UPND THREE YEARS ON CDF – A SAD STORY OF A GOOD PROGRAM- Rev Chilekwa Mulenga

CDF is a disaster

UPND THREE YEARS ON CDF – A SAD STORY OF A GOOD PROGRAM:

By Rev Chilekwa Mulenga
Wed 14th August, 2024

We commend H.E the President Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his party the UPND for increasing the CDF allocation from where the PF administration left it, at a very low figure of K1.6m to the current allocation standing at K30.6m per constituency this year. Zambia has a total of 156 constituencies.
We must however be quick to state that the UPND administration has encouraged the mismanagement of the program and used CDF for PDF in the last three years.

The following figures represent a picture of CDF for the last three years under the UPND in Government.

(1) Year 2022 CDF was placed at K25.7m
Total across constituencies;
K4,009,200,000 Billion

(2) Year 2023 CDF was placed at K28.3m
Total across constituencies;
K4,414,800,000 Billion

(3) Year 2024 CDF was placed at K30.6m
Total across constituencies;
K4,773,600,000 Billion

The grand total so far as at this year 2024 CDF stands at;
K13,197,600,000 Billion
(trillions in unrebassed kwacha)

According to the UPND Administration, a total of K84,6m (25.7 + 28.3 + 30.6) CDF is what would be spent in each constituency by end of 2024.
A quick check on the ground, sadly reveals that CDF has not changed the majority constituencies in terms of serious development, but a few connected to those in power or committee members. It is even more concerning to hear that women are being sexually manipulated to access CDF under the UPND administration going by lamentations from the Ndola Mayor Hon Jones Kalyati as was reported by some section of the media.

To date, hardly no constituency can point at any reasonable developmental projects under CDF apart from a few unplastered toilets and small class room blocks at inflated figures which still can not equate to the amounts injected into each constituency so far. In some cases, they’ve also kept purchasing second hand graders which are parked at Local Authorities gathering dust and not benefitting the locals, how sad !

The CDF under the UPND is a sad story of good program. The intended impact of CDF has not been realised due to partizan lenses and has not been appreciated by majority Zambians. A lot of our people don’t even know how CDF looks like later on how it tastes. There is nothing much on the ground save in a few people’s pockets which won’t last as it keeps going to waste, what a shame !

Further, on a sad note, the Church has been sidelined at the table of decision making (CDFC) and has not benefitted much due to corruption and unnecessary partizan elements. The three years of CDF under the UPND is a sad story and a conduit for serious corruption. The CDF annual absorption rate remains on average below 20% in the last three years, which is very unfortunate and sometimes makes us feel for President Hichilema whose desire was to see CDF work as a game changer but alas the results are poor.

Finally, we urge H.E President Hichilema to call for the audit of CDF for the last three years and review the program. We have reason to believe that CDF has become one of the means for deep corruption. The ACC should also move in and do their job. We hope and trust that the CDF program would improve in the coming year as the UPND first term of office nears expiry as Parliament dissolves in May 2026 in readiness for tripartite elections in August of the same year.

Ndola, Copperbelt, Zambia.

STUDENTS GIVE UPND’s 3 YEARS IN OFFICE THUMBS UP

AS the United Party for National Development (UPND)marks three years in office, University and colleges across the country have expressed their satisfaction for the on its efforts, particularly in the education sector.

The students spoke through their national leadership at a press briefing in Lusaka this morning.

Joseph Muteba, a student leader from the University of Zambia and member National Council of Student Unions (NACOSU) commended the UPND administration for increasing the number of students receiving educational loans.

“With the coming in of this government, there has been an increment in the number of students that have been awarded loans,” Muteba stated.

He noted that the number of loan beneficiaries at the University of Zambia has risen to approximately 11,000 students.

Muteba also praised the government’s decision to reinstate meal allowances, which were previously scrapped by the former administration, and highlighted the increase in these allowances.

“There was an increment in meal allowances from a certain amount to a higher amount,” he said, adding that this has alleviated concerns for students from less privileged backgrounds.

He also mentioned the increase in accommodation allowances, stating that students were overjoyed after receiving K3,900 in accommodation allowance, which was previously only a paltry K1,000.

Evelyn Hone College vice president Jameson Muleya acknowledged the UPND government’s efforts despite inheriting “empty coffers” and commended them for their work, particularly for the youth.

He urged young people to engage with the national youth policy and understand their entitlements.

Muleya encouraged constructive dialogue over criticism, particularly regarding issues like load shedding. “Instead of us criticising this government, let us provide ideas and solutions,” he said.

Bill Chaiwa, another student leader, spoke about the increase in student enrollment across educational institutions, crediting government interventions for this surge.

He also highlighted the government’s efforts to address load shedding and called on students to be “tools with the agenda of developing this country,” rather than tools of violence.

And Natural Resources Development College (NRDC) president Misheck Mumba clarified that their support for the government is not politically motivated but rooted in the students’ responsibility to praise, criticise, or recommend when necessary.

He applauded the government’s efforts to tackle unemployment, noting that over 75,000 public service workers have been employed in the past three years—a feat he said was unprecedented in the previous regime.

Mumba also called on the government to expedite the provision of solar energy systems in public institutions to address the loadsheding issues.

Meanwhile, NACOSU acting SG administration Vincent Sakala criticised opposition parties for failing to provide adequate checks and balances.

He urged the government to uphold the rule of law, particularly in prosecuting those involved in corruption.

“As a student movement, we will not tolerate anarchy in this country. We will not allow politicians to use us as tools in political expedience,” Sakala declared, asserting the students’ role as current leaders who will hold the government accountable.

BOZ MAINTAINS POLICY RATE AT 13.5%

…the decision took into account the impact of the drought as well as that of the past successive increases in the Policy Rate

Lusaka… Wednesday August 14, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has kept its key benchmark interest rate unchanged at 13.5 percent.

BoZ Governor Dr. Denny Kalyalya says at its Meeting held on August 12-13, 2024, the Monetary Policy Committee decided to maintain the Policy Rate at 13.5 percent.

Dr. Kalyalya said while actual and projected inflation remain elevated relative to the 6-8 percent target band, the Committee judged that the current monetary policy stance is appropriate.

He said this decision took into account the impact of the drought as well as that of the past successive increases in the Policy Rate, upward adjustments in the statutory reserve ratio, and recent reforms in the foreign exchange market.

“In taking the decision to maintain the Policy Rate as opposed to raising it, the Committee also took into account the impact on the stability of the financial system and growth, particularly in 2024, in the wake of the drought,” he told journalists in Lusaka.

“Average inflation rose further to 14.6 percent in the second quarter of 2024 from 13.5 percent in the first quarter of 2024. In July, annual inflation increased to 15.4 percent from 15.2 percent in June. The persistent depreciation of the Kwacha against major currencies, as well as rising prices of food (maize grain, maize products, and vegetables) and energy, particularly fuel, due to constrained supply continued to drive inflation in the second quarter.”

He stated that at the May MPC Meeting, inflation was projected to move into the 6-8 percent target band in the last quarter of 2025.

Dr. Kalyalya further said the current forecast, however, points to inflation staying above the target band throughout the forecast horizon.

“Inflation for 2024 is now projected at 15.3 percent compared to 13.7 percent in May, largely reflecting the persistent depreciation of the Kwacha and the adverse impact of the drought on food and energy. Inflation is, however, forecast to moderate to 12.7 percent in 2025, albeit higher than the 9.8 percent reported in the May 2024 MPC Meeting. In the first half of 2026, inflation is expected to be 10.8 percent. The moderation in inflation is mainly on account of expected improvement in external sector performance and declining world food prices,” he continued.

“Key upside risks to the inflation outlook remain broadly unchanged from May, but exacerbated by extended hours of electricity load management, as well as continued geopolitical conflicts and tight global financial conditions.”

The BoZ boss also indicated that mining tax receipts remitted directly to the Bank increased to US$252.5 million in the second quarter from US$190.8 million in the first quarter.

He said due to improved supply, the Bank scaled down market support to US$275.0 million from US$369 million in the first quarter.

“Gross international reserves increased to US$3.9 billion (equivalent to 4.3 months of import cover) at end-June from US$3.6 billion (equivalent to 3.9 months of import cover) at end-March. This was mainly on account of the US$569.6 million disbursement by the IMF under the ECF arrangement. In the second quarter of 2024, gold purchases amounted to US$8.6 million. This brings the total holdings to US$176.7 million since the Bank started purchasing gold locally,” he indicated.

“Domestic credit growth picked up to 11.7 percent at end-June from 10.5 percent at end-March mostly due to increased lending to the private sector. Private sector credit expanded by 35.8 percent in June in nominal terms compared to 30.5 percent in March.”

He disclosed that lending to Government through
Government securities contracted further as liquidity conditions remained broadly tight.

“Economic activity remained weak in the second quarter as business conditions deteriorated in the wake of the adverse impact of the drought. Growth prospects for 2024 remain pessimistic with growth projected at 2.3 percent on account of the adverse impact of the drought on agriculture and energy sectors. Growth is expected to rebound in 2025, attributed to the recovery in mining and agriculture sectors, and sustained expansion of ICT, financial and insurance, as well as wholesale and retail trade sectors,” he concluded.

How to Apply for Fulbright Scholarship 2025?

Also check Scholarships between October to December Deadlines

Please follow the following step by step application procedure to apply for Fulbright scholarship:

(1) Make Online Application

To apply to Fulbright program you need to assemble a variety of materials to help the USEFP assess your qualifications. All materials must be submitted with your application.

(2) Prepare Academic Transcripts and Degrees

All transcripts and degrees from a 4-year undergraduate degree or its equivalent – equivalent programs include international three-year bachelor programs or ACCA. PhD applicants must also submit their MPhil or MS degrees and transcripts. You can also apply while in your final year of undergraduate studies provided that you get your degree by December this year.

The USEFP looks at your transcripts from a holistic perspective – not just your GPA. They take into account where you went for your education, the courses that you took and your performance in individual courses. They also account for the fact that different universities have different grading systems. There is no minimum GPA to apply, although most successful Fulbright students have strong undergraduate records. Undergraduate academics are just one factor the Fulbright panel uses to evaluate a candidate.

(3) Take GRE General Test and TOFEL

When submitting your application, you may report the unofficial GRE score given on the day of the test, or your official score if you have received it. Every applicant must request that ETS send an official score report directly to USEFP using the code 9388. GRE general (international) test scores are required at the time of application. A decent score for Engineering and Sciences on the GRE is 315+ and that for other fields is 310+. GRE subject test is not required.

The minimum GRE score required to apply for the Fulbright is 138 for verbal and 136 for quantitative. But generally, accepted applicants have a GRE score in the upper percentiles. If you take the GRE test multiple times, you may report your best score, and Fulbright will only look at that score. TOEFL is NOT required at the time of the application submissions. You will have to take the TOEFL exam if you are called for an interview. IELTS is not acceptable.

(4) Prepare Two Essays

There are two essays for the Fulbright application. Each essay must be written in the space provided in the application form, which approximates to 800 words. Don’t over craft your essays; just write in a clear language so that the Fulbright panel that doesn’t know your world can understand you better. Before starting the essays you are going to need to figure out a marketing strategy for yourself. Successful applicants generally take 4-6 weeks writing and perfecting their essays.

(5) Three Recommendation letters are required

You will need to have three recommendations submitted with your application by the application deadline. You can have 3 academic reference letters, or 2 academic and 1 professional or 2 professional and 1 academic. In other words, 1 academic reference letter is a must. Your referees need to fill the reference forms given in the application package and then sign, stamp and seal them in an envelope. Once you submit your online application your referees will be sent an online form via email.

There is no set formula for “who should write your references”. Sometimes it is also not possible to ask your employer to write your recommendation – USEFP does not want to jeopardize your current position for the application process. Just find people who know you well enough to answer them. It can be a former employer, teacher or researcher.

(6) Prepare Academic Resume

A current and most up-to-date resume should be added to the space provided on the application form. You do not need to have it in any special format. Please read this helpful article on How to make wining Academic CV (Resume) for Scholarship?

(7) Submit Online Application

There is no application fee for the Fulbright program. Applications must be submitted online.

(8) Interview

After your written application has been submitted and reviewed, you may be invited to a panel interview. Interview decisions are made by mid-September and interviews are conducted in October. If you do not hear from USEFP by October it automatically implies that you have not been selected. The interview is a positive indicator of selection, but is not a guarantee of admission. Interviews are 15 to 30 minutes and are conducted by a panel of 4 people. You have to take your TOEFL registration slip with you on the day of the interview and it is not mandatory to have taken the TOEFL exam by the interview date.

It is important to visit the official website (link found below) and the country specific websites for detailed information on how to apply for this scholarship.

The Fulbright Scholarship deadline varies per country. But generally, it is between February to October annually.

Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg are working on a new album after 30 years

0

Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg are working on a new album after 30 years. Dre hinted at their latest collaboration in a new interview.

30 years ago, Dr Dre and Snoop joined forces to release their maiden album titled ‘Doggy Style’.

“Me and Snoop working together again, and it’s been 30 years, believe it or not. I’ve only produced one album with Snoop, which was Doggy Style, and that was 30 years ago,” Dre told ET. “We’ve done a lot of things in between and songs and performances and films and things of that nature, but this is my first time actually producing an entire album with him.”

Recalling their first collaboration, the 59-year-old rapper averred it was “much more fun” this time than the first one when they were much younger.

“We were kids at that time, you know what I mean? Snoop may have been like 18 or 19 years old and I’m, I think, I’m six years older than him. So we were kids at that time, and this one is gonna show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music,” he added. “I feel like this is some of the best music I’ve done in my career.”

