Thief returns stolen mandolins to US guitar shop, apologises in note saying ‘I was drunk’

A bizarre theft at a vintage guitar store in the US state of New Jersey has taken an unexpected turn, ending not with an arrest but with remorse and a handwritten apology. Two mandolins stolen earlier this month from Lark Street Music were quietly returned days later by the man who took them, apparently after realising the gravity of his actions.

The store revealed the development in a Facebook post, saying the instruments were brought back in two shopping bags and left at the front door. Alongside them was a handwritten note, partly written in capital letters, that read, “SORRY, I BEEN DRUNK, MERRY CHRISTMAS. You are good man.”

Dramatic return caught the owner off guard
The return unfolded in dramatic fashion. In the same post, the store described how the man slipped back to the premises unnoticed before fleeing down the street.

“The thief surreptitiously opened the front door and returned them in two shopping bags. I ran up to the door and saw him running down the street, so summoning all my feet fleetness, I took off after him. Not so smart, I lost him, called 911, and they are in pursuit. Your re-posts and pressure definitely made him realise the walls were closing in. Thank you all! I feel like I’m in a TV movie,” the post read.

Store owner left stunned
The mandolins belonged to the shop’s owner, Buzzy Levine, who has run the business since 1981. Speaking to ABC News, Levine said he was left astonished when the instruments reappeared.

“I couldn’t believe it. I said, ‘this is insane.’ This is like, some kind of weird movie that has a happy ending or something,” Levine told ABC News.

Earlier, the store had released surveillance footage showing the suspected thief hiding the mandolins

under his parka before leaving the shop on December 22. The appeal for public help in identifying the suspect was widely shared.

Police continue investigation
According to ABC News, the stolen mandolins were valued at $3,500 and $4,250. Despite their safe return, the case is not officially closed.

Christopher Kurschner, captain of investigations for the Teaneck Police Department, said authorities are still investigating the incident and that no arrests have been made so far.

Anthony Joshua cheated de@th by making a last-minute decision

Anthony Joshua cheated de@th by making a last-minute decision.

Two of Joshua’s friends were k!lled in the fatal crash on Monday, Dec. 29 with the boxer taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of his car has been charged with causing de@th by dangerous driving and his lawyer revealed the twist of fate.

It has now been revealed that Anthony Joshua escaped de@th by swapping seats minutes before embarking on the journey.

“My client has pleaded not guilty and what happened was an accident, I haven’t had a full chance to speak with him yet but I know he is saying the brakes did not work,” Joshua’s driver, Olalekan Abiodun told the Daily Mail.

“I also understand that the journey started in Lagos and that initially Anthony had got into the front seat but the driver asked him to swap seats. He did this because Anthony is a big fellow and he couldn’t see the wing mirror properly so he asked him to move and he sat behind the driver. From what I understand Latif was in front after he changed seats with Anthony.”

Earlier on Friday, Jan. 2, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, had been charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court, with the case adjourned January 20. Police brought four charges against the driver; causing de@th by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s licence.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, January 2, 2026 and the case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026,” a statement on the force’s official X account read.

In addition to being long-term friends of Joshua, Ghami acted as his strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was a trainer. Joshua, who was born in Watford to Nigerian parents, was on holiday in Nigeria following his win over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn – who has promoted 36-year-old Joshua since he turned professional, after he won gold at the London 2012 Olympics – posted a tribute to Ghami and Ayodele, highlighting the mens’ “energy and loyalty”.

Joshua was released from hospital on New Year’s Eve and is yet to comment on the accident.

In a joint statement with Ogun state, which he posted on X, Lagos state commissioner for information Gbenga Omotoso said Joshua was “deemed clinical fit to recuperate from home”.

The statement said: “Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation scheduled for later this evening.”

China introduces C0nd0m tax in move to boost birth rates

The Chinese government has reportedly introduced a 13% sales tax on contraceptives from 1 January, while exempting childcare services, in a bid to address its declining birth rates.

According to BBC News, Official figures show China’s population has shrunk for the third year in a row, with just 9.54 million babies born in 2024, roughly half the number recorded a decade ago.

From January 1, contraceptives that were exempt from value-added tax (VAT) for over three decades are now subject to a 13% levy. The exemption dated back to 1994, when China was firmly enforcing its one-child policy.

The revised structure, announced in late 2025, removes these legacy concessions while extending VAT relief to childcare services, elderly care, and marriage-related expenses.

Alongside tax changes, authorities also rolled out measures including longer parental leave and cash handouts.

But the decision to tax contraceptives has sparked widespread debate – and ridicule online.

Daniel Luo, 36, who has one child and has no plans to have more, doesn’t believe raising tax on contraceptives will lead to more babies.

‘It’s like when subway fares increase. When they go up by a yuan or two, people who take the subway don’t change their habits. You still have to take the subway, right?’ the 36-year-old, who lives in the eastern province of Henan, told the BBC.

Others, meanwhile, worry the tax could have unintended consequences.

Rosy Zhao, who lives in the central city of Xi’an, warned that making contraception more expensive could push students or people struggling financially to take risks.

She said this would be ‘the policy’s most dangerous potential outcome’.

Some experts question whether boosting birth rates is the real reason behind the tax introduction.

Demographer Yi Fuxian suggests the government is instead looking to raise revenue as it grapples with rising debt and a property downturn.

Piper Rockelle earns over $1 million in under an hour on OnlyFans, sparking mixed reactions online.

Piper Rockelle started 2026 with a bang, claiming she earned over $1 million in under an hour after launching her OnlyFans account. The influencer shared a screen grab from her dashboard showing $896,000 in subscriptions, $299,711 from messages, and $63,342 in tips.

She celebrated the milestone on X, writing, “We broke the record!!! $1,000,000 in less than an hour, you guys are the best, thank you for changing my life.”

The post sparked a mix of reactions online. While some fans praised her achievement, others criticized the platform’s connection to young audiences. Comments under her announcement ranged from concern over her age to admiration for the business milestone.

“Kind of disturbing people follow child youtubers and pray for the day they do OF…” wrote one social media user.

Who is Piper Rockelle?
Rockelle, born in Georgia, first gained attention at the age of 8 when she began posting videos on YouTube alongside her mother, Tiffany Smith.

The content quickly attracted millions of followers, and Rockelle later formed a group of teen influencers known as the “Piper Squad.” The group produced collaborative videos and helped Rockelle rise to prominence as one of the most recognizable teen creators in the United States.

Her early success was accompanied by controversy. In January 2022, 11 former members of the Piper Squad filed a lawsuit against Smith, alleging that they were not fairly compensated for their work and subjected to inappropriate treatment. Smith denied the claims, and the lawsuit was settled in October 2024 for nearly $2 million.

The family’s story was later featured in the Netflix documentary Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing, which showed the challenges and allegations surrounding Rockelle’s rise as a young influencer. Rockelle herself declined to participate in the documentary but has spoken about the impact the events had on her life and career.

Now 18, Rockelle has taken steps to gain control over her career and business affairs.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, she explained that she planned to transfer ownership of Piper Rockelle, Inc., from her mother to herself, describing it as a way to protect her family and manage her life independently.

With millions of followers across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, Rockelle has built a loyal fan base.

Elon Musk declares ‘it is war’ after TikToker says he is ‘about to die’ during livestream

Elon Musk has reacted sharply after a Somali TikToker said during a livestream that he was “about to die,” a comment widely interpreted as a threat to the billionaire’s life. The remark was made during a livestream by a creator identified online as “Dowza.z”, whose account has since been deleted, according to a Fox News report.

In the livestream, the TikToker switched between Somali and English while discussing Musk’s recent criticism of alleged fraud linked to Somali-run businesses in Minnesota. Referring to Musk, she said in English, “I wouldn’t worry too much about him, he about to die.”

