Former US president Donald Trump has got social media users rolling on the floor with laughter after a video of dancing at a rally emerged on social media.

While Trump is a polarizing figure known for many things, dancing is certainly not one of his strengths. The trending video, which has users across platforms in stitches, serves as clear proof of the former president’s less-than-graceful moves on the dance floor.

The viral video of former U.S. President Donald Trump dancing at a recent rally has social media users buzzing with a mix of amusement and bewilderment. Netizens widely found Trump’s dance moves, as well as the sheer confidence he exuded while performing them, to be quite hilarious. Some social media commentators went as far as to suggest that Trump should consider taking some dancing lessons in order to improve his questionable dance moves.

After revealing his meager streaming revenue, Snoop Dogg is auctioning his memorabilia, including his master recording tapes

Snoop Dogg is exploring another avenue for building wealth and profit from his legacy. The rapper, who has been very critical of the streaming industry and how little it compensates artists, is auctioning his memorabilia, including his master recording tapes.

He recently shared that he received less than $45,000 after reaching a billion streams on Spotify. Sharing insights into the economics of streaming, he noted, “In the streaming world, I can show you right now. They just sent me some sh-t from Spotify, where I got a billion streams, right? My publisher hit me.

“Can somebody explain to me how you get a billion streams and not get a million dollars? That sh-t don’t make sense to me. That’s the main gripe with a lot of us artists is that we do major numbers with streams but it don’t add up to the money,” Snoop Dogg said during his appearance as a panelist at the 2023 Milken Institute Global Conference.

In this regard, the rapper is collaborating with sports-and-music auction house The Realest to auction off items through a project titled “The Shiznit.”

According to Variety, the items to be auctioned include photos, Playstations, production books, autographed TV scripts, platinum discs, autographed jackets and jerseys, master recording tapes (excluding copyrights), and an autographed Death Row Records chain.

“The items he is putting up are iconic,” Scott “DJ Skee” Keeney, who created The Realist, told Variety. “Everything from lyrics, awards — like ‘Pimp of the Year’! — unreleased tapes, outfits, sample toys, photos, scripts, concert riders, even a Snoop-authenticated smoked blunt in a crazy display case and ashtray.”

“This is shit that we have, but we didn’t know it was worth something,” Snoop said. The auction is ongoing and will conclude on June 2, 2024.

Selling of music memorabilia is gradually becoming a booming business, Variety noted. It said the Gibson J-160E acoustic guitar on which John Lennon wrote several Beatles songs sold for $2.5 million. Bob Dylan also sold his 1965 “Like a Rolling Stone” handwritten lyrics for $2 million, it added.

In addition to music, Snoop has made a career in movies, starring in several films and producing as well. He also came to have several commercial endorsements, including Boost Mobile, Chrysler 200, Orbit Gum, and St. Ides.

He recently acquired the brand name rights to Death Row Records. According to him, the move was an “extremely meaningful moment for me,” and he was looking forward to “building the next chapter” of the record label.

Mozambique Army exposes ISM’s plans to attack South Africa

For the past weeks, the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (FADM) have been conducting operations to find hidden cells and hideouts of Ahlu Sunna wal-Jama’a, also known as Islamic State Mozambique (ISM).

These terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) group in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province are notorious for raiding and burning entire towns, beheading civilians, and attacking security forces.

In February and March, Ahlu Sunna wal-Jama’a in southern Cabo Delgado province attacked 27 villages in four weeks.

In response, FADM is conducting special military operations.

Scouring is also being carried out outside Cabo Delgado province, where the militants are particularly strong.

As a result of the search, the Armed Forces discovered a cache of weapons and some papers near Malala in Nampula province.

According to a security analyst Gamal Abina who received images from a FADM fighter at the location of the cache, the documents and photos found along with a large number of various weapons indicate the next steps of the Islamic State Mozambique (ISM) group.

It is likely that their plans include an invasion of South Africa, as photos and maps of government buildings in Pretoria make clear.

In addition, the cache with weapons is notable not only for the variety of arsenal and ammunition, but also for the maps with the address of PMC Dyck Advisory Group (DAG) and photos of its leaders found there.

It is known that the company is headed by Max Dyck, son of its founder, former Zimbabwean Colonel Lionel Dyck.

DAG was also involved in special operations in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, where it supported the Mozambican armed forces in the fight against Islamists.

Thus, the found Ahlu Sunna wal-Jama’a cache should be a subject of study for the intelligence services of South Africa, because the data from the documents found in the cache allow to conclude that the IGM targets the leadership of the South African PMC Dyck Advisory Group, taking part in counter-terrorist operations against Islamists in Mozambique.

According to Gamal Abina, the cache, found at a distance from the location of the most active cells of the ISM, suggests that some groups of terrorists may have already completed the planning of terrorist attacks in South Africa and now we should fear their active actions.

5-year-old only survivor in car crash that claimed the lives of his parents and siblings

A5-year-old boy is “expected to make a full recovery” after he got involved in a car crash that tragically took the lives of his parents and two brothers. Per FOX 5 Atlanta, the fatal multi-car crash happened on the I-75 in Bartow County, Georgia, on Sunday.

Noah, 5, together with his parents – 43-year-old Dakarai Mason and 35-year-old Erin Mason – as well as his two siblings – 14-year-old Brandon Crawford and 6-year-old Titus Mason – were traveling in a Kia van when the fatal incident occurred. A GoFundMe set up for the Masons states that the family of five was returning home from a church function when they got involved in the crash.

Authorities said Dakarai, Erin, and Brandon were pronounced dead at the scene. Titus and Noah survived the accident, but the former suffered critical injuries. Titus was pronounced dead on Wednesday and removed from life support, per the fundraiser.

“We thank you all for the outpouring of prayers, love, & support—it has been felt by the family & greatly appreciated in such a dark time,” the GoFundMe states. “Please continue to pray for us, for the other families touched by this tragedy, & for our little Noah who is going through the unimaginable loss of his entire immediate family. There are just no words for this hurt.”

The Georgia Department of Public Safety provided details about the fatal crash in a statement to PEOPLE. “Preliminary evidence at the scene indicates that a Kia van was traveling northbound on I-75 when, for reasons yet to be determined, it left the roadway, crossed the grass median, and entered the southbound lanes of I-75,” the statement said.

“The Kia van collided with a Chevy Tahoe and a Toyota 4Runner,” police also said. “Following this initial collision, the Kia van, and the Toyota 4Runner were struck by a commercial vehicle. Additionally, a Hyundai SUV struck the rear of the Chevy Tahoe.”

The individual driving the Toyota 4Runner, Aimee Odom, was also among the casualties, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Odom, 21, was headed to a graduation party when the crash happened. Two occupants of the Hyundai and the Chevy Tahoe driver were taken to the hospital.

FIND AND RETURN HON EMMANUEL JAYJAY BANDA NOW AND SAFELY -AMB. MWAMBA

..the Church should join with vigil prayers and members of the public must join the advocacy…

Lusaka-Sunday, May 26th, 2024

It has been over 24 hours since Petauke Central Independent Member of Parliament, Hon. Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda, was abducted and remains missing.

We noted a preliminary statement from the Zambia Police that raises more questions than answers.

Further, this matter comes shortly after the house of Mambilima MP, Hon. Jean Chisenga mysteriously caught fire and was entirely consumed.

Both Hon. Chisenga and Hon. Emmanuel JJ Banda have recently received public threats from the UPND leadership and cadres.

Hon. Emmanuel JJ Banda is a member of Parliament, a people’s representative, a sacred and revered position of significance in any nation in the world.

But we are rather surprised and shocked at the response by State House.

Instead of receiving a statement of concern about this sad development from President Hakainde Hichilema and State House, the nation has been subjected to dirty propaganda churned and spewed out by Koswe Media, owned and run by State House Press Analyst, Mr. Brian Mwiinga, and run largely by the State House Media team.

In their Pastoral Statement on the State of the Nation – November 2023, with a theme, “Hear O my people and I will admonish you…” Psalms 81:8, the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), among other things, advised President Hakainde Hichilema to close the rogue media organisations he was running at State House.

The ZCCB expressed concern that Hichilema’s rogue media were defaming persons and private citizens that left victims without recourse to the law or justice and this media was perpetrating dangerous propaganda that could harm and plunge the nation into chaos and lawlessness.

The call by the Bishops was met by more insults and ridicule by the State House rogue media.

Both the Zambia Police Inspector General of Police and ZICTA Director General have refused to deal with the rogue online pages run by State House.

How could they? They are helpless appointees of President Hichilema.

And true to these concerns, State House rogue media spent the whole night scandalising and defaming Hon Emmanuel JJ Banda and trashing the claims of his abduction.

Yet in this case, Hon. Banda is missing. His family is struck with fear of his where-abouts and are engaged in fervent prayer, praying for the safe return of their son, husband and father.

The State House rogue online newspapers have also been publishing articles that dissuade serious Police investigations and urging the Police to shift focus to their arch-enemy, former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

Further, there is a clear and deliberate campaign to play down the importance of this heinous crime committed against Hon. Emmanuel Banda as seen by the reporting by ZNBC, an institution that should be a public broadcaster.

Our call is that President Hichilema must lead in this matter and help with the immediate and safe return of Hon. Banda.

President Hichilema must direct all police and security agencies to join forces in investigating and seeking to establish the whereabouts of Hon. Banda.

The focus of everyone should be on the safe return of Hon. Banda and partisan politics must be cast away during this period of deep concerns.

It must be made very clear that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be caught, today, or tomorrow or in future and be brought before Justice.

Zambia now has installed surveillance cameras both public and private and on all toll gates and this must be a start for the Zambia Police investigating this matter.

We call upon our Members of Parliament to keep vigil on this matter and raise activities that should focus on the safe return of their colleague, a member of Parliament.

We also call upon the Church to conduct prayers of vigil for the life and safe return of the Hon. Banda.

We urge members of the public to join not only in prayers, but also in advocacy for the safe return of Hon. Banda.

UPND MUNALI CONSTITUENCY ASPIRING CANDIDATE LILLIAN MUTAMBO GOES FOR HER PARTY OVER THE ABDUCTION OF JAY JAY BANDA AND ATTACK ON CHISENGA

She Writes ✍️✍️

Good morning, I have never been a supporter of President Lungu this is a fact but this image says it all why The Mambilima MP’s house was b#rnt and now the Petauke MP is Missing.. Their association with Former President Edgar Lungu has made them the targ£Ts!! No one can tell me otherwise, the political party that is in power today in Zambia is filled with Bitterness, if you associate with ECL you suffer. Both Hon Chisenga and Hon JJ Banda have so much influence among the Youths so @ttacking them is to silence them.

Even though UPND formed government, their attitude and behaviour is like that of opposition. They have never worked all they do is blame ECL whilst they secretly give them selves mining licenses and are making money under the nose of Zambians. Their Manifesto promised the Youths heaven on earth and nothing has been done to empower the Youths especially those that worked for them. Go to the UPND secretariate you will weep. The youths that struggled for HH to become president, ri§King their lives beg for money daily, they have no jobs, No opportunities.

The truth is UPND is aware of the fact that in 2026 they will high likely loose their power and therefore in their plight of desperation they are trying to fix others in order to secure 2026. Power is sweet, they have tasted power after being in opposition for 25 years. UPND to me has proved that their aim to be in power was to av£nge ECL not to Govern! They have failed, totally failed, I said this in 2021 and my words have come to pass. Just the way many of us worked so hard to help them win the hearts of Zambians were treated so badly I knew that Zambianns would taste the wick£dness some of us experienced. Their hearts are too hard they can do anything to act holy yet they are not. I am glad Zambians have realised this and they are silent. They will discipline you in 2026

I couldn’t sleep, having spoken to some family members of Hon. Emmanuel Jay Banda you will weep, they are distressed.. UPND is good at Propaganda so right now they are channelling what happened to JJ Banda to his visits to his wives. From my observation, JJ was being trailed for a long time and they knew his nightly routine hence they captur£d him. The UPND associates are celebrating on social media as if what has happened is funny. Be careful with your mockery your 2026 even if you try you will lose. The more you behave like this the more many Zambians will open their eyes. Being back JJ Banda for the sake of peace, many are not speaking because they are in fear. Only those in the Diaspora are speaking.

Don’t assume because Zambians are silent that they are happy. I am connected to the grassroots, UPND is finished, they know this that is why they even had an emergency meeting last week trying to strategise. You think because we don’t talk about politics we don’t know anything. The ones who were even present give us such information. You are actually dining and betraying yourselves!

Release JJ Banda now, we want him back!!!

HH is an average President—Harry Kalaba

HH is an average President—Harry Kalaba

26.05.24

Harry Kalaba, the leader of Citizens First party has described Zambia´s President Hakainde Hichilema as an ´average person´ that bluffed himself into the topmost job in the country.

Kalaba said after being in office for almost three years wrought with broken campaign promises, Zambians can now see that Mr. Hichilema was ´all hot air´ and action, his word is not worth the paper he writes it on.

“All the promises he made about reducing mealie meal prices, reducing fuel and fertiliser prices have amounted to nothing,” said Kalaba in an interview on KBNTV.

“In my view President Hichilema is just an average politician whose promises don’t mean anything, don’t amount to anything even when his praise singers try to talk about free education and CDF it’s all non-truths…he is just average man, not an economic genius he told Zambians he is,” said Kalaba.

The long time serving former Foreign Affairs Minister also asked Mr. Hichilema to pike down and accord sixth President Edgar Lungu with more respect and less contempt.

Kalaba said the actions and statements Mr. Hichilema exhibits today to what he promised are different but appreciates that the ´true Hichilema´ has now been exposed to Zambians.
He said instead of pursuing President Lungu with all the venom he can summon, President Hichilema should save face and fulfil the promises of making the cost of living of Zambians fair and bearable, as Zambians sleep hungry every night.

A staunch Christian, Kalaba said it’s about time Zambia resumed being a Christian nation by practice and not rhetoric as seen under President Hichilema.

If given a chance to be president, Kalaba said Zambia would restore the dream of Zambia being a true Christian nation and restore the Ministry of religion desecrated and scrapped by Mr. Hichilema´s government.

