The 28-year-old man tragically lost his life after an altercation at the home of his former girlfriend in Inyathi, Zimbabwe.
The victim, identified as Admire Dhangamandla, was allegedly attacked by his ex-girlfriend and her current partner during a heated dispute.

Suspects Arrested Following Murder
Law enforcement officials have confirmed the arrest of 24-year-old Kudzai Taendesa Chitima and 26-year-old Fanuel Moyo in connection with the fatal incident.

According to police reports, the confrontation occurred Thursday evening at Chitima’s residence in Badala Village 3.

Details of the Attack
Authorities revealed that the violence erupted when the victim, Dhangamandla, arrived at Chitima’s home only to find her in the company of Moyo.

An argument ensued, culminating in a physical attack. Moyo allegedly struck Dhangamandla on the forehead with a stone before assaulting him further with his fists.

The altercation is believed to have stemmed from unresolved issues involving Chitima. Police stated that Dhangamandla succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

50 Cent Fiercely Claps Back At Critics Of His Vegas Residency

50 Cent is currently living it up in Las Vegas amid his residency there, which hasn’t had the most glowing press run as of late. Moreover, you might’ve heard about a viral TikTok that called his show “terrible,” which inspired a lot of conversations about the quality of the concerts among some of his longtime foes or haters.

Well, it turns out that the G-Unit mogul heard about this, and seems to have responded via a hilarious mid-show rant that addressed the general critiques of his residency performances. Overall, he didn’t seem to take it very seriously, but it’s a funny commentary about what standards we hold performers in these spaces to.

“[They] supposed to say some st like, ’50 be doing this st,'” 50 Cent remarked before putting his hand up and down to the crowd. “That’s what I’ma do. You won’t say the music was bad. Man, fk all that, man. What, you thought I was going to be out here roller-blading like Usher and st? I seen some s**t, Chris Brown was flying in Africa. I don’t have records that require me to fly in Africa.” To be fair, the crowd singing along to Fif’s “Disco Inferno” after this speech disproves some of the criticism that went his way.

Of course, Ja Rule had to step in to clown 50 Cent for these critiques, but it seems like it was still a very successful and beloved run. Some more celebrities ended up supporting the Vegas residency, including a meet-and-greet appearance from Amanda Bynes. The interaction between her and 50 sparked some memes online, as well as some general concern and inquiry about their behavior towards one another. But we’re sure plenty of other stars made it as well.

At the end of the day, we’ll see just how successful and acclaimed 50 Cent’s Vegas residency will go down as in the history books in due time, so let’s give the discourse some space to breathe. Elsewhere, he’s got some other stuff to develop on the horizon, including a potential collaborative album with none other than Eminem. It’s a promising idea!

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have reportedly settled their divorce five months after their shock split

Former celebrity couple, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have reportedly settled their divorce five months after their shock split.

Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, who wed in 2022, will officially end their marriage on February 20, with the pair each walking away with what they individually acquired during their brief union, DailyMail reports.

The pair have also reached an agreement on their $61million Beverly Hills mansion they bought together, although the terms will remain private.

The former couple wed without a prenuptial agreement – with their cumulative wealth sitting at $550million, with Lopez’s assets accounting for $400million of their wealth treasure chest.

The actor-director and singer-actress got married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022 – 18 years after breaking off their first engagement in 2004.

The couple again exchanged vows at Affleck’s estate outside of Savannah, Georgia on August 20 that year.

J-Lo filed the divorce documents on the two-year anniversary of their Georgia nuptials, but listed their separation date as April 26, 2024.

TMZ reports Affleck will hold onto his stake in his production company, Artists Equity, which he founded in 2022 with BFF Matt Damon.

The company has produced Air, The Accountant Part 2 and Unstoppable.

Lopez worked on projects including Shotgun Wedding, This Is Me… Now, and The Mother during their marriage.

The settlement, which was mediated by celeb disso queen Laura Wasser, also reveals Lopez is dropping Affleck as a last name and going back to Jennifer Lynn Lopez.

This comes one day after Affleck received a visit from his estranged wife Lopez several hours before the Golden Globes on Sunday.

The Selena star dropped by his home and even appeared to give Ben’s son Samuel, 12, a hug.

JLo’s child Emme, 16, was spotted emerging from the property with a large gift in their hands as Ben trailed behind.

The sighting comes after it had been reported that Ben and Jennifer would remain in each other’s lives despite their divorce.

Last month in December, Affleck and Lopez were also seen reuniting as they exchanged gifts at Soho House in Los Angeles.

‘They have every intention of continuing to be in each other’s lives despite not being romantically involved,’ a source recently told Page Six.

The source also added that the two stars will still ‘communicate when it involves their kids.’

Ben and Jennifer ‘have a mutual respect for one another’ and also ‘have a lot of history.’

The former couple ‘remain amicable whenever they do see each other.

They’re still close with each other’s children, and even though they don’t have a co-parenting type of relationship, they still feel like a blended family in a lot of ways.’

Ben shares Samuel, as well as Violet, 19, and Fin, 15, with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.

Prince Andrew has been reported to police after being accused of using a false name to register a company

0

Prince Andrew has been reported to police after being accused of using a false name to register a company.

The Duke of York, 64, used the pseudonym ‘Andrew Inverness’ when in 2002 he set up business Naples Gold Limited with sports retail tycoon Johan Eliasch.

Now Graham Smith, the chief executive of Republic, an anti-monarchy campaign group, has submitted a complaint to Scotland Yard to accuse the prince of using false information in documents filed to Companies House.

The Metropolitan Police is currently assessing the report to determine whether any further action is required.

Mr. Smith told The Telegraph that Andrew ‘must be held to the highest standards’ and ‘the royals appear to believe they can act with impunity’.

Andrew has used the pseudonym for four companies registered at Companies House.

It is thought to have derived from one of his less well-known titles, the Earl of Inverness, which was given to him by Elizabeth II in 1986 when he married Sarah Ferguson.

Mr Smith said: ‘The apparent filing of false information with Companies House may seem trivial, but the UK faces serious issues of fraud committed in this way. While no such fraud is alleged here, surely Andrew must be held to the highest standards.’

On Sunday it emerged that the firm managing Andrew’s private investments had shut down.

Urramoor limited, which Andrew had ‘significant control over’, has applied to be struck off and dissolved, documents filed to Companies House last week show.

It comes just a year after the investment company was bailed out by a mystery donor.

Urramoor somehow secured £210,000 worth of funding in the form of non-redeemable shares in December 2023, documents filed at the time revealed.

The company was £208,000 in the red before it received the cash from an anonymous source.

Prince Andrew initially up the investment fund under the name HRH Andrew Inverness in 2013.

It was established around 18 months after his trade envoy role was taken off him due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein.

The decision to shut Urramoor down was signed by the company’s director Arthur Lancaster on January 3.

Ex-Bad Boy Mark Curry Claims Diddy & JAY-Z Never Helped Anyone

Former Bad Boy rapper says moguls took advantage of everyone to make themselves rich.
Ex-Bad Boy artist Mark Curry claims moguls Diddy and Jay-Z got rich while everyone around them starved. In an Instagram Live, Curry claims that Diddy and Jay-Z’s current situation results from how they treated others in the past to become successful. In his rant, Curry says, “You know why they going through what they going through? Because you don’t do God’s children that way. They crazy.”

Not looking to talk about the moguls much, Curry also says, “Don’t think that Jay Z and Puff are the biggest mobiles ever. They are great people, but what you wanna look at is the great people that were able to become because of some people, so we gonna leave them there. How many people could’ve been greater that weren’t made because of their empowerment?”

Curry’s Live received mixed reactions from social media. Some disagreed with the ex-rapper’s claims, while others claimed the moguls were finished. A user commented, “Grown men really want their hands held. Im really starting to understand Logan from succession each day more and more.” About Diddy and Jay-Z, a user commented, “They are both finished. I don’t know why people don’t get it yet. Jay Z will be locked up soon. Most likely after around the time of Diddy’s sentencing.” A user defended Jay-Z’s contribution to other’s careers. They commented: “Jay-Z is an example of someone who actually helped all the people around him. All his real friends are rich & part of his empire. Most of the Roc-a-Fella employees still work with him, or they went on to become successful execs in the industry; no artist has ever accused him of signing them to a bad deal or taking their publishing. He never shelved anyone & if people asked to leave, he let them go”

On the Hollywood Unlocked comments, a user explained that Curry is responsible for himself. They wrote, “You are responsible for your own success it’s your responsibility to put yourself in the right positions to succeed.” Many would recite Jay-Z’s quote about the acknowledgment. The quote: “You never hear people complaining about what I did to them, only about what I didn’t do for them.”

Social Media Erupts as UK Ex-Prison Officer Gets 15 Months for Lula Lula With Prisoner

Social media is in a frenzy after Linda De Sousa Abreu, a former prison officer at HMP Wandsworth in London, was sentenced to 15 months in jail for misconduct in public office. The 31-year-old made global headlines after a video of her having relations with an inmate while on duty went viral online last year.

The court heard that De Sousa Abreu, who has a history of mental health challenges and trauma, consented to the encounter with the inmate. Disturbingly, a second prisoner was present, filming the act while allegedly smoking cannabis. The footage later surfaced online, sparking widespread outrage.

UK Prison Officer Gets 15 Months For Viral Video
De Sousa Abreu was identified by staff at HMP Wandsworth and arrested by Metropolitan Police at Heathrow Airport on June 28, 2024, a day after the video went viral. She was reportedly planning to flee to Madrid, having called the prison to say she would not be returning to work.

In July 2024, she pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office.

During her sentencing at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday, Judge Martin Edmunds KC remarked that De Sousa Abreu “knew that conduct was forbidden, and forbidden for good reason.” He emphasized that the offence and the harm caused were “immensely serious.”

Fresh Arrest Warrant Issued For Impeached South Korean President

A South Korean court has re-issued an arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, the country’s Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) announced on Tuesday.

This comes as investigators face challenges in arresting Yoon, who was accused of inciting insurrection when he tried to impose martial law in early December.

Last week, hundreds of Yoon’s supporters gathered outside his residence, while a human wall of security personnel, including the presidential security guards, blocked investigators from executing an initial arrest warrant at Yoon’s residence.

The CIO eventually called off the attempt after a six-hour standoff but remained determined to apprehend the embattled leader, whose initial arrest warrant expired on Monday.

Yoon’s legal team had sought an injunction from a Seoul court to nullify the initial warrant, but the court rejected the request on Sunday, according to court officials.

Yoon, a former prosecutor, refused to cooperate with investigators three times regarding allegations of a failed martial law decree last month, which plunged South Korea into its most severe political crisis in decades.

The CIO confirmed on Monday that it had filed a request for a fresh arrest warrant at the Seoul Western District Court but did not disclose the warrant’s validity period.

