Zambia National Women’s Lobby Encourages Aspiring Women Politicians to Prepare for 2026 Elections

0

The Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) is calling on women aspiring to enter the political arena and contest leadership positions in the 2026 general elections to start their preparations early. This is according to a statement released by Ms. Daisy Nkhata Ng’ambi,ZNWL National Board Chairperson. The organization is particularly extending this call to women who vied for political office in the 2021 general elections but did not succeed, urging them to consider re-entering the political arena with the valuable experience they have gained.

Women interested in contesting positions in the Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government elections in 2026 are encouraged to make the necessary preparations now. In situations where women candidates lack essential qualifications, such as the Grade 12 certificate, the ZNWL advises them to quickly register for the General Certificate in Education (GCE) examination.

For those women who aspire to political leadership but are currently unaffiliated with any political party, ZNWL suggests identifying a political party whose principles align with their leadership goals. To enhance their chances of adoption or nomination by a political party, these women need to position themselves effectively by demonstrating their commitment and hard work to the party.

Moreover, ZNWL calls upon women who are already members of political parties to unite and offer support to women possessing leadership qualities, facilitating their adoption as candidates during elections. By utilizing their collective influence and the power of their numbers, women within political parties can work towards ensuring not only representation within the party but also on a national level.

The significance of having a substantial number of women in leadership roles, at all levels of governance, cannot be overstated. ZNWL believes this will set a positive example for the future and drive more gender-inclusive policies and practices.

Furthermore, the organization encourages women to register as voters and to motivate other women, especially those engaged in politics, to seize the opportunity of the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise in various parts of the country.

ZNWL reiterates that women’s participation in politics is vital for enhancing democracy and ensuring that the diverse needs of citizens, particularly women, are addressed effectively. Women, regardless of their background, should express their interest in political participation and leadership at all levels.

ZNWL National Board Chairperson

Chris Rock’s slap wasn’t about me – Jada Pinkett Smith drops another bombshell

0

The mystery surrounding the real motive behind Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars keeps getting murkier by the day. In another explosive bombshell, Jada Pinkett Smith has clarified that she was not the reason behind Will Smith’s infamous slap at Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.

She refuted claims that she played a role in Will Smith’s Oscar night slap of Rock. At the 2022 Academy Awards, Will Smith slapped Rock in response to a joke about Jada’s appearance due to her alopecia. Rock likened her to “G.I. Jane” due to her bald head, which she had revealed was a result of her battle with alopecia.

Viewers had speculated that Jada signaled Will with a disapproving eye roll, but she dispelled this notion on Steven Bartlett’s podcast, emphasizing that she had no involvement in the incident and even suggested that Rock had avoided the slap.

She humorously downplayed the idea of her influencing Will’s actions, saying, “Even if it was [a signal], I can’t force Will to do anything!”

She said she held the expectation of being blamed for the Oscar night incident, stating that she knew it would cause a significant controversy, according to the Daily Mail.

When asked if she viewed Will’s actions as an act of love, Jada disclosed that she had been separated from Will at the time of the incident and described the moment as really complicated and complex. She was uncertain whether Will’s actions amounted to an act of love. According to her, she viewed it from the perspective of a yes and no angle, indicating that it was Will’s way of responding to the situation, but it went beyond their personal dynamics.

But, Jada insisted that the Oscar’s incident was not about her, adding that it involved broader factors and emotions. She explained that the other factors at play included the release of Will’s film “Emancipation” and the deep history between him and Chris Rock.

Jada recently disclosed that she and Will had quietly separated seven years ago and have been living apart. In the conversation, she revealed that during their separation, she felt resentment towards Will, as she believed she had been disregarded in the pursuit of his dreams.

She attributed the issues in their relationship to differences in their love languages and her mistaken belief that she would find happiness through Will instead of within herself. She described Will’s love language as centered around providing material security and working hard to fulfill her needs. In contrast, her own love language focused on emotional connection and the desire for his presence and affection, rather than material wealth. Their relationship dynamics were influenced by these distinct love languages.

Oprah, Jay-Z and other Black American billionaires who aren’t rich enough to make The Forbes 400

0

Each year, Forbes puts out a list of the 400 wealthiest people in the United States of America. Per the U.S. magazine, the world’s wealthiest 400 collectively made $4.5 trillion, tying a record set in 2021.

Prior to that, they had collectively lost $500 billion, but they have gained it all back. The business magazine explained that half of the gains were a result of rebounding technology stocks. Net worths were calculated using stock prices from September 8, 2023.

Although there are about 10 black billionaires in America, only three Blacks made The Forbes 400 list and they were all men: Robert F. Smith, David Steward, and Michael Jordan. There was no Black woman on the list.

These black billionaires in America were not rich enough to make the grade.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey narrowly missed the cut for the third time in a row after having made the ranks for 25 years straight. She has an estimated net worth of $2.8 billion, making her one of the richest Americans. She was ranked 13th on Forbes’ latest ranking of the wealthiest self-made women in America.

According to Forbes, the media mogul made her money from reinvesting profits from her talk show and films like The Color Purple, Beloved, and Selma. Winfrey launched the cable channel OWN in 2011. Her 25.5% of the network is worth more than $65 million while her stake in Weight Watchers is around 10%.

Jay-Z

Jay-Z is one of the black billionaires in America too poor to make the Forbes 400 list. His $2.5 billion net worth was not enough to earn him a spot on the prestigious list. The celebrated rapper hit multi-billion status following the sale of his controlling stake in the D’USSÉ Cognac brand for $750 million.

Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter in 1969, has made a name for himself as one of the best rappers in the world who is unearthing music talents. While still active in music, he ventured into entrepreneurship through the launch of multiple business and startup investments.

His move into entrepreneurship paid off as a series of deals by the rapper saw his net worth increase by 40 percent, according to the latest valuation of his assets. For instance, he sold more than half of his stake in Tidal video and audio streaming services to Square, a digital payment platform run by Jack Dorsey.

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods has a net worth of $1 billion. Tiger Woods went from grace to grass and made a rebound, claiming his spot as a leading golf player in the world. He earned $2.1 billion from his career and also benefited from a longtime Nike partnership.

However, Woods saw his career take a hit following a publicized divorce due to infidelity, losing multiple endorsement deals as a result, having a few run-ins with the law, and enduring a string of injuries.

The athlete, however, managed to put his past behind him and proved his doubters wrong. Described as one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history, the 47-year-old won his fifth Masters title at the Augusta National in 2019, making it his first major victory after 11 years.

Woods’ historic win was lauded on social media by Barack Obama, President Donald Trump, Lebron James, Serena Williams, and longtime partner, Nike, which stood by him throughout his tumultuous years, among others.

LeBron James

LeBron James is the first active NBA player to become a billionaire, according to Forbes. Though all-time basketball legend Michael Jordan is currently the NBA’s only other billionaire, he did not reach that mark until 2014, years after he retired from the NBA.

Forbes also noted that the Los Angeles Lakers star has “maximized his business,” to more than $1.2 billion in pretax earnings. “He has commanded more than $385 million in salary from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers, as the NBA’s highest-paid active player. Off the court, he has raked in upwards of $900 million in income from endorsements and other business ventures,” Forbes wrote.

However, he owes his billionaire status to his major streams of income beyond the basketball court. “James has long structured deals to give him equity in brands he partners with, giving him a cut of the upside instead of a quick paycheck.”

Lupita Nyong’o’s fans rally behind her after break-up from Selema Masekela

0

Fans of Kenyan Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o have rallied behind her after she revealed her break-up from US-based TV host Selema Masekela.

Nyong’o opened up on Instagram, saying she wanted to share “a personal truth”.

“I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception,” she wrote, without naming anyone.

Masekela has not said anything and has turned off his Instagram comments.

Nyong’o, an A-list Hollywood actress who made history in 2014 as the first Kenyan to win an Oscar and the second African to do so after South African actress Charlize Theron, made public her relationship with Masekela in December last year.

“We just click!” Nyong’o captioned the video introducing their relationship, which she has since deleted.

Selema, the son of South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela, also gushed about Nyong’o in a separate post.

“Hearts are synched. My whole and actual love Lupita Nyongo,” he said.

In her break-up post, Nyong’o said she wanted to “publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust” and that her love was “extinguished by deception”.

The news of the split has surprised many of the couple’s fans, who saw the announcement of their relationship as a heart-warming moment that came years after Masekela had asked his fans for advice on how to strike up a conversation with the Black Panther star.

“Hypothetically speaking of course, let’s say you are seated behind Lupita Nyong’o on an airplane. What would be your opening line?” Masekela posted on X in 2016.

Nyong’o’s fans and some of her celebrity friends have posted thousands of comments in support of the star, who has built a large fanbase over the years with her captivating performances in Hollywood hits like Us and Black Panther.

“We lift you up with love and sisterhood. Your miracles are all around you. Let us count them in confidence and faith,” said Oscar-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay.

Many fans have also hailed Nyong’o for her “bravery” and willingness to openly share a private and sensitive issue with the world.

Nyong’o said in her post that she hoped “knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it”.

There have been barely any comments supporting Masekela.

Niger junta says ousted President Mohamed Bazoum tried to escape

0

The military government in Niger says it has foiled an attempt by the deposed former President, Mohamed Bazoum, to escape from custody.

The former president attempted to flee in the night with his family, cooks, and security, a military spokesman said.

There were plans for the group to fly out on helicopters but the plan was foiled, he added.

Mr Bazoum has been under house arrest since members of his presidential guard staged a coup in late July.

Niger is part of the African region known as the Sahel – a belt of semi-arid land that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea, just south of the Sahara Desert. The area is plagued by jihadists and beset by military regimes.

The attempted escape happened at around 03:00 (02:00 GMT) on Thursday, military spokesman Amadou Abdramane said on state television.

“The ousted President Mohamed Bazoum and his family, his two cooks and two security elements, tried to escape from his place of detention,” he said.

The escape bid failed and “the main actors and some of the accomplices” were arrested, he added.

The elaborate plan involved Mr Bazoum getting to a hideout on the outskirts of the capital Niamey, Mr Abdramane said.

The group had then planned to fly out on helicopters “belonging to a foreign power” towards Nigeria, he added, denouncing Mr Bazoum’s “irresponsible attitude”.

It is not clear where the former president and the rest of the group are now being held. An investigation has been launched.

The Niger military overthrew the democratically elected president in a coup on 26 July.

It mirrored similar military takeovers in neighbouring Burkina Faso and Mali, amid an Islamist insurgency and a growing Russian influence in the wider Sahel region through its mercenary group Wagner.

As in Mali, Niger’s junta has ordered French troops based in the country to help fight the jihadists to leave the country. The first convoy from Niger arrived in neighbouring Chad on Thursday after a nine-day trip, the French military said.

Mr Bazoum has refused to officially resign.

Despite his captivity, he was able to publish an article in The Washington Post stating that he was a hostage and that the coup would have “devastating consequences for our country, our region, and the entire world”.

Soon after Mr. Bazoum was overthrown, US President Joe Biden called for him to be “immediately released”, and for the “preservation of Niger’s hard-earned democracy”.

That followed the expiration of a deadline by Ecowas, a power bloc of West African states, for the coup leaders to stand down.

Its threats of military intervention were not followed through, and the junta continues to ignore demands for the president’s freedom.

Mr. Bazoum’s party and family members say he has had no access to running water, electricity or fresh goods.

Africa has special place in the heart of the Turkish nation – President Erdogan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the Closing Ceremony of the 4th Türkiye-Africa Business and Economic Forum at Istanbul Congress Center.

“AFRICA HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN THE TURKISH NATION’S HEART”

Stressing that Türkiye has worked to advance its relations with Africa on the basis of equal partnership and win-win principle, President Erdoğan stated that Africa has a special place in the Turkish nation’s heart as well as in the country’s foreign policy.

Noting that he paid more than 50 visits to Africa during his terms in office as Prime Minister and as President, President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye has increased the number of its embassies in Africa to 44.

“We are proud to be hosting 38 African embassies in Ankara. The number of our commercial counsellors will reach 31. We have established business councils with 48 countries. The number of countries with which we have agreements on the mutual promotion and protection of investments has increased to 32.

“We are glad to see that our relations with Africa in every area from trade to investments to culture and education are strengthening day by day. We are of the opinion that the African continent’s free trade zone will offer major opportunities for trade and investments in the days ahead.”

“WE VIEW AFRICA’S SUCCESS AS OUR OWN SUCCESS”

Stressing that Türkiye views Africa’s success as its own success, President Erdoğan said: “We fully supported the African Union’s G20 membership since the very beginning.

