Ruben Amorim apologises for London trip for West Ham move talks

0

Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has issued an apology to the club’s fans and players for his recent trip to London to discuss a potential move to West Ham.

Initially linked with a move to Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp’s departure announcement, it was later revealed that West Ham emerged as the leading contenders to secure Amorim’s services.

The 39-year-old’s meeting with the Hammers reportedly influenced Liverpool’s decision to pursue Feyenoord’s Arne Slot instead. Amorim has acknowledged that meeting with West Ham to potentially replace David Moyes this summer was a “mistake.”

Amorim told reporters: “The first thing to say is that the club knew about my trip, that’s the first thing, because it’s important and changes the context. The second thing to talk about is this ‘veil of secrecy’ around the trip. I ‘secretly’ parked my car outside, ‘secretly’ walked past 15 people, spoke with the people, took photos with people and got on a plane. It’s important to take away this idea that it was all done behind the club’s back, that didn’t happen.

“And now the most important point, that obviously it was a mistake. The trip, the timing was completely wrong. I didn’t think so at the time but it was wrong, especially when I’m so demanding of my players, and I’m always the first to say that the problems of individuals can’t take over the team, and I’ve taken players out of the team for much less. It was my fault, I have to accept that and live with it.

I didn’t think it was so bad at the time but thinking back on it it’s very clear. I’ve explained this with the players, the staff, but most important now is to carry on. I’m using the conference here to say sorry to the Sporting fans, the staff and above all to say sorry publicly to the players for the mistake that I made.”

Amorim traveled to London just before Sporting’s crucial match against Porto, where they could potentially secure the Portuguese league title. Despite the club’s historic aspirations, the former midfielder seemed preoccupied. His future remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, West Ham is actively seeking a successor for manager Moyes, whose contract expires this summer. With Slot likely heading to Liverpool, the Hammers must decide whether to retain Moyes or pursue other options, potentially including Amorim.

ZAMBIA IS DISINTEGRATING
…as leaders deficient in ethical values are prey
to arrogance, tribalism and lies – Bishop Mwamba

By Margaret Malenga( The Mast)

MANY young people think Zambia has always been poor as it is now, not true, says UNIP president Trevor Mwamba.

He notes that in losing moral values Zambia is disintegrating as leaders deficient in ethical values are prey to arrogance, hubris, greed, hate, intolerance, tribalism and lies.

Bishop Mwamba urges the Bank of Zambia to consider featuring a portrait of Dr Kenneth Kaunda on K100 note as a fitting tribute to commemorate his centennial, which falls today.

He said as the country commemorates this centennial, “it is important to recall the Zambia of prosperity he contributed to marked by flourishing industries and a dynamic economy”.

“In his honour as we commemorate his centennial we recommend to the Bank of Zambia to print on our highest denomination the 100 kwacha note a portrait of president Kaunda as befitting tribute to him,” he said. “President Kenneth David Kaunda was a great man and it’s befitting that UNESCO has included him on their list for the celebration of anniversaries for 2024-2025, for his 50 years contribution to peace in southern African.” Bishop Mwamba said Dr Kaunda’s book “Letter To My Children” as a dedication to his children and Zambian youth teaches values that matter and by which he lived.

“In his book Letter To My Children, which of all his books, is a masterpiece in self-scrutiny he dedicated it to his children and the youth of Zambia teaching them values that matter and by which he lived. Looking to the future he wrote, ‘when you grow up, you will hear and read a lot about Kaunda; what he did and didn’t do; his mistakes and weaknesses – and I hope you will hear a few good things as well’,” Bishop Mwamba noted. “It’s the ‘few good things’ I highlight and impress on you my fellow Zambians especially the young generation in celebrating his centennial.”

He said of the “few good things” many of the young Zambians have no idea about is that Zambia was prosperous and had industries which were destroyed after Dr Kaunda left office.

Bishop Mwamba said it’s important that Zambians remember and learn of “these few good things”, which UNIP led by president Kaunda built.

“Many young people think Zambia has always been poor as it is now. Not true. We had a robust agricultural programme with cooperatives and grain storage facilities across Zambia. Many young Zambians think it’s impossible to have industries and a vibrant economy and that we can live in a corrupt free country because they have never experienced this,” he said. “Many young Zambians have no idea that we had the Livingstone motor assembly plant, Mulobezi timber plant, Cashew nut farms in Western Province, Mwinilunga pineapple canning factory, Kawambwa tea factory, Mansa battery factory, Munushi banana, Chipata bicycle factory, Kapiri Mposhi glass factory, Pottery factory in Kitwe, clothing/blanket factories in Kabwe and Livingstone, respectively. All these were Zambian run factories besides the foreign owned factories such as Colgate factory, Dunlop (tyre) factory, and many more. All these industries existed when Zambia was under great economic and political pressure and out of moral principle could not trade with the most vibrant economy in the region, South Africa.”

Bishop Mwamba said this was all possible because of discipline among all those who worked under president Kaunda as he himself was a disciplined and principled leader who did what he did for the benefit and interest of Zambians.

“I hope the young Zambians will appreciate and embrace not only who we were but what we are capable of doing if we work together under the values that president Kaunda espoused,” he said.

Bishop Mwamba further said he is acutely aware that Zambia seriously needs the ethical leadership Dr Kaunda exemplified and the moral values he lived by.

“We are losing the moral values and we need to rededicate ourselves to them afresh, to be awakened and stirred anew to pursue love, peace, justice, unity, and the appreciation of our rich diversity. In losing moral values Zambia is disintegrating as leaders deficient in ethical values are prey to arrogance, hubris, greed, hate, intolerance, tribalism and lies,” noted Bishop Mwamba. “President Kaunda’s values inspired hope and building a better Zambia for all. In celebrating his centennial we honour the values of our founders and commit ourselves to also building a better Zambia united in peace, justice, and equitable economic prosperity. This is possible by returning to spiritual values. That is the love of God and each other which we have abandoned by deluding ourselves to be a Christian nation buried in the Constitution. We need to return to ethical leadership anchored in truth, love, and inclusivity. Zambia needs honest men and women of integrity in the executive, judiciary, legislature, and fourth estate.”

Liberalism and capitalism are deadly lies: they estrange and alienate humans; they kill

By Azwell Banda

This year, on October the 24th, we shall observe our 60th independence anniversary.

It is meant to be a day of national celebration, a very happy day, a day we should honour all those Zambians who “fought for our independence”. We honour October 24th of every year since 1964 as the day we apparently consummated our defeat of the British and secured our freedom from their White Supremacist, racist, colonial domination of our land and its peoples. On this day, we celebrate all those of our freedom fighters dead or still alive, and all those who paid the ultimate price, for our “freedom from colonial rule”.

Sixty years after 1964, it is now safe and appropriate to ask: did we really, truly defeat the White Supremacist, racist, colonial, capitalist and imperialist British, and therefore secured our genuine “independence” on October 24, 1964, from them? Why did we fight the capitalist, imperialist, racist, colonial British? What, exactly, did we want to achieve, after our “victory” over the British? If we “defeated” the colonial, White Supremacist, racist, capitalist and imperialist British, what exactly did they lose, and what exactly did we win?

Time has come, at the mature age of 60 years as an “independent country”, to ask difficult questions about the content then and now, of our “independence” and the “struggle against colonialism”. All “national constitutions” inaugurate and sustain a particular economic, social, cultural and spiritual order for a people so constituted as a “nation”. Constitutions, among other things, define the sovereign power of a nation state. National constitutions define who is a citizen, how citizenship can be acquired, or lost. They confer rights and duties, on citizens. National constitutions define and set up the institutional framework for governing the nation. Constitutions provide for the defence of the nation. Ultimately of course, national constitutions define and vest the power to levy taxes and administer state resources.

A people that has defeated its colonial, racist, White Supremacist, capitalist, imperialist, oppressors, dispossessors and exploiters such as we supposedly did the British, through its victory, such a people secure its economic, social and political power and rights to fashion for itself its own national constitution. Who, actually, conceived, wrote and hoisted upon us our “independence constitution”? Our “independence constitution” was a “liberal constitution” complete with all the philosophy, contents, power apparatus, extreme individualism and state institutions of a liberal constitutional order. Who determined that the majority of colonised natives in Northern Rhodesia by 1963 were actually fighting for a “liberal constitutional order” as a resolution of their colonial status? Can our surviving “freedom fighters” answer these questions?

At the heart of “liberalism” and its capitalism and imperialism is one of the biggest and most deadly lies humans ever invented: the lie of the supremacy of the “individual”. The invention of this lie gave us “the capitalist” – the egotistic, self-seeking, greedy, avaricious and thoroughly capricious liar! “Freed” from the constraints of kings and human community, this racist, White Supremacist, colonial, capitalist and liberal fiction of “the supremacy of the individual” has been at the heart of the most profound revolutions in human knowledge and ability to produce things. No previous period in human history comes anywhere close to the massive productive capacity liberated by the liberal, racist, White Supremacist, colonial, capitalist and imperialist supper lie of the “supremacy of the individual”.

Today, the world confronts the possibility of a nuclear holocaust which could destroy the earth and everything it has, as some of the productive power this super lie has unearthed and threatens to unleash. We are already suffering the catastrophic consequences and effects of global warming and climate change unleashed by the unrestrained consumption and addiction to hydrocarbons, the liberal, racist, White Supremacist, colonial, capitalist and imperialist supper lie of the “supremacy of the individual” has wrought on Earth.

The world has suffered slavery, colonialism, two world wars and many genocides and a holocaust, now it harbours nuclear weapons which can destroy it, there are wars of profits and how to re-divide the world among the profit mongers everywhere, Israel is committing genocide live in Palestine, we are confronting the moment when a full nuclear Third World War will erupt – all of this is inspired by the now near universal super liberal lie of “the supremacy of the individual”.

By 1964, how on earth could any of our anti-colonial freedom fighters believe and accept that “liberalism” the ideology and practice of slavery, racism, White Supremacism, colonialism, capitalism and imperialism could possibly free us from colonialism and sustain us in our states of “freedom” and “independence”? The greatest lie about our “independence” and “freedom from colonialism” was the hoisting upon us, through our semi educated African elite natives, by the British, of a liberal capitalist constitution and its liberal constitutional order, which guaranteed and protected the British colonial economic and through this, their political interests and power, over us.

Western “liberalism”, no matter how cleverly concealed this is, is the acknowledgment, acceptance and practice of the lie of the “natural” social and economic inequality among human beings, also attested to by racism, White Supremacism, colonialism, capitalism and imperialism. Today, the Western way, the White European way, and its super lie of the “supremacy of the individual” is assumed to be the “natural order of things”. Thus, Benjamín Netanyahu of Israel, while denying that he is committing genocide in Palestine, says he is “defending Western civilisation”, by his savage, brutal war against Palestinians: he is aided and armed of course, by the capitalist powers and political leaders of the US and its Western allies.

“Liberalism” and its offshoot “capitalism”, are the estrangement, the separation, the alienation, of the individual from that which the human mind and human labour produce, and the eventual worshiping by human beings of that which they create and produce. Capitalism compels all of us to worship products, and ultimately, to worship money: and yet humans create products, and exchange them for money, which they create too. When we are separated, isolated from that which we create and are made to imbue it with mythical powers we turn things we create into gods, into our idols, into external powers which confront us and dominate us. This is what “liberal capitalism” is all about. Racism, slavery, White Supremacism and colonialism are the means by which “liberalism” guarantees its global domination, division of labour and distribution of benefits in order to sustain its unequal social and economic world system.

It is not only slaves, colonial natives and wage workers who are separated, estranged, alienated from the products of their labour: these produce goods or services, but these are owned and controlled by the capitalist class, leading to a sense of detachment from the fruits of their labour; by these very means so are the capitalists also simultaneously separated, estranged, alienated from their fellow humans and thus they require the services of the false and evil sub-ideologies of slavery, racism, colonialism and White Supremacism, to justify their suppression, domination, dispossession exploitation of other human beings, and wars.

Profits determine what is produced, and how it is produced, and not the human needs of the so-called “individual” who is “supreme”, according to liberalism. Thus, neither the direct individual involved in production nor the capitalist have any control over what is actually produced, and how it is produced: both are dominated by the need to make profits and stay ahead of their competition. With the rise of giant monopolies and national domination of industries, the “individual” sinks deeper into obscurity and yet the super liberal lie of the “supremacy of the individual” is sustained!

The exchange of commodities in the market for profits and the pathological addiction to accumulate both profits and wealth separates human beings from each other, as colonialism did between the coloniser and the colonised, thus requiring the justifications offered by racism and White Supremacism. This ruthless competition for profits and wealth and its inherent tendency for monopoly inevitably leads to periodic crises which require wars to reset the relationships and build momentum for more accumulation of profits and wealth. War is inevitable to liberalism and its capitalism. It is such that in fact “imperialism” is when “liberal free competition capitalism” degenerates into a few monopolies which dominate and divide and continuously re-divide the world sources of materials, markets and finance. At this point, the “individual” is long dead and buried!

Our colonial experience was the loss of our free and independent existence on our lands, our being divided into isolated individuals and tribes, estranged, alienated from our traditions, customs, languages, cultures, religions and connections to our natural environment. In short, colonialism was dehumanising and a totalitarian experience. Our struggles against colonialism and for freedom and independence therefore were not struggles for the promotion of the liberal lie of the “supremacy of the individual” and its capitalism, such as were imbedded in our so called “independence constitution”. To the contrary, it was not to deepen our submersion into the colonial “liberal realm” but to emerge out of it, that we fought.

After 60 years of our “independence”, it is clear we were fed a lie, a big fat deadly liberal lie. Our “independence” in 1964 legitimised the dominant ideology of liberalism and naturalised the social relations of capitalism, thus obscuring the underlying extreme colonial social, economic and political inequalities, while protecting our continued colonial exploitation and sustaining our alienation. Thus, correctly understand, it is not surprising that the liberal ideological hegemony and its capitalism confirmed by our “independence” have 60 years afterwards, produced their perfect zombie adherents in the UPND and its government, complete with their dystopic lies. And we are at our most hungry, unemployed, poor and grotesquely unequal!

Liberalism and capitalism are deadly lies: they separate, estrange, alienate individuals from their labour, products, fellow human beings, nature, and even themselves, all the while reproducing and perpetuating social inequality, hunger, unemployment, poverty, environmental destruction, exploitation and promoting violence and wars. It is time for our second independence struggle.

WORKING HARD IS THE ONLY WAY OUT OF CHALLENGES – HH AT KAPASA MAKASA UNIVERSITY IN CHINSALI

He writes…

There is only one way out of the challenges we are facing as individuals, family, and nation, and that is working hard.

