
Here is why

PF GENERAL CONFERENCE FUNCTIONS AND ATTENDES

PF GENERAL Conference’s major function is to elect the party president as well as members of the Central Committee (MCCs), formulate and revise party policies and programmes, amend or adopt party constitution among others.

All MCCs, MPs (Members of the National Council), provincial and district secretaries, district chaipersons, committee members of the women and youth leagues and senior officers from secretariat possible attendees to the Conference.

Qualification to be PF president is under Article 52 (10) and one has to have been a member of the party for five (5) years immediately preceding the nomination and is qualified under the Constitution of Zambia for election as Republican president.

Now does Chishimha Kambwili and Emmnuel Mwamba qualify to contest the PF presidency?

it seems not.

Critical analysis reveals that the two may not be qualified or even attend the General Conference unless under special arrangement.

CK joined PF on may 2 May 2021 from NDC which will make him 1 year old in PF tomorrow, 2nd May 2022.

He is barely a year in PF at the time of the Conference in June 2022, he may be only 1year and one month old.

He has not yet clocked 5 years preceding the nomination as per demands of Article 62 of the PF Constitution.

For Ba Emma, has been a civil servant until 2021 also when he was recalled from diplomatic tour of duty.

He also has not clocked 5 years as a member of the party to contest the presidency.

Unfortunately, both are not MCCs or MPs or Provincial and District Chairperson or secretaries or women or youth league members or members of the secretariat even to attend the General Conference.

Unless the PF Constitution is changed at the General Conference, the presidential race has been left to Brian Mundubile, Kafwaya, Given Lubinda among others yet to be known since lodgement of intention can be done even a day before the General Conference.

CK and Ba EMMA are individuals who don’t meet the current provisions of the PF Constitution for party presidential contests.

Kambwili And Emmanuel Mwamba Form A Pact Under NDC Ahead Of The 2026 Elections

0

KAMBWILI AND MWAMBA FORM A PACT UNDER NDC AHEAD OF THE 2026 ELECTIONS

Details of the consultative meeting between PF Presidential aspirants Chishimba Kambwili and Emmanuel Mwamba this morning have emerged where they have agreed to combine efforts and defeat both the UPND and the PF under the umbrella of the NDC.

According to the ongoing discussions, the two leaders have so far resolved to make one of them the Presidential candidate while the other one will be the running mate.

But this arrangement has not sat well with staunch NDC leaders such as the acting President Saboi Imboela who feels betrayed after holding the party for sometime now.

“Yes in principle the two leaders have agreed a joint working agreement because they feel sidelined by the PF. You noticed from yesterday’s PF Central Committee resolutions where both Kambwili and Mwamba were again sidelined in appointments. You even heard former Secretary General Davies Mwila stormed out of the meeting claiming the appointments were undemocratic and unconstitutional. Of course Davies Mwila is just being a hypocrite because even him has never been elected by any organ of the party. So things stand now, based onyesterday’s appointments, both Kambwili and Mwamba are not even sure if they will be allowed to attend the convention and contest”, insiders have revealed.

Kambwili is now in the process of reclaiming his NDC being run by caretaker President Saboi Imboela and bring onboard all those who feel sidelined by the current PF leadership.

“We have a big problem in our PF party which is still remotely being controlled by former President Edgar Lungu. Actually even Given Lubinda is just being used. Boss Lungu has already settled for Mporokoso MP Brian Mundubile to take over the PF Presidency. The boss (Edgar Lungu) wants to impose someone he thinks is too loyal to him with a possibility of coming back as PF candidate in 2026,” those close to the discussions have revealed.

Yesterday, Kambwili issued scathing attacks on the acting NDC President Saboi Imboela calling her very unreliable.

I Would Have Loved To Stay Out Of Zambia Until The End Of HH’s Tenure – ZDDM President Edwin Sakala

I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO STAY OUT OF ZAMBIA UNTIL THE END OF HH’s TENURE – SAKALA

Edwin Sakala who heads a political party he calls ZDDM has written a very long statement to us.

