Five to be accused of espionage for Russia in UK

0

Five individuals believed to have been involved in spying for Russia will be formally accused of conspiring to carry out acts of espionage.

Orlin Roussev, Bizer Dzhambazov, Katrin Ivanova, Ivan Stoyanov, and Vanya Gaberova have a court hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The Bulgarians are accused of planning to collect helpful information for an enemy from August 2020 to February 2023.

The Metropolitan Police did an investigation, and this comes after it.

The defendants are accused of being part of a spy group for the Russian security services. They are said to have spied on specific people.

They are accused of doing secret work in the UK and Europe and giving information to Russia.

Mr Roussev, who is 45 years old, is accused of managing operations from the UK and connecting with individuals who received the intelligence.

Police officers searched properties in London and Norfolk that belonged to three people: Mr. Dzhambazov, and Ms. During their search, they discovered supposedly fake passports and official identification documents for various countries, including the UK, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, and the Czech Republic.

Some of the papers had pictures of Mr. Roussev and Mr. Some people believe that Mr. Roussev created fake documents himself.

The group is accused of planning a secret operation in Montenegro. In this operation, they made fake ID cards for journalists, including one that looked like Ms.

Mr Dzhambazov, and Ms. Ivanova have been living in the UK for a long time. They have been working in different types of jobs and living in various suburban houses.

Mr Roussev has done business in Russia in the past. He went to the UK in 2009 and worked for three years in a technical job in the finance industry.

On his LinkedIn page, it says that he eventually owned a company that dealt with signals intelligence. This means they intercepted and analyzed communications or electronic signals.

Mr Roussev, who currently lives in a seaside guesthouse in Great Yarmouth, says that he used to give advice to the Bulgarian ministry of energy.

In Harrow, people who used to live near Mr Dzhambazov and Ms Ivanova said they were a couple.

Mr Dzhambazov is a driver for hospitals and Ms Ivanova works as a laboratory assistant in a private health business, according to her LinkedIn profile.

The couple moved to the UK about 10 years ago. They started an organization that helps Bulgarian people in the UK by teaching them about British culture and how things are done here.

According to Bulgarian government papers on the internet, they also helped with voting for Bulgarians living in London during Bulgarian elections.

South Korea conducts narcotics raids at US military camp

0

South Korean police are looking into the case of 17 American soldiers and five others who are suspected of smuggling or using fake marijuana through military mail.

This means that there were raids in at least two US army bases in May, including Camp Humphreys, which is the biggest base outside of the US.

A person from the Philippines and someone from South Korea were taken into custody while lawyers are studying the evidence for all 22 people involved.

A suggestion from a branch of the US Army led to a four-month investigation by Korean authorities.

According to Cha Min-seok, a senior detective in South Korea, US media reported that it was one of the biggest incidents in recent years involving American soldiers.

South Korean police and the US Army’s Criminal Investigation Division worked together to search the homes of 22 suspects. During these raids, they discovered 77g (2. 7oz) of synthetic cannabis, over 4kg of “mixed liquids” used for vaping, and a total of $12,850 (£10,440) in cash.

They are said to have brought synthetic marijuana (also called K2 and Spice) into the country using the US military’s postal service.

Seven people, which includes five soldiers, are believed to have taken part in selling drugs. Out of the total number, 12 were drug users and three acted as mediators. The police told the BBC that the husband or wife of a soldier and the person engaged to another soldier are also part of this.

The police said that there are 17 soldiers right now at Camp Humphreys, which is about 48km (30 miles) south of Seoul. There are also some soldiers at Camp Casey, an army outpost about 40km north of Seoul.

They supposedly shared the drugs at the locations and talked through Snapchat.

The United States Forces in Korea said on Wednesday that they know about the investigation. There are no soldiers being held or confined right now, according to a statement.

Synthetic marijuana is created to imitate THC, the primary compound in marijuana that causes mind-altering effects.

Although it has similar effects to cannabis, it is usually stronger and can cause harmful health issues like sudden episodes of mental illness, extreme paranoia, and intense restlessness.

The police said it’s hard to find because people often use it in liquid form with legal e-cigarette devices.

In South Korea, people who are found guilty of selling marijuana can be sentenced to prison for a minimum of five years and possibly for the rest of their lives. Having drugs can lead to getting a punishment of up to five years in jail or having to pay around 50 million won ($37,200; £30,300).

Saudi Arabia moving towards normalisation agreement with Israel –MBS

0

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince has said that their relationship with Israel is getting better every day and that it is moving towards becoming more normal.

If the two powerful countries make an agreement, it would be a big change in the area.

In a rare interview with Fox News, Mohammed bin Salman emphasized that the Palestinian issue is still a very important part of talks mediated by the US.

During negotiations, the Wall Street Journal reported that Israeli and US officials were developing a plan that may allow Riyadh to openly enrich uranium.

Enriched uranium can be used to create fuel for nuclear reactors, but it can also be used for making nuclear weapons.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not yet responded publicly to the article, even though Netanyahu has previously warned about the dangers of countries in the Middle East acquiring nuclear weapons at the same time.

The Fox News interview was shown soon after Mr. Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden met during the UN General Assembly in New York.

They also said it’s possible that Israel and Saudi Arabia may become friends and start talking to each other officially for the first time. The US is a very good friend of both countries.

A statement from Israel said the meeting in New York was mainly about finding ways to make a peace agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia. This agreement could help bring an end to the conflict between Arab countries and Israel.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, said that a basic agreement could be ready by early next year. Mr Cohen said that it is possible to close the gaps. He mentioned this to Israel’s Army Radio. It will require some time. But things are getting better.

The Biden administration wants to finish the ratification process in the US Congress within that time. Many people in the Democratic Party, including the president, are concerned about Saudi Arabia’s human rights history. This would be a major accomplishment in the country’s foreign relations before the upcoming US presidential election.

Saudi Arabia, like many other Arab nations, has chosen not to acknowledge or acknowledge the existence of Israel because they want to show support and stand together with the Palestinians.

But in recent months, the United States has been working towards achieving a significant development that would continue the progress made through the Abraham Accords. These accords, facilitated by the Trump administration, resulted in Israel and the United Arab Emirates as well as Bahrain signing agreements to normalize their relations in 2020.

Saudi Arabia wants to improve its relationship with Israel. In return, they are asking the United States for help with their military, assistance in starting a civilian nuclear program, and for Israel to make important compromises for the Palestinians.

The Palestinian issue is really important to us. We have to figure out how to solve this part: Crown Prince Mohammed, who is the real leader of Saudi Arabia, told a reporter from Fox News named Bret Baier in English.

He said: “Our plan for negotiations has been good so far. ”

Earlier this month, leaders of the Palestinian Authority discussed their demands for a potential agreement involving the US, Saudi Arabia, and Israel during a meeting with Saudi officials in Riyadh. The BBC found out that these involved getting a lot of money and being able to have more power over land in the West Bank, which is currently under occupation.

When asked about working with Mr. Netanyahu’s strong government, Prince Mohammed said that if they can make progress and reach an agreement that satisfies the needs of Palestinians and brings peace to the region, they will collaborate with whoever is in power.

Many people in Israel’s current government disagree with the idea of the two-state solution that is supported by countries around the world to solve the conflict between Israel and Palestine. This means that there will be a separate country called Palestine, which will be next to Israel in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The main city of Palestine will be in East Jerusalem.

Before the prime minister’s discussions in New York, 11 politicians from his own right-wing Likud party stated together that they would prevent any efforts to provide land to the Palestinians in return for peace with Saudi Arabia.

Israeli politicians are worried about the issues brought up in The Wall Street Journal report.

“Turning Saudi Arabia into a nuclear power with a right-wing government’s support is extremely dangerous and crazy,” Tali Gottlieb, a member of parliament from the Likud party, said on X platform, previously known as Twitter.

The US newspaper reported that Mr. Netanyahu asked important nuclear and security experts in Israel to work together with American negotiators on a plan for the United States to manage the process of enriching uranium in Saudi Arabia. Unnamed officials provided this information. They promised that protections would be added, and the plan still needs to be approved by President Biden.

The topic of Saudi Arabia’s nuclear plans was mentioned during Prince Mohammed’s interview on Fox News.

The Saudi leader expressed worry about any country, including Iran, having a nuclear weapon.

He repeated a point that he had made before, that if Iran gets a nuclear bomb, Saudi Arabia would have to get one too to maintain security and balance of power.

The prince said that it’s not a good idea for any country to have a nuclear weapon. He said that if a country uses a nuclear weapon, it means they are fighting against all other countries.

King Charles receives standing ovation after urging Ukraine to win war against Russia

0

King Charles got a big round of applause for his speech to the French Senate. In his speech, he urged Ukraine to win the war against Russia’s horrible invasion.

The speech talked about the serious problem of climate change and had parts in both French and English.

People were waiting to see if the King would respond to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s decision about achieving net zero.

However, the speech carefully chosen words to prevent any indirect criticism.

The King said that while the problem our planet is facing is big and serious, it is encouraging to see that our governments, people, and private companies are taking action.

Kings and queens listen to their advisors, so when they give a speech, they are expected to stay neutral on political issues.

However, it was definitely uncomfortable timing to have the prime minister suddenly change his stance on achieving net zero emissions at the same time as a state visit that prioritized environmental protection.

So it is possible that people will be watching closely for any disagreement on climate change between the government and the royal family.
In his speech, the King expressed his desire to strengthen and maintain the good relationship between France and Britain. He also wanted this relationship to focus on preserving the environment and supporting lasting development.

The King, who glanced around the fancy meeting room and appeared touched by the long clapping, mentioned how Britain and France came together during war as an inspiration for working together in current battles.

In addition to climate change, he mentioned the conflict in Ukraine as a fight for democracy and freedom because of the unexpected aggression happening on our continent.

The King said in French that we are united and determined for Ukraine to succeed and for our cherished freedoms to win.

The King mentioned that his mother, who has passed away, really loved France. He talked about the strong friendship between France and our country.

The speech was serious and didn’t have many jokes, but people liked it, especially because the King used a lot of French.

Malcolm Massey, a French language expert from the Babbel app, said that the King’s French pronunciation was good and he had a decent accent.
In a rainy Paris, he will later go to another famous place called Notre Dame. He will see how they are fixing the cathedral after it was badly damaged in a fire.

There was a meeting with famous sports players like Didier Drogba from Chelsea football team. Queen Camilla started a prize for literature between England and France.

At a gathering in the French national library, she informed the attendees that she had been a student in Paris 60 years ago.

On the last day of the three-day trip, the King and Queen will be going to see environmental projects in Bordeaux.

PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZIMBABWE, HIS EXCELLENCY, DR. E.D. MNANGAGWA, AT THE 78TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY: 21 SEPTEMBER 2023Your Excellency, Mr. Dennis Francis, President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly; Your Excellency, Mr. Antonio Guterres, SecretaryGeneral of the United Nations; Your Majesties; Excellencies, Heads of State and Government; Distinguished Delegates. I wish to congratulate you, Mr. President, on your election as the President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

We are confident that under your stewardship, we will make progress on the important global agenda before us. Please be assured of Zimbabwe’s support throughout your tenure. I also pay special tribute to your predecessor, Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, for leading the 77th Session of the General Assembly. We value the role he played to promote science in ouroverarching goal to improve the lives and livelihoods of all. Mr. President; It is imperative that we re-commit to the Charter of theUnited Nations, multilateralism, solidarity, justice and the peaceful settlement of disputes for sustainable development and a shared future. This calls on us all to respect the sovereign equality of nations, big or small, poor or rich.

By working together, we can harness our expertise andlearn from one another to strengthen international institutions for the accelerated attainment of Agenda 2030. The impact of conflicts, terrorism, climate changeinduced natural disasters, biodiversity loss, and the risingprevalence of disease and pandemics, especially in the developing world, deserve our urgent attention.

Regrettably, progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals has been uneven, while global solidarity has been tested and self-interest superseding cooperation. We have a duty to reignite our commitment to the principles of the 2030 Agenda andrekindle the spirit of multilateralism. To accelerate action on the SDGs, we must scale up investments in people and communities by ensuring access to quality education, healthcare, clean water, and sanitation for all.

The creation of economic opportunities, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, especially amongwomen and the youth, must remain a priority. Excellencies;Zimbabwe continues to entrench democracy, constitutionalism, good governance and the rule of law, following the recently held 2023 Harmonised General Elections. I am pleased to highlight that our country enjoyed peace, before, during and after our free, fair, transparent and credible elections.

Zimbabwe has been under the illegal, unilateral economic sanctions for 23 years, imposed by some Western countries. These sanctions were designed to subjugate the sovereign will of the Zimbabwean people. We, therefore, demand that the unjustified unilateral sanctions be unconditionally lifted, including those imposed on countries like Cuba. We remain grateful for the supportand solidarity of progressive countries in the comity of nations. In spite of these debilitating sanctions the people of Zimbabwe have become masters of their own destiny.

This is anchored on a philosophy that as a people, we have the duty and responsibility of developing our country, using our own domestic resources. Partners and investors are welcome, guided by our own vision and national priority areas. We are recording unprecedented development and economic success milestones. For the last three years, our country has been the fastest growing economy in our Southern African region.

Further, Zimbabwe is prioritizing the eradication of poverty and improving the quality of life of our people, particularly, those in rural areas. The empowerment and capacitation of communal and small-scale farmers has seen us realise food and nutrition security at both household and national level.

