RELEASE FRANCIS KAPWEPWE (WHY ME)- Fred M’membe

RELEASE FRANCIS KAPWEPWE (WHY ME)

Why does Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government continue to go against the law, and the promises they made to the Zambian people? Can the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Mr Jack Mwiimbu and the Inspector General of Police Mr Graphael Musamba explain to the nation the continued and unlawful detention of Tiktok blogger Mr Francis Kapwepwe a.k.a WHY ME in Livingstone for many months now?

Why have they kept the young man in illegal detention for this long? What grave crime has he committed to warrant this kind of punishment? Why this cruelty and total disregard of the law? What type of leaders are these, who do not care or listen to others? Where is the justice and equality before the law Mr Hichilema promised us? Can they explain to the nation why bail has been denied for this young man? And can they also explain why people are not allowed to visit Francis in prison? Is Francis still alive?

This level of cruelty, abuse of human rights, and injustice is beyond the acceptable standards that govern any civilized society. These kind of jungle governance strategies are a huge embarrassment to nation, and humanity as a whole. We cannot be treating each other with so much cruelty and hatred. We can do better. This barbarism and evilness should be condemned by every objective, and well-meaning citizen of this country. Whatever crime Francis is alleged to have committed, he deserves to be treated humanely and fairly.

We should not forget that there are people close to Mr Hichilema, who have committed worse cyber crimes, and continue doing the same thing to this very day, without reprimand or punishment. In fact, some of these people have actually been rewarded with jobs in the foreign service, and some are presently running Mr Hichilema’s guerrilla media channels, and are engaged in all manner of seditious practices, and maliciously abusing and insulting private citizens, and Mr Hichilema’s political opponents with impunity. They’re simply untouchable. Where is the fairness? Where are human rights? Where is the decency of this government and its leaders?

We have said it over and over again, that those who seek equity must come with clean hands. Mr Hichilema and his league must not seek to enforce the law, when they themselves are in breach of it. It is immoral and a shame that they should treat some citizens of this country like animals rather than humans deserving a chance to live like themselves.

We demand justice for Francis Kapwepwe (WHY ME).

May God help Zambia!

DANDY CRAZY GONE TO SOON- Miles Sampa

DANDY CRAZY GONE TO SOON
The 2011 campaigns general elections were tough and more so because the ruling MMD had a lot of money and resources. They had all major artists sing campaigns songs for them that we buzzing on every radio station and TV.

Then Guy Scott told voters to get everything (money & goodies) given by the MMD but ‘Don’t Kubeba’.

Dandy Crazy put this into a song ‘Don’t Kubeba’ and it became a hit instantly. I put loud speakers on top of my red van and would have a driver go round Matero from 5am with the Dandy Crazy song booming loud. In the afternoon the van would make rounds in all other constituencies of Lusaka with heavy the Dandy Crazy Dont Kubeba song on repeat. Incidentally this marked the beginning of  big speakers put on top of motor vehicles campaigns in Zambia and has since remained so.

I also burnt a lot of CD and put the song on flash discs and sent to all provinces and districts for PF campaigns. We did not only win in Matero but countrywide and formed government with Michael Sata as President.

The ‘Donchi Kubeba ‘ message and song worked. The  MMD was out with all their cash in hand that they splashed to voters. Citizens received the cash but voted against the MMD in favour of  the PF.
Thanks to Scott for coining the phrase and thanks Dandy turning it into a hit song.

When I was made Southern Provincial Minister, I organised a show for Dandy Crazy at Choma club. It was fully attended and highly successful. He made some money and drove back to Lusaka.

Since then I just listened to a number of his many songs to come and always enjoyed the rhythm. A joyous artist and human being that he was. One that anyone would have had to go out of their way to get upset with him. A very good artists and a happy soul gone too soon.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

At least 12 killed in mass shooting in Montenegro, suspect kills himself

0

Two children were among at least 12 people killed in a mass shooting that started at a restaurant in the small town of Cetinje in Montenegro and continued at three different locations, authorities said.

A local man suspected of carrying out the shootings, identified by police as Aleksandar Martinovic, 45, was confirmed to have died early on Thursday morning after turning the gun on himself and dying from his injuries while being transported to hospital.

Police had surrounded the suspect near his home in Cetinje. When police commanded him “to lay down his weapon, he shot himself in the head”, the country’s police chief, Lazar Scepanovic, told reporters.

“An attempt was made to transport him to a clinical centre, but he succumbed to his injuries in the meantime,” he said.

In a post on social media confirming that the suspected gunman had died, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said the mass killing had “shrouded our country in black”.

“This senseless act has caused immeasurable sadness and bitterness in each of us. There are no words of comfort,” Spajic said.

Montenegro’s national security council will now consider “all options” in the aftermath of the attack, including a complete ban on the possession of weapons, the prime minister said, adding the country will observe three days of national mourning.

Interior Minister Danilo Saranovic told journalists that the two minors killed in the attacks, which started on Wednesday night, were children of the owner of the restaurant where the shooting spree began. The owner was also killed, he said. The children were aged 10 and 13, according to police.

The shooter had “killed members of his own family”, the minister said, adding that the suspect was thought to have been drinking heavily before the rampage.

Four people seriously wounded in the attack were reported to be fighting for their lives in a hospital in the Montenegrin capital Podgorica.

The suspect, who media reports said had a history of illegal weapons possession and received a suspended sentence in 2005 for violent behaviour, had fled after the shootings and was at large in Cetinje, a small valley town surrounded by rugged hills some 38km (23.6 miles) west of Podgorica.

All the roads in and out of the town had been blocked as police swarmed the streets before surrounding the suspect near his home.

The mass shooting was the second gun rampage over the past three years in Cetinje, Montenegro’s historic capital. An attacker also killed 10 people, including two children, in August 2022 before he was shot and killed by a passerby, The Associated Press news agency reports.

Montenegro, which has a population of just over 620,000 people, is known for its gun culture and many people traditionally have weapons.

Organised crime and corruption are two major issues also plaguing Montenegro, which authorities have pledged to tackle under pressure from the European Union that the tiny nation aspires to join.

2024 WAS A TERRIBLE YEAR – KASHINGA

2024 WAS A TERRIBLE YEAR – KASHINGA

…as he bemoans the lack of activities at both Mopani and Konkola Copper Mines

Mufulira… Thursday January 2, 2025

Socialist Party (SP) Vice Chairperson for Copperbelt Province Reagan Kashinga has branded 2024 as a terrible year on many fronts to the extent that the people of Zambia wanted to put it behind quickly.

And Mr. Kashinga has asked the people of Zambia to avenge themselves through the ballot in 2026 over the misery they have been subjected to by the UPND Government.

Mr. Kashinga said 2024 was awful for the people of Zambia politically, economically and socially because of hardships people ensured such as prolonged hours of loadshedding, high cost of living and unstable fuel prices.

He charged that despite the cited challenges the UPND Government doesn’t seem to take pragmatic steps to avert them.

“Economically, it is in 2024 when we saw productivity in the local industry declining drastically due to power rationing by Zesco which resulted in prolonged hours of load shedding that negatively affected all spheres of the local economy. Compounded by high and unstable fuel prices this pushed the cost of living to unmanageable levels for many suffering Zambians. Research has shown that a family of five requires about K11, 000 to meet monthly food needs but salaries are very low in Zambia,” Mr. Kashinga said.

“As we write, the local economy is currently in the grave because the UPND Government is not taking practical steps to avert the situation apart from the cheap talk Zambians have been subjected to in the last three and half years. We can foresee severe hunger in the first quarter of 2025 as we wait for the harvest season,” he said.

Mr. Kashinga bemoaned the reported lack of activities at Mopani Copper Mines and Konkola Copper Mines despite the arrival of investors to run the two mines last year.

“In the mining sector, the much talked about and alleged revival of Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani Copper Mines has not yielded positive results despite the arrival of foreign investors to run the two mines. We can safely tell the people of Zambia that nothing new was happening at KCM and Mopani because the investors at the two mines are broke and have not invested the huge funds as promised.  International Resources Holdings (IRH) at Mopani and Vedanta at KCM are literally doing nothing to revive the two mines because there is clearly a lack of political will to stir the mining sector,” he said.

On the political scene, Mr. Kashinga reiterated that democratic space declined further in 2024 as he cited arrests of opposition political party leaders, long detention and denial to have rallies as undemocratic tendencies.

“Politically, in 2024, we saw democratic space shrink to unprecedented levels with the infringement on freedoms and human rights by the state as the order of the day. The Socialist Party was on several occasions stopped from holding rallies and mobilisation meetings. Not even Churches were spared from State orchestrated attacks on human rights and freedoms. Opposition political party leaders have continued to be arrested and detained without trial. If freedoms and human rights are not guaranteed going forward we won’t have free or fair elections in 2026. Leveling the playing field for the 2026 General Elections must start now. Failure to respect the separation of powers by the Executive is not helping matters,” Mr. Kashinga said.

He demanded the immediate leveling of the playing field for all political players ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

“Furthermore, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is far from being impartial because it is managed by politically aligned individuals. We have seen rampant vote buying, bribery, violence and intimidation by the UPND during recent elections. We are also aware that the State House is interfering in the operations of the judiciary as evidenced by some questionable judgments witnessed in 2024.In this vein, we wish to warn President Hakainde Hichilema against thinking that the 2026 elections will be a walkover. President Hichilema has been claiming that no one will remove him from the seat in 2026. The Head of State should know that the power to change government lies in the hands of the people of Zambia,” Mr. Kashinga continued.

“President Hichilema’s must win approach ahead of the 2026 elections is dictatorial and must not be tolerated in a democratic country like ours. The Socialist Party under President Dr. Fred M’membe is ready to unsettle Mr. Hichilema in 2026 with or without is mingalato. Mr. Hichilema indeed is an under-5 politician like President Michael Sata would say because he openly talks about his political moves. Mr. Hichilema openly told the nation about his mingalato and that he was aligning the judiciary to suit the UPND wishes. Finally, we appeal to the people of Zambia to avenge themselves through the ballot in 2026 over the misery they have been subjected to by the UPND Government. The UPND has failed to properly govern the nation as we can see from numerous challenges.”

I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I HAD DONE UNTIL I READ ON KALEMBA – DRUNKEN POLICER

I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I HAD DONE UNTIL I READ ON KALEMBA – DRUNKEN COP

THE police officer who is now in hot soup after freeing detainees and telling them to go and celebrate the New Year, has told authorities that he didn’t even remember doing it until he saw it on social media.

The officer identified as Detective Inspector Titus Phiri of Leonard Cheelo Police Post in Lusaka’s Kanyama Compound has been arrested and detained following his staggering display of drunken bravado in which he single-handedly orchestrated a daring jailbreak, freeing detainees.

According to reports, As 2024 drew to a close on Tuesday morning, Phiri who is the team leader of the tiny police post was allegedly indulging in a festive drinking spree.

After several bottles of Junta clearly shed his inhibitions, Phiri stumbled out of the tavern and staggered to his workplace around 10:00 hours with a shocking display of drunken authority.

Upon arrival at the inquiries desk, Phiri demanded the keys to the cells, threatening to lock up the female constable on duty who had initially resisted his orders.

Apparently, Phiri’s alcohol-fueled inspiration came from President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent pardon of 759 inmates on Christmas Day and perhaps feeling a sense of festive generosity, took it upon himself to grant his own makeshift pardon to detainees.

With keys in hand, Phiri dramatically flung open the doors of the filthy and foul-stenched cells, proclaiming freedom for all the inmates.

The delighted detainees, seizing the unexpected opportunity, made a frantic run for freedom.

Concerned that they could trip, fall and break their limbs and ruin their New Year celebrations, Phiri urged them to “walk, not run,” as he had given them the total freedom.

In total 13 detainees escaped from the cells while two chose to stay behind.

Oblivious to the chaos he had unleashed, Phiri nonchalantly sauntered off to continue his revelry as his fellow officers launched a manhunt for the escapees and their colleague.

As he handed himself in yesterday, Phiri shocked the rank and file of the Zambia Police Service when he explained that he could not remember anything he had done on New Year’s Eve until he read about it on Kalemba.

“I didn’t know what I had done until I saw it on Kalemba, a social media platform,” a police source quoted Phiri as saying.

The sources said after counterchecking the information on several other news platforms including ZNBC, Phiri confirmed he was truly wanted by the police and decided to hand himself in.

Currently, he is detained at Chilenje Police Station, while the search for the escaped inmates continues.

In the meantime, Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says the men and women from Lilayi have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the escapees.

“We urge members of the public with any information that may assist in locating the suspects  to report to the nearest police station,” he appealed.