In a related development, Snoop Dogg is expected to release his new album, ‘Missionary’ later this year.

Dre and Snoop are close pals—and their relationship goes beyond performing at the Olympics and collaborating on a new album. They have their own line of pre-mixed cocktails, known as Gin & Juice.

“It was a no-brainer,” Dre said of working with Snoop to create a beverage line, stressing that it was more than just putting their names on a product.

“Like the head phones, it’s not something we just put our face and name on, you know?” Dre stated. “I actually had to fly down to Chicago and go to this laboratory with a white coat on and create the gin from scratch. So it’s our gin, our own flavors in it… it’s easy and smooth.”

“We’re just having a lot of fun being creative,” the No Diggity rapper further said about his partnership and friendship with Snoop Dogg.

Now that Dre has confirmed they are personally having fun while composing a new album, music fans should expect something more entertaining from them.

Senegal warns singer Akon to build his futuristic pan-African city or lose land

In 2018, Akon commenced plans to build a futuristic pan-African city in Senegal, his country of birth. He described it as “a real-life Wakanda” in reference to the Afro-futuristic city in Marvel’s movie, Black Panther.

The Locked Up singer, who spent most of his childhood in the West African nation, announced that the city will use a cryptocurrency called AKoin.

Despite the impact of the coronavirus on the global economy in 2020, he assured that he was going ahead with his plans to construct the city. He told the Associated Press that the construction of the $6 billion project will commence in 2021.

Providing more details about the project, the musician said he hoped it would create jobs for locals in the West African nation as well as serve as a “home back home” for Black Americans and other people in the diaspora who are being racially discriminated against.

The singer, who traveled to the site of the project in Mbodienne with government officials in August 2020, said he had been able to acquire one-third of the $6 billion needed for the project. He, however, did not reveal the investors, saying non-disclosure agreements are in effect. The project was expected to be completed by 2023 but it is now in doubt as it has faced significant challenges and delays.

The Senegalese government is not happy about the project’s delay. Through the state-owned Sapco-Senegal, which is responsible for coastal and tourism development, the government has issued an ultimatum to Akon to commence substantial construction work or risk losing the majority of the land allocated for the project, according to Newsweek. The agency noted that the singer risks losing 90 percent of the land if no significant work is done on it.

Meanwhile, Akon’s team has said that preliminary work, such as geotechnical studies and land clearing, is underway. Project manager Cheick Seck from Dakar-based Axiome Construction maintains that they are awaiting further instructions to proceed with significant construction. Akon is expected to visit Dakar soon to address the concerns and reassure stakeholders of the project’s viability, Bloomberg said.

Legal hurdles

Aside from the threat by the Senegalese government to the singer-entrepreneur, the project is also facing legal hurdles. In 2021, Akon’s former business partner, Devyne Stephens, brought a $4 million lawsuit against the singer, claiming that he still owed him money from a 2018 settlement agreement, the Guardian Newspaper reported.

In March 2022, a legal document by Stephens, who has worked with Akon and other celebrities like Jay-Z and Destiny’s Child, asked the Manhattan Supreme Court judge to freeze the singer’s assets in New York until a judgment is reached on the $4 million lawsuit Stephens filed against Akon in 2021. Stephens argued that the court must freeze the musician’s assets to enable him to get his money if the judgment goes in his favor.

In an affidavit, Stephens’s lawyer, Jeffrey Movit, said Akon City and Akoin exhibited “many of the trademark characteristics … of fraudulent business ventures such as Ponzi schemes and pyramid schemes”. He further alleged that Akon City was “likely a scam”.

Despite denying the allegations about Akon City, the singer paid $850,000 to settle part of the ongoing lawsuit in April 2022.

Akon also noted that the pandemic was to blame for the delays and that plans were “100,000% moving,” according to the Guardian. He further noted that he was working on a 10-year timetable to complete the project.

Man says cup of coffee saved him from boarding plane that crashed in Brazil and claimed lives of all on board

0

A passenger has disclosed how a cup of coffee spared him from boarding a doomed Voepass Airlines flight in Brazil that crashed, killing everyone on board. Dramatic footage captures the plane spiraling out of the sky before crashing near a cluster of trees in a populated area on Friday.

All 62 people aboard the Voepass Airlines flight—58 passengers and four crew—have been reported dead, though some families are still awaiting confirmation.

Adriano Assis, a man who narrowly missed the flight, revealed that after finishing his hospital shift, he arrived at the check-in counter too late and decided to get a coffee while waiting for updates on flight 2283 from Cascavel to São Paulo. His delay ultimately saved his life, according to Daily Mail.

He missed his return flight to São Paulo after inadvertently giving himself too little time to check-in. By 10:40 a.m., an agent informed him that it was too late to board.

Assis pleaded with the agent to let him on the flight, but he was denied entry.

“At that moment, I argued with him and stuff, and that was it, and he saved my life, man,” he said to the Brazilian news outlet G1. “He did his job because… if he hadn’t done it… maybe I wouldn’t be in this interview today, sorry.”

The pilot of the doomed Voepass Airlines flight was identified as 35-year-old Captain Danilo Santos Romano, a seasoned aviator with a decade of experience. Based in São Paulo, Romano had logged over 4,500 flight hours and joined Voepass Airlines in 2022.

Colleagues remember him as always smiling and eager to help. Romano wrote in his LinkedIn profile description: “As an ATR72 Captain, I am responsible for the safety of passengers, cargo, and crew, as well as the maintenance of the aircraft’s airworthiness, to provide a secure, efficient, and economical flight.

“I am passionate about aviation and committed to delivering the best service to our customers and partners.”

The 35-year-old Palmeiras football fan and avid runner was at the helm when the Voepass Airlines plane spiraled down over a populated area and crashed behind a cluster of trees on Friday.

Witnesses described the horror of seeing the plane “fall out of the sky and explode,” as investigators work to uncover the cause of the tragedy.

“I almost believe the pilot tried to avoid a nearby neighbourhood, which is densely populated,” Daniel de Lima, a resident of Vinhedo near the crash site, told Reuters.

Voepass Airlines initially reported 57 passengers and four crew aboard the doomed flight but later confirmed an additional unaccounted-for passenger, bringing the total number of casualties to 62.

The airline stated that all those on board had Brazilian-issued documents. Among the passengers were doctors from Paraná traveling to a seminar, according to Governor Ratinho Junior.

“These were people who were used to saving lives, and now they’ve lost theirs in such tragic circumstances,” he said.

The Voepass Airlines plane was en route from Cascavel to Guarulhos, cruising at 17,000 feet when it suddenly began a rapid descent and crashed.

GIVING IT UP FOR THE GREATER GOOD

Donald Trump said of Kamala Harris, “I don’t know when she turned black!”. Trump made this comment because he did not have any cogent argument to counter what Kamala was saying. So he resorted to name calling.

It always surprises me how when people have no sensible or rational intelligent argument against what someone has said, they will not address what the other person has said. Instead they start trolling people and calling them names. Some of the popular mindless third grade troll lines are, ‘(s)he is just bitter’, ‘(s)he is disappointed they did not get a job’, ‘(s)he is a failure’, ‘(s)he is just seeking attention’ and there are many more.

You have people like Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa who was a very effective and strong supporter of HH and the UPND. Immediately UPND won the 2021 election Sishuwa did not, like some, go and camp at Community House lobbying for a job. His support for UPND was not in the hope that he would be given some post or put on some commission.

Sishuwa is an internationally acclaimed academician and receiving academic qualifications which are not honorary but earned. This is what allows him to stick to his desire to always stand for what he sees as being right.

Musamba Barbra Chama, a social and political commentator, once posted, “Nowadays, people don’t defend what is right; They defend whom they like and benefit from.”

This is a very true statement.

She has been exposing a lot of wrong doing made by the UPND government. She is using the same measure by which she was evaluating the PF government. Those who were cheering her on regarding exposés of the PF government are now calling her ‘bitter’ for using the exact same measure on the UPND.

You have Musa Mwenye S.C., who was a staunch UPND supporter and promoter. Some with Donald Trump’s thought processes will ask, “When did Musa become bitter?”

Musa has been Law Association of Zambia President, Solicitor General and Attorney General. He has therefore held positions which are much higher than that of Anti Corruption Chairman. Certainly positions remunerating him more than the ACC position.

Before Musa took up the ACC Chairmanship he was already a high price lawyer. Another high price lawyer unfairly accused of being bitter is John Sangwa S.C.,.

Sangwa, like Musa, was a strong supporter of HH and the UPND but started to change his view of them and even begun pointing out some deficiencies. Immediately he did this he was accused of being ‘bitter’ and ‘frustrated that he was not given a job.”

These high priced lawyers do not need a government job to survive.

I have not always agreed with positions that the four above have taken but I have appreciated that they took those positions because they truly believed in them. As a result, they were able to advance arguments that required anyone with an opposing view to stop and consider the issue raised; sometimes leading to a change of viewpoint.

They have made sacrifice. They could have been loners but they put up a good fight and gave up everything. They each have a clear conscious and defend what is right and not whom they like or can personally benefit from. Inspite of this you will see in the comments that follow trolls coming out and exposing themselves. Zambia will only advance if we go beyond the trolling culture.

We should all be giving it up for the greater good.

JAY BANDA NOT MAIN PLANNER
…the man is being used by ‘financial giants’ to throw govt operations into disorder – Miyanda

By Rhoda Nthara( The Mast)

HUMAN rights advocate Wesley Miyanda says those underperforming and defying the President’s directives are indirectly denting

Hakainde Hichilema’s image and the UPND government.

He says time to work on all weaknesses is “now or never”.

In a statement, Miyanda said fugitive Petauke Central Independent member of parliament Emmanuel Banda should at all costs be found and brought back to face the “wrath of the law”.

“All those financing his acrimonious activities must be investigated and made to account for their wrong motives. We need peace, unity and sanity in this country and not confusion,” he said.

Miyanda said the seemingly compounded cases of Banda may look simple and small but “quite intricate”.

He said the inconclusive drama of Jay Jay Banda’s “abduction and his recently mysterious disappearance from hospital in Chipata have given the opposition an added advantage to gain political mileage and deem UPND as a government of double standards”.

“Honourable JJ Banda is not the main planner and actor in the drama. The man is just being used by ‘financial giants’ with the aim of throwing government’s operations into disorder. Government through state intelligence and other security wings has to find and uproot the network aiding and funding honourable JJ Banda’s mischievous activities,” Miyanda said. “President Hakainde Hichilema should not in any way leave any stone unturned to make sure all criminals both in the previous and current government are held accountable. One thing which is very clear here is that the broad scheme of this syndicate of criminals supporting and funding onourable JJ Banda’s activities is to cause anarchy in the country and bring the current government to a standstill. As spectators of what is happening in the inner circle of the governance system we are aware that the republican President is surrounded by both positive and negative minded people. Even amongst the most trusted appointees such as ministers, permanent secretaries and many other heads in public institutions we still have people who are lukewarm and not in one accord with the President.”

He accused some officials of “taking things casually”.

“These are the same people pretending to be good to the President and yet busy working against the appointing authority by cutting big deals because they are in a hurry to amass wealth, building mansions, buying expensive cars and taking their children to expensive schools the same way their friends in the previous regime did,” Miyanda charged.

He said it is high time President Hichilema “threw his eyes outside the inner circle to identify people who mean well and are ready to carry his clear vision of taking the country forward”.

“What President Hichilema should know is that we still have men and women in this country who may not necessarily have suffered together with the him whilst in opposition but are fully in support of the President’s vision and economic policies of the current government,” said Miyanda. “They are fully experienced and competent enough to deliver to people’s expectations. Let the President identify those individuals from outside his usual team to work with for effective, efficient and transparent service delivery.”

4 WOMEN PUBLICLY AGREE TO SHARE SAMFYA CARPENTER

A SIMPLE 30-year old carpenter of Luapula Province has become the envy of every man in his village of Chipushi in Samfya District after four gorgeous women from different walks of life – two teachers, a compassionate nurse, and a flourishing businesswoman publicly confessed their love and willingness to share him romantically.

Initially, John Mulenga, a master woodworker with a secret talent for wooing ladies, had been quietly courting teachers, Rhoyda Mulenga and Chilufya Besa aged 26 and 28 respectively along with 30-year old nurse Christina Malama and businesswoman Rose Muma, born 23 years ago.

With his chisel-sharp charm, Mulenga had been skillfully juggling the affections of the four ladies, keeping his relationships with them hidden from one another.

Mulenga managed to juggle the ladies by cleverly introducing each woman to the others with fabricated familial ties.

To one, Mulenga presented another as his cousin; to another, a sister; and to the third, an aunt. But as the women’s paths continued to cross, seeds of suspicion began to sprout.

Mulenga was eventually caught when the four ladies bumped into each other after arriving at his house for a private session of bedroom capentery and joinery.

Confronted with the irrefutable evidence of his infidelity and under intense pressure, Mulenga confessed to his simultaneous romantic entanglements with all four ladies.

In a fiery explosion of anger and betrayal, the four women turned on Mulenga, unleashing a torrent of slaps and blows upon his cheating body.

The resulting commotion and Mulenga’s loud wailing alerted the entire village which rushed to his rescue, moving the furious quartet off his battered person.

The chaos of Mulenga’s four-women entanglement eventually got to the ears of village headman, Stedman Kabanga popularly known as Wami Wami who convened a free-for-all public hearing to resolve the situation.

At the gathering, Mulenga could not make a choice when the headman Kabange asked him to choose which lady to continue a relationship with.

