“Innocence” – Portable Regains Freedom, Debuts New Look After Prison Stint

“Innocence” – Portable Regains Freedom, Debuts New Look After Prison Stint

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has regained his freedom following his recent remand in prison over a legal battle with his baby mama, Ashabi Simple.

A Hero’s Welcome

Following his release, the “Zazu” crooner was met with celebration in his neighborhood. In a video circulating online, fans and neighbors were seen welcoming him back, with some crowning him with a new nickname, “Innocence.” His supporters claimed the singer was a victim of lies, which they believe led to his detention.

New Look, Back on Stage

Portable wasted no time returning to his lifestyle. He debuted a fresh look, having cut his hair, giving off what fans described as a “throwback vibe.” He was also spotted at an event almost immediately, taking the microphone from another artist to perform, much to the delight of the crowd.

The Backstory

The singer’s legal troubles began after a public altercation with Ashabi Simple led to police involvement and subsequent court charges. While Ashabi previously explained that she involved the authorities because Portable assaulted her sibling and seized her phone, fans are already predicting that the singer will release a track narrating his side of the story.

Dr Nevers Mumba has asked Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba to tell Zambians how Chiluba died, and why he got rewarded by Sata after that death

UNMASKING EMMANUEL MWAMBA – PART 1 OF THE REBUTTAL

Last night, I shared on this platform an article written by Emmanuel Mwamba, in which he made a series of claims about me. I have decided to respond in a structured manner, breaking my response into three parts for ease of reading and clarity.

The first part of this rebuttal will focus on the man behind the accusations: Emmanuel Mwamba himself. It is important that the audience understands the character of the individual making these allegations before we address the claims in detail.

EMMANUEL MWAMBA VERIFIED

Emmanuel Mwamba is a man who seeks the spotlight and yet avoids the truth. He lies even when there is no need for him to lie, and writes loudly about principle, and yet his own life tells a very different story.

Time and again, he has abandoned those who trusted him, people who gave him opportunities to serve and people that stood by him when the long arm of the law came calling.

His social media posts have been condemned by many neutral Zambians and also, officially described by the Zambia Police Service as false, bordering on espionage, misleading, and dangerous. Emmanuel Mwamba seems to have  perfected the use of the Media, to peddle lies, confusion, public panic, and division to serve himself, and apparently, those who are willing to support and benefit from his mass media  manipulation techniques.

While Emmanuel Mwamba has the audacity to attack others here, he himself currently lives abroad in self-imposed exile in the United States of America, funded by sources that remain  unknown, and that demand serious public scrutiny, leaving behind a trail of active court cases, multiple bench warrants, and betrayed legal sureties; people who trustingly, put up their names and reputations on the line for him, only to be abandoned and exposed.

If Emmanuel could betray the legacy of a giant like Frederick Chiluba and cross over to Michael Sata’s Patriotic Front, then what about mere legal surities? we can safely conclude that trust clearly holds very little meaning in his world.

Emmanuel spreads damaging claims about citizens and institutions without verification. Half-truths are his fuel; gossip is his weapon; facts and principle are rarely considered. He has repeatedly peddled grotesque fabrications, including claims that President Hichilema is gravely ill or dead—a strikingly low act for someone who presents himself as a principled, upright politician.

He shamelessly spread misinformation about Bill 7, falsely alleging that the President intended to extend his term from five to seven years or even rule for life. As each lie was exposed, he moved on to the next without, a single word of apology. What a man.

And then there are the questions about Emmanuel Mwamba’s integrity that many Zambians have over the years asked and   demand scrutiny over but to no avail.  For instance, What precisely was his role in the events surrounding, and leading up to, the untimely death of our dear Former President Frederick Chiluba, and why has he remained conspicuously absent from any official account or investigation?

On what legal or ethical basis did he soon afterwards receive sudden rewards and appointments under Michael Sata’s Patriotic Front, when we all know the relations that existed between Sata and FTJ just before the 2011 elections? Whose  interest was Emmanuel genuinely serving all along and in whose interest were these sudden gains offered to him?

If these rewards were intended as recognition for President Chiluba’s role in expanding the PF from one MP to 42 MPs when he supported the party in 2006, then why was this appreciation not extended to the Chiluba family, whose inheritance and legacy issues remain unfairly unresolved to this day? Can someone explain how and why the Chiluba children were abandoned and publicly shamed, some caught in needless scandals, while their father’s aide crossed over to the PF and received multiple rewards?

Can Emmanuel Mwamba provide verifiable evidence to justify his movements, his statements, and his allegiances over the years, like he demands of others—or will these, in his case, continue to remain unresolved questions in the minds of Zambians?

This concludes Part 1 of my rebuttal. In Part 2, I will respond to Emmanuel Mwamba’s specific claims and demonstrate how his allegations fail under scrutiny

UPND HEADED FOR DEFEAT IN AUGUST – KATUTA

UPND HEADED FOR DEFEAT IN AUGUST – KATUTA

THE UPND is on a collision course with defeat in the 2026 general elections, not because of opposition political parties, but because of disillusioned Zambians, who are so frustrated and disenchanted that they can no longer wait to have the Hakainde Hichilema administration out of government, Given Katuta has said.

Ms Katuta is arguing that traditional hand-out politics are no longer working as was demonstrated by the “Don’t Kubeba” message echoed by voters in Chawama’s recent parliamentary by-election.

Commenting on the outcome of the by-election, Ms Katuta said the results were a reflection of a clear rejection of what she described as traditional hand-out politics, noting that the “Don’t Kubeba” (don’t accept handouts) message had resonated strongly with voters.

“This was not a contest between UPND and opposition parties, it was a contest between UPND and the people of Chawama,” Ms Katuta said. “And the people of Chawama are Zambians. This result should be taken as a serious warning ahead of August 2026.”

She argued that even the ruling party’s access to state machinery did not translate into victory, describing the margin of defeat as politically significant.

“In politics, even one vote is enough to defeat your opponent. When you lose by more than 200 votes that is a clear signal. This was a clean defeat,” she said.

“Normally, the ruling party has the advantage, but this result shows something has shifted.”

Ms Katuta also claimed that arresting or silencing opposition figures would not reverse public dissatisfaction.

“You can arrest all opposition leaders, but your biggest opposition is the people. Unless you arrest all Zambians and leave only your supporters, you will still lose,” Ms Katuta told the UPND.

She said celebrations following the Chawama results in areas such as Lusaka, Mkushi and Lundazi underscored the national significance voters attached to the by-election.

