. . . I’ll continue being the main fuel supplier …
AGRO FUEL managing director Shashkant Patel has vowed that for as long as the United Party for National Development (UPND) continues to be in power, he will be the main petroleum supplier in the country despite selling the commodity at an exorbitant price.
Patel has told his close associates that he did too much for the UPND when the party was in opposition and will, therefore, ensure that he is the country’s main supplier of petroleum products.
“Shashi’s arrogance won’t end. Despite all the public outcry over Agro Fuel supplying fuel at very expensive prices, the man has said that, for as long as UPND remains in office, he will be the only supplier to supply petroleum products. He claims officials at the Ministry of Energy are all in his pockets,” his close associates have said.
Last month, the government introduced the open access regime for fuel supply but Agro Fuel has frustrated the move by filling the entire TAZAMA Pipeline with its expensive petroleum products.
“You can imagine that despite the man preventing others from using the pipeline, he is still saying he will continue to be the main supplier. Patel is very arrogant,” the source close to his associate said.
For the past three years, Agro Fuel has been supplying petroleum products at $113 per metric tonne but since the open access regime was introduced last month, the company reduced the $54 per metric tonne.
“In the last three years, the man has made over K8 billion and still insists that he will continue to be the sole supplier. Worse still, he boasts that officials at the Ministry of Energy and all directors at TAZAMA Pipeline are all in his pockets,” said the source.
The source further said that the earlier the government and, particularly, the Ministry of Energy ceased tolerating Patel, the better as that would be beneficial to the country.
Dr. Lawrence Mwelwa has fiercely criticized the United Party for National Development (UPND) for welcoming former State House spokesperson Amos Chanda into their ranks, calling him a “political mercenary” who lacks principles and serves only his own interests.
Speaking in a statement issued to kumwesu, Dr. Mwelwa did not mince his words. “This is not just a betrayal of trust; it is a reckless gamble. Amos Chanda was Edgar Lungu’s most loyal foot soldier, defending his excesses and shielding his government from accountability. Now, we are supposed to believe he has seen the light? This is nothing but opportunism at its worst.”
Chanda, who served as the mouthpiece for former President Lungu, was instrumental in shaping the Patriotic Front’s (PF) media narrative. He fiercely attacked the opposition, journalists, and activists who questioned Lungu’s governance.
Today, he stands as a key figure in the UPND’s media team, a move that has left many political observers questioning the ruling party’s judgment.
Dr. Mwelwa described Chanda as “a political chameleon whose only loyalty is to power.” He further stated, “The UPND rode on the promise of integrity and good governance, yet they have opened their doors to a man convicted of stealing court documents and destroying evidence. What does that say about their commitment to fighting corruption?”
Indeed, in 2023, Chanda was found guilty of tampering with court records in a case involving former government officials. At the time, he dismissed the conviction as politically motivated. But now, he is working for the very people he once called enemies.
Dr. Mwelwa warned the UPND leadership against placing their trust in a man who has already betrayed one leader. “If he could betray Edgar Lungu, what makes President Hakainde Hichilema think he won’t do the same to him when the tides turn? It is in Chanda’s nature to switch sides for survival.”
The backlash against Chanda’s new role is not just coming from political analysts. Some UPND supporters have expressed disappointment, questioning why a party that fought against PF’s excesses is now embracing one of its architects.
One senior UPND member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Many of us are uncomfortable with Chanda’s presence. We worked hard to remove the PF because of the corruption and arrogance of its leadership, and now we are working with one of its main enforcers? It’s a slap in the face.”
As the dust settles, one question lingers: Is Amos Chanda truly a reformed man who has abandoned his PF past, or is he merely a Trojan horse inside the UPND, waiting for the right moment to strike? Dr. Mwelwa left no room for doubt in his conclusion. “History has shown that those who jump ship for self-preservation have no loyalty to anyone. The UPND has allowed a snake into their house. When it strikes, they shouldn’t act surprised.”
For now, the ruling party remains silent on the controversy surrounding Chanda’s appointment, but the Zambian people are watching. And as the saying goes, ‘A leopard does not change its spots.’

KOMBONI RADIO EMPLOYEES GO FIVE MONTHS WITHOUT SALARY
….as the workers demand for their pay from the station
Lusaka… Sunday March 30, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)
Komboni Radio employees are said to have gone five months without receiving their salaries.
Reliable sources have told Smart Eagles that yesterday, there was a meeting called for employees from Lusaka and Copperbelt over the same issue.
The source claims that the workers were only demanding for their salaries from the company.
“So yesterday, there was a meeting called for us workers both from Copperbelt and Lusaka. We were told that because of the court case involving the CEO (Lesa Kasoma – Komboni Radio Chief Executive Officer) and ex her husband (Stephen Nyirenda), the bank account for Komboni Radio was frozen and so we can’t receive the salaries,” the source disclosed.
“During the same meeting, we were told that our CEO was also chased from her house due to non payment of rentals. But the workers were not concerned because for them they claimed that maybe our CEO and Mr Nyirenda are saving money for the 2026 campaigns ahead of the general elections.”
The source said the workers who even came from Copperbelt have failed to return back as they have no transport money.
“There was a consensus that we just go to the Ministry of Labour to air our grievances. Because we can’t be hearing that we can’t be paid because there is a court case that resulted in the freezing of the company account. We want to be paid,” the source added.
“In the meeting, we were told that the court is yet to allocate the date in which to hear the matter before the account can be opened. But all these things do not matter to us, because for us we want to be paid. That’s why we have resolved to go to the Ministry of Labour for help.”
When reached for a comment, the Komboni Radio Chief Executive Officer Lesa Kasoma was unavailable.
Current Scenes from Bulawayo CBD as Police Dismiss Claims of Protests Amid Blessed Geza’s Call
Bulawayo, much like Harare, is a bustling city that sees heavy activity on most days, especially during weekday mornings.
However, on Monday, March 31, 2025, it mirrored Harare in its unusual quietness. The streets were notably empty, with fewer people and minimal traffic, as many residents appeared to stay away amid concerns over a potential protest.
Several supermarkets, shops, and flea markets are reportedly closed, while commuter omnibuses are operating at key points like Hyper and City Hall, though with fewer passengers than usual.
Here are some of the pictures from the Bulawayo CBD;

Wife’s promiscuity makes soldier testify that Lusaka is for business not love
A 15-year old marriage for a Lusaka couple is now on the rocks after a wife continued to rub it in her soldier husband’s face, that he may have military skills, but those in the bedroom were not sufficient to satisfy her in comparison to the first class men she had been sleeping with.
“Naise tili nabamuna bamatinyenga ma class one ( I have class one men who sleep with me), she would reportedly say anytime she assumes her husband was cheating on her.
35 year old Michael Mwanayanga, is said to have tried to fix things by engaging a relative to intervene but the wife’s sister reportedly told him that that’s how they played on the wife’s family side. .
Appearing before Matero Local Court, Mwanayanga disclosed that he believed his wife, 33-year old Delphister Manda was engaging in extramarital affairs, given the presence of explicit text messages received from her other boyfriends, including one who happened to be his co-worker
Mwanayanga also revealed that he had been finding the famous ‘morning after pills’ in their bedroom and love messages from other men.
“I am a very troubled man your honour, I have been finding messages on my wife’s phone from different men including Mr Mulenga my workmate who has been asking to see her every Friday,” Mwanayanga confessed.
“I rarely have the chance to be home because of my job in another province. So when I get the opportunity to visit, I do, but it seems I always stumble upon the painful evidence of these morning after pills. Just two weeks ago, I discovered one still sealed and two that had been used in our bedroom.”
He said every time he approached his wife, she insisted that the pills were being kept on behalf of a friend who needed her to keep them safe.
“But I find myself asking, why would a married woman be in possession of such pills?”
“Yet, time and again, my wife taunts me and rubs it in my face that “naise tili nabamuna ma class one bamatiyenga (she has class one men that sleep with her) and satisfy her in ways I never could,” he lamented.
Mwanayanga also disclosed that in his desperation, he sought the aid of his wife’s sister hoping that she would be able to help by sitting her sister down and talking things out but she said that it is a common practice among their family.
“I tried involving my wife’s sister but she responded that it’s how they play in their family.”
“Today, I believe that Lusaka is for business and not love your honor. I cannot continue to live with a wife who engages in such reckless behavior, I fear for my children’s safety and security if she remains a part of their lives,”he added.
But Manda refused her husband’s request for divorce stating that, despite allegations against her, she still loves him so much that she cannot leave without him.
“Your Honor, my husband’s behaviour changed after he left for peacekeeping. He became distant, neglecting to answer my calls or messages and I also discovered that he married another woman. I believe this is the true source of our marital dispute and not my alleged prostitution,” she said.
“I am at a loss for words right now because despite my husband’s ill treatment of me, I still cherish him deeply. However, if he believes that divorce is the only way forward, then I will not stand in his way but I do not condone this solution and will not accept it lightly because our marriage, though broken, is still sacred to me.”
In his judgement, Magistrate Lewis Mumba dissolved the marriage, citing lack of communication and trust as reasons for the couple’s inability to salvage their marriage.
“I find the presence of contraception and inappropriate communication with other men to be unacceptable in a marital relationship. It is clear that there is no trust and insufficient communication between this couple,” Magistrate Mumba said.
“Marriage comes with rules and responsibilities, these must be respected as they form the foundation of a strong and enduring relationship. If you are not ready to fulfill these commitments, marriage is not for you and it is better to remain unmarried until you are prepared to fully embrace the responsibilities that come with matrimony.”
The court granted the divorce and ordered Mwanayanga to provide care for the two eldest children, while Manda will assume custody of the youngest child.
“Additionally, Mwanayanga is hereby ordered to pay K1000 in monthly child maintenance to Manda for the care of the youngest child,” ordered Magistrate Mumba…https://kalemba.news/local/2025/03/31/wifes-promiscuity-makes-man-testify-that-lusaka-is-for-business-not-love/
Security forces are fully prepared to handle any disturbances, and the Government remains resolutely committed to ensuring national stability, the Minister of State for National Security, Lovemore Matuke, has said.
Addressing citizens in Gutu South yesterday, Minister Matuke warned against actions that threaten public order and urged the public to remain calm. He emphasised that protecting citizens’ safety remains the Government’s top priority, with all necessary measures in place to ensure communities remain secure and daily activities continue uninterrupted.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police also confirmed comprehensive nationwide deployments to maintain public safety.
“I want to assure every citizen that your security is our top priority. Comprehensive measures are in place to safeguard our society. Our security forces are well-prepared to handle any potential disruptions while ensuring that people going about their daily business are respected and protected,” said Minister Matuke.
While acknowledging citizens’ right to lawful protest, the minister firmly opposed any actions that could endanger public safety.
“In the spirit of promoting calm and resilience, I encourage all citizens to continue with their daily business as usual. There is no need for undue anxiety or panic,” he said.
“We must collectively focus on our national priorities that enhance welfare and progress, rather than be distracted by rogue elements.”
Minister Matuke warned that security forces would respond decisively to any threats posed by malcontents.
“Our security apparatus is equipped to handle the situation, and anyone attempting to incite violence or chaos will be dealt with swiftly and decisively. We call upon every citizen to show restraint.”
He further highlighted concerns over potential foreign influence behind attempts to disrupt national stability.
“We are concerned about a concerted effort to undermine our stability and foster discord within our society. I urge all citizens to remain vigilant against such foreign-funded threats.”
On Saturday, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere urged Zimbabweans to go about their business as usual, assuring that law enforcement agencies remain on high alert to guarantee security and peace.
“As official Government spokesman, I would like to assure the nation that peace and stability will continue to prevail in our country in terms of the Constitution, including on March 31, 2025. All Zimbabweans should disregard misinformation and disinformation being peddled on social media platforms by cyber terrorists,” said Dr Muswere.
“We also assure the people that law enforcement agencies have more than enough capacity to deal with any illegal activities that might take place. As a Government, we have taken note of artificial intelligence-generated videos and messages from comedian-cum-terrorists who seek to misinform and dis-inform the public. Those who want to create despondency, alarm, and anarchy will be dealt with in terms of the law. No one has the right to overthrow a constitutionally elected Government. So, labour, business, learners, students, and the generality of Zimbabweans should continue their business as usual, as the security sector has more than enough capacity to deal with any illegal activities.”
Dr Muswere dismissed the calls for protests as an attempt to create a false narrative of a political crisis.
“We urge Zimbabweans not to participate in these illegal activities, which are aimed at creating a false narrative of a political crisis in the country. These actions are criminal and undermine the constitutional rights of freedom of assembly,” he said.
Last Thursday, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Kazembe Kazembe assured the public that security services were on high alert, ensuring that citizens and visitors to the country remain safe and can engage in socio-economic activities without fear.
Yesterday, police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi echoed these sentiments, affirming that it would be business as usual across the country.
“The police have made adequate deployments throughout the country. Those using public transport or private vehicles should not fear. Businesses and schools should operate normally,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He also issued a stern warning against social media misuse.
“We are aware of individuals spreading threats online, discouraging work attendance or public transport use. Once identified, they will face the full force of the law.”
