Warning to ZNBC’s Margret Chisulo; stop M’membe’s Post’s ‘Bemba national language’ rhetoric – P 1

By Austin Mbozi (The Mast)

Dear reader, answer this Grade Seven Special Paper One question: Jose Mourinho is the Special One in soccer coaching; as Austin Mbozi is the Special One in …? Compare your answer with my answer in this article’s last paragraph.

Because ZNBC’s Margret Chisulo ignored my prophetic warning in my book ‘Language Politics in Zambia (2018, pages 52-71), she ended up provoking nation-wide ethnically inclined tensions when she encouraged phone callers using Bemba/Nyanja on an English programme but told off a female Lozi language caller to ‘go to the Lozi language section’.

My book warned Fred M’membe’s Post newspaper of 16 January 2007 against its editorial ‘accept Bemba as a national language’. Comrade M’membe is NOT a tribalist. But this editorial wrongly bullied the Lozi to accept Bemba/Nyanja after their Barotse Royal Established (BRE) banned these languages on the Oblate Radio Liseli based in their province. It described the BRE action as ‘narrow-minded’, ‘irrational’, ‘defies logic’ and [would] ‘chock with frustration and envy’ as this Bemba ‘language of urbanisation’ keeps spreading. Such thinking encourages Margaret Chisulo to admit only ‘national’ Nyanja/Bemba languages.

Yet the ‘narrow-minded’ are the social media Bemba/Nyanja dominance supporters arguing that as a professional presenter Margaret is right to accept only the languages SHE AS AN INDIVIDUAL understands so that she can moderate the discussion properly. Nonsense! What if finance minister Situmbeko Musokotwane or information minister Cornelius Mweetwa go on radio facing a Lozi or Tonga-speaking presenter, entertain Lozi/ Tonga language callers but tell Bemba/Nyanja callers to go to local language sections? Will Margaret Chisulo’s narrow-minded supporters like it when a Luvale ZNBC presenter also allows only Luvale callers and stop non-Luvale ones? Some are blaming the Lozi caller for ‘doing ma setting’ (provocative) by deliberately using Lozi even when she spoke English well. Nonsense! Even the Bemba/Nyanja callers know English, that is why they followed the programme and Margaret replied to them in English. ‘Wena mu’ Lozi! Whenever they call in Bemba/Nyanja on English programmes, call in Lozi en masse. Why? Of course to spread Lozi; making them ‘chock with frustration and envy’ instead of you being the ones ‘chocking’ as M’membe’s Post wanted.

They fantasise Bemba being at English level. My book (page 37) publishes a copy of a letter written in Bemba on a government letter–head dated 20 March 2001 by lands minister Abel Chambeshi to home affairs minister Dr Peter Machungwa over land allocation. Yet these Bemba/Nyanja bullies cannot accept it if current lands minister Elijah Muchima writes in Tonga or Lunda on government letter-head to home affairs minister Jack Mwiiimbu.

And ‘imwe’ (you), especially ‘vima’ PF-minded tribalistic empty-heads who are insinuating that my hero Lozi caller was sent by top Lozi/Tonga UPND leadersm, don’t just insult me while hiding behind social media in fear of me; like a puppy barking at the elephant with its tail pulled between its hind legs in fear while passing pre-mature ordure. Come face me on a live TV debate so that I show even your ‘sweat heart’ that your medulla oblongata (brain) is empty on ethnic matters. On tribal matters, my name is Live-Charcoal-Eater. In short, I am ‘Mulombwana-uulya-masizi-mulilo-ulabuulula’.

My book narrates instances of pro-Bemba language bullying. As a UNZA-93 fresher, I was angered when senior student Innocent Kalebwe, organiser of ‘Kojo Comes to Campus’ drama, justified Bemba dominance because ‘UNZA is an elite institution’ which should not be reduced to using ‘these other languages’. Only the courageous likes of Fred Chilukutu (current Zambia Prisons boss) dared to drama-act entertain us in Ila.

Tonga-speaking radicals emerged, confronting such language bullying by printing T/shirts written ‘Tonga Bull, Notulya’. As a UNZASU presidential candidate in 1994, I condemned them as ‘dividing UNZA’. Now with hindsight, I think they boosted Tonga-speaking self-confidence. Mungule village boys like me and Anold Shantunka transformed from being red-trousers-wearing ‘aishas’ who spoke Tonga-accent Nyanja to avoid being detected as villagers. Some transformed into elite, Gary Nkombo-like ‘Tonga Bulls’, proudly speaking Tonga in town. Others hit the gym, becoming bodily giants like Horrace Makala, Joseph Munsanje (Mbabala MP), James Simasiku (rugby player) etc. And Ananniah Siabbamba challenged Bemba ‘rumpenising’ by ‘rumpenising’ in Tonga. (‘Rumpenising’ was the UNZA comedy of getting drunk into late night and shouting mild ‘obscenities’ in ‘UNZA streets’ by bad boy ‘monks’. But why did we enjoy it more when a ‘rumpen’ attacked the lifestyles of dating ‘chongololos’, ‘bungwes’ ‘momas’ and ‘mojos’? Were we just jealous of them?).

PF founder Michael Sata inspired Bemba language bullying. While addressing a rally IN BEMBA instead of Nyanja in Chawama township as MMD SG, Sata lied that the white Zambian chairman of the breakaway FDD Simon Zukas was un-Zambian because he could not speak Bemba (The Post, 30 May 2001); inciting no-votes for leaders without Bemba competence. On 24 May 2005, Sata/his Bemba callers turned the English ‘Let the People Talk’ programme hosted by Kenneth Maduma (Radio Pheonix) into a Bemba one. On 17 August 2005, Sata’s Bemba speaking callers rejected presenter Anthony Mukwita’s (Radio Pheonix ) pleas that they use English. On Sunday 13 June 2006 PF cadres at the Pamodzi Hotel press conference stopped their leaders’ use of English shouting, ‘awe landeni mu Chibemba’ (use only Bemba). On 3 August 2006 (The Post), Sata as opposition leader confronted President Levy Mwanawasa in Bemba. But when Mwanawasa replied in his mother’s Lamba, Sata mocked him, saying ‘mwalanda ne fitudu’ (you are using inferior/sinister languages).

No wonder HH ‘muchaangu’ had to ‘plead for votes’ by learning Bemba while Chiluba and Sata won in non-Bemba-speaking areas without competence in the regional languages.

Chamisa hails South Africa’s elections as exemplary, calls for ZEC disbandment

Zimbabwe’s main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, has praised South Africa’s recent elections as an “exemplary” model of free and fair elections, drawing comparisons with Zimbabwe’s disputed August 2023 elections.

Speaking at the funeral wake of opposition stalwart, CCC senator and former Harare Central MP, Murisi Zwizwai, Chamisa commended the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa for its professional and accountable approach, contrasting it with the inefficiencies and lack of transparency demonstrated by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Chamisa accused ZEC of being “incompetent and biased” and called for its urgent disbandment, advocating for an independent electoral commission to uphold the integrity of future elections and restore public confidence in the electoral system.

“I must say that there are lessons to be learnt, the key lesson being that institutions that are independent and professional are important for the stability and progress of nations.

“If you look at the conduct of the Independent Electoral Commission, it has been exemplary, professional, integrity, and of course accountability,” said Chamisa.

“There are a lot of challenges when you have such a process, but if you look at it, they were able to answer those concerns. If you compare that with ZEC, you give them your complaints, they don’t answer.

“In fact, what is clear from South Africa is that ZEC must be disbanded and be disbanded urgently; there can never be a proper election with ZEC in this country,” added Chamisa.

Chamisa stated that free, fair, and credible elections are fundamental to a nation’s stability and applauded South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC for accepting the election results, which saw the ruling party fail to garner a majority vote.

“The ANC, I’m sure they have respected the outcome; that’s how we should behave, that’s being exemplary. I want to thank President (Cyril) Ramaphosa and the ANC for giving democracy a chance and for accepting what the people want,” said Chamisa.

Chamisa expressed hope for a stable coalition government in South Africa and reiterated his call for SADC intervention in Zimbabwe’s disputed elections.

“Africa’s time has come. We need to fashion a next dispensation, the next Africa based on democracy, free and fair elections, credible institutions, not this rigging of elections.

“We hope that SADC will play its prominent role in adjudicating the dispute in Zimbabwe because we have not agreed on the issue of the election.

“In fact, it’s not about our agreement; the people of Zimbabwe know that the election was not conclusive in terms of choosing the leader which should be governing this country, hopefully that issue is going to be resolved,” said Chamisa.

Mnangagwa consolidating power through Zanu-PF “cell restructuring exercise”

In a move seen as a bid to consolidate power and eliminate opposition within the ruling Zanu-PF party, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has suspended all internal elections until the completion of an ongoing “restructuring exercise” of cell structures countrywide.

The restructuring exercise, announced by politburo member Mike Bimha, aims to dismantle existing cell structures and set up new ones that are more party-centric rather than aligned to individuals.

A source within the ruling party told Nehanda Radio that the strategy is potentially aligned with Mnangagwa’s plan to extend his term of office beyond 2028.

It is believed that the President wants to amend the constitution to facilitate his plan to hang onto power beyond the 2028 constitutional limit.

The source believes that the G-40 remnants are still present in the party structures, posing a significant threat to Mnangagwa’s ambition.

“The first thing to understand in Zanu-PF is the importance of cell structures. Those are the backbone of the party. If you’re a Zanu-PF leader and you want to consolidate your power, you start with the cells,” the source.

“By reorganising the cell structures, Mnangagwa may be seeking to consolidate his power within the party, ensuring that loyalists are in key positions and potential challengers are sidelined. Remember that the G-40 remnants are still influential within the party itself.

“When we talk about the G-40, we are talking about a faction within Zanu-PF that is opposed to Mnangagwa’s leadership.

“The restructuring exercise could help the current leader to sideline this group and allow him maintain control and pave the way for a potential term extension.”

Bimha stated that the current cell structures served the interests of influential party individuals, leading to disharmony within the party.

“We ended up with fake cells that were not set up through genuine means, with some members smuggled in from elsewhere, causing disharmony within the party,” Bimha said.

The new cell structures will have no limits on membership and will focus on growing the party’s membership base. Bimha urged party organs and structures to welcome members from other political parties.

“We used to have challenges in other provinces where some party leaders barred returning members fearing of losing their positions to them. Our message is the party is not about positions. Let us ensure that these people re-join the party,” he added.

Mnangagwa’s plan to extend his term of office beyond 2028 is fiercely being resisted by his deputy Constantino Chiwenga, a section of the military and other senior Zanu-PF politicians.

Palestine applies to join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at top UN court

0

Palestinian officials have applied at the top U.N. court for permission to join South Africa’s case accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza.

The request published Monday alleges that Israel’s ongoing military operation is “part of a systematic effort to wipe Palestinian society and its culture and social institutions from the map.” The request to the International Court of Justice was made on behalf of the “State of Palestine” and signed by Palestinian Authority foreign ministry official Ammar Hijazi.

South Africa filed its case with the world court late last year accusing Israel of breaching the genocide convention in its military assault that has laid waste to large swaths of Gaza. Israel denies it is committing genocide in its military operation to crush Hamas triggered by the deadly Oct. 7 attacks.

Israel is expanding its offensive in the southern city of Rafah, once the main hub of humanitarian aid operations. The Israeli invasion has largely cut off the flow of food, medicine and other supplies to Palestinians facing widespread hunger.

Israeli bombardments and ground operations in Gaza have killed more than 36,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians.

The court has issued three preliminary orders in the case calling on Israel to do all it can to prevent deaths in the enclave, ramp up humanitarian aid and, most recently, halt its offensive in Rafah.

It is unclear how long the court’s judges will take to rule on the request. If granted, Palestinian officials will be able to address the court in writing and during public hearings.

In their request, the Palestinians said they are directly affected by South Africa’s case against Israel.

“The Israeli onslaught has obliterated and damaged, beyond recognition, Gaza’s hospitals, mosques, churches, universities, schools, homes, shops, and infrastructure, as part of a systematic effort to wipe Palestinian society and its culture and social institutions from the map,” the request says.

The request adds that, Israel is violating the court’s orders and continuing with “its genocidal acts including deliberately and systematically impeding humanitarian aid, resulting in an intentionally engineered situation of starvation and a creeping famine that is increasingly imminent.”

