CHIPILI BLASTS UPND’S CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS CALLS IT “A BETRAYAL OF CITIZENS ASPIRATIONS ”

CHIPILI BLASTS UPND’S CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS CALLS IT “A BETRAYAL OF CITIZENS ASPIRATIONS ”

Political and business analyst Francis Chipili has delivered a scathing critique of the UPND government’s proposed constitutional amendments, branding them as a dangerous deviation from the people’s long-standing demands and a threat to democratic accountability.

While acknowledging the release of the draft as a step towards public engagement, Chipili wasted no time exposing what he termed as “deliberate omissions” and “disturbing provisions” that risk empowering the Executive at the expense of citizens.

“Some of these proposed amendments do not respond to the aspirations of the people. Citizens must be at the core of any constitutional reform, not sidelined,” Chipili charged.

Chipili singled out five critical flaws in the proposed changes, accusing the government of backtracking on promises and ignoring hard lessons from Zambia’s democratic journey:

Dodging the people’s demand for a professional Cabinet — Chipili slammed the UPND for leaving out the clause that would allow Cabinet Ministers to be appointed from outside Parliament. “This is a deliberate betrayal. The people want a professional and independent Cabinet, not one dominated by partisan loyalists,” he said.

Lowering qualifications for Secretary to the Cabinet — He warned that reducing the required experience for the Secretary to the Cabinet will compromise the quality of civil service leadership. “This will lower standards and erode public confidence in the civil service,” Chipili warned.

Illegitimate stay of Cabinet Ministers after dissolution of Parliament — “This is a recipe for abuse of office. Ministers must vacate their posts once Parliament is dissolved. Anything short of that is unacceptable,” Chipili declared.

CDF manipulation through MPs — Describing it as a “time bomb for corruption,” Chipili condemned the continued presence of Members of Parliament in council decision-making, especially regarding Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations. “This is a direct conflict of interest and undermines transparency,” he said.

Scrap presidential nominations — Chipili called for the complete removal of the President’s power to nominate MPs. “Why should a President still have power to manipulate the composition of Parliament when delimitation can ensure proper representation? This power must go,” he said bluntly.

Chipili accused the UPND of behaving exactly like the PF under Bill 10. “We are watching history repeat itself — auling party manipulating constitutional reform for its own survival instead of the public good,” he said.

He warned  that, “If clause after clause continues to serve partisan interests instead of strengthening democracy, Zambians must stand up and reject it, the same way they rejected Bill 10. This constitution is not for the ruling party it is for the people.”

Chipili’s remarks add fuel to the growing backlash from civil society and ordinary citizens who fear that Zambia’s hard-earned democratic gains are under attack.

Promise to Renew Contract Invalid – Court

GUEST ARTICLE: Promise to Renew Contract Invalid – Court

By Dickson Jere

A lady CEO of the company whispered to the Director of Human Resource and Administration that her contract of employment will be renewed when it comes to an end. The Vice Board chairman also ‘whispered’ to her that she will not only get a new contract but promoted because of her good appraisal and hard work. Therefore, she was expectant of getting another contract based on these assurances from the top bosses. Prior, her contract was renewed six times since she joined the company in 2004.

However, three months before the end of her contract, she received the notice that she will not be reemployed.

Disturbed with the news, she sued the company in the High Court on the grounds that there was “legitimate expectation” that she will be given a new contract based on conversations with her seniors. She added that her performance was excellent based on the annual appraisals. She, therefore, demanded for compensation for unlawful, unfair and wrongful non renewal of the contract.

The High Court dismissed her claims. Dissatisfied, she appealed to the Court of Appeal where a panel of three judges relooked at her case.

Was she promised the renewal?

“…a legitimate expectation of renewal can only arise where an employee is given assurances that his contract would be renewed, or the employer conducts itself in such a manner that leads an employee to be believe his contract will be renewed,” the Judges said.

“We must add here that the representation, assurance or confirmation made by the employer to the employee must be clear and unambiguous,” the Judges said.

Having set out the principles of “legitimate expectation”, the Court went ahead and analysed the facts of this case in which the said assurances came from her seniors.

“There is no evidence that the Board made any assurance to the Appellant that it would renew the contract,” the Judges said, adding that the individuals who spoke to her were not acting on behalf of the Board.

The Court further observed that as Director of Human Resources, the employee should have known that her contract can only be renewed by the Board of Directors.

“The circumstances of this case are that the fixed term contract in issue did not create a legitimate expectation of renewal and no representation or promise that the contract would be renewed was ever made by the Respondent through its Board,” the Judges said.

The Judges noted that the said contract did not even contain a renewal clause and each contract was treated differently and separately.

“Therefore, even if the Appellant’s performance was excellent or satisfactory, there was no obligation on the part of the Respondent to renew the contract,” the Judges added.

“Having made a finding that there was no legitimate expectation, it follows that the non-renewal of the fixed term contract was not wrongful, unfair and unlawful,” they concluded .

Case citation- Zimba v CFB Medical Centre Limited – Appeal No. 270/2022.

Interesting jurisprudence. The court still maintained that the principle of “legitimate expectation” is good law in Zambia but in this case it did not apply. I am not sure whether the Vice Board chairman cannot be said to represent the views the Board….it is a moot question!

“THE UNWAVERING COURAGE OF THE FIRST LADY: A STORY OF RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY

“THE UNWAVERING COURAGE OF THE FIRST LADY: A STORY OF RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY”

BY TIMMY

The current first lady of Zambia, Mutinta Hichilema, has been a pillar of strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Her unwavering courage and determination have inspired countless Zambians, and her story is a testament to the power of the human spirit.

One of the most poignant moments in her journey was the raid on President Hichilema’s house on the night of April 10th as zambia neared the 2021 year of general elections. The police, acting on the orders of the previous government, stormed the house, beating up family members and ransacking the property in search of the President. This traumatic event left an indelible mark on the first lady, and the pain of that night still lingers.

The first lady’s account of the events that transpired that night is a harrowing reminder of the brutality and thuggery that characterized the previous government’s regime. Her words, laced with emotion and conviction, paint a vivid picture of the fear and uncertainty that gripped the nation during that time.

Despite the trauma and pain inflicted upon her and her family, the first lady remains steadfast in her commitment to the values of justice, equality, and freedom. Her courage and resilience serve as a beacon of hope for all Zambians, and her story is a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up against tyranny and oppression.

As we reflect on the first lady’s journey, we are reminded of the profound impact that one person can have on a nation. Her unwavering courage and determination have inspired a generation of Zambians, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

The story of the first lady is an example of the power of the human spirit. Despite the adversity and trauma that she faced, she remains a shining example of courage, resilience, and determination. Her story will continue to inspire and motivate Zambians for generations to come.

Gossip kills – Dr Canisius Banda

Gossip kills

By Dr Canisius Banda

He killed himself. Imagine that. Yeah, he just couldn’t take it anymore.

He was an engineer, a university honours graduate. She was illiterate.

He had had many women before her. He was her first love.

Uyu mwamuna banamudyesa. Munthu ophunzira so ukakwatila mkazi osaphunzira. Uyu mkazi ni wamankhwala.

Everyone was stunned. How could such a marriage ever happen? This is what happens when a man is too educated, they said. He easily gets conned by cheap women.

The gossip never stopped. The disbelief was everywhere. But the wedding happened anyway. Amidst much pomp and splendour, they wedded. An eminent and much-loved Cabinet minister was even in attendance as guest of honour. Those that didn’t really give a damn, happily ate and drank, they made merry.

It wasn’t literacy he was looking for. It was love. It wasn’t a degree holder that he was looking for. It was a woman, any woman that his heart resonated with.

He was looking for a wife. And in her, warts and all, he had found exactly what his heart wanted.

So love being love, despite the vicious disapproval of most of his family members, especially his sisters, he married her anyway. You see, what they didn’t know was that the thing with love is that when it develops eyes, when it begins to see, it ceases to be love.

She was utterly disconsolate. The tears never stopped flowing from her eyes.

These are the words that kept playing on my mind. ‘..Yangu ubulanda kulinene ushele panse. Nashala neka cibusa wandi lelo waya. Panshi pa kosa, kumulu nako kwalepa…mayo nanaka mukulila…nashala neka, mayo nanaka mukulila..’

She was a sorry sight I tell you. Thank heavens for her faith and Catholicism. That’s what kept her sane.

The gossip was brutal, and it was relentless.

Tinali tinakamba. Ni hule uyu. Anacosa mamimba yambili. That’s why sabala. Chibalilo cake cinaonongeka. Ici cikwati nicamankhwala.

They went on and on saying such vile things behind their backs. That was their explanation for the couple’s childlessness.

And it badly hurt them both every time such malicious opinions reached their ears.

My beloved, my darling, I have given you a house. I have given you a car. I have given you a farm and other forms of wealth. I have given you my name and dignity. But my darling, I have failed to give you the one most important thing in our marriage. I have failed to give you a child. I do not know why. What I could I have given you. I do not know why God has denied me a child. Come what may, I want you to know that I love you, and will always do

Those were his very last words to her. She hears them in her mind to this day.

Every time they echo in her mind, tears laden with grief flow from her eyes like a burst dam. Then the dirge starts again.

‘Cibusa wandi lelo waya. We Lesa, pokeleleni umupashi wakwa uyu tata. Mwilolesha pa filubo fyonse acitile. Mumubike mucata cenu mwe tata. Nashala ninjikumbata mwe tata. Mayo nanaka mukulila…nashala neka, mayo nanaka mukulila.’

All women of childbearing age should turn up at their nearest health facility. This is for their own good. It is only a booster. Any woman that does not get the medicine will be risking her life and might die.

That’s what the government health authorities had said. The health education campaign was well-funded and well-executed. It was a resounding success. When it was over and the records were announced, nearly every woman of childbearing age had been covered. As targeted, nearly all women in the reproductive age range received the booster.

They had tried everything. Money wasn’t a problem. They consulted with top class gynaecologists, the very best. And they did everything which they were told to do. But nothing happened. And the years began to pile up.

Out of desperation, they even went out of the way and did the unorthodox, the unthinkable. They consulted with wacky traditional healers.

Make love right here whilst I smoke the two of you with herbs. That was what one magic man had told them.

So obliging, they made love in his hut whilst, barely clad, feathers all over him, he chanted this and that incantation over them, dry bones clanging in his hands, fog-like smoke billowing everywhere. It was beyond weird, I tell you.

Still nothing happened. The gossip just got worse.

Many well-wishers suggested sexual timing, positions and locations to them. Try doing it at dawn in a cemetery. It was as desperate  and crazy as that.

That is how they did it at midnight, they did it under a full moon. They did it from the front, they did it from the back, they even did it from the sides. They did it in the car, in the kitchen, on the roof of their house. They even did it in a maize field, a symbol of fertility, they were told.

They did everything, everywhere and in every way. In the end, it was so exhausting and frustrating. His spine of masculinity began to break.

Years and years went by. Still his wife never began to spit, there was no morning sickness. Pregnancy just refused to come. It began to seem as if it was a curse.

And they wondered just why all the available science just couldn’t help them. Why us? They wondered. Why had nature chosen them to be the bane of that cruel joke? Surely someone somewhere doesn’t want our marriage to succeed, groping in the dark, they conjectured. It must be witchcraft.

Whenever alone, he blamed himself for it all. He carried the shame of childlessness like Jesus carried the Cross, painfully and laboriously. Severely afflicted with self-doubt, he began to question his life’s choices. He strongly felt that he had failed his family.

Eventually he lost all confidence in his manliness. The accusing fingers pointed at him were like stinging darts to his heart and conscience.

Hundreds of thousands women had been given that booster. His wife was one of them. What he didn’t know was that all those hundreds of thousands of women that had been injected with the booster, each one of them, suffering individually and in silence, was battling a personal calamity. Each one of them was also failing to conceive. Because of the injection, an injection which the government said was for their own wellbeing, they all had now become infertile. And each one of them just didn’t know why.

There are just too many people in the world today, some demons say. This is not sustainable, they argue. Their solution, we must depopulate.

You will find some of these demons in leading world organisations. We must find reliable and effective ways to reduce the world’s population, they insist. And through healthcare, we are on course to doing that. In a few years’ time, we could reduce it by half, they boastfully report.

Pay attention, dear reader, just as an example, one scientist at the World Economic Forum [WEF] once said: ‘A strong global dictatorship should depopulate the world by 86 percent.’

Way after her husband had died, taken his own life, that is when she discovered that it was the injection which her own government had given her which was the reason she could not become pregnant.

Her infertility was because the injection that she received with all those other hundreds of thousands of women, a Tetanus vaccine, a booster as the government had called it, was contaminated with a hormone called the human chorionic gonadotropin [HCG].

You see, dear reader, when this hormone, the HCG, is circulating in the body of any woman, there is no way she can become pregnant.

This is how hundreds of thousands of women, all at once, under the guise of public healthcare, were rendered infertile. Told that their reproductive rights were being safeguarded by that very act, the opposite happened.

Was the contamination deliberate? You must ask, dear reader. Was the vaccine deliberately spiked, weaponized to achieve exactly what it did?

Even if it was, no one will admit that it was, dear reader. It was an error in the vaccine production line, quickly they will say, allaying fears and soothing you.

Yes, there is no dispute that vaccines save lives. There is also no dispute that vaccines can be and have been used as vehicles for harm.

Way after the deed had been done, when the contamination was discovered, the vaccine campaign was stopped and the remaining batches of the vaccine were withdrawn. Way too late. To this day, she cannot have children. And all the wealth that he had left her was grabbed from her by his relatives.

Umukashi te lupwa, they argued. Uwesu naya, uyu akopwa kumbi, they jibed.

