Rapper Drill receives 27-year sentence over lyrics that shows he killed a teenager

0

A rapper who makes music about violence was sent to prison for 27 years because his song lyrics had information that only one of the attackers could have known.

A chilling video caught seven attackers riding bicycles in Farringdon, north London, on April 15, 2019. They were looking for their rivals. After some time, two people were observed removing their outer layers and running after the 16-year-old person. The attackers used sharp knives similar to the ones used in the movie “Rambo” and stabbed the victim 19 times. They then left the victim believing they were dead.

Investigators discovered a backpack hidden in some bushes close by. The backpack had DNA that belongs to Ryan Maqsood, who is 26 years old. The sample he provided is the same as the one taken from a knife.

As part of the investigation, they also studied the drill songs written and performed by Maqsood using his stage name ‘Rashy’.

The person who did the crime was found guilty of trying to kill someone, even though the person who got hurt didn’t want to participate in the trial. The person who did the crime didn’t have a permanent place to live. The person who got hurt had injuries on their face, chest, and legs and was young.

Judge Anthony Leonard KC sentenced him to 27 years in prison at the Old Bailey.

Detective Sergeant Katy Phipps, who was in charge of the investigation, said: “The teenager is very fortunate that his injuries did not cause his death. ”

The evidence we found during the investigation convinced the jury that he was guilty, even though the victim did not want to help the police.

‘The drill music we found on Maqsood’s phone had very precise information that suggests only someone who was present during the incident could have known it. ‘

A guy got sentenced to 27 years in jail because the lyrics he wrote in his songs helped prove he tried to kill someone. Ryan Maqsood, a 26-year-old man from Liverpool Road, N1, was found guilty of trying to kill someone and having a sharp weapon. He appeared in court at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 16 August.

He proudly talked about an assault on a person in a song. He said he wanted to hurt their lungs, intestines, and kidneys, and send them to Sydney.

Do not attempt to jump on cars. Take care of your legs and chest, my friend. Shave your head like Britney Spears.

The last time I got into a fight with Bourne bro, I badly hurt his face by cutting it like a pumpkin.

‘Now the little man must cover his face because he looks untidy. I’m being honest. ‘

A specialist officer who knows a lot about drill music helped the jury understand the lyrics by giving expert evidence in court.

The jury also received expert information about local gangs to better understand the situation.

Proof showed that the stabbing happened because of a fight between groups of gangs in Islington.

Cases of sexual assault and ‘cover-ups’ in Roman Catholic Church in Switzerland – report

0

An official investigation into the Roman Catholic Church in Switzerland has found almost 1,000 instances of sexual abuse since 1950.

The report mentioned that many kids were affected, and 56% of the victims were boys. Most of the people who were accused were men.

Scientists from the University of Zurich also discovered proof of a “commonly hidden” situation.

The study’s leaders said that the cases we found are just a small part of a much bigger problem.

Monika Dommann and Marietta Meier worked together to put together the report after investigating for a year. The Church asked them to do this investigation.

They were allowed to look at the Church’s records and also spoke with a few individuals, including those who were hurt by sexual abuse.

But they mentioned that many other papers were still not accessible.

The scientists also discovered proof that some important documents were destroyed at two church administrative districts, and that not all instances of sexual abuse were written down and stored.

“Based on our knowledge of the hidden aspects of crime, we believe that only a small amount of cases were actually reported,” explained Ms. Dommann and Ms.

More than half of the cases happened during times when religious activities were happening, like confession, altar service, and children’s religious education.

An additional 30% of abuse was discovered in places like Catholic children’s homes, day schools, and boarding schools.

In addition to recording cases of sexual abuse, the researchers also studied how Church officials handled these incidents and found that many were hidden, concealed, or minimized.

Their report said that many officials, such as bishops, did not do enough to help the people who were affected.

Clergy members who were accused of committing abuse were regularly moved to different jobs by people in influential positions. Sometimes, they were even sent to work in other countries to avoid facing legal punishment. This reassignment happened repeatedly and was done on purpose to protect them from prosecution.

This means that the Catholic Church and its leaders cared more about their own interests than the well-being and safety of the people who go to church.

The researchers stated that people’s perspective remained the same until the 21st Century, when different instances of sexual abuse started coming to light.

“We are sad to say that the initial investigation has confirmed what we have noticed and, in some situations, are still going through,” organizations supporting survivors of sexual abuse stated in a statement reacting to the report.

“For many years, the leaders of the Catholic Church in Switzerland have hidden these crimes, shielding the people who committed them and preserving the image of their organization while ignoring the suffering of the victims who were silenced. ”

The leader of the Catholic Church in Switzerland said during a meeting with reporters on Tuesday that they were disappointed with the organization’s actions and felt that they did not provide enough support for the victims.

Renata Asal-Steger said that we try to find words, but we are aware that we will not find the correct ones.

The church has promised to provide money for a future project by the University of Zurich. The project will start in 2024.

Biden’s impeachment investigation to begin in the House of Representatives

0

The highest-ranking Republican in the US House of Representatives has announced that they will begin a formal investigation into President Joe Biden, which could lead to his removal from office.

Kevin McCarthy said the investigation will concentrate on “claims of misuse of authority, obstruction, and corruption” by Mr.

Republicans have been looking into the actions of the president ever since they gained control of the House in January.

The investigations did not find any clear proof that Mr Biden did anything wrong.

They have provided more information about the business transactions of Hunter Biden, the son of the president, which Republicans believe are suspicious. They have also revealed details about Mr. Biden’s knowledge of his son’s actions.

Mr McCarthy spoke briefly at the US Capitol and said that there were serious and believable allegations about the president’s behavior.

“He said that when all of these accusations are considered together, they indicate that there is a lot of corruption happening within the group. ”

The White House was fast to criticize Mr McCarthy’s choice.

“House Republicans have been looking into the President’s actions for nine months, and they haven’t found any proof of him doing something wrong,” said White House spokesperson Ian Sams in a social media message.

The politics are really bad and extreme.

Hunter Biden is being investigated by the government for potentially breaking tax laws in connection to his business dealings with other countries.

Mr McCarthy, who is a lawmaker from California, also claimed that the president’s family has been treated differently by officials from the Biden administration who are looking into accusations of wrongdoing.

This investigation will give government investigators more power to look into the president by allowing them to ask for certain documents and testimony. These requests will be easier to enforce in court.
“Title: Media Explanation” Media refers to various forms of communication, such as television, radio, newspapers, and the internet. It is how people share information and entertainment with each other.

McCarthy is saying that President Biden told lies to the American people.

The US Constitution says that a president can be removed from office if they commit acts like betraying the country, taking bribes, or doing other serious illegal things.

The announcement on Tuesday is the initial step in a series of actions that might lead to a vote for impeachment in the House. The Republicans currently have a slim majority of 222-212 in the House.

After that, it would go to a Senate trial – which is a political process, not a criminal one.

If the Senate chooses guilty, the president is taken out of office. If they vote that the person is not guilty, they can keep doing their job.

Democrats are in control of the Senate, and if it reaches that point, they will most likely reject the proceedings.

Mr Trump, who is the only US president to have been impeached twice, was declared not guilty on both occasions by his fellow Republicans.

Mr McCarthy is the leader of the Republicans in the House of Representatives. He has been approached by right-wing members for many weeks to begin an impeachment investigation.

Congressman Matt Gaetz, who is a friend of former President Donald Trump, thinks that the announcement is only a small step forward. This is because there has been a lot of pressure from conservative members of the House for more action to be taken. He warned that he would take action to remove Mr McCarthy from his leadership role if the Speaker did not begin an impeachment investigation.

Mr McCarthy has had a weak hold on power in the House since he became the top leader in January, after going through 15 rounds of voting. This was a modern record. As a condition for becoming the leader, he promised to give one member of Congress the authority to start a vote to remove him from his position.

Mr McCarthy is currently working hard to guide a series of spending bills through the House. Congress needs to approve these actions before the end of September to prevent the US government from partially shutting down.

Mr McCarthy’s decision to support impeachment could be seen as an effort to gain favor from conservative House Republicans before important debates about the budget.

However, there are dangers involved in using this plan. Republican politicians in areas with tough competition have expressed concern about a strong push for impeachment. They worry that this approach might distance them from independent and moderate voters who helped them win elections.

The Democrats are saying that Mr. McCarthy strongly criticized Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader, in 2019. This happened when she started an investigation to impeach Mr. Trump without officially voting on it.

Mr McCarthy has agreed to investigate whether to impeach someone. But there will be more pressure for a vote in the House to officially authorize the impeachment hearings and establish the rules.

This vote will make the centrists publicly known for their decision and give the Democrats something to criticize during the November 2024 election.

But that is a problem for Mr McCarthy next year. Right now, he is attempting to prevent rebellious conservative members of Congress from openly rebelling – and making a vote to remove him from his position.

The process of removing a president from office, known as impeachment, or at least the start of that process, could give him enough time and space to survive the next few months politically.

THEY PROMISED THE SKY, MOON…but they can’t even deliver the earth, Archbishop Mpundu mocks UPND

THEY PROMISED THE SKY, MOON
…but they can’t even deliver the earth, Mpundu mocks UPND

By Thomas Ngala

IF people are not given opportunities to access food and access it affordably in amounts that are accepted, whatever you may say you are a failure with a capital F, says emeritus Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu.

He told The Mast in an interview that “if you feed the people, fine, everything will be alright. But you make it difficult for them to access food then they will say we are being neglected”.

He slammed the UPND administration over the many promises they made prior to the 2021 elections.

“They promised too much. They promised the sky, and the moon, and the sun but they can’t even deliver the earth. They promised too much. And people are not stupid. Even before independence, we were hearing it from our freedom fighters most of whom are dead. No, when we are independent from the British people will be driving cars, most people will be driving cars. We couldn’t see that, only very few. And when we are independent, our schools will just be like those in the UK. Came that day, nothing of that sort. When you promise so much, people are expecting what you promised them. And when they don’t see that, they get a chance to pull away their confidence in you,” he said. “You are liars! They don’t want to say it that way but that is what they mean. You promised this but now it is not here. Where are you? We were cheated by the party that is in power now. Now we have seen where they have come from and what they are able to do. All our confidence is gone. That is what politics is all about. Some people don’t want to accept the truth. Most have seen that this government is not up to what it takes, the way we want it. Promises have not been fulfilled and we are told to wait 10 years or we are going to wait for 15 years. No, people are hungry today. They are not waiting to eat until 20:00 hours, no. They are hungry now, and hungry people are angry people.”

Archbishop Mpundu said being voted into power doesn’t mean that the UPND leaders know everything.

He advised the government to listen to the people.

“What you have promised, they (citizens) have now come out clean, they know where you stand. They are not at all amused. You are not performing. You have to work double shift in order to perform. Listen to the people. If you don’t listen to the people…some of us, you might say we are strong on religion…issues of this kind must always be weighed. Listen to the people, you cannot go wrong when you listen to the people. I believe the words of the people is the Word of God. If people, those politicians leading us, who are governing us are not listening to the people’s cries, and it is said in the Bible, God will listen to the cry of the poor,” Archbishop Mpundu said. “When you don’t listen to the people, like the other time we were told the price of mealie meal has gone up especially breakfast, ‘you don’t have money for breakfast, go for roller meal’. You don’t have money for roller meal, what do you do? Why not eat kandolo (sweet potatoes). When kandolo is not around, what do you do? I think they would have said eat grass. People cannot wait indefinitely. They want those promises which were made to be fulfilled. You cannot tell a little child crying of hunger ‘oh but wait a minute your mother is going to prepare food at 20:00 hours or food will be available tomorrow’. If you are a parent, you have a partner, a wife, a husband, the first thing to do is do feed your family and if parents cannot feed their family then it is a real humiliation and it is terrible.”

On the President Hakainde Hichilema’s sentiments that he would lock up the PF members who he says are now regrouping, the Archbishop wondered why the President uttered such remarks.

He stressed that it is important for PF to remain in the political space for effective checks and balances to be done.

“We would like to think that Zambia is a democratic country or at least aspiring to be as democratic as possible. You heard that when there were elections in the UK, the opposition party just went into oblivion? No, they continued because this is one of the checks and balances. Now HH wants that particular party to get lost, no! We will be losing one area of checks and balances. So now, without shame say they will visit them. To do what? To beat them up, to kill them? No. We want this country to remain a democratic dispensation where people are free to speak, to associate, and so on and so forth. A place where liberties are respected. So if HH is thinking of trying to silence the opposition it is a wrong way. The only way to silence the opposition is to perform well,” said Archbishop Mpundu. “So this question of they are regrouping now, why are they afraid? Because then we get real checks and balances from an opposition political party that says you have that political party in government, see how they are messing up things. When we come it will be different, just like HH was doing. Now he wants to take that away from others, primitive politics of Africa. Trying to completely get rid of the opposition. But then there are other organisations which act as balances and one of them is OCiDA, and we want it to remain that way, without fear or favour. After the elections in the UK, you do not hear that the other party has stopped existing, no. They go on. It’s not a question of regrouping, it is just a question of going on providing checks and balances. He is wishing them to die, it’s a wrong wish and it won’t be fulfilled.”

While at Chimbokaila on Monday last week, HH said, “I want to send a message to PF that I can see that they are regrouping now. The fact that we did not lock you up, the fact that we did not arrest you, is not that we are not capable. We are just kind people. If you start regrouping now, we will come for you in a heavy way. In a heavy way! We will come for you in a big way.”- The Mast

ZANU-PF’s Chinamasa angers the Mwanawasa family

ZANU-PF’s Chinamasa angers the Mwanawasa family

By Ernest Chanda

PATRICK Mwanawasa has asked the government to investigate claims by Zimbabwe’s ruling party senior official Patrick Chinamasa about the cause of death for his father Levy Mwanawasa.

