Zulu king’s first wife fails to halt third marriage

The first wife of South Africa’s Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has failed in her legal attempt to halt his plans to take a third wife.

Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela went to court ahead of what was expected to be the wedding later this week.

But despite the ruling, it is not clear whether the wedding will still go ahead as planned.

On Saturday, South African media quoted a letter reportedly from the king saying the ceremony had been called off “due to reasons beyond the control of the royal house”.

Polygamous marriages are recognised in South Africa but only if they are registered as customary weddings.

This latest row comes amid a series of scandals that has hit King Misuzulu since he came to power just over two years ago.

The Zulu king does not have formal political power and the monarch’s role within broader South African society is largely ceremonial, but he remains hugely influential with a yearly government-funded budget of several million dollars.

Before he was enthroned, the king married Mayisela in 2021 in a civil marriage.

In her legal argument heard in the high court on Monday, the queen, through her lawyer, said that the king could not marry anyone else as their marriage was still in force.

Under South African law, a civil marriage must either be dissolved or converted to a traditional union before a man can take any more wives.

In rejecting the application to halt the king’s marriage to Nomzamo Myeni, Judge Bongani Mngadi said that as the queen had already consented to the idea that her husband could marry other women, she could not prevent a ceremony from taking place.

Last year, according to what was said in court on Monday, the royal couple had agreed to convert their civil marriage to a traditional one. But since then the king has applied for a divorce, saying that their relationship had broken down.

Despite the reported letter, as well as the king’s lawyer in court, saying that the wedding would not take place, contradictory statements have also emerged.

South African news site TimesLIVE is reporting that the bride-to-be said she knew nothing about the letter and as far as she understood, her wedding would proceed as initially planned.

According to another news site, IOL, which reportedly spoke to the couple, the king insisted that he loved Myeni and would “marry her by force”.

Since his coronation in October 2022, there has been controversy around some of the decisions King Misuzulu has made.

In December, he unlawfully suspended the board of the Ingonyama Trust, which owns and controls vast tracts of communal land in KwaZulu-Natal, which is supposed to be for the benefit and welfare of communities under the king’s leadership in the region.

King Misuzulu is the sole trustee and chairperson of the trust but has no powers to hire or fire board members.

He has also recently summarily fired two close aides, including his traditional prime minister, in quick succession – moves which raised eyebrows among royal watchers.

Misuzulu’s position as king is also being questioned by some and a legal case is currently under way challenging his recognition as monarch by the state.

He ascended to the throne sooner than expected after his father, King Goodwill Zwelithini, died during the Covid pandemic in March 2021 of diabetes-related complications.

Zwelithini was the Zulu nation’s longest-reigning monarch, having served on the throne for almost 50 years.

Husband of adult star who sl£pt with over 1057 men in 12 hours wants nothing to do with her

The estranged husband of controversial adult star Bonnie Blue is reportedly “furious” with his wife whom he is divorcing.

Bonnie, a 25-year-old content creator, embarked on a challenge to sl£ep with 1000 men in 12 hours. She ended up surpassing her target by sl£eping with 1057 men, according to her PR team.

She boasted that she could thank the “barely legal, barely breathing and the husbands” for helping her achieve her unconventional life goal.

However, the real identity of Bonnie Blue has now emerged. Her real name is Tia Billinger and she led a normal life until recently, having married her childhood sweetheart and worked in recruitment.

The Derby native was married to rugby player Ollie Davidson, who plays for Long Eaton RFC, in Derbyshire, where both he and Tia are from. Tia worked at a local Poundstretcher, a variety store chain, as a teenager, and joined privately educated Ollie and his affluent family on an all-expenses-paid trip to Mexico when she was 16.

The couple stayed together, moving to Australia for a working holiday, where they lived on the Gold Coast.

Friends of Ollie have now revealed that he is not pleased with his ex’s behaviour – and neither is his family.

When Tia’s s£x work became more and more extreme, the pair split, with a friend of Ollie’s now claiming to the Mail that he “wants nothing to do with her”.

According to the Mirror, one of his friends added: “It’s shocking, she’s got to be doing it for publicity. We all feel sorry for him.”

After moving into a £250,000 house in Nottingham and working in recruitment, Bonnie switched careers and became a webcam girl. Initially, her husband Ollie was all for it and supported her through it.

She previously said: “At the time, neither of us wanted to work Monday to Friday. We wanted more out of life. We knew continuing to do our jobs, doing the same, you’re not going to change.”

Speaking to Yahoo! Lifestyle recently, she added: “There’s been a lot of judgment and jealousy. I had an old friend come up to me and say that I have no respect for myself and don’t deserve any in return, and another close friend told me how her friends think she shouldn’t be friends with me anymore. I don’t mind, they are judging me for having a million-dollar business whilst they live with their parents and have to work for someone else.”

She added: “My family is so proud of me, my dad loved it when I had someone come up and ask me for a photo the other day! They’ve even asked to be in my TikToks. I’ve recommended this job to many family members on this trip!”

I won’t d!e until I father 32 children — musician says as he marries three women same day

Renowned Isoko highlife musician, Dr Arube Otor, popularly known as Isoko Fela, has declared his unwavering ambition to father 32 children before leaving this earth.

Otor, 53, who already has nine children, married three wives in a grand ceremony on Sunday, January 19, 2025, in Uzere, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, bringing his current count to four wives.

The event was held at the Anglican Church Field London Base, Uzere Kingdom.

“I want to have 32 children, and until I realise that dream, I won’t leave this earth,” he said.

Born into a polygamous family, Otor has embraced the lifestyle, citing the harmonious relationship he shared with his father’s four wives while growing up.

“Polygamy was never a problem in our home. We bonded well and still maintain a healthy relationship,” he said.

Explaining his decision to hold a single reception for his three new wives, Otor said it was a cost-saving measure.

“I’ve already paid their bride prices, and we’ve been living together. The event is just a reception. Members of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria will provide music, and logistics for refreshments are finalised. It will be a big day,” he added. Best headphones deals

Otor, who also plans to marry two additional women in the future, said he ensures that his wives live in harmony. “If there’s a dispute, I meditate in the presence of the others so everyone learns from the resolution. My wives are independent; one is a hairdresser, another a caterer, and one a trader,” he said

Despite his age, Otor is confident in his ability to fulfil his marital duties.

He attributes his vitality to a natural diet, avoiding rice and aphrodisiacs.

“I don’t eat rice because it weakens a man. My diet keeps me fit and ready. I visit my wives weekly, and none of them feels neglected,” he explained.

Mortuary worker sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling body parts online

A mortuary worker has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for hawking body parts including fetuses to a sicko collector covered in face tattoos and piercings.

Candace Chapman Scott, 37, sold the human remains from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Anatomical Gift Program to Jeremy Lee Pauley, a heavily pierced Pennsylvania man she met on a Facebook group that “openly discussed the sale of body parts,” according to Jonathan D. Ross, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

At her sentencing, Judge Brian S. Miller called her crimes “some of the worst I’ve ever seen” and sentenced Ross, of Little Rock, for transporting stolen human body parts out of the state and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.

Last April, she pleaded guilty to the charges.

Scott’s disgusting deeds, which included selling a skull, brain, arm, ear, several lungs, hearts, breasts, a belly button, and testicles, along with other parts — occurred between October 2021 and July 15, 2022, prosecutors said.

Pauley, 42, a self-described “oddities collector,” paid her $10,625 for 24 body part boxes, part of a twisted underground national network of body snatching from Harvard Medical School and the Arkansas mortuary.

When investigators searched Scott’s home, they found several body parts and she admitted to bagging them at her job.

The heartless morgue worker even told Pauley that the wrong ashes from a cremated body would be returned “to the parents of the deceased fetuses,” prosecutors said.

Mortuary worker sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling body parts online to sicko covered in face tattoos and piercings
“Imagine learning that the cremated remains of your child given to you after their death were not actually those of your child, because instead, the FBI recovered the body of that child in another state. That is the shocking truth that happened in this case for the family of “Baby Lux,” Ross, said in a press release.

“Baby Lux was named ‘Lux Siloam,’ which means ‘light sent,’ and now his light has illuminated an evil and dark underworld of criminals who engage in the trafficking of stolen human bodies and body parts,” he added.

At the sentencing, Doneysha Smith, Lux’s mother, told the judge she was heartbroken after hearing of the heinous crimes.

She’s haunted at night by “my son being sent around the mail like an Amazon package,” the Gazette reported.

Miller, meanwhile, sobbed before her sentencing and apologized.

The FBI called it a “truly incomprehensible and detestable crime.”

“This sentencing does not reverse the immeasurable damage that has been caused to the victimized families, however, the FBI and our partners will continuously work to ensure justice is served for all,” said FBI Little Rock Special Agent in Charge Alicia D. Corder.

For his part, Pauley is on bond awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in Pennsylvania to conspiracy and interstate transportation of stolen property, according to the Gazette.

Kodak Black Welcomes Fifth Child With Fourth Different Woman

Kodak Black‘s family continues to grow with the arrival of his fifth child to a fourth different woman.

The news was shared by the child’s mother on Instagram, where she uploaded a number of photos of the newborn baby and revealed that he was born on New Year’s Day.

It is not known if Kodak was present at the birth as he is not seen on any of the pictures.

She captioned the post: “01/01/2025, 8:00pm// PRINCE VULTURE. The Last Piece Of My Heart. Idk How I Can Ever Repay You God For My Blessings But Ima Do Right By U And My Kids In The Meantime. My Life Feel Complete Now, My Boy Is Perfect. Happy New Year #2025.”

The slideshow reveals that the baby boy’s full name is Prince Vulture Octave Kapri, sharing the same surname as his rap star father (who is called Bill Kahan Kapri).

It was revealed last summer that Kodak Black was expecting his fifth child, just months after he welcomed his fourth, leading to significant drama with his various baby mamas.

The news was announced in a video shared online, showing Kodak and his baby mother-to-be celebrating with an extravagant party surrounded by family and friends.

During the brief clip, fireworks were set off and the words “Baby Kapri” — a nod to Yak’s surname — were lit up in giant letters on a lawn.

It had previously been claimed by one of Kodak’s other baby mothers, Jammiah Broomfield (with whom he shares an eight-year-old son named King Khalid), that he was expecting another child, although she didn’t divulge the mother’s identity.

The drama led to Kodak’s other baby mama Maranda Johnson vandalizing his luxury vehicles and going on a social media rant after he was seen hanging out with Broomfield.

Maranda took aim at Jammiah (a.k.a. Maya), saying: “You doing all that groupie shit and still don’t got shit. Everything he buy King you sell it to buy drugs. You deadbeat-ass bitch. You so proud to get fucked and sent home. How you a side bitch to yo own bd??”

Flight attendant fired for twerking speaks out, starts GoFundMe

0

After a moment of fun cost her her “dream job,” Nelle Diala is now regretting her choice. She expressed, “I’ve learned from my mistakes and those don’t define me….We listen and we don’t judge.”

Diala, an Alaska Airlines flight attendant, lost her job after sharing a now-viral video of herself twerking on an empty flight while waiting for a pilot.

“Don’t let the uniform fool you,” Diala initially captioned the widely shared video, which has received over 72,000 views.

The San Francisco native subsequently revealed that she was participating in a victory dance to celebrate the conclusion of her probationary term as a new recruit.

She stated, “I was also celebrating the end of probation and making it out of a hard upbringing in San Francisco, CA . LIFE-something many people in the industry could relate to.”

But rather than love and support, the video, which went global overnight, attracted unforeseen critique.

Diala recounted her experience, saying she had been employed by the airline for more than half a year. During this time, both of her English bulldogs died suddenly, and her relationship suffered as a result of her absence.

“But I loved my job—meeting new people, seeing the world, and creating a safe, welcoming environment for passengers. It wasn’t always easy, but I was proud of what I did. Although this was my dream job I was using the income to fund my blossoming lingerie and dessert business named: @cakezncake & @figure8.lingerie.”

