WHY CAN’T WE START BUILDING MULTISTOREY GRAVE SITES LIKE ISRAEL, BRAZIL HAVE DONE, ASKS DICKSON JERE

WHY CAN’T WE START BUILDING MULTISTOREY GRAVE SITES LIKE ISRAEL, BRAZIL HAVE DONE, ASKS JERE

WHY can’t we start building multi-storey grave sites like Israel and Brazil have done, wonders Lusaka lawyer and journalist Dickson Jere.

In a Facebook post, Jere expressed shock over the worsening situation at Chingwere Cemetery where new graves are being dug just three feet above old ones, destroying tombstones and risking contamination once rains begin.

“I saw and witnessed at Chingwere Cemetery is heartbreaking. Even though the situation is almost becoming normal, I coud not stomach it. The local authorities manning the cemetery are selling burial graves on top of existing ones. All old graves have been turned into new graves by digging 3 feet on top of the old 6 feet graves. It is chaotic!” he said. “Those who buried in the 1980s at Chingwere Cemetery may not find the graves of their loved ones as they have been desecrated to pave way for new graves. Tombstones have been destroyed. And they continue to be destroyed to pave way for new burial sites. For the past few weeks, I have had funerals back-to-back. Most of them – lost close friends and relatives – in my boyhood Matero neighbourhood. As per custom, burial for such is almost mandatory as part of the final sendoff. Due to proximity, financial and logistical challenges the only burial site option is Old Chingwere Cemetery. Most families cannot afford Memorial Park or Mutumbi coupled with transport costs.”

He warned that the shallow graves could flood and expose bodies, posing serious environmental and health dangers to nearby communities.

“Now, what is scary is the environmental consequences of what is happening at Chingwere Cemetery. I talked about this last year but to no avail. In the next few weeks, we shall start having rains. What this means is that these shallow graves will be flooded and dead bodies washed away. This is very dangerous especially to communities living few metres away,” Jere noted.

He has since urged the Ministry of Local Government and the Lusaka City Council to urgently find a lasting solution to the burial crisis at Chingwere Cemetery.

“I think we need to act. Ministry of Local Government and Lusaka City Council (LCC) should engage urgently and find a lasting solution to the crisis. I do know that LCC has been looking for burial grounds near Lusaka but most of it is now in private hands. And it costs a leg and arm!” Jere said.

He proposed adopting innovative solutions such as multi-storey burial sites or promoting cremation as an alternative.

“I like talking with solutions. That is why I am aspiring for leadership in this country – to do things differently. And I am well travelled and therefore able to learn from other countries on how they resolved such problems. One day, while driving to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv in Israel I saw multi-storey buildings along the road. They looked like shopping mall carports. When I enquired I was told that they were burial sites. Each floor with well maintained graves. They import soils to create ‘from soil to soil’ on each floor. I saw the same in Brazil,” Jere said. “So, why can’t we start building multi-storey grave sites like Israel and Brazil have done? We can also encourage cremation even though it is not part of our culture.”

He added that if elected president he would redesign the Presidential Burial Site into a single mausoleum with space for future presidents, emphasising better land use and forward planning.

“When I become President, I will change the concept of the Presidential Embassy Burial Site. I will destroy those ‘houses’ and only build one mausoleum. Then create over 1,000 graves for all Zambia Presidents. That space is big but we have not used space properly. We always plan for the future! It was a grave mistake to have huge land for one President,” said Jere.

EGYPT PARTNERS WITH ZAMBIA TO TRAIN ENGINEERS, BOOST INFRASTRUCTURE QUALITY

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, in collaboration with Egypt, has commenced a capacity-building workshop aimed at equipping local engineers and contractors with the skills required to deliver high-quality infrastructure across Zambia.

Speaking at the official opening of the workshop in Lusaka, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Charles Milupi stated that the programme will strengthen engagement with engineers from Egypt’s Arab Contractors.

He emphasized that the initiative is designed to ensure Zambian contractors and engineers are equipped with internationally recognized knowledge and practices.

Mr. Milupi reiterated the presidential directive that infrastructure development must adhere to three core principles: right pricing, compliance with quality standards and specifications, and timely delivery.

He said government will continue to build engineers’ capacity by providing necessary skills and supervision to deliver quality infrastructure services.

Speaking at the same event, Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia Myada Esaam highlighted the importance of the training in bridging knowledge gaps and aligning Egyptian expertise with Zambia’s infrastructure development goals.

Ambassador Esaam stated that her team is not in Zambia merely to construct buildings, but to foster cooperation with Zambian engineers.

She stressed Egypt’s commitment, through its engineering firms, to building mutual respect, shared goals, and a common vision inspired by the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

LESSONS FROM FREDERICK CHILUBA’S RISE TO POWER, WHY BECOMING PRESIDENT IS NOT EASY

LESSONS FROM FREDERICK CHILUBA’S RISE TO POWER, WHY BECOMING PRESIDENT IS NOT EASY

Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo-LLB

As the political atmosphere continues to warm up with various individuals such as Mundolo, Brian Mundubile, Binwell Mpundu, John Sangwa SC and  Others expressing interest in the presidency, it is important to revisit history and understand how Frederick Chiluba, one of Zambia’s most influential leaders,  rose to power.

Many may think ascending to the highest office in Zambia is an overnight achievement, but Chiluba’s journey tells a story of preparation, influence, and national connection that spanned nearly two decade

It is a notorious fact that Frederick Titus Jacob Chiluba’s political journey began long before the 1991 elections. You may wish to recall that in 1974, he became the Chairman of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), one of the most powerful labor movements in Zambia that time. This position placed him in direct contact with workers across Zambia, allowing him to understand the struggles, frustrations, and aspirations of ordinary citizens.

Through his leadership, he built a strong grassroots network and national visibility, becoming a voice for the common man.

Chiluba’s influence was so significant that in 1981, he led a countrywide strike that crippled the economy of President Kenneth Kaunda’s government. This bold act established him as a fearless leader who could mobilize masses and challenge authority.

By the time Zambia’s political climate began to shift towards multiparty democracy in 1990, Chiluba was not a new face , he was already a national figure with a proven record of leadership and courage.

When the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD was formed by Arthur Wina, Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, and others, Chiluba naturally became their choice for president. His popularity, especially in the Copperbelt, Lusaka, Southern other Provinces, made him a unifying candidate capable of mobilizing broad national support. Combined with the public’s fatigue from Kenneth Kaunda’s one-party rule that had lasted about 17 years, Chiluba’s appeal resonated powerfully with a nation yearning for change.

