Man who published photo portraying President William Ruto’s funeral detained

Benson Malova Ashiko, a man arrested for sharing a manipulated photo depicting the funeral of President William Ruto, has been ordered to be detained for four days to allow the police to complete their investigations.

Milimani High Court Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi made the ruling on Monday, January 27, 2025, directing that Ashiko be held at Muthaiga police station as requested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Serious Crime Unit (SCU).

The DCI filed an application stating that Ashiko, using his X account Ash Papi_TM @Mr_Papi5, had shared an edited image of President Ruto’s funeral, captioning it with “condolences to the first family,” a message deemed false and misleading. The SCU officer, Edwin Metto, stated that Ashiko’s actions were under investigation for publishing false information in violation of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018. The publication, according to the DCI, could harm the reputation of the president and his family, as their images were also included in the manipulated photo.

Magistrate Shitubi also expressed concerns over the potential for torture, urging Officer Metto to ensure Ashiko is not mistreated during his detention. “I hope you have understood, I just want to know that you understood, you know every case affecting the most powerful there is that fear that maybe he will be tortured,” Shitubi remarked, instructing that the best conditions be provided for Ashiko while in remand.

The DCI had initially requested that Ashiko be detained for 14 days to complete their investigations, but due to health complications, the detention period was reduced to four days. The court further ordered that Ashiko be allowed medical treatment, including access to the necessary medication.

If the DCI has not completed its investigations by the end of the four days, Ashiko will be released on a Ksh 50,000 bond or Ksh 5,000 cash bail. Ashiko, who was arrested on January 24, 2025, in Bungoma, was later transferred to Nairobi and placed in custody at Muthaiga police station. The case will be mentioned again in court on February 10, 2025, for further directions.

Italian Prime Minister is being investigated over the release of a Libyan police officer wanted by ICC

Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni is being investigated over the release of a Libyan police officer wanted by the International Criminal Court.

Osama Elmasry Njeem, also known as Osama Almasri Njeem, was released last week after being detained a few days earlier under an arrest warrant issued by the ICC for alleged crimes against humanity.

The ICC demanded an explanation, saying it had not been consulted over the decision.

In a video message on social media, Meloni announced that she is suspected of aiding and abetting a crime and embezzlement in connection to the case of Osama Elmasry Njeem, also known as Osama Almasri Njeem.

She is under no obligation to resign, and being placed under investigation in Italy does not imply guilt, nor that formal charges will necessarily follow.

‘I cannot be blackmailed, I cannot be intimidated, it is possible that for this reason I am disliked by those who do not want Italy to change and become better but also and above all for this reason I intend to continue on my path in defense of Italians especially when the security of the nation is at stake. With my head held high and without fear’, she said in the clip.

Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, and the cabinet undersecretary for intelligence matters, Alfredo Mantovano have also been placed under investigation, she said.

It comes after the Italian leader on Saturday addressed growing criticism of the repatriation of the Libyan warlord.

Meloni had said her government would ask the ICC to clarify why it took months to issue the arrest warrant for al-Masri, also known as Ossama al-Masri, and why it was issued only after he travelled through at least three European countries.

‘Al-Masri was released by an order of Rome’s Court of Appeal … It was not a government choice,’ Meloni told journalists during a trip to Saudi Arabia.

Husband admits k!lling and cooking his wife, but cops let him walk free

A husband in India has admitted to k!lling and cooking his wife following a heated argument.

According to Mail Online, Gurumurthy, 45, told Rachakonda police in Hyderabad that he had slaughtered his wife Venkata Madhavi, 35, who had been reported missing since January 16.

The retired soldier told authorities he had k!lled his wife of 13 years, after slamming her against a wall which resulted in an instant death.

Gurumurthy, a father of two, then claimed to have dismembered her corpse using a kitchen knife before boiling the body parts.

After boiling, Gurumurthy told cops he had placed her limbs in a pressure cooker for five-to-six hours and used a pestle and mortar to grind down her bones. He is then said to have thrown the remaining flesh and powdered bones into Meerpet Lake.

Police seized potential evidence, including the pressure cooker, a kettle, and knives from the apartment where the butchering is believed to have taken place.

Forensic teams, as well as a dog squad, have searched around the lake for the remains but have so far emerged unsuccessful in their attempts.

‘We cannot rely on mere allegations. We are collecting all technical and scientific evidence. The case is being investigated,’ a police spokesman told The India Express newspaper.

As police continue to interrogate Gurumurthy, the Meerpet police believe he may have killed Madhavi in a fit of rage and did everything possible to avoid the crime being detected.

‘As of now, we don’t have any reasons to believe it was a premeditated crime. It seems like the result of a petty quarrel,’ Ch Praveen Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police told the newspaper.

‘We are questioning the suspect and we have not recovered any body parts. We do not have enough clues,’ he added.

Gurumurthy told the police Madhavi left home in a fit of rage after a quarrel between them on the morning of January 16. But during their investigation, the police grew suspicious of the husband after going through footage obtained from CCTV cameras installed near Gurumurthy’s house in the colony.

While the footage showed Madhavi entering the house on January 15, she was not seen leaving the house in the next two days, Meerpet police inspector K Nagaraju said, adding the CCTV footage showed Gurumurthy’s movements during that period.

‘We took Gurumurthy into custody on Wednesday for questioning. Initially, he provided inconsistent responses, but later he claimed to have killed his wife and disposed of the body,’ Nagaraju said.

The report also said Gurumurthy has been freed and the case is still considered a missing persons case due to lack of evidence.

The “Devil” is always in the detail-About the Presidential Visit to Japan- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

The “Devil” is always in the detail-About the Presidential Visit to Japan

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

I found an announcement on the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of a visit of the Zambian President to Japan with a detailed program outlined.

Zambia had not made its own announcement yet.

I wondered why.

Because this was an equally important visit.

I know that the Energy summit organized by the Government of the Union Republic of Tanzania and the Mission 300 (an AfDB ambitious project to connect 300million Africans to electricity), the World Bank Group and global commercial partners.

My mind raced.

Why? Will the President travel in light of recent speculations? Is there consideration to that extent? Or is the foreign affairs team too preocuppied with the current assignment in Tanzania to make the announcement ahead of Japan?

A few hours later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, finally, made its own announcement.

Now Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu, a dear brother of mine, found my sharing of the  announcemnt by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, amusing.

He posted on my thread; “Voluntary Spokesperson after sensing trouble.”

He was supported by UPND activist and his former junior at the Ministry of Green Environment, Larry Mweetwa and others.

He posted this because of the recent tumultuous event of the past weekend, where there has been intense social-media speculations about the health of the President.

The Zambia Police have proceeded to issue their own warning against persons in general speculating on the health of the President and have named me in particular and threatened me with an arrest.

Some UPND officals or supporters, not to be outdone, have outrightly threatened my life, calling for my “liquidation” or that I should be thrown in prison and the “key thrown away”.

Now this is the trouble with the UPND.

All my postings, musings, articles and jokes have meaning and have an intended outcome.

But they never see the details.

Like we say, God is in the detail, so is the Devil in the detail!

The small details can be very complicated and potentially cause problems.

For example, the President will visit the Aichi Prefecture (region), the home of Toyota Motor Corporation and the City of Kyoto, the former capital city of Japan and the cultural hub of Japan hosting one of the oldest municipalities in the world founded in 794 AD.

Japan also holds some of the best EV battery manufacturing companies such as Panasonic.

Infact, Japan, China and South Korea industries are leading in this sector in the world which makes Zambia, which has copper, manganese, cobalt, nickel, essential critical minerals to the revolutionary EV technology, an inevitable critical bilateral partner

Or like how Japan has some of the world’s best hospitals including the best Stroke and Neurosurgery Centres.

Anyway, if we discuss hospitals, they will accuse us of speculating on the health of the President, which apparently is now a serious criminal offence.

So my dear brother, Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu, my post was not about seeking a job or seeking favours, or preventing an arrest or raising a white flag in surrender!

It’s about the visit and the likely benefits that Zambia may yield. And I expected you and your friends to discuss those critical issues.

It’s Foolish for a Parent to Starve Her Own Children While Providing for Her Neighbors: The Case of UPND Exporting Electricity to Namibia Amidst Load-Shedding

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Zambia is enduring one of its worst energy crises in recent memory. Citizens are subjected to abnormal hours of load-shedding, businesses are crumbling, and the cost of living continues to spiral out of control. Amid this national emergency, the UPND government has chosen to export electricity to Namibia and other neighboring countries. This ill-conceived decision is not only illogical but deeply insensitive—it mirrors a parent deliberately starving her own children to feed the neighbors. It is a betrayal of the Zambian people, who placed their trust in the UPND to prioritize their welfare.

Governance, at its core, is about serving and protecting one’s citizens. Yet, the UPND administration appears to have abandoned this principle, leaving Zambians in literal darkness while striving to meet international agreements. This misguided choice has inflicted untold suffering on families, businesses, and critical sectors.

A Nation Crippled by Darkness

The ongoing load-shedding crisis is not just an inconvenience—it is a disaster. Entire sectors of society have been devastated by the prolonged blackouts, which now stretch as long as 15 to 18 hours in some areas. This catastrophe has spared no one.

1. Economic Collapse:

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are on their knees. Welders, barbershops, tailors, and other trades that rely on power have been forced to shut down operations. This has led to widespread job losses and worsening poverty.

A welder in Kitwe lamented how his family has gone without food for days because his shop remains closed due to a lack of power. In Lusaka, small restaurant owners are throwing away spoiled food every week, compounding their financial losses.

Industries that form the backbone of the economy, such as mining and manufacturing, are also suffering. Reduced production hours are translating into revenue losses, diminished exports, and a growing economic crisis.

2. Families in Crisis:

Households across Zambia are bearing the brunt of the government’s failure to act. Families now struggle to cook meals, refrigerate food, and keep warm during the night. Many are forced to purchase charcoal, which is both expensive and harmful to the environment, further compounding the country’s challenges.

Urban households are struggling to find alternatives, while rural families, already facing limited access to resources, are even worse off. The government’s inaction is creating a humanitarian crisis.

3. Healthcare and Education Under Siege:

Power outages in hospitals and clinics are putting lives at risk. Vital equipment like ventilators and incubators cannot operate consistently. Clinics in rural areas are unable to refrigerate vaccines, jeopardizing the health of infants and expecting mothers.

In schools, the future of Zambia is being compromised. Students are forced to study by candlelight or sit idle in classrooms where no lessons can take place. The lack of power not only harms their academic performance but also robs them of the opportunities they deserve.

Exporting Electricity While Zambians Suffer

Despite the glaring crisis, the UPND government has stubbornly chosen to continue exporting electricity to Namibia and other countries. The rationale provided—long-term contracts and the need for foreign exchange—rings hollow when weighed against the suffering of Zambians.

1. Misguided Priorities:

It is incomprehensible that the government would prioritize meeting international agreements over the welfare of its people. While fulfilling obligations is important, it should never come at the expense of the citizens who elected the government into office. A responsible government would renegotiate such contracts, emphasizing the urgency of the domestic energy crisis.

2. Failure of Leadership:

True leadership requires bold decision-making in the face of challenges. Rather than taking decisive action to protect its citizens, the UPND has hidden behind technicalities and excuses. This lack of courage to confront Zambia’s energy partners demonstrates a failure to lead in the best interest of the nation.

3. Economic Sabotage:

The government’s insistence on exporting electricity may earn some foreign exchange in the short term, but the long-term damage to Zambia’s economy is far greater. Businesses are closing, industrial output is declining, and investors are losing confidence. This is not just a power crisis—it is economic sabotage.

No Excuses: The Government Has Failed

The UPND government cannot justify its neglect of Zambians. The decision to export electricity amidst such prolonged and severe load-shedding is nothing short of a betrayal. When citizens voted for the UPND in 2021, they were promised a government that would prioritize their well-being. Instead, they have been handed an administration more concerned with appeasing international partners than addressing the needs of its people.