Mulenga explaind that his intentions had never been to  cheat on any of the women but failed to resist their attraction and affection, they all fell in love with him.

And when the ladies were given an opportunity to speak, they shocked everyone.

To the surprise of the gathering, all four women refused to leave Mulenga saying they are willing to share and continue their relationships with him on the condition that he would devote time to each of them.

“John is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. His advice has helped me focus on my work and business. It’s not about the sex; it’s about his solid life advice,” Rhoyda explained to the gathering triggering a mixture of gasps, gossip and nods of approval from the gathering.

As for Chilufya Besa, she praised Mulenga’s practical skills and innovative business ideas.

“He may not give me money, but his time, effort, and ideas are enough to make anyone stay with him,” she said.

The other two women also praised Mulenga and said they were not willing to leave him.

With the ladies publicly declaring their willingness to remain with Mulenga, the headman pointed out that since noone had forced them, it was up to Mulenga to divide his love and time amongst his ladies.

The villagers murmured in agreement, accepting the unconventional arrangement.

The headman then dispersed the meeting that had turned Mulenga into an object for all the men in attendance.

CAPTION: Part of the crowd of villagers that attended the meeting to resolve John Mulenga’s entanglement.

Don’t be apologetic Mr President; get rid of rogue elements within the system!

By Prince B M Kaping’a

Following the daring escape of Petauke member of parliament JJ Banda, who was reportedly indisposed, from lawful custody a couple of days ago, some people have been venting their frustrations and anger on social media.

“Why can’t the President fire Inspector General of Police, Graphel Musamba,” one wonders.

“Outfoxed for the second time,” exclaims another one.

Meanwhile, someone suggests that the President should perhaps consider roping-in Bonny Kapeso who is reputed for tirelessly pursuing the disgraced law maker from the East for storming a police station in the company of fellow PF thugs and beating up the police officers he found on duty, to pulp!

What do we make of this? As information minister Cornelius Mweetwa says, JJ Banda was definitely aided by some rogue elements within the Zambia Police Service and the Zambia Correctional Service.

Economic Front president Wynter Kabimba even puts it more succinctly; “when you look at the trending events surrounding this Jay Jay saga, from the time of his alleged abduction, you actually clearly see that this is a syndicated project. A syndicate of criminals is using Jay Jay to destabilise the country.”

Musamba is definitely the right person for the job given the circumstances! The only challenge though are the cobwebs still lurking in the system…nay, Patriotic Front cadres who were illegally infused in the civil service and the law enforcement and security wings to push the PF agenda…well, according to their party manifesto.

How then do we apportion the blame on the Inspector General of Police for such lapses? The biggest blunder the new dawn administration made once they assumed power is failing to overhaul the entire system…and now the chickens have come home to roost.

Allow us to share this hypothesis…suppose you haven’t had a bath or changed your clothes for several weeks on end, hence resulting in reeking-off of an overpowering stench; would putting on fresh pair of clothes make you exude a sweet aroma?

Negative! Before switching to new clothes, you need to step into the bathroom, the chilling temperature notwithstanding, and treat yourself to a thorough shower. Everyone would want to grab you and give you kisses, and bear hugs. Don’t be apologetic in your quest to take us to the Promised Land, Mr President, get rid of rogue elements!

Why govt neglect to re-activate 991 police toll free number

Why govt neglect to re-activate 991 police toll free number

We have been alerting the nation for over 4 years now that the existence of a toll free number for police and other emergency services is an initial and basic requirement if any administration wishes to have a real record on law enforcement and service to its people.

First and foremost, all functional countries have working emergency numbers as a basic requirement. With a 24/7 recorded toll free number, the nation will know just how many people call for police support and never get it.

We are also aware that the govt may be afraid of being exposed for failure to timely respond to emergencies, but better to start somewhere and work on the system over time as emergency services are a bedrock of any functional economy.

The nation will allocate more funds to ensure police can respond to citizens calls 24/7, especially the night when thieves mostly strike and people are left hapless as no support can arrive.

Even the problem of carders which some people thought was synonymous with the previous PF government and now rife in the current UPND government all mushroom and grow due to lack of ability by police to respond in good time to emergency calls for law enforcement. Even today, ruling party carders are harrassing Innocent citizens on the road, in residential street and in compounds.

Today, people are even making fun of the police appeal for information on police calls for the public to share information to claim a reward of K2 million because some direct numbers that are used and answered by police not trained on taking information of sensitive nature.

We doubt if these numbers are even recorded for independent future audits for quality and follow through. These are the same challenges that were faced when Pamela Chisumpa and the other 12 girls were abducted. People had been calling various police numbers such that it was impossible to verify who actually found the girls with police claiming that they cracked the case. Why should we surely ignore all these things and yet expect the police service to improve????

This is one of the reasons why we ask if we are really serious in combating crime and putting down infrastructure and technology that can lead to more efficient policing in this modern era.

Below are some of the article we have written in the past on this matter. We even went further to speak to mobile network providers, some of whom confirmed that they are able to provide these toll free services as part of their corporate social responsibility as long as govt through the ministry of internal security puts up a serious national call centre.

These are basic requirements that need to be set up and people will be able to give tips, call for emergency help as well as improve the levels of law enforcement in the country.

However, we are also not naive to think that some interests groups want the status quo to continue, some for private interests and others for political interests. For Gods sake, set up a national police call centre whose costs can be as little as a few thousands of dollars and get the toll free numbers working.- Zambian Business Times

Police officially arrest Jay Jay’s wife with 5 others for his escape

POLICE have formally arrested, Lombe Chali, one of the wives of escaped remandee Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda, and five others, including two police officers and three prison warders, for aiding his escape from Chipata General Hospital.

Chali was the one at the bed side of her husband when the fugitive law maker escaped from the hospital where he was being treated under police surveillance over a week ago.

She was later interrogated by police and officially arrested for the offence of aiding a prisoner’s escape last Friday and was eventually released on bond after it was discovered that she had a hand in helping her husband’s safe illegal freedom.

Her arrest coupled with that of five others, including two police officers identified as
Mfungwe Phineas and Kabole Benson.

The other three are prison warders who have been identified as Sakala Moses, Nathan Mbao, and Musa Spider Zulu were all arrested yesterday.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, who confirmed the six arrests said all the suspects have been charged with the offence of Aiding a Prisoner to Escape Contrary to Section 120 Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

He said they have all been released on Police bond and are expected to appear in court soon to answer to the charges leveled against them.

“The Zambia Police Service remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring that those who breach the law, regardless of their status or position, are held accountable. We assure the public that no stone will be left unturned in this matter as we seek to ensure that justice is served,” Hamoonga said.

He added that police always appreciates the cooperation of the public in its efforts to maintain law and order, further encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Last week, Government spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa said in a briefing that investigative wings have made progress in tracing fugitive, Banda, adding that investigations have also revealed that his escape was a well sort out plan and heavily financed.

The minister also warned that as investigative wings get close to finding Banda’s location, those involved in sponsoring or aiding his escape will not be spared but will have the law to face.

Copper Queens Coach Bruce Mwape and his technical bench must go-Elvis Nkandu

Copper Queens Coach Bruce Mwape and his technical bench must go-Elvis Nkandu

Minister of Sports calls for dissolution of the Copper Queens technical bench

|By Aaron Mubanga |August 12, 2024|

Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Honourable Elvis Nkandu believes it’s time for the Copper Queens technical bench to leave the stage.

Nkandu believes the tipping point was Zambia’s 6-5 loss to Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympics after taking a 5-2 lead.

The Minister feels the Government should have a role to play in the picking of a coach when the National Sports Council of Zambia signs the long awaited MOU with FAZ which will make them responsible for paying for the Copper Queens coach.

Nkandu was speaking during a press conference at the New Government Complex on Monday morning.

“It was a very difficult group. In Zambia we have individual brilliance, we have talent. I think what we lack is people to mould this talent. Some of you watched Brazil play Spain, All Brazil did after scoring was to pack a bus and leave one player upfront. We have that in Barbra Banda we could have done that,” He said.

“I think on that point the technical bench should be completely done away with because at the end of the day this is taxpayers money. I think we did not deserve that , that’s a game we were winning (Australia game).”

“As the National Sports Council of Zambia signs the MOU and it’s us who will be paying the coach, we should have a role to play. We just have a role to play. Let me take this opportunity to clear the air that we don’t have the power to choose or fire a coach. It’s FAZ who is incharge of that. We just look for money when they have an engagement. I think the National Sports Council of Zambia as you sign these MOUs, let’s see how best we can play a role since we also release funds,” he added.

The Copper Queens crashed out of the Paris 2024 Olympics without a win.

Zambia lost 3-0 to the USA in the first game before a heartbreaking 6-5 defeat to Australia after giving away a 5-2 lead.

In the final game, Germany inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Bruce Mwape’s ladies.

The Copper Queens will be looking to redeem themselves next at the Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Simone Biles’ biological mother seeks forgiveness for abandoning her

Shanon Biles, the estranged mother of gymnastics star Simone Biles, has said she hopes to be able to have a relationship with her daughter.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Shanon, the biological mother of the gymnastics star, expressed hope that she would be able to one day be able to ask the seven-time Olympic gold medalist for forgiveness over her past.

Shanon, 52, gave up Simone and her younger sister, Adria, to their grandfather and grandmother, Ron and Nellie Biles, when the girls were just toddlers as Shanon battled drug and alcohol addictions.

Simone Biles

Simone and her grandparents

“I would like to make amends with Simone personally — I’m just waiting for her and [her younger sister] Adria,” Shanon told the Daily Mail. “I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.

“I’m waiting for the opportunity but I’m waiting on her to be able to come to me. Let’s sit down. I just have to be patient.”

The outlet published the interview with Shanon just days after the close of the Summer Olympics where Simone cemented her place as the champion in gymnastics by taking home three gold medals and a silver medal to increase her career medal count to 11.

Shanon said that she had been following the game back at her home in Columbus, Ohio, where Simone and her sister had once lived before moving around foster homes and then being adopted by her grandparents in Texas. Shanon gathered with friends and neighbors to watch the games.

Shanon and Simone are not close and do not currently have direct communication with one another.

“What I hear about Simone I hear through my dad. I speak to my dad all the time. We’re good now. It was just his birthday, and I called to wish him happy birthday,” Shanon said.

“If I need to know anything I call my dad. I ask him about Simone, and he keeps me posted,” she added.

Ron and Nellie Biles raised Simone and Adria in the Houston, Texas area and provided the girls the stable home life they had struggled to find while living with their biological mother.

In the past, Simone has been quick to correct anyone who called Shanon her mother.

Shanon told the Daily Mail that she is clean and sober and she has been working as a cashier at Save A Lot, a discount grocery store.

“I’m not the person I used to be. I’m OK, today. I’m a loving person,” she said, while still feeling the pain of missing out on some of the biggest moments of Simone’s life such as her wedding with Bears safety Jonathan Owens.

Shanon wants the opportunity to tell Simone and Adria “how it really was” during those early days and wants to tell Simone that “I love her and I’m very proud of her.”

Simone’s biological father Kevin Clemons has also expressed a desire to build a relationship with the gymnast. Shanon told the outlet that she was in contact with him.

While she does have a direct number to reach Simone, she said she wouldn’t be the one to reach out first.

“I do have a direct number, but I won’t use it,” Shanon said.

“I want her to reach out to me. She’s 27 now. She’s married. I would have liked to have been a part of that, but I just have to wait for her. You can’t push anybody.

“It hasn’t happened yet, but I have patience. I’m waiting on her.”

ARREST OF THREE TEACHERS FOR EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE AT KASAPA SECONDARY SCHOOL

August 13, 2024-The Zambia Police Service wishes to inform the public of a case involving the illegal possession of Grade 12 General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination materials, which has resulted in the arrest of three teachers from Kasapa Secondary School in North-Western Province.

On August 8, 2024, between 20:00 hours and 22:00 hours, Police at St. Dorothy Police Station received a tip-off from a concerned member of the public regarding possible examination malpractice at Kasapa Secondary School. The information indicated that some teachers had unlawfully accessed already completed answer booklets from the school’s strong room and were displaying these answers to a select group of learners.

Acting on this information, police officers from St. Dorothy Police Station promptly responded and preceded to Kasapa Secondary School, where they discovered that approximately 20 GCE learners had gathered at a teacher’s residence. These learners were being shown answers for the 2024 Grade 12 GCE Biology Papers 1 and 2, as well as Mathematics Papers 1 and

2.
Further investigations led to the recovery of the said answer booklets from Mr. Teddy Mulenga, a senior teacher at Kasapa Secondary School. Additionally, it was discovered that the answer booklets had been unlawfully removed from the school’s strong room.

As of today August 13, 2024, three suspects have been detained in police custody for the offence of Examination Malpractice, contrary to Section 22(c) of the Examinations Council of Zambia Act No. 3 of 2023. The suspects are:
1. Mr. Teddy Mulenga aged 38
2. Ms. Mary Luhanna aged 42
3. Ms. Mary Kunda aged 43

All three suspects are teachers at Kasapa Secondary School and were responsible for securing the keys to the strong room where the examination papers are stored.

The Zambia Police Service is committed to upholding the integrity of the examination process and ensuring that those who engage in examination malpractice are brought to justice.

Further investigations are ongoing, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

We urge all stakeholders, including teachers, learners, and the general public, to maintain the highest standards of integrity during examinations and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

Ben Affleck-J.LO Divorce Rumors: Suge Knight Believes FBI Gave Affleck Compromising J.LO Footage From Diddy Raids

Suge Knight, a former record executive and convicted felon, says Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s rumored divorce is due to Lopez’s appearance on recordings that the FBI took during their raid on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ houses.

