SPAIN COURT CONVICTS EX-FOOTBALL CHIEF FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OVER FORCED KISS

SPAIN COURT CONVICTS EX-FOOTBALL CHIEF FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OVER FORCED KISS

A Spanish court on Thursday convicted former football chief Luis Rubiales of sexual assault over the forced kiss he gave star forward Jenni Hermoso and fined him 10,800 euros ($11,300).
But the court acquitted him and the three other accused of the charge of coercion in the case.

Prosecutors had sought a prison term of two-and-a-half years for Rubiales – one year for sexual assault and 18 months for coercion – for having allegedly pressured the player to downplay the incident.

Rubiales was accused of sexual assault for kissing Hermoso in 2023 following Spain’s triumph in the women’s World Cup in Australia, as well as coercion for allegedly trying to convince her to downplay the incident afterwards.

The global outcry over the kiss forced Rubiales to resign in disgrace and thrust the spotlight on the prevalence of macho culture and sexism in sport.

Hermoso, 34, said on the opening day of the trial on February 3 she felt “disrespected” after a non-consensual kiss that “should not happen in any social or work setting”.

But Rubiales, 47, told the court on Tuesday he was “totally sure” Hermoso consented to the kiss as she went up to receive her winner’s medal, which was broadcast live around the world, and denied putting pressure on her after the incident.

He conceded he “made a mistake” on the podium, saying he should have “been in a more institutional role”, but denied any offence had been committed.

Rubiales’ stance on the stand contrasted with the defiance he displayed when the scandal broke.

During an emergency federation meeting in August 2023, he minimised the importance of the kiss and defied calls for his resignation, railing against “false feminism”.

Rubiales resigned in September that year after FIFA suspended him and Spanish prosecutors opened an investigation into alleged sexual assault. He had been federation chief since 2018.

Hermoso, the all-time top scorer for the Spain women’s team who now plays for Mexican club Tigres, was not called up to the national squad immediately after the World Cup.

But new coach Montse Tome said she wanted to protect the player and denied omitting her from the squad was a “punishment”.

FAZ cannot exist without Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ)- Dickson Jere

Sports Council
By Dickson Jere

I got a call few years ago from a lawyer colleague – Willis Muhanga – who wanted to know why this creature is called “National” Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ). He was my classmate in Legislative Drafting Course and we were doing assignments around sports law.
“Where does the word National come from?” He asked, inquisitively.
I perused through “The Sports Council of Zambia Act”, Chapter 142 of the Laws of Zambia and realized that the correct name is “Sports Council of Zambia” without the  prefix of “National”.
So take note.

Anyway, that is besides the point.

You see, the Sports Council is creature of statute – created by Parliament in 1988 to be the sole regulator of sports in Zambia. Therefore, no sports association or federation can exist without being registered annually by Sports Council. It’s like a ZICTA of sports. Or LAZ of sports. You cannot exist as FAZ without it. You cannot exist as Swimming Union (ZASU) without it. It gives the license for your legal existence in the country. Currently, all 57 Sports Federations are registered with Sports Council. Gymnastics is currently suspended by same body. Simply, Sports Council is a serious regulatory body. It cannot be wished away unless through Parliament.

One of the powers which Parliament gave to this creature is to supervise sports federations and make sure they are compliant with their own constitutions. It can also suspend any federation for wrongdoing. So, before a National Federation can join a continental body or international Federation, it must be registered first by Sports Council.

“Ensure that sports groups at all levels conform to the rules and norms governing the particular sport,” reads one of its statutory functions.

Parliament was even clever on how it drafted the Sports Council Act. It gave the Minister or Government minimal powers in choosing the board. Except the Chairperson appointed by Government, the rest of the board members (seven)are elected among sports administrators. Sports administrators govern themselves at this level. The highest decision making organ is the Council that comprises of one representative of all Sports Federations in Zambia. The rest come from designated agencies. In short, Parliament said “you regulate yourselves” in sports. Prominent and respected lawyers such Julius Sakala,SC and Chifumu Banda, SC have chaired this important body.

Apart from Sports Council, there is National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), which is local branch of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It regulates elite sports and coordinates the Olympic Games participation. In Zambia, it also doubles as the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA). It also takes athletes to the Commonwealth Games. NOCZ/CGA is associate member of Sports Council and work closely.

Yes, in the last few years, Sports Council looked moribund. It had no CEO for almost a decade except one who was acting from the Ministry of Sports until recently. Secondly, it does not have a board for a sometime. Elections are due soon – so I was told. Last year or so, we agreed to add an Arbitration Tribunal within Sports Council to have the mandate to resolve all sports disputes outside Court. There is even an MOU with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators to coordinate that process.

By the way, Zambia is not only country with this kind of setup. Almost all countries have such bodies to register and regulate sports Federations. South Africa for instance has combined Sports Council and National Olympic Committee to form one body – South Africa Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC). Botswana has the National Sports Commission.

My point is that Sports Council is not just a stakeholder in the sports administration in Zambia. It is the mother of all sports Federations and they cannot exist without it. Government can only fund a sports body that is registered by Sports Council…

Now, tell me. Where did the prefix “National” come from when it is not in the statute?

GOVERNMENT ESTABLISHES MOBILE COURTS

GOVERNMENT ESTABLISHES MOBILE COURTS

The Judiciary of the Republic of Zambia with the help of the Irish Government has launched mobile courts in correctional facilities across the country in order to speed up disposal of cases to help reduce congestion in facilities.

The move is also aimed at bringing justice closer to inmates by providing access to legal services in places where regular courts are not available.

They also help to reduce case backlogs, improve access to justice, and strengthen the formal justice system.

Lusaka High Court judge in charge( General List) Honourable Justice Charles Zulu says the concept of mobile courts is dear to the judiciary.

” The Honourable Chief Justice is promoting open justice and is keen on eliminating any clogs and fetters in dispensing efficient and effective justice to all,” Mr Zulu said.

The High Court judge in charge was speaking during the launch of the pilot project of mobile courts in Zambia at Lusaka Central Correctional Facility today.

Hon. Zulu commended the Zambia Correctional Service for hosting the event.

And Zambia Correctional Service Deputy Commissioner General Mr Bwalya Kuyomba said the introduction of mobile courts will help in quick access to judicial processes.

” This program will also help the Zambia Correctional Service fulfill it’s mandate to ensure safe and humane  custody while promoting rehabilitation, consequently helping to decongest the Correctional centres,” he said.

The Deputy Service Chief commended Government and other stakeholders stakeholders for working together in ensuring that the project is launched.

And Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri S.C is confident that the mobile courts will be a success.

” I wish to thank the judiciary, the Legal Aid Board, Zambia Correctional Service for taking this bold step in tackling the challenge of prison overcrowding,” Mr Phiri said.

Meanwhile Irish Ambassador to Zambia Bronagh Carr said the mobile courts are important to the judiciary system of any county.

Ms Carr thanked Government and other stakeholders for establishing mobile courts.

TANZANIAN MAN SUES NEIGHBOR FOR FAILURE TO IMPREGNATE HIS WIFE AFTER BEING PAID

TANZANIAN MAN SUES NEIGHBOR FOR FAILURE TO IMPREGNATE HIS WIFE AFTER BEING PAID

In Dar-es-Salaam, a Tanzanian Court is yet to decide on a viral case where a man willingly hired his neighbor, to dismantle his wife for the sake of having a child.

Information reaching Zambia is that a Darius Makambako 30, with his wife Precious 28, out of curiosity to hear baby cries in the house tried both traditional and medical shots to have a child but to no avail until a renowned doctor  told the couple that the husband was sterile.

The couple was tired of being in a 6 year childless marriage admiring other people’s children and buying dogs every month.

So Makambako, a member of the Tanzanian Police Force (Traffic Department), after calming his wife’s protests, hired his neighbour Evans Mastano 32, a fellow police officer in the country’s commercial city, to impregnate his wife and made it a secret.

Since Evans was already married and the father of two beautiful daughters, plus looked very much like Darius to the boot, the plan seemed good.

Makambako paid Mastano 2,000,000 Tanzanian Shillings (equivalent to K10,000 in the never appreciating Kwacha ) for the job and for three evenings a week, for 10 consecutive months in 2023.

Evans tried desperately, a total 75 different times, to impregnate his friend’s wife Precious, watching all the styles on YouTube but failed.

Reports say Precious, a nurse at a private clinic, had decided to get a three months’ vacation leave (March to June 2023), to dedicate her time to sleeping with her husband’s best friend and neighbour, in order to have her first child, but the man failed to impregnate her, despite the husband leaving them in bed the whole day, at most times.

When Precious failed to get pregnant for 10 months however, Makambako could not understand and insisted that Evans have a medical examination, which he did in January 2024.

The doctor’s pronouncement that Evans Mastano was also sterile, shocked everyone, except his wife, who was forced to confess that Evans was not the real father of her two children, but his cousin Edward!

“I was forced to secretly sleep with his first cousin for these two children, after realising that my husband could not impregnate me for two years,” Angela told the Dar-es-Salaam Today News.

Now Makamboko is suing Evans for breach of contract, in an effort to get his money back, but Evans refuses to give it back, because he says he did not guarantee conception, but only that he would give it an honest effort.

WEEPING MUM TESTIFIES AGAINST SON WHO TRIED TO RAPE HER

WEEPING MUM TESTIFIES AGAINST SON WHO TRIED TO RAPE HER

WHILE crying, a 42-year-old woman of Lusaka’s Zingalume narrated how her own son, 22, undressed and tried to force himself on her in her bedroom.

Regina Mbewe testified before Lusaka magistrate Mutinta Mwenya how her second boy son, while in a drunk state, got to her bedroom, undressed with an erect manhood trying to rape her but she punched him.

Ms Mbewe was testifying against Fanizani Phiri, who is charged with attempted incest by males.

Allegations are that on December 25, 2024, the accused tried to have sex with his mother, but the accused who works at a Tobbaco company denied the allegation in court.

During trial, Ms Mbewe somberly narrated that on December 25,2024, around 12:00hours, she returned home from work and discovered that her children had not cleaned the house.

She told the court she is a mother of eight but only stays with four of her children, including Fanizani.

Ms Mbewe continued saying she later started cleaning the house and after washing plates, she decided to rest on a sofa in the living room.

“One of my daughters phoned and said she would come with her husband. My six-year-old daughter Taonga called me and told me that Fanizani had come.

“I told her I would cook as it seemed that Fanizani was hungry,” she said.

Ms Mbewe said a drunk Fanizani entered the house and tried to sit where she was but he fell near the door.

“I told him he cannot sleep near the door because it is an exit. I told him to go and sleep elsewhere but he didn’t move”.

Ms Mbewe later went to her bedroom to collect a dish she wanted to use to bath her daughter, but that Fanizani followed his mother in the bedroom, entered and blocked the door.

There, the accused undressed and went towards he mother.

“I was naked and his manhood was erect. We struggled and I managed to get off him and I punched him. I was scared. I shouted for help.

“A neighbour came and tried to open the door but my son tried to block the door but my neighbour pushed the door and the accused fell”.

Ms Mbewe said Fanizani later went outside and slept but turned aggressive when he got up, “breaking things”.

“The person I asked to beat him suggested that we go to police because it seemed he was not in his normal state”.

She said the accused was taken to police.

When the woman went to the police the following morning, she asked them them release her detained son but the cops refused.

