THE MAJOR PROBLEM RIGHT NOW IS NJALA – DR M’MEMBE

THE MAJOR PROBLEM RIGHT NOW IS NJALA – DR M’MEMBE

… ubunga, the cost of living is escalating

Lusaka, Monday, October 9, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

Leader of the opposition Socialist Party (SP) Dr Fred M’membe has bemoaned how “njala” has continued hitting ordinary Zambians hard.

Speaking when he addressed the media at the Magistrate’s Court in Lusaka today, Dr M’membe lamented that families are failing to feed.

He explained that even those that used to afford three decent meals are now struggling to afford one.

“The problems are the same. The major problem right now it’s njala, ubunga, the cost of living is escalating. Families are failing to feed. Yes, we have other problems, but the problem of food is the most urgent and good leaders are moved by the stress people are going through,” he said.

“This is an emergence. We can’t pretend things are okay or they will sort themselves out. the issue of food cannot sort itself out. Families that were eating three meals a day today are struggling to have one meal. Banamayo baleshitisha pa market, lelo they are only getting about one third of what they were getting. If people are buying food for three meals, now they are buying for one meal. It means business yaba marketeer yaiya pansi.”

Dr M’membe explained the need for more jobs to be created adding that those that the New Dawn Government brags about are not enough.

“If the marketeers are selling less it means kulya ba order ifintu, nakwena ama sales yaya panshi. When the marketeers finishes selling in the evening, she passes through some shops to buy this and that. If what she is earning, her sales have gone down, it means what she is buying from those shops also is going down,” he said.

“Lyonse ama sales nga yapona nenchito shapona. Inchito shileluba, shileya. More and more of our people today are losing jobs. Jobs that are not being accounted for. Jobs that I am talking about, nobody accounts for these jobs. But thousands and thousands of jobs are being lost today. For most of our people to earn a living from this economy they need a job. If they don’t have a job they can’t earn a living. The few jobs that are being offered, are being talked about in government of thousand, a few thousand of this and that are not enough.”

He complained that while the cost of living keeps skyrocketing, it has become difficult for companies to increase salaries for their workers.

“We need thousands and thousands and thousands of jobs. Even those who are in jobs today, to increase their salary it’s a problem because the businesses they are working for are not making enough money. If businesses are not making enough money how to they increase the wages of the people? The cost of living is going up and up and up every day but the wages are going down. There is a problem,” he said.

“Even here, if we had to count how many people have eaten breakfast today, how many people had a proper meal yesterday, there will be very few of you. Wherever you move now you don’t see people smiling, people laughing, the picture is so gloomy. The prospects are too desperate. Something has to be done. God has given us everything that we need to sort out these problems, ichishupile mitekele.”

IF KAUNDA AND SIMON MWANSA KAPWEPWE WERE THE WAY WE ARE TODAY…Zambia would still be colonized – Gabriel Elias Banda

IF KAUNDA AND SIMON MWANSA KAPWEPWE WERE THE WAY WE ARE TODAY

…Zambia would still be colonized – Gabriel Elias Banda

Lusaka, Monday, October 9, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

Socialist Party (SP) National Youth Secretary Gabriel Elias Banda has wondered if the country would have been liberated if the first Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda and other freedom fighters were the way Zambians of today are.

Mr Banda said this over the conduct of the police service after SP notified the police that they would hold a rally in Kitwe.

The rally was requested for by residents in the mining town who are wallowing in poverty under the leadership of the President Hakainde Hichilema and they are yearning for a message of hope from the SP president.

The residents appressed their concerns and disclosed that they were fed up with the lies from the incumbent administration.

And Mr Banda asked President Hichilema why he hasn’t repealed the Public Order Act as he promised prior to the 2021 elections.

“Zambia will be celebrating 59 years of independence on the 24th of October. President Hakainde Hichilema, when you were in opposition you promised Zambians that immediately you win you will repeal the Public Order Act. Have you fulfilled the promise?” he said.

“Youths voted because they believed that the Public Order Act was being used by colonial masters to abuse citizens. President Hakainde Hichilema said he was going to repeal the Act, today he is still using it. Lies. SP wrote to the police notifying them of the intentions to hold a rally. We wanted to speak about the problems people are facing on the Copperbelt. People on the Copperbelt are hit hard with high cost of living because the mines are closed.”

The young vibrant leader slammed UPND for abusing the application of the Public Order Act.

“This is an unfair application of the Public Order Act. The world is watching. The entire country is watching what is happening. If Kaunda and Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe were the way we are today, would they have liberated the country?” he said.

He also accused President Hichilema of not caring about the welfare of the poor Zambians.

“President Hakainde Hichilema said when he was in opposition that he wouldn’t bring Vedanta back because he was not paying contractors… today he has brought him back. He doesn’t feel the suffering of the youths, women, the sufferings of our parents on the Copperbelt,” he said.

“They don’t want us to speak to the people on the Copperbelt. They told us they didn’t have enough officers to police the rally, how many officers did they send on the day the rally was supposed to take place? Wasn’t it more than 200…where did the police come from?”

Hotels, Lodges and Operators in National Parks will NOT pay Local authorities property rates, levies fees and other charges-Attorney General

Hotels, Lodges and Operators in National Parks will NOT pay Local authorities property rates, levies fees and other charges-Attorney General

A LEGAL ANALYSIS BY ATTORNEY GENERAL’S CHAMBERS

National Park, South Luangwa National Park and Kafue National Park respectively are required by law to pay property rates.

The Local Authorities in the respective areas have requested the Concessionaires to pay property rates because the National Parks are within their jurisdiction.

The Concessionaires are of the view that the levies and fees imposed by the Local Authorities in respect of the same facilities for which the client Ministry imposes levies and fees amounts to a double charge in respect of the same facilities.

The Concessionaires have therefore threatened to stop payment of the various levies and fees provided in the Agreements and prescribed under the Regulations.

The crucial question that ultimately needs to be addressed is whether National Parks and Game Management Areas are rateable areas for purposes of charging property rates and whether levies may be charged on them by the Local Authorities.

LEGAL ANALYSIS

All the laws and establishments in Zambia derive their existence from the Constitution of Zambia Chgpter I of Laws of Zambia as amended by Act No. 2 of 2016. To that extent, Article 1 (1) of the Constitution states in no uncertain terms that:

1. (0) This Constitution is the supreme law of the Republic of Zambia and any other written law, cUstomary law and customary practice that is inconsistent with its provisions is void to the extent of the inconsistency.
(2) An act or omission that contravenes this Constitution is illegal.
(3) This Constitution shall bind all persons in Zambia, State organs and State institutions.

It is surmised that the entire Government is but the one body with its respective functions allocated in accordance with the Constitution and the Statutory Functions Act Cap. 4 of the laws of Zambia as read with Gazette No. No. 123 of 2021.

The government functions can only apply the concurrent functions where the Constitution assigns sUch functions.

In the case at hand, the issue of colecting levies by the local authorities in the National Parks and Game Management Areas goes against Constitution given that the operations in the National Parks and Game Management Areas is an exclusive function of the Ministry of Tourism.

This is notwithstanding that these fall under territories within the jurisdiction of the Local Authorities as envisaged by the Local Government Act but be that as it may, the Councils do not have jurisdiction over such areas and may not impose such levies or fees on the National Parks.

I WAS TAKEN TO PRISON WITHOUT WARRANT OF DETENTION

… You can’t go to Chimbokaila without appearing before the court of law, cries Gabriel Elias Banda

Lusaka, Tuesday, October 10, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

Socialist Party (SP) National Youth Secretary Gabriel Elias Banda has cried over the inhuman treatment the police subjected him to.

The vibrant leader has revealed that he was taken to Chimbokaila prison without a warrant of detention.

This is in a case where he stands charged with inciting violence.

Sharing his experience when he addressed the media at the party secretariat in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Banda said he received a callout from Chelstone Police Station on Wednesday, about two weeks ago.

He said he was asked to avail himself for questioning the following day at the Police Station in question.

“The following day, I went to Chelstone, of course with the leadership of the party, the lawyers of course as well as other members of the public. We went for interviews, we had successful interviews,” he said.

“But after the interviews I was detained, arrested and charged with two counts. The first I was charged with criminal trespass, then second, I was charged with proposing violence. Criminal trespass ku UNZA. I heard that there was a riot at UNZA, so I was charged with criminal trespass at UNZA, then for proposing violence. 59 years of independence in the history of Zambia, UNZASU was formed in 1968, that is when we had the first UNZASU.”

Almost breaking down as he recalled the illegalities perpetrated against him during the time he was in police detention, Mr Banda said “I am the first UNZASU president in the history of this country to be charged with criminal trespass. Where are we going? Where is the country going?”

“I was detained at Chelstone. They told me to take my shoes off, I took them off. I went with a suit, a blue one, I sat. when I got into the cells I was given respect. They were saying this is the leader of the nation.”

He called for the need for Zambians to respect each other regardless on one’s social standing in society.

“We only have one Zambia. Whether you are Socialist, whether UPND, whether PF, whether Zambia Must Prosper, we are all Zambians. We ought to respect one another. We are all leaders of the country. At 19:20, C5 came to pick me up. That is how they picked me, I didn’t know where we were going. My lawyers were not informed of my being picked up, naine nemwana pano, ndimwaiche sana pano mpelele,” he lamented.

“They (C5) were firing gunshots all the way… we started off at 19:25 at Chelstone, we reached at 19:56… I was taken to taken to KANAKANTAPA. My lawyers asked for police bond… I qualified for police bond. I was kept at Kanankatapa without police bond for SIX days. My lawyers applied for habeas corpus. The night when the following day I was supposed to be having habeas corpus, after coming back from KANAKANTAPA, I went back to Chestone.”

He further narrated that from Chelstone Police Station, he was in the afternoon taken to Chimbokaila.

“You can’t take someone to prison without a warrant of detention from a point of law. That is rule of law. Rule of law is ruling by law, not what you are thinking. You can’t go to Chimbokaila without appearing before the court of law. When I went there, even the people who attended to me were shocked. We thank the Courts of Law that I was granted bail,” he said.

MARK SIMUUWE ON MEALIE MEAL PRICE AND THE UPND NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT STRATEGY

By Mark Simuuwe

People have been texting me in the inbox on what the solution is by the UPND Dawn Government to mealie meal prices and my response is :

This is an inherited problem which cannot be instantly addressed because the only key players the UPND found are the private sector.

In addressing the problem, the UPND has decided not to let the private sector players alone but to reintroduce activities in farm blocks . As a step of good faith , K1million was released last year to audit the farm block with focus on government allowing ZNS to be a key participant.

In addition , government decided to continue zero-rating all agricultural equipments and accessories to stimulate growth in the sector .

As a strategic framework, government also decided to purchase 10 milling plants so as to easily address mealie meal prices by selling at cost reflective prices and also meet the growing demand in the region which contributed to skyrocketing prices of mealie meal .

For UPND , export of maize which has been seen as a threat on our people ,should be an old perspective , and the UPND is turning this threat into an opportunity for more production to meet the demand .

Contrary to the private sector where profit maximization is centered on paying workers , , transport cost and cost of production, ZNS will produce Meal meal at affordable price without chocking on how they will pay workers and cost of electricity because the workers are civil servants.

With FRA subsidizing maize in times of crisis , ZNS millers will not manipulate its own government because it is part of government.

This increase in supply will force prices to go down because government will not need stressful negotiations with millers but to play in the market economy using ZNS .

Further , government has decided to find an equity partner for a local investor to set up a fertilizer manufacturing plant at a cost of $138million , which when at full capacity shall produce 300,000 metric tons of Urea and 700,000 tons of D-compound . This will also cut down on the cost of transporting fertilizer from the Asian countries thereby having direct effect on the cost of producing maize .

Lastly , government has deliberately come up with cost reflective maize floor price to encourage businessmen who decided to stop engaging in farming due to losses to revert to farming as a business . Since maize growing has now been given business sense .This will encourage production and excess to even export to other markets thereby creating more jobs in the country .

Government has also signed various market access agreements with UAE, Rwanda , South Africa , DRC and China to secure a ready market for the growing agricultural sector.

This market access is very serious and not a talk show . So far , DRC has advanced our government some considerable United States dollars for mealie meal supply and not maize supply . With ZNS milling , government is well- coordinated to take up the market .

President HH also tapped into the Israel Agro-tech for improved agricultural sector. China has also been brought on board to help in the supply chain as participants by way of buying Zambian products , and producing pesticides.

This is a lasting solution to reducing price of mealie meal in Zambia . It should also be noted that maize crisis has been regional in Southern and East Africa and this forced Kenya to import GMOs . To stabilize this crisis will require extra effort by government and its citizens to participate more in growing maize .

Over 1,000 people have died in Israel – Israel Ministry of Defense

0

Israel’s army placed a full blockade on the Gaza Strip on Monday. This means they stopped any food, fuel, and supplies from entering the area, which is home to about 2. 3 At the same time, they launched many airstrikes on the Hamas-controlled territory as a response to the violent attack carried out by militants over the weekend.

More than two days after Hamas attacked unexpectedly from Gaza, the Israeli military reported that it had mostly taken control of the southern towns where they had been fighting against Hamas fighters. Israel’s highly praised military and intelligence operations were caught completely by surprise by Hamas, leading to intense fighting in its streets for the first time in many years.