The Palestinians have been to the court before. In 2018, The Palestinian Authority filed a case asking its judges to order Washington to remove the relocated U.S. embassy from Jerusalem. The case followed the decision of the administration of then-U.S. President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and to move the U.S. embassy there from Tel Aviv.

That case remains before the court, where cases can take years to resolve.

The International Court of Justice rules in cases between states. The United Nations General Assembly voted last month to give Palestine some new rights and privileges, but it reaffirmed that it remains a non-member observer state without full U.N. membership and the right to vote in the General Assembly or at any of its conferences.

The United States has made clear that it will block Palestinian membership and statehood until direct negotiations with Israel resolve key issues, including security, boundaries and the future of Jerusalem, and lead to a two-state solution.

MY WIFE CHEATED ON ME WHEN I HAVE GIVEN HER EVERYTHING. I MADE HER LANDLORD AT 23, DRIVES EXPENSIVE CAR AND I TOOK HER TO UNZA

MY WIFE CHEATED ON ME WHEN I HAVE GIVEN HER EVERYTHING. I MADE HER LANDLORD AT 23, DRIVES EXPENSIVE CAR AND I TOOK HER TO UNZA

Rev. Walter Mwambazi shares… ✍🏽

Here is the other side of the coin! #Room18 experiences.

A gentleman whose details I won’t share got in touch with his own experience. Read on and give your take.

===========

Afternoon Reverend,

Just thought of sharing my own experience after your comment on Room 18 Saga. These days Women don’t respect their marriage and bodies. They cheat unprovoked.

I have been married to my wife for 12 years. We are blessed with 4 kids. The youngest just turned 3 years. My wife was entertaining this Man who I later discovered that he is divorced and stays alone. They would call each other 3 – 4 times in a day. Even in the night when I m not home.

Some time in March, I watched / caught my Wife going into a house of this Man.
He picked her from some location after she knocked off from work and drove to his house. We were trailing them with my friend. I got furious. My BP shot up. (Had issues with my BP prior) I was armed. My friend had to stop me from approaching the house after noticing that I got a gun. He had to drive me away & I thank him for that otherwise I would have committed a heinous crime.

After I cooled down we went back but they had since left.

We agreed that we would catch them another time but 3 days later I wasn’t myself. My blood sugar levels and BP were constantly high. I was traumatized. No sleeping, I would sweat a lot in the night. I could feel myself slowly going into a depression. I was in bad shape. I had to visit the Water Tribe Doc. He immediately put me on some medication. It is such a painful experience and I would want anyone to go through that. My Wife noticed that something was bothering me.she kept asking me what was wrong. I could see the guilty in here eyes.

Fearing for my health, I had to let the cat out of the bag. I had to talk to someone. I told her everything I knew about her affair with this divorced man. She did agree with what I said.

She cried a lot that night whilst asking for forgiveness claiming that nothing happened. She has no reasons for doing what she did. Ati it’s just the Devil. They would work together in some projects that’s how they started calling each other and later he asked her to visit which she agreed. She has never caught me with any woman. She is not starving sexually. Just the usual marriage differences.

Rev this is a woman who I have done everything for including paying for her at UNZA to further her education. I made her a landlord at 23. We have a few properties rented out and tenants pay directly to her because I don’t like the tenant drama. She Drives my car a Ford Ranger but she still followed a workmate who drives a Vits.

Later discovered that he was just after her for financial gain and foolishly she gave in. She would send him money using mobile money. Statements are there

Make no mistake, am very good in bed. Were I have been, I leave a mark. Even she confirmed after the family asked her if she had issues to that effect. It’s just a clear case of “Ukankala pa bwino, poipa paitana”

We are in court for the same. I sued the man for adultery. Case is yet to be concluded.

Both my Family and hers are pushing me to forgive her ati for the sake of our children. I cry when I look at my youngest daughter. I really don’t know what to do Reverend. Am squeezed between a hard surface & a hard rock. I have not chased her from home. Just watching her acting so nice but todate I have failed to forgive her. It still pains me especially when I look at her. If you can I need your advice Rev.

What would you say to this gentleman?

AGONY OF HUSBANDS WHO’VE TURNED INTO ‘WIVES’

AGONY OF HUSBANDS WHO’VE TURNED INTO ‘WIVES’

…The harsh reality…

I’m sharing this with permission, but will name no names. He had been a cheerful, energetic man the last time I met him. We chatted for a while and even had a snack and a drink each at a busy eatery in town on my account.

But last week, I was shocked when I bumped into him somewhere at a function within Lusaka. What a pathetic sight. 😭 In a long discussion later, he poured out his broken heart. He explained how his wife had been mistreating him after he lost his job and became broke.

“She doesn’t insult me or deny me food. But her attitude towards me has changed sharply. She doesn’t give me any attention any more. It’s like I don’t even exist. No phone calls, no greetings. If I don’t talk to her or call her, she will not talk to me but will be happily talking to other people and our children,” the man lamented, almost sobbing.

“It’s so painful and annoying. But she’s the one who has been proving for the family as well as paying the rent for over one year now. So I’m stuck bakalamba.”
After a couple of psychosocial counselling sessions, he has accepted the situation and is looking much better.

No man deserves to be treated like that.
My frank advice to my fellow men who are in such situations. No matter how difficult things are, try to earn some little money, even by cleaning up someone’s yard or carrying people’s parcels on your shoulders without shame. Do something for the home.

Even just a loaf of bread or bundles of vegetables. This will send a message to your wife and also give you a sense of self-esteem and hope. Very important.
No woman will respect a broke, jobless husband. It’s the painful reality you don’t have the choice to escape but accept if you are a husband whose wife is now the bread winner in your household because you are either out of employment or just broke to your bone marrow.

I will be frank on this bane, those of you who are going through this. No matter how much she pretends to love and respect you, don’t be fooled, my brother. There’s a 99+ likelihood that she secretly holds you in deep contempt and ridicule. Chances are that she could even be cheating on you with other men big time without any remorse. Of course, there’re some women who will stand with you and still respect you as her husband when you are completely down.

But they’re as rare as a 🐕 dog’s horn. Lusengo lwa mbwa. Very few. I salute you all my sisters who are looking after your broke husbands and still love them and respect them as before. One day kakabalika and you won’t regret. God will reward you big.

But majority women whose husbands are going through rough times because of loss of a source of income or are simply broke don’t love and respect them any more. Some openly disrespect such men, but many will pretend while resenting and deriding their former ‘honey’, even flirting and cheating on him with other men without any scruples. They deride them as good for nothing burdens who don’t even deserve their conjugal rights.

I’ve lived on this loveless earth close to 60 years now and I know these things bane. I deal with grieving jobless, broke husbands regularly and I know the attitude of women towards their struggling or broke hubbies no matter how much they try to pretend. They habour nothing but contempt for and anger at my brothers who are in such unfortunate situations. Even denying them sex for no reason at all.

Remember, they were born and raised in this same society which places the unfair gender role of ‘provider’ on the shoulders of the poor man no matter his circumstances.

My word of encouragement to you, my brothers who are in this unenviable situation is that the wisest thing to do is to keep your eyes and ears wide open and your lips tightly sealed for now.

Use your eyes and ears more than your mouth. But keep a record of your observations and experiences for the future. When God redeems you and you recover – and He surely will – you may need that record to defend your actions.

Otherwise, just hang on and do whatever you can to earn even a ka K50 and bring something home to show that you are only down but not out. Kakabalika. 🙏🙏🙏

Sean Paul’s Wife Responds After Troll Said He’s The Jamaican Drake

Sean Paul’s wife, Jodi Henriques, isn’t here for people comparing her husband to rap superstar Drake.

The Gimmie Di Light hitmaker has been making the rounds following his Tiny Desk concert on Friday, which centered around his most popular dancehall hits.

While most netizens hailed the veteran toaster for making their childhoods fun through his timeless catalog, other users couldn’t help but think of the God’s Plan rapper when they saw Sean Paul.

“SEAN PAUL THE JAMAICAN DRAKE,” user @rio.3xl commented on a post made by The Shaderoom.

Per the likes, more than 1,000 users agreed, igniting a debate in the comments.

“The disrespect 😒,” one user wrote. “Sean Paul is Sean Paul. He was around before Drake even knew what Jamaican culture was.”

Another added, “Na, Sean don’t have ghost writers lol 😂.”

It continued, “This is who Drake thinks he is with the accent.”

As users continued to go back and forth, Henriques caught up with the exchange and particularly resonated with one response.

“No, he’s not,” user @iamprettyprivileged wrote. “Sean Paul raised within the culture his (sic) not a vulture.”

Henriques echoed the statement by directly responding, “@iamprettyprivileged 📌.”

Drake has been on the receiving end of the “culture vulture” label for several years, with his recent feud with contemporary Kendrick Lamar reigniting the claims. Though the Canadian star was born to a white mother and black father, he has been dragged by rappers like Lamar and Rick Ross for going to the United States to use black artists and their culture to elevate his career.

That aside, Drake has also received criticism for tapping into other cultures through his music, from his explorations of afrobeats like One Dance and Controlla to his patois rapping on songs like Too Good with Rihanna and Popcaan’s We Caa Done.

As for his image, several netizens said he was channeling his inner Sean Paul in 2022 after debuting cornrows reminiscent of the deejay’s Dutty Rock era.

On the other hand, Sean Paul has managed to maintain an original brand image and sound since emerging in the 1990s.

It’s typical for Jamaican acts to adopt an American accent when attempting to cross over, but the entertainer has maintained his patois style of deejaying, no doubt adding to his point of difference as Jamaica’s biggest dancehall act. Be it his massive features with superstars like Beyoncé (Baby Boy) or Sia (Cheap Thrills), or his support of locals like Chi Ching Ching (Crick Neck) or Stylo G (Dumpling Remix), Sean Paul’s sound has stayed consistently uncompromising and true to his roots.

The Temperature hitmaker is currently on his ‘Greatest Tour’ in the United States.

Kodak Black’s Luxury Cars Vandalized by Ex After Rekindling Romance with Another Baby Mother

Rapper Kodak Black’s tumultuous personal life took another dramatic turn when two of his luxury cars were vandalized, allegedly by one of his baby mothers, Maranda Johnson.

This incident occurred after Kodak was seen spending time with his other baby mother, Maya. Johnson, who recently gave birth to a baby boy with Kodak, posted images of the wrecked vehicles on Instagram.

The photos showed the cars with shattered windows and significant damage. Johnson clarified that she was responsible for the attack on the rapper‘s cars and hinted at taking legal action against Kodak.

In another heated post, Johnson lashed out at Maya for rekindling her relationship with the Super Gremlin artist. Johnson accused Maya of neglecting their son and using the gifts Kodak buys for their child to fund her drug habit.

Johnson expressed her frustration at Maya’s relationship with Kodak, calling her a deadbeat and criticizing her for being a side piece to her child’s father.

Johnson’s outburst was likely sparked by a series of videos showing Kodak Black with Maya and their eight-year-old son, King Khalid.

One clip showed Kodak asleep next to Maya, suggesting a renewed intimacy. Kodak Black has four children, including two with Johnson, and has not yet commented on the vandalism.

Kodak Black has an unstable love life
This recent drama is just the latest in a string of personal controversies for the 26-year-old rapper. Earlier this year, he seemed to reconcile with another ex, Mellow Rackz, despite welcoming a baby with Johnson just days before.

In December, Kodak referred to Johnson as his fiancée while announcing her pregnancy, stating his commitment to her and their future child.

However, this declaration caused confusion as Kodak had previously gifted rings to Johnson and Rackz. Kodak’s relationship with Johnson seemed solid when he gave her a ring shortly before Christmas 2021, months after getting engaged to Rackz.

During the proposal, he praised Johnson for being a part of his legacy, but his words quickly turned aggressive as he threatened anyone who would come between them.

Kanye West Fans Left Stunned After Multiple Tracks Release To His YouTube Account Inexplicably

Ye’s collection of songs includes instrumentals and full performances from him and features.
Kanye West is always dealing with some sort of issue, regardless of if it was caused by him or someone else. Currently, his accuser and former Yeezy employee, Lauren Pisciotta, is looking to sue the controversial mogul for sexual assault/harassment.

Currently, no one really knows who is at fault here, as Ye has recently announced that he is suing Lauren back. He and his legal claim she was trying to persuade him to commit sexual acts, while also blackmailing him for millions. So much is still to come of that situation, so be sure to stay locked in with us. Right now, though, Kanye West has to deal with a potential hacker unloading multiple songs on his YouTube.

