Zambia Now Needs A New Crop Of Human Rights Defenders- Maiko Zulu

ZAMBIA NOW NEEDS A NEW CROP OF HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS

The other day I was listening to Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa’s radio interview with prominent journalist Kwangu Liwewe where he brought out the critical issue of how President Hakainde Hichilema has systematically or methodically silenced a number of critical voices in the area of activism, advocacy for good governance, public accountability and human rights defence by offering them lucrative appointments in institutions controlled by the system. Others have been offered opportunities that have softened their stance on a number of issues of national interest. Nothing wrong with the move. Having been in opposition for years, HH knows the power of certain independent voices and the importance of having them in his pocket.

I was reminded of an incident not so long ago when I reached out to one colleague asking him if we could take an interest into the issue of the alleged impending stripping of assets and closure of Zambia’s oldest newspaper and national archive the Times of Zambia, a situation which will likely see a number of workers being laid off. The response from my colleague was a complete opposite of how he and all of us would react only a few months ago under the PF regime. My colleague was more concious now if bering labelled an ‘activist for hire’ than he was of standing for the plight of fellow citizens when in fact we were given worse labels before and still advocated for that which we thought was just. Anyway, events that unfolded in later days only went to comfim our suspicion that indeed, some of our friends have transitioned.

The fact is that every change of regime makes for subsequent change in all other spaces and It is therefore necessary for the Human Rights Defence space to give a rebirth to citizens who will fill the gaps left by those who have transitioned. There is need for individuals who will not tie activism to soliciting for funding as a basis for championing for good governance to begin to take up the space once again. While it is necessary to have funded institutions everywhere, they must never be the sole determinants of critical social movements. Public accountability must be embedded in every citizen especially the youth and it must be everyone’s duty to be the nation’s gate keepers.

THE PRESIDENT IS LYING- Dr. Fred M’membe

THE PRESIDENT IS LYING
By Dr. Fred M’membe, President of the Socialist Party Zambia
It is unbelievable that Mr Hakainde Hichilema is claiming credit for the construction of the Kazungula bridge!
Here is what Mr Hichilema recently told a conference of judges in Livingstone: “We could have bought a lot of school desks for the kids. We could have also invested in one or two border posts. As Kazungula border post is now delivering value. I hope the Kazungula Council Chairperson is here and MP is here. We spent around 240 million dollars on that bridge, that’s across the river, 900 metres of the bridge, 900 metres, close to a kilometre. And before we spent that money on that bridge Chief Justice, the revenue we were getting around there was very little. Since we invested in that bridge, we are now earning so much money, including now being able to get the pay back from that money within two to three years, complete payback. This government wants to invest money prudently and not waste it in certain areas of expenditure. We expect and we know we have the support of the judiciary.”

This is pulling the string a tad-bit out of control. It’s overstretching it. Mr Hichilema and his UPND government had nothing to do with the construction of the Kazungula bridge. It was conceived and constructed under the previous governments.

Mr Hichilema is lying and claiming credit that is not due to him. But what is propelling Mr Hichilema to tell such blatant lies and claim credit that is not due to him? Our simple and only explanation is that this may be a very serious case of narcissism.

A healthy – even sometimes inflated – sense of self can be a good thing. In fact, some researchers believe that those who have somewhat grandiose views of themselves are mentally tougher, less stressed, and less at risk of depression.
However, narcissism exists on a spectrum. On one side, it’s craving the occasional compliment, on its darkest side, it can creep into pathological territory.

The hallmark signs of narcissistic personality disorder read like a laundry list of what NOT to look for in a significant other; an inflated sense of self-importance, a lack of empathy for others, and a deep need for constant attention or admiration.

While someone with narcissistic personality disorder’s self-esteem can be off the charts, ironically, it can also be super fragile, dependent on external validation, or self-deception. They’ll believe grandiose fantasies about themselves, i.e. that they’re smarter and more successful than everyone they know, easily put other people down, and generally hijack any situation to make themselves feel better or superior. Feeling “less than perfect” is very uncomfortable for a narcissist, and they’ll protect themselves from it at all costs.

The real problem with a narcissistic personality disorder is that the individual lacks good insight into what’s going on. They think that the problem is all about everyone else, not them.

Amilcar Cabral told us: “Hide nothing from the masses of our people. Tell no lies. Expose lies whenever they are told. Mask no difficulties, mistakes, failures. Claim no easy victories.”

ETHIOPIA SAYS IT WILL INVESTIGATE THE DEATHS OF 27 OF ITS CITIZENS

0

Ethiopia’s government will investigate the reported deaths of 27 of its citizens found in a farming area on the outskirts of Lusaka, Ethiopia’s state news agency said on Monday.

Zambian police said preliminary investigations showed the victims were all men aged between 20 and 38, whose bodies had been dumped along a road by unknown people.

A sole survivor was found alive in the early hours of Sunday morning and rushed to a Lusaka hospital for treatment, police said.

According to the statement, the Government of Ethiopia expressed its deepest sorrow over the tragedy and it is collaborating with the Government of Zambia to send experts to the area to confirm the identities of the citizens who allegedly lost their lives while attempting to cross into South Africa illegally.

It further says investigation into the circumstances surrounding those who passed away in Malawi earlier this year is being conducted by a team led by the ministry of foreign affairs.

It said the incident demonstrates the continued need for coordinated efforts from citizens and relevant Government agencies to reduce the harm that human trafficking causes to citizens.

Meanwhile, the Department of Immigration says it has set up a joint investigations team to investigate the death of the 27 foreign nationals who were discovered dumped on a road in Meanwood Khosi area on Sunday.

Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka says the team includes officers from the immigration department, Zambia police and others.

Mr. Nshinka told ZNBC news that the foreign national who was found alive and rushed to the hospital is in a stable condition and responding well to treatment.

Mr. Nshinka added that the identities of all the deceased and the survivor are yet to be established.

And Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said investigations have intensified into matter involving the twenty-Seven bodies that were dumped in Lusaka’s Meanwood Nkosi Area.

Some residents of Lusaka’s Meanwood Nkosi Area are shunning to use the road where the 27 bodies of suspected foreign nationals were dumped.

A Check by ZNBC News in the area found the road is empty and residents are using alternative routes.
Meanwhile the road still has some of the belongings for the deceased foreign nationals scattered on the road.
The 27 bodies were discovered on Sunday and police suspect the were dumped on the road after suffering suffocation.
One person was however found gasping for breath and was rushed to the hospital.

ZAMBIANS UNHAPPY…President and team must explain high fuel, fertiliser and mealie meal – Nevers Mumba

ZAMBIANS UNHAPPY …President and team must explain high fuel, fertiliser and mealie meal – Nevers

By Fanny Kalonda

MMD president Nevers Mumba has asked the UPND to speak to Zambians about the challenges they are facing in fulfilling the promises made to during campaigns.

He said if the UPND does not communicate, they may achieve their goals and achievements but without Zambians.
Mumba said the UPND needs to identify that Zambians are unhappy about increased fuel prices, fertiliser distribution and the cost of mealie meal.

“We are telling the UPND that we understand. Personally I do understand that their compass is on the true North. If they can keep going in that direction they will achieve but if they don’t explain the steps that they’re taking, the Zambians will go separate ways. And that’s just the way it is,” he warned.“…it’s being able to explain the difficulties you are finding as a government. How much time you think you will need to correct that. Respect the Zambians. Talk to them and ensure that they are with you. So for me and us in the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, we are in partnership with them and therefore we want to make sure that they understand that we are supporting them, the decisions they are making, but these decisions must be explained to the Zambian people.”
Mumba, who featured on KBN’s state of the nation programme on Thursday, said there is need for UPND to go back to all the contentious issues and address Zambians.

“To our colleagues in the UPND including the President, all that he needs to do, and all they must do is to go back to each one of those contentious issues and address the Zambian people. ‘I told you 14:00 hours. I’m not able to do 14:00 hours because of ABCD.’ The reason why that is important is because there’s no straight line. I’ll give you an example. Mr Michael Chilufya Sata of the Patriotic Front when he came into government, he should not have been allowed to become president, but he told the Zambian people three things, ‘you shall have money in your pockets, lower taxes, and plenty of jobs within 90 days’. He even gave it a time slot…” he recalled. “So we have a situation where sometimes we advise each other that once you make a promise, it’s not wrong for you to promise people that your intention is to do this. But when you realise that government works in a different way, and it’s got hurdles, talk to them. But I think that what this government needs to do is to identify all these, what they call in the United States hot buttons, and address them without fear or favour. They should not be quiet and thinking that Zambians will forget about the promises. They should explain that the reason ‘this has not been done is because we have found this hurdle. We are working on it. Give us another two months. Give us another two years we will work on this’.”

He said his goal is not for President Hakainde Hichilema to fail but for him to succeed.
“The fact that somebody is in government, his party is government, does not mean he is worse than the guy who’s with you in the opposition. It doesn’t work like that. You know what happens today is that you’ll be doing very well with your colleague when you’re still in the opposition together, and you become friends, and you are fighting the same evils together. And when your friend becomes President or he forms government, he becomes an enemy just because he becomes President. I think that’s a lack of morality. But there’s this concept that as long as you’re in opposition, you hit at the guy who is in the ruling party, and that is where we become disunited. But I think we should give space to a new government to start to create an environment within which it can succeed,” Mumba said. “My goal is not for HH to fail. My goal is for him to succeed. Some other political leaders want him to fail so that they become…and that’s not how you become. I’ll give you an example. My older brother, he’s late now, president Sata had a very unique way of campaigning in the opposition. He didn’t hold back and he said things that we can’t repeat on television. But he won the hearts of people for that attitude. But then when he got into government, he couldn’t really roll it out. And it is really what we need to be discussing, what type of democracy do we want Zambia as a Christian nation to have and demonstrate to the rest of the world?”

He said the reason he is not criticising President Hichilema publicly is because he has his ear.
“I am committed in contributing to making Zambia better, and actually changing the way politics is done. That is why I get into trouble. And people tell me you cannot become president because you don’t know how to insult, you don’t know how to become ugly because everybody who becomes president first has to be ugly against those in government,” Mumba said. “If you haven’t heard me shout and scream against President Hakainde Hichilema is because I have his ear right now. I can talk to him. And I’ve talked to him over many things ever since he became President. And so it will really be pure politics if after I’ve talked with him about the issue, and I said what is happening on the ground is ABCD, and Mr President, you know, think about this. I think that I would have discharged a responsibility. It does not give me a big name to those who want me to insult but it gives me a participation in making Zambia better if he changes his mind about something and gets advice. I think that for me I would have achieved something.”

He said he recently presented a letter to the President on how the fight against corruption can be strengthened stressing that “the way it is going it may end up a disaster without achieving the goals it is supposed to”.

“So when I criticise concerning the fight against corruption, I have to criticise within the ambit of the fact that we have got that ear that we can talk to him but if they say that ‘no, we don’t care about this, this is the way we’re gonna go’, then we have two separate views on that matter. I will not be exaggerating, if I say that at the moment, even all the colleagues in the opposition, I may be the most senior today. So some of these issues, I fully understand what really makes a difference. If I had wanted a job, I would have gotten a job a long time ago. What we want is Zambia that our children and the days Zambians will believe my passion for this country of Zambia shall be saved, those questions will stop to be asked,” he said.

“I don’t spend my time on variables. I want to make that clear. I’m not going to spend my political arm to, too senior in politics, to be talking about the variables which are going to change tomorrow. Then I become irrelevant. I want to become relevant over a span of time. So I think for me, I understand that mealie meal can be where it is now because you are switching in a country where the debt stock is so high that you have to manoeuvre the cost of things. Now here is what I think needs to happen and what is missing. What is missing is the UPND explaining on a daily basis. The President said the mealie meal will be reduced to K250. But it’s not reduced today. The President and his team must explain the reasons why it has delayed.”

Mumba said what is missing “is that the President and the team have to put voice behind these issues”.
“They have to identify that Zambians are unhappy about increased fuel prices. Zambians are unhappy about the fertiliser distribution. Zambians are unhappy about the cost of mealie meal. Zambia’s are unhappy about the things that make their lives comfortable, medicines in hospital, and it’s the job of this administration to face that camera and speak to the Zambian people because life is not a straight line. Even if I took over today, the change is not going to be a straight line,” said Mumba. “…it’s like at home, let’s be fair to politicians. We have wives at home. We have children at home. And it is important that when we are discussing things that relate to building the family, we don’t let the whole world be part of it. But this is a government and I do understand and politically, you become popular in Zambia by raising your voice even when what you’re saying is not founded on facts. That’s why we have problems in our democracy in Zambia. Zambians have voted for people that have nothing within them to guide them but because they could shout and they cannot even test those statements that are making against truth, but because it’s the way politics is, they become more popular. But if you and I agree that we are going to work together, we have a programme together, Zambians should judge us and you on the basis of that programme.

FISP PLUNDER & ZAMBIAN PRESIDENTS

FISP PLUNDER & ZAMBIAN PRESIDENTS

We just concluded our investigation on the FISP and why there is failure by the new dawn government to give farmers Umufundo on time until this day.

National Leaks is an emerging site which wants to share in the public domain very important information which some people and institutions want to hide. Realising that the Zambian media space has become too weak and vulnerable to compromise and legal attacks, we opted to remain anonymous for the benefit of Zambians. We are passionate about our work and we are patriots who want the correct things done. You can be assured that when we pick a topic ,there is always public interest.

For some time now FISP has been used as a conduit for thieves to steal from poor Zambians and farmers. But how did we get here?

LEVY MWANAWASA

FISP started during Levy Mwanawasa. He wanted farmers to make maximum use of Zambian land and to achieve this he had to support both commercial wealthy farmers and poor Zambian farmers. Mwanawasa turned around Zambia’s food deficit by playing two cards.

