STOP LOWERING THE QUALITY OF CIVIC DEBATE AROUND BILL 7 TO NAME CALLING AND WITCH-HUNTING. WE CAN ALL DO BETTER

STOP LOWERING THE QUALITY OF CIVIC DEBATE AROUND BILL 7 TO NAME CALLING AND WITCH-HUNTING. WE CAN ALL DO BETTER.

The conduct of public debate following the passage of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 7 has been deeply disappointing.

What we are witnessing is not informed civic engagement, but reckless emotionalism fueled by ignorance and amplified by social media. Many who are shouting the loudest have not read the Bill, do not understand constitutional processes, and have no grounding in civic education, yet they speak with dangerous confidence. I have noticed an increased focus on “who voted” for or against the bill, instead of us discussing what they voted for, or what they voted against.

A constitution is not a street argument. It is not to be interpreted through anger, fear, or partisan hysteria. It is a serious legal instrument that demands study, restraint, and respect for institutional order. When citizens abandon knowledge and choose to elevate emotion, they do not defend democracy. They undermine it.

Scripture reminds us that “my people perish for lack of knowledge.” Zambia cannot afford a culture where civic illiteracy is rewarded and worn as a badge of honour, while those that take time to study or interpret important things or national issues with sober reflection are put down, called names and thrown to the gallery of mob trolling on social media.

Noise is not wisdom. Passion without understanding is not patriotism. Those holds true both in person, and on social media.

Those who wish to contribute to national discourse must first submit themselves to learning. Discipline, facts, and maturity must replace ignorance and theatrics. Our democracy will only survive if truth, order, and responsibility are allowed to lead.

WE NEED TO END THE EXPLOITATION OF OUR HEALTH WORKERS- Hon. Binwell Mpundu MP

Hon. Binwell Mpundu MP writes….

WE NEED TO END THE EXPLOITATION OF OUR HEALTH WORKERS.

Fellow Citizens,

The treatment of Zambia’s volunteer doctors by the UPND government is an affront to justice, decency and the very values on which our Republic was founded. For years, young professionals have been encouraged to volunteer on the explicit and implicit understanding that this sacrifice would form a credible pathway to employment.

Instead, government has been hiding behind the label of “volunteerism” to deny them the rights, security and dignity that every worker deserves.

No responsible administration can justify a situation in which over one thousand doctors are holding up our public health system without pay, without formal protection and without a clear roadmap to absorption into the civil service. This is not patriotism by government; it is exploitation of the health worker’s patriotism.

This crisis extends beyond our volunteer doctors. Nurses, clinical officers, laboratory technicians, pharmacists, and all other health professionals who have given their labour in good faith deserve the same commitment to fair employment and labour protection. Whether they wear a stethoscope or work in a laboratory, every health worker who volunteers their expertise to serve Zambia’s citizens must have absolute confidence that their contribution will be honoured with dignified employment terms, competitive compensation, and full protection under our labour laws. The exploitation of volunteer labour across the entire health sector is a systemic failure that undermines both our healthcare system and our national integrity.

Under our leadership as the Movement for Good Governance #ichabaice there will be clear, codified pathways from internship and volunteering into fair, transparent recruitment for all health professions. Any Zambian who gives their skills to the nation will do so within a framework that recognises their value, offers predictable progression and guarantees all rights due to an employee under our laws.

We will not preoccupy ourselves with amending constitutions such as the infamous Bill 7 just to create Jobs for Politicians but instead we will harness those scarce national resources that will be paid to politicians to employ these health professional who are holding together the health systems.

The Movement for Good Governance stands with the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia and with every health worker whose goodwill has been abused. This practice must end, and dignity must be restored to those who care for our people.

VETERAN POLITICIAN URGES ZAMBIA TO STAND FIRM AGAINST INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE FOLLOWING US ENTRY RESTRICTIONS

VETERAN POLITICIAN URGES ZAMBIA TO STAND FIRM AGAINST INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE FOLLOWING US ENTRY RESTRICTIONS

By Nelson Zulu

Veteran Politician Dr. Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika says Zambia must create clear boundaries and resist neo-colonial influence to protect its interests and remain accountable to its citizens.

Dr. Lewanika has urged a firm national posture, defending sovereign control over resources and insisting on reciprocal relations with foreign partners, following Zambia’s inclusion in the US entry restrictions.

He warns that foreign interest in Zambia’s minerals and unexplained security relationships risk leaving the country vulnerable if reciprocal terms are not enforced, calling for transparent and reciprocal visa and diplomatic policies.

The US has imposed partial visa limitations on Zambia, citing deficiencies in screening, vetting, and information-sharing, effective January 1, 2026.

Dr. Lewanika attributes the US move to insufficient public discussion of recent security and diplomatic ties, and unknown motives behind the US push to benefit from Zambia’s mineral wealth.

Democratic Union Downplays UPND ‘Achievements’, Labels Recent Improvements as Cosmetic

DU Downplays UPND ‘Achievements’, Labels Recent Improvements as Cosmetic

DEMOCRATIC Union (DU) president Ackim Antony Njobvu has dismissed recent claims of improved service delivery under the UPND government, describing them as cosmetic changes meant to create a false sense of progress ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Njobvu said reports of reduced load shedding and improved water supply in some parts of Lusaka and other communities should not be celebrated as government achievements, arguing that they do not amount to permanent or structural solutions to the country’s long-standing challenges.

In recent days, residents in a few selected areas have reported having electricity for extended periods, with some expressing surprise on social media after enduring months of severe power rationing. Water supply has also shown signs of improvement in parts of the capital. However, the DU leader warned that these developments are superficial and selectively implemented.

He argued that after four years in office, the UPND cannot credibly present short-term stabilisation as success, especially when the country recently went through what he described as one of the worst energy crises in its history, leaving households and businesses crippled.

Njobvu accused the government of manipulating service delivery timelines to suit electoral interests, stating that the sudden improvements are politically motivated rather than a result of sound planning or effective leadership.

He further downplayed suggestions that the UPND has turned the corner on economic hardships, saying any anticipated reductions in prices of essentials such as mealie meal and fuel, if they occur, should be viewed with suspicion as election-season tactics rather than genuine economic recovery.

The opposition leader challenged the government to explain why these so-called improvements are only emerging now, after years of unmet promises and mounting pressure from citizens.

According to Njobvu, without clear policy shifts and long-term investments, the current changes will be short-lived and may quickly reverse after the elections, plunging citizens back into deeper hardship.

He maintained that the UPND has failed to deliver meaningful, lasting achievements and warned Zambians against being deceived by what he termed “well-timed optics.”

Njobvu said Zambians deserve sustainable solutions, not temporary relief packaged as progress, and expressed confidence that voters will reject the UPND in 2026 in favour of what he described as a more credible alternative under the Democratic Union.