When asked to identify the accused, Ms Mbewe could not hold tears when pointing at his unremorseful looking son.

Towards the end of the testimony, as expected of mothers, the woman somberly asked the court not to jail her son but just punish him.

In cross examination, Fanizani said he had no questions for his mother.

A police officer also narrated that when asked about the alleged crime,

The arresting officer, Joy Kabunda, Fanizani told her he never knew what came over him.

Fire UPND Chief Whip, Reprimand Ministers- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Fire UPND Chief Whip, Reprimand Ministers

…It is now evident and clear that President Hakainde Hichilema has the worst support system. His aides, MPs and Ministers…

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

Look at the silence from his Ministers, other than the noise and threats from Jack Mwiimbu and incoherent statements from Cornelius Mweetwa, the sectoral Ministers are quiet, with no proactive statements to defend policies, programs and activities of their ministries.

The UPND Government appears inactive and literally dead, thanks to the silence of all these key figures.

So the so called achievements are left to persons of no influence or sway such as UPND “Consultant”, Mark Simuuwe and their beloved rogue publication, Koswe, to parrot and insult, scandalise and defame political opponents.

This is not of use if one is determined to show that they were running a working government and sustainable pilicies and programs.

Further, the UPND Media strategy is in total disarray and now heavily relying on useful idiots such as Nevers Mumba, Wynyer Kabimba or Seer 1 to attempt to deflect government contraversies and scandals.

Not a persuasive bylut an annoying lot.

Yesterday walk-out of Parliament, to attempt to collapse quorum, is the worst strategy for any ruling party in any parliamentary democracy in the world, especially that the Motion-the High Cost of Living-has adversely affected the lives of Zambians and businesses and was a great opportunity to explain the challenges and difficulties facing the country.

For President Hakainde Hichilema, his first point of call should be the immediate dismissal of whoever is the Chief Parliamentary Whip, for displaying such a poor strategy and followed by a strong public reprimand of his Ministers for walking away from a debate Zambians want answers to.

Further, can he and his floundering ship explain; why Zambians are experiencing the worst cost of living crisis since the 90s?

Can he explain why the foreign exchange market is volatile and the Kwacha is now home at K28 per dollar?

Can he explain why mealie-meal has now settled at above K350?

Can he explain why fuel is now at K35?

Can he explain why cooking oil, sugar, salt, bread is so unaffordable?
Can he explain?

UPND’s Fear of Former President Dr. Edgar Lungu: Why Even His Silence Terrifies Them

UPND’s Fear of Former President Dr. Edgar Lungu: Why Even His Silence Terrifies Them

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

It has been some time since former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu made a public statement or appearance. After traveling to South Africa for a health check-up, he has chosen to rest and reorganize, staying away from the political spotlight.

Yet, despite his silence, his mere existence continues to terrify the UPND government.

This is the same government that fought tooth and nail to bar him from contesting future elections, repeatedly claiming he was politically finished and irrelevant.

Yet, here we are—and they are still obsessed with him.

Why is UPND so fixated on former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu?

What is it about his silence that unsettles them so much? The answer is simple:

UPND knows that his influence remains alive. They fear what comes next.

UPND’s Double Standards on Health Discussions

Less than two weeks ago, Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu stood before the nation and warned that discussing the health of President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) is a crime.

This statement came after widespread speculation from concerned citizens who had heard rumors that President Hichilema had been admitted to Maina Soko Military Hospital.

Immediately after that statement:

✔ Police arrested ordinary citizens who merely commented on the matter.
✔ Government officials declared that discussing HH’s health was a national security threat.
✔ UPND insisted that it was unlawful to speculate on the well-being of the sitting president.

Yet today, the same UPND government has used Independent MP Nyambose of Chasefu to raise a point of order in Parliament, demanding that the health of former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu be discussed—on national television!

So, which is it?

How can discussing  President HH’s health be a crime, yet debating Dr. Lungu’s health in Parliament is acceptable?

Why is the government—after completely disowning Dr. Lungu—suddenly interested in his well-being?

Why the selective application of rules?

This is blatant hypocrisy, and Zambians are watching.

Why Is UPND Suddenly Concerned About Dr. Lungu’s Health?

Let’s not forget:

The UPND government has done everything possible to erase Dr. Lungu from public life.

▪️They stopped paying him as a former head of state.

▪️They refused to cover his medical expenses.

▪️They stripped him of all state benefits.

▪️They withdrew state security from him.

▪️They repeatedly declared that he is no longer the government’s responsibility.

Yet now, they want updates on his health?
Why the sudden concern?

If the government truly believes that Dr. Lungu is politically finished, why are they so desperate to know his condition?

If his well-being is none of their business, why use Parliament to force the issue?

If Dr. Lungu is truly irrelevant, why does his silence alone send UPND into a frenzy?

The answer is obvious:

UPND is terrified of Dr. Edgar Lungu.

The Fear of Dr. Edgar Lungu is Real

For four years, UPND has tried everything to eliminate Dr. Lungu from Zambia’s political scene.

They believed that by:

✔ Blocking him from contesting elections,
✔ Denying him access to state resources,
✔ Using state institutions to frustrate him,

They would silence him forever. But they were wrong.

Even in silence, Dr. Lungu remains a dominant force.

Even when absent from the political scene, he continues to shape political discourse.

Even without speaking, his presence alone shakes the UPND government to its core.

What kind of “irrelevant politician” keeps an entire government obsessed with his every move?

If Dr. Lungu were truly finished, UPND would ignore him.

But instead, they are:

✔ Monitoring his health.
✔ Dragging his name into parliamentary debates.
✔ Wasting more time on him than solving Zambia’s real problems.

This is not the behavior of a confident ruling party

This is not the behavior of a government in control.

This is the behavior of a government in panic mode.

UPND Must Stop the Hypocrisy and Get to Work

Zambians are not blind to these contradictions.

You cannot make it illegal to discuss  President HH’s health while using Parliament to debate Dr. Lungu’s health.

You cannot disown a former president, refuse to support his medical bills, and then suddenly demand updates on his well-being.

You cannot declare him politically irrelevant while treating him as your biggest nightmare.

This is not leadership.

This is fear.

The message is clear: UPND fears Dr. Edgar Lungu more than any other political opponent.

If a silent Lungu is already giving them sleepless nights, what will happen when he finally speaks?

UPND must stop the hypocrisy, stop the panic, and focus on governing.

Zambians deserve better.

HH SHOULD FIRE CABINET MINISTERS WHO WALKED OUT OF PARLIAMENT YESTERDAY- ANDD

HH SHOULD FIRE CABINET MINISTERS WHO WALKED OUT OF PARLIAMENT YESTERDAY

…..they have demonstrated that they are not helping him deliver on promises including reducing the cost of living, says ANDD

Lusaka… Thursday February 20, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

President Hakainde Hichilema should fire cabinet ministers who walked out of Parliament yesterday as they have demonstrated that they are not helping him in his quest to reduce the high cost of living, says Advocates for National Development and Democracy (ANDD)

Yesterday, some Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), including cabinet ministers, walked out of Parliament when Lunte PF MP Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya moved a motion to take practical measures to reduce the cost of living.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda says the UPND have now demonstrated that they are not willing and lack capacity to deal with the high cost of living.

Mr Banda said at this stage, the UPND should apologize to the people of Zambia for making them believe that they will reduce the high cost of living.

“We wish to call upon President Hakainde Hichilema to fire his cabinet ministers as they have demonstrated that they don’t have the capacity to help him as a Republican President to address the continued economic challenges the country is facing such as high cost of living and rising prices of basic commodities,” he told Smart Eagles in an interview via telephone.

“As ANDD, we strongly condemn cabinet ministers and the UPND MPs for walking away from Parliament during the debate on a motion to address the continued high cost of living. We believe that MPs were elected and sent to Parliament by the people of Zambia to address their challenges and improve the way of living.”

The ANDD Executive Director further said cabinet ministers are in those offices to help President Hichilema in dealing with the many challenges the country is facing.

“Cabinet ministers were equally appointed by the Republican President to help him deliver national economic development to the people of Zambia and help him address the economic challenges and improve the lives of the citizens. We want to put it on record that UPND which was voted into office on the premise of reducing the high cost of living, reducing the cost of doing business and improve the living standards of people, if these cabinet ministers and UPND MPs are walking away from Parliament during a motion to reduce the high cost of living, it’s a clear indication that they don’t have the capacity and competency and solutions to address the high cost of living,” he added.

“Cabinet ministers have shown that they don’t care about the welfare of the people. The UPND government should apologize to the people for making them believe that they had the capacity to improve the living standards of the people.”

AIPAC  condemns the walkout of Cabinet ministers and UPND MPs from Parliament

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AND PUBLICATION

20th February, 2025

The Acton Institute for Policy Analysis Centre (AIPAC) is deeply disappointed and strongly condemns the walkout of Cabinet ministers and UPND MPs from Parliament during the debate on the motion to address the high cost of living.

This behavior is unacceptable and a clear indication that the President needs a new team of MPs and ministers who are committed to serving the people, not just their own interests. As stakeholders, we demand an apology from the party in power.

We expect the ruling party, especially Cabinet ministers and UPND MPs, to exhibit leadership maturity now that they are in government. Their actions suggest that they are either unable or unwilling to address the challenges facing millions of Zambians.

The walkout is a clear abdication of their responsibility to provide solutions to the pressing issues affecting the country. As leaders, they should be working together to find solutions, not abandoning their responsibilities.

We urge the President to take decisive action to address the issues at hand and to consider Cabinet reshuffles a new team of  ministers who are committed to serving the people in line with the President’s vision.

Furthermore, we are concerned that this behavior may be a sign of a deeper problem within the ruling party. It raises questions about their commitment to democratic principles and their ability to work with others to find solutions.

As a nation, we deserve better, and it’s time for our leaders to take responsibility for their actions. We demand more from our leaders, and it’s time for them to step up and provide the leadership that Zambia needs.

We call on all stakeholders, including civil society, the media, and the general public, to join us in condemning this behavior and demanding better from our leaders.

Zambia’s Football Governance Crisis: A Reflection on Recent History and Sovereignty

Zambia’s Football Governance Crisis: A Reflection on Recent History and Sovereignty
By Kennedy Gondwe

From what I am hearing, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is prepared to go all the way to defy the directive by the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) for the association to hold elections by February 28.

Following the announcement that the government will not recognize Andrew Kamanga as FAZ president after February 28, officials at Football House want to run to Zurich to claim third-party interference (that’s if they haven’t done that already).

Ironically, as human beings, we can be inconsistently strange sometimes and use selective amnesia to argue our cases.

When it suits our interests, we claim that “rules are rules” and that they must be followed even if it takes us walking through a stone.

Have we forgotten that some 15 years ago, a parallel FAZ executive was formed because two-thirds of the association’s membership decided to rebel against the Kalusha Bwalya-led executive?

Who was the leader of that parallel executive? One Andrew Ndanga Kamanga who at the time memorized the Sports Council Act like a chorus of a song performed in Papa churches.

Imagine a parallel executive being formed today and what Andrew Ndanga Kamanga and his supporters would do to that small football population!

Yet some 15 years ago, Kamanga even went to FIFA to make his case — and rightly so — and then FIFA president Sepp Blatter was involved in resolving the issue.

A similar scenario is playing out today.

The only difference is that this same Kamanga and his supporters in the anarchy they have created is now incharge of FAZ and they have shifted goalposts.

