Mkhwanazi should have spoken to me privately before making public accusations, says Mchunu

Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has lashed out at KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, accusing him of bypassing internal protocols and taking serious allegations directly to the public, report News24.

In a statement submitted to the Constitutional Court, Mchunu said, “General Mkhwanazi had ample time to liaise with me and afford me a right to respond to any concerns that he may have had before he went public.”

The backlash follows Mkhwanazi’s explosive press briefing on 6 July 2025, in which he accused Mchunu of interfering in police operations, protecting criminal syndicates, and dismantling key task teams investigating political killings in KwaZulu-Natal.

President Cyril Ramaphosa placed Mchunu on a leave of absence on 13 July, pending the outcome of a judicial inquiry chaired by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga. The commission is expected to deliver an interim report within three months.

Mchunu has denied all allegations, labelling them “baseless and without evidence.” He reaffirmed his full cooperation with the commission, while stressing the importance of due process.

The matter has ignited political tensions, with opposition parties, including the Democratic Alliance, calling for Mchunu’s immediate dismissal. The outcome of the inquiry is expected to have significant ramifications for both the police ministry and broader trust in South Africa’s justice system.

Renewed hope as police revisit scene of Joshlin Smith’s disappearance

Renewed hope as police revisit scene of Joshlin Smith’s disappearance

Western Cape police have stepped up their investigation into the disappearance of seven-year-old Joshlin Smith, launching a renewed operation in the Middelpos informal settlement in Saldanha Bay on Friday afternoon.

Officers from various units, including the K9 and forensic teams, descended on the area in what authorities described as a targeted operation aimed at uncovering new leads in the high-profile case.

Police spokesperson Colonel André Traut confirmed the increased activity, saying the operation forms part of an “ongoing and active investigation.”

Joshlin vanished in February 2024 from her home in Diazville, sparking widespread national attention and months of intense searching. While several people were convicted in connection with her disappearance earlier this year, including her mother, the child has not yet been found.

Police have called on the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating Joshlin, reaffirming their commitment to finding her. The community of Saldanha Bay continues to hold out hope, with renewed police action bringing fresh attention to a case that has gripped the country for over a year.

Diplomats in South Africa told Trump backed refugee program was ‘intended for white people’ only

A Friday report from Reuters claims that a senior Trump administration official recently informed diplomats in South Africa that a refugee program set up by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this year was explicitly intended for white people.

According to Reuters, American diplomats in South Africa earlier this month asked the U.S. State Department whether it was allowed to process refugee claims from South African citizens who spoke the Afrikaans language but who were of mixed-race descent.

The diplomats received a response from Spencer Chretien, the senior bureau official in the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, who informed them that “the program is intended for white people,” writes Reuters.

The State Department told Reuters that the scope of the program is actually broader than what was outlined in Chretien’s message and that its policy is “to consider both Afrikaners and other racial minorities for resettlement,” which lines up with guidance posted earlier this year stating that applicants for refugee status under the program “must be of Afrikaner ethnicity or be a member of a racial minority in South Africa.”

Trump back in February issued an executive order establishing a refugee program for what the order described as “Afrikaners in South Africa who are victims of unjust racial discrimination.” The president also lobbed baseless accusations at South African President Cyril Ramaphosa this past May that his government was engaging in “genocide” against white farmers in his country.

The notion that whites in South Africa face severe racial discrimination, let alone the threat of genocide, is difficult to square with the reality that white South Africans own three-quarters of the private land in the nation despite being a mere 7% of the population.

Dara Lind of the American Immigration Council, reacting to the Reuters report, explained on social media platform Bluesky the reasons that Trump’s refugee program for Afrikaners is highly unusual. Lind pointed to the fact that the United States government at the moment is still trying to block refugees who have already gone through a two-year vetting process from entering the country, whereas it let many Afrikaner refugees into the country after a mere two weeks of vetting.

“Two years of vetting is insufficient, but two weeks is enough to know if someone will ‘be assimilated easily’—as admin officials said when the Afrikaners came,” she observed.

Grandma of 7, Former U.S. Army Soldier Stops Passenger from Entering Airplane Cockpit

Nicole Pruitt, an African American woman with seven grandchildren and an Army veteran, stopped another woman from trying to enter the cockpit on a recent Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta to Tucson, using her military training to keep passengers safe.

Pruitt was seated on Delta flight 937 when she noticed a fellow passenger acting strangely. The woman repeatedly tried to enter the cockpit, raising alarm among those nearby.

“I felt like my life was in danger,” Pruitt told ABC 7.

Acting quickly, Pruitt stepped in. “So, I got her down on the ground. It wasn’t hard to do because I think she wasn’t even expecting it. And at that moment, I told the flight attendants, I said, ‘Could you please get some restraints for her?’ She was very strong, but my determination was even stronger,” Pruitt said.

Pruitt said her Army training helped her stay composed. “I knew I had to take care of myself at the end of the day,” she said.

As a precaution, the plane turned back to Atlanta before resuming its flight to Tucson. There were 180 passengers onboard. No injuries were reported.

The FAA later confirmed that the woman was experiencing a medical emergency at the time. She has not been charged.

Delta Airlines thanked Pruitt, the crew, and other passengers for their quick response and cooperation. The flight eventually reached Arizona safely.

California Man Arrested Again For Sniffing Women’s Rear Ends

Calese Carron Crowder, a 38-year-old registered sex offender from Glendale, California, has been arrested once again this week for allegedly engaging in inappropriate behavior at a Walmart in Burbank, California. Crowder, who has a long history of similar offenses, was taken into custody by the Burbank Police Department after being spotted sniffing a woman’s backside inside the store. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on August 1.

KTLA reports that police were initially dispatched to the Nordstrom Rack located in the Empire Center shopping center after receiving reports of a suspicious man loitering in the women’s department. When officers arrived, the suspect had already left the store, but was soon located across the parking lot at Walmart. Officers used store surveillance footage to track his movements through different departments before witnessing him engage in lewd behavior toward a female shopper.

According to police, Crowder was seen crouching behind a woman in the store’s women’s department and sniffing her inappropriately. Officers immediately confronted him and detained him at the scene. After verifying his identity, they confirmed he was on active parole and had previously been arrested for similar conduct.

Crowder made national headlines in 2023 after a video of him sniffing a woman at a Barnes & Noble in Burbank went viral on TikTok. That incident led to a wave of allegations from other women who claimed to have had similar encounters with him. One of those women was the wife of former Los Angeles Lakers player Robert Horry, who accused Crowder of stalking their teenage daughter over a decade ago.

His criminal history includes multiple arrests for indecent exposure, burglary, robbery, and prowling. In one previous case, he was accused of peeping into a family’s home in Glendale. Although he was arrested for that offense, he was later released due to jail overcrowding. He was re-arrested shortly afterward for failing to register with local authorities.

Police believe there may be more victims who have yet to come forward. The Burbank Police Department is encouraging anyone with additional information to contact its Investigations Division at 818-238-3210. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 800-222-TIPS or visiting their website.

US govt now offering citizens option to donate via Venmo and PayPal to help reduce $36.7 trillion debt

Americans, if they’re so inclined, can now donate to pay down the national debt via Venmo and PayPal.

The U.S. Treasury Department’s little-known program has been around for decades, and Americans have donated $67.3 million in the last 29 years, which has done little to bring down the current $36.7 trillion in debt.

On Wednesday, an X post from NPR’s Jack Corbett showing a screenshot of the 21st century payment options went viral.

“You can venmo the United States to help pay off the national debt,” Corbett wrote.

