Trump threatens to send federal troops into Chicago and New York City

Chicago and New York could be the next cities to see federal troops in the streets, US President Donald Trump has revealed

At a press conference in the Oval Office, Trump boasted about the National Guard presence he sent into Washington, D.C., last week, adding: “I think Chicago will be our next, and then we’ll help with New York.”

Trump said his administration is willing to bring in the “regular military” as well and asserted that Chicago residents are “screaming for us to come” and “wearing red hats, just like this one.”

The president continued: “African American ladies, beautiful ladies, are saying, ‘Please, President Trump, come to Chicago — please.’ I did great with the Black vote as you know, and they want something to happen.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson immediately issued a public statement in response to Trump’s threat, which read in part:

“Certainly, we have grave concerns about the impact of any unlawful deployment of National Guard troops to the City of Chicago. The problem with the President’s approach is that it is uncoordinated, uncalled for, and unsound. Unlawfully deploying the National Guard to Chicago has the potential to inflame tensions between residents and law enforcement when we know that trust between police and residents is foundational to building safer communities.”

On August 11, Trump declared a public safety emergency in Washington and federalized its police force, deploying hundreds of National Guard troops to crack down on what he called “out-of-control crime,” even as city leaders say violent crime in D.C. is at a 30-year low.

“We are not experiencing a crime spike,” Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser told MSNBC.

While Washington falls under federal authority as a city without statehood, National Guard units outside the nation’s capital fall under the authority of state governments.

California has sued the Trump administration for attempting to use the California National Guard to assist with immigration raids in Los Angeles without Gov. Gavin Newsom’s consent.

Newsom recently said he expects Trump to try to do the same elsewhere.

“This is a preview of things to come — if you think this is about California, you are fooling yourself,” he said. “These are operations you are going to see all across the United States of America. They’ve tested the boundaries of the law. They’ve tested the boundaries of public perception and what the public will accept.”

Trump was obsessed with Bolton in days before raid

0

Despite disavowals from Donald Trump that he was not aware of a planned raid on the home of John Bolton, White House insiders claim he had been obsessed with his former national security adviser for the past few weeks.

Questioned about the raid afterward, the president told reporters he was out of the loop and knew nothing about it, however, in interviews with the Washington Post, insiders said he not only was focusing on Bolton but that he dropped hints in the days before the raid.

As the Post’s Natalie Allison and Michael Birnbaum wrote, “People close to Trump have privately noted, however, that the president was bothered by Bolton’s recent deprecation of his attempts at peacemaking. And both Trump and some of his top appointees have talked openly about using the criminal justice system against his perceived enemies.”

The precipitating event appears to be Bolton’s very public rebuke of the Putin summit with the president watching TV news to see how his negotiations were being portrayed. He was particularly stung by Bolton’s criticism in multiple TV appearances, including his comment that the Russian strongman “…clearly won.”

The Post report notes, “Until Aug. 13, Bolton had not been a target of Trump’s social media attacks for seven months — since before Trump’s inauguration in January. That changed just over a week ago, when Trump became angry at a quote from Bolton and fired off a post on Truth Social expressing his frustration.”

According to the Post, “The president probably watched some of those appearances,” with one adviser admitting, “He lives for this stuff, so he’s watching it all day long.”

“The Justice Department’s decision to launch a probe into Bolton comes as top officials there have faced pressure from Trump’s base to take more aggressive action against so-called deep-state corruption,” the Post is reporting.

Like Samson, people in Nigeria think my power is in my armpit because they think I don’t shave – Burna Boy

Burna Boy has shared a common misconception Nigerians have about him.

The Nigerian singer granted an interview to an American host for Apple Music.

The host asked Burna to share one misconception people have about him during the interview.

The host said: “What would you say is a common misconception about Burna boy? What is something that people assume about you but theyre wrong?”

Burna Boy responded: “One is that I don’t like to shave my armpit. People think that is some… you know how Samson in the Bible is right?

“With the hair?” the host asked.

“With the hair,” Burna agreed.

He added that in the same way, some Nigerians have now started saying that his power is in his armpit hair.

The host asked if it is a Yoruba thing but the singer said it’s Nigerians spreading the rumour.

Intel has agreed to give the US government a 10 percent stake in its business

Chipmaker, Intel has agreed to give the US government a 10 percent stake in its business, according to a joint announcement by the company and President Donald Trump.

The deal follows Trump’s push for Intel to provide Washington with equity in exchange for major grants initially approved during Joe Biden’s presidency.

Under the agreement, the US government will receive 433.3 million shares of common stock, representing a 9.9 percent stake, valued at approximately $8.9 billion. The investment is partly funded by $5.7 billion in unpaid grants from the CHIPS and Science Act, alongside $3.2 billion from Intel’s Secure Enclave program.

Intel said this amount is in addition to $2.2 billion in CHIPS grants it has already received, bringing the total to $11.1 billion.

“The United States of America now fully owns and controls 10% of Intel,” Trump posted on Truth Social, claiming the country “paid nothing for these shares” following negotiations with Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan.

In a statement, Intel clarified that the government’s investment will be a passive ownership with no board representation or governance rights.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick described the agreement as a “historic step” that strengthens US leadership in semiconductors.

However, some analysts warned of potential risks. Independent tech analyst Rob Enderle called it “a slippery slope” toward nationalizing private businesses, while Scott Lincicome of the Cato Institute argued it could harm Intel’s long-term viability by injecting political influence into corporate decisions.

Intel CEO Tan maintained that the company remains committed to ensuring “the world’s most advanced technologies are American made,” noting plans to invest over $100 billion to expand its US operations.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia released from US jail, faces deportation to Uganda

Alleged MS-13 gang member and accused human smuggler Kilmar Abrego Garcia was released Friday, August 22, from a Tennessee jail and returned to his family in Maryland — but could be deported to Uganda as early as this weekend, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ordering him to check in Monday.

Abrego Garcia, 30, had been held at Putnam County Jail in Cookeville since June, after the Trump administration arranged for his return from El Salvador to face human smuggling charges.

US Magistrate Judge Barbara Holmes granted his release under strict conditions. He must wear an ankle monitor, remain under home detention at his brother’s Maryland residence, and report to ICE’s Baltimore office for supervision. He is permitted to leave only for work, religious services, or approved activities.

“While his release brings some relief, we all know that he is far from safe,” attorney Simon Sandoval-Mohensberg said, according to NBC News. “ICE detention or deportation to an unknown third country still threatens to tear his family apart.”

Abrego Garcia, a father of three, said in a statement:
“Today has been a very special day because I have seen my family for the first time in more than 160 days… We are steps closer to justice, but justice has not been fully served.”

Shortly after his release, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE informed his lawyers he could be deported to Uganda “no earlier than 72 hours from now,” sources told Fox News. He is required to report to ICE Baltimore at 8 a.m. Monday for an interview.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem sharply criticized the ruling, calling it “a new low.”
“By ordering this monster loose on America’s streets, the judge has shown a complete disregard for the safety of the American people,” she wrote on X.

Abrego Garcia was deported to El Salvador in March under President Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act but was brought back due to what officials called an “administrative error.” Authorities have claimed he is a “confirmed… ranking member of the MS-13 gang by a proven and reliable source,” though Abrego Garcia denies any gang affiliation.

The human smuggling allegations stem from a 2022 traffic stop in Tennessee, where he was pulled over with eight passengers but no luggage. He was not charged at the time.