The former CEO of Death Row Records, who is incarcerated for a deadly hit-and-run in 2015, claimed Affleck now has access to those recordings and that the information on them has been a major factor in the couple’s relationship’s strain.

In the most recent episode of his prison podcast, “Collect Calls with Suge Knight,” Knight explained his theory in detail.

According to Knight, some of the tapes from the raids on Diddy’s residences earlier this year may have been taken by the FBI and may have included Lopez.

He said, “They raid Puffy’s house, and they get all these videos of J-Lo doing this and J-Lo doing that,” he remarked, alluding to her participation in the 1999 nightclub shooting in which the music mogul set Moses “Shyne” Barrow to take the fall for the music mogul.

“…And they know the fact that J-Lo lied and said that the gun was Shyne’s or whatever and sent that man to prison, destroyed his life, and she knew it was Puffy’s.”

The former CEO of Death Row Records asserts that the FBI provided Affleck with the tape as a “solid”.

To provide him access to the situation prior to any videos being released to the public, particularly in light of the significance of the Bad Boy founder’s assault on Cassie.

He went on to say, “It’s a white man who got respect in the white world. I’m quite sure they said, I’m quite sure they [the FBI] probably called Ben Affleck,” ‘We want to show you some things about your wife.’”

Suge Knight believes Ben Affleck wouldn’t be able to look at Jennifer Lopez the same after watching the video.

“I’m quite sure they headed for divorce because that’s a man who had a good life. Great parents don’t spend a lot of money. Ain’t trippin off paparazzi; he’s living his life. He got his own team. She brought all that extra sht out and now that motherf*ker. He went out.”

When one takes into account the love past between Diddy and J. Lo, these claims take on new significance. Those two were together from 1999–2001.

Diddy has faced accusations of sexual assault and other offenses that are said to have occurred during that same period within the past few months.

Knight’s allegations come after months of speculation over Affleck and Lopez’s breakup.

President Tinubu has signed into law a bill seeking to increase the salaries and allowances of judges by 300 percent

President Bola Tinubu has signed into law a bill seeking to increase the salaries and allowances of judges in the country by 300 percent. The judicial office holders’ salaries and allowances bill, which was passed by the Senate in June, will allow the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to earn N64 million annually.

In a statement released on Tuesday, August 13, the Special Adviser to the president on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado, said Tinubu’s signing of the bill marks his “unwavering commitment” to the welfare of Nigeria’s workforce.

“This extraordinary move underscores Mr President’s absolute prioritization of the welfare of Nigerian workers above all else just like he did when he recently put on hold an ongoing Federal Executive Council meeting to assent to the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000. In a demonstration of his visionary leadership and deep compassion for the Nigerian people, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCON has once again affirmed his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the nation’s workforce by assenting to the revised Salaries and Allowances for Judicial Office Holders.

This landmark decision reflects Mr. President’s profound dedication to ensuring that every salary earner in Nigeria, especially those serving in vital and strategic roles, receives the recognition and compensation they deserve.

By prioritizing the financial well-being of our judicial officers, Mr President is not only reinforcing the integrity of our justice system but also setting a new standard for leadership that truly values the hard work and sacrifices of all Nigerian workers.

Under President Tinubu’s administration, the welfare of our workers has become a central pillar of national progress.

His visionary policies continue to uplift the lives of millions, ensuring that the dignity of labour is upheld and that those who serve our nation are justly rewarded.

This assent is a clear testament to Mr. President’s tireless efforts to build a more prosperous and equitable Nigeria, where every worker is empowered to contribute to the nation’s greatness.

As we look to the future with hope and determination, Mr. President remains steadfast in his mission to champion initiatives that deliver fair compensation, improved working conditions, and a brighter future for all Nigerians.”

Lado lauded Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, and Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the House of Representatives, for their “patriotic commitment” to improving the welfare of Nigerians.

“The judiciary remains the hope of the common man and it is hoped that Nigerians seeking justice get it irrespective of their status in life,” he added

Secret conversations between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris begin

By Prof Munyonzwe Hamalengwa

Kamala, this is Donald Trump. You recently said in your campaign that, and I quote, “well Donald, if you have something to say, you have to say it to my face.”

What a clever line you have invoked here, Kamala. And it got traction in the media. That is why I am calling you now to say something to your ear. Hopefully it will be arranged that later on I will say everything to your face at a face to face debate. You know, the beauty of American democracy is that presidential candidates can debate on national and international TV for people to judge for themselves. In countries like Zambia, for example, President Hakainde Hichilema and Edgar Lungu have never debated each other. How could that be in a democracy when the electorate want to see how their presidential candidates would fair against each other. Listen, I demolished devastatingly Sleepy Joe in our recent debate. I put him to sleep. He was so inarticulate that your party had to withdraw him and they put you in his place. I will put you to sleep, Kamala as well, you can’t match my skills in debating. I put everybody I debate with to sleep. Look, I beat those Harvard trained lawyers like Ted Cruise to shame. I undress even the best of intellectuals. First, I give them a nickname and I have already given you the nickname but somehow it hasn’t stuck to you like crazy glue. Crooked Hillary fit like glove in hand. Sleepy Joe fit nicely.  Crazy Nancy Pelosi fit like Siamese twins. For you for some reason I can’t find a suitable sticking disarming nickname but I will find one. It is one of my most treasured gifts, Kamala, to give devastating nicknames to disempower, disrobe, disarm, dismiss, decompose, demonise, demolish, dismember,

destroy, disembowel and detract and destract my opponents. Look at how all the words I have used start with a “D”.

Kamala, they don’t call me an unclaimed genius for nothing.  When we meet face to face I will dismember you. Kamala, do you  wonder, just to digress a little bit, who do you think would demolish the other if HH and ECL of Zambia debated each other on the economy, rule of law, corruption, foreign trade, how to grow the economy etc. Kamala, you have used the now famous or infamous resounding successful invocation of, and I quote, “We are not going back!”

In Zambia, a country you visited when you were young and my intelligence have dug up all the photos you took while young and in your recent trip as VP and you met HH, who do you think the slogan, “We are not going back” would be deployed against? By the way, how is HH? I hear one of those two presidential characters have exactly similar characteristics to me. All the negative and positive characteristics that I have I understand are reposed in that Zambian presidential character. Kamala, do you know which character in Zambia fits my character? Not exactly because I am a unique person, never to be duplicated or photocopied but there are poor pretenders out there, the Bolsonaros of this world. HH and ECL should debate and we will see who will put the other one to sleep. One will have to retire the other one as I retired Sleepy Joe to my own regret. Now I have you to contend with, Crazy Kamala. I don’t believe that is the nickname that I have given you. Didn’t I say recently that you are not as crazy as Crazy Nancy Pelosi. That is right.
Kamala, I have called you to reveal to  you some important information some of which you may know and some not. Presidents as in former and present presidents have secret conversations where they discuss things freely. I have had secret conversations with Bush (not yet published), Obama, Clinton (not yet published), Carter (not yet published), ECL, HH (not yet published) and now you.
Let me hasten to add this that Kamala, your Godfather is Barak Obama. You are Obama’s legacy. And just like I have left a legacy in judicial appointments to imprimatur my policies for decades to come, Obama convinced Sleepy Joe to appoint you as VP for the purpose of you taking over when Sleepy Joe is done. That son of a gun! Whatever his designs were for the future, they have come to pass.  Look, recently you had hired Eric Holder, the former Attorney General under Obama to vet your vice presidential running mate. Eric is a creature, like you, of Obama. Eric is Obama’s boy. Obama has created an octopus in American politics for the foreseeable future. Do you know what an Octopus is, Kamala? Without Obama, Sleepy Joe would not have won the presidency from me. And I only won the presidency against Hillary because of WikiLeaks and the unexpected help from my Russian friends. Now the road to the White House passes through the Obamas, assuming you beat me to the presidency. But I have a secret weapon to unleash against you. I will be deploying the Israeli weapon: the Israeli-Gaza war will win me the presidency as I will appeal to the powerful interests in American society that cater to the interests of Israel that I am the only person who can defend and protect Israel from its enemies and those rich and powerful friends will come to my rescue. Without my Israeli friends you, Kamala, would become President of the United States. Just as your road to the White House passes through Obama, your cul-de-sac preventing you from entering the White House is Israel. Particularly the Israeli-Gaza war. Defeat Israeli power and you will be in the White House. Your congressional friends who support the Palestinians have already been casualties of the Israeli-Gaza war. They have fallen victim to Pro-Israeli interests in the Israeli-Gaza war. America can cry all it wants about no foreign influence in the election outcome domestically. We know better. Do you know how tough it is to beat Israel in American electoral politics. As you campaign, read on that topic and you don’t have to pay me for it.

Kamala, I also wanted to tell you that if for nothing else, it is embarrassing for me, a white guy, to lose this election to a Black person. Frankly, I thought you were Indian before you turned Black in order to win this election. There are more Blacks in America than Indians. I told you that presidents past, present and future talk to each other candidly. What I am telling you is between us.

I can’t afford to lose to a Black person again and I regret putting Sleepy Joe to sleep because if he beat me, at least I would have lost to a White man, frankly speaking. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN means what it means that White men must regain their past glory. Kamala, can you imagine being beaten by a Black woman! Can you imagine I lost to Sleepy Joe! I have lost in court to two Blacks: Leticia James and Alvin Bragg in New York. I lost but at least it is in court and not the political arena. I know you have hired Obama’s famous campaign strategist who won him the election and they want you to win. The battle is on, Crazy Kamala. I will not relent this time. Put on your armour. I am fighting Obama your Godfather through you. Obama is fighting me through you. All gloves are off. It is bare knuckle fight now. Only one of us will survive this bruising fight. I will talk to you again soon.

THE IMPERFECTION OF Mr EDGAR LUNGU’S REASONING

Authored By Mupishi Jones

On 12th August,2024 whilst the New Dawn Administration was reminiscing their three years in office,Mr Lungu wrote a very long catalogue of challenges facing the people of Zambia purportedly brought about by the UPND as compared to how it was during his administration.

Let me mention on the onset that Mr Lungu came back into active politics to try and get back into the office of Republican Presidency after retiring. However, what is not clear is his intentions, whether to come and serve the people of Zambia or his family and friends, is a topic for another day.

However, my point of departure, and am sure just like many others who experienced his legacy,is his lack of reassuring messages to the Zambian voters on the catalogue of problems which the citizens are currently facing.

After reading his article,I concluded that Mr Lungu doesn’t really know the reasons why he was rejected by such an embarrassing margin on 12th August 2021. He seems to be glossing over the real reasons why his government was voted out in preference to the UPND government of Mr Hakainde Hichilema. He doesn’t want to talk about how he is going to deal about the corruption that was endemic in his administration,is he going to allow the law to question the source of wealth for his wife, children and friends?

He doesn’t want to talk about how he is going to deal with the brutality which was the hallmark of his regime,is he going to pardon murderers like his incarcerated personal barber man Chilekwa and others?

He doesn’t want to talk about how he is going to handle the political caderism which was sustaining his regime, is he going to bring back that hooliganism in the streets, markets, bus stations alongside with the commanders? Mr Lungu’s current campaign message cannot be complete without telling people in no uncertain terms whether he will be bringing back his akawawawa legacy or how he proposes to change! That’s what the Zambian citizens wants to hear more from him that what they already know.

The current challenges he is emphasizing and repeating on and on in his article and rallies are all well known by the people,in fact they’re feeling them more than himself. He mentions of the high cost of living, who doesn’t know that? He talks about high commodity prices such as a bag of mealie meal, does he think the Zambian people don’t know? Load shedding, the ordinary citizens are even feeling it’s impact more than Mr Lungu because Mr Lungu can afford alternative sources of energy.

Let me remind Mr Lungu that the people don’t want to be constantly reminded on the problems that they are passing through but what they want to hear are tangible solutions to those problems, solutions which should be different from what the current New Dawn Administration is implementing.

For instance, the New Dawn Administration has taken a lead in promoting enhanced agriculture systems such as winter maize, offering incentives for citizens to engage in agriculture including the civil servants, increased agricultural input package to eligible citizens,is encouraging government institutions such as ZNS,ZCS and Local Authorities to venture into commercial farming, all these measures are aimed at bringing the cost of mealie meal down, what is the alternative message to ameriorate the high cost of mealie meal from Mr Lungu? That’s what people are interested to hear not the high cost of mealie meal which they already know!

When you read or listen to news whether on social media or on the main stream media, almost on a daily basis, the current government is launching different sources of energy in this country.Today as you’ll be reading this article, the Republican President will be in Southern Province to launch an expanded energy plant at formerly Maamba Collieries, the other day his government was laughing the Net Metering solar system. The results to these measures may not be immediate but definitely they’ll be visible to everyone very soon and the prayer to every objective citizen is not to disrupt the status quo.

What is the alternative voice from Mr Lungu on the power deficit being experienced by the citizens? That’s the message which the citizens want to hear and not reminding them on loadsheding which they already know!

The people are more interested in listening to alternative solutions from what the current government is doing unlike constantly reminding them of the problems which they are feeling more than Mr Lungu himself.

It’s like reminding a person with a painful festering wound that he has a wound,do you think he’d be interested to hear that? He is more interested to hear about the solution to cure his painful wound than simply telling him that he has a wound!