Nationwide, normalcy prevailed yesterday, with businesses operating, churches holding services, and social activities continuing undisturbed. Harare’s commercial centres remained busy, and transport services operated smoothly.
Passengers Association Coordinator Tafadzwa Goliati said: “Harare is operating normally, with no major disruptions. Commuters should proceed with their daily routines.”
Religious services across the capital proceeded without concern, with congregants focusing on worship rather than protest fears.
During Sunday sermons, church leaders emphasised the importance of respecting Government authority to promote peace and national development. Many sermons referenced Romans 13 in the New Testament, which discusses the relationship between Christians and governing authorities.
One church leader remarked, “We shared Apostle Paul’s message in the Book of Romans 13, which highlights that rulers are meant to be a source of good, rewarding those who do right and punishing wrongdoers. Paul describes the government as a servant of God for maintaining order.”
The sermons encouraged congregants to pray for peace and unity, emphasizing the need for personal and national development. The leaders acknowledged the presence of individuals with negative attitudes, likening them to Tobiah from the Book of Nehemiah, who criticized the rebuilding efforts in Jerusalem.
“Among the people, we have those with evil thoughts who do not emulate the good work being done by President Mnangagwa,” one church leader noted.
The church leaders reiterated that Christians should not only obey civil laws but also fulfill their moral obligations, such as paying taxes and showing respect to those in authority. They also referenced the concluding verses of Romans 13, which call for love among individuals, stating that “love fulfils the law.”
With security forces on high alert and businesses operating as usual, the Government remains steadfast in its commitment to peace and national stability.
Police mounted checkpoints on roads leading to major cities and towns on Monday, conducting searches on some vehicles for “dangerous weapons” in anticipation of planned anti-government protests.
Traffic into the centres of Harare and Bulawayo was noticeably reduced as many people appeared to have chosen not to go to work, and children stayed away from school. Law enforcement officers patrolled major roads, keeping an eye on any potential disturbances.
A ZimLive correspondent in Bulawayo’s central business district described the atmosphere: “It’s like Sunday morning. Not many people or cars around.”
Joshua Mqabuko Street, usually a bustling thoroughfare in Bulawayo, was largely deserted, with police officers patrolling in vehicles.
Outspoken war veteran Blessed Geza called for an “uprising” against President Emmerson Mnangagwa, accusing him of leadership failures and failing to tackle corruption. Authorities have charged Geza with treason, but he has managed to evade capture.
On the eve of Monday’s planned protests, the former Zanu PF central committee member wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Let’s fill up the streets. Mnangagwa must go. It’s for every Zimbabwean. Let’s stand up against corrupt rule.”
Despite Geza’s call, there were no signs of protests on the streets as of 8 AM.
“The call was for people to flood the streets, but it appears so far Geza has achieved the opposite, with many staying at home, perhaps out of fear of what could happen,” a ZimLive correspondent in Harare reported.
“Geza will claim a partial victory – one man causing so much chaos and potential harm to the economy, which will no doubt take a hit from industries that won’t open.”
Large supermarkets in the city centres of both Bulawayo and Harare did not open their doors, further signaling the impact of the tense atmosphere.
Police had called on Zimbabweans to go about their business as usual, promising sufficient security measures.
To ensure maximum deployment, authorities canceled leave for all police officers. In an unexpected move, the government deposited US$50 into each officer’s account last Saturday, reportedly as a morale boost.
Additionally, police detectives were required to sign a document under the Official Secrets Act, committing to remain loyal to the government, to follow instructions from the police commissioner, and to never divulge information on arrested suspects.
With a heavy police presence and businesses largely shut down, Zimbabwe’s major cities remained tense but calm as the day unfolded.
Myanmar’s junta has pressed ahead with its campaign of air strikes despite the country’s devastating earthquake, with a rebel group telling AFP Sunday seven of its fighters were killed in an aerial attack soon after the tremors hit.
The Myanmar military has increasingly turned to air strikes as it struggles to gain the upper hand against a complex array of anti-coup fighters and ethnic minority armed groups in the civil war.
Friday’s massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake, which has killed at least 1,700 people and destroyed thousands of homes and buildings, prompted some armed groups to suspend hostilities while the country deals with the crisis.
But fighters from the Danu People’s Liberation Army, an ethnic minority armed group active in northern Shan state, said they were hit by an air strike soon after the quake struck.
Five military aircraft attacked their base in Naungcho township, killing seven fighters, one of their officers told AFP.
“Our soldiers tried to get into bunkers when they heard the sound of aircraft,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“But one big bomb hit one bunker where five female soldiers were killed on the spot.”
There have been reports of other air strikes since the quake, but AFP has not been able to verify them.
Increasing use of air power – The military has suffered major battlefield defeats over the past year and a half, losing control of swathes of territory.
But while its ground forces have struggled, it retains air superiority thanks to fighter jets provided by Russia, its longstanding ally and major arms supplier.
The number of military air strikes on civilians has risen throughout the four-year civil war, according to non-profit organisation Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED), with nearly 800 in 2024.
That figure was more than triple the previous year and ACLED predicted the junta will continue to rely on air strikes because it is “under increasing military pressure on the ground”.
News of the junta’s continued use of air attacks drew criticism from rights groups and the UN special rapporteur for Myanmar.
“Reports that Myanmar’s military has continued with airstrikes after the earthquake tells you everything you need to know about the junta — obsessed with its brutal repression of civilians and desperately trying to win the war whatever the human cost,” Elaine Pearson, Asia director at Human Rights Watch, wrote on social media platform X.
The UN’s special rapporteur for Myanmar, Tom Andrews, urged the junta to halt military operations and declare an immediate ceasefire.
He told the BBC it was “nothing short of incredible” that the military was dropping bombs on people after a devastating earthquake.
An air strike earlier this month hit a village held by anti-coup fighters around 60 kilometres (40 miles) north of the second-biggest city Mandalay, which has been badly affected by the quake.
The strike killed at least 12 people, according to a local official who said it targeted civilian areas.
From Lungu’s Inner Circle to UPND’s Media Team: A Story of Betrayal or Survival?
By Dr Mwelwa
Has the UPND run out of good people that they now have to rely on someone who once worked against them? Are they so desperate that they are willing to trust a man who has already betrayed one leader? Is Amos Chanda really an asset to them, or will he just bring more problems?
Zambian politics is full of surprises. One day, someone is a trusted ally, and the next, they are revealing secrets about their former boss. Amos Chanda used to be one of Edgar Lungu’s closest people, speaking for him and defending him. Now, he is part of the UPND media team, and many people are wondering why. Can someone who has turned against his former leader really be trusted?
The famous Chinese strategist Sun Tzu once said, “You must know when to fight and when not to fight.” But what about people who change sides just to save themselves? Chanda was at the center of Lungu’s government, and now he is working for those who once opposed him. Has he really changed, or is he just looking for safety in his new position?
To understand what is happening, we must look back at Lungu’s time in power. Chanda was not just a small player—he was important. If power shows a person’s true character, then we must ask: was Chanda always loyal to Lungu, or was he just playing a role? Now, he speaks against his former boss, revealing details that he once helped to keep secret.
So, is he doing this because he has had a change of heart, or is he only looking out for himself? The Greeks believed that once a person betrays, they will betray again. Aristotle even said, “A person who has betrayed once will always be a betrayer.” If that is true, then should the UPND trust Chanda? Or will he one day turn against them too?
What is even more confusing is that Chanda is a convicted criminal. He was found guilty of stealing a court document and destroying evidence. How does someone with such a history become the face of a ruling party’s media team? The UPND claimed to stand for integrity, but by welcoming Chanda, are they not going against their own values?
There is an old saying, “When a wise man points at the moon, the fool looks at his finger.” The Zambian people must now ask themselves: is this about justice, or is it just about survival? Is Chanda exposing the truth, or is he just trying to stay relevant and avoid trouble?
History is full of people who turned against their friends but never found peace afterward. Julius Caesar was not killed by his enemies, but by the people who were supposed to be his friends. Judas betrayed Jesus for money, but in the end, he regretted it. Chanda has left Lungu and joined the UPND, but will his new allies ever fully trust him? And more importantly, can the people trust him?
The UPND has made a big decision by accepting Chanda into their team. But have they done this because they believe in him, or because they need someone to attack Lungu? Have they gained a valuable ally, or have they taken in a man who will only bring them trouble?
As time goes on, Zambians will have to judge for themselves. The Greeks believed that the gods hate traitors, and the Chinese say, “A donkey carrying books is still a donkey.” Chanda might know many secrets, but has he really changed? Only time will tell whether the UPND has made a smart move or a big mistake.
ONLY INCLINED MEMBERS RECEIVING CDF LOANS IN CHOMA – UPND MEMBER
A Choma resident Joe Muchindu has made shocking allegations against UPND officials on the dispersenssion of loans under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in Choma central constituency.
And Muchindu who is also a member of the ruling party has challenged civic leaders in the area to explain to the people of Choma central on the whereabouts of revolving funds from the loans allocated under the CDF which are given annually.
Speaking during an interaction with traditional leaders and UPND ward officials in Mutandalikke and Sikalongo wards in the constituency, Muchindu noted that government had pumped in a lot of funds to empower citizens through acquiring loans from CDF, but was quick to mention that in Choma, the purpose had not been achieved due to alleged mismanagement of the funds by some civic leaders.
Muchindu alleged that the loans are not given to people that have the capacity to pay back, but to those that are close to the civic leaders sitting in the CDF committees.
This is contrary to President Hakainde Hichilema’s emphasis that everyone should benefit from such incentives regardless of political inclination.
If it was only those linked to people sitting in CDF committees receiving who ruling party members, Muchindu wondered as to whether none UPND but Zambians received anything.
“Government has given out loans under CDF from the year it was increased in 2022 to date but Choma has not declared how much has been realized from the people that got loans because of bad representation in parliament and council,” he said.
Muchindu further stated that the community in Choma had not seen much even when the UPND government increased CDF due to bad leadership.
The concerned UPND member has challenged the leaders in the district to also show their achievements thus far, adding that there was less to talk about in terms of development.
“When President Hakainde Hichilema came to Choma, headmen and women were told to create cooperatives and clubs for them to benefit from CDF but this hasn’t happened because of having elected leaders who do not have a heart for the people,” Muchindu said.
Muchindu has since described the issue surrounding CDF in Choma as a scandal which needs to be investigated.
Meanwhile, Muchindu has urged the electorates in Choma Central to use the 2026 elections and reject leaders that have not helped them benefit CDF in the last five years.
IN the wake of a backlash from netizens following her recent radio interview, Maria Zaloumis has maintained that she is not a bitter ex. https://www.facebook.com/100064560977290/posts/1098285339000155/ The three time divorcee, who has blamed her exes for the dissolution of the unions, says she only spoke the truth about her ex husbands and not out of bitterness.
The Agri-prenuer said this online in response to people who bashed her over her recent radio interview, in which she said she would no longer date Zambian men. Ms Zaloumis she is done with Zambian men because most of them including her immediate former husband, Pastor Mwewa are narcissists. But many bloggers accsued her of being bitter, urging her to heal before going on interviews considering that she has had three failed marriages.
In response, Ms Zaloumis has insisted that she is not bitter but merely spoke her mind. She mockingly claimed those commenting about her are making me famous when she doesn’t need to. “…You have too much time on your hands. I go on radio, I speak the truth, nothing that I said is a lie, and the next thing, people are writing articles,so,about the Zed farmer and what she said.
The renowned tomato farmer dismissed claims that she is a bitter ex wife. “…How can you be bitter about a poor person, really, you can’t be bitter about a poor man, there’s nothing nice about someone looking after somebody who is poor, there’s nothing like that. Somebody who doesn’t love you,” she said. The blogger also responded to those who questioned her plans to sell her wedding dress, especially that some even advised her to add annoiting oil to it to cleanse it of divorce omen.
“…Oh yes, my wedding dress. Yes, I was going to sell my wedding dress, because, hey listen, I don’t need it anymore. I will put annoiting oil if you want me to put annoiting oil.
“But I need to sell it…When somebody else sells her wedding dress who has been divorced three times, you won’t say no… “But me, I sell my wedding dress it’s a problem , okay, no auction for the wedding dress, I will throw it away the wedding dress, I hear you,” she mockingly responded to comments. Kylian Mbappé could be at risk of missing Real Madrid’s crucial UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal, following an ongoing disciplinary investigation by UEFA.
The governing body is reviewing a controversial post-match incident involving the 25-year-old forward, captured in a viral video circulating on social media.
Why Mbappé risks suspension ahead of Arsenal showdown After Madrid’s thrilling, high-stakes Round of 16 encounter against Atletico Madrid, footage emerged showing Mbappe making an indecent gesture while celebrating in front of the opposition’s supporters.
The Mail Sport captured the moment, which has since drawn criticism, particularly from Atletico officials, who have lodged a formal complaint with UEFA.
In response, the European football governing body confirmed that its Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector would conduct an inquiry into allegations of misconduct against Mbappé and several Madrid teammates, as noted by Goal.
