PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Greetings Country Men and Women, and all PF faithfuls countrywide and beyond!

As you are all aware from events of today and the last couple of weeks, The UPND are on a self destructive path!

Today Tuesday 14th November 2023, Three of our top leaders in the PF namely Vice President Hon Given Lubinda, SG Hon Raphael Nakacinda and our Chairman for Information Amb Emmanuel Mwamba were summoned to go to Police Force HQ, where on arrival they were sent to Ibex Hill Police station from where they were taken to 3 different Police Stations namely Westwood Police Station on Mumbwa road, Emmasdale and Chilenje Police stations, respectively!

Our colleagues have since been charged for various flimsy offences and have been remanded in custody

All efforts to have them bonded failed, though sureties had stepped forward and ready! Obviously the Police wanted to humiliate our leaders as has become the norm under the new dawn under the leadership of President HH

Our colleagues have been visited by senior leaders and their families and l can report that they are in High spirits and we look forward to a better day tomorrow!

The action to arrest our colleagues by the out going UPND government is a feeble ploy to divert attention of our people, the country at large and the international community from the mess they created at the registrar of societies, the drama they have created in Parliament, the free falling kwacha, the miles Sampa retreat cum general conference, the high cost of Living, the IMF bailout mess, The Catholic Pastoral letter and the many other issues too too many to itemise! BUT THIS WILL NOT WORK AS ZAMBIANS ARE ALERT AND ALIVE TO WHAT IS GOING ON!

What is worrying is that the more people appeal to the UPND to check their bearings as they seem to be stearing the country in the wrong direction, the more adamant, retributive and aggressive they get like someone has bewitched them!

Surely this is not why the Zambians voted for change in 2021

I appeal to the UPND government to these time and resource wasting gymnastics and re-focus on real issues which are hurting the Zambians!

President HH the country is hurting and getting more and more polarised! Please take a moment to think properly and think through issues!

Zambia can only be good if it is good for all of us!

To all our members, supporters and the general population! These arrests have not created any vacuum in the leadership of our party!

Tomorrow Wednesday, 25th November 2023 we will be visiting our colleagues starting with Chilenje Police at 08.30 hours, then Emmasdale and ending up at Westwood on Mumbwa road

Thank you for your support and prayers, please continue praying and interceding for our motherland and it’s leadership!

This is just but a passing phase and it will bring grief to all perpetrators! Just like what happened to Pharaoh and the Egyptians!

Psalms 23 Vs 4 – 6

4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, l will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the lord forever

UPND ABUSING WOMEN IN KEY GOVT POSITIONS – HON MUNDUBILE

….NGOCC should advise UPND government that they are making them seem as if they don’t deserve those positions

Lusaka… Tuesday, November 14, 2023 (SMART EAGLES)

Mporokoso PF Member of Parliament. Hon Brian Mundubile says it is embarrassing for the UPND government to continue abusing women in key positions to make decisions against the supreme law of the land.

Hon Mundubile says if NGOCC means well for the welfare of women in the country, they should offer solidarity to the Chief Registrar of Societies Thandiwe Phiri Mhende who has been treated badly for doing the correct thing.

Speaking at Emmasdale Police Station, where he had gone to see PF Secretary General Hon Raphael Nakachinda, who has been arrested, Hon Mundubile says the UPND should stop abusing women in key positions.

“The UPND government is applying their energy in the wrong direction because they should direct it towards the economy and high cost of living. The dollar is trading at K23 today to a dollar, and the much talked about IMF deal has gone wrong because they are not focusing on improving the living standards of the people,” he said.

“It’s very embarrassing to see my fellow counsel Jack Mwiimbu struggling to explain himself out by calling the document printed from the Registrar of Societies not being authentic which came out from the government platform secured Smart Zambia. I think as a government, you have made so much effort to try and help Miles Sampa, but this is a failed project. Miles Sampa did not go through the due process, he did not include the meeting of Central Committee, he didn’t include the national council, he didn’t include the Chairperson of the party convening that particular meeting. Even if we give comrade Mwiimbu ten years to amend, that can not be a PF convention.”

He said Miles Sampa had been exposed.

“The expose that was made yesterday regarding the filling status at the Registrar of Societies office brought this Sampa battle to a close. It is very clear that Miles Sampa will never be PF president. What happened was a retreat at Mulungushi International Conference Centre,” he added.

“It is also embarrassing that madam Speaker has to go through all this, and we warned her that she should have been more careful now. This is an international embarrassment. We warned her about the letter from Ng’ona, the MPs themselves that are supposed to elect leaders in the House wrote to her now look at the embarrassment.”

Hon Mundubile said it is worrying that NGOCC went to give solidarity to a woman who breached the constitution with impunity.

“Our advice to NGOCC is that they should go back to government and encourage them that they should not abuse women in making certain decisions that are not in conformity with the laws of the land. We believe that the appointing authority is abusing women by making it seem that appointed women don’t deserve those positions. Nelly Mutti is a lawyer, and she should know better,” he added.

“NGOCC must remind the government that certain decisions they are making women to pronounce are making them inferior. UPND has made it look like Nelly Mutti does not deserve that position, and these are the things NGOCC should be raising.”

The Mporokoso lawmaker has since appealed to all PF supporters to remain confident, saying there was no general conference on 24th October 2024 and that what was held was a retreat.

“THE PRINTOUT FROM REGISTRAR OF SOCIETIES IS AUTHENTIC”- PF Chairperson for Legal Affairs Hon George Chisanga

“THE PRINTOUT FROM REGISTRAR OF SOCIETIES IS AUTHENTIC,” Hon. George Chisanga

….it’s absurd for Hon. Mwimbu to insinuate otherwise..

Lusaka… Tuesday, November 14, 2023 (SMART EAGLES)

PF Chairperson for Legal Affairs Hon George Chisanga says its ridiculous for Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwimbu to suggest that the printout of the office bearers of the PF is fake.

The Lukasha lawmaker wondered how Mwimbu could quetion the validity of the printout when it was done from a secure government platform.

“We have noted that the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Hon Jack Mwiimbu has also issued a statement in which he has questioned the subpoena that was issued by Judge Katenekwa as well as the printout from the Registrar of Societies. We are deeply concerned as PF because firstly, these statements from Sampa and Mwiimbu are orchestrated schemes to ensure that people don’t know the truth of our documentation at the Registrar of Societies. We know for sure that for the past one month, they have been trying to change the particulars at the Registrar of Societies,” he said.

“When the young lady complied with the court order, they have removed her from her position. She tried to comply with the provisions of the law, but she is humiliated for doing the correct thing. We know there have been schemes between Parliament and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security to put her under so much pressure to change the office bearers.”

Hon Chisanga said the Registrar has done nothing wrong to warrant that treatment, saying she will be walking with her head high because she is professional.

“This is a woman who is supposed to receive support from all women in this country. The NGOCC, if they mean well for women in the country, they should not have wasted time to visit Nelly Mutti but should have stood strong with the Chief Registrar of Societies who has shown that she is principled,” he added.

“The Speaker has been abrogating the law from the beginning by accepting what Mr Ng’ona wrote to her. She breached all the guidelines of the Common Wealth Parliamentary Association, which tells you how you should monitor and regulate Parliament. Hon Jack Mwiimbu, being a lawyer, knows the effects of the subpoena because you can’t get it if you don’t swear before a judge.”

He charged that the UPND are ready to abrogate the law and constitution in a bid to destroy the PF, saying the intention of the UPND is to steal the former ruling party.

“We call on Zambians to stand up because this is not about PF but democracy. It is not a secret that Miles Sampa’s convention was sponsored by UPND. PF is a movement and has a heart. You can arrest us and do whatever you want to do, but people will still speak positively about us,” he indicated.

He also said that in the next couple of days, the nation will witness the arresting of other opposition party leaders by the new dawn administration

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
By Citizens First President Harry Kalaba

LUSAKA, Nov 14 – Citizens First is deeply concerned at the wanton disregard for Constitutional provisions in the discharge of duty by the UPND Government.

The recent removal of the Chief Registrar of Society, Mrs. Thandiwe Mhende, for her refusal to effect changes to office bearers in the Patriotic Front is another case of blatant abuse of authority by the Government.

While we are aware that the dismissed Chief Registrar has had her own shortcomings and as Citizens First we suffered mistreatment at her hands, we hold a firm belief that she is entitled to rules of natural justice and we urge the Government not to act emotionally in dealing with the matter at hand.

It’s even more worrisome that the act to punish the Chief Registrar comes only a few days after the release of the Pastoral letter by the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops in which they advised the government on a number of wrong things happening in the UPND administration.

The continued display of irregularities in the manner the UPND is governing the nation appears to be very well choreographed and can no longer be regarded as mere omissions.

For instance, we observed with regret the abuse of Police officers to provide security to a PF faction perceived to be sponsored by the ruling party, we have seen attempts to implement State capture of both the legislature as well as the Judiciary by the UPND administration.

Further, we have continued to read in the press allegations of corruption in certain ministries concerning single sourcing or cancellation of contracts at the whim of a minister without due regard for the laid down procedures.

We are not surprised that the nation is degenerating into a state of lawlessness because the President seems to think that what’s happening within his government is normal otherwise, he would have acted to stop the rot.

It’s very clear, we may not expect any corrective measures from the Head of State who himself is costing the nation huge sums of tax payers money by his insistence to stay at a private residence instead of the official residence designated for the President.

The desperation by the UPND Government to hold on to power at any cost is very evident for every Zambian to see and they seem prepared to break the same law they swore to protect.

We wish to warn President Hichilema and his government that the time of reckoning is coming and they will have to account for all illegalities they are perpetrating.

MALANJI NEVER GOT ANY MONEY FROM TURKEY

…the former Foreign Affairs Minister was not even in government at the time the need to purchase property arose, explains Accountant at Zambia’s Embassy in Ankara

Lusaka, Tuesday, November 14, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

A 50-year-old former Accountant at Zambia’s Embassy in Ankara, Sam Sankenga has told the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court that former Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Joseph Malanji never got any money from Turkey.

Now an Accountant at Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lusaka, Mr Sankenga was in charge of Financial operations in the same capacity at Zambia’s Mission in Ankara from February 2014 to June 2022.

In this case, the former Minister and former Secretary to the Treasury Fred Yamba are jointly charged with willful failure to comply with procedure relating to procurement, and being in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

When the matter came up today before Magistrate Irene Wishimanga who is sitting under the Economic and Financial Crimes Court, Mr Sankenga disclosed that the need to purchase property arose in 2014, the year that he had started working for the Mission in question.

He explained that what necessitated the move was the fact that government was spending more than US$70,000 in rentals monthly.

The witness further disclosed that Hon Malanji was not even in government the time the need to purchase the said property arose.

The Accountant testified that the former Minister had nothing to do with the purchase of the said property.

Asked if the decision to procure services of a Lawyer and Estate Agents in Turkey was done from the Embassy, the witness confirmed by saying “correct,” the entire process was done in liaison with the Ministerial Committee at Headquarters in Lusaka.

He added that the Minister is never part of the Ministerial Committee chaired by then Permanent Secretary for Administration Ronald Simwinga and the choice of the Lawyer and Vendor in Ankara had nothing to do with Hon Malanji.

“The procurement Committee at both the Embassy and in Lusaka had nothing to do with Hon Malanji,” he said, adding that “we negotiated ourselves.”

The witness revealed that offers from the Vendors were invited by the Embassy and were known by the Embassy.

Asked who decided to pick a Turkish Property management company, MITA, as the appropriate Vendor, Mr Sankenga said “the Ministerial Committee at Headquarters in Lusaka picked MITA and they sent a letter saying MITA has been picked.”

He also acknowledged that anybody that comes to Court and says the purchase was not approved would be lying.

The witness further said according to his knowledge, MITA was not known to Hon Malanji.

He also said Mr Burhan Asaf Safak, representing MITA under whose portfolio the properties were, confirmed receipt of $6,877,000 payment towards the purchase of properties.

Asked why at some point he was asked to accompany Mr Safak to the Bank, the witness said “the late Ambassador Joseph Chilengi instructed that I accompany him.”

His response to why Mr Safak used the Embassy Vehicle to carry some Money from the Bank was that it was for security reasons.

Mr Sankenga also disclosed that the money was not drawn from the Embassy account.

“I wouldn’t even know from which account it was drawn and for whatever reasons,” he said.

He said he knew the vehicle used by Safak was intended to transport people to the Airport.

Mr Sankenga said at no time did Hon Malanji use the vehicle that had the Money belonging to Safak.

“Hon Malanji was in Turkey to source for KCM buyers and had no interactions with Safak,” he explained.

He also acknowledged that there was no wrong done by the Embassy in the process.

MY ENCOUNTER WITH MR IBU AFTER AMPUTATION…ACTOR INOJIE

Actor-Producer, Director, Charles Inojie wrote about Mr Ibu…

“MR IBU… THE INDOMITABLE HUMORIST!

I never thought I could ever be able to relate this chapter of my encounter with Mr Ibu on his sick bed because I had this funny feeling that it had the potential of making light of a very dire situation as his condition presented. Well, the enigmatic humour monger himself, Ali Baba, has given me a soft landing to go ahead.

I walked into his private ward in the ICU in the company of Chinyere Wilfred at whose behest we made the journey to Ever Care where he is being treated. We had just finished from a set, and she suggested that we take the opportunity to visit Ibu. With us were Jasmine, Mrs Ibu, and a woman I believe is her friend.

As soon as we stepped into the room, his eyes lit up, and he retorted:

IBU: “Idiot, what are you doing here?”

ME: “Mumu, why you carry your leg go give mallam to dey cut?”

IBU: “I get sense?”

He would go on to quibble a few friendly banters with Chinyere. In fact, suffice to say that if a total stranger walked into that room that minute, he would never be able to tell who, indeed, was the patient.

From one joke to the other, Ibu literally entertained us. For a moment, i peered into his eyes as if searching for the secret of his willpower, and again, he levelled me out.