He was speaking on the State of Nation programme with Kennedy Mambwe regarding the ever-shrinking democratic space in Zambia and rising poverty in the country.

He said the trend of disrespecting former heads of states such as Dr Lungu must end now because if it does not, Mr Hichilema himself shall endure the same predicament as his predecessor is unjustifiably facing.

Kalaba also reaffirmed the call for an early election made by Lungu and other politicians, “ we need an early election, we need an early election because Mr Hichilema has failed, we can’t wait for 2026.”

The full interview link is available on the KBNTV Facebook page featuring the UKA leading member and CF founder who wants Zambians to know that President is nothing ´average ‘as a leader and not an economic genius he said he was during campaigns.

Do not fall into the evil and bloody trap Hichilema and his UPND government have laid!- Azwell Banda

Do not fall into the evil and bloody trap Hichilema and his UPND government have laid!

By Azwell Banda

If you are an adult Zambian and have eyes to see, ears to hear, and a functioning brain to think, by now you know that Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND got into government by false pretences, by deception, and they are absolutely cold and unresponsive to the mass suffering they have unleashed upon the majority of Zambians.

You will also have seen and heard the contempt and arrogance with which Hichilema and his entire Cabinet and praise singers dismiss the cries of the majority of Zambians, for a lessening of their excruciating suffering. Any adult Zambian with a half functional brain by now understands that Hichilema and his UPND government are dangerously dividing Zambia by pitting the Zambezi region (Southern, Western and North Western provinces) against the rest of Zambia. Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND, contrary to their election promises, have planted their surrogates and sycophants to lead the Judiciary, Parliament, Executive, the armed forces, the crime investigating wings, the police, the Electoral Commission of Zambia, the Industrial Development Corporation, ZCCM-IH and all other key centres of political, economic and social power in Zambia. This way, they also create the false impression and illusions that Hakainde and his UPND imposter government are protecting, defending and advancing the interests of all the people of the Zambezi region. No, they are not. They are advancing their own personal pocket agendas, and those of their foreign backers.

You do not need to be a genius to understand that Zambia has two economies: one, for an extremely tiny filthy rich Zambian minority with its foreign backers which is centred largely on mining, energy and banking. The second Zambian economy is the one in which the majority of Zambians break their backs to eke out a living: the largely unregulated and extremely impoverishing small and medium enterprises dominated so-called “informal sector”.

The past 33 years of unbridled neo-liberal colonialism in Zambia has all but wiped out the formal economy the Kaunda regimes created, in Zambia. It is not surprising, therefore, that nine out of every 10 able bodied and fully qualified Zambians looking for formal work cannot find it, and six out of every 10 Zambians nationwide are extremely poor while eight out of every 10 Zambians in our rural areas are suffering historical levels of poverty.

It is not important whether your heart, brain, tongue and stomach come from the Zambezi region or from the rest of Zambia; or you are a cognitive dissonant praise singer of Hichilema and his UPND: in the past almost three years now of Hakainde Hichilema’s government you are starving, and your head is swelling from the permanent headaches induced by the historic massive high cost of living Hichilema has unleashed in Zambia. You now usually contemplate suicide as you float freely in and out of hunger and poverty induced insanity. Most now drown their sorrows in illicit unhealthy and very dangerous cheap alcohols and illegal drugs, and inter-personal violence.

Corruption and prostitution roam the land of Zambia freely. All kinds of criminal conduct and begging to secure food, rent, transport and a small basket of essential human goods is the order of the day, throughout the country.

The 12 hours or more electricity blackouts do not spare the Zambezi region: every Zambian and all other human beings currently in the entire country of Zambia are affected by these draconian and historic electricity load shedding which are clearly chaotically managed, by ZESCO.

The water crisis is countrywide too, including in the Zambezi region. The ever-rising high prices of maize meal, diesel, paraffin, petrol, electricity, charcoal, candles, gas, saladi, tomato, sugar, fish, meat, vegetables, and everything else do not discriminate: they hit every Zambian including those in the Zambezi region. The half of the country now hit the hardest by hunger include the Zambezi region. The 6.6 million Zambians now suffering famine are also from the Zambezi region.

Hichilema and his UPND government have not discriminated in their generous showering of hunger and poverty in Zambia: we are all suffering the same fate.
Immediately upon being ushered into government, Hichilema and his friends in government trebled their efforts to hand over Zambia’s finance, economic, social, governance and therefore full political sovereignty, to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank (WB), therefore to the US and its Western allies and our so-called “donors”.

Dubiously, and typical of the liars they are, Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND have falsely claimed theirs is a “home grown” sadistic economic and social austerity programme involving the sudden and rapid rise in the prices of maize meal, diesel, paraffin, petrol, electricity, charcoal, candles, gas, saladi, tomato, sugar, fish, meat, vegetables, and everything else essential and necessary for domestic and economic wellbeing, and national security of our country.

They have done this in order to protect and rehabilitate the extremely small economy in which they, being rich, live: the economy of large agriculture, mining, finance, tourism, manufacturing, construction, and energy.

Under the false pretence of promoting investments in the mining sector and others, while punishing the majority of already hungry and extremely poor Zambians with the cold, insensitive, uncaring, draconian and sudden withdrawal of government regulations and subsidies from diesel, paraffin, petrol, electricity and therefore directly causing the historic rise in the already high cost of living, Hakainde Hichilema and his friends in the UPND government have lavished upon themselves and their foreign backers massive government subsidies in government lost taxes in mining, agriculture, manufacturing, construction, tourism, energy and just about all the key sectors of the formal economy in which they exist and thrive.

As Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND political choir punish, mercilessly, the majority of Zambians throughout the country with hunger, poverty and the relentlessly rising already high cost of living, Hichilema and his UPND government have banned the opposition from holding mass political events to engage Zambians, while Hichilema continues to have his pathological craving for fake mass adulation satiated by government rented crowds throughout the country.

Nothing best confirms the deeply rooted contempt and hatred Hichilema and the UPND have for the majority of Zambians – all Zambians including those in the Zambezi region – than that as Hakainde and the entire UPND government punish the majority of Zambians with untold hunger and poverty, he wants Zambians, all Zambians, to praise him, to adore him, to love him like their saviour. Hichilema and the UPND government want Zambians to love them and praise them for the mass torture of hunger and untold poverty they have unleashed upon them. It is pure evil hearts only parasitic neo-colonial capitalism can breed, which beat in the hearts of Hichilema and his UPND government, and their praise singers.

In the last four articles on this column, I have irrefutably argued and demonstrated that Hakainde Hichilema has the worst Cabinet in Zambia’s history. I am right, absolutely right: only to the extent that the Hakainde Hichilema Cabinet has failed the majority of Zambians whom they hold in absolute contempt bordering on pathological hatred. Their sheer arrogance and contempt with which they dismiss the suffering and its complex causes of the majority of the people of Zambia is sufficient proof, of their arrogance, contempt and hatred of Zambia and Zambians; all Zambians including those in the Zambezi region.

There is a fatal flaw in my argument in the last four articles: Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND government Cabinet have demonstrated absolute commitment, thorough precision and virtuoso competence at law, policy and regulation formulation and their implementation in executing their instructions and commands from the IMF, WB, US, European Union, and Western donors. Hakainde and the UPND have successfully managed to secure for themselves a significant terminal cognitive dissonance praise singing choir and youth militant following, and they have, to a good extent, managed to manufacture an unshakable following from the Zambezi region. Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND have successfully managed to secure for themselves a chunk of zombie-like fake, parasitic intellectuals, academics and some elements in our civil society.

Hichilema has the US and the West’s backing, whose economic and political interests he is serving very well, in his torture of the majority of Zambians. Hichilema now has US military boots ready to defend his definition of “serious threats to Zambia’s national security” (read: “serious threats to US and Western foreign interests in Zambia”), through the deepened integration of the Zambian army and Zambian society into the US defence establishment including the USAID and US/AFCON.

There is only one piece missing: Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government must prove to their foreign masters that they are ready and willing to shed Zambian blood in defence of Western foreign interests in Zambia. Make no mistake about this: for the US and its Western allies, shedding blood and wars are just other means of making profits and securing their interests. Any politician unable to cross this line is not worthy their consistent and abiding support and “aid”. War and bloodshed are the largest economy for the US and the collective West. Just take a look at what is happening in Gaza and all occupied Palestinian lands if you doubt what I am saying.

It is absolutely unstrategic and wrong, knowing everything I have said above, for our opposition leaders to feed Hichilema and his UPND government innocent poor Zambian bodies, by massing such Zambian bodies in one place in an event the police have “advised” should not go ahead, for his extremely unprofessional, cowardly, Hakainde sycophant police command to beat up and kill, in order for Hichilema and his clearly sick UPND to prove to his foreign masters that he is able to “discipline Zambia and impoverished Zambians” on their behalf. There are smarter and infinitely more effective ways to fight and defeat Hakainde Hichilema, his UPND government and his foreign funders and backers, without falling into the trap they have set up to supply themselves Zambian impoverished bodies to physically savage and kill. This is the real challenge and urgent task confronting all Zambian freedom lovers, democrats, defenders of constitutional and lawful rule, and genuine peace lovers who also hate violence and war; especially capitalist and imperialist wars.

There is an infinite array of perfectly militant, extremely effective, mass and non-mass-based methods of fighting tin-pot dictators such as Hakainde Hichilema, his fraudulent UPND government and their foreign backers, without feeding them bodies to brutalise and kill. To invent and craft these methods and run with them is the urgent task of opposition political leaders and all Zambians of good will. Avoid massing thousands of Zambians in one place, organised by the opposition: this is a perfect gift to Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND! It is time to resist and fight, smartly, the political evil which is now freely roaming throughout our lands, with no, or minimum bloodshed.

Hichilema’s Cabinet is the worst in Zambia’s history: it is now possibly committing economic genocide – Pt 3

By Azwell Banda,

Last week on Friday, on this column, in Part 2 of this series of my articles on the “dream cabinet” of Hakainde Hichilema and the social and economic genocide they are collectively inflicting on the majority of Zambians, I said that Zambians are being bullied to suffer silently by the UPND government because if you complain, you are accused of being just lazy, lover of free things, uncontrollable breeder, lacking in entrepreneurial skills, you do not invest, are ignorant and need knowledge and wisdom presumably from Hichilema, and have a wrong mindset, among the many inferior human attributes you suffer from.

It is absolutely important to fight back, with everything we have got, those of us who desire a free, democratic, equal, fair and prosperous Zambia grounded in the rule of a genuine independent Zambian Constitution and Zambian laws, against this bullying, this savage attempt to silence all criticism of a man-god the UPND has fashioned for itself, in Hakainde Hichilema. Should we lose this fight, Zambia will be well on its way to becoming a full-blown dictatorship, a right-wing, extremely conservative and quite fascist state. The key signs of the approaching dictatorship are all there for all to see: violation of the Zambian Constitution and laws with impunity, by the UPND government, restriction of public political activities of opposition parties, the political and executive abuse of state law enforcement organs, the abuse of the judiciary and parliament, the interference by the government in the internal workings of the largest opposition parliamentary party, the marriage between large foreign businesses with the UPND government, Western diplomatic cover for the undemocratic and criminal conduct of the UPND government and so on.

What I did not say last Friday is that it has also become fashionable for the UPND government and its praise singers to accuse anyone who criticises Hakainde Hichilema, their man-god, of hatred of Hichilema. This blanket charge is more forcefully levelled at Patriotic Front (PF) leaders, members and sympathisers, and I have noticed, also at most people who either have names not prevalent in the “strongholds” of the UPND, such as mine, or are consistent critiques of undemocratic, unconstitutional and criminal conduct in government, such as Sishuwa Sishuwa. Usually, no serious effort is made to deal with the content, the substance of the criticism, rather, the person offering the criticism is abused and savaged so as to bully them into silence. Cyber bullying is freely tolerated by the UPND government when it is in its defence.

This primitive, unsophisticated and extremely backward treatment of individuals expressing themselves critically about the UPND and its man-god, Hichilema, extends to well meaning, knowledgeable, educated and very experienced professionals, politicians and supporters of the UPND, who are honest enough to accept when wrong things are done by Hichilema and the UPND. This bullying is therefore also inside the UPND itself, logically.

I too, have been falsely given PF membership (I suppose because I am “Banda”, I am therefore for Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the PF) and I have been accused of hating Hakainde Hichilema. And yet I have never been a member of the PF, and in fact when Hakainde Hichilema was foolishly and illegally detained by Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s PF government, I, together with others, even as I knew and understood that my morals, philosophy, ideology and politics are diametrically opposed to Hichilema and his UPND, organised international trade union and democratic solidarity events for Hichilema including protests at the Zambian missions such as the South African High Commission offices in Pretoria, in South Africa. Some PF members actually threatened my life, and called for me to be arrested, extradited and tried for treason in Zambia. I treated these threats with the absolute contempt they deserved. I have no personal reasons to hate Hichilema either. Politically, I despise him for the gross injustices and suffering his misrule of Zambia has unleashed on the majority of the people of Zambia.

The UPND has evolved a “professional savage media army” specifically for the purpose of defending their man-god and attacking, viciously and ruthlessly, his critics, no matter how legitimate, rational and patriotic such criticism can be: they insult, abuse and hound anyone who criticises Hichilema and his UPND political choir. This “professional savage media army” of the UPND has its perfect complement in the ingratiating, fawning, cowering, for ever on the “automatic defence mode” of the entire Cabinet of Hichilema. Note how UPND Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu automatically, almost unconsciously, has declared Hichilema was not booed last Sunday at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka. UPND national youth chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso doubts that Hichilema was booed, but, unlike Nkandu, cleverly declares that booing is part of politics. Here we see that the UPND man-god, Hichilema, cannot be booed by Zambians today, even as the UPND itself has conceded that life has become tougher in Zambia, economically, than it was under the PF government.