In his writeup titled: Those with eyes, let them ‘eye’, Chinamasa claimed that Mwanawasa, as SADC chair, became hostile and was working with then British prime minister Tony Blair and others in the region to push for regime change in Zimbabwe.

“For those who don’t know the late Zambian president Levy Mwanawasa, let me fill you in about him. During his tenure of office as Zambian President, he became the darling of Western countries and, cheered on by these sanctions-imposing countries, became very hostile towards Zimbabwe and ZANUPF. He went further than mere rhetoric and, working in cahoots with Tony Blair, had agreed to a Tony Blair proposal to use Zambia as a base for British Military Forces to launch a military offensive against Zimbabwe with a view to reversing the land redistribution programme and effecting regime change,” wrote Chinamasa. “Zimbabwe picked up the intelligence about the hostile intentions of Blair and Mwanawasa. As SADC Chairman in 2008, Mwanawasa convened an Emergency SADC Summit on Zimbabwe in Lusaka with the intent to rally other SADC leaders to the view that a military intervention in Zimbabwe to remove ZANUPF from power was inevitable. Mwanawasa invited Tsvangirai to the Summit. As Zimbabwe, we objected to the attendance of an opposition leader at a Summit of Heads of State. Our objection fell on deaf ears. President Mugabe decided to boycott the Summit and instead dispatched a four Minister delegation to the SADC Lusaka Heads of States Summit to engage Mwanawasa and dissuade him from the path to plunge Zimbabwe and the region into an Armageddon. I led the delegation to the Lusaka Summit. To beef up and bolster the strength of the delegation, President Mugabe sent President ED Mnangagwa (then Speaker of the National Assembly) to join the delegation… The Lusaka Emergency SADC summit was inconclusive, and Mwanawasa made it known that he was taking the matter to the AU Summit to be held at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. Mwanawasa suffered a stroke, and that put an end to the regime change agenda as a SADC-initiated project at the behest of Tony Blair.”

Reacting to this, Patrick challenged Chinamasa to explain if the Zimbabwean government was involved in his father’s death.

“We congratulate the people of Zimbabwe for conducting peaceful elections in the recently held harmonised poll. It is however shocking that during the euphoria surrounding the presumed winners ZANU-PF, a senior party official recklessly issued remarks admitting that the Zimbabwean government had a hand to play in the death of the late 3rd Republican President Dr Levy Patrick Mwanawasa,” Patrick said. “In his sickening and disgraceful tirade aimed at our Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the former vice-president Dr Nevers Mumba, Mr Patrick Chinamasa, the ZANU-PF treasurer, gave a chilling account of events leading up to the death of Dr Mwanawasa in Sharm El Sheikh Egypt. It is our desire to know as to whether the Zimbabwean government through Mr Chinamasa is admitting guilt in the demise of the late Zambian head of state.”

Patrick wondered why Chinamasa would seek to destroy cordial relations that have existed between the two countries for decades.

“As Neighbouring countries we have enjoyed cordial relations over the years. It is however disheartening that the ilk of Mr Chinamasa, a seasoned politician, can be rather cavalier when commenting on issues of statecraft. His claims have seditious connotations and it is rather shameful that the Zimbabwean government have failed to distance themselves from this appalling and despicable statement. This is a new low for Mr Chinamasa’s integrity. We wish him well in the twilight of his career and hope that he can genuflect on his conduct as he approaches the gates to the dustbin of political history,” said Patrick. “To this end, I implore the Zambian government and SADC to investigate these allegations by Mr Chinamasa, a senior ZANU-PF official. Moreover, I sincerely hope that our government will not take these threats on our President Mr Hakainde Hichilema lightly. Mr Chinamasa made these unwarranted remarks in his capacity as a senior ZANU-PF official. We seek clarity over this matter and we demand in the strongest terms that he be held to account for his insinuations.”- The Mast

PF Borrowed More Than $6.5 Billion From China And Defaulted In 2020, And Abused Borrowed Money ; They Should Keep Quiet When Their Friends Are Clinching Meaningful Deals On Trade And Investment- Mark Simuuwe

PF BORROWED MORE THAN $6.5 BILLION FROM CHINA AND DEFAULTED IN 2020, AND ABUSED BORROWED MONEY ; THEY SHOULD KEEP QUIET WHEN THEIR FRIENDS ARE CLINCHING MEANINGFUL DEALS ON TRADE AND INVESTMENT – INSONI EBUNTU BA EMMANUEL MWAMBA

By Mark Simuuwe

Ba Emmanuel Mwamba , I thought you were once an ambassador and know that there is no head of state who is without Guard of Honour anywhere in the world .

For those who do not know , the guard of honor granted to the host president is given to a visiting President as a symbol of Military subordination and protection to the visiting president , to mean that , he is accorded the same respect as their president, without which the Head of State would in essence never be safe .

This is a practice even if HH visited any leader in a state visit anywhere in the world .

A President is not received like an ordinary person or minister. It is a standard practice world over . This is a State Visit not a an official visit .

Secondly, I am not surprised at your level of reasoning and lopsided propaganda because I have debated with you and I know your level of reasoning . Thirdly, tell us which country you ever saw failing to provide a guard of honour to any head of state during a state visit anywhere in the world ?

Lastly , I think that is besides the point to even debate the guard of honor ; it is like telling people to believe you that one head of state had no police escort ; does that make sense for anyone to believe you ? As for ECL ! ECL is gone and is not in the picture in China anymore , governments run that way . ECL borrowed money and failed to pay back . He failed to negotiate the same debt owed to China, meaning not even China could trust him with their money after defaulting for any negotiations.

If you think ECL is a factor because you have kept his picture , why did he fail to negotiate on the Chinese debt ? Why has it taken HH to succeed?

In your PF level of thinking , you never thought that HH would be in China in one of your posts . Today , HH is in China where FDI today has brought serious returns to China contributing about one-third to the country’s GDP just from Shenzhen alone , which has industrial economic zones for companies from all over the world and within .

UPND THINKING ON ZAMBIA – CHINA RELATIONS

China brings to Africa , an interesting economic model which is devoid of ideological debates but tailored to respond to the Peoples Republic of China goals of growing the GDP for the country with pro-poor policies.

China brings decentralization on the table for African countries to learn about the importance of people centered empowerment programmes and devolved resources.

Further , China comes with so many opportunities that can stimulate trade and investment in Zambia in the area of technology, education, energy , agriculture and manufacturing sector .

Most importantly, China brings to the table the key milestone in debt restructuring – associated with the PF government which borrowed money indiscriminately abused it .

China brings to the country , party- to -party relations for strengthened bilateral relations.

Lastly , China remains a strategic partner to Afeica especially in the area of trade an investment.

This is what separates your ECL/ PF from The UPND .

Mnangagwa tells those unhappy with his cabinet to appoint their own … when they become president

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced a new cabinet, appointing some of his own family members to high-ranking positions.

Mnangagwa appointed his son Kudakwashe David Mnangagwa as deputy minister of finance. Kudakwashe Mnangagwa is the Zanu-PF youth quota MP in the Midlands province. The youth quota, is made up of 10 candidates aged 21-35, chosen by proportional representation based on the constituency votes.

Mnangagwa also appointed his nephew, Tongai Mnangagwa, as the deputy minister of tourism. Controversial minister Barbara Rwodzi was appointed minister of tourism. She caused a stir in June when she hurled insults at a senior police officer for investigating Zanu-PF activists.

Mthuli Ncube has been retained as the country’s finance minister. The former Oxford University professor has dismally failed to revive the country’s economy as the Zimbabwe dollar has continued to weaken and inflation has reached triple digits.

Kirsty Coventry has been reappointed as the country’s sports minister despite being among the most underperforming ministers. During her five years as cabinet minister, in 2020, Zimbabwe was banned from hosting international soccer games by the Confederation of African Football because of substandard stadiums. In 2022, Zimbabwe was banned for 18 months by Fifa, football’s governing body, over government interference in the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa).

Addressing journalists at State House, Mnangagwa when asked why he has reappointed Coventry said he was happy with how she has performed in government.

“I have reappointed her because l am happy with her performance. Whoever was not impressed by her can appoint someone else when they become president,” he said.

There are no members of the opposition in the cabinet.

Mnangagwa said he doesn’t need to appoint the opposition.

“The opposition would enjoy to be in actual opposition, rather than be in government then fail to do their opposition,” said Mnangagwa.

Douglas Mombeshora is the country’s new minister of health, relieving vice-president Constantino Chiwenga who served a dual role as health minister. Mombeshora was deputy health minister during the country’s typhoid outbreak from October 2011 to June 2012.

LET US STOP FILTERING ZAMBIA THROUGH EITHER THE PF OR UPND LENSES! THE ‘TIT FOR TAT’ POLITICS OF RETRIBUTION CURRENTLY BEING PRACTISED WILL NOT DEVELOP ZAMBIA! – CHISHALA KATEKA

12 September, 2023.

Under the Patriotic Front (PF) Government, we saw a number of things happening, that ought not to have happened.

We saw Hakainde Hichilema in opposition being stopped from going to certain radio stations, being stopped from attending a church service in Chingola, being stopped from holding rallies, an attempt to block him entering Eastern immediately prior to the elections and also receiving a threat to the effect that he would be imprisoned after the elections whilst regionalism was being practised.

What is surprising is that we are now seeing exactly the same things happening under Hakainde Hichilema’s watch. We have seen that ECL has also experienced not being allowed to attend a church service in Ndola, the PF not allowed to hold a rally, while the UPND go ahead to hold rallies, ECL is also being threatened with being ‘fyanta-ed pamukoshi’ for trying to regroup, while it is no secret that regionalism is rife.

No one is in no doubt that the PF did not conduct themselves in a manner that was acceptable to Zambians and they have paid the high price, for their arrogance and the taking of Zambians for granted, by being voted out of office.

We thus expected the UPND to chart a very different path to that of the PF. Alas, we are seeing more of the same type of retributory behaviour.

The level of hardship being faced by Zambians is both unprecedented and unacceptable requiring the UPND Government to fully occupy itself with its resolution. For the UPND to occupy itself with the fixing of its perceived enemies, does not gain them anything aside from their inner satisfaction. In fact, it detracts from whatever they try to do in terms of nation building. It demeans them in the eyes of the Zambians, reflects badly on the Republican President and in fact builds up their so called enemies.

The UPND has, two years into their tenure in office, not impressed Zambians at all, with their performance nor their inability to handle the high cost of living. It really does not augur well for them to be seen to be side-tracking from the issues that really matter and should be focusing on.

To this effect, we at New Heritage Party, are beseeching the UPND to rise above the need for retribution and focus on resolving the myriad of issues facing the nation and that require their immediate and focused attention. The best way for the UPND to effectively get their revenge on the PF is to perform way beyond expectation, reduce the cost of living and succeed where the PF failed, thus showing up the former.

JAY-Z’S APOLOGY TO NAS MADE ROC-A-FELLA ‘LOOK CRAZY,’ SAYS DAME DASH

Dame Dash has reflected on JAY-Z and Nas‘ beef and believes Hov’s apology made Roc-A-Fella “look crazy.”

The Roc-A-Fella co-founder was a guest on The CEO Show alongside fashion icon Willie Esco, where he spoke about his admiration for Escobar and how he’s maintained his integrity throughout his 30-year career.

During the conversation, Dame Dash also shared his reaction to Nas name-dropping him on his iconic JAY-Z diss track, “Ether.”

“I was in shock but I was happy. I wasn’t hurt,” he said. “I’ma tell you right now what happened. I was hyped that he said my name but also I knew what homie was doing and I thought it was a distraction. I’m like, ‘This is bubblegum shit.’

“I go to do a fucking Rocawear campaign in Arizona, with Freeway I think, he was there. I land and this dumb shit is on the radio and we took an L because he got in this man’s emotions.”

Dame continued: “Yo, I fuck with Nas. I think he’s one of the cooler ones. You see how cool somebody is when they’re older. It’s easy to be cool when you 21. Like, reckless — you supposed to be that. But sometimes after 30, you don’t change your jeans and your cut is different and you start to get corny and you don’t even know it.

“You stay in that moment in time. It’s not your high school days — you don’t wear the same cut jeans you had back with you was rolling. So I think he’s evolved well. I never look at him and think he’s some place he shouldn’t be. I look at the investments and the things that he does, and then he says my name sometimes.

“But he’s one of the dudes that I consider straight vinyl – pure Hip Hop, unadulterated. I haven’t seen him do nothing corny, so I have a respect for him. And plus, he got at homie. He was the only person I ever seen really rattle him like that. Yo, bro, I couldn’t even talk to this dude, for three weeks I didn’t talk to Jay about any of that shit.”

Dame Dash then recalled his reaction to JAY-Z’s apology to Nas and said he puts the blame on Irv Gotti.

“When he apologized and shit, I was like, ‘No!’” he said. “I was hitting him from the thing like, ‘Get off the radio! We looking crazy!’ And Irv did that shit. A Queens n-gga, he gave him — pause — the banana in the tailpipe. That was a Queens thing — he didn’t even see that. Yo Irv, stay out my business.”

Hov’s apology, which came during an appearance on Hot 97 in December 2001, was prompted by a phone call from his mother, Gloria Carter, who did not approve of her son’s crude shots on his “Ether” response, “Supa Ugly.”

The diss track included lines about having sex with Nas’ baby mother, Carmen Bryan, in the back of his car and leaving “condoms on your baby seat.”

“Mom put in a call and said, ‘That went too far.’ And she’s never, ever called me about music,” JAY-Z told Angie Martinez on air. “So I was like ‘Okay, okay, okay. I’ll go shut it down.’”

He added: “Once again, I apologize. I felt like I didn’t think about women’s feelings or [Nas’ former girlfriend’s] feelings, or even my mom. It was really like, ‘Let me meet your level of disrespect with this level of disrespect.’”

