King Charles’ funeral plans are already set amid his battle with pancreatic cancer

0

King Charles’ funeral plans are already set amid his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Though he has been the British monarch for only 18 months, following his ascension to the throne on May 6, 2023, plans have been laid out for the eventual demise of King Charles III.

When Queen Elizabeth II died, Operation London Bridge was activated to facilitate the smooth transition of power to her son, then-Prince Charles.

Now, with Prince Charles’ cancer getting worse, royal insiders tell In Touch that Charles’ final resting plans are of timely prioritization.

The plans have been dubbed “Operation Menai Bridge”, named after the world’s first iron suspension bridge in Anglesey, Wales.

“It’s a fairly common thing to do among the British royalty, but in Charles’ case expediency is necessary,” says the source, who notes that “some courtiers believe Charles’ cancer is worse than they’re making it out to be.”

“Operation Menai Bridge” is set to include familiar protocols. When the monarch dies, Charles’ body will be moved from the throne room at Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. He will lie in state, and his official funeral will take place nine days later. He will likely be buried in the royal vault at Windsor Castle.

The update comes shortly after a separate high ranking royal insider told In Touch that Charles is not only battling pancreatic cancer – a timely update given that he did not share what kind of cancer he was diagnosed with – but has a mere two years to live.

“King Charles is much sicker than the palace lets on and simply isn’t up to the job of running his fractious family, the crown’s business interests and fulfilling the daily duties of the monarchy,” the member of the royal inner circle revealed in early March.

“His cancer is eating him alive. He’s very frail. The situation is desperate.”

Even Queen Camilla is said to be frustrated by Charles’ declining health and weakened status.

“Behind the scenes, Camilla is disgusted by the king’s apparent weakness and is providing him little comfort as he battles his fatal cancer,” a palace courtier told In Touch in early March.”

Buckingham Palace announced in February that King Charles III had been diagnosed with cancer. The form of cancer was not disclosed and there were speculations it was prostate cancer because the condition was identified during an operation that treated the British monarch’s benign prostate enlargement. However, a palace spokesperson clarified that Charles does not have prostate cancer.

The high-ranking royal insider who spoke to In Touch has now claimed that Charles is battling pancreatic cancer and has been given a short time to live.

Italy scrambles to save teetering tower from crumbling

People were worried it might fall down, but now they have a plan to save it using the same equipment used for the Tower of Pisa. The Torre Garisenda in Bologna is leaning like the Tower of Pisa.

The Garisenda tower was built 800 years ago in the city’s busy period, but it started leaning two hundred years later. Today, it is leaning at a 4-degree angle, slightly more than the Pisa tower’s 3. 9-degree slant

A few months ago, the streets near Garisenda were closed for a while so that scientists could watch and check for any signs of the building starting to move or break. They found that it was likely to collapse soon.

The mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, said on Wednesday that they will use pylons, cables, and steel scaffolding to keep the tower in Pisa from falling apart. “We will be able to make sure the tower is safe,” Lepore said at a press conference. He said that it could allow the Asinelli Tower, a taller building next to the Garisenda Tower, to open again for people to visit.

“In 2025 and 2026, more work will be done to fix and restore things, but the details are not yet decided,” Lepori said.

Fame for writing.

The mayor said it will take “about six months” to adjust the equipment from the Tower of Pisa to Garisenda. The whole safety operation will cost around 19 million euros (about US$20 million).

Once the two steel support structures in Pisa are set up and adjusted to fit Garisenda, the tower’s bricks will be strengthened. This includes adding a special kind of mortar that matches the original construction. This information comes from a press release from the city.

First, the cables that connect the big poles to the scaffolding on the tower will be pulled tight. This will help lower the amount of stress at the bottom of the tower.

The Torre Garisenda in Bologna is not as famous as the one in Pisa, but it’s still a popular spot for tourists to visit. It was mentioned in a famous poem from the 14th century. The taller Torre degli Asinelli is also a popular attraction for tourists, but it leans less than the other tower.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa, which is a famous building in a special place that UNESCO says is important, leaned at an angle of 4. 5 degrees in the early 1990s. People were worried the structure might fall down, so people from different countries worked together for eight years starting in 1993 to make sure it stayed standing.

Today the bell tower is a strong landmark because of the steel pylons. This will hopefully help the Garisenda tower last longer.

50 Cent Ready To Pay “Top Dollar” For Alleged Diddy Tapes

Cost of living reaches K10,000 as fears grow over Hichilema’s
re-election50 Cent has consistently been the biggest troll out there when it comes to Diddy and his current scandal. Overall, Fif is someone who is constantly trying to get under people’s skin. If he has an issue with you, he will make social media posts about you for years. For instance, he hasn’t stopped going after the likes of Young Buck and Ja Rule. As for Diddy, he has been reveling in the allegations levied the music mogul. Ever since the raids at Diddy’s home on Monday, Fif has been very much active on social media, and he has stayed ready with the memes.

However, one of the latest developments in the Diddy scandal involves him in a roundabout way. As we reportedly, Daphne Joy, Fif’s ex, was named as one of Diddy’s alleged sex workers. This subsequently led to a response from 50 Cent, who couldn’t help but make another joke. Now, Fif is taking aim at the alleged video evidence that exists of Diddy’s parties. These parties were allegedly attended by big-name celebrities and politicians. There is suspicion that these are the videos the feds were looking for on Monday.

In a post on his Instagram account, Fif revealed that he wants to have possession of these tapes. “I’ll pay top dollar for them,” he said matter-of-factly. Overall, it is pretty doubtful that these videos are actually for sale. After all, the alleged videos would ultimately be evidence for a federal case. The concept of Fif getting a hold of them sounds pretty far-fetched. Regardless, this is a way for him to troll, so you can be sure he’s not going to pass it up.

Let us know what you think about 50 Cent and his constant attempts at trolling Diddy, in the comments section down below. Do you think that Diddy is eventually going to respond? Do you believe 50 has a documentary on the way? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

THE UPND/ZAMBIA POLICE ALLIANCE WILL DESTROY HICHILEMA- Fred M’membeFred M’membe

THE UPND/ZAMBIA POLICE ALLIANCE WILL DESTROY HICHILEMA

The ridiculous, cheap, and archaic methods applied by the UPND to win yesterday’s deputy mayoral elections in Kitwe and Ndola serve as a template for the 2026 general elections.

A blatant and gigantic electoral fraud took place yesterday when the Zambia Police, clearly working in collaboration with the UPND and the Copperbelt provincial administration moved in to detain the Ndola mayor and two councillors in Kitwe in order to reduce the PF numbers in the two council chambers.

As expected, the UPND won the elections in both councils by a single vote. If they can be this brazen and desperate now, what will prevent them from arresting and detaining parliamentary and presidential candidates in the 2026 general elections on nomination day?

In Mkushi, the UPND unleashed its cadres to beat up their own councillors whom they accused of voting with the PF, which resulted in them losing the Mkushi council elections. The Mkushi defeat was too embarrassing to stomach because it is believed that some of their own councillors, including three traditional leaders that sit in the council, voted against the UPND candidate hence the violence.

But what is even more shocking about the UPND is the level of self-deception and lack of shame or restraint in whatever they do. They’re an extremely primitive, shameless clique and are brutal in their desperate pursuit of power and control. So, after applying ridiculous, cheap, and archaic methods to win yesterday’s council elections in Kitwe and Ndola, you will see them even congratulating themselves and celebrating the victory, a fraudulent victory for that matter. The UPND are very abnormal in the way they do things!

Evidently, these elections are testing Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to upholding democratic standards and decent political contests. But we have said it before that Mr Hichilema is a coward. He can never subject himself to a free and fair election contest. That is why he has coopted the Zambia Police, which is currently under the worst high command in the history of this country to manipulate elections with him.

They have disastrously failed to deliver on their campaign promises as well as marshal sufficient political support to guarantee their re-election in 2026. So, they’ve formed the UPND/Zambia Police Alliance to boost their chances of returning power, but it won’t work. With or without the UPND/Zambia Police Alliance, Mr Hichilema is leaving office in 2026.

As for the Zambian people, we would like to caution them to brace themselves for the worst elections ever in 2026 because of the shameless and undemocratic nature of Mr Hichilema and the UPND. These people are determined maim, injure, and if possible, even kill just for votes! To them, an election mean war.

But Mr Hichilema must not cheat himself that he will thrust himself on the people by abusing the police, judiciary, and the Electoral Commission of Zambia because that will be fearlessly resisted. They will be confronted and defeated with unseen before courage and determination together with the state institutions they’ve compromised and recruited in their scheme for 2026.

As the Socialist Party, we sincerely believe that the best way to choose leaders is definitely through elections. However, we would like to remind Mr Hichilema and all the state institutions that have hired themselves to ruling elite, lost credibility, and are now being used to destroy our democracy that history has shown that once elections become less and less credible, people turn to themselves for redemption because elections are not the only way of choosing leaders. People can choose leaders in many other ways if elections completely lose credibility.

The rapid shrinking democratic space and wanton abuse of the police and other state institutions by Mr Hichilema is nothing but a recipe for disaster. For instance, Mr Hichilema has been holding meetings and rallies from the time he ascended to power in 2021, while no opposition leaders are allowed to do the same. You cannot have a situation where opposition political parties cannot even hold the smallest of meetings. And you want them to participate in an election? Even in cases where they participate in elections, you unleash violence, the police and state machinery on them. What type of democracy is this? What type of desperation is this?

This dangerous path Zambia, under Mr Hichilema, has taken will lead to serious problems in the 2026 general elections. Mr Hichilema is already campaigning for 2026, but we are not allowed to do the same. The UPND, with the help of the police has been perpetrating violence against the opposition political parties, but the opposition parties are not allowed to defend themselves.

Again, when all state institutions that exist to protect our democracy and people fail, people turn to themselves and look at what they can do for themselves. That is certainly not a recipe for good governance and stability. It’s a recipe for instability anarchy.

Mr Hichilema and his corrupt tribal puppet regime must tone down and allow democracy to flourish. They found this democracy and they shall definitely leave it.

NELLY MUTTI, TWO DEPUTIES, IG GRAPHEL MUSAMBA ARE A BIG THREAT TO OUR PEACE AND UNITY – UMODZI KUMAWA

NELLY MUTTI, TWO DEPUTIES, IG GRAPHEL MUSAMBA ARE A BIG THREAT TO OUR PEACE AND UNITY – UMODZI KUMAWA

In a shocking display of partisanship and regional bias, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Nelly Mutti State Counsel, and her Deputies have shown a clear disregard for the principles of fairness, impartiality, good governance and democracy. We have also noted that this politically compromised behavior has been mirrored by the conduct of the Zambia Police IG and some of his officers.

As UMODZI KUM’MAWA, also known as KUM’MAWA DEVELOPMENT COALITION (KDC), vehemently denounces and condemns their unprofessional behavior in all strongest terms as this now undermines Zambia’s constitutional rule system, good governance, national unity and democracy. Hence, we loudly call urgent reforms in terms of top personnel or an immediate change in their approach.

It is disheartening to witness the treatment of opposition Members of Parliament, who have been silenced, interrupted, chased out of the house, and unjustly suspended for unreasonable periods. Within two weeks, three honorable parliamentarians, Hon Brian MUNDUBILE, Hon Emmanuel Jay BANDA, and Hon Jean CHISENGA, all hailing from the Eastern and Northern blocs have been served with 30-day unfair suspensions purely for political reasons. This pattern of unfair and unjust treatment towards opposition members, particularly those from the Eastern and Northern regions is utterly unacceptable and a threat to national unity, democracy and human rights.

We also want to remind the Speaker and her Deputies that their partisan stance, especially their biased behavior towards opposition members, sets a dangerous precedent for the integrity of Parliament. We regret to confirm that, in our eyes, it is clear that the principles of neutrality and impartiality, which should guide their actions, seem to have completely vanished into partisan politics. As we speak, the Speaker and her Deputies must know that many Zambians now believe that they have reduced our respected house to a ruling party legislative committee. This must stop immediately!

In like manner, KUM’MAWA Development Coalition, also known as UMODZI KUM’MAWA, strongly condemns the biased behavior exhibited by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Graphel Musamba and his officers recently. As a public officer responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all citizens without political bias, his selective justice is now becoming both unacceptable and unbearable.

We highlight specific instances where constitutional meetings, such as those held by Ndola and Kitwe City councils, have been marred by disruptions caused by the Inspector General’s officers. It is evident that these disruptions were fueled by the Ruling UPND through the inspector General of Police based on the desire to prevent candidates affiliated with the Patriotic Front (PF) from winning positions as Deputy Mayors. This flagrant disregard for the law is a clear case of breaking regulations with impunity.