“Accordingly, we welcomed the African Union’s admission as a member during the recent G20 Summit in New Delhi. I congratulate the President of the Comoros, my treasured brother Azali Assoumani on this significant membership, which materialized during his term presidency.

“Rest assured that we will continue to provide every kind of contribution in order for the African continent to take its rightful place in the global system.”

“WE HAVE PREVENTED THE FOOD CRISIS FROM GETTING WORSE WITH THE BLACK SEA INITIATIVE”

Noting that saddening incidents are unfortunately taking place at a global and regional scale, President Erdoğan said: “I attach importance to the initiative launched by some African leaders to stop the war between Ukraine and Russia through peaceful means.

“We also have been working for peace since the outset of the war. We have prevented the food crisis from getting worse with the Black Sea initiative. We enabled the safe passage of 33 million tons of grain through our straits during the period when the initiative was operational.

“However, we are aware that our African brothers and sisters couldn’t benefit from the grain to the extent we desired despite all our sincere efforts. We conveyed our annoyance on this issue to our counterparts on numerous occasions.”

Noting that old colonial habits manifested themselves on this issue as well, President Erdoğan stated: “The problems endured by our African brothers and sisters have not been taken into consideration enough by rich western countries. We particularly attach importance to the fairer and more effective distribution of grain among African countries.

“We know that some African countries’ concerns increased because the Black Sea Initiative was not extended. During our talks with President of Russia Mr. Putin, we discussed and continue to discuss what can be done to address these concerns.

“Our talks continue in a bid to send 1 million tons of grain to the continent in the first phase. I believe these efforts will inshallah yield positive outcomes.”

“PUNISHING THE GAZAN PEOPLE COLLECTIVELY WILL CAUSE MORE SUFFERING”

Commenting on the Israel-Palestine conflict, President Erdoğan stated: “While we were already experiencing the negative impacts of the Russia-Ukraine war, the incidents unfolding between Israel and Palestine have deeply shaken us all. We are worried about the possibility of the tension to further aggravate and spread to the region.”

President Erdoğan stated: “We say it openly that we never have and never will approve of such attacks as the bombing of mosques, hospitals and civilian settlements. It is evident that the blockade, which worsens the humanitarian situation in Gaza, renders the region open and susceptible to provocations. Cutting off the electricity, water, fuel and food of 2 million people squeezed into 360 square kilometers amounts to a violation of the most basic human rights. Punishing the Gazan people collectively will only exacerbate the problem, causing more suffering, more tensions, and more tears.”

Stressing that the Israeli administration should allow the passage of humanitarian aid through the Rafah border crossing, President Erdoğan noted: “We sent a humanitarian aid plane to El Arish Airport this morning, which contains medicine, durable food, canned goods, diapers, and medical supplies. Our plane, which has been carrying first aid cargo to the region since the conflict started, has landed at the airport at noon today.”

“WE WILL DELIVER OUR HUMANITARIAN AID TO GAZA IN CLOSE COOPERATION WITH EGYPTIAN AUTHORITIES”

Drawing attention to the ongoing preparations by the AFAD to send more aid supplies to the region, President Erdoğan said: “While we are doing these, while the United Arab Emirates is doing these, while Qatar is sending aid, while Saudi Arabia is doing these, we see that America is speaking of dispatching an aircraft carrier, England is speaking of dispatching an aircraft carrier here. Do these have a place in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?”

Commenting on the incidents unfolding in Gaza, President Erdoğan stated: “Right now, Gaza is being annihilated, including its women, children and mothers. No one cares about this. But we do. If you have even the slightest respect for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, take no offense but everyone needs to seek ways to help here. They should rather talk about this. Yet, this is not what they care about.”

President Erdoğan added: “We will continue to send humanitarian aid to Gaza in close cooperation with the brotherly Egyptian authorities. At a time when millions of people face hunger, cutting off the humanitarian aid to the Palestinians has been inscribed as a new disgrace in the faces of those who have taken this decision.”

Calling on all the sides to first negotiate a ceasefire and then a permanent peace by acting with common sense, President Erdoğan said: “My Foreign Minister is now on his way to Egypt. Both myself, my Foreign Minister, and my MIT Director continue their talks in an intensive manner for the release of hostages and to find a solution to the crisis. However, some actors’ provocative attitudes, adding fuel to the fire instead of trying to restore peace, both undermine our efforts and further deepen the crisis.”

“WE ARE DETERMINED TO ELIMINATE THE TERROR THREAT AGAINST OUR COUNTRY AT ITS SOURCE”

Stressing that Gaza is now a victim and that it is being oppressed but that Israel is not in a position of being a victim or being oppressed, President Erdoğan pointed out that the U.S. deployment of aircraft carriers to the region doesn’t contribute at all to peace, calm, dialogue and diplomacy or to reducing the tension between the sides.

Criticizing the U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken over his remarks that he approaches Israel not as a foreign minister but as a Jewish, President Erdoğan stated: “What kind of politician is this? What kind of approach is this? Then if someone says I’m approaching the region as a Muslim, what will you say? We don’t make any discrimination like there are Turks and there is this and that… You should approach everyone as a human.”

Touching upon U.S. President Joe Biden’s comments on Syria, President Erdoğan said: “Actually, the approach reflected by the statement the U.S. President made yesterday on Syria is the same stance we voice regarding their activities in the region. That is to say, the activities the U.S. carries out in Syria in collaboration with the extensions of the PKK pose an extraordinary threat to Türkiye’s national security. Are we not together with the U.S. at NATO? Yes, we are. Yet, has the U.S. downed our UAV? Yes, it has. Then, how come we are together with you at NATO! How can you do something like this? We have a security problem between us. The statement in question is not only incompatible with the spirit of alliance and strategic partnership, but also encourages terrorist organizations striving to split Syria. We are determined to eliminate the terror threat against our country at its source, regardless of who stands behind the terrorist organization.”

President Erdoğan further stressed: “As the only NATO ally that engaged in close combat with DAESH and defeated this terrorist organization at the cost of giving martyrs, it is just with a bitter smile that we watch this play enacted against us. We will leave the actors of this play alone with their own scenarios and continue to take the steps required by our own national security.”

“PEACE WILL BE ELUSIVE IN THE REGION WITHOUT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INDEPENDENT STATE OF PALESTINE”

President Erdoğan underlined that the recent incidents have once again shown that peace will be elusive in the region without the establishment of an independent, sovereign and geographically integrated State of Palestine within the 1967 borders, with East Al-Quds as its capital.

President Erdoğan added that he has no doubts whatsoever that Türkiye’s African friends, who have been subjected to oppression, exploitation and invasion throughout centuries, will do whatever is necessary for the establishment of a State of Palestine within the 1967 borders.

“WE WANT THE ONGOING INFIGHTING IN SUDAN TO STOP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE”

Noting that along with positive developments, Africa also witnesses saddening incidents, President Erdoğan said: “We want the ongoing infighting in Sudan to stop as soon as possible and the crisis to be settled peacefully. We will continue our humanitarian aid to alleviate the Sudanese people’s suffering. It is true that the Sahel region faces significant political, economic, social and security challenges. We wish that Niger, which has been going through difficult times recently, may achieve constitutional order and democratic administration as soon as possible. We hope the ongoing efforts for a peaceful settlement to be successful. Any military intervention into Niger might drag both this country and the entire region into a deep instability. We think it is important to preserve peace and stability in Gabon.”

“TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS BOKO HARAM, AL SHABAB AND DAESH ARE OUR COMMON ENEMY”

Pointing out that the sacred struggle which Türkiye wages with the motto, the World is bigger than 5, is not only for Türkiye’s benefit but also for the benefit of its African brothers and sisters, President Erdoğan stressed that the recent incidents have once again demonstrated that it is a mistake to leave the fate of the whole humanity to the mercy of the UN Security Council’s five members.

It is a grave injustice that the 1.5 million-population African continent doesn’t have a say in the UN Security Council, President Erdoğan said: “We should join forces in order for Africa to be represented at the Security Council in a manner it deserves.

“As a country that has been fighting the separatist terrorist organization for nearly 40 years, we know well the security challenges faced by our African brothers and sisters.

“Terrorist organizations such as Boko Haram, Al Shabab and DAESH are not only a few countries’ problem, but are the common enemy of all of us. In our view, there is no difference between FETO and PKK and these terrorist organizations that claim the lives of innocent Africans.

“I once again offer my gratitude to all of our friends who support our fight against FETO, forbidding these terrorists’ activities and shutting down or handing over to our Maarif Foundation the so-called educational institutions affiliated with this organization.”

Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu Accuses UPND Govt of Authoritarianism

0

Emeritus Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu issued a statement on October 19, 2023, expressing concerns about what he termed as emerging authoritarian tendencies of the New Dawn government. He called for a halt to the interference with statutory institutions and the restoration of the rule of law in Zambia. Below is the full press statement.

By Emeritus Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu

19th October 2023.

We write this statement in light of the emerging authoritarian tendencies by the New Dawn government in which state institutions are now being abused despite the assurances from the Executive arm of government.

Here we attempt to highlight just a few examples;

1.Freedom of Assembly and association

Zambians are now living in a police state where their fundamental rights and freedoms are at the mercy of the state police who have been weaponized against the opposition and those with opposing views.

The opposition Political Parties whose business is not only to provide checks and balances but also to mobilize support through direct contacts with the people are constantly and unreasonably stopped by the State Police to carry out their constitutional responsibilities with impunity.

2.Freedom of movement

Like it’s with accused suspects or indeed those facing Criminal Charges in this Country, Our Former President is Constructively imprisoned by the State.

The former President can’t leave the Country, can’t freely attend some functions of his own choosing or move out of Lusaka without State approval.

The former President cannot leave the Country for medical reasons or review which thousands of Zambians are currently accessing.

What kind of hatred and abuse of State Power is this?

3.Case of Sishuwa Sishuwa and the Hot FM Radio

The State has started using IBA, a ‘captured’ statutory Body to intimidate the private media in Zambia, Hot FM Radio has some of the Best Radio presenters in the Country and one cannot sanction them because you feel offended and you are welding State power. This is another clear case of abuse of state power by the executive branch of government.

The UPND administration is trying to gag the private media through intimidation and harassment by using Statutory institutions like IBA and the Cyber Security Act. Sishuwa as a researcher was merely stating the obvious facts as they are being played out by this administration using the media (Hot FM Radio) to broadcast his serious concerns. And that’s within the laws of Country. It’s for the UPND administration to take heed and make amends.

4.The use of ACC, DEC and The State Police

The UPND administration has abused the State Institutions of Good Governance for political purposes to get at many individuals who have fallen out of favor and are deemed unworthy compatriots to their cause.

The removal of the Auditor General’s entire personnel through ACC and charging them with financial misconduct and yet refusing them a Court process is totally inappropriate and unconstitutional.

The Seizure of property before investigations are conducted and freezing personal and business accounts for a period exceeding two years without any judicial process in the name of audits/investigations is purely harassment of Citizens and political opponents using State Power.

There’s More Corruption in the UPND administration than ever before under the watch of d captured ACC, DEC and the State Police. President HH promised to fight Corruption but ns Heart is not in it. Quite shameful, frankly speaking, Authoritarianism is a ruse that fails to solve a fundamental Problem.

5.Dictatorship widens the wedge between the governors and the governed.

The stubborn confrontation with Citizens who criticize the Government is an under appreciation of the Vote we gave you. The conduct engaged in by the Government and the Captured State Institutions whose Heads took Oath to Uphold the Constitution is Potentially prejudicial to the vindication of fundamental rights and freedoms.

You should be reminded that, you are violating the Constitution under which you Took the Oath of Office.

6.The Registrar of Society

We want to remind the Captured Registrar of Societies that She’s NOT a Regulator of Political Parties and must not be abused by some shenanigans in the executive.

Please Stop interfering in political parties’ internal affairs like the holding of Conventions and the like.

7.Civil Society, Church, LAZ and The Diplomatic Corps

We are appealing to LAZ, The Church, Civil Society and the Diplomatic Corps to take interest in the creeping dictatorship before it takes root in the Country.

We demand that the New Dawn Administration stop interfering with the statutory institutions that are mandated to protect, regulate and enforce the laws of Zambia as the first step in the restoration of the rule of law in Zambia.

Signed

Emeritus Archbishop Telesphore G. Mpundu.

Concerns Mount Over President Hichilema’s Absence from National Day of Prayers for Third Consecutive Year

PRESS STATEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Concerns Mount Over President Hichilema’s Absence from National Day of Prayers for Third Consecutive Year

Lusaka 19th October, 2023

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are deeply concerned about the consistent absence of President Hakainde Hichilema from the National Day of Prayers for the past three years. We believe that this deliberate decision stems from a lack of understanding and forgiveness in his heart.