The clip quickly drew backlash online, with several social media users interpreting the comment as a death threat. Musk himself appeared to take the comment as a threat, responding to the video on an X post in which he wrote, “Then it is war.”

Conservative figures weighed in as well. Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah wrote, “Deport her immediately. She shouldn’t be here,” although it remains unclear where the TikTok user resides or what her citizenship status is.

DogeDesigner, an X account with over 1.7 million followers, wrote, “Protect Elon Musk at all costs.”

Libs of TikTok, an account with some 4.5 million followers, wrote, “The somali tiktoker who mocked Americans had a meltdown over Elon Musk and appeared to threaten his life.”

Minnesota Somali fraud
Notably, the controversy comes amid heightened scrutiny of alleged large-scale fraud in Minnesota involving members of the Somali American community. According to a Fox News report, authorities have charged at least 77 people in the “Feeding Our Future” case, a $250 million scheme that allegedly exploited pandemic-era waivers in federal child nutrition programmes. Another investigation concerns alleged fraud within the state’s Housing Stability Services Program under Medicaid.

The cases have triggered political reactions, including US President Donald Trump’s announcement of plans to end Temporary Protected Status for Somali migrants in Minnesota and renewed enforcement actions by the Department of Homeland Security targeting those accused of participating in fraud.

Musk has also been highly vocal about the fraud being uncovered in Minnesota. In a post on Saturday, the billionaire said that the fraud scheme going on in Minnesota is “one of the many” and that while leading the Department of Government Efficiency under President Donald Trump, his team “found hundreds of fraud schemes.”

“There was massive fraud in every government program, especially Federal funds sent as block grants to the states,” said Musk.

Steve Bannon accuses Trump of lifting Hillary Clinton’s ‘playbook’

Former White House adviser Steve Bannon on Friday launched a sharp round of criticism at Donald Trump, arguing that the president’s threat to intervene if Iran violently suppresses anti-government protests closely mirrors warnings once issued by his onetime opponent, Hillary Clinton, and other Obama-era officials.

Speaking on his “War Room” podcast alongside CDM.press editor-in-chief Todd Wood, Bannon mocked Trump’s comments as identical to Clinton’s foreign policy position while she was Barack Obama’s secretary of state, as well as to former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power.

“Aren’t people teasing right now that Samantha Power and Hillary Clinton must somehow have gotten invited to the Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve celebration?” Bannon said on the podcast, as reported by The Hill. “Because the president coming out today saying, ‘Hey, we’re locked and loaded,’ isn’t that straight from the Samantha Power and Hillary Clinton playbook?”

Power served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 2013 to 2017 and later led the U.S. Agency for International Development from 2021 to 2025.

Bannon argued Friday that the Trump administration should instead focus on maintaining economic pressure on Tehran and “let the mullahs try to run the economy as they’re running it because they don’t know what they’re doing.”

“The economy will crash, and the Persian people will overthrow these guys just like they overthrew the shah,” he added.

Earlier Friday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the United States would “rescue” demonstrators if Iran “shots and violently kills peaceful protesters.”

Iran has seen its largest protests unfold since 2022 in recent days, according to The Hill. The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights reported that at least 29 demonstrators had been detained, while the semiofficial Fars News Agency said three protesters were killed and 17 others injured during an attack on a police station, the publication added.

FROM BUSINESSMAN MURDER TO WORLD CUP HOST: IS MEXICO SAFE FOR THE WORLD?

FROM BUSINESSMAN MURDER TO WORLD CUP HOST: IS MEXICO SAFE FOR SOUTH AFRICA AND THE WORLD? ⚽

A shocking killing in Mexico has reignited global fears about safety ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mexican businessman Alberto Prieto was brutally assassinated after allegedly refusing to pay a protection fee demanded by criminal cartels.

Prieto was attacked while driving his Lamborghini Urus, which was sprayed with more than 200 bullets in a calculated and ruthless execution. The attack was not just meant to kill — it was meant to send a warning to anyone who dares defy organised crime.

What is happening in Mexico?

Mexico continues to battle deeply entrenched cartel violence. Criminal syndicates control territories, extort businesses, and target those who refuse to comply. Entrepreneurs, shop owners, transport operators, and even professionals are often forced to pay “protection money” to survive. When they refuse, violence follows — publicly and mercilessly.

Despite ongoing security operations, cartel power remains strong in several regions, raising concerns about everyday safety for locals and visitors alike.

Why this matters for the World Cup

Mexico is set to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, welcoming millions of fans, teams, and officials from around the globe. Countries like South Africa, hoping to qualify, could soon be sending players, staff, journalists, and supporters into this environment.

This killing has sparked serious questions:

Can Mexico guarantee the safety of visiting teams and fans?

Will players and supporters be protected beyond stadium walls?

Are authorities truly in control of cartel-dominated areas?

Possible impact on the tournament

Heavy security presence in host cities

Restricted movement for fans and teams

Increased international scrutiny and pressure

Concerns from football associations, sponsors, and broadcasters

What must be done now

Strong, visible security operations around World Cup venues

International intelligence cooperation

Targeted action against cartel networks near host cities

Clear safety assurances to all participating nations

Football brings the world together — but it cannot thrive in fear. The killing of Alberto Prieto is a stark reminder that the road to the World Cup is not just about stadiums and matches, but about human lives and real security.

⚠️ The world is coming. Mexico must prove it is ready.

FBI has announced that it disrupted a “potential terrorist attack” planned for New Year’s Eve

The FBI has announced that it disrupted a “potential terrorist attack” planned for New Year’s Eve at a grocery store and a fast-food restaurant in North Carolina.

Authorities said the suspect, 18-year-old Christian Sturdivant of Mint Hill, North Carolina, was directly inspired by the Islamic State group. He was arrested on December 31 and charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

According to prosecutors, Sturdivant planned to carry out the attack using hammers and knives at a grocery store and a nearby restaurant in Mint Hill.

“It was a very well-planned, thoughtful attack,” officials said, adding that innocent lives would likely have been lost if the plot had not been disrupted.

The FBI said the operation undoubtedly saved lives, noting that the suspect had pledged loyalty to the Islamic State group and intended to carry out the attack as an act of jihad.

Authorities revealed that Sturdivant had been on the FBI’s radar since 2022, when he was still a minor. At the time, he had communicated online with an individual believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State group, who allegedly encouraged him to attack neighbors with a hammer. Although he left his home dressed in black and carrying a hammer, family members intervened before any harm occurred.

Following that incident, Sturdivant reportedly underwent psychiatric care, his access to social media was restricted, and weapons in the home were secured. No charges were filed at the time.

Investigators said the New Year’s Eve plot was uncovered after Sturdivant made contact with two undercover law enforcement officers posing as Islamic State supporters. During the conversations, he allegedly shared detailed plans for the attack.

A search of his residence reportedly uncovered hammers and knives hidden under his bed, along with written notes outlining the planned assault.

Officials said the suspect acted alone but believed he was working with other Islamic State supporters online and had requested assistance in obtaining additional weapons. He was described as highly active on social media platforms, where investigators believe he became self-radicalized.

“This investigation highlights the very real threat posed by individuals who self-radicalize online,” the FBI said.

The charge against Sturdivant carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

iShowSpeed EXPOSES the Truth in South Africa, SHATTERS “White Genocide” Claims and PROVES TRUMP WRONG After Seeing the Reality on the Ground

After finally setting foot in South Africa, global internet sensation iShowSpeed experienced the country for himself — and what he saw on the ground directly contradicted the alarming narratives often pushed by some foreign politicians and commentators, including Donald Trump, about so-called “white genocide”.