If found guilty, those involved could face suspensions, fines, or both, potentially ruling them out of the first leg against Arsenal on April 8 at the Emirates Stadium.
Will Mbappé be banned by UEFA? Precedents that could shape the decision UEFA’s history of disciplinary actions suggests that Mbappé’s case could result in either a financial penalty or a one-match suspension, similar to past incidents involving high-profile figures.
During Euro 2024, Jude Bellingham was fined €30,000 and handed a one-game suspended ban for a crotch-grabbing celebration after scoring against Slovakia in the Round of 16, according to The Athletic.
Again, in 2019, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone received a €20,000 fine for a comparable action after his side scored a goal against Juventus in the Champions League.
Given these precedents, Mbappé and Madrid will anxiously await UEFA’s ruling, knowing that a potential ban could disrupt their Champions League campaign.
What does Mbappé’s potential ban mean for Madrid’s Champions League aspirations? A suspension for Mbappé and possibly other key Madrid players would significantly affect Carlo Ancelotti’s game plan against Arsenal.
The quarter-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium is expected to be a tightly contested battle, with Madrid hoping to secure an advantage over Mikel Arteta’s men before the return fixture at the Bernabéu.
For Mbappé, missing the encounter would be a major setback as he continues his pursuit of a maiden Champions League triumph.
Los Blancos, aiming to retain the coveted European title, will hope that the investigation does not lead to a ruling that jeopardises their quest for continental supremacy.

BE REASONABLE – SPORTS MINISTER URGES PEOPLE WHO HALTED FAZ AGM WITH COURT ORDER
MINISTER of Sport, Elvis Nkandu has asked the People who are behind the court order that halted the FAZ Elective Annual General Meeting to be reasonable and think of the cost implications of what they are doing.
Nkandu who was speaking during a media briefing at the Avani Hotel in Livingstone said the situation was deeply regrettable as it disrupted the smooth administration of football in our country.
“This turn of events is deeply regrettable, as it disrupts the smooth administration of football in our country. As a government that values dialogue and consensus-building, we are saddened that this matter has escalated to the courts,” he said.
“I think people should be reasonable and think of the cost implications of what they are doing. Imagine people coming from different parts of the country only to be told that the AGM will not proceed, people should have looked at this critically rather than putting their interests first. People should always strive to ensure they put the ineptest of nations first.”
Nkandu was also quick to reiterate President Hakainde Hichilema’s guidance on the need for dialogue rather than litigation.
“The President has emphasised the need to resolve issues amicably through engagement and dialogue rather than litigation. Football is a unifying sport and any disagreements must be handled in a manner that promotes harmony and development,” he said.
“The route taken by people who fled this injunction is unfortunate because this should have been handled without getting to this stage.”
Nkandu feels allowing the AGM to go ahead was the best thing for Zambian football and went on to urgent all the parties involved to work towards finding solutions.
“We believe that allowing the elective process to continue is in the best interest of Zambian football and all stakeholders involved. Stability and good governance are critical to the progress of the sport, and we urge all parties to work towards solutions that do not jeopardize the future of football in Zambia.,” Nkandu said.
“We call on all stakeholders to act in good faith and prioritize the development of football over individual interests. Zambia has a rich footballing history, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that the game continues to thrive without unnecessary disruptions.”
“Government has no intentions whatsoever to interfere with the running of football. We had a discussion with the FIFA people before they left. Petitioners please, if you have any interest in this nation, withdraw that injunction. We will continue engaging them,” he added.
The Football Association of Zambia was scheduled to hold their elective Annual General Meeting on Saturday at Fairmount Hotel in Livingstone but due to a court order the meeting could not take off.
Kanye West has recorded a podcast with controversial internet personality and accused human trafficker Andrew Tate, according to a new lawsuit.
Bri Stern, a girlfriend of the self-proclaimed misogynist, sued Tate on Thursday (March 27) accusing him of assaulting her during sex, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Kanye was recently seen with Tate and his brother Tristan at a recording studio, but the lawsuit claims that the rap legend also recorded a podcast with the divisive influencers.
Tate’s attorney, Joseph McBride, previously teased the podcast on social media, writing: “Last night, I sat on a couch and watched Andrew, Tristan, and @kanyewest talk for hours about the suffering and betrayals they’ve endured for achieving greatness on their own terms.”
Andrew Tate describes his experience meeting Kanye West
Tate himself spoke about the meeting on his livestream earlier this week, saying: “Kanye very kindly invited us to his underground Batman-esque cavern where he produces his genius, and it was truthfully quite an amazing experience. When I walked in there, I was like, ‘This is unlike anywhere I’ve ever been before.’”
The podcast has yet to be released.
Kanye West’s newfound relationship with Andrew Tate has also landed him in trouble with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
The rapper’s time with his daughter North West was reportedly cut short earlier this month when Kardashian learned that Andrew and Tristan Tate were coming to his studio.
According to TMZ, Kim had an emergency custody hearing after learning that the brothers were headed to meet her ex-husband’s, on top of the fact that Ye had also released a song featuring both North and Diddy — who is currently behind bars on sex trafficking charges.
In turn, West accused Kardashian and her family of being “sex traffickers” in an explosive rant on social media.
“The Kardashians are sex workers and they sex traffic all of the black children they strategically produce,” he wrote on X. “Kim Kardashian is a sex trafficker. I don’t like that [FKA] twigs has my daughter in her video dressing all grown. I would have expected more from twigs.
“It’s fuck all you n-ggas. My soul is black. And watch y’all don’t believe me and just say I’m crazy.”
‘Blessed Geza Is a Coward’: Wicknell Chivayo Urges Zimbabweans Not To Be Used
Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has strongly condemned Blessed Geza and his call for protests on Monday, 31 March. In a lengthy Facebook post, Chivayo lashed out at Geza, urging Zimbabweans to avoid the demonstrations organized by the former Zanu PF central committee member.
Wicknell Chivayo Slams Blessed Geza Chivayo described Geza as a failed politician, accusing him of leading a group of exiled fugitives and disillusioned opposition figures. He went on to criticize Geza for his call for unrest, emphasising that it goes against Zimbabwe’s peaceful and law-abiding values.
“Zimbabwe is a PEACEFUL nation, known for its EDUCATED and responsible citizens, most of whom carry Christian values and are LAW-abiding. The reckless call for an ILLEGAL uprising and incitement to violence is totally UNZIMBABWEAN and must be REJECTED by every peace-loving citizen. At the center of this chaos is an individual who no longer deserves the respected title of CDE but a chap called Blessed Geza, a USELESS, failed politician and fugitive from justice, whose only remaining strategy is to provoke instability from his SELF-IMPOSED EXILE. Expelled from ZANU PF for his dishonorable conduct, Geza has become a POLITICAL NONENTITY, desperately trying to stay relevant by leading a criminal cartel of fugitives and BITTER opposition remnants,” Chivayo said.
Zimbabweans Will Not Be Misled Chivayo went further to argue that Zimbabweans would not be swayed by Geza’s calls for protests, pointing out that he lacks both political support and the courage to face the law. He described Geza’s actions as a betrayal of the peace that Zimbabweans fought for during the liberation struggle.
“Zimbabweans must NEVER be misled by someone who has NO political mandate, NO following on the ground and NO courage to face the law. His irresponsible calls for unrest are a BETRAYAL of the peace we all cherish, which our founding fathers fought for and won in 1980. Many shed their blood during the liberation struggle for us to enjoy the liberty which Mr GEZA and his cabal want to destroy through TREASONOUS means. NO ONE has the right to REMOVE a Constitutionally elected Government, just because they feel like they can!” he added.
Chivayo Declares Support for President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF Leadership Chivayo expressed his full support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his leadership team, including Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, as well as the entire Zanu PF party. He reiterated his confidence in Zimbabwe’s security forces, praising their honour, discipline, and integrity. Chivayo wrote:
“I stand RESOLUTELY with His Excellency, President E.D. Mnangagwa and his Presidium — Vice President C.D.G.N. Chiwenga, Vice President K.C.D. Mohadi, Hon. Opah Muchinguri and the entire ZANU PF leadership, who continue to guide this nation towards DEVELOPMENT, PEACE and UNITY under Vision 2030. I also express my FULL CONFIDENCE in the PATRIOTIC leadership of our security services and military commanders, who are unshakeable and incorruptible men and women of HONOUR, DISCIPLINE and UNQUESTIONABLE INTEGRITY.”
Chivayo also suggested that Geza should have pursued dialogue with President Mnangagwa instead of resorting to violence. He reiterated that Mnangagwa has always been open to constructive criticism. He warned against the potential violence that could result from such protests, including property destruction and the burning of vehicles, calling these acts illegal and treasonous. He urged Zimbabweans to ignore Geza’s protest call and continue with their lives peacefully.
“President Mnangagwa has ALWAYS encouraged OPEN DIALOGUE and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. His vision is clear as he intends to build an upper-middle class economy by 2030 for all Zimbabweans, leaving no one and no place behind. To shift from legal and peaceful demonstrations and start BURNING vehicles, DESTROYING property belonging to innocent individuals and calling for the VIOLENT REMOVAL of a Government is ILLEGAL, treasonous and easily qualifies as TERRORISM. No serious, patriotic Zimbabwean should entertain this. I URGE all citizens to ignore the EMPTY CALL to protest tomorrow or on any other day called for by ANARCHISTS such as Geza. Let us all continue normally with our lives tomorrow and beyond,”
Has Apple, the biggest company in the world, bungled its generative artificial intelligence strategy?
Doubts blew out into the open when one of the company’s closest observers, tech analyst John Gruber, earlier this month gave a blistering critique in a blog post titled “Something Is Rotten in the State of Cupertino,” which is home to Apple’s headquarters.
The respected analyst and Apple enthusiast said he was furious for not being more skeptical when the company announced last June that its Siri chatbot would be getting a major generative AI (genAI) upgrade.
The technology, to be released as part of the Apple Intelligence suite of iPhone software, was to catapult the much-derided voice assistant’s capabilities beyond just giving the weather or setting a timer.
Investors hoped the upgrade would launch the iPhone on a much-needed super-cycle, in which a new feature on the smartphone proves so tantalizing that users rush to snap up the latest and most expensive models.
Apple Intelligence and its promised Siri upgrade was very much supposed to fuel that demand, starting as soon as the release of the iPhone 16, which came out in September.
Apple Intelligence and its promised Siri upgrade was very much supposed to fuel that demand, starting as soon as the release of the iPhone 16, which came out in September.
Instead Apple quietly announced on March 7 that the highly personalized Siri would not be coming as early as hoped.
Adding to the pressure, Amazon in February announced a new version of its Alexa voice assistant that is powered by genAI.
“It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year,” Apple said.
Data privacy vs AI Theories vary on why Apple is having trouble seizing the AI moment.
For Marcus Collins, marketing professor at the University of Michigan, Apple’s struggles with genAI and Siri in particular may be more due to the importance the company gives to data privacy than any problem with innovating.
For AI to be personalized, it needs to consume massive amounts of personal data.
And “Apple hasn’t let up on the gas when it comes to privacy,” Collins told AFP.
But at some point, “people’s information, creations, language… are all being exploited to help grow better AI,” and squaring that circle might be harder than bargained for by Apple.
For tech analyst Avi Greengart, “The fact that Apple has advertised Apple Intelligence so heavily with the iPhone 16 is a bit of a black eye, because most of what was promised in Apple Intelligence is not in the iPhone 16.”
But he cautions that even if Google’s Gemini AI features in its Android line of phones are way ahead of anything Apple has delivered, customers may not have noticed much.
“Even the best implementation of AI on phones today doesn’t fundamentally change the way you use your phone yet,” he said.
“No one has delivered on the full vision and that gives Apple time to catch up — but it certainly needs to catch up.”
Still, Apple’s harshest critics complain that Apple rests too much on its laurels and the uber-popularity of its iPhone.
Moreover, the stumbles on AI came swiftly after lackluster reception of Vision Pro, Apple’s expensive virtual reality headset that has failed to gain traction since its release in 2024.
Despite the recent negative headlines for Apple and the fact that its share price is down 8 percent since the start of the year, it remains the world’s most valuable company and its stock is still up almost 30 percent from a year ago.
And Apple reported a whopping $124.3 billion in revenue in the year-end holiday quarter, even if sales growth fell shy of market expectations.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has showered encomiums on Kylian Mbappe following his match-winning performance in the 3-2 win against Leganes.
The French forward continued his impressive run of form with a stunning showing which handed his team the maximum points to keep them in the title race.
He opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a panenka penalty before Diego Garcia equalised for Leganes within a minute.
Leganes took a shock lead just before halftime to make it 2-1 going into the break.
Jude Bellingham quickly restored parity for Real Madrid immediately after the restart.
Mbappe again showed his importance to Real Madrid with a sublime free kick in the 76th minute to wrap up the three points.
It was Mbappe’s first-ever free kick goal in his professional career.
The goal was his 33rd of the season in all competitions, equalling Cristiano Ronaldo’s record in his debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The former PSG forward is now third on the list of players with the highest scoring debut seasons in Real Madrid’s history.