First when he described Zimbabwe as a sinking titanic he managed to lure white commercial farmers from Zimbabwe and had them settled in Mkushi. When you drive around Mkushi you will appreciate Mwanawasa’s efforts. Almost all white commercial farmers there came from Zimbabwe during Mwanawasa’s time. And today Zambia is almost exporting wheat grown by White farmers.

The second card was to support poor and small scale Zambian farmers by providing them with subsidised farming inputs. This programme was introduced to jumpstart small scale farming so that they can graduate into self dependent.

What a brilliant leader he was , for this we remain indebted to Mwanawasa for decades.

Where did it all go wrong?

Mwanawasa had a notorious classmate at UNZA by the name of Gulam Patel who started frequenting statehouses . When Gulam was officially opening International drug company factory in Kabwe he invited his classmate Mwanawasa as guest. Gulam’s elder brother , Mr Ayuub Patel , a man of such integrity and principle that very few if any would match globally , gave a speech telling Mwanawasa that “we do not want after many years when you leave office that someone must say that Mwanawasa was a corrupt leader”.

Little did Ayub know that betrayal was to start from within .Ayumb’s young brother Gulam formed a fertiliser import company with his children as shareholders .Maurice Jangulo was brought in from Omnia , and tenders were filled .

Meanwhile Mwanawasa had asked Gulam to arrange someone from Eastern province to help the MMD at the grassroots because Michael Sata was eating the Bemba bloc and Gulam suggested Rupiah Banda .That is how Rupiah, a UNIPist became vice President in MMD. For picking him from the farm and salvaging him from poverty, Rupiah was ever indebted to Gulam and his family.

RUPIAH BANDA

When Mwanawasa died all hell broke loose and corruption began. Gulam bankrolled
Rupiah’s presidential bid and after he won, Nyiombo investments started getting contracts , including single sourced ones and at times supplying rotten fertiliser to the government for the FISP distribution. Rupiah knew of this but did not care much because it was pay back time to Gulam and family.

Then Gulam then decided to sell the shares he held in the Post newspaper because Fred M’membe had supported Magande after Mwanawasa died. When Rupiah won, M’membe became anti- Rupiah until MMD lost power to PF of Michael Sata.

MICHAEL SATA

When PF won elections all Nyiombo Investment payments were blocked by the state which felt the company was going to finance MMD rebranding because it was too close to Rupiah Banda. At this point Sata feared MMD would bounce back and he was finding ways to kill the former ruling party. He first started strangling businesses believed to have links to Rupiah before he focused on destroying the MMD party by poaching MP into his cabinet and petitioning all seats that were won by MMD.

Sponsored protests against Nyiombo were staged as Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) workers started protests accusing Nyiombo of blocking NCZ from producing fertiliser. That is how Nyiombo was systematically destroyed by Sata administration.

Now Gulam’s nephew Zunaid Yusuf formed his own company called Neria Investment with a lawyer Bokani Soko to disguise its true ownership. At one point, Gulam took Zunaid Yusuf to court over this move but he eventually backed off after his nephew managed to capture the Sata administration.

EDGAR LUNGU

After the demise of Sata, Bokani Soko hastily pumped a lot of money in EdgarLungu’s presidential bid. This is how Nerias Investment and another new company Nyimba Investment began to share the cake in the supply of fertiliser in Zambia.

For example it is during Edgar Lungu’s tenure that NCZ was supplied with raw materials by Neria with payments of up to $70m made for undelivered materials.

At this point, Maurice Jangulo was kicked out and Nyiombo was liquidated with millions of dollars for foreign companies , foreign banks , local transporters , foreign transporters all lost. Jangulo was warned by Gulam that he would be finished off at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka .

Millions of dollars were lost in inflated prices , undelivered fertiliser though payments collected ,debt swaps made on the same day the Attorney General advised against etc.

Jangulo formed Alpha Commodities and got small contracts under PF and he was secretly bankrolling HH and UPND.

HAKAINDE HICHILEMA

When HH won elections Maurice Jangulo began calling the shots in fertiliser tenders together with another man a Mr Ibrahim. Although there are other suppliers like Agrizam, Alpha commodities is the one at the centre now. Jangulo is the main man calling shots that is why he even managed to get a $50 million dollar single sourced contract to supply fertiliser in the 2021/2022 farming season following an audit which he personally conducted using his proxy firms to punish those who fought him previously.

HH’s administration also has done what Sata did. He flashed out all suppliers under PF and brought in new ones except for Alpha Commodities. The new suppliers are owned by cadres and supporters of UPND but it is Jangulo who decides how much such companies get.

MAURICE JANGULO AUDIT

But in order to legitimize the removal of PF linked suppliers, Jangulo using Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary and some other officials instituted audits to determine if indeed the PF linked suppliers were delivering fertilizer to government for the money they got paid for. Jangulo was doing this knowing very well that Neria Investment would be found wanting since he knows the players very well. As expected the audit revealed what was already known. Bokani Soko who is close to Edgar Lungu often collected payments for goods undelivered and nothing was done by the government because he was seen to be a Lungu guy. Recently Anti Corruption Commission arrested Former Agriculture PS Songowayo Zyambo, former Principal Agricultural Economist Grey Mwale and former Principal Accountant Emmanuel Kabwe as well as Neria Investment owners Bokani Soko , Justin Kasenekwa, Muhammad Zuneid Ismail Yusuf and Nadeem Yusuf over a $131,142,682.65 million payment to Neria Investment by government for undelivered fertilizer.

CONCLUSION

FISP was intended by Mwanawasa to put food on the plates for every Zambian and not to take away food from people. Unfortunately, all Presidents after him have messed up by involving the supporters and associates in the supply chain.

Right now HH claims they’re adulting FISP as a result that has delayed distribution of umufundo to farmers but the real reason is that UPND has changed suppliers and introduced theirs who have no capacity to supply fertilizer. They will only have capacity when they’re paid money for fertilizer not delivered.

This is how Zambian Presidents are facilitating criminality and taking advantage of poor Zambians using FSIP.

My new party won’t entertain politics of character assassination- Mwenya Musenge

0

By Fanny Kalonda

NEWLY formed Advocates for People’s Prosperity (APP) president Mwenya Musenge says his party will not entertain politics of character assassination and violence from any member as its core business is giving progressive checks and balances.

He said although his party has not been launched yet its approach would be different and more focused on the poor who have been neglected for a long by previous regimes.

“…this serves to inform you that Advocates for People’s Prosperity (APP) is a new political party that has come to uplift the standard of living of majority poor Zambians,” he said. “Our approach will be very different and more focused on the poor majority because we feel that despite being the majority voters, they have been neglected for so long by the previous regimes and even today the trend has not changed. We shall not entertain politics of character assassination, insults, violence from any APP member because our core business is none other than a credible and progressive checks and balances.”

In a statement issued by APP secretary general Felix Bwalya, Musenge said the party would not be appointing people based on who they are in society or level of education “but everyone will be given a task to show they are capable of serving the people”.

He disclosed the current positions as Musenge (president), Kebby Mulimbika (vice-president, Felix Bwalya (secretary general), Menard Monta (deputy secretary general), Edward Eliya Cheembela (treasurer general), John Musole Kasanga (national mobilisation chairman, Davies Ng’andwe Chipili (deputy national mobilisation), Francis Nkandu (national youth chairman), and David Chilando is the national chairman in charge of agriculture.

“APP is yet to be launched and for now I’m appealing to all who would like to be our leaders or members to start working immediately by creating sections. A section is our lowest organ or level in our party structures followed by a branch, ward, constituency, district, province and then national levels. We have just started and we don’t want to be appointing people based on who they are in a society (poor, rich or powerful), education, etc but everyone is given a task to show us that he or she is capable of serving the people by starting up a section then depending on how they will perform they will be graduating to next levels until they reach to the top ranks,” explained Musenge. “We want to be building up leaders not followers because we believe that everyone was created to be a leader and serve in various capacities. Those interested please start the work and for any guidance on how it can be done don’t hesitate to contact me directly. A Section can be an area covering five to 20 houses depending on the distances between the houses. Organise and mobilise people in those houses, tell them about APP and our mission…”

EVERY CHILD HAS A STORY …”I had no girlfriend because of my status “– DR JOBBICKS KALUMBA, FORMER EDUCATION PS

EVERY CHILD HAS A STORY – DR JOBBICKS KALUMBA, FORMER EDUCATION PS

…”I had no girlfriend because of my status “

“I come from a family of six, the last born in the family. I was born on 24th October, 1964. So, I’ll be celebrating my 57th [birthday]. Guys, maybe it will be your first time to hear my story. I was going to Luwingu Secondary School for my secondary education,” Dr Kalumba says.

“I had only two trousers, two shorts, one pair of shoes, one pair of stockings, one blanket. In those years, we didn’t have mattresses. We were using bunkers. So that one blanket I had, I was using it in two ways; you spread on the bed and then the other flip of the blanket I covered myself. That was life! One Sunday morning, it was 7th March, as I was waking up from that bunker bed, [I] checked on the bed and saw a louse on the bed. I said okay, that’s how life is.”

He recalls that during the rainy season, water used to sip inside this damaged shoe and that the stockings were producing a bad scent.

Dr Kalumba says he used to sit at the back of the classroom.

“I had no girlfriend because of my status! One tablet of soap – Ebuoy – and then a bottle of Vaseline! Those items kept me going for five years. I wrote my Form V examinations on a borrowed shirt because my uniform had become torn,” he says.

“So my friend helped me with a shirt which I used during the time of my examinations. Whenever school closed, because I had no transport money from home, I used to go to Mr Njobvu who was my geography teacher and that motivated me to train as a geography teacher. I worked in his garden and then he could give me some transport money to take me back home to Mbala where I come from.”

The former permanent secretary for Ministry of Education adds that whenever he reached home, his mother and him used to carry paraffin (kerosene) on their heads to go and sell to the fishermen at Lake Tanganyika.

Dr Kalumba says the distance between his village and the lake is 45 kilometres.

“So, that was really something that was difficult for me. When my mother was somehow tired alone, carrying paraffin to the lake, there was and still there is a very big tree which had a curved shape. So, she would offload her katundu (luggage) and then put it on that log and then she was resting,” Dr Kalumba explains, to a silent audience.

“After resting, she would bend below the log and then the load would fall on her head and she went to sell the merchandise to the lake, just to raise money for me to go to school. That’s why, guys, when you talked about free Education, to some of us who have gone through that scenario we understand the pain that our children go through – those who are coming from poverty-stricken homes. But education remains their hope for tomorrow.”

He narrates that last year when he went to Mbala, the first thing that he did was to go and check whether the tree where his mother used to rest at is still there.

Dr Kalumba says he “fortunately” found the tree and sat there, remembering his days of suffering.

“Rolling back the curtains of memory to see where God is getting me from, where I was and where I am today, I said let me give glory to God. But again some tears had to flow down from my eyes because when I began my job as a primary school teacher, a month later my mother passed away,” he narrates.

“So, when I look at what God has done in my life, I say if my mother was around today it would be a different story. So, it’s true that every child has a story. Education is the foundation of this country. For us in the Ministry of Education, education is the foundation and the footing of this nation and every institution that is supporting the learning of the children, in whatever form, needs support and recommendation.”

WHY THE BEES GATHERED AROUND A BAG DURING THE ZESCO UNITED VS FOREST RANGERS MATCH

WHY THE BEES GATHERED AROUND A BAG DURING THE ZESCO UNITED VS FOREST RANGERS MATCH ( LONG READ)

So Zambian Football Social Media was “abuzz” yesterday with news that the game between Zesco United and Forest Rangers had been halted due to a swarm of bees descending on the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Pictures were shared of the players, referees and ball boys ducking and going on the ground.

One Picture that really trended though was off the bees swarming around a Black Bag.

People asked questions varying from whether someone carried the bees in the bag to what the bag contained for the bees to be swarming around it.

All in all the appearance of bees in unexpected places is as times in some cultures attributed as supernatural.

With so many people asking and inboxing about the bees I decided to reach out to an expert on the matter.

I contacted Beekeeping in Zambia and they were kind enough to respond to the querry and they explained why bees would land at Levy Mwanawasa and swarm a bag.

Here is the FULL Interview I had with them.

Me: Morning,

My name is Punch Chama and I’m a sports Presenter and a Zambian Football blogger and would like to pose a question.

There was a Zambian League football match that took place yesterday in Ndola and pictures have been circulating of a swarm of bees gathering around a Black Bag.

The question is why would bees gather around the black bag?

Hope to hear from you.

Regards

Punch Chama

Beekeeping in Zambia: Goodmorning.

Thanks for your query.

First and foremost, bees are so important to our ecosystem are found on all the continents except cold areas like Antarctica.

Bees help pollinate about 70 percent of the crops.

Most people know the bees because they produce honey but we can also get beeswax, propolis, pollen, bee bread, apitoxin, royal jelly, etc with medicinal benefits but so much under exploited in Zambia.

Now to respond to your query: bees as living animals reproduce and it is by splitting ( imagine a big village splitting because there is not enough land for farming for food, not enough land for building their house or they can even abandon the whole village due to hunger in the village, thieves terrorizing the village, etc.

Similarly either bees may abandon their home which we call a beehive or they split from the main group.

In both cases, it will involve moving from one place to a new place looking for new sources of food, new home or safety/ peace (if it is people economic migrants moving from Africa in search of greener pastures or as refugees running from conflict to seek shelter or peace in another place.

Now as the bees move to another place, they may get tired and need rest.

They will find rest anywhere.

It can be in a car, in your garden, on a tree, bicycle, shop, hospital, I mean anywhere and anything they find along the flight route.

Once they take rest and in 1 -3 hours, they will leave the place peacefully.

Bees on the move rarely sting unless provoked.

Bees sting because they are defending themselves or their home (hive).

The bees will only be on the offensive or attack mode if where they are coming from someone disturbed or destroyed the home ( hive).

So the bees on the bag that passed the stadium were in transit and decided to take a rest.

Bees are so intelligent that they cannot find a bag to be a home but resting while transiting.

