Witchcraft Is Not Defence For Murder – Court

Witchcraft Is Not Defence For Murder – Court
By Dickson Jere

A man in Kasempa died a sudden death after consuming alcohol the previous day. It was widely believed in the village that he was killed by witchcraft. So, on his burial day, his coffin was smeared with white powder and some concoctions in a tradition practice called “Kikondo” widely practiced in Northwestern province.

The coffin – it is believed – led the pallbearers to the houses of people responsible for his death. The crowd joined and meted out mob  justice on two defenseless people in their houses and killed them instantly. They later buried the body after finishing the Kikondo practice.

However, two ring leaders were arrested and charged with murder. They were tried and found guilty of murder in the High Court and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Unsatisfied, they appealed against the sentence saying the life imprisonment was harsh as they were “extenuating circumstances” that led to them killing the two suspected witches.

They argued that they believed the two practiced witchcraft and therefore should be killed as per Kikondo tradition. Therefore, the Court should have exercised leniency as belief in witchcraft is “defence” in Zambia for murder cases.

A full bench of the Supreme Court heard the case.

The Judges agreed that in the past, the belief in witchcraft in Zambia, was taken as “extenuating” in murder cases, which led to lighter sentences.

But should that continue?

“It is undeniable that a belief in witchcraft has been deeply entrenched in the Zambian psyche,” the Court noted.

“Perceived witches have in many of our communities been treated with untold violence and rough justice. Many of those accused of witchcraft have been ostracized by their families and communities, subjected to life  threatening assaults, dehumanized…” the Judges observed.

Therefore, the Supreme Court, decided to change the law and held that those arrested for murder can no longer use the belief of witchcraft as “extenuating” factors to get lesser sentences.

“We are convinced that it is now right to depart from those precedents,” the Judges said.

“There is absolute need to protect victims of witchcraft accusations from unprovable allegations leading invariably to multiple violations of their rights, and in some cases death,” the Court ruled.

The Judges noted that elderly members of society have been victims of brutal murder on suspicion of being witches and yet the Witchcraft Act of Zambia proscribes naming of people as witches.

In this case, the Supreme Court replaced the life imprisonment with death as the appropriate punishment for the offenders. (Death sentence has since been abolished in Zambia).

Lecture Notes;

1. In this case, the Supreme Court changed the law, which accepted the belief of witchcraft as extenuating circumstances. The Court observed that it is legally and scientifically difficult to prove belief in witchcraft as evidence unlike provocation or intoxication, which are part of the defences of murder.

2. So this is warning for those involved in the practice of Kikondo.,once arrested, you will no longer plead the belief of witchcraft like in the past. The law has changed. Stop that primitive KIKONDO!!!

Shock as Nigerian Fisherman Catches Rare Blue Marlin Reportedly Worth $2.6 Million — But Instead of Selling the Multi-Million Catch, He and His Entire Village Cooked and Ate It Together

Shock as Nigerian Fisherman Catches Rare Blue Marlin Reportedly Worth $2.6 Million — But Instead of Selling the Multi-Million Catch, He and His Entire Village Cooked and Ate It Together

A fisherman from Nigeria has gone viral on social media after reportedly catching a massive Blue Marlin, one of the most valuable and sought-after fish in the world. According to reports shared online, a fish of that size could fetch as much as $2.6 million (over R48 million) in international seafood and sport-fishing markets.

However, what shocked many people is what happened next.

Instead of selling the rare catch for millions, the fisherman and people from his village reportedly decided to share the fish among themselves and eat it together as part of a community celebration.

In many coastal communities in Africa, fishing is deeply rooted in culture and tradition, and large catches are often seen as a blessing meant to be shared. Villagers gathered as the enormous fish was cut into pieces and prepared for cooking, turning the moment into a celebration for the entire community.

The story quickly spread online, with many people reacting in disbelief, saying the village “ate millions of dollars.” Others defended the decision, saying community, tradition, and sharing food can sometimes be valued more than money.

While the true market value of the fish depends on many factors, the story has sparked debate across social media about culture, wealth, and what people value most.

Would you have sold the fish for millions — or shared it with your village?

Body of 8-Year-Old Black Girl Found in a Suitcase, Her Mom Faces Murder Charges

Mila Chatman, an 8-year-old African American girl from Cleveland, Ohio, was found buried in a suitcase alongside her half-sister. Authorities have arrested their mother, Aliyah Henderson, 28, who now faces charges of aggravated murder.

Henderson is charged with two counts of aggravated murder after the bodies of Mila and 10-year-old Amor Wilson were discovered in shallow graves in Collinwood. Both girls were placed in separate suitcases, and the official cause of death is still pending.

The father, who asked to remain anonymous, said he felt powerless for years. He shared photos and videos showing Mila’s bright, joyful personality. He said he had spent six years trying to gain custody but was repeatedly blocked, and his requests to involve Child Protective Services went unanswered, according to Fox 8.

“I just feel useless. I couldn’t save my daughter,” he said, recalling the last time he saw Mila four years ago. He believes her death could have been prevented if he had been allowed more access.

Both fathers of the girls tried to gain custody over the years. Mila’s father said Henderson often left the children and did not cooperate. He hopes DNA results will soon provide more answers, but said he already feels the heartbreak of losing Mila.

Authorities continue investigating the case as the community mourns the loss of two young lives. A growing memorial near the site of the discovery shows how deeply the deaths have affected friends, family, and neighbors.

Husband Accused of K!ll!ng His Wife, Says He Didn’t Like Her

Justin Martez Seals, a 39-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama, is accused of setting his paraplegic wife’s home on fire because he did not like her, killing 32-year-old Mekayla Rembert. Prosecutors say the blaze was deliberate and planned.

Rembert was found dead inside the charred garage of their property in December 2025. She lived in the detached garage and was pronounced dead at the scene around 9 p.m. Seals now faces a capital murder charge, according to the Daily Mail.

Investigators said Seals used gasoline or another accelerant to start the fire while Rembert was inside. He later told police he was at a local store during the blaze and did not know it was happening. However, store employees said Seals had mentioned fire and gasoline, saying, “My girl is dead.”

Neighbors and family reported that Seals and Rembert frequently argued and that he did not like her. One neighbor saw him “screaming and hollering,” claiming his daughter was trapped in the garage. Fire investigators found burn marks in the bedroom and near the front door, evidence that the fire was set intentionally.

Seals’ attorneys argued that no one saw him start the fire and that he tried to save his wife. Public Defender Lauren Presley said he was distraught and acted to help, not harm. Prosecutors maintain he is responsible for Rembert’s death.

Rembert’s death was officially ruled a homicide. Her case has now been sent to a grand jury for possible indictment. Family members remembered her as a loving mother and a kind person.

Putin Pressures Trump as Iran War May End Soon

Putin Pressures Trump as Iran War May End Soon

Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly increasing pressure on U.S. President Donald Trump to bring the escalating conflict in the Middle East to an end.

Diplomatic signals from Moscow suggest the Kremlin is pushing Washington toward de-escalation as tensions with Iran threaten global energy routes and wider regional stability. Analysts say Russia’s growing influence in the crisis could force the United States to reconsider its military posture.

With the Strait of Hormuz crisis disrupting global shipping and energy markets, observers believe the mounting geopolitical pressure may accelerate efforts to end the war.

After a recent phone call between Putin and Trump, the U.S. president signaled that the war could end soon, raising expectations that diplomatic negotiations may begin in the coming days.

Brazil’s President Lula Warns President Ramaphosa That Weak Defence Preparedness Could Expose South Africa to Future Invasion Risks

Brazil’s President Lula Warns President Ramaphosa That Weak Defence Preparedness Could Expose South Africa to Future Invasion Risk

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has reportedly warned President Cyril Ramaphosa that countries which fail to strengthen their defence systems may leave themselves vulnerable to future security threats, including the possibility of foreign invasion or external interference.

The warning came during discussions between the two leaders as South Africa and Brazil continue to deepen cooperation within the BRICS partnership, where security, economic stability, and global power shifts are increasingly being debated.

