Finally Hakainde has woken up!

It is often said actions speak louder than words or trust must be earned. For those in public office, feedback is critical if they’re to successfully manage citizens’ expectations and rightfully attend to their needs.

This is why interaction is essential. Why? Because one of the most important aspects of being a human being is interacting with others. Man is a social being, and we can’t stay alone anywhere. The art of interacting with others helps us to be friendly with others and empathise with them. Many times, we think about what to say and how to say it.

However, if we have grown up among friends and relatives, these tactics are instilled in us automatically. Social interaction includes how we interact with others, to act and how to react. In our everyday lives, we meet many people, and if we know how to handle our social relationships, we are definitely successful in our lives.

In leadership, having direct access with the led is crucial. This is why we encourage Hakainde Hichilema to spend a fair amount of time in the communities at home than in the presidential jet and lands afar or navigating between Community House and State House!
Addressing a joint Evelyn Hone College and NIPA interactive forum to celebrate

the UPND’s two years in government on Thursday, President Hichilema said, “I’m missing you. I’m missing the people of Zambia because when you are put into the presidency you have so many hangers about, around you and you can’t mix freely. And from today, this week, I have told myself, we have restructured the debt, we are reconstructing the economy. We have cleaned up the image of Zambia in the eyes of the international community.

We are now a worthy member of the league of nations. If you travelled before elections, you arrived at the airport they looked at your passport, Zambia, they said hmmm that country! Now when you travel, they look at your passport, they say ah, from Zambia come in, come in. That is worth a lot. Image, credibility. Now that we are pulling these in the right place, and we inherited an economy which was growing minus 2.8 per cent…and we have been able to bottom up, while we continue to push that side, this friend of yours wants to come out and reach out to communities like NIPA and Evelyn Hone a lot more. That’s why I said I’m missing the people.

I want my colleagues in government to allow me time to have interactions like this so I can learn what is on the ground and how we can intervene together with my colleagues in government: local, central, quasi – parastatals, because we work for you. If we don’t have this interaction sometimes we miss certain things. I accept. We are now going to spend a fair amount of time in the communities so I can see with my own eyes, I can hear with my ears, I can relate to what I read and take it to my colleagues in Cabinet that can we deal with these issues. Is that not a good idea? So when I told you I’m missing you, you were quiet. I’m missing you. I’m missing you for that interaction.”
He is right. He has missed a lot of things. We have been consistent in informing him that the situation on the ground is not rosy. We have always alerted him about the high poverty levels and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities. But he seemed to have rubbished us as mere negative energy until he visited Mandevu Constituency. There he came face-to-face with reality. Maybe that interaction and the evident brutal reaction from people was the wakeup call he needed. His administration has for two years been distant from the masses. We hope his handlers now realise that things are not as they paint them. The 2.8 million, at this rate, cannot be sustained. This new dawn must now come down to earth and listen more. Address the plight of people. Lessen boardroom presentations and this league of nations talk. Deal with mealie meal prices, address fuel prices, and look at the liquidity side of the economy.

There is still time for Hakainde to reconnect with the people who put him where he is today. We applaud him for waking up and realising that he has all along allowed himself to be surrounded by hangers about as he puts it. And these hangers about can be brutal sometimes because they make sure they keep you away from reality while they enjoy from their interactions with you. And in your quest to please them, you detach yourself from the masses and the promises you made to them. And because these hangers about are always with you, the only problems you begin to attend to are theirs and those of their close allies. Actually, this is called state capture. You may not be aware of this as President, but with your excitement you invite it upon yourself and swim in it. You stop looking beyond your nose. Eventually, people begin to complain and you close your ears because you have convinced yourself that you have done the best for them when in fact not.
This is the situation Hakainde has been in for the last two years. He convinced himself that he was the best thing – President – that has ever happened to Zambia. That he has the best brains which do not need input from anyone else. And that he scored a first all the time. It’s like whatever the other six presidents did for this country is nothing compared to what Hakainde imagined he has done in two years. Yes, it is allowed to dream.

Nevertheless, self-deception can only go to a certain extent. At some point reality has to dawn. And this reality has dawned on Hakainde, especially after the reception he had in Mandevu Constituency. It showed him that while he was praising himself for doing nothing good for the people, the same people were busy despising and cursing him as prices of essential commodities kept rising. He also realised that even his praise singers no longer have enough energy to do that because they also suffer the same economic hardships. Majority praise singers’ economic state is actually a common destiny – hardship, squalor and swimming in the sea of joblessness! It’s hopeless.

We hope that he will not close his eyes and ears again and wait for the 2026 campaigns. And we hope that from now on, Hakainde and his team will devise their own programme instead of depending on the IMF prescribed ‘poison’ that is still chocking Zambians. We are yet to see how far this prescription takes this country.

Why use flawed laws to punish people, wonders Andyford Banda

Why use flawed laws to punish people, wonders Andyford Mayele Banda

President Edgar Lungu and family… Disclaimer: I have never ever met H.E. ECL on one on one basis for personal discussion. I have never ever met former first lady Esther Lungu in my life. I don’t have any personal relationship with any member of the family. I have never been a member of PF and never worked with them.

I have a little note though and these are my earnest feelings. Former first lady Madam Esther Lungu has been formally charged and arrested on among others counts the notorious theft of Motor Vehicle.

I can’t imagine what’s going on in the Lungu family. A wife, a woman is the pillar of the house. The question is did she really steal the vehicle or the flawed laws are being used for imingalato? Look people empathy is important. No one should be exempted from the law. But our laws are flawed in most cases and in politics these laws are being used to punish people. Why would Madam Esther Lungu stage a robbery to steal a car when her husband a former President is entitled to vehicles for the rest of his life? This is the same things I have said before, we are not different from the colonialists or apartheid regime leaders who created laws to punish people.

Now I am not saying these laws have been created now. But why behave like everyone using flawed laws to punish people? No, this is not right. Charge her with other things not theft of motor vehicle. No people. No this is not right. Esther Lungu despite whatever the Lungu family has done right or wrong has been our mother.

The only close association she has to politics is supporting her husband. No people. I am so touched that a former first lady like a reserved mother like Esther Lungu can be subjected to sleeping in cells on things that could have been discussed and resolved. Look why can’t we learn from the past that power is not permanent. Why is it that almost everyone who comes to power thinks that they can do as they wish?

OVER 500 NEW MEMBERS JOIN UPND ,CITING CDF AND FREE EDUCATION POLICY AS A MOTIVATION FACTOR

MAMBWE- The United Party for National Development in Mambwe District yesterday, witnessed a boost in its membership when more than five hundred new members from different wards joined the party citing Community Development Fund and Free Education policy as motivation factors.

While UPND members sang and danced to celebrate the boost in their membership, the new members coming from different backgrounds expressed their happiness and commitment to support UPND because its policies ,such as CDF has changed the face of their community while ,they termed free education policy as a household policy.

Ms Joyce Phiri, former PF member told the Falcon , that CDF made her and others change their allegiance to UPND because for the first time, their voices matters as they together discuss which projects to undertake to make their constituency a better place to live.

‘ Go to our Council, you will find the earth moving equipments bought using our CDF because we want our roads done before the onset of the rains, this has never happened, we used to wait for Lusaka people or wait for campaigns to ask for such things.” said Ms Phiri.

Mrs Chibwe who is in her late fifties, said the free education policy has touched her household because all her four children can now access education and this has given her hope that they will have a brighter future.

“ My children are all in school without creating a financial burden, I was struggling but now, I feel relieved , free education has touched my household including my brother and sisters they are so happy for me, “ said Ms Chibwe.

Mr Imenda in his welcoming remarks thanked the new members for supporting UPND because of it’s good policies aimed at making life better.

He appealed to the new members to participate in all party programmes because UPND was working towards empowering communities and creating opportunities for personal growth and community development.

Meanwhile Mr Imenda said he was happy of the efforts made in the implementation of the CDF projects but appealed to the Council to ensure that they work on the roads reported to be impassible during the rain season.

“ One of the Chiefs we visited said he was concerned about roads because they are impassable during rain season, you have shown us the earth moving equipment purchased, work on the roads before the onset of the rains.” Said Mr Imenda.

Katumbi withers political persecution ahead of nomination in DRC presidential race

Katumbi withers political persecution ahead of nomination in DRC presidential race

Democratic Republic of Congo opposition Together for Change leader Moise Katumbi is ready to file his nomination for President next month (September), despite enduring widespread persecution at the hands of the ruling party.

The local Independent Electoral Commission of Congo (CENI) has set September 2 to 23 as the period presidential candidates will file their nominations ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections slated for December 20, 2023. Former president Joseph Kabila, leader of the FCC and 2018 presumed winner Martin Fayulu, have technically boycotted from contesting the polls.

Kabila has opposed the composition of the CENI and the Constitution Court saying they were unconstitutional. As for Fayulu, he has said failure to subject the voter’s register to an independent audit will compromise the holding of a credible election. Yet Denis Kazadi Kadima, the chairman of the CENI has refused the international audit of the list of voters by an independent organisation.

Katumbi, however, has soldiered on while demanding an inclusive, free, fair transparent and credible election. The former Katanga governor has forged alliances with parliamentarian Delly Sesanga, Fayulu and former Prime Minister in the Kabila regime, Augustin Matata Mapon.

Apart from attempts to stop him from contesting the elections through a failed constitutional amendment, Katumbi’s residences have been raided, his aides thrown in prison and his party spokesperson recently assassinated. In May this year, Katumbi’s senior advisor Salomon Kalonda Della was picked up at Ndjili International Airport in Kinshasa while preparing to board a plane with the opposition leader.

A law requiring that both parents of presidential candidates be of Congolese heritage failed in parliament two years ago and its reintroduction has stalled after countrywide protests ensued. Although the government of President Felix Tshisekedi has publicly not supported the bill, indications are that it is being advanced by ruling party surrogates. He was seven days later charged with illegal possession of a firearm and schemes that bordered on attempts to overthrow the government. The firearm charge has since disappeared after it was discovered that the weapon in question was registered to the security detail of another opposition with the overthrow charges switched to supplying of release of classified information.

Katumbi’s other aide, Mike Mukebayi, is also in jail for allegedly preaching hate speech with another ally Franck Diongo of the Movement Lumumbist Party (MLP) who was recently released from prison on account of poor health having been nabbed for his association with the Katanga businessman.

Several other voices including journalists have been silenced ahead of the polls, but it is the death of Together for Change spokesman Cherubin Okende that left the nation gutted. Okende, a member of parliament, quit Tshisekedi’s government alongside Christian Mwando Simba and Veronica Kilumba in solidarity with Katumbi. The official was found dead in his car on the side road of a business Kinshasa highway less than 24 hours after he was kidnapped in the premises of the Constitutional Court.

Despite the blatant persecution at the hands of President Tshisekedi, Katumbi is determined to give the people of Congo an alternative at the polls.

“It’s important that the international community also takes a keen interest of what is happening in Congo so that we can have a credible election. The choice of the people must be respected. We are determined to go all that way. There’s no turning back for us because the people of Congo have asked us to make the difference,” he said in a recent interview.

Congolese are determined to vote but do not want a repeat of 2018 when the election was decided outside the ballot. Then CENI chairman-turned opposition leader Corneille Nangaa dropped a bombshell when he disclosed that President Tshisekedi did not win the polls but was a compromise choice.

ANC blocks SA public lecture on state of democracy in Zimbabwe and region

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula has blocked Zimbabwean academic Dr Ibbo Mandaza’s planned public lecture on the state of democracy in Zimbabwe and the region which was supposed to be hosted at Wits University’s O.R Tambo School of Leadership on the 7th of September.

The lecture was meant to take a close look at the state of democracy in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) reflecting on the recent disputed harmonised general elections held in Zimbabwe.

Mbalula, a close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF government, sent a letter to the university saying that ANC was “engaged in a number of delicate engagements regarding the situation in Zimbabwe.”

“We note that the OR Tambo School has advertised a public lecture to be delivered by Ibbo Mandaza on The State of Democracy in the SADC Region: A Reflection on the National Elections of Zimbabwe on Thursday, 7 September 2023 (invitation attached),” Mbalula said.

“The OR Tambo School of Leadership has a proud tradition of promoting vigorous debate within the ranks of the movement. This must be encouraged.

“Whilst we respect the institutional autonomy of the School, it is also true that, in the public mind, domestically and internationally, it is inextricably linked to the ANC.

“Furthermore, the lecture is billed as a collaborative effort between the School and the ANC Johannesburg Region. This clearly constitutes an ANC platform.

“At the moment the leadership of the ANC is engaged in a number of delicate engagements regarding the situation in Zimbabwe. In this context, a public lecture, at this time, on what is clearly an ANC platform, would complicate these initiatives.

“It is in this context that we have requested that the lecture should not proceed on Thursday, 7 September 2023.