What’s their stance now towards the Sports Council — that the NSCZ is bang out of order! Strange people, these.

But when that parallel executive was formed 15 years ago, its leaders were in agreement with the NSCZ because, rightly so, they argued, Zambia was a sovereign state and according to our laws, the Sports Council was a creature of parliament empowered to bring erring members back in line — FAZ included.

That time 15 years ago, no one wanted Zambia banned but now, if it appears people want the country banned by FIFA in the name of upholding the FAZ constitution!

Where’s our morality or the love for the very sport we profess to love?

What has changed now?

Has Zambia just lost its sovereignty because Andrew Ndanga Kamanga has gone through unopposed against eight other disqualified competitors and was declared duly elected at a press briefing without an election?

Who has forgotten who went to Zurich some 15 years ago for an infamous PowerPoint presentation in a bid to convince FIFA that according to our Zambian laws — and rightly so — backed by the very NSCZ, they were the legitimate FAZ leaders? What has changed now?

Are laws only credible when they suit us?

You see, when we want to argue about rules and the constitutionality of the current circus that we have created, let’s also have a memory longer than 24 hours. Simple.

RESPECT PATIENTS’ RIGHTS- Dr Canisius BANDA

RESPECT PATIENTS’ RIGHTS
___________

It ought to be noted that all persons will someday become patients.

Over time, disease spares no one.

It is a requirement of our existence that human beings should treat each other with respect and dignity.

It is this observation that gave birth to the United Nations Charter on Human Rights, and Zambia is a signatory to this global agreement called the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

Zambia is a constitutional democracy whose governance should be premised on observance of human rights, ethics and the rule of law.

Zambia’s health minister Mr Elijah Muchima should know that all patients worldwide have rights.

One of the fundamental rights of a patient is to have information about his or her health kept private. And the ultimate control of such information, information about a patient rests with the patient himself or herself.

It is important that should the need for disclosure of a patient’s records arise, the right procedures are followed and the patient’s consent is sought always.

Guided and mandated by the laws of Zambia, the Health Professions Council of Zambia states that ‘patients have a right to expect that information about them will be held in confidence by health care practitioners. Confidentiality is central to trust between practitioners and patients. Without assurances about confidentiality, patients may be reluctant to give practitioners the information they need in order to provide good care. Where health practitioners are asked to provide information about patients, they should seek the consent of patients to [for] disclosure of information wherever possible.’

Further, the Zambia Data Protection Act of 2021 (Act No. 3 of 2021) protects personal data and regulates how it can be used. The purpose of this Act is to protect personal data and sensitive personal data; to promote the responsible use of personal data; to create a secure digital environment and to provide rights to data subjects [such as patients].

All these guidelines, inter alia, justiciable and otherwise, on the ethical handling of a patient’s information, and statutes that consolidate and protect the rights of patients were not developed solely for Ms Edith Nawakwi and Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

They were put in place for all citizens by citizens and the international community to ensure order in the affairs of people, a just society everywhere and to protect and uphold the dignity of all persons.

From the foregoing, it is clear to see that Mr Elijah Muchima is being asked to do an impossible job.

Mr Muchima has neither the jurisdiction nor the authority to divulge the medical records of anyone, citizen or otherwise.

Such an act on his part would be blatantly ultra vires, grossly unethical and, would constitute a severe violation of human rights and a veritable crime against humanity.

And such conduct on his part would constitute cogent grounds for his resignation.

But Mr Elijah Muchima is an educated man with a fine mind.

Zambians ask that his sobriety of thought should now not be tainted by the nefarious urgings and plots of his corrupt colleagues.

Let Mr Elijah Muchima be warned that he must never overstep his mandate and fall prey to the ill and shady machinations of his imingalato associates in Cabinet.

Let him understand that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

Let him desist from walking on thin ice as what his colleagues, through parliament, are urging him to do is that dangerous.

The only ministerial statement he should give in parliament is that he has neither the mandate nor authority to divulge information about any patient in Zambia or anywhere else for that matter. As brief as that.

Should he wish to lengthen his statement, he could add that  in due course, following due processes, respective medical reports from the responsible healthcare providers of the named subjects, and only with their consents, will/may be submitted to the House.

To reiterate, the control of information about any patient is the sole responsibility and authority of the patient.

Barring this, disclosure only happens under special and guided provisions as stipulated by mandated health authorities such as the Health Professions Council of Zambia.

In conclusion, as the history of Zambia’s republican presidency illustrates, when Elijah Muchima falls ill one day, as he shall, we all shall respect this right of his.

We all, as one Zambia and one nation, shall rise up and, in unison, shall defend his right to privacy, confidentiality and dignity.

One fall all, all for one!

UPND MPs Break Zambia’s Sprinting Record

UPND MPs Break Zambia’s Sprinting Record.

In what can only be described as a national embarrassment, UPND Members of Parliament and Cabinet ministers staged an unannounced athletics event in Parliament fleeing the chamber like a bunch of Grade 7 pupils hearing that the headteacher is coming with a punishment stick.

The topic on the table? The high cost of living in Zambia. The people wanted answers. Parliament wanted accountability. But instead of stepping up, our so-called leaders decided that their best contribution to the discussion was to sprint out of the building.

Political analyst Dr. Mwelwa had a lot to say about this circus. “I have seen MPs dodge questions before, but this was special. This was not just dodging it was a full-blown evacuation! I mean, one minute they were seated, and the next, they were gone. If Parliament had CCTV, we would be reviewing footage like a crime scene investigation,” he said, shaking his head.

The UPND MPs were expected to provide solutions, but instead, they gave Zambia something else entertainment. One eyewitness inside Parliament even claimed that some ministers didn’t just walk away; they ran, coats flapping, phones in hand, as if they had just seen a ghost. The only thing missing was a finish line and a commentator shouting, “And it’s Honourable So-and-So in the lead!”
https://fb.watch/xSAxQxL5id/

But while some may laugh, the truth is bitter. Zambia is at a crossroads. The economy is crushing the ordinary citizen. The price of mealie meal is dancing like kwasa-kwasa, fuel is draining wallets faster than a Lusaka pickpocket, and job opportunities are disappearing like MPs in Parliament. And yet, when the moment came to address these issues, our leaders chose to run away instead of run the country.

Dr. Mwelwa did not mince his words. “Leadership is not for cowards. If you cannot answer simple questions in Parliament, what exactly are you doing in government? We need solutions, not sprinters. The President should seriously consider appointing people who are ready to govern, not track stars training for the next marathon.”

At this point, Zambia must ask itself a serious question: If the people we elected to lead us are too scared to even sit and discuss our problems, what hope do we have? Running away from accountability is the same as running away from responsibility. And a government that runs away from its people is a government that has already failed.

History will remember this day not as a moment of leadership, but as a day of shame. And the next time these MPs come back begging for votes, Zambians must remember: if they ran from questions today, they will run from responsibility tomorrow.

THE DEPUTY SPEAKER WANTED TO TEACH ME A LESSON – BINWELL Mpundu

By BINWELL Mpundu

THE DEPUTY SPEAKER WANTED TO TEACH ME A LESSON ..LIKE HONESTLY??.

Yesterday I was served by the clerk from being taught a lesson by the second deputy speaker

Hon Moses Moyo. This happened when the UPND MP’s walked out of parliament thereby collapsing the column and I was telling the Vice President from across the floor who remained in the house that the members who had walked out were a dissapointment because how can the rulling party members walk out.

This angered the Deputy speaker that I was shouting at his favourite angels who had actually misbehaved in parliament and the visibly angered Speaker shouted that he was going to name me meaning he was going to suspend me from parliament for days so as to teach me a lesson. The deputy speaker forgot that when the colum collapses, the business of the house is suspended and when the business is suspended you can not reprimand a member of parliament, it would be like a referee in football producing a red card at a player during the half time break.

It took the clerk of the National Assembly to whisper to the annoyed Deputy Speaker that he was offside the rules, he couldn’t teach me a lesson藍藍藍as business was on suspension.

I think I need to seek the intervention of elders mwati this hatred is normal,as if we longana (congregate)in the same church sure…this is now worrying  as the speaker can not easily suspended members of parliament just like that ,just because he has the powers which powers we actually gave him by nominating him to stand for the position from among us the independents  but today he has no regards for us infact he wants to treat us kwati bana bakusanga munganda all the times…

I WILL TEACH YOU A LESSON藍藍藍

Mopani Copper Mines’ Utter Display of Insolence and

PR WORST FAILURE, THE MOPANI CASE

Mopani Copper Mines’ Utter Display of Insolence and Hostility Against Hon. Mabeta

…We can’t meet Hon. Heartson Mabeta over the Mufulira copper slag dump known as the Mufulira Black Mountain, he is telling lies…

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba Wrote;

Mopani Copper Mines PLC has issued a public statement deriding, ridiculing and embarrassing Kankoyo Member of Parliament, Hon. Heartson Mabeta over his public statement that he will soon engage Mopani Copper Mines over the Mufulira Black Mountain.

What sin or evil did Mabeta commit by making such a public statement?

Mopani says Mebeta’s assertions that he will soon meet Mopani CEO,Charles Sakanya and management to discuss the Mufulira Slug Dump was “fake”, “baseless” and all “right-thinking” members of the public (kano fwe tupuba) should dismiss Hon. Mabeta’s statement.

Now this is the most insolent, hostile and foolish statement a corporate entity or mining house, can ever issue against such a key stakeholder as a Member of Parliament.

What happened to the art of public relations? You mean no sane or “right-thinking” member of Management could go through such a terrible statement and moderate or cancel it?

Who refutes a call for a meeting or call for engagement? Was it even necessary for Mopani to refute an MP saying he is going to have a meeting with the CEO? What harm can a meeting cause? Does Mopani want Hon.Mabeta to take all the serious issues affecting Mopani Copper Mines and the surrounding communities to the gallery, social-media, radio and tv?

Mopani should remember that its issues are on eggshells. It has been sold outside the provisions of the Constitution and the law, to an unkown entity.

Its high valued assets such as mining dumps are being parceled-out without clear policy, accountability or justification.

Towns like Mufulira, Chililabombwe and Kitwe are now like ghost towns and the tensions over mine assets or its remnants are a serious cause of constant conflict in the community suffering the worst youth unemployment.

Ba Mopani kwateni ko order. To insult the people that put out your fires is to display foolish confidence and utter arrogance!

Besides, Heartson Mabeta is a UPND MP, and you cannot fault his intentions or claim he is being malicious. He has a party duty to support his government policy. He merely wants to help his Constituency.

Below is the full statement by Mopani Copper Mines

Mopani Copper Mines PLCwishes to refute the fake and baseless statement issued by Kankoyo Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Heartson Mabeta, claiming that a meeting has been arranged between his office and the Mopani Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Charles Sakanya, over the Mufulira copper slag dump.

At no time did Mr. Sakanya engage Hon. Mabeta over the Mufulira copper slag dump (otherwiseknown as the Mufulira Black Mountain).

We, thus, urge all right-thinking members of the public to disregard the untrue statements being peddled by the Kankoyo Member of Parliament regarding Mopani.

The Mufulira copper slag dump is part of Mopani’s assets and life of mine plans, which
Mopani has no intention of giving up under whatsoever circumstances!