As an organization, we acknowledge that the creation of this day may have had some political undertones, aimed at diverting attention from the economic challenges faced by the people, which have worsened in our current times. However, irrespective of the motive behind its introduction, we firmly believe that when prayers are earnestly offered by righteous people to our Lord Jesus, answers are provided.

The scripture in 2nd Chronicles 7:14 serves as the foundational basis on which national leaders should prioritize the importance of this day. It states, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Nevertheless, the real issue at hand lies in President Hakainde Hichilema’s failure to recognize the significance that this day deserves. It is worth noting that the National Day of Prayers was established during the reign of President Edgar Lungu, whom President Hichilema has consistently perceived as his enemy. Consequently, it is highly doubtful that such a leader would attribute any genuine intentions to this day other than attempting to gain political mileage from the Christian community.

Moreover, during the formation of the National Day of Prayer, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema was facing severe and life-threatening political persecution, which went unnoticed and unaddressed. As a result, he found it hypocritical and continues to hold this sentiment to this day.

Therefore, the EFF urgently calls upon the Church’s mother bodies to establish a conciliatory commission that can help bridge the deep divide that currently plagues our nation. We believe it is essential to address the challenges we face head-on and resolve any underlying issues. The EFF places great confidence in the wisdom and counsel of the Church in fostering unity and healing for our country.

NAPSA SELLING PRIME BUILDINGS AND PLOTS…strain to fund Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway and pay-outs of pre-retirement benefits- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

0

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

NAPSA SELLING PRIME BUILDINGS AND PLOTS

…strain to fund Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway and pay-outs of pre-retirement benefits,all political decisions, take a financial toll….

We have strongly criticised the forced decision to make the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and the Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB) fund a consortium of Chinese companies to upgrade the 327 km Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway.

The two social security pension funds have been directed to lend $300million to Macro Ocean Investment Consortium that comprises AVIC International Project Engineering, Zhenjiang Communications Construction Group and China Railway Seventh Group.

Under normal circumstances, the chinese Consortium must bring in the investment as this is a Public Private Partnership.

But instead public funds will be used to fund a private entity to do a public road.

The Consortium has already taken over collection of road tolls and will do so for the next 25 years.

Coming from paying pre-retirement partial payments of $650million to eligible members, NAPSA is clearly cash strapped.

NAPSA has put up for sale, some of its premium plots of land and buildings in Lusaka. Some buildings were bought in the 70s and straddle seven administrations of Presidents!

But this is a neo-liberal government that believe in privatization and the limited role of state-owned and public enterprises in the economy.

I expected NAPSA to announce investment in the upgrade and extensive rehabilitation of these building to attract premium rentals as most buildings have fallen into dilapidation.

NAPSA’S LIQUIDITY

The National Pension Scheme Authority says it has invested over 69 percent of the fund into liquid assets which makes it able to meet its financial obligations either from fresh funds from contribution collections or maturities from its liquid instruments.

NAPSA has an investment portfolio of K71 billion ($3.5billion), which has been invested in diverse asset classes including fixed and liquid assets to meet benefit payout obligations as and when they occur.

We Cannot Leave Governance To The Politician Alone – Dr Fred M’membe

WE CANNOT LEAVE GOVERNANCE TO THE POLITICIAN ALONE – DR M’MEMBE

…says the politician alone is incapable of helping our people to develop a society that they want

Lusaka, Friday, October 20, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

Leader of the opposition Socialist Party (SP) Dr Fred M’membe has warned that the leadership of the country should not be left to politicians alone.

Dr M’membe argued that politicians alone are incapable of developing a society.

He said when he featured on Prime TV’s “One on One” with Frank Mutubila that leaving the affairs of a country to a politician alone is a big mistake.

“We cannot leave this country to the politician alone. The politician alone is incapable of giving our people or helping our people develop a society that they want. When you are choosing leadership from a family, the best usually become greatest leaders. Then we pick traditional leaders, when you are picking a village headman, you pick the best in the village. When you pick a chief…we pick the best,” he said.

“Then what remains is from where we pick the politician. Usually the most the most crooked, and so on. They become the politicians. And these are the ones you want to leave the destine of the society solely in their hands, it’s a big mistake.”

When asked what Socialist was going to give to the Zambians, Dr M’membe clarified that nobody gives anything to the people.

“It’s not what we want to give to the Zambian people. Nobody gives anything to the people. Nobody gives anything to the people. The people give themselves everything. The little they have is what they themselves have given themselves,” he said.

“Even if politicians come and say twamipele ifi, twamiletele ifi, or tukamilitele ifi, tukamipele ifi, it’s not them. It’s the people who give themselves. The Socialist Party is simply a midwife to help give birth to a new society,” he said.

“With or without the Socialist, that new society, that is more fair, that is more just, that is more humane society will come. It is inevitable it will come. The same way with a pregnant woman, whether there is midwife or not the child will be born.”

He explained that the role of the midwife is to smoothen up the delivery process.

The opposition leader said SP wants to help create a fairer, more humane and more just society.

“A society in which all the people participate. But we also know that people participate through their leaders. The national leadership has to play a role, the religious leadership has to play a role, the political leadership has to play a role and other civic leaders have to participate,” he said.

HH Holds No Grudge Against Edgar Lungu But PF Holds A Grudge Against HH For Winning 2021 Elections- UPND

HH HOLDS NO GRUDGE AGAINST ECL BUT PF HOLDS A GRUDGE AGAINST HH FOR WINNING 2021 ELECTIONS

By Ruth Dante

It is very wrong and for the self proclaimed civil rights and political activist, Brebner Changala to continue creating a perception that President Hakainde Hichilema holds a grudge against his predecessor, Edgar Lungu.

At a time like this when President Hichilema had set the wheels of Zambia’s economic recovery in motion, we expected Mr Changala to blow a trumpet on the positive narrative that highlights the tremendous strides that has been achieved during the UPND’s first two years in government.

For MR Changala to continue peddling unfounded lies to the effect that there was tension between President Hichilema and Mr Lungu and to claim further that there are irreconcilable differences between the two is an illusion which only exists in Mr Changala himself.

Also the bewildering assertions by same MrvChangala that Zambia is more divided under President Hichilema’s leadership and that the head of State is shunning so called “political foes” amounts to the grandest of lies ever told in Zambia’s political history.

President Hichilema doesn’t regard political opponents as enemies but competitors who are key players in Zambia’s political dispensation.

How could Mr Changala forget so easily that recently President Hichilema made mention that he and his predecessor, Mr Edgar Lungu are in talking terms?

What Mr Changala could have done if at all he means well was to enquire from the PF leadership why they keep creating a perception that President Hichilema habours a grudge against Mr Lungu.

Where is he basing such assertions? Has Mr Lungu himself told him that? Or, is he, like most PF members still reeling from the shock of the heavy defeat that the PF suffered at the hands of UPND in 2021?

So we wish to advise Zambians not to take Mr Changala seriously because our guess could be that he may be frustrated from missing out on political appoints in the New Dawn government.

That stated, we wish to challenge Mr Changala to get back to reality and and wear fair political lenses that would make him come to terms with reality that Zambia was on a speedy path of recovery.

It is also imperative for us to state that the President has not moved in to commence the removal of Lungu’s Presidential Immunity one indicator that there is no bad blood between the two. So, why should Changala seem to take keen on celebrating and championing a narrative of political division?

Statement On Criticism By Some Sections Of Society Regarding Some Measures That Govt Is Taking To Stabilize Mealie Meal Prices

0

STATEMENT ON CRITICISM BY SOME SECTIONS OF SOCIETY REGARDING SOME MEASURES THAT GOVERNMENT IS TAKING TO STABILISE MEALIE MEAL PRICES

19th October, 2023

Government has observed that debate has continued raging over the cheaper mealie meal that has been offloaded on the market by the Zambia National Service (ZNS).

We wish to emphasise that it is the duty of Government, everywhere in the world, to ensure that the cost of the staple food is within the reach of its citizens.

The nation may wish to know that there is a clear background to the rise in the cost of mealie meal.

The mealie meal price increase was triggered by the increased purchase price of maize, from K180 last year to K280 this year.

As you may be aware, if maize price is increased, it is inevitable that mealie meal prices must increase.

Increasing the maize purchase price was a deliberate strategy to increase maize production.

Commercial farmers had abandoned maize production because it was unprofitable and, consequently, maize production in the country started going down while demand was rising, both on the local market and on the international market.

There was, therefore, need for Government to come up with a strategy to bring back commercial farmers in the maize field.

This Government envisages that when the country produces more maize, it will be able to export the surplus to the many countries that are yearning for Zambian maize.

Government anticipates that the money that the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) will raise from exporting surplus maize will be enough to subsidise the sale of the remaining maize to Zambians at a moderate price.

In the meantime, Government has put in place a number of measures to cushion the high cost of mealie meal on the vulnerable.

Offloading the current stocks of maize to ZNS, in order to produce cheaper mealie meal, is one of the many measures that this Government has put in place to cushion the impact of the cost of living while it implements long term measures to emancipate the Zambian people from the shackles of poverty that they were left in by the previous regime.

Other measures include the following:
(a) The most vulnerable citizens have been put on social cash transfer.
(b) Government has introduced free education so that citizens use the money saved by not paying school fees to buy mealie meal and other essential commodities.
(c) Government has allowed partial withdrawal of NAPSA so that more people can grow maize and benefit directly from the increased purchase price of maize. There is also a loan facility that has been introduced to support maize production.
(d) Government has introduced CDF bursaries and reintroduced meal allowances for students so that parents are able to afford mealie meal and other essential commodities at the current price.
(e) Government has enhanced the employment of citizens so that more people are employed and are able to afford mealie meal and other essential commodities at the current price.

Government reiterates its desire and determination to ensure the improvement of the living standards of the people.

Malawi facing worst food crisis in decade, requires $81 million in relief aid says UN agency

More than 2.8 million people will face hunger in the coming months in the worst food crisis in a decade in Malawi, where a staggering four out of every 10 children suffer from stunting, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warned today.

“People in some affected districts have already started selling their livestock to make ends meet,” WFP said in a press release. “Women are also engaging in more firewood and charcoal selling, which degrades the environment and further aggravates the fragile climate.”

“The agency said more than 2.8 million people will face hunger in the coming months following severe floods and drought that ruined this year’s harvest.

“ “The floods early this year were the worst in living memory in Malawi, washing away homes and food stocks, and ruining fertile land,” it said. “Some crops managed to withstand the floods only to succumb to intense dry spells in the following months, making survival even more difficult for the most vulnerable.”

“Since the end of last year, WFP has provided relief assistance to avert hunger in households hit by poor rainfall during the 2013/14 growing season and the floods in early 2015. This operation has reached more than one million vulnerable people.

“WFP, which is financed entirely by voluntary contributions from governments, companies and private individuals, is less than 25 per cent funded for the $81 million relief operation that lies ahead.

“Additional contributions are urgently needed,” says WFP Representative for Malawi Coco Ushiyama.

WFP also said a swift response is imperative to save children’s lives and prevent worsening undernutrition, particularly stunting among children, which limits cognitive development, and has far-reaching effects on health and productivity over a lifetime.

“A recent Cost of Hunger in Africa report for Malawi estimated that stunting, which at 42 percent is among the highest in the region, costs the nation nearly $600 million annually,” the agency said.

“The WFP announcement comes a day after an appeal to the international humanitarian community made by the President of Malawi Peter Mutharika at the launch of the National Food Insecurity Response Plan on Monday.

Arab world fumes at Gaza hospital explosion as Biden scorned by Middle Eastern friends

0

Some Arab countries that are usually friendly to the United States were not very receptive to President Joe Biden and his diplomats when they traveled to the Middle East to try and stop the conflict between Israel and Hamas from spreading to other countries.

Jordan, Egypt, and the Palestinian Authority decided not to meet with Biden just a day before they were supposed to have a meeting together in the city of Amman, Jordan. The cancellation happened after a big explosion at a hospital in Gaza called Al-Ahli Baptist. It was said that this explosion caused the death of many Palestinians. Palestinian officials said Israel caused the explosion in the hospital, but Israeli officials said it happened because an Islamic Jihad rocket went off accidentally.

“The meeting cannot end the war, which is our goal,” said Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in an interview with Al Jazeera on Wednesday. He referred to the explosion at the hospital as a war crime. “So, we chose not to have it,” he said.

Biden came to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. He met with Benjamin Netanyahu, who is the Prime Minister of Israel, and also with some people from the Israeli war cabinet. The president promised to support Israel and told Netanyahu that the explosion at the hospital seems like it was caused by someone else, not Israel. The National Security Council said on Wednesday that the government currently thinks that Israel is not responsible for the blast.