“We invite you to engage with us further on the details of these matters, and the possibility of the lecture being held in future, in a different format, and on a different platform.”

Zimbabwe’s election held two weeks ago was discredited by international observers due to massive irregularities. Mnangagwa controversially won with 52,6% against main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) 44%.

Nigeria election tribunal upholds President Bola Tinubu’s victory

Nigeria’s Appeal Court has rejected challenges to Bola Tinubu’s narrow victory in February’s presidential election.

After an almost 10-hour verdict, judges said the petitions by his two main challengers were without merit.

Both Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party had alleged widespread fraud.

Despite the election challenge, Mr Tinubu was sworn into office on 29 May.

The election was the most fiercely contested since the end of military rule in 1999, with three strong candidates for the first time. Mr Tinubu won with 37% of votes cast, against 29% for Mr Abubakar and 25% for Mr Obi.

A presidential spokesman said President Tinubu welcomed the judgment “with an intense sense of solemn responsibility and preparedness to serve all Nigerians.”

“[It] reflects the continuing maturation of Nigeria’s legal system, and the advancement of Africa’s largest democracy at a time when our democratic system of government is under test in other parts of the continent,” Ajuri Ngelale said in a statement.

The country was tense before Wednesday’s ruling, with increased security in the capital, Abuja.

Despite warnings from authorities against demonstrations, various political groups gathered outside the courthouse, singing and dancing.

The ruling on the same day he marked 100 days in office will be a huge relief to President Tinubu who will now keep an eye on the Supreme Court where his opponents are likely to appeal against this judgement.

The Labour Party has rejected the ruling.

“We reject the outcome of the judgment in its entirety because justice was not served,” party spokesman Obiora Ifoh said in a statement quoted by local media.

But the unanimous verdict by the judges at the Appeal Court will fill Mr Tinubu with confidence. This was already on display as he was not even in the country for Wednesday’s ruling, travelling to India for the G20 summit.

Lead justice Haruna Tsammani, who read the verdict, said “the petitioners failed to prove allegations of corrupt practices and over-voting”.

Justice Tsammani also said that:

  • the petitioners failed to specify the polling units where they alleged that rigging took place
  • the petitioners failed to provide any credible evidence to prove their allegations of suppression of votes in their strongholds
  • the electoral commission was not bound to transmit results electronically
  • failure to upload the photographic copies of polling unit results in real time did not invalidate the election.

Sowetan newspaper says ANC stance on Zimbabwe putting South Africa in jeopardy

The decision by South African president Cyril Ramaphosa and his African National Congress (ANC) party to endorse the recently held elections in Zimbabwe which were discredited by international observers, has been described by the Sowetan newspaper as a move that is likely to put South Africa in jeopardy.

Zimbabwe’s 2023 plebiscite which saw the incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa winning with 52,6% was dismissed by almost all observers as not free and fair.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) observer mission led by Nevers Mumba from Zambia said the plebiscite fell short of the requirements of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the region.

But Ramaphosa and the ANC represented by its Secretary General Fikile Mbalula went all the way to congratulate Mnangagwa before they attended his inauguration in Harare on Monday.

Democratic Republic of Congo leader Felix Tshisekedi and Mozambique’s Felix Nyusi, who are also close allies of Mnangagwa and the Zanu-PF party also attended the inauguration.

South Africa has more than 1 million Zimbabweans who fled their country due to the socio-economic and political crisis under the Zanu-PF regime.

An opinion carried by the Sowetan newspaper on Wednesday articulated that the ANC’s move to support Mnangagwa’s controversial win would worsen the situation in Zimbabwe.

“Ramaphosa was in Harare for the swearing-in ceremony of Mnangagwa for another five-year term as president.

“The Crocodile, as our neighbouring statesman is known, ‘won’ an election held last month but the entire charade has been derided all-round for the sham it was. Even the usually pliant Southern African Development Community observer team gave the thumbs down,” the newspaper argued.

“Only Ramaphosa and his ANC gave a loud approval while the rest of the leaders in the region tellingly kept quiet. Well, silence in the face of a skewed fight in which the weak is being bludgeoned mercilessly, is an endorsement of the evil perpetuated.

“The ANC is irrationally wedded to Struggle inter-party loyalties that no longer serve the greater good of the nation, and the entire region.

“But the reality on the ground is a totally different kettle of fish, which requires someone to clean up the mess. Cue in Ramaphosa’s minister of home affairs Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, who is often left holding the baby.”

The newspaper further stated that the illegal immigration of “semi-skilled” Zimbabweans into South Africa is likely to continue at unprecedented levels leading to xenophobic violence.

“In the meantime, there’s no stemming the human tidal wave gushing past Limpopo, looking for a slice of a cake that is fast shrinking, even for locals. Employment figures in SA make for a sorry reading, even for highly skilled job seekers stand little chance of employment.

“But the vast majority of those scaling the wall into SA are semi-skilled and only add to the competition for menial jobs that will only increase the tension between competitors and fuel resentment.

“It will become worse still leading into elections next year as politicians seeking votes will recklessly pour petrol into the fire.

“The ambivalence and paradox of our government’s policy towards Zimbabwe cannot go on like this unless SA doesn’t care for the consequences that have previously included matters getting out of control leading to xenophobic violence,” read the editorial.

‘World will not end if Hichilema does not attend Mnangagwa inauguration’- Professor Jonathan Moyo

“It will not be the start or the end of the world if Zambia’s President Haikainde Hichilema does not attend tomorrow’s inauguration,” stated Professor Jonathan Moyo in his recent article.

“Whether President Hakainde Hichilema attends the inauguration tomorrow is entirely up to him, no big deal. The proposition that the inauguration will have no legitimacy if he does not attend is wholly absurd and preposterous.

“The Zambian President is only that, the President of the Republic of Zambia. He is not the President of SADC, not even the President of SADC’s Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security, but only the current Chairperson of the Organ.

Yes, of course, it will not be the start or end of the world if President Hichilema do or does not attend President Mnangagwa’s swearing-in ceremony. Only a fool would suggest otherwise.

Indeed, it will not matter one bit if all or none of the other SADC leaders attend the ceremony.

“It’s now an open public secret that, as the Chairperson of the Organ, President Hichilema appointed Dr Nevers Mumba in bad faith to head the SADC Election Observation Mission [SEOM] which made an outrageous Preliminary Statement on Zimbabwe’s 2023 harmonised general election which is full of untested hearsay, has an inconclusive conclusion, which is not supported by the statement’s hearsay narrative, and makes recommendations that are not in any way related to its scurrilous conclusion,” continued Professor Moyo, finally getting to the meat of his bitterness against President Hichilema.

Professor Jonathan Moyo has been fuming and frothing about the SEOM’s report ever since its release. The report state obvious things like the failure by ZEC to produce something even as basic as a verified voters’ roll, the widespread intimidation, etc.

SADC had known about all these flaws and illegalities all along and hence the reason why the regional body wanted Zimbabwe’s 2013 elections postponed until the reforms addressing these concerns were implemented. Sadly, Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC leaders ignored the warning and participated in the 2013 elections with no reforms.

Zanu PF went on to rig the 2013 elections and SADC, in sheer despair, went on to grant the vote rigging Zanu PF political legitimacy.

Initially, Tsvangirai and company vowed they would not participate in future elections without first implementing the reforms. Greed got the better of them and they participated in the 2018 elections with not even a token reform in place. SADC, once again turned a blind eye to all the glaring flaws and illegalities and granted Zanu PF legitimacy.

Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friend and the rest of the opposition decided to participate in these 2023 elections knowing fully well the process is flawed, “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw”, as David Coltart, CCC Treasurer General and soon to be crowned Mayor of Bulawayo, admitted in his book. They also knew participating would give Zanu PF legitimacy. And still they soldiered on for the same reasons they had failed to implement even one reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU – greed and breath-taking incompetence.

Professor Jonathan Moyo, President Mnangagwa and many in the SADC region including Chamisa and his CCC friends, expected Dr Nevers Mumba and his fellow SEOM members to follow the now well trodden path of seeing no evil, hearing no evil and saying no evil and thus endorse the 2023 as “substantially free and fair”.

SEOM condemned the elections as flawed and illegal and, per se, cannot produce a legitimate government was totally unexpected. Everyone knew the process is flawed and illegal and SEOM was supposed to ignore it!

Well the die has been cast, the gene is out of the bottle, SADC’s own election team has admitted the elections were flawed and illegal; the truth is out and it cannot be denied or put back in the bottle. Many wanted Zanu PF to continue rigging the elections and granted legitimacy regardless for their own selfish reasons.

For Zanu PF rigging the elections was the only sure way for the regime to retain its iron grip on power. After 43 years of enjoying absolute power and all the benefits that brings Mnangagwa and company are addicted to power, giving it up has become unthinkable.

For Nelson Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends they failed to implement even one reform during the GNU. They have since given up on reforms and settled for participating in flawed elections for whatever spoils of power they can force from Zanu PF. Zanu PF has had to given up some gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate for the sake of getting some political legitimacy.

SA’s ANC ruling party vowed to grant vote rigging Zanu PF political legitimacy to ensure there is no regime change in Zimbabwe. ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, like Professor Jonathan Moyo have accused President Hichilema and those seeking free, fair and credible elections in Zimbabwe of seeking regime change for the purpose of removing Zanu PF and all liberation war founded party from office. Of course this is nonsense.

The idea that Zanu PF in Zimbabwe or ANC in SA, etc. have a divine right to rig elections to guarantee their stay in right is what is “wholly absurd and preposterous”! The people of Zimbabwe’s right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country is the supreme right here that must never ever be compromised or curtailed.

The right thing for President Hichilema, the rest of the SADC leaders and Zimbabwe’s own corrupt and incompetent opposition to do is stand up for the rule of law and the common people’s right to free and fair elections and refuse to attend Mnangagwa’s inauguration. Even if President Hichilema and a few others leaders attend the ceremony, the Mnangagwa presidency is still illegitimate!

Zimbabwe is a failed state, after 43 years of being stuck with this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF regime complete with its entourage of corrupt and utterly useless opposition parties, the country is desperate for a way out of this hell-hole. Stopping Zanu PF rigging the elections is the key to getting out of this hell.

Dr Mumba’s report has forced SADC to face up the reality that Zanu PF has stayed in power these last 43 years by rigging elections. Denying Zanu PF legitimacy following the rigged 23 August elections will force Zimbabwe into a new GNU so the democratic reforms, which should have been implemented in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, can finally be implemented.

How can implementing the reforms to guarantee free, fair and credible and thus cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance be a bad thing? Indeed, defending Dr Nevers Mumba’s SEOM report is the only thing worth dying for right now!

It is my distinguished honour and privilege to be addressing you my fellow Countrymen and Women as well as friends of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe at this auspicious occasion. Allow me, on behalf of the people of Zimbabwe, my Party ZANU PF, and indeed on my own behalf and that of my family, to express my deep gratitude for the kind messages of congratulations we have received following our elections.

In the same spirit, I warmly welcome the various delegations, from the SADC region, Africa, and beyond, who are joining us today for this inauguration ceremony. Your presence attests to the long-standing solidarity and support, Zimbabwe has enjoyed from the progressive members of the comity of nations which date back to the days of our protracted 16-year war of liberation for our Independence and freedom.

The 2023 Harmonised General Elections have come and gone. I once again thank you, my fellow Zimbabweans, for dutifully preserving and safeguarding our national unity and peace, before, during and after the elections. Ndinokutendai mhuri ye Zimbabwe. Ngiyalibonga muli yeZimbabwe.

As Zimbabwe, we have demonstrated that we are a mature democracy. The people of this precious nation, which is born out of the sacred blood of those who fought for our independence, freedom, democracy and indeed the right to vote, have spoken.

Our unparalleled conduct before, during and after the electoral processes is praiseworthy and will be an everlasting standard and benchmark as we continue to deepen and entrench constitutional democracy in our country. There are no losers, but a victory for the people of Zimbabwe against neo-colonial and hegemonic tendencies of our country’s detractors and those who believe that “might is right”.

Counter-revolutionary forces and their proxies will never prevail in our free mother country, Zimbabwe.

Let us now look ahead with unflinching focus and determination, emboldened by our rich history as a resilient, warrior people.

We continue to defy the onslaught of the illegal sanctions as well as the negative narratives peddled by those bent on stunting our country’s development.

Our strength in our diverse cultures, capacities and competencies has seen us realise unprecedented successes towards Vision 2030.

Zimbabwe is surely on the rise. Our national development philosophy, Nyika inovakwa, igotongwa, igonamatigwa, nevene vayo, Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo, shall continue to be the beacon of our pro-people policies, anchored on Pan-African values and norms. This philosophy sums up our sovereignty as well as the collective duty and obligation we have to develop our country and the African continent.

Fellow Compatriots;

Today, I have once again taken an oath as a humble servant leader and President, committed to wholeheartedly serving you all, the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe.