Kenyan lawmaker expelled after raising charges of bullying

0

A female senator from Kenya who calls herself a person who exposes wrongdoings has been suspended for six months by a group of politicians.

Gloria Orwoba had to appear before the Powers and Privileges Committee because of things she said in senate WhatsApp groups and at a press briefing. She claimed that there is a culture in parliament where certain people are treated better, people from certain ethnic groups face discrimination, there is a lot of bullying, and sexual harassment happens.

She said that there was a secret way to get things done, which involved giving bribes or doing sexual favors. But she decided not to do that.

She often used the hashtag #NoSexForWork when sending messages to her colleagues and complaining about things.

However, the committee stated that there was not enough evidence to support her claims.

After her punishment was finished, she would need to say sorry for her remarks before being able to return to her job.

Sarah reacted by getting angry and upset.

Ms Orwoba is currently in New York for a work trip at the Clinton Global Initiative. She mentioned that even though she had brought the matter to court, she still felt doubtful about receiving a fair judgment, and the committee went ahead and released their report.

She claimed that the committee had released its report, even though there was an ongoing legal case, because she had asked for the travel expenses of senators and staff to be made public for a specific time period.

Ms Orwoba said her request made important people in parliament feel very worried and scared.

“She claimed that right after she asked for something, they brought back up the motion to suspend me, which had been stopped before, while she was not there. ”

This politician, who is 37 years old, has been in trouble with her colleagues before. She also works to stop people from feeling ashamed about periods.

In February, she was told to leave parliament because she didn’t follow the dress rules. The reason was a visible spot of blood on her white trouser suit.

At the time, she ignored people who said she was being disrespectful and said accidents can happen. She explained that because she always speaks out against feeling ashamed of periods, she felt she should set an example and take action.

“When a letter of expulsion comes don’t entertain it, PF has no leadership” Miles Sampa Tells Speaker Nellie Mutti

0

Don’t entertain Nakacinda, Miles tells Parliament

MILES Sampa has written to Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti urging her not to entertain Alebwelepo Project coordinator Raphael Nakacinda as PF Secretary General.

In the letter dated September 20, 2023, the PF Matero member of parliament urged Mutti not to acknowledge any correspondence or instructions from individuals claiming leadership roles within the party.

Sampa’s letter to Parliament comes in the wake of growing party wrangles that have pitted him against former president Edgar Lungu who has secretly rescinded his decision to quit politics and is currently scheming to return to the helm of the party.

As part of his scheme to take control of the PF, Lungu directed party vice-president Given Lubinda to appoint Nakacinda as Secretary General to boost his Alebwelepo project.

But is his letter to Parliament, Sampa stressed the need to adhere to the party’s constitution when addressing challenges related to newly appointed party leaders.

Sampa pointed the importance of resolving the ongoing court case or holding the long-overdue general conference before recognizing any individual as a legitimate PF leader.

The internal situation within the PF has sparked a legal battle that has reached the High Court.

In February 2023, Judge Timothy Katenekwa issued a restraining order against specific party members, including acting president Given Lubinda and then-acting secretary-general Nixon Chilangwa, preventing them from performing their designated roles in the PF.

These appointments were made following the resignation of former president Edgar Lungu, who stepped down after his defeat in the last general elections. Sampa said the decision to appoint new leaders through illegitimate means constitutes a repeated disregard for the court’s restraining order.

Sampa pointed out that according to articles 52 and 53, when a President resigns, the Secretary General is meant to act as President temporarily.

Following this, an extraordinary general conference, attended by party members from all ten provinces, should be organized to democratically elect a new party President.

However, the PF has yet to convene this crucial conference, and the party has been operating without a legally recognized President or Secretary General.

Sampa has taken the case forward, and it is currently at an interlocutory stage, with an application of contempt of court filed against Lubinda, Chilangwa, Davies Mwila, and Raphael Nakchinda for their repeated disregard of the court’s restraining order.

SIKAILE SIKAILE: Open Letter to Former President Mr. Edgar Lungu

0

Open Letter to Former President Mr. Edgar Lungu

It is my hope and trust that this letter finds you well, sir. Mr. President, I wish to bring to your attention some critical issues that surround your integrity and public image following the Zimbabwe documentary manufactured by your twin-brother ZANU-PF party.

Before I continue, I appeal to ZANU-PF and President Mnangagwa: as winners of the elections, prioritize Zimbabwe’s development instead of seeking help from imperialist nations. Asking for assistance from those who might wish harm is unwise. Address claims of imperialism separately. Remember, Zimbabwe once thrived economically. I urge the documentary journalists to conduct a thorough investigation, interviewing diverse sources, rather than focusing on individuals from a party that lost power due to indiscipline, corruption, and violence against differing voices. If those they accuse behaved as ZANU-PF did during the elections, their political survival in Zambia seems uncertain.

Furthermore, the documentary, featuring interviews with promoters of lawlessness and those responsible for citizens’ deaths, reflects inadequate research by the journalist.

This letter focuses on the recent manufactured documentary inciting neighboring countries to rise against Zambia. Mr. President, you led the delegation that featured in the video for the interviews. The question is, what role did you play in encouraging this? Was this a pre-calculated event that you and your entourage took advantage of the scenario?

Mr. President, several times I have reminded you of the importance of being grateful. I will not beat around the bush, sir. As a Zambian citizen, you let down this nation during your tenure. You allowed thuggery and criminality, and your government killed innocent citizens, despite my repeated appeals to you, which you ignored.

One critical issue that directly explains how you embraced wrongdoing and why I take the documentary inciting neighboring countries to rise against Zambia and its government seriously is the case of Lawrence Banda’s murderer. This case is unique because the murderer of Lawrence Banda, a citizen you were obligated to protect as a head of state, was protected by your government until you lost power. Meaning, if you were in power to date, Zambians wouldn’t have known who murdered Lawrence Banda. And Shebby Chilekwa would have continued cutting your hair and even killing more opponents of your government.

This is why I am demanding, on my behalf and of other concerned citizens, that you tell us the role you played in the documentary since you were a senior man in the delegation to Zimbabwe. You went too far with your delegation sir. Zambia has never had a war, and the desperation of you and your team to return to power could cost us as a nation.

If Zimbabwe feels like they are doing well, let them be. Why should you and your entourage be their spokesperson? President Mnangagwa won the elections by whatever means, who cares? But instead of you leading a delegation to represent us Zambians, you went to manufacture a documentary to incite divisions with our neighbors. You can distance yourself from this, but for anyone judging you on moral principles, you are very guilty of being part and parcel of this mischievous action.

Like I told you before when you were in power, learn to listen to genuine advice, sir. Most people around you led you into a ditch in 2021, and you lost lamentably. What can they offer you today that will make you believe and trust them? In case you have forgotten, you offended majority citizens thus they voted you out. The only way you can cool down our hearts is being a responsible former head of state. Help your brother Hakainde Hichilema in maintaining peace and order in the country and not vice versa, because the end results will have no winner and loser.

I will repeat this: if President Hakainde Hichilema could behave like the PF did under your leadership, you people cannot be moving up and down like this. But even when some of us wanted him to clamp down on all those who exploited and abused our nation, he has taken a different approach, which you, President Edgar Lungu, have failed to appreciate. If people are relying on you, thinking that you are being smart, they are blatantly lying to you, sir. Behave like a former president and someone who committed crimes and is willing to say sorry to the Zambian people you let down.

Yours sincerely,

THE UPND AND HAKAINDE HICHILEMA MUST FALL….we are just waiting for 2026- PF SG NAKACINDA

THE UPND AND HAKAINDE HICHILEMA MUST FALL- PF SG NAKACINDA

….we are just waiting for 2026

Lusaka………Wednesday, SEPTEMBER 20, 2023 [SMART EAGLES].

Newly Appointed Patriotic Front Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda says President Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND must fall in 2026 citing failure to Govern the Country.

Hon Nakacinda said the Zambian people have placed a demand on the PF to unseat the current regime in 2026 because the UPND is a failed project.

He said this will call for collective work among PF Members in order to redeem the citizens from what he termed as Bad Governance.

Hon Nakacinda was speaking when he delivered his maiden speech as PF Secretary General.

He said he will never respond to those who criticise him as doing so is lowering oneself to petty politics .

Hon Nakacinda has since promised to execute his work firmly but in a fair manner.

“What we are involved in is not child’s play this is serious business. We will answer those that are in doubt, not by engaging them but by our works. With this support, we owe you hard work and victory in 2026. I can only promise you that our enemy that is known must fall. The UPND and Hakainde Hichilema must fall. We will allow divergent views in our party, we have a task to win in 2026,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hon Nakacinda has called for unity among members of the PF.

He said number one issue is to ensure that discipline is maintained in the party.

He has however reminded the UPND that the PF’s discipline must not be taken for granted.

Hon Nakacinda has also responded to those saying that he was from MMD and should not be SG.

“There are people arguing that Nakacinda is from MMD, you have missed the point. Those who want to criticise us because of our journey in MMD. You have missed the point. When you say you are from MMD, you are just exposing the fact that we have credentials, we are coming from somewhere and we are going somewhere….,” he said.

With the Alebwelelapo vibe rocking the country , the PF SG has clarified that the phrase does not mean an individual but the party bouncing back as per the wish of the Zambian people.

“Some of the people are saying Nakacinda is talking about Alebwelelapo agenda, nibena Zambia abalelanda, Alebwelelapo is not an individual but Patriotic Front,” he said.

Hon Nakacinda has also weighed in on desperate attempts to intimidate the opposition leaders who gave an interview to a Zimbabwean Journalist.

“when in opposition, President HH went round the country, talking about the Government even in other countries. But for us, we just talk to a journalist from Zimbabwe, they are now becoming agitated…….Just come to the political arena we do a level playing field….,” he said.

Nakacinda Expresses Doubt on HH and UPND’s Ability to Improve Zambia’s Economy

Raphael Mangani Nakacinda Expresses Doubt on HH and UPND’s Ability to Improve Zambia’s Economy

Lusaka……….at Hot fm……..21st September 2023

The New Secretary General of the Patriotic Front Party Honourable Raphael Mangani Nakacinda, a prominent Zambian politician and former spokesperson for the Patriotic Front (PF), has voiced his skepticism about the economic prospects of Zambia under the leadership of Hakainde Hichilema (HH) and the United Party for National Development (UPND) government.

Nakacinda, known for his political insights and experience, has raised concerns about the new government’s ability to navigate the economic challenges facing Zambia.

The Transition of Power in August 2021, Zambia witnessed a transition of power. This change in leadership was seen by many as a new dawn for Zambia, with hopes of economic recovery and prosperity.

However, MCC Raphael Mangani Nakacinda has been cautious in his optimism. He argues that the challenges Zambians are facing right now are because HH is nothing but a business man

Honourable Nakacinda asserts that while the UPND government has promised ambitious economic reforms, there is a need for fiscal responsibility to ensure sustainable development. He is concerned that uncontrolled spending could lead to increased debt levels.

Promising job creation was a central theme of HH’s campaign yet 2 years down the line nothing seems to work for the UPND government .Mr Nakacinda believes that this is a complex task, and the government must provide a clear strategy for achieving it.

Nakacinda emphasizes the importance of creating a conducive environment for both local and foreign investments. He is concerned that political instability or policy uncertainty could deter potential investors.

Nakacinda believes that it is essential for economic growth to benefit all Zambians, not just a select few. He hopes to see policies that address income inequality and poverty reduction.

MCC Raphael Mangani Nakacinda’s skepticism about the ability of HH and the UPND government to improve Zambia’s economy reflects the complexity of the challenges facing the country. It is essential for the government to address these concerns and implement effective economic policies to deliver on its promises of prosperity and progress. As Zambia enters this new chapter in its history, it remains to be seen how these challenges will be met.

THE FALL OF PAUL POGBA

0

THE FALL OF PAUL POGBA

It was clear then that his return to Manchester United was not going to be a top shining as he was at Juventus and his country France during the 2018 world cup. Pogba had start to stagnate coupled with injuries, a persistent ankle injury in 2019 to 2020, followed by an hamstring problem the following year in 2021. His return to Juventus in 2022 was followed by a knee surgery and a series of muscular problems. Since the summer of 2019, Pogba has started only 51 league games.

But that wasn’t even the biggest issue. In March of 2022, a month before he played his final game for United, he was allegedly kidnapped near Paris by masked men bearing M16 assault rifles demanded thirteen million which he tried to pay only for his bank to block the payment . Four days earlier, Pogba was the victim of a burglary that occurred while his two young children were in the house.

Later that summer, Pogba’s older brother Mathias had released a video claiming that Paul has visited a “muslim holy man” a west African holy man called Ibrahim who charged him one hundered pounds per hour in order to place a curse on Kylian Mbappé.

Pogba later acknowledged he had consulted a marabout, but only for help with his continual injuries.

The recent testing posting of the prohibited drug could land Pogba into four year ban , there are many assertions that people are now giving , given that they player is over 30 and has struggled for match fitness quit a lot, this could be the end of a phenomenal football career of the French man.

He now awaits the B-sample results, despite that he still has various avenues of appeal open and that he is black with ambitions to one day win the ballon D’or.

I know I sound racist when I recite the fact that Pogba’s being black would further worsen his recent positive testing to testosterone.

Like he told Al-Jezeera “Football is very beautiful, but it’s cruel,” Pogba said. “People can forget you. You can do something great the next day, you’re nobody.” The possibility of his career coming to an end is more likely than not.