“People treated this like a general election because they wanted to send a message not to politicians, but about how they feel as citizens,” Ms Katuta said.

In the Chawama parliamentary by-election, the Forum for Democracy and Development candidate Bright Nundwe emerged victorious after polling 8, 085 votes. His closest challenger, Morgan Muunda of the ruling UPND, garnered 6, 542 votes. The contest attracted a total of 10 candidates.

Crying Persecution While Breaking the Law No Longer Works

⬆️ EDITORIAL |  Crying Persecution While Breaking the Law No Longer Works

The reaction within the Patriotic Front following the arrest of Miles Sampa has been predictable. The language of persecution has returned. The reflex to cry foul has been activated. But this moment deserves something more honest than emotional mobilisation.

The PF has not been weakened by arrests or institutions. It has been weakened by its refusal to evolve.

For years, the party’s political survival rested on propaganda, ethnic signalling, confrontation, and the calculated erosion of public trust in institutions. Those tactics thrived in an environment where rules were selectively enforced and disorder was politically useful. That environment no longer exists.

Zambia’s political terrain has shifted. The Electoral Commission of Zambia, the courts, and law enforcement agencies are now operating within a tighter legal framework. The space for reckless claims, incitement, and institutional intimidation has narrowed. What once passed as political mobilisation is now subject to scrutiny and consequence.

Miles Sampa understands this reality. He was asked to apologise by the ECZ. He did. He acknowledged that his claim about a fake polling station was incorrect. That should have been the end of the matter politically. But accountability does not stop at apology when the law has been invoked. Once a formal complaint is lodged, the process moves beyond personalities and party comfort zones.

The PF base insisting that this is persecution is avoiding a harder truth. Many of its leading figures are entangled in legal trouble not because they are opposition, but because they remained anchored in an old political culture that treated laws as obstacles rather than boundaries. Politics has changed. Behaviour has not.

This is not unique to Sampa. The shrinking PF circle is a result of attrition caused by adjustment failure. A party that once rewarded rule-breaking now finds itself exposed in a rules-based system. Cadres who were energised by confrontation are struggling to function in a space that demands discipline, evidence, and restraint.

The United Party for National Development did not outlaw PF politics. Institutions did. Laws did. A society tired of chaos did.

If Zambia is to move forward, opposition politics must be redefined. Dissent must be grounded in policy. Criticism must be supported by fact. Mobilisation must respect institutions. Anything else will continue to collapse under legal pressure, no matter how loudly persecution is claimed.

The Miles Sampa episode is not the criminalisation of opposition. It is a test case for political maturity.

Zambia is outgrowing politics built on disorder. Parties that refuse to grow with it will keep mistaking accountability for victimhood.

Zambia–Uganda Diplomacy Sparks Opposition Pushback

⬆️ BRIEFING | Zambia–Uganda Diplomacy Sparks Opposition Pushback

President Hakainde Hichilema has congratulated Uganda’s President-Elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following his re-election, reaffirming Zambia’s commitment to bilateral relations, regional peace, and cooperation through mechanisms such as the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region. The message was released by State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka.

The congratulatory note has, however, drawn sharp reactions from sections of the Zambian opposition. Critics argue that Museveni’s re-election remains clouded by allegations of electoral malpractice, including opposition claims of voter suppression, internet shutdowns, and intimidation during the Ugandan polls.

They contend that Zambia’s endorsement risks appearing indifferent to democratic concerns in the region.

Opposition figures say the timing and tone of the message undermine Zambia’s stated commitment to democratic norms, particularly at a moment when Ugandan opposition leaders are contesting the credibility of the outcome.

Some have called for a more cautious diplomatic posture that balances state-to-state relations with public concern over electoral integrity.

Government officials, meanwhile, frame the statement as standard diplomatic protocol.

They argue that engagement, not isolation, is the preferred route for advancing stability and cooperation in the Great Lakes region, stressing that Zambia’s foreign policy prioritises dialogue and regional security.

Falsehoods can lead to loss of lives if not well handled.  Imagine if people rose and burnt down the ECZ structure and became uncontrollable  that they became violent by attacking ECZ officials and the Zambia Police reacted?

How many lives would we have lost just because of the careless of one person by the name of Kilometer Sampa?

Kilometer Sampa must account and prove to his allegations.  This will help us as get to August Elections were people will be communicating facts.

We shouldn’t hide behind a keyboard to perpetrate falsehoods.

LAWYER BACKS MILITARY ROLE IN CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL MINERS

LAWYER BACKS MILITARY ROLE IN CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL MINERS

The Zambia Army Commander’s recent statement that soldiers would “exterminate” illegal miners has sparked intense public debate, with supporters and critics divided over the military’s role in addressing the problem.

In a reaction, prominent lawyer and political analyst Dickson Jere said the remarks had been “received with mixed feelings,” noting that opponents believed illegal mining should be handled by the Zambia Police while some were defending the “right of unemployed youths to earn a living.”

However, Mr. Jere argued that supporters viewed the matter from a broader national security perspective.

He warned that illegal mining had the potential to destabilise the country, explaining that “many African conflicts began with the scramble for natural resources.”

He cited the Democratic Republic of Congo as an example where illegal miners later “developed into armed militias that took over mining areas.”

Mr. Jere further revealed that during the gold rush in Kasempa, he observed “large numbers of foreign nationals” from countries such as Sudan and Congo involved in illegal mining, adding that many Zambians lacked the technical knowledge required for gold extraction.

He questioned how long the activity had continued “despite police and immigration deployments.”

Referring to past experiences, Mr. Jere recalled that government had previously deployed the Zambia National Service during the illegal Mukula trade after police efforts failed.

He also noted that the Army had intervened in land disputes to maintain peace.

The analyst said illegal mining posed safety risks, as miners worked “without any safety measures,” and added that smuggled gold deprived the country of taxes.

He supported the Army’s operation as a “pre-emptive measure,” stressing that it should be conducted with the Ministry of Mines to regularise small-scale mining and protect national security.

THE LITUNGA HAS AUTHORITY OVER ALL CHIEFS IN BAROTSELAND/WESTERN  PROVINCE – HIGH COURT RULES

THE LITUNGA HAS AUTHORITY OVER ALL CHIEFS IN BAROTSELAND/WESTERN PROVINCE – HIGH COURT RULES
Pll

The High Court in Lusaka has reaffirmed that only the Litunga, King of Barotseland, holds the constitutional and customary authority to install and dethrone all chiefs in Western Province, regardless of tribe.