IBU: “You dey pity for me? No fear, the doctor say I go fit still use the leg later, even though some betta-betta meat don commot for the leg.”

You could never stop wondering where he got the strength under such agonising pain to exude such positive energy so effortlessly.

Then came the moment. I picked his hands from his sides and held them tightly as I muttered,
“Let’s pray.”

We gazed intently at each other and connected on the fading highways of nostalgia, and upon the instance, I felt a mad rush of hot tears welling up beneath my quivering eyelids. I quickly turned away for fear my animal weakness was threatening to have the better of me, but too late. Ibu was crying, too!

We prayed and cried freely and came to, unconsoled. He wiped his eyes as I did mine, and out of the blues, the Ibu in him reared its head again.

IBU: “Idiot, you go dey cry. Wetin dey beat you?”

ME: “Mumu, you no cry?”

IBU: “Na as I see you dey cry, na him I say make I support you na.”

The two delectable nurses tending him laughed and laughed, and you could tell that Ibu made their jobs so very easy with his ebullient mien.

I left his ward with one of life’s vital lessons running through my mind… WHOEVER CAN MUSTER THE WILLPOWER TO SURVIVE IN THE FACE OF ANGUISH AND LIFE THREATENING PAIN, CAN DEFEAT DEATH EVEN IN THE MOST FIERCESOME BATTLE.

May God Almighty grant Ibu a speedy recovery. Copied

UN prosecutor confirms death of fugitive wanted in Rwanda genocide

0

The war crimes prosecutor tasked with finding the remaining fugitives sought by a United Nations tribunal over their alleged roles in the 1994 Rwandan genocide has confirmed the death of suspect Aloys Ndimbati.

In the past three years, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) has arrested two Rwandan genocide suspects and confirmed the deaths of four other fugitives, including Ndimbati.

In a statement on Tuesday, UN prosecutors concluded Ndimbati had died in 1997 in Rwanda.

“While the exact circumstances of his death have not been determined owing to the confusion and absence of order at the time, the evidence gathered by the office of the prosecutor demonstrates that Ndimbati did not leave the Gatore area, and that he was never seen or heard from again,” the statement said.

Ndimbati, a Rwandan public official at the time, was accused of having personally organised and directed the killings of thousands of Tutsis and faced multiple genocide charges.

In all, more than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were slaughtered by hardline Hutus, led by the Rwandan army and a militia known as the Interahamwe, in 100 days in 1994.

Genocide survivor Eric Nzabihimana told the Reuters news agency that Ndimbati played a role in the deaths of his mother, many siblings and extended family members.

“It shouldn’t end like this; it would have been better to see him held accountable for his actions,” Nzabihimana said, adding that he was not surprised by the death because he’d already heard unconfirmed reports.

The former UN tribunals for war crimes in Rwanda and Yugoslavia have been rolled over into a successor court that has offices in The Hague, Netherlands, and in Arusha, Tanzania.

There are no remaining fugitives sought by the Yugoslavia tribunal and now only two outstanding suspects for the Rwanda tribunal.

The prosecutor’s statement was released just as a Rwandan doctor went on trial in France on Tuesday on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity during the 1994 genocide.

Sosthene Munyemana, 60, appeared before the Assize Court in Paris nearly 30 years after a complaint was filed against him in the southwestern French city of Bordeaux in 1995. He is accused of organising torture and killings.

The trial is scheduled to last five weeks. Munyemana, who denies the charges, faces life in prison if convicted. Al Jazeera

Grammy-nominated gospel artist causes stir on flight after flight attendant asked her not to sing on plane

0

Grammy-nominated gospel artist Bobbi Storm has locked horns with a Delta attendant over her persistence to perform for fellow travelers. Social media footage captured of Storm, 36, shows the vocalist making multiple moves to put up in-flight performances until airline staff intervened, threatening to send her off the plane.

The Detroit-born artist was featured in the Grammy-nominated album “The Maverick Way” by Christian group Maverick City Music.

The disagreement began when Storm took to the aisle and began performing to the delight of other travelers but was ordered back to her seat by the flight attendant. The gospel artist, who did not take this lightly, told the attendant she was making waves on the Billboard charts but the flight attendant retorted she should keep quiet and sit down, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The gospel artist drew the flight attendant’s attention to the seatbelt sign being off, insisting it wasn’t a disturbance. Despite retreating to her seat, the situation escalated as she began sharing her origin story with mixed reactions from nearby passengers. Some exchanged uneasy glances, while one woman seemed entertained in the unfolding drama.

Justifying her action, Storm revealed that she has been singing on planes for a very long time. She indicated that the excitement of having two Grammy nominations is enough reason to share her joy with others. The announcement was met with applause from supportive passengers. She indicated her song “We Can’t Forget Him,” is available on various platforms.

She explained that when she was boarding the plane, her initial plan was to sing for passengers but she reconsidered this decision due to her elevated status.

In sharing this, the flight attendant interrupted her and asked her to be quiet. Storm asserted however that other passengers were enjoying her performance. The Delta employee responded that he wasn’t impressed with the singer’s performance and requested her to be quiet. Storm, in response, questioned if she would face consequences, and asked if she would go to jail if she didn’t comply.

The flight attendant, growing frustrated, repeatedly asked the gospel singer if she was willing to be quiet. But, this was met with an emphatic no from Storm who stated that she was following the Lord’s instructions.

The airline employee insisted on a direct answer, emphasizing his authority as the flight leader. Storm turned to other passengers for their opinions, but, there were no replies.

The Delta attendant, visibly frustrated, asked Storm to comply, but she again redirected her question to the passengers. The attendant issued a final warning, stating that failure to follow instructions would result in Storm not being allowed on the flight.

Storm quickly backtracked and resumed to her seat, closing the temporary drama. Despite agreeing to be quiet, Storm later turned to fellow passengers and proposed to sing quietly for those in the back.

She expressed her intention to perform a rendition of her song, “We Can’t Forget Him,” while expressing confusion about the flight attendant’s objection, stating that no one else has ever had an issue with her singing.

‘I supported you when many rejected you’: Suella Braverman hits back at Rishi Sunak in resignation letter

0

Suella Braverman has just published a scathing resignation letter after she was sacked by Rishi Sunak as home secretary yesterday.

After a paragraph expressing pride in her record in the post, Mrs Braverman writes: “Despite you having been rejected by a majority of party members during the summer leadership contest and thus having no personal mandate to be prime minister, I agreed to support you because of the firm assurances you gave me on key policy priorities.

“Those priorities were reducing illegal migration, excluding parts of international law from new legislation aimed at stopping small boat crossings, delivering the Northern Ireland Protocol and the retained EU law legislation as they were a year ago (and have since changed), and issuing statutory guidance protecting biological sex.”

But she writes: “You have manifestly and repeatedly failed to deliver on every single one of these key policies.”

She accuses him of a “betrayal of our agreement” that put Mr Sunak in Downing Street and a “betrayal of your promise to the nation that you would do ‘whatever it takes’ to stop the boats”.

The ex-home secretary also accuses the prime minister of a “failure to rise to the challenge posed by the increasingly vicious antisemitism and extremism displayed on our streets” since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.

She labels his response to “the rising tide of racism, intimidation, and terrorist glorification” as “uncertain, weak, and lacking in the qualities of leadership that this country needs”.

Concluding the letter, she writes: “Someone needs to be honest: your plan is not working, we have endured record election defeats, your resets have failed and we are running out of time.”

Mrs Braverman acknowledges that she “may not have always found the right words” to express her views, but says she has “always striven to give voice to the quiet majority that supported us in 2019”.

But she adds, “I will, of course, continue to support the government in pursuit of policies that align with an authentic conservative agenda.”

Jesús Ociel Baena: Mexico’s first magistrate who identified as non-binary found dead

0

Jesús Ociel Baena, Mexico’s inaugural openly non-binary member of the judiciary and a prominent LGBTQ+ activist, was found deceased at their residence.

The body of the magistrate was located on Monday in the central city of Aguascalientes, alongside the remains of a second individual, identified by local media as Baena’s partner.

Security Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez said it was unclear “if it was a homicide or… some kind of accident”.

According to a statement from the state attorney general’s office, there was no sign that a third person had entered the house

They said that a sharp object had been found and that preliminary findings suggested the incident could have been a personal matter.

The LGBTQ+ rights group Letra S has urged local authorities to investigate the deaths thoroughly and without prejudice.

Alejandro Brito, the group’s director, said that Baena, who used they/them pronouns, had received “many hate messages and even threats of violence and death”, the Associated Press reported.

Brito added that Baena had been “breaking through the invisible barriers that closed in the nonbinary community”.

In October 2022, at the age of 38, Jesús Ociel Baena assumed the role of a magistrate for the Aguascalientes state electoral court, marking a historic moment as the first non-binary individual in Latin America to hold a judicial position.

Furthermore, in June of the same year, Baena was among the inaugural recipients of gender-neutral passports.

“I am a non-binary person; I am not interested in seeing myself as a woman or a man,” Baena wrote on X, formerly Twitter, the same month.

“This is an identity; it is mine and for me, for no one else.”

A vigil was held for Baena by other LGBTQ+ activists in the capital, Mexico City, on Monday evening.

“We are heirs to a struggle that Ociel inherited from us,” one person told Reuters news agency.

“We must not let Ociel’s death pass in vain and we must carry on the legacy Ociel left us.”

The former chief justice of Mexico’s Supreme Court, Arturo Zaldivar, wrote on social media that he deeply regretted the magistrate’s death.

“We lost a strong voice for equality and the rights of LGBTI+ people,” he said.

JOHN MUTEKENYA THREATENS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST PF LAWYER MAKEBI ZULU

Lusaka business man John Mutekenya has threatened legal action against PF lawyer Makebi Zulu if he continues publishing and distributing publications that purport that he is an office holder in the Patriot Front – PF. I write to urgently request your Office to remove my Name and all details connected to me from your records for the Patriotic Front as an Office Bearer.

In an urgent letter addressed to Registrar of Societies, Mr. Mutekenya states that he has noticed the list of office bearer in a letter from Makebi Zulu and Associates that his name is appearing among the office bearers. He says that he is not a member of the Patriotic Front and has never ascribed as an Office Bearer of the said Political Party. He has accused the Registrar of Societies maintaining of injury to his personal well-being by keeping such records which is grossly misleading the members of the public.

He has further stated that there are no minutes supporting such a claim of him assuming office or being part of Office bearers. “I have never held any meeting with the so-called Office bearers as purported in the print outs being circulated to the public by some political players and other members of the public. My details were maliciously included by malicious individuals. Some documents also show or purport that I ‘Resigned’ which is totally untrue as there are no authentic documents showing such an action having been taken by myself. There is certainly no way I could have resigned from a position that I have never held.” Mr. Mutekenya stated.

Mr. Mutekenya has further requested the Registrar to have accurate records and protect him as he not a Politically Exposed Person (PEP) demanding that records are corrected within Seven days of receipt of his minute from the database. He went on to state that Counsel Makebi Zulu in his submission to the Speaker of the National Assembly on 13th November 2023 did include his details in the so-called Office Bearers print out emanating from the Office of Registrar of Societies which is totally misleading and incorrect.

Mr. Mutekenya has further cautioned Makebi Zulu to avoid dragging his personal details in the battles of the Patriotic Front party and that his continued publication of the print out purportedly from the Office of Registrar of Societies is very damaging to his well being and he will be left with no option but seek legal redress.

Executive Lawlessness: Armed Police Chase Registrar Of Societies Out Of Office- Fred M’membe

EXECUTIVE LAWLESSNESS: ARMED POLICE CHASE REGISTRAR OF SOCIETIES OUT OF OFFICE

Registrar of Societies Ms Thandiwe Mhende was yesterday “dismissed” and hounded out of her officer by a contingent of over 15 armed and uniformed police officers.

In a letter dated November 13, 2023, Home Affairs permanent secretary Dickson Matembo notified Ms Mhende about the Ministry’s decision to surrender her to the Public Service Management Division (PSMD) at Cabinet Office. In his correspondence Mr Matembo stated that the changes in the office of the Chief Registrar where with immediate effect.

But according to highly placed sources within the Zambia Police Service, when Ms Mhende reported at PSMD as per directive, she was sent back to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security after it was discovered that Mr Matembo’s letter had errors.

As guided by PSMD, Ms Mhende proceeded and returned to her office and within a short while, a contingent of 15 armed and uniformed police officers, accompanied by four (4) plain clothed police detectives arrived and sealed the offices of the Registrar of Societies.

The police sources disclosed that Ms Mhende was for an hour held against her will before the armed police officers demanded that she leaves her office immediately so that they could lock it up. True to their word, the police locked up Ms Mhende’s office together with some of her personal effects.

The sources revealed that Ms Mhende’s lawyer, who was present when all this was unfolding, tried to seek audience with the armed police officers but none was willing to engage him or disclose the name of the team leader, nature of the operation and who had sanctioned it.

Above here is the summary of events that took place at the office of the Registrar of Societies yesterday.

We have said it before and we are saying it again, no matter how Mr Hakainde Hichilema tries to pretend or distance himself from this nauseating, amateurish and reckless manoeuvre, his finger prints are written all over it. It is also a fact, that Ms Mhende has been the biggest stumbling block in Mr Hichilema’s passionate desire to use rogue and hungry elements within the PF to take over the party on his behalf.

We know that they have been giving illegal orders to Ms Mhende but because she has been demanding that they put their directives in writing to cover herself, they are stuck. However, Mr Hichilema and his fellow cowards have now shamelessly decided to descend on an innocent and helpless woman with full force, including the use of armed police officers. For what? What a way of abusing taxpayer’s money to perpetuate illegalities and vanity undertakings?