Paul Pogba admitted to Juventus that he took some nutritional supplements not knowing they contained testosterone that led to his positive drug test and provisional four-year ban, a source told ESPN.

The France midfielder is waiting for the result of his B sample, which should come before the end of the week, but it is expected to be positive.

A source told ESPN that the food supplements were prescribed to him by one of his friends who is a doctor in Miami, the particular food supplements are obtainable in the U.S. but not Italy.

Pogba, 30, told Juventus he did not know there was testosterone in the supplements he consumed but recognized his mistake, a source told ESPN, and that he regrets not having informed his club about purchasing the product and not asking for permission from club doctors to take it.

We have to wait for the second results to confirm if Paul Pogba is guilty or not. Whatever the result and hopefully the full truth will be reviewed as the decline of one who once was a marvel to watch on football pitches, the end of his career is much visible in his tunnel of his career than is not seen.

Whether it is a fact or someone is behind Paul Pogba’s unfortunate circumstances that have befallen him, there is surely more than meets a mere eye to his fall.

After my mistake, Man United lost control of the Bayern game- Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana

0

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana said he had let his teammates down after a howler set the tone for a 4-3 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

A third consecutive defeat ramps up the pressure on United manager Erik ten Hag and two late goals from Casemiro masked the gulf in class between the sides at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

However, United had started brightly until Leroy Sane’s strike slipped through Onana’s grasp on 28 minutes.

“After my mistake we lost control of the game. It’s a difficult situation for us, for me especially because I’m the one who let the team down,” Onana told TNT Sports.

The Cameroonian starred for Inter Milan on their run to last season’s Champions League final, but has struggled in the early weeks of his United career since joining in a £47 million ($58 million) move.

The Red Devils have now conceded three or more goals in three consecutive games for the first time since 1978.

“My start in Manchester is not so good, it’s not how I want (to play),” added Onana.

“Today is one of my worst games and it is difficult because we have big ambition, we want to win everything – it was a big opportunity for us to bounce back after the situation we are facing.

“It’s a tough time. We have to be together and learn from our mistakes because it’s the only thing to do.”

United have now lost four of their opening six games of the season for the first time in 37 years.

Downward curve

Ten Hag earned plenty of plaudits for his first season in charge as he led United back into the Champions League and ended a six-year trophy drought by lifting the League Cup.

But his side’s downward curve dates back to the latter part of last season. Since a historic 7-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool in March, United have lost eight of their last 12 games away from home in all competitions.

Ten Hag called for character from his side to bounce back from being outplayed on home soil by Brighton 3-1 at the weekend.

Instead, the former Ajax boss will be concerned at how quickly his side crumbled after Onana’s blunder and twice conceded within seconds of getting back into the game.

Serge Gnabry quickly doubled Bayern’s advantage after Jamal Musiala burst through the United defence with ease.

Rasmus Hojlund’s first goal for the club was the big positive of the night for Ten Hag’s men.

But Harry Kane had restored Bayern’s two-goal cushion within five minutes from the penalty spot after Cristian Eriksen was harshly penalised for handball.

Bayern should have then ran up a far more convincing scoreline as they twice hit the woodwork and eased up by bringing off Kane, Sane, Gnabry and Musiala.

Casemiro’s first goal could have provoked a nervy finale had Mathys Tel not been given space to crash in Bayern’s fourth within three minutes.

The Brazilian then headed in his second with virtually the last action of the match.

“When you score three goals at Bayern then you have to at least take a point,” said Ten Hag.

But he was keen to point to a collective failure rather than pointing the blame at Onana.

“If you see the first 25 minutes you have to score, but if not stay in the game. Don’t allow the opponent to score goals like we did. It’s not only about one mistake.”

Chamisa accused of giving Zimbabweans false hope

Critics of Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), have accused him of nurturing false optimism among Zimbabweans. This critique comes in response to a series of Chamisa’s posts on X, in which he shares messages of hope along with a Bible verse and the hashtag #GodIsInIt.

Linda Masarira, the President of Labour Economists and African Democrats, as well as other Zimbabweans on X, swiftly reacted to Chamisa’s posts, arguing that he was failing to instill confidence in the electorate that had voted for him.

In one of his posts on X, Chamisa stated, “Fellow Citizens; Trust this #Godisinit I believe in. Let them not mock you. He has never let me down before. He will surely visit Zimbabwe. He will show Himself mighty and strong. You will love it. He is always on time. Ignore these manly and sham sideshows. Don’t say I didn’t tell you! Be happy Zimbabwe! Isaiah 33:22 #OnePeople.”

In response, Masarira criticized Chamisa, suggesting that he should leave politics and consider opening a church instead. She questioned, “Is this not excessive, my brother? People are waiting for leadership from you, and you continue to offer them false hope. Someday, perhaps, the God you always hashtag will respond. In the meantime, provide those who voted for you with confidence, not Bible verses. If you have failed, think about starting a church. You would make a great pastor. You have the qualities of a true shepherd. Sometimes, we misinterpret God’s message. Based on your stance, I am entirely convinced that you were called to preach the word of God, not to be a political leader. May the good Lord open your eyes and guide you to your true calling.”

It’s worth noting that Chamisa secured second place with 44% of the vote in the elections, while President Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared the winner with 52.6% of the vote. This marks the second time Chamisa has contested and lost to Mnangagwa, with his previous challenge in 2018 ending in a loss at the Constitutional Court. This year, he has demanded a fresh election.

Other users on X did not hesitate to share their opinions, emphasizing the need for a strong and decisive opposition. One user, Seni Makaka, commented, “It’s time to mute you, Mr. President, for the sake of our mental health.” Brian Muyambo added, “Honestly, you are the obstacle. Your unfounded false confidence won’t lead us anywhere, to be frank.”

Chamisa has faced criticism for his “strategic ambiguity” and his reluctance to disclose his strategy for seizing power from Zanu-PF.

Mzembi mocks Zanu PF’s “military assisted” electoral win, dismisses Mnangagwa’s cabinet as poor attempt at regeneration

EXILED former Cabinet Minister Walter Mzembi has mocked Zanu PF’s electoral triumph and described President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s appointment of his family and friends into Cabinet as a poor attempt at regenerating the ruling party’s waning fortunes.

Mzembi, who has been in South Africa since a 2017 coup that toppled late President Robert Mugabe, questioned how Zanu PF having the support of Zimbabwe’s military and influence of already being in power had lost 103 of the country’s 210 constituencies.

The 103 were won by Nelson Chamisa’s year-old Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Zanu PF’s main challenger at Zimbabwe’s August 23 polls.

Chamisa managed 44% of the vote against Mnangagwa’s 52.6%.

He maintains he was rigged and continues to court regional and international support for a fresh plebiscite.

Posting on X, Mzembi blamed Mnangagwa’s failure to regenerate the revolutionary party for the loss.

“A 59-year-old revolutionary movement armed with party-state conflation, power of incumbency, is military assisted, loses 103 seats to a one-year-old!” said Mzembi.

“Then you say you are still strong. That is a lie, you are a story of the past because you refused regeneration.”

Despite a number of young Turks on Zanu PF’s list of legislators, the executive has maintained an aged leadership headed by 81-year-old Mnangagwa, his deputy and returnee Kembo Mohadi at 73 years and Constantino Chiwenga at a modest 67.

Mzembi, a one-time favourite in Mugabe’s Cabinet had been rooting for the return of long-time ally Saviour Kasukuwere, who like him has been in exile.

Both fled Zimbabwe at the height of Mnangagwa’s coup alongside other Ministers such as Jonathan Moyo who had been in Zanu PF’s losing Generation 40 (G40) faction when rival Lacoste toppled Mugabe.

His support for Kasukuwere had been based on regeneration, a factor he said was not evident in Mnangagwa’s ‘new’ Cabinet announced a week ago.

Mnangagwa appointed his son and nephew, some relatives and friends into Zimbabwe’s cabinet, irking various sections of Zimbabwe’s society and some of his colleagues within Zanu PF who felt he could have done better.

“Now you bring your children and you think they resemble regeneration – NADA (no)!” added Mzembi.

Hichilema And UPND Are In Denial That They Have Messed Up- Msoni

HICHILEMA AND UPND ARE IN DENIAL THAT THEY HAVE MESSED UP
…Ministers living in fools paradise too

By Fox Reporter
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND are living in denial over the prevailing hard conditions they have subjected the people of Zambia to, All Peoples Congress (APC) leader Nasson Msoni has said.

Msoni says it is recklessness of the UPND na President Hichilema in particular to fail to address the food crisis the country is facing.

“A government whose leaders are in denial of the current prevailing food crisis and the high cost of living in the country is unfit for purpose,” he said.

Msoni wondered how a sane leadership would conveniently and confidently state that the current hardship the people of Zambia are going through is better than what they faced under the PF.

Charles Milupi, a minister in the UPND government is quoted as having said that no one in his right mind would say things are worse than they were in the PF.

However, Msoni has questioned why the UPND and President Hichilema are still living in denial that they have messed up.

“It is difficult to understand how any sane leader can confidently assert that the current high cost of living under the UPND administration is better than under the previous regime.

This kind of reasoning and thinking is tantamount to living in a fools paradise. Truth be told the reality on the ground is ugly and heartbreaking. The ongoing food crisis and high cost of living requires a leadership that is able to think outside the box in order to address the deepening food crisis and the skyrocketing cost of living in the country,” he said.

“A statement that has been attributed to the infrastructure Minister Mr Charles Milupi is shocking and depressing and portrays a government which is redundant and completely out of touch with the reality obtaining in the country. It is always essential for political leaders to be sensitive when issuing political statements. In a nutshell such poorly crafted redundant political messages are extremely provocative to the suffering majority citizens,” said Msoni.

High Cost Of Living Is Hurting, It’s A Time Bomb- Fred M’membe

HIGH COST OF LIVING IS HURTING, IT’S A TIME BOMB

Today, I want to share my deepest thoughts and feelings about the sad reality of the hunger, poverty and despair that is prevailing in our homeland, among our people currently.

I want to candidly and fairly convey my true feelings and experiences about the situation we are faced with, not as a politician but as a leader and parent, who is also raising a family in the midst of the high cost of living we are experiencing as a nation.

Certainly, the rising cost of living is hurting and there don’t seem to be quick political fixes our people were promised. No one today is saying “Bally will fix it” – not even Bally himself. This is worrying.

With the rising cost of living, our people are feeling the pressure financially, psychologically and otherwise. Words fail me to best describe the level of grief, sadness, anger and hunger I have come into contact with during my visits to several and different households and communities across the country – both in urban centers like Lusaka and the Copperbelt, and rural areas like Chinsali, where I am a traditional leader.

In my trips to these communities, the sadness, brokenness and desperation, which the rise in cost of living has brought to our people is heartbreaking and painful. We have witnessed unprecedented levels of hunger, poverty and despair amongst citizens, which is difficult to comprehend and later on articulate in a way that best reflects what is currently happening in our nation.

It is a fact that the rising cost of living is more than an economic squeeze: it is a public health emergency, potentially on a par with the pandemic. Not being able to afford the essentials, such as food, rent, electricity or transport, has wide-ranging negative impacts on mental and physical health and well-being.

Families are in distress. Basic daily feeding has become a very big challenge. Our mothers, our wives, our aunties, our sisters are failing to sleep. Blood pressures are rising exponentially with the rise in the cost of living. Far too many people in the country today can barely afford a meal or two in a day. We have seen how some households have devised a system to ensure that at least everybody eats something to keep them going. And this system involves members of the household to alternate between meals; where one group eats lunch and leaves dinner for the other group that skipped lunch to eat as well.

This may sound weird and baffling but that is the reality. It’s happening in many households. Families are stressed and are breaking as providers battle to deal with the mental trauma of losing a livelihood and the inability to cope with the situation and fend for their families. Definitely, there is a silent but tragic story unfolding in our country today and politicians should urgently protect the most vulnerable, those in distress.

These problems cannot be left to our pastors, reverends, priests and other religious leaders when even the Sunday church offerings are declining because congregants have nothing or have very little to put in the basket. This is the first experience of such sharp and sustained cost of living increases since the 1980s. But unions were stronger and pay agreements were very different then.

While prices are increasing everyday our earning power has been stuck in a rut. The cost of living has increased steadily and relentlessly over the past two years. But our political system means politicians’ promises to tackle it have been largely futile.

It will get worse. This gnaws away at a person’s dignity.

An experience typically reserved for the poor is now afflicting middle classes and they aren’t happy. It is spilling over to our politics and there’s panic in the political leadership of our country. They are scared about how the people will react to all this. They don’t want anyone to talk about it – hence the attempt to silence key opposition leaders and critics. They are scared that talking about these issues may spark protests, hence the attempt to silence, intimidate the opposition with charges of treason, espionage and so on and so forth.

But this will not work. They can silence a few timid politicians, hire some spineless, hungry and greed opposition politicians to speak for them, but it won’t help them much. They can’t silence the hungry masses of our people because if there’s no one to speak for them – because their authentic representatives have been silenced – they will eventually start to directly speak for themselves. And their language will be very clear to be ignored!

This uncontrolled daily increase in the cost of living is a time bomb! Therefore, arresting us on trumped up treason or espionage charges won’t do – it will be an exercise in futility which is bound to backfire. And without us the explosion of this time bomb may be uncontrollable.