Abrego Garcia has also faced accusations of physically abusing his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, a U.S. citizen who has nonetheless advocated for his return.

A White House spokesperson condemned the court decision:

“Abrego Garcia is a criminal illegal alien, wife-beater, and an MS-13 gang member facing serious charges of human smuggling,” Abigail Jackson said. “He will face justice for his crimes. It’s an insult to his victims that this left-wing magistrate intervened to put him back on the streets.”

Ghislaine Maxwell details relationship with Jeffrey Epstein

63-year-old former socialite, Ghislaine Maxwell, has given a detailed account of her relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein during interviews with the Department of Justice, according to audio tapes and transcripts released Friday, August 23.

Maxwell described her connection to Epstein as a mix of romantic hope and professional obligation, calling herself the “general manager” of his real estate portfolio. The interviews were conducted last month over two days by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in Tallahassee, Florida.

“We are in 1991, I met him at his offices on Madison Garden (sic). And I think the most memorable thing I can think about — that is he was wearing a tie, which he didn’t often do,” Maxwell recalled.

“It had a giant — seemed like a tomato ketchup stain on it. So I was like, wow, okay,” she added with a laugh.

She claimed she “slept with him one time” in 1992 and assumed they would start dating. “That’s the world I came from,” she said.

However, their relationship quickly became more complex. Epstein tasked her with finding him an apartment, which she did — securing a property from a former Iranian ambassador — while she lived in a small 10-by-10-foot unit. She described Epstein as her “life line” during this period.

From 1992 to 1996, the pair traveled extensively, including visits to Balmoral Cabin in England where they were hosted by Prince Andrew.

“Epstein told me he had a heart condition,” Maxwell said, explaining why they often shared a bed but did not engage in sexual intercourse.

“Which meant that he didn’t have intercourse a lot, which suited me fine, because I actually do have a medical condition which precludes me having a lot of intercourse,” she added.

Maxwell claimed Epstein preferred “other forms of sexual activities” while maintaining relationships with other women, including Eva Dubin, as later revealed in flight logs.

Professionally, she saw herself as “a general manager.“Because each property, to me, was like a — a hotel,” she explained, noting that her salary grew from $25,000 annually to $250,000 as she managed Epstein’s multi-million-dollar estates.

She admitted their sexual relationship ended in 1999, but it was the events of Sept. 11, 2001, that marked the final end of any romantic prospects.

“I definitely knew that it was over after 9/11, actually, because we were both in New York,” Maxwell said.

“And it was a scary time … And he wouldn’t come see me at all … And then I knew, as anyone did at that time, if you’re not going to be there for someone on 9/11, you’re never going to be there. So for me, that was the line’s end.”

Maxwell continued to work for Epstein, describing him as “like family,” until his conviction in 2008 for soliciting underage sex. He served 13 months in jail before dying by suicide in a Brooklyn lockup in 2019.

Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022 for recruiting and grooming underage victims for Epstein. She was quietly transferred to a minimum-security facility in Texas last month following her DOJ interviews.

MORE VOICES ON THE ARREST OF MARIA ZALOUMIS. “SHE HAD THE POWER TO STOP MURDER” – Masheke Akashambatwa
================

Maria Zaloumis as the owner and operator of the farm on which Simfukwe was beaten, tortured and later later died from his injuries had the power to stop it.

All those workers would’ve listened to her command to stop beating the young man and put him in the car to take him to the nearest police station.

Maria must be arrested at the very minimum on aiding and abetting in a commission of a crime under Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 section 21 of the laws of Zambia.

After that the family of Simfukwe must sue her estate.

CATHOLIC  BISHOP RAISES ALARM OVER MINING POLLUTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION

ZCCB RAISES ALARM OVER MINING POLLUTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION.

By Sandra Kunda

The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has expressed grave concern over the growing levels of pollution and environmental degradation in the country, accusing both government and mining companies of negligence that endangers human life and future generations.

In a pastoral statement issued in Lusaka, the bishops said the government has taken a “casual approach” to matters of life and death by failing to enforce environmental laws and ensure accountability for polluters.

“Negligence, revealed particularly in oversight, enforcement, and accountability, is a moral failing that directly contradicts our Christian duty to be stewards of God’s creation and to care for our neighbour, especially the most vulnerable,” the bishops said.

The statement comes in the wake of the recent toxic spillage into the Kafue River, which the Church says poses a “grave danger to public health and the environment  an unseen peril even to generations to come.”

Mining remains central to Zambia’s economy, but the bishops noted that communities on the Copperbelt and beyond have long suffered from pollution.

They cited the decades-long lead poisoning crisis in Kabwe and the destruction of rivers such as the Mushishima, as well as farmland around Chingola, as examples of ongoing environmental injustice.

“Several publicly available documentaries and research continue to shed light on the suffering endured by these communities – suffering too often diminished by companies offering paltry and meagre compensation for irreversible harm,” the statement reads.

The bishops further warned that the ongoing gold rush in Mpika, Rufunsa, Mumbwa, Kasempa, and Mufumbwe has exposed young Zambians to unsafe artisanal mining practices, including mercury poisoning and fatal mine collapses, due to poor regulation.

They urged the government to strengthen regulation, hold mining companies accountable for restoring damaged ecosystems, and create safe and regulated opportunities for Zambians, particularly the youth, to benefit from the country’s natural wealth.

“No community should be sacrificed for profit,” the bishops stressed. “True development must respect the dignity of every person, safeguard the environment, and promote the common good.”

The ZCCB reaffirmed its commitment to advocate for accountability, justice, and solidarity with affected communities, while calling on all Zambians to act responsibly and protect creation.

– *No minimum of 18 hours of reliable and predictable electricity* is provided.

– *Impact of Loadshedding*: Prolonged darkness has caused economic losses to people and businesses.

– *Past Promises*: President Hichilema promised to end loadshedding upon taking office, it has been a long 4 years of waiting for the President to fulfill his promise to end loadshedding.

why has Maria Zaloumis not been arrested?- Laura Miti

By Laura Miti

Took me a long while to watch the Enock Simfukwe video because I feared the beating, that allegedly caused his death, was recorded.

The short clip is no less disturbing. This is why.

Sitting there bound, hand and foot, begging for the cord around his ankles to be loosened because it was biting into him, the young man has probably been roughed up, but he is alright. He can speak lucidly.

So, Enock was apprehended, subdued and restrained.

I can’t stop asking myself what horror happened to him, after that video, that resulted in brain injury.

Did they savagely beat up a man tied up like that? One who could not escape.

Can you imagine how he begged for mercy.

I will end by asking the question everyone is – why has Maria Zaloumis not been arrested? Surely the most she can hope for is a court of law acquitting her.

Can the police give the public an explanation that makes sense?