She however, acknowledged her actions saying, “Although it was a poor decision on my behalf I didn’t think it would cost me my dream job.”

She alleged that her employer had accused her of violating their social media policy. She added that though she explained that the video wasn’t intended to harm anyone or the company, they didn’t want to listen.

“Without warning, they terminated me. No discussion, no chance to defend myself—and no chance for a thorough and proper investigation.”

“Losing my job was devastating. I’ve always been careful about what I share online, and I never thought this video, which didn’t even mention the airline by name, would cost me my career. Now, I am trying to figure out how to move forward,” she continued.

Since then, Diala has reposted the twerking video with the new description, “Can’t even be yourself anymore, without the world being so sensitive,” according to the Daily Mail. “What’s wrong with a little twerk before work, people act like they never did that before.”

She has since launched a GoFundMe to support her. On the fundraising website, she said that she started collecting money “to make ends meet due to this sudden loss of income and until I am able to find another flight attendant position elsewhere.”

The page has made $2,684 of its $12K goal.

Rick Ross Expresses Desire To Meet Davido, Blaqbonez, Others

Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, is in Cape Town to shoot a music video for Dangerous II.

The music mogul touched down in Cape Town on Monday and has been taking to social media to gush over “the most beautiful place in the world.”.

The American rapper seems to be loving our South Africa by posting videos of the scenery around Camps Bay and telling everyone that Cape Town is the number one destination in 2025.

As strange as that sounds, Rick Ross has also been spotted shooting a commercial for Pick ‘n’ Pay.

Judging from snippets on social media, it would appear that Ross is also enjoying some of the best homegrown delights that the Cape of Good Dope has to offer.

The renowned American rapper has been working with several local South African artistes and has publicly expressed his desire to meet Nigerian music sensations, Davido and Blaqbonez.

Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer who has paid his dues in globalizing African music.

He is regarded as one of the most important Afrobeats artists of the 21st century and helped popularize the Afrobeats genre.

However, Blaqbonez is popularly known for his distinct rap style as well as his creative ingenuity, and in 2019, he was profiled by The New York Times as one of the new guards of Nigerian music.

Ross, currently in Cape Town, South Africa, encouraged Davido to continue fostering unity and growth in Africa’s music industry.

In a video shared on social media, Rick Ross praised Davido, calling him his favorite Nigerian artiste and a “future legend” while giving props to DJ Mekzy, Young Wise, Young Marley, Alpha P, and a few others.

Ross also encouraged them to keep up with the good work and continue to promote good music around the world.

Joe Budden Claims Drake Is Ruining Hip Hop With UMG Lawsuit

Joe Budden has ripped Drake for filing a defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group over Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us,” calling him a “Karen” who is ruining Hip Hop.

The rapper-turned-podcaster aired his grievances with the bombshell suit on the latest episode of his eponymous show, adding to the chorus of criticism aimed at the 6 God for taking legal action in a rap beef.

During a lengthy and scathing segment, Budden accused Drizzy of being a hypocrite over his claim that UMG incited a 2024 shooting at his Toronto home, as well as multiple trespassing incidents, by promoting “Not Like Us” and its “threatening” lyrics.

“When [Drake] and I got into whatever we got into and them fans showed up to my house, he incentivized that, he cheered them on, he put them on a public platform, he applauded that behavior,” he said.

He also criticized Drake’s tough-guy persona by saying: “You at the game running around with this n-gga that has been threatening Kendrick saying, ‘I’ma kill you, I’ma do X, Y, Z,’” referring to fellow Canadian rapper Top5 who recently beat a murder case and threatened to shoot Kendrick if he comes to Toronto.

“You know how you running around with and you know what you doing and you know what you threatening. So if you that, then be that. But don’t be that and also Karen out […] I don’t like it. It’s nasty and disgusting.”

Budden added: “That’s my beef with ‘Mob Ties’ Drake. I miss Drake. There are too many artists that are suffering from an identity crisis or begin to lose themselves when they get in this shit. I miss original Drake.

“The n-gga with the Blackberry and the corny T-shirts that couldn’t dress with no beard that everybody just wanted to get next to and get some of that corny sauce. Y’all knew that n-gga wasn’t like us, but he had the magic touch.”

Joe Biden pardons civil rights leader Marcus Garvey

0

On his last day in office as the US president, Joe Biden pardoned five people including the late civil rights leader Marcus Garvey.

He also commuted the sentences of two, according to a statement released by the White House.

Marcus Mosiah Garvey, who died in 1940, was a civil rights leader who influenced pioneer leaders such as Malcolm X and South African President Nelson Mandela.

In 1923, he was convicted of mail fraud and was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. His sentence was lessened by President Calvin Coolidge in 1927.

Garvey is often credited as the first man who organised a mass movement among African Americans by Human rights organizations.

His supporters claimed his case was aimed at discrediting the Black Revolution amid a period of racial unrest. He created the Black Star Line shipping company and founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association, which honours African history and culture, according to the White House.

Garvey was described as “the first man of colour in the history of the United States to lead and develop a mass movement” by Martin Luther King Jr. His global advocacy and impact are praised by advocates and lawmakers, also highlighting the injustice surrounding his criminal conviction.

According to the White House Statement, other people pardoned by President Biden on his final day in office include gun violence prevention advocate Darryl Chambers, who was convicted of a non-violent drug offence and immigration advocate Ravidath “Ravi” Ragbir, who was convicted of a non-violent offence in 2001.

Biden also pardoned Don Scott, who was previously convicted of a non-violent drug offence in 1994 and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, and criminal justice advocate Kemba Smith Pradia, who was previously convicted of a non-violent drug offence in 1994 and sentenced to 24 years imprisonment.

Biden also commuted the sentences of two individuals, Robin Peoples and Michelle West, who were sentenced in the 1990s and demonstrated remarkable rehabilitation.

KEY POINTS FROM THE PRESS BRIEFING HELD BY THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKEPERSON HON. CORNELIUS MWEETWA

The Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa,MP, this afternoon held a press briefing in Mongu, Western Province where he stated the following:

✅Government has unearthed a scheme by some opposition political parties in which they intend to tarnish the good name of the country by flooding alleged complaints of huan rights abuses through emails.

✅ In this scheme the opposition intend to incite young people, women and other groups of unsuspecting citizens to send as many emails as possible for the attention of the international community alleging that their rights have been abused in one way or the other by the UPND government.

✅A number of people have been recruited to act as victims of the alleged abuses of human rights.

✅Government has since advised citizens to be on high alert and guard against falling prey to the scheme and its sponsors.

✅ Government notes that the scheme is not only dirty but has potential to take away from the many successes the country has scored in the last three years.

✅Government also reminds the opposition, Patriotic Front, in particular, that citizens have not forgotten the rampant abuse of their rights they were sujected to in the last five years of the former ruling party.

✅The atrocities committed in the prevoius Government had never been seen before in the history of the country.

✅ A number of citizens lost their lives arising police brutality and political  violence ochestrated by the then ruling party.

✅Challenged the former ruling party and the opposition to name any one citizen who has lost their life as a result of the alleged abuse of their human rights.

✅Government advises the international community not to pay attention to the alleged abuse of human rights being peddled by the opposition because their claims do not in anyway depict the reality.

✅Stated that the PF in particular must the last ones to talk about human rights abuses because their leadership was the first of its kind in the history of the country where rampant plunder of national resources, theft, corruption, injustices against citizens and several other crimes are concerned.

✅Zambians have moved on and are only interested in the development od their country which they are happy with and are appreciative of.

✅Zambia is now on an economic recovery trajectory and will continue doing.

✅ Because of maladministration in the prevoius Government, the country lost the support of the international community and partners such as the European Union who recently announced resumption of their buget support due to the good record of the new dawn administration.

✅ Government, stresses that there is no citizen in prison or in police custody without any offence.

✅All those appearing before courts of law or law enforcement agencies are doing so for crimes they have commited or those they are alleged to have committed.

✅Upon being sworn in, President Hakainde Hichilema made it very clear that he would preside over the affairs of the nation with strict application and adherence to the rule of law, a situation that never existed in the Patriotic Front regime.

✅The scheme by the opposition is, therefore, not only mischievous and misguided but also a failed and desperate attempt to mislead citizens and the international community and ultimately dent the image of the UPND government and its leadership.

✅Government urges citizens to continue supporting President Hakainde Hichilema and his efforts meant to uplift their lives.

5 KASHIKISHI MEN SURRENDER THEIR LIVES TO CHRIST AFTER COUNTLESS WOMEN UNDERWEAR PAIRS WERE FOUND IN A CHIBUKU DRUM AT THEIR USUAL TAVERN

5 KASHIKISHI MEN SURRENDER THEIR LIVES TO CHRIST AFTER COUNTLESS WOMEN UNDERWEAR PAIRS WERE FOUND IN A CHIBUKU DRUM AT THEIR USUAL TAVERN

Five unidentified men from Kashikishi have surrendered their lives to Christ after authorities inspecting a named tavern, which was reported by a man who found a tag labeled  10/3XL in a Chibuku hand made Jar, found countless women underwear pairs in a drum which is used for Chibuku storage.

According to information available, a seasoned drunkard in Kashikishi after selling his Kapenta went to his favorite tavern and ordered two jars of Chibuku, walked majestically like he was holding diamond and and sat in a corner looking at the divas who own the tavern dancing seductively to attract customers.

After two sips, his tongue provoked the brain to question the taste of the Chibuku. The taste was different. He shook the jar countless times and continued to look inside believing there was a dead rat.

However, he could not find anything. The throat asked for more and the tongue was ready to taste the Chibuku for the second time. But the moment the jar rested on his lips, he felt something.

Trying to look carefully, it was a tag labeled “10/3xL”. He got it and tried to find out what this was but he failed. This forced him to call a man  that was near him and asked if he was familiar with such a tag. Before he could finish his statement, the man said it was obviously the last size of any underwear in the world.

The man did not say a word in response. He walked out and left the Chibuku on the table which hungry drunkards fought to get.

From there, he went to the coūncil and complained about it. Today when authorities came, they went straight to the Chibuku drums and found countless pairs of underwear with assorted colours some worn out with big holes.

Meanwhile, five men who have not be identified reportedly went insane crying like real abandoned babies when they saw 3XL underwears being displayed by authorities. It is  being rumored that they went straight to a near by church and surrendered their lives to Christ.

Meanwhile, Levy Ngoma, President Hichilema’s Special Assistant for Political Affairs, reminded the audience of the negative perceptions once associated with President Hichilema, stating that time has proven those misconceptions wrong.

Ngoma highlighted the President’s commitment to keeping Zambia a Christian nation and rejecting unnatural ways of reproduction, emphasizing the partnership between the church and government in driving the country’s development agenda.

Mr. Ngoma praised the transformative impact of the Constituency Development Fund, noting that its equitable distribution and increase have enabled infrastructure development, skills training, and loans, while also simplifying the work of Members of Parliament in serving their constituencies.

He underscored the importance of the decentralization policy, explaining how it empowers communities to identify and address their unique challenges effectively.

Ngoma clarified the cause of the by-election in Pambashe, stating that it was unrelated to President Hichilema or his administration but resulted from legal issues involving the former representative.

He concluded by urging clergy members to remain non-partisan while guiding their congregations to follow the right path.

The former Kawambwa Constituency Area Member of Parliament, who is also MMD National Secretary Elizabeth Chitika, has encouraged the church to support the development efforts of President Hakainde Hichilema and the government.

She highlighted different economic policies brought by President Hakainde Hichilema, such as the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

She added that the church should play a critical role in championing peace, love, and unity.

Guest Article ;

DR MILNER MWANAKAMPWE THE BEST PERMANENT SECRETARY (PS) SO FAR WHO SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND HIS JOB AND THE VISION OF PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.

As a resident of Mkushi, I am writing to express my heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional leadership and dedication to work by our Central Province Permanent Secretary (PS) Dr. Milner Mwanakampwe .