Moreover, we raise concerns over the reluctance of police officers in arresting or charging members of the United Party for National Development (UPND), even when evidence of wrongdoing is present. One such instance is when renowned musician Bflow was attacked by known UPND cadres. Similar incidents occurred when Beene Hachoombwa, a UPND member was assaulted in Kanyama. Therefore, we urge the Inspector General to address this bias and implement fair enforcement of the law as his actions now undermine national unity, peace, human rights and democracy.

UMODZI KUM’MAWA warns Mr. Graphel Musamba that he must urgently rectify this behavior. Failure to cleanse himself of partisan tendencies will undoubtedly result in the diminishing credibility of his position as Inspector General of Police and the integrity of the police service in Zambia. It is crucial that he upholds his duty to serve all citizens impartially and protect their constitutional rights and freedoms.

Lastly, we want to emphasize that Democracy in our nation now hangs by a thread of the partisan and politically biased behaviors of the Speaker and her two deputies. As KDC, we strongly feel it is imperative that the Speaker of the National Assembly and her Deputies as well as the Police IG and his officers mend their ways before irreparable damage is done. The time for change is now, and UMODZI KUM’MAWA will be at the forefront of this fight to uphold the Zambian principles of democracy, fairness, constitutionalism, national unity and equality for all citizens.

Umodzi Kum’mawa Development Coalition (KDC) aims to strategically advance development programs for the people of Eastern Province in the broader context for the modernization and development of Zambia by advocating and defending for their interests and rights in all sectors. The coalition recognizes that the region has abundant natural resources and the local people must always be engaged and prioritized to discover and actualize their full developmental potential just like other Zambians elsewhere.

LUNGU SHOULD LEARN FROM RB. . . Instead of agitating an uprising against HH

LUNGU SHOULD LEARN FROM RB

. . . Instead of agitating an uprising against HH

By KENNEDY LIMWANYA

On March 11, 2024, the Zambian people commemorated two years since the passing on of Zambia’s fourth president Rupiah Banda who presided over the country’s affairs from November 1 2008 to September 23, 2011.

Looking back at how the late former president conducted himself after losing the September 2011 presidential election to Mr Michael Sata of the Patriotic Front (PF), I often wonder whether it was because he had a good team around him in the Office of the Fourth President or he was simply a diplomat.

Working with Mr Banda in the office of the Fourth President, we tried the best we could to ensure that we preserved his public image.

That side, Mr Banda had others outside our office who could offer timely advice to him and this was one of the reasons we tried to concentrate more on international politics, election observation missions in particular.

Although losing the 2011 presidential election to Mr Sata was not a good thing at all to him, he had accepted the people’s choice and, thereafter, ensured that he did not criticise his successor openly.

Just from Mr Banda’s concession speech on Friday, September 23, 2011, one could tell that he was a leader who meant well for the person who had defeated him.

The following words particularly stand out:
I urge you all now to rally behind your new president. Yes, we may have different ideas but we both want the same thing – a better Zambia.

We should all want Zambia to flourish. So, I congratulate Michael Sata on his victory. I have no ill feeling in my heart, there is no malice in my words. I wish him well in his years as president.
But now it is time for me to step aside. Now is the time for a new leader.

About 18 months later, Mr Banda would be invited by the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa to be the keynote speaker at an international conference on presidential run-off elections at the Kenyatta University School of Law in Nairobi on 14 January 2013.

Among the things he spoke about was on why he had accepted defeat to Mr Sata instead of disputing the election results.

“I felt a bigger responsibility to my country to uphold Zambia’s record of peace, stability and democracy. It was more important to me to preserve peace and avoid unrest in my country,” Mr Banda said.

A month earlier, the Millennium Excellence Foundation had honoured Mr Banda with the 2012 Lifetime Africa Achievement award, a recognition of individuals who had selflessly devoted themselves to bringing about change in the lives of Africans within a given decade.

At that event held at Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi, Kenyan vice-president Kalonzo Musyoka had the following words to say about Mr Banda regarding the way he had handled his presidential defeat in 2011:

“As Africans, we are proud of you President Banda. You were commander-in chief in your country and you could have easily disputed the results of the elections. I wish many African leaders could listen to you and realise that even after losing elections, you can be great.”

From Mr Banda’s concession speech, there is something for former president Edgar Lungu to learn from.

The words “I urge you all now to rally behind your new president” are what is expected from Mr Lungu instead of agitating an unconstitutional uprising against a legally elected government led by President Hakainde Hichilema who has a five-year mandate ending in August 2026.

The words “I wish him [Sata] well in his years as president” are what Mr Lungu should be telling the Zambian people instead of wishing President Hichilema a forced hand-over of power to whoever the former president is imagining.

The words “it was more important to me to preserve peace and avoid unrest in my country” should ring in Mr Lungu’s ears instead of looking forward to unrest.

Former Kenyan vice-president Musyoka’s words- “even after losing elections, you can be great”- should remind Mr Lungu about doing something that could distinguish him as a former president instead of dancing to the tune of his hangers-on.

Mr Lungu must realise that the immunity against criminal prosecution that he enjoys only covers offences that he may have committed during his time as president.
Breaking the law now would end up in an arrest and criminal prosecution which could lead to imprisonment.

Those who have been cheering as he makes irresponsible statements would not be there to serve a jail term with him.

As a former president, Mr Lungu is not an ordinary person and commands a sizeable following among Zambian citizens.
He must, therefore, be very careful with statements that are evidently meant at inciting an insurrection against a democratically-elected government.

If there are any people anywhere who genuinely love Mr Lungu and not those whose brains are in their stomachs, they should advise him to be extremely careful with his statements.

Mr Lungu, with his record of having presided over a barbaric, brutal and ruthless regime, should be the last person to criticise a government that has irritatingly tolerated his rantings for far too long.

The author is a former deputy administrative assistant in the Office of the Fourth President and once served as chief analyst for press and public relations at State House under President Rupiah Banda’s administration.

UKA GOES BEGGING FOR MONEY TO PAY “INSOLENT” MAMBILIMA MP

TO reward Mambilima PF member of parliament Jean Chisenga for misbehaving in Parliament when she put up an act of reckless bravado to label President Hakainde Hichilema as a liar, members of the UKA say they will foot her salary through begging.

On March 15, 2024, Chisenga screeched “ba President Mwacilamo ubufi” as President Hichilema exited Parliament after an address on the application of national values and principles.

Chisenga’s scream caught the attention of the Head of State who stopped and chatted with her briefly.

However, Muchinga constituency independent member of parliament Emmanuel Banda felt Chisenga should be punished for shouting at the President and lodged a complaint against her on March 18.

In an exculpatory letter to the National Assembly on March 25, Chisenga said she heckled at President Hichilema because he has not delivered on any of his campaign promises.

For her incivility, Chisenga was yesterday handed a 30-day suspension from Parliament by first deputy speaker Malungo Chisangano, who ordered her to exit the chamber by taking a walk of shame.

“Your conduct, which caused disorder during the address by the President, was unjustified and unbefitting of a member of parliament,” said Chisangano.

“I now order you, Ms Jean Chisenga MP, to leave the chamber through the main entrance of the chamber on 30 days suspension as resolved by the House from today, Thursday, 28th March 2024 to Friday, 26th April 2024.”

However, the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) has indicated that Chisenga will not feel the pain of losing out on a salary and sitting allowances because its members will give pittance to her as a reward for her ‘bravery’

According to UKA media chairperson Saboi Imboela, about K5, 000 has been fundraised towards Chisenga’s monthly parliamentary income.

She pleaded with supporters to donate any amount in New Heritage Party (NHP) president Chishala Kateka’s mobile money account.

While Imboela was making an announcement to seek alms, Chisenga went to pay homage to her master, Edgar Lungu, who hyped her for being “the talk of town” for her malfeasance.

Former Narep President Stephen Nyirenda Divorces Wife Lesa Kasoma

FORMER NAREP PRESIDENT DIVORCES WIFE

THE Lusaka High Court has dissolved former National Restoration Party president Stephen Nyirenda’s marriage with his wife Komboni Radio CEO Lesa Kasoma.

The court granted the divorce plea because the union has irretrievably broken down and the couple, which has a nine year old child together, can nolonger live together.

High Court documents indicate that the couple has been granted a decree nisi, which consolidates a divorce.

During submissions in court, Ms Kasoma consented to the divorce petition filed but her husband, who is Munthu party president, and admitted that the union has had a strained relationship.

“The petitioner and I are currently living with four children of the family. The 9 year old is shared by the applicant(Mr Nyirenda) and myself”.

Ms Kasoma submitted that the petitioner [Mr Nyirenda] has petitioned for dissolution of marriage which is understood considering the strained relationship we have had for years,”

The Komboni Radio director added that however has gone further to start asking her and her children to leave their jointly owned house.

Ms Kasoma added that at some point, Mr Nyirenda locked all her belongings and those their nine year-old child.

“He has asked my 16 year-old and 18year-old children to pack their belongings and leave.

“He also managed to chase my 16 year old son from the house while I was out of town on business over the weekend,” Ms Kasoma submitted.

She further submitted that the politician and businessman is also verbally abusive and uses hurtful words when chasing her.

Ms Kasoma further complains that the man has been belittling her in the presence of the children and “he calls me an evil shameless, useless drunk in front of the children”.

“The chasing and abusive language has caused a lot of instability in the home and alot of fear in the children that in the beginning we would lock ourselves up in the children’s bedrooms”.

She also summits that Mr Nyirenda also confiscated her valuables to the extent of getting the laptop she uses for work and school.

But Mr Nyirenda argued in response that he has never confiscated Ms Kasoma’s laptop or anything from the defendant, adding that if he were to confiscate anything from her, he would seize the entire Komboni Radio whose 80 percent of the investments came from him.

He argued that it doesn’t make reasonable sense to confiscate a laptop worth K5000 leaving a property like Komboni Radio worth hundreds of thousands.

In 2021, Mr Nyirenda sued the same woman after she allegedly fraudulently added her name on a title deed for his farm in Roma.

Yes, NHIMA belongs to MOH – Dr Chitalu Chilufya

0

Yes, NHIMA belongs to MOH – Dr Chitalu Chilufya

…That’s the original design

Lusaka—Friday, March 29th 2024

SMART EAGLES

Former Minister of Health in the Patriotic Front, PF, government, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya says the UPND government is on firm ground in its decision to move the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIMA, from the Ministry of Labor and Social Services back to the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Chilufya says the move constitutes the initial step needed to realign NHIMA to its original design and purpose as an innovative health care financing strategy and a tool that must lead towards the achievement of Universal Health Coverage, UHC.

“NHIMA is a robust, resilient, and sustainable tool to finance health services for all, leaving no one behind. It’s a vital pillar in any functional and well-structured national health system that targets UHC”, Dr. Chilufya says.

The former Health Minister and Member of Parliament for Mansa Central Constituency says NHIMA was structured to forge important significant synergies with the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency, ZAMMSA, and other departments and directorates with the capacity to audit and ensure quality public health and clinical care for citizens. For this reason, Dr. Chilufya says NHIMA must be domiciled under the Ministry of Health where it may be supported by health-related legislation such as the National Health Insurance, NHIS, Act.

Now that NHIMA is where it rightly belongs, Dr. Chilufya says the urgent imperative of the moment is to improve service delivery in all public health institutions to assure high quality health care services for all and as close as possible to where they may be. He says all medicines must be available in public health pharmacies and dispensaries so that members of the public are not referred out with prescriptions.

Furthermore, the Mansa lawmaker says laboratory and diagnostic services need urgent attention while keeping the relevant equipment in a functional state so that they may undertake a comprehensive scope of investigations in line with the level of accreditation of the various facilities. For this task to be accomplished successfully, Dr. Chilufya says laboratories must be restocked with reagents.

In addition, the former Minister says there is need to strengthen leadership and governance for Universal Healthcare at NHIMA. “We must continuously review the benefit package to align with our epidemiological profile, primary health care priorities and a deliberate bias towards public facilities”, he says.

He suggests the need to relaunch the registration drive using community structures under the Ministry of Health and its partner ministries. He also says there is need to ensure solvency of the fund by reviewing contributory rates and the claims being paid by NHIMA. This way, Dr. Chilufya says NHIMA will adequately supplement finance of public health institutions through claims while private facilities will complement access to health services.