President Lula is believed to have stressed that in today’s changing global environment, nations must invest in strong defence capabilities, modern military equipment, and strategic alliances to protect their sovereignty and national interests.

Brazil itself has been strengthening its defence sector and regional influence in South America, while also promoting greater cooperation among Global South nations, including those in the BRICS bloc.

For South Africa, the conversation highlights ongoing concerns about the state of the country’s defence readiness, as analysts have previously warned about budget constraints affecting the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and its ability to modernise equipment and maintain operational capacity.

Some experts argue that stronger defence cooperation between BRICS nations such as Brazil, South Africa, Russia, India, and China could play an important role in ensuring security and stability in an increasingly unpredictable world.

Shock in Africa: Madagascar’s Military President Dissolves Entire Government Overnight

Shock in Africa: Madagascar’s Military President Dissolves Entire Government Overnight, Leaving Nation and African Union Watching Closely

A dramatic political development has unfolded in Madagascar, after military leader Michael Randrianirina suddenly dissolved the entire government in an unexpected move.

The decision reportedly removed Prime Minister Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo along with the full cabinet. No detailed explanation was immediately provided for the sweeping action, which has raised many questions both inside the country and internationally.

According to reports, senior government officials known as permanent secretaries will temporarily run daily state operations while the process of appointing a new prime minister begins.

Madagascar has been facing growing political pressure in recent months. Youth-led demonstrations have been reported in several areas, with many citizens demanding better transparency, economic reforms, and action on shortages affecting daily life.

The situation has also attracted attention from the African Union, which previously suspended Madagascar following the military takeover in 2025. The military leadership had promised that elections could be held within the next 18 to 24 months.

Political analysts say dissolving the government could signal internal tensions within the administration or an attempt by the military leadership to reset the political system while preparing for future elections.

Hundreds of Iranian Missile Launchers Wiped Out but 150 Still Active as US and Israel Intensify Hunt

Breaking News : Hundreds of Iranian Missile Launchers Wiped Out but 150 Still Active as US and Israel Intensify Hunt

The United States and Israel have destroyed hundreds of Iranian ballistic missile launchers during ongoing military operations, but Iran still retains a significant number capable of launching strikes. According to defense assessments, Iran originally possessed around 460 ballistic missile launchers, and despite sustained air strikes and intelligence operations, roughly 150 launchers remain operational, meaning nearly 30 percent of the original force is still active.

US and Israeli air forces have maintained continuous operations targeting missile infrastructure across Iran. With effective air dominance, the coalition has conducted extensive reconnaissance and strike missions aimed specifically at eliminating Iran’s ability to launch ballistic missiles. However, despite advanced surveillance capabilities including satellites, drones, reconnaissance aircraft, and dozens of fighter jets operating over Iranian territory, locating and destroying mobile missile launchers has proven extremely difficult.

The remaining launchers are often concealed in tunnels or underground facilities. Iranian forces are reportedly attempting to clear debris from these tunnel systems to restore launch capabilities, while Israeli forces continue targeting the sites to prevent the systems from being brought back online. The destruction of command centers, headquarters, storage facilities, launch sites, and senior commanders has already significantly disrupted Iran’s missile operations.

Israeli military leadership has indicated that the campaign to neutralize Iran’s missile launch capability could continue for up to a month, warning that ending operations too early might allow Tehran to rebuild its missile forces quickly with possible assistance from countries such as China and North Korea.

Despite heavy losses, Iran continues launching ballistic missiles not only toward Israel but also toward countries in the Gulf region. However, the pace of these attacks has slowed considerably compared to earlier stages of the conflict.

Data released by the United Arab Emirates shows that about 238 Iranian ballistic missiles had been launched toward the UAE by March 8, with the highest daily count reaching 17 missiles in a single day.

Military analysts note that destroying the remaining launchers may actually take longer than the first phase of the campaign. Iran appears to have adapted its tactics after losing a large portion of its launch systems and command infrastructure, making the remaining launchers harder to locate and strike.

50 Cent Teases Docuseries on T.I. and Tiny Harris’ Previous S3xu@l Assault Allegations

Rapper 50 Cent hinted he may be working on a new documentary about T.I. and Tiny Harris, focusing on sexual abuse allegations against the couple. He teased the project on Instagram while referencing his previous work on the Diddy docuseries.

In a recent Instagram post, 50 Cent shared a headline suggesting he’s developing a docuseries about T.I. and Tiny. The couple has faced accusations from over 30 women and one man, who claim they were drugged, intimidated, and sexually assaulted.

“You might want to talk to a crisis PR person,” he wrote, seemingly warning T.I. that the project could complicate any promotional work he has planned.

According to Complex, the allegations first gained attention in 2021 when Sabrina Peterson said T.I. threatened her with a gun during a 2009 incident. Soon after, dozens of other people came forward with similar claims. T.I. and Tiny have denied all accusations.

50 Cent and T.I. have a long-standing feud that dates back to 2007, when 50 Cent called T.I. a “snitch.” Over the years, they’ve exchanged online insults, and T.I. once proposed a VERZUZ battle that 50 Cent declined. Recently, T.I. released diss tracks while 50 Cent teased new music, but has not responded directly.

In recent years, 50 Cent has focused on television, producing the hit series Power and its spin-offs. He also executive-produced Netflix’s Sean Combs: The Reckoning, a docuseries about sexual misconduct claims. His latest project suggests he may be applying the same approach to T.I. and Tiny.

Trump Forces Cuba’s Communists to the Table: Deal Offers Castro Clan a Soft Landing

Trump Forces Cuba’s Communists to the Table: Deal Offers Castro Clan a Soft Landing

President Trump is turning up the heat on Cuba’s crumbling regime, pushing for an economic lifeline that could finally end decades of communist stranglehold.

According to The Telegraph, the administration is negotiating a major package that includes an “off-ramp” for the Castro family and current president Miguel Díaz-Canel. They step down from power without facing exile or prosecution, allowed to stay on the island as the island shifts toward freedom.

This comes after Trump repeatedly declared the regime “at the end of the line” with no money, no oil, and a collapsing economy. He has assigned Secretary of State Marco Rubio to lead high-level talks, signaling serious intent after Venezuela’s regime fell.

The deal would likely ease restrictions on travel, tourism, ports, and energy, injecting much-needed cash while demanding real democratic reforms. No more propping up dictators with American dollars or remittances.

For 67 years, the Castros have starved their people under socialism. Trump is offering a path out, but only if they surrender control. If they refuse, the pressure only intensifies.

Cuba’s liberation could be closer than ever. America First means ending tyranny in our backyard, not coddling it.

Jesse Jackson’s son blasts Barack Obama, Biden for using father’s memorial to take shots at Trump

0

Jesse Jackson Jr., the son of the recently deceased activist and civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, has slammed former Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton over how they remembered Reverend Jackson in their speeches at his memorial.

During Friday’s service at Chicago’s House of Hope, Obama warned about the state of the nation, calling each day a “new assault on our democratic institutions.”

“Each day, we’re told by those in high office to fear each other and to turn on each other, and that some Americans count more than others, and that some don’t even count at all,” the former president said.

“Everywhere we see greed and bigotry, being celebrated and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength. It’s hard to hope in those moments.”

Biden also claimed the Trump administration doesn’t share “any of the values that we have.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris, defeated by Trump during the 2024 election, bragged she “predicted a lot about what’s happening right now” during her remarks.
“I’m not into saying I told you so, but we did see it coming,” Harris said.
“But what I did not predict is that we would not have Jesse Jackson with us right now to help us get through this.”

Clinton, who kept his eulogy mostly free of politics, remembered Jackson warmly as a good friend.

However, Jesse Jackson Jr. the son of the late Civil Rights leader, seemed to disapprove of how the three presidents remembered Jackson.

“ I listened for several hours to three United States presidents who do not know Jesse Jackson,” the grieving son said during a private memorial service at Rainbow Push Coalition headquarters in Chicago.

