Egyptian forfeits US$5 million, as State gives back jet in gold scandal

THE State has given back the Aircraft Global Express T77WSS Jet to its owners after Egyptian Micheal Adel Michell Botros surrendered US$5 million as punishment for engaging in illicit gold transactions at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in August 2023.

The minerals, firearms, ammunition and drilling machine will be surrendered to the State by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

The parties have avoided a lengthy legal battle and have opted for a win win situation by entering into a consent agreement before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court

In this matter the Director of Public Prosecutions moved a motion before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court to have the jet, money, fire arm and minerals which were onboard, confiscated on reasons that the same were tainted for having been used to commit a crime.

The DPP had cited World Aviation Sinai International, Mountains Limited, IBIS Air (PTY) Limited and Micheal Adel Michel Botros as interested parties in the matter.

Among the items that were earmarked for confiscation were Global Express T7-WSS JET, US$5, 697, 700. 00, 602 pieces of Brass pellets (A combination of Copper and Zinc metals weighing a total of 127.28 kilograms, five pistols with 126 rounds of ammunition, 11 pistol magazines, a drilling machine and a central processing unit.

According to a consent judgement endorsed by judges Pixie Yangailo, Mwanajiti Mabbolobbolo and Vincent Siloka it was agreed that DEC shall release the jet to World Aviation Sinai International forthwith.

It has been agreed that Botros will forfeit US$5 million to the Zambian government and get the excess UU$697, 700 through his lawyers to cover some of the attendant costs of facilitating and servicing the aircraft, for it to achieve optimal airworthiness.

“All other items seized by DEC be surrendered to the State, and we consent to the order in the terms herein set out,”ordered the Court.

Each party shall have to bear their own costs…https://kalemba.news/…/egyptian-forfeits-us5-million…/

WE’LL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPEN DOOR GRANTED TO ZAMBIA BY THE AMERICAN PUBLIC AND THE GLOBAL COMMMUNITY, MUSOKOTWANE

Finance and National Planning Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, MP, has described the Zambian delegation’s first day, Monday, at the ongoing 2024 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington DC, USA, as engaging, productive and an open door granted to Zambia by the Bretton Woods Institutions (IMF and World Bank Group), the American public, and the global community, to market her investment potential and natural resource endowments.

“During our assignment here, we have to take advantage of the open doors granted by our partners and the rest of the global community to promote investments in economic sectors in which we have a competitive edge in the region and the greatest potential to sustain Zambia on a strong path of economic transformation and growth. This will also aid in the attainment of our value-chain, wealth creation, citizen empowerment and poverty reduction goals in all regions of the country,” Dr Musokotwane told his delegation at a briefing meeting on assignments for the day.

Dr MUSOKOTWANE is accompanied to the Spring Meetings by Secretary to the Treasury FELIX NKULUKUSA, Bank of Zambia Governor Dr DENNY KALYALYA, Acting Permanent Secretary (Budget & Economic Affairs) MWAKA MUKUBESA, Zambia Revenue Authority Commissioner General DINGANI BANDA and Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor (Operations), Dr FRANCIS CHIPIMO. Zambia is also being represented at the Global Parliamentary Forum being held on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings by Honourable FRED CHIBULO CHAATILA, MP, Chairperson of the Zambian Parliamentary Planning and Budget Committee, and Honourable DAVIDSON MUNANGANDU, MP, Member of the Zambian Parliamentary Committee on National Economy, Trade and Labour.

Meanwhile, IMF Managing Director KRISTALINA GEORGIEVA, the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation Managing Director MAKHTAR DIOP, World Bank Managing Director for Operations ANNA BJERDE, US Treasury Under Secretary JAY SHAMBAUGH, Angola’s Minister of Finance VERA DAVES DE SOUSA, and US Chamber of Commerce President for the US-Africa Business Center KENDRA GEITHER, among others, took opportunities of their separate meetings with the Zambian delegation to congratulate and commend the country for the positive developments in the debt restructuring process.

IMF

During the IMF-Zambia bilateral meeting, Monday evening, Ms Georgieva congratulated Zambia for reaching an agreement with bondholders, further indicating that the country’s progress was a major milestone under the G20 common framework. The IMF Managing Director encouraged Zambia to remain on the path of economic transformation despite the challenges posed by climate change, and other shocks.

“You have so many reforms in place and in the right direction, Zambia is going to do great,” Ms Georgieva observed.

At the meeting, Dr Musokotwane delivered fraternal greetings from His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. HAKAINDE HICHILEMA to the leadership of the IMF for massively supporting the country during difficult and challenging times as the Government strove to attain debt restructuring. He paid tribute to the IMF for the role played together with other stakeholders and partners.

The Minister also took the opportunity to congratulate Ms Georgieva for her renewed term office as Managing Director of the IMF. He appealed to the IMF to continue helping Zambia in positively marketing the unfolding economic transformation landscape – attested by the strong growth registered in the fourth quarter of 2023, which resulted in a 5% annual GDP growth.

The Minister also briefed the IMF on measures being undertaken by the Government to mitigate the food supply negative impact of drought on citizens. He indicated that power challenges may have a dent on industrial productivity but affirmed that the Government will maintain its focus on strong growth and ensure that, through good governance practices, the country’s credit rating goes back on the positive upward trajectory.

US Treasury

Meanwhile, during the US-Zambia bilateral meeting, Monday, US Treasury Under Secretary JAY SHAMBAUGH conveyed the US Government’s appreciation of how Zambia has been able to remain resilient under difficult circumstances.

Responding to a question on the debt restructuring process, Dr Musokotwane indicated that 77 percent of eligible debt has been negotiated while another 23 percent has to be negotiated, mostly with commercial creditors. To improve resource mobilisation, he stated, the Government, through ZRA, is in the process of appointing fiscal agents. The Minister announced that a meeting with bond holders will soon be convened with a view of concluding the process as soon as possible.

The US Treasury Under Secretary took the opportunity to state the American Government’s willingness to help combat economic crimes and promote interagency coordination. On the Lobito corridor project, Mr. Shambaugh reiterated the will to push the agenda as quickly as possible through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) route.

US Chamber of Commerce

Meanwhile, during the US Chamber of Commerce roundtable discussion on the economic and fiscal outlook for Zambia held on the side-lines of the ongoing Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group, Monday, US Chamber of Commerce President for the US-Africa Business Center KENDRA GEITHER specified the Importance of good leadership in establishing partnerships and conditions that are attractive to investment. She congratulated Zambia for the progress made in debt restructuring through the strong and focussed leadership of President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.

Ms GEITHER observed that although not many countries are currently recording strong performance, the Zambian economy had shown signs of resilience, adding that, the debt restructuring process had now put the country on strong footing.

“To commit the Government to a plan and agenda for reform says a lot about the leadership of President HICHILEMA and your team,” said Ms GEITHER. Good leadership is vital in creating economic conditions and opportunities for trade and investment to take place and for the work that the Zambian Government is doing in partnering with regional leaders to development infrastructure, agriculture, digital advancements, and the Lobito corridor.

During the roundtable, the Minister also took the opportunity to brief the high-level industry delegates on the performance of the Zambian economy, recent developments, and measures put in place to facilitate trade and investment through legislative realignment, and steps taken to facilitate the ease of doing business and good economic governance.

Dr MUSOKOTWANE appealed to the American private sector to invest more in Zambia by taking up prospects in mining, agriculture, tourism, value chain development, the green economy and digital infrastructure, through direct investments or public private partnerships.

BISHOP PHIRI COUNSELS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

BISHOP PHIRI COUNSELS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

Catholic Diocese of Ndola Bishop Benjamin has implored law enforcement officers to serve people with honesty and love.

Bishop Phiri noted that there are officers denting the image of law enforcement agencies through bad conduct in the course of their duty.

The Ndola Chief Shepherd said law enforcement should be centered on crime prevention as opposed to wanting to catch citizens napping.

In his recent homily in the Ndola- Cathedral of Christ the King, Bishop Phiri said the presence of the police in communities or on roads should not scare citizens.

“God has a task for all of us. Let us do our part, let each one do his part honestly and with love. You officers in the security wings have a very important task for all of us, now when one of you or more of you begin to do just their own things vamu mutu chabe then you are not only spoiling the name of the uniform but maybe President should give us the right for citizens arrest so that we can arrest such a person and remove the uniform because they are not worth of the uniform they wear,” Bishop Phiri said.

“You cannot be in uniform and do wrong things. I should feel safe when I come to you or when I find you. I should not be afraid because now you are going to ask me for this and that. Unless you pay this you are going to be this. No,” he said.

“Safety on the road is very important and people have to observe those regulations and they should be road signs and so on. But a police officer doesn’t have to hide in a trench, in a ditch or behind a tree to ensure that I am keeping the law. The police officer should be visible so that when I see him or her it is a deterrent. I began driving safely. The idea is not to catch me but the idea is to prevent me from committing the offence. But sometimes even in the same family you have some good and bad seeds. We will continue to give advice. Many of the officers are young, as a senior citizen sometimes I just say young man this is not the way. Let’s do the correct thing after all I have been where you are and more,” Bishop Phiri said.

In the same sermon, Bishop Phiri asked the media to be professional and
ethical.

Nikki Haley gets new job after failed 2024 presidential bid

0

Former US presidential candidate, Nikki Haley has announced that she has taken up a new job.

The former South Carolina governor last month, dropped out of the Republican presidential primary after failing to gain enough momentum against rival Donald Trump following Super Tuesday, when the former president swept nearly every contest.

Haley announced on Monday April 15, she will be joining the Hudson Institute, a conservative foreign-policy think tank as their Walter P. Stern Chair.

During her 2024 bid, the former US ambassador to the UN stressed the importance of America’s alliances with Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan and said she will be using her position at Hudson to further her foreign-policy objectives by guiding other policymakers.

“When our policymakers fail to call out our enemies or acknowledge the importance of our alliances, the world is less safe. That is why Hudson’s work is so critical,” Haley said in a statement.

“They believe the American people should have the facts and policymakers should have the solutions to support a secure, free, and prosperous future. I look forward to partnering with them to defend the principles that make America the greatest country in the world.”

The Walter P. Stern Chair program started in 2020 to acknowledge the accomplishments of former Hudson Chairman Walter “Wally” Stern, who played a key role in propelling the institute into a well-known foreign-policy organization.

“Nikki is a proven, effective leader on both foreign and domestic policy,” Hudson President and CEO John Walters said in a statement. “In an era of worldwide political upheaval, she has remained a steadfast defender of freedom and an effective advocate for American security and prosperity. We are honored to have her join the Hudson team.”

Sarah May Stern, chair of Hudson’s Board of Trustees, said of Haley’s new post, “It is fitting that Nikki has taken on this title.

“She is a courageous and insightful policymaker and these qualities are vital in making Hudson the powerhouse policy organization it is today, and I am extremely proud that she has joined the Institute.”

My ex-wife decided she didn’t want to be married anymore- Football legend Kaka

0

Brazilian football legend, Kaka has spoken about his 2015 divorce.

In 2005, Kaka married his childhood sweetheart Caroline Celico, and they welcomed a son and a daughter together, before splitting a decade later.

Last week, it was reported that Celico had revealed they divorced because ‘he was too perfect for me.’ However, she denied it saying they divorced on mutual grounds.

Kaka, 41, has now broken his silence in a podcast, reported by Spanish outlet Sport, and revealed he did everything he could to save his marriage, because of his strong religious values, noting ‘A Christian does not marry to get a divorce’.

The former Real Madrid and Orlando City star said: ‘In 2015 I was married, and my wife at the time decided she didn’t want to be married anymore.

‘She said, “I’m not happy and I attribute my unhappiness to marriage”.