The lesson for today’s aspiring leaders is clear, becoming president is not about ambition alone , it is about preparation, consistency, and building influence over time. Chiluba’s rise was the result of years of engagement with the people, an understanding of national issues, and a reputation built through service and sacrifice.

As the saying goes, “only the prepared are the preferred.” Those seeking Zambia’s presidency must learn from Chiluba’s example,  leadership is earned, not declared.

Mindset Must Change

Zambia has an Airport named after Former Mozambique President, Samora Machel in Mbala

Zambia has an Airport named after Former Mozambique President, Samora Machel in Mbala. This is the Airport at which Machel was coming from in 1986 during a Frontlines State meeting when his plane crashed in Mpumalanga, RSA. Kaunda had maintained Kasaba Bay close by. Instead of meeting in Lusaka, African Presidents often landed in Mbala to Kasaba Bay in Mpulungu during the Frontline States.

But typical of us Zambians, once one President comes into power, he destroys and abandons works done by the President before him. Kasaba Bay was destroyed and abandoned by Chiluba and successive Zambian Presidents that followed.

Since 1991, our behaviour in Zambian politics is deeply rooted in political toxicity. We would rather abandon a project that helps our country grow, just for petty reasons, all because such a project was began by another President. The resorts around Kasaba bay were left to die, a whole resort bay area built over years is now dead and forgotten. Today, Zambians on the streets of Lusaka or any town don’t even know of Kasaba bay, its location or its history to our country.

This country i so love will never succeed if we keep on this political trajectory set forth in 1991. The behaviour and toxicity of our politics doesn’t just exist in the Presidents we have elected since Chiluba in 1991, it cuts deep to everyday Zambians as individual citizens. Party members of this President will accuse supporters of that President of using a road or hospital built by that President as though such a President used his personal money to build the hospital. In politics, there is what’s called continuity.

It’s a national duty of Presidents and citizens to continue the works and project began by another leader,  no matter which party they belonged to. You don’t abandon building a University built by one President and cut funding because he was your rival. You build a country by successfully transferring roles and projects from one President to the next. That way, we will be able to pass this future safely to the next generation of Zambian leaders !!

U.S. Lifts Key Restriction on Ukraine’s Long-Range Missiles”

U.S. Lifts Key Restriction on Ukraine’s Long-Range Missiles”

The United States has lifted a major restriction on Ukraine’s use of Western-supplied long-range missiles, including the British Storm Shadow cruise missiles, allowing Kyiv to strike targets deep inside Russian territory. The policy change shifts approval authority from Washington to General Alexus Grynkewich, the top U.S. commander in Europe and NATO, giving Ukraine more operational autonomy.

The first confirmed strike under this expanded authority hit a Russian munitions plant in Bryansk, demonstrating the reach and precision of these weapons. With a range exceeding 180 miles and advanced targeting support from the U.S., these missiles provide Ukraine the ability to hit critical military infrastructure, logistics hubs, and energy sites within Russia.

This development marks a significant step in Kyiv’s efforts to expand pressure on Moscow, both militarily and psychologically. Russian forces must now account for potential attacks far from the front lines, disrupting supply chains and forcing new defensive measures.

While the move carries the risk of escalation, it underscores the West’s commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself and project power beyond its borders. Combined with domestic drones and missile systems targeting Russian infrastructure, Ukraine’s reach—and its leverage—continues to grow.

TANZANIA UNDER FEAR, THE RISE OF A SILENT TYRANNY

TANZANIA UNDER FEAR, THE RISE OF A SILENT TYRANNY

A dark cloud is hovering over Tanzania ahead of the coming polls. President Samia Suluhu has turned the once hopeful land of Nyerere into a state of fear and enforced silence.

Opposition leaders are being imprisoned, intimidated, and silenced. The fearless Tundu Lissu, leader of CHADEMA now rots behind bars, accused of treason simply for demanding fair electoral reforms before elections.

His courage echoes through the walls of oppression as he raises his fist and tells his people, “Do not fear.” ✊

The regime’s paranoia has crossed borders. John Heche, the Deputy Leader of CHADEMA, was arrested at the Isebania One Stop Border Post while on his way to Bondo to represent his party leader, Tundu Lissu, at the funeral of Raila Odinga.

Imagine being arrested for attending a funeral!
But what followed was pure African resistance at its best, Kenyans and Tanzanians united at the border and forcefully smuggled Heche into Kenya
✊

That’s the spirit of the people, fearless, united and unbowed!

Meanwhile, inside Tanzania, enforced disappearances, media crackdowns, and political persecutions are becoming the order of the day. The regime has created a climate of fear, silencing journalists, activists, and anyone who dares question the government.

This is not what John Pombe Magufuli stood for. Magufuli, despite his flaws, believed in African independence, accountability, and resistance against Western puppetry. But now, those principles are being buried, replaced by foreign-backed puppeteering and domestic repression.

History is repeating itself in the most painful way. Tanzania is turning into another Uganda, another Kenya, where democracy is just theatre and freedom is a privilege, not a right.

But the people are awakening. You can jail a man but you can’t jail a movement.
You can silence voices, but you can’t silence truth. The fire of resistance burns again in East Africa and no dictator can extinguish it.

The people will rise. The people will speak.
Justice will echo from Dar es Salaam to Bondo!

VIDEO: Man calls off wedding after the bride invited her ex-boyfriend

Sometimes it is best to cut ties with former partners just to maintain your current relationship.

A man called of his wedding because his wife-to-be invited her ex-boyfriend and he also honored the invite.

In a viral video, a groom called off his wedding after the ex-boyfriend of the bride showed up at the ceremony.

In the video, the bride could be seen devastated as the groom recorded the whole incident while complaining.

https://twitter.com/Teeniiola/status/1980874817256538192?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1980874817256538192%7Ctwgr%5Ec668047b3edf3e9e64077425a4a82507762e91b7%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.faceofmalawi.com%2F2025%2F10%2F22%2Fdrama-man-calls-off-wedding-after-discovering-his-bride-invited-her-ex-as-a-friend-watch-video%2F

According to him, he does not understand why she had to invite her ex-boyfriend.

The man apparently had no idea of the invite until the ex appeared at the ceremony.

Although she complained that he was ruining her big day, he blamed it on her for doing so.

Out of anger and desperation, the groom went on to remove his ring and threw it at the bride.

“Matter of fact we are not married, take the ring back. On my soul it’s over,” he sweared as he threw the ring at her.

The video has sparked conversations online. While some feel it is right, others think the man is acting from a place of insecurity.