During a separate interview earlier this year, Dame Dash tore into his former business partner by saying JAY-Z’s response to Nas was “terrible” and that Escobar came out on top in their feud.

“Jay’s response was terrible,” he said on the That’s F***ed Up Podcast. “The thing is, we had first hit him with the joint at Summer Jam that was kinda hard, the ‘Takeover.’ But when [Nas] came with the ‘Ether,’ I was kinda hype because he said my name. I was like, ‘I guess I’m in a rap record.’

“But the response, I wasn’t there for the response. I had landed, Irv Gotti fucked that one up. Every time Irv Gotti got in my business, he fucked shit up … He threw that ‘Ether’ on him. He had him apologizing. The rap that he did was wack — when I heard it, I was pissed.

“I was coming from doing a Rocawear ad on a private [jet]. I had just landed from like Arizona and I’m listening to this shit on the radio like, ‘What the fuck is this?’ So I was like, ‘Go to the fucking Baseline [Studios],’ you know, ’cause I wanna know what happened. I’m like, ‘What the fuck happened?’

“And they in there high-fiving and shit. I’m like, ‘What you high-fiving for? This shit is wack.’ This n-gga talking about other n-ggas’ business and shit, like we don’t do that. And it was Irv. I was like, ‘Irv Gotti.’ I called Irv, told him don’t ever get in my business again bro, like, ‘What you doing? You not about war.’”

He added: “You see how his wars go with rap — he doesn’t win it. He’s not a general like that. So it was like, stay out of my business. And Irv keeps talking about me all the time, like stop talking about me, Irv.”- hiphopdx

The Dpp Is Shielding The Careless, Rabble-rousing Inspector General Of Police From Prosecution- Fred M’membe

THE DPP IS SHIELDING THE CARELESS, RABBLE-ROUSING INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE FROM PROSECUTION

As we have repeatedly pointed out, it is a well-known fact that throughout history, those who administer or control the criminal justice system hold the power with the potential for abuse and tyranny.

Since all criminal prosecutions can only be carried out by them or with their consent, they choose who to prosecute or to exempt from prosecution. Their cadres, supporters, and all members of their league get away with many crimes.

Therefore, the exercise of power must be a constant practice of self-limitation and modesty.

Director of Public Prosecutions’ Mr Gilbert Phiri’s decision to reject our application to conduct prosecution in the matter involving the Inspector General of Police Mr Graphel Musamba is most unfortunate and an abuse of the judicial process.

Yesterday, September 11, the DPP wrote to us citing public interest considerations as the reason to deny our request to prosecute Mr Musamba.

This decision by Mr Phiri exposes inherent bias, not only of the DPP, but that of the Attorney General as well and their allegiance towards the UPND government and those it subsequently appoints to serve in public offices, like Mr Musamba.

The closeness of the DPP and the Attorney General to the UPND is not in dispute.

Public interest considerations are a product of a request by the Attorney General to the DPP.

In broader terms, what they are seeking is to protect both Mr Musamba and the Commander- in- Chief, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, who is the DPP’s former client by the way, from potential embarrassment after the Inspector General of Police’s misconduct.

Without a doubt, this decision is a calculated attempt meant to act as a “political shield” against the potentially embarrassing circumstances that Mr Musamba has found himself in.

We note that Mr Phiri’s reasoning is carefully couched in broad and undefined terms like “public interest”, which when carefully looked at may amount to nothing but serving political interests.

They are not saying that we have no good complaint against Mr Musamba. They are simply saying that in the “public interest” it will not be good for Mr Musamba to be prosecuted. But is it really in the “public interest” for Mr Musamba to criminally defame citizens with impunity? Isn’t this placing themselves above the reach of the law?

At the same time, the DPP is, without reservations or public interest considerations, prosecuting all those who are believed to have defamed members of their league.

We are being prosecuted for defaming Deputy Inspector General of Police In-Charge of Operations Mr Milner Muyambango, but we cannot be allowed to prosecute the IG for defaming us? Is there fairness, justice in this?

Ms Saboi Imboela is being prosecuted by the DPP for defaming a State House assistant, Mr Clayson Hamasaka. Mr Munir Zulu is being prosecuted by the DPP for defaming some ministers.

This is how they are abusing their administration of the criminal justice system.

What are our options?

ZANU PF Sends Chilling Death Threats To President Hichilema

ZANU PF SENDS CHILLING DEATH THREATS TO PRESIDENT HICHILEMA

“Those with eyes, let them ‘eye’ “.

By Patrick Chinamasa ZANU-PF Treasure

“For those who don’t know the late Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa, let me fill you in about him. During his tenure of office as Zambian President, he became the darling of Western countries and, cheered on by these sanctions-imposing countries, became very hostile towards Zimbabwe and ZANUPF. He went further than mere rhetoric and, working in cahoots with Tony Blair, had agreed to a Tony Blair proposal to use Zambia as a base for British Military Forces to launch a military offensive against Zimbabwe with a view to reversing the land redistribution program and effecting regime change.

Zimbabwe picked up the intelligence about the hostile intentions of Blair and Mwanawasa.

To beef up and bolster the strength of the delegation, President Mugabe sent President ED Mnangagwa (then Speaker of the National Assembly) to join the delegation. The Emergency Summit started around 3 pm on Saturday, 12 April 2008, and went on nonstop into and throughout the night until it adjourned on Sunday, 13 July 2008, around 6 am. Cde Mnangagwa’s inclusion in the delegation was a masterstroke. It saved the day solely because he was personally known to Mwanawasa. I assumed then (which I have not verified) that Cde Mnangagwa and Mwanawasa were either classmates or contemporaries at the Law School at the University of Zambia. Mwanawasa’s venom and hostility were evident and palpable, but in the early hours of Sunday, while not yielding his ground, Mwanawasa was purely out of respect for Cde Mnangagwa, beginning to treat the delegation with a modicum of civility.

The Lusaka Emergency SADC summit was inconclusive, and Mwanawasa made it known that he was taking the matter to the AU Summit to be held at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. Mwanawasa suffered a stroke, and that put an end to the regime change agenda as a SADC-initiated project at the behest of Tony Blair. Rev. Nevers Mumba is making a spirited attempt to take the regime change agenda from where Mwanawasa left it. Like Mwanawasa before him, he will not succeed in his evil intent. He does not know what mettle Zimbabweans are made of.

Mumba is a complete disgrace and an embarrassment to the region and the African Continent as a whole. It was very unwise and unpolitic for President Hichilema as Head of SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security to appoint Mumba, a lackey of imperialism and neocolonialism with a known regime change background (against ZANUPF), to come and observe Zimbabwe’s Harmonised Elections. President Hichilema did, wittingly or unwittingly through Mumba’s appointment, stoke the fires of Western-inspired regime change in Zimbabwe and will live to regret it. President Hichilema’s previous known political association with Chamisa creates unwholesome perceptions about his intentions towards Zimbabwe and ZANUPF.

Those who have eyes, let them “eye,” and those who have ears, let them “ear.” Nokuti hatigoni kurega kutaura zvatakaona nezvotakanzwa.”

Congratulations Hon. Raphael Nakachinda: A well deserved appointment

By Dr Mwelwa

In these tumultuous times for the Patriotic Front (PF), it is becoming increasingly clear that their attitude towards critics and those with differing viewpoints is one of their biggest downfalls. This very attitude has already cost them their hold on power, and if they continue to dismiss the perspectives of others, it will hinder their chances of returning to office.

As an observer and critic myself, I recently attended a funeral where I witnessed this dismissive behavior firsthand. Senior members of the PF couldn’t even muster a simple greeting. When I tried to extend my hand to congratulate Mr. Nakachinda, he turned away as if I were a complete stranger.

Yes, I may be a critic, but when something good happens to someone, it should be an opportunity to put differences aside, shake hands, and offer congratulations. It is with this mindset that I acknowledge and congratulate Hon. Raphael Mangani Nakachinda on his well-deserved appointment as the Patriotic Front Secretary General. His undeniable abilities and accomplishments have earned him this esteemed position.

However, I urge caution when celebrating this appointment. Not because Hon. Nakachinda lacks the qualifications, but rather because it may cause further legal battles within the party. While it is imperative to fill vacant positions, the highest priority at this moment in history should be to hold the PF National Convention, scheduled for the end of next month.

Why has the Vice President rushed to make these appointments while he himself is still embroiled in a legal battle over his acting position? The answer lies in the Alebwelelapo agenda. This appointment did not come as a surprise; the letter was written weeks before Antonio Mwanza resigned as Media Director. The timing of this appointment seems to align perfectly with the script of the Alebwelelapo agenda.

Now, how will this impact the eight or nine presidential bids within the party? Some may be promised jobs to secure their loyalty, while others may find themselves cast aside. In the coming days, I will make some of my predictions known to the public.

In light of these developments, it is crucial that the PF takes a bold step and calls for a National Convention. This is not just about rebranding the party; it is about demonstrating the courage to address internal differences and collectively pave the way for a stronger future. Without a National Convention, the party will likely face even more legal battles and find it challenging to regain public trust.

Rebranding starts with self-reflection, open dialogue, and a willingness to embrace diverse opinions. It is time for the Patriotic Front to seize this opportunity for genuine change and unity. The call for a National Convention is not a sign of weakness but of strength. It shows the party’s commitment to rebuilding, restructuring, and reconnecting with its supporters.

Let us hope that the PF can rise above its past mistakes and embrace the spirit of inclusivity. Only then can they truly begin the process of rebranding and chart a new course towards a better future.

Two years of HH has brought a wave of optimism to Zambia

Analyts anticipate that mining investors will flock to Zambia, still one of the biggest copper producers globally, especially since President Hakainde Hichilema came into office in August 2021 and announced a range of incentives, such as a sliding royalty rate for mines, to lure back investors.

Hichilema, or ‘HH’ as the investor community call him, has announced that he wants Zambia’s mining sector to be the country’s foremost revenue generator. He subsequently set a target to increase its copper production from 800,000 tons a year to three million tons a year in the next three years – a bold aim, especially since the Konkola and Mopani copper mines haven’t resumed production yet.

But overall, Zambia’s mining sector appears to be on track for renewed activity from international mining companies. In 2022, First Quantum Minerals announced $1.35bn worth of new projects in the country, while Anglo American announced a return to full-scale copper exploration after it signed a provisional joint-venture agreement with Aim-listed mining and exploration company Arc Minerals. In addition, KoBold Metals, a Californian-based metals explorer, is busy raising $200m to develop the copper reserves it recently acquired in Zambia, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The projects announced by both these miners are a sure vote of confidence in the Hichilema administration.

Exploration is an equally important aspect of Hichilema’s investment drive into Zambia’s minerals sector and the government is currently doing geological mapping for the remaining 45% of the country, while the existing 55% will be updated.

Unfortunately, Hichilema has also had to deal with numerous problems since he took over the reins from the Lungu presidency, an era in which mining companies faced insecurity of tenure, high royalty rates, and the withholding of VAT refunds.

Delivering on promises has been harder and slower than anticipated, says Marcus Courage, CEO of Africa Practice. It has involved drawn-out negotiations with creditors for debt restructuring, cleaning up the country’s cadastral system after widespread licensing corruption, restructuring Mopani, settling the Konkola disputes, and addressing the power crisis. “These things are all taking much longer than anticipated,” says Courage.

The mining cadastre was subject to a detailed audit over eight months. They went through every single major licence with a fine toothcomb and threw out those that hadn’t been properly awarded – Nick con Schirnding

The administration is doing its best to clean up various practices and set the country on a new course, says Nick von Schirnding, director and executive chairperson of Arc Minerals. “But changing a supertanker takes time.”

Investor perception also takes time to change, and the dubious way in which mining and exploration licences were acquired under the Lungu presidency could still deter investors. Also, under previous presidencies, mining rights were at times taken away. “This can put investors off. Once bitten, twice shy,” said one mining executive who asked to remain anonymous.

The best thing Zambia can do for its investor community is secure a stable policy environment, even though its taxes are some of the highest in the world.

Peter Leon, partner and Africa chairperson at Herbert Smith Freehills, said the country’s debt issues have not been a significant deterrent for would-be investors, but rather its ever-changing royalty rates, which needs to be fixed.

Leon’s view is that Zambia’s mineral legislation is sound, the government is committed to good governance and the rule of law, while the country has a lot more policy certainty than South Africa.

Time is of the essence though. There is a question mark over how realistic a three million tons a year copper production target is, says Leon. He also notes that Hichilema has two years left in office and if the economy hasn’t grown as he has promised he might not be re-elected, although Zambia’s recent debt deal is just what is needed.

A rosy future?

The good news is that, after lengthy negotiations that lasted close to three years, Zambia finally secured a deal on 22 June to restructure its more than $6bn debt. In terms of the restructuring agreement, Zambia’s debt will be rearranged over more than 20 years with a three-year grace period during which only payments on interest are due, Reuters reports. The agreement with its official creditors means the country will receive a $188 million loan from the International Monetary Fund as part of a $1.3bn package that was approved in August 2022.

There are also indications that the long-standing issues with Konkola and Mopani respectively will be resolved by the end of 2023. An insider close to the process said an agreement between Vedanta and Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines, which is 77%-government-owned, is imminent on Konkola. “In government we’re saying: ‘You can’t mine in the courts.’ You have to be pragmatic. The negotiations have been difficult, but the intention is to reach an agreement by the end of the year.”

Konkola currently produces less than 100,000 tons of copper a year, because of a lack of investment. But once a deal has been concluded, the Konkola Deep Mining Project, which has a nameplate capacity of 300,000 tons a year, can be initiated.