UPPZ Leader Blasts Government Over ‘Animal Farm’ Justice System

UPPZ Leader Blasts Government Over ‘Animal Farm’ Justice System

United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) leader Charles Chanda has launched a scathing attack on Zambia’s justice system, describing it as a corrupt and biased institution that favors the powerful while neglecting grassroots leadership. Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Chanda accused the government of deliberately sidelining village headmen, who he says are the true pillars of justice in rural communities.

Chanda likened the current state of justice in Zambia to George Orwell’s Animal Farm, where those in power enjoy privileges while others are left to fend for themselves. “We have a system where certain leaders are treated like kings, while the real custodians of justice—the village headmen—are ignored and disrespected,” he said. His remarks come amid growing concerns over the lack of law enforcement in many rural areas, where traditional leaders are left to maintain order without state support.

The opposition leader condemned what he called a deliberate government strategy to undermine local leadership while concentrating power in the hands of a select few. “This government has mastered the art of deception,” Chanda declared. “They pretend to care about justice, yet they only serve their own interests. Village headmen are left to struggle without pay, without recognition, and without any form of state support.”

In many rural areas, police posts are either non-existent or underfunded, leaving village headmen as the only figures responsible for maintaining law and order. Chanda emphasized that these leaders are often forced to act as judges, law enforcers, and mediators, yet they receive nothing in return. “What kind of justice system allows hardworking leaders to live in poverty while others sit in air-conditioned offices pretending to lead?” he questioned.

Chanda accused the ruling elite of deliberately undermining village headmen to keep them weak and dependent. “It is a disgrace that we have a justice system that only recognizes those who wear suits and sit in government offices,” he charged. “Village headmen have been reduced to beggars in their own communities, while those with political connections continue to enjoy the benefits of power.”

The UPPZ leader vowed that if elected, his party would dismantle the current system and ensure that all community leaders are treated with dignity and fairness. “We will put an end to this madness,” he promised. “Village headmen will be put on the payroll, and their roles will be respected as part of the justice system. The days of selective justice must come to an end.”

Chanda’s remarks add to the growing frustration among rural communities, many of whom feel abandoned by the government. With elections approaching, his message is likely to resonate with those who believe that the current administration has failed them. Whether his promises will translate into votes remains to be seen, but his brutal critique of Zambia’s justice system has certainly sparked a debate that the ruling party can no longer ignore.

“Ba Guy” on the Run After Robbing Chinese Bosses of K311,000 in Sinadambwe!

“Ba Guy” on the Run After Robbing Chinese Bosses of K311,000 in Sinadambwe!

In what sounds like a scene straight out of an action movie but with a Zambian budget, five daring “ba guy” have vanished into thin air after pulling off a grand heist at XL Waste Management Company, making away with K311,000 in cash, high-end mobile phones, and even a Chinese national’s pistol.

According to police reports, the dramatic heist took place on 18th February at around 20:00 hours in Sinadambwe Chiefdom, Siavonga District. The robbers—Alex Khoza (46), Francis Chitalu (25), Godfrey Kabwe (40), Trust Kachelo (30), and Chrispin Hachitoba (35)—all employees of the company, allegedly turned against their Chinese bosses in what can only be described as “employee benefits gone wrong.”

The five Chinese victims, identified as Boyka Lidong Bo (32), Zeng Gang Ping (28), Xu You Ping (41), Gao Pin Shan (40), and Yan De Ming (49), were peacefully enjoying their nshima (or maybe rice, who knows?) when the Zambian crew decided to switch up the night’s entertainment with an armed robbery.

Armed with two AK-47 rifles and three unidentified firearms, the suspects stormed the dinner scene like Hollywood villains. In a flash, they collected K211,000 in cash, grabbed four expensive phones—including an iPhone 13 Pro Max valued at K32,000—and even took a pistol that belonged to a Chinese national living in Lusaka. One of the criminals had the audacity to wear a full Zambia Police combat uniform—proving that when it comes to disguises, Zambians don’t play!

Southern Division Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka, who confirmed the incident, described it as an “embarrassing moment for law enforcement,” since the robbers executed the mission smoothly and disappeared into the night without a trace.

“By the time we arrived at the scene, the ‘ba guy’ were long gone,” said Commissioner Daka, shaking his head. “These chaps vanished faster than a salary in January.”

Despite a rapid police response, no arrests have been made, and all stolen items remain missing. Investigations are ongoing, but for now, the gang of five is still enjoying their loot, probably at an undisclosed location sipping on some expensive beverages.

As law enforcement hunts down the runaway suspects, Zambians are left wondering—where are these guys hiding? And more importantly, who taught them how to execute a heist so smoothly? Stay tuned for more updates on this Sinadambwe blockbuster!

UPND AWAITS POLITICAL TSUNAMI, TONSE ALLIANCE IS THE WAY TO GO – MSONI

UPND AWAITS POLITICAL TSUNAMI, TONSE ALLIANCE IS THE WAY TO GO – MSONI

By Fox Correspondent
THE Tonse Grand Alliance is the only promising alternative for Zambians as opposed to the deceitful UPND government which had promised many things but has ended up delivering nothing but poverty, injustices and lies ahead of the 2026 general elections, All Peoples Congress (APC) party president Nason Msoni has charged.

Msoni whose party was part of the UPND Alliance, campaigned and supported President Hakainde Hichilema in the 2021 elections, now wonders how the UPND would win elections next year when poverty levels have trippled compared to the way they found it under the previous administration.

He says there was no way President Hichilema would win when people were sleeping on an empty stomach, where hospitals have no medicines, and police have increased its brutality on citizens.

He says the sustained culture of impunity and extrajudicial killings going unabated is also worrying, while President Hichilema’s government is quiet about it.

Msoni noted that the UPND administration under President Hichilema is facing a serious political tsunami, which is unavoidable at the moment, looking at how broken the economy is.

“Surely UPND and President Hichilema are gone and gone out of the political spectrum. They have impoverished our people. They have suffocated our people. Even dogs now can’t bark because of hunger,” he said.

He wondered how President Hichilema would face Zambians to talk about his successes when the cost of mealie meal, which he found at K120, is now costing at K460 and in some places at K510.

Msoni said Zambians have been introduced to the life of a prisoner, whose eating habits were now regulated.

“In UPND, people can’t eat the way they want. People can’t buy mealie meal the way they want, it’s either they don’t have money or there is no mealie meal. If they are lucky to find some, then it’s expensive. Even the ZNS mealie meal is not available. That is why you have people waking up as early as 03 to queue for the commodity,” he said.

Msoni believes that the Tonse Alliance will do things differently to address critical issues of poverty, unemployment, dwindling health service delivery, comprehensive agricultural service delivery, and pursue a genuine fight against corruption without political undertones.

“One thing this arrogant UPND administration has forgotten is that the biggest opposition it is facing now is not politicians in the Tonse Alliance as individuals but the people of Zambia whom they have subjected to hunger, high cost of doing business, killed investment opportunities and a poor or dead health system. It is the poor people whom they have decided to punish through expensive farming inputs, it’s our rural population whose expectations have been buried. Tonse is now a vehicle Zambians have chosen to use for redemption from the 2021 mistake,” he said.

Hichilema has certainly lost it by demanding and insisting that he should only be addressed as Mr President and nothing else. He is more preoccupied with personal aggrandisement and massaging his own personal ego but at the expense of the suffering majority citizens. What a tragic betrayal to the people of Zambia. He is a mistake we must correct at the 2026 general elections.

AM I JUST THINKING TOO MUCH OR THE GUYS IN UPND ARE JUST HYPOCRITICAL OR THEY JUST HAVE A SHORT MEMORY- BINWELL MPUNDU

ZALO..AM I JUST THINKING TOO MUCH OR THE GUYS IN UPND ARE JUST HYPOCRITICAL OR THEY JUST HAVE A SHORT MEMORY.

Look at this ,it has not even been over two weeks since the Minister of Home Affairs held a press briefing to warn that all those who were talking about the health of our beloved President HH will be prosecuted and the following day ,the police swung into action to arrest people who had been seen comenting on the matter and I believe those citizens who includes Abraham Roney Kapya of Kalulushi will be appearing before the courts of law.

Yesterday the UPND uses Independent MP Nyambose of Chasefu to raise a point of order to demand that the Health of the Former President is tabled in parliament and the First deputy speaker makes that directive.

Please help me understand this,How does talking about the health of the current President become criminal, while the health of the former president must be discussed on TV in parliament.
How will the Minister of Health deal with the issue of confidentiality to get the records of the former President, will he go to the former President to request for that record or they will use power to go and demand for that record at the hospital where the former President went and we all know it’ is a foreign hospital?
So will the country be entertained to details of whatever is wrong with the former President? Let us hypothetically say one is HIV positive will that have to be pronounced in parliament too or what if one has STI ‘s (please forgive me for using these examples) will that be made public also????

How about the fact that the state disowned the former President and they do not pay him a dime including not paying for his medicals why would the state then using parliament be interested in a person’s health who is no longer a responsibility of government. Why would we now show care to know his wellbeing when we have disowned him and have had nothing to do with him for a while now.

How will parliament deal with the rules of parliament that does not allow people being discussed starting with the Members of Parliament themselves who can not discuss each other let alone members of the public who cannot defend themselves. This rule is only excempted when one is taken to parliament to be ratified after being appointed to a public office .

Why do I feel the UPND are hypocritical or is it just that they have a very short memory? Look here when in opposition, the UPND used to talk about President Sata’s illness infact they mocked President Sata to his death, they talked about the health of President Lungu and it was all ok and there were no threats from government officials on them, but today they UPND are arresting anyone who talks about the health of our beloved President making such a criminal issue, but here we are they are now demanding to talking about the health of the former President in Parliament…..

Awe guys I think this is now too much, the hallmark of great leadership is being honest. It is becoming too much of dishonesty on the part of ba UPND and sadly they don’t even have an iota of social shame in them such that they will say this today and say the opposite tommrow  they will do this today and punish anyone who does the same tomorrow. Awe bane ba UPND you need to change.

Bob Sichinga Tears Into UPND’s False Hopes: ‘This Is Mistaken Economics’

“Sichinga Tears Into UPND’s False Hopes: ‘This Is Mistaken Economics’”

LUSAKA – Former Agriculture Minister Bob Sichinga has ripped into the UPND government’s economic and agricultural projections, dismissing them as baseless and detached from reality. His sharp criticism follows Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa’s claim that Zambians should expect a reduction in the cost of living in 2025 due to an anticipated bumper harvest and stable electricity supply. Sichinga, however, has labeled these statements as desperate political propaganda meant to mislead an already struggling population.

“To say that we are going to have a bumper harvest, we thank God. It is not a policy of UPND. It is not as a result of that. It is with the grace of God that has given us that water,” Sichinga fired back. He argued that attributing economic recovery to good rainfall instead of sound policies exposes the government’s failure to manage the agricultural sector effectively.

Sichinga further dismantled Mweetwa’s optimism, questioning how a bumper harvest would translate into a lower cost of living when Zambia’s agricultural sector is plagued by inefficiencies. “Even if you had a bumper harvest, 30% of what is produced goes to waste because you’ve got no storage. How do you expect food prices to drop when most of the crops rot before reaching the market?” he asked.

According to Sichinga, food security is not just about production but also about storage, transportation, and proper distribution channels—all of which the UPND government has failed to address. “This government does not seem to understand that without the necessary infrastructure, increased production means nothing. You cannot eat what is rotting in poor storage facilities,” he lashed out.