To this day, she still bears his name. She carries it as if a shield from the hostility of society. All she has remained with is her faith in God and her undying love for him.

She remains in a state of perpetual mourning, the dirge by St Joseph’s Catholic Church Choir, a strong balm but still a repeating lament in her mind.

‘..Yangu ubulanda kulinene ushele panse. Nashala neka cibusa wandi lelo waya. Panshi pa kosa, kumulu nako kwalepa…mayo nanaka mukulila…nashala neka, mayo nanaka mukulila..’

Gossip, dear reader, is idle talk. It bears no virtue. Gossip is an occupation of weak minds, of lesser beings. It has its roots in malice, in schadenfreude. Often, visibly gloating, people say things about others that just aren’t true.

Dear reader, what people say about you is none of your business. Commonly, what people say about you says everything about the people speaking themselves. It only reveals their true character. Commonly, it says nothing about you.

In life, do not gag anyone. Let people say whatever it is they want to say. As the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius advises to this day, dear reader, your responsibility is to ‘be deaf to malicious gossip.’ Almost always, gossip is devoid of both value and truth.

You cannot control the opinions of others. And, perhaps, you should not. People should think in whatever manner is permissible by their person. But what you must do, is to control yourself, dear reader, how you respond to what other people say.

Further, never seek the approval of or validation from anyone. Be like the sun, whether praised or criticised, it continues to play its role. It is never swayed from its purpose. It always rises and shines anyway

Gossip kills. I pray that you won’t be its next victim.

He was her first love. The gossips weren’t to know. And she loved him to bits. Though still young, now too traumatised, chances are, he will also remain her last love.

Daily, she prays:

‘…Mayo Maria nyinefwe we nyina wa bonse…we nyina wa kwa Lesa uleba nefwe…we mutakatifu, mayo, nakucelela…mayo we nyinefwe, uletulombela kuli mwana…’

She belongs to the Legion of Mary, and always wears a rosary.

Godspeed!

ZAMBIA’S FOOTBALL DOMINANCE UNDER KAMANGA’S LEADERSHIP

ZAMBIA’S FOOTBALL DOMINANCE UNDER KAMANGA’S LEADERSHIP

Lusaka… Thursday March 27, 2025

Zambia has enjoyed remarkable regional football success under the leadership of Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga over the past four years.

In a statement, Kamanga highlighted the country’s dominance in regional tournaments, particularly the COSAFA competitions, where Zambia has consistently excelled.

Mr Kamanga noted that 2022 and 2024 stood out as exceptional years, with Zambia securing almost a clean sweep of regional trophies.

In 2024 alone, the nation clinched four out of six COSAFA titles and finished as runners-up in the men’s under-20 category.

The country emerged victorious in the under-17 (boys and girls), under-20 boys, and senior women’s competitions.

According to Kamanga, this impressive success is largely attributed to a strong grassroots program built on the FAZ 10-year strategic plan.

He emphasized that dominating the region is a crucial step toward achieving continental glory, stating that one cannot dream of conquering the continent without first conquering the region.

Looking ahead, Kamanga expressed optimism about extending this success to the continental level.

He acknowledged Zambia’s past triumphs, including the historic 2012 Chipolopolo victory and the all-conquering under-20 men’s team of 2017.

With significant work put into the under-15, 17, 20, and 23 teams, he believes Zambia is now well-positioned to challenge for continental and global honors.

Mr Kamanga pointed to the upcoming CAF tournaments in 2025, where five Zambian national teams — under-17, under-20, CHAN, Copper Queens, and Chipolopolo — have qualified, as a vital opportunity to actualize this dream.

He called on the Zambian football community to rally behind his movement, promising to maintain stability and continue the progress achieved under his leadership.

As he seeks re-election for the 2025–2029 term, Kamanga assured fans and stakeholders that his tenure would keep Zambian football on an upward trajectory.

With a track record of promises kept and a vision for greater success, Kamanga remains confident that Zambian football is on the verge of making its mark not just regionally but also on the continental and global stages.

Blessed Geza drops another ‘bombshell’ escalates scathing attacks

0

War veterans leader Blessed Geza, who is backing Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s faction within the ruling Zanu-PF, currently embroiled in a fierce succession battle with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s camp, has accused individuals around the President of being “criminals.”

In his latest statement, Geza warned that action would be taken against them and emphasized that the planned actions on March 31 would go ahead without any turning back.

“I am Blessed Geza, Cde Bombshell. I have returned. Our 31 March is going ahead. We are seeing there are people surrounding Emmerson who are making things difficult for others, who are making it hard for farmers to get paid. The problems they are the creators of them. I am now giving you their names. We start with Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

He wants to become president after Auxillia has taken her turn. He is the one taking all the contracts. Many companies.

The next person is Wicknell Chivayo. Wicknell has no paper to show which company he operates from, but he’s now calling himself Sir Wicknell Chivayo. He gets tenders and gets paid in advance. ED says he has his own money but the Gwanda project isn’t a secret. The money just disappeared while getting protected by ED.

Then there is Pedzisayi Scott Sakupwanya who charges 7 percent to share the loot with ED.

There is George Guvamatanga. He gets 10% of the deal. He has purchased properties all over the world South Africa, in UK, in Canada, being all your money.

There is another calling self Julius Charumbira who is at Newlands.

Then there is John Panonetsa Mangudya, former Reserve Bank Governor. He is my young man.

There is Mthuli Ncube, Minister of Finance.

There is Obey Chimuka.

There is this thief called Tungwarara. This one I hate him with every bit. He is demeaning the people who fought for the country.

Can’t you see he has no care for the blood she’d for this country?

There is Douglas Kwande, a friend of ED.

All these are Zviganandas, taking people’s money.

There are political criminals. The first political criminal who was a Selous Scout is Daniel Garwe. He is becoming a scak very soon. He is the one who said comrades are dogs- bokkies.

Then there is Owen Mudha Ncube. He has no Grade 7. He is behind killing all the Generals. He is at the forefront of terrorising children. He is busy taking people’s money.

His other job why he’s so close to ED, is to target young girls at MSU.

Then there is Tatenda Mavetera, Minister of ICT. Her history you all know it there is something she did with ED. There is Mabel Chinonona, she is a disaster of a war veteran. The way she hates war veterans make us wonder if she is a real comrade or the stories told by some people thr she was sent by the Special Branch.

Then there is Jacob Mudenda. He wants to be made Vice-President. He is the one behind Tshabangu. He is the one who reached the people’s choice MPs in order rto make their 2030 case work.

There is Tino Machakaire, Minister of Youth.

There is my friend Christopher Mutsvangwa, Zanu-PF Spokesperson.

Chris can you please reconsider what you’re doing in that group. We see that your behaviour you want ED above your own comrades, but if we ask you what has ED done since the war?

There is this young boy – the-PFutseki Geza, John Paradza. He doesn’t even have education you wonder what he’s looking for at government.

There is Lovemore Matuke. His father sold out many people in Gutu, but because ED was a spy for the Rhodesia Front. If you see the people working with ED they are all Special Branch operatives.

There is Ezra Chadzamira. You can see these people who they are. There is Goodwills Masomirembwa. He is a lawyer who was disbanded. He is a land baron who wants to remain holding to 2030 agenda.

There is Polite Kambamura.

There is Ziyambi Ziyambi. If he was asked to go context, he won’t win no one wants him but see he was made Minister of Justice. You know his history that at primaries he was defeated by Dinha.

There is Edson Chiherende, the Midlands Chairman of Zanu-PF, he is also a disaster of a person in Zanu.

All these people are criminals. So the war against these people has started.

There is Munyaradzi Machacha. His behaviour has embarrassed us. He’s my nephew, but on national issues, there is no favouritism.

There is Douglas Mahiya. He has a war vets league project, when he was ina plan to remove war vets along Shamva Rd.”

DA’s Zille calls for unity among Zimbabwean opposition leaders

Helen Zille, the federal chairperson of South Africa’s Democratic Alliance (DA), has urged Zimbabwean opposition leaders to unite and capitalize on the internal divisions within the ruling Zanu-PF party. Her remarks followed a meeting with Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) chairperson, Stephen Mazanza, last week.

Zille emphasized that the political environment in Zimbabwe is “toxic” and does not reflect the people’s desires for economic and political stability. She criticized the ruling party for failing to address the needs of Zimbabweans and stressed that it is time for opposition leaders to take action.

“Zimbabwe’s political giants have failed the masses, and sooner rather than later, Zimbabweans need to put enough or necessary pressure on the government, either in the form of petitions, meetings, or demonstrations, so that the Zanu-PF government yields to the people’s demands,” Zille said.

She also criticized the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) for its failure to implement policies that stabilize the economy. Zille suggested that Zimbabwe might need to abandon both the US dollar and the ZiG currencies, instead adopting the South African Rand. She proposed that the RBZ be placed under the administration of the South African Federal Reserve until it could regain stability.

Zille called on prominent opposition figures, including Nelson Chamisa, Elisabeth Valerio, and Tendai Biti, to form a united front and work together in a grand coalition to challenge Zanu-PF’s grip on power. She warned that the ongoing infighting within Zanu-PF could create a power vacuum, and the opposition must be ready to step in should the ruling party implode.

“There have been widespread calls for a unity government from within diehard Zanu-PF ranks, which again signals instability,” Zille said. “The opposition parties must be cautious, but they should also be proactive in forming a united front to ensure a stable future for Zimbabwe.”

Stephen Mazanza echoed Zille’s sentiments, describing the meeting as “pivotal” and underscoring the urgency of addressing Zimbabwe’s “catastrophic situation.” He criticized the government for its suppression of freedom of expression, corruption, and growing political purges.

“The state resources are being plundered for personal gain, enriching a select few while the masses suffer,” Mazanza said. “Police brutality and the silencing of dissenting voices are rampant. Vital institutions are being hijacked to serve the interests of the powerful few, undermining the foundations of our society.”

Mazanza also highlighted the internal instability within Zanu-PF, noting its potential to further destabilize the country. He emphasized that the opposition must prepare for all possible outcomes, ensuring that any power vacuum is filled by a government that truly represents the will of the people.

Both Zille and Mazanza urged Zimbabweans and opposition groups to remain vigilant and united in their efforts to bring about meaningful change, as they continue to challenge the status quo in the face of a crumbling political system.

KASHALA SURGES AHEAD IN RACE FOR FAZ PRESIDENCY

KASHALA SURGES AHEAD IN RACE FOR FAZ PRESIDENCY

By Mukwima chilala

With the last remaining province now concluded, all eyes are on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Congress set for Livingstone.

With less than 72 hours to the highly contested FAZ Annual General Meeting, the picture is becoming clearer regarding the possible outcome of this election.

Make no mistake, despite narratives suggesting that incumbent Andrew Kamanga is enjoying an easy ride, the reality is far from it.

This could be one of the tightest elections in recent memory, with three strong contenders going head-to-head, while two others are considered rank outsiders.

The main battle is on  grassroots strongman and senior police officer Adrian Kashala, incumbent Andrew Kamanga, and legal expert Keith Mweemba.

Meanwhile, former FAZ executive committee member Francis Hafwiti and Emmanuel Munaile are seen as outsiders in the race.

With provincial elections wrapped up following the conclusion of voting in Eastern Province, the stage is set for the decisive showdown.

ENTER ADRIAN KASHALA

Initially in the early days of the electoral process, much of the hype surrounded Kamanga and Mweemba, with Kashala seemingly ranked third.

However, those who understand FAZ electoral dynamics knew it was only a matter of time before “Kashman” gained momentum.

The provincial election results have confirmed that Adrian Kashala is a serious contender and could be on the verge of claiming the FAZ presidency in the next 72 hours.

HIS STRENGTHS

Kashala has built strong grassroots connections, particularly since FAZ amended its constitution to streamline the electoral college from about 400 members to just 86.

Having served as FAZ General Secretary and later as an administrator, he has spent the past eight years interacting with football administrators at all levels from lower leagues to the elite division.

This has been his biggest advantage heading into the Fairmount election.

While the current FAZ constitution has flaws, Kashala has a deep understanding of Zambian football regulations and has aligned his campaign with progressive development.

He has positioned himself as a unifying figure in a football community that has been deeply polarized over the past 15 years.

Moreover, his experience as FAZ General Secretary makes him the perfect transitional leader, offering both change and continuity.

Dear Councillors, we present to you Adrian Kashala—the people’s man.

Do the needful on Saturday and usher in the change Zambian football needs.

Wishing all candidates the best in Saturday’s FAZ elections, may the best man win and see you in Livingstone.

Kirsty Coventry relocates to Lausanne, Switzerland

0

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has praised former Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry for her outstanding contributions to Zimbabwe’s sporting achievements, highlighting her instrumental role in the nation’s rise on the global sports stage. Coventry, who was recently elected president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and will be based in Lausanne, Switzerland, was honoured at a state banquet dinner hosted by the President at State House in Harare last night.

During his address, Mnangagwa commended Coventry for her exceptional leadership, which saw remarkable successes across various sports during her tenure as Zimbabwe’s Sports Minister.

“Since her tenure, the Zimbabwe Senior Netball team, the Gems, qualified for the Netball World Cup on two occasions, the National Soccer Team, the Warriors, qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and the men’s Rugby Team scooped the African Championship, among others,” Mnangagwa remarked. “These are just some of the numerous achievements under her leadership that have placed Zimbabwe on the map in global sports.”

The President also acknowledged the significant strides made by Zimbabwe’s cricket teams, with both the Zimbabwe Chevrons and Lady Chevrons becoming more competitive, thanks to the improved administration of the sport. “We now host both Test and One Day International games on a more frequent basis,” Mnangagwa said. “The highlight of which was the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in 2023, which showcased Zimbabwe’s capabilities on the global cricket stage.”