Hakainde is neither deaf nor blind. Hichilema surely must have at least a very few honest, professional trusted intelligence officers: they heard the booing and saw the ugly gestures. He heard the booing in the stadium. He saw the ugly signs some Zambians were making at him, both outside and inside the stadium. Instead of letting Zambians waste time on the silly and mundane discussion of whether booing did or did not occur, Hichilema, if he was a true democrat and not a liar who lives in a fake bubble constructed by his political choir and praise singers, which false bubble is very important for his foreign backers, would put to bed this wasting time and publicly accept that he appreciated Zambians’ anger at the growing hunger and poverty in the country, and that yes, he was booed and nasty gestures were made at him. And then he would proceed to defend and argue the case for the measures his government has mooted is are putting in place to put out the rising fires in Zambia. This will not happen.

The UPND man-god, Hakainde, worshiped by the UPND, lives in his own world, and he must be shielded and protected from the real world. Like all false gods, he is simultaneously psychologically and emotionally very fragile and yet dangerously powerful. The fake bubble he lives in must be defended by his UPND political choir, by himself and his foreign backers such as our infamous British High Commissioner Nicholas Woolly. This fake bubble, the illusion, is absolutely crucial to sustaining his leadership of the UPND, his presidency of Zambia, and his relationship with his foreign backers. It must never be punctured, and be admitted by the UPND, that the majority of Zambians are angry with the UPND and its man-god, Hichilema, and would rather see him removed from government, now, not tomorrow, because of the cruel, torturous hunger and poverty he has unleashed upon them.

There is nothing new about all this. This is how all oppressive, domineering, suppressive, exploitative, authoritarian and dictatorial regimes such as are all capitalist and imperialist states and governments, sustain themselves: they thrive on packaging and selling fake, thoroughly false and perfectly irrational public “narratives” and “alternatives to reality”. In Zambia today the dominant false “narrative” must be that “Zambians love Hichilema”, and “HH is love”. And that all the problems Zambians suffer now are caused by the PF. Blame it on Lungu, as Minister of Local Government Gary Nkombo moronically said about the cholera epidemic.

Correctly, last Friday on this column I said every king or false idol must have their own enablers, intellectuals, academics, choirs and other cultural workers whose job it is to defend, manufacture consent among the masses, and sing praises for the king or false idol. There are many ways, some small and easy to understand, such as just keeping quiet when the powerful and the worshiped savage the poor and the weak, violate constitutions and laws, shrink democratic space, collapse a national economy, advance the recolonisation of a country, profit criminally, all the while unleashing Tsunamis of hunger, unemployment, poverty and extreme social, economic, cultural, religious, tribal, regional and political inequalities.

It pays to be quiet, and better still, to join the bandwagon of the evil rulers. The risks are too high for speaking out, for protesting and criticising the false kings and earthly evil rulers: punishments and banishment from the kingdom await those who speak out, or publicly protest. In our circumstances of extreme hunger, unemployment, poverty and tribalism, we see that for most of our educated, professional, experienced and generally well-meaning Zambians, it is better to eat with the dictator of the day, especially if they are of your tribe or region than to objectively, courageously, consistently point out the wrongs and injustices committed by all our evil rulers. This way, our educated, professional, experienced and generally well-meaning Zambians make their contemptable contributions to sustaining and feeding tribalism and prolonging in office, our evil rulers.

Individuals who only yesterday were penning long legal arguments attacking unconstitutional, criminal and undemocratic conduct by government, now are quiet, silent, or writing strange articles far removed from the real concerns of their country, now, whose majority are suffering social and economic genocide, under the supervision and leadership of their man-god. When they choose to write about the evil goings on in Zambia, it is to deflect blame away from the man-god, and unleash an attack on individuals and offices they perhaps secretly covet. Others sustain their public personas by occasionally actually pointing out the most obvious bad things happening in the country, but only to also shield the man-god from blame, and to blame the PF governments, nature, climate and all manner of eclectic possible fake causes, inevitably ending up calling upon God Almighty to rescue us. Meanwhile, they hold steadfast to their cognitive dissonance sickness, prejudices and moral cowardice they suffer from, by proclaiming and insisting that the man-god is actually doing a good job, and, currently, “we have no alternative”, to the man-god.

We thus end up with the weird situation where some sections of our Christian community condemn the Speaker of our National Assembly for her undemocratic and unconstitutional behaviour while other Christian communities encourage her to hold fast and stay the course; she is doing a good job, they say. We have the strange aberration of a civil society organisation meant to defend, uplift and advance the interests of women selecting which women are fit for its attention and defence, and which are not. Previously vocal university staff, lecturers and researchers and their unions suddenly go quiet, almost as if they are underground. University students and their unions are deathly quiet, as the country is being primed to explode because of hunger, unemployment and poverty. All these are clear signs of a country in the vicious grip of a man-god, and what all this entails. But “the people” are growing restless every day, and angry, as their hunger and poverty explode.

PLAYING POLITICS OF THE 16TH CENTURY IN THE 21ST CENTURY

PF will never learn from their fixated politics of accusation and counter accusation. JJ Banda disappears, and immediately, they begin pointing fingers, including at myself. But, here is their challenge that even JJ Banda didn’t know. We are in the 21st century, and as a country, we have eyes in the sky. Every road in Lusaka is under surveillance. This was the system that the PF itself installed a few years ago when they monitored Zambians.

I am sure they didn’t know what they were installing. They were mainly preoccupied with receiving bribes from the contract to install cameras on our roads.

It is not possible to fake your own death as a way of running away from justice. Because all your movements around Lusaka are captured on camera.

I am sure by now that the police have already viewed JJ Banda’s movements and possible getaway car that could have removed him from the car he left with a running engine. Some of us are not as wicked as those who could humiliate us to an extent of living in extreme fear in our own nation.

This is exactly what they did with the death of Nsama Nsama and Kaunda. They talked about foreign elements hired by the UPND to kill. Immediately, the two were murdered Chilufya Tayali and company were already on air blaming the UPND. But, because we are in the 21st century, that plan flopped because cameras recorded everything and they ended up sacrificing the young cop as a cover up. This is why I have continued appealing to the UPND government and its institutions to review these cases and ensure that justice is granted to all the victims.

All I can assure you, fellow citizens, is that I don’t compromise on injustices and I can never be an angel and the devil at the same time when fighting for justice. We shall keep knocking on the doors of justice until people like journalist Peter Sukwa and our once disrespected police officers who were beaten at Lusaka Central Police Station receive justice. This will set an example to those in power today and their supporters that laws need to be respected. This is not a jungle country!

We wish JJ Banda well so that he can respond to the many crimes he is accused of committing with impunity. If you cannot do the time, don’t commit the crime. Meanwhile, I encourage all those with information about me abducting him to report to the law enforcement department to ensure that I’m brought to justice. I’m just an ordinary citizen who respects the law of the country. This is why I behave myself at all times, and no matter what happens in my life, rich or poor, with or without temporary political power, I will never urinate into someone’s mouth nor ambush police officers carrying out their national duties.

I love the 21st century.

MR HICHILEMA PULL ZAMBIA OUT OF SUPPORT OF THE COLONISATION OF WESTERN SAHARA- Fred M’membe

MR HICHILEMA PULL ZAMBIA OUT OF SUPPORT OF THE COLONISATION OF WESTERN SAHARA

I’m very sad to see how Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his government are not just failing the Zambian people at home, but on how they have messed up our foreign policy.

Who would have ever imagined that a Zambian President, one who should understand our history and sacrifices of Kenneth Kaunda and his Comrades, could one day betray us in this manner? Today, we see how Mr Hakainde Hichilema is working tirelessly with the West in support of colonisation of Western Sahara? Why? Please Mr Hakainde Hichilema, I beg of you, stop the.sake of our great nation, our children and our children’s children.

The APAnews of yesterday reports that:

“Mulambo Haimbe, Zambia’s acting foreign minister, met with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. The discussions yielded a renewed commitment from Zambia regarding Morocco’s territorial integrity, including the disputed Western Sahara region. The statement highlighted Zambia’s endorsement of Morocco’s proposed autonomy plan for the territory. Zambia views this plan as a “credible, serious and realistic” solution to the long-standing dispute”

We want to remind the nation that the issue of the Western Sahara corroborates Mr Hichilema’s puppetry stance. The United States government reached an agreement with Morocco for the country to recognise Israel and for the US in return to support Morocco’s colonisation of Western Sahara. And, as expected, the far-right UPND government of Mr Hichilema has also in turn recognised Morocco’s colonisation of Western Sahara. Where does Zambia’s traditional support for the Palestinian cause against Israeli apartheid stand today?

This is a total departure from the non-aligned stance Zambia has taken since its independence. How can it be that Zambia, a country with a very rich liberation struggle support history, is among the evil forces supporting colonialism of Western Sahara?

We urge Mr Hichilema to listen to advice. Pull Zambia out of this support of Morocco. This is not good for Zambia and our foreign policy.

Rooney given Plymouth Argyle head coach role

Plymouth Argyle, a Championship side, has appointed former England captain Wayne Rooney as their new head coach.

The 38-year-old takes over from Ian Foster, who was sacked on 1 April following a string of poor results.

Rooney’s appointment comes after his recent stint at Birmingham City, where he was dismissed on 2 January after a brief and disappointing tenure of less than three months, losing nine out of 15 games. Birmingham, previously in the Championship play-off places when Rooney assumed the role, was relegated to League One earlier this month.

This marks Rooney’s fourth head coach role, following his time as Derby County boss amidst the club’s financial struggles. He managed to secure Championship survival in May 2021 but left a year later after Derby’s relegation due to a points deduction for financial issues.

Rooney also spent 15 months as the boss of DC United in the United States but departed last October without achieving the MLS play-offs. His coaching staff at Plymouth will include first-team coaches Kevin Nancekivell and Simon Ireland, along with goalkeeping coach Darryl Flahavan, with more additions expected.

Rooney has already encountered Home Park and the club’s ‘Green Army’ fanbase during Plymouth’s 3-3 draw with Birmingham in December, the team’s first game following former boss Steven Schumacher’s departure for Stoke City.

“Taking this role at Plymouth Argyle feels like the perfect next step in my career – and I would like to thank the chairman and board for the faith they have shown in me,” Rooney said.

“This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting project. I look forward to helping to build a squad of players to play expansive football – and to entertain the Green Army.

“I have experienced first-hand how talented the existing group of players is here – and also the incredible atmosphere at Home Park.

“The club is on an exciting long-term journey, with a progressive plan in place. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.”

Argyle chairman Simon Hallett said Rooney approached the club when they began the process of recruiting their next head coach having ensured survival on the final day of the season.

“Throughout the interview process, Wayne showed himself to be a passionate, intelligent, and knowledgeable candidate with an appetite to prove himself and develop his managerial career,” added Hallett.

“So much so, that he reached out to the board when we started this process and was attracted by the project at hand and showed a real plan on how to lead the football club forward.

“His ambitions and aims match ours perfectly and we feel he is the perfect candidate to provide the exciting and attacking brand of football that we all like to see and help us achieve the club’s mission.”

PF CONCERNED WITH THREATS ISSUED AGAINST HH’S CRITICS

…..such kind of politics should not be tolerated in a democratic country like Zambia.

Lusaka… Saturday May 25, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The Patriotic Front has expressed concern with the continued threats against critics of President Hakainde Hichilema.

PF Chairperson of Informationand Publicity Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba says such kind of politics should not be tolerated in a democratic country like Zambia.

Amb Mwamba said it is worrying that just last week, Mambilima Member of Parliament Hon Jean Chisenga’s house was gutted in a mysterious manner.

He said Hon Chisenga has been a strong critic of President Hichilema as she even called him a liar in Parliament.

The PF Chairperson of Informationand Publicity said this when he addressed journalists at Ibex Hill Police Station where he and other senior PF officials had gone to inquire about the missing Petauke Central Member of Parliament Hon Emmanuel Banda.

“But for us we ask you to continue praying for Hon Jay Jay Banda because he remains missing. The circumstances under which his vehicle was found are very worrying.. His vehicle (official parliamentary vehicle) was found along Twin Palm road, and the vehicle was on hazard around 04:20. Two of his phones and other valuables were found in his vehicle,” he said.

“What we can confirm is that we have expressed worry at the threats that they have been issuing against the critics of the President (HH). When Charles Milupi in Mongu at a rally being addressed by the President at the airport directed UPND officials through Gilbert Liswaniso that they are allowing critics of the President to reign free. We expressed concern because that can be an instruction to ordinary cadres to harm anyone who is deemed to be a critic of the president.”

Amb Mwamba said such statements should be condemned.

He stated that the leadership of the UPND including the President himself should curb such torn.

“In the last week, we have heard media statements from Lusaka, North Western Province and from all provinces of Zambia from UPND youths threatening the former President of Zambia Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Those statements are really worrying and sadly no one is arrested for issuing those threats and that is our biggest concern. If anyone issues threats against anyone the police should move in,” he added.

“Last week we had another disaster where Hon Jean Chisenga who is a strong critic of the President, who called him a liar in Parliament, had her house mysteriously gutted. She fears for her life. We have not heard a statement from the police to say they are investigating the possible case of arson of Hon Jean Chisenga’s house. Hon Jean Chisenga has accompanied the former President when he went to Soweto even when they went to Kabwe. Jay Jay Banda has also been in the group with the president.”

He observed the need to ensure that politics are conducted without threats to life and violence.

Amb Mwamba also hinted that there are a number of officials who have informed the PF leadership of threats against their lives saying this is worrying.

DEMOCRACY SHOULD THRIVE – MPEZENI

… as Citizens First President Harry Kalaba hails Paramount Chief Mpezeni role in fostering unity in the country.

CHIPATA, SATURDAY, MAY, 25, 2024 [SMART EAGLES]

Paramount Chief Mpezeni has cautioned politicians against neglecting people when they are given instruments of power.

Speaking when Citizens First President Harry Kalaba paid a courtesy call on him at his palace, Paramount Chief Mpezeni said it is sad that politicians change when they are in the corridors of power.

And Paramount Chief Mpezeni says democracy must thrive in the country by allowing the flourishing of political parties.

He said whether from the ruling or opposition, people must be allowed to coexist and live in harmony.

“The problem is when leaders get power they forget about the people, you even start insulting us that after all, chiefs have only one vote. You neglect the people and even having access to State House becomes a challenge. I work with the Government of the day and when you form Government as Citizen First, I will also work with you, I have worked with Kaunda, Dr. Chiluba and all the other Republican Presidents, that’s why there is democracy,” Paramount Chief Mpezeni said.