“NHIMA must ease public health care financing to ensure health services reach the young, the old, non-employed, the employed, the retired and the old and vulnerable people. Anything deviant runs counter to the intention NHIMA was promulgated and flies in the face of the National Health Insurance Act No 2 of 2018”, Dr. Chilufya observes.

Since Zambia returned to multiparty democracy in 1991, successive governments have attempted to introduce health insurance in the country. However, it was in 2018, when Dr. Chilufya was Minister of Health when the NHIMA became a reality supported by an act of parliament.

In October of 2021, the UPND government moved NHIMA from the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Labor arguing that it was a social security issue. However, last year, the government rescinded the decision and began the process of returning the scheme back to the Ministry of Health where it originally sat.

WHY PRESIDENT HICHILEMA ADVOCATING FOR CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT

WHY PRESIDENT HICHILEMA ADVOCATING FOR CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT….

at this stage, we should hear more meetings to strategize how we are going to navigate through this climate change we are experiencing and come up with serious solutions to curb the high cost of living unlike advocating for constitution and statutes amendment.

Why is that only politicians are the ones with appetite to push an agenda for constitution and statutes amendment and reforms?

To be honest, we don’t have any lacunas in our constitution and statutes the so called lacunas just exist in the minds of our selfish leaders and not in our laws. In as far as human beings lives we will never have the best law, what we need is leadership with sober character who can take responsibility.

Before thinking about constitution and statute amendment leaders must amend and restructure their minds and perceptions in order to come to terms with reliaty. So far the constitution has got nothing to hinder us to think properly, and channel our resources into good use.

Because no matter how many times we amend our constitution and statutes, without our selfish leaders changing their mind and perceptions nothing will change in our country, even without the law leaders ought to do the right thing and prioritize the interests of the people.

Parliament where MPs should debate real issues, concerning the developmental agenda of this great republic has turned into a battle field, fighting personal battles.

Due to pettiness and childish behavior of the speakers also the voice President who happens to be the leader of business in the house. People did not vote for arrogance, pettiness and that childishness we are seeing in the house Noo.

It’s high time we sober up as a country to change the narrative of this country, and that can only happen if we have harmony in parliament to allow members of parliament to deliberate issues that will bring development being their sole responsibility.

In conclusion we need leaders with sober character and clear intent, to putting the interests of this country first doing the right thing even when on one is seeing them.

Meet Safro Fades, the barber who uses hammers, knives and made history winning a ‘Barber Grammy’

0

Martin “Safro Fades” Safari is not a barber who follows the conventional rules of the trade. Instead of using clippers or scissors to style his clients’ hair, he chooses to employ knives, shovels, and hammers.

Passersby are captivated by his unique technique, often pausing to watch as Safari skillfully wields his tools. Despite the unconventional approach, Safari’s clients remain composed, displaying unwavering trust as he maneuvers potentially hazardous objects like shovels and hammers around them.

Safari’s unconventional barbering style has earned him both recognition and a means of livelihood. With each shaving session, his clients emerge looking impeccably groomed and smart. He was recently crowned the Best Content Creator at the 2023 Barber Grammy Awards, becoming the first winner from Africa to get the award, The New Times reported.

“I did not attend the (Grammy) awards ceremony because I did not think I would win,” he told TRT Afrika.

“I had been nominated alongside more famous and widely traveled barbers. My win, therefore, came as a surprise,” he added.

The 24-year-old is a Rwandese national, who relocated to Nairobi in late 2023. “My relocation to Nairobi four months ago was strategic. I felt the city would boost my profile as an unorthodox barber,” Safari said, adding that his move “has paid off.”

His most popular video amassed an impressive 95 million views on his Instagram page (@safro_fades), which boasts over 230,000 followers.

Safari made a bold decision to abandon his studies in business administration at a Rwandan university to pursue his true passion for hair grooming. His journey gained momentum in December 2022 when he posted a viral video showcasing his theatrical shaving techniques, which involved using a hammer and chisel on a client.

This video catapulted Safari’s Instagram following from 2,000 to an impressive 100,000 in less than three weeks.

“I wanted to stand out as a barber,” he said, revealing that he charges between $45 and $60 per haircut.

In 2023, he had the honor of serving as a celebrity judge at a barbers’ competition in Cameroon. Reflecting on his unconventional methods, Safari recounted how it is challenging to earn clients’ trust in his craft, particularly due to the unique tools he employs.

To overcome skepticism, he sometimes offers free shaves and treats skeptical clients to lunch as an incentive. Looking ahead, Safari aspires to organize an international barbers’ expo that will showcase his exceptional skills to a global audience.

“I believe expos would offer publicity avenues for talented barbers to expand their markets,” he said.

He also aims to establish training workshops for individuals eager to learn his distinctive haircutting techniques.

PARLIAMENT IN ERROR: CHISENGA’S SUSPENSION CAN’T BE JUSTIFIED- Fred M’membe

PARLIAMENT IN ERROR: CHISENGA’S SUSPENSION CAN’T BE JUSTIFIED

The suspension of Mambilima PF Member of Parliament Jean Chisenga from Parliament for 30 days is drastic, biased, unjustified and exposes the presiding officers’ deliberate intent to undermine the principle of separation of powers by misusing the rules of the House to bully non-ruling party legislators.

This week, first deputy Speaker Attractor Chisangano suspended Chisenga from attending any parliamentary proceedings for 30 days. This was after Muchinga Member of Parliament Emmanuel Banda had raised a complaint against Chisenga accusing her of placing the House into disrepute and disrespecting Mr Hakainde Hichilema.

On March 15, 2024 after Mr Hichilema’s national address, Chisenga was heard shouting at Mr Hichilema as he walked out of the House: “Ba kateka ubufi bwachilamo [Mr President, the lies are too much]”. This prompted Mr Hichilema to walk back and speak to Chisenga briefly. In her exculpatory letter, Chisenga denied the accusations, stating that the alleged misconduct happened after Mr Hichilema had addressed the House.

But in her ruling, Chisangano insisted that the President’s address was an auspicious occasion that required members to be dignified and respectful.

“I find that the conduct of the member did not only show disrespect to the President but also demeaned the decorum of the House. The behaviour was unjustified and unbefitting of the Member of Parliament. This is a House of honour, decorum, and dignity. I will not tolerate gross misconduct and indiscipline,” she said.

According to Chisangano, Chisenga was unjustified and disrespectful in calling out Mr Hichilema over his lies and dishonest conduct. We wonder how else Chisangano expected Chisenga to define Mr Hichilema’s conduct, which is now a widely known fact – every Zambian knows that Mr Hichilema is a liar. He lies effortlessly and unapologetically. Again, Chisangano speaks about Parliament being a “House of honour, decorum and dignity” and that she “will not tolerate gross misconduct and indiscipline”. What honour? Lies, injustice, bias!

The biggest culprit in desecrating these virtues emphasised by Chisangano is Mr Hichilema himself, whose lies, deceit, and fabrications are unrestrained irrespective of the audience and place, including Parliament. It is Mr Hichilema whose conduct is unjustified and unbefitting. It is Mr Hichilema who dishonours the decorum and dignity of the House through his continuous lies and deceit.

Chisenga tapali efyo alufyenye. She was merely relating Mr Hichilema to what he actually is. Chisenga was exercising her right to freedom of speech in the National Assembly. She posed no threat to Mr Hichilema’s security, and there was no disruption to the proceedings caused in any way. Everything occurred after Mr Hichilema had already completed his national address.

Therefore, Chisenga’s suspension is a highly drastic measure and has no rational basis whatsoever. This suspension and many other similar infringements on the rights and freedoms of non UPND legislators we have seen so far, are unfortunately, signaling that these decisions are motivated by political considerations to shut critical voices in Parliament and ultimately shield the Executive from legitimate criticism.

In this regard, the Speaker and her subordinate presiding officers have shown beyond any reasonable doubt that they’re resolved to undermine the principle of separation of powers by misusing the rules of the House to silence, intimidate and victimise non UPND parliamentarians. This is undemocratic, unacceptable, and must be stopped.

The UPND in opposition were never saints themselves. But they were tolerated. They were understood and only disciplined in extreme circumstances. What has changed now? What is so special about Mr Hichilema and the UPND? Let the right to freedom of speech and tolerance reign supreme in Parliament. Our Parliament must symbolise the culture of democracy without any hindrance.

We call upon the Speaker to ensure that our parliamentary democracy is nurtured and strengthened by guaranteeing an impartial, dignified, orderly, and transparent running of parliamentary business. We know this is not too much to ask for. It can and should be done.

WITNESS TELLS COURT BOWMAN LUSAMBO NEVER ATTACKED OBED KASONGO, IMPLICATES PS AKAFUMBA

0

WITNESS TELLS COURT BOWMAN LUSAMBO NEVER ATTACKED OBED KASONGO, IMPLICATES PS AKAFUMBA.

Two witnesses have testified in the Luanshya Magistrates Court that former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo was not anywhere near the scene of the alleged assault on late NDC official Obed Kasongo and other NDC members in 2019.

And the Court heard yesterday how Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Joseph Akafumba enticed some NDC officials to fabricate evidence against Mr. Lusambo in exchange for cash, jobs and contracts.

The two witnesses were testifying before Luanshya Resident Magistrate Penstone Chiluba in the case in which Mr. Lusambo is facing two counts of unlawful wounding and assault on two NDC members.

This is in a matter in which Mr. Lusambo is accused of assaulting one Mary Musonda and wounded Mathews Musukwa both of Mpatamato Township in separate incidents, during the April, 11th, 2019, Roan Parliamentary by-election.

Vincent Mwanza aged 39, a businessman of Kasama and a member of the National Democratic Congress NDC told the Court that Mr. Lusambo was not part of the suspected PF cadres that attacked the NDC campaign team ahead of the by election.

Another witness, Laison Phiri, 44 of Lusaka’s Kabwata Constituency who is also Information and Publicity Secretary for NDC Youth Wing in Lusaka District said he only met Mr. Lusambo at Mpatamatu Police Post when he instructed the police to take all those injured in the said fracas to Roan General Hospital immediately.

Mr Mwansa who was NDC Lusaka District Youth Chairman at the time testified that he had gone to Luanshya to beef up campaigns for the bye election and their campaign base was set up at Mr. Chishimba Kambwili’s residence in Luanshya.

“We started our door to door campaigns and on 10th April around 20 Hrs, I had moved out of camp and I was called by the late Obed Kasongo to take Polling Agents to the Polling Stations around 20 to 21 Hrs,” Mr. Phiri testified.

He added, “We were 10 of us in the car, a Ford Wildtrack belonging to Mr Kasongo and driven by Ganston Mwila and we also carried some food for our campaign teams. On our way back around 04 Hours, we were ambushed by people we later identified as PF cadres who started asking us where we are coming from and started searching the vehicle and they soon started beating myself and the other NDC cadres.”

“And the late Obed came out of the car to talk to them and we saw him being beaten and he was brought in front of the car and they started beating him using timber plunks. They also searched me and started beating me and they took me to where the others were. I managed to run away and hid in some flowers but I was watching what was happening.”

The witness further testified that the beating lasted around 15-20 minutes all the while the NDC cadres were pleading to be spared.

When asked if Mr. Lusambo was on the scene during the attack, Mr Phiri insisted that he did not see anyone who looked like Mr. Lusambo anywhere near the scene of the occurrence.

And when asked, Laison Phiri reiterated that the said PF cadres who attacked them did not use any Machetes or knives in the attack of him and his NDC peers, instead they used short cut planks.

“What surprised them and still surprises me now is that someone like Hon Lusambo who wasn’t at the scene was being linked to the crime and accused of being the perpetrator,” Mr Mwansa stated.

Mr Mwansa testified that one of the Complainants, a Mr Musukwa called him in 2022 offering him a job and cash if he agreed to incriminate Mr. Lusambo

“Mr. Musukwa called me several times putting pressure on me to act as state witness to ensure Mr. Lusambo is hailed but I refused.”

“They told me they will give me money and since I have some education, they will give me a job if I see to it that Bowman (Mr. Lusambo) is jailed but I refused because I don’t think it is fair.”

When pressed further, the witness emphatically said the instructions were coming from Mr. Akafumba.

“I refused and said why now and why didn’t you call all of us to come and discuss the issue when it started? He then called my friend Vincent who told him the same issue who also brought the issue to me and I again refused because it was going to be unfair,

He said ,”Pressure continued and I had to change my phone and even changed the place of residence.

And Mr Phiri recollected that the first encounter with Mr. Lusambo was at Mpatamatu Police Post when he came to check on his cadres.