This all went down just moments ago, as it appears that 13 total tracks were leaked on to the official page of Mr. West. The capsule includes what could be unfinished demos and older sounding tracks. Additionally, they could be Donda leftovers, due to the all-black cover art on each song. Each one was released separately and not as a project. Or, since we are in the middle of the VULTURES era, these could be throwaways, too.

Fans are just as floored as we are, as there was no warning of Kanye West dropping anything. This expectedly has led to YouTube users coming up with theories as to why the troubled superstar would do this on a Tuesday.

Some think he is trying to cover up the fact that he has these sexual allegations against him. Others believe he was simply hacked, which could be the case. Just about a week ago, a massive number of songs from major artists, including Ye, were leaked. More should come of this as well, so stay with us during this second developing story.

What are your thoughts on Kanye West dropping several songs on his YouTube? What fan theory are buying into the most right now and why? Are any of these tracks winners in your book? Do you think these are Donda throwaways? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section.

Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Kanye West. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Kanye West’s former assistant has sued him for sexual harassment and wrongful termination

Kanye West’s former assistant has sued him for sexual harassment and wrongful termination, according to court documents.

In the filing, Lauren Pisciotta said she started working with the rapper in July 2021 as he prepared to launch his Yeezy fashion line.

The influencer — who also collaborated with West on a few “Donda” songs — was offered $1 million for the job. The only condition was that she would be available to the rapper 24 hours a day, seven days a week — which she accepted.

In her lawsuit, Pisciotta detailed that she was also making an additional $1 million from OnlyFans until West, 46, asked her to be more “God Like” and delete her account in 2022.

In return, West allegedly raised the model’s salary to $2 million a year to compensate for the lost income. However, he allegedly never adjusted her salary.

Shortly after her raise, the father of four allegedly started sending her vulgar text messages.

“See my problem is I be wanting to f**k but then after I **k I want a girl to tell me how hard they been fked while I’m fing them. Then I want her to cheat on me,” one of the text messages allegedly read.

Along with the crude messages, he allegedly shared explicit details of sexual acts he wanted to experience, as well as photos and videos of West having intercourse with other women.

Pisciotta also allegedly received intimate photos of “current and former” Yeezy employees — both “men and women” — from West.

In the lawsuit, Pisciotta detailed multiple other incidents with Kanye, which included him allegedly masturbating while they were on the phone, asking about her boyfriends’ penis sizes and even allegedly forcing her “to remove her cardigan while she was in the office because he said ‘it was covering too much.’”

In another instance, he allegedly locked them in a room together and masturbated next to her before falling asleep. She also claimed that he got angry after she shut down any advances to “date or have sex” with him.

By September 2022, Pisciotta was promoted to Chief of Staff of several of West’s companies and offered a $4 million salary. However, just a month later, he fired her.

Pisciotta was offered $3 million in severance, which she also allegedly never received.

Now, in her lawsuit, Pisciotta is seeking compensation for breach of contract and hostile work environment.

This comes more than a month after he was accused of firing a former black employee because of the color of his skin.

According to the filing obtained by Page Six, Benjamin Deshon Provo was employed to work as a security guard at the Grammy winner’s Christian school, Donda Academy, in August 2021.

During his employment, Provo alleged that West “screamed at and berated black employees” and “regularly expressed negative beliefs associated with prominent black leaders.

Brad Pitt is reportedly ‘upset and aware’ that his daughter Shiloh filed to drop his last name on her 18th birthday

American actor, Brad Pitt is reportedly ‘upset and aware’ that his daughter Shiloh filed to drop his last name on her 18th birthday.

A source close to the 60-year-old Oscar winner said his erasure from his daughter’s life is just another indication that he has ‘lost his children,’ according to People.

‘He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,’ the source claimed. ‘He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter.’

Notably, Pitt was already in the process of legally adopting a daughter who had been a part of his life for months before he and his then-partner Angelina Jolie, 49, had announced she was pregnant with Shiloh in January 2006.

Jolie had travelled to Ethiopia to adopt her first daughter Zahara, 19, in July 2005, and Pitt had come with her on the trip.

He was reported to be in the process of becoming Zahara’s adopted father in December 2005, a month before he and Jolie announced her pregnancy.

‘The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad,’ the source continued. ‘He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.’

They added that the distance between Pitt and his six children — Maddox, 22; Pax, 20; Zahara; Shiloh; and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15 — ‘pains him.’

However, they noted that ‘he’s still happy with Ines [de Ramon],’ his girlfriend.

Another source described as close to Pitt told the publication that the Tree Of Life star ‘still loves all of his kids tremendously.’

‘This whole process has been very hard for the whole family,’ they added.

If Shiloh’s request is granted she will subsequently go simply by ‘Shiloh Jolie,’ rather than her original full name, ‘Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.’

People previously reported that Pitt’s youngest daughter Vivienne, who served as her mother Angelina Jolie’s assistant when she produced the Broadways musical adaptation of The Outsiders had listed her name as ‘Vivienne Jolie’ in the Playbill for the show.

It is unclear if Vivienne has legally changed her name, but the minor would likely need either parental consent or extenuating circumstances to be allowed to do so before turning 18.

Zahara previously introduced herself as ‘Zahara Marley Jolie’ when she joined the Mu Pi chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College late last year.

Pitt and Jolie’s oldest sons, Maddox and Pax, have reportedly not publicly used their father’s last name in years.

Pitt and Jolie began dating publicly shortly after he and his then-wife Jennifer Aniston announced their divorce in 2005.

Two years later, the Maleficent actress filed for divorce in 2016. She and Pitt were declared legally single in 2019.

However, the two stars have been embroiled in an ongoing divorce battle over assets and custody for years since.

Rapper Common has explained how Drake‘s dad played a key part in helping them squash their beef

Rapper and actor, Common has explained how Drake‘s dad played a key part in helping them squash their beef.

The two rappers beefed with each other in the early 2010s, on tracks like “Sweet” and “Stay Schemin’” before quickly patching things with the help of an unlikely person – Drake’s father Dennis Graham.

Appearing on Drink Champs alongside Pete Rock, Common opened up about their rift and how Graham brokered a truce between them.

“I eventually saw Drake face to face,” he said at the 34:18 mark in the video, referring to their meeting at the 2012 Grammy Awards. “It was at a point where I was like, ‘Wassup?’ And we had little words.

“And then his father was there and was like, ‘Y’all need to squash this.’ And I was like, ‘Man, this an elder talking to me. This this man’s father. Let me chill out.’ And then Drake just was like, ‘I ain’t on this.’ So we just squashed it.

He continued: “I was like, ‘Listen, if we face to face, then aight, I’m done with it. Even if it was some subliminal disses, I said what I had to say. Right now, we saying we squashing it. We good.’”

Common also said that the beef started after Drake began dating his ex Serena Williams and took “subliminal” shots at him on wax.

“I felt like Drake was sending me a couple of shots, subliminal,” he added. “I don’t know what motivated him to send me some shots but I think what for sure had me, if I’m just being real, like you know, we mess with one of the same girls. You know wars happen over women. That’s just what it is.”

He added: “I ain’t going to get at you if you with somebody I was with. But if you start throwing me a couple little, you know, you trying to throw some jabs then I’m like, ‘Come on, man, okay.’”

Back in a 2012 interview with Cabbie Richards, Common detailed the moment he and Drake buried the hatchet in

“We had a talk, we had a conversation. It was a face-to-face, man-to-man, a positive thing. It was a good conversation,” he said. “I’ve learned to respect him even more. I already thought he was a talented guy, but just from the conversation we had, I hold even more respect for him.

“We saw each other and the conversation was initiated. It was just a respectful conversation that needed to be had, so he knew that I’m not at him trying to destroy him as a human being. It was a Hip Hop battle to me. I had to put all of those things into Hip Hop… I gave him a pound, gave him a boom and it was all love.”

Transgender inmate moved to a male prison after he raped his female cellmate

A man who claimed he identified as a female and was put in a California women’s prison has now been moved to a male prison after he raped his female cellmate.

Tremaine Deon Carroll, 51, has been moved to a men’s prison as he faces two charges of rape and one of “dissuading a witness from testifying”.

One of Carroll’s alleged victims, Jane Doe, says she was attacked and raped in the shower at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla, about 150 miles southeast of San Francisco.

Transgender inmate is removed from women

The criminal complaint also mentions a second unnamed alleged victim.

Carroll is now at the male-only facility at Valley State Prison in Delano.

According to the first victim identified as Jane Doe, she fell victim to a “fully penetrative” assault in the showers in January 2024 at the hands of her new cellmate, Carroll.

The alleged attack has left her with crippling trauma and unable to shower for days at a time. Basic hygiene is now a “trigger” that brings the horror of her ordeal flooding back.

Jane Doe, who is in her thirties and just over five feet tall, was serving a short sentence for a burglary.

Sources close to her case say that after she asked prison authorities to change her cell, she opted to room with two fellow female prisoners and a self-identified transgender inmate, Carroll.

As a juvenile, Carroll was charged with theft and firearm possession offences in 1988 and 1989, according to court documents.

In 1990, as an adult, Carroll was arrested for involvement in the gunpoint kidnapping, robbery and sexual assault of two women.

Carroll was charged with three counts of “oral copulation,” the act of forcing a victim to perform oral sex, though these counts were eventually dropped.

Carroll pled guilty to only two counts of kidnapping and was sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison.

After his release, Carroll — then age 25 — offended again in 1998 and was arrested and convicted for the robbery of a jewellery store.

That crime activated California’s “Three Strikes and You’re Out” law, which mandates further penalties for offenders with three serious felony convictions.

Carroll was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years to life and has been locked up ever since.

Now, at 51 years old, Carroll is 6ft 2in tall and about 200lbs.

In mugshot photos, Carroll sports a thick black and grey beard and self-identifies as a trans woman, though has not undergone sex reassignment surgery.

Jane Doe claims Carroll began expressing sexual interest in her immediately after moving cells.

Carroll allegedly left her flirtatious notes. On the second day in the room, she claimed that Carroll propositioned her.

Jane Doe said she turned down all the advances.

But, less than 24 hours later, she claimed Carroll attacked her when she was alone in the prison shower and raped her.

Jane Doe was then hospitalized and, humiliatingly, kept in arm and leg chains as she was subjected to a pelvic exam, sourced told DailyMail.

Upon her release from the hospital, she was segregated from the prison population, strip-searched and treated as if she were the predator because Carroll had alleged that she was the rapist instead.

Carroll now stands accused of two rapes — the alleged attack on Rebecca and another unrelated assault on an unidentified person around the same time.

Carroll also faces one charge of attempting to intimidate a witness to one of the attacks.

Women’s rights advocates said these allegations are a wake-up call to the California prison system, which has moved more than 44 biological male prisoners into all-female facilities since 2021.

Nearly 200 more applications for transfer are now under review.

Dad punches comedian on stage over ‘sexualized’ joke about his baby son

A Spanish dad punched a comedian on stage for making a vile “sexualised” joke about his 3-month-old son on social media prior to the show and the attack was caught on video.

The comedian, Jaime Caravaca, was in the middle of his set in Madrid on Monday night, June 3, when the enraged dad, Alberto Pugilato, abruptly stormed the stage and pummeled him in the head.

The on-stage violence erupted after Caravaca had responded to a photo that Pugilato — a right-wing activist and musician — had posted of his baby over the weekend on X with the caption, “Pride and joy.”

“Nothing and no one can prevent the possibility that he is gay and when he grows up he gets tired of sucking black c–k,” Caravaca tweeted back, according to a since-deleted screenshot being circulated online.

Pugilato quickly fired back, “I assure you that you are going to apologize for what you said about my 3-month-old son and you will discover that real life is not Twitter.”

Following through with his threat, Pugilato was then filmed jumping on stage during Caravaca’s monologue and landing the blow.

“Do you think my son was going to eat a black man’s d**k? At 3 months?” the father screamed.

“What now? Tell me to my face, here and now,” he added.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Pugilato would face charges over assault.

The comedian later addressed the onstage attack, tweeting that he’d received death threats.

“What was intended to be a joke was ultimately an unfortunate and not at all appropriate comment on my part. My apologies to anyone who feels affected,” he said. “Let’s put violence aside, and leave a good world for people to grow free.”

Pugilato quickly responded to the post, saying he accepted the comedian’s apology.

“I defend freedom of expression in the same way that I defend the right to respond. I do not wish you any harm and I hope this helps others understand that children are sacred. All the best,” he tweeted.