Turning his focus to the government’s ambitious agricultural targets for 2027, Sichinga labeled them as a pipe dream. The government has set a target of producing 10 million metric tonnes of maize, 1 million metric tonnes of soya beans, and 1 million metric tonnes of wheat annually, but Sichinga has dismissed these figures as mere fantasy. “Who is going to ensure these targets are met? This government has failed to deliver farming inputs on time under FISP. Now they want us to believe they will magically triple production in three years?” he scoffed.

He criticized Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo’s defense of these targets, calling it empty rhetoric. “Mechanization? Access to credit? Fertilizer and seed support? These are just words. Where is the actual implementation plan? Where is the money to fund this vision? Without details, these promises are just another set of lies meant to deceive the people,” he argued.

Sichinga also took a swipe at the government’s handling of the mining sector, accusing it of surrendering Zambia’s wealth to foreign investors while ordinary citizens bear the economic burden. “Who owns the mining? Who is producing on the Copperbelt and in North-Western Province? Foreign miners. Who will sustain these duties? Who will benefit from them? Certainly not the Zambian people,” he fumed.

He warned that the government’s failure to collect sufficient revenue from the mining sector would have dire consequences. “So, what are you going to replace that duty that would have come to government coffers in order for you to pay for the salaries of the workers? Who is going to be paying for that? You, the ordinary citizen. This is mistaken economics, and I make no apologies,” he charged.

Sichinga was equally brutal in his assessment of the depreciating exchange rate, warning that rising import costs would only worsen the cost of living crisis. “If your oil, which you import, is bought with foreign currency, and the exchange rate continues to deteriorate, what happens? Prices go up. So how does this government expect the cost of living to drop in 2025? These are desperate statements,” he argued.

He reminded Zambians that the Kwacha stood at K17 per dollar under the previous PF government in 2021, but under UPND’s watch, it is heading towards K30. “When that happens, everything you import becomes more expensive—fuel, fertilizer, machinery. So how exactly is this government expecting life to get cheaper? They are lying to the people,” he stated.

Sichinga’s frustrations were further compounded by the government’s failure to address long-term economic sustainability. He warned that once the country’s resources are depleted, there will be nothing left but environmental destruction. “When that emerald… When that cobalt… When that copper goes out, that cast salt goes out, it does not come back. What you are left with is a big hole in the ground. Is that what you want?” he questioned.

With the cost of living skyrocketing, farmers struggling with late input deliveries, and Zambia’s economic future looking increasingly unstable, Sichinga challenged the government to stop misleading the public. “You cannot just wake up and make grand statements about economic recovery without substance. Zambians deserve real solutions, not political illusions,” he warned.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA BEST LEADER FOR NATIONAL UNITY AND PROSPERITY- Spuki Mulemwa

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA BEST LEADER FOR NATIONAL UNITY AND PROSPERITY.
—————————————————
19/2/25

As we have previously stated, President Hakainde Hichilema has indeed demonstrated both commitment and dedication to improve Zambians’ welfare by governing in accordance with the will of the masses who gave the mandate, as well as introducing and implementing pro poor programs and initiatives.

Zambians will recall that the country was devastated by the worst drought in the country’s history, and this happened just after the President assumed office, but like the Biblical Moses he didn’t bury his head in the sand, but did everything to ensure that no one died of hunger.

That parent in Shangombo and Kaputa who previously couldn’t take their child to school because of school fees is able to do so today, due the much appreciated free education policy by the New Dawn Administration.

Further, Zambia today is like a construction site, with infrastructure development taking place in all parts of the country, even the remotest rural areas due to expanded CDF allocation which is disbursed to all 156 Constituencies nationwide at the same time, taking development to the doorsteps of the people.

This President means well for this country, and is the only one who can take Zambia to the desired economic destination,  however there is need for all patriotic Zambians to join him on this important national crusade.

It’s for these reasons we call upon the Zambian people not be swayed by the opposition who can’t measure up to President Hichilema’s pro poor governance credentials and commitment as they have lamentably failed to share their vision with the Zambian people, apart from criticizing and vilifying the President in an effort to tarnish his image.

President Hichilema is tried and tested having survived the worst drought and debt mountain that would have easily overwhelmed a leader without focus,  capacity or perseverance.
2026 belongs to President Hichilema as he has earned it through his servant leadership that speaks to the aspirations of the Zambian people.

About The Customs and Excise (Precious Stones and Metals) (Export Duty) (Suspension) Order, 2025- Dr Lubinda Haabazoka

By Dr Lubinda Haabazoka

About The Customs and Excise (Precious Stones and Metals) (Export Duty) (Suspension) Order, 2025

Zambia is the largest exporter of emeralds in the world, but since the days of Kaunda, this sector has been dominated by foreigners. The limited participation of Zambians occurs when they steal these stones from known mines on the Copperbelt and sell them at giveaway prices to foreigners, who then take them outside the country illegally to sell at much higher prices.

This industry is capital-intensive, and with Zambians lacking generational wealth, it has been dominated by foreigners and foreign firms who have become overnight billionaires from Zambian resources. Ideally, the government, with its financial power, could have helped capable Zambians grow in this sector or stopped abusing ZCCM and tasked it with running such industries on our behalf.

To avoid paying corporate income tax, these companies auction their stones abroad and misrepresent the sales value. To address this, the government forced local auctions of such stones, but the appetite for participation by these firms was minimal. Consequently, the government introduced a progressive 15% export tax to ensure Zambia benefits, and that’s when the situation escalated. These companies began announcing work stoppages and suspensions of mining activities. It seems their lobbying has paid off, and the government has yielded to their demands.

What is ironic is that there are many tax measures in place that are hurting small Zambian businesses, yet the government is not listening. This includes the increase in the threshold for turnover taxes, as well as high council and other government fees for business operations, which have increased by over 300% in the past three years. Zambians have complained, but no one seems to listen. My question is, for whom is this country?

To make matters worse, personal income tax is very high, which discourages companies from offering higher salaries and reduces disposable income for the average Zambian. We have failed to find a formula for decades to create wealth for ourselves because we have failed to feel empathy for our own situation!

The government is advised to deeply introspect, as it is losing the Zambian entrepreneur. Every day, new taxes, tariffs, and laws are being introduced that primarily target the same people and push them out of business. Why do I need a tax clearance certificate as an individual when my Pay As You Earn (PAYE) is taxed at source? I never even get a chance to see my own money. Such hindrances and impediments will not lead us anywhere.

To be fair, even foreign businesses are feeling the strain of over-taxation and the many administrative and economic barriers to doing business. Widening the tax base doesn’t mean increasing taxes for those who are already over-taxed but rather enrolling new taxpayers by encouraging the formalization of new businesses.

Our business laws are increasingly becoming punitive rather than building.

Please don’t be upset by this write-up. It is meant to help build you!

Thanks

NSCZ WILL NOT RECOGNIZE ANDREW  KAMANGA AFTER FEB 28th

0

NSCZ WILL NOT RECOGNIZE KAMANGA AFTER FEB 28th

The National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ), in a press briefing led by its CEO, Sombwa Musunsa, has stated that after February 28, 2025, Andrew Kamanga and the current executive of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) will not be recognized.

This follows recommendations from the Attorney General that by February 28, the tenure of the current FAZ executive will have come to an end. Therefore, FAZ must hold its elections by February 28 and not later.

FAZ had initially announced that it would hold its annual general elections in Livingstone on March 29, 2025. However, this contradicts its constitution, specifically Article 33 (3) and (4), which states:

“The President shall be elected by the Annual General Meeting for a period of four years. The term of office of the President shall begin after the end of the Annual General Meeting at which he/she was elected. No person may serve as President for more than three terms of office (whether consecutive or not).

Previous terms as Vice President or member of the Executive Committee shall not be considered in determining the limits of a President. The Vice President and members of the Executive Committee shall be elected for a period of four years.

Their terms of office shall begin after the end of the General Meeting at which they are elected. They may serve for no more than three terms of office (whether consecutive or not).”

This means that the tenure of office for the current President, Vice President, and Executive Committee, who were elected during the Annual General Meeting held on February 27, 2021, is set to expire at the end of the four-year period on February 28, 2025. Beyond this date, their mandate ends, and any actions or decisions taken after the expiration of their term would lack constitutional legitimacy unless they are reelected in accordance with the constitution.

The council has also advised FAZ to appoint a credible Electoral Committee to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.

UPND’s Betrayal: Selling Zambia’s Wealth to Foreign Corporations!- Abraham Simpamba

UPND’s Betrayal: Selling Zambia’s Wealth to Foreign Corporations!

Fellow Zambians,

Once again, the UPND government under President Hakainde Hichilema has exposed where its true loyalties lie not with the hardworking people of Zambia, but with foreign mining corporations that have looted our wealth for decades.

First, they scrapped the mineral royalty tax, depriving Zambians of billions in revenue. Now, they have taken another reckless and unpatriotic step suspending the 15% export duty on precious stones and metals. This decision is nothing short of economic sabotage!

Let’s be clear: this move will cost Zambia billions in lost revenue money that should have been used to buy medicines for our hospitals, fix broken roads, support farmers, and create jobs. Instead, President Hichilema and his Minister of Mines, Paul Kabuswe, have handed foreign corporations another tax holiday, deepening Zambia’s position as a mere supplier of raw materials while our people remain jobless, impoverished, and without hope.

For decades, Zambians have watched as our mineral wealth is shipped abroad with little benefit to us the rightful owners. Instead of strengthening policies to ensure we benefit from our resources, this government has bowed down to foreign interests. Is this the so called refined mining policy that Paul Kabuswe boasted about? If so, then it is nothing but a refinement of economic slavery!

President Hichilema and Minister Kabuswe must answer to the people of Zambia:

✅ Why have you removed a tax that was meant to ensure Zambia benefits from its own natural resources?
✅ What safeguards have you put in place to ensure this decision benefits Zambians and not just foreign corporations making billions?

✅ Why are you encouraging the export of raw minerals instead of promoting local industries that can refine these resources and create thousands of jobs?
✅ How does this decision help small-scale and artisanal miners who are struggling to compete in a market controlled by foreign monopolies?

✅ What is the government’s long-term strategy to ensure Zambians have control over their resources? Or has this administration completely surrendered our wealth to foreign entities?

This decision is an unforgivable betrayal!

It proves beyond doubt that the UPND government has failed and has no vision for Zambia’s economic independence. They are more interested in appeasing foreign investors than empowering their own people. No patriotic leader would make such a disastrous decision!

Enough is Enough!

Zambians must rise and reject this betrayal! We cannot sit back while our leaders mortgage our future to benefit multinational corporations. This policy must be reversed immediately!

If President Hichilema truly cares about Zambia, he must take action NOW to restore economic justice and ensure that Zambians not foreigners are the true beneficiaries of our God-given resources.

We call upon all patriotic Zambians miners, civil servants, students, entrepreneurs, and the unemployed to stand up and demand answers. We will not watch as our country is auctioned to the highest bidder. Power belongs to the people, and come 2026, we will hold this government accountable!

Zambians want answers not Edgar Lungu’s health updates! UPND, tell the nation why you have suspended the 15% duty on precious stones and other metals!

GOVERNMENT UNDER FIRE FOR BOWING TO MINING PRESSURE, SCRAPS EXPORT TAX ON GEMSTONES

GOVERNMENT UNDER FIRE FOR BOWING TO MINING PRESSURE, SCRAPS EXPORT TAX ON GEMSTONES

The Zambian government is facing fierce criticism after suspending the 15% export tax on gemstones, a move that has been widely interpreted as bowing to pressure from multinational mining firms. The decision, made just two months after the tax was introduced, has reignited concerns about corporate influence over government policies.

