Ukrainian officials investigating killing of 19 troops at an awards ceremony

0

The Ukrainian government has launched a criminal investigation into military officers who arranged a ceremony to honor soldiers. The ceremony was attacked by a Russian missile, and 19 soldiers were killed. This was one of the worst attacks on Ukrainian forces.

The State Bureau of Investigation wants to make sure that military officials are held responsible for hosting an event near the front line in Zaporizhzhia, where Russian drones could see a lot of people gathered.

The violent event caused many Ukrainians to criticize it on social media. They wondered why it was planned so close to the fighting. President Zelenskyy felt very sad about the deaths of the men from the 128th Separate Mountain-Assault Brigade of Zakarpattia. He said it was a tragedy that didn’t need to happen.

The investigation announcement was made just before Ukraine’s top military leader, General. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, a very important assistant and good friend, said a Major. Gennady Chastyakov was killed by a bomb inside a birthday gift while he was with his family.

Zaluzhnyi wrote on his Telegram channel that he feels really sad about Chastyakov’s death and wants a legal investigation to find out how he died.

Before, the authorities said that Russian drone and missile attacks in Odesa injured eight people and caused damage to an art museum that is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Satellite photos also showed damage caused by a Ukrainian missile attack on a Russian naval ship.

The National Art Museum in Odesa said that seven art shows, mostly showing modern Ukrainian art, were harmed by a strike that made a big hole outside the museum. This happened during the museum’s 124th anniversary celebration.

Pictures and video showed broken windows, doors, and some paintings on the floor with a lot of mess in the galleries.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian missiles hit one of its ships at a shipyard in the city of Kerch.

The Associated Press looked at pictures taken by a satellite and found that a Russian navy ship near Kerch was damaged.

On Sunday, pictures from a satellite company called Planet Labs PBC showed a ship used for putting out fires, and booms in the water to contain oil spills from the damaged ship. You can see dark marks that look like burns on the boat, which is still floating. The marks could not be seen in other satellite pictures of the ship at the port.

The size and shape of the ship are similar to a Karakurt-class corvette. In Russian, “karakurt” is the name for a “Black Widow spider. ”

The ships are made to carry Kalibr cruise missiles, which Moscow has used many times against Ukraine since starting the war in February 2022.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday night that Ukrainian forces shot 15 cruise missiles at the Zaliv shipyard in Kerch, hitting a ship and the shipyard.

Lieutenant General. Mykola Oleshchuk, the leader of Ukraine’s air force, said online that he thought the attack was aimed at a boat carrying Kalibrs. He also said that Kyiv used French missiles to attack from far away.

Andriy Ryzhenko, who is a captain in the Ukrainian naval reserve, said he thinks the boat hit by the missile was the Askold. The ship was being built at the port when the Russian President Putin visited in July 2020.

In 2014, Russia took control of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine. Since then, it has been a common target because of the invasion of Ukraine ordered by Putin. Crimea was an important place for helping the invasion.

On Sunday and Monday, Russian shelling and airstrikes in southeastern Ukraine killed a 77-year-old man and injured at least 16 people, according to the country’s president.

The attacks in Odesa broke grain warehouses and houses too. A bomb exploded in front of the fine arts museum. The building and its art pieces were damaged, but no one has checked how bad it is yet, said a U. NThe cultural organization said.

UNESCO strongly criticized the attack on the museum, saying on Twitter that cultural sites should be protected by international law.

This was the second time the museum was hurt during the war. In July 2022, an explosion broke the old glass roof and windows of the museum.

European Union to give Ukraine $54 billion

0

EU leaders have agreed to give Ukraine 50 billion euros ($54 million) to help its economy, which has been badly affected by the war. This happened after Hungary decided to no longer block the measure.

The help package is mostly loans that have to be paid back and some grants. It will be given over four years. It is not meant to pay for weapons, which will be covered by a different EU plan. Instead, it wants to make Ukraine’s economy stable after almost two years of fighting, pay for rebuilding, and prepare the country to join the EU in the future.

The package will help Kyiv with money while making sure prices don’t go up a lot like they did after Russia invaded in February 2022. Ukraine’s economy was severely hurt by war and being taken over by Moscow. Many factories in the east were taken by Russia.

The central bank needed to make more money to pay for government expenses, and as a result, prices went up a lot, reaching 26%. Last year, the economy got a little better, but Kyiv uses almost all of its tax money for the war.

As of Saturday, President Zelenskyy’s office and the Ukrainian finance ministry have not said how they will spend the money. However, EU authorities, Ukrainian lawmakers and diplomats have mentioned important things that worry them.

Zelenskyy was happy to receive help and he posted about it on a social media platform called X, which used to be called Twitter. He said that if the EU keeps giving money to Ukraine, it will help their economy stay strong in the long run. This is just as important as the military help and sanctions against Russia.

Russia’s economy has been able to withstand the economic sanctions from Ukraine’s Western allies better than expected. This is despite the fact that there is a limit on the price of Russian oil and natural gas, and other countries are looking for alternative energy sources instead of relying on Russia.

In late November, Moscow approved its largest federal budget, with more money going to the military than to social programs for the first time in modern Russian history. Low unemployment, higher pay, and more money for social programs have helped the Russian government deal with the effects of focusing the economy on preparing for war.

Some experts believe the government’s spending plans are not sustainable for a long time. They think taxes will go up after the presidential election in March.

Rumours that commander-in-chief of Ukraine would be fired expose divisions among Ukraine’s elite

0

Ukraine’s top leaders are in disagreement over whether to dismiss the country’s top military leader due to conflicts with the President.

Zelenskyy’s office and the Defense Ministry said Valerii Zaluzhnyi isn’t getting fired. He is still in his job as a top commander and is very popular. But the reports have made people think he might quit soon, which could be good for Russia as the war gets close to two years.

His leaving would be the biggest change in Ukraine’s top military leaders since Russia invaded. The country is struggling with not having enough ammunition and soldiers after a failed attack in the summer. This could also make Ukrainian soldiers feel unhappy and demoralized, they have been fighting tough battles for almost two years.

The USis stopping the important help the military needs to keep fighting. Congress and Ukrainian soldiers are getting ready to protect their positions from Russian troops moving forward.

“Zelensky can fire Zaluzhnyi. ” “Oleksii Haran, who works at a research organization in Kyiv, says that he must have a really good reason for it and explain it well to the people in Ukraine. ”

“We understand that if Zaluzhnyi is fired now, Russian propaganda and other groups, even in the US, will use it to hinder the delivery of weapons to Ukraine. ” Haran said this is not good.

Zaluzhnyi is liked by many people and the military, but he doesn’t get along with Zelenskyy because of a comment he made about fighting with Russia. The president said it wasn’t true.

Ukrainian media said there might be a chance that Zaluzhnyi could lose his job. Ukraine’s newspaper Mirror of the Week reported that the president asked a general to leave his job, according to sources close to Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi. Zaluzhnyi was asked to be an adviser, but he said no, according to the reports.

The Associated Press was not able to check if the reports are true. Ukrainian officials, the president’s office, and Zaluzhnyi’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

Russian government media were happy on Wednesday about rumors from Western sources. They talked about the rumors many times during the main discussion show “60 Minutes” on Russia 1 TV and also during news updates on Russia 24.

Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the Kremlin is definitely keeping track of the news about Zaluzhnyi.

“Many questions remain,” Peskov said, according to Tass, and he added, “It’s clear that the government in Kyiv has a lot of problems and things are not going well there. ” This is easy to understand.

“It’s clear that the failed attack and the problems at the front have caused more fighting. ” “In both the high-ranking military and civilian people in Kyiv,” Peskov said. He said that more fighting will happen as Russia’s military operation keeps going well.

KAWANA VISITS MULTICHOICE OVER DSTV INCREMENT

Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana shares…

Earlier today, we visited MultiChoice Zambia Limited to establish facts surrounding the announcement of DStv price adjustment effective 1st April, 2024.

Company Managing Director Mrs Leah Kooma was on hand to take us round in order to familiarize ourselves with the company’s operations.

Mrs Kooma revealed that price adjustments are not determined by exchange rate fluctuations
but various factors such as satellite fees, cost of acquiring both local and international content, cost of distributing content and decoders.

As Government, we implored MultiChoice Zambia Limited to always carry people along in whatever it does as members of the public are an integral part of the company.

We conveyed to MultiChoice the concerns of the people that include expensive DStv, repeated programs/movies and frequent upward price adjustments.

We were glad to note that the increments are mostly annual and bi-annual and prices are in different bands that include K40 bouquet ensuring there is DStv for many at different levels to afford.

Zambia is ready for business hence the UPND New Dawn Government is creating strong institutions that support an enabling environment for investment.

STATEMENT BY PF PRESIDENT MILES SAMPA ON THE DISASTER DECLARATION IN ZAMBIA BY PRESIDENT HH

0

STATEMENT BY PATRIOTIC FRONT (PF) PRESIDENT HON MILES BWALYA SAMPA ON THE DISASTER DECLARATION IN ZAMBIA BY THE REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.

March 1st, 2024

This is not the appropriate time to jump on streams of arguments and play politics. We would like to respond to the announcement from the National Address at State House by His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema where he declared the current drought being experienced in the country as a “National Disaster”. We shall among other things highlight some other happenings in our country which we see fit to discuss.
Firstly, we wish to thank the President for taking a bold step to declare the drought incident a disaster as it is indeed a situation that has not only threatened our nation’s food security but energy production included.

As Patriotic Front, we would like to advise that the current situation is not a matter of talk and pass but one that calls on all of us in leadership, government, and all stakeholders to urgently come together with combined efforts to find not only lasting solutions but begin forthwith to implement them. The government must be in the forefront and bring to reality what it promises people and actualize them.

We further suggest long-term measures to combat drought. All areas where farming is done by our people must be prioritized and empowered with solar irrigation systems and technology immediately. We can save some maize, if not all, even now. Constituency Development Funds (CDF) in all constituencies where activities of commercial farming are done should begin to prioritize grants or loans to farmers specifically towards commercial irrigation equipments.

We believe this will not only help save the current crops but enable farmers to continue farming even after the usual farming season passes. We can see a country that took advantage of a bad situation turning itself into an all-year-round producer of maize, cassava, millet, rice, fruits, vegetables, and all other products that depend on rain to grow. Surely we can become a food basket once again.

We also want to advise the government to engage both local and foreign suppliers of maize in advance should the crop yield go to the worst this season. This will help us plan and prepare before the worst comes to our faces. When disaster knocks on our doors, we can prepare before we open the door. Therefore, it is our strongest stance to now move into mitigation measures in preparation for the poor yields expected. It is also important to begin planning on stocking up food reserves before the estimated time for the disaster to manifest after the farming season should the rain patterns stay the same.

Government should further look to promote and guarantee the private sector structured foward contracts of maize importation for 2025. Prices can be agreed now for delivery in say 6 or 12 months. This will mitigate foreign exchange risks in the anticipated maize importation that could escalate the retail prices of mealie meal.

On the rising cost of living and adverse economy currently being experienced, we can not continue politicking at the expense of our citizens who are looking to us for solutions to save them from all these poor conditions. We understand how bad things are and to think of a situation where we produce very low on the staple foods, we can’t afford to slumber . It will be detrimental to do so. These are matters of urgency and should be tackled right with the urgency it deserves. We have to find a way to bring the cost of living down to manageable levels. Our people should afford the basic commodities and it is for the government to ensure this happens through the policies it advances.

In all seriousness, we would like to urge the government to take note of our proposals here and further encourage all stakeholders and political leaders to unite on these matters for the better good of the Zambian people regardless of political divides and differences. This is the time for all of us to work together and fight the poverty that threatens our people.

Lastly, we would like to call upon the government through the Ministry of Energy to strongly consider alternative energy sources such as solar biofuels and others. This drought is not only threatening food security but also the energy sector. The consequences of this reality will be so devastating to the economy. This is because production always and surely gets negatively affected by the loss of electricity whenever we experience load-shedding due to low water levels.

UKA RESPONDS TO PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S EMERGENCY DECLARATION

UKA RESPONDS TO PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S EMERGENCY DECLARATION

01st March, 2024

We, at the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) followed with great interest President Hakainde Hichilema’s press briefing of 29th February, 2024, where he declared a national disaster due to the apparent ‘prolonged drought’ facing the nation.

While the declaration is welcome, we feel it has come ´too little too late´ and should have been declared as far back as October 2023 – which coincidentally when the cholera issue should have also been declared. All the science pointed to the fact that Zambia would inevitably find itself in this unfortunate drought predicament sooner rather than later.

We shudder to think of the consequences the adverse effects of the drought will have on the majority of poor households in Zambia that are already facing only a meal a day because of the scarce and very expensive (a 25kg bag now costs about K360 from around K100 under the previous administration) mealie meal.