“The Zambia Police Service reiterates its commitment to upholding law and order and assures the public that decisive action will be taken against any officer found to be abusing their authority or acting contrary to the law,” warned Hamoonga.

Police arrest Livingstone man over death of wife

Police arrest Livingstone man over death of wife

POLICE in Livingstone have apprehended 28 year old, Kelvin Lungu over the death of his wife  Dorica Phiri, who was found hanging lifeless to a mango tree last week.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Ek6idixqe/?mibextid=oFDknk

Initially, Lungu, of Nkumbi Road in the 217 area, of Southern Province town, reported to the police that his wife had taken her life.

According to reports, the couple left their house and went for a night of celebration at Limpo’s night club, where singer Yo Maps was performing on Christmas day.

After dancing to ‘Aweh’ and Kondwa, the couple then decided to go back home around 01:00 hours following day as suggested by the 23 year old wife.

But as they headed home, Lungu claimed that they had an argument which made them take different routes home.

40 minutes later, Lungu reportedly returned home at 01:40 hours but found the door locked.

The suspect said he knocked but there was no response so he started searching for his wife around their yard, but he did not see her.

According to his report, Lungu was then forced to go back to the club and look for her using the route she used back and forth, but couldn’t find her until around 05:45 hours when his neighbour, Jacqueline Kiziba, alerted him that there was a body in her yard.

According to Jacqueline, she had woken up early that fateful night to start her morning chores and stumbled upon someone hanging by a mango tree near the boundary between her yard and the couple’s yard.

Following the revelation, Lungu is said to have rushed to the spot and confirmed that it was his wife hanging from a tree, 30 meters away from their home.

He then rushed to report the matter to police, who also promptly visited the scene.

In confirming the incident, Southern Province commanding officer, Auxensio Daka said officers who visited the scene found that there were some drag marks on the ground and muddy (dirty) spots were observed on the clothes of the deceased, which appeared different to the soil at the scene implying that there was some struggle or fighting before the hanging took place.

Following police investigations, Lungu’s story did not match up with the occurrence and medical report.

A postmortem conducted on Dorica’s body ruled out the possibility that she had taken her own life, but instead indicated that her cause of death could be due to domestic violence.

Daka said the medical reports showed she had been viciously beaten with an object before her body was staged to appear as though she had taken her own life.

The shocking turn of events led to the Widower’s arrest on December 28, 2024.

“He is currently in police custody at Livingstone Central Police Station awaiting for the due process of the law to take it’s course,” said Daka…https://kalemba.news/local/2025/01/02/police-arrest-livingstone-man-over-death-of-wife/

FRANCIS KAPWEPWE (WHY ME) EXAMPLE OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT IS SAID AND WHAT IS DONE

(FRANCIS KAPWEPWE (WHY ME) EXAMPLE OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT IS SAID AND WHAT IS DONE.

       —————————
LUNTE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT, MUTOTWE KAFWAYA WROTE:

Thank you Hon Miles Bwalya Sampa, for attempting to visit and grant festive season goodies to Francis Kapwepwe aka Why Me.

The Holy Bible in Proverbs 19:17  says and I quote “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord.”

As things stand, Why Me is in an extremely vulnerable state of being for allegations leveled against him. He is against a powerful state system which has promised Justice to the people but selects who gets Justice and who doesn’t.

It is very unfortunate that Why Me chose to mix his commentary with insults – I think elderly people in his family circle or even community leaders around his home could have helped to speak to him. Instead he was handed to the jaws of a state machinery which would mercilessly transport him from Chililabombwe to be incarcerated in Livingstone.

This is from one town at the end of the country to another town at the opposite other end of the country. He is Incarcerated there with no police bond and neither has he been granted bail. But the allegations leveled against him are both bondable and bailable. His friends and family live 910 km away from where he is incarcerated.

With the current high cost of travel these days, it is nearly impossible for Why Me to get visits from his friends and relatives who live so far from where he is being held. Our human rights commission may take interest in this once the diplomatic corps show interest. It’s really sad.

Why Me may be wrong, he may also be disliked but he should still be treated with dignity. He should be afforded Justice. He must still be seen to enjoy among fellow citizens the human rights guaranteed in our constitution.

Honestly, why should a government system be so hell bent on punishing its citizens like this?

The insults for which Why Me is incarcerated are the same as those insults someone called Chibokolo showered on him and other innocent Zambians. Where is Chibokolo today? He is at his home enjoying his freedoms because he is a political supporter of the ruling UPND.

Has Chibokolo been arrested for his insults and denied police bond and or bail to teach him a lesson being taught to Why Me? None of that has ever happened to him.

What about those other UPND supporters who indiscriminately insulted president Edgar LUNGU at DEC offices in full view of the same police force which arrested Why Me, where are they? In their respective homes enjoying their new year celebrations.

In view of the foregoing, I put it to the state that it’s system in this regard is biased and deliberately designed and resourced to punish some Zambians and not others based on perceived political support. Those who are assumed to support the ruling UPND would not be punished no matter what insults they utter, but those perceived to be in support of the opposition would be treated like Why Me.

This systematic punishment to those carefully selected is injustice. These are double standards applying on the same citizens. This is hypocrisy. This is poor leadership.

One UPND official in Luapula province recently insulted Hon Mulenga Fube. Has he been arrested? The answer is no! What can government tell the people in terms of all citizens being equal before the law? It’s hard.

Maybe the the below questions may follow:

(1) Why has (Why Me) been treated as a special case for punishment in a country of insults where ministers can even call those who were there before them as monkeys?

(2) What lesson does government want Why Me to learn which must not be learned by those who support the ruling UPND?

(3) Are there other considerations that have been taken into account when it comes to Why Me’s insults, which are not considered for other people who are aligned to UPND?

On this second day of 2025, I wish to appeal to the state to stop punishing selected citizens. Let the rule of law begin to take shape. Let the promises of good governance start forming in our country.

I also wish to appeal to young people and politically active members of society to stop insulting. It is possible to propagate ideas without trading insults.

To the state – please give Justice to Why Me. Incarcerating him close to 1000 km away from his home does not show Justice but injustice and neither does it show leadership but it does poor leadership.

‘Catwoman’ socialite known for her extreme cosmetic surgery d!es at 84

0

Jocelyn Wildenstein, the New York socialite nicknamed “The Catwoman” because of her extreme cosmetic surgery, has d!ed. She was 84.

Her partner, Lloyd Klein, reportedly told AFP she d!ed of a pulmonary embolism in Paris on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Wildenstein, known for her catlike features and addiction to plastic surgery, first made headlines in the late ’90s when she divorced her wealthy art collector husband, Alec Wildenstein, after discovering him “in bed with a 19-year-old Russian model.”

Her divorce left her as one of the wealthiest people in the world after receiving a $2.5 billion settlement. She also was awarded $100 million more in annual payments from Alec for 13 years.

However, by 2018, the vast fortune was gone. Wildenstein filed for bankruptcy in New York, writing in an affidavit, “I am not employed and my only income is Social Security.”

She added, “I often turn to friends and family in order to pay my ongoing expenses.”

Wildenstein’s obsession with plastic surgery has been well documented over the years. However, she claimed in February, 2024, that she had never had plastic surgery.

“I haven’t had plastic surgery,” the one-time society fixture told the Sun. “I am scared of what can happen, and I don’t like to have something heavy. Sometimes it is a bit heavy and terrible.”

Wildenstein reportedly began undergoing surgeries during her marriage to Alec, who she once described as “hating old people.”

By some accounts, she wanted to look like a feline because of her husband’s love of cats.

Alec and Wildenstein’s friends suspected that her goal was to look like a lynx (the socialite had one as a pet).

“The lynx has perfect eyes,” she told Vanity Fair in a 1998 profile. She rebuffed the notion that her distinct facial features were due to plastic surgery, however. “If I show you pictures of my grandmother, what you see is these eyes — cat eyes — and high cheekbones,” she said at the time.

Despite reports that Alec forced Wildenstein to undergo cosmetic procedures, he denied pressuring her to change her appearance.

“She was crazy. I would always find out last,” he told Vanity Fair. “She was thinking that she could fix her face like a piece of furniture. Skin does not work that way. But she wouldn’t listen.”

Wildenstein backed up Alec’s version of events. “He never pushed me,” she told the magazine.

“No, he all the time told me that I look very young,” she insisted before adding, “Until the day you don’t look young enough!”

Wildenstein is survived by her daughter, Diane, and son, Alec Jr.

2025 NAPSA Adjustment: A Blow to the Ordinary Zambian

2025 NAPSA Adjustment: A Blow to the Ordinary Zambian

The recent 2025 NAPSA adjustment, raising the maximum monthly deductible contribution to ZMW1,708.20, has been celebrated as a step toward greater retirement security. However, for the average Zambian worker, this policy feels more like a financial burden than a benefit. Behind the polished rhetoric lies a harsh reality: this move disproportionately disadvantages ordinary citizens while further straining an already fragile economic ecosystem.

For the typical Zambian earning close to the National Average Earnings (NAE) of ZMW8,541.00, the increase translates to a significant deduction from their paycheck. While the government touts this as “more savings,” it’s hard to ignore the immediate consequence—less money for daily survival. With inflation driving up the cost of essentials such as food, transport, and housing, most workers cannot afford to have more of their income locked into a system that offers no immediate relief. This adjustment robs ordinary citizens of their financial flexibility, leaving them scrambling to make ends meet.

Moreover, the promise of long-term retirement benefits feels hollow to many. The trust in NAPSA is low, with frequent complaints about delayed payouts and insufficient benefits. For the ordinary Zambian, sacrificing a larger portion of their earnings today feels like throwing money into a black hole, with no guarantee of reaping the promised rewards in retirement. It’s a gamble many can’t afford to take, especially in a country where financial literacy and trust in public institutions remain challenges.

The impact on families is even more pronounced. For households relying on dual incomes to sustain basic needs, the increased NAPSA contributions from both spouses further shrink disposable income. Parents may be forced to cut back on school fees, healthcare, or even food budgets to accommodate these deductions. This policy doesn’t just hurt individuals—it undermines the welfare of entire families, perpetuating cycles of poverty and financial insecurity.

For workers in the informal sector, who already lack access to NAPSA, this adjustment widens the gap between them and their formally employed counterparts. It creates a perception that formal sector workers are being unfairly taxed to compensate for systemic inefficiencies. This further alienates a large portion of the population and deepens economic inequality, leaving ordinary Zambians questioning who this policy truly serves.

From a macroeconomic perspective, the timing of this adjustment couldn’t be worse. Businesses, especially SMEs, are grappling with post-pandemic recovery, and now face increased payroll costs. These costs inevitably trickle down to workers, either through job cuts, stagnant wages, or reduced benefits. For an ordinary Zambian, this means fewer opportunities for employment and growth, coupled with higher job insecurity.

The policy’s lack of transparency further aggravates the situation. Ordinary Zambians have no clear understanding of how their contributions are managed or invested. Without accountability, it feels like a coercive system where the government takes more without giving back in meaningful ways. For workers who are already burdened with taxes and other deductions, this is an unwelcome additional strain.

Ultimately, the 2025 NAPSA adjustment is a stark reminder of how disconnected policymakers can be from the realities of ordinary citizens. It imposes a one-size-fits-all solution in a country where economic disparities are vast, leaving the average worker to bear the brunt of poorly conceived policies. Rather than empowering Zambians, this adjustment strips them of agency, leaving them with less money, less trust, and fewer opportunities to improve their lives. It’s a harsh blow to those who can least afford it.

RECOGNISE AND HONOUR DANDY CRAZY – SIKOTA

RECOGNISE AND HONOUR DANDY CRAZY – SIKOTA

I would like to convey my deepest and sincere condolences to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Wesley Chibambo (Dandy Crazy) who has sadly passed away early this morning.

There is no doubt that Dandy Crazy was a giant in the Zambian musical industry. His innovation and natural charm touched many. His social and political commentaries are strongly articulated through song much like Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan, Peter Tosh, John Lenon, Arrested Development and Wycleef Jean songs hold deep meaning.

At the same time Dandy Crazy had a fun side to him and was able to churnout playful songs as well. Whether fun, social commentary or political songs, his music sent you to the dance floor.

Dandy Crazy has received numerous awards for his contributions to the music industry and cultural preservation.

Some of his notable awards include:

1. The Grand Commander of the Order of Freedom award  bestowed upon him by President Sata on Independence Day in 2011 for his popular PF campaign song “Don’t Kubeba” .
2. Accolades for cultural preservation and has also received awards for his efforts in preserving Zambian culture through his music.

One way the industry can honour Dandy Crazy is to lobby and urge all radio and television stations together with all bloggers to simultaneously from a set time (say two hours before the Church burial program is scheduled to start) all play Dandy Crazy’s music.