Tanks and drones were used to protect the holes in the border fence to stop any new unauthorized entries. Many Israelis had to leave their homes in many towns near Gaza. The army called for 300,000 people who were not working for the army at that time and asked them to come and help in a very big and fast way.

Israel has started attacking Hamas more aggressively, which could cause a lot of damage in the crowded and poor Gaza Strip.

On Sunday, there were attacks that destroyed a big part of the town called Beit Hanoun in Gaza. The Israeli government claimed that Hamas was using this town as a base for their activities. On Monday, the Israeli army loudly told people in Rimal, a neighborhood in the middle of Gaza City, to leave. This is where The Associated Press and other foreign news companies have their offices. It was a warning that there would be a lot of strong attacks.

The big question is if they will attack the small area near the Mediterranean Sea, which could cause a lot of people to get hurt. The Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, promised to completely dismantle the military and leadership abilities of the militant group.

Israel attacked over 1,000 places in Gaza, while Palestinian fighters kept launching lots of rockets that made air raid sirens go off in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. A video on the internet showed that there was a line of smoke near a section of Ben Gurion International Airport. There is still no information about any people getting hurt or anything getting damaged from the most recent bombing.

Regular people have already suffered a lot and have had to give up a lot because of something. Nearly 700 individuals, including 73 soldiers, have died in Israel. This information comes from Israeli news sources and rescue services. This number is incredibly high when compared to previous conflicts. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that a total of 493 people died in Gaza. Among them were 78 children and 41 women. Many people have been hurt on both sides.

Groups of fighters from Palestine said they have kidnapped more than 130 individuals from Israel and taken them forcefully into Gaza. The fighting group of Hamas said on its messaging channel that four of their people died in airstrikes from Israel. That information could not be checked by someone else to make sure it is true.

The Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, has ordered a total blockade on Gaza. This means that they will stop the flow of electricity and prevent food and fuel from entering the area.

Gallant said that Israel was in a war with “human animals,” using harsh language that both sides often use when tensions get high.

Israel and Egypt have put restrictions on Gaza since Hamas took control in 2007. In the past few years, Israel has given a small amount of electricity and allowed the import of food, fuel, and some things people buy, but they have made it difficult for people to go in and out of the country.

The Israeli seal means that Gaza will mostly rely on the crossing into Egypt at Rafah for import and export, but this crossing has lower limits on how much can be transported compared to crossings into Israel.

An official from the Egyptian military, who wants to remain anonymous because he is not allowed to talk to the media, said that more than 2 tons of medical supplies from the Egyptian Red Crescent were sent to Gaza. They are also trying to arrange for food and other deliveries, but they have not yet decided if they will allow fuel to be brought in.

Israeli Rear Admiral Rear Admiral is a high-ranking military officer in the Israeli Navy. Daniel Hagari said that Israel was using bombs to destroy houses and buildings in different districts that they believe are being used by Hamas. Israel is planning to attack many places, he said. He said that a lot of Hamas fighters were trapped underneath the debris of buildings that were destroyed by Israel in the last two days. It was not possible to confirm what he said about the numbers or that he said the dead were Hamas.

In the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, an attack by Israeli planes on Monday morning killed 19 people. Among them were women and children, according to Dr. Talat Barhoum from the local Al-Najjar Hospital. Barhoum said a plane crashed into the house where the Abu Hilal family lived, and one of the people who died was Rafaat Abu Hilal, who was in charge of a local armed group. The strike broke nearby houses.

During the weekend, a house in Rafah was hit by an airstrike. Sadly, 19 members of the Abu Quta family, including women and children, were killed, along with five neighbors. Nasser Abu Quta, who survived the attack, stated that there were no militants present in their home.

The UN is an abbreviation for the United Nations. Over 123,000 people in Gaza have left their homes because they were told the Israeli military would soon attack. The United Nations (U. N) The United Nations agency that helps Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, stated that a school where more than 225 individuals were staying was struck directly. It didn’t say where the fire started.

After fighting for about 2 days, Hagari said that the military now has “control” over the communities near the border in southern Israel. There were a few small fights on Monday, but overall there is no fighting going on in the communities right now.

He said that 15 out of 24 communities near the border have been cleared out, and the remaining ones will be emptied soon.

Earlier, Hamas spokesperson Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua spoke to The Associated Press and said that the group’s fighters are still fighting outside of Gaza. He also mentioned that they have recently captured more Israelis, as recent as Monday morning.

He said the group wants to release all Palestinian prisoners that Israel is holding. In the past, Israel has agreed to unfair deals where it released many prisoners in exchange for just one captive or even the remains of soldiers.

Among the people who have been captured are soldiers and regular people, including women, children, and older adults. Most of them are from Israel, but there are also some people from other countries. Egypt’s government-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported on Monday that officials from Egypt are attempting to negotiate the release of Palestinian women who are currently imprisoned in Israel, in return for the release of Israeli women who have been captured by militants.

Mayyan Zin, who is a mother that is no longer married and has two children, found out that her two daughters were taken away when a family member sent her pictures from a Telegram group. The pictures showed her daughters sitting on mattresses while being held captive. Afterwards, she discovered videos on the internet of a frightening situation at her ex-husband’s house: Some armed men had entered the house and were talking to him while her two daughters, Dafna (15 years old) and Ella (8 years old), cried nearby. Another video showed the dad being brought into Gaza.

Please bring my daughters back home to our family. Everyone, Zin said.

The Hamas group took control of Gaza in 2007, after pushing out the Palestinian Authority. Since then, no one has opposed their rule, even during the blockade and four wars with Israel.

A large group of about 1,000 gunmen from Hamas broke through Israeli barriers early on Saturday. They spent several hours causing chaos by shooting and killing innocent people. They also kidnapped individuals in towns, along roads, and even at a music festival in the desert that was attended by thousands of people. According to the military, Palestinian fighters have fired approximately 4,400 rockets at Israel.

Hamas claimed that it carried out the attack because Palestinians are suffering due to Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, blockade of Gaza, discriminative policies in east Jerusalem, and tensions surrounding a disputed holy site in Jerusalem that is important to Muslims and Jews.

The Palestinians want to have their own country in the territories that Israel took control of in the 1967 war. However, there haven’t been successful peace talks for more than 10 years, and the current right-wing government in Israel is against the idea of a Palestinian state.

On Sunday, the United States (U. S) Sent a group of warships to the Eastern Mediterranean to support Israel, and promised to send more help from the military.

Chamisa’s CCC mulls full withdrawal of MPs

0

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was on Monday discussing a full withdrawal of MPs and Senators from parliament after 15 lawmakers were controversially recalled.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda wrote to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announcing the vacancies on the basis of a letter by Sengezo Tshabangu, who has styled himself as the CCC’s interim secretary general.

Tshabangu told Mudenda that the 15 – of whom 14 are from Bulawayo and the two Matabeleland provinces – had ceased to be members of the CCC and were therefore being recalled.

One of the recalled MPs Prince Dubeko Sibanda said: “On October 1, 2020, they recalled me for ceasing to be a member of the MDC-A, which I won under in 2018. We left it and formed CCC. I won by-elections on March 26, 2022, under CCC. I did so again on in the general elections on August 23, 2023. Today, they recalled us again. It’s time for a revolution.”

All the 15 representatives have gone to court seeking an order declaring that Tshabangu has no legal standing to recall them, and that they should remain in parliament. The party has described him as an “impostor.”

The affected MPs are Pashor Raphael Sibanda (Cowdray Park); Ereck Gono (Lobengula-Magwegwe); Nicola June Watson (Bulawayo South); Desmond Makaza (Mpopoma-Mzilikazi); Obert Manduna (Nketa); Sitabile Mlilo (Proportional Representation); Jasmine Toffa (Proportional Representation); Janet Dube (Proportional Representation); Evidence Zana (Youth Quota); Morgan Ncube (Beitbridge West); Nomathemba Sibanda (Proportional Representation); Velisiwe Nkomo (Proportional Representation); Prince Dubeko Sibanda (Binga North); Bright Moyo Vanya (Lupane East) and Febion Munyaradzi (Mabvuku-Tafara).

Separately, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa is ready to withdraw all his party’s elected representatives in protest at the latest developments, a CCC insider told ZimLive.

Calls for street protests will grow but Chamisa has shown some reluctance to lead marches, publicly stating that he does not want to “step on the skeletons of Zimbabweans to reach State House” – a show of concern over the violent response expected from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.

Chamisa had earlier written to Mudenda, who received Tshabangu’s letter on October 3, urging him to ignore the former MDC-T Matabeleland North chairman.

“As at present, none of the Members of Parliament who were elected under the CCC have been expelled from the party I lead or recalled from the National Assembly, or for that matter, from any elected position in the Senate or any local council,” Chamisa wrote.

Tshabangu has also written to local government minister Winston Chitando naming 17 councillors, 12 of them from Bulawayo, that he says have ceased to be members of the CCC. Two of the councillors are from Matabeleland South, one from Matabeleland North, one from Epworth in Harare and Masvingo’s first female mayor Shantel Chiwara.

The CCC has no formal membership and no leadership structure in place except for its leader and appointed spokespersons, a loophole which Tshabangu appears to have used to claim a powerful position for himself after submitting a purported CCC constitution to Mudenda. He previously used the same tactic with ZEC to cause the double nomination of CCC candidates in August’s polls.

If the courts rule in favour of Tshabangu in the fight, it opens the possibility that he can expel Chamisa from the party he founded in March 2022 and grab all funding due to the party under the Political Parties (Finances) Act. Zanu-PF, meanwhile, will be eyeing by-elections that could follow with a target of winning 10 seats which would give if a two thirds majority in parliament, allowing it to amend the constitution.

The recalls are “a festival of illegalities and a carnival of absurdities,” said political analyst Brian Kagoro.

Exiled former foreign affairs minister Walter Mzembi said “it will take more than elections” to bring change in Zimbabwe, adding that the CCC’s decision to go to court was a “kindergarten response” and a sign that the party was “failing to read the mood.”

“We will defend our right to vote, our freedom to choose, our constitution and our democracy with everything that we have got. It cannot and will not be business as usual,” CCC spokesman Promise Mkwananzi said in a statement.

“There comes a time where one has to draw a line in the sand, stand up and defend their dignity. Such a time has come. The people of Zimbabwe must and will take a stand. Otherwise there would be no point in voting only for the regime to remove elected officials.”

The recalls come after disputed general elections on August 23 when Mnangagwa claimed a slim majority. Regional and international election observers condemned the poll as a sham and Chamisa has been demanding fresh elections supervised by the United Nations.

CCC Rebel Fires 15 Chamisa MPs From Parliament

Sengezo Tshabangu, calling himself CCC secretary-general, has fired 15 MPs elected in August from both the party and parliament.

He also wrote to the local government minister, Winston Chitando, to recall 17 CCC councillors for a similar reason.

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa last week to the Speaker of Parliament urging him to ignore attempts to recall over a dozen lawmakers by a man claiming to represent the party.

The Speaker, Jacob Mudenda, has ruled on the matter and declared the 15 seats vacant and open for by-elections.

In a letter to Mudenda dated October 4, 2023, Chamisa referenced an earlier communication on September 11 listing his party’s 103 MPs and 27 senators. The letter said “any correspondence regarding any CCC Members of Parliament… is to be directed to this office” and “any communication or notification regarding any CCC Member of Parliament shall come from this office.”
The September 11 letter added: “For the avoidance of doubt, no other person is authorised to correspond or communicate with parliament concerning CCC members in parliament.”

In his latest letter after Tshabangu’s petition to Mudenda, Chamisa reminds the Speaker of his earlier communication and adds: “There have not been any changes to the communication protocols in our letter dated September 11, 2023.”

Chamisa maintains that Tshabangu is not a member of the party, adding that the party also has no secretary general or an acting secretary general. A police report had also been made against Tshabangu, he added.

“As at present, none of the Members of Parliament who were elected under the CCC have been expelled from the party I lead or recalled from the National Assembly, or for that matter, from any elected position in the Senate or any local council,” Chamisa wrote.
Tshabangu has been identified as the individual who was a signatory for nearly two dozen people who filed nomination papers as CCC candidates for the August 23 elections, and whose nominations were controversially accepted by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. Chamisa failed to overturn ZEC’s decision in court.

In some parliamentary constituencies and local authority races, CCC ended up with two or even three candidates on a single ballot. The double candidates largely did not affect results except in Epworth South where Taedzwa Honour Mbofana of Zanu polled 8,112 while the combined votes of the three candidates using the CCC party name – Blessed Kudakwashe Chatambudza, Didymus Bande and Solomon Baramasimbe – added up to 9,426.

Controversy … The Citizens Coalition for Change insists that Sengezo Tshabangu, seen here at a CCC rally, is not a member of the party
Tshabangu appears to be exploiting an apparent gap in the legal status of the CCC which has no leadership structure outside Chamisa and his appointed spokespersons. The party formed in March 2022 has not set a date for an elective congress.

The ruling Zanu PF party is keenly watching, some say even encouraging an internal rupture in the CCC hoping it will trigger by-elections which if it wins would secure it a two thirds majority in parliament, allowing the party to amend the constitution at will. Zanu PF is currently five seats shy of that target in the National Assembly.

Mudenda and Chitando are Zanu PF members and many in the CCC fear they could rule in favour of Tshabangu, which would ignite a major political firestorm. A ruling in favour of Tshabangu could have serious financial repercussions for the CCC too as he could claim all funding meant for the party under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.