“I do not segregate, everyone is my child, whether in opposition or ruling party, we are one people regardless of where you come from. At my palace all are welcome, anyone whether from UPND, PF or any other party, chiefs belong to everyone,” he said.

And Citizens First President Harry Kalaba hailed Paramount Chief Mpezeni continued roles in fostering peace and unity in the country by speaking on issues that affect the people.

” I love your leadership of bringing people together, your leadership doesn’t support injustice, you speak out when things are going wrong. You dont segregate whether it is opposition or from the ruling party, even when I am in opposition you welcome me. You have seen that we are all your children,” Mr. Kalaba said

” In other areas you can’t reach the palace when you are in opposition, but for you ,you don’t have that spirit. As you have seen your Royal Highness, the people here are struggling with farming inputs, you speak for the people and when you speak, people listen and you should continue with the same spirit,” Mr. Kalaba said.

Break-up drama lands Lusaka lawyer, ex-lover in court

Break-up drama lands Lusaka lawyer, ex-lover in court

PROMINENT Lusaka lawyer Joseph Chirwa has been sued in the Kabwe Magistrates Court for failing to honor a car loan agreement which he entered into with CTM and Associates.

Chirwa who was newly elected LAZ member is said to have loaned a car for his ex-lover Diamond TV presenter Vida Mwale as a birthday gift at a sum of K150,000.

Despite several reminders made to Chirwa to clear the debt the lawyer has neglected to do so but instead decided to assign the debt to his ex-lover.

According to a demand letter written to the journalist by Chirwa’s lawyers Lusengo Mulongoti Advocates, the lawyer demanded payment of K130,000.0 and his counsel’s collection fee of 10%, amounting to K13,000.00 in the alternative she should surrender the maroon Toyota Lexus registration no. BBC 7480ZM.

Chirwa’s lawyers accused Mwale of having lured their client to purchase the vehicle for her on reasons that she was expecting his child.

It is alleged that after Mwale refused to succumb to Chirwa’s intimidation, the lawyer forced the money lending company to jointly sue them and use court proceedings as a rubber stamp to repossess the car.

Teeford and Company legal practitioners on behalf of CTM and associates wrote a demand letter to Chirwa and Mwale demanding that he hands over the car.

According to the company Chirwa had breached the loan agreement by registering the car in Mwale’s name without clearing the balance.

The terms of agreement were that Chirwa would service the loan by making monthly payments of K30, 000 plus 4% interest per annum.

“The gist of our client’s claim is that on 2nd April, 2023, our client did enter into a Vehicle Finance Agreement with you (Mr. Joseph Chirwa) wherein our client was obligated to facilitate the purchase of a motor vehicle, make-Lexus, maroon in color with chassis number GSE20-20-2060506 at a price of K150,000 from JAN Japan Zambia Limited situated in Makeni, Lusaka,” read the demand letter.

“Additionally, one of the material conditions contained in the agreement was that the vehicle would be registered in your (Mr. Joseph Chirwa) name until the full loan amount is paid. We are further informed that after the commencement of the agreement, our client got to learn that you had breached the above-mentioned condition of the contract by registering the vehicle in the name of a third party, Ms. Vida Mwale.”

However the media personality has refused to take responsibility for the debt on reasons that she did not enter into an agreement with the money lending company but only received the car as a gift.

CTM and Associates has sued the pair in the Kabwe magistrates court for breach of contract and demanded that the vehicle be surrendered.

The car was grabbed from Mwale on Thursday May 23, when the parties went for hearing as CTM and associates obtained an ex-parte order before magistrate Austern Mubita ordering the journalist to surrender the car to the clerk of Court, pending determination of the matter.

Magistrate Mubita adjourned the case to June 6 for inter-parte hearing.

MR LUNGU WANTS TO BECOME A WA MUYAYA PRESIDENT

0

PRESS STATEMENT

25 TH May 2024

MR LUNGU WANTS TO BECOME A WA MUYAYA PRESIDENT

Mr. Lungu has embarked on a WA MUYAYA kind of leadership that Zambians rejected to be associated with. Most of those who take the route of WA MUYAYA are dictators. Mr. Lungu is just a very scared and a very bitter man. That’s why he is calling himself a snake. After eating a snake, he has now turned into a snake.

It’s very difficult to distinguish a dictator from a normal leader for the first time someone parades himself. But for those who have demonstrated their true colors before it’s very easy to know them. Zambians don’t want to start singing “Kumulu ni Lesa Panshi ni Lungu”. Have you forgotten Christians for Lungu? Going by the PF genes and tradition, if you refuse to sing, a panga will likely land on your head.

It will be a grave mistake for those who think Mr. Lungu will suddenly change when he hasn’t shown any remorse on how innocent Zambians were brutalized under his administration. Our Youths were used as tools of violence. The PF Party became so brutal that our men and women in uniform were insulted and beaten at their Police Stations. Imagine someone urinating in someone’s mouth.

To the contrary, President HH has made it abundantly clear that after his two terms he will hand over power to whoever the Zambian people will chose. But typical of the WA MUYAYA mentality Mr. Lungu shamelessly told the world that he will hand over power to himself. Under President HH we have seen stolen public resources being surrendered back by thieves. While Mr. Lungu encouraged PF thieves to loot the Nation through UBOMBA MWIBALA……

As UPND we are not scared when we hear that President HH will spend his entire life in jail, because we know why these threats are being made, corruption fights back very viciously. These are the last words from the sympathizers of the corrupt regime. Zambians, the WA MUYAYA syndicate is there not better your lives. Zambians refrain from sympathizing with cruel people.

Zambians do not need the WA MUYAYA President. History is there for anyone to see. This is a failed project. We wish Mr. Lungu lucky as he annoys Zambians with his WA MUYAYA politics. Who can trust a snake?

Mangani, Msoni Pleads With Hichilema To Stop Persecution Of Former President Edgar Lungu And His Family

MANGANI, MSONI PLEADS WITH HICHILEMA TO STOP PERSECUTION OF FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU AND HIS FAMILY

By Fox Reporter
FORMER Minister of Home Affairs in the MMD government, Lameck Mangani has pleaded with President Hakainde Hichilema to stop the persecution of former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his family.

And All Peoples Congress (APC) president Nason Msoni has reminded President Hichilema that soon he will be a former president and should reflect on his conduct today.

During a stakeholders press conference held today, Msoni warned that the trend Hichilema was promoting will soon haunt him after leaving power.

“We are raising a red flag while there is still time to address the trajectory we are on as a country. We are on a very dangerous path and need to change course immediately.

I must remind my brother, the President (Hakainde Hichilema) that the traps set for our friends can harm us as well. A President cannot serve as both prosecutor and judge. You have criminalized opposition members and labeled them as criminals,” he warned.

Msoni observed that President Hichilema has reduced the office of the President to witch-hunt against former president Lungu.

“The office of the president has been reduced to witch-hunting former presidents. Recently, I spoke with a regional leader who called me late at night. He questioned why, whenever the government changes in Zambia, it involves arresting the former president. This practice is shameful and tarnishes our international reputation. Under the current leadership, there seem to be double standards. For example, insulting the president’s enemies doesn’t result in police action. Tribal remarks are acceptable as long as they align with the ruling party’s views. This is not sustainable,” he said.

And Mangani has pleaded with President Hichilema to focus on reducing the high cost of mealie meal, unemployment, division in the country instead of persecuting former president Lungu.

“If this trend persists, President Hichilema, his children, his wife, and anyone connected to him will face the same treatment. We have a duty to remind ourselves to follow procedures. Let the police and the courts do their work, but fairness must prevail. We cannot label everyone as criminals,” he said.

The 12 “Freedom Epistles” of Saint Raphael Nakachinda to President HH at his Babylon Palace: Why the PF SG will have the last laugh in August 2026 after the shameful fall of Bally- Chris Zumani

0

The 12 “Freedom Epistles” of Saint Raphael Nakachinda to President HH at his Babylon Palace: Why the PF SG will have the last laugh in August 2026 after the shameful fall of Bally

By Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba

….As per his request, I am humbly asking Mr. Christopher Mundia, State House Legal Advisor and Mr. Levy Ngoma, HH’s Political Advisor to compile this article and treat it a formal communique from the PF SG, Raphael Nakachinda in prison to Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema (HH) at State House. We pray that God preserves all of us so that we review this letter of our chained Nakachinda exactly in August in 2026 after the fall of Babylon and King Nebuchadnezzar himself….

1. From prison, our PF SG shared Philippians 1:12-14 from the Bible for us to read and pray about it. It says:

12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters,[a] that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel (democracy).

13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard[b] and to everyone else that I am in chains (prison) for Christ (Zambia’s second liberation in 2026).

14 And because of my chains (harsh political prison sentence), most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel (fight for democracy and liberation) without fear.

Hon. Raphael Nakachinda want HH and the Zambian people to take note and run with this scripture as his epistle to us.

2. On the day the magistrate sentenced PF SG, Raphael Nakachinda last week to 18 months imprisonment with hard labor for defaming President HH, using a law already repealed by the same president, some of us knew that the PF SG was officially an innocent political victim and prisoner just like at some point Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, Thomas Sankara, Steve Biko, Reuben Kamanga, Patrice Lumumba, Lawrence Kati Lungu, Julius Nyerere, Robert Makasa, Nkwame Nkrumah, and Nelson Mandela among others. Yes, HH must know that oppressive regimes are fond of chaining people into forced submission but God is in the business of breaking the chains and setting the captives free.

3. In South Africa, Nelson Mandela was in prison for 27 years as a political prisoner because the apartheid government thought state oppression of citizens and regime critics would keep them in power eternally. But they were totally wrong: the same Nelson Mandela they so oppressed, abused, mistreated and imprisoned for 27 years became their First indigenous African Republican President as well as a legendary national hero of all times.

4. Hon. Raphael Nakachinda is fully aware that Political persecution is never a demotion, it is always a political promotion! This is one truth our Nebuchadnezzar must know about imprisoning people like Nakachinda today. 14 days out of prison as a political prisoner, current president of Senegal, 45 years old Basirou Diomaye Faye received nationwide support and defeated all heavyweight competitors in April 2024. In Senegal, God wanted to prove a point to the oppressive rulers like HH that they are not gods but mere humans. The ex prisoner is now their ruler!

5. When Jonah was swallowed by the big shark under the sea, God’s grace and power prevailed to vomit him alive after three days. Our emperor, King Nebuchadnezzar called HH must know that this Raphael he has swallowed by this unfair prison sentence will be kept alive by God’s miraculous power and vomited back to a free society. In Egypt, Joseph was jailed based on similar malicious allegations, but God promoted him to become their most valuable Prime Minister of all times. Our King Nebuchadnezzar must know that he is not a god in that Babylon palace called “Community House”.

6. President HH must know that the gods of democracy (the people) will visit him in August 2026 and his arrogance and brutality will be punished harshly too. One day, the God of Nakachinda will speak with lightning thunder, the earth will open and that king will be swallowed and disappear like vapor. Daniel was hated and later imprisoned by King Nebuchadnezzar for refusing to worship his idles. Daniel’s death prison was the barbaric lion’s den. But God refused such injustice and brutality against his innocent child and miraculously saved Daniel from the lion’s den. He came out alive and was promoted to be the Prime Minister of Babylon. That’s God for you!

7. President HH must know that Roman history accounts of Julius Caesar’s political persecution during his infant political career. The Roman dictator called Sulla became envious of emerging Julius Caesar and maliciously made him a prisoner with a death sentence. But God refused to allow evil prevail over light-this is the Julius Caesar who God saved and raised to become not only a Roman emperor, but the most important and legendary emperor of all times in Roman history. HH must know that there is Jesus Christ and he is not a god himself to have a final say on people’s lives or destiny!

8. Hon. Nakachinda knows that when dictators start attacking human Justice, love, fairness, grace and mercy by urinating on God’s people with arrogance, impunity and wickedness, God starts attacking dictators with lightning power and divine wind in order to liberate his oppressed people! This is where we are today between majority Zambians and President HH. Only trust in the Lord, political salvation, liberation and freedom shall come from above! In prison, Nelson Mandela firmly believed in “ONE DAY FREEDOM!” This is the epistle we send to our Nakachinda!

9. From May to December last year, l was falsely accused, criminally arrested, unjustly detained in prison and maliciously prosecuted with a team of 24 state witnesses for “financing terrorism” in HH’s quest to get on the neck of former President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu. I spent close to seven months in prison everyday smiling the hot wicked fire of our emperor straight from his Babylon palace called “Community House”. At his Babylon palace and indeed state house, l presume they were chanting “life imprisonment, life imprisonment or death sentence, death sentence” and so on. God showed me!

10. Confused and lost like Paul and Silas in prison, I looked to God for my redemption from this lion’s den. In that prison, l prayed and fasted for God’s intervention because only God deals with Nebuchadnezzar. Jesus Christ came through and Heaven stood for me through this traumatic journey. By God’s power and grace, l was acquitted by the Lusaka High Court and set free. King Nebuchadnezzar and his political jailers were left vomiting fire of bitterness, cursing their gods and fuming like deadly wizards and wicked witches of Babylon. Jesus Christ had triumphed over political darkness, injustice and wickedness!

11. This personal testimony of malicious arrest, imprisonment and back to freedom is what l bring to the gate of that prison so that my good friend and brother, Raphael Nakachinda and many others may draw inspiration for more faith in God and continue to look up to Jesus Christ. Yes, King Nebuchadnezzar is harshly punishing those who disobey his orders to worship his idles. But trust me, the invisible God of the universe is so divine and powerful; He destroys the evil schemes of Nebuchadnezzar in order to set the captives free in ways one cannot imagine, explain or expect.

12. On 23th August, 2023, l was sleeping in prison when l dreamt someone reading this script and singing it into a gospel song with me. It is Jude 1:24-25 and it reads as follows:

24 “Now unto him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy,

25to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen”.