No matter what they do, the fact remains that Ms Mhende has conducted herself above board on this matter and has performed her public duties with sufficient honour and integrity. She has executed her mandate with faultless precision, vigour and determination. Her honesty, integrity and sincerity in this matter has turned the heat on all abusive and criminal elements behind this matter right from the presidency.

And her “dismissal” is nothing but Executive lawlessness and no doubt, dedicated public servants like Ms Mhende are being abused through such acts of Executive lawlessness.

In a constitutional democracy, governments are expected to operate within the principles of constitutionalism and the rule of law and not this reign of arbitrariness. There is absolutely no recourse to the due process of the law anymore. The Executive is mighty over the law and over the Constitution.

It’s really saddening to see what is happening and how the country’s governance institutions are being shredded to pieces through irresponsible and reckless decisions. But Mr Hichilema and his league are not clever, and whatever they are doing has nothing to do with courage but sheer infantile excitement with power, which will backfire badly. They will be made to answer for their lawlessness. Tabasambilila!

They thought governance was a walk in the park but now that reality has dawned, they’re feeling the pressure and having a mental breakdown.

But they will not succeed. They will pay dearly for this. They will be taught a harsh lesson about people-power and what an oppressed and suppressed citizenry can do to safeguard its interests and protect their country.

They’re forgetting that their proclivity to be lawless in almost of all of their conduct comes with very unpleasant consequences. It’s just a matter of time, bakalila!

Following the release of Office Bearers of the Patriotic Front by the Chief Registrar of Societies on Monday 13th November 2023, there has been very lively and robust debate about the list.

This is expected and is attributable to information gap but also exposes the crime being perpetrated by the government of President Hakainde Hichilema to make legal and legitimate the attempted theft of the Patriotic Front.

Below is the Brief Background

On 25th April 2023, the Chief Registrar of Societies wrote to the Patriotic Front, informing the Party that she intended to cancel its registration.

“You are hereby notified that I intend on canceling your Political Party following your failure to comply with the Order to avail a full and complete list of Office Bearers of your Party.”

“As you may be aware, it is a legal requirement under Section 2 of the Societies Act Cap 119 of the Laws of Zambia for every Society to have a minimum of Ten (10) Office bearers.”

She stated that the new names submitted as Office Bearers in April 2021 to replace the old names were not accompanied by copies of NRCs, fingerprints and Curriculum Vitaes.

She gave the Party 21 days from 25th April 2023 in which to comply with her directives.

The Patriotic Front expressed surprise at this allegations but promptly the Secretariat re-submitted the documents confirming that it had complied. It resubmitted the details and documents showing as follows;

The Central Committee meeting which was held on Saturday, 17th April, 2021 at
the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Lusaka resolved;

Pursuant to Article 58(k) of Party Constitution, the meeting was attended by
sixty two (62) members and formed a quorum.

It was, therefore resolved, that the following be appointed as office bearers
for the Patriotic Front Party:

1. Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu
2. Hon. Davies Mwila
3. Mr. Ng’onga Mukupa
4. Mrs. Monica Mwale Mwansa
5. Mrs. Annie Nyirenda Tischer
6, Hon. Davies Chama
7. Hon. Mwimba Malama
8. Hon. Emerine Kabanshi
9.Hon.Freedom Chomba Sikazwe
10. Hon. Stephen Kampyongo

These names were to replace;
1. Bernadette Mvula
2. Daniel Miyambo
3. Ephraim Chisumbe
4. John Mutekenya and
5. Richard Chanda

And in responding to the Chief Registrar in a letter dated 27th April,2023, signed by Deputy Secretary General, Hon. Nixon Chilangwa, the Secretariat submitted more names for the attention of the Chief Registrar.

Besides the old names, these were added on the previous list:

1. Given Lubinda
2. George Chisanga
3. Raphael Nakacinda

CURRENT STATUS

Following the intention to deregister the Patriotic Front on account of failure to submit details of Office Bearers and the subsequent action to comply, the Chief Registrar has not informed the Party of the changes submitted by the Patriotic Front in April 2021 and re-submitted in April 2021.

The Office Bearers remain as those reflected since 2015.

Below is the correspondence for ease of reference.

Last week, the Party sued the Registrar of Societies to compel her to release details of Office Bearers of the Patriotic Front.

This followed claims made by Hon. Miles Sampa that he had purported to have held an Extra-Ordinary General Conference. Further the Speaker of the National Assembly proceeded to make changes on the strentgh that the PF had new Office Bearers as purported by Sampa and by an alleged search conducted at the Registrar of Societies.

Following a Court Order granted by Judge Timothy Katenekwa of the Lusaka High Court, the Chief Registrar proceeded to comply with the Order of court and released the current status of the Office Bearers of the Patriotic Front.

It revealed that the changes have not been effected as shown by the current print-out certified by the bar-code.

Further after the Party held its General Conference in April 2021, their proposed changes submitted in 2021 and resubmitted in April 2023 have also not been effected. The Office Bearers remain as those reflected since 2015.

For the case of Miles Sampa, his Conference has NOT complied with the party Constitution of the PatrioticvFront and he was a suspended official at the time he purported to hold the event.

Sadly the heroic action of the Chief Registrar of Socities to comply with the Order of the Lusaka High Court and release the official documents has attracted negative consequences and she has since been removed from her office.

Subsequently we learnt of fresh attempts to commit more crimes by illegally changing the names of Office Bearers of the Patriotic Front.

Assessing Lungu’s Influence on Zambian’s Political landscape

Assessing Lungu’s Influence on Zambian’s Political landscape

By Daimone Siulapwa

In the realm of Zambian politics, the return of Edgar Lungu to the forefront has sparked discussions about his role and the potential impact on the country’s political landscape.

However, a closer examination suggests that while he may be making political noise, Lungu’s influence might be more about filling the void left by the absence of a strong opposition rather than posing a genuine political threat. The damage his regime inflicted on Zambia is too huge to be forgotten and forgiven in just a few years.

While there may be a yearning for an alternative government in the face of potential UPND total failure by 2026, the prospect of reverting to the PF regime is akin to embracing a regressive past—an analogy Zambians are understandably hesitant to entertain.

Edgar Lungu, as the former president, represents a faction eager to reclaim lost glory and political power. His return, characterized by political manoeuvring and vocal engagement, seems to be driven by a desire to capitalize on the current void in the opposition or just a sheer desire to cause political confusion and send UPND into panic. UPND must ignore Lungu at all cost and not fall for his bait, as he is a spent force who is now politically impotent to make much meaningful difference, but his political shrewdness must not be underestimated at any cost.

It is crucial to understand this dynamic not as a resurgence of a formidable political force but rather as an attempt to leverage past influence for future gain. The association between Lungu and those formerly in power raises concerns about the motivations behind this political resurgence.

it is now clear for all to see that, lungu is being influenced by many of his former appointees facing corruption charges, seeking a return to power as a means of escaping legal consequences of their past actions and as for Lungu, he is banking on the immunity granted to former president as a shield to peddle his political shenanigans at a cost of national unity and progress.

A deeper analysis unveils the potential dangers of granting the Patriotic Front (PF) another opportunity to govern Zambia. The specter of vengeance looms large, reminiscent of the Rwanda genocide, with implications that could jeopardize the peace, stability, and prosperity of the nation. The unmistakable evidence suggests that a PF return may unleash a pursuit of retribution, posing a grave threat to the well-being of Zambia.

However, the prevailing sentiment among citizens also indicates a reluctance to welcome back the PF, even in the face of discontent with the UPND.

It’s noteworthy that while there is discontent with the UPND, the sentiment toward the PF, under Lungu’s leadership, is not overwhelmingly positive. This nuance provides an opportunity for the UPND to address its inefficiencies, rectify issues causing dissatisfaction, and consolidate its position.

The year 2026, while seemingly distant, provides a critical timeframe for the UPND to implement strategic reforms. The focus should be on actively engaging with citizens, understanding their grievances, and formulating policies that resonate with their needs.

Corrections must be made to ensure that the party not only retains its current support but also attracts those disenchanted with the present political climate, including its own loyal members who are now lost, hungry, broke and suffering in the wilderness of Zambia’s current poverty.

The absence of a strong opposition doesn’t absolve the ruling party from accountability. Instead, it underscores the responsibility of the UPND to rise above the current challenges, strengthen its foundations, and emerge as a more cohesive and responsive political force.

In navigating the political terrain leading up to 2026, the UPND has an opportunity to turn the discontent into a catalyst for positive change.

By addressing internal inefficiencies, fostering transparency, and actively working to meet the expectations of the citizens, the party can not only secure its position but also fortify the democratic process in Zambia

While Edgar Lungu’s political noise may echo in the current void, the real challenge and opportunity lie within the UPND’s ability to course-correct and address the grievances of the people.

The road to 2026 is indeed long, but with strategic corrections, the UPND can not only withstand any potential challenge but also emerge stronger and more attuned to the needs of the electorate.

The return of Edgar Lungu may be a notable presence in Zambian politics, but the real challenge and opportunity lie within the UPND’s capacity to address internal inefficiencies and respond to the concerns of the people.

The Removal From Office Of The Registrar Of Society Is Last Nail In The Cofffin- Binwell Mpundu

THE REMOVAL FROM OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR OF SOCIETY IS LAST NAIL IN THE COFFFIN.

The PF got a court order to compel the Registrar of Society to print the List of Office Bearers of the PF.The Registrar had earlier on refused to print that list but had not choice after the court order.Within two hours of her printing the said list, she is removed from her office unceremoniously and her office searched.

I thought we had seen the worst but it looks like we are yet to see the worst and we need to brace for that..

But just how long shall we sit and watch illegalities being committed while we sip our coffee ,how long shall we sit quiet and watch the constitution being raped with impunity in all institutions of governance:

-At ECZ they stopped individuals who were eligible to stand for elections in Kabushi and Kwacha despite the court pronouncing itself and we clapped for them,

-They removed a very professional DPP (Lillian Siyuni) from office unceremoniously and again we clapped for them.

-The speaker sent home illegally some members of parliament whose seat were nullified at the high court after their opponents had petitioned then but had appealed to the constitutional court.Even when she knew it was illegal to do so again she interpreted the constitution and sent those MP’s away from parliament again we clapped or pretended not to care.

-The speaker removed leaders of the opposition unceremoniously in blantant disregard for the law,we again clapped.

-They appointed a disqualified Auditor general in total breach of the constitution again we pretended not to care .

-Today they have removed the Registrar of societies for acting on a court order and again we are clapping for them.

Dear Zambians..How long are we going to sit and watch these attrocities being committed while we sit and watch hopelessly and in some cases clap for them..How long are we going to sit and watch governance institutions being destroyed while we sit and watch helplessly??
Then you have NGOCC making such careless statements as “You touch one woman, you touch all of us”Yet they have been quiet when all these other women have been treated like foreigners for merely doing what is right.

The removal of the Registrar of societies from office is a confirmation that the UPND are the ones sponsoring the confusions in the PF no wonder they have been spending Tax payers money sending the police to guard individuals even when such individuals were committing wrongs and that they will no longer have any regard for the law despite every day preaching about the Rule of Law which only exists in their imaginations.

I never thought i would sit one day in my life and see my country crumble down like a cancer patient while i cannot do anything to stop it..

GOD I KNOW YOU ARE STILL HERE .PLEASE SHOW YOUR GREATNESS .GIVE US THE STRENGTH TO STAND UP AGAINST THESE WRONGS FOR HOW LONG CAN THEY GO ON WHILE WE WATCH HOPELESSLY..

Lungu group in shortlived celebrations

Lungu group in shortlived celebrations

AS THE all-villain PF cast continues to entertain the country to ceaseless and unscripted drama, the Edgar Lungu-led ensemble yesterday took to Facebook celebrating what they believed was a decisive blow to their Miles Sampa-led opponents in the ferocious battle for the control of the former ruling party.

The group’s reason of celebration was a document from the office of the Registrar of Societies purporting that former president Edgar Lungu was still appearing as an office bearer and president of the PF.

Armed with the document, lawyer of the Lungu group, Makebi Zulu quickly wrote to Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, demanding that she renounces PF Secretary General Morgan Ng’ona’s appointment of Mafinga Constituency member of parliament Robert Chabinga as leader of the Opposition and instead reinstate Mporokoso lawmaker Brian Mundubile.

Zulu said he was only giving the speaker 24 hours to comply to his demands or she will face him in court.

“Had you been diligent and truthful in the discharge of your duties, you would not have disregarded the communication to you by the Patriotic Front party, who stated in no uncertain terms that there had been no change of office bearers and that Mr Morgan Ng’ona was not the secretary general of the Patriotic Front party,” Zulu wrote.

The said documents showing Lungu and company as PF office bearers was then widely circulated by a handful but staunch sympathisers of the former president.

But as the Lungu group celebrated their “victory” Miles Sampa, Chabinga and Ng’ona were rolling on the ground with laughter, knowing too well that names of the PF office bearers had been changed on the morning of October 25, a day after their extraordinary general conference.

Added to that, observant eyes quickly cast doubt to the form after noticing that according to it, Lungu became PF president on February 17, 2002 while residing in a ministerial house on Lewanika Close in Lusaka’s Woodlands area.

The “unchanged” list of Lungu’s office bearers contrasted with the one submitted by Davies Mwila on April 17, 2021.

The pro-Lungu list office bearers even featured a name of a party member, Bernanddate Mvula, who died earlier than late president Micheal Sata whose death came in 2014.

Sources from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security dismissed the circulated document branding it a misrepresentation and a desperate attempt in the battle for the PF.

“The glaring errors are clear for anyone to see that it was done in a hurry without consideration for facts. It was meant to serve the interest of one group. That document is a fake,” a source from ministry of home affairs told Kalemba.

“At best, the document can be described as Mingalato gone wrong,” the source added.

On October 30, Chief Registrar of Societies Thadiwe Mhende wrote to Mutti revealing the names of new PF bearers submitted to her office following the October 24 extraordinary general conference.