Mnangagwa emphasized that Coventry’s leadership was pivotal in enabling Zimbabwe to host numerous regional and international sporting events, significantly boosting the country’s reputation as a favourable destination for global sporting activities.

“Her leadership has not only brought prestige to our nation, but it has also inspired future generations of athletes and reinforced the importance of sports in uniting people and nations,” Mnangagwa added.

Coventry, who made history as the first African woman to lead the IOC, expressed her gratitude for the support she received during her tenure and reassured the President and Zimbabweans that her new role at the IOC would continue to positively impact the global sporting landscape, including advocating for the development of sports in Zimbabwe.

The state banquet was a celebration of Coventry’s legacy as Zimbabwe’s Sports Minister and her new position as a global leader in the sporting community. With her leadership, Zimbabwe’s sports sector continues to thrive, and her influence will be felt on the international stage for years to come.

BRITISH GOVERNMENT COMMENDS ZAMBIA FOR ITS ROLE IN SADC

BRITISH GOVERNMENT COMMENDS ZAMBIA FOR ITS ROLE IN SADC

LUSAKA, Zambia, Thursday 27th March, 2025:

The British Government has commended Zambia for the role it plays in maintaining peace and security in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

British High Commissioner to Zambia Ms. Rebecca Terzeon says Zambia did a good job when the country chaired the SADC Troika Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Corporation in 2024.

Ms. Terzeon says Zambia’s tenure as Chairperson of the Troika Organ was very successful and Britain is proud of that record.

Speaking when she paid a courtesy call on Minister of Defence Mr. Ambrose Lufuma this morning at his office in Lusaka, Ms. Terzeon said the United Kingdom is concerned about the security situation in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“We are watching what is happening in the Democratic Republic of Congo and we are concerned. We are hoping that ongoing regional efforts to bring back peace to the DRC will succeed,” she said.

Ms. Terzeon said Zambia and Britain share long and historical relations and that the militaries of the two countries are working together well.

“We continue to provide support for pre-deployment of ZAMBATT troops and this goes to show how our relations are in supporting Zambia’s peacekeeping efforts,” said Ms. Terzeon.

And Minister of Defence Mr. Ambrose Lufuma thanked the British government for the support it is offering to the Kenneth Kaunda Peace Training Center.

Mr. Lufuma said the support Britain gives Zambia in capacity building of troops is vital as the country contributes soldiers to many peacekeeping operations around the world.

The Minister of Defence also assured the British High Commissioner that the 2026 General Elections will be held in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

Mr. Lufuma said government is committed to upholding the democratic tenets which the country is well known for.

“We have had seven Presidents since independence and all their elections were peaceful. As a government, we can assure you that the defence and security services are ready to ensure that the elections are held in a peaceful and free environment,” said Mr. Lufuma.

He said democratic elections are the hallmark of Zambia and next year’s general elections will just be a continuation of what Zambians are well known for.

MAN CITY AND CHELSEA COULD EARN £97M AT CLUB WORLD CUP

MAN CITY AND CHELSEA COULD EARN £97M AT CLUB WORLD CUP

Manchester City and Chelsea could earn up to £97m in prize money from this year’s Club World Cup.

The overall prize fund, shared between all 32 teams based on different factors, will be £775m, with £407m divided between all participating clubs and £368m awarded on a performance-related basis.

By comparison, last season’s prize money in the Premier League, external ranged from £175.9m for winners City to the £109.7m earned by bottom-placed Sheffield United.

Money awarded for participation is weighted by a ranking based on sporting and commercial criteria, meaning European clubs will earn more for taking part than teams from other continents.

The top-ranked European team by Fifa’s metrics will receive £29.6m just for participating – and they would secure the maximum prize available of around £97m for winning all of their group-stage games and then going on to win the tournament.

A group-stage win will net a team £1.5m, with £5.8m for reaching the last 16, £10.2m for reaching the quarter-finals, £16.3m for reaching the semi-finals, and £31m for winning the final.

As a result, Manchester City and Chelsea, the two Premier League sides in the competition who qualified thanks to their recent Champions League wins, could earn the biggest prize money ever awarded in club football over a seven-game format.

The expanded Club World Cup will take place in the United States from 15 June to 13 July.

Previously an annual tournament contested by seven teams, it will now feature 32 clubs and take place once every four years.

“The distribution model of the Fifa Club World Cup reflects the pinnacle of club football,” said Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Teams from each of the six international football confederations will participate: Asia (AFC), Africa (Caf), North and Central America (Concacaf), South America (Conmebol), Oceania (OFC) and Europe (Uefa).

There are 12 places available for European teams – the highest number of any of the confederations – and they are decided by clubs’ Champions League performances over the past four seasons.

Only two clubs per country can qualify, so 2022 Champions League finalists Liverpool are not included but 2021 winners Chelsea and 2023 winners City are.

Other European teams have qualified through a Uefa ranking system determined by clubs’ performances over the four seasons.

The success of this tournament, which has barely registered on the global football consciousness so far, largely hinges on clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

They have negotiated substantial revenue to be part of it – they should earn a minimum of £40m if they progress from the group stage and can earn up to £97m for winning it. That revenue is comparable to the money earned from taking part in the Champions League.

But not all clubs are equal. The smaller European clubs to have qualified, such as RB Salzburg, will only get around £15m if they qualify from the group. South American clubs such as Boca Juniors, River Plate and Flamengo are due a similar sum.

Teams in North America, Asia, Africa and Auckland City, the only club from Oceania, will get even less.

Of course, the biggest clubs will argue they are already stretched in terms of the football calendar and will miss out on pre-season revenue but this tournament now looks very worthwhile for those involved.

Those revenues will give Chelsea and Manchester City more room to stay on the right side of profit and sustainability regulations, but they could distort the competition with smaller leagues in Europe and beyond, in the same way that Champions League participation gives those involved a major financial advantage.

Fifa said this tournament will help grow the game beyond Europe and distribute money to clubs outside the traditional elite.

But the elite have leveraged their importance in negotiations to get a bigger share of the total prize fund. [BBC News]

Losing the Country, Surrendering it to a Dictatorship- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Losing the Country, Surrendering it to a Dictatorship

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba Wrote;

..the delimitation process, alloted seats for women, youth, and disabled, and expanding number of nominated MPs can benefit President Hichilema up to 90 new seats…

Today, I must celebrate and salute Laura Miti, who, despite being a major supporter of President Hakainde Hichilema, has chosen the country over partisan interests.

She has warned how dangerous the so-called non-contentious clauses, if passed, will undermine democracy and the rule of law.

The proposed constitutional amendments and roadmap released by Government present clear danger to our country, our growing democracy, create a central dictatorship and possible Life President.

It is clear that, because President Hichilema has failed to deliver on his 2021 campaign promises, and has failed to turn around the economy and cost of living crisis, he will likely suffer defeat at the 2026 polls.

He is aware of his extremely diminished political fortunes.

This is the reason that he has engaged in a sudden and rushed process, at this late hour, to attempt to secure fraudulent electoral victory despite these unfavorable circumstances.

HOW WILL HE DO IT?

Although we are aware of some of the clauses they intend to include, Let us check some of the proposals they have made public;
1. Delimitation Process
2. expanding number of nominated MPs.
3. Removal of term limits for Mayor and Council Chairperson.
4. Electoral Reform Technical Report from ECZ.

A casual analysis of the proposed constitutional amendments and short roadmap hints at the danger that is before us.

1. Delimitation of Constituencies; This process is under the Electoral Commission of Zambia and a pliant Chairperson, Mwangala Zaloumis.

The ECZ is mandated by the Constitution to conduct delimitation of provinces and electoral boundaries.

Delimitation is the process of drawing electoral boundaries of constituencies, wards and polling districts.

It is not necessarily about the creation of new constituencies although ECZ tries to make it appear so.

Article 58 (4) of the Constitution of Zambia states that the Electoral Commission shall determine the names and boundaries of constituencies and wards and section (5) of article 59 states that the Electoral Commission shall, at intervals of not more than ten years, review the names and boundaries of constituencies and wards.

Factors Influencing Delimitation

The ECZ is expected to consider history, diversity and cohesiveness of the constituency or ward population density, trends and projections, the number of inhabitants in each constituency or ward is reasonable, taking into account the means of communication and geographical features
ensuring that constituencies and wards are wholly within districts.

President Hichilema is aiming to take  advantage of this process and probably create upto 90 new seats, probably under the UPND strongholds and under those he can appoint under his own hand.

There is a proposal to create new seats for women, youths and differently abled all to be appointed by the President.

Government also wishes to expand the number of nominated MPs from 8 to an unkown number.

These are the most dangerous clauses that can allow the President to appoint or benefit for upto 90 new seats under this arrangement.

The removal of term limits for the Mayor, to join Councillors and MPs who do not have similar limits, may point us to their negative intentions to amend the current presidential term limits.

He tested the patient of Zambians by engineering the theft of Kabushi, Kwacha, Kawambwa and Pambashe seats. If these schemes succeeded, he now feels he can go the whole yard and steal the entire number required to run Parliament.

If these new schemes succeeded, they usher Hichilema into a second term where he may have a Parliament that can change the Constitution at will and promote his hegemony.

His men say he will be President until 2041. You better believe them.

CONCLUSION

There is absolutely no need for this legal drama and circus.

The process is being driven by President Hichilema and the UPND and therefore is not a wish of Zambians.

Zambians want a leadership that is focused at resolving difficulties they are facing today.

Let us fight for our country.

THERE IS ONE CLAUSE WHICH IS EQUAL TO THE WHOLE BILL10- Laura Miti

By Laura Miti

THERE IS ONE CLAUSE WHICH IS EQUAL TO THE WHOLE BILL10

I have just finished reading Minister Kasune’s statement to Parliament, on the proposed constitutional amendments.

Ehh, people!

I found the reason government is amending the constitution. No, it’s not women, youth or delimitation – never did think it was, but hey.

It’s one change, hiding innocuously in the fufu veve. The Queen bee, in a busy hive full of worker bees. All there to keep her safe.

It’s Number 7, in the statement.

Increase in the Number of Nominated Members

It reads:

The Constitution under Article 68(2) B) provides that there shall be not more than 8 nominated Members of Parliament.

Here is the Queen Bee:

It is proposed that Article 68(2) (B) be amended so as to increase the number – now the poison – TO A NUMBER THAT WOULD BE PROVIDED BY AN ACT OF PARLIAMENT.

Hau, President Hichilema!

I will grant this to you. Your team is cleverer than PF, who went overboard with mad clauses, until even a blind man could see them.

You have gone with just one killer one, that you hope people will not see. Of course you have added a few iffy proposals, to keep people distracted from the one clause that is equal to the whole Bill 10.

Look Zambians, if just this amendment passes, the President and the ruling party are untouchable. You see, exactly like Bill 10 tried to, the UPND is trying to give itself a limitless number of MPs that can be increased at any time, by a simple majority vote.

So, it would not matter if, in the next election, the ruling party loses lots of seats. All it needs is a small majority. Then, it can, by an Act of Parliament, provide for the President to nominate enough MPs to give him 2/3 majority. After that, it’s curtains. The Constitution is theirs.

They can amend, at leisure, the real clauses they want to.

Hau, Hau, Hau‍♀️!

President Hichilema, this is beyond wrong. It’s dictatorial. It’s against the idea of a constitution which fully creates all important institutions. Remember how we kept saying under Bill 10, that Parliament cannot be allowed to create itself. What has changed??

No! Stop yourself, Sir!

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS INSPIRED BY PURE SELFISHNESS AND FEAR OF LOSING – Hon. Binwell Mpundu

“PURE SELFISHNESS AND FEAR OF LOSING!” – BINWELL MPUNDU ACCUSES UPND OF POLITICAL MANIPULATION OVER CONSTITUTION AMENDMENTS

The FOX Newspaper

Hon Binwell Mpundu NKANA MP, has fiercely condemned the UPND government, accusing them of manipulating the constitution for political gain rather than addressing the country’s mounting challenges. Mpundu described the move as “pure selfishness and fear of losing” as the ruling party braces for possible losses in upcoming elections.

“I thought there was something very compelling to rush to amend the constitution without consulting the people,” Mpundu stated. “Kanshi they just want to increase more constituencies to compensate for the looming loss of seats, especially in urban areas where people have been hard hit by their incompetent leadership.”

Mpundu questioned the rationale behind increasing the number of constituencies, warning that the move would place a massive financial burden on the government. “Why would you increase constituencies to create more costs? You want to increase more people to be nominated when the country is faced with so many problems… What exactly is the justification?”

He argued that none of the proposed amendments would affect the next election and urged the government to focus on stabilizing the economy first. “The election can go smoothly without these changes. You can easily amend them after the next elections — especially when you stabilize the economy.”

Mpundu further accused the UPND of planning to use the additional nominated seats to reward political allies rather than representing marginalized groups. “Fellow citizens, you need to understand that adding 90 more new constituencies is not a small cost to government,” he said. “That’s more than half the number of the current MPs — and God knows how many more they want to nominate.”

He vowed to oppose the amendments, declaring that proceeding without consulting key stakeholders would amount to a betrayal of public trust. “I will not support the amendment of the constitution against the wishes of all major stakeholders who have said stop the process,” Mpundu said.

As public frustration over the high cost of living continues to grow, Mpundu’s sharp remarks reflect increasing political tension — and raise questions about whether the government’s priorities are more political than practical.

NEWS DIGGERS IS OFFSIDE AND BEING PRESUMPTIVE

NEWS DIGGERS IS OFFSIDE AND BEING PRESUMPTIVE

By Shalala Oliver Sepiso

The News Diggers newspaper, in today’s headline “PARLEY TO GET 90 MORE MPS … and more nominated members if amendment bill goes through”, is being presumptive and trying hard to cause outrage among the Zambian public using information that is not based on fact.