Under this renewed mandate, I have re-committed to continue faithfully upholding and defending our sacred national Constitution and laws, with integrity and impartiality, leaving no one and no place behind.

I stand before you my fellow Zimbabweans, at this historic moment of our nation as President of all Zimbabweans, regardless of tribe, religion, colour, creed, or political persuasion. I am honoured by the trust and confidence you have reposed in me to continue to serve in the office of President. Through your democratic vote, you have renewed and extended my mandate and that of our colossal revolutionary mass Party, ZANU PF.

I offer to you, individually and collectively, unity, love, oneness and brotherhood, as the people of the great, unitary and independent state of Zimbabwe.

Fellow Compatriots, Comrades and Friends;

My new Government will deliver on the promises we have made to you. The transformation of the living standards of our people, especially those in rural communities, will be accelerated, while the concerns of those in urban areas will not be neglected.

Responsive policies, projects and programmes, which begun during the first term of my Presidency are on course to lift many more people, out of poverty and into prosperity.

The hurdles such as the illegal, heinous sanctions and machinations of our detractors must be knocked out of our way through unity of purpose, hard honest work, innovativeness, resilience, focus and determination. Together as a united people, all challenges can be overcome; brick by brick, stone upon stone, and step by step.

The ongoing success milestones in the agriculture sector will be consolidated during this new term under my leadership. To date, we are food secure in both maize and wheat. All the agriculture sub-sectors have realised unprecedented growth. I commend our farmers as well as stakeholders in the agriculture sector for these achievements. This is indisputable evidence of the success of our Land Reform Programme and the responsive pro-people policies of the Second Republic.

Going forward, my new Government will prioritise guaranteeing this momentum through household and national food security.

The construction of dams, accelerated irrigation development, coupled with the ongoing borehole drilling programme, in every village and school, is set to insulate our agriculture sector from climate change induced weather fluctuations.

Vulnerable districts and areas are now the critical focus.

Rural Development will be implemented at full scale through robust rural agriculture industrialisation models.

This will result in our 35,000 villages country-wide, having productive agro-based companies, owned and run by the benefiting communities. The programme will see a multi-fold increase in rural incomes and sustainable livelihoods.

Concurrent with this thrust is the setting up of rural industries and systems designed to process, value add, beneficiate as well as export agricultural produce. Untapped opportunities exist for more of our people to penetrate the global markets and value chains through quality ‘Made in Zimbabwe’ goods and products.

The success of our agriculture sector has ripple effects to our agro-based manufacturing sector and Industrial base.

The factories that we all desire can only succeed if there is the requisite through-put from agriculture and mining, among other sectors. Therefore, I call upon us to respect each other as a united people, no matter where we live or our economic activities.

Comrades and Friends;

The past five years have delivered valuable lessons on our intricate economy, especially the fact that a national currency that is supported by a vibrant productive sector is indispensable to sustainable development. No country has ever developed without its own currency. Further, we can only develop and grow the economy based on our own internal resources.

I urge us all to believe in ourselves and our abilities, as Zimbabweans and Africans. Development and national prosperity based on what we have is more sustainable and durable. We must take pride in who we are and what we can do for ourselves.

The numerous mineral resources in our country must be sustainably exploited to leap-frog our industrialisation and development. The lives of our citizens and the fortunes of our country as a whole must be improved. We expect nothing less.

Our economy must realise maximum benefits from increased beneficiation and value addition. As such, my new Administration, through the Responsible Mining Initiative, will ensure greater stewardship over our finite natural resources. These must benefit both present and future generations.

Riding on our abundant resources, as well as skilled and hard-working people, Zimbabwe is poised to take its place as a competitive manufacturing jurisdiction.

I exhort industry and commerce stakeholders to be patriotic and always seek an intricate balance between profit and the plight of our people. Profiteering, opportunistic tendencies and greed, will not move our country forward.

Together, let us grow our country’s manufacturing base, to use, consume and wear what we produce.

The new Government shall continue to foster a predictable business environment, where capital is safe. Those who want to invest in our country are welcome, based on respect and mutual benefits, for shared prosperity.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen;

The modernisation of our national infrastructure, utilities and amenities will continue unabated. Transport inter-connectivity within provinces and further linking us to the rest of the SADC region and the Continent are a priority.

The internal capacities and local skills in road construction that have been developed over the last five years will be deployed to further modernise our road network.

Agreements and investments to modernise, repair and expand our rail system will be consummated to allow urgent revitalisation of the sector.

Water is life and a solution not only to sustainable food security and sovereignty but also for the water and sanitation needs of our fast growing urban populations. Gwayi-Shangani and Kunzvi Dams, which are set to meet the needs of Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan Provinces, are scheduled to be completed soon.

During the last five year-term, my Administration delivered energy self-suffiency to our country. Courtesy of our comprehensive, strategic partnership with the People’s Republic of China, Hwange Unit 7 and Unit 8 are now on stream.

We will now move on to upgrade Hwange Unit 1 to Unit 6, among other national strategic power generation stations.

Additional work is continuing towards broadening our energy mix, inclusive of renewable energy, to increase the total energy output, in tandem with the demand created by our fast growing economy.

The recovery and growth of the tourism sector in the post pandemic era, is testimony that Zimbabwe is a safe and competitive tourism destination. The joint marketing of brand Zimbabwe with both regional and continental partnerships is critical to sustain growth in the sector.

The economic role of SMEs, women and youth, as key players in our quest to realise Vision 2030 is set to receive due attention.

My new Government shall further consolidate the achievements in the health and education sectors for quality health delivery and education, especially for those in our country-side. Resources will be availed to equip and modernise the numerous schools and clinics constructed during the last five years. The requisite resources will be channelled towards the commercialisation of start-ups developed in our Innovation Hubs and Heritage-Based Education 5.0. Industrial Parks under

Matters related to housing delivery, water sanitation, among other social amenities remain key to the modern, empowered, and prosperous Zimbabwe we all want and deserve. I call upon those elected at the local government levels to wholeheartedly serve the people of our great country.

Our citizens, especially those in urban areas have endured poor service delivery for far too long. Rate payers deserve hard working and competent local authorities who will ensure that our towns and cities

regain their long-lost pride and lustre, through world class service delivery.

Going into the future, those in the arts, sports and creative cultural industries will be supported to express their talents. However, the fraternity is called upon to promote and protect our Zimbabwean values, African culture as well as our Christian-oriented family traditions and norms. Never use the arts or media to promote self-hate and divisions in our nation.

Meanwhile, I express my profound gratitude to our traditional leaders, who are the custodians of our land and culture, together with the religious community who joined the crusade to preach peace, love and harmony in our nation. The institution of traditional leadership and freedom of worship will continue to be protected by my new Government.

Comrades and Friends;

Under my leadership and the new ZANU PF Government, democracy, good governance, the rule of law and the politics of tolerance will be entrenched, in line with the spirit and letter of our sacred national Constitution and laws.

We make no apologies for entrenching and protecting our unique Zimbabwean values, cultures and norms. In this regard, I challenge us all to remain Zimbabwean and African, in both thoughts and deeds.

Zimbabwe is a sovereign state and “a friend to all and enemy of none”. Our membership and engagement within SADC, the African Union and United Nations and other countries in the comity of nations remain guided by the principles of mutual respect and the sovereign equality of nations, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

The undermining of our national institutions and laws will not be condoned, under whatever guise. No country or group of persons should disregard the sovereign decisions and views of the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe.

We will never be second class citizens in our own country. We stand ready to welcome those nations who want to work with the new ZANU PF Government to build lasting partnerships to make the world a better place.

We look forward to joining both traditional and emerging global institutions who accept our hand of friendship.

The architecture and composition of the United Nations Security Council must be reformed to reflect democracy at a global level as well as the equality of nations.

Our country is committed to playing its part for the realisation of global peace and security, anchored on dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflict.

Fellow Zimbabweans; Comrades and Friends;

In concluding, allow me to once again commend, you the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe, for the successful, watershed, peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible Harmonised General Elections.

We have shamed our detractors who predicted and clandestinely financed mayhem, expecting the worst from us, before, during and after our polls.

The will of the Zimbabwean people has been expressed and must be respected.

In unity we have defended this sacred land, bequeathed to us by our great heroes and heroines.

They paid for the democracy, independence and sovereignty we are enjoying today, with their precious lives. This thunderous victory for our sovereignty, dignity and right to be masters of our own destiny is in their honour.

In the enduring spirit of unity and peace that characterised this past election, I once again call upon all Zimbabweans to say no to violence, tribalism, regionalism, hate speech and other divisive tendencies. Peace, love, harmony and tolerance are in our DNA as a people.

Let us now turn our focus back to our collective duty and obligation to build, modernise and industrialise our country.

The quality of life of our people, from Zambezi to Limpopo, from Plumtree to Mutare must be improved. That duty lies with us all, as Zimbabweans, both here at home and in the Diaspora.

No one else will build our country. No one should ever come from elsewhere to govern our country.

We have the primary responsibility to offer supplications and prayers for our country. We must do all these ourselves. This is who we are, as the great people of Zimbabwe.

Nyika inovakwa, igotongwa, igonamatigwa, nevenevayo, Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo.

Under the new ZANU PF Government and my leadership, rest assured that you, my fellow Zimbabweans and compatriots; boys and girls at home and abroad, shall continue to be at the centre of all our policies, projects and programmes.

We remain, forever; a Government from the people; by the people and for the people. The future of our great motherland, Zimbabwe, is bright.

Long live our freedom.

Long live our democracy and independence.

Long live our unity and peace.

God bless Zimbabwe. God bless you all.

I thank you.

NGOCC ENGAGES FAZ OVER SEXUAL HARASMENT CASES WITHIN COPPER QUEENS

The Non-governmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) convened a crucial meeting at Football House with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to address the alarming allegations of sexual harassment surrounding female football players.

The discussion extended beyond harassment, encompassing a broad spectrum of issues affecting women in football.

The meeting held on Tuesday, aimed to foster collaboration between the two organizations to protect and promote the rights of women and girls in the sports industry.

This gathering was prompted by recurring reports of sexual harassment involving Zambian female footballers, particularly during the recently concluded Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.

The NGOCC delegation included Patricia MMubanga, President of the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), along with Whitney Mulobela, OB Coordinator for Communication, Advocacy, and Networking, and Samuel C.C Mwanakatwe, Programs Officer and Knowledge Management.

However, during the meeting, Anne Mbewe Anamela, Executive Director of NGOCC, stressed the importance of creating a safe environment where female athletes can openly voice their challenges within the organization. She emphasized the need to break the culture of silence, particularly among women and girls, who may fear embarrassment or victim-blaming.

In response, FAZ’s Head of Administration, Colonel Andrew Siame, pointed out the structural changes FAZ has implemented to support women in football. He highlighted the creation of positions, such as the National Women’s Coordinator, specifically dedicated to addressing the welfare of women in football.

Beyond sexual harassment, both organizations discussed how sports, especially football, can play a role in combating gender-based violence (GBV) in the country. Grace Sinkamba, NGOCC Board Chairperson, emphasized the importance of eliminating GBV to ensure that female national team selections are based on merit rather than submission to harassment.

Siame expressed FAZ’s commitment to improving women’s football welfare and its willingness to collaborate with NGOCC and the broader women’s movement to integrate gender equality into football.

While the meeting aimed to address the issue of sexual harassment and promote awareness against GBV in football, it also provided an opportunity for NGOCC to congratulate the women’s National Team for their outstanding performance on the global stage, representing Zambia with pride.

Decaying corpse in Kasenengwa shop sparks unrest

THE DISCOVERY of decaying corpse in the shop of a local businessman currently in police detention for murder sparked violent scenes in Kasenengwa District of Eastern Province on Monday.

What began as a disturbing odor turned into a nightmarish scene as residents descended into chaos following the shocking discovery of a decomposed body inside a local shop.

The shop in question belonged to Tractor Shanzi, a local businessman who had recently been apprehended by police on charges of murder.

According to sources, a group of residents became suspicious of an increasingly foul smell emanating from Shanzi’s shop, raising concerns that it might be a dead rat.

However, Some brave Easterners who thought a Mbeba (mouse) had fallen in the laps, were shocked after their concerns turned into sheer horror when they spotted flies swarming around the premises.

One of the witnesses, Elidah Banda recounted her experience to Zambia Daily Mail saying, “On Sunday, there was just a bad smell, and we were suspecting that it could have been a dead rat in the shop until today (yesterday) when we saw flies all over Mr. Shanzi’s shop.”

“That’s when we informed the market chairman to ask the wife of the owner of the shop to open it so that they could check the shop,” explained Banda.

However, the market chairman refused to open the shop without the presence of the police.

Later, when law enforcement arrived, Shanzi’s wife was asked to open the shop. To everyone’s horror, a decomposed body was discovered inside, but it could not be immediately identified.