I pray that the Permanent Secretary for Arts, Mr. Chama Fumba (Pilato) will have the State Media give this honour to his late colleague.

The Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) president Mr. Davison Munsanda should, in addition to the tribute concert customarily held at Lusaka Theatre Club, should urge and convince all broadcasters and bloggers to have this two hours of Wesley Chibambo’s music ring out throughout Zambia.

This is the way that we should as a country recognise and honour Dandy Crazy.

MOZAMBIQUE OPPOSITION LEADER CALLS FOR UNITY AHEAD OF RENEWED PROTESTS

MOZAMBIQUE OPPOSITION LEADER CALLS FOR UNITY AHEAD OF RENEWED PROTESTS

Mozambique’s main opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane has called for unity ahead of a fresh round of protests against the outcome of presidential elections.

In a live broadcast on his Facebook page, Mondlane – who is in self-imposed exile – urged citizens to join hands in their neighbourhoods at 11.45pm and sing the national anthem until 2025 kicks in.

“We must find ourselves again as Mozambicans,” he said.

Mozambique has faced one of is bloodiest weeks since October, when Mondlane first called for protests after rejecting his defeat in the elections.

A local monitoring group, Plataforma Decide, said that 179 people died in riots last week, after the country’s highest court confirmed that the ruling party candidate, Daniel Chapo, won the election.

This brought the death toll to 278 people since demonstrations began after the electoral commission declared Chapo the winner of elections in October, extending Frelimo’s 49-year rule.

The fatalities include protesters, children and members of the security forces.

Mondlane fled Mozambique, saying his life was in danger after two of his aides were shot dead in October.

In his latest address, he urged people to “cook and socialise” in their neighbourhoods, before a new wave of protests begin on 2 January.

“I am ready to lose my life for this fight,” he added.

He previously said he will install himself as president on 15 January – the day Chapo is due to be sworn in – despite the constitutional court upholding his rival’s victory.

It is unclear how Mondlane intends to take office, given he is in self-imposed exile.

In a statement, Chapo said he would serve as “the President for all” after his inauguration.

“We will soon work together on solutions to the problems caused by this unfortunate situation,” he added.

The electoral commission declared Chapo the winner of the election with 71% of the vote, compared to Mondlane’s 20%.

The constitutional court revised the result last week, giving Chapo 65% and Mondlane 24%.

International election observers previously said the vote was flawed, pointing to doctored numbers and other irregularities during the counting process.

The ensuing protests have dealt a severe blow to Mozambique’s economy.

More than 12,000 people have lost their jobs and more than 500 companies have been vandalised, Onorio Manuel, vice-president of the country’s Confederation of Economic Associations, told local news website O Pais.

Along with businesses, Frelimo offices, courts, police stations and road toll booths have been torched.

Last week, the police reported that more than 1,500 prisoners escaped from a maximum security prison, taking advantage of the political unrest.

Neighbouring countries have also felt the impact of Mozambique’s unrest. Several thousand Mozambicans have fled across the border into Malawi as a result of the violence.

And a concerned South Africa dispatched a special envoy, Sydney Mufamadi, to Mozambique’s capital, Maputo, to discuss the crisis with President Filipe Nyusi, who is due to step down at the end of his two terms.

Mufamadi said the discussion focused on understanding the nature of the crisis and exploring how South Africa could help resolve it.

South African officials say they have stepped up intelligence and security operations along the border in order to prevent criminal elements from crossing. (BBC News)

HH’S LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN GOVERNMENT HAS AFFECTED SERVICE DELIVERY – MUNDUBILE

HH’S LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN GOVERNMENT HAS AFFECTED SERVICE DELIVERY – MUNDUBILE.

….Says the opposition should continue relying on ECL’s guidance on unity.

MPOROKOSO PF MP Brian Mundubile says President Hakainde Hichilema’s lack of experience in government leadership has affected the UPND’s service delivery.

And Mundubile has urged Zambians to prepare for a new leadership in 2026.
Further, Mundubile says the opposition should continue relying on former president Edgar’s guidance on unity, saying that’s the only way to dislodge the UPND in 2026.

In an interview, Tuesday, Mundubile said people had enough time to evaluate leaders to take over, saying they should not vote out of frustration because of the failures of the UPND.

He said it had been very difficult to know the direction that the UPND were taking the country.

“The lack of direction we are facing now is on account of lack of capacity to deliver. Yes, President Hichilema is trying to work hard, but are the results visible? No. And we quickly have to find out why they are not showing. Some of the reasons are that there was no clear vision, no policy direction as to where we want to go, no anchor projects. It’s been very difficult to know the direction the UPND wanted to take the country, everybody is left guessing. As we go forward, Zambians must begin to prepare for a new leadership. But even as they prepare for a new leadership they should not vote out of frustration because of how the UPND have failed. They still have enough time for Zambians to begin to evaluate the leaders that will take over office,” Mundubile said.

“It’s also important to look at the past performance by individuals that aspire to lead. It doesn’t matter in what capacity they have been serving. Zambians should not lose hope and confidence. I fear that we could have voter apathy if we are not careful. People will not see the need to go and vote because President Hakainde Hichilema had raised the hopes of the people, they will not see the need to wake up at 02hrs. The flagship project is free education but out of that what do we have? Have we really gotten the best deal out of that? No. Funding of CDF has been a big challenge, this is a story that nobody tells. Most of the times you get CDF funded actually in December, meaning the whole year people will just be waiting for their projects to be funded”.

He said there was need to have more than the current minimum requirements for one to be president.

“So as a politician there are certain minimum expectations that I had from the UPND and these were not from nowhere. We need to take time to evaluate the people that we vote for, evaluate the vision that they have, evaluate the capacity they possess to deliver on their visions as it was. There’s some minimum exposure a leader should go through before he can even be chosen as president. Learning from the UPND and their failures it also goes to show one thing, it’s true that President Hakainde Hichilema has never been in government before, he’s been in the private sector. I think the lack of experience in the public sector has had an impact on service delivery and the way that he’s been able to run government,” Mundubile said.

“So it’s important going forward that if we want to come up with transformational laws and policies, one of the areas in future to look at is how one ascends to the position of president. It’s not enough to put conditions such as a grade 12 certificate. We are talking about the lives of the people that must be secured. Many other positions lower than president can have minimum qualifications. I think it’s within our power as a people to also demand that for one to be president they must possess certain experiences, they should have been exposed to certain positions so that there are no experiments as it were”.

He said the three years of the UPND had taught them lessons to ensure that they made promises they would be able to deliver.

“The three years of UPND in power have lessons, even as politicians we know what not to do because of what the UPND have done. They overpromised without carrying out an assessment on how they can do certain things. So when it came to implementing it was a total failure. We now know that before you make a promise, do a study, some research and look at the capacity to deliver those promises. It’s not a very comfortable feeling to be called liars all the time as leaders. Leaders are supposed to be respected but they are called for who they are that they are liars because they lied. It takes away a lot from leaders so they can avoid that by only making promises on things that they can do, not things they dream or wish that they can do. They look at the practicality of doing those things,” Mundubile said.

And Mundubile said the opposition should continue relying on former president Edgar’s guidance on unity, saying that was the only way to dislodge the UPND in 2026.

“I wish to send my seasonal greetings to the Tonse alliance led by president Edgar Lungu for the leadership that has been provided during this difficult time. We saw what was happening in Kawambwa, Tonse was barely a month old and yet performed very well. We want to continue relying on president Lungu’s leadership going forward to navigate and guide opposition political parties to come together to work and have concerted efforts so that in the 2026 elections the number of candidates are reduced. That’s the only sure way that will dislodge the UPND government given the many failures that they’ve registered so far,” said Mundubile

WHY ZAMBIAN YOUTHS SHOULD CHOOSE DR. FRED M’MEMBE OVER MR HAKAINDE HICHILEMA IN 2026

WHY ZAMBIAN YOUTHS SHOULD CHOOSE DR. FRED M’MEMBE OVER MR HAKAINDE HICHILEMA IN 2026

By Richard Bravo Mulenga, SP Deputy National Youth Secretary

In August 2021, the Zambian people entered into a “constitutional contract” with the United Party for National Development (UPND) and its leader, President Hakainde Hichilema, based on a series of promises he made.

Among these, President Hichilema assured the nation that he would reduce the price of a 25kg bag of mealie meal to K50 and the price of fuel to less than K10 per litre. Additionally, he pledged to lower the cost of fertilizer, a critical input for Zambia’s agricultural backbone.

However, under his leadership, fertilizer prices have tripled, largely due to misplaced priorities, such as catering to the interests of Western nations and his business associates, rather than prioritizing the Zambian people.

Not so long ago, President Hichilema was boasting and hitting his chest on national television where he claimed that his administration had ended load shedding entirely. But as the saying goes, lies have short legs. The reality has hit him so hard to his face and this is a president who is so excellent at lip service and not service delivery.

Zambians are enduring over 22 hours of power outages, even as this government exports electricity to neighbouring countries. This contradiction is not just baffling but deeply damaging.

Small businesses such as welding workshops, salons, and barber shops many of which are owned by young entrepreneurs have collapsed.

These businesses depend entirely on electricity for them to operate properly. Larger companies, like Parmalat, have been forced to shut down their operations in Zambia due to persistent load shedding, leaving countless Zambians, especially the youth, unemployed and hopeless.

And tomorrow, someone will proudly claim that we are attracting major foreign investors. But the real question is: Who would be foolish enough to invest in a country where there’s no power for an entire day?

How can we continue to trust a government that fails to prioritize the livelihoods of its people? A leader who repeatedly breaks promises and fails to deliver on commitments earns the label of a liar. Unfortunately, President Hichilema has done little to disprove this characterization.

Moreover, while boasting about upholding the rule of law, President Hichilema’s administration has demonstrated blatant disregard for justice. For example, the recent unlawful detention of two brothers at Ridgeway Police Post for over 57 days without being taken to court is a direct violation of their constitutional rights.

The constitutional contract between the UPND government and the Zambian people remains valid until August 2026, but its renewal hinges entirely on performance. To date, President Hichilema has underperformed, offering no compelling reason for Zambians to extend this contract. His campaign promises were for his first term, not a second. As a matter of fact, a second term for him is not mandatory. A second term is a privilege earned through results, not entitlement.

This is a man who claimed he would fix the economy if given the chance to be President. Unfortunately, he has made things worse than he found them. President Hichilema is like a Lusaka mechanic who has long boasted of mastering the art of fixing cars. But when given the chance to work on your vehicle, he ends up damaging it further. A car that could at least start its engine is now completely unresponsive, unable even to crank.

For Zambia to truly progress, it is time for the especially the youth, who represent the country’s future to consider alternative leadership. Dr Fred M’membe of the Socialist Party offers a fresh and principled vision for Zambia. His commitment to social justice, collective governance, and prioritizing the needs of ordinary Zambians over external interests stands in stark contrast to the failures of the UPND administration.

Ba youth, in 2026, let us reject empty promises and misplaced priorities. Let us chart a new course for Zambia by supporting Dr. Fred M’membe a leader ready to serve the people and deliver on his promises. Otherwise we are all now able to see that President Hichilema is a BMW (Bally Muntu Wabufi).

Kalaba says he’s the only hope for Zambia

Kalaba says he’s the only hope for Zambia

CITIZENS First leader Harry Kalaba has declared himself as the only hope for Zambia ahead of next year’s general election.

In his new year message, Kalaba promised to end the current challenges facing the country such as load shedding and high cost of living as soon as he forms government.

He claimed that the country is currently grappling with lack of employment and business opportunities which he said would be a walk over once he takes over.

The former cabinet minister assured the nation  that all the current problems across the country have an expiry date which happens to be next year as the country goes to the polls.

“Just like the notoriously difficult 2024 has come to an end, I want you to know that nothing lasts forever,” he said.

He urged citizens to remain steadfast and anchor their hopes in a better tomorrow which he claimed lied in him.

“With only 17 months remaining before the next election, I want to assure you that hope is on the way,” said Kalaba.

“God being on our side, let’s look to the future with resolve and determination to correct all the errors and redeem ourselves from an apparent lack of leadership that Zambia is currently experiencing.”

Kalaba hopes that 2025 presents citizens with a unique opportunity to rise above partisan interests and put the well being of nation in front by voting for him.

“We must soar higher like an eagle above our obvious collective challenges and dream to once again build a Zambia united in love and brotherhood.”

“Fellow citizens, believe me when I say our nation will heal, Zambia will flourish once again and we will rejoice in the shared prosperity that puts Citizens at the forefront of running national affairs and determining our own destiny,” he claimed.