This, in spite of the fact that Mr. Hichilema promised to bring down the prices of our staple maize meal to K50 but alas, this was just one of the dozens of false promises he made to win an election.

What baffles and hurts us the most, as UKA, is the fact that President Hichilema, for no particular reason aside from greed, embarked on a mission to sell more than 1.5 MILLION METRIC TONNES OF MAIZE, our staple food in the reserves to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Now, when our people need it the most, faced with the very reason why food reserves were made –a possible famine, the reserves are not available and our people are faced with a looming hunger situation.

Up to now, we cannot understand or comprehend why a responsible government would sell its emergency maize stock to a neighbouring country even amidst warnings that a drought and food shortages were looming.

We can only ask a simple question, “Mr President what where you thinking Sir?

MR HICHILEMA SOLUTIONS TO HEAL THIS ILL?

In his usual brash and ´know it all´ posture Mr Hichilema has promised to combat future droughts or calamities:

a. Through the donor begging bowl as an immediate action also finding solutions.

b. Through generating energy which has been affected by the drought.

c. Through solar energy, provide cheaper finance provide insurance for farmers and to grow winter maize.

As UKA we do not believe that those solutions are immediately impactful and are an adequate response to the declared national disaster. Going around the world like butterflies begging for food, is not a solution Mr President.

We are in an emergency situation and that requires a well thought through localised response that is immediately practical and identifiable. In an emergency situation there is need to give very detailed step by step guidelines that, all involved can immediately implement and thus avert the situation.

WHAT SOLUTIONS IS UKA OFFERING IN THIS CRISIS MOMENT

What are the immediate measures we must put in place to mitigate the effects of the looming hunger situation caused by the lack of foresight and resultant ineptitude actions of the New Dawn Government?

In the Immediate Term

  1. Determine how much land is available under irrigation for Commercial and Medium sized farmers. It is this land, that we need to utilise to save the nation from starvation.
  2. We advise that Government engages Commercial and Medium sized farmers, for a discussion. These are currently preparing their fields in readiness to grow and irrigate their wheat.
  3. Engage the commercial farmers and persuade them to plant maize instead.
  4. Offer the farmers who have irrigatable land, the following:
    i. Free electricity when they agree to plant maize on behalf of the nation.
    ii. Free maize seeds.
    iii. Free fertiliser.
iv) Agree on a pre-planting program. The opportunity cost of not planting wheat, must be borne by Government. The farmers need to be compensated for them not planting wheat.
  5. On livestock, all the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) must be redeployed to drilling commercial boreholes.
  6. These must be used for supply of water to livestock and for those people around those boreholes, to grow some food. These can include maize, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, butternuts, potatoes etc.
  7. While you announced that senior government officials will no Longer fly business class and travel entourages be reduced, UKA recommends that you cut on your very costly foreign trips in order to channel funds into the Agriculture Sector.

In the Medium Term

  1. Come to terms with the fact that Southern, Central and other such Provinces can no longer be relied upon to be the grain basket of the nation, owing to the fact that the rain-belt has shifted further North. There is therefore need to look North whether you like the people of the Northern Block or not!
  2. Shift resources and skills to the Northern Block and harvest maize twice a year while you plant crops that are less water dependant in the other Provinces.
  3. Improve farming Blocks like the Luena Farming Block in Chief Munkata’s area which has about 100,000 hectares of arable land and adequate water.

In conclusion, while, you Mr President CANCELLED the road construction contracts as well as electrification works to the Luena farming block simply because this was a project initiated by your predecessor such projects actually do offer solutions to the challenges being faced by the nation. Let us localise the solutions to these challenges facing us. We have the answers in-country.

God bless Zambia

USA Embassy in Staff Corruption Scandal

USA EMBASSY IN ZAMBIA FIGHTING INTERNAL AND SYSTEMATIC CORRUPTION!

STATEMENT FROM U.S. EMBASSY ZAMBIA:

Five months ago, the U.S. Embassy announced the discovery of a pattern of fraud, falsification of administrative records, and corruption within our organization. Based on the findings of this investigation, we took appropriate disciplinary action against those involved and we have now concluded this chapter of our history.

Since September, an impartial and systematic investigation revealed the scope and magnitude of these incidents and identified those individuals involved. Patterns revealed challenges similarly faced by businesses, organizations, and government institutions across many sectors and societies: falsified claims for allowances, coercion of colleagues to falsify records, and groups conspiring to defraud our institution for personal gain. The embassy took appropriate disciplinary action in response to each confirmed case, scrupulously applying the guidelines detailed in our employee handbook to respond equitably to individual case circumstances. We have introduced new training and reference materials to ensure our team better understands complicated regulations while strengthening management controls to better oversee the use of resources. Throughout this process, there was no evidence of fraud, corruption, or conflicts of interest related to any external activities such as issuance of visas, grants, or offers of employment.

The United States Embassy is not unique in facing the challenge of waste, fraud, abuse, or mismanagement of resources by staff members; many large institutions face these challenges at some point. But, rather than deny or hide from our challenges, we are proud to be an organization that acknowledges our mistakes and learns from them. We hold our heads up high for being an organization that upholds accountability and impartially in real time. Most importantly, we remain proud of our Embassy staff as we continue to advance the values and objectives that the United States and Zambia share. Our tremendous impact on the lives of Zambians throughout this country would not be possible without the amazing work that U.S. Embassy personnel produce day-in and day-out.

At a Town Hall event this week, Ambassador Gonzales told the Embassy community, “know that with the conclusion of this investigation process, everyone who remains employed by the embassy today has my utmost respect, my appreciation, and most importantly my full confidence. I am proud to work beside each one of you, and humbled by the tremendous impacts we have made together to benefit the American and Zambian people.”

The U.S. Embassy urges all individuals and institutions to join us in building and enforcing a culture of shared accountability and responsibility. It is only by taking action – as individuals, institutions, or governments – that we can put an end to the scourge of corruption.

Court grants Charity Katanga bail orders her to surrender her passport

EFCC grants Katanga bail orders her to surrender her passport

LUSAKA chief resident magistrate Davies Chibwili says it was difficult to state whether Charity Katanga’s appeal has high prospects of success because based on the evidence adduced before him in her criminal case, he deemed it fit to convict her.

In admitting Katanga to K100, 000 bail in her own recognizance pending appeal against her three year sentence, magistrate Chibwili said the Economic and Financial Crimes Court (High Court division) might come up with a different decision after reviewing his findings hence he would give her a benefit of doubt.

Katanga who is former Deputy Inspector General of Police was jailed three years on February 19, 2024 for possessing 10 Higer buses worth K26, 282, 770 suspected to be proceeds of crime.

However Katanga appealed against her jailing and asked the court to grant her bail pending appeal on reasons that her appeal had prospects of success.

She said she might serve a substantial part of the sentence by the time the appeal is heard.

But ruling on the bail application magistrate Chibwili said ; “It is very difficult for me to say that there are high prospects of the appeal succeeding. I may say so because having considered the evidence at trial, I felt confident in that it was safe to convict her. The High Court however may see the same evidence and come to a different conclusion.”

He said the argument that Katanga’s appeal would have been heard by the time she had served a substantial part of the sentence, is no longer considered as a reason for granting bail following the operationalization of the fast track court.

“The appeal in this matter is going to the Economic and Financial Crimes Court(High Court division), they are a fast track court.
Preparation of the record on this case has already started and within a few weeks, it will be ready for transmission to the High Court,”magistrate Chibwili guided.

“The application therefore by the applicant that she would have served a substantial amount of her sentence before her appeal is heard is not supported by the facts on the grounds. As much as I might not agree with her on those points, my Court is a Court of first instance where criminal matters are concerned. If a person is not satisfied with my decision, they have a right to take their argument to the High Court. If they are not satisfied with the outcome of their appeal in the High Court, they can go to the Court of Appeal.”

He said he would exercise his discretion and grant Katanga bail pending appeal.

Magistrate Chibwili granted Katanga free bail in the sum of K100, 000 on a condition that she provides two sureties working working for reputable institutions and should be residents of Lusaka with a fixed abode.

He bound the sureties on K500, 000 in their own recognizance and preferred Katanga to surrender her passport to the senior clerk of Court

The Great Maize Sell-off: UPND’s Recipe for a Hunger Disaster”

0

The Great Maize Sell-off: UPND’s Recipe for a Hunger Disaster”
Chilambwe Mulenga

In a baffling move that has left many scratching their heads and stomachs, the UPND government’s decision to offload Zambia’s maize reserves to neighboring Congo had ignited a firestorm of criticism. With food security teetering on the brink, citizens were left wondering if they’ll soon be dining on promises instead of meals.

The decision to part ways with our precious maize reserves seemed to have been made without consulting the common-sense manual. It’s like selling your umbrella during a downpour and hoping for sunny skies. And to add insult to hunger, the vibrant and knowledgeable Chola Kafwabulula, who held the key to our food security fortress as Director of the Food Reserve Agency, was unceremoniously given the boot. Clearly, in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is surplus to requirements.

But wait, there’s more! Civil servants with a knack for understanding farming patterns and the art of stockpiling food for a rainy day at the ministry of Agriculture were shown the door faster than you can say “crop failure.” It’s like kicking out the lifeguards and then wondering why everyone’s drowning.

And let’s not forget the ingenious plan to distribute farming inputs like confetti at a wedding, with no regard for where the rain was forecasted to fall. Because who needs logic when you have political favors to dispense?

Now, as the clouds gather ominously and stomachs growl in protest, the UPND government seems content to fiddle while Zambia starves. But fear not, dear citizens, for salvation may yet come in the form of President Hakainde Hichilema’s epiphany. After all, it was he who once called for a hunger disaster to be declared. It’s only fair that he now takes a bite of his own words, now that he’s the one at the helm.
As unrest simmers and riots threaten to boil over, one can’t help but marvel at the UPND’s remarkable ability to turn a food crisis into a comedy of errors. With records aplenty at the Zambia Met Department and the Office of the Vice President’s DMMU, it’s clear that the writing was on the wall. Perhaps it’s time for the government to put down their pens and pick up some groceries instead.

In conclusion, as the country braces for the impending hunger disaster, one can’t help but wonder if the UPND’s leadership style is guided by a compass or a mood ring. Either way, it’s shaping up to be a feast of folly and a famine of foresight.

Below is the background

Parliament has failed the people, admits Mundubile

By Fanny Kalonda

MPOROKOSO PF member of parliament Brian Mundubile says the country is in danger because government chose to favour its friends in the mining sector.

He admits that parliament has failed the Zambian people “this time around”.
“So there is no new story President Hakainde Hichilema is going to come with to tell the Zambian people about how he’s the best economist. About how he’s the best farmer and about how well connected he is. He cannot say that anymore. The exchange rate has exposed him. They (IMF) are raising red flags. They can see some danger in continuing the danger which we started with them. So for me, I think that comrade [Situmbeko] Musokotwane has to move very swiftly, he has to proceed with speed to see to it that they reverse the measures of the mining sector. We still do need investment but I think they can come at a later stage. Let’s stabilise this economy first and there is no need for us to go all over,” Mundubile said when he featured on KBN TV’s State of the Nation programme on Thursday. “We are in trouble today because we favoured some friends. Our government leaders decided to favour some friends in the mining sector.”
He urged the UPND government to “take back the mineral royalty tax to six per cent and make it non-deductible.”

“There is no magic. The moment that is done, we are going to have the forex that we need. We can’t give away three, four hundred million dollars and walk around with a … bowl we celebrate when the IMF disburses $180 million. That is unfair,” he said. “When they say the bar has been raised, I think there is a difference, they should say the cost of living has been raised. What has gone up is the cost of living. If raising the bar means increasing the price of fuel from K15 per litre to K34, I agree they have raised the bar. If increasing the bar means increasing the cost of mealie meal from K120 to K400, yes then I agree they have raised the bar.”
Mundubile also said there is has no democracy in parliament.

“What we don’t have in today’s parliament is what you call parliamentary democracy, the freedom of members of parliament to speak and speak freely. When presiding officers begin to call out names of members, that is disrespectful. Remember these are members of parliament, elected members of parliament representing Zambians out there. The moment you say, honourable Munir Zulu sit down, that is very disrespectful and that already begins to breed tension,” he said.

“If presiding officers in our parliament begin to use whips to control the House, the tension will begin to go down that is one, then two. It’s common knowledge that all the three presiding officers were previously members of the UPND, could still be active members of the UPND. But the moment they occupy that seat, they are supposed to be impartial. They should be independent and impartial. They have to take off that hat for the UPND because what happens is that the moment they don’t do that, they will find themselves reacting to debate.”
Mundubile said the tension in parliament is due to the fact that the presiding officers do not take off their UPND jackets.