With Mopani the process is less complicated, and the Zambian government is currently in possession of bids from four shortlisted potential buyers: China’s Zijin Mining and Norinco Group, Sibanye- Stillwater, and an investment vehicle owned by former Glencore employees. A final bid will take place in mid-July and a deal is expected to be in place in October this year. Mopani’s production is currently around 80,000 tons a year – a far cry from its potential 225,000 tons.

“We have seen similar moves in Botswana and Namibia towards transparency through a public mining cadastre — and even some movement in South Africa in this direction. So Zambia’s success in rolling out this facility certainly seems to be having a positive effect across the region — Desmond Mossop, SRK.

Both Konkola and Mopani are in the fortunate position that they’re not resource-constrained and with more investment, production could be ramped up.

With the clean-up of Zambia’s mining cadastral portal completed, the country is well-positioned to attract new investment, says Courage. “The queues outside the cadastre office stretched around the block.”

“We have seen similar moves in Botswana and Namibia towards transparency through a public mining cadastre — and even some movement in South Africa in this direction,” says SRK Consulting partner Desmond Mossop. “So Zambia’s success in rolling out this facility certainly seems to be having a positive effect across the region.”

Von Schirnding says he is thoroughly impressed with the speed with which the Zambian government is turning things around. “The mining cadastre was subject to a detailed audit over eight months. They went through every single major licence with a fine toothcomb and threw out those that hadn’t been properly awarded. They replaced almost the entire staff complement of that office. It’s real proof that there’s a desire to change.”

Zambia and the DRC’s plans for collaboration on electric vehicle battery production are also gaining momentum, with the US and Afreximbank “waiting in the wings” to provide concessional funding. Feasibility studies are being conducted to establish two special economic zones for battery manufacturing purposes, Courage adds.

“Many of the world’s largest mining companies like what they hear from Hichilema. They see a government that understands the needs of investors. The president recognises the opportunity to capitalise on the surging demand for copper,” says Courage.

Hichilema is a breath of fresh air, says Von Schirnding. “The government is being very sensible and proactive. When you operate in any jurisdiction you need an established mining framework which governs the awarding of licences and mining regulations. The second thing is you need the rule of law that will enforce those regulations. Those are the key building blocks when entering into any country.”

COURT ORDERS FOR TRIAL WITHIN TRIAL IN ZUMANI TERRORISM CASE

COURT ORDERS FOR TRIAL WITHIN TRIAL IN ZUMANI TERRORISM CASE

AN assistant commissioner of police for Muchinga division headquarters has told the Lusaka High court that two of Zumani Zimba’s co -accused informed him that the latter had supplied them with the chemicals that were in their possession.

This is in a matter where Zimba and three others are facing charges of chemical gassing.

Zimba who served as Edgar Lungu’s political advisor is accused of aiding terrorism acts when he allegedly engineered the gassing of homes, schools and work premises which the citizenry was subjected to in the PF regime.

He is jointly charged with Given Phiri, Marlone Banda and Portipher Gwai, who are facing charges of possessing and procuring terrorism articles.

Testifying before judge Koreen Mwenda,
Kenneth Nkhuwa said on February 23, 2020 the district chief investigations officer received intelligence information that two police officers at Sinda’s police station attempted to extort money from accused persons who were detained for obtaining money by false pretenses.

He said he went to the said police station for a fact finding mission and led the team of four police officers.

He said when he got to the said police station, he interviewed Sarah Chishiba a business lady from Serenje and Given Phiri and Marlone Banda who were supposed to supply already made mercury to a customer.

Nkhuwa said Phiri and Banda identified themselves as public workers.

“Marlone Banda identified himself as a civil servant under the ministry of home affairs. Given Phiri said he was attached to the office of the president and is a nephew of the former president Edgar Lungu,” he explained.

“I raised eyebrows by the fact that civil servants don’t engage in illicit business. I doubted their identity and I told myself I would call the office of president and identify their true identity.”

He said whilst at the police station the officer in charge received a phone call that there was disturbance within Sinda town and needed to dispatch officers.

Nkhuwa said the police vehicle that was parked at the station was blocked by Banda and Phiri’s vehicle and the officers were given the keys so that they could move it but they failed to drive it.

He indicated that Banda requested for the keys so that he could drive the vehicle and at the same time Phiri asked to be excused as he wanted to relieve himself.

Nkhuwa said the duo eluded the police which raised concern because it was not regarded as suspects in any case.

“We suspected there was something sinister when they tried to run away from the police yet they were not suspects. I informed inspector Chanda to mount a road block on great east road,” he said.

“During that period we received reports of gruesome murder cases on suspicion that the people who were found loitering at night were gassers. A young man who had travelled to Katete to marry and engaged an old lady to find him a wife was murdered in cold blood.”

He said in Mugubudu area some boys from Malawi who had crossed to Zambia for piece work were beaten to the pulp by a mob when they asked for water from a certain lady’s house.

“The lady pretended to get a cup but went to inform other people. We rushed there to assist them escape through Mwami border to ensure their safety. Three police stations Chanida, Zozwe closer to Mozambique and Nyimba bus station police post, were burnt by the public as they were annoyed at the police for keeping people they suspected to be gassers.”

Nkhuwa narrated that Chipata Police Camp was equally not spared from gassing.

He said he received a call from detective chief inspector Chanda informing him that the mark X was impounded and the occupants were detained.

“The vehicle was searched and officers said they found suspected chemicals in two bottles and body spray, used oil and 15 membership cards for the UPND. I informed my superiors and force headquarters as the incidents were heinous they needed to know what was happening on the ground,” he said.

He said based on the items the accused were found in possession with the police suspected Banda and Phiri to be behind the gassing incidents.

“The container indicated inhalation coupled with body spray it rang bells that those were the suspects behind the gassing. I suspected they were gassers, we warned and cautioned them verbally and interrogated them in relation to the gassing,”Nkhuwa disclosed.

“I learned through the accused that they acquired the suspected chemicals from a Mr Zumani Zimba who was at that time working at UTH and acted with Gwai and they were promised K500,000 if they succeeded to ….”

At this point the accused lawyer Makebi Zulu raised an objection questioning the voluntariness of the statement.

Deputy chief State advocate Chipola Bako in reply indicated that the accused were not coerced to give the said statement.

Judge Mwenda ordered for a trial within trial to inquire into the voluntariness of the statements given by the accused.

Earlier Lorie Musonda who was a chief inspector under the Anit-robbery unit in Chipata then said Banda and Phiri did not possess Deep 600 among the items that were seized from Banda and Phiri.

He said among the items he seized was ; Halothane, Faron was used NRC, Used oil, Hand sanitizer, 15 UPND membership cards, a cigarette lighter, Hauwei phone belonging to Marlone and an infinite phone belonging to Given Phiri, a bluetooth speaker, a black wallet, driver’s license, laptop bag containing clothes, company documents and rodenticide.

Musonda mistakenly identified the accused in Court as he pointed at Zumani and Gwai as the owners of seized items.

In cross examination the officer said the items in question were not before court as exhibits.

Paul Ngoma a resident of Petauke said Phiri offered him a K5000 on conditions that he convinces Nephat Banda who was elected councilor of Lusinde ward on the UPND ticket to defect to the PF.

He said Phiri promised to send a chopper to take them to State House if he managed to convince Banda to return to PF.

“I called Nephat Banda we met at Zonse supermarket and told him that Given wanted him to return to PF but he refused citing poor conditions of service,”said Ngoma

“I called Given and told him Nephat had refused since then I never communicated with Him.”

The matter come up today for a trial within trial.

UPND NEEDS OPEN HEART SURGERY- Macpherson Mutale

0

Macphersson Mutale writes

UPND NEEDS OPEN HEART SURGERY.

Disclaimer: this is not about ALL citizens but I address myself to UPND members and sympathizers.

“Previously I mentioned that if there was something that would kill the United Party for National Development, it would be self poisoning.

UPND will eat itself inside out. There is too much greedy and selfishness among the top leadership in the party neglecting the party structures.

Sadly there is also tribalism and regionalism within the party. These are hard truths many are not willing to talk about publicly, but it’s as real as daylight.

The president has isolated himself from the party and doesn’t seem to feel duty bound to help his own party. When you look at the UPND today, it’s a shadow of its former self and partly President Hichilema is responsible for that.

Then you have the secretariat that is so disoriented and disorganized it doesn’t seem to know whether it’s coming or going. Just look at the offices, they seem as though they are a shelter for the homeless.

The people running the secretariat can’t even stay at those offices in preference for private offices where they can strike private deals that benefit only themselves and not the party.

Then you have all those who have been appointed. Most of them seem to have reached their destinations in life and they can’t wish for anything more.

For some, being called an MP, a Minister, Mayor, Council Chairman, PS … etc was their ultimate dream in life. They have so easily forgotten where they came from.

The deals in this country are being done at a very high level. The ministers and other very senior leaders are the ones benefiting and nothing for the ordinary cadres.

CDF in its current state is only meant for those who were empowered previously by the PF. The cadres of UPND have no capacity to participate.

While the common party cadres are being promised a better tomorrow, their leaders have infiltrated all institutions eating everything. This time, there is no sign of even crumbs like what used to fall from the tables of the PF elites.

The ordinary party members are so frustrated and disappointed though some won’t say it openly. They are more destitute now than even when they were in the opposition. Even those who used to help them now mock them that they are in power they should be providers.

While there is a resounding claim that the party and the administration is fighting corruption, there is stinking corruption in most of the the public institutions.

The 20% facilitation fee is the most annoying trend. When people and organizations provide a service or product to the government, to get the money, you have to pay someone 20% or you will forever be on the waiting list being told there are no funds.

Corruption has become embedded in all procurement processes. Corruption is still very institutionalized by public servants who work in collusion with high ranking party and government officials.

Sadly while all these things are happening, the party is slowly bleeding to death. The UPND can’t even afford to rent offices for the structures. The members can’t even approach their councillors because they are just as disillusioned.

The UPND need an urgent heart surgery. They need to be honest and confront the elephant in the room. Their members are suffering. They need to do something about that.

They need to introspect and find a solution to the challenges of greedy and selfishness. They need to find a solution to the issue of financial crisis within the party. They need to address tribalism and regionalism within their ranks.

If this is not done, the consequences will be severe especially for some of the councillors and MPs. While president HH could have a chance of returning his presidency, most of his MPs unfortunately may lose their seats.

The CDF is more useful to opposition MPs than it is to the ruling MPs and this will be a game changer that would disadvantage the UPND MPs.

There is nothing more important in partisan politics than making sure that the members are kept happy. Party membership is voluntary and when one’s aspiring are not being met, they can easily move on without even announcing as the vote is secret.

The UPND has to realize that the Party is a living organism and needs to outlive the electoral mandate of 5 year terms.”

Zambian Government Signs MoU with Huawei to Promote Digital Transformation

[Shenzhen, China, 11 September 2023] Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Zambia and Huawei, which will promote the country’s digital transformation.

The agreement was signed by Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati and Huawei’s Vice President of Southern Africa Region Phil Li, at Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China aimed at realizing a digitalized future for Zambia by improving ICT infrastructure, promoting the adoption of renewable energy, supporting innovation, and expanding access to reliable and affordable digital services across the country.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, President Hichilema stated that, “We recognise the urgent need to rapidly develop our country’s digital platforms as part of our smart economic transformation agenda. We therefore consider Huawei as a reliable partner in this regard, with their innovations and pioneering strength in ICT technologies driven by its heavy R&D investment.”

He also congratulated Huawei on its achievements in cultivating Zambia’s ICT talents, “We look forward to working with Huawei even more closely to foster a flourishing ICT ecosystem in Zambia.”

Speaking at the event, Leo Chen, Huawei’s President of Southern Africa Region, stated that the agreement marks a new milestone in the collaboration between the Zambian government and Huawei. He also said that, inspired by the Zambian government’s vision of achieving its Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP), Huawei is fully committed to contributing more to Zambia’s industry digitalization and ICT infrastructure development, especially in rural areas.

Mr. Chen also emphasized the importance of building a flourishing ICT talent ecosystem to underpin the country’s future development. “Huawei is fully behind the Zambian government’s commitment to equip its younger generations with digital skills. Huawei will continuously provide training to young people in Zambia so they can participate in and benefit from the digital economy,” said Chen.

Since establishing its first office in Zambia in 2004, Huawei has been working with partners to provide digital services and build secure and stable ICT infrastructure including data centres and wireless networks such as 4G and 5G.

In the MOU, the two parties agreed to promote rural connectivity. Hundreds of villages across Zambia are expected to benefit from it.

“Inclusive connectivity allows the government to deliver better services, businesses to achieve better growth, and people to live better lives. Therefore, we must continue to enhance the inclusiveness of digital infrastructure and digital services, which is one of the key elements of the MoU that we signed today,” said the Minister Mutati.

Zim, Zambia relations turn icy

RELATIONS between Zimbabwe and Zambia turned icy yesterday after President Hichilema Hakainde’s United Party for National Development (UPND) supporters denounced the ruling Zanu PF at the re-opening of the Kongola copper mines in Chingola and Chililabombwe in the Copperbelt province.

The supporters, according to videos circulating on social media, accused Zanu PF functionaries, including secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa, of trying to destabilise its northern neighbour.

Hichilema, who is the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) Troika on Politics, Defence and Security chairperson, deployed former Zambian Vice-President Nevers Mumba to head the region’s observer mission to Zimbabwe’s elections last month.

The Sadc Troika is a group established to respond swiftly to political emergencies in the region.

Mumba’s Sadc election observer mission released a damning report stating that the Zimbabwean elections did not meet democratic standards set by the region and the international community.

Hichilema boycotted Mnangagwa’s inauguration held at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Monday last week.

Mnangagwa, instead, invited Hichilema’s predecessor and foe, Edgar Lungu, to his inauguration.

Since the damning report, officials in Harare have gone on overdrive trying to discredit Hichilema and Mumba, who they have described as “Western puppets”, which has soured relations between the two nations formerly joined at the hip in the colonial era as Southern and Northern Rhodesia.