“He maintained a tense relationship with the political order, not because the presidents were white or black, but the demands of our message, the demands of speaking for the least of these – those who are disinherited, the damned, the dispossessed, the disrespected – demanded not Democratic or Republican solutions, but demanded a consistent, prophetic voice that at no point in time ever sold us out as people.

“And it speaks volumes about who the Rev. Jesse Jackson was.”

Jackson died at 84 last month at his Chicago home.

Prison Guard who found Epstein de@d in cell received mystery payments

The prison guard who discovered Jeffrey Epstein’s body in his jail cell had googled the billionaire p@edophile just minutes before finding him d£ad when she delivered his breakfast.

Tova Noel was one of two workers at New York’s Metropolitan Correction Center who faced criminal charges for fabricating records to show they had checked Epstein the night before he had d!ed.

Newly released documents show that Noel received a mystery payment just days before the disgraced financier took his own life in his cell.

On the night she was meant to be checking on Epstein every 30 minutes, Noel, 37, reportedly slept on the job, browsed furniture online and even searched “latest on Epstein in jail” less than an hour before the s£x offender “committed su!cide” in August 2019.

Noel searched “latest on Epstein in jail” and clicked on an article about documents related to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, her newly released search history reveals.

She also searched for the latest information on Omar Amanat – a film producer convicted of wire fraud and conspiracy in 2017 – who was locked up alongside Epstein at the time of his d£ath.

Her colleague, Michael Thomas, shopped for motorbikes during the night shift.

Charges against both prison workers were dropped after the pair agreed to complete 100 hours of community service and cooperate with a Department Of Justice investigation.

Noel insisted during a Department of Justice interview in 2021 that she had no recollection of looking up Epstein that night.

However files show that the prison officer had received a series of 7 cash payments from December 2018 totalling more than $11,000.

A total of 12 transactions from April of that year were flagged as “suspicious” by Chase Bank in a report submitted to the FBI, New York Post reported.

The largest of these was a $5,000 lump sum paid on July 30, 2019.

Noel, who drove a $62,000 2019 Land Rover Range Rover, wasn’t asked about the cash during her DOJ interview, files also showed.

Noel was also stated in a released FBI document as likely to be the “mysterious orange shape” pictured on CCTV footage at 10.40pm near Epstein’s cell the night before his d£ath.

The correctional officer denied claims she had brought linen or clothing to the Special Housing Unit where Epstein was held, and insisted she had no idea why the p@edophile had extra sheets in his cell

A 2023 Justice Department report said there was no evidence of homicide but cited serious negligence and failures by prison staff.

Lionel Messi earns over $70 million per year at Inter Maimi

Global football icon Lionel Messi is reportedly earning as much as $80 million per year at Inter Miami.

Jorge Mas, co-owner of Inter Miami, recently revealed in an interview with Bloomberg, “We pay Messi between $70 million and $80 million per year.”

Mas explained the scale of the deal ,saying, “Players are expensive. I pay Messi, worth every penny, but it’s $70 million to $80 million a year. Across everything.”

According to the MLS Players’ Association, Messi’s base salary is $12 million, with guaranteed compensation listed at $20.45 million.

That figure makes him the highest‑paid player in Major League Soccer, ahead of LAFC’s Son Heung‑min ($11.15 million) and his Miami teammate Sergio Busquets ($8.75 million), who retired last season.

Messi’s contract with Inter Miami goes far beyond salary. His deal includes a percentage of ownership in the club, which has grown sharply in value since his arrival. Miami was valued at about $585 million in 2023, but Forbes now places the franchise at $1.35 billion.

The equity portion of Messi’s agreement is believed to add at least $60 million annually to his earnings, depending on the team’s rising valuation. His contract runs through the 2028‑29 season, and sources have said his ownership stake will activate once he retires.

Barcelona legend Xavi reveals why he will never return to club amid row with president Joan Laporta

Former Barcelona head coach Xavi has revealed why he will never return to the club amid a row with president Joan Laporta, whom he accused of blocking Lionel Messi from making a hero’s return to the club over fears of a power struggle.

In an interview with La Vanguardia, Xavi opened up about the breakdown in his relationship with the club’s president and revealed details of a failed plan to bring back club legend and former team-mate Messi in 2023.

‘The president is lying about what happened with Messi,’ Xavi said. ‘Leo was signed. In January of 2023, I contacted him after he won the World Cup, and he told me he was excited about coming back. We talked until March, and I told him, “When you give me the OK, I’ll tell the president.”

‘We had the green light from La Liga, but Laporta threw everything out. He told me, verbatim, that if Messi came back, he was going to wage war against him and that he couldn’t allow it.

‘I tried to talk to Leo and he wouldn’t answer the phone. I spoke to his father (Jorge Messi) and told him I didn’t understand anything, and he said, “Talk to the president.” It was all set, it was going to be his “last dance,” like Michael Jordan, everything was ready.

‘I’m never going back to Barca. I’ve already done my time as a player and coach. Now I just want to tell the truth. Messi didn’t come to Barca because Laporta didn’t want him. It’s a lie that his father asked for more or that La Liga didn’t want him. Laporta has all the power at the club, and he knew that Messi would manage that power for him.’

Xavi also claimed that financial constraints contributed to his team’s poor performances during his time.

A request to bring in Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad was rejected, with the midfielder later joining Arsenal for £55million.

During the interview, Xavi also accused Laporta of being influenced by his former brother-in-law, Alejandro Echevarria, whom he claims holds real power at Barcelona.

‘Laporta convinced me to stay when I had said in January I was leaving. He told me: “I don’t see the team without you.”

‘The president got rid of me without telling me the truth, conditioned by a person who is above him, who is Alejandro Echevarría. That’s to say, who really got rid of me as coach is Alejandro.

‘He (Echevarria) has more power than Laporta; he betrayed me.’

Xavi’s comments come ahead of this week’s presidential election, in which Laporta is aiming to be re-elected. Club members will head to the polls on Sunday to choose between him and Victor Font.

Laporta has since fired back at Xavi’s comments, claiming the Barcelona legend has been left embittered by the fact that his successor, Hansi Flick, has been more successful.

‘When I see what Xavi has said, I think about Hansi Flick,’ Laporta told RAC1. ‘Being Barca president is a tough job and you have to make difficult decisions. I did what I had to do.

‘With Xavi, I saw that we were going to lose and that with Flick we were going to win. I understand that he’s hurting. With the same players, Flick is winning.

‘As for Messi, this is how it was: In 2023, I was told Messi wanted to return, and I sent the contract to Jorge Messi, who later came to my house and told me that there would be too much pressure back here and that they would prefer to go to Miami.’

Ukraine Offers Drone-for-Missile Deal: Zelenskyy Proposes Swapping Interceptor Drones for Patriot Missiles

Breaking News : Ukraine Offers Drone-for-Missile Deal: Zelenskyy Proposes Swapping Interceptor Drones for Patriot Missiles

Ukraine has proposed an unusual defense exchange with its international partners, offering domestically developed interceptor drones in return for additional Patriot air defense missiles, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Speaking about Ukraine’s urgent air defense requirements, Zelenskyy said the country is prepared to provide its combat-tested drone interception technology to allies that are facing threats from Iranian-made Shahed loitering munitions. In return, Kyiv hopes to secure more Patriot missile interceptors, which are critical for defending Ukrainian cities against Russian ballistic missile attacks.

Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine’s interceptor drones have been developed and refined during the war and are specifically designed to destroy Shahed-type attack drones. These relatively low-cost systems are intended to provide an efficient way to counter large swarms of drones that would otherwise require expensive missile interceptors.

According to the Ukrainian president, the proposal is simple. Ukraine would supply interceptor drones and the technology behind them to interested countries while receiving Patriot missile interceptors that Ukraine urgently needs but cannot manufacture domestically.

The Patriot system remains one of the few air defense platforms capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, making it one of the most valuable defensive assets for Ukraine as Russia continues to launch long-range missile strikes.