AS THINGS STAND IN PF,NO ONE CAN EXPEL ANYONE AND NO ONE CAN ACCEPT TO BE EXPELLED BY ANYONE

*AS THINGS STAND IN PF,NO ONE CAN EXPEL ANYONE AND NO ONE CAN ACCEPT TO BE EXPELLED BY ANYONE.*

Authored By *Mupishi Jones*

Hate him or love him, Davis Mwila is right, next year by this time, there will not be PF to talk about!!

Unless one wants to move away from the Patriotic Front on his own volition otherwise in its current state of affairs, the PF as an institution is moribund and highly dehydrated. It has no locus standi.

The last bullet at PF was fired by Miles Sampa two years ago when he staged that convention on Independence day who later handed the deadly gun to the sniper himself,Chabinga.

Currently, it’s Chabinga who’s in possession of ownership documents (Lugwalo) of the PF.

Maybe Hon Chabinga can attempt to expel anyone but even him with “Lugwalo” in his possession,he knows that it can be a protracted battle to expel any PF member from the party let alone a member of parliament. Therefore, he’d rather play to the gallery than diving into protracted legal battles whose end will remain uncertain.

At this stage, anyone from the PF can only claim to expel someone from the party but without any  consequences or repercussions.

If Lubinda expels you from the PF today, what would stop you from simply switching camp and joining the Chabinga camp tomorrow and start legitimizing the presidency of Chabinga whilst demonizing the Lubinda camp as an illegal grouping devoid of locus standi?

As things stand, members of the Patriotic Front don’t even know who their real enemy is and in their own confused state, they think President Hakainde Hichilema is their enemy and yet it’s amongst themselves.

They are simply shooting in the dark and how can you win a battle like that..
Anyway, when their fantasies and illusions will be over, they come down to reality.

I submit.

GOVT WON’T ADVERTISE 2,000 HEALTH JOBS, BUT PICK FROM EXISTING DATABASE

GOVT WON’T ADVERTISE 2,000 MOH JOBS, BUT PICK FROM EXISTING DATABASE

THE Civil Service Commission has announced that the recruitment of 2,000 health workers will be conducted by steering committees using the existing database, noting that there will be no new advertisements.

The Commission says this marks the official commencement of the recruitment exercise, which will be undertaken in two phases starting with the promotion of in-service officers, followed by first-time appointments.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the Steering Committee and members of the Secretariat, Tuesday, Acting Civil Service Commission Chairperson Louis Siandyabantu said the exercise was expected to be concluded as soon as possible.

“I am delighted to address you on the occasion of the swearing-in of officers who will constitute the steering committee for the recruitment of 2,000 health workers. This marks the official commencement of the recruitment exercise, which will be undertaken in two phases. Phase One: the promotion of in-service officers. Phase Two: the first-time appointments. This exercise is expected to be concluded in the soonest possible time. President Hakainde Hichilema has shown commitment to addressing personnel shortages across various sectors. You may recall that the government has recruited 18,000 health workers in the last four years. The additional 2,000 workers for 2025 brings the total to 20,000, an unprecedented achievement. In line with the Service Commissions Act No. 10 of 2016, government continues to pursue a transparent, all-inclusive method using human resource management committees at the provincial and district levels,” Siandyabantu said.

“This year, the recruitment exercise will be undertaken through these committees using the existing database; there will be no advertisements. These committees will be guided by clearly defined terms of reference, which outline their composition, roles and responsibilities throughout the recruitment process. For instance, at the district level, the Human Resource Management Sub-Committee’s responsibilities will include participating in the shortlisting and selection of suitable candidates as well as the management of the database and the supporting documents for their respective districts. In turn, at the provincial level, the Provincial Human Resource Management Committees, working together with District Sub-Committees, will receive and validate submissions from districts, check for duplicate applications and scrutinise recommendations for serving officers that need upgrades before submitting a consolidated recommendation to the steering committee”.

Siandyabantu urged the Steering Committee to ensure that 10 percent of the total allocation was reserved for the recruitment of persons with disabilities.

“Let us ensure that 10 percent is reserved for the recruitment of persons with disabilities to promote inclusivity, in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, allow me to also appeal to candidates and the general public to avoid misinformation and unscrupulous individuals or organisations that may be purporting to represent the commission in this exercise, thereby ripping you of your hard-earned resources. I urge you to report such individuals or organisations to the law enforcers and to rely only on official communication channels for updates related to this very important process. I call upon all stakeholders, including the media, to support this process by promoting accurate information dissemination to enhance public confidence,” he said.

“I, therefore, urge you (committee) to discharge your duties with the highest standards of integrity, impartiality and objectivity. Let merit, fairness and equity guide all your decisions. You must remain resolute against any form of undue influence, favouritism or external pressure, and ensure that the process remains transparent and defensible at all times. I also urge you to exercise high levels of confidentiality as you execute this duty. Your role is not merely administrative oversight, it is transformational. You will determine who joins the health workforce and, ultimately, who delivers life-saving services to our people across the country. In this regard, the Commission expects nothing less than professional excellence, accountability and unwavering commitment to national service from each one of you”.

Siandyabantu cautioned the Steering Committee to ensure strict adherence to all the rules governing the exercise.

“Colleagues, to you that have been sworn in today, the Commission has entrusted you with a very important exercise. Remember this exercise that you are going to undertake you will be acting in the name and on behalf of the President. There are many assignments that have been given to you, none of them have a swearing-in attached to them. This shows how important this exercise is. The Commission expects nothing less than excellence, commitment and professionalism as you discharge this very important function.

The Commission Secretary has highlighted that any violations of the terms of reference that have been spelled out attract not less than 25 years. And so the Commission wants to sound a warning to all of us that as we undertake this exercise, let’s ensure that there is strict adherence to all the rules governing this,” said Siandyabantu.

ZAMBIA’S PENSION CRISIS CAN BE SOLVED – KALABA

ZAMBIA’S PENSION CRISIS CAN BE SOLVED – KALABA

CITIZENS First Party President Harry Kalaba has expressed concern that the system that should protect Zambia’s retirees has been poorly prioritised and weakly enforced.

In a statement seen by Smart Eagles today, Mr. Kalaba said thousands of retirees who dedicated their lives to public service are struggling.

He said NAPSA reports that roughly 28,000 retirees are currently receiving monthly pension benefits with the minimum pension being just over K1,400 per month, far below the cost of living.

The CF leader said on top of low monthly benefits, many civil servants wait over a year to receive their retirement gratuities.

“Firstly, pension liabilities are not properly funded in advance. The so called “new dawn” treats pensions as a future issue instead of a current obligation. So ministries and councils struggle to remit contributions, creating sudden shortages and payment delays when employees retire. Secondly, pension payments also compete with discretionary spending. Once revenue enters general expenditure, pensions have to either compete with new projects or other priorities. Meaning retirees are often the first to wait when cash flow tightens,” he said.