The excuses offered by the government—global energy challenges, low water levels at hydropower stations, and contractual obligations—are unacceptable. Zambians deserve bold leadership, not blame-shifting. A government that cannot solve its citizens’ problems has no right to remain in office.

The Verdict: Time to Act or Step Aside

The UPND government has failed to deliver on its promises and is actively contributing to the suffering of its citizens. By exporting electricity while Zambians endure endless hours of load-shedding, the administration has shown a lack of empathy, leadership, and foresight.

Zambians are not asking for miracles—they are asking for responsible governance that prioritizes their well-being. If the UPND cannot fulfill this basic duty, it has no moral authority to remain in power.

The writing is on the wall: charity begins at home. A government that starves its own people while feeding others is not fit to lead.

UPND ALLIANCE PARTNERS INTENSIFY CAMPAIGNS FOR SEVERIAN LUNGU IN PETAUKE

UPND ALLIANCE PARTNERS INTENSIFY CAMPAIGNS FOR SEVERIAN LUNGU IN PETAUKE

January 29,2025

The United Party for National Development (UPND) and its Alliance Partners have launched vigorous campaigns in Petauke to secure votes for their parliamentary candidate, Severian Lungu.

The alliance, comprising the Economic Front, MMD, UNIP, NDC,  MDC and RPP has called on the electorate to rally behind Mr. Lungu for transformative leadership and sustainable development.

UPND National Management Committee Member Christopher Mwaba urged the community to vote for Severian Lungu, emphasizing that President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision for development can only be realized with dedicated representation.

“We are calling on the people of Petauke to vote for a candidate who will work to address the challenges you face,” Mr. Mwaba said, adding that the constituency’s underdevelopment despite previous representation is regrettable.

Economic Front Vice President Robert Chikwelete stated that his party’s decision to back UPND stems from the government’s firm stance against corruption and its commitment to uplifting communities.

“Our alliance with UPND is a testament to the trust we have in their ability to bring meaningful change and improve livelihoods,” Mr. Chikwelete said during the rally.

MMD Vice President Winnie Zaloumis warned the community against being misled by political parties that previously failed to deliver on their promises, urging them to support Mr. Lungu for progress.

“By voting for Mr. Lungu, you are choosing a future where development becomes a reality for Petauke,” Ms. Zaloumis stated.

UNIP Secretary General Alfred Banda highlighted the unified agenda of the Alliance Partners, noting that their support for the UPND candidate is rooted in a shared vision for guaranteed development.

Movement for Democratic Change representative Joyce Musenge echoed the sentiments, urging voters to prioritize leaders who are dedicated to improving their lives through effective representation.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lungu assured the residents of Petauke that once elected, he will tackle pressing challenges such as water shortages and other developmental needs.

“My promise to you is action, not words. Together, we will ensure that Petauke thrives and that no challenge is left unaddressed,” Mr. Lungu declared.

The UPND Alliance Partners have vowed to continue mobilizing voters, confident that their candidate will lead Petauke to a brighter future.

Give Valid Reasons For Dismissals – Court
By Dickson Jere

Pius Kasolo is a prominent Zambian who was appointed CEO of the state-run ZCCM-IH. While enjoying his second term as CEO, he made comments on the government’s proposed tax regime which appeared critical of the authorities. The Chairman of ZCCM-IH alerted him that his media comments did not sit well with the powers that be.

The same day, 1st February, 2019, he heard on ZNBC news that he had been fired at a press conference addressed by Minister of Mines and the presidential press aide. His dismissal was later confirmed in a letter in which he was told the company was looking for new CEO to run with the new Strategic Plan for 2018 – 2023. ZCCM-IH, instead, used the three month notice clause to terminate his contract.

He sued in the High Court, arguing that the reasons given in the letter was not the valid ones but that he was fired for something else. However, the Judge ruled in favour of ZCCM-IH saying they could terminate employment of any employee for “operational requirements”.

Unhappy with the outcome, he launched an appeal in the Court of Appeal where a panel of three Judges handled the case. Upon scrutiny, the Court held thus;

“We find, contrary to what the Judge found, that the reasons proffered by the Respondent for terminating the Appellant contract were neither valid nor justified,” the Judges observed.

“Considering the above, it is not far fetched for us to conclude, as we do, that operational requirements had nothing to with the termination,” the Judges ruled.

The Court also wondered how ZCCM-IH could be looking for a new CEO to implement the Strategic Plan that was crafted by Kasolo himself and the chairman praised him in the Foreword of the same document.

“It is now mandatory for employer to proffer a valid and substantiated reason for termination of employment, the Court said, adding that the notice clause in contracts is no longer an escape route.

On his demand to be paid damages for his termination of employment plus mental anguish and trauma, the Court agreed that he deserved to be compensated.

“We award the Appellant six months salary as damages for wrongful dismissal,” the Court ruled, adding that the same should be paid with interest.

“We have had sight of social media publications…here the Appellant, a CEO, was mercilessly trolled by social media users,” the Judges said, adding that he suffered trauma from the attacks.

He was called a sellout, puppet of the whites, unpatriotic in social media blogs.

For details, read the case of Pius Kasolo v ZCCM-IH -Appeal No. 185 of 2022 and Judgment delivered two months ago.

Unlike in the past, the law now requires that the employer should give valid and justified reasons for terminating employment contracts. The use of notice clause in contract of employment is no longer attainable in Zambia.

ZAMBIA HOSTS RETREAT FOR GLOBAL SOUTH COUNTRIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

ZAMBIA HOSTS RETREAT FOR GLOBAL SOUTH COUNTRIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Zambia has hosted a three-day Global South Retreat ahead of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Sustainable Development (FfD4) to be held in Saville, Spain later this year.

The Retreat, held in Lusaka from 26 to 28 January, attracted G77  Experts and diplomats representing Latin American, African, Asian, Caribbean, and Oceanian countries collectively dubbed the Global South.

The event, co-hosted and co-sponsored by Zambia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York-based Project Starling, and the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research (SAIPAR), aimed to provide critical inputs towards the finalisation of the Zero Draft of the Financing for Development (FfD) Outcome Document, a position paper expressing the Global South’s stance on key global development financing issues.

Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa, in a speech read on his behalf by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance in charge of Economic Management and Finance, Mulele Mulele, noted the challenges of financing to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He described the conference as an honourable platform for fostering sustainable development finance, expressing gratitude, on behalf of the Zambian Government, to the Zambian Permanent Mission for its role as one of the Co-Facilitators responsible for drafting the Outcome Document.

Mr. Nkulukusa highlighted the importance of investing in critical sectors for developing countries and noted the benefits of this distinguished Retreat in addressing systemic global financing and technical challenges.

He emphasised that the event was key for focusing the world on the Global South’s perspective on international finance and sustainable development.

In the same vein, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Chola Milambo, emphasised the importance of the forthcoming Spain meeting as it will establish the roadmap for global financing for the next five to ten years.

He highlighted that the Global South Member States are working towards ambitious and comprehensive solutions to global development challenges.

Dr. Milambo emphasized the significance of creating an inclusive platform that allows Member States to develop and implement sustainable development finance strategies.

He further stressed the need for particular attention to be paid to countries facing unique challenges, such as landlocked nations and small island developing states.

Dr. Milambo reiterated Zambia’s commitment to the FfD framework’s goals, aiming to contribute to global development and economic resilience.

He urged all to look forward to the forthcoming Conference in Saville, which he believed would be a key milestone for securing the necessary foothold towards fair and inclusive financing of the SDGs.

MOH must act fast before it’s too late – Tchakanga

By Francis Chipalo

Mufulira aspiring member of Chris Tchakanga has called on the Ministry of Health (MOH) to act fast before it is too late following the withdrawal of the USA from the World Health Organization (WHO).

And Tchakanga has described the withdrawal of the USA from WHO as a sad development especially to Zambia and other least developed countries.

Tchakanga says the move will have negative repercussions particularly on the already struggling health sector in the country considering that Zambia has projects that depend on WHO funding including initiatives like PEPFAR, adding that the impact will be felt deeply.

The aspiring parliamenterian says the potential disruption to ARV, Antimalaria drug, TB drugs and other essential health programs is alarming.

“The USA has been donating medicine and medical supplies to address shortages in our health facilities in the country,” he said.

Tchakanga says the American people through USAID has been supporting the training and capacity building of health professionals in Zambia, including pre- and in – service training, mentoring and performance management.

He says US President’s Emergency plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has been providing significant funding and support for HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention programs in Zambia specifically.

“These donations are aimed at strengthening Zambia’s Health systems, improving access to quality health care and addressing some of the country’s most pressing health challenges. This is a wake up call to the UPND government to put key important measures on how they are going to address this issues as soon as possible by putting up shot term and long term plan because it has negative impact to Zambia health sector,” Tchakanga said.

He advises that for short term measures, apart from changing procurement system, government through MOH should also consider Direct Financing to health facilities across the country.

“In the long term government should consider establishing its own pharmaceutical company so that it can be producing its own essential drugs like Antibiotics, Antimalaria, TB drugs and ARVs,”he said.

Meanwhile, Tchakanga says government should revisit mining concessions and tax waivers to improve the health sector in Zambia, saying this is because the country is losing over US 2 Billion dollars of tax waives per annum, money that can help the country to be self dependent when it comes to health sector.

Rumors, Resilience, and a Rebound: How False Sickness Claims Strengthened President Hichilema’s Standing

Rumors, Resilience, and a Rebound: How False Sickness Claims Strengthened President Hichilema’s Standing*

By Christopher Haambote

For the past week, Zambia has been inundated with a torrent of rumors and speculation on social media about the health of its 7th President, Hakainde Hichilema. The frenzy was fueled by Emmanuel Mwamba, a former senior government official, ex-diplomat to the African Union and Ethiopia, and a prominent member of the Patriotic Front (PF). Mwamba’s claims were amplified by an army of online trolls and Facebook pages, intensifying the spread of misinformation.

The speculation began after a dramatic evacuation at a high-profile military hospital in Lusaka. Dozens of patients were swiftly relocated following a fire alarm triggered by smoke detectors. Mwamba took to his Facebook page, alleging that the evacuation was a cover for secretly admitting a “VVIP” who had supposedly fallen ill—a term commonly used in Zambia to refer to the President.

The rumors gained momentum as rogue social media influencers linked to the PF, many of whom are allegedly controlled by Mwamba, flooded platforms with hourly updates claiming President Hichilema had suffered a stroke.

The situation threw the nation into a state of suspense, with Zambians recalling the tragic deaths of former serving Presidents, which had left lasting scars on the country’s collective psyche.

However, if the orchestrators of this misinformation aimed to destabilize the nation, their plan backfired. The false claims provoked widespread frustration and anxiety, with ordinary citizens across the country condemning the baseless rumors.

Those close to President Hichilema describe him as a health-conscious individual, known for his commitment to exercise and his abstinence from alcohol and tobacco, rooted in his Adventist faith. When he appeared at a Lusaka Air Force Base, en route to a scheduled international engagement in Tanzania, Zambians were relieved to see a healthy, vibrant President walking confidently toward his plane.

The baseless alarm raised by Emmanuel Mwamba and his associates appears to have unintentionally rallied public support for President Hichilema.

In a deeply Christian and conservative country like Zambia, such reckless rumors not only fail to achieve their intended effect but also strengthen the President’s standing.

For Mwamba, this episode represents a significant political misstep.

CONGOLESE TROOPS SURRENDER AS M23 REBELS CAPTURES GOMA

CONGOLESE TROOPS SURRENDER AS M23 REBELS CAPTURES GOMA.

Hundreds of UN staffers and civilians in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo fled to neighbouring Rwanda, while dozens of Congolese troops “surrendered” to Rwandan security forces on Monday after M23 rebels seized the key Congo city of Goma.