Please do not let us hear that she has left the country.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA WILL WIN THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS WITH A LANDSLIDE VICTORY – GODAZA

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA WILL WIN THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS WITH A LANDSLIDE VICTORY – GODAZA

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Governance and development advocates zambia (godaza) has projected a landmark electoral victory for president Hakainde Hichilema in the upcoming 2026 general elections, forecasting that he will surpass the vote count achieved in the 2021 tripartite polls.

speaking to the media, godaza executive director Elias Mulenga attributed the anticipated win to the president’s consistent delivery on campaign promises and the tangible benefits citizens are experiencing under his administration.

mr. Mulenga cited free education, bursaries, university meal allowances, social cash transfers, cash-for-work programmes, and the creation of over 50,000 jobs as key achievements that have resonated with the Zambian people.

he further argued that the lack of credible leadership within the opposition has weakened its electoral prospects.

he emphasized that Zambians have moved on from past political rhetoric and are now more concerned with progress and stability.

according to mr. Mulenga, promoting an opposition candidate without a concrete national plan would be a waste of time and resources.

in a bold appeal, mr. Mulenga urged opposition parties to rally behind president Hichilema in 2026, not only to support the national development agenda but also to contribute to Zambia’s democratic process through constructive, policy-driven criticism.

he noted that the prevailing wind of change continues to favour president Hichilema, who has attracted significant foreign investment and remained undistracted by political innuendos.

mr. Mulenga also called on the UPND government and its members to prioritize national unity by embracing Zambia’s diversity and remaining actively engaged in democratic governance.

he concluded by cautioning that parliamentary and local government positions will be highly competitive, as many within the opposition are now seeking to work under “Bally,” whom he described as a tireless servant of the people.

Acting President of the Patriotic Front PF and Tonse Alliance Chairperson Given Lubinda has stated that there is no competition in the Alliance regarding the selection of a presidential candidate, as the matter is solely determined by the PF.

Speaking during an interview on Astro TV’s Your Voice governance program, Mr. Lubinda explained that the alliance constitution stipulates that the PF is the deciding authority on who should stand as presidential candidate under Tonse.

He further emphasized that any individual belonging to a political party outside the PF, but wishing to contest under the Tonse umbrella, would be required to defect and join the Patriotic Front first.

Mr. Lubinda maintained that the arrangement is in line with the spirit and guiding principles of the alliance, which he said places the PF at the core of its leadership decisions.

MUHABI LUNGU MISSES THE POINT ….OPPOSITION NEEDS STRUCTURES, NOT LECTURES

EDITOR’S CHOICE – MUHABI LUNGU MISSES THE POINT ….OPPOSITION NEEDS STRUCTURES, NOT LECTURES..

By Gregory Mofu

In his recent article titled “Unbridled and Unrealistic Presidential Ambitions,  An Achilles Heel for Political Cohesion Amongst the Opposition,” Muhabi Lungu paints a gloomy picture of opposition politics, dismissing many as delusional presidential hopefuls.

While he marshals statistics to show how difficult it is to win State House, his analysis misses the real point. The crisis in Zambia’s opposition is not merely about ambition. It is about organization. And without addressing that, no amount of finger pointing will change the equation.

As of today, Zambia does not have an opposition leader who can genuinely inspire the masses. That is the blunt truth. The frustration ordinary citizens feel with government does not automatically translate into support for the opposition, because there is no figure or party that has built the kind of ground game capable of turning discontent into votes. People want change, but they also want to see seriousness in terms of structures, mobilization, and presence across the country.

Muhabi is right about one thing: unity is necessary if the opposition is to stand a chance in 2026. But unity cannot be built on air. Parties that come to the alliance table without members, without structures and without clear policies are bringing nothing to the equation. They weaken the collective rather than strengthen it. An alliance of empty shells is not a winning strategy, it is a recipe for ridicule.

And here is where Muhabi must look in the mirror. He is spokesperson of Zambia We Want, a party widely perceived by the public as having no real structures on the ground. How then can it be taken seriously in an alliance? How can it lecture other parties about maturity when it has not yet demonstrated the organizational backbone to stand on its own? Before telling others to tame their ambitions, should it not first prove that it exists beyond press statements and elite circles?

The truth is that alliances work only when parties bring something to the table. Frederick Chiluba’s MMD in 1991 was powered by the unions, real people, organized and mobilized. Michael Sata’s PF was built brick by brick, election after election, with a loyal base that never gave up.

These were not creations of wishful thinking or clever rhetoric. They were organizations rooted in communities.
So yes, the opposition must unite. But first, it must organize. The hard, unglamorous work of building branches, recruiting members and presenting credible policies must take precedence. Otherwise, talk of unity is meaningless. And no amount of condescending lectures will substitute for the structures that actually win elections.

That is why it is refreshing to see figures like Ms. Dolika Banda step onto the political scene. Muhabi dismisses such entrants as mere dreamers, but perhaps it is exactly those dreams that will one day come true. Zambia’s democracy has always been moved forward by men and women who dared to dream against the odds. Instead of ridiculing them, we should welcome new energy and ideas into the national conversation.

Until the opposition produces leaders who combine ambition with real structures, it will remain weak. And until parties like Zambia We Want prove they exist beyond rhetoric, their lectures will ring hollow. Zambians deserve more than statistics and cynicism, they deserve a credible alternative that is serious, organized and inspiring.

State Prosecutor Disputes “Sick Note” as Malanji Skips Court on Judgement Day.

State Prosecutor Disputes “Sick Note” as Malanji Skips Court on Judgement Day.

Court drama took a comic twist after Principal State Prosecutor Mwangala Mwala questioned the authenticity of a medical note tendered to explain the absence of former Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji.

The document, instead of naming the accused as Joseph Malanji, boldly carried the signature of a mysterious “Joe Malanji” as if the court was dealing with a casual footballer on the weekend team sheet rather than a man facing corruption charges.

Adding to the puzzle, the note never even bothered to name the supposed illness. It simply read like a school excuse letter written in a rush: “Please excuse Joe, he is not feeling well.”

Prosecutor Mwala was unimpressed, insisting that the doctor who authored the “mystery note” should appear in court. “We can’t have corruption trials postponed over invisible coughs and nameless diseases,” she argued, warning against using vague medical papers as courtroom shields.

Observers couldn’t resist a chuckle, with one court-goer whispering: “If this note passes, tomorrow someone will come with a chit saying ‘Absent due to bad hair day.’”

POLICE POST STOLEN…recovered in Makeni

CONTAINER USED AS SANGALALA POLICE POST STOLEN

……recovered in Makeni

Lusaka… Friday August 22, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

The Zambia Police Service has recovered a container that was previously used as Sangalala Police Post after it was stolen in Lusaka.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the development in a statement issued to Smart Eagles that, the incident was reported to Balmoral Police Station on August 21, 2025, around 17:45 hours by Nancy Nambela Nakaponda, 58, of Roma Park.

Mr. Hamoonga explained that the stolen property was a 40-foot container, painted white, blue and green, valued at K75,000.

The facility had initially been donated to the Zambia Police Service by a Chinese national and was being used as Sangalala Police Post.

“Following the death of the donor, his widow, who is the complainant, demanded that the Police should pay K80,000 in order to continue using the facility. After several meetings with the Lusaka Division Command failed to resolve the matter, Police operations were relocated to Bonaventure Police Post, leaving the container vacant,” Mr. Hamoonga stated.

He said officers quickly moved in after receiving the report and managed to intercept the container at Makeni Grey Zulu near Oasis Fuel Station along 70/70 Road.

He added that it was found loaded on a crane truck, registration number BBC 9361, driven by Nevers Njovu, 36, of Garden House.

“Upon interview, the driver revealed that he had been booked by William Kabonde, 42, of Linda Compound, a paralegal officer at Aston Kasongo Patrick, a Human Rights & Labour Consultant of Lusaka. Also on board was Trywell Muyembe, 29, of Garden House, who had been picked up to help load the container,” Mr. Hamoonga said.