If detained, Yoon would become the first sitting South Korean president to be arrested, and he could face imprisonment or the death sentence if convicted.

South Korea was thrown into political chaos on December 3, as President Yoon declared martial law in the country, causing a major rift between Yoon loyalists in parliament and opposition members who were in the majority.

He was eventually impeached on December 14 on a second attempt.

But two weeks later, the parliament voted to impeach his replacement, acting president Han Duck-soo, marking the first time an acting president had been impeached since South Korea became a democracy.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court has scheduled January 14 for the start of Yoon’s impeachment trial, which could proceed in his absence if he fails to attend.

The court has up to 180 days to decide whether to remove him from office.

London Man gets £5,000 in compensation after cutting himself while shaving

0

A man who sued a razor company after cutting himself while shaving with one of their products has been handed £5,000 in compensation.

Nick Silverthorn, 48, from London, bought himself a new razor during the Christmas holidays.

He said he visited his local Sainsbury’s in Richmond to buy a £2.50 Wilkinson Sword Men Advance 3 razor.

But when Mr Silverthorn unwrapped his purchase and began shaving on Boxing Day, he started “bleeding badly.”

He said: “I put on the hot tap and my shaving lotion and I was on autopilot.

“I started shaving on one side with one stroke and then another stroke on the other side.

“I noticed after a few seconds that I had started bleeding badly on my left cheek and then on my right-hand side as well and before I knew, it was streaming down my face.”

Nick, who has been shaving for decades, said these felt different from the usual cuts suffered while shaving.

The gardener even suffered nightmares for months following the incident.

He said: “I had a bad experience with operations and blood in the past and it took me straight back and I kept seeing blood on my face in my dreams. It was a bad time for me.”

After inspecting the razor, the landscape gardener found that one its blades was detached.

Mr Silverthorn decided to sue the razor manufacturer after the wounds took weeks to heal and left him with scars.

He quickly took pictures of his bleeding face and made sure to keep the razor, box and receipt.

He reached out to product liability specialists Express Solicitors, who contacted Sainsbury’s and were referred to Wilkinson Sword.

After sending the product for tests, the razor-producing giant offered to settle with Mr Silverthorn for £5,000.

Silverthorn said: “This was no ordinary shaving cut. It sliced my skin.

“My cuts bled for over twenty minutes. I took action to protect others as they may not be as lucky as me.

“This was a serious fault. It was a matter of principle to take the big boys on and I did and won.”

Jack Evans, the product liability expert who settled the case, added: “Not many people who cut themselves shaving would think to sue one of the World’s biggest razor companies.

“But Nick did and by keeping the razor as proof he won a settlement. It just shows that if you are injured by any product there may be a valid claim no matter how big the company are.

What a Way to Start the Year 2025- What a Way to Start the Year 2025 – Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

What a Way to Start the Year 2025

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba Reflected

EXCHANGE RATE; K28.3

Utter resistance or refusal by the mines to participate in the implementation of the Bank of Zambia’s Export Proceeds Tracking Framework, among other factors, has continued to cause a volatile foreign exchange market.

This initiative was designed to ensure transparency in tracking foreign exchange earned from exports through creation and establishing of mirror local bank accounts for export proceeds.

This initiative would have bolstered the availability of forex on the domestic market and strengthened the kwacha.

Other factors include the unfair tax incentives and unjust tax exemptions granted to the mining sector.

INFLATION RATE

Inflation Rate in Zambia increased to 16.70% in December from 16.50% in November of 2024.

The Inflation Rate in Zambia has averaged about 11.06 percent from 2005 until 2024, reaching an all time high of 24.60 percent in June of 2021 and a record low of 6.00 percent in December of 2011.

The inflation rate currently at a multi-year high, primarily driven by a severe drought that significantly increased food prices and put pressure on the Kwacha.

RISING NATIONAL DEBT

A special session of Parliament was summoned in December to approve the revision upwards of the 2024/2025 National Borrowing Plans.

Zambia’s external debt has increased from $11.9 billion to $14.7 billion since 2011, while domestic debt has risen from K178 billion to K236 billion during the same period.

By comparison, the Patriotic Front found an external debt of $2.8 billion debt in 2011, which surged to over US$11.9 billion by the time they left office in 2021. This means that the PF borrowed $9.1 billion in ten years.

FOOD BASKET AND COST OF LIVING CRISIS

The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) highlights the rising cost of living in Lusaka, as reflected in the December 2024 Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket (BNNB), which increased to ZMW 10, 833.47, up by ZMW 440.31 from November.

Key contributors included price hikes in essential food items such as vegetables, kapenta, and mealie meal, alongside rising costs for non-food essentials like toilet paper and sanitary pads.

DROUGHT/FLASH FLOODS

The great rainmaker, La Niña, which comes after the drought-causing El Niño, is weak. A weak La Niña caused an extended dry period in November and December that has threatened seasonal crop failure. Most farmers have been forced to replant.

PETROL SHORTAGE

The importation of diesel through the TAZAMA pipeline has stabilised diesel fuel on the market. However the post-electoral civil unrest underway in Mozambique and the introduction of punitive transit tax of $21,000 per fuel tanker truck in Zimbabwe has caused stock-outs and shortage of petrol across the country.

The high price of fuel however remains of serious concern and is the main driver of the cost of living crisis.

LOAD-SHEDDING

ZESCO has continued to provide more media statements and apologies of faults than it supplied power.

As of December 30, 2024, ZESCO is spending around $90 million per month to import about 500 megawatts of electricity.

ZESCO’s power imports are primarily sourced from: Eskom in South Africa, EDM in Mozambique, and The Southern African Power Pool market.

The extended power crisis has significantly caused and contributed to the down turn of the economy recording a paltry economic growth rate of 1.2% instead of the projected 4.7%.

With ZESCO Managing Director Victor Mapani gone, the crisis to export electricity amidst the worst drought in a century, presented damage to ZESCO and the economy.

Like Minister of Agriculture, Reuben Mtolo, who kept on exporting maize despite a forecast of critical shortages, these costly decisions exposed President Hakainde Hichilema as slow to take action on critical matters.

HIGH PRODUCTION COST

Parmalat Zambia has joined many companies that have suspended or shut down production due to load-shedding, high fuel prices, terrible economy. Effective April 1, 2025, Parmalat  will cease local production and close down the manufacturing plant that has been open since 1981 opting instead to import products from South Africa.

2,000 workers at Parmalat alone have been affected and will lose their jobs.

BY-ELECTIONS

Induced and caused by an obstinate leadership determined to destroy yhe Opposition. This purposeful wasteful expenditure demonstrates the insensitive, selfish and callous nature of Zambian politics.

CHOLERA OUTBREAK

Zambia experienced the worst cholera outbreak ever in 2023/2024 that saw the loss of 700 lives and over 20,000 people affected. Little water, sanitation, and environment projects have been done in affected areas to prevent another huge outbreak other than the Ministry of Health keeness to provide Guinea pig-like cholera vaccines.

HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES AND SHRINKING DEMOCRATIC SPACE

The human rights situation in Zambia continues to be of deep concern, with abuses being perpetrated by state agencies, and a shrinking democratic space, lack of indeoence of the democratic institutions such as the Judiciary and an emerging dictatorship .

Significant human rights issues included credible reports of arbitrary or unlawful killings, including extrajudicial killings; torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment by the government; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; serious restrictions on freedom of expression and media freedom, including violence and threats of violence against journalists, censorship, and enforcement of or threat to enforce criminal libel laws to limit expression; substantial interference with the freedom of peaceful assembly and freedom of association;

CORRUPTION

From the scandals in the mines and sectors, it is difficult to keep count of the theft and plundering being recorded.

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has reported the illicit flow of $3.1billion in 2024 alone.

Scandals such the 61 trucks, or 156 ambulances, the resignation of ACC Director General and subsequent dismissal of the ACC Board and the dubious award of K47billion to UPND cadres have literally shocked the country which expected President Hichilema to tackle the vice since he accuses his predecessor of engaging in corruption.

GIVEN LUBINDA’S DISGRACEFUL CONDUCT AT DANDY CRAZY’S FUNERAL VINDICATES ZAMBIANS

GIVEN LUBINDA’S DISGRACEFUL CONDUCT AT DANDY CRAZY’S FUNERAL VINDICATES ZAMBIANS

PRESS RELEASE
Contact : Cheelo Katambo
Deputy Media Director
UPND

7th January, 2025

LUSAKA – The United Party for National Development (UPND) strongly condemns the opportunistic and disrespectful behavior exhibited by Mr. Given Lubinda during the funeral of Wesley Chibambo, popularly known as Dandy Krazy, held yesterday.

Mr. Lubinda should have known better that funerals are a time for reflection, respect, and unity, not a time for political posturing and his decision to exploit this moment of mourning for personal and political gain is a clear violation of the peaceful and respectful environment that the UPND administration has diligently worked to create.

Under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND, Zambia has experienced a shift towards a more peaceful, inclusive, and respectful political environment. The country is no longer marked by the political violence and bloodshed that characterized the Patriotic Front (PF) era. Zambians are now enjoying a period of healing, unity, and national reconciliation. Mr. Lubinda’s conduct at the funeral starkly contrasts this new era and demonstrates his failure to embrace the spirit of peaceful coexistence and respect that is being championed by the UPND.

During a time when the nation is moving forward, Mr. Lubinda’s actions serve as a painful reminder of the political toxicity and opportunism that plagued the PF government. He has demonstrated a complete disregard for the values of integrity, dignity, and unity that we, as Zambians, hold dear. His behavior is a clear example of why the Zambian people rejected the PF and voted for a leadership that would prioritize peace over division, respect over self-interest.

We would like to commend Minister of Youth, Sports, and Arts, Elvis Nkandu, for his exemplary conduct at the funeral through his presence, which was marked by respect and humility and reflects the true leadership we have come to expect from the UPND.

Mr. Nkandu’s maturity and oneness with the people is a shining example of what Zambian leadership should look like – putting the people first, maintaining dignity, and respecting the sanctity of such solemn occasions.

The UPND remains committed to creating a political environment that prioritizes peace, unity, and respect for all citizens, especially during moments of mourning. We call on all political leaders to emulate this spirit of maturity and unity. Funerals should never be used for political gain, and we urge Mr. Lubinda to reflect on his actions and issue an apology to the family of Dandy Krazy and to the Zambian people.

This incident should serve as a powerful reminder that Zambia deserves better – better leadership, better values, and better conduct from those who seek to lead us. The UPND will continue to foster a political culture that promotes respect, peace, and national healing.

ZESCO CAUTIONS ON POWER GENERATION AS LAKE KARIBA WATER LEVELS SHOW SLIGHT RISE

ZESCO CAUTIONS ON POWER GENERATION AS LAKE KARIBA WATER LEVELS SHOW SLIGHT RISE

ZESCO Limited has issued a statement cautioning that, despite a slight rise in Lake Kariba’s water levels, the reservoir’s usable storage remains critically low, posing challenges for sustainable hydropower generation.