In the statement Sakala who is Richard Sakala of Daily Nation brother among other things says if he had dual citizenship he would have left Zambia during the tenure of President Hakainde Hichilema.

Sakala also says many Zambians including UPND Cadres are disappointed with the leadership of Hichilema or HH as he is commonly called.

Below is part of Sakala’s statement who actually accuse Zambian Eye of supporting UPND:

If some of us had dual citizenship we were going to consider the option of leaving Zambia for the duration that my friend and Brother President Hakainde Hichilema remain in power because it is clear that the mindset of my Brother is dangerously fixed far beyond national development and addressing the plight of the majority population of Zambians whose lives are negatively affected by the social and economic hardships.

ENOUGH is ENOUGH
In National interest we are not afraid that they can kill us or lock us up for opening our mouth . As a party we understands the UPND thinking very well and fully aware what this party is capable of doing to hold on to power but whatever it does will not bend the will of the people of Zambia .

As clearly demonstrated at the last press conference in State house the President was more concern about fixing leaders of the previous government under the so called fight against corruption than addressing the plight of citizens who are now living in fear as the crime rate is dangerously high and the economic hardships are getting deeper by the day in spite of the miraculously high risen price of copper.

He almost ignored a question on what immidiate measures the government was taking to address the worsening economic hardships the ordinary citizens are facing.

Our party believes that the priority for the UPND seem to be settling scores for the perceived injustices their president suffered under the previous government and the historic injustice they have as a people suffered from as far back as 1962 when some believe that they were robbed of national leadership after funding and facilitating the Freedom fighters trips to London for the Lanchester independence negotiations.

There seem to be an underlying anger that power was handed to Dr Kaunda instead of Harry Mwaanga Nkhumbula who played a key role in Zambia gaining independence is still fresh. Over the years the feeling of having been robbed has continued.

What should worry God fearing and peace loving Zambians the most is that not even the Church in Zambia is telling President Hakainde Hichilema the simple truth that Zambians are more interested in seeing an end to their suffering and lack of security in society and not his agenda of witch hunting PF leaders .Whenever they see or hear the president speak all that they pick is his ” hate” for the previous government.

Of course there are a few evil minded people in Zambia living under the ” Demonic sin , bondage of hate and tribalism” who seem to share his visible hate for the previous government but most of the people who wore the Red UPND Tshirts as a sign of support are too ashamed to wear them and even regretting the outcome of the August 12 election results .

For us as a party we are happy that the events of the past eight months have helped Zambians to think above tribe and party. The false hope that the UPND gave them has made Zambian’s realise that their problems are the same. The effects of the economic hardships , shortage of drugs in medical facilities , alarming rise in crime in society , high unemployment, disappointment with political lies , shortage of burial land etc don’t choose tribe hence the risen realisation of the need for God fearing Zambians to anchor their trust in God and not man.

Prepare To Pack And Go In 2026 If You Don’t Reduce Cost Of Living, Wright Musoma Warns HH

PREPARE TO PACK AND GO IN 2026 IF YOU DON’T REDUCE COST OF LIVING, BALLY WARNED

May 1, 2022

By Daily Star Reporter

In case the President hasn’t realized, since he came into office, almost nine months ago, the lives of Zambians have become more and more unbearable, Wright Musoma has claimed.

The Zambia Republican Party president warned that giving out of his salary and other things will not help President Hakainde Hichilema to stay in office.

Musoma said in an interview with Daily Star that Zambians expect President Hichilema to fix the economy as he promised prior to elections last year.

He further claimed that the lives of Zambians are worse off than they were eight months ago.

“The Zambian people are expecting President Hichilema to fix the economy as per his promise so that the price of meali meal comes down to K50, the price of fertilizer to K200, the price of fuel to come down to K12 and other essential commodities. Minus that, the President should begin to prepare to pack and go in 2026,” he said.

“Giving out of his salary and other things will not help him. In any case, President Hakainde Hichilema and the Zambian people know very well that his children do not need jobs from government. What can his salary do to 20,000 Zambians who are wallowing in poverty? In case the President hasn’t realized, since he came into office, almost nine months ago, the lives of Zambians have become more and more unbearable.”