In our quest to ensure equity, as government, we will ensure that education continues to be accessed freely because this is the best investment and best equaliser.

Work, work, and more work are the only way forward and not tantameni. This is time to work, and we call on every youth out there to continue working hard and putting in your best in everything you do.

This was our message when we visited students at Kapasa Makasa University in Chinsali a short while ago.

The students made a submission that they needed social amenities to support their education.

With my wife and First Lady Mutinta Hichilema, and indeed the Hichilema family, we will provide a bus, ambulance, and industrial borehole for the university.

While this will be implemented, we have also directed responsible government departments to provide more services to the institution and urged them to take advantage of CDF to address some of the issues posing as a challenge to students welfare.

This is time for Zambia to work, and indeed, let’s all get involved and get it solved.

May God bless all the students and pupils in our country.

Hakainde Hichilema
President of the Republic of Zambia.

Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway; A Criminal Contract

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

On 28th February 2023, the Government Republic of Zambia (GRZ) signed a US$650m, 25-year Public Private Partnership (PPP) Concession Agreement with a newly formed entity called; Macro Oceans Investment Consortium (MOIC) to construct a 327km dual-carriageway between Lusaka and Ndola cities.

Macro-Ocean Investment Consortium claims it’s a group of Chinese Companies, headlined by Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC International) and China Railways Seventh Group, which partnered with an unkown local entity.

The trouble with this contract was the project financing structure announced.

Before even approval was sought, Government announced that funding of the project will be met through loans from pension funds; NAPSA and Workers Compensation Fund Control Board.

Further, the contract stipulates that the Concessionaire will immediately take-over the operations of the toll gates and its revenues.

This meant that this contract was purporting to be a Public Private Partnership( PPPs) when infact its the public funded project through public pension funds and through toll fees paid by motorists before the road was even delivered.

This meant that the source of funding for the project is forced loans from public pension funds run and operated by Government, and free revenue to the Consortium.
If the Concessionaire believes in the project let it obtain its laons from private pension funds like AfLife and banks.

Clearly the Consortium will will not raise any money, but build the project from public funds, operate and mint billions of dollars for a period of 25years while purporting that this was a PPP.

Thieves.

Like the new Vedanta/ZCCM-IH contract, this is one of those contracts with crime and fraud, embedded at the heart of the contracts.

NRFA has just announced that it will handover the toll gates to the Concessionaire.

Below is their statement.

LUSAKA-NDOLA ROAD TOLLGATES TO BE HANDED OVER FOR UPGRADE

The National Road Fund Agency -NRFA- has started engaging stakeholders on the handover of three Tollgates on the Lusaka- Ndola road to the Concessionaire who will be upgrading the stretch into a dual carriageway.

NRFA Public Relations Manager ALPHONSIUS HAMACHILA says among the stakeholders being engaged are the Road Development Agency -RDA, the Concessionaire, and the workers unions.

Mr. HAMACHILA says this is to ensure that a smooth transition is undertaken within existing provisions of the law.

The Tollgates to be handed over are Katuba, between Lusaka and Kabwe, Manyumbi, between Kabwe and Kapiri Mposhi both in Central Province; and Kafulafuta, between Kapiri Mposhi and Ndola on the Copperbelt Province.

He says Government through the implementing Agencies will ensure that workers interests and rights are protected and jobs secured during the process.

PRICING MISCONCEPTION AND REAL WORLD PRICING – Fred M’membe

PRICING MISCONCEPTION AND REAL WORLD PRICING

I note that my article on rising inflation and the pass through effect on the maize price for 2024 pegged by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) at K330, which will predictably result in a huge increase in mealie meal prices and stock feed prices has generated a lot of interest. Most commentators are of the view that this creates an opportunity to invest in farming.

Now let’s test this assertion. The assumption being made here by those who think that this is a great business opportunity is based on the following assumptions:

1. That this is seller’s market and not a buyer’s market. Unfortunately, market dynamics have changed, and the current scenario is that the buyer has more say than the seller
2. That prices are set on a cost plus basis, meaning the producer adds up all his production costs and puts a mark, say 25%, to peg the selling price. Again, 19th-century thinking and total academic thinking, which works in a classroom but not in the real world.

Why do I say 19th-century thinking?
In that era, most products were produced by monopolies, and they could dictate the price, and one has no choice but to comply because there was no alternative, be it in price or quality terms. Hence the term “seller’s market”.

In the 21st century, buyers dictate the price based on quality and perceived value in the product or service you offer. So buyers will dictate the price, and if the price falls way above perceived value, they will not buy until you reduce the price.

People are queuing for mealie meal from Eagle Millling on account of price, while other brands are readily available. If Eagle Milling were to supply and fulfil national demand, competitor millers will have two options: shut down or lower their price to match Eagle Milling and run at a loss.

So if we go to chickens as a specific example, the reality of the matter is that the current selling price of between K100/K120 per chicken is likely to be below the cost of production given the monthly esacalating feed prices which can be confirmed by the Poultry Association of Zambia which means farmers are either at a break even level or making losses.

If costs of production are higher than selling price per unit of production, the business will shut down because it is eroding capital invested. So when commentators say this is creating a business opportunity because increased input price will result in increased selling price and therefore increased profits, then you need to rethink this theory.

This is the reason why farming is subsidised in most parts of the world to ensure constant/increased production and enhance food security. Most importantly, it ensures that farming remains profitable at all times.

Lastly, advocates of the sellers’ market or cost plus pricing should understand that the issue of affordability comes into play. With all costs going up, do they think the ordinary person will afford to absorb all these increases on a static salary? Your salary goes up by K850 per month, but the price increase for basic products you consume in your household goes up by K2,000?

Let’s stop textbook economics and apply practical solutions to cushion the ordinary Zambian in these hard times. Tactical targeted subsidies are critical to ensure food security and consequently national security. A hungry man is an angry man.

I truly appreciate all your comments on my article as it gives me an insight into how others view critical issues.

Leadership – Ethics & Morality
By Dickson Jere

Exactly two years ago – 29th April 2022 – President Hakainde Hichilema made some important remarks concerning his leadership and family. He pointed out that non of his children will ever be allowed to get a job in government while he is serving as President.

He said: “My children have been stopped by me and wife from working for government. None of them work for the government. Why? It is to leave space for your children and yourself to work for government”.

The President went on to explain that his children are already privileged by virtue of him being Head of State and therefore space must be given to others.

Powerful statement by the President. This should have set a tone for all those working under him.

You see, sometimes, those below try to appease their leaders by doing favours for them such as appointing their relatives into certain jobs in order to secure their trust and loyalty.

President Rupiah Banda had just been alerted that one of his sons had been “appointed” on a board in the energy sector. He was highly qualified for the job. However, the President – who didn’t know about the appointment – immediately ordered for his removal before the announcement was made.

“Even though I had no role in this, the buck stops at me,” the President said, adding that “other people’s” children should also get these government jobs.

He also made an important point. “What will happen when I am gone?”
Off course, the child will target of unnecessary ridicule and attack by the next leadership. His or her competence will always be in doubt (regardless) because of the perception that the job was given on account of being a child of the boss.

Legally, there is nothing that stops children of leaders from getting jobs in government. You can even argue about them being qualified and competent. But that is besides the point! It is just unethical and immoral to do so. Such appointments create unnecessary problems especially for the future of the same children.
How will they be supervised? By their parents?
How will they be disciplined?
Can you fire the child of your boss?

The position taken by President Hakainde Hichilema on this subject matter is the correct one in my view. When in public jobs, keep the children and spouses away from your institutions. Or better find them jobs elsewhere where you will not be conflicted.

LETTER TO KENETH DAVID KAUNDA:Puppets takes Over-Innocent Phiri

LETTER TO KENETH DAVID KAUNDA:

Puppets takes Over.

Comrades!
As a Patriot just like some of you allow me to send the following letter as we remember the life of our founding father Dr. KK.

Dear Comrade Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda, it has been three years since you left us, and today you are being praised by we your Children, grand children, friends and Brothers.

1. As I write this letter to you I wish to report to you that the People you intrusted with the responsibility of taking care of the affairs of our Country and the continent of Africa have again assembled in various places claiming they are remembering your legacy and yet they don’t believe in your humanism, Pan Africanism or indeed the spirit of ubuntu 😭

2. Supper Ken, as we called you, I wish to report to you that your prophesy has come to pass. The Colonialists you fault with your comrades in arms abena Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, their Children are coming back in the name of investors Courtesy of our President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema supported by his Women and men in government.

3. Comrade KK, I further wish to report to you that all the Industries you left are no longer existing and yet those claiming to be leaders say they are working day and night to transform our lives.

4. Dear KK and Mama Betty Kaunda, President HH who demonized his predecessor over borrowed funds he has continued doing so while postponding the debt repaying to the future generations.

5. KK, we the Poor are still being told to tighten our belts while they in offices are enjoying free fuel, accommodation, and traveling allowances for the job we employed them to do. They drink treated food, treated Water something did not do during their campaigns.

6. Comrade KK & Mama Betty I remember very well that during your tenure in office you declined your Boys and Girls in government (Ministers, PSs, Director etc) as you called them never to do business while still serving using the law known as ” Leadership Code”. True to that, your Boys and Girls served us with humanity and this applied to your own biological Children Such Cde Panji, Cheswa, Kambarage, Kaweche not forgetting my good friend elder Brother in the name of Tilyenji KaundaTJ as I love calling him. They all left State House without Mansions nor Cars.

7. Cde KK and Mama Betty I’m here to tell you that the current Boys and Girls in offices have gone on rampage giving jobs to each other, their relatives , nieces , Wives, and friends as well as promotions and when we querry them they arrogantly tell us that “there is nothing Wrong “😭 It is their time to eat.

8. Dear Comrades KK & Mama Betty, the current Politicians have turned electoral polls as sensus to determine which tribe is larger than the other😭I wish you came back for a 15 minutes supper Ken with your fellow Patriots such as Modibo, Kamudzu , Joshua, Patrice, Garve etc and return to your grace thereafter.

9. Comrade Kaunda, you may wish to know that in an effort to imitate you or rather beat your legacy the new dawn government and President Hichilema have introduced what they call free education, unfortunately the Children to the Ministers, PSs, Ambassadors, Directors are not being taken to such Schools all because the free education they have given us is free of knowledge. I now wish to humbly appeal on their behalf that you can help them with the free education script you used during your time. Further you will be shocked that even when they get sick they don’t get treated locally and yet they are telling us the poor Citizens that medical drugs is well stocked in the health facilities.
Cde KK, I recall very well that yourself you died from within our Hospitals.

10. Cde KK they have told us we don’t have the capacity to run the Mines, builds roads and shopping Malls and yet UNZA graduates engineers every day😭

11. Comrade KK, I further wish to inform you that your sacrifice is being demonized because the current People claiming to be leaders are saying Zambia was in wrong hands since Independence.

12. The institution you helped transformed from a Police force to Police Service in the 19th Century about, it’s charrecteritics has remained the same just like a Chameleon changes it’s colours but not behavior.

13. Super Ken, when we speak to these facts facts we are being arrested by, insulted in the same manner you and your boys and Girls were humiliated by the Colonizers. However, we have told them that we are strong.

14. Comrades, KK and Mama Betty, if you came back you will be shocked that the majority of those who have betrayed your legacy are the ones in fore front giving powerful speeches about you. In short they have turned your Memorial Services as their platforms to mobilize for their next elections.

15. Shamelessly, your village Lubwa by now should have been turned into a Messium for tourism unfortunately they have even betrayed your father’s Burial site in Chinsali a place where President HH and his entourage have congregated from. When asked about these hard questions they tell us such place will only be transformed when funds are made available 😭 and yet they are rewarding each other millions and thousands in the name of compensations and yet you and your Boys and Girls you never demanded for any comansation for fight you fault.

16. Super Ken, you Preached about Peace, Love and Unity but I wish to report to you that President HH and former President ECL are not friends at all. The last time they sat together was during this very day the time you died. From time to time we hear new terms such as “lmingalato, Kutumpa uko, all wish you can rise from the dead and unite our two Statement and later go back perhaps 😭

17. During your time you demonstration on the need to have young People (Youths) in government because you had a strong belief we the youths of Africa. Super Ken, please that the story line has completely changed, the People you considered as retirees have been exhumed and put back in these Public offices rendering the future of a black Child blaired. All because they financially sponsored elections victory.

18. Comrade KK and Mama Betty, you may wish to note that the profession you dearly respect that of a Teacher has been reduced to nothing in the current dispensation. Your fellow Teachers are living in poor houses, poor Salaries , Head Teachers do not even have Personal to holder Cars because they have choosen to respect a District Commissioner a Political Party cadre, PS cadre etc. Your Teachers have cried foul and no one is hearing them.

19. Comrades KK and Mama Betty Kaunda, if you cane back for a moment and gave it a critical but closer look into the Independence and autonomy of the three arms of government namely; the Judiciary, Legislature and the Executive Mmm🤔 I sometimes feel like never to wake up the following morning. A serious capture.

20. You taught our Parents about the back to the land concept in an effort to hence food Production or Security. And you further said Maize or Nshima shall be our stable food, Sir we are being told that eat Casava or we should rather stop reproduction that we don’t bother the government 😭

21. The KK 11 National or Chipolopolo it is
something you may not want to discuss but one thing for sure confusion is everywhere Comrade Kaunda.

In short we are on our own.

Please kindly share this letter with Thomas Sankara, Chris Harne, Mugabe Keita etc.

However, it’s almost two months and I can’t figure out where I will be the next day, but certainly my I can’t go home, it’s like it’s not there, my enemies have taken over the good life I had with my family.

The little plans I had, here and there, have not worked and I am now relaying on God. All the people I thought would sort me out have kind of gone quiet, some of them tried but, we got little or no success.

However, I am more at peace because, somehow, I feel God put me in a position where I have to depend on Him, totally. It’s like I have let go all my defenses and plans and put everything in God.

I am like a crippled man described in the Acts of the Apostles 14:5-18;

“A man sat there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled from birth; and as he listened to Paul preaching, he managed to catch his eye. Seeing that the man had the faith to be cured, Paul said in a loud voice, ‘Get to your feet – stand up’, and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.”

Of course God works through people, so, I am not ruling anyone out, because someone has to be used to get me up like Paul.

My situation is not peculiar to me, alone, there some of you who may feel stuck like me, the people we thought would help us easily are seemingly failing, but a “Paul”, will be sent to us and make us move.

These situations are an opportunity for us to recognize that we are just human, we can’t do everything all by ourselves. We need to abide in God, and believe that He is alive in all situations and circumstances.

But when God sorts us out, we should remember that, it was not entirely our efforts, or those who helped us, but God, therefore we should look up and thank him for His grace.