According to ZESCO Spokesperson Matongo Maumbi, the water level at Lake Kariba has risen to 475.87 meters, marginally above the minimum operational level of 475.50 meters. However, this figure remains significantly below last year’s level of 477.28 meters. Usable storage stands at a mere 2.61%, compared to 12.32% during the same period in 2024, as reported by the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA).

Challenges for Power Generation
ZESCO noted that while the slight increase in water levels is encouraging, it is insufficient to sustain higher power generation. The utility emphasized the need to maintain reduced generation levels to prevent exhausting the reservoir further, especially with unpredictable rainfall patterns in the region.

“Our priority is to safeguard Lake Kariba’s long-term functionality as a critical electricity resource. Increasing power generation prematurely could deplete the reservoir, leaving the nation vulnerable if the rains do not continue,” Maumbi stated.

Diversification and Conservation Efforts, ZESCO highlighted ongoing efforts to diversify Zambia’s electricity mix by investing in solar energy to reduce reliance on hydropower. The utility also encouraged citizens to adopt energy-saving practices and use electricity efficiently during this challenging period.

“We extend our gratitude to the Zambezi River Authority for their crucial role in monitoring and managing water levels at Lake Kariba. Protecting this vital resource requires careful planning and responsible decision-making,” the statement read.

Looking Ahead as Zambia hopes for continued rainfall to replenish Lake Kariba, ZESCO reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring a stable and sustainable electricity supply. “Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work towards a sustainable electricity future for Zambia,” Maumbi concluded.

GUEST ARTICLE: A new beginning is possible if Lungu retires

By Amos Chanda

Following the Constitutional Court judgement of 10 December 2024 which barred former president Dr. Edgar Lungu from running for high office again, there has been accelerated efforts to re-align the balance of power not just in the main opposition Patriotic Front (PF), but in other opposition parties as well.

This landmark development, coming as it did, on the back of an evidently draining, and unprecedented factionalism in the PF, has left many confused about the former ruling party’s direction both in the short and long term.

The court decision against the former president, almost a month now, seems to have done very little to change the PF’s inclinations into the lingering uncertainty that has come to define its post-government era.

Dr. Lungu or ECL as he is fondly known, remains its leader, and quite curiously, with some within his inner circles, maintaining he is still the PF’s, and Tonse alliance candidate for the August 2026 presidential elections.

Whether this is just for mischief purposes or sheer political brinkmanship, it does not help the standing of ECL as real contender in his current circumstances.

He requires a retreat into his deserved place of honour as the country’s leading statesman.

His own prompt response to the court’s judgement was that he accepts the verdict. But he added he has other ambitions, which he termed “Plan B,” ostensibly pointing to his desire to stay in the political boxing ring long after this watershed moment of his political career.

There are many who think the time for ECL to reconsider his position has never been more important.

His position as an opposition figure strikes conflicting signals almost simultaneously, both as a unifying and polarizing figure in both the PF and the broader opposition.

He has met various opposition leaders and sometimes, swiftly moving to clarify, his engagements with any of them did not mean an endorsement (for president) for the 2026 elections.

His own party remains in semi-paralysis regarding the long delayed leadership primaries to choose his successor.

A dozen of them paid a hefty K200,000 nomination fee to vie for the top seat. But those who control the levers of power in the PF knew all this while, that the planned convention won’t take place and so, these primaries were just a ruse.

And unknown to the other aspirants and the power holders in the PF, one of the hopefuls, Miles Sampa, organized a hurriedly convened gathering to ordain himself as leader of the politically dozing PF.

Many issues have come and gone regarding this matter and the party’s fate remains in the grudgingly slow processes of the courts of law, the least suited place anyone serious can hope to play any meaningful politics.

Even those without political science degrees know that politics are best practiced anywhere but the courts of law. Even the best of lawyers who argue these political cases in courts simply practice the law, and not politics.

Mr Sampa has his own experiences with the courts on the flip side things. His own erstwhile leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Robert Chabinga seem safely in charge as the leader of the PF,in and outside the House. This makes it three presidents(ECL, Sampa and Chabinga)for the same party of the green fame.

Between the courts’(expected) decisions, and the 2026 general election, there is only 18 months.
On the side of life, one can’t tell the feelings of the dead, but it must be a sure disappointment for Mr. Micheal C. Sata, the legendary founder of the party he remarkably led into government within ten years of its formation from relative obscurity.

ECL’s delayed departure from the political stage does not make the case of a smooth transition any easier for the PF.

His image as a statesman, is not enhanced by the polarization that inevitably defines our brutal machine party politics in Zambia.Yet the succession in the PF is long overdue.
It has always been.

The lack of clarity on his retirement has subdued any genuine efforts at the emergency of a new unifying figure, some 40 long months since the PF lost power to the UPND.

But it does seem some sort of transition in both the PF, and therefore in the Tonse alliance could be underway, albeit in some obscured form.

Tonse, under ECL’s chairmanship, announced last week that it will field candidates for any upcoming by-elections and in the 2026 general elections under the NCP or National Congress Party, a key constituent member of the alliance.

This entails a departure from the PF as the flag-bearer of the opposition alliance, but still in a murky form.

This lack of clarity as to who leads the “former” PF into any alliance, undermines not just the viability of such an alliance but also the position of the PF in that alliance. Former here refers to the implied transition of the PF into the NCP, one the one hand, and the tripartite claim on its leadership on the other.

The PF, without its own (eligible) presidential candidate, simply diffuses itself into any alliance as a weakened entity.

It means the green PF, or any of its offshoot(s) still does not have a definitive leader into 2026.
The reason, for any reason(s), behind the status quo, remains the delayed departure of ECL from the centre of the PF.

Ahead of Tonse, was the much touted UKA, or United Kwacha Alliance which remains on the brink of a descent into the peripheries without the participation of the mainstream PF, whose significant parliamentary presence today, makes the very existence of our democracy possible.

Yet ECL is still very much present in some circles of UKA but not with the full backing of his party. Not only that, he is involved with the independent parties such as Zambia Must Prosper of Kelvin Fube Bwalya, Socialist Party of Fred Mmembe, and other smaller parties.

His stated mission is to unite the opposition. But time seems short before the campaign season sets in.

But in a labyrinth of our fiercely competitive messaging environment, the PF is lacking the much needed clarity it needs to unseat an incumbent party with a noticeably formidable campaign machinery.

A comfortably united UPND, buoyed by all the elements of incumbency, has enhanced the ruling party’s pole position towards the 2026 polls in the light of a disunited opposition.

The crisis of identity in the main opposition, and the many encumbrances on the former president as its leading figure, does not enhance opposition prospects for 2026.

An opposition leader who is not an ex-president, can, figuratively get away with  “murder”, which ECL can’t.

So,the pronounced advantages of ECL as the PF’s main flag bearer may just be as many as there are disadvantages, therefore, bringing about some kind of net-zero effect for the chances of the PF, with him as leader.

Ideally, any celebration of imminent demise of the main opposition party, a former ruling party at that, would be an illiberal disposition.

But the reality of the rigors of our fiercely competitive multiparty politics, makes it reasonably expected that it would not be the job of the ruling party to keep the opposition united.

Cornelius Mweetwa, the chief government spokesperson recently mocked the PF about this situation.

In a democracy, the methods of competition are obviously reasonably expected to be fair, but in the main, the PF seems to have set itself on a downward descent into possible oblivion when it allowed itself a demoralizing vacuum that has given way to months veritable chaos.

The basis upon which ECL anchored his return to active politics was mainly that he wanted to defend democracy as he put it, and that he could not square it up with his conscious, that a party that gave him the presidency should be killed on his watch.

He said he would unite the opposition and, quite more motivating for him, run for the presidency.
He mobilized and secured the nomination of the Tonse alliance as candidate for the 2026 presidential election.

But the intervening Constitutional Court judgement seemed to have turned upside down all his permutations for high office again.

The merits or a lack thereof, of his arguments for the comeback notwithstanding, the reality of the December 10 court decision is that the Electoral Commission of Zambia won’t accept his nomination papers if, as some in his circles are insisting, he would be still be a candidate elections next year.

If this main reason for his comeback is realistically no longer feasible, what is the next best option for him to contribute to national development?

I should think that a retreat into retirement and resumption of his coveted role of statesman would do him a lot of good.

With all of 68 years behind him, seven of which in challenging service as Head of State, any more years of canvassing as an opposition leader can, and will almost definitely be very punishing on him.

The case for retirement is inevitable. The emergency of another leader is the only viable option for the PF.

This then, should open a possibility of a genuine dialogue between ECL and President Hakainde Hichilema.

The two definitely need a talking relationship, in national interest. They do not necessarily need a political “love affair,” but a working relationship.

The commanding heights of their positions in Zambia’s body of politics makes the need for a working relationship a national imperative.

This relationship must avoid the toxic elements of unbridled partisanship, but adopt a broad-based national agenda that must promote the widest possible consensus among the people.

The political rivalry between HH and ECL, is on course to become the longest-running, most coarse, and most personally disagreeable of all others Zambia has witnessed between presidents and their predecessors.

The nation can’t go on like this. The nation has previously witnessed ugly scenes out of contests between a former president and an incumbent.

There was a rivalry between former presidents Kenneth Kaunda and Fredrick Chiluba but there were moments of respite. Occasional photo opportunities provided the desired reassurance the nation needed to understand that the two men’s differences were more political than personal.

We also witnessed some of the most vitriol exchanges between former presidents Levy Mwanawasa and Micheal Sata, but again there were moments of re-assurance in more ways than one.

So were such invective episodes between presidents Sata and Rupiah Banda. But the two former governors of Lusaka and ex- youth leaders of UNIP, fully understood the weight of responsibility they shouldered for the nation.

Now, as fate would have it, we only have two men in that league. One former, and one incumbent. The two must have a working relationship.
An amicable end to their hostilities is not only good for their mental health, but for the country too.

A restoration for ECL is possible but only within a framework of a reconciled arrangement, whether such an outcome is enforced (morally,or otherwise.

Both sides must take an introspective and inevitably painful critical steps backwards and recommit their fidelity to mother Zambia.
This country gave them the greatest gift it can ever afford any of its son or daughter.
They fully understand this. I should hope they do.

On either side, moderates must reign in zealots to allow for a possible new beginning between these two important leaders of our country.
Cheerleaders will be reserved a place at a time when a new way has been set by HH and ECL.

Now is a time for tough and honest reflections.
This is not a time for a winner-take-all type of posturing.

On any given time, a working relationship between the incumbent and the former president(s)should always be desirable.

Unjustified, unending contests, rancour and disapproval for the sake of it, between the former and the sitting president can only breed the ugly undesirable outcomes.