Donors can go to Pay.gov and, under “Gifts to Reduce the Public Debt,” choose between the more traditional bank account or credit/debit card options and the newer options to make a gift.

Even a generous donation is unlikely to make much of a difference, however. The $67.3 million given since 1996 only accounts for 20 minutes of debt, according to Axios.

The national debt, which measures what the U.S. owes its creditors, rose to $36,721,531,033,603 Friday, according to the latest numbers published by the Treasury Department. That is up about $34.5 billion from the figure reported the previous day.

Forty years ago, the national debt was $907 billion.

The outlook for the federal debt level is bleak, with economists increasingly sounding the alarm over the torrid pace of spending by Congress and the White House.

This has intensified with the recent passage of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates will add $3.4 trillion to budget deficits over the next decade. Trump’s team argues revenues from tariffs and faster economic growth will more than help offset rising debt.

The maximum donation allowed by Venmo, $999,999.99, would have to be made in 18 seconds just to keep up with the national debt, Axios reports.

It’s unclear when Venmo and Paypal donation options were added to Pay.gov. FOX Business has reached out to the Treasury Department for comment.

Trump says Hamas doesn’t want Peace deal

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, July 25, claimed that Hamas has no interest in reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, suggesting the militant group is more focused on martyrdom than diplomacy.

“It’s too bad. Hamas didn’t really want to make a deal. I think they want to die,” Trump said during an interview, addressing the collapse of recent ceasefire negotiations.

His remarks come after both Israel and the United States withdrew from indirect talks with Hamas, which had been mediated in Qatar. For over two weeks, Qatari negotiators had been shuttling between representatives of Israel and Hamas in Doha, attempting to broker a truce and facilitate the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza.

Despite recalling its delegation from the Qatari capital, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel remains open to a deal. However, Trump placed the blame squarely on Hamas, saying: “Now we’re down to the final hostages, and they know what happens after you get the final hostages.”

Trump also weighed in on international responses to the Gaza conflict, particularly criticizing French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent move to recognize a Palestinian state.

“He’s a very good guy, I like him, but that statement doesn’t carry weight,” Trump said, dismissing the diplomatic significance of Macron’s decision.

The war between Israel and Hamas, which began with the October 2023 Hamas-led attack that killed over 1,200 Israelis and led to hundreds taken hostage, has dragged on for nearly two years.

Efforts to end the violence and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza remain mired in political deadlock.

Reserve Bank of Zim Reveals Strategy to Ditch US Dollar by 2030 and Make ZiG Sole Currency

RBZ Reveals Strategy to Ditch US Dollar by 2030 and Make ZiG Sole Currency

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) says it’s working toward a future where the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) becomes the country’s sole currency, and that means slowly phasing out the US dollar by 2030.

RBZ Reveals Strategy to Ditch US Dollar by 2030 and Make ZiG Sole Currency
RBZ Governor John Mushayavanhu revealed that the central bank is focusing on building strong foreign currency reserves as part of that plan. In a recent interview with The Independent, he confirmed that Zimbabwe’s official reserves had climbed to US$731 million by the end of June 2025, up sharply from US$270 million just three months earlier.

Reserves Grow, But Still Below Regional Benchmarks
While the progress is notable, Zimbabwe still falls short of international standards. The country now has just under one month’s worth of import cover, a big jump from 0.4 months a year ago, but still well below the Southern African Development Community (SADC) target of six months, and the global minimum of three months.

Mushayavanhu admitted that the reserve levels are not yet where they should be. But he explained that Zimbabwe’s multi-currency system, where both individuals and businesses hold foreign currency in private accounts, makes the benchmarks less rigid.

“The international benchmark for import cover is three months, and the Sadc benchmark is six months,” Mushayavanhu said. “However, these benchmarks apply to mono-currency economies. In countries with multiple currency systems, economic agents — individuals and corporates — already hold foreign currency in their accounts, which are treated as free funds and used to support imports.”

In other words, most of the money used for imports doesn’t come from the central bank; it comes from these private accounts. In fact, around 95% of Zimbabwe’s import payments are handled through private Foreign Currency Accounts (FCAs), with the central bank only stepping in when needed.

Still, as the country works toward having ZiG as the only legal tender by 2030, the RBZ says it’s important to meet global standards and build a solid buffer.

“As the country moves towards mono-currency by 2030, the central bank is building adequate foreign reserves to align with international benchmarks,” the governor said.

Gold-Backed Digital Tokens Play a Supporting Role
Part of the RBZ’s strategy involves gold-backed digital tokens (GBDTs), a unique tool used to store value and strengthen reserves. So far, 942.8kg worth of tokens have been issued, with 196.6kg (valued at around US$21.2 million) still outstanding by mid-July, after many token holders redeemed theirs.

On top of that, the central bank has released around ZiG338 million in physical currency notes. These are backed by over US$700 million in reserves, providing what Mushayavanhu called “over 20 times” the value needed to cover both the cash in circulation and the outstanding digital tokens.

The governor made it clear that the RBZ isn’t improvising, it has a reserves accumulation strategy in place, with the goal of reaching at least three to six months of import cover by 2029.

Finish the job’ against Hamas – US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has dramatically shifted his stance on the Gaza conflict, urging Israel to “finish the job” against Hamas — just weeks after suggesting that a ceasefire deal was within reach.

Speaking to reporters before departing Washington for a weekend trip to Scotland, Trump blamed Hamas for the breakdown in ceasefire negotiations and said the time had come for Israel to escalate its military campaign.

“I think they want to die, and it’s very, very bad,” Trump said. “You’re gonna have to finish the job.”

This shift comes after Trump’s administration pulled back from U.S.-brokered ceasefire talks, with Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff citing Hamas’ lack of coordination and bad faith negotiations. Witkoff said the administration is now exploring “alternative options” for securing the release of hostages.

Earlier this month, Trump had projected optimism that a deal was imminent. But frustration has grown inside the White House, as both the Gaza talks and separate efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine have stalled dimming Trump’s chances of securing a Nobel Peace Prize, a longtime personal goal.

Despite Trump’s grim tone, other actors in the region suggested the talks are not dead. Egypt and Qatar, the key mediators, called the latest pause in negotiations “normal in the context of complex negotiations.” A senior Israeli official also confirmed the talks have “not at all” collapsed and could resume.

Still, Trump’s withdrawal sent shockwaves through Doha, where the talks were taking place. “This is an earthquake,” one source close to the negotiations told CNN. “We’re dealing with the aftershock.”

The core sticking points in the negotiations reportedly include the timeline for ending the war, the number of Palestinian prisoners to be released, and the future positioning of Israeli forces in Gaza.

Trump, meanwhile, placed the blame squarely on Hamas. “Now we’re down to the final hostages, and they know what happens after you get the final hostages,” he said, implying the group was stalling to maintain leverage.

The president declined to elaborate on his recent conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling them merely “sort of disappointing.” Despite that, Trump showed no sign of pressuring Israel to scale back its campaign — even as international condemnation mounts over worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

One UN official this week described Gazans as “walking corpses,” and Tunisian President Kais Saied presented Trump’s senior Africa adviser, Massad Boulos, with images of starving children, some reduced to eating sand.

“It is absolutely unacceptable,” Saied said, calling the crisis “a crime against all of humanity.”

Trump deflected criticism by accusing Hamas of obstructing aid deliveries and claimed the U.S. had received no credit for its contributions.

“People don’t know this — and we didn’t get any thank you — but we contributed $60 million to food and supplies,” Trump said. “We hope the money gets there, because you know, that money gets taken. The food gets taken.”

However, an internal U.S. review reportedly found no widespread evidence that Hamas had stolen U.S.-funded aid.