In such cases, contact an experienced beekeeper to get them.

Do not kill them as they are very important to our environment and give us sweet honey.

So many farmers are keeping bees and make money by selling honey.

Do not associate bees with witchcraft or kill them.

Yes, they will sting to defend themselves when provoked and human also defend themselves when provoked.

Hope this answer will be satisfying and will be willing to clarify more.

I am a beekeeper of 18 years experience.

A LUSAKA WOMAN WHO DUMPED BOYFRIEND YEARS BACK WANTS HIM BACK BECAUSE HE’S NOW A DOCTOR

“I’m very sorry for my actions. I didn’t know what came over me. I can’t imagine myself living the rest of my life without you…!” Victoria has told John.

He’s a doctor now with a good salary… On 10th December, 2022, sitting comfortably at home celebrating his birthday, he received a birthday present, and when he looked, he saw that it was from Victoria, his ex girlfriend.

“To the man I love with all my heart and soul, I wish you all the best as this day may bring nothing upon your life but blessings,” wrote Victoria.

Upon hastily, John orderd that let the birthday present be returned to Victoria without any question. People present that day placed upon him a blame that he was not supposed to reject the present from a person who loved him so dearly as it’s very rare for a lady to buy a present for her man.
“I don’t want any gift from this girl. It’s a trap!” Chorused John.

On many occasions, John has rejected gifts and money from Victoria.

She’s an average tall young lady with a hip which is capable of putting in prison the heart of almost any man who may come across her.

In his second year as a student studying doctorate at the University of Zambia, as he was looking for a woman to date among the daughters of Jezebel, he met Victoria who served him grace and favor, and she became his girlfriend.

John was from a humble background, and his opportunity to study at UNZA was because 75% was sponsorship and 25% came from Catholic organization.

In his sixth year, Victoria enrolled at the National Institute of Public Administration.
The following year, that was 2020 John completed and entered the world in its length.

In the second year, term 3, Victoria lamented to him that she was facing financial constraints at the institution.

John was not employed yet, but he made a valiant and dauntless effort, and led by the promise between them that they would get married immediately after Victoria’s completion, he carried upon his shoulders the responsibility. He worked for trade Kings and decided to bank for the second and third year of his girlfriend’s school fee, and he paid until she completed.
Their relationship was fine until the appearance of a “have you received your ka K1,000 into your account” type.

His first disappointment came on the day his girlfriend graduated.

His salary permitted him to rent a one bedroom apartment in John Howard compound… Nonetheless, he managed to buy presents and gifts for his graduating Princess.

He hired a scrap metal in form of a Toyota Corolla from his friend as easy movement to the graduation square.

As names were being called, came the moment Victoria was called out. She stood up and matched forward majestically like a queen from among other graduands. Sitting on a bench waiting to present his gifts to his Queen, as she returned from there, John was left wearing sunglasses of shock as he saw a man rising from the East with expensive gifts presenting them to her.

He [the man] presented to him a Huawei mobile phone and a brown envelope containing kwachas of money. Later that day, John wanted to ask Victoria about the man but nowhere was she found; was only informed that she had been seen with a Toyota Hilux man going to Levy mall. He got his friend’s scrap metal (Toyota Corolla) and drove there, and only to be surprised to find her with a man in his 40s.

“I’m really tired of you, John. When are you going to make things right?” Sung Vicky.

“Victoria, you can’t leave me today! Think about all the years we’ve been together!” Cried John but she had made up her mind. That was proper satire!

“She told me frankly that she was tired of dating a man who can’t find a job, a broke guy and that I should allow her to enjoy herself,” says John.

In August 2022 John was employed as a full time doctor by the New Dawn Government.

Victoria only enjoyed the money of the blesser for a short period of time as he wanted nothing from her but sex being a man who was after different cocottes for sex.

Victoria can not find a man like John who respects her and wants to be with her.
“I can’t find someone like you!” She says. She has lost him just for pieces of chicken and money from a rich man.

John stays in North Gardens now and is planning to marry a very beautiful young bemba woman, Elizabeth Mulenga this September.

Victoria wants him back in her life. She has one child whom she found after dumping John.

“I’m very sorry, Victoria, I’m marrying this year, we can’t get back together. It’s too late,” said John when Victoria went to his house to ask why he rejected the birthday gift sent to him!!

“I’m sorry for whatever I did to you. It really hurts me!” She said.

Learn to be patient always. You should be so intelligent enough to be able to differentiate between temporal and permanent things.

Any advice for John?

I Was Offered Money And A Job To Implicate Shebby Chilekwa, Says 54 Year Old Mongu Woman

I WAS OFFERED MONEY AND A JOB TO IMPLICATE SHEBBY CHILEKWA, SAYS 54 YEAR OLD MONGU WOMAN

FIFTY-Four year old, Brona Lubasi has testified before the Mongu High Court that Police officers from Lusaka led by Assistant Superintendent Uyoya Simuzi offered her money and a job if she implicated Shebby Chilekwa in the murder case of UPND cadre Lawrence Banda.

Testifying in a matter in which former PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri and Shebby Chilekwa, former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s barber, Lubasi of Mongu told the High Court that sometimes in November last year, three police officers led by Uyoya from Headquarters in Lusaka visited her at her house.

She explained that the visit was about turning her into a State witness.

Lubasi said Uyoya in the presence of other two officers and her husband, asked her what it meant to be a State Witness in the matter before court.

She said Uyoya informed her that Government had sent him together with other officers to make her a State witness and reward her with money and a job for her children to live a better life.

Lubasi said Uyoya was together with Donald Mulimba the arresting officer of both Phiri and Chilekwa when they visited offering money and a job.

“Last year in November around 07, I recieved a phone call asking where I was. They said they were police officers from Lusaka and had followed the Kaoma murder case. I told them that I was in Yeta Compound at home and they asked where it is located. I informed my husband, that it was police officers from Lusaka, who called. I removed the cloths I was wearing and wore the PF t shirt and walked to the road side so that I am easily recognised.

I saw three men approaching and I recognised Uyoya who was at Kaoma when the incident happened, he came from Lusaka, i also recognised him because we come from the same village, there was also Mulimba (Doland) he is a pastor at a Pentecostal Church and we call him Pastor Mulimba and the third person I did not him.

So officer Uyoya told me that we are here with regards to the incident that happened in Kaoma, and I told him that the books you are carrying they are coming from Mongu police so all you want it is in that books,” she explained.

Lubasi said they insisted that she gives a fresh statement and explaining what transpired on the 6th October, 2019 while, Uyoya and other two officers kept checking from the earlier statement made in 2019.

“I told them that the criminal (Lawrence Banda) had stabled me on the side rib with an iron bar he used to smash the Toyota Hilux with. And He asked me if I knew to be a state witness. So he told me what a state witness is the one who speaks for the state. They walked out of my house for 10 to 15 minutes,… and later he told me government will appreciate you by employing you or give you money if you say Chilekwa killed Lawrence Banda. At this point I told Uyoya that you can’t seek a promotion through me by implicating people by making me be a false witness. I told him that I will narrate in court the truth about what happened and all I know if you want you can kill me,” she said.

Lubasi told High Court Judge Charles Zulu that Uyoya and his team wanted her to name Chilekwa the driver as the killer of the UPND cadre.

“After those statement were taken they asked me to be their witness. I told them I will, and they said they have been sent by the state, and that I should state that the person that killed the UPND cadre (Lawrence Banda) was the driver (Chilekwa), they offered me money and a job but I refused,” said Lubasi.

Meanwhile, Lubasi insisted in court that Phiri was not among the people UPND cadre Brian Mulenga named to have been in the car and gave instructions to kill Banda.

She said she was the one incharge of the PF camp and sat on the front seat of the car which was attacked by UPND cadres.

Lubasi said Phiri was not there, adding that she never saw her in Site and Service where the crime is alleged to have happened.

In this case Mumbi Phiri and Shebby Chilekwa are facing one count of murder of UPND cadre Lawrence Banda in Kaoma on 6th October, 2019, during the council chairmanship by-election.

The matter has been adjourned to tomorrow for continued trial.

The entry and exit of James Ndambo

…the dilemma of a Zambian philanthropist

Amb. Anthony Mukwita wrote:

As a scholar, published author and diplomat, the story of James Ndambo, to me myself personally, provides a great case study of one of the reasons African nations fail to succeed, Ambassador Anthony Mukwita.

In July this year, I wrote a missive on James Ndambo, a Gauteng based Zambian businessman who had stolen the headlines on all conventional and online media in Zambia and beyond back then.

As a diplomat and published author, I always, if I have knowledge, I feel others do not possess, try to share it in order to remove often scurrilous rumour and speculation off the desk, for those interested to read.

The Ndambo frenzy was one such topic I took keen interest in, as I have previously widely written about the Electric Vehicle phenomenon or the scourge of cancer and how Zambia could be a leader in conquering the silent killer.

Because I was lucky to have personal knowledge of the humble businessman from way back in the early 90´s, the picture was easy to paint and when I did voila, eyes opened for many.

Unravelling James Ndambo, the philanthropist.

In one day, the legend of Ndambo was cracked wide open and the story I called, “The inspiration of James Ndambo” hit a total 260, 000 and was shared more than hundred thousand times across social media from my Facebook page. More than a quarter of a million people reached in one day.

In Zambia presently, no newspaper sells more than 30,000 copies a day due to a combination of factors ranging from high cost of living to cash scarcity, as Zambians decide to buy either a loaf of bread or a tabloid newspaper they can read online.

Did James Ndambo give Zambia hope when he hit the scene?

Ndambo was an ´overnight success´ and his star then was on the rise in Zambia, the reason for the Ndambo thirst, I have no scientific answer to it.
But a pundit colleague told me, “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is ´King´ while in the absence of water, people will drink sand.”

The pundit said, “I will explain to you later, but my basic premise is that people respond to someone or something in reaction to the state of affairs affecting them such as high costs of food, lack of opportunity etc at the particular time.”

She told me many Zambians reacted to voting out Super Ken in 1991 for a political rookie called FTJ because they just wanted change from the same old (27 years of KK) oppressive system of UNIP.
Americans voted out Donald Trump and opted for ´Uncle´ Joe Biden because Trump pushed the envelope to extremes where women he didn’t like were called fat and ugly, immigrants were called rapists and drug dealers while white supremacists such as the ´Proud Boys´ were celebrated by his administration.

So, what did the Ndambomania mean?

The Ndambo frenzy therefore was a real knee jerk reaction by many Zambians to the status quo (many exoerienced), a year after polls when they realised that fuel prices would continue rising after removal of subsidies and fertiliser prices would not drop.

It is a natural human behaviour for people to start looking for alternative leadership when things don’t work, Ndambo, albeit he held his hand to his chest and voiced that he was NOT the Alternative would always remain a threat to other power brokers because of the love from the masses.

Especially if there can only be one proverbial bull in the Kraal.

Remember everyone loves you until you become ´Competition. ´
Zambians saw him as an alternative according to analysts.

What did Ndambo bring to the table?

From one moment of despair, Ndambo became a shining light on the much needed
• Education Scholarships for young girls and women local and abroad
• Prospects of greener pastures
• Beauty pageants were redefined because even women who were not ´beautiful´ and not young (16) contested and won brand new Mercedes Benz and BMW cars and cash including huge passenger buses for their communities such as the one Ms Dora Siliya the former Petauke legislator won for her hometown
The list of ´goodwill hunting´ from this philanthropist through his charity initiative “My Home Town” in Choma village, southern Zambia became an overnight success, he was willing to spread his love and wealth all over the country.

Under normal circumstances in my view as a former Ambassador, former CEO, and published author, if someone came up with a working formular for poverty reduction, it must be embraced.
But alas the walls Ndambo built his charity story on came tumbling down, they didn’t even make a sound!

Between the period of July and now, the Ndambo house went mute, and the gift stopped giving, the lights went out.

We will probably never know why because we are not privy to the inside story.

The Flight of James Ndambo

What we know for sure is that James Ndambo had reached into his deep pockets and selflessly decided to help empower Zambians with plans to uplift themselves out of the chronic poverty rut experienced by many today.

His sincere attempt failed flat on its face or was systematically curtailed, so he packed his bags of charity and generosity and took it far away from Zambia to the west African nation of Ghana, a country whose GDP or total national wealth is about US$ 78 billion according to official stats, as Zambia trails at a measly US$20 billion. ´Santa ain´t coming home this Christmas´.

James Ndambo´s story is not much different from that of the biblical Joseph sold into slavery by his jealous brothers but emerges later through the grace of God as a “Don” in wealthy Egypt miles away from home.

Joseph in Egypt was a rich man of means in charge of food when his brothers needed only meagre supplies of grain to survive in their famished homeland.

As a scholar, published author and diplomat, the story of James Ndambo, to me myself personally, provides a great case study of one of the reasons African nations fail to succeed but until the day I can write an exhaustive thesis on this, my two ngwee ends here.

Ghana, however, in my conclusion has a lot to gain from this Zambian born Samaritan, Ghana´s gain, Zambia´s loss. Blessed is the hand that giveth than the one that taketh.

I am also certain that God will continue blessing James Ndambo as he continues to uplift many from poverty just because he can when he could have chattered a private jet to Ibiza.

Oh, snap James Ndambo already owns several luxurious private jets, he doesn’t need to charter one.

But will he return to Zambia one day?

SOCIALIST PARTY (ZAMBIA) PRESS STATEMENT

Dear friends from the media, the Fourth Estate, as the year 2022 comes to a close, we have called you so that through you we can update the Zambian people about the progress our party has been making. Some people may wonder why we wish to give the Zambian public a kind of progress report instead of giving it only to our members, who are interested parties.

Our response is simple. The Socialist Party Zambia is a movement by the people and for the people. It is a people party. It was formed for the people of Zambia as an alternative government, a government in waiting inspired by socialist values of equity, honesty, humility, and solidarity. As an alternative government, the Socialist Party Zambia and all opposition political parties are expected to champion the public good of providing checks and balances. This entails promoting transparency and accountability in the conduct of public affairs.