This is the most important component of these epistles from Nakachinda to HH. This Nakachinda King Nebuchadnezzar has thrown into prison today will be kept alive by God’s grace, power and mercy for the sake of showing HH that he is merely human and temporal on earth like everyone. This chained Nakachinda shall be preserved by heaven and lifted above the sky soon or later. HH must know that this man in chains today and many others in similar situations shall have their last laughter in August 2026 because God hates injustice! Trust me, HH shall fall before God and man in 2026 and Nakachinda shall have the last laugh!

Catholic church set to canonise 15-year-old boy who died from leukaemia as Pope clears way for him to become a saint

A London-born teenager, whose proficiency at spreading the teachings of the Catholic church online led to him being called “God’s influencer”, is set to become a saint.

Today, May 24, Pope Francis declared Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old boy who died of leukaemia in 2006, the first saint of the millennial generation.

This means Carlo Acutis would be the first millennial – a person born in the early 1980s to late 1990s – to be canonised.

It follows Pope Francis attributing a second miracle to him.

It involved the healing of a university student in Florence who had bleeding on the brain after suffering head trauma.

Carlo Acutis was beatified – the first step towards sainthood – in 2020, after he was attributed with his first miracle – healing a Brazilian child of a congenital disease affecting his pancreas.

The second miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Carlo Acutis was approved by the Pope following a meeting with the Vatican’s saint-making department, paving the way for him to become the first millennial saint.

The recognition of the second miracle attributed to Acutis’ intercession makes it possible that Acutis could be canonized during the Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee Year. The specific date when he will be canonised is not yet known.

In a decree on May 23, Pope Francis approved the miraculous healing of a 21-year-old girl from Costa Rica named Valeria Valverde who was near death after seriously injuring her head in a bicycle accident while studying in Florence in 2022.

Carlo Acutis, an Italian computer-coding teenager who died of cancer in 2006, is known for his great devotion to the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

He died in Monza, Italy, after being diagnosed with leukaemia, having spent much of his childhood in the country. His body was moved to Assisi a year after his death, and it currently resides on full display alongside other relics linked to him.

As well as designing websites for his parish and school, he became known for launching a website seeking to document every reported Eucharistic miracle, which was launched days before his death.

Mr Acutis’ nickname, God’s influencer, has been attributed to him after his death due to this work.

His website has now been translated into several different languages and used as the basis for an exhibition which has travelled around the world.

His life is also remembered in the UK, where in 2020, the Archbishop of Birmingham established the Parish of Blessed Carlo Acutis incorporating churches in Wolverhampton and Wombourne.

Also, there is a statue of the soon-to-be-saint in Carfin Grotto, a Roman Catholic shrine in Motherwell.

Miracles are typically investigated and assessed over several months, with a person eligible for sainthood after they have two to their name.

For something to be deemed a miracle, it typically requires an act seen to be beyond what is possible in nature – such as the sudden healing of a person deemed to be near death.

The most recent person to be canonised was Maria Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, also known as Mama Antula, an 18th-century religious sister who became Argentina’s first female saint.

Why Eritreans are at war with each other around the world

Police forces across the world are prepped for Eritrea’s independence day this Friday – fearing violent clashes as disgruntled Eritreans unable to protest at home may do so at events abroad to mark the day 33 years ago that the country was born. Some countries have even banned the celebrations.

It was a hard-won battle to gain freedom from Ethiopia – coming after a three-decade conflict. But the anniversary is bittersweet for some as the promised freedoms have never materialized.

President Isaias Afwerki has ruled Eritrea for the last 33 years without holding a national election.

It is the only country in the world that does not have a constitution. Any form of political dissent and association outside that of the ruling PFDJ movement is not allowed.

There has been no free press since the closure of independent newspapers and arrest of most of their editors and journalists in 2001.

Hundreds of thousands of young Eritreans have escaped to the diaspora, many taking dangerous journeys to flee the indefinite military conscription that is the fate of any able-bodied citizen.

Through this mandatory national service, Eritrea has become one of the most militarised societies in the world.

It is from this pool of Eritrean migrants that a new form of opposition has formed in the diaspora – with a much more radical edge to it.

They are fed up with fragmented exiled opposition groups, made up, among others, of disillusioned former senior leaders of the government and PFDJ.

Determined to fight against the regime they believe forced them out of their country, they formed a militant youth group, known as Brigade Ni’hamedu, two years ago.

Their battleground is pro-government national anniversaries and festivals organized by embassies and pro-government communities.

Given Eritrea’s history there is a big mix of communities abroad – including people who left during the war, sending home money to support those who were fighting and who are still proud that their efforts saw the creation of a new nation.

For a long time, opposition activists in exile say they have been harassed and intimidated by the PFDJ even in countries where they have sought refuge.

Robel Asmelash, chairman of Brigade Ni’hamedu’s UK chapter, says his contemporaries feel it is time to fight back.

“The people have been denied the right to express its opposition peacefully,” the 27-year-old taxi driver, who fled military service in 2013, told the BBC.
Their campaign also goes by the name the “Blue Revolution” – a reference to the blue flag created in 1952 when British-administered Eritrea became an autonomous region of Ethiopia before it was later annexed.

It has branches across the world and insists any pro-government event should not be allowed to take place.

Over the last year, Canada, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the US have all witnessed violent confrontations at these gatherings.

The two rival groups have used stones, sticks, and in some instances knives to assault each other.

In Tel Aviv the tension has escalated into tit-for-tat attacks and a few weeks ago a Blue Revolution activist was killed, leaving four children and a wife behind.

A pro-government supporter is reportedly fighting for his life in hospital after he was seriously hurt on the same day.

Last week, police in London released photos of Eritreans wanted for their involvement in an attack in December, when they stormed a pro-government event taking place at a theatre in Camberwell and injured several officers.

“The level of violence used against officers, who were there to keep the public safe and protect people in a theatre, is some of the worst I have seen,” said a detective investigating the matter.

“We have so far arrested 44 people for a number of offences relating to this demonstration and continue to make progress, however, there are still outstanding a number of suspects that we need the public’s help to identify.”
The Blue Revolution’s action is having some effect, as the Swiss authorities have refused permission for this year’s national day celebrations to take place.

Eritrea’s embassy in Switzerland said it was appalled, accusing the authorities of appeasing “violent thugs”.

The Dutch city of Rijswijk has also banned the independence day gatherings.
Mr Robel admits that things may have initially got out of hand at some events, but says that Brigade Ni’hamedu members have also been targeted.

“In the beginning, there was no leadership that would manage things and take safety responsibly – as a result, many of our members became victims of violence,” he said.

“But now in all countries, leaders of Brigade Ni’hamedu are providing awareness about protest laws.

“In coordination with law enforcement forces, we shall continue our resistance.”

This is because he is aware that it is not only his contemporaries who have been radicalized.

A generation of Eritreans born in the diaspora, whose families are more aligned to the government, have also been mobilized.

The ruling PFDJ has set up a youth wing for the diaspora, described by one of its officials as a “militant” group.

Set up in 2005, the Young People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (YPFDJ) was created to expose “the lies spread by the enemies of Eritrea”, according to the state-owned news site.

Some of those recruited have even traveled to Eritrea to take part in military training at the notorious Sawa Training Camp – though unlike conscripts born in Eritrea, they can leave.

In fact, President Isaias, who has never ended his country’s war footing, introduced a new system of governance in 2017, known as the “Four Defiance Fronts”:

The first three fronts – Eastern, Central, and Western – operate in the country and include the army commands in their respective regions

The Fourth Front, referred to as 4G thanks to its Tigrinya acronym, is organized and mobilized by Eritrean embassies and the zealous YPFDJ branches abroad.

Daniel Teklai, an Eritrean based in California in the US who describes himself as a nationalist rather than PFDJ supporter, told the BBC this envisaged the diaspora as an “economic zone”.

The 53-year-old banking professional says it is wrong to see the many Eritreans in the diaspora who send back remittances in the spirit of patriotism as having blind allegiance to the PFDJ.

Mr. Daniel has spoken out against the government in the past but says his patriotic fervour was revived during the recent two-year war in Tigray, the northern province of Ethiopia, which is on Eritrea’s border.

Political consultant who made annoying Biden robocalls faces $6 million in fines

In a recent incident, political consultant have been found guilty of using computer-generated voice calls to mimic President Joe Biden. Now, they have to pay a $6million fine and are facing over twenty criminal charges.

The Federal Communications Commission said it is proposing a fine for Steven Kramer on Thursday. This is the first time they are fining someone for using generative AI technology. Lingo Telecom was accused of making the calls and now they might have to pay a $2million fine. But they could also try to reach an agreement or talk more about it, according to the FCC.

Kramer has said he planned a message that was sent to lots of voters two days before the first primary on Jan 23rd. The message had a fake voice that sounded like the Democratic president’s and said that voting in the primary would stop people from voting in November.

A person who helps politicians sent fake phone calls that sounded like President Biden to voters before an important election in New Hampshire. Now they have to pay $6 million and are facing more than 24 criminal charges.

The government agency that oversees communication rules, called the Federal Communications Commission, said it wants to punish Steven Kramer with a fine. This is the first time they are doing this for someone using generative AI technology. Lingo Telecom, the company accused of sending the calls, might have to pay a $2million fine. But they could also work things out with the other party or talk more about it, according to the FCC.

Kramer has confessed to planning a message that was sent to many voters just before the first primary on Jan 23. The message was a fake voice that sounded like the Democratic president. It said that voting in the primary would stop people from voting in November.

Both Lingo Telecom and Kramer did not respond to requests for comment on Thursday. Kramer had said to The Associated Press that he wasn’t trying to change the election, but to warn people about the possible problems with artificial intelligence. He paid a magician $150 to make the recording in New Orleans.

Kramer said in February that even though he might seem like a bad person now, he believes that the things he’s doing will make our country and democracy better in the future.

Lingo Telecom said in February that it wants to make sure it takes good care of its customers and follows all the rules. The company also said it helped with the investigation once it found out about the scam calls.

FCC boss Jessica Rosenworcel said they want to help states catch bad guys. She said the robocalls were scary.

She said that anyone could be tricked by calls made using AI technology if the caller sounds like someone they know or trust, such as a politician, celebrity, or family member. “This is just what the bad people making these fake calls with altered voices want you to do. “

Soon after New Hampshire’s primary election, the government made a rule that bans robocalls using artificial voices.

In an interview a few days after he was identified as the person making the calls, Kramer said he didn’t think his calls stopped people from voting. He mentioned that Biden won the Democratic primary election by a lot of votes even though he wasn’t on the official ballot. He helped another person who used to run for president as a Democrat with getting on the ballot. Dean Phillips from Minnesota, Kramer said that he did the action by himself.

Police arrest Sean Kingston after home raid

Singer Sean Kingston was arrested in California, just hours after police raided his Florida mansion, where his mother was also taken into custody.

In February, a company accused Kingston of not fully paying for an extensive TV and sound system.

He was arrested in Fort Irwin, southern California, on charges of fraud and theft based on a warrant from Florida, according to the police.

Prior to his arrest, Kingston mentioned on social media that his lawyers were “handling everything.”

The Florida police raid was conducted at a residence near Fort Lauderdale, which court documents from February listed as Kingston’s address.

US media, including the BBC’s partner CBS News, reported that the woman arrested was Kingston’s mother

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the BBC that they served arrest and search warrants at the property. Kingston’s legal name is Kisean Anderson.

“As a result of the investigation, an adult female, Janice Turner, 2/16/1963, was taken into custody on numerous fraud and theft charges.”This investigation is active and ongoing.”

Following the incident, law enforcement officers were observed taking items from the property. It’s uncertain if the arrests are related to the allegations made by the company.

Subsequently, Mr. Kingston was apprehended in southern California without any resistance, as stated by Broward police.

He is anticipated to be booked into the San Bernardino jail.

Both Mr. Kingston and his mother, referred to as Mama Kingston on Instagram, have been approached for comment.

Before his arrest, Mr. Kingston seemed to address the situation on his Instagram profile.

“I am good and so is my mother,” the singer said in response to reports that the arrested woman was his mother.
“My lawyers are handling everything as we speak,” he added.

A lawyer representing the pair acknowledged that allegations had been made against them, telling the AP news agency: “We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution.”

Kenyans blast president for renting US$18K per hour private jet for US trip

The cost of Kenyan President William Ruto’s official trip to the United States has become the subject of severe scrutiny back home.

The price of hiring the luxury private jet in which he and his delegation travelled is estimated to be US$1.5m, according to Kenya’s private KTN TV station.

The government in Nairobi has defended the expenditure.

“The benefits from this visit far outweigh such a million times,” government spokesman Isaac Mwaura told the BBC, without confirming the cost.

According to information from local media sources, over 30 people, including a popular comedian, are accompanying the president, who landed in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday.

Ruto and his entourage have since visited the Jimmy Carter Center and Tyler Perry Studios among other engagements.

The Kenyan leader met his American counterpart Joe Biden in Washington on May 23 as part of his four-day official visit. It is the first state visit by a Kenyan president to the US in two decades and the first by an African leader in 16 years.

A local portal, the Eastleigh Voice gave some details of the jet Ruto used stating that it was hired at the cost of US$18,000 per hour.

Kenya is among African countries that have dedicated presidential jets, the report noted, adding: “Interestingly, he opted not to board his official presidential jet, typically identified by the KAF 308 tail.

“He instead opted for a Boeing 737-700 BBJ (Boeing Business Jet), notably larger than the Fokker 70 ER (Extended Range) typically used by the Kenyan President.”

What is in the Boeing Business Jet:

Provided by Royal Jet, a company under the Abu Dhabi government, this magnificent aircraft bears the tail number A6-RJU and is headed by royal family member Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan.

It boasts 23 VVIP seats, a mid-section lounge area, a master ensuite bedroom with a queen-sized bed, shower facilities, and broadband Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing the President to browse and tweet while in flight.

The rate for hiring the Boeing Business Jet is $18,000 per hour of flying, approximately equivalent to Sh2,358,000.

The flight duration from Nairobi to Atlanta is approximately 19 hours, which means it would cost the Kenyan taxpayer roughly Sh71,404,500 for Ruto’s trip to Atlanta alone.

The flight from Atlanta to Washington, DC, is roughly over one hour, including time spent at the airport. Waiting costs are typically included in the overall hiring cost of the jet.