LIBYA : African Union MEMBERS BETRAYED MUAMMAR GADDAFI BY REJECTING HIS UNIFICATION IDEOLOGY

LIBYA : African Union MEMBERS BETRAYED MUAMMAR GADDAFI BY REJECTING HIS UNIFICATION IDEOLOGY.

MUAMMAR GADDAFI strongly advocated for AFRICAN UNIFICATION and played a significant role in the formation of the African Union (AU), which replaced the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 2002.

Here’s what you need to know;

Gaddafi’s Vision  championed the idea of a United States of Africa, envisioning a unified continent with a single GOVERNMENT, MILITARY, CURRENCY, and FOREIGN POLICY like the EUROPEAN UNION (EU).

He was instrumental in transforming the OAU into the AU, pushing for greater economic and political integration among African nations.
As a PAN-AFRICANIST, His efforts were rooted in Pan-Africanism, aiming to unite Africans and address common challenges like COLONIALISM, NEO-COLONIALISM, and ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

GADDAFI sought stronger ties with various regions, including EUROPE and ARAB countries, while opposing NEO-COLONIALISM and advocating for AFRICAN self-sufficiency.

He served as CHAIRPERSON of the AFRICAN UNION from 2009 to 2010. But his proposals for AFRICAN UNITY faced resistance from some leaders concerned about sovereignty.

Several so-called AFRICAN LEADERS had reservations or complexities regarding MUAMMAR GADDAFI’S vision for AFRICAN UNIFICATION, particularly his push for a “UNITED STATES OF AFRICA”. Here are some notable leaders who stood firmly against the ideology:

THABO MBEKI (SOUTH AFRICA): As the inaugural president of the AFRICAN UNION, MBEKI led a counterapproach, focusing on practical integration rather than GADDAFI’S grand UNIFICATION plans.

ISAIAS AFWERKI (ERITREA): Known for ERITREA’S complex relations and AFWERKI’s leadership style, he’s among leaders with distinct perspectives on regional cooperation.

Other Leaders’ Stances: Many AFRICAN LEADERS paid lip service to GADDAFI’S vision but didn’t fully commit to realizing it, prioritizing national sovereignty and regional cooperation pragmatism.

After his AFRICAN UNIFICATION agenda was thwarted by some puppets, he angrily left & mend fences with EUROPE  & U.S . Thinking that it’s the safest and best decision for himself, not knowing that they will soon come for his head… Which eventually led to his downfall and decimation.

PAINFULLY, WE WILL NEVER EVER HAVE SOMEONE LIKE MUAMMAR GADDAFI AGAIN IN AFRICA. HE WAS A ONE MAN SQUAD & A GREAT VISIONARY/PAN-AFRICANIST LEADER!

Rest In Power… Champion 

A 22-year-old woman from Scotland, Kira Cousins, has publicly apologized after faking an entire pregnancy.

She did not stop there. She also used a silicone doll to pose as a newborn baby just to validate her story and cover the lie.

Cousins deceived family, friends, and even the alleged “father” of the child, going so far as to host a gender reveal party to maintain the ruse.Family games

According to reports, Cousins shared a Facebook post announcing the “birth” of her daughter, stating, “Miss Bonnie-Leigh Joyce Gardner. Born 10/10/25 @ 2:46 am. 5lbs 4oz … All warm and wrapped up today, equally as cute.”

She later posted that the fictional baby had a serious heart condition requiring surgery. In a text to the “father,” Cousins claimed Bonnie-Leigh had passed away, leaving him confused and distraught.

The deception unraveled when Cousins’ mother discovered the silicone doll in her room. In a subsequent apology on Facebook, Cousins confessed, “I wasn’t pregnant.”

“There was no baby. I made it up and kept it going way too far. I faked scans, messages, a whole birth story, and acted like a doll was a real baby,” she wrote.

GAY MAN PLEADS FOR HELP TO SAVE TROUBLED LOVER

GAY MAN PLEADS FOR HELP TO SAVE TROUBLED LOVER

A man from Gaborone has appealed for help to support his 22-year-old partner, who he says has repeatedly been involved in theft and other criminal activities.

The 32-year-old man, who asked to remain anonymous, told Isaac Pinielo Live that his partner’s behaviour became a concern three months into their two-year relationship.

Early signs included missing money, cheating, and insolent behaviour.

By six months, the relationship had deteriorated into emotional and physical abuse.

Within a year, the partner allegedly stole several items from the couple’s home, including laptops, a TV, and a gas cylinder.

The man reported the matter to the police but later withdrew the case at the request of his partner’s parents.

He said his partner has other pending cases that could carry long prison sentences.

The man said he has tried to help his partner, taking him for counselling, to church, and even relocating for a fresh start.

Despite these efforts, his partner continues to engage in criminal behaviour.

He explained that his partner does not use drugs or alcohol but struggles with deep psychological issues stemming from childhood trauma and identity problems.

The latest theft involved property worth more than P30,000.

The man has lost his job, family support, and many friends because of the situation.

He said he is now living with his partner’s mother and survives on handouts.

He is appealing to mental health professionals, NGOs, and government departments to develop rehabilitation programmes that address crime, trauma, and mental health together.

He also welcomes private assistance from organisations willing to help.

Anyone who can provide counselling, rehabilitation, or support is asked to contact Isaac Pinielo Live for referral.

Nigerian court orders TikTok ‘couple’ to marry in real life

By: Trt Africa

A Nigerian court has ordered popular TikTok personalities Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda to marry in real life within 60 days.

The Kano Magistrate Court ruled that the pair, who have been portraying a “couple” on TikTok, should formalise their relationship.

The unusual ruling follows months of viral videos showing the pair in what authorities deemed “immoral” exchanges. The videos drew millions of views and attracted the attention of the authorities.

The Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board had said that the pair had crossed moral and religious boundaries in their social media content.

The Kano State Hisbah Board, the state’s Islamic law and morality enforcement agency, has now been ordered to arrange and formalise the marriage.

Presiding Magistrate Halima Wali issued the directive on Monday, 20 October, warning that failure to complete the marriage within the 60-day period would amount to contempt of court.

Amnesty International condemns Tanzania’s crackdown on dissent ahead of October Elections

Amnesty International has issued a strong call to the government of Tanzania to immediately end what it describes as an “unacceptable campaign of repression against dissent” ahead of the country’s upcoming general election.]

The human rights organization says it is deeply concerned about the deteriorating political and civic environment as Tanzanians prepare to go to the polls on October 29.

According to Amnesty, the Tanzanian government has intensified its clampdown on the opposition, the media, and human rights defenders in recent months.