CNN is unable to confirm on its own what caused the explosion and how many people were hurt.

Arab leaders are worried and upset because the United States is heavily supporting Israel in the war. They are now trying to distance themselves from the Biden administration because people in the Arab countries are getting angrier at Israel. More than 3,478 people have died in Gaza since the attack on Israel by Hamas. The attack in Israel caused the deaths of at least 1,400 people.

After the explosion in the hospital was reported on Tuesday, people in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Iran, and Turkey, as well as in Ramallah in the West Bank, started protesting against Israel.

Arab leaders might be cautious about protests happening in their own countries as they see constant coverage of the Gaza war on Arabic news channels, including distressing images of Palestinians who have died. Protests in Jordan are more likely to happen because many of its people have Palestinian roots.

Egypt announced that it will mourn the victims of the Gaza hospital for three days.

Abdul Khaleq Abdulla, a commentator from the United Arab Emirates, who knows about official opinions, said that Biden has shown a unique emotional connection to Israel, unlike any past US president. Arab countries are very surprised and unhappy that Biden is not criticizing Israel or stopping the violence.

“He told CNN that people now believe he is equally responsible for the crime against Palestinians. Arab countries are now avoiding him and not giving him attention. ”

Egypt and Jordan, countries next to Israel and the Palestinian territories, are against a plan by the US to create a safe path for Palestinians escaping Gaza into Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, which is next to Gaza.

Jordan’s King Abdullah said on Tuesday that it is not acceptable for Palestinians to be forced to leave their homes and move to Jordan or Egypt. He also made it clear that neither Jordan nor Egypt will allow refugees from Gaza to come into their countries. He said that suggesting that the two countries should accept Gazan refugees is a plan “by some people who always do this to cause problems on the ground. ” This suggests that the refugees may not be allowed to go back to their homes.

The proposal from the US has made people in the Arab world very angry. The media in the Arab world believes that the suggestion would benefit Israel by removing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and possibly even taking control of it again. This would leave the Palestinians without homes and with no chance of returning. Israel controlled Gaza from 1967 to 2005 and moved Jewish people to live there during that time.

Egyptian newspapers have strongly criticized the idea of forcing Palestinians to leave their homes. They believe that this would be a devastating event similar to the 1948 Nakba, which resulted in around 700,000 Palestinians being forced to flee or leave their homes during the Arab-Israeli war that led to the establishment of Israel. Many people living in Gaza were forced to leave their homes and became refugees because their families originally came from parts of Israel.

During a press conference, the Egyptian President strongly expressed his opinion that Israel, not Egypt, should be responsible for accepting Palestinian refugees.

Sisi said that if Israel has a plan to force out Gazans, they can move them to the Naqab desert in Israel until Israel finishes their operation to destroy the resistance groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza.

He said that if people from Gaza go to Sinai, it could become a place for people trying to harm Israel. This could make Israel attack Egypt.

Timothy Kaldas, who works at a policy institute in Washington, DC, said that Arab leaders don’t want to appear like they are helping in removing people from Gaza.

Sisi is trying very hard to put some distance between himself and his Western partners on this matter. He wants to protect himself from the possibility of facing a lot of public criticism and anger.

Sisi said this after his foreign minister, Sameh Shoukry, talked about how Europe and the US worry about many refugees coming in, and Egypt feels the same way.

Egypt is already home to nine million refugees. Should we expect them to welcome another one or two million people. That’s what Shoukry, an Egyptian official, asked during an interview with CNN on Tuesday. He said he didn’t know why the Palestinians were being moved, and he thought it might be on purpose.

Kaldas said that Western governments, who have become friends with Arab rulers, often see it as an advantage to ignore what the general public thinks. He said it might not be true, especially at this time.

Kaldas said that even in autocracies, the people living there still have their own thoughts, feelings, and limits which should be recognized. “And this is definitely something that has made everyone in Egypt very angry. ”

Chamisa Announces Mass Protests Dates

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has announced plans to roll out countrywide protests beginning Monday against the recall of its Members of Parliament (MPs) and councillors.

A CCC member claiming to be the party’s interim secretary-general based in Bulawayo, Sengezo Tshabangu, recalled 15 opposition MPs and 17 councillors, claiming they had ceased to be members of the opposition movement.

The CCC has claimed that Zanu PF is sponsoring Tshabangu to force by-elections to enable the ruling party to get a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly and further tamper with the national Constitution.

Zanu PF failed to garner an outright two-thirds majority in the August 23 and 24 elections after getting 176 seats against CCC’s 103.
Yesterday, CCC interim spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi said the party has been left with no option but to take to the streets, starting with Bulawayo, where most MPs were recalled.

“We are escalating our game. If they do not attend to the issues that we have put before them, surely we are going to take other steps,” he said.

“We have an option of going for peaceful protests and we have said that Mr (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa, the sooner you engage, the better for you. He should expect more massive protests coming and he should be prepared.”
CCC leader Nelson Chamisa last week wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, calling for the reinstatement of his legislators.

Chamisa also announced a partial pullout of his MPs and councillors in protest over the recalls before giving government a 14-day ultimatum to reinstate his officials.

The opposition believes that its members have been unfairly targeted and unjustly removed from their positions.
In Bulawayo, the protests are going to be held under the banner “Together We Rise”.
Addressing a Press conference in Harare yesterday, CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba said there was no going back on the protests.

“The issue of stolen elections is a Zimbabwean issue, so Zimbabweans across the country have the right to protest,” he said.
“Zanu PF has been doing these shenanigans to embarrass us because we did not attend the opening of Parliament.
“We have a law for Zanu PF and a law for the rest of us. We protest by disengaging from all Parliament and council business.”
The CCC has also approached the High Court challenging the recalls.

On Tuesday, High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi set November 2 as the hearing date for the matter where the CCC is seeking to reverse Mudenda’s announcement of the recalls.

Mutevedzi ordered the respondents to file their opposing affidavit by close of day today while the applicants will submit their response to the opposing affidavit on Monday. Newsday

Julius Malema loses bid to have his gun charges dismissed by SA court

South African opposition leader Julius Malema and his co-accused Adriaan Snyman have failed in their bid to have charges related to the violation of the Firearms Act withdrawn against them.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader allegedly fired a gun in public in 2018 which was allegedly handed over to him by his bodyguard Mr Snyman.

The two had pleaded not guilty to all six charges levelled against them.

Malema and Snyman, appeared in the East London Magistrates Court on Thursday morning hoping to have the matter thrown out of court due to insufficient evidence.

Malema’s legal team previously brought an application to have the case dismissed due to “insufficient evidence.”

In delivering judgment on the application, Magistrate Twanet Olivier said Malema’s argument that the gun was a prop, or movie gun, did not hold any weight in the case thus far.

“The mere say so that it was a movie gun does not make it so… it’s not evidence, the mere say so. In the light of the evidence that’s been presented so far, the application of discharge in terms of Section 174 of Act 51 of 1977 is not granted.”

Mr Malema addressed his supporters outside court in East London following the judgement and accused the judge of being biased.

He was accompanied by the EFF leaders in all nine provinces including EFF’s former National Chairperson, Advocate Dali Mpofu and Commissar Godrich Gardee.

“I am not scared of prison, when you are a revolutionary prison is your nickname… No racist Magistrate can stop me from executing that which I stand for. No small boy of a prosecutor can persecute me and jail me for what I stand for.

Malema said they asked to postpone the case to July next year because they did not want to be held up before elections while other politicians were busy campaigning.

He further fired shots at Magistrate Olivier calling her an “incompetent magistrate who comes late to court, who can’t get her papers in order, who can’t read her own judgement, who adjourns the court during judgement to go backseat and receive Pravin Gordhan’s call and Ramaphosa’s call and when she comes back to give her judgement she is shaking like hell because it is a sponsored judgement.”

The trial has been postponed to 15 July and is expected to sit for two days.

Jada Pinkett Smith’s Revelations Leave Rick Ross Rethinking Marriage

0

Jada Pinkett Smith has been promoting her new book Worthy as of late, and has shared a great deal about her relationship with Will Smith in the process. The actress and talk show host revealed that the two of them have actually been separated for the past six years, though they chose to hold off on an official divorce. Due to this, she said she was “shocked” that he called her his “wife” after slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. She also called 2Pac her “soulmate,” fueling longtime rumors that she had romantic feelings for the late rapper.

Amid the countless headlines Jada has made surrounding her relationship with Will, Rick Ross has taken to Instagram to weigh in. According to him, the whole debacle has him reconsidering the idea of marriage. He specifically referenced her claim that she and Will decided against a prenup ahead of their 1997 marriage.

Rick Ross On Jada Pinkett Smith’s Relationship Claims

Abuse Of State Powers And Emerging Dictatorial Tendencies By The New Dawn Administration- Archbishop Mpundu

ABUSE OF STATE POWERS AND EMERGING DICTATORIAL TENDENCIES BY THE NEW DAWN ADMINISTRATION.

By Emeritus Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu

19th October 2023.

We write this statement in light of the emerging authoritarian tendencies by the New Dawn government in which state institutions are now being abused despite the assurances from the Executive arm of government.

Here we attempt to highlight just a few examples;

Signed; Emeritus Archbishop Archbishop Telesphore G. Mpundu

Hichilema Must Resign If He Is Not Willing To Officiate National Day Of Prayer- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

0

HICHILEMA MUST RESIGN

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

President Hichilema must resign if he is not willing to officiate and grace state functions but chooses to abscond his duties.

Last year he opted to go for a Ward by-elections in Lupososhi instead of attending to the official commemoration of the Day of National Prayer, Fasting, Reconciliation and Repentance.

What a Christian thing to do!

On Wednesday, he was conspicuously absent without official explanation.

It is clear that he holds this day with utmost contempt as seen by his previous comments on the matter.

Further to compare this day to Christmas celebrations is misguided as this day was declared in furtherance of the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation. Christmas is not constitutional! The Christian Declaration is.

Clayson Hamasaka’s statement confirms what everyone has suspected to be the reason of the Head of State’s absence at this key event in the spiritual life of this country.

I agree with one preacher responding to a prayer point that State House needs prayers!

Statement from state house :

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA IS NOT OBLIDGED TO BE AT OFFICIAL VENUE OF CELEBRATIONS OF NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER EVENT

We have noted insinuations on why the Republican President was not at the designated place during the National Day of Prayer, Fasting and Reconciliation

We hold the view that this day is meant to be observed by all Christians, wherever they are as it is not constitutionally designed or obligated for a sitting Head of State to be in physical attendance at a particular place like is the case with the opening of National Assembly.

The President observed this day with his family members and friends in a manner similar to how Christians around the world observe the important day of Christmas, all while leaving it as a matter of personal conviction with God.

He respects the significance of this day and that is why he has not abolished it from the holiday calendar despite having powers to do so. He, however believes it should not be used as a barometer to gauge a citizen’s personal relationship with God.

In the book of Matthew 6:1-8, Jesus expressed disapproval of those turning personal faith into a public show and called them out.

The President applauds all Christian brothers and sisters who were driven by their personal conviction to attend this important day and those that chose to observe in their homes and other places.

It’s also important not to forget the historical background on the declaration of this day in 2015 when it was used to label, malign, and undermine people like President Hakainde Hichilema who were seeking public office.

Despite the above, President Hichilema never abolished the day but upheld it to allow Christians to observe it as a public holiday dedicated to worship.

We remember how enthusiastic some individuals were about observing this day while at the same time gassing citizens, looting public resources, brutalising citizens, promoting division among citizens, among other negative vices.

CLEAR THE AIR ON THE SUPPLY OF MEALIE MEAL CONTAINING GMOs, HON KAFWAYA TELLS GOVT

CLEAR THE AIR ON THE SUPPLY OF MEALIE MEAL CONTAINING GMOs, HON KAFWAYA TELLS GOVT.

…………as he lays bare alleged secret recruitment in certain institutions

Lusaka…………Thursday, October 19, 2023 [Smart Eagles]

The Patriotic Front Committee on Finance and National Planning says Government must clear the air on the revelations that ZNS is importing 10 Million Metric Tonnes of Maize from South Africa and flooding it in ShopRite outlets.

Chairperson for the Committee Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya said what is of concern is that the Maize is suspected to have GMOs.

He said this during a media briefing in Lusaka today.

Hon Kafwaya was flanked by Milanzi MP Melisiana Phiri and the lawmakers from Chinsali and Mufulira Central.

“Government must come out clean and tell the people whether they have entered into a contract to import 10 million metric tonnes from South Africa which could be GMOs. The information is not just coming in isolation,” Hon Kafwaya said.

