BREAD OF LIFE CHURCH INTERNATIONAL YOUTH PASTOR, JONATHAN IMAKANDO, IMPLICATED IN FAITH MUSONDA’S  FINANCIAL CRIMES

0

The financial scandal involving Faith Musonda, the former producer of Faith Gospel Hour, has deepened with fresh allegations implicating  Pastor Jonathan Bupe Imakando who is the Youth Pastor at Bread of Life Church International.

Pastor Jonathan is also the son of the General Overseer of Bread of Life Church International, Bishop Joe Imakando.

Ms Musonda who worked for Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) between 2013 and 2018, and worked for Zambia Development Agency from 2018 to 2020, came under scrutiny for suspicious bank transactions conducted on the eve of the 2021 General Elections.

Faith Musonda received over K300,000 few hours before the 2021 General Elections.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Court (EFCC) has established that Faith Musonda received K384, 000 two days before the 2021 General Elections questioning the legality of the Journalist’s source of wealth.

Further, the  EFCC has ordered Faith Musonda to forfeit to the State, her house in Kingsland City located in Chongwe District, a farm in Chisamba, some business premises, Money in her Bank accounts and farm machinery on reasons that they were tainted.

Concerns have been raised about the source of the funds used to acquire the Ibex Hill property and other properties as Musonda has allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the transactions.

Investigations further revealed that Ms Musonda transferred ownership of a property located in Ibex Hill to her cousin, Pastor Jonathan Imakando, whom the Judge referred to as Faith’s brother.

Judge Wanjelani said considering the large sums of money that were being deposited in the space of one day, and the fact that Musonda sought to have the Contract of Sale for the Ibex Hill Property put in her brother’s name Jonathan Bupe Imakando, raised reasonable suspicion as to the source of the money.

The court also heard that Faith Musonda’s accounts were credited with K384,000, two days before the 2021 general elections.

Faith’s properties forfeited to the State include; Plot No. LUSAK/LN_24982/3 in Kingsland City, Plot No. F/1504/A in Chisamba, Plot No. F/378a/11 in Ibex Hill, Bank of Zambia Government bonds issue no.01/2021/BA, Treasury bills issue no.11/2021TBs, Madison Finance Fixed term deposits unit no. 1140446 and assorted jewels.

Others are a Tafe tractor 7515 75HP-unregistered, plough disc BD mounted AF3, Harrow Disc BD GHO-R mounted 16, planter BD PLB-4 mounted row, sprayer Boom Jacto(M) condor M12, Trailer 5TN steel deck and a Toyota Allion registration no.72M.

Faith Musonda also owns Sela Property Investments Limited, Convenant Broadcasting Company, Life Television  Limited which were cited  as interested parties in this matter by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC took the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Court because it felt that it had been cheated in the bargain it entered with Musonda in 2021, when it granted her immunity from prosecution, after she gave up her luxurious house in New Kasama, some dollars and K65 million which she could not account for.

The ACC argued that Musonda did not make a full and frank disclosure of the illegal properties hence begged the EFCC to grab what she was left with and forfeit to the state.

In its ruling the EFCC forfeited Faith Musonda’s properties and government bonds to the state.

The Faith Musonda controversy raises serious questions about the accountability and integrity of some church leaders and their close associates.

The church is expected to be the custodian of transparency, accountability and integrity.

The Church is expected to uphold the highest standards of ethics to preserve the sanctity of its mission and the reputation of the faith it represents.

Nora Häuptle Appointed New Copper Queens Coach Amid High Expectations.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed Swiss tactician Nora Häuptle as the new head coach of the Copper Queens, the Zambia women’s national football team, on a two-year contract. This appointment follows the dismissal of Bruce Mwape, whose tenure ended under a cloud of controversy due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

Häuptle’s arrival is a significant move for FAZ, signaling a new chapter for the Copper Queens. The 40-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having previously managed Ghana’s Black Queens, where she left an indelible mark. Under her guidance, the Black Queens secured a spot in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and lifted the 2023 WAFU Zone B Women’s Cup. However, her decision to turn down a contract extension from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) shocked many in the football fraternity.

The Copper Queens, fresh off their historic FIFA Women’s World Cup debut in 2023, are now under pressure to build on their growing reputation in African football. FAZ’s decision to appoint Häuptle reflects a commitment to elevating the women’s game in Zambia.

Despite her impressive resume, Häuptle faces several challenges. The Copper Queens have enjoyed rapid growth, but consistency remains elusive. Additionally, the team is still navigating the fallout from Mwape’s controversial exit, which may affect player morale.

Football analyst Kamanga Banda noted that “the Copper Queens have shown they can compete on the big stage, but they need stability and tactical refinement. Häuptle’s ability to address these issues will define her tenure.”

Known for her tactical discipline and emphasis on youth development, Häuptle has already demonstrated her ability to transform teams. Before her stint with the Black Queens, she served as a technical advisor for Ghana’s U-20 women’s team at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica. Her reputation for developing young players could be instrumental in strengthening Zambia’s squad depth.

FAZ insiders have revealed that Häuptle will earn $7,000 approximately K192,948.08 per month,, making her one of the highest-paid women’s national team coaches in the region. This investment underscores FAZ’s commitment to strengthening the Copper Queens and ensuring their continued growth on the international stage.

Zambian fans, buoyed by the team’s recent successes, have high hopes for Häuptle. Many believe her appointment is a step in the right direction, but others remain cautious, citing the need for structural changes in women’s football to sustain success.

As she prepares to be unveiled next week, Häuptle carries the hopes of a nation eager to see the Copper Queens dominate African football and compete globally.

The next chapter for the Copper Queens begins now. Will Häuptle deliver on her promise and elevate Zambia to new heights? Only time will tell.

“My husband is very neat. He showers once a week” Musician Tommy Lee’s wife says

Brittany Furlan is sharing some insight to her life at home with husband, Tommy Lee.

While appearing on an episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine podcast on Wednesday, Dec. 18, Furlan shared a tidbit about the Mötley Crüe rocker’s grooming habits.

“My husband’s very neat, which people wouldn’t expect from someone who’s a musician,” Furlan shared. “They would expect him to be a f**king nightmare, like, dirty. He doesn’t shower a lot, but he’s very neat.”

Furlan explained that her 62-year-old husband justified his shower stance based on his upbringing “growing up” in Athens, Greece, where bathing on a daily basis was not a priority

“He said … that’s a thing in Europe. You don’t need to shower every day,” she said. “They would just do the white washcloth if they felt like they were getting a little funky. My husband showers, like, once a week.”

According to Furlan, when the musician doesn’t feel the need to take a proper shower, he’ll go for a “bird bath,” which typically involves using soap, a washcloth and a sink.

The former Vine star, meanwhile, said that her preference was to hop in the shower every day.

“This hair is so thick so I wash the hair, like, once a week,” she explained. “And then I shower every night.”

Furlan joked that she probably showers too much and that her “overly clean” nature is most likely “stripping” her “body of all the oils it probably needs.”

While Furlan and Lee, who have a nearly 24-year age gap, have a difference in opinion when it comes to their cleanliness routines, she says she’s not turned off at all by his shower habits.

“No because he’s so handsome. It’s really crazy,” she gushed. “He’s a really good-looking guy. He doesn’t really give me the ick.”

Lee joins the ranks of several other celebs who have opened up about their hygiene routines, including Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who have mentioned not bathing their children every day, and Jake Gyllenhaal, who has expressed that he doesn’t shower frequently.

Mnangagwa adds Rolls-Royce to Presidential motorcade, sparks debate

0

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly added a luxurious Rolls-Royce, dubbed “New Zim 1,” to his presidential motorcade, igniting a fierce public debate over the display of opulence amidst Zimbabwe’s economic hardships.

The British-made Rolls-Royce, renowned for its craftsmanship and association with wealth and power, joins an already controversial fleet that includes a high-end Mercedes Benz Brabus. Critics have long questioned such lavish expenditures, citing the stark contrast between the government’s spending and the daily struggles faced by ordinary citizens.

The addition of the Rolls-Royce has drawn sharp criticism on social media and in public discourse. Many Zimbabweans see the purchase as tone-deaf, given the country’s ongoing crises, including collapsing healthcare infrastructure, frequent power outages, and widespread poverty.

One social media user quipped, “At least the Rolls-Royce will get to feel the potholes, but it’s appalling to invest in such extravagance when hospitals lack basic equipment and medicines.”

The choice of a British vehicle also raised eyebrows, given Zimbabwe’s historical tensions with the UK over colonial legacies and land reforms.

Supporters of President Mnangagwa argue that the motorcade upgrades symbolize the country’s sovereignty and the dignity of its leadership. They contend that the Rolls-Royce enhances the president’s image on the global stage and reflects Zimbabwe’s aspirations for modernity.

“The presidency represents the nation,” a government official reportedly said. “The motorcade must showcase Zimbabwe’s stature and resilience to the world.”

This is not the first time the presidential fleet has come under scrutiny. The Mercedes Benz Brabus, introduced earlier, faced similar backlash for its extravagant cost and perceived detachment from the hardships faced by ordinary Zimbabweans.

The Brabus, equipped with advanced security features and high-speed capabilities, was defended as a necessary measure for the president’s safety. However, critics viewed it as a symbol of excess at a time when public services were in dire need of funding.

The controversy over the Rolls-Royce underscores a growing disconnect between Zimbabwe’s leadership and its citizens. Public trust in the government has eroded due to perceived mismanagement of resources and a lack of investment in critical areas such as healthcare and energy.

As “New Zim 1” takes to Zimbabwe’s roads, its presence may serve as a reminder of the stark inequalities in the country, fueling debates about governance priorities and accountability. Whether seen as a necessary upgrade or an emblem of extravagance, the Rolls-Royce has become a focal point for broader discussions about leadership and the state of the nation.

Woman who donated a kidney and her remaining kidney failed speaks after pig kidney transplant

0

Last month, Towana Looney became the fifth American to get a gene-edited pig organ. Her operation marks the third time a kidney from a gene-edited pig has been transplanted into a living human. Previous transplants have been for people who were brain dead or at high danger of death within months.

Looney’s steady recovery has sparked hope that one day pig kidneys could help alleviate the ongoing organ shortage.

She told the Associated Press, “It’s like a new beginning. The energy I had was amazing. To have a working kidney — and to feel it — is unbelievable.”

Looney’s need for a kidney stems from a long medical history. She gave a kidney to her mother in 1999, but she suffered damage to her remaining kidney due to high blood pressure during pregnancy. Although kidney failure is unusual in living donors, individuals who do have it are given priority on the transplant waiting list, according to experts.

The Alabama woman was unable to find a match because she had grown antibodies that were abnormally able to attack another human kidney. Tests revealed that she would reject any kidney donated by donors.

She later learned about pig kidney studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and approached Dr. Jayme Locke, who would be her original surgeon after being a UAB transplant specialist at the time.

Locke filed an FDA application in April 2023, requesting an emergency experiment under guidelines that apply to persons like Looney who had no other options. The FDA did not agree immediately.

Rather, two sicker patients at NYU and Massachusetts General Hospital received the first kidney transplants from gene-edited pigs last spring. They both suffered from severe heart conditions.

The Boston patient made enough progress to stay at home for about a month before passing away from an unexpected cardiac arrest that was thought to be unrelated to the pig kidney. NYU’s patient died after suffering heart issues that destroyed her pig kidney and forced its removal.

Looney was beginning to feel worse on dialysis but, according to Locke, hadn’t developed heart disease or other health issues. She also wasn’t deterred by the negative results of the two sicker patients.

The 53-year-old reasoned that even if her new organ failed, surgeons could still learn from it. She told AP, “You don’t know if it’s going to work or not until you try.”

In the end, the FDA approved her transplant at NYU, where Locke worked with NYU Langone Health’s Dr. Robert Montgomery, who oversaw the extremely experimental process for the transplant on November 25.

Blacksburg, Virginia-based Revivicor gave Looney a new kidney from a pig that had 10 gene modifications. The kidney turned a healthy pink and started to produce urine just a few minutes after Montgomery stitched it into place.

On December 6, Looney was released from the hospital, where she resumed daily check-ups prior to her medication readmission. She wore monitors to track her heart rate, blood pressure, and other physiological processes. Doctors examine her bloodwork and other tests, comparing them to previous animal and human studies in the aim of detecting irregularities early on.

Montgomery observed, “A lot of what we’re seeing, we’re seeing for the first time.”

When questioned about the next steps, Montgomery said he’s confident there will be more patients like Looney through the FDA’s extended access or compassionate use program, and clinical trials would begin “probably by this time next year, or even sooner.”

“Our challenge is to learn how to support these kidneys for longer periods of time so that they become a reasonable alternative for this scarce, highly rationed supply of human organs,” Montgomery added.

Although Looney was released from the hospital just eleven days after the operation to continue her recuperation in a nearby apartment, she was readmitted this week for a brief stay while her medication was adjusted.

Doctors predict she will return to Alabama in three months. If the pig kidney failed, she could start dialysis again.

In a press conference on Tuesday, she said that she feels “blessed” to have received “a second chance at life.”

“I want to give courage to those on dialysis,” she remarked. “It’s not easy, and it’s not the only option. There’s hope,” she said, according to Good Morning America.

Lil Baby Explains Why He Will Never Get Legally Married

Lil Baby has been doing press at an unprecedented level in promotion of his new album WHAM. The rapper typically likes to keep to himself, but he has been incredibly forthright about his personal life and his stances on various topics. One of the most intriguing topics came about during an appearance on the Lil Yachty podcast A Safe Place. Lil Baby was asked whether he would consider getting married at some point in the future. He made it clear that legally speaking, he has no interest in tying the knot.

Lil Baby has nothing against romance, but he doesn’t feel the need to go through the legal steps needed to become man and wife. That’s what he told Lil Yachty, at least. “Prenups don’t mean nothing,” the ATL rapper asserted. “It’s no thing that you can marry a woman and then she don’t get nothing.” Baby added that he would prefer to establish a marriage on his own terms. He wants to go about his love life without the financial risks that come with paperwork. “It’s ways for her to get something, regardless once y’all get married,” Lil Baby noted. “I give a girl $10 million ring, $10 million wedding, no paperwork.”