Against this background, it is clear that Zambians are major stakeholders in political parties, and the Socialist Party Zambia, to be specific. This is not only because the existence of opposition political parties makes multiparty democracy work in Zambia, but because we are major players in the governance system in terms of keeping the government and state institutions in check.

We therefore wish to report that the Socialist Party Zambia under the leadership of Comrade Dr Fred M’membe has made tremendous progress in growing the membership base. The party has been implementing a robust programme of membership mobilisation throughout the country with a lot of attention paid to recruitment and the training of leaders at various levels. The party has been well received and we believe that come the end of 2023, the party will have been transformed into a formidable political force.

The Socialist Party Zambia has been participating in by-elections in a manner that has sent a clear signal that we deserve to be taken seriously. This is despite the hostile political environment during the by-elections that we have experienced and witnessed so far.

Zambians have seen for themselves the violence and manipulation that the ruling United Party for National Development, UPND, has sponsored and encouraged. Our party has been a victim of this violence, intimidation and manipulation by the UPND, the worst been the attack on our campaign centre in Luangwa. Our vehicles were badly damaged and our innocent members locked up by the police for more than six days without charge.

As Dr Fred M’membe has repeatedly said, we love our country and we want it to succeed, with or without us. Despite all the challenges and violence directed at us, our party has not relented and we will never relent. We have a duty to ourselves and our country to make it a better place. We will continue to participate in by-elections and to play our role of providing checks and balances and speaking for the Zambian people.

We have alerted Zambians about the self-serving laws of Mr Hichilema’s government, such as the Securities (Amendment) Bill No.23 of 2022. We have also condemned the sacrificing of Zambia’s independence and sovereignty in exchange for selfish commercial interests by those in government who have chosen to hire themselves out as puppets of foreign powers and interests.

The Socialist Party Zambia has opposed the giving of tax holidays to mining companies thereby depriving our country of a fair share of our God-given resources. With the price of copper being high, we are losing a lot of money, which could have made a huge difference to the lives of our people.

In this vein, our party has condemned the contracting of a loan from the International Monetary Fund, IMF, when the government could have raised the money from the mines had they not made the reckless and selfish decision to offer senseless tax holidays.

Our leader Dr Fred M’membe has provided strong and timely condemnation of the tribalism of the UPND government as revealed in the appointments, with people from only three regions of the country sharing all the key government ministries and state institutions. This has been accompanied by ruthless victimisation of civil servants from other regions under the guise of being members of the former ruling party.

The Socialist Party has constantly reminded Mr Hichilema to honour his election promises. He needs to honour his word! Not all politicians are liars, but those who do not keep their word should be reminded and exposed. He promised to lower the cost of living but the cost of living has skyrocketed. They tried to manipulate the inflation rates, but this is no longer possible. Our people can’t afford medicines when given a prescription to go and buy them from chemists. The price of fuel is constantly on the rise contrary to the promise by Mr Hichilema to lower it using a formula that made rounds when he was campaigning ahead of the August 2021 general elections.

Our party has exposed the UPND government for having no discernible plan to grow the economy and strengthen the value of the Kwacha. As such, the Kwacha has been losing its value contrary to the popular promise that it would appreciate within hours of Mr Hichilema being sworn in. The list of shameless lies and failures is endless, but allow me to touch on the issue of fertiliser.

Mr Hichilema and his inept team again failed lamentably to deliver fertiliser to our people. In an attempt to conceal their corruption, they badly mismanaged FISP. They created confusion in the procurement process to facilitate single sourcing. In the end, our people who rely on FISP have been left hopeless and desperate by our so-called new dawn government. What really is new about UPND? The lies never end. Mr Hichilema informed the nation that under his administration, farmers would be getting eight bags of fertiliser each instead of the previous six. But the cooperatives have been getting less allocations of fertiliser, forcing them to share it using the popular measuring cane called meda.

Further, President Hichilema promised to reduce the price of fertiliser to K250, but the opposite has happened, with D-Compound fertiliser fetching K1,250 or more. This scenario has angered and depressed our people who thought Mr Hichilema was genuine. He really is fixing ordinary Zambians on this matter, and many similar matters. The Socialist Party Zambia has stood in solidarity with the people of Zambia, especially the poor and vulnerable.

Therefore, we wish to assure our people that our leader Comrade Dr Fred M’membe and the entire Socialist Party Zambia will continue to speak for them. We will continue to expose the lies and manipulation of the UPND government and their evil plans to favour mining companies and other multinationals at the expense of ordinary Zambians.

Against this background, we oppose the evil plan to convert the 20 percent shares Zambia has in First Quantum Mine (FQM) into a 3 percent loyalty tax. This plan defies common sense. The government has been saying that Zambia will be getting more money by asking for a lower percentage. This argument flies in the face of reason because the reality is different. As Socialist Party Zambia we urge all stakeholders to oppose this transaction and other such transactions, which are being devised as a clean way to steal from the Zambian people by capitalists who don’t care about our suffering masses.

Our people will not enjoy this festive season. There will be no Happy Christmas and Happy New Year because the cost of mealie meal is too high already, let alone the cost of other food stuffs, such as fish, chicken, meat and even vegetables. We will be in the dark because of the planned long hours of load shedding. Moreover, the price of fuel is likely to go up again and people will fail to get on the bus or drive their vehicles to attend family gatherings. Many of our people will continue to die of depression as a result of a careless government.

Zambians can see for themselves that Mr Hichilema lied to them and that he has no clear direction for this country. And instead of showing humility, UPND has responded with a kind of arrogance that we have never before witnessed in this country. You fail your own people and later to tell them “fimba upoke” or “mulenya mwalalapila”. This is not the way to lead!

Going into the New Year, we fear that the UPND government will become more insecure, brutal, and violent. It will restrict the democratic space to stop opposition groups from mobilising, thereby violating our rights to assemble, associate, and move freely. It will heighten abuse of the police and arrest those with dissenting views. We will see more destruction of our key state institutions by appointing partisan people, whose agenda will be to frustrate genuine criticism and demands for transparency and accountability. We will also see growing corruption within its own ranks.

We call on all Zambians to struggle with us for what is right. We have only one Zambia and one country we love. Standing on the side will not change things or make this country better. We are stronger together. Join us in the fight for a just, fair and equitable Zambia.

God bless Mother Zambia.

HON. GARRY NKOMBO SHOULD NOT STOP PEOPLE FROM QUESTIONING HH’S HOUSE UPGRADES- HH’S MONEY REMAINS NOTHING BUT A RUMOUR

12/12/2022

As National Democratic Congress, NDC, we wish to put it on record that the current upgrades and road construction leading to President HH’s house should be examined and stopped if he is using state money to do so. Our designated State house along Independence Avenue has the security features to accommodate a head of state, but we are now being told that security and even a police post being built are allegedly among the big costs that Community House is gobbling to make it a house worth that of a Republican President.

Over the past few years, we have known and seen wealthy Zambians that have gone as far as sponsor road constructions leading to their homes. There is still a Bulaya road existing now due to the works Mr. K. Bulaya did on the road. Whether the money was his or from proceeds of crime as some people will be quick to mention, the fact is that the money to do the road was taken from his personal money and he could have chosen to do anything with it, but he chose to construct a road that also benefited people that lived near him or used that road.

We have been told for years that President Hakainde Hichilema is a wealthy man. Of course we have not seen that money whether in theory or practice, it is just a rumour. To me, this is what the UPND and President HH have used for decades to practically get away with murder. President HH does not have charities or businesses which we can point at as being engaged in corporate social responsibilities or charity works that we can see that the money really exists. At the very most, we hear that President HH is a Director or shareholder in many companies and what percentage he has in those companies only devil knows.

By the same token, PRESIDENT HH has benefited more from the UPND financially, than the UPND has benefited from him. But because he has the pleasure and luck to lead a party full of praise singers that only jump and praise things that are told to them instead of applying logic, he continues to benefit more than he is giving in or out. People laughed at HH that he lost elections 5 times, but to him UPND has always been a business more than a political party. Before and during elections, many donors would give UPND loads of cash, money which is not even controlled by the Secretariat, but the President. So election in and election out, the UPND leadership got millions of money from donors. Sometimes that money would find itself in party programmes and sometimes it would find itself in other activities that the party leadership saw fit.

President HH further refused to publicly declare his assets. If you get on the Internet right now, you will find the monetary figures of what each millionaire or billionaire in Africa or worldwide is estimated to have. It should not be a secret. But we are told that HH is the richest man in the country and yet we do not know what he is worth. Therefore, for hon. Garry Nkombo to tell us that it is demeaning to question where the money to construct and upgrade the private residency of the President is coming from, is actually an insult to our collective intelligence as a people. He says that President HH is self sustaining. REALLY? Well, why did he not do all that work while he was still in opposition, since we are told that he is very rich. As NDC, we feel that President HH’s wealth is nothing but a rumour that is normally used to gain pecuniary advantage, and people are hoodwinked into believing that he has so much money and cannot be interested in using public resources, and yet the opposite is true.

This is a man they are further telling us that he is not drawing his salary and yet if that were true we would probably see him donate it to charity or his own party for party activities. Just the other time, one of the UPND officials was buried in a sack cloth in Siavonga and today the UPND members almost failed to bury their colleague in Kitwe until hon. Malanji donated a bus to help ferry mourners. All that in a party with a very wealthy President who is not getting his salary. Maybe he should turn his salary into a funeral fund that should be used to give UPND members decent burials.

Sadly, the rich man with short or penguin hands, once again lives to his true nature of not sharing whatever he has, whether much or little, but expects the public to judge him on the premises that he has too much money to ever think of getting money from the Zambians. Those are lies that the UPND and its members can feed on, for some of us, we can and will not base our analysis on things that we cannot see, but restrict ourselves to what we can see. And what we see is zero HH money for any project or charity works, but so much public funds now finding itself to even make Community House more comfortable and habitable for a head of state, and yet we are being told to look away as all this is happening.

Harry Kalaba has no moral and legal legitimacy to call for early elections – Mweetwa

December 13th, 2022

CHOMA – UPND Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has challenged opposition Citizens First president Harry Kalaba to reorganize himself and seek audience with his Malawian extravagant Prophet Shepherd Bushiri for misleading him.

Mr. Mweetwa said President Kalaba must find out why he lost the August 2021 Presidential elections when his prophet assured him that he would win instead of calling for unjustified early elections.

He says it is shocking to hear Harry Kalaba calling for early elections claiming that President Hichilema has failed to govern the country as he wondered where the opposition derives his moral legitimacy to make such an assertion.

“The man stood for elections in 2021 and failed lamentably despite being lied to by his prophet that he stood greater chances of winning the elections. His party did not produce any Member of Parliament, Mayor or Council Chairman. He doesn’t even have a councilor and today he wants to rise on top of the mountain to call for early elections. My advice to him is sela tubombeko. We have the people’s mandate and we are delivering,” he said.

Mr. Mweetwa who is also Choma Central Member of Parliament and Southern Province Minister said the opposition leader is playing politics of poverty as he is pretending not to know the amount of progress that President Hichilema and the UPND have achieved in the last 18 months.

He further revealed that the party has resolved to float President Hakainde Hichilema as its Presidential candidate in the 2026 General elections because he has proven to be a reliable and action oriented leader whose works are speaking for themselves.

“This is the president who has gone for one year four months without a salary, a President whose financial prudence remains unmatched. This is the President who has told his cabinet and ministers that no one is going to drive a brand new vehicle before attending to challenges of the people,” he said.

And Mr. Mweetwa has cautioned the UPND leadership to stop having a mentality that Southern province is a UPND stronghold, saying it was only a stronghold when the party was in opposition adding that the PF lost elections because they took for granted that they had strongholds and relented on campaigns.

The party Spokesperson who was speaking when he received defectors from the PF in Choma today called on members to have a spirit of accommodating new members by forgiving and loving those that are defecting to the ruling UPND.

A BAD WORKMAN QUARRELS WITH HIS TOOLS- Dr. Fred M’membe

A BAD WORKMAN QUARRELS WITH HIS TOOLS
By Dr. Fred M’membe, President of Socialist Party Zambia

Mr Hakainde Hichilema has blamed every failure of his government on the former rulers of our country, the civil servants he has personally appointed or promoted, opposition leaders who he says hate him and sometimes even on his own ministers – who himself personally appointed and can fire at any time.

The civil servants and ministers are his tools. But our success does not depend on what kind of tools we use but how we use them.

A person who is having the best equipment in the world, but he not aware of how to use them will not able to complete the task efficiently, instead, he will blame the tool. Whereas a person completed his work efficiently with the tools available to him can do any work make it a success, because he’s not wasting his time by looking at the fault in his tool.

Tools help to improve the quality of the work, therefore they are necessary for the work to be done, but it’s important how they are used and who uses them. A good workman is known by his efficiency in handling his tools. He knows how to put the tools to proper use and he does not blame them.

A bad workman does not know how to make the proper use of his tools, so he quarrels with them. As a result, his quality of the work will be low. Here, he is not ready to accept his own lack of skill and talent.

He killed his wife, stabbed the daughter and tried to kill himself

Tonderai Luwisi, Senior Director, PriceWaterHouse

A story by a film member

He drove off and went to the PWC basement where he tried to stab him self on the car, it didn’t work. Went to the road side trying to have himself hit by the car that also failed, the cops somehow found him and took him to UTH and informed the cops that had taken the dead body to UTH.

So story is that these guys have been in Zambia for slightly over 15yrs, their last born daughter was born here (the 12yrs old).

They have been having problems past few month and the husband was abusive physicall, the wife was advised by people to find her own place, a flat type of arrangement where she would be surrounded by other people.

That’s how she found the flat in jesmondine 3 months ago, she was supposed to say till January but she like the flat and said she would stay slightly longer.