The group reports that state authorities have used restrictive laws, intimidation, and politically motivated prosecutions to silence critical voices and suppress open political debate.

Central to Amnesty’s concern is the ongoing treason trial of Tundu Lissu, the outspoken leader of the opposition CHADEMA party.

Lissu, who has long been a vocal critic of government corruption and human rights abuses, faces charges that many observers believe are politically motivated.

The organization also highlighted the disqualification of opposition presidential candidate Luhaga Mpina, which it described as another example of the government’s deliberate efforts to narrow the political space.

Amnesty International believes these actions are not isolated incidents but part of a calculated strategy to instill fear among citizens and prevent meaningful civic participation.

The group warns that this growing repression threatens to erode Tanzania’s democratic foundations and entrench authoritarian rule under the guise of electoral legitimacy.

Amnesty has called on the international community, regional bodies, and human rights organizations to closely monitor developments in Tanzania and pressure the government to uphold democratic principles.

The organization insists that the rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and association must be respected and that all candidates should be allowed to campaign freely and fairly.

As the October 29 election draws closer, Amnesty International’s warning underscores growing fears that the Tanzanian government’s tightening grip on dissent could compromise the credibility of the entire electoral process.

Ex-French President Sarkozy Assigned 2 Bodyguards To Protect Him In Prison

Sarkozy’s Prison Protection: Two Bodyguards Inside His Cell
The former French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, has been assigned two security officers to serve as his bodyguards while he serves a five-year prison sentence. The confirmation came directly from France’s interior minister, who stated that the unusual security arrangement was necessary due to the former head of state’s status and the threats against him. This development has sparked strong reactions from within the prison system.

According to AFP, the right-wing leader, who was in power from 2007 to 2012, was incarcerated on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, at La Santé prison in Paris. He was found guilty last month in a criminal conspiracy case involving the seeking of funding for his 2007 election campaign from the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Unprecedented Security Measures Revealed
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez provided the details of the security plan in an interview with local media. He explained that the protection was a continuation of the arrangement Sarkozy benefited from while free.

“The former head of state would usually benefit from a protection arrangement given his status and the threats against him,” Nunez said, confirming that the measure “has indeed been maintained in detention.”

Sources close to the matter told AFP that the two security officers are stationed in a neighbouring cell to the former president. This confirms the highly unusual nature of his detention, where his personal safety is being managed by his own protection detail from inside the prison walls.

Prison Staff Voice Their Displeasure
The presence of the bodyguards has not been well received by representatives of the prison service. Wilfried Fonck, the head of the UFAP UNSa Justice union, gave a fiery interview to RTL radio, calling the situation an insult to the profession of prison wardens.

“They’re basically telling us we don’t know how to do our jobs,” Fonck stated.

He expressed further frustration about the logistics, saying:

“Today we have two civilians inside a prison who shouldn’t be there, and who don’t know how the system works. I’ve never seen anything like it in 25 years on the job.”

Life Inside La Santé Prison
Prison staff provided AFP with details of Sarkozy’s living conditions. The former president is being held in the prison’s solitary confinement wing. His cell is reported to be nine square metres (95 square feet) in size. This measure is intended to avoid any contact with other prisoners for security reasons.

In solitary confinement, his routine is severely restricted. He is allowed one walk per day, alone, in a small yard. He will also be permitted visits three times a week. Sarkozy’s legal team has requested his release pending his appeal trial, but they have stated they expect him to remain in jail for at least “three weeks to a month.”

His imprisonment marks a significant moment in modern French history, as he is the first former French leader to be incarcerated since Philippe Petain in the aftermath of World War II.

Zimbabwe MPs Claim They Are Struggling For Survival, Say “We Are Not Being Taken Care Of”

Zimbabwe MPs Cry Foul Over Poor Condition And Survival Struggles
Zimbabwean Members of Parliament have openly declared that they are “struggling for survival” as they go for months without receiving their fuel allocations. Legislators told the National Assembly on Tuesday that poor conditions of service are leaving them exposed, endangered, and stripped of dignity.

MPs Link Fatal Accident To Delayed Fuel Coupons
Dzivaresekwa MP Edwin Mushoriwa spoke emotionally about the death of Nkulumane lawmaker, Desire Moyo, who died in a crash along the Gweru–Bulawayo Highway on 10 October 2025.

Moyo’s vehicle collided with an elephant during a night drive after he had allegedly delayed his trip waiting for fuel coupons.

In the National Assembly, Mushoriwa directly linked the tragedy to Parliament’s failure to support its legislators.

He said:

“One of the reasons why Hon. Moyo and others were involved in an accident is that they received their coupons around 8:00 p.m. in this Parliament. If Members of Parliament are not respected and if this august House is not given the honour that it deserves, if we have a situation where we pass the budget but we are treated as if we are third-class citizens in this country, it just does not work, Madam Speaker.”

He added:

“Right now, it is very difficult for some of us to know that Parliament contributed to the passing on of Hon. Moyo.”

“We Are Not Being Taken Care Of”
The Dzivaresekwa legislator repeatedly emphasised that lawmakers were being undermined in their duties.

He told the House:

“Members of Parliament have commitments in constituencies. They have to travel for them to cover what is needed in their constituencies. We do not live in this august House. After this august House, we have to go to our constituencies. If we do not go to your constituencies, we will not be voted back into this august House.”

He went on to say:

“Members are doing everything that they can do. They come here and they do work for the citizens, but they are not being taken care of.”

As Mushoriwa pressed on, Acting Speaker Tsitsi Zhou repeatedly interjected.

The Acting Speaker said:

“Order Hon. Mushoriwa! I would like to believe there is a date that is supposed to be set for a joint caucus and this issue is supposed to be raised at this particular meeting and dealt with thoroughly.”

But Mushoriwa resisted:

“No Madam Speaker, we cannot do that. We lost a Member in this august House. You cannot just shut me up just like that.”

The Acting Speaker responded firmly:

“Order, order! We are all in pain. It is a great loss, not only to Nkulumane but to the whole nation.”

Mushoriwa refused to let the matter slide, demanding that it be put on record:

“This is not a caucus issue, but it is an issue that needs to be on record.”

Heated Exchanges In The House
The tension in the chamber grew as other MPs joined the debate.

When Mushoriwa tried to continue, the Acting Speaker once again intervened:

“Order Hon. Mushoriwa! May I request the Chief Whip…”

Before she could finish, Mushoriwa cut in:

“Madam Speaker, I have not finished my point of privilege.”

As the chamber grew restless, Zanu PF legislator Hon. Makumire rose with a point of order.