Lil Baby believes that a personal vow should be more than enough to bind two people, romantically. “That’s my offer,” the rapper asserted. “I vow til death do us part, we married.” Lil Yachty tried to pose different situations in which being legally married would benefit the rapper. Lil Baby wasn’t going for it, though. Even if he was in an accident, or sent to prison, the rapper said he “wouldn’t give a damn” about the benefits. He also wanted to account for the possibility of feelings changing with a partner as he gets older. “That could change when I get older,” the rapper noted. “I don’t really see that.”

Lil Baby also discussed his stance on “snitches” during his Safe Place discussion. He told Lil Yachty that he does not make music with rappers he considers to be snitches. His reasoning? He doesn’t feel like his lyrics would come across as convincing in collaboration with someone who doesn’t share his values. “It boils down to what we rapping about,” he explained. “We can’t rap about that if you did that. If I was making Christmas music, then I don’t give a damn what you did.”

The Dark Legacy of the Malawi Congress Party: A History of Tragedy and Deceit

By Twink Jones Gadama

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has long been a significant player in the political landscape of Malawi, but its legacy is marred by a series of tragic events that have raised serious questions about its integrity and governance. The recent plane crash that claimed the lives of Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others has reignited discussions about the party’s history of accidents and the shadowy circumstances surrounding them. This analysis seeks to explore the troubling legacy of the MCP, highlighting the need for Malawians to reconsider their support for a party that has been synonymous with tragedy, deceit, and a lack of accountability.

The MCP’s history is steeped in controversy, dating back to its founding in the early 1960s. Initially celebrated for its role in the fight for independence from British colonial rule, the party quickly became associated with authoritarianism under the leadership of Hastings Kamuzu Banda. Banda’s regime was marked by human rights abuses, political repression, and a cult of personality that stifled dissent and silenced opposition. The legacy of this oppressive rule continues to haunt the party, as many Malawians remember the dark days of Banda’s dictatorship, which left deep scars on the nation’s psyche.

In recent years, the MCP has attempted to rebrand itself as a progressive force for change, but its actions have often contradicted this narrative. The party’s involvement in staged accidents, such as the infamous incident where four ministers and an MP were reported to have been involved in a car crash while allegedly fleeing from a political scandal, raises serious ethical questions. The truth behind that incident revealed a far more sinister reality: the ministers were brutally murdered, a fact that the MCP has never fully addressed. This pattern of deception and manipulation has eroded public trust in the party and its leadership.

The recent plane crash that killed Vice President Chilima and several others is another tragic chapter in the MCP’s history. While the official reports surrounding the crash have been released, they have left many questions unanswered. The circumstances leading up to the crash, the lack of transparency in the investigation, and the party’s response have all contributed to a growing sense of unease among the populace. The MCP’s failure to provide clear and credible explanations has only fueled speculation and conspiracy theories, further damaging its reputation.

The repeated association of the MCP with accidents and tragedies raises concerns about the party’s governance and accountability. In a democratic society, political parties are expected to uphold the rule of law, promote transparency, and prioritize the welfare of their citizens. However, the MCP’s history suggests a troubling disregard for these principles. The party’s willingness to engage in deception and manipulation to maintain power reflects a broader culture of impunity that undermines the democratic process.

Moreover, the MCP’s legacy is not just about individual incidents; it is also about the broader impact of its governance on the nation. Under the party’s leadership, Malawi has faced numerous challenges, including economic mismanagement, corruption, and a lack of basic services. The party’s inability to address these pressing issues has left many Malawians disillusioned and frustrated. The promise of progress and development has often been overshadowed by a history of broken promises and failed policies.

As the nation approaches the next election cycle, it is crucial for Malawians to critically assess the legacy of the MCP and its suitability for leadership. The party’s history of accidents, tragedies, and questionable governance should serve as a warning sign for voters. A political party that has consistently demonstrated a lack of accountability and transparency cannot be trusted to lead the nation toward a brighter future.

The need for change in Malawi is more pressing than ever. The country faces significant challenges, including poverty, unemployment, and inadequate healthcare. To address these issues effectively, Malawi requires a leadership that prioritizes the needs of its citizens, promotes good governance, and fosters a culture of accountability. The MCP’s track record suggests that it is ill-equipped to meet these challenges.

In contrast, alternative political parties and leaders have emerged, offering fresh perspectives and a commitment to genuine reform. These new voices represent an opportunity for Malawians to break free from the cycle of tragedy and deceit that has characterized the MCP’s legacy. By supporting leaders who prioritize transparency, accountability, and the welfare of the people, Malawians can work toward a brighter future for their nation.

In conclusion, the Malawi Congress Party’s legacy is one of tragedy, deceit, and a troubling disregard for the principles of democracy. The repeated association of the party with accidents and questionable circumstances raises serious concerns about its governance and accountability. As the nation prepares for the next election, it is imperative for Malawians to critically evaluate the MCP’s history and consider the implications of supporting a party that has consistently failed to prioritize the needs of its citizens. The time for change is now, and the future of Malawi depends on the choices made by its people. It is time to reject the dark legacy of the MCP and embrace a new path toward progress and accountability.-maravipost

‘He’s not a dad’ – Trinity Rodman on her relationship with her estranged father Dennis Rodman

0

Olympic gold medal-winning soccer player Trinity Rodman recently opened up about her relationship with her father Dennis Rodman, who is a retired NBA star and multiple championship winner.

Trinity, who plays for the Washington Spirit, touched on their relationship during a sit-down with Alex Cooper on her Call Her Daddy podcast, CNN reported. “He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else,” the 22-year-old said. “Hearing his voice is painful.”

Though Rodman reportedly amassed over $20 million during his career in the NBA, Trinity said she lived in a car at a certain period of her life. “We had (a Ford) Expedition and we kind of lived in that for a little bit,” she revealed.

“We tried to live with him, but he’s having parties 24/7, he is bringing random btches in. He loves the spotlight. He loves the cameras. Before the divorce (from Trinity’s mother Michelle Moyer in 2012) happened, my dad was actually helping money wise,” she added. “He would actually give money to my mom and let us kind of live life a little bit, but then when the divorce happened, it was just like, ‘F*k you guys.’”

“I think he’s an extremely selfish human being,” she continued. “I think everything has always been about him.”

Trinity was the Number 2 overall pick in the 2021 NWSL draft by the Spirit, which then won the league championship. Trinity was drafted at the age of 18, making her the youngest player to be drafted into the National Women’s Soccer League during that period. She scored seven goals and had seven assists, and was named the league’s Rookie of the Year.

In 2022, the Washington Spirit signed her to a four-year deal. The extension was worth more than $1.1 million, making it the richest contract in the history of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), according to The Washington Post.

Trinity also won gold with the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) at the Paris 2024 Olympics, scoring three goals and recording one assist. Rodman was present to watch her daughter and the Washington Spirit play against the North Carolina Courage in their quarterfinal match in 2021. But he had not spoken with Trinity for many months, CNN reported.

“When he showed up at my game, I was, like, so mad,” Trinity recalled. “I started crying on the field. So I’m trying to play the soccer game and I’m crying.”

And though the Washington Spirit won the game, Trinity said her father’s presence negatively affected her. “I was so mad. I was like ‘You took this happy moment from me. You fked with my head again,’” she said. “I’m walking over there (towards Dennis) so mad, like ‘Fk you.’ I walk over there, he grabs my head and I just start bawling into his arms as if it’s a daddy-daughter (moment).”

Rodman had a photo moment when he embraced her after the match, and Trinity later took to Instagram to share details about their relationship, explaining that she hoped things may get better.

“After that, radio silence. I didn’t see him for, like… until this year,” Trinity told Cooper. “Stupid me for thinking that was gonna be some type of new spark. That was me every single time. He would come around, and I’d be like ‘Okay, here it is again. We’re gonna start something. He’s gonna be around.’ Boom, months and months and months (without speaking to him). This time, it was years. I think after that was when I lost hope in ever getting him back.”

Rodman was in his late 30s when he met his biological father, CNN reported. In a 2019 interview with ESPN, the seven-time NBA rebounding champion opened up about his hopes of being there for his children.

“For some reason, it’s very hard for me to break out of that cycle,” he admitted. “I never had anyone to ever do that for me.”

Cardi B Promises BIA $1M If She Can Prove She Cheated On Offset

Cardi B has certainly dealt with no shortage of drama in recent months. The mother of three is currently going through a divorce from her longtime partner Offset, and this week, they took some of their differences to social media. Of course, this has resulted in fans weighing in on the feud, and spreading false narratives about their split. One of them is that Cardi allegedly cheated on Offset, which she denies.

Earlier this week, she even hopped on X to check one user, who brought up her past beef with BIA. For those who don’t recall, BIA dropped a diss track about Cardi B in June, after Cardi threatened to sue her for spreading rumors that she cheated on the former Migos member. In it, she doubles down on the cheating allegations, goes after Cardi’s appearances, mentions her kids by name, and more. The cover art features a screenshot of Offset alleging that Cardi slept with someone else behind his back.

The user shared this cover art, writing “bia spilled all that girls tea.” Cardi didn’t waste any time before setting the record straight. She even went the extra mile, claiming she’d pay BIA a pretty penny if she was able to find evidence to back up her cheating allegations. “That b#### ain’t spill,” she wrote. “I’ll pay her a million dollars in cash to provide receipts of me talking to any n#### before this situation !!!” This is far from the first time Cardi has lashed out online as of late. The other day, she also told her ex that she hoped he’d die during a heated Twitter Spaces rant.

“Happy as fk that I gave you attention for one day!” she said at the time. “Now you’re trying to spin the narrative like I want to be with you, knowing that that’s not it. I gave you some time out of spite because another na pissed me the fk off. […] Bh, I will violate right now.”

Luigi Mangione held in same jail as Diddy

0

The accused k!ller of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO is being held in a Brooklyn jail, where Sean “Diddy” Combs is being jailed.

Luigi Mangione, 26, is locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center. He appeared in federal court in Manhattan Thursday after waiving extradition in Pennsylvania.

He’s accused of traveling from Georgia to allegedly stalk and kill Brian Thompson and said he targeted the health care industry because “it checked every box” one of a number of entries in a notebook in which the suspect discussed the plot in the weeks before the brazen crime, according to a federal criminal complaint.

Mangione was hit with four federal charges Thursday, including stalking, a firearms offense involving a silencer, and murder through use of a firearm, a charge that makes him eligible for the death penalty.

The federal complaint contains previously unreleased excerpts from the notebook that police said they seized from Mangione. Authorities said the writings “express hostility towards the health insurance industry and wealthy executives in particular.”

According to the complaint, an entry marked Aug. 15, 2024, said “the details are finally coming together,” and, “I’m glad — in a way — that I’ve procrastinated, bc (because) it alowed me to learn more about (acronym for Company-1).”

The entry also said that “the target is insurance” because “it checks every box,” the complaint said. In an entry marked Oct. 22, 2024, the writings said, “1.5 months. This investor conference is a true windfall … and — most importantly — the message becomes self evident.”

Later on in the entry, the pages describe an intent to “wack” the CEO of one of the insurance companies at its investor conference, the complaint said.

Mangione made his initial appearance in Manhattan federal court Thursday afternoon, hours after the unsealing of the criminal complaint.

He stepped into a packed federal courtroom for an appearance before Magistrate Judge Katharine Parker.

He answered “yes” to several questions from Judge Parker, but mainly kept his head down reading along as she summarized the charges in the complaint. He did not enter a plea.

Defense attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo said Mangione would not initially contest pretrial detention. He was taken into custody.

“We’re going to respectfully decline to make any comment at this time, but Mr. Mangione appreciates everyone’s support. Thank you so much,” Agnifilio said.

The next court date is January 18, 2025 unless an indictment is secured beforehand.

The prosecutor noted the Manhattan DA’s office has a parallel case.

“That case is proceeding and our office is in consultation with them,” Gentile said.

Agnifilo said Mangione was prepared to appear in state court and complained the federal charges were sprung on her client.

“This is a highly unusual situation we find ourselves in,” Agnifilo said. “I have never seen anything like that.”

She said the theories of the two cases appear to be in conflict, noting the state case accused Mangione of terrorizing a group of people while the federal case accused him of stalking an individual.

Mangione agreed to return to New York after a morning court appearance in Pennsylvania, where he was arrested last week after five days on the run.

“This is in his best interest, and we’re moving forward,” Mangione’s Pennsylvania defense attorney Thomas Dickey said.

The 26-year-old Ivy League graduate is accused of ambushing and shooting Brian Thompson on Dec. 4 outside a Manhattan hotel where the head of the United States’ largest medical insurance company was walking to an investor conference.

Authorities have said Mangione was carrying the gun used to kill Thompson, a passport, fake IDs and about $10,000 when he was arrested while eating breakfast on Dec. 9 at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

When Mangione was apprehended, he had a 9 mm handgun with a 3D-printed receiver, a homemade silencer, two ammunition magazines and live cartridges, prosecutors said.

Africa in 2024: Battling Climate Extremes and Seeking Global Action

0

The Africanews editorial team takes a look back at the highlights of 2024. Africa has faced a year of extreme weather events. Droughts have worsened, followed by torrential rains and flooding.

Despite contributing the least to global greenhouse gas emissions, the African continent remains highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. At COP29, developed countries, the world’s largest emitters of greenhouse gases, made a new commitment by signing an agreement to ramp up climate action.

However, these countries’ promises fall short of the needs outlined by the African nations. The situation has been further exacerbated by El Niño, which has intensified the effects of climate change. For instance, tropical cyclones have become more frequent and severe.