We socialists are patriots. With or without us we would like to see Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his league succeed in addressing these very distressing challenges facing our people and our homeland. We don’t want to defeat them on the back of national failure. There will be enough reasons to seek their removal on August 13, 2026. Baleya!

Statement By Apnac On The Judiciary To Priotise Corruption Cases In The Proposed Live Broadcast Of Court Cases- Miles Sampa

STATEMENT BY APNAC ON THE JUDICIARY TO PRIOTISE CORRUPTION CASES IN THE PROPOSED LIVE BROADCAST OF COURT CASES

21.09.2023

African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC) Zambia Chapter welcomes the announcement made by Chief Justice Mumba Malila that the judiciary is considering broadcasting live selected court cases that are of public interest.

We urge the judiciary to prioritize corruption cases which are of great interest to the public.

For a long time now Zambians have felt robbed when alot of corruption cases have not gone according to their expectations. Some have just gone mute or maybe adjourned indefinite. Broadcasting corruption cases live will therefore help the public to have instant first hand information as the cases unfold in court. We trust transparency is one of the core pillars in fighting corruption.

As APNAC Zambia Chapter we are therefore very delighted on the Chief Justice’s statement and fully support the idea of live broadcast for crime cases and more so on corruption and money laundering as prosecuted by the ACC and DEC.

It will definitely help the public to understand better how such cases are handled and why delays in concluding them when it happens. The public will then have enhanced continue in our judiciary when dealing with such cases.

APNAC Zambia is a non partisan network of Parliamentarians that addresses issues of corruption and promotes good governance. We are keen to see a number of pending corruption cases get to judgement stage and those found guilty jailed to deter others from committing similar crimes.

This more so where it involves public officers or politicians be it from the past or current government. Zambia’s corruption conviction rate for politicians remains one of the poorest in the world. Some cases even take as long as 5 years just to convict corrupt politicians and civil servants. There is need to improve on this score if the nation has to rid itself of corruption especially involving government and council coffers.

Africa is poor mostly because of some politicians that when people entrust them to manage public funds, they end up stealing it for themselves instead of spreading it to the poor through development projects.

The live court broadcasts should therefore priotise and focus more on courtrooms handling cases of politicians charged with corruption so that current and future ministers or civil servants are deterred from following similar acts.

Allow PF To Mobilise If You Are Not Scared, Davis Mwila Challenges Hakainde Hichilema

ALLOW PF TO MOBILISE IF YOU ARE NOT SCARED, DAVIS MWILA CHALLENGES HAKAINDE HICHILEMA

By Fox Reporter
IF President Hakainde Hichilema thinks he is still popular, let him allow the PF to go to Mandevu, Matero, Kanyama, Kabwata and Munali Constituencies just like he did and see what the people in Lusaka will do, former PF secretary general Davis Mwila has advised.

Speaking at party secretariat where the party’s Lusaka Province leadership called for a meeting to welcome the new leaders, Mwila urged President Hichilema to be magnanimous and allow the PF to hold meetings in Lusaka and see if he is still popular.

Mwila said the only message the PF will take to the people is about the high cost of mealie meal and fuel.

“Ndefwaya President Hichilema is he is not scared of the PF to allow us hold meetings and pantu ninshi kuli ifyo baletina. Tuchiteni allow tuleya tu chite compete filya mwacitile imwe, mulya mwine mwapitile mumandevu, mumatero naifwe emotuyepita tuleyaeba abantu ati akabunga nakafika K300,” he said.

And Mwila says he is delighted by the Matero Constituency leadership to petition for the expulsion of their member of parliament Miles Sampa for gross insubordination.

He assure the Matero leadership that he will support the petition to have Sanmpa ezpiled as he has exhibited high levels of misconduct.

“Icabubili, natemwasana ba chairman abakumatero mwaleta petition, ine nga senior member of the Central Committee ndemichita assure that kayavota ukutila ba Miles Sampa tubatafye. Tulemumina Miles,” he said.

Mwila has also questioned those against the appointment of Raphael Nakachinda as party secretary general, saying the PF was rebranding and those who want to support the rebranding should exhibit high levels of loyalty.

“Icakulekelesha, ifwe lintu twalushile ama election, bambi baliya lala. Balilala, bambi bali active ukulabomba nokubombesha ukutila icipani epocili, balelala namuma cells elo imwe namwikala, one of the is Raphael Nakachiinda naba Mwamba (Emmanuel) aba bantu they have been arrested so many times for the only reason of speaking for the party and standing firm and loyal to the party. Ala abaume banono, nga balala muma cells balebombela icipani, so nomba ngababacita appoint imwe kuti mwakana shani? Elo ici icisela icakweba ati true green must come to an end membership of the poart is equal even to those that come today, their membership is equal. For some of us who started the part with Mr. Sata if we shall say we are true green, the party will die. Elo umunobe nga bamucita appoint jealousy taifwaika, jelousy twiba kwati nib a UPND abakweba ati Edgar Chagwa Lungu nje ku Church bamukanina, aleya ku South Africa bamukanina, aleya ku Korea bamukanina, jelousy mu PF tatulefwaya, we are rebranding the party, so we are bringing in new leadership. And ifwe will be there supporting them, but I want to tell you that rebranding is to do what you have not done, that is why abantu bambi cant accept. Accept these appointments that is loyalty, me as former SG have handed over iwe uletalika, niwebonani iwe? Niwebo nani iwe, niwebomwana nani iwe?” he said.

“I OWE YOU HARD WORK , DISCIPLINE, SACRIFICE AND AN OUTRIGHT WIN FOR PF IN 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS ,” NAKACINDA

…as he describes his appointment as a call to duty, not luxury…

Smart Eagles/ Wed Sept 20, 2023

Former Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, Hon. Raphael Mangani Nakacinda has assumed the role of Secretary General of the biggest opposition political party in the nation, the Patriotic Front.

Born on the 18th of June, 1979, 44 year old Nakacinda, whose political career spans over two decades, will undoubtedly bridge the gap between the old members and the youth in the party.

Hon. Nakacinda has emphasised that his appointment is not a luxury trip but a call to duty, which he said he accepted with both hands and with much gratitude and humility.

And Hon. Nakacinda has assured the rank and file of the party that he will ensure the PF retains its lost political fortunes in time for a landslide win in 2026 .

He said PF and 6th President , His Excellency Dr. Edgar Lungu had left an indelible mark on the development landscape of the nation and that the election loss of 2021 was due to factors such as indiscipline, hooliganism, and violence among some sections of the membership.

Hon. Nakacinda said he would work round the clock to ensure such vices are a thing of the past.

Nakacinda stated that in as much as he would not entertain misconduct in the party , he would definitely lead the members with love and care.

He only asked that members not sow seeds of discord against one another because he would not entertain disunity and bickering.

He said he would respect divergent views from party members because he is not interested in being an SG for yes bwanas as those might derail the 2026 agenda of a PF win.

Hon. Nakacinda said this at the PF Secretariat this morning when the Party structures in Lusaka officially welcomed him into his new role as party CEO.

He has revealed that party mobilisation programs will be rolled out countrywide in no time at all.

THE OPPOSITION ARE A LET DOWN DON’T SAY UPND IS GOING TO USE VAR IN THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS …***

By Stembridge Sikalundu

In Zambia politicians in the opposition can say anything as long as they think someone is listening somewhere .There has been a lot of time wasting by the opposition without a political roadmap to oppose president HAKAINDE HICHILEMA intellectually , politics of just talking without strategic planning on how to understand what the opposition must do to create checks and balances is always deficient of substance and irreelevant in zambia after PF was removed from office , because opposition political parties have just been followers who were promised by PF leaders that Mr HAKAINDE HICHILEMA was not going to be president of Zambia . The same PF motives have continued to haunt the opposition and those forming new political
parties have fallen prey .

It is very clear now that PF in opposition under MCS mhscriep knew how the party organised itself in opposition untill it formed govt , and if it was going to be MCS in 2021 Mr HAKAINDE HICHILEMA was still going to wait , but because the boat had no ship captain today PF is in opposition with majority leaders that were not there with the party when it was in opposition before , they don’t have the AGENDA in opposition to set the ball rolling in order to challenge the UPND govt , their political game has remained in their own political gallery , they still believe in what they knew , but that did not make them win elections and they are still thinking of a similar message will change the minds of people when they are in opposition , it is all about leadership missing and not filling up positions as the case is in PF today .

It is sad to see some opposition leaders fuel tensions with ZIMBABWE , we don’t want war in Zambia against any nation , what we want is economic emancipation of our country , that will secure many generations after us , if the opposition hate president HAKAINDE HICHILEMA with passion that should not include wishes of seeing this country disturbilised or in flames , zambia is a mother to all of us and we should live to enjoy and love our country as our own , some are talking about a coup plot which is not there just because Mr HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is president of this country , why should people in the opposition fight the presidency using external means , these are desperate manuevers that are associated with hate and deficient of putting the country first and above such hateful intentions . Let’s imagine those calling themselves opposition leaders who want to form govt some day , but are in the frontier of destroying international relations of our great country because Mr HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is president today , what kind of irresponsibility culture is this which is associated to opposition Political leaderships of this country’ s multiparty system ?.

There are a number of things which we must be very particular about , this country has been in the hands of saboteurs , people that have relied on the resources of the country for personal wealth creation , it is very clear that without political power over this country ,their wealth can not be protected , their freedoms to abuse the people of zambia is withdrawn , therefore having the personality of Mr HAKAINDE HICHILEMA in the office of the presidency has created a crack in the cartels that have political inclination to ride over the affairs of the country .

Zambia is a democratic country and electing leaders is done using a fundamental process where any eligible Zambian exercises the franchise to elect their own leaders . If the opposition have failed to reach the bar of the new leadership excellence that is bold and methodical , may be it is time to watch and learn how a country is governed because with time may be another leader can emerge with inspirations gathered from the level of president HAKAINDE HICHILEMA . Another election coming will be danced by the same song and change will take a long time if the opposition remain in the same low waters . God bless mother Zambia .

PREPARE FOR BY-ELECTION IN MATERO

Looming Matero By Elections

By Nkonkomalimba Kapumpe

Political parties have started searching for their candidates for Matero MP. This is after signs of irreconcilable differences between the current MP Miles Sampa and PF. With the show down expected this Friday at the PF Secretariat. Sampa is scheduled to have Pressing briefing on friday at the PF Secretariat, this time they will be waiting for him. This is all heading to a by elections or long court process.

Bein a political animal, am hoping for a by elections. It will be an uphill battle for UPND considering Matero is a PF stronghold and their failure to explain the high cost of living. For PF, the major challenge will be resources and unity; considering they are out of Government and now broke because of court issues.Unfortunately the best option is ECL helping them return the seat by providing resources and structure. If they can’t have those two they will fail to retain seat.

Then we will have Socialist party trying to sneak in, for them to stand a good chance they will have to pick a very popular candidate to add to their brand, they seem to have the resources. They filled a candidate in the last general elections and will build from them.

Then we have EFF, they must fill in a candidate at all cost. Preferably a very young person. They have the structure but need resources. Fortunately for party full of young people, they must find another ways to excite the masses with limited resources . It can be done.

Then will have UNIP that managed to contest in the last election. They will probably continue with the same candidate so that they build on. Their major challenge is weak leadership that is not willing to fight for anything.

We will discuss the candidates or personalities later including independents. But whosoever will win Matero will risk losing the seat in 2026 because of the economy . The biggest winners will be EFF and Socialists even if they don’t take the seats. The perception is that both UPND and PF are losing popularity, so any voters gotten from PF and UPND is a plus for the two for 2026.

Zambia’s Ex-President : Rights and Status Question

0

By Isaac Mwanza

The global human rights community is increasingly observing the imposition of restrictions on former President Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu by the new administration in the Republic of Zambia.

This situation calls for reflection and raises concerns, particularly in light of President Hakainde Hichilema’s stated commitment to building a human rights legacy.

These actions have garnered unfavourable attention and raised concerns about President Hichilema’s administration. It’s important to note that recent actions taken against Mr. Lungu are not isolated incidents but seem to reflect a broader trend.

The sequence of events began with an unsuccessful attempt by some supporters of the UPND in Eastern Province to prevent the former President from attending a traditional ceremony.

Subsequently, more formal and organized measures have been employed, involving government institutions and offices.

In a span of just two weeks, former President Lungu has faced several restrictions on his rights.

He was initially denied the right to travel to South Africa for medical treatment, followed by an incident in Ndola where he was prevented from assembling for a church service to which he had been invited.

Most recently, he was ejected from a plane and prevented from traveling to South Korea to attend a World Peace Conference.

The government’s explanation for these restrictions, as conveyed by the Chief Government Spokesperson, was notably flimsy and playful.

It was stated that President Lungu did not obtain the necessary permission from the Cabinet to travel abroad.

If it was comrade Thabo Kwana who made these excuses, it would be understood. However, the implications of these actions go beyond mere administrative procedures.

What is particularly concerning is that, in the history of Zambia, this is the first time that a former Head of State has had his constitutional rights restricted in such a manner.

It raises questions about whether the government is implying that a former Head of State no longer possesses inherent rights. Such a precedent could have far-reaching implications for the treatment of former Presidents in the future.

