In 2019 HH As Opposition Leader Called For Early Elections, I Did Not Arrest Him- Edgar Lungu

0

hFellow Country Men, Women and the Youth.

In 2019, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, (HH) as opposition leader called for early elections and justified his calls as “in all democracies, the people have the right and power to call for early elections if they deem fit and justifiable”. He was correct indeed because there is a precedence to this effect in this country.

In 1991, the Zambian economy was in serious distress and near total collapse. Life for all of us who were there at the time was unbearable.
The people compelled Dr Kenneth Kaunda, our founding president, to call for early elections in 1991 instead of 1993. In that early election, Fredrick Chiluba and his MMD emerged as winners, and Dr Kaunda lost that election and handed over power peacefully.

Last week, l equally made a similar call for early elections given the current economic crisis and increasing high cost of living that has continued to harshly bite our people throughout Mr Hakainde’s clear-cut misrule. Many Zambians and non alike feel this way and agree with me that, indeed, the UPND regime has failed to deliver on their promises and governing in non stop pilot mode.

Like KK in 1991, our president can agree to these calls and facilitate for early elections or like I did during my time in office, he can justify with undeniable cause why we all must wait for 2026 as per constitutional schedule. In a democracy, it is all about dialogue and exchange of views!

Yesterday, the British Prime Minister, Mr Rishi Sunak, got approval from the British Monarch to dissolve parliament. Consequently, the Prime Minister announced that early elections will be held in the coming month of July, on the 4th of July 2024.

From the aforementioned, it is evidently clear that the call for early elections is a normal political pattern not only in Zambia but also in the United Kingdom and other democratic jurisdictions. In all democracies, power belongs to the people, and those occupying public offices are mere caretakers.

My appeal to the Zambian government is to respect the people, practice political tolerance, uphold the constitution, and ensure that peace, law and order prevails across our sovereign motherland. This is crucially important for our national unity and collective prosperity.

Zambia’s ex-President Lungu under house arrest, he says

The former leader is making emphatic return to politics ahead of 2026 elections Zambia’s former President Edgar Lungu has said that he was “practically under house arrest”, accusing police of a plot to forcefully detain him “for no reason”. Mr Lungu said police were mobilising to arrest him at night from his residence in the capital, Lusaka.

It comes a few days after the former leader was quoted as saying that there could be a change of government in the country before the 2026 general election.

Police chief Graphael Musamba said Mr Lungu would be summoned to explain his statement, local media reported.

Mr Lungu announced a comeback to politics last October, prompting the government to withdraw his retirement benefits.

Ex-Zambia President Lungu makes political comeback He had retired from politics after losing the presidency to Hakainde Hichilema in 2021.

The former leader has been accusing the government of victimising him and members of his Patriotic Front (PF) party to block his return to politics. His wife, former First Lady Esther Lungu, has been accused of corruption involving cases of theft of motor vehicles and title deeds. She denies the allegations The government has denied targeting Mr Lungu and asked him to give his successor time to deliver his campaign promises.

On Wednesday, Mr Lungu said he had been subject to numerous unconstitutional actions by the state after leaving office. He claimed police were under instructions to “ambush me at night, abduct, embarrass, and forcefully detain me like a hardcore criminal”.

“As far as I am aware, I have not committed any crime that would warrant the government, through the police, to start scheming against me in this manner,” Mr Lungu added.

It is not clear if there is still a police presence at his home on Thursday and police did not immediately respond to BBC inquiries on the matter.

But the presidency has argued in the past that it respects human rights and does not interfere in the operations of the police.

Attending a church service last Sunday, Mr Lungu warned of a regime change before the next election, saying “a baby can be born before nine months”.
Information Minister Cornelius Mweetwa said the government was “carefully studying” Mr Lungu’s remarks, terming them “hair-raising and startling”.
It comes a few days after the police warned that Mr Lungu risked being arrested and prosecuted for “engaging in activities that disrupt public order and safety”.

A crowd of people thronged around him as he walked around the streets of Lusaka two weeks ago, ostensibly to assess the reported high cost of doing business in the city.

In February, the former president asked citizens to call for an early election, accusing his successor of failing to manage the economy.

The former leader was last year warned against jogging in public, as police described his weekly workouts as “political activism”.

Meanwhile, a human rights body has called on the Zambian government to quash the conviction of an opposition official two weeks ago for apparently defaming the president. Raphael Nakacinda, a senior PF official, was sentenced on 17 May for his 2021 remarks, alleging that President Hichilema had coerced judges into passing judgments favourable to him.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Nakacinda’s 18-month prison sentence would have “a broad chilling effect” on the right to freedom of expression in Zambia.

The Zambian government is yet to respond on the HRW statement.

EDGAR LUNGU’S GREATEST ENEMY IS HIS MOUTH – ROMEO KANGOMBE

EDGAR LUNGU’S GREATEST ENEMY IS HIS MOUTH – ROMEO KANGOMBE

The United Party for National Development (UPND) will not fall for Edgar Lungu’s political stunts and gymnastics. Realizing his grave mistake at a political meeting disguised as a prayer meeting at Dunamis, Lungu claims he has intelligence of information that the police plan to arrest him. you don’t need intelligence information to know that when you commit a crime you must face the law.

Respect is never given it must be earned. If former President Edgar Lungu wants to be respected, he must behave in a responsible and dignified manner. His attention seeking stunts and rantings will not help him. “A fish is caught by its mouth”

It was Edgar Lungu himself who revealed to the Nation that he was working on overthrowing President Hakainde Hichilema before 2026 elections and made it clear that he was not joking about it. The President has not responded to these revelations, but Edgar Lungu responded to himself with accusations that the state is planning to arrest him. This is the behavior of cowards, when they mess up then they start seeking public sympathy.

Lungu is a coward who is afraid of his own shadow. He is being haunted by what he did to Hakainde Hichilema when he (Lungu) was President. He raided Hakainde Hichilema’s residence at night without a call-out. Tortured the workers, tear gassed the whole house and defecated around the residence. Where was the rule of law that Lungu is crying about? Edgar Lungu is living in fear because of what he did to others. Lungu was ruthless and never respected the rule of law. The Easterner say “Masiku ni panyo pa tambala”

Edgar Lungu has no immunity to commit crimes and he is not above the law. If he thinks he can ride on the high cost of living to cause anarchy in the country, he will be bruised. Whatever confusion that he is planning will end at his doorstep. Some of us are just restrained by President Hakainde Hichilema but we are ready to meet the serpent head-on. Our wounds are still fresh and it’s so painful seeing Edgar Lungu teasing us about the rule of law.

Zambia is bigger than Lungu and a bunch of clowns surrounding him. We will not allow anarchy in this country. President Hakainde Hichilema must not be distracted by the serpent tactics, he must focus on developing the country.

GUARDIAN OF TUTWA’S 14 CHILDREN SEEKS INJUNCTION AGAINST DISTRIBUTION OF ESTATE

GUARDIAN OF TUTWA’S 14 CHILDREN SEEKS INJUNCTION AGAINST DISTRIBUTION OF ESTATE

A GUARDIAN of the late Tutwa Ngulube’s children born out of marriage has requested the High Court to stop his sister and widow from distributing his estate unfairly until the matter before Court is resolved.

Chuma Kuntepa say the distributor’s year has elapsed since the administratrix were appointed to manage the estate hence they have no power distribute Ngulube’s wealth until the same is renewed.

In this matter Kuntepa has sued the late Ngulube’s sister Tawanda Tafwakose Ngulube and his widow Mupeta Glenda Sokontwe who are administratrix of his estate, demanding that his properties be equally shared among his children.

Suing of behalf the children as their guardian, Kuntepa wants the Court to order that the distribution of the estate to the minors be done under the strict and direct supervision of the Administrator General.

Kuntepa is seeking an order that, shares for some beneficiaries should be transferred to the minors.

In an affidavit in support of ex-parte summons for an interim injunction Kuntepa said she sought various reliefs from the court including an order that the distribution of the Estate to the minors be done under the strict and direct supervision of the Administrator general.

She said she also filed an application for the respondents to render an account and inventory of the estate of the late Tutwa Ngulube.

“The matter was heard on Feb 14 and was reserved for ruling to be delivered on April 4,2024,” Kuntepa said.

She stated that affer the matter was heard by the court, Tutwa’s sister and widow quickly engaged evaluators and evaluated the estate by the end of April 2024 and delivered copies of the evaluations to one of the mothers of the minors, in readiness to illegally and unfairly distribute the estate.

Kuntepa said Tawanda and Mupeta then engaged in an attempt to illegally and unfairly distribute the estate to the disadvantage of the minors on April 19 ,2024.

She said their action would not only undermine the authority of the court but put the court into disrepute as the matter is yet to be determined.

“The conduct of the respondents would interfere with the performance of a judicial function by this court and would render the decision of this court an academic exercise,” she said.

“Since the inception if this matter the respondents have acted with bias towards the minors by deliberately delaying attending the needs of the said minors and acting with hostility towards them.”

She said the executors year elasped on March 7, 2024 as the respondents were granted letters of appointment of administrators on March 7, 2023 and they have not applied for renewal.

“The respondents do not have authority to handle or distribute the estate as they would be intermeddling in the estate,” Kuntepa said.

“Despite the respondents being informed by my advocates that the matter is subjudice, they have neglected, failed and or refused to desist from illegally and unfairly distributing the estate before the court can give a final determination in this matter, more particularly on the issue of varying the 50 percent shares due to the children under the law and on the determination of whether there are any legal dependants under this estate.”

Kuntepa asked the Court to grant her application for an order of interim injunction restraining the respondents from illegally and unfairly distributing the estate of the late Tutwa Ngulube in any manner that may prejudice the interests of the minors.

CCZ Condemns Police Disruption of Bishop Clement Mulenga’s Meeting

CCZ Condemns Police Disruption of Bishop Clement Mulenga’s Meeting

…we however hasten to state that the apology is insufficient…

The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) strongly condemns the actions of the Zambia Police for
disrupting a private meeting between His Grace, Bishop Clement Mulenga of the Archdiocese of Kabwe, and the 6th Republican President, His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

This incident, which took place in Bishop Mulenga’s office in Kabwe last Friday, is a serious affront to democratic principles and
must be denounced by all citizens committed to upholding the rule of law.

We note the apology issued by the Acting Minister of Information and Media, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu, during
his press briefing on Monday, we however hasten to state that the apology is insufficient because selectively
addressed only to the Catholic Church.

The 6th Republican President was also a party to the meeting and
deserves an apology for the unwarranted disruption and harassment by the police.

The CCZ finds the justification provided by the Minister, citing the Public Order Act, to be fundamentally
flawed.

The Act is designed to regu late public gatherings, not private meetings.

The meeting between Dr. Lungu and Bishop Mulenga was a private affair, and there was no basis for invoking the Public Order Act.

Furthermore, the Zambia Police’s statement, claiming that they acted on information suggesting that Dr.Lungu intended to address public gatherings, is speculative and unjustifiable.

Disrupting a private meeting based on mere speculation about future public activities is an overreach of police authority and undermines
the principles of due process and respect for privacy.

The CCZ also notes with great concern and denounces the bullish behaviour of the United Party for National
Development (UPND) Kanyama constituency youth wing aimed at intimidating the St. Philips United
Church of Zambia congregation in Kanyama.

The Church cannot and should not be dictated to regarding
who they invite and congregate with.

The behaviour by the UPND youth is a clear example and evidence
that the unruly cadre challenge is still latent and if not contained will erupt out of control.

No cadre or
political member has the legal mandate to maintain law and order.

We call upon the Zambia Police Service
to professionally and impartially maintain law and order.

The CCZ reiterates that Zambia is a democratic nation where all citizens, including former presidents, have
the right to freedom of movement and association.

These rights are enshrined in the Constitution and must be respected by all state agencies and general citizenry.

We call upon the government to ensure that the rights and freedoms of citizens must are protected, and
any actions that threaten these principles must be addressed promptly and decisively.