“Mr. Lusambo immediately instructed that all those injured including NDC cadres be taken to the Hospital.”

The matter has since been adjourned after it emerged that a small black bag, which is a key material evidence was not before Court.

It Is Difficult For Me To Wake Up And Attack A Leader Who Is Trying To Improve The Welfare Of Every Citizen Simply Because I’m An Activist- Sikaile Sikaile

0

IT IS DIFFICULT FOR ME TO WAKE UP AND ATTACK A LEADER WHO IS TRYING TO IMPROVE THE WELFARE OF EVERY CITIZEN SIMPLY BECAUSE I’M AN ACTIVIST

I fought ECL’s administration because it was killing innocent citizens with its thugs on daily and former President was ok with it. The only time you will hear him talk unless a PF member is a victim of political violence. We tried several times to remind him about his duty to protect every citizen but nothing was taken serious. For that reason, I disliked ECL’s type of leadership because he showed his level of incompetence and nothing personal at all. He is not a leader that’s why he behaved like that turning our nation into a state controlled by thugs and oppressing citizens.

Even if we were to stand in a court of law, I would still explain why I believe President Lungu was behind and content with the violence. You want me take opposition leaders serious like UKA driven by the very people who were brutalizing citizens few months ago. I’m normal please!

Now you same PF, want me to fight HH, who has never ordered his cadres to kill citizens? You want me to fight him for promoting unity in the country, for protecting our security men and women from being beaten by PF thugs, for ensuring equitable distribution of CDF to all Zambians? Let us be fair and I’m wondering that this is when you are seeing that I stood up for citizens yet your administration was always on my neck. Being an activist or opposition doesn’t mean that you have to oppose the government on everything it does no. Please do your research proper. I critically analyze issues and I think there is sanity in Zambia today. We have transition from a state under thugs to a state ruled by statesmen.

I use my education wisely and for developmental purposes. I don’t think with my stomach, but with my head. When our leaders do sensible things, let us support them so that tomorrow they can be encouraged to do even better.

To those calling me names, you are at liberty. If you think I have lost track in my activism, you too can embark on that mission and make a difference. In fact, this is the best time because you are guaranteed peace and safety. Ask my elder brother Sean Tembo how he was almost killed by PF thugs during a peaceful demonstration.

Under the UPND government, we see people protesting, but there’s no such thing as being brutalized by party cadres. Please, it is your constitutional right to speak up if you feel that the current government is not performing well. Some of us, who understand development, can already see significant progress.

My appeal to those of you affected by my poor activism under the UPND government is that, be a responsible citizen, be an activist, and take over from where some of us have left off. If you say we have lost track because we don’t see anything wrong that warrants criticizing the president, then understand that some of us have been voicing out on many national issues. So, I don’t understand exactly what you, my dear PF brothers and sisters, want me to do.

HICHILEMA, NALUMANGO, MUSOKOTWANE,A RARE COMBINATION……FULL OF TRUSTWORTHINESS

Authored By Mupishi Jones

At least today we can all agree that since Dr Kaunda days,we now have a leadership on top that we can go to sleep leaving keys to state coffers without worries at all.Even those bitter opposition souls today are only talking about failure to realise campaign promises and none is talking about President Hakainde Hichilema,VEEP Mutale Nalumango or Situmbeko Musokotwane cutting deals to steal state funds for their own personal benefits…. zero!

When you listen to any of these top three leaders speak, those emotional citizens even shade their tears because of the passion with which these leaders have for their citizens, and I mean all of their citizens.

There’s no speech that President Hakainde Hichilema has made here at home or abroad without reference to the Zambian people. There’s no single task President Hakainde Hichilema has undertaken without penning it down to the Zambian people.

I remember one day Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane responding to a question from one of the Zambian journalist on him involving himself in embezzling public resources,he responded with a question that ” Do you think at my age I can come back into government just to come and steal?”

He went further to explain that even stealing should be for a reason, “what reason do I have?” Dr Situmbeko explained that all his children were independent adults doing very well, he’s got a house he built many years ago, he’s driven good cars during his youthful days, his traversed this world to a point where he no longer gets excited about jumping on a plane.

Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane concluded by saying he’s back into government to build and leave behind a legacy for his children.A legacy that would be making his children walk with heads high knowing that their father did something valuable for this country! That was the only reason he came back into government, to build a legacy of trustworthiness for posterity!

This goes to President Hakainde Hichilema, who can raise an accusing finger today that President Hakainde Hichilema is stealing public resources? Who can raise an accusing finger today and point at VIP Nalumango?

That’s the trustworthiness of the trio that I’m talking about. It is incomparable to any political party hierarchy on the Zambian political scene today!

This is what the Zambian people desire.Even if the price of mealie meal and petrol jumps up to a thousand kwacha per unit,as long as these top leaders remain trustworthy, they’ll still be retained!

It is this same trustworthiness which the Zambian people have in these leaders which the international community have equally seen in these leaders. You can see it in their eyes,in their body language. You can feel it whenever you interact with any member of their family.
It is this trustworthiness which unlocked Mopani and KCM mines today. It is this trustworthiness that have made it possible for them to tar a dual carriageway road all the way from Lusaka up to Ndola and Masangano Luanshya roads without the Zambian government spending a ngwee on it! It is this trustworthiness that have brought a diverse of state creditors on the drawing board to renegotiate the “PF’s” debt left for children to sort, to agree on mutual benefit terms. This is the legacy of “Ubuntu”.This is the legacy that sets Zambia aside that make me thank my stars I belong to it.During the last ten years, Zambia drifted away from this Ubuntu legacy to survival of the fittest legacy.
I’m I talking to UKWA,EFF and SP there?
I submit

Ex-attorney for Trump should lose state law licence for trying to influence elections – Judge says

0

A judge thinks that lawyer John Eastman should not be allowed to practice law in California because he tried to help Donald Trump stay president after the 2020 election.

Eastman, who used to be a dean at a law school, is in trouble with the state bar court. He is accused of making a plan to get then-Vice President Mike Pence to stop President Joe Biden from being certified as the winner.

California Judge Yvette Roland’s recommendation was given on Wednesday. Now it will go to the California Supreme Court for a final decision on whether he should lose his license to practice law. Eastman can ask the highest court to change its decision.

Eastman’s lawyer, Randall A. Miller said in an email that he and his client were thinking about the decision and will have more to say about it later.

The judge said Eastman is responsible for 10 out of 11 of the things he was accused of. This includes lying to courts, being dishonest, saying untrue things, and working with Trump to stop the transfer of power.

“Eastman worked with President Trump to stop the government from doing its job. They planned to disrupt the counting of votes on January 6, 2021,” Roland wrote in her long decision.

The California State Bar is a group that makes sure lawyers follow the rules. It is the only one in the US that punishes lawyers for breaking the rules.

Eastman is being charged with a crime in Georgia. He is accused of conspiring with Trump and 18 other people to overturn the Republican’s loss in the state. Eastman said he didn’t do anything wrong and was just doing his job as Trump’s lawyer when he questioned the 2020 election results. He said the case is trying to punish lawyers for doing their best to help their clients.

He is involved in another case about interfering in the 2020 election, but he has not been charged with a crime in that case.

The State Bar of California says that Eastman broke the state’s business and professions code by making false and misleading statements. They say he did this to try to overturn the results of the presidential election, which is a serious attack on our democracy.

Roland said that because of what Eastman did and weighing the bad and good things, the court thinks Eastman should lose his license to practice law.

Eastman was a trusted advisor to Trump before the January. January 6, 2021, a violent incident at the US Capitol. He wrote a note explaining a plan for Pence to not accept valid votes for Biden during the joint session of Congress on Jan. 6 to make sure Trump stays in the White House.

Lawyers want to take away Eastman’s license because they say he helped Trump by making up a false theory and lying about fraud in the election. They think he did this to try to change the election results.

Eastman’s lawyer said that Eastman did not plan to steal the election, but was thinking of ways to postpone counting the votes so that states could look into claims of voting problems. The courts, including the ones that Trump picked, did not agree with Trump’s claims of fraud.

The judge didn’t believe Eastman’s argument that he was just trying to help Trump.

“An attorney must work very hard to support their client,” Roland wrote. “But, Eastman’s wrong statements were lies and cannot be excused as passionate advocacy. ” Eastman did not tell the truth and broke the rules by lying to make his legal arguments seem stronger. Finally, the court says that doing things that are very wrong is not allowed, even if you are a lawyer trying to defend someone.

Roland agreed with Eastman’s lawyer on one of the 11 charges. The judge didn’t like Eastman’s speech at a rally in Washington on Jan. 6 was not part of the attack on the Capitol that happened later.

Eastman will not be allowed to work as a lawyer in California for the next three days while the Supreme Court looks at his case. This is because of the judge’s order.

The group that complained about Eastman’s behavior early on, the States United Democracy Center, was happy about the judge’s decision.

“This win is very important in making sure those who tried to change the outcome of the 2020 election are held responsible. ” After hearing from almost twenty witnesses during a 35-day trial, the court decided that John Eastman did not follow his ethical responsibilities to support the constitution,” said Christine P. Sun is an important leader in a nonprofit organization. “This choice shows that everyone, including presidents and their lawyers, must follow the law. ”

According to its website, Eastman has been a member of the California Bar since 1997. He worked for a judge at the US Supreme Court and helped start a law firm connected to the Claremont Institute. In 2010, he tried to become California’s attorney general, but he came in second place in the Republican primary.

Eastman was in charge of the Chapman University law school in Southern California from 2007 to 2010 and was a teacher at the school until he retired in 2021. Over 160 faculty members signed a letter asking the university to do something about him.

Man City optimistic about De Bruyne’s fitness ahead of Arsenal clash

Man City are hopeful that Kevin De Bruyne will be ready for their important Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday, according to sources familiar with the situation.

De Bruyne sat out the FA Cup quarterfinal victory over Newcastle United due to a groin injury, which also sidelined him for Belgium’s recent friendlies against Republic of Ireland and England.

However, there’s increasing optimism that the midfielder could be back in contention for the Arsenal game, as he successfully completed a training session with the Under-23s on Tuesday.

Jack Grealish, who was absent from the England squad due to ongoing recovery from a muscle injury, has also been training at the City Football Academy this week.

Medical staff will continue to monitor De Bruyne’s condition, but he is expected to participate in first-team training when it resumes on Thursday. Most of City’s international players are set to return to the club by Friday to prepare for the match against Arsenal.

De Bruyne’s potential return is a welcome development for manager Pep Guardiola, who is concerned about the fitness of Kyle Walker and John Stones.

Walker suffered a hamstring injury during England’s recent defeat to Brazil, while Stones was substituted early in the match against Belgium due to an adductor problem. Although Walker’s injury is not believed to be severe, he faces a race against time to prove his fitness before facing Arsenal.

Meanwhile, sources have informed ESPN that City are displeased with the scheduling of their FA Cup semifinal against Chelsea.

Initially, City anticipated the game to be played on Sunday, April 21, four days after their Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Real Madrid.

However, they have since been informed that the fixture will be held at Wembley on the Saturday, leaving Guardiola and his squad with only three days to recover from the clash with Real Madrid.

Neither Manchester United nor Coventry, the teams in the other semifinal, are involved in European competitions and had initially expected to play on Saturday.

Additionally, City are scheduled to face Brighton at the Amex on April 25 before traveling to Nottingham Forest three days later on April 28.

Sam Bankman-Fried is jailed for 25 years over £6,350,000,000 fraud

Disgraced crypto king, Sam Bankman-Fried, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing $8 billion from customers of the now-bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange he founded.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan handed down the sentence on Thursday, March 28, at a Manhattan court hearing after rejecting Bankman-Fried’s claim that FTX customers did not actually lose money and accusing him of lying during his trial testimony.

“He knew it was wrong,” Kaplan said of Bankman-Fried before handing down the sentence. “He knew it was criminal. He regrets that he made a very bad bet about the likelihood of getting caught. But he is not going to admit a thing, as is his right.”

In addition to the prison sentence, Kaplan also ordered a forfeiture of $11.2 billion. However, he said there would be no restitution because it would be “impractical” in this case with so many victims.

At his sentencing, Bankman-Fried acknowledged during 20 minutes of remarks to the judge that FTX customers had suffered and he offered an apology to his former FTX colleagues.

Addressing the judge, Bankman-Fried said, “Customers have been suffering… I didn’t at all mean to minimize that. I also think that’s something that was missing from what I’ve said over the course of this process, and I’m sorry for that.”