He disclosed that the truck was impounded and all three occupants were detained. Kabonde has since been charged with theft, while investigations continue regarding the other suspects.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the container was destined for Chinika Industrial Area.

Mr. Hamoonga added that both the impounded crane truck and the recovered container are currently secured at Bonaventure Police Post.

“The Zambia Police Service wishes to assure members of the public that we remain committed to bringing perpetrators of crime to book and safeguarding property,” Mr. Hamoonga said.

GOVERNMENT ASSURES NATION OF ADEQUATE DIESEL SUPPLY

GOVERNMENT ASSURES NATION OF ADEQUATE DIESEL SUPPLY

LUSAKA — The Ministry of Energy has moved to allay fears of a fuel shortage, assuring the public that Zambia has adequate diesel stocks to meet national demand despite reports of isolated disruptions at some filling stations.

In a statement issued by Energy Minister Mr. Makozo Chikote, the Ministry said that as of 21st August 2025, the country had 64,876,487 litres of diesel in stock, enough to cover 14 days of national consumption.

A nationwide survey of 650 filling stations conducted in collaboration with the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) revealed that; 456 stations were dispensing both diesel and petrol; 33 stations were dispensing only diesel;125 stations were dispensing only petrol, and 36 stations had temporarily run out of stock.

“These figures confirm that fuel supply across the country is sufficient,” the statement read.

The Ministry attributed the reported shortages to localised supply chain bottlenecks rather than a national stock deficit. It said measures were already underway to stabilise the situation and prevent future disruptions.

Among the interventions, the ERB has intensified spot checks in collaboration with TAZAMA to ensure that uplifted fuel reaches intended destinations, particularly retail consumers.

Additionally, the government is working to facilitate timely fuel imports through the TAZAMA Open Access framework to maintain adequate reserves.

Mr. Chikote reiterated government’s commitment to transparency, assuring the public that regular updates will continue to be provided on the fuel situation.

PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S STATEMENT ON THE PRIVATE SECTOR

PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S STATEMENT ON THE PRIVATE SECTOR

While President Hakainde Hichilema speaks of engagement with the private sector and the need for collaboration, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The Zambian private sector the very backbone of our economy continues to suffer under his administration.

Prolonged load shedding has crippled manufacturing, mining, and SMEs, dragging productivity to its lowest levels. No amount of consultation at State House can substitute for stable and reliable electricity, which is the lifeblood of any modern economy.

As if this is not enough, we are grappling with high fuel prices and, currently, a shortage of diesel a major driver of the economy in terms of the transportation of goods and services. Yet President Hichilema remains detached, speaking as though he is out of touch with the daily struggles of our people.

Policy implementation has also been weak and selective. While government speeches promise inclusivity, the reality is different. Implementation has been poor and, in many instances, skewed in favour of small-scale enterprises, leaving medium and large-scale industries exposed to unfair competition and high operational costs.

Equally, despite acknowledging that growth comes from a thriving private sector, this government has failed to provide even the most basic support framework predictable policies, reduced red tape, energy stability, and a level playing field in both domestic and export markets.

The President continues to hide behind endless consultations, but consultations without tangible outcomes have become the hallmark of his government. The private sector does not need more empty meetings it needs an environment where investments can thrive, jobs can be created, effective representation of workers in private sector especially where salaries is concerned cause most of have poor salary and working conditions. Zambians can prosper with good, focused, action oriented, patriotic and visionary leadership with clear intent to serve the country not personal ambition.

President Hichilema has always branded himself as a successful businessman and an economist. Yet in practice, he has failed to apply even the most basic principles of business and economic sense in managing the economy. No credible business leader would promise growth while presiding over power shortages, fuel crises, inconsistent tax policies, and weak policy execution. This contradiction exposes a clear hypocrisy between the President’s rhetoric and his actual delivery.

Until he demonstrates genuine leadership by ending prolonged load shedding with practical solutions, implementing fair policies across all sectors, and building investor confidence through consistency and transparency, his statements of partnership will remain nothing more than empty rhetoric.

The Zambian private sector deserves better than promises. Sadly, President Hichilema is still behaving like an opposition leader who can afford to keep making promises, forgetting that he is in the driver’s seat a seat he fought tooth and nail to occupy. Yet without a clear roadmap and vision, Zambia will remain stuck in cycles of mismanagement and circus politics, where national resources and government machinery are auctioned off for personal gain.

The most unfortunate aspect of President Hichilema’s administration is the absence of a good governance culture. A modern government must embrace the King IV Principles of ethical culture, good performance, effective control, and legitimacy. These four pillars are not just ideals they are the foundation of good governance and a healthy democracy. Yet under this administration, they remain completely ignored.

Instead, what we see are unproductive and oppressive laws such as the Cyber Security Bill designed to gag citizens from questioning government, alongside Bills 7 and 13, which serve personal ambition rather than national interest. Meanwhile, productive laws and policies that could uplift the lives of ordinary Zambians remain neglected.

DESPICABLE: Zambian Teenage Girls Soccer Players Held S33x Party On The Eve Of Winning Their COSAFA U-20 Trophy In Namibia

DESPICABLE: Zambian Teenage Girls Soccer Players Held Sex Party On The Eve Of Winning Their COSAFA U-20 Trophy In Namibia

Officials leading the Zambian delegation to Namibia for the Zone 5 Regional Games were last month forced to tear a door apart to gain access to what had become the venue of girls enjoying each other in their humanly pleasures.

Suspicions were rife in camp when a good number of the girls disappeared from the vicinity on the eve of the final (July 12, 2025) prompting the officials to launch a search campus.

By 23:00 hours, the gut feeling of the officials sent them to the Captains Room at the University of Namibia in Windhoek.

True to their suspicion, there was sudden silence. The heavy breathing and giggling disappeared. Lights went off.

Some went under the bed and others sought refuge in the ceiling. Their names called, but none was answering.

Officials took matters in their hands; tore the door apart – and boom the stars of tomorrow had just been interrupted from continuing to feast on each other.

There was commotion. Officials were livid, but what could they do. The girls were playing the final of the regional tournament the following day. Instead of focusing on the game, they were slicing each other left, right and center.

Some officials even demanded that those caught should not play, others said it was okay to feature them.

The team went on to win the title. One of them scored both on and off the pitch.

Evidently, there’s fear among officials. They are gutted. If nothing is done, worse is to come – many fear.

The Zambian junior and senior  girls national teams have become a den of same sex affairs.

If girls as young as 17 or so can be engaging in such acts which are illegal in their country, the practice is now cancerous.

Now is the time to either accept or arrest the situation. The choice is ours as a country. Let’s do something.

“NO, BARCELONA DID NOT BID $1.5 MILLION FOR BARBRA BANDA”

“NO, BARCELONA DID NOT BID $1.5 MILLION FOR BARBRA BANDA”

By Caleb Chikele ✍🏼

Rumors have been swirling across Zambian social media claiming that Spanish giants FC Barcelona tabled a $1.5 million bid for Zambia’s star striker Barbra Banda. However, credible reports and official confirmations prove otherwise—Barcelona never made such an offer.

While whispers of Barcelona interest spread quickly in Zambia and beyond, Orlando Pride officials swiftly shut down the speculation.
Haley Carter, the club’s Vice President and General Manager, clarified:

“Barcelona hasn’t approached us. If they had, it’s correct that she isn’t for sale.”