During his visit to Cape Town and Johannesburg, Speed was openly surprised by the racial diversity and social integration he witnessed everywhere he went. In sports venues, restaurants, shopping areas and public spaces, he saw Black, White, Coloured and Indian South Africans interacting freely, laughing together, watching sports together and enjoying everyday life side by side.

In Cape Town, iShowSpeed met with the Mayor, where discussions touched on the city, tourism, youth culture and South Africa’s global image. After the meeting and moving around the city, Speed spoke positively about the country, expressing admiration for the hospitality, vibrant culture and the mix of people he encountered.

As his tour continued into Johannesburg, the same reality followed him — mixed communities, shared spaces and ordinary people just living their lives. This firsthand experience left Speed shocked, especially considering the extreme picture often painted overseas. His reactions made it clear: the reality on the ground does not match the fear-based claims repeatedly shared by Trump and others abroad.

Speed’s visit did not deny that South Africa faces serious challenges — crime, inequality and economic pressure are real issues. But what his trip highlighted is that manufactured racial panic and claims of racial extermination do not reflect everyday South African life.

From Cape Town to Johannesburg, his unfiltered reactions told a powerful story:

Different races attending and enjoying sports together

Restaurants filled with mixed groups of friends and families

https://youtu.be/qP9K12o0ER8?si=XGx-GhQ-7ypPJ1N9

Coloured and Indian communities thriving alongside Black and White South Africans

A society far more complex, diverse and connected than foreign headlines suggest

Sometimes the loudest myths collapse not through politics, but through one honest visit, real people, and lived experience. iShowSpeed came, he saw, and the narrative changed.

Pretoria Farmer Overpowered, Tied to a Tree and Robbed on His Own Land – How Many More Farm Attacks Before Rural Communities Are Properly Protected?

🚨 Pretoria Farmer Overpowered, Tied to a Tree and Robbed on His Own Land – How Many More Farm Attacks Before Rural Communities Are Properly Protected?

A disturbing attack on a farmer outside Pretoria has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of people living and working in rural areas.

According to police, the incident happened on a smallholding on the outskirts of the city when the farmer agreed to meet a man who claimed to be interested in buying the property. What was supposed to be a routine property viewing quickly turned into a violent crime.

The suspect allegedly took advantage of the farmer’s trust, overpowered him, stole his personal belongings, tied him to a tree, and escaped. The farmer was left helpless on his own land until help arrived. Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and no further details about the suspect or vehicle have been released at this stage.

❗ FARM ATTACKS CONTINUE

This attack is not an isolated incident. Farmers across South Africa continue to face robberies, assaults, and violent crimes, often in remote areas where police response times are slow. Criminals increasingly use deception, posing as buyers, workers, or service providers to gain access to farms.

Farmers are among the most vulnerable communities, yet they play a critical role in feeding the nation, creating jobs, supporting rural economies, and contributing to food security not only in South Africa but across parts of the African continent.

❓ WHO IS PROTECTING FARMERS?

How many more farmers must be attacked before rural safety is taken seriously? Where are the specialised rural safety units? Why are criminals able to target farms with such ease?

Protecting farmers is not a political issue — it is a national security and food security issue. When farmers are unsafe, food production is threatened, prices rise, and the entire country feels the impact.

📢 CALL FOR ACTION

Authorities are urged to strengthen rural policing, improve intelligence, and ensure visible patrols in farming areas. Communities are also encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activity.

Anyone with information related to this attack is urged to contact SAPS.

Farmers deserve protection. Enough is enough.

2026 banned words list has been released and it’s bad news for gen-z and millenials

You’re probably thinking what on Earth is a ‘banished words list’ and why has it been an annual thing for half a century?

Well, Lake Superior State University (LSSU) in Michigan, US, took what started as a ‘whimsical New Year’s Eve party idea in 1976’ to a yearly reflection on slang words ‘that wear out their welcome’.

LSSU say they have ‘carried the torch’ ever since former public relations director W.T. (Bill) Rabe showcased the first ‘List of Words Banished from the Queen’s English because of mis-, mal-, over-use, or general uselessness’.

After over 1,400 submissions were sent in, the university compiled their top 10 list of the most popular annoying words used in 2025.

Here is LSSU’s 50th annual ‘banished words list’ and if you’ve got kids, you can probably guess the top one.

We’ve all seen those mad AI videos of Cristiano Ronaldo shouting ‘6-7’ without knowing what it actually means.

Apparently, it originated from a song called ‘Doot Doot (6,7)’ by American rapper Skrilla.

“There are six or seven reasons why this phrase needs to be stopped,” one participant said.

Demure
Demure means to be intentionally low key or classy online.

“She didn’t argue, didn’t brag, just showed up and won. Very demure,” is an example of it being used on social media.

However, a second person said overuse ‘waters down the real meaning’, used to describe someone who is reserved, modest and shy.

Cooked
If you’re cooked, you’re essentially out of options, or losing badly – a phrase used not only on TikTok but during a bit of sports trash talk.

A third observer suggests to ban ‘all forms of the word cook’.

Massive
Massive is perhaps something millennials – born from 1981 to 1996 – still say, and personally speaking, use all the time.

“Way overused! (often incorrectly),” a fourth thought.

Incentivise
“What’s wrong with motivate?” a fifth person asked, as the word appears to be used online as a verb, rather than a noun.

Full stop
We all need full stops, but actually saying ‘full stop’ to end a sentence appears to get on people’s nerves, as it’s ‘redundant punctuation’.

Perfect
Perfect is the kind of thing you say in an email to an important client, but don’t actually mean.

“There are very few instances when the word actually applies,” a sixth participant pointed out.

“How do they know it’s perfect…what does that mean?” another added.

Gift/gifted
“I found this on the 1994 list, but it will make me feel better to recommend that it be included once again,”an eighth person explains, adding that it’s another case of a noun being used as a verb.

My bad
Not only does ‘my bad’ sound very American, it does immediately scream 90s rom com apology.

Reach out
“What started as a phrase with emotional support overtones has now become absurdly overused,” someone else said.

IG model Celina Powell posts video of her in b3d with rapper Offset knocked out

American Instagram model, Celina Powell, has taken to her page to share a video of her in bed with rapper Offset, completely knocked out.

She also went on to insinuate that they allegedly recorded an explicit tape together.

“made a tape last night & all u heard was him in the video lol offset you sleepy boy @celinagonewild,” Celina captioned her post.

This is not the first time Celina has made claims about Offset.

In 2017, she alleged that he fathered a child with her. This was when the rapper was still with Cardi B. She later admitted that she lied about the whole thing during a conversation with DJ Akademiks.

Later in 2021, she also alleged that he offered her $50K to get an abortion, which Cardi B herself clapped back at.

50 Cent responds to Will Smith’s shocking harassment lawsuit

50 Cent is one of many expressing shock over this lawsuit against Will Smith from a former tour violinist for alleged wrongful termination.
50 Cent is a massive troll, and previous instances prove that he’s not afraid of joking about fellow massive celebrities like Will Smith.

However, when news broke of sexual harassment and wrongful termination allegations against Smith in a new lawsuit from Brian King Joseph, he instead showed support for the actor and musician.

Via Instagram, Fif shared a screenshot of a news report about former tour violinist Brian King Joseph’s lawsuit against the Fresh Prince. In his caption, he offered a wild reaction and expressed that he was looking forward to possibly working with Smith in the future.

“WTF is going on, I got a movie I want will for, this fool just mad he got fired,” the G-Unit mogul captioned his post. Amid other 50 Cent drama happening online, he found a break to react to this bombshell lawsuit. We’ll see how it continues to develop.

That other drama relates to 50 Cent’s beefs with other big names in hip-hop, the entertainment business, and beyond. For New York rap heads, the big story is about his feud with Fabolous, Jim Jones, Maino, and Dave East, which continues to garner interest. Other recent targets include Papoose, Dame Dash, and of course, Diddy.