Dr Mwanakampwe understand well the responsibilities of a Provincial Permanent Secretary and the vision of our Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema .

Effective supervision of government policies and programmes, as well as the provision of policy guidance to both the central government and local authorities, are essential for the quality and timely delivery of development in our province.

Dr Mwanakampwe’s tireless efforts to drive progress and excellence in the development of our region and improvement of the lives of the people have not gone unnoticed, as youths we are greatly inspired by your type of leadership sir.

One of the strengths I have observed in Dr Mwanakampwe is his ability to inspire and motivate teams at different levels of bureaucracy. This has created a positive and productive work environment among civil servants and other public workers.

His door has always been open as he is ready to welcome and listen to everyone regardless of their status in society and give them support where he can, Dr Mwanakampwe, please keep it up, we the people of Mkushi and Central Province at large , value your handwork and contributions.

You are an exemplary leader, your new approach to development and inclusiveness has helped you to grow into an empathetic and effective provincial controlling officer.

Here are some of the reasons I am commending this man and encouraging him to work even harder for the people of Central Province;

1. Unlike in the past, he has introduced an open door policy in terms of access to his office.

2. The PS is courteous and respectful to everyone visiting his office, regardless of political affiliation.

3. Today when you visit his office, you have to follow the line even if you are a carder from the ruling party.

5. In the past, it was difficult for ordinary people like me especially from Mkushi to know who the Central Province Permanent Secretary was, more if you were not into politics. But today almost everyone knows this man because of his interaction with the province.

6. Dr Mwanakampwe’s biggest attribute, for me, is the fact that he accepts both praise and criticism.  As residents of Mkushi and other districts of central province, we have criticized him on social media many times, but he still gives us a listening ear when we complain.

7. He responds quickly to the Community Concerns.

8. . He always stands with the Voiceless and the Underprivileged, just like President Hakainde Hichilema.
To me, these are serious marks of leadership….

Unless one is using Political lenses to judge this man, Otherwise The Republican President, Dr Hakainde Hichilema, made a Perfect Appointment for the Position of Central Province Permanent Secretary. The man is down to earth apa pena balibomba ba kateka wesu…..thanks so much, Mr president, sir.

Dr.Milner Mwanakampwe means well for the people of Central Province all he needs is our support…

Yours Sincerely
Happy Mkushi Resident.

Why is O’Brien Kaaba laundering Hichilema’s sham anti-corruption fight?

Dr O’brien Kaaba
On 17 January 2025, President Hakainde Hichilema appointed a new five-member board of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to replace the Musa Mwenye-led ACC board that he dissolved in panic after one of his presidential aides is said to have informed him that the anti-graft body was preparing to arrest Solicitor General Marshal Muchende.

Those appointed include retired Supreme Court judge Evans Hamaundu, who succeeds Mwenye as chairperson, legal practitioner Kaumbu Mwondela, former diplomat Jack Kalala, and governance activists Engwase Mwale and Nalucha Ziba.

Hichilema also appointed Daphne Chabu, a member of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), as ACC Director General.

Commenting on these appointments, former ACC board member and University of Zambia (UNZA) constitutional law lecturer O’Brien Kaaba praised the new ACC board for its “collective courage to accept to serve on the ACC board”, despite the likelihood that they will “be scrutinised and insulted for nothing in return.”

The University of South Africa (UNISA) graduate continued:

“During my term there [on the ACC board], for example, Sishuwa Sishuwa wrote about three articles claiming that the government had bought us [i.e. the ACC board] into silence”, Kaaba wrote.

The former ACC board member assured the Hamaundu-led board of presidential support, describing Hichilema as someone who “is committed to letting no one in his government to escape accountability”.

All that the new team would need to do, Kaaba explained, is simply “actualise that [presidential commitment] and ensure [that] no one is spared”.

There are three fundamental points I wish to make on this subject.

The first is that I have never written a single article, let alone three articles, in which I “scrutinised” or “insulted” the Mwenye-led ACC board or stated that the government had bought the board into silence.

I have the highest regard for Musa Mwenye and consider him one of Zambia’s most forthright and upstanding citizens.

I respected his leadership of the board not-withstanding the significant constraints within which he and his team operated.

Not once did I say that the government had bought the Mwenye-led ACC board into silence.

All my political commentaries are in the public domain, and their review would yield no evidence in support of any assertions to the contrary.

Like anybody else, Kaaba is welcome to criticise my commentaries on Zambia’s political affairs, but his decision to spread falsehoods is regrettable.

The only substantive criticism I have ever made about Kaaba’s actions – criticism that had absolutely nothing to do with the ACC board – was his decision to cut a questionable deal with Solicitor General Marshal Muchende days after telling the public that Muchende was corrupt and that he had sufficient evidence to prove his assertion in the courts of law.

It is worth recalling that Kaaba was the sued party in the matter and had no reason whatsoever to cooperate with the Solicitor General, who had two clear options: either discontinue the case on his own or continue with it so that he could prove his innocence.

After Kaaba wilfully entered into a consent judgement with Solicitor General Muchende, whom he had publicly branded corrupt, I felt that the UNZA law lecturer had not only betrayed public trust but also demonstrated a disturbing lack of loyalty to principle.

If Kaaba is truly an anti-corruption activist, I asked myself, why did he not allow the case to proceed to trial so that the public is afforded the opportunity to know the truth about the alleged corruption of Solicitor General Muchende who, because of Kaaba’s actions, remains in his position to date?

A principled person and defender of public interest should never be intimidated by anyone, particularly if they are certain of what they have stated.

Such a principled person should, especially if an intellectual, be willing to bring out the truth irrespective of the consequences that may come their way.

They should be prepared to defend the justness and veracity of their convictions even in the face of death.

By entering into a shady deal with Solicitor General Muchende without any rational explanation of how the public interest was advanced through it, Kaaba lost, in my opinion, the right to be taken seriously when he talks about corruption.

If Kaaba is trying to launder or cleanse himself of his questionable consent judgement with Solicitor General Muchende, he should do so without trying to cast aspersions on my reputation – as understandable as his penchant for doing so is.

The second and more serious point to be made about the new ACC leadership is that their appointment demonstrates Hichilema’s continued lack of serious commitment and political will to fight corruption.

Any effective or serious fight against corruption requires, in my view, three crucial elements.

The first element is supportive or empowering legislation. There will be no serious fight against corruption in Zambia if the law that establishes the ACC is not amended to address its longstanding weaknesses.

As currently structured, the Anti-Corruption Act is not equipped to fight corruption. In fact, I would go as far as saying that the Act is so flawed that one must be out of one’s mind to accept an appointment to the board because there is nothing serious that they are going to do.

The Act currently provides for the board and the director general to be appointed by the President.

This is an anomaly since it makes those in the ACC management feel answerable to the President, not the board. This limitation helps explain why former ACC director general Gilbert Phiri and his successor Thom Shamakamba showed contempt for the very board on which Kaaba served because they knew that there was nothing that the board could do to them, even if they failed to discharge their responsibilities.

This should not happen. The ACC should be an independent body that must not be under the supervision of the President – himself a prime candidate for high-level corruption.

What is needed is to empower the board to choose the director general and the deputy so that the management officials are answerable to the appointing authority: the board.

The board itself should be made answerable to the National Assembly, not to the President. This can only be possible with amendments to the existing law.

As it stands, the ACC board has no control over the ACC management.

The board can neither discipline nor fire those in the executive leadership.

If Hichilema was as committed to fighting corruption as Kaaba would want us to believe, the President would have first changed the law to address these structural inadequacies that undermine the work of the board, including the one on which Kaaba served, before appointing a new board.

After all, such a change requires a simple majority in the National Assembly and can easily be passed by ruling party MPs alone.

After three years in office, and with a clear majority in parliament, what excuse does President Hichilema have for his failure to enact the necessary changes to the anti-corruption law?

Any President of Zambia who is seriously committed to fighting corruption, rather than merely paying lip service to it, would also have no problem amending the law to increase the sentences for those convicted of corruption.

Currently, the law provides for very short sentences for corruption offences, generally ranging from two to five years. The net effect of this lack of stiffer punishments is that potential offenders feel emboldened to engage in acts of corruption since they know that even if they are convicted and sent to jail, it would not be long before they are out to enjoy the loot, stolen from poor Zambians.

Again, if Hichilema had the will to fight corruption as Kaaba would want us to believe, the President would have changed the law to ensure that corruption offences attract a life sentence or a minimum of at least twenty years in prison.

Since Zambia’s experience shows that most of those who engage in high-level corruption are members of the executive, we may understand the reluctance by Hichilema to enact stiffer penalties for corruption as entirely self-serving or deliberate.

The second element of a successful strategy of fighting corruption is the presence in anti-corruption bodies of men and women with proven integrity.

Individuals who are appointed to the ACC board and management positions should be professionals with a clear track record of fighting corruption. This explains why the appointment of Mwenye as ACC board chairperson was met with widespread approval, given his distinguished record of opposition to corruption. In fact, what successive Zambian presidents have done is to appoint pliable executive heads of the ACC and seemingly strong-minded individual board members who cannot effectively supervise the pliable heads due to the structural constraints I cited earlier.

This is the strategy that Hichilema has now perfected

In appointing highly regarded professionals like Mwenye to the ACC board, Hichilema’s objective was never to fight corruption – noticeable evidence suggests that the President retains an extraordinary fear for competent and independent-minded people and has a penchant for surrounding himself with Yes Persons – but rather to hoodwink Western actors into believing that he is committed to fighting corruption by hoisting a strong board that is however rendered ineffective by legal constraints and a pliant ACC executive leadership.

This strategy might explain why Hichilema, even this time, has appointed a ruling party loyalist as ACC director general whilst giving a veneer of seriousness to the anti-graft campaign by appointing individuals with generally respectable characters like Nalucha and Mwale as board members.

Until her appointment, Chabu was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands. Successive surveys by Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) have shown that the most corrupt ministries in Zambia are health and lands. How does anyone who is serious about fighting corruption appoint a controlling officer from one of the country’s most corrupt ministries – and potentially a corruption suspect herself– to head an anti-corruption body? Given her well known political ties to both Hichilema and the ruling party, can the new ACC director general be expected to prosecute her fellow party members including ministers involved in corruption?

Simply put, what anti-corruption credentials does Chabu have that made her a suitable choice for the role she has been assigned?

What is needed for a successful anti-corruption fight, in addition to structural reforms, is having non-partisan individuals with a proven commitment to anti-corruption and moral wealth of character in both the board and the executive roles of the ACC.

The best way of finding or recruiting such talent is through an open and transparent system of appointment where vacancies on the ACC board or management are advertised and interested people are invited to apply.

This way, only the most qualified, competent professionals and individuals known to be committed to the fight against corruption will be hired into the Commission. For this to happen, the government needs to first create a merit-based system that would provide for formal qualifications and requisite qualities that interested candidates must possess.

This approach would allow anti-corruption bodies to fill existing vacancies only after a thorough interview and public vetting process in which the presidency is hardly involved.

It is one that I have consistently advocated, even when it comes to other public roles such as judges.

Again, if Hichilema had the will and commitment to fighting corruption as Kaaba would want us to believe, the President would have first established such a system, as opposed to maintaining the status quo and packing the ACC with his loyalists. As it stands, it is difficult to know what non-subjective criteria is used to identify the ACC board members and management leaders for appointment.

Where, for instance, is the evidence that the individual members appointed by Hichilema have, both in their personal and professional lives, the DNA that is required to fight corruption? If Hichilema was serious about it, he would have considered creating merit-based systems that would ensure that those who end up in bodies such as the ACC represent the best talent available for the roles.

There is surely no shortage of competent, impartial, and professional Zambians who can serve both on the ACC board and in the executive.

As it stands, any person who agrees to serve on the ACC board, as currently constituted by law and despite their knowledge of the challenges that the Mwenye-led board encountered, is potentially corrupt. This is because they are, in effect, accepting to be drawing public funds in form of allowances for doing nothing meaningful.