My post wasn’t about Dandy Crazy but on drunk driving – Simon Mwewa Lane

My post wasn’t about Dandy Crazy but on drunk driving – Simon Mwewa

ZAMBIAN netizens yesterday camped on vlogger Simon Mwewa’s Facebook page after the online teacher of English flashed what they termed as “insensitive” remarks amidst Dandy Crazy’s accident.

The post also led to the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Art demanding an apology from Mwewa for having subjected the creative industry to his “disrespectful” post especially during the time the country was awash with a musician’s tragic accident.

Wesley Chibambo alias Dandy Crazy was involved in a fatal road involved in a road traffic accident near Kapiri on the Great North Road which claimed the lives of four people on the spot while the music artiste died this morning.

Immediately after it was confirmed that Dandy Crazy was involved in a road accident, Mwewa took to his page and wrote a post that was condemning the habit of Zambian artistes drinking while driving.

“Imwe vima Zambian artistes, don’t drink and drive you dunda heads,” wrote Mwewa on his page.

A few hours after the above post, Mwewa still carried the message despite receiving criticism, “You dunda head artistes, don’t drink and drive. Muzafa (you will die).”

The posts sparked social media disapproval, with some celebrities and influencers disagreeing with the message.

In reacting to Mwewa’s remarks, Zambians slammed him that indeed, English was never the measure of one’s intelligence.

Musicians, socialites and influencers have also condemned the post stating that it was made at the wrong time.

“This is so disrespectful,” commented Sista D.

“Kanshi it’s true chisungufye amano Wala? Shame on you,” said Mwansa Mbewe.

Reverend Walter Mwambazi wrote, “Extremely insensitive beloved! Details are that a speeding truck run into their vehicle.”

And Bobby East commented, “This cautionary statement is in bad taste and won’t achieve its intended purpose. You are my father’s age, but I think even my six-year-old has better emotional intelligence than this. Do better, please.”

“This is too foolish to be true,” commented Dr Lubinda Haabazoka.

Meanwhile, the ministry of Sports, Youth and Arts demanded for an apology from Mwewa stating that his comments were demeaning and belittling the hardworking men and women in the arts sector.

According to the ministry’s principal public relations officer Nchimunya Ng’andu, the remarks were not only demeaning but also contrary to the values which the country seeks to promote.

“We wish to remind Mr. Chitambala and other stakeholders that if there are any concerns regarding the conduct or performance of artistes, the Ministry operates an open-door policy and is always available to engage in constructive dialogue.

“Publicly degrading our artistes is not the way to address any perceived shortcomings,” said Ng’andu.

Despite the huge criticism, Mwewa has vowed to never apologise as he thinks it was the right thing to do in order to impart responsible driving skills in people.

He also said the post was not about Dandy Crazy, even though he directed it to musicians just after he heard of the accident.

“My post wasn’t about Dandy Crazy. It’s about drunk driving. Today you hate me, but eventually you will understand the real message. Don’t drink and drive.”

“I see drunk bus drivers everyday and yes Zambian artists glorify alcohol and they drive while drunk. I see them. I will not apologise for wanting people to be responsible while they drive,” insisted Mwewa…https://kalemba.news/local/2025/01/02/my-post-wasnt-about-dandy-crazy-but-on-drunk-driving-simon-mwewa/

FODEP TO MONITOR FORTH COMING BY ELECTIONS PAMBASHE AND PETAUKE CENTRAL

FODEP TO MONITOR FORTH COMING BY ELECTIONS PAMBASHE AND PETAUKE CENTRAL.

THE Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has announced its plans to monitor the upcoming by-elections in Pambashe and Petauke Central.
According to Mumbuna, FODEP remains committed to ensuring that the elections are free and fair.

He emphasised the importance of respecting everyone, regardless of their party affiliation, and learning from past experiences, such as the Kawambwa by-election, where imposing candidates on voters was a major issue ¹.

Mumbuna also stressed that all political parties must desist from vote-buying, a practice that undermines the integrity of the electoral process.

FODEP’s commitment to monitoring the by-elections is a welcome development, as it will help ensure that the elections are transparent, credible, and reflect the will of the people.

“It’s worth noting that the by-elections in Pambashe and Petauke Central are significant, as they will test the ruling party’s popularity and the opposition’s ability to mobilise support. With FODEP’s monitoring, the elections are likely to be closely watched, and any irregularities or malpractices will be brought to light,’’ he said.

And FODEP also has commended the government for its swift response to the drought that has affected various sectors of the economy, but also highlighted several critical governance concerns that warrant urgent attention.

FODEP President Mwenda Mumbuna noted that the drought has severely impacted the Agriculture and Energy sectors, leading to widespread economic and job losses, particularly in the informal sector.

Mr. Mumbuna applauded the government’s initiatives, such as the opening of the electricity sector to private investment in renewable energy and the efforts of the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to distribute relief food and implement cash-for-work programs.

However, he emphasised the need for more accessibility and sustainability in these initiatives and urged the government to prioritise the proactive enforcement of regulations to prevent environmental degradation.

‘’FODEP also expressed concern over restrictions on the freedom of assembly for opposition parties, the delayed enactment of the Public Gathering Bill, and the need for tangible results in the fight against corruption,’’ said Mumbuna.

Mr. Mumbuna further urged the government to address concerns raised by civil society organizations regarding the 2024 NGO Bill and the 2024 Cybersecurity Bill, as these have significant implications for civil liberties and the operational environment for ngos in Zambia.

‘’As Zambia approaches the 2026 general elections, FODEP emphasized the importance of pursuing constitutional and electoral reforms through broad consultations, engagements, and consensus to address the many concerns by stakeholders,’’ he stated.

Zimbabwe Confirms Ambitious Plan To Establish Nuclear Power Stations With Russia’s Support To End Load Shedding

Zimbabwe Confirms Plan for Nuclear Power Stations with Russia’s Help
Zimbabwe has confirmed plans to collaborate with Russia to develop nuclear power stations. The move aims to end the country’s crippling load shedding, which has left citizens without electricity for up to 18 hours daily.

Aiming for Energy Independence
According to VOA, Edgar Moyo, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Energy and Power Development, revealed the plans during a press briefing. He stated the country had expressed its nuclear energy ambitions to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“They have indicated their willingness to take us through paces until we get there,” Moyo said.

The goal is to establish small, modular reactors that could significantly boost the nation’s energy output. Zimbabwe aims to achieve 4,000 megawatts of power capacity by 2035, up from the current 2,600 megawatts.

Gloria Magombo, Secretary for Energy and Power Development, highlighted the government’s broader focus on renewable energy.

“We are looking at coming in by 2030 with up to about 2,000 megawatts” from solar, wind, and mini-hydro stations, she said.

Experts Warn of Challenges
The project’s complexity and costs have drawn scrutiny. Joseph Siegle, Director of Research at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, voiced concerns over the financial and security implications.

“Most economists would argue that those deals cost far more than are warranted for the benefits they provide,” Siegle said. He warned that such projects are often susceptible to corruption.

“In the end, it becomes the public in the country that is building the plant that would be responsible for paying off these costs,” he added.

Nuclear energy’s waste management also raises questions. “What you do with the waste, which requires some 10,000 years for the radioactive elements to decay, has always been a concern,” Siegle said.

Renewables Still on the Agenda
While nuclear power is a significant focus, Zimbabwe is also exploring other energy sources. Magombo noted that the government plans to expand its use of solar, wind, and mini-hydro projects to address recurring droughts that have hindered hydropower generation.

The announcement signals Zimbabwe’s commitment to addressing its energy crisis, but it remains to be seen how the ambitious nuclear project will unfold.

Diddy Allegedly Refusing To Leave Jail Cell To Avoid Sexual Assault Lawsuits

Diddy is reportedly refusing to leave his jail cell to receive acceptance of various sexual assault lawsuits.

While countless lawsuits have been filed against the Bad Boy Records founder while he sits in jail awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, he is accused of delaying proceedings two particular cases.

In filings on Monday (December 30), Tony Buzbee’s co-counsel claims that Puffy is “refusing to leave his cell to accept service,” causing a hold-up in the lawsuits.

The attorney is also requesting the respective judges to adjourn scheduled conferences on January 10 and push them back to February, although it appears an agreement has been reached between the two sets of lawyers on how each case will proceed.

Diddy and his legal team have yet to comment on the claim about him refusing to leave his cell.

The latest lawsuit filed against the embattled mogul accuses him of throwing wild parties and sexually harassing employees.\

In the filing, obtained by TMZ, a man by the name of Phillip Pines is suing Diddy for sexual battery, sexual harassment and sex trafficking during his time employed by the Bad Boy boss as an assistant between 2019 and 2021.

According to the suit, Pines’ duties included setting up hotel rooms and cleaning them afterwards for events purportedly titled “Wild King Nights.”

Pines claims that he would stock Puffy’s hotel rooms with items such as alcohol, honey packs for male libido, baby oil, Astro glide, sex machines and illegal drugs.

He alleges that the parties would sometimes go on for days and that after they were finished he would have to clean up bodily fluids, drug residue, condoms and blood. Pines says that hotel cleaners were tipped generously so that the chaos wasn’t reported.

Pines further alleges that Diddy forced him to have sex with a woman while he watched.

Diddy and his legal team vehemently denied the allegations, saying in a statement: “No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor.

Married Woman Dumped by Husband After Flirty Concert Encounter Where She Kissed Romeo Santos

Married Woman’s Kiss with Romeo Santos Ends 10-Year Marriage
A passionate fan moment has cost a woman her marriage of 10 years. Miriam Cruz, a self-proclaimed superfan of Grammy-winning artist Romeo Santos, was caught on video kissing the Aventura vocalist during one of his electrifying concerts. The incident, which occurred while Santos was interacting with fans on stage, quickly went viral on social media. It wasn’t long before the footage reached her husband, who, without hesitation, decided to end their decade-long union.

What seemed like a fleeting moment of euphoria turned into a storm of heartbreak for Cruz. In a tearful social media post, she admitted that her impulsive actions had shattered her marriage and pledged to take responsibility for her behaviour.

“I have to admit that this achievement came at a very high cost: the breakup of my 10-year marriage,” Cruz confessed. “I admit that I got carried away by nerves and emotion, without considering how this could affect my family. Today I am overcome with deep sadness when I realise the impact I caused, but I must be responsible for my actions, and I respect his decision.”

The Moment That Went Viral
Romeo Santos, renowned for his captivating performances and fan interactions, was performing to a packed crowd when he invited fans on stage to share the moment with him. Among those lucky enough to join him was Cruz, who caught the singer’s attention with her enthusiasm.

As the music played and emotions ran high, Cruz jumped onto Santos and held him in a tight embrace before planting a passionate kiss on the vocalist. The act, caught on multiple cameras, spread like wildfire on social media. Many fans praised the singer’s charm, while others focused on the consequences Cruz faced for her brief moment in the spotlight.

The video eventually made its way to her husband, who, according to sources close to the couple, felt deeply betrayed. Within days, he filed for divorce, sparking widespread debate about boundaries, respect, and forgiveness in relationships.

Husband Speaks Out
Amid the online uproar, Cruz’s husband decided to break his silence. While many assumed the kiss alone led to the split, he clarified that the couple had been dealing with unresolved issues long before the concert.

“The kiss with Romeo Santos was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” he explained. “But it wasn’t the main reason for the divorce. There were other issues in the marriage leading up to this.”

Despite his statement, many on social media remained divided. Some supported his decision to end the marriage, citing the need for respect and accountability in partnerships. Others criticised him for allegedly being insecure.

One commenter wrote, “Marriages are built on trust and respect. If she’s willing to do this in public, who knows what else she’s capable of?”

Another user fired back, “He’s overreacting. It was just a kiss at a concert. She was caught up in the moment!”

Romeo Santos, known for his sensual stage presence, has not commented on the controversy. However, his concerts are well-known for intimate fan interactions, often adding to the allure of his performances.

Cruz’s Tearful Apology
In her emotional social media post, Cruz admitted to acting on impulse and acknowledged the pain she had caused her family.

“I acted without thinking, and now I have to face the consequences,” she wrote. “To my husband, I am truly sorry. This was never my intention, but I understand why he feels the way he does. I can only hope for forgiveness, even if it’s not today.”

Cruz also expressed regret over how the incident affected her children, friends, and extended family, calling it “a moment of weakness that will haunt me forever.”

“He Promised To Take Care Of Me” – Girlfriend Harasses Dead Lover’s Wife Demanding Share Of Assets

Shock as Girlfriend Demands Dead Lover’s Assets from His Widow

A Harare widow, Mary Karimanzira, has been granted a peace order against her late husband’s girlfriend, Prudence Muzaradenga, who has been harassing her demanding a share of the deceased man’s property and assets. The dramatic case, which unfolded at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, revealed a love triangle that came to light under tragic circumstances.