In the meantime let’s thank God for our lives and this new week, because, even when we think God is not with us, there’s something very evident to show HE is here, keeping us alive, and He will look into other issues at His own time.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK, AND REMEMBER HE IS HERE AND HE WILL SORT US OUT.

FOREIGN SEED COMPANIES ARE KILLING LOCAL SEEDS

…. In opening and planting this bag of seed you are committing yourself NEVER to re use or replant the seed from this harvest….

URGENT and IMPORTANT for Action Today Sunday 28 April 2024 to all leaders in the Ekklesia

The Ultimate Agenda to Stop Farmers from Saving, Shairing and Reusing Seeds in Zambia

In the 2022/23 agric season, we accessed soya bean seed through the Kasanshi foundation for planting at our family farm. The seed was from SEEDCO. When I read what was written on the bag, I shared it with my brother in law who is an agronomist. We laughed it off and it ended there.

What was written on the bag of soya seed in my own words says something like ….”. In opening and planting this bag of seed you are committing yourself NEVER to re use or replant the seed from this harvest.”

This week I have been re awakened to realise that this is not a joke. The global seed companies are determined to strengthen laws in countries that will make it possible for them to prosecute farmers who replant the seed they have bought with their own money. It is already happening in some countries. They want to maximise profits at the expense lives and food security

The proposed Plant Variety Breeders Rights (PBR) Bill of 2024 to be tabled before parliament in the next two months in Zambia is an attempt to achieve the agenda as outlined above.

I don’t have the time to go into details but the proposed PBR Bill of 2024 which will repeal the 2007 one intends to make it easy for Zambia to be part of UPOV, an international union that discriminates against small scale farmers and criminalises farmers rights to save, share and re use seeds.

The PBR Bill of 2024 if passed in Zambia will among other things

  1. Increase control and commercial benefits for global seed companies at the expense of small scale farmers and food security
  2. Defy principles of good governance, national interest and farmers rights

In view of this, I encourage that we the Ekklesia ( the Spiritual Governing Council) in Zambia take the following steps

  1. Legislate from Mount Zion that PBR Bill of 2024 never happened in Zambia according to Matthew 18:18,19
  2. That our honourable MPs will be honourable enough to see through the deception of greedy global seed companies to achieve an evil agenda threatening our sovereinty and food security and further impoverishing small scale farmers who feed this nation by shooting down this bill.
  3. Our District Overseers and pastors will lobby their members of parliament and put it on record that as a church, we would like them to VOTE AGAINST the bill.

Yours in pursuit of destiny

FAZ PRESIDENT’S CORNER: What a possible FIFA ban really means for Zambia

FAZ PRESIDENT’S CORNER: What a possible FIFA ban really means for Zambia

Welcome to this week’s football interaction to you our football family. It has been quite an eventful few days in our game that has seen our annual general meeting halted by a court order and also the football family reflect on the 31st Gabon disaster anniversary. Naturally the football family is still reeling from the after effects of the foiled AGM but we are hopeful that the football family will navigate its way out of this crisis. We have not just incurred unnecessary costs but also suffered the infamy of mixing politics with football management.

It may not be prudent to bore the football family with what may have been done right but we are working in the background to ensure that our game survives a possible ban from world soccer governing body FIFA. The world soccer governing body has more than provided guidance on the way out of our current crisis. FAZ has taken it upon itself to be fully compliant of all the possibilities that may ensure that Zambia averts a possible ban from FIFA. We have made it a point to be compliant with the laws of the land and also football laws.

Curiously, there are some stakeholders that are seemingly excited at the prospects of a possible ban. A few are not even domiciled in our country and can therefore not bear the brunt of a possible ban as they enjoy the glories of social media to fan the fire. Our duty remains to do our best to preserve the integrity of our game.

FIFA has routinely guided that football disputes can only be resolved through established channels within FAZ or FIFA statutes. It is a point we have belabored over the years to induct non-football persons with football interests to appreciate. However, we are mindful of the wishy-washy situations that overwhelm third parties that desire to take over the management of the game through the back door. Our position remains that we will be respectful of both national and FIFA rules in negotiating our way out of this crisis.

Everything we will do will be meant to ensure that our Copper Queens do not miss out on their hard earned Olympic Games participation, the Chipolopolo continue participation in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the under-17 girls remain in the thick of FIFA World Cup qualifiers. FIFA has more than made it clear that if Zambia remains adamant about this litigious path non-FAZ members have embraced, we will be sanctioned. Every well meaning Zambian knows that it would be scandalous for our teams to be barred from participating in international events at the instigation on non-members.

A FIFA ban would mean non-participation in the Olympics for our Copper Queens, Chipolopolo won’t take part in FIFA World Cup qualifiers, under-17 girls will forfeit qualifiers for the world cup with the women senior national team barred from participating in the WAFCON that they have already qualified for. We do not know of any sane Zambian that wishes such wretchedness for our great nation.

FIFA has given us up to April 30 to furnish them with all the information about the Zambian situation before they can make a decision. We are hopeful that we can find a solution long before FIFA has to intervene. As FAZ we have been in touch with all critical stakeholders to ensure that we quickly resolve this impasse. FIFA provided a sense of what we have to do to avert possible sanctions and from the FAZ end, we have been impressing on stakeholders to take heed.

Finally, we appeal to all soccer loving Zambians to remain calm as we navigate our way through this crisis. While the embarrassment of having a legitimately and legally sanctioned AGM will be with us for a long time, we have no doubt that common sense will eventually prevail.

Have a productive week!

Indian man googled “how to kill a human instantly with a knife” before stabbing his ex-girlfriend

0

A 25-year-old Indian man, Sriram Ambarla, who was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend in London, had searched how to kill humans with a knife on the internet right before the attack. He slashed Sona Biju’s throat before stabbing her nine times at a London restaurant in 2022. The incident was caught on camera.

Ambarla, from Hyderabad, attacked Biju, 23, at the restaurant where she worked after threatening to murder her if she did not agree to marry him.

When Ms Biju turned him down by saying that she “did not want to live by his rules”, Ambarla grabbed her by the neck and began stabbing her. She survived the vicious attack but had to spend a month at a hospital in a critical condition.

Ambarla was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday, April 25, 2024, after pleading guilty to attempted murder. He also pleaded guilty to having a knife without lawful reason in a public place, for which he was sentenced to 12 months in prison concurrently.

During his sentencing hearing, the court was told that moments before Ambarla attacked, he searched online for “What happens if a foreigner murders someone in the UK”, “How easy is it to kill someone with a knife” and “How to kill a human instantly with a knife.

In addition to the prison sentence, Ambarla was given a lifetime restraining order to never make contact with the victim.

The 2022 attack came after Ambarla manipulated and physically and mentally abused Ms Biju for years, the court was told.

The two began dating in 2017 after they met at a Hyderabad college.

However, the relationship quickly turned abusive, leading to their split around 2019 during which Ambarla used threats of self-harm to control Ms Biju.

He repeatedly showed up at her house unexpectedly and tried to blackmail her into marrying him, the victim said.

In 2022, both Ambarla and Ms Biju moved to the UK 2022 to pursue a master’s degree at the University of East London but the abuse continued.

Ambarla would regularly contact the restaurant she worked at to talk to her and order food in hopes that she would deliver it to his house

Weeks after they moved, he visited the restaurant, where Ms Biju served him food, treating him just like any other patron. He sat there looking through his phone in an unsettling manner, she said.

Moments later, he approached her and repeated his offer to marry her or else he would kill her. When she refused, he took out a knife and stabbed her repeatedly.

He told the police that he snapped when he overheard her talking about wanting to celebrate the breakup.

Nico Williams accuses Atletico fans of racism

0

Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams scored in their 3-1 La Liga defeat at Atletico Madrid, where he accused a section of home fans of racially abusing him.

The Spain winger requested referee Juan Martinez to halt the match midway through the first half at Estadio Civitas Metropolitano.

The game was paused for an announcement to the crowd, and Atletico players Antoine Griezmann and Jose Maria Gimenez seemed to urge their fans to cease the chanting before play resumed.

“I have gone to take a corner and I have heard monkey sounds,” 21-year-old Williams told DAZN.

“There are stupid people everywhere, but nothing happens. We have to keep working.

“I hope this changes little by little because in the end we are fighting internally and externally against this.”

Williams faced booing from some fans throughout the match, which escalated when the game was halted and continued even after he scored the equalizer just before half-time.

Talking about his goal celebration, he said: “It comes with a bit of anger.

“It is not normal that they still insult you because of your skin tone.”

Williams’ brother and team-mate Inaki Williams said: “The jeers should be directed at the people who said the insults and not at the victim.”

Writing on social media, Atletico said the club were “against any act of racism or hatred”.

A La Liga statement read: “There’s no place for racist or hateful behaviour in sport.

“La Liga vehemently condemns any racist acts and will continue working to eradicate this inexcusable behaviour from our sport.”

Williams scored to equalize Rodrigo de Paul’s opener, but Angel Correa’s goal early in the second half and an own goal from Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon secured Atletico’s victory. Atletico is now six points ahead of fifth-placed Athletic with five games remaining this season, putting them in a strong position to secure Champions League football next season.

Last month, Real Madrid lodged a complaint with Spanish legal authorities after a video surfaced on social media allegedly showing Atletico fans chanting a racist slur aimed at Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr.

Australians protest against rise of killings of women

0

Rallies have occurred throughout Australia following a surge in recent incidents of violence against women.

Protesters are advocating for gender-based violence to be officially recognized as a national emergency, with calls for more stringent laws to combat it.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has acknowledged the severity of the issue, describing it as a national crisis.

On average, a woman in Australia has lost her life to violence every four days this year.

Organizer Martina Ferrara emphasized the need for alternative reporting avenues for victim survivors, empowering them to share their stories and navigate their healing and reporting processes.

“And we want the government to acknowledge this is an emergency action and take immediate action.”

Speaking at a march in the capital Canberra attended by thousands of protesters, Mr Albanese admitted the government at all levels needed to do better.

“We need to change culture, the attitudes, the legal system and the approach by all governments,” he said.

“We need to make sure that this isn’t up to women, it’s up to men to change men’s behaviour as well,” he added.

Responding to calls by protestors for violence against women to be classified as a national emergency, Mr Albanese said the classification was normally used during floods or bushfires to release a temporary injection of cash.

“We don’t need one month or two months – we need to address this in a serious way, week by week, month by month, year by year,” he said.

His comments were met with mixture of heckles and cheers,

But Australia’s federal attorney general, Mark Dreyfus, has rejected holding a royal commission into gender-based violence.

Mr Albanese has repeatedly called gender-based violence an epidemic but it’s not new: in 2021, marches took place across the country over allegations of sexual misconduct within the government.

In Adelaide, it was estimated around 3,000 people rallied outside the city’s parliament building on Saturday.

Protests have also taken place in Brisbane, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Newcastle over Friday and Saturday, 9News reported.

Recent killings have put the issue back in the spotlight.

Earlier this month, a man stabbed six people to death in a Sydney shopping centre. Five of the victims were women and the police are looking at whether they were the target.

New South Wales Police Force commissioner Karen Webb said “the offender focused on women and avoided the men”.

The rallies also coincided with the charging of a man with the alleged murder of 30-year-old mother-of-four Erica Hay, who was found dead after a house fire in Perth earlier this month.

In all, 27 women have been killed in the first 119 days of 2024, according to data compiled by the campaign group Destroy the Joint.

Response to Chris Zumani’s poisonous snakes theory

0

We are reeling from the shock of reading Chris Zumani’s diatribe on certain individuals in which he literally tries to besmirch, defame, ridicule and scandalise them in Part 1 of his latest article; “UPND 12 MOST POISONOUS SNAKES THAT WILL BITE AND DUMP HH IN 2026…”

The article is devoid of any truth or substance at all save for utter insults! Zumani, who is former political advisor to former president Edgar Lungu accuses the said individuals of being unprincipled turncoats pretending to ingratiate themselves with President Hichilema in return for a few crumbs of bread.

He writes, “In 2026 when HH is shamelessly detested, politically rejected and brutally defeated by a countrywide mob of voters, these snakes – political traitors will automatically evaporate from him, denounce Bally and start singing for the new Republican President.”

He continues, “These are slippery political traitors who pay false allegiance to HH and are manipulatively dancing treachery at Community House today because of what they are benefiting for now and nothing else.”

Since he wants to refer to others as snakes for whatever position they’ve chosen to undertake, may we hasten to remind Zumani that prior to securing his most coveted and lofty position as one of the senior aides to President Lungu, he was a vicious and vociferous critic of the same man that today he wants to pretend to love to the moon, and back! What does this make of him? A pseudo- intellectual who cannot hold his ground as long as ‘T/born and chips’ are on offer on the table?

Anyway, the beauty about Social media is that we can’t easily erase our past – the ghosts will always remain rattling in the closet reminding us of whatever we said or did in the past. For instance, here’s a breakdown of some of the unkindest things Zumani wrote about the man who was yet to be his boss: In one of his Facebook posts, the former political advisor to Lungu, described him as “corrupt” and a “play boy!”

In a Mid-March 2018 posting on Social media, Zumani made the following startling observations, albeit in a satirical manner, “The Republican Play Boy in State House has no heart for poor Zambians or anyone apart from flying the world and enriching his wallet, everyday. Zambians must not allow a spoiled and corrupt President who enjoys luxury life using and abusing tax payers money like a mad ancient King to rule us for another term. Lungu and PF must be legally and peacefully retired in 2021 through a Armageddon vote of protest and humiliation.”

And after Lungu had addressed the National Assembly on our principles and values a few days later, he was again on fire on Social media, “A corrupt President with abnormal wealth cannot teach us to fight corruption. Lungu needed to repent yesterday in parliament!”

The following month, he had this to say about this scandalous president, “In my heat, I just want to see Lungu gone either by impeachment soon or in 2021 by vote.”

Like a clever house cat that defecates in a bag of mealie meal and quickly covers it to avoid it’s ‘misdeeds’ being detected; of course, Zumani had to strike like a bolt of lightening and deactivate his Facebook account to save himself from any embarassment of having to explain his sudden change of heart about the man that he so much loathed for his thieving and corrupt activities.

As a matter of fact, the same Laura Miti that he wants to scandalise today was actually peeved and absolutely disappointed over the new route Zumani had taken.

“Chris Zumani Zimba, the new Political Advisor to President Lungu, has deleted his Facebook Account. It contained scathing criticism of the President and presidency,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “That is worrying because his analysis was largely on point.”

Why does Zumani want to pretend today that his former boss had no flaws at all……that he was a perfect leader when he actually kept reminding us about his huge catalogue of misdeeds?

