Forgive Them, But Don’t Give Them Jobs In Your Govt, PF Mcc Kebby Mbewe Counsels HH On Certain PF MPs Planning To Join UPND

FORGIVE THEM, BUT DON’T GIVE THEM JOBS IN YOUR GOVT, PF MCC MBEWE COUNSELS HH ON CERTAIN PF MPS PLANNING TO JOIN UPND.

……describes certain MPs as traitors planning to join UPND to fatten their pockets.

LUSAKA……………THURSDAY, JULY, 27th 2023 (SMART EAGLES)

Patriotic Front Member of the Central Committee Kebby Mbewe has urged the UPND not to entertain certain PF Members of Parliament who are knocking on their doors in a quest to join the ruling party.

Speaking today, MCC Mbewe described such people as traitors capable of betraying the UPND the same manner they have done to the PF.

He also said that the ‘traitors’ would come to the UPND talking about the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and heap praise on President Hakainde Hichilema when in their hearts they are ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’.

MCC Mbewe has advised President Hichilema to forgive the named MPs for the insults showered at him previously but not to give them jobs in the current Government.

He feels the UPND have enough people whom they can adopt and not the ‘traitor’ who are only interested in fattening their pockets.

MCC Mbewe said the UPND must be very alert when it comes to dealing with such kind of MPs that are pretending to love the UPND today.

“Where were they when UPND was in opposition for the past 20 years, if I was THE UPND, I would not have allowed those MPs to work with them. Those are traitors, they are proper traitors, what they are doing to PF is what they will ditch them when the UPND loses power at dome point. They were insulting HH, yes HH, is the President, forgive them, but do not give them an opportunity to work in your government. They do not mean well, they are traitors, they have betrayed PF, they will also betray UPND

Some of these people I would not mention, came from MMD and they came to PF, now they are rushing into UPND. It is a sign that they are not there to serve the people of this country, it is a sign that they want to serve the interest of their families and themselves. Upnd has a great opportunity to learn from this, we the PF have learnt, we know people who are Genuine and those who are not,” he said.

Meanwhile, MCC Mbewe has called for an end to politics of the belly.

“Some of the PF MPs who want to Join UPND do not mean well for the country arguing that they want to continue having the comfort of leadership. Politics are not only done in ruling party; the Opposition is very important because it speaks for the people of Zambia. Those PF MPs running to the UPND have no integrity and, principles.

Ignore these traitors of Mps that are pretending to be holy today. I am speaking from experience. I saw how some of them came from MMD, now they are running away again. We have learnt a lesson from certain politicians that are prostitutes in this game. They do not have principles, no integrity, they just want to go where they think they would fatten their pockets,” he said

FOCUS ON REDUCING THE HIGH COST OF LIVING NOT CREATING PROPAGANDA AGAINST PF- LIFWEKELO

27th July 2023, Lusaka.

The Patriotic Front wishes to dismiss its strongest terms two malicious articles circulating on social media with the energy that they deserve as mere falsehoods connected by desperate political adversaries.

We recognize that the two articles have been fueld by those who seek to paint the PF party and it’s leaders like Vice President Hon Given Lubinda, MCC Hon Raphael Nakacinda and a host of others black.

One of the articles seeks to insinuate that Hon Given Lubinda has been doing business with FRA suppling polytene bags used to package the maize that FRA buys from farmers..

As such we want to make it categorically clear that Hon Given Lubinda has had no business dealings with FRA, any of its staff or board members as the rubbished malicious article is suggesting.

Therefore Hon Given Lubinda has pleaded with all those especially in the UPND who harbor ill will against FRA board chairman Kelvin Hambwezya and wish to see him out of his Job to push their agenda without having to link him to the man.

Please note that neither Hon Given Lubinda or any of the enterprises he has interests in has had any sort of dealings with FRA not even in the times he served as Agriculture Minister.

We equally urge all members of the press and public alike to treat as false the article claiming that there was a physical or any sort of confrontation at all between Hon Given Lubinda and MCC Raphael Nakacinda at former President Edgar Lungu’s house in Ibex Hill Lusaka as nothing of that nature occurred .

We encourage the UPND to focus their energies on uniting the country amidst the unacceptably highest cost of living currently tormenting the Zambian people as opposed to their continued propaganda against Former President Edgar Lungu and the entire patriotic front party.

Late me put it on record that, We as PF have no time to play cat and mouse with UPND as we are fixed on rebranding and mobilizing our party for 2026 and beyond.

Therefore all attempts to assassinate the characters and spirits of our party Vice President Hon Given Lubinda and MCC Nakacinda and other leaders are an exercise in futility as we remain focused on growing the PF party.

We call on Zambians to vehemently reject the new political hegemony being perpetuated by the New Dawn Government meant as it is meant divide the country on political and ethnicity lines as opposed uniting under the one zambia one nation mantra that late President Kaunda and his peers anchored it on.

Lastly, we in the PF reiterate our commitment to the sustenance of democracy within our party and we shall not be hinged by desperate political opponents who are hell bent on seeing us fall apart by propelling unsubstantiated propaganda against our leaders.

DON’T SETTLE FOR OUT OF COURT AGAINST CHIENGI MP FOR PRESS
FREEDOM VIOLATION

…. as this would not deter future assailants

Lusaka… Thursday July 27, 2023 (SMART EAGLES)

The Bloggers of Zambia has called on Henry Chunza, a journalist from Times of Zambia Newspaper and the management not to withdraw the case against Chiengi Member of Parliament Hon Given Katuta and opt for monetary payment in preference for out of court settlement.

Bloggers of Zambia Chief Executive Officer Richard Mulonga says as this would not deter future assailants.

Mr. Mulonga says his organization’s position is that Hon Katuta’s physical attack on an unarmed and defenceless journalist is not only a shame on her, but it a criminal attack on press freedom and an affront to the broader democracy.

“We would like to offer our solidarity and support to the impending prosecution of Chiengi Member of Parliament (MP) Given Katuta for assaulting a journalist, Henry Chunza. This case is a matter of public interest and we call upon Mr Chunza and the management of Times of Zambia newspaper not to withdraw the case and opt for monetary payment in preference for out of court settlement as this would not deter future assailants,” said Mr. Mulonga.

“We congratulate the Zambia Police Service for acting swiftly and arresting the MP and in view of this, take note of our interest in the matter. We urge all journalists and media bodies to stand in solidarity in addition to participating in trial monitoring for transparency and accountability purposes.”

He said the Chiengi MP has exhibited unpalatable and disgraceful behaviour that does not befit the standards and decorum of a lawmaker.

“Members of Parliament as legislators are expected to be
makers of laws and policies that promote media development but the MP has an appetite for perpetrating a culture of lawlessness, violence and attacking press freedom. We are confident in the Zambia Police Service and the judicial system that Ms Katuta will receive a fair trial and that she will be made accountable for the unwarranted attacks on Zambia’s democracy,” he added.

“We would like to remind Zambians that all citizens are equal before the law and that individuals who attack journalists must be made accountable for their actions and as such, Ms Given Katuta’s successful prosecution should serve as a deterrent to would be offenders, including other MPs who assisted in assaulting Mr Chunza within the grounds of the National Assembly of Zambia. Additionally, we would like to encourage all media bodies and other interested stakeholders to join the campaign for a free press and prioritizing the safety and protection of journalists realising that journalism is the cornerstone of democracy.”

Esther cries persecution, says 15 pricy flats are matrimonial property

FORMER First Lady Esther Lungu has cried persecution as part of her defense before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court saying attempts by the State to grab her 15 double storey houses on suspicion that they are proceeds of crime is a witch-hunt.

Esther said after her husband Edgar Lungu lost presidential power in the August 12, 2021 election her family has been actively targeted by law enforcement agencies.

She has cried to the court that the said government agencies have falsely accused her family of engaging in crime when her husband served as President and the proceedings instituted by the DPP are an attempt to label her husband and their offspring as criminals based on baseless accusations without proper evidence.

In this matter the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gilbert Phiri moved a motion before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court (High Court division) to have the properties worth K41, 586, 110. 66. forfeited to the State on suspicion that they are tainted.

The notice of a non conviction based forfeiture order of tainted property was made pursuant to Order 30 Rules 15 and 17 of the High Court Rules, read together with Sections 29 and 31 of the forfeiture of proceeds of crime Act no. 19 of 2010.

However Esther has declared interest in her semi luxurious houses which the State wants to grab, indicating that they were not built using black market money.

She argues that though the 15 double storey flats she is accused of dubiously acquiring are registered in her name, they are matrimonial property which were built by her husband Edgar Lungu.

Esther has charged that Emmanuel Khondowe, a senior investigations officer at the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) under the anti-money laundering investigations unit is not a qualified accountant nor an auditor to analyse her financial status and statements.

She said Khondowe is inexperienced in balancing the books hence he cannot gather financial information about her, analyse it and draw an opinionated conclusion that the property is tainted without conducting a proper financial audit.

In an affidavit of interested party filed in opposition to notice of motion Esther said properties no. 9334/1, 9334/2 9334/3 and 9334/4 Lusaka in State lodge Chongwe were legitimately acquired as she has never engaged in crime.

“I strongly dispute as I have not been involved in any alleged serious offence or foreign serious offence and categorically deny that the said properties are either wholly or partly derived or realized directly or indirectly by either myself or any other person from the commission of a serious offence or a foreign serious offence,” Esther said.

She explained that when she was quizzed about how the properties came into her possession by the DEC on July 26, 2022 she informed Khondowe that the houses were acquired by herself through a direct lease from the commissioner of lands then Barnabus Mulenga.

Esther explained that by virtue of her marriage to Lungu said that the properties were not disproportionate to her earnings as she has a good employment history (CV).

“It is a well known fact that I was the first lady of Zambia as I am married to the former President Edgar Lungu, and that prior to becoming the first lady as aforesaid,I worked for the Zambia Council for the Blind and Handicapped ; the Christian Council of Zambia ; under the United National High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Refugee counseling services;the Legal Services Corporation;Lusulo and Company; Toplis and Harding Insurance Loss Adjusters; and Independent Insurance Loss Adjusters,” she said.

Ether said she would save the per diems she got on every trip she undertook whilst in formal employment.

“Upon retirement from formal employment,I was involved in NGOs which enabled me to travel internationally to exhibit and sell Zambian products in liaison with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) where I realized some finances,”Esther explained.

She said she also accrued allowances from the foreign and local trips in her capacity as First Lady.

“I personally informed Khondowe of the source of income that I had acquired both during the said period and the period prior to the said investigations,”Esther said.

“I wish to state that the aforesaid properties registered in my name are in fact matrimonial properties which information was also conveyed to Khondowe the investigation officer and that these properties were developed by my husband (Lungu).”

She disputed the value of the properties claiming it is intentionally inflated.

Esther said the State has failed to give particulars of the alleged serious offence or foreign serious offence nor unlawful activity associated with her persona or any of the properties listed in the application.

She stated that the State has failed to produce sufficient evidence to demonstrate that the 15 flats are proceeds of crime.

The impassioned queen of pleas begged the Court to see to it that her constitutional right of the presumption of innocence until proven guilty should be respected.

She said the State should not publicly convict her on the acquisition of property as it is her constitutional right to be accorded some respect and a right to a fair trial.

Lusambo denies illegal possession of property

Lusambo denies illegal possession of property

FORMER Kabushi member of parliament Bowman Lusambo has denied acquiring his fancy house in Lusaka’s Chamba Valley through grand corruption.

This is in a matter where he is facing two counts of possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court.

It is alleged that Between May 1, 2015 and December 31, 2021 Lusambo possessed property no. F/609/E/44/B/9 which is a single storey four-bedroomed house and a guest wing and an incomplete block of six flats in Silverest area which are suspected to be tainted.

Lusambo pleaded not guilty to the charges before Lusaka chief resident magistrate Davies Chibwili.

Earlier, the Court refused to refer the matter to the High Court for determination on whether his trial before two different courts on similar charges will amount to subjecting him to an unfair trial.

He argued that he could not be tried by a different court on similar charges when he is already appearing before Lusaka magistrate, Faides Hamaundu with his wife Nancy Manase facing 10 corruption-related charges among them possessing and concealing four houses suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Lusambo through his lawyer Makebi Zulu argued that Article 28 of the Constitution as read together with Article 18 require every accused person be accorded a fair trial.

Zulu said a fair trial under Article 18 requires that an accused person ought to be given adequate facilities to defend themselves.

Zulu said the matter before magistrate Hamaundu and the current charges are initially the same though they relate to different properties.

He said Section 135, (1) and (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) provides for joinder of charges or counts and the only time a
separate trial could be held was under section 135 (3 ) of the CPC.

” We came before you with a question as to whether this mitigation of spreading accounts across different courts can afford fair trial in
terms of Article 18 of the constitution as read together with Section 135 of the CPC. These charges before you ought to form part of
the charges before Magistrate Hamaundu because they fall within the provisions of section 135 of CPC. Similar charges ought to be on the same indictment and tried by the same Court,” Zulu said.

Zulu said the failure to merge the similar charges would result in unfair trial for the accused because different court would come up with different judgments on a similar matter.

“It may result in the same witnesses testifying in different Courts over the same matter and that is undesirable. You will note that an
application was made before honorable Hamaundu by the State to include
these two counts in the proceedings in line with section 135. The ruling of the court was that the matter had advanced and declined to add these two matters,” said Zulu

But ACC Prosecutor Daniel Ngwira said the manner in which the questions were framed
for purposes of reference to the High Court, do not meet the test under Article 18 of the Constitution.