Meanwhile, key allies are adopting a firmer tone against Israel’s conduct in the war. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called Israel’s actions “indefensible,” and French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would move to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized the move as “a slap in the face” to Israeli victims of the October 7th attack, but Trump dismissed it.

“He’s a very good guy. I like him,” Trump said of Macron. “But that statement doesn’t carry weight.”

Trump Administration Releases FBI Records on Martin Luther King Jr Despite Family Opposition

The Trump administration has released over 240,000 pages of FBI surveillance records related to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., despite opposition from his family and the civil rights organization he once led. These files, previously sealed by court order since 1977, were made public on Monday by the National Archives, marking what federal officials call an “unprecedented” release. The disclosure comes amid controversy, with critics accusing the move of being politically motivated rather than an act of historical transparency.

According to AP News, King’s surviving children, Martin Luther King III and Bernice King, responded with a heartfelt statement urging the public to approach the files with care and compassion. They acknowledged that their father’s assassination has long drawn public fascination, but emphasized the personal pain that remains for their family. “This has been a devastating loss for our family for over 57 years,” they wrote. “We ask those who engage with the release of these files to do so with empathy, restraint, and respect.”

The newly unsealed documents cover a broad array of FBI intelligence, including tips received after King’s death and records of the CIA’s concerns over his anti-war and anti-poverty activism. It remains unclear whether any of the files contain revelations about the assassination or King’s broader legacy. Nonetheless, the family restated their long-standing belief that James Earl Ray, the man convicted of the murder, was not the sole perpetrator—if he was involved at all.

President Trump had previously ordered the release of classified records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy, as well as King’s. While the Trump administration and some allies, like King’s conservative niece Alveda King, praised the release as a gesture of transparency, others saw it as a distraction from recent scrutiny surrounding Trump’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. Rev. Al Sharpton criticized the release, calling it “a desperate attempt to divert attention from the Epstein files and the erosion of Trump’s credibility.”

The King Center, founded by Coretta Scott King and now led by Bernice King, issued a separate statement describing the release as untimely, given the urgent civil rights issues still facing the country. “This righteous work should be our collective response,” the Center said, urging the public to focus on King’s mission of peace, justice, and equality. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference also opposed the release, citing the FBI’s illegal surveillance and efforts to discredit the Civil Rights Movement.

The FBI’s harassment of King under J. Edgar Hoover’s leadership is well documented. The bureau wiretapped his phones, bugged his hotel rooms, and attempted to damage his reputation through leaked information, including personal details about alleged affairs. King’s children described the FBI campaign as “an intentional assault on truth and justice,” and warned against using the files to smear their father’s legacy.

Although James Earl Ray pleaded guilty to King’s murder, he later recanted and insisted he had been framed. In 1999, a civil trial brought by the King family concluded that King had been killed as part of a larger conspiracy. While the Justice Department under Janet Reno later found no new evidence to overturn Ray’s conviction, the King family has never accepted that conclusion. As they now review the newly released records, Martin III and Bernice said they would consider whether any new insights emerge that support their family’s longstanding beliefs.

The United States committed human trafficking’: Lawyer slams Trump’s prisoner swap

News that President Donald Trump’s administration completed a prisoner swap with Venezuela didn’t sit well with one lawyer.

Michael Popok, a lawyer and co-founder of the “Legal AF” podcast, responded to the news in a YouTube video on Saturday. In the video, Popok said the methods the Trump administration used to conduct the swap should be alarming to average Americans.

“The United States just committed human trafficking, in violation of a federal judge’s orders,” Popok said. “This big announcement that we got 10 Americans out of Venezuela, but when you peel back the onion, you see how they did it.”

Last week, reports indicated that the Trump administration exchanged 250 Venezuelan migrants for 10 Americans who were jailed by the Venezuelan government. The Trump administration has focused on the top-line figures, but the methods they used to put the deal together are even more concerning, Popok argued.

“They took 250 people off the streets without due process, in the middle of the night, and they sent them all to El Salvador,” Popok said. “Then, claimed they didn’t have control over the El Salvadoran prison, which was a lie. Then, used their influence and their power over the 250 [Venezuelans] in El Salvador to broker a deal with Venezuela to get out 10 Americans.”

“We call that human trafficking,” Popok continued. “And, no. The ends don’t justify the means.”

Popok is not the only analyst who saw the event as scurrilous. The editorial board of The Philadelphia Inquirer said the deal was a “chilling reminder of Trump’s scorn for the rule of law.”

“Unless the administration is held accountable for the blatantly illegal way it upended these immigrants’ lives, the episode will mark a new low in America’s slide toward illiberal democracy under President Trump,” reads an editorial from Friday.

Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé Soundtrack New Leonardo DiCaprio Film

Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé‘s hit collaboration “Freedom” is the soundtrack to the trailer for the new Leonardo DiCaprio film One Battle After Another.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film also stars singer Teyana Taylor as well as Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro and Regina Hall.

DiCaprio and Taylor star as former revolutionaries on the run from a white supremacist police officer with Kendrick and Bey’s fiery anthem proving to be a fitting background to the trailer.

It is not know if the song will feature in the final film.

One Battle After Another is scheduled for release on September 26.

Kendrick Lamar has made his own moves into the world of movies of late.

He will star in and produce a currently untitled comedy that is set to be released next year.

The film is a collaboration with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and was originally set to come out on July 4, where it would have competed with the new Jurassic Park film.

Kendrick’s Grand National Tour with SZA, which runs from April 19 to August 9, would have also clashed with the promotional rollout of the movie.

It is now scheduled for release on March 20, 2026, according to Variety.

Very little is known about the highly anticipated film, including what kind of role Kendrick will play given he has never acted before but is known for his theatrical performances in music videos.

The rumored title of the movie is Whitney Springs and it reportedly follows a Black man interning as a slave re-enactor at a history museum who finds out that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.

While there has been no official confirmation, the film is also said to star Heretic actor Chloe East, also known for her appearance in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans.

She will reportedly be joined by unknown Celeste Octavia who, according to IMDB, has been a body double for Madonna and appeared in music videos for British rock bands Oasis and Depeche Mode.

Last year, Kendrick Lamar was spotted in production on the film, shooting scenes in Pomona, California. It is not known if filming has been completed.

2-Year-Old Black Boy Miraculously Survives After Falling 15 Stories from an Apartment Balcony

After falling 15 stories from an apartment balcony, an African American toddler named TJ Thompson from Silver Spring, Maryland, is now defying the odds with an incredible recovery. Nearly 3 years old, TJ is not only learning his numbers like most children his age—he’s also relearning how to walk after the traumatic fall that nearly took his life.

His grandmother, Janiel Thompson, calls him their “miracle baby.” She and her wife, Whitley, have been caring for TJ and helping him cope with the physical and emotional aftermath. “He still has nightmares and flashbacks,” Janiel shared. “One time he thought he was falling again while in his wheelchair—you could just see the fear in his eyes.”

According to 11 Alive, the accident occurred on May 15 while TJ was visiting family at the Enclave Apartments in Silver Spring. He somehow fell from a 15th-floor balcony and landed in bushes below, surviving with a broken leg, torn neck ligaments, bruised lungs, and a lacerated liver. He spent weeks in a cast and was unable to walk.

Janiel said watching him struggle has been heartbreaking. “Even though he’s in good spirits, he can’t move the way he used to,” she said. The family has also had to revisit milestones like potty training, which had to be restarted from scratch. “He was doing so well, and then everything just came to a halt.