Former politician, Ludwig Sondashi is famed for saying if you want to know how a crocodile lives in water, ask a hippo. There may never be a better person to explain Lungu’s extent of corruption than Chishimba Kambwili, once a senior cabinet minister in the PF regime. From time to time, Kambwili would insist that, “Lungu, ukufuma kutukondo ukufika kumishishi (from his toes to his hair), it is all corruption! His walk is corruption, his talk is corruption, his sitting is corruption, whatever he touches is corruption.” Simply put, Lungu is the worst person in our recent history to have occupied Plot 1 Independence Avenue and Zumani would be doing us a favour not try and launder his image. So what is Zumani trying to tell us?

We may not be Hichilema’s spokespersons, but we know for sure that Zumani is absolutely the wrong person to advise the President as to who he must be associating with or not. Zumani and his ilk haven’t hesitated to demonstrate their pathological hatred for Hichilema; if anything, they’d love to continue seeing him in the company of the so-called ‘slippery individuals’ who may turn against him if at all he was to tumble in the next elections. Hichilema is keeping an open-door policy whereby he’s willing to work with former leaders such as Kavindele and Brigadier Gen. Godfrey Miyanda among others to help him run the country. If anyone has a problem with this, that’s their own bone to chew!

May we now digress and consider the three individuals that Zumani desperately tries to malign and portray in the negative light, specifically:

  1. Enock Kavindele

Zumani dismisses senior citizen and former vice president Enock Kavindele as a legendary money-lover and dangerous slippery fellow with zero trace of patriotism: mainly known for being a proxy of exploitive Western imperialists at the expense of Zambians. He also insinuates that Mr. Kavindele is one of Zambia’s former Vice Presidents without anything much to show or talk about, politically.

“In 2016, using his business tricks to win Lungu’s signature for his US$1.2-billion North Western Railway project, Enock Kavindele endorsed the president as “the best candidate,” he rumbles on.

We don’t know what our colleague is smoking or drinking for him to infer such wild allegations. Nifwaka yachingoni loko ni Chavuma water?

In case Zumani was too young to remember or perhaps the one who is motivating him to say such things was too inebriated with Jameson to recall anything; Kavindele has been involved in business from a tender age! When most of his peers have been found wanting and probed or arrested for drag trafficking or corruption, Kavindele remains with no history of appearing at any police station for questioning on any wrong doing. He’s been above board in his business activities; whether it’s diamonds trade or whatever one would wish to speculate about. Is it surely a crime to partner with those from the West in business ventures unless those from the East?

We find it quite laughable and ludicrous for Zumani to describe Kavindele as “one of Zambia’s former Vice Presidents without anything much to show or talk about politically…..” Like, seriously? Isn’t this the man that called for a press briefing in 2006 and announced to the whole world that he was taking a back seat from politics? How did Lungu’s former political advisor expect him to be in the news always?

If we may take a step back into the annals of history, when everyone in the nation were actually dead scared of KK and cadres, or vigilantes if you like, would eulogize him as a ‘demigod,’ Kavindele had the guts to take the risk and challenge him for the UNIP top leadership position at the Mulungushi Rock of Authorities! Frail old women had to be sponsored to protest naked at his challet as the dreaded vigilantes bayed for his blood! He had to pull-out of the race at the last minute for the sake of peace and harmony.

Just in case Zumani isn’t aware as we suspect he’s still a raw political scientist; this great son of North western province that went on to serve as Chingola Member of Parliament over a long period of time before becoming Republican vice president, actually never enjoyed any emoluments from the state at any given time. This is acknowledged in the letter President Kaunda wrote to him on February 2, 1989 upon learning about the same from the Secretary General of the party, UNIP. Kavindele was in parliament to serve his people, and not for personal aggrandisement as we are witnessing today from most of our leaders.

Zumani argues that Kavindele attempted to use his ‘business tricks’ to win Lungu’s signature for his almost moribund Northwest Railway Line project. What sort of reasoning is this? First and foremost, for any project of such magnitude to take off, you definitely require government support! As a matter of fact, this project must have taken-off a long time ago save for one selfish and corrupt cabinet minister in the MMD regime who was quick to throw in the spanners. The project has been in the offing since 2003, it’s just fair that we must seeing some traction.

Kavindele didn’t take a walk into Lungu’s campyon his own accord; Lungu actually dispatched a senior military officer from North western province as an emissary to try and convince the former vice president to consider joining forces with him. He might have attempted to try and solicit support from Lungu in this regard; however, we aren’t surprised that Lungu never bothered to endorse his signature on the project despite Kavindele tirelessly campaigning for him as the Patriotic Front did not have any development agenda for North western province. They were definitely keen to let it remain a Cinderella province for as long as they wanted as they continued milking it off of its natural resources such as gold and mukula!

If a president such as Hichilema has done the unimaginable such as supporting this magnificent project, what can stop anyone from describing him as the best President?

Despite contributing the bulk of the national treasury, North western province remained largely ignored in terms of infrastructural development. Call him whatever names you wish, the people of North western and indeed national at large are obviously, solidly behind Kavindele. This mammoth project obviously brings with it immense opportunities – job opportunities, ease of transportation of goods and our people and above all, economic boost for the province and Nation at large.

  1. Laura Miti

Zumani says Miti is a slippery human rights activist who has betrayed Zambians on moral grounds and will surely run away from HH after his defeat in 2026.

“Has Laura Miti protested naked at police headquarters before IG Grapheal Musamba against all the growing human rights violations?” Zumani wonders.

Does this so-called political scientist really knows what he’s talking about?

Miti is not a friend or colleague of ours per se; however, having observed her from a distance over a long period of time, we can put our necks on the chopping board and vouch for her. She is not only down-to-earth, but a genuine human being who believes in fiercely defending the rights of the downtrodden in society.

Yes, she may be enjoying a few perks as a Commissioner at the Human Rights Commission today; but surely, she’s not the type to be blinded by such trappings of power and forget the people altogether. Contrary to wild allegations by Zumani; on several occasions, Miti has broken ranks with her fellow Commissioners and called a spade a spade, even as it seemed unfashionable
to do so!

Recently as parliament was expending its energy and resources trying to ‘fix’ a canterkerous and uncouth MP for catcalling the President on the floor of the August House by instituting disciplinary measures, Miti immediately took to Social media and wrote as follows: “OK, ku Parliament kuli kantu! This level of please-the-boss is not good for any President or leader. Surely, Parliamentary administration has more serious issues to direct it’s energies to, than a catcall by an MP known to be less than mature.”

And speaking to a Daily Nation reporter not long after that, she described as abuse of the Judiciary by the UPND in its attempt to re-open former President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility case for which the Constitutional Court had conclusively determined and pronounced itself.

As the tiff between the Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa and the PF leadership got to a climax, she again took to Social media and took a swipe at the police for taking over the PF Secretariat.

“It’s difficult to believe that UPND had no hand in the confusion that arose in the Patriotic Front (PF) because it is practically impossible for Miles Sampa to organise a coup against his own party without the support of the State,” she stated.

She wondered as to who was making the final decisions on how the police should protect the PF events.

“All I can say to whoever it is, re-think of your strategy!”

Zumani says he’s yet to see Miti protesting naked at Police Service headquarters. As an intellectual, we expect him to fathom that we are no longer in the Cha-cha-cha era where violence was the norm whenever our freedom fighters wanted to drive a point home. This is the 21st century, for God’s sake! Whenever differences arise, it calls for the contestation of ideas through dialogue and debate as opposed to throwing stones or resorting to insults.

  1. Sunday Chanda

Zumani accuses Chanda of having been ‘chewing’ big time every day when Lungu was in State House, and yet today, he has abandoned him.

“Apart from sacrificing a highly respected civil servant, former police IG in Hon. Malama to adopt Sunday Chanda on PF ticket in Kanchibiya, President Lungu used his own resources and networks at his disposal to finance and support Sunday Chanda to become a parliamentarian in 2021,” Zumani claims.

Come on guys! What personal resources did Lungu sacrifice apart from tax payers’ money naimwe! If Chanda is reading this article, we wish to encourage him to remain resolute, and not to be swayed by the likes of Zumani who are simply doing their master’s bidding.

To start with, Malama wasn’t a popular candidate in Kanchibiya; he lamentably failed to deliver to the expectations of the people in the area, no wonder the local leadership wasn’t keen to re-adopt him. This is the reason why he chose to blindly support the nonsensical Bill 10 project to please Lungu and his cohorts as he knew he didn’t stand any chance of being adopted by the grassroots.

It’s on record that Chanda was a vicious critic of Hichilema during his time as PF Media Director. Day in and out, he’d venture to every TV and radio station or indeed Newspapers to malign or pour scorn on HH. He was just doing his job. However, Chanda is now representing the good people of Kanchibiya in parliament, and not himself! They say when two elephants fight, the grass suffers! Chanda has put politics aside and concentrating on doing his best to meet the aspirations of his people.

Why is Chanda currently one of the best performing MPs in the country at the moment? It’s simple…..he’s working with the government of the day to deliver to people’s expectations. Whether you want to call him “Bally’s step son of CDF” or not, Chanda has delivered phenomenal projects in the area the shortest time he’s been in parliament such as feeder-roads, schools, clinics, youth empowerment projects and sustainable agriculture etc while other MPs continue wallowing in slumber, be it from the ruling party or opposition.

Mr. President, why can’t you consider making this brilliant youngman Foreign Affairs minister as a way of further fostering national unity to shame your critics?

In his desperation to remain relevant to Lungu in his grand scheme of things, Zumani claims that if Chanda betrayed Lungu with “kasaka ka ndalama” who made him get to where he is today, what more the stingy HH who is just throwing empty promises on him….What nonsense!

Again, we aren’t quite sure whether our brother’s mental faculties are still intact or not. What evidence does Zumani has that Hichilema is stingy apart from rumours he might have picked on the streets?

Before he became President, HH had a history of using his own resources to sponsor orphans and vulnerable children from primary school through to college or university, sinking boreholes in villages or cities, constructing schools and clinics and of course dip tanks; you might do us a great favour by availing us evidence of Lungu’s charitable exploits before he went to State House!

We shall end here for now as we await Zumani’s second episode.

Edgar Lungu accuses President Hichilema and the UPND government of abuse of power

0

Former President Edgar Lungu has accused UPND government under President Hichilema of wanton abuses and a break down of the rule of law.In light of this, the Former President wondered under what criteria President Hichilema ranked among the top 5 Presidents in Africa.

Below is the Full Statement

Good morning fellow citizens,

Last Sunday a fellow Zambian named Martin Mbaya, a PF member and known associate of my family was forcefully ejected from a church service at Lusaka’s Bethel Christian Centre in Nyumba Yanga while praying.

The unfortunate incident occurred in full view of his wife, children and other congregants that remain shocked today at the action of unruly DEC officers. From the church they drove him to his house where they broke down doors, stormed into his house and commenced a search, which I understand was for money, that could belong to “Edgar Lungu.”

The search ensued from morning to midnight, but alas no money was found.
My point here is that what happened to Martin could easily happen to any Zambian under the current administration of President Hakainde Hichilema where the rule of law is breaking down fast right in front of our eyes.

You have seen good people like mama Edith Nawakwi and Geofrey Mwamba being frustrated at the airport whenever they attempt to travel out of the country for medical attention.

You have seen people like Dr Chris Zimba, Emmanuel Mwamba, Raphael Nakachinda, Chilufya Tayali being arrested on flimsy grounds while others like Hon Given Lubinda have been dragged to court without enough evidence for conviction.

Sadly, all these wanton abuses are occurring at a time President Hichilema is being ranked as a ´top five leader´on the continent, we wonder what criteria is being used in the light of all abuses in Zambia.

All we ask is that the government of President Hakainde Hichilema march their words with action regarding the rule of law and arrest wrong doers only after thorough investigations have been concluded.

That is what President Hichilema has publicly called for repeatedly after all.
Zambia is a democratic state not a DICTATORSHIP where law enforcement become the law unto themselves, its not the wild wild west.
The international community, the European Union group, Britain and the United States and fellow African embassies should take cognisance of these rising abuses under Mr Hichilema.

In a democratic country governed by the rule of law, how can law enforcement agencies disrupt church proceedings with impunity, forcefully pick out a suspect whom you haven’t established a case against and bundle him into a car and break into his house?
If law enforcement officers can break into houses and churches where will citizens seek protection?
I urge peace loving Zambians to speak out against rising abuses and shrinking democratic space because if we remain silent today it won’t be long before police start attacking people at funeral gatherings and hospitals.
Crimes must be probed but let us remember that everyone is presumed innocent in Zambia until tried and found guilty by a competent court of law. I pray with you that our country doesn’t slide into total dictatorship soon.

It cannot be denied that Hakainde Hichilema is presiding over a government where tribalism is rife, despite his promises to the contrary.

Any honest person who has not buried their head in the sand, and are not subjective will agree that key appointments to government institutions in government, parastatals and quasi government institutions are dominated by our good people from the Zambezi regions. Of course this is not to say that they do not deserve those appointments, but in a country like ours where positions people are appointed to are at a premium, any wise leader will remember to balance up, going by Hakainde’s own mantra.

It is indisputable that Hakainde’s predecessor Edgar Lungu also presided over a tribal administration which was largely dominated by our good people from the Eastern and Northern regions of the country. However, that too did not help him when it came to the 2021 general elections going by how people voted in those elections.

Hakainde promised that he would do things differently from how Edgar managed affairs, not only in terms of tribal balancing but on other national matters. However, the two years he has been in office have shown that he was merely politicking in order to be voted into office, so that he could implement his own narrow agenda.

In fact, if there is a President who should have the incentive to work towards balancing, it’s Hakainde, going by how national his election was, as aside from his traditional strongholds of Southern, Western, North-Western and part of Central Province, this time he managed to get significant votes on the Copperbelt, Lusaka, Eastern, Northern and other provinces to put him greatly over the top, almost 60 percent of the vote total. Hakainde for instance obtained 49 percent votes to Edgar’s 51 percent in Eastern Province. In Northern Province he won in Kaputa, Mpulungu, Senga Hill, Mbala etc. In Luapula Province he won Chienge, and was getting almost equal votes to Lungu in places like Isoka in Muchinga Province.

In short, Zambians generally rejected voting on tribal lines because they were convinced that they were voting for a better alternative that would manage matters better than what they had at that time.

REMEMBERING KENNETH KAUNDA: ZAMBIA’S FOUNDING FATHER AND STATESMAN

Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first president and a towering figure in African politics, left an indelible mark on his nation and the continent as a whole. Born on April 28, 1924, in Chinsali, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), Kaunda’s journey from teacher to liberation leader to statesman reflects the tumultuous yet inspiring narrative of Africa’s struggle for independence and self-determination.