I know that Kaaba said board members get very little money, but the principal issue is the principle, not the amount.

How does any self-respecting professional accept an appointment to a role where they know – ignorance is an even more serious defect – that they cannot make any meaningful change because of structural limitations?

What exactly are they going to do? The point is that even if the ACC board and management positions are filled with professionals of proven integrity, they cannot do much about the fight against corruption if the law remains unchanged. In fact, anyone who is seriously committed to fighting corruption will first check the enabling law and, once they realise that the law sets them up to fail, respectfully decline the appointment.

The third element of a successful anti-corruption campaign is having a President who shows a clear or demonstrable will to fight past and especially present corruption.

Such political will can be demonstrated in several ways. One is to strengthen anti-corruption laws. Two is to deal decisively with the corruption of their officials or associates including those in the inner circle.

The other is leading by example.

A brief review of Hichilema’s record over the last three years shows remarkable failure on all three examples.

The President has not initiated any meaningful changes to the Anti-Corruption Act. Neither has he sought to align the Act with Article 216 of Zambia’s constitution that provides for the guiding principles relating to commissions:

“A commission shall —
(a) be subject only to this Constitution and the law;
(b) be independent and not be subject to the control of a person or an authority in the performance of its functions;
(c) act with dignity, professionalism, propriety and integrity;
(d) be non-partisan; and
(e) be impartial in the exercise of its authority.”

Since the Anti-Corruption Act was enacted before the 2016 constitutional amendment, it should have been amended to bring it in line with these constitutional principles. Hichilema has failed to preside over such changes while some of the officials he has appointed to executive roles in the ACC have, in subordinating themselves to his authority and acting in a manner that conveys partisanship or ‘ I  partiality, shown a clear lack of respect for these constitutional principles.

Furthermore, Hichilema has failed to lead the ant-corruption fight using personal example.

The President, who boasts of extensive  business interests in several sectors of Zambia’s economy, has refused to publicly declare his assets and liabilities as a show of his commitment to transparency and accountability.

This makes it difficult to work out to what extent his policies are benefiting companies in which he has an interest.

Hichilema and his supporters like arguing that there is no law that requires him to publish their declarations, but as US ambassador to Zambia Michael Gonzales correctly noted recently, “leadership is not about only doing the bare minimum that is absolutely required by law, but going beyond and doing what is right and needed to lead and shape reforms.” In any case, if Hichilema truly has the political will to fight corruption, and after three years in office, what exactly has stopped his administration from passing a law that would make assets declaration and publication – both for his office and other senior government officials – an annual requirement?

Hichilema has also shown an incriminating reluctance to dismiss ministers and other senior government officials accused of involvement in corruption. There are several credible reports of ministers and other public officials who engage in vote buying or use government resources to campaign for the ruling party in parliamentary or ward level by-elections. These include reports from civil society organisations such as TIZ and the Christian Churches Monitoring Group. None of the errant senior officials serving in Hichilema’s administration have to date been dismissed from their roles or prosecuted for this blatant abuse of authority of office – an offence under the Anti-Corruption Act. As Gonzales argued,

“There must be consequences for individuals who abuse their public positions for personal gain. They must lose their jobs, their assets, and/or their freedom. The costs of corruption must exceed the financial gain if we are going to stem corrupt practices.”

Given this abbreviated history of Hichilema’s cavalier attitude to the fight against corruption, I am at pains to understand why Kaaba would present such a record of failure as evidence that;     “Hichilema is committed to letting no one in his government to escape accountability”. If there is anything that Hichilema has done, it is to throw away any pretension that he is serious about the fight against corruption. I just wish the President could go a step further and change the name of the Anti-Corruption Commission to the more appropriate Pro-Corruption Commission (PCC).

The third and final point to be made about the new appointments to the ACC leadership relates to Hichilema’s continuing failure to reflect adequate ethnic diversity in his public appointments. What is with Hichilema and his clear preference for Zambians who hail from Southern, Western, and Northwestern provinces and/or the auxiliary ethnic language groups? It is as if a general prerequisite for appointment to investigative wings or law enforcement agencies under Hichiema is that one must hail from these provinces, collectively known as the Zambezi region, or at least have a biological parent who does. Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri and another head of a separate law enforcement agency are prime examples on this score, since at least one of their biological parents is an ethnic Tonga. Out of the six latest appointments that Hichilema has made to the ACC leadership, at least five of them hail from the Zambezi region and/or the auxiliary ethnic language groups. Having an anti-corruption body that is dominated by Zambians from one region may justifiably give room to perceptions of persecution from the marginalised ethnic-language groups. In any case, wasn’t this kind of regional bias or lack of adequate diversity in public appointments the same thing that Hichilema criticised when he was in opposition?

I repeat: Hichilema lacks serious or demonstrable political will to fight corruption. His strategy on this subject appears to be covering his tracks and hiding corruption. The President knows voters despise graft – a key reason they ejected his predecessor – and he is determined to prevent not so much corruption itself but the perception of it under his administration or among his senior officials. Mwenye’s board, as Kaaba has said, attempted to fight corrupti

JUSTICE HAMAUNDU’S EMINENTLY QUALIFIED TO HEAD ACC

…let’s avoid lynch mob mentality targeting defenceless individuals and undermining governance institutions…

By AMOS CHANDA

JUDGES and other presiding officers of our courts of law are on paper, very powerful individuals on whose judgement rests our individual liberties depending on their dispensation or a lack thereof, of justice, but in the face of public attacks oftentimes are arraigned against them unfairly, they are awfully defenceless.

The case of Justice Evans Hamaundu’s nomination to chair the board of commissioners of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is one such example of the now seemingly entrenched culture of a lynch mob mentality in our society.

This culture is not only detrimental to the reputations and other interests of individuals targeted, but worse so, for such people in the position of Justice Hamaundu, who may not have sufficient space to publicly defend themselves.

This abhorrent culture exists, not just in the widely abused social media and other spaces, but even among law enforcement agencies, who portray their accused as guilty until proven innocent, turning the very sacred tenet of mother justice right down its head.

Whilst it’s the targeted individual who bears the brunt of such excesses and unfair treatment, ultimately, it is lasting damage to the collective integrity of our governance institutions that is more telling.

The short term aggrandizement derived from such herd mentality moved by some disingenuous individuals, are less consequential than the damage we inflict on individuals and institutions.

We are creating for ourselves a dubious reputation that we are a 20 million corrupt mob from whom no “clean person” can be picked to head any of our public institutions.

Whilst academic and professional qualifications are now rarely questioned for appointees, it seems naysayers have fast replaced such pretensions with a new “assessment criteria” mainly anchored on such debasing references to ethnicity and the quite often unproven allegations of corruption, ostensibly designed to besmirch reputations of others.

How sensible would it be that a person can qualify to hold such a coveted office of Supreme Court Judge, and be unqualified to hold a part-time oversight role of chairperson of the board ACC or indeed any other governance institution?

How is it logical that Justice Hamaundu, appointed to the Supreme Court on 16 January 2014 by President Micheal Sata, would be “ethnically” incorrect today to be appointed to any other high office by President Hakainde Hichilema?

Is it not this same person who was appointed Judge of the High Court by President Mwanawasa in 2003?

This rich legal history of this merit-inclined judge, transcending three Presidents, cannot be reduced to ethnicity and unproven charges of graft.

From 1996 when he joined the Judiciary until now, with all of his 29 long years of distinguished service, are critics suggesting that he has metamorphosed into incompetence with all his invaluable experience?

With the dismissed frivolous and preposterous allegations of malpractice against Justice Hamaundu and three other Supreme Court judges, do the critics hold that the judge is guilty as alleged by the now deceased Mr. Misheck Chatora?

Since his admission to the bar in 1984 and entry into the Judiciary as Resident Magistrate in 1996, Justice Hamaundu’s reputation has always preceded him.

Further, this is a man with a well established record in the corporate sector where he worked with an unblemished record at every stage of his assignment.

He served as group company secretary for the National Media Corporation;company secretary for Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company, and company secretary for Maamba Collieries.

By any standard, the accuser, the late Mr Chatora isn’t, and cannot be our gold standard for an integrity test for the judges of our apex court.

As for the alleged “coincidence” of the President’s nomination of Justice Hamaundu to chair the ACC board immediately on his retirement as Supreme Court Judge, I would be surprised if this is indeed a coincidence.

The search for the appropriate head of the ACC has been ongoing for a while. The President would have known this judge would be retiring and so he waited until his exit before assigning him this oversight role.

The President would have known because a retiring judge writes to the President, three months ahead of time informing him of their desire to retire or consideration for continuation under contract.

As to why the President would wait for this particular judge to retire and not appoint anyone else, this judge perhaps was fitting the description of the person required to head the ACC.

For an oversight role for an institution so central to people’s property rights, civil liberties and general governance of our public resources and processes, a person the rank of Supreme or High Court judge is suitably qualified.

Mr Justice Hamaundu is hereby exceptionally qualified for the role.

And I should hope that the ratification and vetting authorities will address themselves to proven facts about the person and avoid the sway of the now entrenched lynch mob mentality being promoted in some circles.

Oversight functions at the ACC requires good judgment, a good judicious mind such as Justice Hamaundu’s, both in terms of training and unique experience of many years of justice dispensation at the very apex of the justice system.

We can’t hold ourselves as a nation where its entire 20 million people are collectively and singularly accused, and supposedly guilty, until proven innocent.

Whilst others have various opportunities to address the filthy thrown at them, judges sadly don’t. So those with something to say about the nominee, must exercise restraint and only say that which can reasonably be held as fair comment and in public interest.

Otherwise, the best approach is for anyone with dissenting views to approach the parliamentary committee for confirmation hearings and present their case.

To merely present these allegations on the basis of an historical and dismissed complaint before the JCC, is by all accounts disingenuous.

It is highly questionable, and not surprising that the JCC dismissed Mr Chatora’s allegations against the four Supreme Court judges: Justice Micheal Musonda, the Deputy Chief Justice, Justice Nigel Mutuna, Justice Roydah Kaoma and Justice Hamaundu.

That these four judges of our very apex court sought K20, 000 each as gratification is a scandalous slur on the collective conscience, not just of the Supreme Court but the nation as a whole.
That a blue-chip company the reputation of Zambian Breweries, with all its stringent anti graft measures and impeccable good corporate governance protocols, can easily reach a decision to bribe judges of the Supreme Court with any amount, let alone K20,000, is an extreme extension of the accuser’s imagination.

But since he is late, any further criticism of his judgment would be insensitive, his raucous allegations notwithstanding.

By virtue of my former position in government, (without offending the strictures of the oath of office) I had some official opportunity to glance at some of the professional and personal credentials of some of these judges, and the four simply pass for some of the best and brightest of our Judiciary.

Frivolous and vexatious allegations against individuals won’t just hurt the victims, but also erode public confidence in the public institutions designed to deliver public good.

We can’t be that ingrained, incredulous nation just for the sake of it.

JUSTICE HAMAUNDU’S EMINENTLY QUALIFIED TO HEAD ACC

UPND EXPULSIONS CONFIRMS HICHILEMA’S INABILITY TO TAKE CRITICISM- Fred M’membe

UPND EXPULSIONS CONFIRMS HICHILEMA’S INABILITY TO TAKE CRITICISM

Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND have expelled two party officials over what the UPND spokesperson and Minister of Information and Media, Mr Cornelius Mweetwa defined as “…using social media to launch attacks against the party”.

The expelled individuals are Mr Kebby Sikangila, a councilor for Kafue’s Chisankane Ward, and Mr Frazer Moonde, a member of the UPND National Management Committee (NMC).

According to Mr Mweetwa, the alleged transgressions, which earned the duo a kick from the party were that, Mr Sikangila had described the UPND as a “useless party”, while Mr Moonde called on members to rise against the leadership.