This statement makes it clear that Banda is firmly part of Orlando Pride’s future plans, with no negotiations taking place with Barcelona or any other European club.

Why the Rumor Spread?

The speculation likely stems from Banda’s meteoric rise in global football. With her scoring ability and leadership for both club and country, she is the type of player who could easily fit into Barcelona’s dominant women’s squad. However, at this stage, the $1.5 million figure is nothing more than unverified chatter.

Though the Barcelona link was only rumor, Banda’s career trajectory shows no sign of slowing down. She remains one of Africa’s biggest football exports, inspiring a new generation of Zambian girls to dream big on the global stage.

Zuma calls for single African currency to boost continental trade

Zuma calls for single African currency to boost continental trade

Former President Jacob Zuma has called for the introduction of a single African currency, arguing that the continent’s heavy reliance on the US Dollar hinders intra-continental trade.

Speaking at the University of Professional Studies in Accra, Ghana, Zuma emphasized that a unified currency could reduce transaction costs, simplify trade, and strengthen economic unity across Africa.

The concept of a single currency has been discussed for decades within the African Union, alongside initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to boost trade across the continent.

However, experts caution that economic disparities, divergent monetary policies, and political resistance make the realization of a single African currency a complex and long-term goal.

MALAWI’S OPPOSITION ALLIANCE COLLAPSES AS UTM QUESTIONS MUTHARIKA’S ABILITY TO LEAD AT 88

MALAWI’S OPPOSITION ALLIANCE COLLAPSES AS UTM QUESTIONS MUTHARIKA’S ABILITY TO LEAD AT 88.

By: Zodiak online

Malawi’s United Transformation Movement (UTM) has accused the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of refusing to form an alliance because of concerns about the age of its leader, former President Peter Mutharika.

According to UTM leader’s advisor, Noel Masangwi, the DPP knows that Mutharika, who is 88 years old, would struggle to complete a full five-year term if he won this year’s presidential election. For that reason, Masangwi said, the DPP rejected a proposal that Mutharika’s successor could come from UTM.

Speaking at a political rally in Chikwawa District, Masangwi explained that the DPP insisted on controlling all senior positions, which blocked the possibility of the two opposition parties working together in the upcoming election.

In response, DPP member Leonard Chimbanga wrote on social media that UTM’s statements prove the alliance should never have been considered, since UTM does not wish Mutharika well.

Cameroon’s Constitutional Council will on Friday deliver a ruling on a petition seeking to block President Paul Biya from contesting for an eighth term in office

#Update DW Africa reports that Cameroon’s Constitutional Council will on Friday deliver a ruling on a petition seeking to block President Paul Biya from contesting for an eighth term in office.

The case, filed by opposition lawyer Akere Tabeng Muna, cites Biya’s age of 92, his frequent medical absences, and his reliance on aides as grounds for disqualification under the electoral code.

Muna maintains the petition is a legal necessity, not a political attack.

The challenge comes amid doubts over the vote’s credibility, following the Council’s decision to bar leading opposition candidate Maurice Kamto — a move that triggered protests in the capital, Yaounde.

Biya has been in power since 1982, has already confirmed his candidacy on social media.

Malawians will go to the polls on September 16 to elect a President, Parliamentarians and Ward Councillors.

Former president and DPP leader, Peter Mutharika, who is in his 80s, is among those aspiring for the presidency.

Trump Wants Black Federal Reserve Governor to Resign. She Responds

1

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook rejected Donald Trump’s demand that she should resign over mortgage fraud allegations. As the first Black woman to serve on the Fed board, she said she will not be pressured to step down and is preparing to address the claims.

According to Newsweek, Trump’s call came after Federal Housing Finance Authority director William Pulte sent a referral to Attorney General Pam Bondi, accusing Cook of listing multiple homes in Michigan and Georgia as primary residences on mortgage applications.

Cook, appointed to the Fed by President Joe Biden in 2022 and reappointed in 2023 for a 14-year term, said she is taking the accusations seriously. She explained that she is gathering records to provide accurate answers, adding, “I have no intention of being bullied to step down from my position because of some questions raised in a tweet.”

The dispute adds to Trump’s ongoing battles with the Federal Reserve. He has repeatedly urged the central bank to cut interest rates and has often attacked Fed Chair Jerome Powell, calling him “too late Powell” and a “numbskull.” While Trump has floated the idea of firing Powell before his term ends in 2026, he has said it is “unlikely.”

Analysts caution that efforts to remove Cook or Powell could harm the Fed’s independence and credibility, sparking market concerns. If vacancies opened, Trump would have the chance to strengthen his influence over the central bank by appointing replacements.

Pulte alleged that Cook falsified bank documents to secure favorable loan terms. So far, neither the Justice Department nor Bondi has announced whether they will investigate the claim.

Cook is not the only Democrat facing mortgage scrutiny under Trump’s administration. California Senator Adam Schiff and New York Attorney General Letitia James are also under review for similar allegations.

Despite the mounting pressure, Cook emphasized her commitment to transparency. “I do intend to take any questions about my financial history seriously as a member of the Federal Reserve and so I am gathering the accurate information to answer any legitimate questions and provide the facts,” she said.

President Trump is “Serious” About Wanting to Go to Heaven

President Donald Trump said that helping end the Russia-Ukraine war could be his way into heaven. He admitted he is “at the bottom of the totem pole” when it comes to his chances of getting there.

“I want to try and get to heaven, if possible,” Trump said during a Fox & Friends interview. “I hear I’m not doing well. I am really at the bottom of the totem pole.” He laughed before adding that achieving peace in Ukraine might help him earn his place.

Trump tied the idea of diplomacy to divine reward, suggesting that saving lives through negotiations could strengthen his spiritual standing. He presented his role as peacemaker as part of a higher purpose.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump was not joking about the remarks. She stated that “the president was serious” in connecting peace efforts with his hope of entering heaven, according to WBLS.

The remarks quickly drew attention. Critics, former aides, and political observers questioned whether the comments signaled deeper concerns, citing Trump’s recent public appearances, energy levels, and overall health.

Groups such as the Lincoln Project and American Bridge 21st Century highlighted his “bottom of the totem pole” remark, linking it to speculation about his mental sharpness and stamina.

In recent months, Trump has leaned more on religious language. After surviving an assassination attempt last year, he said he was “saved by God” and often invokes divine guidance when discussing global conflicts.

He continues to present himself as a “mediator-in-chief,” citing his involvement in conflicts in the Middle East and South Asia, though many of those claims remain disputed. He also ties his pursuit of recognition, such as the Nobel Peace Prize, to his hope for spiritual validation.

Man Who Confessed To Stabbing Ex And Current Girlfriend On TikTok Finally Arrested

The Gauteng man who confessed on TikTok to stabbing his ex and current girlfriend within hours of each other has finally been arrested.

The 26-year-old man is behind bars after a violent rampage that left one woman dead and another critically injured, ending in a startling social media confession.

Details of the Violent Incidents
According to North West police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh, the events unfolded on Thursday. The suspect is accused of first fatally stabbing his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend, Kgaugelo Marota, outside a tavern in Maubane village.

Following this alleged attack, the man reportedly returned to his residence in the nearby area of Carousel View. There, he is accused of turning his violence towards his current girlfriend, stabbing her multiple times. The surviving victim was rushed to a hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries.