“You may wish to note that the verification of the submissions and attachments has not yet been completed. However, find the list that was submitted as new Office Bearers for the Patriotic Front,” Mhende wrote to Mutti before listing 10 names including Sampa as president and Ng’ona as Secretary General.

But for her role in issuing the dubious document, Mhende has been removed as Registrar of Societies and handed over to Public Service Management Division PSMD for redeployment.

Since its loss of power in 2021, the PF has been plunged by infighting.

Two weeks ago, Lungu was forced to prematurely announce his return to politics after Sampa out-maneuvered Raphael Nakacinda and Given Lubinda whom he had been tasked to delay the PF convention and reserve the party presidency for him.

Although Sampa seems to be miles ahead of his once upon a time political comrades, his controversial election as PF president is being challenged and his opponents don’t seem to be giving up just as yet.

SPEAKER SUED IN THE CONCOURT

SPEAKER SUED IN THE CONCOURT

SPEAKER of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti has been sued in the Constitutional Court in connection with her decision to accept Robert Chabinga as leader of the opposition in Parliament on the Patriotic Front (PF) ticket.

The petition has been filed by the Institute of Law, Policy Research and Human Rights Ltd.

The organisation has cited Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha as first respondent while Ms Mutti is the second respondent in the matter.

Institute of Law, Policy Research and Human Rights Ltd seeks interpretation whether, pursuant to Article 74(2) of the Constitution of Zambia Act number 2 of 2016, a leader of the opposition is elected or appointed by the political party with the largest number of seats in the National Assembly itself as a political party.

Further, it seeks an interpretation, pursuant to Article 74(2) of the Constitution of Zambia Act number 2 of 2016 it is the individual MPs belonging to the opposition political party with the largest number of seats in the National Assembly that elect a leader of opposition.

It also seeks interpretation whether pursuant to Article 74 (2) of the Constitution of Zambia Act number 2 of 2016, an opposition political party with the largest number of seats in the National Assembly can elect an MP from another political party or from among independent MPs as leader of the opposition.

Institute of Law, Policy Research and Human Rights Ltd deputy executive director Jameson Kachimwa submits that, that in line with objectives of the organization, it developed interest in events that happened recently in the National Assembly.

Mr Kachimwa submits that the issues of concern border on the appointment of a leader of the opposition.

“On November 1, 2023, the Speaker announced Robert Chabinga as the new Leader of the opposition in the national assembly.

“The above said facts are matters that are in public domain and are facts that arise from carrying out public functions which this court can take judicial notice of,” he submits.

Mr Kachimwa submits that the first question is whether it is the opposition political party with the largest number of seats that elect a leader of the opposition as a party itself.

“Since the preceding questions emanate from article 74(2) of the Constitution of Zambia has jurisdiction to interpret the said provisions and address the questions raised herein,” he submits.

Mr Kachimwa the organisation believes that once the court provided an interpretation in line with its mandate and addresses the questions raised, the matter shall be settled and the same shall serve as a guidance for future appointments or election of a Leader of opposition in the National assembly.

UPND HAS MANAGED TO ACHIEVE MORE IN TWO YEARS THAN PF’s TEN YEARS – BISHOP KAZHILA

UPND HAS MANAGED TO ACHIEVE MORE IN TWO YEARS THAN PF’s TEN YEARS – BISHOP KAZHILA .

The United Party for National Development ( UPND) has managed to achieve more in two years than what the previous administration failed to attain in the 10 years they held office.

Life Gospel Fellowship Ministries, General Overseer Bishop Joseph Kazhila sad the UPND have achieved something which citizens need to recognize and appreciate as they applaud the infrastructure development built by the Patriotic Front (PF) government.

The Clergyman says it is unfair for anyone to conclude that the United Party for National Development (UPND) Administration has under performed in the two years it has been in power.

”The UPND had performed highly and managed to save the nearly collapsing economy it inherited from the Patriotic Front (PF),” Bishop Kazhila said.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Falcon News in Lusaka, Bishop Kazhila explains that, the UPND are not God to say and and fulfill everything they promised because nature is bound to unforeseen circumstances which change the outcome of situations , with reference to the current Russia – Ukraine War and the the Israel- Hamas War .

The Man of God echoes that, no one expected the ongoing wars which has affected the Whole World including Bigger Powers , Africa and Zambia is not an exception . And this being the case he is optimistic that Zambians think twice to re-correct , reconnect and do what is right by giving praise where it is due .

Bishop Kazhila narrates that, the UPND government can not fullfil all their campaign promises but it fair to recognize that they have achieved something by creating Massive employment opportunities in the Education and Health Sector , the return of bursary loans for students , the free education system , the negotiation of the huge debt cancellation which plunged the country in poverty , the brutality of carderism which is the thing of the past , among other on going developments .

The Bishop disclosed that , going around the world , there is a global phenomena where alot of countries are complaining of raising pricing of commodities because of the intertwined nature of the Wars and as such it is important for people to trust in governance system of God , the Almighty who has the abilities to make and fullfil all promises .

The General Overseer narrates that , Zambia is at the receiving end of the global crisis which is hitting World Super Powers like the United States of America (USA) , Europe , China , Russia , Israel among others , as one of the factors which is contributing to prices of commodities around the World to raise .

He is further advising his fellow Zambians to respect national political Leaders in the ruling party and those in the opposition , those in society and as well as those in the Church .

Bishop Kazhila bemoans the trending growing culture where people are taking to social media and start abusing their freedoms of expression by insulting Leaders , something which is not a human right as he warns that God will catch up with such individuals who must learn that insulting does not bring Development .

ZAMMSA HAS NOT DISTRIBUTED ANY DEFECTIVE MEDICINES

PRESS STATEMENT:

ZAMMSA HAS NOT DISTRIBUTED ANY DEFECTIVE MEDICINES

Lusaka, 13th November 2023 – The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) would like to correct the distortion circulating in some sections of the media where it is being alleged that we have distributed defective erythromycin to the public health facilities across the country.

Contrary to this reports, the medicine in question, Erythromycin, which is one of the 58 products contained in the recently procured Health Centre Kits supplied by Missionpharma to ZAMMSA, has been effectively quarantined awaiting further tests and investigations.

Facts of the matter are that on the 30th of September, 2023, ZAMMSA received a consignment of 7050 Health Centre kits supplied by Missionpharma. This was the second consignment from the 42,000 Health Centre kits to be supplied by Missionpharma to the Ministry of Health through ZAMMSA. As per standard operating procedure, the health center kits were submitted to the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) National Drug Quality Control Laboratory (NDQCL) for compliance and pre distribution testing.

On the 25th of October 2023, ZAMRA shared results that indicated that Erythromycin Stearate Tablets BP 250mg Batch No. TK293 was found non-compliant with respect to the dissolution test conducted. ZAMMSA immediately informed the supplier Missionpharma on this development and it was agreed on a third-party independent laboratory to be used for retesting of samples from batch TL293.

The Research Institute of Industrial Pharmacy (RIIP) at the Centre for the Quality Assurance of Medicines (CENQAM) in South Africa, a WHO pre-qualified lab, has since been nominated to conduct the third tests.

Out of the 7050 kits, 983 were found to have compliant erythromycin in them. To ensure that we have no delays in the subsequent distribution of medicines in the country, it was resolved as resolved that the non-compliant product, Erythromycin, be removed from the remaining 6,067 kits. This was with the aim of not further delaying the distribution and significantly impact the availability of commodities at Health Facilities countrywide.

This exercise has since commenced and the kits are being distributed without the non-compliant. Missionpharma has also sent a representative to witness and supervise the initial process of removal of erythromycin from the Health Centre kits for a period of one week and thereafter handover.
It is important to note that all the removed Erythromycins are being kept under kept under quarantine. In the event that the test results for the remaining batches meet the standard, the product will be distributed as per kit allocation.

The results from the third party-testing will determine the next course of action guided by the terms and conditions in the contract. The general publics should know that ZAMMSA is doing everything by the book and in accordance with standard operating procedures.

There is no need to panic. The results will be shared with the public once they are conclusive. The Government through the Ministry of Health and ZAMMSA is committed to ensuring the safety of all medicines and medical supplies.

This whole episode is credence that systems ensuring that we have quality, safe and efficacious medicines are working in Zambia.

FRED SHOULD STOP INSULTING POOR PARENTS BENEFITING FROM FREE EDUCATION- Mark Simuuwe

0

FRED SHOULD STOP INSULTING POOR PARENTS BENEFITING FROM FREE EDUCATION. IF HE CAN AFFORD EXPENSIVE SCHOOLS , NOT EVERY ZAMBIAN PARENT AFFORDS. I SAID IT THAT THE ONLY THING HE CAN MANAGE IS PROPAGANDA , WHICH BASICALLY MEANS LIES; NOT INTELLECTUAL DEBATES .

By Mark Simuuwe

See the Propaganda I was talking about yesterday ; I saw Fred M’membe , in his latest article cheating poor parents who are not paying school fees and examination fees that there is no free education.

A clear lack of intellectual debates , lacks in his writings as I indicated in my earlier article . Check countries like Germany offering free education if they are buying uniforms and books , yet it is free education.Even Cuba and Venzuela which are socialists are not doing what M’membe is writing about in the article.

Check Norway and Sweden if they are buying books and uniforms. M’membe is a clown. This is a serious embarrassment to the opposition. China only has free education from primary school to grade 9 only for rural areas .

He should also find out why government has increased the school feeding programme in rural areas under Ministry of Community Development . Am sure M’membe is blank and does not know .

He says pupils and students can’t go to class when they are hungry due to expensive mealie meal ; this view is similar to the PF view and I want to ask what logic was there in the PF scrapping off meal allowances if they knew that students needed to eat, especially that Mealie meal was already expensive from k37 to k280. This is how propagandists reason . Their reasoning is lopsided and they do not check their past programmes .

Since M’membe supported PF policies, has he imagined what students , who now have meal allowances which him and his counterparts scrapped off , could have been eating ?

Secondly, Fred has no manifesto – he wants to copy the UPND free education policy just like PF attempted to do , especially after he heard that government was contemplating taking it to tertiary institutions, during the budget presentation for 2023 .

I am not surprised because that is what PF attempted to do when they took over power ; they said they were introducing free education up to grade 7 . M’membe was one of them before they were flashed out together with Kabimba . Can he tell the nation if they were buying uniforms and books for pupils. Lies have short legs and this is what I was talking about . The Post Newspaper covered this education policy adjustment and called it free education.

M’membe is one of the people who drafted the PF manifesto and you can clearly see what M’M’membe and his friends ended up doing to the economy. When PF won elections at the time of Sata, the first thing M’membe did was to rush to get contracts in the mines which are run by capitalists; he had trucks there . Then later called himself a socialist after making money from the capitalists in the mines .

The biggest sponsors of the Post Newspaper, Sangwapo advertisement page were the private companies , who are the capitalists. Then in order for him to get funding from proponents of socialism, he calls himself a socialist today and begins cheating young ones who do not know how he got where he is himself .

Some poor youths are not asking him why he cannot let them also make money the way he did before talking about socialism. He had to become a capitalist for him to make money . What am I trying to say here ; what am saying is he talks of government running companies or Nationalizing Companies but he is not telling youths that if government did that at his time , he wasn’t going to make money through the Post Newspaper and mines; as Newspapers were going to be state owned . He had to run a capitalist company in order to make money . All private companies are after maximizing profits . They are capitalists . Unfortunately, Fred can’t tell his poor youths who do not know this .

China is now undergoing reforms and they have introduced an opening -up policy for Foreign Direct investment – moving towards the market economy ; starting with Shenzhen and Shanghai as key FDI provinces . And these provinces have so far proved to them to be the way to go . This is part of what am studying here . Their argument is that they had to nationalize before opening up . And for them this is working .

Back to free education ; It is difficult to tell a parent in the village who is a farmer that there is no free education simply because mealie meal is expensive and that government is not buying uniforms and books . Which parent can listen to you ? This is why voters are doubting their messages whenever we have elections.

Fred should know that many parents do not have the money that he has and when they are told that they will not pay anything for their children ‘s school apart from buying uniforms and books for their children, he does not know the level of excitement among parents .

For avoidance of doubt , Fred should know that when UPND took over leadership, the pupils who accessed education on aggregate was only between 5million to 6million but immediately free education was brought , the number immediately and sharply went up and the aggregate this year stands at 10million .

This is why some pupils went to sit on the floor in some schools because initially they were kept away from school . What that means is that over 4million parents had no capacity to pay school fees and Fred should stop mocking these parents through his propaganda.

Today , there is an influx of pupils in schools who were not going to school because parents could not afford .

It is the same Fred who said free education was a hoax before the elections . He said UPND had no capacity to provide free education.

Thank UPND , because we came with a framework for running the country based on research. So , along side free education, we are making desks locally using Zambian timber and this has also inspired hope for carpenters in Zambia ; they now have market . It is no longer government getting the contracts for timber but they are being given to citizens and this is also creating jobs .

Further , through CDF , as programmes on free education are well coordinated, classroom blocks are being built . Fred can’t see how structured our approach to education is .

In addition to that , we are employing teachers in big numbers every year which never used to happen.

When UPND came in , there were about 122,000 teachers across the country. Today teachers stand
at 150,000 in less than 2 years across the country. All these are well planned programme with a proper framework in place .

I am not sure whether Fred does his homework before he posts something .

Ndola woman allows hubby to marry second wife after being paid K50

FOR one K50 note handed to her by her beloved husband, a wife of Ndola gave the man of her dreams express permission to marry a second woman.

Mary Mumba, 39 told the local court in Ndola on the Copperbelt that she loved her husband so dearly that she had no problem with him marrying a second wife if that is what would bring him happiness.

According to a Zambia Daily Mail report, Mary married John Mushanga, 40, in 2013 after he paid K100 as dowry although she did not have any children with him.