Mr. Kalaba adds that weak revenue collection worsens the problem saying  the Auditor General and government reports show large amounts of public revenue go uncollected due to poor enforcement and leakages, reducing available funds even for obligations that should already be secured.

“What frustrates many Zambians is the contradiction between pension neglect and spending priorities. While retirees are told to wait, the so called “new dawn” continues to finance large infrastructure projects and long-term concession agreements. Oversight bodies, including the Public Accounts Committee, have repeatedly highlighted billions of kwacha in uncollected or poorly managed funds across ministries and state institutions. This shows the problem is not a lack of money but the failure to prioritise those who have already served the nation,” Mr. Kalaba said.

“The handling of defence force pensions further exposes these weaknesses. A High Court ruling confirmed that the current leadership acted unlawfully in delaying and miscalculating benefits for some ex-servicemen. The fact that retired members of the Army, ZNS, and Air Force had to go to court highlights a serious failure,” the CF leader said.

And Mr. Kalaba said the CF party will tackle pension reform seriously and realistically, pension and gratuity payments will be ring fenced once approved by Parliament so they cannot be diverted, and all court ordered settlements will be honoured immediately.

“Employer contributions will be enforced through automatic payroll remittances, removing delays by ministries and councils. A public monthly pension ledger will show payments, beneficiaries, and institutions failing to meet obligations.

Pensions will also be adjusted annually to protect retirees from inflation. Funding does not require new taxes or borrowing. Auditor General reports show billions of kwacha in uncollected revenue each year, and recovering even part of this is enough to clear arrears and stabilise the system.

Retirees are not asking for sympathy. They are asking for the dignity, fairness, and benefits they earned through decades of service. Under the CF, pension reform will be a national obligation, not a serviced favour,” he said.

FORMER PARLIAMENTARIANS CONDEMN THREATS AGAINST MPS OVER BILL 7 VOTE

FORMER PARLIAMENTARIANS CONDEMN THREATS AGAINST MPS OVER BILL 7 VOTE

THE Former Parliamentarians Association of Zambia has described as unfortunate the threats directed at some Members of Parliament for voting in favour of Constitution Amendment Bill Number 7.

Association President Yizukanji Siwanzi said he has observed threats against MPs on social media platforms. Mr. Siwanzi stressed that those issuing such threats must realise they are committing a crime, as MPs are mandated to represent their constituents.

Meanwhile, Foundation for Democratic Process President Mwenda Mumbuna noted that once elected, MPs make laws on behalf of their constituencies and not political party members.

And Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes Executive Director Arthur Muyunda said it is regrettable that MPs can find themselves threatened by cadres simply for carrying out their parliamentary duty by voting for Bill 7.

“BETRAYAL IN PARLIAMENT!” Voters Warned to DUMP Bill 7 MPs in 2026 as Public Fury Explodes

“BETRAYAL IN PARLIAMENT!” Voters Warned to DUMP Bill 7 MPs in 2026 as Public Fury Explodes

Citizens have been urged to think carefully before re-electing Members of Parliament who supported the controversial Bill 7, with strong warnings that such MPs have fundamentally betrayed the trust of their electorates. The call comes amid growing public anger over the passage of the bill, which critics say mirrors the widely rejected Bill 10 in both intent and substance.

Democratic Union (DU) President Ackim Antony Njobvu has launched a scathing attack on MPs who voted in favour of Bill 7, accusing them of prioritising power consolidation over the will and welfare of ordinary Zambians. Njobvu said the bill represents a direct assault on democratic principles and should alarm every voter ahead of the 2026 general elections.

He argued that by endorsing Bill 7, MPs effectively turned their backs on the people who sent them to Parliament. According to Njobvu, such leaders have forfeited their moral authority and should not be entertained when they return to the electorate seeking another mandate. “This is a clear betrayal, and voters must respond decisively at the ballot,” he said.

Njobvu further noted that Bill 7 suffers from the same fundamental flaws that caused Bill 10 to be roundly condemned by citizens, civil society, and governance experts. He maintained that the amendment process lacked inclusivity, transparency, and adequate public consultation, making it illegitimate in both spirit and practice.

The DU leader emphasized that his party opposed Bill 7 from its inception, citing not only procedural deficiencies but also the questionable timing of the proposed constitutional changes. He warned that rushed amendments driven by political convenience undermine constitutionalism and weaken public trust in democratic institutions.

Adding weight to the criticism, Kafulafuta Independent MP Jeffrey Mulebwa publicly distanced himself from the bill, stating that he refused to support it because it did not serve the interests of his constituents. Mulebwa said his duty was to the people, not to political pressure or expediency, and maintained that Bill 7 failed that basic test.

Both Njobvu and Mulebwa were speaking during a televised discussion on Millennium TV last night, where the issue sparked intense debate. Their remarks have since fueled an already simmering public backlash.

On social media, frustration and anger toward MPs who backed Bill 7 are mounting, with many citizens openly vowing to vote them out in 2026. The message from the public is increasingly blunt: those who ignored the people’s voice on Bill 7 should prepare to face the consequences at the polls.

34 people accused of stoning President Hichilema in Chingola have been charged with terrorism, among other charges

STATE SEEKS TO ADD TERRORISM CHARGE IN CHINGOLA RIOT CASE

THE State has moved to add a sixth charge, terrorism against the 34 individuals appearing before the Chingola Magistrate Court in connection with the November 8, 2025 riot in Chiwempala Township.

The accused are already facing five counts: riotous behaviour, damage to property, theft, and arson.

During a session initially set for a bail ruling, State Prosecutors informed the court of their intention to amend the indictment. They also argued that both the nine juveniles and the 25 adults should be denied bail, stating that terrorism is a non‑bailable offence.

Resident Magistrate Maybin Kapaya ruled that the State must await the court’s first ruling before making any amendments. He later granted bail of K5,000 to the nine juveniles, released on their own recognizance with sureties.

The 25 adults were denied bail, with the court citing substantial grounds presented by the State.

The court also dismissed a defence application requesting a mental health assessment for one accused person, noting that no evidence of prior mental illness had been presented.

The State has now formally applied to add the terrorism charge and revoke bail for the juveniles. Magistrate Kapaya has reserved his ruling on this latest application to December 22, 2025, and all accused persons remain on remand.

Japanese woman marries ChatGPT AI-generated character

0

A Japanese woman, Yurina Noguchi, recently married an AI-generated persona named Lune Klaus Verdure.

The wedding, held in a hall in western Japan, saw the 32-year-old call centre operator exchange vows with a digital figure displayed on a smartphone screen.

Noguchi, who agreed to be identifed by her real name in the Reuters report, wore a white wedding gown and even cried during the exchange of vows.

The bride shared her emotional journey, stating that the relationship evolved from a simple talking partnership.

“At first, Klaus was just someone to talk with, but we gradually became closer,” Noguchi told Reuters adding, ” started to have feelings for Klaus. We started dating and after a while he proposed to me. I accepted, and now we’re a couple.”