He said relation to the question on whether it was constitutionally right to have piece meal prosecution, Article 18 ( 12) of the Constitution
states that anything done under the authority of any written law is not inconsistent with the Constitution.

Ngwira argued that following the refusal by magistrate Hamaundu to join the two
charges, the only recourse the prosecution had was to invoke Section 90 of the CPC which provides for institution of criminal procedure in the manner that the prosecution has done.

He said Lusambo’s rights to a fair trial has not been violated and there is no evidence to prove that adequate facilities have been denied for him to prepare his defense.

Ruling on the matter magistrate Chibwili said there is nothing wrong with spreading the charges in different courts.

He said when an accused is charged on more than one count on similar the charges the same can be broken down and shared in different Courts.

Magistrate Chibwili said there is no question that requires reference to the high court.

“There is a grievance by the defence over the refusal by magistrate Hamaundu to add the counts which they failed to appeal against and now want the attention of the High Court over the matter. I hereby deny the application as there is no question that arises that requires determination,”said magistrate Chibwili.

Trial commences on September 11.

Ba Lungu…..Stop Mocking Us!

0

In one of the articles I churned out earlier this year titled, “Will Edgar Lungu Pull A Quick One?” I observed that Lungu hasn’t quite retired from politics. I predicated that as we approach 2026, stage-managed calls for the former president to come back into politics will rise to a crescendo. In the fullness of time, the humble leader would invite the media to his Ibex Hill plush mansion and declare that he’s been compelled to run for public office again due to public demand. It seems the pieces are already beginning to fast fall into place.

It’s even surprising that those who consider themselves to be crafty and shrewd policians such as Chishimba Kambwili and Godfrey B. Mwamba could not read through such cheap schemes right from beginning. The other day, some women “waylaid” Lungu during his usual morning jogging and cried bitterly. They complained they are suffering under the UPND government.

“You are the only one we consider as president, we don’t know Hichilema. Please come back us and liberate us,” one of them can be heard complaining in Nyanja.

The jumble leader is again seen in a video on social media excitedly exchanging fist bumps and high fives with some kids. This is a choreographed strategy to portray him as a loving father to the public. As the plot continues to thicken, you should expect more individuals of different hues and shades to continue flocking to Ibex Hill for photo opts – students, labour leaders, the clergy, traditional leaders etc.

President Edgar Lungu must not dare take the people of Zambia for granted. He should stop mocking us! The country witnessed the worst atrocities under his brutal regime! Do we surely need to remind him his cadres used to pry open mouths of journalists and urinate in them? Has he forgotten that he closed our favourite The Post Newspapers and equally shut down the popular Prime TV station, institutions he considered critical of his government? Didn’t his cadres gouge out our eyes or hack us with pangas? Who killed Chibulo Mapenzi…..Grazier Mutapa…..Lawrence Banda? Who gassed us in our homes during our sleep? Did Lungu allow the opposition, particularly HH to interact with would-be voters? Weren’t the markets and stations “No Go Zones!” for UPND members? Who stripped our students of mealie meal allowances? Did Lungu avail CDF to opposition strongholds on time? Does he need reminding that his government and party officials became instant millionaires…..they’ve colossal sums of money stashed in their houses, and boast of fleets of cars and mansions everywhere!

Stop hiding in your so-called morning exercises, Sir! Be a man and declare your intentions now so that we can tackle you fairly and squarely!

Snoop Dogg has canceled his Hollywood Bowl shows celebrating 30th anniversary of his debut album Doggystyle in solidarity with striking Hollywood actors and writers

The 51-year-old rapper posted a message on Instagram announcing the cancellations after earlier postponing the shows in June in support of the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America.

‘We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing strike and the uncertainty when this will be over, we need to cancel the Hollywood Bowl show,’ Snoop posted.

‘We continue to stand in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters in the WGA and SAG/AFTRA during this difficult time and remain hopeful that the AMPTP will come back to the negotiating table with a REAL proposal and we can all get back to work,’ he added.

The Long Beach, California native posted on Instagram on June 2 that the shows celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album Doggystyle were being postponed due to the strike by writers that started on May 2.

‘Due to the ongoing WGA strike and the DGA and SAG/AFTRA negotiations, we have decided to postpone the shows scheduled for June 27 and June 28 at the Hollywood Bowl. We stand in solidarity with the unions and are hopeful that the AMPTP will negotiate fair deals as soon as possible and everybody can get back to work. New dates are now October 20 and 21, 2023,’ Snoop posted on June 2.

The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) representing actors went on strike July 14 over an ongoing labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The anniversary shows were going to be produced by rapper Dr. Dre, 58, who also produced Snoop’s debut album Doggystyle.

The Hollywood Bowl described the shows as Snoop bringing together ‘some of his best friends — plus conductor Derrick Hodge and the ReCollective Orchestra — to re-create ‘Gin and Juice,’ ‘What’s My Name,’ ‘Lodi Dodi,’ and more.’

Tottenham owner, Joe Lewis surrenders himself to US authorities in Manhattan after being indicted for ‘brazen’ insider trading

British billionaire and Tottenham Hotspur football team owner Joe Lewis has surrendered himself to US authorities in Manhattan in the wake of his indictment for insider trading.

Mail Sport reported on Tuesday night that federal prosecutors have accused the 86-year-old of slipping confidential stock tips to his romantic partners, private pilots, and friends so that they could make millions of dollars.

Lewis exploited his entrée to various corporations to reap lucrative secrets, passed them on to people in his own inner circle, and prompted them to trade on the knowledge, prosecutors said.

The billionaire, who owns a $250million superyacht on which he sometimes lives, has been charged with 13 counts of securities fraud [under title 15], each of which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison; three counts of securities fraud [under title 18], each of which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison; and three counts of conspiracy, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

A statement from the US Attorney’s office on Wednesday read: ‘Joe Lewis self-surrendered this morning to federal authorities and is expected to be presented in Manhattan federal district court sometime today on criminal charges.’

On Tuesday, in a dramatic statement delivered by video, US Attorney Damian Williams said: ‘My office, the Southern District of New York has indicted Joe Lewis, the British billionaire, for orchestrating a brazen insider trading scheme.

‘We allege that for years Joe Lewis abused his access to corporate boardrooms and repeatedly provided inside information to his romantic partners, his personal assistants, his private pilots, and his friends.

‘Those folks then traded on that inside information and made millions of dollars on the stock market because – thanks to Lewis – those bets were a sure thing.’

Williams added: ‘Now, none of this was necessary. Joe Lewis is a wealthy man. But as we allege he used inside information as a way to compensate his employees or shower gifts on his friends and lovers. It is classic corporate corruption.

‘It’s cheating and it’s against the law. That’s why Joe Lewis has been indicted and will face justice here in the Southern District of New York.’

David M. Zornow, an attorney for Lewis, revealed his client had already arrived in the US ‘to answer these ill-conceived charges’ and would fight them vigorously.

‘The government has made an egregious error in judgment in charging Mr. Lewis, an 86-year-old man of impeccable integrity and prodigious accomplishment,’ Zornow said in a statement.

‘Mr Lewis has come to the US voluntarily to answer these ill-conceived charges, and we will defend him vigorously in court.’ The charges include securities fraud and conspiracy.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Tottenham said: ‘This is a legal matter unconnected with the club and as such we have no comment.’

EU Election Observation Mission deploys 46 long-term observers, says will not interfere with Zim’s electoral processes

THE European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Zimbabwe Wednesday deployed 46 long-term observers across the country.

At a press conference in Harare, the EU EOM deputy chief Beata Martin-Rozumiłowicz said the “observers will be working across all of the country’s ten provinces and will focus on rural and urban areas without any interference in the electoral processes.”

“In the course of their duty, EU observers will meet local electoral officials, candidates and representatives from political parties, as well as civil society and the media.”

She said the mission will stick to its mandate.

“All EU election observers are bound by a code of conduct and ethical guidelines that guarantee their neutrality and impartiality.

“The EU EOM does not validate the results or comments on the process while it is still ongoing,” Martin-Rozumilowicz said adding that observers do not interfere in the electoral process and have no authority to change or correct any possible shortcomings.

“The observers will be impartial and they will not interfere in the electoral process in the course of their work. They will only use first hand and verified observation in their reporting”, stressed Martin- Rozumiłowicz.

According to the deputy chief observer, the findings of the long-term observers will be analysed by the core team in Harare.

She highlighted that on election day, the mission will be supplemented across the country by 44 short-term observers, a delegation from the European Parliament and a number of locally recruited short-term observers, drawn from the diplomatic community.

This will bring the number of EU observers on polling day to over 150, from all 27 EU member states as well as Canada, Norway and Switzerland.

Martin-Rozumiłowicz said, “the Chief Observer of the EU EOM, Fabio Massimo Castaldo, will present the initial findings and conclusions of the mission two days after the elections.

“The mission will remain in Zimbabwe to observe also the post electoral environment and follow possible appeals and complaints whilst a final report, with recommendations for future elections, will be published some two months after election day.

The EU EOM will present a preliminary statement within 48 hours after election day and will continue to observe until the end of the electoral process.

A comprehensive final report, as well as recommendations for future elections, will be presented approximately two months after the conclusion of the electoral process.

The EU EOM was invited by the government amongst other 70 or so mission observers for the August 23, 2023 harmonised elections.

Forensic experts test bullet cartridges found at searched LV home in connection to Tupac’s murder

Bullet cartridges found at a Henderson, Nevada home have reportedly been sent for forensic testing in connection to Tupac Shakur’s unsolved murder.

Las Vegas Metro Police revealed in a warrant that detectives removed several .40-caliber bullets from Keefe’s residence last week.

According to Radar Online, eleven .40 caliber bullet cartridges were recovered after LVMPD’s search on the Henderson, Nevada home last week. Additionally, the cartridges have been sent to a forensics lab to determine if they match those removed from Tupac Shakur’s body.

“The bullets taken from the house will absolutely be tested by forensics experts. Of course, the most obvious probe will be to determine if they have any link to the bullets found in Tupac’s body or on the scene of the homicide,” a Vegas police source told Mirror.

The outlet adds that an anonymous police source shared their thoughts on the likelihood of the cartridges being matched.

“The likelihood of the bullet cartridges being a direct match is not high. It is hard to imagine anyone would have held onto such evidence, if it was incriminating, for close to three decades…”

iìi

The source adds that the bullet cartridges do, however, match the “make” of the murder weapon used in the shooting of Shakur, a reported S&W Glock 22.

According to Mirror, the history of the bullet cartridges and how old they are remain unclear.

The last week’s search of the Las Vegas home also produced “manuscripts, computers, phones, and digital storage devices” also confiscated by Las Vegas authorities, as per Mirror.

According to ABC News, a manuscript of the search listed one of the items as a “copy of ‘Vibe magazine’ on Tupac.”

The items will reportedly add to the clothing, bullets, shells, and powder that authorities recovered from the crime scene where the shooting of Shakur occurred on September 7, 1996.

Additionally, a book called ‘Compton Street Legend’ was also retrieved during the search. The novel was reportedly written by Duane “Keefe D.” Davis, the man directly connected to the searched home

TEMPERS FLARE –PF SENIOR MEMBERS IN A BRAWL AT IBEX HILL LUNGU’S RESIDENCE

TEMPERS FLARE –PF SENIOR MEMBERS IN A BRAWL AT IBEX HILL LUNGU’S RESIDENCE

A Chaotic brawl almost broke out at Former president Edgar Lungu’s ibex hil residence were two senior Patriotic Front members got into a heated argument concerning Brian HAPUNDA ‘s revelation that they’re camps fighting fully paid PF presidential candidates to be dropped and hand pick Edgar Lungu.

Security quickly separated the two senior Patriotic Front (PF) Members from assaulting each other at Former President Edgar Lungu’s residence in ibex Tuesday evening, Acting Patriotic Front president Given Lubinda lost his temper and lashed at information and publicity committee Chairperson Raphael Nakachinda accusing him of leaking confidential information concerning the party Convention which has been postponed again from October 2023, to unknown date.

The scene, which saw Former water and sanitation minister grabbing a fruit basket aiming at Former Justice Minister Given Lubinda left Former President Lungu to take a walk of shame” from the lounge leaving the two leaders separated by security elbows and boots.

The meeting which was called by Given Lubinda and attended by Raphael Nakachinda and others , did not call to order as the two got straight into a screaming match,

Nakachinda who could not keep his voice down lost his temper and started talking over Given Lubinda who he accused of not taking firm action against erring Party members who are creating camps and challenging the come back of Former president ECL.

The drunken Nakachinda lost control of his deaminor and the meeting quickly turned into a fracas.

“Citizens want our president “ECL” , back ,but currently we cant manage our affairs internally; we have a acting president who is not keeping members in check, squables are now in the public” He yelled. “Almost everyone in PF has court cases but how many is the secretariat paying for legal representation” Asked Nakachinda.

Nakachinda continued yelling on top of his voice lecturing Given Lubinda who also lost his temper and reached for a glass of whisky, lunging and missing the PF publicity Chairperson by an inch.

Given Lubinda who was restrained by a security guard asked Nakachinda why he was accusing him of having favourites on legal fees representation when his not in the legal department ,and that the PF secretariat is assisting and paying for legal fees of his Girlfriend Saboi imboela.