Its Highly Hypocritical For HH To Remain Mute Over Nakachinda’s Conviction On A Law That He Repealed Himself

0

ITS HIGHLY HYPOCRITICAL FOR HH TO REMAIN MUTE OVER NAKACHINDA’S CONVICTION ON A LAW THAT HE REPEALED HIMSELF.

CHOMBA CHIPILI WRITES

The conviction and sentencing of Raphael Nakachinda to 18 months in prison with hard labor is a pure dictatorial tendance meant to silence the critics of a failed Government and a malicious manuvour to steal the right to freedom of expression of the private citizens.

The law that Nachinda is purported to have committed was repealed by President HH himself in 2022 when he abolished it to be a criminal offense. And in backing his decision President HH said “the law on criminal defamation of the president “inhibits the growth of democracy and good governance, impedes human rights and basic freedoms.” Why then is he quiet over the matter that seriously raise questions over his rule and his application of democracy that him and his foreign friends endlessly sing about? if this is not a notorious face of hypocrisy or vengeance what would it be then?

When we talk about the shrinking democratic space this is what we mean, when we talk about the suspension of the constitution this is what we mean.

If President HH has any atom of shame he must suspend Raphael Nakacinda’s conviction, release him, and stop prosecuting political opponents and others under this revoked law. We are a country of law and no one including the President and the judges has the power to replace the supreme law of the land with their emotions.

This act itself sends very sad feelings over our Judiciary, how can the custodian of the law in the names of courts justify this careless conduct.
On what law or penal code did the judge base his judgement. In 2022, President HH assented to Penal Code (Amendment) Bill No. 25, which repealed section 69, effectively abolishing the crime of defaming the president. On what basis was this judgement made?

President HH is also quoted saying that he had repealed the law as part of his commitment to democracy as it is “the democratic right of every citizen to be able to exercise their rights, what then has changed in Nakachinda’s case?

This only clearly tells us that President HH intends to use the law to stifle critical voices and deter criticism from the suffering citizens. This only defines the deteriorating civil and political rights situation in our nation.

What our colleague as been subject to is purely an abuse of the law and a malicious infringement of human rights.

President HH must know that there is life after the presidency and all the energies that he is directing on political opponents and critics must be directed on fulfilling his many lies that brought him into power.

It should sink in President HH’s head that no amount of arrests has ever reduced the cost of living anywhere in the world.

Release Nakachinda for he is unlawfully incarcerated.

LUSAMBO MAY NOT GET A FAIR TRIAL IN MAGISTRATE CHILUBA’S COURT

0

LUSAMBO MAY NOT GET A FAIR TRIAL IN MAGISTRATE CHILUBA’S COURT,

….. Contemplates applying to have his matter heard by a different magistrate.

Luanshya, 23rd May. 2024

After a long battle in the practice of back and forth, the Luanshya Magistrates court presided over by one Magistrate Penistone Kalutwa Chiluba has finally granted an adjournment to the former Kabushi Member of Parliament Hon Bowman Lusambo to allow him get proper medical treatment.

Hon. Lusambo has been appearing before Magistrate Kalutwa Chiluba in the Luanshya Magistrate’s Court in a matter he is accused of assaulting a Joseph Akafumba aligned NDC official only identified as Mr Musukwa during the Roan Constituency By election in April 2019.

Hon. Lusambo who is also former Copperbelt and Lusaka Provinces Minister has so far been exonerated from the political violence that happened in the by election by the victims of the attacks who are still members of the opposition NDC.

The matter which is at defence stage has been coming up for trial in the Luanshya Court and so far, several witnesses that include the actual victims of the attack have since testified that Hon. Lusambo was nowhere near the scene of the alleged assault.

While in the accused dock on Wednesday, Hon. Lusambo took ill, his lawyer applied for an adjournment but the visibly doubtful and biased Magistrate Chiluba instead ordered that the accused person be taken to Thompson Hospital specifically and to be examined by a medical practitioner from there before he could consider granting a reasonable adjournment.

The Magistrate insisted on his orders that the accused be taken to Thompson Hospital and not any other hospital leaving Hon Lusambo and his lawyers perplexed and trying to figure out the Magistrate and the state prosecution team’s obsession with Thompson Hospital.

The former Kabushi MP and his lawyers obliged and went to Thompson Hospital where he was diagnosed with diabetes and immediately referred to Roan Antelope General Hospital where he was placed in admission and subsequently ordered to take not less than five days to rest and recover.

At this point, Hon. Lusambo’s Lawyer Joshua Njovu of John Kayuni and Partners proceeded back to the court where the Magistrate had ordered that the court reconvene at 14 Hours on the same day and that the accused should present himself if checked and found able to stand trial if not fit enough, a writen sick note should be presented to him and that the medical practitioner who issues it should be brought to court to testify to it.

Upon seeing the medical report that showed how a competent health practitioner at Roan Antelope General Hospital ordered Mr Lusambo to take minimum of five days to rest, State Prosecutor Judith Mayiya who is oftenly in the habit of harrasing media personnel following the Lusambo matter in court quickly expressed doubt and applied that the court orders Hon. Lusambo to be reexamined by Consultant Doctors at Maina Soko Northern Division in Ndola or Ndola Teaching Hospital which application was ably objected to by defence counsel Joshua Njovu.

After consideration of the report having heard the testimony of the Health Practitioner who issued it, Magistrate Chiluba whose facial expressions mostly present that of one who habors disgust and hatred for the accused person adjourned the matter from Wednesday 22nd to Monday 27th May 2024 which adjournment was argued by defence counsel as not allowing Mr Lusambo enough time to rest and recover was unjust.

It was only after a 30 plus minutes protracted battle in the magistrate’s chambers that it was agreed to have the matter adjourned to 22nd of July 2024 with orders to the defense counsel to ensure all witnesses are brought before court and the matter be concluded in five days beginning 22 of July.

Hon. Lusambo has since expressed dismay with the manner in which the Magistrate and the state prosecutor Mayiya insisted that he be attended to by health personnel only from a specific hospital when he could have been allowed to go to hospital of his choice considering he is on valid police bond.

The clear biases of the Magistrate can be seen in many ways including the way he disregards most interventions of the defense team in preference of most of the state’s interventions even when such interventions are clearly irrelevant.

Hon. Lusambo now contemplates making an application to have his matter handled by a different magistrate fearing that the current one may not give him a fair trial.

At least 9 people killed as strong winds bring down stage at political gathering in Mexico

Strong wind knocked over the stage at a political event in northern Mexico, killing at least nine people, including a child, and injuring 63 others. The governor of the state of Nuevo Leon reported the incident on Wednesday evening.

The building fell down while Jorge Álvarez Máynez, a candidate for president who wasn’t likely to win, was at an event. He ran away to safety. Videos on social media showed people shouting and running away from a collapsing structure, and trying to get out from under metal poles.

The people who were hurt or affected by this sad event will have support, Máynez said. He also said he canceled his future campaign events.

Later, soldiers, police, and other officials walked around the park where the event happened. Many people nearby were shocked and deeply affected by the tragedy.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he is giving a hug to the families, friends, and supporters of the people who were hurt or killed. Many people in Mexico, including other presidential candidates, sent their sympathy and support.

In a video, the Governor of Nuevo Leon named Samuel Garcia asked people to stay in their houses for the next two hours. He is a member of the Citizens Movement party.

Maynez posted on his social media that he went to a hospital after the accident in the rich area of San Pedro Garza Garcia, close to Monterrey. He said he was feeling well.

“The most important thing right now is to take care of the people hurt in the accident,” he wrote.

Videos of the accident showed Máynez moving his arm while the crowd cheered for him. Then he looked up and saw a big screen and a metal structure falling toward him. He quickly ran to the back of the stage to avoid the falling structure. It looked like it was made of light pieces and had the party’s logo and theater lights on it.

Maynez is currently in third place in the presidential race, behind Claudia Sheinbaum and Xochitl Galvez. Claudia Sheinbaum is from the ruling Morena Party, and Xochitl Galvez is from the opposition coalition. Both expressed their sympathy, and Sheinbaum called off a campaign event in Monterrey the next day to show support for the victims and their families.

Gálvez wrote on social media that he feels sorry for the families of the people who died and hopes that the injured people get better soon.

The accident happened during a busy time for campaigns, with lots of events planned this week and next for the upcoming elections on June 2.

The campaign has been troubled by the deaths of around 24 people running for local government positions. But it has not been damaged by campaign mishaps.

Chaka Khan’s daughter tells Diddy she’s ‘dancing’ over his ‘demise’ because he ‘publicly disrespected’ her mom

Chaka Khan’s daughter, Indira Khan, is the latest public figure to touch on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ current predicaments after he faced further scrutiny over a recently shared 2016 video that showed him appearing to assault his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. That incident is said to have happened at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles.

Combs on Sunday posted a video on Instagram where he apologized for his actions after CNN circulated the 2016 footage. But Indira on Tuesday addressed the embattled music executive in the video’s comment section, letting him know that she did not sympathize with him because he once “disrespected” her superstar mother during an encounter.

“I’m glad this is happening to you, you got in my mothers face and publicly disrespected her yelling and screaming like a lunatic,” Indira, 50, commented, per ET. [W]hen my little brother tried to get you out of my mothers face your security jumped my 19 year old brother[.] [T]hese may be your dark days but I’m singing and dancing watching your demise @chakakhan isn’t it great mom.”

Indira also added several smiling and dancing emojis to her post and tagged her mother. Prior to the release of the video, Combs had initially denied allegations of rape and abuse from Ventura. Combs and Ventura started dating in 2007 and had an on-and-off relationship for over 10 years. The American music mogul signed Cassie to his label in 2005 when she was 19 and he was 37.

Ventura, 37, initially filed a lawsuit in New York federal court alleging that Combs brought her into his “ostentatious, fast-paced, and drug-fueled lifestyle” after she met him.

The lawsuit further alleged that Combs was “prone to uncontrollable rage” and physically abused her during their relationship including punching, beating, kicking and stomping on her. It alleged that Combs urged Ventura to use drugs and forced her to have sex with other men while he masturbated and filmed. The lawsuit was later dismissed after both parties reached an undisclosed settlement.

Combs’ legal woes further mounted following the circulation of the video as model Crystal McKinney became the latest person to file a sexual assault lawsuit against the 54-year-old. That’s a total of six sexual assault lawsuits that have been brought against the rapper and music executive.

former model who accused Diddy of 2003 sexual assault still has unwashed clothes she wore that night in sealed plastic bag

A former model who accused Music mogul and rapper, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs of sexual assault says she has kept the ‘’unwashed clothes” that she wore on the night the rapper allegedly attacked her.

In a lawsuit, Crystal McKinney said she held onto the clothing wrapped in a plastic bag for over two decades after she claimed to be drugged and sexually assaulted by Combs in 2003.

According to her lawsuit filed this week in New York, McKinney said that she met Diddy because she was told he could ‘advance her modelling career’, but was drugged with marijuana and alcohol before being forced to perform oral sex on the rapper.

McKinney said she believes Diddy ‘blackballed’ her from the industry following the incident, and saw her career crumble before she attempted suicide in 2004.

McKinney first gained attention as a model aged 17, when she won MTV’s first ‘Model Mission’ beauty pageant in 1998.

Her early success led her to be invited to a Men’s Fashion Week event in 2003 in New York City, where she claimed in her lawsuit that she was referred to Diddy to help her career.

Citing a person named only as ‘the designer’ in the lawsuit, she said they arranged for her to meet the rapper, and gave her a full makeover to impress him.

This included new hair extensions and roots to appear ‘platinum blonde’, and an eye-catching outfit that she has kept for over 20 years.

She said the designer decked her out in a black leather coat with a fur hood, a translucent chiffon beige v-cut shirt, fur-lined handbag, and jewel-encrusted jeans,’ per the lawsuit.

McKinney said she kept the clothes ‘due to the traumatic events to occur later’, and never washed them before storing them ‘in her closet where they remain in a plastic wrap.’

She said on that fateful day, she was taken to meet Diddy at the Cipriani Downtown restaurant in Manhattan in the evening, where he was eating and drinking with others, including the designer.