In this context, it is essential to turn to the Constitution of Zambia for guidance. Article 22 of the Constitution specifically safeguards the rights of all citizens to travel freely. It expressly states:

“22. (1) Subject to the other provisions of this Article and except in accordance with any other written law, no citizen shall be deprived of his freedom of movement, and for the purposes of this Article, freedom of movement means –
(a) the right to move freely throughout Zambia;
(b) the right to reside in any part of Zambia; and
(c) the right to leave Zambia and to return to Zambia.”

This constitutional provision underscores the fundamental right of all Zambian citizens to move freely within the country, to reside in any part of Zambia, and crucially, the right to leave Zambia and return without unjustified hindrance.

The recent restrictions placed on former President Lungu’s ability to travel and assemble raise important questions about whether they comply with the Constitution’s criteria for reasonable limitations.

The government’s assertion that Cabinet permission was necessary for the former President to travel abroad may require further interrogation but it may change nothing for now.

The only reasonable explanation for the State’s ability to impose travel restrictions on the former President is if such restrictions are genuinely necessary in the interests of defence, public safety, public order, public morality, public health, or for regulating land and property use in Zambia.

Moreover, any denial of the right to travel on these grounds should be demonstrably justifiable within the framework of a democratic society. This is precisely why the explanations provided by the Chief Government Spokesperson is derisory.

In the event that the decision to restrict the former President’s rights were to be legally challenged in an impartial court of law, a fair-minded judge would likely find such actions deserving of censure.

However, it is the view of this author that pursuing such a legal challenge may not yield fruitful results. The predictability of our court system and the way decisions are typically rendered make it seem like a potentially futile endeavour.

Another significant matter to be addressed in this article pertains to the ongoing debate concerning the political status of former President Lungu.

It is noteworthy that President Lungu formally communicated his intention to retire from active politics to his party. Subsequently, he also informed the Cabinet of this decision.

It is crucial to examine President Lungu’s notices to both the Party and the Cabinet holistically.

The complexity arises from the fact that this retirement notice is not immediate; rather, it is conditional on President Lungu handing over power to the next party President of the Patriotic Front, to be elected at the upcoming convention.

This effectively places President Lungu in a situation where he is simultaneously involved in politics and transitioning into retirement from active political engagement.

According to the Benefits of the Former Presidents’ Act, retirement from active politics entails refraining from holding elective or appointive positions within a political party or aspiring to do so.

As the current situation stands, this interpretation is affirmed by the PF Party Chairperson for Legal Affairs, Mr. George Chisanga, who also serves as a lawmaker for Lukashya Constituency.

Mr. Chisanga’s perspective holds merit because the notice to the Secretary to Cabinet cannot be viewed independently of the attached conditional letter, in which President Lungu expressed his intent to step down within the party.

In practical terms, this dual role implies that President Lungu remains an active participant in politics as long as he retains his position within the former ruling party, pending the transfer of power to the individual elected at the forthcoming convention, whenever that may occur.

What is evident is that President Lungu’s leadership within the ruling party remains in effect until April 2026, marking five years from his last election as the former ruling party’s President.

The decision as to whether he wishes to be regarded as an active political figure by retaining his position or to make it unequivocally clear that he no longer holds the role of the former ruling party’s President rests entirely with him.

However, in the hypothetical scenario where the former President has indeed retired from active politics, meaning he does not hold or aspire to hold any elective or appointive position within the former ruling party, questions arise regarding his political rights.

Specifically, it raises the question of whether he retains the rights guaranteed by the constitution to affiliate with any political party of his choice, including being an ordinary member of the former ruling party.

The Zambian Constitution, as articulated in Article 21, unequivocally safeguards the former President’s right to association and assembly.

Article 21 makes it clear that no one can be hindered in the exercise of their freedom to assemble freely, associate with others, and, notably, form or belong to any political party, trade union, or other association for the protection of their interests without their consent.

The framers of the Benefits of Former Presidents’ Act did not intend to diminish this constitutional right to remain or join a party of one’s choice as an ordinary member.

Consequently, a former President who retires from active politics, as we see from the United States, continues to enjoy the right to vote for any candidate of their choosing, join any association of their preference, and even participate in election campaigns, albeit not as a candidate for themselves but in support of those running under their party’s ticket.

In summary, the limitations placed on former President Lungu’s travel and his political status require a rational discussion, free from emotional biases that could potentially lead to the infringement of his constitutional rights by the State.

Government must give better reasons for restricting his freedom of movement and we must as a society assess whether such reasons align with the Constitution’s criteria for reasonable justification. Apparently, it appears that they do not.

Additionally, the ambiguous political status of President Lungu has understandably created unease among those currently in authority.

His simultaneous involvement in politics while transitioning into retirement has posed a challenge, causing some in power to question whether he should continue to enjoy fundamental rights like association and assembly.

Given this uncertainty, it is advisable for the former President to carefully reconsider his position.

President Hichilema should handle this matter judiciously to avoid the perception that his administration is leaning towards autocracy.

It remains crucial for him to counsel his government colleagues on the importance of safeguarding the rights of former President Lungu and upholding the principles of the rule of law, regardless of any personal reservations.

Demonstrating tolerance should be a hallmark of President Hichilema’s leadership.Top of Form

Changala Challenges Chief Mpezeni To Tell The Nation What Edgar Lungu Is Doing To Make The Job Of HH Difficult

HICHILEMA LACKS WISDOM – CHANGALA
…as he challenges Paramount Chief Mpezeni to tell the nation what ECL is doing to make the job of HH difficult

By Fox Reporter
HUMAN Rights activist Brebner Changala says President Hakainde Hichilema lacks wisdom and he is a vengeful man to have ascended to that office of presidency whose leadership is aimed at fixing certain individuals.

And Changala has demanded for an explanation from Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni speaking people of Chipata District to tell the nation what former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu has been doing to make the work for President Hakainde Hichilema difficult.

In unsolicited interview, Changala says Zambia has gone back to a time when traditional leaders where paid khaki envelopes to destroy one’s reputation.

“We are back to square one where now chiefs are chasing for brown (Khaki) envelopes and to get those envelopes they have to drag other people’s names in the mud. It is for this reason that now I make certain demands, (Paramount) chief Mpezeni met President Hakainde Hichilema and after maybe sharing a proper meal, Paramount Chief Mpezeni made wild allegations that former president Edgar Lungu is interfering with the leadership of his brother HH and that ECL should give his brother chance to govern, saying him had governed for seven years,” he said.

He demanded that Paramount Chief Mpezeni should now tell the nation what former president Lungu was doing to undermine President Hichilema’s way of governance.

Changala noted with sadness that President Hichilema’s way of doing things despite given the mandate has become below expectations by many Zambians.

He said if anything it was President Hichilema who was provoking the former Head of State by sending police officers to abuse and embarrass him in the last two years.

“Now we all want to know what ECL is doing to interfere with President Hichilema’s government and leadership. If anything, it is HH who is interfering with the private life of ECL, our former president. It is HH who is paranoid with ECL, it is the one who is provoking him for the last two year he has been in power without ECL answering back.

ECL has been going to church and for that it is a problem for HH. ECL went to the Copperbelt for a church service, HH sent a battalion of police officers to block him from attending a church service which he was guest of honor. ECL wanted to go outside the country at his own cost, he (Hichilema) embarrassingly removed him out of the plane,” he said.

Changala observed that what President Hichilema was lacking is wisdom to govern and appreciate the role a former President can play.

“What HH is lacking is wisdom, we have time and again advised him to make a simple phone call to ECL in private and have a conversation with him, it is him who is a Head of State. He is the one who can initiate reconciliation if he wants to, and I want to ask Chief Mpezeni whether he has spoken to ECL when his wife was locked up in the cells, detained for hours like a common criminal, and whether he has spoken to ECL to find out what he is going through under the New Dawn administration rather than going to HH and castigate ECL,” he said.
The outspoken Changala who vehemently supported and campaigned for President Hichilema under the umbrella of OSIDA has urged Paramount Chief Mpezeni to take a leaf from Chiefs Hamusonde and Mukuni who supported and spoke for President Hichilema when he was in the opposition without fear or favour openly.

“He (Mpezeni) must learn from Chief Mukuni and Chief Hamusonde who when HH was facing challenges while in opposition, Chief Hamusonde and Mukuni stood by him and they did it publicly as their son. And they never went to see ECL to plead with HH to let his brother govern like Mpezeni has done. Hamusonde and Mukuni never and never pleaded with their son HH to let former president Lungu govern. But this thing with our Mbuya the Inkhosi Yama Nkhosi trying to find an opportunity to chew is actually bringing our paramount chief into conflict with his subjects.

His subjects want to know what has ECL done to make him stay away and allow his brother to govern? We need clarity on this one and we shall not entertain wild allegations against ECL, Chief Mpezeni should tell the people of Zambia and his subjects in particular what ECL has done in making the price of mealie meal go up in that fashion, Paramount Chief Mpezeni should tell his subjects what ECL has done to make the prices of fertilizers go up, what has ECL done to make the prices of fuel go up in the manner the situation is now.

What has ECL done for the high cost of living to be the way it is now under this regime? Paramount Chief Mpezeni shoul explain to his subjects why the UPND are blaming the previous leadership for what is happening now in the country when this man promised the people of Zambia that he came to fix it. Not to fix the people but to fix what he thought was destroyed and now it has come to pass that actually he meant to fix certain individuals and not what he said was destroyed. Not to fight corruption, not to uplift the livelihood of the people and if anything, HH has abused his mandate. So, Mpezeni must tell us what has ECL been doing to make the job of his brother HH difficult, we need clarity, we don’t want wild statements coming out of our chiefs especially Paramount Chief Mpezeni himself that is misleading and unacceptable,” Changala said.

Changala said Paramount Chief Mpezeni had lost an opportunity to demand to know why President Hichilema was too hostile against his elder brother.

VEEP NALUMANGO SIDELINED- Msoni

VEEP NALUMANGO SIDELINED
…as Msoni says it is difficult to work with President Hakainde Hichilema, doubting whether Nalumango is still running mate

By Fox Reporter
ALL Peoples Congress president Nasson Msoni says Zambians should know that working with President Hakainde Hichilema is the most difficult decision in one’s life.

Commenting on the subsequent preference of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Sternly Kakubo attending international summits instead of the Vice-President, Msoni says Vice-President Mutale Nalumango has been sidelined.

Msoni said Vice-President Nalumango is no longer useful to President Hichilema, no wonder she is never seen representing the country at high level meetings such as the UNGA which is taking place in the New York.

He explained that instead President Hichilema has decided to use more of Foreign Affairs Minister Kakubo to represent him while Nalumango parked at parliament to attend to questions.

“There is clearly a problem. He has a track record of failing to work with his Vice Presidents even at party level. Clearly, she has been sidelined and rendered irrelevant in the process. It is just the constitution keeping Mrs Nalumango in office. She had been shunted offline and rendered redundant,” said Msoni.

Msoni observed that the working relationship between Vice -President Nalumango and President Hichilema in the recent past has become weaker and if it were not the constitutional provision of running mate, he could have fired her.

“With my political instincts informs me that the working relationship between the President and his Vice President is not sound. It is clear that her office is being undermined by the kind delegation that the President is making, where she is never considered to represent the Country at such a high-level meeting. I stand to be corrected, Kakubo has done more trips than the Vice President even to the extent of attending meetings supposed to be attended by the Vice-President. But that is how President Hichilema is. He is a difficult person to work with,” he said.

Msoni notes that with the kind of treatment Vice President Nalumango was being subjected to by President Hichilema, it was clear that she has lost favour and would not be running mate in 2026.

People Are Protesting Because They Are Hungry – Brian Mundubile

PEOPLE ARE PROTESTING BECAUSE THEY ARE HUNGRY – PF

Wednesday, 20 September 2023

LEADER of the Opposition in the National Assembly Brian Mundubile has attributed the recent protests at the University of Zambia and in Mumbwa to the high cost of living.

And Mundubile says he has received a tip that investigative wings had planned to search his residence on Monday night.

On Monday evening, University of Zambia students rioted over the cancelation of UNZASU elections. The students blocked Great East road with drums and stones, burnt tyres and started stoning motor vehicles. During the riot, five shops were broken into and assorted groceries whose value is yet to be established were looted within the University.

And last week in Mumbwa, a rioting mob burnt two people to death after information went round that another person had been killed and their private parts removed.

Commenting on these riots in an interview, Tuesday, Mundubile said UPND should urgently address the hunger situation because people were angry.

“To quote President Hakainde Hichilema’s words when he was in opposition, ‘hunger leads to anger’. So, most of the reactions that you are seeing are as a result of hunger. Basically, people are looking for every opportunity to express themselves in that way, so I think what the UPND must understand now is that there is an urgent need for them to address the hunger situation in the country. You can’t have a situation [where] any little thing that happens, people take to the streets. The UPND government must move to see to it that they address the hunger situation.

The address by the President to Parliament left much to be desired because one actually thought that we lived in a different country. With so much going on, the President did not even spend six minutes on the issue of high cost of living. So, that indeed is a source of worry,” he said.

“We actually thought that after his visits to the compounds, he was going to come in and give hope to the Zambian people after fully understanding what the people were going through. But clearly, I think it was not his priority, had it been his priority, he was going to spend a bit more time, he was going to be a bit more engaging, trying to find solutions to these challenges. But as you could see, he merely glossed over it. So for me, I think that was a red flag to us all that we have a man in State House whose priority does not include addressing the high cost of living”.

And Mundubile said he had received a tip that investigative wings had planned to search his residence on Monday night.