Zambia, the world’s second-largest producer of emeralds, is home to Kagem Emerald Mine, which is majority-owned by London-based Gemfields Group. In December 2024, Kagem abruptly halted operations, citing an “oversupply” of gemstones in the global market. However, critics argue that the shutdown was a calculated move to pressure the government into reversing the new tax policy.

A month after suspending operations, Kagem escalated its opposition by announcing that it would cease selling precious metals, claiming that the 15% export tax, when combined with the existing 6% mineral royalty, created an excessive tax burden of 21%. The company warned that unless the government reversed course, it would be forced to lay off workers.

The government responded swiftly, suspending the tax and effectively aligning with Kagem’s demands. This has sparked outrage among opposition leaders, economists, and labor unions, who argue that the reversal undermines Zambia’s sovereignty and exposes the country to corporate blackmail.

Charles Chanda, leader of the United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ), strongly condemned the government’s decision, accusing it of surrendering to foreign interests. “If we faced the same problem in 2019 and made the same mistake again, what does that say about our leaders? This is nothing short of economic manipulation by powerful corporations,” Chanda said.

He warned that allowing businesses to dictate tax policy sets a dangerous precedent. “If a company can simply suspend operations to get its way, what’s stopping others from using the same tactic? This government should have stood firm until the next budget cycle instead of rushing to accommodate foreign investors,” he added.

Economists have also voiced concerns, arguing that frequent reversals in tax policy create instability and weaken Zambia’s negotiating power. A senior economist from the Zambia Institute for Policy Research noted that the government’s swift retreat signaled weakness. “Every time a tax is introduced, mining firms protest, and the government backs down. This makes Zambia look like it has no control over its own economic policies,” he said.

Labor unions have echoed these frustrations, pointing out that the government’s decision does not guarantee job security. A Kagem Mine workers’ representative criticized the move, stating that “when operations were suspended in December, workers suffered. Now the tax is gone, but who’s to say they won’t shut down again when it benefits them?”

Despite mounting criticism, the government has defended its decision, with Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane arguing that the suspension was necessary to protect jobs and encourage investment. However, the backlash suggests that many Zambians see this as yet another instance of foreign mining firms dictating national policy at the expense of the country’s long-term economic stability.

MUSOKOTWANE MISGUIDED THE NATION, CF SLAMS SUSPENSION OF EXPORT DUTY ON PRECIOUS STONES AND METALS -Harry Kalaba

MUSOKOTWANE MISGUIDED THE NATION, CF SLAMS SUSPENSION OF EXPORT DUTY ON PRECIOUS STONES AND METALS

LUSAKA, February 19 – Yesterday, the Ministry of Finance and National Planning issued a statement on the Suspension of Export Duty on Precious Gemstones and Metal.

As Citizens First, our view is that the Minister misguided the country by framing the suspension of export duty as a boost for investment and economic activity in mining.

In reality, this decision may have the opposite effect, undermining both the nation’s economic interests and the long-term sustainability of the mining industry in our country.

Precious stones and metals are high-value, low-volume commodities, making them highly liquid and easily tradable on international markets. By removing export duty on these commodities, the government is carelessly creating an environment where traders—not genuine investors—stand to benefit the most. Without satisfactory taxation, Zambia risks becoming merely a source of raw materials, with no mechanisms to encourage value addition or reinvestment into the sector.

This development will, in turn, discourage legitimate mineral exploration and long-term mining investments that could have significantly contributed to the country’s economic wealth.

This government must ensure that all minerals, including precious metals and gemstones, benefit its citizens.

We urge President Hakainde Hichilema and his government to prioritize local interests in resource exploitation. Allowing foreign entities to extract and export resources without paying any duty or contributing revenue to the state, will only deepen economic woes.

The Zambian people will continue to face high living costs, while investors and traders amass significant wealth with little accountability.

Economic and Revenue Implications

The purpose of export duties on precious metals and gemstones is to:
1. Regulate trade – Prevent uncontrolled exportation of national wealth.
2. Generate revenue – Ensure that the government collects funds that can be reinvested into public services, infrastructure, and social programs.
3. Control the export of sovereign wealth reserves – Particularly for commodities such as gold, which play a critical role in national financial stability.

However, with this suspension, the government is surrendering control over the trade of Zambia’s most valuable resources.
The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) will lose a critical revenue stream, funds that should be used to improve the welfare of Zambian citizens.
We are more concerned that, this move discourages domestic processing industries, which could have created jobs and contributed to economic diversification.

We are also alarmed that the consequence of this decision is the likelihood of increased illegal mining and smuggling. With no duty imposed on exports, there will be no effective way to measure production volumes, making it easier for foreigners to exploit and export minerals without any viable oversight.

Citizens First recommend the following in order to maximize the benefits for the people of Zambia:
• Export duties should remain in place for precious gemstones and metals to regulate trade and ensure the government collects its fair share of revenue.
• Tax incentives should be targeted at exploration companies, as they undertake high-risk investments that contribute to long-term sustainability of the mining industry.
• Producing mining companies, which already generate significant profits, should continue paying taxes, as enshrined in Zambia’s laws that recognize minerals as a national asset for the benefit of all citizens.
• The government should adopt a balanced fiscal regime that promotes investment in exploration while ensuring that producing companies contribute fairly to the economy.

In case Dr. Musokotwane doesn’t know, the suspension of export duty on precious metals and gemstones does not promote sustainable investment. Instead, it opens the door to unregulated trade, revenue loss, and increased smuggling—leaving Zambia with little to show for its rich natural resources. The government must urgently reconsider this policy and implement a framework that safeguards national wealth, promotes domestic industrial growth, and ensures that Zambia’s minerals benefit its citizens rather than foreign traders and speculators.

Harare Town Clerk Earns More Than SA President, US$30K Salary Outrages Zimbabweans

Harare Town Clerk Earns More Than SA President, US$30K Salary Outrages Zimbabweans

Zimbabweans are furious after discovering that Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango earns a monthly salary 1.5 times higher than that of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Harare Town Clerk Earns More Than SA President
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume disclosed that top city executives are raking in excessive salaries despite the capital’s crumbling service delivery. While the town clerk earns a salary of US$30,000 (over R550,000 per month), the lowest-paid city director is reportedly taking home US$15,000.

For context, President Ramaphosa earns around R4.2 million per year, meaning the Harare Town Clerk makes more annually than South Africa’s President or his Vice President Paul Mashatile whose salary package is just under R3 165 000 per annum.

Harare Town Clerk Chisango’s Monthly Salary Causes Outrage
Angry Zimbabweans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their outrage over the hefty salaries, especially considering the city’s failing water supply, uncollected garbage, and lack of basic worker uniforms. Here are some of the comments

@ali_naka:

Harare Town Clerk’s salary is 1.5 times higher than President Ramaphosa’s salary. Meanwhile Harare’s economy is the size of Hillbrow. Zimbabweans are led by SATANISTs

@OnsonMash:

Considering what is happening in Harare with refuse collection and the water situation the Harare town clerk shouldn’t be earning more than $5000. What is happening there is utterly ridiculous

@DThatshy:

Honestly we need new leaders,,the painful thing is that Jacob is in the opposition,,So in the case Zanu or Ccc ngu 6 lo 9,,everyone will be preaching change to get into the high chair, once the person is there laye us eating,,Cry my beloved country

@admiret4:
This is ridiculous. Reminds me of a certain Cuthbert Dube who was earning US$230 000per month at PSMAS at some point. That’s what happens when a system rewards on cronyism rather than performance

@tfmadyangove:
They steal without shame and what worries me is they don’t even seem to get worried and I wonder how do they even sleep at night with this unabated thievery

Lusaka, 19th February 2025 – For months, the case had gripped Zambia’s financial sector and law enforcement agencies, raising complex questions about financial crime, asset seizure, and the thin line between legitimate business and illicit transactions. On February 14, 2025, the Economic and Financial Crimes Court, presided over by Judges Yangailo, Siloka, and Malata-Ononuji, delivered its highly anticipated judgment, bringing clarity to a matter that had drawn intense scrutiny.

At the Centre of it all were Nigerian nationals  who presented themselves as legitimate businesspeople unfairly targeted by Zambia’s financial crime authorities. Their companies, duly registered under Zambian law, controlled multiple bank accounts through which millions of dollars flowed. But when their transactions triggered red flags, leading the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) to freeze their accounts, the real battle began.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) applied for the forfeiture of the seized funds, arguing that the financial activity bore the traits of money laundering. DEC investigator Patrick Chileshe Kafusha detailed how bulk deposits, third-party transfers, and a lack of credible documentation pointed to an elaborate scheme designed to disguise the origins of the funds. Crucially, despite handling over $4.6 million, the companies failed to demonstrate any meaningful business activity that would justify such transactions.

The Interested Parties, however, saw things differently. Their argument was simple: they were currency traders, handling large transactions for well-known clients, including multinational corporations. The funds, they insisted, belonged to their clients, and they were merely facilitators of cross-border financial transactions. They even pointed to a Zambian corporate consultant, a Mr. Lewis Chisenga*, who had helped them set up their businesses and navigate regulatory requirements.

But as the case progressed, cracks began to show in their case opposing the application by the DPP. The court was presented with evidence that the business addresses they provided were either misleading or incorrect, and that crucial supporting documentation was either missing or inconsistent with normal financial practices.

After weighing the evidence, the court delivered a resounding verdict in favour of the State. The judgment was undeniable: the money in question was subject to forfeiture. The court ruled that the Interested Parties had failed to demonstrate a legitimate commercial basis for the large transactions moving through their bank accounts. The financial trail, rather than establishing lawful trading activities, only deepened suspicions of money laundering.

In a particularly damning observation, the court noted that even though the companies were registered in Zambia, there were inconsistencies in business records, fictitious office addresses, and an alarming absence of tax filings or revenue declarations. Rather than confirming a legitimate business model, the paper trail reinforced suspicions of financial misconduct.

The judgment reinforced the principle that mere company registration does not legitimize questionable financial activity. The court emphasised that financial institutions and businesses must not only comply with banking regulations but also operate with transparency and accountability to prevent the abuse of Zambia’s financial system for illicit purposes.

This judgment stands as a defining precedent in Zambia’s fight against financial crime. It sends a clear warning to entities that exploit legal loopholes to conduct dubious financial transactions. More importantly, it highlights the country’s commitment to protecting its financial system from being used as a conduit for money laundering.

The case also highlights the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in financial investigations. By combining intelligence, forensic accounting, and legal enforcement, authorities were able to connect the dots, leading to a successful prosecution.

For law-abiding businesses, the message is clear: transparency matters. For those who seek to misuse Zambia’s financial infrastructure, the warning is even clearer – illicit financial dealings will not go unnoticed, and the law will take its course.

As the dust settles on this case, one thing remains certain: Zambia’s commitment to tackling financial crime has never been stronger.

Mnangagwa’s 2030 withdrawal violates ZANU-PF Conference resolution

0

President Emmerson Mnangagwa will continue to serve beyond the maximum term limit as adherence to the party structures’ demand and last year’s conference resolution number one, ZANU-PF insiders and influential members under his faction have vowed.