Vladimir Putin is reportedly now using bulletproof vests for many of his public appearances

Russian president, Vladimir Putin is reportedly now using bulletproof vests for many of his public appearances amid fears he could face an assassination bid linked to his war in Ukraine or from Islamic terrorists.

Two Russian officials plus a source close to the Kremlin told The Moscow Times that the country’s special services ‘have ramped up the already strict security measures surrounding President Vladimir Putin to an unprecedented degree’.

The Kremlin is on ‘heightened alert over its invasion of Ukraine – but is also said to be ‘rattled’ by recent attacks on high-ranking politicians in Europe and Asia.

A Russian source told the news outlet: ‘The Kremlin takes Vladimir Putin’s security very seriously. He is protected by a whole army of visible and invisible guards.’

The report claimed that the 71-year-old has been wearing body armour at outdoor events ‘since at least 2023’.

The report went on: ‘He has been doing so on the strong recommendation of the Presidential Security Service (SBP), a unit within the Federal Guard Service (FSO) that protects the president.’

Sources confirmed he wore the body armour beneath his jacket during a major appearance on May 9 on Red Square when he presided over the annual Victory Day military parade commemorating the Soviet victory over the Nazis in World War II, stated the report.

This is an event when his security is highly visible, and snipers are present on rooftops around the square.

Footage of him walking with ex-defence minister Sergei Shoigu appeared to show how he was made uncomfortable by the alleged body armour.

‘This year on May 9, the chief [Putin] was clearly wearing concealed body armour during the parade. And that precaution, I think, is necessary,’ said one official.

‘God protects the cautious,’ said a second.

The news outlet quoted Jade Miller, described as an independent British hostile environment and high-risk security consultant, who examined in detail footage of Putin at the Victory Day parade and concluded that he was indeed wearing a bulletproof vest.

‘Putin appears to be walking in a rather rigid manner and there are no natural creases appearing at the back of his overcoat when walking and shaking military personnel hands,’ said Miller.

His upper body frame ‘looks unnatural and his shoulders appear rather wide & square, showing no shape of the back and shoulder blades’.

At one point ‘a part of his overcoat appears to get caught under what could potentially be a ballistic vest’.

The day was unusually cold for the time of year, and many attendees had donned extra clothing.

But Putin ‘appears to lift and adjust his shoulders in a way that shows discomfort from how a ballistic vest is designed to sit on the shoulders or collarbone,’ she concluded.

The weight of such body armour may cause discomfort and irritation when worn for a prolonged time.

The British expert concluded Putin kept his overcoat fastened up high and was ‘seen checking that it is closed, as though he is trying to ensure no one can see an undergarment’.

She concluded: ‘In my professional opinion, Putin is wearing some form of ballistic protection during his time attending the parade’.

POLICE DENY RECEIVING ANY HUNGRY LION FOOD PACKS FROM BOWMAN LUSAMBO

POLICE DENY RECEIVING ANY HUNGRY LION DRUM STICKS AND SWEET CHILI WRAPS FROM BOWMN LUSAMBO

The Zambia Police Service wishes to address and refute the recent allegations circulating on social media regarding Mr. Bowman Lusambo and the alleged distribution of Hungry Lion food packs to police officers in Kabwe.

Contrary to what has been reported, the Zambia Police Service can confirm the following:

1. Events of 3, June 2024: Mr. Bowman Lusambo did purchase Hungry Lion food packs in Kabwe. However, these food packs were not intended for police officers.

2. Police Patrols: At the time of the incident, police officers were engaged in routine patrols in the vicinity of the Hungry Lion outlet.
Mr. Lusambo did not interact with the officers regarding the food packs, nor did he distribute any food to them.

3. Distribution of Food Packs: The dumped food packs by Mr. Lusambo was later given to members of the public who were present around the Hungry Lion outlet.

At no point were the food packs handed over to or received by the police officers on duty. What Mr. Lusambo did was to dump the food packs and walked away later got into his vehicle and drove off.

4. Social Media Allegations: The allegations suggesting that Mr. Lusambo bought food for police officers are unfounded and misleading. Such misinformation can harm the public’s perception of both the police and individual police officers involved.

The Zambia Police Service takes such false reports seriously and urges the public to verify facts before spreading unverified information. Our commitment remains to serve the public with integrity and transparency, and we expect the same level of responsibility from our citizens and the media.

We appreciate the cooperation of the community in ensuring that accurate information is shared. We also encourage the public to report any suspicious activities or misinformation to the nearest police station.

LET’S AMEND THE CONSTITUTION FOR A HYBRID ELECTION OF PROPORTIONAL PARTY REPRESENTATION SELECTED MPs & INDIVIDUALLY ELECTED MPS

LET’S AMEND THE CONSTITUTION FOR A HYBRID ELECTION OF PROPORTIONAL PARTY REPRESENTATION SELECTED MPs & INDIVIDUALLY ELECTED MPS

By Miles Sampa, MP

June 3rd, 2024

The people of South Africa were able to vote for a coalition government because of their proportional representation democracy system. Zambia must copy and paste for a better democracy but make it hybrid where citizens will vote for both parties and individuals. Parties can earn seats based on votes obtained. This will ensure all ideologies are represented in Parliament for better checks and balances on the government of the day.

From the current 156 elected MPs, the number should be increased to 250 with 100 seats reserved for political parties and shared on a weighted basis depending on votes achieved with a minimum of 20,000 votes. The selected list of names from political parties would be lodged to ECZ before elections under guidelines that it should be of national character that is capture all 10 Provinces and implicitly all 73 tribes of Zambia. To be elected MP in Zambia one needs to have a lot of money to acquire both the primary adoption with a party and win the actual elections to from citizens of
a constituency. Tulyemo!

Lists from parties would therefore capture good people to represent the people inside the parliament with or without money. This way far left our One Zambia ,One Nation motto would become a guaranteed reality inside Parliament. In addition the far left (Socialist) or far right (Captalists) and mid centre (liberal) parties would be present inside Parliament for proper check and balances or oversight roles on the President and his Executive.

Imagine Sean Tembo, Sakwiba, Silavwe, Cosmo, Wynter, Dr Fred Mmmebe, Nawakwi, Saboi etc or ECL and or HH inside Parliament as Oppsition. It would be a good thing for democracy but under the current system, it remains a pipe dream.

The first past the goal post is not real democracy and done away with in most advanced Countries. Let the President be nominated amongst MPs they find themselves inside Parliament after elections. In this way a President can be changed at any time especially if no party gets absolute majority as has happened in South Africa.

A President will therefore represent values and principles of the Coalition parties to deliver to the people and if fails, the Coalition can dissolve and establish a different setup with another President.

The constitution of Zambia is not the Bible or Quoram and it should constantly be aligned with Morden people requirements for a fuctional democracy where they have a say constantly and not only after 5 years.

Let’s amend the Zambian constitution to reflect so before the 2026 elections.

JOINT CSO PRESS RELEASE– POLICE UNCONSTITUTIONAL PREVENTION OF THE RIGHT TO GATHER

0

JOINT CSO PRESS RELEASE– POLICE UNCONSTITUTIONAL PREVENTION OF THE RIGHT TO GATHER

Lusaka, 3rd June 2024

It is with a sense of increasing alarm that we, the undersigned civil society organisations (CSOs), note the incessant incidents of police prevention of opposition party rallies and gatherings of any actors considered critical of government.
Specifically, the organisations issuing this statement collectively condemn the use of the Police to prevent the New Heritage Party rally that was scheduled to be held in Mandevu, Lusaka, last Saturday, 1st June 2024. Further, we express our extreme concern at how still in Mandevu, UPND cadres brandished weapons threatening violence and disturbing the lives of ordinary citizens. We note that, while the Police were out in full force and numbers in Mandevu, there was no attempt to prevent the criminality of the cadres or arrest them.

We would like to bring to the attention of government and the public that almost exactly three years ago, on the 31st May 2021, civil society issued a joint statement against the then Inspector General of Police, who had threatened to prosecute attendees of Zoom meetings hosted by the then President of the Resident Doctors’ Association of Zambia.

We raise our previous statement to show that the current government is unwisely taking the well-worn path of previous others who abused the Police for political interests. We would like to remind the governing UPND party of its statements, while in opposition, promising Zambia full adherence to the rule of law. We especially remind President Hichilema of his repeated personal promises that cadre lawlessness and disruption of citizen lives would never be countenanced under his presidency.

It is our view that those promises are being broken with shocking licence.

We jointly remind the Government and the Police that the constitutional rights of citizens must be respected even when the exercise of those rights is inconvenient for government. Government must expect and live with opposition rallies and criticism by citizens. Being in office does not turn a political party or its leaders into gods. Silencing any voices, including those of critics and opposition actors, goes against the basic tenets of democracy. Our considered position is that even where citizens wishing to gather are likely to criticise government, this is not a legal reason to prevent them from gathering.

Finally, we call on citizens to stand together against government actions that regress on the gains we have made. Democracy must be defended, or else politicians do their best to kill it.

IMF REACHES STAFF-LEVEL AGREEMENT ON THE THIRD REVIEW OF THE EXTENDED CREDIT FACILITY WITH ZAMBIA

IMF REACHES STAFF-LEVEL AGREEMENT ON THE THIRD REVIEW OF THE EXTENDED CREDIT FACILITY WITH ZAMBIA
JUNE 3, 2024

End-of-Mission press releases include statements of IMF staff teams that convey preliminary findings after a visit to a country. The views expressed in this statement are those of the IMF staff and do not necessarily represent the views of the IMF’s Executive Board. Based on the preliminary findings of this mission, staff will prepare a report that, subject to management approval, will be presented to the IMF’s Executive Board for discussion and decision.

The IMF and Zambia have reached a staff-level agreement on economic policies and reforms to conclude the third review of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF).

The ongoing drought has created a more challenging economic environment. For 2024, real GDP growth is now projected at 2.3 percent, with additional external and fiscal financing needs. The authorities have therefore requested an augmentation of access by 30 percent of quota (SDR 293.46 million) to preserve macroeconomic stability and support Zambia’s response to external shocks.
Zambia has agreed to target emergency relief to the most vulnerable while sustaining fiscal consolidation efforts to restore debt sustainability, tighten monetary policy to curb inflation while maintaining exchange rate flexibility, and strive to create an environment that promotes private sector development.

Washington, DC: An International Monetary Fund staff team led by Mercedes Vera Martin, IMF mission chief for Zambia, held in-person discussions with the authorities in Lusaka from April 24 to May 7. Discussions were focused on the authorities’ reforms and policy priorities in the context of the third review of Zambia’s 38-month IMF-supported program under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF). Discussions continued virtually subsequently. This staff-level agreement is subject to IMF Management approval and Executive Board consideration. The arrangement was approved by the IMF Executive Board for SDR 978 million (US$1.3 billion) on August 31, 2022.

At the conclusion of the discussions, Ms. Vera Martin issued the following statement:

“We are pleased to announce that the Zambian authorities and the IMF team have reached a staff-level agreement on economic policies to complete the third review of Zambia’s ECF.

“In the context of significant macroeconomic challenges that have become more complex to manage due to the severe drought, staff also considered the authorities’ request for an augmentation of the IMF’s financial support to Zambia from the approved SDR 978.2 million (about $1.3 billion) to SDR 1,271.66 million (about $1.7 billion). Once approved by IMF Management and completed by the Executive Board, Zambia will have immediate access to SDR 433.34 million.

“The 2024 outlook has worsened due to the drought; GDP growth is now projected at 2.3 percent, half the forecast in December 2023. Agriculture production is expected to contract by 19 percent; power outages will hinder manufacturing activity; and copper production is expected to recover more gradually than initially envisaged. Inflation, at 14.7 percent in May, is projected to remain elevated. The medium-term outlook remains favorable, supported by expanding mining production and restored debt sustainability.

“Our discussions on policies and reforms revolved around four pillars.

“First, the revised 2024 Budget will seek to reprioritize spending to accommodate emergency relief for one million additional households. Additional external support will help finance a temporary expansion of emergency social cash transfers, with existing beneficiaries temporarily receiving double the current transfer value. Publishing all drought-related government contracts will support accountability amid limited financing options.”

“Second, fiscal consolidation will remain paramount to restore debt sustainability. The authorities committed to maintaining fiscal prudence over the medium term and considering additional domestic revenues, including by rationalizing tax exemptions, and improving tax compliance and administration. Better cash and liability management, improved expenditure and commitment controls, and enhanced decentralization efforts will also help reduce financing needs.”