Mary told the court that Mushanga had three children from his previous marriage but the oldest of them all, a girl had proved to be disrespectful and a stumbling block to a happy matrimony.

“I confronted my husband about it and when we sat down with his daughter, she told me that I was not her mother,” Mumba said.

She said she decided to leave the house because her husband did not take any action in disciplining his daughter.

“Later, he followed me with his bashi bukombe and told me that he had married another woman and gave me a K50 so that I can agree to be in a polygamous marriage,” she said and indicated that she had readily agreed.

But when given an opportunity to speak, Mushanga said he did not want anything to do with Mary and asked the court to end the marriage.

While looking at her as she if she was a plate of anthrax-infected beef, Mushanga said Mary was cruel to his children and had a habit of going to night clubs with her friends at odd hours.

Mushanga said he decided to take two of children to his sister’s place because Mumba was not keeping them well.

He said his wife used to insult him and refused to perform her duties such as shaving him and that he ended up doing the house chores himself.

Passing judgment, Senior Presiding Magistrate, John Kabwe granted divorce saying that the couple could not be forced to stay together when Mushanga had already made up his mind to divorce his wife.

The court also ordered Mushanga to compensate Mumba with K10,000 in monthly installments of K500.

US Senator Tim Scott withdraws from presidential race

0

US Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race.

His campaign aimed to make history by securing the Republican nomination, potentially making him the first African-American nominee from the party.

He told Fox News: “I think the voters, who are the most remarkable people on the planet, have been really clear that they’re telling me: ‘Not now, Tim.’”

Despite being well-funded, Tim Scott’s presidential campaign failed to gain significant traction in opinion polls. He has not thrown his support behind any of the remaining candidates and has explicitly ruled out running for the vice-presidency.

“I’ll be honest with you: I ran for president to be president,” he told Fox host and personal friend Trey Gowdy in the interview on Sunday, saying being vice-president was not on his “to-do list”.

Republican Senator Tim Scott, who entered the presidential race in May, positioned himself as a deeply conservative candidate aiming to bridge political divides in the United States, differentiating himself from former President Donald Trump. His campaign centered on a positive message, vowing to reinvigorate the American ethos of greatness and highlighting his personal narrative as a realization of the American dream.

The 58-year-old, the grandson of a Southern cotton field laborer, spoke of his upbringing by a single mother and the generational rise from cotton fields to Congress within his family.

Despite this optimistic vision, his withdrawal from the presidential campaign followed the third debate in Miami. In these debates, he struggled to stand out among other candidates, failing to resonate with voters. His chances of qualifying for the upcoming Republican debate on December 6 seemed uncertain.

As Mr. Trump maintained a commanding lead over other Republican contenders, he chose not to partake in the televised debates, further altering the dynamics of the Republican race.

The decision to suspend his campaign came unexpectedly for many of Scott’s team members, as reported by the BBC’s US media partner CBS.

Mr. Scott’s departure marks the second high-profile exit from the crowded 2024 US presidential race. Former Vice-President Mike Pence, aged 64, withdrew from the race in late October after encountering difficulties in securing Republican voters’ support.

Mr. Scott’s decision to exit the race comes just two months before the start of the presidential primary season in Iowa. A recent CBS News/YouGov poll indicated that he only had the support of 4% of voters, placing him in fifth place in the Republican race and trailing behind Mr. Trump.

Several major donors who had previously supported Mr. Scott, a US senator since 2013, have now shifted their allegiance to former US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, who hails from South Carolina as well.

In a Sunday night post on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, Ms Haley called Mr Scott “a good man of faith and an inspiration to so many”.

“The Republican primary was made better by his participation in it.”

Donald Trump’s older sister dies at age 86

0

Maryanne Trump Barry, elder sister of former President Donald Trump, passed away on Monday morning at the age of 86 in her Upper East Side residence in Manhattan. The cause of her death remains unknown as reported by the New York Times.

There has been no immediate response from Trump’s representative regarding this sad news.

Notably, Barry was recorded secretly criticizing her brother by her niece, Mary L. Trump, despite being a prominent supporter of Donald Trump’s business and political endeavors. She retired in February 2019 amid an investigation into alleged tax fraud related to her father’s real estate empire.

Barry’s legal career, which spanned many years, began in 1974 when she became an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey. She was one of the two women in the office at that time. Her ascent continued when President Ronald Reagan nominated her to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey in 1983.

Further recognition came when President Bill Clinton appointed her to the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1999. Barry notably stood against an Immigration Court judge in a 2006 case, calling out what she deemed as “bullying” against an African refugee seeking asylum after losing several relatives in a coup.

Barry’s stance on immigration often differed from that of her brother, which was made evident in the secret recording where she criticized Trump’s immigration policies, particularly regarding the separation of children from their parents at the border.

She consistently advocated for a more compassionate approach to immigration, setting her apart from her younger brother in the public eye.

“All he wants to do is appeal to his base,” Barry told her niece. “He has no principles. None. None. And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people. Not do this.”

Donald Trump with sister Maryanne Trump Barry and brother Robert Trump attend the Trump Taj Mahal opening April 1990 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The former president appeared to downplay the remarks, as their opposing viewpoints on the matter were previously acknowledged. Before Maryanne Trump Barry’s comments became public, both siblings were entangled in a New York Times investigation concerning their inheritance. Barry, a former judge, was accused of violating judicial conduct by collaborating with her siblings to assess their tax responsibilities.

The investigation into these allegations led to Barry’s retirement in 2019, effectively concluding the probe.

A month after opening up about his divorce, Jeezy reveals babysitter molested him as a child

0

n a recent YouTube video titled “I Might Forgive… But I Don’t Forget,” rapper Jeezy, born Jay Wayne Jenkins, opened up about a traumatic experience from his childhood. The 46-year-old artiste revealed that he was molested by a female babysitter, leading him to rely on his faith and religious upbringing to cope with the emotional impact.

The disclosure occurred during a conversation with actress Nia Long, shedding light on the rapper’s struggles and the role of spirituality in his healing process.

The musician recounted his troubling childhood experience, revealing that his older nanny engaged in inappropriate actions, including unwarranted touching, which he described as events outside the typical experiences for children, according to the Daily Mail.

Rapper Jeezy, who filed for divorce from his estranged wife Jeannie May in September, confirmed when directly asked by Long if he had experienced molestation. “Right, basically,” he said.

According to him, he was initiated into a sexual relationship at a tender age. He claimed that aside from this traumatic experience, he saw his friend’s father shoot his wife multiple times during a playdate.

He explained that those images impacted his mental health for a long time and by the age of eight, he thought those images were normal. He indicated that this informed his behavior of wanting to protect himself because he lacked trust in systems and the people.

Rapper Jeezy disclosed that he left home at the age of 13, alleging that his mother had pulled a gun on him during an argument. These revelations surfaced just a month after he spoke out about his ongoing divorce.

He announced the end of his marriage with a statement explaining that the decision was not impulsive and was made with a heavy heart. He also expressed a kind sentiment towards his ex-wife Jeannie, who had denied rumors of an affair with Mario Lopez shortly after Jeezy filed for divorce.

He expressed enduring love and respect for his ex-wife Jeannie despite their separation, reminiscing over the cherished moments they shared. He pledged their commitment to providing love and stability for their one-year-old daughter, Monaco, born in January 2022.

Ex UK Prime Minister Bounces back as Foreign Affairs Minister

…on the heels of PM Rushi Sunak sacking Home Minister Suella Braverman.

Amb. Anthony Mukwita

I am having a hard time trying to catch up with the fast-train called international ‘news´ as I flip news channels between the war in Ukraine and Russia and now the elephant in the room, the war on Gaza by Israel—the Prime Minister of the UK Rishi Sunak has brought back into government Lord David Cameron as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Cameron come back has been described as a milestone in contemporary British political history that has got bookmakers even thinking he could have an ambition to come back eventually as PM after he lost the BREXIT vote in 2016 through a referendum.

Some conservative analysts feel its going to be hard for the former PM, the once upon a time most powerful man in the island kingdom to serve now under a PM 15 years his junior in years and perhaps even experience. Lord Cameron replaces James Cleverly who goes to replace the sacked Braverman at the Home Ministry.

Suella Braverman, the former Home Secretary it appears had to go after she passed some ´anti Palestinian demonstration´ statements in an editorial following a march by more than 120, 000 people in London marching on Downing Streer in support of Palestinians against the war that has killed up to 11,200 Palestinians by Israel, half of them, children.

While serving the UK as PM, Cameron publicly spoke for an autonomous Gaza state but he is also known for his unwavering support for Israel.

This is an interesting geopolitical story to watch, as Cameron is also known for close ties with the U.S in what is historically called ´the special relationship. ´
This is the first time in Britain a PM is coming back in 50 years, albeit it’s happened before.

Some ask, did Sunak make the right decision or a decision that could in fact see him lose power to the former PM, now a Lord in future, questions abound. The story of the camel and the rider in a tent?

Which good wife asks for a car when her husband is sick” Netizens react as Mr Ibu’s wife and daughter, Jasmine clash again
Following the news of a drama between Nollywood actor, Mr Ibu’s wife, Stella Maris, and his adopted daughter, Jasmine Okafor over his donation, netizens have weighed into it.
We reported days back that Jasmine and Stella were at war over the donation the ailing actor has been receiving.

According to Gistlover, his wife wants to take over the donation money to fund her lavish lifestyle as she is always talking about buying an iPhone 15 and new cars.

The blog also claimed that Mr Ibu’s wife had used her account to get N1 million from the donation.

Now reacting to it, Stella Maris alleged that Jasmine was trying to make her an outsider in her marriage. Describing her statement as malicious, she vowed to address Jasmine’s excessive interference in her family affairs and other related matters.

Her statement has left many dragging her as they questioned what a good wife demands for a car when her husband is in a sick bed.

One Aphrodite Zee wrote, “Why talk about a car in the first place when your husband is sick? Is that a priority?

One Mees Rammy wrote, “This lady isn’t a serious person she’s always fighting because of money she will use for her luxurious life. She’s even talking about her on her page that she will be using for hospital runs

One Grace Luv wrote, “Which good wife will ask for a car during her husband’s trying time? Imagine the talk. Shame

One Tiwa Tade wrote, “Lol. You stylishly mentioned that they buy you a car from your husband’s health donations because taking public transport is stressful. That’s disgraceful

One Nony 4 Real wrote, “This is the type of thing that kills a man so quickly. When you are alive but on a sick bed and hear your family quarrel about money instead of what to do and get you out of sick bed.

One Princess Is Royalty wrote, “You said you wanted to concentrate on your husband yet you wrote all these! What else is there to say again?

One Mena Doros wrote, “Jasmine is the reason Mr Ibu is still getting proper treatment and awareness. If you leave him for this wife, Hmmmm

One Sassy Official wrote, “Jasmine a stranger? Someone who has been the one shouldering the whole bill until it was too much for her to handle

One Ozee Vip wrote, “So people who donated are not total strangers or what. Why calm Jasmine total stranger? You are an ungrateful heart, Madam

One Uz Ogbu wrote, “Does it mean Mr Ibu doesn’t have any cars? You want a car from the donation made to save your husband’s life when he is still lying critically in the hospital. People can be selfish too”.

One Lady que wrote, “But why will Jasmine who is not a member of the family keep the statement of account from the wife?

This drama is coming less than a year after they made headlines for publicly clashing over his property.

PRINT-OUT AT REGISTRAR OF SOCIETIES RELEASED BY ORDER OF COURT SHOW NO CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE SO FAR TO PF OFFICE BEARERS

NELLY MUTTI GIVEN 24HRS TO REVERSE CHANGES MADE IN PARLIAMENT AS THEY WERE MADE ILLEGALLY

…In view of this information, your actions in acknowledging the letter from Mr. Morgan Ngona were a nullity and should be abandoned forthwith…

Lusaka-13th November, 2023

Lawyers for the Patriotic Front(PF) have demanded that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms. Nelly Mutti reverses immediately, the changes she made to the leadership in Parliament.

Makebi Zulu Advocates stated that the action by the Speaker was extremely malicious as no changes have been effected to the list of Office Bearers at the Registrar of Societies.

By order of the Lusaka High Court, the Registrar of Societies has released the current status of Office Bearers of the Patriotic Front.

As at today, the 13th November 2023, the Office Bearers have not changed as per attached copy.

“Had you been diligent and truthful in the discharge of your duties, you would not have disregarded the communication to you by the Patriotic front party, who stated in no uncertain terms that there had been no change of office bearers and that Mr. Morgan Ngona was NOT the secretary general of the party.”

During the sitting of Parliament and subsequent communication, Ms. Mutti claimed that she conducted a search at the Registrar of Societies which formed basis of her changes at Parliament.

In light of the official information at the Registrar of Socities, Ms. Mutti has been advised to abandon the changes she made and reverse them.immediately as they were illegal and malicious.

The lawyers have given her 24hrs to do so.
On 1st of November, Ms Mutti replaced leader of Opposition, Hon. Brian Mundubile with Mafinga MP, Robert Chawinga on the pretext that she received a letter of instructions from a Mr. Morgan Ngona.

She also replaced Stephen Kampyongo as Opposition Whip with Kantanshi MP, Anthony Chanda Mumba.

Below is the Demand Letter written to Spealer of the National Assembly.

RE: DEMAND NOTICE BEFORE COURT ACTION

We have been retained by the Patriotic Front Party.

Kindly note our interest.

Reference is made to the above captioned and your address to the National Assembly where you purported to replace Hon. Brian Mundubile, as Leader of the Opposition with
Hon.Robert Chabinga.

In your address to the House on the 1st November 2023, and media briefing signed
by the Clerk of the National Assembly dated the 7th November 2023, you deliberately and or negligently misled the House and the Nation at large, by maliciously and
mischievously suggesting that your search at the Registrar of Societies revealed that there had been a change of Office Bearers.