‘Once seated, Combs made a very public display of coming on to Plaintiff in a sexually suggestive manner which continued throughout the dinner,’ the lawsuit said, adding that he would constantly refill her glass of wine.

She alleges that Diddy boasted of his influence over the fashion world, and whispered in her ear that she was ‘going to make it big’ in her career – with his behaviour described as ‘flirtatious, bordering on leering.’

After leaving the restaurant, the rapper told her to call him later, and she said she met up later that night at his studio in Midtown Manhattan.

McKinney said she arrived to find Diddy drinking and smoking weed with friends, and she joined them. After becoming intoxicated on both substances, she said she had enough, but Diddy allegedly continued to give her more.

She alleged that at some point, Diddy pulled her into a back room, before forcing her to perform oral sex on him as she protested, which left her feeling ‘panicked and physically sick’, the lawsuit claimed.

The model said she passed out at the studio and woke up in the back of a taxi heading to the designer’s apartment.

Following the incident, McKinney said she saw her career ‘dwindle and evaporate entirely’, and believes it was Diddy ‘blackballing’ her that cost her.

She attempted suicide in 2004 due to the alleged incident. She said she was constantly reminded of it through the years as Diddy ‘was an inescapable presence in music, television and film.’

The latest lawsuit comes a week after shocking footage emerged showing Diddy violently assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a California hotel

Diddy released an apology video following the video’s release, where he said he was sorry for his past behaviour and said he ‘f* up’

“Mr. Trump doesn’t disturb us” – Canadian Ambassador

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is trying to make friends with US politicians and business people. The Canadian ambassador to the US said that another Trump presidency wouldn’t be a big deal for Canada.

We are not worried about Mr Trump. “We worked well with him,” Kristen Hillman said to reporters at the SEIU conference in Philadelphia.

Hillman said Canada did a good job of changing the North American Free Trade Agreement, called CUSMA. The trade deal between Canada, Mexico, and the United States started on July 1, 2020 after they talked about it for a long time.

In 2018, the US President Trump put taxes on steel and aluminum that came into the US from Canada and other friendly countries. The Trade Expansion Act was a law passed in 1962 to help increase trade between the United States and other countries. This rule lets the US put taxes on imports if it thinks its safety is at risk.

That’s why Canada’s possibility of trade problems with the US is not just a theoretical question anymore, and the Liberal government thinks it can deal with those issues.

“We worked with the American government to show them that the tariffs were hurting them too. We convinced President Trump to remove the tariffs,” Trudeau said to the media.

Lately, Trump said he will add 10% taxes on things brought into the country from other places if he becomes president. A new report from Scotiabank said that if there is a trade war, Canada’s economy could shrink by 36 per cent.

However, Trudeau told reporters that he is telling US lawmakers and business leaders that tariffs are bad for them as well.

Trudeau said that Canada shouldn’t be hit with tariffs or other protectionist measures because it would also hurt American jobs.

The prime minister said in his speech to SEIU conference members that in 2023, trade between Canada and the US was more than $1.3 trillion. He emphasized this point.

Trudeau emphasized in a meeting with Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro that Canada is the state’s top place to sell goods to, with exports to Canada being more than the total of the next four countries.

Canada is trying to get American politicians from different levels of government to see how important the relationship between Canada and the United States is. They recently met with a Democratic governor as part of this effort.

“We are always making sure that elected officials who make decisions understand how important Canada is for the communities they represent,” Hillman told reporters.

Biden’s popularity rating drops to its lowest point in almost two years

This month, a poll by Reuters/Ipsos showed that US President Joe Biden‘s approval rating dropped to its lowest point in almost two years. This is a warning sign for his chances of getting reelected.

The survey that lasted four days and ended on Monday found that only 36 percent of Americans think Biden is doing a good job as president, which is lower than the 38 percent in April. He got the worst rating of his presidency, as low as it was in July 2022. This month, the poll shows that Biden’s support has decreased, which might not be good for him when he competes against Donald Trump in the presidential election on Nov. 5.

Biden, a member of the Democratic party, has been in a close race with Trump in national surveys asking people who they plan to vote for. Trump has been a little bit ahead of Biden in a lot of polls in the states that will probably decide who wins the US Electoral College.

The survey showed both things Biden is not good at and a few things he is good at. The most important problem facing the country, according to 23% of people, is the state of the economy. About 21 out of 100 people think that political extremism is the most important issue, and 13 out of 100 people think that immigration is the most important issue.

40% of people in the poll said they think Trump had better ways to help the US economy while he was president from 2017-2021. 30% said they think Biden has better ways. The rest either didn’t know or didn’t answer.

Trump was more popular than Biden on immigration. 42 per cent of people liked Trump’s approach, while 25 per cent liked Biden’s approach.

Biden was a little better than Trump on dealing with political extremism, according to 34% of people surveyed. 30% said Trump was better on this issue.

People said they thought Trump was better at dealing with problems in other countries and terrorism. 36% of people liked Trump’s approach, while 29% liked Biden’s approach.

The US economy is a big influence on whether Biden will get reelected.

People who vote are upset because prices have been going up quickly for many years. However, prices are not going up as fast now and many people have jobs. The unemployment rate has been lower than four percent for over two years. Biden is 81 years old, and voters are worried about his age.

In addition, a different poll this month showed that a lot of Democrats are not happy with how Biden has been dealing with the fighting between Israel and Hamas. The survey that came out on Tuesday didn’t ask people if they agree with Biden’s help for Israel’s war in Gaza. This issue is causing a big split among Democrats.

Trump, who is 77 years old, is facing four criminal trials, including a hush money trial in New York that will end next week. Trump chose not to answer questions in the case where he is accused of lying about his business records. This means his defense is over and the jury will decide next week. He is trying to overturn his loss to Biden in the 2020 election and there are two more trials waiting to happen because of this.

Trump says he lost the 2020 election because of cheating, but this is not true. He made the claim in a strong speech just before many of his followers broke into the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Five people passed away.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announces July 4 general election in UK

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak decided to have a national election on July 4. It’s likely that his Conservative party will lose to the opposition Labour Party, who have been in power for 14 years.

After lots of talk about when there would be a new vote, Sunak, who is 44 years old, said outside his home at 10 Downing Street that he was calling the election earlier than some people thought he would. This is a risky move because his party is not doing well in the opinion polls.

Sunak is not doing well in the polls and doesn’t have much support within his party. He is relying on a small group of advisers to help him through the upcoming election.

However, he seems to have made up his mind that now is the right time to present his plans for a new term to voters, because the economy is doing well with inflation going down and the economy growing quickly.

The person who used to work in banking and finance became the prime minister just under two years ago. Since then, he has had a hard time figuring out what he believes in and is getting more and more frustrated because he thinks his accomplishments are not being recognized.

Both parties have started campaigning for an election. They are already attacking each other on the economy and defense.

Sunak and his government say that Labour will raise taxes if they are in charge, and they don’t have a good plan for a dangerous world. But the opposition party denies these charges.

Labour says the government has not managed the economy well for 14 years. This has made people’s lives worse, and businesses have not had the stability they need to grow.

Labour said they were prepared for an election before it was announced.

“We are prepared to go anytime the prime minister decides to have an election. ” We have a plan and we are ready for an election. We believe the country wants a general election, said Labour leader Starmer’s spokesperson.

Israel to return video equipment seized from Associated Press

The Israeli government will give back a camera and broadcasting equipment it took from The Associated Press on Tuesday. This happened after it had stopped the news organization from showing live video of Gaza. People were upset because they thought the government was getting in the way of fair journalism.

The live video of Gaza by the AP was working again on Wednesday in Israel.

The government took away AP equipment in southern Israel because they said it broke a new media law by giving pictures to Al Jazeera on TV.

Israeli leaders used a new rule on May 5 to shut down Al Jazeera, a news company from Qatar, in Israel. They took away its stuff, stopped it from showing news on TV, and made it so people in Israel couldn’t go to its websites.

After Israel took the AP’s equipment, the Biden administration, journalism groups, and an Israeli opposition leader criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and urged them to change their decision.

Israel’s communications minister, Shlomo Karhi, said on Tuesday that he has ordered to cancel the action and return the equipment to the AP on the social platform X.

Karhi said the defense department will check how news sources show live video of Gaza. Officials did not tell AP before that the location of their live camera was a problem. Instead, they kept saying that the pictures were shown live on Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera is a customer of AP. They get live video from AP and other news groups.

Lauren Easton, who is the vice-president of corporate communications at AP, said that while they are happy about this progress, they are still worried about the Israeli government using the foreign broadcaster law and independent journalists being able to work freely in Israel.

Government workers went to AP’s building in Sderot and took their equipment on Tuesday afternoon. They gave the AP a paper signed by Karhi, saying it was breaking the law for foreign broadcasters in the country.

Just before, AP was showing a wide look at the northern part of Gaza. The AP follows Israel’s military rules about what can and cannot be shown on the news. They are not allowed to broadcast information that could put soldiers in danger, like where they are moving. The video showed smoke going up in the area.

Last Thursday, the AP was told to stop broadcasting live, but they said no.

Israel’s leader in the opposing party, Yair Lapid, said the government’s action against AP was “crazy. ”

Karhi told Lapid that everyone in the government agreed to a law that says they can take away any device that has Al Jazeera on it.

Journalism groups criticized Israel for taking AP’s equipment, and the Biden administration also pushed back.

“As soon as we found out about the reports, the White House and the State Department quickly talked to Israel’s government at important meetings to show how worried we are and ask them to change this decision,” said Adrienne Watson, who speaks for the National Security Council. “A free press is very important for democracy. The media, including AP, do important work that should be respected. ”

When Israel shut down Al Jazeera’s offices, it raised concerns about press freedom in the country.

Israel has not been good at allowing press freedom during the war, according to the Foreign Press Association. They said this in a statement on Tuesday. “It has stopped foreign reporters from going to Gaza on their own. ”

The live video from Sderot shows us a rare and independent look at what’s happening in Gaza.

Israel and Al Jazeera don’t get along well because Israel thinks the news channel is not fair to their country. Netanyahu said it’s a “terror channel” that spreads hate.

Al Jazeera is one of the few international news companies that has stayed in Gaza during the war. They have been showing airstrikes and crowded hospitals, and they are saying that Israel has been committing massacres. AP is also in Gaza. The Associated Press is also located in Gaza.

In the 2021 war between Israel and Hamas, the army destroyed the building where AP’s Gaza office was located. They said that Hamas had used the building for military reasons. The AP said they didn’t know about Hamas being there, and the army didn’t show any proof to support what they said.

The fighting in Gaza started when Hamas attacked Israel and killed 1,200 people and kidnapped 250 others. More than 35,000 Palestinians have died according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. They don’t separate civilians and soldiers in their count.

Hackers threaten to release London Drugs’ data if it refuses to pay $25 million

All stores in Western Canada were forced to close last month after London Drugs was attacked by a group of cybercriminals. The cybercriminals are demanding $25 million and have threatened to release the company’s data if they fail to pay.

London Drugs told our media team that it found out cybercriminals on the dark web stole files from its head office, and some of those files might have some employees information.

The company hasn’t found any proof that the patients, customers, or main employees’ information has been stolen, but they are still looking into the cyberattack.

London Drugs didn’t say the name of the criminal group, but the cyber expert Brett Callow thinks it was LockBit. LockBit is known for doing a lot of ransomware attacks.

Callow told CTV News that Emsisoft’s trackers found out about the ransom “pretty fast” by gathering information from the dark web.

LockBit says it will share data it says it took from London Drugs in 48 hours if London Drugs doesn’t give them $25 million. The post also says that London Drugs has said they will pay $8 million.

London Drugs said they don’t want to pay money to the cybercriminals.

“We know that these criminals might release London Drugs corporate files that they stole, some of which could have employee information, on the Dark Web. ” This is very upsetting, and London Drugs is doing everything it can to reduce the impact of these criminal acts.

London Drugs told all their employees about a possible security problem and gave them two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection, even if their information wasn’t stolen.

Callow said that London Drugs made the right choice by not paying the ransom.