A resident named Alick Zulu claimed that the deceased was Luckson Nyirenda, a motorbike rider from Chipata’s Chimwemwe area.

Zulu mentioned that Nyirenda had been seen playing pool at the trading center just a week ago with Shanzi’s son, adding, “A week or two ago, they were together here playing pool, and since then, Mr. Shanzi’s son is nowhere to be seen.”

Following the retrieval of the body by the police, tensions reached a breaking point, leading some residents to take matters into their own hands.

A mob descended on Shanzi’s shop, demolishing it in an act of collective anger and frustration.

Eastern Province police commanding officer, Limpo Liywalii confirmed receiving the report.

The informant told the police of the dead man found in Shanzi’ shop.

Shanzi’ had been in custody for over two months on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.

UPND And President Hichilema’s Failures Accumulating At A Faster Speed- Venus Msyani

UPND AND PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S FAILURES ACCUMULATING AT A FASTER SPEED

By Venus N Msyani
UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema’s failures have accumulated to the point it is no longer easy to agree on which one is the biggest

Zambians are debating as UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema’s failures continue to accumulate. The pile has reached a point where it is no longer easy to agree on which failure is the biggest.

To some, monthly fuel price adjustment is the new dawn administration’s biggest failure. To others, the high cost of living, while others think drifting away from promises is the biggest failure.

Many other failures make the debate even more interesting. Failure to move to State House is on a list. President Hakainde Hichilema is hesitating to move to State House.

He commutes from his private home in New Kasama to State House every day, which has added a burden on the government budget. Currently, Zambia is in bad shape economically. Every dollar is needed. Hichilema refusal to move to State House means instead of the country saving the whole dollar, it spends some cents on Hichilema’s commute.

Failure to lead by example in the fight against corruption is another big one. To date, Hichilema has not publicly declared assets and liabilities. To many, this overshadows all other failures.

The fight against corruption is Hichilema’s top agenda. He started with full force, but now he has softened. Every time he tries to be tough in the fight, it reminds people of his failure to publicly declare assets.

Another failure that cannot be ignored is waiting to be reminded to act on laws suffocating Zambia’s democracy. The Public Order Act is as bad as the Defamation of the President law was, but still here. Hichilema appears to be waiting to be reminded to act on it.

He is busy holding rallies in Lusaka and around the country in the name of commissioning and launching development projects, while the opposition is being denied a permit to gather. It cannot be concluded the president is not aware it is a threat to the country’s democracy.

Afraid Zambians will have to go through the same struggle they went through on the Defamation of the President law for the Public Order Act to go. Some may disagree, but very true. If it were not the voice of the people, the Defamation of the President law would still be here.

The arrest and detention procedure is another Hichilema administration’s biggest failures. People continue to spend more than 48 hours in police custody, which is against the law. The same was happening under the previous government. Under the new dawn administration, it has reached a different level.

People are being arrested in abduction style. Police pick suspects up and take them to unknown places. Family and friends have to search for a picked suspect in different police locations until they find him or her. People without families and friends to search for them may be disappearing just like that.
Recently the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) party leader Sean Tembo was arrested for hate speech. It took about 24 hours for the family and friends to locate where he was being kept.

All these failures make it no longer easy for Zambians to agree on which one is the biggest failure. And the point is, if President Hichilema has failed he should step down.

HH’S UTTERANCES ARE NOT PRESIDENTIAL-MPNVP

HH’S UTTERANCES ARE NOT PRESIDENTIAL!

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

The recent remarks characterizing the speech of the Republican President nowadays are not only inappropriate but do not befit the Head of State who is the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces.

Those surrounding the Head of State must quickly sit him down and urgently admonish him to be mindful of what he utters to the public because of the detrimental effects and irreversible consequences that goes with every statement issued. We have always mentioned that anything said by the Republican President becomes a policy and must be implemented by the Law Enforcement Agencies.

Every statement issued by the seating Head of State carries an intonation of seriousness and no one must take such lightly. No wonder the Head of State must always be sober minded and should avoid succumbing to emotions. More importantly, the President must be reminded that he is the Father of the Nation and everyone looks up to him. The Head of State must therefore have a big heart and should be willing to accommodate any situation.

Yesterday during the public rally held in Kanyama Compound, President Hakainde Hichilema loosely challenged the immediate past Head of State Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu not to dare him at all! In his bulky outburst he intimated the following sentiments; –

(1) Since the PF is busy regrouping, he will make sure that he incampacitate them and cramp them down using all possible means at his disposal.

(2) The former President will never ascend back into power.

(3) There is literally no vacancy left for the Office of President in this Country.

(4) The previous administration killed Lawrence Banda and others.

(5) Allowing the previous Government getting back into power is as good as reintroducing anarchy, violence, illegalities and irrational killings in the Country.

(6) President Hakainde Hichilema will now use unknown techniques in order to finish off the opposition.

(7) If possible the entire UPND Government will go for the throat of the former Head of State.

(😎 The general behaviour of the opposition can be described as Foolishness and Absurd.

(9) That the President is aware about those with intentions of conducting a coup d’etat in the Country.

The above utterances, statements and expressions were mentioned by His Excellency the Republican President himself using a local languages. (Nyanja & Bemba). Undeniably, the language used by the President does not befit the decorum of the Office he occupies. Such expressions undoubtedly amount to Hate Speech and qualify to be categorized as defamatory, malicious, derogatory, sarcastic, humiliating, contemptuous, unwholesome and demeaning.

It is not only unheard-of from the seating Head of State sounding vulgar and provocative against the former President and the opposition at large. From the foregoing, we can conclusively say that the Republican President has already instructed the Zambia Police Command to ensure that the former first lady Madam Esther Lungu is implicated and make sure that the sixth President is connected to some wrongdoing. As we are documenting this article the former first lady is scheduled to appear before the Zambia Police Station in Ibex at 10 hours today.

It is also possible concluding that the Law Enforcement Agencies are acting under the strict instructions from the Commander In Chief himself and it is extremely difficult detaching the President in all Court cases going on involving his political contenders.

In conclusion, we wish to express our displeasure and sadness for the manifestations of bitterness, irrationalities and the extent of irritation being echoed by President Hakainde Hichilema. No one must trivialize such utterances for they boarder on the National Security, Wellbeing of the nation, Peace, Harmony and Tranquility of the Nation.

HOW HICHILEMA HAS GIVEN AWAY ZAMBIA’S CROWN IN MINING FOR NOTHING- Fred M’membe

HOW HICHILEMA HAS GIVEN AWAY ZAMBIA’S CROWN IN MINING FOR NOTHING

Yesterday, Mr Hakainde Hichilema officially gave KCM back to Vedanta, a company whose owner mocked all of us Zambians for selling him our crown jewel of the Zambian mines for nothing.

His actions were particularly painful given that KCM retrenched thousands of workers, withdrew ZCCM social benefits for workers, introduced precarious subcontracting, refused to pay taxes and irresponsibly polluted the rivers on which the poor people of Chingola depend for drinking water and agriculture.

Vedanta’s human rights and environmental record is also a matter of great concern and a subject of global protests. This is the company that Mr Hichilema has given the company back to.

We agree that the liquidation process by the PF was flawed. However, it was justified given the behaviour of the company. Vedanta had a legal right to the company, but lost the social licence. The government should have leveraged this advantage to negotiate for more shares in KCM and the departure of Vedanta. This has not happened and will not happen.

However, this is unsurprising. On August 7 at Parklands Secondary School in Kitwe, Edgar Lungu accused Mr Hichilema of receiving bribes from Vedanta to support his campaigns, and of promising to give KCM back to Vedanta. Soon after forming the government, Mr Hichilema withdrew the matter from the courts and made endless promises about how and when they would announce the way forward.

Aware of the resistance from the public, opposition leaders and experts in mining studies, Mr Hichilema delayed the handover ceremony in the name of protracted negotiations. In reality, I would argue, there were no protracted negotiations but a strategic delay, as some experts have argued, to create enough hopelessness, anxiety, and uncertainty while presenting Vedanta as the only alternative.

Realising the arrogance of Mr Hichilema, the unions that forcefully supported KCM liquidation under the PF, gave in to Vedanta’s promises and began campaigning for Vedanta’s return. The question was no longer about the bad things that KCM under Vedanta did, but when the government would hand over the company to Vedanta. Some churches and youths amplified these calls on various radio platforms, including organised protests that were warmly welcomed by Mr Hichilema and the state-owned media at the expense of the anti-Vedanta protestors.

All this culminated in what we witnessed yesterday, the handover of KCM to Vedanta. This is a reckless and highly irresponsible decision. We cannot handle a company that in 2000 had estimated reserves of 280 million MT at Konkola, with an estimated productive lifespan of over 50 years, and in excess of over 53.9 million MT reserves at Nchanga Mine. With these kinds of resources, we do not need to postpone our debt to the future generation through debt restructuring.
Today, Vedanta is promising: US$1 billion investment in KCM development, US$250 million payment to all local creditors, US$20 million investment into the local community (CSR) every year through a special purpose vehicle¬ – a community trust, 20 percent increase in salaries for employees, and a one-off K2,500 payment to all employees.
Why now, after Vedanta failed to fulfil its commitment to inject US$397 million into KCM as FDI, but instead went on to use all the funds it generated within KCM towards capital projects, depriving the company of the necessary funds for operations and maintenance? This is the same company that bragged about making an easy profit of US$500 million each year from KCM, the mine purchased for a mere US$25 million while declaring losses every year, and refusing to pay taxes.
This is the same company that concentrated on the surface plant concentrator to process seven million tons of ore per annum it did not produce but purchased from other countries, effectively changing the philosophy of the business entirely from “mining” into a “treatment facility”. This is the same company that changed the design of the mine by positioning the shaft in the wrong place.

But that’s not all. This is the same company that led KCM into high indebtedness and the threat of insolvency. The total liability of the company as of 30 September 2013, stood at US$1.567 billion, exceeding its current assets by US$123 million. It was also under the threat of receivership from Standard Bank for defaulting on its US$700 million loan. Unconcerned, in September 2011, Vedanta prematurely recalled the US$500 million loan it had given to KCM earlier, which was supposed to have been repaid in 2012.

This is the same company that frustrated the government’s Business Improvement Plan (BIP) to increase production from 132,318 tonnes of finished copper in 2013, to 178,994 tonnes by 2017, resulting in a further decline in production to 86,585 tonnes.

Today, this is the company that Mr Hichilema has given back the crown jewel of our mines to amidst an escalating high cost of living. This has happened at a time when the promised price reduction of mealie-meal from ZMK150 to ZMK50 has culminated in more than ZMK300 per 25 kg bag; fertiliser, fuel, and so on.

We are saddened by this reckless decision and we want Zambians to ask Mr Hichilema the following simple questions:

  • Whose interests are you serving?
  • To what extent can you argue that Mr Lungu was wrong?
  • Why have the so-called negotiations been silent when you promised transparency?

HICHILEMA’S NO PLAN ON HIGH PRICES OF MEALIE MEAL WORRYING – MSONI

HICHILEMA’S NO PLAN ON HIGH PRICES OF MEALIE MEAL WORRYING – MSONI

By Fox Reporter
ALL Peoples Congress leader Nasson Msoni he is worried about President Hakainde Hichilema’s failure to give an outright plan on how he will reduce mealie meal prices and make them affordable for Zambians.

Msoni says what is more worrying is his hunger to address the available and affordability of mealie meal in neighbouring countries rather than Zambia.

The APC president, further, says what is more disturbing and shocking is President Hichilema’s appetite to blame others rather than taking responsibility.

“Mr.Hichilema’s rantings on the high cost of mealie meal is worrying. He should be the last person to cast aspersions or accuse other people of being responsible for the high cost of mealie meal in the Country,” he said.

Msoni says, “His lies are striking and a serious source of concern for all of us. It is Mr Hichilema himself who told us that he was exporting Maize to Kenya, Tanzania and now to Congo DRC. He told us that the contract was for $15 million dollars. This consignment is obviously huge and is bound to cause all kinds of distortions on the local market.”

He said counsel to President Hichilema over what he calls reckless selling of maize to other country was not heeded to.

Msoni says hunger and high cost of food in the country was chocking and most Zambians are going to bed on an empty stomach.

“We had counseled him on the dangers of recklessly exporting the mealie meal and the Maize. As usual he didn’t heed to our counsel. The high cost of mealie meal has nothing to do with the previous government but everything to do with his greediness and the shameless pursuit for profits at the expense of the suffering majority Zambians,” he said.

Msoni has since asked President Hichilema to resign.

“The only thing for Mr Hichilema to do if he has failed is to resign. What he promised Zambians has clearly not materialized.”