He is behind Ivan Zamorano, who scored 37 goals in 45 games, and Cristiano Ronaldo who scored 33 goals in 35 games.
Mbappe overcame a tough start to life in Spain after he was criticised for his poor performances at the beginning of the season before he started finding his feet, and he has enjoyed a turnaround in his performance in the second half of the season.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was impressed with Mbappe’s goal scoring showing against Leganes.
He said: “He’s doing very well, much more active, present in the game. He’s making a difference, that’s what we want from him.
“He tried the free kick yesterday, it went really well, and he wanted to try it again today. We’ve given him our trust.”
The Italian manager admitted that his team suffered against Leganes, while admitting the poor performance in the first half.
Ancelotti said: “I can’t remember a game in which we haven’t suffered. We have to do it, and the important thing is that it’s together. Football games are like that. There are no easy matches. But suffering isn’t a problem.
“We didn’t play a bad game. We had control, but we lacked balance… and that’s why we conceded two goals. Given what we did in the first half, we didn’t deserve them, but they caught us out on two counterattacks and, without balance, they scored.
“What was missing was balance in the first half. After the penalty, we could have managed the lead better. The team wasn’t well positioned, and that’s why we conceded two goals. But we were better in the second half.”
Mbappe was delighted to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s record, while further reiterating his desire to win trophies for the club.
He said: “Me and Cristiano Ronaldo speak frequently. He gives me a lot of advice.
“I’m very happy to equal his goals in the first season, we know what he represents for all of us… but the really important thing is to WIN trophies with Real Madrid”.
The 26-year-old has now scored 22 goals in 27 La Liga matches, seven goals in 12 Champions League matches with the other goals in cup competitions.
Up next for Real Madrid is the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final clash against Real Sociedad on Tuesday.
“Amos Chanda, former Press and Public Relations Aide to President Edgar Lungu, has recently made headlines for spilling what he claims are dark secrets from the corridors of power during his tenure. His revelations have sent shockwaves across the political landscape, igniting speculation about his true motives. Is he seeking redemption? Is he trying to ingratiate himself with the current administration? Or is he simply a man running from his own past?
What is clear is that Amos Chanda is playing a high-stakes game—one that rarely ends well for those who embark on such a path. His decision to air out supposed state secrets raises serious questions about his character, credibility, and long-term objectives.
In politics, loyalty defines a man. Chanda once stood as a staunch defender of Edgar Lungu, but today, he has become his fiercest critic. The sudden shift begs the question: Why has Amos turned into a turncoat? If he had personal grievances with President Lungu, the honorable course of action would have been to seek a private resolution rather than launching a media spectacle. After all, both men are now out of government.
Instead, Amos has chosen a public purge, unearthing classified information in a desperate attempt to cleanse himself of sins only he truly understands. The irony, however, is that even those he is attempting to impress will eventually see him as a liability rather than an asset. If he can betray Lungu, what guarantee is there that he won’t do the same to his new allies?
Chanda’s revelations have inadvertently dragged three different governments into conflict. His loose tongue has not only targeted the Lungu administration but has also created discomfort for the UPND, which now finds itself caught between exploiting his confessions and dealing with the legal ramifications of harboring a political defector with self-incriminating testimonies.
For someone who took the oath of office and swore to uphold secrecy, Chanda’s conduct is akin to a small bull being castrated just before scrotal implosion—an act of desperation and impending disaster. What exactly is he running from? What skeletons haunt his past that he feels the need to purge himself so dramatically?
It is not far-fetched to suggest that Chanda is seeking the protection of the UPND government, hoping they will shield him from possible legal troubles stemming from his time in office. But political history is unforgiving to men like him. Those who sell their loyalty for temporary safety often end up abandoned, discarded like a used condom when their usefulness expires.
If the UPND is wise, they will stay far away from Chanda. A man willing to betray his former boss so eagerly is an unstable element. While some within the ruling party may view him as a useful tool in discrediting Edgar Lungu, they must also recognize that he poses a significant risk. From his own admissions, Chanda has confessed to acts that could be classified as treasonous—usurping presidential powers for personal aggrandizement. If the UPND truly believes in the rule of law, they should not be parading him before the media but rather reporting him to law enforcement.
Furthermore, if the end goal is to paint Lungu as incompetent, frequently absent, or even drunk during his presidency in order to justify stripping him of his immunity, it is a cheap and dangerous political strategy. It will not only backfire but also set a precedent that future governments may exploit against them.
Amos Chanda has crossed a dangerous threshold, one from which there is no return. His actions are not just about personal redemption; they are a reckless gamble with long-term consequences. He has burned bridges with his past allies and will never be fully trusted by his new suitors.
For the UPND, embracing Chanda is a miscalculation they may soon regret. He is not a political asset but a liability—one that will eventually become too costly to handle. His story serves as a cautionary tale: those who betray their past will find no secure footing in the future.
The best course of action for the ruling party? Drop Amos Chanda before he drags them into the abyss with him.”
Lusambo could sleep in cars during MMD campaigns just to save money – Nakacinda
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) faction Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda has testified in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that jailed ex- Lusaka Province minister, Bowman Lusambo, could rather sleep in a car when given personal allowances to save up while his colleagues danced in night clubs.
Nakacinda said Lusambo was good at saving as he received a lot of money for personal allocation as a “die hard” youth chairperson during the MMD regime.
The PF faction leader who took stand in defending his counterpart said Lusambo would be given money by former President Rupiah Banda’s political advisor in sums of K500 million unrebased to use in mobilising the youths.
Nakacinda was testifying in a matter where Lusambo pleaded not guilty to two counts of possession of properties reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.
It is alleged that Lusambo possessed property number F/609/E/44/B/9, comprising of a single storey four (4) bedroom house, guest wing, gazebo and a car shed located in Chamba Valley, Lusaka, a property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
It is also alleged that Lusambo possessed an incomplete block of six (6) flats, constructed on property number F/609/E/50 in Chamba Valley Lusaka, properties reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.
Nakacinda told the court that he could notice that when they went out, Lusambo would starve himself in order to keep money for his family.
“Without embarrassing the accused, I witnessed a number of times that when these monies are released and they allocate these for personal assignments, Mr Lusambo would choose to sleep in the car to try and save some money.”
“I remember asking him one time in Mansa, Die hard, where are you sleeping? his response was that ‘us in politics, there is no salary so what you are given, I would rather save and do some projects because I also have children,’ ” he said.
Nakacinda said Lusambo put his money to good use unlike his other colleagues who would be in night clubs and treat themselves to luxury life.
“I also witnessed some who would have the same money, but would be in night clubs and treat themselves to some luxury life and have a story of having so much money going through their hands but with nothing to show for it,” he said.
Nakacinda said Lusambo could receive money in millions which he could apply discipline and choose to invest.
“In 2011 after MMD lost elections, Mr Lusambo shifted from Lusaka from a big house that he was renting to go and live in a two bedroom house in Kafue,” he said.
Nakacinda said Lusambo told him that since they lost elections, the monies that he had access to would rather be saved and used to complete the house he was building in Chamba Valley.
“Lusambo had enough income to enable him build even before he became Member of Parliament” Nakacinda emphasised.
“He made numerous investments and among them built a house which I think he eventually completed at the time he was a member of Parliament and minister.”
Following the testimony, the matter was adjourned to May 6, 2025 for continued defence
UPND’s Struggling Media Team: Amos Chanda’s Inclusion and Its Impact on Public Perception
By Michael Zephaniah Phiri
The United Party for National Development (UPND) media team has faced significant challenges in convincing Zambians of the achievements of President Hakainde Hichilema and his administration over the past three years. Despite their efforts, public opinion remains divided, and the situation has only been further complicated by the recent inclusion of Amos Chanda, a former press aide to ex-President Edgar Lungu.
His addition to the team raises many eyebrows, as it symbolizes the growing frustration within the UPND’s media strategy, particularly in light of the team’s failure to truly connect with the masses.
Chanda, who has publicly stated that he is facing political issues and feels he has no option but to join the “losing team,” carries a reputation that many view as controversial. His past association with the Lungu administration, along with his recent statements, have cast doubts on his motivations and trustworthiness.
This is especially concerning given that UPND’s leadership, under President Hichilema, had initially prided themselves on assembling a team of high-caliber professionals, suggesting that only individuals with impeccable integrity would be entrusted with leadership roles.
Now, the public perceives that people once labeled as political adversaries or even criminals are being welcomed into the fold without much explanation or transparency.
While the inclusion of Chanda might appear to some as a strategic move to strengthen the UPND’s media presence, it’s unlikely to sway the views of many Zambians who are skeptical of political turncoats. Critics argue that rather than rebranding its media approach, UPND’s actions are simply reinforcing the narrative that they are desperate to salvage their image in the face of mounting disillusionment.
The trustworthiness of individuals like Chanda has already been called into question, and their involvement with the ruling party only deepens the sense of betrayal among some citizens.
In summary,In the long run, no amount of media manipulation or strategic alliances with controversial figures like Amos Chanda can erase the fact that many Zambians have grown disillusioned with the current administration. While Chanda’s addition to the UPND media team may be a short-term attempt at gaining some credibility, it ultimately highlights the party’s struggle to convince the public of its achievements.
As the political landscape evolves, the real challenge for President Hichilema and the UPND will be to focus on meaningful reforms and to reconnect with the people who once believed in their promise of change.
UPND’S MEDIA OVERHAUL: EMBRACING FORMER POLITICAL RIVALS TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNICATION
The ongoing debate surrounding the incorporation of seemingly “foreign communications experts” from the previous government into the United Party for National Development (UPND) media team has ignited considerable controversy. Many UPND sympathizers have openly criticized the decision to include former political opponents within the party’s media apparatus.
Let us now confront the uncomfortable truth at the heart of this issue. For several years, I have consistently stated in various forums that one of the UPND’s most significant weaknesses lay within its media division. Since ascending to power, the UPND media team has often appeared reactionary, struggling to set the narrative, particularly on critical matters of national economic policy. Instead of taking proactive control, they have frequently found themselves on the back foot, responding to events rather than shaping the discourse.
The recent decision to integrate communications experts from the former ruling party into the UPND media team is, in many ways, a vindication of the concerns that I and many others have raised over the years. It reflects a tacit acknowledgment of the deficiencies that have plagued the party’s media operations.
Before rushing to point fingers at those in positions of power, it is worth pausing to reflect on what may have driven this decision. Why would the UPND leadership feel compelled to bring in external expertise, even from former adversaries? The answer is likely as evident to you as it is to me: the media team has demonstrated a worrying level of ineffectiveness over the past few years.
In politics, as in any competitive arena, results matter. The ability to control the narrative and communicate effectively is not a luxury but a necessity. If the current media team has been unable to rise to the occasion, it should come as no surprise that the leadership has sought to bolster its ranks with individuals who have demonstrated competence, regardless of their political origins.
Ultimately, the focus should not be on where these experts come from but rather on whether they can enhance the UPND’s ability to articulate its vision and engage with the public more effectively. If this integration leads to a more robust and dynamic media team, it may well prove to be a prudent decision.

NGOCC UNHAPPY WITH PRESIDENT HICHILEMA FOR SNUBBING WOMEN IN CABINET
The Non-Governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has issued a scathing rebuke of President Hakainde Hichilema’s latest Cabinet appointment, accusing him of systematically sidelining women from key leadership positions.
Following the dismissal of Hon. Gary Nkombo as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, the President had yet another opportunity to promote gender equality. Instead, NGOCC says he reinforced the entrenched patriarchy by appointing yet another male Member of Parliament.
“This is not just an oversight, it is an outright refusal to acknowledge the need for gender parity in governance,” charged NGOCC Chairperson Beauty Katebe. “With only four women in a Cabinet of 25, this administration is clearly failing to live up to its commitments on inclusivity.”
The organization condemned what it called “deliberate political exclusion” of women, arguing that Zambia’s leadership remains an old boys’ club where women’s capabilities are continuously disregarded.
“We refuse to sit back and watch as this government systematically undermines women’s rightful place in leadership. President Hichilema’s actions prove that his administration is content with token representation rather than real gender equality,” Katebe fumed.
NGOCC also took aim at Zambia’s electoral system, which it says is structurally designed to block women, youth, and persons with disabilities from meaningful participation.
“This exclusion is intentional, and it must be dismantled. The government cannot continue to hide behind weak constitutional clauses such as Article 259, which is constantly manipulated to justify the exclusion of women,” the organization declared.
The group demanded immediate constitutional reforms to introduce Mixed Member Proportional Representation (MMPR), warning that failure to act would result in stronger resistance from women’s rights activists and civil society.
“The time for polite appeals is over. If this government refuses to respect women, then we will mobilize, protest, and ensure that gender equality is no longer ignored,” Katebe warned.
NGOCC further called on Zambians to reject any leadership that continues to suppress women’s representation, urging Parliament and civil society to demand serious reforms.
“The President cannot claim to champion democracy while locking women out of decision-making spaces. This is a betrayal, and we will not stand for it,” Katebe emphasized.
As the pressure mounts, NGOCC has vowed to intensify its advocacy, warning that it will not hesitate to escalate its demands until Zambia achieves true gender parity in leadership.