The tabloid should have said that the last  Delimitation ‘Commission’ (read report by the Electoral Commission of Zambia) under the PF government, recommended getting more than 90 New MPs. The paper should have said that, according to their guess, since the PF wanted to introduce 90 MPs under Bill 10, they now suspected that the UPND would also go by that now. They should have said that “that is the basis for our discussions now but no one has agreed with that report yet”.

Had they done that, their opinion wouldn’t have been an issue.

New Diggers can do better.

They keep jumping the gun these days. Not sure why when they have always been the best private newspaper in Zambia.

They were caught offside on TAZAMA Open Access. A few days, they made the whole country think that Agrofuel was the only company using TAZAMA..and that Open Access of TAZAMA had kicked in and Agrofuels was blocking others from using the storage tanks, and hence the pipeline. Later, it was discovered that their story was incorrect as Open Access only kicks off in April. And Agrofuels is not even among the three companies supplying fuel in April 2025.

News Diggers are offside again here today.

The paper should wait for the draft. Dates for the roadmap have been given. Where is the rush?

The issue of building a new chamber for the parliament is also presumptive and meant to cause outrage among the public that it is wasteful expenditure. The intention of the newspaper is clear since the minister cleared all doubts on the contentious issues the opposition thought would be there in the draft bill for constitution amendments such as the removal of the running mate, the removal of the 50% + 1 vote clause, removal of presidential term limits clause and change of clause that makes the presidential term limit to be 5 years.

CONCERNS MOUNT OVER UPND GOVERNMENT’S RUSHED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

CONCERNS MOUNT OVER UPND GOVERNMENT’S RUSHED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

…government itself has admitted that Zambians have not been given the opportunity to contribute to identifying which constitutional clauses should be amended says Banda

Lusaka… Thursday March 27, 2025

The UPND government’s ongoing constitutional amendment process has come under intense scrutiny, with critics accusing the administration of undermining democratic principles and electoral integrity.

Former Kasenengwa Member of Parliament, Sensio Banda, has raised concerns about the transparency and inclusivity of the process, suggesting that the amendments serve a political agenda rather than national interest.

According to Banda, while some of the proposed amendments appear progressive on the surface, they seem to distract from a broader, more controversial objective.

He argued that constitutional changes should be built on broad national consensus, ideally managed by an independent commission, technical committee, or popular assembly.

Instead, the amendments presented to Parliament by the Minister of Justice Princess Kasune have been described as an executive-driven initiative with minimal public participation.

Hon Banda noted that in a ministerial statement, the Justice Minister herself inadvertently admitted that Zambians were not given the opportunity to contribute to identifying which constitutional clauses should be amended.

Public consultations were reportedly scheduled to run from May 21 to June 21, but by then, the executive had already determined which areas of the Constitution would be altered.

Critics argue this approach undermines democratic trust and sidelines key stakeholders, including civil society, opposition parties, and legal experts.

Further concerns were raised about the executive’s dominance over the parliamentary process.

Hon Banda asserted that the government had preemptively dictated key legislative steps such as select committee composition, debate schedules, and reading timelines — processes that should be independently managed by Parliament.

He warned that this top-down approach stifles genuine scrutiny and compromises the independence of the legislative body.

A closer examination of the proposed amendments has led to speculation that the true objective may be related to electoral delimitation, a process that could significantly impact the 2026 elections.

Reports indicate that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has finalized a delimitation report, though it remains undisclosed.

Hon Banda expressed fears that the process could be manipulated using contentious 2022 census data, potentially giving the ruling UPND an electoral advantage.

Dr. Bayani was cited as one of the critics questioning the credibility of the census data, arguing that Southern Province’s population growth appeared to be underestimated, while Western Province showed disproportionate growth compared to Luapula and Muchinga.

Hon Banda warned that if electoral boundaries are drawn based on disputed figures, the resulting delimitation could undermine fair representation.

Hon Banda further suggested that the executive’s tight grip on the constitutional amendment process could be a strategic attempt to manipulate electoral outcomes in favor of the UPND ahead of the 2026 elections.

He called on Zambians to remain vigilant, emphasizing that constitutional amendments must reflect the will of the people rather than partisan interests.

He urged civil society, opposition parties, and citizens to unite in demanding transparency, inclusivity, and independent oversight for both the constitutional review and delimitation process.

“If left unchallenged, this rushed process threatens Zambia’s democratic integrity and electoral credibility,” Banda warned, adding that Zambians must resist any attempt to prioritize political advantage over national well-being.

IT’S ALL LIES, MANIPULATION: DELIMITATION, INCREASING WOMEN’S, YOUTH, AND PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES’ REPRESENTATION DOESN’T NEED CONSTITUTION TO BE AMENDED- Fred M’membe

IT’S ALL LIES, MANIPULATION: DELIMITATION, INCREASING WOMEN’S, YOUTH, AND PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES’ REPRESENTATION DOESN’T NEED CONSTITUTION TO BE AMENDED

Mr Hakainde Hichilema has not been honest about the true reasons for his manoeuvres to amend the Constitution.

Initially, his main reason for seeking to amend the Constitution was to cure lacunae. Today, it is to increase the participation of women, young people, and those living with disabilities. And in addition or as a by the way, to effect delimitation of the constituencies that have become too vast geographically and whose populations have become too big and as such deserve to be subdivided.

I hate liars and manipulators. Manipulation has no substance and has no deep roots. Manipulation is synonymous with opportunism.

Manipulation is always distressing, but sometimes it is dangerous; and when you get it manifested in the head of the State, and it has become the policy of a government,  it is about time it should be resolutely put away.

I cannot think of a more contemptible man – my power of imagination fails me to bring  into my mind’s eye a more despicable man than the man that tries to manipulate, dribble the whole nation.

The truth is Mr Hichilema seeks and attempts to justify his push for constitutional amendments by citing the need to increase youth, women, and persons with disabilities’ representation in Parliament and to effect delimitation of constituencies. We reject this justification as misleading. Let me start with the last   – delimitation.

There is no relationship between delimitation and constitutional amendment. These two exercises are entirely separate from each other. First, delimitation is provided for in Article 58 and Article 59 of the Constitution. The amendment of the constitution is provided for under Article 79.

Second, the power to carry out delimitation is given to the Electoral Commission of Zambia while the power to amend the Constitution is given to the National Assembly.  Delimitation can be conducted without amending the constitution. According to Article 58, the purpose of delimitation is to review the names and boundaries of constituencies and wards. ECZ can alter boundaries and rename the constituencies, but it has no power to recommend an increase in the number of constituencies. The idea behind delimitation is to maintain a proper ratio between the number of people in a given constituency and Member of Parliament representing them. For instance, if one constituency has 500, 000 people and the neighbouring one has 100 people, the ECZ can redraw the boundaries of the two constituencies to ensure that the people are evenly distributed between the two constituencies.

There is nowhere in the law where ECZ is given the power to recommend the creation of new constituencies. If the argument is that making recommendations for an increase in the number of constituencies is international best practices, the counter to that is that even those international best practices have to be domesticated. This explains why international treaties that Zambia signs are not binding until they have been domesticated in local legislation.

It would be absurd to suggest that just because delimitation must be carried out every ten years, then the constitution should also be amended every ten years. There is no relationship between the two.

Let me end with the issue of increasing the representation of women, the youth, and people living with disabilities.

The current Constitution, under Article 259, already mandates the president to ensure equal representation of these groups in public appointments. The problem is not the Constitution—it’s the government’s failure to respect and implement its provisions.

If the true goal is to enhance the political participation of these marginalized groups, we propose a more effective and immediate alternative. We call upon all political parties to ensure enactment under Article 60 of the Constitution, which envisages that there will be subsidiary legislation to make provisions for regulation of political parties. Article 60(2) (a) says a political party shall promote the values and principles specified in the Constitution.

To ensure the enactment of subsidiary legislation to give effect to PART V REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE of the Constitution, which says in Article 45. (1) (d) the electoral systems shall ensure gender equity in the National Assembly or Council. We implore the ruling UPND to join this commitment if they are sincere about fostering diversity by enacting the Act envisaged by Article 60. We stand ready to sign a formal accord and engage in discussions on the implementation of this proposal, which would immediately increase representation without subjecting the Constitution to partisan alterations.

This would guarantee a significant increase of women and youth representation in the National Assembly without the need for constitutional amendments.

PROF LUO QUESTIONS UPND’s SUDDEN INTEREST IN WOMEN

PROF LUO QUESTIONS UPND’s SUDDEN INTEREST IN WOMEN

…says women have been marginalized under UPND Government with only four of them appointed Cabinet Ministers

Lusaka… Wednesday March 26, 2025

Former Minister of Gender Professor Nkandu Luo has called upon Zambians to be vigilant and question the government’s intentions regarding the proposed constitutional amendments.

Prof. Luo said the process lacks inclusivity and transparency particularly when it comes to women’s participation.

She said previous attempts to amend the Constitution involved extensive consultations with citizens across the country.

Prof. Luo said it is a concern that the current process is rushed and lacks a clear budget allocation.

She has criticized the government for claiming that the amendments will benefit women yet no meaningful consultations have taken place.

Prof Luo has noted that  women have been marginalized in the current administration with only four women holding ministerial positions, compared to one-third of the cabinet during her tenure.

She has also questioned the government’s sudden interest in women’s rights, particularly when the Ministry of Gender was reduced to a department under the Office of the Vice President.

“Where is the Ministry of Gender for us to be satisfied that the president loves us. We got a bill for Gender and equality, we still had to call for a commission. Once that Ministry was removed, the Gender Commission has never been established. What is in the Constitution of their party to ensure that women have not been given a platform,” Prof. Luo said.

“We had risen to one third in the Cabinet I served, but today we have four women, the Minister of lands, community development, Labour and justice. This is important for us to sit and reflect. We were privileged to have Presidents who introduced ministry of gender. It has been reduced to a department under the office of the vice president.”

She also points out that the Gender Commission has never been established, despite the existence of a bill.

Prof. Luo has since urged citizens to be cautious and not be misled by the government’s claims.

“We have not done any benchmarking or research… It is not possible for anybody like women to say we want proportional representation, We will lose out. Time has come for Zambians to reflect and ask questions and not allow to be used. Those women supporting the proposed amendments should go and read,” she stated.

NO CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS BEFORE 2026

NO CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS BEFORE 2026

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

President Hakainde Hichilema, Zambians are fed up. While your government wants to  rush to amend the Constitution, ordinary citizens are battling a collapsing economy, unbearable prices, and shattered promises. Why the rush? Is this truly for the people, or is it yet another scheme to protect political interests?

Zambians are not interested in constitutional amendments that serve politicians. What they need is leadership that delivers results. If you insist on changing the Constitution, then let’s use this opportunity to add accountability clauses that hold leaders responsible. No more empty speeches. No more excuses. No more failed leadership.

These are the proposed accountability clauses:

1. If you fail to fulfill your campaign promises, you must step down. Zambians voted based on your words. If those words were lies, you have no right to lead!

2. If you fail to reduce the exchange rate by 14:00, you must step down. The Kwacha is collapsing. The economy is on life support. No more explanations—fix it or leave!

3. If you fail to reduce the price of a 25kg bag of mealie meal to K50, you must step down. Zambians are going to bed hungry while leaders sit comfortably. If you cannot provide affordable food, step aside!

4. If you fail to reduce the price of fertilizer to K250, you must step down. Agriculture is the backbone of Zambia’s economy. If you cannot support farmers, you are failing the nation.

5. If you fail to end load shedding, you must step down. Power cuts are destroying businesses, hospitals, and schools. Zambians demand electricity, not excuses!

6. If you fail to reduce the cost of living, you must step down. Prices are skyrocketing, and salaries remain stagnant. If you cannot bring relief, step down!

7. If you fail to cut down on foreign trips, you must step down. You cannot continue gallivanting around the world while the nation suffers. Fix Zambia first!

8. If you fail to reduce the cost of doing business, you must step down. High taxes, expensive licenses, and bureaucracy are killing businesses. Make Zambia investor-friendly or leave office!

9. If you fail to stop police brutality, you must step down. Zambians should not live in fear of the very police meant to protect them. End the brutality, or step aside!

10. If you continue with political arrests, you must step down. Democracy is not about silencing opposition through intimidation. Respect human rights, or go home!

11. If you fail to fight corruption, you must step down. Corruption is robbing the country of progress. If you cannot stop the rot, you have no business leading!

12. If you borrow from the IMF, you must step down. Zambia cannot keep sinking in debt while leaders make reckless financial decisions. Stop selling the country or resign!

13. If you continue making empty speeches instead of taking action, you must step down. Zambians are tired of talk. We need action, not endless speeches!

14. If you fail to stop political intimidation, you must step down. Free speech is a fundamental right. No Zambian should live in fear of expressing their opinion!

15. If you fail to reduce the price of fuel, you must step down. The cost of transport is crippling businesses and families. If you can’t fix it, step aside!

16. If you commission unfinished CDF toilets, you must step down. Stop deceiving Zambians with substandard and incomplete projects. We deserve better!

17. If you fail to revamp the economy, you must step down. Leadership is about solutions. If you can’t fix the economy, someone else will!

18. If you don’t condemn and arrest violent party cadres, you must step down. No Zambian should be terrorized by political thugs. Clean up your party or resign!

19. If you are a liar, you must step down. Leadership is about trust. If you cannot be honest with the people, you are unfit to lead!

Enough Is Enough – Zambians Demand Accountability!

Mr. President, this is not a joke. Zambians are not your personal experiment. The country is suffering and you want to be  playing games with people’s lives. No more deception, no more excuses, no more betrayal!