Footage, posted by Rwanda Broadcasting Agency on X, showed troops, some in army uniform, handing over arms to Rwandan security officers after crossing into the eastern neighbouring country at the main border crossing in Rwanda’s Rubavu district.

Meanwhile, at least 10 prisoners were killed while escaping from Goma’s Munzene central prison by setting fire, UN-backed Radio Okapi reported, adding that approximately 4,400 inmates escaped on Monday morning.

The latest development came hours after M23 rebels claimed to have entered Goma, forcing people to flee the city.

The M23 rebel group, allegedly backed by Rwanda, increased its offensive in eastern Congo last week, seizing key towns.
However, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has repeatedly denied claims of supporting the rebels.

“Hundreds of Congolese citizens, including men, women, children, and UN mission staff, fled to Rwanda on Monday following the capture of Goma by rebels,” a migration official told Anadolu, requesting anonymity as he was not authorised to talk to the media.

Sporadic gunfire was heard in parts of Goma Monday morning, and “we are fleeing because there is no certainty yet on the security situation,” a Goma resident who entered Rwanda told Anadolu over the phone.

While some footage showed jubilant citizens cheering as rebels entered Goma, residents reported that several businesses in the city remained closed.
Separate reports indicated Congolese and Rwandan troops were firing across the shared border, but Anadolu was unable to independently verify.

Kishaha government spokesman Patrick Muyaya claimed Monday on the X social media platform that soldiers from neighbouring Rwanda were present in Goma.

Patrick urged the public to stay at home and avoid vandalism and looting while also calling for an end to Rwanda’s “manipulative propaganda.”
He also called on all the Congolese, “wherever they are in the world, to mobilize in support of our compatriots” of North Kivu province, as well as government armed forces.

Muyaya reassured the population on Monday that the government continues to work to avoid carnage and loss of human life in view of the situation in Goma.
On Sunday, the M23 rebels announced the closure of airspace over Goma, claiming that coalition forces supporting the Kinshasa regime were loading bombs at Goma Airport.

Congo has blamed Rwanda for the death of North Kivu Governor General Peter Cirimwami, who was killed on the battlefield on Friday.

Rihanna “Considering” In Person Support During rapper A$AP Rocky Trial

A$AP Rocky is in a tricky legal situation. The rapper turned down a plea deal that would have seen him spend 180 days behind bars. His lawyer insists he is not guilty of the felony gun charges he’s been hit with. If found guilty, however, Rocky will be sentenced to 24 years in prison. It’s a pivotal moment in his career and his life. Which is why Rihanna’s involvement has been such a talking point. The pop star has not appeared in court during her partner’s trial. TMZ speculates that Rihanna’s no-shows may be over, though.

Sources close to the singer told TMZ that she is “considering” in-person support. Rihanna is reportedly aware of the power of her celebrity, and the impact it could have on A$AP Rocky’s case. The fact the duo share two children could also play a role. Rihanna has not spoken about her partner’s legal troubles in a public space, but various outlets have given secondhand accounts of her reactions. Radar Online alleged that RiRi was is concerned about her family’s future. “Publicly, Rihanna is putting on a brave front,” said a source close to the singer. “But behind the scenes she is freaking out.”

The source claimed that the anticipation of the trial has taken a toll on Rihanna. “This has been hanging over them for all these years, but now the trial is here and it’s showtime,” they added. They also opened up the possibility that a guilty verdict could sour Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s relationship. “So much is riding on (the trial) as far as Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s future goes,” the source alleged. “They have never really had the test of prison time, and there’s no telling how he’ll react if the judge rules against him.”

A$AP Rocky has not had things going his way, based on recent reports. Deputy District Attorney John Lewin reportedly told Rocky’s family that he should have taken the plea deal that was offered him. Then there was the jury selection. There were no Black people selected, which led to outrage from both A$AP Rocky’s lawyer and Rev. Al Sharpton. Only time will tell if the jury proves to be an issue for the rapper. And if Rihanna chooses to make her presence known in court.

It’s a joke, my wife can’t go out with Musyani, Yo Maps tells court

It’s a joke, my wife can’t go out with Musyani, Yo Maps tells court

RENOWNED Zambian artiste, Elton Mulenga alias Yo Maps has laughed off suggestions that Elias Musyani, a social media content creator had a relationship with his wife, Kidist Kifle.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1XZoSdPSkA/?mibextid=oFDknk

The singer rejected the suggestions during a court hearing yesterday when Musyani’s lawyer, Douglas Njolomba asked him during cross examination if he was aware that Musyani and Kidist were once in a  relationship.

“It’s a joke,” Mulenga responded to lawyer’s question.

Njolomba asked Mulenga if he knew the relationship between Musyani and his wife to which Yo Maps said there was none.

The lawyer further asked if he knew the reason why his wife had Musyani’s number in her phone and again Yo Maps expressed ignorance.

“Do you wish to know the conversation between the two?” Lawyer asked. “I already know,” Yo Maps responded.

“If I put it to you that your wife has been going out with the accused, what could be your response?”

In response, Mulenga denied that it could be a lie.

When asked if he knew that the two had been communicating, he said he was privy to their conversation because whenever they communicate, he was present.

Mulenga also complained to the court how Musyani insulted his wife on Facebook and called her a she devil, witch and long faced.

He also told the court that Musyani threatened to kill his three year old daughter.

“I got scared of his threatening words and I stopped taking my daughter to school in fear of not knowing what could happen to her,” he said.

Yo Maps said he retrieved the insulting video on Musyani’s Facebook account after he posted the recorded audio.

He informed the court that Musyani was heard apologizing on the insults he unleashed on Mulenga’s family at a named podcast.

In this matter, Musyani is facing two counts of harassment utilising means of electronic communication, contrary to section 69 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act number 2 of 2021.

Allegations are that on April 8, 2024, the accused, using a computer system, intentionally initiated an electronic communication on his Facebook page, Elias Musyani.

The electronic communication was allegedly intended to coerce, intimidate, harass or cause emotional distress to Kifle.

The court has since adjourned the matter to February 12, 2025 for continuation of trial.

EMMANUEL MWAMBA AND AGENDA SETTING

0

EMMANUEL MWAMBA AND AGENDA SETTING

A well-trained journalist, free from political bias, will recognize that Emmanuel Mwamba’s deliberate use of communication to achieve his goals is a textbook example of Strategic Communication. This approach involves planning, crafting, and delivering messages that align with specific objectives, ensuring consistency and impact. It focuses on influencing perceptions, behaviors, and decision-making to shape the narrative and set the agenda.

Agenda Setting in Strategic Communication refers to the ability to determine which issues or topics dominate public discourse. Rather than merely reacting to events, this method demands proactive communication, where strategic leaders influence public perception through consistent and targeted messaging. By doing so, they take control of conversations rather than passively following the lead of others.

While Ambassador Mwamba skillfully applied these techniques via his Facebook posts over the weekend, the government resorted to reactive media and public relations, a stark contrast. Reactive media often involves responding to events as they arise, focusing on damage control and addressing immediate inquiries. This approach frequently results in missed opportunities to shape narratives or advance goals. In contrast, proactive media and strategic communication involve anticipating challenges and opportunities, crafting messages ahead of time, and maintaining control over the narrative to prevent crises or amplify positive outcomes.

Ambassador Mwamba’s actions demonstrate that he is not just a communicator but a strategic communicator who remains ahead of his critics. Strategic communication emphasizes proactivity because it enables individuals and organizations to set the agenda, rather than letting external forces dictate priorities. It also capitalizes on opportunities to align messages with organizational or personal goals while resonating with public sentiment.

Instead of threatening Ambassador Mwamba, the government should consider investing in strategic communication. Shifting from reactive to proactive media strategies would enhance their ability to set the agenda and shape public discourse effectively. Ambassador Mwamba’s methods serve as a reminder that his role as a PF spokesperson is not by chance but a reflection of his training and experience as a journalist.

WE WERE NOT ‘GIFTED’ FUEL TANKERS, SAYS CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF LIVINGSTONE

WE WERE NOT ‘GIFTED’ FUEL TANKERS, SAYS CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF LIVINGSTONE

The Catholic Diocese of Livingstone categorically refutes the baseless allegations which recently appeared on a named social media platform that it was “gifted” four fuel tankers allegedly diverted from a youth empowerment programme under the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts. These claims are factually incorrect, misleading, and appear to be an attempt to discredit the diocese.

1. Acquisition of Fuel Tankers:
The diocese was not “gifted” the fuel tankers. Instead, in response to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts advertisement circulated in January 2022, the diocese applied for the tankers following the proper procedures, including the paying of all required amounts then. The Diocese was among other organisations that applied and granted the tankers.

On 5th October 2023, five (5) tankers were handed over after meeting all requirements. This was done transparently and in good faith to support the diocese’s Youth Community Training Centre and other youth development activities.

Proceeds from the tankers were intended to assist these initiatives of empowering youths in Livingstone and surrounding areas. The diocese’s youth empowerment programmes target young people regardless of their political or religious affiliation. However, the government later directed that proceeds from the tankers would be sent to the Ministry Youth, which would then distribute the funds as it would deem appropriate. Any suggestion of improper dealings or favours is therefore erroneous and unfounded.

2. Pre-Existing Operations of the Filling Station:
The Catholic Diocese of Livingstone has operated a fuel filling station in Livingstone since April 2011, long before the current UPND government came into power. This station is well-known to the public and is part of the diocese’s ongoing mission to serve its people. Moreover, Rubis Energy Zambia, the owners of the filling station, have since reclaimed it, meaning the diocese no longer has any involvement in its operations. This further disproves any claims of undue benefit linked to the station.

3. Transparency in Cattle Donations:
The allegation that an “unnamed diocese” secretly received a substantial number of exotic cattle from the government is equally unfounded. During the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Catholic Diocese of Mongu on 26th August 2023, the President publicly announced that each catholic diocese would receive 10 cattle. This gesture was made openly and transparently, and the information is widely known in the public domain. Any attempt to portray this as a secret or preferential arrangement is false.

4. Condemnation of False Claims:
We strongly condemn these baseless allegations, which appear to be part of a deliberate effort to tarnish the reputation of the Catholic Diocese of Livingstone. Such accusations are not only misleading but also an affront to the work we do in serving the spiritual and developmental needs of our diocese.

We urge all individuals and organisations, including whistleblowers and media outlets, to verify information before making public statements. Misrepresenting facts only serves to mislead the public and undermine the credibility of those involved in community service.
The Catholic Diocese of Livingstone remains committed to its mission of serving the people of God with integrity and transparency, and we will not be deterred by unfounded accusations.

KACHASU ADDICT TAKES INSULTS TO THE POLICE STATION

AFTER a Lusaka magistrate withdrew an assault case against a woman accused of threatening to hit her mother with an iron bar, the suspect allegedly later went to a police station in drunken state and started insulting.

It is alleged that Jane Chilando also bragged that she had been released from remand after the case against her was withdrawn.

Zambia Daily Mail has learnt that Chilando, a self confessed addict of kachasu and a resident of John Laing, is also reportedly upset that her mother dragged her to court over her delinquency.

Two weeks ago, Chilando was before Lusaka magistrate Amy Masoja-Chilangwa charged with threatening violence.

The 36-year-old mother of f ive was accused of threatening to hit her mother, Martha Bwalya, 63, with an iron bar.

But when the case was called, Ms Bwalya, while carrying Jane’s four-month-old infant, informed the court that she wanted to withdraw the case.

She said she had forgiven her daughter so that the accused can fend for her children.

Ms Bwalya, of John Laing, shared how Chilando would leave her five children with her, opting to go drinking.
She said her wayward daughter would often refuse to breastfeed her infant at one month.