Kaunda’s upbringing was modest, shaped by the rural landscape of colonial Zambia. His early experiences instilled in him a deep sense of justice and a commitment to social change. After completing his education, including teacher training, he embarked on a career in education, where he witnessed firsthand the injustices and inequalities perpetuated by colonial rule.

Kaunda’s political awakening coincided with the rise of nationalist movements across Africa. Inspired by leaders like Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, he became increasingly involved in the struggle for independence. In 1958, he founded the Zambian African National Congress (ZANC), which later evolved into the United National Independence Party (UNIP), the principal vehicle for Zambia’s liberation movement.

Under Kaunda’s leadership, UNIP emerged as the vanguard of Zambia’s independence struggle. His commitment to nonviolent resistance and inclusive politics garnered widespread support, both domestically and internationally. Despite facing repression and imprisonment by colonial authorities, Kaunda remained steadfast in his pursuit of freedom and self-rule.

On October 24, 1964, Zambia gained independence from British colonial rule, with Kaunda at the helm as its first president. His presidency was characterized by a vision of social justice, economic development, and regional cooperation. Kaunda’s policies focused on nation-building, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, laying the foundations for Zambia’s future progress.

Kaunda was a staunch advocate of Pan-Africanism and played a pivotal role in continental affairs. He supported liberation movements across Southern Africa, offering refuge and assistance to freedom fighters from neighboring countries. As a respected statesman, he engaged in diplomacy to resolve regional conflicts and promote peace and stability.

Kenneth Kaunda’s legacy extends far beyond Zambia’s borders. He embodied the ideals of African unity, self-determination, and solidarity. His leadership inspired generations of Africans to strive for a better future and to confront the challenges of nation-building and development with courage and resilience.

In his later years, Kaunda remained active in public life, advocating for HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, as well as peace and reconciliation efforts. His passing on June 17, 2021, marked the end of an era, but his legacy continues to resonate across Africa and the world.

Kenneth Kaunda’s life and legacy are a testament to the power of conviction, courage, and perseverance in the face of adversity. As Zambia and Africa commemorate his contributions, his vision of a united, prosperous, and peaceful continent remains a guiding light for future generations. Kenneth Kaunda will forever be remembered as a founding father, statesman, and champion of African liberation and progress.

HAPPY KK DAY.

“KK is weeping in his grave” – EDGAR LUNGU

….Former President ECL delivers a special address on the Centenary celebration of Zambias founding father Dr Kenneth David Kaunda….

The founding father of Zambia Dr. Kenneth Kaunda must be weeping in his grave when he sees how most Zambians living in abject poverty said the sixth President H.E Edgar Lungu.

In a live national address aired on Dr. Kaunda´s centenary, President Lungu said the first Presidents anguish over Zambia´s poverty predicament is compounded by the wanton rising abuse of human rights and deteriorating rule of law.

“Dr. Kaunda is weeping from his grave today when he sees the country he helped found face abject poverty and wanton abuse of human rights,” said Dr. Lungu.

The former President reminded Zambians that the history of the southern African nation would be ´incomplete´ without the mention of Dr. Kaunda, his contribution to job and national wealth creation and uniting Zambia which has more than 70 tribes.

“He united the 73 tribes of Zambia and taught us that Zambia was just one nation through his doctrine of ´One Zambia one Nation,´” President Lungu said.

Dr. Lungu added that Kaunda, “taught us that we can build our own national wealth through ZCCM and INDECO, this remains undisputed to date.”

The sixth President also lauded Dr. Kaunda for cutting short his term of office in 1991 when a clarion call for the return to multi-party democracy reached a crescendo to avoid conflict.

President Lungu said on a geopolitical front, “Dr Kaunda did not shy away from speaking against apartheid in South Africa, oppression in Namibia, Angola, Mozambique, and the rest of Africa and all the way to Palestine.”
.
President Lungu also beseeched Zambians to emulate “the legacy of Kaunda and see how we can do better than he did.”

Dr. Lungu bemoaned the continued rise in the cost of the staple mealie meal and fuel which he said is pushing Zambians into destitution daily.

Dr Kaunda, born at Lubwa Mission in Chinsali on 28th April 1924, northern Zambia, died 17th June 2021 aged 97 would have turned 100 years this week.

He ruled Zambia from 1964 to 1991 when Zambia was largely a one-party democratic state under UNIP before multi-party democracy returned via MMD

THE LOZI AND BEMBAS ARE COUSINS FROM KATANGA REGION OF THE LUBA-LUNDA KINGDOM

THE LOZI AND BEMBAS ARE COUSINS FROM KATANGA REGION OF THE LUBA-LUNDA KINGDOM
==================
The first monarchs of the Luyi people, who were the ancestors of the Lozi peoples present today in Barotseland, were women who led the Luyi when they first arrived on the Bulozi flood plain after a staged migration from the Lunda-Luba empire of the Katanga region in present day Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The earliest known of these queens is remembered by the name of Mwambwa who bore a daughter called Mbuyu-wa-mwambwa. This means ‘Mbuyu of Mwambwa’ shortened to Mbuwamwambwa.

It is from these two queens under whose leadership the Luyi are said to have settled in Kalabo district that the line of kingship evident up to today can be traced.

During the reign of Mbuyu, one of her sons, Mboo was selected to be the first male monarch and from that time forwards, only males have occupied the Kingship.

The dates of the reigns of the various kings are vague up to the time of Lewanika.

Here is a list of Litungas and other senior royal positions in chronological order starting with the first.

1. Mboo – also: Muyunda Mwanasilundu – Son to Mbuywamwambwa – Mboo may have been a nickname added after his overdue birth (Mwanasilundu – literally a child who came late).

2. Inyambo – older brother to Mboo; son to Mbuywamwambwa.

3. Yeta I – son to Mwambwa; uncle to Mboo and Inyambo; brother to Mbuywamwambwa.

4. Ngalama – nephew to Yeta I; son to Prince Ingalamwa, said to have been adopted by Litunga Inyambo.

5. Yeta Nalute – son to Ngalama.
Ngombala – son to Ngalama.

6. Yubya – grandson to Ngombala, son to Prince Mbanga, Mulena wa Nalolo.

7. Mwanawina I – brother to Yubya; son to Prince Mbanga, Mulena wa Nalolo.

8. Mwananyanda – son to Mwanawina I

9. Mulambwa – known to Livingstone as Santulu – son to Mwanawina I: c1780-c1830 – dates uncertain.

10. Silumulume – son to Mulambwa – ruler of the north – Namuso: dates uncertain.

11. Mubukwanu – son to Mulambwa – ruler of the south – Lwambi: possibly 1830-1838, much of this rule in exile.

Then the Makololo (Kololos) took over and ruled from 1830 to 1864.

12. Sebetwane: 1839 till his death on 7th July 1851.

13. Mamochisane – daughter to Sebetwane: 1851-2.

14. Sekeletu – son to Sebetwane 1852-1864.

15. Mamili – possibly uncle to Sekeletu; possibly brother to Sebetwane: 1863.

16. Mbololo – brother to Sebetwane 1864-1864.

17. Sipopa – son to Sibeso, grandson to Mulambwa – (formerly Lutangu): 1864-1876

18. Mowa Mamili (Regent): 1876

19. Mwanawina II – son to Mubukwanu: 1876-1878

20. Lubosi – grandson to Mulambwa; son to Prince Litia: (first period of rule) 1878-1884

21. Tatila Akufuna – son to Prince Imbua, grandson to Mulambwa: 1884-1885

22. Lubosi (second period of rule) – became known as Lewanika ‘the uniter’: 1885-1916

23. Litia – became Yeta III – son to Lewanika: 1916-1945 (June)

24. Imwiko – son to Lewanika 1945-1948 (June)

25. Mwanawina III – son to Lewanika: 1948-1968

26. Mbikusita – son to Lewanika: 1968 (15th Dec)-1977

27. Ilute – also known as Yeta IV – son to Yeta III: 1977-2000

28. Lubosi Imwiko II – son to Imwiko I: 2000 (October) – presently (in April 2024) still reigning.

Apart from the Sebitwane raiders (1830-1864), the rest are cousins to Mwene Lubemba.

The reunification of the Lozi and Bemba cousins that was proclaimed last weekend in Mongu has strong historical origins. Let all well-meaning Zambians embrace it wholeheartedly.

Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s Legacy: A Champion Against Tribalism

Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s Legacy: A Champion Against Tribalism.

Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, the founding father and first president of Zambia, was a staunch advocate for unity, inclusivity, and the rejection of tribalism in politics and society. Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated a firm commitment to upholding these principles, even in the face of divisive rhetoric and political turmoil.

One notable instance of Dr. Kaunda’s resolute stance against tribalism occurred during his presidency when Foreign Affairs Minister Wilson Chakulya made derogatory remarks about tribal affiliations in Zambian newspapers. Chakulya’s statement, “Times of Zambia is a Tonga newspaper and Daily Mail is a Ngoni newspaper,” was met with swift action from Kaunda, who did not hesitate to dismiss him from his position. This decisive response sent a clear message that tribalism had no place in Zambian governance under Kaunda’s leadership. Similarly, in the 1980s, Minister Ludwig Sondashi faced consequences for making tribal remarks, receiving a four-week suspension from his duties. These incidents highlight Dr.Kaunda’s unwavering commitment to maintaining discipline and promoting unity among Zambians, regardless of their tribal backgrounds.

Dr. Kaunda’s dedication to national unity was further exemplified during a pivotal moment in Zambian history in 1968. Following intense political conflict heavily drawing on tribal lines at the UNIP’s National Council conference in Lusaka, Kaunda resigned as President in disgust and disappointment. However, after hours of deliberation and persuasion from key figures in Zambian society, including top military commanders and religious leaders, Dr. Kaunda rescinded his resignation the following morning. His decision to prioritize the interests of the nation over personal grievances demonstrated his statesmanship and commitment to preserving Zambia’s unity and stability. In the face of immense pressure and internal strife within his party, Dr. Kaunda remained steadfast in his resolve to uphold national unity and cohesion even at the expense of his Presidency.

Dr. Kaunda’s legacy as a champion against tribalism continues to resonate in Zambia and serves as a reminder of the importance of leadership that places the interests of the country above personal or tribal affiliations. To this day, The 1968 UNIP National Council convention at the Chilenje Hall, serves as a poignant reminder of Dr. Kaunda’s principles and leadership style. His principled stance against divisive rhetoric and actions set a standard for future leaders to follow, emphasizing the value of unity and inclusivity in nation-building.

As Zambia continues its journey towards progress and development, it is imperative to uphold Dr. Kaunda’s vision of a united and harmonious society, free from the scourge of tribalism. By embracing diversity and promoting dialogue and understanding among all Zambians, we honor the legacy of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and build a brighter future for generations to come.

It’s my earnest prayer that a day will come when Bo Nasilele will stand as a Member of Parliament and represent Mpika Central, Ba Banda in Solwezi Central, Mwanta Ntambu in Sinazongwe, Ba Chisanga in Chipangali, Mba Mweemba in Mpongwe ,etc as a true reflect of One Zambia, One Nation.

May the Legacy and dream of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda live on through us!

US to ‘rush’ Patriot missiles to Ukraine as part of fresh $6bn aid package

0

The Pentagon says it will “rush” Patriot air defence missiles and artillery ammunition to Ukraine as part of its new military aid package.

However Patriot systems for launching the missiles will not be sent, Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Patriots were “urgently” needed to face a growing Russian air threat and “can and should save lives right now”.

On Saturday, Ukraine said Russia had carried out another massive air attack.

Authorities in Kharkiv said a hospital was damaged. Energy facilities in three regions were attacked, Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.

Russia attacked with cruise missiles, S-300 surface-to-air missiles and Iskander ballistic missiles, Ukraine said, adding that 21 were downed using aircraft, air defence systems and jamming.

Ukraine claimed to have hit two Russian oil refineries across the border. Footage from one in the Russian region of Krasnodar appeared to have caused a large explosion, though local authorities denied significant damage.

Russian authorities said on Saturday they had shot down some 68 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory.

Speaking on Friday, Mr Austin told a news conference that the US was committing to its largest security assistance package to date and would “move immediately” to get the supplies to Ukraine.

The US was using $6bn (£4.8bn) for this purpose, he said. A source confirmed to the BBC that the $6bn was part of a $60bn aid package signed into law by US President Joe Biden on Wednesday, which also includes $1bn in more immediate aid.

The assistance would include air defence munitions, counter-drone systems and artillery ammunition but not Patriot missile systems.

“It’s not just Patriots that they [the Ukrainians] need, they need other types of systems and interceptors as well,” Mr Austin said. “I would caution us all in terms of making Patriot the silver bullet.”

Mr Austin added that he was confident that more of the missile systems would be made available for Kyiv soon. Conversations were ongoing with European partners, he said, to deliver additional capabilities.

The Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Brown, said the assistance should eliminate the Ukrainians’ need to ration shells on the frontline.

Some of the latest funding would also go to building up Ukraine’s own defence industry, so that it can start manufacturing more of the ammunition it desperately needs.

Mr Austin said Russia had already increased domestic production of artillery ammunition and other weapons – as well as being propped up by supplies from Iran and North Korea.

“Understand what’s at stake for Ukraine, for Europe, and for the United States,” he said. “If Putin prevails in Ukraine – Europe would face a security threat it hasn’t seen in a lifetime. Russia will not stop in Ukraine.”

Asked whether the US aid would protect Ukrainian forces, Mr Austin said that the commitment was “material, real, and substantial” although “not instantaneous”.

“It’s going to take some time to get it in there and distribute. The Ukrainians were able to hold – with this capability, they can do a lot better.”

The defence secretary’s words came as Ukraine warned on Friday that Russia was ramping up attacks on its railways.

A Ukrainian security source told the AFP news agency that Moscow wanted to damage Ukrainian railway infrastructure to “paralyse deliveries and movement of military cargo”.

Ukraine only has a handful of Patriots to complement other Western missile defence systems and existing stocks of Soviet-era surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), such as the S-300.

The Patriots are the most capable and expensive air defence systems that Ukraine has. Each Patriot battery costs around $1bn (£800m), and each missile costs nearly $4m.

Germany has already promised an extra Patriot system – and its defence and foreign ministers appealed to their European counterparts earlier this month to respond urgently.

Greece has stocks of Patriots and S-300s but said none could be spared.

“We explained why we cannot do it,” Greek Prime Minister Kyrios Mitsotakis told Skai TV. His said his country’s air defences were “critical systems for the protection of Greek air space”.

According to reports, Spain will supply some Patriot missiles but not a full system.