Referring to his FTX colleagues, Bankman-Fried told the judge, “They put a lot of themselves into it, and I threw that all away. It haunts me every day.”

A jury found Bankman-Fried, 32, guilty on Nov. 2 on seven fraud and conspiracy counts stemming from FTX’s 2022 collapse in what prosecutors have called one of the biggest financial frauds in U.S. history.

Bankman-Fried’s cryptocurrency exchange company, FTX, went bust in 2022 with $8billion of customer funds missing. At its peak FTX was valued at $32billion (£26billion), and Bankman-Fried became a business celebrity, promoting the firm and enticing millions of customers to invest. Last November, a jury found Bankman-Fried had stolen billions of customer money ahead of FTX’s collapse in order to buy property, and make political donations and other investments.

Sam Bankman-Fried was born in 1992 in California to Barbara Fried and Joseph Bankman, both professors at Stanford Law School. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in physics and a minor in mathematics.

He started his finance career in 2013 as an intern at Jane Street Capital, a proprietary trading firm, trading international Exchange Traded Funds (EFTs). In September 2017 he moved to Berkeley, California, where he worked briefly at the Centre for Effective Altruism. By November, he co-founded the quantitative trading firm Alameda Research alongside Tara Hedley, after receiving funding from billionaire computer programmer Jaan Tallinn and investor Luke Ding.

In January 2018 he organised an arbitrage trade, taking advantage of the higher price of bitcoin in Japan compared to the US. He moved to Hong Kong after attending a cryptocurrency conference in Macau, and by April 2019 he had founded FTX.

In 2021 Bankman-Fried was included on the 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30 list. However, after his conviction he was included in the 2023 Forbes Hall of Shame list, featuring 10 picks the publication wished it could take back.

UEFA open to proposals from coaches from in 23 man squad to 26 in Euro 2024

0

Organizer of the European Championship, UEFA, announced on Thursday its willingness to consider expanding national team squads from 23 to 26 players for the upcoming tournament in Germany.

The suggestion for larger squads came from Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman, who argued that the prevalence of injuries in modern football justified the need for more players.

During Euro 2020, which was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic, and the FIFA World Cup in 2022, UEFA permitted teams to have 26-man squads to accommodate health protocols and potential player isolations.

However, UEFA had previously settled on 23-player squads for Euro 2024.

In preparation for the tournament, UEFA plans to convene coaches and officials from all 24 participating teams in Düsseldorf, Germany, in two weeks’ time.

“A workshop with the participating teams will be held on April 8 and on that occasion UEFA will listen to the views of the coaches,” the European football body said. “Any idea in this respect will then be considered and assessed.”

Koeman wants his national federation to ask UEFA for an increase and noted this week “you have to deal more with injuries these days.”

“It is about the load carrying ability of the players,” Koeman said on Tuesday after his team’s 2-1 loss to Germany, suggesting host team coach Julian Nagelsmann agreed.

England coach Gareth Southgate said there had been a “little bit of talk amongst some of the coaches” to ask for 26.

Southgate said he did not plan to pressure UEFA for an increase, though acknowledged the extra numbers would lessen the risk of selecting preferred players who carried injuries.

“We’ve been able to give people time,” said Southgate, who is taking England to his fourth major tournament as the coach, “but with 23 that’s definitely more difficult.”

The extent of interest among the 24 coaches for a larger squad, potentially accommodating more players who may not see significant game time, remains uncertain.

Euro 2024 is scheduled to take place from June 14 to July 14 across 10 cities in Germany.

Diddy no longer owner of Revolt TV as new mystery owner takes over

0

Almost a decade ago, Sean “P Diddy” Combs launched a cable music channel called Revolt TV. At the time, he touted it as the “first channel of the social media age.” Also, he noted that the channel will fill the gap left by MTV after it stopped playing music videos.

“I would say this journey started me for seven years ago when MTV stopped playing music and that had huge impact on the future of music,” he said, according to The Guardian. “The music started to become safe. We didn’t have the experience I had when I grew up, whether it be Led Zeppelin or Janice Joplin. There was no longer a platform for music artists to trust with their creativity.

“There was also no place that was covering music in the way that if you follow sports you go to ESPN, or like CNN with news, but with music you were just thrown into the abyss. We will cover music in a journalistic way, covering it in a way in that it has not been covered before, and we will celebrate creative and cinematography.”

Today, the musician-turned-entrepreneur is no longer in charge of Revolt TV. Diddy has reportedly sold all his shares in the company he founded with Andy Schuon in 2013.

Citing sources close to the musician, TMZ said he sold off all of his shares to an interested buyer for an undisclosed sum. Despite the sale, the platform added that the company will remain black-owned, thus upholding its original connection and dedication to furthering the culture.

“…we’re told the new boss wishes to remain anonymous for the time being. With that said, our sources say they share a deep passion for black culture … and they plan on publicly making a formal introduction in the coming weeks,” TMZ reported.

The sale of the company comes months after Diddy stepped down as the chairman of the network. His reported last order was being notified of the sale, which just went through this week.

Despite the sale, Revolt’s CEO, Detavio Samuels, and Chief Brand Officer, Deon Graham, will remain in their current positions and assist the owner. TMZ said there will not be any major changes to staffing or production for Revolt TV employees. But over time, the new owners would implement their own vision.

Zimbabwe’s ZANU PF Considers Parliamentary Election of President, Mirroring South African System

0

Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU PF, is reportedly contemplating a significant overhaul of the country’s presidential election mechanism, potentially shifting from direct public voting to a parliamentary system similar to South Africa’s. This proposed change aims to enhance the proportional representation model, allowing the National Assembly to elect the President.

Investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has disclosed that high-ranking officials within the ZANU PF-led government are actively discussing this pivot away from the first-past-the-post system. The move is seen as an attempt to address the party’s perceived vulnerabilities in presidential races, where its candidates have encountered stiff competition from opposition figures in the last six elections.

The adjustment would align Zimbabwe’s electoral process more closely with that of South Africa, where voters select a political party rather than individual candidates during general elections. This system tallies votes nationally to determine the distribution of seats in the National Assembly, from which the President is subsequently elected. The elected President resigns their seat in the National Assembly to assume the nation’s highest office.

According to Chin’ono, this potential shift is motivated by ZANU PF’s observation of its comparative advantage in parliamentary contests over its performance in presidential elections. Conversely, opposition parties have seen their presidential candidates garner more popularity than their parliamentary candidates, a trend the proposed system could invert.

Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has also mentioned additional constitutional changes under consideration, including transferring voter registration responsibilities from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to the Civil Registry Department. These proposals reportedly incorporate feedback from opposition legislators in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections, setting the stage for a dramatic transformation in Zimbabwe’s electoral architecture.

The contemplation of such a change reflects a strategic recalibration by ZANU PF, aimed at consolidating its grip on power amid shifting political currents. This approach mirrors modifications seen in other nations, like Togo, where similar constitutional amendments have been enacted to centralize electoral power within the parliamentary system.

As Zimbabwe navigates this potential electoral reform, the global community watches closely. The implications for democracy, political representation, and party dynamics within the country are profound, signaling a pivotal moment in Zimbabwe’s ongoing political evolution.

France to sue student who fraudulently accused principal of taking away headscarf

0

The French government is taking a high school student to court after she falsely said her old principal hurt her after he told her to take off her headscarf at school. The prime minister of the country talked about this on Wednesday.

The French Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, said the government will always support the officials who are facing challenges with religious influence in schools.

He said those things in an interview on French TV channel TF1.

Secularism in France has been a big issue, especially with the Muslim population, which is the largest in Europe. Last year, France said Muslim women can’t wear long robes called abayas, even though people said this is not fair.

The teacher at Maurice Ravel Lycée school in Paris asked a young woman to take off her headscarf because it’s against French law to wear religious symbols in state institutions.

The student said no and tried to scare the school principal by saying he physically hurt her while taking off her headscarf, according to Attal.

She said the teacher grabbed her shoulder, as reported by CNN affiliate BFMTV.

The student was over 18 years old when the incident happened on February 28, according to BFMTV.

Attal said her accusations were posted on social media, which caused people to threaten the school principal with death.

The education ministry said on Tuesday that they have arrested two people who they believe are responsible for making death threats.

The principal was supposed to retire in June. But because of the incident and security advice, the principal retired early. The student involved also left the school.

Paris prosecutors didn’t think the young woman’s complaint was true, so they didn’t take her to court. The government then decided to sue the girl for lying about the principal.

“We can’t ignore anything, and I will always pay attention to this question,” he said.

Two well-known murders of teachers have made people more scared about the threat of Islamist extremism in schools.

Last year, a teacher was killed and some other people were hurt in a knife attack in Arras, northern France. The person who did it was heard saying “Allahu Akbar. ” In 2020, Samuel Paty was killed by having his head cut off after showing some cartoons from Charlie Hebdo to his students in a class.

The country has made some rules about what Muslim people can wear, and it has made some people mad.

The French President Emmanuel Macron said before that “religious symbols shouldn’t be in French schools” under the country’s rule of “secularism. ” This means that religion should be separate from the government and public affairs.

France is taking action, not just in schools. In 2022, politicians supported a rule that says people can’t wear hijabs or other noticeable religious symbols during sports competitions. The right-wing Les Républicains party suggested a change to the rules because they think wearing a hijab during sports could be dangerous for the athletes.

Russia accuses Islamic State for allegedly carrying out attack in Moscow

0

Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on Wednesday that it was very difficult to believe that Islamic State could have been able to attack a concert hall in Moscow last Friday, killing at least 143 people.

Zakharova said again that Moscow believes Ukraine was responsible for the attack on the Crocus City Hall, even though they haven’t shown any proof. This was the worst attack Russia has had in 20 years.

The Russian government’s emergency department released a list of names showing that 143 people died in a mass shooting last Friday. Before, the official count said 139 people died.

The Islamic State said they caused the massacre, and US officials think it was their Afghanistan group, Islamic State Khorasan, based on their information. Ukraine keeps saying it didn’t do the attack.

Zakharova said the West blamed Islamic State to take the focus away from Ukraine and the Western governments that support Kyiv.

“They needed to make the Western countries trust them, so they used ISIS as a distraction. The media started spreading this right after the attack,” she said.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that the attack was done by Islamic militants. He also hinted that Ukraine may have benefited from the attack and might have been involved in it.

He said that someone in Ukraine had made a way for the gunmen to escape to Russia before they were caught on Friday night.

On Tuesday, the leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that the gunmen first tried to enter his country but then went to Ukraine instead when they saw that the borders of Belarus were closed.

The head of Russia’s FSB security agency said that he thinks Ukraine, the United States, and Britain were part of the attack in Moscow.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron replied on social media platform X, saying: “Russia’s claims about the West and Ukraine on the Crocus City Hall attack are complete nonsense. ”

The leader of Ukraine’s main intelligence department, Kyrylo Budanov, said at a conference in Kyiv that he thinks Russian officials knew about plans for a big attack since at least mid-February.

Budanov, who was mentioned in Ukrainian media, said that the authorities didn’t say anything about the attack because they either didn’t realize how big it was, or they wanted to blame Ukraine and fire some officials.

After the shooting, a US official said the US had told Russia recently that an attack might happen.

Many Pakistani flight attendants disappear after arriving in Canada

0

Usually, flight attendants from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) who come to Toronto stay in a hotel for the night, then meet up with their crew the next day and fly to their next destination.

However, more and more frequently, PIA flight attendants are not showing up, according to the airline. PIA says that at least eight flight attendants have gone missing in the past year and a half.

They left their jobs and are thought to have asked for protection in Canada, according to a spokesperson for the government airline.

More often happening

Abdullah Hafeez Khan said that at least eight flight attendants have disappeared after arriving at Pearson International Airport in Toronto. He said that these things have been happening for the past 10 years, but now they are happening more often.

“From around October 2022, more and more people have been seeking asylum,” Khan said in a video interview with CTVNews. ca from Karachi, Pakistan, where the airline is located.

None of the crew members who went missing in the past year and a half have returned. So they were allowed to stay in a new country for some reason, and that probably made other people want to do the same.

Khan said that the employees who were not there were let go right away and they lost their company perks.

Why did they run away.

Khan said he could only guess why the flight attendants ran away.

The Canadian government emphasized that Pakistan is a dangerous place to visit. They warned people about the high risk of terrorism, as well as civil unrest, sectarian violence, and kidnapping.