Man Who Confessed To Stabbing Ex And Current Girlfriend On TikTok Finally Arrested
The investigation took a turn when a video confession, allegedly posted by the suspect himself, began circulating on social media platforms. In the widely shared clip, an individual expressing remorse admits to the stabbing of Marota, though he claims the act was not planned in advance.

Police confirmed awareness of the video and used information to track down the individual. North West police carried out his arrest in the early hours of Friday morning.

Court Proceedings Loom for Murder and Attempted Murder
The suspect is now in custody and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance at the Temba magistrate’s court on Monday. He will be formally charged with murder for the death of Kgaugelo Marota and attempted murder for the attack on his current partner.

TWO MOUNTAINS  REJECTS ZAMBIAN GOVT’S DEMAND TO INSPECT BODY OF EDGAR  LUNGU IN PRETORIA

TWO MOUNTAINS  REJECTS ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT’S DEMAND TO INSPECT BODY OF ECL IN PRETORIA

Pretoria, 22nd August, 2025

Two Mountains Funeral Parlour has declined the Hakainde Hichilema led government’s demand to inspect the body of late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, pointing them to the ongoing court cases read together with Article 18 of the Supreme Court of South Africa.

In a letter seen by Smart Eagles in Pretoria, South Africa, from Two Mountains Funeral Parlour addressed to the Hakainde Hichilema-led regime lawyers VFV Attorneys, the funeral service provider stated that its contractual obligations and professional duties were strictly tied to the Lungu family, identified as the “First to Seventh Respondents” in the ongoing legal matter.

The firm emphasized that it was bound by confidentiality, as well as court orders issued on 25 June 2025 and 2 July 2025, and would not allow any inspection of the body without written consent from the Lungu family, being the First to Seventh Respondents.

“Accordingly, we will not permit any inspection of the body or disclosure of any related documentation, including any pathologist or embalmer report, without your client’s prior written consent,” the letter reads in part.

The Hakainde Hichilema led Zambian Government had earlier written to the funeral parlour demanding the commissioning of a pathologist and Zambian special envoys of President Hakainde to inspect the remains of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, but the funeral home would not proceed unless expressly instructed by the Lungu family. It also underscored that any such process would need prior agreement on costs.

And in addressing the now-rumored concerns allegedly stating that the remains of the late President are concerning, the funeral parlour reassured that the remains of the late President Lungu continue to be preserved in accordance with their standard operating procedures, and there are presently no visible changes to their condition.

Following the ruling of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, the Lungu family have since appealed to the Constitutional Court for interpretation, as they state that the High Court erred in its judgment on many grounds, including using Zambian law in determining a matter that was before the law of South Africa.

Article 18″ in the context of the South African Supreme Court refers to Section 18 of the Superior Courts Act 10 of 2013, which dictates that the operation and execution of a court order are automatically suspended pending a decision on an application for leave to appeal or an actual appeal, unless the court orders otherwise in exceptional circumstances. This means that if a party appeals a decision, the court order generally cannot be enforced until the appeal is heard”

Given the Article 18 of the South African Supreme Court act 10 of 2013 the requests made by the Zambian Government can not be adhered to because as it stands the Zambian Government has no jurisdiction or right to request inspect the remains of the late President while the matter is now with the Constitutional court of South Africa.

OPPOSITION WILL WIN IN 2026, SAYS PROFESSOR MOONGA

OPPOSITION WILL WIN IN 2026, SAYS PROFESSOR MOONGA

By Prof. Proud Moonga, PhD, Lecturer, University of Michigan

Let me be clear: the most tribal government of the UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema have betrayed the Zambian people. They came into power on a wave of hope but have delivered economic collapse, political persecution, and unrestrained corruption. What was promised as a new dawn has turned into a dark chapter. The UPND has become a danger to democracy, and Hichilema’s government has lost all legitimacy. They are a failed project and the people know it.

The 2026 elections will sweep them out, but removing the UPND is not enough. Zambia needs a complete national overhaul: a new system of governance, new leadership, and a development strategy that puts Zambians first, not foreign interests or political cronies.

This starts with urgent institutional reforms. The Zambia Police Service must be depoliticized and professionalized. It exists to protect citizens, not to serve as a private militia for politicians. The judiciary must be made truly independent, with all judicial appointments, including the Chief Justice and deputies handled by the Judicial Service Commission, subject to parliamentary scrutiny. No more backdoor appointments.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia must also be rebuilt. As long as the president appoints the ECZ Chairperson and Commissioners, elections will never be free or fair. This power must be transferred to the Chief Justice, an impartial figure, to ensure electoral integrity.

We must also reject career politicians and businessmen who see politics as a personal business venture. What Zambia needs is a people’s president, a servant leader, with no baggage, no links to corruption, and no loyalty to failed systems. While the people’s president will be elected through a general election, the process of identifying the people’s candidate must begin now.

That’s why I am making a direct appeal to Mr. Brebner Changala, a respected voice of conscience and a fearless advocate for justice, to spearhead the People’s Candidate Movement.

This movement should bring together a coalition of priests, traditional leaders, civil society organisations, labour unions, community leaders, and other interest groups with a clear and urgent purpose:

1. To identify a viable, clean, and nationally acceptable people’s candidate,

2. To foster unity among opposition political parties around that candidate, and

3. To establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)—a political platform for the candidate and all supporting structures including MPs, mayors, council chairpersons, and councillors to contest the 2026 elections under a united banner.

This movement must not wait for career politicians to anoint one of their own. It must be people-led, transparent, and rooted in national interest not tribal, partisan, or elitist interests.

In this national effort, the Bemba and Eastern communities have a critical role to play. Far from being tribal, as some would falsely claim, these regions are currently politically marginalized. Yet they hold immense political weight. Their leadership is needed not for regional dominance, but to help unify the country behind a candidate who represents all Zambians, regardless of tribe or province. The people’s candidate can, and should, come from any part of Zambia, including Bemba or Eastern regions, as long as they are credible, clean, and committed to the people.

Let there be no illusions: the tribal UPND government is finished. But our focus must be bigger than just defeating a failed regime. We must build a new political culture, one that rejects corruption, tribalism, recycled leadership, and weak governance.

The People’s Candidate Movement must become the beginning of that new era. Let Mr. Changala take up this responsibility with the full support of patriotic Zambians. Let the institutions of moral authority, the Church, LAZ, traditional leaders, unions, civil society and youth, rally behind the process.

2026 must not just be an election. It must be a reset. A revolution. A new beginning. Led by the people, for the people, through the people.

EULOGY TAKES CENTER STAGE AS GOVT BARS COMMENT ON EDGAR  LUNGU

EULOGY TAKES CENTER STAGE AS GOVT BARS COMMENT ON ECL

By Brian Matambo – LUSAKA, Zambia

The Zambian government has directed ministries and agencies to refrain from issuing public statements on the ongoing court case and funeral arrangements for the late Sixth President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

In a circular dated August 20, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa announced that his office will be the “sole and exclusive source for all official statements” regarding the burial process. The directive, copied to senior officials including the State House Private Secretary and Cabinet Deputies, is aimed at consolidating communication during a highly sensitive period.

The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has echoed the government’s position, with its Secretary General Batuke Imenda instructing party members to avoid public commentary on the matter.

Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba, Patriotic Front Chairperson for Information, welcomed the announcements, describing them as an opportunity to halt hostile communication and create space for renewed negotiations between the state and the Lungu family. He urged government-aligned media outlets and online surrogates to also respect the directive, saying this would help rebuild trust and mend relations.