In January, Hurricane Belal struck Mauritius, leaving thousands without power. Later in March, Cyclone Gamane ravaged Madagascar, affecting over 5,000 homes and forcing 20,737 people to flee. In May, Hurricane Hidaya devastated coastal regions of Kenya and Tanzania, underscoring the vulnerability of East Africa to these increasingly violent storms. Cyclones are often preceded by heavy rains, leading to flooding and landslides. In 2024, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) saw devastating downpours.

In DRC, where conflict is already rampant in the east, torrents of rain destroyed roads and homes. Meanwhile, in the Sahel, the rainy season from July to September was marked by heavy flooding, especially in Sudan, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. 2024 has also been a significant year in terms of global temperature trends. According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, this year is the first to exceed the 1.5°C warming threshold.

Their latest report, published on December 9, reveals an average temperature anomaly of +0.14°C compared to the same period in 2023. In Zambia, the rainy season—typically running from October to March—ended prematurely in January, a direct result of extreme heat. This prolonged drought is impacting not only food security but also energy production across Southern Africa. In South Sudan, temperatures reached a sweltering 45°C, prompting the government to close schools for the first time due to the heat wave.

These extreme weather changes are having a dire impact on agriculture, on which 70% of Southern Africa’s population depend for their livelihoods. The region has faced severe droughts, pushing millions into hunger. Last October, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe declared their hunger crises as national disasters.

According to the World Food Programme (WFP), about 21 million children in Southern Africa are currently malnourished due to failed crops. On a larger scale, African countries lose an estimated 2 to 5% of their GDP annually due to extreme weather events.

At COP29 last November, developed nations agreed to a new climate finance target: $300 billion annually by 2035. However, this target is far below the $1.3 trillion that developing nations, including those in Africa, estimate is needed for climate change adaptation.- Africanews

Diddy Faces Two More Sexual Assault Lawsuits

0

Diddy‘s legal troubles continue, as he now faces two more lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault — one which places the alleged attack on the day of a tragic and fatal incident at a 1991 charity basketball game, and another 15 years later at a party thrown by the mogul.

The suits were both filed Friday (December 20) in federal court in New York. The one tied to the 1991 event was by a Jane Doe, who is represented by Tony Buzbee — the attorney who has made headlines recently for adding JAY-Z to a different suit against Diddy.

In the new complaint, the anonymous woman says she was in New York City in December, 1991 to attend a charity basketball game at the City College of New York. That event, which had both Diddy and Heavy D as headliners, ended in an infamous stampede that killed nine people.

Before that tragedy, the woman claims, Diddy took her to a locker room and said he would take her to see the rapper who invited her to the event (who is unnamed in the complaint, but referred to as “Myers” throughout, which was Heavy D’s last name).

At one point, the suit continues, Diddy “returned with a plastic cup full of what he purported to be Coca-Cola,” which made the woman feel “woozy” when she drank it.

“[She] attempted to leave to find her rapper friend on her own, but Combs blocked her exit,” the suit reads. “He told her she needed to stay and that is when she noticed he was touching himself in a suggestive manner. He began to fondle Plaintiff and overpowered her when she struggled. Combs removed her underwear and began molesting her before climbing on top of her and penetrating her.”

After the alleged assault, the woman claims Diddy told her not to inform anyone about it because “people can come up missing.”

Friday’s second suit was filed by an Oklahoma woman named LaTroya Grayson. She says that back in 2006, she won an all-expenses paid vacation for two to New York City to attend a “Diddy White Party” in a radio station contest. After several date and party theme changes, she claims she made the trip in October of that year.

At the party, she says in the suit that she had “less than two premade drinks, provided by the waitresses,” and doesn’t remember anything else until waking up in a hospital.

“[H]er shirt was ripped, her underwear was missing, she was not wearing any shoes and the money she had traveled with was stolen,” the complaint reads.

Upon returning home, she says she received a call from an anonymous woman who told her not to attempt to do anything about her assault because Diddy “was a ‘celebrity’ and that Plaintiff would ‘just be wasting her time.’”

HipHopDX reached out to Diddy’s representatives for comment. They responded with a statement: “Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted anyone or engaged in sex trafficking. Ms. Grayson admits she has no memory of the events alleged in her complaint, does not know who was supposedly involved, and has never spoken to Mr. Combs. Her allegations against him are pure fiction.

“As we’ve said before, Mr. Combs cannot respond to every baseless lawsuit and lawyer-driven money grab. He has faith in the judicial process, in which fact will be separated from opportunistic fabrications like these.”

Forgotten battalion of black women celebrated in film

The Six Triple Eight is released on Netflix on Friday, 20 December
They were given a task others had failed – and they were given it because they were not expected to succeed.

The intriguing story of 855 black women who came to Birmingham from America to solve a two-year postal backlog during World War Two – handling 17 million letters that would have otherwise gone unseen – has been made into a film.

“Ladies, we have been ordered to provide hope and communication and care packages to our exhausted soldiers on the front line, and to let their families back home know if they are safe,” says Major Charity Adams as she addresses her female soldiers in The Six Triple Eight.

“Or … or if they have died in battle.”

Major Adams, who led the 6888th Central Postal Directory Batallion, is played by actress Kerry Washington.

“Everybody thought it was impossible, what they were up against,” she told the BBC.

“And I think that’s why the film resonates with people.

“Not just, you know, these particular black women and this time and place, but anybody who’d ever felt under estimated, or doubted, or pushed aside or marginalised.”

Critically-acclaimed director and writer Tyler Perry has created the film for Netflix, bringing the women’s achievements to a global audience.

“They were tasked with delivering 17 million pieces of mail that had been just thrown into hangers, that had been mouldy and a lot of the names on the letters were illegible,” he said.

Viewers are left in no doubt about the challenge the women faced and the fact that others had failed the same mission.

Major Adams declares in the film: “They have only given us a six-month ticking clock and I thought that was a long time until I realised the magnitude of this situation.

“When there is no mail there is low morale.”

They were the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of colour to be stationed in Europe during World War Two.

The battalion was mostly black women but there were also women of Caribbean and Mexican descent.

“There’s that great line that Tyler has written for Charity Adams in the film where she says, ‘we are fighting a war on every front,'” Washington said.

“Because it just felt like, yes they were dealing with World War Two but they were also dealing with racism and misogyny.

“And even when they came back home they were dealing with people being prejudiced against them because they went into the army and people couldn’t believe that they had accomplished this incredible goal, so there were rumours that they had only been sent there to be concubines for the black male soldiers.

“So that’s why a lot of the women never talked about their legacy, didn’t share this heroic moment in history with anybody.”

In 1945, the late Elizabeth Barker Johnson was 25 when she was based in the 6888’s temporary barracks at King Edwards School in Edgbaston.

She spoke to the BBC when she was 98, in 2018.

“Separating the mail I picked up a package,” she said.

“Everything fell out on the floor and I picked up that watch, I looked at the back of it, it had a man’s name, his number and everything on it and it just made me feel so good because I could forward it to him.”

Families of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion visited King Edwards School last year, retracing their steps.

One of their descendants, Janice Martin, said at the time: “All I knew is she was in the military.

“She served, she said we had a job to do and we came home and nobody ever said anything more after that until these last few years.”

The women cleared the backlog in three months – half the time they’d been given.

Charity Adams was the first black woman to command an overseas battalion in the US Army.

Washington said she was full of admiration for the character she plays.

“People talk about loving her, respecting her because even though she was strict and stern and tough they knew that she wanted the best for them and that she loved them,” she said.

“And I think that’s such a unique leadership quality, the kind of leader who brings out the best in you because they believe in the best in you.”

The 6888 film is released on Netflix on Friday, December 20.

Guardiola Blames Injury For Poor Form, Backs Players To Bounce Back

0

Under-fire Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has blamed the team’s injury crisis for their poor run of form following another defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

The defending champions suffered a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park to record a second consecutive defeat in the Premier League which extended their disastrous run.

The Cityzens have now won just once in 12 games in all competitions, losing nine times in the miserable run to further pile more pressure on Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard has revealed the solution to the team’s poor form, blaming injuries to key players for their inability to bring an end to the slump.

He said: “It can come, it can not come. It depends on us. The solution is to bring the players back. We have just one central defender fit, which is difficult. We are going to try the next game – another opportunity and we don’t think much further than that.”

“We make a really good first half, second half we dropped. We changed our pressing for the reason John [Stones] could not continue. Congratulations Aston Villa and keep going.”

Manchester City have been without Rodri, Oscar Bobb, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, and John Stones also joined the growing list of injured players.

Guardiola, however, praised his players for their first-half performance against Aston Villa, and he has backed them to recover their confidence ahead of the busy festive period.

He said: “Today we made a really good game, step by step, we have nice personalities in the team and sooner or later we are going to find it [their form].

“I have to do it [change his approach], back my players, that is what will be different.

“We have good moments, we had chances, more chances than in the [Manchester] United game, but in the second half we dropped and our pressing was not good enough.

“We struggled a little bit and we could not drop them well.

“We found a goal in the end, but too late. We struggle to score and we concede goals.”

Erling Haaland admitted that his performances in recent games have not been good enough, and he is backing Pep Guardiola to find a solution to the winless run.

He said: “Of course we are disappointed, It’s not good enough, it’s not good enough from me.”

Haaland added: “We have to continue. First I’m looking at myself, I haven’t been doing things good enough, I haven’t been scoring my chances. I have to do better, I haven’t been good enough.

“He (Guardiola) won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget that.

“He will find the solutions. He has been doing that every single year. We still believe in him, we have to work harder than ever right now.”

Guardiola has given his players two days off to clear their heads ahead of their Premier League clash against Everton on Thursday.

Manchester City have now dropped 24 points before the halfway point of the season after only dropping 23 points in the whole of last season.

Security and economic woes plague West Africa, as key elections loom

0

West Africa and the Sahel continue to grapple with a confluence of political, security and humanitarian crises as countries prepares for pivotal elections in 2025, the UN special envoy for the vast region told ambassadors in the Security Council on Friday.

Leonardo Santos Simão, highlighted upcoming presidential elections in Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau, and the adoption of constitutional reforms amid a strained political environment in Gambia.

He also commended recent successful elections in Ghana and Senegal, noting the signing of a “Peace Pact” by all presidential candidates in Ghana and the smooth transfer of power following orderly concessions by political rivals.

In Senegal, electoral observer missions highlighted the transparency of the process and the trust placed by political parties in national institutions, he added.

These two elections demonstrate progress in democracy in the region,” Mr. Simão said.

Challenges remain

However, several countries in the region – including Ghana and Senegal – continue to face significant economic challenges.

“They will require support to manage rising debt and implement projects that protect livelihoods, otherwise their democratic gains may fail to satisfy the expectations of the populations, in particular among women and the youth,” Mr. Simão warned.

He also urged efforts to prioritise preventive diplomacy and dialogue in the region, while emphasising he remains focused on fostering mutual understanding and encouraging common ground with all stakeholders.

“While the positive outcomes of these engagements are gradual, there are promising signs of increased collaboration on people-centred, pragmatic solutions to the region’s security, governance, humanitarian and socio-economic challenges,” he added.

Escalating security threats

Insecurity remains the most urgent concern, with terrorist groups becoming increasingly aggressive and utilising sophisticated weaponry, including drones. Recent attacks in the Central Sahel have claimed many lives, affecting civilians and security personnel alike.

Beyond the Sahel, violent extremism and organized crime have begun to spill into Gulf of Guinea nations, such as Benin and Togo, threatening more regional destabilisation.

The cessation of operations by the G5-Sahel Joint Force and the restructuring of the Accra Initiative, highlight the urgent need to reinvigorate regional security mechanisms, Mr. Simão said.

He called for increased support for the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), the only functioning security platform in the Lake Chad Basin, which is struggling to counter increasingly well-equipped terrorist groups.

Humanitarian crisis deepens

The humanitarian situation in the region also remains challenging.

Chad, hosting two million refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) – including those fleeing the violence in Sudan – is grappling with the dual challenges of displacement and severe flooding.

In Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Nigeria, escalating violence has displaced millions, while underfunded humanitarian appeals leave many vulnerable.

“I urge partners to contribute to the humanitarian appeal, which remains less than 50 percent funded,” Mr. Simão said.

Withdrawal from ECOWAS

He also briefed Council members of the Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) last week, where leaders took note of the decision by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to withdraw from the bloc.

While formal withdrawal proceedings are expected to commence in late January 2025, ECOWAS leaders also extended a six-month window for dialogue, in case rapprochement is possible. United Nations Africa

12 Reasons Why ECL, PF and Tonse Alliance Must Be Congratulated On Kawambwa: Plan B Will Defeat HH for 2026 With Massive Shame- Chris ZUMANI

12 Reasons Why ECL, PF and Tonse Alliance Must Be Congratulated On Kawambwa: Plan B Will Defeat HH for 2026 With Massive Shame

……The top three best performers in KAWAMBWA parliamentary bye elections are as follows: (1) UPND won with 5,011 votes out of 11,360 total votes representing 44% performance score; (2) NCP (Tonse Alliance) came second by getting 3,999 votes out of 11,360 total votes representing 35% performance score; and (3) SP scored third by getting 1,501 votes out of 11,360 total votes representing 13% performance score…..

By Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba

1. From these final results announced last night despite massive electoral malpractices by UPND, it is clear that the main winner in Kawambwa is ECL and Tonse Alliance despite the ruling party candidate being declared the winner. For Tonse Alliance which was founded on 7th November, 2024, less than two months ago to score 35% against the ruling UPND who scored 44% must be understood by all as a big technical win especially under such unfriendly, unsafe, unholy and unpalatable circumstances. And if this momentum is sustained, in 2026, Tonse Alliance under the signature of ECL’s Plan B are destined for a clear political victory against HH and his UPND regardless of the political dynamics ahead.