Zelenskyy also noted that several countries, particularly in the Middle East, have expressed interest in Ukraine’s experience and technology for countering Iranian-designed Shahed drones. Nations such as Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are reportedly seeking effective solutions to defend against similar drone threats.

Ukraine has already demonstrated its willingness to support partners facing these challenges. Following a request from the United States, Kyiv recently deployed interceptor drones and a team of Ukrainian specialists to Jordan to help strengthen the protection of U.S. military bases from potential drone attacks.
However, Ukraine currently has a wartime restriction on weapons exports that was introduced after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Any potential exchange or transfer of interceptor drones would therefore require regulatory adjustments or special government approval.

Ukrainian defense manufacturers say they have the capacity to produce interceptor drones in large numbers without affecting Ukraine’s own defense needs. These drones are significantly cheaper than traditional missile interceptors, which can cost several million dollars per Patriot missile.

The proposal reflects Ukraine’s growing defense technology sector and its attempt to leverage combat-proven innovations to secure the advanced air defense systems it urgently needs to protect its cities and infrastructure from continued missile attacks.

China’s Quiet Strategy Could Neutralize US F-35 Jets Without Firing a Single Missile

Breaking News: China’s Quiet Strategy Could Neutralize US F-35 Jets Without Firing a Single Missile

While global attention remains focused on conflicts in the Middle East and the possibility of a US confrontation with Iran, analysts say a far larger strategic shift may be unfolding quietly in Beijing. China has unveiled a sweeping long-term plan that could influence the balance of global military power for decades, potentially affecting advanced American weapons systems such as the F-35 stealth fighter.

The strategy is outlined in China’s 141-page 15th Five-Year Plan, presented during the National People’s Congress on March 5. The document goes far beyond standard economic policy and lays out an ambitious roadmap for technological dominance across industries expected to define future military and economic power. According to analysts, the blueprint reads less like routine planning and more like a national technological mobilization effort designed to secure leadership in next-generation technologies.

At the center of the plan is a massive push into emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, quantum communications, nuclear fusion research, and brain-computer interface systems. Beijing intends to embed AI across large parts of its economy over the next decade while expanding industrial capacity in humanoid robotics, a sector Chinese planners expect to double production within five years.

But the strategy’s most powerful leverage may lie in something far less futuristic: rare-earth minerals. China dominates the global supply chain for these critical materials, which are essential for advanced electronics, radar systems, sensors, magnets, and guidance technologies used in modern weapons. Beijing has recently expanded export control rules covering rare-earth elements, introducing licensing requirements and compliance measures that give the country greater influence over global supply.

This dominance matters greatly for Western defense programs. Modern military platforms, including the F-35 stealth fighter, rely heavily on rare-earth materials to function. These elements are used in radar systems, targeting lasers, electronic warfare equipment, and other high-tech components essential to advanced combat aircraft and precision weapons.

Because China controls a major portion of the world’s rare-earth production and processing, analysts warn that export restrictions or supply disruptions could potentially slow or complicate the production and maintenance of Western military systems. In that sense, Beijing’s leverage over critical materials could influence advanced US weapons programs without the need for direct military confrontation.

The broader Chinese strategy therefore spans far beyond traditional military competition. By investing heavily in emerging technologies while simultaneously tightening control over critical materials and supply chains, Beijing appears to be building long-term structural advantages in both economic and defense sectors.

Analysts say the real significance of the plan lies in its long horizon. While current global headlines track missile strikes, sanctions, and troop deployments, China’s approach focuses on shaping the technological and industrial foundations that will determine military power in the decades ahead.

35-year-old rapper set to be Nepal’s new Prime Minister

Balendra Shah, a rapper turned politician, is set to become Nepal’s next prime minister after his party won by an unprecedented margin.

Shah, known widely as Balen, and his Rastriya Swatantra party (RSP) secured a rare landslide victory in the first election since youth-led protests during which dozens were k!lled and the former government was toppled.

“It is the victory of hope and change,” said Ramesh Paudyal, a senior RSP leader. “It is the most beautiful endorsement of the gen Z movement. The true tribute to the gen Z martyrs will be expressed through the work carried out every day by the government led by Balendra Shah.”

The public anger at the political old guard was evident in the results, with veteran parties and their leaders losing vast numbers of seats.

Balen’s RSP, which was formed only three years ago by a former TV executive, was handed a rare outright majority.

The election was considered one of the most significant and gripping in years, pitting the heavyweights who have dominated Nepal’s politics for decades against a younger generation pledging to end corruption and bring about a fresh start for the country.

Despite being relatively new to politics, Shah, 35, had been seen as the frontrunner, running a dynamic campaign that tapped into the hunger for change, particularly among young Nepalis.

An engineer by training, Shah rose to fame as a rapper whose tracks took aim at poverty, unemployment and corruption. In 2022, he pivoted to public office, running independently to become the mayor of Kathmandu. After winning a strong majority, he began the mammoth task of cleaning up the city, including removing unauthorised buildings and sorting out rubbish.

The youth uprising in September last year elevated Shah to national prominence.

After protests suddenly erupted, sparked by a ban on social media but driven by a larger frustration at lack of opportunities, the government hit back with force and 19 protesters were k!lled.

The uprising spiralled into wider unrest and arson attacks that left 70 d£ad, and resulted in the resignation of the government led by the four-time prime minister KP Sharma Oli and his veteran Communist party.

The speed at which the government was toppled left many in the movement in shock. Shah was the favoured choice by the gen Z protest leaders to become interim prime minister, but he declined and instead chose to wait to run until formal elections were held on 5 March.

Shah contested directly against 74-year-old Oli. The rapper’s overwhelming victory was finally declared on Saturday night, March 7, by 68,348 votes to 18,724 for Oli.

As he conceded victory, the former prime minister said he wished Shah an “uninterrupted five-year term, heartfelt best wishes”.

Arriving to pick up his certificate of election in his signature dark sunglasses and black blaze

r, Shah emerged from the sunroof of his vehicle and held up a banner bearing the words: “Congratulations to all of you, this is your victory.”

There was much jubilance at Shah’s win.

“One of the main factors behind the gen Z movement, KP Oli, has been defeated. It feels like justice has been delivered to the martyrs,” said Aditya Karna, 23. “Now there is an expectation that Balen will lead the country toward a better future.”

Eight men who filmed themselves gang-r@ping 18-year-old girl in a hotel are jailed for 73 years

Eight men who filmed themselves gang-r@ping an 18-year-old British girl in a hotel in Spain have been jailed for a total of 73 years.

Seven Frenchmen and one Swiss man recorded their vile attack and shared pictures and videos of it on social media.

Two of the men were staying in the BH Mallorca Resort hotel and lured the ‘semi-conscious’ woman to room 108 after plying her with alcohol on August 14, 2023, the prosecutor’s office previously said.

The two men then invited a group of strangers from the corridor to follow them into the hotel for ‘free s£x’ around 7.30am, local media previously reported.

They then undressed the woman and r@ped her for half an hour, ‘taking advantage of the secluded room to which they had led her’, according to prosecutors.

‘They performed various sexual acts on her, acting in concert and without the young woman’s consent,’ prosecutors told the court, Ultima Hora said.

In videos of the various degrading s£x acts they committed against their victim shared on Snapchat, vile comments were being made by the men watching the assaults and egging on the others.

‘She lets us touch her; we’re going to have some fun today,’ one said. Another said ‘There are four of us and a cow.’

The defendants boasted of their actions ‘with the clear intention of humiliating and violating the victim’s privacy’, prosecutors said.

The woman finally managed to flee the room after the attacks and alerted local police with the help of hotel staff, telling them she had woken up surrounded by young men holding mobile phones.

The Civil Guard opened the investigation after receiving reports of the appalling attack and arrested the men. Police found one of them still had 14 videos on his phone of the brutal attack which lasted a total duration of 170 seconds, nearly three minutes.

Another had a further five recorded on his phone, and a third had two more. The videos showed the men had been ‘enjoying themselves and laughing’ during the brutal rape, police previously said.