She was staying there with her oldest son 17yrs old and the daughter 12yrs. But I’m the past few weeks she started talking to her husband and on Friday they had even gone out for dinner, she was scheduled to travel to zim today, so he suggested they drive down together with the kids, saying it would be nice for the kids to see their grandparents.

Their oldest had gone for a sleepover on Friday and the father was supposed to pick him up yesterday, but he came up with an excuse.

So the boy called the mother to pick him up, when the father got to their flat yesterday he already had plans to kill the wife, so he was disappointed to find the son, Ati the last time the had a huge fight, the son overpowered the father.

So when he saw the son, he quickly told him to go buy beers at the bakery in jesmondine, the some was like but there’s already alcohol, he insisted he goes, so the some left, and everything happened in the 30mins that the son had stepped out.

According to the daughter he picked a fight with his wife while she was cooking in the kitchen. He stabbed her so many times then went to the daughter stabbed her about 3 times and the girl pretended to be dead, when he was out of sight she used the kitchen door to leave the house and go knocking on tjr neighbors door.

When he saw that she had left the house he panicked and called the son who had driven out with the gate keys.

Told the son to come back quickly because something had come up, the son was like I’m actually at the gate, the moment he opened the gate, the father drove off and the son went to the house to find his mother on the pool of blood.

Dear family, the news of Pelagia is truly heartbreaking. She was allegedly killed by her husband yesterday evening. Her daughter Shalom is in hospital. Kindly lets remember Shalom and Tatenda her 1st born son in prayer. Her husband is also in hospital after he attempted to take his own life. This is indeed a very difficult time and we truly need to pray.

There is no funeral house right now because of the complexity of the case. Brother Paul and myself have seen Tatenda and he is with friends for now.

I kindly ask that whatever support you can give is directed to me as we wait to hear more by late evening when her parents are expected to be in the country.

Grateful for all of you🙏🏾

The Treasury also released K257.6 million for dismantling of arrears owed to suppliers of goods & services in order to help unlock liquidity and turn the wheels of the economy through SME’s.

We now take this opportunity to reiterate the call by the Minister of Finance and National Planning for Ministries, Provinces and Agencies to ensure that funds are absorbed and utilised on budgeted programmes – in a timely, efficient and effective manner in order to achieve the Government’s set transformational objectives outlined in the National Budget.

The Minister of Finance and National Planning will host a Symposium on the 2022 Budget and Economic Affairs Performance Review, on Thursday, 5th January, 2023.

HATRED TOWARDS GENEROUS PEOPLE IN ZAMBIA IRKS THE BULLDOZER

…as he donates k100,000 to St. Margaret UCZ Choir in Munali

Lusaka, Sunday, December 11, 2022 (Smart Eagles)

Whilst some people expected the Bulldozer to quit charity works following the loss of his seat in Kabushi Constituency, former Lusaka Province Minister Hon. Bowman Chilosha Lusambo has continued putting smiles on the faces of Zambians with his generous gestures.

Earlier today as he graced the launch of the album for the choir at the United Church of Zambia, St Margret Congregation in Lusaka’s Munali Constituency, Hon Lusambo gifted the choir with K100,000 meant to buy a bus.

The former Lawmaker says he will never stop giving because giving is a blessing.

“It’s only in Zambia where I have seen generous givers arrested. This shocks me a lot. We are being told that there is power in giving, there are blessings in giving. They found me giving in Kwacha and they were like this one gives generously, we should remove him (as the area MP),” he said.

“So I said I will never stop giving; better they kick me out of Parliament but I will be giving. Because there is nothing in Parliament. But there are blessings in giving. So if giving is a crime, I will be getting arrested every day.”

And the former Lusaka Province Minister called on the church to pray for former President Edgar Lungu as he is the only surviving former Head of State.

“At the moment we only have one former President. Have you ever seen us taking the elderly to those places they use to accommodate the elderly? We keep them in our homes. Every country or every institution has what they call memory,” he said.

“We keep the elderly in our homes so that we know where the country is coming from, where we are and where we are going. So we should be praying for former President Edgar Lungu. All the former presidents are gone; he is the only one we are remaining with.”

Hon Lusambo also called on the church to pray for current leaders.

He says when those that have Christ in them lead people are happy but when those that don’t have lead people cry.

“This country is for everyone. It isn’t for President Hakainde, it isn’t for politicians, it’s for everyone. Politicians are just few. This country is in your hands. You’re the ones who give politicians power,” he said.

“Today if you think that what you see in Peter isn’t pleasant, you’re the ones to decide no this is not why we gave you power. So let us pray for leaders. If they are leading us well, let’s pray for them, if they are not, let us pray for them so that they change and start leading us in a good manner.”

Meanwhile, Hon Lusambo has implored Zambians to spread love during this festive season.

He has said Christians should live in a manner that reflects Jesus Christ’s image.

“Festive season is the time for showing love. Jesus Christ was born to unify the world. Things are not going well in the country, people in church are supposed to stand in prayer so that things go well in the country,” he said.

“This is why you hear that homosexuality has come… people in church should pray so that he rescues us from this evil because Zambia is a Christian nation. We need to live a Christ like life. When you have food and your neighbor doesn’t have and you’re locking yourself up with your family then where is your Christianity?”

HH PLOTTING UPND DOWNFALL…taking us back to a Zambia we don’t want – Sishuwa

HH PLOTTING UPND DOWNFALL

…taking us back to a Zambia we don’t want – Sishuwa

By Ernest Chanda

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is taking us back to a Zambia we do not want and digging his political grave, charges University of Zambia lecturer Sishuwa Sishuwa.

He argues that “by promoting tribalism in public appointments, ignoring and possibly participating in corruption, mismanaging a poor economy, arresting critics, undermining democratic institutions, and delaying institutional reform, President Hakainde Hichilema is taking us back to a Zambia we do not want and digging his political grave”.

Commenting on good governance activist Brebner Changala’s observations that President Hichilema was copying former president Edgar Lungu’s tribal agenda, Dr Sishuwa said he cannot understand why the Head of State is doing the same things Zambians opposed under the PF.

“Changala says Hichilema is copying Lungu’s tribalism. Hichilema is not copying; he is practicing his own tribalism with Lozis, Tongas and those from North Western Province being the biggest beneficiaries. Have you observed that many of the people who do not see tribalism in the appointments that Hichilema is making to key public offices (security, constitutional, boards, etc) are mostly those of us who hail from Western, Southern, and North Western provinces? Have you wondered why? We did not oppose Lungu’s tribalism so that Hichilema could initiate his own. We want an inclusive Zambia, where no one region dominates appointments to public office,” he said.

“One key criticism of Lungu’s rule was that he marginalised Zambians from Southern, Western and North Western provinces, regions that have historically voted for Hichilema. Most of Lungu’s ministers, for instance, were either from the Chewa-speaking Eastern province or from one of three Bemba-speaking provinces. This preference was also seen clearly in the top leadership positions of the police, army, air force, national service, and office of the president. Hichilema promised to do things differently if elected but has barely delivered.”

Dr Sishuwa said while President Hichilema’s Cabinet “is relatively representative of Zambia’s 10 provinces”, areas that historically voted for PF are grossly underrepresented while most ministers are from ethnic groups that have typically formed the core of the President’s base.

“The key ministries (home affairs, defence, finance, justice, education, local government and many more), the leadership positions of all the five security services, the leadership of the justice system, and most permanent secretaries in the civil service are all held by people from the region that has traditionally voted for Hichilema,” he noted.

“Added to this are most of the appointments to the diplomatic service, boards, State House, and more recently the Electoral Commission of Zambia. There has been a near complete reversal whereby yesterday’s victors have become today’s victims and vice versa. Among other things, this adds to the risk of a vicious cycle whereby each new leader continues this trend and makes it more likely that the next election will be driven by ethnic rather than policy considerations.”

Dr Sishuwa said another disappointing feature of Hichilema’s presidency has been in the area of institutional democratic reform.

“I am aware that Hichilema is soon to travel to the US for the democracy summit where Joe Biden is set to recognise him as one of the good leaders in Africa committed to promoting democracy and human rights. This premature recognition has little to do with Hichilema’s record on these issues, which is poor. It has more to do with Biden’s desperate attempt to counter what the US sees as the growing illiberal influences of China and Russia in Africa. After a year in office, Hichilema’s administration is yet to repeal laws that undermine human rights or enact legislation that strengthens accountable democratic governance. Yes, democracy and human rights were seriously eroded under Lungu, but the repressive legislation that enabled his authoritarian tendencies remains on the statutes. Indeed, Hichilema is now shamelessly presiding over the use of laws such as defamation of the president, which effectively criminalises criticism of the President, and the cyber security Act to arrest his critics and political opponents,” he noted.

“Even the notorious public order Act also remains intact. Hichilema’s pledge to pass a law on access to information has seen a similar lack of progress. Like many governments before it, the current one has also now dragged its feet on passing an Act – or even producing a draft bill – that would make government more transparent and corruption easier to observe. This procrastination is symptomatic of the new dawn administration’s lack of willingness to make structural changes that would strengthen accountable governance. As a result, Zambian institutions remain as susceptible to manipulation now as they were under Lungu. While in opposition, Hichilema promised wide democratic reforms. Now in office, his administration has recognised the advantage of leaving laws that restrict the opposition in place.”

And Dr Sishuwa says the biggest opposition that the UPND faces is an alert and politically engaged citizenry and not an organised political party.

“All considered, the President of Zambia is working hard to be voted out of office by promoting tribalism in public appointments, ignoring and possibly participating in corruption, mismanaging a poor economy, arresting critics, undermining democratic institutions and delaying institutional reform. I think many Zambians are now beginning to wake up to the ugly reality that Hichilema may not be what we thought he was. In a sense, Hichilema is Edgar Lungu with a better international PR (public relations). As did Lungu, the current President is taking us back to a Zambia we do not want and appears determined to unite Zambians against his leadership and plot the UPND’s downfall,” argued Dr Sishuwa.

“I get a sense that having been elected with a popular mandate, Hichilema thinks there is no credible opposition to unseat him. In my view, the biggest opposition that he faces is an alert and politically engaged citizenry, not an organised party. The latter will rise organically and should be the least of his concerns. What Hichilema must fear most is already in place: the voter. Discontent will not wait until there is an effective opposition party to harvest it. The voter in Zambia, unlike elsewhere, has taken over the traditional role of the opposition.”

Billionaire and Philanthropist James Ndambo has shutdown his charity organisation called My Home Town in his home country – Zambia, reports Asa Manda.

Ndambo a renowned International Business Mogue based in South Africa with companies spread accross Africa, Europe, Middile East and South America has decided to close down My Home Town, a charity whose umbrella he has been doing some charity work for 25 years.

“With a heavy heart 25 years after the idea was founded in Choma -Zambia, I inform you all that MHT has suspended all of its operations in Zambia with immediate effect except for those projects that are already work in progress,” MHT dissolved Board Chairperson Clever Ndambo announced to members in a message seen by Zambian Eye.

“Most of us are aware of the environment that My Home Town (MHT) found itself in after the June/July 2022 beauty pageant events in Choma -Zambia. Sadly, what happened after the Choma events has made the operations of MHT very difficult; Socially, Morally, Emotionally and Financially.”

“Most of us are aware of the environment that My Home Town (MHT) found itself in after the June/July 2022 beauty pageant events in Choma -Zambia. Sadly, what happened after the Choma events has made the operations of MHT very difficult; Socially, Morally, Emotionally and Financially,” Ndambo told members adding that the Board he led had since been dissolved.

He explained that this means that, henceforth the organisation’s Managing Director Gilbert Siachaya and support team will oversee the winding up of operations and all running projects which will include refunding of all paid up members their membership fees and the honoring of all outstanding liabilities MHT might have. He however said MHT has an obligation to the winners of the Miss My Home Town Beauty Pageant contest till their term ends on July the 2nd, 2023. He said this shall be respected both in Zambia and internationally.

“Regarding MHT sponsored Students pursuing studies at various Universities [Kenya, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, China, Zambia, DRC, Australia, England, United States of America, Canada , St. Vincent, and South Africa], the scholarships will continue till graduation, only new intakes will be suspended. The same goes for Patients who are receiving medical care in and out of Zambia in India and South Africa, these will also continue but new requests will not be onboarded. Beneficiaries of existing Elementary and High School education Scholarships within Zambia will also continue except for new applicants,” Ndambo said.

Ndambo said he was aware that the decision will be disappointing to members and sympathisers who had seen light in their lives by being part of MHT.

“I am aware that many will be disappointed as MHT gave all of us hope for the future and above all, the feeling and strong belief in oneness as MHT members and among our sympathizers. Let us continue praying for the rebirth of this great idea in which ever form it may take; Every Individual carries a Gift/Potential, starting from our own family homes, our next-door neighbors, our communities, our towns, our provinces, and our country at large, help identify and unlock such POTENTIAL for the benefit of our shared existence,” he told members.

James Ndambo who is the Chairman of Africa Union Holdings Group financed MHT which run a number of developmental projects in Zambia especially in his home town of Choma 290 kilometres South of the capital Lusaka.

Among other projects MHT has refurblished the Choma Central Police Station, bought the Police Vehicles, Tarred and put state of art lights to the Road from Shampande township to Choma Secondary School, The Organisation provided Houses to floods Victims in Mbabala constituency, north of Choma town.

In June/July James Ndambo visited Zambia for about 10 days to launch to handover a number of projects and graced the Miss MHT Beauty Pageant, the biggest and most expensive event which attracted about 3000 Guests across the world.

Three days after the event Government through Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) raided the Africa Union Holdings premises in Lusaka grabbed Vehicles which MHT had bought to transport its VIP Guests and the three which were won by the Models. DEC said they were investigating but weeks later returned the vehicles.