UPND secretary-general Batuke Imenda confirmed the protests to NewsDay in a telephone interview saying: “Yes, there were some protests, but I am very sick, I am admitted to a hospital in the Eastern province.”

UPND party spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa was not answering his mobile phone.

The protesters targeted Chinamasa and a South Africa-based Zanu PF sympathiser, Rutendo Matinyarare, accusing them of allegedly planning to eliminate the Zambian President.

They were singing in Bemba saying leave “our President alone”.

Dozens of Hichilema supporters marched in Ndola, chanting slogans and carrying placards with messages denouncing the alleged interference by Zanu PF in Zambia’s internal affairs.

Some of the placards read: “We want to know why you wanted to kill President Hakainde Hichilema as alleged in your statement.”

Another poster read: “We demand an explanation on how President Levy Mwanawasa was killed.”

The protesters also accused Zanu PF of providing financial and logistical support to the Patriotic Front (PF) led by Lungu in an attempt to eliminate Hichilema.

“PF, you went to Zimbabwe to instigate foreigners to harm HH,” read another placard.

Another one posed the question: “Did you kill Mwanawasa? Are you planning to do the same on HH?”

Other protesters held posters emblazoned: “Kekeni bapresident besu benka (leave our President alone.”

Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa referred NewsDay to Chinamasa.

Chinamasa was not picking calls.

However, in a long-winding thread on X (formerly Twitter), which was picked by the Zambian Observer newspaper, Chinamasa accused Mwanawasa of working with “imperialists” to effect regime change in Harare.

He also accused Hichilema and Mumba of trying to revive the regime change agenda of the late Mwanawasa.

“For those who don’t know the late Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa, let me fill you in about him. During his tenure of office as Zambian President, he became the darling of Western countries and, cheered on by these sanctions-imposing countries, became very hostile towards Zimbabwe and Zanu PF,” Chinamasa wrote.

He also accused Mwanawasa of working in cahoots with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

“He (Mwanawasa) had agreed to a Tony Blair proposal to use Zambia as a base for British military forces to launch a military offensive against Zimbabwe with a view to reversing the land redistribution programme and effecting regime change.

“Mumba is a complete disgrace and an embarrassment to the region and the African continent as a whole. It was very unwise and unpolitic for President Hichilema as head of Sadc Organ on Politics, Defence and Security to appoint Mumba, a lackey of imperialism and neocolonialism with a known regime change background (against Zanu PF), to come and observe Zimbabwe’s harmonised elections.”- newsday

ZIMBABWE ACCUSSES ZAMBIA OF TREACHERY

ZIMBABWE ACCUSSES ZAMBIA OF TREACHERY

HARARE – A Zimbabwe government spokesman on Saturday appeared to accuse Zambia of “treacherous lobbying” of fellow SADC countries to convene an extraordinary summit over Zimbabwe’s disputed election.

Without naming Zambia – the target of rising rhetoric by aides of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Ndavaningi Mangwana said:

“There is some treacherous lobbying going on by one SADC member state to have an extraordinary summit on Zimbabwe. The other members are seeing through this and it’s not going to happen.

“This agenda being pushed by this member state is not its own. It’s doing a hatchet job for some powerful nations.”

Zambian president Hakainde Hichilema is the head of the SADC troika, set up to respond quickly to developing political emergencies in the region.

Hichilema, in his SADC role, gave the region’s election observer mission it’s marching orders before its deployment to observe Zimbabwe’s August 23 elections.

The team, headed by Zambia’s former vice president Nevers Mumba, issued a damning report, concluding that the poll did not meet regional and international standards on democratic elections.

Hichilema boycotted Mnangagwa’s inauguration on September 4 amid escalating tensions with his southern neighbour. To spite him, Mnangagwa invited Hichilema’s predecessor Edgar Lungu to the inauguration.

Zimbabwe’s former foreign minister Walter Mzembi said Saturday: “If we fail to contain and manage domestic issues at home, they become neighbours’ business. If we domesticate and ratify regional treaties and protocols, they become part of our laws. Submitting to regional peer review is a strength not a weakness.

“A member state or states can place a member on an agenda or the member state itself can self-sponsor, it’s perfectly fine and not treachery. What is important is not to behave in a manner that leaves member states with no choice than to place a member on an agenda.

“The Zimbabwe government attitude should be ‘bring it on’ if it is standing on solid ground, and prepare its own reports, rebuttals, counter lobby and acquit itself. Bravado or an ostrich mentality won’t help because this dispute can only be cured by dialogue.”

Hichilema is believed to have recently held a meeting with SADC chairman Felix Tshisekedi of DRC after receiving the final report of the SADC Election Observer Mission. It is these discussions that have alarmed Mnangagwa’s aides amid opposition demands for fresh elections under SADC and African Union supervision.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared winner with 52.6 percent of the vote, with challenger Nelson Chamisa polling 44 percent, according to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

Regional and international observer missions however said the elections were a sham, citing widespread voter intimidation, police bans on opposition rallies, delays in delivering ballot papers to opposition strongholds and the electoral commission’s lack of transparency. – ZimLive

“Putin poised me twice with nerve toxic but I will never stop fighting Vlad”-declares Russian activist Natalia Arno

0

A BRAVE Russian activist has vowed to never stop fighting against Putin’s regime despite being poisoned with nerve toxins twice after fleeing Russia.

Natalia Arno, founder of the Free Russia Foundation, faced decades of threats, harassment, and surveillance from Russian security services – and was eventually forced to leave her home country at gunpoint.

The 47-year-old was traveling through Europe in May when she was poisoned by an unknown nerve toxin – leaving her paralyzed with pain.

She spoke to The Sun’s new documentary Foreign Agents.

Foreign Agents will chronicle the lives of those forced to flee Russia by Vlad’s brutal rule.

“Kremlin’s regime is murderous. Transnational operations like this are a key tool for them,” Natalia told The Sun.

“The Kremlin has very long tentacles in the West. The enemy is too powerful. We should be smarter.”

On May 2, Natalia returned to her hotel room in Prague at 7.30 pm after a private event to find the door ajar – and immediately thought an FSB officer might be waiting for her.

She found everything as she left it – but noticed a “strange” perfume-like smell.

The hotel’s reception told her the maid probably left the door open and said they would look into it for her.

Natalia went to sleep for a couple of hours and woke up in agonizing pain – particularly in her teeth and tongue.

Assuming she was suffering from a dental problem, she took some painkillers.

But a few hours later, the pain worsened and started spreading through her body as her vision blurred and her arms and legs went numb.

Natalia waited to see a doctor and got on a flight back to the US, where she was rushed to hospital.

“I didn’t want to take any painkillers so I could have clean tests,” she said.

“My team members advised me to have tests for heavy metals and other kinds of possible poisons.”

After an investigation was launched, the FBI ruled out the use of Soviet-developed nerve agents – but her doctors and neurologist confirmed she was poisoned by “nerve toxins”.

Medics diagnosed Natalia with neuropathy – a type of nerve damage – which they say isn’t down to any natural cause and most likely caused by poisoning.

“I was surprised by the poisoning method they used, but I wasn’t surprised to be targeted by the Kremlin,” she said.

“It is scary, but when you are fighting for the cause, it’s our life, not our career. It’s a mission for us.”

Natalia said being targeted is a “badge of honor” for her – and will never let the Kremlin silence her.

“If the Kremlin targets us, we are doing a lot of effective things. We are the worst enemies of the Kremlin regime,” she said.

“But we think less about physical security. We thought if we fled Russia we would be safer.

“But unfortunately the Kremlin’s agents and networks can reach us even in those countries. We should be more disciplined and more prepared.”

Her case is still being investigated by US law enforcement agencies.

And it wasn’t the first time Natalia has been targeted.

Back in July 2021, she was at an event in Vilnius, Lithuania when she noticed a similar perfume-like smell in her room – and later broke out in a fever and a rash.

The Kremlin’s regime is murderous. Transnational operations like this are a key tool for them

Natalia Arno
She has been harassed by Russian security services for years – who eventually forced her to leave the country with her son.

“I was traveling all across Russia… we were discussing how to make Russia better. This was something Russia didn’t like,” she told The Sun.

“I knew all my emails were being read, all my phone conversations being recorded, they were always chasing me.

“I would go to a grocery store, the gym, they were everywhere. They told me they knew what colour underwear I was wearing because they had bugs in my bathroom.

“It was years and years of surveillance. I wasn’t worried about my safety but I have a son and they knew everything about my son.

“Back in Russia, there were times I would be forcibly put in a car, even near the US Embassy. There were times I was scared.

“I was used to such intimidation. I wasn’t surprised when I saw the guys in my apartment building.

“They told me I had 48 hours to leave or I would be in jail for a very long time.

“I was threatened and given a choice – be in jail for 20 years or I had 48 hours to pack and leave. So I chose freedom. I’m glad I’m still in this fight 10 years later.”

This happened in 2012 and Natalia left Russia to start a new life in the US.

The Free Russia Foundation supports Russian activists, journalists, and pro-democracy organizations.

It’s also currently working to get Ukrainian prisoners of war released from Russian captivity and advocating for Russians, Belarusians, and Kazakhs living in exile.

Natalia’s vice president, Vladimir Kara-Murza, has also been targeted, being poisoned twice with Novichok while traveling through Russia.

In April, Kara-Murza was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being arrested for speaking out against the war in Ukraine on MSNBC.

Critics of the Kremlin have long been targeted beyond the borders of Russia – with security agents reaching Western soil.

Former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal was poisoned by the nerve agent Novichok in Salisbury in the UK in March 2018.

The poisoning and death of Alexander Litvinenko in 2006 made headlines around the world.

Natalia Arno now lives in the United States after being forced to leave Russia.

North Korean leader reportedly travelling to meet Putin in an armoured train

0

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un has supposedly begun his trip to Vladivostok to meet with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

According to a South Korean government official, Mr Kim’s special train for international trips seems to have left Pyongyang.

The two leaders are going to meet on Tuesday, most likely.

The government of Russia, known as the Kremlin, has stated that Mr. Kim will be visiting their country soon.

If the meeting with Mr. Putin happens, it will be the first time the North Korean leader goes on a trip abroad in over four years, and the first time since the pandemic.

The two leaders will probably talk about North Korea giving weapons to Russia to help with its war in Ukraine, said a US official to CBS, the BBC’s US partner.

Mr Kim traveled to Vladivostok in 2019 for his first meeting with Mr. This happened after North Korea’s talks about getting rid of nuclear weapons with former US President Donald Trump didn’t work out.

There are rumors that this car has 20 bulletproof cars. Because of this, it weighs more than regular trains and can’t go faster than 59 km/h (37 mph). He is going to Vladivostok and it will take him a whole day to get there.

There might be a meeting happening soon because the White House said they have new information that the discussions about weapons between the two countries are making progress.

The spokesman for the National Security Council, John Kirby, said that Russia’s Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, recently visited North Korea and tried to convince them to sell artillery ammunition to Russia.
The meeting happens when Russia and North Korea have things that the other country desires.

“He told the BBC that the important thing now is for both sides to agree on prices that they are willing to pay for each other’s help. ”

Russia will probably request North Korea for regular weapons such as artillery shells and rocket artillery ammunition. In return, they will offer food and raw materials, as well as ongoing support at international gatherings like the United Nations.

He said that this could mean that North Korea might give more advanced weapons to Russia so that Moscow can keep and replace its own supplies of regular weapons.

Experts believe Russia might require 122mm and 152mm shells because they are running low on supplies. However, it is challenging to determine the complete artillery inventory of North Korea due to its secretive behavior.

During the meeting in July, Mr Kim and Mr Shoigu showed off some weapons. One of them was the Hwasong missile, which is believed to be North Korea’s first missile with solid fuel.

Mr Kim opened the country to foreign guests for the first time since the pandemic.

Egypt upset as Ethiopia fills Nile dam reservoir amid water dispute

Egypt is extremely furious as Ethiopia claimed to have completed the filling of the dam in the Blue Nile river.

Ethiopia has been arguing with Egypt and Sudan about the mega project since it started in 2011. Egypt gets almost all of its water from the Nile River.

Egypt’s foreign ministry stated that Ethiopia was not considering the concerns of the countries downstream.

Ethiopia claims that the $4. 2 billion (£34 billion) dam won’t reduce their portion of Nile water.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said on X, which is formerly known as Twitter, that he is very happy to announce that the fourth and final filling of the Renaissance Dam has been successfully completed.

He said the project had problems from inside and outside, but “we managed to handle everything. ” The dam started making electricity in February 2022.

Ethiopia thinks that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will make twice the amount of electricity that the country currently produces. This will help the country develop and improve as almost half of its 127 million people do not have access to electricity.

The goal is to produce over 6,000 MW of electricity at the dam, which is located about 30km (19 miles) away from Ethiopia’s border with Sudan.

Egypt and Sudan are having a disagreement about the rules for how Gerd should work. They are worried that Ethiopia, who needs a lot of energy, could make their water shortages even worse.

Talks about the project started again last month. They had been stopped in 2021.

The country of Sudan, which is currently facing conflict between two armies, did not respond immediately to the announcement made by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Sunday.

The Egyptian foreign ministry wrote on Facebook that Ethiopia filling the reservoir on its own is against the agreement signed by the three countries in 2015. They also said that Ethiopia’s action is illegal.

“The statement said that the three countries must agree on the rules for filling and operating the Gerd before they can start filling it. ”

“Ethiopia’s actions ignore the concerns and rights of the countries downstream. This goes against international law, which promises them water security. ”

Kagame prepares list of achievements ahead of polls

As Rwanda prepares to hold presidential elections next year, the dominant ruling party — Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) is expected to front President Paul Kagame as its flag bearer.

The party held its internal elections on April 2 and re-elected him as chairman for the next five years alongside a new youthful executive team.