He said there’s no promise that LockBit would actually delete the data if London Drugs gives in. Law enforcement has found that LockBit servers still had data from companies that paid to have it deleted before.

“He said they can’t be trusted and are not honest. ”

LockBit and its partners have used their ransomware to forcefully take $120 million from many people and organizations. Some of the victims include Boeing, Britain’s National Health Service, and China’s largest bank. This information was reported by The Associated Press.

It asks for money in exchange for the release of the hostages, ranging from tens of thousands to tens of millions of dollars.

He said that London Drugs can only help their employees if their information has been stolen and hope that the police can catch the people behind LockBit.

In 2023, cybercriminals got $1.1 billion in ransom, as said by crypto-tracing company Chainalysis. “Most of the money would have been paid by American companies. ” Callow said, “and Canada. ”

“Many victims say the attacks were complicated, but most ransomware attacks happen because of simple security mistakes. Organizations can do things to lower the chances of being attacked,” he said.

London Drugs said they will not do any interviews on Tuesday.

Judge postpones Hunter Biden’s tax trial to September

Hunter Biden’s trial for tax evasion in California was postponed after the judge accepted a request for a delay in September. It was supposed to happen next month.

US District Judge Mark C. Scarsi decided to move the case to September 5 because the defense lawyers asked for more time to get ready. Hunter Biden is also going to trial for federal gun charges on June 3 in Delaware.

He said he did not do the crimes he’s accused of, and his lawyers say the accusations are for political reasons. Both cases are being looked at by judges chosen by former President Donald Trump, who is a member of the Republican party and is trying to win against the Democratic president in November.

The trials will make the presidential election even more bitter. Trump’s friends are using embarrassing details from Biden’s son’s troubled life to criticize his father. Trump also has his own legal problems. Trump is facing charges in four criminal cases. One of the cases is about hush money and it is being tried in New York.

Hunter Biden’s lawyers are trying to find experts to testify in the important trial but have been having trouble doing so. They have also asked for the cases to be dismissed or delayed.

The prosecutors disagreed with the request to delay the case, saying it is a simple tax case. Prosecutor Leo Wise told the judge that it is time to have the trial for this case.

“He must follow the law and be treated like anyone else in court,” said David Weiss’ team from the Justice Department in a recent document.

Hunter Biden did not have to go to the court hearing in Los Angeles, and he didn’t go. The judge warned his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, that this would be the only time the case would be delayed, unless a higher court ordered otherwise.

Prosecutors have about 30 people who will tell the court that he didn’t pay about US$1.4 million in taxes over four years while living a very rich life. He has admitted that he had problems with addiction during this time. The taxes that were owed have now been paid.

In the gun case, lawyers say that Biden didn’t tell the truth about using drugs in October 2018 when he filled out a form to buy a gun. He had the gun for about 11 days in Delaware. During that time, he admitted to being addicted to crack cocaine, but his lawyers say he didn’t do anything illegal.

The lawyers want to show the jury parts of his book “Beautiful Things” from 2021. In the book, he talks about his fight with drinking and drugs after his brother died in 2015. His brother was 46 and died from brain cancer.

Hunter Biden’s lawyers tried to get both cases thrown out, but they were not successful. They say that prosecutors gave in to political pressure to charge him. This happened after a plea deal fell apart in court and was criticized by Republicans, including Trump, as being too lenient.

The investigation into the president’s son was supposed to end with a deal last year, but it fell apart because a judge had concerns about it. Hunter Biden was later charged with a crime.

He would have been on probation for two years after admitting to breaking tax laws. He could have stayed out of trouble and not gotten in trouble for having a gun.

Military of Ukraine to receive billions from Russia’s frozen assets

The EU plans to allocate $3.25 billion from frozen Russian assets due to sanctions to support Ukraine and its military.

“Russia has to give money for the damage caused by the war,” said Jan Lipavsky, Czech Republic’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, as he revealed the exact amount on X.

The European Council agreed to give money to Ukraine on Tuesday. This comes about two months after deciding to use the money from assets worth hundreds of billions of dollars that were frozen when Russia started a large war against Ukraine in February 2022.

In reaction to the move, Kirill Logvinov, who leads Russia’s constant mission to the EU, claimed that the EU Council had “officially raised stealing to the level of tools in its foreign policy. “

The comment was from an interview translated by Tass, a Russian news agency. Logvinov said that the outcome of the EU’s decision will be hard to predict and could affect the eurozone, the economies of the EU countries, and the investments in the region.

The war in Ukraine has caused a very serious conflict and a big problem with helping people. The country also needs a lot of money and time to rebuild everything.

The Biden administration wants the EU and its 27 member countries to help Ukraine by taking money from Russia’s frozen assets, potentially by taking the money for themselves.

Those who disagree with the plan to transfer Russian assets to Ukraine say it might not be allowed by law and could have bad effects on the euro. If the EU takes the assets, Russia might take European stuff in return.

The EU wants to help Ukraine without getting involved in Russia’s business. They are avoiding the difficult questions and giving support to Kyiv instead.

“Sweden’s Anders Ahnlid said that Ukraine could use the 2 to 4 billion euros of extra money each year for rebuilding, without breaking any rules. “

Since the war started, the EU, Group of Seven and other US allies have frozen $282 billion in assets from the Central Bank of Russia. Most of the money, about two thirds, is held in the EU’s territory, the EU Council reported in February.

The EU will use 90% of the money from unexpected profits to help Ukraine with its military.

Some of the money will be used to help Ukraine’s defense industry and rebuild things. The EU said they will collect money twice a year from accounts in Russia.

Last month, President Biden approved the REPO for Ukrainians Act. This law lets the US give Russian money to Ukraine to help with rebuilding. It’s part of a big bill that spends money on keeping the country safe. A group of senators from both political parties is asking Biden to use his power to put the new law into effect before the G7 meeting in June.

Spain, Norway, and Ireland declare willingness to vote for Palestinian state

On Wednesday, Norway, Ireland and Spain said they will officially acknowledge Palestine as a state. This is a significant but mostly symbolic action that shows Israel is increasingly alone in its conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Israel criticized the decisions and brought back its ambassadors from the three countries.

Palestinian leaders were happy about the news because it confirms their goal to have their own country in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. Israel took control of these areas in the 1967 Middle East war and still has power over them.

Many countries, including most of the United Nations, say there is a Palestinian state. This could lead to more support for Palestine, especially as even Israel’s friends criticize its actions in Gaza.

The move happened unexpectedly, but some European Union countries have been talking for weeks about maybe recognizing a Palestinian state. Supporters say that the war has proven that there needs to be a new effort to create two separate states for Israel and the Palestinians, which is something that was last tried 15 years ago but didn’t work out. The leader of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, does not support the idea of Palestinians having their own country.

This is the second time Israel’s reputation has been damaged this week. The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court wants to arrest Netanyahu and his defense minister. The International Court of Justice is looking into claims that Israel has denied about committing genocide.

Israel called back its ambassadors from three countries and summoned their envoys. They said the Europeans were rewarding the militant Hamas group for attacking on Oct 7, which started the war. Israel Katz, who is in charge of foreign affairs for Israel, said that European ambassadors will see a very unpleasant video of the attack.

During the attack, Hamas-led fighters crossed the border, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostage. The person in charge of the ICC is trying to get permission to arrest three leaders of Hamas. Israel has attacked and killed over 35,000 Palestinians, and this has caused a big problem with not enough food and water. The ICC prosecutor said that Israeli leaders are using starvation as a weapon.

“Spain, Norway, and Ireland gave a gold medal to Hamas killers and rapists,” according to Katz.

Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, which is important to both Muslims and Jews, after hearing about changes in Europe.

“We won’t let anyone talk about a Palestinian state,” he said.

In response, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said he would stop giving money to the Palestinian Authority, which could make it hard for them to pay their workers.

In the 1990s, Israel collected taxes for the Palestinians, and used the money to control and pressure them. After the Hamas attack on October 7th, Smotrich stopped the money from being transferred. But Israel decided to send the money to Norway, and then Norway sent it to the PA. Smotrich said on Wednesday that he was stopping that agreement.

Jake Sullivan, who works for the US government, said stopping the aid was a bad idea because it makes the situation in the West Bank unstable and makes it harder for the Palestinian people to be safe and successful.

Many people hold the view that creating a Palestinian nation alongside Israel is the most effective way to resolve the conflict.

The US and Britain support the idea of a separate country for Palestinians next to Israel, but they think it should be agreed upon through negotiations. Netanyahu’s government says the problem can only be fixed by talking directly to each other.

Norway, Spain, and Ireland are going to officially recognize the Palestinian state on May 28. They have been friendly with both Israelis and Palestinians and have supported the idea of a Palestinian state for a long time.

They made their announcements one after the other very quickly. Norway was the first to help make the Oslo accords that started the peace process in the 1990s. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said, “There cannot be peace in the Middle East without recognition. “

The country wants to make its office in the West Bank into an embassy.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said it was a very important day for Ireland and Palestine. He said that the announcements were planned together and that other countries might also join.

The leader of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, told his country’s lawmakers that he has been visiting countries in Europe and the Middle East for many months to get their support for recognizing and stopping the fighting in Gaza.

“This award is not meant to harm anyone, it’s not meant to harm the people of Israel,” said Sanchez. “It is something that supports peace, fairness, and doing the right thing. “

The president of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, is happy with some decisions and wants other countries to support the Palestinian people’s fight for freedom and independence.

Hamas is seen as a terrorist group by Western countries and Israel. They don’t think Israel should exist, but they might be willing to accept a temporary state on the 1967 borders. Israel is worried that if a Palestinian state is created, the militant group Hamas will try to take it over, which could be dangerous for Israel’s safety.

The announcements probably won’t change anything in the war in Gaza or the ongoing fighting between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israel took control of east Jerusalem and thinks of it as part of its capital. It also built many Jewish communities in the West Bank where over 500,000 Israelis now live. The people who moved to live in the West Bank have Israeli citizenship, but the 3 million Palestinians who live there are ruled by the Israeli military.

Netanyahu said that Israel will continue to keep Gaza safe even if Hamas is defeated, and the fighting is still happening. Early on Wednesday, a bomb from an Israeli plane killed 10 people in central Gaza. This included four women and four children who had nowhere to live and were staying there. The information comes from the hospital.

Hugh Lovatt, a senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, said that recognizing Palestinians as a political entity is an important step towards allowing them to determine their own future.

He said that in order to make a difference, we need to take real actions to stop Israel from taking over and building on Palestinian land, like stopping the sale of products made in settlements and financial support for them.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in an interview that it’s important to support the Palestinian state. He also said that they can only recognize it once.

“We used to think that we would get credit at the end of a process,” he said. “Now we understand that recognition should encourage and support a process.

Ghostface Killah Criticizes Hip-Hop For Lack Of Storytelling And “Substance”

Ghostface Killah feels Hop-Hop is currently lacking in the storytelling and substance department, something he feels was prevalent during his era. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Starky Love shared his thoughts on the current state of Hip-Hop affairs after promoting his new album, Set The Tone. The Wu-Tang Clan emcee recalled the ’90s being full of material that painted a picture of where the artists were from, who they were, or their skill on the microphone through songs that tell a story. In today’s landscape, he feels that rappers are more concerned with the club scene instead of the art of rhyming from the heart with skill.

“I don’t hear nias doing storytelling no more, man. There might be Nas. You might still got [Slick] Rick out there doing it… Raekwon, [GZA]. A lot of stuff be regular darts, regular raps,” the Sun God opined. “Everything with this new generation is about clubs. A lot of puy getting thrown around and sht. It ain’t like with MC Lyte. Even when Lil’ Kim did it, she was gangsta with it. She was a rapper’s rapper. She was Erica Cane with it. But the Lauryn Hills of this sht [are] gone.”

He continued, “But I guess time changes. Because we was rhyming about ‘smoking woola’s at 16.’ Now you’ve got these nias [talking about] pills off the meat rack with the lean and shit. But at least we had substance in our music. Everything is the same now. We’re the type of nias that can rhyme about an eyeball falling out your face, and having the police pick it up and put it in a plastic bag. These ni*as can’t do that.”