This followed a case in which Mr. Innocent Munyikwa Lushato, who had claimed to be the rightful leader of Mwanatete in Luampa, challenged the installation of Chieftainess Josephine Kamwila Limata by the Barotse Royal Establishment and His Majesty the Litunga.

After hearing witnesses from both sides, the court ruled that:
The selection of a chief is the preserve of the royal family according to custom and tradition.
Once selected, installation must be done by the Litunga for the individual to exercise authority as chief.

No other chief or institution has power to appoint or impose a chief outside their jurisdiction.
The plaintiff failed to prove his claims, while evidence confirmed that Josephine Kamwila Limata comes from the legitimate Mwanatete lineage and was properly installed.

The court dismissed all claims with costs and upheld earlier Constitutional Court rulings confirming the Litunga’s supreme traditional authority in Barotseland.

✅Key Lesson from the Judgment
No person can be recognized as chief in Western Province without installation by the Litunga, and the Litunga retains the power to discipline or dethrone any subordinate chief within his jurisdiction.

FORMER BURKINA LEADER AND ALLEGED COUP PLOTTER ARRESTED IN TOGO AND EXPELLED

FORMER BURKINA LEADER AND ALLEGED COUP PLOTTER ARRESTED IN TOGO AND EXPELLED

BURKINA Faso’s former transitional president and the alleged mastermind behind a number coup plots has been arrested in Togo and expelled, local sources say.

Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba ousted Burkinabe President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré in a 2022 coup. But eight months later, Damiba was himself overthrown by the military leader Ibrahim Traoré, who is still in power.

Reports say Damiba was arrested in Lomé last week and tried for the attempted destabilisation of Burkina Faso. He was then taken to the airport, although his destination hasn’t been confirmed.

Since going into exile in Togo, Damiba has been accused of numerous coup and assassination plots.

Ouagadougou says authorities foiled an attempted assassination of Traoré planned for 3 January.

A number of alleged conspirators have appeared on state TV, claiming to have acted on orders from Damiba.

Security officials say Damiba had planned a number of targeted assassinations of civilian and military figures, starting with Traoré.

PF LEADERS URGED TO RESOLVE INTERNAL WRANGLES AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

PF LEADERS URGED TO RESOLVE INTERNAL WRANGLES AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

By Constance Shilengwe

FORMER Mikomfwa Ward Councillor, Victor Bowa, has appealed to the Patriotic Front (PF) top leadership to restore unity within the party as Zambia prepares for the 2026 general elections.

Speaking to RoanFM, Mr. Bowa expressed concern that ongoing disagreements at the party’s top echelons have disrupted its direction, leaving the voice of the opposition effectively muted in the district.

He urged PF leaders to find a lasting solution to the internal disputes rather than proceeding with Robert Chabinga, who has reportedly endorsed the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Despite the wrangles at the top, Mr. Bowa noted that the PF structures at the grassroots level remain intact, much like they were in 2021. He stressed the importance of addressing leadership disputes promptly to ensure the party is well-positioned to contest the upcoming elections effectively.

UGANDAN OPPOSITION LEADER KIZZA BESIGYE IN CRITICAL HEALTH WHILE JAILED

UGANDAN OPPOSITION LEADER KIZZA BESIGYE IN CRITICAL HEALTH WHILE JAILED

THE health of jailed Ugandan opposition figure Kizza Besigye is failing, his party said on Tuesday, after he was driven overnight to a medical facility in the capital of Kampala.

Besigye’s health “has reached a critical and deteriorating state,” the People’s Front for Freedom said in a statement that also demanded unrestricted access to Besigye by his personal doctors and family.

Besigye, a veteran politician who was Uganda’s most prominent opposition figure before the rise of Bobi Wine, is being detained in a maximum-security jail in Kampala. He is set to be tried over treason charges he says are politically motivated.

“It is a tragedy that a man who has dedicated his life to the health and freedom of others is being denied his own right to medical dignity,” said the statement by the People’s Front for Freedom. “We hold the regime and the prison authorities fully accountable for his well-being.”

Frank Baine, a spokesman for Uganda’s prison system, denied that Besigye was in failing health. “It was a general checkup,” he said of Besigye’s overnight trip to see a doctor. “This morning he was doing his exercises.”

Besigye last contested the presidency in 2016. He said afterwards that elections were a waste of time in a country with an authoritarian leader whose authority depends on the armed forces.

President Yoweri Museveni, who has held power since 1986, was on Saturday declared the winner of last week’s presidential election. Museveni took 71.6% of the vote while his closest challenger, Wine, took 24.7% of the vote, according to official results that Wine rejected as fake.

The election was marred by a days-long internet shutdown and the failure of biometric voter identification machines, long demanded by pro-democracy activists to curb voting offenses such as ballot stuffing.

Museveni, 81, has stayed in power over the years by rewriting the rules. The last legal obstacles to his rule term limits and age restrictions have been removed from the constitution, and some of his possible rivals have been jailed or sidelined.

Besigye, a physician who retired from Uganda’s military at the rank of colonel, is a former president of the Forum for Democratic Change party, for many years Uganda’s most prominent opposition group. He has long been a fierce critic of Museveni, for whom he once served as a military assistant and personal doctor.

Besigye has been detained since November 2024 over allegations he plotted to overthrow the government.

Museveni’s son, army chief Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has accused Besigye of plotting to kill his father, and once said the opposition figure should be hanged. Kainerugaba has repeatedly asserted his wish to succeed his father in the presidency.

Museveni has said Besigye must answer for “the very serious offenses he is alleged to have been planning,” and called for “a quick trial so that facts come out.”

Besigye’s followers say the charges are calculated to remove him from political contestation over Uganda’s future after Museveni.

Many Ugandans expect an unpredictable political transition from Museveni, who has no obvious successor within the ranks of the ruling National Resistance Movement party.

HE WANTED TO BAN SWAHILI FOR FRENCH — UGANDANS GAVE HIM 0.29%! THIS IS WHY WE MUST CHOOSE LEADERS WISELY

Mubarak Munyagwa, presidential candidate for Uganda’s Common Man’s Party, campaigned on BANNING Swahili and replacing it with French. His reason? “French has wider coverage in neighboring countries.”

The result? 0.29% of the vote. Just 31,666 votes. Second to last place.

Let this be a lesson to Africa: These are the kind of leaders we CANNOT afford. People ready to hand us back to colonial masters, erase our own languages, and prioritize European interests over African unity.

Swahili is a PAN-AFRICAN language spoken across East and Central Africa — a symbol of our shared identity and independence. And this man wanted to replace it with the language of our colonizers? For what?