Aliko Dangote has retained his position as Africa’s richest person with an estimated fortune of $28.5 billion

Africa’s richest individuals significantly expanded their fortunes over the past year, with the continent’s billionaires collectively adding more than $20 billion to their wealth, according to the latest ranking released by Forbes.

The 2026 list shows that the combined net worth of Africa’s 23 billionaires has risen to $126.7 billion, marking a 21 per cent increase compared with 2025. The growth was largely driven by stronger equity markets across the continent and improved currency stability in several African economies.

Aliko Dangote retained his position as Africa’s richest person with an estimated fortune of $28.5 billion. His wealth increased significantly following a surge in shares of Dangote Cement after the company reported record profits in 2025.

South African luxury goods billionaire Johann Rupert ranked second with an estimated net worth of $16.1 billion. Nigerian entrepreneur Abdulsamad Rabiu moved into third place after recording the largest gain among the continent’s billionaires. His fortune rose by 120 per cent to $11.2 billion, driven mainly by the strong performance of shares in BUA Cement.

Other prominent billionaires on the list include Nicky Oppenheimer and his family with $10.6 billion, Egyptian businessman Nassef Sawiris with $9.6 billion, and Nigerian telecom and oil magnate Mike Adenuga with $6.5 billion.

The ranking also features Egyptian telecom investor Naguib Sawiris, South African mining entrepreneur Patrice Motsepe, and Egyptian industrialist Mohamed Mansour.

Other individuals included on the list are South African banker Michiel Le Roux, media investor Koos Bekker, Algerian industrialist Issad Rebrab, and South African investment executive Jannie Mouton.

Tanzanian entrepreneur Mohammed Dewji and Zimbabwean telecoms magnate Strive Masiyiwa also appear on the ranking, alongside South African retail investor Christoffel Wiese.

Egyptian businessmen Youssef Mansour and Yasseen Mansour are also listed, as well as Moroccan banker Othman Benjelloun and Moroccan politician and businessman Aziz Akhannouch.

The ranking further includes Egyptian businessman Samih Sawiris, Nigerian investor Femi Otedola and Moroccan real estate developer Anas Sefrioui. Nigeria maintained a strong presence on the list with four billionaires, Dangote, Rabiu, Adenuga and Otedola.

According to Forbes, 14 of the 23 billionaires are self-made entrepreneurs, while none of the individuals on the list are women. South Africa leads the ranking with seven billionaires, followed by Egypt with five, Nigeria with four and Morocco with three.

Forbes said the increase in wealth among Africa’s richest individuals reflects improving investor confidence across major African markets and stronger regional currencies over the past year.

PAKISTAN’S NAVY GOES TO WAR MODE OVER IRAN’S TANKER ATTACKS

PAKISTAN’S NAVY GOES TO WAR MODE OVER IRAN’S TANKER ATTACKS

Pakistan has launched Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr. Warships are now actively escorting merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

The move comes after Iranian attacks cut tanker traffic by roughly 70%, choking the critical energy corridor Pakistan depends on

The country imports more than 80% of its oil from the Gulf. Last week’s 20% fuel price spike has already triggered long queues at stations across major cities.

The crisis isn’t staying contained. A separate clip shows a UAE F-16 shooting down an Iranian Shahed drone right over Dubai’s Al Mamzar Beach. UAE authorities report 117 drones detected in their airspace in recent days, turning civilian coastlines into accidental front lines.

Trump Declares Victory in Sight: Iran War ‘Very Complete’ and Way Ahead of Schedule

President Trump told CBS News today that the U.S. military campaign against Iran is effectively over, calling it “very complete, pretty much.” He pointed out that Iran has lost its navy, air force, and communications systems entirely, leaving the regime crippled and unable to fight back effectively.

Speaking from his Doral golf club in Florida, Trump stressed the operation is far ahead of his original 4-to-5-week timeline. “We’re very far ahead of schedule,” he said, signaling a swift and decisive American triumph with minimal prolonged engagement.

This comes as joint U.S.-Israeli strikes have devastated Iranian capabilities, forcing the mullahs into a corner. The president made clear further aggression from Tehran would be met with overwhelming force, but the endgame looks close.

Strong leadership is delivering results: Iran weakened, American interests protected, and the path cleared for a freer Middle East. No endless wars—just victory.

“I Woke Up and My Gate Was Gone”: South African Homeowner Left Shocked After Alleged Thieves Remove Entire Front Gate Overnight, Highlighting Growing Scrap Metal Theft Problem in Communities

“I Woke Up and My Gate Was Gone”: South African Homeowner Left Shocked After Alleged Thieves Remove Entire Front Gate Overnight, Highlighting Growing Scrap Metal Theft Problem in Communities

A South African homeowner was left shocked and frustrated after waking up early in the morning to discover that her entire front gate had disappeared overnight, leaving the entrance to her property completely open.

The woman, known on social media as Baby Pana, shared a photo showing the two gate pillars still standing while the metal gate that normally secures the entrance had been completely removed. According to her post, she discovered the situation around 5 a.m., prompting her to share the image online with a message expressing disbelief at what had happened.

The post quickly went viral on social media, drawing thousands of reactions and comments from South Africans. Many people expressed sympathy, saying incidents like this show how bold criminals have become in some areas. Others reacted with humor and memes, joking that thieves are now stealing entire gates instead of smaller items.

However, behind the jokes, many South Africans pointed out a serious issue — scrap metal theft, which has become a growing problem in many communities. Criminals often target metal gates, cables, infrastructure, and other metal objects because they can sell them to scrap dealers for quick cash.

Residents say these types of thefts usually happen late at night or in the early hours of the morning, when most people are asleep, leaving homeowners shocked when they wake up to find parts of their property missing.

Some social media users also questioned how criminals were able to remove such a large item without being noticed, while others suggested that communities should strengthen neighbourhood watch programs and security measures to prevent similar incidents.

Later updates suggested that the homeowner managed to fix or reinstall the gate, but the incident continues to spark conversations about crime, poverty, and unemployment, which many believe contribute to such thefts.

Putin Says Russia Ready to Supply Europe With Oil and Gas as Middle East War Disrupts Global Shipping

Global Energy Shock? Putin Says Russia Ready to Supply Europe With Oil and Gas as Middle East War Disrupts Global Shipping

A major shift in global energy politics may be unfolding as Vladimir Putin announced that Russia could be ready to supply oil and natural gas to Europe under certain conditions if the current conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran continues to disrupt global energy routes.

The growing war tensions in the Middle East have reportedly affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most critical energy corridors in the world. Nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply normally passes through this narrow waterway, meaning any disruption can quickly shake global markets.

Energy analysts warn that if shipments through the strait remain blocked or restricted, the world could face serious shortages and rapidly rising fuel prices.

Speaking on the situation, Putin suggested that Russia has the capacity to help stabilize the energy market by increasing oil and gas exports to European countries that may face shortages due to the crisis.

This development is significant because in recent years many European nations tried to reduce their reliance on Russian energy following geopolitical tensions and sanctions linked to the conflict in Ukraine.

However, with global supply routes under pressure and oil prices climbing, some experts say Europe may be forced to reconsider its energy options if the crisis continues.

The situation highlights how conflicts in the Middle East can quickly impact the entire world economy. When the Strait of Hormuz is threatened, it doesn’t just affect the region — it can influence fuel prices, inflation, and economic stability across the globe.

For countries like South Africa and many others that depend heavily on imported fuel, such global disruptions could eventually lead to higher petrol prices and increased cost of living.

Munir Zulu has announced that he will contest the Lusaka Central parliamentary seat

BARELY a week after being released from prison, former Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu has announced that he will contest the Lusaka Central parliamentary seat currently held by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe.

Mr Zulu, who lost the Lumezi seat after being jailed last May, told Crown Television that one of the reasons he wants to contest the Lusaka Central seat is to teach the incumbent a “political lesson”.