Chamisa’s lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu insists Mudenda and Chitando have no choice but to reject the Tshabangu petitions out of hand.
“They cannot act on criminal letters,” Mpofu said. “The correct position was communicated to parliament in good time and has recently been affirmed. Not even the lowest of all lows can give oxygen to the human forest fire that Tshabangu is.”

speaker of Zim Parliament Jacob Mudenda Fires 15 Chamisa MPs From Parliament, Announces By-Election Posts

0

The speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, Monday wrote to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announcing the vacancies of 1onThe Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MPs and Senators from parliament on the basis of a letter by Sengezo Tshabangu, who has styled himself as the CCC’s interim secretary general.

Tshabangu told Mudenda that the 15 – of whom 14 are from Bulawayo and the two Matabeleland provinces – had ceased to be members of the CCC and were, therefore being recalled.

Zanu PF, meanwhile, will be eyeing by-elections that could follow with a target of winning 10 seats which would give if a two thirds majority in parliament, allowing it to amend the constitution.

Ex-U.S. President Kennedy’s nephew declares for president under Independent Party

0

Robert F. Kennedy Jr, son of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and nephew to former US President John F. Kennedy, is posing a challenge to the Trump and Biden 2024 presidential campaign.

He made this announcement on Monday, October 9 of his interest to run for president as a third-party candidate next year.

Jr. Kennedy would be going against generations of tradition in the Kennedy political dynasty’s allegiance to the Democratic party.

Kennedy Jr. informed Philadelphia supporters on Monday he would let go his bid for the Democratic nomination.

And would rather run as an independent.

Kennedy Jr. has criticized both the Republican and Democratic parties, after his announcement of campaign in April.

He claimed their leaders are corrupt and accused the Democratic National Committee of “rigging” the primary election.

Jr. said the committee had declined to host debates and create changes to the election calendar.

Historically, for a third-party candidate, Kennedy’s polling figures are quite high.

He could even dismiss votes from nominees of both parties.

His statement on Monday was, “I’m here to join you in making a new Declaration of Independence for our nation.”

He listed out a host of external powers which he wanted to detach from politics.

These external powers included, “big ag, big tech, military contractors and their lobbyists . . . the mercenary media” and “the two political parties.”

According to recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, 14% of voters revealed their interest to support Kennedy Jr. in a hypothetical general election.

This general election aims at matching up Kennedy’s with former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.

The Poll revealed that Biden had support of 31% of voters and Trump achieved 35%.

Some surveys displayed that Kennedy Jr.’s net auspicious rating is higher among Republicans than Democrats.

Jr.’s third-party bid could impede Biden more, because both Trump and Biden would have received 35% of support each, if Jr. was not on the ballot.

Kennedy has advocated the groundless claim that the CIA was involved in the assassination of his uncle, John F. Kennedy.

How African countries have split over Israel-Gaza conflict

0

African leaders called on warring parties in the Israel-Gaza conflict to halt deadly confrontations that erupted on 7 October when the Palestinian Hamas militant group launched a surprise assault.

The reaction has not been entirely uniform with Zambia, Kenya and Ghana more explicitly condemning Hamas and backing Israel, and Sudan, Djibouti and South Africa being clear about their support for the Palestinians.

Despite Israel growing its diplomatic presence on the continent in the last decade and plans by several African countries to move their embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Israel has not fully consolidated its support in Africa in this latest conflict.

The African Union highlighted in statements in French and English that the confrontations were underpinned by the “denial of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, particularly that of an independent and sovereign state”.

“The chairperson urgently appeals to both parties to put an end to military hostilities and to return, without conditions, to the negotiating table to implement the principle of two States living side by side, to safeguard the interests of the Palestinian people and the Israeli people,” AU Commission chairperson Moussa Faki added.

Israel has previously sought to take part in AU meetings as an observer, sparking some backlash.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni also called for warring parties to return to the “two states solution” in a statement on 7 October, where he said he regretted the violence.

Mr Museveni hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2016 and 2020 in efforts to improve relations between the two countries. The Ugandan leader also brokered the normalisation of relations between Israel and Sudan in 2020.

However, Sudan’s foreign ministry backed the Palestinians in the wake of renewed confrontations.

“Sudan is following with concern the dangerous developments currently taking place in occupied Palestine. Sudan renews its support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to have their independent state. It calls for adherence to international resolutions and the protection of innocent civilians,” a statement published on the Facebook page of state news agency Suna said.

South Africa called for an “immediate ceasefire”.

“The region is in desperate need of a credible peace process that delivers on the calls of a plethora of previous UN resolutions for a two-state solution and a just and comprehensive peace between Israel and Palestine,” the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) said on its official Facebook page on 7 October.

Meanwhile, Nigeria warned that “the cycle of violence and retaliation that the current escalation has assumed only serves to perpetuate an unending cycle of pain and suffering for the civilian population, that bear the brunt of every conflict”.

Kenya’s President William Ruto urged the warring parties to de-escalate as “casualties continue to rise”.

“Kenya strongly maintains that there exists no justification whatsoever for terrorism, which constitutes a serious threat to international peace and security. All acts of terrorism and violent extremism are abhorrent, criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of the perpetrator, or their motivations,” he said on X.

Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Stanley Kakubo backed Israel in a statement condemning the Hamas attacks.

“We strongly condemn the recent attacks on Israel, which have regrettably resulted in the loss of lives. We unequivocally denounce all acts of aggression and violence, and continue to emphasise the necessity of pursuing diplomatic means to resolving international conflicts,” he said on X.

I Dropped The Alebwelelapo Agenda Because I Realized That ECL Can’t Win Against Hichilema- Chilufya Tayali

EEP President Chilufya Tayali

I DROPPED THE ALEBWELELAPO AGENDA BECAUSE I REALISED THAT ECL CAN’T WIN AGAINST HICHILEMA

The goal of any politician is to serve people by being in Govt. You can get into Govt by either winning an election or supporting someone to win and election then appoint you.

In my case, I am still struggling with finances to mobilize my party and win an election, therefore I support others so that, in turn they can support me in whichever way to advance my political career.

I have since helped a number of politicians to win, including ECL in 2015 and 2016, but he didn’t consider me.

In 2021 I supported HH and tried to work with UPND, but they messed me up when I was trying to help them to be a voice for the men and women in uniform after they delayed to pay their salaries for 3 months.

UPND arrested me and charged me with Mutiny, when my intentions were to help them. Honestly I was very upset, especially that I was even tryingto communicate with them.

I felt like, the UPND were not any different from ECL, who I campaigned against when he treated me like a criminal, only to be saved by Mutembo Nchito (I will forever appreciate).

So, I went to ECL and asked him to come back so that we can remove HH and then ECL, since he had learned a lesson after being kicked out by people – that’s the birth of #Alebwelelapo.

After championing the agenda for over a year, I got in so much trouble with the UPND, facing 6 cases and going to court almost twice a week.

Whilst I was doing all that, I got next to nothing material support from ECL to help either with lawyers or my own personal upkeep.

Apart from that, ECL was moribund on political strategies or actions while HH has been cementing himself with power such that it will take a miracle for HH to lose power in 2026, especially to ECL.

That’s how I realised that, I was wasting my time with ALEBWELELAPO agenda, hence changing my political game. I have not betrayed ECL, he can’t just have it and I am helping him to just let go.

ECL have since tried to up his game, but he can’t go anywhere in spite all the changes being made in PF. They just don’t have it, they can’t win. I will explain more at 20:00hrs on Wednesday.

As for me, I would rather take a few steps backwards, do something for myself to sort out my mess (like killing the monster I created, #ALEBWELELAPO) so that I open my chances for the future.

ISRAELI AMBASSADOR TO ZAMBIA CONDEMNS MASS KI!!ING OF ISRAELIS BY HAMAS

Lusaka, Monday (October 9, 2023)

Ambassador of Israel to Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, Ofra Farhi, has condemned the ki!!ing of over 300 Israelis following an attack in Gaza by Hamas.

The death toll has since continued to rise in the bombardment.

“It is hard to find the words on day like this. Since 6:30 AM on Saturday, Israel is under an att@ck,” she said.

Ms Farhi said more than 3500 missiles and rockets were f!red deliberately on the civilian population aiming to ki!!, adding that the attack sent 4 million Israelis to their shelters and safe rooms.

“In the south ,barbaric att@cks were carried out by Hamas t£rrorists in several Israelis communities. These are t£rrorists who went from one house to another looking for people they can sl@ught£r or kidnap, including children and elderly,” she said.

The Diplomat said little children and helpless elderly people were murd£r£d in their homes.

“It is hard to even imagine this cowardly @trocity,” she said.

Ms Farhi said some Israeli citizens and soldiers are still being held host@ge while others were taken to Gaza.

“These vile t£rrorises are people who take pride in their cruelty, who take pictures of themselves tortur!ng people. These are the t£rrorists Israel has to deal with. We are mourning more than 300 people who were brutally murd£r£d, hoping to a quick recovery of more than 1800 wounded Israelis, and the release of dozens of hostages. We continue to pray for the safety of all those who are still missing,” she said.

The Israeli Ambassador said the Terror organization Hamas, with the support of Iran, initiated the heinous and barbaric @ttack warning that they will be held accountable.

“Despite all, we are strong and resilient and we will do what is needed to protect our people. We have had many w@rs and we will win this one too,” she said.

Ms Farhi further thanked all who expressed their support and solidarity with Israel.

ZAMBIA TO EXPERIENCE DROUGHT IN THE 2023 – 2024 RAINY SEASON – ZMD

ZAMBIA TO EXPERIENCE DROUGHT IN THE 2023 – 2024 RAINY SEASON – ZMD

By Fox Reporter
THE Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) says the country is likely to experience reduced rainfall in the 2023/2024 rainy season.

The department has attributed the anticipated reduced rainfall acrivities to the El Nino, which will influence the 2023/2024 rainy season.

This is contained in the 2023/2024 rainfall forest report issued by Zambia Meteorological Department Director Edson Nkonde and made available to The Fox.

Nkonde revealed that most parts of the country will receive normal to below normal rainfall.

He highlighted that the 2023/2024 rainfall season will be characterized with prolonged dry spells and episodes of heavy rainfall.

“Normal to Below Normal rainfall over most parts of Zambia; and Periods of prolonged dry spells and episodes of heavy rainfall events,” he said.

Nkonde indicated that the rainfall pattern will largely be influenced by the El Nino climate phenomenon which will result in reduced rainfall activities.

“The El Niño climate phenomenon, characterized by above-average Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) in the Pacific Ocean, is expected to persist and influence Zambia’s rainfall pattern during the 2023/2024 season. This condition typically results in reduced rainfall in Zambia,” Nkonde said.

Nkonde further revealed that the 2023/2024 rainy season will be characterized with early rains expected to start in October this year.

He cited North Western, Western and parts of Northern and Luapula Provinces as some of the regions that will receive early rains in October.

Nkonde has however, disclosed that most parts of the country will start to receive rains in the month of November except for the Southern regions where rains are expected to start by the end of December.

Nkonde hinted that most parts of the country will experience normal to above normal rainfall in the months of January, February, and March 2024.

I Will Technically Knock Edgar lungu – Politics Teyabana- Chilufya Tayali

I WILL TECHNICALLY KNOCK ECL – POLITICS TEYABANA

As soon as I arrive I will be signing affidavits on this, for us to file in court. I also have another plan which I will execute, either as a consequence of the outcome of this litigation or parallel to this one.

I have told you, “POLITICS TEYABANA IYOO”, I promise you a good run, I will technically knock out ECL because if I don’t, he could just pull a surprise and win just like HH did.

However, remembering how I suffered when ECL was in power, I can’t risk it. I will not do anything callous like ECL did to jail me for days, but just politics within the law.

This is not to say, President Hichilema has been kind with me, in fact he has bruised me more than ECL, however, I think we can find a middle ground for us to work together for the good of the Country.

As it stands, I would rather have HH run for 10 years than to bring back ECL.

I know, small boys and girls will be jumping here that, I am nothing and I can’t knock out ECL, just wait, you said the same thing on Kambwili. I am very dangerous when I have the evidence, watch me.

What will I get out of this

Small minds always think that, my focus is money, but they are forgetting that I am doing politics and as I do these things, I grow politically and I help the Country in ways that they may not understand.

Anyway, I repeat “Politics Teyabana iyoo” one day you will testify that, there was once an igneous and ingenious politician who boggled our minds at every turn.

I love my Country and what I do, is for the good of this Country although at times you may not realise it. That’s why I call myself:

I’m Ready To Expose The Gays At State House And The Upnd Dealings With Gay Groups- Fred M’membe

I’M READY TO EXPOSE THE GAYS AT STATE HOUSE AND THE UPND DEALINGS WITH GAY GROUPS

HICHILEMA, STATE HOUSE AND DEFENDERS OF GAY RIGHTS

We would like to counsel Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s newly installed mouthpiece, Mr Cornelius Mweetwa that State House is deeply anchored with gays and defenders, protectors and promoters of gay rights.

We say this as a reminder to Mr Mweetwa and his desperate UPND league, who think they can use us to spit malice and hate in order to talk their way out of the present social, political and economic mess they find themselves in. We know they are desperate and worried about their loss of popularity countrywide but this should not put them on a senseless path of malice and hate towards political competitors like ourselves.