“It is sad to learn that people wanted to visit us in the night, we wondered why in the night? Why not come in the day? As things turned out, nobody came. We received a tip off that people had been assembled to come and conduct a search at my residence. Of course the people who tipped were saying we need to be very careful because the people will come for purposes maybe not searching but planting something to incriminate us. So that was what our worry was about, we really have nothing to hide, but the concern was that people were coming with the aim of coming to plant some incriminating materials,” Mundubile said.

“As you know, the way the UPND works, they have a combined team of cadres and other government institutions. So, they obviously have some police, but in those teams, I am sure you have heard of people being tortured, the people who torture them are actually known cadres. So, that is how they operate normally. For official purposes, obviously there were going to be one or two uniformed people with their IDs but within there, there would be their own operatives who are cadres who have special instructions to make sure that they execute according to their masters”.

He accused President Hakainde Hichilema of trying to persecute opposition leaders.

“The UPND are more desperate than ever now so we expect them to change tricks. The truth of the matter is that things are very difficult now for President Hakainde Hichilema and in order to stay in office, one of the things they intend to do is to try and victimise opposition party leaders with the hope of silencing them. So, we are going to see a lot of strange things happening using state institutions, so it is just the beginning. So, the harassment will come from the fact that I am an opposition member and they do not want to receive any form of criticism. President Hakainde’s democracy is where he should be the only one speaking, when we object, some of the things, he is not comfortable, he would want to get rid of all the opposition voices so that he can govern according to how he wishes,” said Mundubile.

“This is serious, these are all efforts aimed at persecuting opposition political leaders. President Hakainde Hichilema is no longer talking about the rule of law, if you hear the tone in the President now, he would like to resort to all other methods but not the rule of law. If you listen to the UPND cadres, it is all orchestrated”.

MARK SIMUUWE ON MEALIE MEAL PRICE AND THE UPND NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT STRATEGY

MARK SIMUUWE ON MEALIE MEAL PRICE AND THE UPND NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT STRATEGY

By Mark Simuuwe

People have been texting me in the inbox on what the solution is by the UPND Dawn Government to mealie meal prices and my response is :

This is an inherited problem which cannot be instantly addressed because the only key players the UPND found are the private sector.

In addressing the problem, the UPND has decided not to let the private sector players alone but to reintroduce activities in farm blocks . As a step of good faith , K1million was released last year to audit the farm block with focus on government allowing ZNS to be a key participant.

In addition , government decided to continue zero-rating all agricultural equipments and accessories to stimulate growth in the sector .

As a strategic framework, government also decided to purchase 10 milling plants so as to easily address mealie meal prices by selling at cost reflective prices and also meet the growing demand in the region which contributed to skyrocketing prices of mealie meal .

For UPND , export of maize which has been seen as a threat on our people ,should be an old perspective , and the UPND is turning this threat into an opportunity for more production to meet the demand .

Contrary to the private sector where profit maximization is centered on paying workers , , transport cost and cost of production, ZNS will produce Meal meal at affordable price without chocking on how they will pay workers and cost of electricity because the workers are civil servants.

With FRA subsidizing maize in times of crisis , ZNS millers will not manipulate its own government because it is part of government.

This increase in supply will force prices to go down because government will not need stressful negotiations with millers but to play in the market economy using ZNS .

Further , government has decided to find an equity partner for a local investor to set up a fertilizer manufacturing plant at a cost of $138million , which when at full capacity shall produce 300,000 metric tons of Urea and 700,000 tons of D-compound . This will also cut down on the cost of transporting fertilizer from the Asian countries thereby having direct effect on the cost of producing maize .

Lastly , government has deliberately come up with cost reflective maize floor price to encourage businessmen who decided to stop engaging in farming due to losses to revert to farming as a business . Since maize growing has now been given business sense .This will encourage production and excess to even export to other markets thereby creating more jobs in the country .

Government has also signed various market access agreements with UAE, Rwanda , South Africa , DRC and China to secure a ready market for the growing agricultural sector.

This market access is very serious and not a talk show . So far , DRC has advanced our government some considerable United States dollars for mealie meal supply and not maize supply . With ZNS milling , government is well- coordinated to take up the market .

President HH also tapped into the Israel Agro-tech for improved agricultural sector. China has also been brought on board to help in the supply chain as participants by way of buying Zambian products , and producing pesticides.

This is a lasting solution to reducing price of mealie meal in Zambia . It should also be noted that maize crisis has been regional in Southern and East Africa and this forced Kenya to import GMOs . To stabilize this crisis will require extra effort by government and its citizens to participate more in growing maize .

HPCZ EXAM CANCELLED AS PAPER IS LEAKED, NINE MEMBERS OF STAFF SUSPENDED

THE Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) had disclosed that an intensive preliminary investigation has revealed a breach of theory examination papers for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) in the ongoing Professional Licensure Examinations (LEX).

In a statement, HPCZ Registrar and Chief executive officer Professor Fastone Goma said the Council has therefore, nullified the MBChB examination which was written on Monday 18th September 2023.

He said a different theory paper will be set for the 519 affected medical candidates to sit either in Lusaka or Copperbelt Province on Wednesday 27th September 2023.

“The practical examination (OSCE) will still be held on Thursday 28th September 2023 as previously advised. For the 203 Pharmacy candidates who were registered to sit LEX at 09:00hrs on Tuesday 19th September 2023, HPCZ cancelled the examination within minutes of commencement after discovering the paper had leaked. The affected candidates were sent away to pave way for printing of an alternative examination paper which was eventually administered on the same day in the afternoon,” Professor Goma said.

He said the decision and the process of changing the Pharmacists’ theory paper will be subjected to vetting at an extra-ordinary meeting of the Training and Examination Committee of the HPCZ Council on Thursday 21 September 2023.

He said the final decision whether to nullify or uphold the Pharmacists’ examination will be communicated shortly thereafter.

Professor Goma further disclosed that nine members of staff who played a technical role in the organisation of the examination have been suspended with immediate effect pursuant to the Health Professions Council of Zambia Disciplinary Code and Grievance Procedure to facilitate thorough investigations into the matter.

He said the members of staff found wanting will be dismissed while the candidates will be charged with unethical behavior and are liable to sanctions including exclusion from sitting LEX and a subsequent ban from registration to practice.

“We would like to assure all stakeholders that the Council holds itself to the highest standards and this matter is being given the utmost attention and seriousness needed to protect the integrity of the Licensure Examinations while demonstrating ethical practices of the professionals involved, for the sake of the noble profession,” he said.

ZANIS reports that facts of the matter are that in May this year but on an unknown date, the plaintiff Magret Simuya 51 entered into an agreement with Tiyanjano Kalinde to rear 158 broiler chicks for her .

Kalinde agreed to keep the chickens which became ready for sale late in July this year.

Ms Sumuya told the court that She was only given K6, 900 as part of the proceeds in the four days of conducting the business.

We have been robbed of a loving father, cry Yakaipa’s daughters

DAUGHTERS of murdered businessman Ernest Sikaonga aka Yakaipa have mourned about being robbed of a loving and caring father.

Yakaipa, a prominent businessman of Nkeyema in Western Province was last week beaten to death by a mob in Mumbwa that linked him to ritual killings.

As hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their final respects to Yakaipa yesterday, one of his daughters expressed her profound sadness while recalling the exceptional qualities of her father

“Papa lived a life of generosity, kind-heartedness and dignity in love.”

“You (Yakaipa) were a selfless giver that loved pleasing people more than yourself. Your life was captured (taken away) by the community of Mumbwa. Daddy, you experienced trauma during your death.

“Being killed by man, denying us from your love and [to] see us through adult. We are broken as your children. Life will never be the same without you.”

The other daughter referred to the day Yakaipa passed as “a dark Wednesday,” the day when the man she loved and admired the most was taken from her
“How could you come this early?,” she questioned death.

“Death came and stole our counsellor, mentor, hero and a loving father. He meant so much to me. Papa, your transition to the new abode left void in us that no one can ever feel.”

“After the brutal murder, we sadly say goodbye to an icon who brought joy to us as your children and your entire family. I could have loved you to stay longer with us. To see you enjoy the fruit of your endeavours,” she added.

“But the decision of the people of Mumbwa oh man….” the daughter said in between sobs, “Papa, you were always prepared to sacrifice your comfort for the welfare of others.”

She said Yakaipa’s death had left her with a heart attack no one could ever heal.

“Papa, to the world you were just a person. But to me, you were an amazing dad.”

She remarked that her father stopped at nothing to ensure his children lacked nothing.

“You will forever remain in our hearts. Papa, as we bid you farewell, may the light of God illuminate your path to eternal rest.”

President Hichilema has exceeded all our expectations, not with his success, but with his failure- Sean Tembo

0

ABOUT PESSIMISTS, OPTIMISTS AND REALISTS: A CASE OF FAILURE EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. When Mr Hakainde Hichilema was elected President of the Republic of Zambia, l knew that he would fail to properly govern this nation, but l did not think he would fail so disastrously as he now has. You can call me any names that you wish, but please do not call me a pessimist, because I am not. In fact, l am neither a pessimist nor an optimist. To the contrary, l am a realist. I look at the facts presented before me and l extract what the most likely reality is, regardless of whether such possible reality paints a rosy or gloomy picture. In the case of the then Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, the facts that l was able to extract during my interactions with him while in opposition painted a picture that he was far from being the brilliant President that most Zambians expected him to be. But those facts also did not paint him to be a disastrous President that he has turned out to be.

2. In other words, l had expected Mr. Hakainde Hichilema’s presidency to be just average, nothing spectacular. No industrial revolution that Zambia is so much in need of. No entrepreneurial revolution that the nation is so much in need of. No significant agricultural revolution that would position us to feed the entire Africa. No economic revolution that would allow this nation to convert it’s huge economic potential into actual wealth for the benefit of our people. I did not expect anything spectacular from Mr. Hakainde Hichilema’s presidency. But l expected him to get the basics right, like any average President. I expected him to make sound negotiations with mining entities so that Zambia could get a fair share of value from the mining industry in terms of tax revenue, employment of our citizens in senior positions, giving business to our local suppliers and contractors and paying them on time, remitting gross forex proceeds of mineral sales back to Zambia so that we can prop up the Kwacha exchange rate and not just have a theoretical balance of payments position which shows a surplus and yet the Kwacha exchange rate is in a free fall.

3. I expected President Hakainde Hichilema to get basic things right like ensuring food security by reducing the cost of production of our staple food through investing in Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia so as to increase its capacity to produce all our fertilizer needs as the case was during KK’s time so that we can produce cheap fertilizer since we have all the required raw materials locally, and our farmers can produce cheap maize, so that our millers can produce cheap mealie meal. I expected President Hakainde Hichilema to ensure stability of key economic variables such as the exchange rate, inflation rate, prices of key economic inputs such as fuel etcetera. In my mind, l took it that these are basics that should be expected from an average President.

4. However, in the past two years that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema has been in office as President of the Republic of Zambia, his performance has been far below the expectations of the majority of the Zambian people. The people that put aside tribal and regional considerations and gave him a landslide victory with 2.8 million votes against his closest rival who only had 1.8 million. The people that expected Mr. Hakainde Hichilema to be their Moses, who would take them to the promised land. The land of milk and honey. But President Hakainde Hichilema has not only disappointed the majority of the citizens who had high hopes in him, his performance has fallen shot of those of us who had low expectations. Those of us who did not expect him to deliver spectacular development but did not expect his presidency to be a total disaster either.

5. Before we can talk about any other aspect of national development, the starting point is that our citizens need to eat and eat well. If you have a population that is malnourished, it hinders proper brain development meaning that the caliber of citizens that you will have in future are unlikely to have the necessary brain power to adequately contribute to national development. Therefore, a Government that is failing to adequately nourish it’s citizens with adequate food is laying a solid foundation for future poverty and underdevelopment. President Hakainde Hichilema’s agricultural policies in the past two years have not only been poor, but totally chaotic. I mean, how can a President of sound mind fail to distribute farming inputs for two consecutive farming seasons and is now poised to fair to deliver farming inputs for the third consecutive 2023/2024 farming season? And Mr. Hakainde Hichilema did not end at delivering low crop production despite good rains, he went further by exporting the little maize that had been produced to neighboring countries like D.R.C, on the argument that it is a profitable market. He is talking about profit when the Zambian people are talking about how to survive their hunger with a 25kg bag of mealie meal selling at an average price of K330 in Lusaka and K450 in most border towns.

6. Indeed, it is unlikely that this nation can ever make progress towards economic development when we are still grappling with bread and butter issues. When our economic variables are not stable and the Kwacha keeps swinging like a pendulum and prices of key production inputs such as fuel keep being revised on a monthly basis with no room for businesses to plan. We cannot achieve economic development when we are not collecting the requisite tax revenue from the mines because we have given them tax holidays under the lame argument that such “insentives” will make them increase copper production. We cannot achieve national development when millions of dollars are wasted every year sending senior Government officials and their relatives abroad for medical treatment and yet critical machinery at the Cancer Disease Hospital and other hospitals across the country are not working because Government has failed to remit a few thousand dollars to service providers. We cannot develop this nation when President Hakainde Hichilema is wasting millions of dollars booking private jets and sleeping in 7 star hotels across the globe and yet the majority of our youth are declined student loans so that they can pursue tertiary education. Indeed, President Hakainde Hichilema has exceeded all our expectations, not with his success, but with his failure.