Insiders also say a number of things happened which included transferring of some Officers in the Police including the Provincial Commander.-Zambian Eye

People Are Starting To See Through HH’s No Action Talk, It ‘ll Be Difficult In 2026 – Maiko Zulu

PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO SEE THROUGH HH’s NO ACTION TALK, IT ‘LL BE DIFFICULT IN 2026 – MAIKO ZULU

By Correspondent

SOCIAL Justice and Human Rights Defender Maiko Zulu says he does not foresee a situation where President Hakainde Hichilema will win with a landslide in the 2026 General Elections.

Zulu says the economic hardships prevailing in the country have angered Zambians to the extent of regretting voting for the UPND and President Hichilema.

He says small scale farmers across the country largely voted for President Hichilema because they thought he could improve agriculture in the country.

However, with the current happenings in the agriculture sector, political pundits and Governance Activists say unless the status quo change, they do not see farmers casting votes in favour of the UPND Administration and President Hichilema in the 2026 General Elections.

Speaking in an interview, Zulu said slowly, people are beginning to see through President Hichilema’s talks without action nature.

“Our politics are very simplistic. Our political cautiousness as a country is very low. That is why politicians are able to lie to you during campaigns and for four years they will do nothing… In the last year before elections, they will start doing things that will make you think that they have been working. So, that is what I see things happening (in 2026). But obviously, if people begin to think based on issues at hand. I don’t think the votes of Hakainde Hichilema will be as many in the 2026 elections as they were in the last elections,” he said, adding: “Obviously people are beginning to see through his (President Hichilema’s) political rhetorics, through his unfulfilled campaign promises and the talk without action nature.”

When reminded that President Hichilema has been voted the best African Politician by United Kingdom based African Media Agency (AMA), Zulu said there is nothing to dance about that because ordinary Zambian are grappling with hunger and are the ones that voted and not AMA.

“It depends also by who (has voted for him). You can say he is a best African President but ask an ordinary person in Zambia if they have food under the best African President. Ask the majority of the youth on the streets if they have jobs under the best African President,” he charged.

Zulu added: We saw the Kwacha being the best currency but what did it translate to? More poverty for the people, cost of meali-meal are already going up…our meali-meal in 10 Miles (Mungule area in Chibombo District) has gone up by K5 in the last week. So, it is easy to say that someone is the best here and there but results must be seen on the ordinary person’s table. You and me, if we are employed, we must see an improvement in our salaries. So, for me I don’t see that as something we must be dancing about,” he said.

MY HOMETOWN GONE,WHERE WILL CHOMA LEAN ON ?

…..Who will wipe the tears of the orphans and the vulnerable in our land ?🤔

Mastone Moonze.

My hometown Zambia has decided to stop operating in Zambia after some business allies of Mr James Ndambo felt uncomfortable to the recent investigations of suspected money laundering by the Zambian government through it’s investigative wings were conducted.

The Non government organization was founded in Zambia twenty five years ago before other countries in the world established their own but chaired by Mr Ndambo.

It’s main aim was to improve the lives of people through nertworking and creating connections globally but be able to develop villages of origin .It is a membership based organization that has been helping many Zambians in so many ways.

My Home town Zambia has been supporting many people with complicated ailments by buying air tickets for them to be evacuated to countries where they have better facilities for treatment.

Before the Zambian government commenced it’s investigations this year ,My Home town Zambia embarked on township roads upgrading in Choma district,a gesture that excited the local authorities.

The first ever world class street lights were installed in Choma’s Shampande Compound together with a beautiful road from Shampande to Mr Ndambo’s farm near Choma secondary school which was constructed at cost of 24 million Kwacha.

Mr Ndambo’s organization recently refurbished Choma Police station, donated three Hilux vehicles and one quantum bus for the security wing of the land .

He personally offered to pay for the training of police officers that are interested to further their study in digital money laundering investigations.

It was this generosity that prompted Southern Province minister Mr Cornelius Mweetwa to request for the rehabilitation of the road leading to Choma General Hospital, and Mr Ndambo could not hesitate but gave in to the minister’s request.

The organization further pledged to put up a maternity ward at the Choma Police station and work on three more roads within Shampande Compound.

The organization also empowered villagers in Choma rural with hummer mills ,cattle, solar power and houses.

When Choma experienced floods that destroyed people’s houses in Mbabala township ,it’s Mr Ndambo and his organisation that donated prefabricated homes at a cost of two million.

Certainly, the shutting down of My home town Zambia will surely affect many citizens ,not only in Choma but the entire Africa, because we still have people that are in international schools due to Mr Ndambo’s support.

Now that the organization is shut down in Zambia, where will the poor people of Choma lean on ? Who will wipe their tears Incase another disaster of floods visits them during the rain season😢

FRENCH DEVELOPMENT AGENCY READY TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT ZAMBIA

PRESS RELEASE

For immediate Release
Paris-Sunday December 11,2022

France’s largest development financial institution, has proposed the creation of a special purpose vehicle to allow for financial support to Zambia on a private legal basis.

The French Development Agency (AFD) said it is, however, ready to finance the private sector in Zambia through PROPACO, a private sector development arm of the group.

This came to light when Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu held a meeting with a team from AFD in Paris.

Zambia’s Ambassador to France Dr Christine Kaseba Sata had requested AFD to consider financial support to Zambia through PROPACO.

AFD is however optimistic that the debt situation will soon be resolved as there is will and commitment by the creditors to restructure Zambia’s debt so that financial support through the public sector can resume.

AFD Deputy Director Africa Development Beatrice Lederle is confident that the debt negotiations under the Paris club forum will be resolved so that the Agency can develop an ambitious economic plan for Zambia.

Ms Lederle said AFD is totally aligned with the vision of president Hakainde Hichilema and saluted the achievements scored by the government so far.

“We want to congratulate you for the IMF programme which was recently approved by the board and sincerely wish the negotiations under the Paris club forum will go forward at a quick pace to develop an ambitious economic and environmental program ”, said Ms Lederle

And Mr Nzovu thanked France for the support and commitment towards economic transformation in Zambia to ensure debt sustainability.

He said once the debt is restructured, there will be more foreign direct investment which will contribute to the growth of the economy.

Meanwhile Naig Cozannet from the forestry section said PROPACO will support the forestry sector in Zambia and a feasibility study has started in collaboration with Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation to have a full inventory of the plantation undertaken.

AFD Group has been present in Zambia since 2012 and has been active in supporting Zambia’s road infrastructure development, expansion of access to electricity and water as well as renewable energy development.

Fashion Sakala’s Former Girlfriend Drags Him To Court Over N*des

0

Ex-lover sues Fashion Sakala over nudes

FASHION Sakala’s ex-lover has sued the Glasgow Rangers and Chipolopolo striker over nudes.

According to Linnety Kaoma, the 2017 Under 20 winning striker sent nude pictures he got of her at the climax of their relationship to her young sister.

Kaoma has applied for leave before the Lusaka High Court to commence proceedings against Sakala who is out of jurisdiction and serve him the summons.

She wants the Court to issue a restraining order against Sakala or his agents preventing him from invading her right to privacy, solitude and seclusion, by way of publishing or circulating any material reasonably deemed obsence, offensive and bearing the likeness of the plaintiff.

According to her skeleton arguments in support of ex-parte summons for an order for leave to serve writ out of jurisdiction Kaoma explained that she was involved in an intimate relationship with Sakala for four years.

She said in May 2022 their relationship came to a dramatic and acrimonious end when Sakala started having an affair with one of her younger sisters.

Kaoma accused Sakala of tormenting her towards the end of their relationship by perpetually threating her, that he was armed with a lot of damaging content against her and that he would ” spill the beans” at any time.

She claimed Sakala via email confirmed , and confessed that he had hacked into her phone through his agents to which she was panick stricken and weary of her safety.

“During the course of the relationship with the defendant and the plaintiff would often engage via WhatsApp video calling , and would very oftenly do so whilst taking showers, or whilst engaging in some virtual intimacy of some sort,” Kaoma explained.

“On one occasion, whilst the parties were engaging in their usual virtual intimacy, via the video call, the defendant did, without the knowledge or consent of the plaintiff take a screenshot of the video call, capturing the likeness of the plaintiff in an image that would be considered not only obscene, but also offensive to a reasonable third party viewing the Photo.”

She said after Sakala captured the photo, in contumelious disregard of her right to privacy, solitude and seclusion, he published it by sending it to her younger sister who is under her care and later deleted it few minutes upon realizing his mistake.

Kaoma said she has a good cause of action or right to relief against Sakala who is a Zambian but is temporarily playing professional football in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

She stated that the case she has against her ex-lover is as a result of the latter’s breach of her privacy, solitude and seclusion.

George Mpombo Has Appealed To President HH To Help Him Retrieve Over Us $1.5 Million From Amazon

HELP ME RETRIEVE $1.5M FROM AMAZON

…my appeal to HH is due to back-and-forth
energy sapping 3-month saga – Mpombo

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone

GEORGE Mpombo has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to help him retrieve over US $1.5 million from Amazon for his “An Audacious Journey” book sales.

The former Kafulafuta MMD member of parliament, who also served as energy and defence minister as well as deputy high commissioner to Nigeria, said ‘An Audacious Journey’ was published by Amazon and efforts to get his funds from book sales have been futile.

“My appeal is to President HH as a father of the nation to help me get Amazon, to retrieve the funds from PayPal and send to my bank. My account details are already in Amazon possession,” he said. “My appeal to the President is due to a back-and-forth energy sapping three-month saga. The President’s intervention will send a strong message that Zambians are protected against predatory machinations.”

Mpombo said his book has glossed over $1,500,000 in online book sales on Amazon books for the past five years.

“Amazon books recommended that we open an online account with PayPal which I did almost two months ago and Amazon confirmed releasing the funds to PayPal but up to now PayPal has become a ‘relvoving door’ of crafty shenanigans and funds have not been released despite several false promises,” he said.

Mpombo added that on four occasions PayPal has sent security codes which when presented to Atlasmara Bank are not backed by any money transfer.

He said on several occasions PayPal has been using an excuse of poor internet network.

“Only recently I was assured money would hit my account within 48 hours but when I checked after 72 hours PayPal changed the story that my Visa card had a problem with certain digits, the bank issued a fresh card which PayPal confirmed and asked me to wait but nothing materialised,” Mpombo narrated. “Then last week PayPal shamelessly claimed that Zambia was among the countries they cannot do business with because they have no presence here. They could not answer whether the funds would now be sent back to Amazon or have been impounded and forfeited to PayPal.”

He also appealed to Amazon owner Jeff Bezos to help him retrieve the funds.

“Lastly, I also appeal to Jeff Bezos, a great friend of Africa and owner of Amazon to prevail upon his company and release the funds to my account immiediately. The egregious behaviour by PayPal has resulted in having the launch of my next book, ‘My journey to notorious Chimbokaila State Prison’ adjourned indefinitely,” said Mpombo.

“A notice to Mpombo by Amazon’s Garnish Daman indicated that: ‘We have successfully deposited your funds Dr George Mpombo (Wello) kindly be patient enough for the transaction to show within two (three) days’.”

‘An Audacious Journey’ profiles Mpombo’s family background and his up and down political journey from UNIP to MMD.

BENEFICIARIES OF SOCIAL CASH TRANSFER SCHEME COMMEND GOVERNMENT FOR TIMELY DISBURSEMENTS

President Hakainde Hichilema recently announced that the New Dawn Government had released money for Social Cash Transfer Scheme and Food Security Pack Programme to ensure the government safeguards people’s livelihoods as a nation’s humanity is judged by how it takes care of its vulnerable citizens.

Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami led “Community of Practice for Cash Transfers in Africa” conference delegates on a field visit to beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) Programme in Kazungula District.

The purpose of the visit was to help delegates who comprised social welfare workers from different African countries, to familiarise themselves with Zambia’s implementation of the Social Cash Transfer Programmes, and how it is transforming lives in the province, and the country in general.

Ms. Kawandami who led the Kazungula team appreciated how beneficiaries have changed their lives by venturing in various income generating activities.

About 6,350 beneficiaries in Kazungula district are currently on the programme with government targeting to increase that number owing to the positive impact the programme has had since 2003.

85-year beneficiary with disability, Ms. Musekwe Munkombwe who lives alone, told the delegates that she has managed to renovate her house and was able sustain her livelihood through the funds she receives from the SCT programme through the help of her granddaughter.

Ms. Munkombwe testified and expressed gratitude on the effectiveness of the programme, with a call to government to continue on the positive trajectory of the life -changing programme.

“Since I am old and barely walk, my granddaughter collects the money on my behalf and I do not face any challenges all at all,” She said.

Another beneficiary Fenny Siamazomba, who is a widow and mother of four, shared with the delegates how she has managed to start up a small business from the SCT funds to take care of her children.

“I was enrolled on the SCT programme in 2017, the funds I receive from the programme have enabled me to build a house and invest in a grocery business. My children have a roof over their head and food to eat,” Ms. Siamazombe said.

ABOUT REWARDING INCOMPETENCE: A CASE OF BEATEN POLICE OFFICERS- Sean Tembo

ABOUT REWARDING INCOMPETENCE: A CASE OF BEATEN POLICE OFFICERS

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. When news that eight police officers had been badly beaten by some villagers in Katete, first broke a few weeks ago, my first reaction was; what kind of Police officers are these who allow themselves to be captured and beaten? To me, that was incompetence and lack of judgement of the highest order. In other jobs, you can get away with being incompetent and lacking judgement, but in the Police, you can easily end up dead. That is why the people of Katete should be thanked for having the presence of mind to spare the lives of the eight Police officers. When a mob is angry, it is very rare that they would exercise restraint and just give you an adequate beating but not too much to kill you.

2. My expectation was that after that Katete incident, the Police Command would institute a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances in which eight seasoned and fully trained officers allowed themselves to be captured. Why didn’t they gather adequate intelligence from the ground before mounting their operation? Why didn’t they retreat when they saw that they were outnumbered by the villagers? Why didn’t they carry crowd-control equipment such as helmets, teargas cannisters, tear smoke, rubber bullets etcetera? After doing that thorough investigation, the Police Command should have admonished and possibly instituted disciplinary action against all the eight officers for possible dereliction of duty. The lessons drawn from Kawaza village should have been used as a case study in Police training colleges at Lilayi, Kamfinsa and Sondela.