We also know that they’re lost and in disarray because quite frankly, they don’t have solutions to the numerous problems they are currently faced with. Their lies, deception and crookedness have boomeranged and their credibility and acceptability in the eyes of the general populace is at its lowest.

Mr Hichilema and his corrupt puppet regime have been weighed against their own words and actions, and they have been exposed as a bunch of pretentious, dangerous and greedy coward politicians. And they will not solve anything by being malicious, evil and hateful to anyone, especially if those they’re trying to paint black are not anywhere near what they’re alleging them to be. Their sadistic, evil and malicious intentions will not work.

We therefore, find it unacceptable and unwise for Mr Hichilema through his new spokesperson to make reckless and silly insinuations about the issue of LGBTQI and gay rights.

We have stated before and we shall state again that at no time have I as an individual or we collectively as the Socialist Party Zambia supported LGBTQI, gay practices.

And that remains our individual and collective position. That is the position of the great majority of our people, our religious teachings, our cultural practices and of our national laws. The desperation by Mr Hichilema and his panicking minions like Mr Mweetwa to paint me, us black on these issues and sometimes pushing contrary words in our mouths is malicious, mischievous and won’t do.

If Mr Mweetwa thinks he can launch himself in his new designation by replicating discredited scripts from Mr Hichilema’s rogue guerrilla channels – Zambian Watchdog and Koswe – which are managed by the State House media team to spread hate speech and malice then we feel very sorry for him because he will turn out to be ignorant, dishonest and worse than we anticipated.

Of course, we know he is not the finest of brains to execute his new assignment as Mr Hichilema’s lead attack dog but we also didn’t think he will be this worse off and dull than his predecessor.

Nonetheless, if Mr Mweetwa and the UPND really want to know who is dealing with defenders, protectors and promoters of gay rights, they should start with Mr Hichilema’s State House.

This regime and State House in particular’s association with gays and defenders, protectors and promoters of gay rights are not a secret. No wonder, known gay rights ambassadors like Mr Tony Blair – the former British Prime Minister, are frequenting Zambia today like it’s their backyard.

On September 29, 2021, Mr Hichilema hosted Mr Blair at State House. Mr Hichilema held talks with Mr Blair on the possible collaboration between Zambia and the Tony Blair Institute for global change.

Mr Hichilema said the institute is doing commendable work and hopes it can assist Zambia.

Mr Blair said his institute stands ready to help the new dawn administration.

Mr Blair has been recognised as one of the top gay icons of the past three decades, along with figures such as Boy George, Sir Ian McKellen and Barbra Streisand. In fact, Gay Times said Blair’s status as an ambassador of gay rights was undeniable.

Mr Blair, as British prime minister, introduced laws recognising trans people, civil partnerships, banned employers from sacking employees because of who they love and made homophobia a hate crime. And just last week, Mr Blair was back in Zambia, hosted and celebrated by Mr Hichilema and his team.

Mr Joe Biden, on May 4, 2012 told NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ anchor David Gregory: ‘I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties. Who do you love? And will you be loyal to the person you love? And that’s what people are finding out is what all marriages, at their root, are about, whether they’re marriages of lesbians or gay men or heterosexuals.’

This is the President of United States today, the current occupant of the White House. And early in his presidency Mr Hichilema was a guest at the White House – something they were very proud of, were boasting about!

On June 23, 2023, Mr Hichilema visited European Union Parliament in Brussels and addressed it. Gay rights in the European Union are protected under the European Union’s (EU) treaties and law. Same-sex sexual activity is legal in all EU states and discrimination in employment has been banned since 2000.

The Treaty on European Union, in its last version as updated by the Treaty of Lisbon in 2007 and in force as of 2009, makes the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union legally binding for the member state of the European Union and the European Union itself. In turn, Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union includes an anti-discrimination provision that states that ‘any discrimination based on any ground such as […] sexual orientation shall be prohibited.’

Furthermore, the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union provides in Articles 10 that the European Union has a positive duty to combat discrimination (among other things) on the grounds of sexual orientation and provides in Article 19 ways for the Council and the European Parliament to actively propose pass legislation to do so. These provisions were enacted by the Treaty of Amsterdam in 1999.

In June 2010, the Council of the European Union adopted a non-binding toolkit to promote LGBT people’s human rights. In June 2013, the Council upgraded it to binding LGBTI Guidelines instructing EU diplomats around the world to defend the human rights of LGBTI people.

And for the first time in this country and under Mr Hichilema’s presidency, in May 2022, we saw some EU embassies flying gay pride flags in support and commitment to gay rights on Zambian soil.

Then also the UPND is a member of the African Liberal Network (ALN), which also is a member of the Liberal International (LI). And LI Human Rights Committee Bulletin 4th Edition – LGBTI Rights states:

“In the year since Liberal International launched its Human Rights Bulletin, the final edition of the publication for 2015 – which has attracted contributions from senior ministers, UN diplomats, and prominent activists – has been released, with a focus in this edition on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) rights.

Contributors from Africa, Asia, and Latin America have written and been interviewed about their experiences in fighting for a cause at the heart of all liberals – equality. In this fourth edition of the Bulletin, politicians, activists, and advisors offered insights and practical advice for overcoming the challenges of standing up for minority groups in countries and across continents.

Writing about the landmark human rights manifesto for Africa, adopted in 2014 by member parties of LI cooperating organisation, Africa Liberal Network (ALN), ALN vice-president Rosemary Machua, of the Kenyan liberals, ODM (LI member), emphasised the importance of having a ‘human rights framework for Africa, by Africans’. The fact that sexual orientation is included in the Declaration is a tremendous achievement for African liberals. It firmly entrenches our view that LGBTI rights are important, recognized, and above all that they are human rights, added Mrs. Machua.

These are views from the organisations to which the UPND belongs.

Further, before going on a rampage spilling senseless malice and hate towards innocent citizens, let Mr Mweetwa ask himself why the Church and other critical voices rose in unison just a few weeks ago to reject the appointment of Mr Jean Mafart, an openly gay man whose male husband is a convicted drug trafficker, as French Ambassador accredited to Zambia.

For the first time in history, a foreign government decided to send an individual to Zambia whose own lifestyle was against our laws, customs and culture. The reason why all this is happening now is simple, Mr Hichilema’s friends and corroborators in Europe and the US know that this regime is receptive and supportive of gay rights and activities.

So before pointing an accusing finger at innocent citizens, Mr Mweetwa must know that this regime is regarded to be not sincere enough to protect our Christian values and traditions as a country. The Zambian people are aware of the UPND’s hidden agenda, identity and ideological beliefs. And they will not look any better or become believable by scandalizing us.

Let Mr Hichilema and Mr Mweetwa address his government’s proven links with LGBTQI networks and people like Mr Blair and Mr Biden before being malicious and dishonest in their failed attempts to defend this corrupt, divisive and untrustworthy government.

We reiterate that if Mr Mweetwa wants to know who is dealing with gays and defenders, protectors and promoters of gay rights, State House will be a good starting point because they’re there and working with them.

This is the problem with malice, it boomerangs. And whoever digs a pit of inequity, will definitely fall in it.

And when it comes to allegations of being involved in gay activities, at least two names constantly come up from State House. Again, we emphasize that if the UPND really want to know who is involved with gay activities and issues in this country they should start with themselves as a party and State House.

On that basis, we throw back the challenge to Mr Mweetwa that if there is a party that needs to come out clean over its dealings with gays and defenders, protectors and promotors of gay rights, it’s the UPND and State House, not us.

In fact, if they are denying this fact, I offer myself for a public debate on national television with Mr Hichilema and Mr Mweetwa combined together. Let them come and I will expose their links and dark dealings on gay issues.

So that we can put to rest this disgraceful propaganda emanating from a discredited and highly corrupt regime.

I will be waiting for their favourable response so that we take this discourse to its highest and final level and rest it there.

I DON’T THINK ZAMBIANS ARE COMFORTABLE WITH EATING PROMISES

… We are seeing the fact that maybe our colleagues were never ready to rule – Lusaka Lawyer

Lusaka, Monday, October 9, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

Amid the historic high cost of living that Zambians are grappling with under the New Dawn Administration, Patriotic Front (PF) Member Celestine Mambula Mukandila says “we are only hopeful that only God can save us in this case.”

Despite the “heaven on earth” kind of promises that President Hakainde Hichilema fed Zambians prior to the 2021 elections, fixing the economy, an “anthem” that saw him elected into power has remained a wishful dream to the masses.

Prices of essential commodities have continued skyrocketing, the scarcity of money in circulation has hit even those singing praise for the President and hunger has become an order of the day.

And featuring on Millenium TV’s “State of the Nation” last night, Mr Mukandila, a Lusaka Lawyer lamented that “we are living in times when the nation is crying, Zambian people are crying, our families are crying because of the escalating cost of living. We have the staple food which is mealie meal of course escalating at a skyrocketing price, the escalation is very constant in the upward direction.”

He complained that it is extremely unfortunate that government has failed to maintain the pricing structure of the mealie meal prices.

“The Zambian people right now, I don’t think they are comfortable with eating promises. We can’t keep promising what we cannot achieve, it is very unfortunate. It has been a lot of promises and nothing, all talk and nothing is happening,” he said.

Commenting on the 2024 budget which the majority well-meaning Zambians have frowned upon, the PF member said most of the budgets that UPND government has presented contain words like unlocking rigidities, unlocking potential and unlocking investment.

“We have had a lot of unlockings… mere talks and nothing has been happening. Right now, the same budget that was read has indicated that there has been a downward growth of the economy of about 4.2%, that is unfortunate. This is the third budget that the UPND is reading. And we are almost clocking five years. What are they ever going to achieve?” he asked.

“We are seeing the fact that maybe our colleagues were never ready to rule. Maybe they were ready to continue in opposition because this is clear indication that we may not be going anywhere… our colleagues never had a plan for the country, they did not know how government operates.”

He slammed UPND over numerous alleged illegalities in the procurement process.

“That is why right now we have seen a lot of illegal procurement procedures, a lot of breaches in the procurement procedures. Fertilizer tenders being procured in a very illegal manner where we had single sourcing being the order of the day, where we had a leader, who is supposed to be respected as the President of the Republic of Zambia complaining that the procedures and processes should never be considered as much as the result should be,” he said.

Lusaka, Monday 9th October, 2023

The Drug Enforcement Commission, through its Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit, has arrested and charged a Chinese national for money laundering offences involving over 14.9 million United States dollars and over 3 million Zambian Kwacha.

DEC Public Relations Officer Hussein Khan has identified the suspect as Longrong Chen, male aged 29, a manager and signatory to the business accounts for Crowline Trading Limited domiciled at a known bank.

“Particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but between 1st November 2022 and 29th September 2023, the suspect jointly and whilst working with other persons unknown received a sum of USD 248,993.00 in the company dollar account through an isolated cyber fraud. Further, in the same period under review, the business accounts for the named company received about USD 14,704,274.44 and ZMW 3,031,775.00 through large deposits and transfers on both accounts, which monies are suspected to be proceeds of crime,” he said.

“Additionally, the said amounts were transferred to some offshore accounts purporting to show that they were ordering goods when, in fact, they were not.
The suspect has since been charged with being in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and money laundering.”

Meanwhile, the commission arrested Alice Phiri, female, aged 24 and Brian Zulu, male, aged 40, in a special operation conducted in Lusaka’s Chawama township for being in possession of counterfeit notes amounting to over USD170, 000.00.

“All suspects are expected to appear in court soon. We therefore wish to urge all members of the public to safeguard their identity documents, such as National Registration Cards, owing to the increased levels of fraud in the country. Further, all players in the financial space are encouraged to hasten their due diligence protocols to protect their clients.”

FIRST ZAMBIAN VICE PRESIDENT KAMANGA REMEMBERED

The wife of Zambia’s First Vice President Edna Kamanga, has urged the country to emulate what the founding fathers of the nation did in order to spur a prosperous nation.

Ms Kamanga highlighted that love was one of the pillars that held their bonds together in order to achieve the freedom and independence that the country is enjoying today.

Ms Kamanga said this during a tree planting exercise done to commemorate 27th memorial of the late First Vice President Reuben Kamanga at the Reuben Chitandika Kamanga Toll Plaza in Katete District.

“We want you the upcoming generations to emulate what we did; there was love, peace and stability even when we quarreled in cabinet it remained there, you didn’t know what was discussed and this is how we want you to portray Zambia on the international level because where ever you go in the world, they will ask you where are you from? I am from Zambia oh! Zambia is a peace loving country; you see, that’s how we are known, so keep that burner burning, we are proud of that,” she said.

Meanwhile, Katete District Council Chairperson Fanuel Chama appreciated the family’s initiative to beautify the toll plaza in honor of their father.

Mr Chama also urged the different government departments in the district to emulate the workmanship, patriotism, and dedication to duty and to the country, that the Late First Vice President Reuben Kamanga demonstrated in his tour of duty.

“And to us who are working in different departments let us put the interest of the people first or the interest of the government first as we are doing our duties. Most of the people when we are working in these government departments or political offices, we put our self-desire first at the end of the day when you have been fired, what legacy are you leaving, what story are you leaving after serving in that office,” he asked.

Mr Chama hence advised the public to always think of what legacy they will leave as they serve in different capacities of service.

“So, we need to leave a good story. The old man is not there but the story I have just narrated to you shows that the man really worked for the people, he loved the people and he loved this nation,” he said.