‘I was living in the United States, and she asked to go back to Brazil.

‘Her words were, “I want to go back to Brazil, I want to live there and I don’t want to be married anymore”.’

He added: ‘I did everything I could to prevent the divorce from happening because that’s where the Christian’s conflict arises.’

Celico, who has since remarried explained why they decided to split, as previously reported by The Sun.

‘Kaka never betrayed me,’ she said. ‘He treated me well, he gave me a wonderful family, but I was not happy, something was missing.

‘The problem was, he was too perfect for me.’

After their split in December 2015, Kaka struggled to deal with the divorce due to his Christian values.

He said: ‘I stayed single for a year, trying to assimilate the situation and dealing with it as a Christian, talking to the pastors, because the Bible tells you not to get divorced and I was there, getting divorced.’

Kaka has since moved on with Brazilian model Carolina Dias. They began dating in 2017, with their engagement announced earlier this year. They also have a one-year-old daughter together.

The Brazilian enjoyed a glittering career for the likes of Sao Paulo, AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Orlando City before retiring from the game in 2017.

Shares in Trump’s Truth social fall by 14%

0

Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group’s stock TMTG (DJT) tumbled 14% on Tuesday after closing 18% lower Monday after the company’s premier product, Truth Social, announced a major expansion into streaming, a cost-intensive business tha has seen the likes of Disney and HBO struggle to make profit from.

TMTG’s stock, majority-owned by former President Donald Trump, is down more than 70% from the all-time high it set on March 26, the day after it merged with a blank-check acquisition company to go public.

Although the company is still worth billions of dollars, it is struggling to make money according to Wall street experts.

Wall Street Experts have warned investors to be careful if they choose to trade the stock, because the company doesn’t have the fundamentals to back up its sky-high valuation.

Trump Media lost $58 million in 2023 and made just $4.1 million in revenue. So, it announced Monday it would sell 21.5 million more shares to the public to raise cash even though that would dilute the value for existing shareholders.

The streaming initiative didn’t give investors any reason to get expectant about the company. Truth Social said it spent the past six months testing its web, iPhone and iPad apps for live TV streaming, and it hopes to launch a content delivery network to stand up streaming apps for phones and tablets and eventually smart TVs.

Truth Social said its streaming network could host live news, religious programing and family-friendly shows, movies and documentaries that “has been cancelled, is at risk of cancellation, or is being suppressed on other platforms and services.”

“With our streaming content, we aim to provide a permanent home for high-quality news and entertainment that face discrimination by other channels and content delivery services,” said TMTG CEO Devin Nunes, a former Republican congressman for California in a statement.

“There is a lot of great content that simply can’t find an audience for unjust reasons, and we want to let these creators know they’ll soon have a guaranteed platform where they won’t be cancelled.”

Trump added billions of dollars to his net worth after TMTG’s merger with the blank check company in late March. But his shares’ value has plunged from a peak of $5.2 billion to about $1.8 billion. Trump’s net worth fell roughly $300 million Tuesday from the stock’s plunge.

Pochettino furious about Chelsea players ‘drama’ over who to take penalty during Everton clash

0

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed his frustration over the penalty dispute during their 6-0 victory against Everton and cautioned his players against repeating such incidents.

Pochettino revealed he was “so upset” about the disagreement between Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke over who would take the penalty. Ultimately, Cole Palmer, Chelsea’s designated penalty taker, stepped up and converted the spot-kick, scoring his fourth goal of the match.

The manager emphasised the importance of unity within the team and urged his players to avoid similar conflicts in the future.

“I can’t accept this kind of behaviour,” said Pochettino.

“I told them it’s the last time I want to see this kind of behaviour.”

He added: “It is impossible to have this type of behaviour after this performance. If we want to be a great team, we need to change and think in a collective way.”

Palmer scored the 64th-minute penalty for the Blues—his ninth successful spot-kick of the season—following a bizarre 60-second confrontation involving five players.

Initially, Madueke and Jackson both went to grab the ball from Malo Gusto, with Madueke getting there first and prompting a 30-second exchange between the pair. Thiago Silva then intervened, with Jackson walking away.

Captain Conor Gallagher then approached Madueke, pointing at Palmer and telling him to hand the ball over.

Madueke refused both men, before Gallagher grabbed the ball and handed it to Palmer.

Palmer and then Gallagher had to shove Jackson away, who came back to get involved again, and then a final push from Gallagher on Madueke ended the squabble.

Pochettino said afterwards that all the players know Palmer is the designated penalty taker.

“The penalty taker is Palmer. It’s Palmer who needs to decide if he wants to give the ball to a teammate. It’s important to fix it They realise now,” the Argentine said.

“It’s a shame. It’s a process for a young team that needs to learn a lot. I need to apologise because fans around the world are seeing this type of situation after 4-0 to fight for a penalty.

“They need to learn and be professional. We need to be focused on the collective. It’s a clear example that it’s a process we still need to learn.”

Palmer has converted all nine penalties he has taken in the Premier League, with only former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, having a better 100% conversion rate—from 11 penalties—in the competition’s history.

In Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Leicester in the FA Cup quarter-final in March, Raheem Sterling took a penalty – with Palmer on the pitch and missed.

Palmer himself tried to play down the incident afterwards.

“Other players wanted to take it, but I am the penalty taker and I wanted to take it,” the ex-Manchester City player said.

“I think we are showing everyone wants to take responsibility. It may be a bit over the top, but everyone wants to win – we are laughing and joking about it.”

Everton midfielder Dele Alli, watching the game for Sky Sports as he continues his recovery from a long-term injury, saw it differently.

This was Palmer’s second home hat-trick in a row, having scored a 100th-minute penalty in a 4-3 win over Manchester United earlier this month.

“This is them showing their age. I’m not there at the training ground every day, but as far as I’m aware in their last big game, in the last minute when the pressure was on, I didn’t see them all fighting to take it then,” he said.

“It’s alright when it’s 4-0 and you all want to get on the scoresheet.”

“I don’t fear them” – Pep Guardiola warns ahead of second leg with Real Madrid

0

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed confidence ahead of their quarterfinal second leg against Real Madrid, stating that he does not fear the 14-time Champions League winners.

Despite Real Madrid’s formidable history in the competition, Guardiola emphasised that he is not concerned about their past successes.

City have faced Real Madrid in recent seasons, both winning and losing at the semifinal stage, but Guardiola remains focused on the upcoming decisive match at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

“I don’t fear them,” Guardiola told a news conference on Tuesday. “I respect them a lot. I’ve faced them many times. I respect Real Madrid and if I say I’m scared of them, I would be false.

“There’s the rivalry; you want to beat them and do well. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. But I’m not scared of them and if they beat me, as has happened many times, we will say congratulations and wish them well.”

After last week’s 3-3 draw in the first leg at the Bernabéu, there have now been 23 goals in the last five meetings between the two teams.

City beat Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad in the semifinal second leg last season, but Bernardo Silva insists this version of Carlo Ancelotti’s team is better.

“Two different seasons, and it never happens to be the same game in football again,” said Silva. “I feel Madrid is stronger this season than last season. That was my feeling when we played them at the Bernabeu [last week].

For sure, they will want a bit of revenge [for the result in Manchester last season] so it will be a very difficult game.”

After achieving a historic feat last season as the second English team to secure a Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup treble, City is poised to replicate its success this year.

A consecutive treble would elevate Guardiola’s side to contention for the title of the greatest club team ever. Silva acknowledges that this possibility serves as a source of motivation for the City squad.

“It’s obviously an inspiration,” he added. “We know how well this team has done and we want to create that legacy and to do another Premier League to do six in seven years and four in a row and we want to win the Champions League to do two in a row and if we win two trebles in a row that would be a legacy.

“In one week, we could be out of all the competitions but we are fighting for it.”

Oscar Pistorius begins new life as he performs janitorial duties at local church

The stark contrast between winning Paralympic gold and performing janitorial duties at a suburban church presents a distressing narrative for a professional athlete. In the aftermath of Oscar Pistorius’ infamous murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, it’s difficult to imagine him reclaiming any semblance of his former life.

Once celebrated globally for his achievements on the track, Pistorius, now 37, has faded from the public eye, a stark departure from his days of nightclub appearances and media acclaim, as reported by Daily Mail.

Pistorius was released on parole in January from Atteridgeville Correctional Centre in Pretoria, serving only half of his 2016 sentence. Now volunteering at NG Kerk Waterkloof, a Dutch Reformed Church near his new residence, those who encounter him perceive him as more of a ghost than a human.

“He’s not friendly, not outgoing,” one parishioner told the New York Post on Wednesday. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him crack a smile. He’s just a shadow of what he once was.”

In 2024, Pistorius dedicated himself to work at the church, which is registered as his place of employment, according to his parole documentation. His responsibilities include light maintenance and janitorial tasks, alongside attending services.

When news of his release broke earlier this year, reports suggested that his duties may also involve sweeping floors and assisting with parking cars during Sunday services.

Since his initial trial in 2014, where Pistorius was initially convicted of culpable homicide before it was later overturned to murder for shooting and killing Steenkamp, he has relied heavily on his faith.

Throughout court proceedings, he frequently carried a rosary and was photographed reading “Breakthrough Prayer: The Power of Connecting with the Heart of God” by Jim Cymbal during breaks.

During his testimony, he spoke of praying with Steenkamp before meals and her involvement in his training prayers. While in prison, he initiated a Bible study group and led prayer sessions. Reports surrounding his release suggested he was considering a transition into preaching.

The significance of NG Kerk Waterkloof in Pistorius’s life goes beyond mere volunteer work. His uncle, Arnold Pistorius, a prominent figure in his life, regularly attends the church. Arnold has assumed a quasi-paternal role for Pistorius since the passing of his mother, Sheila, when Pistorius was 15, taking on responsibility for him and his siblings, Aimee and Carl.

Following his release on bail before his conviction, Pistorius initially resided at his uncle Arnold’s lavish Waterkloof residence and exhibited early signs of paranoia and seclusion. These traits have become defining features of his post-prison life in his uncle’s residence. Concerns about potential threats, once centered on avoiding windows to evade imagined assassins, have intensified since his conviction.

Police in Johannesburg reportedly received information suggesting that local gangs seek revenge, leading to assertions that Pistorius will perpetually feel the need to watch his back due to the repugnant nature of his crime.

After near-death experience, Serena Williams launches new initiative with Elaine Welteroth to help mothers

0

Elaine Welteroth, a mompreneur and TV personality, has partnered with 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams to launch birthFUND, which aims to address the maternal health crisis in the U.S.

The two pioneering women have had similar struggles with near-fatal pregnancies. In an article in Time Magazine, Welteroth wrote, “Between Serena’s first birth experience and mine, more than 3,400 mothers died during or after childbirth in the U.S. That’s 3,400 prayers never whispered into tiny ears—3,400 parents who won’t be able to watch their beautiful babies grow up. This should not be the norm in the country with the largest economy in the world.”

Considering various medical and technological advances, she questioned why the U.S. still had high rates of maternal mortality.

The article stated that even though the two were aware of the concerning statistics, they had long thought that their privilege would protect them from the risk of becoming part of the numbers—a belief they held until it was proven false.

Welteroth recounted, “Having babies in America was a wake-up call for both of us. Like many parents, and first-time parents at that, we never anticipated the harrowing experiences we’d have on the road to becoming mothers. We have both accomplished a lot in our lives and careers—from Grand Slams to history-making career appointments—needless to say, we can do hard things. But nothing made us feel as disempowered as being pregnant and Black in America, left to rely upon a medical system that is statistically failing people who look like us.”