3. But alas, instead of using professionalism in dealing with their officers involved in the Katete incident, the Police Command decided to use emotions. Barely days after the incident, the Inspector General of Police announced that all the eight beaten police officers will be promoted. Promoted for what exactly? Promoted for being beaten? In fact, by allowing themselves to be overpowered and beaten, the Police exposed the public to a greater risk because the rioters had access to Police firearms and if it was in other parts of the country, those firearms could have been stolen and used to commit other crimes. In other words, the incompetence and lack of judgement of the eight police officers actually endangered the wider general public. We are only lucky that the good people of Katete are not militant and we’re not interested in the firearms. They were only interested in administering a sizeable dose of discipline.

4. Let us fast-forward to the unfortunate incident of a few days ago in Mpongwe were two armed officers were beaten mercilessly by a drunk truck driver, and sadly one of the Police Officers has since passed away. When l look at a video of the incident which has been circulating on social media, it makes my body shiver as officers and the suspect appear to be wrestling for an AK-47. Although the video is short and unclear, the fact that the two officers were overpowered and severely beaten means that the perpetrator finally had access to the police firearm. This greatly endangered the general public.

5. The Katete and Mpongwe incidents, although unrelated are very similar in nature, in the sense that in both cases, Police Officers allowed themselves to be at the mercy of the perpetrator (s). They also allowed the assailant (s) to have access to Police firearms. The most unfortunate part is that the Police Command do not see anything wrong with officers who exercise poor judgement in the line of duty. Instead, the Police Command sees it fit to reward such officers with promotions. This means that the Police Command has very low standards of performance for it’s officers. If l was President of Zambia, l would have instructed the Inspector General of Police to send the eight Katete officers back to Police College for re-training. But since we are under a Government that rewards incompetence, am sure that we shall more Police Officers getting apprehended by suspects, instead of the other way round.

HUNGER LOOMING NEXT YEAR- MANGANI

HUNGER LOOMING NEXT YEAR – MANGANI
…if UPND does not distribute fertiliser to all parts of the country

By Correspondent
FORMER Home Affairs Minister Lameck Mangani has warned that hunger will strike next year if the UPND administration does not distribute fertilisers to all parts of the country in the next three weeks.

Mangani has therefore warned Zambians to brace themselves for serious hunger.

Speaking in an interview, Mangani says failure by the Government to distribute fertiliser in the next coming weeks, will plunge the country into hunger situations.

“Unfortunately, if this is not well handled in the next two to three weeks, we should brace ourselves for hunger next year because there will be shortage of food,” the former Home Affairs Minister predicted.

Mangani said it is sad that when the UPND formed Government, they changed the procurement process hence, the delay in the delivery of fertiliser.

According to Mangani, it is illogical for the party that forms government to change everything including good things that were put in place by previous Governments.

” The UPND pronouncements on farming were good and inspiring to farmers. The only challenge I see is that when there is a change of Government. You don’t change everything. You have to have continuity. To try to change everything, you will have gaps like the one we are witnessing now. The all procurement process was disturbed and in the process, the fertiliser distribution has delayed in most parts of Eastern Province,” he said.

He said there is a very big outcry in Eastern Province like many other parts of Zambia because of delays by the UPND Government to deliver fertiliser on time.

Mangani said while some farmers have began receiving fertiliser, the quantity is not enough as they have to share the commodity.

He said it would have been imperative if Government forewarned the farmers that they were going to be sharing fertiliser.

” They could have forewarned farmers that we are cutting the packs of fertiliser, please prepare yourselves. Unlike now where at the eleventh hour, they have to look for money, they have to look for food which is in short supply. There is a lot of panic on the part of farmers,” he charged.

Two Girls And Their Boyfriends Arrested In Chingola For Masterminding Theft Of Two Vehicles Belonging To Girls Uncle

TWO GIRLS AND THEIR BOYFRIENDS ARRESTED IN CHINGOLA FOR MASTERMINDING THEFT OF TWO VEHICLES BELONGING TO GIRLS UNCLE

TWO girls and their boyfriend’s have been arrested in Chingola on the Copperbelt after they joined forces and stole two vehicles belonging to the girl’s uncle.

They are also alleged before the act, to have stolen a pistol from their grandfather, which they used to stage the robbery.

Copperbelt commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba police have arrested the two sisters and one of their boyfriend’s, while one is on the run.

He said the case is alleged to have occurred this year between July and November in which a Toyota Noah and a Ford Escape were stolen from the girl’s uncle, Job Ngandwe junior.

“A 19-year-old juvenile of Chingola was apprehended after he was found in possession of a Crvena Zastava pistol serial number 252022, Calibre 7.65mm model 70. Upon being interviewed, the suspect said that he got the firearm from his girlfriend, also a juvenile aged 18. When interviewed, the girlfriend told officers that she stole the pistol from her sick grandfather Job Ngandwe senior, the father of Job Ngandwe junior, who is the victim of the two aggravated robberies,” he said.

He said the juvenile told officers that she gave the pistol to her boyfriend who while working together with Elias Chileshe of Kabundi East within Chingola later attacked her uncle and robbed him of the Toyota Noah and later a Ford Escape from their house which was recovered abandoned in Soweto Township.

Mr Mweemba said the robbery of the Ford escape was organised by the 19-year-old boy, his girlfriend, her older sister aged 20 and her boyfriend who is also friends with her younger sister’s boyfriend.

“Facts that led to the apprehension of the three was that on December 7, 2022, while the anti-robbery officers were on night patrol, at about 00:30 hours they received information from the grandfather to one of the suspects who informed the Police that his grandson was telling his friends that he had a lot of money and that he wanted to organise people to go and attack him and rob him,” he said.

He said that when the information reached the accused’s grandfather, he suspected the grandson to be in possession of a firearm because he was tipped that the grandson had a firearm and that was how the Police were informed and later picked the suspect who admitted to having committed the robberies.

“The two sisters and one suspect have been apprehended and detained in police custody while the other suspect who knows where the Toyota Noah is kept is still at large,” he said.

Lusaka Man Sentenced To Three Years For Killing Wife

LUSAKA MAN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR KILLING WIFE

By LUCY PHIRI

A 35-YEAR-OLD man of Chipata Compound has been sentenced to three years simple imprisonment for killing his wife and later dumping her body in the bush.

Jonas Mwaba was charged with the offence of murder which was later reduced to manslaughter.
It is alleged that on June 26, 2021, Mwaba caused the death of Given Bwalya his wife.

When the case came up before Lusaka High Court Judge Koreen Mwenda-Zimba, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge.

Facts are that on June 6, 2021 around 13:00 hours, the accused and his wife decided to leave their home for leisure and headed different ways in Zingalume.

Around 20:00 hours when Mwaba returned home, he found his wife standing with a man at the gate.
When they entered the house, the couple started fighting. Bwalya picked a brick in an attempt to hit the husband.

In the process, the accused used the same brick to hit the wife in the chest. The fighting continued for three hours with the two using a cooking stick and fists.

The couple later retired to bed but Bwalya was discovered dead around 03:00 hours in the matrimonial house.

Mwaba picked the body and dumped in Barlastone before fleeing his house.

“On June 28, 2021, the body was found by passers-by who reported to the police. On January 20, 2022, Police arrested Mwaba who was found in Ndola’s Masala Township.

A post-mortem on Bwalya’s body found that she died after suffering a trauma from a blunt force injury. Mwaba was later charged with murder which was reduced to manslaughter. Judge Mwenda-Zimba found Mwaba guilty of manslaughter.

In mitigation through defence lawyer Maribesa Mauyaneyi, asked the court to exercise leniency because the convict was a first offender who readily pleaded guilty and never wasted the court’s time.

Mauyaneyi said her client regrets his actions and asked for leniency considering that he is a father of two children aged five and seven.

“Your honour, we ask for the court to exercise some leniency on my client. He is a first offender who has not wasted the court’s time as he has admitted to the offence. He is a family man with two children aged five and seven. Your honour, my client is also looking after his aged mother,” she submitted.

In her judgement, Judge Zimba said she would consider the mitigation and the fact that the convict is a first offender who admitted the charge.

But she noted that the offence is serious and attracts up to life imprisonment and that his conduct was exacerbated by the fact that he dumped the body.

“I have considered the mitigation and the fact that the convict is a first offender who has admitted the charge. But the offence is serious in nature and attracts up to a life imprisonment and his conduct was exacerbated by the fact that he dumped the body. I therefore sentence you to three years’ simple imprisonment from the day of your arrest,” she said.

Be ready to resign – GBM challenges HH
…remember what you promised about hunger in the country and your fitness to govern?
10.12.2022

Aspiring candidate for the position of president of the Patriotic Front, PF, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, GBM, has challenged President Hakainde Hichilema to resign in the face of acute hunger currently underway in several parts of the country owing to what he calls poor leadership.

Mr. Mwamba has reminded President Hichilema of his own words once posted on his Twitter page in which he said, “If a person were to die of hunger under my Presidency, I would seriously evaluate whether I am fit to continue leading the nation. This is deeply troubling, and I can’t contain my displeasure”.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, IPC, “Over 1.35 million Zambians (10% of the analyzed population) are experiencing severe food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 Crisis) between July and September 2022, due to high food prices and climatic shocks. This population requires urgent humanitarian action to reduce food gaps, protect and restore livelihoods, and prevent acute malnutrition”.

The former Kasama Constituency lawmaker says Mr. Hichilema was especially voted for by the very population that now faces acute hunger and whose lives hang in the balance. Mr. Mwamba says this population believed Mr. Hichilema had the capacity to protect them from hunger and the death that might result from there.

The former Defense Minister says it is now clear that President Hichilema does not have the leadership he claimed to have to protect the vulnerable parts of the Zambian population. Instead, Mr. Bwalya says the President duped the Zambian voter by promising them what they wanted to hear.

“I have no doubt in my mind that Mr. Hichilema was only attracted to public office for the title ‘president’ and not really to serve”, Mr. Mwamba says. He adds, “Since he is evidently trapped in an office whose challenges he did not bargain for, he simply needs to resign when he still has a bit of dignity to walk away with”.

Commentators fear that the food security situation in the country will get worse especially in view of the chaotic distribution of farming inputs that has characterized the 2022/2023 farming season.

Claiming to clean up the system, President Hichilema has fumbled his way around an obscure agricultural policy which has left analysts wondering whether the President really knows what he is doing.

Uku ukunina umuti kumabula – Hon. Chitotela tells Government

Uku ukunina umuti kumabula – Hon. Chitotela tells Government
….Human Rights cannot be determined by you and me alone NO it requires every Zambian to vote….
Parliament News, 10th December, 2022
Pambashe Member of Parliament Hon. Ronald Kaoma Chitotela has urged the New Dawn Government to deal with the Criminal procedure amendment Bill brought to the House carefully by allowing the Zambian Citizens to have a say in the amendments of the supreme laws of our land.

Speaking when he debated the Criminal procedure code (amendment) bill that was being read for the second time, Hon. Chitotela begun by quoting for members on the right of the speaker part 3 12 (1) of the constitution which deals with the protection of Human Rights to be specific number 12.

“Madam Speaker In 2016 General election we the people of Zambia decided to go to vote and Zambians called for the amendment of the constitution and because part number three calls for the general participation of the Zambian people we called for a Referendum and this was to allow the Zambians have a direct say on what they wished to be contained in the constitution and part 3 12
“A person shall not be deprived of his life intentionally except in executional sentence of a court in respect of criminal offense under the law enforce in Zambia of which he/she has been convicted of”
In view of the above mentioned, The Former cabinet Minister said the offenses that subject somebody to be executed are prescribed in the proposed bill that the Minister of Justice is bring to the House seeking amendment.

“But where I have a problem with this is that we want to deal with a child and then we leave the father. When H.E addressed the Zambian people and promised to deal with the matter of not executing Zambians as form of punishment and Minister of justice on several occasions he stood and said we need to contentious matters in the constitution so that once we amend these clauses it will be easier for us to deal with the subsidiary legislation. I have a problem with supporting this by amending the parliamentary legislations without dealt with the constitution”

He stated that such moves with bring more confusion as “we may have Zambians who tomorrow can go to the constitutional court and require the interpretation of this constitutional provision because our constitution has provided for death penalty although the cases are not listed in the constitution but in the sub legislation? Now we want to deal with the sub legislation and leave the subject matter in the constitution? In bemba we say “ukunina umuti kumabula” meaning you are doing things upside down.

The Pambashe lawmaker said he expected the Minister or Government to call all stakeholders to share their views.
“Minister you can’t bring an act of parliament to amend and then leave out the principle law in the constitution”
“Let’s deal with the subject matter and have the day of the people, this a route we tried as Patriotic Front then Government because we wanted to do things correctly we went with the constitution and we understood that this provision requires a referendum we went to the Zambian people but unfortunately it did not pass”

He advised the Minister to consider withdrawing this provision and deal with constitution it will be easier for the house to amend the sub legislation.

“YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT HUMAN RIGHTS CAN NOT BE DETERMINED BY THIS HOUSE THIS REQUIRES A SAY FROM EVERY ZAMBIAN VOTE , THATS WHY IT MUST BE AMENDED BY A REFERENDUM ACCORDING TO PART 3 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THIS COUNTRY! it’s requires my mother in Pambashe to vote weather she agrees with the thinking of Government or not”
In his Conclusion, Hon. Chitotela said the defamation of the President proposal is a good proposal but the office of the President ought to be protected and respected.

“African governance transcends from the Chiefdom and we know how kings and chiefs are treated in our chiefdoms were we are coming from, this is not to take away the peoples liberties, Opinions to criticize their leaders but we must also bare in mind that certain positions come with certain responsibilities”.