And Reuben Chitandika Kamanga Toll Plaza Senior Toll Collector Charity Imasiku appreciated the family for the timely gesture of planting trees around the plaza.

“Trees and plants symbolize life, and this memorable event is coming to bring new life at our station, so we are very happy as a team to be part of this moment, to be part of this legacy that is being left at Reuben Chitandika Kamanga,” she said.

The First Vice President Reuben Kamanga, was one the first political prisoners during the struggle for independence.

Family in pain as Congo star left unburied for months

0

The family of famous guitarist Lokassa ya Mbongo from Congo is feeling very sad and embarrassed. They are still waiting for the government to help them with money to bury him, even though he passed away almost seven months ago.

Lokassa’s dead body is currently in a morgue in the capital city of Democratic Republic Congo, called Kinshasa. He was brought back from the US so that he could be buried in his home country, as it was his wish.

His son, André Marie Lokassa, told the BBC that the government said they would assist in arranging a funeral that would be respectful of the music star’s reputation, but they have not followed through on that promise.

A charity in the area that helps artists said that the delay happened because there were arguments and disagreements within the family.

Magloire Paluku, who works for the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, refused to answer questions when contacted by the BBC. He said to ask the family instead.

MrLokassa told the BBC that the family asked the government for $75,000 (£61,000) to pay for the funeral, but the government hasn’t said yes or no yet, so the family doesn’t know what will happen.

“It feels like humiliation, if we can describe it that way,” Mr. Lokassa expressed, mentioning that the delay was creating stress within the family.

MrLokassa said that even if the government doesn’t provide assistance, the family hopes to bury his father by mid-October. The bill for the morgue has already reached $4,000.

Lokassa ya Mbongo, also known as Denis Kasiya Lokassa, passed away at the age of 77 due to diabetes and complications from a mild stroke he had in 2020.

He was a great guitarist from DR Congo, but he mostly worked in Paris, leading the Soukous Stars band since 1984.

Later on, he joined forces with singer Sam Mangwana in Ivory Coast to create the African All Stars.

The guitarist is well known for his famous songs like Bonne Annee, Monica, Marie-Josse, Lagos Night, and Nairobi Night.

He went to the US in 1996 and lived there until he died in March. His dead body was taken to DR Congo the next month.

In any case, Craftsman in Peril, a charity gather for craftsmen in DR Congo, proposed that the government was not to fault for the burial service being deferred, which it had been caused by contrasts within the musician’s family over who ought to lead burial plans.

The group’s head, Tsaka Kongo, told the BBC that the family was required to show a letter to the specialists concurring to conclusion their debate and permit the government to sort out the burial.

“I drawn nearer Lokassa’s family to assist them speed up the burial service prepare but they needed to continue alone, which I complied with. The [burial] delay is stunning, my wish is that a arrangement is found as before long as conceivable,” Mr Kongo said.

In April, the body of another well-known Congolese artist Saak Sinatra Sakul was flown from Paris to Kinshasa for burial.

The family was trusting for government offer assistance for his memorial service, but relatives at that point buried him on their possess since of fears that his body could decompose because it had allegedly been kept in a casket, instead of a mortuary drawer, for almost 10 days.

Other Congolese performers have moreover held up for months to be buried after their passing. These incorporate composer and saxophonist Kiamuangana Mateta Verckys, who passed on in October final year and was buried in December and jazz star Lutumba Simaro Masiya, who passed on in Walk 2019 and was as it were laid to rest in May that year.

Lokassa’s niece Nicole Londala too faulted the government for the delay, saying it had not however satisfied its guarantee to fund the burial.

“We at first trusted that the burial service may be composed in five or 10 days. It is difficult that since 15 April, we are still holding up for the burial service to require put,” Ms Londala told the BBC.

Israel risks long difficult war following Hamas onslaught from Gaza

0

The Israeli military says that Hamas fighters from Gaza have entered Israel’s southern communities and killed around 300 people.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed the citizens that they are entering a war that will be lengthy and tough.

Many armed people entered southern Israel, they killed soldiers and regular people, and they took a large number of hostages into Gaza, as said by the army.

On Sunday morning, the Israeli Air Force said it was attacking important buildings and systems in Gaza.

The Israeli army attacked southern Lebanon with big guns after mortars were shot from there towards Israeli positions in the disputed Mount Dov/Shebaa Farms area.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah group said they carried out the attack to support the Palestinian resistance.

Over 300 people have died due to Israeli airstrikes in Gaza since Palestinian militants entered Israel from Gaza on Saturday morning, as confirmed by Palestinian health officials.

People living in Gaza got messages from Israel telling them to go to the city or seek safety in shelters.

The leader of Israel said in a message that they were forced into war because Hamas attacked them. They said the initial stage of the war would be over soon, as they were getting rid of most of the militants on their land. Israel will make sure its citizens are safe and succeed in their goals, he said.

The Israeli government has decided to stop providing electricity, fuel, and goods to Gaza.

Israel’s worst fear – Palestinian militants with weapons wandering around in the southern part of the country – started early on Saturday, during the Jewish day of rest and celebration known as Simchat Torah.

Gunmen broke through the fence separating Gaza from Israel. They entered Israel using motorbikes, paragliders, and by sea. The IDF spokesperson said there were hundreds of these people, and over 3,000 rockets were shot at Israel in one day.

Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus said that they attacked many Israeli communities and IDF bases. They went from one house to another, searching inside.

They killed innocent Israeli people in their houses and then took more Israeli people to Gaza. I am referring to women, children, the elderly, and disabled individuals.

Disturbing videos showed Israeli people running scared from a desert festival, and women being forced into vehicles and taken away by kidnappers.

Israeli people were calling and informing the news channels that they were staying inside their houses because they were very afraid and worried about their safety. Fifteen people living in the town of Netiv HaAsara were killed by Hamas fighters.

In the town of Sderot, a person named Shlomi saw a lot of people lying on the ground along the road.

Over time, the Israeli military started to regain control over many of the southern communities. According to Israeli media, the hostages who were kept in a dining room in Kibbutz Be’er were released after 18 hours. Soon after, more updates said that soldiers had rescued people who were being held captive in the town of Ofakim. The assailants who were keeping them hostage were also killed.

US President Joe Biden said that America strongly supports Israel, which is currently being targeted by a terrorist group. Biden described the support as very strong and unwavering.

Hamas’s military group stated that they captured many more Israelis than just a few dozen, including important military leaders.

By the end of Saturday, over 1,500 people got hurt in Gaza and another 1,500 in Israel, according to officials.

The army said that if Hamas continues to use a very high level of violence, they will respond in a way that has never been seen before.

Thousands of reserve soldiers have been called up and are now getting ready to start a military operation on the ground in Gaza.

On Saturday, Israel attacked and destroyed a tall building called the Palestine Tower in the middle of Gaza City. This building had radio stations owned by Hamas on its roof.

The Israeli air force attacked buildings used by important members of Hamas for doing terrorist acts. They informed the people in the buildings to leave before the attack happened.

There was fighting in different places in the West Bank on Saturday. Palestinian doctors said that six Palestinians were killed during clashes with Israeli forces.

Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif asked all Palestinians to help with the group’s mission.

“We have decided to stop these Israeli offenses with the help of God, so that the enemy realizes they can no longer cause chaos without facing consequences,” he said.

Ismail Haniyeh, the leader who is not currently in his home country, said that Palestinian groups plan to make the fighting bigger in the West Bank and Jerusalem that is controlled by another country.

Ghazi Hamad, who speaks for Hamas, told the BBC that Iran supported the attack directly.

Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine and a political opponent of Hamas, stated that the Palestinian people have the right to protect themselves from the violence caused by settlers and occupying forces.

Many countries strongly disapprove of the Hamas attacks.

The UN boss, António Guterres, said he was shocked by reports that innocent people were attacked and taken from their houses. The UK’s Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, firmly denounced the terrible attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians.

Saudi Arabia wants the fighting to stop right away. They have been warning about the dangers of the occupation and how the Palestinian people are being mistreated for a long time.

Biden trapped in Trump’s shadow on border problem

0

President Joe Biden is facing a tough situation because a lot of people are coming from Mexico to the US.

Democratic leaders at the state and local level, who are supposed to be his biggest supporters before the next presidential election, are strongly criticizing the way he is dealing with immigration. His likely opponent in the 2024 Republican race, Donald Trump, is intensifying his criticisms on an issue that has been an important part of his political message for almost ten years. And fewer people are supporting Mr. Biden in this situation.

Although the voting will take place in more than a year, the increasing immigration crisis is causing problems even far away from the US-Mexico border. Republican governors have been sending newly arrived migrants to cities run by Democrats, which could negatively affect Mr. Biden’s popularity and his chances of being re-elected.

The numbers show that things are getting worse. Based on early data from the US Department of Homeland Security, around 210,000 people who didn’t have the proper documents were caught by US Border Patrol when they were trying to enter the country in September. This is the best score of the year, and it almost reaches the highest number of arrests in a month which happened at the end of 2022.

If the Biden administration believed that the border crisis was getting better and the attention of the country was shifting to other problems after making changes to government policies earlier this year, the latest rise in the situation should remove that idea.

Furthermore, the way the number of immigrants is increasing indicates that there might not be a solution to this problem anytime soon. Around 25% of the people caught crossing the border last month were from Venezuela, a country in South America. Venezuela has been going through difficult times because of its ruler, Nicolas Maduro, who has a socialist dictatorship.

The situation in Venezuela has caused a lot of people to leave their country and seek refuge in other places, including the United States. Over seven million people have already fled Venezuela, and this has led to a crisis in the region. The effects of this crisis are now becoming more noticeable in the United States.

Over the past two months, more than 150,000 Venezuelans have traveled north to the US through Central America, crossing the Darian Gap.

“People don’t abruptly leave their homes just for no reason,” said Janet Napolitano, who was in charge of protecting the country during President Obama’s time, speaking to the BBC. “They are usually in a difficult situation – very poor, without a job, experiencing lots of crime, violence, and their home countries lack basic institutions. ”

A border guard in the United States sees people coming into the country who are not from there.
On Thursday, President Biden’s team shared two new actions they will take to deal with the major rise in something. These measures have made the president vulnerable to criticism from all sides of the political spectrum. The president allowed exceptions to environmental and planning rules and provided money to construct more parts of a wall on the border between the US and Mexico.

He also said that the US would start sending Venezuelan citizens back to their country directly. This practice had been stopped before because the two countries had difficult relations.

These new rules were quickly criticized. Some people who strongly oppose immigration said the rules were not enough, while some left-wing immigration activists said they were too strict. The president’s confusing explanations made things worse. He said he still thinks walls don’t work and that Congress made him spend money on it.

The Venezuelan announcement shows that the government has changed its attitude. Before, they allowed around 500,000 Venezuelan refugees in the US to apply for work permits and not be sent back to their country for 18 months.

In an attempt to calm fears that he is not taking enough action to handle the increase in people crossing the border, while also keeping his liberal followers satisfied, he seems to be satisfying neither group. This has been a difficult problem that has occurred several times regarding border policies during Biden’s presidency.

Immigration has become a very divided topic. This is partly because of Mr Trump’s strong “build the wall” words and sometimes harsh policies while he was president. This has greatly limited Mr. Biden’s ability to handle the crises.

While President Barack Obama was able to increase the number of deportations and make the border stronger without facing backlash from liberal activists, Mr. Biden doesn’t have the same advantage. Now, every action he does regarding immigration is seen within the ongoing political battles between Mr. Trump and the Republicans, and the Democrats on the opposite side.

Now, the latest surveys show that during the argument between different political parties, the people are starting to become less supportive of the president.

In a recent poll by Marquette University, registered voters were asked to pick who they thought was doing a better job on immigration and border security: the current president or the previous one. More than half of the people (52%) said they liked Mr Trump better, while only 28% chose Mr Biden.

This is the equal biggest difference between the two candidates, along with the economy. It is opposite to subjects like abortion and climate change, where Mr Biden is clearly ahead.

The NBC News poll showed that 45% of Americans believed that Republicans were better at handling immigration, while only 27% thought Democrats were better. This is a big change from when most American people liked the Democrats during the time Trump was president.
“Caption that accompanies a media file,”

Why hasn’t Trump received money like other presidents did for a border barrier.

The ongoing alarming news from the border, along with the pressure on public services in big US cities where the migrants are going, is impacting people’s thoughts and feelings.

If the crisis doesn’t improve before the serious campaigning for the 2024 general election starts, the president will have a disadvantage in competing against his Republican opponent.

Ms Napolitano says that fixing the immigration problem will require the Biden team to work together.

“She says that it calls for diplomatic communication. ” We need to invest in other countries to reduce the reasons why people want to migrate. And it needs to have a strong and secure border, as well as effectively enforcing our immigration laws that should be changed and improved.

Ultimately, what really matters is whether or not the new immigration policies implemented by Mr. Biden are effective, rather than the criticism he may face for his actions this week. If they cannot stop the flow of migrants from Venezuela and other places, it becomes harder for Biden to get re-elected.

African leaders call for end to deadly Israel-Gaza violence

0

African leaders called on warring parties in the Israel-Gaza conflict to halt deadly confrontations that erupted on 7 October when the Palestinian Hamas militant group launched a surprise assault.