The Out Of Court Settlement Of The Konkola Copper Mine Investment Standoff

THE OUT OF COURT SETTLEMENT OF THE KONKOLA COPPER MINE INVESTMENT STANDOFF

Lusaka… Wednesday September 6, 2023

The Inter-Africa Governance Network (AFRINET) welcomes the handing over of Konkola Copper Mine to Vedanta Resources Limited by the Government of the Republic of Zambia making the long anticipated resolution of the Government – Vedanta standoff that protracted since the takeover of the mine by the previous administration of the Patriotic Front in 2019.

AFRINET, a dialogue platform in the Social, Economic and Political governance arena of public life is extremely pleased that the standoff has been brought to a logical finality in the interest of optimum production at the mine.

In this regard AFRINET commends both the Government administration of President Hakainde HICHILEMA and the collective management of
Vedanta Resources Limited for the decision to resolve the standoff through an out of Court settlement, the decision has saved time and resources on both parties.

As such, going forward both the Government and Vedanta Resources Limited have learnt some lessons regards the need for mutual dialogue because out of this standoff none of the parties has benefited, on the contrary both have undeniably lost revenue.

As AFRINET we are confident and expectant of the positive impact on both the Copperbelt and national economy the commitment of Vedanta Resources Limited to its investment expansion through the capitalisation of Konkola Copper
Mine to the tune of US$ 1 Billion over a stretch of one year, US$ 220 Million payment owed to contractors and suppliers, 20% salary
increment to the employees across the board, the retention of 10,000 direct workers and the US$ 20 Million annual expenditure on Corporate Social Responsibility.

Lastly and more importantly, we commend the Mines Unions of Zambia, Mines Suppliers and Contractors Associations and other relevant stakeholders for holding the patience of the affected workers and the communities Konkola Copper Mine is operating and further urge them to collaborate in the quick return of Konkola Copper Mine to optimum productivity.

Furthermore, AFRINET implores the relevant stakeholders to exercise some patience, flexibility and Industrial harmony towards the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mine Investment Holding and Vedanta Resources Limited as they collaborate in the actualization of their individual commitment and obligation in returning Konkola Copper Mine to full production.

SA opposition warns of Zimbabweans mass exodus following disputed elections, calls for upholding of SADC observer mission poll findings

South African opposition Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader Mmusi Maimane has warned of a mass impending exodus from Zimbabwe if the SADC observer mission election findings are not upheld.

Maimane, who was commenting on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s attendance at Mnangagwa’s inauguration said there is a need to uphold sovereignty and democratic practices in Zimbabwe.

Maimane added that Ramaphosa was wrong to attend Mnangagwa’s inauguration due to the controversies surrounding the just-ended polls.

Zimbabwe recently held its general elections which saw the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declare Zanu PF leader as the winner with 52,6% of votes.

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and several Election Observer Missions (EOMs) said the elections were flawed.

“Fellow South Africans it is now common cause according to the SADC observer mission that elections in Zimbabwe were a complete sham, the elections could not meet the threshold of being considered free and fair.

“Essentially these elections have now elected Emmerson Mnangagwa as President under very dubious conditions,” said Maimane.

The BOSA leader called for the upholding of the SADC mission.

“We have to uphold the sovereignty and democratic practice in Zimbabwe if we are going to deal with an influx of immigrants coming from Zimbabwe into South Africa.

“We should observe the SADC observer mission. What concerns us as South Africans is that President Ramaphosa is attending in my opinion an illegally elected presidency inauguration.

“This is a betrayal of the people of this country, it is a betrayal of SADC and more seriously it undermines our stance in Africa for a country that wants to secure democracy,” he added.

EOMs, African Union, SADC, Carter Centre, European Union and Commonwealth condemned the condition under which the elections were held.

Contrary to the views shared by Maimane, South Africa’s ruling party African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula upheld Mnangagwa’s Presidency.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration in Harare, Mbalula said ANC election observers reported that the polls were credible.

CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS IN ZIMBABWE WANT NEVERS MUMBA INVESTIGATED BY SADC

THE SADC Electoral Observation Mission needs to be true to its parentage as an instrument to promote democracy, cohesion, peace and security; not to be a willing regime change tool.

SADC must immediately investigate the conduct of the head of its election observer mission to Zimbabwe, Dr. Nevers Mumba, for attempting to aid illegal regime change in the country through fomenting a civil uprising in the wake of the just ended harmonised elections, a local civic organisation in Zimbabwe has said.

In a letter to SADC chairperson, Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco, the Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum (CSCJF) said Dr. Mumba’s conduct in presenting a flawed preliminary report on the August 23 elections was a “threat to regional security”.

The letter has also copied to all SADC Heads of State, including President Hakainde Hichilema.

“Your Excellency, in our view, it is pertinent for SADC to reflect on this recent SEOM (SADC Electoral Observation Mission) experience in view of its implications on regional security,” said CSCJF in the letter signed by its national chairperson Reverend Anglistone Sibanda and another official, Abigale Mupambi.

“If at all possible, we recommend that the report should be reviewed by objective and luminary regional statesmen. While Zimbabwe has remained peaceful and averted the possible catastrophic consequences of Dr. Mumba’s actions, other SADC countries that will hold elections in the future may not be as fortunate. The SEOM needs to be true to its parentage as an instrument to promote democracy, cohesion, peace and security; not to be a willing regime change tool.

“We further recommend, Your Excellency, that Dr. Mumba’s activities be subjected to an independent SADC investigation because they cannot be swept under the carpet in view of the instability they could have caused within Zimbabwe and the region.”

Such censure, said CSCJF, was required to ensure that future heads of SEOM stick to their code of conduct and “do not aid the bidding of hostile external regime change proponents”.

The civic organisation said regional citizens appreciate the role of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation to foster peace and stability in the region.

Ramaphosa slammed for attending Mnangagwa’s inauguration, supporting stolen govt

0

SOUTH African opposition parties continue to blast Cyril Ramphosa after he attended President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration saying he is endorsing a stolen government.

Ramaphosa was one of three SADC leaders who attended Mnangagwa’s swearing-in ceremony at the National Sports Stadium Monday.

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen said Ramaphosa’s attendance was a sign that the South African leader is turning a blind eye to the struggles of Zimbabweans.

“President Cyril Ramaphosa’s attendance of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration as President of Zimbabwe today demonstrates the extent to which the ANC is removed from the plight of the Zimbabwean people under the ZANU-PF’s longstanding autocratic dictatorship, and the ANC’s complete and utter disregard for our own founding principles of freedom and democracy which the ZANU-PF has killed.

“By showing support for the ZANU-PF, Ramaphosa is endorsing a stolen government and a stolen democracy that has caused hyperinflation, the collapse of the Zimbabwean economy, the suffering of tens of millions of fellow Africans, and the mass migration of much of Zimbabwe’s population causing immense instability in the Southern African region,” said Steenhuisen.

President Mnangagwa was re-elected for a second term following a 52.6 percent win in last month’s general elections.

The August 23 to 24 plebiscite has been condemned by foreign observer missions who have since released preliminary reports denouncing the polls.

“The ANC should hang its head in shame for giving any sense of legitimacy to a party and a government that has violated every one of South Africa’s very own founding values and principles.

“The DA condemns President Cyril Ramaphosa’s attendance of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration in the strongest possible terms. We cannot be a country that sacrifices human suffering and oppression at the altar of political expediency,” added Steenhuisen.

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa has called for an intervention of the regional bloc Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Steenhuisen further said Chamisa is the recognised leader of Zimbabwe.

“It is very clear that this election was nothing more than a fig leaf for the ZANU-PF’s re-entrenchment of an extractive and violently oppressive government under the guise of democracy.

“The DA views Nelson Chamisa and his Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) as the truly elected leader and party of Zimbabwe.

“Evidently, ZANU-PF does too, which is why they went to such extreme lengths to suppress the opposition, including denying them the right to hold rallies and to communicate on the state broadcasting system, and by ensuring insufficient ballot papers in urban areas where the CCC has strong support.

“Freedom-loving South Africans should be asking their government and the ANC why they are endorsing violent political oppression, corruption, and civil suffering in our neighbouring country,” he said.

‘America not the world policeman and must respect Zimbabwe’s independence’- ANC

African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has said disputes arising from the recently concluded elections should be addressed guided by the constitution and laws.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration, Mbalula endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Presidency.

The Zanu-PF leader got a 52.6% share of the votes, a win disputed by the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change which has called for a rerun arguing the plebiscite lacked transparency and credibility.

The ANC secretary general said the South African ruling party sent election observers who reported that the polls were free, fair and credible.

“We participated in the observation of the election so we are not speaking from ivory towers, we talk what we know, we were here, our people were here, observed and went around,” Mbalula said.

“Zanu-PF emerged victorious as declared by ZEC. There was opposition. It is strong but according to the elections and the outcome they have lost.

“But if there are disputes like I said we believe that is for Zimbabweans, guided by their own constitution and laws to settle their disputes,” he added.

Mbalula dismissed reports by some Election Observer Missions who said the polls were held under a restrictive environment.

He further dismissed reports by the West saying Zimbabwe as a sovereign state should resolve its conflicts without external pressure.

“America cannot give anyone a lecture about elections. They themselves could not settle their own disputes, Donald Trump at some point if you remember not so long ago there was war there in Capitol Hill in USA so America is not a world policeman.

“They must respect Zimbabwe’s independence and they must lift sanctions against Zimbabwe they must respect the sovereignty of states.”

EOMs, African Union, SADC, Carter Centre, European Union and Commonwealth condemned the condition under which the elections were held.

Among other concerns raised by the EOMs was ZEC’s centralization of key election processes such as regulation and supervision of the election process such as registering voters, drafting delimitation boundaries, designing, printing, and distributing ballot papers.

The EOMs also highlighted the weaponization of the law by Zanu-PF to deny opposition rallies and gatherings while raising red flags over the arrest of some local observers.

The run-up to the general election was characterised by repressive measures through the State apparatus which stifled civic space while clamping down on opposition gatherings.

According to the EOMs while incidents of political violence were fewer than in 2018, tensions and polarization increased in the months preceding the elections, as legislation restricting individuals’ freedoms of speech, movement, and association, such as the Criminal Law (Codification) Amendment Act, also known as the Patriotic Act, and the PVO Amendment Bill were introduced.

TASILA TEMBO MURDER CASE TO START AFRESH

TASILA TEMBO MURDER CASE TO START AFRESH

THE murder case trial in which army officer Nigel Mwaba is accused of killing his lover doctor Tasila Tembo will start afresh following the removal of the Judge who was handling the case which had even reached Judgement stage.

The matter has to start afresh before Lusaka High Court because Judge Wilfred Muma, who was initially hearing it was recently relieved of his duties by President Hakainde Hichilema before he could deliver judgement in the case.

Mwaba, 33 , is accused of killing his girlfriend, Dr Tembo, 47, a former Ministry of Health deputy spokesperson, between October 25 and 26, 2020,after a dispute.

At the time of the alleged murder, Dr Tembo’s body was discovered in a decomposed state near Mikango Barracks after the victim went missing for some days.

Mwaba, who was reportedly on the run at the time his lover went missing, was later apprehended at Dr Tembo’ s grave a month after she was buried.

Mwaba pleaded not guilty to the charge but after several witnesses testified against him, he was found with a case to answer and placed on his defence which he opened last November.

But those close to the case have indicated that it will now have to start afresh and dates have already been set for trial which will restart next month.

During hearing before dismissed judge Muma, Mwaba denied the allegations and informed the court that he loved his girlfriend and had no intention to harm her.

Mwaba said that Dr Tembo was a very generous and caring person.

Mwaba narrated to the court with tears in his eyes that he never intended to harm Dr Tembo as he loved her so much.

Judge Muma had to stand down the matter for ten minutes after Mwaba began to cry in the middle of his testimony as he was narrating the ordeal.

Mwaba however denied killing Dr Tembo, saying he only slapped her after an intense argument they had about her infidelity and the nude pictures and videos he saw in her phone sending to another man.

He told the court he met Dr Tasila between October and November of 2017 during the cause of his duties at the time he was in employment for the Zambia army.

“I met Dr Tasila in Mtendere at the time there was cholera epidemic in most parts of Lusaka, we were deployed to headquarters facilities, and mine was in Mtendere in Kaunda market. Being a public health specialist she was deployed in a similar role as of a civilian. We got alone quiet well and within the same year, we started dating we would exchange visits, she would visit me in Mikango barracks and I would visit her at her home in Meanwood ibex Lusaka,” he said.

Mwaba narrated that about three to four months of dating, they discussed a number of business ventures and concluded they start a business called forever living products.

He said on October 23, 2020 he was tired from his errands and went straight to his room to sleep as he had arrived late, and it was Dr Tembo woke him up.

38-YEAR-OLD KITWE WOMAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING OVER K180,000

A 38-year-old woman of Kitwe on the Copperbelt has been arrested for stealing over 180 thousand Kwacha from her employer.

In a statement made available, Copperbelt Police Commanding officer, Peacewell Mweemba says the incident occurred on Monday 4th September 2023.