To please France?
Thank God Ugandans saw through it. This is mental colonization in action — and voters rejected it overwhelmingly.

We must be vigilant about who we allow to lead us. Not everyone with a campaign deserves power. Some will sell our heritage for foreign approval without blinking.

Uganda spoke loud and clear: We are NOT going back!

The legendary coach in African football has said: “Football is life; it’s not Gianni Infantino, proud to be in Trump’s Oval Office or at Mar-a-Lago, supporting a president who is damaging Africa by shutting down all the NGOs.

That’s the real tragedy of this continent. I wonder if we shouldn’t call for a boycott of the 2026 World Cup (in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, editor’s note), given Donald Trump’s attitude toward Africa, with the FIFA president boasting about being at his side.

The top leaders in football don’t talk about football anymore—only about money. I attended the CAF press conference, tried several times to speak, but was never handed a microphone because everyone knew I wouldn’t be complacent. My fight on this issue isn’t over.”

IT’S UNUSUAL FOR HH TO TAKE A LONG HOLIDAY SILENTLY – KAMPYONGO

IT’S UNUSUAL FOR HH TO TAKE A LONG HOLIDAY SILENTLY – KAMPYONGO

FORMER Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo says it is unusual for President Hakainde Hichilema to take a long holiday silently.

Kampyongo has wondered why government did not announce that President Hichilema would be taking a working holiday.

On Saturday, Cornelius Mweetwa said the Head of State was on a long working holiday to rest as he was rejuvenating himself for a hectic year.

Commenting on this in an interview, Monday, Kampyongo said to avoid speculations, it was important for government to be transparent.

“The challenge that the government has is self-inflicted and this is a result of poor communication strategy and lack of transparency in the communication that is coming from government. Every Zambian knows that the President is a human being like any other human being who can fall sick, who also needs rest, everything that Zambians go through so what is important is for government to be sincere and transparent, that’s a public office, he is not a private individual anymore. So, anything that happens to the President is of public interest so the challenge they have is how they can issue one statement after the other and respond to citizens using different versions. So, what is key is that if the President has taken a working holiday, it’s always announced, the President is taking a working holiday on such a date up to such a date, so that people don’t speculate. People are speculating because there is no clarity, there is no transparency coming from the government,” he said.

“Similarly, if the President is not feeling well, all the government does is explain to the nation, yes the President like any other person is not feeling well, he has gone for a medical check-up and he will be available. I saw how people overacted to what Emmanuel Mwamba was saying that sometimes the people around the Presidency are the ones that cause problems for the Presidency itself. To the effect that if the President is not well, you don’t want to communicate for fear of your own, not knowing that that person is a human being and people must understand that he is a human being who can equally feel unwell, who can feel stressed. So to avoid speculations it is important to give the accurate information to people”.

Further, Kampyongo said President Hichilema said he was a workaholic who didn’t believe in holidays hence the speculations.

“Like I said if it’s a holiday, it must be known, oh the President will be away for two weeks, working holiday, oh it’s not working holiday, it’s just a vacation. You know people will speculate not forgetting the pronouncements that have come from the President himself who says he is a workaholic who doesn’t believe in holidays and he would want to work throughout. So if people see him disappear and they know that his philosophy is to work, work, work throughout then they begin to speculate. So, you cannot blame the people, the citizens and all those that are expressing concerns and issuing statements. Let the government just be open and transparent, simple,” said Kampyongo.

“And they should know that the President is a Republican President for all the citizens, those that belong to his ruling party and those who don’t belong to his ruling party and they all have the right to know what is happening to their President. He is the only one that is there now. People want to avoid branding him as being hypocritical because he says he believes in work, work, work, so for them to see him go for a holiday is unusual and a holiday which is not properly and publicly pronounced”.

Police Open Case Against Miles Sampa Over Chawama Poll Claims

🇿🇲 BRIEFING | Police Open Case Against Miles Sampa Over Chawama Poll Claims

The Zambia Police Service has opened a criminal case against Miles Sampa, the Patriotic Front Matero Member of Parliament, following a formal complaint by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said the complaint was lodged on January 20, 2026, at Lusaka Central Police Station by Raphael Phiri, a Corporate Affairs Officer at the ECZ, acting on behalf of the Commission.

The case relates to statements made by Mr Sampa on January 15 during the Chawama parliamentary by-election, in which he alleged that a fake polling station had been set up along Lilayi Road. The ECZ has maintained that the allegation was false and misleading.

Police have opened a docket for the offence of transmission of unsolicited or deceptive communication, contrary to Section 19 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025. Investigations are underway.

The development follows Mr Sampa’s public apology issued on January 18, in which he acknowledged that the polling station he questioned was legitimate and said his earlier claims were based on incorrect information.

UPND ACCUSED OF SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT AS MILES SAMPA CASE SPARKS DEBATE

UPND ACCUSED OF SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT AS MILES SAMPA CASE SPARKS DEBATE.

The arrest complaint against Patriotic Front faction leader Honourable Miles Sampa has ignited a wider public debate, with critics accusing the ruling UPND of applying the law selectively in an election-sensitive period.

On Monday, the Zambia Police Service confirmed that a complaint had been lodged against Mr. Sampa by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) over allegations that he circulated false information claiming a fake polling station had been opened along Lusaka’s Ring Road. Police say investigations are underway under Section 19 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025, which addresses the transmission of unsolicited or deceptive communication.

However, the development has drawn mixed reactions from political commentators and citizens, many of whom argue that the authorities are ignoring key mitigating factors, including Mr. Sampa’s public retraction and apology. Several contributors to public discussion platforms noted that the retraction was issued promptly on the same social media platform where the original claim appeared and was later carried in government-owned print media.

Critics contend that proceeding with criminal investigations despite the apology reflects selective enforcement of the law. They point to past instances where senior UPND figures allegedly made unverified or false claims without attracting similar police action. One example repeatedly cited is President Hakainde Hichilema’s previous remarks alleging the beating of Tonga people at Intercity Bus Terminus in Choma claims that, according to critics, were not subjected to police scrutiny.

Political analysts warn that the handling of the Miles Sampa matter could deepen perceptions of bias and intolerance, particularly as Zambia heads toward a highly charged election cycle. Some argue that while the initial statement by Mr. Sampa was irresponsible and potentially destabilizing, the swift retraction and apology should have warranted administrative engagement rather than criminal prosecution.

“There is a legitimate expectation that when a public figure admits an error, retracts, and apologises, the matter should be de-escalated,” one commentator observed, adding that “not every mistake requires the heavy hand of the police.”