This is very unfortunate. This level of intolerance and heavy-handedness is dangerous, especially that its emanating from a party that prides itself as a liberal democratic formation. However, we are not surprised because such draconian measures corroborate with what we have been saying about Mr Hichilema as a person, and as a leader, and also about how he hates criticism, correction and cohesion. Mr Hichilema is a very strange human being! He only takes praise and adoration, and nothing else. It also validates our perspective that Mr Hichilema is prepared to do whatever it takes to annihilate and destroy anybody that is unwilling to be his bootlicker or praise singer.

There has never been a time in our country’s history that citizens and natural life has been so disheartening on account of having a leader who is intolerant, self-centered, arrogant and full of pride. Indeed, never have citizens seen our country driven to the cliff-hanger by a leader who only sees himself and his personal interests first, in everything that he does. There is no leader or administration that has desecrated the presidency or the leadership of this country with such pettiness, pride and intolerance like Mr Hichilema and the UPND have done so far.

We have never faced a shameless leader and regime that is resolved to govern through intimidation, and instilling fear in everybody including their own party members, who not so long ago risked and sacrificed for them to be where they are today. A leader and regime that is determined to pursue, gag and choke everybody, under the guise of safeguarding peace, discipline and order.

Like we have said before, under Mr Hichilema and the UPND, dictatorship has returned to Zambia with revenge.

Certainly, we have a regime that has calculated to suppress free political expression to prevent both their own party members, opponents and private citizens from holding them to account. Mr Hichilema is increasingly getting desperate because he has seen those droves of citizens, including UPND members, who are very frustrated and disgruntled, and have no faith, trust and confidence in his leadership. They can no longer manipulate and deceive the people, so, they want to dodge responsibility by silencing political rivals, UPND members and citizens through victimization, pettiness and intolerance. But this won’t work.

This government poses the greatest danger to the rights, freedoms and existence of citizens, including their own party members.

Our message to all citizens of this country, especially the frustrated and disappointed UPND membership is that Mr Hichilema and his government are not with the people. And logically, the people are also not with them. We are the people, who wield the real power and form the majority. So, we have the whole lot of what it takes to command the direction of our country.

We must not allow Mr Hichilema and his league to alter our lives with his pettiness, injustice, intolerance and victimization. Let us be peaceful in resistance but at the same time, we should not allow ourselves to be domesticated by a self-centered leadership that has failed by all standards.

UN special envoy in Zambia for 10 days to assess freedom of expression

UN special envoy in Zambia for 10 days to assess freedom of expression

THE United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression Irene Khan is in Zambia at the invitation of the Zambian government to conduct a 10 day assessment on issues related to the right to freedom of opinion and expression.

The special envoy’s visit aims to evaluate legal frameworks, policies and the safety of journalists.

Khan revealed that the visit will include consultations with government officials, civil society organisations, journalists and other stakeholders.

The findings from her mission are expected to inform strategies for strengthening freedom of expression in Zambia.

Speaking during a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation minister Mulambo Haimbe in Lusaka today, the special envoy said she will be able to address the Zambian people through the media on her last day of the assessment.

After her findings, Khan is expected to have a word with the Zambian government on different aspects of the right to freedom of expression.

“I will be able to give you advice and discuss recent developments on human rights and how to strengthen your government’s commitment to human rights. I will present my findings on freedom of expression on the last day of visit on the 31st of January, 2025 and I will speak to the media. I welcome the invitation from your government,” she said.

Haimbe welcomed the UN’s mission and affirmed government’s commitment to transparency, the rule of law and upholding fundamental rights.

He assured the UN that government will not in any way interfere with her meeting all the relevant stakeholders.

“Your interaction with different stakeholders underscores the transparency that is there in this government. We want to ensure that we are governed by the rule of law. We also respect the freedom of expression. We invite you to feel free and have access to all the key stakeholders you want to meet,” he explained.

DEMOCRATIC SPACE NOT SHRINKING IN ZAMBIA BECAUSE PRESIDENT HICHILEMA IS A DEMOCRATIC LEADER

DEMOCRATIC SPACE NOT SHRINKING IN ZAMBIA BECAUSE PRESIDENT HICHILEMA IS A DEMOCRATIC LEADER
————————————————-
2/1/25

We have noted with dismay, the concerted efforts by the opposition to misguide themselves and spread falsehoods anchored on malice and ill will accusing the UPND government of human rights abuses and shrinking the democratic space, when in fact not.

We all know that as we get closer to the 2026 poling day, all manner and style of uncouth politicking will be the order the day, including these baseless and unfounded allegations of human rights abuses by government which is purely and clearly targeted at President Hakainde Hichilema.

More so, the nation is aware that the New Dawn Administration under the focused leadership of President Hichilema is committed to the protection and promotion of the right to freedom of expression and the media, which has resulted in the most expanded democratic space ever since independence.

However, this democratic space is grossly abused by hard hitting government critics who oppose anything and everything government says and implements regardless of the obvious benefits to the general populace.

Zambians will recall that in the past, media houses which expressed divergent views and opinions critical of government were closed down in an iron fist media clampdown by the former regime.
This is factual and well documented.

It must be noted that President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration has not closed down any media house since assuming office in 2021, even the ones openly agitating for regime change.

Moreover, it’s very unfortunate that the opposition have chosen to ignore the President’s open door policy to engage with government on matters of national interest, instead of ganging up to vilify the Republican President whom they accuse of dictatorship and shrinking the democratic space when in fact not.

It’s in view of the foregoing, that we call upon the people of this great nation, particularly the people of Western Province not to be swayed by the misleading sugar coated statements of the opposition as they are anchored on malice and ill will, aimed at tarnishing President Hakainde Hichilema’s image home and abroad.

Zambian heart patient stuck at Kakande Ministries  in Uganda

Afterthought

What I am about to write here shall invite me the usual insults and back lash so warning, you are welcome to disagree with me, even strongly, but don’t hurl insults, just say why you support.

For me this man is a charlatan, simple. And he is one of the view I have openly called that in the past.

Here are my simple answers to the three items raised

✍ The Prophet with his millons $$ can’t help him return to Zambia?

That’s a joke. The “Ministries” serve one purpose, to “milk” anyone that travels there. And since many of our people are soooo gullible and operate with a sheeple mindset, they go there.

Let me be blunt. There is NO HEALING! I can assure you like a bunch of other such “men of God” they screen all cases BEFORE they even do any so called testimony or prayer. If anyone has terminal illnesses, they NEVER SEE THEM or even parade them.

I know a number who’ve been there, come back and died. It’s so sad that people think they can get anything there. Keep watching and you’ll tell me.

Note: Kaili apa manje with all this “bad PR” they will quickly come up with some gimmick to “see him” and “pray for him”. But since the gentleman has a terminal illness, that’s “bad for business” so let’s wait and hear how they pull this one off to “save face”!

✍ They can’t waive the “consultancy fees” to see him and “pray for him”?

And lose money? No ways! Everything at that ministry is rigged to get money spent. That is the whole idea.

From commissions for “agents”, the buses, the lodges and accommodation, the food, the memorabilia and even the trinkets (holy water and oil) are serious money spinners.

It’s never been about helping. Anytime you see those “helping” videos, it’s PR. Simple!

But kaili we are “fighting the anointing!” As we say in Zambia, ni zanu, muzatipeza! (That’s your own business, you’ll find us here)!

 Where are the brand ambassadors like Wycliff Mwamba to help?

Well I don’t know why they don’t just get together and help. Surely there is a big number of people who have benefitted from this ministry before, not so?

Why not get money, put them together end intervene? What about Wycliff Mwamba and Mwizukanji? Don’t they have more than enough money to help? And what about all those big names and influencers who have been to Uganda?

Wonders shall never cease.

For me it’s all a big scam being run there. They are just taking advantage of vulnerable persons under very immensely trying trials. And when I think about it, who is the worse “devil” here according to the faithful supporters, yours truly for warning you not to waste your money and resources going there, or themselves for taking advantage of desperate people to fleece them of their last funds?

This is so tragic!

I shall continue warning, that’s my sacred duty!

You’ve heard 

PS: Latest developments are that he was finally assisted, like I suspected. Nobody from that ministry would want such bad press, so it’s a face saver!

Don’t fall for this ministry! I have a colleague who had cancer who went there for prayers and died four months later!

He is one among several. Let’s not lie!

PPS: Latest comments suggest he is a conman who was trying to scam Zambians. So which is the true story here? Someone posted and said it was addressed and was an update for them.

So which, the scamming story, or Kakande Ministries intervened and helped him out?

WHY IS THE  NAME ‘MPEZENI’ A WRONG ONE?

WHY IS THE  NAME ‘MPEZENI’ A WRONG ONE?

By  Gumbi Kaziguda Jele

Over the past 7 decades or so, the name ‘Mpezeni’ has been a popular one among the Zambian mainstream media. Most of us have grown up knowing this name as the correct name for the amaNgoni Nation’s leader. But you see, the name has actually evolved over time. Depending on the early writers of Ngoni history, different versions exist of the name.

However, none of the earlier Ngoni historians ever tried to understand the meaning of this name. Worse more, no one ever thought the name was not confined to Zambia alone. Ignoring this aspect entailed people spelling the name based on how they heard the locals spell it. Over time, we got stuck with ‘Mpezeni’.

When Ngonis began to write their own books, mostly after 1975, they also began this task of trying to understand the meaning of the name. And by then, ‘MPEZENI’ was the popular version. So they assumed the name is of Nyanja/Chewa origins and interpreted it to mean ‘FIND HIM’. However, when further pressed to explain the historical root of this name which meant, ‘Find Him’, they rushed to refer to the 1898 British-Angoni war.

This was a big mistake! Again what was ignored was the fact that the name had been in use and even documented decades before the 1898 war. The new breed of Zambian journalists, the political face and historians still continued to use this wrong name of the Ngoni King. So what is the correct spelling and what is its historical foundation?

The correct name is in fact MPHEZENI from the verb UKUPHEZA meaning to ‘leave off’ or ‘discontinue’. The name has its roots in the flying heir incident of 1826 when most family members of his mother were killed and their village burnt to the ground by the group led by Induna Gwaza Sithole.

Ndunakulu, Soseya MaNxumalo miraculously escaped after the regiment found her pregnant and they refused to kill the seed of the King. When she gave birth in June 1827, the baby was rightly named MPHEZENI in remembrance of the same 1826 incident.

The young Prince Mphezeni would be hidden in the vilage of Lowengweni for close to three years and his father only knew he had a son after three years. After growing up and settling in the present day Chipata area, the now King Mphezeni decided to name his new capital as LOWENGWENI (the word has since been corrupted to Luangeni) in respect of the village where he was born and that harbored him for three years.

Once we mispell his name, we take away its historical significance and meaning. Its due to such misspellings that we now have comical narratives that the name is of Chewa origin when we all know all of King Zwangendabas sons had Nguni names as they were born when Ngonis still spoke their tongue.

FALCON TEAM UNEARTH ECL SCHEME TO CAUSE CHAOS IN ZAMBIA

By Falcon  Editor,

Fellow Countrymen and women , we are aware of the desperate scheme by the plan “B” Edgar Chagwa   Lungu team in which they are busy paying different players a lot of money to paint the United Party for National Development (UPND) government black , through skilled and sponsored propaganda write ups to the international institutions, publishing  fake information and messages on Zambia’s Human Rights record .

The scheme is to frustrate the efforts made by President Hakainde Hichilema to recover Zambia’s economic fortunes which lost in the PF rampant corruption  and irresponsible leadership; The aim  is to destroy investor confidence.

The scheme further is to stifle the achievements  Zambia has made by standing out as the best investment destination in the world.

The scheme by Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his minions is a desperate undertaking and a waste of stolen money .

Mr Lungu , yesterday undertook a seemingly medical trip to South Africa with some of his misguided members , who started publishing propaganda right at the Kenneth Kaunda International AirPort claiming that police were intimidated by UN officials’ presence , which was cheap politics done out of desperation.

All Zambians know that Zambia houses the United Nations offices with credible staff , as such police would not be stopped by an institution from carrying out their mandate . The only reason for  Mr Lungu’s  trip is that the government okeyed the trip .