Mr. Mweemba disclosed that Sandra Chisanga, a teller at Mukuru Money Transfer Company in Kitwe reported that someone had broken into the building and cash money amounting to K183,498 was stolen by unknown persons and entered and exited by opening the main door with a key.

He says that investigations were instituted into the matter after the Police suspected foul play in the report which led to the apprehension of Sandra Chisenga and later led to the recovery of some money amounting to K2,600 which was found at her house and K18, 370 through her mobile money account.

Meanwhile, a sum of K43, 700 was recovered earlier from her supervisor Albert Chisombo aged 27.

This was after the interview on the Regional Supervisor Albert Chisombo who stated that on Sunday 3rd September Sandra worked alone and not with her usual workmate until around 13.00hrs when she knocked off.

Mr. Mweemba, however, says in the evening, Sandra together with her supervisor Albert Chisombo went to the office, opened both the main door and safe with keys and got the cash money which was available in the safe equivalent to K90, 000 and shared it between them.

Later, they staged the scene by breaking the window glass with unknown object and opening the safe as well as the main door to indicate that the criminals broke into and stole the money.

Mr. Mweemba notes that on Monday September 4, Sandra made a report at the Police station with inflated figures of K183, 498 to also cover on the shortages accrued in their financial books.

He adds that it was through a search on Sandra’s phone that certain conversations were picked from and led to the arrest of the second suspect Albert Chisombo.

The two suspects are detained in police custody and recovered money amounting to K64,670 has been kept as exhibit.

SDA master guide in court for defilement

A master guide of the Seventh Day Adventist church of cornerstone congregation in Lusaka’s Chawama compound has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates Court on a charge of defiling a 12-year old girl.

Collins Chikwangala aged 40 could however not answer to the criminal charge as the State requested for time to resolve certain issues before the matter proceeds into trial.

Prosecutor Judy Mauka told magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli that a State advocate will take over the prosecution of the case.

Bervan Mengo who is representing the master guide could not object to the application but made a plea that the State should be prepared at the next sitting.

Magistrate Mwamfuli adjourned the case to October 2.

Chikwangala is on May 28 this year alleged to have forced himself on a minor who is a pathfinder and member his church.

According to sources from within the church, the 12 year old victim caught the eye of the suspect when she trailed after her mother who was going out on a church outing for a choral event.

The victim did not find her mother at church to which Chikwangala who was aware of the mother’s absence told her that her mother had left with him a parcel which he needed to give her.

Unsuspcious of the church leader, the victim believed and accompanied him home where he stays with his parents.

However, on arrival at home where there was no one, Chikwangala is said to have asked her get inside the house and when she refused, he grabbed and dragged her inside.

Once in the house, Chikwangala is said to tossed away the master guide law of being an example in Word, Conduct, Love, Spirit, Faith, and Purity,” and tied up the victim and defiled her.

As if the sexual assault was not enough, the master guide is accused of having warned the victim that he would kill her and her entire family if she exposed him for ravaging her chastity.

Despite the threat, the victim opened up to her mother and revealed what she had been through after which the matter was reported to the Chawama Police Station.

According to the medical report, the victim suffered a broken hymen and bruises on her private parts.

Hichilema’s Reckless And Desperate ‘coup Plot’ Talk- Fred M’membe

HICHILEMA’S RECKLESS AND DESPERATE ‘COUP PLOT’ TALK

The talk of a “coup plot” by Mr Hakainde Hichilema and some of his hungry surrogates is nothing but wild, irresponsible and reckless rhetoric.

Before we delve deeper into the details of this cheap plan, here is the context of the scheme.

So upon returning from Harare, Zimbabwe, with a bloodied nose and shame on his head, Mr Nevers Mumba was on national television to defend his disastrous SADC Election Observation Mission report, but also as part of the scheme he made some outrageous and illogical claim that politicians who were labelling Mr Hichilema as a Western puppet were instigating a military coup in Zambia.

What a dishonest, manipulative and reckless statement from a person who is supposed to espouse true Christian beliefs and values. What cheap sophistry, hypocrisy and ignorance of global affairs is this?

Soon, after this highly reckless and inflammatory talk by Mr Mumba, yesterday Mr Hichilema echoed these sentiments.

Mr Hichilema said and I quote, “However, to colleagues that think we are timid by being kind and that they can break the laws and entertain thoughts of illegal take-over of government, including undemocratic coup d’état, our only word is that we are coming for you and we will not allow you to make Zambians start running around as is the case in some places.”

From the above scenario, we can see the connivance and deliberate plot to do evil and get rid of dissent by punishing opposition leaders on trumped-up charges. The pattern is clear for anybody to follow. But they’re not clever enough to understand or later conceal their evil intent. Simply put, they’re reckless schemers who are extremely high on power.

It’s evident that they are unaware and appreciative of the limitations of power and influence. They think they can do what they want and to anyone without consequences for their actions. They’re just lost and confused about the situation in the country.

Lest we forget, Zambia is a country that has witnessed and experienced such senseless tactics before and how they fell flat on their face. And we don’t think we have seen the end of this.

As President, Mr Frederick Chiluba locked up Kenneth Kaunda on similar outrageous allegations of plotting a military coup. Again, the same Mr Chiluba locked up the late Dean Mung’omba for the same reasons as he did with KK. Mr Edgar Lungu also locked up Mr Hichilema for alleged treason. And none of these people cited here was prosecuted. KK was never prosecuted, Mr Mung’omba was never prosecuted, and Mr Hichilema was never prosecuted. So clearly, when leaders are desperate and their hold on power is threatened, they start processes that they never complete.

Meanwhile, as they play such dangerous games, innocent lives and families are being destroyed. This is what Mr Hichilema, an erstwhile detainee himself, is trying to do to those he doesn’t like. Those he feels are a threat to his hold on power. What shame! What a waste of time and effort! What an incorrigible person!

What is even more remarkable about this is that in opposition, Mr Hichilema spoke freely about presidents of this country. For instance, Mr Hichilema is on record describing President Michael Chilufya Sata, as “chimbwi no plan”, loosely translated as a mindless hyena. Mr Hichilema made these remarks about Mr Sata during the time Mr Sata was president and nothing happened to him.

Nobody was spared, and Mr Hichilema made more demeaning and insulting remarks about leaders of this country, including Mr Lungu. So what has changed now? It is acceptable for Mr Hichilema as an opposition leader to describe presidents of this country in terms he deemed fit but it is apparently highly offensive and treasonous for current opposition leaders to do the same to him now that he is the President.

It is now treason to describe Mr Hichilema for what he truly is – a puppet of Western imperialism and transnational corporations. Why should this be so? What type of self-importance, arrogance and tyranny is this? What makes Mr Hichilema think he is so different and more special than the rest of the presidents this country has had? What makes him think the opposition must conduct themselves in a manner that comforts and pleases him?

We urge Mr Hichilema and his hungry surrogates to take caution before they engage in very dangerous activities in order to stay in power. If not, they risk presiding over a killing machine.

We also want to put him on notice that some of us are not prepared to be cowed into submission by the spreading of misinformation, threats and illogical conspiracies, which are nothing but a figment of Mr Hichilema and his surrogates’ imaginations. We wish to remind him that while they were only spectators, some of us were direct participants in the fight for multiparty democracy in this country.

We were at the forefront of the struggle against the one-party state and we will not allow him to turn Zambia into a sham democracy.

Further, let Mr Hichilema be comfortable with our political ideology, discourse and mobilisation strategies, because we mean well and have always been for democratic transitions of power. Never will we support any undemocratic changes of government.

That said, we call upon Mr Hichilema to exhibit maturity and leadership and abandon the highly inflammatory, sensational and intemperate outbursts that he is now making.

We know that he is under pressure. We know that the lies, manipulation and deceit have backfired. We know that he stands exposed in the eyes of Zambians as a liar and a fraud who has no intention whatsoever to do as he promised during his campaign for the presidency. We know he is ashamed of himself. We know the rallies in Lusaka haven’t yielded anything. We know he is extremely unpopular and frustrated with his performance.

But that must not make Zambians – any of us – suffer pantu alelaya eka, tatwaliko tulibakayele!

One bad term doesn’t deserve another, aleya!

VEDANTA/KCM SAGA: THE LIES, GREED AND ARROGANCE- Fred M’membe

VEDANTA/KCM SAGA: THE LIES, GREED AND ARROGANCE

By Dr. Fred M’membe

Arthur Schopenhauer once said, “All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.”

We said it, and Mr Hichilema and his corrupt puppet regime ridiculed and violently opposed our perspective on the issues that were surrounding the situation at KCM. But here we are again in the same situation they ridiculed and violently disputed when we raised the alarm.

It is now evident that they were merely trying to silence the voices of truth on this issue so they could be heard and seen as the only ones who can do what is best for the people of the Copperbelt, in particular the people of Chingola and Chililabombwe.

We repeat what we have said before; that the return of Vedanta at KCM after its Indian owner Anil Agarwal parted with US$200 million, endorses the betrayal and disrespect Mr Hakainde Hichilema has for the people on the Copperbelt.

This particular move has a revealing effect on what type of a leader Mr Hichilema is and how he views and treats the people on the Copperbelt – with low value.

By this decision alone, Mr Hichilema has spat in the face of the people of the Copperbelt, especially the miners, who braved the meandering queues to cast their votes and put him into office.

Below are the articles we published on this issue in July this year.

VEDANTA’S AGARWAL TO GET BACK KCM AFTER PARTING WITH US$200M

After parting with US$200 million, Vedanta Resources plc’s 69-year-old Indian owner, Anil Agarwal, is assured of getting back KCM, which he lost control of in a Zambian government initiated liquidation order in 2020.

Agarwal acquired KCM in 2004 in a transaction that had an aggregate value of approximately US$270 million, comprised of a cash consideration of US$48.2 million for the 51 per cent stake, a commitment on the part of Vedanta to fund cash flows in KCM to an aggregate limit of US$220 million, and an agreement on the part of Vedanta to contribute US$1 million towards the cost of a feasibility study of substantial deeper level resources associated with the Konkola mine (containing estimated resources of around 250 million tonnes at 3.8 percent copper), to be undertaken by December 31, 2006.

In August 2021, while addressing miners in Kitwe, the then President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Edgar Lungu, claimed that he had received a report that Mr Hakainde Hichilema was soliciting US$300,000 from Vedanta, promising to give them back KCM once elected. An accusation, which Mr Hichilema vehemently denied.

On April 25, 2022, during a media briefing at State House, Mr Hichilema dismissed media reports suggesting that the government planned to give back KCM to Vedanta as falsehoods.

But on May 9, 2022, Mr Hichilema U-turned stating, “Vedanta and ourselves have agreed that we suspend litigation,”

Going by the sequence of events and inconsistencies in the statements, especially on the part of Mr Hichilema, we demand that he comes clean on the Vedanta issue. What is going on? The Zambian people deserve to know the truth and how decisions have been arrived at in this matter.

Fred M’membe
President of the Socialist Party

In the same month of July, we again guided as follows:

HICHILEMA HAS BETRAYED THE COPPERBELT ON VEDANTA

The return of Vedanta at KCM after its Indian owner Anil Agarwal parted with US$200 million, endorses the betrayal and disrespect Mr Hakainde Hichilema has for the people on the Copperbelt.

As usual, Mr Hichilema has made known to the Zambian people that the poor masses of this country are nowhere near the equation, and as such deserve no place, value, or respect from his government. Like we have always said, Mr Hichilema is here to protect mining transnational capital and not the working masses. And we shall validate our standpoint stated above by highlighting the facts that led the Zambian government to initiate a liquidation order in 2020, so that citizens can see and judge for themselves.

Under Vedanta, KCM faced various operational difficulties, which included:

1) the mine failed to meet its financial obligations to the workers thereby subjecting them to poor working conditions,

2) the mine failed to honour its debts with contractors and suppliers,

3) the mine was highly indebted and threatened with insolvency, to the extent that as of September 30, 2013, KCM’s total liability stood overwhelmingly at US$1.5 billion, surpassing its asset base by US$123 million. This situation definitely made it unfeasible for the mine to meet its financial obligations. For this reason, KCM defaulted on its US$700 million loan signed with Standard Bank. By the way, this particular loan was secured on the KCM assets,

4) Vedanta failed to live up to its pledge to inject a sum of US$397 million foreign direct investment in the mine but resorted to diverting funds it was generating locally to other ventures thereby choking the mine and leaving it with no resources to inject in its operations,

5) Vedanta lamentably failed to operationalise the Konkola Deep Mining Project despite making numerous pledges and commitments over the same, and,

6) Vedanta never invested in its own equipment. It was merely sub-contracting its works. This made it extremely expensive to run the mine.

Above are just some of the many reasons the Zambia government repossessed the mine and opted to find another investor. Now, with all that we have stated above, we ask a question: which principled and decent leader would surrender back such a key national asset to a dishonest investor like Vedanta?