2. In Kawambwa, we have seen that Tonse Alliance, a poorly funded new coalition led by PF’s ECL which was formed 43 days ago courageously put up a purposeful fight, showed rare resilience and ran with calculated determination to the point of dwarfing the heavily funded, violent, bloody and rigging ruling UPND camp led by Presidential envoy, Nevers Mumba, 11 Cabinet Ministers, 8 District Commissioners, 85 hired violent cadres, 250 state police officers and a high delegation partisan ECZ team in one small rural constituency. By scooping 3,999 votes versus UPND with 5,011 votes, Tonse Alliance has introduced itself and PF big on the ballot and must be proud of itself going into 2026. This was a brilliant performance for a two months old political baby!

3. During presidential and general elections in 2026, such a complex, well coordinated as well as heavily funded ruling party team will not exist anywhere as it will be each one for himself in their respective areas. Consequently, HH and UPND will fall and collapse in most places especially in Lusaka, Copperbelt, Eastern, Northern, Muchinga, Luapula and the bigger side of Central province. This must give ECL and Tonse Alliance more political hope for 2026 because Kawambwa has shown Zambians that this is the coalition set to be the new political hope and guaranteed alternative government for 2026.

4. Officially, Tonse Alliance is now the official flag bearer with original spirits and sharp political spears of South Africa’s uMkhonto we Sizwe Party (MK) in Zambia following its historic participation and performance in Kawambwa. Although SA’s Former President, Jacob Zuma formed his party three months before the May 2024 national elections, MK emerged as the biggest victor of South Africa’s general elections this year by winning 15% at the expense of the country’s governing African National Congress (ANC) who got 41% and were forced to form a controversial coalition government for survival for the first time.

5. Through Tonse alliance and National Congress Party (NCP), PF has rebranded itself into a political force with new meaning and purpose. Where HH thought he has grabbed the platform for PF MPs, councilors and members for 2026, Tonse alliance via NCP has ashamed the ruling party by giving fresh political life to both ECL and all his countrywide supporters. In other words, Kawambwa has announced the rebirth of PF in a different fashion that will politically haunt and defeat HH and UPND in 2026 via Tonse alliance. Yesterday, it was the first time PF participated in a bye election on Tonse Alliance play from the HH sponsored “an in-house rebellion and bedroom coup” through Miles Sampa and Robert Chabinga.

6. UPND working with state police and a compromised ECZ schemed a bloodily, brutally and fraudulently win narrowly KAWAMBWA seat yesterday against a poorly funded group of opposition political parties, civil society organizations and pressure groups who launched Tonse Alliance just last month. This speaks volumes against HH for 2026! By scoring very high at 35% against a ruling party (44%) that was heavily swimming in voter bribery and buying by openly distributing mealie meal and money to groups of chiefs, village head persons and general voters, Tonse alliance is on course to achieve their original aim of unseating the current government from office in 2026. In other words, Tonse scored so high!
7. For the new alliance that unveiled former President, Edgar Lungu as its presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections last month, beating all political competitors to come close and second only to the brutal, violent and oppressive ruling party is a major electoral victory in itself. By its performance in KAWAMBWA, Tonse alliance has made a loud political statement that it is now the true alternative government in waiting before Zambians for 2026 if they remain focused and United.

8. Despite being crashed with political intimidation, suppression and harassment by maliciously arresting Hon Jean Chisanga, Tonse Alliance Lawyer Mkandila, President Peter Chanda, Hon. Mumbi Phiri, Photographer Andy and others by Zambia police to scare everyone, the people of Kawambwa still voted for Tonse alliance in commendable thousands. For such an alliance which was participating for the first time to come out second with 35% voter score against the ruling party-UPND which has been in existence for 24 years that scored 44% total votes, Tonse must celebrate this as a huge achievement. It was a political fight between a two months old baby called Tonse Alliance verses a 24 years old man called UPND. Given the results, the baby has won!

9. According to Tonse Alliance Media and a group of election monitoring NGOs, by 15:00 yesterday, UPND violent thugs led by Trevor Mwiinde with pangas, knives and blazing guns chased opposition polling agents and monitors in 70% polling stations in Kawambwa with the aim of rigging the results. For example, UPND cadres attacked Fred Mulenga, an ECZ accredited election monitor at Lengwe Polling Station, badly beat him and is still admitted at Kawambwa general hospital. In 2026, UPND won’t have this brutal and violent squad terrorizing voters and election monitors countrywide! Each one will be on their own in their respective districts. And this why and how HH will fall.

10. UPND won fraudulently because there is evidence of video footage for UPND Vice National Youth Chairman, Trevor Mwiinde leading a group of violent thugs imported from Lusaka, Mazabuka, Choma and Monze who chased Tonse Alliance Spokesperson, Sean TEMBO and his team with all sorts of dangerous weapons. Sean Tembo forced himself into Kawambwa central police station to hide for safety but Trevor Mwiinde UPND violent thugs entered the station and physically stubbed him with a sharp knife in the presence of Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Mr. Yuyi who refused to protect him for being a critic of HH. This tactic only works in such a localized bye election, not general or presidential elections!

11. In 2026, Trevor Mwiinde’s violent crack squad will not multiply itself into all districts, constituencies and wards across Zambia to chase away opposition leaders, supporters and party agents as well as moniters from polling stations. Consequently, 2026 shall be generally free and fair in most places by default as well as by design and this is where HH and UPND will lose terribly to Tonse Alliance and ECL’s Plan B. In other words, it is impossible to replicate this Trevor Mwiinde panga blazing and bloody violence strategy to voters countrywide in any general or presidential election! Hence, this win is too temporal for UPND and Tonse alliance losing candidate must prepare to easily win in 2026 among the same people and voters.

12. ECL and Tonse Alliance must congratulate themselves for their legendary achievements in KAWAMBWA. Numbers don’t lie! Numbers speaks of the future! And numbers have us that ECL’s Plan B within the framework of the Tonse Alliance is a big game changer. In fact, it is Tonse Alliance Alternative Government against HH and UPND in 2026. The actual winner in KAWAMBWA was not UPND or anyone, it is ECL, PF and the Tonse Alliance family!

UPND may claim victory in Kawambwa, but they have lost the trust and respect of the Zambian people – Edgar  Lungu

My Fellow Zambians,

When I made the decision to return to politics, it was not for personal ambition. It was to defend the democracy that belongs to all Zambians. Yesterday’s election in Kawambwa reaffirmed the importance of the mission I laid out for myself on 28th October last year. I meant my words and still stand by what l said!

*A Call for Unity Among Opposition*

I speak to you today with gratitude in my heart and a deep sense of responsibility to the democracy that we all cherish and must guard jealously. To all the political parties that participated in the Kawambwa by-election, I express my heartfelt gratitude for your courage, patriotism and commitment to our electoral democracy and republican constitution. As opposition, lets unite as we consider contesting future polls such as in Petauke so that our vote is not fragmented. This is both important and crucial!

Despite political violence, unfair treatment, state intimidations and structural manipulations in Kawambwa, the opposition stood tall and fought for democracy and mother Zambia.  That was good and highly commendable. Allow me to salute you all for demonstrating to the world through your efforts that modern Zambia still has many assertive democracy defenders.  Let us collaborate, learn, strategise and grow stronger together as we prepare for future elections. When we work together as opposition, we have seen that we can achieve a lot for Zambians.

*New resolve and commitment*

Therefore, even in the face of such blatant manipulation of the outcome by the UPND, we find opportunities to strengthen our resolve and move on. The Kawambwa by-election has provided us with three key lessons that we must carry forward:

1. Learning the Tactics of the UPND: This election has given us first-hand experience of the methods being employed by the UPND to win elections. We will craft better strategies and tactics to counter their actions in the future.

2. Exposing their Desperation: The desperation displayed by the UPND to win this election at all costs was evident. We were meticulous in recording and documenting every infringement, every act of intimidation, and every malpractice we witnessed. These records will serve not only as evidence but also as a warning to the world and our fellow Zambians about the lengths the UPND is willing to go to undermine democracy.

3. Building Electoral Integrity: The lessons learnt from Kawambwa highlight the urgent need for better electoral infrastructure to protect our ballots and our democracy. I call upon all well-wishers, including the donor community, to join us in this effort. Protecting the integrity of our electoral process is critical, not just for democracy’s sake but for the peace and unity that Zambia has enjoyed since independence.

*A Commitment to Peace and Democracy*

Fellow Zambians, let us remind ourselves of an old saying: “ *If you win by cheating, you have already lost*.” The UPND may claim victory in Kawambwa, but they have lost the trust and respect of the Zambian people. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect our democracy, for it is the foundation of the peace we have enjoyed since independence.

The Kawambwa by-election, which concluded last night, was an eye-opening event for all of us who believe in free, fair, and peaceful elections. Sadly, the process fell far short of the internationaly accepted standards set by our Electoral Commission and, more importantly, the expectations of the Zambian people, and more specifically, the people of Kawambwa.

Reports from the ground spoke of voter intimidation, outright manipulation of the process, and a disregard for the principles that make elections free and fair. The actions and incidences we witnessed in Kawambwa do not just undermine this single election; they corrode our trust in the entire electoral system including future polls. But let us all remain resolute and firm in demanding for free, fair and credible elections in Zambia and continue to defend our cherished constitutional democracy!

May God bless Zambia, and may peace and justice always prevail.

Keeping good neighbourlines, the Zambia-Zimbabwe Diplomatic Stand-off – Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Keeping good neighbourlines, the Zambia-Zimbabwe Diplomatic Stand-off

The diplomatic stand-off between Zambia and Zimbabwe requires to be resolved urgently.

The recent renaming of Kenneth Kaunda Avenue to Fidel Castro Road in Harare and the introduction of the exorbitant transit charge of $21,500 per truck imposed,.on Zambian fuel tankers, demonstrates that this relationship is souring too quickly to arrest.

Any tax on goods crossing national borders presents a recognised trade barrier and this imposition by Zimbabwe against Zambia and DRC, violates both the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the  Southern African Development Community (SADC) rules against trade barriers including both tariffs and non-tariff barriers (NTBs).

This latest develooment is a culmination of a few things. President Hichilema has been shunning to travel to Harare even for important meetings such as the recent SADC Summit.

SADC convened an Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government on 20th November 2024, in Harare, to review security situation in the region, with focus on the situation in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

While heads of state were pictured having the Summit, President Hichilema was US Comedian, Steve Harvey at State House and his Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, was having a highly publicised press conference about an incident Harare, the alleged capture and purported arrest of Petauke Central Independent Member of Parliament Emmanuel JJ Banda.

The arres and Banda’s subsequent release, also demonstrated that both small and big things were being affected by the strained relationships and lack of priority by Zambia on these matters.

Zimbabwe has publicly expressed concern at the presence of the Africom security office in Lusaka, Zambia.

On April 25, 2022 the U.S. government announced the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) had opened an Office of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Zambia.

AFRICOM Brigadier General Peter Bailey, Deputy Director for Strategy, Engagement, and Programs, made the announcement during a meeting with President Hakainde Hichilema.

Hichilema and M’nangagwa maybe diametrically opposed in ideology and outlook in governing their countries, but the issue of AFRICOM is a regional matter of concern.

Both SADC and the African Union have expressed concern and opposed the setting up of security offices, military bases and miliatry presence in member states as this development exposes the countries to possible proxy wars and conflict by super power countries such as the USA, Russia, France and China.

The continental bodies encourage member states to maintain neutral stance as espoused in the non-aligned movement and encourages members to promote military cooperation with all instead of choosing or taking sides in this geopolitical game..

The presence of Africom in Zambia therefore, effectively sets the ground for the advancement of US military interests in the sub-region in Africa.

Botswana, which has hosted Africom in the last decade is considering a non-renewal policy because of these regional concerns.

Africom is one of 11 U.S. Department of Defense combatant commands, each with a geographic or functional mission that provides command and control of military forces in peace and war.

Harare has also expressed concern over the continued strong ties President Hichilema enjoys with the members of the Opposition in Zimbabwe both supported by their mutual sponsor, Brenthurst Foundation.

Brenthurst Foundation, founded by the mining family, the Oppenheimer, is a neo-liberal organisation promoting mining interests and neo-liberal governments in Africa.

When I saw former Vice President, Enoch Kavindele this week in Harare, as a special envoy of President Hakainde Hichilema, I was elated that maybe, a window of talks about these serious diplomatic matters, was opening between Lusaka and Harare.

It was not to be.

Kavindele was in Harare to meet President Emerson Mnangagwa as SADC chairperson to firm up the candidature of Samuel Munzele Maimbo,Samuel Munzele Maimbo current Vice President for Budget, Performance Review and Strategic Planning at the World Bank, and a candidate as president for the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) for the elections due in May 2025.

Special Envoy Kavindele released the following statement following the meeting with President Mnangagwa:

“I am elated to witness the growing success and momentum of Sam Maimbo’s candidacy to become the next President of the African Development Bank. I am filled with gratitude to our friends across both SADC and COMESA for their continued support and good wishes.”

When you ask both State Houses in Harare and Lusaka about Zambia/Zimbabwe relations, they say; “We enjoy cordial and warm relationships and our historical ties and shared values and the people to people relationship demonstrate that this bilateral can only grow better and better”!

BOZA, BUFI,

Let’s face reality.

Get to work and untangle this diplomatic web so that fuel can flow to Zambia and security can be assured in both countries and the region.

Tonse Alliance rejects  results of yesterday’s Kawambwa by-election

TONSE ALLIANCE STATEMENT ON THE RESULTS OF THE KAWAMBWA PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTIONS

Kawambwa, 21st December 2024

1. The TONSE ALLIANCE has noted the results of the Kawambwa Parliamentary By-Election as announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia, in which the Alliance Candidate, Mr. Danstan Mwansa, standing on the New Congress Party (NCP) ticket, is alleged to have scored 3,896 against the UPND Candidate who is alleged to have scored 5,519 votes and the SP Candidate who is alleged to have scored 1,501 votes.