While this isn’t the first time the Kenyan President has utilised a private jet for official business abroad, it marks the debut of chartering a Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) during Ruto’s presidency.

Presidential Communication Service Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam explained to The Eastleigh Voice why President Ruto didn’t use his official jet.

“The presidential jet cannot do the American route. This means it will stop five times to refuel,” he explained.

He stressed that the plane serves the purpose of flying to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, as always since it was bought in the 90s.

Biden looks to counter China’s influence as he rolls out red carpet for Kenya

When Kenyan President William Ruto touched down in Beijing seven months ago, he was welcomed on the tarmac with a red carpet and cordons of Chinese troops standing at attention. Among the goals of his three-day state visit in October: securing another $1 billion in loans from China to help complete infrastructure projects.

On Wednesday, when he arrived at Joint Base Andrews to begin another state visit – this time to Washington – he again found a red carpet and troops. This time, however, a special emissary was sent to greet his plane: first lady Dr. Jill Biden.

President Joe Biden is leaning on the highest trappings of American diplomacy this week to boost ties with the East African nation, including designating Kenya a major non-NATO ally – the first in sub-Saharan Africa – and hosting a sunset state dinner on the White House South Lawn.

Looming over the pomp and circumstance is China’s expanding role in Africa, which has become a central testing ground for the world’s two largest economies as they jockey for economic and geopolitical influence.

Senior administration officials acknowledge a central factor in scheduling a state visit with Kenya was the desire to counter China’s influence and financial leverage on the African continent, which has outpaced the United States in direct investment.

For decades, China has been making high-interest loans to low-income African nations to help them fund development for domestic projects, including some flagship infrastructure projects within China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Among those: A high-speed rail route from Nairobi to Mombasa that the Kenyan government funded with billions in loans from Chinese state banks.

From 2000 to 2022, Beijing lent $170 billion to African nations – including $6.7 billion to Kenya – to fund these initiatives, according to Boston University’s Chinese Loans to Africa database. Those loans saddled Africa with costly debt that countries have been increasingly unable to service, leading many nations to seek relief from their sovereign lenders.

Now, African countries are faced with the choice of servicing their debt and advancing their development.

“That’s a tough spot for them to be in,” a senior US official said. “We would like to see them be able to meet their own ambitions.”

During the state visit, the US and Kenya are set to announce the “Nairobi-Washington Vision,” calling on creditor countries – and likely China in particular – to provide grants, budget support and debt suspension to help alleviate the burden.

Ruto, meanwhile, has called on African leaders to lean more heavily on Western nations and lower-interest loans from the World Bank to fund their development.

“There’s some real China fatigue in Africa,” said a former senior administration official. “The administration sees an opening there.”

And the US has already begun stepping into that opening. At the Group of 20 summit last year, the US and European Union announced they would back the buildout of a rail corridor connecting Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia that would facilitate the transit of the region’s critical minerals back to the West.

In his meetings with Biden, Ruto has sought to emphasize Kenya – and the broader African continent – as an area worthy of investment. In a gathering of CEOs on Wednesday at the White House, he told his American counterpart that old perceptions of the continent were changing.

“You’re all past thinking about Africa as a place of war and destruction instead of opportunity, and we’re making that real,” Ruto told the president during the meeting, according to a senior US administration official who paraphrased the leader’s remark.

Still, Ruto’s visit to Washington comes at a moment of political instability in many African countries. Military coups over the last year have toppled governments and underscored a fragile rule of law, while traditional American allies on the continent have demonstrated new willingness to break from the United States. One of the goals of Thursday’s state visit is to demonstrate the ability of democracies – like Kenya’s – to deliver for their people.

Biden, who hosted African leaders at the White House for a summit earlier in his term, has been consumed since then by conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. Since the December 2022 gathering, during which he declared he was “all in” on Africa, he’s hosted only one African leader for talks at the White House: Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.

“It’s no secret that the world has had a lot going on the last year and a half,” a senior administration official said this week, pointing to a stream of Cabinet secretaries and other senior administration officials who have visited Africa as a sign of the Biden team’s commitment.

Yet the spate of foreign conflicts has prevented Biden himself from paying a visit, which he vowed to do within a year of the summit. He still intends to travel to Africa as president, his national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on Wednesday, though he couldn’t say when.

Biden said as he welcomed Ruto to the White House on Wednesday he planned to visit Africa next year – after, he hopes, securing reelection.

“I plan on going in February,” Biden told reporters. It wasn’t clear whether Biden was joking; he asked afterward how questions about his travel plans were “relevant.”

Relevant or not, a presidential trip to Africa would come only after Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the continent last year for talks with leaders of the BRICS emerging economies.

Advisers say Biden remains intent on focusing attention on Africa, particularly amid jockeying for strategic influence from Russia and China. A comparison with former President Donald Trump – who privately referred to some African countries as “shitholes” and never himself visited Africa when in office – is also not lost on Biden’s aides.

Thursday’s state visit to Washington will be the first for an African leader since 2008.

“We believe that what today will showcase is not questions about the US commitment but answers that the US is actually delivering for Africa, for the African people – in this case, for the country of Kenya, but also with Kenya for the broader continent,” Sullivan said Wednesday.

In choosing Kenya for Thursday’s state visit, Biden and his team are signaling they view Ruto and his country as among the most critical US allies in a region where allegiances toward Washington have shifted.

Kenya has been a key partner for the US in combatting al-Shabab militants in neighboring Somalia and earlier this year joined a US-led international coalition meant to beat back attacks on Red Sea shipping lanes by Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Kenya is also preparing to deploy 1,000 paramilitary police officers to Haiti in a bid to quell gang violence, a mission largely funded by the United States.

This week, a delegation of Kenyan “command staff” arrived in Haiti, according to a law enforcement source in the country, ahead of the Kenyan-led multinational security support force. The delegation was expected to assess this week whether equipment and facilities for the foreign police forces are ready – an assessment that will be decisive in determining a timeline for the deployment, a source with knowledge of the preparations told CNN.

Despite strong support from the US and other regional powers, however, the mission has been mired in uncertainty and legal challenges for months. It was further delayed following the resignation of former Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry in March, until the creation of a transitional governing council.

“This is not something that is a completely straight line. It is a dynamic operating environment, to say the least, in Haiti, and this is going to require an adaptive, flexible approach but one guided by certain core functions and operations,” Sullivan told reporters at the White House on Wednesday.

Deby sworn in as Chad president after 3 years of military rule

Chad’s newly elected President Mahamat Idriss Deby was sworn in to succeed his late father on Thursday, after three years as an interim leader under military rule in the central African country.

Deby seized power after rebels killed his father, long-standing President Idriss
Deby, as he was visiting troops fighting militias in the north of the country in 2021.

The older Deby had ruled Chad – which is rich in oil resources but one of the poorest countries in Africa – since a coup in the early 1990s.

Chad was the first of six junta-led states in West and Central Africa to hold elections following a string of coups over the past four years that further destabilized a volatile region.

Even so, Mahamat Idriss Deby’s victory this month was controversial. He won a sweeping 61 percent of votes in the tense May 6 poll that two losing candidates, including runner-up Succes Masra, unsuccessfully challenged on allegations of fraud.

Masra, who was Deby’s prime minister, came second with 18.54 percent of votes. He resigned on Wednesday after results were confirmed last week.

Before the election, some opposition parties and civil society groups had called for a boycott, saying Deby and his allies and clan control the main institutions of power.

“To my brothers and sisters who did not choose me… I would like to say that I respect your choice, which contributes to the vitality of our democracy,” Deby said after taking the oath of office. He promised that 70 percent of the government’s budget would be spent on social welfare.

More than 40 percent of Chad’s population live below the poverty line, and extreme poverty has increased in past years according to the World Bank.

The arrival of over half a million war refugees from neighbouring Sudan after civil war erupted there in April 2023 has added to the pressure on the Chad’s resources.

Hundreds of people were gathered outside the Palace of Arts and Culture in the capital N’Djamena before the swearing-in ceremony began.

Several African leaders attended the event, including the current African Union Chairperson, Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh AI- Ghazouani, Gabon’s junta leader Brice Oligui Nguema, and the interim prime minister of Niger, which has been under military rule since a coup last year.

International Court of Justice (ICJ) orders Israel to cease Rafah offensive

United Nations (UN)’ highest judicial authority, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), has delivered a significant ruling, demanding that Israel “immediately cease its military offensive in Rafah.”

This decision supports a recent application by South Africa, which called for various actions against Israel, accusing it of escalating what they describe as a genocide.

Israel has strongly denied these accusations and indicated it would disregard any directive to stop its operations.

Government spokesperson David Mencer told the BBC: “There is no power in the world that will push us to commit a public suicide, because that’s what this is, to stop our war against Hamas.”

A Hamas spokesmansaid: “We welcome the decision of the International Court of Justice, which demands that the brutal Zionist entity [Israel] stop its aggression” in Rafah.

Reading the court’s ruling on Friday, presiding judge Nawaz Salam said that “Israel must immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate” which could bring about “the physical destruction” of the Palestinians – alluding to what constitutes genocide under international law.

Israel, he added, must also allow unimpeded access to Gaza to any UN body investigating allegations of genocide.

The ruling also reiterated a requirement for Israel to enable “unhindered provision at scale” of basic services and humanitarian aid for Gaza.

“The humanitarian situation [in Gaza] is now to be characterised as disastrous,” the ruling said.
Aid agencies and the UN say insufficient amounts of aid are reaching people in Gaza, which they say is facing famine.

The UN suspended food distribution in Rafah on Tuesday because of the perilous situation there.

Israel says it has made “extensive efforts” t ensure that humanitarian aid is “flowing into Gaza”.

Judge Salam also said that the court found it “deeply troubling” that Israeli hostages were still being held by Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, and called for “their immediate and unconditional release”.

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid criticised the ruling, calling it an “abject moral failure” that the ICJ did not connect their bombardment of Rafah to the release of the hostages.

He said Israel was forced to defend itself, adding: “There is no country in the world which wouldn’t defend itself against an attack like that.”

Minutes after the ruling was delivered, Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on the Shaboura camp in central Rafah.

A local activist at Kuwait Hospital nearby informed the BBC that the intensity of the raids prevented rescue teams from reaching the site.

Israel commenced a long-awaited offensive in Rafah approximately three weeks ago, aiming to eliminate the remaining Hamas battalions and asserting that Israeli hostages are being held in the town.

According to the UN, over 800,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah since the offensive began, with about 1.5 million people taking refuge there from conflicts elsewhere in Gaza.

The hearing is part of a case initiated by South Africa at the ICJ in December, accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. The case remains ongoing.

Israel’s offensive in Gaza began after Hamas gunmen attacked Israel on October 7, killing around 1,200 people and taking 252 hostages back to Gaza.

Since then, Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry reports that at least 35,800 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict.

However, Onana faced a rocky start in English football, leading to scrutiny over his £48 million ($61m) transfer fee and his future with the club.

Despite the early struggles and criticism, he has managed to regain his form and is determined to return to the top of his game.

Onana has told BBC Sport of that quest, as he looks to prove himself deserving of a standing among the global elite: “I arrived as the best goalkeeper in the world and ‘boom’ it went down.

It was like ‘what happened?’ But that is how difficult football is sometimes. It depends if you want to stay down there or stand up and fight. I know what I did to arrive here. I know who I am. I decided to stand up and fight.”

United have been keeping Onana busy, facing a barrage of shots from Premier League rivals in a string of fixtures between March and April.

On average, they have faced at least 20 shots per game during this period.

Their last line of defence added on that workload: “I don’t mind facing 20 or 30 shots. I am very happy with what my team-mates are doing because a lot of them make sacrifices for the team.

It would be nice to have everyone back but what can we do? Hide? We are a big club. We have to go on the front foot and deal with difficulties. I am positive. I know things will get better. If not today, tomorrow.”

The Red Devils have a chance to salvage their disappointing 2023-24 season as they prepare for another FA Cup final appearance.

Erik ten Hag, whose future at the club is under scrutiny, is making plans for a showdown at Wembley against their arch-rivals Manchester City on Saturday.

‘This is only the beginning’ – Cassie breaks silence following release of Diddy

Cassie Ventura has finally broken her silence following the release of a video that showed her embattled ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulting her in a Los Angeles hotel in 2016.

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, the music executive and rapper had initially denied allegations of rape and abuse from Cassie.

But Combs, 54, after CNN shared the video last week, had a change of tone and publicly apologized for his actions on Sunday. The incident in question is said to have happened at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, and Combs has since come under intense scrutiny.

In her Instagram post on Thursday, Cassie first expressed her gratitude for “all the love and support from my family, friends, strangers and those I have yet to meet.” “The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe now, but this is only the beginning,” the singer said. “Domestic Violence is THE issue.”

The 37-year-old singer said being a victim “broke me down to someone I never thought I would become.” She, however, revealed that “with a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from my past.”

Cassie also expressed her gratitude to “everyone who has taken the time to take this matter seriously.” “My only ask is that EVERYONE open your heart to believing victims the first time,” she added. “It takes a lot of heart to tell the truth out of a situation that you were powerless in.”

“I offer my hand to those that are still living in fear. Reach out to your people, don’t cut them off. No one should carry this weight alone,” she continued. “This healing journey is never-ending, but this support means everything to me. Thank you. Love Always, Cassie.”

Combs and Cassie started dating in 2007 and had an on-and-off relationship for over 10 years. The American music mogul signed Cassie to his label in 2005 when she was 19 and he was 37.

Cassie, 37, initially filed a lawsuit in New York federal court alleging that Combs brought her into his “ostentatious, fast-paced, and drug-fueled lifestyle” after she met him.

The lawsuit further alleged that Combs was “prone to uncontrollable rage” and physically abused her during their relationship including punching, beating, kicking, and stomping on her. It alleged that Combs urged Ventura to use drugs and forced her to have sex with other men while he masturbated and filmed. The lawsuit was later dismissed after both parties reached an undisclosed settlement.

Combs’ legal woes further mounted following the circulation of the video as model Crystal McKinney became the latest person to file a sexual assault lawsuit against the 54-year-old. That’s a total of six sexual assault lawsuits that have been brought against the rapper and music executive.