Supporters of this view caution that criminalising political speech selectively risks eroding public trust in state institutions such as the police and ECZ, which are expected to act impartially. They further argue that inconsistent application of the law could ultimately harm the credibility of the government more than its political opponents.

As investigations continue, observers say the manner in which the case is handled will be closely watched as a test of the UPND government’s commitment to fairness, equal application of the law, and tolerance of dissenting political voices.

CHINGOLA MAN NURSING  M@N00D INJURIES AFTER ALLEGED ATTACK BY LANDLORD, POLICE SAY

A 33-year-old Chingola man is nursing manhood wounds after he was allegedly assaulted and robbed by a man believed to be his landlord, with police investigating claims the attack followed a dispute over unpaid rent.

The incident happened yesterday in Nchanga South.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi said the victim, identified as Arnold Mwape, was attacked while asleep in his house.

“The brief facts of the matter are that the victim was sleeping on Monday around 11:00 hrs at the above mentioned abode when he was awaken by the strange noise,” Mr Yuyi said.

He explained that the victim later saw a man he knows as Chama, commonly known in Chingola as Chama Mayanda, together with three other male persons, who allegedly forced their way into the house.

Mr Yuyi said the suspect identified is allegedly the victim’s landlord.

“He [Mwape] only saw Chama with three other male persons who entered inside the house by damaging the locking system using the iron bar without saying any word. Chama started kicking him,” Mr Yuyi said.

Mr Yuyi said Mwape sustained injuries after allegedly being kicked on his private parts, resulting in pain and bleeding.

He later managed to escape and reported the matter at Derricky Chiludika Police Post, under Nchanga Police Station.

Mr Yuyi further said that when the victim later returned to the house, several items were discovered missing.

“However, there is a claim from the victim that when he went back to the house the following items are discovered missing: one black charger valued at K150.00, a black smart jacket valued at K500.00 and K25,500.00 cash which was in the envelope on the table in the bedroom,” he said.

The victim has since been admitted to Nchanga North General Hospital.

Mr Yuyi said a docket has been opened and investigations have been instituted, with police launching a manhunt for the suspects.

“Man hunt is already underway,” he said.

Eastern Province powers 70% grade 12 pass rate

Eastern Province powers 70% grade 12 pass rate

THE mouse eating province has been given the bragging rights over its tribal cousins from the North who will be forced to swallow the bitter facts that Eastern Province is a powerhouse in producing great grade 12 results in the nation.

This is after the Ministry of Education announced that Zambia’s grade 12 learners have pushed the national pass rate beyond 70 percent with Eastern Province topping the results for the fourth consecutive year.

The achievement marks the first time the nation has crossed the 70 percent barrier for grade 12 examinations, turning classrooms into launchpads for learner success.

Out of 197,777 candidates who registered for the 2025 school certificate examinations, 136,434 earned school certificates while 2,941 failed and 3,621 were absent.

This milestone reflects a 2.08 point rise from last year.

According to Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima, this highlights that even with more students in classrooms under free education, learning outcomes continue to improve.

Among those who sat for the exams in Zambia, 52.22 percent were female and 47.78 percent male, indicating strong female participation.

Syakalima said the results continue a five-year upward trend, with pass rates climbing from 63.93 percent in 2020 to 70.27 percent in 2025, proving that expanded access has gone hand-in-hand with better performance.

The minister attributed the achievement to deliberate reforms placed by government, including hiring more teachers, improving school supervision, supplying desks and learning materials.

Announcing the 2025 School Certificate and Teacher Education Examination results in Lusaka today, Syakalima noted that consistent disbursement of school grants and an enhanced school feeding programme that is helping learners stay in class have also contributed to the milestone.

“Further, it is worth noting that candidate absenteeism has continued to reduce, despite the consistent increase in candidature.

The recorded improvement in performance and all other achievements stated are a result of the sound policies and interventions the government is putting in place,“ said the minister.

I WILL NOT CONTEST UGANDA ELECTION RESULTS IN COURT- BOBI WINE

BOBI WINE SAYS HE WILL NOT CONTEST UGANDA ELECTION RESULTS IN COURT

UGANDA’S opposition leader Bobi Wine has told the BBC he will not contest the results of Thursday’s election in court, citing a lack of confidence in the judiciary and has instead urged his supporters to take to the streets to peacefully protest.

Speaking to the BBC from hiding, he said he would continue to stand up to President Yoweri Museveni despite concerns for his safety.

“The judiciary in Uganda is captured and we encourage Ugandans to use any legal means to fight back and protect their democracy,” the 43-year-old former pop star said.

Museveni, 81, won the vote by a landslide and has accused the opposition of seeking to overturn the results through violence, calling them “terrorists”.

He gained 72% of the vote while Wine, his closest challenger, got 25%.

Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, maintains the results are “fake” and has cited “ballot stuffing” without providing any details.

During his interview, Wine also hit out at the security forces for not allowing food into his family home where his wife and relatives are effectively under house arrest. He says he fled the house, in a suburb of the capital, Kampala, on Friday night during a raid by the security forces.

“We reject those results because they are fake and they don’t in any way reflect the voting pattern. They are completely different from the results in the electoral on the polling stations and on the declaration forms,” Wine told the BBC, speaking from an undisclosed location.

The authorities have not responded to his allegations, but the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) said the “technical and procedural” challenges observed on polling day did not undermine the overall fairness of the vote.

In their report, the African Union (AU) election observers said they saw “no evidence of ballot stuffing”, but condemned days-long internet shutdown which only returned hours after President Museveni was declared the winner on Saturday

After losing to Museveni in 2021, Wine challenged the results but later withdrew the petition, citing what he called the court’s bias and lack of impartiality.

Wine, who has lost his presidential bid for a second time, also alleged there was an ongoing “silent massacre” as political activists were targeted in a crackdown.

In a social media post he said more than 100 people had been killed in election violence – without stating evidence.

More than 100 youths have been remanded in prison on various charges linked to election-related incidents across Kampala, the Daily Monitor newspaper reported.

In a post on X on Monday, Uganda’s army chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also President Museveni’s son and his potential successor, said the security forces had killed 22 opposition supporters during poll-related violence.

Gen Kainerugaba also threatened Wine, giving him “exactly 48 hours to surrender himself to the police”.

“If he doesn’t we will treat him as an outlaw/rebel and handle him accordingly,” he said.

In his BBC interview, Wine said he fled his home after learning that security forces were planning to “attack” him.

“They jumped off my fence and cut off my electricity and the surveillance cameras. I saw it dangerous for me to stay around,” said Wine, who has not been seen in public for days.