After seeing that his expected drought could not hit Zambia , Lungu has now resorted to sponsoring individuals, organizations, private citizens to dent the image of Zambia hoping the international community would isolate Zambia and later on , Zambians hate President Hakainde Hichilema and his government .

All these attempts are the last kicks of a dying horse . PF is dead and buried . They stole a lot of money from Zambians , caused bloodshed, gassing , destroyed the mining sector and stopped recruitment youths in government.

Here is the message posted by Edgar Lungu and his minions captured by Falcon :

“Coallegues
Let us take advantage of the presence of the UN Rapporteur to report the Human rights a uses in Zambia.
We need to help for example Hon Mumbi Phiri, Why Me, the young man in prison in Kalomo etc to write their reports.
Let’s flood her with emails.
Organize ordinary citizens, youths, women etc to report as well.

I will be forward the email and template
The email must be well structured. The abuses should be clearly categorized and UPND underlying motivates and assumptions included.

I propose the following categories:
1. Current saving MPs
2. Former Ministers
3. Former MPs
4. Current MCCs
5. Current party leaders at other levels
6. Former Senior government officials appointed by our President (includes PSs, DCs ets)
7. Social Media influencers
8. Journalists etc”. End of quote !

The message above demonstrates political recklessness, lopsided reasoning , extreme  and dangerous appetite for power , uncaring bitter heart for the people of Zambia .

We all know that under  HH’s leadership, Zambia has seen unprecedented growth in the mining sector , free education, peace , increase in CDF, meaningful fight against corruption in which Ukwa bags have been recovered , timely payment of salaries of civil servants , an end  to bloodshed and gassing , among others .

In other countries, Edgar Lungu could have been jailed by now .

This is the quality leadership Zambia has been lacking for years .

For the first time from independence, Zambia has managed  to recruit over 42,000 teachers in a space of two years .

We want to urge Edgar Lungu to own up and accept that Zambians retired him in 2021 after he lost by a wide margin . Let the old man retire in peace and act honorably like a former head of state , than planning evil and planting a seed of anarchy in Zambia.

TIP OF THE ICEBERG: AUDITOR GENERAL’S REPORT ON CDF ABUSE AND WASTAGE

TIP OF THE ICEBERG: AUDITOR GENERAL’S REPORT ON CDF ABUSE AND WASTAGE

The 2023 Auditor General’s report on the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has exposed extensive irregularities at the Lusaka City Council (LCC).

According to the report, the LCC disbursed K5.3 million to 373 beneficiaries, whose identities remain unknown. It was further discovered that these recipients could not be traced, and no business operations associated with them could be located. The audit also revealed that the LCC disbursed K336,000 in soft loans to individuals that were not on the approved list of beneficiaries.

We are not shocked with these evident irregularities in the disbursement and management of CDF. In fact, we have been consistent that the CDF policy or the increase in CDF allocations, Mr Hakainde Hichilema  and his league have been beating their chest about, will not solve this country’s pressing problems due to political patronage, corruption and inefficiency involved in this process. It is undisputable that there has been too much inducement, connivance, bribery, corruption and embezzlement in the utilization of CDF, and we are glad that the 2023 Auditor General’s report has vindicated us.

It was clear from the onset that Mr Hichilema and the UPND government’s CDF policy was merely for political patronage and stealing, and not to solve the numerous problems Zambians are facing today. We saw this early enough and cautioned Mr Hichilema and his league that this policy was not only a disaster for the country, but was bound to fail because constituencies across the country had no capacity to administer these huge resources.

On face value, CDF appears nice when cash is being thrown around carelessly but the truth is, it’s not taking us anywhere. It is merely a breeding ground for corruption, for all sorts of UPND crooks of different shapes and sizes. For instance, how can one explain the disbursement of K5.3 million to 373 beneficiaries whose identities remain unknown? How can the local authority disburse such huge amounts of cash to untraceable recipients, with no traceable business operations associated with them? just how can such huge sums of money be disbursed to individuals that were not on the list of beneficiaries?

The answer is simple: this was expected because the entire CDF policy is anchored on systematic corruption, embezzlement, inducement, bribery, connivance, and political patronage. The misapplication and thoughtless throwing of cash to UPND cadres under the guise of CDF allocations, is deliberate. It’s all planned! They have agreed to be recklessly dishing out taxpayer’s money amongst themselves whilst pretending to be lifting people’s burdens or fostering development, yet the principle objective is looting.

We insist that the CDF policy is a disaster and it will not have any meaningful impact on our already overburdened citizens. Whether they increase the CDF allocations a hundredfold, nothing will change. The statistics will keep showing that poverty is increasing exponentially countrywide.

CDF is a scam, and a conduit for corruption or simply put, CDF is a reward system designed by thieves, to recognize and motivate their fellow thieves. But this will backfire, and if they are not careful, many will go to prison over CDF once the UPND is out of office!

LUNGU UNHAPPY WITH HH FOR ALLOWING HIM TO LEAVE ZAMBIA

LUNGU UNHAPPY WITH HH FOR ALLOWING HIM TO LEAVE ZAMBIA

By Henry MWENJENGA

Opposition Tonse cooperative leader and Former Chawama member of parliament Edgar Lungu is extremely unhappy with the UPND government for allowing him leave Zambia without being stopped at the Airport.

Lungu’s plan B was to ensure that at the time the United Nations Human Rights visitor is getting into Zambia, he (Lungu) should be blocked at the airport in order to justify his claims that he was under house arrest.

But to his shock, no one has even paid attention to his clandestine movements much to his annoyance.

Meanwhile Lungu has released Two million Kwacha to be paid to rogue elements including some Christians for Lungu members to write fake emails and send them to the UN human Rights representative visiting Zambia with the view of dissuade and misrepresentation of facts.

Among the lies therein include lies such as America Two (Francis Muchemwa) was jailed unlawfully, Chief insulting boy WHY ME was unlawfully taken to jail and all.

In the same messages, Edgar Lungu and his cronies want to lie that corruption fight is only targeted at him and that he and his family did not steal despite him giving his child over 70 vehicles as birthday presents, giving his married girlfriend Faith Musonda millions and millions of dollars and Kwacha.

The UN human rights rep is in Zambia to appreciate how the UPND government is managing to fight corruption while allowing the opposition to campaign freely.

Starting tomorrow, the UN rep will be interacting with different groups including singers, opposition, church and off course those that have never wanted HH to be President will present lies.

If Lungu and his PF cronies were in power, the UN rep was going to be sent away right at the Airport actually like they did to several others including sending away USA Ambassador and also Julius Malema, Mmusi Maimane of South Africa among others.

While abroad, Lungu will meet his former financiers and will also ensure that money he is keeping in his offshore accounts moves into Zambia for funding chaos.

Investigations conducted by Koswe have also revealed that Lungu may stay out of Zambia longer than usual including his wife who may go to their Dubai home.

So far, Lungu has sent all his children out of Zambia and it was only him and Esther who were remaining.- Koswe

UN SECRETARY GENERAL STILL HAVE THE COMPLAINT REGARDING PF VIOLENCE

UN SECRETARY GENERAL STILL HAVE THE COMPLAINT REGARDING PF VIOLENCE

Patriotic Front’s Hypocrisy on Human Rights an insult to the memory of those who suffered under their regime.

Fellow countrymen and women, it has come to my attention that the Patriotic Front (PF), our former ruling party, is advancing plans to report the current government under President Hakainde Hichilema to the United Nations (UN) for alleged human rights violations. While it is within their rights to raise concerns, it is critical to remind them and the nation of the legacy of violence and corruption they left behind

The PF’s governance was marred by numerous human rights abuses and acts of violence that claimed the lives of innocent Zambians. The United Nations Secretary-General’s office still holds my active official complaint, submitted in 2021, which details these abuses. This complaint names victims and implicates specific government officials from the PF era. Ironically, Professor Nkandu Luo, who now leads the PF’s campaign, is among those reported to the UN Human Rights Commission before the case was escalated to the Secretary-General.

A few months ago, I engaged with the UN to address misleading narratives about Zambia’s current human rights situation. The UN team, which was highly cooperative, provided factual insights contradicting claims being propagated. I also offered my assistance in providing accurate information about Zambia’s progress in human rights, contrasting where we were under the PF and where we stand today.

The PF must confront its own chaotic and lawless legacy. One glaring example is Shebby Chilekwa, who brutally murdered Lawrence Banda in 2016 but was shielded by the PF leadership, including then-President Edgar Lungu. Chilekwa remained free until the change of government. Bringing individuals like Chilekwa to justice is not a violation of human rights it is a demonstration of justice. It is laughable that those who enabled such crimes now portray themselves as victims. In countries where leadership integrity is paramount, Mr. Lungu would face serious consequences for harboring criminals like Shebby. Are these the people the UN should entertain?

Sadly, even the UPND government has fallen short in addressing all the violence engineered by the PF. There are still unresolved cases, such as the killings of Nsama Nsama, Vespers, Obed Bwalya, Joseph Kaunda, Kennedy Mudenda, Malesu Mukonka, Frank Mugala, Mapenzi Chibulo and all those who perished in the gassing. Independent police officers know who committed these crimes, yet justice remains elusive. Many more victims died under the PF’s violent reign, and while I commend the UPND for some of their actions, more needs to be done to hold these perpetrators accountable to ensure that we don’t go back to this nightmare again.

Caging individuals who looted public resources is not a violation of human rights; rather, it is a step toward justice. When public officials embezzle funds, they indirectly harm millions by denying them access to essential services like healthcare, education, and food security. Prosecuting such individuals is not just legal it is moral. If ministers like Chitotela and Chilangwa were found guilty of burning other people’s property, it speaks volumes about the low caliber of leadership that governed under the PF administration. This behavior explains why thuggery and lawlessness flourished, as those in power set a poor example. Even former President Edgar Lungu openly admitted at one point that thugs were an integral part of his leadership.

Furthermore, I have urged the UN to begin addressing Zambia’s human rights violations starting from 2015 to 2021, during the PF’s time in power. Only after these cases have been fully addressed can we evaluate any alleged violations from 2021 to date. Let’s see if those crying foul today can withstand such scrutiny.

The PF’s attempt to rewrite history and position themselves as victims is not only hypocritical but also an insult to the memory of those who suffered under their regime. The international community must recognize this ploy for what it is a desperate attempt to divert attention from their own atrocities.Zambia deserves justice, not a circus of fabricated narratives. Let us remain vigilant and ensure that the truth prevails.

The Paradox of Leadership: Nepotism, Tribalism, and Meritocracy in Zambia – Linda Banks

The Paradox of Leadership: Nepotism, Tribalism, and Meritocracy in Zambia

Linda Banks Writes ✍️ ©️

In a nation as richly diverse as Zambia, leadership is more than just governance—it is the art of uniting disparate cultures, tribes, and regions under a common purpose. Unfortunately, President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent appointments have stirred a storm of public opinion, dividing the nation and raising critical questions about the balance between meritocracy, nepotism, and tribalism in Zambia’s leadership.

At the center of this controversy is the appointment of retired Supreme Court Justice Evans Hamaundu as Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Board. What should have been a celebrated step in the fight against corruption has instead been marred by accusations of tribal favoritism and nepotism. Skeptics argue that Hamaundu’s appointment is just one of many that reflect a troubling pattern of regionalism in Zambia’s governance.

Justice Hamaundu’s appointment has been met with both applause and condemnation. Critics highlight unresolved corruption allegations against him and his controversial judicial decisions, such as his refusal to register the Fredrick Chiluba Zamtrop London judgment, which might have recovered millions in plundered resources. Furthermore, his close association with President Hichilema has sparked claims that the appointment was based more on personal ties than merit.

This trend is not isolated. Observers have pointed out that President Hichilema’s appointments disproportionately favor individuals from Tonga-speaking regions and North-Western and Southern Provinces, with a few Lozi appointments from Western Province. For instance, the appointment of Greenwell Malumani to the judiciary and Kenneth Mulife to the Constitutional Court followed similar patterns, raising concerns about a systemic bias toward certain regions.