Magistrate Chilangwa, who noted Chilando’s unrepentant disposition, had adjourned the case to a later date to explore alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and involvement of social welfare services.

But the Zambia Daily Mail has learnt that after the case was later withdrawn recently, Jane went to the police station where she had been apprehended from to brag about her release.

IN PICTURE: Ms Bwalya was two weeks ago captured outside the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court carrying a four months-old infant for her daughter,  after she testified against  Jane, whom she had dragged to court for threatening to beat her with an iron bar

DISTINGUISHING AN INSURANCE SCHEME FROM A PUBLIC FUND: The Case Study of NHIMA Challenges

DISTINGUISHING AN INSURANCE SCHEME FROM A PUBLIC FUND: The Case Study of NHIMA Challenges

By Zanga Musakuzi – Pharmacist, Entrepreneur, Innovator and CEO of Medsearch Zambia

The fundamental difference between an insurance scheme and a public health fund lies in their scope and structure of benefits. An insurance scheme is designed to provide specific, limited coverage based on the contributions of its members. Conversely, a public health fund operates on a broader scale, aiming to provide universal health services without necessarily tying benefits to individual contributions.

THE CORE PROBLEM: UNLIMITED COVERAGE

Globally, insurance schemes are built on a delicate balance between contributions and payouts. For NHIMA, contributions are primarily sourced from formal sector employees and their employers, supplemented by voluntary contributors. However, the absence of defined limits on benefits has disrupted this balance. Members and their dependents can access healthcare services without restriction, creating a scenario where outflows far exceed inflows.

This dynamic is akin to managing a stream where water trickles in slowly while people drink without restraint. Without setting boundaries on how much water can be drawn, the stream risks running dry. Similarly, NHIMA faces the challenge of ensuring its financial resources can sustain its growing obligations.

By offering unlimited benefits, NHIMA risks transitioning from an insurance scheme to a public health fund. This shift necessitates substantial and consistent government funding—resources that are not readily available given Zambia’s current economic climate. Addressing this challenge requires clearly distinguishing NHIMA’s role as an insurance scheme and aligning its operations with sustainable principles. Implementing caps on benefits, refining its funding model, and prioritizing efficient resource allocation are critical steps to ensure its longevity and effectiveness.

Insurance schemes worldwide are built on a delicate balance of contributions and payouts. For NHIMA, contributions flow in steadily, primarily from formal sector employees and their employers, along with voluntary contributors. However, the absence of a cap on benefits has created an unsustainable dynamic. Essentially, members and their dependents can access healthcare services without defined limits, leading to a scenario where more money flows out than comes in.

This situation can be likened to managing a stream where water trickles in at a slow pace while people drink without restriction. Without controlling how much water can be drawn, the stream runs the risk of drying up. Similarly, NHIMA is now faced with the challenge of ensuring that its financial resources are adequate to meet its growing obligations.

DISTINGUISHING A SCHEME FROM A PUBLIC FUND

The fundamental difference between an insurance scheme and a public health fund lies in the scope and structure of benefits. An insurance scheme is designed to provide specific, limited coverage based on the contributions of its members. In contrast, a public health fund operates on a broader scale, providing universal health services without necessarily tying benefits to contributions.

NHIMA, as it stands, risks blurring this line. By offering unlimited benefits, it is moving closer to functioning as a public health fund, which requires substantial and consistent government funding—a luxury not readily available in Zambia’s current economic climate.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

To ensure NHIMA remains a viable insurance scheme, strategic measures must be implemented:

1. SET ANNUAL OR MONTHLY COVERAGE LIMITS:
   – Establish a ceiling on how much a member can claim in a given period, whether monthly or annually. This will help control expenditure and ensure equitable access to resources.

2. DEFINE COVERED SERVICES:
   – Specify the types of services covered under NHIMA. For instance, high-cost treatments or elective procedures could be excluded or subjected to co-payments.

3. INTRODUCE TIERED BENEFITS:
   – Differentiate benefits based on contribution levels. Members contributing more could have access to higher coverage limits, while basic coverage can be maintained for lower-tier contributors.

4. SPECIAL PROVISIONS FOR VULNERABLE POPULATIONS:
   – Provide defined benefits for non-contributors, such as the elderly, under a separate funding mechanism. This ensures that the most vulnerable populations are not excluded while maintaining the financial integrity of the scheme.

5. ENHANCE REVENUE STREAMS:
   – Broaden the contributor base by incentivizing informal sector participation and exploring alternative funding sources, such as earmarked taxes or donor funding.

6. STRENGTHEN GOVERNANCE AND MONITORING:
   – Implement robust systems to monitor claim patterns, detect fraud, and ensure efficient resource allocation.

NHIMA’s vision of universal healthcare is commendable and aligns with Zambia’s aspirations for achieving equitable health access. However, its current financial struggles underscore the need for reform. By redefining its structure to incorporate limitations and focusing on its role as an insurance scheme, NHIMA can regain its footing and continue to serve the Zambian population effectively. Without these changes, the risk of overburdening the system remains high, ultimately jeopardizing the scheme’s future.

The time to act is now. Policymakers, stakeholders, and the public must come together to support reforms that will ensure NHIMA’s sustainability and success in the long term.

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba has finally built a case to seek political asylum

Zambia Police Issue more threats of arrests of Emmanuel Mwamba

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba Wrote;

The Zambia Police have issued threats of arrests against me. Senior UPND members have called for the “Intelligence” to “clear me” as you must have seen their various published WhatsApp screen shots and reports.

So far there have been threats of arrest because of my comments made on;

1. Medical evacuation of patients at Maina Soko Medical Centre ( it is true there was removal of patients 24th January 2024 from wards to the car park).

2. Speculations on the health status of President Hakainde Hichilema. I only asked ; “Where is the President” when he didn’t turn up at the launch of the ground-breaking ceremony of the construction of the phosphate plant.

Here are some quick thought on this matter regarding speculations on the health status of a President

In many cases here in Zambia as seen in the matter of Levy Mwanawasa and Michael Sata, the problem is not the sickness of a head of state.

It’s the lies and subsequent fabrications that emerge in protecting the lies that purport that he is fine that eventually take the Presidents.

The President’s close circle relies on portraying a healthy President and thereby deny him a great opportunity to seek proper medical attention because they have to produce and present him to the public.

Kateka muntu fye nawo! Alalwala!

We heard statements like “Levy is Jogging”, “He is doing very well”, “he is just from having an intense meeting”, “Those speculating about Michael Sata’s health are evil as he is fit as a fiddle”.

Many will remember how I, as Spokesperson for the Second Presodent, personally handled the sickness and frequent evacuations and medical episodes of former President, Dr. Frederick Chiluba from 2006-2011.

I issued regular updates and didnt shy away to confirm when he was admitted to hospital.

Sometimes I received strong criticism that I had made his health status, a private matter, public….but I believed my action to be transparent was a betyer option and chose the truth than to participate in a lie.

We probably saw a window of the three scenarios stated above, this past weekend.

3. Newly introduced uniform by the Zambia Army. Zambia Army has confirmed introducing new uniforms and stated that this is for Friday or Weekend wear!

The law and regulations regarding defence and security uniforms clearly stipulates, prescribes and describes the various types of uniforms the memebers of the defence and security forces adorn, from ceremonial to combat uniforms. I merely questioned whether the law was followed.

4. Police Presence at Flava FM.

Yes four officers turned up during the period the UN Special Rapporteur was at Flava FM. The four officers were not part of the UN and state security. The officers were asking difficult questions to the staff such as as to ensure that she doesn’t appear on radio.

They also wanted to know if she was meeting any witnesses.  I have seen the communication from Flava FM and the management has chosen to tell a blue lie. I know stations are afraid of the revocation of their licences and other considerations.

But I have it on good ground that the four Zambia Police officers appeared at Flava FM and witnesses are there to confirm the fact.

Flava FM must understand that covering up a crime is a bigger crime than the first crime committed.

We are very aware that radio callers, critical of government, have constantly faced harrasment and many have been detained at various pllice stations across the country.

On this matter, if I were in authority, I would demand the following;

1. who sent the four officers?
2 what did they want from the visit of the Special Rapporteur?
3. Who takes such a  zeslous stupid risk?

Was I lying about the presence of the Police Officers at the radio station  Hell NO..when people give me information, I always do atleast a minimum verification before publication.

The UPND and the State, because of the tyrany, dictatorship and failing economy and poor political prospects they face in the 2026 presidential and general elections, have shut down dissenting voices and quickly resorted to crude methods and intimidation tactics to handle credible voices.

Since labels such as “corruption” or “thief” can’t stick on me, they want to undermine my role and my voice by repeatedly presenting me or portraying me as a “liar” or “propagandist”.

I’ve never answered to what my political opponents or enemies call me.

I know who I am.

Police warn Emmanuel Mwamba

PRESS STATEMENT
POLICE RESPONSE TO FALSE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS REGARDING FLAVA FM AND UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR

January 27,2025-The Zambia Police Service strongly refutes and condemns the false allegations circulating on social media platforms, specifically on the Facebook pages under the names “Emmanuel Mwamba” and “Patriotic Front-PF.”
The posts claim that:

“Zambia Police have surrounded Flava FM. UN Special Rapporteur, Irene Khan, is at the radio station. They are trying to stop her!”

“Police are preventing the UN Special Rapporteur from conducting interviews at Flava FM, Kitwe.”

These claims are entirely baseless, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to create unnecessary panic, distrust, and confusion among the public. At no time did the Zambia Police surround Flava FM or interfere with any activities at the radio station. Furthermore, the Zambia Police have not engaged in any action aimed at obstructing the UN Special Rapporteur, Irene Khan, from conducting her lawful duties in Zambia.

The Zambia Police Service remains committed to respecting and upholding media freedom, the independence of international observers, and the protection of human rights, as enshrined in the Constitution of Zambia. We view these falsehoods as irresponsible acts intended to tarnish the image of the Zambia Police Service and disrupt public trust in law enforcement.

This falsehood represents a clear abuse of social media platforms, which undermines public confidence and unnecessarily disrupts peace and order.

We urge members of the public to verify information through official and credible channels before sharing or believing in unsubstantiated claims.

The Zambia Police Service remains committed to ensuring a secure and peaceful environment for all citizens and entities. Anyone found spreading false information intended to cause public alarm will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Lusaka, Monday 27th January 2025

Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) and the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to mark another important testament to the Church Mother Bodies shared commitment to collaboration and innovation.

The MOU will be operationalized through the 3 mother bodies – Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG), a consortium that began on 28th November 2014.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka, (EFZ) Chairperson Bishop Paul Mususu says the occasion is an important milestone in the consortium’s shared journey and a testament to its commitment to safeguarding democracy in the country.

Bishop Mususu continued “the partnership is rooted in the premise of effective monitoring of the electoral process and the promotion of credible elections.” And this he added “is in recognizing that the promotion and adherence to the principle of the rule of law premised upon the respect for and supremacy of the constitution and constitutional order is the cornerstone of any democratic dispensation.”

The church mother bodies also reaffirms the church occupies an important position in society and it has a critical role to play before, during, and after elections. CCMG will with the MOU signed, facilitate a platform for information gathering through systematic and non-partisan observation and monitoring of electoral activities to enhance community and policy engagements.

And Bishop Mususu, concludes, “it is a collective honour to officially unveil this important collaboration of the 3 church mother bodies towards its work in strengthening genuine democratic electoral processes and encouraging citizen participation in democratic governance in Zambia.”

NOT EVERY ONE CAN BE CONNECTED TO THE PRESIDENT: A MESSAGE TO UPND LEADERS AND APPOINTEES

NOT EVERY ONE CAN BE CONNECTED TO THE PRESIDENT: A MESSAGE TO UPND LEADERS AND APPOINTEES

Leadership is a privilege, not an entitlement. Many of you have been appointed to serve the people, yet instead of decentralizing opportunities, some prioritize their families and close circles. This is not what true leadership stands for. When you’re given an opportunity to be a leader fight to leave behind a good matk to the communities especially the marginalized populations.