“The security situation is not stable and can change unexpectedly,” says the Canadian travel advisory. “Events usually happen because of extreme beliefs, differences between ethnic groups, conflicts between religious groups, and disagreements between nearby countries like Afghanistan. ”

Many people have been hurt or killed in bombings, shootings, and other terrorist attacks in many different places.

Khan thinks that the missing employees went to Canada to find a better life because he hasn’t heard from them.

“He said he thought they all got permission to live there because he didn’t think they were living there illegally. He also said they might have family in Canada who can help them. ”

‘PR crisis’

Khan said that PIA is having a “PR crisis” because flight attendants are disappearing, and this is bad for business because there aren’t enough crew members.

The airline is talking with Canadian and Pakistani authorities to find a way to prevent flight crew from trying to get asylum.

Erin Kerbel, who speaks for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, said they couldn’t talk about the missing PIA flight attendants because of privacy laws.

The CBSA spokesperson said they can’t confirm any information about PIA’s claim of discussions happening.

Maria Ladouceur said the Canada Border Services Agency won’t say anything about specific people or any talks with airline companies because it’s private information protected by the Privacy Act.

“Since the crew members went missing, Khan said the airline has done many things to stop that from happening again. ”

For example, the airline is only having crew members who have family in Pakistan or have worked for the airline for a long time on flights to Toronto.

The airline doesn’t want to send people who are single or don’t have family in Pakistan to Toronto, the man said.

Khan said he and the airline can’t reach the flight attendants anymore because they found out that the flight attendants often change their phone numbers after disappearing in Toronto.

Who went missing.

The PIA flight attendants who went missing in Canada are experienced professionals in their late 30s or 40s. Some of them have been working for the airline for as long as 20 years, according to Khan.

“He said they never showed any indication that they would look for something like that. ” “So, this is something that worries us because it’s unexpected when something happens with people who have been working with us for a long time. ”

In February, the crew members were waiting for the bus to take them from the hotel in Toronto to the airport. But one of the flight attendants didn’t come. Khan said this happened in a recent case.

The airline couldn’t get in touch with the flight attendant on her phone or hotel phone, so they asked the hotel to make sure she was alright.

“Khan said when the crew went to the place, she left her uniform behind with a note that said, ‘Thank you PIA’. He thought it was a real thank you for her 15 years of working with PIA, not a joke. ”

Khan said the missing crew members were good people with successful jobs in Pakistan.

Laws about letting people seek safety in a new country.

People can ask to be refugees in Canada when they arrive at the border or online if they are already in Canada.

Canadian immigration or border officials will decide if the person can have a hearing with the Immigration and Refugee Board. The government says everyone who makes a claim needs to have their health and security checked.

If you are allowed to ask for help in Canada as a refugee, you can get social support, go to school, get health care, find a place to stay in an emergency, and get a lawyer while waiting for the government to decide if you can stay in the country. Many people can get a work permit after a doctor’s appointment.

Lady who stole Biden’s daughter’s journal escapes prison after being threatened with jail

0

A woman who said she stole Ashley Biden’s diary and sold it to conservative activists might be arrested soon. She skipped her sentencing however federal judge said she could be arrested as early as Friday.

Aimee Harris was scheduled to be punished in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon. Her lawyers said to Judge Laura Swain that the person from Florida couldn’t come because they had childcare and other problems.

Harris’ punishment was delayed two times this year because of similar problems.

Harris joined the hearing by video, so Swain delayed the decision until April 9. The judge said she will get a warrant for Harris’ arrest on Friday afternoon if she doesn’t give more documents, including a financial paper, by noon that day.

“I don’t want to,” Swain said. “You and your children don’t have to worry about the United States Marshals finding you and taking you to New York. ”

An arrest warrant could mean Harris might go to jail, which she probably wouldn’t have done at her sentencing.

The lawyers wanted the judge to give Harris six months of staying at home and three years of being watched, but Harris wanted to just have probation.

Harris and another person from Florida, Robert Kurlander, admitted they were guilty on August. On January 25, 2022, they were caught planning to steal and transport Ashley Biden’s diary across state lines.

Court papers say Harris took the diary from a house in Delray Beach, Florida where Ashley Biden had stayed and left her diary and other stuff.

Harris asked Kurlander to help sell the diary, Ashley Biden’s family photos, and other things to a group called Project Veritas. They each got paid $20,000 for it.

The US Attorney’s office in Manhattan said that Harris talked to Kurlander because she wanted to hurt Joe Biden’s campaign for president in 2020.

“The specific political beliefs of Harris don’t matter in this case, but the way she promoted them was not in line with legal political activity,” prosecutors said.

Kurlander will find out his punishment on April 12.

Project Veritas stated that Harris and Kurlander said they got the diary legally.

The group didn’t share the story because they weren’t sure if the diary was real. They sent it to the police in Florida instead.

Project Veritas often shares secret videos in an attempt to expose what they believe is bad behavior by organizations that lean to the left. Many people say it uses tricky methods.

The group from Mamaroneck, New York, has always described its work as journalism.

Nottingham Forest coach banned and fined for using offensive words on referee after Liverpool defeat

Nottingham Forest manager Steven Reid has been penalized by the Football Association for verbally abusing referee Paul Tierney following their defeat to Liverpool.

Reid has been handed a two-match ban and fined £5,000 for his inappropriate conduct towards Tierney, which occurred after Darwin Nunez scored the winning goal deep into stoppage time at City Ground on March 2nd.

Additionally, Nottingham Forest has been fined £75,000 for failing to control their players and staff from behaving improperly after the final whistle.

The incident arose from a controversial decision by Tierney to award possession back to Liverpool via a drop-ball, despite Nottingham Forest having possession before play was halted due to a head injury to Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

Mark Clattenburg, a former Premier League referee and currently working as Forest’s referee analyst, criticised the decision and told BBC Radio 5: “If the referee stops the game, he has to give the ball back to the team in possession. That was Forest.”

Tierney mentioned about the incident in his match report and wrote: “Following the final whistle I was surrounded by members of Nottingham Forest’s substitutes and backroom staff on the field of play. One of those who approached me was Steven Reid, who was not listed on the teamsheet.

He asked me about a decision and I said to him that I would speak to him inside and not outside on the field of play. He then continued to question me and I repeated that I would speak to him inside. He then said, ‘It’s the same every week, you [expletive]’.”

After referee Tierney showed Reid a red card for his remarks, Reid admitted to using abusive language initially but denied using it further after being sent off.

However, Tierney and the assistant referees reported Reid’s continued swearing and confrontational behavior as they exited the field, leading to the confirmation of the charges against him.

Forest acknowledged that owner Evangelos Marinakis approached Tierney after the match but dismissed reports of any altercation requiring intervention.

This is not the first time Forest has faced penalties for misconduct towards match officials. Over the past 18 months, the club has been involved in similar incidents on three previous occasions, raising concerns about their disciplinary behavior. In conclusion, the regulatory commission warned Forest that future breaches of the rules may result in more severe consequences.

UKA TO FUNDRAISE MONEY FOR HON JEAN CHISENGA

28/03/2024

The United Kwacha Alliance, UKA, has resolved to fundraise money for Hon. Jean Chisenga, Member of Parliament for Mambilima Constituency who has been suspended today for calling President Hakainde Hichilema a liar.

As United Kwacha Alliance, UKA we believe that Hon. Chisenga was on firm ground to call President Hichilema a liar, because she was only expressing herself on behalf of many Zambians who hold the same view, that the President lied to them.

Among the many things Zambians feel lied to include;

1. Mealie meal at K50.
2. Fuel at K12
3. Affordable cost of living
4. Affordable electricity tariffs
5. 7 Bags of fertilizer each.
6. Constitutional amendments road map
7. Freedom of expression and association
8. No political violence
9. No political biased arrests
10. Corrupt free UPND Government
11. No cadres in markets and bus stations
12. Reduced Presidential foreign trips
13. Low cost of doing business
14. Return of Vedanta back to KCM
15. Removal of tax holidays for the mines
16. No political interference in the running of the courts and democratic institutions etc

UKA support and stands with the Mambilima lawmaker and urge the Speaker to conduct the house business without intimation. We further urge President Hichilema to apologise to the Zambian people on the many lies he told them when ascending to power.

UKA sadly notes that, Speaker Nelly Mutti, in 2 years, has presided over more suspensions than in the entire life of Parliament since 1964. Truth be told, when the President walks into Parliament, he becomes a Member of Parliament and not a stranger, to be called a dignitary.

Unfortunately, there is too much lack of understanding in the front bench and the management of the house. The Commonwealth Parliamentary procedures are being violated with impunity every day.

To demonstrate our support, UKA will spearhead the fundraising of Hon Chisenga’s monthly Parliament income during her suspension. We have already kick started the fundraising, K5,000 has already been raised.

We call on all UKA members, sympathisers, supporters and all Zambians that stand for justice and fairness to join this fundraising as a way to protect our growing democracy.

For your financial contributions kindly get in touch with the UKA secretariat on +260978773976 (Mobile Money Transactions).

May God bless our Nation and Happy Easter.

Assault On Democracy; Suspension Of Hon. Mundubile And Hon. chisenga For 30 Days- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

ASSAULT ON DEMOCRACY; SUSPENSION OF HON. MUNDUBILE AND HON.CHISENGA FOR 30 DAYS

…the Speaker by her action has perpetrated assault on Democracy joining her boss, President Hichilema in the schemes…

Lusaka-Thursday, 28th March 2024

It is shocking that the National Assembly, as presided over by the Speaker, Hon.Nellie Mutti and her two deputies; Hon.Attractor Malungo Chisangano and Hon. Moses Frank Moyo, has become a common place to slaughter freedom of expression, parliamentary privildge and Democracy.

The 30 day suspension of Mporokoso MP, Hon. Brian Mundubile and Mambilima MP, Hon. Jean Chisenga, for exercising the right to freely express themselves is an affront to our Democracy.
This action follows other recent punitive actions meted out and clearly aimed at members of the Opposition.

Freedom of speech entails that a Member of Parliament may state whatever he or she
thinks fit in debate, without fear of being sued or prosecuted in the course
of the proceedings of the House or indeed without receiving punishment from any of the House Committees.

It is now public knowledge that Hon. Nellie Mutti has become a clear danger to our Democracy as she has turned the House into a tyrannical fuss where MPs are repeatedly gagged or regularly punished and denied benefits by barring them,on prolonged periods, from the House.

The Speaker, as
guardian of the dignity and privileges of the House fails these duties when she refuses to be fair,to be impartial or to be objective.

The Speaker regularly abuses the authority she is vested with, by frequently punishing members of the Opposition and Independent MPs.

She also repeatedly refuses to act on complaints of misconduct and insults committed by MPs from the Ruling Party and laid by members of the Opposition.

She has allowed the House to descend into a place of disorder and circus.

However we are not surprised by her conduct as this as delibaretly intended by President Hakainde Hichilema.

President Hichilema chose a candidate, who is facing serious criminal charges that have never been exhausted.
This thereby weakens her in the discharge of her duties and in eyes of the public.

In our view and from the onset, Ms Mutti was not fit to preside over a serious institution of Democracy such as Parliament until the charges of criminal conduct were extinguished.

In our view, President Hichilema chose Mutti because of her very weaknesses, to manipulate and make her compliant to his dictatorial and tyrannical tendencies and goals, and to do his bidding in his quest to firmly control all arms of Government.

Zambians must remember that no one will defend their democracy other than themselves.

Zambians must reject the emerging dictatorship that is strangling democracy at a far faster rate than any previous government has done to it before.

WE MUST BE CAREFUL…we shouldn’t be looking at our leaders from a wako ni wako mentality – Chikoya

By Fanny Kalonda(The Mast)

COUNCIL of Churches in Zambia general secretary Emmanuel Chikoya says sentiments of people being cleasened from the public service are worrisome.

He says the country is at the risk of losing national unity.

Fr Chikoya told The Mast that leaders must be careful and promote a narrative that promotes and sustains unity in the country.

“We should be talking unity and emphasising the perception that people are being cleansed from the civil service it’s there, it was there in the past and those sentiments are worrisome. People will defend, will clarify, but the issue is where there is no fire, there will be no smoke. And so we need to ensure that we handle sensitive matters, you know, including the perennial issue of the Barotse agreemenent and all those things, we must be careful that we always seem to create and speak the narrative that promotes and sustains unity in Zambia,” he said. “So we are better off than other countries but if not careful we may degenerate into chaos, so unity is critical. We should not be looking at our leaders from a wako ni wako mentality or muntu wesu mentality but to see a Zambian who is competent, a Zambian who has capacity. Those are the critical criteria that we must consider when we put people in office and nothing else.”