When appointments are perceived as biased toward specific tribes or regions, the consequences can be dire. Regionalism erodes national unity, brings up resentment among marginalized groups, and undermines public trust in government institutions. This is particularly dangerous in Zambia, where ethnic diversity should be a strength, not a point of division.

Historically, countries like Rwanda under Habyarimana and Nigeria under various military regimes have shown how regional favoritism can lead to unrest, even conflict.

However, Singapore’s transformation under Lee Kuan Yew is a testament to the power of meritocracy. By prioritizing competence and inclusivity over nepotism, Singapore emerged from poverty to become a global economic powerhouse within three decades.

Countries that have embraced meritocracy have reaped substantial benefits:

1. Singapore (1965–1990): Under Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore invested in education and infrastructure, appointing the most qualified individuals to key positions regardless of ethnicity. Within 25 years, the country transformed from a struggling port city to a global hub for finance and technology.

2. South Korea (1960s–1980s): South Korea’s focus on industrialization and education, paired with a merit-based public service, lifted the nation from poverty to become one of the world’s leading economies.

3. Botswana (Post-1966): Unlike Zambia, Botswana utilized its diamond wealth effectively, emphasizing good governance and merit-based appointments. Today, it is one of Africa’s most stable and prosperous nations.

Despite its abundant natural resources, Zambia remains entrenched in poverty, with GDP per capita lagging behind peers. Why? The answer lies in poor governance, corruption, and tribal politics that prioritize personal connections over national development. For instance, the appointment of board members and directors in Zambia’s major institutions often reflects regional biases:

• Energy Sector: Former Permanent Secretary Francesca Zyambo, a Tonga, was replaced amid allegations of favoritism.

• Judiciary: Judges such as Kenneth Mulife and Greenwell Malumani have been linked to regional favoritism.

• Electoral Commission of Zambia: Critics argue that appointments lean heavily toward individuals from Southern, Western and North-Western Provinces.

Zambia’s leadership must learn from nations like Singapore and Botswana. To achieve this, the following steps are imperative:

1. Transparent Appointment Processes: Key government roles should be filled through competitive, transparent procedures.

2. Meritocracy Over Regionalism: Appointments must prioritize qualifications, not tribal affiliations.

3. Public Accountability: Institutions like the ACC must demonstrate independence and integrity to regain public trust.

4. Inclusivity in Governance: Leaders must ensure that all regions and tribes feel represented in national decision-making.

President Hichilema faces a critical test. His legacy will depend on whether he can bridge Zambia’s regional divides and restore public faith in government institutions. Tribalism and nepotism are seductive short-term strategies, but they are corrosive to national unity and progress. Zambia’s future lies in inclusivity, meritocracy, and the shared commitment to building a better nation for all its citizens.

The parallels between Zambia’s current trajectory and the failures of other nepotistic regimes are too frightening to ignore. But so too are the lessons from countries that have risen above such divisions.

The choice is clear, will Zambia rise to the challenge? Or will it continue to stumble under the weight of tribalism and regionalism? Well, as the British say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating . So, I guess only time will tell.

ACC Requires Institutional Reforms and Not Individual Courage Alone

By Ali M Joseph

Emmanuel Mwamba, let me rebuttal and Summarize some disagreements and offer an opinion as a newly minted lawyer here in Texas because I understand international law.

Dr. O’Brian Kaaba’s reflections on the ACC board and the new appointments raise key points about integrity, past challenges, and expectations. However, several aspects of his argument warrant a critical rebuttal:

1. The Issue of Judicial Decisions
Kaaba expresses concern over Judge Evans Hamaundu’s past rulings, particularly regarding the London High Court judgment on Chiluba and the Public Order Act case.

While judicial decisions can be scrutinized, it is unfair to judge a new appointee based solely on two rulings without considering the broader context of his judicial career. Courts interpret the law based on existing statutes and precedents, and disagreement with a ruling does not necessarily indicate bias or lack of integrity.

2. The Fight Against Corruption: Then vs. Now
Kaaba emphasizes that the ACC board he served on was dedicated to fighting both past and present corruption. However, he acknowledges that they “hit a brick wall,” which raises the question: If the previous board faced such challenges, why assume the new board will have an easier path?

The implication that past efforts were purely hindered by external forces, while the new appointees must prove their worth, seems contradictory.

Additionally, he suggests that fighting past corruption is easier than tackling current corruption. While this is partially true due to power dynamics, it overlooks the role of institutions in strengthening investigative and prosecutorial mechanisms regardless of the political climate. The real challenge is systemic reform, not just individual courage.

3. Scrutiny, Allowances, and Public Perception

Kaaba defends his board against accusations of being compromised, pointing out that allowances were minimal and that their efforts were often misunderstood. However, public trust in anti-corruption bodies is shaped by outcomes, not just intentions. If the ACC failed to make significant strides during his tenure, public skepticism is not entirely unwarranted.

Similarly, while he warns that the new board will face criticism, this is part of public accountability, not necessarily an unjustified attack.

4. The President’s Commitment vs. Institutional Independence

Kaaba highlights President Hakainde Hichilema’s stance that no corrupt official should be protected. While this is a strong statement, it is ultimately the independence of the ACC, not presidential directives, that will determine the success of anti-corruption efforts. The ACC should not be perceived as an extension of the executive but as an autonomous body that holds all administrations accountable, past and present.

Summary of Disagreements

1. Judicial Record: Judge Hamaundu should not be pre-judged solely based on two past rulings. Judicial decisions are complex and based on legal interpretations, not personal preferences.

2. Effectiveness of Past ACC Board: While Kaaba defends his tenure, the lack of major breakthroughs suggests institutional constraints rather than just external resistance. The same challenges may face the new board.

3. Public Perception and Accountability: Criticism of the ACC is not necessarily unwarranted. Public trust is built on visible action and results.

4. Presidential Commitment vs. Institutional Independence: The ACC’s success should be measured by its impartiality and autonomy, not just alignment with the President’s statements.

Final Thought

The fight against corruption in Zambia is an evident ongoing battle requiring strong institutions, unlike in ECL led PF government. The fight is for courageous individuals but all concerned citizens for a better Zambia. While Kaaba raises valid concerns, his assessment of the new board should allow space for fair judgment based on future performance rather than pre-existing skepticism.

role in the transformation of organizations by providing governance oversights and strategic
direction.

She said the progress made by the outgoing board, aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s
agenda to awaken Zambia.

“One of the notable achievement is the impressive growth of NAPSA’s investment portfolio which
has increased from K54. 5 billion at the end of 2021 to K87.4 Billion by the end of 2024, plus the

Brighton Defeat Unacceptable — Amorim Blasts Manchester United Players

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has described the 3-1 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday as unacceptable, demanding an immediate response from the team.

The Red Devils suffered their 10th Premier League loss of the season and a sixth defeat at home to further compound their woes at Old Trafford.

Yakubu Minteh gave the visitors the lead in the fifth minute before Bruno Fernandes equalised in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot.

Kauro Mitoma made it 2-1 in the 60th minute before Georginio Rutter took advantage of Andre Onana’s error to make it 3-1.

Manchester United looked to have turned a corner after encouraging results against Liverpool and Arsenal and a last-minute win over Southampton, but the performance against Brighton was disappointing.

Amorim didn’t hide his disappointment at the end of the encounter, blaming the players for conceding unnecessary goals.

He said, “Another loss at home. It’s not acceptable the way we suffered the goals.

“We can play some football but [only] in small spaces of time, so it’s not consistent and we get nervous and then we suffer a goal. Again, in the beginning, it’s one play that is clearly what Brighton does. Then it’s hard to turn things around. We got anxious and nervous, and they were better again.

“Brighton were comfortable. We tried [to get back into it] but with not very good football. You can see this game and remember Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest, where we were in the game and suffered goals where we cannot suffer. Then it’s hard for everybody. We lost again at home; it’s not acceptable. We need to change that and change fast.”

Amorim reiterated that he is not going to change his style in a bid to turn the club’s fortunes around, saying that the players will have to suffer to get results.

He said, “That is clear. Because I’m not going to change the way I see the game. I’m very clear on that. The players are going to suffer; I’m sorry, the fans are going to suffer. I have one way of doing things; I know it’s going to [bring] results. But we have to suffer these moments. I think it’s very clear for everybody what we are going to do.”

TikToker Faces Animal Cruelty Charges After Forcing A Fish To Drink Beer In Viral Video

A TikToker from Johannesburg is being sued by the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA), which has taken a firm stand against animal cruelty after causing widespread public outrage. In a controversial video that quickly went viral, the content creator was seen force-feeding beer to a fish, an act that many found deeply disturbing.

The shocking footage shows the man holding a fish and pouring beer into its mouth while laughing. In another video part, he forces two fish to “kiss” for amusement. These actions have drawn harsh criticism from social media users, animal welfare groups, and the general public alike.

NSPCA Takes Legal Action

The NSPCA has identified the individual responsible and is preparing to lay charges under South Africa’s Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962. The organization’s spokesperson, Jacques Peacock, confirmed their intent to pursue criminal charges, emphasizing that such acts of cruelty carry serious legal consequences.

“The NSPCA will be filing criminal charges against the individual seen in the video force-feeding beer to a common carp,” said Jacques Peacock.

The penalties for violating the act may include imprisonment, fines, or a suspended sentence, depending on the severity of the offence.

[WATCH] It ended in tears for a Johannesburg TikToker now facing charges after a viral video showed him force-feeding beer to a fish. The NSPCA condemned the act as animal cruelty and is pursuing charges under the Animals Protection Act.

Animal Cruelty as Entertainment: A Troubling Trend
This incident is part of a growing trend of animal cruelty videos appearing on social media platforms like TikTok. Peacock noted that such content often requires extensive time and effort from inspectors to investigate and bring offenders to justice.

In a similar case from October 2023, a python was filmed being forced to drink beer, though the culprits were never identified.

TikToker Faces Backlash and Legal Consequences
According to Independent Online, the TikToker has admitted that the animal cruelty video was intended as a joke. However, this admission has done little to quell the public’s anger. Many social media users have condemned his actions, calling for accountability and justice for the harm inflicted on the animals.

Encouraging Respect for Animal Welfare
The NSPCA hopes this case will warn others who might consider exploiting animals for entertainment. The organization also praised the public for their strong stance against the video, highlighting the growing awareness of the need to treat all animals, including fish, with compassion and respect.

“We are encouraged by the outpouring of support for animal welfare, which demonstrates that people care deeply about preventing cruelty to all living creatures,” Peacock added.

Dwayne Johnson urges his fans to fix broken bonds with their fathers on anniversary of dad’s death

American actor and former wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has shared a heartfelt message encouraging his fans to mend strained relationships with their parents.

The message came on the fifth anniversary of the death of his father, Rocky “Soulman” Johnson.

In an Instagram post shared on Thursday morning, Johnson reflected on his complicated relationship with his father, who passed away at age 75 in 2020.

The actor admitted he was not on good terms with his father at the time of his death, but knowing he could have made it all go away still weighs on him. “I woke up yesterday feeling weird,” Johnson said in the black-and-white video.

“It hit me that I never got the chance to make things right with my dad, and it’s something I still carry.” He recalled an explosive argument he had with his father on Christmas Eve, only three weeks before his passing.

Despite their differences, Johnson stated that he believes all fathers love their children, even if they show it in limited or complicated ways. “I know there are a lot of guys out there who don’t have the best relationships with their dads,” Johnson said, particularly to his male followers.

“But don’t wait too long to squash the beef. You never know how much time you have left.”

In the video, the actor shared words of wisdom and urged viewers to watch the clip until the end as he opened up about his regrets and the lessons he’s learned from the experience.

When Rocky Johnson died in 2020, WWE announced the news, with Dwayne paying an emotional tribute which read: “I grew to become a man realizing you had other deeply complicated sides that needed to be held and understood.”