You can now hide behind your tinted vehicles, but remember soon, you will need the same people whose calls you ignore, the same villagers you are neglecting today.I wish the president would wake up one day and declare the suspension of payments for all senior government officials for two years. How many of you would willingly serve this nation pro bono? True leadership is about selflessness and service, not comfort and privilege.

Despite HH making significant strides and impactful pronouncements, many UPND leaders have failed to effectively support and defend him. Could it be that some of you have grown too comfortable? Always remember that without HH ascending to the presidency, none of you would be occupying the offices you hold today.

The fact remains that if all of you in these positions worked as hard as the president, Zambians would have seen even greater progress. It is unacceptable that UPND still lacks a sound and effective communication strategy to highlight the president’s achievements over the past five years, especially when resources are available.

Let this serve as a reminder: you are in your positions because of HH. If you have no intention of helping ordinary citizens, at least help the president succeed. Your complacency not only undermines his efforts but also exposes him to unnecessary risks and criticism.

Some of you were appointed by the president to decentralize opportunities and empower communities, but what do you do when opportunities arise? You prioritize your relatives. This is not leadership. Create opportunities for families without connections in government so they too can benefit and experience progress. That’s how we develop communities.

The same way you ask for votes from everyone, even those unrelated to you, should be the same way you ensure opportunities reach everyone, no matter how small. Some of you in these positions have failed to follow through on key pronouncements, such as cash-for-works programs, and yet you mislead the president by claiming progress has been made. Meanwhile, the ordinary voter continues to struggle in these villages.

Let us have a heart for humanity. Many of you today are living comfortably you’ve gained weight, look well-dressed, and have access to money and countless opportunities. But do you ever take a moment to visit the compounds or villages and see the reality of how your voters are living?

Please, change your behavior. Leadership is about serving all people, not just a select few. It’s time to step up and work in alignment with his vision for the nation.

At least support the man so that, even when he is out of power, he can proudly say, “I changed my country, and this was a success.” Unfortunately, some of you change like chameleons if he were to lose power today, you’d shamelessly jump to the next government because you are driven by self-interest and what benefits your stomach, not by genuine service to the nation.

WORRISOME LAX ATTITUDES ON HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS BY UPND ALIGNED LEADERS- New Heritage Party

WORRISOME LAX ATTITUDES ON HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS BY UPND ALIGNED LEADERS

The New Heritage Party is deeply disturbed by the reckless remarks made by the leader of the Economic Front, Mr  Wynter Kabimba, a man who is not only a prominent lawyer but also holds the esteemed title of State Counsel. His argument that Zambia’s human rights record under President Hakainde Hichilema is good simply because people can speak freely and still enjoy tea the following day, which wouldn’t happen in other countries like Rwanda and Uganda, is dangerous and frightening.

In his attempt to downplay human rights violations in Zambia, he makes the abhorrent presupposition that because, according to his assessment, the regimes in Rwanda and Uganda are brutal with terrible human rights records, Zambia is better off and it’s president is not worth criticizing. This unhelpful comparison betrays a strange lack of understanding of human rights and justice, especially by a prominent lawyer. Violations are not judged by how brutal they are compared to others, but by whether they exist at all.

It is horrifying to imagine that a State Counsel would believe that we should remain silent about human rights violations unless they escalate to the levels of disappearances, beatings, or killings, which his reference to the two countries appears to imply. Violations, however “small,” must be noted, reported, and stopped. That is the duty of every responsible leader and every defender of justice. This, unfortunately, is a duty the EF leader has chosen to shirk in favor of singing praises for the government.

Maybe we should not be surprised at all! Because this is the same Mr Kabimba who, as Secretary General of the Patriotic Front (PF) in 2011, openly and famously questioned why PF party cadres were not “acting” against those criticizing the then-president, Michael Sata. “Maybe you think you’re still in the opposition?” he questioned the cadres!

What followed this clear incitement, if not encouragement for cadres to take the law into their hands, remains well documented. The PF ushered in years of unbearable lawlessness, intimidation, and violence—an era the Zambian people punished by voting them out of office. And the Zambians have not forgotten at all that Mr Kabimba WAS a part of that PF lawlessness.

Similarly, lest we forget, when once upon a time Mr  Kabimba was summoned by the Anti-Corruption Commission to attend an interview and assist with investigations of some matter, Mr Kabimba arrived at the ACC offices flanked by a mob of rowdy party cadres, disrupting due process and demonstrating his disdain for law and order. How can such a gentleman, with this disappointing record, be expected to understand and appreciate tolerance and respect for democracy, and claim moral high ground on Zambia’s human rights situation?

His selective blindness to the abuses of the UPND government is nothing short of scandalous. His metric for “no violations” is that Zambia has not yet descended into a Rwanda or Uganda-like state, where according to him, dissent is supposedly met with brutal repression. But Zambia’s trajectory under the UPND is far from encouraging. UPND leaders, such as Namwala MP Moono Mapani, are openly calling for arrests of citizens who simply reported an unverified story about Zambia’s alleged expulsion from the UN Human Rights Council. When a harmless story becomes a jail-worthy offense, is that not evidence of an emerging culture of intolerance and oppression? Shouldn’t the ruling party be laughing off such stories, especially when the UN have repudiated them, instead of intolerantly calling for jail terms for “offenders”?

The New Heritage Party holds that any human rights violation, no matter how seemingly insignificant, is unacceptable. Our prisons should not be used to silence dissenting voices or punish people for inaccurate or error-loaded reporting. Leaders like Mr Kabimba and Mr Mapani should be at the forefront of promoting and defending human rights, not excusing or justifying violations.

As a nation, we must strive for a culture where the rights and freedoms of every citizen are upheld and respected. Zambia deserves better than the complacency being displayed by those defending the indefensible.

Chamisa rebukes Zanu-PF

Former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has criticized President Emmerson Mnangagwa for allegedly attempting to extend his time in office beyond 2028 by manipulating a faction within the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Mnangagwa, who came to power in 2018 after a coup ousted long-time president Robert Mugabe, is set to complete his second and constitutionally mandated term in 2028. However, some Zanu-PF members are reportedly lobbying for him to stay longer, claiming it is necessary to “complete unfinished developmental projects.”

Chamisa made his comments in a cryptic speech at the funeral of Glenview South Member of Parliament (MP), Grandmore Hakata, in Harare on Saturday. In his address, Chamisa condemned the state of governance in Zimbabwe, pointing to failing infrastructure and poor service delivery as a result of bad leadership. He expressed disbelief at the suggestion that Mnangagwa should remain in office beyond 2028.

“Chinonzi mumiriri kugara nevanhu, kutaura nevanhu, kufamba nevanhu, kubuda muvanhu, uchidzokera muvanhu, uchitaura zvevanhu, usingakanganwi vanhu, usingarasi vanhu,” Chamisa said, emphasizing the disconnect between leaders and the people. “I saw the roads, then the sewage, then the shops, everything is in ruins. I asked, why? You speak of things you’ve destroyed, and now you want to go to the mountain with what you’ve done. Where do you want to go?”

Chamisa urged opposition members to uphold the values that the late Hakata fought for, stressing the need to defend citizens’ rights and welfare. Hakata, a vocal Chamisa supporter, gained prominence after his arrest shortly before the 2023 general elections for allegedly holding an unauthorized car rally. Despite being imprisoned, he won his seat and was only released after the elections.

Hinting at a possible political comeback, Chamisa, who stepped down as CCC president citing Zanu-PF’s infiltration of the opposition, urged his supporters to stay strong and vigilant. He declared that Mnangagwa’s exit was imminent, saying, “He who says I’m not going, is already gone.”

Fellow opposition activist and former legislator, Gift Ostallos Siziba, also weighed in, arguing that the majority of Zimbabweans are against the idea of a term extension. Siziba stated that the 2023 election results—widely disputed—must first be resolved before any conversation about 2028 can take place.

“We are the majority, and we won’t accept the 2030 agenda…you cannot extend a stolen mandate,” Siziba said. “Mnangagwa has no mandate to remain in office beyond 2028. The person elected by the people was Advocate Nelson Chamisa.”

Siziba also accused Zanu-PF of using United States dollars to buy the loyalty of certain opposition members, a tactic Hakata resisted, staying true to the struggle for democracy.

Despite Mnangagwa’s repeated denials, including his claim at the 2023 Zanu-PF National People’s Conference that he is a “constitutionalist” and would not seek a term extension, rumors persist that he is backing factionalists pushing the “2030 agenda.” This growing divide within Zanu-PF appears to signal the possibility of significant political maneuvering in the run-up to 2028.

As political tensions continue to rise, Chamisa’s calls for a change in leadership resonate strongly among Zimbabweans who feel disillusioned with the current government’s inability to deliver on its promises.

Snoop Dogg hails 2Pac’s impact on his music career

Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg shared his thoughts on the lasting impact of the late 2Pac on his career, stating that he admired his work ethic and now carries “his spirit” inside of him.

Speaking in an interview on the R&B Money Podcast, Snoop left opened up about how the late 2Pac influenced him and the culture at Death Row Records.

To Snoop Dogg, 2Pac encouragement in taking his creativity and style to a new level ultimately led him to become a better version of himself.

“When 2Pac came to Death Row [Records], he was like, ‘Na, you gotta step your fly up. Na, you gotta get your hair done, your nails did, like the players in the Bay,’” Snoop recalled. “When we did the ‘[2 of] Amerikaz Most Wanted’ video, he specifically said, ‘Na, lay your shit down… I ain’t got no hair, na.’”

The legendary rapper also described 2Pac as someone with a deep understanding of what it meant to be a star and professional, and he says that quickly transformed the operations at Death Row.

“He was way ahead of us. We was just artists, he was a superstar, you see what I’m saying?” Snoop said. “He probably wasn’t a big ass superstar, but he was a superstar as far as knowing and understanding what it takes to be a star.”

In 1996, 2Pac was killed in a drive-by shooting at age 25 but had already been involved in movies and on set, which reportedly helped him understand what Death Row needed to do to succeed.

“He helped us get great at spontaneous things like making music and putting stuff out,” Snoop said.

One of the key ways 2Pac influenced Death Row was in how the label adopted ways to be productive, especially in the studio.

Snoop recalled that before 2Pac’s arrival, time at the studio was often wasted, but the late rapper quickly instilled a new sense of urgency, and that was key in turning things around.

“Studio time became valuable when he was there,” Snoop said. “Before it was just like n*s in there nine hours. Now it’s like, ‘That na ‘Pac coming up here looking to work. Whoever in their bullshit gotta get out.’”

Snoop Dogg says he continues to carry 2Pac’s spirit of productivity, particularly now that he owns Death Row Records, a label he acquired in 2022.

“As I move with Death Row now, his spirit is all in me. That’s how I move. I don’t wait. I used to wait,” he said.

The 53-year-old revealed 2Pac helped shift the label’s mindset about music creation from a place of perfecting one song to pushing the team to stay focused on continuous creativity, and it has remained crucial to his successful career.

Bill Gates admits he was ‘foolish’ to spend time with Jeffrey Epstein

0

Bill Gates has addressed his controversial former relationship with the late Jeffrey Epstein, admitting that it was “a huge mistake” to associate with the convicted child s3x offender. “In retrospect, I was foolish to spend any time with him,” the Microsoft co-founder told the Wall Street Journal in an interview. “I think I was quite stupid. I thought it would help me with global health philanthropy. In fact, it failed to do that. It was just a huge mistake.”