Previous references in this regard point to ominous dark precedents we must all work to prevent.

There is no doubt in my mind however, that the Church universal, our very soul and moral compass of the nation will continue to intervene towards a positive outcome.

I should hope they are doing so. There’s no tiring away from this very difficult, yet noble cause.

By Ambassador Lazarous Kapambwe ( Special Envoy to the President of Zambia)

In Zambia, the more things change, the more themy remain the same. As the French would say, “plus ca change, plus de la meme chose!”.

We are lauded the world over: for being the second country in Africa after Benin to successfully & peacefully change from a one-party to a multi-party democracy. The first country in the region to change from an independence era icon President (Kenneth Kaunda) to a new one Frederick Chiluba), from an independence winer political party (UNIP) to a new one (MMD). One of the few countries in Africa where incumbent Presidents & incumbent political parties lose elections, accept defeat & peacefully hand over power.

Yet, the fortunes of the country remain the same, fluctuating only marginally either side of the scale, but otherwise on a trajectory of worsening, rather than improving. The economy remains in the hands of foreigners & multinational corporations; we remain inordinately dependent on copper; our agriculture remains stunted & hardly able to feed & guarantee our food security.

Our politicians behave no differently from their predecessors, their policies not any different. The political rhetoric changes, a la Animal Farm, from “two legs bad” while in opposition to “two legs good” while in government.

The state police & security apparatus, much reviled by the Opposition as instruments of reppression of the ruling party, become instruments of “law & order” by the former “Opposition” now in government. This vicious circle & cycle continues.

Former friends become foes, former foes become friends. What was corruption becomes empowerment, what was empowerment becomes corruption. What was tribalism becomes regional balancing; what was unprofessional in years past becomes the practice of choice presently.

The cadres of yore become the “professional” civil servants of now!!! The unqualified become the qualified. Those in the constituency of the new Ministers, those who are relatives & friends of the Ministers suddenly become the most qualified to occupy the civil service posts of Ministries.

Being used to this, being used to unfulfilled promises,  being a patient, understanding & forgiving species, Zambians shrug their shoulders & wait to pass their verdict at the next election. Given that we are not always that resolute, or that principled, oftentimes our disappointment, our anger, our resolve is assuaged at every election campaign cycle by “incentives”, handouts, or new promises that we forlonly believe will be kept by our politicians, this time around. Give them time, give them a second chance. After all, does the Bible not say “forgiveness is devine?”. Are we not a “Christian Nation”? It says so in our national Constitution, no less!!

And so it goes. Meanwhile, the poverty continues & worsens; the plunder of our resources continues & worsens. Our children die, buried in sink-holes & collapsed tunnels in “illegal” mines. After all, aren’t our children illegal & involved in “criminal activities” of mining in places that they have no title deeds to? Aren’t our people poor because they are “lazy” & suffer from a “poverty mentality”? It’s all their fault!!!

Oh, by the way, Zambia is now the biggest producer of emeralds in the world, the utmost top quality. Who owns the emerald mines?Does it really matter?

Oh, Zambia and DRC have 70% of global deposits of copper & cobalt, which are essential in the production of electric batteries. And manganese. And lithium. Critical  minerals & rare-earth elements– we have those too!!! Sugilite? Check!! Gold? Check!! Tin, lead & zinc? Check that too!!!

DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA IS NO DIFFERENT FROM KAMBWILI, HE HAS A DIVISIVE SLIPPERY MOUTH – Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Mr. Syakalima’s Shameful Remarks: A Call for Leadership That Unites, Not Divides

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

On January 1, 2025, News Diggers reported an outrageous statement allegedly made by Mr. Douglas Syakalima, the Minister of Education, in which he referred to members of the Patriotic Front (PF) as “monkeys.” Such language, coming from someone in a position of national leadership, is not only deeply offensive but also profoundly dangerous. It highlights an utter disregard for the principles of unity, respect, and national cohesion that are essential for Zambia’s progress.

This is far from the first time Mr. Syakalima has shown such reckless disregard for decency. He has previously disparaged the people of Luapula Province, claiming they suffer from a “poverty of the mind.” These are not mere insults—they are a direct assault on the dignity of entire communities, an outright dismissal of their struggles, and an attack on the very essence of servant leadership.

Leadership Is a Sacred Responsibility, Not a Privilege

Mr. Syakalima, as the Minister of Education, must be reminded in no uncertain terms that his position is not a personal entitlement, but a responsibility entrusted to him by the Zambian people. His recent derogatory remarks about the Patriotic Front (PF) and his previous disparagement of Luapula Province residents reveal an appalling disregard for the citizens he is meant to serve.

The Ministry of Education is a critical institution, one that should foster inclusivity, growth, and unity. It is not a platform for reckless insults or divisive rhetoric. If Mr. Syakalima cannot rise above petty name-calling and degrading behavior, he must be told clearly: his position is not guaranteed. Leadership is earned through service, respect, and accountability—not through arrogance and inflammatory language.

The Zambian people are demanding leaders who act with objectivity, maturity, and vision, not leaders who pit one group against another for political gain. Mr. Syakalima must recognize that failure to rise to this occasion is not just an insult to his office, but to the very people who entrusted him with it.

A Shameful Betrayal of Leadership

What kind of leader resorts to dehumanizing, hate-filled language to describe fellow citizens? Leadership is about bringing people together, not tearing them apart. It is about rising above personal grievances, fostering unity, and pursuing the common good.

Mr. Syakalima’s comments represent everything that leadership should reject. Referring to political opponents or entire communities in such vulgar, degrading terms sets a dangerous precedent of hostility and division that weakens national unity. It is childish, reckless, and utterly unworthy of the office he holds. True leadership demands the ability to transcend petty squabbles and to inspire hope. Mr. Syakalima’s words are a betrayal of the trust placed in him to lead and uplift the nation.

The Far-Reaching Damage

Mr. Syakalima’s rhetoric is not only harmful to the PF or Luapula Province—it undermines the entire nation. It deepens divisions, erodes public confidence in leadership, and distracts from the real issues facing Zambia, such as reforming the education system, creating jobs, and improving healthcare.

This kind of language is toxic. It legitimizes hate speech, perpetuates a culture of insults, and turns political discourse into an arena of personal attacks. It shifts the focus away from governance and toward sowing division, making public institutions battlegrounds instead of platforms for national progress.

The Youth Are Watching

Perhaps the most insidious impact of Mr. Syakalima’s words is their effect on Zambia’s youth. As Minister of Education, he is responsible for shaping the future of the nation. Yet, with his rhetoric, he is sending a dangerous message to young people: that intolerance, insults, and hatred are acceptable in political life.

This is a direct betrayal of the youth. At a time when Zambia’s young people are struggling with unemployment, limited opportunities, and an education system in dire need of reform, they deserve leaders who inspire, unify, and provide hope. Instead, Mr. Syakalima is normalizing hate speech and intolerance, tarnishing the moral fabric of society, and robbing the next generation of the example they deserve.

A Call to Accountability

Words have consequences. Mr. Syakalima’s reckless language must not go unchecked. The Zambian people deserve leaders who focus on solutions, who build consensus, and who treat every citizen with respect, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or region.

Hate speech, insults, and dehumanization have no place in Zambian politics or public office. Leaders must understand that their words shape the nation’s discourse, and they are entrusted with the sacred duty of upholding the values of unity, diversity, and respect.

A National Reflection

Now is the time for all Zambians to demand better from their leaders. We cannot allow our political culture to degenerate into a cesspool of insults and personal vendettas. Zambia’s democracy, with its rich diversity and commitment to debate, must remain a beacon of unity and progress. Mr. Syakalima, and others like him, must reflect on the damage they have caused and the example they set for the country.

We must reject divisive, hate-driven leadership and instead champion those who lead with respect, inclusivity, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of all citizens. The Zambian people will not be divided by the toxic rhetoric of a few. Our future demands leaders who unite, not divide—leaders who serve with integrity and inspire hope.

The Way Forward

Zambia is at a crossroads. Our challenges are vast, but so are the opportunities. To overcome them, we need leaders who rise above personal differences and work tirelessly for the common good. We need leaders who see Zambia as one nation, united in purpose and shared destiny.

Mr. Syakalima’s actions serve as a stark warning about the dangers of irresponsible leadership. Let this moment be the turning point. Let Zambians demand accountability, respect, and unity from their leaders. Let us reject hate speech, dehumanization, and division and instead champion a vision for a stronger, more united Zambia.

The power of words can build or destroy. It is time to demand leadership that builds. Zambia deserves nothing less.

The 156 CDF Ambulance Scandal

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba writes;

The 156 CDF Ambulance Scandal

When the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) flagged the  purchase and supply of 156 ambulances under the CDF vault  at a cost of $13million as highly irregular procurement, Local Government Permanent Secretary for Technical Service,Nicholas Phiri defended the illegal procurement claiming that the aim was to empower local suppliers.

The Ministry deliberately refused to buy from Toyota Zambia or Nissan CFAO, or any franchise holder affiliated to manufacturers.

It wasn’t long before the contracted suppliers failed to deliver in the 20 weeks period given and have since missed the deadlines of June 30th,2024 and December 31st, 2024.

Another extension has been given of 31st May 2025.

However Phiri was quickly embarrassed when details emerged that a foreign national, Sujit Shanani was identified as the beneficial owner of ACE Pharmaceuticals, one of the suppliers of the ambulances.

It became clear that the Zambia
Public Procurement
Authority (ZPPA) Circular No. 1 of 2023, which reserves CDF-funded
procurements for
Zambian citizens, was breached with impunity.

Shanani has since been linked to the former Minister of Health, Silvia Masebo, and his company was awarded seven (7) more contracts by the Zambia Medical and Suppliers Agency (ZMMSA).

Shanani, an Indian national resident in Zambia, registered a local firm called Ace Pharmaceuticals using his workers.

Records show, Shanani has obtained over seven (7) contracts with the government at ZMMSA under limited bidding (single sourcing).

A check at PACRA revealed that Surij registered as shareholders, his workers Panetta Masala and  Sandiwile Piwase Stephanie Banda and Director, Manjit Singh Basan but he is the signatory and his brother at an account held at the Indo Zambia Bank Limited.

The registered business premises for Ace Pharmaceuticals is a pharmacy located in the sprawling Garden Compound in Lusaka.

Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gary Nkombo joined in the defence and told Parliament that the delay in supplying all 156 ambulances procured under CDF was not a scandal.

Nkombo said at least 50 ambulances will be in the country by December 31, 2024, with the remaining 106 to be delivered by May 31, 2025.

Only 11 ambulances have been delivered so far.

Minister of Health, Dr. Elijah Muchima says he is tired of the numerous stories about the ambulances.