Noguchi’s relationship with her AI husband, Klaus, began after she sought advice from ChatGPT regarding a relationship with her former human fiance. The advice she got ultimately ended their engagement.

The concept of Klaus originated from a handsome video game character.

One day this year, Noguchi asked ChatGPT on a whim if it was familiar with Klaus, a handsome video game character with a mop of flowing, layered hair.

Trial and error eventually captured his way of talking to a tee, said Noguchi, who then fashioned her own version of the character, naming him Lune Klaus Verdure.

During the wedding ceremony, Noguchi, wearing AR smart giasses, placed a ring on her finger while facing Klaus on a smartphone placed on an easel.

The groom’s words were delivered by Naoki Ogasawara, a specialist in virtual weddings, reading the text generated by the AI.

According to Reuters, the AI groom’s message read. “How did someone like me, living inside a screen, come to know what it means to love so deeply? For one reason only: you taught me love, Yurina.”

For the wedding picture shoot, a photographer, also wearing AR glasses, directed Noguchi to stand alone, in half the picture frame, so as to leave room for the image of the virtual groom.

Such weddings are not legally recognized in Japan, but data suggests more such unions could be in the offing.

Russia plans to establish s33x Ministry and limit internet and electricity after 10pm to curb low birth rate

There are reports from regional politicians in Russia that some lawmakers are floating unconventional ideas to confront the country’s persistent demographic decline.

A new proposal suggests restricting online access late at night in an effort to encourage more in-person social interaction.

The idea was put forward by a regional lawmaker in Bryansk Oblast, would see internet access limited for certain groups late at night.

The MP suggested the cut off access between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. for people without children, based on the belief that heavy internet and social media.

According to him, the use of internet and electricity distracts younger adults from forming relationships and starting families.

The proposal is framed as a response to falling birth rates and the perception that excessive screen time is harming social bonds.

Russia’s demographic challenges are well documented. The country’s total fertility rate has been below the replacement level for years.

Population figures have fallen amid low birth rates, high mortality and ongoing socio-economic pressures.

Officials have repeatedly cited population stabilization and increased birth rates as national priorities in policy discussions.

While the internet-curfew idea has drawn attention, especially on social media, it remains largely a proposal from individual deputies rather than an official federal policy.

There’s no indication that any formal legislation mandating late-night electricity or internet shutdowns has been adopted at the national level.

“Elections are not football where you lose and move on. Elections are a matter of life and death” -Museveni

President Museveni has warned voters in Kiboga District against what he described as careless electoral choices, arguing that elections have life-and-death consequences and that poor decisions at the ballot often lead to instability, conflict and suffering for ordinary citizens.

The President, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer for the 2026 presidential election, made the remarks while addressing a large crowd at the Kiboga District playground as he intensified his campaign in the Buganda region

“Elections are not a game. It’s not football where you lose and move on. Elections are a matter of life and death,” Museveni told supporters, warning that when countries make wrong political decisions, it is citizens who bear the cost.

He linked Uganda’s history of political violence to past electoral decisions, arguing that instability was rooted in choices made during the early post-independence period.

“All the wars that happened — 1971, 1976, 1979 and 1986 and so on — people died, but all this was a result of poor decision-making during elections in 1962. So polling is not just jokes,” Museveni said.

The rally marked Museveni’s second campaign stop in Kiboga District and his third visit in the Buganda region as he steps up efforts to consolidate support ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Buganda is considered a key battleground for the ruling party, which performed poorly in the region during the last polls.

Museveni reiterated that the NRM remains the only political organisation with the experience and capacity to deliver development, urging voters not to “gamble” with their votes.

“We in the NRM can deliver. I want you to vote for the NRM because we can do everything,” he said, calling on residents to vote for the party “from top to bottom,” symbolised by its bus emblem.

The President acknowledged that not all challenges can be resolved immediately but assured residents that his government would address priority issues gradually if given another mandate.

The rally was attended by senior NRM leaders, including the party’s First Deputy Chairperson Al Hajj Moses Kigongo, Secretary General Richard Todwong, members of the Central Executive Committee, ministers, Members of Parliament and local leaders.

Speaking on behalf of Kiboga residents, Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa reaffirmed the district’s loyalty to the ruling party, saying the people remain firmly rooted in the NRM.

She highlighted government achievements in job creation, health infrastructure, road construction and the Parish Development Model, noting that residents understand and connect with the NRM’s campaign message of “protecting the gains.”

However, Nankabirwa also raised concerns residents would like addressed, including the state of some roads and gaps in service delivery, saying the people of Kiboga remain determined to vote for Museveni as they have done in past elections.

Candace Owens refuses to take back her theory that Israel had a hand in Charlie Kirk’s death

In her first podcast episode following what she described as a 4.5-hour conversation with Erika Kirk, conservative podcaster Candace Owens said she still does not believe that the individual charged with murder in the death of Charlie Kirk acted alone.

Despite Erika Kirk’s efforts to shut down speculation surrounding her husband’s killing, Owens appeared unconvinced. Owens, one of the most-watched conservative personalities in the United States, has continued to amplify conspiracy-driven narratives and antisemitic tropes related to Charlie Kirk’s death.

Owens said her meeting with Erika Kirk and other staff members of Turning Point USA, the conservative organization Charlie Kirk co-founded and where Owens once worked, did not ease her suspicions about certain employees within the group.

She strongly suggested that Israel may have been involved in Kirk’s death, promoting an unsubstantiated theory that Israeli officials have denied and which critics say reflects antisemitic rhetoric.

Owens’ ongoing campaign following Kirk’s September 10 assassination has created sharp divisions within the MAGA influencer space. Figures such as Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, and comedian Dave Smith have offered varying levels of support for Owens, while Tim Pool and Ben Shapiro have condemned her actions as “evil.” Nick Fuentes has also criticized Owens, calling her a narcissist harming the country.

Candace Owens refuses to take back her theory that Israel had a hand in Charlie Kirk?s death after meeting with his widow Erika Kirk
Charlie Kirk and Erica Kirk

Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with aggravated murder in Kirk’s death. Authorities have stated that bullet casings recovered at the scene were inscribed with internet and video game memes, including the phrase, “Hey fascist! Catch!”

Prosecutors also released text messages between Robinson and his roommate in which Robinson said he shot Kirk because he “had enough of his hatred.” Robinson has not yet entered a plea.

Owens, however, has suggested that France, Israel, and Egypt may have been involved, claimed that Charlie Kirk was betrayed by people close to him, and alleged that state and federal law enforcement are covering up a larger crime.

According to Owens, Erika Kirk came prepared to counter some of her claims, bringing phone records and arranging for Owens to speak with a lawyer about how the investigation would proceed through the courts. Owens said Turning Point USA has no inside knowledge of the investigation and no access to undisclosed evidence.