2. The TONSE ALLIANCE would like to categorically state that we reject these results in their totality, on the basis of the following:
(i) the well documented violence perpetuated by the ruling UPND party across the entire Constituency, created an atmosphere in which a free and fair election could not possibly take place;

(ii) the biased manner in which the Zambia Police Service conducted themselves whereby they failed to arrest ruling UPND party cadres who committed various offenses, but where quick to arrest opposition officials like Hon. Jean Chisenga, Lawyer Celestine Mukandila and NCP President Peter Chanda, meant that the Police deliberately unlawfully tilted the election in favor of the ruling UPND party;

(iii) The chasing of Polling Agents and Election Monitors in Lyanga, Lushiba, Fisaka, Senga, Kala and Luena Wards of Kawambwa Constituency by UPND Cadres, in full view of the Police, meant that the TONSE ALLIANCE was deprived of the opportunity to confirm the veracity of the votes cast in these aforementioned Wards;

(iv) The refusal by Presiding Officers in all 59 Polling Stations, with the exception of Chitondo and Muyembe Primary Schools, to allow Voters who are illiterate, an opportunity to pick a person of their own choice to assist them in casting their votes, as well as the insistence of the Presiding Officers of Polling Stations that only them can guide the illiterate voters in secret and to the exclusion of Polling Agents and Election Monitors, meant that there was no way of determining that the Presiding Officers fulfilled the wishes of these illiterate voters and cast the ballot for the candidate desired by the illiterate voters. It is further worth mentioning that the levels of illiteracy in the most rural wards of Lyanga, Lushiba, Kala and Senga were as high as 60 percent among the voters that cast their votes yesterday. It should further be noted that the actions of these Presiding Officers to deny illiterate voters an opportunity to pick a person of their choice to help them cast their votes, is in contravention of paragraph 6.1 of the Electoral Process General Regulations and is unlawful.

3. In the premises above, the Council of Leaders of the TONSE ALLIANCE shall soon be convening a meeting to deliberate on the next steps to be taken in order to correct the illegality that took place in Kawambwa Central Constituency yesterday.

4. The TONSE ALLIANCE would like to take this opportunity to thank the many members of the Alliance who sacrificed their time, resources and personal security to campaign for the Alliance Candidate in this election. The TONSE ALLIANCE would also like to thank the good people of Kawambwa for giving us their vote, but we would like to apologize for our failure to adequately protect your vote. TILI TONSE 欄

A KBN TV EDITORIAL – POLITICAL LESSONS FROM KAWAMBWA PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTIONS

A KBN TV EDITORIAL – POLITICAL LESSONS FROM KAWAMBWA PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTIONS

Granted, the stakes were extremely high in the just ended Kawambwa Parliamentary by-election such that the results could have gone either way. Both the ruling party and opposition alliance put their best foot forward to try and claim this highly contested seat.

In the most unprecedented tussle for the Kawambwa seat, the remote town witnessed a surge of nearly half of the cabinet descending on it to cannivass for votes that should win them the seat desperately. The UPND is uncompromisingly bent on increasing its tally in Parliament while the embattled and fragmented PF wants to show that they are equally no pushover and a force to reckon with.

The PF resolve was demonstrated through a coalition of political party leaders and several functionaries that camped in Kawambwa for nearly a month to try and appeal to the voters as to why the seat needed to be handed to a Tonse Alliance candidate.

However, this was not to be the case as results show that the seat is gone . Gone from Nixon Chilangwa, gone from the Patriotic Front, gone from Tonse Alliance and ultimately gone from Danstan Mwansa. Clearly, the ruling party has added another seat to their numbers in Parliament. Unless something is done differently, the Kawambwa script is likely to be repeated in Petauke Central, Pambashe and most likely Chawama.

It’s worth noting that while the Tonse Alliance had an emotional campaign message about why they should claim the seat given the circumstances preceding the election, the ruling party on the other hand promised fertilizer, mealie meal, money, cooperatives and other rewards.

Whether or not yesterday’s results reflect the wishes of the people of Kawambwa, the reality is there’s celebration in one camp and mourning in the other. The question is, will the opposition overlook the lessons and hope for a different ball game in the upcoming by-elections?

All things being equal, this is an election that the opposition would have easily won if they managed to field one candidate. At least the three of them would have passed UPND by a narrow margin. They say numbers don’t lie.

Having suffered the damage of losing their preferred 2026 presidential candidate through a controversial ConCourt ruling, the Kawambwa by-election was such a huge battle field for the Tonse Alliance to prove their power to shift the tide of political fortunes in their favour.

Truth be told, given both the physical attacks some of them suffered and the ultimate loss of a seat they so desperately wanted to win, the Tonse Alliance is coming out of the Kawambwa by-election literally licking their wounds while  questioning what they could have done differently to claim the seat and prove popularity.

In the case of the ruling party, with President Hakainde Hichilema recently touting that his party would be no pushover out of power; the Kawambwa seat needed to fall in the hands of UPND by any means possible to send a strong message that his party is popular and in charge beyond its known traditional strongholds.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see if the Kawambwa by-election will pass without being challenged given several allegations of malpractice most of which were captured on social media to do with inducement, intimidation and violence etc.

Despite these perceived challenges, the Tonse Alliance team had put up a spirited fight and tried to stay alert by being proactive and responsive in flagging notable acts that were deemed to be against electoral rules.

Going forward, stakeholders must seriously address the issue of conflicted individuals running elections at the Electoral Commission of Zambia as issues of credibility and legitimacy are constantly coming up. The Police too, must rise above public perception of partisan interests and prove to the Zambian people that they are above board.

Lastly, the biggest lessons to be had from the Kawambwa by-election is that apart from being alert, the opposition should take interest and get familiar with the voter’s register to ensure it’s the correct one.

Always, deploy sufficient monitors to guard against potential malpractice and most importantly, the opposition must remain united and stop being self-defeated by splitting the votes.

If there is one matter to be settled once and for all, and should not be left to emotional judgement, is the need to rally behind a single opposition Presidential candidate come 2026.

This is the space for the States Man ECL, he has an inescapable duty to play by listening to voices beyond his immediate inner political circle. They have been expended, they have done their very best and results of their sincere effort are showing for all to see. Going forward, ECL has to endure the uncomfortable reality of being the States Man who sees matters beyond party politics but prioritizes national unity, prosperity and progress.

Can the Kawambwa Election Truly Be Called Free and Fair?- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Can the Kawambwa Election Truly Be Called Free and Fair?

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

The recently concluded Kawambwa by-election has been branded “free and fair” by some, but a deeper examination exposes an alarming pattern of electoral malpractices allegedly orchestrated by the ruling UPND government. Far from upholding democratic ideals, the election process was riddled with irregularities that undermine its credibility and cast doubt on whether it truly reflects the will of the people.

Allegations of Gross Malpractice

Reports point to widespread irregularities, including blatant voter intimidation, bribery, and the misuse of state resources to manipulate outcomes. Opposition parties have decried the open interference by government officials, who seemed more focused on suppressing dissent than upholding fairness and impartiality.

Minister Kapala, Felix Mutati, and other UPND officials were reportedly heard warning voters that their constituency would not see any development if they voted for an opposition candidate. They further claimed that President Hichilema is the “owner of CDF” (Constituency Development Funds) and suggested that failure to vote for a UPND candidate would result in the constituency being deprived of such funds.

This rhetoric not only undermines democratic principles but also creates a hostile and coercive environment for voters. It sends a dangerous message that development, a constitutional right, is a privilege to be earned through political allegiance rather than fair representation.

Shockingly, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has also been accused of aiding in electoral malpractices. Allegations surfaced that the ECZ issued voter cards in Nchelenge District just a day before voting—a move that raises serious questions about their neutrality and commitment to fairness. Reports also indicate that individuals were ferried to Nchelenge by UPND officials to register and then vote in the Kawambwa election, in direct violation of electoral regulations.

Worse still, ECZ Commissioner Macdonald Chipenzi and Chairperson Madam Mwangala Zaloumis are widely known UPND cadres who have openly driven the UPND agenda. Mr. Chipenzi, who had previously attempted to run for Member of Parliament in Siavonga District on the UPND ticket but was not adopted by the party, has cast further doubt on the impartiality of the electoral process. Critics argue that such individuals should not be allowed to oversee elections due to their clear political biases.

Violence and Intimidation

The Kawambwa election was not only marred by irregularities but also by shocking violence. President Sean Tembo, the spokesperson for the Tonse Alliance, revealed that he was stabbed by UPND Vice National Youth Chairman Trevor Mwiinde during the election. Similarly, the NCP President was also a victim of violence, signaling a disturbing trend of silencing dissent through physical intimidation.

Despite reporting these incidents to the police, no arrests have been made. Instead, Trevor Mwiinde held a press conference denying the allegations. This raises a critical question: why haven’t the police thoroughly investigated this case?

In another instance, a UPND official was reportedly heard threatening Hon. Mulenga Fube, MP for Chilubi, warning him of retribution. Despite reporting this to the police, no action has been taken, further suggesting that the police may be acting as an extension of the UPND, driving their agenda rather than upholding the law.

Such acts of violence not only undermine the electoral process but also erode public confidence in Zambia’s democracy. The toxic atmosphere left many citizens feeling unsafe to freely express their political preferences, fearing retaliation from ruling party operatives. This climate of fear effectively suppressed dissenting voices and robbed the election of its legitimacy.

Blatant Abuse of State Resources

One of the most glaring violations was the shameless abuse of state resources. Government vehicles, personnel, and funds were allegedly deployed to support the UPND campaign, creating an uneven playing field. This misuse of public resources not only violates electoral ethics but also betrays the trust of Zambians, who expect their taxes to be used for national development—not partisan politics.

UPND officials were reportedly distributing mealie-meal and fertilizer to voters.

State resources were allegedly used to transport voters, provide financial incentives to supporters, and intimidate opposition members. This clear advantage left opposition candidates struggling to compete on equal footing, further eroding the fairness of the electoral process.

A Crisis of Legitimacy

With such glaring irregularities, allegations of violence, and the misuse of state resources, the legitimacy of the Kawambwa election is deeply questionable. Elections are meant to reflect the will of the people, but when the process is marred by misconduct, manipulation, and coercion, the outcome cannot be considered credible.

By allowing such practices to go unchecked, Zambia risks sliding into an era where elections become mere formalities designed to legitimize predetermined outcomes rather than genuine expressions of the people’s will.

Conclusion: Zambians Deserve Better

The Kawambwa election may have delivered a declared winner, but the process leading to that outcome was  not free or fair. The widespread malpractices, misuse of power, and violent incidents have left a stain on Zambia’s democracy and highlighted the urgent need for accountability and reform.

Zambians deserve better—a government and electoral system that uphold their democratic rights, respect the rule of law, and prioritize fairness above political gain. It is time for the UPND government, the ECZ, and all relevant stakeholders to take meaningful action to restore the integrity of Zambia’s elections. Anything less would be a betrayal of the people’s trust and a significant step backward for democracy.

KAWAMBWA A SIGN THAT UPND IS GONE- Hon. Munir Zulu

KAWAMBWA A SIGN THAT UPND IS GONE

Lumezi Independent member of Parliament Munir Zulu says the Kawambwa by-election has shown that the ruling UPND is gone come 2026.

Zulu says the UPND is just deceiving itself as whatever they did in Kawambwa will not happen in 2026.

In an article below availed to Zambian Eye, Zulu the camping of cabinet ministers and use of police  will not happen as in a general election, if is each one for himself.

The Kawambwa Bye Election!

If I speak to it holistically, I may be arrested for seditious practices but let me speak to it in form of an advise to those that have ears.

The alertness levels that have been exhibited by the general populace speaks to one issue and that is if it was a general election then the ruling Party is done and dusted.  In a general election the abuse of police men and women is very minimal as they all try to be neutral to avoid being found on partisan lines.  It is a difficult task to abuse the police in a general election as its always everyone for himself and God for us all .

If at all the rumours circulating are true, I feel sorry for the ruling Party today .  You can not have this kind of pressure in your first term of being in office to an extent of registering fresh voters in the night, ferry the newly registered voters to a different district just to create an impression that you can win an election ! How do you even have them vote from a different constituency when you are using the 2021 electoral register? It’s better you lose and have a self introspection than deceive yourselves with fake analysis.

You are in government and yet you send the entire cabinet to defeat a man whom you have detained. Honourable Chilangwa has proven that had he not been detained,  him alone is equivalent to the number of cabinet ministers and permanent secretaries put together. How else can one explain this type of desperation?

The General election won’t have fake charges being slapped on any future candidates as parliament would have been dissolved and so no illegal orders shall be executed.

The best way is to reduce the cost of living and fulfill the campaign promises.  That’s the medicine  for a re election and not police brutality.

FAITH MUSONDA’S K21M PROPERTIES FORFEITED TO THE STATE

ACC STATEMENT:

FAITH MUSONDA’S K21M PROPERTIES FORFEITED TO THE STATE

The Economic and Financial Crimes Court has forfeited to the State Faith Musonda’s properties worth over K21,000,000 which were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The properties became a subject of investigations after Musonda failed to disclose her possession in an agreement entered into with the Anti-Corruption Commission under Section 80 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

This was after Musonda was in 2021 found in possession of K65 million Kwacha, US$ 57,900 and a house in New Kasama worth over K6 million suspected to be proceeds of crime which were subsequently forfeited to the State. She then entered into an agreement with the Commission to surrender the said assets in accordance with Section 80 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

The Act provides that a suspect who enters into such an agreement should comply with the following:

i. Give a full and true disclosure of all material facts relating to past corrupt conduct and an illegal activity by that person or others; and;
ii. Voluntarily pay, deposit or refund all property the person acquired through corruption or illegal activity.

However, investigations established that Musonda did not comply with these provisions as it was revealed that she was also in possession of other properties which she did not disclose.

These properties are:
-US$ 144,500.00 being money paid towards the purchase of a house in Kingsland City;
-a farm in Chisamba worth about K6,400,000.00;
-a plot in Ibex Hill area on which sits Life Television worth K3,516,000.00; -Government Bonds worth K3,140,000.00;
-Treasury Bills in the sum of K1,100,000.00;
-a sum of K1,219,110.00 held with Madison Finance Limited in a Fixed Term Deposit facility;
-and assorted jewels worth between US$ 3,450.00 – US$ 4,300.00.