Beyond the political truce, a broader call has emerged to use this moment to celebrate Dr. Lungu’s legacy. Supporters and admirers have been urged to remember him not only as a politician but as a leader who championed development and faith in equal measure.

His tenure was marked by transformation across nearly every sector of the nation. The Dundumwezi all-weather road, the rehabilitation of the Kafue–Mazabuka road, the roll-out of 650 rural health posts, expansion of airport infrastructure, and a strengthened Farmer Input Support Programme were only snapshots of a much larger legacy.

Dr. Lungu’s administration oversaw unprecedented infrastructure expansion, including the upgrading of Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Airport in Ndola, and Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Airport in Livingstone. New highways and feeder roads connected rural farmers to markets, while urban road works modernized Lusaka and the Copperbelt.

In health, beyond the 650 health posts, he championed the construction and rehabilitation of district hospitals and invested in medical equipment and staff recruitment. His steady hand during the  pandemic provided continuity and calm, while his leadership in times of drought emphasized the power of prayer and unity.

The energy sector saw the completion of the Itezhi-Tezhi hydro project, expansion of Kariba North Bank, and investment in solar initiatives to stabilize Zambia’s power supply. In agriculture, the effective rollout of FISP and investment in irrigation helped shield farmers from climate shocks.

In education, his government built not just classroom blocks but entirely new schools, colleges, and universities across the country, expanding access to learning and professional training for thousands of young Zambians. Teacher recruitment and bursary programs complemented the infrastructure drive, helping to open opportunities for a new generation.

Social protection programs, including the expansion of the Social Cash Transfer scheme, targeted vulnerable households.

On the diplomatic front, Dr. Lungu’s tenure strengthened Zambia’s presence regionally and internationally, hosting high-level summits and maintaining cordial ties across Africa and beyond.

Yet these examples remain only a tip of the iceberg. In just seven years, Dr. Lungu presided over an era of visible and lasting change, leaving an imprint on Zambia’s infrastructure, health care, agriculture, energy, education, and social fabric. His leadership style combined firmness with prayerful humility, anchoring policies with compassion.

“Now that the hostility is over, let us eulogise our leader, our mentor, our former president, and the author of Plan B,” reads one appeal. “What a leader ECL was. His love was loud. Let us shine a bright light on his life and his legacy.”

Supporters are being encouraged to make videos, write reflections, or offer prayers for the late president’s spirit and for the Lungu family.

As the legal and political processes unfold, a parallel movement of remembrance is taking shape, seeking to honor the humanity, kindness, and leadership of Edgar Chagwa Lungu, a legacy whose full breadth and depth continues to inspire reflection.

KALABA CAN’T BE GIANT WITH 3 VOTES IN BY-ELECTIONS – MUHABI

Zambia We Want spokesperson Muhabi Lungu says he does not believe in conjecture, wondering why Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba and his party have been getting 3 votes in some by-elections if he claims to be a political giant.

In an interview yesterday in Lusaka, Lungu said 10 key opposition parties, including the top five in the 2021 general elections, with the exception of CF, have been meeting to strategise on how to work together.

Asked on his statement that President Hakainde Hichilema benefited from splits in MMD, and why Kalaba or any other could not benefit from the wrangles in the main opposition PF, Lungu responded: “On what basis given the fact that he (Kalaba) got O.

PRESIDENTIAL AND NATIONAL LEADERSHIP COUNCIL ELECTIONS IN THE ZAMBIA WE WANT PARTY SET FOR SEPTEMBER 2025

PRESIDENTIAL AND NATIONAL LEADERSHIP COUNCIL ELECTIONS IN THE ZAMBIA WE WANT PARTY SET FOR SEPTEMBER 2025

By Muhabi Lungu

The Zambia We Want Party (ZWW),  at its meeting of the National Leadership Council (NLC), held in early July 2025 decided to hold elections in order to bring Permanency to the NLC, and give it Cohesion and the required Legitimacy towards effective preparations for the Party’s participation in the Presidential and General Elections of 2026.

In this regard, the Party has invited a number of reputable and independent institutions in the country that will comprise an Independent Electoral Commission (IEC); an umpire outside the control of the Party or any of the respective aspirants for leadership positions

The NLC already agreed on the rules and regulations that will govern the electoral process in conformity with the Party Constitution. The electoral guidelines will be made available to the general public. It is the objective of ZWW to conduct an Open, Transparent, Free and Fair selection process that upholds democratic norms and standards. Every member of the party is eligible to participate.

The elections are planned to be held in the first half of September  2025. The exact dates shall be set by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). Furthermore, the IEC will consult with the Head of the Party, who is not eligible to contest as a Presidential candidate.

*Ideological Framework*

The Party wishes to emphasise that the process of unveiling its Manifesto and Constitution to the public was deliberately done before elections, to ensure that the aspiring and subsequently elected Presidential Candidate and the leadership must pay allegiance to the core beliefs, values and principles of the Party. This is intended to guarantee that no single individual shall override the institutional and Constitutional integrity of the Party.

*Commitment to a United Opposition Front*

Finally, the selection of its leadership is being conducted in view of the Party’s continued commitment towards the idea of being part of a viable United Opposition Front for the Presidential and General Elections for 2026.

Muhabi Lungu, A Boardroom Politician without a Constituency- Carlos Mukoma Chishiki

Muhabi Lungu, A Boardroom Politician without a Constituency.

Muhabi Lungu has never won an election in his political life. The last time he attempted to contest in Lusaka Central, he was so thoroughly defeated that he quietly slipped into partial retirement. Yet today, he parades himself as though he were a seasoned, all knowing politician.

The truth is, Muhabi’s career has been that of a boardroom politician detached from the people and with nothing tangible to show. Recently, he went as far as announcing the formation of a political party, “The Zambia We Want.” Unfortunately, it never went beyond the press announcement. No structures, no presence even in Lusaka Province where he lives, nothing but empty talk.

Now he wants to belittle men like Harry Kalaba, leaders he cannot even begin to match in record, sacrifice, or rights. If Muhabi is truly serious about politics, let him start by re-contesting in Lusaka Central. If, and only if, he wins, then perhaps Zambians can begin to take him seriously. But let’s be honest: that is unlikely to happen in the next decade.

We are tired of political jokers with no following, no structures, and no experience trying to undermine genuine political players who have fought hard, won the people’s trust, and earned the experience to sit at the apex of governance.

Muhabi would do well to first mobilize his so called party, open a secretariat, and show us he has followers on the ground. Only then can his perspective on alliances carry any weight.

When foolishness is disguised as patriotism, wisdom is always under attack.

Gentleness is power and influence under control.

FIVE ZAMMSA SENIOR OFFICIALS SENT ON FORCED LEAVE AMID CORRUPTION PROBE

FIVE senior officials at the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) have been sent on forced leave to allow for a corruption investigation.

Speaking during a briefing today, Health Minister Dr. Elijah Muchima confirmed that this is to follow a forensic audit into the systematic theft of medicines and medical supplies.

The stolen items, funded by taxpayers and international grants, were allegedly diverted to private pharmacies.

Dr Muchima adds that  everyone implicated will face the law accordingly, without fear or favor as note the number of suspects has grown and confirmed a full management reset is underway at ZAMMSA.