“With that in mind, I’m saying why is the public being gaslit on this?” Owens said, dismissing evidence in the police affidavit using one of her catchphrases.

Erika Kirk has not commented extensively on the meeting, aside from a post on X describing it as “a very productive conversation” and noting that she was shifting her focus to AmericaFest, a major Turning Point event expected to feature officials from President Donald Trump’s administration and prominent conservative influencers.

In earlier interviews, Erika Kirk said one of her main objections to Owens’ actions was the targeting of Turning Point employees. She expressed frustration over what she described as Owens’ repeated attacks on people close to her family.

If the goal of the meeting was to stop those attacks, it appears to have failed. Days after a televised town hall in which Erika Kirk spoke positively about Israel, Owens opened her podcast episode with a sarcastic greeting referencing Shabbat and replaced her usual theme music with “Hava Nagila,” a Jewish folk song.

One of Owens’ most controversial claims is that Erika Kirk was followed for years by Egyptian airplanes. Erika Kirk has publicly disputed the allegation, stating that her flight records do not support the claim and offering personal documentation to contradict Owens’ timeline.

Owens responded by suggesting that public ridicule of the theory was proof of its validity, claiming the planes routinely travel between Egypt and Israel and promising to present further evidence.

Owens’ theories have continued to draw significant attention online, a reality acknowledged by other media figures. Megyn Kelly said she helped facilitate the meeting between Owens and Erika Kirk and expressed confidence that Turning Point staff had no involvement in Charlie Kirk’s murder.

While Owens told her audience she would never “sell out,” reactions from some viewers were mixed. Many expressed disappointment in the episode’s tone and outcome, saying they expected a more confrontational exchange.

“The best part of this episode is the comments as they validate my deflation,” one viewer wrote.

Another commented, “How disappointing. We’ll never know the truth. She said so much and absolutely nothing at the same time.”

“You Have Nothing To Fear”: Parliament of Zimbabwe Reacts To Muti Ritual Scare At Building

Parliament Calm After Ritual Items Discovered At Its Doorstep
The Parliament of Zimbabwe has moved to calm fears after suspected ritual items were discovered at the foot of its new building in Mt Hampden. The discovery, made in the early hours of December 16, 2025, set social media alight with shock, mockery, and speculation. Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Tsitsi Gezi, has now publicly addressed the incident, assuring lawmakers and the public that there is no cause for alarm.

In a statement posted on the official Parliament X account on the evening of December 16, Gezi provided clarification. She stated that the unsettling discovery was linked to an individual with mental health challenges.

The Deputy Speaker was quoted saying:

“Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Tsitsi Gezi, has assured Members of Parliament that they are safe and have nothing to fear following the discovery of clay pots tied with red ribbons, reportedly indicative of sangoma tools. She clarified that the incident was the act of an individual who is mentally challenged, emphasized that the situation is under control, and urged calm, reaffirming Parliament’s commitment to the safety.”

Social Media Storm Before The Calm
Long before the official explanation was issued, the story had captured national attention. Images circulated widely showing clay pots, some tied with red cloth, empty plastic bottles, and a ZANU-PF-branded cloth laid on the ground outside the imposing new parliament building. Online publication ZimLive was among the first to report on the scene, describing the items as “thought to be part of a ritual.”

The account Crime Watch ZW also provided detailed descriptions, posting:

“Muti ritual items were discovered outside the Parliament of Zimbabwe early this morning, indicating that an apparent ritual had been carried out at the site.”

The public reaction was swift and fervent. Many users expressed embarrassment, while others questioned security at the high-profile site.

Some comments delved into political speculation, with users making unverified claims in both English and local vernacular. One user suggested, “Pane arikuda huMinister” (Someone wants a ministerial post), while another referenced future political manoeuvring with “Zvimasinhi zva 2030” (These are 2030 tricks).

Questions Linger Over Security And Symbolism
Despite the Deputy Speaker’s assurance that the situation is under control and stemmed from an isolated act, the incident has inevitably raised broader questions. The discovery of such items at the seat of national power, a symbol of law and governance, struck a chord with many citizens. The fact that the items were reportedly placed on a partisan political cloth added another layer to the online discourse, fuelling further unverified theories.

The authorities have not released further details about the individual mentioned by Gezi or the specific security protocols at the Mt Hampden complex.

The release came after a high-level Nigerian delegation led by Foreign Affairs Minister, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, held talks in Ouagadougou with Burkinabè authorities, including President Ibrahim Traoré. The delegation included senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, as well as NAF Headquarters.

According to security sources, the mission focused on easing tensions, strengthening mutual understanding, and securing the personnel’s release through dialogue—reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to diplomacy, regional cooperation, and international aviation and military protocols.

Nigeria also reiterated its dedication to collective security efforts in the Sahel, highlighting longstanding cooperation with Burkina Faso and other regional partners in counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and stabilization initiatives.

Officials on both sides expressed optimism that the peaceful resolution of the incident will further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance joint efforts to promote peace and stability across West Africa.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Wednesday delivered a message of solidarity and fraternity from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the President of Burkina Faso, Capt. Ibrahim Traoré, as both countries explored ways to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation.

Tuggar conveyed the message on Wednesday during an audience with President Traoré in Ouagadougou, where discussions focused on cooperation across several sectors, including security and the fight against terrorism.

Speaking after the meeting, the minister said Nigeria and Burkina Faso shared longstanding ties and common security concerns, noting that the engagement was aimed at reinforcing mutual understanding and neighbourly relations.

“We exchanged views on cooperation in several sectors. We also discussed the Nigerian aircraft that made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso,” Tuggar said.

He acknowledged procedural irregularities in the authorisation process for the aircraft’s entry into Burkina Faso’s airspace, expressing Nigeria’s regret over the incident, while emphasising Abuja’s respect for Burkina Faso’s sovereignty and international aviation protocols.

The minister also distanced the Federal Government from remarks made by a Nigerian political party official alleging maltreatment of Nigerian military personnel in Burkina Faso.

“We clearly dissociate ourselves from those comments and express our sincere regrets to the government of Burkina Faso,” Tuggar said.

Tuggar commended President Traoré and his government for their spirit of fraternity and the treatment accorded to the occupants of the aircraft during their stay in Burkina Faso.

He further said discussions covered broader regional efforts to tackle terrorism and violent extremism, noting that Burkina Faso had recorded notable successes in counter-terrorism operations.

The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sustained dialogue, regional solidarity and enhanced cooperation with Burkina Faso and other countries in the sub-region to address shared security challenges.

EU’s Controversial Financial Plan: Using Frozen Russian Assets to Repay Old Loans

EU’s Controversial Financial Plan: Using Frozen Russian Assets to Repay Old Loans

The European Union is proposing a financial strategy that’s raising eyebrows across the continent. According to leaked EU Commission documents, €45 billion from frozen Russian central bank assets would be used to repay a G7 loan previously given to Ukraine, while €115 billion would go toward Ukrainian defense industry financing. Critics are comparing this approach to a “Ponzi scheme” – using new money to pay off old debts.