Zambia’s Cyber Bills: A Stealth Attack on Freedoms, Warns MISA Zambia
MISA Zambia has slammed the proposed Cyber Security Bill and Cyber Crimes Bill of 2024, calling them dangerous instruments designed to strip Zambians of their hard-won freedoms under the disguise of cybersecurity.
Speaking at a tense stakeholders’ briefing, MISA Zambia National Coordinator Austin Kayanda did not mince words, warning that if passed in their current form, these Bills will open the floodgates for mass surveillance, state harassment, and the suppression of critical voices in Zambia.
“The government is trying to sell us poison coated as medicine,” Kayanda charged. “Yes, cybersecurity is necessary, but not at the expense of fundamental rights. These Bills will criminalize free expression, spy on citizens without judicial approval, and muzzle the press.”
MISA Zambia, backed by a formidable alliance of civil society organizations, expressed outrage that despite participating in last year’s consultations, government bulldozed ahead with a version of the Bills that ignores key recommendations to safeguard press freedom, privacy, and democratic accountability.
“The executive wants sweeping powers, unchecked and unaccountable. Why create a Central Monitoring Centre with the ability to tap, read, and store citizens’ private communications without clear judicial safeguards? This is not about protecting Zambians; it is about controlling them,” Kayanda declared.
MISA Zambia Chairperson Lorraine Mwanza Chisanga echoed the concerns, calling the Bills a “direct attack on Zambia’s democracy.”
She added that these laws risk turning journalists into criminals and ordinary social media users into targets of state security agencies.
Chisanga accused lawmakers of playing politics with basic rights. “It is unacceptable that vague provisions capable of criminalizing investigative journalism, political criticism, and even satire are still present. MPs must reject this assault on the Constitution.”
Kayanda further warned that placing the Zambia Cyber Security Agency under State House, rather than an independent oversight body, will render it a political weapon. “These powers will not secure the nation; they will secure ruling party interests,” he warned.
Civil society groups also condemned the Bills’ deliberate ambiguity. Terms like “cybercrime” are defined so broadly that a Facebook post criticizing poor governance could be enough to get someone arrested.
In a defiant tone, Kayanda urged Members of Parliament to stop acting as “rubber stamps” and remember that they swore an oath to protect the people, not to surrender their freedoms. “If they pass these Bills as they are, let it be known that they are voting against the people of Zambia.”
MISA Zambia and its allies pledged to continue mobilizing citizens to resist what they described as the institutionalization of tyranny. “We will not be silent. We will defend the democratic space, no matter how hard they try to shut us up,” Kayanda vowed.
The Bills are currently before the National Assembly, but civil society has promised the battle is far from over. “These Bills may look like laws, but they are weapons, weapons aimed at the people,” Chisanga concluded.
Editorial Note:
In the midst of a global struggle between security and civil liberties, Zambia’s proposed Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Bills stand out as a dangerous attempt to consolidate power under the guise of protecting the public. Civil society organizations, led by MISA Zambia, have raised the alarm, calling on MPs to abandon this assault on democratic freedoms. The question is, will they heed the warnings, or will the people once again be sacrificed at the altar of political expediency? As citizens, it’s time to step up and protect what’s rightfully ours.
GUEST ARTICLE: Enough is Enough: Stop Sabotaging Zambian Football!
Nkweto Tembwe
The National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) has spoken, and the message is clear—the injunction that stalled the FAZ AGM and elections has been discharged. This was yet another baseless legal distraction designed to derail football administration and throw the game into unnecessary chaos. But the enemies of football have failed.
Let this be a reminder: football is bigger than individuals and their selfish ambitions. Those who continue to manipulate legal loopholes, stir confusion, and undermine the democratic processes of the game must be held accountable. Their actions do not serve the interests of Zambian football but instead expose a blatant disregard for progress, transparency, and unity.
Loyalty must not be to personal agendas, but to the sovereignty of our nation. Zambia’s football future cannot be dictated by those who thrive on courtroom battles rather than the pitch. Real patriots will always put the development of the game first—not egos, not personal vendettas, and certainly not power struggles.
And let this serve as a warning: the wolves in sheep’s skin, masquerading as angels of light in our football, will soon be exposed. When that day comes, Zambians will be shocked—but even more disappointed. Those pretending to fight for justice, while scheming behind the scenes for their own selfish gain, will have nowhere to hide. The truth is creeping closer, and when it emerges, it will shake the foundations of those who have thrived on deception.
CAF, FIFA, and COSAFA will not just be annoyed when the truth about this injunction comes to light—they will be deeply saddened. Saddened that individuals entrusted with the growth of the game could stoop so low as to derail an entire football administration for selfish reasons. Saddened that while the world moves forward, some elements in Zambian football are busy pulling the sport backwards.
Now that the path is clear, let us move forward with integrity. Let the elections proceed, let football take center stage, and let Zambian football reclaim its rightful place on the continent.
The time for petty squabbles is over—let’s get back to the game!
Sean Kingston, the well-known singer of “Beautiful Girls,” and his mother, Janice Turner, have been found guilty of fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a federal trial.
The singer, 35, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, was placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring, while Turner was taken into custody. The singer must additionally post a surety bond of a home valued at $500,000 and $200,000 in cash, per NBC6 South Florida. Their sentencing is scheduled for July 11.
The trial began on Monday, March 24, and concluded with closing arguments on Friday, March 28. The jury reached their decision after three and a half hours of deliberation, per NBC6.
Kingston, who did not testify during the trial, and his mother were convicted of defrauding several businesses, including multiple jewelers, a television installment company and a high-end car dealership. The total sum of items the pair obtained exceeded $1 million, prosecutors said.
The judge decided Turner was a flight risk, partly because she did testify, per Local10. In footage the outlet published, Kingston can be heard telling U.S. Marshall agents to “protect my mother” as he was escorted from the courthouse.
During the trial, Fort Lauderdale jeweler Moshe Edery testified that he lost his credibility after a failed $285,000 transfer from Kingston, NBC6 reported on Thursday, March 27.
“I’m being scammed,” Edery recounted on the stand.
The pair were arrested in May 2024 and made their first court appearance in July. They were each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud. Turner would often ensure deliveries and wire transfers, only to send fraudulent transfers instead, according to the indictment. The scheme went on for several years.
During the trial, the defense argued that the prosecution didn’t have evidence that Turner and Kingston intended to commit fraud and said some of the alleged victims got their money and merchandise back, per NBC6.
The singer, who was born in Miami and raised in Jamaica, first rose to fame internationally for his 2007 hit song “Beautiful Girls.” His breakthrough continued throughout the 2010s, including a collaboration with Justin Bieber and an appearance on the hit Disney Channel show Suite Life on Deck.
American rapper, Young Scooter was sh0t and k!lled on his 39th birthday on Friday in a freak accident that occurred while fleeing a confrontation with police.
The hip-hop artist, whose real name is Kenneth Edward Bailey, died at Grady Marcus Trauma Center in Atlanta after sustaining an injury to his leg while jumping a fence, TMZ first reported.
Cops responded to a home in the southeast part of the city after receiving reports about sh0ts fired and a female being dragged back inside as she attempted to flee, 11 Alive reported, citing Atlanta Police Department Lt. Andrew Smith.
When officers arrived at the scene, a man opened the door and quickly slammed it in their face before two men fled the rear of the home when they saw cops establishing a perimeter, according to the outlet.
“One male returned back into the house. The other male jumped two fences as he was fleeing. When officers located him on the other side of the fence, he appeared to have suffered an injury to his leg,” Smith said during a press conference Friday night.
Bailey later d!ed at the hospital, and the Atlanta Medical Examiner’s Office has said the rapper’s cause of de@th is still under investigation, 11 Alive reported.
Smith, who did not identify Bailey, denied initial reports that Young Scooter was fatally sh0t by officers.
“Just to be very clear, the injury that was sustained was not via the officers on scene. It was when the male was fleeing,” he said.
Bailey was born in South Carolina and move to Atlanta with his family when he was 9, according to Billboard.
He had his first regional hit, “Colombia,” in 2012, the same year he signed to fellow ATL rapper Future’s Freebanz record label. Two years later, he teamed up with Future, Juicy J, and Young Thug on ““DI$Function,” the outlet said, adding that he was featured on the latter’s “Guwop” in 2016 with Quavo & Offset of Migos.
The track peaked at No. 45 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In 2018, he appeared on “Jet Lag” with Future and Juice WRLD, which hit No. 72 on Billboard’s Top 100 Songs.
I WANTED TO BE HER BEN 10, MARRY, AND HAVE TWO BABIES REFLECTS CINORI XO ON GETTING LOANS TO TAKE MUTALE MWANZA ON A DATE Speaking to SML TV, rapper Cinori Xo opened up about his date with media personality Mutale Mwanza. The rapper made a date request post in August of 2021 on Facebook post. The request that immediately caught the attention of social users reached Mutale Mwanza, who then agreed to go on a date with the rapper.
Cinori Xo expressed disappointment when the media personality failed to show up at the date and stopped picking up calls. The rapper had gotten a 5,000 Zambian Kwacha loan to book the venue, deco, and guitarist in efforts to impress the media personality during the date. The young Cinori Xo was determined to win his love interest whether people thought it was delusion of arotomania or not. At the encouragement of his few close friends to keep pursuing his love interest, the rapper had another idea, to get a guitarist and plead for her attention with melodies through Facebook live – efforts which proved futile.
At this point, his only friend who was in support of the idea decided to play his last card, a sympathy card! Cinori Xo put on some crocodile tears whilst his friend recorded a video that would later secure him a date with Mutale Mwanza after it went viral. The rapper got a call for the media personality in her efforts to check on his wellbeing and arrange for their official date.
For the not so well to do rapper, it was pressure to deliver, with debts acquired to finance the previous date, the rapper was left with no other option but add some more credit to secure funds to book a venue though collateral loans as no one was willing to lend him money, including his label at time Kalandanya Music Promotion as they did not see it as a befitting venture.
With Mutale’s confirmation after excusing herself for being busy the previous time, the rapper booked the whole Latitude 15° for the date. The two exchanged gifts, but Cinori Xo revealed that, contrary to public knowledge, he never received the 40,000 Zambian Kwacha as it was noted during the live stream of the date. In the live video, it was noted that Cinori Xo received a box present with a wine(Remmy Martins) and a stash of cash amount to 40,000 Zambian Kwacha.
The rapper revealed that, off camera, Mutale Mwanza said to him,”I’m gonna pretend to give you some cash, but the cash is not mine, I have to give it back to the owner.” When Simon Mwewa asked what his response was, he said, “It’s Mutale Mwanza, man. I was starstruck, man. I was just like, whatever you say.” Was it just showbiz as usual for the media personality?
During the date, Cinori Xo proposed but got bluntly rejected as Mutale Mwanza said she was in a relationship but offered him some compensatory advice. The rapper had also proposed to take the media personality to Paris, despite Mutale Mwanza accepting – the trip never happened as the younger rapper did not have the necessary resources.
Cinori Xo further told Simon Mwewa that the date was good for their image as it gave them some publicity, and for Cinori, he was given 10,000 Zambian Kwacha off that 40,000 Zambian Kwacha – something he said, helped him pay off his debts.
The rapper’s love for Mutale Mwanza was off the roof as he tattooed her name on his forearm(cubital fossa area) and wrote her a song,’PARIS.’ But many would wonder what his intentions were if Mutale Mwanza said yes given their huge age difference? Apart from the charisma, romance, and “the things she missed,” he said – what were really his goals?
Well, Simon Mwewa asked, “What were you hoping would happen?” To which Cinori Xo responded, “I was hoping that she would give me a chance to get to know her, to start a relationship…have like two babies and get married.”
The rapper who hoped to be Mutale Mwanza’s Ben 10 seemed very determined with no regrets of his past decisions and still professed his love for the media personality, and wanting not only to be Mutale Mwanza’s son Huncho’s stepfather but also give him siblings to be playing with.- Zedify Online
12 Ways of Incriminating Yourself: How Amos Chanda is kissing Edgar Lungu With “Big Treasonable Insults” While Chewing HH’s 2026 Expired Biscuits at Community House
Amos Chanda is playing with big national fire in his pants because President Lungu is unfairly demeaning and maliciously attacking with treasonable insults is the main password for 2026 regime change in the eyes of more than 15 millions Zambians today. For this Chanda to now start insulting and undermining ECL, the king or king maker of 2026, a president who governed Zambia better than HH, a president who left the cost of living lower and affordable for the masses, a president who left visible legacies of new hospitals, airports, schools, colleges, universities, police/army/prison/ZAF houses, modern bridges, highways, etc, this Chanda is fooling himself for serious political problems and legal nightmares post August 2026. This must be minuted everywhere!
By Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba
Introduction
On 12th November, 2022, the Paramount Chief of the Bemba Speaking people, HRH, Dr. Henry Kanyanta Sosala published an article titled “AMOS CHANDA LIED ABOUT THE BEMBA ROYAL ESTABLISHMENT ISSUING A STATEMENT AGAINST HIS INCARCERATION”. In this article, HRH, Chitimukulu responded to Amos Chanda’s media lies in the words of Robert Sternberg who is an expert in “Stupidity” as follows:
…”This kind of stupidity comes with displaced ambition; such stupid persons believe that because they are so smart; the world does and should revolve around them. They are gripped by the omniscience fallacy. They are convinced that they know more than everyone else and can influence public opinion to their advantage and that others are just big idiots whom they can easily manipulate”.
When you read Sunday’s 50 paragraphs long story in News Diggers of Amos Chanda on Lungu’s presidency, you will fully agree with Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s position on our brother! In this article, allow me submit my observations, interpretations and conclusions from Chanda’s bulky media interview by highlighting 12 self incriminating facts from his own words:
1. The Diggers Newspaper of Sunday, 23/03/2225 zoomed a headline story entitled “Amos Narrates How He Stepped in to Lead, Guide (govern) the Country During Lungu’s Absence”. In this story, Mr. Amos Chanda, an ordinary state house press aide told Zambians that he must be treated as “Lungu’s Co-Former President” because he “ruled” this country at “different times” wisely and alone without the knowledge and consent of (1) the actual elected president his boss, and (2) outside and against the Republican Constitution. Article 91 of the 2016 Constitution provides for the “Presidency and vesting of executive authority” as follows: (1) There shall be a President of the Republic who shall be the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force.(2) The executive authority of the State vests in the President and, subject to this Constitution, shall be exercised directly by the President or through public officers or other persons appointed by the President.
2. Further, Article 109 of the 2016 Constitution provides for “Performance of executive functions during absence of President” and Amos Chanda as State House Press Aide is not close to exercising this presidential function anywhere. The Supreme Law says: (1) If the President leaves Zambia or is absent from office, the Vice-President shall perform the executive functions specified, in writing, by the President until the President returns to office or revokes the authority. (2) Where the Vice-President is incapable of performing the executive functions, as specified under clause (1), the President shall appoint a member of the Cabinet to perform the executive functions.
3. Going by the the aforementioned Constitutional procedure, it is clear that a state house staff regardless of their rank and title or any presidential aide or indeed advisor does not come close or anywhere near to be that person to act and exercise presidential powers in the presence or absence of the president and/or or govern the country on his behalf directly and indirectly. This is where all law abiding Zambians must take keen interest in Amos Chanda’s self confessions that “he used to guide, lead or govern Zambia in the absence of President Lungu without the knowledge and consent of ECL himself.
4. In a special interview with University of Zambia academic and political historian, Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa in 2022, President Edgar Lungu as Former President then revealed and warned his successor, Hikainde Hichilema that there will be many times, dubious characters, sometimes very close to him that will act in his name or abuse their proximity to the Presidency. It’s criminal and must never be taken lightly! This is where Chanda is trapped and buried for 2026 if he does not repent, reform and stop this seemingly Community House agenda.
5. Under Article 93. (1) and (2) of our 2016 Zambian Constitution, we have clear provisions outlining “Confirmation of presidential decisions and instructions” as follows: (1) A decision or instruction of the President shall be in writing under the President’s signature; (2) The signature of the President on an instrument shall be under Public Seal. In all the three instances Amos Chanda claimed to have acted as president or exercised presidential powers, he had no written instructions from the President. This entails us that Amos Chanda used to and did commit treasonable crimes under our Constitution.
6. In his News Diggers story, Mr. Amos Chanda is like a foolish idiot visiting a Greek palace and decides to cleverly revenge against the host king during his courtesy greetings by using ‘a strange language’ to insult everyone. In his wisdom, the foolish idiot is sure that the host king and his followers don’t understand the ‘strange language’. However, the visiting foolish idiot is unaware that his ‘strange language’ is their second mother tongue and they were closely listening on how he was insulting their king and everyone. Morally, this is where Chanda is standing before Lungu today! Instead of undermining the king, he has completely undressed himself like a foolish Donna Fish!
7. For God’s sake, it is absolutely unethical for Chanda to maliciously and falsely humiliate President Lungu as someone who was a careless, irresponsible and weak Republican President during his reign and that Amos Chanda himself as Press Aide had difficulty times “to run the country” in ECL’s absence at different times. From his story, Chanda is telling us that “without him at state house as a defector president” in ECL’s absences, Zambia would have crashed at some point”. For the sake good records, when did President Lungu declare a state of emergency and went unreachable in Mfuwe for Amos Chanda to act as Republican President? How long was that state of emergency?
8. And Chanda’s revelations about President Lungu’s presidency are factually untrue and could be deemed as pure Communist House sponsored political propaganda and malice against ECL. In the Diggers Newspaper, Amos Chanda is falsely projecting 12 colors of strange, bitter, unreliable, dangerous, unthankful, treacherous, unpredictable, unpatriotic and mad chameleons by pretending to be kissing President Lungu but in the actual sense, he is politically undressing and undermining him to have been a dull, weak, careless, incompetent and irresponsible president.
9. I personally worked as President Lungu’s Political Advisor too at state house and know ECL’s presidency and style of leadership very well. From my day to day experience of closely working with and under him, ECL is a wise, intelligent, professional m, responsible, hardworking and respectful leader: totally different to what Mr. Chanda is trying to maliciously project in the media today. Therefore, Amos Chanda’s utterances do not just undermine, attack and insult ECL’s presidency to invoke smiles at Community House, Chanda’s confessions must be treated as Julian Paul Assange’s Wikileaks for and against Zambia. He must repent and stop now or he will be made to account post August 2026.
10. Generally, a creature must never think or begin to project itself to be more powerful, important and wiser than its creator. When that happens, it is a clear symptom of dangerous low IQ, foolish arrogance or advanced madness. Politically, Amos Chanda is a simple creature whose political creator is President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. That is the case for myself, Isaac Chipampe, Kaizer Zulu, George Chellah, Hibene Mwiinga or Sikwana Lukangaba during PF times. It is the case of Levy Ngoma, Christopher Mundia, Chipo Mwanawasa, Clayson Hamasaka or Jito Kayumba under HH today. Everywhere, there is no employee who is more important and powerful than his employer.
11. Strangely, the News Diggers story shows that Amos Chanda was and is more clever, powerful and intelligent than ECL and everyone who was at state house during his time. He falsely undermines and covertly insults more educated and experienced people like Dr. Simon Miti who was both secretary to cabinet and presidential principal secretary when Chanda was at State House as a mere journalist, not as advisor. During Chanda’s time, Dr. Simon Miti was the most senior, most educated and most experienced presidential staff. During his time, there was Kaiser Zulu, Hon. Freedom Sikazwe, Hibene Mwiinga and Sikwana Lukangaba as Lungu’s advisors. And how come non of them is not claiming today that “he was at different times “Acting Republican President’ in the absence of Lungu”.
12. By the way, a press aide at state house is a chief journalist and should never be projected as someone superior to “sector presidential advisors” like Political, Legal or Economy Advisors. How can “the Presidency” be reduced to a presidential reporter like Amos Chanda, just a practicing journalist to be “making key presidential decisions without the Vice President, sector state house advisers, presidential principal secretary, sector cabinet ministers or secretary to cabinet? In his News Diggers interview, Amos Chanda is telling hot lies by kissing Edgar Lungu With “Big Treasonous Insults” While Chewing HH’s 2026 Expired Biscuits at Community House
Conclusion
When HH is voted out of power in August 2026, it will only be fair Mr. Amos Chanda himself, President Lungu, Zambians, the Presidency and our Supreme Law that this matter is brought to legal scrutiny and allow stakeholders to assess the extent, integrity, validity and consequences of what our “Co-Sixth Republican President” in Mr. Amos Chanda was doing at State House by “governing, guiding and leading the country in Lungu’s absence” without any constitutional provision or legal backing. Truth be told, Amos Chanda has confirmed for himself in the Diggers Newspaper that he a treasonous criminal to be reported and tried in 2026.
And if this country expressly allows all mad chameleons who at some point worked at state house like me or Chanda as “Presidential Aides or Advisors” to be coughing and vomiting whatever they want in bars, toilets, night clubs, markets, brothels or media outlets especially on matters that border on either the presidency, state security or confidential matters, then we shall become a banana nation, chaotic state and jungle society. This Chanda is running a dangerous legal and political pathway for both himself and Zambians.

MWACHEPA SANA BA UPND – THE ILL-CONCEIVED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT WILL BE DEFEATED BY THE PEOPLE
29 March 2025
The nation of Zambia needs a national restoration and development program to restore it back to its founding ethos and values. We have moved away from our shared national values, from our unity in diversity, from having an indivisible One Zambia One Nation, from our shared national wealth, from our shared vision and from our shared future. Our value of Zambia as a democratic multi-party republic has been completely snuffed out.
This is far from being the Zambia we want but which, by all means, must be restored and so any dictatorial tendencies or any manoeuvres to impose the whims of a small clique of selfish individuals upon the greater interests of Zambians at large must be frowned upon and will be nipped in the bud.
This country does not lack quality leadership. There have been two land-mark, epoch making events in our history which symbolise or embody the soul of who we are. In 1964, we declared that we are a sovereign people not willing to be vassals of any people and in 1991 when some of our leaders departed from that, we responded and restored what we fought for in 1964.
We therefore cannot allow a clique of people to hijack our national destiny and destroy what we have struggled to achieve and attain in the last 60 years. We cannot and will not have a few people who, out of sheer desperation to maintain exclusive power for themselves present us with a poisoned chalice in the form of ill-conceived constitutional amendments. We thank God that a broad spectrum of our society including the Church Mother Bodies, Civil Society, the Opposition and patriotic Zambians, have seen through and are not ready to accept the mischief being advanced by the UPND in government.
While you the UPND are fighting for the preservation of your leaders’ privileged lifestyles and wealth whose source we know not where it has come from, the rest of us are fighting for the very soul of this nation. We put you on notice that like the colonial govt in 1964, the One-Party State in 1991, Zambians always came out on top and 2026 will be no different.
Gary Nkombo’s Firing: A Political Move, Not a Corruption Issue
By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma
The recent dismissal of Gary Nkombo from his ministerial position has been portrayed by UPND officials as a result of corruption allegations. However, this narrative is far from the truth. The reasons behind his removal are far more politically motivated than they are about corruption, as evidenced by the fact that other high-ranking officials with known corruption ties, such as Sylvia Masebo and Makozo Chikote, have not faced similar repercussions.
If corruption were truly the issue at hand, then the case of Sylvia Masebo, who was involved in the scandal surrounding the 61 containers of medicine found at a private residence, would have been a clear trigger for her dismissal. Similarly, Makozo Chikote, whose name has also been associated with corruption in various forms, should have faced the same fate as Nkombo if corruption was the real reason for his sacking. But this has not been the case, and the lack of action against them speaks volumes about the true motives behind Gary Nkombo’s removal.
Now, before anyone jumps to conclusions, let me clarify: I am not defending Gary Nkombo’s involvement in corruption activities, nor am I suggesting that he is innocent. It is possible that he may be entangled in issues of corruption, as many politicians are, but that is not the reason why he has been fired. The true reason lies much deeper, and it revolves around one simple fact: Gary Nkombo represents a threat to President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership and future aspirations.
Nkombo is not just a politician with influence; he is a force within the UPND who has garnered significant support from within the party. His rise in prominence, coupled with his ambition to become president, has unsettled many within the party, especially those who are in positions of power. What we are witnessing is not a fight against corruption, but a political maneuver to eliminate a rival who could potentially challenge the current president’s authority in the future
There are whispers within the UPND that many members of the party, including those who are close to the president, are concerned about Nkombo’s growing influence. He is seen as someone who could galvanize support within the party, especially from those who feel disenfranchised or who disagree with the current administration’s direction. But because of the president’s firm grip on power, many party members are too scared to openly voice their support for Nkombo.
In short, Gary Nkombo’s removal is less about corruption and more about power dynamics within the UPND. His sacking is a direct result of his potential threat to President Hakainde Hichilema’s political standing and the future trajectory of the party. As Nkombo aspires to be president, those who feel threatened by his ambition have sought to neutralize him in a move to solidify their own positions within the party.
The truth is clear: the UPND has failed to take similar action against other individuals with corruption allegations hanging over them because they are not seen as a threat to Hichilema’s leadership. However, Nkombo’s rising influence, his ambitions, and his support base within the party have made him a political liability for the current regime. Thus, the focus has shifted from addressing corruption to containing political threats.
In the end, this is not just about corruption; it is about preserving power. And if we are to be honest, the UPND’s actions regarding Gary Nkombo’s dismissal are a reflection of the power struggles that are inevitable in any political system, particularly when there are figures within the party who pose a challenge to the established leadership.
THE EXIT OF GARRY NKOMBO AND THE HYPOCRISY IN ZAMBIAN POLITICS HAS HH MADE A POLITICAL MISTAKE?
Warning ⚠️: This is a long and detailed article. If you prefer short content, feel free to scroll past. But if you’re ready for critical analysis, read on.