“You’re claiming that we’re selective in paying legal fees and returner fees for Patriotic front members but the secretariat is paying all legal fees for your girlfriend Saboi of NDC” ultered Lubinda in heated chaos while been restrained by security.

In a disgraceful fashion Former president Edgar Lungu walked out on the chaotic meeting that did not cover the agenda and warned the two not to call for meetings at his residence when drunk.

“I cannot accept this kind of behaviour in my house like this Mr. Lubinda” said Lungu,

“Let the convention come and allow delegates of the party to vote, the people choose me before, dont waste time fighting each other”,He said.

After the truce of his former ministers the former state man walked out head bowing down.

Initially anointed as the” God father” of PF in 2021, were he contested and lost the General elections by over 1million votes, Lungu did not appoint a party successor, as the Patriotic front constitution requires fresh elections to vote in new office executives.

But the preparation has been plugned into chaos postponing the general conference twice this year, in March 2023 and to October 2023.

Among the aspiring fully paid presidential candidates, is GBM, Chishimba Kambwili, Miles Sampa, Brian Mundubile, Greyford Monde,Mutotwe Kafwaya, Dr.Chitalu Chilufya among others, the PF convention remains without a definite date.

Your Hunger For Vengeance Will Destroy You, Chilangwa Tells President Hichilema

0

YOUR HUNGER FOR VENGEANCE WILL DESTROY YOU, CHILANGWA TELLS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA

24th July 2023
Mr. Hakainde Hichilema
President of Zambia
State House
Lusaka.
Mr. President,
RE: THE UNFORGIVING SERVANT

Greetings from my prison cell in Kawambwa State Prison. Grace and peace be with you.

I desire to share with you a number of issues which will be contained in a series of letters
that I will be writing you on a weekly basis. This I am doing for the sake of our country and
its people.

Let me start by sharing the following Bible scripture coming from the gospel according
to Mathew 18:21-35.

“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord someone won’t stop doing wrong to me,
how many times must I forgive them? Seven times?”

Jesus answered, “I tell you, you must forgive them more than seven times. You must
continue to forgive them even if do wrong to you seventy-seven times.”

So God’s kingdom is like a king who decided to collect the money his servants owed
him.

The king began to collect his money. One servant owed him several ponds of silver.
He was not able to pay the money to his master, the king.so the master ordered that he
and everything he owned be sold, even his wife and children. The money would be used
to pay the king what the servant owed.

But the servant fell on his knees and begged, patient with me, I will pay you everything I
owe. The master felt sorry for him, so he told the servant he did not have to pay. He let
him go free. Later that same servant found another servant who owed him a hundred
silver coins. He grabbed him around the neck and said pay me the money you owe me.

The other servant fell on his knees and begged him “be patient with me, I will pay you
everything I owe”.

But the first servant refused to be patient. He told the judge that the other servant owed
him money and that servant was put in jail until he could pay everything he owed. All the other servants saw what had happened, they felt very sorry for the man. So they went
and told their master the king everything that had happened.

Then the master called his servant in said, “you evil servant, you begged me to forgive you your debt and I said you did not have to pay anything. So you should have given that other man who serves with you the same mercy I gave you.

The master was very
angry, so he put the servant in jail to be punished. And he had to stay in jail until he could pay everything he owed.

The king did the same as my heavenly father will do to you. You must forgive your brother
or sister with all your heart or my heavenly father will not forgive you.”

This ends the quoted Bible scripture. These are not my words but inspired scriptures from the Holy Bible. The focus must be on verse 35 and I repeat, “This king did the same as
my heavenly father will do to you”

After reading this portion of scripture, what is it that comes in your mind? What are your thoughts? What do you think of this unforgiving servant?

I am sure you are saying, “What a terrible man this man was!”
This unforgiving servant is exactly like you. You might actually be worse than this man.

You were arrested and charged for treason because of your reckless conduct in Mongu.

[According to the statutes once one is tried for this offence] the sentence for this offence includes the death penalty meaning that you would have ended on the death row.

The whole world stood up for you and brokered your release under a Nolle, meaning that
you were restored and given a second chance meaning that God gave you second chance, and God went further to exalt you by giving you the opportunity to lead Zambia as its 7th president.

Just like the unforgiving servant, you were given an opportunity by God the father to start
afresh, a new beginning was given to you. But how have you used this new beginning?
How have you used this new hope? How have you used this new opportunity?

You have gone out all guns blazing to victimize, humiliate, destroy and persecute all your perceived enemies, rivals and anyone you don’t like and anyone you hate!

Zambia is a democracy, and all of us have diverse opinions, different beliefs and we do things differently.

Your duty should have been to promote unity in diversity. You should
have been a bridge builder but unfortunately you have elected to be full of yourself and full of hate!

Just like the unforgiving servant, God has seen and recorded your conduct, behavior
and treatment of others.

Unless you turn away from your wicked conduct and behavior
your end will be very bad.

And I can tell you that all those you are persecuting today will outlive you just as history will show you! And why can’t you learn from history? I will illustrate and belabor this in my second letter to you next week.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to cleanse us of all our iniquities. Mr. President, you have an opportunity to redeem yourself.

Don’t listen to your praise singers as when
the time of reckoning comes which is fast approaching you will be alone, just alone and
alone indeed.

I like to believe that even the unforgiving servant had those who were cheering him on
as he manhandled his debtor and had him thrown in prison. Just like your praise singers.

Please note that others are cheering you on as a way of sustainance, but you will be alone very soon! Please slow down on vengeance as it is destroying you, your party and Zambia at large. And not PF!

You are not a king or chief who sits on the throne till death. Your tenure has an expiry date and it is fast approaching!

It is said that “to be fore-warned is to be fore-armed”.

And where I come from it is said that “uushumfwa patunono napa fingi teti omfwe”, and it is also said that “munshebwa
ayile…”

I wish you wisdom from above and I remain to write you my next letter next week.

Yours in the service of motherland,

Nickson Chilangwa

WHAT MEASURES HAVE BEEN PUT IN PLACE TO ENSURE THE SURVIVAL OF STREET VENDORS TO CREATE “FRESH AIR” – MAKEBI ZULU QUESTIONS GOVERNMENT

WHAT MEASURES HAVE BEEN PUT IN PLACE TO ENSURE THE SURVIVAL OF STREET VENDORS TO CREATE “FRESH AIR” – MAKEBI ZULU QUESTIONS GOVERNMENT

Renowned Lawyer Makebi Zulu has questioned what provisions of law the UPND government has put in place to ensure vendors that were recently removed from the street are able to fend for themselves.

Mr. Zulu says governance should be seen to be for the benefit of the people being governed unlike behind the scenes likening it to a cult.

“Governance is being able to rule in accordance with the way that the people that have put you in power and that looks at being able to satisfy the needs of the people that have put you in office.” He said.

He added that there should have been proper planning and sensitization with the street vendors prior to their removal as opposed to doing so after the act.

“You should have engaged much more, the same propaganda you’ve employed now to clean up the mess that you have created should have been employed before…” Mr. Zulu said.

Mr Zulu was speaking during Tuesday’s edition of 5FM’s “The Burning Issue” radio program where he was featured together with Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe.

And the Justice Minister said that the UPND government is doing exactly what the people want, having given them room to breathe and fresh air, an experience that he said Zambians had not experienced before UPND came into power.

“If we had the opportunity right now we would go to intercity… which was a den of all sorts of activities which is in contrast to what the people of Zambia expected and wanted.” The minister said.

And Mr Zulu further questioned if Government was concerned about the survival of the vendors that had been removed from the streets and wondered if at all there was any law to safeguard their interests.

“The real issue that we are supposed to be dealing with is how are we enhancing the law for purposes of ensuring that our people are living a good life out there,”
Yes you have taken people out of the streets, out of intercity but how are they surviving? Are you concerned about how they are surviving. What laws have you put in place that are going to safeguard their interest?” He asked.-The New Dawn Newspaper

Previous owners of 51 houses challenge conviction

Previous owners of 51 houses challenge conviction

A Couple of Lusaka that was recently jailed for three years by the Economic and Financial Crimes Court for possessing 51 houses and land suspected to be proceeds of crime have contested their conviction and sentencing.

Charles Loyana and Susan Sinkala who were public workers as senior accountant in the ministry of finance and assistant accountant at the ministry of works and supply respectively have filed in a notice of appeal before the Lusaka magistrates’ court.

Magistrate Faidess Hamaundu temporarily put the union of the corrupt couple asunder when she sent it to prison for building and concealing 51 houses in Lusaka’s Chalala area whose value was disproportionate to its income.

She established that indicated that Former ministry of finance and national planning accountant Charles Loyana and his wife Susan Sinkala are not pseudo owners of the properties as they claim.

Loyana and his wife Susan Sinkala, were charged with two counts of possessing and concealing 51 properties worth K37.9 million suspected to be proceeds of crime.

In her judgement magistrate Hamaundu said there was no trace of the obscene amounts of money which the couple claims to have received from Tanzanian nationals Uziel Bashire and Zuberi Bigawa to build the houses which are dotted near Gideon Robert University.

“There is no evidence of transfer of funds indicating that Uziel Bashire sent money to Zuberi Bigawa to transfer funds to Loyana to purchase land,”magistrate Hamaundu said

“I have no doubt that the money used to build the houses is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime because there is no way Loyana can receive huge amounts of money without a trace of were it came from. I hereby find him guilty as charged.”

The Court said Sinkala was a beneficiary of the proceeds realized from the rentals because she was also the owner of some the houses as evidenced by the applications to connect the houses to the ZESCO power grid.

The Court noted that the cost at which the houses were constructed was beyond the couple’s income who were public workers by then.

She said Loyana concealed ownership of the properties when he attempted to have them registered in his children’s names when the ACC begun to investigate the case but later registered them in the names of Kitwe based lawyer Chali Chitala.

This was after Lombe Bwalya who was selling the land on behalf of the Khankharas advised him that the children were minors and could not hold property.

Magistrate Hamaundu acquitted Sinkala of concealing property suspected to be tainted as the commission did not prove the case beyond reasonable doubt against her.

In meting out punishment magistrate Hamaundu sentenced Loyana to three years imprisonment with hard labour in the two counts which will run concurrently and slapped his wife with three years simple imprisonment.

But in their 15 grounds of appeal Loyana and his wife argue that the learned magistrate erred at law and fact when she convicted them on one count which had an offence that did not exist at law.

The convicts contend that Magistrate Hamaundu erred in law and fact when she convicted Sinkala without the state having suspicions about her.

Loyana and Sinkala said the learned trial magistrate erred at law and fact when she coined her own suspicions or factual issues against both accused persons which were not alleged by the prosecution, placing herself in the position of prosecution.

“Magistrate Hamaundu erred in law and fact when she convicted us of possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime when the facts of the evidence on record did not meet the ingredients and principles of the subject offence as held by the supreme court,”the convicts argued.

They claim the magistrate erred in law and fact when she convicted them against the evidence of the prosecution that was in their favor and exonerated them.

The couple said magistrate Hamaunda erred when she failed to consider the evidence of how the properties came into their possession.

“The learned trial magistrate erred at law and facts when she convicted us of the subject offence on the insistence that the financing of the properties in question did not correspond with our income from the works we do, when infact there was clear evidence of financing for acquisition and construction of the properties that it was not financed using the accused’s finances,”Loyana and Sinkala stated.

They further argued that magistrate Hamaundu erred when she convicted them on the basis that the money was tainted when there was no such allegation before or during trial and without such a charge against them.

The couple added that the magistrate erred when she chose to fill in gaps left by the prosecution against the principal of criminal law which requires her to make findings of fact only on the evidence before her.

The matter comes up on July 28, for hearing of the bail application pending appeal to the EFCC (High court division).

There is no way I will get out of prison with a vengeful and hateful heart- Hon. Nixon Chilangwa

ZAMBIA DESERVES BETTER LEADERSHIP-HON. NIXON CHILANGWA

Greetings!

To all colleagues, friends and family.

I desire to take this opportunity to thank you for your prayers, messages of solidarity
support and encouragement!

Let me start by informing you all that I am perfectly ok, I am at peace, I have accepted
my situation, my fate, and I have quickly adjusted to prison life, learning and experiencing
new things here on a daily basis!

I am at peace because in all things we should thank God, in all things we should praise
God, and in all things we should wait upon God! I am sure, very sure that God has answered all our prayers as He is faithful and just!

There is a reason for everything, for God to have allowed this to happen there must be a reason.

There is something God wants me to learn, or there is something God is talking to me about because everything God does is good and for a very good reason.

Maybe I am here so that my life is preserved, or God is preparing me for another Mission in My
Life!

But throughout history we learn that the calling to service is not for the faint-hearted, nor
for cowards.
Unfortunately so.

Is it not ironic that the UPND leadership and president HH can be so obsessed with me in
this fashion? They have become so stone-hearted with no regard to the feelings and liberties of others.

As long as it gives them joy and meets the desires of their hearts.

Zambia deserves better leadership and God will provide.

But believers will learn from the Bible how stone-hearted Joseph’s brothers became, how stone-hearted Pharaoh of Egypt became towards the children of Israel, even how stone-hearted those who conspired against Jesus became.

In our country we know how stone-hearted those who conspired against President Kaunda became and how stone-hearted those who conspired against President Chiluba became. This is summed up in Ecc 1: 9, “there is nothing new under the sun. What has been done will be done, what has happened will
happen.”