“I Had No Idea About His Affair”
H-Metro reports that Karimanzira told the court that her husband’s infidelity only became known after his untimely death. According to her, the shocking revelation occurred when Muzaradenga called to inform her that her husband had died at her house.

“I was devastated because not only had I lost my husband, but I also discovered that he had been involved in extramarital affairs,” Karimanzira said, holding back tears.

The widow claimed Muzaradenga has been harassing her since the funeral, repeatedly showing up at her home and demanding a share of her late husband’s assets.

“She has no rightful claim to my husband’s house. My husband and I worked hard to build our life together, and I will not let someone who was secretly involved with him try to take what’s mine,” Karimanzira added.

“He Promised to Take Care of Me”
In her defence, the girlfriend admitted to having had a long-term relationship with the deceased. She argued that her claims were justified because of promises made by her late lover.

“We were together for years, and he promised to take care of me. I deserve a share of his property because I was also his wife,” Muzaradenga told the court.

Her insistence on being considered a second wife was met with disbelief from Karimanzira, who maintained that Muzaradenga had no legal or moral claim to her family’s assets.

Court Grants Peace Order
Presiding over the matter, Magistrate Meenal Narotam ruled in favour of Karimanzira. The court granted her a peace order, which prohibits Muzaradenga from harassing or contacting her in any way.

In delivering the judgement, Magistrate Narotam reminded both parties that disputes over property inheritance should be resolved through proper legal channels.

The ruling brought relief to Karimanzira, who expressed hope that the ordeal was over.

JAY-Z Launches Fresh Bid To Dismiss Rape Lawsuit Over Legal Loopholes

JAY-Z is yet again seeking to dismiss the lawsuit which accuses him of raping a 13-year-old girl, this time by relying on legal technicalities.

Just last week, the Roc Nation mogul motioned to have the suit dismissed and his accuser’s identity publicly revealed. However, both requests were denied by a judge.

In a new filing, Jay’s lawyer Alex Spiro is pushing to dismiss the suit based on two legal loopholes relating to the time and location of the alleged incident.

In it, Spiro argues that the woman’s rape claim doesn’t fall under the “lookback” window of New York City’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act (GMVA) as the alleged assault occured several months after the law was established.

“Plaintiff asserts a violation of the GMV Law for conduct that purportedly occurred in September 2000. But the GMV Law was not enacted until December 19, 2000, three months after the FAC claims the conduct occurred, and cannot apply retroactively to create a cause of action unavailable to Plaintiff at the time in question,” the filing reads.

The letter cites a separate case where a judge dismissed a rape lawsuit against Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler because it missed the GMVA revival window.

Spiro further argues that the woman’s lawsuit should be tossed because the GMVA statute only applies to incidents within city limits, whereas she claims she was raped at a property that Spiro says “would have been located outside the territorial boundaries of New York City.”

The anonymous woman alleges she was raped at an afterparty hosted by Diddy at a “large white residence with a gated U-shaped driveway” roughly 20 minutes away by car from NYC’s Radio City Music Hall, where the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards were hosted earlier that night.

She claims Diddy took turns with JAY-Z raping her in a bedroom after she was drugged.

Her attorney, Tony Buzbee, has yet to respond to the filing.

Kenya: Ruto admits security abuses amid kidnapping outrage

0

President William Ruto has for the first time publicly acknowledged the abuse of power by Kenya’s security forces, following a wave of controversial kidnappings that have sparked widespread protests.

In a statement during his New Year’s address on Tuesday, Ruto admitted that there had been “instances of excessive and extrajudicial actions” by security personnel but did not provide specifics.

His comments come after youth-led demonstrations over alleged abductions by security forces, particularly after the violent repression of protests in June and July. These protests, aimed at addressing growing concerns over disappearances, were met with heavy force, including tear gas and mass detentions.

“That said, it is crucial to remember that every freedom has its limits, and public safety and order must always supersede the desire for unchecked liberty,” Ruto stated.

Amid ongoing concerns, human rights activists have expressed alarm over what they perceive as the government’s failure to investigate these disappearances thoroughly. A recent court ruling demanded that five men who had been reportedly abducted by security forces be freed immediately, or the police must provide an explanation under oath.

However, no one was brought to court on Tuesday, and the police inspector general sent a representative in his place. The families of the missing are growing increasingly desperate.

The latest disappearances predominantly involve young individuals critical of Ruto, including two who shared a controversial AI-generated image of the president lying in a coffin. In his address, Ruto linked these incidents to the rise in digital manipulation, including harmful social media activity. “These are clear signals that our moral fabric is at risk of decay,” Ruto remarked.

Human Rights Watch has pointed to a special security unit composed of several agencies, with the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reporting seven abductions this month alone, six of which are still missing. Since June, 29 people out of 82 reported disappearances remain unaccounted for, intensifying calls for accountability from both government and security forces.

South Korea’s Yoon will be arrested within deadline – Anti-graft chief

0

South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol will be arrested before a warrant issued over his short-lived declaration of martial law expires next week, the country’s chief anticorruption investigator has said.

Oh Dong-woon, the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, told reporters on Wednesday that the arrest warrant against Yoon would be executed “within the valid period”, the last day of which is Monday.

“We aim for a smooth process without major disturbances, but we are also coordinating to mobilise police and personnel in preparation,” Oh told reporters at the government complex in Gwacheon, south of Seoul.

Oh warned that anyone seeking to block Yoon’s arrest could be prosecuted.

“We consider actions such as setting up various barricades and locking iron gates to resist the execution of our arrest warrant as obstruction of official duties,” he said.

Speculation about when and how authorities would take Yoon into custody has swirled since the country’s Joint Investigation Headquarters sought a warrant for his arrest, which a Seoul court granted on Tuesday.

Yoon’s security detail previously blocked investigators from executing several search warrants directed at the president, and local media have suggested that authorities would be unlikely to forcibly detain the embattled leader without coordinating with his bodyguards.

If arrested, Yoon would be the first sitting president taken into custody in South Korean history.

He is facing criminal charges of abuse of power and insurrection, a crime punishable by life imprisonment or the death penalty, over his brief imposition of martial law on December 3, which plunged South Korea into its biggest political crisis in decades.

Yoon’s legal team has argued that the warrant is “illegal and invalid” as investigators do not have the authority to investigate the president for insurrection.

Yoon, who served as the nation’s top prosecutor before entering politics, has been suspended from his duties since December 14, when the National Assembly voted 204-85 for his impeachment.

Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok has served as acting president since Friday, when the legislature voted to impeach Yoon’s initial successor, Han Duck-soo, over his refusal to immediately appoint three justices to the country’s Constitutional Court.

The court is deliberating whether to uphold Yoon’s impeachment or restore his presidential authority, a process that could take up to six months.

Choi on Tuesday approved the appointment for two justices nominated by the parliament, leaving just one vacancy on the bench.

At least six justices on the nine-member court must approve Yoon’s impeachment to remove him from office.

Yoon has defended his brief martial law decree as legal and necessary, citing the threat of “anti-state forces” and obstructionism by his opposition rivals.

US military releases long-held Guantanamo detainee to Tunisia

0

The Pentagon has released a Tunisian detainee held in Guantanamo Bay since the first day the notorious prison camp opened in 2002 without ever being charged.

Ridah bin Saleh al-Yazidi was repatriated from the United States military prison in Cuba to Tunisia on Monday, the US Department of Defense said in a statement.

The transfer is the fourth in two weeks by the outgoing Biden administration in a quest to reduce the military prison’s population, which held 40 prisoners when Biden took office in 2020.

Al-Yazidi was “determined transfer-eligible by a rigorous interagency review process”.

“On Jan 31, 2024, Secretary of Defense [Lloyd] Austin notified Congress of his intent to support this repatriation and, in consultation with our partner in Tunisia, we completed the requirements for responsible transfer,” the Pentagon said.

Al-Yazidi, 59, was never charged with a crime by the US and was approved for transfer more than a decade ago, but no agreement with Tunisia’s government was made until now to bring him home.

Pakistani soldiers seized al-Yazidi near the border with Afghanistan in December 2001, and he was suspected of being an al-Qaeda fighter, The New York Times reported.

Twenty-six detainees remain at Guantanamo Bay with 14 eligible for transfer, the statement said.

Three inmates are eligible for a periodic review of their status, seven are currently involved in the military commissions process, and two detainees have been convicted and sentenced, it added.

Al-Yazidi was sent to the prison the day it opened on January 11, 2002, to house detainees captured during the US’s so-called “war on terror” after the September 11, 2001, attacks.

Located at the US military base in Cuba, the prison operates under a legal system led by military commissions that do not guarantee the same rights as traditional US courts.

Inmates cleared for release sometimes spend years at Guantanamo as Washington looks for countries to take them after they are freed, with some governments unwilling to take them back or in.

Guantanamo Bay once housed nearly 800 prisoners, many of whom initially spent time at covert CIA locations known as “black sites” where some were tortured under an “enhanced interrogation” programme authorised by former President George W Bush’s administration.

The facility became a lasting symbol of US abuses during that era. President Barack Obama, who succeeded Bush, promised to close down the facility, but he failed largely because of legal technicalities and domestic political opposition.

Relegation A Possibility For Manchester United -Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that relegation is a possibility for the club following their poor performances in the 2024-25 Premier League season.

The Red Devils suffered a 2-0 loss to Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Monday night to continue their poor run of form, which has left them in 14th place on the log, seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Amorim has endured a tough start to life at Old Trafford since taking over in November, the team has lost six games in all competitions in December. They also conceded 18 goals in December, their most in a month since March 1964 (also 18).

The Portuguese manager has admitted that with the team’s current form, relegation is a possibility if they don’t find a way to end the dismal run, which has seen them lose three consecutive home league games for the first time since February 1979.

Amorim was asked if United were in a battle to avoid relegation, Amorim said: “I think that it is a possibility. We have to be clear with our fans.

“It is also my fault, The team is not improving. It is a little bit lost at the moment and it is a bit embarrassing to be a Manchester United coach and lose a lot of games.

“I think people are tired of excuses at this club. This club needs a shock.

“When you have these kind of moments, especially in the big clubs, it’s really hard to turn things around, especially when you don’t have a lot of time to train the basics, to cope with the difficult moments.

“So we have to acknowledge our position, the way you see the league, everybody can beat everybody.”

The last time Manchester United suffered relegation was in the 1973-74 season.

Four teams have been relegated in the Premier League era having been in United’s current 14th position at the turn of the year.

Amorim also admitted that it is one of the worst moments in the history of the club, while noting that Newcastle deserved the maximum points.

He said: “It was really difficult. They started the game very well and we [conceded] a goal, really nervous. Then the second goal, really early in the game. It was really hard for us. They were better than us. Even during all the game, they controlled. We were better in the second half but that was because my players tried, really tried. But they are, like I said, better than us and they won the game.

Manchester United will end New Year’s Eve in 14th place in the Premier League, their lowest position at the turn of a year in the league since 1989, when they ended that year in 15th, eventually finishing 13th.

The Red Devils will be hoping for a turnaround in 2025 when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Miracle In Zimbabwe: 8-Year-Old Boy Survives 5 Days Alone in Lion-Infested Game Park

8-Year-Old Zimbabwean Boy Survives 5 Days Alone in Lion-Infested Game Park
An extraordinary tale of resilience and survival has unfolded in Zimbabwe, where an 8-year-old boy survived five gruelling days alone in the lion-infested Matusadonha Game Park. The young boy has since been identified as Tinotenda Pudu. This heartwarming story has brought hope and joy to the Kasvisva community in Nyaminyami, Kariba, and beyond.

A Journey into Danger
Tinotenda’s ordeal began when he strayed from his home and found himself deep in Matusadonha, a park renowned for its high lion density. At the end of the five-day period, the 8-year-old had wandered an astonishing 23 kilometres from his home.

Mutsa Murombedzi, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mashonaland West, which covers the area in question, described the danger the boy faced.

“This area, especially near the Hogwe and Ume rivers, is a perilous place. One wrong turn can lead straight into the game park, and it’s not uncommon to hear roaring lions at night. That this young boy survived is nothing short of a miracle.”

His survival instincts were extraordinary and Tinotenda relied on his knowledge of the wild. He ate Nchoomva, a wild fruit known to keep himself nourished. For water, he used a traditional technique. He dug a small hole, a Mufuku in Shona, along the dry riverbank to access underground water. It’s a method taught in these drought-prone areas, and in this case, it saved his life.

Said the MP,

“He survived on eating a wild fruit called Nchoomva in Tonga. It is Tsvanzva like or its actually the Tsvanzva.

“Then (for) water he would go on the dry river bank and use hands and a stick to dig a Mukàla in Tonga or what we call Mufuku in shona and drank water from there.