The opposition leader said politicians should stop insulting the intelligence of the Zambians.

He however called on the Head of State to end nepotism, “a situation where people from a certain region are getting key governance positions.”

“The people of Zambia don’t want this government to be prosecuting and persecuting selectively their perceived enemies. They don’t want political witch-hunt of any form. They don’t want a situation where huge government contracts are being awarded to foreigners as was the case at ZESCO where ZESCO awarded contracts worth millions of dollars to foreigners at the expense of the black indigenous Zambians.”

Withdraw reckless US base deal, Lubinda asks UPND

Withdraw reckless US base deal, Lubinda asks UPND

By Kombe Mataka

THE speed with which the UPND government is turning Zambia into a colony of the West is a source of great concern, says acting PF president Given Lubinda

He has asked the UPND government “to withdraw from this reckless deal and focus on more progressive undertakings aimed at uniting and not dividing the world”.

Lubinda said in a Facebook Post that the granting of the US geographical areas for the establishment of US military presence in Zambia was a reckless deal which would turn Zambia into an automatic target of any country that is in a military conflict with Washington.

“Soon after being elected, they put much needed money belonging to Zambians in the bank accounts of western capitalists through the cancellation of mineral loyalty tax (MRT),” he said.

“Now only eight months in power, they are about to give away Zambia’s sovereignty to the America by giving large geographical areas for the establishment of USA military bases (AFRICOM). This will turn Zambia into an automatic target of any country that is in a military conflict with America.”

Lubinda noted that the announcement that Zambia had allowed the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) to open an “Office of Security Cooperation” at the US Embassy in Lusaka, came as the country was honouring Zambia’s founding president Kenneth Kaunda.

“This announcement coming on the day that we are honouring the Pan Africanist and beloved KK is most disheartening. The bodies of our founding mothers and fathers of Africa, must be turning in their graves when they see that their principled and visionary policy of non-alignment is thrown in the dustbin in exchange for temporary aggrandisement and power,” he said. “The security and safety of citizens of any country is the most fundamental responsibility of any reasonable government. The UPND government is hereby urged to withdraw from this reckless deal and focus on more progressive undertakings aimed at uniting and not dividing the world.”

The US is to set up an AFRICOM office in Lusaka.

The US government has also announced that since 2014, it has invested over K136 million ($8 million) in military assistance to Zambia for deployment to the United Nations Multidimensional Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The announcement was made by visiting AFRICOM deputy director for strategy, engagement, and programmes Brigadier General Peter Bailey.

Brig Gen Bailey visited President Hakainde Hichilema at State House on Tuesday.

“The US government announced the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) will open an Office of Security Cooperation at the US Embassy in Zambia,” the statement read in part.

The US added that building on the foundation of shared security interests between the two nations, the new Office of Security Cooperation would enhance military to military relations “and expand areas of cooperation in force management, modernisation, and professional military education for the Zambian security forces”.

The US said Brig Gen Bailey commended President Hichilema and his new dawn administration for its steadfast commitment to regional peace and stability.

He said the US government looked forward to building on its strong bilateral ties with Zambia to enhance security cooperation.

Consumers To Save About K150 Million From Reduced Fuel Pump Prices- Energy Expert

By Patricia Male/Balewa Zyuulu

Energy expert Johnstone Chikwanda says the announced reduced fuel pump price by the Energy Regulation Board –ERB-will save consumers about K150 million combined with the month of May 2022.

And Mr. Chikwanda has encouraged government to continue pursuing measures which will enhance fuel security and better prices, which will in turn reflect in the price of other commodities and transport charges.

In welcoming the reduced fuel pump prices by K2.35 ngwee by the ERB in the latest fuel price review, Mr. Chikwanda has attributed the reduction in prices to the appreciation of the kwacha against the us dollar and reduced crude oil prices on the international market following the intervention by the United States of America which is discharging fuel from its strategic petroleum reserves.