“You have heard Museveni’s son promising to harm me. He has promised to harm people and… he has delivered to it. You have read his recent tweets. That’s why I have to be careful with myself,” he said.

Although the internet was restored late on Saturday, Wine said he was not able to reach his wife because of signal jammers near his home.

The police have denied raiding the opposition leader’s home, saying the security deployment was to protect him as a presidential candidate.

Wine went on to call for a “peaceful change” of regime, saying protests were constitutional rights.

“We encourage Ugandans to evoke any constitutional means to fight back,” he added.

On Tuesday, Donald Muhwezi, a local police chief in Kampala, told local media that police were not concerned about Wine’s whereabouts, “as long as he is safe”.

In his victory speech on Sunday, Museveni said his election win showed the dominance of his party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Museveni first came to power as a rebel leader in 1986 but since then has won seven elections.

Uganda has not witnessed a peaceful transfer of presidential power since independence.

TRUMP ATTACKS UK OVER AFRICAN ISLAND SOVEREIGNTY

🚨 TRUMP ATTACKS UK OVER AFRICAN ISLAND SOVEREIGNTY🇲🇺🇺🇸

President Donald Trump has called Britain’s decision to return the Chagos Islands to  Mauritius “an act of GREAT STUPIDITY,” reigniting the debate over African sovereignty and Western military interests.

The shocking statement comes as  UK prepares to hand over the islands that were forcibly taken from Mauritius during colonization—a move that African nations have championed for decades as decolonization justice.

But Trump isn’t celebrating African sovereignty. Instead, he’s warning that China and Russia will see it as “weakness” and using it to justify his Greenland acquisition push.

The irony is deafening: Africa finally reclaims stolen land, and the West calls it “stupidity.”

➡️ Chagos Islands returning to Mauritius after British colonial rule

➡️ £3.4 billion deal includes 99-year lease for Diego Garcia military base

➡️ Mauritius celebrates sovereignty victory

➡️ International courts sided with African nation

➡️ Africa watches as Western powers fight over “giving back” what was stolen

This is the reality of decolonization in 2025—African sovereignty is still seen as a threat, not a right.

A SHOCKING VIDEO OF AFRICAN CASTING HAS EMERGED

He handled four girls alone and one man spotted his baby mama in the group and it sent him to a heartbreak instantly.

I SAW MY BABY MAMA KARABO (IN GREEN) ON AFRICAN CASTING — I DON’T WANT THE CHILD ANYMORE, MLUNGU CAN BE THE FATHER

A heartbroken man has come forward with a story that has shaken him to the core and left him feeling humiliated in his own community.

According to the man, his world came crashing down after he allegedly saw a video of his baby mama, Karabo, circulating on adult-content platforms linked to African casting. The video, which has since spread rapidly on phones across the township, has become a painful public spectacle he says he cannot escape.

“I am devastated,” he said. “My biggest fear now is walking in the streets of my community.”

He claims that everywhere he goes — from Indian shops to car washes — men are openly watching the video. Even unemployed nyaope addicts, he says, deliberately turn up the volume when they see him approaching, just to make sure he knows they have watched the mother of his child exposed and intimate with another man.

“Ngibuhlungu,” he said. “I am in pain.”

The man says the humiliation cuts even deeper because this is the woman with whom he shares a child. He now fears that the child will forever remind him of what he has seen and the lifestyle he believes the mother chose.

“I don’t think I will be able to associate myself with the child anymore,” he said. “Every time I look at her, I will remember her mother.”

He also expressed anger over what he believes were lies told to him late last year. He says in December his baby mama was living large — drinking expensive Ice Tropez….WATCH VIDEO ON COMMENTS

‘I was humiliated’ — Chelle reveals country he won’t coach again

VP MEWS January 18, 2026

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has strongly debunked claims he would consider a return to the Mali national team.

According to Chelle, he was “humiliated” by his country in front of the world.

The 48-year-old’s future is the subject of speculations, after he led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

He was asked by reporters if he could love to coach Mali again.

“I can tell you something, Mali is my country, it’s the country of my mother,” Chelle said.

“And I was humiliated after the game in front of the world.”

Chelle’s contract with the Nigeria Footbal Federation, NFF, elapses at the end of this AFCON.

Putin using religious nuns to target Europe as ‘war-loving convent’ unmasked

0

Vladimir Putin has been accused of using religious nuns as a weapon against Europe after a convent was unmasked as a secret Kremlin operation.

Shocking photographs show a nun in her habits holding up a Russian flag with a ‘Z’ logo emblazoned across it – an icon used to show support for the de@dly invasion of Ukraine.

Sisters from the St Elisabeth Orthodox convent, originally based in Belarus, were found to be active at over 20 churches across Sweden, where they carried out fundraising efforts and sold religious souvenirs. Authorities now believe the proceeds were used to support Russian military units on the frontline.

In one case, the nuns were found to have been selling handmade crafts, wooden icons, and knitwear in Täby, a suburb of Stockholm, having been invited in by the local vicar, who was unaware of their Kremlin ties.

A church belonging to the closely-tied Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was meanwhile built near Stockholm Vasteras airport – one described as having ‘strategic importance’ to NATO.

The sisters had previously been banned from visiting Winchester Cathedral in 2022 over their pro-war stance.

Catholic and Orthodox communities across Sweden have now been warned to avoid all co-operation with the St Elisabeth convent and to report any activity to police.

Kristina Smith, head of the Church of Sweden’s crisis planning group, revealed that the Russian Orthodox Church had also attempted to hire facilities near military bases – and described the situation as a “rude awakening” for the Scandinavian nation

She told the Telegraph: “It’s a new thing for Sweden as a society – the full-scale invasion of 2022 was a rude awakening for a lot of Swedes. We prided ourselves on not being at war for 200 years, for being a nice country, a country that everyone wanted to be nice towards, but I think it was an awakening for the entire country that that is not really the case.”

The sister recently visited occupied territories of Ukraine to “bolster the morale” of Russian forces, with one picture showing a nun stood in front of a tank next to a smiling soldier.

It comes after a separate convent was banned from the EU Schengen area after being found to have provided support to Russian troops.

An investigation found nuns from the Narva diocese of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate had been given fictitious contracts to raised funds purchase of strike drones, Starlink equipment, and specialist use of military gear.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino condemns Senegal’s ‘unacceptable’ behaviour

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has strongly condemned the “unacceptable” conduct of Senegal players and coaching staff following a chaotic conclusion to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) final.