“We are not there as the opposition political parties to begin to sing praise songs to the UPND. If they have scored in an area, it is not my job to talk about it. I simply ignore it, I will go to an area that needs attention. So the presiding officer must not like my debate for them to allow me to debate because I represent the people. That is the people’s House. That’s a national assembly. So part of the tension you can actually see the bias, points of order are granted to one side of the House and not to the other,” he said. “So it’s because when presiding officers don’t take off the political party jackets they begin to create tension in the House. So a presiding officer must be independent and impartial.”

Mundubile noted that the country is in problems because parliament was rendered dysfunctional.
“We are in problems, the UPND managed to export 1.5 million tonnes of maize because parliament was rendered dysfunctional. It’s the first time I have seen members of parliament disrespected by presiding officers,” he said. “If members of parliament were given ample time to discharge their function on the floor of the House through debate, through motions, we would have stopped comrade Musokotwane from giving the concessions that he gave in the mining sector but all these ministers are protected under the flow of the House. A properly functioning parliament would allocate ample time on serious subjects like mineral royalty on the mining sector. But today the investors walked away with all those conditions because members of parliament were not allowed or were not given enough time to debate the matter.”

Mundubile said the country has a mining sector that is plundering resources for free.
“On behalf or my fellow members of parliament I want to come before the Zambian people and admit that parliament failed the Zambian people this time around. We have the high mealie meal prices because parliament did not take its position to stand in the gap. The high fuel prices are because parliament did not take its position to stand in the gap. Had parliament taken its rightful position, the Minister of Mines [Paul Kabuswe], the Minister of Finance, was going to be stopped from giving those concessions that are now hurting our economy. If parliament was given enough time to debate fully and freely we would have not allowed for Indeni to close. We would have been importing commingled fuel,” he said. “We have the mining sector that is plundering our resources for free. We have no medicines. We have a cancer hospital, poor people are dying in homes, they come there just to die. They come to the cancer hospital, there is no attention at all and yet government came under the floor of the House and said we will start sending them to Tanzania. How many people have been sent to Tanzania?”

Mundubile added that the democratic space had really shrunk.
“Today our democratic space has shrunk so much that the UPND have this hysteria, this fear of the unknown, that if so and so goes and speaks to the media, they may expose us in this area and that area. And that the challenge that you have when you are not in the habit of telling the truth, you begin to fear your own shadow because you don’t know what is going to come out and that’s I think the position that the UPND finds itself in,” he said.

“What we are experiencing today, just the exchange rate says it all. So there is no new story President Hakande Hichilema is going to come with to tell the Zambian people about how he’s the best economist. About how he’s the best farmer and about how well connected he is. He cannot say that anymore. The exchange rate has exposed him, the same goes for comrade Musokotwane. He was recently voted the best finance minister and President Hakainde Hichilema was talking about being in the champion’s league. I don’t think my two older brothers can even refer to the champion’s league anymore. Comrade Musokotwane as the best performing minister, I don’t think he wants to hear that because you can’t have a best performing minister in the world or in Africa with the worst performing currency. So really, the leaders in the UPND like grandstanding. They like headlines, they like to be praised even when they have done nothing. Many of the times they have made mistakes because they start by blowing healines. They celebrate small victories and they later regret.”

Mundubile insisted that he was still acting as leader of opposition in parliament.
“I am still exercising my full authority as a leader of opposition. Before I came here I was having a caucus with the members of parliament. We still have yet another caucus of members of parliament. So I am still working as leader of opposition, exercising the same authority, supervising member of parliament, preparing for debates and generally business of the House,” he said.
“The other matters, yes, will be dealt with by the courts but it has never stopped me from functioning. I am not competing with anyone. I am leader of opposition, and that’s the bottom line,” said Mundubile.-The Mast

I Own Chamisa Face- Tshabangu

0

In a bizarre and audacious move, Sengezo Tshabangu, self-appointed Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has made headlines by claiming ownership of Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s face.

Tshabangu’s assertion has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwean politics, raising questions about intellectual property rights, party loyalty, and the limits of political maneuvering.

The controversy erupted when Tshabangu, in a display of apparent desperation, issued a stern warning to anyone who dares to use the logo bearing Advocate Chamisa’s face.

Asserting his authority within the CCC, Tshabangu declared his readiness to pursue legal action against individuals or entities that utilize Chamisa’s likeness without his consent.

“Let me set it clear that I’m one of the most influential decisión making board members of the CCC,the people who claim to have fired me had their sweet dreams and they must be strongly warned against maliciously using the party logo as that will attract severe consequences, ” Tshabangu claimed.

Tshabangu’s bold declaration has not only reignited tensions within the CCC but has also drawn widespread skepticism and criticism from across the political spectrum. Many view his claim of ownership over Chamisa’s face as absurd and legally dubious, raising concerns about the manipulation of party symbols for personal gain or political advantage.

Moreover, Tshabangu’s assertion of authority within the CCC adds another layer of complexity to the already tumultuous landscape of Zimbabwean politics.

His self-proclaimed position as a decision-making board member of the CCC challenges the legitimacy of the party’s internal structures and further fuels internal divisions and power struggles.

In response to Tshabangu’s claims, voices within the CCC have expressed skepticism and condemnation, questioning the motives behind his actions and calling for transparency and accountability within the party.

Some have accused Tshabangu of attempting to assert control over the CCC for personal gain or political manipulation, while others have urged unity and solidarity in the face of external pressures and challenges.

Amidst the controversy, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the central figure at the heart of Tshabangu’s claims, has remained notably silent.

His absence from the fray has only served to intensify speculation and uncertainty surrounding the situation, leaving many to wonder about the implications for his leadership and the future direction of the CCC.

As the dust settles on Tshabangu’s bold assertion of ownership over Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s face, Zimbabwean politics finds itself at a crossroads.

The episode serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges inherent in political mobilization and organization, highlighting the need for transparency, accountability, and integrity within political parties.

Ultimately, the fate of Tshabangu’s claim and its impact on the CCC and Zimbabwean politics at large remain uncertain.

However, one thing is clear: the episode has ignited a fierce debate about the boundaries of political authority, the sanctity of party symbols, and the importance of principled leadership in navigating the turbulent waters of Zimbabwean politics.- zimeye

Mnangagwa scuttles t Constantino Chiwenga’s political plans

0

Zanu-PF co-deputy president Constantino Chiwenga, who harboured succession ambitions in the hope that President Emmerson Mnangagwa would step down after completing two constitutional terms, has been thrown into disarray by his boss’s rapidly burgeoning third-term bid which is trashing their 2017 military coup pact.

Informed sources say the original agreement from the 2017 military coup was that Mnangagwa would complete Robert Mugabe’s term and serve one other term in order to give the power-grab a civilian face to avoid outright condemnation from regional and international blocs, before handing over power to his coup ally, Chiwenga, to run the 2023-2028 term.

The agreement was however tweaked at Zanu-PF’s last elective congress held in 2022 where Mnangagwa manoeuvred to become the party’s candidate in the 2023 elections to complete two terms.

At that stage, allies of Chiwenga said the former military commander was taking a strategic retreat with the aim of fighting back and taking over power after Mnangagwa’s two terms that are set as the limit by the national constitution.

However, with Mnangagwa’s third-term bid campaign in full swing, the big question is inevitable: What next for Chiwenga? At the last 7th Zanu-PF congress, Chiwenga conceded defeat and proclaimed Mnangagwa as the leader of Zanu-PF, but he was hopeful of taking over in 2028.

Earlier on, Chiwenga had suffered setbacks in his spirited fight for the post of party president, including a one-year break, when he was battling for his life in hospitals, the death of his trusted generals Perrance Shiri and Sibusiso Moyo and a dwindling support base within the army where Mnangagwa made changes mainly for coup-proofing.

The convening of the congress was challenged by Zanu-PF youth Sybeth Msengezi, but the case predictably dragged on in the courts.

What happened to Chiwenga was a similar script to what took place in 2004 when eight provinces had endorsed Mnangagwa as vice-president of the party. As secretary for administration, Mnangagwa was made to announce that the second vice-president would be a woman, and Joice Mujuru got the coveted slot ahead of Mnangagwa.

Chiwenga’s ouster from the race at the last party congress was the outcome of a premeditated plan by Mnangagwa since 2017. Cautious of being ousted by Chiwenga and his faction, Mnangagwa had avoided the scheduled 2019 congress after his controversial ascendancy through a central committee meeting held on 19 November 2017 at party headquarters in Harare.

An extraordinary congress was held in December 2017 to install him as party leader, but the constitutional processes were not followed to the letter and spirit of the law.

Zanu-PF youth member Musengezi, publicly viewed as Chiwenga’s proxy, challenged Mnangagwa’s legitimacy in the courts. He wanted the congress stopped until that matter had been resolved, but Zanu-PF forged ahead all the same.

Zanu-PF insiders say Chiwenga lost political ground when he fell ill and almost died between 2018 and 2019. From there, they say, he never quite recovered even though his faction has remained intact, with potential to regroup and fight back ahead of the 2028 elections. Mnangagwa’s third-term bid campaign became public last week when Zanu-PF Masvingo province coined a slogan for it during the ruling party’s Youth Day celebrations.

The slogan, “2030 VaMnangagwa vanenge vachipo [Mnangagwa will still be in power in 2030]”, is now being chanted at Zanu-PF events.

The party’s Masvingo provincial chairperson, Robson Mavhenyengwa, chanted the slogan at Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre during the main National Youth Day celebrations. However, even before that, recalls of opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) MPs by self-imposed secretary-general Sen gezo Tshabangu had already been part of the scheme.

A study by a think-tank, the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (ZDI), has shown that the recalls fed into the grand scheme of Mnangagwa’s third-term ambition.

Part of the ZDI study report said: “The recalls, which have been affected by the ruling Zanu-PF party’s Speaker of Parliament, who is the secretary of legal affairs in its Soviet-style political bureau (politburo) intends to reduce the opposition’s representation and increase the ruling party’s chances of achieving a twothirds majority in Parliament,” the ZDI said. “Whereas the recalls may be misconstrued to be a microcosm of internal opposition CCC squabbles, they feed into a broader dual securocratic state consolidation project. “That of countering the internal and external legitimacy challenges exposed by the opposition on one hand, and on the other hand weakening the opposition’s power in Parliament to pave way to President Mnangagwa’s third-term power ambitions,” the ZDI said.

Mnangagwa criticised for dishing out 100 Isuzu 4×4 vehicles to chiefs

0

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been criticised for prioritising pampering chiefs with new top of the range vehicles when the country is grappling with food insecurity and hospitals are without medicines.

The President on Thursday replaced the condition of service vehicles for chiefs, distributing 100 double cab Isuzu vehicles. He said the move was part of the government’s ongoing programme to ensure traditional leaders are mobile and to restore their dignity.

But pro-democracy activist Pride Mkono, in an interview with Nehanda Radio, blasted Mnangagwa, accusing him of giving chiefs with cars as a reward for rigging the 2023 harmonised general elections by intimidating villagers.

“What we are witnessing is obscene spending by the State President, literally an electoral victory “thank you” to the chiefs.

“We all know that during the 2023 elections these chiefs were used to intimidate and coerce villages in rural areas to vote for Zanu-PF and President Mnangagwa specifically.

“They did so working with a shadowy organisation called FAZ (Forever Association of Zimbabwe), which basically coerced rural people to vote for Mnangagwa. These cars are a reward from Mnangagwa to the chiefs,” Mkono said.

He questioned the logic behind buying luxurious cars when the country is facing a severe El-Nino induced drought.

“It is saddening that this comes at a time when the country is grappling with so many challenges, particularly in the wake of the El-Nino induced drought. We have shortages of maize and medicines in hospitals, yet the country continues to fork out millions of dollars for buying cars.

“It is okay for chiefs to receive materials that enhance their work, but it must not be done at the expense of the public services to the very same subjects that they hope to preside over.

“What use would it be for chiefs to be driving million dollar vehicles when their subjects are starving to death. It is obscene and unacceptable,” he added.

Posting on his X handle, former student leader Allan Chipoyi said, “….. a fleet of D-Max Isuzus, which Mnangagwa is going to dish out to Chiefs who assisted him in rigging elections in rural areas. When it comes to service delivery, they blame sanctions but not on spending millions on cars.”

Chiefs in Zimbabwe are known for being partisan by supporting Zanu-PF. Last year, the vice president of the National Chiefs Council Chief Fortune Charumbira said ‘there is an inseparable relationship between the traditional leaders’ institution and Zanu-PF’.

The Constitution of Zimbabwe stipulates in Chapter 15 section 281 (2) that: “Traditional leaders must not–(a) be members of any political party or in any way participate in partisan politics; (b) act in a partisan manner; (c) further the interests of any political party or cause; or (d) violate the fundamental rights and freedoms of any person.”