State House is deeply anchored with gays and defenders, protectors and promoters of gay rights- Fred M’membe

EFF Calls for the Impeachment of Hakainde Hichilema: Violation of the Constitution an Impeachable Offense- Kasonde Mwenda C -EFF President

[Lusaka, 7th October 2023, Zambia] – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) vehemently condemns the United Party for National Development (UPND) government for its blatant contravention and defiance of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia. According to our revered Constitution, the Auditor General’s report for the previous year is mandated to be presented before the President and Parliament prior to the presentation of a new budget.

The inclusion of this crucial clause in our Constitution was strategically designed to assess and evaluate the previous year’s revenue and expenditure before embarking on the new budget. This prudent measure is meant to safeguard the financial resources and other assets of our great nation.

The law clearly outlines the specific timelines within which the Auditor General’s report should reach parliament and the President. Clause number 212 of the Zambian Constitution unambiguously states that “The Auditor General shall not later than nine months after the end of the financial year submit an audit report to the President and National Assembly on the accounts of the Republic audited in respect of the preceding financial year.”

To brazenly violate the Zambian Constitution is a direct affront to the citizens who trusted and bestowed power upon these office bearers, who took an oath to uphold and protect the very Constitution they are now shamelessly abrogating. This act of defiance and disregard for our supreme law indicates a persistent lack of transparency, accountability, and an alarming abuse of Zambia’s scarce resources.

Moreover, the circumstances surrounding the departure of the previous Auditor General, Sichembe, and the audacious attempts by the UPND government to install an ineligible candidate due to the age requirement further emphasize their clear disregard for the Zambian Constitution and the laws they swore to uphold.

As EFF, we demand that the UPND government immediately upholds the Constitution, as failing to do so undermines the very foundation of our democracy and erodes the trust of the Zambian people. The citizens deserve a government that respects and abides by the laws of the land, and it is high time that the UPND government upholds their constitutional obligations.

We also make cognizant of serious illegal breaches in the purported Auditor General Report such the omission to report on the Constituency Development Fund CDF which accounts for K4.5 billion making 2.7% of the budget and more grossly the conspicuous omission of the report on Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development (MIHUD) that contributes 31% of Zambia’s GDP.

In conclusion, the EFF stands firmly against the UPND government’s unconstitutional actions and calls for the immediate rectification of this flagrant violation by demanding unity in upholding the constitution and presentation of a private member’s motion in parliament to initiate impeachment proceedings. We will not relent in our pursuit of a transparent, accountable, and responsible government that respects and upholds the sacred tenets of the Zambian Constitution. The EFF will remain at the forefront of the fight for economic freedom and the preservation of our nation’s resources for the benefit of all Zambians.

Wherever we want to go our feet will take us there,

I can’t praise UPND for their good work because they always criticised PF – Mumbi Phiri

FORMER PF deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri says the UPND-led government has done some work worth appreciating but will not publicly praise them because they always criticised the PF.

Phiri made the remarks when ahe featured on Radio Phoenix’s “Let the People Talk yesterday morning.

The former Munali member of Parliament said she Christian who believed in reaping what one had sown and the UPND planted the seed criticizing everything PF did.

“They planted a seed….I am a Christian, you reap what you sow,” she said.

Phiri also discussed the ongoing debate surrounding the potential return of former President Edgar Lungu into active politics ahead of the 2026 presidential election as she is advocating for it.

While discussing the public’s perception of Lungu, Phiri did not shy away from expressing confidence in the former head of state’s ability to secure the majority vote in the 2026 general election.

She said she wasn’t the only one advocating for Lungu’s comeback but it was the people that are calling for him.

Phiri argued that Lungu’s public appearances and activities, including jogging didn’t mean he was in active politics stating his activities were only being amplified due to social media.

She said even Kaunda after retiring continued playing golf but his activities were on low profile because there wasn’t any social media at the time.

However, Phiri accused the United Party UPND of playing a role in Edgar Lungu’s likely potential return to the political scene.

She claimed that the UPND had not fulfilled their obligations towards the former president, such as providing him with government vehicles.

A caller asked Phiri on the programme
on why she was pushing for the comeback of Lungu instead of other candidates vying for the PF top position

“As strong as you feel about those other candidates, why should you disadvantage me?That’s my democratic right. Besides, Edgar Chagwa Lungu is eligible,”she responded.

“Respect my decision.”

Phiri however added that she would support anyone who will be selected.

OPPOSITION POLITICAL PARTIES DISAPPOINTED WITH MWEETWA’S RESPONSE TO LETTER WRITTEN TO HH

OPPOSITION POLITICAL PARTIES DISAPPOINTED WITH MWEETWA’S RESPONSE TO LETTER WRITTEN TO HH

…. say the response falls far short of decorum expected of the office of the Chief Government Spokesperson…

8th October 2023

We are disappointed with Minister of Information and Government Spokesman Cornelius Mweetwa’s response to the Opposition Political Parties Open Letter to the Republican President.

We expected that the open letter, raising some very serious national issues of concern, would receive an equally sober response.

Instead, we see the Minister of Information veer off into ranting and attacking the persons of individual Opposition Party Presidents.

The response by the Honourable Minister falls far short of the decorum expected of his office. The matters raised by the Opposition leaders are not partisan, but rather, are national in nature and hence deserve to be treated with sobriety. When we engage the Republican President as we have done, we are not speaking for ourselves, but rather, speaking on behalf of the many Zambians that we represent.

We ought to be understood that no machinations at trying to divide us shall work. We stand together as Opposition Political Parties, not as an alliance nor a consortium as the minister has put it, but as individual Political Parties who the Zambians are reaching out to with their grievances.

Having said that, there are some points to note:

1. Our letter, as Opposition Political Parties, was calling for a National Indaba and not a meeting to be held between the Republican President and the Opposition. However, should the Republican President prefer to meet with us, as opposed to the National Indaba, then kindly indicate so.
2. Contrary to the assertion by the Minister of Information, the President has not made any prior effort to meet with us as Opposition Political Parties. We do understand the UPND’s penchant of being economic with the truth.
3. We have previously formally written to the Republican President on matters relating to the nation, as individual Political Parties. None of us have ever received a response to those letters – not even acknowledgments of receipt of the same. We are therefore requesting for a formal and befitting response from the office that our letter was addressed to.

On behalf of many Zambians, we await the formal response from the Republican President.

We remain in service to the Zambian people.

The Illegal Auditor General Mwambwa Shocked Me With His Unprofessional (Tone From Above) Utterance- Mutotwe Kafwaya

0

THE ILLEGAL AUDITOR GENERAL MWAMBWA SHOCKED ME WITH HIS UNPROFESSIONAL (TONE FROM ABOVE) UTTERANCE.

By Mutotwe Kafwaya

Dr. Ron Mwambwa is illegally occupying the office of the Auditor General. He is above the constitutionally set age limit for someone to legally occupy that office. Similarly,he was made to act in that position illegally and he has now been appointed to hold that office illegally.

Speaking for myself, all the work that he has and is executing as either Acting Auditor General or Auditor General is illegal. There is nothing anyone can do to reduce his age to below 60 years. He needed to have vacated office 4 years ago.

After acting in office illegally, two very important issues bother me greatly about this illegal auditor as follows:

(1) the president has now appointed Ron Mwambwa. As such, he is no longer acting as illegal Auditor General. Though appointed, his appointment is yet to be confirmed by the National Assembly. His appointment is yet to be ratified. Consequently he has not been sworn in yet. So, as he mobilizes the media and starts lecturing to them on the right tone from above, he is doing so as who?

You are not Acting sir and your appointment is not confirmed. You’re supposed to be at home, waiting for your confirmation by parliament. Manje imwe kaya ngati ni desperation yabwanji? You even have the audacity to be lecturing the media about the causes of trends in your illegal report – the causes of trends that did not form part of your illegal audit process – that is really low for someone who is supposed to be mistaken for a professional. And this brings me to my second and final point;

(2) how can you attribute the so called improving trends in your illegal report to the TONE from above. This is one of the most foolish utterances I have heard from someone occupying the equivalent of that office anywhere in the world. Tell me what tone is there in your illegal occupation of that office. I won’t give you many examples though I can on request – but since you’re overage, you may have forgotten what makes a good control system and I take the pressure to remind you; it is actually appropriate and effective internal controls and a good control environment.

So tell me what internal controls have improved since that the arrival of that so called tone? What control environment changes have occurred since then? Let me tell you sir, there is nothing on internal controls that has changed. Let me tell you for nothing that tenders for fertilizer are cancelled at will on multiple occasions against provided internal controls.

I don’t know if you are aware, though I really don’t expect you to be aware that at the ministry of tourism, there was an illegal cancellation of hunting concessions. This illegal act was litigated and government has lost money. The people of Zambia have lost money. This happened in the audit period under review (2022). Honestly only an incompetent auditor can not include this event in his/her report. Assess yourself on this.

For the control environment, things are worse now, that is why people like you are able to take your boss to JCC so as to get an illegal appointment. There is so much that has gone bitterly wrong including in acting illegal laws such as the NPA amendment ACT. And frankly I don’t search hard in my memory to find board chairpersons who have left offices on account of bad interference. It is near my memory to locate people from your office who got allowances but have not joined Mrs Mbazima at ACC.

It’s heartbreaking to think of how the Auditor Generals office can produce a useless report like the one you have. Even if you are an illegal auditor, at least your illegal report should’ve retained some objectivity. Now I am thinking that probably even that former secretary called Theo who wanted Dicks job could’ve been a better auditor. And for sure she is not yet overage, it’s just that her ambition is way above her experience. It’s just ambition connected to patronage and nepotism.

Your actions are abhorrent; this you ought to know.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER’S VERDICT ON CHINA’S LENDING; MISSING THE MARK- Edwin Lifwekelo

FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER’S VERDICT ON CHINA’S LENDING; MISSING THE MARK

Lusaka Province…….Sunday, 8th October 2023.

The recent statement made in Parliament by the Minister of Foreign Affairs is without doubt irresponsible as it borders on straining diplomatic relations between China and Zambia.

It is a well known fact that China- Zambia relations have been the best on the continent of Africa until the UPND Government came into power. There is no infrastructure development in Zambia one can point out to, from 1967 to 2021, which does not have a Chinese touch.

The Foreign Affairs Minister’s recent assessment of China’s lending policy in Zambia is totally irresponsible and the country may end up paying heavily for that irresponsible statement. Zambia as a developing country, needs all weather friends countries like China to assist in its development. Development is one area where politics should never play and see its day as suffering of the people cuts across political divide.

In a time of international turbulent political landscape we need mature and sober minds in running affairs of State and especially where it borders on international relations. Whether the UPND Government officials like China or not is immaterial as before long they will be gone but the entire nation will need China for its development and even for international trade.China is the largest single investor in Zambia and China is the single largest importer of our Copper.

Wreckless statements such as the one from the Minister of Foreign Affairs destroys relations and even the confidence needed to build bridges between China and zambia. Zambia needs those bridges more than China and therefore the Minister is not helping his Government with such an irresponsible statement made in the august house of Parliament.

It is said that, you cannot insult the crocodile before you cross the river. It is absolutely counter productive to call names, a country you approached to help you restructure the outstanding loans. The UPND Government must learn to use civilised language. It is a known fact that the UPND Government officials are pro west but international geopolitics requires that we pass them through International school of diplomacy and let them know that China is the second largest economy as per Growth Domestic Product (GDP)after the USA and the largest economy when we use Purchasing power Parity (PPP). China cannot be ignored in the world. Even the US President wants to work with China. Where does that leave Zambia?

Unchecked rhetoric which has characterised the running of Government by the UPND officials must come to an end if we are to build bridges in international relations and especially with countries not favoured by the current UPND administration. It is the countries not favoured by the current Government which have been loyal to us and have been all weather friends and the People’s Republic of china tops the list.

We are aware that the UPND government has to match its promises and rhetoric with deliveries but the Minister’s unwarranted and irresponsible rhetoric in Parliament against China did not help matters at all. It may require Presidential intervention to maintain the bridges with China, otherwise Zambians may face more uncalled for economic challenges if China reacts in one way or the other.

With the current economic challenges at hand and with the expected severe global economic challenges of the future, Zambia cannot afford to build a cadre of enemies all around us and it is vital that the cool heads of the current State machinery mend fences with China for the good of our nation for we cannot afford to have hot heads of the current Government, destroy productive relations of over 50 years with the People’s Republic of China.

In the meantime, this government should focus on policies that ensure that the average Zambian affords three meals a day as they promised and ensure that they continue to further improve upon the infrastructure development the previous Government worked on with vigour and is a milestone in the nation.

As Zambia faces political tensions, economic challenges, social justice challenges and more, it is imperarative that those who handle matters of State are careful with their tongues as the tongue has power to build even as it has the power to destroy. With Zambians in a hurry to develop, it requires leaders with wisdom and not leaders excited with the present and are ready to buy the present and sell off the future.

To uplift a nation, a comprehensive and balanced approach is required and wisdom and all round discipline is cardinal and may those in the corridors of power learn. The Minister of Foreign Affairs’ unwarranted rhetoric to look intelligent will not help build but end up destroying everything meant to build and develop Zambia. We build and develop through relationships developed and nurtured over years and one man must not be allowed to destroy what took more than five decades to build.

We need China- our all weather friend.

Michael Jackson’s family reclaims singer’s items worth $1 million ‘stolen’ by his sister’s ex-fiancé

0

after the pop star’s passing.