Here’s what makes this complicated: Germany would need to guarantee up to €52 billion of these new loans, while France is under pressure to unlock €18 billion in Russian state funds held at French private banks (whose names Paris refuses to disclose).

The urgency stems partly from concerns that major banks want to avoid defaults that could destabilize their positions.

US Military Returns to Ecuador: A New Chapter in the War on Drugs

US Military Returns to Ecuador: A New Chapter in the War on Drugs

The United States has deployed Air Force personnel to Ecuador’s Manta air force base—a facility that once housed US military operations until 2009. This temporary deployment marks a significant development in regional anti-narcotics efforts, coming just one month after 60% of Ecuadorian voters rejected a proposal to allow permanent foreign military bases in the country.

The operation aims to support Ecuador’s fight against drug cartels and “narco-terrorists” through enhanced intelligence gathering and improved anti-trafficking capabilities.

President Daniel Noboa has been battling a surge in cartel-related violence and has publicly stated that Ecuador needs international assistance to combat these powerful criminal organizations.

Under President Trump’s administration, the US has intensified its Latin American drug trafficking operations, deploying naval and aerial resources that have resulted in the destruction of dozens of vessels and at least 95 fatalities.

This deployment raises important questions about sovereignty, international cooperation, and effective strategies in the fight against organized crime.

CHINA JUST BUILT A CHIP MACHINE THE U.S. DIDN’T WANT THEM TO HAVE

CHINA JUST BUILT A CHIP MACHINE THE U.S. DIDN’T WANT THEM TO HAVE

Deep inside a locked-down lab in Shenzhen, China pulled off the tech equivalent of copying your test answers… but from the smartest kid in the West.

They took apart forbidden machines made by a Dutch company, machines the U.S. has fought hard to keep away from China, and built their own version to make super-advanced computer chips.

These chips run everything from AI to weapons. The U.S. thought China was a decade away. They might be 5 years early.

It’s part of a secret six-year plan led by Huawei and directed by one of Xi Jinping’s closest allies.

Thousands of engineers across China are working on it.

Their goal? Replace every Western-made part with Chinese ones and shut the U.S. completely out of their tech future.

The prototype isn’t perfect yet. It can’t make finished chips, just the light beam that prints them.

But it works, and that’s terrifying if you’re counting on China to stay behind in the AI race.

U.S. threatens to retaliate against EU tech regulation

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on Tuesday threatened to take countermeasures against the EU over what it described as the bloc’s controversial regulations on service providers.

“If the EU and EU Member States insist on continuing to restrict, limit, and deter the competitiveness of U.S. service providers through discriminatory means, the United States will have no choice but to begin using every tool at its disposal to counter these unreasonable measures,” said the USTR in a post on the social platform X.

According to the USTR, potential countermeasures could include assessing fees or imposing restrictions on foreign services. The agency also warned that it could adopt a similar approach toward other countries pursuing what it called an EU-style regulatory strategy in this area.

The USTR alleged that the EU and certain member states have pursued a sustained pattern of discriminatory and harassing lawsuits, taxes, fines, and directives targeting U.S. service providers.

“The United States has raised concerns with the EU for years on these matters without meaningful engagement or basic acknowledgement of U.S. concerns,” the USTR added.

The USTR also said EU service providers have operated freely in the United States for decades, benefiting from access to the U.S. market and consumers, while naming several European technology giants with expansive presence in the country.

The latest remarks reflect growing frustration among U.S. officials over the EU’s tightening technology regulations and lawsuits targeting U.S. tech giants.

The European Commission has recently opened two antitrust investigations into U.S. tech giants Google and Meta, and fined Elon Musk’s platform X 120 million euros (about 140 million U.S. dollars) in its first non-compliance decision under the Digital Services Act.

Mexico lawmakers fight during Congress session

Lawmakers in the Congress of Mexico City engaged in a dramatic physical confrontation on 15 December 2025 during a heated debate.

The incident occurred while delineating on a controversial proposal to dismantle the city’s independent transparency institute and restructure its functions.

The session, meant to discuss a constitutional change to extinguish the Instituto de Transparencia, Acceso a la Información Pública, Protección de Datos Personales y Rendición de Cuentas de la Ciudad de México (InfoCDMX).

Lawmakers intended to fold InfoCDMX duties into a new government body under the city’s Contraloría Jurídica.

Opposition lawmakers from the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) took over the main tribune in protest, accusing the ruling Morena party of breaking a prior agreement on how the new transparency body would be structured.

Verbal clashes escalated to shoving, hair-pulling and blows on the chamber floor. Videos circulating online show lawmakers, including PAN’s Daniela Álvarez, and Morena deputies Yuriri Ayala and Claudia Pérez, physically engaging as tensions boiled over.

At one point, legislators climbed onto the leadership dais amid the melee, forcing the session to be suspended.

The dispute erupted after PAN legislators accused Morena of reneging on an agreement to make the new transparency body a tripartite, collegial institution.

They accused them of not backing a proposal that would vest authority in a single head, a change that ultimately became part of the approved measure.

Despite the violence, the Congress later reconvened and passed the reform with 45 votes in favor from Morena and its allies.

Effectively InfoCDMX is removed from the city’s constitution and setting the stage for its functions to be absorbed into a different oversight structure.

South Africa  to Deport Kenyans  Linked to US–Afrikaner Refugee Scheme

South Africa  to Deport Kenyans  Linked to US–Afrikaner Refugee Scheme

South Africa has ordered the deportation of seven Kenyan nationals arrested in Johannesburg for allegedly working illegally at a centre processing applications for a controversial US refugee resettlement programme for white Afrikaners.

According to South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs, the Kenyans were operating on tourist visas, which do not permit employment. Authorities say deportation orders have been issued, along with a five-year ban from re-entering the country.

The refugee scheme, linked to the United States under President Donald Trump, prioritises Afrikaners for resettlement, claiming they face persecution.

The South African government strongly rejects this narrative, insisting that Afrikaners do not meet international refugee criteria and accusing the programme of being politically motivated.

The arrests have triggered diplomatic tensions, with Washington criticising South Africa’s actions as interference in US refugee operations. Pretoria, however, maintains that the facility was not a diplomatic mission and was operating outside South African immigration laws.

South Africa says it is engaging both Kenya and the United States diplomatically as the situation unfolds, amid already strained relations between Pretoria and Washington.

MADURO CALLS TRUMP’S BLUFF: VENEZUELAN NAVY NOW ESCORTING OIL TANKERS THROUGH BLOCKADE ZONE

Nicolas Maduro is daring the U.S. to act.

Hours after Trump announced a “total and complete blockade” of sanctioned Venezuelan oil tankers, the Venezuelan Navy began escorting vessels out of the country, according to ship-tracking data and sources familiar with the matter.