As I was out searching for food and away from social media, my phone was flooded with messages, calls and images about the dismissal of Hon. Garry Nkombo. Many people asked me why he had been removed and my take, but my response remained the same I had no idea. Even now, I do not know the reasons behind it, and I respect the decision of the appointing authority. And my take on this incident is highlighted in this article.
A quick look at social media showed that nearly every platform was dominated by this news. Some people celebrated his dismissal, others speculated about the reasons, and many engaged in heated debates.
After observing these reactions, I took a step back to reflect critically.
One thing stood out no one acknowledged President Hakainde Hichilema for making the difficult decision to remove a close ally, a man who had stood by him through thick and thin though this shouldn’t be a measure when it comes to disciplinary actions in governance. Regardless of the reasons behind Nkombo’s dismissal, it is worth noting that President Hichilema did not hesitate to act, even when it involved someone close to him.
A few months ago, when former PF ministers were convicted for arson, corruption-related offenses, some politicians were quick to accuse Hichilema of targeting individuals based on regional affiliations even when he was not a judge at the court of law. Today, he has dismissed one of his own, yet those same voices remain silent, failing to recognize this as an example of leadership that applies the law equally.
I have noticed a troubling pattern when the President appoints qualified individuals from other regions, we celebrate and congratulate them, as it should be. However, when he appoints someone from his own region, accusations and criticism emerge. The truth is undeniable: Hakainde Hichilema has made a genuine effort to provide opportunities for all Zambians to serve their country.
My appeal to fellow Zambians is simple let us put our country first. When the President takes similar actions against individuals from other regions, let us not cry foul or claim political persecution. Let us be consistent in our judgment and hold all leaders accountable, regardless of where they come from.If President Hakainde Hichilema made this decision in the best interest of all ten provinces, I commend him. Zambia must always come first.
At this stage of our country’s development, progress can only be achieved if we prioritize national interests over personal or tribal affiliations. Too often, we defend individuals even when they are in the wrong simply because they are our relatives or from our region. This mindset has hindered our fight against corruption and slowed national development.
Now, let’s look at the state of our opposition. Who among them is presenting a clear economic agenda to all ten provinces? Most rely on a divide-and-rule strategy, offering nothing beyond cheap propaganda. Their politically stagnant minds provide no tangible solutions for Zambia’s progress. This is why I worry about the country’s future after President Hichilema leaves office in 2031. Given the current mediocrity among opposition leaders, we risk electing someone even worse than former President Edgar Lungu.
What happened today should serve as a lesson to everyone in government. No matter where you come from, if your actions warrant dismissal, do not blame President Hichilema. Leadership comes with accountability, and no one is above scrutiny.
To those celebrating Nkombo’s removal, I urge you to reflect rather than rejoice. Ask yourself: If you were in his position, what would you do differently? How would you serve the Zambian people better? If we fail to learn from these moments, we risk repeating the same mistakes when it is our turn to be in those offices especially my fellow youths.
To Hon. Nkombo, I wish you the best in your future endeavors brother man. Be cautious of opportunistic opposition figures who may try to exploit your situation for their own political gain. Many are already speaking on your behalf without even knowing the true reasons behind your dismissal. Most importantly, seek wisdom and keep moving forward.
To everyone holding office, ask yourself this: If President Hakainde Hichilema can dismiss his own close ally, what makes you immune to the same fate? Be humble, listen to the concerns of ordinary citizens, and treat everyone with respect, regardless of their status. Show kindness and humility, and you will not only last longer in your position but also earn the respect of the people. And if you ever fall, the community will welcome you back with dignity, not shame.

“Father” Frank Bwalya’s Shameless U-turn From Calling President Hakainde Hichilema Useless to Praise Singing for Survival
By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma It was not too long ago when “Father” Frank Bwalya, then a senior member of the Socialist Party (SP), stood before the nation and thundered, “We have in State House a useless President,” directly referring to President Hakainde Hichilema. He claimed HH was a useless President because he had failed to uplift the lives of ordinary citizens. He sounded so sure, so bold, and so convinced, and many Zambians, tired of hardship and broken promises, nodded in agreement. For a moment, he became the voice of the people. Fast forward to today, the same “Father” Frank Bwalya has done the unthinkable. Without a shred of shame, he has abandoned his so-called convictions and tiptoed into the United Party for National Development (UPND) camp, led by the very man he once labeled as useless. Not only has he defected, but he has also been shamelessly rewarded with a seat on the UPND media team, a reward not for integrity but for his proven skill in political somersaults.
From calling HH a failure, “Father” Bwalya is now the loudest cheerleader, singing praises at every opportunity and desperately trying to convince Zambians that the President is suddenly doing great things. Really? Are we supposed to be impressed? No sir, this is not loyalty. This is not patriotism. This is pure stomach politics, plain, desperate, and disgraceful.
Frank Bwalya’s U-turn is not just laughable; it is insulting to the intelligence of the Zambian people. Prices are soaring. Poverty is deepening. The economy is worse than it was when Bwalya first lashed out. Yet, now that he has been fed, we are supposed to believe that all is well? Does he really think Zambians are fools? That we have suddenly become blind and deaf to our own suffering?
In fact, one must ask, does the UPND media team even believe Bwalya themselves? Or are they simply using him as a disposable loudspeaker to echo tired propaganda? Deep down, do they genuinely think Frank Bwalya has any credibility left? Do they seriously believe that when he opens his mouth, Zambians listen? The whole nation knows him for what he is, mushanina bwali, a man whose only consistent ideology is the pursuit of a meal.
The real tragedy here is not just Bwalya’s shameless flip-flop, but the fact that those who appointed him have mercilessly exposed his desperation to the public. He has now reduced himself to a political cartoon, a walking joke who imagines that Zambians have no memory, no discernment, and no sense of history. What a miscalculation.
Let us be clear. When things are wrong, they are wrong, whether you are in opposition or government. The truth is not a switch you flip depending on who is feeding you. Integrity is not a costume you put on when it suits you and remove when the stakes get high. Real leadership demands principle, not convenience.
Frank Bwalya has now officially enrolled himself in the permanent league of political clowns, alongside the likes of President Nevers Mumba, men who have traded honor for personal survival. The people are watching and no serious Zambian is buying this show.
Chiinda Slams Government’s Push for Constitutional Amendments Without Public Consent
Munali Constituency aspiring Member of Parliament, Chrispin Chiinda, has strongly condemned the government’s sudden move to amend the Republican Constitution without broad-based public consultation, a situation he said that it threatens Zambia’s democratic fabric.
Speaking when he featured on millennium tv on Friday, Chiinda expressed shock and dismay at the fast-tracked constitutional amendment process announced by President Hakainde Hichilema, which he says has excluded the voices of ordinary Zambians and critical stakeholders.
“It is alarming that the President can boldly claim that Zambians have agreed to amend the constitution when no meaningful consultation has taken place. This is nothing but a constitutional coup,” Chiinda declared. “As a nation, we have always valued participatory constitution-making processes, yet today, the will of the people is being sidelined.”
At the center of the controversy is the proposed amendment to Article 68, which seeks to remove the limit on the number of Members of Parliament that the President can nominate. Currently, the law allows a maximum of eight nominated MPs, but under the proposed changes, this limit would be scrapped, giving the President unchecked power to fill Parliament with handpicked appointees.
“If we allow this amendment, the President will have the power to flood Parliament with as many nominated MPs as he desires. This will completely erode the principle of representative democracy and undermine the legitimacy of the National Assembly,” Chiinda said. “We cannot sit back and allow the executive to bulldoze such an important matter without the people’s consent.”
Chiinda further questioned the suspicious timing of the amendments, which come less than two years before Zambia’s 2026 general elections. He also raised concerns about proposed changes to Article 52(6), which would allow elections to proceed without fresh nominations if a candidate withdraws a change that many fear could be abused to manipulate electoral outcomes.
“We are not against constitutional reforms, but we are against their abuse. Why the rush? Why now? Let us go to the 2026 elections under the current 2016 constitution, and after that, we can engage in genuine, inclusive constitutional reforms,” Chiinda insisted.
Civil society organizations and opposition leaders have echoed similar sentiments, warning that Zambia risks sliding into constitutional instability and political turmoil if the government proceeds without public buy-in.
“The constitution belongs to the people, not to the President or the ruling party,” Chiinda added. “We are ready to defend it for the sake of our democracy, for the sake of future generations.”
War Veteran Blessed Geza’s Home Petrol-Bombed In Sanyati The home of Zimbabwean war veteran Blessed Geza was petrol-bombed in Sanyati last night. This comes just a week after an initial attack where windows were broken.
Geza is a vocal critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid for a third term. He is also the face of the planned March 31 demonstrations opposing Mnangagwa’s alleged attempt to extend his rule beyond 2028.
Renowned journalist Hopewell Chin’ono confirmed the attack, stating:
“The home of Zimbabwean war veteran and former secret service officer Blessed Geza was petrol-bombed last night in Sanyati. The massive property was first damaged last week when windows were broken, and then petrol-bombed last night.”
Authorities have not yet issued a formal statement on the attack.
Political Tensions On The Rise
The incident comes amid rising tensions within the ruling ZANU-PF party. Reports indicate a deepening power struggle between President Mnangagwa and his deputy, General Constantino Chiwenga.
According to Chin’ono:
“Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANUPF, is in the middle of a nasty power struggle between Mnangagwa and his deputy, General Chiwenga. The power struggle was triggered by Mnangagwa’s attempt to prolong his term of office beyond 2028 when his second term ends.”
Security services are reportedly on high alert as opposition voices grow louder.
String Of Firebomb Attacks The attack on Geza’s home follows a string of arson incidents targeting properties linked to high-profile figures. Vehicles were set alight outside businesses associated with John Mangudya, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Wicknell Chivayo, and DA Motors in Harare and Goromonzi.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi detailed the pattern of attacks:
“The vehicles were driven to locations in Avondale, Highlands, Newlands and Goromonzi between midnight and 4AM where the drivers parked and started the fires before jumping into waiting getaway vehicles.”
Nick Mangwana, the Permanent Secretary for Information, dismissed these incidents, calling them “amateurish stunts.”
“Wow, what a mastermind plan! They collect some clunkers, drive them to a spot outside some place, set them ablaze, and then sprint away like lunatics. And the grand strategy behind this ‘genius move’ is… to what? Scare someone? Please.”
South Africa Ranks 5th Among the World’s Most Dangerous Countries to Visit in 2025
A new Numbeo study has placed South Africa as the fifth most dangerous country to visit in 2025, based on crime index ratings across 147 nations.
The country ranks just behind Afghanistan, highlighting persistent safety concerns for both residents and travelers.
At the top of the list, Venezuela was ranked the most dangerous destination, scoring 80.7 out of 100.
It was followed by Papua New Guinea (80.3), Haiti (78.9), and Afghanistan (75.1). South Africa recorded a crime index score of 74.7, placing it among the most high-risk locations for visitors.
Pietermaritzburg Tops Global Crime Index as Most Dangerous City Based on city rankings, the Numbeo crime index ranked Pietermaritzburg as the city with the highest crime rate, scoring 82.0. It was followed closely by Pretoria (81.8), Caracas in Venezuela (81.5), and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea (81.2). Three other South African cities—Johannesburg (80.8), Durban (80.6), and Port Elizabeth (78.1)—also made the top ten, highlighting the country’s significant urban crime challenges. The list also featured San Pedro Sula in Honduras (79.7), Memphis in the United States (77.4), and Salvador in Brazil (76.7).
Factors Contributing to South Africa’s Ranking The Numbeo crime index evaluates safety by considering multiple factors, including:
The perceived safety of residents and visitors during both daytime and nighttime Reported cases of violent crimes such as homicide, robbery, and assault Incidents of harassment, discrimination, and burglary These elements combined contribute to the overall ranking of countries on the safety index.
South Africa Tops Africa’s List of Most Dangerous Countries Within Africa, South Africa holds the highest crime index, making it the most dangerous country to visit on the continent. Nigeria and Angola ranked second and third, respectively, in terms of travel risks.
While South Africa remains a major tourist destination, these findings underscore growing security concerns that travelers should consider when planning their visits.
Sources within Zimbabwe’s security apparatus have revealed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is considering declaring a state of emergency in the coming days, as tensions escalate ahead of planned nationwide protests on March 31. The protests, fronted by military-backed war veterans led by Blessed Geza, aim to oust Mnangagwa from power. The protests have sparked growing concerns within the government about the potential for widespread unrest.
The mounting unrest comes in the wake of a series of unsettling incidents, including the ominous burning of cars outside the premises of Mnangagwa’s business allies in Harare and surrounding areas. Sources close to the situation suggest these acts of arson serve as a stark warning of the trouble ahead, with war veterans accusing the businessmen of financing Mnangagwa’s 2030 campaign to extend his rule beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms. This move is seen as a direct challenge to Zimbabwe’s democratic framework and has stirred significant political unease.
The protests have ignited a fierce power struggle within Mnangagwa’s government, with Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga also embroiled in a battle to secure the nation’s top position. Chiwenga, once seen as Mnangagwa’s closest ally, has become a significant rival in the race for succession. This internal political rift adds to the already volatile situation, with Mnangagwa reportedly seeking ways to solidify his hold on power.