Now relying on a wheelchair and walker, TJ is slowly gaining confidence but still afraid to put full weight on his leg. His grandmothers worry too, especially about re-injury. “If he jumps or falls the wrong way, it could mean another six weeks in a cast,” Whitley explained. “But he’s still just being a kid.”

The family is awaiting a medical update next week to see if TJ’s leg is healed enough for physical therapy. In the meantime, TJ is more excited about his third birthday this weekend—and the toy trucks he hopes to unwrap. “I want a bulldozer, please,” he said with a smile.

To support TJ’s ongoing recovery, his family has launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical and therapy expenses.

Kenny Kunene Resigns As Joburg Councillor and MMC for Transport Amid DJ Sumbody Murder Suspect Scandal

Kenny Kunene Resigns From Joburg Council Amid DJ Sumbody Murder Suspect Scandal

Kenny Kunene has stepped down from his position as a Proportional Representative councillor in the City of Johannesburg with immediate effect. His resignation comes just days after he was spotted at the home of Katiso “KT” Molefe — the man arrested in connection with the murder of DJ Sumbody.

Kenny Kunene Resigns Amid DJ Sumbody Murder Suspect Scandal
Kunene, who is also the deputy president of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), submitted a resignation letter to the Speaker of the Johannesburg council. In the letter, he reflected on his time in office, claiming he had made a meaningful contribution to rebuilding the city, especially during his tenure as MMC for Transport.

“I regret to inform you that I am tendering my resignation as a Proportional Representation Councillor for the Patriotic Alliance, effective immediately. During my time as a Councillor and the MMC for Transport, I believe I have made a significant contribution to building and rebuilding our beautiful city, and I would like to thank you and all our colleagues in council and government who have worked professionally and diligently alongside me,” part of the letter reads.

Party Investigating His Ties to Murder Suspect
Although he didn’t go into detail about his decision to step down, Kunene suggested it had to do with internal party investigations into his connection with the murder suspect. He said he was temporarily leaving public life to allow the Patriotic Alliance to “satisfy itself” regarding allegations he insists are false.

Without outright denying the controversy, he implied the move was more about optics than guilt.

“I am stepping aside from public life, for a period, while my party satisfies itself as to certain allegations that have been raised against me, which are unfounded, but I have nevertheless agreed it would be in the public interest for me to await the clearing of my name before considering a return to public service and duty,” the letter further reads.

Formal Resignation to the Mayor Still Pending
Kunene also revealed he would be formally notifying the Mayor of Johannesburg about his resignation.

Closing off his letter, he praised his own record, saying he had served with “vigour, authenticity, and vision,” and portrayed himself as a reformer who tackled transport challenges and corruption. Despite the resignation, he promised to stay loyal to the Patriotic Alliance’s political mission and community upliftment efforts.

“I believe I have always committed myself to serve the residents of Johannesburg with vigour, authenticity, and vision. During my two years as an MMC, I worked to be force for good, championing accessible transport, confronting inefficiencies, and challenging systemic rot within our institutions. I remain a loyal patriot towards our broader political mission and will remain dedicated to the upliftment of our communities. I extend my gratitude to the Executive Mayor, to whom I am writing separately, the City Council, the administration, and our residents for the opportunity to serve,” the letter ends.

‘The hardest letter’: Gayton McKenzie suspends Kenny Kunene

Kenny Kunene has dominated headlines with fresh controversy in recent days. Shockingly, he was found at the house of a suspect linked to DJ Sumbody’s murder. Many South Africans quickly called for action. Critics demanded that the Patriotic Alliance (PA) leadership take decisive steps.

They argued Kenny’s continued role harmed the party’s image. His presence in such a scandal deeply worried supporters and political commentators alike. Calls for accountability grew louder every day. Social media buzzed with debates over his role. Clearly, pressure mounted for the PA to act swiftly and transparently in the face of these damning allegations.

Gayton McKenzie suspends Kenny Kunene
Finally, Gayton McKenzie made the tough call. The PA leader announced Kenny Kunene’s suspension from all party activities. Sharing the letter on X, Gayton wrote, “This is the hardest letter I ever had to write in my entire life, for sake of full transparency I am putting it here.”

His words revealed the emotional weight behind this decision. Yet, Gayton stood firm, choosing the party’s integrity over personal loyalty. By suspending Kunene, he sent a clear message: no one is above accountability. Party members praised Gayton’s courage and commitment to transparency.

Meanwhile, critics saw this move as long overdue. Kenny Kunene now faces an uncertain future as investigations continue. The scandal also casts a shadow over the PA’s recent momentum.

However, Gayton’s quick action could help rebuild public trust. The coming days will test the party’s resolve and its dedication to ethical leadership. For now, Gayton McKenzie’s tough decision shows leadership demands hard choices—especially when reputations and justice are at stake.

Benjamin Mendy released by Swiss club after just eight games due his partying antics

Former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, has been released by Swiss club after playing just eight games and angering top officials at the club due his partying antics.

Mendy, 31, joined Zurich in February and agreed a contract running until the summer of 2026 after his short spell with French side Lorient.

But he made less than 10 appearances over his five-month stay and saw his deal ripped up by mutual consent after his behaviour was criticised.

A statement released on the club website read: ‘FC Zurich announces that the contract with French defender Benjamin Mendy has been terminated by mutual consent. He is leaving the city club with immediate effect.

‘FCZ wishes Benjamin Mendy all the best for his private and sporting future.’

According to Mundo Deportivo, Mendy’s questionable off-field antics culminated in the axe being brought down. Indeed, it has been claimed that he angered Zurich’s hierarchy after partying just hours after a 4-0 defeat by rivals Basel in April.

The incident led manager Ricardo Moniz to openly take aim at Mendy in the press.

‘Mendy didn’t perform as expected of a player of his calibre,’ said Moniz.

‘His physical condition isn’t up to what we expect from a player in this league.

‘After a 4–0 defeat, you can’t afford to do that to the supporters.’

Zurich president Ancillo Canepa was similarly unimpressed with the former French international, saying: ‘It’s certainly not what we expected. Mentally and physically, he wasn’t at his best at all, played very badly, conceded goals, and got injured.

‘All in all, it wasn’t a happy story.’

Mendy’s move to Switzerland came after he was suspended by City in August 2021 after being charged with multiple counts of r@pe and one alleged s£xual ass@ult.

He was cleared of six counts of r@pe and one of s£xual ass@ult, and subsequently cleared of a further count of rape and one attempted rape in a retrial in July 2023.

Mendy then successfully took City to an employment tribunal over unpaid wages, with a judge ruling he was entitled to the ‘majority of his unpaid salary’ from the club.

The veteran went on to sign a deal with Lorient but played just 15 games.

He made 75 appearances during his six-year spell at the Etihad, winning three Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

43-Year-Old Meagan Good, “I’m Now Ready to Have Kids with Jonathan Majors”

At the age of 43, actress Meagan Good says she’s ready to have children with her husband, actor Jonathan Majors. She credits the timing, their strong bond, and a recent acting role that brought out her desire to become a mom.

During Lifetime’s Summer Soirée on July 16, Good said, “I definitely am ready to have kids now.” She said her decision was influenced by both her life stage and her husband’s role in her journey.

“When your partner is someone you’re genuinely excited to share this with, who’s already showing he’s a phenomenal father, it just feels right,” she said, according to WBLS.

Good’s role in the series Harlem, where she plays a pregnant character, helped confirm her desire for motherhood. She shared that the experience wasn’t just a performance; it sparked something real.

“It definitely made me excited to go, ‘OK … now I get to go, ‘Yeah, I think this actually makes me super ready,’” she shared.