Later in the conversation, the Hip-Hop legend shifted his vibes into a more positive and accepting tone. Kind of. He name-dropped Lil Baby and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and celebrated them for their use of melodies along with rapping, claiming they “changed the game.” But he did have a message for those who aren’t “doing [their] own sht,” saying, “I like some of that sht. But sometimes you got all these other motherfkers biting nias and all of y’all sound the same. Why you got to sound like him? Why do you got to sound like Lil Baby? Why you got to sound like this ni*a? Why you ain’t just doing your own sht?”

If you’re wondering what Ghost thought about the tired Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud, let’s just say he didn’t care for it and wanted it to stop because someone could die. Ghostface Killah insisted that “his era” of Hip-Hop beef was “respected” more because it wasn’t a mudslinging match and more about teaching emcees “how to use that pen.”

Ghostface recently dropped off his 12th studio album, Set The Tone, on Friday (May 10). The LP features appearances from Jim Jones, Nas, Method Man, Sheek Louch, Kanye West, Trevor Jackson, Fat Joe, AZ, Raekwon, and more.

How Samuel Eto’o imposed himself and humbled Pep Guardiola!

🇨🇲😤 Throwback Thursday! How Samuel Eto’o imposed himself and humbled Pep Guardiola!

Samuel Eto’o: “Pep had not proven anything in 2009 to come into a dressing room like that of Barca…he didn’t even know the history of that dressing room to start saying certain things. What hurt me more was that he was inventing things the press was relaying. I had a discussion with him, I had a beautiful offer to play for six months in Uzbekistan for 26 million dollars, and in his office with Txiki he told me ‘Oh Samuel, it can help you, go on!’ and I told him ‘The person that will make you win is Eto’o’ but you’ll come and apologise, and then I stayed in my place and continued training.

We arrived the US (for preseason), we were in Houston and in the dressing room before the match he said ‘we will swap shirt numbers!’. Everyone was like surprised. He said ‘Titi [Thierry Henry] you will take the number 9 of Samuel…and Titi was really happy (laughs) and he [Pep] continued ‘Eto’o will wear number 14’. Everyone was surprised. It was total disrespect and I couldn’t admit it because I had written a beautiful history even it had to end there. I had done a lot for the club on and especially off the pitch. I was always there for all my teammates and for all the club.

They played and I was on the bench. Some days later, we played against Chivas and he had the illuck to give me 20 minutes and I think he could have shot himself in the head. In the 20 minutes, I scored three goals. We returned to New York to play against Red Bull and he sent me in and I scored three goals again.

At that point , he was obliged to call a meeting but as he never had the courage to say things to my face, he passed through my teammates. I was having dinner and the delegate Carlos Naval came and told me ‘Come I have a surprise for you’. I was eager… thinking perhaps it’s Beyonce waiting for me (laughs). I arrived in the suite and I saw Jorquera, … Puyol, Leo, Andres , Xavi and Victor Valdes who is one of my best friends. I saw Pep at the far end and my countenance changed because I was very aggressive whenever I saw him. He didn’t speak. Xavi took the floor and said “Well negro, like we have always said and manifested, we want you to stay, and so you have to find common grounds with Pep.’ I told him ‘I don’t speak to Pep. He has to present an apology because he disrespected me openly on many occasions and I don’t accept this. With me, if you don’t respect me, I don’t respect you. That’s the law in my place. I suffered to be here, I respect everyone but if you don’t respect me I don’t respect you and I will do the double or triple of what you have done.’

Pep then spoke in Catalan, finding words in difficulty… We started the season and I spoke twice to Pep. One time was because he asked me to go speak to Yaya Toure who didn’t want to know anything about him and another time was because he wanted to give me lessons on how a striker should move and I told him ‘But Pep you were a midfielder and not a great striker. How do I score my goals? That movement didn’t have to be that way.’ Again we were in training and I created space for Messi to score and Messi even scored. He said ‘No no no! You rather have to ..’. I told him ‘You’re not normal…’

At the end of the season I scored 35 goals and the goal which permitted us to increase our lead against Manchester United in the Champions League final in Rome. We then went to La Coruña (Deportivo) and I scored two goals and then I had to leave to join Cameroon to face Togo. We had dinner with a lot of fun and then Pep said ‘I want to do a toast. We have to say thank you to Samuel because it was a difficult season for him but he showed the big player he is…’ It was a beautiful speech and that was the first time I trusted Guardiola. But that got me my passport to Inter Milan (giggles).

While at Inter we met in the semis of the Champions League. He saw me in the tunnel and did not greet me in the tunnel. He waited when all the cameras were there to greet. Look at the face of Thierry Henry. It says everything. They saw the scene. We were all in the tunnel. Look at Leo Messi. See his face. We were all in the tunnel. He didn’t greet but waited when all the cameras were present to give his hand. I could not deny because as the outcast I had to remind Guardiola that he was never a great player. He was a good player…”

Zambia Police Firmly Refute Allegations of Night Ambush against Former President Lungu

The Zambia Police Service has categorically refuted the allegations made by former President Edgar Lungu regarding a purported plan to ambush him at night. According to the police statement, these claims are entirely “unfounded and false,” and the Zambia Police Service had no intention of ambushing Mr. Lungu or any other citizen.

The police emphasized that their “primary concern is the safety and security of all individuals, including the former president,” and the monitoring of his movements is a “standard procedure” to ensure his wellbeing. As a former head of state, Lungu is entitled to police protection, and this will be carried out “with the utmost respect for his privacy and dignity.”

The police statement further clarified that the security personnel assigned to Lungu are funded by the government, but there may be instances where “additional measures by the police are sometimes necessary to provide adequate protection” during his movements. The police appealed to the public to “understand the role of the police in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all citizens.”

Addressing Lungu’s concerns about the 25 dockets reportedly opened against him, the police stated that they are merely “following due process in response to formal complaints filed by UPND members in Lusaka.” The police assured the public that they are “acting within the confines of the law and without any political bias.”

The Zambia Police Service reiterated its commitment to serving the public “impartially and professionally,” urging the former president to cooperate with the authorities during daylight hours, as is customary. The public has been called upon to “remain vigilant and support the police in their efforts to preserve the country’s hard-won stability.”

As tensions continue to unfold surrounding the former president’s allegations, the Zambia Police Service has demonstrated its resolve to uphold the principles of democracy and the constitution, while ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, including former President Lungu.

Catholic Bishops write to President Hakainde Hichilema over the dishonorable conduct of the Police

●”….Therefore, the Conference condemns in strongest terms every form of intimidation and
violation of privacy against the prelates of the Church, their premises and that of innocent
citizens in the course of the Church doing what is its mission and service….”

Your Excellency,
The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops

REF:Dishonourable conduct of state police towards the Bishop and former HEAD OF STATE

We, members of the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), write your Excellency to
register our deep displeasure concerning the conduct of State Police Officers towards the
Bishop of Kabwe, the Rt. Rev Clement Mulenga and the former Head of State Dr. Edgar
Changwa Lungu, which happened on Friday 17t May, 2024, when the former Head of State paid a courtesy call on the Bishop.

Your Excellency, the Conference would like to state categorically that the incident in question was incredibly scandalous and intimidating.

It was a serious invasion of the Bishop’s privacy
which was unwarranted in any way.

The Church in general and shepherds of souls in particular
have the right, duty and liberty to welcome and listen to every human person, without any
form of discrimination.

This is in fulfilment of the words of our Lord Jesus Christ who said: “Come to me, all you who labour and are over-burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew
11:28).

Even without the nation being called Christian, it is normal for people with all sorts of physical, spiritual, material, and psychological challenges to seek solace in the Church.

Therefore, the Conference condemns in strongest terms every form of intimidation and
violation of privacy against the prelates of the Church, their premises and that of innocent
citizens in the course of the Church doing what is its mission and service.

It should also be reminded that despite being a public institution, the Church is in a diplomatic relationship with the State.

Therefore, going forward, the Zambla Conference of Catholic
Bishops (ZCCB) would like to see the Church’s premises and Its ministers respected and their rightful dignity and autonomy upheld without what was witnessed in the Bishop’s office on
Friday 17″ May 2024.

Yours sincerely,

Most Rev. Ignatius Chama.
Archbishop of Kasama and
ZCCB President

The invasion of Bishop’s Office by police in kabwe risks to sour international relationship with Catholic Church-Fr. Martin Mwango

0

Invading Catholic Bishop’s Office, what does it mean..?

By Fr. Martin Mwango
(OSMdL)

The invasion of Bishop’s Office by police in kabwe risks to sour international relationship with Catholic Church.

In every part of an institution there are dos and donts, boundaries where one can reach and where one cannot forceflly enter no matter the pressure or situations.but there are other people within that institutions allowed to enter of course with permission.

The kabwe incidence where a police officer forced himself into Bishop’s office without permission has a strong meaning in the Catholic fraternity and procedure. It is beyond the insults the church and its clergies and shepherds have suffered in the hands of UPND.
If this is not handled properly has consequences on the diplomatic relationship between zambian government and Rome. It’s take it or leave and truth be told..
What happened last week in kabwe simply means entering Popes private room without due respect because that office is purely private and has nothing to do with politics and hatred. that’s why you will NEVER find the political portrait in that office because it is an embassy in it’s own way.
I smell risks between Zambia and Vatican City whose sovereignty is exercised by the Pope upon his election as the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

The fact is, the police must know that the Bishop’s office is private and can accommodate anyone as it enjoys its rights to privacy and the bishop accommodated in that office has a mandate to bring people to Christ. He can accommodate anyone either those from opposition and those from the ruling government. Even those that are worst condemned in society and deemed to be criminals. Therefore, to teach our Police officer jurisdiction between state and the Church I can quote that:
“A bishop is an ordained member of the clergy who is entrusted with a position of authority and oversight in a religious institution” he cannot be intimidated by the ones in power or in opposition because he speaks for voice of the voiceless.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation should show concern and safeguard the relationship that Zambia had enjoyed with the Holy See way back before it’s Independence.

What we witnessed in Kabwe where a Police officer invaded the Bishop’s office may not sit well with the Vatican whose Embassy is right in Lusaka-Zambia. What the Police should know is that, while the Church buildings remain open for the public, the Bishop’s offices remains private entities and it reports directly to the Holy See through it’s Embassy at the Nunciature. The Pope is the head of the Roman Catholic Church whose sit is in Vatican City and represented at diocese level. Therefore, invading the Bishop’s office is breaking the international relationship law and this can call for compromise on the international community. Infact; “The Zambian Constitution under article 17 provides for the right to privacy including the right not to be searched (person, home or property); “not to have possessions seized; not to have information relating to family, health status and private affairs unlawfully required or revealed; and not to have communications.”

The Foreign Affairs Minister should come in, to correct the act and condemn it strongly. The apology that was tendered in by home affairs minister while addressing other isdues is considered too merely and has a different interpretation to the griefing embassy whose security and protection has been britched by state security. The head of that office is the Pope, then the Bishop’s office and that of a priest is known for it’s private confessions, counselling, teaching, guidance etc. Therefore, we call for mutual relationship between the Zambian State and the Church in Zambia. What the government and Police service in Zambia should understand is that: in Roman Catholic Church there seven principles that are respected for the human being, promotion of the family, the individual’s right to own property, the common good, subsidiarity, the dignity of work and workers, and pursuit of peace and care for the poor, to summarize some of the essentials of Catholic social teaching from Leo XIII through Benedict XVI.

I therefore demand for serious apologies from government and respect Popes office and let it operate as it has been in the past. The chiwamina galu kuluma mbuzi will not bring peace, love and care to zambia but will dent the corporate image of zambian government and its leadership.
Power and leadership are too different to be mixed . it’s just like love and hatred don’t mix .

As a church we shall endure the humiliation we are being subjected to but our fundamentals and social teachings will continue to ponder on. Catholic church will condemn the injustices but if those in authority decide not to listen, one day they shall listen.