The Acting Speaker immediately called for calm:

“Order, order! We are all mourning, but these issues have dates that are set where the Government Chief Whips will give us the dates for such debates.”

Despite repeated interruptions, Mushoriwa insisted that MPs’ welfare could not wait for a caucus.

“Members are not asking for luxuries. We are simply asking for what allows us to serve the citizens. Without fuel and without respect, we are risking our lives, and in the case of Hon. Moyo, it cost a life.”

Months Without Fuel

Legislators confirmed that they had gone for months without receiving their fuel allocations. Mushoriwa said this shortage was not just an inconvenience but a danger.

“We come here, we do the work for the citizens, but when it comes to our welfare, we are left in limbo. It is not just about us, it is about being able to reach the people who voted us into office. Without support, we are risking our lives on the roads just to meet them.”

ZiFM Stereo News reported that lawmakers “are forced into dangerous survival tactics” as they struggle with inadequate support from Parliament.

Gucci Mane opens up about bipolar disorder, schizophrenia diagnoses

Award-winning rapper Gucci Mane opened up about his mental health struggles in his new memoir, Episodes, saying that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Per Bossip, the 45-year-old rapper and his wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, touched on his mental health during an interview on The Breakfast Club. In the interview, Ka’oir explained how she handles her husband’s schizophrenia to prevent his episodes from going public.

“I take his apps off his phone,” she said. “First thing I do, I delete Instagram. I delete everything. Even if I got to change his password, I’m changing it because I don’t need the public to know he’s having an episode.”

Ka’oir added: “You realize you’d never know about any other episode since September 13 because I control that. You’re not going on Instagram, you’re not going on Twitter, it’s deleted. I just control everything at home. Now, before the episodes come, I catch it. So that’s why he hasn’t had another one.”

Ka’oir also touched on Gucci’s demeanor when he’s having an episode and how she notices it. “Now, before the episodes come, I catch it,” she stated.

“So that’s why he hasn’t had another one. And how you catch that is he doesn’t speak to you. He wants to be left alone. He don’t eat. He does not sleep. Text messages. There’s a period after each word. And I’m like, ‘You’re going through an episode. You’re sick.’ ‘No, I’m not. Ain’t nothing wrong with me. Why do you think that?’ ‘You’re not speaking to me.’ ‘Well, there’s nothing to talk about.’ I said, ‘Well, that’s not how you speak to your wife.’ And I’m like, ‘You’re sick.’ And we snap out of it right then.”

The show’s co-host, Charlamagne Tha God, also made mention of Kim Kardashian recently revealing that her ex-husband Kanye West used to give away their luxury cars when he was going through an episode. Gucci said he used to do the same, but he “gave away jewelry.”

“Jewelry costs so much, I would give my friends jewelry. They knew I wasn’t well, but they’d take it.”

The veteran Atlanta rapper said that he ultimately cut ties with his friends after his prison stint because of them taking advantage of him, Bossip reported.

“They know something going on with me, but they’d take it,” he stated. “When I got out of jail, I cut off all my friends. I’m like, ‘Damn, they was taking advantage.’”

Gucci additionally touched on having to apologize to Drake, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, and other people after he went after them in his infamous 2013 rant on X.

“I was super embarrassed and hurt by the things I said because I wasn’t well then, right? So, then, I got locked up. So, a lot of those people who I was saying stuff to, I was like, ‘they ain’t never gonna mess with me no more,’” Gucci said.

“So even when I got out three years later…I apologized to [Rick] Ross, Drake, Nicki [Minaj], like all of them people that accepted my apologies, they don’t know it’s like a weight off my shoulders.”

Billionaire Strive Masiyiwa’s net worth drops by millions

Strive Masiyiwa, Zimbabwe’s richest man, forged his empire from humble beginnings in the 1990s. Starting with a small telecoms dream, he built Econet Wireless into a continental powerhouse operating in over 20 countries. His ventures stretch far beyond Zimbabwe, spanning fintech, renewable energy, and philanthropy.

Masiyiwa’s journey from a young engineer to a global business leader inspires countless African entrepreneurs. Yet, even for Africa’s billionaires, fortune can shift quickly. After reaching a $1.3 billion peak in August, Masiyiwa’s wealth has dipped. According to Forbes, his net worth now stands at around $1.2 billion — a notable decline.

Econet boss billionaire Strive Masiyiwa’s net worth drops by millions
Masiyiwa’s wealth has fallen by $100 million in recent months and $600 million year-to-date. The drop follows a revaluation of his public holdings in Harare-listed companies. Zimbabwe’s volatile economy has played a major role in the decline. In May, the government replaced the local currency with the gold-backed ZiG to fight inflation.

However, the move unsettled investors and disrupted market confidence. Corporate valuations tumbled across sectors, dragging down the value of Masiyiwa’s stakes. Econet and other group subsidiaries faced pressure from reduced liquidity and fluctuating exchange rates.

Despite these setbacks, Masiyiwa remains one of Africa’s most influential entrepreneurs. His long-term investments and global partnerships continue to anchor his empire. Still, the current dip highlights how deeply Zimbabwe’s economic shifts can ripple through even the strongest fortunes.

“Ned is obsessed with virginity, Regina is obsessed with wealth” Catholic priest weighs in on Ned Nwoko and Regina Daniels’ marriage

0

A Catholic priest has accused Ned Nwoko and Regina Daniels of greed and said neither of them ought to complain about the outcome of their union.

Reacting to the marriage crisis the couple is currently facing, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu said Ned was looking for a virgin and Regina was looking for wealth and they both got together with each other for that reason.

He added that greed is what fuelled their union.

He said they have no reason to complain now that they are reaping the fruits of their greed.

The priest said that what the older politician and his younger actress wife had was a contract where both got what they wanted, not a marriage.

Operation Dudula Accused of Taking Bribes in Extortion Scheme

Johannesburg, 22 October 2025- Allegations have emerged that the civic movement Operation Dudula is taking bribes from companies by threatening to expose employment of undocumented foreign nationals. According to investigative reports, businesses in parts of Johannesburg and Gauteng were approached by members of the movement who demanded payment under the implied threat of reputational damage or public raids if they did not comply.

The report, published by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, describes how restaurants and other businesses in suburbs such as Norwood, Lyndhurst and Orange Grove were targeted with demands framed as “protection fees” payments required to avoid harassment or accusations by the group over hiring practices.

In one case outlined in the report, a restaurant owner said the movement demanded money to prevent disruption of business. The Global Initiative describes how “as time went on they came with threats demanding money from us … or else they trash our stock.”