Mr. Chikwanda however says this is a temporal measure as the U.S cannot afford to deplete its strategic reserves for security reasons and will start restocking its strategic reserves thereby increasing demand for crude oil.

He adds that the situation on the global market still remains volatile due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and sanctions on Russian crude oil and refined fuel and calls for diplomatic efforts to continue to ensure a de-escalation of conflict is achieved and sanctions removed.

Meanwhile, Social Economist Kelvin Chisanga says the fluctuations being seen in oil prices on the international market will keep on oscillating between the gains and losses due to the sustained uncertainty, which has remained a key downside risk based on the assessment of global economic growth and its related projections.

He explains that oil prices have drastically reduced in the global pricing structure by a margin of about 6% mainly due to low demands emanating from china, and this led to some slow patterns observed in the movements of trade and commerce.

Mr Chisanga says the kwacha’s current moderate movements have strongly signified a very good positive outturn on many key economic fundamental factors as can be seen and yet to witness good transmission channel in prices of goods and services.

HH WILL FIX WITHIN HIS FIRST TERM WHAT PF DESTROYED IN 10 YEARS – IMENDA

LUNDAZI- 01/05/2022

VETERAN female politician from UNIP, through MMD days, Winnie Lukute of Chasefu district says there will be insignificant opposition from the former ruling party by the time President Hakainde Hichilema begins his second term of office.

Ms Lukute said she will ensure that all women in Chasefu join the UPND because there is no vengeance, but pure peace in President Hichilema.

And UPND secretary general, Batuke Imenda charged that President Hichilema will fix the ten year PF damage within the five year mandate of the New Dawn Government.

The ruling party CEO was speaking at two separate public meetings in Chasefu and Lundazi districts where scores of former ruling party members and other political parties joined the UPND.

And during a public meeting in Lundazi, former PF district youth chairperson, Bernard Ngulube, otherwise known as Commander Ben Kaloba went topless after surrendering party T-shirt and cap to Mr Imenda for he had no use for them anymore.

He said due to the PF voilent agenda, he and many others went into hiding for fear of the unknown when UPND won the August 12, 2021 elections.

However, Ben Kaloba was happy that the restoration of peace in Zambia by President Hichilema enabled him to come out from hiding in a ‘dark-hole.’

Another veteran politician, Chiukepo Ngwenya could not hide his joy and interspaced his brief address with dance.

Mr Ngwenya who joined UPND from MMD charged that the economy of ZAMBIA was in safe hands because Mr Hichilema is a visionary and sober leader.

And Mr Imenda’s working visit to Eastern Province has entered its fourth day.

If there’s no bread eat cassava – Museveni tells Ugandans

0

President Museveni Sunday advised Ugandans to eat cassava as alternative to bread whose price has gone up due to disruptions in wheat supply, dashing hopes of many vulnerable Ugandans who were still counting on his government to initiate short-term interventions to cushion them against the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

While addressing senior government officials, security operatives and workers’ representatives, among other Ugandans who gathered at Kololo ceremonial grounds to celebrate Labour Day, Mr Museveni said the skyrocketing prices were as a result of natural calamities like the pandemic and exacerbated by man-made external factors like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which have disrupted the global supply chain and created scarcity of products.
“If there is no bread eat mwogo (cassava). Africans really confuse themselves. You’re complaining that there’s no bread or wheat, please eat mwogo. I don’t eat bread myself,” Mr Museveni said.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mid this week warned that surging food and energy prices stoked by the war in Ukraine may lead to “social unrest” in Africa.
Most countries south of the Sahara are already seeing a slowdown in economic growth from last year, and the impact will be amplified by the rising cost of cereals and fuel, it said.

However, Mr Museveni says he’s not worried given that his government is not entirely doing nothing to save the situation.
“The issue of skyrocketing commodity prices like petrol, fertilizers, among other essential commodities, are man-made by our friends in Europe. We are trying to talk to them quietly. I’m not worried. We shall find solutions. We are quietly talking to Western Europe and Russia. We shall brief you (Ugandans) about what we are doing at the right time,” he said.