No matter how much Mr Lungu shouts by highlighting the current problems which people are facing,as long as he is not offering alternative solutions, his message will only remind Zambians that the man is coming back to power to rescue his family and friends facing corruption charges from being held accountable for their misconduct whilst in government! The citizens will have no choice but to conclude that the man, together with his colleagues facing corruption charges are bitter and have regrouped to come back into power to save themselves and deal with those prosecuting them!

As a matter of fact, the prayer of every objective Zambian is to have the people who were nonentities and paupers before forming government but suddenly became millionaires account on how they acquired their questionable wealth.
It is therefore naive for Mr Lungu and his colleagues to think that the fight against corruption is for President Hakainde Hichilema, this fight is the major reason why they voted Mr Lungu and his administration out of office. The desire for the Zambians was not to end at just voting the PF out of office but to hold them account for their conduct whilst they were in power!

Any objective person knows that it doesn’t make any sense for Mr Lungu’s wife, children and friends to claim that their sudden millionaire status is as a result of Mr Lungu’s gifts when Mr Lungu himself had nothing to show off before he became President seven years before!
Let’s remember that in 2015, according to official records,Mr Lungu’s declared total assets were K2.3m. In 2016, his total assets jumped to K23.6m in a contravesial manner.Thats the figure which is on record todate. Now today someone to come and claim that he was given millions of kwachas far more than his messairs total assets is something that the majority citizens want more clarification!

In conclusion, let me advise Mr Lungu that if he wants the citizen to believe him, let him begin by outlining clearly how he proposes to deal with those issues that offended them most.Zambians are still licking wounds of brutality inflicted upon them by his fallen administration which he wants to exhume,
I submit

THE ECL LEGACY THAT MAKES HIM VERY PROUD

0

THE ECL LEGACY THAT MAKES HIM VERY PROUD- MY RESPONSE.

By Macpherson Mutale

“This evening, as I arrived home and faced yet another power outage, I turned to social media for some distraction.

Among the posts, one particularly stood out—a piece written by our former president, His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu. In it, he expressed concern over the soaring costs of living in the past three years, lamenting how the Zambian people are struggling to meet their basic needs.

While it is essential to acknowledge the challenges our nation faces, it is equally important to address some of the claims made by former President Lungu.

Firstly, let us remind him that his so-called democratic and peaceful handover of power was not merely a benevolent gesture but a constitutional obligation.

The Zambian people decisively voted to retire President Lungu in the 2021 elections, despite his apparent belief that he could hold onto power indefinitely. He claimed that he would handover power to himself.

The period leading up to the 12th of August, 2021, will be remembered as one of the darkest chapters in Zambia’s democratic history.

Under President Lungu’s administration, opposition parties were severely restricted from campaigning freely. Certain areas were declared off-limits to the opposition, and President Hakainde Hichilema, the current leader, was detained at Chipata Airport just days before the polls, while his supporters were subjected to violence in the streets.

If this is what President Lungu considers a peaceful and democratic transition, then we clearly have vastly different definitions of those terms.

Former President Lungu’s pride in his legacy compared to the current administration is an interesting narrative, especially when we consider the state of the nation he left behind.

Under his watch, Zambia’s debt ballooned to unsustainable levels, leading to a default that has crippled our economy. He conveniently omits the fact that the low prices of commodities during his tenure were artificially maintained through unsustainable borrowing.

Fuel, fertilizer, maize, and even electricity were subsidized by funds that were never paid back, leaving the current administration with a mountain of debt to address.

It is worth asking former President Lungu to compare the state of the economy when he assumed office to when he left. What was the GDP growth rate then, and how has it changed?

What were the prices of essential commodities like fuel, mealie meal, sugar, and cooking oil when his party and he, took over in 2011 and again in 2015? These are questions that deserve honest answers.

During his presidency, Zambians voiced their concerns about the high cost of living, only to be met with disdain. We were told to eat kandolo (sweet potatoes) instead of bread, and when the nation faced power shortages, one of his ministers famously suggested that we  should urinate in the Kariba Dam. Has President Lungu forgotten these moments?

Let us not forget the hardships endured by students, retirees, and public service workers under his administration. Meal allowances were cut, retirees were denied their dues, and council workers went months without pay. Is this the legacy that President Lungu is proud of?

Now, as a private citizen, President Lungu feels the economic pinch that ordinary Zambians have endured for years. It is worth noting that while in office, his personal wealth grew from less than K2 million in 2015 to over K23 million by 2016.

What might his current net worth be, after being retired by the Zambian people in 2021? Can a man who accumulated such wealth while in power genuinely represent the interests of ordinary citizens?

Under his leadership, cadres were allowed to collect public resources from markets, bus stations, and institutions like ZESCO. Money that could have funded free education was instead diverted to the pockets of those politically connected. Is this the legacy that President Lungu is so eager to boast about?

The economic challenges we face today are a direct result of the policies and decisions made during his administration. The consequences of his misrule are the reality we must now contend with.

How can a leader proudly claim a legacy built on mortgaging the future of the nation for short-term political gain?

We acknowledge the vision of President Michael Sata, who sought to invest in infrastructure development. However, President Lungu himself admitted that he had no vision of his own, and sadly, the vision left by President Sata has been marred by the pain and suffering inflicted on the Zambian people.

President Lungu in his post says, “Anywhere in the world, a good government advocates for public policies and strategies that seek and ensure stable economic growth, inclusive development, and an affordable environment for all citizens rather than perpetuating massive poverty, economic inequality, citizen hardships, social misery, and bankruptcy for the governed people. This is certainly shameful!”

Ironically, these words perfectly encapsulate the trajectory of his administration. Our economy, democracy, and social fabric all suffered a steep decline under his leadership. Indeed, it is shameful.

Yes, times are tough, and the cost of living is high. The power situation is dire, and many Zambians are struggling. But to claim that his legacy is more admirable than the current circumstances is laughable.

We face these challenges today because of the actions of those who prioritized personal gain over national progress.

Thank you, former President Lungu, for reminding us why we retired you in national interest. Zambia is not short of leaders who can steer this nation in the right direction, and we remain hopeful for a better future.”

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S IMINGALATO IS TO MAKE ZAMBIANS SUFFER – KALABA

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S IMINGALATO IS TO MAKE ZAMBIANS SUFFER – KALABA

…says the UPND is a Government of the elite and are using CDF to steal public resources.

LUSAKA, TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2024 [SMART EAGLES]

CITIZENS First President Harry Kalaba says under the UPND Zambians have been subjected to untold suffering and misery.

Speaking when he featured on Kwithu FM radio this morning, Mr. Kalaba said President Hichilema’s ‘imingalato’ are only making Zambians to suffer even more.

He said the UPND Government should begin to treasure citizens who are the custodians of power.

He said it sad that the UPND Government and President Hichilema only value the elite at the expense of ordinary citizens.

“President Hichilema’s imingalato is to make the people of Zambia suffer. I have not seen a country that only treasures the rich like Zambia under the UPND. Government should begin to look after the poor especially those in rural areas. As Citizens First we want you to know that even in your poverty your spirit are uplifted and happy, when you vote for us things will change not these jokes we are seeing'” Mr. Kalaba said.

And Mr. Kalaba who is also former Lands and Foreign Affairs Minister said it is laughable for President Hichilema to announce the increase of the Constituency Development Fund CDF in the next budget when his Government has failed to administer the current fund.

He said not all constituencies have received the current K25 million CDF and wonders why President Hichilema has continued to brag about it.

” CDF is being used to steal public resources and also giving it to their cadres so that they can continue praise singing. They are misusing the money, you find that a simple ward chairman is driving very expensive vehicles and some are even building lodges,” Mr. Kalaba said.

“CDF must benefit all Zambians not a select few and it does not make sense to increase it to K35 million when Government is failing to fully manage the current K25 million CDF,” He said.

THE ZAMBIA & CONGO DR BORDERS SHADOW BOXING IS NOT GOOD FOR BOTH COUNTRIES, ENTIRE SOUTHERN AFRICA, SADC & THE AU- Miles  Sampa

By Miles B. Sampa, MP

August 13th, 2024

My take on the Zambia DRC border closure be it temporal is that it’s not good for the ordinary citizens of both Countries, COMESA & SADC Regions.

As known by most DRC imports via Zambian roads machinery, equipment & vehicles from SA and via SA ports from Europe, Asia & USA. Similar imports into DRC also pass through Zambia from Namibia and Mozambique ports.

Then foodstuff like tomatoes, onions, vegetables, fruits, chicken, goats etc is trekked from all provinces of Zambia to DRC through the Kasumbalesa border in Chililabombwe. Uniquely is the frozen fish imported from China via Namibia that is a hot cake at Kasumbalesa border. As soon as refrigerated trucks arrive from Windhoek via Lusaka, DRC wholesale traders buy bulk in wheelbarrow or bicycles to go resale into DRC to as far as Kinshasa.

From the DRC side, its mostly Copper exports though now after Zambia’s northern circuits roads were fixed, from about 2017 they mostly use the pedicle route into Mansa border to Nakonde then Dar.

Very little is imported out of DRC into Zambia for consumption via Kasumbalesa border. It’s mostly Copper trucks destined for the Durban port.

By banning some products at its border, DRC is playing illegal economics politics with Zambia. We however did not need to hit back and close the borders. Diplomatic dialogue is the best solution and always wins.

Closed borders into DRC will indirectly lead to less traffic at both Chirundu and Nakonde borders and our duty revenue will slump. Just a day loss of this revenue will shake our treasury.

Tax revenue is already a challenge and we can’t afford to lose income from goods and services passing through Zambia to DRC.

DRC and Zambia are both members of SADC and protocals do not allow banning of any commodity trading as DRC has done. This more so at a time the Africa Union-AU is pushing for the the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) that has to create a single continental market for goods and services in Africa.

Zambia is a signatory to SADC & COMESA trade agreements therein do not allow banning of any member Country’s products. Todate despite complaints from local farmers, Tomatoes and Onion from SA are still found on shelves inside ShopRite supermarket found everywhere in  Zambia.

So where has DRC (a members of both SADC & COMESA) got the guts from to ban beverages made in Zambia?

The faster politicians on either side dialogue, the better for the entire region. Zambia should engage the SADC (President EDM) and COMESA (President HH..I think) Chairpersons to intervene urgently.

Even SADC’s Troika ( Committee for 3 Heads of State) on conflict resolution should be triggered to get involved immediately.

The Pan Africa Parliament where I am a member is on recess now otherwise I would have lobbied majority SADC MPs to raise a Motion against DRC trade restrictions on Zambia. I will however still engage the Parliament President (Zimbabwean) to alert him of this rather unfortunate DRC inter trade ‘misconduct’.

GPZ Opposes Inclusion of District Commissioners in CDF Committees

GPZ Opposes Inclusion of District  Commissioners in CDF Committees

THE GOLDEN PARTY of Zambia (GPZ) strongly opposes President Hakainde Hichilema’s move to include District Commissioners (DCs) in Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committees as the move will create more red tape.

The power to decide on developmental projects should lie with the local people in the wards and not with the DCs who may have ulterior political motives as such it is not necessary to include DCs in the CDF committees as being directed by President Hichilema.

We as a Party (GPZ) are taken aback that the head of state want his political carders in (DCs) to seat in CDF committees, to this effect we would  like to underline this point that, it is important for the allocation of CDF funds to be fair and transparent, and allowing DCs to be part of the CDF committee will only hinder the process to be driven by the local people on the ground.

“The decision to direct that DCs be part of the approving committee will only serve to lengthen the already cumbersome approval process, Thereby further delaying the much-needed development in our constituencies.

Every well meaning Zambian will agree with us to ask these questioning, What will be happening in districts that have more than two constituencies and all the committee are seating at the same time, will the DC be dividing him or herself?

Or the committees will be waiting since DCs are usually busy with other engagements going by the nature of their offices.

The other question we are posing is,  Will the DC seat in the CDF committee as a mere member bearing in mind there is already a CDF committee Chairperson, what value will the DCs really bring in these committees and what will the DC add technically in the CDF committee?

We have no doubt the decision by President Hichilema is a clear attempt to politicize CDF and undermine the authority of the CDF committees because District Commissioners that are serving now are politicians picked from the UPND party set up and including them in the CDF they will definitely be bias in the approval of the projects.

There is a likelihood of favoring certain areas or groupings as seen by their acts currently were they are the ones coming up with special lists of persons to be recruited in the defense and security wings in the districts.

We have numerous complaints even other employment opportunities in these districts were DCs take their special lists for persons to be employed case to pin point is the Census enumeration exercise were DCs were busy advancing lists of their own children, relatives and close friends for consideration.

“AS a party we urge Government to simplify the process and release the CDF funds in one lump sum and amend the act to remove unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles that are slowing down the disbursement and implementation process unlike putting more red tape in the funds.”

“As appointees of the President, DCs are inherently partisan and cannot be trusted to act impartially in the distribution of CDF funds, as such their inclusion will only serve to confuse the implementation process and create unnecessary conflicts.

As much as we welcome the increment of CDF, the funds have failed to make meaningful impact on the ground , hence we are of the view that CDF must be left to the technocrats as opposed to the current setup were only UPND carders are the ones benefiting.

Being a party that believes in promoting  good Governance and wants to see development cascade to benefit the general public, We are worried because in most districts the relationship between (DCs) and the Mayor or council Chairperson is rogue and this has contributed to people not to see meaningful impact of the funds.

WE vehemently oppose the move to include DCs in Constituency Development fund (CDF) committee because it will further breed more confusion and bring more politics in the disbursement and approval of projects.