And Hon Kafwaya has described as a poor decision to offer Cheap mealie meal only in Shoprite outlets.

He said most people in the rural areas have no access to Shoprite stores.

Meanwhile, Hon Kafwaya said information has emerged that Government is refusing to pay the Auditors it had illegally contracted because it wants certain information to be removed from the audits.

He said Government is demanding for the removal of certain information from the Audit reports because it is uncomfortable that the issue of FISP and the contracts should not be in the Audit findings.

“You contract an illegal audit, you refuse to pay them because they have included information you don’t want. Just pay them and let the information the auditors have put in the illegal audit reports. We told you Ministry of Finance have got no mandate to hire auditors…. ensure that you pay those people for the illegal audit.
The Auditor Geneal says in page 7 that in his profession opinion, he did not see any key audit matters. As we speak over 300 civil servants are drawing salaries but are not working. This is a period where there are fertilizer cancellations of tender. This is a year when there has been illegal mining at KCM, This is the year when there was a strong conversation of Faith Musonda and the missing 65 million…,” he said.

Hon Kafwaya has also exposed the alleged recruitment of staff outside the public knowledge in certain institutions.

He said the illegality is conducted in the night and that the recruited individuals are taken in turns for training.

Speaking at the same event, Committee Secretary Hon Golden Mwila urged the Ministry of Finance to go back to the incentives that they have given to the mining sector in order to Fund the multi facility economic zones.

He says this is because Copper production has dropped from 880,000 Mt since 2021 to 650,000 Mt of production in light of the incentives.

“Why should the Minister be crying that he doesn’t have the money but yet he is seeing the money go down the drain by giving unjustified incentives to the mines. The mineral royalty is one such measure that must be revised. The measure is costing the treasury of about 3.2 billion kwacha from last year. Further to that, through the changes in the tax regime for mineral royalty, another 2.8 billion kwacha this year will be lost. This gives a minimum of 6 billion that the country is losing through incentives to the mines,” he said.

And Chinsali Member of Parliament Hon Kalalwe Mukosa said the proposal to introduce a levy of about K0.8 and K1.8 on persons to person mobile money transactions in 2024 must be abandoned.

He said the proposal is very unfair on the part of poor people.

Hon Mukosa said Government must look to the Mining sector to get full taxes as opposed to choking the poor Zambians.

TRIBALISM OF THE NAKED EMPEROR- Fred M’membe

TRIBALISM OF THE NAKED EMPEROR

I listened attentively to historian Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa’s interview on Hot FM. Some of the things he said I had pointed them out before – especially the issue of tribally inclined appointments under Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s government.

Following Dr Sishuwa’s interview there was a phone call to Hot FM from Mr Hichilema’s media aide complaining about the programme. This was followed by a letter from the so called Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) that has never been independent from its inception.

Like in the story of the naked emperor, it seems the nakedness, iniquities of what Mr Hichilema says or does should never be exposed, pointed out and criticised.

We have no doubt that an independent audit of Mr Hichilema’s appointments will certainly confirm tribalism in his imperial majesty’s appointments.

It seems the tribalism that could be pointed out, criticised and was unacceptable in the previous regime shouldn’t be exposed, pointed out and criticised under this imperial majesty’s reign.

Tribal inclined appointments have certainly incomparably increased under Mr Hichilema and he will have serious difficulties dismissing changes of tribalism. Everywhere one turns and looks tribalism is glaring. But no one should call it out, point it out because it will offend his imperial majesty.

What type of hypocrisy, double standards is this?

It reminds us of Lord Acton”s letter to Bishop Creighton arguing that the same moral standards should be applied to all men, political and religious leaders included, especially since “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” (1887).

Lord Acton wrote to Bishop Creighton in a series of letters concerning the moral problem of writing history about the Inquisition. Acton believed that the same moral standards should be applied to all men, political and religious leaders included, especially since, in his famous phrase, “power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely”:

“I cannot accept your canon that we are to judge Pope and King unlike other men, with a favourable presumption that they did no wrong. If there is any presumption it is the other way against holders of power, increasing as the power increases. Historic responsibility has to make up for the want of legal responsibility. Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority: still more when you superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it. That is the point at which the negation of Catholicism and the negation of Liberalism meet and keep high festival, and the end learns to justify the means. You would hang a man of no position, like Ravaillac; but if what one hears is true, then Elizabeth asked the gaoler to murder Mary, and William III ordered his Scots minister to extirpate a clan. Here are the greater names coupled with the greater crimes. You would spare these criminals, for some mysterious reason. I would hang them, higher than Haman, for reasons of quite obvious justice; still more, still higher, for the sake of historical science.”

There is much more to these letters than just the occurrence of Acton’s most famous phrase that “power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” The context is the question of how religious historians should handle the corrupt and even criminal behaviour of many Popes, and the appalling treatment of dissidents and heretics during the Inquisition. This leads Acton to talk about the universal nature of moral principles, the requirement for historians to use such principles in the assessment of historical figures, the tendency of these powerful historical figures to be “bad men”, and that it was the function of historians to “hang them” (whether he meant this literally of metaphorically is not clear). In the third letter to Creighton, Acton quotes with some approval a conversation he had with John Bright, one of the leaders of the Anti-Corn Law League, who stated to him that “If the people knew what sort of men statesmen were, they would rise and hang the whole lot of them.”

It’s very clear to us that the exercise of power must be a constant practice of self limitation and modesty.

Sunday Sinyangwe accuses Lungu of holding back country’s blessing, prosperity

FORMER president Edgar Lungu was yesterday left shell-shocked when a pentecostal pastor whose church he had gone to observe the National Day of Prayer and Fasting accused him of holding back the country’s blessings and prosperity.

In furthering his legacy of prayer and keeping his universal membership to all churches intact, Lungu drove a long distance from Lusaka’s Ibex Hill to Garden House to observe the holy day at
Pastor Sunday Sinyangwe’s Shalom Embassy Ministries International.

Everything seemed to have been going well until Pastor Sinyangwe digressed from the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance & Reconciliation theme of “Fostering Zambia’s Progress Through Prayer, Unity, and Diligence” and started accusing the former Head of State being responsible for his stagnation.

After summoning Lungu to the front of the church, Sinyangwe declared that his blessings and prosperty were tied to the former Head of State.

The pastor who said he was speaking on behalf of the youths asked the former Head of State to “release us”.

“We just want you to release us, whatever happened in the stadium that day, whatever you have said, we just want you to say a word, whatever the the Lord will tell you, maybe just a Prayer over the youths and over the Zambians,” he said.

“We need the mercies of God for all the abuse and things we have been throwing at you,” he added.

“Our blessings are tied to you, our prosperity is tied to the honour we give you…”

In response, Lungu used fatherly wisdom and statesmanship to deny Sinyangwe’s accusation saying God should release the pastor from the perception that he was holding back his grace and favour.

“I hold no grudge against anyone and therefore if there’s any perception that I have held blessings against the Zambians. May God release the Zambians from that perception that I am holding back their favour and grace,” Lungu responded.

“In saying so, I myself, have a very clear conscious, please pray for me so that I can also pray for you,” he added.

The video of the Sinyangwe’s interaction with former Head of State has since gone viral sparking debates.

But Sinyangwe is no stranger to pulpit drama.

Prior to the 2021 elections, Sinyangwe created a social storm when he “prophesied” that Hakainde Hichilema would never become President of Zambia because of his ways.

Hakainde Hichilema went on to be elected Zambia’s seventh President.

UPND Govt You Need To Face The Reality Regarding Food Shortage: Is ZNS Distribution of Mealie Meal Sustainable?- Sikaile Sikaile

By Sikaile C. Sikaile.

UPND GOVERNMENT YOU NEED TO FACE THE REALITY REGARDING FOOD SHORTAGE

Is ZNS Distribution of Mealie Meal Sustainable?

During the late 2021 into 2022 farming season, I advised the UPND government to rethink their agricultural policy and create initiatives encouraging ordinary farmers to venture into white maize production by providing a reasonable price. Although this advice seemed useless at the time, I can now see its impact haunting the government.

First and foremost, the maize issue in Zambia has been a political concern, frequently cited even during campaigns. This is crucial as maize is our staple food, and anyone aspiring for the presidency should explain their plans for securing the nation’s food supply.

In previous years, whenever there was a bumper harvest, us farmers lamented the greed of politicians who imposed low prices on our produce. Farming isn’t as easy as many in the cities think, especially when it comes to producing cheap mealie meal. We farmers go through a lot, and due to the lack of motivation from successive governments, farmers have been abandoning maize cultivation. This situation worsens when the cost of production becomes unbearable like it is now. Some might argue that the government provides seed packs for a single hectare, but many commercial or medium-scale farmers like us have to buy fertilizer on our own. Just this year my estimated number of bags for Fertilizer is 200 both D and urea. Do your mates and see how much the government gives.

As we approach the upcoming farming season, the UPND government needs to assure us farmers that even in the case of a bumper harvest, they will buy our maize for not less than K450 per 50kg. The government should also plan and communicate how they will manage the surplus, as farmers are often left vulnerable and exploited by millers and opportunistic buyers. The worst mistake the UPND government could make is purchasing maize for less than K450 next farming season or leave us farmers in the hands briefcase buyers. This would demoralize farmers and potentially lead to a maize shortage, causing more food insecurity.

As far as I’m concerned, the UPND government is comprised of educated individuals, and I’m certain they understand that the K280 price offered to us farmers this year doesn’t cover the production costs. It is a huge loss if we consider the efforts and time in production.

From my analysis, many people will grow maize this year, but they might be disappointed with the prices. Therefore, if you are a farmer considering this venture, explore alternative approaches to adding value to your maize in case the government decides to reduce or maintain the price at K280 per 50kg after the bumper harvest.

Currently, the government is attempting to help the situation by distributing through ZNS, but this isn’t a sustainable solution. We cannot simply sit back and believe we are genuinely assisting our citizens. What’s the solution? The president and his team should guarantee us farmers that a fair price, reflecting the actual production cost, will be implemented sooner or later. All we need is the assurance of a fair return for our increased production. It wouldn’t be a loss on the government even giving us at K550 per 50kg.

Why is the UPND government struggling in this sector?

There is a lack of innovation and an unwillingness to consider diverse perspectives that could boost production. I personally wrote to the ministers of agriculture and finance about how they could support passionate farmers with equipment to maximize production. For instance, if the government were to provide me with all the necessary equipment or financial support and specify a maize price, even if my profit margin is 20% until I repay the loan, I would be content. But the UPND government is depending on incompetent institutions like CEEC where for you to get a loan there are two things involved either you bribe or knows someone or someone politically connected pushes them. We cannot expect progress with such approach as a nation. The food shortage is a policy issue, and once the government listens to the perspectives of us farmers, it can be resolved. Like I always say I don’t charge for advice they’re free for those who want them.

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba On PF MP Davison Mungandu

MWAMBA ON MUNGANDU

Thursday, 19th October 2023

Patriotic Front Member of the Central Committee and Chairperson of Information and Publicity, Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba has responded to Chama South MP, Davison Mungandu, who asserted that current economic and social problems facing the country would have persisted even if PF were still in power.

Media Statement

We have noted a media statement attributed to Chama South MP, Hon. Davison Mung’andu published in the News Diggers today.

The argument presented by Hon. Davison Mungandu MP is highly flawed and requires immediate response and correction.

UPND POLICIES

The UPND Government is pursuing liberal policies that are pro-foreign investors and pro-multinational corporations and will therefore yield little or no benefits for the people of Zambia.

ECONOMIC REVOVERY PLAN

The Patriotic Front Government launched an Economic Recovery Plan in December 2020.

The Economic Recovery Programme (ERP) 2020-2023 brought together a set of necessary multi-sectoral policies and interventions that were aimed at restoring and building-back-better the economy in order to deliver on the national priorities.

We urge Hon. Mungandu and others to familiarize themselves with the proposed solutions outlined in the document.

ON DEBT

Following a joint World Bank-IMF and Zambia Debt Sustainability Analysis conducted in 2019, it was established that increased borrowing by the Zambian Government to finance ambitious large capital expenditure had led to a sharp increase in external debt and a shift in the creditor composition from traditional creditors such as IMF, World Bank and AfDB to commercial lenders and the People’s Republic of China.

It was agreed by both parties looking at domestic revenue so far available, that the risk of debt distress for the country was high.

Therefore, Government began the process of debt management and restructuring of the $11billion foreign debt.

It halted further contraction of new loans and suspended some financed projects that were in the pipeline.

After a public tender process, Lazard Freres, a French investment bank, was hired on a $5m contract, to advise and help on the country’s debt restructure.