He further reiterated that the Parish Development Model (PDM), an initiative by government to uplift nearly 40 percent of Ugandans still stuck in subsistence production to commercial production will help create jobs as well as boost household income.
“Before we (NRM) came to power, only the few educated were rich and benefiting from government programmes while most of our people were poor. But we said no! If you sensitize them properly they can get out of poverty. We don’t want only the educated to benefit from government programmes. We want everyone to benefit from government programmes. The Parish Development Model should kick start us to have about 60 million workers,” Mr Museveni said.

In a veiled swipe at critics of the controversial coffee deal which ministry of Finance signed with Uganda Vinci Coffee Company (UVCC), Mr Museveni appealed to Ugandans to stop using a language that depict lack of enthusiasm for foreign investments in the country.
“I want to advise Ugandans that you can encourage the indigenous investors if they are there but do not show lack of enthusiasm for our investors from outside. No one can beat me in Africanism, but I welcome all investors,” he said.

According to him, the coffee debate is “very interesting.”

“I am even glad that people are putting their views in writing. They are attacking the coffee deal that it is bad. We are going to study you now that you have put your thoughts in black and white,” he added.- Daily Monitor

British MP resigns after being caught watching p0rn in the House of Commons; claims he stumbled across it when looking for tractors on a website

0

Neil Parish, a British politician, has resigned from parliament after confessing to watching porn in the House of Commons.

Parish, a Tory MP, was named as the mystery politician spotted watching pornographic video twice by two female colleagues during a meeting on Saturday, April 30.

Parish had earlier stated that he would not quit after being suspended from the parliamentary Conservative Party over the allegations, but he has since admitted to seeing porn by accident and stated that he is “not proud” of his actions.

He said the first time he viewed pornography was accidental as he wanted to look at tractors, but the second time was deliberate.

In an interview with BBC South West, he said: ‘The situation was that – funnily enough it was tractors I was looking at.

‘I did get into another website that had a very similar name and I watched it for a bit which I shouldn’t have done. But my crime – biggest crime – is that on another occasion I went in a second time.’

Asked if that was deliberate he said: ‘That was deliberate… that was sitting waiting to vote on the side of the chamber.’

He added: ‘What I did was absolutely wrong.’

‘I was wrong, I was stupid, I lost sense of mind,’ he said.

However, he denied watching the material in a way where he hoped other people would see it.

‘I make a full apology. A total full apology. It was not my intention to intimidate.’ he said.

‘I mean I have 12 years in Parliament and probably got one of the best reputations ever – or did have.’

When pressed on why he chose to view the material in the Commons, he said: ‘I don’t know, I think I must’ve taken complete leave of my senses and my sensibilities and my sense of decency, everything.’

He said he was ‘not defending what I did for one moment,’ arguing he thought the best thing he could do was to ‘tell the truth’.

Ignoring Putin’s nuclear threats, US boosts support for Ukraine

0

In rallying global arms supplies and asking Congress for $33 billion more to support Ukraine, Washington is choosing to ignore Vladimir Putin’s threats to use nuclear arms, and instead is openly testing the Russian leader’s limits.

After the United States brought 40 countries to a US base in Germany last week to discuss aid for Ukraine’s war with Russia, Putin on Wednesday threatened a “lightning fast” response if there is any direct intervention by outsiders on Kyiv’s behalf.

“We have all the tools for this, that no one else can boast of having. We won’t boast about it: we’ll use them, if needed,” Putin said.

It was a thinly veiled reference to Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons, which Russian military doctrine holds can be used to force an adversary to retreat.

Rather than pull back at that threat to unleash Moscow’s nuclear bombs, US President Joe Biden doubled down on US support for Ukraine.

The $33 billion he requested includes $20 billion for arms and munitions, nearly seven times the amount sent to the country since the Russians invaded on February 24.

No longer hiding support

Early in the war Washington worried that aggressively equipping Ukraine’s army with anything but “defensive” weaponry risked embroiling the US and NATO in a direct conflict with Russia.