No Constitutional Amendments Before 2026. Fix the economy first‼️

UPND’S ‘REFORMS’ OR POLITICAL ENGINEERING? STEPHEN NYIRENDA SLAMS TIMING & ARTICLE 7

The FOX Newspaper

LUSAKA — Opposition leader Stephen Nyirenda, President of the Munthu Party, strongly criticizes the UPND government’s proposed constitutional amendments, calling them a calculated move to solidify their hold on power ahead of the upcoming election. He highlights the amendments, especially Article 7, as a direct threat to Zambia’s democracy.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Nyirenda accuses the UPND of political hypocrisy, pointing out that the same party, which once fiercely opposed Bill 10 under the PF government, is now pushing constitutional changes that appear to benefit the ruling party. He questions how UPND, which once stood against manipulating the Constitution, can now justify doing the same for political gain.

While Nyirenda acknowledges a few positive reforms, like improving fairness in Constituency Development Fund (CDF) distribution and increasing representation for marginalized groups, he warns that these positive changes are being used as a smokescreen for more troubling goals.

Nyirenda raises concerns about proposed amendments such as allowing elections to proceed even if a candidate resigns, or lowering qualifications for the Secretary to Cabinet. He warns that these amendments open the door to political manipulation and interference. However, he directs his harshest criticism towards Article 7, which seeks to increase the number of nominated MPs. Nyirenda calls it an outright power grab, saying it allows the president to flood Parliament with loyalists who will approve any proposal without question, undermining democracy and eliminating meaningful checks and balances.

In the statement, Nyirenda also questions the timing of these amendments, given the upcoming election. He suggests the UPND’s rush to amend the Constitution is a desperate attempt to secure political survival, particularly as their popularity wanes and members begin defecting. “UPND knows it’s losing ground,” Nyirenda writes. “These amendments are nothing more than a last-ditch effort to cling to power before facing the voters.”

Nyirenda urges Zambians to reject Article 7 and any other amendments that threaten democracy. “This isn’t reform — it’s manipulation,” he says. “Zambians must remain vigilant and defend our Constitution from political exploitation.”

He ends his statement with a powerful call to unity: “Zambia is for Zambians, and only Zambians will develop Zambia.”

WHY THE SUDDEN CHANGE OF HEART CONCERNING THE CONSTITUTION? YOU HYPOCRITES!!!- Tobias T. Banda

WHY THE SUDDEN CHANGE OF HEART CONCERNING THE CONSTITUTION? YOU HYPOCRITES!!!

Just before the run up to the 2021 General elections there was proposed ammendments to the Constitution dubbed “Bill 10”. The Bill had many progressive clauses which included the now “much publicised” proportional representation of Women, Youth and the Differently abled in Parliament and other elective positions.

However, this Bill was short down with impunity and there was massive celebration and jubilation among the UPND officials and members of Parliament. They even shared big bite 2 from hungry Lion at Community House.

Today the very UPND that shot down and buried Bill 10 which contained more progressive clauses than their current draft Constitution which was developed in the dark are back to claim that this time around our population should accept their proposal just a few months before the elections.

Isn’t it common sense to hold the view that what was good then must be good now and what was bad then must be bad now?

As the old adage goes “What’s good for the goose must be good for the gander.”

What was bad when they were in opposition must be bad when they are in power?

The truth of the matter is that they want to remove the fifty plus one (50+1) and bring back the formula of winning Presidential elections by simple majority. They also want to remove the running mate clause so that the Vice President should not be elected by the people but be appointed by the President from among the MPs. The other secret weapon they want to do is to extend the Presidential term of office from 5 years to 7 years.

These are the three major reasons they want to bring in the amended Constitution but they are only mentioning things that will seem to catch the eye of the unsuspecting Zambians such as inclusion of Women, Youths and the differently abled which can be done without any ammendments.

I therefore stand with the masses in saying NO to the unnecessary and costly Changes to the Republican Constitution. I also urge all well meaning Zambians, young and old to reject the proposed Constitutional ammendments.

I call upon my fellow Youths to rise up, voice out and defend our Constitution by all means necessary.

Above all I implore all Opposition and Independent Members of Parliament to reject this uniclusive Constitution ammendment process and to reject the proposed Constitution itself.

SAY NO TO ILLEGAL AMENDMENTS OF OUR CONSTITUTION WHICH IS MEANT TO SERVE & BENEFIT THE FEW PEOPLE WHO ARE IN POWER.

Zambia is not for a selected few. Zambia is for all of us.

I remain your friend and brother

SUSPEND FUNDING TO NGOCC, WOMEN IN POLITICS URGES DONORS

SUSPEND FUNDING TO NGOCC, WOMEN IN POLITICS URGES DONORS

…channel funds directly to political parties on which they are contesting says Phiri

Lusaka……Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

Active Women in Politics have rejected the Constitutional amendments before the 2026 General Elections.

Speaking at media briefing attended by 8 other political parties, Socialist Party National Chairperson for Resource Mobilisation Olivia Phiri said amending the constitution now is only going to benefit the UPND because they are the only ones who understand it.

Ms Phiri said the women in politics are calling for peace during elections, rather than constitutional amendments at this time.

Ms Phiri said women in politics will not allow delimitation to be used as collateral to other clauses that may not be easy to understand.

She has expressed her disappointment with organizations like the Non-Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) and the Women’s Lobby, which she believes have become extensions of the UPND government.

She warned these organizations to stop misrepresenting women in politics and instead focus on actualizing their goals.

Ms Phiri also questioned the NGOCC’s programs aimed at increasing women’s representation and urged donors to channel funds directly to political parties rather than NGOCC.

“I was listening NGOCC presser that women in politics have agreed. I don’t remember any invitation to send to women. It is very sad that organisations like NGOCC and Women’s lobby have become a branch for the UPND government. Instead of speaking on behalf of those they represent, I am warning you not to continue misrepresenting us,” Ms Phiri lamented.

“NGOCC has never supported women. As women in politics, it is our call, if there is an package mwema donors, please channel to political parties. We know what is going on in the country, we have a government thag does not support democracy.  The Constitution of Zambia is a people’s document. You cannot win an election in 2026 because of your failed performances.”

She has also asked how constitutional amendments would benefit women when the President is not respecting clauses in the Constitution that gives him powers to appoint more women, youth and Persons with disabilities to decision making positions.

“I was surprised to hear the President say that the Constitutional Amendment will benefit the women. In the current Constitution, there are clauses that gives the President powers to appoint women…. but we have a President who has scrapped off the Ministry of Gender and reduced it to a Ministry department. Will the amendnent take medicine to hospitals? What the women want is good health and areduction of high cost of living” she said.

No Contract Renewal For RTSA Boss – Court

No Contract Renewal For RTSA Boss – Court

Zindaba Soko was RTSA CEO until January 2019 when his contract expired. He had notified his superiors of his intention to renew his contract for another three years but they did not respond. However, he continued working for nine months without a contract until when he received a “termination letter”. In the interim, they even appointed him RTSA board member.

He then sued RTSA arguing that the nine months he worked constituted a renewal of his contract and therefore the termination was unlawful. He also demanded that RTSA should sell him vehicle – one he was using- during that nine months period and be paid full benefits.

The High Court ruled that the nine months did not constitute a renewal of contract and therefore there was no unlawful dismissal to entitle him full benefits. However, the Court ruled that he, nevertheless, was entitled to buy the vehicle he was using during that nine months.

The vehicle issue did not go well with RTSA which then appealed to the Court of Appeal. Soko also launched cross appeal.

A panel of three Judges heard the case. They agreed with the High Court that the nine months he worked without a contract was not a renewal and that the same was clearly stated in his contract.

“Instead, such continued work is regarded as ‘temporary arrangement’ not an extension of the original contract and in such a case, the employee is only entitled to pro rata remuneration for additional work but does not acquire a legally renewed contract,” the Judges said.

The Court observed that RTSA had in fact paid him all his dues including the pro rata benefits that he worked for during nine months.

“Public policy reinforces the principle that contracts freely entered into must be upheld strictly according to their terms,” the Judges said, adding that as CEO he knew what he signed for in the contract.

“The Respondent (Soko) employment ended naturally through effluxion of time upon reaching its agreed duration, distinct from termination, which involves prematurely ending a contract by employer or employee action,” the Judges said.

On the purchase the second vehicle, the Judges disagreed with the High Court and said he was not entitled since the nine months was not a contract.

“Without a renewed contract, there is no legal basis for entitlement to a second vehicle,” the Court said, adding that such finding was perverse and amount to unjust enrichment.

“The trial court erred in granting the Respondent entitlement to purchase a personal to holder vehicle,” the Court said.

The Court further ordered that Soko should pay RTSA legal costs for the case both in the High Court and Court of Appeal, which the lower Court had not ordered.

Case citation – Roads Transport and Safety Agency v Zindaba Soko – Appeal No. 84 of 2023 and Judgement delivered on 26th February, 2025.

This case underscores the need to pay attention to the terms and conditions of the contract of employment before signing. In this contract, there was a clause that clearly stated that continued working after contract had expired does not constitute renewal.

Former Man Utd player builds $5.5bn empire that’s 7 times Cristiano Ronaldo’s net worth

Get to know Louis Saha, a former Manchester United striker and France football (soccer) player. The former footballer has transitioned from a successful football career to an even more impressive business venture, amassing a fortune that dwarfs that of his ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Saha, who played for the Red Devils between 2004 and 2008, won two League titles including a Champions League and League Cup under Sir Alex Ferguson. After retiring in 2013 following spells at Everton, Tottenham, Sunderland, and Lazio, the Frenchman shifted his focus to entrepreneurship. His company, AxisStars, has since skyrocketed in value, now estimated at a staggering £4.3 billion ($5.5 billion) — more than seven times Ronaldo’s reported £600 million ($775 million) net worth, according to Belfast Live.

Co-founded with marketing expert Kate Hamer and tech executive Patrice Arnera, AxisStars serves as a networking platform linking professional athletes, entertainers and trusted partners with the aim of helping them manage their careers or build their brands. The firm boasts connections with over 550 former athletes, offering career guidance and tailored services.

Saha revealed that the venture has been more fulfilling than his footballing days. “I still get asked for advice by different people on a daily basis,” he told The Guardian. Recounting a recent example, he explained, “My agent called me to say he had a talented French footballer who he wants to bring to England, and asked me for advice on how to create a tailor-made training programme. I put him in touch with people I used to work with.”

He added, “This kind of player could join Axis as he can then search for a personal coach in his region. It is a hard process but it’s so rewarding, because if I can help 100,000 people, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”

Meanwhile, Ronaldo remains one of the wealthiest athletes in history, becoming the first active footballer to surpass $1 billion in career earnings. His Al-Nassr contract alone brought in £220 million ($285m) last year, supplemented by endorsements with Nike, Whoop, and Binance. The Portuguese icon also profits from his CR7 brand, which includes hotels, fragrances, and a massively popular YouTube channel with over 74 million subscribers.

Despite Ronaldo’s financial success, Saha’s business acumen has propelled him into an even higher financial echelon, proving that life after football can be just as lucrative.

Nelly reveals why he married Ashanti

Nelly has opened up about his decision to marry Ashanti shortly after they rekindled their relationship in 2023.

Speaking with Bootleg Kev on Real 92.3 LA, the rapper revealed that Ashanti’s pregnancy played a key role in their decision to tie the knot.

“Once we found out that she was pregnant… We didn’t even have to talk about it,” Nelly shared. “I was like, ‘Yo, let’s just knock this out because we’re going to be doing so much, and everything’s moving fast.’ I didn’t want her to be a baby mama—we already knew where we were in life. If we got back together like this, then this must be what it’s meant to be.”

Ashanti gave birth to their son, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, in July 2024—her first child and Nelly’s fifth. Their journey as a couple has been filled with ups and downs, having first broken up in 2013 before reconciling in 2023. They officially confirmed their reunion in September of that year.

Watch a recent episode of the Make Your Mark podcast below and subscribe to our channel PanaGenius TV for latest episodes.

Kev speculated whether sparks first reignited when the two reunited onstage during the 2021 Verzuz battle between Fat Joe and Ja Rule in New York City. However, Nelly dismissed the idea, explaining that he wasn’t looking to stir any tension.

“When I went to Verzuz, I had someone with me,” he said. “I didn’t want things to be awkward. When I walked in, her mother saw me, and I knew she’d go back and tell Ashanti I was there. We didn’t even speak then. I just went over, gave her a hug to break the ice, and that was it. We didn’t talk again for another eight or nine months—maybe even a year. Everything happens for a reason.”

As for the future, Ashanti recently shared that she hopes to have more children with Nelly, including a daughter.

Police called to Kanye West’s Yeezy HQ after a swastika is graffitied on the side of the building

Police were called to Kanye West’s Yeezy HQ in Hollywood after a swastika was graffitied on the side of the building after the rapper’s vile antisemitic posts.

The photos were reportedly taken on Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, California, on March 23 at 7am.

The local who spotted the graffiti and took the photos said she was ‘shocked’ and got a ‘cold chill’.

A few hours after the symbol was spotted, a man tried to remove the swastika, and the police were called to the scene.

Hours later it was covered up with grey paint but the faded outline of the shape was still visible.

The building was bought by Kanye West in March 2023 and has largely been left empty while construction work takes place.

Recall the rapper recently faced backlash for antisemitic slurs he made on the social media website X.

Posting on the site, Kanye said ‘I love Hitler’ and ‘I’m a Nazi’ – resulting in him being dropped from his talent agency earlier this year.

The local – who wants to remain anonymous – said: ‘I got a chill down my spine as it is a big old swastika.

‘I am from the area, there is always a lot of graffiti as it is an artsy area, but I have never seen anything like this – it was very shocking.