American football Journalist Grant Wahl dies while covering Qatar World Cup as brother says ‘he was killed’

0

American football Journalist Grant Wahl has died at 48 in Qatar while covering the World Cup, says his brother.

Grant had covered Argentina’s quarterfinal win over the Netherlands on Friday and collapsed at Lusail Iconic Stadium.

The sports Journalist was rushed to a nearby hospital but passed away.

It’s currently unclear whether he died at the hospital or in transport.

Grant’s brother Eric made the announcement in an Instagram video where he claimed his brother was “healthy” before he collapsed during the game.

Eric also believes Grant was killed after he was recently detained for 35 minutes for wearing a rainbow flag shirt during the United States opening game against Wales.

Eric said on Instagram: “My name is Eric Wahl. I live in Seattle, Washington. I am Grant Wahl’s brother. I’m gay.

“I’m the reason he wore the rainbow shirt to the World Cup. My brother was healthy. He told me he received death threats. I do not believe my brother just died. I believe he was killed. And I just beg for any help.”

“We’re still trying to find out,” Eric continued.

“He collapsed at the stadium, was given CPR, was taken by Uber to hospital and died, according to Celine. (Grant’s wife) We just spoke with the state department, and Celine has spoken to Ron Klain and the White House.”

Eric, who works for CBS Sports, was detained on November 21 for wearing the shirt to the game at Qatar’s Ahmad bin Ali Stadium as a sign of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar.

He was detained for 30 minutes but was eventually let into the stadium.

Grant claimed his phone was “forcibly ripped” from his hands by a guard as he tweeted about the incident.

He tweeted on November 21: “I’m OK, but that was an unnecessary ordeal. Am in the media centre, still wearing my shirt. Was detained for nearly half an hour. Go gays”

He wrote in his Substack column: “Then a security commander approached me.

“He said they were letting me through and apologized. We shook hands. One of the security guards told me they were just trying to protect me from fans inside who could harm me for wearing the shirt … A Fifa rep later apologized to me as well.”

I HAD AN AFFAIR WITH THSALA MUANA- Vernon Mwaanga

0

I HAD AN AFFAIR WITH THSALA MUANA- VJ

FUN FACT

Did you know that veteran politician, Vernon Mwaanga, once dated that very beautiful Congolese songbird, Tshala Muana, and could have married her [in the 1980s] if he did not back out of the relationship?

For details, follow the excerpt below from

(Conversations with Memorable Personalities)

Amos Malupenga:

What epitaph would you like on your tombstone?

Vernon Mwaanga:

Well, whoever delivers the eulogy when my hour comes, I hope over and above whatever I have achieved or whatever negative I may have registered in life at least one thing should reflect on my tombstone that I did my best to serve my country and my people. That alone will give me satisfaction even when I am lying six feet below.

I did my best for my country and my people when it mattered most and no man is capable of exceeding his best. One of my satisfying achievements was to get Zambian soldiers involved in the United Nations peace keeping operations starting in Mozambique, Rwanda, Angola and now Sierra Leone.

President Chiluba and my Cabinet colleagues embraced this concept and so did the service chiefs – Nobby Simbeye, Ronnie Shikapwasha, Funjika and Xavier Chungu who gave their full support before I approached Kofi Annan who was then in charge of peace keeping at the UN headquarters in New York.

But one thing that intrigue me about the country is the attempt by people who don’t even know me to edit my history. They don’t have to like me but it would be a travesty to even remotely attempt to edit my history.

I have often said that men without a past cannot be used as a reliable guide to the future. Notwithstanding the current difficulties the country is going through, we should not lose ourselves as a people. We must turn self-doubt into self-belief. Any country at war with itself cannot develop no matter how great or noble its plans maybe. Consensus building and dialogue are an indispensable component of governance and development.

Amos Malupenga:

Finally, are you not going to talk about the issue of Tshala Muana being your lover. A lot was said about this, what is the truth?

Vernon Mwaanga:

Well, I must confess the answer I am going to give will probably break a few hearts. But in the interest of truth and integrity, I can say that I did have an affair with Tshala Muana. I first met her in Paris in the 80s and I was introduced to her by a mutual friend of ours who is a prominent business man in France.

As we moved near to elections’ time, Tshala Muana was invited to come here in 1991. She was supposed to assist us in MMD to raise some funds. She came here twice as you can remember.
Her visit caused controversy because there were close friends of mine who wanted to get involved with Tshala Muana but she said she was having an affair with me and she wouldn’t want to double cross me with other persons.

My friends took it badly and started scandalizing me over Tshala Muana. My relationship didn’t develop to the extent where she wanted it to be. She essentially wanted to get married to me but I wasn’t ready. I didn’t want the relationship to drift perilously towards marriage. I was content with maintaining the relationship where it was and I thought it was an appropriate level.
Such is human experience. I was single at the time and I was entitled to go for gold. But things didn’t work the way she wanted them to be. And it ended there.

Amos Malupenga:

And that issue was discussed in Cabinet?

Vernon Mwaanga:

Yes, the issue was discussed very informally and I remember my failed colleagues raising the issue with malice in Cabinet. They raised it by way of compliant. They said there are people, meaning I, who are having an affair with a singer.
Instead of being transparent enough and admit that they wanted this singer, they chose to scandalize me.

Men are entitled to try but when they are rebuffed, I don’t think they should scandalize other men who succeed, which is not right.

Amos Malupenga:

Thank you for your time and your forthright answers.

Vernon Mwaanga:

Thank you very much but these guys really tried to scandalize me after they tried their luck and bit the dust.

ZCCM-IH, FQM transaction is a bad deal – Haabazoka

ZCCM-IH, FQM transaction is a bad deal – Haabazoka

ECONOMIST Lubinda Haabazoka says if with common voting shares ZCCM-IH faced disputes with First Quantum Mines’ Kansanshi mine, he does not see any good that will come from the 3.1 per cent royalty deal.

“I think we need to be truthful and remove our egos. This is a bad deal,” he said.

Haabazoka told The Mast, in an interview, that it is quiet strange that “we have reached an agreement where we are forfeiting our right to claim a dividend in exchange for 3.1 per cent of revenue”.

“If with common shares and voting shares we had disputes with the same mine I just don’t see any good that will come from the investor in this particular case. I am positive that KCM (Konkola Copper Mines) and Mopani, ZCCM –IH won’t have anything to do there because if they are scared to hold 20 per cent in a mine that posts profits what more KCM and Mopani?” he asked.

“It is quiet strange that we have reached an agreement where we are forfeiting our right to claim a dividend in exchange for 3.1 per cent of revenue and it is not even clear whether this is going to be revenue after cost of gross revenue because what I know is what governs shareholding is the company’s Act and also we have tax laws in this country. So the deal in itself means we are converting our common shares that give us voting rights into preferred shares which are semi-equity – meaning the characteristics of debt and equity and the dividend has been put at 3.1 per cent. So what we need to ask ourselves is that, if the previous ZCCM-IH has suspicion that there was under declaration of dividends, surely in whose best interest is this deal? Why can’t the other owners of the same mine also go into such type of arrangement with government to say ‘for our 80 per cent shareholding we are going to be getting this much. Why should they push it to us?”

Haabazoka said that the government should have demanded for both royalty and dividends.

“Our shares were voting shares and we had dispute with FQM on the declaration of income. I remember then ZCCM-IH CEO (chief executive officer) Pius Kasolo taking on this case and he was very confident that we were going to win it,” he said.

“Zambia gets mineral royalty tax which is regardless of whether there is profit or not. So why should we again go for the same? I was of the view that we get mineral royalty and on the other hand we benefit from the profits. Unfortunately, the language they have used cannot be broken down even by an average economist. You really need to understand the company’s Act and you also need to understand dividend policy and shareholding. For me I think this should have been taken to Parliament for debate.”

Haabazoka observed that there was use of jargon to mislead Zambians.

“What we have now is no longer common share. Common share has certain principles which this government has violated. We will be lucky if they have converted preferred shares and not forfeited our shares for some financial instrument. A lot of economic jargon is being used to confuse the population and posterity will judge us harshly,” he warned.

“If we had a history of not receiving dividends and under declaration, what ghost has entered into the investors for them to give us a good deal? People that have been known to under declare will never give you a better deal because these are people that have been fighting for preferential tax treatment. They got mineral royalty now that is deductible. They have a mineral royalty that is administered like pay as you earn. Basically paying less and government is losing about K2.8 billion every year from the adjusted mineral royalty. Now we have to ask ourselves what is in it for us, 50,000 jobs? Government created 40,000 jobs, almost all what the mining sector employs.”

Haabazoka said there was need to harness that and use it for investment inflows.

“What we need from the mines are foreign exchange inflows and unfortunately, if we don’t have a grip on that we will not go anywhere. No matter how much we seem to be liberalists, capitalists or whatever, if God has given you comparative advantage and that is minerals, I think our generation is a letdown to this country. The generation of Dr [Kenneth] Kaunda are turning in their graves because we have been unable to harness anything from the mining industry,” noted Haabazoka.

“The investors are lying to us that if we give them this preferential treatment, they will increase production to three million tonnes? If we are going to be having six hours load shedding, which three million tonnes are we talking about? And I have not heard of any power project coming up on board. I have not heard of any smelting capacity coming up in Zambia. Everything is still. I think we need to be truthful and remove our egos. This is a bad deal.”

R. Kelly releases new album ‘I Admit It’ on Spotify and Apple

0

Spotify and Apple Music have removed R. Kelly’s prison album, I Admit It, in which he raps about the sex crimes that put him behind bars.

The 55-year-old somehow managed to release the 13-track album on both platforms on Friday. His record label claims it wasn’t them who put it out.

The album was available for a few hours before the streaming giants removed it.

Among its vile songs are the title track, which sees the perverted pedophile sneer: ‘I done f*** with a couple of fans… I admit I did it.’

He then responds to his victims’ stories of being imprisoned and deprived of food.

‘They’re brainwashed, really? Kidnapped, really? Can’t eat, really? Real talk, that s*** sound silly,’ he raps.

In other parts, he complains: ‘I got a life. I got a right. Cancel my shows? That ain’t right.’

Some of the tracks on the album date back to 2018 but have only existed on Soundcloud, until today.

It’s unclear why Spotify and Apple have allowed the singer to upload new materials, and it’s also unknown when the singer recorded the songs.

Kelly is incarcerated for sex trafficking and racketeering crimes. In June, he was sentenced to 30 years behind bars.

He sexually abused multiple girls as young as 13. Kelly famously married rapper Aaliyah when she was just 15 and he was 27.

Kelly forged paperwork to make it look like the singer was 18. She was killed in a plane crash in August 2002 aged just 21.

Elsewhere in I Admit It, Kelly sings: ‘I admit I just feel like retiring. I admit I don’t feel like trying. But all my real n*rs around me keep telling me: Kelz, f that you gotta keep climbing.’

The 55-year-old was sentenced to 30 years in prison in June after multiple trials in Chicago and New York on separate sexual trafficking charges.

His victims have spoken at length about how he manipulated them with his fame, luring them in when they were fans then trapping them in a harem-like dynamic with other women.

In the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly, they told how they were forced to perform sexual acts on each other for his pleasure.

Some described not being allowed to use their own phones, and being made to stay awake for days on end at Kelly and his posse’s request.

Kelly always denied the claims, insisting that the women were out to bleed him of his fortunes.

Rumors of his perverted behavior had circled for years, but a 2019 Lifetime documentary titled Surviving R Kelly finally led to charges being pursued.

Two weeks after the show was aired, Kelly was dropped by his record label.

Lawyer Michael Avenatti – himself jailed earlier this month for extortion – claimed to have obtained a tape of Kelly sexually abusing a 14 year-old girl.

Weeks later, he was charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse, and gave an erratic TV interview which saw him deny those charges.

That saw him yell, scream and cry to CBS journalist Gayle King.

The Chamber of Mines have issued a statement in defence of the ZCCM-IH/FQM Deal

A friend of mine wrote this reflection and I adopt it as mine.

The Chamber of Mines would do better to have press statements crafted by communication experts and not engineers.

The problem with engineers is that they communicate what is true, not what is right. The statement is technically correct but politically incorrect.

This communique contains facts. However, it would have been more impactful if it was written differently.

The tone is unnecessarily too confrontational or condescending and the choice of vocabulary is innappropriate for a key audience on matters of mining policy, including opposition politicians and the majority of Zambians who are deeply sided towards resource nationalism.

If not handled carefully, a populist politician can rise, win the next election and nationalize FQM. Let’s not underestimate the consequences of bad communication.

In my view, the following statements containing social media language should be rephrased or retracted:

1. … Chamber slams sensational misrepresentation …

2. Point scoring behaviourof pundits is willfully misrepresenting…

3. … one would have expected a broad apolitical support for …

4. … rather than this barrage of attacks we have seen in the media…

5. … the cessation of hostilities is extremely important for our optics in the global landscape …

6. … the 3.1% revenue-based royalty is at the top-end of the range normally seen…

7. … it’s time we stopped misrepresenting the facts, otherwise our opinion – and quality of our public debate – will be detached from reality…

8. … we must start getting behind the industry as… rather than just scoring points for points’ sake…

According to the authors of the statement, the Chamber of Mines is seeing some hostilities as if it’s in Ukraine.

They are also seeing those with divergent views as failing to rally behind development and just trying to score points for the sake of points.

Lastly, they are prioritizing optics on the international landscape rather than the concerns of Zambians.

To me this is a case study of how not to write a press statement in Zambia.

The authors have underestimated the nationalist sentiments and emotions of Zambians towards their god-given minerals, esp Copper.

The statement has also underestimated the power of politicians in Zambia and their ability to retaliate, including to attack the employees of FQM who head the Board of Chamber of Mines. This statement will be taken as a position of FQM trying to be insensitive to the concerns of Zambians.

Just observing loudly…