FORMER HEAD OF STATE MUST NOTIFY CABINET BEFORE TRAVELING, SAYS THABO KAWANA

FORMER HEAD OF STATE MUST NOTIFY CABINET BEFORE TRAVELING, SAYS THABO KAWANA

MINISTRY of information and Media director spokesperson Thabo Kawana says former President Edgar Lungu is required to inform Cabinet before undertaking any travel, as he is considered a state asset.

In a recent turn of events, Mr Lungu took legal action against the government after his planned trip to Korea was unexpectedly halted on Saturday.

However, he subsequently withdrew his court case on grounds that it will be an academic excercise.

And during a press briefing held yesterday, Mr Kawana clarified that Mr Lungu holds significant knowledge of state secrets, making it imperative that any of his international planned travels are subject to Cabinet approval.

“The state has to secure him as person and also secure the secrets he has as a person that held office of Presidency, so even if the trip is private , the state has to send officers ahead of him and check who has invited him, who is talking to ,what sort of people and so on, so if no notice is given to government and government is unable to provide security to be able to check ahead of the former president then he cannot be allowed to move, he cannot therefore just decide to move out of jurisdiction,” he said.

Mr Kawana said protection of state security needs adequate preparation as the former president is not an ordinary person or private citizen.

“Just flip the coin on the other side, say he went somewhere, and government is not aware and something happens there, the Zambians people will turn around and say you are irresponsible and reckless government, how is it possible that the former went somewhere and you are not aware, so we are responsible of the former head of state, and therefore there is no one gagging his movement or infringing on his rights, he knows and understand he protocols that go with that office,” he said.

Mr Kawana said there are no private movements especially those out of the country, adding that wherever the former President goes he ought to inform government for it to make adequate preparations.

He added that restriction of movement for former heads of state is everywhere stating that Mr Lungu know too much to mingle with every Jim and jack.

“He will not take government by surprise, he will have to give to give government adequate notice, and if government is not ready to provide necessary security he will be stopped from travelling,” he said.

KAPOLI NI KAPOLI, IT IS STILL THE SAME VEDANTA – LUSAMBO

…..says Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal is NOT trustworthy

Lusaka….Tuesday, September 19, 2023 ( Smart Eagles)

The People on the Copperbelt cannot celebrate the reinstatement of Vedanta Resources at Konkola Copper Mines, Bowman Chilosha Lusambo has said.

Hon Lusambo is a former Copperbelt Province Minister.

He said some named Ministers have been staging people to celebrate the return of Vedanta just to push a certain positive narrative.

Hon Lusambo was speaking on Prime TV’s Oxygen of Democracy Programme where he also advised Government against trusting Chairman of Vedanta Anil Agarwal.

He said Agarwal has a history of failing to honour promises

“Having worked with KCM closely, it has been established that Agarwal is a liar. He told the Government that he wanted to pump in a lot of money. He failed to fulfil those promises. Two ministers for commerce and Mines staged those people to give a perception,” he said.

On claims that the Vedanta of UPND is different to the Vedanta under PF, Hon Lusambo replied “Kapoli ni Kapoli, nangu mumusambe mumufwike suit, mumubike pachipuna, akafumapo akaya mumatipa, that is what we expect from Anil Agarwal”.

In another development, Hon Lusambo said the nation is now waiting for the full details of President Hakainde Hichilema trip to China.

Hon Lusambo was one of first politicians to advise President Hichilema to go to China, because it holds key to Zambia’s debt.

“We advocated for the President to travel to China, we want to congratulate him for travelling to China. We owe Chinese Government more than $6 billion. We are now waiting for the full disclosure of the engagements in China and see how Zambia will benefit. We would want to hear the full disclosure of his trip to China. The President was too fast when talking to the media. We will wait on how the President will explain to the people of Zambia on his 6 day Visit,” he said.

Hon Lusambo has also noted that the President travelled with a huge delegation of ministers to China.

He said Moving with ministers is inevitable and the President was not supposed to be pretending in the first place.

“I was taken aback when I saw the President travelling alone in these other engagements. It was unfortunate that in the previous trips, he was moving alone. Wherever the President is going, it is supposed to be I. The interest of the country. It was not surprising to see the President with those Ministers. The only thing ringing on people’s minds was this is the President who was talking about Prudent utilisation of resources. Even in the first place, he was not supposed to be pretending that he is going alone or with one or two stuffs from state House. Moving with ministers is inevitable. We have seen these things with our past Presidents,” he said.

FIRST QUANTUM ANNOUNCES PASSING OF CO-FOUNDER AND CHAIRMAN PHILIP PASCALL

FIRST Quantum Minerals Limited has announced the death of one of its founders and Chairman, Philip Pascall.

Philip passed away peacefully today at his home in Perth, Western Australia.

He co-founded First Quantum in 1996, serving as the Chairman since its inception and Chief Executive Officer until 2022.

Under his leadership, Philip instilled an entrepreneurial and bold culture that saw the Company grow from a 10,000 tonnes tailings re-processor with the Bwana Mkubwa project in Zambia to one of the world’s largest copper producers with operations spanning five continents and employing more than 20,000 people globally.

Amongst the many legacies he leaves behind, the greatest source of Philip’s pride were the many programs for the local communities in which First Quantum Minerals operates bringing improved standards of health and education in often remote places.

The Board of Directors have voted to elect Robert Harding, Lead Independent Director, as the Company’s Interim Chairman.

Mr Harding has been a Director of the Company since 2013 and has a full understanding of the Company’s operations and unique culture.

In his role as Chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee, Mr Harding oversaw the Company’s succession planning process that led to the appointment of Tristan Pascall to the role of Chief Executive Officer in May 2022.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we extend our sincerest condolences to the Pascall family and friends,” Harding said.

He said the company is indebted to Phillip for his extraordinary leadership at First Quantum, setting it firmly on the path to the modern, multi-national mining company it is today.

“Philip was a friend and mentor and his passing will be profoundly felt across the Company and the many people and lives he impacted as a result of his vision,” he said.

And Chief Executive Officer Tristan Pascall the company will continue to build on Philip’s legacy.

“Whilst this is an enormous loss for all of us at First Quantum, Philip would not want us to dwell too long on his passing. He was always looking forward and was excited by the trajectory of the Company.

Philip drove First Quantum’s focus on project execution, operational excellence and social responsibility and we intend to continue to build on his substantial legacy,” he said.

Dangote refinery to finally commence operation in October

0

The long-awaited Dangote refinery heralded as a game-changer for Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa, will receive its initial shipment of crude in the next two weeks.

From October onwards, it is set to commence the production of approximately 370,000 barrels per day (b/d) of diesel and jet fuel, Dangote Group Executive Director Devakumar Edwin, revealed.

The director, who is overseeing the $19.5 billion refinery, outlined a detailed production timeline, shed light on crude and product flows and laid out a litany of complications and delays to the project since it was first mooted in 2013.

“Right now, I’m ready to receive crude,” said Edwin, who previously ran Dangote Cement. “We are just waiting for the first vessel. And so as soon as it comes in, we can start,” he said during an exclusive interview with S&P Global Commodity Insights.

At its full planned capacity of 650,000 b/d, the refinery would make Nigeria self-sufficient in fuels and leave plenty more for export.

Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil producer, but it imports refined petrol despite having four refineries that have become dysfunctional. Oil explorers in the country export crude to foreign refiners and import it back to the country for sale to downstream players, eroding its foreign exchange reserves.

Dangote’s refinery is poised to be a game changer. However, due to persistent delays and cost overruns, doubts emerged about whether Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, would ever complete the project.

In May, Business Insider reported that Nigeria’s goal to refine its oil is set to become a reality in 2 weeks with the commissioning of the project. Four months later, the world’s largest single-train refinery is yet to commence operation.

Meanwhile, fuel prices have skyrocketed in Nigeria after President Bola Tinubu scrapped the long-standing fuel subsidy that has kept oil prices at affordable prices for citizens in May.

According to Edwin, the refinery, officially inaugurated by outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari in May, will have a phased launch. It will start with the production of 350,000-370,000 barrels per day (b/d) of diesel and jet fuel by October, when the crude distillation unit, sulfur block and hydrogen plant should be online.

Subsequently, on November 30th, the refinery will ramp up to 650,000 barrels per day (b/d), with approximately half of the production dedicated to gasoline, a critical component of Nigeria’s fuel demand.

S&P Global analysts have projected that the refinery may not achieve its full operating capacity until mid-2025, with further delays still possible.

Still, forecasts from the capital market company suggest Nigerian gasoline production will exceed imports until the 2040s due to the refinery.

Although the refinery was designed to process light sweet Nigerian crude, state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corp, a shareholder in the project, can not supply the refinery until November, Edwin said. So, Dangote is buying oil from trading houses. Vitol and Trafigura recently carried out inspections of the plant, he explained.

“At the last minute, [NNPC] said, ‘We have actually committed our crude on a forward basis to someone else’, so immediately they don’t have the crude. This is a temporary issue, and the refinery should run on exclusively Nigerian crude by November,” he said.

He also emphasised that Nigerian oil will be purchased in US dollars, not naira, as some reports had suggested because it is located in a free zone on the outskirts of Lagos. However, due to its equity stake, NNPC will supply some crude at knockdown prices.

Edwin said the scale of the refinery meant being “solely dependent on Nigerian crude would not be advisable”, meaning the refinery can process most African crudes – apart from heavy Angolan grades – as well as Middle Eastern Arab Light and even US light tight oil.

“We can take even some of the Russian grades… if the global system opens up to allow us to receive them,” he said.

While discussions were initiated as early as 2013, Edwin said Dangote only began physical construction five years ago following a string of delays and mishaps. “The first plot of land in a free zone in Ogun state was ditched following potentially “disastrous” political interference,” he said.

Following the acquisition of 33 square kilometres of land in Lagos state for $100 million, the team discovered that over 70% of the plot was swampy terrain and spent a year clearing it.

Then, faced with the possibility of rising seawater claiming the land in the next 70 years, Dangote spent $50 million elevating the land by 1.5 meters. “We had to hire the world’s largest dredger, second largest dredger, and third largest dredger to… pump in about 65 million cubic meters of sand.”

The company also had to construct a port capable of receiving extremely heavy assembled equipment because it lacked the infrastructure to assemble equipment in Nigeria, import 200,000 pikes to prevent sinking, buy 320 cranes and invest in a 10 million ton per year granite quarry.

Ultimately, delays proved a blessing, Edwin said, because “we had time to increase the capacity of the refinery [and] improve efficiencies in the design.” What will be the world’s largest single-train refinery began life as a 300,000 b/d project, Edwin said.- AFRICA.BUSINESSINSIDER.COM

India upset as Trudeau accuses someone of murder

0

People in India still remember the armed Sikh rebellion that lasted for ten years, especially during the 1980s. Thousands of people lost their lives during that time.

When Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that Delhi was involved in the death of a Sikh leader from Canada, a lot of Indians got upset.

Mr Trudeau said that Canadian intelligence is investigating “believable claims that might connect” the Indian government to the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a well-known advocate for an independent Sikh homeland and was shot and killed on June 18th in British Columbia.

India said that the claim was ridiculous and they do not agree with it.

As Delhi and Ottawa are engaged in a very serious disagreement, experts, writers, and officials from India have been expressing their opinions on social media.

In easy words: Canada, Justin Trudeau, and Hardeep Singh Nijjar are the most talked about topics on X.

One person said that Delhi responded strongly to Canada, while another person said that the government showed Trudeau who is in charge.

Some well-known Indian news websites are reporting that India strongly responded to Canada, making fierce statements in return.

India’s main opposition party, Congress, usually doesn’t agree with the government. However, they have now stated their support and believe that we should not make any concessions when it comes to fighting terrorism in our country.

Especially when terrorism puts India’s independence, unity, and strength at risk. Party spokesperson Jairam Ramesh wrote on X that we should always prioritize the best interests and concerns of our country.

A well-known Sikh separatist leader, Mr. Nijjar, was killed in his car by two masked gunmen in the parking lot of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, a city near Vancouver.

In the past, Delhi called him a terrorist who led a group that wanted separation, but they say they are not responsible for his murder.

Many people in India also agreed with Delhi’s official position, with experts saying that Mr. Trudeau’s accusations could make relations with Canada even worse.

Canada and India are not enemies, they are friends. According to Bhrama Chellaney, Trudeau’s connection with Sikh extremists in Canada has put a lot of pressure on the relationship between India and Canada.

Some people said that Mr. Trudeau was trying to get votes from Sikhs by doing things they didn’t respect. Canada has a large number of Sikhs who live there, even though they are originally from Punjab, a state in India.

Smita Prakash, a reporter from the Asian News International (ANI) news agency, said that Mr. Trudeau had already infected the investigation and legal process with his biased views since he accused India of being responsible for Mr. Nijjar’s death, using his position of power and authority to do so.

“She wrote on X that he is asking for help from India, but also accusing Indian authorities of the murder. ”

The relationship between Canada and India has become more difficult in the past few months. Trudeau and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met at the G20 summit in Delhi last week, but their meeting did not go well. It was described as “frosty” and as a result, trade talks between the two countries have been canceled.

MrTrudeau was made fun of because there was a problem with his airplane and he had to stay in Delhi for two more days. Local TV stations and news websites covered stories about the Canadian Prime Minister’s trip, which was described as a failure.