President Kagame was seconded as a candidate for re-election by Senator Marie-Rose Mureshyankwano, who said he has proven himself as a selfless leader who has already delivered positive results to the party.

“As Rwandans, we cannot do things as everybody else in the usual way. The challenges they face and those that we confront are different. The one thing that you can do, and everyone starts saying ‘Rwanda did this, Rwanda did that!’ Others would do things a hundred times worse, but no one will ever talk about them. For us to live well, we need to do things in a unique way so that even those who want to accuse us of all evils can hardly find any wrongs about us,” said President Kagame in his acceptance speech after being re-elected as chairman of the RPF-Inkotanyi.

While the National Electoral Commission is yet to release the official calendar, parliament recently approved the merger of the parliamentary election originally scheduled for September this year with presidential elections happening next year. The merger gave current Members of Parliament one extra year in office.

Now, President Kagame, 65, may have little competition when it comes to elections. But that doesn’t stop him from pitching his long list of achievements to the electorate.

Once in a while, he tours the country, reminding Rwandans to work hard, but also revealing what he has achieved and where he plans to improve. That may inform his continuous reforms of the public sector, including purging officials deemed to undermine the national goal of development.

Ismael Buchanan, a senior lecturer of Political Science at the University of Rwanda told The EastAfrican that President Kagame has been largely successful in instilling good governance under RPF.

“The way RPF has promoted good governance and the rule of law, unity among Rwandans and gender equality has stood out. Women’s empowerment has been a major achievement…,” he said, adding that it has also delivered peace and security to Rwanda.

On August 18, 2017, shortly after securing a new seven-year third term with 98.7 per cent of the votes, President Kagame pledged to “continue transforming Rwanda and ensuring a dignified life for every citizen.”

But he has faced criticism too including charges that he has turned authoritarian and limited political dissent.

Human Rights Watch, for example, says press freedom, human rights, and opposition suppression have featured this term.

“The ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) continued to stifle dissenting and critical voices and to target those perceived as a threat to the government and their family members,” Human Rights Watch argues in a bulletin.

“The space for political opposition, civil society, and media remained closed. Several high-profile critics, including opposition members and commentators using social media or YouTube to express themselves, went missing, were arrested or threatened,” Human Rights Watch said in its annual report 2022.”

Since 2017, his administration has focused on promoting investment, infrastructure development, and private sector growth. This has led to improvements in areas like healthcare, education, and technology, positioning Rwanda as one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies. One area that seems to keep giving is meetings and international conferences and exhibitions (MICE) which Rwanda has banked on to boost its tourism.

President Kagame is credited with positioning Rwanda as a hub for diplomacy and regional cooperation. He has made the country a major player in peacekeeping across the world currently ranked the 4th largest blue helmets contributor to the UN with 5,931 troops as of February, after India (6090), Nepal (6264), and Bangladesh (7269). He also entered bilateral deals with Mozambique to help them beat down insurgencies there.

Analysts say the challenge for the Kagame government over the past six years has been keeping peace with its neighbours, however. Until last year in January, Rwanda was at loggerheads with Uganda and Burundi and common land borders between these countries were closed almost three years. The closure of the major regional transport corridor border between Rwanda and Uganda- Gatuna/ Katuna in February 2019 significantly obstructed trade not only to Rwanda but also to Burundi and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Relations between Rwanda Burundi, and with Uganda have been restored but tensions remain high between Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kagame’s government also continues to grapple with job creation and enabling inclusive growth. The youth unemployment rate remains high. It decreased to 20.40 percent in the first quartre of 2023 from 29.70 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2022 according to figures by the National Institute of Statistics (NISR).

NISR figures show that Rwanda has been generating around 140,000 jobs per year since 2019 which is well below the target of 240,00 jobs annually set in the seven-year Government Programme: National Strategy for Transformation (NST1 2017 – 2024).

Sean Tembo To Report President Hichilema To The International Criminal Court (ICC) For Crimes Against Humanity

0

PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA AND SELECTED MEMBERS OF HIS GOVERNMENT TO BE REPORTED TO THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT (ICC) FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY

Lusaka, 9th September 2023

1. As Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) we have noted with regret President Hakainde Hichilema’s continued weaponization of state institutions such as the Zambia Police Service and the Judiciary to terrorize, imprison and torture citizens on the basis of their political affiliation. We have therefore decided to take action and seek complimentary justice from the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, Netherlands to which Zambia is a State Party.

2. Article 7, paragraph (h) of the Rome Statute defines Crimes Against Humanity as; “persecution against any identifiable group or collectivity based on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious or gender grounds …”. It is evident that upon ascending to the Presidency of the Republic of Zambia, President Hakainde Hichilema has waged a war against members of opposition political parties who are wantonly arrested and imprisoned on flimsy grounds, and that the actions of the President and his Government satisfy the definition of Crimes Against Humanity as provided by Article 7, paragraph (h) of the Rome Statute.

3. Among the people against whom our ICC complaint will be filed will include President Hakainde Hichilema, Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security; Jack Mwiimbu, Director of Public Prosecutions; Gilbert Phiri, Inspector General of Police; Graphel Musamba, Zambia Police Service Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Deputy Commissioner Mwala Yuyi, State House Communications Specialist; Clayson Hamaseka, Civil Society Activist; Laura Miti and Specific Judicial Officers at Lusaka Magistrates Court who have been positioned to act in concert with President Hakainde Hichilema in his crusade to persecute and anhilate political leaders who oppose the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) party.

4. As Patriots for Economic Progress, we are currently compiling a dossier of evidence which will document all arrests of opposition members and the circumstances and/or conclusion of such arrests in the past 2 years, ever since President Hakainde Hichilema ascended to become Zambia’s Head of State. Among the specific cases that will be documented will include the arrests and/or harassment of former PF Deputy Secretary General Hon. Mumbi Phiri, Socialist Party (SP) President; Dr. Fred M’membe, National Democratic Congress (NDC) President Ms. Saboi Imboela, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) President; Mr. Kasonde Mwenda, Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) President; Mr. Sean Tembo, Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) President; Hon. Edith Nawakwi, Citizens First President; Hon. Harry Kalaba, Lumezi Independent Member of Parliament; Hon. Munir Zulu etcetera.

5. Our formal complaint of Crimes Against Humanity will be filed against President Hakainde Hichilema and his circle of enablers, at the International Criminal Court by Friday, 15th September 2023. It is expected that the ICC will subsequently undertake a preliminary examination of our complaint and evidence thereof in order to ascertain that the necessary ingredients exist before proceeding with a formal investigation. These preliminary considerations will include whether there is sufficient evidence, whether the ICC has jurisdiction over our complaint, the gravity of the complaint and whether the interests of justice will be served by the ICC proceeding with a formal investigation. We are very confident that we shall meet the preliminary criteria established by the International Criminal Court and that the alleged perpetrators aforementioned will be indicted, arrested, prosecuted and convicted accordingly.

6. As Patriots for Economic Progress, we wish to make it abundantly clear that we shall not tolerate harassment and persecution by those who feel that they are more powerful and strong, simply because they are hiding behind taxpayer-funded state institutions. We shall fight tyranny and despotism with every ounce of vigor and valor that resides in us. If we cannot get justice in Zambia, then we shall seek it from any other place in the world where we can find it.

ZANU-PF Treasure Chinamasa’s Threats On President Hichilema Receives Bashing And Petitions From Copperbelt Province

ZANU-PF TREASURE CHINAMASA’S THREATS ON REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT MR HAKAINDE HICHILEMA RECEIVES BASHING AND PETITIONS FROM COPPERBELT PROVINCE

…….As Zambians demand actions from International Governing Bodies over threats and admission of killing former Republican President H.E Mr Mwanawasa by ZANU-PF Officials.

Thousands flocked to the Copperbelt Provincial Administration Office to present petitions over threats against the life of Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema and admission of killing the former Republican President H.E Mr Levy Patrick Mwanawa by Zimbabwe’s ZANU-PF Officials Mr Patrick Chinamasa and Rutendo Matinyarare.

The petitions were this morning presented to Copperbelt Minister Hon Elisha Matambo by all Districts on the Copperbelt.

Zambians are demanding that the TWO ZANU-PF Officials are made accountable for their utterances which can damage the good relations the TWO countries have enjoyed for a long time.

The petitioners also demand that TWO ZANU-PF Officials publicly retract their statements failure to which certain diplomatic channels will not be followed to make sure that the TWO ZANU-PF Officials are dealt with accordingly.

Further, Copperbelt Minister Hon Elisha Matambo warned some opposition leaders against their un-patriotism behavior of going to bed with those having bad plans against Zambia’s Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema.

Hon Matambo warned that no one can do anything bad to the Republican President who has been into many assassination attempts while in opposition as God was the one protecting him.

The Copperbelt Minister encouraged all Zambians to be on their knees and pray for the Republican President. Meanwhile Mines Minister Hon Paul Kabuswe has also warned the opposition and the TWO ZANU-PF Officials against threats on the Republican President that God is above them and they will fall into their own traps.

Zambia and Zimbabwe have enjoyed good bilateral relationship from the time the two were part of Nyasaland todate. Currently many Zimbabwians are doing business in Zambia freely and Zambians value them as brothers and sisters.

M’membe fed, housed betrayer Frank Bwalya

M’membe fed, housed betrayer Frank Bwalya

On several occasions, Dr. Fred M’membe kept and fed Father Frank Bwalya when he was homeless and without an income. During the MMD days when Frank Bwalya launched the Red Card campaign and after leaving the Catholic Church, he became homeless and without income. It was during these hard times that Fred M’membe during the Post Newspapers days decided to help Bwalya. M’membe personally sent a vehicle to Kitwe to pick Frank Bwalya who he then housed at his own house. Additionally, Fred M’membe also bought a vehicle for Frank Bwalya. It was his first vehicle in his life.

So what went wrong? Why has Frank Bwalya started attacking the very person who not only fed him but gave him shelter and bought him a vehicle?

When Frank Bwalya became jobless after being recalled from Diplomatic mission by the UPND government, he decided on his own to join Socialist Party. He was welcomed and taken through a program to appreciate what socialism is all about. At the end, he was admitted into the party and given a position as Spokesperson because of his ability to talk.

As time went by,when he learnt of Antonio Mwanza also was intending to join SP from PF, Frank Bwalya begun talking to some PF members to persuade Antonio to stay put. Frank Bwalya feared that if Antonio Mwanza was to move, he would overshadow him.

And when Antonio Mwanza finally left PF, Frank Bwalya became upset. He called a senior party official in SP complaining that Antonio Mwanza can’t be senior than him and that if that decision was not reversed, he would leave SP and support UPND.

Here are some questions for Frank Bwalya.

What is his relationship with the Catholic Church and which leader in this Church has a relationship with him?

Why did late President Michael Chilufya Sata Mhsriep not appoint him to any highest organ of the PF?

What happened to his political party ABZ which he formed?

POLICE IG APPEARS IN COURT FOR DEFAMATION

….as Dr. M’membe reechoes that nobody is above the Law

Lusaka, Monday, September 11, 2023

The Matter in which Socialist Party President Dr Fred M’membe has dragged Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba to court for Defamation has failed to take off.

This is because there has been no consent from the Director of Public Prosecution to Prosecute.

The matter will therefore come up for mention on 15th September, 2023.

On August 8 this year, Mr Musamba held a Press briefing at Police headquarters where he allegedly did cause to be unlawfully published on various Social Media Platforms defamatory matter concerning Dr M’membe with the intent to defame Dr M’membe.

Among the utterances by the IG was that “Socialist Party Leader Dr Fred M’membe’s statements on various social media platforms are inciting peace loving Zambians into a civil disobedience.”

“Police will not sit and watch while an individual whose utterances are hell bent on accusing anarchy in the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Lusaka Magistrate Chrispine Hampungani has reprimanded Inspector General of Police over his absence when the matter first came up.

The silence in the court was extremely loud as the visibly nervous Police IG took to the stand.

One could hear the pin drop as the Police Chief could hardly be heard when responding to the reason for his absence.

“I consulted my advocate and was advised not to appear,” he said.
Mr Musamba has since been told to be present in the next sitting or send someone to explain.

And speaking when he left the Courts, Dr M’membe said nobody should be above the law or should have the right to defame others with impunity.

He said the police commanders are not there to do politics and defame others because it is wrong.

Hichilema Must Address The Cost Of Living Before It’s Too Late- Fred M’membe

HICHILEMA MUST ADDRESS THE COST OF LIVING BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE

We welcome the bold, confident and honest observation from the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) on the cries of the general public regarding the continued increase in the cost of living in the country.

Last week, CCZ General Secretary Fr Joseph Chikoya issued a statement in which he said, among other things, that the 15 percent price increase of fuel will adversely affect the most vulnerable, especially low-income citizens, who are already grappling with the high cost of essential commodities, such as mealie meal, cooking oil and increased transport costs.

Fr Chikoya called for urgent interventions to be made to help cushion the lives of the most vulnerable Zambians by providing policy directions that will see a more manageable cost of living. He further noted that the cries of the general public were genuine and deserved the government’s urgent attention.

We agree with the Council of Churches in Zambia’s reflections on the prevailing hardship in the country, and we are deeply concerned about the impact of the cost of living, particularly on families and communities. The rapidly increasing price of essential commodities and services is causing severe challenges for our people.

They are already poorly paid and this, coupled with the unstable and ever escalating price of essential commodities and services, is melting their incomes at a very fast rate. In essence, the poor and vulnerable, who are the majority of our population, are suffering a double punishment from Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s corrupt puppet regime’s directionless and anti-poor policies.

Many of our people today are struggling to meet the rising cost of literally everything, especially mealie meal. There is no doubt that the increase in the cost of living is also having a huge impact on consumption patterns. And this situation is negatively affecting most families. It is making once decent families resort to formulating desperate coping strategies to make ends meet that in the long run ends up destroying them irretrievably.