Why Is Will Smith Being Sued?

For those unaware, Brian King Joseph’s lawsuit against Will Smith accuses the Philadelphia native of sexual harassment and wrongful termination. Will’s company Treyball Studios Management is also a part of this legal pursuit.

Joseph was reportedly a violinist for Smith’s “Based On A True Story” tour and alleged a specific incident when returning to his Las Vegas hotel room in March. He allegedly found a sexual note along with wipes, someone else’s HIV medication, and more. “Brian, I’ll be back no later [sic] 5:30, just us [drawn heart],” the note from “Stone F” allegedly read.

When Joseph allegedly reported this to hotel and tour staff, the latter booted him three days later. The lawsuit alleges that tour management justified this as “moving in a different direction,” whereas he claims this was retaliatory for reporting the incident.

Also, the violinist’s allegations accuse Will Smith of “grooming and priming [him] for sexual exploitation” since they met in 2024. They allegedly spent more time together alone before the tour, and Smith allegedly told him, “You and I have such a special connection, that I don’t have with anyone else.”

Brian King Joseph reportedly seeks personal and financial damages. Will Smith has reportedly not responded to these allegations at press time.

NASON MSONI EXPRESSES WORRY ABOUT STATE OF TONSE ALLIANCE

Tonse Alliance no longer represent the idea of a potent movement that was envisaged to unseat the UPND

PF wrangles have overshadowed the Tonse Alliance movement and rendered it into a stillborn political grouping.

The APC has previously participated in many other political alliances but the Tonse experience is not inspiring to say the least.

A political Alliance cannot be held to ransom by one political party.

We therefore give notice to you our colleagues that the
APC will soon be holding an emergency meeting to review its further participation in the Tonse alliance and decide on the way forward.

There is no time for further procrastination in the new year.

Political events are more likely to precipitate very quickly and we don’t have the luxury of time of sitting and watching political wrangles.

Zambians are looking for political leaders who are not driven by
Personal egos or the insatiable appetite for political power.

We will not be mere political spectators in a game of leadership.

Ideally by putting on-hold our own political ambitions is not a sign of weakness but patriotism.

Augustine Mwewa, has urged Catholics in Zambia to safeguard their voters’ cards in preparation for the upcoming general elections, encouraging them to use their votes as a form of protest against the recent summoning of Archbishop Alick Banda by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

Fr. Mwewa, who serves as the president of the Local Catholic Clergy in Zambia, expressed that the action against the Archbishop represents a hostile move by the UPND administration, which he accused of ‘declaring war’ on Catholics.

He criticized the government’s tactics, which he referred to as ‘mingalato’, aimed at suppressing dissenting voices.

Fr. Mwewa emphasized that Catholics should not succumb to intimidation and lamented the government’s stance, stating, “It is a pity the government has chosen to declare war against the Catholic Church,” asserting that the current administration’s performance deserves a mere one out of ten since taking office in 2021.

He remarked that the government’s failure to accept divergent opinions stems from its lackluster performance, countering its claims of success.

Furthermore, he cautioned that the government might resort to using cyber laws against Christians, yet urged them to remain steadfast in their beliefs and actions, underscoring the importance of voicing their grievances through the electoral process.

Kalaba stands with Bishop Banda over dubious Hilux gift

Kalaba stands with Bishop Banda over dubious Hilux gift

OPPOSITION Citizens First (CF) president Harry Kalaba who has strong roots in the PF says his party will stand in solidarity with anti-government Lusaka Diocese Archbishop Alick Banda.

The opposition clergyman is due to appear for interrogations before the Drug Enforcement Commission on Monday over a Toyota Hilux he dubiously received from the  fallen PF while in power.

Although DEC grabbed the Hilux from Bishop Banda back in 2023, the commission announced yesterday that they had few  questions for him on Monday.

The commission urged the Bishop not to create drama and report to headquarters alone.

But Kalaba who feels the Bishop needs company come Monday.

Despite having no parliamentary or local government representation, Kalaba who emerged third in the 2021 elections with slightly over 24,000 votes announced that; “The CF stands with ArchBishop Alick Banda and the Catholic Church and will escort His Grace to the DEC on Monday”.

Besides Kalaba, Socialist Party leader Dr Fred M’membe has also indicated that he will walk with Bishop Banda on Monday and has since urged Catholics and Zambians  of good will to do the same.

WHY IS PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA GOING AFTER ARCHBISHOP ALICK BANDA?- Brian Matambo

WHY IS PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA GOING AFTER ARCHBISHOP ALICK BANDA?

By Brian Matambo | Lusaka, Zambia

In a nation that proclaims itself Christian, there are moments when law, power, and conscience collide so loudly that silence becomes impossible. Zambia is standing in such a moment.

The summoning of Lusaka Archbishop Dr. Alick Banda by the Drug Enforcement Commission has triggered questions that no procedural statement can dismiss. The issue is no longer whether the State has the legal authority to summon a citizen. It is whether the State understands the moral, historical, and political weight of the citizen it has chosen to summon, and the moment it has chosen to do so.

The question Zambians are now asking is simple, unsettling, and unavoidable. Why Archbishop Alick Banda?

Is it because he officiated at the funeral service of late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, offering dignity where the State had offered hostility? Is it because the Lungu family, in their moment of deepest grief, chose Archbishop Banda as their representative in mediation talks, while government appointed Bishop Joshua Banda to sit on the opposite side? Is it because Archbishop Banda has emerged, quietly but firmly, as a voice of reason in a season where reason itself has become inconvenient?

Or is it because this regime finds moral clarity acutely discomforting?

The State insists the matter is purely legal. That a motor vehicle once belonging to the Zambia Revenue Authority found its way to the Archbishop, and that questions must therefore be asked. Yet even within the factual record now circulating publicly, the narrative is far less sensational than the accusations suggest. Investigations into the disposal of ZRA vehicles were conducted by a Joint Investigations Team comprising multiple agencies. That process resulted in the arrest and prosecution of two former ZRA officials, Kingsley Chanda and Callistus Kaoma, for failure to follow procedure in the disposal of 22 vehicles.

What is conspicuously absent from the court record is any finding that Archbishop Alick Banda stole, solicited, or unlawfully acquired a motor vehicle. Evidence presented in court shows that when the Archbishop learned that the Toyota Hilux associated with him was under investigation, he surrendered it voluntarily to the Joint Investigations Team. The vehicle was not recovered from him.

It was handed over by him. It was later produced in court as an exhibit in the case against the ZRA officials. No charge was laid against the Archbishop. No offence was attributed to him. If there had been evidence of criminality, the prosecution would have had every opportunity to add his name to the charge sheet. It did not.

This is why the current summons feels less like due process and more like insistence. As if the State is determined to extract something that has already been examined, testified to, and judicially concluded. As if explanation itself is now the offence.

Context matters. History matters. Memory matters.

Not long ago, a senior official of the ruling party publicly labelled Archbishop Banda “the Lucifer of Zambia”. It was a statement so incendiary, so reckless, that it should have attracted immediate condemnation and discipline from the highest office in the land. Instead, the response was silence. Worse still, the silence felt like approval. When private citizens attempted to pursue legal redress for hate speech and criminal defamation, the process was swiftly halted. The insult stood. The wound festered.

Zambians did not forget.

They also did not forget that when civil society and the Oasis Forum sought to oppose the controversial Bill 7, the Catholic Church was deliberately isolated and vilified, its clergy paraded as political villains, its bishops reduced to unnamed enemies of the State. Ministers were deployed to disparage the Church. It felt, to many observers, like a forced ultimatum. Choose the President, or choose your faith.