AKA’s father believes mastermind of son’s murder hasn’t been caught yet

Tony Forbes, the father of slain South African rap superstar AKA believes that the true mastermind behind his son’s murder is yet to be apprehended, despite the arrest of seven men in connection with what is now widely thought to have been a hit on the musician.

AKA, and his close friend, celebrity chef and entrepreneur Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane were gunned down outside a restaurant in Durban a year ago, in a killing that shocked South Africans.

KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi announced on Tuesday that they had arrested the men that had executed the killing of the pair, including one thought to be the mastermind.

The suspects who are behind bars include two gunmen who allegedly fired several rounds at the victims, three spotters who are accused of following AKA from Durban’s airport, someone who allegedly sourced the firearms which were used in the ambush, as well as the alleged mastermind.

“These six [suspects] — they played different roles during the operation. We have the coordinator, who is basically the master of everything. He is in custody. We have two shooters. We have two spotters — one of the spotters was inside the restaurant observing, watching Mr Forbes and his friends — as well as the organiser of firearms and vehicles, because the vehicle used as a getaway and firearms used to shoot, they were all hired,” Mkhwanazi said.

In an interview on the sidelines of the suspects’ court appearance on Thursday morning, Forbes said he believed that the true mastermind was still at large.

“I don’t really think the Provincial Commissioner really meant the true mastermind. I think he was referring to the coordinator. I think the coordinator as I understand it received a sum of many and shared it with six other people.

“Where did that money come from? If it came through the banking system then the police should be able to pick up the trail and find out from where it came and continue the investigation from there.

“Is this the true mastermind? My gut feeling says NO – but I haven’t done the investigation I’m just speculating,” he said. Telly Africa

Putin threatens to start nuclear war with Europe if he doesn’t get his way

0

President of Russia, Vladimir Putin has issued a terrifying threat of nuclear war in the event that Ukraine attempts to retake Crimea and joins NATO.

Russia has gathered more than 100,000 soldiers on the Ukrainian border and increased military drills, leading to a diplomatic impasse with the West.

The Kremlin says they are not planning to invade, and they blame Nato for expanding eastwards in Europe.

Western leaders like Boris Johnson have said that Ukraine can make its own alliances without Russia getting in the way.

New video shows the use of powerful new nuclear missiles called Kinzhal in Kaliningrad, a part of Russia next to Poland and Lithuania.

Putin said his meeting with the French president went well, but he also said that there could be a nuclear war if Ukraine joins Nato and tries to take back Crimea from Russia.

He said, “I want to emphasize it again. ” I’ve been telling you, but I really want you to listen to me and share it with your audience in newspapers, on TV, and on the internet.

‘So, you know if Ukraine joins Nato and tries to take back Crimea by force, then European countries will have to fight Russia. ‘

Putin said that Moscow has a very strong military, much stronger than Nato’s, but he also said that Russia is one of the top countries with nuclear weapons.

“There won’t be any winners, and you will be forced into this fight even if you don’t want to,” he said.

‘You won’t have time to blink when you use Article 5 to help NATO members. ‘

“President Macron and I don’t want this, that’s why he’s here, questioning me for six hours. ”

Putin said that for 30 years Russia has been trying to convince the West not to move Nato towards the east. He said that they didn’t care about what we wanted or needed.

Putin used the informal way of saying “you” to Macron, which shows that they have a good relationship.

At the same time, a new video shows one of two very fast MiG-31K aircraft in Russia’s farthest west area of Kaliningrad.

The fighter jet is said to be equipped with new very fast Kinzhal missiles that are launched from the air.

The Kinzhal is a big missile that is 24 feet long and weighs one ton. It can carry regular or nuclear bombs. It can travel 1,250 miles and attack Ukrainian soldiers and defenses without getting too close to the country.

It seems that the MiG-31Ks with big bombs were moved from Nizhny Novgorod to Chernyakhovsk air base in Kaliningrad.

It is thought that Russia has about 20 MiG-31K planes that can work with the Kinzhal missile.

In the Black Sea, a high-tech Russian Ivan Khurs intelligence ship was spotted just 20 nautical miles away from the Ukrainian naval port Odessa.

Russia said no to UN soldiers being put on the borders of rebel-held Donbas.

The leader of the Russian foreign ministry’s international organizations department, Pyotr Ilyichev, said: “No, we don’t need to do that. ” Peacekeepers cannot fix the problems in the conflict within Ukraine.

‘The Ukrainians have to have a conversation with the LPR and DPR’

Russia said that the upcoming visits by the UK’s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and Defence Secretary Ben Wallace are not likely to make relations between the two countries better.

The Russian ambassador to London, Andrei Klein, said that he doesn’t think the current situation will improve the relationship between countries. He is saying this because of the statements made by Liz Truss and Ben Wallace.

Ukraine downs 10 Russian jets out of the sky in 10 days

0

Ukraine’s military has announced that it has shot down 10 Russian military jets in the past 10 days, a dramatic rise from the previous months.

The statement comes in spite of the shortages faced by Ukrainian forces due to delays in Western supplies.

Ukraine claims that it has destroyed a total of 342 Russian planes and 325 helicopters since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022.

These numbers cannot be confirmed independently. Russia remains silent.

“Another one! In addition to the one in the morning!” Ukraine’s General Staff posted on Facebook on the afternoon of 27 February.

“Oops, we did it again!” the Ukrainian defence ministry joked on X (formerly known as Twitter). “And now it’s 10 ruined Russian planes in 10 days!”

Ukrainian Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk says that the latest two Russian aircraft to be shot down are Su-34 bombers – both downed in the east of the country.

“Considering such losses of fighter and special aircraft, the Russians should think twice and stop their aviation meat grinders for a while,” he said.

Gen Oleshchuk was referring to a Russian military strategy that involves sending large numbers of troops into combat with no care for their lives.

Ukraine says that it has shot down some of the best aircraft that the Russian air force has to offer between 17 and 27 February.

They include a highly advanced and rare A-50 military spy plane. If true, this would be the second A-50 to be shot down in just over a month, a humiliating loss for Russia and a major victory for Ukraine.

The other Russian planes that Ukraine says it has shot down in that period are seven Su-34s and two S-35 fighter jets.

One weapon that Ukraine is likely to have used is the US-supplied Patriot surface-to-air missile.

The higher number of Russian planes that Ukraine says it has shot down recently suggests that “Ukraine is being more aggressive with risking Patriot launchers close to the frontlines in order to engage Russian jets,” Justin Bronk, a senior research fellow at the London-based think-tank Rusi, told the BBC.

The recent surge has several possible reasons, such as increased deployment of such aircraft by Russia and more effective air defence systems used by Ukraine.

But without precise information on resources deployed on the battlefield, it can be hard to fully explain the increase in Ukrainian claims.

Such an increase, however, is still noteworthy.

Putin’s nuclear war plan exposed through leaks

0

Sensitive documents detailing Vladimir Putin’s war strategy have been released, revealing his willingness to readily deploy nuclear weapons.

“Will Russia’s president use nuclear weapons. ” This question has been asked since Russia started invading Ukraine.

The individuals holding authority in the Kremlin, like former president Dmitry Medvedev, have been making deliberate declarations of potential consequences to the West.

New military papers, displayed by the Financial Times, explain the level for using small nuclear weapons as lower than Russia has ever said publicly.

“We’ve never seen documents like this in public before,” said Alexander Gabuev, who works at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center in Berlin.

‘They prove that it doesn’t take much for countries to use nuclear weapons if they can’t get what they want using regular methods. ‘

Russia has small nuclear weapons that are meant to be used in battles in Europe and Asia. They can’t reach as far as the big nuclear weapons that could reach the US.

The documents made from 2008 to 2014 talk about how to use weapons at sea in war simulations and presentations for naval officers.

Even though the files are 10 years old or more, it is said that they are still important for the current Russian military plans. One way this could happen is if an enemy enters Russia’s land and Russia decides to react.

Another reason for concern would be if 20 percent of the Kremlin’s important missile submarines were destroyed.

If three big ships, three airfields, or 30% of its nuclear attack submarines get destroyed, it could lead to an attack.

China and Russia are working together closely, but the papers also show that they do not fully trust Xi’s government. If China attacks, Russia might use small nuclear weapons to stop the South from sending more troops.

The leader has ordered to use nuclear weapons if the enemy sends more troops and the South is getting ready to attack. The order comes from the top commander.

Putin’s spokesperson talked about the leak on Wednesday. He said that the rules for using nuclear weapons are very clear and written in the doctrine.

Wagner’s hired supporters surprisingly steal flowers that were put down to remember Alexei Navalny

0

Wagner’s hired supporters surprisingly steal flowers that were put down to remember Alexei Navalny, who strongly opposed Putin, and putting them on their leader’s grave.

In honor of the late Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, who passed away in a plane accident last year, tributes are being organized to commemorate his legacy.

Thousands of people have silently paid their respects to Navalny, who was 47yearsold and died two weeks ago in a prison in the Arctic. He was sent to the prison for speaking against the Russian government.

But the men who left flowers at the memorial for people who were hurt by Russian people might have been reported to the military and might have to go fight in the war.

More than 100 people have been arrested in eight cities for leaving tributes, according to OVD-Info, a group that watches political punishment in Russia.

Video shows Natalya Khim, a 35-year-old former reality show star who supports Wagner, talking about people laying flowers at Lubyanka Square to remember Alexei Navalny.

“We are aware that he passed away, but we are not sad about it. “Me and Wagner’s private army, along with other people in the Special Military Operation, decided not to leave any flowers here.

“From now on, we will collect and move all the flowers in memory of Navalny to a special memorial for soldiers in the war. “

Khim used to be part of a Russian neo-Nazi group called the Slavic Union, but now she writes a blog supporting war.

She said,”Ihope no dogs come to our memorial and take anything from there. “

Video also shows a person who supports Wagner, wearing black clothes and a covered face, moving flowers from the shrine of Navalny to a Wagner stall.

Many people arrested at gatherings in Russia to remember Navalny. His body was given back to his mother just last week, according to an aide.

Lyudmila Navalnya was being threatened and blackmailed by Putin’s government to bury her son privately without any public goodbye.

His wife Yulia Navalnaya said that Vladimir Putin was very cruel to her late husband’s body and made it impossible for her to do anything with it.

The Russian government says Navalny died from natural reasons.

Zelenskyy arrives in Saudi Arabia to seek peace and POW swap with Russia

0

On Tuesday, Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, visited Saudi Arabia to meet with the kingdom’s crown prince to ask for a plan to make peace and to get back Ukrainian prisoners of war from Russia.

Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman wants to help stop the fighting between Ukraine and Russia. But Saudi Arabia still supports Russia when it comes to energy decisions. Yesterday, the prince had a meeting with Vyacheslav Volodin, who is the chairman of Russia’s Duma, the lower house of its parliament, and many other Russian officials.

Zelenskyy went to visit as Kyiv’s army was starting to lose ground in eastern Ukraine. Military experts say that Russia is leading because it has more soldiers and weapons than Ukraine. Ukraine is waiting to hear if they will get more support from their Western allies.

“The Ukrainian military moved its soldiers away from two more villages near Avdiivka in Donetsk after heavy fighting overnight,” a spokesperson for the Ukrainian army said on Tuesday.

Ukrainian soldiers have moved away from Sieverne and Stepove, according to Dmytro Lykhovyi on TV. He said that before the big attack, the two villages had about 100 people living there.

Ukraine still depends on Saudi Arabia’s help to push for a “Peace Formula” to end the invasion. Zelenskyy said this in a message on X, which used to be called Twitter.

Zelenskyy has a 10-point plan for peace that includes getting all Russian troops out of Ukraine and making sure those who committed war crimes are held responsible. This is happening while the two sides are fighting from mostly the same positions along a 1,500-kilometre (930-mile) front line. Moscow quickly rejects those ideas.

“The next topic is about bringing back prisoners of war and people who were sent out of the country,” Zelenskyy wrote. The leaders of the kingdom have already helped to free our people. I am sure this meeting will have good outcomes. He also said we will talk about working together on our economy.

In this picture from the Saudi Royal Palace, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman meets with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Royal Palace in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, Feb. 11thThe date is 27, 2024. Bandar Aljaloud took the photo at the Saudi Royal Palace. It was released by the AP.

Zelenskky arrived at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport and was greeted by government officials, as reported by the state-run Saudi Press Agency. Later video showed Zelenskyy and other important people in his government meeting with a happy Prince Mohammed. Also present was Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz.

A video showed the prince and Zelenskyy talking in English without translators in a big hall at a palace while other officials were sitting nearby.

In recent years, Crown Prince Mohammed has made peace with Iran, tried to make peace with Yemen’s Houthi rebels, and has offered to help solve other worldwide problems. After getting a lot of criticism from many countries for their war in Yemen and the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, the Saudi-led coalition is now facing trouble. Intelligence agencies think that the attack was done because he told someone to do it.