ZAMBIA HAS NOT DONE WELL IN TERMS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

….the country is too rich to be poor, observes Dr. Mushalika

Lusaka… Thursday May 23, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

An Academician has observed that Zambia has not done well in terms of economic development since getting independence 60 years ago.

Dr. Joseph Mushalika says in as much as the country has tried in the area of infrastructure development, it’s worst performance is in the area of economic development.

Dr. Mushalika, who is also Chief Executive Officer of Build Zambia 2064, says Zambia is too rich to be poor as it is endowed with natural resources.

Dr. Mushalika said this when he featured on the Conversation Podcast hosted by Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba.

“We have done well in terms of trying to develop infrastructure in Zambia, we have done well with self governance, self rule but of course there are things we have not done well. If you look at 60 years of independence, that is quite a long time. And I think our worst performance is in the area of economic development. And why do I say our worst is in the area of economic development, is because of what kind of a country we are, resource wise. We are too rich to be poor,” he said.

“Look at our mineral wealth as a country. You know when we were in grade five or six we knew there was copper, gold, diamond but we didn’t even know there was a thing called sugilite. Those hills in Mkushi we didn’t know that there is manganese. Look at our timber, our rosewood, Mukula etc we are just too rich.”

He said even if the country is experiencing effects of climate change, it is still predictable.

“Even if there is climate change, our climate is still relatively predictable. It’s not as bad as it maybe in the future. Given that scenario and the history we were given that at independence we were richer than China, Singapore, South Korea and Malaysia, the question our children should be asking us is that what did you fo0ls do?” He added.

Dr. Mushalika said politicians have a tendency of creating a culture of dependency saying this should be avoided.

SOLUTIONS TO OUR PROBLEMS- Fred M’membe

SOLUTIONS TO OUR PROBLEMS

This year, our country will turn 60 years of independence. We, however, find ourselves in a much worse situation than we would have ever imagined.

Obviously, we are not doing well in most of the key economic indicators. At times, it feels like we are in a dream; we want this dream to be over; but it is our reality. And we need to face this reality. Things are not well; we have many problems.

The truth is, the problems of our country can be solved only if we dedicate ourselves to fight for it with the same energy, honesty, and patriotism our freedom fighters had when they founded it.

But we also need to keep in mind that the solutions to our problems cannot continue to depend on the selfish interests of a few people with money nor on the cold calculations of profits that a few businessmen draw up. We cannot continue looking for hope from people who constantly lie and have no vision. The country cannot continue begging on its knees for miracles from a few golden calves, like the Biblical one destroyed by the prophet’s fury. Golden calves cannot perform miracles of any kind.

Our country cannot continue begging or relying on IMF deals; these deals have never worked for us, and they are evidently not working.

There’s a lot of workers’ money – NAPSA and other pension funds – sitting in banks and being misused to build with little benefit to the workers. Instead of leaving it up to individual profit-seeking capitalists and their agents in government to decide how this money should be invested, the working class should decide on a democratic basis where the wealth produced by them is invested – without a doubt there would be reasonable amounts available for investment in free education at every level.

All Zambians need to take the economy and political power into their own hands in order to provide decent education, public services and standards of living for all – a society in which the full benefits of economic development can be enjoyed by all.

The current open market system, by its very nature, cannot provide this; it is only a socialist transformation of society that holds a brighter future for our people.

The SP government backed by the people and with the respect of the nation, after cleansing the different institutions of corrupt practices and elements would proceed immediately to the country’s industrialisation, mobilising all inactive capital and submitting this mammoth task to experts and men and women of absolute competence totally removed from all political machines for study, direction, planning and realisation.

COURT UPDATE: THE PEOPLE Vs DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA

COURT UPDATE: THE PEOPLE Vs DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA

Lusaka, 23rd May 2024

On 21st March 2024, Mr Sean Tembo the Party President for the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) filed a criminal complaint at the Lusaka Magistrates Court, against one Douglas Syakalima, who is the current Minister of Education. The criminal complaint is for Hate Speech in which the Accused Douglas Syakalima, while using a computer system, referred to the people of Luapula Province as having “a poverty of the mind” which is contrary to the provisions of section 65 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021 of the laws of Zambia.

On Friday, 19th April 2024, the Magistrates Court informed the Complainant Mr. Sean Tembo that it would not issue summons against the Accused Douglas Syakalima, until the Complainant engaged Counsel to represent him in the matter. On Thursday, 25th April 2024, the Complaint Mr Sean Tembo wrote a letter to the Lusaka Magistrates Court, challenging the Court that there is no law in Zambia which compels a Complainant to engage Counsel before their complaint can be heard by the Court, as such a law would be in contravention of the Republican Constitution as it would make justice to only be available to rich people who are able to engage legal representation. In the same letter of 25th April 2024, the Complaint Mr Sean Tembo further informed the Lusaka Magistrates Court that he will be compelled to seek judicial review at the High Court of Zambia, should the Magistrates Court insist on not proceeding with his criminal complaint against the Accused Douglas Syakalima.

On Wednesday, 17th May 2024, the Lusaka Magistrates Court proceeded to issue Summons against the Accused Douglas Syakalima for the alleged offense of Hate Speech, contrary to the provisions of section 65 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021 of the laws of Zambia, for referring to the people of Luapula Province as “having a poverty of the mind”. On Wednesday, 22nd May 2024, the Complaint Mr Sean Tembo served the Summons on the Accused Douglas Syakalima at the Ministry of Education Headquarters.

The Accused Douglas Syakalima will appear at the Lusaka Magistrates Court on one count of Hate Speech, before Resident Magistrate Sakala at 09hrs on 20th June 2024. In the meantime, the Complaint Mr Sean Tembo is in the process of writing to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mr. Gilbert Phiri SC, to seek consent that will allow the Complainant to privately prosecute the case. It is hoped that the DPP will this time around grant the necessary consent, so as to avert public complaints that the offense of Hate Speech is only applied against people of certain regions and not those of other regions of the country.

About two months ago, despite overwhelming evidence presented to him, the DPP refused to give consent to the Complaint Mr Sean Tembo to privately prosecute one Batuke Imenda, the Secretary General of the ruling UPND party, for the offense of Hate Speech, for referring to the Archbishop of Lusaka, His Grace Dr. Alick Banda as “the Lucifer of Zambia”.

WHAT WE HAVE NOW IS A REAL END TIME WAR BETWEEN LIGHT AND DARKNESS- CHOMBA CHIPILI

WHAT WE HAVE NOW IS A REAL END TIME WAR BETWEEN LIGHT AND DARKNESS

BY CHOMBA CHIPILI

We will be very naive to take the current political atmosphere in the Nation as politics as usual, for what we have now is a real battle of evil and good. Is it not strange that people who belong to a Christian community can deliberately choose to misinterpret the words and command of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on whose name our national aspirations anchor. Sending his disciples on a final mission after His Resurrection our Savior said;

“Matthew:10.16
I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Matthew:10.17
“Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues.”

Now how right is it for any agent of light to question the instructions of whom they represent.

During the rule of the able and humble leadership of the Sixth Republican President Dr ECL this country was given a designated Day of worship and reconciliation the Day the very people who are trivializing the Lord’s call today described as a Day of devil worshippers and non in their leadership files ever attended.

If that wasn’t enough even the Ministry that was created to oversee over the Nations Moral and spiritual affairs was the first to be scrapped off, then this Nation begin to see agents of darkness matching through our cities proclaiming a non Christian conducts of same sex marriage and to date no leader big or small from the Upnd Government has ever condemned such evil conducts and no conviction has been made despite the culprits breaking a constitutional law.

We have seen Embassies of Countries that worship strange gods fly flags for groupings that propagate antichrist practices in our nation without been questioned.

Lastly all those politicizing the scriptures quoted by Dr ECl are nothing but agents of Darkness. ECL never said a word of his own but only quoted a scripture of instruction by our Lord Jesus Christ himself.

Zambia must pray and we must be aware of this battle between light and darkness. We are resolved to stand by our Christian faith and we shall never shun to proclaim that which has made us to be a peaceful and prosperous state from time in memorial.

All well meaning and God fearing citizens must go on their knees for this country’s Christian Nation proclamation is under a serious attack.

We shall stand in the highways of light and ECL is the touch bearer in our cause.

ZAMBIAN’S NEED A NEW MINDSET TOWARDS WORK!

0

ZAMBIAN’S NEED A NEW MINDSET TOWARDS WORK!

PRESS STATEMENT.

As citizens of the Republic of Zambia, we need a total overhaul of our mindsets regarding our perception towards work!

Our minds are corrupt when it comes to work. We only believe that work could only be a formal engagement where someone is given a white collar employment that recquires sitting in office. Only individuals who are on a monthly salary and are given terms and conditions are said to be formally employed.

In Zambia we are solely dependant on the Government providing adquate and sufficient jobs for us. Further more, our education system is crafted in such a way that young ones can only start working after attaining high academic credentials.

TAKE A LESSON FROM REFUGEES.

Refugees are people who have come to live in our Country after running away from their native Countries ravaged by Civil wars, Ethnic conflicts, Political turmoils and Natural calamities. Refugees are different from investors who come to our Country to conduct businesses.

Refugees come to our Country literally with nothing for themselves. These colleagues of ours are expected to live in designated Settlement Camps established in Maheba (Solwezi – North Western Province), Matampala (Nchelenge – Luapula Province) and Mayukwayukwa (Kaoma – Western Province).

However the economic conditions in these Camps are so unbearable and pathetic to the extent that the Office of the Commissioner for Refugees allow the Refugees to accessing major towns so that the refugees could engage themselves into finding temporal jobs or some form of piece work in order for them to sustain themselves materially.

Immediately refugees are given some Mobility Pass, they work extremely hard and are able to establish different enterprises meant to help them sustain themselves. Refugees work very hard and within a short period of time, they are able to grow their small businesses to an extent that the local people begin to admire their successes and accomplishments.

It is sad that instead of learning something from refugees and replicate their mindsets, many local people begin to harass them and address them with all sorts of names. Some local people even tend to take advantage of them and begin extorting them money using unscrupulous means.

We need to realize that work is not all about getting employed in Government and being put on salary. Anything that one does as long as it can afford us to put food on the table is work. It should take humility on our part accepting to do anything that can help us sustain our families.

I wish to confess that from infancy, I have personally never worked for anyone. I learnt some construction skills at a tender age. I was running a carpentry workshop while attending tertiary education. I used to repair sofas, kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, plumbing works and other skills while going to school.

Even when I worked as a volunteer in a religious Organization, I was running some business as my part time job. I could get some projects building for some people. I used to do roofing of structures, house installations and fixing ceiling boards for some houses. At some point, I used to buy some second hand vehicles, remodel them and reselling them at the same time.

Simply put, I have never suffered in my life. Instead of looking for a job, I often create employment for others. Until recently, I founded an Organization called Movement for Promoting National Values and Principles while maintaining my Construction Company that I established some 10 years ago.

It is high time we came out from slumber as citizens and help the Government by taking initiative of various opportunities offered to us. As a Country we are blessed with relative peace and stability. The Government ‘s role is simply meant to provide an enabling environment for all the citizens to businesses. In fact Politicians must never mislead us, there will never be a Government that will manage employing everyone!

Crisis-hit university students ordered to leave UK

0

Nigerian students have been thrown off university courses and ordered to leave the UK after a currency crisis left them struggling to pay tuition fees on time.

Teesside University students were blocked from their studies and reported to the Home Office after the value of Nigeria’s naira plummeted, wiping out their savings.

Some told the BBC they felt suicidal as they accused the university of taking a “heartless” approach to those who fell into arrears as a consequence.

A university spokesman said failure to pay was a breach of visa sponsorship requirements, and that it had “no choice” but to alert the Home Office. The Home Office said visa sponsorship decisions rested with the institution.

Nigeria is currently experiencing its worst economic crisis in a generation, which is having a significant impact on Nigerian students at some UK universities.

Average inflation is almost 34%, and the situation deteriorated when the country’s president attempted to replace old currency with new.