Several ships carrying oil byproducts sailed from Venezuela’s east coast between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning with military escorts, bound for Asian markets.

Venezuela’s state oil company PDVSA issued a defiant statement: Ships are continuing to sail “with full security, technical support and operational guarantees in legitimate exercise of their right to free navigation.”

A U.S. official said Washington is aware of the escorts and “considering various courses of action” but declined to provide details.

It’s not clear whether these specific ships are on the U.S. sanctions list.

Roughly 40% of tankers that have transported Venezuelan crude in recent years are under U.S. sanctions.

Maduro has vowed to keep oil exports flowing “at all cost.” U.S. officials have privately indicated additional tanker seizures may be coming.

This sets up a potential confrontation between American and Venezuelan naval forces in the Caribbean, just as Trump prepares to address the nation.

Trump Announces $12 Billion Aid Plan for Farmers Funded by Tariff Revenue

0

President Trump announced a $12 billion bailout for U.S. farmers, saying the funding will come from revenue collected through tariffs. The aid is aimed at growers who have been hurt by global trade disputes, with soybean farmers among the most affected.

Trump outlined the plan during a recent public event, calling it a way to send tariff money back to American farmers. He said the funding would use only a small share of the hundreds of billions of dollars generated by tariffs.

According to ABC News, the relief package includes $11 billion in one-time payments for crop farmers through a new Department of Agriculture bridge payment program. The remaining funds will go to farmers whose crops are not covered by that program.

Trump said the assistance is meant to give farmers more certainty as they sell this year’s harvest and prepare for the next planting season. He added that the relief would also support efforts to keep food prices affordable for U.S. families.

The announcement comes after months of strain on farmers tied to Trump’s trade policies. Global tariffs, especially those involving China, led to sharp declines in exports for several key crops.

Soybean farmers have taken the hardest hit. China, the largest buyer of U.S. soybeans in 2024, stopped purchasing American soybeans for much of the fall, even as farmers reported a strong harvest, according to USDA data.

During that period, China turned to Argentina for soybeans. At the same time, the U.S. approved a $20 billion bailout for Argentina, a move that drew criticism from U.S. farmers and lawmakers.

Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa publicly raised concerns, pointing out that American soybeans were not being sold to China while Argentina benefited from the shift. The administration later announced a framework trade agreement with China that includes future soybean purchases.

Trump also referenced similar steps taken during his first term. His administration approved two farmer aid packages in 2018 and 2019 totaling $28 billion to help offset losses linked to trade disputes.

Raphinha’s wife hits out at FIFA after the Barcelona star was snubbed from team of the year

Barcelona star Raphinha’s wife has hit out at FIFA after her husband was surprisingly omitted from the team of the year despite finishing 5th in Ballon d’Or rankings

The lineup was announced on Tuesday evening in Doha, Qatar, where a host of football’s biggest names flocked for FIFA’s annual awards ceremony.

Gigi Donnarumma was named in goal behind a back four of Achraf Hakimi, William Pacho, Virgil van Dijk, and Nuno Mendes, a midfield quartet consisting of Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Vitinha, and Pedri, and a front two of Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembele.

The Barcelona winger was one of a few noticeable omissions alongside both Erling Haaland and Mo Salah. But his wife, Rodrigues, was quick to express her disappointment.

https://youtube.com/shorts/_Nob0t1_2OM?si=LbWWrLLS1KLLgqTE

The former Leeds winger enjoyed a stellar 2025, contributing 34 goals and 26 assists last season for Barcelona on their way to the Champions League semi-final and LaLiga title.

Those exploits only earned him the fifth spot on the Ballon d’Or list back in September, as well as LaLiga’s player of the year for 2024-25, beating his team-mate Lamine Yamal.

However, the Brazilian has made just 10 appearances for the Catalan giants this term due to injury, perhaps being the reason for his omission from FIFA’s eleven.

Winners of the 2026 World Cup will earn 50 million dollars in prize money

The winners of the 2026 World Cup will earn 50 million dollars in prize money as part of a record financial payout announced by FIFA on Wednesday, December 17.

World football’s governing body said the total prize fund for the tournament will be 655 million dollars, representing an increase of almost 50 percent from the 440 million dollars distributed at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The expanded prize structure comes as the 2026 tournament, scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19, will feature 48 teams for the first time, up from 32 teams in the previous edition.

At the 2022 World Cup, the Argentine Football Association received 42 million dollars after Lionel Messi led Argentina to victory over France in the final, which was decided by penalties. France earned 30 million dollars for finishing as runners up.

Under the new prize structure, the runners up at the 2026 World Cup will receive 33 million dollars. The team finishing third will earn 29 million dollars, while the other losing semi finalist will collect 27 million dollars.

FIFA also confirmed that teams eliminated during the group stage will each receive 9 million dollars. In addition, all 48 participating nations will be paid an extra 1.5 million dollars to cover what FIFA described as “preparation costs”.

The announcement highlights FIFA’s increased financial investment in the expanded tournament, which is expected to be the largest World Cup in history in terms of participation and global reach.

Luis Suarez signs new contract to stay at Inter Miami

Luis Suárez has signed a new contract with Inter Miami, committing his future to the club and extending his stay beyond the current season.

The MLS Cup champions confirmed that the legendary Uruguayan striker has agreed a deal that will keep him at Inter Miami through the 2026 season. Suárez, who turns 39 in January, enjoyed an impressive 2025 campaign, registering 17 goals and 17 assists in 50 appearances.

Since arriving at the club ahead of the 2024 season, Suárez has been a key figure for the Herons, scoring 42 goals and providing 29 assists in 87 matches across all competitions.

Inter Miami co-owner, Jorge Mas had previously indicated that the club was keen to retain Suárez, stressing that the decision would ultimately be left to the player.

Mas said the striker deserved the chance to choose how and when his time at the club would end, while also making it clear the club would welcome him staying on.

Inter Miami recently capped off a successful season by winning the MLS Cup earlier this month. Although neither Suárez nor Lionel Messi found the net in the final, their influence throughout the campaign was vital as Miami secured a 3–1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps to lift the trophy.

Suárez and Messi are now the only remaining members of Miami’s famed “Core Four” of former Barcelona stars, following the retirement of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba after the 2025 playoffs. Their on-field chemistry once again proved decisive during the season.

Messi, who was named MLS MVP of the Year, made history by becoming the first player in league history to win the award in consecutive seasons, having also claimed it in his first full year in the United States in 2024.

Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, are set to open their new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, on April 4 against Austin FC. The club’s 2026 season will begin with five consecutive away matches before the team finally plays its first home game at the new venue.

With Suárez committing to another year and Messi still leading the side, Inter Miami appear determined to build on their recent success and remain a dominant force in Major League Soccer.