Had you been diligent and truthful in the discharge of your duties, you would not have disregarded the communication to you by the Patriotic Front party, who stated in no uncertain terms that there had been no change of office bearers and that Mr. Morgan Ngona was NOT the secretary general of the Patriotic Front party.

Especially that this was communicated to you way before you announced the change in parliament, thus making your announcement malicious, unreasonable and illegal.

Our diligent inquiry, by an order of the Court, has reviewed that as of today the 13th November 2023, the office bearers have not changed as per the attached copy.

In view of this information, your actions in acknowledging the letter from Mr. Morgan Ngona were a nullity and should be abandoned forthwith.

THE FREE EDUCATION LIE, DECEPTION- Fred M’membe

THE FREE EDUCATION LIE, DECEPTION

The importance of free education needs neither theoretical nor political discussion. The right to education has been recognised as a human right in a number of international conventions, including the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which recognises a right to free, primary education for all, an obligation to develop secondary education accessible to all with the progressive introduction of free secondary education, as well as an obligation to develop equitable access to higher education, ideally by the progressive introduction of free higher education.

And free education must be free education. Things must be called by their right names. What resembles free education may not necessarily be free education and as such it shouldn’t be called free education – it should be called by its right name.
What Mr Hakainde Hichilema has been calling free education is really not free education as such – it is something else, something that may resemble free education but is not.
Let’s try to closely examine Mr Hichilema’s free education:

  1. FUNDING: Providing free education to citizens requires significant financial resources. Schools are underfunded and are barely surviving. For instance, there is no free education for pupils in the boarding schools. Instead, the government has dictated that parents must pay K1,000 (one thousand kwacha) per child per term. This money goes towards the procurement of foodstuff for 90 days. Now, divide 90 days into K1,000. It gives you K11.11. Divide this K11.11 into three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). It gives you K3.70. What kind of meal can one buy for K3.70? How are head teachers in boarding schools managing things? They have removed fish, beef, and chicken from the menu. Children are eating soya chunks and cabbage.
The government only sends K200 (two hundred kwacha) to all secondary schools (both boarding and day) per child per term, to cater for teaching and learning materials, maintenance of infrastructure, administrative issues, allowances for staff, orphan and vulnerable children, and co-curricular activities. So a basic school in a rural area, which has 80 pupils in grades 8 and 9, receives no more than K16,000 (sixteen thousand kwacha) per term. These meagre amounts sent to schools have terms and conditions, just like the IMF. A percentage meant for the maintenance of infrastructure, for example, cannot be used for the procurement of foodstuff, even in the event that the school has run out of food. That would constitute a misapplication of funds. Head teachers are struggling a lot, and most of them have developed hypertension under Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s government.
  2. INFRASTRUCTURE AND RESOURCES: Mr Hichilema’s government has only introduced so-called free education to learners in day schools from grades 8 to 12. This has created a challenge of inadequate infrastructure and limited educational resources, such as textbooks, digital technologies, and school facilities. Expanding free education while ensuring quality requires substantial investment in infrastructure development and resource allocation. The haphazard CDF arrangement is not helping in any way as regards infrastructure development in education. This situation calls for a massive construction of schools across the country.
  3. TEACHER SHORTAGE AND QUALITY: Recruiting and retaining qualified teachers is essential for the success of free education. The employment of 30,496 in 2022 was a very good effort. However, simple research has shown that many teachers who were posted in rural areas have started going back to urban areas through transfers based on political connections. Schools in remote areas are still lacking teachers, compromising free education.
  4. EQUITY AND ACCESS: Although free education aims to promote equitable access, there are disparities in accessing education, particularly in remote or marginalised areas. Ensuring that all children have equal opportunities requires addressing barriers, such as distance, gender disparities, and cultural factors that may inhibit access to education.
  5. EFFECTS OF THE RISING COST OF LIVING: Before Mr Hichilema’s so-called free education, parents in rural areas were paying K150 per term, while those in urban areas were paying K200 per term per child. In addition, the government was sending schools grants every term. Whatever benefits could have accrued from the removal of the K150 and K250 school fees per term have completely been eroded by the increasing cost of living – the high cost of mealie-meal, relish, and transport prices.
  6. PROPAGANDA: The dissemination of biased and misleading information in order to shape public opinion by Mr Hichilema’s government has really destroyed education.

Taken at face value, one would think Zambia was doing very well in the education sector. But frankly speaking, the fake free education has destroyed the little quality that remained before Mr Hichilema took office. The government does not talk about things that matter most, such as literacy levels, learner performance, skills development, teacher motivation, and so on. It is busy manipulating and controlling public opinion by presenting selective information. Creating a biased narrative that aims to persuade people in favour of its policy of fake free education won’t do. The government paints a picture as though it introduced free education for the first time in Zambia. It portrays to the public like it is spending a lot of money on free education. This is a lie, a deception; and by 2026, Zambia’s education will be of very low quality and useless.

Actor Charles Inojie Recounts Humorous Moments During Visit To Mr Ibu’s Ward

Renowned actor and producer, Charles Inojie, on Monday, recounted his visit to his colleague, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who is currently recuperating after undergoing seven surgeries, including the amputation of one of his legs.

In an account titled ‘MR IBU… THE INDOMITABLE HUMORIST!, Inojie shared the lively and humorous atmosphere he encountered during his visit, despite Mr Ibu’s challenging health condition.

Describing the moment, Inojie wrote, “I never thought I could ever be able to relate this chapter of my encounter with Mr Ibu on his sick bed because I had this funny feeling that it had the potential of making light of a very dire situation as his condition presented.”

He continued to share the banter exchanged between them, highlighting Mr Ibu’s indomitable spirit and ability to maintain humour even in the face of adversity.

“I walked into his private ward in the ICU in the company of Chinyere Wilfred at whose behest we made the journey to Ever Care where he is being treated. We had just finished from a set, and she suggested that we take the opportunity to visit Ibu. With us were Jasmine, Mrs Ibu, and a woman I believe is her friend,” Inojie wrote.

He added, “From one joke to the other, Ibu literally entertained us. For a moment, I peered into his eyes as if searching for the secret of his willpower, and again, he levelled me out.
“IBU: ‘You dey pity for me? No fear, the doctor say I go fit still use the leg later, even though some betta-betta meat don commot for the leg.’

“You could never stop wondering where he got the strength under such agonising pain to exude such positive energy so effortlessly.
Then came the moment. I picked his hands from his sides and held them tightly as I muttered, ‘Let’s pray.’

“We gazed intently at each other and connected on the fading highways of nostalgia, and upon the instance, I felt a mad rush of hot tears welling up beneath my quivering eyelids. I quickly turned away for fear my animal weakness was threatening to have the better of me, but too late. Ibu was crying, too!”

Sharing the lesson he learnt from the visit, Inojie added, “I left his ward with one of life’s vital lessons running through my mind… Whoever can muster the willpower to survive in the face of anguish and life-threatening pain can defeat death even in the most fiercesome battle. May God Almighty grant Ibu a speedy recovery.”

Julius Malema: Why the South African politician touched a nerve in Kenya

On 9 November, two men stood before Kenyans to deliver long-awaited speeches, separated by just a few hours and a few kilometres.

They were both live on television.

Both men are sworn pan-Africanists and both were after the hearts of a nation weighed down by heavy economic burdens.

But that’s where the similarities ended.

One man, President William Ruto, wore a formal blue suit.

The other man, South African opposition leader Julius Malema, was clad in a black safari suit, with his customary red beret perched on his head.

While the president’s State of the Nation Address delivered amid pomp and ceremony in parliament was received with sombre and weary looks, every other sentence of Mr. Malema’s explosive speech was met with wild cheers from his audience during the launch of the Pan-African Institute at a Kenyan university.

Since that day, the two men and their speeches have been the centre of much comparison and plenty of lively debate in Kenya. Mr Malema’s speech was rebroadcast by a number of Kenyan digital channels and clips of it were shared widely on WhatsApp.

Mr Malema’s decision to attack President Ruto on a number of issues, including a failure to deliver on his election promises, hit the spot with many Kenyans.

The South African firebrand also condemned Mr Ruto for not challenging King Charles on colonialism during his recent visit to Kenya, as well as his support for Israel in the current conflict with Hamas.

Media analyst Elvis Ndekwe says that to understand why Kenyans embraced a leader who broke a common African etiquette that dictates a visitor should not speak ill of his host, you have to go back to the events of March this year.

“This was the day angry citizens from four African countries took to the streets in simultaneous demonstrations, to fight the high cost of living. The protests in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and Tunisia were led by opposition leaders, including Julius Malema.”

Mr Ndekwe adds that Kenya was already experiencing periodic demonstrations led by opposition leader Raila Odinga, protesting against what he felt was a stolen 2022 election.

“Many Kenyans, especially the younger generation, identified with Julius Malema who was fighting a cause similar to their own. They saw it as a show of solidarity against oppressive or insensitive regimes.”

Prof PLO Lumumba, chair of the new Pan-African Institute that invited Mr Malema to Kenya, echoes Mr Ndekwe’s argument.

“Malema represents a younger generation of Africans who are now beginning to articulate Pan-African issues in a manner that appeals to critical masses,” he told the BBC.

“Remember, this is a very young continent,” he said, adding that Africa needed a younger generation of leaders.

Although Mr Ruto, 58, campaigned last year as the candidate of the next generation against 78-year-old opposition leader Raila Odinga, at 42 Mr Malema is better placed to articulate the concerns of that large cohort of young voters.

But even before the four-country demonstrations in March, Mr Malema was a well-known figure with a sizeable following in Kenya, mainly arising from his heated contributions in the South African parliament, where his Economic Freedom Fighters are known for wearing red overalls, giving fiery speeches and occasionally disrupting proceedings.

Compilations of his comments in parliament are popular and have been doing the rounds in Kenya. In the comments section of one such video last year, one person wrote: “Still can’t get enough of Hon Malema……love you ambassador of pure truth… LOVE FROM KENYA.”

So, when Mr Malema landed in Kenya, he found an audience in waiting.

Mr. Ndekwe says that Mr Malema represents a challenge not just for President Ruto but also for his rivals.

“For some Kenyans, Malema symbolises the opposition leader they do not have and many make comparisons with Raila Odinga. Malema is young, energetic, bold, and fearless. He speaks his mind even though it may annoy others. The young people don’t see these qualities in Raila.”

“When the president’s State of the Nation Address merely repeated the same promises the government has made before, no one questioned it,” agrees one senior editor in Kenya who did not want to use his name.

“Malema gave an alternative voice, castigating the government. It’s a welcome break from the usual talk.”

Unsurprisingly, Kenya’s government has reacted angrily to Mr Malema’s comments and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has given him this advice: “We’d like to appeal to visitors to respect the leaders of their host countries. We travel overseas and we don’t insult the leaders of those countries. We don’t interfere with their politics.

“This man who came here is all-knowing. By the afternoon he seemed to know more about Kenya than us. I visited his own country in December and they ration electricity for seven hours, yet we don’t discuss this because we respect them.”

The government is not alone in its reaction. Many ordinary Kenyans have found his comments distasteful, saying a foreigner should not teach them how to run their affairs. Others felt offended with his decision to give his critical speech on the same day as the president’s State of the Nation Address.

Given the many feathers he’s ruffled in one short visit, why did the organisers of the new Pan-African Institute invite Mr. Malema to Kenya?

“The choice was defined by some fundamental things,” said Prof Lumumba, a well-known and deeply passionate Pan-Africanist.

“One is that Malema has spoken and continues to speak boldly about issues that concern the continent of Africa, including unhindered trade in Africa, free movement of people within Africa, and having Africans take charge of their affairs.

“Malema in South Africa also represents a generation that is saying: ‘Even when you say we have killed apartheid, apartheid is still alive and well’. And that to me resonates with us. He is also courageous and says these things without fear of consequences. Many of us mince our words because we fear the consequences.”

So why does Prof Lumumba think that so many Kenyans embraced Mr Malema?

“There is a silent, critical majority of Kenyans who feel let down by what is happening and what has been happening in the Kenyan political arena because Kenyans in the public arena are generally hypocritical. They don’t say what they mean. So there is a sense in which Malema as a visitor came and said the things that we want to say, but we don’t want to say them.”

And what did Malema himself make of his visit? He told Prof Lumumba: “I am very happy that I have a group of Kenyans and by extension, Africans, who are beginning to embrace the agenda of Africa and doing it for themselves and beginning to recognise that ultimate decolonisation, ultimate freedom is economic freedom.”

Despite many Kenyans’ embrace of Mr Malema, back home in South Africa, he’s a controversial figure who has faced accusations of stirring racial tensions.

He has been repeatedly accused of hate speech, and opinion polls show his EFF trailing a distant third nationwide, with the support of about 13% of voters.

With the man in the red beret having left Kenya, the blue-suited president has the tough task of winning back those looking for solutions to their economic and political problems from without, instead of from within.

Kenyans get tree-planting holiday to plant 100 million seedlings

0

Kenyans have been given a special holiday to plant 100 million trees as part of the government’s goal to plant 15 billion trees in 10 years.

The holiday allows “each and every Kenyan to own the initiative”, according to Environment Minister Soipan Tuya.

Each Kenyan is being encouraged to plant at least two seedlings, leading to the 100-million target.

About 150 million seedlings have been made available in public nurseries.

The government will be providing the seedlings for free at its forest agency centres for Kenyans to plant in designated public areas.

But it has also encouraged Kenyans to buy at least two seedlings to plant on their own land.

President William Ruto is leading the exercise in Makueni in the east of the country. Cabinet ministers have been sent to other regions to lead the process alongside county governors.

The tree planting will be monitored through an internet app, which monitors the exercise by allowing individuals and organisations to record activities, including the plant species, number, and date planted.

The Jaza Miti app will also help people plant the appropriate seedlings by matching the site with the appropriate species, according to the Environment Ministry.

Ms Tuya told local Citizen TV on Sunday night that the response had been “amazing” and there had already been two million registrations on the app by Sunday.