Saudi Arabia and Ukraine did not immediately give a lot of information about what the leaders talked about. On Monday, the prince talked about things that both the kingdom and the Russian Duma leader are interested in.

“Volodin passed on the hello and best wishes from Russian President Vladimir Putin,” reported Russia’s Tass news agency.

In May, Zelenskyy went to Saudi Arabia to meet with Arab leaders and also met with Crown Prince Mohammed. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, who are all next to each other on the Arabian Peninsula, have been trading prisoners since the war started in 2022.

Putin cautions the West from deploying forces in Ukraine

0

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned the Western countries not to send soldiers to Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin said that the results of that decision would be very bad.

In his yearly speech to the country, President Putin said that the West is trying to get Russia into a competition to build more weapons. He said that Russia needs to make its defenses stronger on the western border because Sweden and Finland are joining Nato.

President Putin said that the West started the fighting in Ukraine and keeps lying by saying that Russia plans to attack Europe.

Perhaps talking about what French President Emmanuel Macron said earlier this week, President Putin said that sending Nato ground troops to Ukraine is not out of the question. He also said that there will be consequences for anyone who tries to intervene. Sad and unfortunate.

“We also have weapons that can attack targets on their land,” he said.

This could lead to a big fight using nuclear weapons and the end of society. Do they understand that.

Many Nato countries, like the US, Germany, and the UK, said they won’t send soldiers to Ukraine.

President Putin said that Russia has very advanced weapons, like super-fast planes and unmanned vehicles that can go underwater. He also said that Russia’s nuclear forces are ready for action.

President Putin called the conflict in Ukraine a “war” even though he usually tries to say it’s a “special military operation. ”

He said most Russians agreed with his decision to invade Ukraine, and that the Russian people were now working together to resist the Western countries trying to make Russia weaker.

He also criticized the US for accusing Russia of making nuclear weapons for attacking satellites in space.

The speech happened a little more than two weeks before the Russian president election. Many people think President Putin will win a fifth time.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the speech could be seen as Putin’s plan for the upcoming election.

Yes, a lot of the speech talked about things happening in Russia, like changing the tax system and helping people save for retirement. It also talked about trying to increase the number of babies being born in Russia.

He also said we need to make our nation healthier. He announced plans to help Russians live longer because right now, they don’t live as long as other Europeans.

Encouraging people to exercise more and drink less alcohol, he made a joke: “Quit drinking and go skiing. ”

President Putin is skiing while wearing a red outfit.

The speech went on for a very long time, two hours, and was heard by important politicians, the leaders of big oil and gas companies, and religious leaders from all different beliefs.

It was shown on big screens in Moscow and some cinemas in Russia showed it for free.

As expected, they didn’t talk about the death of Alexei Navalny, the opposition leader who died in a prison in Siberia two weeks ago. Many people thought he was President Putin’s biggest enemy.

Navalny will be laid to rest in Moscow on Friday. He died on February 16th under circumstances that are still not fully understood. His wife Yulia says that President Putin was to blame.

Everything that President Lungu is going through today, He pre-ordered for himself when he was President- Dr Nevers MUMBA

THE GOD WE SERVE IS NO RESPECTOR OF PERSONS.

By Dr Nevers MUMBA

I have noticed that any piece of advice to the Former President by myself is often met with a flood of Insults and rejection from his supporters and faithful. Well, I have a message for you.

Everything that President Lungu is going through today, He pre-ordered for himself when he was President through his many acts and actions. It appears to me, that the delivery time has come. This is not me being vengeful, but it is a principle of life. I stand on the word of God and I would encourage anyone that wishes to argue to not argue with me but the Bible. The Bible says You shall reap what you sow. This truth cannot change on Nevers Mumba. Neither can it change on ECL just because you love him more than you love HH. And neither can this principle change on HH because you love him more than Chilufya Tayali. IT IS A TALE AS OLD AS TIME.

If HH and UPND decided to do the same things, then their delivery time will also, equally come. This is a matter of time.

This is a general principle of life and The God we serve is no respecter of persons. He loves us all the same. God does not love ECL anymore than he loves HH. GOD loves Nevers Sekwila Mumba the same and he loves Higvie Hamududu and Chishimba Kambwili. We are all his children.

The big question is, Can President Lungu escape and cancel the orders? YES HE CAN. But I believe he cannot cancel the orders by being defiant, and most definately not by having his supporters continue to pour Insults on those of us that choose to respectfully advise him. He can only do that by repenting before God and by simply saying to those he injured, I am SORRY, I WAS WRONG. For President Lungu to make the demands he is making, without as much as an apology is really arrogance of the highest order.

There are those who believe that as Pastor, I must not talk about the injustices of yesterday. They also believe that as a Servant of God, I must always take a sort of weakened middle ground in an effort to reconcile the two opposing forces and that I cannot take a side. I dont agree with this. I believe my job os always to stay on the side of justice and on the side of correction. As a matter of fact, the job of all Pastors is to highlight the wrongs of yesterday in order to trigger the spirit of repentance. Without repentance, this cycle of human abuse shall not end. You cannot cover up President Lungus record of human rights abuses with caderistic support and Insults upon thise that remind you. Only repentance covers a multitude of sin.

I will keep reminding the nation until those of us responsible for injuring others say, SORRY.

Let those who love the truth learn something from this, apply it in their lives, and learn to treat those whom God has placed under them a little better. There is a God in heaven who sees through all, and watches over all.

And for those who choose to only see negativity in our advise, and those that only draw coldness from our humility in counsel, those who only know how to respond with Insults, this is also your time. You can go ahead too. It is only God who will Judge You…

MY TAKE ON THE PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS TO THE NATION THIS AFTERNOON

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. The President said he will allocate more resources for relief food. However, he failed to specify how much exactly will be allocated for this purpose. Is it K3 billion, K5 billion or K10 billion? Without being specific, the President’s statement does not mean much and is empty rhetoric.

2. Requesting farmers to plant now and use irrigation? Where will the water come from? The previous Government had a program to build dams across the country, why has the current administration halted this program?

3. FRA community sales of maize has commenced in Livingstone where mealie meal price is K320 and not Eastern Province where mealie meal is K460 per bag in Lundazi. Why the inconsistency?

4. Inherited a huge debt using what measure? Because the rate of debt contraction of $3bn per annum by UPND administration is far higher than that by previous regime. If the previous regime was borrowing at the rate the UPND administration was borrowing, the external debt upon leaving office would have been $26 billion and not $11 billion that it was in August 2021.

5. All finance and economic crimes to be prosecuted within 5 months per new laws passed? That will undermine the fight against corruption instead of enhancing it. If the magistrate or accused persons are sick and unavailable for trial, the jurisdiction of the court will be challenged after the expiry of the prescribed 5 months period, hence undermining the delivery of justice.

6. Government will aggressively stimulate irrigation? No specificity. How are you going to do that? What specific Programmes are you going to implement? Without specificity this remains mere rhetoric.

7. Using first class for short flights like to Johannesburg is pretentious behavior? But what about using a private jet the way you do when going to Johannesburg and Windhoek, Namibia, isn’t that also pretentious behavior?

8. The main reason we are panicking so much about this drought is because we do not have sufficient maize stocks in reserve. In fact we have less than 200,000 metric tonnes against an annual consumption of 1 million. One of the reasons we do not have sufficient stocks of maize is because Government sold most of our maize to DRC even when the information about the drought was publicly available. In the premises above, is it not reasonable for the Zambian people to expect an apology from the President for the poor decisions of his Government?

The Six Pointers And Signs That The Authorities Want To Frustrate The Registration Of The United Kwacha Alliance And The Political Parties Aligned To It

0

REGISTRATION OF THE UNITED KWACHA ALLIANCE, UKA.
29th February, 2024

The United Kwacha Alliance is a society along the lines of the United Democratic Party Alliance (UDA) which was registered under the Societies Act CAP 119 of the Laws of Zambia.

The objective of United Democratic Alliance are practically mirrored in the objectives of The United Kwacha Alliance and include providing;

A forum for political parties and civil society organizations that share the same political and economic ideas to engage in activities that promote democratic practices and values, good governance, and national development.

THE SIX POINTERS AND SIGNS THAT THE AUTHORITIES WANT TO FRUSTRATE THE REGISTRATION OF THE UNITED KWACHA ALLIANCE AND THE POLITICAL PARTIES ALIGNED TO IT

1. FIRST POINTERS AND SIGNS

On 13th February 2024, we applied for clearance and reservation of the name United Kwacha Alliance.

Later on the same day, obviously after some high ranking officials became aware of the reservation of the name, a call came from one of the staff at the Registrar of Societies asking if we were a political party.

2. SECOND POINTERS AND SIGNS

On 20th February 2024, an application setting out three proposed names for clearance for a political party that would be formed under which candidates identified by the UNITED KWACHA ALLIANCE would stand were submitted. The three names submitted to the Registrar of Societies were;

a. UKA
b. UKANI and
c. ARISE

The name ‘UKA’ was outrightly rejected without giving any reason whilst ‘UKANI’ and ‘ARISE’ were said to be available. UKANI was preferred.

The following day a call was received from the office of the Registrar of Societies that the name UKANI was no longer available.

3. THIRD POINTERS AND SIGNS

The promoters of UKANI went to see the officers at the Registrar of societies to find out why there was a change in clearance and reservation of the name.

They were not given a reason. The promoters then said they would take the third option of ‘ARISE’ which they had earlier been given. They were then told that even this previously cleared name was not available.

4. FOURTH POINTERS AND SIGNS

A letter was written by the promoters on 21st February 2024 asking to be given in writing the reasons for the withdrawal of the names they were previously told were available.

The office of the Registrar of Societies vehemently refused to accept the letter and verbally said they were not obliged to give reasons. No response to the letter has ever been made up to today.

Arising from the obvious stumbling blocks, we resolved that we would no longer engage with the various authorities incognito or through undeclared proxies.

5. FIFTH POINTERS AND SIGNS

On 28th February 2024, it became necessary that the our interim Chairman, Mr Sakwiba Sikota and President Silavwe to take a set of fingerprints to the service headquarters.

We wanted the police to clear the names so that we could then put the cleared names to the form that would go to the Registrar of Societies.

The law requires that the people who are office bearers in a society or party must have police clearance showing that they have no criminal record.

If any of the proposed shareholders turns out to have a criminal record the society or party must find someone to replace them.

Once you have ten cleared set of finger prints you then attach them to the form from the Registrar of Societies and take it to the city council for their scrutiny and endorsement.

The next step is that you then come back to the police and they conduct interviews of the office holders after which they too endorse the form.

Interim Chairperson Sikota and President Silavwe therefore went to the police to get over this hurdle of the police insisting that the names be put on the form before fingerprint clearance.

The police refused to do the fingerprint clearance and insisted that the uncleared names must be put on the form before they start the clearance process.

6. SIXTH POINTERS AND SIGNS

At no point did President Jackson Silavwe or State Counsel Sakwiba Sikota state that their submission of the fingerprints represented or culminated into the registration of UKA to the police.

We regret the fact that state police decided to act, without reference to any law that United Kwacha Alliance abrogated any procedure in the noble attempt of United Kwacha Alliance to take any steps to register the alliance.

If any breach has been committed, we seek direction from state police to point out the statutory provision to us that is necessitating the delay in processing the fingerprints so that we can remedy this.

We also want to remind Mr Rae Hamoonga (police spokesperson) and Inspector General Graphael Musamba that they will be judged in future by the same yard stick they are using today to deal with those they perceive to be opposition.

Instead we saw the police release a press statement barely 30 minutes after the 2 UKA leaders left the service headquarters. This must be the fastest reaction of the Zambia police since the independence of our country in 1964.

The bottom line is that there are unnecessary road blocks being put in the way of the People’s Movement but this will not deter or stop the momentum of the United Kwacha Alliance, UKA.

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF ECL- Tobias T. Banda

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF ECL.

It is hypocritical to claim that ECLs remarks amount to treason or ploting of a coup.

Those who have been lined up to be vuvuzelas in the media are clearly on a mission to psych unsuspecting Zambians to view ECL as an alarmist when in actual fact he is not.

There are videos on social media which have emerged as evidence of President HH calling for early elections as well as asking Zambians to rise against the President and the Government when he was in opposition.

That was the norm on most occasions when he appeared on radio, TV and Polical rallies and International media platforms.

Did anybody call for his arrest on those grounds? The answer is a big NO. Why is that so? Because he was allowed to politick and issue political statements as an opposition political party leader who has the right to participate in politics as provided for in our Republican Constitution.