In a move perceived by many as part of a broader coup-proofing strategy, Mnangagwa recently dismissed Zimbabwe National Army commander Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe. Sanyatwe has been demoted to the position of Sports Minister, a surprising shift that analysts believe is part of Mnangagwa’s efforts to solidify his position ahead of potential unrest. Major-General Emmanuel Matatu, a figure from Gokwe in Midlands province, has been appointed to replace Sanyatwe. The reshuffle is seen as a tactical maneuver to further entrench Mnangagwa’s control over the military, ensuring loyalty within the ranks.
Amidst the growing tensions, Zimbabwe’s police forces have been heavily deployed across the country, ostensibly to block or break up the planned protests. The police presence has been ramped up in major cities, signaling the government’s readiness to respond to any potential unrest. The military, however, has remained conspicuously silent on the matter, instead issuing a warning to civilians not to wear military regalia, a move that has raised eyebrows given the usual show of force by the army under such circumstances.
A state of emergency, which can suspend normal constitutional procedures in times of crisis, is one option the government may pursue to restore order. The declaration would grant the government enhanced powers, including the possibility of implementing a curfew, restricting movement during specific hours to maintain public order. Such measures have been historically used by governments around the world to quell political unrest, but they also raise concerns over human rights violations, particularly given Zimbabwe’s past under previous states of emergency.
Zimbabwe has faced significant human rights abuses under emergency powers in the past, leading to skepticism regarding the true motives behind any potential declaration. Civil liberties, including freedom of speech and assembly, have been severely curtailed during times of political instability, with opposition groups and activists often bearing the brunt of government crackdowns.
As the political situation intensifies, the world will be watching closely to see whether President Mnangagwa will indeed take the drastic step of declaring a state of emergency. The outcome of the March 31 protests, and the government’s response to them, will likely have profound implications for Zimbabwe’s future political landscape and its commitment to democratic principles.
The bullhorn-powered war of words between Satanists and Catholics boiled over into brawling and a handful of arrests Friday during an extraordinary event at the Kansas Capitol that pushed boundaries of free speech and the separation of church and state.
After about two hours of speeches, prayers and sign waving among hundreds of people mostly segregated by barricades staffed by law enforcement officers, Satanic Grotto president Michael Stewart, with supporters and reporters in tow, entering the Statehouse to conduct what he had described as a black mass. He was warned at the door to the visitors’ center that any formal protest inside the building that violated a permit limiting his religious expression to the lawn or steps of the Capitol would result in his arrest for trespassing.
In the rotunda, Stewart began the rebellious form of a mass and was interrupted by three people intent on stopping was could be interpreted as a mockery of their faith. An unidentified man and woman, with young kids at their side, physically intervened to stop Stewart. He turned away from them. Counter-protester Marcus Schroeder joined the fray and twice reached to take papers from Stewart’s hand. Stewart responded by punching Schroeder in the face twice. More than half a dozen Capitol Police wrestled Stewart to the floor to make the arrest.
“I’m not resisting. I’m not resisting. I’m not resisting,” Stewart repeatedly yelled.
Schroeder, who wore a shirt declaring “Death is not welcome here,” wasn’t arrested by Capitol Police. In an interview, he defended his maneuvering to thwart Stewart.
“I tried to take his papers. He punched me in the face,” he said.
After the area cleared, two other satanists tried to pick up where Stewart left off and were taken into custody. One other person was cuffed and taken away by law enforcement outside the Capitol on Friday. An individual grabbed Stewart by the legs in a bid to stop Stewart from stomping on crackers intended to represent those used in a Catholic mass to represent the consecrated body and soul of Christ. In that brief exchange, Stewart also punched the guy before law enforcement stepped in.
Hundreds of Christians upset with an organization’s plan to conduct a satanic black mass at the Capitol delivered a robust counter-protest to emphasize their disdain for followers of Satanic Grotto. Both sides of the debate used bullhorns to punctuate their messages, creating a blended sound that was difficult for anybody to hear clearly. (Tim Carpenter/Kansas Reflector)
“He was was trying to tackle me to get to the cracker underneath,” Stewart said. “I was able to kind of fend him off. I do think he may have picked up the crumbled cracker and ate it. Did I get physical with him? Yes.”
The opposition The colorful display of affection and affliction for organized religion culminated attempts by Gov. Laura Kelly, Attorney General Kris Kobach, leaders of the Kansas Legislature and Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, to derail the demonstration planned by Satanic Grotto.
Kelly had the group’s permit amended so no protest could transpire inside the Capitol. Legislative leaders modified policy regarding use of the Capitol to specifically target Satanic Grotto. Senate President Ty Masterson, R-Wichita, said the First Amendment didn’t protect offensive speech or violations of law.
Francis Slobodnik, a Topeka representative of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property, told hundreds of Catholics gathered on the south side of the Capitol that state public officials shouldn’t have allowed satanists to assemble on public property. He said the event reflected a misguided understanding of freedom of speech and religion and a lack of appreciation for how a black mass represented worship of Satan.
“Today’s horrific event, the first of its kind in the history of Kansas, is a sacrilege,” Slobodnik said. “Of course, there have been terrible crimes and injustices that have happened in our state over the years. However, nothing in our past compares with what is happening today where God is being directly challenged on the state Capitol grounds. The state Capitol represents all of us.”
He praised the people present at the rally to stand in opposition to Satanic Grotto, referring to them as the Navy Seals of the Catholic faith. He said these activists were willing to confront God’s enemies head-on as if on a field of battle. He said the great sin perpetrated by Stewart and other worshipers of Satan meant that others had to step into the void.
“Satanists do not realize that Satan hates all of God’s creation, including them,” Slobodnik said. “Their reward for worshiping and serving him will be eternal fire.”
And, an exorcist Former U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp, who served in the Kansas Senate before elected to Congress, said he consulted with a priest with experience in exorcism to figure whether he should participate in a television interview with Stewart.
“Father had a simple question: ‘Why would you do this? What do you hope to gain?’ I stumbled around in my answer,” Huelskamp said. “I wanted to share the truth about Christ. The truth about the Eucharist. His summary response was quite stunning to me. He said, ‘There is no good that could come from being in the same room with a Satanist.’”
Huelskamp said it was suggested his participation in the interview with Stewart might serve interests of Satan. The former Republican congressman woke ill the next day, and cancelled the interview. In the end, Huelskamp said he decided it was important to run to the fire created by Satan rather than shrink from it. He said it was the same as making his views known about the evil of abortion and defending the sanctity of marriage between a man and woman.
“I am quite stubborn and hardheaded,” he said. “We cannot be silent. We are required, if we call ourselves Christians, if we call ourselves Catholic, we are publicly required to defend the faith and to stand up for the truth.”
In an interview amid calm before the storm of his arrest, Stewart said he was convinced Catholics assembled around him didn’t understand why Satanic Grotto was at the Capitol to talk about religious oppression.
“What we only want is the rights that every American has,” Stewart said. “I’ve heard people say we’re setting a precedent. Well, if the precedent is freedom of religion for everyone in public spaces, yes, that’s what we’re trying to establish. We are dragging this issue out in the light and we’ll let the people look at it. The issue is that we’re not all being treated the same here.”

For over four decades, Zimbabweans have endured increasing hardships under the rule of ZANU-PF. The party has entrenched itself in power by any means necessary, showing little regard for democratic governance, human rights, or economic stability. Meanwhile, ordinary citizens face growing poverty, while the ruling elite enjoys lavish lifestyles fueled by corruption and looted wealth.
The military intervention that removed Robert Mugabe in 2017 was initially met with celebration, but it quickly became clear that little had changed. Removing a single leader while leaving the party machinery intact was akin to replacing the head of a predatory pack and expecting the rest to behave differently. Under Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership, corruption, nepotism, and political repression have intensified. Zimbabweans are not only disillusioned but also outraged at his efforts to establish a dynasty, consolidating power within his family and close allies while the country’s economic decline accelerates.
The current call by war veterans for a popular uprising against Mnangagwa, known as the Geza Revolution, presents Zimbabweans with a difficult choice. While frustration with the regime is justified, history has shown that internal struggles within ZANU-PF do not necessarily lead to genuine change. Many fear that supporting this movement might simply be a case of helping ZANU-PF resolve its factional battles, only for it to emerge stronger and more repressive.
Zimbabweans want meaningful transformation, not superficial changes that allow the same system to persist. They seek a break from the cycle of suffering that has persisted under successive ZANU-PF leaders. Any effort that simply replaces Mnangagwa with another figure from the same corrupt network is not a solution – it is an extension of the status quo.
Mnangagwa, once Mugabe’s right-hand man, has long been implicated in state-sponsored violence, disappearances, and political assassinations. His tenure has revealed that he was not just a loyal lieutenant but perhaps the true architect of many of the regime’s brutal tactics. Now, as he faces opposition from within his party, Zimbabweans must ask: does removing Mnangagwa while leaving ZANU-PF intact truly serve the people’s interests?
One of the key figures being positioned as a successor is equally tainted, having been involved in past corruption scandals and implicated in human rights violations, particularly in the Matebeleland massacres of the 1980s. Replacing one oppressive ruler with another from the same party is a recipe for continued suffering. Zimbabweans have already moved from the tyranny of Mugabe to the authoritarianism of Mnangagwa – should they now risk moving from fire into an even deeper crisis?
The fundamental question for the people is whether they should participate in this uprising without clear guarantees of what comes next. Supporting a factional rebellion within ZANU-PF risks giving opportunists a blank cheque to manipulate the country’s future for their own benefit. For over forty years, the ruling party has been at the center of Zimbabwe’s suffering. Should Zimbabweans seek to remove only Mnangagwa, or should they push for the complete dismantling of the system that has oppressed them for decades?
It is understandable that people are politically exhausted and desperate for change. However, the M31 movement appears to be an internal rebellion aimed at rebranding and prolonging ZANU-PF’s rule rather than delivering real democratic transformation. When Mugabe was ousted, the people’s suffering did not end – it worsened. If Mnangagwa is removed, will Zimbabwe’s core problems be solved?
I believe not. The real issue lies with the party itself. True change will only come when Zimbabweans dismantle the entire oppressive structure, rather than replacing one face with another from the same corrupt system.

THE DANGERS OF HICHILEMA’S PLANNED CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES
Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND’s machinations to illogically change the Constitution to perpetuate his stay in office by removing the five-year presidential term limit and introduce a seven-year presidential term limit as well as remove the 50% + 1, and revert to First Past the post electoral system to avoid a rerun, can be regarded as a “blatant power grab”, a ruse to secure a second and third-term of office, and a huge step backwards for our democracy.
We categorise these reckless manoeuvres as an “open power grab” because it is clear that Mr Hichilema and his corrupt league want to take advantage of the situation in order to assume total and nonstop control of power. But these planned arbitrary Constitutional amendments will be resisted. Any selfish and evil attempts by Mr Hichilema and his corrupt league to amend the Constitution to avoid a rerun, which we know that he fears he can’t win, will be met with resistance this country has never seen before. The people will not accept it. They will not back down until the correct thing is done. Mr Hichilema must know that this country is not going to be a good place for them to live in corruptly, amass wealth and crookedly thrust themselves on the people, unless it’s a good country for all of us to live in.
These secretly planned Constitutional amendments have the potential to weaken our democracy, intensify the political temperature and tension as well as stir up political instability because the public anger that will stem from this will be immense.
Mr Hichilema should know that there is absolutely no need to subject a population that is already stressed economically to such irresponsible and selfish political schemes. The aspirations of the Zambian people have been fairly served by the current Constitution, which was a commendable step towards inclusivity, stability and enhancing our democracy.
So, why does Mr Hichilema want to let his ego or self-centeredness overturn the people’s will? Zambians boldly expressed their desire to be governed by a majority president every five years. They made it clear that for one to be sworn-in as President, they must cross the 50% + 1 threshold. But why is Mr Hichilema desperate to overturn these progressive Constitutional clauses? Why the panic? Has he sensed political defeat already?
But these evil schemes will not yield any positive results. In fact, the architects of these manoeuvres, including Mr Hichilema himself, risk paying a heavy political price if they do not abandon their plans forthwith.
Mr Hichilema should know that his regime’s insecurity and paranoia is setting the country on a dangerous path of a deep political crisis. Let them know that whatever they’re planning is equal to testing the depth of a river with both feet. They will definitely sink in no time. It is a huge mistake for Mr Hichilema to take Zambians for fools. History has shown that our people can be very decisive in rejecting deceitful leaders. This will backfire very badly!
Mr Hichilema and his league must face reality and avoid the perilous ditch ahead of them. Let Mr Hichilema devote his energies to fostering unity, peace, and political stability. He must fulfill his campaign promises and address the numerous challenges that have befallen our country like starvation, high fuel prices, loadshedding and cost of living among others, and not these desperate manoeuvres to keep himself in office. As the Bembas say “Ukwali insoke takwafwile muntu”. We have once again advised and we hope he will listen.
We call upon the Church, civil society, opposition political parties, labour movement, student unions, traditional leaders, young people, academics and all progressive stakeholders to voice out and reject this madness.