Gates further acknowledged that he had become wary of making new connections after Epstein’s death by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of s3x trafficking and federal conspiracy. “I think I was quite stupid. I thought it would help me with global health philanthropy. In fact, it failed to do that. It was just a huge mistake,” he added.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Epstein had threatened to expose Gates’ alleged affair with Russian bridge player Mila Antonova in 2017 after Gates declined to join Epstein’s multibillion-dollar charitable fund with JPMorg

an Chase. Epstein, who had known Antonova since 2013, had paid for her to enrol in a software coding school.

The billionaire philanthropist, who was married to Melinda Gates from 1994 to 2021, admitted that he had been in a relationship with Antonova for years. In March 2022, Melinda, 60, claimed that Epstein played a role in the breakdown of her marriage to Bill. She said during an appearance on CBS Mornings that she left the 27-year marriage “for many things,” including her ex-husband’s relationship with Epstein. “I did not like that he had meetings with Jeffrey Epstein, no. I made that clear to him,” she said, recalling that she only met Epstein once, but “regretted it the second I walked in the door.”

Melinda further described Epstein as “abhorrent” and “evil personified,” adding that her heart breaks for the women affected by his actions. Bill, in a separate interview with The Times of London, said that his divorce from Melinda was the “mistake” he regrets most. “There are others but none that matter,” he said. “The divorce thing was miserable for me and Melinda for at least two years.”

Although their marriage ended, Bill and Melinda have maintained an amicable relationship and share three adult children: Jennifer, 28, Rory, 25, and Phoebe, 22. Melinda has since moved on with entrepreneur Philip Vaughn, while Bill is now dating Paula Hurd.

Ruben Amorim says he would rather play a 63-year-old goalkeeping coach over Marcus Rashford

Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim has suggested he’d rather play a 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than a player who isn’t giving the maximum when asked why Marcus Rashford wasn’t playing.

The England forward has not been involved in a matchday squad for United for six weeks and he was left out once again for Sunday’s 1-0 win at Fulham in the Premier League.

Amorim has criticized Rashford for not showing the attitude of someone “giving the maximum every day”.

“It’s always the same reason – the training, the way I see a footballer should do in life. It’s every day, every detail,” said Amorim when asked why Rashford was not available.

“If things don’t change, I will not change. It’s the same situation for every player, if you do the maximum and right things we can use every player.

“You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace on the bench, but I would put [Manchester United goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital before a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day.”

Sources close to Rashford had been adamant the 27-year-old has no issue with Amorim and was willing to play for the club again.

A potential loan to Barcelona depends on the exit of a couple of players but both Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati are reluctant to leave the Nou Camp.

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given told BBC Match of the Day: “The fans aren’t stupid. They see it’s not good enough from the players and Ruben Amorim is just being honest.

“If you don’t train hard and dedicate your life, you won’t be in the team. You have to show your manager you deserve a place in the team.”

Ex-Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger added: “He wants to set an example but, if he does that, they will never be friends again.

“Amorim is also under pressure, if he is very harsh with the players then his teams have to improve.”

War veterans demand Mnangagwa’s resignation

A faction of Zimbabwe’s war veterans has called for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down, accusing him of constitutional violations, failing to address corruption, and pursuing self-serving political agendas. The demand, made at a press conference in Harare yesterday, signals growing resistance within Zanu-PF against proposals to extend Mnangagwa’s presidency beyond his constitutionally mandated term limits.

Led by Zanu-PF central committee member and war veteran Blessing Runesu Geza, the group expressed discontent over plans by Mnangagwa’s loyalists to amend the Constitution and grant him an additional two years in office after his final term ends in 2028. Mnangagwa, however, has publicly distanced himself from these proposals, stating that he remains committed to constitutional principles.

“It is clear to us that Mnangagwa has failed. He is not fit to run this country, and his time to go is now,” Geza said, flanked by other senior war veterans. “If he refuses to take heed of this advice, we have no option but to ask the people of Zimbabwe to deal with him in line with the Constitution.”

The proposed term extension, branded as the “ED2030 agenda,” is widely seen as an effort to block Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s potential ascendancy to the presidency. Geza alleged that the initiative is being orchestrated by Mnangagwa’s inner circle, with tacit approval from the President himself.

“How do you claim to be a constitutionalist and yet you host people at your farm to further these agendas?” Geza questioned. “We cannot disrespect the voice of 90% of those who voted in favor of term limits. No — we can’t allow it.”

Happison Nenji, a former member of the Zanla High Command, echoed these sentiments, accusing Mnangagwa of undermining the values of the liberation struggle. “This country does not belong to a few individuals or the corrupt. It’s a nation for all, and it must be respected as such,” Nenji said.

The war veterans also criticized Mnangagwa’s administration for appointing underperforming ministers and sidelining those who supported him during Robert Mugabe’s ouster in 2017. They accused the government of neglecting their welfare, leaving many veterans destitute despite their contributions to the liberation struggle.

“The benefits which were supposed to be accorded to us have been neglected, and we’ve been turned into destitutes and beggars,” said Samuel Parirenyatwa, secretary-general of the Zimbabwe National War Veterans Association. Parirenyatwa, however, noted that the association had not formally discussed the ED2030 agenda.

Attempts to seek comments from senior government officials were unsuccessful. Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa referred questions to Douglas Mahiya, the party’s secretary for War Veterans, who was unavailable for comment. Presidential spokesperson George Charamba and Information Minister Jenfan Muswere did not respond to calls from journalists.

The growing discontent among war veterans, who played a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s liberation and Mnangagwa’s rise to power, underscores the deepening divisions within Zanu-PF and the broader political landscape. Whether Mnangagwa will address these grievances remains to be seen.

REBELS SAY THEY HAVE TAKEN DR CONGO CITY AS THOUSANDS FLEE

REBELS SAY THEY HAVE TAKEN DR CONGO CITY AS THOUSANDS FLEE

Rebels of the M23 movement say they have taken control of the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s east.

Residents shared videos of M23 rebels patrolling Goma’s main streets following a lightning advance against the Congolese army on Sunday that saw tens of thousands of people fleeing neighbouring towns.

After hours of gunfire and explosions in the streets of Goma – home to more than a million people – are now quiet, according to local media reports.

It comes hours after DR Congo’s foreign minister accused Rwanda of declaring war by sending its troops over the border to support the M23 rebels. Rwanda says Kinshasa supports militias who want regime change in Kigali.

Kenya has called for a ceasefire, and announced that the presidents of both the DR Congo and Rwanda will attend an emergency regional summit in the next two days.

Kenyan President William Ruto, the current chair of the the East African Community, said it was incumbent on regional leaders to help facilitate a peaceful solution to the conflict.

The M23 group has taken control of vast parts of mineral-rich eastern DR Congo since 2021. In the past few weeks the group has been advancing swiftly on Goma amid intense fighting.

Since the start of 2025 more than 400,000 people have been displaced in north and South Kivu, provinces near the border with Rwanda, according to the UN’s refugee agency.

One displaced woman, Alice Feza, said she is at a loss of what to do next, as she has fled from Kiwanja, Rutshuru, Kibumba and now, Goma.

“People are fleeing everywhere, and we don’t know where to go anymore, because we started fleeing a long time ago,” Ms Feza said, adding: “The war catches us here among the host families, now we have nowhere to go.”

Key roads surrounding Goma are blocked and the city’s airport can no longer be used for evacuation and humanitarian efforts, the UN has said. [BBC News]

Tottenham Players Need Help After Shock Leicester City Defeat – Postecoglou

Under-fire Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou has revealed that the players need help in the transfer window following a shock 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.

Tottenham have struggled with injuries to key players this season, and James Maddison missed out on action in the encounter due to injury.

Richarlison, who scored the only goal for the team, could not complete the encounter as he hobbled off the pitch with a groin injury.

Postecoglou has once again clamoured for new signings to help Tottenham end their poor run in the Premier League.

He said: “I’ve said all along, the players need help and I’ve also said the club is working hard in that area to try to alleviate some of those problems.

“Pape Sarr shouldn’t have played today. He obviously wasn’t fit. There are probably at least two who shouldn’t have been out there. They were just desperate to try to turn our fortunes around. Hopefully over the next 10 days or two weeks we should get some significant players back which I think will help this group a lot. It will give them the boost they need.

Tottenham suffered their 13th league defeat of the season to sit 15th on the log, eight points above the relegation zone.

Postecoglou was asked if he would still be in charge to reap the benefits of some players returning from injury.

He said: “Who knows mate? I’m sure there will be a fair chunk that says no. As a manager sometimes you can feel really isolated.

“I don’t because the players are still giving everything for this club and I’ve got great staff who are doing the same.”

“Certainly something I wanted to try and do when I took on this role is to try to unify the club and create an environment here where we are all focused on the one thing.

“Obviously it hasn’t worked out that way. It’s understandable, the fans are not happy with our current situation. It is a difficult one to navigate because we need them right now, especially at home to create an atmosphere.

“I have been around long enough to know that some will just judge us on where we are at the moment and rightly so in some respects. It’s not good enough. If people want to put context to that they can, if not so be it.”

Tottenham will be back in Premier League action against Brentford Gtech Community Stadium next Sunday.

WHY ARE WE SO PRESIDENTIAL HYPOCHONDRIACS – PRESIDENTS ARE HUMAN BEINGS AS WELL, THEY CAN GET SICK- Chilufya Tayali

EEP President Chilufya Tayali

WHY ARE WE SO PRESIDENTIAL HYPOCHONDRIACS – PRESIDENTS ARE HUMAN BEINGS AS WELL, THEY CAN GET SICK

UPND and President Hichilema used to enjoy jovial rides speculating on the health of Michael Sata and Edgar Lungu. Now, it seems that the PF is on a rollercoaster of whimsical discussions regarding President Hichilema’s health.
In my opinion, this should not be an issue because presidents are just human beings; they can get sick, just like the rest of us. It shouldn’t be a problem.

I understand that the memory of losing two Presidents to illness has cooped us in fear of presidential hypochondria, but we need to move past that and accept human frailty, regardless of our status in society.

I I think we need to be more transparent about our health and other issues as leaders to avoid speculation.
This is why I update you about everything; I share my lows and highs with you. You know when I’m sick, regardless of how embarrassing my health issue may be. This way, you alleviate all the speculation.

In cases of speculation regarding the President’s health, the presidential handlers must address it in a reasonable and not an emotional manner.

I have not been impressed with the wild and emotive responses from those around the President because they actually exacerbated the situation by giving it credence if it is true that the president was enjoying good health.

Why become so emotionally charged and pensive if you know the President is okay? All it takes is for him (the President) to appear in public, and the debate dies—there’s no need for emotional exchanges in the media.

It is worse when the government starts threatening people with arrests, as this appears to be a cover-up and borders on human rights violations that the UN rapporteur has come to investigate.

The UPND ought to realize that, they have a responsibility to Govern while the opposition are there to distract them, so that they fail.
It is like a football striker in the eighteen-yard box with only the goalkeeper to beat; the defender will do anything to distract the player, even calling him names. However, if the striker is petty, he will stop the play to quarrel with the defender and miss the opportunity to score, thereby losing the entire game.

I am not saying, those in Government should not respond, but political prodigy, is inevitable.
On my part I wish President Hichilema nothing but good health, though we don’t agree on many issues politically.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND BLESS OUR COUNTRY

Who is Emmanuel Mwamba and how to deal with him – a response to Linda Banks

Who is Emmanuel Mwamba and how to deal with him – a response to Linda Banks

Author (name withheld)

Do not ignore him. It would be one of the worst mistakes anyone in government can ever make. Here is why. His personality traits are as follows: he is passionate about what he does; he is self-motivated; he loves what he does; he is not motivated by money; he is courageous; he has strong convictions; he takes risks; he knows this country very well; he knows all the players; he knows their strengths and weaknesess from the President down to the last man in the chain of communication; their combined strength, knowledge and expertise means nothing to him; he demolishes them every time; his knowledge and experience soar far above their combined knowledge and experience; the majority of ministers and aides to the President are totally new to government which makes them all the more vulnerable to the more agile, versatile, nimble, experienced and aggressive Mwamba.