During his stay at the Carolwood House, Michael Jackson’s lawyers asserted that Phillips stole various items, including Michael Jackson’s and his children’s iPhones, the singer’s driver’s license, prescription medication, clothing, handwritten notes, and a briefcase containing personal and business letters, according to the Daily Mail.

Michael Jackson’s lawyers alleged that Phillips committed a highly distressing and inhumane act by stealing the pajamas Michael Jackson was wearing in the final hours of his life. They added that Phillips also took a resuscitator tube that was used on Michael Jackson during the frantic efforts to save the pop star’s life before his passing.

Accusations against Phillips were filed just a day before the 13th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s passing on June 25, 2009. The estate of Jackson alleged that they received a tip in December 2021, suggesting that Phillips was trying to auction off items belonging to the late singer.

To validate the items’ authenticity, it is claimed that Phillips confessed to the auctioneer that he had taken these items in the days following Michael Jackson’s death while he was staying at the mansion. The auctioneer contacted the estate to confirm the authenticity of items related to Michael Jackson, including a pair of sunglasses supposedly worn by the singer with makeup still on them, according to Phillips’ claims.

Michael Jackson’s legal team has managed to recover some of the items Phillips allegedly took, but they suspect he still possesses home videos and unreleased music created by the late singer before his passing.

The estate of Michael Jackson requested the court to compel Phillips to return all items he allegedly removed from Jackson’s residence. A judge issued a preliminary injunction in August, preventing Phillips from selling any of these items. In November, the estate filed additional legal documents to reclaim the property, estimating its total value at $1 million.

In the fall of 2009, reports surfaced about a romantic connection between Phillips and La Toya Jackson, which emerged several months after Michael Jackson’s passing in June. Phillips proposed to La Toya Jackson in 2013, sparking speculation about their marriage in December of that year, although La Toya Jackson later refuted these rumors.

Despite their engagement lasting until 2015, they eventually decided to part ways. While they remained close friends, the current status of their relationship remains undisclosed.

STAGING MUMBI PHIRI BESIDES ECL AND SCREAMING FOR THE RETURN OF ECL TO ACTIVE POLITICS AND DANCING A SONG “NALITUMPA” CALLS FOR A DEEP CHECK ON THE MENTAL FACULTY OF THE FORMER PRESIDENT …***

By Stembridge Sikalundu

We may be thinking all is well in the mind of ECL and yet he needs a serious check on his health since losing power , I take exceptions from the caption where MUMBI PHIRI was staged screaming and shouting that ECL withdraws his retirement letter from govt and returns to active politics , this call by MUMBI PHIRI can never represent the voice of the zambian people , but some members of the PF who have resolved that there are no leaders in PF unless ECL , is ECL deficient of substance to understand that what MUMBI PHIRI was doing can not improve his advancement to becoming president of this country ever again ? . If we can check the body language and reactions of ECL as he was moving to the frontier , one may doubt his mental faculty because he may not be in the right frame of mind , ECL may be experiencing mental distress as a result of the shock of loosing that election which he thought he had every one in place he needed using strategic interests to ensure they made him win the 2021 general elections .

It is very undeniable ECL needs help from other former leaders from other countries , it is unfortunate that his close friends MUGABE is not there and MUSEVENI is still serving . Who are the people that surround ECL who are telling him he can be president of zambia again ?, the MMD pundits surely BOWMAN , NAKACHINDA , LUBINDA KAMBWILI , MWAMBA , MWILA can help ECL return to power in Zambia ? , some people may think am just too excited and insensitive to the plight of ECL , if ECL is not helped and counselled , the effects of him desiring to become president will begin to take a serious tole on his body health , only himself understands what it takes to loose power when one still needed the presidency atmost , and loosing power to the person he despised makes it even worse and heartbreaking for ECL in the faces of zambians , it is not his courage which is determining his return , something is terribly wrong in the mind , therapists are needed as soon as possible because if he goes into an election which he will loose , it will be worse for him and all the people around him now will evaporate in thin air leaving him alone to take care of his depression . Someone will remember that I’ve said it .

We may not know how much there is already in the wage of distress in the life of ECL , churches have failed to prepare ECL to be a predictable person , that includes a lot of organisations in Zambia that are watching how ECL is being driven by impulse by everyone in the PF party that is behaving like a carder in front of ECL , why has ECL chosen to loose his dignity by taking pride because he still has followers around him who are still praising him , it is very important for a y man to loose friends but maintain his dignity , the status which ECL is going to give up has many benefits than returning to politics and fail to even get what he scored in the last general election , we can help ECL as a country otherwise PF members are destroying his good concious and they will never be anywhere near him after he looses the next elections . It is now very difficult for any zambian to know who ECL is because his decisions are influenced by his surrogates , it was going to be the right time for ECL if he chose not to be used as a pone by some people who can never do anything in life without him , PF clowns are destroying ECL more if they are not careful with the cosmetic political praises they are showering him in front of the cameras God bless mother Zambia .

Neo-liberal Polices Vs Development Economics

0

By Emmanuel Mwamba

Neo-liberal Polices Vs Development Economics
While it’s important to note that the effectiveness of economic policies can vary depending on specific circumstances, here are five arguments that proponents of developmental economics we make in favor of the approach over neoliberal policies especially pursued by the UPND:

1. Inclusive Growth: Developmental economics often prioritizes inclusive growth, aiming to reduce income inequality and improve living standards for a broader segment of the population. Neo-liberal policies, on the other hand, promote private and corporate driven economy. This usually leads to benefits of economic going to a few, making billions for owners of enterprise while leading to income disparities and high unequal society.

2. Industrialization and Diversification: Developmental economies often emphasize the importance of developing domestic industries and diversifying the economy. This can help reduce dependence on foreign markets and stabilize the economy against external shocks, which may be less of a focus in neoliberal policies that are foreign and private-centric.

3. Social Welfare and Safety Nets: Developmental policies tend to prioritize the establishment of social welfare programs and safety nets, providing a cushion for vulnerable populations during economic downturns. Neo-liberal policies may be more focused on reducing government intervention in these areas.

4. Long-Term Planning: Developmental economics often involves long-term planning and strategic investments in key sectors, infrastructure, and education. This can contribute to sustainable economic growth, while neoliberal policies may focus more on short-term benefits driven by market forces.

5. Regional Development: Developmental economics can promote regional development by directing resources to less developed areas, reducing regional disparities. Neo-liberal policies may not always address regional imbalances effectively.

It’s important to recognize that the effectiveness of economic policies depends on the specific context and implementation, and there is ongoing debate about which approach is best.

Different countries may adopt elements of both developmental and neoliberal policies to achieve their economic goals.

THE ASIAN DEVELOPMENT MODEL

The Asian developmental model may be considered advantageous for Africa compared to the Western model for several reasons:

Contextual Relevance: Asian countries, such as China, India, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea, have experienced rapid economic growth and development in recent decades.
Their experiences may be more relevant and relatable to African nations, given similar historical and developmental challenges.

State-Led Development: Many Asian countries have successfully employed state-led development strategies, where governments play a central role in economic planning and investment.
This approach can be effective in addressing infrastructure gaps and fostering industrialization, which are critical for African nations.

Emphasis on Manufacturing: The Asian model often emphasizes building a strong manufacturing base, which can create jobs and increase export opportunities. This focus aligns with Africa’s potential to develop manufacturing industries and reduce dependence on raw material exports.
Infrastructure Investment: Asian countries have invested heavily in infrastructure projects, such as transportation networks and energy generation. These investments can improve connectivity within Africa and facilitate trade and economic growth.
South-to-South Cooperation: African countries may find it easier to collaborate with Asian nations due to shared development experiences and similar challenges. South-to-South cooperation can lead to technology transfer, investment, and knowledge sharing.
Long-Term Perspective: Asian countries have often pursued long-term development strategies with stability and continuity in government policies. This approach can provide a sense of stability and predictability for investors in African economies.

Learning from Mistakes: Asian countries have learnt from their past mistakes and adapted their developmental models accordingly. African nations can benefit from studying these experiences and avoiding common pitfalls.
It’s important to note that there is no one-size-fits-all approach, and the suitability of any developmental model depends on a country’s specific circumstances, resources, and governance.

We may consider elements of both Western and Asian models to design a development strategy that best suits us.

CDF HAS NOT WORKED -JCTR

0

INCREASING CDF ALLOCATION IS NOT AN END IN ITSELF

Allocation to the Constituency Development Fund has continued to increase in the consecutive National Budgets in 2022 and 2023.

In the 2024 National Budget the government proposes to increase further the allocation to K30,600 million per constituency.

The idea of allocating resources to the
communities is beyond reproach. The enhanced CDF (in both amounts and scope) has a potential of bringing about a huge economic transformation at the community level. However, in order for the enhanced CDF to achieve its intended objectives, the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) would like to bring to the nation’s attention a number of challenges that must be addressed as a matter of urgency.

The implementation of the enhanced CDF continues to face a number of challenges
including the following:

1. Lack of transparency in the implementation of Zambia where community participation in
public bid opening for contractors has been extremely low.

2. Low accountability in the implementation of CDF in Zambia as there has been low information sharing, especially monitoring reports.

3. Low community participation in CDF, where many do not participate in selecting community
projects.

4. Low burn rates of CDF among constituencies, where these resources are still in the accounts of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (as of 2023, we are at 7 million disbursement of CDF 2023 allocations per constituency).

5. Weak CDF architecture to ensure CDF reaches the intended beneficiaries.

6. Numerous executive directives on the utilization of CDF resources, thereby, compromising community participation in CDF.

7. Weak mechanisms to monitor the database of the beneficiaries double dipping from CDF by belonging to multiple cooperatives and applying to numerous constituencies.

8. Political influence in the implementation of CDF, where CDF has been used as a campaign tool for politicians.

9. Capacity concerns at the Local Authority level (Limited number of staffs).

10. Poor management of cooperatives after receiving grants (cooperatives disbanding after receiving resources).

11. Lack of comprehensive audit to establish the value for money on all CDF resources.

The JCTR is seriously concerned with increasing the CDF allocation without first addressing the above highlighted challenges which evidently are impeding transparency, accountability and community participation in the implementation of CDF.

Without addressing these challenges, CDF will continueto be hijacked by politicians. This will derail CDF from achieving the intended goal of alleviating poverty and improving the living standards and conditions of people in Zambia.

The JCTR, therefore, recommends that for the enhanced CDF to meet its desired goal, the following must be considered:

1. Relocate the management and implementation of skills development and bursaries scope from the Local Authority to the Ministry of Education at the district levels. This is because the ministry has more capacities to implement this scope than the Local Authorities.

2. Relocate the management and implementation of empowerment (loans and grants) from the Local Authorities to the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Development at the district levels.

This is because the ministry has more capacities to manage loans and grants as witnessed with other initiatives like the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission loans.

3. Leave the Local Authorities to manage the community project scope. This is because they have more capacities and knowledge on the Integrated District Plans (IDPs). This will boost implementation of CDF in contributing to the 8th NDP.

4. Invest in the development of an integrated monitoring and evaluation system that captures data of all the CDF related projects across all the constituencies in the country.

5. Set up a platform that encourages inter-constituency collaboration in the implementation of some projects such as purchasing and servicing of road construction equipment as well as encouraging cross-learning of good practices amongst the constituencies.

6. Undertake a comprehensive audit to establish value for money on all CDF resources allocated
thus far.

HUNDREDS FEARED DEAD AFTER POWERFUL EARTHQUAKE HITS AFGHANISTAN

HUNDREDS FEARED DEAD AFTER POWERFUL EARTHQUAKE HITS AFGHANISTAN

Two strong earthquakes have shaken parts of western Afghanistan — leaving hundreds feared dead and more than 1,000 injured.

“So far more than 1,000 injured women, children and elderly citizens have been included in our records, and about 120 people have lost their lives,” said Mosa Ashari, the disaster management chief of the province of Herat.

Images shared by Afghan journalists showed at least one village reduced to rubble after a series of quakes flattened stone and mud-brick homes in the country’s west.

Other images showed the dead strewn about, covered out of respect with blankets. They included children.

At least five earthquakes hit around noon, Herat city resident Abdul Shakor Samadi told The Associated Press.

“All people are out of their homes,” Samadi said. “Houses, offices and shops are all empty and there are fears of more earthquakes. My family and I were inside our home, I felt the quake.” His family began shouting and ran outside, he told the news service.

An aerial view of the outskirts of Herat, Afghanistan on June 5. Two 6.3 magnitude earthquakes killed dozens of people in western Afghanistan’s Herat province on Saturday, Oct. 7, the country’s national disaster authority said.

Herat is Afghanistan’s third-largest city and is located 75 miles east of the border with Iran. The earthquakes were also felt in Iran’s northeastern Razavi Khorasan province.

Afghanistan’s Taliban government ferried away some of the wounded by helicopter.

The United Nations earlier said at least 320 were killed, but later added that number was not verified.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a pair of earthquakes had a magnitude of 6.3, and they were followed by aftershocks.

How one Afghan family made the perilous journey across the U.S.-Mexico border
The World Health Organization’s office in Afghanistan said on X, formerly Twitter: “We have sent medicines & medical supplies to the hospitals to support treatment of those wounded. Our warehouse is ready to deploy for additional medicines as needed.”

In June 2022, a powerful earthquake struck a remote area of eastern Afghanistan killing more than 1,000.

Afghanistan is one of the world’s poorest and malnourished countries — and it has been largely isolated since the Taliban seized power more than two years ago.