“He was very frail when he was rescued and had to be put on a drip. On water, what saved him is the technique learnt from a young age in dry and drought prone areas of drawing water from a dry river bank – digging a mufuku”

Murombedzi also recounted how the boy stayed safe from predators. At night, he climbed onto a rocky outcrop, away from the ground where lions and other animals roam freely.

The Search Efforts
The rescue effort involved a combined effort of park rangers and the Nyaminyami community. Said Murombedzi,

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude to the brave park rangers, the tireless Nyaminyami community who beat night drums each day to get the boy to hear sound and get the directions back home and everyone who joined the search.

On the fifth day, Tinotenda heard a vehicle in the distance.

“He tried to run toward the sound but couldn’t reach it,” the MP explained. “Later, he spotted tyre tracks near his rocky outcrop.

“Luckily, the park rangers when they were coming back they used the same path. They saw fresh little human footprints and scoured the area and found him. This was probably his last chance of being rescued after five days in the wilderness.”

When the rangers found him, he was weak and dehydrated. They immediately put him on a drip to stabilise him.

A Community Rejoices
The miraculous survival of Tinotenda brought widespread relief and joy.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude to the rangers and the community,” said Murombedzi. “This is a testament to the power of unity, hope, and prayer. Above all, we thank God for keeping Tinotenda safe.”

On social media, Zimbabweans celebrated the rescue.

“What a miracle! Praise be to God. This area is lion-infested,” wrote one user.

The MP confirmed this, highlighting that at one time, Matusadonha Game Park had the second-highest density of lions in Africa.

“Lion manifested indeed and at one point Matusadonha once held the second largest density of lions, second only to the Ngorongoro Conservation in Tanzania at that time. Numbers are on the rebound again thanks to conservation efforts.”

Another social media beautifully summed up the situation, saying,

“This is the most uplifting news to start the year.”

Lebron James says playing for many years is possible for him but he certainly won’t

LeBron James is now 40 and has revealed that he could play for many more years at the top level, yet will certainly not be doing that.

King James expressed his desire to finish his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers and said: “I think that’s the plan. I would love for it to end here.”

He revealed in an interview that he could maintain his high-level performance for about five to seven years but indicated he has no plans of playing for that long.

“To be honest, if I really wanted to, I’d probably play this game at a high level for about another… it’s weird that I might say this, but probably about another five to seven years, if I wanted to,” he said. “But I’m not going to do that.”

James also stated that once he retires, he does not intend to return to the game and ruled out the possibility of coming back from retirement like some iconic athletes have.

“No no, but I will miss the hell out of it for sure,” King James said. “But I won’t walk away and come back. No.”

Since he joined the Lakers in 2018, LeBron James has been key in leading the team to an NBA championship in 2020.

This season, he continues to perform at an elite level and Is averaging 23.5 points, 9.0 assists, and 7.9 rebounds per game, despite suffering some fitness issues.

Though he’s opened up on his future, James remains committed to finishing his career with the Lakers and will be aiming to avoid any further transitions.

“I came here to finish the last stage of my career and to finish it off here,” he said. “Hopefully I don’t have to go nowhere before my career is over.”

King James is now 40 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest NBA stars in history.

He has featured in the NBA for 22 successive seasons and continues to smash records as his retirement beckons.

It is a delight for many fans to still see him competing at such a ‘high level’, playing alongside his son Bronny James.

The Lakers have come under pressure this season in James’ short absence. However, they seem to have found the much-needed consistency after his return and with James in their fold, they’ve got a shot at securing titles at the end of the season.

Joe Budden Charged With Lewdness For Allegedly Creeping On Neighbor While N@ked

Joe Budden has been charged with lewdness after allegedly standing outside his neighbor’s property while naked.
Edgewater Police Department in New Jersey confirmed in a press release that the rapper-turned-podcaster was charged earlier this month over the alleged incident.

Budden is accused of standing outside his neighbor’s apartment door “completely naked” in the early hours of December 4 and “attempting to enter a code into the door keypad several times before reentering his own residence across the hall,” according to police.

His bizarre behavior was allegedly captured on the neighbor’s doorbell camera and was watched live by the resident and their two juvenile daughters on a phone.

Budden was subsequently charged with lewdness (disorderly persons offense), although the press release notes that “these charges are merely accusations and and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

In response, Budden’s lawyer Nima Ameri told TMZ that his client is disappointed by the charges being made public and that he is pursuing his own legal action against the neighbor.

“Mr. Budden is saddened by Police Chief Martin’s press release. Mr. Budden has been waiting weeks for his cross complaints to be processed which include substantially more serious charges include possible felony charges against the persons behind these charges against him,” Ameri said.

“The Chief has in our opinion sat on those but instead used his time to gain some free publicity for himself. Chief Martin should seek publicity by doing notable policing not inflaming disorderly person allegations.”

The attorney further accused Edgewater Police chief Donald A. Martin of racism: “The allegations against Mr. Budden are a minor charge, not even resulting in an arrest. A charge Mr. Budden is looking forward to beating in court on the merits, not in the press. The Chief’s comments are reckless, and in our opinion racially motivated.

“Our research has not shown a single press release on a disorderly person charge on the police website this year. His choice to single out Mr. Budden in our opinion is self motivated and based off of Mr. Budden’s race and celebrity status.”

China’s Xi highlights ‘world peace’ in New Year’s message to Russia’s Putin

0

Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to promote “world peace” in a New Year’s message to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

“No matter how the international situation changes, China will remain steadfast in further comprehensively deepening reform … and promoting world peace and development,” Xi said on Tuesday, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Since Putin’s full-scale invasion of neighbouring Ukraine in February 2022, China has sought to present itself as a neutral party – unlike the United States and other Western nations.

But it remains a close political and economic partner of Russia, leading some NATO members to brand Beijing an “enabler” of the war.

According to CCTV, Xi told Putin: “In the face of rapidly evolving changes not seen in a century and the turbulent international situation, China and Russia have consistently moved forward hand-in-hand along the correct path of non-alignment, non-confrontation, and not targeting any third party.”

The two presidents share a strong personal bond with Xi calling his Russian counterpart his “best friend” and Putin cherishing his “reliable partner”.

Their relationship has been a constant despite a decade of growing friction with Western countries, exemplified by Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Xi noted to Putin that 2024 marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, according to CCTV, “representing a new important milestone in the relationship between the two countries”.

“After three-quarters of a century of ups and downs, China-Russia relations have become increasingly mature and stable,” Xi said.

‘Everything will be fine’

Russia has strengthened its unity in the first quarter of the 21st century, achieving significant goals and overcoming trials and tribulations, said Putin in his New Year’s address.

“And now, on the threshold of the new year, we are thinking about the future. We are confident that everything will be fine, we will only move forward. We know for sure that the absolute value for us was, is and will be the fate of Russia, the well-being of its citizens,” he said.

Putin paid tribute to Russian soldiers fighting in the war in Ukraine describing them as “true heroes”, but did not refer in detail to the state of the conflict or make predictions for how the battlefield situation would evolve in 2025.

Meanwhile, in his New Year’s speech, Xi said no one can stop China’s “reunification” with Taiwan, laying down a clear warning to what Beijing regards as pro-independence forces within and outside of the island of 23 million people.

“The people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family. No one can sever our family bonds, and no one can stop the historical trend of national reunification,” said China’s leader.

Tensions have remained high throughout the year in the sensitive Taiwan Strait, especially after William Lai Ching-te, deemed a “separatist” by Beijing, became the island’s latest president in May.

At least 10 killed in New Orleans vehicle ramming attack

0

At least 10 people have been killed and 30 others injured after a driver crashed his vehicle into a crowd at high speed in the city of New Orleans in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

On Wednesday, officials in the United States city described the car-ramming as a deliberate attack.

“This man was trying to run over as many people as he could,” New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told reporters on Wednesday. “He was hellbent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did.”

The incident occurred around 3.15am (09:15 GMT) near the intersection of Canal and Bourbon streets, a busy pedestrian thoroughfare in the heart of New Orleans’s historic French Quarter, the city said in a statement.

Kirkpatrick said the driver shot two police officers after the vehicle crashed. She said the officers were in “stable” condition.

The suspect, who initially fled after exchanging gunfire with police, has been killed, United States media reported, citing local law enforcement officials.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell described the incident as a “terrorist attack”.

We do know the city of New Orleans was impacted by a terrorist attack,” she said in a pre-dawn news conference. “It’s all still under investigation.”

But Alethea Duncan, an assistant special agent in charge of the New Orleans field office for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), said: “This is not a terrorist event.”

Later, the FBI said in a statement “We are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism.”

The White House said that US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and confirmed that the FBI is on the ground alongside local law enforcement.

Videos shared online and verified by Al Jazeera show people fleeing the scene of the incident after gunshots rang out.

“A horrific act of violence took place on Bourbon Street earlier this morning,” Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said on the social media platform X, urging people to stay away from the area where the attack took place.

The incident came towards the end of New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans and hours before the kickoff of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, a college football quarterfinal held in the city’s Caesars Superdome, with thousands expected to be in attendance.

New Orleans has seen shootings and cars colliding with crowds at past parades.

In November 2024, two people were killed and 10 others injured in two separate shootings along a New Orleans parade route attended by thousands, local media reported.

In February 2017, a pickup truck driven by a man who police said appeared to be highly intoxicated plowed into a crowd of spectators watching the main Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans, injuring more than 20 people.

Zimbabwe abolishes death penalty

0

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has approved a law that abolishes the death penalty
Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has approved a law that abolishes the death penalty in the southern African state with immediate effect.

Rights group Amnesty hailed the decision as a “beacon of hope for the abolitionist movement in the region”, but expressed regret that the death penalty could be reinstated during a state of emergency.

Mnangagwa’s move comes after Zimbabwe’s parliament voted earlier in December to scrap the death penalty.

Zimbabwe last carried out an execution by hanging in 2005, but its courts continued to hand down the death sentence for serious crimes like murder.

About 60 people were on death row at the end of 2023, according to Amnesty.

They will be re-sentenced by the courts, with judges ordered to consider the nature of their crime, the time they spent on death row and their personal circumstances, the state-owned Herald newspaper reports.

Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said the abolition of the death penalty was “more than a legal reform; it is a statement of our commitment to justice and humanity”.

The death sentence was introduced in what is now Zimbabwe during British colonial rule.

Mnangagwa has been a long-standing critic of capital punishment, citing his own experience of being sentenced to death in the 1960s for blowing up a train during the guerrilla war for independence.

His sentence was later commuted to 10 years in prison.

The Death Penalty Abolition Act was published in the government gazette on Tuesday after Mnangagwa signed it into law.

Amnesty said the move was not “just great progress” for Zimbabwe but also a “major milestone” in international efforts to end “this ultimate cruel, inhuman, and degrading punishment”.

It urged the Zimbabwean authorities to “remove the clause included in the amendments to the Bill allowing for the use of the death penalty for the duration of any state of public emergency”.

Mnangagwa’s Zanu-PF party has ruled Zimbabwe since independence in 1980.

It has repeatedly been accused by opposition and rights groups of ruling with an iron fist in its bid to remain in power.

Globally, 113 countries, including 24 in Africa, have fully abolished the death penalty, according to Amnesty.

The five countries with the highest number of executions in 2023 were China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and the US, the rights group added.

Lil Durk’s Dad Slams U.S. Government Over Murder-For-Hire Charges

Lil Durk‘s father is understandably frustrated by his son’s recent arrest and suspects there may be deeper motives at play involving the government.

Dontay “Big Durk” Banks spoke out this week in what appears to be a press conference of sorts this week, breaking his silence on his son’s murder-for-hire charges.

After thanking the fans for their support, Banks said: “I’ll leave all legal issues to the lawyers [but] as far as the family, as far as me as a father, the only thing I can say is that it’s mighty strange that once he start doing good out there, once he stayed away from all the gang banging and dissing the dead and doing things out there in the street – when he turned his life around, when he on his deen now practicing religion, doing things for the community, bringing about peace in Chicago and throughout various cities, all of a sudden now he’s being indicted.

“Just right off the Muslim conference that we had in Chicago calling for peace – now three to four days later, he’s being indicted after that. When he put up [on the screen] at his concert all of the people that got killed in Chicago showing that this is not what it’s about and then he gets indicted. So look at the bigger picture here. Look at what the government’s trying to do. Their whole thing is if you’re doing wrong, you’re doing bad, then that’s good for them because that fills up the prison. But when you start doing right and tell people to stop doing wrong, then all of a sudden you an enemy to them and they have to lock you up.”