“Third, monetary policy will need to remain appropriately tight, while allowing the exchange rate to play its role as a shock absorber. With inflation still outside the target band, the Bank of Zambia will remain vigilant in curbing inflation toward the 6-8 percent target band. Improving the monetary transmission will help develop interbank money markets. The Bank of Zambia will continue strengthening banking supervision, including by developing an effective deposit insurance scheme and reviewing the financial services framework.

“Finally, scaling up structural reforms’ implementation to level the playing field for all is key for the economic recovery and much-needed economic diversification. Greater transparency in the energy sector will be crucial to maximizing competition in the use of the oil pipeline, reducing fuel costs, and refraining from reintroducing fuel subsidies. Enacting the Access to Information Bill, enhancing the transparency of State-Owned Enterprises, and adopting anti-corruption legislation will strengthen governance and public accountability.

“We look forward to the bilateral agreements for the implementation of the agreed debt treatment with official creditors. We also welcome the authorities’ progress in reaching an agreement with bondholders and ongoing discussions with other private creditors to agree on a debt treatment in line with program parameters and with comparability of treatment as defined by the official creditors.

“The IMF staff team would like to thank the authorities for the constructive dialogue, warm hospitality, and strong cooperation to finalize the reform package in support of the completion of the third review. A Board meeting is expected by the end of June.”

I STAND READY TO BE ARRESTED FOR CALLING FOR THE ARREST OF LEVY, HAMASAKA, MWIINDE FOR THE ABDUCTION OF EMMANUEL BANDA –  SEAN TEMBO

PeP STATEMENT ON MR. LEVY NGOMA’S COMPLAINT TO THE POLICE FOR CRIMINAL DEFAMATION IN RELATION TO HON. EMMANUEL “JAY JAY” BANDA’S ABDUCTION

Liberty House, 4th June 2024

1. As Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) we have noted, through media reports, that President Hakainde Hichilema’s Special Assistant for Politics; Mr. Levy Ngoma, yesterday filed a complaint with Zambia Police against PeP President Mr. Sean Tembo, for criminal defamation, in relation to the statement which the PeP President issued on 2nd June 2024 calling on the Zambia Police to arrest the individuals who had been named as being involved in the abduction of Hon. Emmanuel “Jay Jay” Banda, as revealed by Hon. Banda’s Lawyer; Mr. Sakwiba Sikota SC, which individuals included Mr. Levy Ngoma and two others.

2. Section 193(1) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia defines criminal defamation as “… publishing a false statement against another person …”. It must be noted that the statement which PeP President Mr. Sean Tembo issued on 2nd June 2024 is neither false nor untrue nor defamatory because it is a fact that Hon. Emmanuel “Jay Jay” Banda’s lawyer, Mr. Sakwiba Sikota SC has publicly stated on numerous occasions that Hon. Jay Jay Banda fingered Mr. Levy Ngoma and two others as being involved in his abduction, when the Police allegedly interrogated Hon. Jay Jay Banda in the presence of his lawyer.

3. In the premises above, we wish to reaffirm that as Patriots for Economic Progress, we stand by our statement which we issued on 2nd June 2024 and further state that there is nothing false, untrue or defamatory about our statement. We also wish to re-echo our demands for the Zambia Police to immediately arrest the alleged abductors being Mr. Levy Ngoma, Mr. Clayson Hamasaka and Mr. Trevor Mwiinde and subject them to an identification parade so that the abduction victim; Hon. Emmanuel “Jay Jay” Banda can formally identify them. A victim’s testimony in an abduction case is the strongest form of evidence that can ever be adduced.

4. As Patriots for Economic Progress, we have further noted, from the media, the demand of K5 million from Mr. Levy Ngoma’s lawyers for alleged defamation against their client. We wish to categorically state that Mr. Levy Ngoma is not entitled to any such compensation, as he was never defamed. We look forward to meeting Mr. Levy Ngoma and his lawyers in court, where we shall vigorously challenge their frivolous claim.

5. Lastly, we wish to state that, should the Zambia Police follow through with Mr. Levy Ngoma’s frivolous complaint for criminal defamation against us, as they have done in previous cases involving opposition leaders, we stand ready to be arrested. Let the Zambian people be the judge.

UPND defends ZESCO’s Victor Mapani

UPND defends ZESCO’s Victor Mapani

Country men and women, let’s not allow destructive actions to derail progress in the energy sector as it is the heartbeat of our social and economic progress.
Zambians should always look at the competence of fellow Zambians rather than tribe or personal relations as a determination or qualification to assume certain responsibilities.
Unfortunately, we have as a nation been engrossed ‘in the Bring him Down syndrome’ at the expense of nurturing meritocracy and professionalism. This syndrome has not spared key institutions such as ZESCO limited where individuals have been targeted.
In this vein, Zambians are aware that under the value system of prudent management, Engineer Victor Mapani and his team at the power utility company, the debt stock of US$1.8 billion as at December 2021 has significantly been reduced to about US$580 million todate.
The debt to the biggest Independent Power Producer (IPP) with a coal-fired Thermal Power Plant, Maamba Collieries Limited was a staggering US$600 million as of 2021 but has now been reduced to US$250 million following protracted period of dispute, negotiations and debt settlements.

It’s not a secret that the previous management at ZESCO under the Patriotic Front government neglected to address these thorny issues that had compromised and further threatened the efficient delivery of services to the consumers of electricity.
It is undeniable fact that ZESCO’s financial base was becoming weak each day with heightened abuse of resources by those connected to the reckless and corrupt previous regime.

Those who were indirectly or directly benefiting from deals at ZESCO are now regrouping to eject Engineer Victor Mapani as he appears to be a stumbling block to their ‘eating’ agenda. This ‘eating’ phenomenon left ZESCO bleeding financially while the connected individuals continued milking it for personal benefits.

Countrymen and women, we all know that Engineer Mapani has steered ZESCO towards long term strategic thinking. ZESCO has come up with an ambitious strategic plan of investing US$6.4 billion in project development across all its operation lines, which include generation, transmission, distribution and supply over a period of 8 years.

The expected outcomes of these investments through equity partnerships are unprecedented and shall reposition the power utility company to respond to the growing demand from its commercial and domestic consumers.
All these ambitious projects and programmes require strategic and focused management to implement them. This comes at the back of bringing down debt owed to IPPs from US$1.8 billion in 2021 to about US$580 million, representing a more than 60% reduction of debt to IPPs as of 31st January 2024.

Currently, the company is paying invoices in full to the IPPs while all the outstanding 67,000 applicants have been connected to the national grid in the last two years.

Efficiency levels at the Call Centre with qualified personnel have been phenomena.
The introduction of transparency in contract allocation in the procurement system has eliminated the endemic corruption and enhanced efficiency in the delivery of goods and services by the suppliers.

The company has established a committee comprising representatives from all relevant departments to ensure that no individual has the authority to unilaterally award contracts.

It is essential to highlight that this approach eliminates the possibility of one person influencing contract allocation decisions.
ZESCO, under the guidance of Mapani and the Head of Procurement, Mr. Munsaka has so far demonstrated a strong commitment to professionalism and ethical conduct regarding the procurement of goods and services.

At the height of all these developments and achievable plans to improve the electricity utility company, there is a well-orchestrated sponsored vicious campaign intended to destabilize Zesco operations.

Lately, we have witnessed social media campaign against Engineer Mapani, whilst targeting those perceived to be his relatives working for this public institution. Mapani is a victim of this malicious campaign because he has brought integrity to an institution that was used as a cash-cow for those who are politically connected.

ZESCO is an equal opportunity employer for all citizens of this country as long they meet minimum requirements for specific jobs.
It’s unfortunate that the young lady, Beenzu who shares the same surname as the ZESCO managing director has yielded to the malicious campaign regarding her promotion in legal department and decided to leave her employment even when she possesses the prerequisite qualifications and competences.

ZESCO like many other parastatal companies employs thousands of Zambians across all ethnicities, including close relatives of some opposition leaders’ social media surrogates who have obligated the resignation of young Beenzu.

The policy of the UPND is to give opportunities of employment to citizens without any influence from their ethnicity, religious or political preferences. We know people working for parastatal companies, including ZESCO who got their employment through their political connections in the previous governments but have been allowed to work because they have demonstrated some competences.
The UPND government shall not stigmatise any workers who deserve to work and earn a living because our focus is to deliver this country to prosperity with the participation of its citizens.

The policy direction of ZESCO is driven by our broad spectrum of our manifesto which prioritise delivery of affordable and clean energy through the implementation of an ambitious renewable energy investment plan that will improve the energy mix. This will reduce our vulnerability to climate shocks by leveraging the declining cost of technologies to harness our vast resources, complimented with wind and geothermal.

These strategic interventions require experts who share this vision so that our country once again becomes self-reliant in electricity generation and distribution. The improved power supply levels shall positively impact industries, particularly the Small and Medium Scale enterprises which are the backbone of our industrialization agenda.

The scheme to remove Engineer Mapani who has so far demonstrated high levels of competence and shares the vision of our party manifesto shall only renege on this transformative agenda with regards the energy sector.

President Hakainde Hichilema envisages a power generation and supply efficient country to propel the economy of the country.
If there are any fundamental differences as reported in the media, the ZESCO board and Engineer Mapani should resolve them immediately so that we deliver. The expectations of the people on the generation and supply of reliable and predictable power should be met without any administrative excuses.

People are demanding for results and rightfully so.
As chairperson for Labour and Social Security of the UPND, I have a solemn duty and responsibility to protect the workers who appear to be victims of corporate intimidation and victimization.
I thank you.

COURT DEMANDS THAT AMOS CHANDA OBTAINS MEDICAL STATUS FROM UTH

State has no problem with Amos Chanda going for medical attention abroad

THE State has no objection with allowing former special assistant to the president for press and public relations, Amos Chanda seek medical attention abroad.

Chanda made an application for his passport to be be released by courts but later withdrew it.

This was after Chief resident magistrate Davies Chibwili asked him to have government medical personnel recommend his travel to India for medical care.

Chanda had surrendered his passport to the clerk of court as one of the conditions for his release on bail pending appeal against his jailing by Ndola resident magistrate Dominic Makalicha for using insulting language against law enforcement officers.

Chanda was jailed seven months together with his wife Mable and sister in-law Ruth Nakaundi for using derogatory remarks against officers of the Anti -Corruption Commission.

Chanda had made the application before magistrate Makalicha to have his passport released but magistrate Makalicha referred him to magistrate Chibwili on grounds of jurisdiction.

Chanda renewed his application to have his passport released before magistrate Chibwili so that he can seek medical treatment in India.

“Since 2019 I have been attending specialized medical attention I requested that the passport be released for three weeks, I applied in April to this time nothing has happened. But despite the urgency of this matter the court didn’t attend to this Matter,” he said

“Otherwise I would have abandoned this application if it wasn’t for my health condition.
This is not a conditions that has emerged now but has been there since 2019.”

Chanda said he has been on trial since 2022 and has been in and out of the country for medical attention.

“I want the court to grant me my passport so I can travel abroad,” he insisted.

Magistrate Chibwili directed that Chanda produces enough evidence to convince him.

ACC prosecutor Martin Mayembe said he could not object to Chanda’s application as it was in the interest of Justice that he attains medical treatment.

But magistrate Chibwili expressed concern that many convicts who are out on bail pending appeal and accused persons have fled the country on claims that they intend to seek medical attention.

He said a medical personnel from UTH should endorse Chanda’s travel for medical treatment regarding his health condition.

“There should be a document from our ministry, from government I will be more comfortable if the conditions came from UTH, and a doctor confirming that you have a condition to go abroad,”he said.

“The doctor should give a recommendation depending on the condition because, a number of people have disappeared on similar circumstances.”

Chanda assured the Court that he was not a fight risk as it was not his first time to travel.

Magistrate Chibwili indicated that he would adjourn the case so that a medical doctor can attest that Chanda has a health condition which requires him to seek medical care outside the country.

The proposal by the magistrate did not sit well with Chanda.

“I apply that the court withdraws the application if thats the case so I can apply in the higher court, my medical condition cannot be explained to the public,”said the angry Chanda.

Based on Chanda’s change of mind, magistrate Chibwili said ; “The application has been withdrawn and the matter before me is closed.”