The football chief stated that “violence and walk-offs had no place in football” after the contentious match.

Senegal secured the title with a 1-0 victory over hosts Morocco, thanks to Pape Gueye’s extra-time strike.

However, the triumph was overshadowed by a disputed late penalty decision, which prompted Senegal players to abandon the pitch in protest, leading to a temporary halt and angry scenes around match officials.

After a delay of over 15 minutes, the Senegal players returned to the pitch, and Morocco’s Brahim Diaz missed the subsequent penalty as his ‘Panenka’ attempt was easily saved by ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to take the game to extra time.

Gueye’s goal sealed victory for Senegal, but Infantino hit out at the way the Senegal players conducted themselves during the final moments of normal time.

Congratulating Senegal on their win, Mr Infantino added: “We also witnessed unacceptable scenes on the field and in the stands – we strongly condemn the behaviour of some ‘supporters’ as well as some Senegalese players and technical staff members.

“It is unacceptable to leave the field of play in this manner, and equally, violence cannot be tolerated in our sport, it is simply not right.”

He stressed the importance of respecting officials’ decisions, warning that “anything less puts the very essence of football at risk.”

Nicki Minaj calls media personality Don Lemon a homophobic slur after church incident in Minnesota

Rapper Nicki Minaj criticised former CNN anchor-turned independent journalist Don Lemon on social media after he livestreamed coverage of a protest that disrupted a church service in Minnesota.

On X, Minaj wrote in capital letters, “DON ‘COCK SUCKIN’ LEMON IS DISGUSTING,” and added, “HOW DARE YOU? I WANT THAT THUG IN JAIL!!!!! HE WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO ANY OTHER RELIGION. LOCK HIM UP!!!!!”

The incident stemmed from a demonstration on Sunday at Cities Church in St. Paul, where a group of protesters interrupted a Sunday worship service to challenge the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and to raise concerns about the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a 37-year-old woman who was killed by an ICE agent earlier this month during a federal enforcement operation. The shooting and immigration enforcement activity in the Minneapolis area have sparked widespread protests and heightened tensions.

Rapper Nicki Minaj calls media personality Don Lemon a homophobic slur after church incident in Minnesota

Don Lemon was on site livestreaming the confrontation and reporting on the protest. Conservative figures, including Department of Justice officials, criticised Lemon’s presence at the scene and have called for legal action over the disruption of the church service. The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division has said it is investigating whether federal laws prohibiting interference with worship were violated during the incident.

Lemon responded to critics by defending his coverage, saying he was reporting on events in a journalistic capacity and noting that reporting on protests is protected under the First Amendment.

President Donald Trump’s White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also weighed in, stating that the administration “will not tolerate the intimidation and harassment of Christians in their sacred places of worship” and that the Department of Justice had launched a full investigation into the matter.

Minaj’s comments reflect broader national debates over media coverage, protests against federal immigration enforcement, and the role of public figures in responding to news events.

World Economic Forum organisers pull Iran’s Foreign Minister

0

Iran’s foreign minister will no longer attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, after organisers said it would be inappropriate for the country to be represented following weeks of deadly protests and a violent crackdown by security forces.

Abbas Araghchi had been scheduled to speak on Tuesday at the annual gathering of political and business leaders in the Swiss ski resort. However, pressure mounted on organisers after rights groups and activists accused Iranian authorities of carrying out mass killings during nationwide demonstrations.

Confirming the decision on Monday, the World Economic Forum said the Iranian foreign minister would not be attending the summit.

“Although he was invited last fall, the tragic loss of lives of civilians in Iran over the past few weeks means that it is not right for the Iranian government to be represented at Davos this year,” the organisation said.

Protests erupted across Iran in late December, driven by widespread anger over economic hardship and living conditions, in what observers described as one of the most serious challenges to the country’s leadership in recent years.

The demonstrations later subsided following a heavy security crackdown, which coincided with a communications blackout imposed from January 8.

Norway-based group Iran Human Rights said it has verified the deaths of 3,428 protesters allegedly killed by Iranian security forces. The organisation said its figures were confirmed through sources within Iran’s health and medical system, eyewitness accounts and other independent channels.

The group warned that the actual death toll could be significantly higher. The figures have not been independently verified by media organisations, and Iranian authorities have not released an official casualty count.

Vladimir Putin invited to join Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza

0

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to join United States President Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace,” a body expected to oversee the demilitarization and reconstruction of Gaza, the Kremlin has confirmed.

Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, disclosed the development during a media briefing on Monday, saying the invitation was conveyed through diplomatic channels.

“President Putin has received an invitation to join this Board of Peace,” Peskov said, adding that the Kremlin is reviewing the proposal and awaiting further details from the US side. The White House has yet to comment on the matter as at press time.

Later on Monday, Belarus’ Foreign Ministry announced that President Alexander Lukashenko had also received an invitation to join the board. In a statement, the ministry said Minsk welcomed the gesture and appreciated being recognised as a country “ready to take on the noble responsibility of building a lasting peace and investing in a secure and prosperous future for generations to come.”

Lukashenko is a close ally of Putin and has long faced international criticism over governance and human rights issues.

The Board of Peace, to be chaired by Trump, is described as a central pillar of a United Nations-backed American initiative aimed at rebuilding Gaza after two years of devastating conflict between Israel and the Hamas militant group.

However, the proposal has already drawn criticism. Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Helen McEntee, warned that the body could overstep its mandate, stressing that the United Nations remains the primary institution responsible for maintaining international peace and security.

She said the legitimacy of international law and multilateral cooperation is more important than ever, despite acknowledged shortcomings within the UN system.

Trump has described the proposed body as the “greatest and most prestigious board ever assembled.” According to information released by various governments, the committee is expected to include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Israel has also been invited to join as a founding member, with an invitation extended to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or a designated representative. Other leaders reportedly invited include the presidents of Turkey, Argentina and Egypt, as well as the prime ministers of Hungary and India.

Details of the board’s composition have largely emerged through announcements by individual countries, rather than official statements from Washington.

According to a US official, members who contribute $1 billion will receive a permanent seat on the board, while those who do not will serve a three-year term. All funds raised are expected to be directed toward Gaza’s reconstruction, with assurances that the board will avoid excessive administrative costs.

Putin’s potential participation would mark a significant re-entry into high-level global engagement for the Russian leader, who has largely been sidelined from international cooperation since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Russia’s involvement in the Israel-Hamas conflict has so far been limited, although Moscow has offered to mediate, citing its ties with both sides. Unlike many Western countries, Russia does not officially classify Hamas as a terrorist organisation, and senior Hamas officials visited Moscow shortly after the October 7 attacks on Israel.