Zambia’s Nation Building Efforts and Collective Identity- Rethinking our Development Path : A Review and Commentary on Amb. Kapambwe’s Reflections
By Savior Mwambwa
I recently read Ambassador Lazarus Kapambwe’s thought-provoking two-part analysis on Zambia’s development journey entitled “The problem with Zambia: A self-evaluation” (Part One + Part Two).
In his reflections, Amb. Kapambwe’s critically examines the persistent issues in Zambia’s political and economic landscape. He argues that, despite notable democratic progress, including peaceful transitions of power, Zambia faces challenges like economic stagnation, heavy reliance on copper, and foreign-dominated industries. Politically, there’s a cycle of unfulfilled promises and shifting allegiances, impacting governance and public trust he goes on. He points out the paradox of rich natural resources, like emeralds and copper, being poorly managed, leading to continued poverty and exploitation. The article calls for a reevaluation of policies and practices to truly benefit the Zambian people.
Amb. Kapambwe’s insights deserve our attention, especially as we grapple with transforming our nation’s potential into prosperity. Let me share some of my  quick thoughts on what makes his analysis particularly noteworthy and where I believe it could be strengthened.
What Struck Me Most
First, let me say this – it’s refreshing to see such honest analysis from a senior diplomat. But what really caught my attention was how Amb. Kapambwe frames our democracy paradox. Here we are, celebrated across Africa for our peaceful transitions, yet struggling to translate this political achievement into economic gains for ordinary Zambians. Having worked in development for years, I’ve seen how this disconnect plays out in real time.

His “Animal Farm” analogy particularly resonates with my observations. We’ve all witnessed this pattern: opposition parties fiercely criticize government policies, only to maintain similar approaches once in power. It’s not just about individuals making poor choices – it’s about systemic patterns that persist regardless of who’s in charge.

The Identity Question
Perhaps most profound is  Amb. Kapambwe’s exploration of Zambian identity. “What exactly do we mean when we say we are Zambians?” This question has haunted me throughout my career in development. It reminds me of Amartya Sen’s work on development and identity – the idea that how people view themselves fundamentally shapes development outcomes.
What’s Missing
While Amb. Kapambwe’s analysis is strong, I see several additional critical areas that need deeper exploration:
Technology and Development: Given the booming of various tech initiatives in Lusaka, I’m surprised by the limited discussion of technology’s role. Our young population is incredibly tech-savvy – just look at the growing tech hub in Lusaka. We need to seriously discuss:
·       How e-governance could cut through our notorious bureaucracy
·       Using digital solutions for better resource monitoring
·       Enabling citizen participation through technology
The Financial Architecture Question: This can’t be emphasized enough. We need to rethink:
·       Our approach to development finance institutions ( including national development banks, agro financing banks, CEC) that are fit and adapted to making capital affordable and available for local SMEs and local private sectors as drivers of growth
·       How we finance local participation in mining and all sectors of the economy including emergent ones
·       The relationship between IFIs, FDI, and local business growth
Regional Integration: Through out Africa we understand how crucial regional integration is. We need to better understand:
·       Our position within SADC and COMESA
·       Opportunities from the African Continental Free Trade Area
·       How to build regional value chains
Environmental Sustainability: Given the global climate crisis, this deserves more attention. We should focus on:
·       Setting clear environmental standards for mining
·       Developing green economy opportunities for SMEs and Youth
·       Planning for climate change impacts and understanding implications on development
Making It Happen
Here’s what I believe we need for successful implementation:
1.       Clear Frameworks: We can’t just talk about change – we need specific, measurable goals. I’ve seen too many good ideas fail for lack of clear implementation plans.
2.       Strong Accountability: Having worked in policy monitoring, I know how crucial this is. We need robust systems to track progress and hold people accountable.
3.       Political Will: This is perhaps the most challenging aspect. How do we maintain momentum for reforms across political transitions?
4.       Citizen Engagement: Change can’t just come from the top. We need active citizen participation in shaping and implementing solutions.
Looking Forward
What excites me about Amb. Kapambwe’s analysis is how it combines brutal honesty with hope for home-grown solutions. But moving from analysis to action will require all of us to engage deeply with these issues.
Some Questions worth pondering on:
·       How do we build institutions that outlast political cycles?
·       What role should civil society play in driving these changes?
·       How can we ensure economic reforms benefit ordinary Zambians?
As we await Part Three of Amb. Kapambwe’s analysis, I’d love to hear Zambians and others  thoughts on these issues. What resonates with your experience? What solutions do you see?

SOCIAL MEDIA ALMOST CRASHED NORA HAUPTLE  DEAL – KAMANGA

Newly appointed Copper Queens Coach Nora Hauptle deal almost crashed by social media – FAZ

By Roland Kalangu
The Football Association of Zambia-FAZ- has welcomed new Zambia Women National Team coach Nora Hauptle who takes over from Bruce Mwape.

In a Statement on the ‘President’s Corner’ post on the FAZ Facebook page monitored by Astro Tv Sport today, FAZ says it took a while to get Nora to sign up for the Copper Queens with the deal almost crashed in its infancy by the perils of social media.
And FAZ says Bruce Mwape will be sent to Morocco for the CAF Pro License as the association continue to build capacity.
“We sign off by welcoming the new Zambia Women National Team coach Nora Hauptle who takes over from Bruce Mwape.

It took a while to get her to sign up for the Copper Queens with the deal almost crashed in its infancy by the perils of social media. We are happy that all the parties involved conducted themselves with the utmost levels of professionalism despite the media frenzy that threatened to scupper the deal,” FAZ says.

“We cannot thank Mwape enough for the job he has done with the Copper Queens over the years since his appointment in 2018. He has no doubt provided a strong base for the incoming technical bench to build on. We are continuing to build capacity in Mwape as we are sending him to Morocco for the CAF Pro License just like we did with Coach Wedson Nyirenda.”

Meanwhile the Football Association of Zambia says Mwape will be re-assigned to the junior teams where his expertise will be utilised in an advisory role.

“The long term goal is to have local coaches manage all national teams but we have to invest in their world class training to prepare them for the eventual take over. Mwape will be re-assigned to our junior teams where his expertise will be utilized in an advisory role. We have given Hauptle clear targets starting with the forthcoming Women Africa Cup of Nations that is very high on our radar”, part of the FAZ statement reads.

FAZ on Saturday announced the signing of the former Switzerland defender and now former Ghana Black Queens coach Nora Hauptle on a three-year deal.

“Zambia and indeed the world has lost a musical genius. But I have lost the love of my life,” Dandy Krazy’s wife Hellen Chalwe penned down in a tribute as the country bid farewell to her husband yesterday.

“I will live to remember that fateful night on December 31, 2024 when I received that call informing me of an accident that changed my life negatively. That road accident forever altered the course of our lives.”

On Monday, Zambians braved the rains to send off Wesley Chibambo AKA Dandy Krazy whose works and talent were unmatched.

At a ceremony held at the Agricultural and Commercial Show grounds, the event was filled with mixed emotions, laughter, sorrow, dances and gratitude for his talent.

But, despite the hundreds of Zambians who filled the Lusaka Show grounds yesterday, no one could have known the 47 year old artiste better than his rib, Hellen – the woman he spent  over 14 years in marriage with and raised five children.

In her tribute, Hellen delivered a moving eulogy that captured the essence of the man she loved deeply.

Her words painted a portrait of not only an extraordinary artist but also a kind, gentle soul whose love and warmth defined the lives of those closest to him.

“From the first moment we crossed paths, I knew you were something special. Your talent was undeniable, and your passion for music was infectious,” Hellen stated in a speech read on her behalf.

“But beyond being a musician, you were a kind and gentle soul with a heart that loved deeply.”

Known for his energetic performances and music that resonated with Zambians from all walks of life, Dandy Krazy’s legacy extends far beyond his artistry.

Hellen described him as a visionary and dreamer whose music gave voice to the voiceless and touched countless lives.

“King Dandy, bashi Towela, you were more than just an extraordinary musician. You were a source of light to all who knew you. Your music came from the depth of your spirit, speaking to all who listened,” she said.

But to Hellen and their children, Dandy Krazy was much more than a public figure. He was a devoted husband and father whose love and playfulness filled their home with joy.

“Our home will not be the same because we have lost our personal entertainer, the children and I will miss the playful you, singing and dancing with us. You had an incredible ability to make everyone feel loved,” Hellen shared.

According to the widow, the tragic accident that claimed Dandy’s life served as a stark reminder of life’s fragility, leaving a void in the hearts of those who loved him and that despite the pain of his loss, she found solace in the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

“Your spirit will continue to live through your music, memories, and the countless lives you impacted. To your fans, friends, and family, know that his spirit is still with us—alive in every song, story, and memory we carry forward.”

“Rest in peace, my love. You will never be forgotten. Your music will echo through time, inspiring generations to dream, love, and create.”

Dandy Krazy’s funeral was attended by hundreds, a reflection of his immense popularity and the profound impact of his music on the nation.

His legacy as a trailblazer in Zambian music and a loving family man will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him.

Dandy Krazy succumbed to injuries following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of four others including his dancer, driver and backing vocalist in Kapiri Mposhi while headed to Kitwe for a new year’s performance…https://kalemba.news/local/2025/01/07/from-the-first-day-i-met-you-i-knew-you-were-something-special-dandys-widow/

GOVERNMENT REVEALS CONSTRUCTING 317 SCHOOLS, EXPANDING SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMME

GOVERNMENT REVEALS CONSTRUCTING 317 SCHOOLS, EXPANDING SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMME

GOVERNMENT has revealed that it is constructing 317 secondary schools across the country as a way of helping the two million children who have returned to school after the reintroduction of the free education policy.

According to Education minister Douglas Syakalima, 115 out of the 317 is being financed by government while 202 is supported by the World Bank through a project called the Zambia Education Enhancement Project (ZEEP).

Syakalima revealed that of the 202 that are sponsored by the World Bank, 120 schools are currently under construction in all the 10 provinces of Zambia and will be completed this year.

He disclosed that 82 Schools are already  operational with minor outstanding works such as Water and Electrical reticulation remaining.

“For those Schools government is funding, 69 have been completed and the remaining 46 are expected to be completed this year. Already 18 contracts have been signed and awarded while 11 are awaiting clearance from the Ministry of Justice,” he revealed.

“And more than two million children are back in school. The way the children came back into school, it means that they were thirsty for knowledge. It also tells you that the parents were not affording. We faced congestion and we introduced CDF for various construction and manufacturing of desks. We are also finishing up the schools that were not completed in the past 10 years.”

He added that government will continue employing teachers so as to address the teacher pupil ratio.

So far, since it took office, government has employed over 40,000 teachers countrywide to address the teacher pupil ratio.

“Government’s plan is that after bringing back children into school and employing teachers, the next step is to ensure that there is adequate school infrastructure,” he said.

Meanwhile, Syakalima revealed that the feeding programme in schools will be expanded from 77 to 106 districts across the country as it contributes to children’s nutritional requirements and academic performance.