I am blessed because I am in a place where people love me genuinely in Kawambwa and ordinary people are visiting me on daily basis and providing for my daily needs.

This is so humbling even when they themselves are struggling they are sacrificing for me. Not
the elite or the well-to-do but the under-privileged.

My cellmates are an incredible lot who are giving me all the support, they are sharing their food and other supplies with me. They are praying and sharing the word of God with
me and this is just another topic for another day.

I am spending my time prayers, talking to God, understanding His word, reading, writing, taking time to listen to different stories from my new found friends as to how they got here.

At the rate things have unfolded in my first 10 days here in prison, this will be a very fulfilling
mission and a big turning point in my life.

There is no way I will get out of prison with a vengeful and hateful heart if God desires that I come out. I am ready for either a short-haul or indeed the long-haul here.

For the PF family, it is time to stand up and be counted.

It is time for all of us to show leadership and fill in the gaps. The time for the blame game is long gone.

I wish you all peace and grace from above.

Chamisa promises Emmerson Mnangagwa seat in Parliament, promises ‘mean-lean’ govt

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has promised President Emmerson Mnangagwa a seat in Zimbabwe’s 10th Parliament as Leader of Opposition, a position the former unsuccessfully tabled for him in 2018.

Chamisa, who is widely expected to present Mnangagwa with the most competition among 10 other presidential candidates, was speaking at a rally in Chirumanzu South constituency where he had gone to drum up support for his parliamentary candidate Patrick Cheza.

In 2018, with intentions of making it back into the United Kingdom’s (UK) Commonwealth, Mnangagwa offered Chamisa a similar post.

“Under our Commonwealth parliamentary democracy, the opposition is recognised; we recognise the leader of the opposition in Parliament. This is what we are going to do ourselves,” said Mnangagwa.

A constitutional amendment was reportedly considered by Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, a move that was eventually scuttled by Chamisa’s decision to dismiss Zanu PF’s antics.

“We are going to deal with nation-building, we want to unite people. We want to celebrate national events as a country,” said Chamisa.

“Mnangagwa will be the leader of the opposition in Parliament starting on the 24th.

“A leader of opposition is not an enemy of the state, he is an extension because government is not one side, it is two sides, the opposing side and the governing side but these comrades of mine do not know that.”

To counter overspending by the state, Chamisa promised a 15-member Cabinet of performance-based ministers who will be relieved of duties if they fail to deliver.

“Do not choose darkness over light. Governance is the second thing which we are going to fix,” added Chamisa.

“We no longer want MPs and Ministers who get elected so as to abuse public funds, we want people who know that Ministers are about developing this country.

“We will have just 15 Ministers, the moment we get more than those then it will simply be a ‘jobs for the boys’ situation.

“Let us have a mean and lean government that is accountable, where one who fails leaves.”

Kenya’s Odinga denounces ‘unprecedented police brutality’ against protesters

Veteran Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday denounced “unprecedented police violence” during the anti-government and anti-expense protests that have been taking place in the East African country in recent months.

Since March, the opposition coalition Azimio has organized nine days of action against the policies of President William Ruto, sometimes resulting in looting and clashes with the police. According to Azimio, at least 50 people have been killed since March, some 20 according to official figures.

“We are witnessing unprecedented police violence,” said Raila Odinga at a press conference for foreign media in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

“Police and gangs have shot and killed or wounded dozens of people at point-blank range”, he claimed, maintaining that “all the victims were unarmed”.

According to him, the violence was particularly aimed at the Luos, the ethnic group from which he hails.

Accusing the opposition of inciting violence, President Ruto affirmed on Wednesday his support for the police, who “must ensure that they are firm against criminals, gangs, anarchists and all those who want to sow chaos”.

Human rights organizations denounced the repression carried out by the police, who sometimes fired live ammunition. A coalition of 29 NGOs, including Amnesty International, claimed on Friday to have documented 27 “extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions” during the five days of action organized in July.

Instead of “peaceful demonstrations”, Azimio called for “marches and vigils of solidarity for victims of police violence”. “We call on Kenyans to come out, light candles and lay flowers” in their memory, it announced in a statement on Monday.

Elected in August 2022, William Ruto is facing growing opposition. In particular, he is accused of adding to the difficulties of Kenyans, already struggling with ongoing inflation (+8% year-on-year in June), with a law enacted in early July introducing new taxes.

“These protests were about the cost of living and excessive taxes, and they will continue”, said the opposition leader, despite the low turnout for the latest days of mobilization on Thursday and Friday.

Last week, the UN, the Commonwealth Secretariat and leading Kenyan media called on Ruto and Odinga to engage in dialogue. “We have always said that we are open to dialogue”, assured Mr. Odinga.

The opposition had cancelled demonstrations scheduled for April and May, after William Ruto had agreed to hold talks. The talks collapsed, leading to the resumption of actions since the beginning of July.

Mr. Khan explains that particulars of the offence are that Joseph Chulu and Darlington Chulu in their capacity as Directors/Shareholders in Damphen Clearing and Forwarding Limited jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown on dates unknown but between 1st April and 30th November 2022 received money amounting to K4, 036, 392.83 through their company account purporting that they would supply a foreign businessman with 123 kilogrammes of gold when in fact not.

He says the two are on bond and will appear in court soon.

In another matter, the Commission in Lusaka has arrested Samson Mwanza aged 35 for Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs (namely 5.94 grammes of cocaine) contrary to section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No.35 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia.

“Mwanza was apprehended in special operation conducted in Mandevu compound.
Meanwhile, the Commission in Kazungula Southern Province has arrested Given Simonda aged 31 for trafficking in 200 packets of high grade cannabis and loose cannabis weighing 409.9 grammes. Simonda was nabbed after the Commission received reports of the trafficking and illicit use of this high grade cannabis in the Livingstone and Kazungula districts,” reviewed Mr. Khan.

“The suspects are detained in lawful custody and will appear in court soon.
The Commission has noted an increase in incidences of people trafficking in this high grade cannabis. The public is hereby informed that this strain of cannabis is very portent with high quantities of the psychoactive ingredient delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol unlike the locally grown varieties.

It is predominantly grown in green houses in one of the neighbouring countries and smuggled into the country. This cannabis has now become the preferred recreational drug of choice among the affluent.”

He said in order to deal with this scourge, the Commission has scaled up its surveillance measures and the recent seizures at Chirundu and now Kazungula are a clear demonstration of this.

“After the clean-up of the Lusaka’s Central Business District by the Zambia Police Service and the Lusaka City Council Police, significant quantities of abandoned loose cannabis were handed over to the Commission. While the Commission is aware that there were genuine people peddling their wares and merchandise on the street, there were also criminal elements that took advantage of this state of affairs and were involved in the illicit drug trade,” he said.

“Needless to say the clean-up of the CBD is a welcome move as a lot of criminal activity that was hiding under the umbrella of street vending has been nipped in the bud.

The Commission recognises the vital role law enforcement agencies play in ensuring the safety and security of public spaces and communities. This collaboration with the Police and other law enforcement agencies is in line with the Inter – Agency Framework Agreement which espouses unity in fighting crime in whatever form.

The Commission would also like to express its sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for its efforts in maintaining cleanliness and order in our streets and public spaces. A clean environment is key in curbing criminality, as it helps uncover and deter illicit activities.”

Saudi Arabia gives 2 million to COMESA for construction of headquarters

0

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has handed over a two million United States dollar cheque to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

Speaking during the handover of the cheque to COMESA, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Zambia Ali SAAD Alkahtani said the funds are meant to go towards the construction of the COMESA headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia.

Mr. Alkahtani said the two million United States dollars is part of the support from the Kingdom towards the construction of a permanent headquarters of COMESA.

“I have the pleasure of handing over a cheque for the support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to COMESA, through an initial amount of two million United States dollars for the construction of the permanent headquarters of COMESA in Lusaka,” He said.

He said the donation is evidence of the strong bilateral relations that exist between the Kingdom and COMESA.

Mr. Alkahtani said the relationship is based on mutual respect and joint action in all fields.

He stressed that the donation is an affirmation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s support of the efforts being made by COMESA to enhance regional integration.

And speaking shortly after receiving the cheque, COMESA Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the financing support rendered to the organization towards the construction of the new COMESA headquarters valued at 35 million United States dollars.

“I am honoured to receive the cheque of two million United States dollars from the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as support towards the financing of the construction of the new COMESA headquarters which is valued at around USD 35 million,” She said.

Ms. Kapwepwe said the donation has come at an opportune time when the organization is about to embark on a full-fledged resource mobilization aimed at raising funding for the construction of the COMESA headquarters building.

She disclosed that the current COMESA building is small, hence the move to build a bigger headquarters that will accommodate all the projects being undertaken by COMESA.

Ms. Kapwepwe said there is an urgent need to construct a new headquarters, in order to enable COMESA to house its activities under one roof.

She said the construction of a new building will enable COMESA to put up an ultra-modern and environment friendly headquarters befitting the COMESA of today.

Zimbabwe to hold elections under alarming human violations – Amnesty International

ZIMBABWE’s July 2023 general election will be held under a five-year systematic, brutal crackdown on human rights, restrictions on political opposition gatherings, violent suppression of protests and criminalization of state critics, Amnesty International has said.

In a statement released Wednesday, Amnesty International said since the inception of the new dispensation, the rights to freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly have been relentlessly suppressed amid a sustained crackdown against those who have demanded accountability from the government.

“What we have seen in Zimbabwe over the past five years amounts to a brutal crackdown on human rights, especially the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association.

‘’Respect for socio-economic rights has also declined dramatically, leaving many people in abject poverty with no means to put food on the table,” Southern Africa’s Amnesty International deputy director Khanyo Farisè said.

Farise added that the Zimbabwean authorities have revealed their brazen contempt for basic freedoms and shown that there is no space for dissent in the ‘second republic’.

The statement added that the police had repeatedly resorted to excessive use of force to suppress human rights, including the right to peaceful assembly.

The human rights body stated that organized protests against allegations of corruption, journalists, members of the political opposition and human rights activists have all been targeted for criticizing the government.

“Almost a fortnight ago, President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed into law the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Amendment Bill, 2022, commonly referred to as the “Patriotic Bill”, further criminalizing dissent for among others, “upsetting” a constitutionally elected government.

The human rights watchdog added that authorities have increasingly targeted leaders of the political opposition, journalists and activists by weaponizing the law among them Hopewell Chin’ono, a prominent journalist who exposed a multimillion-dollar pandemic -related corruption case, and Jacob Ngarivhume, a political activist who called for a nationwide protest against allegations of corruption on July 31, 2020.

The two were arrested and detained in July 2020 to stifle their criticism.

Another politician and opposition Member of Parliament Jacob Sikhala was convicted on charges of “obstructing justice” and handed a six-month suspended sentence.

Sikhala is still languishing in jail for other charges.

Zimbabwean author and activist Tsitsi Dangarembga and fellow protester Julie Barnes were each convicted of “inciting violence” after participating in the July 20, 2020 protests against economic hardship in September 2020 and handed a fine of ZW$70,000.

They were each handed a six-month suspended sentence, which they later successfully challenged in court.

On June 10, 2020, three ex-MDC-Alliance youth leaders, now members of the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change, Joana Mamombe, Cecillia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, were arrested and charged with falsifying their abduction and torture at the hands of suspected state security agents.

They were prosecuted for three years, before eventually being acquitted earlier this month, apart from Netsai Marova, who went into exile before the trial was concluded.

“Over the past five years, the Zimbabwean authorities have demonstrated little or no respect for human rights and have repeatedly flouted the rule of law.

‘’As political campaigning enters full swing, the authorities must ensure that people are able to freely exercise their rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. Authorities must respect, protect, promote and fulfil the human rights of everyone before, during and after the election,” said Farisè.

President Emerson Mnangagwa’s rise to power was against the background of the killings of protesters following post-election violence on August 1, 2018, after the July 31, 2018 election.

Six people were killed, and 35 others injured, after soldiers fired live ammunition at people fleeing post-election protests in Harare.

Although the President has called for peace during the election period, fears are high the country might be dominated by violence.

Police on Monday told observer missions in Harare that they are ready for the elections with human resources and vehicles available to monitor and prevent any incidents of violence.

Barack Obama’s personal chef Tafari Campbell has been found dead near the ex-President’s home

The personal chef for Barack Obama was reported missing while paddle boarding in Martha’s Vineyard and was later found dead.

Tafari Campbell, a former sous cook at the White House, has been named as the missing paddle boarder.

The body of the 45-year-old was discovered about 10am next to the former president’s expansive $12 million (USD $11.75 million) estate.

On the weekend, Campbell vanished while paddling on Massachusetts’ Edgartown Great Pond with another paddle boarder.

After Campbell went missing, emergency personnel were called to Obama’s home.

By using side-scan sonar from a boat, Massachusetts Environmental Police officers discovered him around 100 feet from shore, at a depth of roughly eight feet.

Authorities stated in a statement that Edgartown Police and the State Police Detective Unit for the Cape and Islands District were both conducting the investigation into the fatality.

Campbell “was a part of the family,” the Obamas said in a moving message they posted shortly after his passing was confirmed.

He was a skilled sous chef at the White House when we first met him. He was imaginative and passionate about food and its capacity to unite people. We grew to know him as a warm, jovial, incredibly kind person who made all of our lives a little bit brighter in the years that followed,” the statement said.