Also forfeited are farming implements which include, a Tafe Tractor 7515; A Plough Disc; A Harrow Disc; a Planter, a Boom Sprayer and a 5tonne Trailer all valued at US$ 54,844.00.

Following the investigations, the Anti-Corruption Commission made an application for a Non-Conviction-Based Forfeiture Order before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court pursuant to the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act.
In a Judgement delivered yesterday by High Court Judge S.M. Wanjelani, sitting together with Judges I.M. Mabbolobbolo, and S.V. Siloka, the Court ruled that once the Applicant has proved a factual basis for having suspicion that the property is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime, the evidential burden shifts to the person claiming an interest to prove their claim with evidence.

The Court noted that the interested Parties had failed to adduce evidence that the Properties which were the subject of the proceedings were legitimately acquired and that the Commission as an Applicant had proved its case for a Non-Conviction Based Forfeiture Order for tainted Property on a balance of probability in accordance with the provisions of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act.

The Commission will ensure that that it pursues individuals that deliberately ignore the provisions of Section 80 of the Anti-Corruption Act and any properties that may be deemed to have been illicitly acquired will be traced, recovered and forfeited to the State for the people of Zambia. In addition, individuals that will be found wanting will be prosecuted in the courts of law.

Intoxicated on borrowed and deceitfully acquired power, is the UPND deliberately courting national violence?- Azwell Banda

Intoxicated on borrowed and deceitfully acquired power, is the UPND deliberately courting national violence?

By Azwell Banda,

Everyone in the UPND is on it: they all are, like the incurable fools that they are, celebrating their “Constitutional Court victory” over Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

It takes a particularly, uniquely, perverted and cruel group of insanely drunk people on deceitfully acquired power to celebrate a clearly fake victory such as Hakainde Hichilema and his entire UPND sycophantic political choir are doing!

Like little children who happily think they have gotten away without being caught after stealing poisoned sweets, Hakainde Hichilema and his entire UPND choir are falling over each other, trying to outperform each other, about telling us and the whole world how they “cleverly” outwitted Edgar Chagwa Lungu in court and “defeated” him. Everyone, not even the UPND Attorney General wants to be left out of the celebratory dance: Edgar Chagwa Lungu must now withdraw from politics and take up the role of “statesman” they all croon.

Typical of Hakainde Hichilema and his pathological craving for self-praise, he has, in so many ways, from his own mouth, since the judgment, actually revealed and announced to the whole world that he personally participated in gathering evidence, scouring the world for justifications, and formulating the fake judgment against Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Nothing best shutters the liberal fake assumption and myth of the “separation of powers” than how Hichilema and the entire UPND – in and out of government – have behaved over the Edgar Chagwa Lungu eligibility case and its hollow, sham Constitutional Court judgment.

And then there are all those political morons, some of them quite intelligent, educated and well meaning, who are “advising” Chagwa Lungu to move on, abandon his current “deceitful and evil” political activities, just accept the court judgment, anoint a successor in his Patriotic Front (PF) party and maybe play a supportive role to any opposition presidential candidate he may personally support. Apparently the UPND government and Hichilema himself, should Lungu withdraw from active politics this time, they will then stop persecuting and prosecuting Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s family and political party.

One needs to be a political moron of a very special type to believe Hichilema and his UPND choir would leave Lungu alone, if now, after the fake eligibility judgment, Lungu “retired” from “active politics”. Hakainde Hichilema and the entire UPND have not graduated from opposition politics, cannot do so, precisely because they were never meant to be in government in the first place; they cheated their way into government, and are staying in government through their lying ways which now include their insanely annoying celebrations over their fake, cooked up Constitutional Court judgment over the eligibility case of Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

A deeply troubling question is the matter of the sanity and conduct of any group of men and women in government who rejoice and publicly celebrate a fake victory such as how Hakainde and his UPND are celebrating their “victory” on the eligibility case of Edgar Chagwa Lungu. All capitalist politics, like capitalism itself, are rotten and based on lies, trickery, crookery, hypocrisy and all manner of deception. Most people know and understand this, especially the politicians themselves. Still, most politicians retain a modicum of decency, respect for themselves, and some basic sanity, by not consciously lying even to themselves!

Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND however, cook up lies, consciously lie to themselves and go on to believe in their own lies, and then celebrate these lies, publicly, as the truth. There is no better set of clinical symptoms of chronic insanity than this kind of behaviour. A liar who is still sane does not believe and celebrate the lies they consciously make about themselves. To the contrary, a sane liar actually hates that he or she has to lie, especially to themselves! Such a sane liar cannot celebrate a lie they concoct about themselves. Such a sane liar is still possessed of the ability to distinguish between the truth and a lie: this is also one test for sanity. Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND miserably fail this sanity test.

Take the incredibly insulting claim to millions of Zambians suffering from chronic hunger and extreme poverty induced by the UPND government that the UPND government is rated first in Africa at delivering for its country’s people. This extremely insensitive and insane claim is related to the claim by the UPND government that they have delivered more than 80 per cent of their campaign promises to Zambians barely three years in government. It is also related to Hakainde Hichilema’s schizophrenic claim that other countries want him to assist them attend to their national problems as he has done for Zambia. These insane claims are all related to the claim that Hichilema and the UPND government are the “first government” to do so many good things “for the first time” for Zambia, in such a short time.

Meanwhile, any objective examination of the really lived economic and social conditions of the majority of Zambians reveals starkly opposite evidence to these insane claims, made by Hichilema and his UPND sycophants. In our entire 60-year history, no political party in government, not even Chiluba’s Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) government, has ever unleashed such a concoction of insanely selfish, and punishing economic and social policies in Zambia, when in the opposition they promised the exact opposite!

When in the opposition, Hakainde Hichilema and his sadistic UPND party did not promise Zambians ever rising and extremely high prices of water, food, diesel, paraffin, petrol, electricity, transport, rent, property rates, road tolls and so on. Nor did they promise Zambians ever rising inflation and exchange rates. They boasted they would resolve our hunger, unemployment and poverty crises, almost overnight. They claimed they had the solution to deal with our debt and reduce, not increase, our debt. They boasted they would end load shedding and end our dependence on hydroelectricity. We now simultaneously have punishing electricity load shedding and extremely expensive electricity! All these things impact very negatively, massively, on the standard of living for all Zambians and on the cost of doing business, in Zambia. Combined, all these things and more have unleashed mass poverty throughout Zambia such as we have never experienced.

The Chief Justice has recently bemoaned the extremely high and ever rising gender-based violence in Zambia. We have explosive and rising unemployment. The Bank of Zambia governor has bemoaned the corruption and poor services in our public health system. The Minister of Health has proclaimed that there is corruption everywhere in government, not just in the Ministry of Health. There are ever rising numbers of beggars and orphans everywhere, throughout the country, now cruelly called “junkies”. Many such negative and morbid symptoms of a failed government and collapsing country greets one at every corner throughout Zambia. Hunger and the stench of mass poverty in Zambia today are overwhelming. In opposition, Hakainde and the UPND promised to reduce both. And yet the UPND government claims they have demonstrated to the whole world they are the best African government at delivering to their people. This is not the usual lying and deception that happens in all capitalist countries. This is unique: it is a symptom of a very rotten and sick economy, society, country and its government. It is pure undiluted insanity.

It is the shocking mass silence and passivity at such public display of insanity in government which renders our entire society and country insane. No mass protests at such lunacy in government, throughout the country. Only a deafening silence. And the usual opposition parties’ claim that Zambians are patiently waiting for 2026 to remove the UPND from government, and install them, in government. This, apparently, is how our “democracy” works: elect liars, thieves and the corrupt into government, and wait for them to irreparably damage the country, then elect them out of government by electing a new set of liars, thieves and the corrupt, into government. Meanwhile, mass hunger, unemployment, poverty and inequalities continue to worsen!

It is now clear that in opposition for upward of 23 years, the UPND and Hakainde Hichilema grew to have absolute contempt (and possible hatred) for Zambians and how they treat their politicians in government: it is payback time now, and, knowing how passive, pacifist, incapable of defending any values and even our own lives, Hichilema and the UPND have become thoroughly intoxicated with borrowed and deceitfully acquired political power: they are manufacturing lies for us and for themselves, and have gone mad – they actually believe their own lies and deceptions, and celebrate them!

No individual or people are born with genes for non-violence. Any individual, or people, pushed beyond a certain point, may react violently. It is material conditions which either reduce and eliminate violence, or incite and trigger it. A people that enjoys “peace” do so because they have cultivated, grown and nurtured “peace”, among themselves. Those who plant the seeds for violence eventually reap its fruits, its rewards. Are Hichilema and the UPND, extremely arrogant and conceited, in their insanely unbelievable lies and deceptions goading Zambians towards mass political violence? Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND are truly sowing the wind, they shall harvest the storm!

UPND USING HUNGER TO MANIPULATE  VOTERS IN BY-ELECTIONS, NEW HERITAGE PARTY

UPND USING HUNGER TO MANIPULATE  VOTERS IN BY-ELECTIONS, NEW HERITAGE PARTY

THE JUST ENDED BYE ELECTIONS ARE NOT FREE AND FAIR, AS INTIMIDATIONS AND WIDESPREAD HUNGER IN ZAMBIA IS BEING USED BY UPND AS A POLITICAL TOOL TO MANIPULATE VOTERS.

21st December 2024.

Lusaka, Zambia.

The recently concluded by-elections  are a stark reflection of the corruption and intolerance exhibited by the UPND country wide.

For starters, the police and ECZ are shamelessly now UPND cadres who can democratically implement law and order..

We are appalled by the blatant disregard for democratic principles, as evidenced by the expulsion of NHP/UKA campaign team from Kawama ward on 19th December 2024 by UPND cadres during the by-election, in Chililabombwe in full view of police . This incident raises serious concerns about the safety and security of our citizens. The names of those behind this evil corrupt act are known; it is only that the witnesses are scared for their well being to stand as witnesses in court, so we cannot publish the list of names of UPND unholy scum implementers , or take legal action as of now.

UPND’s desperation to cling to power makes them use hunger to buy voters, rather than earning the trust of the Zambians through fair and transparent means.

For example, let us look at an imagined  polling station with 700 registered voters. When the ruling UPND party realizes that they  only have 300 supporters, they use the ECZ voters registers to identify the voters, analyze and count how many are their know cadres and supporters, and how many are not supporting them, hence are likely to vote for the opposition. To sway the election in their favor, they target and  bribed around 200-250 voters from the opposition with essentials like mealie meal, cooking oil, sugar, and money in exchange with voters cards and NRCs. The UPND agents collect these and withhold them untill after the elections are included, there by creating a low turn out for opposition supporters and voters, effectively disenfranchising them.

Additionally, in bye elections areas, UPND is using social cash transfers to pregnant women, breast feeding mothers and seniors to vote buy. They also intensify developmental projects like road maintainance, work for food, work for money and giving CDF monies to applicants to swing votes into UPND favour.

This tactic is particularly exploitative, given the widespread hunger in Zambia, which is being used as a political tool to manipulate voters.

In essence, Zambians are being forced to choose between exercising their democratic right to vote and feeding their families. Many loving parents are left with no option but choose to feed their children for a few days.  This is a false dichotomy, and it’s unacceptable that the UPND is  using hunger as a means to maintain their power.

Due to this evil tactic, it can clearly be seen that UPND is scoring higher in low income areas and rural Zambia, while losing in middle income and high income polling stations.

The whole  upnd thing is against human rights. The international community, including organizations like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, has expressed concerns about Zambia’s deteriorating human rights situation and the need for reforms to ensure credible elections.

In light of these developments, the New Heritage Party (NHP) cannot in good conscience declare these elections as free and fair. Instead, we view them as a manifestation of the UPND’s intimidation tactics, designed to silence opposition voices and maintain their grip on power.

As the New Heritage Party, we will continue to stand strong against these undemocratic practices and fight for a Zambia where every citizen’s voice is heard and valued.

POWER WITHOUT LEGITIMACY- Ephraim Shakafuswa

POWER WITHOUT LEGITIMACY

By Ephraim Shakafuswa, Member – Council of Leaders, Tonse Alliance

Ah, the sweet taste of triumph—or is it bitterness? Winning an election should be a crowning achievement, a time to bask in the glory of democracy. But when your “victory” is marinated in fraud and manipulation, well, the confetti just doesn’t sparkle quite the same.

Picture this: you’re on stage, confetti raining down, supporters cheering with all the enthusiasm of an infomercial audience. Yet, in your heart, there’s a gaping void. Sure, you’ve “won,” but instead of feeling like a conquering hero, you’re more like an actor who flubbed every line but still got a standing ovation—awkward and completely undeserved. Congratulations! You’re now the proud owner of power without legitimacy. Hope you kept the receipt.

Here’s a fun twist: the higher you climb on your wobbly ladder of deceit, the more people down below are glaring up at you, arms crossed, thinking, Really? This guy? Deep down, you know it too. Every handshake feels clammy, every smile reeks of insincerity. The public doesn’t adore you; they tolerate you—barely. But hey, who needs love when you have power, right? You do. It’s lonely up there.

Ah, the victory party. Balloons, champagne, fake smiles. A real “how did we get here?” moment. Each cheer sounds suspiciously like a question: Do they know? Are they pretending? Or is this some kind of elaborate prank? Instead of elation, you get paranoia served on a silver platter. But don’t worry—the people clapping the loudest are just as unsure as you are. Nothing screams leadership like a toast drowned in existential dread.

So, what’s next for our triumphant fraudster? Redemption, perhaps? No, not with more lies—those are getting old. Maybe try sincerity for a change. (What’s that? You don’t know how? Yikes.) Start by facing the uncomfortable reality you’ve been avoiding: your victory isn’t a mandate; it’s a mark of suspicion. Transparency and accountability might help, but let’s be real—they’re probably not your strong suit.