Even after joining forces to share their personal stories to increase awareness, the two thought that more needed to be done to actively develop solutions that would alter both the national dialogue and the quality of obstetric care.

Williams has made no secret of her near-death experience while giving birth in a hospital, and Welteroth has also written openly about her depressing experiences with doctors, which changed her life and made her decide to give birth at home with Black midwives.

Welteroth started her birthFUND project as an Instagram birthday fundraiser in December 2023. In just 16 hours, she was able to raise almost $16,000 to pay for the births of two families at Kindred Space LA, the Black-owned midwifery practice she used for her delivery. Soon, the fundraiser sparked a new maternal health movement. From that time on, birthFUND has rapidly expanded into a coalition dedicated to increasing access to midwifery care for families nationwide who cannot afford the out-of-pocket expenses.

Besides Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian, birthFUND has received support from John Legend and Chrissy Teigen; Kelly Rowland; Ashley Graham, and Karlie Kloss, as well as strategic corporate partners like SoFi.

The article stated that although most insurance plans in the United States do not cover midwifery, and home birth with midwife assistance is prohibited in certain states, midwifery is the standard birth-care model utilized both inside and outside of hospitals in other high-income nations with better birth outcomes, such as the United Kingdom, France, and Canada.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that Black women have a three times higher risk of dying during and after childbirth than White women. Nonetheless, Welteroth stated in the article that she believes the incident is not entirely about race or status, declaring “Our goal with birthFUND is to help remove financial barriers to quality care and to expand life-saving access to both education and choice.”

“No matter where or how they decide to give birth, parents deserve access to safe, dignified care. Right now, that human right is out of reach for far too many.”

She concluded, “We are ready to tackle this issue, head on. And we hope families—and companies—all over the country will join us.”

Answering Laura Miti’s boot-licking Antics

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Civil Society activist Laura Miti has stirred up a hornets’ nest by her irrational claims that President Hichilema has not had a personal financial scandal in 3 years.

President Hichilema’s proximity to the recent large-scale scandals and acts of corruption, disqualifies Laura’s statement.

Infact Socialist Party President, Fred M’membe has stated that Hichilema’s sophisticated acts of corruption and plunder of national resources “makes the Patriotic Front” look like “pick-pocketers”.

There are times I think that Laura Miti’s personal quest to ensure that President Hichilema succeeds, blinds her so much that she embarrasses herself with her rattling and empty praises and noises in favour of Hichilema.

Let’s tabulate President Hichilema’s financial scandals, which I bet will one day be investigated;

1. $50million- fresh in State House in 2021, President Hichilema perpetrated this fraudulent procurement involving fertiliser worth $50million. This was a contract single-sourced and awarded to his long-time friend, Maurice Jangulo and tje company Alpha Commodities.

2. US$40 million Environmental Protection Fun. This fund has always been managed by the Ministry of Mines, but a fund manager was sourced and awarded to African Life Financial Services Limited, a company belonging to President Hichilema until 2019. His long-time business partners; Munakupya Hantuba and Valentine Chitalu remain shareholders.

3. $2.5billion at Kansanshi Copper and Gold Mine and the irregular incentives given to First Quantum Minerals(FQM). The Guardian Newspaper of UK exposed FQM’s financial and technical support given to UPND in elections. Following a high-level security meeting hosted by President Hichilema in May 2022 with delegates to the African Security Dialogue hosted by Brenthurst Foundation held at Royal Zambezi Lodge, the meeting birthed the USA Africom Security Office in Zambia and incentives to FQM. Earlier ZCCM-IH took to court FQM for siphoning $2.5billion from KansanshiCopper and Gold Mine. A special audit of Kansanshi Copper and Gold Mine revealed the plunder. FQM Directors were facing criminal charges and court process were underway in Lusaka and an arbitration in London for ZCCM-IH to recover the $2.5billion. After this meeting in Lower Zambezi, the DPP dropped the criminal charges against FQM Directors, and ZCCM-IH was asked to drop the court cases. There is no pathway announced how Zambia will recover the $2.5billion stolen from Kansanshi Copper and Gold Mine. Further ZCCM-IH 20% shareholding in the lucrative mine were irregularly converted to a royalty payment.

4. The Mopani Deal-ZCCM-IH has hired investment bank Rothschild & Co to sale Mopani. Rothschild brought in a law firm Baker McKenzie to help coordinate the sale. By October 2023, Government announced that prospective equity partner had been whittled down from ten to four.

The finalists was made up of entities comprising; China’s Zijin Mining, South Africa’s Sibanye Stillwater, China-based Norinco Group and an investment vehicle owned by ex-Glencore officials.

From nowhere, an unknown non-mining firm International Resource Holding(IRH) were presented to scoop Mopani Copper. Prior to Glencore leaving Mopani in 2020, it had invested $4.5billion to extend the life of the mine by over 25 years, improve production efficiencies and safeguard the existing jobs. Mopani sunk Syclinorium and Mindola Deeps Shafts at Nkana Mine in Kitwe and The Henderson Shaft at Mufulira Mine site. Mopani also built a brand new Concentrator at Nkana mine site, The New Syclinorium Concentrator.
In short, this a precious mine with newly investment in the assets.

President Hichilema proceeded to transfer shares without approval of Parliament.

The details are that the share price of 51% were sold at the price of $620million.

However this money is not being paid to ZCCM-IH but is a mere investment pledge into the mine.
Rothschild & Co and Baker McKenzie have walked away with $15.7million as transaction fees.
Further, the new owners IRH through their new subsidiary Delta Mining and the new deal involving Jubilee Metals on mine slags in Mufulira and Luanshya raises concerns. The company recently appointed Munakupya Hantuba as its Board Chairperson in Zambia.
Jubilee secured one of Zambia’s largest copper waste rock assets and entered into a partnership with International Resources Holding. The asset has been independently verified to contain a minimum of 260 million tonnes of historical waste rock, with Jubilee’s sampling indicating copper grades above 1.5%.Jubilee CEO Leon Coetzer said: “At Munkoyo, early test work of approximately 80,000t has revealed excellent copper grades of 1.5–3% for what was believed to be an uneconomic source of copper by previous owners.

5. Investment at Community House- Since President Hakainde Hichilema has refused to shift to the designated State House, the State has been forced to invest in security and infrastructure wares to make Community House safe and secure. A new access road, water and electricity installations have been done using public resources. A second helipad has been made and Community House has been designated as an area enjoying flight restrictions in the proximity of Community House near the area like State House is.
So to Laura, there are dozens large-scale acts of suspected corruption associated with State House. To absolve President Hichilema of corruption is to betray your patriotism to this country. Infact, many analyst have termed Hichilema’s Government is probably the biggest looter of national assets and the Treasury making previous acts of corruption to be pick-pocketing.

Expect no free and fair elections under the new dawn administration in August 2026- Aaron Ng’ambi

Expect no free and fair elections under the new dawn administration in August 2026

By Aaron Ng’ambi(The Mast)

The Bembas have a phrase which says that “Icikwanka bacimona kumampalanya”, which simply means; in life you can tell those with good intentions or not, through their small honest acts of kindness or otherwise.

It is no longer a matter of dispute that the new dawn government has been notorious in practicing electoral malpractices in broad daylight without shame. This is by far beyond any form of resemblance of what awaits the nation during the August elections of 2026.

To begin with, President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) has compromised the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) by removing professionals at the helm of that institution – while replacing them with cadres of the United Party for National Development (UPND). The examples are too many to mention, but the list begins with the chairperson herself madam Mwangala Zaloumis, and then trickles down to commissioners such as McDonald Chipenzi etc. Just when we had thought that the previous regime was terrible at running public institutions, little did we know that the new dawn administration would be worse off. Because this is not only happening at ECZ, but across many public institutions where cadres have replaced professionals, sometimes even on tribal lines with impunity. This is not good for development, and definitely not good for a democracy. More often than not, institutions of governance in a thriving democracy largely depend on retention of qualified and credible individuals for the sake of continuity and for institutional memory. However, this is not the case for this government, and particularly the ECZ story makes a sad reading.

Therefore, in 2026 Zambians should expect no free, fair, and credible elections under the watch of these party cadres, who have been appointed to oversee our elections. In fact, the failures of this gang or group of cadres at ECZ have already been exposed and seen in many places where elections have been conducted at ward by-elections or even elections of deputy mayors in respective councils. All these elections have witnessed the manipulations of the process by the powers that be, and they have made no apologies for it. Recently, the Commission even cancelled the tender for the printing and delivery of ballot papers, blind voter templates, and announcement forms. This cancellation has led to massive speculations that the ECZ wants to single source for this tender, against laid down procedure. Also, we have witnessed that since the early days of taking office, the UPND have done everything they can to create unnecessary by-elections and then even gone further to play unfair in those elections. This is dangerous because the ruling party is so desperate to perpetuate this imaginary impression of being popular on the ground regardless of the economic hardships facing the people under their watch.

To talk about this subject, without referring to the original sins of the new dawn administration in Kabushi and Kwacha would be a grave mistake. For any objective and well-meaning Zambian, it is an open secret that the UPND stole the Kabushi and Kwacha parliamentary seats from the Patriotic Front (PF) without any form of justification. Those with a good memory will recall that even the Head of State, President HH was embarrassed during the process as he went to campaign in the two by-elections whose fate was still in the Constitutional Court. That dark cloud of “mingalato” will forever hang over the UPND up until the next elections – the people have not forgotten and will not forget what happened in Kabushi and Kwacha respectively. And as if it wasn’t enough to steal parliamentary seats in broad daylight.

The new dawn administration has continued to engage in electoral malpractices, and the recent cases of elections in Kabwe, Kitwe, and Ndola for deputy mayoral position cannot be overlooked. This government would go an extent of sinking so low by detaining the Ndola mayor just to prevent him from participating in the election of his deputy. The fact of the matter is that this mayor of Ndola, is a PF member and everyone knows that he would have voted for his preferred candidate from PF to deputise him. Unfortunately for him and the PF, the ruling party did not want a PF deputy mayor in Ndola – so they had to detain the city mayor during the voting hours, and later released the man without any charge. Undoubtedly, to use the police service in such a manner exhibits the extent to which this government will go to compromise and weaken state institutions, just to win an election. Moreover, Ndola was not the only place where the ruling party used the police in such a shameful manner. In fact, it is widely reported that the same ploy was used in Kitwe where a PF councilor was detained so that he could not vote for a PF candidate to be deputy mayor of the city. And in both cases, the UPND carried the day by one vote to produce deputy mayors in Ndola and Kitwe respectively.

This is absurd and cannot be tolerated by any well-meaning Zambian, because paying a blind eye to these injustices will have two specific consequences. First and foremost, it will create a precedent, which will be terrible for our people and the future generations. We cannot afford to normalise wrongs as a country, and certainly not as a Christian nation. Secondly, these same tactics almost caused a mini riot in Kabwe as the new dawn government attempted to steal the deputy mayoral seat in that beautiful town of Central Province. Therefore, if not done away with, these electoral malpractices of the UPND have great potential to set our country on fire. Evidently, as we approach the August 2026 elections, the regime at Community House will get more and more desperate and only God knows, what else they will be capable of doing just to hold on to power.

Since taking over government, almost three years now – the UPND through the police service have not allowed, not even one rally to be held by the opposition. This is a clear sign that someone somewhere is terrified of the unknown. Also, this attempt by the ruling party to regulate social media broadcasts through the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) is nothing but another cowardly outfit by a regime that knows it’s become unpopular. Actually, its unthinkable that less than two years and nine months ago, President HH was on top of a hill telling everyone that on day one as President he was going to repeal and do away with the Cyber Security Act immediately because this law was an infringement on the rights of expression for all citizens. This man has kept that same law because it now serves his interests, and sadly he now wants to go further to gag citizens on social media by amending the IBA Act. This is betrayal of the promises made as an opposition leader, and furthermore an act of dishonesty to say the least.