‘We have seen Kanye a few times, when he first bought the building, he had a fashion show in there.’

Just last week Kanye fans were seen wearing swastika shirts in the line to audition for his revived Sunday Service in LA.

The disgraced rapper has praised Hitler and even sold merch featuring the symbol of the German Nazi Party and those ideals seem to be reflected in his supporters as one of the choir hopefuls sported a top with a swastika on it.

This came after the rapper posted another shock stream of posts, showcasing a new set of shirts and logos emblazoned with swastikas to his 33.3 million followers on the platform.

Duma Ndlovu faces legal and financial woes as Chicco Twala locks filming location

Duma Ndlovu faces legal and financial woes as Chicco Twala locks filming location

Renowned filmmaker and producer Duma Ndlovu is facing not only legal issues but also a financial dispute with his longtime friend, Sello “Chicco” Twala.

According to ZiMoja, Twala recently took matters into his own hands by locking the gates of a property used for filming My Brother’s Keeper after Ndlovu allegedly failed to pay rent and electricity for five months.

Twala, who rented out his Zuurbekom mansion to Ndlovu’s production company, became frustrated after being owed thousands of rands. Ndlovu’s financial troubles deepened last year when his personal and business bank accounts were reportedly frozen following his arrest by the Hawks on tax evasion charges totaling R25 million. He is currently out on bail, with his two accountants also facing charges.

Following his arrest, Ndlovu suffered a major career setback, losing all his shows on MultiChoice platforms. My Brother’s Keeper and Umkhokha: The Curse were canceled on Mzansi Magic, while Mzansi Wethu is airing the final episodes of Sibongile & The Dlaminis.

A source told ZiMoja that Twala had repeatedly tried to reach Ndlovu for payment but was ignored. Frustrated, he decided to take action. “Chicco locked the gates to ensure he got his money. When the production team and actors arrived, the security guard informed us that work would not proceed until Duma Ndlovu settled his debt,” the source said.

Another insider who witnessed the standoff said to ZiMoja that cast and crew were initially confused, thinking it was a joke, but soon realized the seriousness of the situation. “We waited for hours while our boss scrambled to pay Chicco. Eventually, we were told that Duma had asked a friend to transfer the money so we could resume filming,” the source added.

Ndlovu and Twala have a long-standing professional relationship, with Twala composing soundtracks for several of Ndlovu’s productions, including Muvhango, Sibongile & The Dlaminis, and My Brother’s Keeper. Twala is also behind the theme song for Modjadji, a controversial drama series on Mzansi Magic.

Bishop TD Jakes discloses the cause of his major health incident following medical scare

0

Celebrity pastor T.D. Jakes has disclosed that the life-threatening medical emergency he suffered last year was a heart attack.

He shared this in an exclusive interview on TODAY.

“I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance and fussing that it happened onstage, by the way, because I didn’t want it to happen, and the doctor leaned over my ear and said, ‘You had a massive heart attack,'” Jakes told Craig Melvin on TODAY on March 26.

Jakes, 67, was preaching on Nov. 23, 2024, at The Potter’s House when he experienced a medical emergency.

Video of the moment shows Jakes pausing onstage and shaking after lowering the microphone. Church officials then rush the stage to help him before the video cuts out.

“The reason I didn’t realize it was because I had none of the symptoms that they say,” Jakes told Craig about the heart attack. “No numbness, no sharp pain, no anything. I just kind of drifted off to sleep. I didn’t know what it was, but I almost died.

“(The doctor) said five minutes later, I’d have been dead on arrival,” he continued. “The right side of my heart had completely stopped getting blood at all.”

Jakes had been standing onstage and preaching before sitting down in a chair and experiencing the heart attack.

“As long as I was up preaching, I felt fine,” he said. “But when I sat down, the adrenaline dropped, and it exposed the fact that I was preaching with half of my heart closed through a clot. And they had to go get it.”

The pastor also shared what he saw in that moment.

“It’s hard for me to look at that video,” he said. “They had to claw the microphone out of my hand. But in my mind, I was in a quiet, peaceful, serene, white-enveloped, cloud-enveloped space.

“I was on my way out,” he continued. “Afterwards in retrospect, it was such a privilege to stand on the other side, to get a little glimpse of what it might be like, or at least what it was like in that moment for me. I think it was absolutely amazing.”

He also gave thanks for the prayers he received from his congregation and people around the world.

“While they were praying, the surgeons were operating while I was awake,” he said. “They never put me to sleep. Technology is amazing.”

Former Brazil president must stand trial over alleged coup attempt- Supreme  court rules

Brazil’s former president, Jair Bolsonaro will stand trial for allegedly orchestrating a coup[ to seize power through a military coup, after the country’s supreme court decided he should face criminal prosecution.

The ruling leaves the far-right politician, who governed Brazil from 2019 until the end of 2022, facing a possible jail sentence of more than 40 years.

The supreme court decided that seven other close allies of the ex-president should also stand trial for crimes including involvement in an armed criminal organization, coup d’état and violently attempting to abolish Brazilian democracy.

They are: Bolsonaro’s former defense ministers Gen Walter Braga Netto and Gen Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira; his former navy commander, Adm Almir Garnier Santos; his former security minister, Anderson Torres; his former spy chief Alexandre Ramagem; his former minister for institutional security, Gen Augusto Heleno; and his former assistant, Lt Col Mauro Cid, who, if convicted, will receive a lighter sentence after he struck a plea deal with prosecutors.

The men are accused of forming a conspiracy to keep Bolsonaro in power after he narrowly lost the 2022 presidential election to his leftwing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

On Wednesday five supreme court judges unanimously ruled that there was sufficient evidence for all of those men to face prosecution and officially declared them defendants.

The accusations relate to an alleged plan to stage a pro-Bolsonaro coup in the months between the October 2022 election and the far-right riots that broke out in Brasília on 8 January 2023 – one week after Lula’s inauguration.

Those attacks were allegedly incited as part of a last-ditch attempt to return Bolsonaro to the presidency, against the public will, by creating turmoil that would justify a military intervention.

“It was a veritable pitched battle … It was an extraordinarily violent attempted coup d’état,” the supreme court judge Alexandre de Moraes told the court as he showed video footage of Bolsonarista hooligans vandalizing the supreme court and attacking police in the capital.

“Untamed violence – utter insolence … These images leave no doubt as to the materiality and the gravity of the crimes committed,” Moraes added.

In the weeks and months before the rightwing rampage in Brasília, Police claim one sub-plot – code-named “Green and Yellow Dagger” – included plans to cause social and political chaos by assassinating Lula with poison and shooting the supreme court judge Moraes dead.

Brazil’s attorney general, Paulo Gonet, told the court that police investigators had “uncovered a terrifying operation to carry out the coup, which even included killing the president and vice-president-elect, as well as that of a supreme court minister”.

One assassination plot “envisaged using explosives, military ordnance and poison … [and] the operators only didn’t follow through on what had been agreed because they didn’t manage to … co-opt the commander of the army,” Gonet added, urging judges to put Bolsonaro and his alleged accomplices on trial.

In a written statement after Wednesday’s ruling, Bolsonaro claimed he was the victim of judicial persecution designed to end his political career and silence Brazil’s rightwing opposition.

“Those in power are focused on ensuring I spend the rest of my life in prison so I can never run for president again,” he wrote.

“The Brazilian people are being robbed of their right to choose their leader, and no country can call itself a democracy when its most popular candidate is barred from the ballot through judicial manoeuvres,” Bolsonaro added.

Ben Affleck admits Jennifer Lopez divorce was embarrassing

American actor and filmmaker, Ben Affleck has spoken out on his ’embarrassing’ divorce from Jennifer Lopez in a rare remark.

The pair, who were famously engaged in the early 2000s, before breaking it off and later rekindling their romance almost two decades later divorced earlier this year after two years of marriage.

In a recent cover interview for GQ’s April 2025 issue, Affleck, 52, admitted that “there’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue” behind his breakup from the actress-singer.

“The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’ Well, there is no, ‘This is what happened,’ ” said the Accountant 2 star. “It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.”

Affleck went on to say that he has noticed, as he “gets older,” that “there is no ‘So-and-so did this’ or ‘This was the big event’ ” rather, “It sounds more like a couple’s therapy session, which — you would tune out of someone else’s couple’s therapy after a while.”

“For one thing, you start going, ‘Okay, clearly this person has got these issues. Clearly, they have these issues.’ And the reason I don’t want to share that is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable,” explained the Good Will Hunting writer-actor.

Affleck also touched on why he chose to be involved in the 2024 documentary about their marriage, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.

“Part of it was, ‘Okay, if I’m going to participate in this, I want to try to do it in an honest way and in a way that’s interesting.’ Because I thought it was an interesting examination,” he said.

Affleck praised Lopez, 55, as someone who has “handled celebrity more adeptly and more adroitly than I have,” explaining, “My temperament is to be a little bit more reserved and private than hers.”

Affleck told GQ that he believes “it’s important to say” that the documentary “wasn’t the cause of some major fracture” in his relationship with Lopez.

“It’s not like you can watch that documentary and go, ‘Oh, now I understand the issues that these two had,’ ” the Air actor-director added.

And while he understands “wanting to divine or explore the kind of differences in perspective that we have in terms of how a person feels comfortable approaching the line between public and private life,” Affleck has “nothing but respect” for his ex.

“There’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something,” he continued. “But honestly … the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting.”

mum has been charged with murd£ring her 11 year old son by cutting his throat in a hotel room

A California mum has been charged with murd£ring her 11 year old son by cutting his throat in a hotel room, right after taking him on what seemed like a dream trip to Disneyland.

Prosecutors have hit Saritha Ramaraju, aged 48, with a murd£r charge and an additional felony for using a de@dly weapon, after she allegedly took a “large kitchen knife” to her son’s neck on Wednesday, March 19, at the La Quinta Inn and Suites in Santa Ana, according to police reports.

“The safest place for a child should be in their parents’ arms,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer on Friday, March 21,clearly shaken by the tragedy.

Describing the heart-wrenching event, Spitzer said, “Instead of wrapping her arms around their son in love, she sl!t his throat,” adding “And in the cruelest twist of fate, removed him from the very world she brought him into.”

The accused, currently living outside of California, was having a three-day custody visitation with her son when the incident occurred. She is estranged from the boy’s father, and DA Spitzer alluded to potential conflict between them that may have contributed to the boy’s de@th, reports the Mirror US.

“The life of a child should not hang in the balance between two parents whose anger for each other outweighs their love for their child,” Spitzer opined, underlining the role of rage in clouding judgment. He poignantly concluded, “Anger makes you forget who you love and what you are responsible for doing.”

Prosecutors and police have revealed that Ramaraju, a former resident of Irvine, had moved out of California in 2018 following her divorce. During a custody visit, she was staying at the La Quinta Inn located on Hotel Terrace in Santa Ana.

The DA’s office disclosed in a press release that “During the visit, she bought three-day passes to Disneyland for herself and her son.”

“On Wednesday … the day Ramaraju was scheduled to check out of the motel and return the boy to his father, Ramaraju called 911 at 9:12 a.m. to report that she had k!lled her 11-year-old son and had taken pills trying to k!ll herself.”

When the police arrived at the motel, they found a large kitchen knife in her room. It appeared the boy had been de@d “for several hours” before his mother alerted the authorities, according to the DA’s office.

The Santa Ana Police stated, “Officers responded to the scene and detained (Ramaraju) in the hotel hallway.”

They added: “Inside a nearby hotel room, officers found an unresponsive 11-year-old boy with apparent stab wounds. Orange County Fire Authority personnel arrived on scene and pronounced the child deceased.”

Ramaraju was arrested on suspicion of murd£r and hospitalised due to the ingestion of an unknown substance, according to the police. After being discharged from the hospital on Thursday, she was charged and arraigned in Orange County.

If found guilty on all counts, prosecutors have stated that Ramaraju could potentially face a maximum sentence of 26 years to life behind bars.

EXPOSING EMMANUEL MWAMBA’S PROPAGANDA AGAINST PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA

EXPOSING EMMANUEL MWAMBA’S PROPAGANDA AGAINST PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S

By Timmy

In a recent article, Emmanuel Mwamba has once again attempted to spread false information about President Hakainde Hichilema’s government. This time, Mwamba has targeted the President’s handling of the Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) issue and the proposed constitutional amendments. As a concerned citizen, it is essential to set the record straight and expose Mwamba’s propaganda.

Mwamba claims that President Hichilema wanted to give KCM to Vedanta, the previous owners of the mine. However, this is a blatant lie. The truth is that KCM was never owned by the government, and the provisional liquidation order was challenged by Vedanta in court. Vedanta won the case, and the government was ordered to go for arbitration in South Africa and London.

The UPND government, led by President Hichilema, stopped the fraudulent liquidation court process, and Vedanta took back its rightful position at KCM. This move was a significant step towards restoring sanity in the mining sector and ensuring that the interests of Zambians are protected.

Mwamba and his allies have been spreading false narratives about the proposed constitutional amendments. They claim that President Hichilema wants to remove the running mate clause, presidential term limits, and the 50%+1 requirement. However, this is not true. President Hichilema has never mentioned anything about changing these sections of the constitution.

In fact, the President has been clear about his intentions to amend the constitution to address specific challenges facing the country. The proposed amendments aim to improve the governance framework, enhance accountability, and promote transparency.

It is clear that Mwamba’s article is a desperate attempt to undermine President Hichilema’s credibility and create confusion among Zambians. By spreading false information and manipulating public opinion, Mwamba hopes to gain political mileage and advance his own interests.

However, Zambians are not fooled by Mwamba’s propaganda. We know the truth, and we stand with President Hichilema. We will not be swayed by Mwamba’s lies and false narratives.