LAZARD was hired to resolve the foreign debt with commercial, multilateral, and private lenders while Government engaged in bilateral discussions with the People’s Republic of China for its debt with China.

GOOD TIDINGS BY 2021

The Patriotic Front Government had accumulated maize grain strategic reserves under the Food Reserve Agency(FRA) of 1.5 million metric tonnes and a harvest of 3.2 million metric tonnes in 2021-2022 harvest season.

Further, the crippling loadshedding was literally behind us as national power generation capacity was increased from 1,600 megawatts to 3,450 megawatts by 2020. National electricity consumption is only around 2,200 mega watts.

Further tax revenue from the mines had steadily increased following the policy change of making mineral royalty tax non-deductible in 2019.

Zambia was now earning an average of $1.1 billion in 2020 in tax revenues from the mining sector and a similar amount in 2021 through to 2022.

ZCCM-IH in collaboration with Bank of Zambia were now buying gold from artisanal miners to help formalise the sector and help form part of the Central Bank’s Reserves.

ZCCM-IH was also tasked to begin mining at Kasenseli Gold, and a special purpose vehicle company was formed for the gold mine finds that were being discovered everyday across the country.

Further, the concentrated and decade-old public investment done in building roads, bridges, clinics, hospitals, dams, airports, and upgrading or building power generation stations, provided a strong base for national development.

Further, the measures implemented in the mining, agriculture, and energy sectors would have provided a better Zambia than now being experienced.

The prices of essential foodstuffs and foods were far fairer than now where the inflation rate is said be at 12%.

PF’s crimes to why it lost elections were but peripheral; hooliganism, cadreisms, use of the Police, arrogance, etc and the failure to attend to those peripheral issues established a negative perception against the Patriotic Front by citizens and affected the outcome of the general elections.

PF will probably be a government that will be remembered as a party that lost elections and power, NOT because it didn’t work or deliver public service, BUT because it neglected to attend to peripheral issues like political violence and cadreism

Paul Kabuswe Must Explain this new Deal: Jubille Metals have been awarded a contract to process the Mopani Slag- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Paul Kabuswe Must Explain this new Deal

International reports show that Jubille Metals have been awarded a contract to process the Mopani Slags.

Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, Hon. Paul Kabuswe must explain.

Jubilee Metals have already got the Kabwe Slags and have done literally nothing but pollute Kabwe even more with their archaic ways of processing the slag.

Furthermore, they have not undertaken any CSR duties in Kabwe. How then can Government consider them for more sites, especially for Mopani when all they do is just extract minerals from our mines without adding any value to our communities. This is not right. Our mines ought to benefit the people not these useless and failed investors who don’t care about the people.

Below is the full story

Jubilee Metals in JV with Mopani Copper Mines to produce critical minerals

Producers team up to process slag as Zambia targets higher copper output

17 OCTOBER 2023

Metals processing group Jubilee Metals has partnered with struggling Zambia’s Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) in a project seeking to produce copper and cobalt from retreating mining waste.

The joint venture (JV) comes at a critical time for the loss-making state-owned MCM, which is looking for a strategic investor.Sibanye-Stillwater is among the bidders vying for the copper assets, which are seen as critical to the green economy as the world transitions from environmentally damaging fossil fuels.

A successful bidder could be announced any time this month after a delay in finalising the adjudication process.

For London and JSE-listed Jubilee, the JV gives it an opportunity to showcase its ability to retreat waste materials and turn them into assets.

Jubilee and MCM will appoint a special purpose vehicle to facilitate the JV for processing the slag at the MCM facility in Mufulira.

Its mandate could also be expanded to incorporate the treatment of material from tailing dumps and oxide ore sourced from small-scale miners.

The overarching strategy is to extract value from MCM plants under care and maintenance.

Under the targeted JV, Jubilee is exclusively appointed to design, implement and operate the new processing facility with the first right to fund the implementation of the project in collaboration with MCM.

The supervisory board made up representatives from both companies will also be formed to oversee the JV

ZAMBIA, THE EPITOME OF THE CHINA-AFRICA FRIENDSHIP – Communist Party of China(CPC)

ZAMBIA, THE EPITOME OF THE CHINA-AFRICA FRIENDSHIP – CPC

October 18th, 2023

BEIJING – Wang Heming, Director General of the Bureau of Sub-Saharan African Affairs at the International Department of the Communist Party of China says Zambia stands at the core of the China-Africa relationship.

Mr. Heming further attributed the success of China’s CPC to hard work and unwavering loyalty among its 96 million members in a country of 1.4 billion people.

He stressed that the CPC adheres to a people-centered philosophy, focusing on improving people’s lives, eradicating poverty, and providing security as he highlighted on the need for the UPND to strengthen its governance and membership training scope.

The CPC senior official made the remarks during a meeting between the UPND delegation led by party Treasurer General Watson Lumba and the International Department of the CPC today in Beijing, China.

And Mr Lumba who in his remarks acknowledged the strength of the Zambia-China relationship espoused through projects such as TAZARA and TAZAMA at the time the country had its own socio-economic challenges.

Mr. Lumba commended China for assisting Zambia during its difficult periods such as the liberation wars, infrastructure development and during the pandemic even at the cost of its own people.

UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa who is also part of the delegation at the invitation of the CPC said his party was in that country with a view to adopting some of the best practices in governance and economic diplomacy from the CPC.

The visit to Beijing and other cities at the invitation of the Chinese ruling party aims to exchange ideas on governance, economic empowerment, membership growth, and political party sustainability.

The delegation to China comprises senior party officials drawn from the Secretariat, Mobilisation, Women, Media, Members of Parliament, Provincial Chairpersons and Provincial Ministers.

The CPC has been China’s ruling party since 1949, making it the world’s longest ruling party as it celebrates its 74th year in power and has led to China’s most prosperous period with the country now standing as world’s 2nd strongest economy.

The Zambia – China diplomatic ties stretch back to 1964 making Zambia the first post colonial country in the SADC to tie such friendship.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is next year expected in Zambia as part of the celebrations to mark 60 years of unbroken friendship between the two countries.

The delegation is expected back in the country on Wednesday October 25th, 2023

WE LIVE BY HOPE AND NOT BY CAMPAIGN PROMISES

Authored By Mupishi Jones

A normal human being lives by hope, hoping tomorrow will be better.Thats what keeps us going.Try to lose hope in life or try to deal with a person who has completely lost hope in life and see what happens.A human being devoid of hope is a dangerous person. He is capable of facing and challenging whatever comes….hell or heaven without analysing the consequences.

Therefore,a good leader is one who inspires hope in his people. He may not fulfill all of his campaign promises at once but if he inspires hope in his people that eventually all shall be well, then that’s my leader. He differs with that kind of a leader who steps in and with an unexplained magic wand…. bang…he fulfills all his campaign promises at once.Yes, his people will be happy but it’ll leave alot of unanswered questions into their minds… how has he managed, where has he gotten the resources to sort out all his campaign promises at once? Is his source of resources sustainable? That was the “Tantameni” syndrome of the previous regime, fulfilling their campaign promises without explaining the source.Despite all the “Tantameni” ,they still proceeded to lose elections in an unprecedented embarrassing manner.Their “Tantameni” political strategy was not inspiring any hope for the future of their citizens.

Today we have a number of political party leaders lining themselves up as candidates for the presidency of this country, the question is,who inspires hope! We know each one of them because we have lived with them.

Do we see any hope in many of these candidates apart from bitterness? Most of them their desire is driven by hate, revenge and bitterness, others “bali tumpafye”.

Driven by bitterness as a common denominator, they’ve assembled themselves under the umbrella of alliance. This is despite all of them having different ideological beliefs and it’s clear that what is keeping them together for now is their bitterness.

This is where President Hakainde Hichilema stands out.His words, actions, body language inspires hope for the future of this country.Being a failable human being by creation,he may make errors of judgement here and there but one can tell that those errors are genuine and not calculate to deceive his people. We have witnessed such calculated errors before…failure to stop political hooliganism, justifying outrageous government contract sum prices, raising armies of partisan political cadres going round brutalising citizens and many more ,all calculated to either circumvent the law or arrogantly to deceive the citizens.President Hakainde Hichilema’s passion to uplift the welfare of his people is visible.

No doubt the price of mealie meal, fuel and the exchange rate is causing a lot of pain in many citizens and despite his political rivals repeatedly shouting from the mountain tops, citizens still vote for President Hakainde Hichilema, why? the man inspires hope!
Those of us who follow his moves closely,we have every confidence and hope that this country is headed for greatness,
I submit

FGM: Three-year-old British girl mutilated in Kenya causes outrage

0

A woman appeared in court for allegedly giving a three-year-old British girl to someone who would perform female genital mutilation (FGM) on her in Kenya.

Amina Noor, who is 39 years old, has been accused of helping someone from outside of the UK to harm a girl’s genitalia in 2006.

The supposed crime became known when the person who reported it, who is now 21 years old, told her English teacher at school when she was 16.

Ms Noor, who lives in Harrow, which is in the north-west part of London, says she did not do what she is being accused of.

At the beginning of the trial, prosecutor Deanna Heer KC informed the court that when they questioned Ms. Noor about what had happened, she explained that the procedure included giving an injection and the girl was happy and able to freely move and play afterwards.

But in 2019, when the person who made the complaint was checked, it was found that her clitoris had been completely taken away, according to Ms.

During the court session, it was explained that Ms Noor initially told the story of going to a “clinic” with another woman. In that clinic, a girl was taken to a room for a certain procedure.

The person on trial said that she was asked to come inside, but she didn’t because she felt frightened and anxious.

The jurors were informed that Ms. Noor said the girl was silent, cried all night, and said she was in pain.

‘Supported and helped’

During a later interview with the police, Ms Noor said that nobody had threatened her before the FGM was done to her.

When the defendant was asked if she ever didn’t want the FGM to happen, she said that she had thought about it but ultimately went ahead with it.

Ms Noor said that the things done to the girl were called “Sunnah” in Arabic, which means “tradition” or “way”. She also said that this practice had been happening for a long time because of cultural reasons.

The person in charge of proving the crime in court said that Ms. Noor supported and helped in the offense. They also questioned her statement that she only thought the girl would be slightly hurt to get some blood.

Ms Heer said in court that the defendant talked about the exact type of female genital mutilation before taking the girl to the clinic.

She did not ask if the people were doctors or if they were qualified to do their job.

She didn’t ask the Kenyan lady what would happen during the procedure. After the event, she didn’t look at the girl’s wound and said she didn’t seem to be hurting.

Ms Heer then said, “Considering the harm that was done to the girl, can we really believe that. Or is the defendant trying to downplay her own involvement. ”

Ms Heer told the court that there was no argument about the fact that the girl had undergone FGM (female genital mutilation) outside of the UK by a woman from Kenya, and it was also not disputed that the girl was a citizen of the UK.

The jurors learned that Ms Noor was born in Somalia and went to Kenya when she was eight because of the war in her country. She then came to the UK when she was 16 and became a British citizen.

The trial is still going on.

Putin praised for making it to Xi global summit

0

Russian leader Vladimir Putin received a warm welcome at a worldwide meeting in Beijing, highlighting the growing friendship between China and Russia.

China’s President Xi Jinping organized a meeting to mark the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), his significant foreign and economic plan.

Mr Putin was considered the most important guest among leaders and officials from over 130 countries.

He has hardly ever left his country since he invaded Ukraine in February of last year.

He is not only losing support from other countries, but he has also been ordered to be arrested by the International Criminal Court for supposed war crimes in Ukraine.

It is very unlikely that Mr. Putin will be arrested in China because China is not part of the ICC. He and Mr Xi are very close friends. The Chinese leader said they have a very strong friendship before the war started.

On Wednesday, the events started with a special ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi and Mr. Putin walked into the hall side by side ahead of other leaders from different countries.

Mr Putin was also in the front and center position of the group photo, standing beside the Chinese president. After Mr Xi, he was the second person to speak. They later had a meeting that lasted for three hours.

Before Russia started its war on Ukraine, Mr. Putin used to have the most important position in previous Belt and Road summits.

China has been criticized by Western countries for supporting Russia and at the same time trying to show support for Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Mr. Putin was eager to repay the kindness. In his speech, he promised to help Mr. Xi’s big BRI project because it aligns with Russian ideas. He also praised our Chinese friends for their accomplishments.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a project where China has spent about one trillion dollars on investment and building projects globally.

He spoke to a group of representatives from developing countries, mainly from the Global South. He mentioned that Russia, China, and most countries around the world want to work together and make progress in their economy.

Mr Putin is visiting at a time when people are worried that China and Russia are joining forces to compete with the Western countries.

Both countries have spoken out against the domination of the US and want a world where power is shared among multiple countries.