“District commissioners (DCs) have consistently been used by politicians from the ruling party to further their own personal interests at the expense of the general citizenry, as seen in the selective recruitment of party loyalists, allowing them to meddle in CDF affairs will only perpetuate this trend”

CDF is meant for Constituency Development, not political grandstanding as such we urge president Hichilema and his government to reconsider the move and instead let the committees execute their mandate without any political interference because already most of those in the current committees are from the UPND and are busy amassing wealth by engaging in corruption of awarding themselves CDF contracts and selling bursaries  and loans.

We as a party hasten to implore Government to instead strengthen CDF with technical committees of experts to ensure implementation of CDF benefit the general public and not only aligned UPND carders.

We call on president Hichilema to strengthen the Mayor’s as proposed by the technical committee of 2015/16. CDF committees must remain independent and free from political interference because Development is for all.

Step children cannot inherit says court

Step children cannot inherit says court

By Dickson Jere
A DECEASED left children including a step daughter who is the child of his wife. The deceased had five children from his first marriage but later remarried another woman who came with her child named Rebecca.

It was contended that the step daughter cannot inherit from the estate of the deceased because her biological father was alive and that she was not formally adopted by the deceased to be his child.

The matter went to the High Court for determination. The Judge ruled that the step daughter can and should inherit part of the estate of the deceased. This Judgment prompted an appeal in the Court of Court.

A panel or three Judges analysed the case and concluded that the law does not provide for the step children to inherit from the estate of their step parents unless they were formally adopted.

“There is no evidence adduced to show that Rebecca as adopted by the deceased for purposes of being classified as a beneficiary of the deceased estate,” the Judges observed.

“Therefore, she does not come anywhere near being a child of the deceased,” the Judges ruled and reversed the High Court Judgment that had allowed the stepchild to benefit.

The Court of Appeal further clarified that the law only provides for the children of the deceased, including those born out of wedlock as well as those adopted or conceived but not yet born.

“It is not in issue, that the child in issue was born prior to the marriage between the Appellant and the deceased, and from another man, who is said to be alive,” the Judges observed.

“The closest she comes to be a beneficiary of the estate is, if she was dependent of the deceased,” the Court said but concluded that she did not meet the threshold of being a dependent as she was about 27 years old.

“We substitute it with the holding that Rebecca is not a beneficiary entitled to the share of the deceased because she is not a child or dependent of the deceased,” the Court ruled.

The Court concluded and ordered that the stepchild should not benefit from the deceased of the late stepfather.

Case citation – Clara Chimfwembe v Hellen Chimfwembe CAZ 015/2021 and Judgement passed last week in the Court of Appeal.

A very interesting case which bring out the requirement of formal adoption of children instead of relying on the African style of taking care of stepchildren without the due legal process.

Examining the Shadows: A Critical Analysis of UPND’s Three-Year Track Record- Dr Mwelwa

Examining the Shadows: A Critical Analysis of UPND’s Three-Year Track Record

By Dr Mwelwa

The United Party for National Development (UPND) administration in Zambia has touted a series of achievements over the past three years. However, a closer inspection reveals a tangled web of underlying issues that raise questions about the sustainability, ethical considerations, and long-term impact of these so-called victories.

Beginning with the employment of 75,000 public service workers, while this move certainly injects vigor into the public sector, it simultaneously inflates the wage bill by a staggering K9 billion annually. This exacerbates the country’s fiscal challenges, particularly against the backdrop of dwindling mineral royalties and a Zambia Revenue Authority struggling with under-collections. One might argue that without concrete fiscal reforms and improved revenue collection, these jobs could become a financial albatross around the nation’s neck.

Next, the restructuring of $9.8 billion in external debt ostensibly provides more capital for social sector investments. However, this decision essentially kicks the can down the road, deferring the problem to future generations who will grapple with inflated interest payments. The reshuffling of debt may provide short-term relief but poses significant long-term financial risks that could confine Zambia to an endless cycle of borrowing.

The case of Mopani Copper Mine acquiring a new equity partner and the Zambian government raising its stake to 49% is emblematic of another concern. Although this move is said to rejuvenate jobs and economic activities, it appears that the mine was undervalued—sold for what many consider a pittance. This raises questions about the deal’s transparency and the potential loss of a pivotal national asset at a bargain price.

Kitwe and Mufulira councils recently managed to eliminate all statutory arrears following Mopani’s payments, purportedly improving service delivery. Yet, this improvement seems superficial without establishing a sustainable revenue stream to maintain these benefits. The temporary windfall may prompt immediate service enhancements, but without ongoing financial health, the risk of reverting into arrears is high.

The transition of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) from courtroom battles to boardroom negotiations led to a $250 million release for settling debts and enhancing community contributions, along with a 20% salary increment for workers. Despite these apparently positive developments, underlying issues like diminished copper production continue to plague the enterprise. The persistence of these problems diminishes the overall impact and casts a shadow on the effectiveness of recent interventions.

First Quantum Minerals (FQM) announced a $1.3 billion capital reinvestment in the Kasanshi Mine, an investment touted as the first in seven years. While this may seem promising, one must question why seven years lapsed without prior investment and whether this influx of capital will be prudently managed or squandered. Additionally, the commissioning of Africa’s largest nickel mine by FQM creates 930 local jobs and begins commercial ore mining, yet the broader question of environmental sustainability and equitable benefit distribution remains unaddressed.

The $1.3 billion reinvestment in Shaft 28 in Luanshya, a site dormant for over 20 years, and the dewatering process initiation align with the UPND’s narrative of employment booms. However, this development also raises concerns about the economic feasibility and environmental implications of kickstarting long-dormant projects. Similar doubts loom over the future of Mingomba Copper Mine, despite the allure of an initial $2 billion investment.

Infrastructure projects like the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway and Chingola-Chililabombwe-Kasumbalesa road under the PPP financing model are hailed as job-creating ventures. However, while 3,000 jobs emerge from the Lusaka-Ndola project, the cut in the project’s funding from $1.2 billion to $650 million raises alarms about the quality and longevity of the project.

On the front of energy and sustainability, the commencement of projects like the 500MW solar power plant in Ngabwe and the 100MW solar plant in Chamuka area, along with policy revisions to include net metering and the open access policy, are steps forward. Nonetheless, changes driven primarily by fiscal pressures rather than genuine commitments to sustainability might not hold under incoming administrations.

Even culturally inclusive moves, such as inviting various traditional leaders as Guests of Honor at ceremonies, are mired in optics rather than substantive unity-building. These gestures may resonate symbolically but lack a tangible impact on deep-seated cultural and regional disparities.

In conclusion, while the UPND government’s three-year track record includes numerous initiatives, each of these accomplishments carries significant caveats. The immediate gains are often overshadowed by long-term financial burden, questionable transparency, and sustainability issues. Moving forward, it is imperative to scrutinize these headline achievements rigorously to ensure they genuinely benefit the Zambian populace without mortgaging the country’s future for short-term political gains.

“Unpacking the Controversy: Government’s Acquisition of ZAMBEEF’s Chiawa Estate Raises Questions Over Business vs. National Interest”- Sensio Banda

“Unpacking the Controversy: Government’s Acquisition of ZAMBEEF’s Chiawa Estate Raises Questions Over Business vs. National Interest”

In the latest update, the Government of Zambia has purchased 8000 hectares of land from ZAMBEEF’s Chiawa Estate for a whopping 13.5 million dollars. The real concern is whether the government’s decision truly benefits the nation or is a thinly disguised business deal.

It is acknowledged that the government may need to intervene during crises like the current drought in Zambia. However, is the UPND government truly focused on resolving the country’s drought issue, or is there a hidden motive to capitalize on the situation for personal benefit?

In Zambia, there are over 14 proposed and established farming blocks, including Simango, Solwezi, Luena, Luswishi, Kalumwange, Masonde, Mbesuma, Mansha, and Nansanga. Each of these farming blocks is estimated at 100,000 hectares. Additionally, there are Chikumbilo and Chongwe farming blocks, which are estimated at 45,000 hectares and 50,000 hectares, respectively. However, many of these farming blocks have struggled to thrive due to a lack of crucial infrastructure such as roads, communication networks, market access, and agricultural expertise services. Instead of acquiring new land from a private entity, shouldn’t the government focus on developing these existing farming blocks?

It is baffling how Rwanda and Burundi received 10,000 hectares of land each as a gift, yet Zambia chose to buy land from a private corporation. If the government genuinely prioritized the country’s well-being, they would have allocated land to ZNC and ZCS in easily accessible farming blocks and utilized the $13.5 million to benefit a larger portion of the population.

I am incredibly concerned about the lack of transparency and stakeholder engagement in this land acquisition agreement. Without any consultation or communication with important stakeholders beforehand, it appears that this decision was made in the personal interest rather than the benefit of Zambians.  Who stands to benefit more from this transaction – the government or private entities? If the corporate veil is pierced, who could potentially benefit from this deal? Your guess is as good as mine.

It is imperative to analyze the winners and losers in the contentious Chiawa acquisition deal. While ZAMBEEF stands to gain from the sale of the Chiawa Estate, it is crucial to consider if the Zambian people will truly benefit in the end. Will this deal only benefit a few individuals, or will it lead to widespread advantages for the majority of citizens?

We, as citizens, must demand accountability from our government and ensure that their decisions prioritize the nation’s best interests. Transparency, consultation, and sustainability must be central to all government actions, especially regarding crucial matters of national development.

The controversy surrounding the government’s acquisition of ZAMBEEF’s Chiawa Estate raises significant questions about where our priorities lie as a nation. While it is crucial to address the country’s drought situation, it is equally important to ensure that these interventions are carried out with transparency, accountability, and the long-term interests of the people in mind. As Zambian citizens, we must continue to scrutinize and question government actions to ensure that they truly serve the national interest and not just the interests of a few. Let us hold our leaders accountable and strive for a more sustainable and equitable future for all.

3 YEARS OF UPND IN OFFICE, A DANGEROUS PATH TO GOVERNANCE  – KALABA

3 YEARS OF UPND IN OFFICE, A DANGEROUS PATH TO GOVERNANCE  – KALABA

Exactly three years ago today on August 12, 2021, 2.8 million Zambians voted for change of Government based on the charming and flowery promises by the UPND party then in opposition.

Three years down the line, it’s important to look back and examine whether the UPND is living up to its campaign promises.
In the area of fighting graft, two years to another potential change of Government, it has become very clear and the signs are overwhelmingly indicating that the UPND’s promise to fight and end corruption was a mere hoax.

The administration has exhibited more appetite for corruption than it has shown the will to fight the scourge.

Today, the UPND Government under President Hakainde Hichilema is awash with corruption scandals such as those witnessed at the Ministry of Health, ZAMMSA, ACC, State Chambers and the Ministry of Defense, to mention but a few. State institutions such as NAPSA and ZCCM -IH have become a subject of abuse as they have been forced into questionable deals and transactions without the oversight and approval of Parliament.

As a result, these institutions have facilitated  questionable deals such as the Ndola duo carriage way, the return of VEDANTA at KCM, and now the  Zambeef farm saga, among other dubious deals.

Furthermore, ACC recently confirmed that they were investigating a number of Ministers for graft, confirming concerns about how endemic and deeply rooted the scourge of corruption has become under the UPND administration. Unfortunately, all corruption suspects are still serving in their portfolios, thereby posing a risk to undermining efforts by the investigative wings.

Gravely, the recent Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) report gave startling revelations involving more than K13 billion externalisation of financial resources through suspicious transactions within a year. This is a major threat to our national resources and the UPND administration is showing no concern whatsoever.

When we review the promise to promote the rule of law,  there is nothing much to talk about as the Church, LAZ, CSOs and other stakeholders have raised concern about the fast shrinking of the democratic space. The nation has continued to witness the arrest of opposition leaders with impunity. This is against Mr. Hichilema’s promise to ensure no suspect is kept in Police custody beyond 24 hrs after being arrested for bailable offenses.

Ironically, those in government who are suspected to have committed criminal activities seem to be enjoying special protection. For example, we have some of Mr. Hichilema’s right hand men who were named in the alleged abduction of the now fugitive Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Jay Banda, who have never been questioned by Police.

On the issue of tribalism, President Hichilema decried tribalism during the PF regime and promised an inclusive Government. Sadly, the last three years of the UPND administration has witnessed an alarming increase to tribal purging and regional appointments in Government, Boards and foreign service and there is no end in sight to the ugly reality of tribal discrimination.

Under the UPND administration, the economic woes have moved from bad to worse due to a clear lack of vision to turn around the economy. Empowerment efforts they promised in many sectors including mining, seem to be more in favour of foreigners at the expense of locals. Mr. Hichilema has embarked on a dangerous path to donate our land to foreign Governments including Dubai, Kenya and Rwanda. At this rate, there might not be any land left for our future generations.

Improving the living conditions of Zambians by lowering the cost of goods and services remains a distant far cry. The promise they made to reduce the cost of mealie meal to K50, fuel K12/liter, fertilizer at K250 and ending loadshedding, have all become but a mockery to the Zambian voters.

Perhaps the only thing to their credit after three years in power, is the implementation of free education, increasing the CDF quantum to  more than K 30 million per constituency and the re-introduction of meal allowances in high institutions of learning.

Based on the foregoing, it’s very evident that entrusting the UPND Government with national affairs was a risk choice and results are there for everyone to see. The nation is more divided than ever before, poverty levels are on the increase and there is no end in insight to the high cost of living after three years of the UPND in power.

Saboi Imboela moved to Lusaka correctional facilities after being sent behind Bars for 11 Days because of missing Court session

Saboi kisses freedom goodbye!

A SMILEY Saboi Imboela distributed flying kisses to journalists and the public as she boarded the infamous Kasalanga Truck enroute to prison yesterday.