In a nutshell, we can safely deduce that based on these factual observations, no person in their right mind frame can argue that the 2026 elections promise to be free, fair, and credible if this regime and the President himself do not have a serious change of attitude.

MPs PLAN PROTESTS

…Brian Mundubile says the prolonged detention of Rizwani Patel, among other political prisoners should be condemned in the strongest terms, and says the opposition lawmakers have no option but to demand the immediate release of the victims.

Lusaka – Tuesday, 16 April 2023

OPPOSITION Members of Parliament are planning to protest against the continued injustices being perpetrated by the UPND government against citizens deemed to be associated with opposition political parties .

Mr Mundubile, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament said in an interview that many Zambians, including Rizwani Patel are being ill-treated and are having their rights violated by the UPND government.

Mr Mundubile said the opposition MPs have therefore resolved to convene and voice out on the injustice against the citizens and alert the international community about what Zambia had become…autocratic under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.

He said Mr Patel and other Zambian political prisoners had the right to fair trial and that detaining him without trial and indefinitely was uncalled for and should be condemned in the strongest terms.

Mr Mundubile has also appealed to the ruling party MPs from Eastern Province to join hands with the opposition MPs to ensure that justice prevailed.

“As MPs will soon gather and call out government especially on this particular case, we know there are many cases of injustices, i think it’s time to attend to them.

I also call upon all MPs from Eastern Province from both ruling and opposition to take keen interest to what is happening to Rizwani Patel. Rizwani is a citizen, Rizwani is not different from other people who represent Eastern Province.

“There should be concerted efforts by Members of Parliament to go and visit Rizwani and begin to speak about Rizwani’s fate. Zambians are also called upon to voice out on cases of injustice occasioned on ordinary citizens, “he said.

Mr Mundubile said; “Police are exerting excessive power on innocent citizens that can not defend themselves, citizens that can not hire lawyers for themselves. All Zambians have got rights of associate, of speech , movement and right of fair trial.”

He said now that the UPND government has failed to destroy the PF, they are trying by all means to punish those who are not in support of their program.

UPND believe anyone who challenges them they will simply arrest – Tembo

By Kholiwe Miti

ANY Zambian who believes that there is fair application of law their sanity should be questioned because the writing is on the wall, says Sean Tembo.

The Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) president said there is no fair application of the law in the UPND government.

During the Hot Seat programme on Hot FM on Thursday, Tembo said the UPND government is using the police as a tool to settle their disputes.

“Any Zambian who believes that there is a fair application of the law their sanity should be questioned because the writing is on the wall. If you read or view that video by Fr [Chewe] Mukosa where he was talking about the issue of load shedding, did he insult anybody in there? Did you find any insults? Of course, you didn’t. Did he disparage anybody? Of course he didn’t. So on what basis did the Zambia Police Service decide that they needed to summon Fr Mukosa for the offence of hate speech? Hate speech towards who, Zesco or government? That is ridiculous,” he said. “But anyone who has been following the actions of the Zambian police and the UPND government will realise that the UPND are using the Zambia Police as their number one tool. They believe that anyone who wants to challenge them they will simply arrest them on vigorous charges and are channelled to magistrates who get their instructions from State House. Magistrates who are going to give a conviction even when there is no evidence. That is their game plan. That is what they have been doing.”

Tembo said the Zambian judicial system has lost its credibility.

“We have a situation whereby the judiciary has lost all credibility. I will give you a small example, a few months ago we went to file a complaint at the magistrates court against the UPND secretary general Batuke Imenda. A criminal complaint for hate speech where he referred to the Archbishop of Lusaka Dr Alick Banda as a lucifer of Zambia. That is clear hate speech. Tou are saying someone is Satan and this is a head of a church, and we wrote to DPP Gilbert Phiri and we said give us consent to privately prosecute this matter. First of all he said you haven’t given evidence. So we sent him the evidence. We gave him the video where Imenda was saying those words. A clear video, that is evidence, and we also told him we have four witnesses who are willing to testify. Then he dilly-dallied for a good two months. Then the next one the matter came up for mention. We were informed, we were given a ruling that the DPP had declined the consent and despite the evidence he had declined the consent. So we decide we were going to pursue this matter because this is unfair application of the law,” he said. “We have individuals who are being given two years for hate speech. We have Chishimba Kambwili who was given five months for hate speech and the DPP is even appealing that sentence. That is double standards and we said we are going to take this case to the High Court for judicial review. And we proceeded to magistrate court to get a record of the letter that Gilbert Phiri wrote to the court where he declined to give consent because we need that if we are going to file for judicial review. We also wanted the court to render a ruling where he dismissed that and on file there is nothing. The letter from Gilbert Phiri is not on file. The ruling is not on file. And so you have a situation whereby the judiciary is being treated as a kantemba of the UPND. They can render any judgment or ruling they want and without any evidence, without any documents. How is it that the matter was dismissed if DPP never wrote a letter to deny consent? It speaks volumes of the underhand methods of UPND administration. Their use of the police, their use of the judiciary to undermine the democracy of this country.”

Tembo also said the reason why UPND does not care about its people is because it plans to rig the 2026 elections.

“When we politicians are speaking to the public like this they think we are joking. But my appeal is that if the people of Zambia are happy with the way the UPND is mismanaging the affairs of the nation, the way they are pocketing money – public money – into their pockets through consent judgments of their cadres; the way they are selling mines to themselves through proxies like IRH; the way they are mismanaging the economy, if they are happy then well and good. But if they are not happy and want a more sober government in 2026, it will not be enough for the people just to vote. What is needed in 2026 is for the people to actively participate in protecting the votes,” said Tembo. “Because I have no doubt in my mind that the reason the UPND are so arrogant, the reason the UPND do not care about public sentiments, they do not care about their political suicide is because they have got plans to rig the elections in 2026. And it is up to us the people, it is up to the people out there, to protect the vote. If people just vote and they go home and they expect the results to reflect their will they are dreaming. They need to be active at the polling stations monitoring the votes and ensuring that any UPND member who comes to ty and rig the elections the people effect a citizen’s arrest. That is the only way that the will of the people will be reflected in the results of the ballot.”

For I was hungry and you gave me a flashable toilet to flash- Kasebamashila Kaseba

WHEN ONE DELIVERED EXPENSIVE TOILET INSTEAD OF ONE’S PROMISED CHEAP MEALIE MEAL

— “For I was hungry and you gave me” a flashable toilet to flash —

Once upon a time in the long future ahead, also called the forward, the one all knowing great King of the great Kingdom, in the King declared drought disaster year, of one cassava meal in three to four days thus one flashable toilet visit in two weeks or fortnight, the richest King who had promised or decreed the cheapest maize mealie meal in history ceremoniously commissioned the most expensive flashable toilet for his poor subjects.

The rich King was alone happy to deliver or palter the unpromised most expensive flashable toilet instead of the cheapest staple food to the starving subjects also called starvelings’ dining tables.

He was also himself alone satisfied to deliver toilet water instead of kitchen sink drinking water.

He seemed unaware his Kingdom and subjects had already fallen off the Bristol Stool Scale of seven types of stool as they both urinated and defecated pure water, as opposed to “rice water stool” of the former King.

In short, they urinated, front and back.

He too had also fallen off or ran counter to his heir-apparent princely promises to the subjects, JCTR BNNB, United Nations SDGs, the home economics basic areas of eat first and toilet second.

As the King’s caravan of horse chariots left the flashable toilet sub area of “The Watchers” (Balangililo) in the larger area of “The Dawn” (Kwacha) of “The Elephant Head City” (Chitwe) the King watched for himself as a long convoy of elephant chariots ladden with cheap maize mealie meal quaked the earth as they snaked their export mealie meal cargo to the neighboring Kingdom, which was also the source of flashable toilet water.

The export convoy was guarded and escorted by his soldiers.

The King also watched his distracted subjects and then shouted to the watchers of the mealie meal convoy, “Remember, as I said (flashing) water is life; more important than cheap export mealie meal.”

MY OWN CHILDREN BEAT ME LIKE A THIEF, LUSAKA WOMAN CRIES TO COURT

MY OWN CHILDREN BEAT ME LIKE A THIEF, LUSAKA WOMAN CRIES TO COURT

A SIXTY-four year old woman of Lusaka has told a harrowing story of pain and suffering in which six of her own children have been ganging up to beat her mercilessly.

Emeldah Mukuka of Lusaka’s Zingalume Compound was in the Matero Local Court on Friday hoping to get help and be rescued from her children.

She has been married to her husband Oswald Menshi, 71 for 46 years and have 10 children together.

However, she complains that her husband has not been able to protect her from the six children who beat her.

“Last time, my children even broke my left arm, it is not functional now. My husband can not say a word. He does not support me or feed me, I have to move around begging for food.

“Only four of my 10 children respect me, the rest dont. And if I die, let them not come to my funeral. I just want to divorce my husband because he can neither support me nor protect me, and I also want him to help me with money to go back to the village,” said Mukula.

In this matter, Mukula sued her husband for divorce.

But in his defence, Menshi said the time when Mukula argues with her children is only when they rebuke her over her drinking habits as everytime she has money, she carelessly spends it on alcohol and even fails to take care of her family.

But Mukula refuted the allegations saying that there has never been a time or state that she failed to take care of her big family.

“For over 40 years I have taken care of you, our children and grandchildren. Your children harass me in your presence and you just watch. Sometimes, you even pretend to be sleeping while they beat me,” said Mukula.

She added that whenever she talks to her children, they respond to her saying that they never applied for them to be given birth.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga demanded for the presence of the children in court and adjourned the matter to April 19, 2024 for submission and judgment.

Alebwelelapo lyrics don’t have my name – Miles Sampa

PF president Miles Sampa has washed his hands off the K13.5 million Kalandanya debt contracted by Edgar Lungu’s PF leadership.

Sampa says his name is not mentioned in any of the songs done by the Musical ensemble in the likes of Dandy Crazy, Yo Maps, Mampi, JK, Slap D and a string of other musicians.

Yesterday, High Court Judge Charles Zulu ordered the the former ruling party to pay businessman Bwalya Kalandanya K13.5 million for the 70 campaign songs which were composed by his musicians under his record label Kalandanya music promotions, in attempts to trick the masses into re-electing Lungu on the pretext that God had chosen him to rule Zambia for the third time.

In the wake of the judgement, a debate has erupted about whether it should be Lungu’s or Sampa version of the PF to pay debt.

But Sampa wonders why the Lungu’s faction wants to be in charge when it comes to the selling of party and national assets yet when it comes to debt repayment and other liabilities they lump all the responsibilities on him.

He wondered whether the campaign choir sang about him or Lungu.

“Listen to the songs and hear properly if anywhere in the lyrics or chorus the name Miles Sampa is mentioned,” Sampa argued.

“So when it’s income to PF like sale of the Burma road land its theirs, but debt or liabilities then it’s for Miles Sampa. Listen to the songs and hear properly if anywhere in the lyrics or chorus the name Miles Sampa is mentioned,” he added.

“Anways, I am on Parliamentary duty in Kenya and upon arrival will look at the judgement to see if I or current PF SG Morgan Ngona is mentioned anywhere in the judgement at which point we will establish whether it was a personal or party debt.”

Sampa added that he will inquire from his lawyers on the next course of action and upon establishing facts, he will advise on the way forward which may include doing nothing about the debt.