The currency subsequently depreciated by over 100% against the dollar in a year.

Before beginning their studies at Teesside, affected students were told they had to show proof of having enough funds to pay tuition fees and living expenses.

However, those funds were significantly depleted as a result of the crisis in their home country.

This exacerbated financial problems already being experienced by students as a result of the university changing tuition fee payment plans from seven instalments to three.

A group of students, 60 of whom shared their names with the BBC, began pressing the university for support after a number of people who defaulted on payments were frozen out of university accounts and involuntarily withdrawn from their courses.

Some were reportedly also contacted by debt collection agencies contracted by the university.

Adenike Ibrahim was close to handing in her dissertation at the end of two years of study when she missed one payment and was then kicked off her course and reported to the Home Office.

She subsequently paid the outstanding fees, but said she had not been re-enrolled and was told she must leave the country, along with her young son.

“I did default [on payments], but I’d already paid 90% of my tuition fees and I went to all of my classes,” she said.

“I called them and asked to reach an agreement, but they do not care what happens to their students.”

She said the experience was “horrendous” and she did not know what was happening with her qualification.

“It has been heartbreaking for my son especially, he has been in so much distress since I told him,” Ms Ibrahim added.

No right of appeal

The Home Office told students, including Ms Ibrahim, that their permission to enter the UK had been cancelled because they stopped studying at the university.

The letters, seen by the BBC, offer a date by which the student must leave the country and say they do not have a “right of appeal or administrative review against the decision”.

Since receiving his letter, one masters degree student – who did not want to be named – said he had seriously considered suicide and was not eating or drinking.

The university said it had made “every effort” to support affected students, who had now been offered individual meetings with specialist staff and bespoke payment plans where requested.

Esther Obigwe said she repeatedly tried to speak to the university about her financial struggles but received no response, until she too was blocked from her studies and received notice to leave the country.

“I attended all of my classes and seminars, I’m a hell of an active student,” she said.

“It is disheartening, I am now on antidepressants and being here alone, I have nobody to talk to.

“For over two months, I’ve barely eaten or slept and I don’t understand why this is being meted at us, we didn’t do anything wrong.”

She added that most of the students had “spent a lot of money to be here”.

Jude Salubi, who was studying to be a social worker, was midway through a placement when he was told his access to the university was suspended and he would have to leave the country.

Prior to that, he travelled from Teesside to Liverpool each weekend to work 18 hours in an attempt to pay off the outstanding fees.

“As of now I have paid £14,000 and have a balance of £14,000,” he said.

“I am willing to come to an agreement as to how I will make this payment, but I need guarantees that I will be re enrolled into school and my visa restored.”

Some affected students have managed to pay off outstanding fees, but the university is now unable to intervene in the Home Office process, the BBC understands.

A university spokesman said: “Teesside University is proud to be a global institution with a diverse student population but is also very aware of its obligations regarding visa issuance and compliance.

“These strict external regulations ensure that the university fully supports a robust immigration system and is outside of the university’s control.”

The spokesman added it was “aware of the challenging financial situation faced by some students” and had “actively offered bespoke payment plans where requested”.

“This option has been taken up by many of our international students; however, some students have still defaulted on these revised payment plans,” he said.

The Home Office said a decision to offer or withdraw visa sponsorship rested with the sponsoring institution.

A spokesman said wherever a visa was shortened or cancelled, individuals should “take steps to regularise their stay or make arrangements to leave the UK”.

Some students accused the university of being “heartless”

Adenike Ibrahim was close to graduating when she had her visa revoked

Esther Obigwe is avoiding telling her family about what has happened to her as she is so embarrassed

Jude Salubri wants the university to reinstate affected students and engage more with them

New evidence reveal Apple sourcing minerals from conflict areas in east DRC

0

International lawyers representing the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo said on Wednesday they had new evidence gathered from whistleblowers, which deepened concerns that Apple could be sourcing minerals from conflict areas in eastern Congo.

In a statement, the lawyers urged Apple to answer questions about its supply chain in the country, and said they were evaluating legal options. Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Congo has been ravaged by violence since the 1990s, particularly in the restive east, where a myriad of armed groups, some of them allegedly backed by neighbouring Rwanda, fight over national identity, ethnicity, and resources.

Congo’s lawyers notified Apple CEO Tim Cook on April 22 of a series of concerns about its supply chain, and also wrote to Apple subsidiaries in France, demanding answers within three weeks.

The firm said in a statement on Wednesday that, four weeks later, “the tech giant has remained silent and neither answered nor even acknowledged receipt of the questions.”

One of the lawyers, Robert Amsterdam, said the firm has since received new evidence from whistleblowers.

“It is more urgent than ever that Apple provide real answers to the very serious questions we have raised,” he said in the statement.

Apple has said in the past that it does not directly buy, procure or source primary minerals, and it has been auditing its suppliers for several years and publishing its findings.

In a report last year, it said that 100% of identified smelters and refiners in the supply chain for all applicable Apple products manufactured in 2023 had participated in an independent third-party conflict minerals audit for tin, tantalum, and tungsten, known as 3T minerals, and gold (3TG).

“We found no reasonable basis for concluding that any of the smelters or refiners of 3TG determined to be in our supply chain as of December 31, 2023 directly or indirectly financed or benefited armed groups in the DRC or an adjoining country,” the Apple report said.

Another lawyer from Amsterdam & Partners LLP, Peter Sahlas, told Reuters that people who worked on Apple’s supply chain verification in Congo had come forward to say that their contracts were terminated after they flagged concerns that “blood minerals” were in Apple’s supply chain.

“We are engaging with these individuals and evaluating their evidence and will have more to say once we have completed robust verifications,” Sahlas said, without giving further details.

Since the letter issued by Congo lawyers in April, clashes have intensified in eastern Congo where M23 rebels have seized control of Rubaya, a key mining town for coltan used in smartphones and other appliances.

GOVERNMENT TO RECRUIT QUALIFIED ACCOUNTANTS IN ALLSECONDARY SCHOOLS

GOVERNMENT TO RECRUIT QUALIFIED ACCOUNTANTS IN ALL
SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Lusaka, Zambia, 22nd May 2024.

The Zambia Institute of Chartered
Accountants (ZICA) wishes to commend Government through the Ministry of Education for considering action on the issue of recruiting accountants in Secondary Schools countrywide. This is gratifying and will help promote accountability and efficiency in the use and application of resources but also additionally provides employment to the Zambian accountant. Accountability and prudent use of grants and Government resources will ensure the
enhancement of the free education policy introduced by Government across the Country.

We trust that as the recruitment process of accountants for secondary schools commences, a pre-requisite will be that they are fully qualified and registered with ZICA. As an Institute ZICA is on hand to work with Government in this recruitment process to ensure that vetting is done in compliance with the Accountants Act before accountants are engaged. This will also ensure that
Government and those recruited need to confirm validity of membership to meet the regulation of practice. The Institute provides oversight on the practice of accountancy in the country and through the Disciplinary Committee ensures that erring members are sanctioned to restore trust leadership and sanity in the profession.

The Institute wishes to reiterate that in accordance with of the Accountants Act No. 13 of 2008, section 18 (1) A person shall not, unless the person is registered as a Chartered Accountant under this Act- (a) practice as, be employed as, offer services as, or hold out to be, a chartered Accountant.

It is clear that the recruitment of qualified accountants together with robust internal control systems will help in the strategic planning and financial decision-making processes, which are crucial for the long-term development of educational institutions. It is evident that the integration of skilled financial and other professionals into the educational framework value chain will not
only be beneficial but necessary for the advancement of the education sector in Zambia.

Further, we note the process of revising of the Zambian school curriculum. It is important that all stakeholders are adequately engaged to ensure personal financial and management issues are taught at very early stages in life. This will ensure a cadre of children who are financially and morally upright to be able
to take the development of the nation to a higher level.

WORST PERFORMING POLICE EQUAL TO WORST PERFORMING COMMANDER – IN – CHIEF (PRESIDENT)- Fred M’membe

0

WORST PERFORMING POLICE EQUAL TO WORST PERFORMING COMMANDER – IN – CHIEF (PRESIDENT)

The Zambia Police Service has been ranked to be one of the worst performing police in the world.

This is according to the World Internal Security and Police Index, which ranked the Zambia Police Service at 112 out of the total of 127 countries.

We are not surprised by this terrible ranking because under Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his corrupt, tribal and violent administration, we have witnessed the Zambia Police Service at its worst possible period in history. We have seen the UPND’s cheap, dangerous and barbaric way of using the police to spread terror, wanton repression, and heightened human rights violations in the country.

We have also seen how violence and all other forms of political repression and criminality are being committed by UPND cadres led by identifiable individuals some of them Cabinet Ministers and senior part officials under the full protection of the Zambia Police Service.

Well-known UPND cadres have been knifing, assaulting, beating, kidnapping and publicly threatening to “slaughter” opposition political leaders and other critical voices in the name of protecting Mr Hichilema with the police doing nothing about it. Even our numerous complaints and reports to the police have fallen on deaf ears. Whenever a report is made to the police, it’s us, the victims of Mr Hichilema’s cadres’ violence who get locked up and are prosecuted. This is the impunity that the perpetrators of these crimes are enjoying for their crimes with the help and support of the Zambia Police Service.

Therefore, this ranking of the Zambia Police Service as one of the worst performing police in the world doesn’t come as a surprise to us at all. As it perfectly suits the situation we are currently going through as political players and also corroborates with what institutions like the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) have been saying on the need for the Zambia Police Service to “immediately realign to practices with democratic democratic tenets for the benefit of citizens”.

However, we strongly feel that the problem in all this does not lie with the Zambia Police Service. It lies with those who control, direct, and command those who head the police. It lies squarely with Mr Hichilema, the Commander – in – Chief!

All the mischief, confusion, and reckless bravado that is coming from the police high command through the Inspector General Mr. Graphael Musamba is merely conveying Mr Hichilema’s decisions. These are Mr Hichilema’s own decisions. So we should all address these numerous violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms guaranteed and protected by our constitution with Mr Hichilema.

He is the culprit behind all these abuses. He is the principal violator of our human rights and fundamental freedoms and must be held responsible for his actions against the people and the constitution he has sworn to uphold. Mr Hichilema should not be allowed to hide behind the police.

In fact, this poor ranking of the Zambia Police Service directly points to Mr Hichilema’s poor, unaccountable and inexperienced leadership in dealing with national affairs.

It is illogical to think that the Zambia Police Service can be among the worst performing in the world and the Commander- in – Chief, the President remains one of the best performing presidents. How can that be? It’s impossible.

It’s simple, worst performing police equal to worst performing Commander- in – Chief. The buck stops at him and let him own this embarrassment.

HARDSHIP: THE HUNGER IS TOO MUCH FOR ZAMBIANS- Fred M’membe

HARDSHIP: THE HUNGER IS TOO MUCH FOR ZAMBIANS

We urge Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his government to acknowledge the immense hardships currently facing the people and commit towards guaranteeing a practical economic recovery plan, which will significantly improve the standard of living.

We say this because life for the majority of our people is getting extremely desperate. There is no doubt that every new day is presenting fresh and unbearable challenges for the great majority of our people. Lately, the local news on various media platforms is never short of stories about price adjustments. It’s one price increment after another! That is how our people are getting by, but the question is: for how long?

Fuel is unreasonably high, food prices are skyrocketing, loadshedding is at its peak – 12 hours per day, mealie meal is scarce and unfordable for many, water rationing has begun, employee’s salaries are being wiped out by the economic meltdown, and many other challenges. The country is collapsing in our faces. Where is the leadership of Mr Hichilema? Where are the “brilliant ideas” they had before being elected into office? What has happened to the promises Mr Hichilema made?

Mr Hichilema and his government must realise that the honeymoon is over! The boasting and self-praise cannot get the people out of these hardships. It’s time to work. Let him fix the economy, as he had promised, and ease the burden of misery and squalor amongst the people. He needs to fix the cost of living, high fuel and food prices, loadshedding, water rationing and shortages, poor salaries for workers, and many other problems facing the people.