China released two white papers before the BRI’s anniversary. These papers present the BRI as the foundation of a new world order which China sees as fairer and more welcoming to everyone.

In his speech filled with references to the Silk Road and interesting sayings, Mr. Xi kept emphasizing this point. He said the BRI shows progress and is the right way to go, and it will be looked upon favorably in the future.

He strongly criticized “fighting over beliefs, competing for power among nations, and forming alliances for political gain,” imposing sanctions without consensus, and separating supply chains. Beijing often complains about Washington for leading what it believes is an unfair type of global development.

On the other hand, the BRI has promoted cooperation that benefits everyone involved, where everyone contributes and makes things better.

Mr Xi also explained an eight-point plan for advancing the BRI. This includes supporting smaller projects, environmentally friendly development, and fostering honesty and trust.

The BRI has received praise for helping many countries grow, but people have also criticized it for causing debt problems, harming the environment, and encouraging corruption and wasteful projects.

The meeting in Beijing has drawn the attention of many countries, mainly from Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. Other people at the event are Hungary’s leader, Viktor Orban, and officials from the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

Israel claims to have evidence Islamist extremists are responsible for Gaza hospital blast

0

Israel’s military says it has evidence that a group of religious extremists caused a terrible explosion at a hospital in Gaza. It is believed that this explosion resulted in the deaths of approximately 500 individuals.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that the killing at the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital was very bad and unlike anything they had seen before. A lot of women and children were among those who were killed.

This has caused more angry feelings in an area that was already in a bad situation because of Hamas’s violent attack on October 7. This attack led to protests against Israel’s bombing campaign in response.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) are rejecting the claim that they are responsible for the incident. They instead believe that Hamas is trying to hide the truth by making a big media campaign and exaggerating the number of victims.

When President Joe Biden came to the country, he said it doesn’t seem like Israel caused the explosion.

‘From what I’ve seen, it seems like the other team did it, not you,’ he said when he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari informed journalists that the military has confirmed that the explosion was caused by a rocket that malfunctioned and was fired by the Islamic Jihad group.

He said that Hamas shot many rockets towards Israel at 6. 15pm, and then Islamic Jihad shot another 10 rockets at 6. 59pm – which was when the first reports of an explosion at the hospital came in.

According to Hagari, the main parts of the hospital building are still in one piece. The projectile landed in a parking area, causing a big explosion because there was fuel left inside.

He said that the hospital was not hit by any gunfire from the IDF on land, sea, or air. He also mentioned to the reporters that the rocket was probably shot from a cemetery close by.

The person speaking also said that the militants mentioned an unsuccessful Islamic Jihad in their messages that were intercepted. He also said that this is now being used as a way to spread negative ideas about Israel.

Hagari said that it is not possible to know what happened as fast as Hamas claimed they knew. That should have been the first sign of warning for many.

Unlike Hamas, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) quickly started an investigation that was monitored by their top leaders.

This expert review was done using information, systems, and videos from the air. We made sure to double-check everything.

We have proof that the explosion in al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza was caused by a rocket from Islamic Jihad that went off in the wrong way.

The IDF is explaining why Israel is not to blame for the attack on a hospital in Gaza.

One of Benjamin Netanyahu’s top advisers said the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group launched a failed rocket, causing the disaster.

Speaking to Sky News, Mark Regev stated that the statistics are clear. In previous fights, about 33% of the rockets from Islamic Jihad that were aimed at Israel didn’t reach their target and instead landed in Gaza.

Our sources tell us that there was a fire caused by Islamic Jihad near the hospital. It seems that a rocket went wrong and accidentally hit the hospital.

In the recent fighting in 2021, there was a situation where Israel was accused of hitting a target and killing an innocent family.

‘Finally, we were able to show with a video that it was their rocket that was launched and we witnessed the rocket land. ”

Eylon Levy, a spokesperson for the government, told the TV station that they strongly disagree with the numbers presented by Gaza’s health ministry.

He said the country was very doubtful because Hamas quickly announced extremely high numbers after the explosion. He also said that they strongly disagree with those numbers.

Israel is saying that a rocket fired from Gaza hit a hospital in Gaza.
The terror group said that Israel’s accusations were not true.

It means: ‘The claims made by the enemy are not true and have no evidence. ‘

They said Israel told the hospital to leave and a bomb from an Israeli plane caused the explosion.

People came out to march in Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, and the West Bank because Khaled Meshaal, who used to be in charge of Hamas, asked them to protest outside embassies everywhere.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group urged for a day full of strong anger against Israel and President Biden’s visit.

The president visited to try to make the area peaceful and support efforts to help the people in Gaza.

But after the hospital workers stopped working, Jordan decided to not have a meeting with him, the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, and the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Abbas also canceled a meeting with Biden.

Gang boss imprisoned for smuggling thousands into UK

0

A man in Belgium has been given a prison sentence of 11 years for leading a big group involved in smuggling people across the English Channel.

The police think that Hewa Rahimpur, who is 30 years old, was responsible for a group that brought 10,000 individuals to the UK using small boats.

Rahimpur was 23 years old when he came to Britain in 2016 and asked for protection, because he believed he would be mistreated in his country, Iran, as a Kurd.

He was given permission to remain in 2020.

Rahimpur came to the UK and was allowed to stay. He started a barbershop in London with a friend. However, he then used Britain as a hub for a large-scale criminal enterprise.

He was responsible for a group that obtained boats, engines, and life-jackets for people who wanted to cross the water as migrants. They got the material from Turkey and China and moved it to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The boats were taken to the northern coast of France and given to groups of people who wanted to move there and were waiting in Calais and Dunkirk.

The people who migrated, including women and children, were told basic instructions on how to operate the boats to reach Britain, and then started their journey across the Channel.

Some boats were extremely dangerous because they were not built properly and were held together with tape and pieces of wood.

A migration expert named Stef Janssens told the BBC that around 30 to 40 individuals were placed in each boat. Janssens mentioned that the smugglers demonstrate a complete disregard for the value of human life. It’s surprising that there are not more people dying.

It is believed that the gang from Rahimpur was responsible for nearly 10% of people illegally crossing to the UK within a period of 12 to 18 months.

Mr Janssens said that this is the first time a person in a powerful position in a network that uses small boats is being held accountable. He described the trial as a crucial step in combating global groups involved in smuggling people.

He said that this case is directly connected to the 31 people who died in the North Sea.
Mr Janssens witnessed a conversation on WhatsApp between Rahimpur and individuals on his boat who were crossing the Channel. They requested him to contact the police as they were scared for their lives.

In a message, Rahimpur said they needed to continue until they reached the waters of Britain. There, the UK Coast Guard would come and bring them to the UK.

You can understand from this conversation that these people are working really hard because if they don’t, they will earn less money.

UK’s National Crime Agency and Belgian authorities worked together to investigate a situation where some boats were found in the trunk of a car near the border between Belgium and France in October 2021.

The police caught Rahimpur in Ilford, which is in East London, in May 2022. They took away 135 boats, 45 engines, and over 1,200 life jackets.

He was arrested as a result of a joint investigation by police in the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Over 40 people were taken into custody in four different countries in one of the largest law enforcement actions ever.

Rahimpur got a fine of €80,000, but experts think that his 11-year prison sentence is not likely to stop human traffickers from doing their illegal activities in the future.

People who bring people into a country illegally are getting better at what they do, making it harder for the authorities to catch them.

After Rahimpur was arrested, more people have still been coming to the UK on small boats. More than 24,200 people have travelled across the English Channel from France this year.

And many people want it.

People who move to another country give a lot of money to people who help them illegally cross the sea. A group called Rahimpur earned about €60m (£52m) in 2021 by organizing these illegal trips.

Even though there have been dangerous accidents, people are still willing to take risks and try to reach Europe on small boats. In June last year, it is believed that 500 individuals lost their lives when a boat overturned near the southern coast of Greece.

Craig Turner, who is the NCA Deputy Director, said that the criminal groups did not care about the people they were smuggling. However, he also mentioned that the agency will do everything possible to stop and break up these criminal groups bringing people to the UK.

Venezuela takes action to ensure credible elections

0

Government officials and opposition representatives from Venezuela have agreed to a plan that sets the foundation for fair presidential elections that everyone agrees should happen.

The government said they will ask other countries to come and watch the election happening later in 2024.

The 2018 election was thought to be unfair. The agreement was made in Barbados.

The agreement is a special achievement after 11 months of no progress in the talks.

However, experts say that it does not solve the problems that the opposition has been trying to fix.

There is no talk about freeing political prisoners or allowing certain opposition candidates to participate in the 2024 election.

The US, EU, Canada, and UK welcomed an agreement in Venezuela as an important step towards restoring democracy. They believe it is crucial for inclusive discussions to continue.

But it’s important to note that there is still a lot of work to be done. The statement asks for the immediate release of all people who have been unfairly arrested, for elections to be fair and independent, for the courts to be fair and independent, for freedom of speech (including for journalists), and for people to be treated with dignity and have the right to participate in politics.

The agreement signed on Tuesday has 12 points. These points include promises to make sure all candidates can use public and private media, and to ensure they can move freely and safely across the country.

The two groups have agreed to update the lists of voters, both in Venezuela and other countries, so that Venezuelans who have moved away can still vote.

However, there is already a disagreement about the qualifications that candidates need to have in order to run for the presidency.

The paper states that anyone who meets the requirements set by the constitution can register for the presidential election.

The leader of the opposition group, Gerardo Blyde, said that this could give a chance for opposition candidates who have been prevented from holding positions to “regain their rights. ”

However, the head of the government team, Jorge Rodríguez, seemed to say something different. He said that people who were not allowed to be candidates by the comptroller-general would not be allowed to participate in the 2024 election.

The problem is very controversial because many well-liked opposition leaders have been banned by the comptroller-general, who is a close friend of President Maduro.

One of the candidates in Sunday’s election to choose someone to represent the opposition in the 2024 election is believed to be María Corina Machado, who is considered the top contender.
The 56-year-old ex-legislator has said no to leaving the competition. She believes that if she becomes the opposition candidate on Sunday, the Maduro government will have to give in and allow her to participate.

The government hasn’t officially said who they will choose as their candidate, but many people think Mr. Maduro will run again.

The Maduro government wants the deal on Tuesday to help reduce the strict rules imposed by the US, which became stricter after his win in 2018. The US says his victory was not fair or valid.

The United States is very interested in resolving the crisis in Venezuela because a lot of Venezuelans have been forced to leave their country due to the bad economy, and many of them are going to the United States.

Venezuela has a lot of oil, more than any other country. If the US eases up on the restrictions they have on Venezuela’s oil industry, it would help both countries’ economies.

Liberia election results: George Weah and Joseph Boakai set for run-off

0

With almost all votes counted in Liberia’s election, President George Weah and his main rival Joseph Boakai are still running neck and neck, meaning they are set for a run-off.

Mr Weah currently has 43.8% of the vote with Mr Boakai on 43.5%, provisional results show.

A candidate needs more than 50% of the vote to be declared the winner.

The 10 October election was Liberia’s closest presidential race since a civil war ended two decades ago.

The election commission released the latest results after votes had been counted in more than 98% of polling stations, giving Mr Weah a slim lead of 5,456 votes.

Voting is set to be repeated in some parts of Sinoe, Nimba and Montserrado counties on Friday after ballots were tampered with by unknown people, the commission said.

None of the 18 other presidential candidates received more than 3% in the first round, and the two main candidates are likely to seek their endorsement, as each vote will count in a run-off.

Mr Weah, a former international football star, is seeking a second term as president.

The president won a run-off in the 2017 poll with 61.5% to Mr Boakai’s 38.5%.

He got the most votes in the first round of that election – 38.4% to Mr Boakai’s 28.8%, suggesting that Mr Boakai fared better in last week’s poll.

Analyst Abdullah Kiatamba told AFP news agency that whoever comes out on top in the first round will have the advantage of greater momentum.

A run-off will be held on 7 November after the announcement of official results.

Analysts say this might be the last attempt at the presidency for Mr Boakai, 78.

He served as vice-president in the government of then-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to achieve peace and stability in Liberia following a brutal civil war that killed an estimated 250,000 people.

He waged his campaign under the slogan “Rescue”, arguing that the West African state went downhill during Mr Weah’s first six years in office.

Mr Weah, 57, has dismissed Mr Boakai’s allegations, saying that he has made significant strides, including introducing free tuition for university students.

Egypt agrees to let first aid vehicles into Gaza

0

Egypt has agreed to let trucks with supplies go into Gaza. People all around the world are getting more and more angry about Israel locking up Gaza as punishment for the violent Hamas attacks that happened almost two weeks ago.