Trump has openly thanked Boris Johnson after he wrote an article in support of the now-convicted ex-president

Ex-US president, Donald Trump has openly thanked Boris Johnson after the former British Prime Minister wrote an article in support of the now-convicted ex-president.

Johnson wrote that Trump had been the victim of a ‘machine-gun mob-style hit job’ and called those responsible for the prosecution ‘liberal elites.’

On Thursday, the Republican presidential candidate was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records in order to stop porn star Stormy Daniels from going public about the pair’s alleged tryst.

Trump is the first US president to ever be convicted of a crime coming six months before facing incumbent Joe Biden. He faces sentencing on July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention begins.

Late Sunday, Trump wrote on his social media platform: ‘Thank you to Boris Johnson!’ He followed that up by posting three quotes from the article.

Donald Trump thanks former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for denouncing his convictions
‘This was a machine-gun mob-style hit job on Trump. It was nakedly political – and will make his victory more likely, not less,’ read the first.

Johnson then called the trial ‘nakedly political’ and ‘completely artificial and said Trump was caught by the Democrats over a ‘technicality,’ views that the real estate mogul endorsed.

‘Except that everyone with any common sense can see what I consider their real motives, how they were combing the rule book for stuff to use against Trump,’ Johnson wrote.

Elsewhere in the piece, Johnson said that the American public knew the case ‘by and large, a load of stunted-up old nonsense.’

‘The vast mass of American voters could see what I believe was really happening: that the liberal elites were just appalled at Trump’s continuing popularity and his ability to connect with voters — and they were using anything they could find to derail his campaign,’ Johnson went on.

‘If you look dispassionately at his time in office, both on the domestic and international front, it was far more successful than his Left-wing critics allow. They should not be using legal tricks like this to prevent him from receiving the judgment that really matters — the verdict of the people.’

Johnson added that the conviction will make a Trump-victory in November ‘more likely, not less.’

American singer Sean Kingston has been extradited to Florida

American singer, Sean Kingston has been extradited to Florida, where he and his mother are charged with committing more than a million dollars’ worth of fraud.

Kingston, 34, was booked into the Broward County jail on Sunday, according to jail records. He was arrested on May 23 at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert where he was performing.

Last week, he waived his right to fight extradition in a California court and agreed to be turned over to authorities in Florida.

Kingston’s mother, 61-year-old Janice Turner, was arrested the same day as her son, when a SWAT team raided his rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Kingston and Turner have been charged with conducting an organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, identity theft, and related crimes, according to arrest warrants released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. The warrants allege they stole money, jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade, and furniture.

The warrants in the case say that from October to March they stole almost $500,000 in jewelry, more than $200,000 from Bank of America, $160,000 from the Cadillac dealer, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank, and $86,000 from the maker of customized beds. Specifics were not given.

Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, faced a judge Monday who set his bond at $100,000, or $10,000 on each of the 10 charges he faces.

He was also ordered to surrender his passport, won’t be allowed to possess firearms, and can’t have contact with his mother.

Robert Rosenblatt, an attorney for Kingston and his mother, previously said they looked forward to addressing the charges in a Florida court and “are confident of a successful resolution.”

Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, was already serving a two-year probation sentence for trafficking stolen property.

His mother pleaded guilty in 2006 to bank fraud for stealing over $160,000 and served nearly 1.5 years in prison, according to federal court records.

Wife who vanished and was declared dead is found 31 years later

A woman who vanished from her home in North Hills, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States of America, has been found 31 years later in Puerto Rico.

When Patricia Kopta vanished without a trace on June 20, 1992, her husband Bob didn’t think much of it because his wife had been a free spirit and acted odd.

Patricia, a well-known street preacher in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had claimed to see ‘visions’ of the Virgin Mary and routinely warned complete strangers that the world was about to end in a nuclear Armageddon.

The devout Roman Catholic disappeared from her home in North Hills on June 20, 1992. Bob reported her missing on November 27, 1992.

He told police it was not uncommon for Patricia – whose nickname was “The Sparrow” due to her short stature and unstable walk – to “drop out of sight” for periods of time.

Police said the disappearance wasn’t overtly suspicious and that her husband was not a suspect.

In the weeks which followed, Patricia was classed as a critical missing person by the authorities, with an urgent search launched.

One poster released by the Pennsylvania Emergency Response Centre had stated: “Her family believes she took a flight to Puerto Rico after her disappearance and spent a week or two there before returning to Pittsburgh.

“She has not been seen or heard from since.”

Patricia, who was 52 at the time of her disappearance, had enjoyed holidays in Puerto Rico before she got married, her sister Gloria had told detectives. She thought her sister could have left to start a new life.

But the complete radio silence worried Patricia’s husband Bob. The former electrician doubted Patricia was safe, and instead feared she had been hurt, abducted or was “laying in a ditch somewhere.”

He paid a psychic to try find answers and placed adverts in Puerto Rican newspapers in a bid to locate the Sparrow.

Wife who vanished and was declared dead is found 31 years later

However, trails ran cold for both the police and Patricia’s family who, seven years after she vanished, obtained a legal declaration which considered her dead.

“I come home one night, and she’s just gone,” Bob, who didn’t remarry, would later say.

“I went through a lot. Every time they’d find a body somewhere [I wondered], ‘Is it Patricia? Is it Patricia?’”

In 2023, 31 years after she vanished, it emerged that Patricia, now 83, was very much alive and in a nursing home 1,700 miles away in Puerto Rico. She had been taken in as a “person in need” in June 1999 after being found wandering aimlessly nearby.

Patricia had kept tight-lipped about her circumstances. It was only after she started suffering from dementia that she began to reveal details about her life.

A social worker followed the little details she revealed and discovered she was from Pennsylvania, so they contacted the authorities.

DNA samples would later confirm she was the missing woman Patricia Kopta.

Bob was 86 when his wife was found.

After hearing the news, he told a press conference: “It’s a sad thing, but it’s a relief off my mind. When your wife goes missing, you’re a suspect.”

Ross Township Deputy Police Chief Brian Kohlhepp told a news conference, that it is likely Patricia’s state of mind led her to flee 1,7000 miles from Pittsburgh to Puerto Rico.

Born in Ross Township in Pennsylvania, she had been a straight-A student and spent time as a model, a dance instructor and an elevator operator at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh before her mental health deteriorated in 1984.

Several years later, she had lost her job and began to roam the city’s streets. Patricia would tell anyone that listened that she was one of God’s “bondservants” on earth.

Her feet were so damaged from her wandering that her sister had urged her, in vain, to go to hospital. Patricia always maintained a neat appearance, with make-up and a long dress or skirt, when she preached on the streets but was frequently described as ‘”eccentric” by many people – including her own husband.

They had met near a river in Pittsburgh where Bob had a boat and offered her and her friends a ride. The pair married in 1972. It was a decade later when Bob noticed his wife’s mental health deteriorate.

In the months leading to her disappearance, Patricia had been diagnosed with “delusions of grandeur” by a doctor who suspected she could have schizophrenia.

One theory police discussed was “concerned she was going to be institutionalised” and fled America as a result.

“After 30 years, you try to forget about it,” Bob told reporters when pressed on a potential reason for his wife’s vanishing act. “Now, I can forget about it. We know what happened, and she is taken care of now. She could have come home any time. But that’s what she wanted. She always said she wanted to go to a warm climate.”

Patricia’s husband and sister address the press after she was found

Patricia’s sister Gloria rushed to Puerto Rico to visit her sibling as soon as the DNA test came back positive and she was given Patricia’s address.

“We’re very thankful to know that Patty is alive and well,” Gloria told local news outlet WMTW.

“She’s being well taken care of. We really thought she was dead all those years. It was a very big shock to know that she’s still alive.”

It’s not fully certain what Patricia did for the full 31 years she had been classed as a missing person. It is thought she walked around Puerto Rico’s northern towns of Naranjito, Corozal and Toa Alta, to the southwest of the capital of San Juan, during her time on the Caribbean island.

According to police, she told locals she came to Puerto Rico on a cruise ship from Europe.

While the name of Patricia’s nursing home has never been revealed, one photo of the pensioner taken at the home has been shared.

Enzo Maresca has been appointed as the new head coach of Chelsea Football Club

Enzo Maresca has been appointed as the new head coach of Chelsea Football Club.

The Italian, who guided Leicester to the Championship title, takes over from Mauricio Pochettino, who mutually parted ways with the club after one season.

Maresca’s arrival is part of Chelsea’s strategic restructuring, marking the sixth managerial change under the ownership of Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, and Jose Feliciano.

Maresca brings with him an experienced six-strong backroom staff, including former Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero as his assistant.

Stay tuned for the official unveiling later this week as Maresca gears up to lead the Blues into the future.

In a statement, he said: “To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity.

I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”

Chelsea’s ownership group added: “We are thrilled to welcome Enzo into the Chelsea family. We look forward to supporting him and the rest of the sporting team in fulfilling their potential and our expectations over the years to come.

Highly regarded for his coaching prowess and leadership abilities, Maresca’s track record speaks volumes.

Previously managing Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, he clinched the Premier League 2 title with promising talents like Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia.

However, his senior management debut with Parma in Italy was short-lived, marred by a string of unfavorable results.

Despite this setback, he returned to Manchester City as one of Pep Guardiola’s trusted assistants.

Last summer, Maresca took on the challenge of leading Leicester City following their Premier League relegation.

Despite facing late-season challenges amidst financial distractions, he steered the Foxes back to the top flight, securing promotion with an impressive record of 31 wins out of 46 matches.

A Leicester statement read: “Given the promising foundations established during his single season in charge, the club is disappointed that Enzo has decided at this stage that he no longer wants to be part of our vision.

World awaits the White House’s comprehensive immigration decree

0

President Joe Biden is poised to issue a comprehensive new executive order from the White House targeting the influx of migrants at the US-Mexico border, possibly as soon as Tuesday.

According to CBS, the order aims to expedite the deportation process for individuals entering the US unlawfully, bypassing asylum procedures once a daily threshold is reached.

This measure is intended to enable border officials to manage and restrict migrant arrivals more effectively, as outlined by three unnamed sources familiar with the forthcoming order.

Despite a significant decline in migrant arrivals this year, which some experts believe may not be sustainable, more than 6.4 million migrants have been intercepted crossing into the US illegally during Biden’s tenure—a historic high that has rendered him politically vulnerable as he seeks reelection.

Reports from CBS and other US media outlets suggest that Biden is considering leveraging a 1952 law to limit access to the American asylum system.

The law, known as 212(f), allows the US president to “suspend the entry” of foreigners if their arrival is “detrimental to the interests” of the country.

The Trump administration previously employed the same regulation to implement immigration and travel bans from several predominantly Muslim nations and to deny asylum to migrants apprehended crossing into the US unlawfully, prompting allegations of racism.

However, asylum processing at official ports of entry is anticipated to remain unaffected by the forthcoming order.

Approximately 1,500 asylum seekers utilise the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) app, CBP One, to schedule appointments and undergo processing daily at these ports.

Ahead of the president’s announcement, mayors from various border towns, such as Brownsville and Edinburg in Texas, were slated to attend the event in Washington.

Democratic lawmakers have reportedly been briefed on the plan, though the proposal is expected to face legal challenges, either from immigration advocates or Republican-led states.

A White House official informed the BBC on Friday that no definitive decisions had been reached regarding potential executive actions. Additionally, a White House spokesperson highlighted the failure of a bipartisan border security agreement earlier this year, citing opposition from Republicans in Congress.

“While Congressional Republicans chose to stand in the way of additional border enforcement, President Biden will not stop fighting to deliver the resources that border and immigrational personnel need to secure our border,” the spokesperson said.

“As we have said before, the administration continues to explore a series of policy options and we remain committed to taking action to address our broken immigration system,” the spokesperson added.

Republicans have criticized President Biden’s border plan as a political tactic for the upcoming election year, arguing that existing US laws already address illegal immigration but are not adequately enforced by the Democratic administration.

This critique emerges amid decreasing numbers of migrant detentions at the US-Mexico border. According to recent CBP statistics, approximately 179,000 migrant “encounters” were documented in April, a notable decrease compared to the historic high of 302,000 recorded in December.

Both US and Mexican officials attribute this decline largely to increased enforcement efforts by Mexican authorities, although experts caution that these reductions may not be sustainable in the long term.

The decline in migrant crossings at the US border coincides with a politically sensitive period for President Biden, as immigration emerges as a key electoral concern for many voters in the upcoming November presidential election.