Mnangagwa’s camp claimed that the President is legally bound to continue serving as the first secretary of the party and no further succession will take place outside the resolutions made in Bulawayo.

“Comrade this is politics and we will stick to conference resolution number 1 which is an expression that the masses wanted President Mnangagwa to continue at the helm until or beyond 2030. We will stick to that resolution and anything outside that will be as good as tampering with our constitutional resolutions,” the defiant source and loyalist said.

“We cannot betray the masses’ conference resolution expression in an effort to impress a small pressure group. We stick to the means and processes which do not violate resolutions unanimously made by the party structures,” the source added.

“We are not going to succumb to pressure from a small pressure group with its purported act to overturn the will of the people. We will use any means possible to force the President to adhere to the conference resolution which endorsed him as the sole candidate until and beyond 2030,” the source added.

“The President is not going to withdraw from carrying on until 2030 and we will either convince him that the masses within and outside our structures have demanded that you should carry on. Withdrawal will be the greatest betrayal to ZANU-PF structures and violation of our party constitution driven from resolutions by the last conference which endorsed him,” the source said.

Meanwhile, when contacted by this publication’s news crew on the way forward in making sure that they will adhere to conference resolution number 1 versus recent pronouncement and clarity by Mnangagwa towards staying beyond 2030, the party’s Secretary-General, Obert Mpofu was evasive to answer but claimed that the party will follow what the President said.

“Yes the resolution for him to stay beyond 2030 was made before, during and after our conference held in Bulawayo. My brother, let me tell you the truth, we will only listen to what the President has said. We cannot change or overturn what he said, we just follow,” Obert Mpofu said.

Further asked what they would do and how they would address those structures that endorsed President Mnangagwa’s stay in power beyond 2030, and if it would not violate their party constitution or conference resolution, Mpofu was evasive again.

“Yes, they endorsed him, but if he does not want to serve beyond that time frame, it is beyond our control please. As for violating the resolutions, I can’t answer you on that, but what I can assure you is that we will stick to what the President has said,” Mpofu further promised.

ZANU-PF spokesman, Christopher Mutsvangwa (then) claimed that succession into the party’s helm is done through the ballot not the bullet system. Addressing the media during a press briefing then, Mutsvangwa said the party will only follow what the structures have said and nothing outside that will be entertained.

A viral video has also surfaced where Mnangagwa loyalists (featuring War Veteran Douglas Mahiya, Presidential Advisor, Paul Tempter Tungwarara, among others) are vowing to persuade him to continue serving beyond 2030.

Despite pressure from loyalists backing the most feared and powerful Army Commander, General (Retired) Chiwenga, Mnangagwa is caught in between conference resolution number 1 and pressure to pass the baton his deputy. Claims are that the two had a secret and well-planned succession agreement which would first enable Mnangagwa to lead and leave the baton to Chiwenga if he served his constitutional terms.

Facing pressure from war veterans and other circles backing Chiwenga to takeover, Mnangagwa summoned state and few selected privately-owned media editors to announce that he would not seek to serve beyond the maximum limit.

Kendrick Lamar Becomes First Rapper To Hit 100 Million Spotify Monthly Listeners

0

Following a few days of excited anticipation, Kendrick Lamar has officially been recognized as the first hip-hop artiste to garner over 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify as of the morning of Monday, February 17, 2025.

Reports say people have been waiting for this moment for a while now, as they predicted his Super Bowl halftime show would put his numbers up even more and witnessed how, day by day, his monthly listeners rose and rose.

This is deemed a massive feat for the artist, who reportedly never prioritized numbers and commercial performance in his art or his public moves.

What’s more is that this isn’t Kendrick Lamar’s only astonishing, albeit supplementary, commercial development this week. He became the first lead artist in the United States to garner a billion streams in 2025.

In addition, the Compton lyricist reportedly became the first MC to have three albums chart simultaneously on the Billboard 200 albums chart’s top ten. We still need to see the official chart to know for sure. But reports and projections indicate that GNX returned to the top spot, whereas DAMN. and good kid, m.A.A.d. city claimed the last two slots in the top ten.

Meanwhile, as “Not Like Us” continues to dominate streaming charts, Kendrick Lamar can probably coast off of his past 11 months for 11 more years.

In other news, Kendrick Lamar was spotted in California, this week, filming scenes for South Park co-creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s next project.

In a video circulating on social media, the “Not Like Us” rapper gets to work on the highly anticipated live-action comedy. He and his collaborator, Dave Free, are serving as producers behind the scenes, and it is slated to hit theaters on July 4, 2025.

In a statement provided to Variety, earlier this year, Paramount CEO Brian Robbins said: “This script is one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read and it’s certain to create some fireworks.”

ZNS CAPTAIN IN CRITICAL CONDITION FOLLOWING SUSPECTED SELF-HARM INCIDENT

A captain from the Zambia National Service (ZNS), based at the Monze Milling Plant, is reported to be in critical condition following a suspected case of self-harm.

He was found unconscious with a deep cut on his neck.

The officer has been identified as 32-year-old Leroy Mumba, and the incident is estimated to have occurred between 17:00 hours on 17th February 2025 and 11:30 hours the following day in Monze’s Mainza Chona Compound.

Mumba was discovered by his wife lying on the bed in the spare bedroom, surrounded by a pool of blood.

According to an incident report submitted, Southern Province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka noted that the victim had earlier taken his wife, a nurse, to Monze Mission Hospital for her night shift.

He is said to have returned home with their three-year-old daughter.

Around 07:18 hours the next day, his wife called to check if he had taken their daughter to school, but he sounded sleepy.

Daka stated that when the wife returned home at 11:20 hours after finishing her shift, she found the gate to their home unlocked.

When she knocked on the kitchen door, their daughter opened it.

Upon entering the house, she discovered blood prints on the kitchen floor and in the main bedroom, but her husband was nowhere to be found.

Daka conveyed that she found the spare bedroom door locked and observed more blood stains on the door.

After failing to open it, she called her husband’s supervisor, who arrived around 11:35 hours.

When the door was finally opened, they found Mumba lying on the bed, facing upwards, in a pool of blood, with a bath towel on his neck. Police officers who rushed to the scene confirmed the incident.

Daka mentioned that a military knife with blood stains was found on the bed.

Mumba was rushed to Monze Mission Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

South African Govt Cracks Down on Illegal Employment: Employers Fined for Hiring Foreign Workers Without Permits

South African Government Cracks Down on Illegal Employment: Employers Fined for Hiring Foreign Workers Without Permits

The Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) has imposed fines totaling R680,000 on 68 employers found guilty of hiring foreign nationals without valid work permits.

This action, revealed in a parliamentary reply by Minister Nomakhosazana Meth, is part of ongoing efforts to enforce immigration and labour laws.

Joint Inspections Lead to Arrests
According to Meth, the department collaborates with the Department of Home Affairs and law enforcement agencies to conduct blitz inspections. These inspections aim to ensure compliance with labour laws while verifying the validity of visas and work permits.

“In the event of non-compliance with immigration laws, the Department of Home Affairs arrests the non-compliant employers and employees,” Meth stated.

During the latest blitz, 68 employers and 322 foreign nationals were found violating regulations across all nine provinces. Each employer was fined R10,000, amounting to a total of R680,000, while the undocumented employees were taken for further immigration processing.

Eastern Cape Tops List of Violators
The Eastern Cape recorded the highest number of violations, with 34 employers fined a collective R340,000. Mpumalanga followed with 15 cases, while Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape had eight, five, and two cases, respectively.

Among the 322 undocumented foreign workers arrested, Limpopo had the highest number at 163, followed by the Western Cape with 43. Gauteng and the Eastern Cape recorded 34 each, while Mpumalanga had 30.

Thousands of Work Permits Rejected
In a separate parliamentary response, Meth revealed that DEL received 6,255 work permit applications between April 2023 and March 2024. Of the 60 corporate applications processed, 5,383 were rejected, while 872 work visas were recommended.

Most applications came from Zimbabwe (445), Lesotho (250), Mozambique (86), and Namibia (70), mainly for jobs in mining, agriculture, and education.

However, final decisions on work permits are made by the Department of Home Affairs, which may approve or deny applications after consulting with relevant security departments.

U.S, Russia Appoint Teams For Ukraine Peace Talks

0

The U.S. and Russia have agreed to appoint “high-level” teams to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, the US State Department has announced following a discussion between both parties in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, the discussions are just part of discussions aimed at both ending the war and calming tensions between both countries.

“One phone call followed by one meeting is not sufficient to establish enduring peace,” Bruce stated.

“We must take action, and today we took an important step forward,” she added.

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, speaking to reporters after the meeting, said both nations had agreed to “create conditions to restore cooperation in full.”

The agreement marks a significant step towards a diplomatic approach to ending the war, though the absence of Ukrainian officials from the discussions has drawn criticism from Kyiv.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized the meeting for taking place without Ukrainian representation.

Speaking in Ankara alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Zelensky warned reiterated that he will not accept any agreements that do not include Ukraine as a key decision-maker.

“It is fundamentally important that any talks to end the war do not happen behind the backs of the parties involved,” Zelensky stated.

“The negotiation table must represent all parties—America, Europe, and Ukraine,” he added.

Zelensky further cautioned against potential mistakes in peace talks, emphasizing that any rushed or unbalanced settlement could lead to future conflict.

However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking after the Riyadh talks, reassured allies that the negotiations were not excluding key players.

“No one is being sidelined here,” Rubio said, emphasizing that any resolution must be acceptable to all parties involved.

“These are the kind of things that take place through hard and difficult diplomacy in closed rooms over a period of time,” Rubio said.

Despite the progress, Rubio acknowledged that achieving a lasting peace will require more discussions and careful diplomacy.

“This is the first step of a long and difficult journey, but it is an important one,” he said.

The coming weeks are likely to determine how the newly established teams will operate and whether Ukraine will be brought into the discussions.

Jay-Z & Beyonce Go On First Public Outing Following Dismissal Of Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Following the dismissal of the sexual assault lawsuit against Sean Carter, better known as Jay Z, he has been spotted for the first time in town with his partner, Beyonce.

TMZ reports via new photos that the power couple went out for dinner in New York City on the night of February 16, 2025, at the Italian restaurant Cipriani. Pictures of the two showed them smiling and seemingly having a good time.

In a reported court filing, Jay Z spoke on how these accusations caused trauma for him and his family over the past three months or so.

Not only that, but Jay-Z also alleged that the sexual assault lawsuit against him and Diddy also cost him millions in partnerships.

“Immediately after Mr. Buzbee went public with his false accusations, my company Roc Nation lost contracts in the sports and entertainment space that would have generated revenues of approximately $20 million per year,” he reportedly claimed.

In addition, Jay Z even suggested that attorney Tony Buzbee filed the lawsuit on the eve of Blue Ivy’s Lion King premiere.

At press time, it’s still unclear exactly why the plaintiff dropped this sexual assault lawsuit against Jay-Z and Diddy. Both defendants denied settlements, and Tony Buzbee cannot refile this case due to its dismissal with prejudice.

Beyonce is looking forward to her Cowboy Carter tour coming soon, which should be another massive success.

In other news, Disney is gearing up for the release of Mufasa: The Lion King, which is a new prequel to the 2019 blockbuster live-action, Lion King.

The trailer for the film was released and has quickly made rounds on social media. Beyonce will reportedly return to the film for her role as Nala, and in more surprising news, her daughter, Blue Ivy, has also landed a role in the prequel starring as Kiara, the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala.