The continuous attacks on Gaza by Israel have caused more and more people in the Middle East to express their anger through protests. This has also increased concerns that the war could lead to a bigger conflict involving other countries in the region.

While returning from his trip to Israel, US President Joe Biden announced that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi agreed to open the Rafah crossing into Gaza for humanitarian assistance. The crossing is not under Israel’s control.

Biden said that around 20 trucks from an aid convoy that has been waiting for many days at the closed border gate will be allowed to enter Gaza. Biden said that the roads near the crossing have big holes from Israeli airstrikes, so they need to be repaired before the trucks can go through. He said that the work could be completed in eight hours on Thursday before the first aid supplies are delivered on Friday.

We are talking with different groups to make sure that we can send essential items to the people in need. Currently, we are in the middle of these discussions. “We’re trying our best to bring them in as quickly as possible,” said UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq to CNN on Wednesday.

We don’t know how much the first delivery will help the Gazan people who are suffering from a severe crisis that is affecting many people and getting worse, according to the World Health Organization.

“We are hopeful that the aid deal will not fail,” said Richard Brennan, a representative from WHO, on Thursday. He added that there are many challenging factors in starting this aid operation.

This is not a short race. This is only the beginning. This is a long race. He said it was a very long and difficult task, with the goal of distributing aid to 100 trucks per day.

Biden said that the crossing would only allow aid to enter, not people being evacuated. This means that the 2. 2 million Palestinians, including foreign nationals and dual citizens, who are stuck in Gaza have an uncertain future as they have no way to leave.

Over the past week, more and more Palestinians in Gaza have been asking for help. They moved towards the south because Israel told them to leave the north. However, they discovered that there was no safe place in the crowded area.

As the airstrikes continue nonstop, hospitals are running out of medicine and fuel to keep their lights on. The medical staff is overwhelmed and trying their best to save lives.

UN agencies are saying that stores are almost out of food and Gaza’s last seawater desalination plant has stopped working. This means there is a higher chance of more people getting sick or dying from lack of water and diseases passed through water.

For almost 17 years, Israel has stopped air, land, and sea access to Gaza, which has resulted in the strip being mostly cut off from the rest of the world. Things were already verybad before the war – and are getting even worse quickly after Israel stopped providing things to Gaza following the attack by Hamas, the group that controls the strip.

The murder and kidnapping spree resulted in the death of around 1,400 people in Israel. Most of the victims were regular people, not soldiers. This terrible event is considered the worst killing of Jewish people since the Holocaust. Hamas has taken control of about 150 people and is holding them against their will.

Since the past few days, around 3,500 people have been killed in Gaza, as confirmed by Palestinian health officials. Among the victims, there are many women and children who have lost their lives.

People in Arab nations were already getting really angry. However, it became very violent after a large explosion happened in Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza on Tuesday. Gaza authorities said that this explosion caused the death of hundreds of innocent people.

Palestinian officials say Israel bombed the hospital, but Israel says it didn’t.

Israel presented evidence on Wednesday that proves a rocket misfire by the Islamic Jihad militant group.

Biden supported that explanation on Wednesday, referring to information from US intelligence. A representative from the National Security Council said that after looking at pictures from above, intercepted messages, and public information, it seems like Israel is not to blame.

Islamic Jihad, a group that goes against Hamas, stated that they are not responsible.

However, many Arab countries expressed disapproval and blamed Israel’s military for bombing the hospital. This led to thousands of protesters gathering in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, and Tunisia, shouting slogans against Israel.

Other countries and international organizations, like the United Nations, have shown shock and sadness at the number of deaths and advised that we should wait until we have all the facts before blaming anyone.

The explosion happened shortly before Biden was scheduled to go to the Middle East. This caused a lot of panic and confusion among the people working for him. As a result, the important meeting with Arab leaders in Jordan had to be rescheduled.

But Biden said his talk with Egypt’s Sisi, which happened while their plane was refueling, went well. “See, I came here to finish a task, and I finish edit,” he said to CNN.

He did not provide detailed information about the efforts made to rescue Americans and other civilians from Gaza, but mentioned that he was optimistic about the progress being made in those attempts.

There are worries that protests against Israel are increasing in the Middle East, and this could lead to more conflicts, especially on Israel’s border with Lebanon. In that region, a militia supported by Iran is in control and has been fighting with Israel’s military recently.

The spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces is Lieutenant[Name]. Colonel Jonathan Conricus spoke to CNN on Thursday and said that Hezbollah had done something very serious. He said that the group shot many missiles at tanks from Lebanon and tried to secretly enter Israel but failed.

Conricus said that Hezbollah is causing trouble for Lebanon by involving it in a conflict that doesn’t concern it and will not bring any benefits.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping told Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Thursday that China is ready to work with Egypt to bring more certainty and stability to the region, as reported by state media.

Xi told Madbouly that the international and regional situation is changing a lot and is very complicated.

CAPITALISM HAS FOR CENTURIES FAILED OUR PEOPLE- Fred M’membe

CAPITALISM HAS FOR CENTURIES FAILED OUR PEOPLE

Socialism is about a better life for all our people anchored on equity, solidarity, humility and honesty. And socialism has shown how poor nations can get out of poverty in the shortages historical times. Look at the achievements of Cuba – a country fought and blockaded for over 63 years. Without the minerals Zambia has, Cuba in 2020 had a GDP of around 107.35 billion U.S. dollars. GDP is an important indicator of a country’s economic power.

GDP in Zambia was expected to reach 24.00 USD Billion by the end of 2021. In the long-term, the Zambia GDP which has been pursuing unbridled neoliberal capitalist policies for more than 30 years is projected to trend around 27.00 USD Billion in 2023, according to some econometric models.

India’s socialist state of Kerale is leading in many economic and social indicators and scientific achievements. Whatever their attempts to credit China’s achievements to capitalism, that is a great socialist state pursuing socialism with Chinese characteristics. And this what its leaders say. They attribute their economic successes to socialism. We also have the successes of Vietnam.

The ignorant attempt to smear socialism and socialists to hide their greed and corruption quest to become billionaires won’t do. No matter what they say or do socialism will one day triumph in our homeland. Capitalism has for centuries failed our people. Let them show us where capitalism has succeeded in Africa?

And more interesting is the fact that the most achievements scored in Zambia can be attributed to certain socialist inspired principles that were implemented in the country. The creation of free education, infrastructure development, creation of state-owned enterprises that employed many and some which still stand today are as a result of having a human face towards national economic development which in itself is socialism. Most leaders today who are a product of free education and other socially oriented programmes want to ridicule a system that moved them from poverty and then support imperialist policies that only benefit a few foreign interests.

Zambia definitely needs a citizen led economic development agenda which under a socialist government will be attained.

We want Zambians who can have genuine businesses and not these crooked dealers, tenderpreneurs calling themselves businessmen. Like China, Zambia will manage to free its people from poverty through socialism with Zambian characteristics. It’s socialism and only socialism that can guarantee us a better life and prosperity.

LET’S MAKE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER USEFUL- Fred M’membe

LET’S MAKE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER USEFUL

On this day of National Prayer which Mr Hichilema has ordained “Useless Day of National Prayer” it is necessary to reflect and meditate deeply on what it means to be a Christian.

Many people think that going to church occasionally or simply believing in God makes them a Christian. But the Bible presents a different perspective and definition of a Christian. A Christian is someone whose behaviourr and heart reflects Jesus Christ.

Acts 11:26 says, “…for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.” They were called “Christians” because their speech and behaviour were like Christ.

As a Christian, someone who has put faith and trust in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ through His death on the cross and subsequent resurrection, our behaviour mirrors, reflects and resembles Christ.

Being gracious and merciful to others is behaving like Christ.

Forgiving, loving and praying for our enemies is Christ-like.

Welcoming and serving the marginalised, the “least” among us, is being like Jesus.

Caring for the sick, needy, underprivileged, widowed, orphaned, poor, abused, and vulnerable—those who are last—mirrors and reflects the Son of Man.

Striving for justice resembles Jesus.

But it’s not simply good works that make someone a Christian. Being a follower and disciple of Jesus extends beyond our outward behaviour. It includes the condition of our heart.

When we put our faith and trust in Christ, when we commit our lives to serving Him and serving others as He served us, our behaviour and mindset reflects the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. Christ is with us and in us. We are new creations!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Our old way of thinking is gone. Our motivation, desire, and purpose are replaced with delight in the things of God. The joys and pleasures of our lives are exponentially enhanced through our relationship with Christ. And our selfish and worldly pursuits are exchanged for desire to honour God.

Life in Christ is not a life of “I don’t get to do what I like.” It’s not a life of loss. Instead, it’s a life of abundance, where what I used to like and desire pales in comparison to what my heart now desires. Christians see, feel and experience the world in a different way. A much grander, deeper and meaningful way.

One of the new ways we see the world is through the lens of “others first.” For example, Christians are called to love the orphan and widow and care for those less fortunate.

God’s concern for the vulnerable or marginalised is apparent in his command for us to defend them.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” — James 1:27
A Christian heart living out Christian values results in tangible care and compassion for others. It is characterised by active love for others. That’s the meaning of compassion.

Jesus said, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” — John 13:34-35
What Does it Look Like to Love Others as Jesus Loves Us?
One tangible way, and it is only one, that you can love others as Jesus loves us is by helping save a child who lives in absolute poverty. Often exploited, often oppressed, children living in poverty do not experience the innocence of childhood. Their world is not kind. In their world, they struggle to survive.

Child poverty destroys a child’s emotional and physical well-being. It affects their attitude, outlook and behaviour. Children living in poverty grow up believing the world won’t get better. That their situation will never change.

Poverty didn’t let go of their parents. It wasn’t any different for their grandparents, and it won’t be any different for them or their children. This hopelessness is the great lie of poverty.

Let us make National Day of Prayer useful and give it meaning!

Lawyer Fears Mob May Deal With Chikondi’s Alleged Murderer The “Mumbwa Style”

LAWYER FEARS MOB MAY DEAL WITH CHIKONDI’S ALLEGED MURDERER THE “ MUMBWA STYLE”

THE court hearing in the murder of young Chikondi Banda will on Friday morning shift to the scene where his decomposing body was found but lawyer of the alleged murderer is fearful that a mob may deal with his client, Nalukui Akafekwa the ‘Mumbwa way’.

This is in a matter where 24 year old Akafekwa is accused of murdering Banda whom he snatched from school.

After Dickson Ngoma, the car washer who discovered Chikondi’s decomposing body concluded his testimony during yesterday’s hearing, State advocate Chisomo Sikanyika made an application of a scene visit at the next sitting.

But Akafekwa’s lawyer Kapambwe Simukonda while not objecting to the application requested the Court to see to it that there’s heavy police presence at scene so that his client was not attacked by a mob.

“We have security concerns unless if we are assured that there will be a lot of police officers. We may be outnumbered considering the area and how people may react,” said Simukonda.

In assuring Simukonda of safety, Lusaka High Court Judge Mwape Bowa said; “It’s not the first time the police will be moved to the scene of crime. It’s up to the police to guide on how conducive the environment will be and how many officers will be needed.”

Earlier in his testimony, Ngoma narrated to the High Court that whilst harvesting maize near Emmasdale police station he was shocked upon discovering a swarm of flies hovering over the late Chikondi Banda’s body.

Ngoma said when he moved closer he was greeted by a foul stench and for a moment he thought it was a dead dog.

The 47-year old witness said he washes cars behind Emmasdale police station and when he reported at work on March 21, around 09:00 his female associate whom he identified as ‘amake Vanessa’ asked him to give her a hand in harvesting fresh maize.

“I obliged and whilst harvesting the maize I saw a swarm of flies hovering over something and there was a foul smell. I thought there was a dead dog around. When I looked closely at the point were there were many flies I noticed a folded leg,”he said.

“I moved closer and I saw a black shoe and grey trousers. I moved back upon realizing it was a human being and called passers -by.”

He said whilst observing the body with passers-by he noticed that it had a perforation on the stomach and maggots infested the body which was puffy and almost bursting.

The corpse seemed to be that of a male person because the person was clad in trousers which seemingly looked like a school uniform.

“The stomach was mouldy it had flies and maggots and I went to report to Emmasdale police station. The body lay 20 meters from the police station beside a drainage in the maize field and a gravel road leading to Chilulu garden,” Ngoma said.

“The police secured the scene and waited a bit for the child’s relatives to identify him and after some time his grandmother(Alice Banda) showed up to identify him and broke down upon seeing the corpse.”

The body was picked around 13:00 hours and deposited to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary.

After the testimony and scene visit application, Judge Bowa adjourned the matter to October 20 at 08:30 hours for a scene visit.