Good and Majors got married in a private ceremony on March 18. They currently care for four Belgian Malinois dogs and Major’s 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. Asked how many kids she wants, Good replied, “Two would be good. We got four dogs already… but the house is very safe.”

Recently, speculation around a possible pregnancy started after Majors joked during an Instagram Live that he wasn’t sure if Meagan was expecting. Though the comment was playful, fans quickly picked up on the moment, seeing it as a sign the couple is serious about starting a family.

‘Mission accomplished’ for Musk as Trump’s presidency teeters after exit blow-up

If doing irreparable damage to Donald Trump was on Elon Musk’s mind when he posted his infamous attack on the president where he stated the president “is in the Epstein files,” he certainly got his wish, a report from the Washington Post stated on Saturday.

The bitter break-up between the president and the tech billionaire, who had been a constant presence at the White House as his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was dismantling the government, was the match that lit the fuse of the Jeffrey Epstein chaos that currently has the president and his inner circle back on their heels.

As the WaPo’s Cat Zakrzewski wrote, “if Musk’s goal was merely to stoke the controversy without necessarily settling it, his mission has been accomplished — and then some.”

According to the report, the owner of X has danced around the periphery of the Epstein files since then by not directly attacking Trump but also not doing anything that could be supportive either.

“It reveals how Musk remains a potent political risk for Trump months after he publicly left the White House, where he enjoyed unprecedented access and insight into the president’s life as the so-called ‘first buddy,’ rarely leaving his side during the transition and early months of his second term,” the report states.

If anything, the growing controversy has lifted the controversial Musk’s profile with previous critics stating that he has been “vindicated” by the growing furor.

Noting that on Musk’s X the hashtag “#TrumpIsAPedoRapist” has been popular, the report goes on to state, “Allies of Musk serving in the Trump administration have had to tread carefully, largely declining to comment on the feud between the president and one of the world’s most powerful business leaders.”

Earlier this week Trump appeared to extend an olive branch to the billionaire by posting on Truth Social, “I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before! The better they do, the better the USA does, and that’s good for all of us.”

The Post noted Musk did not seem receptive, instead complaining that Trump slashed, “… tax credits for electric vehicle companies in the One Big Beautiful Bill while retaining subsidies for the oil and gas industries,” as their cold war continues.

This whole thing stinks’- Lawyers warn Trump is giving Ghislaine Maxwell a ‘golden ticket’

There’s something fishy about President Donald Trump’s Justice Department setting up multiple meetings with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, according to two lawyers.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has met with Maxwell and her lawyer over the last couple of days. The meetings have led some to speculate that Trump may be dangling a pardon for Maxwell in exchange for favorable testimony from her. The president seemingly confirmed those rumors on Friday when he said he is allowed to pardon her.

This setup has set off alarm bells for lawyers like Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who worked as an assistant U.S. attorney for six years, and Ben Meiselas, who practices criminal law at the California-based law firm Geragos and Geragos.

“Clearly, this errand that Todd Blanche, the number-two at the Justice Department, is going on now is in his capacity as Trump’s defense attorney,” Schiff said in a recent interview. “He wants to know what this convicted child sex trafficker has to say about Donald Trump. And, certainly, she wants a pardon.”

“This whole thing stinks to high Heaven,” Schiff continued.

Meiselas added that the Trump administration’s explanation for reaching out to Maxwell also lacks credibility. Trump has claimed that his administration is simply reaching out to Maxwell to make contact. However, the Trump administration successfully prosecuted Maxwell in 2019, a prosecution that the since-fired prosecutor Maurene Comey led.

Comey is the daughter of former F.B.I. Director James Comey, whom Trump has sought to portray as someone who created the “hoax” surrounding Jeffrey Epstein and Maxwell, Meiselas added.

“[Trump] is kind of giving Ghislaine a golden ticket for a retrial,” Meiselas said.

Former Astronomer boss Andy Byron to sue Coldplay for ‘emotional distress’ over viral kiss-cam video

Former Astronomer, CEO Andy Byron is reportedly considering legal action against Coldplay following the controversy that erupted after a viral kiss cam moment at the band’s recent concert.

During Coldplay’s show in Massachusetts, the kiss-cam captured ex-Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s HR head, Kristin Cabot, in a PDA-filled moment. As soon as the kiss-cam showed their glimpse, they hid their faces and turned their backs towards the camera.

Following the incident, both Byron and Cabot, who are married to separate partners, were placed on administrative leave by Astronomer.

On Friday, July 25, the company’s Board of Directors confirmed Byron’s resignation through an official statement.

Kristin Cabot also resigned. Meanwhile, sources suggest that Byron’s personal life has also taken a hit, with his wife Megan Kerrigan reportedly moving out of their home.

Megan Kerrigan, an educator at the Bancroft School, removed her husband’s surname from her Facebook profile before deactivating her account. Kristin Cabot is married to Andrew Cabot, CEO of Privateer Rum.

According to several reports, Andy Byron is planning to file a lawsuit against Coldplay and the event organisers, citing “emotional distress” and “invasion of privacy.”

A source close to Byron told Page Six, “He didn’t consent to being filmed or publicly humiliated. He thinks Coldplay made him a meme.”

Attorney Camron Dowlatshahi of MSD Lawyers weighed in on the legal prospects of such a case. “If we are getting creative, a possible claim would be for defamation, specifically as it relates to Chris Martin characterising the two as having an ‘affair,'” Dowlatshahi told Page Six.

Dowlatshahi explained that Byron would need to demonstrate “that there wasn’t an affair” to prove defamation.

Hulk Hogan was in the middle of filming a Netflix documentary when he passed away

Hulk Hogan was in the middle of filming a Netflix documentary when he passed away.

The wrestling icon died earlier this week at the age of 71.

According to CNN, the previously unannounced project produced in partnership with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) — aims to chronicle Hogan’s legendary life and career, both in and out of the ring. Despite his sudden death, production is expected to continue, according to sources close to the project.

One insider revealed that the documentary has been in development since early 2024. Over 20 hours of never-before-seen sit-down interviews with Hogan had already been completed, along with 30 hours of other filmed material. The documentary was being produced with Hogan’s full participation.

“People will see a side of him they haven’t seen before,” a source told CNN.

Although no release date has been announced, the filmmakers are now reworking parts of the project in light of Hogan’s passing. Cameras will reportedly be on-site at WWE SmackDown on Friday night to film a tribute segment.

Born Terry Bollea, Hogan became the face of professional wrestling, helping transform WWE into a global entertainment empire. His charisma and larger-than-life persona in the 1980s and 1990s made him one of the most recognizable figures in sports entertainment history.

He died Thursday in Clearwater, Florida, after suffering cardiac arrest. Authorities said there were no signs of foul play and confirmed that a standard investigation is underway.

Hogan’s massive success paved the way for other wrestlers — like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena — to transition from the ring to film and television.

The upcoming Netflix documentary is being directed by Bryan Storkel and produced by Connor Schell’s studio, Words + Pictures, in collaboration with WWE. The project was first reported by Puck.

Man cancels wedding to fiancée over alleged affair with a Catholic Priest

A Nigerian man, Nwandu Chibuike, has publicly announced the cancellation of his planned wedding after discovering that his fiancée was allegedly involved in an ongoing s3xual relationship with her reverend father.

According to Chibuike, the wedding was originally scheduled to take place on August 2, 2025. However, he said he decided to call off the event after learning of the alleged affair, which he claims continued even after the formal introduction between both families had taken place.

He wrote:

“It should have taken place on the 2nd of August 2025 but is now been cancelled because I discovered that she was still in an active sexual relationship with her rev father, even after the introduction, I have her confession on tape.”