She however said the planting would not happen in the north-eastern region, where there have been floods.

The country is currently grappling with heavy El Niño rains that have killed dozens of people, displaced thousands, and damaged infrastructure – with the northern region most affected.

Kenyans have broadly welcomed the tree-planting initiative while also noting some challenges.

Environmentalist Teresa Muthoni told the BBC that the initiative was a “very good idea”, but that the exercise was not organised in a way that would ensure everyone was out there planting trees.

She said, “Many people have to continue with their work to put food on the table… it is coming at a time when our economy is not doing well so a lot of people are struggling financially”.

She also noted that “a lot of the 150 million trees available” in public nurseries were exotic. “It is very important to plant the right trees in the right place,” she said.

The government has also been criticised for championing tree planting while failing to tame illegal logging in public forests – it recently lifted a ban on logging.

But on Sunday, the minister defended the decision, saying only forests designed for commercial purposes were affected – about 5% of the total.

She said this was necessary to feed the local wood demand and create jobs, adding that the government was taking action against illegal loggers in other forests.

She said the initiative would help tackle food security and was also a “mitigation against climate change” to address the cyclical drought and floods in the country.

Ms. Tuya said the exercise will continue beyond the special holiday and expects that 500 million trees will have been planted by the end of the rainy season in December.

M23 go for Burundian troops in DRC clashes

Residents of Bambo in Rutshuru territory Eastern DRC flee as the M23 attacked the town
Burundian troops in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo are getting roped into the murk of M23 rebels who accuse them of working with enemies.

The accusations arose this week in a statement by M23 who say Burundians are collaborating with armed groups that formed out of remnants of the genocidaires in Rwanda who had fled into the DRC after the end of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

The accusations revisit an age-old tale of how Rwandan and Burundian armed groups have operated inside DRC.

The M23 rebels had been fighting with the Congolese army — FARDC — as well as an allied self-defence group known as Wazalendo. But roping in Burundi means the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) to which Burundian troops now serve may be up for a challenge.

“The DRC government coalition forces including FARDC, FDLR, mercenaries, militias and Burundi national defence forces have used the areas handed over to EAC to intensify their attack against the civilian population, burning villages, targeted killings, looting and destruction of properties,”reads the M23 statement issued on Tuesday.

Lawrence Kanyuka, the M23 Spokesperson, added that “the M23 is greatly concerned about the implication of an EAC chair state and ICGLR state member Burundi in violation of the ceasefire, which implies a planned conspiracy.”

Burundi rejected the assertions saying: “These slanderous assertions are a serious insult to the professionalism with which our troops carry out their missions wherever they are deployed.

“The FDNB (Burundi National Defence Force) unequivocally denies these malicious remarks made for ulterior motives. The Burundian military has never collaborated with any armed group and never intends to do so,” said Col Floribert Biyereke, spokesman for the Burundian army.

He said the accusations were made by ill-intentioned people.

“Despite the efforts made by the Burundian troops in the DRC, it is deplorable that certain ill-intentioned people, are making unfounded accusations that the Burundian troops which are deployed in North Kivu are collaborating with armed groups, training them and offering them weapons.”

Eastern DRC has over 100 armed groups, some splinters of initial groups. But there are foreign fighters too. The FDLR (known in French as Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda) for instance, is said to be an offshoot of Rwandan genocaidares. The M23 are of Rwandan ethnic communities in the DRC, which has been subject to perennial tensions between Rwanda and the DR Congo.

An earlier directive by regional leaders under the Luanda Process had agreed that all foreign fighters leave DRC and M23 surrender conquered territory in exchange for ceasefire and cantonment. Most of that has been violated. Kinshasa accuses Kigali of fomenting M23 violence while Kigali says DRC has refused to deal with the FDLR problem. Both sides deny charges levelled against them.

On Thursday November 9, the Burundian army spokesman issued a new statement claiming that the Burundian contingent had twice found itself in a conflict situation carrying supplies to Kitchanga and Mweso.

PF IS A STRONG ‘MOVEMENT’…. because it is people driven, says Hon Kampyongo

PF IS A STRONG ‘MOVEMENT’

…. because it is people driven, says Hon Kampyongo

Chinsali District… Sunday November 12, 2023 (SMART EAGLES)

Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament Hon Stephen Kampyongo says the former ruling party Patriotic Front is a ‘strong movement’ that cannot be killed easily.

Hon Kampyongo says the PF is a people driven party and that’s why it remains strong.

He says all the structures of the PF remain intact despite the sponsored confusion that has been brought in the party by Miles Sampa.

The former Home Affairs Minister said this when he and Chinsali Central MP Hon Kalalwe Mukosa featured on a special radio programme at Delight Kwitonta Radio station in Chinsali Sunday evening.

He said there is no single party in Zambia that has gone through a lot and remain strong saying it is anchored by the people who believe in its ideologies.

“PF is a people driven party and that’s why it is a movement. You are all aware of what is happening in our mighty party, but what encourages us leaders is that all the structures remain intact. You can tell that Miles Sampa is not working alone in this operation but they have seen that it will not help them because the people have remained royal to the party,” he said.

“I want to assure you that you have a leadership in place that will not allow these people to get our party. That’s why even President Edgar Chagwa Lungu came out of his retirement saying he would want to see the party that late President Michael Chilufya Sata left in his care. But we have some people who are very uncomfortable following his come back to active politics. The Alebwelelapo slogan is a nightmare to them.”

Hon Kampyongo said if the UPND administration had done well, they would not be uncomfortable with anyone knowing too well that the people of Zambia are still with them.

He said what they have done instead is messing up everything by subjecting the people to total suffering.

And Hon Mukosa accused the Speaker of National Assembly Nelly Mutti of using emotions in the way she manages the affairs of the House.

He said the biasness exhibited by the Speaker is a source of concern for most stakeholders.

He also said the MPs will not stop speaking for the people despite being suspended by madam Mutti.

He said institution of government should not be seen to be aiding any faction during interparty conflicts.

He stated that giving Miles Sampa state security is wrong on the part of the police.

NG’ONA WARNS RENTED PF MEMBERS BEING USED TO DENOUNCE MILES SAMPA

NG’ONA WARNS RENTED PF MEMBERS BEING USED TO DENOUNCE MILES SAMPA

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Secretary General Morgan Ng’ona has warned party members he says have put themselves up for rent to denonce the party’s elected president, Miles Sampa.

In a media statement this this afternoon, Ng’ona said with the last party elections being held in 2020, all structures stood dissolved
as per Articles 50, 55 and 58 subsections (a) of the former ruling’s party’s Constitution.

“Therefore, all those members parading themselves as leaders are doing so illegally and my advice them is; let them invest their energies in preparations to contest for positions in the coming party elections,” Ng’ona guided.

He sais the party’s rebranding process was in high gear and those who wanted to be part of the process were free to come on board while the door was still open.

In the rebranded PF, the President has made it very clear, there will be no old habits like ‘Akawawa’, Pangas, insults, harassments of people etc,” he warned.

Ng’ona said the Sampa-led PF were introducing a new way of doing politics to be based on love, respect co-existence with all stakeholders as they engaged in contestation of ideas.

“We aim to promote peace, tranquility and to bring fresh air in the political landscape of the Country we love.

We therefore invite all members who left for one reason or the other be it expelsion, suspension and first comers to politics to come and join the Party in rebranding,” he added.

Ng’ona also urged the rank and file of the PF to respect and heed the “wise counsel and guidance from all our religious leaders in the country”.

Since Sampa’s election as party president at a controversially-convened extraordinary general conference on October 24, some PF members rejected his presidency saying it was illegal.

Four days after Sampa’s election, former president Edgar Lungu announced his return to active politics saying he would resume his role as PF president.

But after his attempt to force himself in the PF secretariat in Lusaka as well as the effort to meet Inspector General or Police Graphel Musamba ended in public failure two weeks ago, Lungu has gone into hibernation and has not shown himself to the public again.

THE ERA OF PROPAGANDA IS GONE ; TECHNOLOGY HAS DESTROYED THE CONCEPT OF PROPAGANDA

THE ERA OF PROPAGANDA IS GONE ; TECHNOLOGY HAS DESTROYED THE CONCEPT OF PROPAGANDA .

By Mark Simuuwe

Propaganda had an era in world politics ; not anymore , especially with the social media technology age .

Propaganda simply means lies . Unfortunately, PF and M’membe still believe propaganda can work in politics. They are busy publishing propaganda statements without facts . Information that only themselves are aware of .

Information which Citizens can’t prove . Meanwhile , all government information can be verified due to oversight institutions like FIC , ACC, DEC , Auditor General’s report , including the legislature through the public accounts committee, among other parliamentary committees.

As for propaganda , it is deleted immediately there is a response or clarification by the respective office. You can’t call propaganda as politics!

What PF lack are serious intellectuals to push a noble political agenda to , first of all, intellectually fight free education, fight the massive recruitment of teachers and health workers which youths are enjoying , massive recruitments , CDF, Agro loans , Skills training , market loans , making of desks for schools under CDF , councils purchasing graders across the country, road construction without using loans from other countries but PPP, civil servants getting salaries on time , clearing of Salary Arrears for Council workers , paying retirees, ZNS purchase of 10 milling plants , establishing fertilizer manufacturing plant , opening of Shaft 28 on Copperbelt , Chambishi Metals , putting an end to Carderism of attacking whoever is found in opposition political party regalia , media freedoms , which they are also enjoying , resolving loadshedding , mine expansions due to stable political environment translating into more jobs , etc.

I have seen Emmanuel Mwamba publish lies that HH was not given the guard of honour in China , and a day later pictures were shown , and Mwamba disappeared.

Fred M’membe equally starting the Post Newspaper agenda of tribalism in which he coined the word , “Bantustan”.

Just the behavior of writing about other tribes every time makes him irrelevant and a danger to national security , later on unfit to be a statesman . It is people with such behavior who can sponsors genocide and terrorism against other tribes .

They gain when citizens begin fighting , just like PF were enjoying to see dead bodies of citizens like Nsama Nsama , Joseph Kaunda , Mapenzi Chibulo , Kasongo , among others , who will never even come back yet the killers would want more chance to be trusted again.

Citizens may recall that PF used tribe propaganda with fake videos from another country that the people of Bweengwa were attacking other tribes. Later , it was discovered to be a lie.

Tribalism never worked for PF yet they still believe it can work . The ones instigating ethnic hegemony is a small group of conmen who lost elections .

Today , they are now using propaganda that the UPND said the PF were corrupt yet they are not being arrested ; they know Zambians forget easily and they have forgotten that so many PF officials are appearing in court for being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime , including the propagandist himself .

And PF is busy dancing a misleading M’membe tribal Post Newspaper song which does not work in modern politics and is an offence .

Unfortunately, PF don’t learn civil politics, because the Post Newspaper taught them tribalism; they still want to use it and it has continued to make them look irrelevant and dangerous to citizens who have lived together for more than 56 years .

Zambians have seen what tribalism has brought in other countries. In fact , social media has helped them to See more than what these propagandists are publishing.

What the propagandists are missing is that with technology, citizens are aware of many bad cases of tribalism on social media in other countries than what the propagandists think .

Today , Emmanuel Mwamba brings out another lie about IMF . Later it is discovered that he was lying . How do some old people feel when they are caught lying then they disappear?

Lies have short legs . They will continue wasting time on lies that have short legs ; meanwhile time for them it ticking .

Lusaka couple divorces after 2 weeks of marriage, hubby doesn’t want fertile woman

Lusaka couple divorces after 2 weeks of marriage, hubby doesn’t want fertile woman

A COUPLE of Hellen Kaunda in the nation’s capital, Lusaka has divorced after only 14 days in marriage.

If the duration of their marriage is shocking, the reason of their break up is even more shocking.

After getting married on October 21, 2023, David Banda, 41 an employee of Beautiful Living Company petitioned the Lusaka Boma Local Court to end his marriage with Doris Mutale aged 29 because she was fertile and able to give birth.

Yes, you heard right – fertile and able to give birth!

Running the court through the couple’s journey to their short lived marriage and eventual divorce hearing, Doris told the court that Banda paid K13,000 dowry out of the charged K15,000 to pave way for a Chilangamulilo, Kitchen party and eventually a wedding ceremony.

Doris said as the days of events approached, Banda shocked both her and her kin and kith when he called off the Chilangamulilo and Kitchen party five days before their dates while demanding that the wedding ceremony be revised down to a low key bride delivery ceremony on one of the evenings.

However, after being delivered to her husband, Doris was again shocked when her brand new husband asked her to go back to her relatives and stay for a month as he needed to sort out a few things with his ex-girlfriend, a request she refused.

Doris later learned that the ex girlfriend her husband was referring to was actually his former wife named Sarah Phiri whom he had divorced in April of this year.

Curious about what else Banda was hiding, Doris activated FBI instincts possessed by every suspicious woman and what she was to discover was shocking.

He husband had been married to three other women whom he divorced before finding her.

“One day when I was sweeping, I found some papers in the house, when I read them, I discovered that they were actually divorce papers of him and another foreign woman from Thailand named Sansanee Kumpeepong Banda. And the divorce was in the high court on September 18, 2023, barely a month before we got married. And when I asked him about it, he told me that it was his boss divorcing under his name and signature,” Doris narrated.

She added that one day, Banda’s first divorced wife hinted her that he wanted to divorce her and when she asked why, a voice recording was sent to her which she presented as court evidence.

In the recording, Banda was heard telling his first wife that he wanted to leave Doris because he discovered that she could give birth and his fear was having a woman that could give him more children because they will have to share his properties with his now three children. And for that, he wanted to bring back his second divorced wife, ‘Sarah’ because according to him, she was barren.

“He loves to marry different women a lot, he is uncertain. My husband is capable of taking dowry to another woman while still married to another. If he can manage to divorce 3 women in a period of eight months, everything is possible. He just cant go around playing around with people’s daughter’s and breaking their hearts anyhow,” said Doris.