Recent months have seen Kyiv step up its calls for Western assistance as its stocks of ammunition are depleted and Russia makes steady gains.

Ukrainian officials have blamed delays in military aid from the US and other Western allies for the loss of lives and territory. BBC News

Liverpool and Feyaenoord reach agreement on £9.4m Slot deal

0

Arne Slot is on the verge of becoming Liverpool‘s next manager, with a compensation deal worth up to £9.4m agreed with Feyenoord.

The Dutchman is set to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who announced his departure from Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Liverpool will now move forward to finalize a contract with the 45-year-old before officially appointing him.

The Reds have agreed to pay Feyenoord £7.7m (9m euros) plus a potential £1.7m (2m euros) in add-ons.

Slot guided Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, and this season they have secured the Dutch Cup and are poised to finish second in their league.

His attacking style, personality, and ability to develop players are believed to be key factors in Liverpool’s decision to choose him as their new manager.

Slot took over as Feyenoord manager in 2021 and expressed his interest in managing in the Premier League when linked with Tottenham in 2023.

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who recently led Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title, was also considered for the role at Anfield. However, the 42-year-old Spaniard announced in March that he would remain with Leverkusen for the time being.

Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim was another reported contender to replace Klopp, who has been in charge of Liverpool since October 2015.

Klopp, who was not involved in the recruitment process for his successor, praised Slot’s team’s approach to the game in a news conference on Friday.

“I like the way his team play football. All the things I hear about him as a guy say he’s a good guy,” Klopp said.

“I like that a lot – good guy, good coach and looking forward for the club if he is the solution. I’m more than happy, it sounds all really good.”

Asked about the job Slot would be taking on if appointed, Klopp added: “Best job in the world, best club in the world. Now it looks like [Slot is] helped by [Liverpool] not finishing on a high so there’s space for improvement.”

Putin didn’t order Navalny’s killing – US intel suggests

0

The Wall Street Journal’s report has it that on Saturday, U.S. intelligence agencies have determined that it’s unlikely Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the killing of opposition politician Alexei Navalny at an Arctic prison camp in February.

Navalny, aged 47 at the time of his death, was known as Putin’s most vocal domestic critic. Despite being labeled as extremists by the authorities, his allies have accused Putin of orchestrating his murder and pledged to provide evidence to support their claim.

The Kremlin has consistently denied any state involvement. Last month, Putin described Navalny’s death as “sad” and stated he had been willing to exchange the jailed politician with the West, on the condition that Navalny never returned to Russia. Navalny’s allies claim negotiations toward such an exchange were in progress.

The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, stated that U.S. intelligence agencies had concluded that Putin probably did not order Navalny’s killing in February.

However, Washington has not absolved Putin of overall responsibility for Navalny’s death, given that the opposition politician had been a target of Russian authorities for years, was imprisoned on charges deemed politically motivated by the West, and had been poisoned with a nerve agent in 2020.

The Kremlin has repeatedly denied any state involvement in the 2020 poisoning incident.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday he had seen the Journal’s report, which he said contained “empty speculation”.

“I’ve seen the material, I wouldn’t say it’s high quality material that deserves attention,” Peskov told reporters when asked about the matter.

Reuters could not independently verify the Journal report, which cited sources as saying the finding had been “broadly accepted within the intelligence community and shared by several agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the State Department’s intelligence unit.”

According to the paper’s sources, the U.S. assessment drew upon a variety of information, including classified intelligence, and an examination of public events, such as the timing of Navalny’s death coinciding with Putin’s re-election in March.

Leonid Volkov, a senior aide to Navalny, dismissed the U.S. findings as naive and ridiculous, as reported by the paper.

UPND IS SCARED OF UKA – SIKOTA

… that’s why they have created a pattern of trying to frustrate the registration process.

LUSAKA, FRIDAY, APRIL 26, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The UPND Government is very scared of the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA), and that’s why they have created patterns of trying to frustrate the registration process, says Sakwiba Sikota, the Alliance chairman.

Mr. Sikota has told Smart Eagles in an interview that UKA is here to stay because it is embedded in the hearts of the majority of Zambians.

He said there is no difference between the UPND alliance and UNITED KWACHA ALLUANCE (UKA) and wondered why the Government is trying to set a different set of rules when it comes to UNITED KWACHA ALLIANCE (UKA) adding that insinuations that the ruling party is upholding the rule of law are pure lies.

“UNITED KWACHA ALLIANCE is not an illegal entity unless they say that the UPND alliance is also an illegal entity. There is no difference between the UPND alliance and UNITED KWACHA ALLUANCE, no difference at all and the rule of law in our constitution says there must be no discrimination, so why should they discriminate against UNITED KWACHA ALLIANCE and give the UPND alliance a different set of rules, that shows that all these claims they have been making that the UPND is following the rule of law is a total lie,” Mr. Sikota said.
“Concerning the issue of registration, there are two entities that are in the process of registration, there is UNITED KWACHA ALLIANCE as an umbrella of various political parties and there is also the application for UKA as a political party, alternatively UKANI or Arise,” he said.

” About the political party, they are so afraid of us that they are resorting without giving reasons, saying you can’t register it, we are waiting for them to give reasons why they said they can’t register UKA as a political party. The Societies ACT provides that once, they have given us those reasons we can appeal to the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, but because they have no proper reasons and because they are so afraid of UKA they have not answered our letter and it has been over a month now,” Said Mr. Sikota.

Mr. Sikota who is also a renowned Lusaka lawyer and United Liberal Party President said the registration of UKA is a straightforward issue and challenged the government to come out clean by allowing the process to go on smoothly.

Nepotism at ZESCO is a Clear Indication of Ethical Decay in Our County- Daimone Siulapwa

MAPANI IS CORRUPT AND NOW NEPOTISTIC

Nepotism at ZESCO is a Clear Indication of Ethical Decay in Our County

By Daimone Siulapwa

The recent exposé of nepotism within ZESCO, with Managing Director Victor Mapani promoting his daughter, Beenzu Mapani, to a senior position, has ignited outrage and exposed a culture of entitlement and cronyism at the heart of our public institutions.

However, a closer examination of the situation reveals a disturbing pattern of abuse of power and ethical decay that cannot be ignored.

Victor Mapani assumed the role of ZESCO Managing Director on December 3rd, 2021, stepping into a position of immense responsibility charged with powering the nation.

Meanwhile, Beenzu Mapani was pursuing her legal career at John Kaite Legal Practitioners, a private law firm, far removed from the realm of public utilities.

Yet, within months of assuming office, Mapani made a brazen move to employ his daughter within the organization in 2022, without regard for any moral or ethical principles.

The argument that Beenzu Mapani may be qualified for the position is a hollow justification in the face of such blatant nepotism.

If Victor Mapani truly wished to support his daughter’s career aspirations, he could have facilitated her employment with other companies where his colleagues could have offered assistance without compromising the integrity of a public institution like ZESCO.

Instead, by leveraging his position of power to benefit his own family, Mapani has reinforced the perception of untouchable impunity among the ruling elite and he is clearly guilty of abuse of office.

It is clear that he wields an alarming amount of influence within ZESCO, creating a toxic environment where personal connections and loyalty to the MD take precedence over professionalism and merit, rendering the HR unit defunct and cosmetic.

This flagrant display of nepotism not only undermines the credibility of ZESCO but also erodes public trust in our governance structures.

It sends a chilling message to the hardworking citizens of Zambia: that no matter how qualified or competent they may be, success in our society is ultimately determined by who you know, not what you know.

Furthermore, it exposes a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a select few, where individuals like Victor Mapani operate with impunity, shielded from accountability by their positions of authority.

Such unchecked power breeds corruption and fosters a culture of entitlement, where those in positions of influence believe themselves to be above the law.

The nepotistic promotion of Beenzu Mapani at ZESCO is not just a symptom of ethical decay within one organization; it is a symptom of a broader systemic problem that permeates our society.

It is a wake-up call for all citizens to demand transparency, accountability, and integrity from our leaders and institutions.

The nepotism scandal unfolding at ZESCO serves as a good reminder of the urgent need for systemic reform and a renewed commitment to the principles of meritocracy and fairness.

It is time to hold those in positions of power accountable for their actions and to ensure that public institutions serve the interests of all citizens, not just a select few.

Anything less would be a betrayal of the democratic ideals upon which our nation was founded.

GOVERNMENT SHOULD STOP MOCKING ZAMBIANS – KALABA

… says a statement attributed to the Community Development Minister Doreen Mwamba asking Zambians to stop stressing Government for help makes sad reading.

Lusaka, Friday, April, 26, 2024 [Smart Eagles]

Citizens First President Harry Kalaba says it is disappointing that instead of alleviating poverty, the UPND Government has continued to mock Zambians.

Mr. Kalaba said the statement attributed to Community Development Minister Doreen Mwamba in one of the Daily Newspapers where she urged jobless and vulnerable citizens to start family planning because they are stressing government for help, makes a sad reading.

He said it is not the duty of the government to determine how many children a couple can have but their role is to ensure that they create a conducive environment for citizens to thrive.

” This is strange, how do they have the courage to address citizens like that? Are they going to start going house to house to check if couples are taking family planning. This is mockery of the highest level,” Mr. Kalaba said.

” The UPND government should be serious for once and stop taking people for granted. They were voted on the premise that they will fix the country and improve the lives of people but from the look of things President Hichilema has lamentably failed,” he said.

The former Foreign Affairs Minister said Zambians should now look to the United Kwacha Alliance for redemption because it is the only movement with the leadership capacity to sort out the mess brought about by the UPND Government.

He said the UPND should be reminded that there popularity has diminished and they are on there way out of Government in 2026.

” Zambians should remain resolute and ensure they kick out UPND in 2026, they have lamentably failed and have now resorted to mocking citizens instead of fulfilling their campaign promises made prior to the 2021 elections,” Mr. Kalaba said.

Is Zambia ready for home bred millionaires?…the curious case of Mulenga Mikalile
Amb. Anthony Mukwita

26.04.24

As a published author, I am always looking out for a story with a good plot—a feel good story about an individual or organisation that has performed exceptionally well in their chosen fields.

It is for this reason that when brother James Ndambo came on the scene and brought Choma to a standstill about two years ago doing good deeds, I was first among equals to unpack Mr Ndambo to the vast circle of Zambians that new not the man.

This is because from my previous encounter, I knew Mr Ndambo as a self-made millionaire that created his own business empire starting humbly under a harsh environment in Zambia, moving to South Africa, Dubai, Congo, and Namibia.

DOES ZAMBIA LOVE SUCCESS?

In every corner, Ndambo´s name was spoken in harsh tones of respect and reverence, but unfortunately, success and Zambia is like oil and water—they don’t mix.

Before we knew it, Ndambo´s philanthropic work was nipped in the bud, they ran him out of town and for good measure also targeted his business in Walvis Bay, Namibia he built from scratch and shut it down.

No reasons given but clearly someone in government was threatened by the huge shadow of James Ndambo.

I don’t think Mr Ndambo is coming back to Zambia any time soon, he´s gone, he has also taken away all his philanthropic works that shall now benefit people in Congo and Dubai.

ENTER STEPHEN MULENGA MIKALILE AFTER JAMES NDAMBO

Fast-forward to this week, the Zambian media space has been flooded with stories of youthful entrepreneur Mulenga Mikalile of the CEO and brains behind Mika Meats founded in 2020.

The tongue wagging started following a startling Auditor General´s report raised a red flag after a ´special audit´ regarding a $400 million debt Mikalile´s company is owed by the government of Zambia.

Allegations are that the product he supplied Boma could either be defective or overpriced, signalling a red flag that they are preparing to withhold his hard-earned money, I was surprised!

Was this the Ndambo story unfolding all over again where the man had to be probed by ACC over charity works?

I don’t how the AG´s office works, I also don’t supply government anything so I can’t competently argue about the on-going probe.
My curious mind told me to hit the data sites and found nothing out of place on Mikalile´s file, a poster child of Zambian business who turns only 44 this year but has a business portfolio that qualifies him to supply goods worth $400 million in a depressed economy like ours so, as you can understand I was impressed, and I am not easily impressed.

MIKALILE´S EMPIRE LOCAL AND ABROAD

As facts stand, Mikalile has Mika offices in Dubai and Tanzania where he has Tanzania Mika Meats, Guang Zho, China etc (in picture) where he does supply business across continents with full time staff in all the international offices.

In Zambia he has full time staff complement of 2000 workers doing full time work and more on short external contracts, he could employ more as he expands, if he is allowed to expand in what now seems like a ´hostile´ environment with the AG standing over his shoulders.

Mika has 66 beef shops around Zambia and abattoirs, as he works on a massive fish farming project to ease food shortages at cheap prices.
When you talk to him, he is an affable lad that always prefixes you with ´Mr´ or ´Sir´ as he explains himself and tells his ´humble beginnings story´ that started in the village, going to school between 1991 and 2001 at Lubushi catholic school.

Mikalile further pursued higher studies at UNZA where he took a shot at computer sciences before going full throttle in business to which he took to like a duck to water, literally.

In the streets he is known for his collection of fancy cars, cabriolet´s Maybach´s etc but few are aware of his philanthropy work through the church ofcourse besides the 2000 Zambians he employs full time.

When I looked at this portfolio, I said to myself as sucker for a good human interest inspirational story, ´is this the guy you want to take out your economy or is this the guy you want to prop up so that instead of 2000 people, he can employ 10,000?´

My answer is like in the United Sates where people like Donald Trump where in the past lent money by banks to stay afloat, you keep Mika alive so that he can employ more people.

In future when a mining company is struggling, make him a partner don’t pawn mines to foreigners, when you want to build a road, get him on a PPP, don’t get foreigners.

My missive here is Zambia needs more James Ndambo´s and Stephen Mikalile to help in economic growth and job creation.

I don’t have a dog in this fight as author, former Editor in chief and diplomat except that if a Zambian is doing well, reward them instead of flogging them but I guess only time and investigations will tell.

Let us celebrate wealth and success instead of sharing poverty. I love success stories.

ILLEGALITIES SURROUNDING THE ARREST OF ‘WHY ME’

ILLEGALITIES SURROUNDING THE ARREST OF ‘WHY ME’.

MEDIA STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

The Movement for Promoting National Values and Principles wish to add it’s voice on the recent arrest of Mr. Francis Kapwepwe commonly known as ‘Why Me’.

Mr. ‘Why Me’ is known as a Social Media vlogger who is sarcastic in nature and circulates unwholesome, derogatory and malicious videos. The young man is based in Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt and is on record to have been arrested, cautioned and detained several times on similar charges.

It is irrefutable and undeniable that the Zambia Police are acting in tandem with the Cyber Crime Act No. 65 of 2021 and that Mr. Kapwepwe has proved to be one of the notorious Social Media abuser.