At the end of the day, power achieved through deceit is like a counterfeit trophy—it looks shiny but crumbles under scrutiny. Sure, you can call yourself a winner, but history? History has a knack for labeling people with sharper words. So, enjoy your ill-gotten title while it lasts. Just know that respect and admiration aren’t part of the prize package.

POLITICAL VIOLENCE MUST NEVER BE ALLOWED IN ZAMBIAN’S DEMOCRATIC SPACE

POLITICAL VIOLENCE MUST NEVER BE ALLOWED IN ZAMBIAN’S DEMOCRATIC SPACE

….. alleged rigging reports in the just ended Kawambwa Central Parliamentary by-election very disturbing, says ANDD

21st December 2024, Lusaka-Zambia.

It is with a deep sense of concern that we address the recent reports of vi0lence and the alleged rigging of elections, particularly the disturbing accounts from the Kawambwa By-Elections.

Such actions are unacceptable and must be thoroughly investigated. The police must act swiftly to identify and arrest those responsible for the vi0lence. In a democratic society, political leaders must uphold democratic principles in their pursuit of political agendas, refraining from resorting to vi0lence.

The politics of vi0lence have no place in Zambia, as our nation is committed to the advancement of progressive developmental ideas.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) must take seriously the reports of election rigging and the complaints raised by opposition political parties. It is crucial that the ECZ addresses these allegations with transparency and urgency to maintain its integrity and credibility.

Failure to do so will undermine public confidence in the ECZ, particularly with the upcoming 2026 General Elections. As an essential governance institution, the ECZ has a responsibility to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.

Furthermore, reports of the harassment and exclusion of NGO election monitors and opposition party observers are deeply troubling. Such actions suggest that the recent by-elections were not conducted in a conducive, free, and fair environment. As accredited monitors, these individuals hold a legal mandate to ensure the election process is transparent and fair.

These serious allegations must be investigated by both the ECZ and the police to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and to protect Zambia’s democratic values.

We urge all relevant authorities to take immediate action to address these issues in the interest of maintaining Zambia’s democratic principles.

The US has scrapped a $10m (£7.9m) reward for the arrest of Syria’s de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, following meetings between senior diplomats and representatives from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf said the discussion with Sharaa was “very productive”, and he came across as “pragmatic”.

The US delegation arrived in the capital, Damascus, after HTS overthrew the Bashar al-Assad regime less than a fortnight ago. Washington still designates it as a terrorist group.

A State Department spokesperson confirmed that the diplomats discussed “transition principles” supported by the US, regional events and the need to fight against IS.

The spokesperson also said the officials were seeking further information on American citizens who disappeared under Assad’s regime, including journalist Austin Tice, who was abducted in Damascus in 2012, and psychotherapist Majd Kamalmaz, who disappeared in 2017.

A US embassy spokesperson earlier said a news conference involving Ms Leaf had been cancelled due to “security concerns”.

However during a later briefing, Leaf denied that, insisting “street celebrations” were the cause of the delay.

The visit is the first formal American diplomatic appearance in Damascus in more than a decade.

It is a further sign of the dramatic shifts under way in Syria since the ousting of Assad, and the speed of efforts by the US and Europe, also leaning on Arab countries, to try to influence its emerging governance.

The visit follows those of delegations in recent days from the UN and other countries including the UK, France and Germany.

The delegation of senior officials includes Barbara Leaf, Roger Carstens, who is US President Joe Biden’s hostage envoy, and Daniel Rubinstein, a senior adviser in the Bureau of Near East Affairs. [ BBC News]

FATHER REJECTS 16 YEAR OLD GIRL AS SHE REFUSES TO BE MARRIED OFF

A 16-year-old girl from Mung’anga village in Chipili District of Luapula Province has been forced to leave home by her father after he attempted to marry her off against her will.

The girl, name withheld, narrated that on December 10, 2024, her father received representatives of her supposed future husband from the same village to pay dowry for her to get married.

ZANIS reports that, however, the girl, turned down the marriage proposal and the dowry, an action which infuriated her father, Enock Mwaba, 46, who as a result banished her from his home.

“Some people came to pay so that I get married but I don’t want to. My father is upset that I refused so he has chased me from home. I don’t want to get married,” the girl narrated in Bemba.

The girl has appealed to the government to intervene and to sponsor her education into boarding school, fearing she cannot concentrate on her education in the same environment where her father resides.

“I just want to go back to school. I’m appealing to government to take me into a boarding school far away from here so that I’m not disturbed,” the girl said.

Meanwhile, the girl’s mother, Chamba Priscilla, 41, has revealed that her husband’s behaviour towards the girl deteriorated after their daughter fell pregnant at 15 years subsequently dropping out of school.

“He has been physically and emotionally abusive to her and often insults me for no reason,” Ms Chamba said.

Meanwhile, government has intervened in the matter and provided the girl a Boarding School Bursary under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Chipili District Administrative Officer, Katele Lengwe, confirmed the development saying the girl will resume her education from grade six at a named boarding school.

“Girl children should not be married off but allowed to go to school. It is also important to allow children to make their own choices, free from parental coercion,” Mr Katele said.

He added that the girl will undergo psychological counseling before reporting for school.

Unashamed Stealing of Kawambwa Seat- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Unashamed Stealing of Kawambwa Seat

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

This was a total sham of an election. The people of Kawambwa overwhelmingly voted for Mwansa Danstan of the NCP, despite the odds, the vote buying, the violence and bribery as confirmed by Transparency International.

We however must recognise the gallantry effort of Mambilima MP, Hon. Jean Chisenga and Lusaka lawyer Celestine Mukandila who tried to stop the violence planned for election day and now are detained at Kawambwa Police Station locked up and unfairly facing allegations of robbery and theft.

Similarly we must recognise the heroic efforts of Hon. Mumbi Phiri who bravely stormed a centre where Minister of Green Economy and Emvironment, Mike Mposha was engaged in clear electoral malpractices.

And kudos to Kanele Radio Station who investigated and filmed live the voter registration and transportation of these illegal voters from Nchelenge to Kawambwa.
Further the work of the campaign team led by Hon. Anthony Kasandwe, Hon. Chanda Katotobwe and others put up a spirited campaign

But we are also to blame for failing to protect the vote on the last day, for allowing Trevor Mwiinde and his goons to run riot, violently chase our polling agents and the leadership did not help by deserting both polling stations and for being absent at the totalling centre.

We truly must scale-up our game to face this scale of state fraud, theft and violence of the vote.

Yes UPND, in active collusion with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), has unashamedly stolen this election.

UPND has used thuggery, violence and manipulation while the Zambia Police watched grinning with amusing glee.

It’s a sad reminder how they similarly used ECZ and the courts of law to steal Kabushi and Kwacha seats and now they have horned the thieving skills!

What shall we do? Just continue to cry? We have Pambashe and Petauke parliamentary by-elections coming up soon.

How do we fight such a determined state enemy backed by ECZ, the Zambia Police and UPND thuggery?

JOINT PRESS STATEMENT BY THE ZAMBIA DEFENCE FORCE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

The Zambia Defence Force and all law enforcement agencies have resolved to enhance measures aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens. In this regard, we wish to issue a stern warning to all individuals engaging in activities that threaten the safety and security of the nation.

From henceforth, the Zambia Police Service, in collaboration with other law enforcement wings and the Zambia Defence Force, will actively identify and apprehend individuals found in possession of the following:
Military Wear: Unauthorized persons wearing military attire or items resembling such will be subjected to the full force of the law.

Guns and Offensive Weapons: Possession of firearms or offensive weapons, including but not limited to machetes, intended to endanger lives, will result in immediate arrest and prosecution.

Furthermore, the Zambia Police Service strongly urges the textile industry, traders, and members of the general public to refrain from engaging in the unlicensed manufacturing, trading, and wearing of military regalia. Any individual found to be an accessory to these unlawful acts, whether as a seller or buyer, will be held accountable and shall not be excused on grounds of ignorance.

In addition, the public is warned against the practice of painting motor vehicles in camouflage patterns that resemble the colors and designs of either the Defence Force or law enforcement agencies. Such acts are misleading and may be used to perpetrate criminal activities, thereby undermining public trust and safety.

The general public is strongly urged to remain vigilant and to report, without delay, any individuals they observe engaging in these illegal activities. Reports can be made to the nearest police station.

Kawambwa by-election is done and dusted, people of Kawambwa have spoken again- UPND SG

PRESS RELEASE

Kawambwa by-election is done and dusted, people of Kawambwa have spoken again. We will, from the onset, like to congratulate our Nason Musonda for winning Kawambwa Parliamentary seat. We also proudly salute our gallant campaigners for over riding the overzealous opposition.

Going by the dynamics of our 2021 sweet victory, we have again registered a convincing victory against the rencarnated PF (Tonse). Tonse came into the electoral arena blowing hot air but left Kawambwa socked like village chicken.

Your God Father, ECL was in Kawambwa wagging a protracted campaign, what did you yield in return apart from demonstrating your old habits? ECL who was, all this time riding on the tide of the late President Michael Sata’s fortune is now facing a real challenge.

Shamefully, the peace that the country enjoyed in by-elections in the past three years has been replaced by the emergency of shameless violence reintroduced by PF wearing a Tonse jacket.

We hope the international community is watching attentively as the opposition is shamelessly threatening peace and democracy.

Vanguished Tonse, if this is your Plan B, we want to assure you that we will meet you head on. Our respect for peace, unity and inclusiveness must never ever be mistaken for cowardice or weakness.

Remember, we faced you squarely and decisively when we were in opposition and perceived. You should know that today we are in full control of things.

We shall not let you destroy Zambia’s renowned culture of peace loving and go scot free.

Petauke and Pambashe Constituencies are coming, like they say in Copperbelt “Chisanga ba lete” indeed, come in big numbers, the harder you will fall.

The unconfirmed information is indicating that a desperate Zambian opposition party intends to invite former South African President Jacob Zuma to and help them redeem their lost fortune.

Are these not the same people who stopped Musi Maimani to enter Zambia to give solidarity to the incarcerated HH at the time? Caona muzako mawa cili kwaiwe.

Statement on Violence in Kawambwa and Allegations of Witchcraft

Statement on Violence in Kawambwa and Allegations of Witchcraft
I address you today with profound disappointment regarding the Zambia Police’s failure to secure peace in Kawambwa. Recent developments, including the violence witnessed and the response of law enforcement, highlight a systemic issue of reactivity over proactivity.

It is disheartening that we only saw a statement from the Inspector General of Police after violence had already erupted. The hallmark of an effective police force is its ability to prevent violence, not merely respond to it. A proactive approach would have involved deploying troops to Kawambwa several days before the unrest, issuing public warnings, and ensuring the safety of all citizens ahead of the elections. Instead, the reactive measures have failed to protect the community and secure public trust.

Moreover, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) bears responsibility for these failures. Given prior reports of election fraud and compromised officials within ECZ, the elections in Kawambwa should have been postponed. ECZ’s inability to address these concerns demonstrates a lapse in their duty to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.

The selective application of justice by Zambia Police further compounds this crisis. Opposition members’ complaints and reports often go ignored, while allegations from the ruling UPND are swiftly acted upon. This disparity creates a dangerous precedent and fuels public distrust in law enforcement. To address this, I strongly recommend that Zambia Police adopt body cameras as a standard tool. Body cameras ensure transparency and accountability, preventing abuse of power and providing clear evidence during investigations. Such measures are already in place in countries like the United States, where police accountability has historically been a concern. Zambia must follow suit if it is to modernize its law enforcement practices.

Equally troubling are the allegations of witchcraft being used as a political weapon. In the 21st century, baseless accusations of witchcraft have no place in governance or law enforcement. Accusations made without credible evidence risk plunging our nation into chaos and undermine the dignity of our people. The government must act responsibly and refrain from issuing statements or taking action without substantiated proof.

Zambians deserve a justice system that is impartial, proactive, and transparent. The current state of affairs cannot continue if we are to build a nation founded on fairness, equality, and human rights. I urge all Zambians to demand better from both the police and the government, holding them accountable to higher standards.

Massive Corruption Allegations Shake ZCCM-IH – Calls for Urgent Action Against Syndicate Behind Ndola Lime Company Scandal

Massive Corruption Allegations Shake ZCCM-IH – Calls for Urgent Action Against Syndicate Behind Ndola Lime Company Scandal

Zambia’s economy is bleeding—and it’s not by accident. The fallout from a $120 million scandal at Ndola Lime Company (NLC), now renamed Limestone Resources Limited, reveals a sordid tale of negligence, corruption, and systemic rot. Despite repeated parliamentary calls for accountability and justice, ZCCM Investments Holdings (ZCCM-IH) and its overseer, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), appear paralyzed by inaction.

The story begins with NLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ZCCM-IH, grappling with mounting losses for years. In a bid to salvage the ailing company, ZCCM-IH poured in $120 million, a colossal amount in a struggling economy. Key to this recapitalization project was a faulty kiln—VK2—procured from Italian suppliers under highly questionable circumstances.

From the start, the deal reeked of fraud. Payment of $7.9 million for the kiln was made in full, without any verification of its functionality. The kiln predictably failed to operate, and the supplier company conveniently declared bankruptcy, leaving Zambia with an inoperative asset and no recourse.

Worse still, local collaborators are suspected of facilitating this brazen theft, enriching themselves at the expense of a nation.

The scandal didn’t escape scrutiny. In 2019, Zambia’s Parliament issued a scathing report, calling for:

Investigations via Interpol into the procurement process.

A forensic audit to expose and prosecute those involved.

These recommendations were directed squarely at the IDC, ZCCM-IH’s majority shareholder. Yet, five years later, no meaningful action has been taken. Instead, the same leadership tasked with safeguarding public assets remains silent, even as ZCCM-IH teeters on the edge of financial disaster.

The IDC, which boasts the President of Zambia as its chairman, has done nothing to address the allegations. This silence is not only baffling but also deeply suspicious, raising uncomfortable questions about who in power might be complicit.