Lil Durk is facing serious murder-for-hire charges involving the killing of Quando Rondo‘s cousin Saviay’a Robinson, but one bit of the prosecution’s case just met a serious challenge from engineer and producer jusvibes.

The engineer, real name Justin Gibson, has been working with Durk since 2021 and describes himself as the Chicago artist’s “main sound engineer” — a claim that photo evidence bears out.

Chitambala Must Apologise to Dandy Krazy and families to the deceased persons- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Chitambala Must Apologise to Dandy Krazy and families to the deceased persons

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

On New Year’s Eve, musical artist,  Wesley Chibambo, a.k.a. Dandy Krazy, his musical and production crew had a gig in Kitwe.

On their way, sadly a careless, over-speeding and dangerous truck driver went into their lane and rammed into the vehicle near Kapiri Mposhi.

This resulted in a fatal and tragic accident that saw four people die.

The driver of the Shackman truck, identified as Mr. Hachalwa Lweendo, aged 28, of house number 175/48, Makeni Township, Lusaka, has since handed himself over to the authorities.

Lweendo, who is an employee of Kresco General Dealers based in Lusaka, handed himself at  Luanshimba Security Check-point.

Enter vlogger Chitambala Mwewa a.k.a Simon Mwewa Lane.

Mwewa immediately condemned Dandy Krazy accusing him and his fellow artist of drinking and driving.

He used derogatory epithets against Dandy Krazy.

There was an immediate backlash against these social-media posts by Chitambala and his false assertions that Dandy Krazy was drinking and driving.

Mwewa’s rantings exposed his naked hatred he harbours against Zambian musicians and the Patriotic Front.

But probably to Mwewa’s greatest shame, both President Hakainde Hichilema and former President Edgar Lungu have issued statements of condolences and words of prayers and encouragement to Dandy Krazy and the deceased families.

Further, the Ministry of Youth, Sport & Arts has condemned Simon Mwewa for  his foolish, prejudicial and insensitive remarks against Dandy Krazy and other artists, who he assumes just spend time consuming alcohol and being careless.

But Mwewa has remained unrepentant  posting more views; “Don’t drink and Drive” even when it is clear that Dandy Krazy who is still battling for his life and admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and the deceased support crew, are mere victims of this accident crash.

We should remember that Simon Mwewa was part of the political campaigns for the Patriotic Front in 2021 and was handsomely paid for his influencer work.

But to create distance with the party, when President Hichilema won the 2021 elections, Simon lept to their side and began a vicious campaign against the PF terming it as the Notorious Patriotic Front (NPF).

He raised a slanderous and defamatory social-media campaign against former President Lungu, his family and senior leaders of the party such Stephen Kampyongo, Bowman Lusambo and others.
He was looking for attention. He got it.

With this opportunistic and shameless campaign against the PF, he was embraced by the UPND and was used as a useful idiot in the fight against the Patriotic Front.

So in his self-serving view and opportunistic move, he assumed that because Dandy Krazy was associated with the Patriotic Front,  he could pour scorn and ridicule even if he was dying or dead.

But whatever Mwewa’s estimation of Dandy Krazy, he is not an ordinary mortal.

Dandy is a big musical artist in our country.

Further, Dandy is not only a celebrated artist, but he is also honoured person.

On Independence Day in 2011, President Michael Sata bestowed the Grand Commander of the Order of Freedom Award for his revolutionary song “Donchi Kubeba” and for his artistic contribution to the major political changes that took place in the 2011 elections.

It is clear that at this stage,  Mwewa must apologise for his unafrican, insensitive and irrational remarks against Dandy Krazy and the deceased’s family.

THANDIWE SCHOOLS CARELESS “GIANT” SIMOn  MWEWA  LANE

EDITOR’S CHOICE – THANDIWE SCHOOLS CARELESS “GIANT” MWEWA

Open Letter to Mr Simon Mwewa

Dear Mr. Mwewa,

I trust this letter reaches you in good health, but the reason I write today is far from a pleasant one. I am deeply disturbed by the callous and irresponsible comments you posted on your social media in the aftermath of the tragic road traffic accident involving renowned artist Wesley Chibambo, also known as Daddy Krazy. Your post, which attacked and belittled artists in a highly degrading manner, has ignited widespread outrage and disbelief, leaving many to question your complete lack of empathy and common sense.

The accident occurred along the Great North Road, between Kabwe and Kapiri, when a Shacman truck, driven by Kachalwa Lweendo, lost control due to excessive speed and collided with two vehicles. Tragically, the driver of the Toyota Allex and two passengers lost their lives at the scene, while Daddy Krazy, who was also in the Toyota Allex, sustained severe injuries. Additionally, the driver of the Nissan Hardbody involved in the crash was another life lost in this horrific tragedy.

Yet, instead of showing any decency or compassion in response to this devastating event, you took to social media to make a repugnant comment that singled out and mocked artists, saying, “You dunda head artists… don’t drink and drive. Muzafa.” This remark was made despite the fact that police had already confirmed the cause of the crash was the reckless driving of the Shacman truck driver. Your post blatantly disregarded the truth, focusing instead on casting blame on an entire group—artists—who had no involvement in the accident whatsoever.

Mr. Mwewa, I must ask: What on earth possessed you to make such an ignorant and cruel statement at a time like this? Lives were lost, a beloved public figure is fighting for his life in the hospital, and yet you chose to mock and generalize an entire profession in the most thoughtless way possible. Your words were not only insensitive; they were a complete distortion of the facts. The real cause of this tragedy, as confirmed by law enforcement, was the reckless actions of the truck driver. Yet, in your self-righteousness, you chose to deflect the blame and direct it at innocent people for no reason other than your own misguided impulse.

If the public backlash you received wasn’t enough, you followed up by defending your offensive statement with an even more disgraceful justification: “ONLY DRUNKARDS ARE OFFENDED BY THAT POST…KAILI 90% OF ZAMBIANS ARE DRUNKARDS.” To say this was irresponsible would be an understatement. How could someone with your platform—someone who should be using their influence for positive change—utter such harmful, divisive, and deeply irresponsible words that only serve to perpetuate damaging stereotypes and division?

What is most shocking, and frankly unforgivable, is the complete lack of empathy in your words. Instead of seizing this moment to encourage responsibility, promote road safety, or offer condolences to the grieving families, you chose to belittle an entire group of people for the sake of making a cheap point. That point was not only misguided but downright cruel, especially when so many are mourning the loss of their loved ones.

It is difficult for me to fathom that your actions were not driven by a desire to provoke attention or expand your audience at the expense of others’ suffering. If, however, that is the case, then it is clear that you are treading a dangerously reckless path. No amount of social media clout or attention can justify the kind of thoughtless, harmful comments you have made during this tragic time.

As a public figure, you carry a significant responsibility. Your words have the power to influence, to heal, and to educate. Instead, your comments have contributed to further division, disrespect, and an utter disregard for the grief and pain that families are enduring. Your words matter, Mr. Mwewa, and they are either a force for compassion and unity or they continue to undermine the very fabric of our society.

I implore you to take a long, hard look at the consequences of your statements. Reflect on the kind of example you are setting for your followers, especially given the position you hold in the public eye. It is not too late to right this wrong. You still have the opportunity to issue a sincere apology, demonstrate genuine empathy, and use your platform to drive conversations about responsible driving, the importance of compassion, and the value of human life.

I strongly urge you to recognize the severity of the situation and reconsider the approach you’ve taken. We all have a role to play in shaping a society that upholds respect, empathy, and human dignity, particularly in times of tragedy. Your actions can either contribute to healing or continue to perpetuate harm. The choice is yours.

Sincerely,
Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

GOVERNMENT CANES SIMON MWEWA LANE FOR HIS INSENSITIVE COMMENTS ON DUNDY KRAZY AND ARTIST THAT HAVE DIED IN ROAD ACCIDENT

MINISTRY OF YOUTH, SPORT AND ARTS
PRESS STATEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: 1st January 2025

STATEMENT ON DEROGATORY REMARKS BY SIMON CHITAMBALA TOWARDS ZAMBIAN ARTISTS

The Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts has noted with concern the derogatory remarks made by social media content creator Mr. Simon Chitambala, popularly known as Simon Mwewa Lane, on his Facebook page regarding Zambian artists. These comments, which demean and belittle the hardworking men and women in the arts sector, are unfortunate, especially in light of the tragic events surrounding one of Zambia’s renowned artists, Wesley Chibambo, popularly known as Dandy Crazy, who was recently involved in a fatal accident that claimed lives.

As a senior member of society, Mr. Chitambala has a moral and social responsibility to inspire, guide, and encourage the younger generation. Such remarks, however, are not only demeaning but also contrary to the values we seek to promote as a nation. The arts sector plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of Zambia, and any statements that undermine its significance are deeply regrettable.

We wish to remind Mr. Chitambala and other stakeholders that if there are any concerns regarding the conduct or performance of artists, the Ministry operates an open-door policy and is always available to engage in constructive dialogue. Publicly degrading our artists is not the way to address any perceived shortcomings.

We also take this opportunity to celebrate the recent achievements of five Zambian artists, namely Mr. Robert Banda, Stanley Mwaba, Ms. Clementina Mulenga and Mr. Chaka Nyathando, who were honored with Special Awards at the prestigious African Music Awards (AMA) Academy.

These accolades are a testament to the resilience, dedication, and talent within the sector. It is disheartening to see these successes overshadowed by unwarranted criticism.

Government through the Ministry stands firm in its commitment to supporting and promoting the welfare of all artists in Zambia. We urge all citizens, particularly influencers and opinion leaders, to use their platforms to encourage positive discourse, build unity, and inspire growth within the creative sector.

We call on Mr. Chitambala to reflect on his statement and consider issuing an apology to the sector. We believe that through constructive engagement, we can all work together to uplift the arts industry and achieve excellence.

Mr. Syakalima’s Shameful Remarks: A Call for Leadership That Unites, Not Divides

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

On January 1, 2025, News Diggers reported an outrageous statement allegedly made by Mr. Douglas Syakalima, the Minister of Education, in which he referred to members of the Patriotic Front (PF) as “monkeys.” Such language, coming from someone in a position of national leadership, is not only deeply offensive but also profoundly dangerous. It highlights an utter disregard for the principles of unity, respect, and national cohesion that are essential for Zambia’s progress.

This is far from the first time Mr. Syakalima has shown such reckless disregard for decency. He has previously disparaged the people of Luapula Province, claiming they suffer from a “poverty of the mind.” These are not mere insults—they are a direct assault on the dignity of entire communities, an outright dismissal of their struggles, and an attack on the very essence of servant leadership.

Leadership Is a Sacred Responsibility, Not a Privilege

Mr. Syakalima, as the Minister of Education, must be reminded in no uncertain terms that his position is not a personal entitlement, but a responsibility entrusted to him by the Zambian people. His recent derogatory remarks about the Patriotic Front (PF) and his previous disparagement of Luapula Province residents reveal an appalling disregard for the citizens he is meant to serve.

The Ministry of Education is a critical institution, one that should foster inclusivity, growth, and unity. It is not a platform for reckless insults or divisive rhetoric. If Mr. Syakalima cannot rise above petty name-calling and degrading behavior, he must be told clearly: his position is not guaranteed. Leadership is earned through service, respect, and accountability—not through arrogance and inflammatory language.

The Zambian people are demanding leaders who act with objectivity, maturity, and vision, not leaders who pit one group against another for political gain. Mr. Syakalima must recognize that failure to rise to this occasion is not just an insult to his office, but to the very people who entrusted him with it.

A Shameful Betrayal of Leadership

What kind of leader resorts to dehumanizing, hate-filled language to describe fellow citizens? Leadership is about bringing people together, not tearing them apart. It is about rising above personal grievances, fostering unity, and pursuing the common good.

Mr. Syakalima’s comments represent everything that leadership should reject. Referring to political opponents or entire communities in such vulgar, degrading terms sets a dangerous precedent of hostility and division that weakens national unity. It is childish, reckless, and utterly unworthy of the office he holds. True leadership demands the ability to transcend petty squabbles and to inspire hope. Mr. Syakalima’s words are a betrayal of the trust placed in him to lead and uplift the nation.

The Far-Reaching Damage

Mr. Syakalima’s rhetoric is not only harmful to the PF or Luapula Province—it undermines the entire nation. It deepens divisions, erodes public confidence in leadership, and distracts from the real issues facing Zambia, such as reforming the education system, creating jobs, and improving healthcare.

This kind of language is toxic. It legitimizes hate speech, perpetuates a culture of insults, and turns political discourse into an arena of personal attacks. It shifts the focus away from governance and toward sowing division, making public institutions battlegrounds instead of platforms for national progress.