Emmanuel Mwamba’s article is a classic example of propaganda aimed at misleading Zambians. By setting the record straight, we expose Mwamba’s false narratives and reaffirm our support for President Hakainde Hichilema.

As Zambians, we must remain vigilant and critical of information that seeks to undermine our democracy and institutions. We must stand together and support President Hichilema’s efforts to build a better Zambia for all.

“THE FUEL SCANDAL: WHO LOOTED, POCKETED BILLIONS

“THE FUEL SCANDAL: WHO LOOTED, POCKETED BILLIONS”

By Nkonkomalimba Kapumpe

The recent statement by Minister of Energy Peter Chikote on the floor of the House was not just shallow — it was deceptive, contradictory, and confused. In fact, it exposed not only the Minister’s lack of understanding of the fuel sector but also the broader incompetence and negligence within the government. What unfolded in Parliament was nothing short of an embarrassment, with MPs displaying shocking ignorance on basic economic principles — even the Speaker was visibly stunned by the Kalomo MP’s failure to grasp how the price of fuel by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) directly affects pump prices.

If the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or the World Bank had been watching, they would have seen a government stumbling through a critical policy issue — and looking utterly clueless while doing it.

How It All Started

When the UPND took power, they had a promising idea to reduce fuel prices by shifting from road transport to the Tazama pipeline. The strategy made sense: cutting transport costs would naturally reduce pump prices and ease the burden on Zambians.

To implement this plan, the government awarded a contract to Agro Fuel and its partner, Vitol, worth around $100 million, to make the Tazama pipeline operational. Another contract, nearly $100 million, was given to the same companies to transport the deadstock in the pipeline to Indeni.

When the pipeline became operational, the former Minister of Energy, Kapala, announced in Parliament that Agro Fuel and Vitol had been single-sourced to supply fuel. The current Minister, Chikote, confirmed that this was necessary to avoid fuel shortages — but at what cost? Agro Fuel was charging Zambia $113 per metric ton to transport fuel through the pipeline for three years — an outrageous rate.

For three years, Agro Fuel monopolized the Tazama pipeline, controlling 90% of the flow despite loud protests from the OMC Association of Zambia, energy experts, and concerned citizens. Calls for open access to the pipeline — which would have allowed other companies to compete and lower costs — were ignored. Instead of falling, fuel prices soared by nearly 50%, climbing from around K20 per liter to over K30.

This is where the accusation of economic sabotage comes in. High fuel prices pushed up the cost of goods and services, driving inflation and making any meaningful economic recovery impossible. The UPND government, which promised lower fuel prices, was now being blamed for worsening the cost of living crisis.

The IMF Steps In

It took pressure from the IMF to force the government to allow open access to the pipeline. Once this was implemented, transport costs immediately dropped by 60% — from $113 to $54 per metric ton.

Do the math: over three years, Zambia was losing between $70 million and $90 million annually — that’s roughly 2.5 billion Kwacha per year — in excess profits going to a single company. Over three years, the total loss amounted to nearly 8 billion Kwacha. This wasn’t just bad policy — it was daylight robbery.

Even Chikote admitted in Parliament that the players involved had made extreme profits before open access was implemented. Yet he stood on the floor of the House trying to spin the open access policy as a victory for the government. Victory? After robbing the Zambian people of 8 billion Kwacha? It’s like saying, “We have stopped stealing from fuel; now clap for us.”

The Hidden Truth

Chikote conveniently failed to mention the October 4, 2024, agreement between the Ministry of Energy and TAZAMA — an agreement that allows Agro Fuel to maintain a stranglehold on the pipeline. Under the deal, 50% of all fuel pumped through the Tazama pipeline will still go to Agro Fuel for the next two years to allow them to recover their $19 million in foreign exchange losses.

This undermines the very principle of open access. How can a competitive market exist if half of the pipeline capacity is guaranteed to a single player? Other OMCs that win tenders to offload 35,000 metric tons of cargo will find it nearly impossible to secure access to the pipeline. In fact, OMCs have already faced significant challenges offloading cargo in Dar es Salaam when Agro Fuel opposed it. This is not a competitive market — it’s a rigged system.

Who Benefited?

We need to know who pocketed the 8 billion Kwacha over the past three years — and who continues to benefit from these corrupt deals. This scandal points to a suspected cartel involving State House staff, the Solicitor General’s office, TAZAMA, and the Ministry of Energy. This is not mere negligence — it’s corruption on a massive scale.

The thieves and criminals behind this scheme must be exposed, investigated, and arrested. Even Chikote hasn’t denied that the government lost billions before open access was implemented. So why is the Anti-Corruption Commission sitting on its hands? Are they waiting for the President’s approval to act?

A Challenge to the President

With due respect to the President, I dare him to say:
“Arrest all those involved in fuel corruption.”

If the President issues that directive today, the arrests will begin tomorrow. The truth is already out — the people know who stole from them. The question is: does the government have the courage to confront the thieves within its own ranks?

MINISTERIAL STATEMENT
BY MINISTER OF ENERGY ON THE ALLEGED DECISION BY AGRO FUEL INVESTMENTS LIMITED TO FILL UP THE RESERVE TANKS AT TAZAMA PIPELINE THEREBY BLOCKING THE STORAGE OF CHEAPER FUEL BY OTHER STAKEHOLDERS

MINISTERIAL STATEMENT
BY HON. MAKOZO CHIKOTE– MP, MINISTER OF ENERGY, ON THE ALLEGED DECISION BY AGRO FUEL INVESTMENTS LIMITED TO FILL UP THE RESERVE TANKS AT TAZAMA PIPELINE THEREBY BLOCKING THE STORAGE OF CHEAPER FUEL BY OTHER STAKEHOLDERS

MADAM SPEAKER,

I THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ISSUE A MINISTERIAL STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE URGENT MATTER RAISED WITHOUT NOTICE BY THE HONOURABLE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR BWEENGWA, MR. KASAUTU SAITI MICHELO. THIS RELATES TO THE NEWS DIGGERS HEADLINE DATED 20TH MARCH 2025, TITLED “OPEN ACCESS HITS A SNAG AS AGRO FUEL FILLS TAZAMA RESERVE TANKS, HINDERS OFFLOADING OF A CHEAPER DIESEL.”

MADAM SPEAKER,

BEFORE I ADDRESS THE HEADLINE ISSUE, LET ME GIVE A BRIEF BACKGROUND AND ALSO HIGHLIGHT KEY DEVELOPMENTS IN THE PETROLEUM SUB-SECTOR.

WHEN THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA PLACED THEIR TRUST IN THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT IN 2021 UNDER THE ABLE LEADERSHIP OF THE REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT MR. HAKAINDE HICHILEMA, A COMMITMENT WAS MADE TO DELIVER MEANINGFUL REFORMS THAT WOULD TRANSFORM THE ECONOMY, BRING RELIEF TO OUR CITIZENS, AND REPAIR THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY YEARS OF MISMANAGEMENT IN THE PETROLEUM SECTOR.

WE INHERITED A FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM THAT WAS NOT TRANSPARENT AND DESIGNED TO BENEFIT A FEW AT THE EXPENSE OF THE MAJORITY. THE PREVIOUS REGIME WAS INVOLVED IN PRICE FIXING WHICH RESULTED IN HUGE DEBT TO OUR GOVERNMENT.

AS AT AUGUST 2021, THE  NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT INHERITED FUEL DEBT AMOUNTING TO 477,798,993.10 UNITED STATES DOLLARS. THIS AMOUNT GREW TO 877,175,158.27 UNITED STATES DOLLARS AS AT 31ST MARCH, 2024 DUE TO BADLY DRAFTED CONTRACTS BY THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT.

THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT TOOK A BOLD STEP TO RESTRUCTURE THIS SECTOR, ENSURING THAT ZAMBIANS GET THE BEST VALUE FOR MONEY WHILE GUARANTEEING A STABLE AND TRANSPARENT SUPPLY OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS.

IN LINE WITH THIS COMMITMENT, THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT HAS UNDERTAKEN THE FOLLOWING REFORMS:

1. ENDING GOVERNMENT’S DIRECT INVOLVEMENT IN PETROLEUM PROCUREMENT AND FINANCING – BRINGING EFFICIENCY TO THE FUEL SUPPLY CHAIN.

2. CONVERTING THE TAZAMA PIPELINE FROM TRANSPORTING CRUDE OIL TO TRANSPORTING DIESEL.

3. IMPLEMENTING OPEN ACCESS TO THE TAZAMA PIPELINE – ENSURING COMPETITION, TRANSPARENCY, AND FAIRNESS IN THE FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM.

MADAM SPEAKER,

BECAUSE OF THESE REFORMS, WE HAVE ACHIEVED:

1. LOWER TRANSPORTATION COSTS FOR DIESEL, PASSING THE SAVINGS TO THE CONSUMER;

2. INCREASED PARTICIPATION OF ZAMBIAN ENTREPRENEURS IN THE PETROLEUM SUPPLY CHAIN, CREATING JOBS AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES;

3. A TRANSPARENT, COMPETITIVE PROCESS FOR PIPELINE ACCESS THAT PROMOTES ACHIEVEMENT OF LOWER PRICES, FAIRNESS AND ACCOUNTABILITY.

MADAM SPEAKER,

THE CONVERSION OF THE TAZAMA PIPELINE HAS ATTRACTED SOME MISLEADING HEADLINES. LET ME SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

IN SEPTEMBER 2022, THE GOVERNMENT, THROUGH TAZAMA, FLOATED AN OPEN COMPETITIVE TENDER FOR THE SUPPLY OF KEROSENE TO CLEAN THE PIPELINE. THE TENDER ALSO INCLUDED THE SUPPLY OF DIESEL WHICH WAS REQUIRED TO DISPLACE THE CRUDE OIL DEADSTOCK. AFTER A TRANSPARENT PROCESS, AGRO-FUEL INVESTMENT, IN A JOINT VENTURE WITH VITOL BAHRAIN, WAS AWARDED THE TENDER.

LET ME BE CLEAR: THE CLEANING OF THE PIPELINE WAS DONE BY TAZAMA ITSELF. THE CONVERSION COMMENCED ON 24TH JANUARY 2023 AND WAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED ON 16TH MARCH 2023.

MADAM SPEAKER,

WHEN THE PIPELINE CONVERSION WAS COMPLETED, OIL MARKETING COMPANIES (OMCS) WERE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE. TO AVOID SUPPLY DISRUPTIONS, THE GOVERNMENT ALLOWED SELECTED COMPANIES TO USE THE PIPELINE ON AN INTERIM BASIS, ENSURING STABILITY WHILE FINALIZING OPEN ACCESS MODALITIES.

AS PROMISED, THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT HAS NOW FULLY DEVELOPED THE OPEN ACCESS FRAMEWORK, AND THE FIRST CARGOES UNDER THIS SYSTEM WILL ARRIVE IN APRIL 2025. THIS IS A TESTAMENT TO OUR DETERMINATION TO DELIVER ON OUR PLEDGES.

FOLLOWING A PREQUALIFICATION PROCESS, 18 OIL MARKETING COMPANIES HAVE BEEN CLEARED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS NEW, TRANSPARENT SYSTEM.
THEREFORE, AFTER PREQUALIFICATION, AS PER THE OPEN ACCESS GUIDELINES, THE NEXT STAGE WAS TO SUBJECT PREQUALIFIED OIL MARKETING COMPANIES TO MONTHLY INVITATIONS TO SUBMIT COMPETITIVE OFFERS FOR THREE (3) LOTS IN QUANTITIES OF 35000 METRIC TONNES PER LOT.

MADAM SPEAKER,

WITH INVITATIONS NOW IN MOTION FOR COMPETITIVE OFFERS, TWO TENDERS HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED FOR APRIL AND MAY 2025, WITH THE FOLLOWING RESULTS:

APRIL 2025 – WINNING PREMIUM: USD 84 PER METRIC TONNE

LOT 1: TITANIUM/ADNOC – 35,000MT

LOT 2: BOLTT ENERGY – 35,000MT

LOT 3: INDENI ENERGY – 35,000MT

MAY 2025 – WINNING PREMIUM: USD 54 PER METRIC TONNE

LOT 1: AGRO-FUEL/VITOL – 35,000MT

LOT 2: TITANIUM/ADNOC – 35,000MT

LOT 3: DALBIT INTERNATIONAL – 35,000MT

MADAM SPEAKER,

THE OPEN ACCESS FRAMEWORK HAS BROUGHT IN COMPETITION THAT HAS COMPELLED OMCS TO CUT THEIR PROFITS AS DEMONSTRATED IN THE RECENT TENDERS. IT IS THEREFORE, THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT’S RESOLVE TO ENSURE THAT THIS COMPETITION IS SUSTAINED.

MADAM SPEAKER,

LET ME NOW ADDRESS THE HEADLINE CONCERN WHICH APPEARED IN NEWS DIGGERS.

I HAVE NOTED CERTAIN MEDIA REPORTS SUGGESTING THAT STORAGE SPACE AT TAZAMA IN DAR ES SALAAM HAS BEEN FILLED UP TO BLOCK OTHER PLAYERS WITH CHEAPER FUEL. LET ME ASSURE THIS HOUSE AND THE NATION THAT TAZAMA IS FULLY PREPARED TO RECEIVE THE FIRST VESSEL UNDER THE OPEN ACCESS FRAMEWORK IN APRIL, 2025. LET ME ALSO BE CLEAR THAT TAZAMA HAS PUT IN PLACE MEASURES  TO ENSURE THAT SUBSEQUENT CARGOES EXPECTED UNDER THE OPEN ACCESS FRAMEWORK WILL OFFLOAD AND HAVE THE REQUIRED STORAGE SPACE.