Clearly, Mr Hichilema is a selfish and showboating politician. But all this won’t end well. It will soon catch up with him because Zambians are not fools. Already the atmosphere is one of exhaustion. People are fatigued of his lies, inconsistency, and self-serving attitude.

Let him know that this country is way bigger than him and so he must stop playing with people’s livelihoods and the country’s future by dishing out key national assets willy-nilly like sweets in a market parlour.

He was speaking when he visited Mr Tembo at Balmoral Police in Chilanga today.

Hon Mundubile also encouraged the President to start using measured language that befits the office of the Head of State.

He has also encouraged President Hichilema to reach out to the Zambian people and the opposition on the possible solutions to the Challenges the country is facing.

He said the opposition is ready for an Indaba where they can advise the President on how to navigate through the basics of leadership.

Hon Mundubile said it is clear that the Zambian people cannot give the President another mandate because of the failure seen during his tenure.

“We want him to attend to basics, the adherence of the rule of Law, where as an economist himself, he may be facing some challenges in the Prices of Mealie Meal, fuel, the exchange rate and the cost of living. All these things like the adherence to the rule of law are basics. All what the IG must do is to follow what the Commander in Chief says,” he said.

We appreciate that everything seems to be escaping his hands, he seems to be in desperation, and mealie meal prices are going out of hand. We want to help him now, the Zambian people have made a decision, and they are not going to give President HH a vote in 2026. What they have seen is total failure on the part of President HH and his new dawn Government in the manner Government has been run. We want to help him now so that he manages the economy, even when we take over from him, we do not want to see to it that the economy is completely destroyed,” he said.

Meanwhile, Opposition Whip Stephen Kampyongo said President Hichilema is clearly being undermined by the Inspector General of Police.

He said the Police seem to go against the directives and pronouncements made by the President on public spaces..

Lunte Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya said the UPND has demonstrated that they cannot follow the law.

He said they want to hide their failures to bring the prices of commodities down by arresting the opposition.

HON. KENNEDY SAKENI (MHSRIP)-MY CONSTANT INSPIRATION FROM ABOVE

By Hon. Bowman Chilosha Lusambo

Today, September 5th 2023 marks exactly 10 years since the death of Hon. Kennedy Sakeni, at the time of his death, he was serving as a Cabinet Minister in the administration of President Michael Sata.

As a young boy, I met Hon. Sakeni in different settings but one that still touches my heart is when, as Provincial Head of Intelligence in Luapula, Hon. Sakeni was instrumental in the setting up of a football team called Volcano F.C. He recruited me to the team and took me in as a mentee. Hon. Sakeni was the first to identify my political traits and encouraged to venture into politics in my later years.

Hon. Sakeni was a man of the people. He opened his home to so many people from different walks of life. Whenever I visited the Sakeni residence in Brentwood, I found several people including from his home village visiting him. I can attest that Hon. Sakeni was used to God to help so many people including me whenever I called for help.

When I landed in problems, Hon. Sakeni was always available to offer counsel as he did during the Major Kachingwe debacle. I learnt so much from him. His calmness during heavy political storms was such a great leadership attribute. Hon. Sakeni predicted decades ago that I will one day become a significant player in Zambian politics. When he was at a point of his death, he called me on phone when I was having a meeting at Protea Arcades and he shared with me some monumental things that have kept me going in my political journey. An hour later, the family phone me to say Hon. Sakeni had just passed on. I feel honored that Hon. Sakeni still wanted to share his last few moments on earth with me.

From that day, 10 years ago, Hon. Sakeni has continued to be my source of daily inspiration in our sometimes rough political terrain. He was a Father figure to me who created a path for my participation in politics.

To God, thank you for allowing me a chance to meet your wonderful creation and to the Sakeni family, I pray for God’s continued strength as you soldier on. May His Soul Continue To Rest in Peace.

ZIMBABWE ELECTIONS MOST FRAUDULENT IN THE REGION

ZIMBABWE ELECTIONS MOST FRAUDULENT IN THE REGION

SOUTHERN Africa Development Community Election Observer Mission head Nevers Mumba has described the Zimbabwean elections as the most fraudulent in the history of the region.

Speaking in an interview with a Zambian television station, Mumba said Zimbabwe’s elections were “deeply flawed” and lacked transparency.
“President Emmerson Mnangagwa can proceed with his inauguration, but the election is recognised as the most fraudulent in the history of Sadc,” Mumba said.

“Let’s not act like we don’t know what’s happening on the continent of Africa, the coups are taking place in the western parts of our continent. These are realities on the ground. They start with unruly political leaders and desperate political leaders … Zimbabwe should show that it is a member of Sadc and I’m sure they will make things right.”

He said there were widespread irregularities including the disenfranchisement and intimidation of voters.
“This report is not common in the Sadc region; they expected us to just endorse everything … If we don’t work hard to ensure that we have free and fair elections in our region, we create a problem for ourselves.

“People start to find other ways to express themselves, which are coups. That’s why Sadc insists on all member States to comply with guidelines. The citizens of Zimbabwe only saw the ballot paper on the day of voting, they never saw it. They only knew who printed it three days before the election. They don’t know how it even moved to the polling stations. The voters were disenfranchised,” he said.

Mumba also condemned the attack on his mission by some Zimbabwean citizens on social media, who felt that the Sadc report was biased, saying they should go the legal route.
“What people said on social media is unfair to say that Sadc is partial. It’s an insult to my integrity and dignity that they think that I can compromise my sense of judgement. I’m addicted to justice and fairness. We are not Westerners; we are not pushing Western interests. We are all Africans.
“We cannot choose leaders for Zimbabwean people, they choose for themselves. Zimbabwe must challenge this report if they think it is wrong so that we go back to their Constitution and show them where we are anchoring that report. If they have any problem, they must not come to Zambia and cannot blame President Hakainde Hichilema.

“There is no reason why they should involve him, this is totally unacceptable. Let’s not react dramatically, we know there are legal routes,” he said.

Last week, the ruling Zanu PF party ripped into Mumba, calling him to order after he released a damning report on the just-ended elections where he stated that they failed to meet international and regional standards.

Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa discredited Mumba as an election observer and accused him of overstepping his role by criticising Zanu PF affiliate Forever Associates Zimbabwe, which reportedly threatened voters, according to findings of the observers.

Who Killed President Levy Mwanawasa?

0

“Those with eyes, let them ‘eye’ “.

By Patrick Chinamasa ZANU-PF Treasure

“For those who don’t know the late Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa, let me fill you in about him. During his tenure of office as Zambian President, he became the darling of Western countries and, cheered on by these sanctions-imposing countries, became very hostile towards Zimbabwe and ZANUPF. He went further than mere rhetoric and, working in cahoots with Tony Blair, had agreed to a Tony Blair proposal to use Zambia as a base for British Military Forces to launch a military offensive against Zimbabwe with a view to reversing the land redistribution program and effecting regime change.

Zimbabwe picked up the intelligence about the hostile intentions of Blair and Mwanawasa. As SADC Chairman in 2008, Mwanawasa convened an Emergency SADC Summit on Zimbabwe in Lusaka with the intent to rally other SADC leaders to the view that a military intervention in Zimbabwe to remove ZANUPF from power was inevitable. Mwanawasa invited Tsvangirai to the Summit. As Zimbabwe, we objected to the attendance of an opposition leader at a Summit of Heads of State. Our objection fell on deaf ears. President Mugabe decided to boycott the Summit and instead dispatched a four Minister delegation to the SADC Lusaka Heads of States Summit to engage Mwanawasa and dissuade him from the path to plunge Zimbabwe and the region into an Armageddon. I led the delegation to the Lusaka Summit.

To beef up and bolster the strength of the delegation, President Mugabe sent President ED Mnangagwa (then Speaker of the National Assembly) to join the delegation. The Emergency Summit started around 3 pm on Saturday, 12 April 2008, and went on nonstop into and throughout the night until it adjourned on Sunday, 13 July 2008, around 6 am. Cde Mnangagwa’s inclusion in the delegation was a masterstroke. It saved the day solely because he was personally known to Mwanawasa. I assumed then (which I have not verified) that Cde Mnangagwa and Mwanawasa were either classmates or contemporaries at the Law School at the University of Zambia. Mwanawasa’s venom and hostility were evident and palpable, but in the early hours of Sunday, while not yielding his ground, Mwanawasa was purely out of respect for Cde Mnangagwa, beginning to treat the delegation with a modicum of civility.

The Lusaka Emergency SADC summit was inconclusive, and Mwanawasa made it known that he was taking the matter to the AU Summit to be held at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. Mwanawasa suffered a stroke, and that put an end to the regime change agenda as a SADC-initiated project at the behest of Tony Blair. Rev. Nevers Mumba is making a spirited attempt to take the regime change agenda from where Mwanawasa left it. Like Mwanawasa before him, he will not succeed in his evil intent. He does not know what mettle Zimbabweans are made of.

Mumba is a complete disgrace and an embarrassment to the region and the African Continent as a whole. It was very unwise and unpolitic for President Hichilema as Head of SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security to appoint Mumba, a lackey of imperialism and neocolonialism with a known regime change background (against ZANUPF), to come and observe Zimbabwe’s Harmonised Elections. President Hichilema did, wittingly or unwittingly through Mumba’s appointment, stoke the fires of Western-inspired regime change in Zimbabwe and will live to regret it. President Hichilema’s previous known political association with Chamisa creates unwholesome perceptions about his intentions towards Zimbabwe and ZANUPF.

Those who have eyes, let them “eye,” and those who have ears, let them “ear.” Nokuti hatigoni kurega kutaura zvatakaona nezvotakanzwa.”

No Ten Years For President Hichilema – Archbishop Mpundu

NO TEN YEARS FOR PRESIDENT HICHILEMA – TELESPHORE MPUNDU

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should end the egotism of mocking Zambians by demanding that he should be graced with 10 years to govern the country when he has disappointingly failed to deliver on any of his promises that made citizens vote for him in 2021, Emeritus Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu has said.

Archbishop Mpundu, the retired Catholic cleric says Zambians would have no existent reason to re-elect President Hichilema if he is not going to deliver on what he had promised in his first five-year term.

Archbishop Mpundu who is chairperson of the Our Civic Duty Association (OCiDA) said in an interview that Zambians had heard enough promises from President Hichilema and all they were interested in was to see him deliver.

He said President Hichilema should stop thinking Zambians were gullible whom he could take advantage of by continuing making promises of a better life when Zambians had been condemned to excruciating economic miseries as a result of the poor policies that were being pursued.

The former Catholic prelate wondered how President Hichilema could have the audacity of asking for an extension of his presidency beyond 2026 when the signs so far were pointing to the fact that he had failed to meet the expectations of Zambians.

“So, he is asking for ten years for what? No, no, no…tell him we shall not be taken for granted. We have heard that many times before and we shall only believe him when we see him delivering. We are tired of his promises. You tell him that we are now like Thomas in the Bible who failed to believe Jesus had resurrected until he touched his wounds. Zambians are hungry now and it is reckless to ask them to postpone their suffering until after 10 years. He has failed to deliver in two years and he wants us to believe he will deliver in the next three years. No, no no,” Archbishop Mpundu said.

He said President Hichilema should stop making promises he knew he would never keep because the head of State risked annoying Zambians and agitating for resentment against himself.

Archbishop Mpundu said for now, President Hichilema should attempt to make his promises to Europe of the United States of America where he stood a better chance of being believed because Zambians had already seen through his (President Hichilema) rhetoric.

“Let him not fool us that he understands our problems because he does not. Sorry, we are not going to allow him to continue telling lies. The problems we are having are his creation and if he claims that he is also having problems, he should blame himself because he has failed. His problems are his own creation. So, sorry, we are not ready to continue being taken advantage of. Let him just deliver because we are tired,” Archbishop Mpundu said.

Edgar Lungu promises Given Lubinda running mate position in the 2026 presidential elections

Lungu promises Given Lubinda running mate position

FORMER president Edgar Lungu has promised makeshift PF leader Given Lubinda the position of running mate in the 2026 presidential elections.

The former Head of State has also promised prominent Lusaka lawyer Makebi Zulu the post of Speaker of the National Assembly once he is voted back to power, according to sources within his circle.

After being rejected by close to three million voters in 2021, Lungu is bubbling with confidence, believing the current high meal mealie prices are working in his political favour.

To increase the prospects of returning to State House in 2026, Lungu has now resolved to install an “Alebwelelapo-friendly” leadership in within the PF.

Sources privy to the schemes say Lungu has identified binoculars-carrying Raphael Nakacinda as the most influential proponent of his come back agenda and has since directed Lubinda to announce him as PF Secretary General.

Further, the sources said former minister of works and supply Sylvia Chalikosa was being line up as PF deputy Secretary General while Chitambo member of parliament Mutale Chanda would replace Stephen Kampyongo as opposition chief whip.