He shared that government targets to feed five million learners from the current 2.3 million on the programme.

“We are increasing the number of districts benefiting from the School Feeding Programme because the drought affected some districts that were not covered by the school feeding programme.” stated Siakalima.

Appeal to Halt the Selling of Relief Maize to Vulnerable Citizens

Sikaile C. Sikaile writes;
Dear Mr. President Hakainde Hichilema ,

Subject: Appeal to Halt the Selling of Relief Maize to Vulnerable Citizens

Your Excellency,

I write to you with deep concern regarding the ongoing sale of relief maize to struggling citizens in rural areas. Today, while engaging with villagers from my Chiefdom, Nyawa, I was profoundly moved by their distressing accounts. Many expressed how, during this difficult period, they are forced to sell their few remaining livestock just to afford food being sold by the government food that is meant to offer relief in challenging times. One villager said, “This is January ba Sikaile, and we are selling our few cows to buy food from the government, which is supposed to rescue us during difficult times.”

Your Excellency, these words deeply touched me because many families in Nyawa own only four or five cows, which are their primary means of livelihood compared to Namwala. If this trend continues, how long will they be able to sustain themselves? Selling off the few animals they have threatens not only their food security but their long-term survival, as they will be left without livestock for ploughing and farming.

Additionally, Nyawa Chiefdom has been severely affected by livestock diseases over the past year, which have devastated local kraals. Despite the urgency of the situation, the Ministry of Livestock has made minimal efforts to effectively curb the spread of these diseases, especially under the current administration. Within my own capacity, I engaged various stakeholders to intervene, but the response has been limited, and livestock losses continue, further worsening the community’s vulnerability. The minister you had given us before was more proactive than the engineer who may have little knowledge about livestock farming.

I am humbly appealing to your government to consider distributing this relief maize free of charge, at least until June, while we observe the outcome of the late rains. Currently, villagers are paying K300 per 50kg bag of maize, a price that is beyond reach for most rural families who are not formally employed. These communities, with large households to support, are struggling to balance buying food and securing farming inputs like seeds for the planting season.

Some families in Nyawa have already sold all their livestock to afford food, while others have gone days without eating. This reality is urgent and severe, and I fear government officials may not be fully communicating the extent of the crisis on the ground. If you so wish do a random check and see for yourself.

Nyawa Chiefdom, historically one of the largest producers of white maize in Zambia, suffered devastating crop losses due to the recent drought. This once self-sufficient community now faces severe food insecurity. Your Excellency, how does your government plan to support the people of Nyawa during this critical time to help them recover and rebuild their livelihoods?

I therefore make this sincere appeal for your urgent intervention. Please consider directing the free distribution of relief maize to all affected communities across the country to safeguard lives and livelihoods during this critical period.

Your prompt attention and compassionate action in this matter will be greatly appreciated by the people of Nyawa and many others facing similar challenges.

Yours sincerely,

No Life Imprisonment For Kids – Court

GUEST ARTICLE: No Life Imprisonment For Kids – Court

By Dickson Jere

Two youngsters murdered a woman in Sinda – Eastern Province. They were arrested and charged with murder. After trial, the High Court found them guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The Judge did not find any “extenuating circumstances” to give them a lesser sentence.

Having been sentenced, the two youngsters appealed to the Court of Appeal against the life sentences, arguing that they were children at the time they committed murder and should therefore not have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

A panel of three Judges of the Court of Appeal was constituted to determine the appeal. Having looked at the court record, they determined thus;

“At the time the appellants were being sentenced, although their actual ages were not ascertained, it was not in dispute that they were below the age of 18 years at the time they committed the offence,” the Judges observed.

They further noted that in 2022, Parliament amended the Penal Code which prescribed the sentence for a person convicted of murder if such person is below the age of 18 years.

The Court of Appeal noted that the law then provided that a person under 18 years who is convicted of murder cannot be sentenced to death or life but rather detained during the President’s Pleasure.

“It follows, that having found that there were no extenuating circumstances, the trial Judge should have complied with the section 25(2) of the Penal Code and ordered that the appellants be detained during the President’s Pleasure,” the Judges ruled.

“In view of that error, we set aside the sentences of life imprisonment and we order that the appellants be detained during the President’s Pleasure, for this is the sentence that was in place at the time the appellants committed the offense,” the Court further guided.

Case citation – Juvenile D.B and Another v The People (Appeal No 27/2023) and Judgement delivered last month.

When a person is detained during the President’s Pleasure, a Report is supposed to be given to the President every six months indicating whether the behavior of the person has changed during rehabilitation. If the President is satisfied with the rehabilitation or treatment, that person can be released.

…..urges all political parties to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct

Tuesday January 7, 2025

The Advocates For National Development And Democracy (ANDD) has called for peaceful and issue based campaigns in the Petauke Central and Pambashe Parliamentary by-elections.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda is urging all political parties to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct set forth by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) during the electoral process.

Mr Banda said as the campaigns begin tomorrow, it is crucial that the focus remains on issue-based politics, specifically, development oriented agendas.

He stated that political campaigns should aim to address the economic challenges faced by the people and propose solutions that will improve the living standards of all Zambians.

He further called on all political parties, whether in government or opposition, to avoid engaging in political violence.

He reminded politicians that Zambians are not interested in violence, but in political progress and development that will bring tangible benefits to their communities.

“As ANDD, an organization dedicated to promoting democracy, sustainable socio-economic development, and human rights, we wish to call upon all political parties, including the UPND, Tonse Alliance, Citizens First (CF), Socialist Party (SP), and others, to conduct themselves peacefully and orderly as their respective candidates file nominations today for the upcoming Petauke and Pampeshe by-elections. “As an institution responsible for managing elections, the ECZ must enforce the Electoral Code of Conduct impartially to ensure a level playing field for all political players. Furthermore, we expect the ECZ to collaborate with the Zambia Police within the legal framework of the Republican Constitution to guarantee the safety and protection of all accredited Electoral Monitors during these elections. The security and well-being of all election stakeholders are paramount in upholding the integrity of the electoral process.”

Mr Banda said his organization is committed to working alongside all progressive stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission of Zambia, to promote good governance, uphold democratic principles, and foster social-economic development in the country.

He trusted that all political parties, the ECZ, and all other relevant bodies will act in the spirit of unity and progress to ensure that these by-elections are a model of peaceful democratic participation.

Leadership of the Zambia Association of musicians

Dear Musicians and Artists

Dear fellow mourners

Dear Zambia

I bring you fraternal condolences from the 6th Republican President and President of the PF and all members of the Tonse council of leaders.

President Lungu was meant to be here but due to some abrupt development he assigned me to represent him.

It is an enormous task to speak at the farewell celebration of such a distinguished social activist.

As all of you are aware Wesley chibambo aka Dandy Krazy was a recepient of Grand commander of freedom award in 2011 from the hand of the 5th republican President Michael Chilufya Sata.

The award was in recognition of of King Dandy’s contribution to the patriotic front through his music especially the anthem of Donchi Kubeba.

That is the reason why many of us in the PF are bereaved by his passing. Dandy was did not only sing for PF, he sang for Zambians.

Even when he met with his tragic accident he was on his way to perform and sing for Zambians. He touched many lives. This is the reason why his funeral has been graced by Zambian government officials.

Dandy was indeed a source of joy for many Zambians. That is the reason why so many Zambians have been mourning him since his passing. Not withstanding the fact that he was attacked at the Heroes Stadium not too long ago, the people who have turned out bid him farewell as so many. I’ve no doubt that even those who attacked him and celebrated his being attacked are mourning his passing.

Our hearts turn to the widow and the children.
We pray to God for the widow for the family and especially for the children.

In closing let me commend the family of artists for once again standing up together to send one of your own. Thank you all of you for coming in large numbers to send of your musician. For us in PF he was a lead campaigner.

Dandy we thank God for giving us you. Now we release you to go and join heavenly singers.

Go well king Dandy Krazy.

We shall remember Donchi Kabeba wilalila ashiii.

MUNDUBILE COMMENDS ECL’S LEADERSHIP IN OPPOSITION UNITY EFFORTS.

…. Says the family is growing, and this is owed to the wisdom and experience of President Edgar Lungu, who is undeniably a political giant.

Monday, January 6, 2025 (Smart Eagles)

Patriotic Front (PF) Mporokoso Member of Parliament, Hon. Brian Mundubile, has voiced his strong support for former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s call for intensified political campaigns ahead of the 2026 general elections. Speaking in Lusaka Sunday, Hon. Mundubile commended President Edgar Lungu for his strategic efforts in uniting opposition political parties, highlighting the recent political developments as evidence of his leadership.

“I wish to support former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s call on political players to intensify the campaigns ahead of the 2026 general elections,” said Hon. Mundubile. “I also commend him for the strides he is making towards uniting opposition political parties. On Saturday, we witnessed the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) officially join the Tonse Alliance, and there is a consideration for the Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) political party, led by Kelvin Bwalya Fube (KBF), to join as well.”

Hon. Mundubile emphasized the growing coalition of opposition forces under President Lungu’s guidance, describing it as a testament to his political acumen and experience.

“The family is growing, and this is owed to the wisdom and experience of President Edgar Lungu, who is undeniably a political giant. We, as his lieutenants, will continue to rely on his wisdom and guidance going forward,” he stated.

The Mporokoso MP expressed concerns about the performance of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), led by President Hakainde Hichilema. He underscored the need for opposition parties to unite and form a formidable alliance capable of challenging the government in the upcoming elections.

“It’s clear that the UPND and the government led by President Hakainde Hichilema have lost touch with reality on the ground. There is a need for the opposition to come together and assemble a team that will dislodge the ruling party,” he said.

Hon. Mundubile praised the opposition’s growing consensus on unity as the key to political success. He identified former President Lungu as the rallying figure for this movement, citing his role in orchestrating “Plan B,” which is now being implemented in a structured manner.

“After the eligibility case, President Lungu assured the nation that there was a Plan B, and that Plan B is now in motion. It’s encouraging to see that opposition political parties are aligning themselves with this vision to ensure its success,” Hon. Mundubile explained.

While details of Plan B remain under wraps, Hon. Mundubile expressed optimism about the initial steps being taken. He urged other well-meaning political leaders to join forces under President Lungu’s leadership to bring about a new era of governance.

“Efforts are positive so far, and any well-meaning opposition political leader should join forces with other parties under President Lungu to form the critical mass needed to usher Zambia into a new frontier with new leadership,” he remarked.

On behalf of PF Members of Parliament, Hon. Mundubile pledged continued support for President Lungu in his endeavors to unite and strengthen the opposition.

“We will continue to support President Lungu in his efforts, whether it’s in by-elections or other assignments aimed at embracing other political parties joining the alliance. It’s a timely call, and we appreciate the progress made so far,” he concluded.