The scale of the alleged scheme remains unclear. No formal criminal charges have been publicly reported against Operation Dudula specifically for extortion or bribery, and the organisation has not issued a detailed response to the accusations. Civil-society groups and human-rights observers warn that such practices risk undermining the rule of law and could constitute vigilantism.

The organisation’s professed mission is to campaign against undocumented migration and to pressure employers who hire undocumented foreign nationals. But the new allegations shift the narrative: rather than solely campaigning, the movement is accused of monetising its access and influence over employers by offering to shield them from public exposure in exchange for cash.

Businesses approached by the movement find themselves in a difficult position. If they refuse to pay, they risk being publicly confronted by the group; if they comply, they are effectively subsidising an unofficial enforcement mechanism that operates outside formal legal channels. One employer in the investigative report claimed to have reported the matter to police, yet no prosecutions followed.

Experts say the allegations of taking bribes raise broader questions about what happens when non-state actors assume quasi-regulatory roles. “When a civic movement begins to demand payments from employers in exchange for avoiding intervention, that crosses from protest into extortion,” said Richard Calland, a South African constitutional scholar. While not directly commenting on this case, he emphasised that accountability and due-process must prevail.

The movement’s leadership has previously been criticised for vigilante-style tactics in other domains, including blocking access to public services for foreign nationals. The new charges of taking bribes add a financial and criminal dimension that may attract formal legal scrutiny.

The companies targeted are wary of speaking out, fearing reprisals or reputational harm. Legal analysts say any investigation would need to examine whether the payments were coerced, and whether the movement’s actions amount to extortion under South African law.

South Africa launches doorstep passport delivery for citizens abroad

South Africa will begin doorstep delivery of passports for citizens living abroad from November 1, marking the first time the country has offered courier delivery for critical government documents, Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber announced today.

The service will initially be available at 18 cities worldwide where South Africa has established new service centers that have reduced passport waiting times from 18 months to five weeks. Delivery fees will range from $30 to $60 with turnaround times of 24 to 72 hours.

“This bold reform not only promotes inclusivity by resolving long-standing problems experienced by South Africans abroad when applying for a passport but also amounts to another watershed moment,” Schreiber told the South African community in The Hague during the announcement.

The minister unveiled the initiative at the opening of a new dedicated service center in The Hague. Similar centers have opened in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and London since July.

Additional centers are planned for the United Arab Emirates and China in coming months. France, Germany and North America will follow later, according to the department.

The doorstep delivery represents part of Schreiber’s broader “Home Affairs @ home” vision. The department plans to extend the service to South African residents once the international rollout proves successful.

“Once we are comfortable that doorstep delivery is working smoothly and securely for the relatively small population of South Africans living abroad, we will scale up this reform,” Schreiber said in a statement.

The reform addresses persistent complaints from the estimated two million South Africans living overseas. Many previously waited over a year for passport renewals through consular offices.

VFS Global operates the new service centers under contract with the department. The centers offer online appointment booking, SMS tracking and email support alongside walk-in services.

The centers process both adult and minor passport applications. Birth registration services are also available at the facilities.

Home Affairs has struggled with service delivery backlogs for years. The department cleared over 306,000 visa applications in the past year and produced 3.6 million Smart ID cards.

Digital transformation initiatives include partnerships with South African banks. Capitec, FNB, Standard Bank and Absa now offer document services at selected branches.

The department aims to eventually enable passport applications through banking apps. Home delivery would follow for domestic applicants using facial recognition technology for security.

South African citizens must enter and exit the country using South African passports even if they hold dual citizenship. The new service aims to ease this requirement for diaspora communities.

Melania Trump sued by Journalist Michael Wolff for defamation

0

Melania Trump is at the center of a new legal showdown, this time with journalist and author Michael Wolff, who has filed a lawsuit accusing the former First Lady of trying to block the publication of his upcoming tell-all book about her life.

According to court filings obtained by TMZ, Wolff claims Melania “deliberately and maliciously interfered” with his publishing contract and defamed him through public statements related to his forthcoming book, “The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump (Redux).”

Wolff alleges that Melania and her team spread false and damaging claims, accusing him of fabricating interviews, intimidating sources, and “manufacturing lies for profit.” These allegations, he says, frightened off international distributors and caused him to lose a multi-million dollar publishing deal.

The journalist further asserts that he has evidence showing Melania personally directed a public relations firm to contact media outlets and threaten legal action if they promoted or covered his upcoming book — describing it as a “calculated campaign to destroy his reputation and livelihood.”

https://youtu.be/z-BxqnbX8us?si=_ol5WmIFlCA9Ax25

As part of his lawsuit, Wolff included a letter from Melania’s attorneys demanding he retract and apologize for remarks he made to The Daily Beast linking her to convicted s3x offender Jeffrey Epstein. In that interview, Wolff claimed Melania was “very involved” in the Epstein scandal and suggested she could be a key connection in Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Epstein, accusations her lawyers have firmly denied as “false and defamatory.”

Wolff is asking the court to issue a declaration that the statements in his book are not defamatory, and to rule that if Melania Trump continues efforts to harass, intimidate, or obstruct publication, she will be liable for damages.

Representatives for Melania Trump have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Trump and Putin meeting canceled

There are no plans for US President Donald Trump to meet with President Vladimir Putin of Russia in the immediate future, a White House official said on Tuesday, October 21, a pivot after Trump suggested last week that he would meet his Russian counterpart soon in Budapest to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump said last week that he planned on meeting with Putin after senior American and Russian officials spoke.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, then had a “productive call,” the official said.

Trump’s initial plan, stated just last week, was to speak with the Russian leader in about “two weeks or so” to discuss a path toward ending the war in Ukraine.

He even floated Budapest as the potential location for the meeting. This suggestion was a highly anticipated development, as a direct meeting between the two leaders would be seen as a major step toward de-escalation or a potential peace process.

It is unclear whether Trump and Putin are still discussing meeting in Budapest in the more distant future. Trump was unclear about a date for the meeting but indicated it would happen soon after senior officials from each country spoke.

The news that Trump will not meet with Putin in the immediate future, despite earlier suggestions, is a significant shift in diplomatic signals regarding the war in Ukraine.

Algeria opposition Leader Ghares jailed for insulting The President

An Algerian court has sentenced opposition politician Fethi Ghares to two years in prison over a Facebook post deemed insulting to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, his lawyer told AFP on Tuesday, October 21.

Ghares, a well-known secular leftist and critic of the government, was found guilty “for remarks concerning the president,” according to his lawyer, Abdelghani Badi.