MADAM SPEAKER,

IN CONCLUSION, THIS GOVERNMENT IS NOT HERE TO PERPETUATE BUSINESS AS USUAL. WE ARE HERE TO DELIVER CHANGE, TO FIX WHAT WAS BROKEN, AND TO ENSURE THAT ZAMBIANS BENEFIT FROM AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE, NOT JUST A FEW WELL-CONNECTED INDIVIDUALS.

THE MEASURES WE HAVE TAKEN IN THE PETROLEUM SECTOR WILL ENSURE:

➢ AFFORDABLE FUEL PRICES FOR EVERY ZAMBIAN;

➢ A RELIABLE AND SECURE FUEL SUPPLY;

➢ MORE ZAMBIANS PARTICIPATION IN THE PETROLEUM SUPPLY CHAIN,

TO THIS END, THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT IS COMMITTED TO ENSURING THAT THE FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM IN ZAMBIA WILL REMAIN SUSTAINABLE, COMPETITIVE AND TRANSPARENT.

MADAM SPEAKER, I THANK YOU

I miss my family at home – Bowman Lusambo

I miss my family at home – Bowman Lusambo

JAILED former Lusaka Province minister Bowman Lusambo says he misses home and his family.

Lusambo has been away from his wife and five children since last November when he was convicted on assault and corruption related charges

On November 8, 2024, Lusambo was sentenced to four years imprisonment with hard labor for corrupt acquisition of public property, three years for possessing a car and four houses in Silverest gardens and fined K9, 000 in each of the three counts of tax evasion in default nine months simple imprisonment.

As he appeared for another of his cases yesterday, the former Kabushi PF lawmaker lamented how Mwembeshi Prison was hindering him from spending time with his children.

“Nangu wingekala ku Protea (even if you stay at Protea Hotel) home is home, there is no place like home. We can’t run away from that guys, I miss home,” Lusambo told journalists.

This was after one of his close female relatives wept upon seeing him in court.

Before that Lusambo asked for a 10 minute break after the State called him a criminal over the properties he acquired during his hay days.

This did not sit well with the bulldozer who responded emotionally.

During his defence yesterday, Lusambo insisted that all his money had legitimate sources, citing business ventures in music supply and printing as well as employment in three companies before becoming an MP.

However, when asked to provide payslips and tax records, his responses were inconsistent.

“There’s no documentation because politicians don’t issue receipts,” he claimed when questioned about his earnings as MMD National Youth Coordinator.

The prosecution pressed further on a K960,000 transaction Lusambo allegedly made before his ministerial appointment.

While he maintained that the money came from business and employment, he struggled to provide clear documentation proving its origins.

Amid the grilling, the court intervened to advise Lusambo to remain calm and composed.

“When you are in the witness box, the other side plays with your emotions. Try to control yourself,” advised Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili.

Magistrate Chibwili later adjourned the matter to today at 09:00 hours.

Miles Sampa Wins Case Against Ngona and Chabinga

Miles Sampa Wins Case Against Ngona and Chabinga

……..To President Hakainde Hichilema & the UPND, you have told us and the Nation that you have no match and will be in power next 50 years, so please stay away from the PF internal matters……..

By Miles Sampa

Late this afternoon our Lawyers called me out of Parliament sessions that they had received in their pigeon hole at the High Court a ruling in our favour.

The summary of it is as follows;
1. They Stay (Maintain position holder as was) that Morgan Ngona obtained from the High Court when I in my capacity as PF President relived him on 30th June 2024 as holder of the office of PF Secretary General , has today been DISCHARGED (removed the hold on status  & re-instated my decision position made when I fired Ngona as SG).

2. The High Court DISMISSED Mr Robert Chabinga application to join the case or replaced me as defendant in the case as he has zero loci standi or sufficient interest in PF leadership discussions between a President of the PF party and the PF SG that he appointed and later decided to fire.

3. After the High Court has made the Judgement today  on all Preliminary Issues (PIs) raised since the case began 9 months ago, it is now time for the main matter of the case to be heard by the High Court of Zambia on  why Mr Morgan Ngona thinks the PF President Miles Sampa that appointed him in 2023 had no right to fire him in 2024.

Many thanks to all the lawyers that came on this case and most of them pro bono (free of charge) but just so to protect both the PF Constitution and democracy in Zambia away from those that attempted to kill the PF as an alternative voice of the people.

All I can say is ‘Lesa Mukulu’ and assure all genuine PF members across the 10 Provinces of Zambia that their worries are no more. Miles Sampa will be the last person in PF to be part of killing the PF. Everything he done or does no matter how wrong it may look, are in his attempts to make the PF better.

I will hereon engage all key stakeholders of the PF for the way foward agreeable to all.

To President HH & the UPND, you have told us and the Nation that you have no match and will be in power next 50 years, so please stay away from the PF internal matters. Best the PF via the ballot the same way you beat us by 1 millions votes in 2021 general elections.

Meantime our lawyers have already written to the National Assembly of Zambia (NAZ), the Electoral Commision of Zambia (ECZ) & any other concerned entity of government to bring today’s Judgement to their informed attention so they are not in contempt of the ruling.

Draining Luapula to Save Kafue – A $6 Billion Catastrophe in the Making

Draining Luapula to Save Kafue – A $6 Billion Catastrophe in the Making

The Zambian government is once again on the brink of an environmental and economic disaster, this time with its reckless proposal to divert water from the Luapula River basin into the Kafue River to address the country’s energy crisis.

This ill-advised, multi-billion-dollar project has sparked outrage, with Chief Mabumba VIII of the Ushi people issuing a scathing warning against what he calls a “catastrophic, irreversible mistake.”

In a strongly worded statement, Chief Mabumba exposed the shocking financial burden this project would place on the country. The lowest estimated cost exceeds $6 billion, a staggering amount for an economy already suffocating under $21.6 billion in foreign debt. The chief described the proposal as a wasteful and dangerous gamble, urging the government to abandon this destructive idea before it is too late.

“Solving Zambia’s electricity shortage by transferring water from Luapula to Kafue is not the most economical solution. The research clearly shows that this project is financially unviable. Instead of fixing bad agricultural practices in the Kafue Lower Basin, they want to destroy Luapula,” he said.

The environmental implications of this project are nothing short of a nightmare. According to Chief Mabumba, altering the natural flow of the Luapula River would wipe out entire ecosystems, kill fish populations, and push local wildlife to extinction.

Additionally, Zambia is a signatory to the UNESCO Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (1971), yet this project blatantly violates the treaty’s provisions on protecting wetlands from destructive infrastructure projects.

The chief also warned about the devastating social impact on communities that depend on the Luapula River for survival. If the government proceeds, thousands of families will be at risk of losing their primary water source, leading to water shortages for drinking, farming, and fishing. Many could face forced relocation, triggering economic ruin and displacement for innocent citizens.

Even more alarming is the fact that Zambia doesn’t need this project in the first place. Chief Mabumba pointed out that the real cause of water shortages in Kafue is not a lack of water but poor agricultural practices. Instead of addressing this root cause, the government is looking for a costly shortcut that will permanently damage another region of the country.

“The government must not gamble with our environment for political expediency. If they are serious about solving Zambia’s power crisis, they should focus on cost-effective solutions like upgrading Musonda Power Plant and fast-tracking the Mumbotuta CX and Luapula hydropower projects,” Chief Mabumba stated.

Upgrading the Musonda Power Plant and investing in existing hydropower projects would provide Zambia with more electricity at a fraction of the cost, without destroying natural ecosystems.

But instead of taking the logical route, the government appears determined to push forward with a disastrous project that will benefit no one except politically connected contractors.

UPND’s Hypocrisy on Cybersecurity and Constitution

UPND’s Hypocrisy on Cybersecurity and Constitution

When the Patriotic Front (PF) introduced the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021, which came into effect on April 1, 2021, then opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema and his minions vehemently opposed it. They went on a nationwide campaign, appearing on radio and TV stations to condemn the law as a tool for stifling freedoms, silencing dissent, and suppressing citizens especially those who did not align with the government of the day.

At the time, UPND positioned itself as the champion of democracy and free speech. They assured Zambians that, once in power, they would repeal this legislation, arguing that it was oppressive, regressive, and a direct threat to civil liberties. This promise was repeated time and again, forming part of their broader narrative that they were the only political force that truly cared about the rights and freedoms of the people.

However, the moment they assumed office, their stance changed completely. Not only did the UPND fail to repeal the law, but they have actively enhanced it. This glaring reversal exposes their dishonesty and confirms what many feared, “absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Instead of fulfilling their promise to protect free speech, they have fortified mechanisms to control digital spaces, silence critics, and restrict social media, the very platforms that played a crucial role in their electoral victory.

This betrayal is not accidental, it is deliberate. The UPND government is deeply sensitive to criticism, and they know that social media remains a powerful tool for exposing their lies, corruption, governance failures, and human rights violations. To protect their incompetence and shield themselves from public scrutiny, they have chosen to weaponize the same legal instruments they once condemned. This is not governance it is tyranny disguised as law enforcement.

Inconsistency: A Hallmark of Failed Leadership

This is not the only instance where UPND has displayed blatant hypocrisy. Their inconsistency on constitutional reforms is another glaring example. While in opposition, they were the loudest voices against Bill 10, insisting that the 2016 Constitution was “perfect” and required no further amendments. They accused the PF of wanting to manipulate the Constitution to consolidate power. Yet today, now that they are in government, they have completely changed their tune, openly pushing for constitutional amendments to serve their own interests.

Such double standards prove that UPND’s opposition to PF policies was never about principle, it was purely political opportunism. They are no different from those they once condemned. Instead of delivering the good governance they promised, they have chosen the path of deception, self-preservation, and betrayal of the Zambian people.

The Will of the People Cannot Be Suppressed

What Mr Hichilema and UPND fails to understand is that laws designed to serve the selfish interests of a small clique will never override the will of the people. History has shown that Zambians do not take kindly to oppression. The memories of our forefathers who stood against injustice like those who fought the brutal colonial regime in the 1962 Kitwe uprising are still fresh. The sacrifices of those who shed blood for our democracy will not be in vain.

The UPND must realize that power is not permanent. Just as they rode on the wave of public dissatisfaction to ascend to power, they too will be held accountable. The Zambian people will not be fooled twice. We refuse to betray our forefathers’ legacy simply because a small group of selfish individuals are abusing the power temporarily entrusted to them.

The struggle for true democracy continues. The people are watching, and they will not be silenced.

When stupidity becomes patriotism, the intelligent are unsafe.

Gentleness is power and influence under control.

ZAMBIA WINS BIG: HOW THE UPND GOVERNMENT MOPANI DEAL CREATED 1,900 JOBS AND IS YET TO CREATE 3,000 MORE AND RECLAIM ECONOMIC SOVEREIGNITY

ZAMBIA WINS BIG: HOW THE UPND GOVERNMENT MOPANI DEAL CREATED 1,900 JOBS AND IS YET TO CREATE 3,000 MORE AND RECLAIM ECONOMIC SOVEREIGNITY

Inside the Strategic Move That Secured 49% Ownership, $1.1B Investment & Protection for Zambian Workers – And Why Previous Administrations Failed

In a defining victory for President Hakainde Hichilema’s economic agenda, the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has revealed how its strategic negotiation with International Resources Holding (IRH) achieved what previous governments could not:

1. The Jobs Rescue Mission
* The existing workforce was retained and 1,900 new jobs have been created at Mopani Mines (contrary to competitors’ plans for potential layoffs of one third of the workforce)

* 3,000 new jobs to be created within 24 months from the date of recapitalization – the largest jobs pledge in Zambia’s mining sector since privatization
* $1.1 billion investment guarantee with strict performance clauses to ensure delivery
“This isn’t just business – it’s about Zambian families,” stated Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe. “Where others saw balance sheets, we saw  livelihoods at stake.”

2. Reversing Past Exploitation
The deal deliberately corrects historical imbalances:
✓ 49% government stake (vs. symbolic shares in previous deals)
✓ No more Glencore dominance (competing bidders wanted their offtake control to continue)
✓ $1 billion debt write-off cleaning up legacy liabilities

3. The Local Empowerment Framework
Crucially, this agreement:
* Mandates 60% local procurement once the Local Content regulation passes. This is  already being implemented even before the regulation as in 2024 with regards to supplier engagement, 82 % of the 1,089 total suppliers of goods and services to Mopani were local Zambians.
* Links investment phases to Zambian hiring/supply targets

* Establishes a Copperbelt SME Development Fund from mine royalties
Political Contrast
Government  confirm the rejected bids would have:
✗ Reduced government to minority partner (all offered <30%)
✗ Maintained foreign control over mineral marketing
✗ Provided weaker job guarantees
The Financial Engineering
The UPND administration:
* Paid $400 million to settle toxic Glencore debt

* Structured a debt-to-equity swap for the balance
* Avoided new taxpayer burdens through IRH’s capital commitment
Copperbelt Impact
Early benefits visible:
* K85 million in overdue payments to Kitwe Council cleared
* 1,200 contractors already recalled since November

* Skills training center to open in Ndola next month
What This Means Strategically
Analysts view this as:
🔹 First real test of UPND’s “Zambia First” mining policy
🔹 Blueprint for future mine negotiations (Konkola next)

Opposition Reaction
While PF officials call it “privatization by stealth,” economists counter that the 49% stake + jobs guarantee makes this the most worker-centric mining deal since independence.

The Road Ahead
With:
* First production to contribute significantly to the 3million metric tonnes copper production target by 2031
* Local hiring audits every quarter
* Supplier development programs launching
This transaction is a  recalibration of Zambia’s entire mining social contract.