He says that the investigation stems from an Inter-Agency Task Force established in November 2023 to tackle the widespread pilferage at the agency.

UPND SAYS MURDER ALLEGATIONS AGAINST MARIA ZALOUMIS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED

UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe says concerns from some stakeholders and social media users that farmer Maria Zaloumis is being shielded by government from possible murder charges are politically motivated.

Maria Zaloumis, popularly known as “Zedfarmer” and daughter of Electoral Commission of Zamba-ECZ- Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis is accused together with her partner Nathaniel Chinyeremi Barthram, of brutally torturing and beating 20-year-old Enock Simfukwe on their farm, leading to his death.

Speaking when he featured on the Friday edition of Let the People Talk program on Phoenix FM, Mr. Simuuwe says people should not expect the police to act at the speed of social media, emphasizing the necessity of conducting thorough investigations before drawing conclusions.

He has also questioned why some social media users have already assumed Ms. Zaloumis’s active involvement in the alleged murder, despite the lack of conclusive evidence.

Mr. Simuuwe has further stated that just because Ms. Zaloumis’s mother holds a significant position does not mean she should be subject to judgment based on social media speculation.

UPND HIGHLIGHTS KEY ACHIEVEMENTS SINCE ASSUMING OFFICE

UPND HIGHLIGHTS KEY ACHIEVEMENTS SINCE ASSUMING OFFICE

August 22, 2025

Lusaka- UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe has outlined several milestones the ruling party has achieved since taking office, citing reforms in education, agriculture, debt repayment, and energy diversification.

Speaking on Radio Phoenix’s Let the People Talk programme, Mr. Simuuwe said government policies such as free education, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation, and the recruitment of teachers have improved access to quality education.

He added that new classroom blocks and desks supplied through CDF carpentry projects have helped balance the teacher-pupil ratio. He also welcomed the reintroduction of meal allowances for university students.

On agriculture, Mr. Simuuwe noted that farmers who were owed by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) for two years had been paid, while many suppliers, including mine contractors, have benefited from the government’s domestic debt clearance strategy.

He also praised the decision to allow maize exports, saying the move would boost liquidity among farmers and support FRA payments.

Mr. Simuuwe stressed the UPND government’s commitment to fighting corruption, emphasizing that no individual, whether in government or not, was above the law.

He urged investigative agencies to follow up on suspicious transactions flagged in audit reports, without interference from political or public pressure.

Commenting on the recent death of a youth in Kabwe, Enock Simfukwe, Mr. Simuuwe dismissed claims of political manipulation and cautioned against turning the matter into a “court of social media.”

He said arrests being made are based on police investigations, not online pressure. He further pointed to other unresolved ritual-related killings involving politicians, reiterating that all crimes would eventually be investigated, regardless of how much time had passed.

On governance, Mr. Simuuwe defended the enactment of cyber laws, saying they were designed to safeguard data and protect citizens online.

He also highlighted progress in the energy sector, noting that ZESCO had signed several agreements to develop solar power plants as part of efforts to reduce the national energy deficit.

Additionally, he cited infrastructure projects across the country, the ongoing revival of the mining sector on the Copperbelt, and mass recruitment in health, education, defense, and security wings as part of the government’s development agenda.

Reflecting on the political landscape, Mr. Simuuwe contrasted the current environment with what he described as the “dictatorial tendencies” of the previous Patriotic Front (PF) government, under which UPND leaders faced restrictions on movement and relied heavily on social media to campaign.

ZAMBIA REAFFIRMS CALL FOR PEACE IN MIDDLE EAST AS ISRAEL OPENS EMBASSY IN LUSAKA

ZAMBIA REAFFIRMS CALL FOR PEACE IN MIDDLE EAST AS ISRAEL OPENS EMBASSY IN LUSAKA

President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated Zambia’s call for peace and stability in the Middle East, stressing that lasting solutions can only come through dialogue and diplomacy.

President Hichilema has also thanked Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for their commitment to strengthening relations with Zambia and welcomed Israel’s decision to establish a resident embassy in Lusaka, describing it as a historic milestone in the more than 60 years of bilateral ties.

Speaking during talks with Israel’s Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa’ar at State House, President Hichilema thanked Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for their commitment to strengthening relations with Zambia.

He urged all parties in the Middle East to remain steadfast in seeking peaceful outcomes that guarantee security and prosperity.

President Hichilema commended Zambia’s long-standing partnership with Israel’s support in health, education, and agriculture.

He recalled that Israel helped establish the University of Zambia just three years after independence, making it a hub for Southern Africa. He noted that Israeli expertise in irrigation technology would be crucial in combating the effects of recurring droughts, while also pointing to opportunities for collaboration in mining and trade.

“Israel made the University of Zambia a regional institution because of our liberation credentials and our commitment to peace and security. Today, we continue to build on this strong foundation through cooperation in agriculture, education, and health, including advanced medical services such as heart surgery in Israel,” President Hichilema said.

The President emphasized that economic diplomacy remains central to Zambia’s foreign policy, identifying agriculture, mining, climate change, and trade as key sectors where Israeli investment and knowledge could drive sustainable growth.

Minister Sa’ar praised President Hichilema’s leadership, calling him “one of the most esteemed and respected African and world leaders.”

Mr. Sa’ar announced that Israel would establish a trauma and emergency hospital in Livingstone while continuing to support Zambia with training in agriculture, water management, and food security.

“Opening the Israeli Embassy in Lusaka marks the beginning of a new chapter, Zambia has always held a special place in Israel’s heart since independence, and this embassy will serve as a cornerstone of our renewed engagement with Africa,” Mr. Sa’ar said.

Zambia’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe welcomed the move, saying Israel’s diplomatic presence would boost cooperation in trade, health, and education.

Prosecutors Demand Diddy’s Acquittal Request Be Thrown Out

Diddy is still residing behind bars in New York City as his awaits his upcoming sentencing hearing on October 3.
Federal prosecutors in Diddy’s high-profile criminal case have asked that a judge rejects the Bad Boy mogul’s request for an acquittal or retrial. Diddy filed his request, last month, arguing that his conviction was highly-unusual are far as the Mann Act goes.

In a new filing caught by The Associated Press, prosecutors wrote: “Evidence of the defendant’s guilt on the Mann Act counts was overwhelming.” They cited the sexual escapades that referred to throughout the trial as “freak-offs” or “hotel nights.” Specially, they alleged that Diddy used video recordings of the encounters to threaten his girlfriends to continue participating in them. “At trial, there was ample evidence to support the jury’s convictions,” prosecutors said.

“During these relationships, he asserted substantial control over Ventura and Jane’s lives. Specifically, he controlled and threatened Ventura’s career, controlled her appearance, and paid for most of her living expenses, taking away physical items when she did not do what he wanted,” prosecutors continued. “The defendant similarly paid Jane’s US$10,000 rent and threatened her that he would stop paying her rent if she did not comply with his demands.”

As for Diddy’s filing, his lawyers wrote: “It is undisputed that he had no commercial motive and that all involved were adults. The men chose to travel and engage in the activity voluntarily. The verdict confirms the women were not vulnerable or exploited or trafficked or sexually assaulted.”

They added: “Mr. Combs, at most, paid to engage in voyeurism as part of a ‘swingers’ lifestyle. That does not constitute ‘prostitution’ under a properly limited definition of the statutory term.”

While the jury found Diddy not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering, they still convicted him on lesser crimes. These included two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 3.