When Chiluba had been deserted by everyone that benefitted from his Presidency and was facing the government machinery of his successor, Mwamba appeared on the scene.

Contrary to the advice of all (they wanted Chiluba to ignore Mwanawasa and his accusations), Mwamba took on the Post Newspaper and the government of Mwanawasa. With no single cent from the former President, he would plan responses to the barrage of attacks coming from Bwinjimfumu, the then Head Quarters of the Post Newspaper. Chiluba, who had been skeptical of Mwamba’s strategy, began to gain strength and confidence when, to his surprise, the Post carried his rebuttals. The Mwanawasa government turned their attention onto Mwamba wondering who he was even assigning state agents to follow him every hour.

Instead of ignoring him, Mwanawasa gave Mwamba a job as an administrator in his predecessor’s office. If government thought that could compromise his commitment to Chiluba, they were mistaken.

He continued on his path even when the risks of losing the job they gave him were ever present. The love of what he does – strategic communication – was all that mattered to him. The country saw for itself how, despite being called a thief every other day, Chiluba walked tall every day of his life till his death. Chiluba was a hard sale. He was a hot potato. The accusations against him were serious. Politically, he was beyond redemption.

Contrary to many, the man didn’t have money after he left office. Those that had worked for him because he had money left. Mwamba worked for him purely because he loves what he does. He did not even need to believe in Chiluba. He did not even need to like him. He just loves a good challenge.

This is what the UPND government is up against. And more. Back then, he did not have the education and experience in government that he now has. Now he is more lethal than ever before. So far, the tools with which UPND is engaging Mwamba are blunt. Threats of arrest, name-calling and emotional outbursts are blunt instruments in communication warfare.

Mwamba considers these as cheap and not worth bringing to a fight. He has and will always demolish them. And it’s not a comfort that the government machinery is behind the UPND communication team because he knows how government works – each unit, communication included, is run by designated officers whose weaknesses and strengths are no match for him.

He does not have the resources that the UPND communication team commands and yet officers in government and parastatals are lining up every day to share with him what exactly is going on within government. They love his courage and trust he will share their grievances with the world. Occasionally, he will make mistakes but he regards that as part of the necessary hazards he must face in his chosen field.

What chances does the UPND communication teaM have in the face of a formidable foe like Mwamba? I am not optimistic. I am not optimistic because UPND mistakes the arrogance of power for knowledge and expertise. They speak with a swag and in contemptible notes as they in vain seek to dismiss Mwamba as a nobody. He is somebody because the country and the world pay attention when he speaks, when he writes and when he makes an appearance in public places. This’s the constituency that raises and brings down governments.

It’s extremely difficult to repair the communication machinery of the UPND because it has everything to do with the mindset of its leadership. UPND, like war veterans, think government can only be run by those that fought in the liberation struggle. But the skills common among war veterans is brute force, skills that are incompatible with running a government. Most post-independence parties are floundering across Africa because of this mindset. This might just contribute significantly to how the country perceives UPND and whether they should remain in power or not.

HAKAINDE HICHILEMA IS A DICTATOR RUNNING A BRUTAL REGIME

0

HAKAINDE HICHILEMA IS A DICTATOR RUNNING A BRUTAL REGIME.

Hakainde Hichilema has weaponised selected laws to obliterate political rivals.
The report on human rights practices by the united States department mirrors the status of Zambia s governance under President Hakainde Hichilema.
The government of President Hakainde Hichilema has projected itself a strong adherent to the rule of law and yet Zambians are witnessing an increase in the tendency to detain suspects without charging them with cases like seditious practices, proceeds of crime and armed robbery becoming fashionable.

What has become very clear is that, Hakainde Hichilema has become desperate to retain power at all cost after discovering he has failed to deliver in the last Three and half years of being in power.
Now they are telling Zambians they have over delivered.
The fact is the President eats free food,he does not pay tax,so if you are eating free food and others are paying for the food, you think when you are full everybody is full.

Zambians must brace themselves for the worst repression under the UPND regime.
The UPND government is using institutions of governance to legislate against perceived Political Opponents.
Institutions like Parliament, judiciary, Zambia Police Service and the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

For example it was wrong for the Electoral Commission of Zambia to use bogus interpretation of the law to bar individuals from exercising their democratic right as was the case with kabushi and Kwacha with the trend continuing in Kawambwa,Pambashe and Petauke Constituency.
Soon we shall be in Matero Constituency.

This can only happen when you have a despotic brutal regime led by a full blown dictator.

I think it’s hypocrisy to expect the united states’, great Britain and united nations to keep quiet on human rights atrocities being Committed by this brutal regime.
The level of agitation by President Hakainde Hichilema is worrying to say the least.

Hakainde Hichilema is a dictator through and through we must call him out for who he is running a brutal regime that does not care about the human rights of citizens.
There is dire need for the opposition to unite and strengthen each other in prayers in order to defeat our adversaries who have weaponised the system of exploitation, oppression, marginalisation, humiliation and Social injustice.
What is stunning is that this government of President Hakainde Hichilema is very quick to investigate the so called corruption of the Patriotic Front Party.
They investigate anything that moves and smells like the former regime and yet we have a lot of corruption that has happened under their watch which will never see day light.

The Political insecurity being exhibited by the ruling UPND and their surrogate friends like Nevers Mumba and Enock Kavindele are a danger and a threat to development as local business persons and investors were now afraid to invest in the domestic market.

A number of investigations targated at our local businessmen and Women have been instituted by this government sending employees into the streets.
This intimidation by government was also affecting the performance of civil servants who it had labbled of being used by the previous regime.
This government is setting a very bad precedent by aligning civil servants to political parties.
Now Zambians are afraid to invest in this country for fear of victimisation.

I feel sorry for genuine hard working UPND Members who have been dumped and sidelined at the expense of ba kandile

We have a lot of  hard core UPND members who fought and sacrificed for the Party s Victory in 2021 who are languishing on the Streets.

Hakainde Hichilema doesn’t care about you.

If he can sacrifice Geoffrey Mwamba Popularly known as GBM who  once upon a time was his running mate and Vice President to Prison ,what about a Common UPND Member?

STATE ORDERS REVIEW OF KBN TV ANALYSIS PROGRAM – KBN TV

STATE ORDERS REVIEW OF KBN TV ANALYSIS PROGRAM

By KBN TV Staff Reporter

Last night’s KBN TV Analysis Program has unsettled state actors who have downloaded the feed and are currently combing through the footage to look for anything they can use to implicate the analysts.

This morning, the assignment continued to monitor KBN TV’s DayLight Breakfast Show with Station Manager Innocent Phiri-IP being the target.

State Intelligence sources have told KBN TV that the assignment is to look for something that links the TV station to those discussing the President’s health.

Further, sources say the system is unhappy with the manner in which the Analysis dismissed threats by the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, who warned citizens to stop spreading falsehoods about the health of the Head of State.

The Analysis submitted that the issue didn’t warrant any threats, instead it was a pure communication failure by the Presidential handlers who should have issued a comprehensive statement to stop the rumours.

According to State House sources, the President is scheduled to travel to Tanzania today and later, he is expected in Japan with his last leg being Ethiopia.

On the program last night, the Analysis challenged the Police to tell the nation who broke into KBN TV studios because they know which political mercenaries were sent to carry out a nasty job meant to close down KBN TV on the pretext of a theft.

The program also reminded the UPND of its responsibility to the nation instead of squandering over 3 years fighting perceived political enemies and arresting them.

On the issue of the President being rumoured to be sick, many people have argued that it’s important for State House to dispel such rumours, a challenge that President Hichilema himself gave to State House when commenting about the rumoured sickness of the then Head of State Micheal Sata as captured on the this link https://www.facebook.com/share/v/18CvCd4omw/

Meanwhile, Police sources have confirmed that former Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba is due for an arrest on his return for being one of those singled out to be in the forefront questioning the whereabouts of the Head of State.

If you don’t change government, Lungu will die, M’membe tells Petauke residents

If you don’t change government, Lungu will die, M’membe tells Petauke residents

SOCIALIST Party leader Fred M’membe has told Zambians that if they don’t change government next year then former President Edgar Lungu will die of depression.

Speaking while on his campaign trail in Petauke, Dr M’membe said if the UPND administration stays in power next year, it will mean more property grabbing for Lungu and his family which he claimed was tantamount to killing him.

“If you are not careful in changing government next year, you will bury ECL. They want to kill him by grabbing his property so that he dies of depression. ECL is trying so hard to defend himself but he won’t manage alone,” he said.

Despite the Constitutional Court’s ruling on Lungu’s eligibility, the Socialist Party leader accused President Hakainde Hichilema of destroying PF by barring the former president from contesting future elections.

“ECL has been barred from standing until his death. He tried to come up with UKA, it couldn’t stand. Now he is trying to come up with Tonse Alliance but even that it may not go anywhere. Most of these PF officials may die in prison if you won’t change government. I also have relatives in prison such as Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM), even Stephen Kampyongo is my young brother and his wife is in prison today,” he stated.

Dr M’membe also claimed that if government does not change next year, then even former Petauke Central Lawmaker and fugitive, Emmanuel Jay Banda will come back to Zambia as a corpse turned into a skeleton.

“This Jay Jay, if we don’t change this government this coming year Jay Jay will come as a corpse and you will only bury him,” he claimed.

The opposition leader also prophesied that even other PF members will be imprisoned and left to die while incarcerated.

“Nga tamuposeleko amano nokuchinja ubuteko umwaka uuleisa imwe mwebakwata babululu benu abali mu PF bamo bakaya fwila muchifungo. (If you don’t pay attention to changing government next year, even your relatives in PF will die in prison).”

NEW EDUCATION CURRICULUM NOT POLITICAL – KAMOKO

NEW EDUCATION CURRICULUM NOT POLITICAL – KAMOKO

MINISTRY of Education Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Joel Kamoko says the implementation of the new School curriculum is not politically motivated as it is aimed at transforming the country’s education system into one that will bridge the gap between the formal and informal labour sectors.

Mr. Kamoko stated that the new curriculum is designed to produce learners that are able to adapt to new global trends and equip them with skills that will enable them to become self-sustainable in future.

He added that the current global trends on the employment market calls for government to transform the country’s education system to make it relevant to society.

Mr. Kamoko noted that the new curriculum will also fill up the gap between theory and practical which will in turn enable children to thrive in both the formal and informal labour sectors.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Kamoko was speaking when he addressed teachers during the second cohort of Trainers held to induct the trainers on the new curriculum at Chongwe Secondary School.

He said the curriculum also responds to government’s current policies and aspirations in the education sector.

The permanent secretary urged teachers in the district to work with parents and everyone in communities to ensure that the curriculum is successfully implemented in the district.

“Information will eventually sit with the parents and everyone in the local communities as we train everyone along the way if we work with them,” Mr. Kamoko said.

Mr. Kamoko commended Zonal teachers in the area for responding positively towards the introduction of the new School curriculum by government urging them to convey the knowledge that they will acquire to other teachers.

Meanwhile, Chongwe District Education Board Secretary, Joseph Chanda stated that his office was pleased with the positive response towards the new curriculum from the teaching fraternity and various stakeholders in the district.

Mr. Chanda indicated that the response is an indication that a lot of stakeholders are ready to embrace the new curriculum.

He noted that school teams will be formed after the training and the teams will be expected to engage civic and traditional leadership in communities to sensitise them on the new curriculum.

Mr. Chanda also disclosed that a lot of residents in local communities in Chongwe are curious about the curriculum especially the early childhood component as there is no information about the development.

“People in the community are asking a lot of questions about the new curriculum especially about early childhood and this is mostly because they do not have any information about it,” Mr. Chanda said.