A Gallup poll conducted at the end of April revealed that 27% of Americans consider immigration the most pressing issue facing the country, surpassing concerns about the economy and inflation.

Claudia Sheinbaum elected as Mexico’s first female president

In a historic landslide victory, Claudia Sheinbaum has become Mexico’s first female president.

Preliminary results released by Mexico’s official electoral authority indicate that the 61-year-old former mayor of Mexico City secured between 58% and 60% of the vote in Sunday’s election, giving her a significant lead of approximately 30 percentage points over her primary rival, businesswoman Xóchitl Gálvez.

Sheinbaum is set to succeed her mentor, outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on October 1st. Her election marks an emotional milestone for many.

As a former energy scientist, Sheinbaum has pledged to maintain continuity by building upon the “advances” initiated by López Obrador, particularly emphasising the expansion of welfare programmes that contributed to his popularity.

However, in her victory speech, she also underscored the unique aspects of this Mexican election compared to previous ones.

She told cheering voters: “For the first time in the 200 years of the [Mexican] Republic, I will become the first woman president of Mexico.”

She said it was an achievement not just for her but for all women.
“I’ve said it from the start: this is not just about me getting [to the top office], it’s about all of us getting here.”
She added: “I won’t fail you.”

Xóchitl Gálvez, Ms. Sheinbaum’s rival, graciously conceded victory, a gesture acknowledged by the president-elect. Prior to her presidential bid, Sheinbaum held the esteemed position of mayor of Mexico City, widely regarded as a stepping stone to the presidency.

Sheinbaum, whose maternal grandparents sought refuge in Mexico from Bulgaria during World War II, boasts an impressive scientific background before entering politics.

Raised by parents immersed in science, Sheinbaum pursued physics before earning a doctorate in energy engineering.

Her expertise in climate change, cultivated during years spent at a prestigious research lab in California, propelled her into the role of secretary of the environment for Mexico City under Mayor Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s leadership.

Sheinbaum made history in 2018 as Mexico City’s first female mayor, a position she held until 2023, when she resigned to pursue the presidency.

Addressing Mexico’s pressing issue of cartel violence will be among her foremost challenges.

She advocates addressing the underlying causes of violence and vows to invest in welfare programmes to dissuade impoverished youth from joining criminal organisations.

On the diplomatic front, Sheinbaum pledges to foster a relationship of friendship, mutual respect, and equality with the United States, while vowing to staunchly defend Mexican interests across the border.

Relations with the US strained during López Obrador’s tenure, but his endorsement significantly bolstered Sheinbaum’s campaign, drawing support from voters who favour Morena’s anti-poverty agenda.

Thirty British MPs ask David Cameron for London’s support for Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara

0

Around thirty British parliamentarians and Lords sent a letter this Friday to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Cameron, in which they call, in a bipartisan approach, on the British executive to support ”officially and without delay” the plan of Moroccan autonomy as the ”only solution” to the artificial conflict around the Moroccan Sahara.

In addition to being the “most pragmatic” path, the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco for the Sahara, which “respects local traditions and democratic aspirations, offers a viable solution to achieve peace and lasting stability,” underlined the deputies and members of the House of Lords.

While recalling that the initiative is “widely supported” by London’s allies and more than 80 countries around the world, the signatories specified that the rallying around this plan, which constitutes “the only realistic solution”, testifies to the desire of international partners to promote regional stability and prosperity, “thus reinforcing the central role of the autonomy initiative in advancing peace efforts”. “There must be no room for more separatism or division,” they insisted, assuring that on the contrary, Morocco’s “proactive commitment to promoting regional security and stability must be reinforced”.

“Remaining neutral or attempting alternative resolutions can only perpetuate a harmful status quo that endangers the security of the region,” they argued.

While several of them visited Morocco and its Southern Provinces, where they had the opportunity to meet local leaders, representatives of civil society and human rights organizations, the signatories said their observations, coupled with those of respected academics such as Professor Marc Weller, Chair of International Law and International Constitutional Studies at the University of Cambridge, reinforce their “belief that the UK must provide proactive support to Morocco’s autonomy plan.

Additionally, the Sahara region has the potential to significantly improve energy opportunities, secure supply chains, and enable access to new markets, they wrote, citing strategic infrastructure, e.g. of the “impressive” port of Dakhla, as proof of sustainable progress, allowing the region to establish itself as a pole of innovation and international cooperation.

To fully realize this potential, “London must provide support from its financial institutions, such as UK export finance (UKEF) and British international investment (BII)”, they continued, recalling that this approach, adopted in particular by the United States and France, is compatible with the association agreement concluded between the two countries (UK and Morocco), which covers the Moroccan Sahara region and which was deemed legal by the High Court in London.

The MPs added that the United Kingdom must strengthen its alliances with stable, like-minded nations “in order to promote regional stability and international security”, ensuring that among these partner nations, Morocco “occupies a preponderant place”. “It is a leading strategic ally in North Africa, which shares crucial values and perspectives for our two countries,” they continued.
The forthcoming strategic dialogue between the UK and Morocco represents a unique opportunity for the UK to redefine its role and influence in the region, the signatories noted, assuring us that “Morocco deserves our full and unequivocal support”.

LUNGU’S FAMILY MUST PROVE THEIR INNOCENCE IN COURT NOT IN THE MEDIA – ROMEO KANGOMBE

A thief will never accept being a thief even when caught red-handed in the act. This is why we have courts to prove. No one expects Edgar Lungu to go on radio to admit that he acquired his wealth through corruption.

Edgar Lungu who has refused to have interviews with the local media, is busy trying to prove his innocence to the international media. Last time he bluntly lied to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that he was under arrest. A fortnight ago he lied to the Voice of America (VoA) that he was a top notch lawyer before becoming President. It is public domain that Lungu was just a drunkard in Chawama before he was adopted as Member of Parliament under the Patriotic Front.

In 2010 Mr Lungu had his law practicing license suspended by the Law Association of Zambia for stealing a client’s money? These are facts on record. It is the so called topnotch lawyer who misled ministers to remain in office after the dissolution of Parliament. Edgar Lungu is a disgraced lawyer and a conman.

We challenge Mr Lungu to appeal to PF members of Parliaments to move a motion to remove his immunity so that he can prove his innocence in court. Lungu must be ashamed of admitting that he was using the office of Presidency to enrich his family and not to serve the people.

We are struggling with debt restructuring because a when topnotch lawyer was President he borrowed money and used the funds to enrich his family, friends and concubines.

It was under the so called topnotch lawyer (conman) that we saw a total breakdown on the rule of law. Cadres became more powerful that our men and women in uniform. Citizens were being retired in national interest based on ethnicity, citizens were gassed and the opposition political parties were suppressed.

Edgar Lungu has no shame to even appeal to President Hakainde Hichilema to restore law and order. Sometimes I feel this guy is not normal upstairs. Does he really think we have forgotten how he ruled this country? Maybe he is suffering from dementia.

VIOLENCE: HICHILEMA AND UPND’S FALLBACK PLAN

VIOLENCE: HICHILEMA AND UPND’S FALLBACK PLAN

It is evident that Mr Hakainde Hichilema has resolved to adopt and administer violence and cadreism as a fallback plan to mitigate the monumental political and socioeconomic failures the country is experiencing under his leadership.

We have persistently catalogued the UPND’s history of ugly and barbaric politics. We have seen and shown how violence and all other forms of political oppression and criminality are being committed by the UPND cadres led by identifiable individuals some of them serving Cabinet Ministers and senior party officials with full protection of the police.

We have evidence of how well-known UPND cadres have been abducting or kidnapping, knifing, assaulting, beating and publicly threatening to “slaughter” opposition political leaders and other critical voices in the name of protecting Mr Hichilema with the police paying a blind eye. And how our numerous complaints and reports to the police on these incidences have been ignored.

It’s now a trend that whenever a report is made to the police, it’s us, the victims of Mr Hichilema’s cadres’ violence who get locked up and are prosecuted. This is the impunity that the perpetrators of such crimes are enjoying for their crimes with the help and support of the police.

And both Mr Hichilema’s regime and the police have been denying these reports of violence at the hands of UPND cadres, including moments when identifiable UPND cadres have held press briefings, and appeared on radio and television aggressively threatening to physically harm and kill opposition leaders of this country.

But as they say, lies have short legs. Lies are unsustainable. Mr Hichilema and his violent gang can no longer pretend. They can no longer be subtle or lie about their violent nature. Pressure is mounting, and it has forced them to openly unleash the UPND’s architecture of violence and cadreism on citizens. Machetes, knives, and all manner of makeshift weaponry is out on the streets in defence of Mr Hichilema and his ‘good policies’. Their intention is to harm or beat dissenting voices of ordinary citizens into silence.

Mr Hichilema has deliberately charged the political environment to create an atmosphere of fear, human insecurity, and ultimately induce self-censorship among citizens, political players, civil society, religious and traditional leaders, and other critical voices.

There is plenty of quantitative evidence of victims of violence and the kind of violence meted out, including the weaponization of the law against citizens, activists, and political stakeholders. There is a general lack of human security in Zambia today owing to Mr Hichilema and the UPND’s deliberate policy of violence.

With the help of the police, they have committed to threatening, harming, and beat citizens into total submission. But for how long? What dividends will be gained from this persistent violence, intimidation, and abuse of the police?

The truth is, Mr Hichilema will not succeed on this dangerous and tragic path he has set this country on. In the end, the people shall triumph. The people shall free themselves from this evil turn in our country’s politics. A solution to these problems Mr Hichilema is creating, this wanton abuse and nerve-wracking trajectory will be found by the people themselves. The people shall decide the end of this evil phase.

In fact, the more Mr Hichilema and his gang become atrocious and thirsty for bloodshed, the more citizens become resolute to close this dark chapter in our nation’s political history. We know it’s rough for Mr Hichilema and his gang. We know they’ve failed to deliver on their promises. We know they’re afraid of losing power and are now desperate for survival.

But unleashing cadres with machetes, knifes, stones, knobkerries and all manner of improved weaponry on the streets, on peace loving Zambians, in the style we have witnessed lately, will actually accelerate the actualization of what Mr Hichilema presently fears the most – the loss of power. It will happen so quickly, and no brutality, threats, lies, or narrative will save them.

Violence can only bury them and not save them!

And for Mr Graphael Musamba, the Inspector General of Police, he is a monumental failure. He has failed the country with his open bias, cowardice, opportunism, and lack of professionalism in dealing with citizens and Mr Hichilema’s critics. Under his supervision, the system of the police has totally collapsed to the extent that, it can no longer protect citizens, motivate the rank and file of the police service, and in the end, citizens have lost confidence, trust and respect in the police. The police are no longer viewed as protectors but part of the oppressors. What a colossal failure? What a legacy?

We see the disappointment, frustration, and pain on the faces of these police officers they’ve been sending to execute illegal orders against fellow citizens. We actually sympathize with these dedicated, visionary, and patriotic young Zambians they’re abusing, who have been let down by a highly compromised and unprincipled high command.

But filapwa, elo fikapwa nombaline, nishita fye!

ISAAC MWANZA PUSHES COURT FOR LGBTQ RIGHTS

Zambia Constitutional Court Faces Landmark LGBTQ+ Rights Case

The Constitutional Court of Zambia is set to hear a landmark case challenging the constitutionality of Section 155 of the Penal Code, which criminalizes “carnal knowledge against the order of nature.” The petition has been filed by prominent governance activist Isaac Mwanza and the Zambian Civil Liberties Union (ZCLU), a non-profit human rights organization.

The petitioners are arguing that the vague and ambiguous language of Section 155, which does not clearly define what constitutes acts “against the order of nature,” is unconstitutional as it violates the principle of legal certainty enshrined in the Zambian Constitution. They allege that the law is being used to discriminate against LGBTQ+ individuals, in contravention of the Constitution’s guarantee of equality and non-discrimination.

The case also challenges the use of invasive and degrading forensic anal examinations conducted by the police to gather evidence of alleged “unnatural offences.” The petitioners argue that such practices violate the constitutional right to human dignity.

Furthermore, the petitioners assert that Section 155 unreasonably restricts the private sexual conduct of consenting adults, infringing on their constitutional rights to privacy, freedom of conscience, and personal autonomy.