Trump is trying to ‘rig’ the next election with a blatant ‘power grab’- lawmaker

President Donald Trump appears to be trying to rig the 2026 primary election, according to one Democratic lawmaker.

Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX) made the comments on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation” with Al Sharpton on Saturday. The conversation occurred at a time when numerous states led by both Democratic and Republican legislatures are considering whether to redraw their electoral maps, a process known as mid-cycle redistricting.

“Congressman, how bad of a crisis is this?” Shaprton asked.

“[ Trump] is trying to rig the next election to make sure he can keep a Republican majority in the House of Representatives,” Veasey said. “That is what this is all about.”

Earlier this month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced state lawmakers would be debating redistricting measures during a special legislative session. The announcement came after the devastating floods in Texas’s hill country that killed more than 130 people and displaced hundreds more.

Texas said its redistricting efforts were included in the special session because they received a memo from Trump’s Justice Department saying the state had four illegally drawn districts. Coincidentally, all four districts are represented by Democratic lawmakers.

Other states, such as Florida, California, and New York, have also announced that they would consider undertaking mid-cycle redistricting if Texas follows through on redrawing its maps.

Veasey said the memo “looks like someone in the 8th Grade put it together.”

“Just a few months ago, Republicans said they drew these districts with race blindness in mind,” Veasey said. Now, they’re doing this as a power grab.”

Trump’s mega spending bill is so unpopular that it seems ‘designed in a lab’

A majority of Americans oppose President Donald Trump’s mega-spending bill, according to a new poll.

The Wall Street Journal on Saturday published the results of a poll it conducted about the legislation. Overall, 52% of Americans oppose the bill, including 94% of Democrats and 54% of Independents. Conversely, 88% of Republicans supported the bill.

The poll included more than 1,500 voters and was conducted between July 16 and July 20 by two firms, one that represented Democrats and another representing Republicans.

“Cutting Medicaid is unpopular. Cutting food assistance is unpopular,” Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) told the outlet. “Cutting those things in order to fund tax cuts for the very wealthy is unpopular, so it’s like it was designed in a lab to be unpopular.”

The Wall Street Journal poll is one of the first to be conducted after Trump and the GOP raced to pass the spending bill ahead of the July 4 weekend. It includes provisions that cut federal spending on Medicaid by $1 trillion over the next decade, which will result in more than 10 million people losing their health care. The bill also makes permanent Trump’s tax cuts from his first administration.

One pollster said the benefits provided to average Americans, like removing taxes from tips, aren’t enough to outweigh the larger concerns the public has with the bill.

“People know about the fact that it includes no tax on tips, and they really like that,” Molly Murphy, president of Impact Research, which represented the Democrats. “It’s not outweighing their concerns about cuts to healthcare, cuts to food services, kind of the other pieces in the bill.”

PF secretary general Raphael Nakachinda says the leaked audio involving Mafinga member of parliament Robert Chabinga and Community Development Minister Doreen Mwamba confirms the criminality that the lawmaker is involved in, supported by President Hakainde Hichilema.

And Nakachinda said after midnight, what Zambians know is that only owls work, saying when he uses the word bakazizi (owls) he’s referring to superstition.

Recently, an audio believed to be that of Chabinga’s recorded voice went viral, in which he was heard in a conversation with a lady believed to be Community Development minster Mwamba.

In the audio, the duo was heard discussing the saga surrounding the repatriation of late president Edgar Lungu’s body.

But Chabinga claimed that the recording was a product of Artificial Intelligence (AI) while some senior UPND officials have also supported his position.

But featuring on a program dubbed The Hot Seat on Hot FM Radio yesterday in Lusaka, Nakachinda said it was an abomination that the President Hichilema was at the center.

Hon. Elisha Matambo Buys Village Chicken  for K100,000

K100,000 (100pin) FOR A CHICKEN!

What was supposed to be a simple village chicken auction at the Likumbi Lya Mize Fundraising Gala Dinner in Kitwe turned into a plot twist so dramatic, even Netflix would ask for the script!

It all started innocently enough with a humble starting bid of K100. Just your average village cock, probably thinking it was headed for a stewpot. But oh no, fate had bigger plans. Within moments, the price flew up faster than fuel prices hitting K5,000 in a heartbeat as Gala patrons flung their hands in the air like they were bidding on Beyoncé’s left shoe.

And just when people thought it was getting out of hand, things got out of chicken.

In swooped the Director of Programs with one line: “Let’s auction the chicken,” and BOOM, Kitwe turned into Las Vegas. The competition got so tense, you could smell the kwacha sweating. Hon. Elisha Matambo, Copperbelt Minister and proud son of Lamba soil, came in swinging with cultural pride and loud bids. But just as he was about to chicken walk away with the prize

Enter the man who guards the minerals of the land, Hon. Paul Kabuswe, Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, who whipped out a bid of K100,600 like he was buying a gold-plated rooster. The room went silent. Mouths dropped. Even the chicken looked confused. “Who, me?”

And just like that, a once clueless village cock became Africa’s Most Expensive Chicken. Some even say it might be the priciest feathered creature ever sold on Earth. Move over KFC this cock’s got stock options!

Once again, the Likumbi Lya Mize Traditional Ceremony has proven that when it comes to culture, pride, and jaw-dropping moments, nobody does it better.

 Hon. Elisha Matambo (and maybe the chicken, for being such a good sport)

STATE FUNERAL IMPASSE, THE PROBLEM AND THE SOLUTION. THE ANALYSIS.

STATE FUNERAL IMPASSE, THE PROBLEM AND THE SOLUTION. THE ANALYSIS.

🧭 I. THE CONFLICT
The tragedy of most conflicts, whether political, social, or global, is the failure of opposing sides to consider the other’s perspective. Each group often believes they are the reasonable party, while the other is unreasonable. This entrenched thinking leads to stalemates, emotional outbursts and sometimes and decisions that deepen wounds rather than heal them, leading to destruction and lost of lives.

Zambia is witnessing such a moment in the unfolding standoff surrounding the funeral of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. The government and the grieving family both feel wronged and justified in their positions. Instead of dialogue, we are now seeing demonization, suspicion, and emotional escalation, all deeply regrettable at a time when unity and dignity should prevail.

⚖️ II. THE SOURCE OF THE CONFLICT
The impasse over President Lungu’s funeral has been shaped by a complex history of political rivalry, perceived injustices, and mutual mistrust. Emotions are understandably high. Both sides feel aggrieved by how they were treated when the other held power.

As civic activists, we had planned to launch a “Bury ECL in Zambia” campaign to push for dialogue and reconciliation. However, following the emergence of a controversial leaked audio, we stepped back to avoid the appearance of partisanship or manipulation. Still, the matter demands attention, and resolution, not on political lines, but on principle and national interest.

🧩 III. DIFFERING NARRATIVES
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 1. The Grieving Family’s Concerns

  • The family insists that the late President did not want the current Head of State to attend his funeral, a wish they believe must be honored.
  • There are circulating suspicion, however unverified, that the former President may have been poisoned or mistreated, and concerns have been raised (again, unproven) about possible ritual motives.
  • The family believes that the denial of permission to travel for medical attention may have contributed to his untimely death.

🏛️ 2. The Government’s Position

  • The government sees the family’s demands, particularly excluding the President from the funeral, as unreasonable and driven by political emotion.
  • It believes President Hichilema has made significant efforts to extend an olive branch and uphold the dignity of the office.
  • Officials have argued that the Patriotic Front (PF) is politicizing the funeral to gain public sympathy and stir division.
  • The government also points to protocol and legal precedent, which typically place state funerals under government authority.