Let him stop running away from the real issues – fixing the economy and fulfilling the promises he made to the people. Let him show commitment to the economic survival of the country and the people. The people are eager to see a president who will make Zambia better and more affordable prices for all. And not a president whose preoccupation is to make things worse. People have suffered enough, and they don’t want a president or government that is an impediment to improved standard of living.

We call upon Mr Hichilema and his government to urgently attend to the many challenges facing the country and create an all-inclusive, fair, and equitable system of governance, which will benefit all Zambians. There is a need for them to restructure the country’s finances to match its priorities and boost the purchasing power of the population, especially the vulnerable to guarantee a trickle- down effect of prosperity.

Life has become unreasonably high and unfair. We urge Mr Hichilema to disengage from the self-serving and posturing leadership he is in, which is premised on self-preservation and self-aggrandizement. These retrogressive traits need to be halted lest we end up worse than we are today.

Enough of the suffering.

General Shikapwasha had 18 children…he had 12 children outside wedlock, each with their own mother

Shikapwasha had 12 baby mamas, court hears

LATE Lieutenant General reverend Ronnie Shikapwasha’s commitment to fulfilling the biblical command of filling this earth came to the fore yesterday as his daughter revealed that he had 12 children outside wedlock, each with their own mother.

All together, Lt Shikapwasha had 18 children.

The information emerged during the continued trial of 73-year old Jane Lusengo in the Lusaka High Court for the alleged murder of the former retired ZAF commander general Shikapwasha on January 15, 2024, during a marital dispute.

During the continued cross examination of his daughter Vanessa by defense lawyer Gilbert Lindani, lady Justice Conceptor Zulu heard that the former minister of home affairs who was a church reverend was a quite committed to the biblical command of filling the earth.

Vanessa who denied being deported from China when she went for studies within a space of two months in 2004 on reasons that she was pregnant said she only lived with the couple for a few days and she was wedded.

The 38-year old denied being begrudged towards Lusengo for influencing her father to eject her from the house on several occasions when she was deported from China.

When asked if her father had filed a petition for divorce, for the dissolution of his marriage to Lusengo Vanessa denied.

She denied conniving with her aunt to draft the bill of divorcement during the night of the shooting incident.

Vanessa confirmed that Lusengo would write draft job application letters for her to copy from but she did not write the bill of divorcement.

She also denied witnessing her father draft the Bill of divorcement.

Vanessa said Abner was arrested together with Lusengo but was released on a condition that he be turned into a State witness.

When asked if she was aware that Abner’s mother was Lusengo’s maid and was eject from the annex at her father’s home when she fell pregnant, Vanessa expressed ignorance saying she was only told about Abner’s uncle who worked as a chef of the Shikapwashas.

She confirmed that her father was legally married twice and had four children with his first wife and two with Lusango.

Vanessa who confirmed having been introduced to her stepmother at church said herself and 11 other children were born outside the couple’s marriage and each child has their own mother.

She said the late Shikapwasha has 18 children which is inclusive of the 6 legitimate children.

Vanessa said she wouldn’t know if the deceased has twins in Tanzania and other children born in Rwanda and Mozambique.

Shikapwasha’s daughter clarified that Lusengo never had children out of wedlock or outside marriage.

She said following the arrest of her stepmother, she only visited her once in prison. At this point Lusengo made a ‘hum’ sound as she expressed her disappointment.

Vanessa said after the funeral, she packed out of her father’s house and she is now squatting at former first Lady Maureen Mwanawasa’s house in Roma park.

She said on the fateful day she thought Lusengo was running away from general Shikapwasha as he would always beat her over her unfaithfulness, not until she saw her with a double barrel shotgun.

“Milika told me dad would always beat her up (Lusengo) because of infidelity. On that day I thought she was running away from dad because he would normally beat her but I didn’t see dad chasing her when I saw her with the gun,” Vanessa said.

She told the Court that whenever general Shikapwasha battered his wife, he would take her to Maureen’s house so that she could tend to her swelling from the beatings.

“Whenever he beat her up he would take her to aunt Maureen,” Vanessa said.

She said Lt General Shikapwasha never allowed his wife to own a phone in the last three years of their marriage and whenever someone wanted to talk to her, they had to call him and he would put the phone on loud speaker.

Vanessa also disclosed that her father was a possessive lover who accompanied his wife to kitchen parties and he never allowed her to go anywhere without him.

During cross examination by another defense lawyer M Musukwa Vanessa confirmed that Lusengo reciprocated her husband’s affection when he gave her mangoes whilst joking that it was the sweet fruit that Adam gave to Eve.

When asked if her father would commit adultery and accuse his wife of being unfaithful, Vanessa confirmed.

She further admitted that Lusengo took in the late Shikapwasha’s children notable among them Milika, Tivo, Abner and herself and raised them as her own.

She added that during investigations, she told the police officers about the other guns that were in the house which included a pistol and an AK 47 riffle.

Trial continues on May 29.

SATA NEVER MEANT THAT LUNGU WAS PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL- SIKAILE SIKAILE

SATA NEVER MEANT THAT LUNGU WAS PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL

Former President Mr. Lungu had no presidential ambitions. However, he was convinced by those around him, who saw him as a means to climb the political ladder, to seize the opportunity. Additionally, another group of elites wanted him in office to continue looting public resources, especially families that have suffocated our politics since 1964. These families have been present in every government for their own enrichment and they control key state apparatus.

Before President Sata died, the PF was already experiencing succession problems. To avoid this tension, Sata when going out prior to his death decided to appoint ECL, who had no presidential ambitions, to act as a temporary leader. The intention was to prevent those with presidential ambitions, such as Kabimba, GBM, Kambwili, Sampa, and others, from the feeling that Sata had chosen them as his successor. This was a wise move by Sata at solving party level problems. I recall an incident when Winter Kabimba, acting as president, took the presidential motorcade to his village, causing confusion within the PF. Winter would openly boast that when he speaks, then Sata has spoken claiming to be Sata’s favourite. Such incidents prompted Sata to use ECL, which reduced the tension.

However, it was a mistake on Sata’s part not to consider the consequences of leaving someone without a vision in that position. ECL himself confessed during Sata’s funeral that he had no ambitions of becoming president and mentioned his health conditions.

This is why I sometimes feel that President Edgar Lungu did not care about this country. Criminals, both local and external, exploited our resources with impunity because he had no understanding of the office he occupied. He had no value attached to it and allowed misrule, where everyone, including thugs, assumed presidential powers.

Once and for all, I agree with what Tayali Chilufya said that “You can ask Edgar Lungu to explain his solution to our economic problems, and he will not say anything.” This statement by Tayali is very true. Those who want to support Lungu should let the media host him and ask him to elaborate on how he plans to develop Zambia—you will be shocked by his lack of answers. Even those who rally behind him today either directly benefited from his misrule and want to return to power to continue stealing public resources through backdoors, or they are from small political parties that just want him to bankroll them and advance their personal interests.

Therefore, it is wrong for ECL to think he was a political giant destined for the presidency. ECL became president by mistake, and his seven years of misrule have led to many of the problems we are enduring today. If you have facts other than mine, please challenge me in the comment section.

Saboi seperates from Makebi Zulu advocates, continues search for Hamasakas

DESPITE having challenges to round up five Hamasakas to aid her defense, songstress Saboi Imboela now has to deal with the stress of finding new lawyers to defend her libel case and save her from trouble.

Saboi who seems to have slit up with Makebi Zulu’s junior lawyers Emmanuel Phiri and Melisa Phiri, pleaded with principal resident magistrate Sylvia Munyinya to adjourn her case and allow her engage new lawyers.

“I would like to be given some time to change counsel,” she said.

Saboi’s application was met with opposition from State advocate Lewis Kandele who argued that her lawyers did not file a notice of withdrawal in accordance with procedure.

“From the time the matter came up, the accused knew that she was supposed to proceed with defence. If there were unresolved issues with her counsel, she should have put her house in order on time,”Kandele said.

“She has not informed court why she wants to change counsel at the eleventh hour. This is a mere ploy to delay this matter. We last had a defence witness on stand on 22 February, 2024. And today is the 20th of May and this court is being asked for an adjournment.”

He said Saboi was not utilising Judicial time effectively as she was perpetually asking for adjournments and wasting the Court’s time.

In response Saboi said not all adjournments were occasioned at her instance.

“None of the adjournments were caused by me. It is in my best interest that the matter be concluded as soon as possible. For the reasons as to why am changing counsel, if the court asks, am ready to give the reasons. I feel I need to be given the right to get new counsel,” she said.

Kandele maintained that Saboi did not given concrete reasons for the Court to grant the adjournment.

“She has to be reminded that adjournments are at the discretion of the Court and it’s the duty of parties to pursuade Court to grant the application and by what she had indicated, she has not exhibited anything for this court to grant the application,”said Kandele.

“Our contention is that she had all the time. Why should she wakeup today and ask that she needs more time. She has not demonstrated that she needs to be given more time, hence our objection.

Magistrate Munyinya ruled that she would adjourn the matter to June 12 in the interest of Justice.

In this case Saboi is facing two counts of libel for alleging that State House Chief Communications specialist Clayson Hamasaka was corrupt and that he was at the verge of being divorced by his wife for his promiscuity…https://kalemba.news/…/saboi-seperates-from-makebi…/

THE LUSAKA-NDOLA DUAL CARRIAGEWAY WILL, AMONG OTHER THINGS, CONTRIBUTE TO INCREASED
CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN KEY ECONOMIC HUBS – HH

President Hichilema writes…

Fellow citizens,

Today was a momentous and historical occasion as we officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the commencement of the construction works for the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway.

This is one of the major projects to be financed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in our quest to save money from the government treasury.

To us and the country, this is a significant infrastructure as part of our commitment to improving our nation’s road network, enhancing transportation efficiency, and fostering economic growth.

The Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway will undoubtedly contribute to safer travel, reduced travel times, and increased connectivity between key economic hubs.

We reiterated our call to the developers to deliver a quality road within the stipulated time frame. We further thanked them for engaging more of our youth along the stretch in the construction but called them to do more by engaging Zambians in the subcontracting category.

We call on our citizens to fully cooperate with the developers during the construction period and beyond.

Let’s develop Zambia together. Great things are coming.

Professor has been sentenced to two years in jail for criticising the junta

A prominent Malian economist and professor has been sentenced to two years in jail, one of which was suspended, for his criticism of the military junta.

Étienne Fakaba Sissoko was also ordered to pay a fine of 3m CFA francs ($4,900; £3,900).

The 41-year-old academic, who has been in custody since March, was charged with defamation and damaging the state’s reputation by distributing fake news.

The charges relate to a book he published last year, which he defended in court, saying the work was based on fact.

Human rights groups say his is the latest case in a widespread crackdown on critics and political opponents of the military rulers.

They came to power in August 2020 when then-President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta was overthrown in a coup after huge anti-government protests over his handling of jihadist unrest.

Sissoko’s lawyer, Ibrahim Marhouf Sacko, said he was “not surprised” by the verdict and would be filing an appeal, the AFP news agency reported.

The University of Bamako professor once served as an adviser to the late Mr Keïta and spent several months in jail in 2022, according to AFP.

The work that prompted his latest arrest is called Propaganda, Agitation and Harassment – government communication during the transition in Mali.

It accuses the junta of using manipulation and “even lies” to sway public opinion in its favour.

Before his arrest, Sissoko also published a post on Facebook calling for elections to be held.

The junta has faced criticism for reneging on agreed timelines for transitioning to democratic civilian rule. Elections due to be held in February were again postponed.

Critics also say the military-led government has failed to adequately tackle the worsening jihadist insurgency, despite the reported deployment of Wagner group mercenaries and expulsion of UN peacekeepers.

It has also faced criticism over its handling of the economy.

Earlier this month, participants in a what has been termed a “national dialogue” suggested the extension of the transition period by another three years.

Several junta critics have been jailed over the last year, including popular social media influencer Rokia Doumbia and prominent activist Adama Ben Diarra.

In April, the junta also suspended political activities and imposed a media blackout on political coverage.