Lungu has also directed Lubinda to remove Mporokoso member parliament Brian Mundubile from his parliamentary post as leader of the opposition and replace him with his Kawambwa counterpart Nickson Chilangwa.

According to the sources, this is because Mundubile who they say is working closely with Shiwang’andu lawmaker, Kampyongo is a threat to Lungu’s political come back.

As for running mate, the sources say Lungu had initially identified counsel Zulu but later settled for Lubinda for tribal balancing.

The sources said should Lungu return to power, he has promised to make Zulu Speaker of the National Assembly.

Since losing power two years ago, the PF has remained without s president while a convention to elect one has been postponed several times.

After the loss in 2021, Lungu had initially given up on politics but his close associates got him to change his mind after convincing him that he was still popular and that he would easily beat President Hakainde Hichilema in an election.

Since then, Lungu has been scheming his return to the helm of the PF and eventually contesting the presidency in 2026.

Lungu became president of Zambia in 2015 and ruled for seven years.

Government Exporting Maize and Mealie-meal to the Great Lakes Region- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

0

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Government Exporting Maize and Mealie-meal to the Great Lakes Region
Minister of Defence Hon.Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma informed the nation that Government had received an upfront payment of $15million towards a $50million export mealie-meal deal with the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC). He also informed the country that the Government had received similar requests from other countries in the sub-region.

And in his statement to Parliament delivered on 7th June 2023, Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Mtolo Phiri stated that the Crop Forecast Results for 2022/2023 Agricultural Season and the 2023/2024 Crop Marketing arrangement, the number of small and medium scale farming households that planted various crops increased ( despite false assertions by President Hichilema) has increased to 2,534,311 from 1,756,340, recorded in the 2021/2022 agricultural season.

He also stated that from 1st May, 2023, the total carryover stocks held by farmers, millers, grain traders and the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) was 450,891 metric tonnes with expected production of 3,261,686 metric making the total stocks of maize available in this marketing season to 3,712,576 metric tonnes.

To this extent, he claims that the country has recorded a maize surplus of 470,379 metric tonnes.
The food balance sheet further indicates that the total maize required for a projected population of 20.4
million for both human and industrial consumption and other commitments is about 3,242,197 metric tonnes. Overall, the country has a surplus of 209,722 metric tonnes of maize equivalent.

He emphasised that the nation is, therefore, assured that the country will remain food secure in the foreseeable future for as long as vices such as smuggling are managed.
These figures given by Mtolo have been syrongly disputed by various experts and stakeholders and the maize grain availability is more dire than stated.

PROMOTING FOOD INSECURITY

Despite repeated government assurances, the State has been in the forefront of undermining food security. Government has embarked on wanton export of national strategic maize grain reserves depleting stocks from a dedicated 6months reserves to one-month supply.
With the shortage of maize in the country and high mealie-meal prices, one would expect Government to be serious about food security than perpetrate its insecurity.

Rest be assured that the next farming season will recorded poor yield because of the failure to conclude the tender regarding purchase, supply and distribution of Urea (top dressing) fertiliser and the anticipated El Nino weather phenomenon.

Nevers Mumba says Mnangagwa’s govt misguided itself

SADC Election Observer Mission (EOM) head Nevers Mumba has called out the Zimbabwean government, saying it misdirected itself in blaming him for the regional body’s relatively uncommon preliminary report and assuming he had written it himself.

Their report heavily criticised the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) handling of the August 23 polls, an act Mumba said was ‘uncommon’ as SADC had become known for rubber-stamping questionable elections.

Speaking on Zambia’s TV1 on Sunday, Mumba said his EOM never at any point deviated from its mandate.

He declared that they had every right to question Zimbabwean laws which could have denied its citizens a free and fair election.

Their report’s mention of the Patriot Act and Private Voluntary Organisations (PVO) Bill irked ruling Zanu-PF and government who felt they should have ignored those.

Exiled former minister Jonathan Moyo and Zanu-PF are at the forefront, arguing SADC’s mission had no right to do so, against what Mumba claimed.

“Zambians must relax and feel proud that this job was executed in a manner that it was asked to be executed. There was not a moment that our team stepped out of the mandate because SADC is an old organisation with established outlines of how it is supposed to operate, you cannot change that,” said Mumba.

“There has been a lot of politics and misinformation.

“If we do not have proper elections in our region, problems in one country that is probably strangling the neck of democracy are going to flow out to other countries in the region.”

Mumba said Zimbabwe knew where to go if it felt aggrieved at the manner in which it might assume they handled themselves.

“I did not go to Zimbabwe as a representative of Zambia, that is why we are counselling our colleagues who are all hyped up that I was part of this project and there is now a conflict between the two countries. That was a SADC mission,” said Mumba.

“SADC has its own rules in which Zimbabwe has channels to go to Gaborone and present their complaints about the report. It is a SADC report and not a Nevers Mumba report.

“This is a job which was given to us by SADC to which Zimbabwe is a member and Vice Chair, they know how it rolls.

“There are three pillars to check whether the election is credible, the constitution, the electoral act of Zimbabwe and the SADC principles and guidelines for democratic elections.

“We did not stray, the SADC booklet gives us permission to interrogate any law that impedes a free and fair election, since you are a signatory to this protocol of SADC you have to go back and look at your laws and make sure they align with these democratic norms.

“We do not tell them to make or change laws, we point out those that are obstructive, retrogressive and hinder free flow of democratic processes. As long as a country signs up to this then they must be held accountable to this.

“They misguided themselves, whether it is deliberate or not. Zimbabwe is one of the oldest members of SADC, the Zimbabwean government knows it is the Vice Chair of SADC, they know about the SADC booklet.”

The PF claimed the gassing incidents were acts of sabotage by the UPND.

Govt To Extradite Sean Tembo To Botswana?

HOW SEAN TEMBO DEFRAUDED THE GOVERNMENT OF BOTSWANA AND FLED

By Staff Reporter

Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader Sean Tembo defrauded the government of Botswana and fled the country it has emerged.

Tembo ended up in the High Court of Botswana for fraudulent data collection when he was engaged to conduct research on the effects of alcohol on youths in neighbouring Botswana.

The government of Botswana through the Ministry of Health and Wellness lost thousands of Pula as a result of Tembo’s falsified “work”.

This has been confirmed in a Judgement obtained from the Registry of the High Court of Botswana under Cause Number CVHGB-002065-14 ruled by Judge M. T. Motswagole.

The Judge ruled that Mr. Sean Tembo’s conduct description of being “dishonest and unprofessional” was too mild as his actual conduct was dishonest and most likely amounted to attempt to obtaining money by false pretences, or stealing by conversion; considering that he received the sum of * P100 000.00 (One hundred thousand Pula) as advance payment for empirical investigation and data collection, which he did not carry out, but instead falsified it. (*Pula 100,000 is approximately K112, 000 Zambian Kwacha)

Judge Motswagole further ruled that it was established during trial that no data collection tools were developed by Mr. Tembo as the questionnaire that he attached to his report claiming that it was a data collection tool he had developed for the purpose, turned out to be a document he uplifted from the World Health Organisation, which had been used elsewhere used for a different purpose.

Page 33 of the judgement also established that even Tembo’s Final Comprehensive Report of the research had the same fraudulent deficiency ; and that Sean Tembo had admitted and conceded during trial that he had only collected data in Gaborone and from one institution in Lobatse; thereby cheating the terms of reference.

Furthermore, the judgement also established that it was irrefutable that Mr. Sean Tembo had received advance payment from the Government of Botswana for the sole purpose of data collection. The judge also ruled that it was indisputable that Sean Tembo did not use the funds he received from the Government of Botswana on their intended purpose; even though Tembo held out his falsified report as if it were genuine and informed by empirical data when in fact not; as it was in fact a falsified document.

Additionally, Judge Motswagole went on to rule that Sean Tembo held out his fraudulent final report as if it were a genuine product of a joint scholarly effort with some named behavioural experts when in fact not; adding that Tembo’s falsified final report was the result of a sole effort by an unqualified person namely Mr. Sean Tembo.(himself). The judge recommended a criminal investigation in the Judgement.

When his fraudulent ways were discovered,Sean Tembo hastily closed his “business” and dubious network of activities which he carried out from his office in Gaborone’s Commerce Park, and fled to Zambia in a hurry.

I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HIGH MEALIE MEAL PRICES – HICHILEMA TELLS KANYAMA RESIDENTS

I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HIGH MEALIE MEAL PRICES – HICHILEMA TELLS KANYAMA RESIDENTS

Thank you very much, people of Kanyama.

We are grateful for your continued support. Your appreciation towards our efforts in setting our country’s economic path on the right trajectory means a lot.

Your call on us to keep working towards the reduction of the cost of living is cardinal.

It is for this reason that we have intensified talks regarding the much needed fair pricing for mealie meal.

In the short term, we have intensified monitoring of those who could be smuggling our mealie meal and maize into other countries. We will stop this, and as this is being done, we have called on Millers to charge a fair price on mealie meal.

In the long run, we are calling on each citizen to take keen interest in farming and also support our policy that a farmer must be paid well for their maize in order for them to be motivated to grow more and subsequently mealie meal prices will drop.

We are in this together, and we must all get involved.

However, to colleagues that think, we are timid by being kind and that they can break the laws and entertain thoughts of illegal take over of government including undemocratic coup d’état, our only word is that; We are coming for you and we will not allow you to make Zambians start running around as is the case in some places.

Once more. Thank you, people of Kanyama, for voting for us, and yes, as the Hakainde Hichilema family, we will sink a borehole in each of the wards in Lusaka District and challenge all those that can to join us in this initiative. Water is life.

Thank you, and thank you.

God bless our country.

Hakainde Hichilema
President of the Republic of Zambia.

Mnangagwa issues stern warning to SADC

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has shot back at the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)’s decision to seek the intervention of the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) in Zimbabwe’s August 23 and 24 poll dispute.

This week CCC said it decided not to challenge Mnangagwa’s re-election through the country’s courts because the crisis in Zimbabwe was not a legal issue, but a political one. The crisis has escalated tension between the opposition party and Mnangagwa’s government.

Speaking at his inauguration for a second term at the National Sports Stadium yesterday, Mnangagwa said: “The undermining of our national institutions and laws will not be condoned, under whatever guise. No country or group of persons should disregard the sovereign decisions and views of the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe.”

CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa is fervently pushing for Sadc’s mediation in the Zimbabwean crisis after dismissing last month’s elections as a “gigantic fraud”, which the Sadc and other foreign observer missions also condemned as failing to meet regional and international standards.

“We make no apologies for entrenching and protecting our unique Zimbabwean values, cultures and norms … Zimbabwe is a sovereign State and a friend to all and enemy of none. Our membership and engagement within Sadc, the African Union and United Nations and other countries in the comity of nations remains guided by the principles of mutual respect and the sovereign equality of nations as enshrined in the United Nations charter,” Mnangagwa said.

Sadc countries appear divided over the election outcome with the head of the regional body’s observer team Nevers Mumba maintaining that the elections deviated from the Sadc guidelines and local constitutional provisions.

The divisions appeared evident after several heads of State from Sadc, African Union and the rest of the world were conspicuous by their absence at Mnangagwa’s inauguration, while some countries were decent enough to send representatives.

Sitting Sadc Troika chairperson Hakainde Hichilema did not attend the inauguration. He sent his Foreign Affairs minister Stanley Kakubo.

Three heads of State out of the 67 invited attended the ceremony.

South African President Cyril Ramaposa was joined by his Mozambican and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) counterparts, Felipe Nyusi and Felix Tshisekedi, respectively.

Kenya, Eswatini and Tanzania sent their prime ministers while Botswana was represented by the country’s vice-president.

Mnangagwa promised to be tolerant to the opposition and promote democracy and the rule of law, which have been sticking issues in his first five-year rule.

“Under my leadership and the new Zanu-PF government, democracy, good governance, the rule of law and the politics of tolerance will be entrenched in line with the spirit and letter of our sacred national Constitution and laws. The institution of traditional leadership and freedom of worship will continue to be protected by my new government,” he said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration event, South African’s ruling party, African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula endorsed Mnangagwa’s victory saying Zimbabwe is a sovereign country.

“We had an election in Zimbabwe that was not marred by violence and was peaceful. We know what Zimbabwe want is prosperity and also regional integration.

“We are opposed to any form of sanctions on this country. As the ANC party, we respect the will of the people and sovereignty of the country. We know what imposition of unilateralism has done to nation States like Iraq and Afghanistan,” he said.

Mbalula said the United States’ position on the elections and their outcome was invalid as they were no saints on matters of elections.

“America is not the world police. We do not take advice from them and they cannot force us to reform because they too have their own problems,” he said.

Meanwhile, former First Lady Grace Mugabe received a standing ovation from the crowd gathered for the inauguration.

Former Vice-Presidents Joyce Mujuru and Phelekezela Mphoko also attended the event.