Exposing Political Opportunism against President Hichilema’s Symbolic Toilet Launch and the Fight Against Misinformation

Exposing Political Opportunism against President Hichilema’s Symbolic Toilet Launch and the Fight Against Misinformation

By Catharine Mulaisho

In the aftermath of President Hakainde Hichilema’s symbolic inauguration of a toilet, the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) has shamelessly attempted to exploit the event for political mileage.

However, amidst these cynical maneuvers, it’s crucial to refocus on the core responsibility of governance: delivering tangible benefits to the people.

The President’s symbolic act must be understood within the broader context of government’s duty to provide essential services to citizens.

While it’s impractical for the President to personally launch and inspect every toilet constructed, his symbolic gesture to launch one toilet among the thousand constructed underscores the government’s commitment to improving water sanitation and hygiene facilities across the nation.

The recent cholera epidemic, which claimed the lives of numerous citizens, highlights the urgent need for proper sanitation infrastructure.

Ensuring access to adequate water and sanitation facilities isn’t just political posturing; it’s a fundamental obligation of any responsible government to safeguard public health.

As Zambia approaches the next elections, the proliferation of propaganda and misinformation is inevitable.

However, the United Party for National Development (UPND) must actively combat these falsehoods and present the truth to the public.

Instead of merely reacting, UPND should invest in a coordinated social media strategy to effectively communicate its achievements and policies.

In the face of political opportunism, UPND must remain steadfast in its dedication to serving the people and advancing the nation’s interests.

By focusing on delivering concrete results and countering false narratives, UPND can ensure that Zambia’s progress isn’t derailed by petty politicking.

President Hichilema’s symbolic toilet launch serves as a reminder of the government’s commitment to improving the lives of all Zambians.

It’s imperative that political opportunists like the United Kwacha Alliance do not distract from the crucial work being done to address the nation’s pressing challenges.

UPND must remain vigilant in defending the truth and promoting its vision for a better Zambia.

ECZ REFUSES TO CONDUCT FRESH NOMINATIONS IN GWEMBE AND KABOMPO

ECZ REFUSES TO CONDUCT FRESH NOMINATIONS IN GWEMBE AND KABOMPO

…as Socialist Party candidates still traŭmatised after gŭn point by UPND officials

Lusaka… Monday, April 15, 2024

The Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ- has declined to call for fresh nominations in Gwembe District, Chisanga Ward and Kabompo district, Chikenge ward despite evidence of electoral viōlence recorded in the by-elections.

The refusal comes after Sociality Party (SP) General Secretary Dr. Cosmas Musumali raised some concern of serious corruption, intimidation and viōlence including alleged ābdŭctions against his party candidates experienced during the nomination process.

According to a letter dated 12th April, 2024, addressed to ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro, Dr Musumali narrated how his party candidate for Luangwa District, Kaunga ward was allegedly kidnāppēd among other concerns.

In his letter, Dr Musumali further demanded that ECZ must call for fresh nominations.

“Our candidate for Luangwa District’s Kaunga ward, Maneya Mwale, who is only 22 years old was physically abŭsed, Intimidated, kidnāppēd and had a gŭn pointed at her with threats of d£āth being made by known UPND officials. These are Mr. Obvious Summerton Mwaliteta – UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson, Anderson Banda -UPND Lusaka Youth Chairperson, Kelly – UPND Luangwa District Youth Chairperson, Eddy, Cloud Tembo and Junior Zulu – UNPD members from Feira, Timothy Tembo – the younger brother to the UPND candidate in Kaunga ward,” read the letter.

“The Socialist Party therefore, demands that your office take the following collective and punitive actions in accordance with the law as cited above: Invalidate the nominations made for Chikenge Ward as well as set a new date to file fresh nominations, Invalidate the nominations made for Chisanga Ward as well as set a new date to file fresh nominations and due to the gravity of the offences committed in Chisanga Ward and Kaunga Ward, ban the UPND from participating in the by elections of those wards”.

However, in response, the commission’s Chief Electoral Officer Mr Kasaro declined to call for fresh nominations stating that they are inhibited to do so.

“We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 12th April, 2024 which was received on 15th April, 2024 and whose contents whereof have been duly noted. We regret to advise that we are unable to proceed as suggested in your letter as we are inhibited to do so after close of nominations by regulation 18 (7) of the Electoral process (General) regulations. 2016 as read together with articles 52(4) of the constitution of Zambia,” read the letter.

“We therefore advise that you seek legal redress by petitioning the local government elections tribunal within seven (7) days of Close of nomination as provided in article 52(4) of the constitution of Zambia”.

MPs feel very strongly that Speaker Mutti must be impeached – Mundubile

By Margaret Malenga(The Mast)

MPOROKOSO PF member of parliament Brian Mundubile says parliament really gets heated up, “you are talking of 156 MPs with competing political interests”.

“If you have sensitive presiding officers you will not have order in that House,” he says. “And members feel very strongly that the Speaker must be impeached for gross incompetence demonstrated on the floor of the House.”

When he featured on Phoenix FM on Friday, Mundubile said unlike cutting them short MPs must be allowed to speak.

He said the ruling should be rendered at the end to allow their points be put on record.

Mundubile said if MPs go against standing orders, guidance should be provided at the end.

“Government only changed two years ago. If you go back to our time 2016/2021, that’s the time I went into parliament first. Just get video clips of honourable Gary Nkombo, honourable Jack Mwiimbu, honourable Cornelius Mweetwa, honourable [Ephraim] Belemu, honourable [Misheck] Mutelo, you will realise that we are a very peaceful lot as a matter of fact. But because the presiding officers understood that it’s a member’s right to speak even when Cornelius Mweetwa, honourable minister, would be rebellious on the floor you saw honourable [Patrick] Matibini allowed him time to speak and only made the ruling at the end. Why? Because he has that privilege. He has that right to speak on the floor of the House. Now what you have is a total opposite. The presiding officer is able to detect what you are about to say before you even say it and says ‘don’t say it, sit down!’ That is not supposed to be,” he said. “I am there not in my individual capacity. I am there in my representative capacity. So members of my constituency have asked me to say this; and for the record, imagine I wanted to say this and I haven’t even said it, you have ruled me out before I even say it. What should go on record? What will go on record? But if you allowed me to speak to the end and everybody listened, my people in Mporokoso listened, then the presiding officer said ‘according to standing order ABCD you cannot raise that point and let me guide the House’. The Speaker always goes ‘when you have this situation this is how you deal with it’. That goes in the Hansard, it goes on record, and there is order. It is a house of order and when we say it is a house of order the order applies to both presiding officers and members of parliament. If you went to the Kenyan parliament you would be surprised. If you went to the Ugandan parliament, if you went to the Ghanaian parliament…”

Mundubile said the Zambian parliament must look at how other parliaments and their presiding officers handle the heated environment

“We have been to these parliaments together with the Speaker [Nelly Mutti] and the speaker’s committee and I would even say Madam Speaker I think we are much better than our colleagues here but they are allowed time to speak. You have seen people in parliament stand up and make their point so the Speaker waits to make a ruling at the end. That is what is supposed to be,” Mundubile

said. “You have to look at it from both sides. This is not the first parliament. Look at the other parliaments and how did presiding officers handle heated environments like that. There is got to be some allowance. You are talking of 156 MPs with competing political interests, so that place really gets heated up. If you have sensitive presiding officers you will not have order in that House.”

Meanwhile, Mundubile said the motion to impeach the Speaker is still alive and that MPs are waiting for it to be brought on the floor of the House.

“You must wonder what happened to the impeachment motion. Total lawlessness. There has been total silence on that. That motion met the threshold. A number of MPs, according to standing orders, signed the petition and we had expected that motion to be brought on the floor of the House by parliament because it is a competent motion. That motion we are still waiting for it because it qualified. They tried to come up with rules that along the way some members withdrew. There is no such provision. The moment it meets the threshold it is competent to come on the floor of the House and we are still calling upon parliament that that particular impeachment motion must still come because it met the threshold,” said

Mundubile. “If there are those members that later changed their mind, that will be reflected in the vote on the floor of the House. But as regards the competence of the motion we are still waiting for that motion to come on the floor of the House. Members feel very strongly that the Speaker must be impeached. The

Speaker should be impeached for gross incompetence demonstrated on the floor of the House and that still remains the position.”

Argentina president Javier Milei blames work pressure for splitting from ‘lioness’ girlfriend Fatima Florez

0

The love life of Argentinian president Javier Milei has taken a new twist after he blamed work pressures for a split from his ‘lioness’ celebrity girlfriend.

The politician was last seen together with Argentinian actress and comedian, Fatima Florez, 43, in Miami on Wednesday last week as riots broke out on the streets of Buenos Aires in protest at public spending cuts in a country where 40 percent of the people live in poverty.

The couple boasted of their relationship after going public in July last year with Milei, 53, insisting ‘I am very in love’ with her.

But he said their conflicting schedules had placed too much strain on them as he announced the end of their relationship over the weekend.

‘As a result of the overwhelming professional success that Fatima, of whom I am extremely proud, is experiencing, she has received numerous job offers to work both in the United States and in Europe,’ he wrote on social media.

Argentina president Javier Milei blames work pressure for splitting from

‘This, added to the complex task that I am facing today and that the Argentines have entrusted me with, has led us to live apart, making it impossible for us to have the relationship as a couple that we would like to have, despite how much we love each other.

‘That is why we decided to end our relationship and maintain a bond of friendship given how much we feel for each other and how much we love, respect and admire each other.’

Florez has yet to respond publicly to the announcement .

In December 2022, two months before she separated from her then-husband of 22 years, they appeared in a popular talk show.

During the interview, Fatima playfully told the politician: ‘You are too alone for your important role.’

Two months later they came back to the same talk show and Florez explained: ‘We started talking on Instagram and we started seeing each other much later.

‘It came very naturally. It was very little by little. I was in Uruguay, working, and we started writing to each other.’

Also in the interview, Argentina’s new president said: ‘I am very in love’. The pair described their love as ‘exotic’.

Fatima then went on to explain how she officially separated from her husband on her birthday in February – likening it to the historic Battle of San Lorenzo in 1813.

Florez said in January that she was ‘hooked on Javier’.

‘Even when we are far apart, we are very close,’ she said

‘And when we are close, we are close, we are explosive, explosive, you know what I mean?’

He has taken bizarre stances on a range of issues, including the organ trade. The president said he was in favor of allowing the sale of organs between private parties, claiming: ‘it’s just another market.’

‘If women can have control over their bodies, why not everybody else,’ he said.

He also says he has no issue with sex work being legal, previously saying: ‘I don’t see anything wrong with paying for sex. It’s a free transaction.’

David Beckham ‘wins £240m legal fight against fraudsters selling knockoff version of his clothing, jewellery and perfumes’

David Beckham has won a massive £240million legal battle against several counterfeiters who were selling fake versions of his designer gear online.

The former football legend, 48, who is the director of DB Ventures had been seeking a staggering £1.58billion from 150 internet sellers.

Case files revealed the fraudsters were selling the fake goods on sites including Amazon, eBay, and Etsy by firms or individuals based in China or elsewhere in Asia.

These items consisted of designer clothing, footwear, perfume, hair, and body products, posters, footballs, video games, eyewear, jewellery, and watches.

The complaint said: ‘Their sale poses a real threat to DBV’s brand, and affects the sustainability of its business.

‘It also affects individuals and companies who unwittingly purchase them.’

The paperwork filed in the US also claimed the dodgy sales ‘erode the brand’s reputation’ and cost the company ‘considerable lost sales and harm’.

But now after almost three months since initiating legal action, Beckham has won the case, according to The Sun.

Last summer a temporary injunction and asset freeze were granted to Becks, which have now been made permanent by the judge.