The official summary of the movie reads: “Simba, having become king of the Pride Lands, is determined for his cub to follow in his paw prints while the origins of his late father Mufasa are explored.”

Nick Cannon Blames Meagan Good For Having Children With Different Women; Here Is Why

Nick Cannon poked a joke at his good friend Meagan Good, suggesting she was why he had many children with different women.

Appearing on the We Playing Spades podcast, Nick said he was attracted to Meagan Good, who has been a friend since their teenage years. He, however, explained that although they were close, they were never in a romantic relationship.

“We [were] too young to date… I don’t want to call it date…I would say she was the first person to ever really break my heart,” he joked.

The host then escalated the humor saying….“This is why this [man] got 80 baby mamas because it started there… You’re the villain in this story.”

Records indicate Nick Cannon had his first set of twins with his ex-wife and celebrated singer, Mariah Carey, in 2011. They divorced in 2016 and he welcomed a son with model Brittany Bell, in 2017. Between 2020 and 2022, he had nine more children with Bell and four other women.

Reports indicate Cannon always goes out of his way to connect with his kids for the holidays, whether it’s Christmas or Easter. Last year, he discussed how he was celebrating Thanksgiving with all his children.

He explained that he envisioned himself being quite full by the end of the day, as some people planned the day with dishes such as sweet potato pie and fried turkey.

Nick previously opened up about his diagnosis with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). As a strong advocate for mental health, and has decided to come public about his struggles.

Speaking to People Magazine, he emphasized needing help for the condition, following a test. He explained, at the time, that conversations about his mental health could help other people find help for their challenges.

“I feel like there’s so many labels out there, but it’s like, to be able to embrace it and say, ‘Look, I’m healing. I need help. Show me.’ I just embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way. To be able to say I’m an example for others, but also be healing during the self-process works too,” he stated.

Ancelotti Warns Real Madrid Players Not To Underrate Man City

0

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has warned his players not to underestimate Manchester City ahead of their Champions League clash on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The defending champions won the first leg 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium thanks to a last-minute winner from Jude Bellingham.

Man City’s Pep Guardiola revealed on Tuesday that they have only one per cent chance of progressing to the next round at the expense of Real Madrid.

Ancelotti disagreed with Guardiola, urging his players not to underrate Manchester City in the encounter.

He said: “He does not truly think that, tomorrow I’ll ask him before the game – do you really think you’ve got a one per cent chance?.

“He really thinks they’ve got more chances than that… we don’t think we have 99 per cent chance.

“We think we have a small advantage that we have to take advantage of, and try to play the same game we set up in the first leg, which went well.

“Learning to play with the advantage is a psychological issue, and it is difficult to deal with it. I could come here and say that we have no advantage and will play as if we were 0-0… but it’s nonsense and nobody would believe me.

“What you can control is the attitude of the team and ensure we play the same game as a week ago because it went well for us. But you can’t forget that you have the advantage.”

Real Madrid have been enmeshed in a controversial clash with match officials in Spain after Jude Bellingham was sent off against Osasuna on Saturday.

Ancelotti admitted that he is comfortable with officiating in the Champions League.

He said: “I do (feel calmer), the statistics speak for themselves. There is less controversy and less intervention by the VAR (in the Champions League), which only intervenes when necessary.

“In the Champions League, only the best referees from each country are assigned, and the quality is very high in this respect.

“I have doubts (about VAR) because I think VAR has taken too much responsibility away from the referee. It’s a bit of a dangerous system.

“The VAR has been introduced to avoid blatant and obvious mistakes, not for interventions that are football-related. Often the aim is to remove all the naturalness of football for the sake of an image.”

Ancelotti also confirmed that Antonio Rudiger is fit to start against Manchester City on Wednesday.

Man City warmed up for the clash with a dominant 4-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday, while Real Madrid played out a disappointing 1-1 draw against Osasuna

Feyenoord Knock AC Milan Out Of Champions League

AC Milan crashed out of the Champions League after being held to a draw by Feyenoord in the second leg of their knockout play-off at San Siro Stadium.

The Italians wiped out a 1-0 deficit in last week’s first leg after just 36 seconds as Santiago Gimenez netted against his former club with the fastest goal in this season’s Champions League.

But Milan full-back Theo Hernandez was sent off in the 51st minute for two yellow cards and Feyenoord substitute Julian Carranza headed in the decisive 73rd-minute goal to seal a 2-1 aggregate success.

The last-16 draw, to be held on Friday, will decide whether the Dutch club face Inter Milan or Arsenal next month.

Seven-time European champions Milan had the perfect start with Gimenez’s effort.

Christian Pulisic’s cross to the back post was nodded back into the danger zone by Malick Thiaw for the Mexico international to head home from close range for his sixth goal of the competition – five of which came in Feyenoord colours before he left them in the winter transfer window.

Sergio Conceicao’s side pushed for the aggregate lead as Tijjani Reijnders and Joao Felix went close, before Hernandez’s fierce strike cannoned off the upright in the 23rd minute.

Rafael Leao was denied by Timon Wellenreuther in the closing stages of the first half and the Feyenoord goalkeeper was also tested again early in the second half by Kyle Walker’s low drive from the edge of the box.

The Dutch side, under interim manager Pascal Bosschaart, were then handed a boost when Frenchman Hernandez received a second booking for simulation six minutes after the restart.

Feyenoord capitalised on the numerical advantage as Carranza met Hugo Bueno’s cross to plant a thumping header past Milan captain Mike Maignan and send his side through to the last 16 of of the premier European competition for the first time since 1974.

However, they will be without Givairo Read for the last-16 tie as the right-back received a red card for violent conduct when tensions flared between the sides after the final whistle.

SOCIALIST PARTY IS DYING BECAUSE FRED M’MEMBE’S ONLY MESSAGE IS ABOUT WESTERN PUPPETS ; FIND A BETTER WAY OF FUNDRAISING

By Mark SImuuwe

We have taken note of Fred M’Membe’s statement in today’s Mast Newspaper.

No politician ever won elections in Africa by discussing  and scandalizing other countries  .

This is why even socialist countries like China , under President Xi Jinping have now what they are calling , the “ opening up policy with a shared future through a win-win situation“, to allow for Foreign Direct Investment.

China started their FDI by experimenting with Shanghai and Shenzhen; the results were marvelous and they have now coined their socialism as “Socialism with Chinese characteristics. “

I am not sure if Fred M’membe understands this or he is deliberately burying his head in the sand by swimming in the mud .

Even our all-weather friends , the Russians , have investments in other countries. For avoidance of doubt , 60 percent of oil Europe has been consuming has been coming from Russia.

Further , Russia for many years , has been the main exporter of gas to Germany.

Zambia itself has been a beneficiary of fertilizer and other products from Russia for many years .

In other words , no country is an island. Similarly, even the USA itself cannot thrive without other countries. All countries in the world need each other to survive .

Unfortunately , politicians like Fred M’membe are using such statements of “puppets of the west “, for fundraising purposes .

If M’membe ,by accident , became President of Zambia today , Zambia would  seriously face diplomatic  challenges .

Clearly , M’membe has no message for Zambians  . The cheap propaganda of wanting to malign President Hakainde Hichilema with the West rhetoric so as to create a fake impression in the mind of the Eastern Countries is cheap politics, which is only aimed at soliciting funds.

We can do better in politics by explaining what agenda we have for electorates rather than always blaming others .

We challenge M’membe to tell Zambians what Socialist Party foreign policy is , if they have any; we can only predict a chaotic situation.

M’membe’s Postnewspaper went down because Fred M’membe was preaching hate speech and causing ethnic division in the country.

According to Zambia Revenue Authority ( ZRA) then , M’membe’s Post was not remitting the money he was deducting from the workers .

It is a well known fact that M’membe survives  on issuing such statements by armtwisting some countries that seem to be anti -Western Ideologies in order for them to finance him.

Unfortunately, it is now getting dry for him because many far -Eastern  countries are beginning to see through Fred M’membe’s deceit .

Zambia is a sovereign state  with so many bilateral relations with about 40 countries hosting Zambian missions, which include Some
Western  Countries and the far -Eastern Countries , and have signed a number of MoUs.

It is being politically naive to always think of surviving on dirty politics of emotional blackmail.

We urge M’membe to work for his money than raising money by calling others names . This is why we are trying to change the mind-set of Zambians to stop relying on insulting others for hand-outs .

M’membe is a bad example to Zambian youths ; he cannot demonstrate how to survive using his hands and brain.

M’membe is using outdated politics of issuing desparaging remarks against others in order to be funded . The geopolitical landscape of today wants critical thinkers with information on how to fight poverty, grow the economy, brave economic shocks , create a favorable environment for businesses to grow for Micro, small and medium enterprises, and later on , help citizens to be self -sustaining.

This is what the United Party for National Development ( UPND) stands for . This is why we are empowering farmers with irrigation equipment so that we can produce more for the nation and then export the surplus to attract forex . UPND stands for free education , increased empowerment of citizens through Market booster loans , helping universities by ensuring students have meal allowances, massive recruitment of youths and women so that they can have an income, growing the mining sector for economic growth, grow the energy sector through various local and international MoUs like the one ZESCO has signed with China’s power utility company , among other co-operating partners .

Unfortunately, the political dynamics of the current global order do not allow such persons like M’membe to play such dirty political gymnastics of bickering and bitterness .

We urge Fred to sober up and tell Zambians what Socialist Party is offering. Socialist party is dying by day and so many SP members have fled due to a lack of visionary leadership .

What is remaining now is a complete political shell 🐚.

We urge Fred to focus on growing the dying party than creating meaningless headlines , which offer no solution to Zambia’s problems.

Giving our people the UPND more time will destroy the country further

You claim the debt issue is fixed and yet we have only postponed $3.5bn of our debt meanwhile whereas Lungu borrows $7bn in 7 years, our man is now at $8.9bn in under 4 years.

How is this fixing a problem?

Look at our policies, we literally give tax breaks to the mines and then over tax the locals. The capital flight cannot even be controlled, FIC every 6 months is alerting the nation about $2.8bn that has left or about k60bn gone illicit transactions and you think the kwacha can survive?

Then we surrender KCM and Mopani for “free” to investors who have pumped in nearly “nothing” into the country or the economy to help stabilize the kwacha, tell me what policy have we implemented to stabilize the currency? NONE

Mealie meal prices are more than double from k126 under PF to k429 now that’s 300% largely because HH exported 1.9m tonnes of FRA reserve maize and we have to now import at high prices.

Make matters worse the state is now importing through cadres the most expensive fertilizer ever at $1407 per tonne when even the PF imported at $900. During campaigns HH rightly revealed that it’s only $250 in Dubai so why the discrepancy.

Food is 3 times the prices because of these bad decisions. Then you fail to control an electricity crisis for 2 whole years letting SMEs die and their surviving have to increase cost which affect consumers. We blamed PF for spending $100m on importing power yet that solved the problem, now we are sending $82m to China “accidentally” rather than paying for power imports to stave off disaster. What logic is this?

Then we go ahead and surrender the fuel sector to an inexperienced for business partner of the President, Mr. Shashi Patel of Agro Fuels to monopolize the sector and add huge markups.

EGGS are now double the price as 2021, Chickens, Kapenta, Beans almost tripled the prices. Someone who was getting a salary of k3000 in 2021 now needs literally a k9000 salary.