Now add to this a record that troubles the conscience of the nation. A government that sued a widow on the very day she was meant to bury her husband, because the President insisted that he alone should preside over the burial of his political nemesis. A government whose leader once dismissed the National Day of Prayer and Reconciliation as irrelevant, while his own ministers derided it as a gathering of wilful sinners. A government that has held the former first family in mourning for seven months, not out of necessity, but out of ego and control.

These are not the actions of humility. They are the habits of power unrestrained by reverence.

It is therefore deeply ironic that those who defend this posture dare to accuse a Catholic Archbishop of Luciferian tendencies. If the term has any meaning at all, it describes pride that exalts itself above all else. It describes power that refuses accountability. It describes authority that weaponises institutions to silence moral resistance.

In Christian theology, those who suffer for speaking truth do not wear the mark of evil. They carry the cost of the Gospel.

Archbishop Alick Banda has not called for insurrection. He has not mobilised violence. He has not abused office. He has spoken, presided, mediated, and prayed. If that makes him a threat, then the problem is not the Bishop. It is the State.

Zambia’s democracy was never meant to be a courtroom without conscience. It was meant to be a covenant between law, reason, and faith. When any one of these is crushed under the weight of ego, the nation begins to fracture.

This moment demands restraint. It demands wisdom. It demands that power remember it is temporary, while faith endures.

A Christian nation is not measured by how loudly leaders invoke God at commemorations, but by how carefully they treat His servants when those servants become inconvenient.

Zambia must choose reason over vendetta, democracy over intimidation, and faith over fear.

SEVEN MONTHS OF AN OPEN GRAVE : A NATION IN SPIRITUAL LIMBO

SEVEN MONTHS OF AN OPEN GRAVE : A NATION IN SPIRITUAL LIMBO

By Thandiwe Ketiš Ngoma

It has been nearly seven months since Zambia lost its sixth Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Upon hearing of his passing, the incumbent President, Hakainde Hichilema, reportedly instructed that a grave for his predecessor be dug before even consulting the family on the burial arrangements.

When the Lungu family communicated the deceased’s wishes, that he did not want his predecessor to preside over his funeral or be near his remains, President Hichilema refused to respect them. Instead, he insisted that he would preside over the funeral.

Faced with the impossibility of honoring their loved one’s wishes, the family decided to bury Edgar Chagwa Lungu in South Africa, where he had sought specialized medical treatment and later died.

In response, President Hichilema reportedly sued the grieving family in a South African court. Nearly seven months later, the case remains unresolved, leaving the nation with what can only be described as an open grave, a spiritual and moral concern that extends far beyond politics.

THE SPIRITUAL MEANING OF AN OPEN GRAVE FOR A NATION

The symbolism of an open grave has profound implications for any country. Drawing from Biblical theology and African traditional spirituality, an open grave is not superstition. It is a reflection of unresolved moral and spiritual disorder.

I. Biblical and Christian Perspective

In Scripture, a grave is not merely a burial place. It represents justice, memory, and closure. When a grave remains open, it is a spiritual warning.

An Open Grave Represents Unrepented Sin

“Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they speak deceit.” (Psalm 5:9, Romans 3:13) For a nation, this means leaders may speak righteousness while practicing injustice, institutions may appear lawful but conceal cruelty, and truth may be buried while lies remain exposed. An open grave spiritually signals sin that has not been confessed or corrected, especially by those in authority.

It Symbolizes Blood Crying from the Ground

Genesis recounts, “The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground.” This applies beyond physical killing to oppression, denial of dignity, and deliberate harm. Unresolved injustice causes unrest, instability, and national disquiet.

Leaders Who Dig Graves Fall Into Them

“Whoever digs a pit will fall into it.” (Proverbs 26:27) Power used to suppress others eventually backfires, manifesting as loss of moral authority, political reversals, or leadership collapse.

An Open Grave Blocks National Blessing

“When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you.” (Isaiah 1:15) Without justice, even effort and prayer fail to produce prosperity. Economic stagnation, citizen despair, and repeated crises are often the spiritual reflection of unresolved moral debts.

II. African Traditional Spirituality Perspective

In African cosmology, graves are gateways between the living, the dead, and the unborn. Leaving a grave open disrupts national balance and invites misfortune.

An Open Grave Means Disturbed Balance

The ancestors are unsettled, the land becomes restless, leadership loses legitimacy, and misfortune repeats across generations. An unjust or dishonored death pollutes the land until it is addressed.

It Invites Reversal of Power

“The ground you open for another remembers your footsteps.” Leaders who humiliate or deny mercy to others invite humiliation and instability upon themselves. Authority gained without compassion is fragile.

An Open Grave Is a Debt, Not a Curse

This is moral, not magical. Until the debt is acknowledged and paid through truth, reconciliation, and restoration of dignity, consequences manifest socially, politically, and spiritually.

III. The Spiritual Remedy for a Nation

Both Biblical and African traditions point to the same solution. Closure requires moral courage.

Truth Before Healing – The nation must honestly confront wrongdoing.
Justice Tempered With Mercy – Laws and authority should protect, not oppress.
Restoration of Dignity – Even rivals or opponents deserve humane treatment.
Public Humility by Leadership – Healing begins when leaders admit excesses and respect national conscience.

FINAL WARNING AND HOPE

An open grave is not fate. It is a warning. It signals that injustice cannot be buried quietly. It invites the nation to restore moral and spiritual balance through humility, truth, and reconciliation.

History, Scripture, and African wisdom converge on this principle:

The earth does not forget how it was disturbed. And the grave dug for another always remembers its digger.

For Zambia, seven months of an open grave is more than a delay in burial. It is a reflection of unresolved leadership decisions, unhealed national wounds, and spiritual unrest. Until moral order is restored, the open grave continues to cast a shadow over the nation.

Currency Shift in the Copper Economy

🇿🇲 CONTEXT | Currency Shift in the Copper Economy

Zambia has quietly taken a consequential step in the management of its mineral revenues. For the first time, mining tax payments are now being received in the Chinese yuan, signalling a shift in how the country settles and stores value from its most important export sector.

The Bank of Zambia has confirmed that, beginning October 2025, Chinese mining firms operating in the country started paying mining taxes in Renminbi rather than US dollars. Until now, the standard arrangement since 2018 required mining companies to sell US dollars to the central bank, which would then remit the kwacha equivalent to the Zambia Revenue Authority. That framework covered mineral royalties introduced in 2018 and other mining-related taxes rolled out in 2020.

At a surface level, the change reflects trade reality. China is the dominant destination for Zambia’s copper, and several Chinese mining companies already receive part or all of their export proceeds in yuan. Settling tax obligations in the same currency reduces transaction layers and currency conversion costs for both firms and the state. For the central bank, it also aligns with a broader effort to diversify foreign exchange inflows beyond the US dollar.

Strategically, the move carries deeper financial implications. By accepting taxes in Renminbi, the Bank of Zambia is gradually reshaping the composition of its foreign reserves. The yuan now joins the reserve basket at a time when Zambia is emerging from a prolonged debt restructuring process and remains exposed to external financing pressures. Holding reserves in a currency linked to a major creditor offers flexibility, particularly in servicing Chinese debt, where direct currency alignment can lower exchange rate risk and settlement costs.

The policy shift also fits into a wider diplomatic and economic recalibration. In September 2023, Presidents Hakainde Hichilema and Xi Jinping elevated Zambia–China relations to a Comprehensive Strategic and Cooperative Partnership. Increased use of the yuan in official transactions reflects that upgraded relationship, placing Zambia within a growing group of resource exporters experimenting with non-dollar settlement frameworks in trade with China.

From a market perspective, the implications are incremental rather than disruptive. The US dollar remains dominant in Zambia’s external accounts, especially for fuel imports, debt service to non-Chinese creditors, and broader balance-of-payments management. But the yuan’s entry introduces optionality. It signals to investors and trading partners that Zambia is willing to adapt its financial architecture to the geography of its trade flows rather than rely exclusively on legacy currency structures.