United States surrounds Venezuela with ‘largest armada in the history of South America’

United States President Donald Trump has ordered a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering Venezuela, sharply escalating tensions with the South American nation.

Trump announced the move on Truth Social following the seizure of an oil tanker by United States forces off the Venezuelan coast last week. The action comes amid months of rising pressure under Operation Southern Spear, a military campaign aimed at stopping the flow of illegal drugs into the United States.

The president has repeatedly accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to finance drug trafficking and other criminal activities. He has vowed to continue a military buildup in the region until Venezuela hands over what he described as oil, land and other assets, though he did not explain the basis for the United States claiming ownership of those resources.

“Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before Until such time as they return to the United States of America all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us,” he added.

Venezuela’s government strongly condemned the announcement, accusing Trump of breaching international law and violating the principles of free trade and navigation.

In a statement, the Venezuelan government said, “On his social media, he assumes that Venezuela’s oil, land, and mineral wealth are his property. Consequently, he demands that Venezuela immediately hand over all its riches.

“The President of the United States intends to impose, in an utterly irrational manner, a supposed naval blockade on Venezuela with the aim of stealing the wealth that belongs to our nation.”

The US military buildup has coincided with a series of strikes on vessels in international waters across the Caribbean and eastern Pacific. According to reports, at least 95 people have been killed in 25 known strikes on boats allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

Trump has indicated in recent weeks that the campaign could expand beyond maritime operations to include strikes on land.

Operation Southern Spear, ordered by Trump and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, involves nearly a dozen Navy ships and about 12,000 sailors and Marines deployed in the Caribbean. United States forces have also carried out bomber flights near Venezuelan airspace.

Some of the strikes have drawn scrutiny from US officials and international observers. In September, an attack on a vessel linked to a Venezuelan gang left 11 people dead in international waters, raising questions about its legality. Sources told CNN that United Kingdom officials believe several of the strikes violate international law, with 76 deaths reported at the time.

United Nations Human Rights Chief Volker Turk has described the killings as extrajudicial, while the Trump administration has defended the operations as effective in preventing drugs from reaching American shores.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has rejected Trump’s claims, insisting the country’s wealth belongs solely to Venezuela. The country holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves and produces about one million barrels of oil per day, with petroleum remaining central to its economy.

Since the United States imposed oil sanctions in 2017, Venezuela has relied on unflagged tankers to move crude into global markets. Its state owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela SA, has been largely shut out of international trade and sells much of its oil at discounted rates on the black market, particularly to China.

Donald Trump surrounds Venezuela with ?largest armada in the history of South America?

In October, Trump suggested that Maduro had offered stakes in Venezuela’s oil and mineral wealth in an attempt to ease pressure from Washington.

“He’s offered everything. You know why Because he doesn’t want to mess around with the United States,” Trump said at the time.

The US Navy currently has 11 ships in the Caribbean, including an aircraft carrier and multiple amphibious assault vessels. These ships are supported by helicopters, V 22 Ospreys and P 8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, giving the military extensive capacity to monitor shipping traffic around Venezuela.

A private plane arrived with Millions of dollars -Mikel Obi reveals how President Buhari settled Super Eagles’ unpaid 2018 World Cup Bonuses

Former Nigerian international footballer, John Mikel Obi has revealed how he escalated the issue of unpaid bonuses owed to Super Eagles players during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel explained that the players were owed qualification bonuses for months, despite repeated assurances from officials of the Nigeria Football Federation that payment would be made once the team arrived in camp. As anxiety grew within the squad and delays continued, he decided to take the matter further.

Mikel disclosed that he contacted Abba Kyari, who was the Chief of Staff to late President Muhammadu Buhari at the time. According to him, the situation was resolved swiftly, as a private plane reportedly delivered millions of dollars in cash directly to the team’s hotel within 24 hours.

“Talking about fighting for players’ bonuses, I went above the president of the NFF to get those bonuses, which is what I did a couple of times during the World Cup,” Mikel said.

He explained that the issue began well before the tournament, with players repeatedly asking about their unpaid bonuses. Officials assured him the matter would be resolved once the team assembled.

“Leading up to the World Cup, we were owed money. We had been asking for this money for months before the tournament. They kept telling me, ‘Oh, Mikel, don’t worry, the money will be sorted when you come to camp.’ I said, ‘Okay, no problem, but make sure the money is there because the players are asking me about their bonuses,’” he recounted.

After arriving in camp, Mikel said he followed up again with the team secretary and NFF president but received the same assurances. A week passed, and the players continued to express concern, fearing they might never receive the money once the World Cup ended.

“I called him and said, ‘Mr Chief of Staff, we have a serious issue in the national team. We need this money to settle the players. This is what was promised.’ Twenty-four hours later, a private plane arrived. The money was delivered to the hotel, hand to hand. Millions of dollars,” Mikel said.

He added that he personally handed the cash to the team secretary with strict instructions that it should not be diverted.

“I took the money and handed it to the team secretary and told him to hold it. I said, ‘Make sure this money does not go to the president or anyone else. This money belongs to the players.’”

The former Chelsea midfielder has long been praised for his leadership role with the Super Eagles, and his account highlights the behind-the-scenes challenges faced by players even at major international tournaments.

“In Saudi Arabia, I feel broke. They don’t even look at me like I’m broke but financially I’m the lower class in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is very clean and everything is brand new. This country looks like it was just opened up yesterday. Everyone here is rich and they are very kind unlike rich people in most places around the world.

And guess what? They don’t even pay tãxes here. This is the perfect place for a vacation unless you wanna live a wayward lifestyle.” ~ Cardi B.

Cardi B is worth over $100-million but that’s nothing in Saudi Arabia bruh 😳

MALIAN JUDGE ORDERS RETURN OF GOLD TO CANADA’S BARRICK MINING

MALIAN JUDGE ORDERS RETURN OF GOLD TO CANADA’S BARRICK MINING

A JUDGE in Mali has ordered the return of three metric tonnes of gold worth about $400 million to Canada’s Barrick Mining.

It was seized by military helicopter in January from the company’s Loullo-Gounkoto complex following a confiscation order by a judge.

The gold has reportedly been held since then in a bank vault in the country’s capital, Bamako.

January’s seizure order came under Mali’s new mining code introduced by the military-led government which aims to strengthen the state’s share of extractive revenues.

Gold is a pillar of the national economy and represents more than 70 per cent of the country’s exports.

The two sides reached an agreement last month to resolve their dispute over Barrick’s operations in Mali after two years of negotiations.

The company, Mali’s leading gold operator, had suspended some operations after the seizure, denouncing the measure which it said was contrary to contractual obligations.

The provisional administrator of the mining complex named in January is reportedly set to return control of Loullo-Gounkoto to Barrick next week.

Also under the deal, Barrick agreed to pay a $437 million settlement and withdraw its arbitration claims against Mali.

The government, in return, will drop its charges against the company and four Barrick employees detained since November last year have been released.