At the heart of the case is the question of whether the law’s broad and vague language around the “order of nature” is unconstitutionally ambiguous, and whether the law’s selective application to same-sex conduct amounts to unlawful discrimination. The issue of gay rights has been a contentious one in Zambia, with leaders in the previous administrations defending the existence of these laws on the basis of the country’s status as a Christian nation questions as to the ruling UPND stance on this are now loud as the petitioner Isaac Mwanza is an alleged UPND sympathiser.

The petitioners are seeking a declaration that Section 155 is unconstitutional, and are urging the court to either repeal the provision or provide a clear and exhaustive list of the sexual acts that are considered to be in accordance with the “order of nature.”

The case has drawn significant attention in Zambia, where there has been ongoing debate and controversy over the application of the law against LGBTQ+ individuals and activists. The court’s ruling could have far-reaching implications for the protection of LGBTQ+ rights and the advancement of constitutional principles of equality, non-discrimination, and personal freedom in the country.

UPND’S SESHEKE MP ROMEO KANG’OMBE CALLS FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU A THIEF

Police and UPND Should Handle Thugs Terrorizing Citizens Just Like Those Inciting Tribal War Are Being Dealt with by the Law

Dear Inspector General of Police,

In the past week, we have witnessed two unfortunate incidents involving cadres allegedly associated with the UPND, despite party leaders distancing themselves from these individuals. The first incident involved masked thugs hurling insults at the former president. Secondly, we observed some cadres brandishing machetes. Those thugs were supposed to be booked for public nuisance immediately and clean the streets.

Some of us don’t agree with former president Mr. Edgar and his colleagues, but showering him with such insults is not right. President Hakainde Hichilema, was treated in this similar manner by PF cadres and some of us denounced it. The law should hold him accountable for the wrongs he did but not such insults. Let all those who offended pass through the due legal process.

Mr. Inspector General, this is reminiscent of the chaos that began under the previous administration, and no right-thinking Zambian today wants to see such lawlessness. It is imperative that the police take full responsibility for our national internal security rather than allowing such duties to fall into the hands of thugs. We don’t want these thugs to also grow wings and start urinating into citizens mouths as it was in the past. It just starts like this thus you must be concerned.

The outcome of this negligence could be dire, with thugs potentially attacking police officers or desecrating police premises. We must restore order and sanity in our country. Please ensure that the police force maintains control over security matters and prevents political thugs from assuming duties meant for trained officers.

Furthermore, the UPND provincial and youth leadership must also take responsibility. As the ruling party, UPND leaders should be concerned if individuals are causing trouble in the party’s name. It is essential to demand that those involved face immediate action by law enforcement, including those propagating hate speech. Many of us are still traumatized by the violence we witnessed under the previous administration.

One significant measure of the difference between the past president and the current one is their respective political will to stop thugs from terrorizing citizens. Since 2021, the president has consistently denounced thuggery, in stark contrast to what we saw in the past. Youth leaders, this responsibility falls on you. You know your members, and if these troublemakers are not UPND members, you should question the police’s tolerance.

Zambians rose against thuggery politics in 2021, and they certainly do not wish to see weapons in the wrong hands again. UPND leaders, it is your responsibility to help build a positive image of the president. It is in such incidents that you need to demonstrate your commitment to preserving the president’s reputation.

Thank you for your attention to these urgent matters.

Sincerely,

SIKAILE C SIKAILE

Oasis Forum Press Conference to Criticize the President

Oasis Forum Press Conference to Criticize the President

Sources have revealed that the Oasis Forum will hold a press conference tomorrow, June 3, 2024, where they will focus on criticizing President Hakainde Hichilema, than on his opponents.

Accusations Against the President

The Forum will accuse the President of lacking inclusivity and marginalizing certain regions in the public service. They Forum will officially recognize the term “Zambezi Region,” coined by Fred M’membe and Sishuwa Sishuwa, alleging it as a region the President favors in appointments to government and quasi-government positions. The sources say the Forum will deliberately ignore historical perspective of a public service that was and is still dominated by everyone else other than from the newly coined Zambezi region.

Lack of Evidence

The source further reveals that the Oasis Forum will not present any evidence for the alleged biased appointments but will justify the recent “divisive” statements from the architects of tribalism and alleged unbalanced public service, as a protest against the so called marginalization of the North-East.

President’s Stance

The assertions from Oasis Forum will blatantly ignore that President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration has largely kept the civil service, local authorities, and quasi-government organizations intact with officials from the previous regime. This has continually drawn criticism from his party loyalists, but for the sake of national unity, the President has remained steadfast in this position.

Furthermore, of the 8 nominated MPs, the President has reserved 5 positions for the North – East Region, while elected MPs Chipoka Mulenga, Frank Tayali and Paul Kabuswe and Mtolo Phiri from the same area have been given Cabinet positions by the President. It would therefore be fair to say the North – East Region dominates Cabinet which government’s Supreme decision making body.

Divisive Statements

Sources said the Forum resolved not to publicly identify or shame the authors of what they discussed as ethnicity and tribal war mongering. They agreed to be diplomatic and termed the happenings as “divisive” statements but will not define the term “divisive.”

Ethnic Hate Speech

The source indicates that the Oasis Forum will attempt to equate ethnic hate speech directed at a tribe with hate speech against an individual. All this is in a bid to cast public doubt on the law enforcement clamp down on ethnicity divide which has heightened with the support of former President Edgar Lungu as an opposition political party member.

Policy Inconsistency

The sources said the Forum will also highlight what they perceive as policy inconsistency in President Hichilema’s government and cite the contradictory statements by ZESCO and the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) on tariff and fuel increments.

The source says one of the members objected to this being included saying this administration has encouraged Boards to be independent of politicians by removing Permanent Secretaries from the Boards. A heated discussion followed this guidance where it was pointed out that the ERB Board which passed a vote of no confidence in their Chairperson after such contradictions was an example of good governance and was actually deputised by seasoned lawyer.

Foreign Affairs Vacancy

At the planned press conference, the Forum will raise concerns about the vacant position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, disregarding that this is at the President’s discretion. They will also accuse government of prioritising activities that alleviate citizens hardships as a result of drought and will say such monetary resources should have been used on constitutional reforms process.

Constitutional Reforms

The sources said this will embarrass LAZ, a member of OASIS Forum. The source said LAZ could not speak out on the matter, because at the 2023 LAZ AGM in Livingstone, constitutional lawyer John Sangwa and other lawyers recommended to government to prioritise economic stability and recovery against constitutional reforms. The sources said this resolution which will be ignored was widely reported in the media.

Composition of the Oasis Forum

The sources said the press conference tomorrow will largely be driven by over powering financial interests from certain voiceferous organisations which are suspected to be benefitting from known political groupings.

The Oasis Forum comprises the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), and the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB).

Post 2021 elections, citizens consistently called on civil society and religious bodies to lead in ensuring they are representative of the ethnic and tribal diversity of the Country.

Most associations in the Oasis Forum have failed to justify the ethnic composition of their leadership, resulting in a long standing perception that there are major and minor tribes in Zambia.

The sources say this perception accounts for the hegemonic agenda that President Mwanawasa suffered and now is against President Hichilema, who hails from the South.

LUNGU REFUSES TO COMMENT ON JAY JAY BANDA

LUNGU REFUSES TO COMMENT ON JAY JAY BANDA

UKWA group leader Edgar Lungu has refused to comment on the so called abduction of his thug Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda.

Lungu knows the truth that he is the one who was keeping this character with the view of causing war in Zambia and then see him ascend to power.

Today, he however says that he cannot comment on Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda’s PF and self abduction on grounds that it is a subject of investigations.

If Lungu is this scared to comment on this matter now compared to the way he was parroting himself, we then wonder why some loose brains are going all over their master is safeguarding his mouth and knows that he is part of the ring leaders.

As for the tribalists currently going to jail for inciting tribal war and sedition, Lungu completely became numb as he as doesn’t want to comment because he is the the number one beneficiary of this tribal war.

As for us, we maintain that Lungu is the one who abducted this thug. Forget the hallucinations being cooked out there because soon, the same Jay Jay will deny accusing wrong people.

Government must not relent and feel sorry for law breakers because had these criminals succeeded in their failed war attempt, they were going to say that the UPND government has failed to run the country and they were going to take over using underhand means.

For us we know that Lungu had abducted Jay Jay Banda and this was their drama and criminal plan but we insist that he must tell the Nation who abducted him and the security wings must not dance to his fake KUNYU and demanding to be in a comfortable hospital bed while bitter and tribalist old Sikota is busy feeding people with lies.

I PRACTICE CLEAN POLITICS- HON MUNDUBILE

I PRACTICE CLEAN POLITICS- HON MUNDUBILE.

LUSAKA…..Sunday, June 2, 2024. [SMART EAGLES]

Mporokoso Member of Parliament Hon Brian Mundubile says he practices clean politics and that at no time would he want to defame people unfairly.

Hon Mundubile said that is why statements of hate speech ought to be condemned.

In the recent weeks, some UPND members at various Pressers, made remarks and threats targeted at different individuals such as Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda, Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and other opposition figures.

Several Members of Parliament among them Hon Mundubile condemned such acts and carefully called out individuals thought to have made such statements to retract them.

Arising from this, Hon Mundubile has since been summoned to appear before the Police in Solwezi following a complaint from an Individual Named Bruce Kanema.

And Hon Mundubile said: “If you followed the interviews so closesly, I called on all those that were making statements inciting violence and propagating hate speech. I talked about Hon Charles Milupi, I talked about Treveor Mwiinde, I talked about Bruce Kanema because all these names appeared in videos making threats as it were.”

He said what ought to be condemned are the statements of hate speech.

Hon Mundubile said if the person in the company of Bruce Kanema was the one who made those insulting statements, then bruce kanema should not have been the one but call out the person that made the statements as it were.

“I consequently mentioned several names that appeared on those Press Brieifings. Of course in the process, there are statements that can be attributed to one but yet having been made by another. And in that case it could be a case of mistaken identity.

In the case of Bruce Kanema, if those statements attributed to him were not made by him but the person that appeared with him, then of course that could be regrettable. If in the video, the statements made threats against Jay Jay Banda were not made by Bruce Kanema then that is regrettable, I would not have wanted to join into that,” he said.

Sermon on Tribalism

Sermon on Tribalism

By Godfrey Chitalu

In recent times, tribal talk has reared its ugly head, threatening the unity and peace that Zambia has cherished for decades. This rising tide of divisive rhetoric is not just a cancer to our harmony but a direct assault on the very fabric of our nation.

As a Zambian who speaks and understands a multitude of languages, including Lozi, Bisa, Kaonde, Lunda, Luvale, Bisa, Chewa, Tumbuka, Lala Ngumbo, Soli, Lungu, Namwanga, Swaka, and Lenje, I stand resolutely against this dangerous trend.

I vividly remember the time my Lozi friend Mwanangono bought a coffin for a family member while I was far away in Lundazi. This act of compassion transcended any tribal boundaries and reaffirmed our shared humanity. It’s moments like these that remind us that our strength lies in our unity, not in the artificial divisions of tribe.

Our nation is a beautiful mosaic of cultures and languages from Imwiko to Eggichikeni. My experiences—from translating Tumbuka when we started Radio Chikaya as the 90s – were expiring to daily enjoying Tonga dishes; Mabisi and Musohya, and greeting friends in Lunda—highlight the interconnectedness that makes Zambia unique.

Having visited over a hundred districts, I can attest that each corner of our country offers something valuable and unique.

This commitment to learning and embracing different cultures has enriched my life and deepened my connection to every part of Zambia.

However, to truly win the fight against tribalism, we must ensure that hate speech arrests are not selective. As an apolitical Christian, I believe in fairness and justice for all.

Everyone involved in spreading hate speech must be held accountable, regardless of their political affiliation, without waiting for cagey witnesses. This even-handed approach is crucial if we are to foster genuine unity and eradicate tribalism.

Tribalism is a cancer that erodes the bonds of unity and undermines our collective progress. We must rise above these petty distinctions and celebrate our differences as strengths rather than weaknesses.

I learnt when I started Makani Etu a Soli publication in the 90s that our diverse cultures are not barriers but threads that weave the rich tapestry of Zambia.

By embracing this diversity, we pave the way for a more united, peaceful, and prosperous nation. I have good memories of Chipata, where the advent of the new millennium saw us launch Kwacha Kummawa, a Chewa newspaper.

In the face of tribal talk, let us stand firm and resolute. Let us champion the cause of unity and reject any attempts to divide us.

Together, we can build a more united, resilient, and harmonious Zambia for generations to come. Both choir members and praise singers can sing one song!