That’s why, when we were getting ready to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. He’s been part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he’s gone.

“Today we join everyone who knew and loved Tafari — especially his wife Sherise and their twin boys, Xavier and Savin — in grieving the loss of a truly wonderful man.”

According to ABC News, Campbell was visiting Martha’s Vineyard at the time of the incident; however, the Obamas were not home when it happened.

The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit is investigating the accident for the Cape and Islands District and Edgartown Police.

The sous chef served as a personal chef to the former President and was just one of four chefs asked to stay on following the George W. Bush administration.

During Obama’s reign, Campbell became best known for brewing White House honey ale beer by using the honey from Michelle’s South Lawn garden.

Campbell often visited Martha’s Vineyard and frequently played golf nearby Farm Neck Golf Club.

BBC apologises after reporter asked Moroccan captain if there are gay players in their team

0

The BBC has apologized for an “inappropriate” question one of its reporters asked the captain of the Morocco women’s national team.

At a media conference ahead of Morocco’s Women’s World Cup opener against Germany, a reporter from the British news organization’s World Service asked Ghizlane Chebbak: “In Morocco, it’s illegal to have a gay relationship. Do you have any gay players in your squad and what’s life like for them in Morocco?”

The press conference moderator interjected, saying: “Sorry, this is a very political question, so we’ll just stick to questions relating to football.”

“No, it’s not political,” the journalist replied. “It’s about people, it’s got nothing to do with politics. Please let her answer the question.”

A BBC spokesperson told CNN: “We recognise that the question was inappropriate. We had no intention to cause any harm or distress.”

There was then one more question before the press conference was ended.

According to Human Rights Watch, “Moroccan law also criminalizes what it refers to as acts of ‘sexual deviancy’ between members of the same sex. Article 489 of the penal code punishes same-sex relations with prison terms of up to three years and fines of up to 1,000 dirhams ($91).”

The Athletic’s Steph Yang, who was in the room, said that “some members of the Moroccan media were audibly dismayed by the question.”

Shireen Ahmed, a reporter for CBC Sports who was also in the room, wrote that the reporter was “completely out of line.”

“Harm reduction matters and posing the question to the captain or coach was unnecessary,” she added.

“Asking a player about her teammates and whether they are gay and how it affects them when you know it is not permissible is bizarre and out of line. The captain cannot out players nor comment on policy bc [because] it could be dangerous for them, too,” Ahmed wrote.

“If reporting harms someone, it is not only unethical but dangerous.”

CNN has learned that a FIFA representative addressed the BBC journalist on site immediately after the press conference had ended.

The Moroccan Football Federation did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.

Morocco began its 2023 Women’s World Cup campaign with a heavy 6-0 defeat by Germany on Monday.

World soccer governing body FIFA is allowing a variety of different armbands that highlight “a range of social causes” to be worn at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

During the tournament, team captains are each allowed to wear an armband chosen from eight different social causes, including gender equality, inclusion and peace.

There is no explicit mention of LGBTQ rights in Women’s World Cup armbands, beyond the themes of “gender equality” and “inclusion.”

LeBron James’ 18-Year-Old Son Bronny James Suffers Cardiac Arrest During Workout at USC

LeBron James’ 18-year-old son Bronny was rushed to a hospital after suffering from cardiac arrest during a basketball workout at USC, a family spokesperson has confirmed.

LeBron James‘ son Bronny is on the mend after a serious medical scare.

The 18-year-old was rushed to the hospital July 24 after having suffered cardiac arrest during basketball practice at the University of Southern California, a family spokesperson confirmed to E! News.

“Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital,” the family spokesperson said in a statement. “He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update when there is more information.”

His parents, NBA champ LeBron and Savannah James “wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff,” the message continued, “for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”

The college freshman’s health scare comes a little less than two weeks after he attended the 2023 ESPYS with his family, including siblings Bryce James, 16, and Zhuri James, 8.

During the July 12 award ceremony, LeBron, who won the trophy for Best Record-Breaking Performance, took the opportunity to give Bronny—predicted to be a top candidate in the 2024 NBA draft—and his brother a shoutout.

“I’m so proud of these two men standing right behind me tonight,” he said of Bronny and his brother Bryce. “You see, they’re on their own basketball journey. And no matter how far they choose to go, they’re not cheating this game and that inspires me.”

In fact, LeBron’s oldest son serves as such inspiration that the 38-year-old has declared he will continue to play so that he and Bronny can be teammates before he retires.

“My last year will be played with my son,” LeBron told The Atlantic in February of last year. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”

Kim launches missile test as show of might as the US dispatches submarine to South Korea

0

In an apparent protest against the deployment of US Navy vessels in the region, North Korea has fired at least one ballistic missile into the ocean.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea withheld information regarding the missile’s launch location and flight duration.

They asserted that the launch occurred just hours after the USS Annapolis, a nuclear-powered US submarine, docked at Jeju Island, the largest island in South Korea.

The US has steadily increased its presence in the waters east of the Korean peninsula, part of its own show of force amid signs of Pyongyang’s growing willingness to conduct nuclear attacks.

Just last week, a nuclear-armed submarine, the USS Kentucky, became the first such vessel to come to South Korea in more than forty years.

North Korea responded in much the same way, again test-firing ballistic and cruise missiles in an apparent attempt to demonstrate its capacity to strike both the US vessels and South Korean territory.

The tests were accompanied by strong words from despotic leader Kim Jong-un, who warned such increased presence would likely meet the hermit kingdom’s criteria for a nuclear attack.

Both Korean nations have continued to ramp up military drills in recent months.

Experts have warned that further proof-testing of new missile designs within North Korean territory also risks contaminating the country’s water supply.

Dr Olli Heinonen, formerly director general of nuclear watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency, previously said: ‘Water from melting snow and rain can enter in through cracks and wash out fission products and plutonium.

‘It can transport it with the groundwater, into a small river passing the [test] site, and on to agricultural sites and towns downstream.’

He added: ‘Such contamination could enter into food chains and accumulate in agriculture products, fish, meat and eventually in people.’

In the 1990s, a devastating famine is estimated to have killed as many as three million people in North Korea.

According to testimony from people living under the Kim regime, the situation is now almost as dire as it was then, following the government’s decision to seal its borders in 2020, cutting off vital supplies.

Nuclear contamination would further exacerbate food shortages in a country where, due to the government’s strict informational policing, an unknown portion of some 26 million people are likely facing starvation.

ZAMBIA’S NEWS CONFERENCE CUT SHORT OVER SEX ALLEGATION QUESTIONS

ZAMBIA’S news conference to preview Wednesday’s World Cup match against Spain was ended early due to persistent questions about an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against the team’s coach, Bruce Mwape.

After the FIFA media officer vetoed one question, Mwape did respond to one journalist who asked if it would be for the good of the team if he stepped aside to allow them to focus solely on the football.

“What environment affecting the team in particular?” he said. “What are you talking about? I would like to know because there is no way I can retire without reason.

“Maybe your reason is because what you are reading from the media or from the press, but the truth of the matter should actually come out, not just on rumours.”

Further questions were shut down by both the FIFA and Zambia press officers, with the former then ending the news conference early, leaving several journalists without a question.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announced last September they had referred an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse in the women’s game to FIFA, football’s governing body. The Guardian revealed in July that Mwape was among those being investigated.

Mwape was appointed as Zambia coach in 2018 and has led them to their first-ever World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Upon the publication of The Guardian’s article — which featured an anonymous player who did not want to be named saying “if he [Mwape] wants to sleep with someone, you have to say yes” — the FAZ referred to the statement they made last September.

A FIFA spokesperson said it could not comment on ongoing investigations.

Zambia opened their World Cup with a 5-0 defeat to Japan, dampening the enthusiasm which had built following a surprise 3-2 friendly win over Germany earlier in July.

They play Spain, who opened with a 3-0 victory over Costa Rica last week, in their second group game in Auckland on Wednesday.

However, Spain coach Jorge Vilda has warned his side against underestimating their opponents.

“Don’t let the result and game against Japan fool you,” he said in a news conference. “Zambia beat Germany and are capable of beating anyone.

“In general, we had not given credit to what a great team Japan are. They could have scored more, but that doesn’t mean Zambia won’t be dangerous beyond [Racheal] Kundananji and [Barbra] Banda. They are quick on the counter attack and take advantage of any little mistake you make.”

Vilda added Spain have a fully fit squad to choose from and that back-to-back Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas, who has still not played 90 minutes since recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, has trained well this week.

He is hoping the quality of Spain’s football could give them the edge in what he feels has been a very physical tournament so far.

“Based on what we’ve seen, it could be the most physical World Cup ever and the one in which everything is more balanced physically between all the teams,” he said.

“National teams are working better and better and have more resources available to them, which means results are closer. That’s the future, but I also think with physical equality, football will prevail.”

The Illusion Of Pure Capitalism That Is Devoid Of Subsidies: The Case Of A Traitor Or Just A Naive Incompetent Misfit?- Sean Tembo

0

THE ILLUSION OF PURE CAPITALISM THAT IS DEVOID OF SUBSIDIES: THE CASE OF A TRAITOR OR JUST A NAIVE INCOMPETENT MISFIT?

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. President Hakainde Hichilema is one of two things; either he is a traitor who is hell-bent to totally destroy the Zambian economy in collaboration with his Western puppet masters, or he is so naive and incompetent that he believes in the illusion of pure capitalism that is devoid of any sort of subsidies as peddled by Western puppet masters through institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

2. As we speak right now, all key production inputs such as fuel and electricity have been hiked to unaffordable levels under the guise of cost-reflective prices and ostensibly peddled by Western puppet masters such as the IMF. This has not only skyrocketed the cost of living, but has also destroyed the productive capacity of our economy. The same productive capacity that we are supposed to be growing if we are going to turnaround and grow our economy. Examples of the destruction of our productive capacity are abundant, including the recent closure of more than 50 Manganese mines across the country because they cannot afford ZESCO’s absurd new tariffs.

3. Look here, if we had a serious Government in office, it would have realized that ZESCO does not need to increase its tariffs in order to make them cost-reflective. What ZESCO needs to do is to increase the efficiency of it’s operations and cut the pilferage of financial resources that is done through exaggerated tender prices and ridiculously high salaries and allowances for senior Management, the majority of whom are well-known UPND party members or brothers, sisters, uncle’s and aunties of President Hakainde Hichilema. If ZESCO’s inefficiency and wastage is arrested, then the consumer does not need to be punished with high tariffs and our industrial base, including the Manganese mining sector will remain intact and continue to employ the few Zambians that it currently employs.

4. Similarly, the ultimate solution to high fuel prices is two-fold. Firstly we need to construct strategic storage facilities for crude oil, which can store hundreds of millions of barrels of crude oil at any given time to sustain us for at least 10 years, so that when world prices are low, as they were at the inception of the pandemic, then we can buy plenty of crude oil at cheap prices and store it. When world prices for oil are high, then we can utilize what we have in storage until the world prices drop, at which point we then replenish our strategic reserves. The second part of the solution to the high fuel prices requires the establishment of fuel processing plants in each provincial center with a network of oil pipelines from our strategic storage facilities to the provincial oil processing centers so that we reduce the cost of road transportation which is often high.

5. However, instead of developing a program of constructing INDENI plants in the other 9 provincial centers being Lusaka, Choma, Mongu, Chipata, Kasama, Mansa, Solwezi etcetera, President Hakainde Hichilema has instead decided to destroy our one and only crude oil processing facility at INDENI and converted it into a depot for imported petrol and diesel. That is the behavior of a traitor not a Republican President who cares about the future of this nation.

6. As we speak right now, the New Dawn administration is talking about cancelling the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP) and replacing it with a loan scheme were peasant farmers will be given loans which, if they fail to pay out of their harvest, then they’ll not be eligible for another loan in the next farming season. I can assure you fellow countrymen and women that this is a ploy to stop the assistance that was being rendered to vulnerable peasant farmers for more than 20 years. There is no way that a peasant farmer will be able to pay back a loan from their harvest when Government has a very erratic crop marketing policy whereby one minute they tell you to grow soya beans because a market has been secured in China, then the next minute the President tells you that his Government will not buy any soya beans. That, country men and women is not the behavior of a caring Republican President. It is the behavior of a traitor who wants to destroy every aspect of the Zambian economy.

7. If by some chance, President Hakainde Hichilema is not a traitor but is just grossly incompetent and naive to swallow the IMF bait of bad policies hook, line and sinker, then he must be so incompetent that he is probably unable to even tie his own shoe laces. Because only such a misfit can adopt and embrace the ridiculous IMF policies without questioning anything. Policies that require you to increase electricity tariffs to unaffordable levels to the extent of destroying the productive capacity of your economy. Policies that require you to strip your only crude oil processing capacity at INDENI and completely rely on the processing capacity of a neighboring country in Tanzania. Policies that require you to impoverish and starve your own peasant farmers through the withdrawal of FISP and erratic crop marketing policies which flip-flop like pata-patas.

8. In case President Hakainde Hichilema is infinitely naive to believe that there is an economy in the world that can run devoid of subsidies, he must be reminded that even the United States of America itself heavily subsidizes not only it’s various economic sectors but it’s individual citizens as well. If during the pandemic, US citizens were being given handouts of cash into their bank accounts, then why should the IMF tell us that we can’t give FISP to our most vulnerable citizens? If the US, the mother of capitalism can subsidize it’s wheat farmers when China decides to temporarily close it’s market, then why can’t we do the same. The bottom line is that there is no such thing as pure capitalism which the IMF wants to impose on us, but do not themselves practice back home. Only a traitor or a naive incompetent misfit can adopt the ridiculous IMF policies hook, line and sinker. The question is; which one of the two is President Hakainde Hichilema?