Rocky Johnson is a WWE Hall of Famer and edged his name in history as a trailblazer in the wrestling world after he became one of the first Black champions in WWE history.

His legacy continues to influence his son, Dwayne, who often reflects on their relationship and the lessons he learned from their time together.

Dwayne Johnson’s message to his fans is simple, to cherish their parents and prioritize healing strained relationships before it is too late.

CURFEW AND DEATHS IN SOUTH SUDAN AFTER REVENGE ATTACKS ON SUDANESE

CURFEW AND DEATHS IN SOUTH SUDAN AFTER REVENGE ATTACKS ON SUDANESE

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has called for calm and urged citizens not to take the law into their own hands, following a spate of attacks on businesses and homes owned by people from neighbouring Sudan.

Three people have been killed and seven were wounded in violent confrontations with security officers in the capital, Juba, and the north-western town of Aweil, say police. Their nationalities have not been disclosed.

Three houses belonging to Sudanese nationals were set on fire in Aweil, according to officers.

On Friday, a dusk-to-dawn curfew was announced to try to bring tensions under control.

Nobody will be allowed out on the streets between 18:00 and 06:00 local time [16:00 and 04:00 GMT] so as to “prevent any violations of public and private property,” said Insp Gen Abraham Manyuat Peter.

A second police source told the BBC that officers rescued 45 Sudanese traders in Juba who are now receiving protection at a police station.

South Sudan broke away from Sudan to form an independent country in 2011 after a long-running civil war, but more recently, growing numbers of Sudanese people are fleeing into South Sudan to escape the latest conflict.

Sudan has become the world’s worst humanitarian crisis since the country’s warring generals first turned on each other in April 2023. Half of the population – roughly 25 million people – are in dire need of food and aid, says the UN.

Recent footage showing alleged Sudan soldiers killing South Sudanese civilians appears to show Wad Madani city, the capital of Gezira State in central Sudan within the past few days.

President Salva Kiir of South Sudan said what happened in Wad Madani was a heinous and “unacceptable” crime. He urged Sudan’s government to protect South Sudanese citizens trapped there, and to investigate the killings with the help of international humanitarian organisations.

Rights groups confirmed that at least 13 – including some children – were killed there because of their ethnicity. The Sudanese army says it has ordered an investigation into the reports.

Darker-skinned people say that racism is endemic in Sudan, and targeted attacks on these communities by lighter-skinned Arab fighters happening today in places such as Gezira and Darfur have a long precedent.

Slave raids were widely reported to have continued until the end of the civil war in 2005, which led to the mainly black African South Sudan seceding from Arabic-speaking Sudan six years later.

There is no one who makes money by being an ACC Commissioner. The sitting allowance during our time was K1,500 – Dr. O’Brian Kaaba

0

A COMMENT ON THE NEW ACC LEADERSHIP

Dr. O’Brian Kaaba Wrote;

I would like to first pay tribute to our former ACC Board chairperson, Mr Musa Mwenye SC. It was a great honour to serve with him. He demonstrated great patriotism, fearlessness, rare commitment to the fight against corruption and strong sense of autonomy.

Under his leadership, we brought great stability to the institution and enhanced its credibility. His passion for the job was palpable and unapparelled.

I also served with dedicated colleagues, Mrs Irene Lamba, Pastor Tommy Namitondo and Dr Mbushi. We were resolved to fighting both past and present corruption. Each one of them can confirm that despite hitting a brick wall, we were dedicated to fighting corruption and to protecting no one.

Coming to the new appointments, the only person I know personally is Nalucha. She has the courage and capacity to stick out her head for her strong beliefs in good governance and she has an excellent record in the good governance sector. For others, I only know them through the press or their publicly available records.

I could perhaps in passing comment on the new chairperson picking, Judge Evans Hamaundu. I have not had any personal interaction with him so I do not know him at an individual level. Those who know him say, at personal level, he is a man of admirable integrity.

That is a good attribute to bring to the Commission. My knowledge of him is through reading his judgments and I think there are two troubling judgments in the area of public interest.
1. The first is his judgment refusing to register the London High Court judgment which found that former President Fredrick Chiluba and his colleagues had defrauded the Zambian government of more than US$40million. You may recall that Professor Muna Ndulo had written a brilliant and well researched amicus brief supporting the registration of the judgment which was treated with contempt. Against clear statutory law, established precedents and common sense, the Judge declined the application and the judgment was never registered.

2. The Second one is his decision, in the case brought by LAZ, challenging the constitutionality of some provisions in the Public Order Act. The judge and (and the bench he sat with) did not see anything wrong with those provisions. Both cases are an extreme example of state-centric adjudication and judged from that, he has an uphill challenge to convince the citizens that his approach at the helm of the ACC will be different.

This is important because ACC primarily targets high level corruption often committed by the powerful and those in government. The President has consistently indicated that no corrupt official in his government should be protected from investigation and prosecution. It is the role of the ACC to actualize that.
Overall, I admire their collective courage to accept to serve on the ACC board.

It is a thankless task. Contrary to popular views, there is no one who makes money by being an ACC Commissioner. At least not during our time. The sitting allowance during our time was K1,500.

Right from the beginning when we were appointed, our team resolved that we were not going to ask for any adjustment to our conditions of service as we simply wanted to provide a dedicated public service, and we stuck to that.

The new appointees must be prepared to be scrutinized and insulted for nothing in return. During my term there, for example, Sishuwa Sishuwa wrote about three articles claiming that government had bought us into silence. It is such a petty and uninformed view because within the ACC we were working tirelessly to do the right thing.

The more we pushed hard the more we endangered our lives and created enemies both in the past regime and new officials in government. I believe the new colleagues will face similar challenges, unless they choose to let sleeping dogs lie.

It is relatively easy to fight past corruption as former government officials are a lame duck since they no longer wield any power. The real test of their commitment, as our former chairperson Musa Mwenye SC has repeatedly stated, is if they will have the courage to take head on the current corruption.

The President has repeatedly said that he is committed to letting no one in his government escape accountability. It is the mandate of the new colleagues to actualize that and ensure no one is spared.

PF PRESIDENT URGES UNITY AND SUPPORT FOR HICHILEMA, CALLS FOR POSITIVE POLITICS AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

PF PRESIDENT URGES UNITY AND SUPPORT FOR HICHILEMA, CALLS FOR POSITIVE POLITICS AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

18th January 2025

Patriotic Front President Robert Chabinga has called on opposition political parties to actively support President Hakainde Hichilema and recognize the strides he has made for the Zambian people. During his remarks at the burial procession of Mwanshelela Nkulukusa, son of Central Province Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa, held in Chibombo District, Chabinga urged politicians to refrain from disseminating falsehoods about the government and instead focus on the positive developments that have taken place under Hichilema’s leadership.

Chabinga emphasized the importance of reserving political debates for the upcoming elections in 2026, encouraging a unified effort towards development in the interim. He highlighted the critical advancements made by the New Dawn government, including the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) initiatives, debt restructuring efforts, social cash transfers, and increased access to free education.

He expressed concern over politicians who, despite witnessing these improvements, continue to downplay or dismiss them. “Unfounded arguments and negativity in politics can be detrimental,” Chabinga remarked, cautioning that such behavior could have serious consequences for individuals’ health.

Addressing Members of Parliament, Chabinga urged them to collaborate and work inclusively for the benefit of their constituents, emphasizing their duty to serve the public. He advised against forming small groups centered around individual agendas, as this was a contributing factor to the Patriotic Front’s previous loss of power due to internal divisions and selfish interests.

Chabinga further addressed recent allegations regarding his relationship with the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), asserting that he has not been influenced or bought by the party. He reiterated his commitment to former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu in 2015, stating that his support was genuine and devoid of any illegal undertakings which is evidenced by the absence of any police inquiries against him.

Chabinga concluded his address by emphasizing the need for constructive engagement in politics, urging all Zambians to look beyond partisan divides for the collective progress of the nation.@M.G

NEWLY CONSTITUTED ACC BOARD RECEIVES ALLIANCE PARTNER BACK UP

NEWLY CONSTITUTED ACC BOARD RECEIVES ALLIANCE PARTNER BACK UP.

18 January 2025

Lusaka – National Democratic Congress (NDC) President Joseph Kasonde has commended the appointment of the new Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) board, describing it as a crucial milestone in Zambia’s ongoing fight against corruption.

Addressing the press this morning at Longacres Lodge, Mr. Kasonde emphasized that corruption deprives citizens of essential opportunities and undermines national development.

Furthermore, he called for the implementation of stricter penalties for offenders, arguing that this would act as a strong deterrent to those tempted by corrupt practices.

On the political front, Mr. Kasonde reaffirmed his party’s unwavering support for its alliance partner, the United Party for National Development (UPND), in the forthcoming by-elections for Petauke Central and Pambashe constituencies.

He asserted that recent electoral victories reflect growing public trust in the new dawn government.

Moreover, he underscored that the alliance remains focused on achieving electoral success rather than engaging in political vendettas.

In a significant appeal for national unity, Mr. Kasonde urged former President Edgar Lungu to reconcile with President Hakainde Hichilema and gracefully retire from active politics.

To this end, the NDC leader called upon the church to mediate this reconciliation process, drawing parallels with the late First President Kenneth Kaunda’s willingness to heed similar advice in 1991.

According to Mr. Kasonde, fostering peace and stability is imperative for Zambia’s sustained development.

Turning to internal party matters, the NDC leader issued a stern warning against disruptive behavior within party structures. He pledged to enforce disciplinary measures against errant members to safeguard the party’s integrity.

Additionally, he announced key appointments, including Patibeso Banda as Chairman Legal, Andrew Mwanza as Deputy Secretary General, and Christopher Katepu as Party Spokesperson.

Lastly, Mr. Kasonde further  emphasized  the collective responsibility of all Zambians to work toward national peace, unity, and progress. He highlighted that only through unity can the country achieve its developmental goals.

GOVERNMENT CALLS FOR CONTINUED PEACE IN PAMBASHE BY-ELECTION

GOVERNMENT CALLS FOR CONTINUED PEACE IN PAMBASHE BY-ELECTION

Government has appealed to the people of Pambashe Constituency to uphold peace and unity as they head into the forthcoming parliamentary by-election.

Speaking at Mushota Secondary School during a meeting with political stakeholders, Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, underscored the importance of maintaining peace during this critical period.

“Peace, love, and unity are the cornerstone of political developments,” Mr. Ngoma said.

Mr Ngoma charged that a stable and harmonious environment is essential for meaningful progress and democracy to thrive.

He lamented the history of violence in politics, stating that the use of pangas and violent confrontations must remain a thing of the past.

“That era went with the political parties that embraced violence over ideologies. We are in a new political dispensation where ideas, not weapons, lead the way,” he said.

Mr. Ngoma reminded the gathering of President Hakainde Hichilema’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace, love, and unity.

“President Hichilema has been consistent in his speech, preaching peace, love, and unity under our national motto, ‘One Zambia, One Nation.’ We must ensure that these values are championed not just during elections but every day,” he emphasized.

He further called on the people of Pambashe to set an example of peaceful conduct and to vote for progress in the by-election.

“Let us emulate the people of Kawambwa Central Constituency, who have demonstrated their commitment to development under the UPND government. Together, we can achieve meaningful change,” Mr. Ngoma said.

Mr. Ngoma also took time to commend the residents of Kawambwa for their efforts in advancing agriculture.

“Thank you for taking full advantage of the good rains received in your area to champion agricultural development. Your dedication to farming is a shining example of how communities can transform their livelihoods,” he said.

Meanwhile, the UPND’s adopted candidate for Pambashe, Justin Kapema, assured residents of his dedication to serving them if elected.

“I pledge to work hand-in-hand with the people of Pambashe to bring development and address the challenges facing this constituency. Together, we can build a brighter future,” Mr. Kapema said.

The meeting was also attended by several UPND officials who accompanied Mr. Ngoma on his visit to the area.