If he was allowed to do politics and issue political statements without intimidation why should he today turn around and instruct the police and the speaker to spearhead a campaign to arrest the now leader of the biggest opposition political party for merely advising the Government to address the issues of police brutality so as to avoid agitating civil arrest? That is very hypocritical and Zambians should not allow our Country’s democracy to be raped in Broad day light.

President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is a Zambian citizen first and he has every right to participate in our Nation’s politics at any given point because the Country’s Constitution accords him that privilege.

Secondly he is a leader of a political party and he has the mandate to speak on behalf of the people and on behalf of the political party that he represents.

Nobody should be agitated and rise to issuing threats of arrests and detention everything he speaks out for poor Zambians who are suffering in poverty and hardships.

For your own information, the current high cost of living and harsh conditions of life have brought a heightened amount of tension in the compounds. It is therefore very prudent to handle political opponents whom the masses are seeing as their hope very carefully.

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF ECL AND CONCENTRATE ON ARRESTING THE HIGH COST OF LIVING AND THE SHORTAGE OF MEALIE MEAL.

Namwala’s biggest rancher to be buried tomorrow leaves behind K50m worth of cattle & 28 children

A close relative to the late Prominent Namwala biggest cattle rancher of Southern Province Teddy Namainga has revealed that the late Namainga has left behind over 4000 herds of cattle worth over K50 million and 28 children.

Teddy Namainga, fondly known Mukamaangwe, Namainga aged 84, died on 25th February, 2024, in Lusaka, after an illness.
Speaking in an exclusive with the Zambian Business Times-ZBT, Auster Chikwaye one of the close neighbors to the late Namainga also revealed that the late Namainga has also left behind 28 children and 35 dependents.

Chikwaye expressed sadness to Namainga’s demise adding that his death has come as a shock to his children, his dependents and the entire Southern Province.

Chikwaye said that Namainga’s death will really affect those he has left behind especially those he sponsored in school.

He said that the late Namainga loved upcoming farmers and was a role model to every young man in Namwala district.
He noted that the late Namainga was also a pillar not only at family level but at shimunenga ceremony adding that without him the ceremony will never be the same.

“In total the cattle he’s left behind are about 4000 herds of cattle. He had a lot of dependents who helped him to keep those animals. The average price of those animals is about K12,000 per cattle although some of the cattle even go up to K20,000 and K25,000 of which the cheapest can go up to k5,000. Mr Namainga has left behind 28 children and 35 dependants,” he said.
“The death of Mr. Namainga is really a sad thing that has affected his children and his dependents and the entire district because he was a motivation to every young man and he’s one person who loved upcoming farmers. People could learn from him, he was like a role model to especially young people.”

“His death will really affect those he sponsored in school because some might even drop out of school. He was a pillar even at our ceremony called shimunenga ceremony and without him and his animals the ceremony was more less like there was no… Follow the link to read the

WHIP MARKS ’ ON CHILD’S BODY CAME FROM UTH, STEPMOTHER TELLS COURT

THE LUSAKA woman currently on trial on charges of assaulting her four-year-old step son has now changed her defense, this time claiming that the whip marks on the child’s tiny body were bed sores which developed on his body when he was admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

Longwe Ngosa claimed that the child had maintained the same sleeping position during his stay in hospital when he broke his hand and as a result developed bed sores.

In this case Ngosa is charged with assault on a child which attracts a sentence of five years.

When she opened her defense early this month, Ngosa had told magistrate Mutinta Mwenya that the boy’s teacher, Naomi Chisola who brought the story to the public, was responsible for all the all torture marks on his tiny body.

Ngosa said her stepson had confided in her of having been whipped by Chisola, for defecating and urinating in his pants at school.

In continuing with her defense, Ngosa could not stick to her version of the boy having been tortured by his teacher but instead claimed the marks came from UTH.

She also alleged that the abrasions on his seemingly ballooned tummy was as a reaction to some food he is allergic to which he might have consumed from school.

Ngosa said when she was taken to Matero Police Station by military police officers, the arresting officer charged her with unlawful wounding, which she later changed and charged her with assault on a child.

“When I asked her why she changed, she said she had no evidence to show the weapon I used. I asked her why and she said she was just following orders,”she said.

Ngosa said that she took the child in as her own when he was a year old in 2021 and she has been taking good care of him since then.

“I have always considered him as my child and not my stepson. I have always been taking care of him and giving him the support he needs as a child. And even the time he was brought home, it was my decision to bring him home so that I can raise him from there,” she said.

“The marks on the back, he obtained them when he was admitted to UTH after he broke his leg. He developed sore beds due to the position he was told to sleep in. And due to that position he developed bed sores. After he obtained bed sores, the doctor recommended me to buy the cream I came with last time to avoid him having more bed sores.”

She said the other sores on his stomach were as a result of an allergy as he ate relish which he is allergic to.

“What I know is that when a child is taken to school and the teacher discovers marks or change of character, they report to the school authority. When they report to the school authority, they are supposed to call me and question me but there was nothing like that, I was never called,” she claimed.

“On August 4,2023, I told my eldest son that I wanted to speak to the school authority about the beatings my son got from school. I went the following day I asked a teacher if at all he had seen my son behaving strangely at school. She said there was nothing like that but she said every time she went to his classroom, she would find him standing while all his friends were sitting. She also said he would talk to no one for a long period of time.”

Coming to the reporting of the case, when something happens at camp, cases are supposed to be reported to the provost office.

Ngosa said she wondered who gave Chisola authority to get her step son from class and take him to the director’s house.

“It only shows that even the time she beat my son, she used to take him to the directors house. And for her to keep quiet to the school means she was keeping something. She decided to report in secret because she knew she was guilty. She was supposed to inform the school and they summon me,” said Ngosa.

“Coming to where I stay, the houses are close to each other. And if my son obtained the beatings from my home, the neighbours would know about it and there is no way I can beat that child. I would know that I was going to put myself at risk and because I took him to school, it means I have nothing to hide. If there was something strange happening from home, people would have noticed.”

In cross examination by State prosecutor Malama Chisenga, the accused confirmed that the child had a cut on his face and abrasions on different parts of the body.

Asked if she complained to the school about the injuries that the little boy sustained, Ngosa denied.

When asked if the child was diagnosed with bed sores by a medical personnel, the accused responded in the negative.

Ngosa denied having a good relationship with the child’s teacher Chisola.

Magistrate Mwenya has set March 11, 2024 for judgement.

Hands Off Edgar Lungu, We Forsee Heavy Political Malice Coming Against Someone Who Did Not Commit Any Crime-  UMODZI KUM’MAWA

0

For immediate release

HANDS OFF EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU, WE FORSEE HEAVY POLITICAL MALICE COMING AGAINST SOMEONE WHO DID NOT COMMIT ANY CRIME

As KUM’MAWA DEVELOPMENT COALITION (KDC) also known as UMODZI KUM’MAWA, we would like to strongly emphasize that there is absolutely nothing illegal or criminal about President Edgar Lungu’s recent statement in which he mentioned that Zambians may rise against the UPND Government before 2026 if the police continue to beat up, harass and tear gas innocent people anyhow.

As KDC, we have watched the video interview featuring the former head of state and we clearly concluded that, he was merely reminding and warning the police to conduct themselves in a professional and civil manner when dealing with Zambians because our citizens who are already enduring great suffering may easily rise up against the government if not well handled by law enforcement agencies. To us, this is a political statement made in good faith and with good heart from someone who is an experienced statesman.

However, we are saddened to see multiple statements coming from Zambia police, government institutions, ruling party cadres, state sponsored media platforms and UPND leaders calling for the arrest, prosecution and imprisonment of president Lungu on account that his statement borders on either coup attempts or treason. Unfortunately, the public broadcaster, ZNBC TV was not speared in spreading what we now believe is political witch hunt, malice and persecution against the former president. We think this is really sad for many well meaning Zambians.

As a pressure group, we want to put it on record and reiterate in the strongest terms possible that we do not welcome nor support any form of possible political harassment or persecution against the former President on account on his objective advise to the police and the government. As a movement that advocates to defend and advance the rights and interests of Easterners, KDC will take such political actions threat to rule of law, democracy, peaceful coexistence and national unity especially that those calling for the blood of president Lungu seem to be a cohort of bitter people from the Zambezi provinces and ruling party associates.

If such political malice is being championed against innocent people, we will stand in solidarity with President Lungu because he hails from Eastern Province and will the son of Eastern soil. We hence call upon the government to reconsider any attempts to politically intimidate or harass president Lungu because many people of Eastern Province and the entire country are not willing to allow the mistreatment or harassment of our former head of state in any manner that is deemed malicious and vengeful. These actions may not only undermine the democratic principles we hold dear but also obstruct the developmental progress of this great country we now call a Christian Nation.

We want to take this opportunity to also urge the Inspector General of Police to remind his officers to act above board and outside political partisanship. By this, we mean that they do not need political influence for them to act on anything or investigate anyone including Dr Edgar Lungu. If any politician committed a crime, let the police make their findings devoid of heavy political hands as seen in the several statements issued by those politically inclined on Wednesday on different media platforms.

Umodzi Kum’mawa Development Coalition (KDC) aims to strategically advance development programs for the people of Eastern Province in the broader context for the modernization and development of Zambia by advocating and defending for their interests and rights in all sectors. The coalition recognizes that the region has abundant natural resources and the local people must always be engaged and prioritized to discover and actualize their full developmental potential just like other Zambians elsewhere.

‘DON’T BEAT AND TEAR-GAS HUNGRY AND ANGRY PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY CAN RISE UP AGAINST HH AND REMOVE HIM PREMATURELY’, ECL WARNED POLICE AND HIS UTTERANCES ARE NOT SEDITIOUS OR CRIMINAL AT ALL- Chris Zumani

ZAMBIA POLICE ‘MISLEADS’ ITSELF: ‘DON’T BEAT AND TEAR-GAS HUNGRY AND ANGRY PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY CAN RISE UP AGAINST HH AND REMOVE HIM PREMATURELY’, ECL WARNED POLICE AND HIS UTTERANCES ARE NOT SEDITIOUS OR CRIMINAL AT ALL

By Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba

Let us watch this video together and make independent decisions than being misled as we discuss only 12 points:

1. After the city council inspector confiscated his only income generating machine and refused to release it, Mohamed Bouazizi doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire and died. This is what triggered an uprising in Tunisia in December, 2010 countrywide and saw the ousting of President Ben Ali in January, 2011 as he was blamed for high unemployment, poverty, economic hardships, and council police brutality against street vendors.

2. What happened in Tunisia in 2011 is exactly what president Lungu was reminding and advising the police. The context of President Lungu’s interview was necessitated by police brutality at Kabwata police, prevailing hunger, high cost of living, staple food scarcity, unnecessary police provocation, citizen anger and possible civil uprisings against a government.

3. In 2015, Former US Senator, Pat Roberts said “Show me a nation that cannot feed itself, and I’ll show you a nation in chaos”. Today, Zambia is facing a staple food crisis and national hunger is the word.

4. We sold our maize reserves, there are no rains, famine is looming, mealie meal is becoming too expensive each day, and many people are hungry and angry. Look, these are economic conditions of what existed in Tunisia in 2010 before the uprising.

5. In 2017, the World Food Program USA (WFP) produced a report on “food-related instability” in the US and linked ways that ‘hunger drives conflict’. With high cost of living, food shortages and this national hunger, President Lungu’s warning to Zambia police’s violent and inhumane treatment of hungry and angry citizens is timely and beneficial to President Hakainde’s rule and government.

6. In 2023, British Red Cross confirmed that “Soaring food prices, conflict and climate change are plunging Africa into a severe food crisis with plus 150 million people facing extreme hunger”. Since Zambia is part of this situation, the police must know that harassing and tear gassing hungry people like they did at Kabwata police is politically very dangerous for this UPND government of HH.

7. Hungry and angry people easily raise up like they did in Tunisia in 2011. If the police keep on harassing and beating up innocent citizens like we saw at Kabwata police station, the same police will be directly undermining law and order and peaceful coexistence because hungry and angry citizens are too dangerous everywhere and anywhere.

8. In countries like Venezuela, Iran, Tunisia, South Africa, Libya, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and many others, we have seen how street protests or uprisings were initiated and championed by people who were agitated, irritated and irked by their own governments of which the police were the main triggers and catalysts. This is where President Lungu’s warning must be taken serious by the UPND government and everyone.

9. President Lungu’s statement was conditional: if police brutal behavior is not adjusted against citizens, it has the potential to trigger citizen protests, chaos and consequently force HH to step down prematurely.

10. ECL’s statement was a strong caution to the police not to provoke and anger people’s emotions anyhow because many are already struggling with economic hardships, are unhappy and depressed. This is objective, sound and practical advice to any government.

11. Therefore, my appeal to Zambia police is that, don’t deliberately mislead yourselves concerning ECL’s statement. Don’t allow politicians to urinate on their professional integrity and institutional reputation.