As an Organization, we are extremely concerned with the depletion of Moral Values in the Country and would not wish seeing the trend continuing. However we are concerned by the conduct of the Zambia Police in their execution of duties.

We have concerns about the arrest of Mr. Francis Kapwepwe as outlined below;-

* Why is the Zambia Police not adhering to the Law by allowing suspects to be tried within the area of jurisdiction where the perceived offenses occurs?

* Why should the complainants in cases of tribal talks always emanate from a particular region of our Country?

* Why should suspects of similar charges always be taken before the same Magistrate?

* Why is it that everyone being accused of Cyber Crime is being associated to be an affiliate of former Head of State?

* Why was Mr. Francis Kapwepwe kept in detention for several days without being officially charged at Kabwata Police Station?

* Why do the Zambia Police effect arrests and begin investigating while keeping the suspect in custody?

* Why is it that only people from a particular region (Northern, Muchinga, Luapula and Eastern Provinces) are being arrested all the time?

* Why are we not seeing people from the Zambezi region being investigated, arrested and convicted as well?

* Could this be said to be selective justice?

OUR OBSERVATIONS.

According to the Law, whenever it is perceived that the Law is violated abrogated, those aggrieved are obligated reporting the case to the nearest Police Station. Only the Police who operate within the area of jurisdiction are mandated handling the matter.

Except in cases involving Gender Based Violence, the victim can choose reporting the matter anywhere. It is unfair and illegal transporting suspects to Police Stations far from the areas where the purpoted offense took place.

Moreover, it is inconsiderate and inhumane taking a suspect far from his relatives who should be attending to his material needs. We all deserve moral support of people who love us.

We wish to admonish the New Dawn Administration to be fair and stop abusing the Law with impunity. At least the Zambia Police must desist from being used in paying retribution and vengeance against others. Vindictiveness would not take us anywhere.

UNITED PARTY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PRESIDENTIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMME

0

UNITED PARTY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PRESIDENTIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMME
PRESS STATEMENT BY THE DIRECTOR GENERAL – MEDIA

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has faithfully adhered to its guiding principles and vision for Zambia as outlined in the summary manifesto 2021-2026. The manifesto describes the character and ideology of UPND as guided by a people-centered and pro-poor development strategy that guarantees the availability of basic needs of all the people of Zambia. Therefore, the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) of the UPND is the overarching framework that aims to bring together interventions in the various sectors of the economy to create more and better-quality jobs to eliminate poverty. As such, the main focus of the UPND is to create more shared wealth than more tycoons.

However, some critics of the UPND have alleged that the Party pursues capitalist principles and cares less about the ordinary citizens of Zambia especially the poor. Some of such critics cite what they term as concentration on pleasing big capital interests such as investors in the mining sector with some branding President Hakainde Hichilema as championing the cause of foreigners. The UPND manifesto dispels such allegations effectively.

Moreover, an objective review of the performance of President Hichilema and the New Dawn government yields a different reality.

Let us begin with the question whether the UPND is pro-poor or not. Examples are many to demonstrate that President Hichilema runs a pro-poor government. The New Dawn government has not just maintained the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) programme but has taken it to a higher level. The truth is that the UPND has increased the budget allocation to SCT from K2.3 billion in 2021 to K3.7 billion in 2023. As such 1.3 million households benefit from SCT hence impacting 5.7 million vulnerable people.

It should be underscored with haste that the UPND has not just increased the number of beneficiaries but the amount that they get. Households without a person with disabilities who used to get K150 per month now get K200 whereas those with a person with disabilities who used to get K300 per month now get K400. It should be admitted that the amounts remain low. But there is no doubt about the commitment of the UPND government to further increase not only the number of beneficiaries but the amounts as well as the economy improves.

The reality that this was one of the first actions the UPND took after forming government underscores the urgency the Party attaches to ensuring better care of the poor and vulnerable in our society. Moreover, the gesture speaks volumes about what the UPND would do should more funds be available for such programmes. For sure, President Hichilema and his team would ensure that majority of our poor and vulnerable citizens are supported by giving them an income to help them affords their essential needs.

One does not need to be a rocket scientist to understand why President Hichilema has set his priority as growing the economy. Indeed, a weak economy cannot deliver the essential needs of the citizens. Moreover, when the economy is weak, job creation in the private sector tends to be low and companies fail to pay workers better salaries.

Furthermore, when the economy is small and weak, revenue collection through taxes tends to be not enough thereby undermining the integrity of the national budget. All this begs the question regarding how we can grow our economy.

One way to grow the national economy is to attract more foreign and local investment in various productive sectors. The investment should not just be capital but more importantly technology transfer. As such, Zambia needs to attract massive investment in agriculture, mining, energy, tourism, and other sectors with potential not only to create a lot of wealth but to remunerate the Zambian workers well. Zambia also needs more capital for loans to small and medium entrepreneurs especially those involved in production of goods.

This explains why President Hichilema has kept fine tuning his focus on attracting investment not only in the mining sector but all the sectors bearing in mind that all the sectors have potential to contribute more to Zambia’s economic recovery.

Against this background, it is absurd to accuse President Hichilema of paying more attention to foreigners. How can one accuse a fisherman of liking fishing as if it is done for fun. A fisherman risks his life to get on the usually rough waters in the night to catch fish so that he can bring some money home and feed his family. Similarly, when President Hichilema spends a lot of time attracting would be investors and engaging bilateral and multilateral institutions to help Zambia with issues such as debt restructuring, it is not because Mr. Hichilema loves to be in the company of such people and institutions but because of his commitment to serve the Zambian voter better through the benefits that a strong economy delivers.

Talking about other examples to demonstrate the commitment of the New Dawn government to pro-poor policies one would not miss free education and increasing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to K30.8 million from a pantry K1.6 million under the Patriotic Front government. These policies and many other initiatives aimed at empowering the citizens are enough testimony about the UPND people-centered development agenda. Of-course, the cost of living has increased not only in Zambia but other countries globally. The main driver of the rise in the cost of living has been the rising cost of production mainly due to increasing fuel and electricity prices. Dealing with this problem points us back to the main issue of improving the economy and dealing with factors such as inflation. But why should Zambians remain hopeful of a better future?

Now that the problem of restructuring our national debt is under way coupled with increased interest in various sectors by both local and foreign investors owing to improved investment climate and policy integrity coupled with restored credit worthiness, Zambia is surely set to record an economic rebound. The continued availability of millions of Kwacha at the local level in terms of CDF alongside the huge investments flowing into the mining sectors such as at Mopani, New Luanshya Mine also called Shaft 28, Konkola Copper Mines and the mining expansions worth millions of dollars mainly in North-Western province, are all part of the seeds of an economic renaissance in Zambia. As such, we should remain hopeful as we each do our best to contribute to Zambia’s economic revival through hard work and prudent stewardship of public funds and assets.

In conclusion, Zambia has the right and competent driver. The vehicle, however, is not in good condition. We need to work together to fix it and once it is improved, we shall see more sustainable economic development for the benefit of majority of our people.

ACTING PRESIDENT MUTALE NALUMANGO REQUESTS IMF’S ASSISTANCE AMIDST SEVERE DROUGHT CRISIS

Acting President, Mutale Nalumango has urged the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to aid the country in dealing with the adverse effects of the drought crisis. In a meeting with IMF Mission Chief for Zambia, Mercedes Martin in Lusaka, Nalumango expressed that Zambia requires around US$900 million to mitigate the crisis. She noted that while there is about 28.3 million Kwacha to support the cause, it may not suffice to sustain the impact of the severe drought.

As per Mrs Nalumango, Zambia has witnessed 84 districts being affected by the drought, with damages being reported continuously. She called for support from the global community in various forms such as safe and clean water, food, health, irrigation, and humanitarian aid for both humans and livestock.

Mrs Nalumango stated that she expects the IMF mission team to assess the crisis and help respond to the humanitarian needs of the people affected. She asserted that the government is committed to cooperating with all stakeholders in society. She acknowledged the need for a better preparation strategy in the future to alleviate crises such as a drought.

Mrs Nalumango appreciated the financial assistance provided by the IMF, emphasizing that Zambia has been facing unpredictable problems, which compromised the country’s plans. She also highlighted the need for a stronger early warning system to prepare for any future natural crises.

IMF Mission Chief for Zambia, Mercedes Martin, expressed deep concern regarding the devastating impact of the drought on the people of Zambia. Ms Martin revealed that the IMF is actively collaborating with bilateral and multilateral partners to explore additional financial resources to support the country.

Emphasizing the urgency of addressing the humanitarian implications of the drought, Ms Martin suggested incorporating it into the revised 2024 budget discussions. She highlighted the distressing fact that this year had witnessed the lowest rainfall in the Southern African region, making Zambia particularly vulnerable to the shocks of climate change.

Reassuringly, Ms Martin affirmed that the drought is only a temporary setback. With enhanced cooperation between the government, stakeholders, and the IMF, she expressed confidence in effectively mitigating its impacts. Furthermore, she underscored the IMF’s optimistic outlook for Zambia’s future, foreseeing stronger prospects for economic growth.

In an effort to mobilize regional assistance, Ms Martin requested a comprehensive report on other countries facing similar challenges. This report will aid in devising a targeted response to address food shortages in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Accompanying Ms Martin was Eric Lautuer, the IMF Resident Representative.

FRA STARTS BUYING WHITE MAIZE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT THROUGH MAIN DEPOTS

FRA STARTS BUYING WHITE MAIZE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT THROUGH MAIN DEPOTS

….payment will be made within the shortest possible time upon processing of documentation

Lusaka…. Friday April 24, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

Government through the Ministry of Agriculture has with immediate effect authorised the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to start buying non-genetically modified grade A white maize from any individual or organisation on the local market.

FRA Executive Director Mwansa Chamatete said any individual or organisation with white maize can deliver the commodity to the nearest FRA Main Holding Depot countrywide and payment will be made within the shortest possible time upon processing of documentation.

Mr Chamatete further said the Agency is buying a 50 kilogramme bag of maize at K330.00 or K6,600.00 per metric tonne.

He notified that all FRA Main Holding Depots countrywide are now open, and ready to receive maize that meets acceptable quality and standards as per law required from interested parties.

‘Following the declaration of the drought situation in Zambia as a national disaster by the Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, various response mechanisms to address the situation have been put in place through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food Reserve Agency (FRA). The Agency is also buying non genetically modified white maize on the Zambia Commodity Exchange (ZAMACE) platform. ZAMACE is an online, transparent market place for the trading of agricultural commodities, certification of storage sites, grading and valuation of stored commodities under warehouse receipts, as well as an enabler for the financial sector to finance warehouse receipts,” he said.

“It is an exclusively mandated entity prescribed to carry out this mandate under the Agricultural Credits Act No. 35 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia. ZAMACE membership is open to individuals or corporate entities looking to participate in the commodities market in Zambia and interested suppliers wishing to transact on this platform are required to follow the set procedure on the platform. The terms and conditions are set by the exchange rules.”

Mr Chamatete indicated that the above response measures are supplementary interventions in addition to the annual crop marketing season which entails the buying of crops from small scale farmers aimed at replenishing the national strategic food reserves to ensure sustained national food security.

Thabo Mbeki vows to rid South Africa’s ANC of ‘rotten apples’

South Africa’s former President Thabo Mbeki has vowed to remove “rotten apples” and “thieves” from the governing African National Congress (ANC) party.

The 81-year-old was on the campaign trail for the ANC for the first time ahead of elections in May.

He made the pledge in front of cheering crowds in Soweto as the party that has governed since the end of white-minority rule in 1994 faces allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

Last week, protesters from Soweto took to a major highway to show their anger about a lack of basic services in the township outside Johannesburg that witnessed widespread civil unrest during apartheid.

The demonstrators blocked a major highway with rubble, burned tyres and pelted stones at motorists to show their anger.

Many South Africans are feeling disillusioned and frustrated with the ANC.

The party that saw Nelson Mandela become the country’s first democratically elected president 30 years ago, with nearly 63% of the vote, faces losing its parliamentary majority.

Mr Mbeki, who served as president from 1999 until 2008, is outspoken on matters of governance – and has not been afraid to openly criticise the ANC and its current leader, President Cyril Ramaphosa.

But dressed in full ANC regalia, he said he felt it was still the party for people, it just needed to be “fixed”.

Addressing the crowds in Xhosa and English, he acknowledged the issues facing the ANC: “Inside the ANC there are rotten apples and thieves.

“Thieves that wear a T-shirt like this,” he said pointing to his own top. “We need to get rid of them so that this party can be one that you know.

“I promise that when I say vote ANC, I promise that we will fix the ANC.”

The ANC’s majority is under threat from the increasing popularity of smaller parties like the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) – popular with young people – and the new uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, which Mr Mbeki’s successor Jacob Zuma is leading.

Mr Zuma was forced to step down as president in 2018 because of corruption allegations. Three years ago, he was sentenced to 15 months in jail for failing to testify at an inquiry into the allegations, though he only served three months on medical grounds.

It has led to divisions and infighting within the ANC.

74-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after she robbed a bank in Ohio at gunpoint

0

A 74-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after she robbed a bank in Ohio at gunpoint.

Ann Mayers, 74, who robbed an Ohio credit union last week, April 19, is a victim of an online scam who may have been trying to solve her financial problems, according to her relatives.

Mayers faces counts of aggravated robbery with a firearm and tampering with evidence in Friday’s robbery in Fairfield Township, north of Cincinnati.

The second charge stems from Mayers’ decision to toss her clothing out the car window while making her way home after the robbery, according to the complaint.

If convicted, Mayers could face up to 15 years in prison.

She remained jailed Wednesday, April 24, on a $100,000 bond pending an initial court appearance, and court records don’t list an attorney for her.

Officers arrested Mayers at her Hamilton home shortly after the robbery, Fairfield police said in a Facebook post. A handgun was found in her car, which police allege she used in the robbery.

Ann Mayers allegedly told investigators with the Fairfield Township Police Department (FTPD) that she was the person who walked into the AurGroup Financial Credit Union Bank and demanded a teller turn over some of the bank’s cash while brandishing a gun, according to a copy of the complaint.

Bodycam footage taken at the time of her arrest shows that it only took Mayers a few seconds to allegedly confess, as she immediately tells the arresting officers: “I did whatever you’re here for.”

The officers then ask Mayers to be more specific, at which time the footage shows her saying: “The robbery.”

74-year-old woman robs bank at gunpoint after losing her life savings to online scammers

According to police, Mayers walked away with $500 from her bank heist.

Authorities later learned that Mayers might have been a scam victim and are looking into the claims. Her relatives told detectives that she had been sending money to an unidentified individual, The Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday.