Pochettino reportedly to replace Southgate as England manager

Mauricio Pochettino finds himself with a plethora of options for his next move after departing Chelsea at the conclusion of the season.

The Argentine manager has already begun contemplating his next steps following his departure from Stamford Bridge by mutual consent after just one season.

Pochettino has expressed interest in potentially taking over the England national team from Gareth Southgate, should the current Three Lions boss step down after Euro 2024.

Additionally, he is reportedly eyeing the managerial position at Manchester United, as per The Telegraph. Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad is also said to be interested in securing Pochettino’s services.

Pochettino has openly stated that he would welcome the opportunity to manage England, with the possibility of the role becoming available this summer. Southgate has hinted at retirement after Euro 2024 if England emerges victorious in the tournament.

However, Pochettino may receive alternative offers before such a scenario unfolds. Manchester United is expected to part ways with Erik ten Hag this summer, regardless of the outcome of the FA Cup final, and Pochettino is reportedly on their radar.

Under Pochettino’s guidance, Chelsea witnessed impressive attacking prowess from their young players in the Premier League this season, scoring a total of 51 goals from players under the age of 23.

This achievement marks a record in the competition’s history for the highest number of goals scored by a team in a single campaign by players of this age group.

Exiting Chelsea on a high note, Pochettino’s team concluded a challenging season with a winning streak that secured sixth place in the Premier League and European football for the upcoming season.

Joining the ranks of high-profile club managers departing their positions, including Thomas Tuchel, Massimiliano Allegri, Roberto De Zerbi, and Jurgen Klopp, Pochettino leaves Chelsea amidst a period of managerial transition.

As Chelsea embarks on the search for a new coach, they join the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus, Brighton, and potentially Manchester United in seeking new leadership.

Pep says he ‘completely agrees’ with Erik ten Hag in his ‘struggles’; he tells why

0

Pep Guardiola expressed considerable sympathy for Erik ten Hag following Manchester United’s worst Premier League season to date.

Heading into the FA Cup final, City are heavy favorites, having secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

In stark contrast, United recorded their lowest league finish since 1990 and ended the season with a negative goal difference.

The disastrous campaign is likely to cost Ten Hag his job. However, Guardiola acknowledged that United’s struggles were exacerbated by relentless injury problems, and he felt for their challenging situation.

“He has done many good things, I have huge respect for his job in the past and now at United I completely agree when I listen to him when he says they have not had a full squad this season and had a lot of injuries,” Guardiola told a press conference.

“I think this is the most important thing they have to think about because I am always focused that we have to be fit, fit, fit – otherwise we cannot use the players.

They had a lot of problems and when that happens the manager suffers a lot. The squad is really good but the problem is when you cannot use them. This is a big disadvantage.”

Guardiola said that United can never be counted out despite their problems and singled out Bruno Fernandes as their most influential player.

“The brilliant players they have up front, Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund. The influence of Bruno on that team is outstanding. His creativity is one of the best I have ever seen.”

Ten Hag has faced over 60 injuries this season, resulting in players being unavailable for more than 350 games combined. For the final, United will be without Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire.

In contrast, City have no injury concerns apart from Ederson, who wouldn’t have played regardless since Stefan Ortega is the first-choice goalkeeper for cup competitions.

City can make more history by becoming the first English side to win back-to-back doubles of the league title and FA Cup. Guardiola added:

“The history gives us a chance to do what hasn’t been done before, why not try it? Maybe it is an extra motivation for the players, I don’t speak about it but like I said to them, just to play to win.

No team had won four [titles] in a row, when they have not done back to back FA Cups it is because it is not easy. At the same time, what’s next? That is the mentality the big teams have to show, go for it with all they have.”

Trump holds campaign rally in New York to win over black and Latino voters

Donald Trump held a campaign rally in New York’s South Bronx neighborhood, aiming to win over black and Latino voters ahead of November’s presidential election.

Among those sharing the stage with him was Florida Republican Byron Donalds, a black congressman and rumored potential running mate.

This rally marked Trump’s first in New York in roughly eight years, as he tries to make inroads with ethnic minority voters.

A recent New York Times and Sienna poll suggests Democrat Joe Biden is losing support among this crucial voting bloc in key states.

The Bronx, a mainly Hispanic and black neighborhood, is a Democratic stronghold. Trump spoke directly to the New York audience about his impact on the city, where he built much of his fortune and fame.

He claimed that while the city once inspired the world, it is now spiraling into decline, citing crime and infrastructure issues.

He blamed Biden and record levels of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border for having an economic impact on minority voters.

“The biggest negative impact [of illegal immigration] is against our black population and our Hispanic population, who are losing their jobs, losing their housing, losing everything they can lose”, Mr Trump told the crowd.

Before Mr Trump’s arrival, there was concern about how he would be received in the Bronx.

“I wish he would just disappear,” one man told the New York Times ahead of the rally.

“Nobody I know supports him.”

Police presence was heavy at Crotona Park as counter-protesters gathered outside the rally.

They were eventually removed by New York police, according to the BBC’s US media partner CBS.

But people who spoke to the BBC said they appreciate Mr Trump’s willingness to step out of his comfort zone.

“It’s a bold move right here, him coming to the Bronx,” Geoffrey Davis said. “What he’s done here is very respectful.”

Mr Davis said he supports Mr Trump because “when he was president, there were no wars. No Ukraine-Russia. No Israel-Gaza”.

Thamar Corniel, a Trump supporter who was born in the Dominican Republic, said: “He’s America first.”

Mr. Trump has been increasingly trying to make inroads with minority communities, hoping to sway crucial swing states in his favor.

The race between Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump is tight ahead of the November 5th election. In April, during a break from his criminal hush-money trial in New York, Mr. Trump visited a Harlem corner store. He also spoke at a gala for the Black Conservative Federation, an organization working to expand Republican support among black voters, and has hired a black media director, Janiyah Thomas.

However, there have been missteps. In February, he was criticized for suggesting that his four criminal indictments boosted his appeal with black Americans because they see him as a victim of discrimination.

According to a recent New York Times and Sienna poll, Mr. Trump is leading Mr. Biden in five battleground states, partly due to black and Latino voters drifting away from the Democratic Party. President Biden has taken notice, as that bloc was crucial to his win in 2020, and has spent millions of dollars on targeted advertising blitzes.

Young and non-white voters appear to be losing faith in Mr. Biden and the Democrats, growing frustrated with issues like inflation and the White House’s support for Israel.

During President Biden’s recent commencement address at Morehouse University, a historically black college, several graduates turned their backs on him in protest of his handling of the war in Gaza.

Olive branch to Haley
After the rally, Mr Trump extended an olive branch to his Republican primaries rival Nikki Haley, calling her a “very capable person” who he expected to serve on his team “in some form”.

Earlier this week, Ms Haley said she would vote for the man who beat her in the race for the Republican presidential nomination – a race that saw the two sides trade bitter insults.

“We have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts,” commented Mr Trump, acknowledging that their slanging match had been “pretty nasty”.

She ultimately withdrew and challenged her adversary to win over the millions of voters who picked her in the contest. The Biden campaign has been looking to woo the same groups.

Iran inters its deceased president in the nation’s holiest Shiite monument after tragic plane crash

Iran buried President Ebrahim Raisi at the country’s most important Shiite shrine on Thursday, after he died in a helicopter crash. This adds to the problems Iran is already facing, including sanctions, unrest within the country, and tensions with other nations.

Raisi, along with the country’s foreign minister and six others, was buried at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad. Shiite Islam’s eighth imam is also buried there and it’s a popular place for pilgrims to visit. Many people wearing black clothes gathered around the shrine with its golden dome. They were crying and hitting their chests to show their sadness, which is a tradition in Shiite ceremonies.

A saying from the Prophet Mohammad says that visiting a certain place will take away your sadness and sins. However, Thursday’s large religious ceremony did not provide much comfort for Iran and its many problems.

The events for Raisi have not attracted as many people as the gatherings for Revolutionary Guard Gen in 2020. Qassem Soleimani was killed by a US drone in Baghdad.

In Tehran, around 1 million people came out to the streets to honor Soleimani, which is more than what was seen at the men’s commemorations on Wednesday. But the events have often mentioned the leader and shown his picture, which might create a connection between the people.

This shows how the public feels about Raisi’s time as president. He was very strict and did not allow people to speak out against the government. This happened after the protests following the death of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for not wearing a headscarf.

The government crackdown and Iran’s economy problems were not talked about on state TV or in newspapers. Raisi’s role in the killing of around 5,000 people at the end of the Iran-Iraq war was never talked about.

Not much is known about why the old Bell helicopter crashed in a foggy, mountainous area. The police and soldiers were going to look into the situation soon.

Authorities have told people not to celebrate Raisi’s death in public, and there is a lot of security in Tehran since the accident.

Raisi, who is 63 years old, was being talked about as someone who might take over from Iran’s top leader, 85-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The next time people will choose a new president is on June 28. Right now, no one in Iran’s political leaders is the top choice for the position, especially no one who is a Shiite cleric like Raisi.

Acting President Mohammad Mokhber, who wasn’t well-known before the crash on Sunday, has started doing his job and went to a meeting between Khamenei and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday.

Mashhad was a place where Raisi stayed for a long time. In 2016, Khamenei chose Raisi to lead the Imam Reza charity foundation in Iran. The charity manages a lot of businesses and properties, and also looks after the shrine. It is a charitable foundation in Iran that is funded by donations or assets taken after the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The Imam Reza charity, also known as Astan-e Quds-e Razavi in Farsi, is one of the largest charities in the country. Experts believe that it is worth tens of billions of dollars because it owns almost half of the land in Mashhad, which is Iran’s second-largest city, about 750 kilometers east of the capital, Tehran.

Raisi is the first important politician in the country to be buried at the shrine, which is a big honor for the religious leader. His wife’s dad leads the city’s Friday prayers.

Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian died while Iran is supporting militia groups in the Middle East to fight against Israel and the United States. People who were sad sang and spoke out against both countries during the ceremonies.

The official news showed pictures of a meeting between Iran’s military leaders and the leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthi rebels from Yemen.

On Thursday morning, a lot of people wearing black clothes gathered on a big street in the city of Birjand. Raisi used to work there as a member of the Assembly of Experts in South Khorasan province, which is near the border with Afghanistan. In Mashhad, people gathered on the streets to say goodbye to the person who passed away. They reached out to touch the truck carrying his body and threw scarves and other items at it for good luck.

Former Foreign Ministers Mohammed Javad Zarif and Ali Akbar Salehi, along with other important people, went to Iran’s Foreign Ministry to pay their respects to Amirabdollahian. His casket was on display there. He was buried in Shahr-e Rey, near Tehran, at the Abdol Azim shrine, which is a place where famous people from Persian history are laid to rest.

“A religious singer said hello to Soleimani as they laid Amirabdollahian to rest. “

American missionaries killed in escalating gang violence in Haiti

A US missionary couple was among three people killed in Haiti amid ongoing rampant gang violence.

atalie Lloyd, 21, her 23-year-old husband David, and 20-year-old Haitian Jude Montis were ambushed by gunmen while leaving a church.

Gangs continue to dominate much of Port-au-Prince, leading to thousands fleeing their homes in recent weeks. The couple’s deaths were confirmed on Facebook by Natalie’s father, Missouri State Senator Ben Baker.

“They were attacked by gangs this evening and were both killed,” he wrote. “They went to heaven together.”

Their organization, Missions in Haiti, confirmed to US media that Mr. Montis was the third casualty. In a previous Facebook post, the organization detailed that the three victims were assaulted by two different armed groups. The attack commenced with gunmen arriving in three vehicles.

After another group arrived and a gang member was shot dead, the three missionaries were trapped in a house while the gang went “into full attack mode”, the post added.

“They are holed up in there, the gangs have shot all the windows out of the house and continued to shoot,” the post said.
Missions in Haiti confirmed that all three were dead three hours later.

The state department is aware of the deaths, a spokesperson told the BBC’s US partner CBS.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to the family on their loss,” the spokesperson said. “We stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance.”

On X/Twitter, Missouri Governor Mike Parson called the deaths “absolutely heart-breaking news”.

In a similar incident in 2021, 17 North American missionaries were kidnapped near Port-au-Prince. While five were released, the remaining 12 escaped by navigating through dense bush using stars.

Missions in Haiti, an organization focused on aiding Haitian children since 2000, has faced numerous challenges.

For weeks, gangs had orchestrated deadly attacks, demanding the resignation of then-Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who eventually agreed to step down in March.

Consequently, a nine-member transitional council has been sworn in to lead the nation. However, gangs have exploited the power vacuum created by Henry’s departure, expanding their control over large areas of the country.

In response, Kenya plans to deploy police forces to Haiti, heading an international mission to support the country’s transitional authorities in restoring order.

Meanwhile, UNICEF recently warned that escalating violence and widespread malnutrition have pushed Haiti’s health system to the brink of collapse.

Decision made! Erik ten Hag set to be sacked -Reports

Man Utd has reportedly made the decision to dismiss Erik ten Hag, regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s FA Cup final.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio via SoccerNews.nl, Ten Hag will lead Manchester United for the final time at Wembley on Saturday before departing the club this summer.

Even if Ten Hag guides the team to victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, the Red Devils are already seeking a new manager.

The uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future arises after a challenging season for Manchester United.

The team finished in eighth place in the Premier League standings with a negative goal difference.

Their only chance of European football next season rests on winning the FA Cup final against City.

Manchester United has been linked with potential replacements for Ten Hag.

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and England manager Gareth Southgate are among the names mentioned.

Additionally, former Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel and recently unemployed Mauricio Pochettino are reportedly considered candidates for the managerial position at Old Trafford.

Di Marzio said: “McKenna is the man of the moment in the football world, in the world of coaches, because he is doing great at Ipswich Town.

He is the number one choice at Brighton & Hove Albion, but he has also already spoken to Manchester United.

At the end of the season, United will say goodbye to Ten Hag.

“Manchester United will also be looking for a new coach. And their targets are McKenna and Mauricio Pochettino.

De Zerbi is also on the list, but he has not been in contact with United in recent days. If he [McKenna] goes to Chelsea, United will go for Pochettino.

But what is certain: they are saying goodbye to Ten Hag.”