OVER THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE HAVE ACCESSED NAPSA PARTIAL WITHDRAWALS

OVER THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE HAVE ACCESSED NAPSA PARTIAL WITHDRAWALS

…. a total of K7.7 billion has been paid to beneficiaries

Government has disclosed that as of 30th June 2023, a total of 332, 493 members have been paid a total of K7.7 billion under the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) partial withdraw initiative.

Delivering a ministerial statement in Parliament this afternoon, Minister of Labor and Social Security Hon Brenda Tambatamba says there has been an overwhelming response from the general public toward the pre-retirement benefits.

“Madam Speaker, you may wish to note that of the 332,493 members paid as of 30th June, 2023:
15 percent or 48,661 members were female who received 16 percent of the total payout or K1.2 billion 85 percent or 283,832 were male who received K6.4 billion. Further, I wish to state that the youth have also benefited from pre-retirement benefits. A total of K777 million has been paid to 60,240 members of the scheme aged 20-34 years who make up 18 percent of the total members paid. The age group 35-49 years old received a total of K5.3 billion while 53,861 or 16 percent of members paid were in the age group above 50 years old received K1.6 billion as of 30th June, 2023,” she told the House.

The Minister also said government is also cognisant of the challenges faced by some members of the scheme in accessing their pre-retirement benefits.

“Some of the reasons that have led to these challenges include: Mismatch of member details with key service providers such as banks and mobile network operators which the authority has identified as critical institutions for the validation of member details. Non – remittance of member contributions by some employers has resulted in some members failing to meet the eligibility criteria of 60 months of contributions and therefore unable to claim the pre – retirement lump sum benefit. The legacy issue of duplicated national registration cards,” she added.

“To address the challenges faced by the members, the National Pension Scheme Authority, has instituted the following measures: Extended hours of operations of the customer service centre from 08:00 – 17: 00 hours to 06:00 – 22:00 hours to allow huge outturns of members who seek assistance with verification of member details and onboarding to facilitate for claim process. The authority has engaged the most affected employers which include among other local authorities, quasi-government institutions, and private employers to make good of contributions as provided for by the NPS Act No. 40 of 1996.”

Hon Tambatamba explained that in order to mitigate the challenge of shared NRCs, the Authority has established a dedicated unit comprising of desk officers responsible for continuously engaging and collaborating with the national registration office for the identification of rightful owners.

“Madam Speaker, as I conclude, allow me to state that the implementation of the pre-retirement benefits has also raised awareness amongst the general public on the importance of pensions. Further, it has exposed employers who have not been remitting their employees’ contributions to the scheme. The new dawn government will continue in the medium and long term to undertake broad social security reforms to ensure that the existing social security schemes are well subscribed and responsive to the needs of our citizens,” she concluded.

The Rise & Fall Of President Hakainde Hichilema- A Possible One Term President- Ibrahim Mwamba

0

By Ibrahim Kabwe mwamba

THE RISE & Fall OF PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA-
A POSSIBLE ONE TERM PRESIDENT.

-PART 1

Known as President HH by many across the sphere and among Zambians.

Here is how President HH may have attained great power yet loose it within a mandate of 5years.

In my opinion, UPND won the 2021 election not because they had might and grit that was outstanding but because people of Zambia got fade up with The PF’s arrogance, lawlessness and bad governance.

The biggest opposition in 2021 was not the UPND but it was The Economy and The People of Zambia from all parties that united as one to deny their own political parties a vote and give UPND a vote in protest of the PF rule.

Today UPND may enjoy a sense of comfort for not having a formidable or united opposition but then soon or later HH needs to realize that it is more dangerous not to have a strong opposition at this point given the 1,276 days remaining till next election. This because UPND does not know their opponent neither do they have familiarity of what Zambians may decide to go with come 2026 because even at war you need to study your opponent. In this case,HH and UPND have no idea what sort of strategy or style could possibly work to combat an aggressive opponent.

Looking at the levels of greed, hypocrisy and selfishness among top UPND leadership/partners including business associates who are minting and currently not talking despite the hardships people are going through because it is bad manners to talk while chewing , it remains not far fetched a possibility that disgruntled UPND MP’s and disgruntled PF MP’s may find a common/mutual ground and work together to field a candidate that may retire HH and also put a stop to PF confusion that is anchored on greed and intolerance. This threat/possibility is very eminent because one can easily read through the lines how UPND ,PF & Independent MP’s engage each other even outside parliament grounds. This could be the beginning of the end for HH because he has failed to honor deserving individuals that worked with him in opposition.

Yes , the President won profoundly with massive support from the greater majority of society. However, he has reduced his status in the eyes of like minded Zambians that are facing serious economic challenges that clearly he has reluctantly failed to address. Yes , the government has employed more teachers and health workers that did not have employment after training prior to him taking over. But here is something we as Zambians need to focus on and ask questions without prejudice.

A driver once said , it is easy to envy a car that seemingly look as if it only needs tyre replacement not until you you become the driver and realize you need to work on the engine more importantly and deal with tyre mending at a later stage -> This illustration is equal to what HH found, hence the statement from him ,”The treasury is empty “. But sadly, he started well then from no way his stopped working on fixing the engine to fixing the music system meaning his neglected the tyres , engine (economy) now focusing on the music system ( just talking and praising himself)

1. Is it not part of Government’s responsibility to create employment among its very own Citizens? My guess remains as good as yours.

2.Has Government provided reasonable accommodation or healthy amenities/living conditions for the newly recruited Civil Servants? My guess still remain as only good as yours .
In all truth and patriotism, the newly elected President HH has delivered in terms of sanity (no more carders harassing citizens) and he has demonstrated a sound economic message for what he intends to do going forward. However, we have a challenge because based on his promises of zero corruption and smart governance, the man has failed to deliver. He promised the common basic needs and the basic needs are now far fetched to attain by the common man( refer to the price of basic commodities).

I wish to categorically state that indeed the government under HH is trying hard to address these critical challenges that we the people of Zambia are facing but I believe an example or scenario would attempt to give a much fair, balanced and easy to understand model of our current economic theory.
According to Milton Keynesians (Economic model) they believe that, because prices are somewhat rigid, fluctuations in any component of spending—consumption, investment, or government expenditures—cause output to change. If government spending increases, for example, and all other spending components remain constant, then output will increase or reduce.

This theory goes to say, “ to secure strong and inclusive growth which benefits businesses and residents, and to sustain the reputation of MK as a prosperous model, innovative and culturally vibrant economic approach need to be in place which are key to economic growth. In short, what MK is saying is simply what grows an “Economy is Expenditure” meaning the Government has to spend money in the local economy for it to grow. Strange enough, HH government has not done much to the latter such as spending money in the local Economy for example, PAYING OFF LOCAL DEBTS OWED BY GOVERNMENT TO LOCAL CONTRACTORS/SUPPLIERS OF GOODS AND SERVICES.

When you decide to prioritize servicing international debt over local debt, you starve an economy hence every Zambian alike is constantly complaining about cash flow..President and his team in this case HH & business partners in charge of our economy have decided to focus on making a good impression to their potential future business associates overseas at the expense of serving the very people who have given him (them) a mandate to rule.

What we are experiencing today is a serious lack of patriotism whereby, a leader is more concerned on how a foreign entity view him as a prospective business man in his future endeavors than what we his own people should view him as President.

The President has failed to distinguish between GOVERNANCE and BUSINESS because if he truly had good intentions by now he’d have relinquished most of his shareholding in private business outfits such as African Life .

Yes,it is a well known fact that HH may not have significant influence (Shares) in African Life but truly speaking everyone knows Mr Muna Hantuba is a close associate and business ally to HH as way back as Mr Anderson Mazoka (MHSRIP) era. The two started running businesses together (Anglo-American days) therefore,it is obvious we know HH at the peak of his political career he had to intrust Mr Muna Hantuba as his trustee to hold on to his shareholding component in African Life which was a smart yet cunning business move because today as we interact further, clearly this may end in tears..Que;is WHY ? …he has managed to affirm the very sense of reservations Zambians had about him as HH and his role during the privatization exercise at a very tender age of 27yrs.

What HH did at 27yrs anyone could have done but one would need to be very exceptional for a youth. However,we do not expect him to continue on this trajectory as head of state because he may not be in a position to explain how his managed to attain the billionaire status for him and his partners (Muna Hantuba & Valentine Chitalu) within a space of 5yrs keeping in view not long ago we have seen The Ministry of Mines advert on a lucrative Environmental fund management tender/contract this being notice of award to African-Life not ZISC for Zambians but African-Life for Business associates/partners (Pls note as of 2015,the fund was seating at $35 million )

WHAT SHOULD HH DO FOR ZAMBIANS?

What HH needs to do;
1. HH needs to let go of his influence in most of these companies that are getting lucrative contracts ASAP and listen to Zambians not his partners in running the affairs of Zambians.(Fertilizer characters being awarded )
2. HH must realize that Zambians can not be fooled the same way he fooled us in the 90’s during privatization. Whereby,he had a silent/soft opportunity that pushed him into multiple millionaire status. He can still be a billionaire after 2031 but not this time.
3. HH needs to look after local interests and engage CHINA as soon as possible unlike what he did immediately we gave him power he took his maiden trip to the USA which was a wrong and selfish move for a head of state given what is at stake for Zambians because we owe CHINA more than 30% of our external debt.
4.HH needs to realize that local problems require local solutions, from time and again the people who advise HH have been engaged to advise the government so they could consider signing local MoU’s instead of flying in and out trying address issues of electricity, hunger and economic distress among the Zambian people.

-For example, Nigeria’s Dangote Group planned and managed to commission a US$50mn 30 MW power plant in Zambia in 2014/15, which is now supplying electricity to its cement factory in Ndola city in Masaiti. Why can’t FQM, Kalumbila, KCM and many other factories do the same to reduce our pressure on Zesco ?
-Why isn’t government working with commercial farmers through MoU’s to grow more food (Commercial crops / staple food ) using FISP for example, why not give a commercial farmer(s) who has capacity to grow 50,000MT of Maize, wheat, soya to increase their yield by an extra 20,000MT for government on an MoU basis to cover food security in partnership with Ministry of Agriculture?
5. This habit of selectively calling his business associates who are mostly of foreign origin to go for meetings marked “secret” should come to an end..It was disappointing that the President could chair such a meeting and this is how we have ended up with a fast track hotel at east park mall being built near a University because clearly that sort of always thinking profits will end up auctioning our very own.

CHILUFYA TAYALI DENIES HARASSING CHIEF MUKUNI

CHILUFYA TAYALI DENIES HARASSING CHIEF MUKUNI

ECONOMIC and equity party leader Chilufya Tayali has denied incriminating Chief Mukuni Munokalya Siloka for engineering terrorism activities of gassing homes and schools which hit the country in the early months of 2020.

The State made an application before Lusaka principal resident magistrate Sylvia Munyinya to amend the indictment by altering Chief Mukuni’s tittle from Senior Chief Mukuni to Chief Mukuni.

This was after the James Chileshe an assistant director in charge of chief affairs at the ministry of local government and rural development indicated that there’s only one traditional leader named chief Mukuni of the toka leya people in Southern province.

He affirmed that the only person who goes by the title Senior chief Mukuni is Phanwell Chikalakasa known as chief Mukuni Ng’ombe of the lenje speaking people in central province.

Public prosecutor Darlington Mukelelabo asked the court to invoke section 213 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) to amend the the particulars of the offence on the indictment by way of alteration of senior chief Mukuni to chief Mukuni based on the evidence adduced before Court.

Tayali’s lawyer Benjamin Mwelwa opposed the application on reasons that an injustice would be occasioned to Tayali.

“We object to the application as it is prejudicial to our client as the alteration goes to the root of the indictment which s the identity of the person in question which has been a contentious issue,”Mwelwa argued.

Tayali’s other lawyer Joseph Chirwa said though the State is allowed to amend a charge at anytime, there was a limitation in line with Article 18 of the constitution.

“The obligation to amend the charge cannot be done in the vacuum at the expense of a fair trial. The State cannot amend the charge in the eleventh hour. The horse has already left the stable the State cannot be given a second bite at the cherry to cure the mistakes. There are other avenues the state might exercise,” said Chirwa.

In reply Mukelelabo said the State would stand by its application to amend the charge at this stage.

“The provision of the law cited by the State permits an amendment of the charge at any stage of the trial before an accused is required to make a defence. It’s not yet a late hour we are within the provision of the law,” he said.

He said Section 213 of the CPC allows an amendment when the evidence and the particulars of the offence are at variance.

“Chief Mukuni said he is chief Mukuni and not senior chief Mukuni. The evidence speaks to chief Mukuni but there’s a typographical error on the charge. The alteration does not got to the root of the charge,” said Mukelelabo.

Magistrate Munyinya granted the application by the State and ordered that Tayali Takes fresh plea.

His lawyers requested for an adjournment in order to have an interface with their client in order to make him understand what transpired but magistrate Munyiya declined saying Tayali is sharp and was keenly following the proceedings.

Tayali took fresh plea after the matter was stood down for five minutes and denied his criminal charge.