“It’s a confirmation that I will be vying for the Lusaka Central seat to challenge Mulambo Haimbe in particular, for so many reasons I cannot explain,” the outspoken 38-year-old said.

With less than six months before the general elections, Mr Zulu said he will soon launch his campaigns as he seeks to wrestle the seat from Mr Haimbe, a State Counsel.

“I will be launching my campaign for Lusaka Central in the next few days because Lumezi gave it to me. I have never lost an election. They grabbed it from me, so now I want to go for Mulambo Haimbe and teach him politics,” Mr Zulu said.

In 2021, Mr Zulu, who stood as an independent candidate in Lumezi, won the seat with 11,929 votes against his closest rival, Patriotic Front’s Pilila Jere, who garnered 10,471 votes, while the United Party for National Development’s Macdonald Phiri came third with 4,386 votes.

Mr Zulu was released from jail on Saturday after serving an 18-month prison sentence for seditious practices.

He had concurrently served a one-year jail term for libel and another nine-month suspended sentence, also for seditious practices.

Meanwhile, Balwin Phiri, popularly known as BJ, has also announced his intention to stand as an independent candidate for the Lusaka Central Constituency in the forthcoming general elections.

Mr Phiri said Lusaka Central deserves committed leadership that listens, unites and works tirelessly for the development and well-being of the people.

“I step forward with a vision of progress, accountability and inclusive growth for our constituency, guided by the interests of the people above all else.

“As an independent candidate, my commitment is to serve the people of Lusaka Central with integrity, fairness and a voice that represents the community without fear or favour,” he said.

Mr Phiri said that by working with residents, he will help build a stronger community, expand opportunities for the youth, support local businesses and ensure that the voices of residents are effectively represented.

“I humbly ask for your support, guidance and prayers as we embark on this journey together,” he said.

Nkandu Luo Defends Scrapping of Student Meal Allowances, Says Decision Was Meant to Expand Access

🇿🇲 BRIEFING | Nkandu Luo Defends Scrapping of Student Meal Allowances, Says Decision Was Meant to Expand Access

Former Minister of Higher Education Professor Nkandu Luo has defended the controversial 2019 decision to abolish student meal allowances, arguing that the move was intended to expand government support to a broader range of students across universities, colleges and trade institutions.

Speaking during an interview on Crown TV, Luo said the policy shift was driven by concerns about fairness in the distribution of government support within the higher education sector.

According to her, the previous system benefited a limited number of students from only two public universities while the majority of institutions received little or no support.

“On the day of judgment, I will not be penalised for that. If anything, God will celebrate me for making it possible for all universities, colleges and trade schools to benefit,” Luo said.

She explained that when she assumed office as Minister of Higher Education, Zambia had three operational public universities:  the University of Zambia (UNZA), Copperbelt University (CBU), and Mulungushi University, but meal allowances were largely concentrated at UNZA and CBU.

Luo argued that continuing with the arrangement would have meant maintaining an unequal system where students in other institutions were excluded from government assistance.

She illustrated the point using a family analogy.

“Would it be fair for you to continue just buying chocolates for your two sons or daughters, whereas the other five are eating nothing?” she asked.

According to Luo, the government at the time sought to redesign the support framework to reach a wider student population as more universities, colleges and trade schools became operational.

She added that the decision was not taken unilaterally but followed consultations with parents, students and other stakeholders before being presented to Cabinet.

As part of the reforms, Luo said government introduced the skills levy, a funding mechanism intended to channel resources into technical and vocational institutions as well as universities.

“I asked the Minister of Finance to introduce a skills levy so that all the colleges and trade schools could benefit from government support,” she said.

In addition, the ministry expanded the student loan scheme, allowing beneficiaries to access loans for tuition and related costs with repayment expected after graduation.

Luo said the loan system was designed to create a revolving funding model in which graduates repay their loans, allowing new students to benefit from the same pool of resources.

She also challenged narratives that expanded student support only began after the change of government in 2021.

“Support for students across colleges, trade schools and universities started during my time as minister,” Luo said.

“No one should say it only started in 2021.”

The abolition of meal allowances remains one of the most debated education policy decisions in Zambia’s recent history, particularly among students who previously relied on the support for daily living expenses.

PF Leadership Disowns Mundubile Over Tonse Alliance Presidency Claim

🔵 PF Leadership Disowns Mundubile Over Tonse Alliance Presidency Claim

The Patriotic Front has declared that Brian Mundubile is no longer a member of the party, intensifying a political dispute after the former parliamentary leader maintained that his election as president of the Tonse Alliance does not remove him from PF structures.

Mundubile recently stated that he remained part of the Patriotic Front while serving as president of the Tonse Alliance, a political platform created by former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu. He said his role within the alliance represented a higher responsibility rather than a departure from the party, explaining that his election on January 28, 2026 simply placed him in a new leadership position within the opposition alliance framework.

The Patriotic Front leadership, through national chairperson Jean Kapata, rejected that explanation and stated that Mundubile ceased to be a member of the party when he aligned himself with what the party considers a parallel political structure.

Kapata stated that Mundubile’s participation in the leadership of the Tonse Alliance crossed beyond political association and moved into legitimising an organisation operating outside the authority of the Patriotic Front. She said his decision to contest and assume the presidency of the alliance placed him beyond the discipline and institutional framework of the PF.

According to Kapata, political parties function through clearly defined structures that require loyalty, discipline and respect for collective leadership decisions. She said any leader who simultaneously seeks or occupies leadership positions in parallel structures cannot credibly claim to remain within the party.

Kapata further referenced comments attributed to George Chisanga, described as a close associate of Mundubile, suggesting that a political strategy aimed at destabilising the Patriotic Front leadership and positioning Mundubile within alternative political arrangements had been underway since 2022.

She said that claim provided context for Mundubile’s absence from PF Central Committee meetings during that period, indicating that his disengagement from the party leadership structures was deliberate rather than incidental.

Kapata said the Patriotic Front now regards Mundubile as a politician pursuing his own political ambitions outside the party.

She also pointed to reports suggesting that Mundubile could align with the Forum for Democracy and Development presidential ticket ahead of the August 2026 general elections..

Kapata said it was politically misleading for any leader to present himself as a member of the Patriotic Front while simultaneously advancing political activities outside its structures.

She urged PF members and the public to recognise the distinction between the party’s official leadership and individuals who had chosen to operate independently.

Kapata also addressed attempts to associate the Tonse Alliance with the legacy of the late sixth republican president Edgar Chagwa Lungu. She stated that the Patriotic Front would not allow individuals who had left the party to invoke Lungu’s name for political convenience.

She said the Patriotic Front remained united under its recognised leadership and would not permit individuals operating outside its authority to continue presenting themselves as PF members.

Kapata added that the party remains open to former members who wish to return, but stressed that the proper procedure would require a formal application for readmission in line with the party’s internal processes.

Until such a process occurs, she said, Mundubile should be regarded as a politician operating outside the Patriotic Front.

Katete Women Endorse President Hichilema for 2026 Re-election

Katete Women Endorse President Hichilema for 2026 Re-election

Women in Katete, Eastern Province, have collectively endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema for the 2026 general elections, citing his administration’s developmental track record.

During International Women’s Day celebrations in Mphangwe Ward, supporters highlighted free education, school feeding programs, and increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) access as primary reasons for their support.

Mphangwe Area Councillor Elita Nyirenda, who spearheaded the endorsement, noted that the President has exceeded expectations during his first term.

Ms. Nyirenda also used the occasion to announce her bid for the Mkaika Parliamentary seat under the ruling party. Notably, she recently led over 1,800 councillors in a similar show of support for the President during a civic leaders’ engagement in Lusaka.

ECZ EXTENDS VOTER REGISTER INSPECTION PERIOD

ECZ EXTENDS VOTER REGISTER INSPECTION PERIOD

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has extended the period for the physical inspection of the provisional voters’ register by two days to allow more citizens to verify their details

ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis announced that the inspection exercise, which began on March 2, 2026, will now conclude on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, instead of the earlier scheduled end date of Sunday, March 8.