Operationally, the Bank of Zambia has moved to support transparency by publishing the Kwacha–Renminbi exchange rate on its website from mid-November 2025. This provides a reference point for firms, government agencies, and markets as yuan-denominated transactions increase.

Contextually, this is less a dramatic break and more a calibrated adjustment. Zambia is not abandoning the dollar; it is hedging.

For a copper-dependent economy navigating recovery, reserve rebuilding, and geopolitical balance, the acceptance of mining taxes in yuan represents a pragmatic response to where its exports go, who its creditors are, and how it can manage costs in an increasingly multipolar financial system.

WE ARE READY TO WORK WITH GOVERNMENT ON ISSUES AFFECTING OUR PEOPLE – DPP

WE ARE READY TO WORK WITH GOVERNMENT ON ISSUES AFFECTING OUR PEOPLE – DPP

Lusaka… Friday January 2, 2026

Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said it is ready to work with the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) administration by offering solutions aimed at alleviating the suffering of Zambians.

DPP President Antonio Mourinho Mwanza said his party has well-thought-out ideas and practical solutions to challenges currently affecting the country, which it is willing to share with government in the national interest.

He said this when he featured on the “Let the People Talk” programme on Radio Phoenix in Lusaka earlier today.

Mr. Mwanza acknowledged that the DPP had previously taken a firm stance against cooperating with the UPND, but said the party had since resolved to prioritise the welfare of citizens over political differences.

“We had said very clearly as DPP that we can never cooperate with the UPND, and I said it here on Radio Phoenix. But we are now saying no, we need to work together on issues affecting Zambians and we are ready to work together,” Mr. Mwanza said.

He added that the DPP is prepared to present its proposals for possible implementation by the UPND government.

“We have brilliant solutions and we are ready to put them forward for the UPND to implement them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwanza has urged the government to clearly explain to the public what has led to the reduction in load-shedding hours, noting that conflicting statements from different officials have created confusion.

He said it was important for Zesco Limited to issue a professional and comprehensive statement explaining the reasons behind the increased hours of power supply.

“When we hear Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa speak, when we hear the Vice President Madam Mutale Nalumango speak, and when we hear the Minister of Energy, often they give different reasons as to why load-shedding has reduced. When Zesco speaks, again we hear a different story,” he said.

Mr. Mwanza advised the government to present one clear and consistent explanation to the nation regarding the reduced load-shedding.

He further called on Zesco Limited to address public concerns that electricity units are depleting faster than usual, saying the matter requires urgent clarification to restore public confidence.

DMMU, ZAF Airlift 54 Flood Victims in Lumezi as Rains Displace 127 Households

⬆️ BRIEFING | DMMU, ZAF Airlift 54 Flood Victims in Lumezi as Rains Displace 127 Households

The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), with support from the Zambia Air Force (ZAF), has airlifted 54 people stranded by flooding in Lumezi District, Eastern Province, after the Lundazi River burst its banks and cut off access routes.

The victims, marooned for five days in Kamwala area while carrying out agricultural activities across the river, were evacuated using a ZAF aircraft that made four separate trips. They were safely relocated, along with their belongings, to Chiweza area in Kazembe Ward.

The flooding has also left at least 127 households homeless after heavy rains caused houses to collapse in several parts of the district. Displaced families are currently sheltering at Kazembe Primary School, where DMMU, working with cooperating partners, has begun distributing food and non-food relief items.

Other affected households in Chimalilo, Saili and Bodola villages have been accommodated in temporary shelters within their communities.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the floods originated upstream in Lundazi District, where key infrastructure has reportedly been damaged. Downstream, homes have been destroyed, crop fields washed away, and farmlands buried under heavy silt.

In a show of local solidarity, a Lundazi-based businessman identified as Aliboo has donated 100 by 25-kilogramme bags of mealie meal to support affected families.

DMMU says it continues to monitor the situation closely and is coordinating with line ministries, the Zambia Air Force, and cooperating partners to ensure the safety and welfare of communities affected by the floods.

WEST PROVINCIAL CHAIRMAN MBANGWETA CELEBRATES BY-ELECTION VICTORIES IN LIANGATI, LITAWA, AND MUTONDO WARDS

As the Provincial Chairman, along with my Team at the UPND Secretariat in Western Province, extend our heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Liangati Ward in Senanga Constituency, as well as Litawa and Mutondo Wards respectively in Nalikwanda Constituency, for their support of UPND candidates in the recently concluded by-elections held on 31st December 2025, which were necessitated by the unfortunate passing away  of our sitting Councillors.

These victories serve as a reflection and endorsement of President Hakainde Hichilema’s people-centered leadership, which prioritizes the welfare of our citizens. They also reflect the continuity of support and appreciation for the newly enacted Bill 7, a people driven constitution making process that was misrepresented by some of the President’s usual critics, who sought to mislead the public with false claims regarding the extension of the President’s tenure of office, the removal of the running mate clause, and the 50% +1 voting requirement when in fact not.

In view of the foregoing, i urge the people of Western Province to continue their support and solidarity with President Hichilema, who has demonstrated a tacit commitment to our communities through unprecedented development spread out across all districts—an achievement that starkly contrasts the previous administrations.

Hon Kapelwa Mbangweta

“WHO ARE WE REALLY SERVING?” CHIWENGA TAKES VEILED SWIPE AT ZANU PF ELITE

“WHO ARE WE REALLY SERVING?” CHIWENGA TAKES VEILED SWIPE AT ZANU PF ELITE

Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has ignited fresh political tremors after delivering a blistering call for “ethical leadership” and “clean governance,” urging Zanu PF leaders to reflect on the legacy they are leaving behind. Speaking as Acting President while President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on annual leave, Chiwenga’s remarks come amid an intensifying succession battle within the ruling party.

Addressing mourners at Heroes Acre during the burial of retired Brigadier-General Mathias Tizirai Ngarava, Chiwenga condemned a system that allows a powerful few to accumulate vast wealth while millions of Zimbabweans sink deeper into poverty. His words were widely seen as a thinly veiled attack on the current political order.

Chiwenga reminded party elites that the liberation struggle was never fought to enrich individuals through corruption, nepotism, or tribal favoritism. Instead, he challenged leaders to choose between a legacy of sacrifice, patriotic service, and national purpose or one defined by plunder and self-enrichment.

As tensions simmer within Zanu PF, Chiwenga’s message has set tongues wagging across the political landscape.

Dangote reveals how he wants his wealth to be shared when he is no more

Nigeria’s richest man and Africa’s richest billionaire, Aliko Dangote, has publicly shared how he wants a portion of his fortune to be used once he dies.

Dangote said 25% percent of his wealth should be allocated to the Aliko Dangote Foundation, a charitable organisation he established that supports education, health, economic empowerment, and other social programs across Africa.

This commitment has been formalised with the support of his immediate family — including his mother and children.

The funds aim to scale major initiatives, including an annual education program benefiting millions of students over the next decade, with scholarships, vocational training, and teacher development across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

The Dangote Foundation already funds health, education and community projects.

It also provides annual support to institutions such as the Aliko Dangote School for Orphan Girls in Maiduguri.

His long-term vision frames part of his legacy not just as an industrial titan but as a sustained force for social impact in Africa.

This is the first time the billionaire has spoken about his wealth in public. He made the revelation during a conference in Lagos.

Dangote is not only the richest man in Nigeria and Africa, but also the richest black person in the world, with a $30 billion fortune.

MNANGAGWA’S ‘GOLDEN BOY’ IN THE SPOTLIGHT

MNANGAGWA’S ‘GOLDEN BOY’ IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been thrust into fresh controversy following explosive claims involving his close ally, flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo, a man the President has publicly referred to as his “son”.