The Youth Are Watching

Perhaps the most insidious impact of Mr. Syakalima’s words is their effect on Zambia’s youth. As Minister of Education, he is responsible for shaping the future of the nation. Yet, with his rhetoric, he is sending a dangerous message to young people: that intolerance, insults, and hatred are acceptable in political life.

This is a direct betrayal of the youth. At a time when Zambia’s young people are struggling with unemployment, limited opportunities, and an education system in dire need of reform, they deserve leaders who inspire, unify, and provide hope. Instead, Mr. Syakalima is normalizing hate speech and intolerance, tarnishing the moral fabric of society, and robbing the next generation of the example they deserve.

A Call to Accountability

Words have consequences. Mr. Syakalima’s reckless language must not go unchecked. The Zambian people deserve leaders who focus on solutions, who build consensus, and who treat every citizen with respect, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or region.

Hate speech, insults, and dehumanization have no place in Zambian politics or public office. Leaders must understand that their words shape the nation’s discourse, and they are entrusted with the sacred duty of upholding the values of unity, diversity, and respect.

A National Reflection

Now is the time for all Zambians to demand better from their leaders. We cannot allow our political culture to degenerate into a cesspool of insults and personal vendettas. Zambia’s democracy, with its rich diversity and commitment to debate, must remain a beacon of unity and progress. Mr. Syakalima, and others like him, must reflect on the damage they have caused and the example they set for the country.

We must reject divisive, hate-driven leadership and instead champion those who lead with respect, inclusivity, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of all citizens. The Zambian people will not be divided by the toxic rhetoric of a few. Our future demands leaders who unite, not divide—leaders who serve with integrity and inspire hope.

The Way Forward

Zambia is at a crossroads. Our challenges are vast, but so are the opportunities. To overcome them, we need leaders who rise above personal differences and work tirelessly for the common good. We need leaders who see Zambia as one nation, united in purpose and shared destiny.

Mr. Syakalima’s actions serve as a stark warning about the dangers of irresponsible leadership. Let this moment be the turning point. Let Zambians demand accountability, respect, and unity from their leaders. Let us reject hate speech, dehumanization, and division and instead champion a vision for a stronger, more united Zambia.

The power of words can build or destroy. It is time to demand leadership that builds. Zambia deserves nothing less.

Fare thee well 2024: Year of Mingalato, Lacunas and Superstitions

Fare thee well 2024: Year of Mingalato, Lacunas and Superstitions

By Paradious Sakala

It is unbelievable that you’re gone. Never to be seen again in this life. Surely, 2024 you are a year to remember. A year of your own kind. One can only say fare thee well 2024. You are remembered for many things here in Zambia. Most of them bad things, nearly in every sector of life. It was a year of political intimidation, the raise of fascist ideology, the silencing of the Catholic Church into political submission, and the dismembering of the Patriotic Front into oblivion. Truly, 2024, you were a year of political mingalato, lacunas and superstitions.

For a man in the streets like myself, 2024 was a year of true structural adjustment. Not just at national level. But individual level. Yes, adjusting the belt to its limits with almost all clothes in the wardrobe looking over size! Why? Because of Njala. No affordable maize meal in 2024. The cheaper ZNS Unga, was not easy to buy. Ever long queues wherever it was sold from and was suspected to be GMO. Njala was no longer a joke, but a life style. One meal per day is now a family norm and a policy since there was no hope of ever getting Unga at K50, as promised in 2021! Hair dressers and barber men were in shambles. The promised seven hour long malaiti after increase was a hoax. The trader could no longer see the fruits of earnings as Christmas fireworks couldn’t be heard this year in our compounds.

For opposition politicians, 2024, was dominated by mingalato (political manoeuvres) with an agenda set directly driven by our president, Dr Hakainde Hichilema without shame or regard for backlash with society. The president promised one thing in the morning and did the opposite in the afternoon. One song that never ceased from his mouth was the Rule of Law. He came out like the champion of it. Yet he meant ‘ikona man’. He gave executive orders to the judiciary publicly, and the courts bowed to pressure. We saw it in the incarceration of Chishimba Kambwili. Kambwili tried to escape to Zimbabwe, but the long arm of the state brought him back home. He is yet to have his matters resolved with the state, but lost those close to his life in the process.

As though that was not enough, the number of political foes hounded out of parliament was on the increase. On top of Joel Malanji, and Bowman Lusambo, as the earlier Mingalato victims years back, followed Nickson Chilangwa (Kawambwa), Ronald Chitotela (Pambashe) and Emmanuel Banda (Petauke) in 2024 to lose their parliamentary seats like a joke. For Chilangwa and Chitotela, it was a case of arson.  Evidence before court and several accounts of witnesses did not prove beyond reasonable doubt that the two MPs were responsible for burning the UPND campaign vehicle.  And even when the courts were willing to give a second thought to their case, the mingalato legal system could not wait for that. The seats are gone. Kawambwa has a new Member of Parliament. And soon Pambashe and Petauke will follow.

Surely, it is in 2024 that we also saw the incarceration of Godfrey Bwalya Mwamba fondly known as GBM and Lusambo. The courts can’t even look at their appeals. Sadly all these political leaders being jailed are from one political party. The Patriotic Front. And mingalato did not stop there. The former ruling party was parcelled in shapes and sizes to the liking of the mingalato guru, our Republican president. In one day it was for Miles Sampa. The other time it was for Chabinga. And we hear it is now likely to be for Dr. Chitalu Chilufya in matter of days.

The church did not escape the whip mingalato politics. The much revered and respected Catholic Bishops were for the first time seen divided in public. Actually, were more divided after meeting with President Hichilema at State House who is believed to have given them ten heads of cattle per diocese each. Even though they issued a pastoral, letter not all congregations read it. Lusaka Arch Bishop Dr. Alick Banda is a worse victim of verbal mingalato abuse. The ruling party take him to be a  Lucifer of our time. He even was not allowed at one time to host a memorial service for President Michael Chilufya Sata. Another Bishop silenced is former arch bishop of Lusaka Telesphore Mphundu whose voice is now on mingalato ice.

As a year of lacuna, 2024 saw the eligibility case of former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu brought before the constitutional court for the fifth time. It was a classical case. The ConCourt revisited its own past judgements. Brought new line of thinking that while President Lungu was eligible to stand in 2021, was not eligible for future elections. Sadly all judges that delivered this judgment had links to the ruling party in one way or the other. It sent shock waves across the political divide more especially among opposition political leaders. But out of this lacuna is now born Plan B, whatever it is, all this is associated with 2024.

From a superstitious grape vine, 2024 brought yet interesting episodes. It all started in Luanshya. Bees disrupted a gathering where the president was officiating. Few days or weeks later Jay Jay former Petauke Member of Parliament, disappeared in mysterious circumstances, leaving a note with an apology to Zambians. It is not clear whether bees were linked to him. But the state gave a narrative like he took his life. But Jay Jay resurfaced like a political ghost. Yet his woes were far from over. In chains he returned to prison without judgement. It is rumoured he invoked his ancestral spirits and disappeared from the hospital bed at Chipata Central Hospital. This action saw him lose his seat by way of a parliamentary vote that has never happened in Zambia. Soon there will be a by election.

But that was not all in 2024. The more recent one was most interesting. Yes, interesting because a chameleon became a legend of the year. It was spotted on a mission to assassinate the republican president by the Zambian police. A story that has gone global and some people are making fun of it. In the buses, the story earned philosophical narrative. Some people said lions, hyenas, leopards could have been better associated with killing someone unlike a chameleon that changes colour!

A take away from the 2024 mingalato political lessons could be that the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) does not hide its next political moves and does them in broad day light. Our key lessons should be that the UPND works like a cancerous cell of taking down its opponents bit by bit. Remember the hounding Harry Kalaba from Democratic Party looked remote. Yet it was a pilot phase. Kalaba remained without a party. What followed was Kaushi and Kwacha we all remained quiet. Then came for PF. They gave it to Miles Sampa and have given it to Chabinga. We are watching and laughing in churches and bars.

Kawambwa is gone and yet to get Petauke and Pambashe we still seem quiet. The police, the judiciary and parliament all seem to be political wings of the ruling party. And we all are watching. Not even a single NGO can voice out openly about the rule of law. People are in fear. Investigative Journalism is a high risk and few individuals are risking their lives to write about the social ills of mingalato dairies.

But truth be told this nation is a match stick away from confusion if not handled well. Time has come that the ruling class must call for an indaba with opposition and reduce the current political tensions in the country. Edgar Lungu is but just one individual with one vote who might be seen to have been dealt blow, but many people out there have shown they can stand their ground against this UPND regime. A case in point are the people of Western Province. They could not accept the republican president to be their guest of honour for last years Kuomboka ceremony. Equally our Bemba colleagues under Mwatakazembe, they stood their ground against the ruling party dictates. Unfortunately, the Ngonis bowed to pressure while the Chewas equally had to change the date of the ceremony to allow the head of state to grace the ceremony.

What needs to be understood is that whoever is going to come into power, the things happening to PF members today may just be awaiting the UPND themselves since precedence is being set, that will not set this nation into a development path. Hopefully 2025 will be different from 2024. Happy new year.

NETIZENS ROAST SIMON MWEWA LANE OVER ‘INSENSITIVE’ POST

NETIZENS ROAST SIMON MWEWA LANE OVER ‘INSENSITIVE’ POST

Netizens have camped on Simon Mwewa Lane’s Facebook page, condemning him over what they term an “insensitive” post he put up on his Facebook page earlier today.

Simon Mwewa Lane posted “YOU DUNDA HEAD ARTISTS, DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE, MUZAFA (meaning you will die)”, just a few hours after celebrated Zambian musician Wesley Chibambo, a.k.a Dandy Crazy, was involved in a road traffic accident, leaving him seriously injured, while four others died on the spot.

But this has sparked so much anger among Zambians, stating that even though his post might not be related to the accident, it was posted at the wrong time, with others saying there was a “disconnect between the brain and the tongue”.

Wana Kailiki posted in the comments, saying, “How can you really send such a message while your own Zambian musician is battling for his life? Are you really Zambian, iwe chimudala? This is inhuman, honestly. How is Dandy Crazy’s family going to feel, or his friends, after seeing your post? Mulekwatako nsoni no luse, you are old enough, and if you are claiming numbers on your page, not in that way”.

Zambian artist Jay Izzy questioned the post: “What happened to emotional intelligence?”

And music guru and icon, Sista D, commented, saying “This is disrespectful”.

Another upset netizen said, “Sometimes mwakwatako amano faza naiwe, we respect you a lot”.

And Gift Gondwe also commented, saying “Ichimufyashi ichabula amano, were you there when the accident happened?”

People have expressed frustration at his post, labeling it as inhumane and childish.

Moses Laishi said, “Apapeve wasobo bululu wanga, as in ukuluba lost. Accident kulibe ati wamwa fanta, tea or Hennessy chibuku, it can happen to anyone, anywhere, moreover, it is believed it’s the truck driver that lost control due to excessive speed”.

Samflonsa Chileshe Change rather called him a dunda head stating, “Who told you they were drinking..didn’t you read that the truck lost control..your statement sounds like it’s coming from a dunda head headquarters”

The artist’s condition is still critical and he remains admitted at the University Teaching Hospital.

AM NOT RECONTESTING THE PETAUKE SEAT- DORA SILIYA

AM NOT RECONTESTING THE PETAUKE SEAT- DORA SILIYA

Dr Dora Siliya writes…

Since Christmas day, there’s been a lot of speculation about my possible candidature for the Petauke Central by-election.

It has been very humbling to read all the wonderful messages sent directly to me from all over Zambia and beyond, encouraging me to contest again.

I am particularly humbled by the show of support from the UPND, a gesture I don’t take for granted.

Petauke Central has been very special to me after serving diligently since 2006. The record will show how many roads, bridges, schools, clinics, and hospitals were built. Under the water for all, hundreds of boreholes were sunk. Working with NGOs, women, and children’s safety was also brought to the fore. Our agenda was always to improve the lives of the Petauke residents through clean and adequate water supply, food security, increased access to education and health, family responsibility, and private sector expansion.

You will recall that since 2021, I have not been active in politics. Thus, on 30th August 2024, the day of my book launch, I informed the nation, through Hot FM radio that, if there were a by-election in Petauke Central, my name would not be on the ballot due to other priorities.

My name will not be on the ballot on 6th February 2025. I remain indebted to the people of Petauke Central with whom I worked well.

I have trust that as they go to the polls, Petauke voters, such as myself, will consider seriously the lack of representation the past months and elect a suitable candidate to benefit from the national cake.

I will continue to champion development issues for Petauke and the nation as a whole. As we enter the New Year, I will also continue to consult with the people of Eastern Province on how best we can engage all stakeholders on development issues now and into the future.

Happy New Year & Remain blessed!