In what seems like an attempt to sweep the scandal under the rug, Ndola Lime Company has been rebranded as Limestone Resources Limited. But no name change can erase the $120 million hole in ZCCM-IH’s accounts. Even more alarming, ZCCM-IH plans to invest millions more into this tainted project without first addressing the underlying corruption.

The sums lost are staggering. To put it in perspective, the $7.9 million lost to the kiln alone represents half of the dividends ZCCM-IH received from Kansanshi Mining Plc over two decades. For a country grappling with debt and economic hardship, this is not just a financial scandal—it is a betrayal of public trust on a grand scale.

The consequences are dire. IDC’s financial health is crumbling, with ZESCO already a significant liability. ZCCM-IH was one of the few remaining pillars capable of generating income for the state. Now, even that is under threat.

ZCCM Defense, a group of minority shareholders led by Thierry Charles, has been relentless in demanding accountability. Formal requests to both former IDC CEO Mateyo Kaluba and current CEO Cornwell Muleya have gone unanswered. This refusal to act not only violates parliamentary directives but also undermines President Hakainde Hichilema’s pledge to root out corruption.

“The IDC’s silence is a slap in the face to every Zambian citizen,” said Charles. “We cannot allow those who looted public funds to walk free while our people suffer. This is not just negligence—it is complicity.”

On 17 December 2024, ZCCM Defense formally requested the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate this scandal with urgency. With public anger mounting, the ACC has a chance to prove its commitment to justice—or risk being seen as another cog in a corrupt machine.

The Zambian people deserve answers, and they deserve them now. Each day of inaction deepens the suspicion that the real criminals are being protected by those in power. If Zambia is serious about fighting corruption, it must start by holding the perpetrators of the Ndola Lime scandal accountable—no matter how high up the chain they sit.

Zambia cannot afford another cover-up. The time for justice is now.

NO TO POLITICAL VIOLENCE, A CALL FOR JUSTICE AFTER KAWAMBWA BY-ELECTION ATTACKS – CF

NO TO POLITICAL VIOLENCE, A CALL FOR JUSTICE AFTER KAWAMBWA BY-ELECTION ATTACKS – CF

The alarming reports of violence during the Kawambwa by-elections, including the horrific stabbing of PeP President Sean Tembo inside a police station—a symbol of law and order—demand unequivocal condemnation from all Zambians who value peace and democracy. Even more concerning is the impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators, who roam free while justice remains elusive.

This incident is part of a disturbing trend of intimidation against opposition leaders under the UPND government, threatening Zambia’s hard-earned democratic principles. Such actions betray the sacrifices made by past generations to establish a political system based on ideas rather than violence.

Adding to this disillusionment are recent remarks by President Hakainde Hichilema during the UPND’s mobilization launch, where he stated, “It won’t be easy to remove the UPND from power.” While intended to inspire party supporters, this sentiment hints at intolerance and a worrying dismissal of the core democratic principle that political power stems from the will of the people, not coercion or manipulation.

Let us remind those in leadership that power, like a shadow, is transient—it lasts only as long as the light of integrity shines upon it. History has shown that power wielded without humility and fairness is ultimately fleeting.

The violence in Kawambwa must be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible, regardless of their political ties, must be held accountable. Failing to do so undermines public trust in our institutions and fosters the dangerous notion that violence is a legitimate political tool.

We urge all Zambians, civil society organizations, and international partners to unite against these abuses. Together, we must demand justice, accountability, and an end to political violence. Zambia’s future depends on a firm commitment to peaceful, democratic transitions—a nation where power is determined by the ballot, not by fear or intimidation.

Let us protect and uphold the ideals of democracy, ensuring Zambia remains a beacon of peace and freedom in Africa.

Man narrates how his fiancé dumped him two days to their wedding

A Kenyan man, Dave Danson was left in shock and heartbroken after his fiancé cancelled their wedding two days to the ceremony.

Dave shared his story in a Facebook post on December 17, 2024.

According to him, he had been looking forward to the big day slated for October 5, 2024, as well as starting a new journey with his partner, who he met in a church fellowship.

He moved from a man cave to a comfortable family house, paid all the vendors, the venue, and the outfits.

A bridal shower was thrown by his then fiance’s friends while his mother gathered all her friends, the villagers, hired a school bus to come and witness the wedding of her last child.

However, three days to the wedding, his fiancé’s phone calls went unanswered.

Read his story below:

DUMPED TWO DAYS TO MY WEDDING.

Just as I was just about to leave the market, I stepped on a banana peel and was thrown back to onions and cabbages. A little haul of my life as i clear the 2024 hard drives. (long post, get yourself a cup of tea, herbal not verbal.

I met a beautiful lady in a fellowship and we dated enough to take it to the next level. We took a thorough Premarital Counseling Classes for 12 weeks according to our church requirements and we graduated.

Did a beautiful proposal and I got a Yes! if you follow my socials you might have come across the video that was later pulled down.

We took it to another level of parents and dowry payments and we successfully went through it.

Planned for a wedding dated 5th October 2024. Went through all the legal and church requirements. I moved from a man cave to a comfortable family house….Paid all the vendors, the venue and the outfits.

A week to the wedding a beautiful bridal shower was thrown by her friends. My mother gathered all her friends and the villagers, hired a school bus to come witness her last born getting himself a wife. (she was very happy)

All was set for the day but 3 days to the wedding, her phone calls went unanswered (there was no fight no argument whatsoever)

I involved our best couple and their calls went unanswered too. The next day she called for a meeting through the best couple and dropped a bombshell “I want to cancel the wedding”

My heart dropped in the stomach and my saliva dried up. I tried water but the words in my head became ice. We went for hours looking for any reason to have caused that and her final answer was “I Don’t Love Him Anymore and I’m Not Ready To Get Married”…good enough!

As hard it would have been I accepted and the announcement was released that the wedding has been indefinitely called off.

My phone has never received many calls like that week, the parking was flooding with friends and family coming over to check up on me.

The faithfulness of God when He says he’ll never leave us nor forsake us. The peace that surpasses all human understanding…And it’s in that time I realized that my life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3:- that anything to harm me would first go through Christ then God to get me which is impossible!
I’m well covered.

The beauty of belonging to a local church family RATC-Reconciliation at the cross The Hub Of Love that ministers love to a hurting world embraced me with so much love and shielded me from the enemy that prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
My spiritual parents,Rev Benjamin Kasankya and Rev Ndanu Mukisa Kasankya told me, “we love you Danson, you are our son, we’ll hold and walk with you through this. God loves you so much and His purpose in your life is still great. And they’ve kept their word till this very day

Mum Dr. Sarah K music embrace would call and still calls me for hours to know how I’m doing besides her busy schedule (not to mention she was to lead worship in my wedding)

My best couple Pattie Mwangi and Augustine Ninhoo , you guys are exceptional. You guys gave your sweat and blood to make sure everything was successful. Pattie you took all the bullets (God will reward and heal all the wounds)

Willie took me for drives to get me distracted and still do numerous calls to check up on me. I owe you guys. (given another chance I’d choose youMy heart dropped in the stomach and my saliva dried up – Man narrates how his fianc dumped him two days to their wedding)

My therapist who’s making sure that this leaves me a better and not a bitter person. And to everyone who called, texted, sent a motivational video, sermon and scriptures. May God send you a helper in any time of need.

And on the fateful wedding day. My siblings threw a private party to celebrate with me, friends and family. We dressed up the wedding legalia. Ate all the food and the cake and made merry till my eyes couldn’t stay open anymore.

Chamisa promises to unleash a new political wave in 2025

0

Former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has hinted at a significant political resurgence in 2025, promising a transformative “new beginning” for Zimbabwe. Speaking at an end-of-year charity dinner in Harare on Saturday, Chamisa urged his supporters to remain patient, assuring them that his plans will be unveiled at the right time.Starlink internet

The event, held to raise funds for the underprivileged ahead of Christmas, attracted a diverse audience including top lawyers, pastors, civic society leaders, and a few Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators. Tickets for the dinner started at US$50.

Chamisa, who has been politically sidelined after losing control of the CCC to interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu in a contentious power struggle, refrained from sharing detailed plans. However, he hinted at a political strategy set to launch in the new year.

“Next year there are a lot of things that are coming, but we are going to announce them through appropriate channels and times,” said Chamisa. “This is a charity dinner, so I am restraining myself from laying out the plan.”

The former leader of the MDC Alliance, who led the party to the 2018 elections before being ousted, remains politically influential despite his current lack of formal party affiliation. Chamisa vowed to learn from past setbacks and return with renewed vigor.

“We are national and cannot be displaced by small things. If you think you can dislodge us, then you don’t know us,” Chamisa declared. “We study where you have come from and taken advantage of us, and then we come back with vigor.”

He urged his supporters to remain steadfast, emphasizing that their challenges were preparing them for the next chapter. “What we are going through is part of the distillation in the furnace to make sure you are ready for what is supposed to be done,” he said.

Chamisa painted a vision of a transformed Zimbabwe, addressing the current economic and social struggles under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership. He criticized Mnangagwa for plunging Zimbabwe into poverty, citing that 49% of the population lives in abject poverty.Starlink internet

“Zimbabweans are in trouble. Even professors, engineers, doctors, and businesspeople are struggling because of our circumstances,” Chamisa said. He hinted at a “citizen programme” in a “new Zimbabwe” aimed at improving the lives of all citizens.

Chamisa assured his followers that change was imminent, characterizing it as both a political and prophetic shift. “Hold your horses, be patient. The new is coming, and it is big for this country,” he said.

While Chamisa refrained from disclosing specifics, his statements suggest a reinvigorated effort to challenge the status quo and position himself as a central figure in Zimbabwe’s political landscape in 2025.

Pharrell Williams Named UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador In Paris

0

Singer and fashion executive Pharrell Williams has been named goodwill ambassador for artistic education and entrepreneurship by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The recognition reportedly occurred at a Paris ceremony on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Sources say his role would involve promoting initiatives including “the protection of indigenous cultures, the advancement of education and health care for women, and raising awareness about genocide prevention and safeguarding cultural heritage.”

William expressed excitement about the honor saying, “Growing up in Virginia, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be given an opportunity like this one.”

He has pledged to “deepen the sense of unity and togetherness” and work to “even the odds for marginalized communities.”

UNESCO described the Happy composer as “a complete artist [who is] also a humanist who works to put culture at the service of peace and bring people together.

“He believes in the power of creativity and education to build a better future. His commitments resonate with UNESCO’s mandate. I am delighted that he is joining UNESCO’s family of Goodwill Ambassadors today to support our action,” Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO General Director, stated.

The organization said he will serve as a “mentor and role model for young creators, particularly in Africa, where UNESCO supports the development of cultural industries.”

Despite the honors, fans still remember that the artiste caused quite some disappointment after canceling his annual music festival, hours after tickets had started selling.

The Something In the Water concept was planned to take place in October 2024 in Virginia but organizers said the show had been postponed to April 2025.

“Virginia doesn’t deserve better; Virginia deserves the best. So Something In The Water has to match that. It just isn’t ready yet. That’s why we have decided we must postpone this year’s [event]…This is not a Pharrell festival, this is the state of Virginia’s festival, so it has to be the best,” a statement announcing the cancellation said.

Before this, Pharrell also incurred the wrath of some fans for appearing on a television set with sunglasses and a cap.

The producer and fashionista appeared on the November 1 episode of the Graham Norton Show to talk about his Piece By Piece production.

Following the interaction, some fans took offense to his outlook on set and expressed their sentiments on X (formerly Twitter).

Steve Harvey is latest celebrity victim of AI gone wrong, here’s how his death rumor reportedly started

Steve Harvey, the 67-year-old host of “Family Feud,” has become the latest celebrity victim of artificial intelligence mishaps, according to reports.

A death hoax claiming Harvey had passed away circulated widely after a misleading article titled “Steve Harvey Passed Away Today: Remembering The Legacy Of A Comedy Legend” was published on Trend Cast News.

The false report sparked chaos online, as reported by the New York Post. The Steve Harvey death hoax story, initially published by Trend Cast News, later spread to Newsbreak.

The false article had a future publish date of December 19, 2024, according to The Wrap.

“The fake news — which included a future publishing date of Dec. 19, 2024 — was still live on Newsbreak’s site on Wednesday morning,” the website reported.

It is now presumed to be the result of an AI error.

The hoax, initially published by Trend Cast News, was later picked up by Newsbreak with a future publish date of December 19, 2024. Harvey’s representatives are yet to comment on the matter. The 67-year-old “Family Feud” host posted on his social media on Thursday amid the death rumors.

“When you feel like giving up.. DON’T When you thinking bout giving up.. DON’T When it look like you ain’t gone make it.. KEEP GOING,” Harvey wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

While Harvey made no mention of the death hoax, word still got around, sparking confusion online.

“Steve harvey dead?” one X user commented. “They’re saying steve harvey dead,” another replied.

“The internet really need to stop playing with people’s lives. That false ass news about Steve Harvey being dead wrong asf. Smh,” a third wrote.

A Newsbreak App user blamed a “virus” for spreading the hoax.

“Woke up to a notification that Steve Harvey died, went on ‘X’ only to find out it was a virus. Sure enough the virus was on my phone too. That Newsbreak app is beginning to be a problem,” the person commented.

Some have asked Harvey to file a lawsuit over the fake news article that falsely reported his death.

“I don’t care for this dude but I hope he catches wind of this article and sue whoever wrote this article,” one user on Newsbreak wrote, per The Wrap. “You basically wished death on that man out here lying on that man’s soul like that. Ain’t that a [bitch].”

Harvey has been the target of multiple death hoaxes. An earlier rumor in October claimed he had died in a car crash, a rumor that has persisted over the years.

Harvey has addressed rumors of his death before, including in 2023 when he posted a photo of himself scrolling through his phone with the caption, “Me seeing that Rip Harvey is trending.”

Harvey, a father of seven, has been married to his third wife, Marjorie, since 2007.