Chivayo is facing mounting accusations of looting public funds after allegedly securing a string of massively inflated government tenders across key state institutions.

Critics say Chivayo’s companies have benefited from sweetheart deals linked to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), and the Ministry of Transport, with contracts allegedly awarded at eye-watering prices far above market value. The deals have triggered public outrage in a country battling economic collapse, crumbling infrastructure, and widespread poverty.

Opposition figures and civil society groups accuse the Mnangagwa administration of presiding over a system of patronage, where political proximity opens doors to state coffers.

While government officials deny wrongdoing, the scandal has intensified scrutiny on the President’s inner circle and fuelled growing anger among Zimbabweans who say the nation’s wealth is being siphoned off by the well-connected few.

BOMBSHELL WAR VET VOWS: “MNANGAGWA MUST GO, 2030 PLOT WILL DIE!”

War veterans’ leader and Vice President Chiwenga ally Blessed “Cde Bombshell” Geza has launched a blistering end-of-year broadside, declaring that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s days are numbered and that the much-talked-about 2030 Project is “dead before birth”.

In a fiery message to Zimbabweans at home and abroad, Geza said 2025 had been a year of suffering, truth-telling and political awakening, as corruption deepened and ordinary citizens were pushed to the brink. He accused Mnangagwa and what he called Zvigananda elite looters masquerading as leaders of hijacking the liberation movement to protect stolen wealth and evade accountability.

Geza insisted his stance is driven by duty, not ambition, warning that constitutional manipulation and third-term ambitions threaten the nation’s soul. He revealed he was forced into hiding for speaking out, as war veterans and citizens were arrested for demanding their rights.

But defiant to the end, Cde Bombshell vowed that 2026 would be a turning point, declaring: “Power that fears the end has already failed. Zimbabwe will rise again.”

DStv Saves 12 Popular Channels After Last-Minute Deal

DStv Saves 12 Popular Channels After Last-Minute Deal

DStv has confirmed that 12 popular television channels will remain on its platform after a last-minute deal was struck to prevent their removal at the end of December 2025.

The channels had been scheduled to go off air at midnight on New Year’s Eve before the agreement was finalised.

New Deal Saves Discovery and Warner Bros. Channels
According to Phil Mphela, the eleventh-hour turnaround follows the finalisation of a new multi-year agreement between Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery.

The deal ensures the continued broadcast of channels such as Discovery Channel, TLC, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, CNN International, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, TNT, The Travel Channel, Discovery Family, and Real Time.

Entertainment analyst Phil Mphela confirmed the development on social media, revealing that negotiations were concluded just hours before the previous agreement expired.

HBO Content and Streaming Expansion Planned
Beyond keeping the channels on DStv, the newly signed agreement also opens the door for expanded premium content across the platform. HBO programming will continue airing on M-Net, while plans are underway to introduce the HBO Max streaming service in Africa in 2026, marking a significant expansion of Warner Bros. Discovery’s footprint on the continent.

Not All Channels Spared
Despite the positive news, not every channel avoided removal. Several services linked to Paramount Africa and CBS AMC Networks will still exit the DStv lineup.

CBS AMC Networks confirmed that CBS Reality and CBS Justice were shut down on 31 December 2025, while Bet_Africa, MTV Base Africa, and other affected channels will also no longer be available to subscribers.

Mixed Outcome for Viewers
While the loss of some channels remains a blow for certain audiences, the retention of key international brands offers relief to millions of DStv households heading into 2026, easing fears of a major content blackout.

RUSSIA LAUNCHED 54,000 DRONES, 44,782 GUIDED BOMBS, AND 2,000 MISSILES AT UKRAINE IN 2025

Russia reportedly carried out an enormous aerial campaign against Ukraine throughout 2025.

The figures show 54,000 one-way attack drones, 44,782 guided aerial bombs, and 2,000 missiles launched over the course of the year, reflecting near-constant pressure across Ukrainian airspace and front-line areas.

Ukraine’s air defenses absorbed the brunt of this assault.

The Ukrainian Air Force successfully intercepted approximately 46,000 drones and 1,100 missiles, limiting damage to major population centers, energy infrastructure, and military targets.

While many weapons still reached their targets, interception rates remained high despite sustained saturation attacks.

Ebo Noah Appears Before Court After His Arrest Over Fake Flood Prophecy

As all Ghanaians were planning to enter 2026 with happiness, Ebo Noah was arrested by the Ghana Police on December 31, 2025, for his fake prophecy.

After the Ghana Police arrested self-acclaimed prophet Ebo Noah, who prophesied there would be a global flood, he appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court.

The content creator switched from comic content to religious after he reportedly received a divine vision from God about a Global flood on December 25, 2025.

The Modern-day Noah started cautioning people to prepare to enter his ark before the date above.

His message went viral to the extent that the international media started talking about him in the US and the UK.

A few days before the expected flood, Ebo started saying in his videos that he was interceding for mankind so that the flood would be postponed, but unfortunately, his videos had sunk in the minds of most gullible people, especially kids.

Ghanaians were waiting for a drizzle just to get a sign, but that did not happen because a global weather forecaster disclosed after research that the chance of a flood happening globally is not up to 1%.

People started calling for his arrest, which finally happened.

He appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court, being charged with false communication, intentionally misleading the public, and publishing false information intended to incite fear and panic.

During the first hearing, the accused’s real identity was revealed to be Evans Eshun, but he chose the name “Ebo Noah” to reflect his new genre of content.

Ebo Noah has been remanded into police custody for two weeks, following the adjournment of court proceedings at the Adentan Circuit Court.

The Adenta Circuit Court has also ordered a psychiatric evaluation of the suspect at the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital, before his next appearance in court.

Will Smith sued over sexual harassment allegations by tour violinist Brian King Joseph

Hollywood star Will Smith has been hit with a sexual harassment lawsuit filed in Los Angeles just before the New Year.

According to Fox News, the suit was filed by Brian King Joseph, a professional violinist and former America’s Got Talent finalist, who alleges that the actor and musician deliberately groomed him during Smith’s 2025 music tour.

According to court documents, Joseph said his professional relationship with Smith began after a performance in December 2024 and later extended to Smith’s “Based on a True Story: 2025 Tour.” He claimed the relationship became increasingly personal, with Smith allegedly telling him they shared a “special connection.”

Joseph further alleged that while on tour in Las Vegas, he discovered signs that someone had entered his hotel room without permission. Items reportedly found in the room included a handwritten note addressed to him, personal belongings, and medical-related items belonging to someone else. He said the incident left him distressed and fearful, prompting him to alert hotel security and authorities.

The violinist claimed that instead of receiving support, he was later accused of lying about the incident and was dismissed from the tour. He also alleged that another violinist was quickly hired to replace him.

In the lawsuit, Joseph accused Smith of grooming, emotional distress, loss of income, and reputational harm. He is seeking damages for the alleged impact on his mental health and career.

As of the time of reporting, representatives for Will Smith have not publicly responded to the allegations.

Trump warns Iran the US is ‘locked and loaded’ if Iranian authorities violently ‘violently k!lls protesters’

Donald Trump has warned that the United States military is “ready to go” if Iranian authorities violently kill protesters, as nationwide demonstrations in Iran enter their fifth day.

The protests were sparked by rising living costs and a collapsing currency. At least five people have reportedly been killed during clashes with security forces, who have responded with tear gas and live ammunition.

Trump issued the warning on his Truth Social platform, writing: “If Iran shots [sic] and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Demonstrators in several cities have called for an end to the rule of Iran’s supreme leadership, with some openly demanding the return of the monarchy. Videos circulating online show crowds marching through Tehran chanting “Rest in peace Reza Shah,” a reference to the founder of Iran’s former royal dynasty overthrown in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The unrest has been described by some commentators as Iran’s “Tiananmen moment,” with protests breaking out across the country. Observers say the scale is the largest since demonstrations erupted after the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody in 2022, when authorities imposed internet shutdowns and violently suppressed dissent.