The Kremlin has also hosted talks between rival Palestinian factions, and reports indicate that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to visit Russia in the coming days.

Rihanna reacts after being hit by a closing door while leaving New York hotel

International music star Rihanna had a brief but awkward moment with a member of her security team over the weekend in New York.

The 37-year-old singer was leaving the Four Seasons Hotel in Manhattan when the incident occurred. Rihanna was in the city ahead of her partner A$AP Rocky’s appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Videos shared online show Rihanna exiting the hotel through a set of double doors. The man walking ahead of her, believed to be her bodyguard, stepped out first without holding the door, allowing it to swing back and hit the singer.

Reacting immediately, Rihanna made a sarcastic comment as she pushed through the door, saying, “Such a gentleman you are,” Daily Mail reported.

The moment, captured on camera, quickly circulated on social media and drew reactions from viewers, many of whom criticised the bodyguard for not being attentive.

Several users on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out that the issue was not about opening a door for someone, but about awareness and professionalism, especially given his role.

Despite the brief incident, Rihanna appeared unbothered afterward. She later joined A$AP Rocky at the afterparty following his SNL appearance, which was hosted by actor Finn Wolfhard.

The singer, who is a mother of three, has been in the spotlight recently after hinting in an earlier interview that she may be open to having another child.

Trump says losing the Nobel Prize means he’s done thinking about Peace in letter to Norway’s Prime Minister

US President Donald Trump reportedly said he no longer feels obliged to think only of peace after he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize, as he again repeated his demand for control of Greenland.

In a message to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump blamed the country for not giving him the prize, BBC News reports.Entertainment center

“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace,” Trump said in a message to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

“The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland,” he added.

It is unclear why Trump decided to send a message to Støre as the peace prize is decided by the Norwegian Nobel Committee and not the government.

In his reply to Trump, Støre explained that an independent committee, not the government of Norway, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in October to Venezuela’s opposition leader María Corina Machado.

“I have clearly explained, including to president Trump what is well known, the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee,” Store said.

Last week, Venezuela’s opposition leader María Corina Machado gifted her Nobel Peace Prize medal to him at the White House.

Machado was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her leadership of Venezuela’s opposition movement amid a crackdown by President Nicolás Maduro, most notably in the much-maligned 2023 presidential election.

Machado’s gesture to Trump followed a series of developments in Venezuela after a blitz US military raid captured Maduro and his wife and brought them to New York to stand trial on drug trafficking charges two weeks ago.

During the visit, Machado gave Trump her Nobel medal “as a recognition for his unique commitment to our freedom,” she told reporters outside the US Capitol.

Trump confirmed on social media that Machado had left the medal for him to keep and said it was an honour to meet her.

What was Emmanuel Mwamba’s role surrounding the untimely death of  Former President Frederick Chiluba- Nevers Mumba

President Hakainde Hichilema is showing Unnecessary Panic- Amb Emmanuel Mwamba

President Hakainde Hichilema is showing Unnecessary Panic.

President Hakainde Hichilema has been reportedly away at his Choma farm since last year.

Everytime the question of his absence is raised, he makes sudden public appearances; in the farm field, at the Daniel Munkombwe Toll Gate, at Choma Sports Complex for a public rally, and now he made a live phone call to a tv station.

If the President is unwell, it should not be a matter of a top national secret or a case of hide and seek. He is human and like all human beings he may occassionally fall ill. The nation wants its President well and in good health, and they will pray for him if there was something untoward.

If however, the President is on official leave, his team must just state it so that the nation can be informed and probably allow his Vice President to act and respond to serious issues affecting the country such as;

1. the case of unpaid farmers,
2. the continued diesel shortage and
3. the floods that have affected the country.

I wonder why he and his team complicate simple issues. If he is on leave (working or total leave), he will be left alone to rest and enjoy his holiday.

Hichilema picks live call, dismisses sickness claims, assures farmers on payments

Hichilema picks live call, dismisses sickness claims, assures farmers on payments

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema last evening personally dismissed rumours about his health and assured farmers of pending payments after unexpectedly picking a live phone call on a live television programme.

The Head of State was put on loudspeaker during the show on Diamond TV last night after Permanent Secretary for Information and Media, Thabo Kawana, called him live on air to address growing speculation that the President was seriously ill and out of public view.

Clearly amused, President Hichilema questioned why such rumours had gained traction, stating that there was nothing like that and confirming that he was well.

“I’m here. I’m fine,” the President said, adding that even when on leave, the responsibilities of leading the country do not stop.

President Hichilema used the moment to speak directly to farmers, acknowledging concerns over delayed payments for maize delivered to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

The President explained that government initially planned to purchase 500,000 metric tonnes of maize but later increased the figure to 1.6 million metric tonnes after farmers responded positively to calls for increased production.

“That created a funding gap, but the money has now been raised and is with the banks,” the President said.

He admitted that payments had been slow due to logistical challenges, including some farmers lacking bank accounts or mobile money facilities, but said that payments were ongoing.

“We apologise for the delay, but farmers will be paid. That is their money. They worked for it,” he said.

The President further stated that government is working on structured export markets to ensure that surplus maize is absorbed, noting that Zambia produces more maize than it consumes.

Responding to reports suggesting that some people were wishing him dead, President Hichilema expressed concern over what he described as irresponsible talk around life and death.

“It’s only God who controls life. I am here, clearly healthy,” said the President.

Miles Sampa has committed a crime, says Hichilema

Miles Sampa has committed a crime, says Hichilema

President Hakainde Hichilema says Matero member of Parliament, Miles Sampa has committed a serious crime to allege that there were secret polling stations during the Chawama by-elections.

Speaking on a phone call made by Ministry of information and Media permanent secretary, Thabo Kawana on Diamond TV last evening, President Hichilema alleged Chawama Constituency was the birth of panga politics stating saying that, the behaviour is now in past as the constituency just experienced free and fair elections.

The Head of State says that citizens must acknowledge things that happen positively as they are for the good of everyone and not selected individuals.

Meanwhile, yesterday, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ)  lodged a formal complaint at Lusaka Central Police Station against Sampa stating that the lawmaker spread false information about a fake polling station.

Zambia Police Service spokesman, Godfrey Chilabi has confirmed this development and has disclosed that the service has opened a docket of   case for the offense of transmission of unsolicited or deceptive communication contrary to Section 19 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025

Chilabi says investigations regarding the matter have started and citizens will be informed of developments made.