Now, the Pentagon has shed those earlier inhibitions and is shipping offensive weapons like heavy artillery, helicopters and attack drones.

Rather than hiding it, the Pentagon also began openly talking this week about how it is training Ukrainian troops, including inside Germany, to use the weapons they are receiving.

And instead of saying, as it did in February, that it wants only to help Ukraine survive, Washington now says its goal in the war is to debilitate Russia for the long term.

“We want to see Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine,” US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said after a visit to Kyiv last week.

Shrugging off Moscow’s threat

Inside the US government, Putin’s nuclear threat is being shrugged off.

Biden and his top officials have labeled Moscow’s nuclear threats “irresponsible.”

“It shows the desperation that Russia is feeling about their abject failure in being able to do what they set out to do” in Ukraine, Biden said Wednesday.

On Friday, a senior US defense official said that even as the Pentagon constantly monitor’s Russia’s nuclear force, “We do not assess that there is a threat of the use of nuclear weapons and no threat to NATO territory.”

Lawrence Freedman, professor emeritus at King’s College in London, said there are no signs that Russia is preparing to use its nuclear or chemical weapons in the Ukraine conflict.

“Its threats are taken less seriously than before and it has nothing positive to offer. It is already a diminished power,” Freedman wrote on his blog.

That view was echoed by Gideon Rose of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.

“Moscow will not use nuclear weapons during the conflict,” said Rose.

Putin “knows that extraordinary retaliation and universal opprobrium would follow, with no remotely comparable strategic upsides to justify them,” he said.

Even if Biden has repeatedly said that US troops will not get directly involved in Ukraine, the surge in support has turned the conflict into a proxy war, Sam Winter-Levy, a warfare specialist at Princeton University, wrote on the website “War on the Rocks.”

“The West needs to be clear-eyed about the situation it confronts. It is currently waging a proxy war with Russia — one that poses very real risks of escalation,” he wrote.

Nevertheless, he said the current path “may still be the best option.”

“Ultimately, the only options worse than a proxy war are a cheap Russian victory in Ukraine – or a direct confrontation between Russia and the United States,” he said.

Bowman Lusambo Not Happy With New PF Central Committee Appointments

By Bowman Lusambo

As we rebrand, it’s time to consult the Elders

It’s almost 10 months since the Patriot Front lost power to the UPND. As expected, a lot has come with that loss of power. The party has now embarked on a rebranding exercise which has been welcomed across the length and breadth of the party.

As someone who has experienced loss of political power before, I wish to render my opinion on how the party could approach the next few years in opposition.

With everything going on within and outside the party, it is paramount that those in leadership, at the highest level of the party (the Central Committee) consult the elders of the party on its future in the short, medium to long term.

The PF spent many years in the opposition and in that period, it endeared itself to a lot of noble men and women who wanted to see it succeed. These people worked closely with founding President Michael Sata and some of them never even got rewarded for their gallantry. Some of those people are still around and can still be consulted on the next course of action for the PF.

These men and women have proven over the years that their interest is purely the wellbeing of the party. I wish to warn that going by the way appointments to the Central Commitee are being dished out even to underserving people, the PF will face a tumultuous time which will be difficult to recover from.

The list of Central Committee appointments are even more concerning that they have conveniently omitted key members who have publicly declared their intentions to run for the presidency of the party. I ask, why is Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya not on the list? Why is Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba not including on the list? Why is Hon. Chishimba Kambwili, one of the founder members of the PF not included on the list?

For the purposes of strengthening the party ahead of a very bumpy road, I wish to advise the party leadership to consider inviting Hon. Kafwaya, Ambassador Mwamba and Hon, Kambwili into the Central Committee. The trio is more deserving than those appointments that have been handed out as if they are decorations

PF Oppose the Establishment of a US Military Office in Zambia

THE PFs PARTY’S POSITION ON AFRICOM

The speed with which President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND Government are turning Zambia into a colony or appendage of the West is a great source of concern to all well-meaning Zambians. Without seeking any form of consensus or consultations, the UPND Government has unilaterally decided to station the US army on Zambian soil. What constitutional authority does Mr. Hichilema have to permit a foreign army to establish a military base or a military command centre on Zambian soil? Why were the Zambian people not consulted before such a monumental decision with far reaching consequences was made? America is at war with several nations and allowing them to set up a military base here in Zambia directly puts Zambia in harm’s way with all those fighting with America.