He further requested that chief Mukuni be recalled to testify in the matter which application was granted by the Court.

Magistrate Munyinya adjourned the case to August 14.

Tayali 48 of house no.38, Ngwezi road Roma Township has been dragged to Court by Chief Mukuni for harassment by utilizing means of electronic communication.

Tayali on November 10, 2022 with intent to harass and cause emotional distress by use of computer system went live on his Facebook and issued a statement against senior chief Munokalya Siloka Mukuni alleging that he was the master minder of the gassing incidents that characterized the country between 2019 and 2020 for the purpose of getting then opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema out of prison.

FPI Condemns Harrassment Of Times Of Zambia Photojournalist By Chiengi MP Given Katuta

FPI CONDEMNS HARRASSMENT OF TIMES OF ZAMBIA PHOTOJOURNALIST BY CHIENGI MP
Lusaka, Tuesday, July 25, 2023
The Zambia Free Press Initiative (FPI) has condemned the alleged assault and spitting on a Times of Zambia Journalist, Henry Chunza, by Chiengi Member of Parliament, Ms Given Katuta.

FPI Founder and Executive Director, Joan Chirwa, says the behavior by Ms Katuta is regrettable especially that every member of parliament is expected to have some level of knowledge about the work of journalists.

After being suspended from Parliament by the Speaker of the National Assembly on Friday last week, Ms Katuta attempted to grab a camera from the Journalist when he took pictures of her as she was coming out of the house and in the process, spat on him.
“As Free Press Initiative (FPI), we are really concerned and saddened by the happenings at the National Assembly last week. We were informed of the harassment of Henry Chunza, a Photojournalist from the Times of Zambia by Chiengi Independent Member of Parliament Given Katuta whom we understand was assisted by other MPs to try and assault this journalist. And one of those MPs identified in the police statement was Chawama MP Tasila Lungu,” she said. “This is very disappointing behavior coming from MPs who are held in high esteem by members of the public, and especially electorates that entrusted them with a Hyde responsibility to represent them in the National Assembly.”

The FPI Executive Director said the National Assembly is a place that allows journalists to enter and do their work freely.
Ms Chirwa said the journalists could not have been allowed to do their work if at all it was a place where media personnel were not allowed to have access to.

She said the fact that Katuta was in a place where journalists were allowed to take photos meant that the journalist was supposed to carry out his work without interference.

Ms Chirwa said the nature of the assignment where the MP was told to walk out the House by the Speaker of the National Assembly is newsworthy for any journalist that has nose for news.
“No journalist can miss such an opportunity to take good pictures of the Honourable MP. I am not sure if I should even use the word Honourable in this respect especially that the conduct of this particular MP is totally dishonourable because we do not expect anything like that from MPs for that matter,” she said.

Ms Chirwa reminded MPs to understand the role of journalists and accord them the necessary respect whenever they are doing their work.
Ms Chirwa is disappointed that people entrusted to formulate laws are the ones in the forefront of breaking such laws through mistreatment of journalists.

“We saw her justification of whatever happened and unfortunately, without even a line of apology to the journalist that she harassed, that is very unfortunate,” she said.

Ms Chirwa has urged the police to handle the matter professionally for it to serve as a deterrent measure to others in the habit of assaulting journalists.

“We hope that she can do her own soul searching and we hope that the police can do their work because such conduct should not be tolerated at all. It is better that some lessons are learnt from what happened last week,” she said.

PASTOR FOUND GUILTY OF S£XUALLY ASS@ULTING TEEN

A NDOLA-BASED pastor has been found guilty of indecently ass@ulting a 17-year-old girl during prayers.

Pastor Gellion Jones, 28, has been convicted and committed to the High Court for sentencing by Ndola Magistrates Court.

Jones, a pastor of Kopaland Township, allegedly indecently ass@ulted a 17-year-old girl for three days in a church building in September last year.

In her testimony, the victim told the court that on the material day, she was with her boyfriend at Kambeba Police Post, where the latter was detained for alleged ass@ult.

She said after spending a night at the police post, she went to the pastor’s place in fear of her parents at home after being with the boyfriend, whom her parents did not approve of.

The victim claimed that while at the pastor’s place, she was given some water which made her dizzy after drinking it.

“When we reached there, Kelvin Lungu [her boyfriend] left me in the sitting room with his pastor, who gave me something like water to drink,” she said.

“The same liquid caused me to sleep and I only found myself nak£d the following morning in a certain room which had nothing but they claimed that it was used for prayers and offerings were done from there.”

The victim further claimed that Jones continued giving her the same liquid for three days until she was rescued from the place on the third day when her parents went searching for her.

In defence, Jones denied committing the offense stating that the period he was arrested, police in the campany of the victim, visited the church, where the incident is alleged to have happened.

He said when the victim was told to show the police the room where she was allege to have been indecently ass@ulted, she failed.

“She only showed up police a room where we put offerings baskets and it is an open room without keys where every church member has access,” he said.

But Magistrate veronica Sikwangala found Jones guilty stating that she believed the victim’s evidence especially that her mother told the court that her child went missing from home from the time the offence is alleged to have happened.

“I am, therefore, satisfied that the state has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and now, therefore, proceeds to convict the accused accordingly,” she said.

Magistrate Sikwangala however, stated that she had no power to sentence the convict and would commit him to the High Court for sentencing.

CSPR CALLS FOR A SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF STREET VENDING

CSPR CALLS FOR A SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF STREET VENDING

… the move by government to clean the Lusaka CBD has been long overdue

Lusaka… Tuesday July 25, 2023 (SMART EAGLES)

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) is commending government for clearing the Lusaka Central Business District (CBD) and ensuring that it is clean orderly and sanitary enabling ordinary citizens to operate in a clean environment as provided for by the Market and Bus Station Act.

CSPR Executive Director Faides TembaTemba says the move by government to clean the CBD has been long overdue, the action has not only averted an outbreak of communicable diseases such as Cholera but is also a safety measure against accidents for both traders and motorists.

“We note that the problem of street vending is a source of livelihood in the informal economy, and it is known to be an old practice that has always had a presence in major cities within the country. With an ever-increasing number of streets vendors, it is hard to know the population of the people on the streets, since provision of alternative livelihoods and business opportunities for the jobless youths and women can easily be accessed on the streets,” she said.

“However, the forgoing makes it difficult to provide social amenities, management of solid waste disposal, nonpayment of taxes, road traffic congestion and accidents and the congestion increases crime such as pickpocketing and provision of sanitary services becomes a challenge. Further, its informal nature makes it difficult for the traders to access government empowerment schemes such as the Citizen Economic Empowerment (CEE) Programme, Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and Marketers Empowerment programs.”

Ms TembaTemba said while CSPR recognizes efforts by government in putting up formal market infrastructures, such as the new Soweto Market across the country, he organization is calling on government to put up a comprehensive economic strategy with interrelated components for the creation of more employment opportunities through employment intensive growth and formalizing informal enterprises through a context-specific mix of incentives.

“In addition, the government must consider making the law on street vending relevant to the economic situation of today with high unemployment rates.
Therefore, instead of allowing street vendors to becoming illegal tax evaders, government needs to designate gazette areas for street vending so that the vice does not reoccur as been observed with previous governments,” she added.

“As an organization we are against the practice of allowing street venders to operate for political expedience thereby creating a stable livelihood for the vulnerable which gets disrupted each time vendors are forced out of the streets.
CSPR, further commends government for making consultations with various stakeholders in its decision to remove street vendors from the CBD, however, government needs to come up with an informal local economic strategy developed jointly by government, key stakeholders like business companies, civil society organizations, the church, local entrepreneurs and the street vendors. This can help build consensus on regulatory and enforcement of laws and in turn help the government to come up with actual needs of the vendors instead of responding to assumed needs such as building formal market infrastructure for all.”

Nigeria sitting dangerously on keg of Gunpowder – Olusegun Obasanjo

Former Nigeria President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has given a dire assessment of Nigeria stating that the country is sitting perilously on a keg of gunpowder.

Obasanjo said the country is pushing many citizens into poverty because of poor implementation of good policies and that over the past 63 years, the nation not lived up to expectations as the much-taunted giant of Africa.

The former president spoke in Abuja on Monday, July 24 in a keynote address at the public presentation of a book titled, “Reclaiming the Jewel of Africa,” written by Olusegun Aganga, a former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, who had also served as Minister of Finance .

Obasanjo, who addressed the audience at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, virtually, said even though “Nigeria is a potential jewel of Africa, if you want to put it that way, we have never attained that position. Can you reclaim what you have never had or attained?”

“Over the last 63 years, we have not lived up to expectations. We have disappointed ourselves; we have disappointed Africa; we have disappointed the black race; and we have disappointed the world.”

“What Segun (Aganga) has tried to identify, itemise and recommend in his book is the way forward. But the beginning of charting a new course for ourselves is to admit our failure because we have not always put the round peg in the round hole.

“We are carried along by ego and emotion of self, selfishness and self-centeredness, ethnic and religious jingoism, with total lack of understanding of the world we live in and gross misunderstanding of what development entails and how to move fast and continuously on the trajectory of development.”

Obasanjo identified two major factors for all-round development.

“These are peace and security, which we cannot achieve without justice, equity and inclusive society,” he said.

“And telling ourselves the truth, we have not done well on these scores in the recent past — in the last decade and a half.

“I will also point at the issue of education, where over 20 million children that should be in school are not in school. We do not need an oracle to tell us the consequences of that for tomorrow.”

“We do not need to look far for the remote causes of banditry, Boko Haram, kidnapping and other organised crimes.

“We are living dangerously on a keg of gunpowder, driving more people into poverty through good policies poorly and thoughtlessly implemented or bad policy and no policy at all.”

“The point I am making is that we have, both at home and in the diaspora, Nigerians who have attained world and best standard in their character, professions, attributes, performance and reputation in all walks of life. With such men and women, why are we underperforming at home?”

However, Obasanjo said, “Here I have my first minor disagreement with Segun on this book. It is not in terms of the content, which I will come to later, but in terms of the title. Should it be Reclaiming or Claiming the Jewel of Africa? If we have not reached there, which we have not, our first assignment is to reach there.

“Not long ago, I decided to have on record the experiences of some of the Nigerian ambassadors from independence to date. One of the first set of ambassadors, Ambassador Ogunsulire, during the interview, recollected that at the first meeting of the United Nations General Assembly attended by Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa for the admission of Nigeria as a member of the United Nations on October 7, 1960, Nigeria was referred to as Giant in the sun.”

The book, which offered a “blueprint for taking Nigeria and Africa from potential to posterity”, was launched by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, Mr. Wale Edun.

Zimbabwe election offers regime a last chance to end financial isolation- Financial Times

By Financial Times

Vote’s fairness will determine whether President Emmerson Mnangagwa can oversee an international re-engagement
JEFFRIES Ncube looks around Zimbabwe’s second city and fallen industrial heartland and observes that, for all President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s promises to resurrect a ruined economy, many of Bulawayo’s factories have turned into places to pray for the next life, not to profit in this one.

“If you go around the industrial area you notice that several companies have closed down and some are now being used as churches,” said Ncube, 55, who formerly worked at a large garment factory.

Bulawayo used to supply food as far afield as Europe, as its warehouses and railheads knitted Zimbabwe into supply chains across southern Africa. All this was destroyed amid decades of economic chaos under the late Robert Mugabe, with little improvement since Mnangagwa overthrew his former boss six years ago.

As Mnangagwa bids for re-election next month, international judgment on the vote’s fairness will determine whether the one-time spy chief can turn around the economy and reboot the re-engagement that was undermined by his Zanu-PF party’s reversion to violence and corruption during and after the last poll in 2018.

In particular the August 23 vote will be critical to the success of African-led negotiations to end Zimbabwe’s financial isolation and clear decades of unpaid loans that make up the bulk of its $14bn external debt, according to analysts.

“This is one of the clearest and best opportunities that [the regime] have had or they’re likely to get,” said Ringisai Chikohomero, a Zimbabwe-based researcher at the South African Institute for Security Studies.

Mugabe stopped paying the World Bank and others years ago, and there have been many failed endeavours since to clear the debts in return for reforms. Without a deal there are limits on new loans needed to revitalise Zimbabwe and rebuild its foreign reserves, leaving its economy stricken.

Ncube, the former garment factory worker, is just one of countless Zimbabweans now forced to rely on odd jobs and street vending to feed their families.

Yet analysts say this time is different, with the 80-year-old Mnangagwa boxed in by triple-digit inflation and a collapsed currency. Chikohomero said the president had “no strategy but a string of survival tactics that are short-term and immediate.”

Zimbabwe has become an economic basket-case, wracked by shortages, high-level graft by figures linked to Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF and a patronage system based on artificial exchange rates that has wrecked the central bank and the Zimbabwe dollar.

“[Mnangagwa] has failed to arrest corruption which has seen the country losing billions of dollars to inflated prices of goods and services and the smuggling of minerals,” said Farai Muguwu, director of the Harare-based Centre for Natural Resource Governance. He also noted how Zimbabwe used a “surrogate currency that’s not accepted anywhere else in the world and is rejected even by some government agencies.”

One difference now is that the brokers of these talks — African Development Bank president Akinwumi Adesina and Joaquim Chissano, former leader of Mozambique from Zanu-PF’s cousin liberation movement Frelimo — have clout with both the creditors and the ruling party.