“In that aspect, some may see her as a ‘victim,'” Sgt. Brandon McCroskey told the newspaper.

“Unfortunately, Ann chose to victimize several other people in the bank by robbing it with a firearm as a remedy for her situation.”

If what her relatives say is true, McCroskey called Mayers’ situation “very sad and unfortunate.”

He said she reportedly spoke with family members about robbing banks in the days leading up to the holdup, but they didn’t take her comments seriously.

Scams against seniors have become increasingly common over the last 10 to 15 years, according to experts. Among them are so-called grandparent scams in which callers claim to be anyone from a victim’s grandchild to a police officer and tell the victim something terrible happened and that their younger relative needs money.

Ariel Henry steps down as Haiti’s prime minister

0

Ariel Henry quit his job as the prime minister of Haiti on Thursday. This means a new government can now be created in the Caribbean country. Haiti has been dealing with a lot of gang violence, which has hurt or killed over 2,500 people from January to March.

Henry sent a letter from Los Angeles on April 24, saying he quit. His office released the letter on the same day as a new council for Haiti’s prime minister and Cabinet was sworn in.

Henry’s other Cabinet members chose the Economy and Finance Minister, Michel Patrick Boisvert, to be the temporary prime minister. It was not clear when the transitional council would choose its own temporary prime minister.

Speaking to a room full of people in the prime minister’s office, Boisvert said that Haiti’s crisis had been going on for too long and that the country was now at a very important decision point. The people in charge of the transitional council supported him, and so did the top police and military leaders in the country.

After talking and arguing for two months. “Boisvert said they found a way to fix the problem. ” “Today is a big day for our country. ”

He said the transitional council is a good solution for Haiti and wished them success. He believes they are determined to do a good job.

After the talks, people clinked their glasses and said “To Haiti” as they drank champagne.

The council was set up on Thursday, more than a month after Caribbean leaders said they would create it at a meeting to deal with Haiti’s worsening crisis. Shots were heard when the new council was being sworn in at the National Palace, causing people to look worried.

The group of nine people, with seven who can vote, is also supposed to help decide the plans for a new government team. It will choose a temporary election group and make a national security council. This needs to happen before the elections can happen.

The council’s term will end in February and cannot be renewed. On January 20, 2026, a new president will be sworn in.

Smith Augustin, a council member who can vote, said it is not clear if the council will keep Boisvert as the temporary prime minister or pick someone else. He said they will talk about it soon. “He said the problem cannot continue. ”

Regine Abraham, who is not allowed to vote on the council, remembered when President Jovenel Moise was killed in July 2021. She said that the violence had a really bad effect.

Abraham said that gangs are in charge of most of Port-au-Prince. Many people in the city had to leave their homes because of violence. Also, over 900 schools in the city had to shut down because of the violence.

“She said the people in Port-au-Prince are basically being controlled and held against their will. ”

Gangs started working together to attack at the beginning of February. 29 in the main city, Port-au-Prince, and nearby areas. They set fire to police stations and hospitals, shot at the main international airport which has been closed since March, and broke into the two largest prisons in Haiti, letting more than 4,000 prisoners escape. Gangs have also cut off access to the largest port in Haiti.

The attack started when Prime Minister Henry was in Kenya for an official visit to ask for a UN-supported police force from East Africa. He still can’t get into Haiti.

Catherine Russell, who works for UNICEF, said earlier this week that Port-au-Prince is almost completely closed off from the air, sea, and land.

The world has asked the council to focus on making Haiti safer because there is a lot of crime there. Even before the attacks started, most of Port-au-Prince was already controlled by gangs. More people died in early 2024 compared to the same time last year, according to a new report from the UN.

“It’s really bad how gangs are getting more active in Port-au-Prince and other areas, and things are getting worse for people’s rights and the crisis is getting worse,” said Maria Isabel Salvador, a special representative from the UN for Haiti, during a meeting with the UN Security Council on Monday.

Dennis Haskins, the new US ambassador, also came to see Boisvert get sworn in on Thursday. He said that what happened on Thursday was a big leap forward for Haiti.

“In difficult times, Haitians can accomplish great things, so we’re here to support them,” Haskins stated. “We might not solve the problem, but we want to be part of helping others find the solution. ”

He said the US government is trying to stop weapons from being sent to Haiti, because they are causing more violence there.

Haskins said it’s clear that a lot of the weapons that arrive here are from the United States and that has a direct effect. “We know it causes problems and makes things unstable. ”

Almost 100,000 people left the capital to find safer places in other cities and towns because of the attacks. Many people lost their homes when gangs set them on fire. Now they live in temporary shelters in Port-au-Prince with very few toilets for many people.

The United Nations Deputy Executive Director for the World Food Program, Carl Skau, said on Thursday that Haiti is facing a crisis in security, politics, and humanitarian issues. This is causing a lot of people in Haiti to not have enough food to eat, around 5 million people, which is about half of the population in Haiti. The UN says that not having enough food to eat can put someone’s life or job in danger.

“The situation is very serious,” Skau told reporters. “A very bad situation in Haiti, with a big effect on people. It’s the worst it’s been since the 2010 earthquake. ”

Rachel Pierre is a 39-year-old mom with four kids who lives in a temporary shelter in the city. She says, “Even though I’m feeling. “

Junta-led Burkina Faso suspends BBC, Voice of America

0

West African country, Burkina Faso has suspended the BBC and Voice of America radio networks from broadcasting for airing a rights report accusing the army of attacks on civilians in its battle against jihadists.

International NGO, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Thursday that soldiers in Burkina Faso’s jihadist-hit north had killed at least 223 villagers, including 56 children, in two revenge attacks on February 25.

The British and US radio stations are the latest international media organisations to be targeted since Captain Ibrahim Traore seized power in the West African country in a September 2022 coup, and also shows how Traore is bent on destroying relations with the West but increasing relations with Russia.

“The programmes of these two international radio networks broadcasting from Ouagadougou have been suspended for a period of two weeks,” the communications authority (CSC) announced late on Thursday.

It said the decision had been taken because BBC Africa and the VOA had aired and also published a report on their digital platforms “accusing the Burkina army of abuses against the civilian population”.

The CSC said the report contained “hasty and biased declarations without tangible proof against the Burkinabe army”.

Burkina Faso has been battling attacks from groups linked to Al-Qaeda and Islamic State since a jihadist insurgency swept in from neighbouring Mali in 2015.

Since 2015, around 20,000 people have been killed in Burkina Faso and around two million have been displaced.

VOA said on Friday it had sought reactions to the HRW report “from several Burkinabe officials” but received no response and intended “to continue to fully and fairly cover activities in the country”.

The CSC said it had “directed” internet service providers to suspend access to the sites and other digital platforms of the BBC, VOA and HRW from Burkinabe territory.

The CSC also said the “approach” of the BBC and VOA “undermines the cardinal principles of information processing in that it constitutes disinformation likely to bring discredit to the Burkinabe army”.

The communications authority urged all other media to refrain from carrying the article, warning that any offenders could face sanctions.

Under Traore, the junta distanced Burkina Faso from France, which ruled the country until 1960.

In September, the junta-led government suspended the print and online operations of French media outlet Jeune Afrique in the country after the publication of two articles about tensions within the military.

In June, it had suspended French TV channel LCI for three months.

In March 2023, it also suspended all broadcasts by the France 24 news channel a few months after also suspending Radio France Internationale (RFI). It accused both public media outlets of having relayed jihadist leaders’ messages.

Hollywood Actress, Sophia Bush has come out as queer, a year after announcing that her short-lived marriage had ended

Hollywood Actress, Sophia Bush has come out as queer, a year after announcing that her short-lived marriage had ended.

The 41-year-old star of “One Tree Hill” has opened up about her love life in an intimate feature-length magazine article.

Writing in Glamour, she described the cold feet she experienced before marrying entrepreneur Grant Hughes in July 2022.

“In April of 2022, I was close to calling off my wedding. Instead of running away, I doubled down on being a model wife,” she wrote.

She admitted that they “threw one of the greatest wedding weekends ever,” but went on to open up about the difficult year that followed.

Bush said she kept trying to tell herself that “relationships are hard” and “marriage takes compromise” but ultimately it was the “heartbreak of the fertility process” that led her to reassess her relationship.

I

She wrote:

“As I lost track of how many examination tables I had lain on alone, I felt something in me seismically shift. Six months into that journey, I think I knew deep down that I absolutely had made a mistake.”

This realization, she said, prompted her to take some time out by accepting a theatrical role in London’s West End.

Then, returning home to LA last summer, Bush grew closer to a group of women who were also going through relationship breakdowns and other issues at home.

Among them was former soccer player Ashlyn Harris, whom Bush said she had known for four years and who was splitting from her wife and former teammate, Ali Krieger.

She described “falling in love” with Harris, adding: “I sort of hate the notion of having to come out in 2024. But I’m deeply aware that we are having this conversation in a year when we’re seeing the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community in modern history.

“There were more than 500 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills proposed in state legislatures in 2023, so for that reason I want to give the act of coming out the respect and honour it deserves. I’ve experienced so much safety, respect, and love in the queer community, as an ally all of my life, that, as I came into myself, I already felt it was my home.”

“I think I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum,” Bush wrote, adding. “Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can’t say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great.”

Trump has “no standing declassification order” involving materials -Former official

In the court case about Donald Trump’s private papers, lawyers said that a past official from his administration told investigators that Trump, as president, was not allowed to make the documents he had public.

The papers are from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s response to a request from Trump’s lawyers. They have information from when the prosecutors talked to a person who used to work for the government. The official didn’t want to be recorded during the interview because it was too risky in the Trump administration, as per FBI notes.

The FBI notes, which are called a 302, have some parts blacked out so we can’t see the name of the person they used to work for. Their name is Person 16, and some pages are completely covered in black.

The former government worker who had access to see Trump and was in the Oval Office every day, told lawyers that there was no official rule to keep things secret, and they were never told about it while working at the White House.

In 2022, the FBI looked through Trump’s Mar-a-Lago house and found more than 100 hidden papers. Trump’s team said that when he was president, he made a rule that any papers brought from the Oval Office to his house were no longer secret.

Trump is being accused of breaking the law by keeping secret government papers when he was no longer at the White House. He was accused of committing 37 different crimes. The papers had hidden information about US nuclear weapons and protection. Trump did not want to return them to the government, so he tried to keep them. He said he didn’t do the things people said he did.

The new court papers don’t say anything different from what the special investigator has already stated, but they give us a look at some of the proof that Smith will present in the trial. This proof includes specific statements from people who are employed at the Trump White House.

In late October or early November of 2021, almost a year before police searched Mar-a-Lago, a former official asked Trump to give back government documents, according to the court documents.

“Return everything you have,” said the former official to Trump, according to the 302.

The ex-official said they tried to get many people close to Trump, even his kids, to tell him, “There are problems with the boxes. ” They are owned by the government. Ask your dad to return them. “It’s not worth the frustration. ”

In late November 2021, the former official said the warnings became more serious when talking to investigators. The person who used to work for the government said to Trump, who was wearing clothes for playing golf, “Give back everything you have. ” “Don’t give them a reason to charge you, because they will. ”

Trump gave a strange response like “you’re the man” to the investigators, according to the former official.

Another document submitted to the government explains an FBI interview about how the National Archives and Records Administration tried to find government records that were missing. This includes letters from President Obama and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The interview with a former Trump administration official, whose name is not mentioned but is called “Person 40,” talks about how Trump liked certain papers, like the North Korean letters.

The person in charge wrote down a lot of information about how records were managed when Trump was president. The notes say that another person who worked at the White House said that Trump didn’t believe in the system.

During a talk, Person 40 said that Trump’s boxes of papers should go to NARA. Person 14 asked, “Who’s NARA and how can they make it happen. ”

A person in their 40s wrote about how Trump destroyed, tore up, or threw away documents in the White House. Even when this was made public in a Politico story, the person said Trump didn’t stop.

FIFA DIRECTS FAZ TO GO ON WITH PLANNED AGM TOMORROW

The world soccer governing body FIFA has directed the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for Government Complex.

In a letter to FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga dated April 26, 2024, FIFA Member Associations Officer, Kenny Jean-Marie said the reported injunction by the Ndola High Court freezing out the FAZ AGM amount to undue influence by third parties.

Jean-Marie said that failure to hold the AGM by FAZ would provide possible grounds for suspension.

“In addition, please note that the order of the High Court of Zambia dated 24 April 2024 appears to clearly amount to undue influence by third parties which could be considered as a violation of Article 19 paragraph 1 of the FIFA Statutes and Article 7 paragraph 1.g. of the CAF Statutes,” reads part of the letter from FIFA.

“As a result, FIFA takes the view that any further attempt by a third party to prevent the FAZ Annual General Meeting from taking place might be considered a violation to the above- mentioned principle, which would oblige our institution to bring the matter to the attention of the relevant FIFA bodies for consideration of possible sanctions in line with the FIFA Statutes.”

FIFA adds: “For the avoidance of doubt, please note that the infringement of the aforementioned provisions of the FIFA and CAF Statutes may give rise to grounds for the suspension of FAZ irrespective of whether the infringement was attributed to FAZ or not.”

FIFA further states that any suspension by FAZ would deprive Zambia of any sporting participation with any country dealing with Zambia risking sanctions.

“Finally, we would like to remind you that a suspended member association may not exercise any of its membership rights. Other member associations may not entertain sporting contact with a suspended member association. The Disciplinary Committee may impose further sanctions (cf. art. 16 par. 3 ofthe FIFA Statutes and art.8 par.3 of the CAF Statutes). A suspended member association loses all its membership rights, as defined in art. 13 of the FIFA Statutes and art. 6 of the CAF Statutes, with immediate effect and until further notice,” says FIFA.

“Likewise, the representative teams as well as the affiliated clubs of this federation can no longer take part in international competitions until the suspension has been lifted. In view of the foregoing, FAZ is directed to conduct its Annual General Meeting.”

FIFA says it has taken interest in the reported arrests of the FAZ president, Mr. Andrew Kamanga, General Secretary Reuben Kamanga and other officials by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC)

“We took note with great concern that the FAZ President, two standing committee members and yourself, were jointly charged and arrested by the relevant authorities for a number of counts mentioned in your correspondence,” says Jean-Marie.

“In view of this, and in order to have more clarity on the situation, we would like to kindly request that you provide us, latest by 30 April 2024. with copies of any documents received in relation to the accusations and ongoing investigation against the above-mentioned FAZ officials as well as any additional information that may have been brought to your attention since the arrests took place,” FIFA says.

FAZ is scheduled to hold its AGM on Saturday (tomorrow) at Government Complex with delegates across the country trickling into Lusaka.