Kenya President Ruto to ask China for $1bn loan, debt restructure

0

Kenya’s President William Ruto will ask China for a $1-billion loan and a restructured debt payment plan, his deputy said Friday, despite having criticised his predecessor’s heavy borrowing from Beijing.

One of East Africa’s largest economies, Kenya has accumulated more than $68 billion in debt, a figure equivalent to 67 percent of its gross domestic product.

The cost of servicing the debt, mainly to China, has ballooned as Kenya’s currency has fallen to record lows of around 148 shillings to the dollar, according to treasury data.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said Ruto would travel to China and ask for “more time to repay the debt slowly” and $1 billion to complete road projects delayed by financing shortfalls.

“We are a responsible government, we can’t say that we won’t pay the debt,” Gachagua told a local language radio station.

“He will speak to them requesting at least one billion dollars to be able to pay contractors,” he said.

It was not immediately clear when Ruto would make the trip to Beijing, but the president has not visited the East Asian economic giant since winning a closely fought election in August 2022.

China is Kenya’s second-largest lender after the World Bank.

Beijing bankrolled Kenya’s most expensive infrastructure project since independence 60 years ago, loaning $5 billion to construct a railway line from the port city of Mombasa to Nairobi and Naivasha that opened in 2017.

It also financed the construction of a new port terminal in Mombasa.

The projects, among others, fuelled concerns that Nairobi was taking on more debt than it could afford.

Ruto railed against the borrowing of his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta on the campaign trail and pledged to find other ways to spur development to deliver the infrastructure Kenya needs.

China has rejected suggestions its lavish lending was trapping cash-strapped governments in debt dependency.

During a visit to Kenya in July, Beijing’s top diplomat Wang Yi praised the two countries’ economic partnership and described it as a “win-win”.

Kenya is one of the most dynamic economies in East Africa but about a third of the population lives in poverty.
Economic growth slowed last year to 4.8 percent from 7.6 percent in 2021, buffeted by the global fallout from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and a devastating regional drought that hit the country’s vital agriculture sector.

Inflation has remained stubbornly high, at an annual rate of 6.8 percent last month.

In July, global credit ratings agency Fitch Ratings downgraded Kenya’s ability to repay international lenders from “stable to negative”, citing tax hikes and social unrest.

US pressuring Russia ‘towards using’ nuclear weapons – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko

0

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that by giving weapons to Ukraine, the United States is causing Russia to consider using nuclear weapons.

I think Americans are making Russians consider using a very scary weapon. They give weapons to Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky and his group of soldiers, and also give them missiles that can be shot from far away. Even missiles that can go as far as 300 km (186 miles),” Lukashenko said while visiting a military base in the Brest area.

Lukashenko said that if a missile hit Russia, they would have to retaliate.

If someone attacks Russia very far inside their territory, the response will be huge. “If that’s the case, why do we even need these weapons. ” Lukashenko asked

He thinks that if tensions between the countries get worse, Russia might threaten to use nuclear weapons.

He said that Americans felt safe because they were far away from any potential danger.

Lukashenko talked about this after Putin said it might be possible to cancel a treaty that stops countries from doing nuclear tests.

The day after Putin talked, Russia’s State Duma Speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin, said the State Duma Council will definitely talk about canceling their approval of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty at their next meeting.

Lukashenko also talked about the unsure future of the help that US Congress is giving to Ukraine. He said that this is a sign for Ukraine to move quickly, increase their counterattack, and send more young men to fight.

You can see it in the media a lot these days. They say Zelensky is being criticized for not moving quickly enough in the counterattack. Lukashenko said the counterattack did not work and mentioned that only older men are involved in the fighting.

Lukashenko explained his thoughts on why the US wants Ukraine to quickly attack back. He said that US President Joe Biden could improve his approval rating by achieving a win in Ukraine.

Due to the current political situation, this war doesn’t benefit Biden and the American government in terms of power and influence. Biden is already not doing well according to all the surveys. He wants to win at something. “You have to contribute something valuable in order to succeed,” Lukashenko said.

Pura Luka Vega detained after Jesus performance sparked Catholic criticism

A person who dresses up as Jesus and sings a rock version of The Lord’s Prayer has been arrested in the Philippines. This has caused a big argument about free speech and protecting LGBTQ people.

The Philippines is a country where many people believe in Christianity, especially the Catholic Church. This church has a strong impact on everyday life and politics.

Amadeus Fernando Pagente, who is 33 years old and performs as Pura Luka Vega in drag, was accused by Catholic church officials and others of blasphemy. This happened after videos of their performance singing the Tagalog version of the prayer called “Ama Namin” became very popular online in July.

The person was arrested by the police on Wednesday for doing something that was against the law. The law says that it is not allowed to do things that are disrespectful to any religion. The information about the arrest was shared by the person’s legal team on a website called X. The claims suggest that they broke a law about cyber crime because they shared the video online, supposedly to carry out the crime that was mentioned.

The lawyers promised to challenge the accusations against Pagente and first work on getting him released on bail.

Videos of a drag performer singing The Lord’s Prayer in Tagalog with people at a bar got a lot of negative feedback from religious groups.

The show caused a big controversy in the Philippines. Pagente was seen wearing fancy clothes that looked like what Catholic priests wear, and had a golden circle above their head. The controversy lasted for weeks and was talked about a lot in the news. More than a dozen cities, including the capital Manila where Pagente lives, declared that Pagente was no longer welcome.

Pagente was arrested because a group called Hijos Del Nazareno Central filed a complaint against him. This group represents people who are devoted to the Black Nazarene, a special sculpture of Jesus that was brought from Mexico to the Philippines in 1606. These people believe that the sculpture has magical powers.

The group famously plans a big yearly religious parade in Quezon City that attracts a large number of religious followers.

Hijos Del Nazareno Central posted on Facebook after Pagente’s arrest, saying that its followers will not tolerate any disrespect towards the name of Jesus of the Nazarene. CNN has contacted the group for more information.

Many politicians, including senators, also appeared on Philippine television shows to express their disapproval of the drag artist’s performance. They found it disrespectful, offensive, and blasphemous.

The drag artist said sorry to people who didn’t feel good about their show. But they also argued that the act was a type of art, explaining to CNN affiliate CNN Philippines in an interview that the performance portrayed the sense of being left out as a queer individual in a heavily Catholic nation.

I know that some people think my performance is disrespectful, rude, or unfortunate. But they shouldn’t tell me how to follow my religion or how to do my drag performances. The show wasn’t meant for you from the start. This is my personal experience and how I feel about not being allowed to have my rights, the performer wrote in a message on July 13 on X.

Father Jerome Secillano, who speaks for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, said in an interview with CNN on Thursday that the church found the performance disrespectful because it didn’t show proper respect.

“He said that the performance made fun of our beliefs, and he believes that aspects of our beliefs should not be used for worldly purposes, particularly for amusement. “

But Secillano did not say whether the church thought that arresting Pagente was the correct action to protect the faith.

Almost 80% of people in the Philippines consider themselves to be Roman Catholic and the church is still very influential and powerful.

The Philippines is one of the few countries, alongside Vatican City, where divorce is still not permitted. Same-sex marriage and abortion are not allowed or permitted. A law that prevents discrimination and helps minorities has not been making progress in congress because of opposition from conservatives.

Carlos Conde, a senior researcher at Human Rights Watch, said that Pagente’s arrest was very upsetting and an excessive response by those who were offended.

As mall group of people who claim to be offended by Pura Luka [Vega] are the ones pushing this case, not all Filipinos. They are using existing laws to target and harm LGBT people. This was stated by Conde in an email to CNN.

Pagente was a participant on the reality competition show called”DragDen,” which started in December 2022 and is available on Amazon Prime.

The show, directed by Rod Singh, who is a transgender person from the Philippines, took place in an underground location. It showed the drag queens’ lively and bold characters while also highlighting their need to stay rebellious in a society that has traditional beliefs.

After Pagente’s arrest, Singh supported and spoke out for him, as she considers him both a friend and coworker. She stated on X that the problem at hand is no longer just about a drag performance or one’s beliefs in God or religion. Whether you like to accept it or not, your unfair judgment against our community and the rights we need is the main issue.

When you have your eyes open, you have faith and show respect to a God that you can’t see, but you ignore the important aspects of life and human rights when you close your eyes and ignore them. You learned how to pray, but you didn’t learn how to comprehend. Singh said that you shouldn’t ask for something if you can’t give it.

Model claims ex-Kanye West ‘weaponized’ her against Kim Kardashian and treated her ‘like a puppet’

Julia Fox, a 33 year-old model, has released more details on her relationship with Kanye West in Down The Drain, her upcoming memoir.

Julia, claimed that Kanye, whom she concisely dated in early 2022, ‘weaponized’ her against his ex Kim Kardashian.

The model explained to the Los Angeles Times;

‘I thought ultimately I’d be helping a precarious situation, but I learned very quickly that I was being weaponized.’

She said Kanye didn’t treat her as important as the way she expected.

She thought their pairing ‘could be something real’ as she ‘really understood him on a visceral.

‘I just felt like his little puppet.’

Even though she didn’t sign an NDA, Julia

‘went lightly’ in betelling her time with Kanye in the book.

“I’m not signing a f NDA just on principle. I never have, and I never will, unless it’s a professional opportunity, then sure,” she explained.

Following his anti-Semitic comments, the controversial star/rapper was dropped by various brands.

Julia then hinted that she may have been blacklisted from projects because of her association with him.

‘I know for a fact I’ve been up for certain things and couldn’t do it because of dating Kanye. It’s kind of wild,’ she said.

The model also said despite all the attention, she had never invested much

in the romance.

‘It really wasn’t that big of a deal, but other people made it such a big deal.’

Julia acknowledged that she still doesn’t see the point in dating.

After the breakup with Kanye, she quit men for a while.

‘That romanticized idea of men doesn’t exist anymore,’ she expressed.

The most important man is her life right now, is her adorable 2 year-old son, Valentino, whom she welcomed with Peter Artemiev, her ex-husband.

She continued, ‘all the validation I could ever get, I get from my son — the love, the intimacy, the closeness. We co-sleep at night. I have all of that. I wouldn’t want anyone to come in and take my attention or time away from my son.’

“Down the Drain,” Julia Fox’s memoir, releases on Tuesday.

Man demands lobola refund after wife runs off with pastor

SOUTH Africa- based Zimbabwean musician Sgodo, real name Alson Mandla Thebe, is demanding a refund of his lobola money from his in-laws after his wife dumped him for a man of God.

A heartbroken Sgodo is demanding a full refund of every cent that he paid for his wife, Buhle Ncube, after she left him just a year into their marriage.

Sgodo claims that Ncube took their child, who is now living with her mother, and she is refusing to give him access to the child.
The couple, who had a child together, seemed to have a promising future but soon after their child turned one-year-old, Ncube decided to leave

Sgodo and take their child with her to live with her mother.

Since then, Sgodo has been fighting to have access to his child without success.

Sgodo believes that his in-laws were attempting to take advantage of him saying when he paid lobola it was not for the upkeep of the child.

Sgodo is, however, arguing that the lobola he paid for Ncube should have covered their child as well, and he should not be required to pay money towards the upkeep of the child.

Feeling frustrated and deceived, Sgodo is now demanding a full refund of the lobola he paid for Ncube.

“My in-laws were trying to drain me financially and leave me penniless. My child should be allowed to live with my mother, who is still alive, but Ncube’s parents are against the idea,” said Sgodo.

Adding salt to injury, Ncube has been allegedly trying to make Sgodo jealous by sending him romantic messages and pictures while she would be with other men.

It is rumoured that Ncube left Sgodo for a known pastor who resides in South Africa.

When B-Metro spoke to Ncube she said she left Sgodo because he was abusing her.

“It is indeed true that I was in a relationship with Sgodo, it was all lovely that he went to pay lobola at my parent’s homestead and I went to live with him.

“Trouble started three months after moving in with him that he started having extra marital affairs with several women. When I confronted him about it he said it was his child’s mother and there was no way that he was going to lose communication with them so I left, taking my child with me and went to leave her at my parents’ house in Zimbabwe and returned to South Africa to work so I will be able to fend for her.

“After I had left the child, Sgodo started calling and insulting me saying he wants his child back or I will bring back the money he used on lobola. So I don’t know if that is how things are done since I gave him a child and I cannot continue staying in an abusive relationship with someone who doesn’t know what he wants,” said Ncube.

She said she had since moved on and Sgodo should also do the same.

“He is saying he wants to have me back but that will never happen. I’m too young to be abused. Sgodo is disrespectful and does not have respect for my parents.

“If he wants to see his child, he is free to do that but if he wants to take her and live with her then yes he will have to lobola her first. Right now the child is below 18 and I have every right to do whatever I want with her.

“When I was with him, it was like I was going to die of stress, he did not even know the size of my pants, now I am in a happy relationship, and I have found someone who knows how a woman is supposed to be treated. He even satisfies me in bed.

“Tell Sgodo I am very much fine and have found someone who knows and fears God, not a singer like him,” she bragged.

OPPOSITION PARTY LEADERS RESPONSE TO MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON’S MEDIA BRIEFING OF FRIDAY 6th OCTOBER 2023

RESPONSE TO MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON’S MEDIA BRIEFING OF FRIDAY 6th OCTOBER 2023

7th October 2023