However, in his statement, Banda told the court that the main reason he was divorcing Doris in two weeks was because she was too insecure.

He said she liked to observe his where about each time he was not home while accusing him of being with other women.

“If I don’t pick her calls, it becomes a problem. She immediately suspects that am with a woman. And even if I explain myself, my explanation still lands in deaf ears. One day, I even found a message in her phone where her sister called me an adulterous. At one point, she even asked me to step up as a man telling that there was no way that she could be lacking emotionally and financially. That hurt me and I want to divorce her,” Said Banda.

He went on to say all this three past divorces he has had are because he is still searching for a woman that will change and mould him into a better man. “And all this happened in two weeks only? Well you do not need a woman to change you, it is you to change yourself. She was probably insecure about you because of your background. She knew you loved women. How do you chase someone one day into marriage and ask them to stay for a month?” asked Magistrate Lombe Chibesakunda.

Magistrate Chibesakunda then granted the couple a divorce with compensation awarded to the defendant.

And just like that, Banda walked away with his fourth divorce certificate at age 41.

“Mr Banda is still searching for a woman that will change him. Unfortunately, he does not love you and the court can not force him too. But the court’s advise to plaintiff is that you need to restrain yourself from woman if you just want to play. You cant pay a hefty amount of K13,000 as dowry to a woman only to divorce her in two weeks. You can be jumping up and down from one divorce to another breaking women’s hearts. These women will one day unite to deal with you. And for that, the court will help them to discipline you by charging you with K6,000 as compensation to your ex-wife effective this month end,” Said Magistrate Chibesakunda.

K12.7 Billion Released For Developmental Programmes, Public Service Delivery, Debt Service, Arrears And Wages

0

K12.7 BILLION RELEASED FOR DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMMES, PUBLIC SERVICE DELIVERY, DEBT SERVICE, ARREARS AND WAGES

In October, 2023, the Ministry of Finance and National Planning released K12.7 billion to finance developmental programmes, public service delivery, debt service, arrears and wages. Of this amount K2.8 billion was released for transfers, subsidies and social benefits, K2.2 billion for debt service (domestic and external) including arrears, K2 billion for the implementation of various government programmes and general operations, and an additional K2 billion was spent on capital expenditure. Furthermore, the Government released K3.7 billion for the public service wage bill.

As indicated above, the Government released K2.8 billion for transfers and subsidies, of which:

1) K513.7 million for the Constituency development fund (CDF), and of the amount, K217.9 million was for secondary schools and skills development bursaries, and K295.8 million was for youth and women empowerment. Regarding CDF, Finance and National Planning Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, MP, assures the nation that the Government will fully disburse the outstanding balances before 2023, ends. Going into 2024, the unspent 2023 CDF balances will be retained by respective Constituencies to enable implementation of all targeted CDF projects;

2) K537.9 million was released as grants to support the free education policy in public schools. Next year, we will continue to provide free education by paying school fees in public schools for all learners at early childhood, primary and secondary education levels;

3) K115.1 million for operations of public universities, student loans and scholarships. Next year, the allocation for Higher Education Loan Student Board will be increased to ensure that more vulnerable students are supported with loans and meal allowances under the scheme – See Budget Speech: https://www.mofnp.gov.zm/?wpdmpro=2024-budget-speech;

4) K490.2 million for hospital operations and Grant Aided Institutions (GAIs) in Government Ministries;

5) K325.9 million to the Public Service Pension Funds as funding gap and an operation grant;

6) K245.3 million for the Social Cash Transfer Programme;

7) K111.6 million for the Local Government Equalization Fund;

(8) K279.2 million as a grant to ZRA to support operations and resource mobilisation; and,

9) K160.8 million for the Food Security Pack Programme. As recently stated during the winding-up of debate on the 2024 Budget in Parliament, wider measures on food security, consistent with the Government’s commitment to continue on the path of lowering the cost maize production, will be implemented. Key among the measures is the reduction in cost of fertilizer, to promote productivity as a way of facilitating the downward trend in the cost of mealie meal. We will continue engaging millers to reach an understanding on reducing mealie-meal cost by procuring maize stocks from the Food Reserve Agency (FRA). In addition, FRA will be releasing stocks of maize for community purchases so that citizens could mill the maize using cheap technologies like hammer mills.

In the month under review, K1 billion was disbursed for the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP). Clearly, the agriculture sector is a key driver of our economy, therefore, it requires sustained support to increase productivity, enhance value addition, and strengthen market linkages. Before the year ends, the Government will launch the Comprehensive Agriculture Support Programme (CASP) which will encompass extension service support, access to finance, irrigation development, support to value addition, and storage and logistics.

In October, 2023, the Government also released K2 billion to facilitate implementation of developmental programmes and other general operations under various government institutions. A further K2 billion towards capital expenditure, was released, of which: K1.4 billion for various projects in Ministries, Provinces and Agencies; K471.4 million for road infrastructure; K105 million for water and sanitation; and, K38.4 million for the Rural Electrification Programme.

In line with the Government’s commitment to reduce indebtedness and attain sustainability, a sum of K1.9 billion was released last month for payment of both domestic and external debt obligations. We take this opportunity to reiterate that next year, domestic and external financing will be mobilised in accordance with the Annual Borrowing Plan to be approved by Parliament. This will help us close the financing gap in the 2024 Budget and facilitate implementation of various programmes and projects which we would not be able to implement from general revenues alone.

To facilitate business continuity, the Treasury released K268 million towards dismantling of arrears owed to suppliers of goods & services. The Government is aware of the challenges associated with access to affordable finance by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), some of whom are suppliers of goods and services. Apart from using the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission to empower MSMEs, the Government has continued to provide funds through facilities such as Women Empowerment, Constituency Development Fund, and the Youth Empowerment Programme. The total allocation for these empowerment initiatives amounts to K1.4 billion in 2024. Going forward, the Government will continue to allocate funds to empowerment initiatives, and reinvest the revolving funds. We will also continue to leverage and promote private sector investments under various empowerment initiatives.

Related to wages (personal emoluments) for public service workers, the Government spent a total of K3.7 billion in the month under review. Gladly, we have continued to ensure that wages are timely paid. The total monthly figure will increase next year when we recruit 10,400 additional public service workers in an effort to improve staffing levels in needy sectors. In this regard, 5,400 will be recruited in the education sector, among whom 4,200 will be teachers and 1,200 will be non-teaching staff. The Government will also recruit 4,000 health personnel. The remaining 1,000 employees will be recruited across other sectors.

Conclusion

The Government stands by its commitment to actualize our national development priorities for the benefit of our people. The budget has continued and will continue to steer our economy on a positive trajectory towards growth and prosperity. Going forward, we are determined to enable our citizens in reaching their full potential through the efficient delivery of public services. We remain steadfast in our ambition to address concerns and challenges that Zambian’s are facing hence we are duty-bound in pursuit of creating sustainable fiscal space for achievement of national development aspirations. We are on course in our economic transformation programme.

Trouble in Paradise-IMF Rejects Eurobond Deal- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Trouble in Paradise-IMF Rejects Eurobond Deal

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other bilateral partners have rejected Zambia’s proposed debt restructuring settlement with the Eurobond bondholders.

Zambia obtained $3billion Eurobond commercial loan which now stands at $3.8billion.

Government announced recently that it had reached an agreement between the steering committee of the ad hoc creditor committee of Eurobond holders for the three Eurobonds maturing in 2022, 2024 and 2027 to bring the restructuring near to closure.

The proposed debt exchange entails an 18% haircut to bondholders’ current notional claims of over USD3.8 billion.

IMF says this very expensive and has proposed instead a 40% haircut.

Once Zambia has reached an agreement with creditors on restructuring its Eurobonds and assessment is done that it has completed that restructuring process, it would be moved from its Long-Term Foreign-Currency Issuer Default Rating (LTFC IDR) out of ‘Restricted Default’ (RD) and credit rating agencies will assign a rating based on a forward-looking assessment of the sovereign’s willingness and capacity to honour its foreign-currency debt obligations.

As with the June agreement with the Official Creditor Committee (OCC), the deal included a contingency element offering benefits to creditors.

The remaining claims were restructured into two bonds, one of which has a step-up in payments and an earlier maturity.

The IMF confirmed in July that implementing the Official Creditor Committee agreement and a comparable agreement with private creditors (Eurobond and others) would enable Zambia’s debt to be assessed as sustainable, with a moderate risk of debt distress over the medium term, under both the baseline and upside scenario.

Paris Club as lenders in the last decade—agreed to coordinate to provide debt relief consistent with the debtor’s capacity to pay and maintain essential spending needs.

But so far, only three countries—Chad, Ethiopia, and Zambia—have made requests for debt relief under the G20 Common Framework.

The Framework is the only multilateral mechanism for forgiving and restructuring sovereign debt.

However the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) which has allowed Zambia and 38 other countries not to service their debt since December 2020, will expire at the end of this year forcing participating countries including Zambia to resume debt service payments.

UPND’s looming 2026 battle against voters

UPND’s looming 2026 battle against voters

By Daimone Siulapwa

Happy Sunday, today I will throw seven key points to the UPND leadership, its members, sympathisers, die hards and praise singers as food for thought, to digest truthfully without a preconceived mind.

In our political landscape, the 2026 elections are shaping up to be a fierce contest, not merely between political parties but a daunting face-off between the UPND and an increasingly disillusioned electorate.

The battleground is set, and the stakes are higher than ever as the issues of fixing the Kwacha and alleviating the soaring cost of living take center stage.

1 The Cost of Living: An Unbearable Burden

The phrase “bread and butter” in politics has never rung truer than in the current Zambian context. The escalating cost of living has become a crushing burden on citizens, and the government’s inability to address this issue is a ticking time bomb.

Hungry voters do not vote on promises; they vote with their bellies. The UPND must acknowledge this harsh reality and take swift, effective action to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the people.

Will the voters still be hungry and disgruntled when they go to vote in 2026?

2 Meali Meal, Fuel, and Electricity: Managing the Essentials

In the realm of governance, few things matter more to the common man than access to basic necessities. No GDP figures, interest rate, good investor atmosphere or graphs will convince a hungry person in Chibolya or Chawama about how well the economy is performing than cheaper meali meal, fuel and electricity.

The mismanagement of essential commodities like meali meal, fuel, and electricity has historically been the downfall of many governments world-wide.

The UPND needs to reassess its approach to managing these crucial aspects of our daily life. The government’s role should be one of ensuring accessibility, affordability, and reliability at all costs, not a source of frustration for the electorate.

3 Openness to Criticism is a Virtue, Not a Weakness

Thanks to the new government spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, he has brought a breath of fresh air. A healthy democracy thrives on constructive criticism.

The UPND must shed its defensive posture and embrace dissenting voices. Labelling opposing views as mere disgruntlement is a perilous path. True governance requires a discerning ear, a willingness to self-reflect, and openness to diverse perspectives.

The UPND’s intolerance to criticism risks alienating segments of the population and jeopardizing the very democratic principles it seeks to uphold. In politics, it is always an advantage to hear what the people have to say regardless of how painful it may be, than to shut them dawn.

4 The Thin Line Between Protest Vote and Discontent

The UPND rose to power on the wave of a protest vote against the PF. However, the same force that propels a party to victory can swiftly turn against it if governance falls short of expectations.

The party must remember that maintaining the public’s trust requires constant effort, transparency, and a commitment to addressing the core concerns of the electorate.

It would be dangerous, naïve and amateurish for the UPND to still think they have the 2.8 million who voted for them still in their back pocket. They will need to work very hard to even get half of that number in 2026, let alone the 2.8 million. UPND must be very clear that everything now depends on how they delivery from now until the next elections.

5 The Kwacha Conundrum: A Currency in Crisis

A fundamental challenge that the UPND must confront is the alarming depreciation of the Kwacha, a crisis fuelled by the country’s dangerously low foreign exchange reserves.

The heavy reliance on imports only exacerbates this predicament, putting immense pressure on our currency. To salvage the situation, the government must make building up foreign exchange reserves a top priority.

This is not merely an economic concern; it is a matter of national stability. The destruction of many SMEs who are the backbone of our economy and depend on imports is on the brink if measures are not put in place urgently to curb the volatile kwacha. With minimum wages going up in January 2024, retrenchments will be the order of the day within the next two months.

A strategic move towards promoting local production is paramount in stabilizing the Kwacha. By developing the agricultural, manufacturing, and mining sectors, Zambia can reduce its dependence on imported goods. This not only stimulates economic growth but also curtails the demand for foreign currency, thus alleviating the strain on the Kwacha.

The government should be proactive in providing incentives and robust support to local businesses, fostering investment and growth in key sectors.

6 Breaking the Chains of Copper Dependency

Zambia’s over-reliance on copper exports is a dangerous vulnerability. The global volatility of commodity prices poses a constant threat to the nation’s economic stability.

Diversifying the economy is not a luxury but an urgent necessity. By exploring and expanding into other sectors, Zambia can shield itself from the unpredictable fluctuations in the copper market.

The UPND must champion this cause to ensure a resilient and diversified economy that can weather the storms of international markets.

7 A Call for Strategic Reflection for UPND

As the UPND prepares for the 2026 elections, it stands at a critical juncture. The path ahead is fraught with challenges, but it also presents an opportunity for transformative leadership.

Fixing the Kwacha, tackling the cost of living crisis, and addressing fundamental governance issues require not just policies but a resolute commitment to the well-being of the Zambian people.

The UPND can ill-afford complacency or a dismissive attitude toward the genuine concerns of our citizens. A proactive, inclusive, and responsive approach will not only secure electoral victory but, more importantly, pave the way for a Zambia that is economically robust, socially just, and politically stable.

The clock is ticking, and the 2026 elections will be a litmus test of the UPND’s vision, resilience, and dedication to the democratic aspirations of the Zambian people.