12. Don’t accept to be dragged into partisan politics by anyone. This is important because, politics is like wind, it is never consistent in blowing towards one direction but ever changes directions any day, anytime.

HICHILEMA RETURNS TO THE BAROTSE ISSUE IN CHIPATA- Fred M’membe

HICHILEMA RETURNS TO THE BAROTSE ISSUE IN CHIPATA

It is sad to note that Mr Hakainde Hichilema and those around him have failed to develop or improve their leadership skills in the two and half years that they have been in power.

It’s is clear that Mr Hichilema has been on a limitless one-man power exhibition. He appears to speak without much thought, self-limitation, and moderation. He is literally his own advisor too.

Worse still, Mr Hichilema doesn’t seem to weigh the consequences of his utterances.

On his own, Mr Hichilema decided to set fire on himself by bringing up the issue of the Barotseland Agreement to a totally wrong forum – the Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province.

Mr Hichilema continues to provoke the people of Barotseland by not fully understanding the matter at hand, and respecting their feelings, right or wrong.

Why try to humiliate them in this manner? Was he trying to turn the Ngonis against the Lozis? Was this intended to humiliate the Lozis?

We advise Mr Hichilema to meet the Lozi leadership and try to resolve these issues with maturity, decorum and respect. Issuing intimidatory statements at traditional ceremonies is certainly not the best way to approach such a contentious and emotive issue.

Let Mr Hichilema convene an indaba where proposals and views on the Barotseland Agreement can be discussed and a workable solution found.

Mr Hichilema must meet the right people representing Barotseland and not the politicians from Lusaka that are lying to him.

We actually wonder who is advising Mr Hichilema on the Barotseland Agreement issue! Is it elements from Barotseland that he has given jobs or none Lozis who are totally ignorant about the issue?

We had decided to stop talking about this issue and give him space to think through this and possibly resolve it. But because of his lack of a disciplined approach to problems and his reckless utterances, we are forced to say something again.

We strongly believe the traditional leadership in Zambia has more wisdom, tact and leadership skills to deal with such delicate matters than Mr Hichilema and his appointees combined together.

Mr Hichilema must know that there is always a heavy price to pay for being excessively absorbed in one’s own interests, thoughts and desires.

Life always humbles an arrogantly conceited mind. It’s just a matter of time!

Unlike the lifting of Immunity of Chiluba and RB which was done with ease in Parliament, the law has now changed since 2016- Dickson Jere

*By Dickson Jere*

Unlike the lifting of Immunity of former President Frederick Chiluba (2002) and Rupiah Banda (2013) which was done with ease in Parliament, the law has now changed since 2016. See Article 98 of the Constitution.

In Chiluba and Banda cases, a wide range of unsubstantiated allegations were made in Parliament, which prompted MPs to lift Presidential immunity without verification of the allegations. And it was by mere simple majority vote by Parliament! But now the law has changed. The following pointers must now be followed for lifting Immunity:

1. It is the sitting President himself who should go to Parliament and present a Report detailing the specific allegations against former President. (Rupiah Banda was done by Minister of Justice).

2. The allegations must be specific and Parliament is obliged to set-up a special Committee to probe the allegations before tabling them in the House unlike in the Chiluba and Banda case.

3. The former President, unlike previous, is allowed to challenge and be heard at Parliament before lifting of immunity. So, if the allegations are fake, the Committee will inform Parliament and the whole process fails! Lawyers get involved at this stage like in the US during congressional hearing of impeachment of the President.

4. If the Committee finds that the allegations are valid, Parliament will still has to vote for lifting of immunity and the motion requires two-thirds majority unlike in Chiluba and Banda cases where you just needed simple majority.

5. Once immunity is lifted, the former President ought to charged with those specific charges or alleged offences that Parliament approved and nothing else. In both Chiluba and Banda cases, they were charged with other unrelated offences not presented to Parliament.

6. If acquitted by the Courts, immunity is given back automatically by operation of law unlike in the Chiluba and Banda cases.

The effect of the above entails that the former President must be investigated first and prima facie case found against him before contemplating to lift immunity. There is no law that stops law enforcement agencies from investigating former President but prosecution. The process has now been lengthened following the unsuccessful prosecution of Chiluba and Banda. No ordinary MP or Minister can move Parliament to remove immunity unlike in the past. It must be President.

DANGER OF A SINGLE STORY – A CASE OF MR EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU

DANGER OF A SINGLE STORY – A CASE OF MR EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU

Authored By Mupishi Jones

Those who chose to believe a single story without listening to the other side of the same story, are likely to arrive at wrong conclusions.Always remember that every story has two sides.

The danger of meeting, chatting, dining, walking, planning with the same people and faces everyday,24/7 is that you start sharing the same fears, you start telling each other what you want to hear, you start believing in what you discuss everyday and eventually you start thinking and convincing yourselves that it is what every citizen is thinking out there! You lose yourself, you lose your critical thinking, you lose your objectivity and rationality and eventually you become out of reality.

You start believing that what you are doing is very right and in the best interest of everyone and yet not. That’s the same thinking that gives rise to extremism either political or religious extremists.

Since Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu lost power in 2021,he has been meeting, discussing, dining, walking, jogging with the same people and faces everyday 24/7 who contributed to his humiliating defeat from power. Today the same people and faces have convinced Mr Lungu to convince himself into thinking that Zambians wants him back into power, he’s convinced himself that the majority citizens made a mistake to vote him out of power and that now they’re regretting. That is what is driving him to behave and talk the way he is talking today. He has convinced himself that he was a far much more better leader than President Hakainde Hichilema and that even his worst as a President cannot much President Hakainde Hichilema’s best performance.Thats what believing in a single story can do, delusional thinking.
Mr Lungu doesn’t believe that the brutality of his regime was lethal because he was surrounded by the same people and faces everyday 24/7 who were telling him what he wanted to hear only and not the truth. He doesn’t even believe that a citizen like Lawrence Banda,a young man full of life was gunned down to death in cold blood by his personal barberman during political by-election campaigns in Kaoma when he was the commander in chief of all the security wings in this country.Mr Lungu doesn’t believe that the brutality of his regime extended deep into compounds were innocent citizens were permanently maimed by his political cadres .To hear that there are a lot of citizens within Lusaka who never set foot into Intercity for the whole duration of his term in office because they were suspected to be supporters of the opposition especially UPND,Mr Lungu thinks these are just fairytale stories aimed at denting his image….. effects of a single story.
I don’t think Mr Lungu thinks citizens like Mapenzi,Nsama and others died in cold blood through the brutality of his regime. If you tell Mr Lungu today that his PF cadres were more powerful than the state police, he’d simply laugh at you and accuse you of scandalizing him.
That’s the level of how isolated Mr Lungu has become from the realities of his brutal regime.

He is complaining of shrinking democratic space and yet he is free to speak from anywhere anytime without even constantly looking behind his shoulder the way his friends were running through rooftops of radio stations .I doubt if Mr Lungu knows that from the time UPND assumed office, there has been no organized political attack on any opposition political party from the UPND cadres, there’s been no closure of private radio stations, there’s being no political fights at burial sites, there’s being no political violence in either bus stations or markets! I don’t know whether he has forgotten that equally UPND had raised lethal political party cadres capable of handling and repelling the attacks from PF cadres when they were in power and that these UPND cadres are still around except under restraint? Mr Lungu is a lucky African politician who ascended to the presidency without ever setting foot in a police cell.He inherited the presidency through a sympathy vote when President Sata died midterm. His second term was marked with a lot of controversy. No wonder his exit was a historical and unprecedented defeat. He is even lucky that the current President is extremely tolerant.I’m sure even himself he knows and it’s the reason he’s riding on.

The bitter truth is that Mr Lungu was running a very brutal regime more than any other regime in the history of this country.Just like a fish under water doesn’t know whether it’s raining up there, its equally normal for Mr Lungu and his colleagues in PF not to believe that their reign was full of terror because they were the perpetrators of this and usually beneficiaries of a cruel system do not see anything wrong with their system.

Mr Lungu and his colleagues in PF might be rightly so,pointing at a number of projects that they did when in power as justification for their come back. However what they do not realize is that in the eyes of many citizens, those projects are nothing but painful reminders of how government and political leaders can steal from the very citizens they purport to be serving. It is an indisputable fact that Mr Lungu and his colleagues in PF collectively became richer than the government that employed them within their term of office.

Mr Lungu was and he’s still the creator of the problems which he wants to pretend to come and solve today.
Let him come out of his old circle of PF friends and see the reality from a neutral angle…..no normal citizens can miss his regime….. zero!

POLICE ARE UNDERMINING DEMOCRACY AND DECAMPAIGNING PRESIDENT HH – ANDD

POLICE ARE UNDERMINING DEMOCRACY AND DECAMPAIGNING PRESIDENT HH – ANDD

The Advocates for National Development and Democracy says it is deeply saddened by Wednesday’s action by the police during former president Edgar Lungu’s presence at Kabwata police station.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda says what happened is a clear threat to the country’s political coexistence, which if left unchecked will negatively affect the country’s democracy and the rule of law.

“We are cognizant of the fact that President Hakainde Hichilema has preached the importance of upholding the rule of law, which unfortunately is not what is pertaining, going by the police conduct in recent times, including on Wednesday when they should have not used such force on a small crowd gathered to offer solidarity. The police must uphold the rule of law and ensure the protection of democratic principles, including allowing opposition political parties to operate freely without intimidation,” he stated.

“We feel any actions that undermine this fundamental aspect of democracy erode trust in law enforcement and threaten the integrity of the political process. The conduct of our men in uniform is denting the integrity of the Government because police are part of the governance process through the safeguarding of people’s rights regardless of political affiliations.”

Mr Banda said this conduct is therefore likely to decampaign President Hichilema if the trend by the police is left unchecked.

“We also want to echo Mr Lungu’s statement which is a reminder to the police not to provoke hungry and angry Zambians who are in need of peace, law and order. As an organization, we want to appeal to the Zambia police to therefore remain politically neutral, stand professionally upright and resist the temptation of being used as political pawns in national matters,” he added.

“This is important because once the Zambia police is deemed politically biased and compromised, public confidence and stakeholders’ trust in them becomes automatically eroded and undermined. The Zambia police is one public institution that is closely monitored by local and international stakeholders when assessing democratic rule, good governance, rule of law, law and order as well as protection of citizens’ rights and fundamental freedoms.”

He said in all fairness and honesty, his video analysis of the PF members and supporters who gathered at Kabwata Police Station in the morning of Tuesday revealed that the crowd was so small and handful in number.

“From a professional point of you, we believe that the police were not supposed to have used tear gas canisters especially the men and women in uniform were more in numbers. In addition, we are aware that Kabwata Police Station is near four important public facilities (1) Kabwata Clinic, (2) Kabwata market, (3) Chimbokaila state prison, (4) University Teaching Hospital (UTH) is within walking distance too,” he indicated.

“Given this situation, Zambia police misled themselves to act with physical force and shoot tear gas canisters as this act was provocative in nature, inciting mob reaction and also unnecessarily both threatening, intimidating and alarming. While we commend the Zambia police for being vigilant in maintaining law and order, we also recognize that Zambia is a multiparty democracy and all political players must be treated the same as well as protected by the state itself.”

The ANDD boss said if Zambia is to see development and democracy mature, Zambia police will be an important player in ensuring that all stakeholders are protected and their rights and freedoms are respected and guaranteed.

“Therefore, we also wish to condemn police brutality and violence we saw and witnessed at Kabwata police yesterday where a few unarmed people were physically beaten, made to scamp in all directions and many others including bypassing citizens tear gassed with canisters like smoking rats. This gesture from the Zambia police undermines democracy and is unconstitutional,” he submitted.

UK minister offers to meet family of killed Kenyan woman

0

The UK’s Minister for the Armed Forces has offered to personally meet the family of a Kenyan woman allegedly murdered more than a decade ago by a British soldier.

James Heappey told the BBC he “absolutely” understood the pain of the relatives of Agnes Wanjiru, whose body was discovered in 2012 in a septic tank near a British military base in Nanyuki, central Kenya.

Speaking to the BBC during a visit to the country, he said: “I absolutely understand their pain…I am happy to meet and discuss and sympathise and understand as best I can”.

During an earlier visit to Kenya, Mr Heappey had suggested a meeting between British officials and Ms Wanjiru’s family, but none has since taken place.

In October last year the family wrote an open letter to King Charles saying “British officials don’t seem to care” about the case, and asked the monarch for a visit during his trip to the country.

The author of the letter, Ms Wanjiru’s niece Esther Njoki, welcomed Mr Heappey’s offer with “a warm heart” and said she hoped that “justice would be served and prevail this year”.