He assured the permanent secretary that the teams will soon visit communities in the district to sensitise about the curriculum framework and it’s benefits when adopted by children at an early age.

DRC cuts diplomatic ties with Rwanda over violence, UN calls emergency meet

0

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is severing diplomatic ties with Rwanda and the United Nations Security Council has called an emergency meeting as the fighting between the Congolese army and the M23 armed group intensifies.

The three-year-old M23 rebellion in DRC’s mineral-rich east has intensified this month, with the rebels seizing control of more territory, prompting the UN to warn of the risk of a broader regional war.

The Congolese troops and the peacekeepers are trying to stop an M23 advance on the eastern city of Goma, the capital of North Kivu province.

M23, or the March 23 Movement, is an armed group that broke away from the DRC army more than 10 years ago. Since its resurgence in 2022, the group has continued to gain ground in the eastern DRC.

The DRC and the UN accused Rwanda of supporting M23 with troops and weapons. Rwanda denies the charge.

At least nine peacekeepers, including two from the UN’s peacekeeping force MONUSCO, have been killed in the fighting in the eastern DRC, according to an Al Jazeera tally.

A UN official, speaking to The Associated Press news agency, confirmed the death of two UN soldiers. The peacekeepers were killed on Friday, the UN official told the agency on condition of anonymity.

Congolese army spokesman General Sylvain Ekenge told journalists DRC forces were working to “push back the enemy”. “Rwanda is determined to seize the city of Goma,” he said.

The United States, the United Kingdom and France have called on their citizens to leave Goma while airports and borders are still open.

UN to relocate nonessential staff

M23 has made significant territorial gains in recent weeks, encircling Goma, home to about two million people and a regional hub for security and humanitarian efforts.

The escalation in fighting prompted an emergency UNSC meeting, originally set for Monday, to be moved up to Sunday.

The UN also said it would temporarily relocate nonessential staff, such as administrative staff, from Goma.

“Essential personnel remain on the ground, sustaining critical operations such as food distribution, medical assistance, shelter, and protection for vulnerable communities,” the UN said.

M23 is one of about 100 armed groups that have been vying for a foothold in mineral-rich eastern DRC, along the border with Rwanda, in a decades-long conflict that has created one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.

Since 1998, approximately six million people have been killed while roughly seven million have been displaced internally.

More than 237,000 people have been displaced by the fighting in the eastern DRC since the beginning of this year, the UN’s refugee agency said in a report on Monday.

“Former Teacher Finds Love on Dating App… Only to Realize It’s His Former Pupil!”

“Former Teacher Finds Love on Dating App… Only to Realize It’s His Former Pupil!”

A former teacher in Lusaka Chelstone area learned the hard way that love can be a tricky syllabus to master! What started as a sweet online romance ended in drama, betrayal, and one very awkward reunion.

The young man, who was once the youngest teacher at a private school in Chelstone, was cautious about mingling too much with his grade seven pupils. “I kept my distance because I feared they’d lose respect for me,” he said. Little did he know, one of his former pupils would reappear years later to give him the life lesson of a lifetime.

Five years after leaving the school, he stumbled upon a stunning young lady on a dating app and thought, “This is the one!” They hit it off, met in person, and sparks flew—at least for him. But then came the bombshell.

“Sir, you were my teacher in Grade 7!” she announced casually during a conversation. Shocked, the former teacher’s memory slowly returned, but by that point, he was already head over heels. “I couldn’t believe it; she was so beautiful now. But in my heart, I told myself, ‘Love knows no boundaries,’ and I decided to keep dating her,” he explained.

However, things quickly took a Zambian twist. The once-sweet lady turned out to be the queen of sugar daddies, full-time lies, and late-night rendezvous. Her younger sister even exposed her, revealing that she often used him as a cover for her escapades. “She would tell her family she was meeting me, meanwhile she was out collecting transport money from sponsors!” the teacher recounted, shaking his head.

When the truth became too much, he ended the relationship. But in true Zambian fashion, the drama didn’t stop there. Months later, she called him, claiming she’d been kicked out of her parents’ house in ZAF twin palm 🌴 for reasons she refused to disclose. She showed up at his doorstep with a bag of clothes, begging for two weeks of accommodation.

“What was I supposed to do?” he asked. “I let her stay… but those two weeks turned into two months!”

The real shocker came when she finally confessed that she was pregnant, and the father of the child had abandoned her. Out of pity, he let her stay in his two-roomed house, even sharing the same bed, though he maintained that nothing happened between them. “We still weren’t intimate! I was just a good man trying to help,” he insisted.

But as the weeks dragged on, the relationship soured. “Ba Zambia, this was not love—it was a punishment!” he joked. Eventually, he ended things for good, saying, “She came as a storm but left as a lesson.”

Now single and wiser, the former teacher has a message for all Zambians: “They are good men out here, but please, don’t take advantage of us. Respect yourselves, and respect the men who genuinely care for you.”

And as for his next chapter? “This time, I’m sticking to women I’ve never taught. Grade 7 memories are too much!”

Moral of the story? Sometimes love isn’t about finding ‘The One’—it’s about avoiding the wrong ones.

Kanye West’s daughter North West is spitting some bars on FKA twigs‘ new song “Childlike Things,” and she’s doing it in Japanese.

The track, released on Friday (January 24), appears on FKA’s new album EUSEXUA.

Per Genius, North’s verse translates as: “Hello/ My name is North-chan/ From California to Tokyo/ Jesus, the King/ Praise the Lord/ Jesus is the one and only true God (You need to know).”

Check the song out below.

Last year, North announced that she was planning her own debut album, with a title inspired by her dad’s own breakthrough project.

At a Vultures 2 listening event in Phoenix last March, North stood side by side with her father at the center of the stage as she made the announcement.

“I’ve been working on an album and it is called Elementary School Dropout,” the 10-year-old said to a roar from the crowd.

The name is, of course, a nod to Kanye’s 2004 landmark debut The College Dropout.

The reveal came shortly after North made her music debut on her father and Ty Dolla $ign’s collaborative project Vultures 1, featuring prominently on “Talking.”

The track peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her one of the youngest ever artists to appear on the chart.

On the song, North raps: “I love it here/ We’re gonna take over another year/ It’s your bestie, Miss, Miss Westie/ Don’t try to test me/ It’s gonna get messy/ Just, just bless me, bless me/ It’s your bestie, Miss, Miss Westie.”

North wasn’t the only West child at the listening event. Kanye West also brought out his two youngest children, Psalm and Chicago, while their older sister performed “Talking.”

At the listening party, Ye and Ty Dolla $ign played eight songs from the then-forthcoming Vultures 2, including collaborations with Future, Playboi Carti, Lil Durk, Project Pat, Don Toliver and 070 Shake. North eventually appeared on Vultures 2, rapping — in Japanese — on “Bomb.”

Several days after that listening event, North discussed her debut project in an interview.

The young rising star had a brief on-camera chat with social media figure and fellow child star Jazzy on the first night of Rolling Loud California.

After thanking Kim Kardashian for setting up the interview, the reporter and actress asked her guest about the release of Elementary School Dropout, to which North replied: “It’s gonna be great.”

UN Suspends Food Programme In DRC Over Safety Concerns Amid Crisis

The United Nations (UN) has suspended its World Food Programme (WFP) operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) due to security concerns as the ongoing conflict in the country’s volatile east worsens.

On Friday, clashes erupted in Sake, a town about 20 kilometers from Goma, between the Congolese army and the M23 rebel group, a military source told AFP.

The situation deteriorated following failed peace talks, with M23 fighters allegedly backed by Rwandan forces gaining more territory in recent weeks.

The crisis has created a humanitarian crisis and threatens Goma, a city of about two million residents.

In a statement released on Sunday, WFP Executive Director, Cincy Mccain, said about 800,000 persons have been affected by the crisis.

“Escalating violence in eastern DRC has forced WFP to temporarily pause critical emergency operations, leaving 800k people without lifesaving assistance. Our team’s safety is paramount,” She in a post on X.

“We call for peace, protection of humanitarian workers & safe access to those in need of aid,” Mccain added.

In another statement on Sunday, Peter Musoko, WFP Representative and Country Director, DRC, in an X post, said the lack of access has affected its programme in the region.

Musoko called on parties to “cease hostilities” and promised that its humanitarian activities will resume when things turn for the better.

The statement read, “WFP strongly condemns the escalation of violence in the eastern DR Congo that is endangering civilian populations.

“We’re calling for immediate & unimpeded access to reach those most in need. WFP is committed to stay in the region, with critical staff remaining on the ground.

“We call on all parties to the conflict to immediately cease hostilities and uphold obligations under International Humanitarian Law, including the protection and safety of humanitarian workers.

“Due to the escalation in violence, WFP has been compelled to temporarily pause our operations in the North Kivu – where 800,000 people rely on vital food and nutrition assistance – until it is safe for communities and our staff.

“WFP is focused on supporting the 7.1 million most vulnerable women, men, and children in #DRCongo who depend on us for life-saving and life-changing support. We aim to resume as soon as circumstances allow. WFP operations in the rest of DRC continue uninterrupted,” the statement stated.

Medical teams from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said it treated over 70 wounded individuals in Goma’s hospitals following clashes in the last few days.

As violence escalates, thousands of civilians have fled to Goma’s city center on foot in search of safety.

The M23 rebel group, known as the March 23 Movement, previously occupied Goma in 2012 before being driven out by the Congolese army with support from MONUSCO and international diplomatic pressure on Rwanda.

However, recent diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict have made little progress.

A planned December meeting between Congolese President, Félix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, aimed at restoring peace through an Angola-led process, was canceled due to unresolved disagreements.

Despite multiple ceasefires being declared over the years, none have held for long. Turkey, which has been expanding its diplomatic influence across Africa, recently offered to mediate talks between the DRC and Rwanda.

Tupac’s Ex Girlfriend Claims Suge Knight Was Intimate With Diddy’s Baby Mama

Tupac’s ex girlfriend Desiree Smith recently joined The Art Of Dialogue for another sit-down interview, and some bombshell allegations about the Death Row and Bad Boy war didn’t take long to emerge. First off, she claimed that Suge Knight slept with one of Diddy’s baby mamas, Misa Hylton, who gave birth to Justin Combs. Then, Smith addressed claims that ‘Pac slept with Biggie’s partner Faith Evans and doubled down by claiming that he also slept with Mary J. Blige, who is one of Hylton’s best friends. While this is just speculative rumor and by no means a confirmation of anything, it still adds a lot of alleged context and strife to the turbulent mid-’90s period that sadly took the lives of two of the best MCs to ever do it.

Of course, this is not the only time that Desiree Smith has spoken about her relationship with Tupac and the dynamics between Suge Knight, Diddy, and others. For example, a couple of years ago, she claimed that Pac knew how he sold his soul to the devil in his contract with Suge.

Elsewhere, one of the other subjects of Desiree Smith’s story, Misa Hylton, actually caught some heat recently for her reflections on how Diddy got his career off the ground. “Please do not come here with any negativity, instead try praying for all involved,” she shared on social media. “You cannot erase history and cultural impact. This is also OUR legacy. EVERY single person whose blood, sweat, tears, talent and business acumen went into this movement. WERE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED WERE YOU NOT INSPIRED??!” This adds to other comments on the current Sean Combs legal scandal from folks like Suge Knight, who questioned his ties to the FBI a few months ago.

“He’s not a dummy, so he’s smart enough to work his magic,” Suge Knight alleged. “On top of that, he’s been involved with the FBI for most of his career. He got powerful people. One of his partners who started his company with drug money, President Obama got him out of prison! So it’s not like he don’t have no moves. I don’t think nobody should just count him out. I don’t think he’s gonna lay down and curl in the corner and die. He’s probably going through a lot of withdrawals with the drugs [in jail].”