⚠️ IV. THE REAL STAKES
Every well-meaning Zambian wants former President Lungu to be buried in his home country, with dignity and honor. But it’s important to recognize one simple truth: the government holds the decisive cards. It controls the protocols, resources, and political tone that will shape the outcome. The way this is handled will be remembered for decades.

Is the family being unreasonable? To some extent, yes, but not entirely. In Zambia, once allegations of superstition or foul play enter public discourse, they are extremely difficult to dislodge. No amount of explanation or assurance will easily change public or private sentiment. This emotional immovability makes it more feasible for the government, not the family, to make meaningful concessions for the sake of peace.

⚖️ V. A LEGAL ROUTE: A NATIONAL DEFEAT
Should the matter be resolved in the courts, particularly abroad, no one will win:

  • If the ruling favors the family, President Lungu may be buried outside Zambia, depriving the nation of its chance to give him a dignified farewell.
  • If the ruling favors the government, the family and political allies may boycott the funeral entirely, robbing it of the human solidarity it requires.

Either outcome reflects a national failure.

🛤️ VI. PATH TO RESOLUTION: WHAT CAN BE DONE
To break this deadlock, Zambia must prioritize dignity, compassion, and practicality. Two viable options exist:

  1. Presidential Delegation Instead Of Attendance
The President can respect the family’s request by sending a high-level representative, such as the Vice President or Cabinet Minister, to attend on behalf of the government. This frames the President’s absence not as a sign of weakness, but of compassion and humility. It elevates national unity above personal or political rivalries.
  2. Downgrade To A Private Funeral
Alternatively, the funeral can be reclassified from a State Funeral to a private, family-led ceremony. This allows the burial to proceed without tension or protocol clashes. The government can still offer logistical and security support as a sign of goodwill.

🕯️ VII. FINAL REFLECTIONS
It’s worth noting that South African law strongly favors family rights over the deceased, and Zambia risks losing the legal battle should it proceed there. In that scenario, history will judge us all harshly, not for choosing a side, but for failing to find common ground.

For now, all parties, especially government leaders, must commit to quiet diplomacy. No inflammatory statements, no political games, and no reckless speculation until this solemn chapter is concluded.

This is not just about Edgar Chagwa Lungu. It is about who we are as a nation. Let us act not out of pride, fear, or vengeance, but with dignity, restraint, and love for our country. 🇿🇲

Anyways, the struggle continues.

Thank God Hichilema was jailed, his Incarceration taught him to care for inmates

ACTING Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Collins Nzovu has recognised the unique insights brought to prison reform by President Hakainde Hichilema, whose personal experience as an inmate shaped his approach to inmate welfare.

Nzovu declared that the president’s time as an inmate instilled in him an unshakable understanding of the challenges faced by those in correctional facilities.

Speaking at the 2025 International Day of Prayer and Action for Inmates at Mwembeshi Correctional Centre today, Nzovu encouraged the inmates to take a lesson from President Hichilema’s experience, highlighting the determination and resilience that allowed him to ascend to the presidency despite his own time as an inmate.

He urged inmates to embrace their time behind bars as an opportunity for reflection and self-improvement.

“Do not view your time here as a punishment,” but as an opportunity for rehabilitation and redemption. Learn from your mistakes and become the best versions of yourselves,” Nzovu counseled.

He emphasised government’s commitment to providing education for poor inmates, declaring that the bursary scheme managed by the Ministry of Education remains accessible and to all Zambian youths, including those currently behind bars serving sentences.

“We are unwavering in our support for education in correctional centers, through partnerships with TEVETA and other institutions, inmates are acquiring valuable life and vocational skills that will equip them for success upon their release,” he affirmed.

The minister further lauded the practical skills training programmes available to young offenders within correctional facilities, emphasising their value in preparing inmates for successful reintegration into society upon their release.

Nzovu further reaffirmed government’s commitment to holistic rehabilitation for inmates, stating that family support, mental health counseling, and community integration programmes will be prioritised to prevent ex convicts from repeating offences and ensure successful reintegration into society.

Meanwhile Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu appealed to the religious organisations, civil society groups, and other stakeholders, imploring them to enhance their commitment to the reintegration of inmates.

He underscored the pivotal role that acceptance and inclusivity play in the successful rehabilitation of inmates, urging Zambian society to open their hearts to ex-inmates and offer them the support necessary for a fresh start.

The 2025 International Day of Prayer and Action for Inmates was commemorated under the theme, “Love can change a story: Young offenders deserve a second chance” (Luke 15:17-24).https://kalemba.news/column/thank-god-hichilema-was-jailed-his-incarceration-taught-him-to-care-for-inmates/

Nairobi will join New York, Geneva and Vienna as one of only four cities worldwide hosting multiple UN headquarters

Nairobi will join New York, Geneva and Vienna as one of only four cities worldwide hosting multiple UN headquarters.

Early this year, the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres, announced plans to relocate at least three agency headquarters from New York to Nairobi, Kenya.

The United Nations complex in Gigiri, Nairobi, is already undergoing extensive infrastructure improvements as the city prepares to accommodate additional UN agencies by 2026.

These include the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). This relocation is part of a broader UN reform initiative focused on decentralization and cost-effectiveness. Nairobi will join New York, Geneva, and Vienna as one of only four cities globally hosting multiple UN headquarters.

Already Nairobi is home to the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), which is one of the four main UN headquarters locations. Additionally, Nairobi hosts the global headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). Several other UN agencies and regional offices also have a presence in Nairobi, including UNICEF, UNDP, FAO, UNIDO, ILO, ICAO, UNESCO, and others.

Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, hosts the most UN headquarters and offices in Africa. The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) serves as the UN’s headquarters in Africa and is one of four main UN secretariat duty stations. It provides support to several UN agencies, including UNEP and UN-HABITAT. Nairobi also hosts 23 country offices and several regional hubs.

Political Tool in Disguise: The Hidden Dangers of the Land Cancellation Law

PARLIAMENT SHOULD HEED DICKSON JERE AND GEORGE CHISANGA OVER TITTLE DEEDS LAW

Political Tool in Disguise: The Hidden Dangers of the Land Cancellation Law

By Dr Mwelwa

The presentation by Counsel Dickson Jere and Hon. George Chisanga to the parliamentary committee may go down as one of the most important interventions in Zambia’s legislative history—if only Parliament is humble enough to listen. Their contribution was not just legal analysis; it was a lesson in history, constitutionalism, and the dangers of unbridled administrative power. We must thank them, not out of formality, but because their argument stood between us and the legal abyss this proposed Land (Amendment) Bill threatens to open.

Let us begin with the origin of the title deed. The very concept traces back to feudal England—where landowners, peasants, and lords clashed for centuries over land rights. The Enclosure Acts in Britain saw the commons seized and privatized, pushing peasants into cities and prompting agitation that nearly tore the kingdom apart. It is from those dark periods that the Crown introduced clearer systems of documentation: the deed system, where landownership would be certified in writing, and later, the Torrens system, which gave rise to modern title registration. These reforms were not academic—they were survival tools. They were born out of rebellion, blood, and the need for stability. The title deed is therefore not an administrative luxury; it is a foundational safeguard that prevents tyranny through clarity of ownership.

When Zambia gained independence in 1964, we inherited this system from the British, improved upon it, and enshrined it in our legal framework. Today, banks lend based on it, courts adjudicate disputes through it, families bequeath it, and citizens stake their future on it. The idea that a single officer—appointed and answerable to the Executive—should have the unilateral power to cancel this guarantee is not only reckless, it is repugnant to constitutional democracy. It is not reform. It is regression to the darkest traditions of land insecurity that we thought we had buried with colonial rule.