The social crisis that many families in Zambia face today owing to the rapidly increasing and unbearable cost of living is; firstly, taking away their dignity and self-respect. And secondly, the unbearable cost of living and inability to provide is affecting the mental wellbeing of most family providers, which in extreme cases can lead to depression or death. It is becoming clearer each day that many families in our communities are unable to handle or deal with the continuing economic shock.

What is even more saddening, is that the interventions or efforts to address this desperate situation from Mr Hichilema and his corrupt puppet regime are highly disproportionate.

Instead of being desperate and in panic mode by holding staged public meetings in the urban constituencies of Lusaka, we advise Mr Hichilema to come up with workable interventions that will immediately assist the vulnerable to keep pace with the rapidly increasing cost of living. Additional rhetoric, lies, and promises of an egg, a potato, and so on – like he did at one of the public meetings last week – will not sort out the hunger and anger prevailing in most homes countrywide.

Let Mr Hichilema know that these low-level, pickpocket tricks he is attempting to fool our people with will not only backfire but will also fail to close the yawning gap of poverty and squalor that is increasing on a daily basis.

We therefore call for urgent action to help the suffering majority of this country before things get out of hand.

One bad term doesn’t deserve another, aleya!

THERE IS NEED TO RECOGNIZE CHALLENGES ZAMBIA IS FACING TRYING TO REVITALIZE THE ECONOMY – KANYAMA

Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States Mr. Chibamba Kanyama, says there is need to recognize the challenges Zambia is facing in trying to revitalize its economy.

He said there is need to take the required action to assist develop sustainable, alternative livelihoods, working alongside private sector partners through joint ventures to create jobs and reduce demand for illicit goods, such as illegal charcoal and bushmeat.

Mr. Kanyama said this in his opening remarks in Atlanta, Georgia at the Shifting Mindsets Conference organized by the Zambia Leadership Foundation (ZLA) and Association of Zambians in Atlanta.

This is the fourth annual “Shifting Mindsets” under the theme “Shifting Mindsets for Entrepreneurial Success”, with the third Conference coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in liaison with the diaspora associations held in Livingstone, Zambia in July 2022.

“There is need for all of us here to recognize the challenges Zambia is facing in trying to revitalize its economy and together take the required action to assist develop sustainable, alternative livelihoods, working alongside private sector partners through joint ventures to create jobs and reduce demand for illicit goods, such as illegal charcoal and bushmeat. Together we can devise plans on how we can build local capacity to manage resources, protect assets, and place communities in the driver’s seat of managing the forests and wildlife,” said Mr. Kanyama.

He said the Government continues to appreciate the Diaspora and the U.S Government efforts in partnering with Zambian organizations.

“The Government of the Republic of Zambia acknowledges and appreciates all your efforts in partnering with fellow Zambian organizations and professionals in the Diaspora to increase engagement, expose the community to knowledge about Africa, and provide entrepreneurial programming and training for youth in Zambia,” he said.

He said the U.S. Government has continued to support Zambia with programmes aimed at building and sustaining a democratic, well-governed nation, particularly, programmes that help to strengthen governance institutions, provision of water and sanitation, and reforms in the economic and governance sectors.

“Specific support has been towards bolstering the Zambian Government’s decentralization initiatives and local governance; support to independent and new media, freedom of expression and the protection of human rights; support of tax policy and tax administration reforms; and to help grow small and medium enterprises, particularly, those that are women led, whilst also focusing on job creation and revenue growth.”

Mr. Kanyama said Zambia has respect for property rights, and a stable macroeconomic environment that sets the tone for citizen investments.

He said this is the time for the diaspora to leverage the rise in economic optimism following debt restructuring and position themselves as they contemplate how Zambian entrepreneurs could take advantage of pro-private sector budget.

He said there is a lot of expertise in the diaspora and several entrepreneurs that can contribute a lot back home.

Mr. Kanyama said patriotism should drive the diaspora into taking the step to invest back home by leveraging on the enabling macroeconomic environment that exists, as opposed to waiting for Government to offer contracts for business.

The Conference will focus on pushing forward Zambia’s Economic and Cultural Diplomacy agenda with plenary discussions on culture, knowledge, social, health, financial and culture interests that include, amongst others: African Women’s Leadership in Decolonizing History, Culture and Arts, “Opportunities for Diaspora Engagement”, and “Creating Generational Wealth”.

It is also set to inspire and empower individuals to embrace new perspectives and unlock their entrepreneurial potential.

The conference which serves as an international platform for Zambians, friends of Zambia, and other influential thought leaders from all backgrounds is open to all Zambians living in the Diaspora and to include industry leaders, and professionals from the United States, Europe, Australia, South America, and across the globe.

COULD IT BE THAT HH DOESN’T LOVE PRAYERS OR THE WIND IS TOO STRONG FOR HIM

Rule of Law Prevail

Lusaka………….Monday 11th September 2023

In a significant turn of events, former President Edgar Lungu was to attend an inter domination event as the guest of honor but was cancelled by the police, marking a critical moment in Zambia’s political landscape. The cancellation, carried out under the administration of President Hakainde Hichilema (commonly referred to as HH), underscores the principle of the rule of law and raises questions about the evolution of HH’s stance on democracy.

The church event, initially intended to be a platform for spiritual and community engagement, took an unexpected political twist when former President Edgar Lungu was invited as the guest of honor. Lungu, who led Zambia from 2015 to 2021, represented the Patriotic Front (PF) party during his tenure. He is the former Head of State who has the right to worship.

The police cited security concerns and potential political tension as the reasons behind their decision. The move was seen by some as an attempt to prevent a potential clash between supporters of the former president and those of the current administration.

The rule of law is a fundamental pillar of any democratic society. It ensures that all individuals and institutions, regardless of their status or position, are subject to the same set of laws and regulations. In the context of the church event’s cancellation, the government’s decision to prioritize security and uphold the rule of law is crucial. It sends a clear message that Zambia’s democratic values are gone.

The cancellation of the church event where former President Edgar Lungu was to be , raises questions about whether HH’s actions align with his previous rhetoric.
Never at anytime did the PF government then stop him from going to places of worship.
Yes hh could be stopped from doing certain things because he was violent with his people whenever they met PF and an example is when he blocked Former President Edgar Lungu Motorcade.

This President must learn and know that ECL is the Former Head of State and therefore must not be treated like an Opposition Leader..

That cancellation highlights the complex interplay between democracy, the rule of law, and political dynamics in Zambia. While it is essential to uphold democratic values and respect the rule of law, The incident serves as a reminder that in a functioning democracy, the government must carefully balance these competing interests to ensure the stability and well-being of the nation. As Zambia continues to navigate its political landscape, the commitment to upholding democratic principles and the rule of law remains of paramount importance.

IS IT IGNORANCE, ARROGANCE OR THE SHEER PROPENSITY FOR TELLING LIES?- Antonio Mwanza

0

IS IT IGNORANCE, ARROGANCE OR THE SHEER PROPENSITY FOR TELLING LIES?

Minister of Mines, Paul KABUSWE is quoted in the News Diggers newspapers, saying that, Vedanta won’t be given Tax Holidays.

This statement coming from a Minister is appalling to say the least. Is it that the Minister is ignorant of his own ministry’s mining tax policies, is it the arrogance of power or the man is genuinely incapable of telling the truth?

In case Hon Kabuswe doesn’t know the taxation regime that his Ministry is implementing, we are here to enlighten him that his Government has given TAX HOLIDAYS to all foreign multinational mining corporations. These tax breaks are applicable to all foreign mining firms operating in Zambia, Vedanta inclusive.

In 2021, Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane in his first budget presentation under the UPND administration, announced the introduction of tax breaks for mining companies, making Zambia keep losing hundreds of millions of dollars annually in ‘unpaid mining taxes’.

Coupled with tax avoidance, price transferring, tax refunds, capital flight, externalisation of profits and other illicit financial flows, Zambia is losing an estimated 3 billion US dollars annually from the mining sector alone.

Just like in the 2021 national budget, the UPND Government in their last year’s budget, again, gave mining companies tax holidays by reintroducing deductibility of the mineral royalty tax.

As if that is not enough, this Government has further given foreign mining companies more tax exemptions by suspending import taxes on mining equipment and machinery, making Zambia and Zambians lose even the little revenue they were collecting from the mines. (See, Statutory Instrument No. 50 of 2022)

Zambians must get very worried when they hear those that they have entrusted with the constitutional authority to superintendent over the affairs of the country expose such ignoble levels of ignorance and deceit to mislead the unsuspecting and suffering masses.

We wish to reiterate our resolve that Government must cancel these insane tax breaks they have given to foreign mining multinationals who are ripping the country off billions of dollars and instead give tax incentives and tax holidays to our own Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that are struggling and folding due to high taxation, lack of tax incentives, lack of liquidity, high interest rates, high inflation, currency volatility, high cost of doing business, general economic hardships and an unfavourable working environment.

Currently, almost all major and minor Government contracts and payments are going to foreigners at the exclusion of our own local businesses. This is worsening the already desperate youth unemployment levels and crowding out local SMEs which are critical to job creation and alleviation of poverty.

It is high time that President Hakainde SAMMY Hichilema and his team of ministers, like Hon Kabuswe, realise that they are in office to serve and protect the interests of Zambians and not the interests of foreigners and their masters.

The billions of dollars we are losing from the unpatriotic tax breaks given to the foreign mining corporations is the very money the country desperately needs, to invest in infrastructure, electricity, fuel, medicines, agriculture and other key sectors in order to improve the economy, reduce the high cost of living, create job and business opportunities for our women and youths and reduce the dehumanising poverty levels that the majority of our people are going through.

Chilufya Tayali Is A DOg- Hon. Munir Zulu

A DOG OF THE WIND IN TROUBLE

Colleagues am reluctant to engage myself in an exchange of words with Chilufya Tayali, whom everyone by now knows has no permanent scruples and is more less like a pendulum. But let me serve padoko waka ‘briefly’.

Am above a ‘dog of the wind’ – an element who barks anyhow depending on who is giving him crumbs. Remember dogs are loyal to even thieves, as long as such, can throw bones at them.

At the moment, it is not crumbs he is after. He is in trouble. He has defamed countless people, and he is heading into disaster. Although he tries to hide that fact, it takes very little intelligence-if a little is all that one has – to tell why this pendulum, this dog of the wind is behaving like he is on heat.

A little background.

Here is a man who once got excited not long ago and gave ‘details’ of who killed a late UNZA female student Vespers Shimuzila. Here is a man who has publicly told Zambians the people behind the gassing incident. Nsama Nsama died because of the careless talk of this very element. Here is a man who has tangled himself into directly accusing anyone he detests, of this and that. As at now, the people he accused of countless issues have authority in their hands and they are closing in on him. Every day, he stares at jail.

And perhaps, let me borrow a line of thought from Chitambala Mwewa – that one who has failed to grow – that, when the curtains closes on Tayali, he will be alone. Indeed he is alone.

His shift of beliefs, behaviorial pattern exhibited in his recent barkings are not principled. They find expression in the desperation to save himself from trouble.

But in all this, it is those he is attempting to fool, to appease and influence to let him go off the trouble hook, who will look more foolish when this pendulum, this dog of the wind finally gets what he wants, “FREEDOM”

When they let him off the hook, off jail and when that authority changes hands to other people, what makes them think he will not go after them, defame them, their families, associates?

Is there a credible alternative to the UPND?

By Chimwemwe Mwanza

As hunger and poverty begin to take root in Zambian households, it’s easy to see despondency in the townships and some sub-urban areas. Throw in economic and social hardships to a tempestuous political environment, the crafty are resorting to telling their challenges on social media platforms effectively projecting a narrative of a failing state. It’s little wonder that scenes of women hoisting tu Pamela and shouts of Njala in the way of the Presidential motorcade, characterised the President’s recent visits to townships.

Amidst this uproar, visuals of Socialist Party leader Fred Mmembe emerging from a holding cell and punching a clenched fist towards his supporters that kept vigil at a police station have been doing the rounds. In Emmanuel Mwamba’s case, the lucid opposition politician went as far as circulating images of a sjambokked back – resulting from his resistance to heed to what he claims was an illegal arrest. As the saying goes, an image tells a thousand words.

Raphael Nakachinda, Munir Zulu, Edith Nawakwi, Sean Tembo and now Esther Lungu, the former first lady, among a horde of other politicians or associates of the opposition have also been in detention for varying offences – much to the illumination of social media. Mind you, these visuals are now imprinted in the minds of hungry masses, some of whom are still looking for a political messiah. Curiously, it’s worth noting the unity in the opposition – especially when their leaders are charged or summoned by police.

Chishimba Kambwili’s recent pronouncements best explains the motivation behind this unity. ‘This government should know that an arrest or injury to one opposition leader is an injury to all,’ he quipped. Fact is, never in the history of our politics has the opposition been this united against a sitting government – to the extent that some have had to put aside serious personal differences in support of their cause. For context, take a step back to pre – August 2021 elections, who could have predicted or foreseen this burgeoning bromance between Fred Mmembe and Chishimba Kambwili?

It was Kambwili – who in his position as Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the previous dispensation – initiated the process to close Mmembe’s Post Newspaper. By the time Kambwili was expelled from PF – a party to which he has since been readmitted, The Post was toast. What then should we make out of this newly found bromance? Well, there are no permanent enemies in politics. But is this comradery based on shared political and moral values, or could this be a ruse to assembling a coalition of the walking wounded whose raison d’etre is to dislodge the incumbent from power? You be the judge.

Is the opposition really under siege?