The sole interest of AFRICOM is to advance and protect the interests of America and not Zambia hence allowing the US to set up a military base or office in Zambia is unpatriotic and a breach of trust by those who have been entrusted with the authority to superintendent the affairs of the nation on behalf of the over 18 million Zambians. Can Zambia be allowed to set a military base or a military command centre in America? So why is Hichilema playing a puppet to the Western powers? Is it because of his desperation to clinch the ill-fated IMF deal or its his deep rooted naivety and lack of patriotism to the motherland? All Presidents before Hichilema had refused to allow America to set up a military command centre on our soil not only because they were firm believers of non-aligned diplomatic philosophy but because they were patriots who put the sovereignty and safety our nation above all other financial or material hand-outs from the West.

We are alive to the fact that Zambia is a part of the global village and cannot survive in isolation but this does not mean that we have to sell our own national sovereignty and independence to a foreign power. Yes, we should maintain mutual cooperations with the West or indeed any other country based on mutual respect and shared benefits and not one-sided deals or agreements.

Allowing a foreign power to establish a military base on our soil does not only put us in grave danger of deadly repercussions from those opposing America but deeply compromise our own national security and leaves us bare to attacks and manipulations others.

First, we demand that President Hichilema and his Government make a full disclosure of the content and nature of the agreement he has made with the Americans; Secondly, and most importantly, we demand that the President rescinds his decision to allow America to set up a military base or a military command centre on our soil.

I thank you.

Remembering FJT Chiluba First President Of The Movement For Multiparty Democracy- Dr Nevers Mumba

Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba wites

REMEMBERING FJT CHILUBA
FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE MOVEMENT FOR MULTIPARTY DEMOCRACY, MMD:
By Nevers Sekwila Mumba
President, MMD
(Personal Reflections)
30th April 2022

I was a young pastor of 31 years in Kitwe when Fredrick Chiluba was elected the second
President of Zambia.

Hardly a week in his Presidency, I received a phone call from one of his handlers asking me to travel to Lusaka to meet the new President.

The New President was ready for me when the ADC knocked at the door to his temporal office at government house. The door opened and with outstretched hands towards me, he exclaimed, Brother Nevers! We hugged.

After a few pleasantries we found ourselves in spontaneous praise and worship. With our hands up in the air we thanked God for the smooth transition of power. We thanked God for the opportunity to begin afresh on a path of Multi Party Democracy.

This prayer meeting would mark the first of many prayer meetings we had together in the first five years of his Presidency.

He surprised me with his deep understanding of what needed to be done both to the economy and to politics. He struck me as a people person. He wanted those who seemed less privileged to have a fair shot at life, maybe this is because of his own humble upbringing.

I deeply appreciated his humility whenever God was brought into a discussion. Whenever I asked that we pray, without exception, he would get on his knees.

Today, we remember this simple son of the soil who helped to transform our nation into a huge democratic system. His greatness lay in his belief that one man could not bring the necessary change Zambia needed. He depended on those differently gifted from him.

He brought in many giants, better educated than him. He surrounded himself with self made men and women. With this team, a new economic and political order was ushered in.

Although for some, the end seemed to contradict the beginning, it is also true that many believe he gave the best that he had. Today, we remember him as the leader who declared Zambia as a Christian Nation. A legacy that will never be taken away from him.

Today, President Chiluba would have turned 79 years old.

May your spirit live on.

We comment :
The church lost Dr. Mumba the moment he turned his Zambia shall be saved into a political party. Mumba would have played a much bigger role to the politics of zambia if he had continued fasting and listening to God. We do not think that God anointed Mumba to become a politician. But it is never too late to completely give up politics and return to the church. The country still needs him to finish the work he began. We hope our dearest Pastor will read and meditate on this.