Additionally, DB Venture’s motion for a default judgment against 44 defendants was granted, awarding £8,000 for each infringement.

However, the total award of £352,000 is significantly lower than the £ 240 million sought by Beckham’s team from the 15 firms collectively.

The former England captain will be happy to know that the counterfeiters are required to stop selling and forfeit any profits they accumulated.

DB Ventures enlisted the expertise of trademark specialists, The Sladkus Law Group, to put an end to the illicit sales.

In the filing, partner Jeffrey Sladkus explained that tracking the sites was challenging due to their lack of accurate address or phone number information.

He emphasised that legal threats were the sole effective method to halt their activities.

Beckham allegedly sold a 55 per cent stake in the firm to Authentic Brands in 2022 for £200million, despite the company’s profitable turnover doubling to £72million in the same year.

The company owns fashion brands Juicy Couture and Forever 21.

A source previously told the publication: ‘Authentic Brands want to crack down on people making cash from flogging goods with David’s name attached to it.

‘David and the team pride themselves on the quality of what they sell, including their clothes and fragrances, and they don’t want people being unwittingly ripped off when they buy a fake.’

Doctor found guilty of poisoning patients by putting dangerous drugs in IV bags

0

A doctor in Texas has been found guilty of injecting heart-stopping poison into IVs at his former medical clinic in North Dallas.

FOX 4 in Dallas reported that a 12-person jury found Dr. Raynaldo Ortiz guilty on all 10 counts after nearly seven hours of deliberation.

When the verdict was read, Ortiz showed no emotion for the crimes he had committed.

As a result of Ortiz’s action, several patients suffered cardiac emergencies and Dr. Melanie Kaspar died after using one of the IV bags, prosecutors said.

Federal prosecutors said the anesthesiologist committed the shocking crimes at Baylor Scott and White Surgicare North Dallas in retaliation for a medical misconduct probe.

A criminal complaint accused Ortiz of injecting nerve-blocking and bronchodilation drugs into patient IV bags.

Surveillance video showed the doctor placing an IV bag in a stainless steel warmer outside an operating room on Aug. 19, 2022.

Minutes later, another staffer took the bag, and a patient soon after reportedly suffered a heart attack.

Ortiz’s colleague, beloved anesthesiologist Melanie Kaspar, took a contaminated IV bag home on June 21 to rehydrate due to an illness.

Almost immediately after inserting the IV into her vein, she suffered a serious cardiac event and died.

An autopsy showed she was fatally poisoned by bupivacaine, a numbing agent that the Justice Department said “is rarely abused” but used to alleviate pain during surgery.

“There’s no closure. My best friend is gone,” John Kaspar, Dr. Melanie Kaspar’s widower reportedly said shortly after the verdict. “I don’t think he ever looked me in the eye… It’s almost like you have so many emotions you can’t sift them out. You get flooded.”

The station reported that the witnesses called to the stand during the trial included the anesthesiologist who discovered the bags were tainted, John Kaspar, and a teen who suffered cardiac arrest during nose surgery.

The incidents first began two days after Oritz was notified of a disciplinary inquiry against him over his handling of a medical emergency.

Other doctors noted he complained the center was trying to “crucify” him.

FOX 4 reported that there were 13 patients between May and August 2022 who experienced similar cardiac emergencies, though prosecutors only charged the doctor with causing bodily injury to four of the patients in August.

A judge had ordered Ortiz be held before trial after prosecutors argued that he was a danger to the community by citing, in part, a 2015 incident in which he shot his neighbor’s dog in retaliation for the woman helping his then-girlfriend obtain a restraining order against him after a domestic violence incident.

Ortiz was convicted of four counts of tampering with consumer products resulting in serious bodily injury, one count of tampering with a consumer product, and five counts of intentional adulteration of a drug, prosecutors said.

Ortiz is expected to be sentenced in two to three months in prison.

US denies Iran’s claim that it gave three days warning before launching missiles

0

The US has denied claims from Iran, Turkey, Jordan and Iraq that Iran warned the US says before its drone and missile attack on Israel, saying Iran was aiming to cause significant damage with its 350 missiles barrage.

Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles on Saturday April 13 in a retaliatory strike after a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Syria.

Most of the drones and missiles were downed before reaching Israeli territory, though a young girl was critically injured.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Sunday that Iran gave neighbouring countries and Israel’s ally the United States 72 hours’ notice it would launch the strikes.

U

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said it had spoken to both Washington and Tehran before the attack, adding it had conveyed messages as an intermediary to be sure reactions were proportionate.

“Iran said the reaction would be a response to Israel’s attack on its embassy in Damascus and that it would not go beyond this. We were aware of the possibilities. The developments were not a surprise,” said a Turkish diplomatic source.

Two Iraqi sources, including a government security adviser and a security official, said Iran had used diplomatic channels to inform Baghdad about the attack at least three days before it happened.

The exact timing of the attack was not disclosed at that point, but was passed to Iraqi security and military authorities hours before the strikes, allowing Baghdad to close its airspace and avoid fatal accidents.

“The government clearly understood from the Iranian officials that the U.S. military in Iraq was also aware of the attack in advance,” said the Iraqi security official.

Also, a Jordanian official said Iran had summoned Arab envoys in Tehran on Wednesday to inform them of their intention to carry out an attack, though it did not specify the timing.

Asked if Iran had also given details about the targets and kind of weapons to be used, the Jordanian source did not respond directly but indicated that that was the case.

An Iranian source briefed on the matter said Iran had informed the U.S. through diplomatic channels that included Qatar, Turkey and Switzerland about the scheduled day of the attack, saying it would be conducted in a manner to avoid provoking a response.

But a new Reuters report says that a senior official in U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration denied Amirabdollahian’s statement, saying Washington did have contact with Iran through Swiss intermediaries but did not get notice 72 hours in advance.

“That is absolutely not true,” the official said. “They did not give a notification, nor did they give any sense of … ‘these will be the targets, so evacuate them.'”

Tehran sent the United States a message only after the strikes began and the intent was to be “highly destructive” said the official, adding that Iran’s claim of a widespread warning may be an attempt to reduce criticism at home due to the lack of any major damage from the attack.

“We received a message from the Iranians as this was ongoing, through the Swiss. This was basically suggesting that they were finished after this, but it was still an ongoing attack. So that was (their) message to us,” the U.S. official said.

The attack with drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles risked causing major casualties and escalating the conflict.

However, Israel is still weighing its response and will “exact the price from Iran in the fashion and timing that is right for us”, Israeli minister Benny Gantz said on Sunday.

Everton submits appeal against their second points deduction

0

Everton has officially launched an appeal against their second-point deduction for violating the Premier League’s financial regulations, as reported by BBC Radio Merseyside.

Previously, the Toffees received a 10-point deduction, which was later reduced to six following an appeal in February, covering the three-year period leading up to 2021–22.

The ongoing appeal process must be finalized by May 24th, just five days after the conclusion of the final Premier League match.

Currently, Sean Dyche’s team occupies the 16th position in the table, holding a two-point buffer above the relegation zone.

Facing Chelsea in a league match on Monday (kick-off at 20:00 BST), Everton aims to distance themselves further from the threat of relegation.

The Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) allow clubs to incur losses of up to £105 million over three years.

However, an independent commission discovered that Everton exceeded this limit by £16.6 million for the period spanning 2022-23.

Additionally, Everton could potentially face another points deduction related to interest costs associated with the construction of their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Nevertheless, resolution on this matter is unlikely before the conclusion of the current season.

24 March 2023: The Premier League refers Everton to an independent commission over an alleged breach of financial fair play rules for the three-year accounting period ending with the 2021–22 season.

17 November 2023: Everton receives an immediate 10-point deduction after being found to have breached the Premier League’s financial rules.

15 January: Everton and Nottingham Forest are charged for breaches of the league’s profit and sustainability rules. The hearing has to be concluded within 12 weeks of this date, which is April 8.

26 February: Everton’s first penalty for breaching Premier League financial rules is reduced from 10 points to six after an appeal.

25 March: A hearing for Everton’s second charge, relating to a three-year accounting period ending in 2022–23, takes place this week.

8 April: Everton receives a second-point deduction of two points.

15 April: Everton lodges a formal appeal over the second point deduction.

19 May: The final day of the Premier League season, when Everton visit Arsenal (16:00 BST).

24 May: The latest possible date for an appeal hearing to be concluded.

Media call on Biden, Trump to participate in US 2024 presidential debates

Twelve news groups have asked Joe Biden and Donald Trump to have debates. They said debates have been a big part of every election since 1976.

Trump didn’t join the debates to become the Republican candidate, and now he wants to debate the Democratic president in 2020. But the Democratic president hasn’t said if he will debate Trump again.

Even though they haven’t been officially invited, the news organizations said it’s okay for each campaign to announce that they will take part in the three presidential and one vice-presidential forums organized by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates.

“Americans all believe that this election is very important, even though people have different opinions. ” The organizations said this together in a statement. “In that situation, nothing is as good as the candidates debating with each other in front of the American people about their ideas for our country’s future. ”

ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, PBS, NBC, NPR, and The Associated Press all agreed to the letter.

Biden and Trump argued two times in 2020. The third debate was called off because Trump, who was the president at the time, got sick and didn’t want to have the debate online.

On March 8, Biden was asked if he would agree to debate Trump. He said he would only do it if Trump behaved well. During the first 2020 debate, the president was annoyed by his opponent and even told him to be quiet at one point.

Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, who work for Trump’s campaign, wrote a letter saying that President Trump is ready to debate at any time and any place. They think the debates should start now.

They mentioned the seven debates that happened in 1858 between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas in Illinois. They said that today’s America also deserves the same kind of debates.

The Republican National Committee decided in 2022 that they will not be part of debates sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates anymore. The Trump campaign has not said it would follow those rules, but they did have some conditions. The people in charge of the campaign said that the commission picked a moderator, Chris Wallace from Fox News, who is clearly against Trump. They want to make sure that the debates organized by the commission are fair and neutral.

The Trump campaign is asking for the schedule to be changed because they think a lot of people will have already cast their votes by September. October 16thOn October 1st. On September 9th, the commission set the dates for three debates.

The Biden campaign didn’t have anything to say about the news organizations’ letter because they referred to the president’s earlier statement. The Trump campaign did not respond right away.

On Saturday, Trump had a rally in northeastern Pennsylvania. There were two stands on the stage – one for him to give a speech, and the other to show that Biden didn’t want to debate him. The second stand had a sign that said, “Anytime. ”

During his speech, Trump looked to his right and pointed to the second lectern.

“We have something small for him,” he said, pointing to it. “Hey, look at the stage. I want Crooked Joe Biden to debate me whenever and wherever. ” OverWe need to have a discussion because our country is heading in the wrong direction, and we need to do it soon, even though it’s a little early. We need to tell the American people what is happening.

C-SPAN, NewsNation, and Univision also want debates to happen. Only USA Today newspaper said something about it.

Definitely, the TV and radio stations could benefit from the energy and excitement that debates can bring. TV news has fewer people watching it now compared to when the 2020 campaign was happening. This is because more people are canceling their cable subscriptions and the pandemic also made people more interested in news four years ago.

There were no discussions between the Democratic candidates for president this time. Trump’s decision not to take part in the Republican debates made people less interested in them.

World leaders beg Israel not to attack Iran in retaliation

0

Leaders from around the world are telling Israel not to fight back after Iran attacked with many drones, missiles, and cruise missiles.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron spoke to the BBC on Monday about the United Kingdom. It means that the US doesn’t want to attack back, and France is going to try to stop Israel from making things worse.