Hon. Mundubile’s remarks underscore a renewed sense of purpose within Zambia’s opposition, with former President Edgar Lungu at the helm of a growing alliance seeking to challenge the UPND-led government.

Kapalasa cannot asses judges competence based on Judiciary website – State

Kapalasa cannot asses judges competence based on Judiciary website – State

THE State has argued that former Katuba constituency member of parliament Bampi Kapalasa cannot rely on the judiciary website to base his argument that Constitutional Court judges are inept in interpreting the constitution and matters bordering on human rights.

It says Kapalasa’s reasoning is wrong as the website does not show the qualifications of the judges.

Kapalasa petitioned the State in the Constitutional Court, seeking order nullifying the appointment of all judges of the Constitutional Court excluding the judge President professor Margaret Munalula.

He wants the Court to declare that all judges of the Constitutional Court, with the exclusion of the Judge president,on their dated of appointment as judges of the constitutional Court, did not have speclised training or experience in human rights or Constitutional law.

Kapalasa wants an order nullifying or reversing all decisions delivered by the judges of the the Constitutional Court, as the said decisions were delivered by judges who do not qualify to hold office of judge of the Concourt and were not competent to deliver the judgements.

He is also seeking an order among others directing all judges of the constitutional Court with the exclusion of the Judge president, to vacate office for failing to meet the the requirements of Article 141(b) and 141(2) of the constitution of zambia Chapter 1 volume 1 of the laws of Zambia as amended by the constitution of Zambia (amendment) Act no.2 of 2016 of the laws of Zambia.

In his petition Kapalasa argued that all the persons appointed to be judges of the constitutional Court with the exclusion of the judge president do not qualify to be appointed and hold or maintain their respective appointments as judges of the Concourt.

“They do not satisfy the requirement of article 141(b) and 141(2) if the constitution cap 1 volume 1 of the laws of Zambia as amended by the constitution of Zambia (amendment) Act no.2 of 2016, of the laws of zambia as they do not have specialised training or experience in human rights or Constitutional law as they do not have Masters Degrees in Human Rights or Constitutional law and the same has to be declared unconstitutional,” he said.

In its answer to the Petition sworn by Rodgers Kaoma deputy secretary of the Judicial Complaints Commission, the State said the appointment system of Judges ensures transparency and meeting the required criteria by requiring ratification by National Assembly pursuant to Article 140 as read with Article 220 (2)(b) of the Constitution.

Kaoma said the appointment process for all Judges serving in the Constitutional Court was duly followed as provided for under the Constitution of Zambia.

He said the Judges serving i n the Constitutional Court of Zambia went through the full
vetting process and their names were duly ratified by Parliament.

“ The Judges of the Constitutional Court possess the relevant specialised training
or experience i n human rights o r constitutional law as required under Article 141(1)(b) of t h e Constitution,” Kaoma said.

The issues regarding the interpretation of specialised training and experience in human rights or constitutional law raised by the Petitioner were dealt with by this Honourable Court under cause number 2023/CCZ/005 and as such is res-judicata.

He prayed that the petition be dismissed.

…… safeguarding 12,500 jobs, reviews Dr Banda

Monday January 6, 2025

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Plc has increased production to 8,000 metric tons, thereby safeguarding 12,500 jobs.

KCM Board Chairman Dr. Moses Banda says when Vedanta Resources assumed management in August 2024, the business was under care and maintenance.

Dr. Banda said it is gratifying to note that employees received their 20% salary increment, and the once off bonus further the employees have been receiving their monthly salaries on time without any hindrances.

“In addition to supporting our employees, we have also made significant payments to our creditors. We made a payment of US$250 million to our creditors. This was paid to the scheme creditors by Vedanta which is being paid as per the process of the Scheme Administrator. All the scheme class 1 creditors have been paid in full and first tranche to scheme 2 has also been paid. In cases of a dispute these are being handled by the Scheme Adjudicator,” he said.

He said the payments are a demonstration of the firm’s commitment to meeting the financial obligations.

“Vedanta has pledged to spend US$20 million annually under the KCM Community Development Trust. Notable initiatives include:

Dr. Banda further said at the close of 2024, Vedanta Resources Limited was upgraded by S&P rating to B, reflecting funding flexibility, enhanced capital market access, and improved capital structure.

OPPOSITION MUST FIELD ONE CANDIDATE TO BEAT HH EASILY- MUHABI LUNGU

OPPOSITION MUST FIELD ONE CANDIDATE TO BEAT HH EASILY- MUHABI

Veteran politician Muhabi Lungu says the opposition must field one candidate to easily and quietly beat Hakainde Hichilema.

Lungu who served under first president Kenneth Kaunda says unfortunate some opposition parties think are so egoistic that they can win elections even after having performed badly in the last election:

I totally agree with this Statement. The way the numbers were in the last elections and how the Provincial demographics are in the last election Cycle, The opposition needs to have one credible ticket to put up against The UPND. If this is done, I believe that HH can be defeated quietly easily. However, as you say, too many leaders in the opposition think they can win; even though all of them for less than 1% in the last election. If you look at Historical data from 1991, that is 9 residential elections, all Presidential candidates who have stood more than once, some five times, All of them ( with the exception of Michael Sata) got worse and worse in scoring the more times they stood.

This is the case for Elaise Chipimo Jr, TJ Kaunda, General Miyanda, Nevers Mumba and even HH. He dropped from 25. 5% in 2006 to 18. Something in 2008 and obtain 19.9% of the total vote in 2011.

He only increased to 47% in 2015 because Sata died and all of a sudden the PF did not have a united candidate as ECL was chosen in an acrimonious situation. So, for any of the candidates in the last election to believe that they will Jump more than a 1,000 % to obtain 50 plus One, is an extremely, extremely Tall Order. We have to be realistic in politics candidates don’t jump from say 0.6% to 50 plus 1 between one five year election Cycle.

We in the opposition must identify one credible ticket to support or the most likely outcome is we can defeat by the UPND. This would be extremely reheatable. The problem is, truly, is oye little Egos.

If these egos are not tempered, it will be the undoing of all of us, because HH will come and fix all of us if he gets a second term.

The day I was Appointed Justice Minister, Is the Day I was Being Divorced – Hon. Princes Kasune

The day I was Appointed Justice Minister, Is the Day I was Being Divorced

Princes Kasune writes

#MyBirthday! Today l turn 49 years… clearly my life has been nothing else but a Miracle . That is why with all my imperfection and short comings my lips do not hesitate to say #OnlyGod or #JesusIsLord. How can l explain the fact that when l was 17 years we  lost both of our parents to AIDS.

As a means of survival and supporting myself/ my siblings to a larger extent having the #Blessers as they call them today became the  means of survival ( #SugarDads we called them back then). Although looking back nothing #Sugar about them, Just a bunch of older men preying on the young. A behavior l now find repulsive if not most of them border line pedophilia (although older women do that too, one may say fewer than men). Unfortunately one cannot change the past and l do not claim to have been a saint either.

It wasn’t long after that l would find myself pregnant as a teenager and technically forced into marriage to the father of my daughter at age 18. A man who was 24 years my senior..( so l was 18 years and he was 42 years old). Life was looking bleak. As if that’s not all by 21 years of age with now two small children…. am pronunced #HIVPositive. Those days surely one can’t blame the doctor who stated that l was likely only to live for 6 months only. As the doctor proceeded to encourage me   to live life with those remaining months of my life.

Fast Forward here we are 2025…almost 30 years of Living HIV Positive. From being a grade 11 High School drop out to completing my High school education with distinctions and finishing University with  2 Masters degrees from  NorthPark University in Chicago USA – one degree from the School of Business in Nonprofit Administration and the other degree from Seminary school with a  Masters in  Divinity . Did l mention that l graduated with Honors/ Distinctions from university too! How does someone against this background…. runs for office as Member of Parliament for Keembe Constituency in Zambia and firstever voting experience, win with a big margin to  become the first female MP for #KeembeConstituency! And first time ever for our UPND party to have won the seat in Keembe Constituency.

Later, at the discretion of his Excellency the President of The Republic of Zambia, I would be appointed the first  female ever to hold the office of the Chief Whip for  the Zambia National Assembly ( as a deputy). Once aga in September 2023 the President Hakainde Hichilema would see it fit to appoint me the First  Female to hold the office of Provincial Minister in Central Province of Zambia. Hardly 8 months in that office while minding my own business and enjoying my new job as provincial minister.

We as #FOLA ( the NGO l founded) had just raised enough money to build a clinic in Naswinsa  to supplement CDF efforts ( becoming the firstever clinic in Mashikili Ward). Excited from doing the ground breaking to start the clinic I get the call…. l have been appointment the Minister of Justice for the Republic of Zambia. Wow… this was Huge never in my wildest dreams. Once again making me the first female to ever hold this position……….. What many people didn’t know on that same day… I was in  front of a judge who pronounced my Divorce final. After many years of separation and exhausting Divorce procedure. Not to mention very expensive legal fees. Here l stood with two phones at the same time one in my left ear another in my right ear.

One side the phone was ringing non stop… As people from all over Zambia and abroad Congratulating me as the New Justice Minister. While in the other ear the Judge prounced ” Your Divorce is final, l wish you both the best.” All this took place on  June 5 2024. Mixed emotions ran  through my head and … Tears of both Joy and Sadness rolled down my face at the same time. Later l would gather myself with my friend, who in many ways is like a brother Mark Seymour who was with me when all this was  happening…. We shouted let’s Celebrate. And there…..  later l would meet with some of my constituency officials and few Councilors who only knew about the good news. So we celebrated and expressed our thanks and gratitude to his Excellency, the people of Keembe and Zambia at Large for this great honor and responsibility to serve the nation.

Which l am forever indebted to the President Hakainde Hichilema and the Zambian people. Today l found the encourage to pen it all as it happened. Although much more will be coming in my second book.  That’s why I am convinced it has been nothing but the grace of God. And as l turn 49 years of age today… I will be remissed if l did not say l have seen the mercy and hand of God. To all of you in my life l say thank you.

As a Mother, once a  wife and now grandmother of two l have experienced the UPs and Downs of life . As l like  to say, “in such a  short life   l have been to hell and back without any smoke of fire.” And Heavens have widely opened. Hence why on this  #Birthday l can once more say, “God l am #Grateful!

Tax hikes made outside the Budget- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Tax hikes made outside the Budget

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in its full 2025 Illustrative 2025 Budget Analysis, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), the Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) and the Ministry of Finance all did not highlight or mention these drastic tax changes that have recently been introduced.

These recent tax changes are probably as a result of the second supplementary budget or emergency adjustments made to the National Borrowing Plan.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, recently summoned a special sitting of Parliament  to deliberate on the Report of the Planning and Budgeting Committee regarding the Revised Annual Borrowing Plan for 2024.