Zimbabwe’s neighbours have also become frustrated that Harare has effectively blocked regional hopes for greater integration — enough for them to pressure Zanu-PF to commit to political liberties and compensation for Mugabe-era land seizures, even as they call for rollback of western sanctions on the party’s elite.

Nicole Beardsworth, politics lecturer at Johannesburg’s Wits university, said the “chorus from the continent against sanctions has been almost unanimous,” calling it “perhaps the most successful part of Zimbabwe’s re-engagement drive”.

Yet she also stressed that Mnangagwa had “little interest in reform” at home. Rights groups have condemned his ‘Patriotic Bill’ which they say is the latest attempt to stifle political opposition. The bill, signed last week, threatens the death penalty for anyone “wilfully injuring the sovereignty and national interest of Zimbabwe”.

Yet analysts say that even western governments are likely to set a low bar for what counts as a fair vote next month — although a repeat of the violent crackdowns that marred the 2018 election would not be accepted.

They also note that, despite Zimbabwe’s economic woes, investment has begun to trickle in. Zimbabwe recorded about $150mn of foreign and local investment in the first three months of 2023, according to the country’s investor promotion agency. The list is dominated by Chinese investors and includes the issuance of dozens of licences for lithium mining and exploration.

Mnangagwa this month spoke of the desire to exploit a “favourable business environment for win-win outcomes” as he marked the commissioning of his country’s first China-owned lithium ore processing plant.

Zanu-PF is expected to win next month’s election, although few believe it will offer a true picture of voter sentiment. The party can call upon the powerful state apparatus while the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has been denied access to mainstream media and its rallies have been banned.

One poll by the country’s Mass Public Opinion Institute indicated 35 per cent support for Zanu-PF and 27 per cent for the CCC, but large numbers of people were also unable to express a preference.

If Zanu-PF did feel the election was slipping away, or if it unexpectedly lost, the party could return to the violence of five years ago, when soldiers shot dead civilian protesters.

Yet Mnangagwa knows that doing so risked closing off the international community, possibly for good. “It remains to be seen if . . . they still have an appetite or desire for reforms,” said Chikohomero.

“How much are they willing to pay to get this re-engagement going?”

Zanu PF, ANC Siamese twins whose end is nigh – says EFF

SOUTH African opposition, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has described Zimbabwe’s ruling party Zanu PF and ANC as two peas in a pod whose involvement in corruption is a signal of their political demise.

Governing parties, Zanu PF and ANC have been mired in controversies emanating from corruption that the two have failed to tackle.

In Zimbabwe, senior Zanu PF officials were exposed in an explosive investigative docu-series that laid bare how elites are involved in a web of money laundering using State institutions.

Mnangagwa, his allies Uebert Angel and Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanaya were name-dropped in the exposè titled ‘Gold Mafia’.

Since the release of the Al Jazeera documentary, no arrests have been with the government promising to “investigate”.

Just like Mnangagwa, Cyril Ramaphosa has been found in the corruption spotlight after millions of United States dollars were found stashed in a sofa prompting the EFF to call for his resignation.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com EFF secretary general Marshall Dlamini said Zanu PF and ANC have proved that they have no wherewithal to address corruption in their respective countries.

“The reality is that the former liberation movements by nature do not go beyond transforming society. They know by nature they are going to die a natural death. That is why the leaders can see that the day is coming and that eventually, they are going to die a natural death. They start doing things that are unethical, things that are wrong. On the stealing of Cyril, he does not steal on the basis that he wants more but he can see that the ANC is nearing an end.

“It is the nature of the liberation movements. They can see power is going that is why they want to still as much as they can. Some of them take money and stash out of this country so that when the time comes they can take their families and disappear,” said Dlamini.

Mnangagwa heads into an election scheduled for August 23 on the back of a failed expedition to tackle corruption.

When he replaced Robert Mugabe in a military-assisted coup in 2017, Mnangagwa promised to eradicate corruption in all state institutions.

His promise has failed to see the light of day with senior government officials arrested only to be acquitted in what the opposition has described as a catch-and-release syndrome.

Dlamini told NewZimbabwe.com that both ANC and Zanu PF appear to have lost direction and lack ideas to transform their economies.

“They are not good leaders. That is why we are contesting the ANC. We want to remove it from power because they have no idea how to grow the economy. The countries have evolved, they need fresh ideas and that cannot be found in the liberation movements,” said Dlamini.

Mnangagwa has no room for rigging- Chamisa

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president Nelson Chamisa has claimed that he has covered all loopholes used by Zanu-PF to rig elections in the past as the contest for August 23 elections reaches fever pitch.

Addressing about 8 000 people who thronged his rally at Dulibadzimu Stadium yesterday, Chamisa said stealing of elections and power would be a thing of the past.

He said Zanu-PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s history of grabbing power was working against him because the late former President Robert Mugabe had died a bitter man.

Mnangagwa, who was Mugabe’s longtime aide, toppled his mentor in a coup in 2017.

In 2018, Mugabe endorsed Chamisa ahead of Mnangagwa.

“When ED grabbed power from Mugabe, he was given two years to finish Mugabe’s term but nothing worked. I warned my brother (Mnangagwa) on the repercussions of grabbing power. I told him what you have done, you have committed a crime in heaven and on earth. He grabbed another five years from me in 2018,” Chamisa said.

“This time we know he is thinking of employing dirty tactics but all corners are covered because we know what he uses to steal elections. We want to see when election results are being announced, the gap must be huge.”

Chamisa said his government would target a US$100 billion-dollar economy.

He attacked the government for beating its chest for implementing development projects that are not benefiting people.

“If they build a road, they come back to you and boast, yet it’s their duty. They even inflate the (cost). Look at Zimborders which has plunged people into suffering.

“People living in Beitbridge depend on cross-border trade but they have been impoverished by high charges when using the upgraded border so who does it help?” he said.

Beitbridge border was upgraded at US$300 million but to recoup money borrowed from banks in South Africa, the company levies charges of US$27, US$80 and US$200 for private cars, buses and heavy trucks.

This has resulted in traffic sidestepping Beitbridge for other routes while locals no longer drive to South Africa.

“So what development is that? My government will exempt locals or seek reversal of the deals which make people suffer,” he said.

He asked the crowd to vote for him come August 23 saying most people in the country including civil servants, the security sector were eager for change.

“Everywhere people are suffering. I am coming from Plumtree and everyone says they are tired of corruption which has led to immense suffering. We are going to change education, health, social security and many things that affect people.

“We will introduce free education at primary and tertiary levels. It’s happening in Zambia and other countries and it’s possible. I also want to correct the lie being peddled that I will give back farms to whites. I said I will give people title deeds. People are like squatters on resettled land, they have no claim or right to it,” he added.

He mocked Zanu-PF for bussing supporters from the length and breadth of the country to its rallies.

“Everyone here came on their own, we have no chicken to give you but you are driven by a need for change and a desire for dignity we will restore. We must vote in numbers to send Mnangagwa off,” Chamisa said.

He introduced his party’s candidates for the National Assembly in Beitbridge West and East, Morgan Ncube and Renatho Manavhela alongside local government candidates.

Chamisa said his government would not allow raw mineral exports.

“We will have a US$100 billion economy. We will have a country of milk and honey. No one will carry our raw materials out. We will have those lithium factories, build towns and new cities around resources we have for processing,” he said.

“We will restore citizens’ rights and that means anyone will have the right to demonstrate. How can anyone be stopped from expressing themselves.”

Chamisa also said his party would have a lean government with a maximum of 15 ministers. His rally was delayed by PA system technical challenges.-newsday

South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe became the first Black African to be featured on the Forbes list of world billionaires at the age of 46 in 2008. He is also the first South African industrialist and billionaire.

Growing up, Motsepe’s first passion was entrepreneurship because he comes from a family of entrepreneurs. His grandfather and father were both entrepreneurs. His father, who was chief of the Mmakau branch of the Tswana people, was a schoolteacher and later became a businessman as the owner of a Spaza shop that was frequented by mine workers. It was from this shop that Motsepe gained exposure to the mining industry and had an opportunity to learn key business skills from his father that would shape his success. His mother, Key Motsepe, was also a businesswoman who ran the family business at the time.

Today, he has grown to become one of the most influential figures in Africa, with his footprint cutting across sports and business. Here are five businesses owned by Motsepe.

African Rainbow Minerals Ltd (ARM)

Motsepe is a mining magnate. According to him, it took many years to identify which opportunity to pursue and he realized that his country did not have a history of small-scale mining. This inspired him to buy low-producing gold mine shafts in 1997 and turned them into profitable ventures in a year. Motsepe owns African Rainbow Minerals Ltd (ARM). The company mines iron ore, manganese ore, and alloys, platinum group metals, copper, nickel, and coal. ARM also has an investment in gold.

Mamelodi Sundowns

Motsepe, now 60, is also an avid sports investor, with major investments in football and rugby. The billionaire is the bankroller and founder of the South African football club Mamelodi Sundowns. Sundowns play in South Africa’s elite league and are one-time champions of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

Pretoria-based Blue Bulls

Also, Motsepe is the joint major shareholder with a 37 percent stake in the Pretoria-based Bulls, currently the most successful rugby team in South Africa. The investment in the Bulls is largely to complement his investment in Sundowns.

African Rainbow Capital

Motsepe owns African Rainbow Capital (ARC), an investment company focusing on opportunities in the South African and African financial services and diversified investments (non-financial) industries, its website says. The company was first started in 2015 and operates as a subsidiary of Ubuntu-Botho Investments. The main goal of ARC is to acquire shareholdings in businesses that deliver exceptional returns on equity.

TymeBank

TymeBank is a digital-only bank with more than 6.2 million customers. The company has a presence in South Africa and the Philippines and is partly owned by African Rainbow Capital (ARC) Financial Services Holding.

PF finds another reason to “avoid” convention
…say they will be busy with traditional ceremonies

IN its apparent lack of desire to have an elective convention anytime soon, the PF has found another excuse to delay the meeting further.

Since losing power in 2021, the PF has not been able to hold a convention to elect new party leadership to replace vanquished Edgar Lungu and his executive.

Impeccable insiders have repeatedly told Kalemba that Lungu has u-turned on his decision to leave politics and is using every trick in the book to return to the presidency of the PF after his colleagues convinced him that he would easily win back power in 2026.

The former president’s people have since worked to delay the convention as they work out the best plan to get him back at the helm of the PF.

The convention has already been postponed twice.

At first, the PF blamed its inability to the hold the convention on lack of funds before shifting to blame court cases brought forward by party presidential aspirant Miles Sampa.

Late last month, the PF announced that convention would take place in October but that would be preceeded by a meeting to amend the constitution on July 29, which is next Friday.

But now the party’s PF information and publicity chairperson Raphael Nakacinda says the constitution amendment conference will not take place as announced in order to allow members attend traditional ceremonies.

Nakacinda said the party and its members will be observing the Mutomboko ceremony in Luapula province and the centenary celebration of the Catholic Church in Minga Petauke district of eastern province.

He said the events will occur simultaneously on the same day hence it was resolved that the constitution conference be deferred to allow party members from all provinces to participate in the alteration of the PF constitution.

“This process is one that would not want to have other members of the party especially at the level of the province if not region be undermined or sabotaged from participating fully because there are events that are taking place,” he said.

“That is a matter that is proving to be difficult because we have two national events that are taking place on the same day we had envisioned to hold the restitutive conference. One is the Mutomboko were obviously we cannot avoid but participate as a party two is the 100 years centenary celebration of the Catholic church in Minga Petauke.”

He indicated that some of the provisions that need to be changed is the delineation of the party’s authority from branches of government.

The former minister of water development and sanitation emphasized that the other reason for changing the party constitution is that the PF wants to maintain a professional civil service when it bounces back in power without overcrowding it with cadres.

“There were provisions that seem to suggest we are envisioning to run what seems to have been a one party participatory system. It is envisioned that we are going to have a separation between government and the party,” Nakacinda said.

“The party is basically just an entity or organization through which those who serve in government are sponsored. So when you are sponsored and when you win an election you are expected to serve as a government official without necessarily carrying your tag of politics into government.”

He watered down assertions that the constitution was being modified to serve the interests of a specific individual.

“The party is responding to the demands of the Zambian people and engaging in extensive consultations to ensure the new laws governing the PF meet the expectations of the populace,” Nakacinda said.

He disclosed that after the party suffered a humiliating defeat in the August 12, 2021 poll there have been demands to revamp the party’s image which requires to reconstruct the party structure and its constitutional provisions that do not speak to the democratic dispensation.

“All those petty and childish assertions suggesting that the constitution is being amended with somebody in mind either to enhance their interest or ambition in the party or indeed to undermine somebody’s ambition or desire to participate in the affairs of the party at a certain level is really misplaced,” Nakacinda charged.

He said the constitution reforms are important as part of the rebranding efforts in response to the demands by ‘Zambians’.

“We are consulting widely and we are hoping that at the end of this whole process we will create a piece of law that governs PF, that speaks to the aspirations of the Zambian people and that’s the process we are undertaking,” Nakacinda said.

He appealed to the members of the green family to remain patient as the Leadership is determined to do the right thing on time.

“We will do what you expect us to do not at the instigation of the ruling party or any other individual or organization that we know do not mean well against PF. We will be at a pace and a process that is approved in tandem with the aspirations of the party,” said Nakacinda.

“So it’s only prudent that we re-adjust the dates but I don’t want to pre-empt which option we have because that is subject to the decision of the bigger body which is the National Executive Committee.”