You see, Kambwili’s rallying cry for unity in the opposition is not only troubling but is deeply flawed in logic. At best, he infers that opposition leaders are irrational and incapable of discerning right from wrong. So, for him nangu ba mwikate bu pompwe, he expects the rest of the opposition to dash to Mikomfwa police station just to create a spectacle? Ayikona man, ala insoni munyinane, ebuntu. To some, circulating visuals of themselves in handcuffs is a mark of bravado. You see, it takes chutzpah to create such scenes but one could well argue that this is a character trait that some of our politicians have perfected over the years. Is this necessary?

We shouldn’t sink so low to becoming a nation that celebrates brazen acts of illegality. Agreed, there has been instances where the police have been unjust to the opposition – to the extent of responding recklessly to lousy click baiting and taunting by political actors. However, citizens ought to develop a heightened sence of alertness so they can easily separate facts from fiction.
As a matter of fact, this unity on display by the opposition has no grounding. It’s premised on politics of outrage which unfortunately makes for viral content. And those schooled in the art of deception will attest that that there is a thin line between perception and reality. Reality in this case being that the President through his own unfiltered pronouncements is in fact the one festering the narrative of ‘an opposition under siege.’ Unprovoked, he blew the lid on his imingalato (tricks up his sleeve). In his own words, he wants the PF asphyxiated to the last breath. That said, is it true then that the opposition is under siege?

Wynter Kabimba – the straight-talking leader of the Economic Front provides an interesting perspective. In a recent interview with Daily Revelation – which is an online publication, Kabimba cautions that not every opposition leader arrested to date is under persecution. ‘I take a different view. I personally think that every citizen of this country including opposition political party members must abide by the law in whatever they say, do or act.’ The inference in this assertion being that there is sufficient reason to believe that some opposition leaders are deliberately breaking laws for self-serving interests.

Is there a credible alternative to the UPND?

We have conditioned our body politic to investing heavily in Messianic politics – in the process creating a false and delusional impression that a single individual can solve Zambia’s challenges. Yet we forget that politicians are fallible humans who are prone to mistakes. We have also proven that creating cults of leadership only serves to entrench a culture of non-accountability – precisely why the Messianic approach or motivation to choosing leaders has spectacularly backfired on us.

But most worrying is the level of opportunism in the opposition. They seem readily prepared to do anything including, compromising their moral consciences just so they can ascend to plot 1. Without disregarding the impact on ordinary folks, the scarcity and rising cost of ubunga has strategically become the soft underbelly. It’s gravely despicable to use the anguish of masses to push self-serving interests. Beyond criticism, what solutions has the opposition provided to help ameliorate rising food prices?

You see, what our leaders won’t tell a struggling family in Kanyama, Kwa Nagoli or Wusakile is that the Russia and Ukraine conflict among a horde of other factors is disrupting food supplies across the globe. Not only are these countries large exporters of grain, but they rank among the biggest producers of phosphates and other elements used in production of fertilizer. Pricing of fertilizer impacts production of maize, and this has a knock-on effect on the price of ubunga.

In addition, it is fact that the souring cost of food prices is not only endemic to Zambia but the entire SADC region. It is also correct that the impact of the pandemic still has a lingering effect on the global supply chain. In our case, our economy is heavily reliant on imports to keep our low manufacturing base humming, imagine then the contagion effect on the economy?

For once, can somebody take a high moral ground and articulate some of these challenges to the suffering masses. I doubt there would be any takers – doing so would be akin to helping loosen a chokehold on one of the UPND’s Achilles heel. In other words, let’s fold our arms so that hunger becomes the motivation that drives the electorate to the polls. And voila there will be a new Messiah in State House.
Makes you wonder. Other than advancing self-fulfilling ambitions, is there a credible alternative among opposition leaders to the incumbent? Go figure.

STATE HOUSE AND CORRUPT FERTILISER TENDERS- Fred M’membe

STATE HOUSE AND CORRUPT FERTILISER TENDERS

There are very serious issues being raised about the fertiliser supply tenders that Mr Hichilema needs to explain.

And these concerns are not baseless. There’s what may be described as corruption as well as a serious lack of transparency and fairness in the awarding of these tenders:

Best Med (Copperbelt Province) price US$11,873,548.68

Agrizam (Eastern Province) price US$24,191,422.05

Alpha (Luapula Province) price US$8,324,998.80

ETG (Muchinga Province) price US$8,570,290.77

Growmax (North Western Province) price US$8,510,253.58

Growmax (Western Province) price US$4,662,547.12

Greenfield (Northern Province) price US$12,328,701.00

Kovenant (Southern Province) price US$22,197,543.75

Direct bidding will cost the Treasury about US$7,790,616.27 more than was offered in the two cancelled tenders. This is money that could have been used to buy medicines for hospitals, pay local government workers, and so on.

How does Mr Hichilema justify this? How does he explain it? What label should be given to it if not corruption?

Ever since UPND took office, the procurement of fertiliser has been scandalously expensive and has become increasingly difficult to conclude in a fair and transparent manner.

The process has been carried out in a way that favours some of Mr Hichilema’s friends and close associates in the industry while discriminating against other players in the sector.

In fact, these dirty and unethical schemes in the procurement of fertiliser are being carried out on the direct orders of certain identifiable advisors in the presidential advisory team at State House. We are aware of these practices and the corrupt links between some presidential advisors and the entities that are being awarded the tenders. It is clear that this is a State House dirty job.

Things can’t continue this way. Let Mr Hichilema come clean on this matter and stop blaming those before him for the same corrupt practices he is tolerating in his own government.

This regime should be ashamed and embarrassed by the corrupt manner in which it has handled the fertiliser procurement process since it took over power.

PF LOSES 95 MEMBERS FOLLOWING TRANSFORMATIVE UPND POLICIES
September 10th, 2023.
SINDA- UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda, this afternoon received a thunderous welcome filled with traditional song and dance as members in Sinda constituency gathered to welcome his entourage.

UPND members gathered not only to welcome Mr Imenda ,but also to welcome 95 PF members who defected to join the UPND citing visible development through CDF and a brighter future for their children through the free education policy.

Mr Imenda in his welcoming remarks said the increasing number of new members joining UPND is a clear indicator that communities are acknowledging the benefits derived from UPND policies such as CDF and Free Education policy.

Mr Imenda thanked the new members for willfully joining the party ,inorder to appreciate the leadership which they said ,had shown them more care and support.

Former PF Council Chairperson, Katete District Council in Sinda, Mr Henry Banda said President Hichilema has done a lot for the people in communities and development is visible.

“From the onset , New Dawn Administration increased the CDF from K1.5 to K28.3
We are moving to join the ruling party because we are seeing changes happening in our constituencies. For the first time, we have acquired earth moving equipment as a constituency, and this means that we shall, for the first time, be able to build and maintain roads at any time.”said Mr Banda.

Some people in Sinda area, have decided to join the ruling party as a result of the visible improvements taking place in their area, which is an important political milestone highlighting the Party’s expansion.

The New Dawn Free education policy government is another critical factor that has triggered the defections because families in these areas are happy that they can take their children to school without any financial burden.

The free education policy has been especially beneficial for low-income families who can now ensure their children obtain a quality education without having to worry about paying tuition fees.

ZAMBIA ARMY COMMANDER VISIT CHINA TO ENHANCE MILITARY TIES

By Buffalo Reporter | Mon Sept 11, 2023

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLM) has assured Zambia that it will continue to help the Zambia Army and the Zambia Defence Force in its efforts to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries.

This was said when Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi, paid a courtesy call on People’s Liberation Army Commander, Gen Li Qiaoming on his official visit to that country.

Gen Qiaoming assured the Army Commander that the Zambia Army’s need areas are being analysed so that appropriate support is delivered.

And to appreciate the gesture, Lt Gen Alibuzwi thanked China for inviting him and for the support it is rendering in providing medical expertise to Maina Soko Medical Centre, and for the continuous efforts to provide military training and equipment for the Zambia Army and other defence force wings.

According to Zambia Army Public Relations and Foreign Liaison Director, Colonel Martin Kaluluka Liyungu, the Commander’s visit comes before Republican President and Commander- In- Chief, Mr, Hakainde Hichilema’s, who is accompanied to that country by First Lady, Mrs Mutinta Hichilema.

Col Liyungu says the two visits to that country will boost military cooperation and give a new boost to the long-standing cooperation between China and Zambia military relations and at the same time, advancing the friendship that was started by Chairman Mao and first Republican President, Dr Kenneth David Kaunda.

While in China, the Army Commander who was accompanied by heads of branches and senior officers from army headquarters, visited the People’s Liberation Army Medical University and the Peace Support Training Centre, as well as Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing, to see how the defence industry supports government development programmes.

The delegation also witnessed the PLA soldiers in training and demonstrations of counter-terrarium and sniper firing skills.

This year marks the 60th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zambia.

Zambia China Relations Could Look up…following President Hichilema´s trip to Beijing- Amb. Anthony Mukwita

Zambia China Relations Could Look up…following President Hichilema´s trip to Beijing

11th Sept 2023

Amb. Anthony Mukwita

President Hakainde Hichilema´s trip to China where he´s scheduled to meet the People Republic of China´s President Xi Jinping could turn around Zambia´s diplomatic fortunes positively said Ambassador Anthony Mukwita.

Mr Mukwita, an international relations analyst, and published author said its ´better late than never´ when it comes to diplomacy, especially when dealing with the second largest economic and military power in the world with a population of more than 1 billion people.

Ambassador Mukwita is a major proponent of good relations between Zambia and China which he has publicly proclaimed in essays and a new book since 2022 after President Hichilema took over power from President Edgar Lungu.

“I wrote in December last year and repeated the call relentlessly in January that if Lusaka continued to ignore Beijing, they would do so at own economic and political peril because you can’t ignore a country you owe more than US$6 billion… we must talk to everyone in diplomacy and openly take sides,” Ambassador Mukwita said.

He was speaking on the heels of rising concerns that Lusaka under President Hichilema ostensibly sided openly more with the West (America and EU) than with others such as China and the Federation of Russia, a diplomatic stance Ambassador Mukwita said could hurt Zambia in the long run.

In fact, a US Senator openly twitted before twitter turned X that President Hichilema was a ´good´ guy because he was ´alienating´ or reducing relations with China in preference to the west, a statement scorned by many in Zambia including the China-Zambia relations.

Mr. Hichilema will be in Beijing from 10-16 September to discuss te dismantling of a US$ 6.3 billion debt Zambia owes Beijing for infrastructure development out of a total foreign debt stock of about US$18 billion according to official records.

Reuters reports that “Zambia’s foreign ministry said Hichilema and Xi would sign several bilateral agreements, including on economic cooperation and investment, and discuss Chinese investment in Zambia’s energy, mining and infrastructure sectors.”

It is a known fact that China has significant commercial interests in Zambia, having invested in over thirty projects in the country through its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) between 2014 and 2023, according to data compiled by the American Enterprise Institute think tank, worth $11.3 billion in total, ranging from the energy sector to agriculture and aviation.

“We can only win with improved relations between Beijing and Lusaka, and I am personally glad that President Hichilema has finally smelt the tea in China,” Ambassador Mukwita said.

International relations experts contend that Sino Zambia relations have dipped since Mr Hichilema assumed office compared to the days of late President Michael Sata and sixth President of Zambia Edgar Lungu.

“I am hoping this path taken to Beijing could mend that gap and take us back on the love we have enjoyed with China for almost 60 years now,” said Ambassador Mukwita.

More comprehensive details regarding China Zambia relations can be found in Mr Mukwita’ s new book ´China in Africa the Zambia story. ´
The book is available in Bookworld, Grey Matter, Amazon and Takealot.

ANDD URGES STAKEHOLDERS IN THE MINING SECTOR TO SUPPORT GOVERNMENT PROGRESSIVE MINING REFORMS

…. reforms such as the Mineral Regulation Commission should be supported by all well meaning Zambians

Lusaka… Monday September 11, 2023 (SMART EAGLES)

The Advocates for National Development and Democracy (ANDD) has called on stakeholders in the mining sector to support government progressive mining reforms in the mining industry.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda says reforms such as the Mineral Regulation Commission should be supported by all well meaning Zambians because they are aimed at benefiting the nation.

The mineral regulation commission will promote integrity, transparency, address illegal mining activities and ensure that investors adhere to our mining policies and regulations.

He also called on the government to promptly find an equity partner to run Mopani Copper Mine saying Konkola Copper Mine has been sorted amicably.

The statements by our Republican President Hakainde Hichilema that Government will soon open and unlock Mopani Copper Mines is a progressive statement, it has actually given us and the people of Zambia hope, more especially the people of the Copperbelt who depend on the mines for employment and business opportunities and other economic activities. This statement is profoundly positive and it is actually a demonstration by the President that he is committed to revamp the mining sector,” he said.

“We are happy that the statement came from the president himself and we can only appeal that the President expedite the process and we’re hopeful that the government will unlock Mopani as well after unlocking KCM by handing it over to Vedanta Resources, the global mining giant.

We only hope that Mopani will be unlocked before the end of this year. Our position is that as citizens of Zambia, stakeholders in the mining sector, let us support the mining reforms that the government is implementing, for example, the mineral Regulation Commission. It is one reform that from the advocates for national development and democracy position that we support because we believe that it is going to improve integrity and transparency and regulation of the mines and industrialize the mining sector,” he submitted.

He acknowledged that one of the reasons why previously investors misbehaved was the fact that the country did not have such policies to regulate them.

“These investors as much as we partner with them they need to be effectively and efficiently monitored for them to ensure that they adhere to mining policies and good corporate practices. However, we want to appeal to the government that the investor that they are negotiating with to take over Mopani they should ensure that they give the investor terms and conditions that will meet the interests and address the interests and aspirations of the Zambian people, the employees, suppliers and contractors in the mining sector.

He emphasized that the people of Zambia should support these mining reforms for the nation to adequately benefit from it’s mineral resources and make the mining sector viable.