Here are the new hiked taxes:

1. Property transfer tax rate on sale of land, buildings and shares increased to 8% from 5%

2. Rental income tax rate increased to 16% from 12.5% for anyone earning rental income of above K800,000 per annum.

3. Turnover tax rate increased to 5% from 4%.

4. More businesses to be relegated to Turnover Tax from Income Tax as the turnover threshold has been increased to K5million from K800,000 per annum.

5. If the Minister of Finance does not issue an SI to align the VAT registration turnover threshold to K5million per annum, then it would be possible for a single business to be on both VAT and Turnover Tax at the same time.

6. Mobile Money Levy to be applicable on Bank to Wallet Transfers, if the Minister of Finance does not issue an SI to provide for Exemptions. Meaning, Banks would need to begin accounting for this tax on bank to wallet transfers and remit to ZRA.

This budget came at a critical time as Zambia faced severe climate change impacts, Load-shedding, inflation, economic challenges, and ambitious growth targets amidst resource constraints.

The 2025 national budget focused on “Building Resilience for Inclusive Growth and Improved Livelihoods,” aiming for a 6.6% GDP growth rate by prioritizing investments in mining, agriculture, and infrastructure, with a key focus on addressing the energy deficit through increased renewable energy sources, while also aimed to reduce inflation to 6-8% and maintain a budget deficit of 3.1% of GDP.
All these targets have fallen flat on the face of Musokotwane as the economy has tanked.

My parents divorced when I was 4, I began my singing from the church choir- Dandy Krazy

My parents divorced when I was 4, I began my singing from the church choir, shared Dandy Krazy

BORN and raised in Wusakile Compound in Kitwe district on the Copperbelt, Wesley Moses Chibambo popularly known as Dandy Krazy’s journey began from humble beginnings to national stardom and captured the hearts of many.

He attended Kalela Primary School, where he excelled academically despite challenging circumstances after his parents divorced when he was just four years old, and was raised by his elder sister, alongside his twin siblings, in an environment of immense hardship, a story he shared with Diamond TV before his sudden demise.

Dandy Krazy’s father, a musician fondly known as “Bashi Mpundu,” in his compound instilled in him a love for music that would shape his future.

He started singing at his church as a tenor in the “Jesus Choir” at a young age, and Dandy’s natural talent for music and dance began to shine.

Drawing inspiration from Congolese rhythms and later expanding into R&B and other genres, he built a reputation as one of Zambia’s most dynamic reggae performers.

He recounted his moments in high school, including falling in love, adding that he was never a known pupil at his school aside amongst his class mates.

“I was not popular in school because I was not participating in alot of clubs aside from Jets and debate but I was known in my class because I was a noise maker. I had a crush in my class and I never used to miss school because of her. I would escort her to school but I never got a chance to tell her. Until we finished grade 12. My first relationship was when I was 21 years I completed my grade 12 a virgin,” he recalled.

Despite his rise to fame, Dandy never forgot his roots.

He often spoke about his struggles growing up, including the family’s annual Christmas meal of chicken, which was considered a luxury at the time.

“After my parent’s divorce, my mom remarried in Malawi while my dad went back to the village. I was only four, my immediate siblings who were twins were just in theirs diapers while my elder sister was six. My father would come to visit my siblings and I once in a while until he died when I was in grade 11. I still miss him and I would have loved him to see me successful and see that Dandy Krazy has done a lot of good things in this country,” he shared.

His commitment to his family was something he never let go, as the eldest man of nine siblings, he worked tirelessly to uplift them from poverty, ensuring their education and well-being.

Despite the music fame,Dandy remained a devoted brother, sponsor, and mentor to his family. “I promised to remove my family from the village, and I did,” he said with pride.

“We are very close with my siblings and I would tell them that I would one day remove them from the village one day where they went after our parent’s divorce until I removed them all. We are nine and 8 of them are here. My immediate young brother is working in Mapani, the other one is working as a lecturer in Ndola, I sponsored his education, the other one is at my lodge while my other two sisters, I’m still sponsoring them in school we are so much close together as a family,” Dandy added.

Dandy Krazy was more than just a musician. He was a symbol of hope and perseverance.

He encouraged young youths aspiring for success never neglect hard work and education.

“What I would like to tell younger people is that life is not as easy as it may look like. You need to work hard. People can call me a Satanist today, but my family doesn’t call me that because they have seen me improve my life every day and work hard. You can’t call me a Satanist if you never called me poor then. Also, you need to get an education, but not getting one doesn’t have to hinder you from success as you can still make it in life,” he encouraged.

Married to his wife of 15 years, he leaves behind a family of four children, three daughters and a son, Dandy died on Thursday, January 2, 2024 a day after he was involved in a road traffic accident in Kapiri Mposhi together with his crew while he was on his way for a new year’s eve performance in Kitwe.

A celebration of his life will be held tomorrow at the Lusaka Show grounds tomorrow Burial will follow at Lusaka’s Memorial Park.

Zimbabweans Caught Sneaking Into SA Packed Like Sardines in Mercedes Benz ML as 210 Arrested at Beitbridge Border in 24 Hours

A photo capturing a group of Zimbabweans crammed into a Mercedes Benz ML while attempting to cross into South Africa has sparked widespread debate.

The image, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by MDNNews, shows the Zimbabweans packed tightly in the vehicle. None of the passengers had valid travel documents. South Africa’s Border Management Authority (BMA) intercepted the group on Saturday night, processed them, and sent them back to Zimbabwe.

After the photo went viral, South Africans expressed mixed opinions. While some made light of the situation, others highlighted concerns about illegal immigration.

Here’s what some had to say:

@Barffoon:

premier
One of them had already posted a facebook post saying “we are within”

@MatamboSimbara1:

That entry point is used by so many nationals,bt your obsession with Zimboz its disgusting to say the least.

@Khanya354689:

210 Arrested in 24 Hours For Illegal Immigration at Beitbridge Border
The photo emerges amid a surge in border arrests. According to BMA Commissioner Mike Masiapato, 210 individuals were arrested within 24 hours for attempting to cross into South Africa illegally.

On the same day, approximately 17,000 people entered South Africa from Zimbabwe through legal means.

“The latest figure in terms of the past 24 hours is 210 that we’ve been able to intersect on the vulnerable segments. What we then do is once we arrest them we bring them into the port then we process them by taking their fingerprint we then V list them meaning that we declare them undesirable and ban them from reentering the country for the next five years,” BMA commissioner Mike Masiapato told eNCA.

BMA commissioner Mike Masiapato explained why they do not arrest and take every illegal migrant to court.

“When we intercept the facilitator we just don’t deport them because we know once you deport them they’ll be back to business. So those ones we then open a criminal case and we then charge them with aiding and abetting and we take them to Musina police station,” he explained.

France’s Ex-President Sarkozy To Face Trial Monday Over ‘Deal’ With Gaddafi

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy with former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will on Monday face trial at a Paris court over accusations of accepting illegal campaign funds from late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi during his 2007 election campaign.

The charges stemmed from a decade-long investigation into claims that Sarkozy accepted €50m from Gaddafi in exchange for helping restore Libya’s international reputation.

Gaddafi faced international isolation after Lybia was blamed for the bombing of a Pan Am passenger jet in 1988 killing 270, as well as the UTA Flight 772 in 1989 which killed hundreds of passengers.

The Libyan leader visited Paris in December 2007, in a bid to get support, but France backed the UN-sanctioned military action that helped oust Gaddafi in 2011, leading to his eventual execution by rebels.

Sarkozy, 69, denied receiving any funds or cutting deals with the Lybian dictator, dismissing the allegations as a conspiracy.

If found guilty, the former French president faces up to 10 years in prison.

The former right-wing president, who was in power for one term, between 2007 and 2012, has faced numerous legal battles since leaving power.

On December 18, France’s Court of Cassation upheld the decision of a lower court which sentenced him to one year imprisonment for corruption.

Sarkozy was found guilty by both a Paris court in 2021 and an appeal court in 2023 for trying to bribe a magistrate in exchange for information about a case he was implicated in.

The latest trial, involving 12 more co-defendants, will last until April 10. Among those charged are Sarkozy’s former aides, Claude Gueant and Eric Woerth.

Prosecutors allege the deal began in 2005 during Sarkozy’s meeting with Gaddafi in Tripoli.

According to them, key evidence includes a disputed document published in 2012 suggesting a financing agreement.

Ziad Takieddine, a businessman central to the case, initially claimed to have delivered cash from Gaddafi to Sarkozy but retracted his statement in 2020.

Sarkozy’s defense team argues there is no proof of the alleged financing while criticising the case as being speculative.

Zimbabwe can reinstate death penalty during a state of emergency

Zimbabwe’s recent decision to abolish the death penalty has been hailed as a significant milestone for human rights. However, a provision in the new Death Penalty Abolition Act allowing for the reinstatement of capital punishment during a state of emergency has sparked concern among human rights activists.Starlink internet

The act, which eradicates the death penalty for all crimes, marks a historic moment for Zimbabwe. As of the end of 2023, 59 individuals were known to be on death row in the country.

The controversial provision, introduced under the Defence Act, permits the death penalty’s reinstatement if a state of public emergency is declared under Section 113 of the Constitution. Activists argue this undermines the law’s progressive intent.

Amnesty International Zimbabwe executive director Lucia Masuka praised the abolition but called for the removal of the clause.

“By enacting the Death Penalty Abolition Bill, Zimbabwe has taken a major step towards aligning its laws with international human rights standards. However, the possibility of reinstatement during emergencies undermines the fundamental principle of the right to life,” Masuka said.

She emphasized that Zimbabwe’s decision serves as a beacon of hope for abolitionist movements across Africa but urged lawmakers to fully abolish the death penalty by eliminating the contentious provision.

Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) director Dzikamai Bere described the abolition as the most progressive human rights action taken by the government since the adoption of the 2013 Constitution.
Starlink internet

“This is a monumental victory for human rights activists who have campaigned for decades. However, the reinstatement clause is regrettable. The right to life is absolute and should never be compromised,” Bere said.

He called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to push for a total abolition of the death penalty, noting his long-standing advocacy for its removal dating back to his tenure as Justice Minister.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition chairman Peter Mutasa echoed Bere’s sentiments, adding that the death penalty risks being abused in authoritarian settings.

“Death penalty is irreversible, and in unjust systems, innocent people may be executed. This provision leaves room for potential misuse, which is a threat to human rights,” Mutasa said.

Zimbabwe joins 24 African countries and 113 nations globally that have abolished the death penalty entirely. The move aligns with international trends toward safeguarding the right to life.

While public opinion in Zimbabwe remains divided, with some citizens supporting capital punishment for severe crimes, activists insist that justice must never infringe on human dignity or the right to life.

The debate over the reinstatement clause is expected to continue as activists push for full abolition and the unconditional protection of human rights.