In an effort to curb the unrest, schools, universities, and other public institutions were closed on Wednesday. Heavy police deployment has been reported around Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, where the protests are believed to have started. Arrests have also been reported in multiple locations.

Protests have spread beyond the capital to cities including Isfahan, Yazd, Zanjan, and Fasa, where footage showed demonstrators attacking a government building.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday, December 30, that he had instructed the government to listen to the “legitimate demands” of protesters. A government spokesperson added that a dialogue mechanism would be created to engage with leaders of the protest movement.

Despite these assurances, tensions remain high as international attention grows over how Iranian authorities will respond in the coming days.

Benjamin Netanyahu announces ‘New Front’ to protect Christian communities facing persecution in Nigeria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that Israel will open a “new front” focused on protecting Christian communities in parts of Africa and the Middle East, including Nigeria.

Netanyahu disclosed this in his New Year’s message published on his official YouTube channel.

Speaking to an audience of Christian Zionists, Netanyahu said Israel was expanding its engagement beyond military confrontations to address growing global threats to Judeo-Christian values.

He also stated that Israel recently fought a “seven-front war” and emerged largely victorious, adding that an additional challenge had now arisen.

According to him, the new front is centred on influencing public opinion, particularly among young people, which he described as a battle for “hearts and minds.”

“I see the battle against us and the battle against our Judeo-Christian tradition basically being waged around the globe,” he said.

Netanyahu identified “radical Shiite Islam and radical Sunni Islam” as the main forces waging that battle, pointing to Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood as leading what he described as opposing axes.

He asserted that Israel was unique in protecting Christian communities and ensuring their growth and safety.

The PM further announced that Israel was joining efforts to establish a coalition of countries, similar to a United Nations (UN) framework, to support Christian communities worldwide, particularly those under threat.

“I see the battle against us and the battle against our Judeo-Christian tradition, basically being waged around the globe. And it’s waged primarily by two forces — radical Shiite Islam and radical Sunni Islam,” he said.

“That means the axis that is led by Iran, much battered, admittedly, but still there, and the Sunni axis led by the Muslim Brotherhood, which permeates everything.

“They go to Europe, the United States, Africa and Nigeria. And we are conscious of the fact that Christians are being persecuted — across the Middle East, in Syria, in Lebanon, in Nigeria, in Turkey and beyond.”

The Israeli leader described the gesture as payback.

“Just as you are helping us, we want to help back, and we’re capable of doing this. In Africa, with intel, in the Middle East, with a lot of means that I won’t itemise.

“This is what our agenda is; it’s a main part of our agenda,” he explained.

British Star, Lily Philips, Baptised After Sl3££ping with 3000+ Men, With 1,113 in 12 Hours As Her Last Challenge

Lily Philips announced her retirement from the adult film industry after being baptised in late 2025.

The English OF content creator is known for her daring stunts in her content, her unique perspective on the industry she is in, and what she aimed to achieve before venturing out.

She recently disclosed that at age eleven she started watching that content on the internet, so despite her parent owning a successful cleaning company, Lily had already decided her future as she was studying nutrition at the University of Sheiifield.

Philips had a huge presence on Instagram during her university days, and as someone who used to get intimate with her colleagues for free, she decided to monetize her “talent” by creating an OF account.

The numbers kept increasing, but the money she wanted was not trickling in, so she finally got gigs to feature in movies in the adult industry, where she shot explicit content.

In 2024, the actress announced her intention to sleep with 100 men as prelims towards her 1000 men challenge in her quest to break her colleague, Bonnie Blue’s record.

The 100 men were quite hectic, according to her interview after the shoot, but as a go-getter, she was willing to prepare and go for gold.

A news was circulating in the latter middle of 2025 that Lily had carried out her challenge and surpassed her goal by finishing 1,113 in 12 hours. She interacted with each for 39 seconds.

After being intimate with approximately 3000 men, Lily Phillips has decided to get baptised due to her newly found faith.

The video of her getting baptized has caused a massive uproar, with the majority of the criticisms coming from men. They claim women can’t keep leveraging religion as their retirement plan after “exploring” the world and expect people to forget their past, even though it will be on the internet forever.

Some believers are also saying Lily should be pampered in order not to push her away into her previous actions again.

German government has promised to increase the number of deportations in 2026

The German government has promised to increase the number of deportations in 2026, but so far, deportation attempts are often thwarted, and new asylum applications are only increasing.

More than a year after the end of the civil war in Syria, over half a million refugees have returned home from Turkey alone.

In Germany, however, the number of asylum applications continues to rise, while deportations have not increased.

In a policy document from the CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, lawmakers called for deportations to be carried out via regular flights, including to Syria and Afghanistan.

In practice, deportations are often disrupted if the individuals resist or go into hiding on the day of removal. Experts are calling for stricter measures from lawmakers, as well as additional programs to make voluntary return more attractive.

Since the end of 2024, Turkey has reported roughly 550,000 departures of Syrian citizens, while Germany recorded nearly 25,000 new asylum applications from Syrians in 2025 alone.

China’s BYD Is About to Overtake Tesla for the First Time Globally

🇨🇳 China’s BYD Is About to Overtake Tesla for the First Time Globally

China’s BYD is set to overtake Tesla as the world’s top pure EV seller for the first time, selling about 2.25 million EVs compared to Tesla’s 1.65 million.

Western media will focus on BYD’s slowing growth at home in China and frame it as weakness, but that misses the true story entirely.

China’s EV market is brutally competitive, when growth slows, it’s not stagnation, it’s saturation and optimisation. Dozens of capable domestic rivals, insane price pressure and rapid tech cycles. This is what a mature industrial ecosystem looks like.

What actually stands out is where the growth is coming from:
• Europe
• Southeast Asia
• Latin America
• Africa
• The UK (BYD’s biggest overseas market, up 880%)

All while facing tariffs, political pressure and active exclusion from the US market.

Meanwhile, Tesla has pivoted away from affordable EVs toward AI, robotaxis and humanoids, with Elon Musk juggling politics, X, SpaceX and Washington. Investors are noticing and sales are starting to slip.

Step back and see the big picture, things become even clearer:
China is on track to become the world’s largest auto seller overall, overtaking Japan, not just in EVs, but across the entire industry.

This isn’t about one company winning, it’s about scale, supply chains, pricing power and industrial strategy.

For years we were told Chinese cars couldn’t compete, but now the debate has quietly shifted to whether anyone ekse can catch up.

The uncomfortable truth for legacy automakers is this: China isn’t copying anymore, it’s setting the pace and many cannot keep up.

How long do you think Western brands can maintain premium pricing once Chinese EVs are everywhere?

NEED A MISSILE? IRAN WILL SELL YOU ONE FOR BITCOIN

🇮🇷 NEED A MISSILE? IRAN WILL SELL YOU ONE FOR BITCOIN

Iran just opened up its weapons shop to anyone with enough digital cash, offering everything from killer drones to warships.

No banks, no questions, just crypto or a trade deal.

There’s even a chatbot to help you pick the right product like it’s Amazon for warfare.

The site lists missiles already used by Iran-backed groups and offers in-person inspections if you get past security.

It’s all part of a bigger plan to dodge US and European sanctions while doing business with 35 countries.

The move comes as other sanctioned states like Russia also turn to crypto to keep money flowing under the radar.

Iran’s already been caught using it to sell oil and fund shadowy banking networks linked to its military. Now it’s just doing it louder.

Western governments are not amused, especially with nuclear talks dead and tensions rising.

But Iran’s arms business is booming, and crypto just became its new favorite loophole.