Ms. Zaloumis explained that the Commission decided to extend the exercise following requests from various stakeholders who sought additional time to participate in the process.

She noted that among those who had raised concerns were Members of Parliament who were still attending parliamentary sittings when the inspection exercise commenced.

The ECZ Chairperson said the extension would give more eligible voters an opportunity to physically inspect the provisional voters’ register and ensure that their details are correctly captured ahead of the upcoming electoral processes.

She further encouraged citizens to take advantage of the additional days to verify their information at designated inspection centres across the country.

HOW SUSTAINABLE IS THE SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM?- Kellys Kaunda

By Kellys Kaunda

HOW SUSTAINABLE IS THE SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM?

This is the question posed by Dr. Aaron Chansa, the Executive Director of the National Action for Quality Education in Zambia, NAQEZ.

He raises questions of funding and logistical gaps.

Specifically, Dr. Chansa identified “challenges in meeting meal preparation costs and lack of sufficient cooking resources and some personnel responsible for preparing meals are not adequately supported”.

This is according to a story by Justina Matandiko of Phoenix News.

In the 70s when I started school, we had no school feeding program. Sometimes parents gave you two or five ngwee which you would use to buy something during school break.

Usually, there were people that brought all kinds of foodstuff to sell outside the school perimeter fence.

On independence day, Supaloaf, a State-owned baking company which my father worked for distributed rock buns (I hope this is the correct spelling) to primary and secondary schools in Kitwe.

Coca-Cola brought coke, Fanta and Sprite. The Dairy Produce Board brought milk and milk biscuits.

However, at one point, this activity abruptly stopped. Looking back, it’s obvious it couldn’t be sustained.

In boarding schools, it was only logical that the feeding program continued.

However, the quality of food was always bad. I was a day scholar but I saw what students ate.

Mostly, it was beans and cabbage. You can imagine for almost three months someone feeding on these two food items!

The poor performance of the Zambian economy over the years has adversely affected government’s ability to sustain some social programs – school-feeding program included.

But given it’s importance, raising questions regarding its sustainability is not intended to frustrate government efforts.

Instead, it’s to help sustain it by bringing to the attention of various stakeholders some of the gaps.

Innocently, government may not be aware of the gaps. Those that may want to step in and fill the gaps are not aware of the needs, too.

My repeated call to the media is that the importance of policy is not necessarily at the point of its announcement.

Rather, it’s at the point of the policy’s contact with its intended beneficiary.

In the case of the feeding program, go to the schools and observe how it plays out in real time.

A news item reported thus is more helpful in improving service delivery than media events organized by sources – typical public relations activities.

“YOU ARE THE OWNERS OF UPND,” LISWANISO TELLS PARTY STRUCTURES IN NORTH-WESTERN PROVINCE

“YOU ARE THE OWNERS OF UPND,” LISWANISO TELLS PARTY STRUCTURES IN NORTH-WESTERN PROVINCE

UPND National Youth Chairman Gilbert Liswaniso has told party members in North-Western Province that they remain the true custodians of the United Party for National Development (UPND), reminding them that the party was launched in Solwezi.

Speaking when he addressed party structures in the province, Liswaniso said the people of North-Western Province occupy a special place in both the history and future of the ruling party. He described the province as a strategic political stronghold for the UPND as the country prepares for the August general elections.

Liswaniso told the gathering that the roots of the party are firmly anchored in north western and that the people of the province played a pivotal role in ushering President Hakainde Hichilema into office in the 2021 general elections.

“Whether we like it or not, the people of north-western are the owners of this party. It was from here that the movement began, and you are the ones who ushered President Hakainde Hichilema into office in 2021,” Liswaniso said.

The UPND National Youth Chairman is currently touring North-Western Province where he is meeting party structures and mobilising young people ahead of this year’s Youth Day commemorations.

DO YOU KNOW HOW PUTIN BECAME RUSSIA’s PRESIDENT?

DO YOU KNOW HOW PUTIN BECAME RUSSIA’s PRESIDENT?-I enjoyed reading this article:

This is Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia. He has dominated Russian politics for 26 years.

Putin is the definition of “started from the bottom, now we are here.”

He started his career as a KGB agent. The KGB was like the FBI and CIA combined. It was the main intelligence and security agency of the SOVIET UNION, dealing with both domestic and foreign issues.

The Soviet Union was a union of 15 republics, namely;

■ Russia
■ Ukraine
■ Belarus
■ Uzbekistan
■ Kazakhstan
■ Kyrgyzstan
■ Tajikistan
■ Turkmenistan
■ Azerbaijan
■ Georgia
■ Lithuania
■ Moldova
■ Latvia
■ Armenia
■ Estonia

All these republics were part of one large country called the Soviet Union. It was MASSIVE and became America’s biggest rival after World War 2. This rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union became known as the Cold War.

America promoted CAPITALISM , while the Soviet Union promoted COMMUNISM. But that is a subject for another day.

Vladimir Putin joined the KGB in 1975, after finishing law school. He was only 23 years old. He served in the KGB for about 16 years.

In 1991, shortly before the Soviet Union officially collapsed, Putin left the KGB.

The Soviet Union formally ended on 26 December, 1991. After that, the republics that had been part of the Soviet Union became independent countries.

Putin then entered public administration in his hometown of Leningrad, which is now called Saint Petersburg. He became an adviser to the mayor and later rose to the position of Deputy Mayor.

In 1996, Putin moved to Moscow and got a job in the presidential administration. His job involved managing government property. At the time, the president of Russia was Boris Yeltsin.

Working in the presidential administration brought Putin closer to the center of power, where senior officials around the president could notice his work.

His skills were quickly recognized. Putin was appointed Deputy CHIEF OF STAFF to the President.

A Chief of Staff manages the president’s office. When I say the president’s office, I do not mean the physical room where the president works. I mean the team of aides and officials who support the president.

The Chief of Staff coordinates this staff and controls the president’s schedule, often deciding who gets access to the president and which issues reach the president first. It is therefore a very influential position.

As Deputy Chief of Staff, Putin was now inside the president’s inner circle. His work became visible directly to President Yeltsin.

In 1998, Putin was appointed Director of the FSB, Russia’s main intelligence agency and the successor to the KGB. He was also appointed Secretary of the Security Council.

These positions gave Putin access to key security and political networks across the government, which became an important step in his rise.

In August 1999, President Boris Yeltsin appointed Putin as Prime Minister. Russian prime ministers have limited authority. The president runs the show.

On December 31, 1999, President Yeltsin resigned. Putin automatically became Acting President.

Three months later, Putin won the 2000 presidential election and became president.

He was re-elected in 2004 for another four-year term, serving until 2008.

At the time, the Russian constitution said that presidents could NOT do more than two consecutive terms. I must emphasize that presidents were allowed to serve more than two terms, but NOT two terms in a row.

By 2008, Putin had already served two consecutive terms, so he could not run again.

To remain influential, Putin supported his close ally Dmitry Medvedev, who ran for president in 2008 and won. Medvedev then appointed Putin as Prime Minister. During this time, Putin was the one truly in charge even though he was no-longer president. He continued to influence things. Infact, when Medvedev was still president, the constitution was changed so that future presidential terms would last six years instead of four.

In 2012, after the end of his term, Medvedev stepped aside inorder for Putin to run again for president. Putin ran and won, beginning a six-year term from 2012 to 2018. He was re-elected in 2018 for another six-year term that would end in 2024.

However, having done two consecutive terms, Putin was not eligible to run again in 2024. In order to get around this complication, his government brought a new amendment that said a president could now only do a maximum of two terms only. However here is THE CATCH. They said that this change did not apply to anyone who had previously served as president. This meant that Putin’s earlier terms were no longer counted under the new constitutional rules, allowing him to run for two more six-year terms.

The amendments were approved by parliament and later confirmed in a national vote (referendum)

This allowed Putin to run again in 2024 for another six-year term, which runs until 2030.

If he chooses, he can run again in 2030, which would allow him to remain president until 2036.