Asked if there is unity in the country, Fr Chikoya responded: “yes, but we are at the risk of losing it.”

He noted that what President Hakainde Hichilema and his predecessor Edgar Lungu say sends a message to the people.

“When as a leader you are saying in the past you were treated like this, you are basically telling those people now it is your turn to do ABCD. So we have to be calculated, we have to be measured, as influencers in terms of what we say. And so some of the narratives that sometimes take place repeatedly are not helpful,” said Fr Chikoya. “If you compare with others, it is worse as it were. Are we at the risk of losing it, yes we are. So these two leaders how they speak, what they say, matters. It sends a certain message.”

UPND are still chasing a mirage – Chilangwa

By Rhoda Nthara(The Mast)

WHEN is the UPND government going to come to terms with the reality on the ground, asks Kawambwa PF member of parliament Nickson Chilangwa.

He said the UPND government are chasing a mirage.

“Your honour the Vice-President when is the UPND going to come to terms with the reality on the ground? When is this government going to terms with reality on the ground? I speak because if you go through publications and if you go on social media, if you go on radio stations, people are saying the same things but according to what we have here it looks like the executive are in a different country and not the real Zambia where we are,” he said during the Vice-President’s Question Time in parliament on Friday.

Chilangwa said the mirage which the UPND chased and “asked a lot of people to follow is still a mirage and should come to terms with what’s on the ground that in 2026 the UPND are packing their bags, Zambians are fade up.”

But Vice-President Nalumango said the UPND are not pretenders.

“So this government, we are here to serve the people,” she said.

Vice-President Nalumango said the UPND government does not claim to have monopoly of knowledge and wisdom.

“Now on the mirage, those first stages should be applied to you sir, that the mirage that you have been chasing of tulewelelapo (we are coming back to power) is just a mirage and it keeps going. There is no mirage here. We live in reality. That’s why we are working, Madam Speaker, to serve the people of Zambia and we are doing real things,” said Vice-President Nalumango. “Don’t pretend, we are not pretenders. We know we are passing through a rough patch but what we are doing it will soon be dawn. And Zambians will see the dawn government. New dawn does not come without night. People were in the night, we are still going in the dawn. It’s just there just wait.

I pretended to be a journalist to get leftovers at hotels, reveals Chizu

By Oliver Chisenga

GOD can lift anything, says Njenje Chizu.

Chizu says he has seen God raise him from being a student struggling to find food to his current position as Vice-President Mutale Nalumango’s press aide.

Reflecting on his life, Chizu recalls pretending to be a trained journalist in order to attend hotel meetings, where he would secretly collect food leftovers to later re-cook at college. Chizu recalled the day he was admitted to study Journalism and Public Relations at Evelyn Hone College in Lusaka.

“Whenever the college closed, I never went to visit my mother in the village; not because I never wanted to, but there was no money for me to travel back home,” he says.

His mother had taught him not to beg or solicit sympathy from rich people, and so Chizu would look for piecework from college management – and get a bag of mealie meal as payment.

“Joe Nkadaani, my then lecturer, was my pillar and can attest to this story,” he says.

Chizu reveals that because he would often have no condiment (popularly referred to as “relish”) to supplement the nshima he cooked, he resorted to unusual methods to avoid going hungry.

“Early morning I would walk to Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Pamodzi Hotel and Southern Sun in search of meetings and conferences, pretending to be a fully trained journalist. In order to convince the organisers, I went with my Hone FM ID. But hear me when I say my interest was not actually to write a story, it was the food organised for the delegates,” Chizu explains.

Chizu would later wait patiently for those who hadn’t finished their meals and collect the leftovers.

“This reminded me of what my mother used to do back in the village to have us survive. I threw bones and kept pieces of meat and chicken in my lunch box. When I went back to the college, I just prepared soup and threw into the pan my little pieces of meat or chicken and that was my supper,” he says.

Chizu says this went on for some time, unnoticed, as he would do it during college study breaks when students had returned home.

“Bambi Lesa alimimya (God has lifted some of you). Some of us alitukusa elo atukolonganika nokwamba ukutupanga (some of us He picked us and moulded us) before He thinks about lifting [us],” says Chizu.
“I don’t know the best way to put this in English but just know that God didn’t just lift my life; He first gathered me from little pieces together because I wasn’t in a capacity to even be lifted. God can lift anything!”

MAPEPA SAGA IN NEW TWIST

MAPEPA SAGA IN NEW TWIST

The latest episode in the Xiomara Mapepa saga is that the Zambian forward has joined Turkish giants Galatasaray but her former club Elite Ladies FC is claiming the move is illegal.

Mapepa moved to Galatasaray as a free agent after reportedly terminating her contract with Elite Ladies FC.

However, Elite Ladies FC has denied Mapepa’s free agent status, claiming she is still their player until her contract expires on May 31st, 2025.

In December last year Mapepa made allegations against her club Elite Ladies claiming she had not been paid for two years and the club was preventing her from leaving citing contractual obligations.

In response the club stated Mapepa was free to leave provided the club willing to take her pays a premium of 10,000 dollars and claimed they had records to prove they were up to date with payments.

By the time Mapepa left for Turkey she was on suspension from her club.

FAZ Elite Ladies Football club CEO Shalala Oliver Sepiso issued a press release on the clubs facebook page accusing FAZ of issuing an international transfer certificate without their knowledge also making damning allegations against Mapepa claiming she was suspended due to substance abuse problems.

“The club has been made aware of the player’s move to Turkey without our knowledge through social media reports,” the club statement read.

“We were aware that she was out of the country, but Mapepa is not a free agent. She is contracted to The Elite Ladies FC.”

“The player has not been playing because she was on suspension for substance abuse just after her last game for the club. ”

Elite Ladies FC are demanding a transfer fee of no less than $10,000 along with compensation for what they believe is an illegal transfer.

They are threatening to pursue the case through both FAZ and FIFA and expect to receive all monies owed to them.

The club expressed confidence in FAZ leadership to sort out the matter stating, “We believe that FAZ will not allow our club to be swindled of its most prized player.”

GRANT PICKS POSITIVES FROM MALAWI TOURNAMENT

GRANT PICKS POSITIVES FROM MALAWI TOURNAMENT

Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant says the Malawi Invitational Tournament was important as it provided an opportunity to try out new ideas and also have a look at new players.

Zambia drew 2-2 with Zimbabwe and beat Malawi 2-1 in the just ended Four Nations Tournament in Lilongwe.

In a post tournament reflection, Grant says he will soon be making an announcement regarding the captaincy of the Chipolopolo for assignments ahead.

The coach says he saw a lot of good things in the Malawi tournament where Zambia emerged third after playing Zimbabwe and hosts Malawi.

“This tournament was a target for us for preparations for the last time before we have qualifiers for the World Cup and for the Africa Cup that last time we came after nine years but now want to do it again,” he says,
Grant says with qualifiers for the next Africa Cup of Nations happening within a period of three months the Chipolopolo needed to be well prepared.

He says the Malawi tournament had helped him see new players and also try out new things.

“We did it very well, we tried different styles of play a little bit, new players that did not play in the first team and also not on the bench, they got a chance and we saw them not only by the games but also by the trainings, in hotel, how they behave because national team is different, you need to know that you are representing the country,” Grant says.
“I think it was very good because we played well in the games, we had a lot of situations that we passed the ball very good, secondly we scored every game two goals, fantastic goals with the team effort, every goal started before with a few passes. The players that did not play before now and got a chance, most of them showed that they can be in the national team.”

He says despite some lapses in the backline for the first game, the team improved in the second game.

“By the defense in the first game, we did not defend well and we conceded two easy goals which we wanted to learn from and we learnt from this. In the second game it was a new back four that did a good job, very good job even the goal that we conceded was a set piece that was an individual mistake,” he says.

“I did not like that we conceded two easy goals in the first game but this tournament is about learning that we will not do these mistakes in the important games.”

Grant says the door is open for any performing player as there is no one with a permanent place in the national team.
“When I came I said that I want to create a big squad of 30-40 players that from them I can choose the players that will be good for the team. This is one of the targets for this tournament (Malawi),” he says.

“All the players that trained with us, the young players, the local players, we gave them a chance here and they did not let us down, they did a good job and I cannot guarantee anything maybe for June, it will be the same squad like today, maybe it will be other players.”

“It was good to see the players from abroad and other local players we have had before giving 100% percent in trainings and during the games,” he says.

He adds: “In the league I saw a lot of games in the weeks that I was here in picking the team. Now I will also monitor the players that are abroad as I said the national team is not a closed club, the door is open for both sides, the players that will prove themselves will be in the squad, the players that are not will need to prove themselves for the same next time.”

Grant has also hinted at possible shake-ups in the Chipolopolo captaincy set up ahead of forthcoming assignments.
“We are starting a new tournament (phase), so one of the things is who will be the captain, I am thinking about this. A captains need to lead by example and for me it is more important, the captain needs to show all we are talking about, fighting spirit, commitment to the national team ,” he says.

“I think the players that were captain in this tournament did a good job, they showed that they can be one of them but we will announce about the captain soon.”

FRA INTENSIFIES COMMUNITY SALES PROGRAMME TO ALLEVIATE HUNGER IN DROUGHT PRONE AREAS

FRA INTENSIFIES COMMUNITY SALES PROGRAMME TO ALLEVIATE HUNGER IN DROUGHT PRONE AREAS

DATE: 28TH MARCH 2024

In February 2024, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Hakainde Hichilema declared the drought situation as a national disaster.

Six provinces namely: Southern, Western, Eastern, Central, Lusaka and parts of the Copperbelt experienced mild to severe drought exposing households to food insecurity.

In response to this situation, the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) was directed to enhance Community Sales and ensure that maize was made available to vulnerable households in the affected areas.

Arising from the current situation, the Agency (FRA) has re-strategised its Community Sales approach by moving selling points from centralised district depot locations to satellite depot locations that were used as buying locations during the previous crop marketing season.

This means that maize shall be prepositioned in satellite locations closer to communities in areas affected by drought and consequently reduce the distances for communities to access the maize on sale.

It should be noted that each household is entitled to buy ONLY one 50 kilogramme bag per month and affected districts such as Shang’ombo, Gwembe, Kabwe, Kalomo, Mumbwa, Lukulu, Sinazongwe, Zambezi, Ikelengi, and Kazungula just to mention but a few are currently benefitting from this programme.

In this regard, the Agency (FRA) has intensified the Community Sales programme and is currently implementing the programme in eighty-four (84) districts spread across the drought affected provinces as an intervention aimed at addressing food insecurity.

The Agency is selling a 50 kilogramme bag of maize under this programme at K330.00.

Therefore, the Agency expects the local leadership in deserving areas to utilise this opportunity and apply for maize under this programme in order for the vulnerable communities/households to benefit and address their food needs.

It should be noted that this programme is a direct, affordable and cheaper alternative that provides maize for milling into mealie meal in order to ensure household food security in vulnerable communities countrywide.

CELEBRATING DEBT RESTRUCTURING, A CAUTION TO ZAMBIAN’S- UKA

CELEBRATING DEBT RESTRUCTURING, A CAUTION TO ZAMBIAN’S- UKA
28 March 2024

Hakainde Hichilema’s government’s debt restructuring celebrations are premature, a sign of political desperation meant to show intangible results while misleading the Zambian people.

As United Kwacha Alliance (UKA), we would like to expressly caution Zambians against premature celebrations following Zambia’s debt restructuring deal secured by the UPND government with international bond holders and the Official Creditors Committee (OCC) this week.

UKA sees such staged jubilations as misleading to the Zambian people by faking economic achievements and exhibiting political desperation to show good results while hiding their bad governance.

The following are the facts and reasons for our observations and position:

1. The Government should state clearly that the “Debt Restructuring Deal” does not remove the burden of the Euro-bonds, except that they have been merely consolidated into two new ones – Bond A and Bond B in order to resume debt servicing.

2. President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government have deliberately chosen not to reveal to Zambians that the “Debt Restructuring Deal” is not “debt cancellation” nor does it mean “debt reduction” in the official Euro-bond debt. The government is deliberately being economic with the truth.

3. The Government is not fully disclosing its financial predicaments and weaker status for this process, as the terms of the “Debt Restructuring Deal” will negatively impact the Zambian economy and worsen the cost of living for the majority citizens.

Since Zambia will now resume debt repayments of over $180m in June, 2024 on Euro-bonds alone, the UPND government is not disclosing that Zambians must expect and prepare for severe fiscal stress on our economy.