Iran attacked Israel on Saturday, less than two weeks after Israel’s suspected attack in Syria that killed two Iranian generals. This was the first time Iran has directly attacked Israel, even though the two countries have been enemies since 1979.

According to an Israeli military spokesperson, almost all of the drones and missiles sent by Iran were stopped.

Israel and Iran have been heading towards a conflict while Israel has been fighting against Hamas in Gaza for six months. The fighting began when two aggressive groups, supported by Iran, attacked across the border. A bomb killed 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped 250 others.

The attack by Israel in Gaza has caused a lot of damage and resulted in the death of over 33,700 people, as reported by local health officials.

The leader of Germany has asked Israel to help reduce tension.

German leader Olaf Scholz wants Israel to help reduce tension in the Middle East after Iran attacked them.

Scholz said in Shanghai that Iran needs to stop its aggressive behavior.

He was asked if he will try to stop Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from using military force to respond to the attack on Saturday night. He said many people agree that Israel did a really good job at defending against the attack with help from its allies.

He said, “This is a success that maybe shouldn’t be wasted. ” So we recommend that people help to calm things down on their own.
Germany strongly supports and is a close friend of Israel.

African leaders want Israel and Iran to stop fighting.

A few African governments are asking Israel and Iran not to make the conflict worse.

Iran attacked Israel and it’s a big threat to world peace. But Israel should be careful in how they respond, said President William Ruto of Kenya on social media.

South Africa’s government said on Sunday that the sides fighting in the conflict need to be very careful and not do anything to make the situation worse in a delicate area.

Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry asked Israel and Iran to think about the universal promise to solve conflicts peacefully.

Man detained following alleged stabbing at Sydney church

0

Australian police say they arrested a man after a bishop and three people from the church were stabbed in Sydney. No one is seriously hurt.

The incident happened on Monday evening during a church service that was being shown on TV, according to the police. The Assyrian church shows its services on the internet.

A video on social media shows a man in black clothes walking up to a religious leader at a church called Christ the Good Shepherd. He seems to stab the leader many times in the head and upper body.

People in the church are yelling and running to help the bishop. The church’s website said the bishop’s name is Mar Mari Emmanuel.

The NSW Ambulance helped a man in his 50s who had lots of cuts and took him to the hospital. They also treated three other people at the scene for one or more cuts.

“The police are coming in a big group and they want people to stay away from the area,” the police said. Many people came to the church and hospital and stood together in a group.

Chris Minns, the leader of New South Wales, said on social media that the scenes were upsetting and asked people to stay calm and support each other. Religious leaders also were surprised and expressed their sympathy.

A lot of Australians feel really surprised and upset after one person stabbed six people to death in a crowded Sydney shopping mall on Saturday. Many more people were also hurt.

It was not clear right away if the two stabbings were related.

Christ the Good Shepherd was getting ready for Palm Sunday, which is coming up later this month.

Last year, the bishop was on TV and in the newspapers all over the country.

In May 2023, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation shared a video about a campaign that was mean to hurt the LGBTQ+ community. In the video, a bishop said that if a man calls himself a woman, he is not a man or a woman, but an “it”. Since you are a machine, I will not call you a person. It’s your decision, not mine.

ISRAEL SPENT US$1 BILLION TO SHOOT DOWN IRANIAN DRONES COSTING US$1 MILLION!

ISRAEL SPENT US$1 BILLION TO SHOOT DOWN IRANIAN DRONES COSTING US$1 MILLION!

Israel’s interception of hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones on Sunday has cost Tel Aviv around $1.35 billion (up to 5 billion shekels), Israeli media reported.

Meanwhile, the Shahed 101 or delta winged Shahed 131 that Iran used each cost about $20,000 (£15,700) or slightly more. Implicitly, Iran spent not more than $1 million to build the drones shot down at the cast of US$1 billion. Iran has millions of such drones. If a swam of 10,000 drones is deployed, Israel lacks capacity to intercept the drones.

On Sunday, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Brig. Gen. Ram Aminach, the former financial advisor to the Israeli chief of staff, is wuoted as saying that “the cost of defence last night was estimated at between 4-5 billion shekels ($1.08-1.35 billion).”

The estimate–by Yehoshua Kalisky, a senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies, a think tank in Tel Aviv–takes into account expenses associated with intercepting half of the Iranian missiles and drones, including the use of the David’s Sling air-defense system, and also takes into account the cost of keeping 100 Israeli warplanes in the air for six hours, including fuel and weapons.

Iran fired scores of drones and cruise and ballistic missiles on Israel in an unprecedented attack against its archfoe.

Among the drones used in the April 13 assault, according to Iranian state-run media, were the Iranian-made Shahed-136 and Shahed-131s.

Are The Drones Effective?

The Shahed-136 and Shahed-131 “kamikaze” drones are cheap but effective, according to experts. Built with off-the-shelf components, the drones have attracted derisive monikers such as “lawnmowers” and “mopeds” due to the sound of their engines in flight.

Russia has used the Shahed drone to attack Ukraine, such as the strike in Kyiv in November 2023.

But the low-flying drones, which are maneuvered to crash into their target, have proven themselves capable of hitting their mark both in terms of military effectiveness and cost.

“It is capable of extracting or delivering attrition and damage when launched,” said Samuel Bendett of the Virginia-based Center for Naval Analyses.

John Krzyzaniak, a research associate at the Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control, said Iranian drones like the Shahed-136s can “wreak havoc” if fired in large numbers.

Earlier on Sunday, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz quoted the Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari as saying that about 350 missiles and drones were launched from Iran at Israel, most of which were intercepted.

He confirmed that minor damage had occurred at the Nevatim air base in Beersheba while “99 percent of the threats against Israel were intercepted.”

“25 out of 30 cruise missiles were intercepted, and of the more than 120 ballistic missiles, only a few of them penetrated Israeli territory and landed at the Nevatim air base,” he added.

Childish Gambino Reveals Plans For Two New Albums, Debuts Unreleased Music

0

Childish Gambino has debuted new music and revealed plans for not one, but two new albums.

The artist otherwise known as Donald Glover announced a surprise GILGA Radio livestream on Sunday (April 14) as part of his new album rollout.

“GILGA Radio tonight @ 11pm pst,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) earlier that day. “live streamed on instagram @donaldglover.”

When a fan asked if it would include new music, Gambino replied: “of course. its a rollout dummy.”

During the stream, Childish Gambino confirmed recent speculation that he’s rereleasing his 2020 album 3.15.20 mixed and mastered under the title Atavista.

While he didn’t say when that will be coming out, he did share that a music video for “Little Foot, Big Foot” — originally titled “35.31” — directed by Atlanta collaborator Hiro Murai is set to drop in the next few weeks.

After Atavista, Glover will release his final album under his rap moniker: Bando Stone & the New World. That project will double up as the soundtrack for a film of the same name that he’s working on.

According to a Reddit thread, the “3005” rapper gave fans a preview of what’s to come by playing a handful of new songs — including one called “Human Sacrifice” — and an updated version of “35.31” a.k.a. “Little Foot, Big Foot” featuring Young Nudy.

“My fans are great and have been so patient and are starving — this album is for you guys,” he reportedly said during the broadcast.

Childish Gambino previously hinted at new music late last year and admitted he doesn’t mean to be cryptic when it comes to his rap career.

“I feel like it’ll be clear sooner rather than later,” he said in an interview with Complex when asked if any new material would dropping soon. “It’d be better for people to just tune in, I suppose.

“But I’m trying harder to not be cryptic. Tyler, [The Creator] is always like, ‘You’re so cryptic.’ But I’m like, ‘I’m really not.’ I just like suspense, I guess. I think it makes stuff better. But that’s just me.”

Then in December, he announced that “another album” would be out “soon.”

A Lusaka spiritual husband Mr Mulwanda has allegedly returned home broke and useless like an army worm.

Sources say the on and off marriage that has been operating like nothing but zesco’s high quality loadshedding has once again kicked off after the weird strange Yo-Bally of a husband Mr Mulwanda returned home a few days ago like a prodical son.

Exactly 1 month ago Lusaka bleaching and Stomach Reduction scientist packed and chased away her weird Yo-Bally of a Husband Mr Mulwanda out of her house after a Car misunderstanding

Mr Mulwanda a low Grade coloured who looks like the person who received pig demons In the jesus movie was kicked out of his own matrimonial house like a common bingo by his wife aunt Milly after he took her son’s Car.

Aunty Milly said she was tired with Mr Mulwanda’s Spongebob behaviour and she Cleary stated like a UPND serious government official that she won’t allow him to emotionally black mail her this time around or even touch her overies.

But sources have confirmed Mr Mulwanda is back in Aunt Milly’s life once again like Cholera, a check on aunt Milly’s Facebook page, we saw a Mr Mulwanda marinating aunt Milly With sweet words like hungry lion chicken pieces ready to be eaten.

Aunty Milly has been in this ON and Off low quality Loadshedding kachasu like of a marriage with Mr Mulwanda for almost 6 years and despite the marriage being on and off like the loadshedding that is starting tomorrow, she keeps getting pregnant.

The couple has been married for close to 6 years and they have reduced the highly respected Godly institution of marriage to the level of nothing but spongebob-squidward games, this is a marriage where you borrow your step son’s car!!! , they chase you you sleep on the streets and the come back like nothing happened.

You are married as a husband but you also a dependant, it’s like those marriages where your wife tells you to leave the bedroom because she Wants to dress up.

REAPONSE TO ECL STATEMENT AT REFORMED CHURCH IN ZAMBIA IN CHIPATA

By Mark Simuuwe

Former Zambia’s Republican President Edgar Lungu says leaders must not tell lies after which he made a contribution of K10,000 at RCZ in Chipata .

ECL is currently trending as the noisiest former president in the world .

A day ago in Chipata , ECL made reference to the current leadership in Zambia .

RESPONSE :

1. ECL is right by saying leaders must not tell the truth as he did when he lied that HH committed treason in Mongu and maliciously incarcerated him for 127 days and arrested him 15times for no reason ;

2. ECL should have taken this opportunity to repent for causing so much ethnic hegemony after firing or retiring in national interest some over 3000 civil servants that came from other regions ;

3. He should repent for assuming together with his then Vice President
that UPND were the ones who set City Market on fire during his tenure , had them arrested for no reason yet he knew exactly who did that ;God hates those who tell lies ;

4. ECL should have told the truth who the real gassers at his time were and why some of the PF members and officials were arrested for the same and later released in Chingola ;let ECL tell us who Kongolo (Witchdoctor) was in his entourage, as cited by President Fresher Siwale on Prime TV ;

5. ECL should tell the truth on why he had over 3000 ghost workers on government payroll and where the money the ghost workers were paid went ;God does not like thieves !

6. ECL must tell the truth on why some of his associates have forefeited properties to the state; God does not like thieves !

7. ECL must tell us the real price of the fire trucks during the controversial fire tenders ;God does not like thieves !

8. ECL must must tell us the real price of Ambulances that cost over $ 288,000 beyond the market price at his time ;God does not like thieves !

9. ECL must tell the truth on what happened to the Mukula logs that were seized and the real price they were sold at since the price indicated in China was different from what government in Zambia declared ; God does not like liars ;

10. Let ECL also repent for the bloodshed he caused under his leadership which saw Nsama Nsama , Joseph Kaunda , Mapenzi Chibulo , among others to die ;God does not like murderers ;

11. ECL does not know why he was voted out even after he established Christians for Lungu; God does not like those who abuse His name for selfish personal things ;

12. ECL must repent from his barbaric bloody leadership that saw what looked like state sponsored terrorism in which citizens who wore opposition regalia were met with machetes , guns and insults .