By 2036, Vladimir Putin would be 83 years old. Given the constitutional changes that have already taken place, it is possible that the rules could be amended again in the future. If that were to happen, it could potentially allow him to remain in power beyond the current term limits, or possibly make himself life president.

If you’re Zimbabwean, this story should speak to you!

VP Chiwenga’s Wife Minnie Baloyi Removed From Military Intelligence In Soft Demotion

VP Chiwenga’s Wife, Minnie Baloyi, Removed From Army Intelligence In Soft Demotion
Zimbabwe’s Second Lady, Colonel Miniyothabo “Minnie” Baloyi, the wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has reportedly been removed from her position in the Zimbabwe National Army’s military intelligence directorate and reassigned to the Commander’s Pool, a unit where officers are stationed without specific operational duties. The reported move, which is said to have taken place last week, has triggered debate within political and military circles, with some sources describing it as a routine administrative reassignment while others see it as a form of sidelining.

The development was revealed by investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono on 9 March 2026, citing sources familiar with developments within the military establishment.

In a post shared on his official account, Chin’ono wrote:

“The wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice President, General Constantino Chiwenga, Colonel Miniyothabo ‘Minnie’ Baloyi, has been removed from her position in the Zimbabwe National Army’s military intelligence department and reassigned to the Commander’s Pool, a unit where officers are placed without specific duties.”

He added that the transfer happened recently.

“Colonel Baloyi was moved from her military intelligence post last week.”

Debate Over Reasons For The Reassignment

Sources quoted by Chin’ono suggested that different political camps have offered varying explanations for the move.

One source said individuals close to Vice President Chiwenga believe Colonel Baloyi may have been unfairly targeted.

“Sources close to her husband’s camp say she has been victimised.”

However, individuals said to be aligned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa reportedly offered a different explanation, arguing the reassignment was necessary because of her responsibilities as the Vice President’s spouse.

“According to the source close to the President, the move allows her the flexibility to accompany the vice president without compromising operational responsibilities within the military intelligence department.”

Complaints Over Intelligence Leaks
The reported transfer comes after exiled former cabinet minister and political scientist Professor Jonathan Moyo publicly complained about alleged leaks from within Zimbabwe’s intelligence structures.

Posting on X, Moyo expressed concern about sensitive information reaching the public domain.

“It beggars belief that a respected VVIP at a respected state intelligence institution would be so reckless as to leak such sensitive information.”

Although Moyo did not directly name Colonel Baloyi, the comments circulated widely online amid speculation about internal tensions within the intelligence community.

Mliswa Raises Concerns Over Second Lady’s Military Role
Former ZANU PF legislator Temba Mliswa also publicly questioned whether it was appropriate for the country’s Second Lady to continue serving within the military intelligence structures.

In a televised interview that later circulated online, Mliswa said:

“The problem that we have, which I must say to the nation, is that we also have the wife of the Vice President who is part of the intelligence of the army.”

He further alleged that there could be structural complications within the intelligence system.

“She is running what can be described as a parallel structure within the military intelligence department.”

Traditionally, officers placed in the Commander’s Pool within Zimbabwe’s defence forces are left without specific assignments while awaiting reassignment, retirement, or further deployment.

According to Chin’ono, a close associate of Vice President Chiwenga, the change could ultimately benefit Colonel Baloyi.

“Her movement to the Commander’s Pool could turn out to be a blessing as it will give her more flexibility and time to support political activities when the moment arrives.”

Iran says any Arab or European country that expels Israeli and US ambassadors will get free passage through the Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s IRGC Dangles Strait of Hormuz Access: Expel US and Israeli Ambassadors or Stay Blocked

Tehran’s Revolutionary Guard just laid down a stark ultimatum. Any Arab or European nation that boots the American and Israeli ambassadors from its soil gets full, unrestricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz starting tomorrow. Refuse, and your tankers remain locked out amid the ongoing conflict.

This move comes as global oil flows choke, prices spike, and the vital chokepoint stays a flashpoint. Iran openly rewards diplomatic betrayal of Washington and Jerusalem while punishing allies who stand firm.

The message is clear: align with the regime’s anti-Western axis or face economic strangulation. No ambiguity, no compromise. The IRGC is weaponizing one of the world’s most critical sea lanes to force a choice.

Trump Declares Iran War a ‘Short-Term Excursion’ Set to End ‘Very Soon’ – Strikes to Continue Until Total Defeat

🚨 Breaking News : Trump Declares Iran War a ‘Short-Term Excursion’ Set to End ‘Very Soon’ – Strikes to Continue Until Total Defeat

Washington, D.C. – March 10, 2026 – In a bold address to Republican lawmakers and a follow-up press conference in Florida, U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed that the escalating U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran will wrap up “very soon”, describing the operation as a necessary “short-term excursion” to neutralize existential threats.

Speaking amid ongoing airstrikes that have targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, missile stockpiles, and naval assets, Trump emphasized that the strikes will persist relentlessly until Iran achieves “unconditional surrender” and is “totally and decisively defeated.”

“This isn’t a forever war – it’s a quick, decisive hit to make sure they never threaten us or our allies again,” Trump stated, adding that the mission is already “very complete” and “far ahead of schedule.” He predicted a sharp drop in global oil prices post-resolution but issued a stark warning: any Iranian attempts to disrupt key shipping lanes like the Strait of Hormuz would trigger “harder and faster” responses.

The conflict, which ignited on February 28, 2026, has seen intense exchanges, including the reported de∆th of Iran’s Supreme Leader ∆li Kh∆menei and the swift installation of Mojtaba Kh∆menei as his successor. Tehran has rebuffed ceasefire overtures, vowing “unyielding resistance” while facing mounting casualties and infrastructure losses.

As markets react with volatile oil swings and regional allies bolster defenses, Trump’s timeline raises urgent questions: Will this mark a swift pivot to diplomacy, or a prolonged shadow war? Stay tuned for live updates.

TOBACCO TEARS! Zimbabwe Farmers Revolt as Auction Prices Crash to 50 Cents

TOBACCO TEARS! Zimbabwe Farmers Revolt as Auction Prices Crash to 50 Cents

Angry farmers staged protests as Zimbabwe’s 2026 tobacco marketing season opened with shockingly low prices at auction floors in Harare.

The season began with a first-bale price of $4.60 per kilogram, slightly below last year’s $4.65, but the optimism quickly faded. Within hours, some low-grade tobacco was selling for as little as 50 to 60 US cents per kilogram, sparking outrage among growers who say the prices are unsustainable.

“I can’t sell my tobacco at $1 per kilogram,” one frustrated farmer complained. “How will we afford inputs for next season?”

According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board, global oversupply is driving prices down as major producers sit on large stockpiles from previous years. Demand from China a key buyer of Zimbabwe’s leaf, has also fallen sharply.

Despite the crisis, Zimbabwe hopes to sell up to 400 million kg this season, far higher than last year’s 335 million kg, raising fears that the price slump could worsen.

Pressure Group Backs Down in Mnangagwa Term-Limit Court Fight

Ibhetshu LikaZulu Pressure Group Backs Down in Mnangagwa Term-Limit Court Fight

A controversial court challenge against proposed term-limit extensions for Zimbabwe’s president and Members of Parliament has collapsed after pressure group Ibhetshu LikaZulu dramatically withdrew its case from the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe.

The organisation had filed an application challenging planned constitutional amendments that could push the current presidential and parliamentary terms to 2030, beyond the existing 2028 constitutional limit. But in a sudden reversal, the group said it was stepping back from the legal battle, blaming what it called “vicious propaganda by negative forces.”

Ibhetshu LikaZulu also strongly rejected allegations that it had been working with the ruling ZANU‑PF party to create legal justification for the amendments. Critics had claimed the group was being used as a political proxy to help smooth the passage of the controversial changes without a national referendum.

The withdrawal throws the future of the legal challenge into uncertainty and adds fresh intrigue to Zimbabwe’s heated debate over constitutional changes and presidential term limits.