4. Zambians must Remember that, during the last four (4) years, the country has not been servicing any external debt and unfortunately, this UPND government did not create any ‘sinking fund’ to set aside financial savings and secured resources to prepare us for this debt repayment.

5. Now that after this deal we are expected to start paying, where will we get the money given our current very weak and in-crisis financial condition? This government is not disclosing and answering this question.

6. UPND government has serious financial management difficulties and fiscal lacunas to the extent that this deal will count to nothing if any. Please bear in mind that the latest FIC report reveals that more than U$2.8 billion of illicit money was externalized by foreigners to offshore accounts in the last quarter of 2023 alone– this points to an extremely weak and porous financial system.

7. The past two and half years, this government has received more than U$1 billion worth of grants – not loans, plus more than U$6 billion dollars new loans of which they have not and cannot show or explain the impact of. The famous IMF loan is half way paid and spent but most Zambians cannot see anything tangible to validate the impact of the loan.

Given the aforesaid, The United Kwacha Alliance, UKA firmly believes that the UPND’s government debt restructuring celebrations are premature and a sign of political desperation to show intangible results and mislead the Zambian people.

UKA in government, we will start growing the capacity of our people, equipping state institutions and ensuring that a localized and home driven economic development and modernization process is launched.

If Zambia is to survive and rise above external dependence in form of foreign aid and loans, the Alliance is of the view that our economy must become more export than import oriented, and this we will do.

Further, UKA we will ensure that Zambians become the most important and competitive economic players in this economy by introducing programs that deliberately favour Zambians whilst not disadvantaging foreign investment.

Seer 1 and the Explosion of President Hichilema: 2026 Kaya!

0

By Kapya Kaoma

I struggle to make sense of how the phenomenal Bally exploded so fast. Across the nation, Bally is considered a pariah by those who once held him as an angel. Is the underworld behind it all?

I have had countless hours of interviews with Seer 1. “No African President developed a country more than Lungu,” Seer 1 emphatically stated. “Are you Zambians so foolish to ask why he lost to HH?” He went on to explain: “When President Sata died, we did something in Parliament. That’s why Lungu became president.”

According to Seer 1, President Lungu sought to liberate himself from his spell with Pentecostal prophets. But they failed to break his spell–leading millions of Zambians to turn against him.

You may take Seer 1 as a lunatic, but based on my many interviews, the story is simple. After he was forcefully deported from Zambia, Chief Monze was sent to South Africa to seek Seer 1’s help; “If you can make HH win the Presidential elections, I will personally come to Nigeria and thank you.” After HH’s victory, Seer 1 said, Chief Monze went to Nigeria to express gratitude to him.

Seer 1 claims to had worked with the PF politicians too. After falling out of grace during the Lungu regime, he was forcefully deported on suspicion that he was working with HH. I asked him about “the rings” he demanded from the Lungu regime. “People misunderstood it. If you come to me, they are things I will give you. Those are the things I demanded,” he said. “I mean spiritual powers. I have given such powers to Zambian pastors and politicians alike.”

Seer 1 is a self-proclaimed traditionalist and businessman, who according to his own words, most Zambians perceive to be a Satanist. As a traditionalist, his powers come from the underworld. To him, Christianity is a hobby, thus he is very sarcastic to Christian “prophets.” Unlike so-called prophets, Seer 1 claims to levitate–he moves between the underworld and the future. In short, he can manipulate the spiritual world to do certain things–something he said, “shouting in Jesus name won’t.” After visiting with the underworld, Seer 1 asked HH to lie to win the elections. “I told HH that your problem is that you are a good Christian. If you want to win the elections, the underworld demands you lie to Zambians. People will believe what they hear, and not what they see. The underworld has declared that you will be the next President.”

Seer 1 knows that many Zambians view him as a Satanist; hence politicians hide their association with him. When asked about HH’s victory, his answer was, “I went into the underworld after Chief Monze came to see me in South Africa. When I returned, I told him that Lungu was struggling to get 40 percent of the vote.” Seer 1 further told me, “I declared that if HH doesn’t win the elections, I will drop my mic and never speak again.”

Seer 1 spoke at length to his role in disempowering Lungu and empowering HH. He repeatedly boasted of having HH’s personal mobile number. “President HH listens to me. I have his personal mobile number.” I asked him whether he spoke to President HH. “Of course,” he boasted. “In fact, I will be meeting with him very soon,” he said after his meeting with Chief Monze. Could this explain why Seer 1 insulted UPND leaders at will, while the President was deadly mute?

I asked Seer 1 why HH dressed like him, specifically about the similar RED shirt he wore during the campaign. “Maybe it is because he loves me so much,” he said. How about the ritual of kissing blood on the ground, and the white gloves HH wore when he first entered the State House? Was he behind the President’s decision not to move to the State House? Or could it be that Seer 1 is the link to HH’s downfall?

Seer 1 claims credit for the hardest episodes of the Lungu Presidency. From appearing confused to bad health–the underworld was in control. “Lungu thought Sunday Sianyangwe, Sumaili and other pastors could remove my spell, they all failed,” he said. According to Seer 1, some PF politicians begged him to reverse the decision of the underworld. Lungu didn’t agree with that suggestion–leading to his downfall.

Could it be that Seer 1 behind the current pariah status of President Hichilema? In my forthcoming book, I tell the story of how HH, Chief Monze and UPND politicians exploited Seer 1’s powers to win the elections. You may consider Seer 1 crazy. But my interviews prove that the man has more intricate knowledge of political and religious leaders than meets the eye.

Based on his words, spiritual powers were behind people’s views of HH as the national Savior. Sadly once one disagrees with Seer 1, he can easily withdraw his powers. And here we are–could it be that spiritual powers that made HH a celebrity are the same ones which have made him a pariah? Telling by Seer 1’s recent statements (especially his claim of returning from the underworld) and the President’s untold plight, I believe that he can’t be taken lightly. As he repeatedly told me, Seer 1 doesn’t let go of those who betray him. Just as he held a very big grudge against President Lungu, today, he has spoken very negatively about President HH–something he shunned from one year ago. So what has changed? Is the underworld the answer? Only Seer 1 and HH know the truth. In the meantime, I have a book to finish.

HH’s Outstanding Performance Propels Zambia’s Economy To Higher Heights

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HH’s Outstanding Performance Propels Zambia”s Economy To Higher Heights.

Wednesday,
27th March,2024

President Haakainde Hichilema took over power at the time when Zambia’s Economy was in a condition of great disorder and a populace deeply in broken ranks. The country was plunged into an external debt crisis as a result of over borrowing by the previous PF Government. The rule of law had completely dwindled and corruption had taken the centrestage. The country was regionalized on tribal lines and the abuse of human rights was the order of the day. Citizens were subjected to indescribable torture and inhuman treatments by the law enforcement agencies. Public workers who belonged to other regions were marginalized and others retired in national interest. The recruitment of public workers and the appointments in key Government positions were all done on tribal and regional lines. Cadrerism became rampant and subdued the work of our men and women in uniforms

Zambia was plunged into not only internal debt but also external debt worthy Billions of Dollars, which the new dawn government inherited as such any well meaning Zambian knows that the few years of being in power has been very rough for the new dawn administration. Considering the difficult economic situation which was caused by the previous regime, the UPND led Government has even performed much better as it has made a lot of strides in addressing the economic hardships.

President Haakainde Hichilema has performed wonders as evidenced by the introduced deliberate social support Programmes in increased Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and other empowerment schemes that President Hichilema’s new dawn administration is rolling out. He has given economic diversification top priority, embracing transparency, accountability, public participation, effectiveness, responsiveness and the rule of law as tenets of good Governance.

The just concluded negotiations with creditors on Debt Restructuring, are clear indicators that Zambia’s Economic Recovery appears to be sure given the President’s emphasis on key sectors of the Economy such as Agriculture, Energy, Manufacturing, Tourism and Mining. President Hichilema’s stance is further consolidated by his dedication to democratic principles, human rights and the rule of law.

The increased (CDF) which the opposition is trying hard to downplay, is changing lives of people in communities across the country, because the funds have not only benefited business companies, clubs, cooperatives but have also helped to spur development in communities across all sectors of human endeavors. Despite the Opposition leaders only dwelling on the high cost of mealie meal and other food stuffs which Government is emphatically addressing, many facets of development have changed in Zambia since president Hichilema formed Government in 2021.

The realignment of the civil service to allow for the recruitment of teachers, health workers, agricultural officers and other government workers are some of the remarkable milestones that President Hichilema’s Government has scored. The move to employ in the civil service has not only created employment opportunities for youths but has also enhanced service delivery to the public who depend on Government for services.

We wish to remind the opposition political leaders who are busy trivializing or downplaying what the ruling UPND is doing that HH means well for the people of Zambia and that soon and very soon they will have nothing to talk about, especially when the prices of essential commodities are brought down.

The opposition who had taken the recruitment of public workers and the free Education policy as a circus are slowly but surely struggling to convince their minds that the UPND new Dawn administration means business and greatly appreciates the value of education as one of the weapons which can be used to subdue both social and economic challenges at all levels of society.

The free education policy is not only helping parents who have challenges to take their children to school but has also helped to reduce on illicit vices such as early child marriages, pregnancies, alcohol and drug abuse among youths.

The PF regime saw no importance of the Meal allowances in tertiary public institutions and ended up scrapping them off. But the UPND Government re-introduced them
and increased access to student bursaries and student loans in all public tertiary institutions which should be appreciated by all well meaning Zambians. It is worthy noting that within the first two years of being in power Government has also increased and expanded the access to Social Cash Transfer which is helping to cushion the impact of economic hardships in communities.

The 20 percent NAPSA partial withdraw, is yet another initiative which has helped Zambians. As if that is not enough, oth6 deliberate programmes have been initiated to dismantle pension benefits and unpaid arrears for retirees that were not paid as way back as during the MMD and PF tenure of office.

Therefore, it is not a surprise that our Zambia’s Republic President, Mr Haakainde Hichilema has been named as one of the top 5 best performing African leaders. We are urging all Cabinet Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and other top Government officials under UPND Administration to do introspection and emulate the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces to put in the best for effective service delivery if they are to meet People’s expectations.

The achievements that UPND administration has done under President Hichilema’s rulership within the few years of being in office such as the abolishment of the death penalty, signing of Access To Information Bill into law, ending carderism in public places, recognizing and respecting human rights, the enhancement of rule of law and concluding negotiations on debt restructuring among others are exceptionally outstanding. Zambians have seen sanity in the Political landscape and are now enjoying fresh air and democratic space which guarantees freedom of movements, expression and association with no more intimidations from anyone.

We are advising the opposition political party leaders to mature and provide not only credible checks and balances but also solutions to many challenges Zambians are faced with. The previous PF Government left the economy in tatters which the new dawn Government is in a hurry to remould. “ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY.”

Chilanga woman uses fake certificate to work in government for 13 years

A 41-YEAR-OLD woman of Chilanga district has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) after it was discovered that she used a fake certificate in 2011 to attain a job in the Ministry of Agriculture as a typist.

According to investigations Chefu Musonda, was a stenographer at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development as well.

She has been charged with two offenses: uttering a false document and obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretenses.

13 years ago Musonda’s heart pounded in her chest as she handed over the certificate. The once crisp certificate, now worn and creased from years of use, felt heavy in her sweating palms.

But for over a decade, Musonda had used it and lived a secret life.

The unassuming typist at the Ministry of Agriculture hid a web of deceit – The certificate she created, from imagination had unlocked the doors to government employment.

On June 17, 2011, Musonda went to the Ministry of Agriculture with a Certificate in Secretarial and Office Management which she created and was given her coveted job in Government.

And with each kwacha hitting her account the guilt slowly faded away with every passing year.

Before her fortress of lies came crumbling down she allegedly managed to steal over K500,000 from government since the time she was employed.

According to the ACC head of corporate communications Timothy Moono, Musonda knowingly used a fake certificate in Secretarial and Office Management (Serial Number 4376) to secure employment as a typist at the Ministry of Agriculture between 2010 and 2011.

The certificate was purportedly issued by Evelyn Hone College.

“Details in the second count are that Ms Musonda, on dates between 17th
June 2011 to 21st March, 2024, being a public officer namely, typist at the Ministry of Agriculture, dishonestly and with false pretence purported to have a Certificate in Secretarial and Office Management by virtual of which she was employed as a typist and did fraudulently obtain pecuniary advantage amounting to K532,392.12 from Ministry of Agriculture,” Moono revealed.

Moono said Musonda was released on bond waiting for court appearance soon