The former musician will spend the next seven days in incarceration following her arrest last Friday on bench warrant.

Without appointment or sort of application, Saboi who has retained the services of Makebi Zulu Advocates appeared at the Lusaka Magistrates Court yesterday hoping to get principal resident magistrate Sylvia Munyinya to quash the bench warrant.

Things could however not go out as planned, as magistrate Munyinya was not ready for Saboi and declined to attend to her on reasons that her case was not cause listed for August 12 but August 20.

Last week Wednesday, magistrate Munyinya issued a bench warrant against Saboi for absconding Court in a matter where she is Che with libel.

Saboi is accused of defaming State House chief communications specialist Clayson Hamasaka when she alleged that he had engaged in corruption dealings with Chinese nationals and that he was a ladies man whose marriage was on rocks and was at the verge of being divorced by his wife for being promiscuous.

When the case was called for return of bench warrant by prosecutor Ngenda, magistrate Munyinya wondered why Saboi was appearing before her yesterday without an appointment.

“I don’t have the case record before me, can we follow procedure! As far as I am concerned the matter is coming on the 20th and not today. The matter has been causelisted for that date, the record will be brought when the matter will come before me,” she said.

Without making an application for an abridgment of time so that his client could be attended to, Saboi’s lawyer Emmanuel Phiri rose to explain why the singer missed Court.

“We have this urgent issue, when the matter came up she wasn’t feeling too well she rushed to the clinic,” Phiri said.

The conduct by Phiri upset magistrate Munyinya who interjected before he could finish explaining, to scold him for flouting procedural rules.

“You want to give evidence from the bar as counsel? You want to take oath? An explanation has to be given on oath by the accused, I only attend to matters that are causelisted,” she said.

She was incensed with Phiri’s audacity to address her without filing a formal application for abridgment of time.

“There’s no application to bridge the date how are you addressing me! You need to make an application for an abridgment of time and I have to allow it and give a date for you to address me and then the registry will pull the record on that date,” said magistrate Munyinya.

“Do what the law requires you to do, let’s follow procedure. You are coming here to do what? to make an application off record! so that I can make an order off record? It doesn’t work like that I will not allow it can we follow procedure. Let the matter come on the 20th.”

After the session, members of the UKA group had their faces dropped, upon learning that their outspoken comrade will remain spend at least a week behind bars.

The members congested the holding cells to bid hello to Saboi for 10 minutes, before they could leave to offer solidarity to Socialist party leader Dr Fred M’membe at Ibex Hill police station.

As she was boarding the prison truck locally known as Kasalanga, Saboi embraced confinement with a smile and kisses in the air a mask properly worn for the cameras.

The signer waved goodbye to the journalists who were filming her through a tiny window.

UMODZI KUM’MAWA CONDEMNS UPND’S 3-YEAR RULE AND URGES CHANGE GOING FORWARD

The Kum’awa Development Coalition, representing the inhabitants of Eastern Province under Umodzi Kum’mawa, wishes to congratulate the UPND for their three-year tenure and wishes them success in their final two years in office. However, KDC would like to express disappointment with President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government for failing to rule under the National Framework of “One Zambia, One Nation”.

In this three years, the coalition has come to conclude that the New Dawn Government has made regionalism and tribalism more visible by continuously harassing, persecuting and arresting some known Easterners such Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba, Mr. Andrew Kamanga, Mrs. Esther Lungu, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, Hon. Emmanuel Jay Banda, Hon Munir Zulu, Mr. Kaizer Zulu and others. This makes the coalition feel that, under this government, Easterners are on the top most wanted or targeted list!

We are also want to register our concerns which stem from allegations of rampant corruption, irregularities in the FIC report, and the shrinking democratic space under the UPND administration. Notably, opposition parties are denied the right to hold rallies, as exemplified by the incidents involving The Socialist Party and the Citizen First Party regards the Samfya Rally. The rising trend of unwarranted arrests of dissenters further highlights the diminishing democratic values in Zambia.

The stifling of democracy and increased political tensions have resulted in a challenging environment for opposition leaders and individuals expressing alternative viewpoints. Acknowledging the admission by Mr. Cornelius Mweetwa regarding sponsoring confusion to weaken the Patriotic Front, we call for a transformation in Zambian politics to restore faith in governance in the last remaining two years of UPND.

In the spirit of One Zambia, One Nation, the people of Eastern Province and all Zambians yearn for a change that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in the political landscape. Zambia is for all Zambians, pride and free people including Easterners!

OUR THREE YEAR JOURNEY OF NEW HOPE UNDER PRESIDENT HICHILEMA AND HIS TEAM – UPND SG BATUKE IMENDA

UPND SECRETARY GENERAL BATUKE IMENDA MEDIA STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

13th August 2024

OUR THREE YEAR JOURNEY OF NEW HOPE UNDER PRESIDENT HICHILEMA AND HIS TEAM

Country men and Women ,

12th August 2024 marks exactly 3 years of our people’s power from the time Zambians made a decision through the ballot to change for the better Zambia on 12th August 2021.

Firstly , it is important for us to thank the people of Zambia for electing us and allowing us to run the country peacefully , devoid of thuggery behavior ,and bloodshed .

We know that the three years have not been without challenges . We have experienced a drought, which has created serious loadshedding, leading to suffering of some of our brothers dealing in welding, hair business , and others . The drought has created a serious hunger situation arising from destroyed crop there by pushing the cost of food price up . We have also suffered effects of war in the Middle East  which have a bearing on the rising world cost of living , among other external shocks such as the huge debt mountain we inherited and promised to restructure.

Regardless of all this , we have scored on most of the promises  we made to the electorates in 2021 . But most importantly , allow me to draw your attention to  some of the things we have achieved in this short period arising from our campaign messages before we assumed leadership.

When President Hakainde Hichilema and the rest of the UPND members were campaigning, the following key messages resonated with the people of Zambia :

1. Free education
2. Revamping the mining sector
3. Increasing CDF to over a million dollar
4. paying civil servants on time
5. reinstatement of students meal allowances
6. improving the agricultural sector
7. Investing in alternative source of power or energy
8. Unlocking Zambia as a potential tourist destination
9. Restructuring the debt
10. Reversing the liquidation process
11. restoring the rule of law
12. ending carderism in markets and bus stations
13. Uniting the country by coming up with a cabinet which represents all the 10 regions in Zambia
14. unlocking  the PF wage freeze and employment freeze
15. resolving Domestic debt owed to thousands of suppliers
16. End over 3000 ghost workers in the civil service
17. fighting corruption in the past , present and the future
18. Restore budget credibility
19. reduce the cost of living
20. reduce inflation to single digit
21. reduce the cost of doing business
22. Pass and sign  access to information bill into law
23. institutional and judicial reforms
24. and above all take Zambia into the premier league economically.

ANALYSIS OF OUR JOURNEY SO FAR

Fellow citizens, among the things we promised during the campaigns , we are proud to announce that :

1. Free education is a reality and we have so far on aggregate close to 10million pupils in school from the 5 million we found in 2021 . In addition to free education, we have build more than 1000 classroom blocks under CDF across the country. We have also bought more than 1.5million desks in various schools across the country under the same CDF .

2. Allow me to also state that we are now happy to have restructured the debt making , Zambia the first country under the G20 framework to have succeeded in restructuring the debt with creditors accepting to give Zambia an extended credit period which will create enough relief for the country to restore the economy .

3. It is also important to inform the country that we have managed to recruit over 39,000 teachers  and over 14,000 health workers in the past two years . This is a milestone and all of us know that it has never happened since independence.

4. It is with so much joy that we have also managed to clinch an investment deal with Mopani Mine attracting an investment of over $1.3 million . Government has also managed to secure 49 percent holding in this mine , which is a serious investment for the country.
As a result of this mine , the local authorities in Kitwe were paid K87 million owed and this money was used to pay retired council workers .

In addition to this payment, government has collected in taxes over K250million from the time the investor took over the mine this year , 2024.

In addition to revamping Mopani , we now have KCM back and running , having also paid the creditors their money.

You may recall that bringing back KCM is one of the campaign messages we gave to the people of Zambia during the campaigns.

We have also managed   to attract more investment with Shaft 28 coming back in Luanshya and Kalumbila Mine and Lumwana investing more than $4million for expansion works in two years. These expansions will result in more jobs for our people and more taxes to finance free education, increase CDF and buy medicine in hospitals.

5. As promised during the campaign, we are proud to announce that we have managed to restore budget credibility and we can now spend within the budget line .

6. As promised during the campaigns , Student allowances which were scrapped off by PF  have also been reinstated and extended to 7 more universities.

7. Critical to the development of agriculture , we have managed to commence training citizens in free skills training in general agriculture under the CDF programme.

Further , we have commenced empowerment of 17,000 farmers announced early this year with irrigation equipment given the drought that ravaged  the country.

We have  also introduced credit facilities under agriculture with the first one being over K30million which was disbursed last season . This credit facility has attracted the civil servants and many other citizens from different walks of life .

We have further continued to empower citizens in various agricultural activities under the CEEC , and we have so far empowered over 3000 small
Scale farmers .

Additionally  , government has managed attract a fertilizer manufacturing plant investment amounting to $138million built in Lusaka . This plant will produce 300,000 metric tons of Urea and 700,000 metric tons of D-compound once at full capacity.

8. It is also important for us to indicate that as promised during the campaigns , no media house has been closed under the UPND .
President Hakainde Hichilema has continued to give the message of hope to the press to self-regulate . This is a milestone for our brothers and sisters in the media .

9. Most importantly, we also improved allocation towards CEEC to over K365million benefiting so far over 2,800 citizens from the PF’s K41million in 2021 in which they only disbursed about k10million .

11. In terms of institutional and law reforms , the UPND government has passed 96 Bills in parliament and over 500 statutory instruments which is also a huge improvement for our law development.

Further , we have managed to create the Commission to regulate mining in Zambia , and  through the cabinet,  we have passed  a policy that for supplies in the mines below k25million , all
of them shall be given to Zambian contractors. This is good news for Zambian contractors to grow and become more competitive .

It is also important to note that we have removed the defamation of the President from the penal code cap.  87 of the laws of Zambia . We have also repealed the death sentence clause from our legislation . What this means is that no citizen will be sentenced to death in Zambia moving forward .

12. For our brothers and sisters in government , we are proud to announce that , our campaign messages to council workers that we would clear their 7-15months salary arrears accrued under the PF are now a reality. We have managed to walk the talk even in this area .

We have further restored order in the council and now council workers can collect levies in markets and bus stations which were subjected to carders under the PF .

13. Today , we are even able to control carders such that no carders are brandishing unregistered guns and machetes anymore . We shall
continue to work towards the restoration of order and the rule of law .

14. In terms of the cost of mealie meal , understanding the challenges our citizens go through , government has taken initiative to strengthen Zambia National Service (ZNS) by ensuring it becomes a beacon of food security in Zambia .

To this effect , K1million was released by government in 2022 conduct audit of farm blocks across the country and many have so far started operations under the ZNS administration. ZNS  has also introduced more quasi department which have invested in Security Services , construction , Milling, Manufacturing and textiles , to mention but a few which shall create jobs for our people .

15. In terms of the private sector, government has managed to create over 13,000 jobs in the private manufacturing sector alone , among the other over 10,000 jobs created in various sectors which include  , the hospitality industry, tourism , and transport sector.

16. It should also be noted that in the defence , over 4500 youths have been recruited plus over 3000 recruited Zambians under Local Government .

17. Under skills training , over 65,000 citizens have so far been trained in carpentry , welding , farming, aquaculture and bricklaying  at government expense .

18. In terms of the fight against corruption, we have witnessed unprecedented improvements with the Transparency International rating an improvement by 4points which is good for our country. The improvement has been attributed to the recovery of stolen properties , money and the establishment of the fast -track court which has made it easy for financial crimes to be tried speedily .About 4 convictions have so far been secured too .

19. In resolving the energy crisis , the UPND government has passed a policy to allow citizens to earn a living in supplying power through Solar to ZESCO , in addition to the liberalized energy sector which has allowed for the commissioning of over 60Megawatts of a plant in Ndola under the CEC and an extra 105 megawatts coming up in Ndola , plus the 150megawatts coming in Western Province. These initiatives will also create  jobs for our people and increase the number of taxpayers, apart from addressing the energy crisis  alone.

It is also important to re-emphasize that our 3 year journey has not been without challenges especially after the worst drought ravaged our agricultural sector which has made government adjust the budget for 2024.

President Hcihilema and his team  must be commended for responding so promptly to the drought situation by  declaring the  drought as a disaster.

We are also aware that the cost of living is still high given the war situation in the Middle East which has pushed the cost of fuel in the world high , and created economic stress the whole world leaving some countries in massive protests .

Regardless of these challenges, Zambia has emerged victorious in growing the GDP , FDI , recruitment of youths , job creation , increasing CDF to K30.6million and disbursement of grants to citizens under the CEEC and CDF .

The UPND government has created a  resilient economy which has remained unshaken amid the world economic challenges, with the price of basic necessities marginally going up  compared to other countries in Southern Africa and Africa as a whole . We have confidence that the UPND New Dawn government will turn round the economy in the same manner we have managed to fulfil other campaign promises and recovered stolen assets amounting to over $53.6million , and revamping the mining sector .

In conclusion , I want to call upon all well – meaning Zambians to join the UPND as it is the only party giving hope to citizens. For those wanting to join the UPND , we urge them to visit the UPND Secretariat in their respective towns and districts. Where you face challenges , call Ms Lucy Maliwa on +260 97 1009979

CONFRONT CHALLENGES AND RESPONSIBILITIES THAT COME WITH AI, MUCHIMA URGES HEALTH EXPERTS.