“It’s been 12 years of pain…and frustration,” she told the BBC. “Every time they come, they promise, but their promises, they are unkept… And we are worried that time is really moving and nothing has been done.”

The minister told the BBC that Kenya had not formally asked for the extradition of suspects, but the UK would support any requests that are made “up to and including charging and an extradition”.

Seven years after Ms Wanjiru’s death, a Kenyan inquest concluded that she had been murdered by one or two British soldiers.

Following reports of an alleged cover-up, Kenya’s Department of Criminal Investigations opened an inquiry, but has yet to charge anyone.

Mr Heappey said he sympathised with the family’s anger at how long the process is taking.

But he clarified that any meeting would not be about accepting culpability on behalf of the UK while the legal investigation continued.- BBC

What Edgar Lungu Said, Is What He Could Have Been Advising Hichilema If The Two Were Talking- Kalaba

0

“WHAT ECL SAID, IS WHAT HE COULD HAVE BEEN ADVISING HICHILEMA IF THE TWO WERE TALKING,” SAYS KALABA
…Police must stand down

I have received queries from members of the press seeking to hear our position as CF on the statement by the 6th Republican President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu following the continued abuse on himself and some members of his party from the government through the state sponsored Police.

Our take is that the caution Dr. Lungu was giving is very timely advice and any well meaning leader must take with open arms. Instead, our Police force is planning to effect an arrest on the former President as a way of sending fear in him and the rest of the citizens who feel disenfranchised by the shrinking political space.

What Dr. Lungu raised as a concern, is what he and president Hakainde should be discussing if the two had a cordial relation. If indeed as president Hakainde had said in one of his public appearances that the two were talking, these are issues that the former head of state should have been advising the president about, but in the absence of that channel of communication, he is left with no option but to use the media to send timely warning to his successor.

What is worrying is that, while Dr. Lungu was raising his concerns around the cause and effects of a brutal police force and a diminished political space, it is ironic that the police command had opted to ignore the cause and decided to focus on the effect. The truth of the matter is that going by the hunger and anger levels in the country; the police should be thankful to Dr. Lungu for that advice to the head of state.

We call upon the Police to holster their guns and stand down on their plans to effect an arrest on the former President. He highlighting the Effect, let President Hakainde deal with the Cause which is police brutality and diminishing political space. These are facts and the advice is timely.

We have heard people arguing that to whom much is given much is expected; but we would like to know what has been given to President Lungu to expect much from him. The last we checked his salary, his security and all the privileges due to a former head of state were withdrawn. In the eyes of President HH, President Lungu is just an ordinary citizen so why don’t you want him to speak out for the suffering masses when things are not going well?

We ask the police to stand down and re echo the concerns raised by Dr. Lungu to president Hakainde. This country needs healing and food security, arresting political opponents will neither produce food nor will it heal the nation but will only help to ignite it and divide us further.

EDGAR AND HIS SPONSORS ARE SERIOUS ABOUT COUP

EDGAR AND HIS SPONSORS ARE SERIOUS ABOUT COUP .

By Pungwa(Zambia Eagle)

When edgar lungu charged that president HH , a legitimate president of the republic of zambia , will be forced to give up power before 2026 he did not mince his words .

We say this because a lot of zambians are not aware about the dark side of zambias politics , where previous presidents were captured , controlled and eventually brought down by fertiliser and safari hunting oligarchs .

Rupiah banda was the 1st to be captured , he had to give contracts single sourced to Gulam patels company . When gulam wanted to meet rupiah it was rupiah who had to travel to gulams residence in makeni . It was micheal sata who revealed this in his last campaigns before 2011 elections .

And when rupiah lost , gulam asked rupiah not to hand over power to sata but rather to the army . It was fred mmembe who persuaded KK to warn rupiah that Lusaka would burn if he did not concede defeat .

Under edgar the capture was worse , truck loads of beer , women from far east were arranged for edgar at private game ranches belonging to gulam and irfan yousuf , a fugitive who was exposed by harry kalaba before elections . Gulam , bokani , zuneid and irfan were receiving single sourced contracts , money paid in advance but goods not supplied .

The presidential jet was used by yusuf brothers for their family wedding in dubai .
Edgar was told that they had arranged 500,000 pre marked ballots which led to lungu telling the nation that he would win by 500,000 votes in his campaigns .
When lungu stood in 2016 , gulams residential workers were seen lifting ballot boxes at bayuni school in makeni .
And when edgar lost it was gulam and irfan yousuf who asked edgar not to concede defeat .

It was only after they were exposed by activists that irfan rushed to rupiah on sunday morning pretending that he wanted edgar to concede defeat but by then amos chanda had already warned rupiah that irfan did not come to him in good faith .
After HH came to power they couldnt capture him but warned him that they would make zambia ungovernable . They used all media and courts to fight HH to get their safari areas back but HH had said they must be hit where it hurts most that is fertiliser and fuel contracts .

That is how the fertiliser and fuel propaganda is being driven .
President HH has warned previously that some people were planning a coup in zambia and lungus statements confirm this .
The president was warned not to treat Lungus sponsors with kids gloves and it is now coming to light why he was warned .

The yusuf brothers and gulam patel had lungu captured , and they now own majority of zambias land totalling thousands of hectors which president HH wanted to cancel but some of the presidents advisors are all in the payroll of irfan yousuf and that is why the president could not cancel them .

Before lungus sponsors rise up against zambias elected president zambians must rise up against the ‘guptas’ of zambia .
Lets join hands and fight the war mongers.- Zambia Eagle

“ZAMBIAINS ALREADY ROSE AGAINST LUNGU ON 12TH AUGUST 2021”- UPND

“ZAMBIAINS ALREADY ROSE AGAINST LUNGU ON 12TH AUGUST 2021”

There is a famous say that ” It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” After loosing power in 2021, Mr Lungu has been shaping his next destiny through his careless statements. Thanks to his immunity because by this time he should have been behind bars either for crimes he committed which led to Zambiains vote him out or what he has been saying recently.

It was saddening to hear Mr Lungu agitating for an uprise against a legitimate President whom Zambiains voted for to remove him from power after abusing his presidency.

Mr Lungu must appreciate that we have a God fearing Republican President now in President Hakainde Hichilema who is also just committed to important national issues than politicking.

Zambiains know who Mr Lungu is because his Police was known for abusing Zambiains publicly and even killing Zambiains in many occasions. It is without respect for Zambiains for Lungu to state that the current conduct of police officers may make Zambiains to rise against the President.

Zambiains never rose against Lungu when his Police killed Nsama Nsama, Mapenzi Chibulo, Lawrence Banda and many others. Zambiains never rose against Lungu when his Police undressed Mrs Chishimba Kambwili in public view of our Children, Zambiains never rose against Lungu for many Zambiains who died in almost all the by-elections during his PF Presidency. Why should Zambiains rise against a Republican President who has brought freedoms which even Lungu himself is abusing?

We want to remind Mr Lungu that Zambiains already rose against him in 2021 and currently all is well in Zambia. As Zambiains we have free education for our Children, increased CDF from which we have grants for our businesses, loans, school sponsorships, free trade skills, desks for our Children, building of schools and many more things.

We have seen mines revamping under President Hakainde Hichilema translating into more jobs for our Children and expansion of SMEs sector. On this call Mr Lungu is on his own and we are happy that the Police is investigating his careless statement.

With the development we are now seeing in Lambaland on the Copperbelt, we will not allow Mr Lungu to continue misbehaving and misusing his immunity.

HH running a kleptocracy – Zimba

By Ernest Chanda

POLITICAL scientist Chris Zimba says Tranpranecy International’s 2023 Corruption Perception Index and Zambia was meant to fool President Hakainde Hichilema who runs a kleptocracy.

Accordongto the Cambridge English Dictionary, kleptocracy is a society whose leaders make themselves rich and powerful by stealing from the rest of the people.

In January 2024, Transparency International -Zambia (TIZ) released their 2023 Global Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).

TIZ announced that for the first time in 10 years, Zambia’s corruption perception score had had improved by four points from 33 to 34.

But Dr Zimba who was former president Edgar Lungu’s political advisor from 2029 to 2021 dismissed the findings as ‘’empirically total nonsense and morally rubbish’’.

‘’TIZ shockingly announced that, ‘for the first time in 10 years, Zambia’s corruption perceptions score improved at global level from 33 to 37 and thereby ranking from 116th to 98th position’. By implication, TIZ meant that the perception of corruption among stakeholders in Zambia has improved from worse to better. But we know that HH runs a kleptocracy, a government where corrupt politicians enrich themselves secretly outside the rule of law, through kickbacks, bribes, and special favours from lobbyists and corporations, or they simply direct state funds to themselves and their associates,’’ he said in his writeup titled ‘TIZ fooled HH: Bally runs a kleptocracy (Rule by theft) like old Seseko of Congo or Razak of Malaysia’. ‘’As such, we find TIZ ‘2023 Corruption Perception Index’ to have blue colours of ‘fools day’ and very difficult to appreciate… At the kleptomaniac pace Bally’s government is moving, there is no doubt HH’s regime is likely to surpass ‘the world’s greatest financial scandal’ of 2015 in Malaysia soon or later. And Transparency International Zambia will be shamed with regret and embarrassment for fooling themselves and a sober head of state and government with inaccurate corruption perception reports. Their 2024 CPI on Zambia is empirically total nonsense and morally rubbish.’’

Dr Zimba cited incidences of corruption in the new dawn which, in his opinion, cannot be dismissed.

‘’In the 2024 Zambia’s budget, we saw how $1 million (more than K25 million Kwacha) will be spent on President’s foreign Advisory Services. Tony Blair, a renowned gay champion, HH’s friend and his foundation as well as Greg Mills, Bally’s trusted advisor and his Brenthurst are direct beneficiaries of this tax payers money in the name of kleptocracy,’’ Dr Zimba said. ‘’This president, our HH and his government are intently and visibly walking the path of Razak’s kleptocracy in many ways as you[’ll] soon see. By the way, by definition, kleptocracy is a form of government where theft, corruption, looting, plundering and embezzlement of public resources is made routine and common practice.’’

He likened President Hakainde Hichilema to late Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo) leader Mobutu Sese Seko.

‘’In conclusion, we should vividly note that the scale of corruption scandals and evidence of it under HH’s UPND administration is pointing to inbuilt naked kleptocracy in his presidency and government just like Mobutu Seseko of DR Congo. Maybe this explains why BBC last month, mistakenly reported that HH was the Congolese President being sworn in for his second term in Kinshasa. He is ‘Congolese ruler’ with governance colours of Mobutu Seseko,’’ said Dr Zimba. ‘’We must applaud Dr. Fred M’membe for defining UPND’s government on 13th January, 2024 that ‘HH runs a government of thieves, by thieves and for the thieves’. Factually, this is the most accurate meaning of kleptocracy to the extent that no person or institution can doubt, distort or debate the captioned description and preposition in HH’s government for now.’’

Why is Archbishop Banda vocal now,why was he quiet during Lungu’s brutal reign, asks Siatubotu

Why is Archbishop Banda vocal now,why was he quiet during Lungu’s brutal reign, asks Siatubotu

By Kholiwe Miti

THE Voice executive director Faith Siatubotu has wondered why Lusaka Archbishop Alick Banda is suddenly outspoken when he was quiet during the PF government.

Siatubotu says the Archbishop should have used the same energy to speak for victims of brutality.

“It is quite disappointing and hurtful that Archbishop Alick Banda today decides to voice out when he was silent like still waters when there was massive bloodshed in the country under the leadership of former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu,” she said in a statement. “Where was the Archbishop when the country was being looted by the PF? Where was he when Vespers Shimunzhila, Lawrence Banda, Mapenzi Chibulo, Frank Mugala, state prosecutor Nsama Nsama and many others were murdered? Where was he when President Hakainde Hichilema was incarcerated on trumped-up charges? Why was he silent when the Tongas were being insulted and demonised, others losing their jobs because of one man (HH)?”

She also challenged Archbishop Banda to state what he really stands for.

“Where was the Archbishop when citizens were being beaten for wearing political regalia in opposition of PF? The PF committed grand corruption, crimes against the people of Zambia in full sight of everyone and the evidence is the Zambian people turning up in numbers to vote them out. What does the Archbishop stand for? Is he a representative of the Church and the pulpit or a political tool in a holy robe?” wondered Siatubotu. “Let the Archbishop come out in the open and declare his position so that we can choose which lens to view him with. But one thing is certain, the Archbishop does and is not standing for the truth. If he were, he would have rebuked the former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu for his pathetic leadership, and advocated for the arrest of those that committed crimes against the Zambian people. The question is why speak now when he was silent when we needed him? We respectfully ask the Archbishop to kindly take a seat and allow those who stand for the truth defend the Zambian people like they did against the PF, not those who voice out only when it is convenient and beneficial to them.”