Manchester United are not the only club looking for a new coach this summer. Bayern Munich, Juventus, Brighton and Chelsea are also on the hunt for a first-team coach, while Barcelona are being tipped to part ways with Xavi and could also join the list.

SA set to have the first ever woman chief Justice

Mandisa Maya is set to lead South Africa’s judiciary for the next 10 years, after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), which oversees senior judicial appointments, determined on Tuesday to recommend her appointment as chief justice by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

As the first woman to hold such a position in the country’s history, it seems like a reward for a judge who stayed away from controversy.

However, the position itself is increasingly the focus of political contention, as is the entire legal system, part based on Roman-Dutch and part on English jurisprudence.

Since the multi-party negotiations of 1992/93, some radical elements have been criticising those political agreements, along with the resulting constitution, as effectively entrenching land theft and other colonial-era excesses, as well as the apartheid race-based system which shaped the modern urban landscapes of this still-divided country.

But these voices were drowned out by the vast majority’s acceptance of a new deal in what has been the ‘land of apartheid’, the biases embedded in an inherited legal system being left to post-apartheid administrations to sort out.

But for the likes of former president Jacob Zuma and his newly minted uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party, only a complete rewrite of the entire structure of the law is sufficient.

Zuma himself is still facing 783 counts of fraud, corruption and money laundering charges arising from alleged kickbacks during a late 1990s arms deal.

But he is desperate to have both the ‘Eurocentric’ laws of South Africa changed, and the negotiated constitution thrown out just as much as he demands a reversion to something akin to slightly modernised traditional tribal law. Recently, the courts struck his name off the ballot over his past conduct including a jail term her served for contempt of Court.

Along with MK, Julius Malema and his Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have blown hot and cold over South Africa’s legal structures.

Malema and a few of his close lieutenants have also come in for legal scrutiny over possible state capture-style graft, or other alleged improprieties.

At one point, the EFF, which is overtly Pan-Africanist, was arguing against its own policies when anti-immigrant sentiments were running high amid further bouts of violent xenophobia.

The Party argued that the bar for successful amnesty applications was too low, and too many people were being allowed into the country.

The EFF stand seems more closely related to direct effects of the law on the party leaders than any underlying ideological issues, though it maintains a strong line that should it gain power, it will wield existing and any new laws with vigour, believing in the centralisation of power in a Marxist-Leninist state system.

Both MK and the EFF also say they want all major industries nationalised.

Put together, these two political alignments could garner at least a quatre of the vote in the elections due on Wednesday next week, according to latest opinion polls.

That may not be a direct or immediate threat to South Africa’s current legal framework.

However, there is a growing populist sentiment that ‘old colonial laws and systems must go’, even though most of those supporting such calls have little idea of the implications.

Outgoing Chief Justice Raymond Zondo was something of a ‘controversial’ choice, when appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in April 2022, despite being ‘next in line’ as Deputy Chief Justice.

This was due to his four-year stint as chair of the commission of inquiry into state capture graft, ironically signed into law by then outgoing president Zuma as one of his last official acts before being forced to resign by his own ruling African National Congress (ANC) party in 2018.

That means that Justice Maya’s new heights bring her the task of managing the politics related to the calls for a change in legal framework, together with the potential legal drams that may ensue over which way to go about change.

Born in March 1964 in the then apartheid-era ‘black homeland’ of Transkei, now the Eastern Cape province, Mandisa Muriel Lindelwa Maya was appointed Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa soon after missing out on the top slot in 2022 to Justice Zondo.

She has had a stellar career from humble beginnings and was formerly the president of the Supreme Court of Appeal from 2017 to 2022.

Initially a prosecutor and state law adviser, she was admitted as an advocate in 1994.

Former president Thabo Mbeki appointed her to the Supreme Court of Appeal in June 2006. In the appellate court, she was elevated to the deputy presidency in September 2015 and the presidency in May 2017.

She was the first black woman to serve in the Supreme Court of Appeal, as well as the court’s first woman deputy president and first woman president.

UKA STANDS WITH ECL…. Calls for early elections before 2026

UKA STANDS WITH ECL…. Calls for early elections before 2026
24/05/24

The UKA Assembly of Presidents have noted the rumored call-out or arrest of the sixth President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu with deep concern. The shrinking democratic space, which has robbed Zambians of their freedom of expression and association, is a great source of worry for our fledgling democracy.

The UPND government in its leadership’s naivety must be aware of far reaching consequences of the move to arrest President Edgar Chagwa Lungu for no offence committed. Clearly, the public is aware of similar pronouncements made by President Hakainde Hilema during prior to the 2021 general elections and no charges were preferred against him.

It is important to note that while the election day is the most important day when citizens exercise their power over national leadership at various levels, in between elections, the constitution confers upon the leadership rights to congregate to fine tune their ideals and reach consensus to present themselves for elections.

The denying of citizens’ rights of association and assembly to share their values to present to voters is an assault on democracy and development. Furthermore, this can potentially build in unnecessary costs of access to finance both by the sovereign, sub-sovereign and the local private sector through perceived political risk premium.

Need we remind the UPND led government that the negative narrative being painted through denying opposition party’s from engaging with the general public is feeding into a higher risk premium for our country. Rating agencies will likely factor in this risk premium in arriving at the sovereign rating.

This negative factor makes investors to adopt a cautionary position as fears grow that the tension being built up and sustained by the UPND government can potentially lead to civil disobedience and create a hostile environment for business which would affect the business environment.

We wish to alert the UPND government that the destruction of the independence of security agencies in general and the police in particular will lead to a negative outlook in the next rating exercise. The end result will be unnecessary costs to the general public and the business community.

UKA hastens to caution the UPND government and the compromised security agencies that your actions lack ingredients of a mature deliberation and thought through wisdom. Simply put, the UPND government lacks capacity to contain multiple battle fronts.

ECL will be protected by UKA and the UPND, will live to regret and the consequences that will follow through harassing.

For the avoidance of any doubt to President Hichilema and his IG, we in UKA call for EARLY ELECTIONS BEFORE 2026 because our people are suffering economically, politically and spiritually under the brutal despotic UPND regime.

BOWMAN LUSAMBO WAS NOT PART OF THE PEOPLE THAT ATTACKED US – OBED KASONGO’S BROTHER INLAW TELLS COURT

BOWMAN LUSAMBO WAS NOT PART OF THE PEOPLE THAT ATTACKED US – OBED KASONGO’S BROTHER INLAW TELLS COURT

Luanshya, 24th May 2024.

National Democratic Congress NDC member Ganistone Mwila has told the Luanshya Magistrate Court that former Kabushi MP Hon Bowman Lusambo was not part of the people that attack him other NDC members during the Roan Constituency By election in 2019.

Ganistone MWILA who is the Brother Inlaw of late Obed Kasongo and was the driver of the Ford Ranger Motor vehicle that was carrying the NDC members that were attacked by suspected PF cadres when they were coming back from dispatching polling agents.

Mr Mwila who testified before magistrate Penistone Kalutwa Chiluba narrated how he and other National Democratic Congress NDC members were attacked by suspected PF cadres led by Brighton Mumba popularly known as Tonny and not Hon Bowman Lusambo.

When asked by overzealous and embattled state prosecutor Judith Mayiya if the accused person (Hon Bowman Lusambo) was among the suspected cadres that attacked them, Mr Mwila vigorously refused stating that Mr Lusambo was not on the scene and did not participate in their attack.

Ganistone Mwila stated that he was better placed to see and recognize Mr Lusambo if ever he was part of the attackers as alleged by the embattled Joseph Akafumba aligned NDC member only identified as Mr Musukwa who resides in Luanshya.

He insisted that he was better placed to see because he was the one driving the motor vehicle that carried the victims of the attack as he had switched on the lights of the vehicle pointing in the direction of the attackers giving him a clear and definitive view.

He narrated that He only saw Hon Lusambo the following day at the Mpatamato police station when he found Ganistone Mwila, Obed Kasongo, and Laison Phiri detained after having been assaulted and he instructed the police to instead take them to the hospital as they were injured.

“ Me, my boss and Brother in law Obed Kasongo together with Laison Phiri only saw ba Honorable Lusambo the following morning when he found us nursing our wounds while in detention and ordered the police to take us to the hospital to be treated and he even ordered the same police officers to arrest our attacker who was was also at the police station at the same time” Ganistone said.

Ganistone MWILA further said that if anything Hon Lusambo should be thanked and honored for ensuring that the police had taken him and his brother Inlaw togther with another victim Laison Phiri to the Hospital for treatment.

Ganistone MWILA also wondered why Joseph Akafumba’s lap dog named Musukwa would go and make a false report against Mr Lusambo alleging that he had been assaulted by him when the accused was nowhere near the scene of the attack.

Loadshedding goes 12 hrs a Day

0

Loadshedding goes 12 hrs a Day

…a decision has been taken to extend the daily hours of load shedding from the current Eight (8) hours to Twelve (12) hours, staggered in periods of Six (6) hours each day….

The Government of the Republic of Zambia through the Ministry of Energy wishes to update the nation on the power supply situation with special emphasis on the load-shedding exercise.

The Ministry of Energy, through ZESCO Limited, has had a critical review of the
on-going load management measures based on various power system performance variables and most importantly the feedback received from all our customer segments and the citizenry at large.

You may wish to note that the
implementation of the Eight (8) hours load-shedding that took effect on 11th March 2024 is among the load management measures that has critically been
reviewed.

The other measures include power importation and the continuous engagement with large power users such as the mines, the farming community and the manufacturers to find sustainable means of rationing the available power while supporting continued productivity and preserving jobs and livelihoods.

In view of the fore-going, I wish to highlight the following:

1. The available water for power generation
Zambia’s power generation is primarily hydro with the country’s dependence still at 85% of our total installed capacity of 3,777 Megawatts.

This reliance has
been severely tested by drought highlighting the inherent risks and limitations of depending on a single energy source.

As at 14th May 2024, the water available for power generation at Kariba Dam, the hardest hit reservoir in terms of reduced water inflows, stood at 48.6% yielding a paltry 166MW of power from the total installed power generating
capacity of 1,080MW.

As reported by the Zambezi River Authority, the water levels did not appreciate at the end of the rainy season and have since continued on a downward trend.

The situation for the Kafue River Basin, which has
traditionally been our most reliable, has not been any better.

The Itezhi-Tezhi Dam as at 14th May 2024 stood at 39% of usable water for generation of
electricity.

2. Power imports

ZESCO Limited has taken steps to steadily increase its power imports as a measure to reduce the deficit to support industries during the emergency
period.

While the power imports have eased pressure on the national grid, it is not without some limitations which include network transmission constraints on
some routes within the regional market.

At present, our total power imports
(firm and none firm) stand at 188MW.

In addition to that, ZESCO Limited has clawed back power from export contracts to a total of 160MW.

3. Stakeholder engagement and customer support

The Ministry recognizes and values the support of all stakeholders and is particularly grateful to the large power users who have taken steps to support
the load management measures.

Notable steps are those taken by customers such as First Quantum Minerals to import power, a move that will ease pressure on the grid.

This collaboration authenticates what collective responsibility can
achieve in times of a national emergency such as the one we find ourselves in.

4. Load Shedding Scheduling

Upon a careful scrutiny of various power system performance variables and the
growing difficulty to balance the available power supply with demand, a decision has been taken to extend the daily hours of load shedding from the current Eight (8) hours to Twelve (12) hours, staggered in periods of Six (6) hours each day to
ensure that we have power supply available until the end of the year.

This change took effect on Monday, 20th May 2024.

5. Transparency and future updates.

The Ministry understands the importance of clear communication and will keep the Nation informed of any future updates or changes to the load-shedding
schedule through the various media platforms.

Government understands the challenges this extended load-shedding presents.

Therefore, we are committed to finding sustainable solutions to resolve the crisis through collaboration with stakeholders in development of renewable energy projects such as solar, to enhance our energy mix.

Thank you.

JOHN SANGWA WAS WRONG: THE CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT 2016 PROVIDES FOR EARLY ELECTIONS

A couple of days ago, Constitutional lawyer John Sangwa, State Counsel, is quoted by various sections of the media to have said that former President Edgar Lungu’s suggestion of an early election reveals ignorance of the law, noting that the current Constitution does not provide for early elections.

As an active advocate for the referendum in 1990, and having been former Constitutional Review Commissioner, and participated in several constitution-making processes since the 1991 Mvunga Constitution Review Commission, I argue, with a very high degree of certainty, that SC Sangwa erred in the above statement attributed to him. Contrary to the assertion by Mr. Sangwa, the Constitutions of Zambia have always provided for early elections. This includes the Constitution Amendment 2016.

If only Mr. Sangwa had read and thoroughly understood Article 5 and 81 of the Constitution Amendment 2016, he would not have arrived at such an outrageous conclusion.

Article 5(1) of the Constitution provides that the sovereign authority vests in the people of Zambia, whichmay be exercised directly or through elected or appointed
representatives or institutions.

However, Article 5(3) adds that the people of Zambia shall exercise their reserved powerthrough a referendum, as prescribed. So, in line with this provision, if the people of Zambia demand overwhelmingly, at anytime during the 5- year electoral cycle, that they want general elections to be held before the date set in the Constitution, all that is required to be done is to hold a referendum. If the outcome of such referendum is in the affirmative, then elections will be held before the date set in the Constitution.

Alternatively, if the President thinks holding a referendum is unnecessary considering the overwhelming nature of the demand the President may proceed to dissolve Parliament and thereby cause the election to be held within 90 days of such dissolution of parliament. Like did Dr. Kaunda in 1990 when he realized the demand for the repeal of Article 4, which provided for One Party State, was overwhelming, he proceeded to reintroduce multipartysm without holding a referendum.

In the case of Article 81, if Members of Parliament make it difficult for government to pass any bill or refuse to participate in any parliamentary business, the President may be compelled to dissolve parliament and thereby cause the general elections to be held within 90 days of dissolution.

In view of the foregoing, it is very, very unfortunate that SC Sangwa labelled his brother ECL to be ignorant of the law, when in fact an early election is provided for in the Constitution Amendment 2016. And has always been provided in all constitutions since 1964.