Across the Commonwealth—from India to Australia, from Canada to Kenya—title deeds are respected, not feared. Even where registrars have administrative powers, cancellations of titles only happen through judicial review. Because it is universally understood: land is power. And power over land must never rest in one man’s pocket. It must pass through the crucible of courts, where facts, law, and justice can be weighed before a decision is made. Not behind closed doors, not on partisan instructions, and certainly not on the whim of a bureaucrat whose position may change with the next election.

What Counsel Jere and Hon. Chisanga reminded the committee is that we are standing at a dangerous crossroads. Do we, like other democratic nations, protect the title deed as a pillar of economic order and citizen security? Or do we descend into a system where any Registrar, armed with a pen and political instructions, can wipe away a family’s inheritance, a business’s collateral, or a citizen’s life investment?

Let us be honest—this law is not about administrative efficiency. It is about political control. It is about revenge disguised as reform. Today it may be used to punish opponents of the regime. Tomorrow it will be used to silence dissenters within. And in the near future, it will be used by the next regime to settle its own scores. Those in power today must remember: power changes hands. If you sow this law, you will reap it. That is the nature of unjust legislation—it outlives its architects and haunts their successors.

This is not the time for indifference. This is not the time for MPs to yawn through committee meetings and nod blindly during debates. This is the time to rise. If Parliament passes this bill, it will not merely be legislating policy. It will be authoring a national crisis. Landowners will panic. Banks will hesitate. Investors will flee. Courts will be overwhelmed. And worst of all, citizens will begin to doubt that anything in Zambia is truly theirs.

The British learned—through riots and revolts—that land rights must be protected in law, not subject to politics. They then taught us the same lesson through their legal exports. For over a century, that system has served us. Do not break it now in the name of progress. It is not broken. What is broken is political restraint.

To every MP: this is your Rubicon. If you cross it, you will have traded the birthright of millions for the short-term applause of a political master. You will have taken a working legal system and poisoned it with fear and arbitrariness. And when history comes to write the obituary of land justice in Zambia, your name will be there. Not as a reformer. But as an accomplice.

Stand up. Speak up. Vote no. Withdraw the bill. Let the courts remain the only proper venue for cancelling a title deed. That is what the law demands. That is what justice requires. And that is what history will remember.

The PF–Tonse Alliance and the Politics of Nostalgia: When Lamentation Fails

The PF–Tonse Alliance and the Politics of Nostalgia: When Lamentation Fails

By Farai Ruvanyathi

26th July 2025

It has become abundantly clear that the sudden jostling within the so-called PF–Tonse Alliance signals a political moment of reckoning. The alliance’s failed attempts at generating public sympathy using former President Edgar Lungu’s death have not only fallen flat but exploded spectacularly in their faces.

A Political Strategy Built on a Corpse

The Alliance’s ill-advised attempt to use President Lungu’s remains as a campaign symbol was a deeply cynical move. The public saw through the manipulation. The “corpse campaign,” spearheaded by Given Lubinda and Raphael Nakachinda, failed to resonate with a population grappling with tangible alternatives, not manufactured grief.

In what can only be described as a nationwide tour of sorrow, the Alliance turned the biblical Book of Lamentations into a playbook. But the Zambian people didn’t buy it. They responded not with tears, but with rejection, delivering electoral blows in recently held by elections, that exposed not just strategic incompetence, but national fatigue with the Lungu era and its trappings.

Factions Without a Future

With the sympathy card burned to ash, the PF–Tonse Alliance now finds itself in disarray. Leadership struggles have intensified, and with no clear ideological anchor, it’s a free-for-all. As the Americans would say: get your popcorn ready.

At the heart of the chaos lies an ethnic contradiction. Can Nakachinda and Lubinda, closely associated with the so-called “Zambezi Province”,  a regional identity manufactured by PF’s own ethnic stereotyping,  credibly lead a movement whose traditional stronghold lies in the Northern region?

Ethnic Arithmetic Turned on Its Head

The same ethnic formulas that the PF once weaponized to divide and marginalize others are now undermining their own ranks. The Alliance’s key figures,  Kelvin Bwalya Fube, Brian Mundubile, Harry Kalaba, Binwell Mpundu, and Dan Pule, each represent diverging ambitions and regional loyalties. None have demonstrated the capacity to unify or articulate a national vision that speaks to the present-day needs of ordinary Zambians.

As the internal succession war heats up, the Alliance looks less like a political alternative and more like a theatre troupe rehearsing for a play no one wants to watch.

What Do They Stand For?

Now that the “corpse theory” has failed, what message does the PF–Tonse Alliance offer to the people of Zambia? What credible alternatives are they proposing to the economic recovery plan being pursued by President Hakainde Hichilema?

Thus far, the Alliance has distinguished itself as a coalition of self-styled social media commentators and suit-clad photo posers, men more preoccupied with image than policy. Zambians have grown accustomed to seeing neatly choreographed images of these men in suits, posing at airports, on pavements, and even in church pews, but little else.

Still Trapped in Edgar Lungu’s Shadow

None of the Alliance’s frontmen have worked to build a broad national appeal. Instead, they remain trapped in a narrow, sectarian political framework rooted in the ethnic exclusionism of the Lungu era,  an era that openly left out four provinces from Cabinet appointments and pursued politics of division rather than development.

This is not a coalition of visionaries. It is a nostalgic club of the past, desperately trying to revive a legacy that the majority of Zambians have moved on from.

Zambia Deserves Better

At a time when the country is undergoing significant economic and institutional reforms under President Hichilema’s leadership, Zambians deserve a credible opposition,  one that can present fresh ideas, engage in policy debates, and challenge the government with substance, not sentiment.

Unfortunately, the PF–Tonse Alliance has shown neither the capacity nor the will to be that opposition. Until it sheds its reliance on ethnic patronage, political nostalgia, and theatrics, it will remain nothing more than a hollow echo of a fading past.

PF MPS DEMAND GOVERNMENT APOLOGY TO SOUTH AFRICA OVER LEAKED AUDIO IMPLICATING HON. CHABINGA

PF MPS DEMAND GOVERNMENT APOLOGY TO SOUTH AFRICA OVER LEAKED AUDIO IMPLICATING HON. CHABINGA

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Opposition Patriotic Front (PF) members of parliament have called on the Zambian government to issue a formal apology to the government of South Africa, following the circulation of a leaked audio allegedly implicating Mafinga MP Robert Chabinga in a plot to bribe a South African judge in the burial case of late president Edgar Lungu.

at a media briefing, Lukashya MP George Chisanga warned that failure to address the contents of the audio could strain diplomatic relations between the two countries.

he emphasized that the allegations, if left unclarified, risk undermining the integrity of South Africa’s judiciary and Zambia’s foreign policy standing.

Chisanga argued that since Mr. Chabinga is officially recognized as PF president and leader of the opposition, South African authorities may interpret his alleged remarks as reflective of Zambia’s political leadership.

he further stated that vice president Mutale Nalumango’s response in parliament effectively confirmed the authenticity of the audio, dismissing claims that it was AI-generated.

meanwhile, Lunte MP Mutotwe Kafwaya expressed concern over what he described as attempts to shield president Hakainde Hichilema from scrutiny, noting that the leaked audio contains direct references to the head of state. he insisted that distancing the president from the issue is inappropriate and undermines public accountability.

the leaked audio, which has sparked widespread debate, allegedly features a conversation between Chabinga and minister of community development Doreen Mwamba, discussing strategies to influence a South African court ruling on the burial of the late president Lungu.