“God Was Not In It”: Anger As Apostle Chiwenga Laughs At Nelson Chamisa After August Election Loss

“God Was Not In It “: Anger As Apostle Chiwenga Laughs At Nelson Chamisa After August Election Loss

Some people online are furious after Apostle Chiwenga laughed at CCC leader Nelson Chamisa following his 2023 election loss.

Citizens Coalition for Change Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa lost the August poll with 44% to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 52.6%. However, the election was muddled by allegations of irregularities, reflected in the SADC Observer Mission Preliminary Report.

Chamisa decided not to challenge the Presidential election results in court, citing that the judiciary system in Zimbabwe is compromised.

Apostle Chiwenga Laughs At Chamisa After Losing Elections

Controversial cleric Apostle Talent Chiwenga threw jibes at the CCC leader after losing the 23 August poll. Speaking in a recent sermon, Chiwenga said:

“You tell people that God said you’ll win, then you lose, then claim you’ve been robbed, let’s pray. We then begin to ask you if God has also been robbed. Because you said, God was about to do it for you. Can God be robbed?

“Did you not say ‘God is in it?’ So what happened? Meaning to say God came out of it, isn’t it? Because if he were in it it would have been successful. It means God is not in it.”

Zimbos Take Offence

Some people on X did not take these comments well and threw salvos at Apostle Chiwenga. Check out their sentiments below.

Masibanda:

“God hardened Pharaoh’s heart for a reason. Watch the space!!!! It’s not over till God says so. NC said God is in it. He never said God said he’s winning. The “loss”, and I put that in quotes, is all God’s design for a bigger outcome.”

Nicodemas:

“I have realised all young influential people in Zimbabwe hate Nelson Chamisa because of jealousy! Chiwenga’s church can collapse anytime because of useless sermons like these!”

Orlando:

“vanhu vese avo maroja kwavanogara, vanodya dry bread kuseni vachiwira ma pick up kuenda kubasa neku church, but they find this nonsense worth of an applause.”

Kenny:

“Chiporofita chinoda kudzidza UYE kukura machiri ukasadaro unoporofita nemweya wa legion.”

ECL CAN BE THE ‘INTERSECTION SET’ OF THE OPPOSITION

ECL CAN BE THE ‘INTERSECTION SET’ OF THE OPPOSITION

By Patrick Samwimbila

IN THE PATRIOTIC FRONT – Following the events of Friday, 15th September 2023 at the PF Secretariat where Honourable Miles Sampa marched with a group of violent cadres in an attempted illegal takeover of the PF Secretariat, an action which can be likened to a “coup d’etat”, I am seriously scared for more violent divisions if the PF party decided to go to an elective general conference any time soon.

I strongly feel that for PF to survive and reclaim power come 2026, we should allow ECL to continue holding on to the PF presidency a little longer up until all sponsored divisive elements are out of the party. At the moment, it’s only President Edgar Lungu who has the capacity to unite and bring together the “founder members” and the so called “hijackers” to avoid any unfortunate splitting of the party. Hearing Honourable Cornelius Mweetwa bragging that he is one of those sponsoring confusions in the opposition Patriotic Front makes me realize how deep this problem is. So as PF we shouldn’t play in their 18 by going for the convention too soon, let’s wait so that they first get tired of sponsoring those who are scheming the concept of “kufilila mumusenga”.

May Secretary General (SG) Nakachinda now embark and concentrate on meeting the structures to take stock and fill up any gaps in all structures where such gaps exist. Flag off party mobilization activities in each and every branch, ward, constituency, district and province. It is in this mind that I am seriously considering petitioning the Central Committee at their next sitting so that they defer the convention to a much much later date and year.

THE OPPOSITION IN ZAMBIA – Zambian people have spoken and are speaking unity in the opposition for the purpose of building a strong force which will give them a fresh hope. The New Down Government currently seems not to care much the suffering of the people because they are too comfortable in their fallacy that Zambia has no formidable opposition which can remove them from power come 2026, that’s why they are not performing. They keep saying give us time up to 10 years, which simply means they arrogantly feel they will still win the elections in 2026 even if the bag of mealie meal hits K500 and a litre of fuel at K50. This thinking is an insult to the Zambians.

To achieve this highly talked about opposition unity, Zambians across all provinces should just rise and voice out to beg President ECL to help act as the “Intersection Set”. It would be nice to see opposition leaders’ solidarity to each other, mutual respect and genuine comradeship. For example, opposition political parties should not be priding themselves too much in receiving defectors from within themselves (the opposition), instead they should focus on defections from the UPND because its more rewarding. There are many UPND members out there who are frustrated and they are ready to defect. Njala yachilamo muziko!

Edgar Lungu Is Being Misled By His Advisors – Chief Mpezeni

LUNGU IS BEING MISLED BY HIS ADVISORS – MPEZENI

PARAMOUNT Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province says former president Edgar Lungu is being misled by his advisors.

The traditional leader made the remarks during a press briefing at Lusaka’s Taj Pamodzi Hotel and where he was flanked by other Chiefs from Eastern Province.

The Chiefs advised Lungu who has secretly rescinded his decision to leave politics and is currently scheming on contesting the 2026 elections to allow his successor perform his functions.

“President Hakainde Hichilema and Lungu should make peace and not squabbling every time. This is wrong! there’s need for co-existence in order for the nation to develop,” chief Mpezeni said.

“I want to be the arbiter between the two because things are getting out of control. Lungu had his time he did his part and he should move on and allow HH to do his part.”

He said just like seasons change, so does the power wheel as he has witnessed presidents come and go since the Kaunda era.

Chief Mpezeni censured the parties against conspiring with outside forces in attempts to topple the other.

“Nothing of this sort (conflicts) happened in the past for instance when you fight in your home you need to quickly reconcile and not involving third parties,” chief Mpezeni said.

“It’s the same as you fight with your wife at home and you want to make it known to the public people you are just embarrassing yourself.”

He indicated that the Head of State and Lungu ought to make up as their controversies may lead to war fare and impede the nation’s development.

“I would love to see these two politicians the incumbent president and his predecessor to resolve their discords, no one is correct politicians are liars and they are sometimes ill advised. They (Lungu and HH) are both fighting for the presidency when war breaks out there will be nothing like this is Mpezeni or who we will all die. You need to protect your home,” chief Mpezeni guided.

He indicated that chiefs never set their foot wrong but instead their indunas try to potray them bad because they do not speak unanimously with the chiefs.

“Such is not right! indunas misrepresent chiefs and make them look like they don’t know what they are saying. These indunas don’t want to tell people the truth because of their selfish interest let’s tell people the truth and promote forgiveness,” chief Mpezeni said.

“Lungu is being misled by his people and so is the President because their advisers have vested interest. When someone wrongs you don’t kill them forgive them and reconcile. Being a leader is not easy, Let’s not inflame their brawling but instead allow these two to reconcile so that they quit fighting.”

He stressed the need for politicians to value peace.

“We are enjoying this freedom because Kaunda fought for independence. If the late president Kenneth Kaunda and his allies fought each other during the colonial era like what we are witnessing today we wouldn’t have attained independence,” he said.

Chief Mpezeni urged commentators to give the President time to address the high cost of living unlike rushing to the media to complain.

“We all want to complain to government to address mealie meal prices and that of fertilizer and consider the plight of the masses by reducing the cost of living,”said chief Mpezeni.

“He (President Hichilema) is also human he Knows the price of mealie meal is high let’s give him room to address the challenges and not rush to the media to talk about mealie meal and fertilizer we won’t develop the nation if all we do is complain.”

CiSCA CONDEMNS CABINET OFFICE’S RESTRICTIONS OF FORMER PRESIDENT LUNGU’S TRAVELS

CiSCA CONDEMNS CABINET OFFICE’S RESTRICTIONS OF FORMER PRESIDENT LUNGU’S TRAVELS

Lusaka, 19 September, 2023

The Civil Society Constitution Agenda (CiSCA) condemns the cancellation by Cabinet Office of former President Edgar Lungu’s travel to South Africa and South Korea.

In a letter dated September 7, 2023, Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Dr Oliver Kalabo stated that the former President’s request to travel to South Africa had been turned down. No reasons for the refusal were given. The letter was in response to a letter written to Cabinet Office on 16th of August, 2023 by the office of the Sixth Republican President, indicating that the former President was invited as guest speaker together with other former Presidents in the region to a World Peace Conference to be held in Seoul. That trip was also cancelled and he was ejected from the plane after he had already boarded.

As a human rights promoting movement which advocates for and promotes the rights and freedoms of all citizens, CiSCA would like to remind the government on the provisions of Article 11(b) of the Constitution on the Fundamental Rights and Freedoms which provides to the effect that, “It is recognized and declared that every person in Zambia has and shall continue to be entitled to the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual, that is to say, the right, whatever his race, place of origin, political opinions, colour, creed, sex or marital status, but subject to the limitations contained in this Part, to each and all of the following, namely:”…(b) freedom of conscience, expression, assembly, movement and association;…”.

In seeking to travel outside the country, former President Lungu was simply trying to exercise his right to movement which is provided for under freedom of movement as enshrined in Article 22 which guarantees the Protection of Freedom of Movement. Article 22(c) is very clear and states that everyone has “the right to leave Zambia and to return to Zambia”. This right, as we can see was denied the former President.

Therefore, the statement from the Chief Government Spokesperson, Hon. Chushi Kasanda that former president Edgar Lungu was stopped from travelling to South Korea because he did not seek clearance from the Cabinet Office is a clear violation of his constitutional rights.

The decision by the government to restrict the former Head of State from travelling to South Korea without justifiable reasons is unconstitutional and unacceptable.

It is also a clear contradiction to the trip to South Africa, where there was a letter written for clearance and that was rejected without any reasons being given.

To the extent that the medical review is not time bound and the World Peace Conference is only slated for tomorrow, 20th September 2023, CiSCA demands that former President Lungu be immediately allowed to exercise his constitutional rights and travel to South Africa to seek medical attention and to South Korea to speak at the World Peace Conference in Seoul.

THE DAY PF STOPPED RB FROM FLYING OUT. . . Edgar Lungu was acting president

By KENNEDY LIMWANYA

THE DAY PF STOPPED RB FROM FLYING OUT
. . . Edgar Lungu was acting president

ONE month before, we had been to Nairobi, Kenya, for an election observation mission during that country’s 2013 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Former United States president Jimmy Carter had appointed former Zambian president Rupiah Banda co-leader of the Carter Center election observation mission in Kenya.

Mr Banda would co-lead a 50-member team with Professor John Stremleau, the Carter Center vice-president for peace programmes.

While the Zambian High Commission in Nairobi had, as previously, shunned Mr Banda, the Kenyan government and the Carter Center had provided all logistics for him.

By the way, when we arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, there was a diplomatic gaffe committed by the Zambian High Commission officials which left the Patriotic Front (PF) government embarrassed.

I will reveal the details of this brief diplomatic fallout in due course.

While in Kenya, Mr Banda would meet some opposition presidential candidates, including Raila Odinga and Peter Kenneth.

He would also be the keynote speaker at a pre-election international conference at the Kenyatta University School of Law.

The Kenyan elections had taken place on March 4, 2013 and that country’s incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta had retained his seat.

After successfully carrying out the observation mission in Nairobi, we had returned to Lusaka on March 7, 2013.

Eight days later, on March 15, 2013, the PF government lifted Mr Banda’s immunity against prosecution.

This was just under 18 months after Mr Banda had lost the September 2011 presidential election to the PF’s Michael Sata.

Slightly over a year earlier, when the PF was pushing for the lifting of Mr Banda’s immunity, he had warned them that they were setting a bad precedent for future presidents.

At the time Mr Banda’s immunity was being lifted, I was deputy administrative assistant in the Office of the Fourth President.

The PF were really in a hurry to prosecute Mr Banda as, only 10 days later, on March 25, 2013, he was charged and arrested.

Following Mr Banda’s arrest, he had surrendered his passport to the directorate of public prosecutions as part of his bond conditions.

The Kenyan government would later invite Mr Banda to attend President-elect Kenyatta’s inauguration on April 9, 2023.

When the invitation came, we, in the Office of the Fourth President, wrote to State House to inform President Sata about it.

Secondly, we wrote to Cabinet Office for authority for Mr Banda’s aides to travel.

In the same vein, Mr Banda’s lawyers wrote to the DPP, requesting for the release of Mr Banda’s passport.

The DPP could not release the passport and was only compelled to do so through a court order.

Around 09:00 hours, on April 9, 2013, I and some colleagues from our office arrived at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

After a while, Mr and Mrs Thandiwe Banda arrived.

We were ready for the trip aboard Kenya Airways.

But was the government ready?

Zambia’s acting president at the time was Home Affairs minister Edgar Lungu as president Sata was in China.

As we were about to check in, what humiliation the former president suffered!

The immigration officers at the airport, whose department fell under Mr Lungu’s Ministry of Home Affairs, informed us that they had been instructed not to allow Mr Banda to fly out.

What would we do but return home?

Less than two months later, on the morning of June 6, 2013, we were back at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport to see Mr Banda off to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 2013 African Presidential Roundtable at the invitation of the Boston University African Presidential Center.

We could only watch as the South African Airways plane which Mr Banda was supposed to board was taking off.

Immigration officers, under Mr Lungu’s watch as Home Affairs minister, had blocked him from leaving Zambia.

That was despite a Lusaka High Court order allowing him to travel.

Just a peek into history.