Conclusion:

ECL must appreciate the peace he is enjoying such that he is even able to go round churches to worship . At his time politicians were attacked and tear-gassed even during church gatherings at times . Many citizens may recall the tear-gassing of Dr Nevers Mumba in a church in Eastern Province.

Today , ECL is in all the churches deceiving congregants thinking they do not know him well . ECL should heal from the loss and must learn to let go and accept that he lost elections. It was time for citizens to reject him and he must understand that it is his poor and bad leadership which made citizens get rid of him .

Today , he can’t still see that only those who deceived him that he was going to win in 2021 are still deceiving him .

His bitterness and pain for the loss is not good for his health. High BP is real , the earlier he lets go the better even for his health .

Let him also admonish those extorting his money that it is time for him to retire and let go ; he must allow himself to remain a statesman and rest .

REPEAL BAD LAWS- Fred M’membe

REPEAL BAD LAWS

There is a role for the government in keeping people safe from actual criminals. But some of our laws, like the public order Act, don’t keep people safe. The public order Act punishes peaceful meetings, protests, demonstrations or rallies and other activities unlikely to be performed with criminal intent.

The absence of criminal intent should be taken more seriously by our politicians, legislators and other leaders. With a law like the public order Act which punishes you without you having intent to commit a crime on our statute books, the old adage that “ignorance of the law is no excuse” no longer makes sense. Therefore, government should regularly repeal laws, like the public order Act, we no longer need. Although there are some exceptions, criminal intent or mens rea is an essential element of most crimes. Under the common law, all crimes consisted of an act carried out with a guilty mind. In modern society, criminal intent can be the basis for fault, and punishment according to intent is a core premise of criminal justice.

Crimes that have an “evil” intent are malum in se and subject the defendant to the most severe punishment. Crimes that lack the intent element are less common and are usually graded lower, as either misdemeanors or infractions. Malice aforethought is a special common-law intent designated for only one crime: murder. The definition of malice aforethought is “intent to kill.” Society considers intent to kill the most evil of all intents, so malice aforethought crimes generally mandate the most severe of punishments, including the death penalty in jurisdictions that allow for it.

To be charged under the public order Act there has been no consideration for criminal intent.
Criminal intent is a necessary component of a “conventional” crime and involves a conscious decision on the part of one party to injure or deprive another. It is one of three categories of “mens rea,” the basis for the establishment of guilt in a criminal case. There are multiple shades of criminal intent that may be applied in situations ranging from outright premeditation to spontaneous action.

It is possible to establish criminal intent even when a crime is not premeditated. Individuals who commit a crime spontaneously may still understand that their actions will cause harm to another party and contravene existing criminal law. In other words, an individual that takes or withholds action with the knowledge that such behaviour will lead to the commission of a crime can be said to possess criminal intent.

Clearly, whichever angle one looks at, the public order Act is very bad law which must be done away, repealed and not amended.

Kidnapped South African Based, Zim Businessman Found Dèad Despite Payment Of Ransom

KIDNAPPED SOUTH AFRICAN BASED, ZIM BUSINESSMAN FOUND DÈAD DESPITE PAYMENT OF RANSOM

Kidnapped Zimbabwean businessman Evans Katumba was found dead after remaining missing despite R1.5M ransom demand from the kidnappers.

South African authorities were currently probing the case of Evans Katumba, a Zimbabwean businessman based in Durban, who remained missing despite a ransom payment of R1.5 million to his kidnappers.

Reports indicated that Katumba, who had been residing in South Africa for the past decade, was abducted by assailants armed with AK47 rifles at a nightclub he had recently acquired on March 24.

As detailed, following Katumba’s disappearance, his captors initially demanded a ransom of R2.5 million. However, his family and acquaintances managed to gather R1.5 million, intending to drop it in Ballito, a coastal town near Durban, as per the kidnappers’ instructions.

Despite the ransom drop being executed, Katumba’s abductors did not uphold their promise to release him.

This development has prompted a thorough investigation by South African law enforcement into the circumstances surrounding Katumba’s continued captivity leading to the discovery of his lifeless body.

“They demanded that one person should bring the money, and that police should not be involved. The money was dropped at an open field on the outskirts of Ballito, about 45 minutes from Durban.

“The kidnappers said they would release him after an hour, but that was the last communication they made,” a friend said.

SA Police and crack unit, The Hawks, are now reportedly investigating the matter.

Evans Katumba, previously a fuel station worker who transitioned to become a fuel supplier, was allegedly the victim of an attempted hijacking in December. His involvement in acquiring Yugo, the nightclub from where he was later abducted, is believed to have attracted the attention of questionable individuals in Durban.

Yugo was one of the clubs where the late rapper AKA was scheduled to perform before his tragic death last year.

“A week after he bought Yugo, there was an attempt to hijack him while driving his G63. He was stopped by a police car and an officer came to talk to him, before returning to the police car purportedly to check something.

“While Vardy waited for the officer to come back, suddenly there were these random people trying to open the doors and he sped away,” a friend told ZimLive.

“He went to the United Kingdom and came back in early March to begin rebranding his club. Around the same time he also bought a Ferrari and an Amarok.

“He kept on receiving phone calls from people saying he must hire them as security and some saying he is a foreigner and can’t own a club in Durban. You have all these people from the underworld wanting a piece of it, some saying can we work with you, can we partner with you or can we do this or that.

FAZ PRESIDENT’S CORNER: Let’s Keep Kalaba in Our Prayers

Sombre salutations from our football corner as we keep our ears to the ground over our hospitalized former Chipolopolo captain Rainford Kalaba. As almost everyone in the game already knows, Kalaba is admitted at the University Teaching Hospital Intensive Care Unit after being involved in a road traffic accident. Since his admission on Saturday, we have kept tabs on the situation and remain hopeful that he will eventually pull through.

The FAZ entourage led by vice president Justin Mumba and general secretary Reuben Kamanga were on hand straight from a tour of duty in Choma to see Kalaba hours after he had been admitted at the University Teaching Hospital on Saturday. On Sunday evening, we were able to visit Kalaba with the general secretary and other secretariat staff and were made aware of the tremendous efforts the medical staff are putting to help our champion recover. The medics are no doubt doing their best to ensure that he receives the best possible care and support. We are working closely with the authorities both the ministry of health and sports in making sure create the best possible environment for our champion to receive due care and treatment.

Our appeal to everyone is to keep the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winning star in their prayers. On a sad note, we were taken aback by the ‘breaking news’ syndrome that characterized the announcement of his hospitalization. Despite our good efforts to ensure that due care was taken before making any major announcement on his health status, the runaway social media train had run ahead of everyone. We salute the police, with whom we were in touch with all the time that provided an accurate and timely update. There is no substitute for professionalism in such delicate moments and we had to rely on the police and health authorities before making any announcement. We are also grateful to the management at the University Teaching Hospital and family that were on hand to provide credible information along the way. We are mindful at all times of the family whose right to privacy deserves to be respected. We appeal to everyone to leave the dissemination of information to the authorities and the family.

On the field of play, we had exciting ABSA Cup quarterfinals match ups that saw Muza, Kabwe Warriors, Nchanga Rangers and Red Arrows qualify to the semifinals. It was good to see a team from the lower division making it to the last four of competition adding an exciting touch. We salute the hundreds of fans that turned up on both days to fill up Nkoloma Stadium. The fans are the lifeblood of football and we are forever grateful for their support. A big thank you to the sponsors, ABSA Bank for making this year’s tournament even bigger. We are grateful to SuperSport and Zamtel who are additional partners that have added colour to the ABSA Cup.

Finally, our under-17 girls will be kick starting their two legged third round FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Uganda. We host Uganda on May 12 in the first leg and wind up away. Having convincingly beaten Tanzania in the last round, we will be looking to pick up from where we left. We will be liaising with the technical bench to ensure that our preparations are befitting of our ambitions and targets.

May I sign off by thanking the delegates at the Southern Province annual general meeting that had a seamless assembly. We were also privileged to have interacted and conferred with provincial minister Credo Nanjuwa and area member of parliament Cornelius Mweetwa. It was a fulfilling engagement for the good of our game.

Have a productive week.

DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY FROM YOUR LEADERS AND OPPOSE LIES- ECL PRODS ZAMBIANS.

…..As he calls on the church to commit the country to prayers while navigating the numerous challenges….

CHIPATA, 14-04-2024 (SMART EAGLES)

Sixth Republican President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu has urged Zambians from all walks of life to begin to demand accountability from their leaders who rely on political deceit to address the social economic challenges they are currently facing.

Addressing congregants who gathered to worship at The Reformed Church in Zambia Chipata Main congregation in Chipata District of the Eastern Province yesterday , the Former Head of State reiterated the importance of everyone to be seeking and speaking the truth, echoing the teachings of Christ.

“Let us freely seek the truth, for it is the truth that shall set us free. We must continue to speak whether as leaders, politicians, or men of faith, we serve the same people who are entitled to the truth” Dr Lungu stated.

The former Head of State highlighted the detrimental impact of raging falsehoods on the country, drawing parallels from the breakdown of trust within families when parents resort to dishonesty.

Furthermore, Dr Lungu urged the church to pray for politicians across the country to overcome the pervasive spirit of telling lies every time they are called to account.

“We must stop telling lies. Pray for us, that chimuzimu cha wenye chichoke. Ma wenye yapaka!. Let us be resolute in seeking the truth, for it is the ultimate liberator” President Lungu said.

President Lungu, whose MwaUKA greeting elicited the response “Unga wadula, njala muma nyumba,” underscored the need for the church to continue speaking for the people of Zambia without fear or favor.

And gospel Minister and preacher, Joe Munyoki of the RCZ Chipata Main congregation emphasized the need for all who lead people at any level to do so in truth and honesty.

He also restated the importance of embracing the teachings of Jesus Christ, who proclaimed that “He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through him”

The Former President was in Eastern province for a private family visit and took time to pray and worship at Reformed Church in Zambia, a church that is rooted in his family and childhood life.

LOAD SHEDDING MAY COLLAPSE MORE BUSINESSES

LOAD SHEDDING MAY COLLAPSE MORE BUSINESSES

….already a lot of small businesses are struggling to thrive during this load shedding, says ZUPED

Lusaka… Monday April 15, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The Zambians for Peace Unity and Development (ZUPED) anticipates an increase in the collapse of small businesses due to the continued load shedding being implemented by power utility company, Zesco Ltd.

ZUPED President Ronnie Jere says his organization has interacted with a number of small business owners who have complained that the current load shedding is negatively impacting their businesses.

Mr Jere told Smart Eagles via telephone that not all small business holders can manage to invest in alternative sources of energy and equipment to support their businesses.

Mr Jere has also observed that the staggered four hours of load management at least helped small business holders to do their businesses compared to the 8 hours.

The ZUPED President said the four hours staggered schedule gave room to businesses to either work in the morning or afternoon depending on the schedule.

“Zesco Ltd yesterday announced that they will be reinstating an 8-hour load shedding schedule to enhance stability and predictability in power management across Lusaka, but did they interact with small business holders to arrive at this decision? For example, during the four hour load shedding power can go at 6hrs and be restored around 10hrs and someone can work up to 18hrs when power will be gone. Now with this 8hrs load shedding, power goes at 12hrs and restored around 20hrs making it almost impossible for them to do business,” he submitted.

“People in business need a breather for them to make money. Things are hard in this country, the cost of living is way to high for the majority to cope up. The government at this point should be looking at means of creating an enabling environment for the business community to survive.”

Mr Jere said most businesses depend on reliable power supply for them to conduct their businesses smoothly.

He wondered how some businesses will survive having to operate only for about four hours in a day saying this will hugely affect their businesses.