13/08/24

Health Minister Dr. Elijah Muchima has urged health professionals to confront challenges and responsibilities that come with the Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Dr Muchima observes that Artificial Intelligence is not merely a technological advancement, but a paradigm shift that offers unparalleled opportunities for enhancing healthcare delivery, improving patient outcomes, and optimizing health systems.

Speaking when he officially opened the 26th Annual Conference of the Association of Medical Council of Africa (AMCOA) 2024 hosted by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) under the theme: “Regulation in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” Dr. Muchima observed that as health professionals embrace the AI advancements, they must also confront the challenges and responsibilities that come with them.

Dr Muchima says the AMCOA 2024 conference holds profound significance as health professionals embarks on a journey to explore the theme of “regulation in the era of artificial intelligence.”

He observes that AI has the potential to revolutionize the medical field in remarkable ways, from predictive analytics that foresee health trends and individual patient needs, to diagnostic tools that enhance precision and reduce human error, adding that the possibilities are boundless.

Dr Muchima further observes that the AI potential benefits are enormous and can transform the healthcare landscape across our continent.

He however says integrating AI into healthcare systems comes with significant challenges.

Dr Muchima explains that the regulatory frameworks that are established must ensure that the technologies are safe, ethical, and equitable.

He observes the need to address issues such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the need for transparency.
Dr. Muchima adds that the potential for AI to inadvertently perpetuate existing inequalities in healthcare, must be carefully managed, to ensure that the advancements serve all members of society equitably.

The health minister says the effective regulation is crucial in this new era as the goal is not to stifle innovation, but to ensure that it progresses in a manner that prioritizes patient safety, ethical standards, and professional integrity.

Dr Muchima says the role of medical councils is to develop and enforce guidelines that address the unique challenges posed by AI, ensuring that technology is harnessed for the greater good.

To achieve this, Dr. Muchima observes the need to foster collaboration among governments, healthcare providers, technologists, and regulators.

He says there is need to engage in ongoing dialogue to understand and address the emerging issues related to AI, adding that the conference is a critical platform for sharing knowledge, discussing best practices, and developing strategies to navigate this complex landscape.

Dr Muchima explains that the Zambian Government is committed to leveraging AI to enhance the healthcare system, while ensuring rigorous standards of practice and regulation.

He says government is working diligently to incorporate AI technologies in a way that respects the values and serves Zambian people.

Dr Muchima observes that it is through collaborative efforts that the country will build a framework that ensures AI advancements are integrated safely and effectively.

The 81-year-old shocked the world when he revealed, via a letter posted to his X account, that he would not be seeking re-election for a second term and, instead, would be endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to stand against Donald Trump.

It followed weeks of increasingly public pressure from top Democrats including former President Barack Obama — to drop out of the race, amid concerns about his age and mental fitness following the disastrous June 27 debate

Biden appeared in an interview with CBS News’ Bob Costa on Sunday, August 11 in his first interview since he chose not to run for re-election.

During the interview, Biden revealed that pressure from fellow Democrats contributed to his decision.

The 81-year-old also notably name-dropped former house speaker Nancy Pelosi, with the two having not spoken for some time.

“Look, polls we had showed it was a neck-and-neck race, it would have been down to the wire,” he said.

“A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in the races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic, you’d be interviewing me about why did Nancy Pelosi say -why did - and I thought it’d be a real distraction,” he said.

“Number two, when I ran the first time, I thought of myself as being a transition President. I can’t even say how old I am — it’s hard for me to get out of my mouth, and uh, but things got moving so quickly it didn’t happen.

And the combination was, that I thought it was the critical issue for me still is, not a joke, maintaining this democracy.

“But I thought it was important because although I, it’s a great honour being President, I think I have an obligation to the country to do what I, the most important thing you can do, and that is we must, we must, we must defeat Trump.”

Biden, who has kept a low profile since dropping out, also suggested during the CBS interview there may not be a peaceful transfer of power in January 2025.

“If Trump wins, no I’m not confident at all,” he said, before correcting himself.

“I mean if Trump loses, I’m not confident at all. He means what he says, we don’t take him seriously. He means it, all this stuff about, if we lose it’ll be a bloodbath, it’ll be a stolen [election]. Look what they’re trying to do now, in the local election districts where people count the votes. Putting people in place in states that they’re going to count the votes, right? You can’t love your country only when you win.”

Biden claimed that Trump who narrowly survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13 was “a genuine danger to American security”.

“Mark my words, if he wins … watch what happens,” he said.

Billionaire businessman Richard Lugner died on Monday, August 12, just two months after marrying his sixth wife, Simone Reiländer.

The Austrian entrepreneur, known for paying celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Pamela Anderson thousands of dollars to be his date at lavish events, was 91.

He reportedly passed away at his villa in Vienna, according to multiple outlets.

First responders rushed to Lugner’s mansion on Monday but were unable to revive him, The Sun reported.

Austrian chancellor Karl Nehammer mourned Lugner with a touching tribute on Monday, writing on X in a message translated from German to English, “Richard Lugner was a successful entrepreneur and a dazzling personality. An Austrian original who never lost his way. May he rest in peace!”

The late construction tycoon tied the knot with Reiländer, 42, at Vienna City Hall in June.

The couple, who had a 49-year age gap, said “I do” in front of 50 guests and 30 members of the press.

The “House Party” actress alluded to her sex life with Lugner, telling local media after their wedding that they “had a very long wedding night. Longer than the wedding day.”

Lugner was reportedly hospitalized shortly after their nuptials after experiencing crippling back pain, The Sun reported on June 21. He blamed the injury on his exercise bike and had to get daily numbing injections from a pain therapy specialist.

His health continued to decline on July 12 when he was rushed to the Vienna General Hospital due to a ruptured heart valve.

After the health scare, Lugner revealed that his funeral arrangements had been planned and his tombstone was already ordered.

“I wanted to have everything arranged. My heirs should know what to do,” he told reporters at the time.

Lugner recently revealed that Reiländer had fully taken over his business operations.

“My wife wears the pants now. She should support me actively. From now on, we will share my work,” he said, calling her the “sole boss” of his empire.

Lugner’s career took off after he opened Lugner City, the seventh-largest shopping centre in Austria, in 1990 and continued to expand his business from there. He also attempted to run for Austrian president in 1998 and again in 2016.

The high society figure was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016 and underwent radiotherapy to beat the illness in 2017.

Three years later, he was diagnosed with skin cancer and after removing it through surgery, his cancer returned in 2021, leading to another surgical removal.

Donald Trump plans to sue the Justice Department for $100 million

Former US President, Donald Trump plans to sue the Justice Department for $100 million in punitive damages over the execution of a search warrant at his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022, accusing US Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray of having engaged in “malicious political prosecution aimed at affecting an electoral outcome to prevent President Trump from being re-elected.”

The FBI carried out the Aug. 8, 2022, search at Mar-a-Lago that led to the seizure of more than 100 classified documents, according to a 37-count felony indictment later lodged against Trump by special counsel Jack Smith.

Trump, 78, had pleaded not guilty to all charges, which included willful retention of sensitive national defence files as well as conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Trump’s lawyer, Daniel Epstein filed an administrative tort claim against the DOJ arguing that Garland and Wray applied “inconsistent standards” and were guilty of a “clear dereliction of constitutional principles” when approving the search of the Palm Beach, Fla., resort residence of the former president and his family, according to a copy of the claim obtained by The Post.

“Garland and Wray should have never approved a raid and subsequent indictment of President Trump because the well-established protocol with former U.S. presidents is to use non-enforcement means to obtain records of the United States,” Epstein wrote.

“But notwithstanding the fact that the raid should have never occurred, Garland and Wray should have ensured their agents sought consent from President Trump, notified his lawyers, and sought cooperation,” he said.

“Garland and Wray decided to stray from established protocol to injure President Trump,” Epstein added in the memo, which was first reported by Fox News.

The Justice Department has six months to respond to the claim. If after that period no settlement has been reached, the claim moves to federal court.

US District Judge Maryellen Noreika threw the case out last month after determining that Smith had been unconstitutionally appointed.

A woman who kn!fed her ‘sugar daddy’ lover to de@th ‘after he ran out of money’ has been jailed for 25 years.

Lauren Harris, 29, mu¥dered 65-year-old grandfather Mark Wilcox at his seafront home in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, on November 20, 2023, according to Mail Online.

Woman who st@bbed her

It was gathered that she had invited her friends David Webster, 43, and Thomas Whiteley, 33, over for a night of ‘drinking and drug-taking’ but the evening suddenly turned nasty with Harris and Webster attacking Mr Wilcox with a kn!fe and a vodka bottle.

At Mold Crown Court on Monday, they were both handed life sentences for their attack, while the third defendant Whiteley was found not guilty.

Webster told Harris ‘Fing psychopathic bitch. I hope you fing burn in hell, Lauren’ as they were led from the dock.

Mr Wilcox entered a relationship with Harris because he wanted to ‘look after her in his retirement’ and he even moved her into his home in October last year while his estranged wife Marcia Wilcox was still living upstairs.

Woman who st@bbed her

The court heard Mr Wilcox’s ‘generosity of spirit’ had moved him to support Harris as he sought to turn her life around but he started to struggle with his own finances.

Harris was ‘taking advantage’ of the father-of-two and repeatedly borrowed money from him, leading to him withdrawing £12,000 from his bank account in five months.

Marcia moved out in October 2023, because she claimed there was a ‘cycle of shouting and abuse’ when Harris moved in, according to The Sun.

Mr. Justice Pepperall said Harris had committed the crime ‘against the man who had loved and supported you’, before adding ‘I detect no remorse’.

He said Harris took a ‘leading’ role, but said to Webster: ‘You were a willing accomplice in this brutal crime. It was you who bludgeoned your victim with a vodka bottle.’

On the night of the murder, Webster said Harris looked like a ‘crazed animal’ as she attacked Mr Wilcox.

He said: ‘The look in her eyes – her pupils were massive, it was just the speed at which she did it.’

The jury heard that Harris stabbed the retired Ministry of Defence computer expert twice as he sat in his armchair.

In the days before the tragedy she started a new relationship with Webster and they shared a bed. They were described in court as callous ‘partners in crime’ who spent money on drugs.

Harris fled the scene in Mr Wilcox’s red Volvo with her two pals Webster and Whiteley.

Footage captured Harris sitting in the driver’s seat of Mr Wilcox’s car outside his home, shouting ‘come on’ and sounding the horn repeatedly.

Less than a minute after driving away, the car crashed.

Police were later called to a single-vehicle crash on the A55 slip road in Colwyn Bay and the car’s registration number was traced back to Mr Wilcox – who they found lying unconscious in his living room.

The murder trial jury heard how police went to a property in Bay View Road, near the town centre of Colwyn Bay, last November, and Mr Wilcox was discovered in an armchair, stabbed and battered to death.

He had been punched, kicked, and stamped on, and suffered broken ribs.

Harris had used Mr Wilcox’s bank cards at two ATMs in a bid to withdraw cash for drugs.

The judge said the murder may have happened out of anger that the money had dried up.

Mr Justice Pepperall said Webster lied about how he had Mr Wilcox’s watches. ‘The appalling truth is you stole one of the watches from a dying man’s wrist,’ he said.

‘This was a sustained and vicious attack in which you showed Mr Wilcox no mercy,’ Mr Justice Pepperall declared. From his defensive injuries it was clear the victim ‘suffered greatly.’

When she was initially interviewed by police, Harris denied playing any part in his killing and asked murder detectives: ‘Why am I getting nicked?’

The cold-hearted killer blamed Mr Wilcox’s death on her friends Webster and Whiteley.

After asking an officer about Mr Wilcox and ‘if he had died’, Harris added: ‘I’m in here because of what them two have done. It wasn’t me.’

After being told she was being arrested on suspicion of murder, she said: ‘No one’s done anything wrong. What do you mean, murder?

‘I’m not being funny, I don’t know why you’ve pulled me in for this when there are another two people that have done what they’ve done – and you’re pulling me in for the s*** that they’ve done.

‘Why am I getting nicked for it? It doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve done f*** all, anyway.’

Then an officer heard Harris whispering to herself: ‘They’ve killed him, haven’t they?’

Harris did not give evidence in court.

Prosecuting KC Andrew Ford had told jurors that Harris had previous convictions for assault including unlawful wounding in 2022 involving use of a knife against a partner in a block of flats at Old Colwyn.

Mr Ford said the conviction was on the basis she had been defending herself but the force used by her was ‘excessive and unlawful.’ CCTV footage was played to the court.

Footage was also played of assaults by her on men in the centre of Wrexham and Colwyn Bay.

The prosecutor said Harris had a string of additional convictions for theft.

While Harris and Webster were found guilty of the murder of Mr Wilcox, Whiteley of Clos Emlyn, Old Colwyn, was cleared of the killing.

The judge told him: ‘You leave court without any blot on your character.’

Harris and Webster both had a record for violence.

In a family tribute last year, Mr Wilcox, who had no convictions, was described as a ‘really generous person’.

The statement read: ‘He really cared about people. He liked to chat with everyone and would always put others before himself.

‘He was a kind soul who was generous to a fault. Mark also cared greatly for his family. With his sisters, he spent a lot of time travelling down to Cornwall to look after his elderly mother.’

Harris, of no fixed address, was jailed for life with a minimum of 25 years today.

Webster, of Lacey Street, Widnes, Cheshire, who had once worked in the vehicle industry, was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 23 years.