Badi confirmed that Ghares was not immediately detained following the verdict and that the defence team plans to appeal the decision. “He was not present at the hearing,” the lawyer added.

Another member of his legal team, lawyer Fetta Sadat, revealed on Facebook that Ghares was also fined 300,000 dinars (about $2,300). Prosecutors had reportedly sought a three-year sentence along with the same fine.

Sadat said Ghares was charged with “insulting a state institution” and “spreading false or malicious information likely to harm public order or security.”

The 50-year-old opposition figure has faced similar charges in the past. In May 2024, he was convicted in another case and handed a one-year prison sentence, though he was not jailed pending appeal to the Supreme Court.

Ghares was previously arrested in 2021 and sentenced for “insulting the president”, accusations that, like the current case, were based on posts made on Facebook.

A member of Algeria’s secular leftist opposition, Ghares joined the pro-democracy Hirak movement in 2019, which played a key role in ousting longtime president Abdelaziz Bouteflika. His party, the Democratic and Social Movement, the successor to the Algerian Communist Party, was officially banned by authorities in February 2023.

Nigerian feminist says her attraction to men feels like a spiritual battle

A self acclaimed feminist has ignited online discussions after candidly sharing her internal conflict about being attracted to men, describing the experience as both “embarrassing” and a “spiritual battle.”

In a viral video, she opened up about the guilt she feels as a feminist when experiencing attraction to men, sparking conversations about the intersection of personal feelings and ideological beliefs.

“One of the things that really makes me feel guilty as a feminist is my attraction to men,” the lady claimed in the video.

“I’d see a man who is my type down to the T and I’m like, oh, let me in there. It’s so embarrassing. I don’t even want to be that way,” she added.

She went on to describe the intensity of her feelings as an internal struggle and even claimed it might be a “demonic possession.”

“Why am I feeling this way? Father Lord, in Jesus’ name, I rebuke it. I don’t like being attracted to men. Even if I have a boyfriend, why am I seeing you and my heart is fluttering? Get away from me in Jesus’ name. I hate it so much—it feels like demonic possession.”

The woman, identifying as straight, elaborated on how this attraction feels at odds with her feminist identity:

“Sometimes I see a guy and I’m like ‘Ooh!’ but then I remember I’m supposed to be a feminist. Being attracted to men is so embarrassing. I’m tired,” she concluded.

The video has sparked conversation all over social media. Although she claims she is straight, others claim she is a lesbian who has mixed identity.

Rihanna has lost close to $36 million following the collapse of her luxury-fashion venture with LVMH

Pop star, Rihanna has lost close to $36 million following the collapse of her luxury-fashion venture with LVMH.

The 37-year-old singer teamed up with the brand in 2019 to launch a high-end clothing label named Fenty, under the trade name Project Loud France, a nod to the performer’s fifth album Loud.

Rihanna invested €29,988,000 and LVMH contributed roughly €30 million. But the venture was wound down in 2021, citing a strategic refocus on her cosmetics and lingerie businesses, according to Mail Online.

Now, according to accounts from the British-registered arm of the business, Denim UK Holdings, through which Rihanna invested, the singer has made the massive loss of about $36 million.

The Daily Mail, which uncovered the records, said Rihanna’s efforts “flopped” and the business closed down in 2021 due to the pandemic.

Reports at the time stated due to travelling restrictions during Covid, hands-on designer Rihanna couldn’t see the atelier in Paris or get to the Italian fashion houses making the products.

When the label launched, it attracted attention for its pricing.

For example, a padded denim jacket priced at nearly $1,000 and a corseted shirtdress at around $810.

The brand’s positioning put it at the ultra-premium end, unlike Rihanna’s other lines such as Fenty Beauty or Savage X Fenty.

In a statement at the time of closure, Rihanna and LVMH said: “LVMH and Rihanna reaffirm their ambition to concentrate on the growth and the long-term development of the Fenty ecosystem, focusing on cosmetics, skincare, and lingerie.”

The fashion house was officially titled “Project Loud France” and registered in Paris, but never achieved the market impact expected.

Rihanna’s loss marks a rare financial setback in the otherwise highly successful business trajectory of the singer, who has made a fortune from her ventures in beauty, lingerie and entertainment.

Her career spans two decades, and her estimated net worth as of this year is at least $1 billion.

Pope Leo XIV canonizes 7 new Saints including former Satanic Priest

Pope Leo XIV canonized seven religious figures who were posthumously elevated to sainthood on Sunday, October 19, with the group notably including a former Satanic priest who became a Catholic legend.

More than 70,000 onlookers gathered at the Vatican to witness the historic canonization, the second performed by Pope Leo XIV since his selection as the new leader of the Catholic Church in May.

Among the celebrated figures was Bartolo Longo, an Italian lawyer and former high-ranking Satanic priest who returned to Catholicism. Longo, who died in 1926 at the age of 85, was instrumental in founding the Pontifical Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii.

Longo’s deviation from the Catholic Church began after losing his mother early in life. Around the same time, Giuseppe Garibaldi was advocating for the elimination of papal city states in the effort to unify Italy. Longo soon became involved in the occult, quickly rising to a high-ranking position within the Satanic Church where he presided over services and rituals, including promising himself to the devil.

His departure from Catholicism was short-lived, however. He rededicated himself to the church with renewed fervor, reportedly thanks to the influence of his family and a professor at the University of Naples, where he was studying law. Before being promoted to a saint, Bartolo was already informally regarded as a patron saint for those struggling with their spiritual life.

The remaining figures newly canonized include an archbishop killed during the Armenian genocide, a lay catechist from Papua New Guinea, a Venezuelan “doctor of the poor,” and three nuns who dedicated their lives to charity.

Portraits of the “seven witnesses” were unveiled in the windows overlooking St. Peter’s Square. During the homily, the Pope stated: “Today we have before us seven witnesses, the new Saints, who, with God’s grace, kept the lamp of faith burning. May their intercession assist us in our trials and their example inspire us in our shared vocation to holiness.”

To be canonized as a saint, a deceased person must have performed at least two recorded miracles and led an exemplary Christian life.

Last month, Pope Leo XIV had anointed Carlo Acutis known as “God’s Influencer” and Pier Giorgio Frassati to sainthood.

Germany pay salaries of about 11,000 local employees working at U.S. military bases across the country

0

Germany has announced plans to cover the salaries of about 11,000 local employees working at U.S. military bases across the country after their pay was threatened by the ongoing U.S. government shutdown.

A spokesperson for the German Finance Ministry confirmed on Wednesday, October 22, that Berlin would approve an “unscheduled expenditure” to ensure that October salaries are paid on time.

“The federal government will initiate an unscheduled expenditure to ensure that October salaries are paid on time,” the spokeswoman said.

The move comes amid uncertainty over whether U.S. funds for the workers will be released during the shutdown. The affected employees are German nationals and other local staff employed at U.S. military facilities in Germany, including bases in Rhineland-Palatinate, Bavaria, and Hesse.

Trade union Verdi had earlier warned that workers could miss their pay if Washington failed to act, noting that local staff had continued to be paid during previous shutdowns. The union described any potential non-payment as a violation of German labor law and urged authorities to intervene to prevent financial hardship.

“The current U.S. administration appears likely to halt paycheques,” Verdi said in a statement, calling the move “unprecedented” and “legally questionable.”

According to the Finance Ministry, Germany reached an agreement with the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, home to several large American bases such as Ramstein Air Base, to guarantee the workers’ pay while awaiting reimbursement from the United States.

The spokeswoman emphasized that Berlin expects to be repaid once the U.S. government resumes normal financial operations, calling the intervention “a sign of solidarity with the U.S. armed forces stationed in Germany and their civilian employees.”

The temporary measure ensures that thousands of local staff, including maintenance workers, administrative personnel, and technical support staff, will continue receiving their salaries without interruption despite the political gridlock in Washington.

22-Day US Govt shutdown becomes second-longest in History

0

The ongoing US federal government shutdown became the second-longest in US history on Wednesday as it dragged into day 22 with no resolution in sight, surpassing the 1995-1996 lapse in funding.

Since October 1, Senate Democrats have repeatedly blocked Republican attempts to reopen the government, with all but three members of the caucus voting against a House-passed measure to fund federal agencies through November 21.

The Senate is scheduled to reconvene Wednesday to attempt yet again to end the shutdown, as Democratic leaders demand negotiations with President Trump.

Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer urged President Trump to meet and negotiate on resolving the health care crisis and ending what Schumer called the “Trump shutdown.” He told reporters, “We urged him to meet with us, and we said we’ll set up an appointment with him any time, any place before he leaves.”

However, House Speaker Mike Johnson maintains that no high-level meeting will occur until Democrats vote to reopen the government. Johnson relayed on X that President Trump “confirmed he is ready and willing for the three of us to meet with Leader Jeffries and Senator Schumer as soon as Schumer reopens the government.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune similarly signaled he is not interested in negotiating, telling reporters, “I don’t know what there is to negotiate. Open up the government first.” Thune indicated his strategy is to continue calling votes on the seven-week stopgap funding bill, despite Democratic opposition, believing they will “eventually… come around.”

President Trump, speaking at a White House gathering for congressional Republicans, likened the Democrats’ refusal to an extortion attempt, demanding they “vote for the clean bipartisan [continuing resolution] and reopen our government — it’s got to be reopened right now.”

Senator Schumer has insisted that Republicans include an extension of enhanced pandemic health insurance subsidies for approximately 22 million people who purchased policies on Affordable Care Act exchanges. The White House countered that these benefits do not expire until December 31, allowing time for negotiation once the government is operational again.

The shutdown’s escalating duration has severe consequences. Roughly 750,000 federal workers have been furloughed, and the Trump administration has begun the process to permanently lay off thousands. If the shutdown persists, federal workers will miss their first full paychecks on Friday, and members of the armed forces are at risk of not being paid the following week, on October 31.

The now second-longest shutdown surpasses the 21-day lapse in 1995-1996, which was triggered when then-President Bill Clinton vetoed a budget with spending cuts passed by the GOP-controlled Congress. The longest government shutdown in US history remains the 35-day shutdown of 2018-2019, which also occurred during President Trump’s first term.

TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR THE CONSTITUTIONAL TECHNICAL COMMITTEE WORRIES CF

… as party President Harry Kalaba says it is alarming that Government has chosen to resuscitate a process built on a foundation the Zambian people have already rejected

LUSAKA, Wednesday, October 22, 2025

Citizens First (CF) has expressed deep concern over the recently announced Terms of Reference (TORs) for the Technical Committee appointed to consult the people and draft a new Constitution.

CF party Mr. President Harry Kalaba says the concern stems from the fact that the terms of references are anchored on the contents of the Constitution (Amendment) Bill No.7, a document that was overwhelmingly rejected by key stakeholders, including the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and the Oasis Forum, among others.

Mr. Kalaba said it is therefore, alarming that Government has chosen to resuscitate a process built on a foundation the Zambian people have already rejected.

“This raises serious questions about the sincerity of the exercise and the Government’s commitment to genuine and inclusive constitutional reform,” Mr. Kalaba said.

“Even more worrying is that the TORs are silent on the timeframe and roadmap for the Constitution amendment process. This lack of clarity appears deliberate and designed to serve the narrow political interests of the UPND leadership rather than the greater good of the Zambian people,” He said.

Mr. Kalaba adds that the timing of the process, coming just months before the 2026 general elections, further confirms his party’s fears that the process is politically motivated.

“It seems intended to create an electoral advantage for the ruling party under the guise of constitutional reform. As Citizens First, we condemn this in the strongest terms possible and call upon all well-meaning Zambians to resist this manipulation of the Constitution for partisan interests,” He said.

“The Constitution is the soul of our democracy and must not be used as a political tool to entrench power. We demand transparency, inclusivity, and a clearly defined roadmap that reflects the aspirations of the people and not the ambitions of those in power,” Mr. Kalaba said.

“Furthermore, we note with disappointment that the Government continues to misplace its priorities. While we acknowledge the ongoing road rehabilitation in Lusaka’s Longacres area, such projects are of less economic significance compared to more critical and dilapidated roads such as the Pedicle Road, which connects the Copperbelt and Luapula Provinces, the Lundazi-Chipata Road, and the Chipata-Chadiza Road,” He adds.

The CF leader adds that government should have conducted a cost-benefit analysis to ensure resources are allocated where they will have the greatest national impact.

He said roads in Longacres are still usable, while many rural areas remain cut off from essential services and economic opportunities.

“As the rainy season approaches, some regions will again be cut off due to flooding, yet the Government has done little to mitigate or prepare for these predictable challenges. Instead, the UPND administration is focused on luxury roads and politically expedient projects that do not address the urgent needs of the people,” He said.

“Citizens First calls on the Government to rethink its priorities, listen to the voice of the people, and embark on a truly people-driven Constitution-making process which strengthens democracy instead of weakening it,” Mr. Kalaba said.
